here is how today is going to go we're going to talk about the uh we're going to talk about an
announcement that the show has another one yeah another one this is a good one i i say the show
it's the network the network's got a huge announcement and we're really excited about
this it should be really fun and it involves good things for you wow it is not another show although
there are more shows coming i know people have been asking there are more shows coming nothing
imminent on that but uh we're talking about a full-blown different way of consuming all sdpn
content and buying sdpn type things and so it's got nothing to do with the large shipment of
pigeons we ordered what carrier pigeons we're gonna deliver the show via carrier pigeons oh
that's bad is that a joke yeah it was a really good one i thought it was a very good one what
was happening i don't here let me chug this let me just we're also going to talk about uh the
there's no caffeine in that no there's some we're also going to talk about the leafs game last night
and but first obviously this is our first show since the gary betman press conference with bill
daly and i mean unless you're kathal kelly from the globe and mail uh on what was on all fronts
an abject failure at the nhl level and on a on a on a level that was previously unthinkable
before we get to betman and daily themselves um it is i i don't like posting stuff in the morning
but every now and then hockey twitter when it's sleepy and groggy comes together
to tomato exactly one person all at the same time right and i woke up to the tomatoing of
yes the six flag guy strikes again with a bad opinion it's great to explain what he said he
said basically that gary bettman handled it as best he could and there's nothing else he could
do oh that's not that's not a good take no it was the exact opposite take that almost everybody took
from that opposite take of what happened in reality yes well that too that too like it's
you might there was no headphones a bit sorry there was no devil's advocate there it was just
hey you know how you see an article of mine every few months and it's usually not for the right
reasons yeah here i am yeah and it's it just it absolutely got tomatoed and the thing is you know
you could talk about how that would drive clicks for them but they're a subscription newspaper so
you probably couldn't even read it unless you were subscribed and uh and so that doesn't that's
not going to drive subscriptions this is going to alienate people netflix doesn't get people to
subscribe to their product by pissing them off yeah like i know people are like don't share
content you don't like but that did nothing for the globe no it doesn't no and and if it's free
content yeah don't share it if you don't like it for sure uh if it's if it's subscriber based
content sure share away so you know what outlets it's coming from that was a it was just a it was
an objectively wrong opinion as jesse said and no one's gonna leave an angry comment by going
let me enter my credit card information before i do this i spoke i spoke with alan wallace yesterday
a lot of people asked if if i had we we released an episode and i think it's far more current to
what is happening than people even realize it's about is glenn healy is on and he's talking about
the 92 players strike that lasted 10 days right before the playoffs and then the 94 lockout with
which was the first one with gary and gary was gary was coming over from the nba and gary was
the savior of the owners because he was going to implement a salary cap now we know that didn't
happen but it's interesting to hear why and gary that is the start of gary bettman's career in the
nhl which is why that podcast is particularly relevant but obviously you saw alan tweeting
about the fact that you know there's owners now are concerned about uh about gary bettman should
he should he be there and when i was talking to him yesterday he said the same thing on 32 thoughts
when i was talking to him yesterday it was like uh my phone was gonna melt like he was
fired up and there's not everything i can repeat but you know i think it's a
um it's a good it's a good representation of how things are inside the game now i want to i want
to get out get into this press conference here but you know what you saw on monday afternoon
to me at least is the exact reason um whether why now or in a few years because gary is slippery
and can slide his way out of these things uh why gary betman and bill daly's time has passed as
effective leadership and it's you know i i heard jeff merrick on 32 thoughts talk about you know
i don't want to call for anyone's job or see anyone lose their job and i get that um however
sometimes and he and bridge put it perfectly sometimes your time is just passed yeah and
covet has accelerated that for a lot of people yeah 100 and robo gary and robo daily didn't do
a very good job of a pretty simplistic task at the end of the day and the key was to and what
what an audience needs what a group of fans need what a player who was sexually assaulted and
didn't get justice for still hasn't gotten justice really and had it covered up and was told he was
a liar etc etc for over 10 years the thing to do is to lead with empathy and they did it's like
they googled empathy beforehand and tried to impersonate it for exactly three minutes yeah
for exactly three minutes before abandoning it for the next 50 can i be immature for a second
anytime i hate bill daly's face what's wrong with it he's just so smug and aloof and i just never
want to see it again well it seemed like you know because all they have to do really is go
we're so sorry to kyle for what he went through and we're so sorry for our part in it for the
league's part in it for the way it was set up at the time that's not a reflection of what we are
right now that right there would have been better but what they said was essentially he's brave and
we talked to him and yeah i mean sorry it happened man we've decided he's not a liar anymore right
good for him not being a liar and and the thing is is that they handled that press conference
like they were worried about being slapped with another lawsuit which by the way the penguins
have been we can get to that later in the uh in the in the show and i think this type of press
conference guys would have worked 25 years ago i think this would have worked perfectly 25 years
ago well 100 but it is not fine now i mean i think we live in an age where what you see on
the news gets repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated and people go hey
wait a second let me deep dive into that now that i've watched that eight times
i've noticed something yeah and the the word um and the demands of the job has changed and
there's a saying for this and it's called emotional intelligence oh they hit thank you
adam god they don't have a lick of it not a lick they are intelligent they're both doctors
doctors at law but they are not emotionally intelligent and there is no doctorate that
they can earn that will teach them how to be emotionally intelligent uh the commissioner
is the pr dartboard for owners we know that sure um but the commissioner also in a good scenario
needs to be somebody that connects the league and its owners to the fans the nhl ownership groups
and Gary Bettman and Bill Daley have lost track of that.
And they lost track of that a long time ago.
That's why they get booed every Stanley Cup, right?
And, you know, I look at somebody like Adam Silver,
who is not perfect, but, you know,
he does the same job Gary Bettman does on a bigger level
with more constraints and more challenges
and understands why movements like Black Lives Matter matter
and what to do about them.
And I'm using BLM as an example.
uh you can point to many different things uh i mean how long has the wnba been around i mean
david stern was on that um there there is so much about hockey that gary betman and bill daily could
and can do but they can't do it because they're not capable of it yeah adam silver does not always
get it right does not but generally speaking when he walks into a room your feeling is not
right and it's it it would be the way i see gary betman and bill daly in the emotional
intelligence arena is how i would see steve or me or jesse suiting up for the toronto maple
leaves tomorrow night we would be ill-equipped for the job is that fair uh yeah very fair we'd
probably fall on her face which is exactly what happened and here's the thing what i saw from the
press conference undoubtedly you've seen the clips undoubtedly you've seen the replays and
you know what happened to rick westhead and you know what we'll talk about all that but before
we really get into it i need you to know this gary betman bill daly and the people that work
for them are frozen stiff right now not because they're scared but because they don't know what
to do and i know there's a lot of owners out there who would probably love to see gary fall on his
sword and i would caution audiences from if that happens being too worked up or going you know what
we got them because remember the people that hired him are still there yeah and they are the ones that
really need to affect change so you could be calling for gary betman's job i am suggesting
that time has passed him whether or not he loses it now or later but i will say to this i don't know
that that changes anything owners are more than happy to let somebody else take the fall for them
that's the joy of having money as people do that and in this particular case it would be awfully
expensive to make gary betman go away but what's that to the owners and frankly um he is actually
not equipped to do this job at this level anymore it's true i mean we saw it we he's
objectively not there no we talked about this in a different context before the show started
we are less than a month into this season i don't know how a lot of people involved are
going to survive i really don't um like a lot of people are emotionally exhausted from the last
year and a half two years and this has been an emotionally exhausting few weeks uh for the nhl
and i don't this isn't going away it's going to get so so much worse before it's all said and done
and as resolved as it can be how do bill daly and gary betman make it to the end of the season
it's going to be so painfully uncomfortable and like imagine firing the commissioner mid-season
and the chaos that could potentially cause so it's his time and yet it can't be
what the hell do you do with that what on earth do you do with that situation
can i ask you guys uh something that my therapist asked me oh let's go you ready i had it yesterday
too hit me um one of the things that i struggled with when i started really going back out back to
therapy last year hardcore was explaining how i felt feelings were harder for me to articulate
you keep a thought diary and a feeling is a one word thing okay feeling is a one word thing so
that's what i wanted that's how i want to set this up you watch the press conference i've seen i
haven't seen it front to back but i've seen all the major highlights and read everything
so jesse you listen to it on the way home how did you feel listening to it in one word well
I'm more than a word, but you know what I mean. I don't know. My takeaway from it was that it was
a hostile environment because the media could sense what Daley and Bettman were delivering,
and it wasn't compassion, and it wasn't empathy towards Kyle Beach. And immediately when that
happened, when they were like, okay, this is our lawyer press conference, the media who were on
that Zoom call reacted appropriately in that they challenged these guys and they came back at them.
and that's the exact opposite of what the intention was for bill uh daily they want to
shut it down because yeah they wanted to just come out there and do their lawyer speak and
have everything kind of clean and cut and then we move on from this because that's all they want to
do and the exact they got the exact opposite reaction because everybody could see through it
because like you said they're they don't have the emotional intelligence intelligence to react to
something this area so when when our last show ended we were um we the press conference had
just started yep we went upstairs and we were reading some of the quotes and i'm already seeing
tweets from mike stevens and greg wischinski rick westhead's been on here a long time and he hasn't
gotten a question yeah and then you and i turned it on in our car and how far into your drive
was it when you i want to know what the moment was like because you heard this live
when you heard pierre lebrun say i think my colleague rick westhead needs to get in i was
shocked like it literally it made me jump a little because i was i was like whoa i didn't expect
somebody to do that on a zoom call like it's the like i said the media they were doing everything
that um people wanted them to do so i gotta give all the credit to all the reporters that were in
that call because they asked the questions and they acted appropriately the way the fans are
feeling right now the way everybody who who should have like who is uh reacting appropriately
to what what happened to kyle beach the way we want to scream at betman and daily and the entire
blackhawks organization for what how they let this individual down the reporters reflected that
in that uh zoom call and like all credit to them like pierre especially when he hopped in and was
like hey what what the hell why isn't rick getting a question so i know you want to move on no i
don't sorry i don't actually i want to re-ask the question oh okay i just i wanted to contextualize
pierre lebrun when it comes to everyone wants to know what the actual hierarchy is that's the head
of the table with all hockey reporters and writers that's the head of the table and for
it meant something that someone spoke up it meant more than it was him so my question to both of you
again because neither of you have answered it yet okay and it's not i'm not trying to be a jerk but
i want to know how you felt tell me how you felt i know what happened overall how did you feel
overall from no when you're in the car you're listening to the thing your your human emotional
reaction uh they can't help themselves no how do you feel though i know what's happening with them
and what this is this is what's so interesting are you angry are you upset are you disappointed
are you how what's the what wording would you use to describe how it felt in your gut you do you do
go to therapy because i'm describing thoughts and you're asking for emotion exactly anger
anger jesse uh i guess disappointment is the correct word because for kyle beach because this
isn't what you want in the end i think that's that's what i was feeling uh most in that moment
can i tell you how i felt yeah apathy yeah disconnected and the reason i bring that up
is everybody's reaction to this is going to be different you're going to have that jesse's going
to have his i'm going to have mine but one of the things that i wanted to get to about what the
commissioner job really is it's supposed to be the representative of the league of the sport that you
love and as such a commissioner i believe must be able to make a connection to fans and to be able
to do that in the 21st century you must have emotional intelligence you must be able to
connect why what you feel and what your audience this time fans and media feel why that's important
and you have to acknowledge that those feelings are in the room and they did not do that they
could not do that they can't do that and for that i don't fault them they are ill-equipped for this
that's not what they can do there's so many quotes i don't know where to begin well and and so so
let's let let us begin okay so i mean i think the first thing to start with and i know this came up
later but i wanted to start with the fines is that okay oh yeah the fines comparison oh the two
million dollars and someone asked about it yeah so this to me was a perfect example of when i ask
you guys about what you feel why this is an issue so it was asked you know listen the devil's got
fined more for caps or convention they lost draft picks and they lost they were fined more money
that coyotes for just just sneaking some people in for a push-up lost three or four draft picks
and you're finding these guys two million dollars for a sexual assault cover-up
that seems odd to me and and then and and so betman's response to that is four words long
different context different facts now elliot friedman and and i think steve brought it up on
the chat as well there is a theory out there that they're gonna pay the warts family's gonna pay a
bunch more money in settlements and that that's the true penalty but i have to be honest with you
and tell me if i'm crazy here i see those as separate they're incredibly separate the it's
the league establishing a precedence versus restitution for kyle beach that's the real
punishment what the fuck no it's not why is the nhl continuing to make kyle beach do their job
because that's exactly what it is if that's the real punishment it's kyle beach doing gary
betman and bill daly's job what else is there like when you if you if you have a drunk driving
charge they don't reduce it because you have to pay your lawyer a bunch of money to defend you
like they don't reduce your whatever your penalty is in court well we're not going to find him
because he's already got to pay his lawyer you know like i got i got pulled over for speeding
when i was 18 i was i was going too fast uh on the way to work i did 83 and a 60 oh i've done
90 to 60 i got dinged for that pretty bad that's kilometers to all the americans who went holy
shit yeah just now um yeah it's true yeah it's good to more i did 83 and a 60 and the cop said
you know what the real punishment is your dad is going to be upset when you get home and he let me
go kidding he gave me a fucking ticket and i had to pay it because i did something i shouldn't have
and then dad also got mad and he was mad that i got the ticket he was mad that i did it and
mad that i got the ticket he probably made you do some chores too yeah he did the cop was probably
like yeah you know steve the real punishment is you'll have to do the one for the rest of your
life this is this is a true story i clocked out of work and i stayed and like raked leaves and
like swept for like another two hours good for you i don't want to go home yeah yeah i've done
shit like that too oh yeah just kind of hang around somewhere if you want to go look at your
parents and get yelled at yeah yeah my boss is not fun what are you what are you doing and then
he's like you have to clock out i'm like i did clock out he's like whoa you really don't want
um this is this is i want you to remember too what are the blackhawks being fined for besides
kyle beach's situation and in fact what i'm about to bring up to you i think is the real
reason the nhl is mad i don't know that kyle beach is the real reason the nhl is mad here's
why i think they're mad bill daly revealed that although the blackhawks and by the way this is
from luke fox although the blackhawks gave the nhl a quote heads up about a potential civil
litigation case back in december the team told the league there was quote no merit to the threat
the nhl didn't take action at that point and didn't hear more until the suit went public in
may and that was a rick westhead report at the time now the reason the nhl is mad in this situation
civil litigation as in they're getting sued if i'm the nhl for due process okay why are you
getting sued right and then they've assured the nhl that there's no merit to the claim
which it turns out was baseless by the way yeah so what you did was you either lied to the nhl
or your own incompetence made the nhl look terrible it's 40 billion percent the blackhawks
fault yes the reason the nhl was still like ah no but the reason the nhl's mad and the reason that
fine was levied was not because of what happened to kyle beach let's be honest it's because they
made the nhl look really bad and it was still only two million bucks yeah i that's that's what
it is and this league this league has now shown you that caps or convention is more important
than a sexual assault cover-up you've now seen it you now know it in case you were wondering
there it is that's the proof precedent there is no there is no other way to look at this
caps or convention will get you a bigger penalty than covering up a sexual assault for 12 years
and and this and again the smugness oh my god i really do just don't say it steve i really do
hate them um and you should hate them because they're hateable but the different circumstances
different facts is that what it is yes that was the quote all right we're gonna ask you about
different circumstances gary john doe too and what's and that was rick asked him about john
doe too and potentially getting restitution for him and some help for him and strangely rick didn't
have the facts i need to know more i need to know more more about that that was one of the questions
you asked me to pull do you want me to play it please play it i can definitely do that like
that's something you could have you literally could have crammed for that gary you could have
read some shit last night and you didn't even do that because you suck give me one moment keep
talking he sucks he smells he'll daily smells i hate the both of them like sorry i don't know
It's time I have to fill.
I hit them both.
I have a suggestion at that answer, by the way.
I think there's more to that answer than you think.
Interesting.
So let's hear it once Jesse gets it cued,
because I actually think I really want you to listen to the question,
and I really want you to listen to this answer.
Thanks, Chris.
Next question comes from Rick Westhead of TSN.
Go ahead, Rick.
Oh, Rick.
Rick, I believe you're muted.
everyone was oh poor driver gary i've got a question and a quick follow-up if you'd allow me
i understand in your call with kyle beach and his uh attorney on saturday that you assured them that
kyle and his family would have us you know counseling for as long as is needed uh because
of this and i wonder if right now you're publicly willing to make the same commitment to the boy who
was abused by Brad Aldrich in 2013 and to his family? I would have to know more about that
circumstance. I am more focused because of the circumstances in front of us on what happened
in the NHL environment. I wouldn't certainly wouldn't rule it out. I certainly would need
to know more information. Having said that, making our resources available is something
that I would probably, not even knowing all the facts, want to do, but I think I'd need to know
more before I could make the type of blanket commitment you're asking me for. Can you tell
me, Gary, whether the NHL supports the Chicago Blackhawks' attempts now, even after the team's
apology, to dismiss the lawsuits that have been filed by Kyle Beach and the former high school
hockey player? What you're asking us to do is make a judgment on the legalities in a lawsuit
with respect to what may or may not have happened here. And I don't think it's appropriate for me
to comment on whether or not the lawsuit has merit, which is really what you're asking me
to do. I did hear Danny Wirtz say on Tuesday that they would be interested in trying to
resolve this and settle it, but whether or not they should be proceeding with their legal options
and determine ultimately under the legal standards whether or not this is a meritorious lawsuit,
that's for the lawyers involved to decide.
what we have had thus far
what we have had thus far
I hate building this space so much
is the
he didn't say anything I don't want him to shut up
like sorry
what we've had thus far is the
so far the
I'm trying to figure out the best way to word this
from Katie Strang and from
Rick Westhead and I believe a reporter with the last name
Hamilton who I have not been familiar with
but for each doubt i'm out on 32 thoughts so i've got john hamilton chicago uh john hamilton
um what we've seen from them all we have seen are facts all we have seen are facts and for those who
are a little foggy because i understand this on john doe too what's the position with john doe
too can you tell me what john doe too yes so um i may have the dates a little wrong but uh basically
brad aldrich uh committed uh he did what he did with kyle beach and that was in 2010
he largely escapes punishment beyond he had to resign from the chicago blackhawks won a stanley
cup won a stanley cup got his day with the cup got his day with the cup did he or didn't he get
a letter of reference moving forward i don't know if he got an official letter of reference but
I mean he could say for the rest of his life
I won the Stanley Cup of the Chicago Blackhawks
and if he did get a letter of reference it's now
somebody put it in the trash bin on their Mac
and then hit empty trash bin
and it doesn't exist anymore
if they ever find that thing
and then 2013
he moves on and he's working at a
school I think a high school
and assaults
a 16 year old boy
who is John Doe 2
a crime for which
he was convicted in 2014
i believe and served nine months in prison and three years probation on three years probation
so i ask you that to ask you this
gary betman accused rick westhead of asking him about the merits of a particular lawsuit
based on facts i would need to know more i need to know more facts number one that's a shot
across the ballot rick's reporting in my view because which is by the way been above reproach
he's such a snide child because i really because he's saying i need to know more facts and i don't
read your work and even if i did i'm not sure it contains all the facts number two i don't read
your work but i'm gonna freeze you out for 46 minutes number two fuck you let us not forget
that john doe too and the bravery john doe too showed by coming forward and explaining what
happened going to his parents all of these things and by the way the family's been horrendously
negatively affected by that i don't know if that's how much out there that is yeah
by doing all that we have a factual basis that was proven in court
and punishment was administered and adjudicated was it not
you went to prison so so if i am guilty if i am the commissioner of the nhl
if i am the commissioner of the nhl i know that story backwards i am a doctor at law which is what
he is one of my one of the players that was on the fringes of the league was sexually assaulted
by one of the key teams in my league one of the top teams in my league sexually assaulted by a
video coach in that in that league and gary betman with a straight face wants to tell you that he
needs more facts and that he doesn't know the situation so one one of the two answers are true
here gross incompetence or he's lying and and and this is this is the part this is the hard part for
me it's it's the it's the same thing that you know when people talked about bergevin well you know he
he he didn't know he was absolved no he wasn't absolved he just wasn't mentioned he wasn't
absolved he wasn't exonerated and he either knew and is in the same position as shovel day off
which is a gray area i think we can agree on we'll get to that or he was grossly incompetent
and was completely unaware of what was going on in the dressing room right one of the two have to
be true with gary betman either you either you didn't do your research on this lawsuit which
you maybe should because it's an nhl team being sued over sexual assault because your nhl team
didn't handle it properly and a kid was raped so it's either that or you're just flat out fucking
lying i'm gonna throw it out there that he uh if it doesn't have to do with the national hockey
league he doesn't fucking care but it is the black hawks are being sued and i think the the correct
answer is usually the easiest one it's probably that he's lying he is like he knows he doesn't
have to lie there all he has to do is saying we're looking at our options that's all he has to say
it's but he's he wants to take a shot and i'm sorry no it's okay no i'm clearing my throat
he wants to take a shot here at well you want me to do this rick you want to play gotcha reporter
no rick just wants an answer as we all do yes as to what you're going to do for this kid well
and to this person to me it ties in to his inadequate um response when asked about sheldon
kennedy's situation and he felt the need to point out well what happened to sheldon kennedy
the abuse he suffered was not at the National
Hockey League level.
Fucking we know, Gary.
That was unbelievable.
By the way, you know how we know? We read
the facts. Give it a
shot. Once
ever. You nailed it off the
top of the show. He's got no emotional intelligence.
He knows everything about it and he doesn't
fucking... I'm so glad you brought that up
because I couldn't believe that answer. Well, it didn't
happen in the NHL. Yeah, and
I don't know if he said it quite
as flippantly as that but
one thing that was mentioned
on 32 Thoughts
I hope he drew his hands up
one thing that was brought up on 32 Thoughts
was how pissed off
the sponsors are
and to me that was a
flimsy
you're
talking to Kyle Beach
you're talking to John Doe 2
you're talking to the reporters
and you're talking to the fans here
and that was Gary taking a small
aside to talk to the sponsors by the way that didn't happen at the nhl level just so we're
clear yeah didn't happen at the nhl level let's slap a sticker on that it only happened to a
nhl player that's great gary wasn't the fucking question get a clue get a clue once ever so
this is why i i cannot stand when this guy talks because it's we've been over it on this show over
the years and like i've sort of flip-flopped on gary where every time he talks i hate him
every time but my my argument always back you as well he's a lawyer well he's a lawyer and he's
doing his job and he's a dartboard yep and he's been good at that he's been good at being a
hateable face yeah and he's done this for the league and that for the league but i think the
main reason i've always kind of hated his guts is he never speaks to me or anyone i was gonna say
like a human but even when he does manage to speak to us like human he speaks to us like children
he's such a snide you don't get to be the way you always are on this press conference and neither
man understood the assignment at all they both failed and that is why time has passed them by
that is why they are unfit for the assignment if you asked me to be commissioner of the nhl
i would say are you fucking nuts no i am not i am not equipped for that i'm not equipped for that
it's also like unnatural you're equipped to be the commissioner yeah all right maybe you're
equipped to be the commissioner for like 30 years i don't think anyone is is capable of doing that
no i also i also look at this and go people people will say his gary's defenders and there
are still gary defenders out there many they'll say well that's a lot to ask they say well that's
a delicious boot oh sorry what that's a lot to ask of one person and i'll say yeah he's the
commissioner or she's the commissioner of the nhl get out of here yeah and now now i i know there's
other things you guys want to bring up here i do want to step into the pierre lebrun rick westhead
moment that will live on in infamy.
Rick Westhead, who broke this story,
who was the first guy on it, Katie Strang
right in there as well. I want to give credit where it's due.
Everybody, just be clear on that.
We love Katie. She got a question
in the top five. I don't have a problem with her.
Not yet.
The NHL
has a disdain for Rick Westhead.
That's pretty clear.
The guy that breaks the story, you wait 41
minutes to call on him. He was hands up
every time, hands up every time.
One of the most
interesting moments of drama
I think at NHL history. You could make
a Netflix movie about
this. It would be an awfully sad
one, but this would be one
of the key scenes where they freeze him out, freeze him
out, freeze him out, and Steve, you mentioned it,
reporter at the top of the table
who would be
in contact with them all the time.
I reacted out
loud in my car. Asks
for them to call and request
that. Jesse, I'm assuming you have that moment.
You have to keep talking.
I will keep talking.
So, well, here, I'll contextualize it with time.
It is a 53-minute press conference.
Daly and Bettman spoke for three, four, five minutes off the top.
Then they took questions.
At the 41-minute mark of the press conference,
Pierre Lebrun calls on them to take a question from his colleague,
Rick Westhead, and they get to him at the 46-minute mark,
where i believe he was the third last reporter to get a question kevin paul dupont got more than one
uh dregger they tried to give him more than one yes dregger was muted the whole time i it was a
it was as much needed there was nothing funny about that press conference at all except that
every time i was in the car and they called on dregger multiple times they're like
darren it's your turn you're you're muted and then all right moving on moving on and we're gonna
we're gonna get back to darren i'm like oh here's darren and no darren and uh lebrun got in twice
too down down down now oh sorry it's me it's okay is this yours uh yeah it is just a little higher
perfect okay anyway they did not get to rick westhead until minute 46 and it wasn't until
minute 41 that lebron was able to uh campaign for his colleague that's fine that's just thank
you mark a follow-up from uh pierre lebron go ahead pierre yeah guys i'm also hoping that my
colleague rick westhead will get a question on this call but in the meantime a follow-up to my
first question uh i spoke with sheldon kennedy today no no you know what keep it going you want
the question yes i do you know one of the things that surprised me is that he has not heard he said
from the league over the years given his work in this space he said the same thing about the pa
and i was curious as again there you stress the desire to you know to further educate for the
league on on this would you reach out to sheldon kennedy at some point given his work over the
years in this we're going we're going to reach out to anybody who's interested in working with us
uh you know sheldon's terrible experience was not at the nhl level we've been focused on what we
have to do for the nhl uh players and personnel uh but certainly sheldon uh has an interest in
working with us particularly as we seek to set up a network that can provide access for anybody
involved at hockey at any level we would be more than welcome to to work with him and have his
input the the reason i wanted you to play the full answer the question and answer is the the
the shelvin kennedy quote that betman is being criticized for didn't even need to happen
hey you gonna reach out to sheldon kev kennedy you bet yes that's that's all it would have needed
to be yeah i will reach out to him because he's an expert in this space yeah he's an expert in
this space that is a great suggestion and we're already on it no we will only reach out to people
who were specifically uh sexually assaulted in the nhl if you have no if you've never been
sexually assaulted in the nhl then you have nothing to bring to the table like that's
literally what he was saying. Now, I want to read you
a tweet.
I'm not going to tell you who it is. It so didn't
need to happen. I'm not going to tell you who this tweet
is from, but it's going to blow you away
for a couple of reasons.
Actually, the first part won't blow you away too much.
She says, imagine choosing
to be infuriated about hockey players
celebrating winning games when there's
literally no sexual assault policy in the NHL.
There is no sexual
assault policy in the NHL. This is
part of the problem who said it i don't know barissa and gemini and gave me yeah when did
she say it i don't know february 3rd 2019 oh emily caplan on abc news live the nhl is the
is the only one of the four major north american professional men's leagues
without a specific domestic policy that is october 27th of this year they do not have
a sexual assault policy they have not created one and they deal with this on a quote case by case
basis that's messed up in a nhl memo sent to teams yesterday this is as of october 28th
Emily Kaplan, again, who has just been on Fuego.
She's had an unreal year so far.
Quote, fostering a safe and inclusive culture is the title.
Per a copy I saw, all league personnel and players are required to immediately report to Gary Bettman or Bill Daley conduct that is clearly inappropriate, unlawful, or demonstrably abusive.
Now, imagine you're a player, and you've been abused, and you watch that press conference.
You're required to immediately report it to Gary Bettman or Bill Daley?
How confident are you in those two guys being able to manage what you have gone through,
which is, in any case, a life-changing event?
They want everybody in the NHL to report abuse to them directly after a press conference like that.
I wouldn't trust Bill Daley and Gary Bettman with my coffee order.
2018, Emily Kaplan, the NHL, unlike the MLB, NBA, and NFL,
does not have a specific policy pertaining to domestic violence.
The NHL, in conjunction with the NHLPA, did implement a, quote,
domestic violence, sexual assault, and sexual harassment training seminar
for all players in 2016.
That is June 20th, 2018.
Emily's been on this.
Marissa's been on this.
People have been on this.
That's a good fact.
I like all these facts.
It's good that you have the facts.
Gary wants the facts.
Here's some facts.
Now, somebody made mention, was it Rick?
Somebody made mention of an incident that happened in the Blackhawks organization in 2009.
And this has to be, I don't even know how you power rank.
Like, you know how Stephen A. Smith has his list?
Power rank blunders in this press conference.
this one has got to be near the top and we didn't even lead with it and that is bill daily speaking
about how the bill peters investigation has now concluded two full years later jenner and block
took a couple months the nhl is they're now at two years later and then bill daily has the balls
to say, we've been in touch with Akeem Alley,
who's management, to see about next steps,
if in fact there are any.
And immediately after, Akeem Alley,
who's representative, comes out and says,
that's news to me.
Are you kidding?
I know, I'm trying to find it.
They just got humiliated over and over again in real time.
Here it is.
So Elliot Freeman with the tweet,
League says investigation into Bill Peters is completed.
we've been in touch with the key values representatives about next steps if there
are any like you said this is news to me and not true says ben uh misalas i am a keem i'm a keem's
rep and nhl has not been in touch with us for over a year also investigation was into broader
issues of racism a keem experience in uh entire career in nhl and not limited to peters witnesses
we told them uh about haven't even been contacted which i thought was eerily similar to uh just a
few days ago when we were talking about bill garren and um how kevin shovel day off is sort
of a precedent setting case for what could potentially be coming for bill garren which
is nothing well and then later that night though safe sport uh the hockey news tweeted that safe
sport concluded their investigation with belgarian and everything was fine and then rick westhead was
like but no the complainant hasn't been interviewed by anybody with i think it's over hockey news
jumping the gun a little i don't think they had the right information a little yeah i think that
had to be incorrect yeah i don't i yeah i don't know if it was i think they were just reporting
what they were given right and maybe safe sport needs to fucking chill and get get uh start
interviewing the right people yeah but like again uh it's all taken care of no one involves been
talking uh spoken to what there's how do those two things happen a week apart there's also two
years ago what have you been doing like the alley-oop situation when the investigation was
supposed to be done like it's not like you're sitting on your hand all parties involved didn't
admit to it immediately like bill peters admitted to this so gone relatively he was gone pretty much
right away yeah what needed to be done like i told you jenner and block did this in a few weeks
two years i know you had covid but come on are you kidding this also happened before
covid by the way yeah i remember when this when uh he did his initial twitter thread like i was
in studio then yep so it was it was two years ago because like public pressure kind of waned
and dissipated and people moved on like covid happened and everything the nhl figured hey we
can just move on too and not talk about this investigation until somebody asks again and
then now people are asking if nobody asked we would not have this information because they would
never tell us and again i just i don't know how anyone's going to make it through this season and
i don't know how fans are because i just i don't feel like the league cares do you understand why
i felt apathy yes do you understand why we feel disconnected and not the worst one yours is the
the nhl needs to be the most concerned about that people just won't care did you see the blackhawks
game the other day it was a crowd i know it was monday and i know it was the sens
came with that hat trick and they finally win a game and no one was there to see it
the slices of pizza were more expensive than the tickets did you see that no i didn't see that
pizza was that true pizza was 750 tickets were seven seven dollars for chicago blackhawks game
yeah american though so ten dollars the uh the bulls are really good too lonzo and derosen and
caruso are falling out jesse it's the chicago blackhawks come on it's the bulls no that's the
reason that people are going the black yes not anything we're talking about demarco rosen taking
down the blackhawks hero love them uh it's uh dude it's bad it's very very bad this is i was
like depressed all day yesterday i was just like well i i told you at the beginning of the show
yesterday yeah last week was very hard yeah and i didn't live it and it's just exactly but it's just
like you know when your whole life is hockey it affects you a little differently my wife was like
why are you so like okay it's a bad story and i'm like well i kind of like i read about it and
listen to it and have to react to it like every day and i'm sad i'm sad and i think a lot of
hockey fans are sad and that's not how you should feel when you think about a sport shouldn't feel
sad rick made outside of losses rick made a great point during the first intermission of last night's
game when they were talking about the case and everything because the nhl said that they're
gonna continue their investigation and interview kyle beach and talk to him about it and rick said
that they don't understand that doing all of these things and making kyle talk about the situation
over and over and over again is hurting him mentally like this isn't this isn't good for
him to relive the trauma over and over again and even in that case where they're like oh yeah
well uh we want to talk to kyle and we want to do all this and they're like he's like they don't
even understand that that might be a bad thing there's just there's a whole area where they
just don't understand how any of this should work they don't understand yeah they don't understand
because they're not emotionally intelligent
is there more i think we probably can move on from the past press conference because there's
we could we could do a whole show we could do a whole show but i think we hit the major points
but I need to hit something that I think is underreported.
If you would go with me on this for a minute.
I will indulge.
I'm not sure if you saw this.
I think it was lost in the shuffle,
but Duncan Keith tripped and fell
and stumbled on his own conscience.
Now, first off, I want to give you the context here.
Duncan Keith, who is a part of the system in Chicago
that favored certain players over others,
showed up in camp to Edmonton
acting like he's been allowed to act his entire career this season.
which is more important than everybody else.
He's Mr. Character, Mr. Leadership.
Edmonton Media, the Oilers organization,
they all touted his leadership skills and his character.
Veteran presence, what they needed on the blue line.
He shows up unvaccinated
and then later told everyone he didn't know
about the allegations brought forward by John Doe 1
in the lawsuit in May until he was filed.
Now, why do I bring up unvaccinated?
well let me come back to that okay they ignored the unvaccinated thing in edmonton by the way
with oh he'll get to it he'll fly south get the johnson johnson no big deal he's just gonna he's
only gonna miss the first week of camp and then when he got it it was well at least he got it
yeah and any well he missed the first four days i think four days of camp i don't even know
and when the allegations were brought up he along with every blackhawks player from that team still
currently playing said yeah we didn't know and then the oilers media said yeah he didn't know
what was he even gonna do poor duncan but and if he did know oh some what a he would have
leadership he had the problem he would have done something he's duncan keith said the media and i
have to call this out because honestly i i we all saw the video that was circulated you all know who
i'm talking about and it's hard for me i don't know what you don't know what you're talking about
okay i'm gonna call them out gene principe and mark specter put out a video oh i didn't see that
and it's on sportsnet and it was well you know duncan keith didn't he told us he didn't know
he would have done something there's a there's actually like a a screenshot of it that's been
circulated i think the video has been taken down the screenshot yeah i didn't see the video
no accountability no pushback they don't push him on it okay well he's done this guy is above
reproach nick boynton brent sopel both pretty key members of that blackhawks team both said
everybody knew and this is disgusting paul vincent yeah got around 2014 a former teammate
of kyle beach chases him around the ice and calls him the homophobic f-word
but duncan keith along with jonathan tase and patrick kane did not know anything about what
happened in 2009 okay possible not plausible possible not plausible and here's where you
lose me forever and ever after the jenner and block report was issued the media turned to
duncan keith and asked him about it again and he said well i wasn't even interviewed
that's not a direct quote i'm paraphrasing i wasn't interviewed for it what he did not say
that night was that he turned down the request to be interviewed this summer and i would like
to define the word lie to you as in that was a lie a false statement made with the deliberate
intent to deceive an intentional untruth he did not tell you that he turned down the request he
merely said well i wasn't interviewed so you lied the reason he told you that the reason i told you
that was duncan keith lied if indirectly to everyone he misrepresented the role he refused
to play in the process of a sexual assault cover-up mr character mr leadership yeah but now
he's sorry and here's the part where this is the best part steve it's where he tripped over and he
found his conscience because you know what he said yes a couple days ago ryan rashad tweeted out we
also if he could do it again he would do it differently as in he'd have taken the interview
with jenner and block why duncan why would you have done that you told us you had nothing to add
what would you have added to the investigation that you knew nothing hey guys it's duncan i was
the assistant captain and i had no idea what the guys in the locker room were talking about ever
what do you think now that you could have added to the summer that you'd added to this
investigation this summer that you that you didn't think that you had this summer what do you think
now that coming forward and talking to them would have done and by the way the investigation's over
so that option's not even on the table but what is it now that you have to say duncan why don't
you come out and say it duncan and go ahead steve well i was let me throw this out there okay so do
it do it contact general block and say i want to talk do it i want to add to this do it don't say
you wish you did it do it good point do it i'm sure they'd be like okay call them up google that
shit put an addendum on it yeah here's what's happening the blackhawks of 0910 were among the
most successful organizations in the nhl at the time and for probably the better part of the next
decade they were also the most poisonous let's not forget this is the organization that employed
Bill Peters and stomped all over Akeem Aliyah's career at the same time that Kyle Beach's career
was being derailed. We shouldn't forget that. But if you were a star in that organization,
you were treated well. You were treated above. Your needs came first and you had no challenges
except for what was on the ice. And before I get the internet on me going, oh, this is crazy old
Adam making shit up. You need to look at Jonathan Taze's response to John McDonough and Stan Bowman.
he said they were both great men who did great things for him of course he said that that's
exactly what happened they made life comfy for tase for kane for keith and probably a couple
other players and of course those guys love bowman and mcdonough because the red carpet
was rolled out for them of course tase kane keith have a ton of respect for them because those guys
bent over backwards for the stars.
And of course, Taze, Kane, Keith
have zero perspective and feel
zero responsibility towards this incident
because they've never had to be
responsible or been held
responsible for anything other than
put puck in net.
Put puck in net. That is all you have to be responsible for.
And I've got news for you. And this is for
hockey players who might listen to this as well.
That ain't real life.
That's not how it works.
Despite what the Chicago Blackhawks
had Duncan Keith and Patrick Kane
and Jonathan Tays believe.
But Duncan Keith doesn't live in real life.
He's never had to.
Until now.
When he tripped and fell and found his conscience.
So, Duncan,
whether you had information to offer or not,
you made a choice that it was not worth your time.
The sexual assault of a former teammate
was not important enough
for you to even pick up the phone.
So I'm glad you've tripped and found your conscience.
because you know what it shows you've grown but i want to i want to shout out a couple french
radio interviews and i want to shout out a couple listeners here um alex in my dm specifically
maxim lapierre said that jonathan tase who he's respected his entire career no longer has his
respect and that is as a captain at that time had a duty to lead his team and and help this player
Antoine Roussel
Called Taze a great leader on ice
But a small human being
On Quebec radio
This week
This shit never makes it over in English radio
I'm surprised we don't translate more
It really is incredible
Duncan Keith is in that mix
Taze is the captain, I get it
But I'm glad that Duncan Keith
Tripped over and found his conscience
Shows growth
It's less than the bare minimum right now
As Steve said, he could call Jenner and Block
And have the interview anytime
it does show that he's capable of growth though i think that's important and i think we ought to
acknowledge it you'll never forget duncan if you're duncan keith you will never forget this
how you turn this down no matter how many cups you walk away with no matter how great it will be
eventually to go into the hall of fame which you undoubtedly will duncan keith when the stakes
truly got high you tase and kane back down not once but twice you knew about this 10 years ago
Because again, I think it's possible that you didn't know, but I don't think it's plausible.
So I'm going to go ahead and editorialize and say, I don't think so.
I don't believe that.
Maybe you're a great leader on the ice, but off the ice where it actually matters, you
are not.
And I hope that changes.
Until then, you've shown yourself and you are lacking.
So if we could knock off the great leadership and the great character shit for a little
bit. You showed up to camp
unvaccinated despite knowing what the
policies were. You huffed and puffed about it.
Huffed and puffed about it, and finally they twisted your
arm so you could get the vaccine. And the whole point
was just to protect your teammates.
And really, the fans
at large. That's the whole point. Two of whom
can't play hockey this season because of COVID.
One of them is your teammate.
Josh Archibald, right? Josh Archibald and
also Alex Stalob, who often gets lost
in the mix. I forgot about Alex Stalob. Sorry about that.
No, it's okay. So you, Duncan
keith miss part of training camp on your first season with a new team mr character mr leadership
because of that and you also couldn't find time in your busy summer schedule to pick up the phone
and talk to jenner and block for 20 minutes you have been seen you are lacking do something about
it that's my message dunking keith first of all that was awesome uh i saw your screen and i was
like wow adam has a lot of notes for this show i was so upset when i saw that quote he
so it's funny you brought up the hall of fame because i was talking to someone about that
like is this going to affect keith or taves or kane getting into the hall of fame no no
i don't know if it necessarily should because it's never been the hockey hall of great guys
yeah hockey hall of high character yeah like i probably make a giant list we could probably
make a good all-star team of guys who probably are shitty dude yeah look up look up bobby hall
yeah just look up bobby hall or hey look at the second headline under he scored a bunch of goals
yeah even better don't yeah yeah like it's it's bad trust us that it's bad um but what what i
what i immediately went to when i saw him say i i wish i handled it differently is it's not too late
so do it and you were talking about growth if he doesn't do it then he's still full of shit
and he didn't grow a lick when people talk about culture of entitlement
this is what they're talking about yeah yep i don't know how you you don't see that the black
hawks had a ran a poisonous operation that catered to their stars and you know jackie
redmond had a great rant on on the nhl network tara sloan spoke on this so eloquently a couple
nights ago on
Hometown Hockey in Belleville.
You know, it's
not like I'm the first person to bring it up.
Duncan Keith bothers me the most here, though.
Because Duncan Keith
is Mr. Leader Man.
It's also Eric.
Well, sure.
And the problem with that,
when you have an entitled approach, is you might
not even know it is.
That's what entitlement is.
And I
just
like it's bare minimum stuff and you know what duncan you made the mistake this summer
steve said it perfectly make the phone call call them up yeah i can respect that also hated each
other like mcdonough bowman and quenville were all infighting and they won despite themselves
because they always wanted to fire quenville but he kept winning stanley cups and they couldn't do
it we talked about it in the past remember um when um they traded nicholas holmerson
and quenville found out mid media availability and he stormed off and we were like oh man they
all didn't like each other and it was very toxic and like i don't i don't know like adam you put
it so eloquently like it was a terrible organization at the time but they kept winning
and they kept treating their stars like gold yeah so yeah i haven't heard brent seabrook's name
brought up at all no i haven't either suspiciously quiet now i stayed out of the brent seabrook thing
I didn't include him in that on purpose.
And Corey Crawford, because I just don't know.
But I know those three.
They're not around.
Corey Crawford wasn't there in 2010.
He was in...
Oh, that's right, because it was Niemi, right?
Yeah, he might have been in the organization.
I don't remember, but he wasn't with the Stanley Cup winning team.
Yeah, okay, that's fair.
Or he wasn't on the Stanley Cup winning team.
Seabrook was a major part of it.
But Seabrook, like, whenever anyone goes,
well, Taves was such a young captain at the time,
and okay, but I keep going back to that penalty box moment,
which has a different context now,
when taves was losing his cool in the penalty box and brent seabrook goes over to him and he
pats him on the shoulder because he was a leader it takes a committee to lead it can't just be one
guy so sorry keep going keep going sir well it's just if he was a leader then he is still a leader
right into if he was a leader in 2010 he's still a leader in 2010 and i just haven't heard his name
brought up. Well, and Nick Boynton and Brent
Sopel were both defensemen.
There's only six dressable defensemen
in each game. You think they don't chat?
Sopel. Sopel Warren, eh?
Sopel and Boynton
were defensemen. They would have been the second
pair, wouldn't they? Or Chalmerson would have been up there.
But even so.
You're asking me to do pairs. The top five is probably
Keith Seabrook.
Keith Seabrook, Olmerson. Sopel.
Sopel, Boynton. Whoever.
And I'm trying to remember. Sixth and seventh.
they played five guys that that uh that playoff so if i remember correct that was the later 2015
2015 where they couldn't play chemo team and uh yeah and it wasn't and it wasn't five it was three
yeah um so anyway that's my issue we'll leave for now this topic with with one more thing the
Wilkes-Barre Scranton head coach
who is being accused of
assaulting an assistant
coach's wife has been accused
of something else by somebody
else and that suit was filed
against the Penguins, specifically
Mario Lemieux. Bill Guerin is named
in the lawsuit and
I believe, yeah, the organization, Bill
Guerin, Mario Lemieux, other owners,
all of that. So that's number two now.
Number two
in terms of lawsuits.
And Garen is next in line for a Stan Bowman spot with Hockey USA.
Maybe.
Maybe.
There's a reason they haven't announced that yet, I think.
Yeah.
And this is not...
Anyway, so this just keeps going.
However, as we always say, we must take a hard right turn.

for there is good news and as much as it's hard to contrast what we just talked about
with what happened last night i would still like to talk about it because ultimately this
still is a hockey podcast and i like to talk about the fact that the leafs had a game where
mitch martin william neil and austin matthew scored all the goals and looked great looked
like they were having fun yeah sometimes it's funny there were people uh chirping on twitter
um and you know like it's like well they were playing the uh minor league affiliate of vegas
okay fair but the the leafs just lost to the wilkes-barre scranton whatever penguins last
week sometimes it's good when the thing that should have happened does right yeah they played
the sharks team that was uh had no rest we're coming off a back-to-back field versus that they
played the pittsburgh penguins who had no players lost versus that they play the chicago blackhawks
who are terrible garbage and
we're down to nothing like we
should they should win one
of all those games and now they won a game
they should have won yeah sometimes
annihilated Vegas and then
they did they did it they steamroll
the team that they should have steamroll yeah
how cool was that and
and I said it last show they played
from minute one to
minute 60 Matt's amazing came out
like first minute just blazing it was
amazing and Willie had the
one that just missed over Leonard's
glove hand. Was that in the first?
That was in the first two minutes of the game.
It could have been two goals for Willie too. So two for
Matthews, one for Marner, one for
Nylander. And I have to say
we were tough on Mitch Marner
in the playoffs last year. I think
we've been a little less tough this season because we know
that eventually he's going to score.
I don't think there's a
more satisfying goal I've ever seen
and I don't think I've ever been
happier for a player
to score not just the goal Mitch Marner scored
about how he scored it great goal oh jesus it's him that's a hat pick that's him that's it's him
it's him and it looked like he had a thousand mountains lifted off his shoulders
just yeah happy look like he was having fun i can't remember he's got his new teeth
he's got his yep i can't remember if we had time to talk about it last show
but the uh the game winner he scored against the team that they played most recently before
vegas who the hell was it detroit detroit the game winner that he scored against detroit thank you
um which was what are you counting as a game he scored it like the middle of the third and then
detroit it ended up being the game winner it wasn't like an overtime winner no but it's you
know what it was though was the insurance marker yes and like that should be i iced the game
and he didn't even look happy to score it then detroit scored and he was on the ice for it and
stick broke and he didn't he looked very upset about that and then they iced the game and they
finally win and it was a little wobbly but they won and he didn't even look happy about that
scores this goal against vegas oh shit oh you can tell and then matthews didn't just score
he scored a matthews goal two of them and then he got another one
good game and they were he matthews scored the way matthews scores once on the power play but
the shot the other one tight into the net and up high yep which that's a matthews goal willie with
his shot ah bunting excellent pass ah and part of the reason is because matthews with the d was the
decoy because everyone's like oh shit we have to cover him again ah it was awesome oh and campbell
with the shutout ah it was nice i had to i don't know you can't scream all the time but by the way
It looks as though
Jack Campbell
Who reported Jack Campbell's extension
Is being negotiated right now
And Jack Campbell was asked about it
And he didn't deny it
He said I would love to stay here
Which is great because we'd love to have him
Now I said to you guys last episode
I'd like to address something
I said to you guys last episode
Where's this going
The salary cap structure and all this
And I realized you know what it doesn't matter
If they play like this
I can enjoy this
and i'll just be along for the ride so i am backing off that if jack campbell signs for
20 million dollars a year fine cool someone else's problem it was an odd question because
it was like game 10 and i know where's the season going with the 70 games left i think my thinking
it wasn't the season it was it was beyond this season right and it was always about you know
the reason that they weren't playing well as they're losing they lose some key pieces because
they're paying other players a lot of money you know what i mean well listen it's nice to see
you say to Kyle Dubas when you sign the Morgan
Riley contract like well then you gotta
get rid of guys and he's like I know
yeah
Jack Campbell as a
Toronto Maple Leaf is 24
7 and 4 with a 9 2 2
and 3 shutout I think that's a guy you want
to hang on to that's his career
nice to get him a shutout too last night
he deserved it
that mattered why do you think
that mattered because if they played
that game the way that they
did and then allowed vegas to ruin the shutout in the final minute oh yeah it shouldn't completely
erase it and it certainly doesn't in the standings but i can tell you as a fan i would have been
pissed off it's kind of like uh there's certain video games you play where you get a mission
complete or if you do all the extra pieces you get the mission accomplished you know what i'm
saying you get the bonus marks i think that was the bonus mark i'm i'm gonna throw a red dead
out there now here we go it's like you're trying to get a perfect pelt and you and you track it
forever and you only get a two star nothing is more frustrating those fucking beavers at
owen gila i can never get the three star it's so hard anyway sorry it's so difficult i got
the varmint rifle and everything sorry i might have been playing red dead last night after
it's really difficult to get the beavers at owen gila you need to try far cry
i know it's outstanding you'll love it after i get the beers i have i have it then the new
call of duty there's like an object mission yes where you can be like a table and you're trying
to like evade everybody who's trying to shoot i've seen this video it's insane yeah i've just
been watching i've never played call of duty i've just been watching tiktoks of people be like
chairs and tables and they go into like lobbies and they're trying to sit there and so nobody
notices that this table is a person
and not an actual table.
I want to just play this mode of the game.
Do you want my copy? You can play my
copy of it if you want it. I can give you
my copy. Is that how
it works? Black Ops 3?
I don't know if you can still trade.
I don't know if you can still trade.
They have all the DRS, whatever,
DMC, things that block that.
I don't know. Well, it's a
fun game. Call of Duty
is always Call of Duty. It's
always fun. You can always have a good time on it
and you'll always get destroyed by some 12-year-old online
who's hacked it anyway.
Get shit on!
Get shit on!
Do you guys have anything else you want to add
other than, hey, the Leafs scored on the power play,
three best players scoring, buzzing all night,
pumped up for Marner especially?
Justin Hall is not in the lineup
and kind of, like, shouldn't be.
I think Keefe was right.
They're going to have to build him back up.
But I like, I don't mind this team
with justin hall as your seventh defenseman that's okay i do why two million bucks get out of here
uh like does it affect them now it doesn't change anything now this is off for off season we're not
talking about that we're talking about that later no that's later guys i want them to win this damn
year i know but also injuries are going to happen and justin hall is a great extra defenseman
and he was great early november yeah yeah you stick around that's fine but i tell you what
if it's the year 2022
and we're still like alright
this is our 7th best guy
get out of here
if your worry right now is the salary cap then that shouldn't be your concern
nope I agree
if winning this year is what you want to do
then having a great $2 million defenseman
as your actual defenseman is a good way to win
perhaps
perhaps
I mean I guess
this is how Leaf fans
are thinking
the story should be Lilligren looks
great and i'm like yeah no trade the other guy he's he sucks he's gone no uh the story here is
lilligren has arrived he has arrived he looks really good and i'm excited um i think their
next couple games are tampa and boston yeah tomorrow night or no not tomorrow night let's go
this is great yeah we the we i want to see how the leafs stack up to this challenge
did i read a stat that am i wrong did has keith coached against boston before no he's never
coached a leaf game against boston that was his first game against vegas and his first game against
boston comes up this weekend isn't that nuts because he took oh when he took over in 2019
they finished all their games versus boston and then the pandemic happened and they only
played canadian team yeah i was on the broadcast that was also crazy um who's the coach for vic
um who's the coach for vegas uh gerard galant gerard not gerard galant what am i doing
deborah deborah deborah that was also pete deborah's first game versus toronto
yeah as vegas coach as vegas yeah i was about to say jesus he's been around forever coached
eight years or whatever but that's nuts as vegas that's how long it's been since we have seen
boston and toronto face off yeah and it feels like yesterday i see it every day
it's kind of cool isn't it
yeah it was a cool little fact
I didn't think
anyway I often don't
has he been the key this whole time
Keefe? yeah Sheldon Keefe is the key to beating Boston
listen if they play against teams
like they did last night
they will be a tough team to beat every night
that was great Leafs
let's see it against a team who has
all of their players
I agree but all the same
I want to give props where it's due
Everybody's on me about being too hard on the Leafs this year
So I'm giving props where they're due
They are due
I also do want to stick up for Alex Petrangelo a little bit
Because everyone's pointing at how shitty his numbers are
Who's he playing with?
Nobody
The Vegas Golden Knights
What I said in the video is the Vegas Golden Knights don't have anybody right now
Who make the Golden Knights who they are
Right, yes
They don't have any of the main Golden Knights
Except him
He's one of them
But dude, the team in front of them sucks
well he's trying to do everything out there yeah why might that be because he's far and away their
best player and they're just barely treading water right now did none of you watch the playoffs
that gets why are we what when did they're we're supposed to have referendums about cody cc not
alex petrangelo what the what is this yeah and if you're saying that and then the same breath
saying to me hey it's only 10 games in have you guys taken a look at the standings no not really
a little bit still sits uh a top near the top of the division in third place with 11 points love
that um you know who's blowing me away and we'll talk about them because they relate to buffalo
is the calgary flames um very uh understated amazing start six one and two they lost they
had a six game win streak so they lost uh lost one in overtime and one not in overtime and then
won six straight and then had it snapped last night wow and on a questionable sort of goal
but um they are one of the two potential landing spots for jack eichel according to emily caplan
again on fire right now who uh she's she's been the lead on she's been insane yeah it's insane
Calgary Flames Vegas Golden Knights and I guess according to Emily Kevin Adams hasn't gotten the
offer that he wants yet so those two I guess are offering the most my question to the two of you
is do you take the offer that's the highest or do you keep waiting because obviously you know we
said before the season man it's gonna be a big distraction apparently it's not yeah i think the
there's gonna be pressure from the league to get this done they need a win they need a win bad
they have five of them in nine games and like do you mean the league needs oh the league needs a
distraction the league needs who needs to look better the sabers or the league
but like if an eichel trade happens then a lot of people are talking about an eichel trade and not
your disastrous press conference does does it not make sense for gary betman to go you know what if
you did take the deal what if you traded him immediately and gotten people to talk about
anything else anything hockey related ever you know he wants it oh yeah he wants it very very
bad i mean i want it i want jack eichel to get his fucking surgery yeah and both teams are
comfortable by the way yeah well they better be certainly hope so i wonder if he could still make
the olympics uh emily kaplan talked about that and it's pretty unlikely it's a shame it's not
impossible this is why skipping olympics is wrong it's wrong because he would have been in the last
one wouldn't you uh oh yeah there's there's a bunch of guys who like when we're talking about
steven stamkos in the hall of fame i don't think he'll ever have an olympic appearance
this year you don't think he's gonna make the team this year he'll make the team this year
you think i think he's gonna make the team the donuts on that oh is that a donut are you are you
i don't know i don't know if you believe the other side no i need to do more research yeah
because i don't know don't he's been really good that's like a donut lock there i think yeah yeah
i think what he had 12 points in nine games or something like that yeah but you told me he's
dog shits it's also the thing you just said hey stamkos has missed so many olympics the guys the
old hockey guys are an old hockey guy hit and put in the guy who's missed a bunch of olympics and
they owe also he rises to the moment he played five shifts in the stand like a final and scored
so man he should have been on the 2010 team yes he should as a kid yeah i i i keep saying it's
the best commercial that never saw the light of day was the nike commercial for if he made that
team and then he broke his leg before sochi no nhl players went in 2018 now it's 2022 this has
to be it if he doesn't make this team that's it yeah next one or or he surprises us all and goes
huh i'm steven stamkos and he's just a hard grizzled i'm steven stay i love following players
as they get older from the beginning because i'm steven stamkos and now he's like i'm i'm steven
mankos i'm a man yeah i i saw him like the summer he put on all that weight like his first gary
roberts summer and i was like holy holy scary man i think what was he he was dead lifting i think i
saw six or seven hundred pounds is that what i am i right on that i believe it was crazy that doesn't
sound free i know it doesn't sound real let me let me look it up let me like steven stamkos
deadlift what was it 500 pounds on a trap bar damn i got up to 250 at my best wow
and you got to watch him do it
because he does it in like street clothes
and a hat backwards
doesn't break a sweat either
that's a good captain
I love Stamkos
that is a Gary Roberts video from 2013
Gary Roberts has his own YouTube channel
his own network of
got his own network of workout
podcasts
Gary
Roberts podcast network
he just stares at a microphone menacingly
it's not the best listen but you understand do you think that we could have him on sometime
probably i'd love to talk to him about so like carrie what do you do tell me what you do to
these kids to scare them into eating properly and working out that hard why'd you try to fight
an alumni game yeah what's wrong let's put him and drapes together in the same uh um uh really
quickly before we get into our announcement here adam fox big long contract special defensive
player i don't think there's been a defenseman in the rangers organization this impactful since
brian leach i think that's fair some might argue ryan mcdonough but even even this guy was run
make was mcdonough a norris guy though was gonna win a norris trophy brian leach was spectacular
special yeah i don't even a hall of famer the oh that's a good question who knows by the end of it
But the only guy who enters the conversation other than Leach, I think.
McDonough.
And in terms of popularity, I don't know if I've seen a Rangers player outside of Henrik
ever this popular besides Henrik and then before that, Brian Leach and maybe Mark Messier.
I was about to say.
You know, like, but like, think about that.
You ever heard of Gretzky?
Yeah, yeah.
But, but, you know, you know what I'm saying?
So there's all of that.
So congratulations to Adam Fox.
Congrats even more to Rangers fans who were super pumped.
Now, Jesse, before we do that, I want to do a hockey thing that I saw in the NHL media email that I get sent out every day.
Okay.
It regards Phil Kessel, so I think we need to bring it up.
Okay.
The Coyotes and Flyers game featured four of NHL's top seven active Ironman streaks among players with one minimum game,
including Keith Yandel, who's played 930 games played, and Phil Kessel, 910 games played, who owns the longest active run.
I think we owe Phil Kessel a round of applause.
Yes, we do.
Oh, yeah.
910 games.
Unbelievable.
Phil Kessel, Toronto legend.
Thank you.
Congratulations, Philbert.

Did you see the video of Ryan Reeves scaring the shit out of him?
No.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I retweeted it.
Yeah, that was great.
Oh, my God.
That was funny.
Okay, so, Jesse.
Yes.
I'm turning it over to you because it's a Jesse announcement from the SDPN.
well um our announcement is that we have come out with our own app it is the sdpn app
you can download it right now in the oh yeah i don't know if the camera can see that it can
you can download it right now in the app store and the google play store
so i don't know a little backstory before we get into it uh one if you're a small business
out there there's the technology and the internet is so amazing because there's so many companies
that'll help you uh act like a big company like so this app is made through a company called build
fire and they allow small businesses to build these apps that are um they're pretty great like
i'm pretty happy with the way the app came out and like everything we did on on their platform
to build this app and like if you're a small business like go go research some of these tools
that exist for you online that allow you to do these things like have an app for your company
and like we can store all our videos there and and there's news i'll get into that but yeah so
so research do some research because the internet's amazing and then secondly the reason behind the
app is so that um everything's better for you listening the user experience because one thing
we've we've had a problem with is that uh the youtube channel isn't the best place to consume
more videos because we upload so much we do all our full episodes and then we do a whole bunch of
clips and then we go live and so during the summer like when this was all happening i thought i was
gonna have this ready for like the uh the start of the season it was supposed to launch with cj
it was supposed to launch with cj and amazon and all that and then i started building it and i'm
like it's just so difficult to do this so i need a couple more weeks and it turned out to be like
a month and a half so we're finally here but like the user experience for you guys watching
because we're launching so many shows we have uh four right now four ish if you have depending on
how you're counting if you count game over five five shows we have five shows and then um but like
you can't subscribe to notifications on a youtube channel because you'll be bombarded all the time
so we most people turn off the notifications when you subscribe you also don't have to turn it off
you can always leave it on yeah you can leave it on too yeah but so now with the app all of our
shows are in one place audio and the video and if you want to subscribe to each individual show
you can and it's set up through um our rss feeds on the podcast so if you listen to agent provocateur
once somebody uploads the audio and they the episode is live it just pumps it out right
through the app and you get a notification to your phone that there's a new episode for that
show. If the Steve Dango podcast, once we upload today's podcast, it just bloops to the app and
it tells you, hey, it'll beep to your phone. There's a new podcast, Steve Dango podcast.
It bloops and it beeps.
It bloops and it bleeps. So it's not me sitting there bugging you with notifications to your
phone. It's just automatically when the show goes up, you get a notification. And then now you can
see all of our shows and whichever shows you like, because we're going to be adding so many more
eventually down the line. Now there's a place where they can all live. And yeah, so the whole
point of the app is for the user experience and on the app there's you find all the shows plus
there is a news feed so on the news feed i've created an aggregate of the top stories from
each major sport so it's not we don't create our own news we don't have we don't have writers yet
we don't have writers yet it's a it's down the line but so right now on our app you can find
news from around the sporting world from every major internet outlet if you want to go to hockey
news you'll find all of the major hockey outlets and they're just aggregated we don't control it
just comes up as they're posted on these different sites you can find one location on our app uh i'm
looking at here hockey basketball football baseball soccer golf tennis and motorsport and mma yes and
that and that includes like it's not just nhl content the hockey news is hockey from the women's
side and hockey from the men's side it's just hockey news same with the basketball same with
all same with tennis and golf and all the other news we provide there so we have a news channel
there as well plus we launched this new cool thing it's called sdpn radio and it's our archive
of shows because we've the show the podcast is eight years old we have a lot of shows yeah so
i threw them all into a radio player and now all of our shows just play on loop 24 7 and you can
tune in live and you don't know what you're getting you i don't know what's coming up next
it's on shuffle so it's just all of our shows it's a live radio feed and if you want to tune in
you can you can just listen to whatever episodes playing at the time it's a really cool thing
because i was going through some of the old episodes and like in there is our at the end of
2019 we did a whole bunch of predictions and best ofs and i can't wait for those to pop up for people
who are listening because like you'll see what we thought of what's going to happen in the next
decade or like our look back of that year of the leafs and uh i picked a lot of our like highlight
episodes that a lot of people haven't heard so um just like a lot of the long-running bits like
the smart insider man episode is plugged in there a couple times so it'll come more often in the
feed oh that's cool yeah yeah so people who don't know the inside jokes that have taken place for
five years just tune into sbn radio you might hear a good little uh bit from five years ago and
it might you might enjoy it so yeah you can tune that in anytime and it works just like you're
playing music from your phone so you can close the app and you'll get the radio playing plus
i'm hoping in the next month or so when game over goes live on youtube it will also go to
sdp on radio so if the youtube is a little limiting when you are if it's on your phone
because unless you have youtube premium you can't close the app and do other things right so i'd
love the audio feed to be live streamed to sdp on radio so look out for that in the next month or
so i'm gonna get andrew set up on that so that'll blast right through to our radio and then it's
just like we're this is terrestrial radio you know it's through the internet and if you want
to listen to game over after a montreal canadians game you can tune into our radio station you can
get a post game so that'll be coming in the next few that'll be coming in the next few months that's
a new feature and then the last thing about the app so we have the uh all of our content radio
we have the news and then we have a new shop so we have stpn shop.ca.store what's there is that
actually what it is no it's not.store stpn shop.ca we launched a brand new shop today a whole bunch
of new merch for the first time ever we have a whole cj show collection we have a game over we
have a new game over logo i'm gonna change the album art too because i love this little guy we
uh i i got a did a little clip art thingy with him so we have a new game over uh logo with a
little game over alien yeah i love him he's so you need to name him yeah you know what we should
have a competition to name him yeah we can do it on our discord yeah it's a great idea so we have
some game over merch we have some new sdpn merch um for our live stream and like for the podcast
new dang we have a new dangle navy alt logo so we have a new crest we have a cj hoodie that just
says coberg yeah so and it's cj with coberg in the background yeah so we have uh we have official
cj coberg merch and then and then so good and obviously um julian calls him big money cj so
there's a bitcoin labeled big money cj love that uh thing with julian and cj's face on it which i
love love love
oh my god
it's so good
like so ridiculous
oh my god Jesse
that's okay yeah so
anybody watching you can see it right now go to
sdp and shop.ca
you can see all of our new merch
there and the whole CJ
collection yeah so that's
our that's our Coburg
hoodie
yeah that hoodie I want that hoodie too
yo straight up this summer
we're gonna have cj do like a top five special episode of places to go in coburg and i'm gonna
make julian do it in montreal julian and andrew can do it in montreal and as we add more people
across the country we'll have everybody do it because i think we need to have things like that
in the summer where it's like hey come see my city and having him do coburg would be perfect
i like the stick tap shirt too yeah coburg mug yeah the the coburg mug and the coburg tote are
my favorite you know because it feels so um kitschy you know you go into a i envisioned it
like you went into a gift shop in coburg 100 there's a there's a tote bag with cj on it that's
what i envisioned this this merch to be so yeah we can get that on our site sdbn shop i'm gonna
get some jesse pants i also want to get a julian baseball t-shirt yeah we got a little julian
julian's face um and like there's just so much happening here that's very exciting and um you
know it's it's kind of fun the the great stuff the great thing is like the the actual track
pants the ones that i bought that say dangle navy on them i those are the only track pants i wear
now i have roots ones i have other ones uh and it's because they're champion and i don't get
too hot in them but just hot enough to keep the old leggies warm um and uh you know it's just it
i don't know i i was like gonna go to the store and like buy hoodies and stuff like that and i'm
like why would i go to the store i'll just we have we make some really good yeah yeah we do we do
it's great and there is an adams history corner long sleeve shirt and i just want to throw that
out there so if you feel like and it comes in black heather navy maroon red heather deep teal
athletic heather white if your name is heather this is the shirt i like your mug your mug is a
good which one is that uh so you go to the mugs and bottle section the one with your face on it
the big one of you smiling you like that one that's a good mug oh that oh that fits there's
some good stuff and and actually i really like the uh the uh the other thing i love is the phone
accessories that the crab people sdpn phones there's socks i'm wearing those computer stickers
there's actually a framed poster um yeah the sdpn uh i'm gonna get the phone case too need to get
the phone case you get the phone case mrs dangle has one yeah i guess i need one this is the one
that came with my she has the 90s logo phone case yeah yeah yeah that's a good one yeah oh yeah you
see all the purchases too i got them beeped to my phone that's right so so anyway it's right
yes yes yes how impressive is jesse extremely impressive well we're not done i don't want to
focus on that oh i would like to no let's do you want to do the website yeah do the website
okay you haven't even done that yet because we haven't done that yet that's that's the last thing
was uh i updated the site a bit so now the site's kind of like it's a destination you can do stuff
on the site you can get all our news um on the home page we got a little ticker of just the new
content from all of our shows it uh it's all right there so you can find it whenever there's a new
episode plus links to the app links to our twitch um to get all your shows you can watch it right
from our site um and then yeah we got a couple teasers on there if you go check out if you're
watching the video right now you'll see uh the teasers for the upcoming shows that might be
coming up but if you are listening go visit the site and you get an exclusive thing there
plus please subscribe to our email list we send out uh discount codes and uh you get the
information before everyone else i'm getting there steve's pointing at something you get your
i didn't know we had those yet you get the information before anyone else if you're on our
email list so please subscribe and then the last thing i will hit on if you guys will let me uh is
when you go to sdpn.ca
slash donate
we have a new thing there
we have uh three trading
cards it's the first edition of these
trading cards oh now
if you steve is raising
money for easter seals ontario correct
rachel's raiders if you
make a hundred dollar donation to
easter seals ontario through our site so
you go to our site you go to sdpn.ca slash
donate you purchase a trading
card the trading card is a hundred
dollars so the hundred dollars goes
directly to easter seal that's it it's gone we don't make money off actually we lose money off
of this but then but just know that the money is going to the right place yes so uh you make
a hundred dollar donation to easter seals by purchasing one of our trading cards or all three
or whatever you want and you will get a trade i'll in the next three weeks they ship in three weeks
um i will send off a trading card to your house it'll be in a little a nice little case and steve
adam and myself will sign it it'll be a signed trading card or if you just want uh the whichever
one of us to sign our own okay how about that you we only get to sign our own trading cards
or do you want the whole team to sign each one that's a tough one well because that's
that's a lot it's a lot of signatures for one card right yeah so each of so whichever one you
you uh you purchase that person will write a little message on the back and sign it and then
we'll ship that off to you you are a smelly bum that's our thank you for donating to easter
deals if you make a hundred dollar donation you get a free trading card and that's the last thing
okay now can i say you're so impressive you're so impressive well done buddy well thank you
we are all impressive we all have our own talents and this is the talent i bring to the table of our
company i get to do these things and i get them set up and then they run i would like to point
out something that we haven't done yet we haven't looked there is a list of if you go to the sdpn.ca
homepage there is a list of
shows that we have
Steve Dangle
podcast and that shows Steve Dangle's channel
as well because I don't know if you know Steve Dangle
kind of a big part of what we're doing here
I'm new here Chris Johnson show game over
Montreal agent provocateur
and then it says black tile
there's like a black tile that's empty
no show logo launching next month
