Sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where
TaskRabbit comes in and I think you should check this out because here's the deal.
One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor
to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows.
And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window, you can do that yourself.
And I'm like, well, hang on a second.
What if I don't want to?
I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals.
see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task
rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance
mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have
been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your
to-do list 15 off your first task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app using the promo code
Dangle. Taskers across Canada book up fast, especially for same-day tasks. Get $15 off your
first task right now with the promo code Dangle at TaskRabbit.ca or the TaskRabbit app. You should
download that, TaskRabbit.ca, code Dangle. Bobby Brink, congratulations. You are Minnesota Wild
and David Urachek, noted Alan Walsh client, going to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange. There's a
lot going on with this trade let's start with the minnesota wild i call him big balls bill for a
reason he's he's laying it on the line uh bobby brink 24 years old and i think probably not as
well known around the nhl as he is in philadelphia but with a name like bobby brink that screamed
philly bobby brink uh he's he's had a pretty good year 13 goals 13 assists and 50 uh 55 games not
bad so some depth wing do americans know what body break is no they have no idea they should
they should google body break no no it's only a canadian thing oh wow yeah yeah i didn't know
that so to all canadians love that joke uh yeah the canadians you're like that bobby brink does
sound like body break it is the thing you have to do that every time you mention his name bobby
brink from minnetonka uh minnesota so he's going home awesome he's five foot eight 169 pounds baby
he's a wee man but you got to play with a little bit of hate if you're if you're that size and it
hasn't held him back 26 points in 55 games yeah so then you know so i want to talk first about
where the heck he fits in minnesota's lineup because i don't know that it's immediately
uh easy to pick that out like i'm looking at the uh like we'll get to your check in a second here
but i'm looking at the minnesota depth pieces he could be you know he slots in maybe right wing
because felino's not been healthy recently on the third line you put him next to you're off who i
thought once they acquire trocheck or whatever center they're gonna get because i think it's
pretty clear they're gonna get another center you're off's been 38 in the face off dot this
year to me it made sense to move him to the right if you get a big name center it might cost you
you're off and i've been staying with that but we were just talking before the video producer hayden
say in the russian line of tren and you're off and uh well it says brink now he's not russian
but tarasenko yeah uh have been very consistent for them i guess it gives them a little bit of
versatility it gives them a little bit more depth uh allows them to move tarasenko up yeah like very
very often when you see teams with a lot of high-end talent you're like great great great
great great great good good great guy guy guy right and i just don't really see that on minnesota
anymore um like hinastrosa is a really useful little player stern is a really useful little
player mccarran i mean you just paid the sun and the moon for him god they're deep they're deep at
every position they are except well center is depth is in the eye of the beholder they have a
lot of guys but do they have enough i skill there i i fantasize jesse about a line of trennan
Hartman and Brink but that relies on Bill Guerin getting another center but that would be a mean
mean line and I think Jess when you consider what Minnesota Colorado and Dallas all have to do which
is play each other right this is this is Bill Guerin ratcheting it up again for the Avs and
the Stars I don't know really what the Stars can get done at this deadline they're I mean they
great trade for Myers yesterday Jesse but they're kind of a perfect lineup you're gonna have to if
your minnesota basically be such a pain in the ass that you get through a series right oh totally and
like with the bobby brink acquisition i like it because it's not just a rental you know you're
moving off your check who's going to be an rfa at the end of the season for somebody that's going
to be more useful to your lineup who's also an rfa at the end of this season so the thing that
miss minnesota lacks is their depth scoring i think that that's we can all point to hey they
need more depth scoring you're banking on Bobby Brink becoming that and locking him up to something
reasonable here this offseason and then him growing into position where you don't look so
weak in your forward group outside of Kaprizov in terms of putting the puck in the back of the net
to give you an idea of how likely this matchup is Minnesota has 82 points Dallas is 85 Colorado's
all the way at 91 like it seems like the best Minnesota can do with the rest of their season
is achieve home ice in the first round right right and just do and just play as as well as
possible be as connected as possible heading into the playoffs it seems like the best now what you
can hope for in that ridiculous division when quentin hughes was at his best in vancouver um
the the rumors were that he had a great relationship with adam foot in a great relationship
with head coach rick tocket david you're a check uh highly drafted pick he's now been traded twice
six overall columbus minnesota and now philadelphia um and he's gonna go and play under rick talkett
jess do you think uh do you think that'll be good for his development i i also wonder if this
eurocheck thing means that rasmus ristelainen thing might be close you know they're gonna have
to get younger and he's a big guy and i don't know if it's reclamation project territory but it might
be opportunity territory i always kind of wonder about briere and what he's doing with the flyers
Like, I feel like they're doing a lot of good stuff, but they've been so middling for a while now that, okay, you're going to bring in Juracek.
This better be another hit for you.
This better be a hit for you because you haven't had many lately.
You know, like you've struggled to really get that high-end talent and those players who are going to usher you into out of the middle pack of the East or the out of the playoffs middle part of the East.
That's the part I'm referring to, not the actual middle where you're actually in the wildcard spots, just out of the playoffs there.
So he's banking on this is going to be a better project than Bobby Brink.
Okay.
That's what I think Breer's thinking with this deal.
And it opens up a spot, as you see there, for Nikita Grabenkin to play a little bit more regularly.
Always going to cheer for him.
Hayden said before this means that we won't get a Barky, Bonk, and Brink line, which is a bummer.
So crap.
i wanted the brink bonk bark line that sucks um hey speaking of sucks okay yeah i want you to go
through this because steve's gonna trade tria jesse right now uh with david you're a check and
this is not gonna make big balls bill look all that great no if you're and this was a big balls
bill trade yes brink bonk bark um last uh last year um but has not gone well at all and you could
look at this trade for brink as him cutting his losses that's very glass half full let me make
it glass half empty so the way minnesota got david urochek the trade was david urochek in a 2025
fifth to the minnesota wild to the columbus blue jackets damon hunt a 2025 first that was
peter andreanov who is a goaltender a third in 2026 a fourth round pick i believe that was also
in 2026 and a second in 2027 that is an enormous price for a guy you just traded for a roughly
half a point a game 24 year old but you know jesse steve when i look at the lineup where's
david your check gonna play well adam glad you asked he played 11 minutes and 43 seconds
per game because you've got hughes favor broding spurgeon and and middleton and bogosian i totally
agree that he's no longer a fit for this lineup but wowsers i i guess i guess this is just uh
an example that you don't have a crystal ball you know you don't know that the vancouver canucks
are going to completely suck and you don't know that they're going to sell and you don't know
that if if quinn hughes becomes available you're going to be the team that's going to be able to
sweep in and do it right check didn't make any more sense in minnesota like he wasn't no he wasn't
going to crack that line if he wasn't going to be an important piece for their playoff run which is
the only thing that matters right now and the only thing that matters to bill garrett so i might as
well use this asset to go get something that's going to be helpful and then in philly this
better be the precursor to a rasmus ristolainen move like you better have that in the hopper
to go make some room in the lineup for your check to actually develop because he's going to be
useful to them and he wasn't in minnesota uh hughes and favor are the future of the of the
uh minnesota wild blue line and by the way jack hughes 26 brock faber 23 isn't it quinn hughes
i'm sorry quinn hughes sorry that's next trade yeah yeah exactly isn't life unfair i hate it
also i i want to mention this one guys because it is worth mentioning but was not worth its um
its original um uh the thing for its own video jeff petrie is a minnesota wild player
uh and that's right and he was traded last night and i thought hey we didn't do a video for him
but let's talk a little bit about that jeff petrie trade it's a seventh round pick going to the
florida panthers the pick becomes a 2026 fifth round pick um holy hot damn if minnesota wins
two playoff rounds and petrie plays in 50 or more of those wild playoff games during the first two
rounds you know what's funny man i was about to talk about his bomb of the uh bomb of a shot
he has no goals in 58 games but he he did have a bomb of a shot he well maybe he still does he
just doesn't use it uh 38 you know what why the hell not that's that's a no price i heard uh just
through being a minnesota fan that the deal for petrie was bill zito doing right by petrie to get
him more like another shot at a cup before his career is over which is why that's probably why
he signed in florida which is yeah which is why it's a seventh round pick with conditions it's
just like let's get this guy a chance at the playoffs no and that's that's good business
that's good business for all involved yep well your friends i mean what in minnesota give up
yeah who cares nothing it's good business if you're jeff petrie and bill zito and bill garren
yeah no but i think there's value in doing that for you know we we keep going dude why does
everyone sign in florida yeah and obviously there's the sunshine the tax and well and the
winning the gm will do this kind of yes no no i'm just making fun but he is paying it forward
like this will come back to me in the relationship with the agent wade are not or whoever like other
player who wants to sign in florida they know they do right by players too long didn't read
they didn't need to do this he's played 1039 games in the nhl had a very impressive career
almost 400 points uh but only 48 games in the playoffs including a 20 game run with the
canadians when they went to the finals you know just one more shot and they have put him in
Two, if Jeff Petrie plays in any of these games, two or three, well, whatever series it ends up being, probably Dallas, Minnesota in the first round, and then probably Colorado and one of those two in the second round.
That will be a red-hot division to watch.
So best of luck to Brink and Petrie in Minnesota.
And SDPN's trade deadline coverage continues.
Every time there's a trade, we do a video, yes, including Jeff Petrie.
And we've got our live stream today at 5 o'clock.
And when you record your new episode of Agent Provocateur, I imagine there will be some
Urochek content.
That's right.
Urochek and David Perron last night.
So it's a big Allen day.
The Vancouver Canucks sell-off continues.
And Connor Garland, congratulations.
You are a Columbus Blue Jacket after signing an extension with the Vancouver Canucks that
never actually kicked in.
Has not kicked in.
I had to.
So I have like everyone's cap hit written down.
I put 4.95 now.
Then six times six.
Wow.
so the deal is let me just get a big old big old uh extension garland from the canucks for a 2028
second round pick and a 2026 third round pick let's talk a little bit about the extension that
will kick in next year by the way guys it involves a no movement clause in the first three years of
a six-year deal he makes six million total there are some bonuses built into that too so columbus's
management is actually willing to play to pay big bonuses as a part of the structure yeah they're
spending money they always have so you know what's funny uh like so many of these deals are
happening and we're we we came in this morning we're shooting three videos back to back to back
uh just to talk about the moves that happen overnight and i got my notes in front of me
i'm like all right connor garland ready to talk about connor garland all the connor garland facts
you know what i think he's a great fit for the islanders uh connor garland calling all day long
yesterday he was supposed to be an islander so when i saw the trade i'm like yeah okay yeah okay
there's there's the deal it finally kicked columbus i was totally caught off guard by that
and then i was caught off guard again this morning because i forgot yeah it's it's it's crazy now
jess they're they're friggin for real they are absolutely for real yeah jackets absolutely and
and jess i want to ask you very quickly about um forget we're going to hold on connor garland's
fit with columbus i want to quickly ask you about the vancouver canucks because they have been in
full sell-off mode it seems like that's going to continue and a 2028 second and a 2026 third
compared to some of the trades we have seen Michael McCarron for a second round pick
seems slightly low given the type of player that Garland is is it the contract length and the
amount of money that's owed him yeah and it's also the player he has been recently he has not been
the Connor Garland that earned himself that contract if you look at stats this season
it's 26 points in 50 games seven goals you're not paying all of this money to him in the future and
this price here for a seven goal connor garland you're banking on him returning to form of his
previous seasons right and that's what they're doing but the canucks like they're doing the
smart thing here in that unload everything you can if people want connor garland sell it off
because we're as we get further and further away from it we're really we're realizing that their
playoff run where the Edmonton Oilers destroyed their franchise uh by defeating them in the second
kind of literally I don't even know if kind of needs to be added there literally just literally
they did that to Calgary like a couple years earlier yeah they've destroyed two franchises now
that is the outlier in this second kind of era of the Canucks if I'm going from the the 2010s kind of
era of the Canucks this this new regime that was the outlier and that team was never as good as
they looked during that season and what we've seen last year and this year has kind of been
the true Canucks and there's a reason that there's five guys or six guys left from that
playoff series left on the Canucks one guy left on defense from that playoff series by the way
Isn't that crazy?
You know, Conor Garland was such a valuable piece to the bottom six.
Like, I thought he had five points in 13 games in the playoffs
the last time he was in it when they went to the second round.
Obviously, they played Nashville, and then they played Edmonton.
And that's when I started streaming games, right?
Conor Garland and Dakota Joshua in that line, so good, so valuable.
But as Jesse mentioned, neither player has really been the same.
Since Conor had a good year last year, 50 points.
But there are injury concerns.
And he's a smaller guy, 5'10".
I'm like an inch taller than him.
Right.
But NHL-wise, smaller guy,
and now going to be entering his 30s
and signed until he's 36.
And that seems to make sense.
That's where he should be.
Let's talk, gentlemen, about the Columbus Blue Jackets
and why they might want to make a deal like this.
Well, I think he matches the style of the time,
even though he's 30.
You don't need to be the biggest.
You don't have to be.
You just got to be willing to be a complete jerk.
And he's willing to be a complete jerk.
And you're not going to be able to see that in any counting stats.
Like I tried to bring that up.
He's at like two shots a game.
He's at there's no jerks per 60.
Yeah.
Less than a hit per game.
Like his stats are not going to jump off the page like Kiefer Sherwood.
But even though he's having a down year, he's still at over half a point a game.
And this is the number that stood out to me.
Almost 19 minutes a night.
on a team that objectively stinks yeah no wonder his numbers are down on a on a even on bad team
someone has to score not true well not even sort of a little bit true so uh he's gonna go to
columbus who i thought was gonna sell off guys like charlie coyle for example um and hopefully
and here's the hope with columbus you don't want to screw up the chemistry because you're like the
hottest team in the nhl right now i think he's gonna fit right in and here's something that a
little guy who's a who's a jerk needs an enabler he has the biggest greatest meanest heavyweight
in the nhl right now in matthew olivier right i'm connor garland i'm gonna cause a bunch of crap
and you're just gonna have to put up with it or my friend matthew is gonna put you through the
boards jesse uh puckpedia has connor garland slotted in beside fantilli and marchenko on the
top line how do you like that fit marchenko's had a great year 52 points i think fantilli would
probably like to have more than the 42 he's put up do you think garland helps those two and do
they help him one of the things that's gone wrong in vancouver is the amount of first line minutes
that garland has had like he's been playing uh nearly 19 minutes per game this season and that's
kind of been where his drop-off has been when they've been like hey you're now our first line
you're now in our top top line this is your new task so i wonder if he fits more in the middle
six for columbus interesting and that like a better team doesn't need to rely on connor connor
garland this much so um i don't know if that top line is going to be his future maybe johnson up
there yeah even if he is there for a while he's probably not racking up the same minutes he was
in vancouver if i'm looking to rejuvenate connor garland here i'm easing him into this thing and
reducing the burden on his shoulders because i don't think he's that type of player to wear that
he's a good depth piece that's gonna help your middle six 100 i like that you brought up ken
johnson adam because i wonder if he ends the day on the blue jackets there's such a weird buyer or
seller they're clearly a buyer yeah right they're clearly a buyer and that's a young player who's
fallen out of favor there typically that would be slam dunk to sell but what's his value well i don't
know if he has much right now you might as well keep the guy and see if you can now he can play
both sides so can garland that's going to be important when mason marchman comes back remember
They traded for Mason Marchment.
So the dickhead per 60 on the Columbus Blue Jackets is high.
Dude, Coyle's a dickhead.
Yeah, absolutely.
Boone Jenner's a dickhead.
Dan Heinen could be that, too.
He's kind of a dickhead.
He was a Bruin, yeah.
And again, they have the biggest enabler in the NHL
and also arguably the best defenseman this season.
Yeah, it's a very interesting mix in Columbus.
I'm very curious because obviously you've got Fantilli up top,
but then you've got two vets in Monaghan and Coyle.
I know that they've been red hot since Bones took over,
but it's still a tough challenge to make the playoffs here.
They're creeping in.
They are.
They're creeping.
So do you, if you're Columbus,
do you throw your fans a bone and really go for it?
Or is this a year where you accumulate some assets
and then trade for guys on the longer term?
Marchman and Garland specifically, Jess.
Yeah, like the Marchman thing, like he's out right now.
Yes.
um so like that that top line when when he's there with fantilli and marchenko like they found
something i think rick bonus is really like then they found something special there and then you
add conor garland to the mix and the scoring is kind of where they've been lacking they can get
good goaltending they can play defense and if they can just generate a couple more goals from
different line combinations from forwards from zach baranski's doing fine like they'll they'll
be good and they'll be able to do something hopefully in the playoffs in terms of uh just
the way the wild card shakes out guys i gotta show you this because columbus obviously 72 points in
61 games the bruins 73 points in 61 games so this ratchets up the heat for not just the bruins but
the islanders who have made a couple of deals and we're trying to get garland uh the blue jackets
are only three points behind them with two games in hand and the pittsburgh penguins who the
athletics joshio he called the most most interesting team heading into the deadline
not sure about that quite yet but they haven't really made any moves so i think there's going
to be the islanders and penguins have just been challenged hey guys are we are we doing this are
we not doing this the eastern conference is such an interesting arms race because looking at those
standings right there if you squirrelly scroll just a teeny bit columbus and ottawa within the
last 24 hours have been buyers yeah neither of them are in a spot yeah man it's interesting man
it's intriguing capitals are obviously selling off big time and they're tied with ottawa although
ottawa has a couple games in hand and you're right islanders better do something if dude like
for islanders i was shocked to see uh montreal in a wild card spot boston these are all teams
that have had a good season but the eastern conference is so ridiculously cracked yeah that
you you might have to do something here can i throw a name at you guys throw a name now this
guy's got no trade protection no no move protection but he's a very good winger who's 29
basically same age as connor garland just signed an extension this summer i definitely thought you
were gonna throw a leaf who do you got and he's a vancouver canuck who do you got might the islanders
take a swing at if they miss on garland brock besser oh now his name is out gas and they do
have the pieces they do they there's a a lot of youngish teams that are kind of in the mix
here we've already talked about buffalo today we've already talked about anaheim today we've
already talked about the islanders today if you're good and young i mean geez it's great to be both
those things but it's so rare to be both those things another lower buy option if you could get
him to wave is Jake DeBrusque too also on the Canucks yeah and Evander Kane's available too
also on the Canucks so we'll see what happens today I'm sure we're gonna be doing videos for
all those guys uh before we wrap I do want to uh highlight one thing because we've we've talked
about the the Canucks um assets and what what they've been able to stockpile here uh look at
their draft picks here on puckpedia for the next three years they have two firsts this year two
seconds then they have all their picks except for a seventh oh no next year they have two seconds
and two fourths 2028 they have two seconds and two fourths plus they got prospects like ogren
plus booyam plus a young guy like rossi i mean they're in a better spot now than they were a
few months ago that's for sure you just have to put up with the uncomfortable aspect of you know
being dfl in the nhl the canucks know what they are which is a great position to be in if you're
going to be good or you're going to be bad at least you know what you are and they know they're
terrible and hopefully they get a really high draft pick this year being 32nd in the league
yeah yeah it's it's a fascinating time for vancouver also fascinating for columbus and
happy for their fans that's an exciting playoff race and listen nobody's fan base deserves a run
perhaps more than maybe a little more than the sabers uh sabers deserve it more that is but
columbus is in there right yeah their teams that are just tortured fans sdpn's trade deadline
coverage continues every time there's a trade we're gonna have a reaction video and don't forget
tonight five o'clock sdpn live on the sdpn youtube channel where else breaking the whole day down
sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where
task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things
one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean
all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and their way around on that is like well it's
a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't want
i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing
chemicals you gotta have the right chemicals see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and
i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for
furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's
the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves

Logan Stanley, Luke Shen, and Sam Carrick are all Buffalo Sabres in two separate trades,
but we're going to combine them into one video. And we're going to start with the bigger trade
because I think there's a lot more to this Logan Stanley, Luke Shen trade than meets the eye.
And Jets fans, I know we're getting a little restive online last night because they're like,
yeah you know chevy's gonna not make any moves i think he made a good one so let's start with this
sabers acquire logan stanley and luke shen who is by the way 50 retained from the jets for jacob
bryson isaac rosen a 2027 second round pick and a conditional fourth now the condition on the fourth
is the better of buffalo or edmonton's 2026 fourth round pick fourth round yeah so you know
because they're somewhat even in the standings actually it's kind of funny that might be
Edmonton's big great move great move okay so for Winnipeg so let's talk about uh let's talk about
the Winnipeg return first okay I don't hate it for Buffalo either but that's a really good return so
Isaac Rosen's been mentioned in everything guys from like potential Robert Thomas rumors to Colton
Pareko um so yeah the Blues kind of wanted him uh Jacob Bryson what do we know about these two
players bryson and rosen so with isaac rosen i mean the the good news with the buffalo sabers
is they have so many prospects that they're just simply not all going to make it right um or there
just simply won't be room even if they did all make it there won't be room the oh they're all
going to make it in the league like isaac rosen's going to make it in the league um is he gonna is
there going to be room on the sabers i don't know like they were talking about murka uh potentially
it sounded like he was going to be in either the thomas trade or the pareko trade or both
that'll be interesting seeing how it potentially affects that relationship but they didn't trade
right um isaac rosen uh in the nhl this season 16 games played three goals four assists seven
points in the ahl he's dominant in 37 games 25 goals add to that 18 assists and 43 points well
over um a point per game 14th overall pick from 2021 this guy's gonna bolster winnipeg instantly
instantly and this is a team that's like let's get jonathan taves who hasn't played
in like three years or even trained with an nhl team in three years and they're uh immediately
adding a young player into a slot that probably should have been made for a young player the
entire time yeah and he's a center and that's that's key right it's it's very big uh he is
a pending rfa but he hasn't exactly done enough in his eight career points i think he'll be they'll
be okay yeah like i i think they'll be able to get him at a at a reasonable number bryson what
do you know so i had to double check everything when i was um when i was looking up bryson which
is why it took longer to start this video um this season 35 games two goals three assists five
points he's five foot nine and doesn't do an abundance of anything like in terms of counting
stats he has 12 shots total 12 shots total those are peterson level stats nine hits total 20 blocks
total in 35 games he averages or averaged on the buffalo sabers 10 minutes and two seconds a game
which is nothing so i don't really know what he turns into for the winnipeg jets if he's good he's
good he's 28 like this isn't a prospect um i assume he's gonna get a lot more playing time
on winnipeg who just traded an entire deep well you said you said uh before you said that hey
um uh you know he doesn't do a lot in terms of counting stats and i'm like he must be big nope
he's five nine he's five nine his his uh possession numbers have to be good uh because otherwise
oh boy i'm not sure yeah the contract spot i think a lot of people looked at that and were
like oh we must be getting some sort of draft pick that didn't work out or something somebody
young it's like no this is a depth player it's a depth player and that's fine don't even bother
focusing on that yeah it's rosen and the two picks you're getting a very high end prospect
that is the that is the key of this trade maybe maybe it turns into a stature situation where
it's like oh this guy's useless and then he plays on a team that's not very good and oh okay he's
fine and that's how he works and then he becomes useless again yeah well yeah but not until he
signs a new deal that's right which is all that matters for him jesse um the buffalo savers have
acquired roughly 13 feet of defenseman uh luke shen is six foot two logan stanley is six foot
seven they are big boys they are not fast buffalo's got speed on the back end though
they've got puck handling on the back end in the playoffs you need veterans and you need size and
i think they got them and guys that have played deep into the playoffs won cups what do you think
about logan stanley and luke shen on this buffalo sabers roster it's a massive literally payment
for your sixth and seventh defenseman really like luke shen shouldn't be in that lineup every single
day like i wouldn't i wouldn't pencil pencil him in there there's your seventh d so you are giving
up a lot but this is the weak spot of the buffalo sabers and there's a reason kakalainen was pushing
for pareko so hard is because it really solidify their place in the playoff picture if they could
really get Pareko there and then and get stronger on the back end so Stanley does that it's just I
think he overpaid for the pure rental of Stanley who's going to be UFA at the end of the season
but this is what they need it's just a little too much I still think I was on to something the other
day when we were talking about it I don't know if Kesselring ends today as a saber well it would be
kind of great if he did because that's a pretty nasty defense group yeah look at that so you have
samuelson dolling byron power stanley kesselring and you can move those guys around that is a
formidable dance or a defense crew and listen we kept talking about well does bo byron get moved or
does michael kesselring get moved sometimes it's like it's like a scratch that's healing like don't
pick at it that you got it it's good it's gonna handle itself the team i keep going back to is
the 2011 canucks who had to use 13 defensemen on route to the stanley what i'm saying right yeah
that's so that's crazy and sorry go ahead no like the the physicality is what they don't have back
there like I'm not knocking Byram or Darlene or power but a guy whose main game is being big
and and being a defenseman in Logan Stanley that's what they need that's what they need range they
got what they need it's just a little expensive you know we when whenever we talk about big
defensemen we're like oh they're big and they're punishing that's not necessarily everyone's game
but the range matters and now like power's huge too and stanley and shen there is not going to be
a ton of room uh back there and also we still have to every time he gets brought up mentioned
the funniest stat logan stanley has been in the league for years and years career high of one goal
heading into this season he has nine that's why he has nine he broke out he's having like in what
what a ridiculously massive way yeah um it's very funny and when i talk about sixth and seventh
defenseman uh connor timmons is also on this lineup yeah he's been out with a broken leg
i want to say since december ish you need those so eventually you like to play hockey eventually
if he comes back this season which i assume he will uh they have a lot of guys they do oh yeah
and and that's the great thing shannon shannon stanley are not necessarily like big puck movers
although Stanley's had some scoring this year.
They're not bad.
I'm just saying they're not like...
They already have.
They're not Owen Power, Bo Byram, and Rasmus Dahlien.
What I like about this Stanley thing, guys,
is Logan Stanley is currently averaging
about 17 minutes a night in Winnipeg,
which is probably more than they expected him to play.
It's nice to know that he can in the playoffs
in case you need him,
but if you can get him back down to 14 or 15 minutes a night,
that's a pretty powerful guy at 6'7 back there
to be coming on the ice fresh now there was another trade and i think we got to get to that
one too sam karek who is got to be at this point in the hockey hall of guys man what a career so
i i quizzed adam with this i jesse i don't think you were in the room so i'm gonna ask you
sam karek was drafted in 2010 okay 16 years ago that's a long time how many nhl games has he
played 16 like 450 450 400 it's even less than that it's 380 oh my goodness and i'm not saying
that to chirp them i that's the reason why i have so much time for sam carrick it's dark days can i
just announce the trade first let me go go go the buffalo sabers acquired sam carrick from the
rangers for a 2026 third and a 2026 sixth round pick go ahead sam carrick being worth two picks
in the big 2026 is so wild played 80 games last year played 80 games last year he he like it's
dark days for the leafs right now he was drafted in 2010 that's dark dark and it took him forever
to make his nhl debut he only played like nine games or whatever it is um with the leafs he played
ahl games as recently as the 22 23 season and that dude has pretty much literally punched and
hit his way into the nhl in his 30s um he has put up some points along the way too not a ton
he's made himself useful like good for him man good for him like every time his name comes up
i'm like i can't believe you're still here good for you dude that's it's unreal now like he made
this is a a rangers team that has announced already this morning basically through the
insiders that if the trochek offers don't get better they're not going to trade them
um and and i think it's crazy i mean the trochek offer must be have to be insane because if sam
carrick uh with 300 career games is going to get you a third and a sixth this year
that's a pretty damn good return for the rangers so what do you think about new york's uh work here
It's a ridiculous haul for Sam Kerrigan.
I think that's kind of what we're outlining here.
This player has been playing on the fourth line for the Rangers this season.
And to get a third and a sixth for your fourth line center is really good business by business by Drury, which isn't something that's said very often.
So, like, I applaud him for this.
It's a good trade.
This is selling somebody to who's not just a normal trade deadline sell.
This is a guy with another year under his to go.
till he becomes a UFA and you're selling him early.
And maybe that's why you're also able to get this package for him.
That's a hundred percent.
Why it's,
it's at a huge premium right now.
Like there's like what,
what could he get as a UFA with the cap going the way it is?
League men.
League men.
Yeah.
He's going to be 35 at the time.
He's a UFA next time.
I Jesse for a player with experience,
experience who's like a guaranteed nhl player i think i think if i'm sam carrick's agent i'm
going to market thinking i can get him at least one and a half in 2027 in 2027 35 in the big
2027 isn't league min gonna be like 1.1 then i think he still gets his raise on his current
it's like 800k no but it's going up with the cba oh it is going up yeah then it's two
i don't know i guess you're higher on on sam carrick than i am no i'm i'm higher on uh he's
not a maybe sure like he's a known commodity right yeah but i'd like death for the sabers
good for them yeah yeah yeah it's gonna be uh by the way justin danforth is out at least a month
oh well he's been out for a while excuse me not at least a month he's been out a while so
that kind of fills that spot for them um i'm you know listen haven't had the chance to say this
the entire time that we've worked together on this podcast the entire time i have not said
these words i'm really excited for the buffalo sabers playoff run yeah we have never in the
history of the steve dangle podcast seen the buffalo sabers play a playoff game that's nuts
not once and they're playing they're making it oh they're making i was in my early 20s they might
win the atlantic yeah oh yeah absolutely the lightning might have something to say about it
But, man, it's not crazy.
Sam Carrick's stat, just for all you Buffalo Sabres fans out there,
led the Rangers in fights this season when he was on the team.
I think he had seven fights this year.
So maybe, you know, bring some toughness to Buffalo,
punch us some faces.
You need a little face punching.
Him plus Stanley plus Shen.
Like, dude, they got a lot bigger in, like, the matter of, like, what, an hour?
Yeah.
So congratulations not only to Sam, to Logan, to Luke Shen,
but to the city of Buffalo who deserves this.
The fans are thrilled, as they should be.
And hey, they might not be done.
You never know.
Congratulations, Dwayne.
Yeah.
It's been a long run for you guys.
Shout out, Dwayne.
Shout out to Dwayne.
And remember, SDPN's trade deadline continues.
We're going to have videos for every single trade that comes out
and live stream at 5 o'clock tonight on the SDPN YouTube channel.
john carlson congratulations you have joined the nhl's most exciting team that's right they're the
anaheim ducks baby let's go no no no not congratulations to him congratulations
congratulations to you yeah when does the victory lap start oh it's it's not only has it started
like january it's been going i think you know what he maybe even earlier because yeah i forget
what i said about the atlanta division but he was damn well right about the ducks let's talk about
john carlson a caps legend now with the ducks and what's crazy about this is john carlson um uh was
asleep when this trade occurred uh elliot friedman said that earlier in the week the caps verbally
agreed to the nick dow deal with vegas uh late the night before the trade call was delayed until the
next day but the news got out beforehand so the caps were upset about that they didn't want carlson
to find out that way so they decided on the opposite approach and they called him uh friday
overnight literally to wake him up and say uh you're traded and it is kind of unbelievable guys
after 17 years john carlson has been traded i was going to say 1143 regular season games with
the washington capitals john carlson has played and another 137 in the stanley cup playoffs like
you know sometimes uh you don't realize how big of a shadow um a superstar can can cast like like
alexander ovechkin that's mr capital yeah right or he would be yeah if it weren't for alex ovechkin
like what a golden age uh of the washington capitals and you know the the one thing that i
said in my video yesterday that that i now know is you know potentially wrong is like next season
you're gonna want to give ovi something right you're gonna want to squeeze something maybe
one last playoff run out of the last year of alexander ovechkin if that's what next year
ends up being because i don't even know if he's under contract i don't think he read the carlson
detail yeah i'm gonna i'm gonna get to it as soon as he gets to it yeah yeah sorry yeah it's okay
i'll get to that yeah we'll come to you next jesse but um they are not the washington alexander
ovechkins right they just have to do good business and this is a pretty ridiculous return well and
and so jesse the the return is first round pick it this year okay and a third round pick next year
now there's a condition on that first round pick should anaheim qualify for the 2026 playoffs which
it looks like they will anaheim will transfer its 2026 first round pick to washington if however
anaheim falls out of the running and does not qualify anaheim has the option to retain its
2026 first round pick and transfer it to 2027 uh to washington instead and i think that's important
just because you know that the top of that division is a little bit weak uh if they do fall
out they're not going to get into the wild card spot right so it it you know it does sort of still
protect them yeah this is a bet on we are playing we're playing in a spot where i don't think not a
lot of people expected us to be but this is what we've been going for the last couple years is to
enter this tier of playoff team and now that the pacific we know confirmed is very weak it might
be the worst division in hockey i don't think anybody's gonna disagree with that that there's
a shot for the ducks to go on a deep run just because that's the area they could get through
if you go in the 2-3 matchup you could have a really easy case to make you can have a really
easy shot at making the conference finals for the ducks so you might as well load up here dude
lucas dostal in net and then you have a decor the daily face-off uh lineup hasn't even updated yet
you have jackson lacombe jacob truba olin zellweger radko gudis add to that john carlson
and then you have a couple decisions to make right you have ian moore and pavel mintukov
mintukov's already rumored to have asked for a trade right but that top five yeah i mean
whoever like let's say you move both those guys out um there's a sixth defenseman out there
you'll find it you can find them yeah you'll get there hey you want some own benoit back
maybe it's a uh it's an exciting time to be a ducks fan he joins uh leo carlson uh and their
names are spelled differently so you won't have a an l or a j in front of them there's one one's
got two s's i don't i don't know if people appreciate john carlson as much as they should
they don't like he he should have his number retired in washington one day yeah franchise
leader defenseman for points minutes games played assists he's he's up there in all the franchise
stats and for them he's been like their number one defenseman this whole time and including this
season into his later years he's still eating up the most minutes on the team and that's with like
a guy like jacob jacob chickering who's also playing with yeah i was shocked to to see uh
where is he 55 games 10 goals 36 assists 46 points and that's like in comparison to his career like
that's on par or down like he almost won the norris trophy in the 1920 season i want to say
when he finished second in norris trophy voting john carlson is a number one defenseman and he's
very good and to add him to this without taking anything off of your roster is incredible for
anaheim like off the top i said it was a an incredible return ah i'm not actually sure it is
like i mean he's got like 50 points like i for a defenseman that good yeah like typically you
would be expecting more i guess i guess the reason it's only the first and the third is
pure rental exactly that's the thing he's a ufa at the end of the season so there's no guarantee
that he comes back so when you're trading him if you're uh pat verbeek you're saying i'm only
getting him for two months so how can i give up more than that so that's kind of the negotiation
and he's a right shot guy too for a first and a third that's not bad for a defense but that's
almost what the least played for paid for brandon carlo i oh thanks man oh man okay all right this
is the first video we did today and time we we brought that trade up i wonder if he ends up back
in washington next i have yeah yeah i have a question all right now you mentioned that loaded
Ducks defense I'm curious about who gets the power play time because unless you are going to
have two defensemen on the power play which you can which you can or are you going to go to that
second unit a lot more and take the pressure off Olin Zellweger you're not taking Jackson
Lacombe off the power play to me he's a future Norris Trophy winner right I don't think you're
doing that you're probably having Carlson there as some sort of mentor as well as great player
like that's the part that's going to be very very interesting and i wonder about minchukov i
mentioned that obviously there was the rumors about the trade request we haven't heard anything
since um but you know is minchukov a guy potentially they move out to add yet another
piece because they have more in the system ready to come up to it seems like it but you know one
one thing that you want to be weary of is like this is your first year right in in this pocket
in the playoff pocket you don't want to do a good job rebuilding and then completely blow the doors
off you know right away you do got to be weary of that but if the guy you know potentially doesn't
want to be there yeah of course if he has value uh why not why not use him to supplant what you
already got to answer your power play question no no offense to jacob truba but i believe if i have
my lineup is correct he was playing on pp2 uh i think we're gonna move him off for john carlson
we could do better i think john carlson can get in there instead of jacob truba yeah yeah well i i
yeah i think maybe you're right there and that was a crazy right side that would put him totally yeah
that would put him with color colorn mctavish for trano and strome so more of a more of a uh
upper unit you know the thing with the um the washington capitals i think we have to give them
major credit for obviously they were a great team last year it's been a bad year this year
but they have moved out and moved on from their previous era in real time while drafting well
developing well and bringing players up into the nhl who actually have have transformed the team
all around ovechkin the out of the washington capitals are proof that you could continue to
reinvent yourself and yes sometimes you will miss the playoffs like it looks like they're going to
do this year i still think they're in a fine position i i do too and you look at the you just
you look at what they've been able to kind of pull together even if they who cares about the
condition on this pick the caps it'd be great if they drafted in 2026 in that first round and
anaheim makes it whatever but if they don't then they just trade the pick and get somebody else
right like this is for the washington capitals they've got this incredible thing where they've
got a brilliant foundation all they probably need to do is find a couple of really key pieces for
spencer carberry to deploy and allow alexander ovechkin to finish at least with one more playoff
run no the real mistake would have been letting john carlson go for nothing uh if he's willing
you got a first and third you have to make that trade absolutely you have to uh also the other
night same night beckett seneca and cutter goche uh seneca got his 20th goal goche got his 30th
goal listen i know matt schaefer is going to win the calder but seneca is leading all rookies in
scoring this year and the oshawa generals were thinking at the beginning of the season well he
might be sent back and they violently did not get him back and are all the way at the bottom of the
division and not having a good time although we saw them win the other day we did we did also
of note with anaheim while we're doing the video ryan paling signed an extension yesterday uh so
that's it that's great for them too that kind of solidifies their bottom three and i think uh or
sorry the bottom three the bottom six it's going to be an exciting playoff run or playoff push at
least for the anaheim ducks and obviously all day we will have trade deadline coverage whenever
there's a trade we do a video look for it here on the sdpn channel nick felino you are a member of
the minnesota wild as well yes there's so many wild trades happening and felino is going to the
minnesota wild from the chicago blackhawks for future considerations which means a couple of
things first off the felino brothers are going to get to play together second uh it also means that
chicago is without a captain and badar just started wearing the assistant captain in chicago
so i'm just saying i mean let's be honest yeah that's the captain i think we're being honest
about it now felino um is stop lying he expires his contract excuse me expires this year no no
salary retention because the blackhawks did not have another space with which to retain ah so i
was wondering okay because i thought surely he's got a little value four and a half million dollar
cap hit it's a big cap hit yeah so yeah i don't know if that caps minnesota out of the rest of
uh the rest of the dealings this daylight deadline according to uh puckpedia they've got 5.2 million
dollars but their projected space at the end of the year will be 1.1 so their current cap space
per day per day you know so a cap counting cap space is a little wonky you ever heard
of finagling they're out i'm sure they can they can finagle now there's lots of finagling let's
talk about the felinos because both of them are i mean marcus is injured right now but uh both of
them have had some pretty darn good careers they got to fulfill the felino quota that's right they
got to have at least one you got and they are character guys in every dressing room that they
step into obviously the reason that chicago paid the price that they paid to keep felino around
which is actually pretty high was to say listen we're not going to be very good but we want you
here to mentor our young guys and you know he is now away from that sort of leadership role and
he's going to be able to step into the minnesota wild with a load of experience not going to have
to necessarily play every night but if injuries happen um you know guys like that depth guys
become important uh let's talk about the leadership of the felinos and nick felino
specifically shall we hear from the head coach oh on what his thoughts are on nick felino being
traded and his uh leadership i didn't know we had him on the phone yeah so here's jeff blasio
at practice because they were having practice and felino was trade at the same time so the
reporters asked him hey what's going on with this trade yeah so nick felino's going to minnesota so
that's a you know a big one obviously one I'm happy for him as I said yesterday
I wish we were ten points in and none of this happens but we're not and for an
opportunity to go and play with your brother be part of something with your
brother I got a brother and it'd be an unbelievable thing and so I know you
You know, that means a ton to him and his family.
I know how important that is.
Who's playing the drums?
And then for me personally, just he's been awesome, awesome for me
and awesome for this organization.
But for me personally, coming in here this year,
having a chance to try to create culture and, you know,
with the helps of Murph and Dickie, you know, Bert, all our vets,
We've just had great papa bears that have helped these young guys along,
and Nick certainly led us in that.
He's been a great sounding board for me, been around the league a long time.
So when I had things that I wanted to kind of discuss and get a feel for
from a player's perspective, I could always lean on him.
He's an outstanding human being, one of the best I've been around.
So I'll miss him personally, and we'll miss him as a group.
Three things.
I know, Steve, you're antsy to get your stats out.
but one thank you to the chgo crew for providing that video immediately after at practice that's
awesome uh thank you second thing having nick felino there as a captain in chicago is clearly
like having another coach you can hear it from the coach and how much he appreciates that presence
there and the third thing he also announced that dickinson and burt tyler bertuzzi as he calls him
burt uh will be the new a's on the team okay yeah interesting anyways go ahead wait dickinson
jason jason is now an oiler oh sorry who am i thinking who are you thinking i'm not sure i was
like oh that's a good pick wait what did i pardon sorry there's a lot going on yeah um oh sorry yeah
with the uh leaving of jason dickinson is what i meant to say ah got a departure of dickinson
and felino burt gets the a got it sorry so uh it's interesting we were just talking about this
with uh the bobby brink video where minnesota wild trade david urochek for bobby brink who's
gonna slot where and we were still talking about the center position with minnesota
i don't think nick felino is a center at this point in his career he's even listed as a left
wing but i did want to point this out on chicago he's actually fifth in face-offs taken this season
at 328 and he's only played 37 games had he actually played the same amount of games as
conor bedard which is 48 he'd probably be well above him and he'd be in chicago's top four so
he's not a center anymore but he's like a wing plus uh if if that makes any sense there's uh
i know i'm sounding old but there's a lot of intangibles there uh with nick felino along
with the leadership and how did he actually do in those face off 49.4 not great but uh the black
hawks are not a very good face off team this is the ultimate do right by a guy trade yes like 100
if we're making a pantheon of do right by guys this is number one probably yeah and i mean i
think they traded him for nothing i think he matches the brand of the wild like i think it's
getting more and more clear that there's a few guys on the wild who are going to do all the
damage or the vast majority of the damage they're going to have the vast majority of the puck do the
vast majority of the shooting and hopefully do the vast majority of the scoring scoring the rest of
them are taxed with beating the crap out of everybody else again felino 37 games played
that's not a whole hell of a lot um it's a little over half the season he's third on the blackhawks
and hits yeah and if you're wondering what the rate is he's also third on the blackhawks and
hits per 60 like this this is a busy player who at his big age is still uh laying punishment on
opponents so i have a question for the two of you what do you think about bill garren's strategy
in going out and getting a couple wingers today
instead of go compiling the assets and getting a centerman.
I'm concerned on one front, Jesse,
because if he's going to go get the center
that we all think he needs to get,
how much is the salary?
And are you getting the team to retain?
And if you are getting the team to retain,
you're paying more, right?
They had a ton of salary cap room.
now they've brought in felino for nothing and i get that that's four and a half million dollars
i guess i guess the big question is are they done well they can't be well they cannot be done so
producer hayden and i were talking about this behind the scenes here is minnesota's conceivable
path to a stanley cup first round you probably draw dallas and right now you uh don't have home
ice advantage that's tough second round you very likely draw colorado that's tough third round who
you drawing edmonton vegas who knows that's tough and then you're drawing the ducks but
probably the ducks right you're probably drawing the eastern or probably you are drawing the eastern
conference champion in the stanley cup final like this is as hard a path to a stanley cup
as we've seen and they're staring it in the face and loading up for it they don't care
but loading up on the wings like yeah they went and when they've gone felino mccarran and brink
They didn't go and do the thing down the middle,
which is arguably their weakest spot.
And Jess, to that point,
how many great teams have we seen sunk by below-average centermen?
Or not even below-average centermen,
centermen that just can't match the stardom of the centermen that they're playing.
You've got to remember, you're talking about Dallas and Colorado.
And by the way, Colorado just picked up a centerman yesterday,
and Nick Waugh, who's no joke on that third line,
also won a cup in Vegas.
Dallas could still end up with one of Trochek or Kadri by the end of the day.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, so could Minnesota, though.
That's so crazy.
Right?
I mean, that's the thing.
So you look at, you know, they've got Rupe Hintz.
You know, I'm thinking...
Sagan's out.
Duchesne is playing.
Like, you know, you've got...
And then, you know, obviously we know Colorado centers,
and we know they probably are done upgrading there.
I think Jesse's right.
I think this is all...
You can at least question it.
I'm not saying it's all for naught,
but it's all very questionable.
If Ryan Hartman, who I believe started the last couple of games as your 1C,
and Eriksson Ek as your 2C, I love Eriksson Ek.
Hayden said it to me perfectly.
Hayden, our producer, is a big Wild fan.
Eriksson Ek's the perfect number two centerman.
And he was great for Sweden during the Olympics.
He's in your face, in front of the net, all of that sort of stuff.
But you need one more guy.
You can't do this run without another centerman.
If David Juracek could have got you Vincent Trocek,
maybe you probably should have done that deal instead of Brink.
It makes me wonder, Jesse, do you think they aim lower?
Do they go a Scott Lawton type, right?
Rental.
For the leaf's sake, I hope that's a first round.
Yeah, I don't know if that's bargain bin hunting.
That's not what I meant to say, but it's not a Padre, right?
Definitely, because they don't have the cash space for that.
But a Scott Lawton idea of an acquisition is the correct way to go
because that's somebody who the Leafs could retain on and he makes no money.
So you're not even worried about the cap space that you don't have.
But how do we feel about Ryan Hartman playing in the top six?
I like Ryan Hartman a lot.
I think he's a third line center on a Stanley Cup winning team.
This is where John Hines makes his money, right?
Like, you know what you have.
You're pretty good on the wings, man.
Pretty good on the wings.
You got crazy puck movers back there.
as long as the centerman is playing defensively responsible
and not hindering the offense, are you okay?
We haven't really seen a team quite build like this.
No, we haven't.
You know what I mean?
They're one of the most fascinating lineups in the NHL.
Their whole tending is crazy.
Their defense is crazy.
Up front, they have a couple murderers.
Up the middle, oh no.
Interesting.
Yeah, the Minnesota Wild.
It's a big balls bill.
Add it again.
We'll see what he does.
One thing that I want to keep an eye on,
Tarasenko has had a very good year for his age,
32 points in 55 games.
But I wonder if they are going to bring in that big-time center.
Now having Bobby Brink there as well, do they move?
Is Tarasenko a guy that could be moved out for salary?
He does have some trade protection, but not fully.
I think it's 16 teams.
you could move him out to a team that could flip him to someone else that's fascinating and and
that could give you the money that you might need to go get a Nazem Qadri like maybe you move him
to the flames as a part of the deal it's not one for one please don't misquote me I know but do you
do the flames then flip him to somebody I don't know I still can't help feel that Danil Urov is
your ticket but he's only 900 grand so it would be it'd be a part of it right yes yeah well do you
trade two thirds of a line that's actually really clicking for you for an upgrade but they can't
win face that might not actually that line can't win face off steve yeah so that's the problem
okay if you don't start with the puck what good is it especially in a tight checking series it's
not saturday night or it's not tuesday night against st louis it's every other night versus
dallas and colorado you're playing a cup contender every single time you show up to the rink for two
months if you're lucky if you're lucky that's that's the crazy part so anyway the Minnesota
Wilds continue to be the most interesting team in the NHL and more trades are coming we know that
it's trade deadline day on on the uh STPN excuse me not the Steve Dangle podcast although that is
us too and uh what's great about this is that we're going to be doing a video for every single
trade and a live stream at five o'clock tonight to wrap it all up in a nice little bow for you
Corey Perry's streak of making Stanley Cup finals
looked to be in jeopardy,
but the finalist parade is back on, baby.
Corey Perry is a Tampa Bay Lightning player again
for a second round pick.
This, by the way, after there were reports yesterday
that he was off the board, wanted to extend.
In fact, as a part of my Warren Fogle deal
trade video last night, I kind of thought,
well, that must mean that's why they want to keep him
because they're going to extend Perry.
And maybe L.A. does re-sign Perry in the offseason, but he will be playing in Tampa for this run.
He's had a great season, guys.
Dude, I complimented Sam Carrick for getting traded for a couple picks at this deadline, being a player drafted in 2010.
Yep.
Corey Perry was drafted in 2003.
I cannot believe he's still going, and he's effective.
Really effective.
I know not everyone's paid attention to the Kings.
It's like, aside from them being kind of middling,
they also haven't been the most entertaining.
I just want to say this very quickly.
He was drafted before there was an NHL salary cap.
Holy Toledo.
Holy actual...
Did he play?
No, he didn't.
No, he didn't.
He made his debut when there was a salary cap.
He was too busy in the lockout shortened season
winning a championship with the London Knights.
in 50 games this season he has 11 goals 17 assists 28 points in only 14 minutes and 19 seconds of ice
time did you know in four more games he has more points than anze kopitar dude whoa here let me hit
you with this he has 11 power play points which might not knock your socks off it's third on the
kings he's tied for the most or sorry second most primary power play points on the kings
i effective i cannot believe he's still doing this and you know the offensively deficient la
kings i can only imagine uh what he's going to do on the tampa bay lightning oh wait i don't have
to imagine we saw it like five minutes ago dare i say ken holland is doing the exact thing he
should be doing right now and that is moving off of this asset that is going to probably leave or
can come back in the off season and recouping a second round pick for it because i think everybody
should come to grips with this probably isn't a playoff team in la i know adam you feel differently
you think they're gonna squeeze in there but even if they're three points back i think we've seen
them play enough for this season that's gonna still be a battle to get in i mean yeah i i the
question i have for the for the the la kings is what effect does dj smith have on the locker room
uh it's pretty clear guys and and you know i talked about this in the fogel thing last night
that whatever happened towards the end
was not good between the players and the coach.
I mean, we saw the Phil Deneau trade out of nowhere.
The Warren Fogle trade, not entirely surprising.
He's been injured, whatever.
The Corey Perry trade's interesting.
But there is, there seemed to be something really,
like who fires the coach a week before the deadline
and still wants to make the playoffs?
That doesn't happen all the time.
The team that should have fired their coach
12 months earlier.
Well, 100%.
It's crazy that we're still able to say this in 2026.
Trading Corey Perry is not the behavior of a buying team.
That's not the behavior of a team that plans on making the playoffs.
So now I'm confused.
Because I thought they were buyers.
No.
They went out and they got Burton Aaron.
Yeah, but that was when they thought they were going to be buyers.
And Armia and Fiala are likely, well, Fiala will definitely not be buying.
Fiala's screwed up.
Armia's definitely, well, maybe out, sorry.
So, yeah, maybe, Jesse, maybe you're right.
Maybe they're going, hey.
Their evaluation period came throughout the Olympic break and then immediately afterwards.
And after that, losing 8-1 to the Oilers, and then you lose the next night.
They knew Jim Hiller was done, and this season is probably going a little off the rails.
But it doesn't mean LA has a bad team.
It's not like they're in rebuild territory.
It's just right now, this current group this year either needs a kick in the butt, which is the new head coach in DJ Smith, and you go on your run, you make the playoffs.
Or it's we need to settle things.
We're going to retool and also maybe make the playoffs, but also probably miss.
And you sell a guy like Corey Perry, who if he likes LA can come back or if he's going
to leave or retire, you still got a second round pick for that.
That's good business.
A hundred percent.
And you're running out of teams to catch.
Like, I'm just looking at it.
Like, do we really expect the Oilers to miss?
I don't.
I know they're on a bit of a skid.
Utah is loading up.
All right.
So that ship is sailing.
Now you have Seattle.
Seattle is basically your only option.
And you're tied with the Sharks who have two games in hand on you.
you have a minus 22 goal differential like maybe this is the hard decision that is the one you have
to make right yeah right la got the second round pick uh and the third round pick yesterday for
warren fogel second round pick for uh cory perry i think surprising to me is that uh warren fogel
is worth more than cory perry on this market that's that's wild to me term let's talk about
cory perry as a lightning player again because obviously he was a huge part of the stanley cup
runs that he was on and he unfortunately was not there for the years where they won and by the way
in case you're keeping track dating back to the dallas stars run uh in covid cory perry has been
to every single stanley cup since 2019 2020 um i'm curious about where he fits on the lightning
you know what's crazy he went to all three of those lightning stanley cup finals on the losing
team every time yes including the lightning yeah Montreal and uh yeah Montreal Dallas and then
Tampa losing to Colorado just unbelievable it's completely insane what are the odds that's worse
than Marian Hossa yes yeah do you have him though on like where where does he go here because
obviously like I'm looking at uh Puckpedia right now I don't think it's fully updated but like
they got Scott Sabrin penciled in on the fourth line I feel or or Pontus Holmberg who's had a
very good year in tampa is on the third line is perry a top six guy is your third third line
winger like where do we have him go i unless he's a right winger unless there's an absolute
emergency no disrespect to the man scott sabran will not touch the shirt no and so in the stanley
cup playoffs i mean could he be the worst guy to throw out there in like game one of a series just
to mess stuff up like i don't know but uh you make room for cory perry he's that impact yeah
but my my question is where like do you move holmberg down and have a gergensen's gourd and
perry i think slotting him on the fourth line is fine as long as you understand that you're getting
him as power play cookies okay um i don't think his ice time goes up much from what it was in la
i mean that was the insane thing about his tenure with the oilers is oh my god they got him playing
in the top six yeah half the time he's like having to keep up a dry side yeah stuff it was it was
kind of nuts uh probably at even strength fourth line okay just crash bash mess stuff up and then
score on the power play maybe john cooper takes some i don't know some something he learned from
the olympics where they had the 13th forward and he kind of uses cory perry throughout the lineup
you know like i would pencil him in when i'm drawing it up on the fourth line but cory perry
it's weird to say this but at 40 or 40 years old can be an energy guy throughout the lineup
and if like push comes to shove you need a goal middle third period and you want him up in the
top six move him up he's like i feel like he can he's a real asset for cooper to use in limited
minutes like i wouldn't i'm not gonna play him for for 20 minutes a night nothing ridiculous but
in his 11 minutes that he might get on the lightning i'd see like maybe half of it on the
fourth line and the rest of it just kind of spread out throughout the lineup i was gonna say oh if
you wanted to put him on the top oh that's kucherov okay so perhaps not um but like yes you you can
move them throughout the lineup and the guy who like daily face off has listed as the third line
right wing is pontus holmberg who's like your ultimate utility player pontus holmberg who's
having one of the best defensive winger seasons of anybody in the entire league which is crazy
as a center yeah like he's a left he's a center he's a right he's defensive guy maybe chip in a
couple points tampa is a really versatile lineup and cory perry really really solidifies that uh
emily caplan is reporting that perry has some bonuses and by the way this does put tampa into
overage interesting so there are according to puckpedia they're about uh 995 000 in projected
space but remember they've got some injuries um i'm not sure where nick paul's injury is at
so you know there could be some finagling i'm sure they will get him back jeez i'm sure they
will figure that out just a jerk lineup but emily caplan says perry uh was on the one year two
million dollar deal with performance bonuses he just got paid 250 grand for the 50 game mark
Tampa will pay him $125,000 for a first round win
$250,000 for a second round win
and because he's always in the finals
we should say he would get $125,000
for a conference final win as well
I would love to know if he asked for a trade
because like hey man
I'm not hitting those bonuses here
send me to Tampa
I'm not hitting those bonuses in LA
send me to Tampa
he hit all of the games played bonuses
because he's played more than 50
I'm not saying he did
i'm just saying it would make sense if he did and i wonder if too that the deal because he just hit
what is he at 51 games yeah literally 50 oh he's literally 50 i wonder if this deal needed to
happen after he hit that 50 he did so that the kings paid it out on their side probably less
for tampa and maybe this deal was in the works a couple days and they waited to deadline day
specifically uh to make this deal and then yeah that that 125 for round one of the playoffs i'm
asking for a trade too for 125 000 hell yeah uh and their uh his 50th game would have been last
night yeah last so you which i imagine would have been squeaky butt time because you can't you let
let's say tinfoil hat you know you're trading this player you can't sit him no you need him to play
that 50th game because it's key to the trade yeah that's actually crazy uh by the way doesn't want
to fork over the money if the playoff started today the lightning would be playing the team
that they played in the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals,
the Montreal Canadiens, Corey Perry's former team.
For all of Corey Perry's former team.
That's half the league.
That's what you're talking about.
Well, I mean, it was special
because they went to the finals, though.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's half the league.
The Sabres, by the way, are tied with the Lightning,
but the Lightning have two games in hand on them.
So, you know, the Sabres have made big moves.
The Lightning have now made a pretty big move.
You know, I think that's a big character move,
big playoff move.
cory perry has 141 points career in his playoffs 237 games which is nuts that's a lot of playoff
games um i'm curious about where that leaves the detroit red wings but the you pointed out
that the lightning are at the cap yeah so like they can't do anything else i don't think it
seems like everybody's kind of loading up but they're probably done unless they're moving out
to it to bring somebody in right yeah that's or cap cap finagling but yeah yeah but there isn't
as much as that anymore because you need to be playoff cap compliant right that's right uh it's
i'm still getting used to it like i i'm the kind of learner where i need to see it in front of me
yeah to really understand it so like i need to find out by the end of the day oh no this team
messed up no no you can't do that you can't so we will see what happens with uh the lightning
although it would seem that unless there's some big money going out not much is coming back in
buffalo's made some big moves like i said this i think ratchets off the heat on steve eiserman
and the Detroit Red Wings.
And if they sit back and do nothing,
can you blame them because the prices are high?
Or, hey, Stevie, you haven't been to the playoffs in 10 years.
Get out there.
Can I highlight something with Corey Perry?
Because you mentioned all the points.
Definitely not on Detroit, though.
Definitely don't.
Sorry.
I was throwing it at a Detroit thing.
I thought this was the Corey Perry video.
Yeah, but I was talking about the division at large.
Oh, my bad.
Corey Perry, currently third all-time in playoff games played.
Wow.
That's a crazy stat.
Detroit it.
Detroit it.
In second place, Nicholas Lidstrom.
And Chris Chelios is number one.
There you go.
So, I mean, he would need to go on like a nearly 30-game run this year
to catch Nicholas Lidstrom, but it's not.
I don't know.
It's not complete.
No, you can't play 30 games in the playoffs.
You get 28.
Yes.
I'm trying to illustrate to you that it's impossible.
No.
Steve, let's just drop the video.
What is 237 plus 28?
Fuck, it didn't work.
Anyway.
So, when trades come in today,
SDPN...
Oh, no.
He would pass Lindstrom.
Oh, my God.
He would pass Lindstrom.
Videos.
We'll have videos every single trade,
including great side tangents from Steve.
We'll see if the Red Wings do anything.
And remember, 5 o'clock tonight,
Eastern Standard Time,
we're doing a big live stream here,
and we're going to break it all down for you.
bobby mcmahon you are no longer a toronto maple leaf we'll miss you good luck in seattle bobby
mcmahon member of the seattle kraken until he comes back right for a second round pick in 2027
and a fourth round pick this year which is 2026 very interesting so at the time we're shooting
this we don't know which pick and the reason we don't know which pick seattle has three second
rounders in 2027 and they have three fourths in 2026 so you'd say dealing from a position of
strength just dealing from a position of strength here's what you need to know a second round pick
is anywhere between 33rd and 64th overall that's a pretty big swing fourth is 97th to 128th i know
you didn't tune in here to be like give me the details on the fourth um the second round pick
is what matters the most and the seconds that they own are winnipeg seattle and columbus bobby
mcmahon jesse uh has had another good season with the leafs he had 20 goals last year in 14 less
games this year so far he has 19 goals um and this is a guy who i think people would say at it on his
best nights is a speedy power forward light because he's not the most physical guy on the
ice right no but he's not afraid to get into stuff and early on this season that was one of my biggest
compliments for mcmahon a lot more strong the the leafs were getting into tussles with other teams
and he would often be the only guy standing up for anybody so i love his game and you mentioned
the speed that's the biggest thing about bobby mcmahon he might be the fastest player in the
nhl depending how we're judging things if you're straight away without the puck straight away or
or moving uh east to west who knows but he's up there amongst the fastest players so seattle's
getting something they need which is scoring wingers uh they've always kind of needed that
so i feel like goals at all from anything yeah yeah and he's gonna definitely help he's a breakout
player late in his career that's why i've been so adamant about the least not signing him long term
but as a rental for these playoffs he's gonna be really good and we get to do that thing where
we're talking about mccann or mcmahon and be confused hey hey and now they're teammates both
Former Leafs.
Yeah, this was Kyle Dubas' dream all along.
Hey, can I say something?
Now that he's gone.
That's your job.
Now that he's gone, I wasn't overly impressed with Bobby McMahon in the playoffs last year.
13 games played, no goals, three assists.
He got lost offensively.
If I'm not mistaken, he was coming off an injury, and he never really found a role.
And the year before, when we played Boston, he didn't play at all.
He did not play at all because he was out with an injury.
Yeah, that's right.
I didn't play Boston in the Leafs.
Yeah.
Adam said we.
Yeah, we.
I say we.
I'm part of Leafs.
We all play the same amount of games.
How much fun?
I have given a lot of my funding to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I have to take some ownership in it.
Damn it.
You know what?
I think here's the thing.
Bobby at his best still, still, still surprises people with his speed.
He could still, like, people are still unprepared.
Every night.
For how fast.
And that's the funny thing.
It's like, dude, I know you guys read the scouting reports.
You know this guy can do it.
Well, now he's going to go out west and do it again.
right i think he's gonna go out west and do it again um and i he fits basically anywhere on
seattle like it wasn't a slam dunk heading into the season that he was going to be an everyday
player oh yeah it wasn't a slam dunk he really found his footing on a line i want to say it was
with nick waugh and dakota joshua it was an excellent third line um he's also had success
offensively with like Domi and Robertson which was also another weird third line but that is
what got him promoted to the top line with uh Matthews and whoever's up there sometimes it was
Domi sometimes it was Nylander yeah and if I can throw it back to you like the you're doing the
outline of him making the lineup this season but Bobby McMahon's story is a true testament to a
great development by the Toronto Maple Leafs this man was a university player for four years so he
said this man it's this mcmahon hey mcmahon was a mcmahon was a university player for four years
played in the e for the newfoundland growlers and steve just speak to how much of an accomplishment
this is for him to reach this point at age 29 yeah four uh years at colgate university and
that's when he could have got completely lost in the covid void and he almost did like not every
echl team played um in the uh in the 2020 2021 season that's why he was part with the wichita
thunder because the newfoundland growlers did not play any games and part with the toronto marlies
and even in his first season with the marlies in 21 games he had four points that is a random man
then he throws up 61 points 24 goal or sorry in 61 games 24 goals 35 points in 21 22 finally gets
his cup of coffee with the Leafs nothing really happened so he goes back to the Marlies again
21 goals in 30 games the guy's crazy he's up with the Leafs again they're going to healthy
scratch him that was the plan it was in a home game against St. Louis and for whatever reason
a roster spot open so I think it was a suspension someone was sick or suspended or hurt I can't
remember what it was he scores a hat trick on Jordan Binnington that night and he just sort
never stopped scoring after that and he found a way to do it consistently he had 20 goals last
season in 74 games he's already got 19 and 60 in case you're wondering what it might take to
re-sign him either in Seattle or if he walks to the market the Leafs were only comfortable I think
the reported numbers were in the four million dollar range McMahon especially after that
Kiefer Sherwood contract where he's making 5.75 also a late bloomer was something they were saying
five plus uh for maybe four or five years that uh was just outside of the Leafs comfort zone and
you know in all honesty even you know I think if the Leafs were a good team they probably look at
resigning this player but uh to Steve's point uh on the podcast a few weeks ago what are we
preserving right right why are we why would we resign these people and preserve what this amazing
run we've been on I don't think so uh now with the crack if the Leafs if the Leafs are in a
playoff spot right now you keep this guy as an own rental yeah you don't even worry about signing
him oh my god of course you just worry about that on july 1st or whenever your season comes to a
close but because they are in the position they are in they've actually recouped i think good
couple assets for somebody that was just magic beans out of college i think it's pretty impressive
i want to ask you first off bobby mcmahon for anybody that might not have paid a lot of attention
to him and by the way around the western conference especially you probably haven't seen much of him
He's listed as a center on the NHL website,
Hockey TV, everywhere else.
What position does Bobby McMahon play, guys?
He's an effective winger on both sides.
There you go.
I would say he's played a lot of right, played a lot of left.
I don't know where exactly he fits in on the Kraken lineup.
That's what I'm trying to look at.
Jared McCann, Jordan Eberle, Jaden Schwartz,
Ellie Tolvanen, who's been very effective for the Kraken.
Berkeley Catton, great young player.
Capo Caco, I could see him in that spot
next to Shane Wright and Berkeley Catton.
And then Ben Myers, Freddie Goudreau, and Jacob Melanson.
This is like a sneaky long night of the team.
They're not necessarily going to bash you, but you are going to be exhausted.
He has more points than Tolvanen.
And he definitely has more points than Kakko and Katton.
So obviously they needed more scoring up the wings, as Jesse sort of mentioned.
Now I want to talk about the return for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Because we have been told many, many times,
it's they're asking a first that seems to be the price whatever it was smart of them i think if
that was the original ask to back off of that and take what they could second and a fourth um jesse
i'm gonna go to you first on this one you say you don't mind the return here tell me why because i
think some people are a little upset online it's okay you i really did also want the first this is
the next best option and i'm not gonna get on bad bradshaw living for the exact return here
there are other things you can get on him for yep maybe one is not doing this earlier maybe a first
was available before the olympic break i'm not sure but if he was willing to sell then maybe
you do get the first because of the runway the other team would have for mcmahon maybe the prices
were there uh at that point but right now on deadline day a second and a fourth is a pretty
good return uh glass half full uh you have two seconds next year you only had one pick in the
first four rounds this year which was a third now you have two at very least uh glass half empty
your entire job is talent evaluation um you should have been able to know when to turn the lights off
and it was a lot sooner than today and uh you didn't get enough return for this player but
look you don't look so no looking out at the market out there and what other guys have gotten
no it's not a disaster it's also not enough steve is it possible that people just don't value
mcmahon the way we value mcmahon yes yeah absolutely um but you could if i was going to be
uh if i was going to be hard if you were if you were selling me bobby mcmahon the first thing i'd
say to you is yeah that's nice but he's playing next to austin yeah well the way but he's going
to do the way he got up to austin was by not playing with austin right though which is so that
that's the cop-out that anyone's gonna say and i to me it's just so lazy like it's you don't need
to watch a single bobby mcmahon game to pull that out of your ass you know what i mean he's been so
effective with so many different line mates dakota joshua and nick waugh are not max domey and nick
robertson at all and he's been effective on both of those lines long before he got to austin
matthew perhaps the best part of this if you're a leafs fan is they can never reunite domi robertson
and mcmahon as fun as that line could be on the offensive side holy smokes it was bad no we just
get to watch uh domi at center for the next like 15 games i look at the players who went for a
first round pick so that's today john carlson nick waugh uh yesterday or two days ago term
Those players, Shen, those players in my eyes are worth their first round pick,
and Bobby McMahon is a step down.
So that's where I come to a second and a fourth.
It's kind of right where you should be for these assets.
I think there's two ways, sorry, three ways to get that kind of value.
Number one is they just have to be a great player.
So that's John Carlson.
He's a great player.
Number two, you've got to have term.
Nick Wah had term.
And as a center.
And as a center.
Number three is you retain.
and as the Leafs got closer and closer and closer to the deadline they ran out of buyers and they
lost the ability to retain like the Leafs probably said hey Seattle we'll retain and you give us this
and Seattle's like we don't really need you to do that so who cares um the partner was the Oilers
and they missed out well I I do think there's criticism for maybe not doing your business
earlier and believing that the team is better than they are but I don't know I see if I disagree
that today the value is higher than a second and a fourth yeah it's it's tough to i mean the one
thing it's kind of funny uh is mccarran went for a second right but again when you're dealing in
that division the prices must be higher because of what's at stake for all the wild dallas and
colorado avalanche right like that's it's also dependent on what your playoff race and situation
what kind of works for so i i like this deal for seattle i'm okay with it for toronto i i i here's
the thing i'm not going to leave a bad review but i'm also not going to tell anyone about your
restaurant okay that's fair enough fair enough it's fine uh there is more trade deadline coverage
coming we're getting trades kind of sneaking through here and we've been waiting on some
videos because obviously we didn't know what the returns were but we're starting to sdpn's trade
deadline coverage continues even though it's after the bell because we also have our live
stream coming up at five o'clock today okay so we've got brayden shen for a first a third and
a prospect jonathan druin will also uh be a part of that package so that's shen to the islanders
for a first a third and a prospect jonathan druin going back as a part of that package to st louis
by the way the prospect is marcus gridloff uh not a name that i'm particularly familiar with
but it's a you know it's an interesting thing because uh the ask price for braden shen when he
was rumored to be coming to toronto uh was a first a second a third and a prospect and we were like
holy mother of god that's a lot and it's funny a year later even in a down season doug armstrong
is able to get a first a third and a prospect so it's just shy of what he was asking for before
which kind of matches the season shen's having uh marcus gidloff is a 2024 fifth round pick
goaltender who has a 9 and 15 record for lexans in sweden uh this year uh lexans is really really
really not good so take his eight nine six save percentage with a uh a grain of salt okay jesse
Brayden Shen, Andre Pallott, Carson Soucy,
all members now of the New York Islanders, a surprise team.
They were surprised to be the first overall pick.
It was surprising how great Matthew Schaefer's been.
It's not really surprising how good Ilya Sorokin's been.
He's been great for a long time, just on some bad teams.
I think that Matthew Darsh and probably Doug Armstrong,
the guys the principal players in this trade have had the two best deadlines in the league i
the best deadlines is that is that where i think they had the complete opposite deadline that i
predicted at the beginning of the season yeah i predicted that they would be that they would be
in the mix but if they chose to be sellers they could be the biggest sellers in the league and
then matthew schaefer arrives and goes sorry buddy flipping the script here yeah um darsh has tried
to make the team better is my point and i oh yeah big time big time you know and we're seeing we
haven't yet seen anything from pittsburgh so i'm reserving judgment but i'm looking at who they're
competing with and darshy i think understands that you got to have uh you you got to get ahead
of pittsburgh because you you've got columbus nipping at your heels and chances are you fall
out of that third spot where the islanders are perilously close to doing you know three points
separating them from columbus guys uh you're not in the playoff picture no kind of kind of an
important aspect of this trade is the islanders actually don't take on that much money uh this
year and next because braden shen makes six and a half obviously this year and for the next two
years jonathan drewan makes four this year and next oh so that you know even if braden shen
somewhat underachieves yes it's a six and a half million dollar cap hit but it's like retaining
without retaining right uh if that makes sense now obviously you do lose the player with drew
and but like he hasn't had the greatest season 55 games played three goals 18 assists 21 points
brayden shen 12 goals 16 assists 28 points and also is brayden shen like plays the middle has
won a cup yes that was now coming up on seven years ago but still one you know hockey guys
love that so you've got so adam you're you say he's got the best deadline i despite i think those
two did yeah he's made only one move today so this this move pumps him into i can't well i'm sorry i
counted like the the palat and susie deals i maybe i shouldn't okay they were done like a month ago
that was like january i know but it would have been would have been later if it wasn't for the
olympics that's why you're throwing you threw me off with this thing about the best you made one
deal today okay i'm i'm merely speaking as a as a i'm taking it as uh since 2026 because the i
think february totally screws us all up if you were to take those trades and include them given
what he gave up which in this shen deal is a lot he still does get two more years of shen calum
richie has been his second line center this year and in 46 games has 16 points perhaps that's too
much to ask from him right now it is and you've got Peugeot so you've got Horvat Shen and Peugeot
down center and I think that makes a heck of a lot more sense especially if you're going to play
the Pittsburgh Penguins it looks like they might play and Crosby and Malkin may not be fully
healthy yeah I don't think that's going to be a fun time for anyone playing the Islanders like
this really solidifies them up the middle I think the Islanders are so much further ahead of the
curve than anybody thought they would be and this is the right thing to do at this moment you should
capitalize on the good team that you have because it's not like they had to tear everything down to
the studs and rebuild everything like bars all is still there or that's still there everybody that
they've had from their really good teams anders lee and pageau who you already mentioned like
those guys are there and they took a little bit of a step back but now they're kind of fine again
and they've been playing great all season and to your point about adding palat and now shen
and carson susie now you're filling in the gaps that you kind of lost in the down years and now
you're just a solid good team again and it's very good work it's hard to believe too that they sold
no adopts it yes like like isn't it crazy like yeah that's part of the reason i thought they
were gonna end up where they did well i think everybody did steven and where i thought they
were not definitely not where they did what's important and i don't expect people to know this
because unless you're following hockey with a microscope,
you're not going to know which AGM started where,
but Matthew Darsh trained under Iserman and then Breezewa in Tampa.
Iserman and Breezewa put that team together.
Breezewa executed and won all those cups.
I mean, this is a guy to keep an eye on.
This might be one of the next hot young general managers in the NHL.
I don't even know how old he is,
but like young is a relative term when we're talking about NHL GMs.
I just look at this and I think, oh, by the way,
Also, Chris Johnson just announced right now,
Jean-Cabriel Paggio has signed a three-year extension
with the Isles at $4.85 million.
So they are coming together.
That's actually a decrease in pay.
It is.
He's making $5 million right now.
I believe it's called a structured dismissal.
No, I'm kidding.
J.G. Paggio, 55 games this season, 14 goals, 15 assists, 29 points,
and is J.G. Paggio.
That's a good player, man.
They're going to be a pest in the playoffs.
They're not an easy out.
And I think if they get the Penguins, they have a series that they think they can win.
I hope it is Islanders-Penguins because every division has their own style of play.
This is a Metro Division series built in a lab.
And I don't know how to describe it, but I think it's going to be the face wash Olympics.
These guys are going to beat the crap out of each other after every whistle.
And it's going to be them skating each other into the dirt.
Before we get to the St. Louis side of this, one more thing on the Islanders.
You know what's interesting?
the islanders let's say let's say that yes thank you let's say the islanders get through pittsburgh
okay sure let's just say now you never want to bet against crosby in the playoffs no you don't
but let's say that you said underrated pain in the ass you know who didn't do anything today at
least from what we've seen so far carolina hurricanes who are i'm shocked yeah they're
most likely second round appoint a a person because they always make the second round
and i like this islanders team and the way they would match up in theory against those carolina
hurricanes i like that a lot and like i talk about the down years of the islanders and they're being
able to bridge this gap here the down years quote i'm doing air quotes for anybody listening
are losing two times to the carolina hurricanes in the first round right that's the team that
they're trying to overcome to get better you know you miss the playoffs i think it is and
you lose two times the hurricanes then you miss the playoffs again and then now it looks like
they'll be back again and that's those are your opponents you're going up against spetsburg you'll
probably face the carolina in the next round and i think they are primed well to hang in a series
against them yeah i don't i don't think they should be scared at all about making the conference
finals out of that division i i think it's actually it's actually really great and very
doable so long story short not bad now let's move over to and this is a really important one uh the
st louis blues side of this thing there's other blues moves to talk about we're obviously going
to talk about it on our live stream but for right now uh the first round pick in 2026 that the blues
received uh was from colorado uh that is part of the calum richie trade from last year so that's
the lower of the two because colorado is obviously having an incredible year and the third uh the
third round pick we know that there's a justin faulk trade to talk about where they also got a
first and a third but that's some pretty good asset accumulation by mr doug armstrong uh it's
not bad it's not bad you know my sour view on him mostly has to do with oh I'm gonna do this I'm
gonna do that I'm gonna do that and then he does this and it's like well he did something and I'm
like man we could have had Pareko we could have had Thomas we could have had so many other fun
things how many times have they tried to trade Cairo oh my gosh uh and this Braden Shen one I'm
still only giving you part marks because it's a year late but yes it is a good return um yeah I
I think it kind of sets them up perfectly.
Obviously, they're going to have to make good on the draft picks
or deal them for the right players if that's what they want to do.
Because, again, to me, I'm trying to figure out St. Louis' direction.
I remember a couple years ago they were out of the playoffs
and then tried to get Timo Mayer, and he ended up with the Devils.
I think that the Kyrou Thomas years are over.
I don't think that they see this.
I think, listen, they tried to trade both of them multiple times.
i feel like they have decided they're over off-season thing off-season thing and i i is
this a full full full rebuild i mean would you trade your captain yeah um but you still have
pareko the problem is all these no moves right because he would have moved pareko if he could
absolutely no yeah thomas no move bush nevis no move cairo no move like you almost wonder if part
of getting these guys to waive their no move
is making the team as bad as possible.
And one way to do that is, I don't know,
let's trade the captain.
I still feel like there's so much young, good talent there
that could be something.
Like Neighbors and Snuggerud and Dylan Holloway.
Like, there's a tough forward, too.
And Broberg on the back end that you did the offer sheet for.
Like, I feel like there's pieces,
and if you have Thomas and Kairou there
who are in their mid-20s, you're not far off.
No, I, I, if I'm Doug Armstrong, I don't want to tear it down to the studs.
So I, so then here's the other question.
I've, we've heard it so many times that Doug Armstrong is probably out after this season
because either his contract is up or they're ready a season early for Steen.
It's people are starting to talk like it's a foregone conclusion that he's going to be
in Toronto.
Well, we don't know that for sure.
The plan was originally that he would move into the president role.
Like he wasn't going to like leave the organization or retire.
it'd be steed gets gm and he gets into this executive suite right you know so maybe that
changes okay i don't know it'll be very very interesting and maybe with steen taking over
their views on kairu and thomas trade change because hey it's not easy to find players like
that that's why the prices for them are so high so anyway long story short that is the st louis
blues and the new york islanders doing some business here shen the first the third the
prospect. Drouin is also a part of that. And our STPN's trade deadline coverage will continue.
We have another Islanders, sorry, excuse me, Blues deal to talk about. And don't forget,
live stream at five o'clock Eastern Standard on the STPN YouTube channel.
Scott Lawton, it breaks my heart to say this, but you are a Los Angeles King. I got to tell you,
from a personal standpoint, Scott Lawton is my favorite Leaf in a very, very long time.
and uh he fetches the leafs according to emily caplan a conditional third that upgrades to a
second if los angeles makes the playoffs there's a lot of options for what that could be the kings
uh their third round pick that they have this year is ottawa's they don't have one next year
they have their own in 2028 they have three seconds this year their own columbuses and
buffaloes they have their own next year and uh in 2028 they have their own and the lightnings
um i'll cut to the chase fire brad true living today fire brad true living today
today i don't care what else breaks is that are you taking that on balance because the
wah return was good yep the mcmahon which return where you were you were not great how'd you get
wah what do you mean oh how'd you get wah marner yeah because you you had just got there but you
were the GM at the time and you took the job knowing you were going to lose this player for
nothing. You get slight brownie points for losing him for almost nothing. You managed to turn almost
nothing into a first and a fifth. And the reason it's a first and a fifth, you know what I'd rather
have than the first and the fifth, a playoff spot. He built a bad team. He traded the sun and the
moon for scott lawton for two playoff runs like i said i'd rather have the second playoff run we
didn't get the second playoff run and instead what we get is probably a third rounder because
the kings stink fire them today for listen you could argue this this is what makes it sound worse
first and grabenkin turns into a third round pick in a calendar year
yeah the original deal was scott lawton to the leafs with a fourth and a sixth a fourth and 25
and a sixth and 27 that's what philly sent and then the leaf sent a first round pick and nikita
grabenkin the other way so the leafs did get a couple picks out of that yeah so it's uh what is
the lawton deal you get a second maybe you get a third that turns into a second no guarantee kings
who are not in a playoff spot make the playoffs.
Let's say pie in the sky.
Pie in the sky, Jesse.
Best case scenario, you got a second, a fourth, and a sixth
in exchange for Grabenkin and a first.
And a Lawton playoff run.
Oh, then fire him tomorrow.
Give him some extra time to pack his shit.
You're disappointed.
I'm so disappointed.
I'm so, so disappointed.
Scott Lawton should fetch you a first-round pick.
And Bradshaw Living didn't get that
because he kept banging his head against the wall
and believing that this Leafs team was a good team
and a playoff team, and he waited way too late,
and now he got his lunch money taken.
How'd you get a first and a fifth for Nick Waugh,
and you got a conditional third for a guy who makes half the money?
And I would argue...
And I know Waugh has the extra year.
On a playoff team where Scott Lawton can be your masterful penalty killer,
he might be more valuable than Nick Waugh.
Yes, and how are those salary retention spots?
Still unused?
Three available.
awesome great maybe use it on morgan in the offseason so disappointing so disappointing
now what a terrible job for los angeles uh i have to have a look at their penalty kill numbers
but this is an interesting pickup because they sold cory perry earlier today for a second round
pick which i'm sure makes you feel great um this yeah that's always good when a 40 year old
oh my god oh yeah they sold it they sold a 40 year old for a second round pick dude michael mccarron
Oh, I'd fire him today.
The Kings swapped, essentially, Perry for Lawton.
I'd fire him today.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my holy Lord.
Lord above in heaven.
Los Angeles has a...
They have the 28th best.
They've got...
Or I guess the better way to call it is the sixth worst...
Fifth worst PK in the entire league.
So Scott Lawton will help them with that.
He'll make that better instantly.
There's a team who addressed a weakness
with one of the best in the league.
One of the things I never understood...
Hey, maybe they'll actually play him.
He played under 14 minutes a game in Toronto.
One of the things I've never understood...
First round pick.
One of the things I never understood about the Leafs in this deadline
is why you didn't sell Lawton and Lorenz together.
They didn't make that much money.
Because they are bad at what they do.
And they are the fourth, I think, fourth or fifth best PK in the entire league right now.
They're a fantastic duo.
Why not just sell them both together?
You 100% could.
The retention slots is a good point,
because that slot's only going to cost you for, what is it?
it's uh right now so till the end of april like it's it you get it back once he once his contract's
done so why not just help a team out and retain that salary because they don't know and that
opens you up to everybody in the league because everybody has a million bucks and then you can
get more assets for that and they did not do that there's 32 gms in the nhl and you ain't in the top
half you ain't in the top three quarters that is terrible work wow i'm so disappointed yeah they
It sounds like the market fell out from under them
at the last minute, and they had to rush it.
Let's just call it what it is.
That seems to be what it is for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
That'd be crazy if we called that weeks ago.
You've got to get your homework done early.
This is what happens, and this has been...
Don't we always call it?
This is what happened when...
One of the things that's followed Bradshaw
living around his entire career,
but has become more and more evident in Toronto,
is he is overanalyst...
Sorry, paralysis by overanalysts.
So, like, literally, the Leafs seem to not know what numbers to look at from their departments.
That's fascinating.
Something that I hear time and time and time again from people inside the league that have to deal with the Leafs is they can never get a straight answer from Brad.
Wow.
They can never get, yes, definitively this, no, definitively not that.
Wow.
That is – and I've been holding that back, hoping that this wouldn't happen.
but that is a brad for living trait he has trouble pulling the trigger everything you've said is
backed up by the deals that he's made like which is why i waited to say it yeah he kicked my ass
at the dead no the evidence to that and everything you're saying is this is exactly how he's acted
in the entire leafs era and the one i can point to specifically that's as egregious as this one
was the brandon carlo deal where we know the beats of that negotiation yeah where he was in on
another trade that fell through last minute and he pivoted very quickly to carlo and boston and
that's why he gave up the pick that he did and that's why it's only top five protected because
the last minute he needed to give them those details when normally picks are top 10 protected
yeah he waits to the end and he always does this find out who the bad gms are and call them all
the time and guess which one your team has did ken holland just fleece brad you're living yep
okay well ken holland's had a good deadline day yeah hey kenny you're doing good yeah ken holland
not not so bad not bad at all cory perry was good yeah this is good well done all right hey we're
giving ken holland his flowers here uh i guess we should have given him to before because he was uh
you know his team did go to the finals a couple years ago um anyway long story short uh the
The SDPN trade deadline coverage will continue.
You know, you hold back because we still got a live stream in about an hour.
And that's going to be at 5 o'clock on the SDPN YouTube channel.
And, yeah, we'll be breaking this all down.
We need some time to think and fester in Steve's case.
And we will come back with our live stream, breaking it all down for you at 5 o'clock.
We'll see you then.
Cynthia Lilligren and David Koff are traded to a former coach.
Why are they together?
Because, well, they're both going to Washington.
Why are they together?
Because they both played under Spencer Carberry.
Where?
In Toronto.
Leafs media bias.
All right, so let's start with Timothy Lilligren,
who was traded for Vegas' fourth rounder in 2026.
So the Sharks get Vegas' fourth rounder in 2026.
Here's the deal.
There will be people that tell you Timothy Lilligren,
especially in the advanced stats community,
actually good player played against a lot of high impact minutes and even those names are getting
fewer and fewer if that's true why did the san jose sharks who have orlov clingberg ferraro
deharney muka medulin and sam dickinson on defense uh trade him in the middle of a playoff race
they're literally in the middle of a playoff race i think it's because they don't like them
Now, listen, anytime you can acquire two players to give you 17 points
combined, you got to do it.
Well, so let's keeping it on me, keeping it on.
I don't know because it's 2026 and we're still doing this with him doing
what talking about him like he's going to win the Norris enough.
He's 26.
He's replacement level.
He's 26 puck moving defense puck moving.
Yeah, he's no good.
The Sharks were like, we're thin on D.
Let's get thinner.
Well, how about...
I mean, that's what happened, Jess.
How about the Leafs had to sign him to a contract,
they gave him $3 million,
and then immediately were like,
we shouldn't have done that.
And they offloaded him after like half a dozen games.
Right-handed.
Right-handed.
Yes.
At a premium, the Sharks still don't want him.
What if Vegas or Washington wanted him more?
So Washington did, and that's why they did it.
So you have a coach who vouches for the player.
that's important and you could slot him right in with rasmus sandin if you wanted his former d
partner um so you have a potential d partner who vouches for him and a coach who vouches for him
i'm not saying he's not an nhl player three million dollars i think is asinine but i wouldn't
be shocked if he ended up signing an extension with the capitals for less and you know getting
another shot i think it's a one-year extension at most getting another shot yeah sure he's a ufa
it's another year in in the league man that's that's great stuff and he's good friends with
rasmus sandy really good friends with rasmus sandy who like this is really stretching reality to the
breaking point but like maybe it makes sandin better because it puts him in his happy place
listen sandin's good though sandin is good and which is why maybe you don't play them together
but he he is good um but like we had to watch an interview today tom wilson talking about the john
carlson trade he was on like the verge of tears alex ovechkin's devastated like the vibes are not
high in washington right now if you can revive them anyway anyhow why not try it if it only
costs you a fourth and maybe you get a player entering his prime uh who could potentially be
a 6'7 guy in your lineup
next season. Why not?
A prime replacement level
player? You just called him a replacement level player.
Yeah, but he is going into his prime.
He's 26. You know what else will
cheer up Ovechkin, Wilson, and others
is the acquiring or the acquisition
of David Kompf, who goes
from Vancouver to Washington
for a sixth rounder.
So it turns out David Kompf was worth something,
just not at $2.5 million.
No, and
you get, I believe it was
Jesper Wieckmann
second rounder and a third
for Nick Dowd, and you paid
what, a sixth round pick to get your Nick Dowd
replacement? That's alright.
I guess. I don't hate that at all, because
the Capitals,
the impression I'm getting from today is
the Capitals are not completely giving
up on the season.
They could still realistically,
hypothetically, make the
playoffs. It's just going to be extremely
hard it's a uh i don't think that this is anything other than spencer carbury going
uh you know what i could see let me let me see if those guys have anything left yeah well dude i
made fun of the fact that they have 17 combined points i'm not even sure if that's true uh it's
not a lot camp has six points i think lilligran has 11 yeah no but but you paid a fourth and a
six to do it again the coach vouches for them uh this coach should have a lot of leash uh in in
washington he's done a good job uh sandin would like him like yeah you do this deal okay i don't
have a problem okay so jesse and steve this is my question i'm seeing um commenters from vancouver
who are pretty pissed about the canucks deadline because you know and we'll talk a little bit more
about it on the live stream but you know best besters name was out there uh evander kane as
of right now is still a cannot i'm surprised by that yeah the kane one is surprised uh like there
are there are some people that are pretty upset maybe they ought to look at toronto about how not
to do a sell-off but um do you i mean the fact that they signed comp for what they did at one
point he was playing second line center for them first first line center first and they got a sixth
rounder out of it and it's a free six it's a free like who cares he's gonna go to washington and
he's gonna go oh yeah i like the deal for both sides because it's such a little low stakes deal
I'm very in favor of giving up
six round picks for NHL players
you never know if a six round pick is going to be anything
you never know if a draft pick is going to be anything
especially a six so go get a
human who you know is going to play in the NHL
and then Vancouver's got an asset
for absolutely nothing
all they do is spend a couple cap dollars
for a couple months they're two capable
depth players who just make too much money
that's the long and short of it
for me like do you want
Lilligren yeah okay sure fine you want
him at three mil oh you know
David Kampf, same thing.
Do you like him in the NHL?
Sure.
2.4?
Oh, ew, no.
Yeah, and with Klingberg and Mookamadoulin on the right side of the defense for San Jose,
there's a little bit of a log jam there.
This is expendable.
It's not going to hurt you that much.
You'll be fine.
Recoup it.
Maybe something else comes down the line, too.
Maybe they have someone with the Barracuda.
Yeah.
Friends of the Barracuda.
Maybe Nick Letty can get a chance.
literally maybe
literally maybe man
I don't know
alright well
listen that is that's your
your I listen I think
everybody was waiting for our video on Lilligren
and Koff and you got it you're welcome
Sam Dickinson you forgot how dare you
yeah Nick Letty's still on
the Barracuda oh no hasn't played with the
Barracuda no I think he's injured
I think he's injured forever I don't think he's ever
playing hockey oh but that's 19 games this year oh he did yeah oh shit okay nick letty played 19
games this year also vinnie day harney erasure oh yeah day harney is in the lineup there you go
yeah anyways sorry oh no are you telling me tim oath lost his job to seaweed man
come on man no i don't think you have a sense of humor after how today went
uh but oh don't worry i haven't gotten my my silly
