the Dune 2 popcorn what what for anybody that doesn't know you've seen the Dune posters with that worm that looks like something from Tremors and it's got a whole bunch of teeth on it.

And people are about to risk it all for this popcorn bucket. You know what's amazing, Jesse? I did see this on your screen. I had no idea what it was. What is going on? What are you supposed to do? Are you supposed to stick your hand

through the thing to eat your popcorn? That's so annoying. Yeah. Do people keep those, by the way? Do people keep collectible cups? I think so. I have a collectible Marley's cup. That doesn't surprise me.

hey you know you're the collectibles guy like i have i have the i have a blue jays popcorn bucket you know and you do you really get the you get the hard plastic ones that you can just take home and do you do you use it for like cleaning supplies or like what do you use i don't know i don't even know where it is like you know he's just in the cupboard you know you buy ice cream at the blue jays game and it comes in a little hat i have i have a bunch of those little we have one in the uh studio one oh studio three there's the one a little hat sitting on the desk there one one christmas i got like this big metal tin of all different types of popcorn and once i was done eating the popcorn that's where i put all my toys oh in the really loud metal tin every time i

throw a toy away bang do any of the the other ones that you look at do they or that you have do they look like a flashlight or are they um no uh i'm just saying for the practicality of eating popcorn this is not how i want to eat popcorn i like taking giant handfuls of popcorn and this hole that i gotta stick my hand into is preventing me from grabbing popcorn one thing before you say anything steve jesse can you just hold your hand up a little bit like can we isos jesse's hand for a sec jess can you throw your hand up just like a high five high five like no spread them out spread them jesse there we go okay oh my god your hands are so big oh my god let's compare hands jesse's got zaddy hands and i'm just the reason i'm saying that is a guy like

jesse there's no way you could fit your hand through that there's no way oh no no that's that's like you'd have to like octopus it down it would be i think what adam's alluding to is uh having bangable collectors items makes me uncomfortable dude who came up with that is when you said dune to popcorn bucket i did have a moment to be like all right what would that look zendaya timothy chalamet like who what is what could it be never in a million years those are just words those are just like i know who those people are but like i don't understand the worship right um never in a million years did i think it would look like a um satan's fleshlight you said it's not in canada apparently not apparently it's only in the united states i think it's you know it's one of those

internet jokes that like it's such a hard time right now the economy sucks there's wars there's everything like this was one thing that everybody in their net could read could unite and go you know this is pretty funny we're doing this today this is a i think this this sparks joy i think it's nice when the internet goes nope this is what we're doing today also fantastic marketing oh like the best one of the best ways to do marketing right now is just go viral as a meme they must have known like i wasn't gonna go see this movie and now that i've seen this i'm still not gonna see it but i know about the popcorn biggest problem with dune 2 nearly three hours i'm in what are you doing i'm all the way in no i can't i can't sit down that long i'm in you can

sit down for three hours without like going to the washroom having to do something else no i can't i'm watching that at home if i'm watching if i'm watching a movie like that in the theater i i will like not drink water all day leading up to it like i won't even like i'll have like a headache because i will get up and pee in the middle so i don't want to miss anything i'm i i think because i'm like a big sci-fi fan uh when it comes to this stuff i have not been this excited for a movie in a long time somehow dune returned well did you watch the first dune uh it's been a very long okay the first dune is the 80s one's terrible but the the first dune is actually really good okay uh and then the second one is like the books are long like they're crazy born

was timothy chalamet born they were in the isn't they're in the movie first one came out like a couple years ago there was like yeah three years ago there was like an outcry about zendaya's uh times because she they they advertised her in the movie and i think her screen time is like two minutes and 45 seconds i was just looking up the actual runtime it's 2.7 hours i'm in 166 minutes i can't do that i can't sit in a theater for nearly three hours of my life um i watched napoleon last night which was another movie i was so excited about four hours it was it was it was long i think we were you're closing in on three hours and uh i gotta tell you um it started strong and it just there's just too much there you know certain stories are like this should

have been a tv show oh yeah it should have been an hbo that is i think someone at the movie studios was like listen if it's around normal movie length it's netflix only don't put it in theaters but now it's 2024 if you're gonna put a movie in theaters it's got to be impossible you need to wear a diaper to watch this thing yeah sitting 100 i don't get it yeah i don't i don't either i don't know i think napoleon's story is just too long it's just it's just too much so i i think they all did a good job acting it i just was like ah and there's a lot of stuff like it's such a weird funny thing because i asked natalie beforehand because i'm a absolute fucking nerd i was like what do you know about him and she's like she told me like uh he conquered a bunch of

stuff uh french like that's short he short which is actually a misnomer he was average height it was just british propaganda that portrayed him as short um but uh but that was it that's all she knew and afterwards i'm like half of this movie was like apocryphal it wasn't actually true it's just you're getting the idea of it i'm like this story is so good you don't need to make it up is that one of the most successful propaganda campaigns of all time oh yeah absolutely dude there were bugs bunny cartoons about how short napoleon 100 i remember it i remember it and i uh he was like five five and she's like oh but he was short then i'm like no but the average you've been in a house that's 100 years old the railings down by your kneecap yes i have been to britain

um so yeah so people were smaller it's the land of shower heads pointed at your chest i'm always uncomfortable when i'm there quick question about europe what is it with them and no water pressure oh no water why is it like it's just dripping out of the shower faucet what is that and no rhyme or reason for anything i've told the story before but i was in a pub in in england And I asked where the bathroom was And the instructions included going up And downstairs Oh yeah, because the buildings are like 400 years old

Right? Right, but did no one 400 years ago have any common sense? You gotta go up and then down What are you doing? Buildings changed hands 20 times What are you doing to me? There are pubs in Britain that are 400 or 500 years old I don't think I was in one of them

It was like a Denny's No, I'm kidding A Wahlburgers I was in a Wahlberg in Britain um okay so I want to ask this question and it's exclusively for Jesse okay Jesse Blake earlier this week I asked the question are the Edmonton Oilers the best team in the NHL right now and your answer was interesting but before I let you answer it the Oilers are now at 15 straight wins they need 17 to tie the Pittsburgh Penguins record 18 to beat it they're playing nashville this weekend jesse at that time we were talking about best team in

the nhl and your answer was uh i'll if i'm ranking the best teams i'll take the teams that have been doing it all season probably take boston winnipeg vancouver in some sort of order and then edmonton that's right and i gotta i gotta take jesse's side here sure they beat chicago and that's all that matters but they beat them by less than they ought to have right which means they're bad now producer drew uh because he loves doing this put out a a list and i'm i he tweets so damn much i can't even find it right now uh here it is the oilers have beaten during their current current 14 game win streak because this this was back before they'd won uh new york rangers who are seventh with jonathan quick in net philadelphia who are ninth surprising but good he put toronto

13th reeling he's right though LA Kings 14th 2-8 in their last 10 Detroit are 15th New Jersey 16th no goalie

Seattle 23rd had lost 4 straight Calgary 24th Montreal 26th Ottawa 28th Columbus 29th Anaheim 30th Chicago 31st

San Jose 32nd that's all on their on their recent on their recent winning streak and then of course

they have last night's win which was over Chicago go again adam are you familiar with the term chaotic good like where someone just creates chaos but it's for good that's true drew's chaotic bad like you're just you're just fuck it all if chaos i know memories are short on this show but they're not sure with the listeners that's for sure that's true if we want to go back and rewind to the earlier part of this season the vancouver canucks were on a heater yeah i would say and young adam wilde came on this show and

said quinn hughes is bad the one quinn hughes can't play defense and two who have they beaten and he yelled that from the mountaintops and it's a very similar argument to what the oilers um drew saying about the oilers and i think the correct response to that take as always is you beat the teams that are in front of you right you're the schedule isn't your fault and if you're winning the games you're doing good and to be fair to vancouver all i said was i want to see this sustained and they have yep that's all i said uh and i because i wasn't convinced after after five years of of mediocrity i think i'm allowed to be like you know what i'm not gonna make a decision after three months well and and how about um uh among the skeptics were canucks

fans oh yeah they were like hey this could all fall to earth but this is really and then it didn't it didn't and now they're happy and it doesn't look like it will i think we're rewriting history a little i think you could go back and you could check the tape sir but i do want to ask jesse are you sticking to your guns oilers are within three of setting the all-time record for wins straight in a season are you are you still going with a jets bruins or canucks team over them as the best team in the league yeah yeah i think just right now we need to see how the season plays out i think we talked about it last show but the the true marker of like who's going to perform well in the playoffs because i think that's that's going to be our determiner for like who's the

best team is when the second season starts and hockey changes who is successful in the playoffs and well a lot of that's going to come out in in the wash come the end of the season when we see who's hot at that point and then once we get to the playoffs we'll see how these teams fare in this this new different type of hockey the the team that we're questioning whether or not they can get it done in the playoffs just signed cory perry so great but can you get it done in the play also like straight finals we might be giving a little cory perry a little too much credit you know i think his his resume is what we're hanging on to but he didn't have like the greatest season chicago when he started he was uh he was third in team scoring i mean yes he's played more playoff

hockey over the last three seasons than basically anyone on the leafs has in their entire career i like him there even like even if his play isn't what it used to be just for like the mental toughness that he can show like he can teach mcdavid and and this guy like warren fogel you know teach him how to win in the playoffs like having that in your dressing room is going to be cool for them yeah dude uh i mean it's the regular season and you can still basically intentionally give someone a brain injury and get a suspension of five games or less imagine what happens in the playoffs we're actually going to get to that right now if you want to jesse i've sent a couple sorry unless you want to finish i don't know there's a couple

more things in the oil there's one thing about their winning streak that it's really cool is that uh they'll face nashville hopefully they win that game and they extend the winning streak and then they they have the all-star break and they come after the all-star break and they face the vegas golden knights and on the line against the defending stanley cup champions is the 17-game winning streak. So at that point, they can beat the Vegas Golden Knights and they can set the record there. What's cool about that is, one, this is defending Stanley Cup champion,

and two, it's the team that eliminated you last playoffs. So you have this giant revenge game where you can seek revenge on the elimination of the playoffs and against the Stanley Cup champions and tie the record for the all-time win streak. It's pretty cool. I think that game's going to be something to watch. Absolutely.

Now, we know this morning that Brendan Gallagher will not have an in-person hearing for his hit on Adam Pellich of the New York Islanders. We'll talk about the Islanders game in a second because I do think there's some other noteworthy things, but this is obviously the big story today. Now, Gallagher, Jesse's got, I got two different angles on it, Jesse, that I sent to you. I don't know if it matters, but I think you, by now, if you're a hockey fan, you've probably seen this hit. Basically, Pellich isn't looking. Gallagher comes across center ice it's the neutral zone and his elbow is up and it hits him right in the nose uh and Pelich's head snaps back he's on the ice he's shaken up and we still have nothing

and and this comes back to um an issue that we see time and time again in the NHL where there is no true standard for what hit equals what that is as blurry as that is um I just one day guys we're gonna be able to run clips on this damn network uh the that is like you like that's crazy that's on that's on par with like shit mac cook did oh yeah back in the day like that is look at that is he now jesse i can't tell from the screen is he off his off the ice too with his skates no okay his ice his skates are planted yeah it doesn't really matter i know but you know that would make it worse that would be icing on the cake i okay so remember a few weeks ago when uh we were talking about nick cousins and everything and the panthers and just running

amok and i was like okay the next player to get hit by one of those guys has to pretend that they're dead they have to pretend that they like call out the stretcher and blah blah blah everything uh like am i still crazy am i crazy i think the entire internet is wondering that today you have you got everybody attention everybody is going really really this is like there's not even no even habs fans are like yeah i'm really surprised too last last night oh no habs fans have been perfectly reasonable about it and like that's zero sarcasm like um no no i'm serious no they have oh like actually i'm serious yeah i mean there's always gonna be some idiots but most people are like yeah no that's pretty shit um and like jeff merrick tweeting like yeah we're not

gonna see brennan gallagher for a while it's four games a while or five even it's probably gonna be three jesus lord it's probably lord above in heaven are you like are you serious what are we doing here what are we doing here yeah like someone texted me and again again i bring this up i know i'm a leafs homer when it comes to this but i bring this up because it is still one of the least explainable suspensions based on the precedent that the nhl has set jason spezza versus the jets oh yeah oh yeah a thousand games played first offense six games and like yes there was an injury on the play yes it was intentional like it's bad it's bad came out of fucking nowhere and i sort of looked at it and i went all right well

every time a pet uh a play gets suspended the amount of games it ought to we go okay i'm fine with that as long as that's the standard going forward and it never is that's less than than the spezza one you're on drugs how much was perron perron was six games was it six yeah and i don't even think they're done the appeals process he had to sit the game yeah but i think it's it because from what we've heard from alan on publicly yeah uh they were just gonna continue to fight that until the end yeah they're still appealing for the check so yeah so they want the money back six games which was like intention to injure in the moment you know in the heat this would be something very similar with somebody in in this that was outside of play i guess so maybe but

like that doesn't make sense that this would be anything less than six there's no like sometimes you see a hit um there was one last night i'm trying to remember sometimes you see a hit and it's from behind and it's not a great hit the huberdell oh yeah yeah where he where he hit him and then he looked up and he's like ah i kind of just ran into him ah fuck like i don't think he meant meant to but he you're like oh i'm gonna lose the game i'm gonna lose i'm getting kicked out yeah and and that's one of those ones where you can't do it you should be punished but you understand how it happened yeah i don't understand how that happened no that's just a gallagher is going across the ice is like i'm gonna hit this guy in the head with my elbow well it's just a

player being completely irresponsible yeah if you want to look up something interesting and to compare and contrast jason spezza taking a run at uh which winnipeg jet was it uh where he did the flying knee it was neil pionk or josh morrissey i can't remember and you know spezza um absolutely runs him over it was neil pionk and rightly got six games for that nobody appealed nobody tried nobody protested it was his first offense never even been fined i believe i protested because i'm like dude you you take these things into account until the moment you don't and and drew is saying if you go back and you look at nazim qadri in the playoffs for the avalanche the first year he was there. Third year in a row, he

got suspended. Same hit against the St. Louis Blues. Justin Falk. Yeah. Same hit. It was eight games. It was eight? Yeah. For Padre? Yeah, well, so with that one, you have to take into account it's the playoffs, but it's also Nas. So you have,

you grade on a curve one way because it's the playoffs, you grade on a curve the other way because it's a repeat offender. Brendan Gallagher, I couldn't believe this when I looked it up, has never been suspended. it oh good for him i mean the type of game he plays i think he's been fined and it's chippy but he's never been dirty so i'm not like we're not like saying brendan bett gallagher bad guy like it's just it was a shitty hit the playoff games mean more that's what that's what i'm saying

okay i'm saying it goes one way one way because he's a repeat offender it goes the other way because it's a playoffs i mean look at that yeah no this eight game suspension uh for on nhl standards is a 16 regular season game suspension because playoff games are worth two that they say which when you consider it was what the third playoff run in a row or something like that when you consider that yeah you need to sit you need to have a seat sure but i don't think 16 or eight playoffs equals four regular season that gallagher is gonna get yeah it should be more and it's not very similar like the way the way the hit happens and he comes across and he just elbows him in the face like it's not dissimilar to the hit and like pellick is he has

a concussion history yeah uh same hit dude what are we doing here what are we doing here as a league yeah falk had the puck at least falk had the puck well yeah he just he just shot it pellick it was so far after like he did they they make the play and it goes up the boards but then galler just just keeps going you know it's ridiculous so one of the it's one of the rare instances where the whole hockey world went that's fucking bullshit like even cousins good branson there was some wow wow wow like there's always going to be a little wow wow wow and that's where the lack of suspension comes from or you know it's not very much or it's a fine i've never seen the whole hockey world united that guy's getting suspended immediately and he is by the sounds

of it but it's it's not even going to be the biggest suspension of the season i what perron did was inexcusable like even if you're like well he saw the red mist he wanted to stick up for his teammate he hit the wrong guy um this is way worse are you joking are you it's at least on par minimum on par and the hearing is today so we're gonna get some answers yeah the the interesting thing with cadre is that amounts to a 16 game suspension by the nhl just said that sorry and so i guess my point is that i'm like the the what i'm trying to understand is what are the reasons and i think that's everybody's question what are what are you grading this on uh i know nazem cadre was a repeat offender and brandon gallagher is not i know he worked cadre was a three-time

repeat offender at that point in the playoffs although it's debatable some of those hits because i could have sworn i saw them in other series against other teams i'm wondering uh what the nhl has to gain at this point from not having any standards on this i just don't know and and we gotta the one thing the nhl really needs to do that they refuse to do and this goes for any player brendan gallagher aside is you have to minimize these hits to the head you have to do this for well-being you must do this if there was any hit so far this season where you need to set an example and throw the book at it and say this can't be in our league this has to be number one it has to be because you don't it doesn't that didn't even affect play like it doesn't do

anything like even like given i i don't think people liked that um um nick cousins got nothing for his hit on valimacki and that's valid criticism but zucker should get three games for intentionally hitting a guy from behind and sure sure during him you can't do that and the league sent a message here's three games you can't do that i mean this just is so much worse now it's so much worse and i mean if a guy if you're looking at zucker and suspending him for intentionally injuring a player which make no mistake is exactly what happened that should be more than three games yes he intentionally injured a player cousins i don't think has played since he intentionally hurt a player he got a concussion he's i think started skating

and you suspended him for let me let me three divided by 82 you suspended him for 3.6 percent of the season yeah what are we doing one of the main things you said there adam i think that's really important, is that it has nothing to do with the game of hockey. Going across the ice and elbowing someone in the head is so far outside of making any type of hockey play that it's ridiculous that

you don't throw the book at them. What do you want, producer? I'm saying, if Pellick was to stretch it off the ice, is this more than five games? That's Steve's theory, that you've got to pay off the hospital workers. You've got to pay off the ambulance, get them in the building, everybody's got to

die, and then put them in, and then you're gonna get games yeah and and you know what you got more integrity for being the one who hurts people all right well i'm gonna be i'm gonna throw all integrity out the window and be i'm hurt guy and lay there like i'm dead 20 minute stoppage in the game try to pick me up and my muscles won't work i'll pretend i'm unconscious yeah oh like what do you gotta do to grab this league by the fucking collar and be like take this shit seriously some something we all whisper about it and say it something genuinely repugnant is going to happen on the ice one day and we're all going to wonder where it came from i don't think we're going to wonder no it's it's going to come

from years and years and years and generations of not giving a general vague fuck about player safety we we don't care yeah we don't care it's gonna be i think you should leave with tim robinson the hot dog guy with the hot dog car. We're all looking for the guy who did this. The NHL is going to be in the hot dog suit and the hot dog car is going to crash into the house and they're going to be standing around and be like, who did this?

And we're all going to vilify the person who does it. And I mean, we ought to, but like, I don't know. We're going down a dark- I do want to say this. I think, you know, one of the things that, you know, that has been a big topic of conversation in the last decade in hockey is the role of fighting and and so uh there we've been accused of being anti-fighting we've been accused it's not the fights oftentimes that cause these things

when we talk to on on agent provocateur chris nowitzki who uh was a pro wrestler um is now ahead of the concussion research uh group i think it's out of i can't even remember it's out of like harvard it's amazing what this guy's done and you know he said it's the repeated blows to the head it's the repeated ones that don't even register as a concussion themselves i'm willing to bet that one register 100 but what i'm pointing out is that you can keep fighting in the game there's a risk factor to it but you can keep fighting in the game um hits to the head it's it's literally not doing anything it's not helping things doesn't boston university concussion legacy foundation and he's that interview is spectacular by the way and this is the point this is the

point is it's like it's not i don't want the league to be soft i love hockey i love how violent it is i'm into that i stand up on my feet when people start fighting in the arena i still do i i did it at the minnesota wild game when ryan reeves had one of his two good games this year okay that's fine old jelly knees but i'm saying what i'm saying is this kind of stuff this kind of stuff is the stuff that affects people's lives long term and it's like it just doesn't add anything to the game and i'm not going after brennan gallagher this is a first time offender he lost control shit happens it's hockey but this is where you do have to throw the book and that's whenever the next regime is is in whenever we're in a post betman world that's the thing i hope

his save percentage was okay fair enough he outplayed the other guy how many wins did he get save percentage doesn't matter in the playoffs it's about the wins four i mean it matters but it's not there's not as much he he he was great um so you know but the how do you fix this part was the confusing part and there were lots of debates about it and I don't love a lot of the things the Leafs have done this season um dating back to the summer they did it perfectly um with Samsonov and Sheldon keeps right like you can put him in front of Hanu Toivonen Curtis Sanford fly his dad over you can do all sorts of things but at the end of the day it's Ilya Samsonov with a healthy body like it's it's Ilya Samsonov that has to pull Ilya Samsonov out of this

and it's like overnight um like just the way he's playing the movements every now and then are still a little wild that glove hand great like emphatic um over the last couple games he's he sure seems like he's back like what what is what is going to be a real test here is the games that don't go perfectly yeah yeah you know what i mean like that game that two and oh should have gone in that goal should have gone in no shit like he was he was the better goalie in that game too like it's connor hellebuck or no laura beswat laura beswat who's also been good yeah and like sammy had the tougher workload in my opinion um i can't remember who it was on the broadcast uh but they pointed out he faced about as many shots in that first period as he did in

the entire game against seattle and i'm so much more comfortable after that game against the jets than i was after the seattle game because we've seen the leafs play airtight games uh in front a Sammy where he faced fewer than 20 shots. They did that against the Predators earlier this year when we all thought Ryan O'Reilly was going to come to town and get a hat trick with three assists from Lou Chen.

You know? And I don't know, maybe Corbinian Holzer comes back to the NHL and Victor Louv, and I'm trying to think of all the other guys who have passed through Nashville. But he was fantastic, and I just automatically feel like he's back.

There's no stress. jesse you had something up there it looks like you had some no i was just going back and looking at some of the stats from the game i like we i know we only want to talk about elia samson off but i think the story of that game is got to be the leafs not being able to score a power play goal which is something they've struggled with the last couple weeks so it's not just a single game thing it is a trend their special teams have sucked and shelvin keep benching the the top unit yes that's a shocker and he should have and like it almost worked like they their power play got better um they were actually generating shots and chances um that two on oh him yelling at them

afterwards on the bench yeah he should have dude when was the last time you saw a team give up a two on oh shorthanded it's it's embarrassing but it's also like or not shorthanded it was a uh they had the power play sheldon keith doesn't sheldon keith turns purple oh yeah he like he goes purple because he's got that silver hair too now, so you can see the color difference. And Sheldon, take it from me, an expert, that's not how you yell. It's got to come from the chest,

although I turn a shade of magenta. I also noticed that when Sheldon yells, his face gets up like this. If Sheldon's face is up like that, oh, bad. It's loud. It's bad. So it was five straight power plays.

But the second Willie took the Leafs' first penalty. yeah i was like this is this is how it ends like this is and the discourse is going to be insufferable and then they kill it and then cali yarn croak takes one with like 30 seconds to go and i'm like all right this is how it ends and they weathered the storm every time yeah that cali yarn croak penalty at the end of the game is just unacceptable you can't do that and he's been great all year but i'm just saying oh yeah and then so with those guys you know it's not a skill issue it's a hundred percent these guys are talented enough to be top talent and the thing is sheldon keep just wants to put more effort in on the defensive end and they're just incapable of

doing it and i and i worry about them i i kind of wonder if it's a bit of yips with them like we we talk about the lineup top to bottom and how there's not enough depth and they don't have enough depth scoring when the power play is not working it's the top guys it's the top guys not getting it done you know maybe you know samson i've clearly got a case of the yips and he's found a way to shake it off like maybe it's the power play we've seen this happen before there should never be a scenario i don't care how unfair it is to these guys there should be never a scenario where you have john tavarez austin matthews mitch marner william nylander and whoever defenseman you want to throw out there on on the fifth guy if it's morgan riley or so connor timmons was out there

Is it the first time ever? I think it is, isn't it, Brock? It's the first time, isn't it? Yeah, we have to have a talk about that. I know. What the hell, dude? I've been sitting here. Well, and it's the last time.

There goes the sound. You got me fired up. I'm ripping my glasses off. There we go. So, Brock, you're doing a speaking tour across the country. Can you tell us a little bit about that? because this is like uh this is pretty significant especially as it comes to hockey culture i'm sorry i thought i was here to talk about the leaf steeple oh we're getting there don't you

worry don't you worry oh you want to talk about the tour yeah yeah something let's start there all right great yeah um no it's um a couple years ago i had an idea i went to my management i said okay this is kind of crazy but what if i went to a hundred hockey teams or a hundred schools in a hundred days across the country and they went sure and then cut to two years later here we are i mean we we got some corporate partnerships on board and and it's been um a pretty wild journey and and the goal of it is ultimately i'm gay and yeah i talk about being gay but it's it's great shift makers it's great you know people to recognize the impact they can have on society and and we talked about three different ways you

can do that from humanizing issues any issue then creating a good environment through our language in our behaviors and breaking barriers conformity in hockey i mean look at any nhl player getting interviewed they all sound exactly the same pucks in deep pucks on net blah blah blah you know so so the goal is to break that down because that's not who they are they adhere to something but it's a part of them but it's not all of them and the more they can bring their full selves to the rink the less likely they are to judge others and the more welcoming it'll be for everyone is is there um like there's a kind of fatigue to your voice you know what i mean when when you when you when you started out is is there a uh have you changed the way that you do these

talks in these presentations over the course uh of the tour are you fed up with um the discourse out there are you fed up with the like what what is it what am i sensing in your voice i've i'm running on four and a half hours of sleep a night at most for the last three months um i had a random allergic reaction when i got back and my eye is swollen right now oh we can't tell uh yeah that's why i'm wearing the glasses so it distracts a little bit um and i think you know have i changed what i do yeah a little bit and it's not because i'm tired of the narrative or the discourse or any of the conversations I'm having but I've been able to evolve it and learn as I go which has been pretty cool and add stories from the tour not

just past stuff and that's been very rewarding and honestly I think I'd be discouraged if people weren't receptive but they have been which has been pretty damn cool like I went in with an academy in the Ottawa area the other day and they have Russian players and we know how Russia feels about people like me so the players didn't want to go to the session and the academy said no you're in Canada we're a Canadian school and that's what we do here and you're going by the end of the session one of the Russian kids answered the most questions the one who was the most adamant about not showing up and was the first player to shake my hand after wow wow you know i i had a a mother in bc email me and her son's best friend i i spoke to his team uh the night before and he came over

afterwards and was telling her that i changed the way he saw the world and uh he thinks i changed his life that's pretty cool wow that's there isn't sorry go keep going keep going oh yeah there's more if you want to hear yeah yeah absolutely there is an incident on the road and it's being investigated and stuff of uh anti-semitism with one of the players a 14 year old came to me in tears after the session and it happened the weekend before with his teammates and he came up to me and goes you inspired me to tell them how it made me feel the players were all gone at that point so i went up to the coach and i said when's your next practice he said friday and it was wednesday i said i'm coming back and i talked to the player

and his mom and we worked to facilitate so that he could share impact how it made him feel what happened and the impact it had on him and then i could have a discourse with the players on you know and one of the forms of language i talk about is silence and the three kids did this to them but let's be honest if it gets out they'll all be labeled as nazis as 14 year old boys so staying silent makes you complicit and having that discourse with them was pretty cool and rewarding and and the boy's mom was like you've empowered my child and it's so there's been stories like that every stop along the way where we've been able to empower and shift and evolve and just get people to critically think right and that's the ultimate goal i i don't care then i tell them

i don't care if you're homophobic like you can be anti-lgbtq plus frankly it's none of my business but i can share impact with you and then from there you have to follow your moral compass now i'm i'm uh i'm curious to know like because obviously there's been a ton of upheaval in the way that hockey views itself, in the way that the culture has shifted. Like there has been, and I'm just wondering in terms of progress overall, how are you feeling about it from your vantage point?

And forget, it doesn't even have to be at the NHL level, at the minor hockey level, because that's really the future. Are you feeling like we're getting closer to the goals here that you personally have set out and communities that felt disenfranchised by hockey and hockey culture, are uh you know are do you feel like we're getting closer here are we taking the right steps

i think people want to want it to evolve and i think that's the first step are we going by if are we going about it the way i necessarily would not always um i'm not a big fan of pride nights rainbow nights stuff like that i haven't seen a rainbow eradicate homophobia yet um i haven't seen you know black squares on your instagram grid erase racism um you know i i'm not a big fan of that stuff i never have been i look at it as like winning or having the parade before winning the cup okay we're celebrating things we're doing these celebratory nights without actually doing the work to evolve the culture first so to me we got to start there um the The problem is there's no guidebook or manual on how to engage in these things.

Nobody knows the right steps. So it's been cool seeing the reaction to what I'm doing. I'll go in with a team. And I think at first, I was with one group and the head of the association was there. And I think at first, people are a little apprehensive. I'm going to come in and tell them they're all homophobic and transphobic and beat them down or just spend an hour doing a boring PowerPoint. And I'm not like it's laughs, it's jokes, it's, you know, I'm humanizing, sharing stories, but then teaching them and doing it in a way that's super fun where they're engaged and it's interactive.

And then I'll have presidents of associations say, can you come back next year and talk to my entire association? So, and my approach, other people might not agree with, and that's totally okay. But to me, I think we need to get on the ground. we need to work with these folks and we have to do in a way that we have to recognize what hockey culture is and the conformity within it and how you're going to get through to them because i think a lot of the time you know whether we're talking about different issues social issues they go yeah that's great but how does that relate to me right and how does that relate to my locker room etc and we have to show them so um uh if if uh

This is a total switch. Brock, if you could fix the Leafs. Can I ask one question about the tour? Oh, you asked me about the tour, but I need to know what Brock thinks. Where are you at with the tour right now in the 100 days? And outside of the actual talks, what's been your favorite city just to go visit? Believe it or not, that was going to be my question, too. That's funny.

So we're six of the seven stops in. We started November 15th. I don't know how many days we are. um i think we have till close to the end of this month we i i've talked to 90 teams wow wow already yeah and we still have toronto to go in the gta and there's a lot of teams so i i estimate we'll get to about 120 130 uh before it's said and done and listen like ctv did a big feature on me it's supposed to be local in ottawa it ended up being national i had uh governing bodies of provinces reach out and not the provinces you'd expect

you know and and i've had like i could easily like from the outreach alone i could have done 500 teams this year wow um favorite city to visit see it's been tough i would say vancouver just because i was there and like we've been spoiled so i'm on the road with uh dom granato is my tour manager on the road my team at cimarroni manages from here and then it's uh tony's son cammy's nephew which has been kind of fun he's also gay played ncaa hockey which is you know we have very similar experiences and we were in vancouver for 15 days and it didn't rain once wow yeah wow then we went to calgary in december and it was plus 15. well chinook right you know like so um yeah climate change is bad but it's benefited us

so that's been kind of nice i'm not gonna lie not climate change but the tour um i wish i had more time in vancouver to go to the restaurants but we were our days because everything is there's so much sprawl there like we're going from surrey to north van to coquitlam in the same day and it would be like hour and a half two hour drives in between each spot yeah and like i just didn't have time but the only we had a little downtime in calgary and they have a sneaky restaurant scene oh it's so good so i couldn't believe it where did you go uh 10 foot henry's okay unbelievable had never been but i've heard about it eden okay it's probably my favorite it was on it was so good and then there was um an italian place

i can't something mercato yeah i was gonna ask if you've been there it's so good mercato is my favorite restaurant in all of calgary it's like you walk in and it's like like nona and nono's like uh store but it's also like a high-end restaurant everywhere yeah oh it's amazing luke procop actually told me to go there he said he basically lived there when he was playing for the hitman and um there was a steakhouse that was really good i can't remember the name was it a brazilian steakhouse no okay no it was like it felt like you're kind of like in texas a little bit which is you know on brand for calgary i guess you mentioned vancouver sprawl that's kind of the good part about bc and vancouver in particular is that everything's so spread out that it feels

like there's room and there's it's never too crowded and there's places to walk and that's That's such a beautiful part of Vancouver. And we were staying in Coal Harbor. So we were right on the water. And it was unbelievable. Like, I'd go to the gym every morning, and it was right on the ocean. And it was like, this is... Like, honestly, there hasn't been a bad stop.

We had a little bit of snow in Montreal, which Montreal is one of my favorite cities. But I got to go out. I got to take my management, two straight guys, to a drag show. Amazing. Which was, yeah, fun. I think it was their first one. so that was entertaining and um uh it was i don't know there hasn't been a bad like i've been canada's been good to me that's awesome that's awesome okay now now can we get to my question

because i would really like to know how he would fix brock how would you fix the leafs go well i think the leafs are one of my sponsors okay so they're so they're great he wouldn't do anything true living's doing a phenomenal job there's no better president in the nhl than brendan shanahan fair nor would anyone question it yeah like no it's it's perfect everything's perfect it's um i i mean i would say a d a d or two couldn't hurt um wall getting healthy couldn't hurt is he coming back this year yeah yeah high ankle sprain so yeah i think so oh then they'll be fine in that and you know that's that's a nice cheap good young goalie i think he's going to be special i think he's good and have a chance to be a guy as a as a goalie yourself what is it that makes

wool so good because i think he surprised a lot of people thought people didn't realize that he would come to the nhl and be this good oh i said it last year when he was up i watched a warm-up i was at a game and i was like i texted my brother who's a big leafs fan i said no this this guy's for real and then i watched him and he gave up i watched him against columbus and i think he gave up like four goals and i was still like no he's he's legit his he's square he's calm his movements are are tight he doesn't over slide places he drives to his post everything is compact he's a big boy but he moves well for his size i i his rebound control is pretty good plays the piano i think he's what's that plays the piano does he yeah there was a video yesterday the

leafs had a gala the blue and white gala or blue i was supposed to go i was supposed to go but my eye blew up so that's fair well you know you missed the piano performance sir so that's cool actually because i do a breakout with all these teams i'm like there's four things you can talk about in a men's hockey locker room women video games partying and sports maybe music as long as it's socially accepted so i do a breakout i've done this with nhl teams i do it with every minor hockey team i'm like you all use an analogy like your family whether it's brothers or sisters or something like that tell me something you typically wouldn't tell a teammate you enjoy and i get kids like sheepishly saying i play the piano or different things like that and

but i've had nhl guys talk about like their love of writing poetry i remember it was a big story in the toronto star when kyle wellwood read books they're like you know he reads at a university level and i was like wow that's crazy like good for him i guess or dougie hamilton went to the museum instead of going out with the teammates right yeah but what a dork am i right brock well that's but that lack of conformity with dougie is there's speculation that's why he's been traded twice yes exactly you know what i mean because he doesn't conform he doesn't go out partying with the boys so what kind of teammate is he he might as well be the gay guy right and and was probably thought of in that way you know and but they all like things they just

are afraid to share it here and like corporate culture has done studies now and they've shown that the more you can bring yourself to work your full self i call it your weirdness and normal doesn't exist we're all a bunch of weirdos and that's a beautiful thing and you three in particular should appreciate that yeah hey wait hey thank you question mark i think i think that's something to celebrate like oh thank you exclamation mark if wouldn't suck if we're all the same like when it sucked if you're both just like adam yeah yeah that would be awful be a bad show it'd be bad for you too though wouldn't it be boring yeah it would keep bumping into each other at the plaid shirt store hats would go out of business because nobody can wear them wow poor guy poor guy
