I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
Starting point is 00:00:28 The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals. see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list 15 off your first task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app using the promo code Dangle. Starting point is 00:02:00 see the birds on the water right because that's probably the best place to see them there's no canopies in your way you just kind of you know you would just use your toyota tacoma drop that boat in the water oh yeah float around now in steve's case it's a kayak oh yeah perhaps you don't need a boat for that but steve you would you would still use the tacoma to drop your kayak in the water oh absolutely and i'd be like hey friend do you want to ride in my tacoma and you'd be like yes i'd be like well i can give you one if you admit that this was a good purchase no no he'd be like the tacoma or the kayak i'd be like i know you think the tacoma is a good purchase what about the kayak now jesse as he's dropping your kayak into the water we'll have the
Starting point is 00:02:40 panoramic multi-terrain view monitor that gives you live underfloor views to navigate even the toughest terrain and sometimes those boat launches jesse they can be tricky i i'm sad you haven't mentioned that you could just take the jbl speaker out of the tacoma throw it in the kayak yeah the speaker on your kayak that's right that's right so would you would you be playing music or bird sounds to like attract birds no i i'd i'd like a bird sounds playlist on spotify or something like that that's cheating uh-huh um no i would just go with the sounds of nature oh that's nice the sounds that nature provides that's great well listen however you want to use it shop toyota.ca visit your local ontario toyota dealer during red tag days now through the end of may
Starting point is 00:03:20 let's start the show from george on my stream the other night hey guys it's been a bit uh since the red wings were relevant but i just found out that we are closer to the most recent jogger playoff game than the last red wings playoff game oh i didn't realize that either uh yermi jogger played his last playoff game, April 24th, 2016. Red Wings played three days before that and got eliminated. No.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Yeah. Isn't that crazy? I just thought, I have nothing on the Red Wings other than that, but that's a crazy stat. I just thought you'd want to know. That's the end of the episode.
Starting point is 00:04:05 That's it right there. Goodbye. There's no Game 7 tonight. It's just, it's all about hating on Detroit for no good reason. I do want to talk about Game 7 very quickly at the top
Starting point is 00:04:13 of the show here because there is a lot obviously at stake. The person who sings the national anthems for buffalo uh tweeted out today that she will not be singing it tonight because they brought in a special guest which i think that that kind of has to suck like you did it all year when nobody thought they were anything and all of a sudden they're going to replace you for game seven but
Starting point is 00:04:34 anyway she's like i'll be back if if we make it to the next round you better nail this yeah you better be one thousand percent right those fans are already like okay we're recording right now it's 11 14 in the morning on our way in here drew sent a link fans are already tailgating in the park of course they are it's buffalo like listen buffalo takes a lot of crap okay mostly from heated rivalry how dare you but what's the city's reputation when it comes to sports oh they lose no that's the city's team's reputation right what about the fans the fans reputation is that they have an outrageously good time what a great reputation that's amazing yep and that's why they're gonna win games no i don't know and by the way i don't
Starting point is 00:05:22 know i don't know it is a long weekend up here it is not a long weekend in the states it's a long weekend if it's game seven what's the next it's memorial day weekends next weekend i hate when they don't align yeah me too yeah memorial day is next weekend yeah i thought they always aligned no no some years they're just off and it's very annoying yes it is that is annoying yeah you yeah so care for that at all um uh yeah so i mean listen i have never seen the habs die like that that that beginning of the second period they died when that first goal went and it was only what three two at that point all the second oh you're talking about the three two goal yeah the three two goal killed them to me the three goal is it was nail in the coffin but three two they were
Starting point is 00:06:07 like okay we don't know how to play hockey anymore this that shot listen dude i've been beating this drum um like listen you got to give full credit to the sabers yeah lean was good hadn't been good enough five points uh tage thompson was horrendous in game five i think he also had five points or four something like that he did he did very very well yeah he did very very well um but i've been beating this drum with all these inexperienced playoff teams you're gonna get inexperienced playoff moments and you know i took a little bit of crap for calling the series tight it's an unconventionally tight series right it was the strangest thing it was very odd no no here's the thing each team how many games in the series have been decided by
Starting point is 00:06:56 one goal and is the answer zero i believe it's zero because it's been much every time montreal has won it has been a resounding victory for montreal yeah like it hasn't been close in the games that they've won if you really if you want to be difficult about it you could argue all six games so far have been blowouts yeah right or at least four or five of them which is still an insane number it's four two sabers five one montreal six one six two montreal three two sabers there's the one okay okay six three eight eight three okay how the series is gone so so no game has been particularly close but the series has been game four game four was the weird stanchion bounce oh and then it's like okay montreal was the better team in that game but they got a little
Starting point is 00:07:41 unlucky there but they were also due to have a game that they deserve to win but lost because they've been doling that out for a month now uh listen the habs look like a team that's never played a playoff game in their life um the sabers at different times in this series looked like a team who'd never played a playoff game in their life and that was only a few weeks removed from being true yeah uh and now both of them are wow that cuts real bad yeah i'm just gonna say who hurt you that was isla um she's in the scratch state for anybody listening steve has a cut on that looks awful this is the first time i've seen it on camera it's not it's not that bad damn not yeah but that looks awful
Starting point is 00:08:23 turn the other way turn the other cheek yeah there you go wow steve you look so smooth so jesse sorry um uh i don't remember what you were saying that that both teams
Starting point is 00:08:40 have looked shitty and both teams have looked great depends on the game and now we got a game seven we're not sure who's gonna look shitty and who's gonna look great and like my kingdom for a normal montreal canadians game oh yeah no we haven't found one yet so was it was it satisfying as a leaf in seeing montreal blow a lead like that
Starting point is 00:08:59 it wasn't for one though like listen i know i have a good rapport with habs fans yeah unconventionally not like jesse though jesse's got the best jesse's got the best one because he's a pandering piece of garbage yeah all right you know he could win an election in montreal for sure oh yeah yeah oh yeah 100 can you speak french no all right zero votes but god i like you yeah you know what you're fun no listen i know i've been their cute adorable little lovable loser play thing but i did let them know how did that how because it was when it was six three uh-huh let them know wait a second sabers have scored five straight goals that means it was three one oh and then
Starting point is 00:09:57 when it was seven three i went wait a sec that's six straight goals that means it was three one and wait a second wait a second when that eighth one went in one two three four five six seven it used to be three one what happened listen shut up let me enjoy it shut up and let me enjoy it all right oh you're rooting for the sabers no you're rooting for the habs no i wanted this to go seven and it is and i said it would go seven didn't i you did i also said it'd be saber so talk to me nice okay be nice because you never know maybe maybe maybe things will go your way i don't know i don't know but they okay habs are undefeated after a loss in these playoffs dobish is unreal their penalty kill is unreal they have not lost back-to-back games since
Starting point is 00:10:49 march 14th that's unbelievable yeah but what gave me pause is after the game that those play those players looked gobsmacked yeah they were same with marty st louis he was like well it's a learning experience turn the page what else you gonna say learning experience see they put you through the boards and i gotta i gotta give a huge shout out to lindy ruff because like okay yes they were down 3-1 but i okay let's look at this game piece by piece sabers score 32 seconds in montreal canadians mix in a good start yeah this is not the first time this has happened this is not the first time it's happened to you in montreal like those fans are absolutely electric mix in a good start oh well the adrenaline okay well the other team's got that too it's the
Starting point is 00:11:41 playoffs figure it out it's not going to get any easier from here on then they score three straight goals yuck barf and gross alex lion has what i'm sure he would admit is the worst game of his entire life yeah yeah he faced three three shots i think they changed it to four it got to four okay yeah yeah on the recount the 50s to play its face three shots and not save any of them no the counter was like they give them one oh the counter was like give them one that's embarrassing yeah but like the jack i won what what on earth yeah they're all three goals were goals that he could have had uh it was evans on the two-on-one and then who had the second one doesn't matter is you that can't happen good lord that can't happen not not in an elimination i can't believe
Starting point is 00:12:28 that was in the same game sorry i just can't i know that's that's crazy to me i can't believe the doling goal was in the same game the second one was the demidoff power play goal oh okay that was pretty good yeah you can stop a goal you can stop a shot you can stop a shot but like of the three sure that's the one where i go okay fine but then there's two yeah then evan shorthanded and yeah the jack i'm a jack guy to run face off plays and clap what are we doing and then you score and then never play again he ended up playing like six minutes or something uh maybe at the end when it was out of reach he got he got some more but like midway through the 30 he had played six minutes it was ridiculous um when zucker scored it's like everyone in the
Starting point is 00:13:11 building the sabers included were like oh there's still like a bunch of time left and it kind of felt like they were going to come back felt like it then there's an intermission and you never know benson scores that early on and it felt like a brand new game and again mixing a good start and it was it was the bell center too that's the thing like it was rocking in there and then that goal happens the benson goal and then it's just dead that kid's fucking unreal he's he doesn't care he doesn't give a shit i love that guy it's fun watching him play you need little you can't teach that no you cannot teach someone to just be devoid of fucks he as an infant was placed in a void a vacuum that just took all the fucks out of him and he doesn't give any anymore because he has
Starting point is 00:14:07 none left is there something to being a young team and struggling at home because both of these teams are fantastic on the road yep and both these teams struggle at home i can see that i think the canadians only have two home wins all playoffs in both series and the buffalo sabers they went three and oh in boston so i know they don't have a bunch of road wins either or home wins either so i don't know it might be just the inexperience of these teams and a little pressure there's a little bit more pressure at home and you're a little more free on the road kate you know how fans do the whiteout and stuff like that habs fans someone should try this and might might as well be you although i guess it's too late for the series someone should just do silent night
Starting point is 00:14:49 where like it's game seven don't make a noise don't even make a sound don't applaud don't sing along with the anthem i want to hear the echo of i want i want every puck hitting the end boards to sound like a gunshot just what is it about just hockey athletes specifically where they cannot rise to the occasion at home because pressure or something the bubble was the best atmosphere for them uh yes yes and then both home teams lost immediately yeah uh oh my god but and don't make this into a canadian thing because i know it's toronto right that's where this prevails and it's montreal but buffalo yeah although this is the all canadian series so maybe it is a canada thing right i i can't explain that i don't have a good explanation for why both teams are dog shit at
Starting point is 00:15:40 home both teams by the way confirmed have two home wins all playoffs that's insane to each that's insane and uh it it should be mentioned like in games like this in a series that goes deep again the margins are nothing for the habs you had a fourth liner who was probably the worst player on the ice and cost you severely josh anderson i don't think yeah he did not i don't think he can play game seven um is it he's typically a player i would put in the game seven lineup but he was fucking awful yeah but can you just chalk that up to it's one game and tage thompson was fucking awful the game before and then was great not that josh anderson's cut the talent that tage tom well
Starting point is 00:16:23 but that's yeah you bet on talent like a far more reasonable solution with tage thompson has just put him on the wing and then they didn't he was fucking unreal yeah i think when i feel pretty clever for when you mentioned lindy ruff and giving him credit and he went through things he did in game i thought you're gonna mention pre-game all of the adjustments he made because that was a completely different sabers line i was going to do that and then i got distracted um i can go through some of the lineup they're all different yeah it was completely different all four lines benson goes up to the top line with norris and thompson good cloud centers don and tuck uh consta with uh zucker and quinn and then peyton krebs goes to the fourth line with
Starting point is 00:17:01 malenstein and greenway and then metza comes in for shen as well and like completely different four group new defensemen in there and it seemed to after that slow start for them obviously they everything started clicking and it seemed like everybody with that with their new lines got like a mentality shift and i was like okay this this feels a lot better with with who we're paired up with here on our on our four group bless luke shen i thought he handled the puck like a football right and then metza comes in and he i don't think he played very much also like now that especially because we're heading into game seven your third pair should be a near non-factor like for both teams just doling if you're if you're and and lane hudson for montreal just roll them out 30
Starting point is 00:17:45 minutes you have doling byram and power you got to be chemo teaming in in with the chicago blackhawks run where he played like four minutes lane hudson shouldn't come off the ice no dobson i think he's been getting better and better and better i thought he was terrible at the end of the tampa series but he was just coming back he's been getting better and better and better play the wheels off a hudson the wheels off a dobson i'm bullish on the pro matheson train i know he was bad i do um but he's not regularly bad no no that's i have a lot of confidence in montreal for game seven here because the matheson carry a line was the worst i've ever seen the play in carry was actually kind of poor yeah the history of hockey like no line was worse than that in
Starting point is 00:18:27 that game and that's not what they've been all playoffs they've been solid and and they matheson hasn't been this player and i think i think the uh i had the stat here how they were outshot i think it was 12 nothing geez at five on five they had zero shot attempts i know that for sure i forgot how many shot attempts the buffalo sabers had but um montreal when they had those two guys on the ice zero shot attempts at five on five that's not gonna happen again i don't think i think they're gonna be a solid pair so if you can just limit that damage there they were on the for that first goal that happened 40 seconds in or whatever it was i think montreal just get back to their game and we remember like that tampa game seven they were outplayed a lot dobish was
Starting point is 00:19:09 fantastic he was unreal i don't think dobish is going to be as bad he was last game no and i think their defense will probably be a lot better than what we saw so there is should be some confidence for montreal going into that this could be the best game seven of the playoffs oh boy this could be because you know how many we even have the tampa one uh was that the only one no i think we've had other game sevens have we have another i don't even i don't even this is and we have two more rounds so we might have some more but this one's so cool because these are two teams that are so inexperienced you just do not know what you're gonna get period to period shift to shift every stream has been completely unhinged like leafs go into game seven it's like ah we can
Starting point is 00:19:50 predict how this is going to go we were able to predict five six seven yeah yeah it was the only seven by the way it was oh it was okay the first round only featured that game seven and yeah second round look at your memory man i'm sorry that's pretty funny i know it's great i've streamed two seven game series like some habits die hard this is you have to let's check in the box for i hate gary betman um his defense of this stupid playoff system is always we get the best matchups we get the best series the playoffs are the best this year it hasn't yielded a whole bunch of game sevens no it has the second round suck the second round was kind of wasn't that great yeah from a drama from a drama standpoint yep you know yeah well you got except for this series carolina's
Starting point is 00:20:32 just chilling colorado's just chilling someone uh was it myrtle someone put together the total rest carolina has gotten in these playoffs and it's something like it's over 20 days it's uh it's a record it's an all-time record for a team in a playoff now i'll say this carolina deserves that they won their division yeah but they deserve it yeah well get good uh carolina deserves it they won the conference so does colorado they deserve it this is they deserve the favorable matchups it's everybody else that i got a problem with you know who's yeah you know what you're right they deserve it you know you know who's actually like really got to earn their money uh is the sports science team of the avalanche and the sports science team of the hurricanes how do you
Starting point is 00:21:19 keep these guys in game shape i think they'll be okay i think they'll be okay you have nathan mckinnon on one side of rod brendamore on the other yeah well avalanche have a bunch of banged up players though that'd be enough to scare me off sugar for years yeah so i think they'll be okay rod brendamore comes in as just a set of traps and veins yeah he flies in using his traps like just and his lats he just flies in with his lats and yeah yeah oh hey man here wait i'll be right down and he jumps off the roof and gently glides onto the hey so you can gain shape or what yeah so anyway uh let's uh i want to hold the predictions because we have to do the bad mgm big story and i want to get your predictions there is that cool is that fair can we do that
Starting point is 00:22:05 The Hurricanes will have played eight games in 36 days by the time the conference finals starts. They're 12 days off between playoff games. It's the longest layoff in NHL playoff history. Amazing. 12 days off. Worth mentioning that I'll be streaming the, not the Carolina Hurricanes,
Starting point is 00:22:25 I'll be streaming the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights starting Wednesday thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes. Hurricanes better not screw this up. You're fighting for lazy people. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't screw this up for us. Okay, so let's do the bad MGM big story.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Sometimes life throws you curveballs and you don't have time to get to them. And that's where TaskRabbit comes in. And I think you should check this out because here's the deal. One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor

Starting point is 00:23:04 I don't have the stuff because you've got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing. The chemicals. You've got to have the right chemicals. See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I used TaskRabbit and I employed a tasker. Here's the thing. TaskRabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly, home repairs, lawn maintenance, mounting, window cleaning, all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Here's the deal. 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled, 700,000 home repairs, 1.5 million moves and counting. Starting point is 00:23:59 That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research. Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer. Register today at pmcfwalk.ca. you know it is hard to believe but we haven't done a podcast since the vegas golden knights were fined a hundred thousand dollars excuse me torts was fined a hundred thousand dollars and the vegas golden knights were docked a second round pick and it's this year's draft and it
Starting point is 00:24:37 is something we did talk about on friday and you know what jesse i gotta hand it to you bullying works uh or in our case raising awareness because there was a lot of people in the media going yo this is bullshit what are they doing and i i i how about pissing off the nhl repeatedly doesn't I floated the suggestion. It's like, hey, just go through the proper channels. We can't do this every time. And I think you can do it every time, actually. And I've come off my point and just want to say that I was wrong.
Starting point is 00:25:02 Because $100,000 fine for torts directly. I think Aaron Portsline had his career. $262,000? Yeah, it's a crazy amount of money he's been fined by the NHL in the past. And the NHL docked the Vegas Golden Knights a second round pick this year. Which means I don't believe they draft until the third round now. That's right. They don't pick – so this will be pick 62, 3, 4, or 5, I believe.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Yep. And then now they're not picking until nearly pick 100, somewhere between 95 and 100. Now, this all goes back to what happened last – after game six. So Marner and Brett Howden were rushed to the podium. They said, you got 10 minutes or we're leaving. um and uh it was all it was a little bit like i it felt to me like they were trying to do the florida panthers bit where it's like we're too good for you fuck you guys like we're we're you
Starting point is 00:25:58 know create that environment of like it's us against the world and i get that that works in sports right sure um i found it um i found it a little bit just haphazard though like the panthers were really good at it like they're going out to dairy queen and stuff like that these guys like we don't have time to sit and talk about how great we were in the game screw you guys torts obviously did not do the media I think there was one scrum to the side with another player as well that was it and um you know I couldn't help but think and I wanted to float this thing to you guys part of me wonders if you know the news about the Vegas Golden Knights holding back Bruce Cassidy had a part to play in this too like is the NHL just like can you guys listen we've got rules
Starting point is 00:26:41 and then we've got ways we do things yes those are the rules but this is the way we do things please knock it the fuck off and you know what i don't blame vegas for pushing the limit but that's a blatant cba violation that you didn't need to do well i i also like completely understand where vegas is coming from we don't want to give a capable coach to a divisional rival the nhl is run by people and people aren't perfect and you can't tell me that they don't that that wasn't at least a two percent feature into their decision making yeah now i don't think there's a chance in hell torts pays that fine i think that'll be the vegas golden knights that no oh no no no no adam he's gonna roll up his sleeves and he's gonna plant those trees i don't know that torts
Starting point is 00:27:25 i don't know that torts is even making a hundred grand for this quick run that he's on like how much are they paying him i was wondering too no there's no shot but but okay vegas being fine the second round pick that's the thing that's really big and jesse those are worth millions of dollars yeah it's a really significant pick especially to vegas if you look at their next three drafts they only had two picks in the first two rounds over the next three drafts they have one first round pick in 2028 and then that second round pick that was upcoming in this draft and now they don't have that pick so that second round that is where you are actually hurting them in the front office standpoint because they're making a hundred thousand dollars in a day
Starting point is 00:28:08 in an hour in one of these playoff games like that's that's nothing but here the nhl and i called it i did a video on friday night after this drop and thank you everybody watched it i called this a lifetime achievement award for vegas that's essentially what it is you're getting al capone for tax evasion right they they're fucking around so much and they finally got a prize for fucking around let's read the third paragraph in that statement yeah so this was the release from national hockey league national hockey league announced today that as a result of flagrant violations of the 2026 stanley cup playoffs media regulations following game six of their second round series against the anaheim ducks on thursday vegas was will forfeit a second
Starting point is 00:28:48 round pick in the 2026 nhl draft in addition gold knights head coach john torrella has been fined a hundred thousand dollars the imposition of penalties comes after previous warnings were issued to the club regarding their compliance with the media regulations and other associated policies and other associated policies guys this isn't the first time they are pissing off the league and this isn't the first time they've been warned about it and now you have something that is written down that you need to do that they said no and we can get you on this one and we're getting you on this one plus all of the other times you made us upset by skirting the rules like the bruce cassidy stuff like the stuff they are not mentioning here but are saying we've warned
Starting point is 00:29:31 them about listen anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law unless of course it's a written text message but when it comes to the vegas golden knights bill foley was on a show i don't remember which show but he was on a show after they won the stanley cup and how are you feeling after you win a stanley cup i couldn't tell you but i imagine you're feeling pretty good you're feeling pretty loose and he was asked if there was no salary cap how much would you spend on your roster and he said without a moment's hesitation 135 million and this is when the cap was lower than it is now like 81 at the time it was not close to 135 35 million money doesn't mean anything.
Starting point is 00:30:22 A hundred. We talked about this with the lease when they were fine, a hundred thousand dollars for getting on a flight 90 minutes before they were supposed to, because it was a collective bargaining agreement violation. They were fine. A hundred thousand dollars. Then they fly to the next town and they win that game by one goal.
Starting point is 00:30:43 And what did we all say the next day? Money well spent money. Well spent. Yep. Worth it. worth it so let's say vegas does wink wink nudge nudge under the table uh uh provide some relief for john tortorella vegas doesn't care about the money and the nhl has said over and over and over again stop doing that stop doing that stop doing that
Starting point is 00:31:13 and what did vegas keep doing that because nothing happened because nothing happened the draft pick gets their attention yeah no one should feel bad for them the only thing and this is why running your league like a league is so important the leg that the vegas golden knights have to stand on is give us our draft pick back you gave ottawa their draft pick back for fucking us and new jersey too but not for fucking them you idiots yeah here's how this happens here's how this ends up okay if vegas completely surrenders the pick that's how i'll know they really messed up that's how i'll know the nhl is really pissed and i think they will here's what's going to happen the nhl is going to give them their second round pick back
Starting point is 00:32:02 but it's going to be at the end of the second round no just like ottawa no i don't think so if they did i think you'd have a lot of here's the thing it's the other owners that are pissed and i think that that's that's the part where no no i like this remember this is gary finding one of his his his bosses right i know uh it's he has to have the support of the own other owners to do that and this is also collectively bargained right you got to remember that media avails while you might not care about them personally life isn't just about you shocking and they do hold organizations to account yes 99.9 percent of player quotes are bullshit but every once in a while they're pretty damn good which is why press conferences can be really fun yeah and they are a part of a feature
Starting point is 00:32:44 of the cba and they help to grow the game media helps to grow the game that's kind of part of how this works and helps to grow the cap sure of course and now the vegas golden knights said the golden knights are aware of today's announcement uh from the nhl regarding the post-game media availability following game six in anaheim the organization will have no further come here can i translate that harumph steve skepticism comes from a place of just knowledge of how the nhl has always done reality it's the reality is that they usually in these cases back down from their position i don't think this is going to be one of those cases but it's a reality that might happen you know here's what i will say ottawa whined and moaned about getting
Starting point is 00:33:29 that pick back for what three years yep vegas has like five weeks that's why i'm thinking they're not gonna get it back so that so that's a little different that's why i think they won't get it back is because when they appeal it will be fresh the appeal process is going to take place this week in new york so this isn't a story that's gonna fade away for a couple weeks and then we go back and they have their appeal and gary's like okay here's your second round pick whatever maybe it's at the end of the round or whatever this is something that's going to happen this week he's going to talk to them and everybody's still going to be angry and upset about it so i think he's going to have grounds to hold his position i also think that's my jesse if he
Starting point is 00:34:08 loses the if gary uh if gary doesn't come out uh locked in on this one like as in like getting what he said he was going to get he's going to look weak and that will be the beginning of the end of the gary betman commissionership i mean that i i do think there's that much at stake and it's Because if Gary has already given up or given back on the senators and he gives back on this and I'm not saying the senators thing was fair or whatever. I think it was totally fair. Your general manager lied and knew he was lying and made the trade anyway. And you shouldn't have that pick. But, oh, well, with Gary, like this is the we're already all waiting for him to retire.
Starting point is 00:34:46 And he keeps saying, I'm not doing it. What year is this? Yeah, well, exactly right. And so he's saying, I'm not going to retire. if he if he does not win this um then he's gonna look like shit and it will be this will be the beginning of the end yeah it will it will it can't look weak and appeal that like within seven days he would announce that they get the fine and then within seven days he'd be like okay never mind again that looks so ridiculous it's not out of the realm of possibility that the commissioner
Starting point is 00:35:13 looks ridiculous he does often but i think this one he probably holds now there's i'm of the opinion this sort of thing should happen all the time yeah this sort of thing should happen all the time if it happened all the time it wouldn't need to happen all the time there it is that that would be the does that not apply to every freaking thing yeah it does it does if it if you believe it happened all the time it wouldn't need to happen you think vegas believed anything would happen to them this time the penalties from the 2005-2006 season you know what should we let the players adjust to the new rules or should we just cave to them and they'll never learn anything and hockey will regress while it progresses yeah this is what do you think
Starting point is 00:36:00 they chose now now wait there's there's two things here number one if you're like well this is such a you know oh okay they skipped a press conference that's such a piddly thing the leafs were fined a fourth round pick do you remember why this was years and years ago i think it was the first or second year i did lfr no idea because they illegally helped jonas frogren oh yeah i do remember by his way out of his uh swedish league contract to come over to the nhl and play for them a fourth round pick for jonas frogren right the other one and this is legitimate but i'm gonna fire back at it is the chicago blackhawks violated every damn thing everything time causes people to forget if you go back and watch the 20 minute half an hour long
Starting point is 00:37:01 jenner and block report after the kyle beach saga which is still ongoing by the way did you know that it's still going in court because there's another player involved did you know that of course you didn't because we don't cover this shit properly at all still going on they paid i think it was a two million dollar fine but again it's monetary it's monetary they didn't pay a pick for that and people are like how is it that they didn't pay a pick in vegas is chicago should have absolutely paid at least one pick for that they shouldn't have picked in the first round for three years and by the way the league let them and they fucking picked logan mayu didn't they no that oh wait no no no no i'm sorry i made a mistake that was bergevin and it
Starting point is 00:37:53 was while stan bowman was on stage and never mind yeah never mind i misremembered that sorry regardless they should have docked them multiple first round picks they weren't okay fine your punishments need to mean something or they mean nothing yeah exactly vegas doesn't care about money from the owner's mouth vegas doesn't care about money and they've been in the western conference final five out of nine years in their existence we it's a copycat league who would Everyone else is going to start doing this shit too. And this is why Gary's got to win this. It's because if owners start getting the idea that like,
Starting point is 00:38:32 oh, okay, well, if that's what a habitual line stepper or line crosser gets this, I can afford that. That's why Gary find, because again, it's not money. You find a draft pick that you can't buy that back, right? You can't go make that on the stock market. You can't like a hundred grand. Who cares? It's an asset.
Starting point is 00:38:51 But a second round pick, holy shit. And for you, like Vegas. If you go and look at what they have, like they very realistically, why didn't they just spend that at the deadline? Well, they either wanted to select a player or spend it at the draft to go out and get another player.
Starting point is 00:39:08 Now they can't do that. So here's what I would do if I was John Tortorella. I would reinforce the fact that the NHL is against this and is out to get us. Oh, 100%. You've got to take this
Starting point is 00:39:20 and you've got to use this because ultimately if they win the cup, who gives a shit about the second round pick? That's just the cost of doing business. They should be called the Vegas hard done bys. They all think they're hard done by a variety of funny, right? Because it is like the most one of the most powerful organizations in the sport, one of the most successful organizations in the sport.
Starting point is 00:39:37 But they've got this great way of spinning it that, oh, well, people have forgotten about us and you underestimated us. And you know what? To be honest with you, based on the regular season, a lot of us did. I did, too. Torts comes in. They look great. How many elite athletes do we need to hear from before we come to the conclusion they're
Starting point is 00:39:53 not well-adjusted people? yeah they don't they're not and they all think they're victims the entire team yep right yep tom brady no one thought i tom brady could win and i'm gonna take it out on you and strawberries for the rest of my life weird they're weird people but whatever it does to help you win if i'm john totorella i absolutely use this and again it'll be worth every freaking Jesse, do you think it's a fair punishment? Yes. I think this is about in line with what it should be.
Starting point is 00:40:26 You know, I think when you're in your skirt and CBA rules and a second round pick means so much to Vegas that this is about where it should be. This is a good punishment. Do you think that it will hold? I do. I do. I think by the end of the week, we hear confirmation that the commissioner's office confirmed his ruling. Can I ask, is it the commissioner overseeing the appeals process? This is the appeal is to the commissioner's office as per the NHL.
Starting point is 00:40:52 So Gary Bettman is the judge, jury and executioner. This is amazing. Like that, that in and of itself, just think about process wise. And, and, you know, the great thing about this is that if you're a Vegas Golden Knights fan and you're pissed about this, you have every right to say, yeah, the process isn't fair because it isn't. The guy that punished you then gets to oversee your, your appeal. like you see sometimes you're reminded there's still a young fan base eh well i'm not saying that they will steve but i'm just saying but like i'm just saying that some some of them will that yeah oh welcome to the nhl nothing makes fucking sense yeah that is i'm not even taking that out
Starting point is 00:41:31 on you that's not a shot that's the league sticks that's legitimately there's just there's like everything is wrong with that oh yeah like that is one thing we gotta give credit the nhl for is that lately they've been so drama filled and it has been awesome to follow like last night the nba had a game seven on and the score is they won by 30 points the cavs it was disaster to watch a game seven like that and just lately the nhl has been that league that we always look at the nba and being like oh there's so much going on yeah everything's happening with the cassidy stuff the leafs are the biggest team in the league or is a disaster had a crazy year every coach gets fired all the time they fired a two coaches with a week left in the season brought in that's why torts is
Starting point is 00:42:16 in this position yeah and then now we have the commissioner finding the team a second round draft big because they don't want to talk to the media nhl filled with drama awesome yeah it's been great it is fundamentally wonderful uh great time to have a podcast the oilers we're not like we're not short on news we go look at all our shows every show is two hours yeah because there's so and we're missing stuff people are mad at us how come you only gave my series five minutes It's just like, what do you expect me to do? Because we're not time travelers! We're trying!
Starting point is 00:42:44 All of this is happening during the playoffs, and we've got to talk about all these games, and then there's all this off-ice stuff. It's awesome. It's great. 100% Clutch Canadians presented by Moosehead Canadian Lager. We do this every single Friday where we wrap up the week, and we talk about the most Clutch Canadian in the playoffs
Starting point is 00:42:59 throughout the week, and here's the thing. We've got Game 7 tonight. So, my question to you is, who is your prediction for most Clutch Canadian in tonight's Game 7 tilt between Montreal and Buffalo. After Game 6, he was a very grumpy man indeed. He wasn't happy.
Starting point is 00:43:14 I think he's going to step it up in Game 7. He scored in their last Game 7, Nick Suzuki. Ooh, I like that. I like that. That was my pick. Is that your pick too? I wanted to go with Nicholas Massaru James Suzuki. But is that his name?
Starting point is 00:43:28 Yeah. Really? That's his full name? Yeah. That's crazy. He's got four names. Well, you could go with Zachary Benson. I would never.
Starting point is 00:43:35 Of Chilliwack, you see? I would never. you would never do that a buffalo saber wow okay well i will say this i was gonna ask you guys what i'm trying to help jesse oh no no nick suzuki is my god yeah yeah we're sharing it i wasn't gonna go benson but maybe it will be benson i think it's important that we mention benson because he seems like a clutch guy but also can i just throw this out there can a coach be that oh do you think a coach can be a coach canadian because i think yes if i'm going into this series and this is no disrespect to lindy ruff but i'm a young man and i see a legend
Starting point is 00:44:06 walk on my bench every night and his name is Marty St. Louis. That could be, he could have the coaching game of his life tonight. And it could just be what he does when he's not on the bench.
Starting point is 00:44:17 The speeches that he keeps talking, everybody's talking about the speeches. I hope they videotape any of them. I think Marty St. Louis might be it. Also, honorary mention, Metal,
Starting point is 00:44:28 their weird other mascot. Clutch Canadian. Metal is also Canadian. He will not be there today. So send in your your thoughts on who should be the 100% clutch Canadian presented by Moosehead Canadian Lager. We're doing that Friday. And remember, it's Canada's game. It's Canada's beer. Starting point is 00:45:53 The Oilers have been given permission to speak to Craig Berube as of this morning. Unbelievable job. Labia Letts' name is also out there, and Cassidy's is too, but the Oilers aren't allowed to talk to him. so they might as well get to work working with somebody else now um i have to just read this excerpt from i got two excerpts to read one from steve simmons and one from mark specter about uh stanbowl what a lineup that oh let me hear sometimes goodness sometimes you got to get the shankers out because they're right and the shankers are right the problem at edmonton is not the coach i don't think you in any other sane organization are you firing the coach
Starting point is 00:46:32 with uh two straight stanley cup finals appearance 13 games in the stanley cup final this man has coached in the last two years throughout in the first round and yes oilers fans were upset with chris knobloch's deployment but what was he given so here's what steve simmons had to say and then i'm going to move on to spec every time this dude walks out of shopper's drug mart it's with a toothbrush and a nail file yeah chris knobloch was hired to coach the oilers after they bottomed out midseason three years ago he took them in his first season to within a goal of the stanley cup in his second year they went back to the stanley cup final you can't do much better than that over the past two years general manager stan bowman got snookered on a free agency signing
Starting point is 00:47:12 deal by the st louis blues technically that's jeff jackson's fault i'm gonna say yeah but but bowman was there yeah bone was there but he just got there uh signed some bad contracts yes Trent Frederick and lessened the roster exponentially that's true, losing Fogle, obviously Holloway, Broberg, there was McLeod Kulak, I mean he got Savoy from McLeod, even a guy like
Starting point is 00:47:36 Vinny DeArne played a role in that first run, all they've done is hemorrhage talent, signed some bad contracts, lessened the roster exponentially so the coach who took them from nowhere to somewhere got shown the door and the GM took them from somewhere to nowhere, remains in charge
Starting point is 00:47:52 Now, I keep saying this and I keep getting pushback on this and I'm begging people to just have you heard of the website HockeyDB? People are like, how can you criticize Stan Bowman? He won three cups with Chicago. And I would say to you, did he win them with Edmonton? Do you know? No, hold on. Do you know who Dale Tallon is? Advisor to the Florida Panthers over the last three years.
Starting point is 00:48:17 You know, you know, Dale Tallon. He built the Chicago Blackhawks, and when it was let go right before they won their first cup, the season before, Stan managed that group all the way through. And then as soon as 2015 hit, after that last cup, disaster struck. And what you really saw, what I think I saw, was the true Stan Bowman 2016 to 2021 when he was let go. That's Stan Bowman to me. The other side is Stan Bowman managing Dale Talon's work and deserves credit for that. But let's talk about what it took once the big contracts for Taze and Kane kicked in, right?
Starting point is 00:48:54 10.5 million each. And Duncan Keith got older. And Brent Seabrook got older. And Corey Crawford wasn't the same. And oh my God, let's get Brandon Saad back. Yeah, sure. Give him Artemi Panarin in exchange. Insane work.
Starting point is 00:49:07 Insane works. And so then. So wait, wait, wait, though. Yeah. You're Stan Bowman. Or wait, no, sorry. I'll pretend to be Stan Bowman here. And you're the evil person.
Starting point is 00:49:17 Criticizing. What you're talking about is the downfall of the Blackhawks, which was post 2015. Yes. And it was quick and it was sustained. Yes. And it lasted and has still lasted till today. So I'm Stan Bowman.
Starting point is 00:49:32 There's the 2010 team that you could argue I inherited. I would argue that. Okay, great. Then 2011 happens. Do we win? No. No, we don't. 2012 happens.
Starting point is 00:49:44 No. Do we win? No. 2013 happens. You win. Sure, I didn't assemble that core, but I kept them together. Yep. And I helped create a team that not just won the Stanley Cup, essentially didn't lose a game.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Yeah, they were great. They were great. They had a 20-plus game winning streak in a 48-game season and then won the Stanley Cup. They were great. So if I'm him, I'm beating the drum over and over and over again that that's what's over the horizon. That's what I can do for you, but I need a second. But he didn't acquire any of the core pieces.
Starting point is 00:50:23 And in Edmonton, he has not acquired one core piece. He didn't fire the coach either, if I'm not mistaken. That's true. Now, Speck said there are some constants that have been established in Edmonton over the arc of a competitive window that has lasted more than a decade. Sorry, most of a decade.
Starting point is 00:50:39 they are cemented in Edmonton's culture, some good and some not so good. And the solution has always been the same. Fire the coach. Now he goes into some of the other things, but he's right. Isn't this Ryan Nugent Hopkins' 10th coach? Yeah, in 15 years.
Starting point is 00:50:52 That's unbelievable. You know what I would say about Ryan Nugent Hopkins, and this is what people say around the league about him, is he's uncoachable. Not kidding. I'm totally kidding. Nobody has ever said that ever. Have the Nashville Predators had 10 coaches ever?
Starting point is 00:51:04 Like if they had 10 coaches total? No, Pittsburgh Steelers have had four or five in their whole history. just just looking it up right now i don't since 2010 i think the oilers have had more coaches than the preds have had ever yeah since 1997 yeah they've only had four that's crazy trots laviolette heinz and brunette wow and trots was for well like 20 years 98 to 14 holy shit a long time yeah that's pretty good now with the craig barubi stuff can i talk about that well so he's going to go i can't wait for connor mcdavid to become an elite defensive center can i just point
Starting point is 00:51:43 out credible to you guys in an easter egg on the nashville predators head coaches wikipedia page yeah i give it to it somebody added this and nobody has caught it i won't scroll down until the reveal so under uh on the wikipedia page it's national predators head coaches they got all their stuff and then they have barry trotz there and then in achievements categories so you scroll down and you see that under andrew burnett's achievements category somebody added is a good that's very funny no one has noticed that on the wikipedia editing team that is extremely fantastic that is extremely funny shout out whatever preds fan did that uh we found it is a good young coach so oh my god listen
Starting point is 00:52:30 listen uh when it comes to the oilers i don't like accusing people of stealing a bit but all of a sudden the oilers want to acquire a closer of a head coach where have i heard that before uh toronto where have i didn't i say that yeah now here's the thing craig berube has this reputation for a reason because of the 2019 st louis blues the oddest wackiest least replicatable stanley cup run ever but it happened it did happen but do it again now here's what everyone forgets when it comes to craig berube jordan binnington and you might be like oh well jordan binnington he didn't he had this crazy strategy
Starting point is 00:53:34 where he didn't allow goals yeah ever at all i think you're all forgetting how crazy jordan binnington is when he walked through that door in st louis he walked through that door didn't allow goals won games exclusively i'd love to know what his record was that year he was unbelievable craig berube wins a division title last year with the toronto maple leafs anthony stallers does not allow goals and joseph wool looked awful in comparison and was still probably one of the best goalies in the league save percentage wise they both were yes stallers literally was number one you can't do better than that justin bourne wrote about craig berube Okay.
Starting point is 00:54:25 This is the quote of the article. And we are going to use this article for our Leafs segment coming up. But it said, In retrospect, and quite honestly in real time, Craig Berube having Lawton, Waugh, Pontus Holmberg, and David Kempf at his disposal and finding none of them usable is truly baffling. These were honest straight-line defensive centers, yet they kept running Matthews out there in the D-zone against the league competition.
Starting point is 00:54:47 He is absolute, like, home run sentences right there. They only had three centers and needed a center. and they decided to just punt on David Kompf and never let him play for the Leafs ever again. Never qualified punt as Holmberg. They needed Kompf and he had a situation where he should have been on the team starting lineup day one and they didn't want it.
Starting point is 00:55:10 Yeah, and then he had a good coach in Tampa and was instantly great. That's Holmberg. Oh, Kompf, no, well. Listen, Kompf I think made a mistake, but also the Leafs made a mistake. yeah Holmberg had a great time yeah he actually was great um I don't he can't use bottom six let me just say this let me just say this this is not going to happen Berube and Edmund yeah they're
Starting point is 00:55:32 going to talk to him I would put Laviolette above him and if they ever get a chance to talk to Cassidy they're going to fire the money cannon at him but it is a hilarious possibility that it's completely improbable and no not even the Oilers would do this there's no chance they do this you can't look at any like we said this so many times that people were like well Rogers is kind of cheap they might keep them anyway how many times did we say you cannot keep this coach look at all of the numbers you don't even have to go that deep advanced numbers wise there's no way the Oilers are this stupid they're not they're not do they make weird trades sure do they hire weird general managers absolutely but are you they're not this dumb unless Jordan
Starting point is 00:56:13 Bennington with a chip on his shoulder and prime Alex Petrangelo walk through the door well this is the wrong hire funnily enough apparently the Oilers are interested in and they cannot afford him well if they flipped jari to st louis if they're rebuilding so here's what you would need you would need binnington completely locked in and ingram to find another gear which he has previously in his nhl career showed that he has in his bags i didn't think ingram was that bad around one by the way that's what i'm saying they just had no defense no If Berube got adequate-ish goaltending this year, it wasn't very good. I don't think it was end of the world bad.
Starting point is 00:56:55 But if the goalie's not stealing the frigging game for you every night, and some coaches, they coach that way, and people just call them bad, and I think it's a little more nuanced than that. but his system does require you to make saves which is the number one weakness of the edmonton oilers you're that that to me is not a match at all but when they fired jay woodcroft and they brought in connor mcdavid's junior coach we were all like well that's stupid and then he was instantly freaking amazing ken holland did that though ken holland did do that i'll be honest we made fun of ken holland a lot and rightfully so but there were some damn good contracts signed
Starting point is 00:57:42 under him and that at home trade the hyman signing like there was some really good stuff that holland did do yeah then he went to la and and was brought all the worst parts with him but i think i think that it's like hey wait was shanahan good no no no they just they're worse right i look at this and and i'm like they're not they're gonna talk but they're not gonna do do this and i think it's kind of funny to clown around about it but like there's no chance in hell berube's coaching there there's no way there's no way you think connor you think they're not asking connor mcdavid hey connor your agent's the exact same guy as uh austin matthews why don't uh why don't you just give austin a call and see how it went there's no fucking way dude there's
Starting point is 00:58:25 no way i just don't understand cassidy it's cassidy oh we can't have him okay then it's berube They're just talking to people. Hey, do you have any steak sauce? No? Okay, I'll have some Nutella. Well, they got... What? Laviolette's an interesting one,
Starting point is 00:58:41 although I think his coaching has passed its prime as well. He's had an unbelievable run. He does make some teams better. Jesse, like you saw in New York at the beginning, when he got there, it was good. Yeah, he burns quick.
Starting point is 00:58:53 He does. But hey, Edmonton doesn't have long. They don't have long. If you want another two-year head coach, hire Peter Laviolette. he's like torts with decorum yeah like yeah i think the game sadly has moved past craig brube's coaching style me too like he doesn't fit the modern game and how the leafs played especially last season but even the year before now that we have hindsight the all the advanced
Starting point is 00:59:18 metrics told us the leafs were not as good as they showed and they were propped up by that outstanding goaltending that steve's talking about and i don't i don't think craig brube is a good fit for edmonton and i think they'll go in a different direction yeah i agree too but uh yeah pierre lebrun just said as of this minute vegas still hasn't given permission for teams to speak to bruce cassidy yeah oh and they're not um yeah now that they're never going now that the league is upset with vegas and vegas is like i'm gonna do what i can do back they're probably gonna keep holding this over yeah cassidy's not coaching till like not next season but the season yeah or at least somewhere else you know it's not gonna be he's gonna get a tv job with tnt i think he'd
Starting point is 00:59:55 be good at that if i'm vegas i tell bruce cassidy to call the reno people because you're gonna be at home a lot uh like which again sucks for him it is not the gentlemanly thing to do it is not the courteous thing to do it is not the typical thing that happens it's vegas and it's also vegas pissed off where i'm not coaching for a long time of it if i were the head of a multi-billion dollar um sports company that broadcast television games uh for the nhl i would want bruce cassidy on my panel doing x's and o's that guy explains hockey in a way i've never heard anyone else do it the western conference final he's brilliant man he's brilliant okay so here's what vegas is doing yeah he'd be like okay so here's what eichel's gonna do remember when tony romo started off in
Starting point is 01:00:45 football he's like yeah they're gonna call that play next and then they would immediately do it because he was a quarterback and he knew, that would be Bruce. Now, Adam, you had someone on Agent Provocateur talking about this very thing. That's right, Gil Scott. Now, you probably don't know that name, but Gil represents people like Barry Trotz,
Starting point is 01:01:00 Patrick Waugh, and a whole bunch of other people. And he is, I mean, he is an agent for executives. He also did NFL and CFL. He also does MLB. And in the MLB and NFL and other leagues, you can represent both executives and players. in the nhl you cannot and uh actually him and alan have a nice little debate about that whether that's because he thinks that you should be able to in the nhl because the nhl is the only league
Starting point is 01:01:26 that doesn't allow it alan's like absolutely not you should not be able to do that because imagine steve you're i'm your agent and i'm i'm negotiating on behalf of you but then i'm negotiating with you about a player is that not just exactly what the leafs are doing well not quite not quite there was there were some questions about a thing but anyway he was amazing and it's actually really interesting because obviously with the leafs search and the coaching search and all that stuff that alan getting an agent for executives was actually fascinating so definitely check that out all right it's finally spring and toronto went from extremely frigid cold to uh heat warning boiling we got one day over 20 degrees or like heat warning uh people could die uh but but here's
Starting point is 01:02:11 the thing walking more making plans traveling being outside in the summertime even though there's hockey still on uh it might be time for some new clothes to shake it in you know what i'm saying uh let me tell you i uh did the polar plunge like like doing a little polar plunge every year jumped into a pool and it was 53 degrees were you wearing fabletics bathing suits my i sure was and i was like you know what i'm freezing but gosh these are comfortable now when you sign up as a vip with fabletics you get 70 to 80 off and it makes it so easy to find new pieces without overthinking it. Starting point is 01:04:22 You've got to try breakfast at A&W. at participating A&W locations in Ontario. Now, another executive on the move, who I am, I'll be honest, people make fun. I think Justin Fisher was making fun of me for being sad about this. Brandon Pridham, 15 years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, will not be back.
Starting point is 01:04:44 The word on 32 Thoughts this morning is that they would have wanted him back if he wanted to stay. That's trash. That's complete trash. I don't know if I believe that either, but I don't not trust Freed. So I don't know what it's all probably down to people's opinions on stuff.
Starting point is 01:04:58 I think what it comes down to me here is that Pridham was a part of a front office that was a part of a massive change here in Toronto. You forget sometimes how shitty the Toronto Maple Leafs were before Mark Hunter, Dubas, Pridham and Brandon Shanahan showed up. And he was let go along with Derek Clancy. We'll get to Clancy in a second. But Pridham was the guy that helped build the most of the cap that we're currently in. He worked in the NHL for 17 years. selective bargaining agreement worked yeah that's that's what i mean yeah and then he had the and then he 15 years in toronto and he stuck around apparently he had an opportunity that's what i've
Starting point is 01:05:34 heard had an opportunity to go to pittsburgh with dubas like spezza did yeah and said no i want to be here and i want to finish the job this guy's a leaf fan yeah and he will have opportunities in the nhl but i think at a certain point too and i and somebody texted me this and like listen it doesn't matter how good he was was it time for a change probably i could see that it was i could see that was whether it's for him or the organization i could see did they did they win like that's how the leafs have to look at it did did we win here's here's why i hate the framing of oh well if you wanted to stay the least would have kept um hey can i have a raise no can i have a raise no can i have a raise no can i have a raise no
Starting point is 01:06:14 i quit oh well if you wanted to stay we wanted to stay but guys he's been the agm for how long and apparently the the meeting for gm did not go well so that's a big one you heard that separately from how i heard that i also heard i heard um the interview process was uh horrible for brandon pridham and he was treated poorly for a guy who's done so much for this team and been here so long uh i think he was the way it was conveyed to me is it sounded a lot like he was given an interview out of courtesy and then during the interview was shown absolutely no courtesy whatsoever um which is unfortunate shot at the job no no not based on what i heard and i hope what i heard is exaggerated or not true um because what a terrible thing to do to a guy
Starting point is 01:07:09 like again i love the story or at least how it ended the morning of game six against tampa in 2023 brandon pridham was jogging and was hit by a car he shows up to game six in a sling and when tavara scores the overtime winner dubas gets up and loses his freaking mind and spezza goes yeah are you okay yeah to pridham this guy uh i think bled blue and white i think he really wanted to finish the job here is there an argument that it was time for change yeah yeah but you can be sad to see a guy go i i'd be sad that it didn't work out yeah of all the yes you can be sad it didn't work out of all the people who made mistakes or didn't do a great job or it was time for them to go like brandon pridham is like the one guy i think you can say
Starting point is 01:08:07 i mean really what did he do like what like what did he do wrong he managed their salary cap situation when they were fucked with a capital fucked heading into covid yeah they were in a bad bad bad cap situation they were in a tight cap situation if it was going up and then it died for two years how do you manage that well he found a way and they would not have found a way without him yep so someone's gonna get a really good executive jesse you need a fresh set of eyes on things sometimes yeah and i think that's what chaco wants here he wants a fresh start for the entire organization and brandon pridham somebody that nonis found useful if i if i'm correct like he was there for one year the nonis and then i don't remember uh dubas was yeah yeah he was there
Starting point is 01:08:59 with nonis dubas found him useful true living found him useful and like i'm sure that if chica wanted to keep him around he would have found him very useful for running this team but i feel like just entering this situation for chica that's not what he's trying to do he's not trying to keep somebody who's been in the organization for so long he wants this to be a clean slate for what he's doing and i think like if he had decided to keep rid of him would have been great but that's not kind of just what he's entering this thing doing he just wants everything to be clean and do what he wants i also think uh it can't be ignored that that's what fans want like i i'll be honest nothing against it was this is not brandon pridham uh specific but i think if we
Starting point is 01:09:44 continue down the and i would have felt this way in 2023 as well when dubas sat at that microphone he said two major things number one i'm not sure if i want to be back that got him fired number two we can't keep the core together which i agreed with i think sometimes when you've got too many people that have been there too long the tendency is the history weighs on you and the way you've always done thing weighs on you like one of the things that really pissed me off about dubas was the process thing you remember when the uh the the rays were in the uh uh were in the world series blake snell gets pulled they're winning and they and they lose because blake snell who was fucking on fire that day um they were like well this is our process and dubas gets up into
Starting point is 01:10:26 the microphone and unironically says i would have done the same thing and did someone ask him about the tampa bay race yes somebody did ask him about oh my god so and that's that's that part of that religious devotion to process is i think a flaw in in in what happened here now do i think kyle has stuck to that in pittsburgh i don't actually i think he's broken from his former processes because being in pittsburgh new team has allowed him a fresh set of ways to do it you can't just be locked in when the results don't follow, right? He's learned. He's learned. And I think he straight up said he regretted the Mason Marchman. No matter how this group goes, Sheikha Sundin and everybody else that is going to eventually join this, because there are going
Starting point is 01:11:09 to be more changes. However it goes, I think we need to acknowledge in this moment that most of us are ready for a change. And if it doesn't work out, well, then I guess you try again. but I would prefer and we've said this how many times I would prefer you try something than do nothing yeah and Shani had his own way of doing nothing which is re-sign everybody and hold nobody accountable Brad just didn't make any literally did really did nothing and so like let's do something let's try to do something different and I have you know for the last half decade we've had a lot of the guys just hanging on oh come on we'll get it we'll get it back and i just think okay i'm ready for this sad to see pridham go good person uh derrick clancy i
Starting point is 01:11:53 know was really close with true living he was a he was a true living so that was never that way and here's the thing the organization apparently is like just it's littered with people uh who are very very smart but they're from different uh or like different parts of the eras and so either you're going to try to find a way to align those guys which is what they've done before or you're going to try to find uh new people to come in who are more on your thing and you need people to challenge your points of view yes but you also need fresh sets and just on derrick clancy he was essentially a package to deal with true living he was hired by true living in 2023 he was his player personnel guy right so he would handle all the player personnel stuff that true living
Starting point is 01:12:32 couldn't and it didn't make sense to keep that guy around that was just a true living disciple yeah since true living's been fine yep now let's talk about the the coaching situation because it It seems like the Leafs are taking the same track that they did with the general manager, which is wide net. They're going to talk to a lot of people. And they did. I think the Leafs talked to like 11 people or something like that. Well, they said more than that, but seriously talked to like 11. Sure.
Starting point is 01:12:54 You know, David Carl's name has come up. He's obviously you've Denver NCAA. He turned out a pretty whopping deal with the Blackhawks last year to stay there. Can't say I blame him. i can't say i know much about him or coaching or just that he's seemingly the best coach in college hockey i would want them to have a chat but i have a feeling like you know jeff halpern's name come up he's a guy that is the assistant coach in tampa that's under cooper um there's been a few others and i think you know people have said a fridge said today he's like i'm
Starting point is 01:13:27 gonna stop naming names because there's gonna be so many people that they talk to i can't wait till they make the hire to speculate on who the coach is going to be at this point it's just too early right like you can have your favorites you can your fan you're like i want david carley's guy good with young guys well get a new system yeah cool that's great but like what i'm most curious about is when they get it down to the bottom three and we'll know we'll know who the bottom three are like the sorry excuse me the top three yeah how much differentiation in their coaching philosophies will there be that we'll be able to pick up from in the public because it's going to dictate what kind of team this is going to be they know what kind of team they want
Starting point is 01:14:06 to be we have no idea and the coach is going to give us a pretty good insight into what team we think they want to be tonight there is a game seven and the series has been a slobber knocker back and forth epic yep one team kills the other the other team resurrects come back comes back next game and kills the other it is between a coach that has not been out of work since 1984 in lindy rough and rough yeah yeah and martin st louis who yes was a hockey hall of fame player but was coaching 13 year olds and went straight to the nhl crazy make a good team yeah on paper have a guy who knows how to make the occasional uh great speech adjustment yeah make a guy who knows how to the boys want to play for
Starting point is 01:15:07 like this is why i don't think you need to spend an outrageous amount of money on a retread like out of the elite i don't think they're going retread by the way no i've been told they're not going retread because unless you're getting one of like six guys what are you spending millions and millions of dollars for uh i think there's lots of great coaches out there that just haven't gotten the opportunity um and i'm not saying that like i'm not i don't want to belittle martin st louis but you got to remember when he was hired we were all like have they lost their minds and then something more interesting happened than him being bad he was good it's way more interesting that he's good because he was coaching teenagers yep what and he went straight to the
Starting point is 01:15:57 nhl now they weren't good right away the team on paper stunk and then they got good and they're a win away from the conference final yep and what you don't need to retry what the coach really needs to do guys like jesse didn't look like austin matthews had a lot of fun last year no william nylander's always having fun so i don't really although he seemed a little frustrated the flipping off of the camera thing i think that's frustration whatever hey how do we make austin matthews happy uh get him his cookies if he's scoring 50 60 goals a year i feel like you got a happy austin matthews jesse yeah you know the craig berube did a disaster job on deploying austin matthews i think we've all kind of settled on that now that he's ruined that player over the
Starting point is 01:16:41 last year with all his defensive zone starts it was a ridiculous situation and i think the next guy who comes in isn't going to do that same thing and because it's such an obvious change remember bruce there it is yeah he told brock besser to shoot now that i'll tell brock besser that team to me that they were already out of it i don't know that was a mirage sorry i know it was a mirage the canucks did that two years in a row mirage help mirage mirage mirage help people feel good uh get the boys to bond get them to play for each other yep and yeah you got to make adjustments you have to be a good coach you can't just be ted lasso out there making everyone feel good about themselves yeah okay i but again i don't think it's rocket science no it is not rocket science
Starting point is 01:17:27 It isn't. And I think Chayka is going to go just based on how things have gone the last couple of weeks since he's been there. I think Chayka is going to go a little unconventional. I want it to be Bruce Cassidy because I think he's a really good coach. And I think he really helped the Leafs jumpstart this thing back to respectability. But it seems like Chayka wants to go in different directions with everything he's kind of doing. Yeah, I'm with you. It doesn't seem like he wants to do the same.
Starting point is 01:17:51 Oh, NHL head coach who got fired, bring him back in. Seems like he wants to do something different. Yeah. yeah so all those guys are like man i'm not gonna coach for john chica i don't want a job in the nhl i won't answer that guy's phone calls oh yes you will yes you fucking will like listen i'm highly skeptical of john chica i i'm hey i like that he fired berube i'm giving him one i'm giving him a one oh he's okay great one for one he's one for one that's great you're making yeah good great you made the first good decision it's a strange hire but i think uh some of the hard
Starting point is 01:18:24 lines people are taking against them are slightly ridiculous well everybody speaks in in in these gigantic sweeping generalities and then when it gets down to business you got to make your team better so hey why wouldn't you call the Leafs if you don't have any respect for John Chayka like you say you don't why wouldn't you call them and fleece them then call them and fleece them test them yeah right no don't don't worry no no we'll let the Leafs be bad but we're not going to take any of their players okay and Bourne actually said in the article he's like listen you're going to get tanf back that's good right oel still has some game uh pretty pretty obvious that morgan riley's gonna be traded and he's like you know the guy who's got the most latent upside to he
Starting point is 01:19:02 said he was using shake his words he's like brandon carlo he's got the most latent upside huh and i think he's right because brandon carlo was so bad i'm like he's not that bad though well okay he's not that bad so one-dimensional sure like brandon carlo does so little to affect the hockey game my thing with him is he was so bad last year i'd sooner keep him and then move off him if he ends up playing well but yeah he's at the bottom of his value and you gave up so much for him totally totally that's how i feel it's tristan jari yeah and there's the first three months and he's a right shot six foot six foot five six foot seven guy oh yeah oh that's insane look at that look at those numbers you should get him you know what i don't want to pick up the phone
Starting point is 01:19:49 for john chica but i'll pick up the phone for that brandon carlo that's one of the most pathetic things i've heard and i've heard it more than once yeah no okay hey hey we'll get you your little t-shirt that says biggest strongest boy your biggest strongest toughest boy won't answer john chica's call you're so weird you're in the nhl there's only 32 of you answer the phone yeah you child pat verbeek is famously the grumpiest general manager out there yeah like just a curmudgeon to deal with and he makes trades all the time and people don't i don't think pat gives a shit if anyone likes him he's just he he ran on anger in the nhl and does so as the ducks gm and look it's worked out for him there was a story i heard about brian burke where someone uh pitched
Starting point is 01:20:30 a trade to him and he just went fuck off and hung up the phone there you go and he made trades all the time and has a great reputation amongst his peers when you try to start a business online it's difficult. Starting point is 01:21:56 slash sdp. Two in five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research together we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca in vancouver i want to quickly touch on uh the pr train is a rolling and it should be they need it uh the sardines are out they were on 32 thoughts they were on local vancouver media uh and you need to be right um one of the things that has really i think if you're a canucks fan you gotta love this the first off they are not afraid to
Starting point is 01:22:46 ask questions and if nobody pays attention to canucks press conferences they ought to um one of the reporters was like hey so um your players i'm paraphrasing your players have just not been involved in the community the last few years oh and it was like and ryan johnson's been there so deans have obviously been paying attention but they haven't been a part of the organization officially like those players right and they were like yeah that's a big problem and we're going to solve that and i was like hey like hearing that and and that is i you know right doesn't that make you huh well because you could you could combat that with yes we have like i think the best you could do is well i disagree with that but we do pledge to do they
Starting point is 01:23:27 didn't disagree they said it and they didn't disagree no no no i mean you can always do more you're the vancouver canucks now the other thing is no i think they've actually curtailed it i think that's what's happening okay um so uh there is so an article in cbc this morning and it says sorry it's a couple mornings old uh if the vancouver canucks new leadership team is sincere in its pledge to improve community connections the chair of the vancouver park board thinks it's a good place thinks a good place to start would be letting people know the plan for the team's new practice rink reports citing unnamed sources say the Canucks are planning to build their new ice at the site of the Britannia skating rink in East Vancouver on Thursday new Canucks co-president
Starting point is 01:24:12 Henrik Sedin confirmed a deal for a practice rink is quote very close if true park board chair Tom Digby wants to know why the community and stakeholders have not been let know so they haven't told anybody so i guess what's happened here is this has been leaked out as things do right it's the nhl the walls talk i don't think anyone's being like mean or whatever but this rink like a lot of rinks in toronto is 50 plus years old needs a lot of upgrades and you know the aquilines are real estate guys and uh or fan gaffar said he cited he cited drawings and specific details including the new footprint for the rink uh and a new facility that will be underground parking for the canucks players because that's legally you have to have that
Starting point is 01:24:59 you have to have parking for nhl players um and anyway long story short uh the uh organization is close on this practice rink but people are mad because it's been leaked and so now the community is like well wait a second like what does that do to our minor hockey association when you know and it's just it it's such a good thing for the Canucks it's such a good thing for the city and yet it's a mess build the damn thing just build it do a great job and we can stop we can shut up about it right I'm thinking uh you know what's an amazing practice facility an amazing practice facility and like I'm just I'm just every time I think about the Canucks making this such a pain in the ass and dragging their heels and taking forever you know who has
Starting point is 01:25:50 an amazing practice facility who the peterborough peets yeah they do actually we saw it recently it's brand spanking new and it's a community center it's a community center yeah but like so is the fort performance center right like i almost feel like it's secondarily a leaves practice facility and primarily somewhere where you get greasy fries and watch your kid play well of course it is that's what most practice facilities are yeah like listen nhl teams practice a lot they don't practice so much that the building is just theirs these places are cornerstones of your community and we're always having a conversation about oh hockey in this country oh hockey and this is not what it used to be hockey in this country build a fucking building
Starting point is 01:26:33 then good god stop dragging your heels are you you're a real estate expert get the thing done did you see um you cheap anyway did you see uh uh the uh the utah ones the plans for the utah one no oh it looks amazing that's what i wanted to bring up yeah bring it up if i was a nhl player and i had the ability to sign with vancouver or any other team i would never sign with the vancouver canucks because the advantages where teams can can get their advantages against other nhl teams is the spending power of your owner and how much they're willing to put into the team like those all the off-ice stuff we're talking about toronto going and spending the 100k to fly their players a day early money well spent ryan smith in utah is so committed to just throwing
Starting point is 01:27:24 money at his sports teams to make them better in ways he can't and it's the complete opposite in vancouver and they've had decades to solve this yep aquilini's had this team forever he is in real estate and he can't build the damn arena and then you so you go to utah and they teamed up with they're called um intermouth intermountain health is the organization that they've teamed up with to build their new practice facility for the jazz and for the mammoth it's going to be in the mountains in utah it's going to be wonderful intermountain health is a corporation that like runs hospitals i think in their press release they said they run nine of the top 100 hospitals in america okay it is going to be a giant 60 000 square foot facility next to the practice arena
Starting point is 01:28:15 for the mammoth and next to the newly built arena uh for the jazz that's coming for their practice facility and it's going to be a state-of-the-art nothing better in america health place we're guys can just get better off the ice and if i look at the dedication that ryan smith has to making everything around his players better why the hell would i go sign with a company like the vancouver canucks where they where they do the complete opposite and make it hard for you to live as a pro athlete and vancouver has some of the best quality of life of any nhl team it's an awesome it's an incredible place i love thing and people might be well the taxes are a bit high and whatever but like listen you wake i mean in seattle you wake up in the mountains every day
Starting point is 01:29:02 vancouver you wake up with mountains ocean and gigantic trees at your doorstep and world-class skiing and i'm not trying to like say salt lake city's bad vancouver good salt lake city's got a lot of that i'm just saying seattle you meant salt like i meant yeah sorry salt lake city seattle seattle vancouver they're like cousins um i don't know why i said seattle but the fact that you know these are the things that make a huge difference these are the things like it's it was like with um the islanders a few years ago before lou lamorello got there and it's like well they're gonna play in brooklyn um we don't know where they're gonna practice half the fans can't see the fucking game it was a joke and then what did lou do he's like bring him back to the old arena
Starting point is 01:29:41 yep bring him back to the old shit heap until we build the new one all right put him in nasa there's a reason that so many nhlers want to sign in florida they like being anonymous and they can ride golf carts from the beach to their practice yeah it's great it's fucking an awesome life for a guy like matthew good jock dude you go to ford performance center any day in the summer what are you going to find nhl players every day there are nhl play middle of july there's nhl players and again you know i talked about peterborough we've talked about toronto san jose yeah that place is fucking awesome it's a labyrinth man there's like four yo how many pads where there's six there's a there's a there's a pad of ice for every player on the sharks
Starting point is 01:30:24 like there's so many there's so much ice it's crazy they say it's the largest hockey ice complex uh west of the mississippi or something like that yeah i believe that text to you baby yeah text to you is so cool big six pads of ice packed with people the lot of them and some of them were sharks yeah and they also crawling with alumni and they have their ahl rank built into it yeah Yes! Yeah, their AHL rink is built into their practice facility because of just the ease of access. You could go for a skate,
Starting point is 01:30:54 and then you could go watch an AHL game. Like, you could skate for an hour and then go, all right, guys, let's go watch the Barracuda play. You gotta start... Walk down the hall. You gotta start hitting these owners at the only thing that matters to them, and that's their ego.
Starting point is 01:31:06 You don't have a practice facility? Lol, poor. Mm-hmm. LMAO, poor. But I think that's... Francesco Aquilini's poor. i think that uh uh i think that uh the the sardines are going to change that i don't think that they sign on yeah that's the thing like their job right now is making aquilini open up his wallet
Starting point is 01:31:27 yep like that's that's got to be one of the top of their list build a practice facility like that's so it's such a joke and we're not even asking for something like ryan smith is doing where he's building a state-of-the-art health center inside of their practice facility we're just asking for a pat of ice that says Canucks on it. One. One. But he's got to build He hasn't done that. That's crazy. I'm gonna I'll push him. You should build
Starting point is 01:31:52 a facility better than Tech CU in San Jose. You should. Vancouver deserves it as a city. You're building one, but it's not the best. Lol, poor. Why are you so broke-ass? Broke. Lol, broke.
Starting point is 01:32:09 You're not gonna get that guy's credentials back because you're broke. boo broke so i think i think that that i do think the sardines are going to be able to affect change there i hope so that's one guy i just don't think you can say no to sorry two guys you can't say no to and uh even if it requires them standing in a room and staring uh they can do it i do think that they can do it and i do think this is going to happen which is why it's leaking so that's a good thing right i i want to you know as much as we we have clowned on the way things have not on the ice but on in the management group like if this is the thing that turns the tide then great
Starting point is 01:32:44 you know you want more for the city right should vancouver should be one of the spots it should be one of the destinations 100 yeah you get like a month of winter are you fucking kidding me it's incredible i love you're a god you win there you're look at the sardines look at trevor linden look those guys are gods on mark massier not so much but you know what i mean there's like i love where i'm from there's like three other places in the world i can picture myself living in vancouver is one of them it's the best where are the other places rank them whippy yeah probably whippy and uh let's go oshawa what's the closest uh mrs dangle would move to toronto oh you're in it is ajax or was she you're in it she wouldn't even do scar she
Starting point is 01:33:29 do pickering she wouldn't do scarborough though i think i could talk her into scarborough but i'm i think you could too i'm not sure i think so yeah yeah the thing is that now taking the kids out of school though it's a non-starter all right no we have such a good situation yeah yeah and i'm saying like you had to move you know yeah listen you guys are making this too real okay so oh hey the negotiations and then your kit i didn't break in the kid i like vancouver a lot all right where so where are the others you said there's a couple of places you've moved to you said so vancouver's one i think this is going to surprise you uh i really like well okay halifax that's not going to surprise anyone halifax is a good choice boston oh boston's amazing i love boston boston's amazing
Starting point is 01:34:15 boston's a great city great city yeah yeah that's a good choice jesse what are your picks what would you where would you move new york it would be fun it would be expensive though uh yeah this is money is no object oh okay i i'm first line center for the rangers obviously yeah stop yeah being like of waltz you know like where do you rent a u-haul let me just come on we're at a bar here in the sky this thing um i think new york would be awesome vancouver would be there uh i think on the list as well i do enjoy the east coast like i don't think i'd go west no no i don't think i'd do california i would do california in a fucking minute yeah a part of my brain was like why didn't you say san jose vancouver i think because vancouver is canada you know i wouldn't move to
Starting point is 01:35:03 the states on the west i'd be 500 pounds if i moved to san jose oh the food's incredible i think new york new york's my pick what's yours adam uh halifax has always been i lived there i loved it okay you're not allowed to say a place you lived fuck okay um i could do los angeles in a heartbeat really yep i could do los angeles no problem i mean it's not like the traffic's any worse no exactly i guess i just i would love to know what it's like and maybe one day i will to live in the sun all year round mostly um i could do i think i could do nashville pretty easy i have a black hat i have had a blast there there seems to be a really good balance between fun in the city center and then really good burbs caffeinated coffee um and then i think i
Starting point is 01:35:47 caffeinated beer idiot um i think i you know based on what we saw in san jose i'd probably do that to i would be i would probably most likely move to the west coast if i was going to do it because i think i've lived i've lived in the west but not on the west coast i live in the mountains so the the the allure of california there's something about it there's just like it's just cool um and it's warm and there's plenty of opportunities and i don't know i just that's how i would look at it no washroom maybe san diego no hey hey apparently it's a great place to live, San Diego. If money's no object, don't play for the goals. Let's go.
