Starting point is 00:00:00 Sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where TaskRabbit comes in and I think you should check this out because here's the deal. One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows. And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window, you can do that yourself. And I'm like, well, hang on a second. What if I don't want to? I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
Starting point is 00:00:28 The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals. see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list 15 off your first task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app using the promo code dangle taskers across canada book up fast especially for same day tasks get 15 off your first task right now with the promo code dangle at taskrabbit.ca or the task rabbit app you should
Starting point is 00:01:10 download that taskrabbit.ca code dangle the steve dangle podcast with your host steve dangle adam wild and jesse blake let's go hey so uh i got it's funny i i just got off the air uh with maddie we were up early for the sweden finland game which was great we'll talk about it um steve this afternoon 310 team canada is there and then your next stream steve would be on sunday right yeah i believe so 10 40 or 10 something canada plays on sunday against a team not so no france it's france france not switzerland so it's france hey jess when's your next one saturday what's uh that is the quarter finals they are playing germany okay and 40 a.m all right so that'll be right after mine hey what's
Starting point is 00:02:04 that it goes so fast yeah yeah already there it's two weeks you gotta cram it all in right we did we did three yesterday jesse was at 8 40 steve was at 10 40 and then i was at 3 10 um and then tomorrow i've got two and jesse's got one in the middle of the day so i've got the early morning uh sweden versus slovakia which is now a big game a really super important game it's uh i think for the for the group it is yeah it's for the group and if sweden loses like we'll get into it no they're in big shit if they lose and then it's it's big shit but it's also everybody makes the next round i know but like seating wise totally you gotta play the extra game it means something well but they've set it up so they've lowered the stakes i mean you don't have to worry
Starting point is 00:02:50 about having to play the extra game philip forsberg's fresh oh we'll talk about it i don't think we're getting we're not getting into that i'm trying to talk through the streams tomorrow it's called the tease jesse's got the quarters what's the cause of teaser you jump in you know what i got the so jesse's got the quarter so i've got the i got the i think at the 610 jesse's got that is it 1040 i'm 1040 on saturday okay and then i got this is fun i got the usa and latvia tomorrow too not latvia no we got usa somebody tomorrow i don't know they're playing there's so many games it doesn't matter you know um and uh button again i want to shout out usa denmark oh it's denmark i saw latvia yesterday see this is where yeah you've got a lot of games you're
Starting point is 00:03:30 you've already done usa latvia and the latvians played pretty damn well too yeah uh i'm not really surprised by that though they they get like power-up cards when they play uh international especially when they're playing like a top-seeded team they're like you know what we might make it interesting uh they don't win often i think they've only won three olympic games ever but they do make it close they do make it close now we're gonna start with team canada because it kind of makes the most sense for us uh steve you streamed that game yesterday and listen as a long time team canada watcher and cheerer um anybody of our vintage will understand uh what the czech republic as it used to be known uh did to team canada in 1998 in the semi sorry
Starting point is 00:04:13 quarterfinals semifinals semifinals uh dominic yes jeremy jogger pain suffering sadness um yesterday though didn't look particularly close no and it's weird because i don't really think the checks had much to do with that i i thought they played pretty well um canada just completely overwhelmed them and uh squeezed them like a friggin boa constructor like there were times during the first half of the game where it seemed relatively close you'd still probably call canada of the better team but shots were somewhat close scoring chances Canada hadn't pulled that far ahead Bennington had to be sharp but I think once it was two nothing and you had to adjust your play style a little bit there was nothing the Czechs could do what Canada was dialed what blew
Starting point is 00:05:11 me away was the hits thrown by not just like everybody but Connor McDavid Sidney Crosby throwing huge monster hits yeah this is this is why i i wouldn't allow myself to believe this would happen because it's the olympics and you know the double ihf and all that um i've told you for a while now hockey is heading in a certain direction and these olympics are the loudest proclamation of that now you know there's like nick suzuki taking that tripping penalty yesterday and you go oh yeah that weird pass to yeah it was it was it's a trip that probably often doesn't get called that definitely doesn't wash out a goal but whatever like it's a trip you get over it yeah um the nhl having nhl refs there and having george peros i promise i'm not going on a rant
Starting point is 00:06:05 uh there to sort of oversee things they want a rougher tournament they want a rougher brand at the olympics and the nhl if you're gonna get our players at your tournament that's in the middle of our season i don't care that it's the olympics i think the way they look at it is you're gonna do things our way and it's there's a reason you're seeing guys just get killed there's every ship when they were uh tussling out in front who was it who bumped jordan binnington um i forget i forget i also i forget well a lot of games when they bumped jordan binnington and then and then they were starting gauging in front like that's a situation where if this the nhl they're probably fighting you know but they still allowed them to throw a couple like hey stop that kind of stuff
Starting point is 00:06:57 yeah it was pretty rough and i think i think you're very right in the style of hockey that they're allowing here at the olympics the cross check from mckinnon on yanru yeah where he like fell down hard greasy and then there was a moment a couple shifts later in the check-in where gudas and mckinnon bump into each other and the camera is iso on gudas's face and he gives mckinnon the daggers yeah and i'm like oh like i was even saying on the stream i'm like okay if you give that you have to be willing to take it as well sure and after that look from gudas where he definitely said something as well the entire team canada roster is like we are bullying this man for the rest of the game and they just hammered the guy like it was can i just tell you
Starting point is 00:07:45 it's chippy good oh radko gudas specifically radko yes good yes i'm thrilled i'm thrilled on behalf of the entire nhl the radko gudas got bullied yeah overwhelmed and i listen i have been a ducks truther all year long of course and he's a big part of that yeah but screw that guy the olympics have been ducks truthers yeah they have a lot of them i kind of wonder how different sweden would look with leo carlson um the the the thing with canada too there's always i think a little bit of anxiety before the first game because the first game is always a little weird you know teams are trying to figure each other out i saw it a little bit in the united states game yesterday i don't want to get into that yet but you know you're trying to you know that the
Starting point is 00:08:25 line mates are somewhat new yes they played at four nations but that was 365 days ago yeah and it seemed like with the exception of that weird nick suzuki played and nathan mckinnon that wasn't all that great um and that was like in the first period like they just seemed to seamlessly get it their list of mistakes is on a post-it note like they were pretty good they seem more dialed than all of the other teams i think canada looked the best out of every team you know with with the other the shaky swedes and finland losing like canada there were no mistakes especially on that that power play where they they had the tic-tac-toe out front and like that stuff is just like second nature to them it feels like they've been playing for forever it's so they're they're
Starting point is 00:09:11 so scary the the only player i was like i didn't have the greatest game is like sam bennett and he almost scored like everyone looked really good and i think maybe the most relieving part is bennington was sharp yeah he was good yeah he didn't have a whole hell of a lot to do the second half of the game but um when the game was tight um his uh reaction saves off of deflections in particular were pretty impressive yeah it's a different game and it's it's honestly we just need to concede and you say it the whole time and like why he's getting the start but when these moments happen and there's a good team in front of him he's a different goaltender there's a difference between what the blues are running out there and i know that blues fans might be upset
Starting point is 00:09:58 but like your team's not that great right now they know there's a difference between that and the team canada six defensemen or seven defensemen that they have in front of him and when he has that type of system and those guys playing he's a better goaltender and the starter for this team yeah there were a lot of shots from the checks that were just muffin garbage because canada like it wasn't just uh their defenders it's like we kind of identified it they were going to have stronger depth up the middle obviously almost every um winger on the team is like a two-way monster like there was just there was no room there was and you saw the checks were like hero ball hero ball hero okay fine hero ball and they would just give the puck to posturnak and
Starting point is 00:10:51 Nietzsche's and try to get them to create and it almost worked like a couple times um I kind of think you need to do that a little bit when you have like the top talent in the world um but they weren't able to get anything going as a team I will say that cheering for achieve or cheering for a team with a maple leaf on its jersey and beating David Pasternak in a high leverage game with Mitch Marner with Mitch Marner doesn't happen much now um I I want to ask a little bit more about bennington because you know they asked john cooper after the game when did you make the decision he was going to start the first game he's like well 358 days ago yep um i we believe logan thompson will play this afternoon yeah uh but i guess until otherwise benner's the guy
Starting point is 00:11:33 i i don't know why anyone expected anything different well i don't think we did i still think we were all raising alarm bells for his performance in the nhl this year yeah but he's also on a terrible team and that team has been in decline for five years yeah and you know that is what it is right like they haven't been the same since petrangelo left we know that he's also prone to just being as being a baby frankly and like shit in his pants and i think the blues have given him a lot of reason to do that this year and he's given the blues a lot of reason to do that this year but he's a big game player we we've talked about this and it's not just the four nation stuff it's not just the stanley cup stuff like he took a relatively mid owen sound attack team
Starting point is 00:12:17 to uh an ohl championship took them all the way to the memorial cup i want to say they were like the eighth seed or something in the ohl that doesn't happen no and he was just ridiculous and they got a few excellent performances from their team but like he's done this his whole career like there's some sort of when there's something on the line there's a clarity uh that obviously makes him elite in those moments yeah well it's an insane thing to say about you're not about to shit your pants while you're playing for team canada right like i would hope not not with nathan mckinnon on that team no way no um do you know what his save percentage is this here it's like 860 something shitty poo 864 864 is psycho yeah age 8 shitty poo is better
Starting point is 00:13:10 8 shitty poo that's pretty good that's a pretty good number what's joel hofer diarrhea barf 0.4 piss and a little hork too a little hork you've been doing a lot of that lately yeah yeah i can barely making it through these streams a hofer isn't 895 this year eight oh that's way better than i thought okay all right there you go i also want to talk about the top line for team canada and i want to start with not one not well mcdavid um i don't want to start with macklin i want to start with tom wilson okay and mcdavid was very complimentary of tom wilson called him a four checking god um has created a lot of room for tom wilson i was looking at that maybe this is crazy and i'm going does edmonton look at that and go hmm not tom
Starting point is 00:13:56 wilson specifically but maybe we should get connor a big scary winger not that there's many available zach hyman is like the modern version of that no but like a bigger guy than zach hyman what if you had two zach hymans well they tried that already with trent frederick oh geez come on i'm sure that's what they thought he was yeah i think the unique thing about tom wilson is that there aren't many tom wilson yeah like you can't edmonton can't go out and get a tom wilson because he's a one of one in his play style right now in the nhl and what he provides from a goal scoring standpoint and from a physicality nobody is like tom wilson we've been doing this show for a long time and a lot of our takes suck some of them age like gold and when wilson signed his contract when he was he
Starting point is 00:14:45 was getting like five points something when that was really really high for a winger uh and in terms of production he had not earned that number but we had spent a lot of time over the early part of our show which started in 2013 talking about the the nhl identifying a market inefficiency and uh hey no one's drafting these small guys who can score uh like alex de brinkett's dropping to the second round and teams started to realize wait that's stupid let's go out and get these guys and then a couple years into that i'm like what if a guy like tom wilson has become the market inefficiency and how many tom wilson's are there in the league i well there's only one tom but there are other power forwards i think like he for sure sherwood would be a light version not even
Starting point is 00:15:40 no scores like tom i yeah listen you're asking me for an archetype you're not asking for a match nice could be one day nice is a decent answer um you know but there are not a lot is the right yeah i'm not saying you're not going to get a direct one-to-one comparable just and i don't think we're asking for that yeah i think i think i am i think what steve's trying to illustrate is that there aren't tom wilson's yeah it's he's he's he's very he's rare like brady kachuk brady kachuk i think you could say i don't know i don't know if matthew kachuk plays like that he's a little different he's and connor mcdavid has always wanted to play with a player like that we know that from that weird little interview when he was with the eerie otters um they're
Starting point is 00:16:22 like who do you want to play with he goes milan lucic and it was like 2013 14 when he said that everyone wanted to play with milan lucci to that age uh when oh my god he was ruining the entire league um and then he got to play with lucci and it didn't go so good but he wasn't lucci anymore uh the longevity to wilson's career i mean he's he's one of one he's one of one because conor mcdavid doesn't need someone to to like help him out offensively like no i think he just he was saying after the game how great it was to have that space cleared for him yeah it was connor saying it exactly i'm just saying what he said the guy can go get the puck and move it and do whatever he wants just like make the room for him to do those things it wasn't a ton of and he
Starting point is 00:17:14 had three assists it wasn't a ton of like solo efforts from connor it was a lot of let me just scooch by there like he would take advantage of the chaos and uh canada sort of has they have a few guys on their team who are who i noticed doing that yesterday mcdavid did a good job of just sort of scooting in um and god that that third line crosby can't win a puck battle against them stone can't win a puck battle against them and marner let me just scooch right in there thank you for the puck mark stone was fantastic i know the broadcast gave him like a ton of love but it was deserved with how he showed up and how i think the narrative around him early on this season like very early when people were down on mark stone well he does wash and everything and doesn't break
Starting point is 00:18:00 since since like mid-fall like he's been on fire yeah yeah i i resent that i don't think anyone was ever down on mark stone i think we were concerned he'd be hurt mark stone who has ever been like i don't know if mark stone's good since when other than the team who drafted him in like the sixth round or whatever it was like since he entered the nhl everyone's like no yeah he's he's elite actually what i would like to compile and i think our audience would be better at this than me who are players that get a disproportionate amount of love on every broadcast mark stone's one of them mark stone a million percent disproportionate disproportionate because they're like we may never get to see him again yeah it's like petrangelo when to a last couple years of petrangelo last
Starting point is 00:18:54 couple years of shea weber there's a phenomenon like the guys know the guys know it's like this guy's coming to the end of his career and it's pretty fun to watch him well in the leafs in particular if there's a player they know is only coming to town once and like you're gonna get two of this guy's games a year they're like let me tell you about mark stone like it's his last day on earth yeah yeah yeah and it does get annoying macklin celebrini opened the scoring for canada in the tournament why do you hate mark stone 19 i don't i mark stone mitch marner sam bennett brad marshand i just list uh i just listed a group of flawless men for the next two weeks four guys you not the biggest fan love them all boys sam reinhardt lovely man maclin celebrini
Starting point is 00:19:38 the other side of mcdavid he's fine uh scored a goal on a tip in open the scoring look pretty damn good shouldn't be 19 shouldn't be on the scene they have pierre lebrun was saying that they made the decision in like like well well before uh the december deadline like they're like yeah this kid's coming good and he's but to have him there like i would have expected them to do the old the old man thing and be like no you're gonna sit on the bench with seth jarvis uh but instead he's on the top line and scores immediately and is a big part of what happened yesterday i just feel like this is a kid that is not afraid of anything any big moment no which is kind of cool underratedly sturdy yes yeah yeah so i'm i'm curious to see what he does
Starting point is 00:20:25 in the rest of the tournament but that arguably is again in theory you have to play the games the toughest matchup canada will have in this round robin you will see with with switzerland i'm i'm curious man i i thought i had a read on this tournament yeah and rupees throwing all that to the wind we'll get to that yeah no it turns out i don't know anything uh actually but i mean again with canada so what notes could you possibly have so here's my question morrissey gets the injury we don't know how bad that might may or may not be right but on the forward side of things we know seth jarvis has got to play at some point if or do or does he so here's my question does seth jarvis need to play and if you are going to get him into one game
Starting point is 00:21:13 maybe it's versus france or whatever right low leverage not that seth jarvis is a bad player but who comes out for seth jarvis like that that lineup looked pretty fucking good like how do you do that uh my answer would probably be bennett just because i i feel like he didn't play very much he had the lowest minutes yeah yeah um so probably bennett and honestly i would i think i would do it today or i wouldn't do it okay really not against france yeah well if a guy's banged up i don't want him playing back-to-back days but like france a lot of people are overlooking that game that's a ramp up game if you plan on winning your group you know you already have a day off then it's that game and then i think what
Starting point is 00:22:08 is it a couple days off and and if you get the buy how much time off is that no you need to kill them you need to play lock in exactly as hard as you played against that you need to if you have the ability to beat them 12 nothing you have to yeah okay so i was like differential is the tiebreaker too that helps but i look at it as a as a ramp up game so you you play your best lineup jesse if you had to take somebody out for seth jarvis who would it be i would probably lean on hey whoever needs a rest gets a rest yeah like i think because he can play anywhere right yeah i think like i do i'm not worried about them beating france and i think at this point because they've taken care of business against the other best team in the group that they're
Starting point is 00:22:55 pretty much assured that by so i would just use it as a maintenance day for everybody who needs maintenance this is gonna be really funny when switzerland wins five three no oh yeah no i went to the universe i don't dare you speak that into a mic no it's just every every team basically has had their uh-oh moment at this tournament already and uh i don't know when does canada's arrive they've only played one game i think those lesser teams have had that not team canada yeah well lesser team yeah who are you sorry for having pride for my country jesse jesse name all the lesser teams so we could put it every one of them there's 11 there's one team and then there's the other team wow there's canada and then the rest of the world hell yeah um what's our streak at
Starting point is 00:23:40 right now the uh we're undefeated in the last three games oh in the olympics in the olympics with nhl oh with nhl is yeah and we're 10 and oh they won stupid gold oh my god yeah let me think about that i think the winning streak might go back to beating germany in the qualifier game in 2010 yeah i think it's 10 and oh um i can look it up and the shutout streak's been three games long jesse like there's all right there chris cutbert i don't have that power over the universe yes you do all i'm saying is there's team canada and then there's the rest so i don't think six six and oh at sochi undefeated right now and then uh 2010 they were six and one so it goes back to their one loss in 2010 that's the winning streak against team usa in the round robin that's the last time
Starting point is 00:24:33 we lost wow crazy and guess what i don't want another loss no ever again i was there and they i was at that game yeah i know it was 16 years you've never mentioned that yeah i was there i was there man i was at that game he's built a whole podcast on that tournament jesse whole business in fact um did i ever tell you i was there um and then that summer i went and worked at the zoo that must have been a real come down it was i covered the end of it and here i am back at the zoo it was a mental struggle but that's life um it is so uh so team canada pretty much next to perfect and uh not much it's interesting when a game goes that well it's like well what do you say i felt bad and that person was great lucas dostol at the end of the second period when
Starting point is 00:25:23 the canada scored that really late goal and he could barely stand up do you remember how tired he was he was keeled over just sweating and then they score a goal i'm like oh poor guy and he's so good like i thought the checks played well that that spot check kid i was really impressed with david camp punched above his weight uh pasta and niches were really good kempney i thought was pretty good kempney was a dick yes total dick yeah but they were just outmatched sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down
Starting point is 00:26:09 and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and they're way around on that it's like well it's a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't want to i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the Washer thing. The chemicals. You've got to have the right chemicals. See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I used TaskRabbit, and I employed a tasker.
Starting point is 00:26:30 Here's the thing. TaskRabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly, home repairs, lawn maintenance, mounting, window cleaning, all that stuff. Here's the deal. 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled, 700,000 home repairs, 1.5 million moves and counting. Go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list. $15 off your first task at TaskRabbit.ca or on the TaskRabbit app using the promo code
Starting point is 00:26:53 DANGLE. Taskers across Canada book up fast, especially for same-day tasks. Get $15 off your first task right now with the promo code DANGLE at TaskRabbit.ca or the TaskRabbit app. You should download that. TaskRabbit.ca. Code DANGLE. Let's move on. Let's move on. Because I want to talk about Sweden. And to me in this tournament, obviously there have been some surprises and you know we'll talk about slovakia we'll talk about finland we're going to talk about italy too group b is wild right now absolutely nuts but i've watched two swedish gentlemen i watched uh luca frigo open the scoring and let me ask you this if your goaltender is struggling and your defense is making mistakes and your forwards aren't getting anything done
Starting point is 00:27:43 five on five what does that usually mean uh you're probably not well coached so jesse when i jesse remember when i brought up phil fours yeah yeah when do i get to issue my apology so can you do i get an apology for this a hundred percent okay give it to me adam adam was very very adamant to bring up philip forsberg's 13th spot in the four group right i shot that thing down it's philip forsberg one pontus holmberg is in this lineup regularly yeah you're telling me that philip forsberg is going to be on this team and he's not going to get more playing time than pontus holberg that's ridiculous adam shut the hell up we're not talking about this you stupid idiot and as a guy who is very often wrong about things i was once again wrong about things now
Starting point is 00:28:37 it's not as wrong as i was about connor hellebuck that is an all that is that's the all-time wrong but it comes in with a silver medal oh i said he was gonna play 15 minutes we shouldn't worry about this let's move on and then he ends up playing a minute and nine seconds seven seconds sorry a minute oh look put that on the counter i'm wrong again that's bronze this is this is the show me being wrong so he gets one shift also the one shift he had might have been the worst shift anybody's ever had in the history of hockey he gets on the awful turnover and it's like okay go back to the bench disgusting so i apologize for being so wrong this is the number one topic i want to talk about all tournament because their head coach is a disaster and should be fired now
Starting point is 00:29:31 if you could fire a head coach mid olympics i would do this adam you were right this is a story he's the 13th forward and it's ridiculous so phil forsberg jesse said he will play 15 minutes in the first game i said those words he's played two games how many minutes jesse and steve has filled i know this though 90 seconds he played 107 versus italy and 931 today oh and head coach sam halam whoa black betty whoa sam sam halam uh has said that uh it's hard to get him into the lineup if he's playing anything under under the first two damn and i think it's easy to get you in the unemployment line i was so upset when i saw that tweet are you stupid yes mitch marner's a third line player on team canada jesse never sydney crosby's on the third line yes but jesse
Starting point is 00:30:28 you're changing up you're changing up you're canada all the way right canada all the way are you canada down you've always known i've been canada down mr mccray y'all know y'all know call me saying words uh although i'm canada dumb yeah oh yeah do we know that and but i'm gonna take all of us for america you know what america wants me to write me a check i'll take it my boyfriend's on the right wing of the fourth line yeah pretty good one hand anyway never interrupt your enemy when they're in the middle of a mistake and it's one of the biggest advantages and this is going to sound arrogant north american i'm well aware but this is one of the biggest advantages canada and the united states have in all these tournaments you look
Starting point is 00:31:17 Keep Canada on paper, U.S. on paper, Sweden usually, Finland usually, Russia usually, if they're in the tournament. And you go, man, this is even. And the advantage that Canada and the U.S. always have is those countries don't have a good coach. Finland less so. I don't want to lump them in there. But like Russia is the team where I've always noticed this. and you know how like canada every time we lose there's a referendum yeah the quarter final loss to canada by russia 7-3 or whatever it was should have been a referendum for the program no it's the
Starting point is 00:32:00 same stubborn political nonsense wow it's very political in russia too it's yeah like oh uh like they had a guy i want to say they had a guy who just rolled four lines on the power play yeah are you a dumbass probably yeah you're you run the cheats are you no i'm serious are you a dumbass you run the country's national hockey program and you run it like it's you seven are you stupid it does leo's team run for yes how old is leo hey jesse is fine hey jesse i don't know if you know have you seen uh leo's team play yeah i am going to i steve has only should come out steve's told me only bad things so apparently they get pumped a lot i'll tell you this hey hey hey man we work hard and have fun just want to say that they fucking suck and oh yeah whoa terrible they're
Starting point is 00:32:50 they are truly a bunch of that's what i've heard uh but no we're unreal we're on the come up but but sam alam is the guy that that he's saying that right it's probably there's no way it's probably no way but i'm calling him sam alam because every time it's holland bro i have to interrupt you to go oh black baby so anyway sam does more than just the olympics though he does the world championships and all that stuff but the swedes yeah even in the chat this morning they're like please fire this fucking coach he hasn't the swedes on our stream we're like get rid of this man he hasn't do anything other than international attorneys by the way he hasn't um coached a club team since i just clicked off his page now who's the dumbass steven um
Starting point is 00:33:39 um since i want to say 21 22 yeah 21 22 he was a head coach of the vasho lakers and he hasn't coached the clubs club since um it says he's going to coach in sweden uh switzerland sorry next year um oh he got a job he got it he literally got a job is that the what are we doing is he like just a rich guy who has a little bit i can just sit around and coach the national team i i just like what is happening i i always wonder like in this isn't like canadian arrogance this is we're talking about nhl players here um william nylander who doesn't listen to craig berube let alone you you know what i mean yeah has missed two practices by the way because why am i participating in a whoa blackberry practice what victor headman
Starting point is 00:34:37 you have his full attention probably not i'm victor headman i shit better resumes than yours yep what what are we talking about and like i'm saying this indignantly for swedish fans and and swedish players this is the best you could come up with is a guy who hasn't coached a club since 21 22 and benches philip forsberg what's the matter with and was bad at four nations and was but what yeah he was the coach at four nations and he did such a good job there yeah you need to bring him back what are you doing now can i also say something you know you mentioned to start this off you said you know the big one of the big differentiators for canada's and in the united states is coaching right and and the fact the access to coaches here's the thing all these
Starting point is 00:35:29 national programs have an opportunity to hire a coach from wherever they want it doesn't have to be a coach now canada and the united states are going to hire from their own crop because they have enough latvia's head coach for a number of years was ted nolan well here's the guy that i want to bring up the italian team who are well overperforming what they should be doing are coached by a guy named yuka yolonan and a lot of people including my italian name yeah he's a finnish god he's never come over to the nhl but he's done khl he's won a bunch of championships i think with yokerit um and then obviously done a lot of you know finished league and all that but i'm just going to run you down some of his attributes he was the winter olympics head coach
Starting point is 00:36:10 for finland in 22 when they won uh he's got three bronzes uh as well oh no so he got one bronze in 2010 olympics so he did that one too so he does coach nhl players three double ihf world championships winning uh one coming in second place um he's also got a u20 he's got a euro hockey tour win he's got an sm liga win he's got a junior challenge win and he's got a bunch of seconds and thirds in there as well this guy has them he's also he was a khl all-star game coach in 13 14 and 18 finished coach of the year 2011 2016 2022 uh sm liga coach of the year 2006 finished hockey hall of fame in 2012 we're hey he was he was brought into the hall of fame 14 years ago in finland this guy that's crazy and he's coaching italy you can go out and get these
Starting point is 00:37:02 coaches right you can find these guys and i it was interesting because apparently during the Swedish broadcast this morning Phil Gustafson was kind of excoriated on the uh on the first intermission panel which included I've never heard that word um uh Henrik Lundqvist uh was like hey he's not playing good but I think and I don't think Gustafson's been great I think what I saw in the Italy game and it you have to remember Italy was outshot 60 to 20 unbelievable most all time most all time so the most before that shot per minute yes a shot per minute and it was didn't it was crazy on goal damien clara who was a third or fifth round pick of the anaheim ducks from 2023 was phenomenal what a factory then he strained something and had to be traced david
Starting point is 00:37:50 david fedini came in very italian uh and he came in and was pretty spectacular as well but what was amazing about the italians is they kind of knew they weren't going to control play and the swedes were going to have the puck the whole time simply didn't have the manpower so what do they do they took advantage of the swedish mistakes on the rush the both goals i mean the first one is really if you're a goaltender to end the goal yeah right the gustafson one with with luca frigo yep but the second one is right off the rush the defense looks slow and i know they're not snow slow players jess i know like i i know hedman can play fast in that oel did not play by the way in the first game either yeah it was the same thing with forrest you sat on the
Starting point is 00:38:33 bitch didn't use them you can play them you can play them like how do you if you're okay all right if you're a swedish player and oliver fucking ekman larson is one of the best swedish defensemen to ever play is stapled to the bench how do you have the respect of the room it just makes you look stupid like you need to be that harsh about it because you know like imagine what the players are saying oel hasn't even gotten in the game that's fucking stupid like at all at all not one shift against it you have seven guys to use them it doesn't make sense just having a guy sit there no and like let me let me just illustrate to you a little bit like how outmatched italy was yeah there is a skill to playing against the team you just know is better yep right um someone
Starting point is 00:39:23 messaged me yesterday they're like man that frigo guy looked awesome i like i wonder if scouts look at him luca frigo is 32 will be 33 in may he has eight goals and 15 points in 43 games in austria and that's who sweden beat by the skin of their teeth guys by the way uh yuha yalanen yeah i recognize him from when i did khl highlights like this guy's been in a he's been around coach for a very long apparently the only reason he's never ended up in the nhl is he won't take an assistant coaching job because it's not the same job right i've said this for a very long time yeah it's not the same job not the same skill set good for him I can understand why you don't have one of Forsberg or brought in the in the top six at all times because
Starting point is 00:40:21 you you're hey look at that you're so deep you can't right Kempe I think needs to be in the top six Raymond and Nylander absolutely have to be right I understand switching out but you're telling me that Pontus Holmberg's got more of a position in this lineup than Philip Forsberg Forsberg can play either side of the ice so can landis cog landis cog is still a good player but he's not gabriel landis cog that we know and we know that he's there playing a specific role he's a leader and he the his story is incredible but he's missed a ton of time over the last three years and he missed all of what from the beginning of january to literally right now yeah like you're telling me you can't switch landis cog out for a couple of shifts who i don't just don't think has it in the
Starting point is 00:41:04 same way that he used to i would argue i know that's not fun to say but it's kind of true i would argue at this very moment gabriel landis cog's their most important player oh he's the captain if anyone can talk sense into this coach it's the captain well then then maybe push holmberg down and put landis cog and vorsberg out there like it's crazy like it's nothing against holmberg holmberg's one of those players who he he follows what the coach tells him to to such a t that like of course he's going to get preference but it comes at the cost of a guy like philip forrestberg which is nuts yeah it shouldn't be scandalous to be like philip forrestberg should play more than pontus holmberg that shouldn't be scandal well i look at it like the way jesse was talking
Starting point is 00:41:47 about the women's side and natalie spooner really is sort of a power play specialist as the 13th forward yeah why can't holmberg be more of a defensive specialist he doesn't have to just play PK but I think that's where he's best served if you've got an offensive zone face off why do you have Pontus Holmberg out there and I saw him in and around the net and I respect that whatever but like if you have an offensive zone face off and Philip Forsberg or Pontus Holmberg are your choices or even Landis Gog or Forsberg I know who I'm picking I need to confirm this but I'm almost positive when Holmberg won playoff MVP in Sweden it was with this guy this isn't this is not the swedish elite league i agree yeah vasho lakers he was the head coach
Starting point is 00:42:31 2021 that's great and holmberg when they won yeah it was 20 i'm not trying to hate on holmberg i'm just trying to say there's a skill differential between holmberg and forrestburg i agree yeah no this they have the wrong guy and they have the wrong guy in the wrong mindset and today especially the fin the swedes had a chance to not only win the nordic bowl uh which is such an important game just for your pride right finland sweden every time doesn't matter the level it could be a men's league beer league hockey game if it's sweden finland it's worth watching yeah and you've got both sets of fans they're both screaming kyle bukaskas this morning you know it's like 605 i'm watching the pregame and he could barely hear himself talk they're so loud
Starting point is 00:43:18 in there yeah and the fins come in it's a must win they don't win this they're down oh and two you got to win this pretty surprising loss again slovakia absolutely yeah so what do they do they came out and they and the sweets had moments in this game where they look good but the fins just flat out outworked them it was like it was like watching the florida panthers and that's how they win that's how that's how i was about to say that's how the florida panthers win it sort of is and that and killing you um but that is how finland wins games internationally they outwork you and they really did today you really noticed too luster ryan and lindell what of and i thought this was hilarious you know the finnish power play with the exception of one guy is basically
Starting point is 00:44:02 all stars the dallas stars from last year's playoff run hence grandlin uh ranted in and like it's it's devastating sorry go ahead jess i was just gonna say steve was asking before the show i want to update you because you're asking about the standings because because of that sweden loss this morning uh they are they only they're one and one and things come down to goal differential now and on the goal differential they're actually trailing finland so they're third in their group the groups currently sit slovakia finland sweden italy i never ever would have called hold on so their goal differential is the same but because finland beats sweden they're ahead yeah and so you'll see there uh they actually have zero zero on
Starting point is 00:44:45 their goal differentials but yeah the tiebreak goes to they beat them i mean wow like there's lots of time left in this tournament of course any one of those teams could still win gold nobody's out you know but uh i i expected sweden to sleepwalk through this group yep me too which is maybe a little disrespectful but like then you see slovakia beat finland so that chronologically that happened first and then finland was playing like this is a must win this morning and they went out and they must want it but no what i'm saying so chronologically slovakia finland happened slovakia wins and i'm like oh sweden's going to mop this group mop it and then i get home and it's 2-2 against italy i'm like what the hell's going on
Starting point is 00:45:38 italy had the lead italy had they had the lead they opened the scoring obviously frigo and then and then later on tied it up to make it to all because i think it was nylander that scored uh end of the first i don't know there's so many so much hockey it doesn't matter the the the italians like the fins the italians are a lot smaller than the fins yeah right like you say it's pretty funny watching victor headman carry a puck and watch the italian forward swarm him and they're all five eight yeah it's like it's literal video game shit but the um the fact that the italians were able to create turnovers by swarming at all at all was nuts especially like they're so outmatched when it comes to speed when it comes to everything i thought their speed was actually
Starting point is 00:46:27 pretty good they speed was italy italy speed yeah i agree uniform what's that right like because they were uniform because they skated together yeah it like it wasn't individual speed it was team speed i also think there's got to be and i don't know what you guys thought about this but obviously they play on the bigger ice surface in europe too right and i wonder if these guys are used to just fucking wheeling all the time and it's like we know we don't have the size so we gotta go i didn't see anything wrong with their legs like i thought i thought they can hang in that respect and i think you nailed it when you said when they got a couple opportunities they're like let's go make use of this and this is when we'll ramp up and try and get that goal because
Starting point is 00:47:04 it's gonna be few and far between for italy but they're able to we get a little bit of a sliver of ice here we're gonna go and we're gonna try and score a goal and they did it i thought it was funny that one of the stronger performances on sweden was a guy who is just highly skilled and prone to just ignoring his coach and william william nylander a few times just had the puck he's like i'm just gonna fucking i'm just gonna go be willie because he probably looks at it's like it's fucking italy like i can do this on my own and he'd do it a couple times and that's the attitude like sweden's got to have with this is like why are we playing so cute with this lineup and this team just go out there and try and dominate three guys that i really like for
Starting point is 00:47:45 sweden that i think they should take advantage of if they have a smart coach and it doesn't look like they do no Willie Willie's chemistry with Darlene is really interesting like Darlene Willie sauced a an unbelievable backhand pass from below the red line to Darlene this morning and Darlene fired that shit home and I was like man if Toronto could just get a defenseman to shoot the can we please put Oliver Ekman Larson on that on the on the point on the power play they haven't had a shot back there since like pavel kubina yeah and that was not a great experiment so but you know who else is the third guy joel erickson neck he is such a bastard in front of the net nails and and he was mixing it up with the italians mixing it up with the fins
Starting point is 00:48:29 today i think if sweden's going to build on something it's got to be that now i gotta ask you guys this there was sorry there was one more element oh good i wanted to talk about with sweden the i i almost wonder if the swedes looked past the italians because when the italians got into scrums with them there was like an there was an indignance on the players faces like who the fuck are you like i can't believe i'm wasting my time on you buddy buddy i'm here i'm i'm here i'm on the schedule we're playing each other if they look past the italians then they lose to the fins what does that say about them nothing good you lost the game you were looking past the other one to go play like i this morning's lost like that was really shocking to me yeah i was surprised
Starting point is 00:49:18 are you on the side that maybe this group is a little tighter or that slovakia is better or like where do you side is the group just mid to quote pierre dorian slovakia is a team like they're they're like i don't think that's how he meant it no but they're acting but that's how he thought he meant it so you know what i'm saying better than i thought uh sweden is worse than i thought clunky italy's better than i thought finland's about can i can i tell you who sweden reminds me of oh toronto maple leafs damn it's it's literally the same bunch of guys not doing a whole lot and the offense running through willie and and i i then then you look at slovakia and the way they're playing and you know your eyes love koski the reason he went number one was because of his
Starting point is 00:50:04 olympic performance in 2022 he's amazing he's got he got another couple goals today um they did just barely get by the italians whatever my but they won they won did you win it was a little close at the end there it was close it was close and i was by the way i just want to say heartbroken for thomas larkin who i believe was born in canada but um he had he pulled a bit of a mitch marner montreal canadian series right where it was 30 seconds to go the goal he's out of the net and he he is literally face to face with the boards and just you know fired the puck up and it went into the stand they have my ultimate respects already 100 i the over under we were talking about the over under jess i didn't think they were going to score a goal
Starting point is 00:50:47 and uh i think we set the over under at what three two and a half it was a two and a half because i didn't think they were going to score three goals either one they've beaten and they've got four so i i cannot believe it yeah i cannot believe it yeah it's jimmy and clara didn't play today did he no he did he did he got in because the starter goal goaltender got injured but Dini I didn't want to try and say so Clara and Fadini have both played both
Starting point is 00:51:10 games it's it's what a tournament so far it's like two days two guys did I say this already two guys on the Italian team over six five one of them is the captain Thomas Larkin the other
Starting point is 00:51:19 one's Damian Clara the goalie hilarious that they're all tiny go ahead Maddie also we have to acknowledge for Clara breaking the most shots in a game record with 60 in his first
Starting point is 00:51:28 just unbelievable performance by him he didn't get the full 60 though he didn't get the full 60 but he got pretty he was on the pace to get there and he was injured in the middle of the game so uh i just want to shout out him he's unbelievable goalie 46 saves in 46 minutes i think 46 yeah yeah it's insane that's a great that's so crazy yeah the whole tournament is either ducks or ducks players
Starting point is 00:51:53 or ducks prospects or wild players and wild prospects in net that's the whole and that's without leo carlson yes can i ask you guys this this all of this talk about you know the italians and we're talking about finland and sweden what the hell happened with finland versus slovakia the only thing i can think is first off slovakia is clearly better than we thought and we didn't sleep on them slav slav is a he's a big game guy internationally um if finland can play like that against sweden that tells me slovakia can too and when that game comes up which is tomorrow morning i'm going to be very curious to see what kind of swedish team shows up because you if you're if you're sweden and you lose today you got to be looking at game
Starting point is 00:52:40 tape today for tomorrow who are they playing slovakia slovak you need to kill them but But Slovakia is already 2-0. Slovakia, you got to think that those guys are young enough and hungry enough to go, what if we just went 3-0? And Sweden should be good enough that it doesn't matter how good or hungry you are, we'll kill you. That's how deep their team is. And if they don't, I mean, it's kind of difficult
Starting point is 00:53:08 to envision them doing anything at this tournament. They've got to be the most disappointing team. So far, yeah. Have to. yep after this morning no question no question yeah yeah that's why they're the story i mean that's why we're talking about them so it's the thing with canada should be a gold medal contender we had a big chat about the canadian women's side after the usa game they look pretty good against finland the other day afterwards right jesse yeah they did yes um there's not much of
Starting point is 00:53:35 a story people are like oh why are you guys always so negative there's not much of a story when a team's just winning yeah just oh hey they're perfect isn't this guy great isn't that guy great like here no let's extend the Canada segment yeah and then Suzuki came in he's like and then Horvat is like crush and then come on guys um I would enjoy that yeah I would you know what and then Marner backhand and Stone's like I like your Michael Bay from South Park impression here is it weird cheering for Marner again I've always cheered for Marner whenever he's worn a leaf i don't know why anyone oh good guys guys it's not hard this is whatever if he wears the leaf doesn't matter the color yeah let's go mitch it is it is was it weird
Starting point is 00:54:21 looking at austin being like boo no no last year was practice ah yeah no it's a little bit like that uh that ted lasso scene where uh their their buddies or whatever their teammates on whatever the hell the name of the team you don't like ted lasso right i've never seen it okay so i don't know if i like it or it's okay it's a little it's not as good as everybody says it is oh it jumped the shark but yeah but there's they're they're playing club games and then uh two of the players are going to play against each other in international play i think one of them's canadian one of them's mexican yeah and that's the guy that i love football yeah i love football is life and he's just so friendly and the guy's like hey man we're gonna have fun he's like
Starting point is 00:55:03 i'm not your bro when we play you are my bitch and you're like oh my god they swear in ted last oh yeah i know well it's really out of character which i think was the whole point but um because this guy's like a golden retriever puppy all the time and then he all of a sudden turns dark on yeah no so like yeah no when matthews has the jersey i like on yeah i'd like to talk about team hooray second go team when he's on the other team screw you dude hey you like a good clean shave and you don't want to spend a gajillion zillion billion dollars on it no harry's might be for you yeah so harry's is great because they've actually gone into detail about not just making your razors less expensive but you know when you get those multi-blade razors
Starting point is 00:55:48 and they get clogged every single time you run it down your face yes yeah harry's doesn't really do that that much because they engineered it so there's enough space for the hair to be washed out no clogging and also uh why are we spending thirty dollars for eight refills not with harry's okay and we want to give you a deal i'm going to get to that in a second but i what i love is this they've just launched their most advanced razor ever and it's still cheaper than a gillette fusion five if you don't love your shave as well harry's is going to make it right no questions asked risk-free trial means there's zero downside to giving it a shot and here it is for a limited of time our listeners can get harry's free trial set for ten dollars that's it at harrys.com
Starting point is 00:56:31 stp this set includes the all-new harry's razor uh that's a harry's plus razor excuse me one refined five blade cartridge two ounces of foaming shave gel and a travel cover to protect your blades on the go that's too good of a deal like i'm uncomfortable with giving this to the audience we should only be giving it to us and keeping it within our like charge them a little bit more yeah maybe we'll get a sales sales commission rip off harry yeah just rip them off go to harrys.com slash sdp to claim your offer and after you purchase they'll ask you where you heard about them please tell them you said you say sdp or steve dangle podcast all right thank you so i had a really great stream yesterday thanks to everybody that tuned in uh had a ton of yanks
Starting point is 00:57:15 on the screen or on this on the on the thing on the chat and they were all like a riot just are we bringing that back what yanks i'm just calling yanks i don't think it ever left yeah okay sexy never left steve okay a bunch of southerners watching this like damn right damn right we're yanking um the the you know every time the usa scores the chat's like play free bird there's a bunch of eagles and stuff it's fun but what i thought was so interesting about the fan side of things so much has been made guys about the fact that you know uh cole Caulfield's not there Jason Robertson's not there JT Miller is there that I think American fans almost got into a bubble of oh we're actually bad and what I wanted to remind people and I said this
Starting point is 00:58:02 30 minutes into the game it was kind of it was not evenly matched Latvia was playing hard but America hadn't really like wowed anybody the second half of the game America took control and what was amazing was watching the the american fans after the first period was over and they're like this team sucks what the hell did we do chris drury bill garen stan bowman you should all be fired this is horrible the negativity was insane i was like man i feel like i'm watching leaf fans here and i said to them like guys like i know that robertson's not there and this team is undoubtedly better with him on it but might i suggest that you look at the top six oh it's ridiculous it's crazy nine top nine like and listen jt miller's not a bad player i don't know
Starting point is 00:58:48 why he's in a defensive role on the fourth line not a defensive guy but whatever i look at this and i'm like sometimes you guys have got to remember that this team's still fucking awesome yeah it's a great team and brock nelson fourth line center did score three goals yesterday one of them was held back and also nelson was unreal he was great he's having a crazy seat yo can i just say this i said last year at the deadline i hope the leafs get nelson and what they ended up doing was pay if they had paid if they had paid the islanders the first round pick and the prospect they could have given him two prospects it's i would have been happy grabenkin minton and a first rounder for nelson i do that in a heartbeat nelson is the highest scoring goal
Starting point is 00:59:31 score since like january start it's uh this guy's great that trade to colorado has gone from one of the wildest overpays last year to abs fans laughing about it worth every penny yeah have a nice career callum richie we're good yeah i mean he probably will and i assume that pick is going to be pretty decent too but like for the window that colorado has right now like yeah it's hard to feel bad about that he was excellent and i think team usa like if you're a fan guys his team's still great i agree but let's get over the fact that robertson's not there let's move on and let's talk about the fact that right away the kachuks are a factor brady first goal jesse that's that's the best line that they have going oh it's like brock nelson might have been the best individual player
Starting point is 01:00:20 but when the kachuks are on the ice with eichel in the middle they're dominating like every second they're on the ice it's unbelievable to watch something i noticed too because i don't think matt kachuk is is skating at his previous level just yet like you got to remember he's had some pretty severe injuries but there he or brady i think was brady created a turnover that surprised the latvians and it was at near the top of the latvian defensive zone so the usa is on offense here they create the turnover and the puck goes behind brady jack eichel is two or three strides past the blue line power turns immediately grabs the puck and it leads to their their second goal as a line and i think with matt kachuk's ability and we talk about him you know you love his the
Starting point is 01:01:05 matt kachuk like i'm gonna punch you in the face or whatever he's he's got a great vision for the game right he's brilliant oh yeah and i think having maybe his skating isn't quite what it will be when he's fully healthy jack eichel's is like 110 i didn't know he's unreal he's no he's hitting other gear that's one of my like white whales is jack eichel through the neutral zone is as good as anybody it's like mcdavid and then him and i think the reputation he got in buffalo i think it's gonna stay with him for the rest of his career because he should be in the upper echelon of players and that sort of conversation stanley cup winner first line center and everything he does on the ice like when you watch those little things he's as good as anybody with his
Starting point is 01:01:51 skates it's unreal yeah and i i said to i said on the stream yesterday i'm like let's i went through the the the team usa olympic roster to try to convince these americans that their team is actually good and i was like listen there's probably 10 to 12 hall of famers right now on that team like if their careers keep going the same way they're going and that entire first line i think is one of them that what what would what they're able to create you're not i'm looking at it yeah no well and that's that's okay probably a good like michael and matthew i think you pencil in right now for the hall of fame yep and if brady honestly both kachuks dude i think so brady's got to do something he does he does i'm not i'm not willing to give him that just yet
Starting point is 01:02:30 no it's valid he's got to do so it's not the hockey hall of pretty good that's valid but you look at um matthew hockey all of we know your family uh then i have bad news oh yes it is that's exactly what the hockey is all a favor but but to me it's their defense look at their defense yeah look at the defense is if like is there anybody back there with the exception of maybe noah hannifin who's noah hannifin's great but i don't know if is he a hall of famer i don't know uh he's he's he's probably close he's a tier behind the rest of the guy like warrensky's are we putting brock faber in the hall of fame all right not yet my hughes yes yo my whole thing was if their careers continue on the trajectory they're on yeah because sanderson's pretty young
Starting point is 01:03:17 too yeah but like listen warrensky is your third pair righty it's that's insane very ridiculous Quinn Hughes was unbelievable, unbelievable yesterday. He was so good. One of the funniest players to watch all 60 minutes of the game, which is a skill. Like, I'm talking about the moments he's on the ice. He's very fun to watch. And then the moments he's on the bench are almost more entertaining.
Starting point is 01:03:50 What are you doing, Steve? Steve is staring. People listening can't. where people's like oh oh he sees the ghosts again like the memes of him on the bench when he just zones out i need to know what he's doing quinn yeah i i think he's just got that resting confused face he's done too many interviews for no reporter to have ever gone like why do you do that so yeah that's kind of true what are you doing interview he did where they asked him like if you weren't playing hockey what would you be doing and he just shut down the question he's like
Starting point is 01:04:20 that's that's not a reality so like i don't even know what i'd be doing like because he doesn't know he doesn't he literally can't envision the idea of not playing hockey he couldn't answer the question he's hockey's vince staples but not kidding like yeah he's he's a completely interesting enigmatic guy i interviewed him when he was a rookie and i i wish i got him a few more years into his career i i do because like i just feel like that could have been great is there is the reality we live in right now one that quinn hughes is underrated um like i can see that i know we all know that like he's won a norris trophy he's one of the best but what he does offensively and like driving the play and controlling the puck in the offensive zone it might be underrated
Starting point is 01:05:14 and how dominant he truly is and how he changes a team from the defense position. It's interesting. Everybody already knows. Jesse, I think with hardcore hockey fans, they're going to call you crazy. With passerby fans, fans that maybe watch 20 games a year, I don't think they understand.
Starting point is 01:05:32 I don't think he's, I don't think Quinn Hughes has quite the brand recognition he deserves with a hockey fan with a normal life, which is somebody who can't watch every game. You know what I'm saying? canucks fans went to bat for him so ridiculously hard well they should yeah they were right to yeah and avalanche fans had to go to war with them and then they're like now he's in your division stupid here you go and it was like oh i was baptized in this mccarr is the best defenseman
Starting point is 01:06:00 in the league but that doesn't mean quinn hughes isn't amazing i think mccarr and hughes have a bit of a mcdavid mckinnon thing going on where one is clearly regarded as above the other but there are times where you're like maybe and there are definitely times where i don't even know if it's maybe it's like yes emphatically yes nathan mckinnon's better right now and then mcdavid comes and he goes nope nope that's my torch thank you very much and he just takes it back there are days where quinn hughes is the best defenseman on the planet it's just i think the argument is how many of how many what percent of days is that right it's also it's so interesting the hockey the sport itself in that like one person can't affect the game like in all these
Starting point is 01:06:45 other team sports we watch where like hey you got the best player usually going to come out with the best result and they're going to have championships to show that and with mcdavid like he doesn't have the winning the stanley cup part of his resume as nathan mckinnon does right and like quinn hughes is stuck on pretty bad vancouver teams for a while and can't do the winning on his own but it's if he's a quarterback on a different team if he's a quarterback in the nfl maybe quinn hughes is able to will his team to a championship he's one of the most influential players on the ice and like it's crazy it's crazy that they put them together because i remember at the four nations i was like they could just have a pairing of quinn hughes and charlie mcavoy at the olympics if they wanted to
Starting point is 01:07:27 and then they stuck them together i'm like oh yeah yeah it's uh i'm i'm still not jacked about the way team usa looks maddie can you bring up usa defense again which is a compliment by the way yes so um first off hughes mcavoy slave and faber uh sanderson rowinsky and hannafin all dressed lacombe is the guy sitting on the bench um i don't know how lacombe ever gets into a game with those guys up front but i also want to say this and this will not make me popular in montreal i get why they didn't bring hudson and it's because they already have what hudson brings but more developed and it doesn't mean hudson's not going to be the star of this team in 2030 but i look at rowinsky i look at uh hughes i look at sanderson and i'm like they're just a little
Starting point is 01:08:17 bit older coach knows them more jesse please feel free to jump in and tell me how wrong i am so that you curry more favor with the montreal canadians you've been building your your xp up with them but i i like i get it now the one thing and i love jackson lacombe i think he's phenomenal the one thing i do have to say is i do find it interesting that when seth jones couldn't make it hudson wasn't the next man up i find that fascinating and i think that's maybe a message like maybe don't say what you said publicly well there is that bill guaven bill that that was a message sent more than anything i mean he wasn't even invited to the camp like it was crazy and i think that's erasure that's wrong but this defense corps is crazy that was
Starting point is 01:09:02 under talked about and i never want to hear about how like you can't win in canada ever again lane hudson's dad did a weird in car marathon interview from a car with grant mccagg with grand mccagg called bill garren bill guaven and talked about like dual citizenship insulted the gm we got like 40 minutes out of that oh it was awesome content yeah more out of that than they we covered that more than basically any mainstream outlet at all yeah i don't know why nobody wanted to talk about it it's super i think it was really awkward for people like in who know these guys are like in the game they're like we don't want to talk about to give it more energy because it's really weird that this is happening there's this weird thing where they're like well don't talk
Starting point is 01:09:51 about families okay i agree asterisk what if the family does a weird little phone interview from the car for 45 minutes where they refer to the gm by the wrong name and talk about dual citizenship because they're shitting their pants over their son anyway i don't know hey listen i feel like you're the only one talking about anything a lot of people chose to leave it alone we kind of pointed out how exactly weird it is yeah no it was incredibly weird i will say this if lane hudson wants to get a canadian passport i'm thrilled to have mon team canada hey sounds great i i understand what you're saying though so like he seems to be the obvious quinn hughes replacement but like if quinn hughes let's say gets hurt tomorrow whatever uh i would you have warrenski i would throw
Starting point is 01:10:41 warrenski up there yep and then you bring in hannifin or lacombe and well let's have a merry christmas play hannifin did play right sorry i'm like i'm like looking at the pairs yeah no you simply bring in lacombe and figure out the third the other thing is um like look by the way you know i i understand why people would be surprised by lacombe and i think part of that is the fact that he plays in anaheim plays for the ducks and lane hudson plays for the montreal canadians and you know there's a bigger fan base in montreal than there is in anaheim um but uh lacombe's phenomenal i think people don't understand how good he is at the defensive part of being a defenseman yeah i'd say like his game is more matured at this point than
Starting point is 01:11:23 layton hudson's is in his own end yeah like any kills penalties to the combs a very useful player when you already have warrensky hughes faber sanderson the guys to do the offensive side of the stuff out of defenseman that like you'd rather bring a guy who's better at defense and yeah can i can i point something out lane hudson is over a point per game yeah it's stupid his offensive abilities he has 58 points in 57 games 10 of them are goals so like he's found his goal scoring touch too this kid's a monster i just see i've just seen something very interesting a finnish outlet called helsagen sanomat reporting that finnish players are not happy with their head coach either anti-peninan following the four nations tournament they
Starting point is 01:12:12 actually lobbied um uh the national program to get paul maurice in as the head coach what's that rules give me that can you imagine oh my god uh ketos to all our fans love the swami there's got to be a language barrier thing that prevents these countries from doing that i don't know i i guess yeah jess you you all know i'm swami down because that that'd be the way to go if you if you truly just want to get a really good head coach you go higher like spencer carberry to coach sweden but i assume they just want some guy who speaks that these guys are in the nhl they speak english yeah i mean denmark's head coach is a swedish guy we already told you that italy's head coach is a finnish guy yeah you know that's not
Starting point is 01:13:04 that happens and it happens in internationals all the time like not just italy's locker room probably speaks more languages than any other locker room at this tournament yeah and the main one's english yeah yes because half the dudes are from bc i was thinking that watching the game i was like what language do they speak on the bench how many of them know no italian at least oh yeah maybe half yeah yes like it's a little bit of commendatory that episode of the sopranos bon giorno yeah mike the fact that their center is michael bradley their top top scoring guy is michael bradley and their third is dominic decoco that's crazy what are we doing uh i thought that was a very interesting uh little piece to add in there so yeah team usa looks like they're pretty
Starting point is 01:13:53 damn good i want to talk um a little bit about the rest of their division though because uh the germans looked pretty damn good in their opener that leon dry sidle um uh backhanded tip was against denmark did you see that goal number three uh no because olympic highlights are impossible to find you're not allowed yeah you can only watch them on the networks you can't put them online and whatever um so the ioc are a mob so stutzler here's what you need to know brutal brutal tim stutzler and leon dry saddle are driving the germans right now and i'm gonna i'm gonna be honest with this i think the germans have the best looking jersey in the entire tournament it's always been pretty good it's this one though pops there's a picture i just
Starting point is 01:14:42 didn't say it in front of my grandparents of there's a picture yeah fair enough there's a picture of um leon dry sidle walking out and he's got his helmet off and he's got the jersey on and they shoot him up like it's an usher video and i'm like god damn that man is handsome and the jersey looks amazing like it's they really knocked out of the park i also like the finished jerseys they're really nice i think my favorite is the usa jersey it's always so classic it looks so classic like it it looks timeless like you throw that on in any year of any era it's always gonna look good and i think they nailed it can i ask you though jesse because you've seen the the homes in a ways i didn't like the whites as much as i like their blues oh no i love the white you like
Starting point is 01:15:24 the white yeah yeah i love the whites okay it feels like the whites feel to me like we're going back to like the 80s of american jersey yeah which that was the point yeah accomplished yeah so like i don't know i i love the german ones though i think you're very right and sharp they look really good canada if we want to talk about jerseys i think has one of the worst of the tournament i think i like it i like the industrial looking leaf is weird the black one especially i think it's strange why don't the stripes go all the way around the back that's weird the stripes just end on on on the jerseys i i don't like canada's jersey this is frustrating as we look across at where the cameras are and maddie is wearing one of the best jerseys yes ever had
Starting point is 01:16:09 the four nations leaf and that jersey is beautiful it's and they've gone very backwards is that because they can't use that or no is that because they can't use it because that was an nhl yeah they can't use that at all yeah okay that's a fanatic jersey the um the ones made by no no you stay snug as a bug she's bringing it she's throwing it hold that y'all know maddie's canada down let's go she's four nations down yeah look at oh yeah oh look at this there you go oh look at this oh it's big they should have brought that she's taking it back they should have found a way um i so germany's an interesting one because you know you look at the uh and by the way if you go i keep going to the uh to spark for this because um it really helps me decipher the group
Starting point is 01:17:01 stages and that sort of thing for the men's and the women's um bring up the group standings there um when you look at um when you look at group c like usa has the easiest go but germany usa is going to be interesting i don't know that it's going to be particularly close because i think the u.s defense is just so good i think germany if you look at the entire seating there's a pretty good chance that you know we all thought they'd probably be like sixth or seventh seventh at worst germany could sneak into like the top five here do you think especially if sweden falls out do you think there's a usa germany upset it's hard to imagine hard to envision that i mean if you know what that group like yeah usa should run away with it but like
Starting point is 01:17:51 there's deceptively no easy out i guess there's no easy out at these olympics apparently but like germany you can't sleepwalk through that game at all denmark you should run over you should that should be a five two but like all three of these teams can get saves yep which is the biggest thing in a tournament like this um and the way grubauer's playing this year yeah no no i i like the german team i think germany might be a might be a sleeper to like and again this is what international hockey so different from they can meddle they can meddle they could well i the i'm just thinking just the seating forgetting the forgetting the uh the bracket stuff but you know international so different right because in the nhl it's like oh wow good for you you moved up
Starting point is 01:18:37 one spot in the standings year over year no one gives a shit um in in international hockey it's like well latvia got five more goals at this tournament than they thought they would they didn't but that's a huge deal right so germany moving up from i have them in sixth let's say sweden and slovakia go sideways slovakia could move up in the top six sweden could fall out finland didn't look good against slovakia like if germany has a really strong group stage here we could be looking at a slovakia germany top six no you don't think so no i i'm just smiling because i love the olympics because i had you ever laugh at your own thoughts yeah yeah i earnestly had i was like yo slovakia germany would be a great game and that's just a silly thing to say
Starting point is 01:19:24 i love the olympics yeah gary bedman should be in jail probably all right for taking this uh alan would probably say worse than jail he should probably be in jail though for taking this away from us for 12 years alan would say it like a lawyer he would ask it in a question i mean would you put someone in jail if well would you not agree that went through the process and we discovered that yeah anyway people were getting me to yell triple hard cap the other day too because my voice is getting so raspy i'm like you actually sound like him now the triple um heart no yes i have too much lubrication in there i need to dry it out yeah you do like you put a blow dryer on it yeah and then i'll be yeah i'll just go outside and breathe the air
Starting point is 01:20:09 for three seconds did you see the heartwarming thing with germany leon drysaddle's playing with his childhood friend oh i didn't know that so from hayley salvian asked uh leon dry saddle about connecting on a goal with his childhood friend frederick tiffles at the olympics we played these moments on the street together and dreamed of this to uh to get to experience this with him and play together and even connect on a goal is really special that's very cool you grow up playing street hockey with a kid and then you score a goal at the olympics together i think that's pretty cool steve and jesse how do you feel about flavor in the mouth i love that town yeah yeah you like sign me up you like flavor town yeah i'm first in line for that would you
Starting point is 01:20:51 go to mint flavor town yeah mango flavor town jesse yes berry citrus flavor town apple cider apple ice expresso expresso steven hey listen lucy breakers are 100 pure nicotine always tobacco free lucy breakers or nicotine pouches with an extra surprise because each pouch holds a capsule that can be broken up and can release extra flavor and hydration for you and they're the only pouch that gives you the long-lasting flavor whenever you need it get 20 off your first order when you buy on loan line with the promo code steve hey spell it steve s-t-e-v-e thank you steve is the promo code and if you don't want to wait just go to lucy.co slash stores and find a lucy near you to grab it today now here's the fine print lucy products are only for adults of legal age and
Starting point is 01:21:37 every order is age verified warning this product contains nicotine nicotine is an addictive chemical i think you're gonna like this too uh this morning in milan betman marty walsh and luke tardif so marty walsh being the head of the nation tardif and yeah luke tardif luke tardif uh head of the double ihf have all uh restated their commitment to international hockey and how important it is now here's what i want to say and this is where i get so annoyed with the nhl they own the nhl like world cup thing which we know is going to happen in 2028 and last time they did it they had the north american like under 23 team which was fucking loaded in retrospect it's crazy yeah they did okay and they had teams some of europe which boringly made it to the finals and got
Starting point is 01:22:24 fucking swept it sucked that they made it yeah because it was like there's just a an amalgamation of countries well as someone who was there it sucked that they made it because there were a ton of fins a ton of swedes wait you were at a game that wasn't the olympics but it was still i know so let me tell you about this no and there's like one guy in a slovak jersey who's like for like team some of europe it would have been better if like sweden or finland made it so this is when when we talk about international games like jesse you mentioned when we were talking about this before the tournament started the big thing for trinidad and tobago at one of the world cups was get a goal yeah just get a fucking goal the 04 world cup yeah just score italy playing
Starting point is 01:23:06 sweden was magic if you missed that game uh it's hard to go back and recreate that but them being tied with sweden at the 30 minute mark of the game it's insane was crazy insane and i get goosebumps thinking about it and i feel like i don't understand i don't understand why the nhl wouldn't do this and expand it like like listen we all know russia's coming back in in the next couple of years the double ihf has been signaling it we know that whether you agree with it or you don't they're coming sorry it's 2006 world cup 2006 correct that for everybody oh people gonna be so mad at you they're gonna come and fight 2006 there was no world cup in 2004 um there was the olympics though i think greece won oh soccer yes sorry i was like hockey wait no you
Starting point is 01:23:50 had it what are you doing i don't know sorry i think you got to go to 16 teams if you're gonna do this right and i want to see i want to see austria back in belarus and russia are coming back we know that it's coming um i want to see some of these teams like even 20 where you're like you get in italy you get a france you get a great britain like i want to see some of those teams play some of the other teams because all of these guys in this tournament are full-time professional hockey players this isn't like hey we pulled jim bob off the bus these guys are all really really in good shape they're paid well hockey's gotta stop at the international level and the nhl specifically has got to stop acting like we're small time to start acting bigger if
Starting point is 01:24:38 you don't start bringing more teams to this tournament you are not acting big when when you bring eight teams to world cup you're admitting to the entire world that your sports just not that follow it's podunk now you're not looking at this like gary batman uh i think the only non-swedish person in the building cheering for team sweden to beat italy was gary because it makes your product look stupid that these guys who are like middle six players in austria are tied right now with a team full of nhl stars but that's what international competition is yes no no no again you're looking at this like a cool normal fan oh you're not looking at this like the man who has held the sport hostage since the early 90s everything that doesn't benefit the nhl must
Starting point is 01:25:34 die and be set on fire that's how he looks at but this does benefit the end he doesn't look at it that way that that italian game was magic yeah that uh not that makes me not my grind that makes me a deeper hockey fan not my kind said gary he doesn't care if it makes you a deeper hockey fan he wants it to make you a deeper nhl fan and there is a distinct difference okay fair enough now i am fully on your side when this gets clipped and steve you're an idiot no i'm doing a gary impression stop it um i fully agree with you they're never gonna do it oh i hope that world cup in 2020 i hope i agree with you and i hope we're both wrong my point yep uh yep so pretty exciting tournament so far as we said uh steve's got the stream this afternoon so when
Starting point is 01:26:24 you're listening to this you probably would know more about the canada game you're watching canada yeah yeah exactly um oh okay good in terms of uh anything else with the tournament have i missed anything i thought i had everything because france hasn't made a lot of waves they've just been there well we talked about the canadian women losing a game that we were all concerned about but then they beat finland then they won five nothing we were all pretty happy about it i don't think that was ever the question though no is it it's not hey is team canada third best it's are we first best yeah they're they i think they're clearly second best right now at this tournament and the gap that the usa is creating in their women's program it seems to be growing
Starting point is 01:27:05 with the way they're growing the game in the states i think that's the issue i guess my question is how do we watch in a way that we enjoy you know what i mean because it can't just be they're not playing team usa every game you know what i mean and there you need to take joy in those games that you expect to win i enjoyed it yeah no i know but it doesn't seem like every fan is well you know what i mean that's what here's you can't win gold every game but you have but like you have to win that game to get to the gold medal game yeah you watch that game like every other game you're watching yeah i mean i'm confused about your viewing of the programs i got it's just when they lose it's disaster and when they win it's expected hey as it should be hey yeah but like
Starting point is 01:27:53 there's no joy behind the expectation for some people for some people i'm just seeing online i'm concerned about these people i want them to be happy i think you're telling on yourself yeah i think it's freaking sick that they win no no i think you're telling on yourself do you know why i think you got a blind spot what's the blind spot you don't cheer for a winning team and you never have damn and when you are a winning team that's how it is look at how drew reacts to a a three game losing streak with the avalanche he's like this fuck it blow it all up it's horrible because the x and they haven't won since 22 the expectation is wow what a win what a drought that i'm gonna text him right now condolences on the drought
Starting point is 01:28:36 when when um team canada in the in the u18s doesn't win every year it becomes a national story um now i thought they made improvements this year but ultimately it didn't happen for them and they got further but you know the reason people feel that way is because that's the expectation and as leaf fans we're not used to that we don't know what that's like listen no how do you think it'll be no edmund stevie cheers for a loser hey hey hey jess how do you lie though did he lie when when the Oilers lose to the LA Kings in the first round oh that's not gonna happen okay and Panarin scores Panarin sets up the winning goal to Adrian Kempe do you think Edmonton's gonna be like hey we should take joy out of the fact that we got to the playoffs
Starting point is 01:29:21 no they're gonna be like what do you mean we didn't make the finals yeah do you like the only team that will be okay doing less good this year is Florida first of all like well nobody played That's not going to happen because when Jim Hiller gets fired and they hire Sam Halam, Adrian Campe will not be playing. Oh, yeah. They're going to bench him. Sam Halam. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:29:45 We got to figure out how to say this guy's name. It's got to be Harlem or something like that. You know how Swedes are. I feel like Swedish fans would be like, say it however you want. We hate him. Yeah. Yeah. Disrespect his name.
Starting point is 01:29:58 Call him fire. But no respect on his name. uh steve with the the canadian women's team the finland game was really good because they they had a pretty good first period but the start of the second period finland comes out and they're playing with speed and that's the thing that worries me most about team canada's women's side is they can't play with speed and then like i don't know halfway ish through that second they clamp down defensively and just neutralized everything that finland was doing that was successful for the few minutes to start the second and then we got to the blowout of where
Starting point is 01:30:31 it should be which is how they're gonna win games right exactly the men's program i don't think is much different like if you look at how team usa is constructed versus team canada team usa is designed uh we're just gonna shoot the lights out no matter who is on the ice whereas canada is a little bit more trying to dictate the play through defense so i think the men's and women's programs are similar in that regard yeah and like that game you look at the individual performances and you say like kristen o'neill in that fourth line had a fantastic game and like troy ryan you should be playing them more which he's still not doing but you're taking away those things and you're like okay you're you're getting you're getting great performances here let's take the
Starting point is 01:31:16 good things you've done here translate them to the next competition you're gonna face uh whoever in the quarters uh germany on saturday and then when you get to the americans again hopefully you've built enough stuff up that like you won't look like the five nothing loss from two days ago jess i got a question yeah from your watching you know you mentioned last episode after the team us or the the team canada team usa game that you thought maybe they'd give somebody other than debier a start in net in in watching the finish game because she started again if i'm not mistaken she did yeah they went back are you are you more confident in her or does your opinion sort of stay the same i'm curious about that going in and coming out i kind of have the same position on
Starting point is 01:31:57 the goaltending it's pretty even uh between mashmeyer and debian i think either one of those is okay and so far they're leaning on debian i think that's fine i think coming out like your results i don't think hinge on goaltending debian was great against finland she made the few save saves that she has to make she made them it's so difficult for goalies in those situations where it's you're out shooting the other team 30 to 10 and you've got to make 10 saves sporadically over the course of 60 minutes yeah and it's usually a fuck up that leads to it exactly yeah breakaway yeah yeah yeah that those the only times that they're getting their opportunities so you got to be sharp randomly every five minutes to make one say you're just sipping water and oh yeah and
Starting point is 01:32:38 there was the first period i think they had their best or the second the they look dangerous but They didn't really get the shots on goal, but they were attacking a lot. And there was a couple rebounds in the first period that she did a great job on. So like Debian, she has my trust in that. Like if they're going to play their best against the Americans, she can be in that.
Starting point is 01:32:55 And I know it's against Finland, so it's not Team USA in terms of the talent pool, but did you feel like they played faster? Do you think they played a little bit more of... Canada did. Are they... Because the Scepters are also playing kind of slow too. So like, was the pace up a little bit?
Starting point is 01:33:10 I don't think they're ever going to play with too much pace. It's not really their game, but the way they're going to do things is when the teams are trying to break out that they're playing, it's you're shutting down the neutral zone, and they did a really good job with that.
Starting point is 01:33:23 What's Emma Malte face wash per 60 yards? A million. Yeah. Emma, she is often, when she's out on the ice, you always notice her. She's the hardest working player whenever she's on the ice.
Starting point is 01:33:36 Her legs are always moving, and if you want to learn, if you've got a kid who wants to learn how to play hockey, like watch emma malte because she's always how you exactly what you want out of your play if you're a coach you're like that girl's never gonna lose a puck battle she's always gonna be working and there's not a second of a shift she takes off she's great to watch i have a daughter who's also short and mean so tell her to model her game off emma malte and you notice because yeah she's the
Starting point is 01:34:05 smallest person on the ice i can't remember uh which game was it i think it was maybe the swiss game but i was like ah who is that they're being a dick ah that's awesome is is uh is your daughter uh kind of like every cat to dog video where like the cat might be smaller but they smack the dog around yes with leo yes yeah with everyone everyone okay me just dominates the family also they had no hitting and she just goes nah i think i'm gonna hit though stop it you're tiny and mean all right um now i wanted to ask this is completely a side of it but i i wanted it i did want to ask this question jesse nick castellanos was uh bought out castellanos was bought out by the philadelphia phillies yesterday yeah um after an incident and i i
Starting point is 01:34:56 didn't know this happened he was removed uh from a game in miami and cracked a beer in the dugout show and what and then dave dombrowski's finally like we got to get rid of this guy and he had he this is the last year of his deal i think uh this or last two years of his deal or whatever it is but he's he's in you know he makes 20 million a year and they're just gonna eat that and be like get out of here they can't there's no grounds for like contract termination there and you drank alcohol i'm sure i'm sure there was and he did apologize for it they don't want to go through it but i'm curious jesse that's hilarious on your thought on okay here's a guy that can hit has hit big games hit really well for the phillies up until this last year is this a guy
Starting point is 01:35:41 that an or the mlb general manager takes a chance on or did the beer drinking incident ruin his career i think the toronto blue jays locker room is such great vibes you do not try and risk it at all okay by bringing in castellanos even though if he is what he can be at the plate when he's not drinking beer it would be awesome for this lineup i think he would be a big help but uh no no stay away i don't know man why are you risking my vibes are always very high when i've cracked a beer at the sky dome i don't know is that a crazy story that's awesome awesome that's so funny terrible if you're on his team what a dick yeah that's so funny uh it didn't happen on the jays though so i think that's funny yeah there was also an incident in that that athletic
Starting point is 01:36:32 expose about his tenure with the phillies the end of it where one of his teammates wanted to take batting practice before one of their playoff games against the dodgers but he had his kid with him and he had the kid take uh bp against like one of the pitchers like the pitching coaches had his kid take batting practice ahead of one of his teammates who was trying to get early batting practice in before their playoff game oh so he's a fucking asshole man the one thing we don't talk about this a lot because we get the beer the teams were successful teams were successful but you look at those toronto blue jays teams from 15 and 16 there's a lot of dickheads on that team a lot of dicks it benefits some teams yes yes for a bit but like marcus stroman
Starting point is 01:37:24 was accused of that he told all the rookies to get out of the the the uh the weight room so that the veterans could work out batista donaldson yeah like it was not they were not no but but that was the vibe of that team yeah attitude and this is like the super friend time friends yeah they're and it's a little different yeah a little bit of a cuddly teddy bear i i think the 15 16 jays you sign castellanos oh yeah hell yeah crack a beer in the dugout what do you mean he cracked but we all we all got one on the go what do you think's in the cup make greg zahn head coach oh fuck oh no no gibby is the manager too yeah even yeah he he made up we could have just said gibby incredible anyway i wanted i had to hit that i think you you avoid that if you're
Starting point is 01:38:20 the jays the vibes are too high yeah okay all right yeah yeah and i don't know if i don't think he'd fit in well and i wondered that too but then i thought okay but they were supposedly talking to framer valdez too who like threw a fastball at his catcher's chest because he was mad oh yeah that's still one of the craziest things i've ever it's crazy that hurt his value like he cost him tens of millions of dollars yeah i mean that's sort of throwing the game yeah almost literally imagine if you played your heart out against the other team but once you also took a slap shot against your own goalie now would you be like no no you had a good game no no what he tried to score in his own net if you did that if you if you did that in game because you were
Starting point is 01:39:13 pissed at a goalie you never play a clapper at binnington just just pareko taking a clap bomb at binnington willie just gets pissed and you know what waller yeah i got something wires one right at his dome it seems like the move of jesus sanchez today is the move that ross atkins and co want to make which is like that's their potential power now are we going to get a jesse blake video breakdown i can do that yeah that'd be great blue dish trade must be done yes yes that will that will be coming sometime today all right well we'll wrap it up there one thing olympics stuff before we're done um the olympics it's been trending a little on twitter and instagram and places on social media yes i've also heard about the olympics
Starting point is 01:39:55 the olympics players who are saying their own name so if you go to every athlete's page on the olympics you can click their name and they will say their name for you And I thought it would be fun if Adam and Steve have any athletes they would like to bring up to hear how we should say their name out of their own mouth. Well, first off, the Finnish or the Latvians. You got to give me a point. I was going to say Latvia.
Starting point is 01:40:27 Okay, we can do a little of both because we'll do a couple of Finns. We'll do a couple of Latvians. No Swedish? I want... Oh, Sam O'Lam! I don't know if the coaches have to do it. That'd be amazing if he was like, whoa. It's only the athletes.
Starting point is 01:40:43 Sam Halam. Sorry, what? Only the athletes. Give me a hockey player. That sucks. Mikko Rantanen. Let's just do it. I think that's going to be Mikko Rantanen.
Starting point is 01:40:53 Mikko Rantanen. Here is Mikko Rantanen saying Mikko Rantanen. Mikko Rantanen. They dance. Mikko Rantanen. Rantanen. That's jumping jacks. Mikko Rantanen.
Starting point is 01:41:06 of one thing one that it might be fun uh because this guy is strange hold on hold on quinn hughes wow jesse whose name are you here here click it what why are you making i want to i want to see what how he says it wait what oh do i go now and that's the end of it quinn hughes oh quinn hughes okay it sounded like he had no time just for brat oh that's a good one excuse me it's brought brad brad brad brad brad well i remember when he came into the league i called him jesper brad people like it's brought you fucking idiot you call them brought today and i didn't correct i know because i was it was burned into my skull and now it's brad again jesper brad jesper brad jesper brad flag on the play
Starting point is 01:41:53 on the play i was calling him the right name then play that again devils fans we got beef play it again they've been yelling at us for years play it again and every time we say brought i go it's brat and i sound annoying because devil's fans are always on me let me see it's brought jesper brought jesper brought on behalf of adam the fuck new jersey understands that language hey uh it's true oh hey steve flipped off the camera who taught you the song of our people jasper bratt okay all right jasper bratt i've been lied to christopher's good yeah you gotta you gotta help me out with the spelling uh g and i'd be surprised if anything no first name oh christopher k-r-i-s-t-e-r-s k-r-i-s-t-e-r-s by the way i learned from a
Starting point is 01:42:51 latvian yesterday that most latvian male names end with an s most latvian female names end with an a oh there's a gendered sort of thing that they have in their language i did not know i didn't know that either that's why we love international hockey chris there's good last year chris that's good lefsky's chris that's good lefsky's yeah we pretty much got that yeah that wasn't that wasn't that good you guys you guys have been bad at this so far you're a slavkovsky oh i like that i'm kind of into that i also want you to do the goalie's name for uh slovakia i want to know if the italian guys like larkin larkin michael bradley okay we got that it's pretty standard can you do the goalie with the
Starting point is 01:43:39 halav halav halav hlavich hlavich uh slovakia yeah h-l-a-v-a-j h-l-a-v-a-j good job they should have the damn head coach who they're not an athlete whoa black oh yes they get a medal well we could just look up sam halam no yeah somebody will probably say his name sam no halam pronouncer sam pro halam nancy samuel halam samuel he just sounds like it just i'm just making him finish which is wrong and i understand whoa blackberry that'd be great if you just click it and he goes whoa blackberry stop here he is here all right slovakian goalie samuel hello hello i don't have the ability to make that noise with my mouth it feels like

Starting point is 01:51:42 a voice that'll pop your collar yeah oh yeah yeah yeah that was the good stuff that was the good stuff oh man anyway do you want to do some team france sure i find it extremely french name yeah how did we stumble on this bit i thought we were ending the show stumble i brought it to the table jesse's so good at games he's the best uh uh okay aurelian which is a roman emperor aurelian So, A-U-R-E-L-I-E-N. And I think it's Daier, D-A-I-R. Aurelien Daier. Boger should be our name.
Starting point is 01:52:21 From Chambéry? Chambéry? Chambéry. Aurelien Daier. A-U-R-E-L-I-E-N. All right. Parisian French is so pretty. yeah a little bit why are you implying that no like anytime i practice my duolingo french
Starting point is 01:52:46 on anyone they're like this no it's no it's not oh man going because it's france french thinking you know anything about french after learning quebec french the france french people will will correct you very quickly uh okay here's another one jesse his first name is florian f-l-o-r-i-a-n i don't know how to pronounce his last name but i'm gonna spell it for you he's on the defense number 62 for france ch he came up when i've been florian holy shit one of the few florians now he this is an italian french name there's lots of crossover right there's like you know there's swiss italian there's austrian italian like they're this is i think it's chica chica chively check yeah okay
Starting point is 01:53:31 everybody do their best shot at the last name and then we'll play his check it really i don't think that's italian no i don't think it's virgin that might be georgian yeah he's from france yeah but it still might be a last name oh yeah yeah that's true yeah okay jesse try it floja so you're saying it's not french i want to know how a french guy pronounces this you think it's an italian last name no i think i think it's georgian yeah you think it's georgian because veely is often georgian yeah i'm gonna say shakia veely okay shakia veely okay maddie maddie go for Chakya Chavili

Starting point is 01:55:39 uh could be uh could be that could be i'm just looking anybody on team canada it's philip forsberg send us off into a what's going on what about leaf great dennis mulligan or we could do brad marshans is brad marshall we could do oh no steve got it steve got it what we're bringing up bradley because he says marshall let's see this is this is a big point of contention amongst uh broadcasters in this country is it yeah some of them have been trying to make marshawn happen and some of them but he's from halifax so it's clearly the angular pronunciation oh okay brad marshawn brad marshawn marshawn that is the french he emphasizes it at the end it's marshawn people have been saying it wrong this whole career wow brad marshawn
Starting point is 01:56:30 i'm still right marshawn i'm switching are you brad marshawn why are players bashful about this like it's so true remember andreas johnson was a leaf and like a year or two in he's like can you spell my name different it's like why did that take they spelled your name wrong brother it's the thing on the jersey yeah that's your name important yes let please let us know man yeah the little juggernaut thing too oh yeah cool man cool lemon just say something man brad marchand brad marchand i like it now we know marchand brad marchand marchand brad marchand yeah now i feel stupid you know what uh brad there was one who was the guy that signed in minnesota with suitor parisa zach parisa so in one of the nhl games way back adam loves this
