Sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where
TaskRabbit comes in and I think you should check this out because here's the deal.
One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor
to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows.
And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window, you can do that yourself.
And I'm like, well, hang on a second.
What if I don't want to?
I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals.
see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task
rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance
mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have
been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your

The Steve Dangle Podcast.
With your hosts, Steve Dangle, Adam Lyle, and Jesse Blake.
Adam's coughing up a lung.
Stop!
One sip of coffee, and it's like, no, I'm going down the wrong part.
He's got the black plate.
I know.
Anyway.
No, there's cream in it.
Hey, it's our last week before vacation.
So we got this today.
We obviously have VIP.
Jesse, when's the VIP coming out now?
Wednesdays.
Wednesdays.
So that's tomorrow.
And then Thursday, we have our show.
And obviously, we have VIP all August as well.
But everybody, we do need a break.
And, you know, frankly, I'm sure you could use a break from us.
Because I think it's good.
A little bit of missing each other makes the heart grow fonder.
And then we're going to hit it hard.
I remember walking into the 20, I think it was the 23, 24, the 24, 25 first week and going, man, there's not a whole lot going on.
And then bang, Mike Babcock, Columbus.
And it was just, you know, horses from the start.
Let's go.
But before we get into any of that, we should mention that we have a live show.
What?
Wow.
and that is saturday september 26 2026 thank you to whoever wrote the script because they
actually put the date at the top because i usually get it wrong the course at clubhouse
at saint catherine and you know what's great about it it's on a saturday which is so much
better than a friday because the traffic will be way less bad on a saturday than on a friday
very important huge now this is saint catherine's hub for indoor golf uh 5ht simulator so if you
want to golf uh all winter long this is the place to go and i hate talking about winter now but you
know that in t minus seven days we're gonna get back to school stuff anyway um five hd golf
simulators that feature 40 real courses and many other options including driving ranges arcade
games there's the full kitchen and bar featuring made from scratch elevated pub food actually the
food's incredible there uh draft beer uh tickets go on sale actually ticket sales are live right
now uh 25 plus tax there are 200 available and it has sold out two straight years so why not make
it a third is it is it two straight years or three it might even be this is or is no this i think is
our fourth year this is number four i think so i don't know i can we've been there remember three
times yeah this is like a yearly tradition now every time i go back they have more kids doors
are at they do well i guess business is good um doors at open at 5 p.m live show starts at 7
And don't forget, you'll have to go head-to-head with Jesse Blake for the longest drive competition.
Yes.
Because Jesse can actually smack the shit out of that thing.
And you won a couple of years, and then you lost last year, didn't you?
Yes, last year I lost, which is good.
You know, I don't want to win every year.
Right.
But, yeah, it's an annual tradition.
I set a mark at the top of the day, and then everybody who comes in has to try and beat that longest drive.
What was it?
Last year, I think I was a little low.
i think i was like just uh just above 300 or something someone was like 310 or something
like that man that's embarrassing i feel like you did 330 once yeah i i think it was a little
juice based on where we were playing we're we're all playing the simulator in like bamf you know
and like the air like the ball's just flying based in the sim settings and everything so
everybody is using that same one so like the numbers aren't true but it's just a fun game
it's a good time uh so there's that and then people were asking for an update on maddie
our former producer who now lives in london england um i like to say it that way yes england
very off-putting um maddie i just want to give you a quick update has gotten herself a job yeah
at a marketing agency and here's the fun part it was a steve dangle podcast listener that got it
for we're going to give a big shout out to cassie we've got cassie's everywhere looking after people
We've got Cassie from Pennsylvania, who's always on our live streams.
And we got the Cassie clan extends to London, England.
So this is a Dallas Stars fan who does not like the Leafs at all.
Big listener from London who reached out directly to Maddie and helped her get a job at this advertising agency.
So we wish, obviously, Maddie the best of luck.
But Cassie, thank you.
And I love the family of the Steve Dangle podcast, how far it stretches.
That's crazy.
So good.
So happy for her.
And also, I was like, why would a non-Leaf fan be such a hardcore?
And then I was like, oh, if you hate the Leafs, there must be episodes of this show that hit like crack.
Oh, that'd be fun.
And one of them might have been last show.
Yeah, absolutely.
I'm not sure.
And so, yeah, I mentioned family.
I mentioned love.
Before we get to Dylan Larkin, we should open some cards.
But I would like to start the show with Dylan Larkin and the family comments.
So why don't we pull the cards out?
The Goodwin champions.
and steve you were saying to jesse that there are a couple of these cards that are doing quite well
on ebay right now but they're not yours they're the mine are doing all right you're doing okay
no but we're talking about the 500 card level so there's an i don't think she's a base card but
anna taylor joy um the actress is uh she has an autograph queen's gambit for those not familiar
yes queen's gambit and other things too no queen's gambit that burger movie what's the burger movie
where she's like i'm still fucking hungry i don't remember her auto is going for 500 you said 500
wow step up your game steve i think i have a special one i do have a special oh oh go ahead
so dakota decheva is an mma fighter and i got a memorabilia card of hers this is uh worn by her
whatever wow that's sick look at that it's thick yeah that's cool here show people the side oh yeah
it's like oh that's one card yeah here's a normal card the stack of cards yeah it looks like it yeah
you're right that's you're holding the whole set you got interesting i like that i am not familiar
but i will look this person up i got gabriella brian i think we've had this one before caroline
marks a surfer and a communist i have my little insert here nicole egert same brain nicole egert
do you guys know her i don't know nicole this is 326 of 399 she's apparently from baywatch oh i
was lectured for not knowing her there you go did you watch a lot of baywatch that was that did you
watch a lot of baywatch not the original no it's predating us i think that's people forget how old
that show is it's old yeah bella hines and jackson canwell football player i prefer jackson canwell
hey there it is again i have denny hamlin race car driver extraordinaire yes indeed i have this
is fun uh they have a remote most remote locations card and i got easter island off of chile uh
settled by to a two canoe expedition from the maray renga easter island is now accessible only
by plane though uh the journey is still long the remote islands mysterious moai statues draw many
curious travelers and those are the ones you know the big stone faces that oh i know the easter
island pretty darn cool yeah uh jackson can't well i also have him as well so jesse and i both got
him uh hyder a mill i don't know anybody from mma so cool i don't i don't really anymore yeah uh and
then i got i like this one this is a very special this is a hologram card of a very famous novelist
alexandra dumas or dumas yeah dumas um and he is a french author of the count of monte cristo
and uh the three musketeers he's the guy that wrote it three musketeers okay yeah yeah so that's
they call him alexander dumbass shawshank redemption is that what they do yeah because
he doesn't know how to pronounce it oh it's dumas there's a movie steve has watched yeah it's it's
shawshank and moneyball yeah we should we should have like a bingo card of steve
you can see it in theaters or in 50 60 parts on tiktok so you should have a letterbox like you
should have a letterbox where we're just like there's like five movies on it and people can
just see the five movies you've seen land before time one land before time two all right are the
kids moneyball i'm not done land before time three uh i love in land before time two when
the triceratops or the brachiosaurus gets called a water waster oh water waster i was like i saw
recently it's uh do you ever see a cartoon where you want to eat the food from the cartoon
yeah and they start talking about the cheese pizza from the goofy movie and the the grass
that spikes eat uh spike eats from friggin land before time yeah that's true i like that one i
also like the steaks from looney tunes they always look good oh that's a good answer yeah yeah and
now also there's the um whatever scar feeds the hyenas before he sings that be prepared song in
lion king it's i believe it's a zebra is it a zebra yeah that looked good a zebra okay okay
sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where
task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things
one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean

um dylan larkin doesn't think detroit was much of a family oh this is from chicklets
uh ryan whitney apparently said this but i don't know i don't know how much we put in this
what i really want to talk about is jim rutherford oh and can jim rutherford fix this so that i i'll
be honest with you i didn't listen to chicklets to verify this but dylan larkin was apparently
telling anyone that that um that the the that the uh gold medal team was much more of a family
than the red wings organization that's that's the
all right i don't know that that's the case but we were wondering with eiserman gone
could this relationship be shifted yeah i think that's a completely insane way to operate well
and people are anyone by the way people are also ripping him for that topless picture did you see
that oh at the baseball game yeah i was like come on it's off season who cares let him have a good
time he's not the first hockey player to have an upper body where you go that guy's an olympic
athlete but you want a gold medal yeah he is jim rutherford who is old let's just call it what
nearly 80 old ran a very talented Canucks group into the ground and is now a no but he had great
runs with the Penguins great runs with the Carolina Hurricanes already in the Hall of Fame
already in the Hall of Fame and is still an advisor to Yager is not the ownership group
in Vancouver but apparently there is a yes he's still signed he makes from what I what I'm told
he makes like way more than ryan johnson uh does to be the general actually yes uh like way more
now jim rutherford to detroit i don't you know the dylan larkin thing that's hearsay i don't know
but jeff merrick who knows people and knows stuff said the red wings are taking a long
hard look at jim rutherford as a potential replacement for steve eiserman in detroit
larkin comment whether it's real or it's fake aside can jim rutherford come in and steady this
because it seems like dylan larkin's gonna have to be in camp if he's not willing to
to you know open it up to more than four teams right right what is this oh no are you serious
i was just making sure you had seen that and apparently you haven't red wings i had not seen
that red wings fans were tweeting about he said jeff merrick says please ignore this this is not
what i said yeah i'm glad that you said that i thought you were gonna get to it and i'm like
just in case he hasn't seen no i'm glad you said it he he said please ignore this uh it's not what
i said at all he followed up a couple times with what did he say uh he didn't say that okay he
seemed upset yeah the the because i was gonna lean into it and be like merrick said this and
he means it with the force of a thousand suns but you wouldn't be in on the bit yeah so like what i
was gonna say it would have been funny it would have been funny well what i was gonna say is you
know whether it's jim rutherford or anyone like they could be walking into like kind of an
interesting situation in detroit like kind of well no it's very interesting kind of a favorable
one okay because you're not coming in with nothing you're not coming into a team that
has nothing you're coming into a team that has problems and the way they're currently built i
wouldn't really expect them to do anything you might also have to trade your captain but
you have mo cider you have lucas raymond you do you have some nice young talent like i keep talking
about chicago and hey maybe maybe they got all these guys you know but there's far more proof
of concept with some of the young guys in detroit because they're a little older um you could be
walking into a program where you look like a genius by really not doing all that much
or it might be an enormous amount of work and probably too much work for someone almost 80
years old so here's what i wondered if jim rutherford or otherwise do you would you agree
that jesse and steve you need somebody with serious experience to take over this role because
i think you do i think jim rutherford should probably just stay in vancouver and finish it
out but i think you need somebody who's got some real experience here not that eisman didn't but
it didn't work because i think you're gonna have to come in and i think you're gonna have to clear
a lot of these people out it feels a little bit like what the leafs have been doing and the least
we're making the playoffs the entire time except for last year the least we're like hey we missed
the playoffs one year screw this goodbye everybody because when we do get to the playoffs the the
the it's just not good enough.
I think in Detroit,
you have some very intelligent people,
but when you have a system,
that's clearly a little bit stale,
a friend office that has been hit or miss on the draft picks.
There've been some great draft picks,
most either Lucas Raymond,
Raymond among them,
but then you have your Phillips Adina's and,
and,
and that got to happen,
but you don't want to miss when you're that high.
No,
I think you've got to have somebody who has a team already in place of
people that they're ready to bring in with them i don't think you can throw um like a john i don't
think you could put a john shika in this situation i don't think you can put a kyle dubas as the you
know agm of the leafs in this situation i think you've got to have somebody who's top top guy
like rutherford and then have a general manager under them almost like what masai did in toronto
where he took all the criticism and bobby webster just sort of operated in the shadows okay that's
interesting so is that not what vancouver tried to do though like they had him and patrick
olivine now here's the thing vancouver ownership and detroit ownership not comparable that's fair
not comparable at all that's definitely fair one of them has a practice facility right oh my god
that's so disgraceful and also there are reports out of vancouver that they're trying to shed 20
million dollars in cap space because i mentioned why weeks and months ago that there's some money
issues coming up for them oh my holy lord um so i and also so so this is this is the thing detroit
like where if it's rutherford if it's not if jeff merrick said it if he didn't he didn't
what is what are we going for here at the top of the detroit leadership totem pole i'm not throwing
out this okay steve eisenman came in honestly as the perfect candidate like you know hindsight 2020
we all thought that was great he built an incredible team in tampa and he had that
experience so he was like a great combination of uh experienced and and fresh um but he has
a hall of fame pedigree he's a franchise icon he was at the time literally the perfect candidate
so you could go for you could go for what is the obvious decision and still whiff by a thousand
miles right i think they need a completely fresh set of eyes i agree with you yeah like and like
i don't mean fresh as in someone with a hall of fame pedigree who's in their late 70s who uh can
come in and you know he doesn't necessarily have a recent connection to detroit i'm i'm not throwing
this name out there to throw this name out there i'm throwing this name out there to throw this
type out there jason spezza okay that kind of guy so he's been under dubas's tutelage for
five roughly half years ish yep and it's run the american league team for a couple years
that's the kind of guy what does he built if you're talking about you're not talking about
no i'm not talking about him directly but i am i'm talking about that type like i don't think
there's enough experience there to manage an ownership group though but different situation
than vancouver right like yeah but spats what i'm saying is you still have to manage up to
chris illich you do but i don't i don't generally get the impression ownership is a massive problem
in detroit if anything they're a massive problem big enough problem yes well right like they they
He, Iserman should have been fired, I mean, jeez, at least, at least a year ago.
Jesse, two names, two names where I think if Detroit had acted earlier, they probably
could have had a line on these guys.
If they'd acted last year, which was probably a year late in firing Iserman, they could
have probably had Matthew Darsh, who is now with the Islanders and is the assistant general
manager for Tampa during those great years.
if they had i mean there's this is going back way far but jim nill was the assistant general
manager under ken holland they could have had him too and maybe you entice him to come back
because he only had a year left on his deal in dallas until they signed him to the extension
this offseason what do you see for detroit to write this because i think steve's correct in
the sense that there is some talent on this team yeah i don't think somebody with experience is
totally necessary like experience in the general manager role i look at somebody like evan gold
who just left the Boston Bruins organization,
I think he'd be perfectly fine to take over in Detroit
because when you go to and you look at Detroit's staff
and how it's currently organized,
there are enough people with that type of experience
that you'd be looking for.
Nick Lidstrom, Chris Draper, Nicholas Cronwall,
and Dan Cleary are all members of the front office.
They have every ex-Detroit Red Wing,
every champion that you would see in an organization
that you want out of your front office.
They have that already there.
and Horkoff don't get yeah and Sean Horkoff as well he's assistant GM but who knows if that
changes um if you bring in somebody new um also runs Grand Rapids but um I think it's perfectly
fine if you just go with a completely new vision here for the front office in terms of somebody who
may not have that most experience or is like an elder statesman I think they need what you said
is a fresh set of eyes and the best thing there might be somebody who's actually gonna think
differently than the other guys around the league who've just done this before do you keep the guys
do you keep the guys that are there like do you keep all those ex-players it depends on like i
think of course there's going to be useful people around i don't think somebody just comes in and
blows out the whole whole thing because it's so late in the off season um obviously there's gonna
be some changes depending on who wants to come in and bring in their own people but i don't think
you blow out the front office on the end of august or mid-august or whenever this this uh new general
managers are going to take over i don't think it's practical i think the perfect middle ground
between the type of person adam was talking about and the type of person i was talking about is
chris traper yeah been around long enough already there but would you bring in somebody who's been
a part of so many failures here this is part of the problem that detroit runs i think i'd be willing
to give i mean geez there's this this was the problem with steve eisenman but i'm gonna go
ahead and fall right back into that trap the names are crazy yeah right now how are they as as
managers and executives i don't know but like the fact that you have lidstrom there the fact that
you have draper there nicholas cronwall those are some names man those are some crazy yes i don't
think it i don't think it helps just bringing in more of them i think i think you can bring in
somebody from the outside to help this organization reset and i think it's a good opportunity for
detroit to do a full reset here because there's it's it's not great if you're just looking at
the talent side and their competition side with the atlantic division so i don't think like you
need to just keep running this thing back like go take use this as an opportunity to do a full
reset here of the organization yeah well it's it's i think what's um really intriguing about
detroit is and i know nobody wants to hear this there but you could be the only team that zags
when everybody is zigging in your in the atlantic everybody's going for wins this year if you
if you play reset game while everybody else is playing i gotta make the playoffs this year or
i'm gonna lose my job game you could harvest uh great assets and be ready to go in a year
i know detroit fans don't want that well look at it look at it like uh you're in a great environment
to fleece teams that's what i'm saying yeah you know what i mean like yeah we're saying the same
thing i'm just putting a little more uh sexy on it my version is better pr okay all right you know
what i mean how do you get detroit fans on board we're smart you are chasing wins they're just
later you're not chasing losses but they've been chasing future wins for 11 years no they've been
chasing now wins and they've been chasing both and it's hard you can't do both to do well you can
it's just hard though um
they're oh man there's such a we looked at the roster the other day
it's painful right it's painful and like at this point in the off season i think you might be kind
of stuck with an internal candidate who the hell are you getting well that's why it was so surprising
when he was let go the timing of that and it seems like it was the Larkin situation that finally did
him in Iserman that is and then it's okay you're firing somebody so my question to Chris Illich
would be okay so what are your expectations the rest of the year can I can I do a little side
quest please for Red Wings fans yeah Dylan Larkin appears to be having the summer of his life
and red wings fans are very pissed how do you feel about that because like listen
this this will happen every now and then i remember years ago the leafs were on like a
losing streak in california and they went to like disneyland and posted about it on social
and everyone was like screw you guys this guy won a gold medal it's the off season he's living his
best life how do you feel he looks the happiest i've ever seen him in my entire life in every
photo that's gotta i don't know i think that might rub me the wrong way you out loud would be like
nope he's allowed he's entitled to sure he's allowed you don't have to like it a little
rip allowed the reptilian part of your brain is still there's no way you love it right um
at this point i mean we're chasing august here i think you might have to go internal do you have
to name a gm well i think you gotta have some sort of leadership like who okay if i'm if i'm
trying to do a deal with detroit and i want one of your veteran players who am i calling
steve eiserman he's still the general manager until they find a replacement so is that that's
true yes is that the case sorry i don't know you're very deep cut that's a deep cut deep cut
Yeah, deep cut.
Is that the case?
That is the case.
That's so...
That's weird.
But, like, if you're calling Detroit and, like, you're serious about it,
can I talk to someone who's going to be here?
You know what I mean?
No.
I think it's perfectly fine.
I think he's the general manager while they do their search, right?
I guess, Jess, we've just been hearing that things are perfectly fine
with him at the helm for five years and nothing's happened.
Here's what it is.
The thing with Detroit is it's like, okay, do you want a new vision?
yes well we're going to keep the old guy until we find the new guy and he's going to assist with the
new guy so are we speaking like is this a tunnel vision quest here are we trying to get more of
the same we're talking about detroit more and more often because they're the team that has the most
questions who is their leadership uh on the ice and off the ice who is their leadership on the
ice are they trading them or not yeah are they going to begin the season with them um and then
i started seeing to bring its name and stuff like prime off-season content we're there that's a tale
as old as time july to bring it why would they trade him was the ufa maybe he wants to he's
eligible for an extension so if you're not able to come to terms with him that's a pretty big
trade asset you have because you have to move in some sort of direction here where i think you
shouldn't be good next year and you should be trying to stink so maybe that's in play there
but i don't know if you can resign him you resign so if eisman's truly in charge what confuses me
about this scenario is you know patrick came this weekend i think was on part of my take and he
talked about the fact that he had a deal with detroit and then eisenman was let go and and
and then he said and then and then he did they lost like contact or well he he basically said
things happened and that's all he said and now i'm in chicago so if they had a deal in place
which is patrick kane saying they did so who's in charge like what does that even mean i think
they made a good decision by not keeping patrick kane i agree i think that would make them better
but i don't think should be the goal for this year the heavy implication though jesse is
eiserman wanted to keep him the team fired eiserman when they had a deal in principle
and then he was like well i guess i'm going to buffalo or chicago then well then they so who's
in charge i think the team saved eiserman for making a mistake then okay but who's in charge
steve goes back to steve's question if i'm calling and it's steve eiserman is steve really in charge
Now let's, let's use another example from around the NHL that I think could be interesting for Detroit and that's Colorado because Chris McFarlane has now gone to Nashville and I think we can see by all the moves he's made and by a bunch of the, the transactions he's had with Colorado as the GM of the, of the Preds, him and Joe Sackick, while obviously they got along well enough to win a cup together, they think differently, right?
they have some different ideas do some of the ideas that could save the red wings exist within
their pre the the front office they already have do you see how this conversation is so much harder
than with most teams yeah i think because the organization in flux you know that's that's the
reality of the team but it's like quiet flux you know you know what i mean no but i don't it's
pretty loud i just i just yeah but i don't feel like i have anything to grab onto it's well like
i don't feel like i can walk in a certain direction confidently i don't know what they're
doing i don't know what they want to do i don't know what they want to be i don't know what the
goal is i don't i mean that's every off season i don't think they've answered that question yet at
this point like they just fired the guy who's in charge so you can't you're asking questions that
they don't even have the answer to because they don't have the next guy in charge so we're at the
the flex point where we're going from one area to the next so the questions you're asking are
unanswerable right from even their side i guess i guess the stress for me is august is a mothball
month for hockey and everyone's impossible to get a hold of and then you know i know the first game
isn't until the end of september but like if you don't have your ducks in a row by september 1st
like like i don't know when camps open but i think it's not long after that
what do you what are you hiring a gm during the season i don't think they're sitting on
their hands right now i don't know what they're doing yeah this is this is yeah but how are you
supposed to know i don't think they're gonna announce like the details of the search like
things could be happening right now and you're just not aware of it like i don't think they
should be letting the public know it is the end of july it should be said they're not a leaky ship
like nothing comes out of detroit that isn't coming directly from the players or made up totally
so like the debris cat thing i think was a speculation and the larkin thing i think came
from him other than that you don't get anything out of detroit yeah they're not really in like
most juicy rumors you never see any of their stuff coming the jason robertson stuff was
i think just pure speculation that was kind of fun and sort of made a little sense and as much
as like we kind of knew that eisenman and larkin didn't have a great relationship that never
like really was it was talked about a little but it was never kind of out there until it got out
there it never spilled to the end right they they do run a tight ship they could announce
nicholas lidstrom today yeah like oh okay we just didn't i think it's the opposite of the leafs
where it's that with the leaves we heard every name that was talked to all 40 guys along the way
i even look at like max boltman and helen st james who are great reporters down there in detroit and
there isn't a whole lot from them either i just think there's a you're right it's a pretty it's
a tight ship um my worry with the red wings is always that they're doing what they're always
doing which is nothing um and i i have no reason to believe otherwise i really don't but this is
something they fired the guy that you've been upset with like from 2019 onwards that's the
whole bunch of bad gming that's been done with by eiserman and they got rid of that guy so i think
now it's about to wait and see how the process plays out for the next guy to come in and do it
yeah i agree they did the thing you've been asking them to do i know but they haven't really laid out
a plan of what they want to do or what they want to be and i know that that comes with bringing in
a new general manager um but you don't do that in july you don't normally do that in july but the
the larkin situation forced their hand like the had the guy in charge how did you hear and you're
right jesse i'm how does the larkin situation force your hand but making the not making the
playoffs does it i understand what adam's saying like like so so all the time four years in a row
you just you disappear in march but it's larkin wanting out that's finally the nail in the coffin
that does not track with me that doesn't sound to me like a healthy organization that's got its head
on straight they picked an odd time to blink yeah like if you're gonna do that like who cares about
the larkin trade thing aside it should have been last year should have been last year and it
definitely should have been april 18th this year when the nhl regular season I think I think all
of that is true and now they're trying to move forward from that okay so like i feel like okay
yes all of those things were mistakes and now it's trying to be undone so it's like okay we can go
over the mistakes again and we keep going over the mistakes but now they're trying they've undone it
like they've if we're it's different if we're sitting here and eiserman's still the general
manager but they they did the thing yeah for all they should have done it a year ago but the best
time to plant the tree is right now right yes yeah i think there's a greater than zero percent
chance they begin the office or begin the season with stevie why is the general manager yeah
apparently yeah but it's i think it would be hilarious the i mean i hate to make everything
about the leaves but the the the mark hunter dubas thing where they just sort of ran it
themselves for a few months yeah i and and that worked out okay i mean they got through the draft
they got through free agency you seem to forget that that was this season as well brad for living
was fired oh yeah not before the end of the season oh you're right it was a long two months where
they're trying to find chica and the bruins did it with um difference wasn't gonna do anything
the bruins did it in like 07 with jeff gorton and got you know zidane ochara patrice bergeron
brad martian and uh like just crazy names all in one thing you can be done you just showed up like
spider-man they've missed the most productive part of the offseason is right yeah i guess yeah
they royally screwed up that situation until the end that's that's right then you've got to i think
you've got to sell the fans on like because again i what i think about is and again in detroit this
is less of a concern but like what are you telling season ticket holders what do you tell them hey
man victor arvidsson you got to tell them we got to stink a couple more years i think because this
year this year if they're bad that's fantastic for them with everybody going for it that's that's
awesome but so smart fans will realize that like now there's gonna actually be a change in detroit
uh you're not good this year and then there's so many contracts coming off the books this year
that they can truly reset their team this coming season and the next off season then get going for
the 27 28 season like there's a there's a good opportunity to be good very quickly as long as
you're commit to being bad for one more season the nhl because there's so much parody is prone to
uh screw it teams where they just say screw it and friggin i don't know we're uh we're fifth
place in the conference because screw it well that's the entire uh pacific division last year
yeah screw it we're making the playoffs because screw it like that could be detroit
sure with no changes i i doubt that in the atlantic but i also doubt it but it could easily
happen the one team that was supposed to be bad last year was the pittsburgh penguins and they
made the playoffs they were in a 32 team league they were the only team we were like yeah well
they're going backwards and they made the playoffs yeah the flyers i don't think anybody had them in
the playoffs even come like january when they start going their real run it was it was surprises
happened in the nhl one of the weirdest standing seasons oh yeah very long time oh yeah a lot of
flux you gotta try breakfast at a and w you gotta try breakfast at a and w

register today at pmcfwalk.ca um uh the edmonton oilers had a golf tournament yesterday uh and
obviously this is a lot of the you know the city reporters first time talking with the players
about mike babcock and you know from what we've heard zach hyman was chief among the people saying
we got to hire this guy there is connections between the hyman family and babcock family
also with branford as well um oh that's right um but you know zach said yesterday i obviously had
a very good experience with mike in toronto uh he said he did a great job with a lot of the young
players that were there all of us have had pretty long careers and are still playing he set the
foundation for us i think he's a phenomenal coach i think extremely highly of him i have the video
here of hyman and mcdavid sure let's see on babcock yeah what kind of camera is this uh really
good it's the same one the kings use for all of their content it's really hollywood uh they're
using at the movie level hyman golf tourney zach through the mike babcock process how many of your
teammates reached out what's wrong it's beautiful to you because obviously it's we know what kind
of situation it was and shout out mike zeisberger i was about to just your viewpoint of of him
coming in yeah lots of teammates obviously when you're the guy who's played for a coach that's
coming in um everybody wants your opinion or your your take on it and um I obviously had a very good
experience with Mike uh in Toronto uh and I thought that he he did a great job with a lot
of the young players that were there two of the young guys that were there all of us have had
pretty long careers and they're still playing and uh he set the foundation for us so I think he's a
phenomenal coach I think extremely highly of him and and I'm happy he went through the process
with the NHL and the NHLPA and all those questions were were answered and I think from a player
standpoint we're excited for for what he brings when you get team leadership buying it not only
yourself but a Connor how important was that to you know have them have their questions answered
as well i think that's everything i think that's where where sports is going is players have a lot
of um insight into especially players of their caliber into what they're looking for and we we
all want to win that's the goal um and i think that to have the ability to actually talk to
somebody before they come in and understand what they would do and what their philosophy is and
how they like to coach and um to be able to to talk to them before the decision is made i think
was was a great experience that's a whole lot of nothing yep which is why i i highlighted the the
the one sentence that mattered um because you know i think i think there's a defensiveness
with this hiring with these players i think they've taken a ton of criticism well they're
asked to defend it yeah constantly and and so um and i i think the world is that kind and i love
him i wish he was still here i was looking at him and i was just like i think you know it's him and
noz oh he might sting more because like it just didn't have he stings he stings more yeah it
happened because other players demanded a lot more money than perhaps they should have let's do an
hour and five minutes on it um but i think i think that there's you know i mean zach is very highly
respected in that room what i think is the most interesting is he got connor and leon on board
with it and their answers and jesse i think you have them queued up here are i think a lot more
insightful we knew zach hyman and and mike babcock were friendly go ahead and play the connor if you
want here's uh connor mcdavid connor once you got your questions answered with babs how exciting is
it to move forward given that you look at his track record internationally in the nhl i mean
he's a proven winner yeah i think that that's what obviously we see um we see a great opportunity um
to be coached by um you know someone who's who's coached in every single big game there is to coach
in who's you know been successful won cups gold medals you name it he's done it um you know it's
it's a great opportunity for us players to uh to uh to be coached by somebody like him and learn
off him and um with where our group's at and what we're looking for he's the perfect fit
you know he's not going to need to come in and find who he is as a coach or find himself as a
you know in those situations he knows he knows uh what he's about as a coach and and um it's
our job as players to uh to be ready to go connor once you got your question i thought that was
fascinating he's not gonna have to come in and find himself as a coach that's a that's a that
says a lot there's a few like woodcroft and knoblock had yeah right the you know he doesn't
need to be he doesn't need to be taking shots at former coaches in order for the shoe to fit
you know i don't know is that even really taking shots or is that well that's what i'm saying i
think yeah i think connor's saying i think connor's acknowledging where he's at in his career in terms
of age this is the time right now yep and we we don't have time for you to find yourself you'll
likely never be better you're the best player in the league and you're the best version of the best
player in the league you know he's and i mean the oilers are they definitely took a step back last
year but this the situation they're in is salvageable big time no question and like by
salvageable i mean like none of us would have been shocked if they went to the cup final for a third
straight year and it might be three out of four i think their biggest hindrance is their general
manager i think i think he's the one that's setting them back the tristan jari trade is a disaster
and i think they've got a coach and play around that now i can't believe that it's an anchor
yeah what's that i can't believe they haven't remedied it i don't think they can steve what
are they going to do i don't know two more years can't and if things don't get better he's in
bakersfield like jack jack campbell before him you know that's that's the thing that's the boat
anger part of this is you go to you look at the teams that made the finals vegas really doesn't
have a bad contract um carolinas for sure doesn't have a bad contract no florida doesn't have a bad
contract name a bad florida contract they have something that might end up bad but they're not
bad right now and every year the oilers went to the finals we're like man imagine they still had
room for roberg holloway uh who else warren fogel left i think mcleod mcleod like that
key depth pieces you know that's i don't even know i can a coach especially mike babcock who's so
hard on goalies tristan jari who's like the super laid-back dude and then mike babcock who is not
how's that gonna go oh he'll be gone he'll be he's not playing for them no right no unless he
gets unless he turns it on again listen the one thing we know about babs which by the way is
seven-year-old information right like he hasn't coached an nhl game since before covet nick
patan yeah yeah mark andre flurry on the vegas golden knights was his last game yeah yeah yeah
a long time ago but the information that we have from then is he's not gonna do this uh platoon
crap and he's not gonna do this well we're playing a back-to-back so uh i think i'm gonna give this
guy a night uh no his best players are his best players well that's who's playing unless you're
hurt with goalies he will play his shitty goalie on the second half of back-to-back no matter who
you're playing yes that's mike yes that like that's mike it's gonna be like he's gonna have
to adjust to late 30s frederick anderson like what do you mean i can't just play you 60 games
you know what i mean like they don't have a goalie they can do that with no but right he
trusts freddie clearly as he should they had some good times together in toronto okay it's a long
season a so like how do you get through that it's difficult there's still some questions there
there's a reason like the oilers just have punched above their weight in terms of coverage since
mcdavid was drafted i mean it just makes them they're so compelling every year through feast
or famine they're always compelling um i'm fascinated by them they're they're one of my
must watch teams of the year and every year jesse do you have leon dry sidles chat too i know i
don't have the video on dry sidle but i do wonder i don't think that mike babcock can out coach
stan bowman's issues with running a team like i think you're you're bang on with that and it's
like okay this might be the greatest coach ever and the perfect coach for these people but if
stan bowman puts together a bad roster i don't think the he can overcome that with coaching
like you're so they're they're throuple that they're going with is levi jari and anderson
there's still a lot of questions so that anderson is an injury risk but he's good when he's in
levi is uh we don't know we think we don't know we know that there's untapped potential there
jari he could be really good or really bad but 70 of the time he's really bad we keep talking
about teams carrying three goalies yep like on purpose like the Oilers could be justified in
doing it sure because again um you're just going to have one defenseman and one forward who are
hostages they unless someone is hurt they are not playing they're not playing you don't need to
you don't need to carry two defensemen or two spare defensemen or two spare forwards one of each
and you have your three goalies they could be justified in doing that they have a defensive
core now bouchard wallman conor murphy ekholm shea ty emberson's in there mukamadoulin's in
there stastny is in there i mean decor is pretty interesting actually pretty good pretty good
they'll miss nurse in some respects but i think it'll be good to have a team that looks different
jesse are you comfortable with the players that are in front of one of those three goalies
no i don't think i don't really love the depth that they have like i trust that coleman bouchard
i'll be fine with that muka medulin still like i'm not sure what that's gonna be um shay okay
we'll see that's probably your sixth defenseman i just i'm just so unsure about the bottom of the
lineup that um stan bowman's trying to build like trent frederick on the just been a complete
failure with that eight-year deal and we'll see we'll see just what's around mcdavid and dry
sidle and and bouchard like you have those guys we know they're going to show up and the things
that they do in their game that are just complete positives on the ice like bouchard's an amazing
player can be in the conversation for the norris but you don't trust him at times but mcdavid and
dry cell are going to show up it's just everybody else in the lineup um i guess you throw nuge and
hyman into that positive box but i don't know about the rest of the pieces around there just
it's got to gel then maybe mike babcock can get something out of them but when it comes to the end
of the playoffs and those last couple rounds when everybody's competing i look at a team like
florida i just trust that better and for them if their bar is a stanley cup and i just like the
rosters on other teams better and you're not amongst i don't know the top five teams that i
want in a third fourth round game seven then i think that's still a problem if you've got
if you have no tristan jari on this roster because remember stewart skinner's contract was expiring
5.375 million dollars you also are carrying a buyout of jack campbell at 2.6 million dollars
so that's roughly 8 million and they have five or they have 4.7 million in cap space they could
have like 12 million bucks is goaltending impossible i i think the guys that they've
hired unfortunately ken that's a ken holland thing with with jack campbell jari was i mean
when the jari trade was made everybody was like oh i don't think so i don't know why you're doing
this we flagged it in the moment we're like this is either going to make you or break you and it
is pretty thoroughly broken them so far so here's what changes this though uh i don't know if you
guys have seen this but uh um connor hellebuck's name and likeness apparently have disappeared from
a lot of jets marketing which has a lot of people believing he could still be on the move
if you are able to somehow and i don't know how you do it pull off a connor hellebuck to edmonton
move right i don't know whether they have the assets like i don't i don't know what that looks
like one and that is a whole different thing at that point he also dictates where he goes
but apparently his trade list is huge like he'll go to a lot of teams it's like they've got to be
competitive though they're not moving that way like unless they get rid of levi who they just
traded for what do you care which i guess i guess you could and then you have like hellebuck freddy
i just don't think that's the way the wind is blowing i just don't see them having 8.5 million
dollars to move out to get hellebuck well they've got five available can you move uh can you move
some money off can it be one of the you know can it be an emerson or uh spencer stastny or something
like that to to sort of make it how did you pull off the nurse trade and we're still talking about
moving money off well because they have a lot of bad contracts yeah that's why that's why we you
know that's the premise of this break is like it did mike babcock whether he's a great coach or
he's not whether he's a great person or he's not uh doesn't really make up for here's a shitty
contract i think this would also shatter jets fans that he went to edmonton yes yeah i don't know
if the hatred is as strong with the new generation as it was but like people that are older than us
oh jets jets oilers in the 80s elder millennials and and gen x they should have won a cup that
team in the 80s death by popcorn yeah man like the dale howard chuck jets just you talk about
the frustration of you know leafs keep running into cup finalists cup finalists cup finalist
gretzky gretzky gretzky gretzky just every freaking year like the raptors with lebron
he kept running into him lebron lebron like dude for it could have been the second best team
of its generation or of a half-decade span
and no cup final to even show for it.
Or conference final, I think.
Oh, you know what?
I'm going to cheer for Conor, though, to win one.
No, you're not.
That's horrible.
The other side of it is, you know,
Babs does a really good job of letting his stars be stars.
Like, you can see that in Detroit.
You can see that in Toronto.
Like, Austin had 40 goals on the third line.
People forget that.
He was the third line center.
Oh, yeah.
You know, Nick Lidstrom won Norris trophies.
They won a cup.
Wasn't Tavares' 47 goal year under Babs?
That was Babs, absolutely.
I mean, this is a...
If he creates a system that allows those guys
to just be themselves,
because it's really...
The criticism of Oilers coaching in the last few years is
you got to have Conor and Leon on the same line,
and if you don't, they have to do everything.
I don't think that's this team anymore.
there's a lot better pieces here than there was is it enough like at the end of the day someone
has to step up you need every single stanley cup team has a performance where you're like
where did that come from or or like it's a good player but they play great i think a cap and pod
coles and dry sidle line looked pretty good and they didn't win they didn't win but they're
if you're asking for candidates in the summer yeah i would point to those guys that's fair
that's definitely valid like who is your like what's what's going to be the we weren't exactly
going all right stankhoven hall and blake are gonna carry it for the hurricanes you know what
i mean oh you know what if only we could get five goals out of jordan stall in the Stanley Cup final
you know what i mean yeah um at the end of the day they're gonna need that because
mcdavid's already broken records for you he's already won a con smith uh dry sidle
has already given you a heroic performance through injury um i'm listen again it's been
seven years i'm fascinated by like does frent tread does uh trent frederick frent frederick
frederick way better uh we need vacation a two more shows here we go um does trent frederick
get the early matt martin treatment where you're the prize pony or does he get like
babcock people forget babcock talked about martin keeping the flies off and then one day
stop playing them on a dime he might have played three more games out of like 30 it was crazy and
And I've met Matt Martin, great guy.
We were all rooting for that.
We were.
He didn't fit.
But we were, it was, even as someone who was rooting for that,
it was shocking how abruptly it happened.
What I can respect about it is that unlike a lot of people in the NHL,
Babs makes a decision and goes with it.
He doesn't waffle.
There's no, it's black and white with him, right?
No.
If you're a healthy scratch on day one, just request your trade now.
he's not making his mind back up right show up to camp in shape yeah yeah like i i look at colton
doc like on that roster i'm like that's an interesting player or we never see him again
i cowered i cowered i could be an interesting maybe 20 goals maybe never heard of with
bakersfield i don't know i don't know he is going to pick his grocery stick okay and i don't know
who that's gonna be well it's uh the the the oh listen if this works with babcock hyman dry sidle
mcdavid look like geniuses because they're the ones that really spearheaded this if it doesn't
work it will be the dissolution of this era of the oilers and i think it would require a conor
mcdavid uh you're a wasted uh video from steve nagle uh now does it does it uh affect you in
any way to know that the edmonton oilers last season had one more point in the standings than
the detroit red wings wowzers edmonton finished with 93 points and detroit finished with 92
i think they'll have more this year they got to be 100 point team they're 100 point team
yuck they gotta be vegas how many more points did vegas have than edmonton that oh vegas had
like 95 like okay so three more than detroit but ending the season seven oh and one i think yeah
yeah yeah seven oh and three yeah 95 points whoa man for vegas oh my god the ducks had less than
detroit hey can you take our box down please yeah look at that ducks had less than right the ducks
were 18th place the kings the kings were 20th place ah wow friggin division dude crazy crazy
um right up the ducks finished the year two six and two and there were eight no in the uh in the
shootouts but a couple of shootouts go different ways ducks are in the playoff second second round
of the playoffs though boys oh yeah they know they showed they're actually a good team by the
time the playoffs rolled around i have concerns about them going we'll save it for the season
but i'm concerned washington finished 12th in the nhl and didn't make it yeah they were robbed
wow and it finished 80 and two or a two and oh excuse me holy shit wow they're robbed robbed
oh my and didn't really finish close actually they finished three points out but we're 12th
the leafs have a lot of work to do hey yeah a little bit eh a little like the front office
can only do so much you're asking for us look at the they lost 22 points in the season i know
they sold yeah they they did you gotta try breakfast

at pmcfwalk.ca um just announced during the show jesse thank you for sending this over to me
prime video and rogers communications today announced a 12 year agreement wow for prime
video in canada that's amazon uh to exclusively broadcast wednesday night regular season national
hockey league games in english and en france oh i did that for julian en france uh beginning in
the 26 27 season which is the one we're heading into yes prime video also acquires exclusive
rights to select stanley cup playoff series in canada really comprised of two first round
playoff series and one second round series per year this full lineup includes 26 national nhl
games beginning wednesday september 30th uh available on prime video in canada no additional
cost to prime members so if you have amazon already you can watch it that is very very big
which is cool as hell because um rogers which we're going to get into next just exploded with
their uh their uh uh subscription costs again this year so we'll talk about that we didn't get to
talk about it last episode uh i don't need to read i don't think i need to read the the quotes
from these guys uh but nhl on prime will continue to deliver world-class production and innovation
with the on-air team that delivers in-depth analysis and play-by-play and when we were
there a couple of years ago and they've we've been lucky enough for that to have them feature
feature us two years in a row but when we're actually in the studios they are actually
pushing the boundaries where we've been critical of sports net and a little bit of tsn of not
uh the actual on ice um product is better uh i think in term in canada i think it's the best
one we have um the tv bug is very real yeah did you not oh it's awesome it was fun came down with
the sniffles to chew oh a little bit man i loved tv when i did it the problem was the time of the
morning i had to do tv yeah um that was that was very fun though that experience it was and and
you know i think for rogers uh this is a huge win because they just wanted to control it
Right. And now they want to just make money off of it. And there have been rumors, guys, about TSN potentially getting Mondays and them getting back into the national ballgame, because I think Rogers having that many national nights, which is too many nights, just too many nights.
people want to change they it's too difficult to watch hockey well it's also do we want to watch
and and and this is not a hate on for any of the personalities do we want to watch the same
personalities every night or do you like the difference of hey tsn brings this and amazon
brings this and sportsnet brings this yeah the variety is fantastic when it's not just the same
sportsnet broadcast that's going out every single time like it's good for it's good for consumers i
don't the streaming thing will bother me till the end because cable is still the best way to watch
television and live sports i should say like it's just so much better in every respect so
it's a little frustrating that's going to be on prime to watch like playoff games and all that
stuff but in terms of variety of people who get to broadcast the games i think that's very good
well and they're not going to get good series they're going to get like hey it's anaheim st
louis every series is good i know but they're not going to get like marquee canadian series
is my point right there they're all good well what if enough of them make it well then that
would be great you know it's listen i don't know but it's possible you're putting a lot of stake
in a calgary and winnipeg and toronto what if like four of them make it well sports net could get
them all then there's eight series in the first round seven make it the thing that shocked me
about this is the 12th number that is a ridiculous amount of time to commit to a broadcast agreement
because usually we're seeing you lately we've been seeing these sports league go short-termer
so you can re-up the money
because each time the sports rights
gets more and more valuable
because it's the only thing people care about
watching live these days.
So I'm surprised that Rodgers goes
for the 12-year deal with Amazon.
But this just seems to be what Rodgers does
with their NHL rights.
It's like, how long can we lock down this thing?
We want it forever at this number,
and that's it.
And that's what the NHL wanted, too.
It's why Gary did a 12-year deal
when he shouldn't have.
Look what's happening.
I don't know.
Nobody's probably paying attention to this,
but the NFL basically just signed
a bunch of contracts with like CBS and NBC and ESPN a few years ago for whatever. And they have
an out clause in all of those contracts that's up at like year three and they're going or year five
or whatever it is. And they're already saying to them, yeah, we're triggering that. So get ready
to spend more money because you're all about to. And the NHL wanted to lock in the 12 year deal in
Canada because they know that they're going to be left with the scraps in the United States and
that their tv deal may not be as favorable because so much money is going to the nfl first and then
the nba will have to do their deal and then everybody else wasn't there just a youtube
premium espn thing in the states i don't know oh there probably was but um if you have youtube
premium you can watch certain espn yes probably just another delivery system though it's not
youtube having the rights to it although they are jumping into the sports rights game right and um
I think, Jesse, my question for you, because you watch a lot of the NFL on Prime, right?
Or you watch the Thursday nighters?
No, because up here, we get it on TSN as well.
Oh, okay.
Did you watch the NBA on Netflix then?
NBA was on Prime.
It was on Prime?
Yeah.
Who was on Netflix on Christmas Day?
That's the NFL.
That was it.
But we also, because the TSN owns the NFL rights, that they're also on, up here, they're
also on TV.
Right.
See the Netflix games on regular TV.
Okay.
Okay. I was curious about what the feedback has been for, because the Amazon numbers are
going up in the States. They were shit the first year. They also got terrible games.
But the Amazon numbers are slowly climbing there. What's been the feedback from the average sports
fan? Because you mentioned cable being the best way to watch. Why do you say that?
No, no. The feedback from streaming, yeah, definitely speak about that. Because
now if you go away from cable and you use the apps to watch all the games, whether it's Sportsnet
app or the tsn app or the prime app or wherever you watch or even uh apple tv when they have the
blue jays games on friday every now and again it's it's a difficult watch in terms of if you're a
sports fan you want to change the channel it's it's an impossible thing to do just switch back
and forth um it's never it's never an easy watch and i know the a lot of people don't care about
this stuff but i know the the streaming quality is not going to be up to cable quality in terms
of the 4k you can get uh through your well certainly not with sports net no your xfinity
box versus the sports net app will never be the same until there's some other revolution with the
way they they broadcast it to you because you're not getting that over over your wi-fi connection
and that's always going to be frustrating um so there's there's a whole bunch of little things
with the just the simple mechanics of watching tv where it's just so simple on a cable box where you
turn it on get the highest quality games on where you know it there's no lag there's no anything no
problems and streaming just hasn't caught up to that yet okay and the variety of the different
apps that you need to will become frustrating i know for fans eventually nfl fans i think have
reached that point we don't experience that here like i said tsn has the majority of nfl games you
want you have to zone you can get everything there but eventually if it is more fragmented
We could hear the complaints that NFL fans in the States feel where to watch every game there, you would need YouTube TV, all of the over-the-air networks, so the regular NBC, ABC, and all that, ESPN, and Netflix.
And did I say Prime?
And Prime in there.
So you would need five different subscriptions.
They say it's $400.
For like 17 games?
Yeah, for 17 games.
I don't know what the cost is.
It's a lot.
I know that.
It's a lot.
It's up there.
But yeah, that's a lot of expenses.
Did you say YouTube in that, too?
Yeah, YouTube, because they got a game, too.
So it's just that's frustrating where it's like, what is this on today?
You know, like, where am I finding this game?
You know, so that's that's going to be that's going to be hell for a lot of consumers eventually.
And the best thing to do is one day they'll bundle all this together and they'll call it Cable 2.
You know, like we're just going to get back to Cable.
Too expensive.
because they're they're starting to do it now where through prime you can get like the other
apps yeah so like through like you know i was just talking about with youtube and espn yeah
so like on youtube you can get like your espn subscription which is just like bundling there's
like okay youtube's the cable provider and then you get the channels and on a fire stick you can
get you can get all the apps we're working our way to a worse quality cable yes it's it's it's all
it's all very fresh um right now streaming prices in canada for each thing okay so da zone which
gives you all the nfl and along now do they run the tsn feed because i just have tsn uh well all
of the the nfl networks they broadcast like the the broadcast the american broadcast okay tsn is
producing their own game they are oh yeah okay they're not producing their own game so t i'm
just wondering about the commercials though that's because tsn does insert their own commercial right
DAZN would be inserting their own commercial.
Oh, okay.
So DAZN is $250 a year,
but you used to get EPL with that.
You don't anymore,
but you get all the NFL coverage you want.
And they used to get Red Zone too.
I don't know if you get that anymore.
TSN Plus is at the lowest end, $80,
but that is being very favorable.
The TSN subscription price
is actually much higher than that
if you go for the max plan,
which a lot of...
Like if you're watching this podcast,
you're a hardcore sports fan.
the 80 tsn package is probably not going to be enough for you uh fubo where you can get an epl
is 294 and that's an absolute must if you watch any soccer right because i think the only i think
the only soccer you can get outside of that is like bundesliga on tsn or sportsnet one of them
has it um and then prime is 99 and it's been 99 for you know 20 years or whatever and sportsnet
just up theirs to $350 over the last three years sports nets sports net pluses subscription package
has roughly doubled and you know what i want people to be aware of and just on your tsn number
tsn is 249 for like the regular subscription where you get the tsn channels 80 is to add on
tsn plus where you get like red zone right like all of their dock back catalog so it's
actually 250 to get the tsn channel okay yeah so that so it's 250 plus 80 or is it just 250 yeah
because you need the 249 and then you need to add the 80 to get the tsn plus so tsn and sportsnet
are the same they're about 350 yeah yeah and so sportsnet actually funnily enough for uh uh was
kind of a deal if you compare it to tsn which is awful to do sportsnet being 350 i just want
everybody to know this. This is just the beginning. I hope you're aware. They are graduating us. I
just told you it doubled in three years. And that's because they were graduating. They raised
it last year on the last year of their NHL deal, knowing that the new one kicks in this year and
it's going to be extremely expensive. They doubled the price of it. And so if you think $350 is where
it's at that's not where it's going to stay like this is only the beginning of of a of chances are
a couple years from now you can throw this in my face if i'm wrong my bet is this is 500 to 550
a year and and that will be that will only be for a couple of years um this is going to be very very
expensive and you know there are a lot of people especially in vancouver and i get it and calgary
too um where it's like hey you just shut down all of our local sports uh and now you want us to pay
that much, screw you. I'm just going to steal it. And I do, I wonder what the inflection point with
that is where, you know, where does this growth stop for a company like Sportsnet? Like we keep
saying it for us, it's a business write-off. We can justify it. If I run a carpentry company and
I'm pretty successful and I can afford it, right? I'm making six figures a year. How can I justify
350 for essentially one sport and the blue jays who are terrible this year i have to choose between
uh watching hockey or putting my kid in it you know i mean yeah and like watching it costs about
as much now hockey is it's hockey is unreasonably expensive to play uh-huh and it's almost as
expensive to watch now that's a yeah unless you're a goalie unless you're a goalie in which case
but i mean think about it sports net and i don't know what you do if you want your local games in
the east right in the west you have sports net you're good yeah in the east if i if i'm an ottawa
senators fan and i want to watch the ottawa national games i got to buy sports net plus
and i got to buy tsn because i got to get my local tsn games so what exactly is the package
again so 350 for sports net plus which is everything and you should no no sorry the
what was announced today uh well that's the amazon one that was announced today
wednesday sports net yeah wednesdays was amazon they're the exclusive national broadcaster on
wednesdays 26 uh at least 26 regular season games and the two first and two first round
playoff series and that is one second round play and that is why the leafs are rarely playing on
wednesday this year so yeah i was gonna bring that up that's why i was on my phone uh i didn't
have a chance to go through every team the leafs only play nine wednesday games this year that's
on purpose but even the oilers only play 10 and the habs only play 10 yeah sportsnet was trying
to i assume they worked with the nhl to try and get the games they won off of that night so that
amazon wouldn't have like a bunch of leafs games it used to be the leafs play every wednesday
yes because that was wednesday night hockey for sportsnet now it's changing that's right
they did that on purpose yeah okay of course how many times at least play on mondays do we know uh
i can look i i did because if tsn gets that that that slot which they've there have been rumors
about i don't know how true that is but i i do i believe that they were in do they play a lot of
mondays yeah okay adam can i ask you to uh play a little game here sure i'm gonna i'm gonna put
you into a scenario okay act out what you would do all right so adam and steve can be
their assistant to the adam role here okay you are head of sports net programming for hockey
you get to reach you up oh no you have to pay money oh no all right we know that sports net
has decided to not sub-license
Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday
to CBC anymore. Hockey Night in Canada
is going to remain as a brand with CBC.
They owned it, so they're not going to give it
back to Sportsnet for any sort of price.
And Sportsnet is going to create their own thing for Saturday.
Adam,
you are tasked with creating the new
Saturday night hockey
broadcast for Sportsnet.
What things would you do to that broadcast?
Roger, Sportsnet Saturday
night is what it's going to be called.
No, not what you think.
what would you do what would i do yeah um well first up i think for anybody wondering hockey
night in canada i think we'll be pwhl now uh but um that's a good question
so now that you've pulled yourself off the cbc you got to remember if you're an american watching
this you're probably like i don't like we don't really you don't have a comparable thing but
brits do it's bbc um and you guys have some public broadcasting and it it does have a place but it's
not anywhere clear like close to what cbc plays here because we don't have the population that
the americans do per capita right we have a lot of land in this country that's just land and there's
really not a lot of people there so you needed the cbc to get this into every household ron mclean's
thing going back 30 years has been we're on the cbc we have to play to all canadians and that was
a really smart move especially in the 80s and 90s um now that it is on its own specialty channel
a la like hockey being on nbc or nascar being on nbc or whatever now that it's on its own thing
and or the you know the nfl being on um instead of abc and cbs it's going to be on espn or whatever
to me you got to make this um you got to make this canadian but you got to make it canadian
in the not everything has to have a tragically hip soundtrack to it
right you've got to have and no disrespect to the tragically hip who i love but i think it's
fair to say that that angle's been played i have a bit i have a tiny bit of insight there give it
give it to me so um not not just the tragically hip i just use them because they're the most
famous canadian it was the tragically hip april wine the trues like what it was like four or five
bands yeah i have a buddy who is in like a band i think with a label and like they tour and stuff
and he's like how do i get on and i was like well i know the guy to talk to let me ask
and i put them in touch and they went back and forth and they started using their band and cool
that's great so i think people need to start reaching out yeah and being like put my damn
band on well through the record label just ask no through steve dangle damn it there you go
now you put yourself i hooked it up and here's how teeny tiny canada is it was a buddy of mine
from uh university and i put him in touch with a co-worker of mine who was a buddy of mine from
high school hilarious amazing yes who was also our student council president oh okay yes i know
exactly who you're talking yes exactly um and a very cool person very cool person but yeah
generally they're like there are four bands yeah and uh so i think i think what sports net needs
to do is the thing that we've been begging them to do for a while and that's let's it's saturday
night let's set off the fireworks you know where are the cannons shoot them uh we it's it's fucking
hockey time i remember when we came back during covid uh and we finally got hockey again and it
was an exhibition game and how does hockey how do they start it in the most ron mclean way possible
which is a 20 minute dedication to the nurses and doctors of the world and i while i appreciate that
that can't be the intro the intro is we're back and then hey by the way an intermission i think
it's really important that we shout out the people that got us back which are the people on the front
lines but so it's not that you don't acknowledge you got to shift how you do it when you watch an
nfl broadcast when you watch an nba broadcast local or otherwise or national especially national
which sportsnet normally is you got to have holy fucking shit i've been waiting all week for this
i'm exhausted and i want to sit on my couch and i want to watch my favorite team play hockey and i
want to see some fights and i want to see some intermission banter and i want to see some crazy
shit happen because this is what i'm going to be talking about and thinking about all next week
that's the kind of broadcast it needs to be the graphics package needs to be good we need to have
a studio that doesn't look like a tomb uh or that where where that the camera zooming in is on the
back of two hosts heads that is an outrageous camera that's always bothered me it's terrible
I know what they're trying to do, but you semicircle that.
And you can have, like, you see First Take do it all the time.
First Take's got enough studio where they can actually track around,
whereas Hockey Night in Canada is like,
here's two people that you're, I hope the back of their head looks good today.
The studio.
And I know where the studio is.
It's on, like, the base floor of Triple Three.
It's a fraction of its old size.
Well, and that's fine.
Our studio is the size of a bedroom.
No, I know.
and when people come in here they're like wow it's really small in here yeah it is you can do a lot
with a little but they make it look small they shoot it small and that's not because uh the
people on the floor aren't talented it's because sports net hasn't cared they don't care so if i'm
the head of hockey programming i'm like all right we need to make this like i i want to i want a
huge intro with a big canadian song or a theme song a la hockey night in canada the original one
and I want to have, here's Ron McClain.
Here's Kevin BXR.
Like, I want to see their faces.
I want to build stars.
Like in WWE?
Absolutely.
He comes out with Jake Paul and he slaps him.
Absolutely.
Freed comes through the smoke like Oba Femi.
Kelly Rudy is like the Kool-Aid jug that just smashes.
Oh, yeah.
It's Kelly time.
Like, give me that.
Give me the excitement.
And he has to wear the bandana that he wore as the goalie.
Yes.
Yeah.
and i think that's it and like that's give me let's get get my motor running a little bit so
i can get amped up because it's hockey right i know i'm in the minority here but the the bagpipe
intro that that they had yeah that made me feel something no i freaking love that call chad kruger
and say we need burn it down that's our new theme song right every saturday night it's burn it down
Nickelback.
I'm into it.
Like, that's it.
Right there.
Easy.
And it's not, so you don't even need to change.
I know all those guys are apparently out of contract,
and so they're renegotiating right now.
Nickelback?
No.
All the Hockey Night people.
But I think, Jesse, to answer your question in an extraordinarily long way,
give me some excitement.
Get my blood pumping.
Yes, still do the tributes.
Yes, still shout out the small towns around the country that are watching.
In fact, you know what I would do?
Instead of sending an enormously expensive production on the road, which is what they tried to do, have Rogers Sportsnet Saturday Night Hockey watch parties, which are super easy to do.
Hey, here's a bar.
We'll send a camera, and we'll give away some free shit.
And, hey, we're in Campbell River today.
We're in Brandon today.
You can do them in theaters.
We're in Nepean today.
Hockey Night in Crab of Hockeyville is what you're inventing.
But you could just do that every Saturday night
as a promo for Crapped Hockeyville.
And just say, hey, they're watching.
Who's the majority of people cheering for?
Oh, well, it looks like it's the Flames fans here tonight
or it's the Oilers fans in enemy territory, whatever.
Start to build that.
This has to be the name of the game should be,
holy shit, this is exciting.
That should be the only brand.
And you do have to take back editorial control of that thing.
Now that it is not Hockey Night in Canada anymore,
and i think whoever has been running it for that long whoever has that control
their input still matters but it is a dated broadcast there's just no way around it like i
anybody that watches any other sport other than hockey knows like when i watch formula one there
is a theme song and it's like and they have all the drivers coming out and they're doing their
poses and it's like here's the track here's how many kilometers get a load of this shit
can you do the george russell oh the george russell where he does the he does he has this
thing where he crosses his legs and has his arms out and everybody's been making fun of him for it
so he keeps doing it it's very funny that's like formula one is a saturday morning and a sunday
morning production for north americans and they're able to go hey fucking watch uh and and hockey is
like saturday night that's party time and they're like hey everybody we're here i guess we're gonna
watch some hockey yeah well okay what nash and never run the national anthem again never again
take take that lesson from tsn who and prime who has taken out the anthem has primed on it too
yeah prime doesn't do the national anthem i don't remember but uh tsn's done a great job just not
showing the anthem it's been fantastic we're gonna throw to kyle bukaskis who's so excitable
it's such a fun personality and it's like we're giving it to kyle bukaskis kyle does a little
thing before the he's like and now i headed off to the anthem we're like oh fuck they can do more
kyle like if the new broadcast had more kyle because he's always so funny in that like he's
the one who will like get charles barkley on the broadcast and like be hilarious with that and go
viral i would like more kyle give me more input give me more kyle he deserves more time you're
right like especially sean mckenzie yeah we're at it absolutely a lot of the markets it's like
the same anthem singer yeah it's not compelling television now i understand let's let's just be
straight about this let's say that there's a a national incident that requires or that it's going
to be a particularly patriotic night which happens then run the anthem because then it's compelling
television but we're in the business of we're not in the business of tradition we're in the business
of getting people as much as we can to watch that particular night you cannot tell me under any
circumstance that playing the national anthem gets people to watch the game and and you know i got it
on Hockey Night in Canada
because it's the Canada broadcast
on the CBC Sportsnet production,
blah, blah, blah.
Enough.
Enough.
Do we watch?
Do we watch the anthem
at Blue Jays games?
No, we don't watch
the anthem at Blue Jays game.
Do we watch the first pitch
unless it's really stupid?
Unless the first pitch
is like 50 cent
throwing it into the first row.
Nobody sees the first pitch.
You see the replay of it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, it's not compelling.
Why do we do it in hockey?
Because we don't have new ideas.
Adam, you have new ideas.
we have people with new ideas who are not allowed sorry the people who make decisions don't have any
new ideas would you make montreal's intros to start the season longer yes you know what i would
do steve jesse if you get the sports net plus package you have the opportunity to either watch
the panel show or watch an alt feed of the montreal intro show that makes you could serve both masters
on that one and i if i never have to see another long montreal thing to start the season i'll be
thrilled and happy under uh the length of lord of the rings oh all three i mean listen montreal
montreal has never been told no so i think they can go as long as they want peter they'll probably
bring peter jackson in to actually direct it they have to they they have to stay in the studio as
long as the montreal intro is going and bx is just like all right now our new segment just naming
random habs i'll go first robert lang well filibuster oh yeah they need to trust they
they also need to trust their palette freeman goes uh he's big he's bald he's alex old oh good one
good one good one good one good one they need to they also need to trust their panels more
sportsnet has you know tsn has a little bit of disagreement and obviously when you have
a guy like bx on sportsnet or like say jeff o'neill on tsn they can be a bit of a wild card
which is fun, TSN leans
into Jeff O'Neill. They're like, hey, Jeff,
what crazy shit do you have to say today?
TNT goes, hey, Charles
Barkley, tell me about the dirty water
in Galveston. He was
so funny the other day, even.
He's the best. Charles, how do you feel?
I'm pissed off. I was golfing and you brought me in
to talk about LeBron James.
Yeah.
We need your expertise. Yeah, I'm mad. I was
golfing. Those kinds
of characters lean into those.
The reason sometimes Sportsnet seems so stiff is because they're so afraid of making a mistake.
Stop being afraid to make a mistake.
Panel shows are a mess.
Our show is a long panel show.
That's what we are.
And it's a mess.
And it's fun.
That's what it should be.
Let it be a mess.
Let it breathe.
Let somebody make a mistake and then come back from commercial and go, wow, that was pretty bad.
Anyway, let me correct myself on that.
A controlled mess.
Yes.
So because if you remember the first year of the hockey night deal, they just had too much shit. Remember the puck wall? They abandoned that shit. So that is the reason they have those gimmicks in is because they don't trust the panelists to talk.
yeah that's when you see a gimmick remember when they had the the hockey the hockey stick thing
where they they actually had the ice and they projected the goal line on the thing and they
had somebody there whatever the reason you have gimmicks in an intermission is because you do not
trust the people that are broadcasting and you need to trust them and if you can't trust them
then you got to find people you can trust and i think they've got the talent in there that they
can trust them look at us how many gimmicks do we have in our show i don't know do we have any
wheels that we spin any gongs no we just fucking talk i did very literally use a gong in lfr okay
but that is that is that's the way that's why does adam hate bo's light year uh yeah
that is illustrative why do you hate that you hate this why do you hate that um oh wait no that
was muz light but you but you said that was different because i still had the gloves i still
had the gloves but then they got jake muzzin and he did muz light year but what was the puck wall
for what what purpose did it serve it was for nerfing pj stock uh honestly so what did it
explain to people that never saw or do not remember the puck wall what happened i worked there i do
not know like dude they that's what i'm talking about what the hell was the puck wall it's filler
he doesn't know so it used to be like you would take a puck that had like the preds logo on it
and then you would put it in a machine and like something would come up about pred stats i think
that's kind of cool okay or if you've ever worked behind the scenes it sounds cool in practice or in
in theory something that's at like the hockey hall of fame is this what it was for people that you
let little kids play with yeah but dude the the best show that i never got to see was darren pang
and pj stock just fucking around like i was i was there once and i think it was i think the panel
it was doug mclean pj stock darren pang and then there must have been someone else but um
those two are hyper children they're ridiculous people behind the scenes and they were so fun
to watch interact and then they get on tv and it's you know stuffy stuffiness dude let him go
don't make him fiddle around with some weird puck thing you need somebody who's able to bring that
on the air like bx it can like dina dina poliezzi at breakfast television could always do that she
was extremely goofy off the air very funny she scared me one and then the camera turns on and
she's just as goofy yes and that's what make that was the magic of that show she comes in at six in
the morning and hey everybody i was like jesus that the hopped up off coffee i was terrified
the i think the other thing is the um uh like you said i asked you what the puck wall what did it
serve so if you look at all the goofy shit we've spent money on steve no no i'm actually asking you
to drill down on this so the nashville predator puck goes on the puck wall yeah then what i think
stats come up i adam i don't remember that so that's it wasn't memorable but that's my point
well but that's my what i'm saying well you had the bows light year or the macarthur sword yes
or everything else that you had with the kyle dubas glasses it was a skit it had something
that furthered the point of the video that was also comic relief right oftentimes they were
pretty bad years um and and as the leafs got good the gimmicks got less because you needed to talk
about the game because the game actually mattered right and so what i what i think with all that
shit that they threw at the wall was yes there was going to be an attrition and this was going
to be shit and this was going to be good none of it lasted that was the problem none of the gimmicks
were good and then you are left with the panel show that changed so many times over the course
of the years because they kept firing people and and then when you did have somebody great you know
you know who pissed people off but was always great nick kiprios he infuriated people my uncle
and he called me a loser my uncle's like i'm gonna fight him you guys i was like you probably
shouldn't don nick kiprios should be on that broadcast 10 times out of 10 absolutely um he
should be on the panel when they when he does him and born are so good they are why don't they just
put so they got a host for leaf game why not have kipper born and sam they do do that no they don't
put Sam on it. They put Fridge on it. Fridge
doesn't need to be on that broadcast. Fridge could be
a part of that broadcast. He can Zoom from home.
Hey, here's some insider stuff. This is really interesting.
But does Fridge need to do that? I don't hate
that idea in the slightest. Let him go and have fun.
I don't hate that idea in the slightest. This is easy.
You guys have the talent.
They're almost there. It was usually
like Sundays or something. The regional Leafs
ones are usually Kipper and Bourne,
which are always good. They're great together.
They're great. So anyway, that's what I would do.
I would amp up the fucking excitement.
It's like a two right now. Like a

register today at pmcfwalk.ca so i got a couple other things that we got to hit a couple other
things we got to hit uh uh neil glasberg did a well actually let's do three ice for a quick thing
three ice which uh premiered on our channel and a bunch of other channels uh this weekend we had
about 10 000 people tune in which is pretty flippant amazing for something that we were like
we just promoted it like one show last week for anybody that doesn't know it is the
three-on-three hockey
that is going to run
every single summer
and have been running.
It's real.
It's a real three-on-three league
that exists and is real.
Sorry about the last one.
This one's real.
Because it's on our channel
right now.
It's on our channel right now
and there is hockey being played.
It's not in theory.
It's real.
There is an interview
with Ken Danigo
you should check out
from our last episode
which is the only notable thing
from our last episode.
Yes, it is, Adam.
It's the only thing
you talked about
was three ice and the devils he was i love talking to ken danico oh absolute gem yeah great for the
game great person when fantastic when will three ice episodes drop this summer jesse because
obviously we had it friday night last week will it be friday every single i believe so yeah i think
that's that's the uh schedule we'll have to ask three ice oh okay that will take us through the
through the summer though so you know as much as like this is our second last show of this
particular season three ice and sdp vip will continue to release along with nailing the apex
and nfl training camps have already started so drew and stewart back uh so there's there's stuff
carrying us through um very excited for the race we'll talk a little bit more on thursday neil
glasberg uh who helped select john shika as general manager did a an interview with carlo
on tsn's first up uh and he said we ended we had exhausted the universe of candidates as you can
imagine very high profile job lots of interest i was amazed actually by the number of leaf alumni
that reached out and said they wanted to be a part of the process i really had a genuine and
really cool sorry it was really genuine and a really cool thing that guys bleed leaf blood
uh really wanted to add value the unfortunate thing is we have lots of people and one job
and he said north of 25 people john chica said they talked to but not official interviews of
north of 55 um so that's interesting uh i think at very least two things happened that we asked
one they made a hiring and two they made a hiring that also was aggressive this this year and i
think chica was talking about the head coaching right was he like oh he's talking about he wouldn't
be talking about himself oh yeah you're right you're right glassburg you're right sorry glassburg
hired chica chica when he was talking about the 40 plus that they were talking to that was the
coach right sorry dumb but okay no that's good right like he interviewed a ton of people and
then the guy he hired interviewed a ton of people the problem we had before was when dubas was let
go they interviewed two people for living in british event yes yeah and that should not be
what you do shanahan had that in his back pocket since january when he knew he was feuding with
dubas and they had their little spat and he went this should be a meritocracy this should be a
hard job to get yep and as much as we were all surprised by john shikey getting it what i really
respect is how fucking aggressive he was oh yeah and is and continues to be i think he's uh he's
gone obviously there's a lull right now but that's league wide people are actually on vacation with
their families which is okay i think it's gonna bust open again like i think he's gonna have
another like it's not gonna be one move no i agree i think he's gonna get a lot done i agree
um yeah he's done what i think we've all asked of the least since that last season was such a
disaster and we saw the organization was a disaster it was just time for wholesale changes
in a lot of places and at least he's making those yep absolutely uh torts wants to coach again
uh he spoke with um uh the athletics joe smith and he said oh i want to coach i want to coach
now i'm not sure if that happens uh but and that's where i am with my career but i wanted
to coach that vegas team and i told kelly mccrimmon that my question to you guys very quickly is
who do you think is the team most likely to hire towards this season because it is a copycat league
and he did have a lot of success first team that starts slow first team with expectations that
starts slow i don't think i think it'd be unfair to predict hey this team's gonna suck because
every job is filled right now yeah so it's like hey this team's gonna be bad i don't know if i
can make the prediction right now but i think one of the teams that are gonna struggle out the gate
like they'll they'll look the torts you know who i think close the loop okay detroit i think it's
kind of thinking that i think he's going to be in the atlantic division because somebody listen
there's eight teams somebody's going to start slow so if i don't think it's going to be the
leafs because jim hiller just got hired i don't think it's going to be boston because marco sturm
is about a year and a half into it uh but i do think yeah but he doesn't want to go to a losing
situation and i think detroit like why would they fire um todd mcclellan if they're losing because
that should be the goal right yeah john tortorella quit on philadelphia and said i don't want to be
here right now and i hate all of you because they were losing even though he entered a situation
where the expectation was they're not probably going to be like borderline playoff team and he
was upset at it because they stunk and then i don't see him going to detroit where they're
probably going to be bad again yeah like i don't think that adds up let's turn on hayden's mic so
we can say minnesota what's funny is i i am gonna say minnesota but what i was really gonna say is
like adams or jesse said the team that starts slow with expectations i'm looking at all three teams
in the central the top of the central like dallas they want to get over the hump colorado
you know drew has been talking about bednar's you know who what's up with bednar and i i like
john heinz but he's not like i don't think he's the guy that's gonna get the wild over the hump
so i don't know i just think those teams are the teams with expectations with coaching that's not
solid yeah it's interesting i'm what a brand i'm guy who takes over for fired guy
but like it i mean that's every coach isn't it yeah well but mid-season fired guy ah yeah yes
yes culture guy culture guy how great is that all right here uh like what what's the interview
all right john get mad oh come on oh that was good two years two years two years and then the
other thing the other thought i had is who signs him up for a media job because they're you know
they're going to they're going to put him on tv even though he's really not great tv wednesday
night this just got pretty big the specter of john tortorella is interesting the results are usually
pretty meh yeah like the what's the thing what's the only thing you can remember john tortorella
saying on television that that ever went anywhere and i got i don't like the michigan bingo jesse
blake that's it he's not he's not compelling on tv he's compelling in a press conference
in a scrum well even when he's not there yeah when he does them yeah it'd be compelling even
when he's running away from them he is compelling yeah also yeah i think complete opposite like he's
not compelling at all because he doesn't say anything to the people in the scrums like it's
very annoying to hear him talk jesse i think you ruined john torrella for me permanently
i can't remember what he said it was something during the playoffs and i was like well i don't
know i sort of i guess i understand why he feels that way and you were like yeah but he doesn't
need to speak that way yeah yeah you're just like there's there's a nice there's a just a
professional way to say things why are you an ass and he doesn't he just decides to be an
asshole whenever he opens his mouth uh it's just when you said it in the moment i was like you're
right yeah he didn't need to do it like that and yet he did and then i don't know i hope i hope
there's not a job out there for him oh wow if we moved on from tortorella as an nhl head coach
like what am i cheering for him is that yeah is that surprising that this guy who treats reporters
very poorly um an organization that he took to the Stanley Cup final doesn't want him anymore
because he's so annoying like he doesn't respect anybody around him in this game who in terms of
like outside of the guys he has to coach even those guys like in Philly it seemed like he didn't
respect them he seems like just a bad guy to be around and I don't like dogs I don't know why
he needs to join another organization if we all move past John Tortorella I would be fine with
that i would not in a post-torts world i would not be sad if this hockey world moved on from
this man he's not useful to hockey on television he's useful to hockey as a head coach if he gets
a head coach job sure thing and then even when he has that job he's still not useful to anybody in
the media no but that's not that's not his job it is it is his job well it's his job to at least be
there it can't do that right can't even do that but like in terms of in terms of like being on tv
no no there's got to be something at stake for him yeah don't throw him back on tnt like i don't
yeah he has to be mad that they lost or mad that they won those are the two versions of him and
unfortunately on the panel he's just neutral so he's not fired up you know they should put him
on with pk and mark messier for an all awkward ass espn panel how did we make it worse this year
that would be it's horrendous that i'm sorry to say this it's a painful that watching espn
is painful and i get it like we had complaints all year but i kept doing leaf games in the streams
i was like i believe you but then when the playoffs hit i'm not doing leaf games anymore
well they didn't make the playoffs anyway but i wasn't doing them anyway and i'm watching the
espn thing and i'm like okay so the only thing you have is what funny outfit pk is wearing today
that's it like like you you think i'm kidding it's it's crazy tnt is wiping the floor with
these guys oh yeah it's insane whenever i hear what they have to say i'm like i forgot at the
next minute it's just not that compelling so you put torts in there and it's for an
wow it'd be the same nothing would even change well you know why you should go no what you have
to understand is these guys are trying hard and it means a lot to them and they they play with pride
you know who they should hire ryan reeves ryan reeves could save espn playing hockey maybe he's
a listen i'm i wasn't thrilled with the way he spoke about toronto when he left either they gave
you a three-year contract when they shouldn't have buddy you should be grateful but i think
he is compelling and funny and i think he could be good you need to be able to give him somebody
to bounce yeah i think ryan reeves could be great a great broadcaster in his post-playing career
it's just if he's on that i don't know if he can even save it it's bad no it's dead no no no no no
no one's saving that like i don't know whether whether it's dude it's terrible it's called
straight up awful yeah what when you're a former player or coach like yeah i want you to be fun
tell fun stories you know talk to your friends tell stories about your friends that's great
but when things are going poorly you you got to be able to bring something to the table other than
that is exactly by the way like i wasn't kidding that's what torts would say
well torts you know it's the end of 20 and it's uh eight nothing for um you know the blues blues
over the let's say leafs so people don't get mad at me uh what what did you see after 20 well you
know they're working hard out there yeah and uh you guys will kill them but uh you know they got
a lot of pride the you guys when he's on tv and he says you guys well he's collecting that yeah
collecting a check oh god oh yeah he'll be like you guys out there i know say a lot of thing about
these men out there but you know they're they're skating real hard today i was like what the fuck
is this also watching this whenever he says that as a coach everybody sees through that right
there's no no there's nobody at home on their tv going yeah torts you tell them yes they
very aggressively are really yeah people fall for that bullshit it's bullshit it's bullshit i have
he's horrible news about the world i can tell i can tell you what john's being i've watched enough
john press conferences now to know when john is absolutely like with every you're asking if people
he's completely full of shit yeah and then when it when you get the real john post game
i can tell when he's being real and that's why i had such an issue with the way he was brought in
the way he talked about cassidy the article in the athletic like this is bullshit and it took
two weeks and he got a hundred thousand dollar fine for being exactly what he's always been
i will say in hindsight tortorella in vegas was everything i wanted it to be it was a good villain
what what a speed run yeah yeah yeah what is that like it didn't need to be a three-hour
you know christopher nolan movie right is that's that was a nice episode that was a one-off that
was great that was a youtube video even that was great i love that that was everything i wanted
more jesse what is that are we all done for the day yeah we're done okay we're gonna close on
ESPN greatest hits
McDavid has a poor golf swing
so because that the Zach
I'm in golf thing they're all playing golf
they caught McDavid's golf swing
it's ugly Jesse hold on
now is the stance good right here
yes decent he's leaned back so he's trying to hit up
on the ball here it's his driver so he's got
on his front foot he's leaning back with
the shoulder it's good he's trying to yeah swing up
on it it's good okay good start here
but then you watch him swing
and what McDavid does here
is egregious for somebody who is a very athletic human i don't know what so here's the swing
oh he goes oh he took a step forward so mcdavid does a little jump hop into his golf
oh no swing which is just not anything anybody should be doing can you break this down frame
by frame like where does he go wrong so right here we're actually that looks pretty good right
we're not bad i he's trying to lean forward here he's trying to he's gonna turn his hips a little
bit more i'd like the arm a little more straight he's creating good lag with the club actually so
he is he is getting a little momentum i'd like more lag here he's getting a little inside of
himself and then he's just completely lost his feet somewhere along here on the downswing
and he just decides to hop at the ball that's happy gomor ask i love uh jesse blake golf
breakdown yeah goodness so we have an nhl golf swing and then yeah he just does not complete
the swing correctly at all
as he is facing the ball forward.
Like, I don't know who his swing coach is,
but I don't think they tell him
to face his front body towards the ball,
both feet towards it,
and then swing through the ball that way.
If you're Connor McDavid's coach, though,
are you actually giving him hints?
Are you going, hey, Connor, that looks great?
No, you are.
You are?
I don't think golf is a thing
where you just need to pat him on the back
because you can see the results.
Good job, man.
I upped my rate again.
I hope that's okay.
That is, yeah, that's tough.
Steve?
Yes?
Do you think you have a better golf swing than Conor McDavid?
No.
No, I wouldn't.
I don't know if I stumble, but I'm not hitting it as far.
Right, right, right.
Like, I didn't even see how far that went.
I could tell it was farther.
Yeah, we can't see where the ball landed,
but yeah, he probably gets a little more on it.
When we go to the course at Clubhouse,
I whack about 1,000 balls.
and you're sore the next day and i'm sore the next day for like two or three days and if i hit
one above 200 i'm thrilled i usually get one yeah yeah usually get one usually step with all your
power into it and it's usually not one where like it's where i'm probably paying attention the least
if i the the second i start thinking about what i'm doing i can't do it the dangerous thing we
do at the course in clubhouse for sore bodies the next day is when we start picking up the golf balls
and we start measuring how hard we can throw them that's bad too please don't do that yeah it shows
you like the miles per hour that the ball is going so we just start whipping the golf balls
and we've done the last couple years and next day your shoulders just all fucked up yeah 24 hours
because you shouldn't just be a no no warm-up at all throwing a ball as hard as you can into a sim
screen you know what usually i resent this but the internet is right 38 year old man by the way
you yes just i can't hit it far you know what yeah and then ow my arm hurts all right let's
hit that extra we probably shouldn't encourage people to do that by the way no no it's a good
time though don't do it but it's a good time it's a good time there's a lot of things in life like
that yeah you're right don't do it it's a good time yeah no you know what's important to know
about his golf swing he's a good guy he's trying hard
