It is a crime against being Canadian

That is a rule.
You know that.
I know that because we are Canadian,
and if you roll up that rim before you are done,
you're out of this country.

The chemicals. You got to have the right chemicals.
See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I

Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Trade Deadline live stream. I'm Adam Wild. That's Steve Dangle.
and that extraordinarily handsome, tall, beautiful man in the red.
You already introduced me.
Yeah, what are you doing?
You already said Steve Dangle.
Is Drew in the next room.
No, I'm kidding.
It's Jesse Blake.
But the whole crew's on site today, which is cool for us
because a lot of work at SDPN is done from home.
And so it's good.
We got a packed building.
We got a crazy trade deadline.
We thought this might be, on Wednesday, a dud.
But this has turned out to be one of the best trade deadlines
any of us can remember.
Why don't we stop?
What do you mean?
Oh, you know what?
I think the four nations is going to be a dud.
Oh, I didn't say that.
I don't know who you're talking about.
Well, there are some people.
Yeah, there's some people.
You know why?
And I think they should stop people.
You know why?
Because it's easier to be negative.
Yeah.
Because you know what?
Sometimes people are like, I'm just going to be negative.
So if it is bad because it's hard to make something good, then I look like I'm the smartest guy in the room.
And you know what, Adam?
It gets the clicks.
It does get the clicks.
Those people are just looking for the clicks.
It's negative.
Yeah.
Could not be me.
True.
True.
Farce, Jesse Blake.
Farce.
Uh, now, so this is a live stream podcast, but it is a normal podcast.
The difference though, is we'll be checking in with the press conference multiple times.
So if you have super chats and that sort of thing, questions you want to ask, I understand
that there's a lot of people in the chat.
Uh, we're going to try to get them, get to them all.
No, wait, we got to prove to people that this is actually live.
How?
Penis.
Oh, okay.
All right.
We really wish, wish we didn't, uh, wish we didn't do that.
Okay.
No, I'm kidding.
Um, I, let's start with, let's start with, I think where, um, our fandom starts.
It's a big, big day.
If you're a Leafs fan, it's a big, big day.
If you're a Bruins fan, it's a big, big day.
If you're a Panthers fan, it's a big, big day.
If you're an Ottawa Senators fan.
So we're, we're doing stars, stars start.
Well, I was just going to say Atlantic division.
That's where I was sort of starting with that.
But yeah, stars had a big day.
Avs had a big day.
Vegas, quiet day, but still did make a move.
And some really perplexing days from teams like Carolina.
Oh, dear.
Detroit, not sure what's going on there.
And a few others.
I don't want to get too negative.
I want to get negatory, okay?
So let's start with what we've just kind of learned.
We know that Brad Marchand is on his way to Florida.
That follows Seth Jones being on his way to Florida a few days ago
with some salary retained for the next five years.
Brad Marchand's contract, it's looking like the deal,
and it's not totally confirmed yet,
but the deal is a 2027 second round pick.
That's it.
That will conditionally move to a 2028 first if certain conditions are met.
You can't trade a 2028 first, but you can trade a 2027 draft pick that turns into a 28 because technically it's a 2027.
Still don't know what the conditions are, but I got to ask you first as a Leaf fan, okay?
How does the prospect of Brad Marchand joining up with Sam Bennett and Matthew Kachuk and the Monstars in Florida,
i what feeling does it fill you with uh dread anger um whatever emotion the joker had when he
was laughing for real and because he had that weird tick i didn't like that film i like the
previous version of the joker anyway maddie pointed out that that is probably the craziest
180 and emotions i've ever had in these studios it was announced that marshan was going to the
panthers and i was writhing in pain like i was being haunted by nosferatu and like it was just
did he appear in your bedroom and did you make out with him just going to the panthers um hated it
hated it a lot dude it's a nightmare it's a nightmare they could potentially line up in the
first round it's not against the Bruins the Bruins finally missed the playoffs it's ding
dong the witch is dead for at very least the time being they could come back next year
and be fine and dandy they're not now they're gone
Marshand has been traded to the Panthers
have i made myself clear i think i think he doesn't love it i hate it a lot and of all the
places why didn't you know what patriotism can blind you
i my spidey senses should have i just heard myself scream down the hall because there's a delay no
There should have been.
My spidey senses should have been tingling when Marchand got put on a line with Sam Bennett at the Four Nation faceoff.
The prospect of putting them with Matthew Kachuk.
I want to die.
Winning the division is necessary.
It is a borderline requirement to enter the Stanley Cup playoffs today.
Oh, my God.
who wants to play the florida panthers round one raise your hand raise your hand boys and
girls anyone matthew kachuk in the lineup or not don't want to play no i don't want to play
him with with or without no ew yucky no no thank no thank you i don't want that at all
so i was devastated and angry and sad and oh turned on but in like a frightened way
like it was it was an awful two or three minutes or so and then we find out the Leafs are getting
Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins so what's funny a lot of you probably haven't seen it yet
we did a video about um it was the Charlie Coyle Casey Middlestat trade and I was like you know
what I really like this deadline from the Bruins because like they're selling and they're getting
assets but they're also staying competitive and like they have um aspirations of like ah playing
meaningful games down the stretch who knows maybe a squeak in play a few playoff games who knows
yep right and then bang bang one after the other they get rid of carlo yep which really surprises
me because it's not really a move they had to do yep and they get rid of marsham like
there's no way they make it well yeah but it's the it's not their goal anymore it's not their
goal it's not their goal like they're waving the white flag they know that they have to retool for
next season based on this entire season how it's gone if you've watched any bruins games you know
they don't have it the amount of leads i've seen them cough up on like a saturday before the
leafs game it's it's unbearable if you're a bruins fan you know what there's a greater than
zero percent chance of happening though the florida panthers win the atlantic uh and the
bruins get into one of the wild card spots and play the panthers there's no way that would be
fun it's not gonna happen but it would be psychos that would be fun so the the florida panthers get
brad marsh and he fits their dna perfectly it's it couldn't no assembly required the the panthers
stand on the on the shoulders of giants and the giants are brad marchand and zidane ochara
and patrice bergeron and i want to i have a crazy stat for you guys are you ready no this will be
the first time since 2002 that a bruins roster will not feature one of patrice bergeron brad
marchand or zidane ochara wow talk about continuation i always get offended when
people remark how many gray hairs i have first time since grade nine steve it is incredible
the amount of hair i have period given that fact that you that you don't have a beautifully bald
head right now absolutely you know how they're always like oh well it's actually your mother's
father yeah he was bald all right stop telling me that it doesn't make me comfortable doesn't
make me feel good about it the fact i mean the bruins are there's a reason i have a reverence
for them i hate them viscerally but the reverence is they always go out and they find the
bruiniest bruins that ever bruined which is why i'm very concerned that they got fraser mitten
well well but i'm what i'm talking about is florida though is they seem to have they're
the next Bruins I think they're the current Bruins I it you don't need to be the next anything when
you're the reigning Stanley Cup champions right right um they're looking to just continue uh
being the Panthers they're they're how many like rentals were there today like Rantanen's not a
rental not a whole lot right there were some Marchand is a pure rental but Seth Jones that's
a forward-thinking move Brandon Carlo's forward-thinking uh Scott Lawton is forward-thinking
um trying to think around the league here like the it's it's a new world where the buyers and
or the sellers and the buyers are trying to think forward marshan is one of the few pure rentals we
saw today yeah yeah and an absolute dna fit jesse i if you listen to wednesday's podcast you heard
me say this but the florida panthers i think are the most disrespected stanley cup champions ever
because people don't look at them as a juggernaut that are the reigning cup champions that should
be a problem for any team in this league. And that's exactly what they are. And once they get
to the playoffs and the entire lineup is healthy, aka Kachuk comes back, you have a top six of
Verhege, Barkov, Reinhardt, Marchand, Bennett, Kachuk. That's the best playoff top six in the
league and I put that distinction on on the top six and that it's a playoff top six because that
can play playoff hockey like no other because of the compete because of the level that the
Kachuks and Marchand can get to plus you have Barkov and there's best defensive center in the
world so I think like nobody can compete with this team right now especially in the east well
their third line is Lindell Lusterine and whoever wins the lottery of getting to play with those
two yeah and then your fourth line whoever is on it you're you're you're the fourth line on a
paul maurice coach team your goal and objective every shift is murder right and what's that who's
on it uh right now jesse aj greer huge nico stern he won a cup as a depth player with the abs in
2022 and jonah gadjovich and then that's not to mention the defense where i think their top four
is the best in the East where you have Forsling Ekblad Mikula Seth Jones who was just recently
acquired and then in net you have the guy who just went four rounds of playoffs and we're like oh
Bob's cooked four different times in his career and was the best goalie in the playoffs like this
team is unbelievable they deserve more respect and we should all look at them as the top of the
mountain and everybody's got to take that belt from them because they're holding it right now
now I know Dallas and Colorado have some pretty formidable top sixes as well I I would put Toronto
in there too uh but i would not hey hey not necessarily to the same level but anytime any
team that's got austin matthews william nylander and mitch martin it's going to be pretty good
playoff top sixes though in the cap era that might be the best one we'll see that we'll see what the
result is but like think about anything that pittsburgh put out i know they included crosby
but who was he playing with um think about anything that la did think about anything that
chicago did like it is i and and the talent is spread it's not one or two players this is a
they're just every one of them sucks there's there's not the best way yeah there's not a
single player uh in that florida top six where you're like all right let's see what he can do
right you already know yeah this is ninth circle of hell for any team that plays them in the first
round there was a time where it was like brian rust well let's see what he can do and then we
found out what he could do yeah Nick Bonino Chris Kunitz well let's let's see what he can do but
um RIP the HBK line um this is stupendously formidable crazy and you know and Steve
mentioned of course that there was a huge dramatic flare-up here and probably where you are if you're
a Leaf fan uh when you saw Brad Marchand go to Florida followed by a an emotional swing in the
other direction when it started to leak out that the Toronto Maple Leafs had made a trade now we
knew uh just based on a James Myrtle tweet that something was going on and then we knew that a
pick and a prospect were going but we didn't know what was going and then we saw and David Alter was
the one that I think that caught this uh Connor Timmons being pulled off the ice and so so far
what we know is that
Conor Dimmons and Conor
Dewar, the Connors, are on their
way to Pittsburgh. This has nothing to do
with the Carlo trade, but it does because
it's salary, but it's not technically a three-way trade.
There is a low round pick
coming back. We still don't quite know what it is
yet as of my last checking of Twitter.
Can I just say that's crazy?
So let me just
outline that. And then,
and we'll break that down and we'll start there, and then
Fraser Minton, first round pick,
and we believe Brandon Carter, well, we know
brandon carlo and we believe brandon carlo somewhat retained not just this year but for
two more years he makes 4.1 million dollars which is already a great deal next year and the year
after it ain't bad six foot five 216 what do you call that beef his goal horn should just be
i don't think although he doesn't score very much now so so before we get to what brandon
carlo does for the leafs let's talk about kyle dubas what do we know about kyle dubas um he's
from sous-saint-marie ontario yeah uh grew up a sense fan yeah uh got got his uh start as assistant
gm uh the toronto maple leaf what is he passionate about oh the sue greyhounds thick frame glasses
analytics chinese proverbs and kyle dubas
A friend of mine always told him
Make him wait
Loves
His guys
Absolutely adores them
Why?
Tucks them in at night
Checks on them
Makes sure they're eating right
He loves his guys
Can you get louder
So we can hear the feedback
From the other room
Loves
his guys how many times has he acquired connor timmons now well so i was gonna ask you that
connor at least twice at least twice connor timmons obviously was a kyle dubas signing
the contract he is on was one that dubas signed with him that's right he traded for him and then
he signed him and he got got him from uh arizona right yes in exchange for a big guy whose name i
forget that's okay now why are connor timmons and connor doer who was a brad for living trade
last year at the trade deadline why are they kyle dubas guys well connor timmons was a sue greyhound
um he was i want to say a former second round pick he was very highly touted played team canada
the world juniors i think dealt with injuries um and that's why his career kind of uh didn't
take off the way it should have he i thought he was going to be loaded into a cannon at the
beginning of the season and fired into the sun or wherever he landed in front of it uh he ended up
playing pretty well um but as the season went on it's like okay better than expected doesn't
necessarily mean good they go out and get carlo you don't need connor timmons anymore even if
there's an injury there's philippe myers who i think they like better anyway i actually like
philippe myers's play a lot more than i like timmons or benoit well and not to say that i'm
not denigrating them i'm just saying i think philippe myers brings something that the other
guys don't chris tanem's been out so who's playing higher in the lineup it's it's been myers you know
whenever riley has needed a partner was it timmons nope not often it was myers right so myers is
probably gonna be i guess there's seventh d sixth whatever and uh well because there's benoit too
yeah right um and timmons makes 1.1 million dollars which is too much million dollars
right um for this team so they load him into a cannon uh they get brandon carlo um as for connor
doer man that guy provides the exact brand of busy nothing that dubious loves producer hayden's
a minnesota wild fan he's sitting out there and i want it to be studied how connor doer scored
double digit goals with the minnesota wild last year in less than a full season i need that
studied how the hell did it happen he played 48 games as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs in
the regular season and another bunch in the playoffs and he scored one goal in a 2-1 loss
in game seven to Boston he probably had the Leafs best chance to ice the thing on a breakaway
there's always a breakaway in game seven in Boston that the Leafs don't score on
and connor uh doer was that uh in game seven uh he's like he's like alex kerfoot without the
talent like uh i the scoring talent he's a good defensive player yeah yeah and well and when he
was acquired for a fourth round pick last year the thought was this guy can help out the leafs
penalty kill which needed help yeah and then they go out and they get scott lawton who led
all philadelphia flyers forwards in penalty kill time don't give up too much on scotty line oh i
won't but um and you have david kampf and mitch marner and cali yarn croaks back and and and all
of a sudden you and steven lorenz who's gonna be in the lineup and connor doer isn't you don't need
connor doer doer makes over a mil not much more but he does timmons makes over a mil not much more
but he does you had to get rid of both of them the fact the leafs have reportedly gotten an asset
from the penguins for the services of those two is shocking to me i thought the leafs would have
had to pay interesting yeah well jesse you know with with timmons and doer and pittsburgh we're
just going to keep it to that for now okay then we'll get to focus on pittsburgh okay what's the
for for for a brad rating what do you give brad on that for sending them out yes i applaud
Brad, Brad, Brad for living for being able to dump those assets because I truly didn't think that the Leafs had enough capital to get a deal like Carlo done.
I thought he was going to sit on his hands a little, not do something like this where you get a swing and it takes a little finagling to make the salary work.
And that's what was required here.
And kudos to him for getting back a late round pick for somebody to take your assets for you.
Yes.
Like do this help the Leafs for no good reason.
Finding the GM that valued Timmons and Dewar enough to pay you for them when you needed the help?
Do you think Shani was like, hey, you know who might like these guys?
My old buddy.
The guy who tried to take my throne.
Yeah.
Tell me Toby Niemel is in the deal.
Is this not a really wonderful piece of GMing to get somebody to do you a favor when you needed the help?
Like they could have raked him over the coals for this.
I will say, like, Dewar's 25, Timmons is 26.
Like, I don't know.
Listen, I'm trying to throw Dubas a ball.
Oh, yeah.
No, no.
Dubas did what he did because he likes the guy.
And it's good depth for a team that's not going to probably be in the playoffs next year.
Do I think Dubas should have just taken them for future considerations in a better negotiation?
Yes.
I don't think you should be paying for assets when the other guy needs you to do this so that he can get Brandon Carlo.
Yeah.
I don't know who else around the league was willing to take Timmons or Dewar,
but I think Dubas probably paid whatever that late-round draft pick is.
That's too much.
Now, the Leafs' blue line shakes out as follows.
Morgan Rielly, 6'1", 225 pounds.
Jake McCabe, 6'1", 212 pounds.
That's kind of surprising.
Chris Tanev, 6'3", 199 pounds.
OEL, 6'2", 192 pounds.
Brandon Carlos, 6'5", 220 pounds.
Beef!
Philip Myers, 6'5", 219 pounds.
Beef!
And Simo Benoit, 6'4", 211 pounds.
Do you think the Leafs have a brand?
Yeah, they're guys, but their guys are cows.
Now, the trade between Toronto and Boston,
and again, we still don't know what sort of salary
would have been retained, if any, with Brandon Carlos.
things are still being hammered out on that front um the trade is a first round pick 2026
don't know if there's any protections but i assume not because the leafs already dealt their 2027
first and we'll get to that that's interesting um uh 2026 first and fraser mitten and this is
brandon carlo coming back and we talked about this a little bit in some of the videos that we put out
today the leafs penalty kill has been mid this year i believe it's 14th best which is extremely
limit in the playoffs it's the special team battles that win you those games it's killed
them nearly every year let's talk just about brandon carlo on shorthanded he's by the way
right shot d yeah so scott lotten i talked about leading the flyers forwards brandon carlo i knew
he killed penalties for the bruins oh my god um he's played 177 minutes and 47 seconds of
shorthanded time for the Bruins this year. That leads the team. Nikita Zdorov is second with 144
minutes and 31 seconds. So Brandon Carlo has played more than half an hour more shorthanded
time than any other Bruin. He plays nearly three minutes a night shorthanded for Boston. Two
minutes and 49 seconds a game Zdorov is second at 215 which is our oh sorry Hampus Lindholm
um leads the Bruins three minutes 19 seconds but he's only played in 17 games um Brandon Carlo has
had to carry a lot of that load and Zdorov is just way behind um the Leafs I I think the happiest
member of the Leafs organization today is Lane Lambert um because he got two absolute horses
uh for their PK like I wonder like do we see a boost in play from David Kampf from you know he
doesn't have to be the the guy on the PK anymore because every now and then you see him make a play
and you're like was that David that David Kampf doesn't know how to do that yeah and then he does
um and brandon carlo is yanni hockinpah except plays which i think is pretty cool it's always
good when you get yanni hockinpah but he plays right um and like i what did i what did i belly
ache about all week leading up to the trade deadline before the yanni gordon oliver bjorkstrain
moves i didn't want to give up any of the prospects or the firsts for rentals that scares
me uh because that's a potential down the line issue there's no guarantee you're gonna win this
season um Lawton is locked up to another year Carlo to another two that's crazy that's a lot
of teams spent a lot of assets this deadline on guys who they may never see again like after the
next 20 30 games that's not the case for the Leafs right they their entire decor is locked up for at
least the next two years that's insane Tanev OEL Riley McCabe just signed his extension Carlo
Carlo Benoit's got another year Benoit two years he's got another two Philippe Myers signed an
extension people forget marshall refi even who hasn't played a game for them this season he's
been called up a lot though he's been called up a lot i want to say he signed like a three-year
extension yeah the like this summer all right what else you want to focus on like you know how
many teams are going to be like well we got to do something with our decor the leafs literally
don't need to touch it oh what should i do in net sign the guys that they have nope that stallers
has a year left and and no extension kicks in just work on stallers this extension literally
just extend stallers and we'll all have a merry christmas yeah that's it so then you spend uh
all your time just worrying about your forwards what is the most plentiful position who are the
guys who are always available forwards forwards oh that was centers do you know any oh the one
whose contract is expiring
on the Leafs
and he wants to stay here.
John's a...
Okay, so extend him
and then figure out the wings.
Now, let's get back here though
because I just want
to stay on track here.
I'm going for a little walk.
What do you think about
the cost of...
And then I'm going to have to...
We're going to go to a quick
check-in with Jesse
with the chat.
I want to know
what you think about
Fraser Minton
and that first pick going.
Steve.
Guys, everybody.
What?
When this happened before
and Minton was in the deal,
Tell everybody how sad you were.
I like Fraser Minton, so I didn't like that he was traded at all.
I liked even less that he was traded to the Boston Bruins.
But?
Kyle Cushman, I thought, put it perfectly.
Fraser Minton probably tops out as a third or fourth liner.
So congratulations to him for his 2031 Norris.
No, not Norris.
Not going to win the Norris.
Selke, he might win the Norris.
Who knows?
Maybe he, you know.
Heart.
He plays under Lindholm and McAvoy and discovers his love of defense.
Yes.
No, I think he's a guaranteed Hart Trophy winner now.
What I was surprised by is like 2031.
You think it's going to take that long?
No, but he's going to be a good player for this.
This is what prospects are for for good teams.
You need help now.
You turn Minton into a Brandon Carlo because you want to be good now.
We can't unfortunately wait till he's useful for this team, which might be not even next season year after, you know, where he has that permanent spot in the lineup.
and we don't have that time the Leafs need to win a couple rounds now and that's how we're
going to get this help by sending out these prospects and kudos to the Leafs organization
for drafting someone that people want yes because this could have been a dud and you could have had
to do something else do you remember how they got the pick explain um they traded down in the draft
uh in 2022 so that they could unload peter morazic uh to the chicago blackhawks um the
pick that the leafs dropped down to was number 38 they picked fraser mitten and they helped turn
fraser mitten into brandon carlo who is going to be a defenseman for them for the next two and a
half years at least uh fraser bad fraser mitten by the way is topping out from from all prognostications
the best they hope for is a third line center the the issue is that what would hold him back i think
is the lack of offensive upside they believe that they see but like and that's not a bad thing no
it's not a bad charlie quill's an awfully good 3c so it's got lot the leafs just paid a first
round pick for a third yeah today yeah um you know charlie coil casey mental stat like you know
these guys are coveted these guys are needed um but like just to give you an idea he had four
points two of them goals in 15 games with the leaps this season he had a cup of coffee at the
beginning of last season four games uh no goals but even in the ahl um 13 points in 26 games like
that's half a point a game clip like the offense isn't crazily there he's a hard-working kid
really positive attitude the team obviously really likes him uh not enough to keep him i guess but
they really really liked him you got to give something to get something right jesse yes
Absolutely.
Six foot two, 195.
That number, 195, is going to go up.
And one day he'll return to Toronto.
And probably his first game in Toronto, he'll score against the Leafs.
Now, Jesse.
Yes.
I just want to tease for everybody.
If you're wondering when your team's coming up, don't worry.
We got lots to talk about.
We will talk about Scott Lawton.
But I want to check in with our crew.
Then we're going to throw it a break and come right back.
So, Jesse, what are people saying in the chat?
What super chats?
SLS had a super chat that said
What's a bigger shock
Marshan going to the Panthers
Or John Cena turning heel
For a hockey fan
Marshan going to the Panthers
Wow
If I had to choose
The ultimate
Someone was very upset
Behind the scenes about that
If I had to choose
Like hey
Marshan's getting traded
It's the worst possible scenario
steve which team is it first word out of my mouth would have been florida right right first word and
it is the worst case scenario it's worst case ontario and i hate it a lot next one jess this
is from tyler thank you for the super chat tyler he says hey guys what do you think is the bigger
kick in the teeth for boston trading marchand to florida or trading carlo to toronto which one
marchand florida million percent he's their captain yeah he's their captain won a stanley
cup with them he's been how long has brad marshand been a friggin bruin brad mar shit didn't he
didn't he just play a thousand games he's played a thousand and ninety games as a member of the
boston bruins 157 stanley cup playoff games one two three four five six seven eight double digit
game playoff runs with the boston bruins which is crazy because the most amount of leaf games i've
ever covered uh since i started my youtube channel 18 seasons ago was 11 two quick ones michael the
three quick ones michael thank you for gifting five sdpn memberships we appreciate you speedy
says that they traded costco gravy for their belly yeah yeah and the third one i oh here
Shay said they really want to see a
trade tree.
Oh, remember
I said I was going to do one? Give me a Peter Morazic trade tree.
Like right now?
No, no, please don't. Please God, no.
Well, I mean, you could.
I mean, you signed Peter Morazic. Let's not.
Let's just not. Let's not do that.
Okay, don't tempt me.
Don't tempt me. All right.
We do. Sorry, we got some
breaking information on the Brandon Carlo deal.
What is it?
From Josh Clohey.
Brad for living is doing a press conference right now
the Bruins are retaining 15%
on Carlos
so that's 15% for the rest of this season
15% for each of the
next two 450 500 grand
well 10%
would be 410,000
yeah yeah something like that
Adam and I didn't excel
so so hey listen that's great news
that's great news now we are going to
come back and break down the Scott Lawton trade
as well later on in the show Alan Walsh is
going to join us his client jj paturka made some big big news and then wasn't traded so we're just
going to straight up ask him about it we'll be right back sometimes life throws your curveballs
and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should
check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo
building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my
windows oh and they're way around on that it's like well it's a patio window you can do that
yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't want to i don't have the stuff
because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing chemicals you gotta have the
right chemicals see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's
the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs
lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces
of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead
and get ahead of your to-do list 15 off your first task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app
using the promo code dangle taskers across canada book up fast especially for same day tasks
get 15 off your first task right now with the promo code dangle at taskrabbit.ca or the task
rabbit app you should download that task rabbit.ca code dangle so it is official six hundred thousand
dollars uh will be taken off of carlo's cap um uh every single year that he's in toronto so that's
3.5 million total against the cap the next two years that is a quarter of the money that the
saudis paid to steve whoa true helicopters cost way more than that jesse come on now my bad i
You couldn't spend that money in three lifetimes, Jesse.
Come on.
So, obviously, the Leafs also made a really interesting deal today
with the Philadelphia Flyers to fill out their third line.
And this is a big deal because if you watched the game in Vegas,
like I did overnight on an SDPN Live,
you realize that it was just the third line was not working.
Not working anymore.
I had to make that deal.
Scott Lawton goes to Toronto.
nikita grabenkin and a 2027 first go to philadelphia that could slide to 2028 yeah it could
slide to 2028 and what's interesting is scott lawton is 50 retained meaning that this year and
next year so you know next year really is where it matters 1.5 million dollars for the leafs third
line center that's crazy which is pretty close to what an elc will cost you anyway it's 900 grand
less than david camp um so let's talk about scott lawton and how that changes the complexity of the
lineup or complexion of the complexion so uh hey max domey can do some stuff right yeah sure he's
pretty offensively capable character right uh he's he's uh like kind of like he likes to hit
and fight and stuff right okay how's his d how's the defense he's one of the most shocking defensive
players i've ever seen yep and you can't you simply can't go into the playoffs with him as
the center he's not a center in the nhl yep not on a good team now that you you go back to chicago
and have the season that you had in chicago um like there there have been times this season
where i'm just watching him futz around the ice like actually futz around like he won a contest
and i'm going this guy had 13 points in 19 games in a stanley cup playoff run with the dallas stars
like two years ago what am i missing what's going on is there an injury there i don't know
now he moves back to the wing whether it's the left or the right i don't know and that is the
best news for everyone involved scott lawton can bang in a few goals can he bang in a lot
but he can't he scored against the leafs this season with his face and he can he can set up
a few plays he bangs and crashes the the most important thing adam he uh where does he go
the net nah because what do you always say well i always say go to the net no i thought you always
said go to center ice yeah i always thought you said go to the perimeter here i got a i would
you know what don't worry there's plenty of those guys who you should pass why don't you guys pass
you guys are also selfish no what they should do is go to the net and he does uh he we're going
from a third line center who is a non-option for like a defensive zone start um to uh a guy who
the flyers and john tortorella dependent on as as their most reliable penalty killing forward
um that's a huge deal for the leafs um going forward into the off season like i wonder what
it means for some someone like a domi someone like a camp um but right now heading into the
playoffs it just makes you uh i i think it really makes brad uh brad uh craig thank you craig
job yeah so much easier because he doesn't have to look down his bench and go uh where should i go
matt no uh austin john david like you can't you have there's too much work to be done with that
damn line now you go out and get scott lawton now we're cooking so here's how i see it shaking out
because i think a lot of people have domey on the left lawton in the middle robertson on the right
close i have yarn croak on the left lot in the middle robertson on the right and domi drops down
to the fourth line for the time being lat and it's it's just funny how things work like out
of necessity uh click like by the way click subscribe tell all your friends uh out of
necessity he was the first line right wing he did a good job yep um out of necessity it might be the
best role for him on the fourth line for him and for the team wow there's no salary cap in the
playoffs yep put it put all 3.75 million dollars on the fourth line i don't care okay all right
now scott lawton uh and and brandon carlo together i think if you had told leaf fans going into today
that that's what they were going to walk away with,
I think people would have been pretty satisfied.
I think they wouldn't have been as shocked about Scott Lawton
as they might be, as I was, for sure, about Brandon Carlo.
But I think it's also worth mentioning
that the Leafs did give up some assets.
They gave up first, and we keep saying it,
and I think Tampa Bay general manager,
whose name is Casey...
Julian Breezewa.
Julian Breezewa said,
I'd rather have a roster full of great players
than a bunch of draft picks.
And I get that.
and here's the thing you can find great draft picks elsewhere i think there's i mean leaf fans
are we're a unique fan base in in the whole uh trauma thing we don't want to feel stupid like
we're the only team doing something but this year was like a wild departure from that where we're
like it's one o'clock the leafs still haven't done anything and you're like brad i only have
so many more of those left in me brad what the hell what are you doing anything anything okay
tampa threw two first rounders out the door everyone is worth a first or a second this year
and it's like all right if you're the only team and you're paying the toronto tax and uh you're
gonna look like stooges if you go out there and actually spend a first round pick i don't love it
it was getting to the point where the leafs were gonna be the only team to not
spend a first round pick they threw them at the window tampa doesn't have any florida doesn't
have any vegas doesn't have any friggin colorado doesn't have any like none of the good teams have
any i don't think dallas has any anymore get rid of them hey can i ask you guys a question what yes
who was can you name the last leaf selected in the first round with a pick that originated as a
leafs pick the leafs have made picks in the first round but they've always been someone else's first
round pick who was the last leaf selected with a native leaf's first pick that is still a leaf
no not necessarily doesn't have to be oh the last time the leaf selected in the first round
with their pick with their own pick that's what you're asking okay uh i'm gonna guess
uh 19 no simothy lilligren i'm gonna guess 18 timothy lilligren in 2017 2017 oh wow yeah
Crazy, huh?
Now, they've had first-round picks and that sort of thing.
They've reacquired picks.
Absolutely.
And Timothy was a 17th overall pick, if I believe, if I'm correct on that.
So, yeah.
But that's the thing about this Leafs era.
They have been one of the most successful regular season teams in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs, which is over 100 years now.
And because of that, this Matthews era where they've had great regular seasons, they haven't needed that first-round pick because all picks are made the same.
Those first round picks that the Leafs have are in the 20s.
They're in the late 20s because they're so good.
So who needs to draft your own draft pick?
And something we're going to talk to Alan about a little bit coming up is we've seen
a lot of teams take that road.
And I think it's because part of it is the salary cap is going up so much over the next
few years.
You're going to be able to plug a lot of holes just by buying, which is not something we've
seen for the last half decade or more.
Now, the Leafs did inquire about Ryan O'Reilly.
He was not keen on a reunion.
The Leafs did get down the road with Braden Shen with the St. Louis Blues.
Braden Shen didn't want to waive his no-trade clause mid-season.
So fair enough, that's his contractual right.
It is kind of crazy that we are here and that Brad Treliving,
who is known, known for being a very quiet deadline guy,
he believes in building in the summer, has done this.
How do you, and I'm asking you in the chat as well,
because I know there was a lot of anxious Leaf fans going into this.
I saw you all on Twitter, I know.
Tell me, how do you feel about it now?
How do you feel about Brad Treliving's performance?
Let's give it a schoolyard grade.
Is it A, B, C, D, E, or not E, F?
We're skipping.
A, B, C, D, E, F.
Yeah, why do we do that?
I don't know why we do that.
F for fail.
That's why.
Yeah, but you get all the way to D and then you skip E?
Yeah.
Poor E.
I know, I know.
Couldn't D be, or E be?
Just give me an answer.
No.
um listen uh it's it's not over till it's over we got to within two hours we got really really
close i was getting more and more upset the the one thing that made me feel a bit better
someone said b for brad yeah hell yeah the one thing that made me feel better was um
everyone was getting creative and i knew um there was someone out there we weren't thinking about
right so a lot and we were all thinking about and then that trade happened and i liked it
we we did a video on that um brandon carlo shocked me shocked me i had no idea that was in the cards
that would have felt like a better than best case scenario for me heading into today i never would
have predicted the Leafs come out with two players of that quality nope nope nope I was talking about
like oh you know Connor Murphy'd be nice yeah Brandon Carlo what the what yeah no I'll take
that the way I looked at it or I'm looking at it now that we know everything that went down is
yesterday the Leafs were a worse team than they are today yeah in the 24 hours that transpired
over the last 24 hours the leafs are a better hockey team and i think that's kind of all you're
asking for out of your general managers make your team better for this playoff push and i think
bradshaw living did it i think the leafs didn't they didn't take anything off of their roster that
would have impacted their playoff hopes so i don't think connor timmons or doer were that guy and
they added two pieces that make them better today so i think that's all you can ask for out of your
gm is creative gming like that so a for brad you're living okay i'm gonna give him an a as well
i think it was spectacular the fact that you got you got retention on retention on both deals and
remember guys is the cap goes up to 95 or is it 95.5 in the memo it could go as high as 97 after
adjustments are made you're talking about brandon carlo at three or four percent of your total cap
getting you're talking about scott lawton at one or two percent of your total cap that's getting
pretty spectacular value a division rival to retain what is it like 600 grand each year for
two full years after this and that uses a retention slot oh that too that right there I mean I wouldn't
expect the Bruins to be using it very much but right that's crazy it's crazy it's pretty cool
uh now I want to move on to the team that really had the best day the team that had the best day
is the team that gets the best player and the team that got the best player Toronto Maple Leafs
It's got a lot.
It's got a lot.
Or the Dallas Stars and Miko Rantanen.
Now, there are rumors floating out there,
and I don't know specifically what it is,
but there are rumors that the Maple Leafs did have a massive deal
on the table for Miko Rantanen and that it was turned down.
And I don't know exactly what the details of that were.
But for whatever reason, it was not Miko that said no.
It was the Canes.
You can be pretty confident it was the two first-round picks
the Leafs sent out the door.
and here's here's what uh the Dallas Stars paid oh I lost it oh there it is Logan Stankoven
a first round pick in 2026 a first round pick in 2028 a third round pick in 2026 and a third
round pick in 2027 so the Leafs offered something better I'm struggling as someone who knows the
team pretty gosh darn well i'm struggling to think about what the leafs could have possibly
offered they could have offered an equivalent i don't think it'd be better well like do the
leafs so there's danford there's cowan there's minton are any of those guys on par with logan
stankovan no but maybe an aggregate yeah combined i think you get to stay a stankovan type level of
prospect honestly like it could have been both first that they traded and all three of those
guys sure something like that yeah yeah it would have been crazy right like but then you get miko
ranting that's the thing like all of those prospects are fun not as a rental i hope yeah
no no the word was that that he would have signed yeah that he could have that would have been
crazy crazy it's because the thing that was coming out and i thought it was really weird was the nice
for ranting i never thought that was going to be a possibility well i i don't think true living
is trading nice that and that's why the leafs apparently said no last night exactly yeah so
but i'll be honest with you if ranting is available i would take moose but and i love
matthew nice but i would dallas didn't have to give up that type of player in that deal i don't
think i think nice is ahead of stankoven right now in his development curve but i think yeah
you're right and there's a way like if the prospects that you outlined steve is i think a
more suitable deal for the least that is equivalent to what dallas got ranting for in the stankoven
deal yep stankoven has 29 points nines nize has 41 yeah i mean and 24 goals to stankoven he's also
your first line winger yeah that's that's a huge difference it's apples and oranges with yeah
nize and stankoven that would have been a bigger ass from the leaf so i never thought true living
was going to do that but if they were able to piece together those prospects and do ranting
in that way it's different but i guess carolina didn't want that you know what's crazy there's
always going to be a draft and another trade deadline too so you never know what can happen
but they do walk away with danford and cowan uh still on the team which is great uh and i love
that let's talk about let's talk about uh miko ranting and going to dallas and signing and here's
what's interesting. Greg Wyshynski reported that the Carolina Hurricanes deal was absolutely bigger
than what Dallas ended up offering. The Carolina Hurricanes offered north of, from what we
understand, $13 million a year. What Mikko Rantanen ended up signing was an eight-year contract
with the Dallas Stars worth $96 million. So he doesn't quite get to the $100 million.
I want to know now what the Colorado Avalanche were offering him because I almost feel like,
hey man maybe you should have just signed it but the fact that the canes uh got him for 13 games
and i think six points and jack roslovich had to give up his number but he got a free rolex out of
it um man that's pretty cool i guess jack can have his number back i am i'm wondering for dallas like
let's go through just their top nine can we do that yeah it's stupid it is one of the most
unbelievable top nines you've seen in the entire cap era i'm gonna run you through okay you ready
so it's looking like robertson hints miko ranton marchment dushane grandlin who was also a trade
deadline ish pickup right ben wyatt johnson who has like 50 points already he's insane and evgeny
dadnoff and then oscar back sam steel and another stud that they're relying on to be great maverick
bork uh mr my parents french kiss on tv oh yeah that's right his parents are the tongue kissers
oh that's maverick glamour oh the other maverick other maverick all right so so listen it's easy
to get your mavericks mixed up yeah my bad uh so so listen miko ranton to the dallas stars is so
amazing too because i was listening to cj show yesterday and cj had this crazy stat during the
regular season miko renton's points per game is 1.08 so you expect him to score just about every
game in the playoffs it's 1.25 from uh uh sports net stats miko random highest points per game for
a player dealt on nhl trade deadline day since 1994 at 1.13 points per game that's 1.13 that's
this season was that 1994 player uh they didn't say they should have the graphic and yes you're
right they really should have i mean it's 1994 so like it was probably like everyone everyone yeah
that was a crazy season let's but let's talk about dallas uh that's a pretty scary lineup
huh favorites in the west gotta be i think so and i would have given it to colorado maybe
if they if dallas doesn't do the ranting and day deal colorado gets brock nelson which we're
going to talk about i i think maybe you're like man that center devs pretty strong i don't know
How you go against Dallas.
I lean Vegas still because I think the six defensemen that they have
are just so much better than what anybody else in the West can put out there
and how big they are and the Stanley Cup experience.
And I think Vegas has got some juice this year, but Dallas is second to me.
So if the playoffs start today, which they don't,
but if the playoffs start today, Vegas plays Colorado.
Evil.
Wow.
Evil.
evil dude last year vegas got dallas that was evil too they went up 2-0 and then blew it you
blew it um edmonton la again dallas minnesota and um a like ritualistic uh sacrificial murder
that would be the winnipeg jets versus the calgary flames the jets have 90 points the flames of 68
but colorado overtakes minnesota all of a sudden the first round is dallas minnesota
like earlier that was colorado you mean sorry dallas colorado earlier today i said uh there's
no way anyone catches the jets what if dallas catches them now they have they're six points
behind they have a game in hand yeah yeah yeah i think winnipeg's locking up that president's
trophy i mean probably they're they're friggin seven two and one in their last 10 so was dallas
but they've won four straight yeah um like dallas could win out and they still might not
win enough to get that spot um i was so sure for so much of the season
that edmonton was just gonna run over everybody
uh unless they show us something over the next few weeks it might be a short spring well we're
saving them yeah on dallas here with with their with their lineup like that tops top six or uh
top nine really is it's unbelievable it's a great four group i do wonder how they're going to be
without high skin in who i assume is going to come back like game one of the playoffs yep um
If their defense going into that game one is Labushkin, CeCe, Dumba on the right side.
Not pretty.
Not something you want to be doing.
I don't care how good your forward group is.
That right side is not great.
But once you get Heiskanen back, everything looks kind of better.
But I guess that's the one question.
You question if the defense is good enough with those guys in the lineup.
And then you question, which Ottinger are you going to get?
Because you know you're going to get scoring.
What goaltender are you going to get in terms of Ottinger?
Are you going to get the one from the 23 playoffs or are you going to get the 24 playoffs?
And then is your defense good enough?
So there are some questions there, but every team's got questions and Dallas looks really good.
Wyatt Johnson also re-signed five years, 8.5 million AAV.
He'll be 30, guys.
What are you smiling at?
What?
Jake Frodinger?
Oh, stop.
Come on, Jesse.
Do we need a new graphic?
No, I actually like Jake Frodinger.
Wyatt Johnson is a pretty spectacular hockey player.
One of those young guys that the Dallas Stars were able to hit on late in the first round in 2021.
He was the 23rd overall pick.
He's got 59 points in 62 games.
And you have to remember, this guy's playing third-line center.
Third-line center at the moment in Dallas.
I mean, what a great value deal for them.
And I call it value because, again, with the cap going up as much as it is, it's going to be such spectacular value all the way through it.
he leads all 2021 draft players in goals and points it's amazing like for years we've been
saying why does everyone look at the florida panthers and go i'll sign with you for five
dollars it's okay i'll play like you know how many interns the panthers have like just dudes
who are volunteering and like just who cares there's no state tax we we don't we don't give
a damn um that's very quickly becoming the dallas stars like ranton at 12 after we were like oh yeah
it's gonna be like 13 13 and a half 14 is nuts it also makes me believe ranton when he says he
was caught off guard by the trade because that's the only way accepting this dollar amount makes
any sense Wyatt Johnston I would love to know who initiated those talks was it him his agent
or the GM uh with how good of a player he is and how much the cap is going up he didn't need to
sign that deal at all at all he's still 21 he didn't need to sign that deal at all he could
have done really well for the next few seasons rode off into the sunset after you know three
four year contract who knows and then made 80 kerbalillion dollars but uh instead he signs
this deal uh every stars fan should go buy his jersey immediately yeah pretty pretty darn cool
uh amazing work by jim nill who i think might win general manager of the day uh and you know
general manager of the year i know they hand out an award but as uh jeff merrick always says it's
It's the Stanley Cup.
That's your GM of the year.
Spectacular day for them.
On the other side.
I'm waiting for this.
A perplexing day from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Obviously, they get a first and a third in 26.
They get a first and a third in 27.
They get Logan Stankoven.
But they have turned Marty Nietzsche's Jack Drury into, I guess,
do you count Taylor Hall as a part of that?
uh uh logan stankoven and four picks so it's context is key um getting two logan stankoven
two firsts and two thirds for what they initially gave to colorado is crazy that is really really
good work by the carolina hurricanes in a vacuum yeah we're not living in a vacuum
we're living in your second in the metro and you had niches you gave him to colorado he's doing
crazy there you got ran and he did nothing and you traded him and what did you get that helps
you immediately you got a guy with nine goals who i think is going to be really really good he's only
22 I think he's going to be really really good for you but okay what about this year you got
two first round picks two thirds when I saw that I was texting people immediately I'm like they're
throwing those out the window right like that and it sounds like they tried to it sounded like there
was a there was a deal we think in an imminent with Pittsburgh and Ricard Raquel so here here's
some Eric Tulsky quotes from Greg Wyshynski VSPN Carolina GM Eric Tulsky said the Hurricanes were
looking at additional moves before the deadline but said the ranting and trade took so long to
close that carolina missed out on players they were targeting and then he said i should clarify
the reason they missed out was because they wouldn't have had the cap flexibility to do
anything until the ranting and trade was finalized which was a lengthy process
this is a completely unacceptable outcome yep it is it and like listen that's damning it's bad
like who knows maybe they have a surprise run this year like i i mean they probably take on
the devils in the first round the devils don't have jack hughes like that's a really unpredictable
first round series and by the way the devils didn't get ryan o'reilly uh no they didn't yeah
and he he stayed put well adam he's got a imaginary no move clause so the worst run team
well sorry the sabers exist just not a smart move um uh in a vacuum that's a crazy amount of assets
to get for what began as jack drury and martin niches but you're yard sailing this year and
that's brutal who knows maybe you use these assets you contend next year you win the whole thing and
then we forget all about it that's pro sports you know uh winning makes memories pretty long and
short um but this year if the hurricanes don't make noise in the playoffs it's gonna be bad
and their standard you know it's usually second round minimum yeah oh man i could only dream i
know i can only minimum so here best i can do is uh like second round once every two decades
like uh this is uh but heavy is the crown and it's not even a crown um they have a high standard
there and uh to me their performance today fell below those standards jesse don't forget they
also sent a second and a fourth with niches and jury that's also part of what they sent out yeah
um if i am eric tulsky uh we all have our regrets in life and sometimes we make mistakes and if i'm
in the shower and it's four or five ten years from now this one haunts me this one i scream in the
shower and i say i should have never traded niches and jury if i could if i look at this carolina
team right now would i rather have stankhoven a couple first and taylor hall or would i rather
have niches signed through next season at 6.5 million dollars and jack jury signed through
next season at 1.725 million dollars an rfa expiry you'd rather have those players plus your second
and your fourth back this was a blunder and we don't want to say it because we like tolski and
he embodies something new in the game and analytics and all that stuff but he made a mistake here
making this ranting and trade here's what i never would have predicted and there are going to be a
lot of people going at him he deserves it but none of those people predicted ranting in with
the hurricanes was going to be a bust you don't make the deal unless you got an extension i that
is his ultimate especially if you're going to give up niches and drury at those numbers
yeah they got the extension that deal was done for 15 hours or whatever but you needed the
however the problem there guys is that colorado i don't get the sense really actually wanted to
trade him but then the deal became so good they were like well what we were stupid not to take
this yeah crazy and did i think chris mcfarland the punked eric tolsky a little it's honestly
it's christmas mcfarland at the deadline he's amazing and oh you can't do that without the
extension because the there's a possibility ended up like this and it did end up like this wait
No, boys, you don't hear that?
What is it?
You don't hear that?
I can't hear it.
What's the sound?
It's the cavalry coming over the hills, boys,
because the Hurricanes actually did make another move.
Oh, what did they do?
That I don't think you saw.
I haven't.
They traded a fifth-round pick next year for Mark Jankowski.
Stanley Cup.
Stanley Cup.
All right.
Boy, listen.
Stankoven's a great player.
he's gonna get better you can do a lot with two firsts next there's always there's always the
draft and next deadline these picks are not made until 2026 yeah but you got miko ranton because
you wanted to win the cup this year so that maybe you should have held him he got six points well
he didn't want to sign with you though okay okay of all the scenario okay you have to choose okay
you have to choose okay okay okay okay you have to choose between pissing into the wind
with miko ranton unsigned yeah as a pure rental and he's not playing well
or you get stankoven two first two thirds what's your choice
right i think i know what my choice is what's your choice
i mean what are we gonna do sit here and cry over spilt milk yeah like the adult decision was made
today um by the way tom dundon apparently was very involved in this process as well so well
that might explain why it got fucked up thankfully if if uh if if if if eric when are owners gonna
let people do their job well that's not how tom dundon runs the team he spent 300 million dollars
to buy how many rings he's got he's got zero rings so far sounds great tom let's keep it that way but
i think i think that at least eric tolski has that it's like well the owner gets to share in the blame
here a little bit too right it's the and you know what for miko ranton and i you know you wonder
about why he wouldn't want to sign someplace you know how the carolina hurricanes operate
they operate i think they would say efficiently they don't spend big sebastian ajo is like their
highest paid guy and he's amazing and i think he'd probably get 15 20 points a year if he's not
playing in rod brindamore's system but it's an effective system i'm not denigrating the system
i think it's a great system i think that um miko ranton and probably looked at that and went i
don't want to play this system i don't want to play this way it probably has nothing to do with
the city nothing to do with the team it's probably just ah this is not the system for me that's the
team that's the team yeah no i think i like you know what i mean like it's it's sort of like you
come in you test the water you go yeah i don't like not for me i don't like the cut of your
jib i i remember the podcast after the initial trade was made and i said it and you looked at
me wide-eyed like steve that's an insane thing to say sebastian ajo is not nate exactly you
were playing with nate and and ranton is a crazy player in his own regard he has a better uh he
scored more playoff points uh i want to say since 2022 than nathan mckinnon that's insane but you're
not playing with nate in carolina you might you might get closer to nate in dallas but you're not
you're still not playing with nate can i chime in with a super chat please do fronk sarah volley
oh yeah what's up is listening hi fronk um fronk sarah volley super chats that the carolina
hurricanes got the stank and the jank today the stank and the just stank and jank connection
oh the new tag team champions that's funny until one of them betrays the other and goes after the
intercontinental title i love that chris jay writes everybody's got to donate a dollar to help pay
a new trade tree tax because everybody wants your trade trees back i'll do a morassic one uh
a by the way uh miko ranton and sweepstakes according to chris johnson the leafs were in
it was the deal surrounding matthew nyes and multiple picks that's what it would have been
Oh, wow.
So, yeah.
So, listen, they went a different way.
And by the way, I think that they don't get Lawton and they don't get Carlo.
So, you know, it's sort of what do you want.
Now, Jesse, do we have any more Super Chats we want to get to before we go to our next?
And we're going to bring on Alan Walsh here in a second.
A couple more.
This is from Kirkland.
Offer Marner 12 million AAV now.
Replace JT on the summer.
I don't think that Marner and his camp or the Leafs in their camp want to talk about that right now.
I think they want to see the Leafs want to see that Marner is going to do it in the playoffs the way they need him to.
And I think Marner wants to say, I can do it in the playoffs and you're going to have to pay me more.
I hope it's a quick negotiation, because if it's a quick negotiation, that means it starts in June.
If that negotiation starts at the end of April, then I think it's a I mean, it might be an even shorter one.
let's both go our separate ways
because I've had enough
that was from Shay but Goofy Goober also had
Marner contract prediction
after Rantanen's deal
does the Rantanen's deal say anything
about the Marner contract I think that's where we got the 12 million
I think the Leafs have to look at it that way
I don't think Marner's camp is going to look at it that way
I think they're going to say yeah that's fair but
and they'll find a but
and that's their job find the but
that's what an agent's job is always find the but
and tap the but
you know uh and i think there there is you know i think there's a lot of wisdom in saying mitch
miko's miko's numbers are pretty similar here in fact they're better here's what it looks like
if marner comes in at exactly what ranted and uh came in at uh i think that's fantastic for both
sides and i think both sides will i believe what the insiders say and i i think this too i think
both sides regret it if they if they move on is so 12 has got to be good for the leafs i think so
right this is a hundred point player rancid and signing for 12 almost who almost who mitch isn't
rancid rancid and has done it mitch hasn't mitch is on pace for 103 and a half points he's been on
pace a lot of times i don't care he's gonna do it here's here's what i'd say to mitch uh good luck
tomorrow he doesn't want to talk about the thing you don't want to talk about the thing good luck
tomorrow there's a game and then after that there's gonna be another game and after that
There's going to be another game when everyone is done and they're ready to
talk,
then talk.
Uh,
listen,
there's a reason I was so surly and crotchety.
Uh,
when Kyle Dubas was like,
I'm pretty sure I'm going to move off of one of the guys in the core.
And then he got fired and Brad true living gave birth to,
I just got here and let Marner go to July 1st and let his full no move
clause kick in.
that was the moment you no longer got to decide or complain about what happens next
so the fact that we're here looks good on the leafs this was i don't know who told you the
outcome was going to be different but oh we'll simply ask him to wave the thing what if he
doesn't uh but he will what if he doesn't yeah yeah you allowed that hey we're gonna go out and
get miko ranting and without an extension yeah well what if he doesn't extend oh you will
oh okay well we're gonna go out and trade him again and we're gonna get a bunch of picks
and then we're gonna trade those picks for other stuff that's gonna help us win the cup okay what
if you can't get those trades done in time i don't worry we will did it happen no other super chats
other super chat

podcast been listening since 17
gave up on the Leafs after
the bubble loss oh my goodness
you gave up on the Leafs but you didn't give up on us
and I appreciate that
Abram says, Canes deadline losers, winners one, Dallas Leafs two.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
I think the Leafs are a winner.
I think Dallas is a winner.
And I think it's time for us, if I got it.
We're going to throw it a quick break here.
It's not going to be longer than 60 seconds, I promise you.
And then Mr. Alan Walsh is going to join us.
We're going to talk about the J.J. Paterka thing.
Because was there a trade in the works?
Or was there not a trade in the works?
And why are teams throwing so many draft picks into the sun?
We'll find out.
And this show is sponsored in part by BetterHelp.
Hey, listen.
Has your team given you some things that you're really frustrated about today
that you wish hadn't happened and you need to talk to somebody about it?
You might want to try BetterHelp.
Maybe.
Sometimes it helps to have a third party look at your life and go,
you know, you could try A, B, and C,
and that might make things a little bit better.
You know, Steven, I don't know if sports are for you.
And they went to school for this.
30,000 trained therapists, a wide range of specialties.
And here's the thing.
You can switch therapists if you're not vibing with the one you have, because chemistry is
important.
That is no cost.

feels like in los angeles mr alan walsh so excited to have you here alan here i am here
How are you guys?
We're good.
We're good.
So listen, we've talked about it on AP a lot, but I think it's worth mentioning.
This is not a fun week for you and your players, as fun as it is for us.
There's a lot that goes into this.
Can we talk a little bit quickly about, as an agent, what are you doing today if one
of your players gets moved?
Yeah, it's actually a day filled with a lot of anxiety and a lot of stress.
I have a lot of clients on Edge wondering what's going on with them.
Players on really good teams, very interested in what their team is doing
to improve gearing up for a playoff spot or a playoff run.
Seeing other teams making deals and calculating how that's going to impact their team.
uh i mean i even had some players on no move clauses call me and say uh you hear anything
about me that's how nervous some of these guys are i'm like you have a full no move clause
if anything is happening you'll be the first to know i promise
alan it was a relatively i think quiet day for you if i'm not mistaken but we do know that jj
peterka's name was out there uh we'd we'd love to know more what the hell happened what happened
answer us
i i you know his his for some reason there are people reporting uh that his name uh has been
out there i i don't know where it's coming from uh i haven't had a conversation uh with uh kevin
adams and in in a while uh you know you probably have more insight into why his name is out there
than that i do well all we know is that he was going to stay in new york state no we don't that's
why you're on oh my goodness what okay so when you look around the league on a day like today
um and you know we we've just been we're all buzzing in here you know a little bit too too
much caffeine that sort of thing are you happy to have a lower key trade deadline
well you know you're talking about too much caffeine i lost count at five cups of coffee
today so far and my day started and my day started for the last two days at 4 a.m oh my god wow
right because of the time difference here on the left coast so um it's the first trade deadline in
recent memory i mean i'm sure it's happened before but it's been many years where i don't
personally have a client who's been traded um at the deadline and i actually have to admit i kind
have enjoyed that um i'm not i'm not in any way complaining people say oh all you ever do is
complain i'm not complaining i'm just stating a fact so it seems very obvious that this was
a seller's market were you surprised by what players were going for this year a lot of first
getting moved a lot of seconds yeah there it goes to show like a couple things number one
the um uh number of teams that are still in uh uh the playoff hunt that the delineation between
buyers and sellers uh there were a lot more uh buyers than sellers so the players that were
available. There was less of a supply. There was a much bigger demand. And there you get the
first and the seconds being thrown around a lot more than you'd expect, a lot more than you'd
expect. And I've talked to a bunch of GMs in the last 48 hours who were suffering from a bit of
sticker shock believing that prices would come down today i mean two or three gms in particular
and and they ultimately traded their players today saying um you know i'm i'm i'm gonna get
this or i'm not gonna get this and uh the prices didn't come down and uh that i found interesting
that there was a break in the market around three hours ago
where the deal started happening
and a lot of the GMs got the prices they were looking for.
Well, Alan, does that speak to the fact
that the cap is going up so much
of some of these teams feel like-
The triple hard cap.
Yeah, the triple, let's get it right.
The triple hard cap is going up significantly.
So a lot of teams feel like,
hey, if I've got good players on the roster already,
I might as well augment them. I might as well build for the future. Cost control has become
more of the thing. And these long-term deals, which used to be a bit of an albatross,
now are looking pretty valuable. Yeah. And there's certainly a release valve
in the triple hard cap, Steve, that is going on right now. I mean, the jump next year,
and more significantly the jump the year after and then knowing where the cap will be somewhere
in the 104 million range uh going to 113 114 million is is certainly uh we're seeing a
marketplace reflecting that reality right now is today any sort of before and after point for your
world where it's like now that the trade deadlines come and gone you now focus towards the offseason
because you don't really care to watch the games you know that doesn't really have an effect on
your day-to-day so do you like focus towards the contracts that are expiring and all that
in a sense i mean i have a several players who were uh uh on the last year of their deal
and those are the guys you look at as possibly uh being guys that that could move and the fact
that they weren't traded uh generally speaks to a team's desire to uh engage in in a discussion
on getting the player extended uh teams don't like losing players for nothing uh so i think
the fact that certain players weren't moved is going to it's a reflection that there's a desire
to get something done. Well, Alan, we we really appreciate you making time for us today. I'm glad
that it was a quiet trade deadline for you. It certainly hasn't been on this end. And I know that
you and I are going to try to get a show done this weekend as sort of a reaction. So we'll get a time
sorted out but it is great to see you and uh and we'll talk in a few days you know it's worth
repeating that the boston bruins are having a day and uh and and i'm i'm seeing uh uh people
tweeting angrily about don sweeney and about how he handled today specifically trading within the
division right i think they're upset that florida got marchand they're upset that toronto got carlo
But I think Don Sweeney might have done the best thing he possibly could,
which is get the most value, right?
So here's the thing.
Marshan's 35 expiring deal.
He might be right back.
He might spend 20 games, 20, 30, 40 games.
50.
No, less than that.
How many playoff games can the Panthers play?
Let's say 25.
16 wins.
How about that?
No.
There you go.
No.
That's going to the Leafs, sir.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He might be right back, and then you get all these assets from a divisional rival,
and you, I don't know, you can look at it as ripping them off or whatever.
You get to have your cake and eat it, too.
What was Brad Marchand doing on the Bruins for the rest of the season?
Right?
it's that's emotional Brandon Carlo I mean are you like oh man we traded with the Leafs but
they're in the division like I just don't think that's how Bruins fans are looking at it trading
your captain the heartbeat of your team CJ said part of your fabric and I was like oh bar it is
um that I can understand why that is emotionally tough Marchand got to be captain of the Bruins
less than two full seasons it's kind of hard to believe considering how long he's been there
But it shows you the kind of leadership they've had.
Now, let's move on to some of the more interesting trade deadline things.
Steve, you mentioned it.
I'm going to jump this ahead of Ottawa.
I had Ottawa next, but I want to talk about Edmonton
because the Edmonton Oilers have needs.
Well, they're only human.
Well, their fans have emotional needs.
But remember that Cal Pickard and Stuart Skinner have been not great.
And, you know, 896, 897 in the save percentage department.
They have been good enough to lead them to the Stanley Cup final
and get within one game of winning the Stanley Cup.
That was last year, though.
What have you done for me lately?
What have you done for me in the playoffs is how I think teams look at it.
And I think that's exactly how Edmonton's looking at it.
They felt like it wasn't a priority.
They felt defense was a priority.
Matias Ekholm is out.
So you take an already depleted defense core because, remember,
they lost Vinny Desjardins.
They lost Philip Broberg.
They traded Cody Ceci.
um so you know they had to replace them with guys like you know picking up travis uh travis
dermot on waivers after bringing him to camp and then losing him so you bring him back then you've
got ty eberson who you got from back from the from the cody cc trade um respectfully to those
guys that you mentioned okay okay okay so like whatever man they send out first round pick
Get Jake Wallman.
And by the way, Detroit, we got to talk about Detroit a little bit later
because Detroit paid San Jose to take Jake Wallman.
But Jake Wallman's had a great season.
Nonsensical.
Absolutely fantastic season.
And it gives the Edmonton Oilers, when Matthias Ekholm gets back,
not a secondary, I would even say, a third guy who can really move the puck
because I think Ekholm can move the puck.
Bouchard is a savant.
He's amazing at moving the puck.
He's unbelievable.
um Jake Wallman is a really great addition but then after Jake Wallman crickets nothing
three's pretty good a lot of teams don't have three I'm just saying I know Brick Kulak
Brick Kulak's a quality player I wasn't just speaking about defense I'm talking about Stan
Bowman moves today oh oh well yeah no they didn't do anything um that is uh like with McDavid in
three fall um they're playing their worst hockey at the worst time
oh boy like it's difficult to underestimate them i don't want to do it last year i held
strong in the oilers i was like they're gonna make the playoffs i think i might have even had
them in the stanley cup final and even after they fired jay woodcraft i was like hold hold the line
and then they go all the way to game seven Stanley Cup final this year I'm looking and I'm like
maybe I should uh sell my stock there in uh the Edmonton Oilers here's here's something that's
good so when I see a defenseman like Jake Wallman 25 points in 50 games scoring at half a point a
game okay he probably heads up their power play though right and I'm sure he played a lot of
power play minutes for san jose he only had eight power play points oh no sorry that's will smith
i uh he only had seven power play points 25 even strength points if wallman can make it so that
the oilers are what the oilers are when they're the their best which is just this team that has
the puck all the time and skates you into the dirt and snipes on you with these skilled plays
that no one else can do if he can help them do that then he's a great acquisition for them like
i i think listen the oilers didn't do much of the things they could have done that's about the best
right like what what move out there would have been better for edmonton i know a lot of people
are going to yell and scream goalie um a lot of guys uh in and around the hockey canada program
are feeling pretty bullish about their goalie opinions right now you see jordan binnington
stats since the four nations no i haven't he's unbeatable well that's great he's absolutely
unbeatable he's like seven two and one 950 confidence is sky high i love it it's unreal
um skinner's confidence is obviously in the toilet he wasn't great all playoff last year
it turned on i mean calvin pickard started games against vancouver oh yeah like you're you're
talking about uh you you're excited for the what is this the three pete the four pete of yeah i
think this is the fourth year in a row we think the oilers and kings are going to meet and the
oilers have won all three yeah and like i see no reason for that to change because the kings have
actually gotten steadily worse in those series if i remember correct um so if you get out of that
series like i mean edmonton has aspirations far beyond uh the first round but i really expected
them to do more yeah I really expected them to do more yeah uh disappointed worth noting that
Kings didn't do a whole heck of a lot either uh they only picked up Andre Kuzmenko from the
Philadelphia Flyers for a third round pick in 2027 so yeah I mean listen they got a little bit
more scoring but it's certainly not what they would have wanted to do there another big trade
that happened obviously was Dylan Cousins for um uh Josh Norris those are the main I know Jacob
Bernard Dockers available for that.
And if you want like an intense, super granular breakdown,
we have a video on it already.
But, you know, what we just saw was Steve Staios said in a press conference,
and I'm getting this from Julian McKenzie's tweet,
that he thinks Dylan Cousins is going to balance out the offense
and the defense a little better than Norris did.
Obviously, Norris is a big, he's best friends with Brady Kachuk.
So that's a heartbreaker.
Kind of a surprise deal.
Something that we didn't see coming.
And when you add the fact that Fabian Zetterlund, who's had a great year...
I absolutely adore that deal for Ottawa.
That has remade their second line.
Completely.
It probably puts them in a much better position for these playoffs.
Pissed off Brady Kachuk is a pretty good and a dangerous one.
Also, like, man, I did not realize Josh Norris was making a hair under eight.
It's a lot of money.
he's making it was like 50 grand less than i think i think jack hughes that deal is crazy by the way
for jack hughes but um yeah no it was untenable situation and you traded i think two gms with two
players with alarmingly similar trajectories hey we have guys who peaked like three years ago
we signed them to over seven million dollars and they haven't been the same since let's just swap
them see what happens somehow buffalo ended up with the more expensive and older one i think
because they're buffalo but they think maybe he's got the higher ceiling yeah after three shoulder
surgeries i think that's fair um but he spends a lot of time not playing hockey which is actually
bad for your uh being good at hockey aspirations right so i i like dylan cousins as a sen
um i really really love fabian zetterlin as a sen they had a good day yeah yeah it's it's very
very interesting now um uh with uh oh sorry julian just tweeted this oh go uh the fabian
zetterlin deal came together with 27 seconds left before the 3 p.m deadline according to steve
deos wow holy wow and that deals a banger for ottawa yep absolute banger for ottawa uh indiana
jones by the skin of their teeth that's crazy that's a crazy deal uh now earlier in the day
uh brock nelson was traded to the colorado avalanche this was a crazy one uh and the
reason i want to bring it up well obviously i want to bring it up because it's trade deadline
and that's what we do is it really shows how much people are loading up in the west except for vegas
but they loaded up last year and everybody's still there and they're still vegas yes um hannifin
hurdle yeah they had their big deadline was last year it's easy to look at them and be like oh they
didn't really do anything yeah they did um they were able to to to get brock nelson uh and and
flip uh oliver shillington callum ritchie a first round pick and a third round pick with some
asterisks on them and we don't have to get into that too too much what does brock nelson bring
to the colorado avalanche now gentlemen uh better option than casey middle stat um which is what was
the what went wrong with casey middle stat in colorado he stopped scoring that's a problem
that's a problem like he he we we sort of went through the stats i always struggle with spelling
his name middle stats not middle stat um he's scoring at like half a point a game right now but
the reason colorado wanted him in the first place is he was shooting the lights out with the sabers
for like a moment in time um he 15 goals 44 assists for a 59 point season followed that up
with 14 goals 33 assists for a 47 point uh campaign in 62 games then he went to colorado
who's still pretty good 10 points in 18 games and it's just disappeared and he makes too much
money for that uh 5.75 uh i believe you get brock nelson um who's just got close to a hundred games
stanley cup playoff experience lots of deep runs with the islanders um just got back from the four
nation face off um and you get charlie coyle in the middle stat deal so here's how i look at that
Is Middlestad a better player than Charlie Coyle?
Probably, but it also, like, it's a loaded question
because I think they're two completely different players.
Is Brock Nelson a better option than Casey Middlestad?
Yes.
Yeah, okay, great.
So you throw him into where Middlestad was.
Now you need a third-line center.
Who's a better third-line-type center?
Is it Casey Middlestad or Charlie Coyle?
My argument would be Charlie Coyle.
Charlie Coyle.
Charlie Coyle, who hasn't had a great season in Boston.
Not a lot of people have.
He had 60 points last year.
That guy's a nightmare.
As a Leaf fan, I hate him.
So get him out of my division.
Sounds good.
I think Colorado got way better up the middle.
Colorado also, earlier on this year, have picked up other things too.
Ryan Lindgren is now a Colorado Avalanche.
Jimmy Vesey is a Colorado Avalanche.
Jack Drury.
Marty Nietzsche.
um you so parsing and let's not forget about they got rid of them uh yeah they did to the range uh
but these are these trades that they've made and let's not forget that guys before christmas
they overhauled their goaltending this is a team that's gone through a total transformation jesse
i'm kind of curious about where you put the colorado avalanche now because on one hand
they're undoubtedly stronger the other hand though is team chemistry matters yeah yeah you don't you
never we've never seen a team with this much change over mid-season they were the first team
to ever swap their goalie tandem that early in a season and you see all the additions now uh in the
forward group and it's ambitious of mcfarland to do this to go that hard uh with a change on
in the team but you applaud them for being this ambitious for saying this is our season no matter
what i'm going to try and build the team that i think is going to win so i don't know how it's
all going to mesh together we saw miko ranson not work in carolina so you don't know how these these
players are going to mesh uh in colorado but i can only be encouraged by what they're doing and
that going for it is the right thing chemistry isn't something that just develops when you play
together for a while right it's also it's just style stylistic fit um niches is a godlike fit
in colorado like they're they're uh it's not talked about enough but their pro scouting staff
deserves an insane amount of credit because i looked at that deal and i'm like okay i understand
why both sides did it but there's a clear winner and it's not colorado right and then oh that was
a good first game oh that was a good oh i think he's just an unbelievable fit with nathan mckinnon
man colorado man never a dull moment what a what a what a breakneck season to be an avalanche fan
no wonder drew so weird so jesse let's do a uh let's do a couple last minute super chats i'm
gonna wrap this stream up uh franck saravali wrote back in can't wait to see marshan lick
someone and then chucky and bennett come and jump the dude that got licked i like that okay
Why'd you let him lick you?
Wow, you punched your mic.
I didn't mean to.
Austin said, stop teasing us.
Let's have some lineup projections.
Minton for Norris, hashtag.
Do you have any lineup leaf predictions?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Very interesting because I'm just realizing the flaw in my lineup
because I had a third line that was,
I think it was Robertson-Lawton-Domi,
which would bump McMahon up to the second line.
Where's Holmberg go?
Has he not earned a full-time spot on this team?
I think he has.
Where?
Good question.
Like, who does he kick out of the lineup?
Well, it sounds like he's going to have to want it more than someone else.
We got...
Time to figure it out.
About 20 games to...
Listen.
It's professional sports, and we're in the winning business.
Break a pool cue over your knee, chuck it into the middle of the floor.
We're going to have tryouts.
Lawton and Carlo, by the way,
it looks like they're going to be available for the Leafs tomorrow.
Hey!
That's exciting.
I'm going to see them tomorrow while we're at the Alibi Roadhouse
in London, Ontario.
Here's how tired I am.
You're like, oh, they're going to be available.
I'm like, they're flipping them?
Jesse, any other chats?
Now we can end with Hotard12 who says,
did you see all the action Armstrong blessed us with?
Oh, wait, he slept right on through the deadline.
Team's doing all the right things, and he's doing nothing.
Let's go Blues.
There you go.
Yeah, but that's what we encouraged them to do.
Nothing?
Nothing.
I think what he did was screw with everyone
and make them think you were going to do something.
Well, thank you for joining us.
By the way, there will be more content coming out.
We're going to make Steve do a video just on Brandon Carlo for your channel.
And thank you for joining us throughout the trade deadline today.
Obviously, we have a ton of trade videos you can check out.
We get super detailed, too.
See you tomorrow night.
