And I meant to send it to you before the show But this video is insane This is from last night Sorry from Monday night against Vegas And I want you to watch him do this this is what he's about to do i want you to just watch the video see what he does when players are on the ice i've never seen this before i don't know if any other equipment manager does this and by the way it's not broadcast footage so we can put it uh on uh on the actual screen

we're okay to do that it's funny because i have seen this yeah this one this we did this last october really yeah i must not have been there i can pull up the reddit thread from last october where uh he did this really thing and it went viral all game long the the footage that you're not seeing if you're listening listening to it is all shift long he goes along the leafs bench of sticks and he puts his fingers on the stick of the player holding the puck or with possession of the puck i'd never seen this before so i didn't know that's what he did what i thought he did was he was like all right this line is on the ice so he just puts his hand on all the sticks belonging to the guys on that line but no he's it's the puck carrier every time and i was like why would

he do that well it's because the puck carrier is the one most likely to break their stick So the other night William Nylander Had a clapper at the point Broke his stick Went and got one and was back out there Immediately like he lost maybe Two seconds of his shift So Bobby Hastings does that for 60 minutes

Suppose so well it's I'm curious to know what he does when the Leafs Don't have the puck Yeah But he's the Leafs equipment guy who famously got Mitch Marner His stick when it broke So that's what I was bringing up

So if you remember This was the Sharks game It was an OT No it wasn't OT It was an OT winner that Mitch Marner had No that wasn't OT Anyways I can't show the footage Mitch Marner was charging up the ice

And as he's charging up the ice he needs a stick Hastings gives him the stick on the fly Because he knows who it is He goes to the net and he scores a goal So it was the NHL called it Equipment Manager Assist that was the last time his finger thing went by that's cool so i must not have i might i think maybe it was sick or something last october i was not here for that show but i don't remember

doing that it's been a thing it's one of those things that uh what i've noticed on reddit is this phenomenon of uh like annually or every couple years people go have you ever seen this can you believe this and i realize i'm so chronically online that i'm always like yeah yeah i have seen it i've already seen it right can you believe this i can't believe it because i've already seen it right that doesn't surprise me with you that doesn't surprise me i'm supposed to like i'm supposed to know that yeah that's uh i just thought that was crazy and you know i with my brain and my uh inability to focus um frankly just inability to focus on anything for very long uh i don't think i'd be able to do that you should play more video games really yeah that

apparently it really helps for people who need to up their focus playing video games like sitting there within a video game where you need to sit and focus it's just fun right yeah realize that you're doing one task and it's helping you with your focus so play more like call of duty oh yeah well okay one game i actually want to play is cyberpunk now apparently it's great again and i i wanted a ps5 to play cyberpunk and it only came out on ps4 and then it was terrible and people said it's now two years later apparently it's one of the best games on earth they're coming out with an extension i'm like i gotta play this game keanu reeves is in it i gotta play this didn't they release it for ps5 and then it broke and they had to recall they like take it off it was for ps4 it

was so glitchy okay that it was the same christmas that uh ps5 came out and somehow natalie found me a ps5 that was my christmas gift i couldn't believe it and i wanted to play that game so i downloaded it or i tried to download it and they had taken it off the store because uh because it was so bad and people were complaining so much i don't know i don't understand how that happens i don't either you play the thing and it's broken don't release it like what what are you doing i don't know i gotta say with the nhl release oh one of the big selling features i can't even remember what it was but oh yeah it's gonna we're gonna have it a month after it's out well okay cool i guess that's when i'll buy it then what was it was nhl 2015 where it was like

a partial game when we went from ps3 to ps4 do you remember that yeah one of them remember that it might have been that or it might have been 2013 i can't remember one of those games they completely changed the skating physics and turning your player around was like turning a boat yes that was crazy hard it was so impossible yes by the way if you're like the passing sucks this year do not forget to turn up your pass assist the thing i have to remind myself every single year last uh december or last february i guess it was for when the olympics happened they added the women's players to the game yeah and then but out of the box when you when you play a a female team on a female team team canada versus usa with the women's players the goalies didn't wear masks

well it was the strangest thing but whenever you tried to use a women's player goalie it was she wasn't wearing a mask on the ice and i and it shocked me how did this get to the point where you release the rosters and none of the developers realized that the goalies didn't have masks on was it a glitch or on purpose it was a glitch but every single time without fail it was the glitch bro that's wild how did how did i know so i i did a live stream of it when it released i did before i think it was one of the games when team k i think it was for the finals actually but where my live stream happened before the game and none of the goalies have math you can go watch it on youtube the goalies don't have masks on because ea decided to release the game like this and it

shocks me that nobody sat there and tested it and said oh they don't have masks on back in my day when you bought a video game they gave you a full video game wow i'm choosing to be a boomer how does it get to that point i don't know that is that's crazy i uh i was also so i'm realizing lately that i actually do have some focus problems on that on that since we were on that subject for a second so maybe anyway so what do you think you're gonna do but on thursday so like the other night i uh i was brushing my teeth on the bottom on the bottom because you wouldn't want to say that you forgot them i uh i wanted a barney it's very popular show you do watch a lot you've watched more kids programming in your life than any other person i've ever known yep um i uh uh i was

brushing my teeth i finished brushing my teeth i rinsed my toothbrush whatever and i go go into bed and natalie uh natalie pokes her head out of the bathroom and is like uh are you serious and i said i was like what you know what you get that serious tone you're like and she's like come back here have a look and we have dual sinks and i just left the sink running i just left it on i walked away from it with the water running like i don't i i that that is how my brain works i don't know why the chorus of the barney song that i referenced is when i'm brushing my teeth and having so much fun i never let the water run oh no way no i never let the water run to do do do do do do do do do do hey what do you what do you do for that i don't know

if you i don't know what that is with focus and whatever so what's what is there a focus doctor like i don't know anybody watches it's a focus doctor i'm fascinated to know like so you obviously want to tackle this in your life you want to be able to focus on things it's one of the things that like you know between the crazy schedule and every you know because i'm constantly waking up at 4 30 just constantly tired right you know you remember it was it's not good for your brain hell like you're losing gray matter yes yeah i'm definitely less smart than i used to be and that's hard because i wasn't that smart to begin with but like for another for instance so yesterday i've had a big box of sdpn clothes you guys have seen it it's been on my workout bench in the next

room i know lol i have a workout bench uh and uh adam's yoked and natalie was like okay and and i'm gonna i'm gonna blow should i blow the surprise about what was supposed to happen today and then tease forward to monday yeah yeah okay oh yeah yeah so eric lindross was supposed to come over today and talk about easter seal yes and natalie said listen i'm she's like i know hockey i don't know like you guys know it but i know hockey and i know eric lindross is a big deal and if that effing box it's sitting there i'm not going to be very happy with you we want to make a presentable house and i was like fair enough so i uh actually i took all the boxes that needed to be taken to the dump out of the garage i emptied the box decompressed it put it put it and took it to

the dump and whatever and i left all the clothes on the floor and so but i was like but that was on purpose hold on that was on purpose that was on purpose because i was going to come back and do it and then um and and i never did so nine o'clock last night i'm walking upstairs i'm like wow eric lindros is coming over this is gonna be cool and then i was like they'll close no and i had to go and spend 20 minutes folding the new sdpn gear that i have um because that's how much you bought yeah yeah i bought a lot because i didn't have any and then uh and and i i forgot about it for literally i think probably 10 hours just completely like out of my mind not even not even a little bit like i need to get back to that so what's the next step i don't know like what what can i ask

you like have you guys noticed that with me or is this all news to you have i noticed that you're squirrely yeah i mean okay so i guess i got the answer i don't think our show is called the jesse pot and kettle show so i'm i'm not okay i'm not gonna point it out with you hey adam have you ever noticed you're exactly like me how many phone calls have you waited six seven minutes and been like steve's not showing up and you have to call or text me and be like you have a phone call stupid and i go no i forgot right right that's true happens on group meetings a lot i think robert and jamie are the most used to it now oh we have social meetings i'm sorry and they're and they're always like i guess steve's not coming and they're like i don't think he is all right so

steve isn't going to be a part of this one but we'll fill him in jesse yeah it's a it's a line we use a lot i'm sorry i can't help it if there's one person i've worked with more than you steve it's jesse because we did two shows together for almost a decade and he doesn't do that does he no uh forget everything well you have to manage the two of us like i'm not i'm not on the i don't think we should just sit here and be like oh are you guys squirrely i think we should focus on how we get you more focus this is the problem yeah you're asking us to focus i would love to know if there's like a focus doctor or like some training or some tab like if video games are the thing maybe we get you guys to play more video games man if that's the case i'm in like fuck

It's back. get on your horse one stamina tonic for the horse and anyway anyway sorry guys so and and so the reason i'm using my gigantic computer is you guessed it i forgot my nice computer uh my new computer at work because it was right it was in my backpack i'm like do i need to bring this today i'll just bring it just in case and i brought it and i put it right next to my coat and when i left

i picked up my coat and left the laptop here do you want to feel better about yourself sure first of all one time i forgot a laptop on a plane yeah you did do that i did do that luckily got it back uh the punishment though was that very day on the drive to the airport the leafs traded james reimer i was very sad oh i'm sorry also didn't andrew berkshire drive you back to the airport he sure did yeah i was in montreal um and uh the other day adam i had ice cream and i really enjoyed it and i was looking forward to really enjoying it the next day but i couldn't because i left it out all night you i just forgot about it okay i got one for you now here's here's my excuse drugs oh okay you just sort of forgot okay well adam's laptop story is worse than yours have

you heard my laptop so you remember on the show do you remember you obviously okay so let me tell you it again i'm doing it freaking funny is it that i don't remember so i was doing an influencing campaign in december of 20 it's november of 2020 for christmas right and i'm doing this shoot oh 2020 yeah well that's why i don't remember it and and i'm doing this shoot and you have to remember that this computer at that point was my everything it was how we did the podcast we couldn't do it in person so we were we were at home doing the at home broadcast with this computer this is the computer and i get home uh to my little apartment on queen street and i'm like where is where's my laptop i don't know where it is i look in the thing i i check it worked the next i cannot find

my laptop where is it and i realized that um i've been i started calling the stores that i was next to while i was doing this thing and one of the guys picked up and he said i thought you might call and i thought oh i said do you know about the laptop he's like actually i saw you driving it away driving away with it on the back of your truck oh no i had a honda ridgeline right remember and it had the flat it had the tonneau cover and i left it on the tonneau cover and i drove all the way down parlin parliament in my own trucky way and it at some point fell off and i don't know but it sits here today so how did i get it back well somebody turned it in and the toronto police they turned it into 51 division the toronto police called me and they're like hi is this adam i was

like yeah and they're like um are you missing something i'm like yeah a laptop and they're like cool why don't you come pick it up i was like you got to be kidding me and it was the only reason they knew it was me was because it said my name uh on the icon like they couldn't log in but they knew my name was on the icon so that's and so if you look at this laptop can you i don't know if you can see it there's road rash on this laptop so i don't know if you can see it but there's actual road rash on this how is that all what a tank eh this thing's this is a tough laptop i had this for this is now my sixth year with this laptop it's dying there's a reason there's a reason you have a new one now yes yeah it's a i mean yeah this one's

done it never worked quite the same but it held it held fast who made your laptop jeep i know i know thanks steve jobs and wow i know you were looking forward to your ice cream french fries okay i once went out for french fries to get french fries mccain french fries frozen french fries okay this is the last story we'll move on to hockey i'm sorry i swear to god yeah the canucks lost i know i know i know we got to talk about it oh man what are we gonna say it's bad shut up let friends talk so so natalie natalie and i uh we're not married yet and she we had just moved in together and i wanted to get her french fries her favorite thing in the whole world is chicken nuggets and french fries she loves that so we're gonna do that on a friday

night i and then i i go out i get the good french fries that she likes i get the chicken nuggets that she likes boom in the freezer done come time to cook dinner oh no french fries i'm like natalie i swear to you i pulled out the receipt from the garbage i'm like there are french fries on this receipt where are the french fries it's here where is it where are the so mad i'm so frustrated so we had to we uber eats we uber eats some like mcdonald's french fries or something because it was a date night right you want to and we couldn't do anything it was the pandemic you couldn't go out so um uh so i'm not kidding you a week later natalie goes outside this is probably april or may and uh and she she's going out to her little honda civic hatchback and uh she's

a honda fit hatchback that is she opens the thing and she looks over she's like what is that and there's like a bag sitting in the you know when you have a bike and then you have a baby seat on the bike i put the fries in the baby seat on the bike just arrested now i guess i was unloading the groceries all right and that's where i was like that's a good spot and i never came back and it was the only thing that was it it was the only you could have you could have put any item of food and forgotten it and been like oh shuck it's the one freaking thing you needed yes i'm surprised that a raccoon didn't have a nice fry i know i know wow i know so this is this is what this is what it's always been though guys i i haven't i have it's always been this way anyway

let's move on to uh let's start the show hey so the leafs have a really flat game i know we're gonna get to vancouver don't worry but i do want to cover the leafs knights thing because uh phil castle scoring the first goal would have been so poetic had it not been called back i'm gonna say that's not the spirit of the rule at all it should have been a goal i mean what advantage did the golden Knights game, right? If a guy, if a guy is flying in off the rush, right. And he gains an advantage by not stopping

up. He's the first in the zone, but he doesn't have the puck. He's able to crash the net and they get a goal off that. I think that's in the spirit of the rule. This is William Carlson bumping into a player and standing dead still.

Now you could argue that, you know, it all comes out in the wash because he sort of interfered with yarn croak being able to go to the puck carrier he's just standing dead still on the blue line there's no advantage there boo and it was forever before the goal yeah i think i'm over i'm over offside reviews if we're doing millimeter skates over the ice and you're taking away goals it's stupid can we say this can we say this sure uh here's my solution the offside is very very simple uh after the first two shots you lose your right so you so let's say you come in on a rush if you come in on a rush and you get a shot and the rebound that can that those are all

fair game after that because we've had we've had them come back like 45 seconds that is so interesting because if a player has a puck crosses the line but he's not sure if he was on side or not he's gonna shoot it and we're all gonna be like what the what was that yeah but it's because he wasn't sure that would be fascinating and then we start talking more about goalies and oh you got to grab that rebound because they're looking for the second shot and if they don't get the second shot off the first shot it has to be a clean off the pad to the next player then everything's good to go so now we're adding more rules to it well no because i think i think you know it could be 45 seconds before you get the second shot right do you know what i mean i'm

talking about a rebound that's it but then we're like what counts as a shot you know so all of this though you're right all of this you're right remember why we what why do we have this because we are matt duchesne hell but no we're hell bent on getting the call right well no the reason we have this is for the egregious ones no the one where yeah that's that that's just for getting the call right the one uh it was it's the sharks right the sharks are the reason we have this no uh it was well i don't remember who it was against but it was it was dushane when he was still on the avalanche oh and he was 45 yards offside and um it counted no that was against the preds the preds he now plays for yeah it's that's the reason we have and we it's it's such a difficult like

seesaw battle here between we need this because we can't have those if somebody if a ref blows a call we need a way for somebody to be like okay let's fix it but we can't also be taking back goals where it doesn't matter if the guy was on side or not by a freaking hair very easy solution that was a six and a half minute review oh my god six and a half see i i obviously i didn't watch the game live i was asleep it's like 10 o'clock at night and that's yeah that's all So it was six and a half minutes? Thank God that wasn't a Saturday night during one of your streams. Two.

Two. You get 120 seconds. If you can't make a decision, done. If you can't make a decision, call in the ice stands, no goal. Two minutes, 120 seconds. Start the clock, figure it out. Six and a half? Two minutes is still too long.

Minute. One minute. Well, six and a half is more than triple. Yeah. Because math. Yeah. Now, wait, though. So even though he didn't really gain an advantage from it,

offside is offside. We cannot have it unless, you know, because getting the call right is paramount, unless you're not allowed to get it right, which we saw yesterday with the Rangers and Avalanche. Can we briefly talk about that? Yeah, go. Because it's all part of the conversation.

so i don't remember the players involved uh alexi lafreniere i believe from the rangers gets called for a high stick because i think it was kale mccarr hit devon taves in the face with his stick it doesn't matter who the players were there was a ranger who got called for a high stick meanwhile it was an avalanche player who hit one of his teammates in the face of his high stick for sale mccarr lafreniere uh served the penalty kale mccarr is the actual one who committed the high stick so for some reason they review it for some reason they review and they spent i think it was four minutes reviewing it so there's so when when it's a double minor you can review it a referee can review a double minor but you can't review a minor yes so if it's a if it's double

mining for high sticking that's a rule you can review it so they reviewed it they saw that they were wrong they saw it so when you see it and so the rules say that things need to be called a certain way so i guess they weren't allowed to review it yeah because on the ice they called it a regular high stick but if it was a double minor then they could have reviewed it but because they called a regular high stick they couldn't review it so they they shouldn't have reviewed it here's my thing they did though you did you already saw you were wrong and because of the rules you ignored the rules because of the rule about review you ignore the rule about what is and isn't a penalty you saw that you were wrong and at that point not correcting yourself

is committing to being wrong you're committing to making the wrong call what kind of silly grade school bullshit is that right reverse it dummy you got it wrong you saw that you got it wrong there but in so that review by the way took five minutes that's outrageous it was a five minute review and during that five minutes they saw they were they it wasn't a high stick and then they went back to galan galan and they told them hey we weren't actually supposed to do that we're not allowed to review it unless it's the double minor so 120 seconds remember this the nhl is worried about finishing their their games at a certain time won't let you do 10 minutes of three on three overtime or 20 minutes of three on three overtime because they're worried about not

finishing on time so you have to eat the shootout because they're worried about finishing on time and they'll spend six minutes on one review and five on another that doesn't even count as a review yeah i tell you what i i know uh two minutes is never gonna happen three final offer it allows everyone to prep all the angles to look at everything three minutes if it's a problem hire more people it's not the nhl is talking about how oh man we're making so much cash the players are gonna have us paid back it's great hire a few people for 100k who can who are hockey experts and they can sit in that office in toronto or new york or timbuktu wherever you want to put that or wherever your favorite team plays calm down it doesn't matter and they're watching

the game and they're the people assigned to the game yeah i i think what's that cost you a couple hundred extra grand a year i think that's one of the best solutions that you can have here is that so i was at the u.s open this summer and the way they do reviews in tennis is that they don't do challenges anymore it's just they have the tracker in the ball and on the lines if a ball is close to being in or out the umpire just sits there presses a button and checks nobody challenges anything anymore there's no hey you get three of these it's just let me just check to see if it was internet and then they make the call we should go towards a system where there's just people watching a tv and they just tell you hey this is the right call take away these fucking challenges

yeah why do they have to challenge it if the goal is to get it right employ eight people every night to watch the games that go on and then just tell the referee in their ear hey that is the call make it on the ice just do that get it right every time there's two laptops in this room both of them have a bigger screen than the one that nhl officials have to make why why are these referees looking at a little ipad to make a decision while also talking the situation room getting some feedback and stuff but they're literally making these decisions on these ipads take it out of their hands take it out of the coach's hands have a person just say this is the right call go make it it'll speed it'll be 10 seconds yeah every year there's a board of

governors meeting that no actual fan gives a fuck about but i think it's probably a treasure treasure trove of information that you're able to pursue over the year and i understand why insiders find it valuable as a fan i could not care less about the board of governor meetings They have one of these every single year and they haven't solved either. Oh, they have two of them. A couple times a year, yeah. We have two free trips to Florida

or whatever other nice destination. New York and Florida. New York and Florida. That makes sense. That makes sense. One of each or whatever. You have two opportunities per year and this has never been brought up or resolved.

Get a bigger screen. Put a limit on the review. Come on. Put me in charge. I'll fix this shit in two days. Take it out of their hands. Take it out of these refs' hands. have a person have a fucking person in toronto employ eight guys every night no it's like there's

like four people it's weird it's like why wouldn't you have 16 i don't know you know you got it like listen they're willing to pay a bunch of refs who are bad at it why not pay a bunch of video guys who are good at it there are refs that are legitimately oh man i had a real deep dive in scouting the refs and i know my again holy holy moly but there are some interesting things on that you got to put them in a position to succeed at very least agreed if you see a ref Alright, screen's not big enough We gotta figure this out guys We gotta figure this out

offensively engvall camp yarn croak and then you can have a fourth line uh a just an asshole line of aston race kerfoot and obey kubel or you could have kerfoot malgan is it that they won't put on the fourth line i don't well they did it last year though i and briefly briefly and he's going to find his minutes he's going to get on the second power play unit he's going to

kill penalties he's going to find his minutes the the justification for putting him on the fourth line and it not being a big deal is the exact same as it is for david camp i just think camp is a more effective player and he immediately gives your line an identity the fourth line has been more effective this season than the third and it's because of him because of him he's just gonna he's going to play his way back under the third line there's just no they need to your lines i think are the lines they need to go with when it's like crunch time and stuff but they need to just call that fourth line the third line shouldn't you just say the engvall camp line is the fourth line fuck it so they're gonna change it when they need to be their best what if they were at their best

all game right what if you just played that again put please put me in charge like i'm guys what if you're just good all the time i think there's still kind of a weird resistance to put kerfoot on the fourth line because of the money he makes but just call it the third line and play whatever kind of minutes you want to dole out as the game goes on i think the lines that i mentioned are good enough that you could flip-flop them yeah who cares it's okay you know what these guys don't have it tonight you're gonna play 11 12 minutes whatever it is like take the time you have allotted for the bottom six you can split it evenly you can give one to lion share you could hey what if you're up three nothing after like eight minutes and then yeah play the third line

a whole bunch play david camp with whoever a whole bunch because you're trying to kill the game what like what of the the kerfoot engvall yarn croak line have you seen that gives you the impression they're good at anything they're they're not effective offensively they're they're not exactly your shutdown line it's not working egg belt does stuff he's out there he does busy nothing that that third line is the busy nothing line they do a bunch of busy nothing but they sure the legs are moving and i like all three of those players individually oh yeah all three of them no i think you hate them should i think you should be in the lineup and they should be effective but the way they are together doesn't work yeah it doesn't work they're the second line all year

last year with uh again it was Kerfoot Tavares and Nylander we looked at it and we're like this should work it didn't yeah except for the nights where it did but and like I think on Monday that during the game it wasn't even like those lines weren't fantastic but it was also the top lines they couldn't get anything in the net no they got their heads caved in by Vegas well and and let me ask you this Lee fans have wanted to trade Kerfoot since he got here right has he ever he's fit at times but has he ever had this is what you are stapled to him he went to the cody franzen school of forgotten performances um where he was wonderful filling in for tavaris in the montreal series and then they blew it yeah so everyone forgot you know there were a few really good

kneel under at five goals in seven games in that series and no one remembers that shit Kerfoot has been one of the most useful players in his tenure as a Toronto Maple Leaf. He's been able to play every single spot in this lineup and I think that's gone a little unnoticed. And goal.

nhl probably in the vegas golden knights statistically to start this season you know they can skate the the fourth line um with uh clifford and simmons made a lot of sense against the jets and i said previously it didn't make nearly as much sense against vegas because those guys can fucking skate they earned it can skate they earned it according to keith they earned about you being they earned they earned the ability for us to not be as effective against our opponent have i not what kind of political 20 minutes on that on the on monday show yeah no they were great for the jets you refused to admit that they were great no they had a good moment versus the jets they were not great versus the jets they were the right guys and this is what

that um has gone down because we now have a little bit more certainty when it comes to the cap and all the forecasts are good all the forecasts are positive so you can acquire a good player for a hit this season the the appeal is for the seasons that follow but we're expecting the cap to go up significantly so the urgency to pay top dollar for a contract like this isn't there anymore if there's an announcement that oh actually never mind we screwed up the cap's not going to go up for five years all of a sudden the price for jacob chickering skyrockets but it's heading in the opposite direction i also think the reporting in itself is a little premature because the deal's not going to happen until he plays hockey for the arizona coyotes so like we're we're in pre
