Starting point is 00:00:00 before we get started can i ask you guys a life question oh oh boy okay we had a we had a debate in in studio at virgin this morning and i want to i want to know if you guys think this is weird okay there was like a stat about people bathing with their animals do you guys bathe with your dogs what no do you get a jesse ever bathed with i've never done that no okay so i didn't think this qualified as bathing with my dogs but jackson tj did so i when i bring them down uh to wash them and there's full disclosure behind the cameras here if you're watching the there's a there's a bathroom and that's where i wash my dogs because it's an old bathroom and there's a glassed-in shower and it's an easy place to do it right it's a perfect place to wash your dog it's great they
Starting point is 00:00:53 can't escape because they always try to escape yeah so i'm washing the dogs but what i often do because my dogs hate the water they're like uh when you put a lobster in a boiling pot of water they're just like oh you know they die well they don't die they don't die no but they uh they like you know spread out to try to not go in the shower right yeah a lot of times what happens is i end up getting soaking wet because i have to push them back in or i have to hold them or whatever yeah a slippery floor or whatever so it's easier for me to close the glass door and get inside with them but what that means is my clothes are soaking wet so i just strip down naked and then wash my dogs now i'm not washing myself i just wash my dog but what they're saying is you bathe with your
Starting point is 00:01:33 dogs and i just wanted to know if that was bathing with my dogs number one and number two is that weird or extremely intelligent i think butt ass naked's a bit strange i suppose it is i go to my underwear though i mean yeah but why are you going in in a bathing suit you don't want your dog licking your bits and pieces they're not doing that well i would hope not um i would call that a task that resembles bathing it's bathing if it's the only time you got in a shower that day oh i get in the shower every every day in the morning well there you go you've smelled it before you know no i've never complained about his smell sweaty boy jesse thoughts yeah if you're not doing any bathing in the bath with your dogs then you're fine then yeah you're just trying to
Starting point is 00:02:21 not get your clothes wet yes that's exactly what my thought if you bust out the soap with the dogs in there and you're like oh great and now i don't have to bathe yeah then you're taking a shower with your dog see i miss you in studio jesse for that because jesse doesn't do mornings with us anymore because he's mr stpn full-time now and i uh miss you in there because it was three against one okay and it would have been nice to have some sanity in the studio everybody thought oh no that's bathing with your dog and i was like i'm not bathing with i'm not taking a bath with my dog no yeah because you're not doing any bathing yourself exactly i don't understand why would they well they're like it's soap involved and your hands are still getting it clean whatever so
Starting point is 00:02:58 it's still bathing that's what the technicality okay they haven't washed a dog then that's what i thought i've never washed iggy and been like all clean you know what i mean you get dirtier right it's also different soap like i've dog soap that's important to dog shampoo and it all smells like oatmeal for some reason i don't know why they always make it smell like oatmeal it's good for the skin is that what it is the oatmeal yeah charlie charlie used to be big on the oatmeal it's just been eating at me all day and then a whole bunch of listers piled on too no like that's for sure bathing with your dog adam you're you're weird you're creepy whatever now is it weird to get in the shower naked with your animal it okay yeah kind of it feels unnecessary you know what
Starting point is 00:03:40 i mean but okay so the the options are especially with bindi and you know how bindi can be a little bit you know anxious the options are soaking wet clothes or not soaking wet clothes towel myself off put my clothes back on less laundry here's why i would do a bathing suit okay bindi is a lovely dog and very happy all the time but even when she's very happy all the time she scratches me i would not want to be butt naked with that dog because god forbid dude god forbid and like she could be like oh i've decided i like the shower swipe and you're never the same again you already got a vasectomy adam you don't need another one jesse yeah i would do swimming trunks you would i think i think it's awkward being in front of your dog and just be like hey i'm naked
Starting point is 00:04:28 here are you not naked in front of your dogs yeah but like doing a whole shower with them i think i throw on swimming trunks every now and then iggy you'll see me and i'll be like this that's enough yeah stop staring listen i i give you everything you want give me a moment give me a moment it's like when dogs stare at you when they're going to the bathroom they're going number two and they're just looking in the eye like what the hell are you looking at that's a protection thing is it is yeah it's uh they're looking at you to make sure that you're protecting them because they feel vulnerable yeah it's not it's it's uh you make me feel safe rather than um vindictiveness which is what it looks like it looks like vindictiveness so wait are we supposed to be the one that's
Starting point is 00:05:05 guarding them while they're going yeah yes okay so here's what i've learned since moving in with a cat cat go to the bathroom and they go at night uh because they're nocturnal because humans are idiots why would we why would we bring an animal into our house that likes to be up that late um and then they meow as loud as humanly possible when they when they go because they feel so vulnerable that they want you to protect them so they meow extraordinarily loud and they walk around the house and it's not like it's not like the little meow that you see like cute now it's it's a it's a terror scream halloween yes 100 yes terrible don't understand it how do we do this i don't know oh because you get them you give them pets and oh you do scritchies
Starting point is 00:05:50 it's upsetting it's upsetting anyway i just wanted to hit that off the top it was really eating at me thank you for at least going halfway with it you still think I'm weird though for showering with my dog well just trunks for look at it like safety goggles right it's protective equipment safety goggles for your bathing suit
Starting point is 00:06:08 it's true okay I've painted it you're doing a task and there are tasks that you have to do that require certain safety measures and I think you should take that one otherwise you know i would hate to have to postpone a podcast because you have an injury right did we have to postpone when i got my vasectomy i don't think so i don't think so either i mean i had to postpone what i
Starting point is 00:06:33 was doing to look at your hilarious instagram post oh with a bag of ice on your downstairs my mom was so upset really she she texted me and it was like a long text she's like i think and and then her husband texted me too they always look out for us like it may it came from a sweet place but like I think that you need to take this down like they were very concerned about my vasectomy message and there's you
Starting point is 00:06:58 they've never said anything and I'm like and they're like you don't understand the fact that that could be bad for people that could be bad for your brand and I'm like I don't think people care yeah I don't think anybody's thinking that hard about the picture no no or should be
Starting point is 00:07:13 I don't think so either who cares exactly my body my choice absolutely like aaron rogers right well did you see the uh did you see the follow-up interview on the pat mcafee show with that no i just saw that he's upset that people are upset well people reacted the way he expected them to react based on the interview because he's like oh man the people come at me because of this and that and then they came at him and he was like what that's ridiculous why would they do that i'm an athlete not an activist that's the big quote okay i don't think getting a vaccine makes you an activist but uh but what i'm i what i was
Starting point is 00:07:51 interested in and this is what i want you guys your opinion on so we always talk about in the nhl we talk about fines right maximum allowable fines 5 000 yes aaron rogers was fined yeah because he lied 14 500 bucks and he makes 29 million a year something like that and the packers were fined three hundred thousand dollars because they're richer than aaron rogers i guess i think because the covid protocols fall on the team not the player it's up to like the management to make sure that everybody's up yeah by the way ontario is up at over 80 percent activists which i think is great almost 85 percent activists almost 85 percent yeah it's crazy that's a lot of i just it's it's uh i just thought that was funny because i'm like you know 15 grand i get that must
Starting point is 00:08:43 be a player's thing but they don't even have a really good players union in the nfl like that it was broken in the 80s and it's never been great they don't even have guaranteed contracts but i thought 15 000 bucks like who are you fooling guys i would love to know how many dinners he has had that that have been more than oh what percentage of dinners over the last five years have been more than that i wonder that too that's actually a really good question if you why not just tip 10 grand every time i liked shaq's thing i saw a clip recently where shaq asked the wait staff he's like what do you think your tip should be and one time a guy just decided to be brave and he's like four thousand dollars and shaq was like here's four grand really yeah because
Starting point is 00:09:28 he's shaq and it doesn't matter yeah four grand he'll never miss it it's worth more to him to have the story that he gave a waiter four grand then yeah it is to keep it i uh i saw a clip with shack last week it was awesome um he's got kids right and they're all adult adults now they're coming out of school and you know they got entrepreneurial ideas so he's talking at this conference and i guess one of his kids came to us and said dad can you help me fund this idea that i have and he's like no no he said no and his and this kid was like was upset about this and he said like like what's the problem like we're rich and he's like no no you're not rich i'm rich and and he said you want to you want to come to me with an idea first you're going to go to school
Starting point is 00:10:17 and you're going to finish your master's and then you're going to present to me the idea that you have and then i'll see if that passes he's like i'm not investing in anything that's bad why would i invest in your company i don't care who you are that's business i'm not investing in your company just because you're my kid and by the way you haven't earned anything and i was like what a great philosophy brilliant he's no he's a pretty smart guy he um i saw another one where he wanted to get like a home security system or something and they quoted him like 80 000 or something he's like i'm not spending 80 grand so he goes to best buy and like buys a ring like one of the you know the ring the ring doorbells yeah when they were like new and he said he was in china and someone
Starting point is 00:10:57 rang his doorbell and he's talking to them on the phone and like can see them and he's like this is greatest invention ever and he literally calls him up he's like hi i'm shaquille o'neal uh you're gonna pay me x amount of dollars to endorse you and also i want to like buy x percent of your company or whatever or did that happen he invested in them yeah and now they're worth like a bajillion trillion dollars that's crazy sold to amazon yeah oh yeah because he's shack and he can just do that i love shack for some reason my my youtube algorithm is like give him that shack i love that shack algorithm i have that too yeah shack algorithm because he has another one where he supposedly is the biggest walmart purchase seventy thousand dollars where he just went there
Starting point is 00:11:40 he got traded to the phoenix suns yeah and just bought everything and the way he tells the story his card gets declined and so he goes and like rubs it against his shirt gets declined again and calls them up he's like hey something's uh or he calls them up and they're like shack someone stole your credit card and they're trying to buy 70 grand worth of stuff he's like that's me and they're like what the why are you doing that that's a challenge how many trucks do you need to back up to buy 70 000 worth of stuff at walmart he i'm gonna i'm gonna say uh that's too much stuff at walmart it's probably probably you gotta have a big house to fit yeah twenty thousand dollars worth of stuff at walmart and that's why you should tip
Starting point is 00:12:21 10 grand every time you go out to dinner because you can just flippantly spend 70 grand at walmart at like three in the morning after getting traded in 2016 shaquille o'neal acquired an equity stake in ring and subsequently became a spokesperson in the company's marketing company raised over 200 million dollars in investments From a bunch of different people So yeah 2016 he invested in Ring Before it was the big Ring thing And he just calls them up he's like hi I'm Shaquille O'Neal
Starting point is 00:12:49 I really like your product we're gonna make a lot of money They did That's amazing I love it He seems like he just has a wonderful life Yeah he does And I mean he's also like greatest One of the greatest basketball players of all time
Starting point is 00:13:04 One of the greatest actors of all time i mean we've all seen shazam i have um but but i think more than that like his investment portfolio is unbelievable he's got like a got a mind for business it's amazing you know how many shitty movies i watched as a kid because i saw someone who i liked on the cover and i'm like that movie's gonna be great hulk hogan did that more than more than shack did you know how many shitty hulk hogan movies i watched as a kid there are a lot of hogan there's a movie called santa with muscles and now i'm an adult and i'm like that sounds like a shitty movie don't rent that movie son but i watched santa with muscles and it was garbage so the wwe is really smart for nothing
Starting point is 00:13:44 hulk hogan they do like i don't know if they back then if this is what they did but what they do now is they just put their characters in movies where it's like it would be like a b-rated jason statham movie right it's like they just put him in the jason statham or or the rock role and they build the movie around it's like he's ex-military and they they his wife is this and they kidnapped her and now he's got to go get her back john cena yeah yeah and and it's amazing when we were at was it monday night raw or did we go to smackdown in toronto uh i went to one of each in a short span okay well i went with you and justin and nate and um and all you know in between like with commercial breaks and that sort of thing that's all they did they just ran promos for all the
Starting point is 00:14:27 movies they have coming up and there was like 15 or 16 of them here's the undertaker scooby-doo crossover yeah literally crazy crazy two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research together we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer. So listen, on the show today, I'm not going to lie to you. There is a lot of heavy news out there. And, you know, as things go with the NHL, so goes the show, right? We have to talk about, this is what this show does.
Starting point is 00:15:50 We talk about the big news. and the Leafs also didn't help us out with a super slow start against LA on Monday night so we can talk about that too I was telling Jesse like I watched the Leafs lose 5-1 I played the Rick Westhead interview and cried on the way home
Starting point is 00:16:06 like so that was my night yeah it's like hockey's just sad right now well and what's surprising to me and we'll talk about some of the stuff the John Doe 2 interview is just gutting But what's amazing is the lack of concern that the NHL seems to have about any of it.
Starting point is 00:16:26 And it seems like the one good thing that they did, and this is according to Emily Kaplan, and we're going to get to the Anaheim Ducks situation to kick this off because I think this is not where we are, but where we are hopefully going. Bob Murray, by the way, was suspended by the Anaheim Ducks after an investigation so they could do a further investigation into claims uh of impropriety now at the time we didn't know what that meant but what we have found out since is there seems to have been um he's a hothead and a hothead in the worst way we're talking emotional abuse here so according to emily caplan she said re bob murray doesn't sound like one singular incident led the ducks to put their
Starting point is 00:17:09 gm on administrative leave but rather his behavior towards staffers and what one source called quote abusive culture. A source says that all the initial complaints involve verbal abuse. There is no time frame for his investigation. The team intends to see it through, but there was enough evidence in the early interviews to suggest that Murray was not fit to continue in his current
Starting point is 00:17:28 role. So they kicked off the investigation, they did the interviews, and enough people said, this guy cannot work for this person. The ducks are on the road right now, and the plan is for Murray to return to Anaheim. And this is the most important tweet of this thread. Emily has been absolutely on fire, by the way.
Starting point is 00:17:44 she's the best like yeah i i i'm so sad that espn didn't have rights to this before because emily is a treasure listen to this the nhl sent a memo after the blackhawks case and basically told teams if you know of any abuse you must report it sounds like that led some in the ducks organization to question bob murray's behavior some allegations may be years old but people feel more empowered to speak up now and this is the one good thing that i'll give you have to give credit where it's due the one good thing that the nhl has done here is they sent out that memo and they said if you see abuse you must report it and for the first time i think that people believe them and you know when the ducks put bob murray on administrative leave they
Starting point is 00:18:27 did the right thing the right thing to do which we all saw with quinville and bowman and everybody else the right thing to do is put them on administrative leave let the investigation happen and then decide whether or not they can come back to work that's not what the hawks did that's not what the jets did that's not what the the panthers did that's not what montreal did i mean you know all of those people rightfully so i think we all have the right to say hey all of these people should have been on administrative leave until until this happened what the ducks did is the right thing you take them out of the situation you figure out what happened and then you look at and you know by the by the end of it we may not think they did the right thing like
Starting point is 00:19:06 but at least initially this move right here to pull them out until the investigation is complete is the right move i totally agree so the best thing is for it not to happen at all okay well we're well past that the second best thing is to catch it right away which often doesn't happen the third best thing is to catch it as soon as possible which it sounds like they did the so i was on my phone sorry trying to check for something else it's all good uh greg washinsky said the lack of surprise from sources about bob murray being placed on leave and being investigated is jarring not in the sense that they knew this was coming but more about the individual at the center of it and another tweet text from longtime nhl team exec about ducks gm bob murray his managerial style
Starting point is 00:19:51 has always been negativity and adds colorfully he's an asshole and got caught um i've heard that about bob murray heard that and and and you know but you always have to be careful because when you call someone an asshole it's a lot of times there's perspective what's the context right and in this particular like like people have called me an asshole i'm not an asshole like bob murray's an asshole are you an asshole because people disagree with you are you an asshole because you were prickly once are you an asshole because you don't want people to talk to you before your coffee or are you an asshole because you're an asshole and you go around and just be an asshole to everybody yeah yeah um i also yeah i got a message from someone else who
Starting point is 00:20:38 was like oh yeah totally not shocked it was funny it was in some of the na like the people connected with the game that i talked to they they right away said um they right away said oh i bet it's this really interesting and it comes out that it seems like it is i don't although the docs in the nhl have not spoken on this obviously it's being reported i don't i don't want to just start chucking names out there change the subject but the first thing i thought of was the katie strang article about the arizona coyotes why is that well because where's that investigation like based on was there was there an investigation done or was it just katie doing the investigation i don't know that there was was there supposed to be some sort of follow-up i don't know if there
Starting point is 00:21:22 was something formally released and i'm not trying to get everybody in trouble and yeah you know i'm just i'm i'm not trying to create more work for people here but um there's there's a reckoning happening here and it's not good that we're like oh yeah not surprised but it's good that we're taking a look at the lack of surprise and trying to weed out the right thing by the sounds does that make sense sure you know what i mean it's i don't know better now than later better now than later you know tackling these subjects but uh i didn't expect the ducks to be first but it looks like uh we're on pace to go in alphabetical order because if i mean if it's if it's him then i would assume arizona's next you think so i mean there's already there's a
Starting point is 00:22:18 pre-existing article out there that we all just sort of forgot about because it wasn't that a great it was at the darkest period of the second wave i think right it was it was it not january last year or this year that it came out i don't remember i thought it was during the off season time doesn't make any sense yeah i think it wasn't it like august or something like that last year oh wait the winter would have been the off season yeah yeah it would have been like fall of last year not would it not right so maybe it was the 2020 off season yeah it was the 2020 off season for sure so like around this time last year so it was okay okay can you imagine we were in off season last time i know oh i know oh boy i know sorry to interrupt but no wow yeah um uh oh my
Starting point is 00:23:01 god sorry you're just making me process my life from the past year but but it was it was i guess it didn't get the full attention it deserved because it was an off-season news item which are kind of hit and miss but it was it was one of the first things i thought of because if you're not surprised by that i mean i would see an investigation into arizona like it's it's at least i'm not calling for people's jobs here but it is at very least based on that article worth looking into hey are we doing things the right way if they've already done the investigation great if they've improved their ways great but we have a reckoning here my sorry go ahead jess um i wonder about the people above bob murray who would be giving him the platform to be this disruptive
Starting point is 00:23:49 in the front office because he's been around there since i think it's 2008 and 2005 is when they originally brought him on as vp of hockey operations it seems like during this time everybody kind of knows that bob murray is this hothead as people have been quoted saying calling him that over the last like 24 hours and that his management style is yelling at people and he clearly doesn't know how to respect people in the workplace and treat people with respect and it's troubling that he's been allowed to do this for nearly 20 years in the ducks organization and i wonder if you look at that and you say okay so what needs to be done about people controlling the people who have all the power it's a great point that's a it's a great point you can always
Starting point is 00:24:35 go higher yeah it seems because he he's he's been given the position of vp of hockey operations and then like when burke's fired he steps in as gm when carlisle leaves he steps in as head coach and then they put him back as vp and he's just been in and around the organization yelling at people for 20 years why has no one stepped in and said hey let's just let him go i wonder about that too i i had a if i might uh just from personal experience i i remember having a conversation with a high ranking person in the media business and this person said to me when i complained about an issue i was having this is years ago and i said you know are you aware of what's going on and they said no one tells me anything and and so and i and i i found that plausible
Starting point is 00:25:26 because oftentimes what ownership are presented with versus what people underneath a person in power who's abusing power would be presented with would be completely different things. I could see how it's the Samueli family, right? That's who owns the ducks. I can see how, I could plausibly see, and we can talk about that, right?
Starting point is 00:25:47 What's the plausible angle here? I could plausibly see how maybe they were not aware. The Samuelis might not know about Bob Murray if bob murray is the one relaying the stories about bob murray right but is has throughout the entire 15 years that he's been in the organization is he always the one directly reporting to uh the samueli family do they not know his personality over nearly two decades if if he well burke says in his book that they they take they step back and he said i'm not taking this job i'm just going off of what brian burke said but he said i'm not taking this job
Starting point is 00:26:26 unless you guys step back and you gotta let me be a gm here and he said they were always really good about that so i wonder if they continued that after burke left for toronto and um and maybe like because who's bob bob murray's not gonna yell up at brian burke if brian's his boss right that's the thing like once you get into that if you're if you're a superiors love you it really doesn't matter what the the people who are underneath you think do you know what i'm saying yeah it's but it sounds like there's there's a whole bunch of excuses for a culture that allows these people to be terrible within hockey yeah that's all it's hard to hard to disagree with that and that's because a lot of the time they haven't been allowed to say anything or
Starting point is 00:27:08 it hasn't gone anywhere right there's there's gonna be i'm i'm pre-arguing here but i think it's an important pre-argument i i think there's a lot of people who go well geez like now you just you just can't say anything or you can't have that's bullshit well or you can't have ugly moments or you can't be mean and regret it and take it back or something like that but i i think i don't think that's what he's being accused of here like i've had bosses in the past who have been notoriously hard and then and i hear that reputation and then i get to experience that reputation and their heart but overall one or two moments in there where i was like that hurt my feelings that was ugly that that happened i wish that hadn't happened but were they would i consider
Starting point is 00:27:58 it abusive you know what i mean would i consider it a like an every day you're getting hammered thing no it was a couple it was a couple moments that maybe you talk to them about a few years later and they go yeah you know what i'm sorry something like that i hope everybody coming up as a manager these days realizes that there's so much research out there that uh treating people with kindness in the workplace as a boss makes them work harder as opposed to the hard-ass style it's never worked in the hundred years that this industrial has been studied has been in place it's never worked as a management style as opposed to the other side where you're just kind and you get people motivated by treating them the right way and not being rude and we glorify though the yeah
Starting point is 00:28:43 but look how they turned out look at look at those stories yeah yeah but that's not that's not due to a shitty boss that's due to a good employee right and and and that's the the thing and you should always take this through you through your entire working life um what i researched when i had a boss and i had real issues with this particular boss was that um they they graded it on a percentage of like a hundred percent would be a very good employee right your your work effort effort and they said if you're inspired by your boss to jesse's point you're you're like the the scores are 105 to 120 your effort as in you're going above and beyond if you are terrified by your boss or scared by your boss or browbeaten by your boss you'll you'll get 100 out of the
Starting point is 00:29:29 employee for a bit. And they say a year or two. And then after that, it falls to somewhere in the neighborhood of 70% and 60%. And then they'll subvert you, as in they will actively work against your success. And so that... And I saw it all the time happen. There was a culture of a company I worked for, where quite literally, the objectives would come on from down, on high, and they wouldn't make any sense on the actual floor. But none of the managers along the way wanted to say anything to say hey this plan objectively doesn't make sense and is going to fail what they would do instead is go in the boardroom and go yeah yeah this is great all right all right and then they'd bring it to the floor where they would then objectively then they would subvert the plan
Starting point is 00:30:15 that they supposedly had bought into and then the plans would never work and everybody would wonder why and it's it's it's the craziest thing but that's what happens it's like a spider web made of shit jesus christ it's crazy it's great you believe how much that happens and and so bringing it back to this situation we don't know specifics about the bob murray situation as of this recording but like i can't go at the guy because i we literally don't know anything but the nhl by doing the bare minimum and sending out that memo already something good has happened from this yeah already something good has happened from from you know the tragic situation with pal beach john doe to rick west and katie strength reporting it's the culture is changing
Starting point is 00:30:58 this is what we've been calling for but my my question to you and this is where i kicked it off was the nhl doesn't seem that concerned do they at least publicly am i crazy i've i've been wondering i've been wondering like what gary betman is thinking recently got like i don't think we're going to see him for a burial gary we're going to get statements released and they're going to be real short and real curt and real lawyerly and we're just not going to see him because you i think what you're looking for is like some sort of emotional appeal right which was wrong we talked about that and they but they just don't do that also and they're not good at it and they don't even have what we what we saw last week or two weeks ago is they don't even have
Starting point is 00:31:53 the ability to fake it so what they don't and so what we're going to see is stuff like this we told the ducks not to be naughty and uh they're investigating this bye and that's all you're going to see from now that brings us to a situation a lot of people were pretty upset with the nhl has said that they will not pay the expenses of John Doe 2. Now, I want you... This is all hard, right? This is not easy.
Starting point is 00:32:24 This is not supposed to be an easy exorcism. But that's what it is. It's an exorcism. Serious demons here. The John Doe 2 interview with Rick Westhead is one of the most gutting things we've ever heard. Now, it wasn't with John Doe 2.
Starting point is 00:32:39 It was with his mother. And Rick said on this show, I believe it was in August, that this family's been destroyed by this and he said it i think last time he came out i i don't want to i don't want to do her a disservice by paraphrasing her so what i need you to know from this is that you need to listen to it you need to absorb it and the reason for that is because if you don't absorb that when she talks about what it was like for her son to finally come out and say that he'd been raped yeah i think about that think about what that's like
Starting point is 00:33:15 if you don't if you don't hear that what i'm about to tell you won't hold as much water it's 10 minutes and i think if you've been following the story and want to fully understand it the scope of the events you owe it to yourself uh to listen because i don't think you can fully understand the story if you don't hear her pain we will link to it by the way in our description um this won't matter as much unless you hear that interview but even after hearing that interview the nhl came out and said we are not going to pay his expenses now this is a person without health care and no health insurance no health insurance canada canada even even in canada where health care is free you probably wouldn't have the access that
Starting point is 00:34:02 you need because mental health is not really covered the same way as physical health we still haven't got there as a country when i see it there i'll just be open when i see a therapist it's over 200 bucks a session yep yep it's a lot and you know i think i'm i'm glad actually bell's bell's policy on that is they have a pretty sizable chunk that goes to mental health which i really appreciate about about that you're an employee though right i'm an employee you're not contract your contract so um married a teacher though get them teach benefits bennies um i i uh if you can hear that and you can still not offer benefits to this person,
Starting point is 00:34:50 then the disconnection is complete. Everything that we said last week about the Gary Bettman Bill Daley press conference is true times 100. And it's not, they're worried about precedence, right? They're lawyers. They're worried about wealth.
Starting point is 00:35:06 we do this for this person what are we going to have to do for all these people this is they're just going to become more of what they are but you know that daily you know that that's a philosophically that is a that's quote is called a slippery slope argument and that is a a fallacy argument the idea that one event would necessitate a bunch of other events afterwards and they might not see it that way but it's they should know that they're lawyers yeah um i mean what's it cost to get this kid some therapy 100 000 bucks i was thinking that like i was you make that they like they made that in the last minute they made that in their sleep yeah 100 000 a million a million oh every minute
Starting point is 00:35:54 this is a company this corporation group of companies that revenues in excess of six or billion dollars a year are you kidding me the good the goodwill of doing the right thing alone right now the thought was and we should be hopefully open to this i tweeted this the thought was maybe they're leaving it to the blackhawks to go you guys do this this is your fucking mess that's what i hope now we know that the blackhawks have had they've tried to throw kyle beach's case they're still trying to fight him in court we know that john doe too they've tried to throw that out saying it's not applicable to us we didn't employ this person we don't we're not responsible for him three years later what wherever that goes in the courts the pr battle
Starting point is 00:36:44 on this is is what they need to win or what they need to come back to zero on right because they're in the minuses all they have to do is say of course we would do that and here's the money and then people go see good okay the nhl's finally learned but they're not going to do it and i don't know chicago i don't know if they haven't said no to it yet outright i don't think but it's unbelievable it's even a process i think here like here you go how much money did they hand out this past summer why what do you mean like two million bucks or you mean to seth jones's contract yeah like i'm i'm talking about players they acquire that's a different that comes from a different pocket
Starting point is 00:37:26 steve these companies will tell you yeah it's a different budget steve it's a different budget fuck you it's it's okay budgets thrown out the window we've heard directly from the wurtz family it's all the same money i don't want to hear the shit about budgets it's we you talk to us face to face rocky and danny face to face don't give me shit about budgets it's all the same money pay him pay him and I said something before the show began and I was wondering
Starting point is 00:37:58 how to go about it um I want to support this guy I want to support John Doe 2 the second I heard that I was literally like I was reaching into my pockets I just wanted to turn them inside out
Starting point is 00:38:14 can we read the two tweets from Rick Westa because we haven't done that yet let's do that first let's do that first now is this um do you have them jesse yeah i have them up here can you go ahead sorry all right so uh this is from rick westhead november 9th which is yesterday update the nhl has informed a lawyer for john doe 2 that the league will not cover costs of counseling slash therapy for him and his family an nhl employee wrote in an email the league will leave that matter for the blackhawks to manage uh john doe 2's lawyer said important perspective
Starting point is 00:38:47 Rick Westhead continues an NHL exec reminded me over the weekend that while Gary Bettman is the face of the NHL he works for the league's 32 owners they share joint accountability in how the NHL responds to scandals including sexual abuse
Starting point is 00:39:03 so okay let me back up then our show has the biggest poll with the Toronto Maple Leafs fan base And I know they occasionally listen to the show I'm challenging the Toronto Maple Leafs
Starting point is 00:39:20 To push the league to do the right thing I'm also pushing the Montreal Canadiens I'm pushing the Calgary Flames, the Edmonton Oilers The Vancouver Canucks, the Ottawa Senators The Winnipeg Jets I'm pushing every Canadian team I'm pushing all 32 teams Push the sponsors
Starting point is 00:39:33 Because the sponsors are what get people to move here According to Rick I think One of his tweets The sponsors are extremely upset with the NHL All sponsors That was after their press conference that's the correct response by the way so good good
Starting point is 00:39:48 to me that's something moving in the right direction that's great so I'm challenging the Toronto Maple Leafs and everyone else to move this forward to do the right thing here now when I heard the interview
Starting point is 00:40:05 and the lack of health insurance that John Doe 2 has I literally wanted to reach in my pants turn out the pockets and just give them every dollar I have and i immediately like you asked me you're like you want to start a gofundme or something along those lines and i know that the people who listen to the show and the people who follow us on social media would support him with the with the flames of a thousand suns
Starting point is 00:40:35 he would not want and while i'm still happy to do that where the mother fuck is the NHL on this where the fuck are the Blackhawks on this it's their
Starting point is 00:40:55 god damn responsibility to come up with the money I'm sorry if this is a fucked up energy for the show this is genuine anger right like this isn't my team lost anger this is anger at injustice
Starting point is 00:41:12 I'm happy to come up with the money I'm happy to raise as much as we possibly can But it's the Blackhawks God damn responsibility To this person To find it in their hearts And fuck your heart I don't care about your heart
Starting point is 00:41:38 I don't care about your feelings Find it in your god damn wallet to pay this person what he is owed. What he's owed. It's already his money. He deserves it. Give him the money he's owed. I want to do the right thing here.
Starting point is 00:42:02 I want to do the right thing here, but I would hate... Here's my fear. My fear is fans would do the right thing. and they would see it as, well, now we don't have to. That's my fear. If we were to do something like that. Is that, do you think, is that?
Starting point is 00:42:21 I think it's a reasonable fear. Yeah? I mean, I still think anybody that donates to that now is going to have, like, even if you put five bucks towards it, you would, I would be watching the NHL to go, hey, I've done this. Are you going to fucking do this?
Starting point is 00:42:38 I can do it. How come you can't? Don't make us clown you. Don't make us make you look like absolute pieces of shit. What have we raised more than the National Hockey League? More than the Chicago Blackhawks? Give this person. Which I don't think is out of the question.
Starting point is 00:42:53 I'm serious. Well, it's not just us, right? We could call our friends. Yes. Yes. A hundred percent. I don't know where to play. I don't know where to direct my anger.
Starting point is 00:43:06 and i don't know how to properly funnel it out of my head into words that make sense right now but listening to that made me so fucking angry that this person is like he's work he's working he can't afford health insurance and the blackhawks are are still doing what they're doing in court give him his goddamn money you cowards i can i can almost guarantee that bill and danny words drive cars that are more expensive than it would cost for this guy's therapy for the rest of his life and in fact i can guarantee a gary betman probably drives a car that's a lot nicer or gary betman gets driven around in a car that's a lot nicer than what it would cost for this yeah you think about it like we talk about a hundred thousand bucks right
Starting point is 00:44:00 a hundred thousand bucks um and i mean that's these days that seems to be like well you know you might get a nice pickup for that you could you could get this guy an amount of money he's never seen before over your morning coffee and they're not doing it you know what i'm talking about i do like i i they i guess they want to go through x y and z of a process this this is a morning coffee phone call and it's still not done why we should be asking every goddamn day why i i think the haze hanging over the sport right now the haze hanging over me like every time i make a video is like part of me a little part of me is every time i go to talk about something else with regards to hockey i'm like this is kind
Starting point is 00:44:56 of goddamn stupid yeah how do you talk about the least losing 5-1 to la this is kind of stupid yeah well hey do you think justin hall's getting traded uh i don't fucking know who cares like i don't know i don't fucking know who cares um the blackhawks didn't adequately investigate a sexual assault allegation in 2010 and it led to a high school student getting raped and we're all just supposed to continue talking about who's playing left wing
Starting point is 00:45:22 morning coffee phone call make it this is why I apologize for the fucked up energy like where do we go from here well any topic on this show afterward is going to be do we know when the the lawsuits
Starting point is 00:45:45 like the cases are happening the one for Kyle Beach like against the Blackhawks because I assume around then or whenever those are resolved I assume John Doe will be in and around that because I'm just getting like I don't I clearly don't know
Starting point is 00:46:02 I'm asking the question that there's a case with John Doe 2 and the Blackhawks that all end up getting resolved do you want to like splice this and put it somewhere else in the show or no no i don't know like how do we move on well i think we we continue because there's there is more to talk about and i feel like you know um if i'm sending some text messages there to check on some things by the way relative to this so don't think that i'm not paying attention oh no no i would never
Starting point is 00:46:34 think that but i i i think here's sorry when but if you're wondering why i'm so angry and you haven't listened that's why yeah that's what i wanted to say beforehand was like listen to the interview and in fact i think i think we're allowed to run a clip or two do we want to put it in rick messaged me and told me we could but he doesn't know in bell so i don't yeah he doesn't know on youtube i don't know how that works um it is uh it's it's public domain because it's news i don't know it's on the tsn youtube channel and i don't know i don't know if they've protected it so yeah just go to the tsn youtube channel watch the whole thing we don't need to yeah like yeah it's not the clip won't do it justice sit there for the 10 minutes and 36
Starting point is 00:47:20 seconds it is watch it and this is this is it right so then you know um i know sometimes in law and we've seen this for years and years and years that taking doing the right thing takes time but this steve makes a great point in that how's 11 years how's that is that enough or in this case seven or eight 14 it happened um you know i think i think this is where it is an easy call this is easy if you're a blackhawks fan if you're an nhl fan you know this is where emails to um marketing departments help not mean ones just you know like what i would i will always always caution you against abusing social media people please don't do that yes there's no need to clown the fucking blackhawks account um the
Starting point is 00:48:27 wurtzes will never see your tweet yeah they don't care you have to you have to you have to reach deeper than that and i'm sure that the blackhawks have some sort of email filter anyway but like who sponsors them you know it's the united center right might want to start with united and say hey united can you tell the blackhawks this is what happened can you tell the blackhawks what to do here i know united's tough to get a hold of too i was about to say oh fuck i'm sure there's a number of listeners who have been on the phone with them for longer than they'd hoped you know this is where and it's not again your message gets lost if you're swearing or you're cursing or you're abusing so please like it's just pointless don't do that i know we're you know
Starting point is 00:49:06 people are upset and angry i've been a couple times people told me to get off my high horse i'm like i don't know i don't know what you're talking about but i i i would encourage you to send some emails that's the that's the where this can start because we know that the sponsors are are what get people to move you can email the organization and say hey i'm also emailing these sponsors of yours um you know i i don't i don't know what the right thing to do is here but i do think that this is a pretty easy thing to do and it's like what they're probably the the lawyers in this case are probably saying well how much i mean what's the limit how much and it's like you guys know that it's not much no you guys know that this is to get the guy therapy and help
Starting point is 00:49:49 nothing i part of me wondered if the reason that the nhl like we were focused on them saying different what was it different facts different context yeah with regard to the two million dollar fine and they called it a substantial fine they're trying to make two million dollars town like a lot of money the when i thought two million was very interesting you're you're yelling about the league and you're trying to raise the money to embarrass them into doing something and all that stuff and i'm saying email the sponsors and that'll get them going but i look at it i'm like i don't believe that they're gonna do the right thing here that's why i'm like i'm not i'm not angry at the people in charge because i know it's not going to change their mind on this i
Starting point is 00:50:38 don't want to wait for them to do the right thing in order to start this process so like when do we just start because i don't think that's ever coming like i don't i don't have faith in the people i don't we saw during the press conference that they don't have the empathy like it's not there and nothing that they didn't follow up like i know uh people were like they need to come back in like two days and apologize for the press conference they didn't do any of that and their response here is hey John Doe 2's therapy
Starting point is 00:51:07 is not our problem we'll leave it up to the Blackhawks and it's just going to be more of that and I know that none of this stuff is going to change until those people in charge eventually aren't doing the job anymore this should be priority 1, 2, and 3 yeah but it never will be for every member
Starting point is 00:51:22 and I don't have faith that their mentality on this is going to change just because uh sponsors and people get mad and we're supposed to get up every day and talk about this league and cheer for shit to happen and like do you do you see why i cannot give a fuck about anything else it has it has dried up all the fun you know i mean really it's hard it's hard to focus on anything else and and so now we have found out that the penguins have reached a solution is the quote over aaron and jared scaldi and they remember the allegations were that uh the coach in wilkes-barre sexually assaulted aaron scaldi um and part of the problem is that um there weren't
Starting point is 00:52:07 allegations he did oh he did okay sorry sorry he did he did um and that the penguins chose to cover it up and that bill garen specifically who was the agm at the time said don't talk about this publicly and and then they fired uh jared and they claimed it was for pandemic reasons but it was really because he had reported donatelli's uh sexual assault against his wife to management right and and you know there was a second allegation i guess that donatelli they came up a couple days ago yeah oh yeah and so they so this closed quickly now so hard to keep on what's curious about this particular situation is obviously in these situations when you have a closure of this particular
Starting point is 00:52:48 type of thing the Penguins will agree to pay the money because I think they've seen what happened to the Blackhawks and they're like we're not going to fight this which is good but then they put you under non-disclosure NDA this is the thing like once there is a resolution I don't think
Starting point is 00:53:05 we're going to we'll never probably hear what happened again although we know what happened we never know we'll never know the terms of the settlement but here's what my question is because it still matters what happened with Bill Guerin because Bill Guerin is currently
Starting point is 00:53:20 the assistant general manager of USA Hockey. Stan Bowman stepped down. He has not been announced as the general manager yet, but he was under investigation. What I'm curious about is if is it SafeSport that's doing the investigation?
Starting point is 00:53:39 If SafeSport was going to interview Aaron Scully, which they hadn't, can aaron scaldi still talk and i don't know the answer to this about the situation can jared scaldi still talk about the situation now that they've signed the nda if it's a private investigation and they agree to keep that information private like i i don't know so two answers there um one there was supposed to be a press conference held by uh the scaldis leading up to this week just before um this resolute the settlement came down and then they canceled it so that press conference
Starting point is 00:54:16 never happened they were going to talk about all the allegations and everything that happened with the penguins and then the settlement happened and now they're not talking and then two um what people in my dms have told me after i brought up safe sport the last time we talked about this story is that safe sport has been uh generally useless in these types of situations they are understaffed undermanned and they yeah because who would want to fund them right that takes away all the power they don't have funding yeah and their job is to investigate sexual assaults within the uh team usa olympic uh situations and there are too many cases and not enough people and they have done pretty much nothing in terms of like the gymnastics investigations and all that stuff so
Starting point is 00:54:54 the expectation that safe sport would do anything in this case isn't like we shouldn't expect that even though they are the body there that is supposed to protect people in these cases it doesn't seem like they have been doing a great job because of the resources that they lack at their company so well then this is the this is going to be the interesting part because my assumption would be well listen let's just be straight this happened the penguins didn't want it to get any bigger than it was already about to get because once that goes to the court all those if those case files come out we know exactly what happens in terms of the minutia and the detail and
Starting point is 00:55:42 mario and co said shut it down how many times has an nhl executive over the past few months looked at their phone and got fuck it's requested boo and then the second woman who in a completely different incident I think two years or a year after the Donatelli Scaldi
Starting point is 00:56:10 incident happened she came forward and said that she was retaining the same lawyer as the Scaldis to file another lawsuit against the Blackhawks And once that was before this was settled, and then now once Penguins are Blackhawks. Sorry, I said Blackhawks. Yeah, I meant Penguins. Once this was settled, they reached out and asked the lawyers for a comment on the second
Starting point is 00:56:30 woman and what's going to happen with that lawsuit. And they did not return a request for comment. That was to Sportsnet and TSN. So there's been no follow up from the Romanucci and Blandin group, the lawyers who retained the case for the second woman. they haven't publicly announced what's going to happen with that case so it's kind of in limbo here
Starting point is 00:56:52 but it sounds like the penguins wanted this to go away and they reached some sort of settlement that's going to hide all of the details here which is a shame you see why I keep asking where do we go if it brings the Scaldi's peace that is also great I hope it does
Starting point is 00:57:08 I don't know if that's always the case I don't know if it's peace but maybe it's restitution yeah something yeah something something's a good word not as fancy sounding as restitution but that's uh what the layman would call it and i am a layman um i'm i'm sorry folks like i'm sorry to i'm sorry for everyone who comes i don't think people expect a certain show out of us but i think they hope for it and uh i just i don't think we can provide that for you right now and i don't know if anyone should does that make sense i'm miserable with the sport right now because i
Starting point is 00:57:56 think we i think that's the appropriate response yeah and i think you know what i'll say i think we were getting somewhere with what do we do about it what do we do about it since they're not going to do something about it now i have been told to hold off on raising any money yet okay by somebody that i asked okay so they've said please give us a couple days on that's why i was sending text messages so what i'm going to ask our audience to do is is hold off on that we'll follow up on friday oh don't sorry don't start a go fund no please don't do that on your own please don't do that's why that's what i was doing that's why i was texting i was reaching out going would that be a good idea or not and they said the person who i trust immensely with this give
Starting point is 00:58:46 us a give us a bit we'll take the lean on it let us do it properly don't you go also i think go fund me takes a huge chunk and i feel like we can find a different we need to find a different charitable yes anything if we can get the billionaires to pay we'd rather save your money to go to something else as opposed to we send your money here and then the building billionaires don't pay now let them pay i know most people would be like i can't think of a better thing to put money towards honestly than something like this and i get that but you the reality is you worked really hard for it and um let's let's let's wait and see on this one not that i love that position because we're usually people that just go like balls to the wall on this this
Starting point is 00:59:28 one though i think we just we just chill on for a bit until we get a better confirmation of what is going to unfold in the next 48 hours and then we'll come back might as well be careful yeah yeah so many times on this show we've been like let's do it and that's been great this is a little more sensitive subject yeah yeah it not everything has to be uh a life and death wait and see situation but uh this one uh yeah let's maybe do it right so i mean listen where we take the show from here this particular episode is up to you and i'll i I want to ask you guys, because I'd rather just be honest about it. Usually, as our consultants would say in radio, they'd be like, well, this is a plan you should
Starting point is 01:00:15 have had beforehand. You should have had a plan about what you were going to do beforehand. You shouldn't ask people in front of an audience where you want to go. We can talk about the Leafs. We can talk about the Oilers. We can talk about... Let's talk about Carey Price. You want to talk about Carey Price?
Starting point is 01:00:30 Yeah, yeah. Okay. I think that's a good transition. keep it at the same level so carrie price um what's up i was gonna say i'm just proud of the success we've had you know not having a single consultant over eight years a miracle frankly um they're really good you know they rob people of money um over the last few years this is carrie price on instagram on tuesday over the last few years don't get upset i've let myself get to a very dark place, and I didn't have the tools to cope with that struggle. Last month, I made the
Starting point is 01:01:07 decision to enter a residential treatment facility for substance use. Things had reached a point that I realized I needed to prioritize my health for both myself and my family. Asking for help when you need it is what we encourage our kids to do, and it was what I needed to do. I'm working through years of neglecting my own mental health, which will take some time to repair uh all i can do is take it day by day when it comes to when with that comes some uncertainty uh with when i will return to play i appreciate all of the overwhelming support and well wishes i ask that the media and our hockey community continue to respect our privacy at this time your support and respect so far has been critical a critical piece of
Starting point is 01:01:47 my recovery here i got something i got something positive i actually really appreciate how i i haven't seen a single canadians fan i'm sure you could find but i haven't seen a single canadians fan go come on where's carrie price everyone has understood nope he needs to do this good for him hope he gets well it's that it's been a big change eh in society for that i i would agree with that even even i think the canadians have seen this up close before because jonathan drew and sat out a good chunk of last year including the run of the stanley cup finals and i don't think that i don't know necessarily that had they not gone through the duran situation that it would be the same but i think the duran situation for not just canadians fans but for the nhl was a an nhl's fans
Starting point is 01:02:37 it was a really great learning lesson because there were people at the beginning who were like well like what is this and whatever you know the team moved on and they made it to the finals without him and i get it but i think over time and it takes people time to come to these conclusions you go oh he missed all that he didn't even try to come back when they made it to the stanley cup finals he missed all of it right did not come back that must have been serious and it's nice that people are starting to understand how important this sort of thing is so to your point steve i think the way that it's been handled has been great from the fans and the media side nobody's doing follow-up no one's trying to you know invade his house call his parents do what
Starting point is 01:03:22 you know what i mean which is stuff that used to happen god you know so uh it's it's nice that it's nice that that is happening and hi i was just uh i was just wondering if your son is hurt he is okay thank you that happened that was the thing that happened what holy shit sorry no talking about Leap's story. James Reimer from Many Moons Ago. Somebody called his parents to see what kind of injury he had. I feel like for the audience, you just get it on your phone
Starting point is 01:03:52 and just say that. What was the story? I'm not on my game today. What was the story? It was a reporter called James Reimer's mother and was basically like, so hey, why is he out?
Starting point is 01:04:05 And she, not knowing what to do in that situation, because I don't know if a lot of parents would know what to do in that situation. said uh what was ailing him so that's that's what happened there and uh i guess what you the reason you brought it up is you're glad no one has been like hey where you at how you feeling hanging out outside of his house yeah montreal media which is extremely tough extremely intense and for the most part i've i've seen nothing but support and and credit where it's due the montreal canadians did the right thing with uh jonathan drew and uh also with carrie price so far it's good yeah it's good
Starting point is 01:04:44 it's encouraging oh is that a is that hope are we wearing smiles maybe a little bit is that hope is that hope oh show title i don't want to set the wrong tone on this we're gonna mislead people completely fair enough yeah uh fair enough although our topic of conversation right off the top isn't any different yeah it's not really a wreck it's not really showing people where we're going yeah but i think i think with carrie too the the amount of strength that it would have taken to get to the point where you'd be able to write an update like that like no one asked carrie price for an update like we're all we're all obviously hoping that he's okay but if he had not given us an update we would have been like fine you keep doing you the update came out because on monday
Starting point is 01:05:30 there was the report that he was returning to the team remember I even mentioned it at the end of last episode I got a push notification from a sports app that hey he's coming back so he had to address it in that case because people were speculating that he's coming back but even still like Carey Price is returning to the ice that's a big
Starting point is 01:05:46 deal and all the reception I saw was ah cool you know like oh so he's playing next week or something like that like no no great he's back on the ice great like everyone just took it at face value it's great I like that
Starting point is 01:06:01 is that hope? what a great question hey the Montreal Canadiens drafted Logan Mayu it's the 2021 draft thanks Jesse that was dark man I mean you're right but I was trying to
Starting point is 01:06:19 let's not forget people's transgressions when they show you who they truly are believe them don't worry I hadn't forgotten great they're taking care of their a 10 million dollar goalie what happens in the actual things that matter in the recesses of the organization worth remembering i just wanted to scale back yeah a little i mean listen fair for this organization fair play fair play um i'm glad they've handled it this particular thing this way yes with now two players two two big keys to their
Starting point is 01:06:51 to their uh to what's happening in the future there sure um so you know we want to talk about some other hopeful things look at the edmonton island gee can we talk about that that's hope there i mean is there a more fun team to watch is there a more team that is more worth your time and money you know what i mean we we talked about we we've talked about who you pay to watch I mean are you ever sad that you bought a ticket to watch Connor McDavid play
Starting point is 01:07:27 it's funny because Shai Davidi just wrote an article like yesterday about how attendance is down especially in Alberta it's hugely down Winnipeg only had 10,000 people last night so I don't I don't know how it applies to
Starting point is 01:07:45 every other city I can only speak for the Leafs so the Leafs I don't think have had sellouts or they haven't had many sellouts they've been getting close they've been having lots of people like routinely 18 19 000 but that's not a sellout in that building and the pandemic cannot be uh dismissed in that case oh why aren't people coming back i don't know people are still weirded out about going in buildings full of 20 000 people it was weird for me it was weird for me like it was a weird feeling but one thing that hasn't been talked about i think it was you
Starting point is 01:08:21 brought it up adam the like the train like the main thing a lot of suburban people take to get to the games usually people pour in from the suburbs off of these trains they're running at like half capacity well not half capacity but i know that the so in ontario half as many trains i don't know what it's like anywhere else but i can tell you in ontario that we have a system called Metro links in the Toronto area. And they said by November 1st, you have to have your vaccine, full vaccine, both doses, or you're going to be on unpaid leave. And so November 1st came and they had to suspend 85 bus routes in the first day because of understaffing. And it's still a problem. And that means they canceled some train routes or they would slow the train
Starting point is 01:09:08 routes. So instead of coming every half an hour, it's once an hour, because so many people who work in those positions don't want to get a vaccine. So yeah, that can also be a problem. And Toronto's traffic, by the way, is... They're saying it's about 80% of what it was pre-pandemic. But the problem now is they've started a bunch of construction projects, and a lot of things are down to one lane. And then on top of that, the transit system that they have intentionally snarled traffic so that you'll take the transit system, because that's what they're doing in Toronto. They are taking the lanes down so more people use their bikes. Fair play. Completely understand that. And then they're like,
Starting point is 01:09:51 we also want you to use public transit. Well, they can't staff the transit because people can't. So they've snarled traffic so you'll take the thing, and then they can't staff the people. And I'll tell you this, the TTC union is fighting the vaccine mandate. they are fighting vaccine mandates on the ttc it's not a good look um and the police union was going to and then i think they backed off of it so it's just like there's a lot of it and and there's a lot of frustration and tension in the air right now and we're not even talking about how like terrible the transit system in uh the gta is set up already is where you can't like you can't get to it unless you drive to the transit yeah it's true it's yeah true in scarborough
Starting point is 01:10:36 people are upset like we're doing uh if you're not from scarborough you will get this but imagine you're a part of a city but the subway just doesn't come to you and so um in in scarborough which is an enormous neighborhood in toronto i think there's maybe 600 000 people there um where steve and i are from there was an lrt which is like a little light ramp rapid transit that connects to a subway but the majority of scarborough can't even get to the lrt in less than half an hour so you would be bus lrt and your minimum 45 minutes before you hit the subway to go downtown which is at least another 25 30 um we in the before time in the long long ago uh if we were like having drinks on the uh in the west end of the city my wife and i would always
Starting point is 01:11:26 like have the conversation all right so we need to take a cab to the train station then we both got to get train tickets and then we got to take a cab from the train to our house or for 15 extra dollars we can uber home from downtown toronto west side of downtown toronto to oshawa which is about like 35 kilometers and you can sleep oh it's way further than that it's uh it might be 60 door to get to the virgin radio studios where we did the podcast was like 75 kilometers there you and it's like a hundred bucks to uber that far but doing transit is like 60 for 15 more but and the train stops at a certain time so i gotta leave by a certain time and what if there's traffic getting to the bucket here's 15 extra dollars so i can actually enjoy my night anyway so that's why
Starting point is 01:12:22 i hate that this conversation started with connor mcdave yeah i hate so much of this conversation we're just we're having a moan today we're having we're upset but uh the edmonton oilers are the most fun team in the national hockey league and they might be the best team so let me ask you this i don't know if there's a might about it who's the best player in the world is conor mcdavid who's the second best player in the world leon dry saddle who had more points than conor mcdavid who's the third best person player in the world yeah just just name one i'm not there's not a test number two is nathan mckinnon you think number two you think nathan number three is andre vasilevsky no i'm talking skaters just skaters all right let's make it easy
Starting point is 01:13:02 okay okay yeah number two is nathan mckinnon wow that's where i would put it i don't think that's crazy i i think mckinnon should be top three on most lists okay and then you get into crosby ovechkin should probably be in there matthews should be somewhere in there um i so i was having a conversation with someone yesterday a bunch of the lightning uh who is healthy he's probably i probably slot him above dry a dry saddle comes in at four wow because i i don't know how much you got to take off for the mcdavid bump see a lot of oilers fans fight back again yeah now why do they do that i want to know about that well it was a reasonable it's a reasonable question because they play together a lot
Starting point is 01:13:45 yeah they play together all the time and they kill it and dry saddle does kill it on his own though he does kill it on his own but like he's killed it on his own for like the three weeks or so that he's had to you know what i mean but watching them play this year like this year in particular you start watching him and you go oh holy shit it might be yeah i don't know they could be one and two if the conversation is just based on this year it's one two but if you take in the totality of hey the last couple of seasons i probably rank it a little different but one two yeah this world is what have you done for me lately and uh right now it's it's one two and watching mcdavid just torch torch the new york ranger almost all of them the question i had
Starting point is 01:14:37 though this is where i was going sorry the reason i asked is no you don't want to talk about transit i don't i so here's so your top three jesse is is if it's this year i'll give you i'll give you mcdavid dry okay all right mcdavid dry sidle who mckinnon okay mckinnon's having it down here but i still put him three yeah whoa man that's really difficult i you know what it's what have what have you done for me lately and we haven't seen crosby i'll still throw at crosby okay okay so is the gap between conor mcdavid and leon dry sidle bigger than the gap between leon dry sidle and crosby that was the question okay so is the gap between one and two bigger than the gap between two and three yes because well no one can do the things mcdavid does right like not even dry saddle this
Starting point is 01:15:30 is somebody somebody was talking to from edmonton yesterday said i wanted to i want you to bring this up i think it's an interesting question here's here's why this conversation is always difficult because rather than the the way the conversation goes is it rarely lifts number one up it pushes number two down right so we're talking about dry sidles faults or we're talking about the things he does that are inferior to mcdavid which isn't fair no but like okay i don't care what his point totals are i don't care how he's looked this season if aliens came to earth and you had to beat them in a hockey game or they destroy the earth
Starting point is 01:16:09 and there was only one room for one player left and you have to choose between McDavid and Dreisaitl to play for the fate of earth I'm picking Iguodala that's my favorite
Starting point is 01:16:25 YouTube video of all time Max Kellerman is a god just for that he goes in the sports hall of fame for that can you explain that context Max Kellerman at the I realized what I was saying in the middle of it 20 I think it's
Starting point is 01:16:41 18 It might have been the Raptors it might have been 2019 At NBA Finals whatever whichever one it was They have their studio desk with him And Skip or not Skip Him and Stephen A and they're asking Him the host asked him they're like okay You get one shot
Starting point is 01:16:56 You get one shot One player at the end of the game Who are you going to take Out of anybody in the league are you gonna are you gonna take steph curry because steph was going off and max kellerman he sits there and he says god he he dramatizes it so much he goes gun to the earth one shot i'm taking igudala and he takes andre igudala for the last shot of the game with the world on the line and it wasn't even like usually hosts will disagree with each other and they'll
Starting point is 01:17:30 be animated about it they just all looked at him like you really are stupid you're a dumb guy it's like are you just trying to be different it was yeah yeah i believe it was a follow-up on a point because he had said on a previous show that he would take andre igudala over steph curry or in something in those regards so they followed up andre igudala is probably like no yeah i don't even take me so they followed up next show and they're like what are you what are you talking about keller here's here's here's the equivalent all right who's better crosby malkin all right gun to the earth fate of the world on the line i'm taking jake genzel that's literally and there's nothing wrong with jake genzel but you have
Starting point is 01:18:14 crosby and malkin what are you talking about i'm taking jake genzel the the topic there you know i have it up here the topic on the show on first take that day was who do you want to take the last shot iggy or steph and matt kellen decided to triple down on that moment it's one of the best uh sports media moments of the last decade it was unbelievable at the time and it still is oh thank you thank you for this laugh anyway sorry gun to the earth fate of the world on the line you have to pick between Connor McDavid or Leon Dreisaitl you're picking
Starting point is 01:18:55 McDavid yes and the reason you're doing that is because it's the correct answer and nothing against Leon Dreisaitl it's Connor McDavid does things that a list of maybe three guys ever have ever done next question is the gap
Starting point is 01:19:10 this was during the Raptors finals that's what I remember is the gap between look at his face please screen grab it just for the context because i know we can't show the footage is the gap between is the gap between two and five greater than one and two as in is mcdavid that much better than say dry sidle over who you ever whoever you would have at number five be it matthews be it ovechkin be it crosby be it mckinnon the cap the gap between one and two versus the gap between two and five yeah uh i think one and two might be bigger because two to
Starting point is 01:19:51 five there's a lot more debate that's what i mean yeah you can't it that's how good mcdavid is that's how good he is see where you're doing it the right way you're elevating you can't debate one the other positions you can debate interesting yeah okay just want to ask that i also think yeah the other positions interchange month to month no connor mcdavid number one the whole time and Jesse illustrated it perfectly. This year, I'll give you Dreisaitl. Yeah. Yeah, as two.
Starting point is 01:20:17 As two, for sure, yeah. Even in his Hart Trophy year, McDavid was the better player. He's always the better player. McDavid should have been the Hart Trophy winner that year. But that's not the award. I think that's part of the reason there's pushback against Dreisaitl, because that trophy made a lot of people outside of Edmonton go, all right, that's enough.
Starting point is 01:20:36 We get it. He's good. But what are we all doing here? yeah but and then dry sidle went oh really and decided to get even better might be my coldest take ever i was like i can't believe that they gave him that much money oh oh yeah we all kind of did right didn't we all kind of say well that that seems like a big hefty extension idiot no the oilers made a bet um what did they make a good bet and because at the time the the players with Dreisaitl's career to that point
Starting point is 01:21:07 were not getting that type of contract. They weren't getting that type of money at all. And there were some doubts. Well, he grew into it. Now, Leon Dreisaitl hits the open market. He's getting more than Artemi Pinar. 13 or 14 million. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:23 I'm not kidding. So, 8.5 mil? Is it 8.5 or 9.5? 8.5. Oh my god. Yeah. So, then here's my last question for you guys. Okay. I have a follow-up about Dreisaitl. Is McKinnon mckinnon's still on that weird 6.5 million dollar deal right 6 3 6 3 it's outside of nathan mckinnon because that has to be the best value contract in the nhl for number two is leon dry saddle
Starting point is 01:21:49 the second best value contract in the nhl okay whenever someone is making like a solid four million dollars under their market value they have to be in the conversation and he's one of And McKinnon's got to be under $6 million, $7 million. McKinnon is making $6.3 million this year and next year. I want to die. $6.3 million. He deserves that. Colorado should be like, yo, sorry, Nate.
Starting point is 01:22:15 Let's tear this up. Let's tear this contract up and start again. That's the window, by the way. Oh, he'll make a huge contract after this. Are you kidding me? You better win. No, he said, I'll take a discount next time, too. but a discount for nathan mckinnon next time is like 10 mil yeah oh man so what was your follow
Starting point is 01:22:35 what was your last question my question was is we know nathan mckinnon is the is the the best value contract in the nhl is leon dry sidle number two or is it troy terry and anaheim was currently fifth in nhl you could probably put uh crosby at 8.7 yeah you know who gets lost in a lot of conversation i actually don't know what this player makes right now but if he's on the contract i remember victor headman i think should potentially be in this conversation headman make 7.8 yeah that's a good deal that's a good deal because guys were getting look at what defensemen are getting right now and look at the big three from a few years ago ekman larson and they were eight and a half well ekman larson got eight and a half carlson and dowdy both got
Starting point is 01:23:23 over 11 or one of them got 11 the other got 11 and a half i don't remember who no dowdy got 10 didn't he or did he get 11 and then he negotiated without his agent right i think he got 11 i'm gonna give you a couple more contenders edmund it's a good deal all three of them are on one line together oh no patrice bergeron oh no 6.8 david pasternak 6.6 brad marshand 6.1 that's pretty good those are all uh a couple of those are less than mckinnon the perfection the the robbery line the oh man bergeron is still the highest paid boston bruin at 6.8 nobody else on the roster makes more than that the coupon line that's wow i remember we talked about the posture knock deal and people were like oh he took them or what was the quote from him
Starting point is 01:24:14 well he was he was like oh if i could play for free i would or whatever and so i was like then do it. Then do it. Play for league men. He practically is. Jeremy Jacobs will let you. He will let you. Do it. I have a question about Dreisaitl and how he's going to be looked at. I don't know if
Starting point is 01:24:32 we give Malkin enough credit for that he could be a first-line center on 32 NHL teams for his entire career, but he has to play a second-line center role. How do we look at Dreisaitl in his career when we say, hey, you got to play with the best player in the world?
Starting point is 01:24:48 um i don't think it's ever hurt well you know who like let's let's look in the past at players this has applied to i think this is probably applied to mark messier and no one's like i don't know if this messier guy deserves to be in the hall of fame you know for a while i think that applied to yarmir yogger who played with mario lemieux yogger's the best player in the world no he's not he's not even the best penguin it's mario lemieux um and furthermore could you argue at one point the penguins had one two three with francis with ron francis who was fourth in all time scoring probably not because wayne gretzky still played at the time and so did steve eiserman and joe sackick was in there well maybe three of the top 10 easily potentially i don't think
Starting point is 01:25:39 anybody can argue that so you you look at legacies and they haven't really been tarnished by that like it hasn't it hasn't hurt messier although i don't know if anyone ever actually called him number two i'm not old enough um and uh yeah i don't know and none of the red wings we all just sort of look at the red wings and go jesus christ look at the red wings they're great yeah you don't take fedor off down a peg no and it wasn't even one two we just look at that entire team and we go Eisenman was the best one and holy shit to the rest of them yeah
Starting point is 01:26:12 Kirk Maltby and Chris Draper who I don't know if either of them ever got more than 40 points in a season played for Canada at the Olympics and it worked they won they needed a shutdown line because they needed a shutdown line that's overrated
Starting point is 01:26:29 it did work what will the reaction be as I cross my leg when Zach Hyman makes Team Canada this year. I'll be good with it. It's the wrong choice. Yeah, but you've seen it work. Yeah, but you have nine centers you can take.
Starting point is 01:26:46 Do that. I don't know. I just like that everyone's like, oh man, is he going to be this year's Chris Kunitz pick? Oh, you mean that pick the year they won? They didn't win because of that. No, but who was close? No one was close. Just get used to the idea that Canada's not winning gold this year and it's not going to
Starting point is 01:27:02 be Zach Hyman's fault. That Canada's not winning gold no i think they are winning gold and it will be his fault uh that's a that's a donut bet i i will don't i don't want a donut bet against canada you just did and put them in the shape of the winning goals guys the the goaltending situation is a problem for canada it's a problem do i get to be the the beneficiary of a donut it's a problem you know you're on would you not agree that it's a problem i'm on your team wait okay who's who's taking what adam's picking team us I'm not betting against Canada ever I never bet against the Leafs and I never bet against Canada
Starting point is 01:27:35 You can have the field We'll take Canada, you get every other team Canada versus the field, do you want it? I'll fucking take that I'll take those odds I'm still cheering for Canada by the way Yeah, you can cheer for them You put the money there
Starting point is 01:27:52 Okay, done It's the Justin Bourne philosophy of betting When you're like If you were a betting man versus the canadians and the leafs this past posting you would put all your money on the canadians because either way you'd be happy in the end right yeah so you're putting all i think i think that their goaltending is going to be a problem unless mark andre flurry can sort it out and he had a good performance last night but like we need mark andre flurry is like help me obi-wan
Starting point is 01:28:19 kenobi you're my only hope um cj on the chris johnston show with never heard of it spicy too long well we have a we have a rather rare situation and i didn't think of it until he mentioned it one of the worst teams in the league has the reigning vesna winner and there are several pretty good teams who need help in net imagine the edmonton oilers go out and they get mark andre flurry well could they get him for free probably not probably not that'd be a really great pickup for them he i'm trying to remember the names he brought up how do they make that work with the conjure i don't know but they you could find a way there's there's russell and oilers the oilers could use help in that the avalanche of darcy kemper doesn't turn it around
Starting point is 01:29:07 and the leafs on account of they may literally need a goalie are you saying the leafs getting blurred hold on where's alan at on that can you I'll talk to Alan. Answer the question. Hey, you know what would be great? We'd have the two nicest goaltenders in the league. It would be Jack Campbell and Marc-Andre Fleury. Sorry, James.
Starting point is 01:29:28 You're number three. Can you imagine James joins that team? Look at this jerk. Literally the Care Bearers in that. But very successful. By the way, James Reimer leads the NHL in, what is it? Hang on. He is the leader in goals against average right now.
Starting point is 01:29:46 in San Jose. Doesn't Freddie lead in save percentage? Yes, and Freddie is also fourth in goals against average. I just want you guys to know that the Leafs could have had both of them. And I honestly thought I was like, yeah, Freddie can't come back. He came back and he's really good. I didn't think he'd be able to do that. I didn't think so either. James Reimer
Starting point is 01:30:03 does this every so often. He does. And every time everyone's like, oh, look at the guy who's done this many times. He's a good goalie, everyone. The save percentage leader right now is Bobrovsky at 948. Reimer at 946. Markstrom at 940
Starting point is 01:30:18 Merzlikens in Columbus at 940 And Freddie Anderson at 939 Okay, so he doesn't lead He's at 5th, what did you say? Bobrovsky, huh? Reimer is 2nd, Freddie is 5th And also I believe Jack Campbell in the 930s, or he was
Starting point is 01:30:34 Yeah, number 8, 929 now Yeah, Kings game hurt him Not his fault Although, yeah, Canada's Jordan Bennington Oh yeah, I think Bennington's the starter He's having a great year, 928 save per save. Yeah, I don't think Fleury's the starter.
Starting point is 01:30:50 Did Anderson become a Canadian citizen when he moved here? It'd be nice. Yeah. I know Igor Korolev did at one point, and I remember thinking, if he ever made the Canadian Olympic team, would he? Can you imagine? Messier passes to Igor Korolev,
Starting point is 01:31:05 who passes it to Rob Zaminer, who made it over Mark Messier one year. Are you regretting your pick now? after learning that binnington i'll take the field great i'll take the field and i think that's i think anybody would tell you take the field if you can i have way better they used to have in the late 90s early 2000s you used to be able to bet on the field against tiger wood wow because he because he won like 12 out of 17 majors in the span of like four years man that was an unbelievable you would have lost money taking the field against tiger it was one of the greatest runs in
Starting point is 01:31:41 professional sports history you know who i think told the story was elliot friedman on 31 thoughts where in in uh fantasy pools for hockey you used to not be allowed to pick gretzky because it was cheating like it's okay if you get gretzky you win you just win unless the rest of your team stinks you just win and i'm doing fantasy this year and i'm looking at a couple of the people in our little league who have McDavid and another has Drysaddle and I'm like this is a bit unfair
Starting point is 01:32:14 this is a bit unfair because the rest of your team is like I mean you should have beat me this week alright fair play but you shouldn't have blown me out of the water and it's because you got a guy who's scoring at two and a half points per game I have a friend who I have a friend who is a multi-year
Starting point is 01:32:30 I have a friend who is a multi-year fantasy league going so you can see is that what it's called dynasty so yeah that you can trade draft picks for next year so he got mcdavid and dry sidle because he he sold out at the end of last year i would leave the crushing it he's just i would leave rushing it he got pick one and two i would leave it's amazing amazing anyways that's so dumb he's already got like what 60 points yeah yeah let's do the press conference two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer That's why every step and dollar raised matters.

The Presser SDP the steve dangle press conference the nhl point leaders are as follows by the way dry settle 23 mcdavid 23 ovechkin 21 kyle connor 17 and troy terry from anaheim was 16 everybody had troy terry right troy anyway i uh remember the ducks were like shopping him
Starting point is 01:34:23 so one of the the highlight features of the app we've mentioned this before has been sdpn radio oh yes people have been going crazy for sdpn on our discord channel if you're not on our discord go to sdpn.ca and join our discord we've also started a request
Starting point is 01:34:41 server so people make requests for old episodes they want to hear and then I just plug them into the system then they'll pop up on sdpn radio and I let them know what time it'll play and they tune in so people have been listening a lot and they've gone back and they hear takes from the past it's just it should just be called times we were wrong so that's essentially what it's turned into it's turned into hey steve you said this in 2018 and look all right it's gonna be hard to top i wouldn't trade kisperi caspin and uh for
Starting point is 01:35:14 Alec Campbell and Alec Martinez It's going to be really hard to top that So that's the standard So this is the one we have today This is from Let me just read the username JazzyBear12 Adam said
Starting point is 01:35:30 It's probably going to be Spezza's last year in the league May 31st 2018 Adam Wild said that He was with Dallas at that point And if you watched him in Dallas at that point you could probably understand why i felt that way jazzy bear wants to know well how
Starting point is 01:35:49 did that turn out out it didn't turn out well well see that was adam in 2018 but more recently i've said spezza wasn't an everyday player you know what i said and he's gotten he's gotten better in each year's elite yes it shouldn't happen this way but it is and it's great i can beat you oh no i remember when jason spezza was first with the toronto may police and babcock was still the coach and he got scratched on opening night and i said i don't understand what the big deal is here oh i said i said the same thing i said i don't i don't understand why this is a problem this is not an everyday player he's he's on a league men deal he'll be fine and there was the argument that he's this is babcock establishing no one is safe right but i didn't know the context of like
Starting point is 01:36:35 he got 35 family members tickets i did not know he's still incredibly good yeah man i'm glad i didn't know he had that i'm glad cj and julian took it but i intentionally avoided the sportsnet article with babcock last episode because um yeah he's just such a jackass sometimes and i like it just it just does not play well and you're just like this guy sucks well this guy sucks i was sort of with cj in that he just didn't say anything he just doubled down on what he said before yeah like how are we supposed to sorry i don't want to call him a jackass it's not fair all his comments were jackassery is that fair that's another question i'm sure oh no he's not a jackass to everybody knows yeah this is from star v why do leafs fans
Starting point is 01:37:22 have faith in the panthers core but not their own the panthers core has never made it past the first round and has missed the playoffs multiple times between their playoff appearances. Huberto, 28. Barkov, 26. Yeah, because you guys don't have a history of fucking up in
Starting point is 01:37:41 unbelievably cartoony ways that if they were written into a movie, you wouldn't believe it. Yeah, I think it's not that, it's like the Panthers failed when we expected the Panthers to fail. You know the South Park episode where Stan has to coach
Starting point is 01:37:57 a team against the Detroit Red Wings, and then the Red Wings kill them? The Leafs would lose. They would lose. I'm telling you, they're going to lose that outdoor game at Tim Hortons Field. I'm telling you. You guys think I'm crazy.
Starting point is 01:38:13 They're playing Buffalo. Look at how good Buffalo's been. You think the Leafs are going to win that game? I'll put a donut bet on that. They got Buffalo Saturday. I'll take Buffalo on that all day. I'll take some Tim Hortons donuts on that too. Guaranteed the numbers for Saturday's stream are going to be better
Starting point is 01:38:29 because people are going, I might see you guys' headaches. Jesse, what else we got? We had someone speculating that the Vegas Golden Knights might bring back Jack Eichel on March 10th, speaking of Buffalo, because they play the Buffalo Sabres
Starting point is 01:38:48 on March 10th. That would be super duper. That was from Soap underscore Dispenser. Eichel's recovery, as discussed in the last episode, is three to five months. i'm sure for calorie salary cap reasons the knights wouldn't do this but how great plus hilarious would it be if eichel to make his debut in four months on march 10th in buffalo i love that it would be amazing for us i think it'd be bad for jack i don't think you want his first
Starting point is 01:39:10 game back to be emotional you want him to get his his feet wet the like crosby's big comeback game was some random game like i think it was a week night game against the islanders mcdavid's collarbone comeback game was against the blue jackets you know what i mean don't have it be in buffalo does he get booed or cheered yes i think the answer is yes i think there will there will literally be fights in the crowd that night because of sides being picked like two sabers fans wearing sabers jerseys buffa slugs flying all over the place love that final question
Starting point is 01:39:48 I want you guys to define this for me this is from Reed how big does a building have to be to no longer be a rink but an arena where do we cross the threshold of rink to arena I'd say if it has a roof
Starting point is 01:40:05 it's an arena no because most rinks are indoor it wasn't Heron Park rink Heron Park arena i'd say moss park is a rink it's an arena though they say morris park arena i guess you're right but if you're like i'm going to the rink and it's moss park is that i don't think that's wrong but i think people use that as it you're right i think it's a roof i think man you're right the arena
Starting point is 01:40:28 the arena has a rink in it that's how i look at it i don't know i think you say rink as like uh as like a joke jocular term right you're just joking around it's not a um yeah i think rink is actually an outdoor thing skating rink it's always outdoor i i when i when i i'm agreeing with you by the way yeah because when i go to a leaf game i walk into the arena and then i uh slowly walk down towards the rink yeah but that's not what the question the arena no it's it's a it's a roof it's a roof yeah it's a roof yeah or if you're in etobicoke it's an iceplex in it or in burlington where they have those really nice arenas all the toronto ones apparently were built in 1967 for expo 67 they haven't been updated since there's no room and
Starting point is 01:41:19 then well no but you could just update what's there but in in like burlington and stuff like that they have these multi-pad arenas that are literally like walking into an nhl style arena and you go, oh my god, look at this. NHL-style rink. Fair enough. How dare I? Fair enough. I mean, they're nicer than what the Leafs practice in, a lot of those
Starting point is 01:41:41 arenas. And we call it a practice rink, but it's in an arena. Plex. Because the rink is inside. The rink is the rink. Yeah. But if it's just a rink, then it's outside. But if there's an arena around the rink, then it's an arena. So if I tell
Starting point is 01:41:57 you I'm going to the rink, it has to be an outdoor skating rink. But if we're inside the arena, you could say, I'm going to ice rink too, because there's like six of them. But if I'm going to somewhere indoor, I'm not going to the rink. The building is not the rink. You could call
Starting point is 01:42:13 it that, and I would know what you mean. We're not talking about that. Yeah, if you're in the arena, the rink... You'd still have an ice rink in the Scotiabank Arena. I would never say I'm five feet up from the rink. I would say I'm five feet up from the ice. But it's a rink.
Starting point is 01:42:28 okay you ever say a word enough that you rink seems weird to me now i don't like it we should change the name of it what about pad ice pad some of them do say that not also uncomfortable with me but uh we can figure you out how many different words are there for a hockey rink ice pad rink rink arena stop saying it it's a terrible word it is rink rink rinky dink what age are your children gonna start playing hockey no four four months ago on ice on ice uh i'm gonna teach everly to skate this winter because she can walk now i know a lot of people do that before they can walk or whatever but i'm not not a crazy person so i i do have a rink near my uh near my house with like literally two doors or two streets down which is just a frozen pond
Starting point is 01:43:21 and kids during the pandemic that's all they would do they would just not go to school and play hockey outside which was really cool and honestly i would drive home every day i'd be like are these kids are they is this happening and they're supposed to be at school i feel old saying that uh but i'm gonna i've got little skates for ev so i'm gonna take her and she's gonna probably hate it at the beginning although maybe she'll like it and we're gonna skate without sticks and stuff and then eventually we'll we'll get there but i wanted to i want to go skating at least once a week if i can i saw someone uh did you have a jolly jumper yes okay so for those of you who don't know it's sort of like a like a the seat of a swing but you got to strap your kid in so
Starting point is 01:44:04 they don't fly yeah and they just sort of bounce on this little trampoline spaceship thing that gets bounced but you can take the cord attachment off like i would do that with leo and just walk around the house and do curls with them and it'd be it'd be funny it's just like he's like a 15 pound dumbbell it's it's very funny i saw someone do that while on skates with like a five month old on video if i was there i might have been like i don't know but uh yeah they were doing it with a five month old and they were pretending that the five month old was skating now that's for the parent and the five month old is getting nothing out of that so i don't know how much i like that very much that that that description of that video is more uncomfortable than rink
Starting point is 01:44:46 to me you know as i was saying it out loud i'm like it actually sounds pretty dangerous would youtube allow this and this was a like a this was uh this was a lake are we gonna get demonetized because of this would there be a flag from google on the youtube video that says this act is dangerous no it's it's just when you put when you skate with the jolly jumper and a bunch of red flag emojis it's it's only that sort of it's only that tweet it's only that uh leo i want to get on the ice this winter but like knowing full well he's not even gonna be able to stand and so is that for me or for him will he enjoy it i don't know you know what he is doing he doesn't i don't know if i told the story last show he doesn't have the wheel snipe thing down but he does have the
Starting point is 01:45:31 celly well that's good that's the most important most important so he knows what a hockey stick is and you tell him get your hockey stick picks it up then he goes over to the nearest ball it's usually a soccer ball so it's okay he'll learn and he'll go up to it and he'll literally just like tap it with his stick and then he drops the stick and goes and claps for himself oh my god because we applaud when he does the right thing we're teaching him to kick and uh teaching him how to hit a ball he's got one of the best laughs i've ever heard from anything it's a great laugh um well listen he's today oh sorry no please please oh just end it on a good note when i see him in the morning he goes dad dad and folks let me tell you yeah that's pretty great for
Starting point is 01:46:16 halloween did i tell you this i don't know we were going up to houses have at least first halloween because obviously last year was out and uh she go hi i'm avic and this is dad oh i didn't tell her to i don't know why she was doing that but she likes to introduce she says please and thank you it's really nice it's good she uh earlier i was uh i said you know why you gotta boss people around to everly or no or are you bossing people around and she goes yes so uh anyway listen today's show is a bit up and down but so is so is life right uh that's the way it's going and uh um we'll obviously hit some more updates for you as the uh this the thing goes on but i do want you to check out the latest agent provocateur there's a bit of a hockey escape
Starting point is 01:47:01 some good stories with Martin Havlat and Alan Walsh who have known each other for 20 years. Marty Havlat said first thing that struck me about Alan is he talked a lot. And I thought that was very funny. And then CJ's show brand new tomorrow with CJ and Julian. Julian back in Montreal unfortunately.
Starting point is 01:47:31 Connection complete.
