Starting point is 00:00:00 You can get the Steve Dangle podcast, extra episode in the VIP tier. But if you go to the VIP ad-free tier, you can get every episode ad-free. Jesse Blake. That's a lot of episodes. Yeah, and when we added the ad-free tier, we had to bump it up so it was consistent on all platforms. It's $6.99 for the ad-free tier, but there's no tiers on Spotify and Apple. That's right. We only have that one tier on both.
Starting point is 00:00:26 But starting today and today's VIP episode this week, we now offer the video version on the Spotify VIP feed. So your YouTube subscription and your Spotify subscription, after you're at the ad-free tier, both have the video version available. And a lot of the complaints on the YouTube membership tier is that you can't watch in the background. Well, if that's the main reason you want the ad free version on for your listening, you can get it now on the plus the video on the Spotify version on the on the audio side of Apple. It's still strictly audio for the ad free and all of the VIP episodes. But if you subscribe on Spotify, you'll also have the video available under the SDP VIP banner. Well, that sounds all well and good, but it's June and hockey's about to stop. And so that means we're not doing VIP episodes anymore, right?
Starting point is 00:01:18 That is incorrect. What? All summer long? We'll be continuing the VIP throughout the summer. You'll get it every... I think we'll just keep dropping on Fridays. We'll get them every Friday throughout the summer. So you can ignore your family throughout the weekend.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Yeah. Nonstop VIP. See those clowns all the time. You know? Who cares? Oh, it's you again. So you get your extra episodes, and then you have your tiers available on the YouTube side,
Starting point is 00:01:43 and then you get your ad-free versions as well. Beautiful. So hit the link in the description. You can find out all three platforms where it's available. You can hit there and you can subscribe. SDP VIP and SDP VIP ad free. Say your line. What?
Starting point is 00:01:57 Oh, it really helps out a small business. Small business. Small. Thumbs up. We're a small business and we appreciate every dollar. Yeah, we do. We do. I'm sweaty.
Starting point is 00:02:07 I am sweaty. Thank you for that thumb, Matty. That's three thumbs up. Jesse didn't give us one. Oh, there you go. All right, Jesse, can we switch to Jesse here? Not yet. jesse's thumb here we go yeah small business jesse
Starting point is 00:02:19 the steve dangle podcast with your host steve dangle adam wild and jesse blake i just want to say this amazing night in stouffville last night at the boston pizza yeah that episode has not come out yet but we recorded an entire it's out it's out oh it's out of this recording yeah what are you it's out it's okay jesse cut me right off i was about to go move your ass but you got it this right now you're listening to this it's like six o'clock oh okay or like it's saturday like oh okay fair fair fair okay so listen i want you to do that i want you to know this keith acton stanley cup winner with the edmonton oilers did i get to hold his stanley cup ring yes i did you did i didn't ask him he took he took it off i said is that your ring and
Starting point is 00:03:09 he's like yeah and then you just started taking it i'm like you don't have to do that he's like No, no, no. Hold it. No, he knows. Steve, you know what that means? What does that mean? Adam's never going to win a cup. What do you mean? That sucks.
Starting point is 00:03:21 You broke the rule. What's the rule? You can't touch a ring. You can't touch the Stanley Cup. I'm the same as touching the cup. So, yeah, you can. So that means you will never win a Stanley Cup. I wasn't expecting to.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Oh, well, some of us have higher ambitions. Okay, well, I don't know. Are you selling, Jesse, are you selling your portion of the company and going to work for the Washington Capitals? I don't want to rule out anything. if so you're a piece you're bad how do you do that how do you take jesse blake's beard private i i don't want to rule out anything so and the pizza box have you ever touched the stanley cup
Starting point is 00:03:50 steve have i ever yes you have i've touched the stanley when i was i've never touched the stanley when i was a little boy when i was a little boy i like poked it with my finger i don't that doesn't count are you that superstitious at the hockey hall of fame you touched it yeah okay that doesn't count as a kid at the hockey hall of fame doesn't count yeah yeah but like i've never been at like party i was at chris draper's in chris draper's backyard and i held the cup you're one of the lucky ones that's right i man you know how heartbroken i was when i went to school and i heard that happened yeah there was this famous we could have met oh yeah that's true steve was a catholic boy you see and i what is the what is the story so yeah we might as well get into that
Starting point is 00:04:29 chris draper who grew up the street from and is also a catholic boy because he went to saint brendan's elementary somebody just tell the story chris draper won multiple cups with the detroit red wings won a gold medal with team canada and used to bring the cup back to his backyard with his parents and uh my babysitter was best friends with his sister and so i actually like went over to their house several times and they were really really cool people like really really nice and he was so gracious especially with kids i was eight yeah oh ten i was ten they invited like the whole neighborhood yeah to come enjoy the stanley cup except for steven yeah did you get an invite or and you didn't go or did you not get an invite no i didn't know until after it happened
Starting point is 00:05:11 and i was very sad gary and tina gary and tina were not up on the neighborhood news apparently they were not reading the scarborough mirror no well and then i gotta like see in the literal newspaper scarborough mirror that the scarborough mirror that uh chris draper brought the cup to the black dog pub and then he did it again and i missed it the second time too and then davante smith pelly wins it in 2018 brings it to the black and announces that he's bringing it to the black dog pub and i'm like i am not missing it a third time and you went and i went did you meet davante um did you go i didn't come and not introduce yourself to davante i didn't meet him there because i i was like too late or something but um anthony stewart was there
Starting point is 00:05:54 and i got to say hi to him someone i used to work at cbc with isn't that your co-worker that was your co-worker yeah but not at the time oh yeah not at the time you just knew him in 2018 no we had two extremely random run-ins um before we started working at um sportsnet another one was uh just at a random bar in whitby no that was with me and wasn't that chris stewart wasn't that his brother i know it was anthony okay it was anthony so it's you me and anthony because i was there yeah oh you were yes i was absolutely i was drinking yes we were it was the three of us talking was it really oh my god i was just like looking at anthony like oh anthony oh former nhler i mean you guys combined to play hundreds of games we were there that's so funny i
Starting point is 00:06:38 drank too much back in the day like um uh yeah so anyway you saw the cup touch it the black touch it on the smith pelly day no okay there you go yes what was the reason what is the what is this you're not supposed to you're not opposed to you're not supposed to touch the stanley cup unless you won the stanley cup or you have no or you're just not gonna win or or or you're a kid i think it's okay and this is a very select group of people if a stanley cup winner invites you to touch the stanley cup then you may touch while keith acton invited me to hold his ring so what are we talking about here you asked he said no i did not ask he was like here it is and this is what i used to stamp my and you're like give me oh yeah it was cool they were my grubby sweaty
Starting point is 00:07:23 paws why is he being a creepy old man about my cup right ahead you can't see it on camera but you see how sweaty my hands are let me get some sweat on that keith yeah yeah it was cool because the the ring actually has all four oilers cups on it because it's the 88 ring oh so it's got so he was a part of all 14 no but it has the ring has it's the fourth oh franchise cup and it's got diamonds in it and it has an oilers logo on the other side it's actually really really nice because i didn't know i didn't know how far back the cup ring thing went it's so like relative to how long the stanley cups have been around which is like 115 years or whatever 60s yeah but they used to do it used to be like a little wedding band like it was nothing big no and also give us your jersey
Starting point is 00:08:07 back we're using it next year his is uh it's right when they started to get big yes and now they're fist size well jesse you have the replica raptors one i do yeah it's so cool it's a monster yeah it's one of my like favorite little uh sports memorabilia things yeah it's uh it's not like the because there's different tiers of the replica you can get and when when the championship happened like the next day you can buy the replica ring and everything and this is like the did you buy model no we got it for free at virgin oh yeah because they brought um who is it leo routins who came leo routins came in or was it jack armstrong it might it might have been jack armstrong we were in a box with leo routins he came in and let us hold his yes yeah and he
Starting point is 00:08:46 invited me to hold the larry o'brien ring i didn't i want to just say that he took it he went he was like here it is and i was like well i'm gonna have to hold that and it's a monster by the way just going around putting sweat on things let me just get sweaty on your metal um so yeah leo was in a box with us and he showed us his real yes his real ring yeah and but jack armstrong came in the studio like a week after the raptors won and they brought around the replica rings and they had a couple that we could take on i can't believe jack was still walking at that point in terms of less like the exhaustion level the workload the promo he would have had to do after the you know they had to fly back do the parade do all the things and then come in and do a bunch of interviews
Starting point is 00:09:23 there's a lot you know that meme about like uh if you give someone a cigarette at a bar or whatever then you basically have a hired security guard for the rest of the night yeah that's me with jack armstrong i'll defend him to the death because one time when i was an intern he offered to buy me dinner and and i and i was like no no i'm okay and he looked like heartbroken oh that he couldn't buy me at like a five dollar foot long from subway that's so nice yeah he's just and i'm like you know what i'm your random guy with a cigarette at the bar i like that if anyone has a fucking problem with jack armstrong you gotta go through me get that garbage out of here um so this keith acton interview that we did because keith owns
Starting point is 00:10:04 that boston pizza he's the franchisee um uh when you go back and you watch it because i know some people are like they just listen to their three episodes and they're used to us in the studio whatever i highly encourage you to check this out because for a couple reasons number one keith is has got great stories if you're a leaf fan you gotta hear what keith says about craig berube oh man what a great story i what a great story i asked him about him like not realizing that not only did they play together but they were line mates yes he tells a really really good story and then if you're a canadians fan uh which i know we have a lot of canadians fans we're lucky enough to have you guys watching too you gotta hear his story about gila floor keith acton
Starting point is 00:10:46 was Guy Lafleur's centerman yeah which we were all like and he's like yeah I played up with Steve Shutt and Guy Lafleur and I was like whoa uh he's and he tells a great story about Guy on the bench he's my idea of Canadian making it oh yeah he's he's coached for a Canadian team and played on two Canadian teams won a cup won a cup um and owns a restaurant where he hangs up his own jersey and photos of him drinking out of the stanley cup he put on his own oilers jersey that he got out of a case that i think was hanging in the kitchen yes yeah like yeah made it it was cool made it and then the third thing is obviously if you're an oiler fan and you're feeling a little bit sad uh he does he tells some great little anecdotal stuff about wayne gretzky and mark
Starting point is 00:11:36 messier and some of the other guys on those teams why gretzky was never able to win after he left that's right yeah and and actually and this transitions us perfectly into game three is able to talk about how his admiration for connor mcdavid but also you can sort of tell his belief that the oilers are really in tough against the florida panthers and it's for one reason it's the supporting cast man you know i i've i've watched the stanley cup final every year and every year no matter what happens i'm like either team could win this thing i'm taking nothing away from the oilers nothing you can't they're an unbelievable team for all their faults like no team is perfect um for all their faults here they are in the stanley cup
Starting point is 00:12:25 final the florida panthers are as close to a perfect team as i can remember they're so stupidly preposterously in tune with each other like i i know their free agent situation's very tricky i think i think reinhardt's going to be back i don't think that's going to be a problem tour probably will not be there's an article in the athletic about that montour is a problem outside of montour like it's funny the panthers haven't even won this cup yet i mean they're a win away but you never know oilers could be the first team since 1942 toronto may police detroit red wings let's just say to beat the detroit red wings the detroit red wings piece crap um it could happen but uh like i'm already thinking ahead to how does anyone beat them next
Starting point is 00:13:18 year oh yeah they're they're because they're not blowing by opponents like like i yesterday in the cup check video i sort of went through like the past few cup winners and how they won yep uh the vegas golden knights were this unmovable group of dudes who were bigger than you and they were really good at hockey but their identity is we're bigger than you and we're gonna run you over and also have you met our friend john and colorado overwhelmed you um crazy speed crazy action crazy intensity tampa bay had a little bit of everything but i think they were just more skilled than you they had more firepower than you and you can keep going back and i'm not going to do every damn team um the panthers the 1977 montreal canadians oh you know ken dryden and net yeah uh monopoly on
Starting point is 00:14:20 all the quebecois players is pretty good that's turned out to be an all right deal turned out to be pretty cool yeah the panthers are the most cohesive unit i can think of ever like even more than the 2011 bruins that was a cohesive it was a cohesive unit that was a really interesting roster it was kind of like a mosaic like we have this section of a roster that beats your ass and we have this section of the roster that skates you into the dirt and we have designated sasha barkov patrice bergeron and you know or vice versa but the panthers scored like three goals yesterday because they telekinetically knew where each other was going to be and the oilers not really by their fault can't they can't keep up mentally like the the mike smith giveaway
Starting point is 00:15:13 it's a giveaway it's bad it's no good but if holloway stays on tarasenko it doesn't happen or the chances of it happening are reduced tarasenko read it holloway didn't um the two on one where Barkov scored it's not even a bad pinch from Ekholm really it Reinhardt and Barkov read it I think I think it was Reinhardt to Barkov to Rodriguez back to Barkov if I'm not mistaken um Panthers read it Oilers didn't right it's just play after play after play of the Panthers reading something the Oilers didn't you said Mike Smith giveaway by the way did I say Mike Smith you did just now just now like the first one that you talked about i can't wait till she's sleep trained dude i think we know what you mean the goalie stewart skinner that's right jeff skinner
Starting point is 00:16:07 as i called him i called him that yesterday oh did you okay yeah it's hard it is hard you say some guy's name the vast majority of the time um anyway um it it's not about the oilers being crap and like Darnell Nurse had another play where he didn't look very good and he could have made another decision but it's not that the Panthers are more skilled than you they have very skilled players but it's not about that they're not overwhelming it's not that they're faster than you they have speed but they're not overwhelming they are smarter than any team in the National Hockey League I've got such a respect for them uh after all this like we we painted them into this violence corner and they are very violent um not tough violent um they're the
Starting point is 00:16:56 smartest hockey team in the world there you go jesse yeah it's a master class on on how to play hockey and my favorite because i had to go back and watch the game this morning because we were doing the thing from bp and with steve yellen all that stuff you can't really get into the minutiae of the game and everything yeah watching back like my favorite goal from yesterday is the first one where uh sam reinhardt gets the goal but that whole play is driven by sasha barkov being unrelenting on evan bouchard the play starts from their own blue line where bouchard just has the puck in the offensive zone by the blue line you know and he's gonna like make a play he's gonna do whatever but barkov's on his ass and no other team plays like this at all moments of the
Starting point is 00:17:44 game and whenever the panthers scored that game it wasn't like through a bunch of zone time it was through hey we made a great play one defensive play and we turned it around we made it into a goal you can confirm this but the highlights on nhl.com for all four panthers goals begins in their end yeah i'm pretty sure all of them do yeah every goal it's insane so you're talking about barkov on bouchard which is true but the matchup i was looking at was forsling and mcdavid because mcdavid's trying to do his mcdavid thing and and forsling's on him like shit on velcro and the puck goes the other way and mcdavid doesn't pay forsling the same favor no but like you actually have the perfect screen on your screen right there i was gonna go back actually
Starting point is 00:18:29 no no but this this is perfect this is what i tried to talk about in the cup check video is reinhardt's coming in and mcdavid's sort of in this no man's land and he like daintily puts his stick on him i didn't realize this was four on four but uh maybe that's why he lost him because you know it wasn't five on five and you you miss your assignment a little bit but he just sort of lamely puts his stick on him uh but like there's a man there for that there's a man there for reinhardt and it's ekholm uh no one is on forsling at the point and forsling does what all good offensive players do i know he's a defenseman but he does what all good offensive players do and he makes you forget he exists he got a goal against the rangers like this
Starting point is 00:19:11 last round where it's him and like 20 feet of white ice in front of him just be very very quiet and he and he sneaks in and then it's a 50 50 shot reinhardt gets his stick on the puck or ekholm ties him up but you you can't give forsling this much time and space the play i'm talking about from the rangers series he just cranked the thing into the net also i think of note just to support both of you here is that the oilers had had consecutive power plays leading into this four and four they're the the stat that they showed in the broadcast yesterday i pointed up in the tv and several people who were there gasped because they had i think it was like five four and four power play goals or whatever in their series which what is that like the leafs had one um
Starting point is 00:20:00 they're over 10 through three games 10 power play opportunities through three stanley cup final games is not bad and not a one not a one if they performed average like just a 20 power play that's average-ish they'd have two more goals that's a big swing in the series can't even get that i you look at the roster up and down there isn't a hole in the panthers roster where you're like oh they should improve on this spot in the lineup you know you love the fourth line you love the third line you love the second line you love the whole forward group and it's it's a credit to bill zito and going out and getting the the extra players to fill out those gaps in the rosters uh early on it's a credit to him for um doing the waiver wire you know being yeah bringing
Starting point is 00:20:46 four things a waiver wire pickup like that's excellent scouting that's excellent gming and getting tarasenko getting okpozo like all they did was go to stanley cup final last year lose learn lessons improve on the team come back be the best team in the league like that's that that was just the formula and for the for this team here and i i love giving all the credit to all these players and you need to throw in bobroski as well because he's lived up to every dollar amount that he gets paid oh he's been the best goalie these playoffs he's been the best goalie in this series and i believe right now as it sits he has the highest save percentage ever in a stanley cup uh final wow he's going to set the record if he has just a a really good game
Starting point is 00:21:30 in game number four and they close it out he'll have the record for highest save percentage ever in a stanley cup final and that dude has just been another excellent part of this incredible team that he's still allowed four goals though the other thing i want to ask is just like okay what changed that much about the florida roster this year to last like it the main characters are still here except nick cousins is just not playing every game anymore because they're deeper and you have i think they have uh like what is it uh like oliver eckman larson who's old oliver eckman larson right yeah he's older not what he used to be like he's not tarasenko is an ad yeah but he's third line right he's like but you look back half of prime
Starting point is 00:22:17 slash beginning the back half but my my thing is my point is is that when they the people that they added like nobody was expecting huge things i don't think from nico micola or dimitri kulikov or micola yeah okay but not that you don't like them yeah i'm saying like is anybody expecting these types of performances and they are finding them from guys that uh no offense to luster ryan but he's been really great well i think they have some underrated players yeah and you're sitting cousins and lomberg and and these guys that are two fourth liners who i think would be an improvement on nearly every team in the league um like lomberg's a great play yeah he i can't believe they sit the guy and nick cousins uh uh ended the leaf season last year yeah and he's not
Starting point is 00:23:07 even playing it's crazy he's ended careers i think he's yeah probably um but he uh like i think the panthers became more cohesive so they've had more time together and the reason i brought up the age thing is uh they've taken a step like lundell is young yes a little bit older and a little bit better yeah booster enon a little bit older a little bit better um i think instead of having a rotating cast like nick cousins is either on the fourth line or on the second line um instead of that they found like rodriguez was a really underratedly crazy signing for the panthers yes because you look at their their top unit is um verhagey barkov reinhardt they had all those guys last year reinhardt has obviously taken a massive step from last year and he's more in tune
Starting point is 00:24:03 with those guys he's just been with them longer he's no longer reinhardt who was traded from the sabers he's sam reinhardt florida panther right second line instead of uh kachuk bennett and maybe cousins it's kachuk bennett rodriguez forever and ever amen third like how many times have they even changed their lines i haven't seen a lot of shifting of that and that's interesting keith acton brings that up in the interview yeah and he said one of the things and i'm not gonna blow anything crazy like i'm not blowing the great stories here but he did say you see a lot of shifting in the Oilers lineups and he said but with a team like the Panthers they knew with about 15 games to go in the regular season this is my role these are what the lines are pretty much
Starting point is 00:24:46 going to be and that's what we're rolling with because that's these are the best combinations and they've basically stuck to it you don't see a ton of adjustments from with Paul Maurice well and not not to make everything about the Leafs but I know a lot of Leaf fans listen to the show like last night watching them it sort of made me think about them so that 15 games to go thing how many games did matthew nize have before his first playoff run with the leafs 10 i think it was three oh really that was way no it's caulfield had 10 caulfield had 10 yeah the lesser caulfield the better caulfields with toronto this that's right well and then you're watching the fourth line go out there for the panthers and play meaningful effective minutes in the final 10
Starting point is 00:25:27 minutes of a third period where they're leading we'd kill keep for that for putting out a fourth line what are you doing putting the fourth line they have a good fourth line they have a crazy kevin stendland as long as we're talking about additions dude uh like you talk about irrationally loving role players that's a great role player that's your guy really really good is that your man well he i i feel like he was with the blue jackets minor league team and when we were doing the mock draft for seattle i said they should get him because he had like decent numbers in the minors and he's six five i'm sorry why don't we want this player and instead seattle opted to pick someone who they just let walk and uh then he ended up in winnipeg and then florida winnipeg
Starting point is 00:26:11 had him last year that's right he was in winnipeg so like again columbus also fumbled that bag i just want to throw that of course they did as they're columbus do you don't get to where they are uh by fluke um they made a lot of great additions what what's blowing my mind though because jesse made such a good point before the playoffs even began i think it was around the trade deadline and i haven't been able to stop thinking about it so you talked about having a number one defenseman and teams who win the stanley cup have a number one defenseman so i went i did i can do this quickly so don't grow now but um all the teams of the cap era so you go back to 2006 the hurricanes are a definite outlier because their top three defensive goals uh uh point
Starting point is 00:27:02 scores were frantizak cabriolet brett hedekin and aaron ward that's an anomaly the next year to fill in for the lack of stars they had on defense the ducks had two uh with niedemeyer pronger oh wait you have nick lidstrom oh nine you have chris letang 10 you have keith 11 you have chara um 12 you have doughty 11 or 13 keith 14 doughty 15 keith those two teams make it real easy letang letang john carlson uh john carlson on his best couple of years yes yeah he was unbelievable prime like 30 goal john carlson alex petrangelo headman headman macar petrangelo again who's the panthers marquee guy like my tour i think no i think eklat forsling like it's a pair the pairing itself so like but like in terms of marquee guys and like that i i said latang three
Starting point is 00:28:06 times for the penguins i'm pretty sure during one of the runs he like wasn't even there yeah he played like three games or something he was injured as an aside so ron hainsey why did i think john carlson scored 30 goals he only ever had mike green mike green the other right-handed thank you sir uh ace apologies for that but carlson was like a 70 point guy yes he was 75 probably what you're thinking 70 75 71 assist machine i want to i want to know what you guys think of this no but just to finish off steve's point um the way the panthers are doing it is pretty unique in that they don't have the number one who stands out but that i think that makes them stronger that's a crazy top three yeah of uh montour the depth yeah oh we else their third
Starting point is 00:28:46 pairing like why we underrated that the cap screws up everyone's perception of everybody just because oliver eckman larson should not have been making eight doesn't mean him at what is he making like three yeah because the canucks are still paying half right yeah and the canucks probably used him in too big of a role as well and now he's on this team where it's like hey remember how you were like one of the best defensemen in the nhl like five seconds ago yeah um here's a third pair job can you do that and he's like yeah i can't actually when we get to the other stuff like that's how i feel about darnell nurse right now i'm like john you're not nine to five but it might be five if you're a five six million dollar player and you're playing
Starting point is 00:29:28 in the middle of a lot in the middle of the pairings like you're fine yeah i think there's a world where he ages like tyler myers yes where where they put him into a lesser role and it's like oh why did we ever think this guy was bad because we played him too much please put him with a mobile defenseman please don't put him with cody cece why do you think that guys that matters that matters um matters and uh just to clear to clean up the boborovsky uh stat i was given out about his highest save percentage and stay like a final history he lost it with the third goal so now now he's he currently sits sixth of
Starting point is 00:30:04 the best all the time but he can move back up you know with a couple more saves so we'll I want to see if you can get to the it's the 972 that Patrick Waugh had that's the all-time record that's Montreal yeah it's the
Starting point is 00:30:18 avalanche 95 90 so against the Panthers against the Panthers yeah that was that four-game sweep he set the all-time record for save percentage in a Stanley Cup final so boroski if he if he like stands on his head for 30 saves or something he can get back out for that 974 but forget rogy veschel but boroski had the record uh through at least the
Starting point is 00:30:36 first two goals in the game and then he lost it with uh the last very cool the cap era record is nine six seven yeah tim thomas tim thomas so boroski's right here at 955 uh with his that's can we just talk about how much thomas deserved that con smith because he had a 967 and still lost three games how that's a great boy he had a 960 stopping 96.7 percent of the time amongst everyone in the top seven until the last amongst everyone in the top 17 he's the only one to go to game seven wow that in the top 17 that's nuts and patrick wad devils yeah that makes sense it's like the heart of the dead puck era you get wah versus broder and the stanley cut at their height yeah not enough is made about that there there should be a 30 for 30 on that goaltending
Starting point is 00:31:35 matchup it was it was a great series broder broder um uh wah seven games guys that's crazy i know i forgot that even happened it's one of those things and then before that it was broder belfor you like at the time before that it was belfor uh hashing like do you it's at the time do you realize what you're watching you know you know what i mean that's those are the three best goaltending matchups and i think in nhl history for consecutive cups look at that the more like okay uh over the years it's been like man i watched you in high school yeah now it's like i've been watching you since i was a kid and now it's i've been watching you my whole life and i'm like what oh my god um like when we talk about stuff from the early 2000s and late 90s like
Starting point is 00:32:28 there's people listening right now who are like yes old man and what about them yeah well i don't what you're talking about chart back up for just a quick second isn't it funny that those four goaltenders broder hashik wa and uh and belfor are 15 16 17 and 18 right there on the oh i know and like consecutive well then by the way dominic hashik who was in the 2002 uh stanley cup is at 14 again the the the 15 and 16 uh are two guys who played against each other that year yeah like that's that's so stupid um anyway we're getting all i want to bring it back to this well we can get caught up it's a podcast now um jason york friend of the show friend of steve uh from ice surfing yes um so so i want to i want to start this by saying that um you know there's so much
Starting point is 00:33:23 that advanced stats can tell us but sometimes when you just simplify how you look at things and that's how players look at things yeah this tweet stuck out to me checking in on the ice time this evening zero panthers forwards averaged over a 45 second shift barkov who wasn't real again 43 seconds usual suspects for a minute for edmonton all over a minute again you can win like that in junior hockey but not in the nhl playoffs and again i think when you're a cohesive team you get to play efficiently i also think that that when keith acton said that if connor mcdavid wins the cup he'll be the superstar of all superstars that's what he said last yesterday on the show oh yeah he's like because his supporting cast is not it's not the same as
Starting point is 00:34:10 some of these other guys have you give mcdavid the panthers like oh they tear they nobody'd ever beat them they should the oilers should still be on your cup contenders list every year until that man retires because like sorry or at least for toronto in 26 well i i i keep looking at him and again i'm not trying to take things away from the oilers but i'm definitely doing that with what i'm about to say if you just plunk the panthers decor onto the oilers i think they sweep the playoffs i don't think they lose a game like yeah i really don't i think that's fair like uh especially with bob playing the way he's playing he's preposterous preposterous like honestly you take dry sidle off the oilers and replace him with lomberg but the trade is you get the
Starting point is 00:35:02 panthers decor i think they probably still win out i think no team takes them deeper than six like it's gonna feel weird if this dude never wins one but like a part of what this run is making me realize with mcdavid is he's got so many kicks at the can like yeah he's gonna be right back next year well this could easily be the cup final next year yeah of course of course listen last year's cup final was halfway this year's and we all thought vegas was going deep this year it just sometimes happens that you don't well this i mean it feels like every year the oilers are like all right here we go and every second year apparently because that's how it works because of the cap the knights are going to be like hello housekeeping and they show up and they just
Starting point is 00:35:51 clean everyone's clock with the jason york stat it's very important to point out it's he it's average average ice yeah not they they some of those players had shifts over a minute no i'm just and just make a point um so that's important then he didn't go far enough because no panthers player like he said forwards no panthers player had a shift over or averaged over 47 seconds on the ice even the defense even the defense if you go through that and so like if you're a leaf fan you might want to look at that we are we burning our guys out a little bit it shows paul maurice's uh the ability for them to just roll lines you know it's like you to have that as a coach to have the trust in every single player on your on your team to put out there like
Starting point is 00:36:35 it's very unique to the panthers if the oilers tried to do that they'd lose seven one like they The Panthers do it because they can. They have the personnel. Exactly. The Oilers, as good a team as they are, they can't do that. And it's been good enough to beat three Western Conference teams.
Starting point is 00:36:51 They beat, I constantly talked about how deep the Dallas Stars are. They're so deep and deep and deep. And the Oilers beat them. And it didn't even take seven games to beat them. They're extremely good. I worry that if the Panthers win this series, you never know,
Starting point is 00:37:10 um i i hope the hockey world and oilers fans don't take the wrong lesson from it it's not that they're bad there's holes in the roster but the panthers are fucked if if we're doing the referendum on the other season which i think it's it's pretty early i think i know i think which can be done now because you do series is over there's jesse thinks it's totally over he was talking shit the whole stream it's it was like two one and he's like it's over i think for official purposes we cannot do the referendum yet but but give us a piece done but it's but it's been a very good series this team was dead they were dead in october they were dead early november and since early november this was the best regular season team in the national
Starting point is 00:37:56 hockey like they they did it they ran show and they got to the playoffs and then you got to the stanley cup final this is a very successful season and as the florida panthers illustrated from last year this season you need to lose to get good and this is now your test you know what it takes to get there and you know what it takes to compete in a stanley cup final and you didn't have enough to beat florida but you take these lessons lessons and you move forward i think it's only up again for the oilers next season where they'll be back in the situation where they're competing for a stanley cup this was a very successful season i think a lot of people are spinning the narrative oh you got your ass beat by the panthers and it's a terrible no you won
Starting point is 00:38:32 three rounds before this you beat the team that steve kept saying is the best team in hockey like be very proud of beating a tough dallas team you beat up vancouver who was a little injured you know it's you're facing their third but it took me seven years it was a billion canucks team that was a hard-fought series and then you took care of business when you should have against the kings like great playoff run you know what mcdavid's capable of doing at the playoffs when he's at his height you know what you need to fill out in your defense core you know you need depth scoring you knew you know you need cane to not be injured like there's a lot of lessons to take uh from this season and be very proud of what you accomplished it's a great oilers run this year the one
Starting point is 00:39:10 adjustment i think the others can make is they keep trying to do these like cross slot passes in the high slot stop yeah it's not that working it's not there um and i know it works for you it's not there and a lot of the focus has been on dry sidle you could probably count the amount of times i've said zach hyman's name in game two and three on max two hands and uh half of them were probably where's zach hyman i think and it's not about i don't think he's playing poorly it's just they've taken him out without the other weapons on the team you can isolate on zach hyman a little bit more oh yeah and oh there's so many good defensive players on the panthers that if just one of them just takes control and shuts down hyman in front of the net then it's it's game
Starting point is 00:39:54 he had a tap in in game one a tap in if that goes in who knows i mean i mean hockey i know i know david had a couple last night where you're like how didn't that go in and it's bobrovsky i mean yeah he still did have one good chance um and the mcleod save uh when it was four three what do you do was that the one where mcdavid tried to bank it off him and it came out in front and then he saved i think so that's the same one yeah yeah that was unbelievable there's like i don't know three four minutes left i don't remember how much time yeah um it's just one of those ones where you're like how the hell didn't that go in he makes the save and you're like maybe his foot was in the net no it was right there on the line like what what i was saying um in the video last
Starting point is 00:40:40 night like caps fans were able to look back at i think it was game two late in game two brayden holtby makes a save and they call it the save um you know penguins fans if i talk about the save uh they're probably thinking about mark andre flurry on nick lidstrom 2009 and all that fan bases have the save if you're a florida panthers fan how is that not the save that's the damn save now you gotta win in order for it to be we were talking about them like they're they have the cup above their head right now if you want to crown them the crown crown their ass they haven't won the cup yet okay um but if they win the damn thing that's the save that game goes overtime ah i have a hard time the deserve to win a meter no it doesn't make it doesn't mean anything 59
Starting point is 00:41:29 in the oilers favor so at least they can feel proud about that yeah score effects but it also like drew brought that up on the screen uh stream and 59 is down from the number i read so like the panthers and another thing that i noticed about them as long as we're gushing about this frigging perfect hockey team is um you know how much it kills me to say that dude i know um but uh they never parked the bus they just attack and attack and attack and attack that's got to be the most exhausting team to play they're they're on you these deserved a widow meter also doesn't take into account how the panthers score their goals because if you had got a lot of pressure you get a lot of high danger scoring chances all that stuff your meter is going to go up but the
Starting point is 00:42:14 panthers don't need all that they need you to make one mistake they need to be relentless on the forecheck and just turn the puck the other way up the ice and score one goal and that's what they don't spend a lot of time doing all the nonsense that doesn't matter that can drive up the meter you know so it doesn't really make sense less effort per goal than every team they don't have to friggin they've done it without could chuck be in otherworldly no he has they don't need that Although him complaining about getting punched in the face last night was hilarious. Others have kind of kicked his
Starting point is 00:42:48 ass a little bit, but like, oh! Yeah, no. What are we doing? Also, shout out Evan Rodriguez, who was a July first signing last offseason. You add that piece. You add a guy who came up short with the Penguins. He was on those Penguin teams that didn't win.
Starting point is 00:43:04 He was on the lowly Buffalo teams. He was on a Colorado Avalanche team that had high expectations and didn't win. then you bring him in and he's he's been great on the first line he had 16 goals 39 assists last year and then he signs for three mil he has 12 goals and 39 uh points sorry 16 goals 39 points the year before 12 12 goals 39 points this year but in 11 more games and then the playoffs show up six goals he's half his goal total um and 12 points in 20 games yeah there's a six goals compared to how many 12 in the regular season dude he's had a string of good playoffs so um
Starting point is 00:43:45 six and six in 20 this year with colorado last year again despite only having 39 points he had a goal and five points in seven games the year before with pittsburgh even though pittsburgh wasn't that great he had three goals five points in seven games and then uh pittsburgh the year before he only had one assist in two games i don't know what happened there but this is the the string that i just read to you it's the only playoff action of his career he spent all those years in buffalo never sniffed the playoffs and then the second he got there started kicking ass yeah and you got to think about his teammates you know he gets crosby he gets mckinnon yep and then now he's in florida and he knows he knows what it takes to compete he knows he's had good teammates
Starting point is 00:44:26 and he's been killing on the first line and he's 30 as a role player yeah going on 31 in july like this and this isn't like some up a couple couple more years at three million bucks too not bad oh good good is it a multi-year deal it's a three year three times three oh um who is your consummate trophy pick Bobrovsky or Barkov oh man Bobrovsky you're talking about making history and save percentage and in Stanley Cups all time over all of the goalies we just talked about Bobrovsky but you look at what Barkov has done throughout all four rounds and yeah that's about him shutting down Panarin and Pasternak. But the Kahn-Smythe
Starting point is 00:45:05 is like and I get the Barkov thing. What tends to... You're asking me who I think is going to win. If you had to vote, who are you giving it to? The way people vote is what's spectacular. No, what's your vote? Well, my vote is still
Starting point is 00:45:21 Bobrovsky because none of what Barkov did matters if Bobrovsky is not making those saves. It doesn't matter. They don't win. They don't win if he's not playing like this. i'm gonna say i'm gonna say barkov because you're lame because i'm lame uh no and the reason i'm saying barkov is like again you know how i pointed out tim thomas with the bruins like watching that whole run you're like all right the bruins are good but he stole it like he
Starting point is 00:45:50 stole the entire thing um like that they lost a bunch of games for uh they lost three in round one swept round two they lost three in round three and they lost three in round four like that's that's nine losses over the course of a uh successful stanley cup playoff run uh but he he stole a lot of that bob has been i think big when he needed to be he stole the game here or there barkov's just a two-way force that is as good if not better i know i'm about to be set on fire um than anything i've ever seen patrice bergeron do i don't think you'd be set on fire for that oh you don't know must you i just said someone's better than patrice bergeron you don't think i'm about to get arsoned well maybe maybe it might be maybe okay all right i just i think
Starting point is 00:46:48 he's a smidge of articular i mean if they i i think if you can't make at least the comparison that they've been similar uh then you haven't been watching those are the two like if anybody gets mad at you and goes he's not even close then you know they haven't been watching since boston was eliminated i that's how you can always tell i'm like ah you haven't watched oh you haven't watched my my ballot would be barkov bobrovsky and then like a toss-up between bennett and forsling oh for that i like forsling that's a very outside the box pick i think it's a hipster yeah for a defenseman to get that it's being difficult all right jesse uh barkov or bobrovsky i think i lean bobrovsky and then to barkov i don't like i don't i don't believe if
Starting point is 00:47:33 you pick either one i don't think you're wrong but i think i'd lean but it depends on it also depends on how game four goes like if barkov puts up a couple more points and he has like a great another great defensive performance and maybe Bobrovsky let it's a five seven game or something maybe that just sways me right but um right now I lean Bobrovsky as my first pick and bark off my second Jesse great point Adam you're being obtuse oh am I uh I texted Adam yesterday it is going to be Bobrovsky it is going to be we don't know that we do it's going to be Bobrovsky because he's made spectacular saves and that's how they vote I think we honestly don't know no I think Adam's right about that i'm 100 tim thomas was a ninth round draft pick of the quebec nordique
Starting point is 00:48:19 tim thomas's run that adam you're talking about documenting things that's one run that needs to be just looked at uh the problem is if you wanted to do a 30 for 30 on tim thomas you better be prepared for some interesting quotes he'd shoot the tv yeah yeah uh that dude's 50 the way he peaked in his later years not until 0506 even though he was drafted in 1994 you know he didn't start he started 38 games in 0506 goes on that miraculous cup run and then decides hey i'm gonna take a break from hockey comes back with that weird year with the panthers and then that weird eight game stint with the dallas stars to describe tim thomas's career for those of you who don't get it but he his nhl debut was nine years after he was drafted and then
Starting point is 00:49:08 his first regular job was 12 years after he was drafted tim thomas's career was like if matt tompkins became the starter of the lightning one of vesna and a cup yeah like that's what it's it's like this journeyman who like went for this long trek through the desert and didn't he take the job from like john graham who was a very highly touted bruins goaltending can you can you click oh 506 jess i don't remember what year it was but the bruins were a mess in net yeah there it is so they had in raycroft raycroft toyvenin was supposed to be the goalie of the future yeah i remember that uh raycroft was miserable the leafs traded for that oh i'll never forgive him you stink 819 after with an 879 after those numbers look at the other two guys you big friggin bunch of
Starting point is 00:50:06 idiots oh i'm gonna beat them up oh and they gave you two grass like took a rask fight me fight me now the bruins what and then he goes and works for the and then he goes and works for the bruins fight me after school last question with the florida panthers i know you're trying to move on uh who are you most happy for to get uh stanley cup akpozo and i said that as soon as the the third round ended i was like i want kyle akpozo to win a cup because he played for the shitty islanders in the worst islanders years in their franchise history under under garth snow and what was that owner's name robert something thomas no no i don't know um that was craft no sarver no uh that if you go back and look at those islanders years that's like those islanders
Starting point is 00:50:55 years are why tavaris left dude they're horrible like islanders fans i know you get salty about this and i understand it but the reality is that it's not john's fault that the team was that poorly run for that long and it's not yours either don't rag on john for leaving you almost did yeah a hundred percent like and then and then uh and and and then he goes and he's like okay finally i'm a free agent i can go anywhere i want buffalo looks like a really good spot they just got jack eichel and he ends up with that and then ends up i believe he had a career threatening health issue not like not even an injury there was like a health problem yeah i can't remember like this guy has gone through it man and this is the first time in his career he's ever got
Starting point is 00:51:36 past the second round it's a miracle he's still playing it is oh it's a hundred percent that the fact that he didn't retire three four years ago yeah like he it was that bad i don't know what it was but it was bad i can't remember and and so i don't know man kyle akpozo for me is absolutely and i know bobrovsky's going for hall of fame and i i get it i get it kyle akpozo baby you got to root for that guy um i'd love to go with an underdog here uh i'm not uh sometimes it's great um when we hype someone up unreasonably and they meet it and for me that's aaron ekblad now i've dealt with him a few times and i like him very much so i'm just happy yeah and you just went through the number one defenseman thing and you didn't immediately say akblad well it's him
Starting point is 00:52:22 and forsling did he live up to it no it's not even your number one defense forsling is the mobile guy there akblad is the fuck around and find out i'll beat the shit out of you uh guy not your number one defenseman uh that is my number one pairing and they are two peas in a pod they are a package deal um so i would be very happy for aaron ekblad who's been hyped up since he was 15 years old exceptional status in the ohl and even when he was picked first overall like people were griping about it uh now in fairness um leon dry saddle went third but no one was really talking about dry saddle going first um that i can remember it was 10 years ago um there's another guy who's faced like he's had a number of concussion issues there were times where it looked like his career
Starting point is 00:53:09 might be because they're not anything too i mean yeah that was a world cup yeah world cup i want to say he missed a bunch of the world cup um i think he would have been with the young guns doesn't matter let's keep going yeah well is that that's your pick and no you guys are missing an obvious you get one okay well you better say the one i'm thinking of no no you get one then the The next guy should have been. Ekblad is my one. Great. And we just wanted to know why.
Starting point is 00:53:38 There it is. That was it. My pick, Roberto Luongo. There it is. Thank you. Why didn't you pick him? Because I couldn't pick two. Because you're a frigging totalitarian.
Starting point is 00:53:49 Roberto Luongo. Not an OG Panther drafted by the Islanders and then moved to the Panthers, but all of those years in Florida. And the worst years in Florida. Do you know that damn trade? It's terrible. The darkest years in Florida where he made the playoffs once. His entire tenure with the Florida Panthers.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Is that because he sucked, Jesse? And they lost. And it's not because Luongo sucked. It's because the team around him was awful. And then they lose in the first round. And that's the only playoffs he gets in Florida. But he had all those successful years in Vancouver. Couldn't get it done.
Starting point is 00:54:22 Gets right to the cup final. They don't do it. And then now he gets to do it as an exec. And it's really cool to see. I think the two of you are hipsters. it's nice that you pick Luongo but picking Luongo is not picking a player. He picked Ekblad. What do you mean
Starting point is 00:54:35 two of us? Well, because he was going to pick Luongo too. Yeah, he didn't. I picked Ekblad. Yeah, but then I didn't. So who's going to get a Stanley Cup? Pick a player, Jesse. You're being obsessive. No, that was the question! Pick a player. What about player Luongo? I don't like it. He used to play. I think he's sidestepping. That's what I
Starting point is 00:54:51 think. I'll sidestep my foot in here. Yeah, I'm just saying. And neither of you said Bobrovsky either. Just if Steve did his thing where he names like five guys he would you know Forsling was a waiver pickup and and you know
Starting point is 00:55:05 that's a great reason that's a great reason we shouted out and you know we shouted out Rodriguez at the beginning of this segment and then you guys went back to it I pulled all the stats on Rodriguez and then you guys moved on then you went
Starting point is 00:55:22 back to it and you're like you know friggin this guy and I was like okay we're gonna go back to freaking right evan rodriguez again all right here we go can i give you something interesting please what is it that let's find out let's play a game everybody i was calling you both all right adam yes let's play a game interesting rating i'm gonna give it i'm gonna give no no you gotta hear it and then and then you'll oh i thought we were doing oh you want you want to guess i want to guess how you okay yeah i think it's like a i think it's a solid eight out of ten oh you think it's gonna be yeah i think it is gonna be interesting i
Starting point is 00:55:55 look at that face yeah yeah no this should be up for failure yeah this is gonna be jesse what do you think no i think you said the bar right i think we're gonna get an eight out of ten interesting on the interesting rating so is that like oh that's cool yeah okay so if it falls short you fail all right if we're like ah that was really a six sell this but if it's a nine it's like oh you exceeded expectations give us an eight out of ten on the interesting bar you deserve to interesting meter there you go the deserved interesting meter there we go we got there that's that's a podcast title yeah let's go let's let's do it uh you glossed over this like it was nothing roberto luongo was a goalie for the new york islanders and then they traded him
Starting point is 00:56:37 to the florida panthers where he was a lifer do you know about that trade and how awful it was no steve tell me so the new york islanders who just drafted luongo fourth overall in 1997 in 2000 they traded for mark parish and oleg kavasha and they got rid of only yokanen and roberto luongo and you only okanen i think is or was the all-time leading panther scorer uh Oli Okunin, so Luongo was the fourth pick in 97. Okunin was the third pick in 97. So they traded the third and fourth picks from the draft three years prior. Yeah, but they traded the third and fourth pick from two years prior
Starting point is 00:57:23 for Mark Parrish and Oli Kavasha. And here's the funny thing, is they did the same thing when they traded Spezza and Zidane O'Chara for Alexi Yashin. All those guys could have been played together. And the reason they traded Luongo is I think they thought Rick DiPietro was the man. they did but like you drafted luongo fourth overall 97 there's your goalie of the future and and then you go draft you stay shit which is why you then in 2000 have the first overall pick and you get rick di pietro and uh like rick di pietro is the reason for like almost all parts
Starting point is 00:57:58 of the collective bargaining uh bargaining agreement now oh because of that 15 year he had a 15 year contract you lunatics yeah for a goalie who at that point in his career was already injury prone yeah i thought it was interesting all right adam you know what i will give it an eight out of ten that was good that was a good old mark yeah mark parishola crevasse yeah that's good that was good oh okay jesse what do you give it what do you know i agree all right now what is the comment section you deserve to interesting yeah i deserve to deserve to interesting right on the money i think this is the birth of a new bit is steve gonna say something interesting here is just gonna be some minutiae
Starting point is 00:58:37 Could somebody make a graphic, too? Yeah, a meter with the Deserved to Interesting. Matty, you're on it. Matty, you're going to do that? Yeah. All right. You're going to Deserved to Interesting meter? I'll put it on it.
Starting point is 00:58:49 Yeah. All right. All right. Now, can we please move on? Or do you guys really want to go deep into Evan Rodriguez one more time? Yeah, let's do it. Bill Zito. Let me bring him up.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Good dude. Okay. I had to move off of this. What do you think of the owner? Let's keep moving up. Really low key, the Bill Zito cam is great. the bill zito can't like no no we're moving on you were moving i thought we were no we're moving on we're moving on no no no no we're done now um what is what if we don't get to the utah jerseys
Starting point is 00:59:19 i'm gonna kill you both all right oh yeah let's talk about that i'm going to unalive you both in a joking manner what does madeline have to say it's her belated birthday happy belated birthday madeline happy birthday maddie um i think dualipa should win the conspite hey hey hey your dualipa story that's uh was that on a vip episode or no that was a regular episode all right i think she should all right do you remember the time the dualipa was traded for luongo guys can we please hey steve did the sleep improve no have you considered a new mattress yeah have you yeah have you taken the quiz at helix no i usually don't do well at quizzes okay helixsleep.com slash sdp you don't you don't actually have to pass the quiz oh it asks you
Starting point is 01:00:07 about you you know when you like go to a dinner party you're like hey tell me about you that's what helix does when you go over to helix's house which is helixsleep.com oh and after a 45 minute conversation about a cowboy video game then we get into math that's right yeah and it asks you about how you like to sleep uh you also get um uh there's a 100 night trial and attend to a 15 year warranty depending upon which helix mattress you buy so not only do they ask you about how you sleep um like how hot you get do you sleep on your side do you sleep on your stomach do you sleep on your back uh i am one of those people that does sleep on their stomach sometimes and it is bad for you but yeah helix sleep says they have a they have a mattress for me sorry i was smirking
Starting point is 01:00:48 because you're like how do you like to sleep and i was like unconscious yeah uh i thought it was funny he's oh man that's how you sleep that's a bad joke you're out of it you're out helix is offering 20 off all mattresses and two free pillows for our listeners go to helix.com excuse me go to helix sleep.com there you go slash sdp that's helix sleep.com slash sdp this is their best offer yet and it won't last long with helix better sleep starts now when west chat first took flight in 1996 the vibes were a bit different people thought denim on denim was peak fashion inline skates were everywhere and two out of three women rocked the rachel while those things stayed in the 90s one thing that hasn't is that fuzzy feeling you get when west jet welcomes you on
Starting point is 01:01:33 board here's to west jetting since 96 travel back in time with us and actually travel with us at westjet.com slash 30 years would do a leap of where this jersey so so no we finally got a look at the utah jersey and colors and boy did they take absolutely no risk it is a 1.5 out of 10 on the deserved to interesting meter you you you wrote it is your birthday yeah it is your birthday but like it's what are the expectations the expectations are they going to come in bold look what vegas did seattle and vegas came in with bold colors and cool looks and i understand man, Utah hasn't had time to put the press together. I get that.
Starting point is 01:02:17 But the color scheme sucks. No, I actually don't mind the color scheme at all. It's just very Tampa, very Toronto. No, it's different blue. Very Kootenai ice. No, it's Kootenai ice or Winnipeg ice now. Winnipeg, yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 01:02:32 It's very Sportsnet, actually. It kind of looks like the Sportsnet local a little bit without the red. Yeah, it's the same blue, isn't it? Or do they have one of the shades? No, they would make sure to get big red in there. Like the shoulder patch or something. Okay. um i don't mind it because it's really only two it's a jersey for one season it'll be the inaugural
Starting point is 01:02:49 jersey it'll be a collector's item after and it will always be ugly and i think they they went with the right blue i don't like that they went with the black i think you go with the blue on the jersey i think that they messed up yes majorly with that but just go into utah with the numbers okay whatever it feels original 60 um which is kind of i think kind of cool um but they went wrong with the black the white's awesome this they messed up i wonder if they were worried about getting too close to the penguin 70s jerseys which were like a powder blue oh that's not their color steal it yeah it isn't that's a the one they wore at the winter class or the outdoor game awesome and that team by the way that 70s team that wore those colors were absolute
Starting point is 01:03:31 crap they were terrible and they did nothing until they went to the black and gold era adam actually makes a really good point there because the lightning to switch to the jerseys they have now had to ask the leafs for permission yes and the leafs granted it which i i wonder fucking thinking i know i know i wonder if there's something there with uh utah going with this because they weren't allowed to go with the powder blue or whatever you call that blue i'm sure the penguins don't own that they're black they are black and gold possible steelers are black and gold pirates are black and gold penguins are black and gold they're black and gold the canucks just or black and yellow every color of the rainbow because they wore yellow and maroon and navy and
Starting point is 01:04:13 green and they're a little non-committal yeah and when the canucks had a black jersey it had like red coming up like red you remember that one the naslin gradient yeah anyway i don't i don't love it it's simple i like the i like the away jersey which is the whites better than the blacks i think i think they copped out i think you're absolutely right jesse now that you mention it i think a powder blue would have been spectacular it would have changed because you would have been like oh there's a there's a pop of color and stuff it would have changed your feeling about the jersey yep the black's just like i can't wait for utah and los angeles to play that's good that's gonna be great so i guess wow how exciting i guess the deserve to look good meter should be a little
Starting point is 01:04:51 lower because it's a 1.5 out of 10 that one the home the home jersey is like a five it is bad i'm gonna give him a five mid snort i don't i don't mind the utah lettering like i don't mind that mid yeah it's if they took they good i bet what choice did they have right they had no choice they got to put utah on the jersey you can't have like hc on it otherwise like if they call this club utah hc as much as i i love football the reason they called them football clubs is because they were actual football clubs that were like you know the neighborhood guys would get together and then play each other and now they make a bajillion yeah 100 the the so that there's like a reason for that and i know there were hockey clubs that were the same thing but the hockey
Starting point is 01:05:37 clubs in north america have always had a name give me a name don't don't wimp out be a name person i think part of the uh disappointment here is we've been complaining about the coyotes for so long and then they move yeah and they go to utah yep and we're all really excited for something cool and silly like the venom or outlaws or yeti do the yeti and then they just do this like this is like a boring i just want to get into a quick game jersey you would create on 24 i'm too lazy to come up with a logo like i'm not even going to put the pineapple in there or like all those other ones like I'm just
Starting point is 01:06:24 Utah boo I could make this in an hour you're really underselling yourself you think that would take you a whole hour you could make that in five minutes Maddie yeah but you know what
Starting point is 01:06:39 they did have to make it in five minutes it is important that you understand no but they did because it actually matters in terms of getting these jerseys made That does matter. There's a deadline. You have to get it done.
Starting point is 01:06:53 Just like when you're writing a book, we got to bring it to print physical copies. And we're not going to have enough if we don't get it to print now. And that's six months in advance. That's why my book's dog shit. You kind of started the segment, Adam. I think we should have given them that leeway.
Starting point is 01:07:07 That's how your expectation- Color scheme could have been better. Color scheme could have- The black. Yes, yes. But I think we should all look at this with the perspective that they had an hour to get this done and get it submitted to Fanatics.
Starting point is 01:07:20 and get these jerseys made and all this stuff. And there's a lot that goes into that behind the scenes. I feel like it's a shoulder patch away from being all right. I think they might have them on there. They need to just add like a lace. Like add a lace like instead of the NHL crest. Yeah, the lace on the top. But it's also, it's a jersey for one season.
Starting point is 01:07:39 And this happens to us every time. We never learn. It's going to look better on the players. This is a mock-up. The mock-up always stinks. Mock-up stinks. they gotta find a way to do better mock yeah hopefully i also was hoping for more shiny helmets can i be honest i love a shiny okay shiny that blue if they do that and they go gloves too
Starting point is 01:08:02 what would you call that what's that cobalt oh no that's powder that's powder blue yeah yeah that's blue jays shiny powder retro blue jays color right there do that okay i'm in i'm in i think we just did we just solve it for them i think we just solved you guys are welcome the utah uh hey so alex steen uh leaf great alex steen will be the general manager of the saint louis blues in two years uh this is an a very interesting and we talked a little bit on the show uh yesterday so you might be hearing this twice um but teen chairman tom stillman outlined the succession plan in a news conference saying doug armstrong came to him earlier this year to make a case for a new gm so this is doug armstrong going i think it's time doug armstrong has been
Starting point is 01:08:51 the gm since 2010 in that time the blues are 601 364 and 112 those oh my god fifth most appearance uh fifth most wins in the nhl during that 14 year span and 10 playoff appearances that's pretty amazing also a cup did we mention that yeah uh and he he said that listen steen played 750 games of a thousand here um he was the he is the team's european player development consultant and uh i guess the belief is that um he should be the guy that takes over because he's been the guy like eiserman like sakic like so many other guys uh who've worked under general managers and and go okay here here you go now now what's interesting is this could all change doesn't have to go this way so in theory they could revoke the job sure they can always do that or they can switch the
Starting point is 01:09:44 contract or pay out the con they can do anything they want now i think this contract is set in stone i think they fully plan on doing this but what if things go sideways and they decide you know what if he decides he doesn't want to do it actually being a retired player is kind of great i'm just gonna do that i don't think he's that kind of guy no and he lives and his family's in st louis they're all from there they live there well what do you guys think of that naming a general manager two years in advance the leafs kind of did it with kyle dubas three years in advance under lou lamorello when lou said if he's not the gm in three years that i haven't done my job and then then when dubas did get the job lou was like screw you guys i'm out of here
Starting point is 01:10:25 on one hand i like transparency for the fans so that you know what's happening on the other hand uh you could have simply just done this without announcing like um you know with eiserman in years past and other guys in years past it's obvious what the path of succession was supposed to be but you know if they did a bad job then you don't need to do it can i suggest that somebody was after steen ah interesting adam what job was alexine offered i mean i don't think that this was the um no i know i don't think this is the one but um but tell that you i mean you told it on the other podcast so maybe you should save it for that but i think there was probably another nhl team interested
Starting point is 01:11:19 here i think you're right maybe the team that drafted him right the toronto maple i highly doubt it what do you think keith act we asked him about that because he was uh assistant coach at least when that trade happened and we're like what you you said you're like what'd you think of that trade and i said bad trade to his credit he said bad trade i mean yeah it was him and carlo koliakova bad trade bad trade koliakova who despite injuries played way more games for the blues than stem yak ever played for the leafs that's a that's a tough trade that's a bad trade and i think you're you're probably right so um and and you know it could have been i don't know who could have i wanted to speculate just for a minute who was looking for a gm
Starting point is 01:12:02 who could have offered it right away because remember colorado came after dubas well not necessarily gm because i i think what people are losing here is even though it was announced the plan is for him to be the gm in two years he got a promotion yeah so you said he was there was a european player development consultant that's right and now he's assistant to the general manager that's a promotion right so was there an agm job that he was offered somewhere that's my guess with a succession plan not necessarily but like you talk about it the blues promising it is interesting it's it doesn't happen often you know that's why i feel like something forced that and good for them and good for him yeah um natalie spooner was named the pwhl mvp natalie spooner
Starting point is 01:12:53 who i think is probably feeling like if it wasn't for that damn knee injury if it wasn't for that damn knee injury who knows she led the pwhl with 20 goals uh and 27 points just an absolute snipe show yeah it is called the billy jean gang mvp award just in case anybody wants to know she's absolutely incredible like ridiculous career it's crazy she's not only still playing but playing at this click like just absurd absurd talent patrick linea and the columbus blue jackets are going to work out a trade he's asked for a fresh start where do you think he'd fit best um i didn't see anyone suggest this yesterday and i'm glad i saved it for the show i want patrick linea and the carolina hurricanes to shut up and kiss it's it's it does make a lot
Starting point is 01:13:40 of sense it's been hinted at for years you would essentially be reuniting that team finland team from like what was it 2016 world juniors or something with like the exception of miko ranton and go ahead and go ask the blues if they want to give up kasperi kapanen too screw it why not like just get the whole band back together um and as long as we're talking about reuniting him with the biggest finish contingent in the league Dallas also I thought Boston Boston for
Starting point is 01:14:12 Patrick line a because they have a really structured system and they probably could use a little bit more goal scoring and this guy's you forget Patrick line is 26 he's young and he's making 8 8.7 I think Columbus
Starting point is 01:14:28 Columbus fans are not going to like this but I'm not sure that you can get away with this trade uh without retaining you're gonna have to retain on this that's a tough trade to navigate i i think he needs to go to a team that can support him he was in too big of a role in columbus um you got to be in a team that can shelter him a little bit and then he graduates into a bigger role and the teams who can do that are the teams who are already good and the teams who are already good usually don't have cap space so once again that points to retaining um there's probably going to
Starting point is 01:15:02 be a gap on the hurricanes roster once they get rid of naked naked naked which we're getting to guys naked uh aren't naked yeah well um sometimes i'm sure yep yep absolutely that's most of what hockey players do get dressed and undressed um it's what they spend half their life doing um carolina interesting because uh and and jesse what do you think by the way on unfit for patrick lining you always wonder what you're paying for you know when you're trading for a player who's unhappy and hasn't performed well but it was on a bad team and you look at how much of a mess columbus has been the last few years and he might score eight he might score 45 right and like the 45 goal patrick line a was only seen in his first three seasons with winnipeg you know and that
Starting point is 01:15:51 columbus gets him you're like oh he could be that guy and then he was never that guy so the next team he goes to you wonder what you're getting with patrick patrick line and what the price is going to be to pay for like what are you paying for you paying for the prospect that he could be the guy he was in winnipeg in his early years are you paying for a downed asset that hasn't played well on a bad team let me uh offer a trade um let me offer pieces to build a trade around underperforming finn on a big money contract is perry cockney emmy could he start his career anew in columbus oh i wouldn't want you get the young you get the younger player well no you're not rebuilding around him he's just he's the younger player he fits columbus's window a little
Starting point is 01:16:43 better um it takes care of a problem for carolina and maybe maybe if you're columbus you don't have to retain if that's what the trade is it might be better to get him mm-hmm like how much time is left on liney's deal two years 8.7 million and you're retaining and columbus columbus isn't in the habit of paying guys to not play or coach for them or at least they don't like it i don't want cocky yummy if i'm colombo yeah why would you want him so you can be more mid like cocky yummy was bad these playoffs yeah yeah but it's not like dude had one point you're not getting a player with like a crazy recent track record and patrick lining either that's fair so that's why i think it's it's a framework the great thing for columbus
Starting point is 01:17:32 they don't have to worry about the playoffs like if you're like what are you worried about yeah get there cocky yummy cocky yummy has like no track record yeah never really had like a hey He iced the Leafs in game six. How dare you? He scored one goal against the Leafs. I really do. I don't think that's a track record. I hate that damn team.
Starting point is 01:17:49 He's never really had a really standout regular season. It's an interesting proposal. Young talent for younger talent. I think I'm just looking at line eight. Playing lots of games has been a struggle. He played, what, 18 games this year? 18. He had six goals and nine points.
Starting point is 01:18:10 Half a point a game. but the two years prior on the blue jackets he had 22 goals and 52 points in 55 games and then 26 goals and 56 points in 56 games you're getting roughly a point a game player there like recently like there's reason to believe he can still be that that's a pretty good player yep that's a pretty good player i think there's a framework there how does the player assistance program section that patrick linea is in how does that work is he just coming out of it this summer and then he's just gonna be that's great next year uh i don't know um he also had a minor shoulder cleanup surgery apparently um expectation is he'll be ready to go for next season that's
Starting point is 01:18:55 what the athletic article says okay so by like that'll all be cleared by the time like next season yeah fires up okay yeah and i think you know columbus is where good talent goes to die right now and and i i know blue jackets fans don't like me saying that but show me i'm wrong and i think they know they need to look at a lot of push they need to don waddell by the way don waddell going there and then trading with uh carolina's first trading partner be interesting well i mean he moved heaven and earth to get cock in the emmy so he obviously likes the player well maybe not now someone in the organization did somebody did i don't know never got that deal never understood that but i look at this and i think okay um what does columbus want to be
Starting point is 01:19:37 do you want to be try to be good this year or do you want to try to be good in a couple years you're already you're already bad but at least if you start to look at moving guys like linea and maybe a johnny gaudreau you at least can sell some hope with some young players you're you're a check oh you bail you bail on this team wow no you need some you have some you got a you got a high draft pick you've got johnson you got you're a check you've got a whole bunch of other guys sorry you need some experience oh you've got boone jenner all-star boone jenner stop no no okay fine get cocky i mean i need some external experience let johnny gaudreau go if you love him let him go i need free him from this cage i need some good nhl veterans who have
Starting point is 01:20:27 an experience outside of this dungeon uh marty niches by the way you did mention uh winnipeg jets club chicago blackhawks montreal canadians calgary flames and boston bruins see told you boston go away are among the teams well boston does what vegas does they're always in on the guy it's true go get the guy it's true uh boston uh it's never oh it's too hard or how would we make that work it's it's your freaking job go make it happen and they do it winnipeg chicago montreal calgary and boston for marty natchez you know what boston never does hey should we just run it back no hey should we just oh they don't have to ask that question because they always go deep well last couple years maybe not i was listening to the overdrive segment about marner yesterday and
Starting point is 01:21:10 i'm like i'm taking crazy pills i like i can't believe they're well okay but you're talking about darren dragger saying well he doesn't have to and i think we know the connection there and it's not like i'm not trying to insult anybody but we know the connection there and we know that that's posturing by the marner god bless jeff o'neill god bless well what did he say like well he's they were like what is all this about we have to make changes and then they're going to offer him a contract extension what are you talking about and dragger's like well then would you let him play the year and walk for nothing and jeff without missing a beat goes yes yeah and he's right so he's right so where do you think marty niches makes the most sense like i'm
Starting point is 01:21:52 interested to see the chicago blackhawks in on this because they should be in the in the business of acquiring good young players especially wingers who can score around conor bedard where do you like them the best boston is a pretty good fit because even though they play um really solid hockey together there's definitely um room to grow on paper um he'd fit a really good window for them because like he's not a rookie he's not a sophomore either but he's also not old um like he would help them get better now and for the future i think a lot of players should be in on this guy like you know the zaka coil thing sort of got old for the bruins a little bit and adding natures to that really really adds some punch um to the lineup so yeah i like that for
Starting point is 01:22:48 boston which is why i hope it doesn't happen okay right jesse what do you think i like the montreal canadians as a landing spot i'm waiting for them to keep doing these kind of deals and then take on scoring talent so they can get better a little quicker and i feel like 25 year old player who wants to play on the power play a whole bunch and there's ice time available in montreal they need more goal scoring they need more talent i think there's a deal to be made especially with their salary cap situation where they're not up against it they can give this rfa a decent deal and maybe it's shorter term so you see how he plays out and with the extra ice time that he'll get in montreal and i think it'd be a good fit like you're right and like i'm talking about
Starting point is 01:23:29 boston you're talking about montreal these are not the same team at all isn't this player just good and aren't the hurricanes just good why aren't they keeping this player i think he doesn't want to be there why he doesn't like his role on the team that's i mean kind of nuts and that's why i mentioned the stuff because he wants more he wants more time on the he wants more ability more put more areas to score goals uh to put up points you know he's not happy with how he's being deployed i don't i don't hate that i like that in a player i want i want a guy who's like yo screw this i'm better this is uh i mean one of the great things about pro sports is whenever these discussions come up we're like oh what about reasonable thing and we're not talking about reasonable people
Starting point is 01:24:10 we're talking about the most competitive one percent of human beings on the planet yeah and you know what wherever he goes especially teams like the blackhawks and the montreal canadians if he ends up in those he'll get his power play time we'll know yeah but like if he's as competitive as he's being sold as like isn't it going to kill you to lose freaking 50 games well i think what i think if you look at what what happened in uh carolina like two years ago or two seasons ago now 22 23 71 points last year 53 um so a bit of a drop bit of a change in usage bit of a deeper lineup and at a certain point you're like listen i'm the guy and if you don't believe i'm the guy i'm gonna go somewhere else and show you that i'm the guy i want to make some money yeah forget
Starting point is 01:24:50 about the the winning and losing you'll figure that out when you get there because if you're the guy you believe you'll win they'll start winning because you're there he doesn't go there and be like ah this team sucks and we're gonna lose i think he thinks that they're gonna win yeah i think this is the summer players start going you know what i'm gonna hitch my wagon to this conor bedard you know yeah other than guys like nick felino who are like openly talking about how he's gonna retire soon on the bench uh you know you gotta get some guys to play with this kid going forward uh Nikolai Ehler's name has come up in trade talks the um Winnipeg Jets he has had some injuries the last few years but this year played a full 82 uh was drafted one
Starting point is 01:25:28 spot after William Nylander and is a 61 point player who frankly if you were paying attention to the Jets things didn't go well with him and Rick Bonas and uh or Paul Maurice and I well palmer he's a little better i think yeah um for six million bucks for one year you know this is a guy that puts up a lot of points there's this is a good player that can slot in on a lot of teams second and and if you're really good sorry if you're a really good team it's a second line if you're a good team he's probably a first line you don't like him me are you saying you don't like him no no i'm saying i like him the the reason i'm i like him dismissive is uh his ice time by the way under bonus went from 18 minutes a night under paul maurice to 1538 and 1552
Starting point is 01:26:17 that's why like nicolai ehlers being in trade rumors is as close to a free space on the bingo card as you can get for like a non-leaf like it's every year it's play them more no i won't k will trade them then they didn't puts up points never plays like this is uh this is very much winnipeg's mo is geyser and rumors forever then nothing happens usually um unless their tracksuit gets thrown in the shower yes then you're traded immediately but then it's like uh hellebuck not as much but like shifley yep wheeler um line a remember like i remember doing a segment where i was like shut up and make a decision about this player uh not for him not for you for your fans like you need a reason to get excited about your team i want to know if i can buy this player's
Starting point is 01:27:19 jersey is there a point and at every moment of every year it's like we don't know if he's staying or going and i feel like it's been like that for nikolai ehlers for like all of post-covid has been has been like i think this predates it honestly it's just there's a brain fog there and i have no idea if it predates and i'm pretty sure it did but i can't remember because of the 2020 syndrome or whatever you call it but like i just every year every year with nicolai ehlers it's one of those yeah it'd be interesting but i'll believe it when i see it i think we talk about this every year the winnipeg jets are due for a move with ehlers just for the change for the sake a change situation because they've been running the core with hellebuck ehlers shifley and at
Starting point is 01:28:08 least you want to throw in morrissey and blake wheeler and all those years isn't this familiar as hell yeah and they they moved off a wheeler eventually and he walked they he left and they they parted ways and then you have your new captain now and in lowry and you know you you're moving off of what you had and you you've picked the guys you want to stick with you've given shifley long-term deal you've given hellebuck the long-term deal connor's gonna be there forever you know you're gonna keep him around and i feel like ehlers is just kind of the last piece that you probably don't want to get married to and you want to just divorce it now and move it out of the way you know i feel like that's the the parting of ways and then they can move
Starting point is 01:28:49 forward because it's stale it's a little stale that relationship the irony is like a line eight ehlers swap could make some sense i just don't know if he wants to go back to winnipeg that doesn't make sense at all no no but like just in terms of like role and money if his name wasn't patrick lion and he didn't play there before yes yeah yeah but because it's him yeah i feel i just feel like eelers and winnipeg's a little stale at this point especially with how they lost that yeah round yeah remember that yeah not pretty well good there needs to some there needs same with toronto there needs to be some sort of consequence for losing and when you lose that way with a bunch of guys who have been here forever this new guy i was gonna say i would
Starting point is 01:29:27 like ehlers in toronto yeah i would like a guy like that this is a good player soft on the left yeah i mean let me bring this team up again uh really strong offensive player underappreciated in the market he's in nikolai ehlers welcome to carolina no you sound like a hurricane already everybody's going to carolina he sounds like a hurricane though like like i'm not i'm not using them as my cop-out team it's all the players we're talking about finish he's danish i know so but like they're close they are close they used to be one you know hockey guys if you squint it's the same country you know it's the same place it's the same place if you definitely definitely say that to danish people oh yeah no it's all part of the same blog
Starting point is 01:30:11 all right all right so you guys that's i mean unless you do we want to get we want to talk about very quickly san jose did uh hire a head coach uh wasowski not wasowski uh i'm watching you ryan uh werfowski werfowski werfowski yes i'd listen so what do we think it was like the least least talked about head coach hiring i've ever seen uh this dude here's what's surprising about it if this dude was in this room he would uh be the third youngest one so how old is he he is 36 like you and i adam except his birthday is in october wow wait i'm an idiot he was born in 87 we were born in 88 so he would be the oldest okay but not by very much but we chose to be podcasters and your whole point is wrong you know what's interesting that that deserved to
Starting point is 01:31:10 deserve interesting meters at a zero yeah i deserve swing and a miss yeah no that's a minus Matty, get the graphic up on the screen. No! Steve, no! The deserved interesting. That was a Vladdy, Bo, and George Springer lineup when the Jays are full of load of bases. I think it's...
Starting point is 01:31:29 Miss, miss, miss. I think the path of very successful AHL head coach, this is the guy. I'm surprised Kyle Dubas didn't sign him to be his first line center because he won the AHL championship with the Chicago Wolves in 22. and then he was the assistant in san jose i always want well it's funny you say that jesse he because
Starting point is 01:31:50 dubas once traded for his brother really uh david warsawski when i when i saw warsawski i was like wait is that the guy who the leafs got no it's his brother uh at least i didn't look up if it's his brother but they're both guys named warsawski from marshfield massachusetts so i'm gonna go ahead and they even look alike um the trade was um uh david warsawski traded from pittsburgh along with adam you're gonna like this evan rodriguez philip hollander in a first round pick in 2020 to toronto for pontus auberg casperi kapanen and les yes per lindgren wow uh some success in the echl as well many moons ago this was somebody who was very successful in his very early years as a head coach in different levels of hockey and he seemed like the next generation
Starting point is 01:32:41 of guys to come up and and get the gig so when he got that assistant job in san jose it was only like okay who's gonna give him the shot as a head coach and with a team that probably shouldn't have any expectations on winning a single hockey game yeah well time especially if macklin celebrating is like i don't want to play for you i want to go back to university for a year uh then like it's gonna be a good role for him to just learn and lose a whole bunch adam do you still want to get into lane lambert no we don't have time we don't have time well okay so in my lane lambert video i talked about some guys are better suited to be head coach some guys are better suited to be an assistant so he's been assistant in san jose for the last two years did you talk about
Starting point is 01:33:21 his record the last time he was a head coach uh well he's you mean in the age in the ahl okay yeah because he's never been a head coach in the nhl no no i know that sorry my bad yeah i should specified in 76 games with the 21 22 chicago wolves the championship winning season they won the championship and en route to the championship in the regular season they went 50 and 16 50 16 and 10 okay 50 50 16 and 10 and evan rodriguez and evan rodriguez i think i think that was a fair point and their top scorer with 101 points in 71 games andrew potteralski because the ahl is silly it is it's a 30 year old i have never heard of okay so uh it's i i like that that for them because first he's aware of the system uh but also that there is he kind of
Starting point is 01:34:21 gets to grow with these players right and you're probably not going to get celebrini until next year anyway so yeah go have fun he gets uh he gets uh freaking if he can squeeze a little blood from the stone let's say he he finishes fifth last next year hell yeah man this guy's this guy's a jack adams nominee i was about to say what's the lowest ranked jack adams vote ever that's a good question we should look at not even vote winner winner a non-playoff team jack adams winner john totorella is probably the closest in recent memory probably people are like he almost did it good for him yeah and danny breer is like hey what does that mean to end the show can i end where last show ended let's go the hershey bears and cleveland monsters game seven of the calder cup eastern
Starting point is 01:35:08 conference finals the hershey bears on the verge of blowing a 3-0 series lead were tasked with winning the game in overtime against the Cleveland Monsters, and they did it. They had a 3-2 victory in OT, but Game 7 went to OT, and Cleveland almost did the thing. We had some familiar names
Starting point is 01:35:30 in the goal-scoring chart before the game. Trey Fix-Wolanski, who we mentioned during the regular season. The Fix is in! The Fix is in. He did score the first goal of the game for the Cleveland Monsters. They were up. Who was it assisted by, Jesse?
Starting point is 01:35:46 uh denton matejuk no and the name we want to say david you're a david you're a check alan wash client we have some familiar names score some points in this game which was fun to see and the hershey bears went up to one in the game and then miraculously in the third period again cleveland came back they tie it late uh middle of the third and then we get to overtime garrett Rowe is the overtime hero for Hershey. They avoid disaster and they will face Coachella Valley in
Starting point is 01:36:18 the Call of the Cup finals, which is a rematch of last year. Look at where Hershey beat Coachella Valley for the championship. Look at Garrett Rowe's stat line. What? 11 goals. Where are we looking at? 11 goals, zero assists. In the three stars area.
Starting point is 01:36:35 Look at three stars. No, Adam, that's one goal, zero assists. I thought it said 11 goals. It looked like 11 that's insane oh my god it says it literally says six here i know but it looked like 11 looking at that i was looking at the other thing oh man that would have been so sick well there's my deserve to interest yeah that's a zero yeah shout out shout out to uh jimmy sickhead uh also known as james maltesta getting his first goal to tie the game not a bad time to show up uh so Hershey Bears I assume are going to be the
Starting point is 01:37:12 underdogs against Coachella Valley who's been pretty uh they've been a very high ranking team all season long they've been very good um but this the Hershey Bears have a chance now for back-to-back Calder Cup championships which will be pretty cool if they get it done but we'll see Calder Cup finals Coachella Valley walk off the minors like that's just such a good story you win the championship and then go take an nhl job yep yeah for yeah not cory clouston that that who is it the coach i forget his freaking name oh i don't know the news can you just fire the extra and we'll find it his name is dan bilesma who i think once coached evan rodriguez yeah i think he did in buffalo probably shit out of wild you probably did i don't know if you did
Starting point is 01:38:00 you know what you know what you're a dad you're supposed to say no i've never met him you blew it oh i'm sorry i'm sorry listen have a great weekend the steve dangle podcast follow the guys on twitter at steve underscore dangle at adam w y l d e and at jesse blake connection complete
