Starting point is 00:01:58 with where we break down the talk to a podcast yeah yeah right i don't think we do here is she still doing it i don't know she hasn't been so from when we're recording this the talk to a girl hayley welch hasn't been heard from since she was in a twitter spaces and in the twitter space it's actually a really funny it's been a trending sound on tiktok she goes all right hate to cut you off there but i need to go to bed now bye and then that's it she hasn't been heard from since well maybe that was after the crypto scam maybe she's still sleeping she's been asleep for like eight days so uh i'm locked in on talk to her news gotta find out when she emerges from her slumber
Starting point is 00:02:49 locked to a lock oh wow yep all right all right now uh when the miami dolphins got beat the other day uh the team that beat them tweeted we we've we've hawked to uh because their quarterback is to a tag of my loa hey jesse yeah what part of the holidays are we at this is have you checked the calendar december 27th oh if you are aware so it's a couple days post xmas did you guys have a great good xmas oh you bet yeah oh did leo get everything he wants oh he sure did would you be willing to reveal on this podcast what leo is getting he wants for some reason he won't adam same questions coming to you he wants a lego police station oh i don't know why um and also man your kid's a cop i know leo's a cop just snitching on people already harry potter's a cop
Starting point is 00:03:41 everyone's a cop um and also we're gonna get him a piece of uh uh that synthetic ice so he can take better shots and fuck up our basement harder that's good you should just put it you know you could just because you don't use your garage except for a workout space you could just do it in the garage like a normal person no no steve has a double garage is cold and he could he could get a heater and put it in the garage and not fuck up his very nice basement or that was newly renovated when he bought it but instead he's like no let's do it in the basement lest leo playing a winter sport get slightly cold no we could just put a heater in in the garage even you could have somebody come in and and and spray foam the garage insulated insulated yeah well put a heater and put
Starting point is 00:04:29 some hot put a tv in there like a real man oh wow and i have some sonos speakers or not even that get a bluetooth speaker and then you could just have hey on replay yeah um no where uh where this might become a moot point is uh we're also planning on building a backyard rink where that you have a pool that's what i am are you just leaving it full is next to if you have like a sliver of grass on the side of the pool where's he gonna move shit there yeah so it can't go there there's also like a seating area and your amazing barbecue thing with your sign they can't go there no so it's gonna where does it go like in front of it doesn't need to be big like it's not freaking regulation size 200 feet you know it's gonna be
Starting point is 00:05:23 like this little patch of ice for a four-year-old okay that's it it's gonna be real tight he's gonna do a lot of circles yeah yeah correct you know what jesse he's gonna be great in the corners he's great in a small space straight ahead he's gonna be like six foot four 240 pounds at like 16 and he's just going to be like dangling himself, not being able to take a full stride. His straightaway speed is going to be garbage. Straightaway speed. No, stop and starts are going to be unreal.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Stick lifts are unreal already. I taught him stick lift and he hides stick me in the head only once. If he doesn't stop, he's going to go directly into the pool. Well, that's why I need to supervise him. Steve, just like put it in the garage next to your workout. You can work out and he can play hockey. It's easy. No, we're
Starting point is 00:06:04 going to put ice. Real ice. Okay, now here's my... Real? I'm not even like synthetic stuff nope also isn't it on a hill isn't mostly backward like sloped no it's flat we have a flat part there's a flat part okay big enough flat part that it'll be fine okay but steve i gotta see those receive you know how why is my idea bad temperate no weather no no it's not bad it's just you know how temperate the weather is so my so my as of this recording you can't go out when the shit weather shit my my wife and her sister are um are type a to say the least and so my yes so my uh sister-in-law texted uh her parents today as a part of the
Starting point is 00:06:43 family group chat and said hey should we bring our skates up and we're about two weeks out from needing to bring our skates up right uh is the ice frozen and and basically where uh at the cottage oh you guys have a rink at the cottage well no we've got ice though it's a cottage and they've got water right lake yeah so you can skate on the lake my bad and they were asking about like is the lake frozen and i said to myself and i did say to steve and to maddie you know that's a question you can ask the day before because the ice is going to freeze and to thaw and to freeze and to thaw and that's like buckhorn area which is a lot colder than it is here i'm just wondering like for you yes knowing how temperate we are you being as close to the lake as you are yes
Starting point is 00:07:22 are you sure you want to go with real ice yes okay why don't you just put down a couple of fucking panels and on the ground because those panels are actually like so expensive they're really expensive the aliexpress get the aliexpress ones here you go those ones the same thing except they come from the far east they come from direct someone wants to listen to this episode and send me some free shit um you you advocate for your maybe plus all the time yeah exactly cheaper jesse wants me to steal yeah i know that's not stealing that's all it is yeah it's wholesale yeah like to the max so purchase so you're you're trying to save money by putting down real ice which is also a costly and timely situation do you think steve's
Starting point is 00:08:14 gonna be out there in the middle of the night putting warm water on that yes you're gonna do it yeah i need insta story he's gonna do it but adam he's gonna complain about it he's not gonna complain i need insta story proof i need it's a story proof when it starts happening it's gonna be so he's not happy with this guess who's not invited i can't that's that thing's gonna be bigger the smaller than me it's not big enough for us yeah i could lay across that entire pad you probably could honestly no i'm uh i'm doing it i'm gonna i'm determined to give leo all the hockey things i didn't have which is lovely which is like skill and as your friend we're gonna take this very sweet thing that you're doing for your son and make fun of it
Starting point is 00:08:57 okay and i think that's what good friends do yeah yeah yeah i wish you were more efficient in your uh dreams damn whoa okay jesse damn adam i asked you to prepare for this question oh are you willing to reveal what everly is receiving for christmas Yes, she is getting a bunch of Monster High dolls. Monster High, if you don't know, is where all the monsters go to high school. What? And so the monsters, they go to high school,
Starting point is 00:09:27 and then they solve, like, crimes, and they, you know, prevent, you know, because it's like a Hogwarts situation where you've got, like, some baddies who are trying to get into the school and disrupt Monster High. Sorry, in cartoons, baddie means something different than what it means on the internet.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Monster High dolls. I don't know which of these she's getting, but I know that Dragulara is her favorite. this is a ridiculous show uh uh uh yeah there's cleo cleo denial they all look like bratz dolls yeah that's essentially what they are they're bratz dolls but yeah oh wednesday is it it yeah when's the character in this universe everly went as wednesday to for halloween she loves wednesday oh because of monster high not because of wednesday adam not i don't think she watched the show i don't know maybe she did oh gee i don't know was she mean to people wednesday
Starting point is 00:10:14 no everly no wednesday's just cold right she's not mean yeah she's got a big heart she's just you know shy she's more just aubrey plaza than yes then like evil witch right you know yes uh evil witch yeah so you see that there's a ton of characters and what's great when you create a tv show is to create as many fucking characters as you can so that parents need to spend an absolute fortune at christmas there's too many characters thankfully uh santa's taking care of most of this my favorite so far is the half cat person yeah i haven't heard much of catty noir but uh patty noir claudian wolf oh oh claudian wolf is one of everly's favorite loves a claudian loves a claudian and it's spelled c-l-a-w
Starting point is 00:11:04 dean the pun claudian can i flex first yeah dude go ahead um so catty noir reminded me uh i found out um i found out someone i went to school with is black noir from the boys oh no way um because he posted it on his facebook oh that's cool good for him i was like oh what and i didn't know because that character always wears a mask wears a mask yes i was just gonna say and then he he was posing for a behind the scenes picture without it and i'm like hey it's nathan do you guys are you guys rocking with heath burns who's i am rocking with heath burns is this heath burns has got some great weed yeah that guy's got great weed he does you know it you know he does you're at the beach and this guy's like hey what's up i'm already on fire is his hair fire yeah yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:11:51 you know what it's like it's pretty cool you know but heath are there oh and burns like do they make lots of jokes like oh you know stop being so hot-headed you know you know it's interesting i don't think they do but they should i don't know if the kids will get those you know i think those jokes might go over the kids head no everly would get it because her dad is 94 oh adam these characters don't stop no it's oh my god i've been on this page forever like paw patrol you were like wow they have a lot of characters and now she's graduated to this where i'm like oh my god like this is they have you know how you have like a graduating class in high school they have a character for every person in your graduating class there might be
Starting point is 00:12:31 300 people i like the name uh draculaura draculaura is draculaura and claudine are are her favorites it's laura you know yeah draculaura because her name's just kind of laura oh rupaul rupaul's in the show oh i didn't know that what i didn't know that no way wow that actually looks like rupaul too that's crazy all right i know what i'm getting everly get her the monster high rupaul dragon queen doll i was hoping you would get her the dragon queen dragon queen that's great it's actually not bad either like unlike if we're power ranking shows it sure beats uh what's that horrible one cocomelon oh my god cocomelon so i hated cocomelon that phase was awful and i'd always be like oh i'd really be like where's
Starting point is 00:13:18 cocomelon i'd be like uh vacation and i would would not i refuse to put cocomelon on apparently it's not even like good for your kid really yeah it's something about um like it's just a show design and i didn't really realize this until i watched a video about it it's just constantly got shit going on to keep your kids attention oh so i the uh you know yeah it's not educational it's not educational right it's just songs and everything which i guess is fine but like the it's i don't know better to show your kids something that they actually yeah yeah you can get shows that are a combination of attention and education that's why i was willing to deal who are the singing Australian people?
Starting point is 00:14:01 And I can't wiggle the wiggles. I was willing to deal with the wiggles because I felt like at least there were human beings. They were putting a lot into the song and dance. I knew all the, I knew all the lyrics. I, after a while,
Starting point is 00:14:11 hot potato, a potato, uh, but, but you know, you feel like, okay, they're trying to teach them to sing.
Starting point is 00:14:18 And then with monster high, they're trying to teach them the difference between good and evil, but also that everybody looks and is different, but they can all work together. And I think that that's a valuable lesson. I like that. Oh, yeah. Paw Patrol was just a little bit more, like, good versus not as good.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Like, I don't think the guy, the mayor of that town with all the cats was all that bad most of the time. Oh, Mayor Humdinger? Mayor Humdinger was not that bad. I'm the mayor of Foggy Bottom. The death of Paw Patrol? Yeah, that's right. No, Jesse, we need to break this. My girlfriend's obsessed with RuPaul's Drag Race, so I might have to get her and Everly this RuPaul doll.
Starting point is 00:14:54 So I'm very excited now. Oh, that's, no, RuPaul's Drag Race. is fabulous television steve's shaking his head why aren't you getting a mayor humdinger toy adam you should get one for me that's how he sounds i'm the best character in the world that's a really good impression of your humdinger the the there's so there's i'm pretty sure there's two mayors in paw patrol one bad and one is good yeah the good mayor is just kind of generic and they're uh good way is that's a bad mayor with her pet chicken chicoletta yeah yeah uh we're getting jk rowling level name mayor humdinger is a uh an old-ish uh mustachioed
Starting point is 00:15:37 purple villain who has a kitty patrol as well and so he tries to dress the cats up but of course the cats don't execute on anything a human being wants because they're cats oh no and he drives his own briefcase like he sits on his briefcase which also is a cat thing right where he puts all the cats he's always scamming jesse yeah and then they always let him away with it he's like oh wow and then and then i don't trust the electorate of foggy bottom they keep electing this guy and they should roll sounds fun yeah well watch this foggy bottom they're cops also the cops i've always wondered who's funding this operation it's a pretty right a lot of money involved a lot of there was a whole thing on like drug conspiracy youtube years ago that paw patrol was like a
Starting point is 00:16:21 communist manifesto and like it was like it got all super dark like everything did for a while there and uh i see it means a production yeah exactly do you think the firefighter uh the paw dog there is is pushing cocaine no also everly went as him uh for halloween okay marshall so everly everly would know if marshall's doing marshall was on the level he's a mess right like he's the he's the klutz so he would be the one to no he'd spill it oh so he wouldn't be organized enough that's right okay i'm right oh whoa whoa also his name's marshall fire marshall yes what are the other do they have funny names i would have known if you'd asked me this two years ago i would have been able to name them off she stopped watching it yes because she's
Starting point is 00:17:07 outgrown it rubble which is the construction worker sky and rubble has his own spin-off show yeah he does sky is it better than like joey's rubble and crew is it successful it's uh oh yeah no rubble and crew is doing way better than joey okay um so there's fraser so there's chase who's the the cop dog and he chases you down chases on marshall obviously he's a fire marshal sky's the pilot rocky is like the green bin guy you know he's like that guy uh rubble is like i said the construction worker zuma is like something to do with the water i think and then um there's also everest who's like a snow dog and tracker everest tracker who's like a spanish south american dog that helps protect the rainforest wow yeah that's a lot of different things there is jesse it's
Starting point is 00:18:02 captain planet with dogs i don't really remember captain planet you never saw the captain planet I don't remember. You're wrong. I'm playing it with you. Anyway, let's get to the questions. We have a bowl full of questions. As we did on Monday's episode, we will go through and answer your questions out there. Steven, you're up.
Starting point is 00:18:24 That was some good shuffling. I think I did a good job. I tried to pick one. Okay. Question. Stinkface McPoop Lightning sent... sent who is always asking good questions yeah yeah november 20th 2 53 p.m why is the winter classic on new year's eve this year instead of new year's day i feel robbed of my annual
Starting point is 00:18:53 tradition of watching outdoor hockey whilst hungover and crushing mimosas um let's start with a uh let's answer your question with a question who is playing is this chicago and st louis uh the winter classic this year is the chicago st louis game yeah where is first chicago wrigley field no way not like st louis um i don't know i guess they're trying something different here you go you want to answer yeah new year's eve was chosen as the date for the winter classic as opposed to its traditional new year's day scheduling in response to the expansion of the college football playoff from four teams to 12 teams beginning in the 24-25 postseason. So there you go. The Winter Classic had been on a steady decline in ratings,
Starting point is 00:19:44 one exacerbated by the move to the cable-only TNT sports in 2022, and the move to the less crowded slot on New Year's Eve afternoon is intended to make the event something very unique on that day so like on new year's day we're getting so much college football that it's going to get buried why not try new year's eve so that they can get more ratings all right much of the game will take place in the gap between the texas bowl and the fiesta bowl so they've actually strategically planned it in the middle of two bowls that games that are taking place on new year's eve so there's some method behind the madness i i hate the nhl always like it i don't know taking the defensive position when it comes to tv but like yeah it is objectively
Starting point is 00:20:28 the smart thing to do i like it and and you know what uh uh everything kind of goes dead in uh in that kind of weird zone between like seven and or even like five and like eight whenever the new year shows come on like with seacrest and stuff like dick clark's new year's rock and eve with ryan seacrest the hardest title to remember in all of entertainment getting done during the day Yeah, because we're all warming up No, I like it, I don't mind it I'm sure there will be hockey on New Year's Day though Leafs play
Starting point is 00:21:01 New Year's Eve, do they not? I don't know Wouldn't be the last time, or the first time I want to say the 30th, not the 31st Let's check this out Nope, I'm right They play the 31st, the Islanders at 1 o'clock Oh, it's a home and home
Starting point is 00:21:16 And then they play the Islanders on the 2nd At 7.30 they're gonna play the islanders three times in two weeks which is a mess brutal cool all right scheduling nhl sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and they're way around on that it's like well it's a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a
Starting point is 00:21:49 second what if i don't want to i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing chemicals you gotta have the right chemicals see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700,000 home repairs, 1.5 million moves and counting. Go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list. $15 off your first task at TaskRabbit.ca or on the TaskRabbit app using the promo code DANGLE.
Starting point is 00:22:26 Taskers across Canada book up fast, especially for same-day tasks. Get $15 off your first task right now with the promo code DANGLE at TaskRabbit.ca or the TaskRabbit app. You should download that. TaskRabbit.ca. Code DANGLE. From Derp. At what time? 8.21 a.m.
Starting point is 00:22:44 So Derp woke up and said, fellas, I have a dire question. When are you going to do a live show in the U.S.? It always sounds so fun. Dying to go. And you know that your first show has to be Boston. Okay. So we can't really quite say yet, but we're pretty darn sure it's going to happen in 2025. Also, we've done American shows before.
Starting point is 00:23:03 We were in Nashville a year and a half ago. So not first show. We've done American shows before. We have. And this one's going to be an interesting locale. i'm pushing for at least two although i gotta get steve and jesse around the bend on one of them because it's a unique location uh not doing it no i refuse but um but i definitely think that that's our goal is each year we're trying to up the amount of shows we're able to do in the states
Starting point is 00:23:29 it's just it's again it's a small company and here's the great thing the exchange rate's freaking brutal right now oh it's so expensive oh yeah yeah it's only getting worse too yeah it's great um but yeah we should have an american show coming up yep yeah at least one maybe two uh this is from richie who is a devil's yankees giants fan oh god at least one of them's good hi guys and mad dog i'm a huge fan of the season previews that you do for each team before the season careful with the overs steve you know would you consider doing a season reviews for each team after the season to go over it um we do actually last year we the last like episode that is before the playoffs somebody on the discord actually usually chronicles our like hey this is how we
Starting point is 00:24:21 did in a nice handy dandy excel sheet and we usually go over how we did from the season previews on that last episode of the season so you can expect that uh this year again don't imagine we wouldn't do it no that's always such a fun exercise it's the best to see how what we were thinking and like how it actually played out well it's the best that's what what makes hockey fun yeah i like the logic behind it like it's not just oh you thought this like no why no like that season when we were all high on buffalo and then they fucking second and then they collapsed is that two years ago yeah it would have been two years ago i believe but like there was a method behind the madness we were trying to reason like okay this team's here they're gonna take a step
Starting point is 00:25:02 well they gotta get good eventually yeah and none of it held true yeah this year it was chicago and the team we just all completely whiffed on is nashville yeah man that'll be fun to talk about you know the crazy thing about nashville is they also whipped on nashville so i don't feel so bad the rangers rangers too man we're all gonna whiff on that if that plays out how we think it will I think I had them first in the division over Jersey. I had Jersey first. Rangers second. I don't remember.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Probably first. From George, October 29th, 1026. Steven. Not a question, but there's a Quiznos in Markham, and then it's a Google map link to Quiznos. So this is because we went to our show in Oshawa, and Maddie and Justin and I were walking down the street, maddie and justin they started sprinting towards this building that looked like a quiz nose and
Starting point is 00:25:57 they got to the quiz nose and it was actually a closed quiz nose because they've taken away all the quiz nose in the gta except apparently someone says that there is a markup a markham location for quiz nose look for that live show so let's go find a quiz nose oh hold on maddie Toasted tastes better. Let's go. So, it doesn't, I wonder if it's still open because it doesn't look like. Call them. It's not on the map of Quiznos.
Starting point is 00:26:31 Call them. Order us. Here. That's funny. I'm looking at the Quiznos map, too, and I'm like, I'm not seeing it. Oh, yeah. No, here we go. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:39 There are some locations left. Okay. All right. There's so many. What are you talking about? Look at all this. There's like six. That's a lot.
Starting point is 00:26:49 There's one in Markham. Oh, this Oshawa one's closed. So this might not be a true map. There's a lot of them. I'm looking at their website. There's a lot of them in Saskatchewan and like Lloydminster, Alberta, Wainwright, Fort Saskatchewan, which is in Alberta. Weird. Selkirk.
Starting point is 00:27:11 And one in Edmonton. St. Catharines. I should have got one on Saturday. A few Saturdays ago. They had a big run. They had a run. They had a good run. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:21 They had Don Cherry, man. Don Cherry is their spokesperson. That's crazy. Those didn't taste better. Here, Matty. Wow. I assume a lot of those dots on the map are closed locations. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Because the Oshawa one is on there, right? When are we going to get a Netflix doc on the Quiznos story? Probably never, man. Like a tale of corporate greed or something. It's usually that. right isn't it something like that usually drone shot it's like it's the guys that uh street the guys that ran cameo uh thought one of them used to make like these outlandish statements like they thought that cameo was such a world-changing idea that they were going to be able to be like
Starting point is 00:28:04 our goal is to be the next disney is what they said what yeah and it's crazy because cameo has has gone through a lot of struggles lately although uh people are still on it like there's you can still get them steve's still on it but financially these guys sold out of the company before the crash hit and so they were able to make a pile of cash and and all the quiz are the quiznos all the cameo owners are are you know super rich beyond their wildest dreams but they were like they spent a lot of money on some stuff that just was not relevant to their business and all they would have had to do was hang on to their business it's also a uh i don't understand the biggest people on cameo like i don't you would think it's like huge celebrities i don't
Starting point is 00:28:51 know who most of these people are yep there is an interesting story here with the collapse of quiznos there's a 2018 article i knew uh done by restaurant business on a brief history of quiznos's collapse and this was back in 2018 it's only gotten worse since then i love this the story is there is actually fairly look at the market share i'm gonna read the first paragraph because it uh or the first two couple paragraphs here because it points it paints a good picture of quiznos between 2007 and 2017 quiznos shrunk from 4 700 us locations to fewer than 400 wow we can find no other example of a chain that had grown to that size that has shrunk that much in such a short period of time. So how does this happen? It's easy to forget how successful Quiznos was
Starting point is 00:29:41 back in the day. The chain was a rapidly growing threat to Subway in the early 2000s with innovative national ads. To put the chain's 4,700 unit size in 2007 perspective, Arby's and Firehouse Subs today operate a combined 4 300 locations which just goes to show you that unit count doesn't matter when it comes to chain size um those 4 700 locations were built on a weak foundation of low unit volumes and low profits and then he goes on to explain a whole massive stuff in this article wow uh about its downfall but there let me guess it's private equity that bought it sold all the valuable shit and then the restaurant didn't survive and in 2006 a private equity firm ccmp capital advisors bought a minority stake in quiznos from consumer capital part leverage the buyout of
Starting point is 00:30:29 the company for hundreds of millions of dollars and then and then the crash hit in 09 and then blah blah oh yeah the recession there it is there it is every time it's the same every time the free sub promo and subway's five dollar foot long offer came just as the recession hit the recession was bad on the restaurant industry as consumers cut back on dining out. In 2009, there was an absolute decline in restaurant sales, according to the federal data, a remarkably rare event. Quiznos was hit very hard. Today, Quiznos has kept closing its U.S. units, and that's only continued. In Canada, there's only a handful left. That's crazy. Yeah. It was on top for a while there, man. Yeah, Quiznos. Hey, man, that was a fun little... Thank you for that. What the hell? I love that,
Starting point is 00:31:16 that was gonna be five seconds of uh maddie all right man maddie how much did you love quiznos what was your favorite order i loved it so much um what would i i don't even remember what i would get like i think i just got whatever i got at subway but i just like the sandwich better but toasted always toasted always it's better um yeah i used to get it after baseball games when i was younger damn it's fun nice you don't remember your your go-to sandwich uh i'd probably get like everything i love just like putting everything on my sandwich really like what meat like turkey bacon ham oh so you do the full like yeah cold cut arm yeah cold cuts i love not not meatballs oh delish i love the meat all right next up all right anchovies from montreal fan this is clearly
Starting point is 00:32:06 about lane hudson so just keep that in in it's from fran moe do you think my favorite defenseman only has one goal do you think in the next 10 to even 20 years a defenseman win the heart trophy especially in today's high scoring nhl what does it take for a defenseman to win that trophy no i think it's possible i mean kale mccarr disappointed a little bit uh after his after the avalanche won the cup like people were talking about kale like he could win the heart yeah um i think he still could i think he still could too i mean it's difficult in a world where like how many how many defensemen won the heart during wayne gretzky's career right think the answer is zero right um like it's it's really really hard the dudes who score all the goals
Starting point is 00:32:57 and all the points will always get uh like an unfair advantage but guys break through yep um So, I guess the question might be, or my answer might be, yes, a defenseman is going to win the Norris. No, it's not going to happen while Connor McDavid lives and breathes in this league. Got it. Okay. I think that's fair. Who was the last to do it?
Starting point is 00:33:20 It was... Chris Pronger. Chris Pronger, I think, yeah. Chris Pronger in 99-2000, last defenseman to win the Norris Trophy. Carey Price is the last non-forward to win it. 2015. uh nikita kucherov last non-center to win wow back in 1819 jeez okay um outliers always happen yeah we we see in history through sports that'll go through a cycle where one guy has an unbelievable
Starting point is 00:33:51 season and there's a down year from the forward crop and he gets it you know when will a forward win the heart trophy again like that that'll be the question that we ask when will the forward when a norse trophy is going to happen all right next up die folio what were the potential knee injuries per 60 from the bubble soccer at the kingston frontenacs game oh yeah everyone thinks that was hard on the knees i didn't fall on my knees once did you falling is actually it makes it really easy the part is the running because you can't you can't you just keep slipping but when you fall it's a very comfy fall you can't yeah i didn't believe you cannot believe fathom understand how tiring that is that oh man is it exhausting dude you go for a run and like you know
Starting point is 00:34:45 you go okay i don't know and then your body warms up and you're like i can do it and then you slowly over time feel yourself you know lose energy a little bit bubble soccer or bubble sumo whatever we were doing yeah fun fun fun fun fun i am a dead person it's like sprinting you know you're immediately just going full full bore and you just eventually run out of energy it was so tiring it's i i got my one real good run at jesse from behind just not clean at all and about 30 seconds after that i was finished yeah and this year it was worse than last year because last year we played like you're actually trying to kick a ball into the goal yeah this year was just sumo which is knock people out of the circle so just all strength all running yeah it was it was awful
Starting point is 00:35:37 and jesse you had a harder time this year because last year i wore boots yeah they gave me extra traction on the ice it was actually a sneaky advantage and this year i should have a regular running shoes and it was off did you notice your feet getting cold too because the ice freezes your heels a little bit i might my feet got like instantly cold and i'm never cold i was not cold. It was frigging hot. Just my feet, though. That's why I noticed it, right? Because you're hot. No, I was sweating too much to be cold. I enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:36:01 It was fun. Steve, next question. Oh, it's right in front of me. That's pretty cool. Let's go with this one from Tanman1038. This was sent at 9.03 a.m. over their coffee.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Why do so many players publicly go to bat for Mitch Marner oh my gosh bless you bless you for asking this so i don't have to bring it up myself why do so many players publicly go to bat for mitch marner and not the other three all we hear lately is people supporting this guy it could be a contract thing but we never hear any of that for tavaris yeah adam oats does it on uh the cam and strick podcast and i go that's strange what's Marner's relation to Adam Oates and then Zach Bogosian does it on the Cam and Strick podcast and they were former teammates and then Bogosian does it on the radio in Toronto and
Starting point is 00:37:02 then Luke Shen gets asked about it and he goes and he talks about how he's unfairly treated and but when did it become mandatory to like when did it become a prerequisite to talk about this person and you can't be like hey i don't know about that decision to pass i don't know about that back check there i don't know maybe you should have taken a different route here you can never talk about him the way you talk about any other star in this league you have to be like i need to start with he's a great person okay he's a great person and how dare you accuse me of saying anything otherwise that being said you know i think he might have it's weird and unusual i think it's because he does take first off i think the players the reason the players are answering the
Starting point is 00:37:53 question is because they're being asked yes yeah two he does have the most media scrutiny in this market and it has nothing to do people keep saying oh it's because he's a hometown guy no it doesn't has nothing to do with that everything with this guy was squeaky clean most popular guy on the team until the contract negotiation. His agent ruined his reputation. I can't, I keep going through this. When Matthew signed a deal, the next day his agent's like,
Starting point is 00:38:18 that's a bullshit contract. And that literally was what he had in the Toronto Star. I'll never forget it. And then the, you know, oh, he could have got 14 million from Columbus and the negotiation and that. Exactly. And I think then you compound that
Starting point is 00:38:34 with the fact that the Leafs have had little to no playoff success. Mitch Marner has scored, if you go and look up, he's scored I think the most amount of points in this era of any of the guys in the core four. But there have been notable times where they haven't gotten the game that they needed out of him. And I would point to the Montreal series. I think when, you know, he, you know, against Boston, I just don't, you know, with Nylander and Matthews out, it was really difficult. But like, you know, you need your guy to be that guy. and I think Matthew's led the team in points
Starting point is 00:39:07 Willie and goals both of them miss games that's the thing I mean Tavares could have fucking scored too yeah he was bad yep so it's gotten better but yeah so that's so that's the thing I think that there's a lot of that and I think when you're making this is the deal man if Mitch goes in and he signs for nine and a half
Starting point is 00:39:23 no one says a thing about that contract nope and ever in fact he is still the most popular player on the team when did he not get what he wanted when you push like at what point in the process did he not get exactly what he wanted when you push like that the and and the team doesn't succeed and then the cap doesn't go up and then they're not able to augment the team because of the salaries right because the cap was supposed to go up um
Starting point is 00:39:46 you can't quote unquote de-emphasize the core four for half a decade this is what happens so that's why most of the noise around marner doesn't come from the media and it doesn't come from him either no it comes from his people yep the people around him uh have done him no favors the moment they shut the fuck up please shut the fuck up and they have i think he might actually have a good time as a leaf recently they have good good wait until talks go south well we'll see we'll see god i i he's so good yeah he's so damn good and a great person um listen if the way he's been this season continues into the playoff yeah what are we doing i he is a player who more than anyone else i just heavily scrutinize who is telling me the information and i i think about why i'm being
Starting point is 00:40:43 told this information and where i'm getting it from thank you for asking that question i think you're asking the right ones doug penguins fan now that jesse has reporting credentials does adam like the name jesse blake sports report or good question i thought it was if it was a penguins fan i was like well i'm in trouble now i think jesse blake credentialed sports reporter there's a lot of words yeah the jesse blake credentialed sports report how about them apples um listen i'm not going to change my views on the name of the show but one thing has always remained the same which is i'm a big believer in the person hosting it so how's that is that fair is that give me the ball um if anybody wasn't around in what was it 2022 yeah um adam hates the name
Starting point is 00:41:38 jesse blake sports report yeah because he's a hater it's not it's not a sharp name like quiz knows you know what is what it's not a name that grabs you like quiz knows what does that mean you know you know what like ccma partners capital llc you know kpmg it's not a great name like dangle yeah fuck yeah when did you come up with that 2007 and why it's a stupid high school joke yeah yeah yeah do you want to retell it no read read the first book uh this question it's not that great of a story which is why yeah it's in the book he made the book along with all the zoo stories um this question is from maddie uh who contributed to the question of bulls is there a dream venue all of you
Starting point is 00:42:28 would love to do a live show in uh what's the one on princess not princess margaret that's the fucking hospital what's the one on young street are you thinking young and princess elgin theater i for me it's massey hall oh massey hall that'd be cool yeah massey hall would be great uh because it's what two thousand twenty five hundred can we do skydome no i don't think we're taylor swift level just yet i think i would love to do something like that we will open for kendrick and sZA i like it that's what we're gonna do damn on on drake's birthday damn yeah on his freaking birthday is it actually no his birthday is in october yeah i don't uh he makes a big deal out of that um oh yeah massey hall would be sick um yeah winter garden theater is
Starting point is 00:43:14 only 1410 probably do that yeah i'd like to do like 21 49 what's massey massey hall capacity is 2752 yeah and it's it's like the it's it's it's our carnegie hall right it's our big rich family built this 120 years ago and it's gorgeous and it just got renovated and all the big bands have played there i think did you ever play it with your band no we never made it that we did the elmo combo and roy thompson's two six roy thompson see roy thompson's more like high-end art though have you been to roy thompson i have once yeah it's it's that's a little bit more like if we were a string orchestra yeah but that's still funny yeah like imagine and they do like lord of the rings on yeah but with the light i think that'd be hilarious us in there just after
Starting point is 00:44:07 some string section doing um the the blade soundtrack yeah and then what the fuck and then we come up and steve's like you know mitch marner and his dad i didn't say his dad everybody in their suit and tie goes fucking crazy like i think that'd be hilarious that's just me yeah no you're right you're right um yeah all those venues are kind of similar capacity in the just below three matt massey's always been my i've been to history the the one that drake and live nation launched in my neighborhood and uh it's really cool um that would be another good one too but it's a stand-up venue um yeah we want seats you do want seats yeah that's 2500 history is oh is it yeah okay yeah i know i think that would be cool that would be like a i think for
Starting point is 00:44:49 a podcast i mean listen i know that some in this in um in this in the uk podcasts are exploding you know because the uk loves radio loves its own television loves its own podcast a few shows that i listen to uh are by a company called goal hanger and their whole thing is uh disagree agreeably so they have things like uh they have one of the number one shows on the on earth which is like two dusty historians talking about history and it's blown people away how popular this show is and it's called the rest is history and then there's the rest is politics and then there's rest is entertainment and they're launching all of these shows and like they did the rest is entertainment did royal albert hall where like adele and dua lipa recorded their concert specials
Starting point is 00:45:35 royal albert hall is like huge uh i think it's like 5 000 people or something like that so it's we could do that if we gathered everybody together we could fill out we might be able to fill out the maple leaf yeah the uh i don't know canadian bar in london i also want to get better at our live shows before we go to that level like we we can always improve right you know like of course we can always make our live experiences better i think they are better than they were five years ago but you just have to progress and and get there we're one company right you know who did a podcast at madison square garden you know the you know the comedian who made the uh porto rogan pocket the porto rico joke at tony hinge tony hinge cliff he did
Starting point is 00:46:19 two nights at madison square garden wow he's like podcast damn so kill tony yeah yeah i don't know i think i mean it's a huge show we should aspire to higher things absolutely maybe we could do msg two nights so when do we when do we start with the comedy because the comedy category in podcasting is the biggest category right yeah we'd have to be super funny all the time first we show up out of nowhere
Starting point is 00:46:43 on stage with Pierre Pauly now let's pick a group yeah we dial up the racism a little who's got it coming who are we punching down on who are we punching down on oh you're bullied
Starting point is 00:46:59 let's do it all right let's and then when people get mad at us just say it's only a joke yeah we're comedians hey you know what i want to do i want to spend two hours every week talking about how you can't tell jokes anymore yeah there's nothing i love than a fucking comedian bitching about that you big bunch of fucking feels like that's the only bit in comedy these days whenever i see a comedian doing a joke it's about how they can't tell jokes comedy is it's so catastrophic place it's so fun and it's not for the reason that most people think yeah it's there are some really great comedians though that are on the rise who's that guy with the the mustache who's sort of like he he did the he did snl after being fired as an snl writer oh shane shane gillis
Starting point is 00:47:40 some of the stuff he does i'm like that is amazing like the the commercial he did where he it's he and the ostrich and the insurance company the ostrich shoots one of the people applying for insurance on snl no have you ever seen that no you know there's like an ostrich commercial where it's a yellow background it's fucking awesome i've only seen a couple hilarious yeah there's some there are some people on the rise as there is but i am so bored of comedians with podcasts yeah it says a guy with a podcast he's not even good enough to be a comedian yeah but we don't get out in front of our massive platform every single show and go you can't say anything anywhere and then proceed to say everything you want to say on that podcast to millions of people
Starting point is 00:48:20 and you have millions of fans but you're persecuted and you can get booked in every fucking city as well by the way you talk to the other crazy parties they get booked everywhere talk to seven or eight digits worth of people every week with six seven eight nine digits in the bank yeah and you can't say anything what you are the platform where people say things it's like standing on top of like a golden balcony to your constituents going i can't say anything oh god and then they all chant your name back at you and then go back inside your house and feel and you know what's wild about it too is that those guys are often the ones who are like i hate these people playing the victim mentality no and that's their entire brain horrible anyway let's move on let's
Starting point is 00:49:04 move on we got a next you're up next question oh even massey hall i'd love to do that oh my god that would be a dream uh i keep getting the morning questions matthew w 9 21 a.m hey guys i heard on an ad that jesse went to mykonos and santorini in greece um where did you stay in greece you just mykonos and santorini what the um how long were you in greece did you go on a cruise thank you and take care hashtag the presser um i was in greece the summer of 22 mykonos we were there for about a week and like 10 days i want to say and we stayed in mykonos and we stayed in santorini but there's one day um we we went i'll tell this story we took the wrong ferry to when we were going to santorini oh because you gotta you gotta obviously ferry over there's no
Starting point is 00:50:10 like planes or anything when you're when you're this poor guy you get on this giant ferry boat and they leave a couple times a day and then they'll ferry you over to Santorini. And we were being herded like cattle by Greece security guards and cops who had machine guns with them. And they're guarding the doors to the ferry. And me and Gabby were there and we're like,
Starting point is 00:50:34 oh, I guess this is ours. And there's no one to ask because they're all just yelling at you to get on this ferry and we got on the wrong ferry. And also Greek letters are impossible to read. Greek letters are impossible. And we get on this ferry and they check everybody's ticket. Once you get on the ferry and it has left the dock, somebody comes around and checks your ticket and says, oh, you know what?
Starting point is 00:50:58 This isn't a ticket for this ferry. You got to go somewhere else. First of all, why isn't this done when you're getting on? And secondly, once you're on there, you're just fucked because it's not going to stop for you alone. It's a giant ass ferry. so the the woman first of all made us pay for a ticket for the ferry whoa you for the wrong ferry that we're on ripping you off and it's not cheap i think it was like a 40 ferry ride in in euros or whatever it was the so it's like triple canadian yeah so we had to pay the 40
Starting point is 00:51:29 dollars for the that ferry ride 40 euros yeah 40 40 euros like you're saying dollars but i'm just saying dollars it's 40 euros oh my god for that ferry ride on the wrong ferry plus we don't get payment back for the ferry ride we paid for that we weren't on so we get double fucked with that so we're paying triple because then we need to also buy a ferry ride for when we come back so we went to this random island i want i forget the name of it um it was so it was so tiny where this ferry was going it was it was such a small little tiny um island so we stay there and we ate for like four hours waiting for the next ferry to send us back to mykonos and then we had to find a hotel for that one night in mykonos because we already missed all of the ferries to santorini so we had
Starting point is 00:52:17 to pay for an extra night in mykonos to stay there so we can get up the next morning and then go to santorini because the last ferry from that island back to mykonos wasn't in time to catch the last ferry to santorini i really hope the island that you stayed on it's probably too big but was peros because it's you know between mykonos and santorini it might be was it peros or cora there's also a cora it's if i if i had enough time i could just text gabby and she would probably figure it out i'm just looking through the mediterranean and you covered not an insignificant amount of water like i i yes i thought you could like see it no no this these these ferries take hours it was it was like a it was like a two-hour trip to to the island that we were going to
Starting point is 00:53:08 and um yeah it it wasn't long it wasn't a short distance and it took like two hours there on the ferry and then it took uh two hours back to mykonos and then we had to find one room to stay that night so then we stay there and then the next morning we finally get to santorini so we missed a whole day wow santorini you covered an absolutely wild amount of the earth yeah just with that mistake uh i'm trying to i'm just gonna go through i should pull up the pictures from santorini uh from greece and i just wanted to find if i could said the location i feel like like just looking at a world map it's like accidentally oh man i was supposed to go to uh oshawa but i ended up in manhattan yeah like how did you pull that off anyways that's that's my
Starting point is 00:53:57 my story of the mess of greece when we were traveling and we got on the wrong ferry but you can't wait to go back um one of the most picturesque places i've ever been um santorini is an incredible place um the way that we stayed on one of the like cliffside hotels when you're out looking out you're looking over like the rest of the world it's incredible um so it's not like those tiktoks where there's too many people and someone's playing the recorder no that wasn't our experience it was like it was really nice i got to drive an atv all over the island because that's how a lot of people get around you know because the roads are so windy and i drove an atv around the side of a cliff um it was incredible mykonos is big party city a lot of beach clubs and that
Starting point is 00:54:43 sort of stuff we didn't frequent all that we were just on the beaches and in town but santorini was my favorite easily that's cool that was my first time ever in europe oh man great place to start great place to start great place to start maddie our european tour guide could probably tell you where to go but uh maddie where should jesse's second place in europe be actually we've talked about this a lot um i think you should go to spain i think you would love sevilla is like the most beautiful place and it's not too expensive like a cheaper more authentic version of barcelona spain's really hot right now like a lot of right now no it's not are going to it's like perfect temperature no i mean like not in terms of temperature
Starting point is 00:55:21 that's what i thought even no no not in terms of temperature in terms of tourism yeah that is true destination to go to i should say in english um yeah so i imagine be very busy but like everything i've seen about spain looks gorgeous where's your guys's favorite places in europe london london is my favorite place in all of europe um it's great and i love paris and i loved italy and uh but i will tell you that london is just uh it's such a i loved liverpool as well randomly loved it um but but london is like there's just something about that place man there's energy the weather's shit um but nobody cares the museums are incredible they've stolen all that shit too that's okay uh at least it's all in one spot um frankly they've stolen it for the good of
Starting point is 00:56:14 humanity is what they would tell you yeah that's what they would tell you but there's something about there's something about london and i've stayed downtown in bougie hotels and i've stayed in the burbs where it's real london baby um there's just something about london that is just and it's fucking huge it's so big i i probably would say london but uh i spent it was like three days there i did london wrong we did london wrong london oh we tried to speed run london while on a trip to scotland you can't and it was that was a mistake you need to commit three to four days at least uh and not speed running it my answer is edinburgh oh i've heard it's gorgeous it's awesome yeah it's awesome i mean aberdeen's a great place also but there's just not quite as
Starting point is 00:57:01 much i don't think aberdeen would say it would argue with edinburgh home of the links no uh Edinburgh is frigging awesome. All right. We got time for one more question. The random island that we ended up into was, I believe, Akira. Akira. There you go. Akira.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Akira. Okay. Adam's got the ball. Last one. What time? Philly Dilly. On December 8th, 1.23 p.m. Okay.
Starting point is 00:57:28 How about them papayas? Woo! Oh, no way. McLaren fan. I love it. Did you search through? No. That is literally what was up there.
Starting point is 00:57:36 How about them, Papayas? We won. McLaren, world champions. How about them, Apples? We got another question. Sorry. That wasn't really a question. No, it wasn't.
Starting point is 00:57:44 It was just you celebrating. How about them? They bowed it. Okay, here we go. Last one. Quinn Marr. Hi, Quinn. In honor of Julian McKenzie admitting his Druan will be better than McKinnon take from 2013
Starting point is 00:57:55 and for a few years after that as well, what is one of the worst hockey takes the three of you have each had? Oh, we've had some doozies. Oh, yeah. There will be a three-on-three league next season. that's not a take that was a bad that was an errant report someone reminded me recently i said something about mcdavid once um do you remember that i was at a live show and i said someone was like better than mcdavid was worse than somebody at the time i forget what it was here's the great
Starting point is 00:58:20 thing it could have been anyone any name would have been wrong yeah yeah yeah yeah i i had some bad mcdavid take i mean i didn't hate the leafs getting tyson berry for cadre at the time i didn't love it either um dennis malgan uh being okay return for uh who was it mason marchment in in university i had this really really stupid take and this was years and years and years ago but it's so stupid i still remember it me and a habs fan friend of mine we were talking hockey arguing and uh the habs had this young player who was struggling and i said he probably tops out as like a matt stajan type it was max patch ready no no way all right here's mine uh and you can hit the extra jesse as we as we go to extra my take is that the dion fan of contract was
Starting point is 00:59:26 actually really good uh he signed with the leaf seven years seven million per uh and i said that's pretty good for a number one defenseman 12 years ago if he was in his prime now and signed that contract now it would still suck 100 but you know we've grown on this show happy december 27th The Steve Dangle Podcast.
