That is a one and eight to get one of those.
What do you guys got?
I got, I think this is very appropriate.
A Drake Batherson sensational Selly's car.
I thought it was going for dinner with Drake Bathers.
Okay, fine.
I have Nikita Kutrov, Zach Hyman, and a sellys also, Logan Cooley.
Love that.
Now, going to dinner at Tim Hortens.
That's right.
Now here's the deal.

Hockey season is back, which means your schedule just got a whole lot busier.
Ours definitely did.
Yes, it did.
I mean, Jesse's at the games all the time.
Steve's up late doing LFRs.
I'm doing streams and Steve's doing streams.
It's just crazy.
It's fun though.
It's amazing.
We're very, very lucky.
But here's the thing.
If you've got a busy life and kids and things going on,
Factor makes real meals, all fresh, never frozen,

When time's tight, this is what you need.
We're talking chicken pesto, steak with veggies,
roasted salmon, meals that feel like they were cooked for you, not by you, and they're delicious.
You had me at Pesto.
Isn't the Pesto?
I know it's great.
Real food, great flavor, and the kind of meals that actually support the work you are putting in to your life.
So if time or cost or effort are holding you back from eating better, Factor just took all of those off the table.
And Jesse, I know you love them every time you go to the Leafs.
I absolutely love the Fusili Shrimp Alfredo.

S. D.
P.P.
The Steve Dangle podcast.
With your host, Steve Dangle, Adam Wild, and Jesse Blake.
Do not touch that phone.
I want to look.
No.
I want to see.
Biggest news of the day.
Oh!
And, you know, because it's Connor Hellebuck day.
And it involves the Leaps.
What?
The Leifes have recalled Dakota Murmiss and Cole McWard from the Marley.
I'm going to beat you on.
Nick Blankaberg and Marshall Rify moved to the IR.
Cole McWard.
Cole McWard.
I don't even know who that is.
Who he play for?
I guess the Leaves.
Now, in all, no.
Seriously, Connor Hellebuck has been traded to who, Steve Dangle.
We don't know.
no the return yet.
Apparently there is a third team.
This is the day he stops,
he stops giving away $40,000 a day
or having it suspended away from him.
I made my prediction on Twitter
and it was wrong and immediately wrong
because like as soon as I tweeted it,
people were like, actually, and then somebody said,
what was your prediction?
Well, it will eliminate a big, big one.
Okay, well, okay, mine is Buffalo.
Mine was Buffalo too.
Ah, nuts.
Jesse, who would have been your prediction
before today, before we found out?
Carolina.
Oh, good one.
I thought it was going to be Carolina.
And today it is the New Jersey Dolly.
Ah, that was my second guess.
Yes.
You're just going to have to believe me.
And I mean, Nico Does and, it's not a Curious Schmidt anymore,
Nico Dawson.
Oh, Jake Allen.
Jake Allen.
You know, listen, respectfully, that was never going to be the long-term thing.
No.
We don't know anything else about this trade right now.
So we're going to find out as we're recording, you know, what happens.
You should have seen the pandemonium about 15 minutes ago.
Don't check your phone.
Don't check your phone.
He's telling me this via phone.
By the way.
Well, you were on voice to text.
I was on voice to text.
And I was just letting the notifications pile up.
Max Miller,
assuming, obviously, he was healthy,
the Metro would have Shasturkin, Sorokin,
Hellebuck Thompson.
Goodness gracious.
Pretty good.
That's all right.
Pretty good.
And Dan Vladar Joseph Wall.
Come on.
That is actually.
That is actually a solid.
It's a solid tandem.
It's a great pair.
I poop.
Joseph Wall and Dan Vlad are a little early on in the season,
but they have been absolutely phenomenal.
They have.
Like a large reason that Philly's been in any games early on
when they weren't winning any games was Joseph Wall.
And his numbers,
like his advanced numbers have been fantastic.
It's about will Joseph Wall be around come the end of the season?
That's the question from Lee's fans.
But for now, he's been great.
Oh, people keep going, oh!
And I'm like, no, I never said he was bad in the games he played in.
No, no.
Yeah.
We don't trust him.
It's the games he doesn't play in,
which is more of them.
It's too many of them.
That was the problem.
Now,
Connor Hellebuck, like we said,
he will now be getting $40,000 a day
back to his normal salary as of today.
A victory for the little guy.
It was sort of funny.
There was a lot of talk about,
well,
the winter classic,
and what if he comes and he starts warming up
and blah, blah, blah.
I'm like, guys, who,
whatever they're calling it,
the Heritage Classic?
It's the Canadian.
Heritage.
Who cares?
I care about the game.
No one cares about the Connor Hallibuck,
and people are acting like this
with some sort of the game,
made it some sort of soft deadline. It is not.
No. But it is, and I think it's fair to say this off the top, before we even know what
the trade is, a monumental failure of player and agent to exit a team. There is nothing wrong
with asking for a trade. I don't even have a problem with you giving them three teams on a
no trade list like Dylan Larkin did. It's hilarious, but it's not illegal. And the players have
collectively bargain that right.
And if you're a big baby about it and you go on your big platform and go, well, they should
wait for everybody.
That's not the way life works.
Sorry, you're not going to like everything.
And what I find fascinating about this is the fact that this is a guy who is objectively
far and away, maybe never to be repeated, the best gold tender in franchise history,
including the old jets.
Oh, Bob Asenza would like a word.
Like who?
The Boolean wall would like a word.
Nobody has, nobody, nobody, nobody even close.
Oh, you mean the thrashers?
No, I mean the Jets.
Oh, even the Boulin Wall.
Kari, Lettin would like a word.
Nobody, nobody has a, uh, holds a candle to what Connor Hellebuck has done.
No, he's, and he's, uh, three Veznas is basically a Hall of Fame lock.
Yes.
So.
And it took him 10 weeks to make that legacy kind of murky now.
Not that the play is murky, but I always think about.
this guys and Jesse I think about the Vince Carter
returned to Toronto. They were able to mend fences
there. Think about the Brady Kachuk return to
Ottawa guys. How is that
the second biggest story of this show? Connor Hellebuck.
Wow. Connor Hellebuck
orchestrated a trade
and I think perhaps the even worse
than Larkin and the worst way I've ever seen it
because he didn't show up and nobody respects
that. Devil's advocate.
Hallibuck got traded. To the devils.
Hey. Who advocated
for it. Devil's advocate. There's the show title right
there. But
one of those men have gotten what they wanted.
And one of those men is also
Dylan Larkin.
Right? Who I'm now convinced wants to be a Red Wing
because of how stupid his list is.
He's gotten paid the whole time.
But he hasn't gotten what he wanted.
Right.
What he wanted is a ticket off of the team that he's on.
Hellebuck.
He lit a million dollars on fire,
but let's not pretend like he lives the same life as us.
You know, he doesn't.
He'll live.
he's fine.
And now he's going to New Jersey.
And,
uh,
I mean,
what he's really got to do to put icing on this cake is when?
He's still going to look stupid if the devil suck.
Yeah.
But I think we'd all be fairly surprised.
Right.
Yes.
I,
I would be shocked if he wasn't good.
Although Jesse,
you did make this point.
We've made this point many times before a goaltender,
Mrs.
training camp,
all bets are off,
right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Who knows what you're getting out of this player that hasn't played in the professional
hockey league in, what is it, since May, April?
I guess it.
Did they make the plan?
No, they didn't make the play?
No, no, definitely not.
That's like six months.
Yeah, it's been a long time.
He's been training this whole time.
He's trying to stay warm and everything.
But there's such a difference, like, between playing the actual games and training
with your buddies wherever you can.
Jeremy Swayman is a very, very, very, very, very good goalie.
And he missed camp and maybe a couple games.
I can't remember a few years ago.
he wasn't good.
Next year he had camp, he was good.
So I've always, because we don't know the package yet,
but I've always wondered if one of these teams is willing to actually do this trade with Shevoldeoff,
if the package drops a little because they're unsure of what player they're getting.
Remember we were trying to figure out once he had this return to play thing happening,
if he was going to like do a conditioning stint,
if he was going to get into AHL games so that he can prove to these other teams that are still good.
And now none of that has happened.
and Sunny Meda is going in blind with this deal.
He just has to be sure that Connor Hellebuck can be who he was without any proof.
So there's a couple things here.
I think the devil's obviously trusted their goalies enough to go into the season this way.
So maybe that's they're like, you know what?
We're going to ease Connor Hellebuck in, but it's okay.
We trust these guys.
Assuming neither of them go in the deal.
I think one of them would probably go to, I'm assuming the third team involved, and we don't know who that is yet.
But whether it's Dawes or whether it's Allen, I assume Allen, you know, they can tandem, they can platoon.
Hallibuck could even be the backup for like a little bit.
But so does that mean that the price shouldn't have been you're paying for a Vesna Hart Trophy winner?
No, you should absolutely.
Well, okay.
Those are two different things.
I'm putting that into the negotiation about like, hey, I'm not getting this guy who's stepping in and being a number one goal tender and playing every single game.
I'm getting a guy who has to be a tandem goalie for this next little bit.
Now, Jesse, here's what I would say to that.
If I were negotiating with you, I would be like, cool, then continue on with Jake Allen and Nico Doss.
And I would say I'm fine with that because I like Nico Daz.
He's got like four.
He's got like four point eight years left, right?
Like this isn't a trade just for this season.
You want to perform well this season, especially on account of he's 33, right?
Like there's no guarantee he ever gets back to that heart trophy winner.
But a heart winner and a Vesna winner are different.
A heart trophy winners, that's the best player in the league.
They have a lot of value.
Vesan trophy winners are goalies.
And for some reason, goalies have no value, which is really weird.
And I've never understood it because there are some.
so many times where hockey could just be called goalie.
Here's what I'm trying to think of.
Oh, and I have my answer.
When was the last time a goalie won the Vesna and was traded within two years of winning the Vesna?
And the answer is actually Mark Andre Fleury, who was traded for, I'm assuming, a lot less than what the jets are about to get for Helibuck.
Here's what I was wondering this morning.
And I don't, I don't, can you pull up the standings?
Particularly for the east.
because there was a really spicy clip on Buffalo Sports Radio this morning.
Like they're getting restless.
Lukinen is having a horrible start to his second wildcard spot.
So New Jersey's in the second wildcard.
I mean, it's obviously too early to really take this stuff seriously.
But that's okay.
It's still also probably not where they want to be.
Where's Buffalo right now?
They are in their 10 points, so they're two points back.
Two points back.
So neither team is exactly dominating.
I think that's probably a bigger deal for Buffalo than New Jersey on account of Buffalo just dominated.
So what you're getting here is like the Winnipeg Jets, I'm sure they want to win.
Yeah.
But it's not absolutely critical.
Like what are the expectations of the Winnipeg Jets really?
I mean, that's part of the reason why Hellebuck wants out, I assume.
Yeah.
Right?
whereas Buffalo
like eventually
someone on his list is going to get desperate
and when I saw
all that stuff coming out of Buffalo this morning
I was like okay here's the first shoe
this is good news for Kevin Chevaldeoff
but is that how it ends up shaking out
I don't know I don't know
that's a really good question I listen
I do wish Buffalo all the best
they've had a fun run
but the second you hired Yarmouka-Kalina is your general manager,
you consigned yourself to the dustbin of history.
I mean, Uka-Pagalukin has got like an 850.
That's not going to continue.
Listen, failure or mediocrity follows Yarmu around.
And I know that it was a fun run last year, but I'm not a believer yet.
And so now, the fact that he didn't get this deal done at the draft,
I think is the biggest one.
You know, when you consider, you know, they got that fourth overall pick.
and I think they made a great pick with it.
Like I'm not saying that they did something wrong
and it was pretty cool.
Oh, Buffalo.
Yeah.
Like it was cool.
All of it was cool.
What you needed was Connor Hellebuck.
That's what you needed.
And you also hemorrhaged a couple of pretty key players.
Tuck and,
and Bo Byram.
And I say key with Bo Byron because obviously Dahlian and Power and those guys are better.
But my point is you didn't really go out and replace that.
So for me in Buffalo, like this is a swing and a miss moment for them.
Well, I've always thought it's fine for Buffalo because they went into the offseason with four goaltenders.
And then now they're down to three and one of them's going to come back and hopefully play well.
That's Alex Lyon.
I'd be a lot more worried about the Levi stuff.
Yeah, like, so they go into the off season.
They have Levi Ellis, Lukinen, and Alex Lyon.
And they say, okay, we're going to lose Levi on waivers.
We got to send him over to Edmonton.
And so they do that one.
And then they stick with the three goalies because they end up falling through with that Hellebuck trade at the draft.
And right now, they're still in a place where they got to wait and see what Lion delivers once he comes back.
And he might be the best goalie out of the three they have right now.
So I think they're in an okay spot.
Well, if he fails then, then it's like we've gone down the list and all of them have failed.
You should have done something better.
But I still think they're in an okay spot to just see what Lion has.
Should they have held on to Devon Levi, Jesse?
So that's a conversation about like maybe he should have been amongst the three you kept.
Yeah.
But how can you know that's the easy one to move off of because of the waivers?
The league's really fun right now.
Like I saw a tweet this morning like, what would we do without Devin Levi?
He's absolutely incredible.
And I'm like, clickety clackly clackly clack.
Didn't he allow five goals last?
But it's the Edminton Oilers.
Yeah.
Right.
Now all they need is a goalie to stop five goals.
As long as he doesn't allow the sixth.
This is the Edmontoneman.
And an Oilers, like, winning method.
Yeah.
Right.
So, like, talking about Buffalo for a second,
because I know they're obviously involved in the conversation at very least,
I think Carolina and the way they won the Stanley Cup is a huge outlier.
Like, going with Freddie Anderson, who was objectively terrible.
Like, he was awful last regular season.
Comes into the playoffs is obviously very, very good.
He falters.
He gets hurts.
There's a lot going on there.
Bussie comes in.
He won a lot of games for you in the regular season.
He should be able to win some games for you in the playoffs.
He does.
It's enough to win the cup.
Great.
All this talk about like the Sabers, there's save percentage from last year.
That number keeps getting brought up.
It was top three in the league.
I can't remember what it was.
It was very good.
Okay.
Who's your goalie?
No, no, no.
I know you have a good tandem.
Who's your goalie?
A couple years ago, Leifes had Stollers and Wall and no one could beat either of them.
Who's your goal?
Woolly. Well, it was Stollers. Got hurt.
Wool was good, though. There shouldn't be that big of a drop-off. And then who's your goalie?
For the most part, you need to know who your goalie is unless you're in a special situation like people are probably yelling at the screen right now talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Dude, young Matt Murray and prime Mark Andre Fleury.
Crazy. What are we talking about?
Crazy.
It's different. Yeah. Right.
Braden Holtby, what are we talking about?
2019 Jordan Bennington, what are we talking about?
Andre Vasselowski, what are we talking about?
Sirga Barovsky, what are we talking about?
You need a goalie, right?
So are you going back too far?
Isn't it the new thing to not have a goalie to just have a couple guys?
Like, Aiden Hill last year.
It's like, okay, he's our guy, but we'll, or sorry, Aiden Hill.
Carter Hart last year, and then we have, we'll just ride.
him and he's our goalie for now and then if we need to move off of him we won't that's stand
like a final was two teams with bad tannums right straight up and then and then the year before that
like bobrowski's on the other end he's your example of like hey who's your goalie need a goalie
and then but on the other side is who is Stuart skinner maybe skinner pickered and then it was
skinner pickard I think there's multiple ways to win maybe you're right maybe you're right maybe
you're right well who finishes higher New Jersey or Buffalo this is now my money's
on Jersey. It's, it's always, like it's, we don't even know the return yet, but we, you know,
it's funny talking about the team that missed out, because what I assume is going to come out
of this conversation again. Hey, maybe Buffalo's involved. Maybe Buffalo's involved. And maybe it's
great for them. But also like, remember for when this gets clipped, time stamp this, I don't know
the return yet. I'm assuming Buffalo, when this is all said and done, had the best package.
That one at the draft? Yes. Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't think it's going to be that level.
It's the fourth overall pick.
Yeah.
And they would, so like Winnipeg would have had to swap that eighth pick or whatever,
but I still think like that would have been the best package.
Oh, was that the thing that caught it?
It was the pick that ended up being Vigo Bjork.
Yeah, that's what we talked about a couple weeks ago.
Yeah, that's too high of an ass.
They didn't, they didn't want to have to move up and not have the Bjork pick as well.
They wanted to keep.
Well, I agree.
I honestly, I don't think that.
If I were the Jets, I wouldn't have taken that either.
Yeah.
You're giving me the first round pick clean.
So this is a three-time Vesna winner.
Are you out of your mind?
What was Bjorke?
You want me to give you a top 10 pick for your top 10?
Fuck off.
Bjork was 8th, 9th?
Yeah, 8th or 7th or 8th, something like that.
Whatever it was.
8?
I believe.
So, like, what is the cost?
Like, I'm trying to think of other times.
He also seems to be one of the picks of the first round.
Like the picks?
Like, he's saying he's really.
No, no, but like, you know.
Like Albert Smith has made the team.
That kid in Analymes.
I missed the kid in Anaheim who's made the team to, uh, that def-
is it,
is a,
slap off.
Yeah.
Like,
there's like,
there's a couple of guys every first round.
You're like,
wow,
that guy went later and he's pretty damn good.
Easton count.
Yeah,
Easton count.
Well, that took a couple years.
It did.
It did.
Um,
like,
what is the cost?
Yeah.
Or what is the value of moving up whatever it was,
four spots?
Mm-hmm.
Um,
yes,
you're going from eighth to fourth.
And that's more significant than moving up from like 50th to 46th.
But,
that value.
So like you're essentially giving me like what?
A couple seconds?
No.
Like yeah,
I know we get the fourth overall pick,
but no.
Right.
No.
So if that was the,
if that was the hitch,
I wouldn't have taken that.
I understand Chevy's thinking.
So,
okay.
Again,
we don't know anything yet.
So let's do a quick prediction here
because I don't want to spend too much time on it
because we will get the details later on in the show.
But what is a win for Winnipeg?
Beyond moving on from the saga.
Like I know there are some people who are like,
why didn't Chevy just do a deal and then be done with it
and the team's doing well?
Actually, the team's lost four straight right now.
And we, you know, teams hit skids.
It happens.
But beyond the fact that it may or may not have been a distraction in the dressing room,
when we look at the actual lineup itself,
Stuart Skinner, Clay Stevenson, do they need a goalie?
I don't think so.
CJ keeps saying they love Clay Stevenson.
Yeah, and he's been playing pretty well, right?
Yeah.
So what do you do?
What are you hoping to get back on the roster?
Is it more depth at forward, like top end depth, like another centerman.
So Vigio, Bjork doesn't have to play second line center.
Control.
Control is the most important thing the Winnipeg Jets can get.
What did they get out of that Pierluque du Bois trade with L.A.?
that we all agreed that they won.
Control.
I have followed Valardi, who also stayed.
Yes.
They got.
I think four players in that deal and I think three of them are still there.
They got control.
That's what's most important.
You know, what do they need?
A defenseman, a forward.
I mean, I'm sure every team could use a little bit of everything.
Control.
That's what the Winnipeg Jets need.
What do you guys think about throwing Dawson Mercer's name out there because that's been
thrown out there?
I mean, Mercer, but again, that conversation we had a show or two ago where if you're
throwing out a name.
It's probably not a name I want.
Yeah, that's also somebody who goes against what you're just saying, who's not under control
because he's an RFA at the end of his deal, but his deal expires this season.
So now you get into contentious RFA negotiations with Dawson Mercer.
That's true, but RFA is control.
It's soft control.
For one more season.
Yeah, it's 24.
24, and he's going to be.
And then he's one RFA away from a U.S.
Right.
So that UFA year, it's sticky.
Like I would want, I think you should back up your own point.
Like I want somebody with control.
Yeah.
Like more past this past year.
You got Stefan Nason sitting in the minors.
Like I'm trying to.
I want to know the third team because I think that would make that would helpful.
That would be like, okay, we pick guys from that team coming in here.
Can I be honest?
I would not be shocked if it was somebody like Florida.
I really wouldn't.
I do think they're, they feel like a team that's like, we're going to do something eventually.
Maybe it's too early for them.
But they, I mean, Matthew could chuck said after the game last night.
They haven't been playing well.
Ironically, like two candidates.
No.
I was going to say two candidates for Hellebuck are actually like kind of interesting fits.
Buffalo and Carolina.
Carolina, like they just have an abundance of cap space and they're crafty and they would have been on the phone.
And okay, well, we can't get this deal done.
How about this?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Is Niketian somewhere in this?
Like is he going somewhere?
That would be so sick.
Now we're cooking with gas.
Somebody makes a deal with him to actually play hockey games and then that's
involved in this deal.
I don't know.
$20 billion actually is what he signs for.
We'll see.
So Adam, what do we do here?
Well, we move on to just, we move on to say this is the opening, Connor Hellebuck Salvo.
Yeah.
And this is how I planned it.
And we are coming back to it.
I don't think anybody in Buffalo agrees with my take about.
Buffalo's goaltending.
I think they're all mad that they didn't get Connor Halebuck because Buffalo is
perpetually mad at their hockey team.
Earned.
Earned.
I don't blame them.
And also,
they're right.
At a certain point,
you got to spend some damn asses.
I think I'm the only person who's like,
Buffalo's just hang on their goalies.
But everybody in Buffalo is like, no,
you know what I think about your patience?
Go fuck yourself.
Yeah.
I think that's the reaction from the place with great wings.
From the place with great wing,
as we discovered.
Now, I want to do a quick shout out before we get into,
we're going to get into the Brady Kachuk Ottawa Senators thing next.
But before we get into that, let's talk a little Easter Seals because on the stream
last night, Steve called me and we put them on live.
And Steve, where were we?
We were how much under $50,000 last night?
I sent a tweet yesterday afternoon.
We were at like 47 and a half.
And I think during your stream, we were, I think when your stream began, we were under 49.
And then when I called you, we were within $200.
Wow.
And now we, we blew past it today.
We're closer to $51,000 than we are to $50.
That's awesome.
And that's the thing.
That's the thing with fundraising.
You hit your goal.
And so what do you do?
You make a new goal.
So we're trying to keep it going.
someone asked me the deadline and I haven't mentioned this and I probably ought to.
It's the night of November 5th.
That is the big draft party for the tournament and then the next day is the actual...
Hey, let's get back to last night for a second.
Tournament.
We can get to that.
Oh, okay.
So last night, Steve calls.
How much money under 50,000 are we?
Like, 1500.
No, we were $200.
Oh, 200.
Under 50,000.
Last night when you called me.
Yes, when I called, yes, it was 200.
Just trying to...
I'm great at this.
I know the rest of it,
and I want you to tell the rest of that story.
But what's so special about this story is that I put Steve on my microphone,
and I said, Steve, say what you got to say.
And then he said, you know, we're $200 away from $50,000,
which is incredible, amazing.
Yes.
And then he gave the people, which were asking,
because Zach McEwen kept going to the net last night,
he gave them a go to the net.
You gave them the go to the net,
which they love a go to the net, right?
Would you like one, right?
Yeah, I would love a go to the net.
Go to the net.
And in one fell swoop,
hardcore listener Francoisle LaBelle dropped $200 into Justin Fisher's team.
And that put us over the $50,000 mark.
And that is why I wanted to give Francois a bit of a shout out there because he deserved it.
He's also had a very, very tough week in his home life.
And so, Francois, we just want to wish you the very, very best.
And of course, I want to thank you for putting us over the $50,000 threshold.
Merci Bocou, Franco.
Yeah, so we just wanted to say that.
That's what I was trying to lead you towards.
We are at $50,751.27.
That's amazing.
Keep her going.
Incredible.
And links are in the description.
You can enter now.
And of course, you can enter the thing now.

Yeah, I'm wearing the hatcher in Jet Black.
Ooh.
Yes.
I love these sunglasses.
The hatcher.
What do you love about them, Jesse?
They look good.
I think that's the whole point of sunglasses.
Hey, find a pair that really looks good on your face.
and they have like really good lenses and stuff.
That's right.
UVA.
Save your eyes from the sun.
Scratch resistant blocks 100% of UVA and UVB rays,
which the thing is with,
if you go with cheaper sunglasses,
what it does is it makes your eye bigger
because obviously you're trying to catch more light,
but then it lets all the UVA and UVB in,
which is bad for your eyes.
You're just blinded in purple.
That's right.
Yeah.
No sunglasses are actually something you should invest in
because you need a high quality pair

Hockey season is back, which means your schedule
just got a whole lot busier.
Ours definitely did.
Yes, it did.
I mean, Jesse's at the games all the time.
Steve's up late doing L-F-Rs.
I'm doing streams and Steve's doing streams.
It's just crazy.
It's fun though.
It's amazing.
We're very, very lucky, but here's the thing.

I know that Philly and Buffalo are great cities, great hockey markets, that sort of thing.
But the fact that TNT chose the Buffalo Philadelphia game as a national game over the Kachuk's return,
well, Brady Kachuk, but also let's say Matthew, because he was involved here too, is a complete failure.
And I had a debate with somebody yesterday about this. So they're like, listen,
Philly and Buffalo are guaranteed lock incredible ratings markets. And my point.
it was, yeah, but sometimes there's a story that transcends the local market.
And this is a national game.
Well, and sometimes that story is, like, when was Brady Kachuk traded?
In June?
June? July?
Yeah.
Guys.
No, there's no excuse for this.
And Cole Knoble, congrats to him getting the first couple of goals.
Philadelphia gets their third straight win.
Mike Knoebel's kid.
I know.
It's crazy, right?
What is happening?
But I just have to say, like, what are we doing here?
So I just feel like nobody's, are we sleep at the wheel, really?
Like you want Paul Bissonette talking about, you want Paul Bissonett talking about Cole Canoble and Philly cheese sticks?
Or do you want them talking about the Cichucks and the chants and the chants and the games and the stools before the game and everything?
Really?
The Cachucks are stars.
They're stars.
They're superstars.
They transcend the sport.
They're growing the sport gold medal.
And they're not the natural.
They don't treat them that way, do they?
No.
And that's not the Cichuk's fault.
No, it's not.
No, no, no, no, no.
That's it.
I'm saying they're talking out of both sides of their mouth.
Yeah.
Like, guys, this is, I know it's Ottawa.
I know it is.
This is a, you know, it's also Florida, not a, not a highly rated market in terms of television.
That's true.
But so what?
This is, this is marquee viewing.
And I, I suppose, I mean, I guess we'll never know how the game would have been rated down there.
And it's, it has a chance to be a moment, though.
It is a safe, boring decision.
And the thing is the NHL has really traded on,
I think since Four Nations, great moments.
Yes.
You know, the Four Nations moment,
the Stanley Cups with Matthew Cichuk and the Florida Panthers.
Remember, they went to three straight cup finals.
So, you know, they still are a factor of a team,
despite how, you know, ratings want to look at it.
And then you've got the Brady Cachuk thing.
You got the podcast leading into it.
We got all this stuff happening.
and you have a moment and you missed the moment.
And I really think the NHL should have stepped in and been like, guys,
are you out of your mind?
I always go back to when I worked at CBC
and it was Crosby's return game after injury.
I think it was 2012.
And they took this game that they weren't broadcasting.
And because of the grandeur around the moment,
that was a nationally broadcast game in Canada.
It's Pittsburgh.
and the islanders.
It didn't matter the country.
It didn't matter the markets.
It's let's serve hockey fans.
It's the moment.
It's the moment.
And to me, that didn't serve hockey fans at all.
Now, before the game,
now we've done a lot of before the game stuff.
We did the stoolsless stuff.
It's like, hey, is he angry or is he just German?
And apparently the answer is yes.
The question, though, of the pre-game comes from our very own Julian McKenzie.
And this is a great question.
And Brady Kachuk struggles to answer this one.
And I think what's fascinating about it is how he tries to kind of move away from actually answering it.
Have a listen.
Terry, Brad, just one more from me.
There are a lot of fans, obviously, in Ottawa who wanted to stay by you and defended you through everything.
And a lot of people felt that essentially they were, for lack of a better term,
and maybe a bit deceived with the way that you spoke about previous trade requires.
and ultimately decided to leave.
Any message to the sense fans with how things were handled
and how uncomfortable it might have been in the end?
Yeah, I mean, obviously you can't really control the past at this point.
Just have to, you know, for me, just kind of accepted it
and moving on to the next chapter.
I mean, it's kind of tied into how I feel about this, you know,
this fan base in the city.
It's, you know, I love my time here.
I loved not just my time on the ice.
I loved everything about the community.
I loved, you know, as the years gone on,
just doing different stuff with, you know,
the Boys and Girls Club doing stuff with Chio
and just really feeling kind of more of the impact
was more important for me off the ice
than it was on the ice.
So, and then there's a lot of relationships
through, you know, the foundation
that was able to make at, you know,
the tournaments, the golf tournaments
and different fundraisers and charities and stuff like that.
So for me, it's knowing that,
know, there's relationships there that I'll have for the rest of my life.
And, yeah, I mean, it was, I've had amazing memories that,
and I'll be telling, you know, my kids and grandkids, you know, many years down the road.
You know, I owe Adam Wilde an apology.
You do?
Yeah.
For what?
Because he answered a question that he wasn't asked, and I found that frustrating.
Well, Jesse was the one that, Jesse was the one that pointed it out.
He pointed it out, man.
I think you asked a question.
And I was like, well, I'm going to free ball this and I'm going to answer whatever I want.
Great question from Julian and great word salad that he had in the can.
Like, it's just not an authentic answer.
It's an inauthentic answer from, I think, an inauthentic person.
And the authenticity from the Kachucks came on the podcast, came in the media comments.
Listen, the night felt like this to me.
And I love that there's other people out there going like,
I can't believe how Ottawa would have treated him.
The reality is that Brady had his say.
Keith had his say.
Matthew had his say.
Keith was talking from everything.
How many times were going to hear that rumor about Keith Kachuk walking around at the Olympics going?
We've got to get Brady out of Ottawa, which most people will tell you likely happened.
Your dad's belligerent and brazen and has no filter.
And yeah, obviously it got out.
And then you do the podcast.
And then you deny that the podcast was about anything on your team, even though Keith Kachuk audibly says Christ, your team and points at Brady.
Yes.
So Brady, Keith, Matthew have their say.
All the American Olympians have their say playing in Canada sucks.
It's horrible.
We hate it here.
Even though a lot of them are staying and perfectly happy.
The Sends had their say.
They made the trade.
Yes.
They talked about bringing in Eklund, who unfortunately got injured.
They've had their seat.
They accommodated them.
Everybody has had your say.
And they went to the pain in the ass of getting Eklin, by the way.
Yeah.
Because it's not like they got Eklund from Florida.
Florida gave them all the stuff they had left because it's not like they have any prospects or roster players that they're willing to give up.
So Steve Stales gets all those things.
And then he has to go to the pain in the ass of going out and get an Eklon.
The one group that had not had their say, Steve Dangle, Jesse Blake, were the Ottawa Senators fans.
And they finally got to let it out.
I'm blown away.
It was a masterclass, a masterclass in how to, if somebody treats you with disrespect,
you should treat them with the same disrespect.
He treated the franchise in the city with disrespect.
You can't tell me otherwise.
Look what happened.
It was amazing.
No, I'm not entertaining anything otherwise.
But like the Leafs and Sends have played each other in the playoffs five times.
Yeah.
I've never heard that market that loud.
that was crazy and people still hold Tavares' return to Long Island as the standard.
It was pretty nasty.
I mean, this is right up there.
Absolutely.
It's right up there.
I don't know if it rivals it because that was.
Well, they were burning his jersey and running it over in the parking lot.
I didn't see a lot of that from Senators fans.
They were just, I thought.
A bit difficult to overcome smoke and fire.
Yeah.
The Islanders fans were a lot more physical about it.
They wanted a physical manifestation throwing snakes, burning jerseys, driving.
It was a Metallica con.
Yeah.
It didn't end.
Whereas with the senators fans, it was like, you know, this is a government town full of smart people.
And we're going to outsmart you.
We're going to make fun of.
And a one, and a two.
And I saw a great tweet guys.
And I was like, I actually wondered this too.
They're like, are they just coming up with this off the dome?
Or did they plan this?
Because some of the chants were amazing.
I have no idea.
I wondered the same thing.
I really did.
I mean, you eat crayons.
feels that feels spur of the moment.
F your podcast.
F your podcast.
Dude, love that.
I don't know if you guys saw the NBC
Sharks broadcast ran through
all 10 chance.
Yeah, before the broadcast yesterday,
which is amazing.
And for me,
and I want to start here,
there are three guys
who established on the ice
that you should be proud
to play for the Ottawa Senators.
You're going to remember,
this is a team that's been kicked by stars.
Yashin,
Heatley, now Kachuk.
There's been other players, but those are the three ones that stand out to me.
Yash and going, I'm just simply not going to play.
And the senators in the NHL going, yes, you are.
Danny Heatley being beloved by the city and then going, get me the hell out of here because of whatever he wanted to get out for.
And then, you know, Brady leaving because, and I have to agree with the owner, Michael Anlower, his brother and his dad got in his kitchen.
Three guys really established.
And one guy I thought, you could have read the room better.
Yeah, right.
Stutzler, cousins, and Grig.
were awesome for different reasons.
Cousins does what he does.
Greg does what he does.
Stootsler does what he does.
They all carried out their,
their established resumes to a T.
I need everyone to understand
how hated the Florida Panthers are.
This show of three Toronto Maple Leafs fans
is giving praise to Nick Cousins and...
Ridley, Greg.
I never thought my life.
But I was like, hell yeah, get in there, Nick.
Man.
And you know, what was so funny is there was, I think it was a point.
I think it was Ridley Grigg.
He got, he hit Kachuk, I think in the third period or second period or something like that.
And Kachuk does what all the Florida Panthers guys do.
And they're good at this.
He goes up, skates next to him, starts talking to him like, I'm big tough guy.
And then the Florida Panthers surround him and then they start throwing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that's what they do.
By a guy my age again.
Shut up.
But what I thought was kind of, and people were tough on Sid about this, but I actually
have to say I'm with him on this.
When Drake Batherson before the game was like, yeah, I went for dinner last night and
friendship becomes before all this.
He lost a lot of people there.
I'm not saying, I'm not saying Drake Batherson shouldn't go for lunch and dinner with
them.
People were saying that.
I'm like, no, no, no, he can do what he wants.
Just read the room.
I am saying wear a hat.
I'm saying wear a hat and sunglasses.
That's what I'm saying.
Yeah.
Or what's the Mr. Potato Head sunglasses where you get the nose and the mustache or
whatever, you know?
Like you talked about reading the room.
Drake, Drake, no one wants to hear that shit.
Yeah.
No one wants to hear that shit.
And the guys who were staunchly anti-Bradie were the guys that showed up.
And I, let's talk about this because obviously Brady is the one that scores in the return.
Hilarious.
And it has to go that way.
Of course.
That makes it even better.
Yes.
And I have to ask you guys at that moment when Brady scores, do you think, uh-oh,
Ottawa in trouble for a second?
Uh, I, does it flash in your mind?
I thought this is the best possible outcome for first goal of the game.
Sure.
Easily.
Him giving it to the crowd was incredible.
And what I thought before that game started, just hearing the crowd and the energy around it,
I didn't think this was going to be a war.
I was like, one of these teams is getting their ass kicked tonight.
When Brady scored, I thought that team was going to be Ottawa.
Ottawa, who had, I think, the first five or six shots of that game, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, when he scored, that was their first shot on goal.
I believe the shots were six nothing or five nothing at the time of his goal.
Yeah, but no one cares about that.
Like, you're up, you're up one-nothing.
And, you know, maybe they feed off that momentum and then they eat you alive.
Like, the most important goal of that game was Stootzelis.
Yeah.
Honestly, to tie it fairly soon after.
and getting the building back into it, a positive vibe,
a us against them vibe.
Because, let's be honest.
Like, before that game starts,
they pan the Florida bench.
And I was like, okay, if this turns into a physical war,
it's not a knock against Ottawa.
Who's standing up against the Florida Panthers, really?
Really.
That is an entire rock.
of guys who will go.
Yeah.
An entire roster.
Yep.
It'd be easier.
It'd be easier to talk about the guys who won't fight because the list is maybe three.
Or who don't need to, I guess.
Or don't need to.
Yeah, there's a few guys on that roster who just don't need to.
And you could maybe count Brady and Matthew among them.
They will fight, but it's way better for Florida if they're just on the ice.
So Ottawa won that game the way they had to win that game, which was on the score sheet.
Because if it came to a battle of Fisticofts, which they did it.
They did okay.
They did okay.
But you're going to get beat up.
Right?
Mm-hmm.
If you're the team getting their ass kicked on the score sheet, so okay, we at least need to stand up for ourselves.
That night's going to be, you're going to be real demoralized by the end of that game if you're Ottawa.
Jesse, what do you have on your screen there?
I'm curious.
It's the Brady.
Oh, it is the Brady thing.
Okay.
I thought you had to.
No.
I want to ask, I want to ask this.
So Brady scores in the.
return and everybody talks about the goal and the celebration. Sure. Does it kind of, is it kind of
funny that he finishes the game minus two? Oh my God. Yeah, I'm surprised he only finished minus two.
They didn't play great. They really didn't like before the game, Paul Maurice sat there and he had his
fart machine next to him with the gas mask attached to it. Oh my God. And he's like, you know,
we're going to be there for him in his count Dracula voice. I don't think that they were. And I know, and I
last night they got shut out and it was the second half of back to back.
I actually give them a little bit more leeway on that.
They're starting a rookie goal to end or whatever.
But what I saw was actually a team that was either ill-prepared for the moment of that game on the Florida Panthers side
or a team that's just maybe not that good anymore.
I can, listen, I can only speak from games I've seen, right?
Early Matthew Zero Leaves, because that's what they were.
John Tavares has returned to Long Island.
Yep. I think I know where you're going here.
First of all, they play their backup goalie.
Panthers were forced to.
Yeah. So it's a bit different.
They play their backup goalie, and they get their ass kicked.
They did.
One player showed up for that game.
I believe it was Zach Hyman, basically.
He kept it as close as he could for as long as he could.
And then the Islanders absolutely ran them over.
What happened?
after that game.
And I'm not saying it's because of that game.
I'm just saying sometimes it helps you diagnose a team.
The Leafs went on to become a team with a reputation for making it to the playoffs and then utterly wilting.
The New York Islanders were the second best team of those two years going to the East Final against Tampa twice and losing to the eventual Stanley Cup champions in the East Final.
People forget those teams.
It was arguably the second best team for a two-year stretch.
in the entire league, right?
And they won by wearing you the hell out.
We all thought the Leafs were going to do the leafy thing in Columbus
and get their asses kicked in Kirill Marchenko's return game.
And instead, oh, boy, did we learn a lot about the Columbus Blue Jackets?
You don't want to lose that game and you don't want to lose that game like that.
So this is a little different because it's Brady's return to Ottawa.
There's more pressure on Ottawa to win that game than Florida.
But Florida games turn into carnivals so often.
And obviously they're missing Marchand and they're missing Barkov.
And you're not seeing the whole product here.
But one thing that kind of defined Brady's time in Ottawa is you know how we talk about today's game and no game has ever really done?
Like two goal leads die, three goal leads die.
when Brady decided his night was over,
it was over.
It was all the antics and he would get kicked out
and there's no hockey game being played tonight.
I'm done.
It's over.
A little bit like Draymond when Steph Curry's hurt.
I don't feel like playing tonight.
I'm just going to get kicked out.
That would be Brady could chuck so many nights.
And you like a response from guys.
But in 2026, like actually,
if we're down three in the third
and their goalies hurt, by the way,
and they got the other guy coming in cold,
we can win this game.
Absolutely.
And that's what I thought.
When Linus went down,
I'm like,
oh, this game might have just turned.
We can win this game.
And they decided there's no more hockey game.
We're just going to fuck around.
I thought it was perfect that Brady started the game scoring that goal
because it just leaned so hard into the WWE
nature of it all.
Yeah.
You want the heel to start off
punching down the baby face
and then all of a sudden
they're building it back up
and he turns to the crowd
and then you beat down on the heel.
That's such good wrestling psychology, Jesse.
Mm-hmm.
Because, okay, okay,
let's talk about this wrestle brain right now.
Sends get the first five shots of that game.
Babyface usually,
like a couple grapple holds at the beginning of the match,
establishes I am stronger.
the heel does something healy and everyone realizes,
uh-oh,
this isn't going to be an easy out for the face.
This was perfect wrestling psychology when it was one-n-nothing.
It's how every kind of baseline of every match has ever gone.
Where you start off with the baby face and then the heel gets all the momentum
and then eventually they have the outcome where if it is a baby face win,
like they come through.
And you learn so much about the senators through that game.
and not just the fans like the fans are just awesome you learn so much about them and all the chance but the team on the ice being so resilient through that moment because it'd be leaf's brain to think hey they're down one nothing and the guy who's having his comeback night scores this is going to be a five nothing loss for the sends but nothing kept them down in that moment i thought jake sand was unbelievable i thought he was one of the best players on the ice for the sends and just leading their play from the back end and then when lina salmark goes down and samerson comes in that game
Samerson faces one shot.
Right.
Because they gave up.
They shut down that game for the last 17th.
That entire third period was a pathetic effort from the Panthers.
And yeah, Brady Kachuk did the classic Brady Kachuk thing.
And it's so fitting that his game ends walking back to the dressing room with like three minutes to go in the game because he had a little tussle and shit his pants on the ice that they were losing so bad and got himself kicked out of the game.
Game's over.
Game's over.
I don't want to play.
Yeah.
And, you know, it's interesting, like, we all still think Florida's an elite team.
It's part of the reason we don't like them.
But it's interesting knowing the approach that the Edmonton Oilers are taking to this season,
where last year they felt like they didn't take the regular season seriously enough.
And now they're not just beating everyone.
They're running them over.
They are steamrolling.
Well, they're reminding the league, hey, we're the Edmonton Oilers?
Yes.
You guys know that, right?
Right.
And the Panthers don't always take that approach to the regular season.
Like, they're a resilient team that can come back.
I wouldn't want to play them in the playoffs.
No, and like, where they finish.
In a three goal lead in the third period, you feel uncomfortable?
No, no.
Especially as a lead fan.
No, I feel comfortable at the final horn.
That's it.
That's it.
Until the next game.
Until the next game.
Yeah, I'm happy they won for about five minutes.
And then I remember there's another game and I get angry again because I hate playing against them.
you got to win games and they decided this game was over.
I think it's, it's, you know, it's, I have to give Brady some credit.
I thought he handled it well in during the game.
Pre-game, I think his answers were bullshit.
I think we know that.
But, you know, when they did the, the tribute, despite the booze, he still tipped.
Lifting his stick was objectively very funny.
Very funny, well done.
In the game.
It was very well done by him.
He did.
He handled it really, really well.
I do think, though, that through that, you know, through that camp, we're seeing today
some media reports going what was unfair and I can't believe it was classless or whatever.
Acting.
And this is where I get annoyed with that camp is that they love to pretend to be the villain.
And then when somebody pushes back, they're the victim.
And I just, it's like enough, guys, which one do you want to be the villain?
The villain doesn't complain.
the villain takes their lumps and Brady took his lumps and scored a gold and played great,
but he took his lumps.
I'll give him that.
I'll give him that.
And then through a his he fit at the end and got himself kicked out.
Yes.
Yeah, I'm not interested in sense fans.
Yeah, the big bullying sense fans.
Stop.
It's crazy.
It's so, again, it comes down to this.
Like what I told you if the 24, 25 playoffs when it's like, oh, it's too hard in Toronto.
The media lost them the series.
you're just soft.
Just admit you're soft.
I'm going to send you a box of blue pills
so you can get hard again.
God, damn.
It's embarrassing.
When Lee fans were like,
oh, Islanders fans,
what did the entire rest of the league
tell this fan base?
Shut the fuck up.
Yeah.
So let's apply that to everyone else,
actually.
You shut the fuck up.
I think to the senator's brand changed,
guys.
I think the senator's brand changed.
I think...
That's a good way of putting it.
Jesse, you're absolutely right
to bring Sanders in.
in this I should have, but I just loved
Stootsla cousins and Greg so much for
different reasons in the game. They were amazing.
But what I thought was the
senators established not
just with their fans, which was one
thing that's always been a criticism, that
arena is 30 minutes outside of anywhere where
it should be. It's too big.
Dude, it stinks to get to. And it's, yeah,
it's a pain he has to get to get to. And games are getting so expensive
it's hard to get people in the arenas. Let's
be honest. And there have been times
where the Ottawa senators have been in the third round and not
sold it out, right? It's just a bizarre
arena in a bizarre place.
Labretton Flats, we're still not sure exist.
The senators on the ice, the senator fans in the stands, established a new precedent.
They established a brand new precedent of, you're not going to kick us around anymore.
There's going to be pride playing here.
And, you know, I think that's still needed to be done after the Eugene Melnick years.
Losing Allmark obviously hurts.
that's the kind of win you can ride for the rest of the season.
I know they just lost.
I know they just lost.
Yeah, and it proves to themselves that like they can do it.
You know, we can rise to the occasion.
Even when we're down, we're not out and we can win these games.
And I think every fan base in the league should have a new found respect for the senators.
Like this is a before and after moment for that fan base.
You should gain respect for them.
They showed up and they did the thing that everybody was hoping that they would do.
and it was make that thing a toxic, awesome environment.
And they did it like two as it wasn't quite the islanders,
but they did it as much as you could be
without having to grow up in New York.
I don't know how you top the islanders
without committing a crime.
Exactly.
Yeah.
No, I'm serious.
Oh, there were crimes committed that night.
Like a misdemeanor.
A mist meter where they just,
I don't know if you're allowed to set shit on fire in the park and line.
But 31 fan bases should have respect for Seds fans after that.
Absolutely.
Awesome.
Yes.
Although I won't blame Panthers fans if they're a little salty about it.
I don't blame them.
They don't have to respect it.
Hey, apply Russell Brain to it.
The heel gets beat, takes their licks, and now they head backstage where they plot how to be an even bigger bastard.
Can I also say it's, it's, you know, we've, we rag on the NHL a little bit.
And North America generally for being a little too lax at the stadiums.
I mean, Toronto is a big, has a problem with it from time to time where the arena is just dead.
But you go to Europe and, and you go to South America.
you go to these other places, Asia's like this too.
They scream and yell.
And like in Turkey, they whistle so loud.
Players have to sub off.
And so when a little bit of like hatred, a little bit of vitriol gets into the fans,
people here don't know how to react.
And I thought, I want to see more of that in the NHL.
I want to see more rivalry like that in the NHL.
You can't make it up.
You can't force it.
But when it happens, we got to celebrate it a little bit here.
None of those chirps are like devastating where Brady Kachuk could never recover.
It was all really funny, creative.
Yeah, there's a little hate involved.
And everybody that watched that game, except if you've probably a Panthers fan or your last name's Kachuk, loved it.
There's nothing bad about that game.
Nothing bad happened.
I could tell by his reaction to it.
George Peros hated it, though.
Oh, because Aaron Eckblad didn't get suspended for that elbow, that flying elbow behind the head.
Did you see that?
Or Matthew Kachach.
That is the signature move of the Florida Panthers
is skating full speed into a forearm shuffle.
Bennett likes to lead with his fist.
Eckblad likes to lead with his elbow.
This is why I don't like getting close to players, man.
I've met him a bunch of times.
He's such a lovely fella,
but he's also like a multi-time suspended drug cheat
who will kill you.
Of course. Listen, when you get on the ice, there's a switch.
Yeah, I think that's what happens.
Totally.
Anything else on the Senators' Panthers game?
other than the Lars Eller standing ovation, which we can't, we would be wrong, remiss.
Oh my God, that was so funny.
Yeah.
That was so funny.
Oh, thank you for bringing that up.
Really, really funny.
Sends fans.
And like, just showing like, yes, it is actually that serious and yes, it is personal.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Yes.
We need to celebrate.
We need more of this.
More of this.
The NHL has a talking out of both sides.
of its mouth problem and a culture problem.
Dude, a Toronto tempo game.
I went to a Toronto tempo game.
Defening.
It was a regular season game for a team
that is not very good.
And they're not even a, yeah, they're not a good team.
It was deafening in that building.
And you go to the Leafs and you can get homework done.
Right?
Not all the time.
When they perform well and they score five goals,
I'm sure it was very loud in the building last night.
but hockey could use a little bit of noise.
And I think there's a lot of people today talking out of both sides of their mouth.
It's not that they don't like hatred in hockey or toxicity in hockey.
They didn't like that the Kachucks lost.
That's all it is.
That's fine.
They can't win every time.
They won a lot.
There's a lot of really subtle anti-Canada stuff out there.
Is it subtle?
I don't feel like it's subtle.
Jesse,
what do you got up on your screen there?
What do you have?
Moneypuck.com.
And what's on it?
New Jersey devil is the corrected goals.
Oh, okay, because that's the...
What are you asking about it?
Because I thought you had a...
I thought you had something.
All right.
All right.
I thought he had something.
By the way...
Close the Brady Conchuk tab
and then MoneyPuck was the next thing that was open.
Cooper Black,
six foot nine,
tallest goalie ever to play in the NHL last night.
He is tall.
Did he grow?
I thought he was 6-8.
Well, probably did.
That's crazy.
I warned you.
I told you it wouldn't be warm forever.
It's true.
And it's a good thing you got Chubbies looking after you, okay?
Because Chubbies, you know Chubbies for their swim shorts, and we've talked about their swim shorts.
We had the swim shorts on.
That's great.
They do their casual.
They do their athletic.
They do their swimwear.
But they do have a fall drop and new NFL branded polos.
They've got long-sleeve shirts.
They got things to get you through the cold weather.
And the great thing.
about it is just like the chubby shorts,
they're stretchy and they're comfortable
and they look good too. Steve, what's your favorite NFL
team? What are you getting on your polo?
Ravens. Oh,
Ravens. Derek Henry.
How dare you? We've got to get Steve
the chubby's Ravens polo.
As a Steelers fan, how dare you?
Chubby's performance polo
with Derek Henry fart.
Good for brunches, backyard parties or
accidentally crashing a wedding, whatever you get up
to, or I don't know, maybe just winning your
football pool every year, but Derek Henry.
whether you're layering up for tailgates,
lounging through lazy Sundays or leaning into full fall comfort.
Chubbies got you covered for a limited time.
Given our listeners $25.
So use me, $20 off your order with the code,
Steve Dangle spelled.
S-E-V-E-D-A-N-G-L-E.
At chubbyshorts.com.
That's code Steve Dangle at chubbieshorts.
Support the show.
Show your thigh some respect with chubbies.
Hockey season is back,
which means your schedule just got a whole lot busier.
Ours definitely did.
Yes, it did.
I mean, Jesse's at the games all the time.
Steve's up late to an L-L-L.
as I'm doing streams and Steve's doing streams. It's just crazy. It's fun though. It's amazing.

We got you.
Cooperators can help get your investments in the game.
Cooperators.
Get investments, insurance, and advice.
from someone who gets you.
Terms and conditions apply.
Connor Hullabuck, by the way,
we're starting to get things roll in.
And I'm just pulling up Kevin Weeks' tweet,
so I have it right,
because this is a big return.
And for anybody that might have said...
Is it full?
No, it's not full, but it's partial, and it's big.
Anybody that might have said
the Jets should have just moved off him and moved on,
this is why you wait.
And I've been, and we've been,
admittedly, extraordinarily,
critical of Kevin Shevall Day off the last couple of years,
especially his draft record.
It's been bad. Sorry.
No, no, no, no, I know.
He doesn't do much, but he's like a cicada.
He waits 17 years to make a trade, and then it's big and loud.
But a lot of the trades he had been making weren't exactly working out lately.
Fair.
This one, I think, looks good.
Okay.
So, the star of the deal, not actually, going back to Winnipeg.
and there will be a third team.
Nico Dawes.
Of course.
Yeah.
Dawson Mercer.
Looks like I'm a Jets fan.
Yeah, it looks like you are, Jesse.
I got to follow Nico Das.
Nico Dawes, Dawson Mercer.
So we mentioned him.
Oh, so they do do them on Dawson Mercer.
I don't think any Devils fan is going to be upset.
But they're losing Dawson.
Two guys with Dawes in their name.
Alexander Command, who was the 12th overall selection,
left-handed shooting center out of Sweden.
So far in the men's league this year, he's played six games, no points.
But in the junior league in Sweden, he's got 12 and 6.
So he's just, you know, he's also a child playing against grown men.
It takes a while.
But the 12th overall pick.
So you get the 12th overall pick.
Okay.
So you could say the Jets got the 8th and the 12th overall pick in the draft.
Which year?
This year.
Oh, from this.
Okay.
Yeah.
Alexander Command.
And there is another forward involved and also two future picks.
We don't know what they are, but that's what Weeks has.
And Winnipeg,
We'll need to clear salary in this.
People are doing the calculation.
So the third team, I'm assuming, is taking some salary.
I don't know who's getting moved off.
But Darren Drager has reported that teams are being, are now informing players that this has happened.
So this is going to be, it's momentarily that this is, momentarily this will come out.
Oh, LeBron just tweeted 49 seconds ago.
Hmm.
The extra forward is Nick Bukstad.
So Dawson Mercer, Nico Dawes, Alexander Command, Nick Bukstad, and two picks.
We still don't know what the picks are.
That's really going to color how I look at this trade.
Well, what do you need?
I don't hate it already,
but what do you need the picks to be for it to be good enough for Steve Dangle?
Something that gets me out of bed.
Like first, seconds?
I was like, oh, who could the other player be?
And you hit me with like one of the biggest suitcases in the NHL.
Like that?
Dude, he's played for a lot of teams.
It's probably Salary Stoss and Mercer that you're excited about.
It's Alexander Mann that you're excited about.
Yes, yes.
No, that is...
Mercer gives them a legitimate...
He's a pretty good center, is he not?
He's playing a wing for them right now.
Is he?
He's one of those, both.
You do get control here.
Like I said, like, I know Mercer's expiring, but he's an RFA.
Now he can't win it.
Command is, I mean, I don't know if he's signed to an ELC yet,
but once he is signed to an ELC, there's three years.
And then after that expires, he's still an RFA,
and you have lots of control.
I don't know what Dawes' situation.
I think the Mercer thing, you're kind of forcing your hand to sign him to a long-term contract.
Are you not?
Well, if you're trading for him for Connor Hullabuck, I assume they want him.
Yeah.
You know?
It's just Devils fans have been disappointed with what Dawson Mercer has been so far in his career.
That's definitely fair.
I wonder if maybe part of the deal is, listen, we have to have an extension here.
Yeah.
I think if to make this thing look really good for the Jets, it's,
one of the two first round picks that the devils have.
Yeah.
I thought, so I did like a Larkin thing the other day and I was like,
New Jersey's got two first round picks.
They could go on and like get Larkin and just throwing picks and maybe some other players,
a guy like Mercer or whatever.
But now that I know they're doing the Hela Buc deal,
like that one of those is just got to be Sunday Meda being like,
okay, who cares?
We don't need those two first right this year.
We're trying to win, give them to Winnipeg.
Adam's saying future picks.
Like if one of those picks is a first and then there's something else,
real good
real good
like that's why you have that pick
if you're a contender
you don't have that pick
to sit on it
and be like
oh man we're gonna take
this two first
and draft somebody
so in four years
somebody can help us
no you want to sell those
so you can get help now
I'm interested to see
what the
jets have to move
yeah because they have like
$13 million in salary cap space
I'm surprised that
they have to move anything
off their roster
I have the picks
here we go
a second in 2029
and a seventh in 2020
wow they didn't even have to
part with the first.
That's good for the devils.
I think it's good for both.
That's a great deal for the devil.
Yeah, but like the fact that you asked for control.
They just got a center who can't win face-offs.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
I'm talking about the fact that it's a second and a seventh.
You're not getting a first round pick and all that stuff.
It's a goaltender.
Well, that's why I would say it.
It was a mistraining camp in the first month.
There's no chance.
Right.
No chance.
I think this is better than whatever Buffalo offered, even with that fourth overall pick
because of the swap.
Buffalo wanted a swap.
Not done yet.
Mixed.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So CJ's just saying,
yeah, Bukstad is a part of it.
I wonder if the third team is getting Daws.
Maybe.
Or somebody else.
I don't know.
Maybe there's somebody that want to move off their roster.
I don't know who makes a lot on Winnipeg that.
I really like the deal for the Jets.
And I like the deal for the,
or sorry,
for the Jets for the Devils.
And I like the deal for the Jets,
considering that they don't really need Connor Hellehele
Buck, and they've proven that so far this season, that Skinner and Clay Stevenson have been
decent enough.
Oh, a bit of a skid.
Yeah, they've been decent enough where it's not really their goaltending's fault, I don't think,
is what I'm leaning on.
I think they've still been better than people probably thought.
Totally.
And now for a player that they don't want and they've shown that they can survive without,
they get all of these assets.
I actually don't mind it.
I think it's kind of neat, too, that they've got sort of a young core developing to replace
the older one, obviously Sheifley's 33,
Kyle Conner's 29,
Valardi's 27,
but you've got Perfetti at 24,
Mercer at 24,
you've got Vigo Bjork at 18,
you've got Brandon Yeager.
That Rucker McGordy,
Brandon Yeager trade is looking better
and better every day.
You know, Brad Lambert is playing,
finally.
You know, you've got command coming over eventually.
He's going to get traded in this deal and you're going to look like.
Yeah, probably is.
But there seems to be,
Winnipeg is like,
we're taking care of the next job.
generation with this.
Well, they have to.
And they are.
Yeah, no.
Getting a bunch of old guys in this deal does nothing for anything.
Can I ask the obvious question?
How box your briefs?
So now that we know that New Jersey and how many picks do they have, you mean, where is it?
New Jersey.
New Jersey.
Yeah, I'm asking about New Jersey.
They have two first round picks, one second, no thirds and fourths, one fifth.
Two first round picks this year, Jesse?
Yes.
Okay.
How quickly does Quinn Hughes become a New Jersey devil?
Two first round picks.
Bill Garon can take those first round picks.
Maybe he can take Evan Rodriguez too.
Get himself a center, get himself another defenseman.
I know Hayden's in the room and I know he wants to dive across it and choke me like Homer and Bart.
But I do feel like this is New Jersey signaling to Quinn Hughes.
The guy that you, your brother scored the game winning goal in the Olympics.
We got you the goalie who put on the thing at the Olympics.
need to sign here.
It definitely makes it more appealing.
And I think New Jersey now probably has some of or if not most of the assets to make it happen now.
Okay.
Both those picks are gone.
Well, yeah, for sure.
Maybe even the next two, you get 2028 and 2029 as well.
So two first round picks and Luke Hughes for Quinn.
I feel like that's fair.
Well, what about a Dougie Hamilton?
What about a Luke Evangelista?
that Gritsuk kid looks really good.
Yeah, he's gone.
No.
No?
Hayden, what do you want?
It's Quinn Hughes! What do you mean?
No.
I think Dougie Hamilton's closer to what you want.
Evan Rodriguez, Luke Evangelista.
I think both.
Dougie Hamilton.
I'm just, it's hard for me to see a trade there just because, like, replacing Hughes,
I mean, you're not going to, obviously.
And picks for Minnesota are nothing.
is if you look at Minnesota's picks, they have their pecks.
Like they don't, they're not like hurting for first rounders.
So if Garum's going to make a deal for first rounders to make this team better, he just has his own.
He'd have to do what Steyos did with Eklund.
Exactly.
Like here, okay, let's take this from these guys.
And like that was the William Ecklin and Brady Kachuk thing, like that's kind of a three-way trade.
Yeah.
I mean, if you link the two trades together, yeah.
I don't know.
I just don't see anything on New Jersey that.
would, I honestly see Garen just walking Quinn Hughes to July 1st and just betting on,
betting on, yeah, they're winning the cup and him resigning or him wanting to stay.
I think you're right, man.
I think it's way more likely that Quinn Hughes is a free agent on July 1st than he gets traded.
Wow.
You know what, though?
I think you might be right, man.
I actually don't, I wouldn't blame the wild at all.
You got to take a swing at some point in your life.
It's quite the swing, though.
It's a swing.
And it looked bad last year.
Remember how it looked when Fitzgerald was still running the devils?
It was like, oh, no, maybe Jack goes to Minnesota.
Sunny meta, like, I mean, just how tall do you want the statue, basically?
Like, if he's able to pull this off after, you're right.
Like, this time last year, was Tom Fitzgerald not still the GM?
Yeah, he was the GM until the end of the season, man.
Oh, and we were just getting into how bad the Tom Fitzgerald years were getting last year at this time.
It was the spring where it was like, oh, wow, this is bad.
slandering that man.
And it looks like for good reason.
So is there no third team involved?
There will be apparently, but it has not been announced.
Wow.
That's surprising.
Why do we know all these things, but not the third team?
I think the devil's really cooked here.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Yep.
I don't really think, I don't think they gave up anything that's going to hurt them.
That's what I'm saying.
Unless command is like, just ridiculous.
Maybe Hallibuck hurts them with his play.
Was that?
I said maybe Hellebuck hurts them with his play.
That is the main way they lose this trade is if Hallibuck sucks.
That should go without saying, yeah.
Totally.
But if he's Connor Hallibuck, if he's a goalie who can play like 55, 60 games a season for you and win 35, 40 of them.
We're running out of 65 games, but yes.
Well, this year.
Yeah, yeah. But for the remaining four.
Which is quite a while.
People forget about that.
And like, he doesn't even need to be heart winning Connor Hellebuck to be more than worth
his contract.
It'd be nice.
It'd be nice.
And that's what you're counting on.
I suppose if you're sunny meta and Devils fans.
But you got a number one reliable goaltender is what you're hoping.
That's it.
Like you said, I think you're very right.
It doesn't have to be Vezna.
Right.
But you know who your number one is now.
And like how much worse are the devils like, okay, let's pretend this trade never happened.
And we find out, oh, Dawson Mercer and Nick Buxtad are day to day.
Are we like, oh, man, they're definitely getting their ass kick.
Yeah, yeah.
That's what I'm saying about like the assets that they've had to give up here in this deal.
I think it's, that's replaceable.
We'll be fine in terms of our forward group.
So why not just take the guy who has a very high ceiling as a goaltender?
And then the Jets, like, hopefully Mercer
become something for them.
Like, there's some fore-depth that they desperately need.
Yeah.
You know, with how thin they do look up front in the middle six especially.
So I don't think it's bad asses that they've retained.
I would have liked a first, but I guess it's a goaltender and I need to rejig my
expectation.
I guess you technically do get a first, right?
Like, we were talking about them getting the fourth overall pick at the draft,
but they would have had to give up the eighth.
So.
They got the 12th.
Yeah.
What am I talking about?
Yeah, well, it's because he's got a name, right?
Right.
It doesn't feel the same.
But that's so true because it's a first round pick that's already like starting his development.
So it's even better.
Yeah.
And like waiting for a 2027 first where that pushes that timeline to that draft pick a little further.
I agree there.
Oh, great point.
I agree.
I think both teams made out fairly well here.
So it sounds like a good trade.
Yeah.
I like it a bit more for the Devils than I do for the Jets.
But that doesn't mean I think the Jets a lot.
I think it's an A on the devil side and a A minus to B plus on the jet side.
I like that.
I want you to be my teacher.
This guy gives out good marks.
Hayden.
Strammel.
I just want to say before we move on, that is Nick Bussed's now on his ninth team.
Wow.
That is a suitcase.
New set's ninth team.
Yeah.
Ninth team.
See?
I was on to see?
I was on to see.
out more teams, Bukstad or Roslovak?
It's got to be Bukstad.
It's funny because every game
Roslilovic plays is like
revenge game for Roslilvich.
Last night, the New York game
was revenge game for Roslavik.
The Blue Jackets game is revenge game for
Roslavik. It's revenge week for
Roslavik, let's be honest.
Edmonton, revenge game for Roslavik.
I want someone to
beat Mike Sillinger's record, but I don't think
any player wants to beat Mike Sillinger's record.
What is the record?
I think he played for 12 teams.
That's a lot of teams.
It's insane.
Imagine his wall in the basement.
Yes, yes, he is.
He's not far off.
He's really not.
He's really not.
Do we find out what Roscovick is?
What about?
What number he's at?
Oh, I can find out right now, yeah.
Jack, Rossovick.
He is at least five, isn't it?
Hurricanes, blue jackets,
Leafs, Rangers, Oilers.
First team?
What's his first team?
What's his first team?
Who drafted him?
Who drafted him?
Jack Roselvic.
I don't know.
Hilariously, it's the team he spent the most time with the Winnipeg Jets.
The team we're talking about.
Oh, I'm an idiot.
Okay, yeah.
Right, right, right, right, right.
I forgot he was in Winnipeg.
And I don't know why I forgot he was in Winnipeg.
He's had a good career, man.
He's doing well.
Only six.
So he still got a couple to go to get to Bukes stab.
He's fine.
I don't know.
I think he's found a home here.
He's found a home.
Now, eight year deal.
Break the law.
Let's talk about the Trump.
Monom Maple Leafs who have won three straight games?
A week changes so much.
It does.
Massive Lake goal by Troy Stetcher.
But before we start, let me read you this.
Your call.
I was just loud.
I don't know if it was a good call.
It was pretty inelquent.
Your call could power this building.
It was pretty exciting.
That was electricity.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
It was not well-worded, but I was struggling with my words all night.
Doesn't matter.
Mark Masters said.
No, you're not going to play this.
No, you want me to?
Oh, I want to play it.
All right.
If you want to play it, I get embarrassed with this stuff.
Oh, oh, no, don't play it.
Oh, no.
You're not going to play it.
Oh, we didn't, it's not on ours.
Where is it?
Rob Malloy.
Oh, Rob Malloy.
Yeah, Justin, Justin didn't like it enough.
Rob Malloy put it up.
Okay. Justin!
Hold on.
Post the clip from last night.
There go.
Marchaco's got a ball.
The game winning goal.
Chaco's got Nylander.
Nealander back at the point.
Nealander.
Shot in. Paul tries to redirect that puck turned aside by Garand.
Marchenko with a shot, turned aside by Garand.
And Paul playing it download a Neelander.
Now the Rangers are going to get it.
It's Adam Fox trying to break this puck out.
Gabe Perrault, puck intercepted by Darren Radish.
The puck does get out past the Leafs blue line.
50 seconds left and 56 seconds left to go, excuse me, as the Leafs break back in.
And the second and first lines are trying to put this game away for your Toronto Maple Leafs.
Neelander, it's hot.
The Adam deep breaths.
Here we go.
Nick Paul.
See?
Nick Paul all by himself while the Leafs change.
He gets brought down.
There's going to be a penalty.
There's going to be a penalty.
Leaves to the power play.
Here we go.
Shot and score.
It's Troy Stencher.
Troy Stetcher.
Huge goal.
There was a delayed penalty on the call.
The Rangers were complaining.
Nick Paul gets the shot,
puts it over Grant through traffic.
And the Toronto Maple Leafs take a 26 second.
left lead as Troy Stetcher raises his hands to the sky and tells Leifes Nation to get up off
their seat. Huge goal. Huge goal. And look at this effort from Nick Paul. He just basically
begs Ty Carty to bring him down. And he sure does. He sure brings him down. And that is a penalty
10 times out of 10. Troy Stetcher puts it top cheese and the Leafs go freaking crazy on the ice.
Look at the celebrations.
Every time Troy's sketch and stetcher scores, everybody's throw.
Look at that.
When was the last time you saw joy on the Leafs bench ever?
Joy on the bench, guys.
That's a leader of coffee.
This team's got vibes.
This team's got spirit, baby.
A special shout out to the double espresso and espresso that I'd had before the third period.
How many units of caffeine did you have here?
It was a lot.
I don't know how to measure it, but it was a lot.
We need a goalhorn.
Yeah, we do have a goal horn.
I don't know why it didn't go off on that one.
But the goalhorn would have added to the actor.
But very well done, Adam.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
That was, I sometimes try to say too much and too little of time.
The thing about doing those calls sometimes.
I can.
You got it.
Because Kulik and ice the puck.
Yeah, just cut.
Just cut.
Say less.
Sometimes you don't have the background of the arena for where an actual play-by-play
doing the broadcast has that to lean back on.
You have to fill the space.
So I think it goes well done.
Oh, thank you.
Most of the time we're not doing play-by-play.
Like we're chatting.
Last night was just a berserk chat.
Everybody was kind of crazy.
I want complaints from the neighbors.
Yeah.
That was great.
I hope that the walls are thin here as we hear from the construction noise.
I'm going to get some tomorrow.
Congrats to all the winners of the New York Rangers jerseys.
So tune into our live streams.
We always have prizes for those and you can win stuff.
We talked about and Steve mentioned this earlier.
We talked about it last episode,
but you talked about it earlier today with the,
Senator's Panthers game.
And, you know, since the Leafs went out of the playoffs in 24-25 against the Panthers,
where the Panthers really dog piled on in the media and said, you know, everybody hates
playing there.
The media and fans lost them the series.
All that shit.
Oh, they're too hard on Marner, who objectively, along with other players, was not good
enough.
And they knew he wanted out.
He knew he wanted out.
And then last year, the Leafs come out flat and bad.
and soft.
And at the beginning of this week, even, we have people going, well, they should have
on to Brandon Carlo because, you know, they need.
Good Lord.
Yeah, like, no.
Like, no, you.
Who hurt you?
You got to have, you got to have some pride in the crest.
And Troy Stetcher, this is what he said to Mark Masters after the game.
Two sentences.
Three, actually.
There is so much passion around the city for the Leafs.
I've really tried to embrace that.
I love being a Maple Leaf.
It feels like you're playing for something bigger.
than just the 20 guys here. It's really special.
Love that. This is why, like, you know, last week we kind of gave it to Stetcher.
And by we, I mean me. But in those criticisms, I never criticized his work ethic or his passion.
He's a beauty. He's always been a beauty. His good games, his bad games. He's a beauty.
He's played four straight games of 26 minutes or more, or sorry, of 20 minutes or more.
in the Blue Jackets game he played over 26.
They need him now more than ever.
I mean, they already had an injured decor,
and they lost two guys yesterday.
They lost the whole third pair, basically,
or two third pair options in Blankenberg and Rify.
Scores his first NHL goal,
plays six more minutes, gets hurt at practice.
Like, geez.
Incredibly important part of this team.
and and I want to we'll get to you you pulled up a stetcher scrum last night was the game of unsung
heroes I think um they've needed he's he's the best waiver claim they've made in a very
long time uh honestly one of Bradshaw living's best moves well the only move he made for months
yes literally the only move he made for months
he got Caden Primo lost him
By default it was one
because the next thing on the list was nothing
Yes so it was the best
It was also the worst technically
The best move he made
For more than half a year
Was getting Troy Stetcher off waivers
And you need a guy like this
And you need a guy who the team goes ab-shit for
They lost their minds
And that wasn't just that we're gonna win this game boys
this was Troy goddess one.
Yeah, Troy Stetcher has a Steve Dangle-sized dog in him with the passion.
I write.
Like, he cares about being a leaf.
It's really cool.
And he reiterated what he told Mark Masters in the scrum post game.
So I just want to play it for you guys here because it is everything you want out of a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Pretty good celebration there.
How would you describe your emotions?
I'll tell Mark after the game, just dating back to last year, I've really embraced being a Maple Leaf.
by like,
so much passion around the city
and so much love for the Leafs
that it's a player
it's really hard not to feel.
Like,
it's pretty easy to feel special
and be a part of that group.
So, yeah, just trying to bring the arena together, you know.
It's more than just S-20 in here.
It's a big time fan base
and I feel fortunate to be a part of it.
Yeah, I'm sure you.
And, and...
That's awesome.
And, you know, the thing they're not showing,
obviously they're showing the goal,
they're showing the celebration,
from the bench. I'm not seeing
enough gifts on Troy Stetcher looking
at the crowd going get up, get up,
let's hear it, let's hear it. Not for the first time
either. You did that last year. Not that they needed
to get up. They were up. No, they were up.
There would be some people listening to this going, were they not standing?
They were standing. And that goal was
Jesse, you said the term in the chat, and I forgot
how much I liked this term. Bottle knocker.
I don't think I said that. I'm pretty sure you did. I don't think he did.
That doesn't sound like a Jesse saying. No. No.
That sounds like a C.J.
It's like something you can just check.
Yeah, I had a bottle knocker.
I don't even know what that is.
I don't think I've never heard that.
I'm checking this right now.
Bottle knocker.
Bottle knocker.
So, you know, and it comes.
Oh, I was Drew.
Yeah.
Whoops.
There you go.
Wow.
I was like, I don't remember saying.
Not the thing.
Not the thing I would expect Drew to say either.
No, it's just in my head.
I was like, Jesse said that.
Give Jesse praise.
All right.
Praise.
Take the phrase, Jesse.
Yes.
The thing about it, too,
that I think we don't talk about enough.
And Steve sent it through, Jesse.
Can you pull, there's a text that Steve sent through this morning.
Did I send it?
And it's, it's Ty Cartier, not Ty Cartier.
Cartier, like the expensive brand, which I'm so familiar with.
I know Rangers fans love this player, and he scored last night and he's been great for them.
There's another waiver claim.
This should drive you feral this more.
You did not need to lose this game.
No, you didn't.
And it's, it comes down to, and this is just,
basic hockey shit, you got to keep playing.
I said this about Roslovick a few games ago.
Yep.
Where he was complaining about a call or a non-call or whatever it was, the play continues.
And because he's behind the eight ball, the other team comes down the ice and scores.
And I'm like, brother, cousin, nephew, dude, there's a game going, there's a national
hockey league game going on.
Can you please continue playing?
Yeah.
and he's not the only player in the league that does this.
Lots of players do it.
And here's Ty Carty.
The puck is...
He can touch it.
He can touch it.
Two inches from his knees and he's not looking at it.
He could kill this play and put it to the power play right now.
He's doing what the fans are doing.
Actually, no, the fans are watching the game,
but they got their arms in the air, right?
Because they're campaigning for a call,
which they don't need to do because they already get.
Got it. He's got his hands.
His eyes are closed in this, bro.
Because he's emoting. He might be blinking, though.
Whatever.
Yeah.
Play the puck.
Knee it.
Kick it.
The puck is almost touching you and you're just complaining there on your knees.
That's embarrassing.
Knee it, kick it, swat it with your hands.
Grab it with your hand and throw it.
I don't know.
Like, do whatever you got to do.
Like the Rangers are off to a great start this season,
better than anyone could have hoped for, especially with Chesterkin out.
Yeah.
This should have been at least, this should have been a comeback game
where you get at least a point in the standings
and the way the least play three on three, maybe two.
And Zabinajad said that at the end of the game.
Like in the post game, he was like, we thought, you know,
we tied it up late and we were trying to go for that extra point
and maybe get that second point.
And it's unfortunate that like we didn't get anything.
Like, it's bad.
When you miss the playoffs by one point, this is the kind of shit you remember.
Yeah.
Right?
Like this is inexcusable.
And yes,
Leafs have done this and yes,
I've called them out.
I'm not picking on the Rangers.
I'm not picking on this player.
I'm not saying this player is bad.
That's,
there is absolutely no excuse for this.
You let your emotions get the best of you.
I know there's less than 30 seconds left
and you took a penalty.
Play to the whistle.
Yep.
Play to the whistle.
Look how comically,
Nick Paul could have accidentally played
this between Carty's legs and blown it dead.
That's how close it is.
And he one hands it, basically.
He's got like the tippy tips of his fingers on his on his top hand on the stick.
Like this is, this is a dog in Nick Paul fighting to keep the puck, fighting to draw the call,
fighting to keep the puck
it's crazy he doesn't get an assist
on this but so many guys
had to touch the puck after this
it's inexcusable
and second most embarrassing person
in this clip is the guy
in the suit why are you at the Leafs game
in a suit you are the meme of every Leafs fan
you're wearing a suit in the second row
at Scotia Bangorina
I assume you had sushi that night
what is the
that sweater what's that sweater
what about suit?
I know suit guy
There's nothing wrong with a knit sweater
Yeah, he's wearing a normal ass sweater
Hey, that's a nice sweater
What if there's a leaf logo on the front?
Yeah, I know there's no Leafs logo on that blazer
What if the guy behind you wants to like make waffles from scratch?
Steve, Steve, you can't
I know that sweater's probably $600.
No, no, let's just go to the other thing.
Let's go after the knit sweater guy.
Yeah, like what are you talking about?
Who at least is the same color as the team.
Two seconds.
I can't. I'm well established.
I can't.
Oh my gosh.
And this is how I know Toronto is a city with lots of people of Italian heritage.
Because you have a whole section of people going, oh!
And it worked.
The other thing about this game, obviously, is both teams kind of go in as the blue and white versions of each other.
They have offense, they have goal attending, they have no defense.
And that's what made the game so fun, right?
And, you know, Toronto got up, New York got up early, and then Toronto got up, and the New York got up, and then Toronto won.
And it was a great game start to finish.
Even Rangers fans in the chat were like, yo, that was fun.
We're kind of pissed, but fun.
What I am surprised about with Rangers fans,
because I love as we go on our, as the Leafs go on their tour,
we get to like touch points with every city.
How pissed Rangers fans with J.T. Miller last night?
They were so mad.
People are just.
How didn't he get called for the Riley shit?
I don't know about that.
I'm not really sure how that didn't happen.
But I more than just that, I think it's not just what happened last night that they're like,
oh, this is the first time we're mad.
It's, it's J.T. Miller is rubbing them the wrong way.
and they're having a great start.
It's weird.
He's original Pokemon cartoon series Charazard.
Yeah, he's a very good player when he wants to be.
J.T. go out tonight.
I'm not listening to you, Ash.
The difference is it's Mike Sullivan behind the bench.
Like, what are you doing?
Yeah.
It's wild he's captain in the National Hockey League.
He's an incredible player sometimes.
Yeah.
Now, the Leafs do have, please.
Here's what I need from you, because you guys are sickos, and I'm a sicko too.
That's why we get along so well.
I'm going to ask a question that's silly, and I want you to try your best to answer it,
but I want the audience to answer it also.
Was that the best fourth-line performance of,
the Matthews era.
Yes.
Other than Brian Boyle
to Kasparik Hapinen
to win game three
in the 16-7.
It was a game two
overtime 1617.
That was awesome.
And that's one goal,
but that was just one goal.
That was a,
they had a three-point game
from.
Yeah,
I was glad you brought that up
because I didn't want
to get too far away
from the least
before praising that fourth line
because that was one
of the most exceptional
fourth-line performances
I think we've ever seen
in this era of Leaves-Hockey.
It was
You gotta remember the bar is in hell.
A ridiculous 14 minutes of ice time for Brandon Duhame.
That's psychotic.
1518 for Teddy Bluger.
Absolute psychosis.
And considering what he is to this team,
seven minutes for Zach McEwen.
I'm gonna go out and say he should have gone more.
It wasn't enough.
He made the most of the seven.
It wasn't gone to work.
That was the most electric line that they had going last night.
And I don't remember a time that a.
that a fourth line has dragged this team to a victory.
Every time they touched the ice,
they dominated whatever matchup they had.
Whether it was like not the Rangers' fourth lineers,
whoever got line matched,
like they were really good.
They've dominated for the three or four straight games.
Yeah.
And like Zach McHughan,
I think Steve,
you deserve a lot of credit for just identifying in training camp
that he could be somebody.
And like,
so you said last episode,
blew out his knee.
You said last episode how you don't really
miss, you thought you were passionate about
Bo Gru. I'm on your train
there. I'm not really passionate about Bo Gru anymore.
Well, like Bo Grue, I think is
Bo Grue is probably a more talented
player than Zach McEwen. I don't
think that's controversial.
But if you can be something,
pick that thing and be the shit out of it.
Yeah. And that's what McEwan is. I don't think he can
be more than a fourth liner for you and that's his fatal
flaw, right? He can't
be more than a fourth liner for you.
Bogro can be a number of things for you adequately.
Yes.
And on occasion,
Goodly.
Zach McEwen,
like I identified it.
Like,
I saw it with my eyes,
but it was my whole section.
Like,
I was at the Leafs preseason game.
Who were they even playing?
Ottawa.
Montreal.
Ah, damn.
I had a 50-50 shot.
Yeah.
That's right.
It was,
I got to see.
Emil Andre's only home game.
game is a leaf. And I remember seeing him and being like, hmm, that's certainly one of the
players of all time. But the whole section by the end of the game is like, who's 19?
Like, you know, he's trying. Who the hell is 19? He's unbelievable. There is a very staunch
difference between a fast skater and a good skater. He is fast. He is fast. Yes.
Falls lots. I'm going to be just the most insane north-south player.
on this team.
Yeah.
And hungry for the puck.
Yeah.
Hungry.
Like he doesn't skate a million miles an hour into a hit just to make a hit.
He caused a turnover that led to De Hames's goal.
And it was his awareness and Blugher's awareness and De Hames's awareness.
Like you'd never know that they just started playing together.
And you'd never know.
That was only like McEwen's sixth game of the season?
Yeah, because remember.
this wasn't the fourth line that started out for this team.
It was game one.
And then they went away from it.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
And then they scratched McEwen for like five, six, seven straight games.
Right.
And then now it's gone back.
But like even in the preseason, like that's Dakota Joshua's area.
Right.
It should be on this team.
And other guys should be moved down or up depending on where he slots in.
But like this wasn't the plan.
Do Hame and Blugher are the plan to be in this lineup?
But Zach McEwen specifically is like,
an extra is a 13th, you know?
And now he's, I think you can't take him out at all.
No, like today they used, I think it was Jonas Siegel,
used the term like identity line.
When was the last time?
When was the, the Leafs have had fourth lines with good players on them,
but they were random conglomerations of men.
Well, right?
This is a line with a purpose.
And isn't it interesting because in previous,
every other head coach,
when a guy was called up like a Vinnie LaTerry,
it was, well, yeah, just stash him on the fourth line.
They are like, no, no, keep the fourth line together.
We're not really sure what this third line is,
but we'd rather keep the fourth line together.
And when they scored, when Bluger puts the goal in,
did you see the celebrations from McEwen and do that?
Yes.
Just raw.
Raw!
Like they were just,
it's so deserved because they've been doing the right thing for a few games in a row now
and haven't been rewarded for it.
Yeah.
They've been getting praise for it.
Like, hey, we're winning our men.
minutes, blah, blah, blah, blah. And good short-handed, too, all of them? Yes, yes. Well,
Duhayman. Yeah, yeah. And like they, I mean, after a game like that, you've killed,
so like, imagine how it feels to be Brandon Duhame and Teddy Blugher right now. You had,
you're essentially the reason the team won the game. You have killed 28 straight penalties,
and you both had multi-point games. Blugher had two. Dooham had three. Has Duham ever had a three-point
game in his life? I don't know, but it would be
Did he ever with Minnesota?
Absolutely not. His career high
in goals is nine. I think his career high in points
is 12.
I can look that up. I think Ryan Reeves all
is the second season. He was with the least had like
two points or three points.
Do Hames's career high in points is 21 with the
capitals two years. Whoa!
Kather Barnburner?
But the next closest was his rookie season with the wild
at 17. Most of his seasons are
10, 8, 9, 5, 3.
What do you have last year?
He had 9.
He scored 33% of last year's points last night.
Yep.
Zach McEwen, by the way, 84th percentile in max speed, according to NHL.
Oh, wow.
And I-
I had something I wanted to go through with you guys.
Please do it.
A couple years of fourth lines for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the New York Rangers.
So I've lined up random New York Rangers matchups from 25 to 21 for the Toronto Maple Leaf.
Got it.
I want you to rank them, Stephen Adam.
Oh, I love it.
On your favorites and the best and the worst.
As his S tier?
Sure.
Is we doing the tier?
Just sure.
Just sick oh shit.
This is.
2025 matchup against the Rangers.
Dakota Joshua,
Nicholas Waugh,
and Callie Yarncroke.
Put Nick Waugh in the fourth line.
Yeah, what?
That's your fourth line.
Oh my God.
Brewing.
Okay, so that is a lot.
I like,
um,
I was about to say I like all three players.
I like two.
of them. Yeah, no.
What is that line? What does that line do?
Go to prison. I like
Joshua and why I like
them together. What is that line? What does
it do? Okay, so that's your
25 one. Ew, yuck poo.
24. I got
them all lined down. I can just swipe through Hayden. Awesome.
24. Pontus Holmberg,
David Kompf, and Ryan Reeves.
Oldbork and Kopp's job is to keep
Reeves from fucking it up. That's basically it.
Yeah, and no disrespect to Reeves,
but he was not a good player.
Full disrespect to Reeves
for being a baby on the way out
and also for being a bad leaf.
Okay.
All right.
No, I mean, he's trying to rehab his image in Toronto now.
You see how sports net put him on the other day?
And he's like, no, actually, it's great to wear the crest.
And we're like, no, you don't believe that.
You don't believe that.
You should stop it.
You're a defensive liability,
but at least you didn't fight.
Get out of here.
No, his name should be remembered here in infamy.
That was a terrible signing, terrible play.
Or not remembered.
I assume the two of you are putting 24 below 25.
Yes.
Yes.
There is objectively way less talent on the comp, Holmberg line.
By the way, Pont is good, camp useful, and Ryan.
Okay.
You want 23?
Keep the puck away from Ryan.
Now we're into Dubas Shelton Keith here, right?
Yes.
Okay, all right.
Okay.
23 Rangers matchup was McMahon camp Noah Greger.
That is pre-good Bobby McMahon, though.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
He was just.
Guy. He was guy.
Okay.
So this line's got a little bit of purpose, though.
Where's this one going?
These are speed demons.
This might be second best.
Yeah, because Camp is a good defensive,
good face-off winner, good defensive player,
zero physically, zero on the offensive side,
zero anything else.
And let me light my money on fire.
Flanked by two north-south speed demons.
Yeah.
Right?
Where, like, I like Joshua and Watt together.
And then Callie Yarncroke fills the,
commonly fourth line role
of random man.
Can we just say?
This has purpose.
Look how soft that lineup looks.
Martin Jones started.
Oh,
Martin Jones had a good run, man.
William Lagasson.
Timothy Lilligrant in the top four.
Their right side was dead ass.
T.J. Brody, Timothy Lilligran,
Connor Timmons.
And we thought Stanley Cup favorite.
They got it with the cup.
You know what?
They should trade first at the deadline.
We're idiots.
What are we doing?
They did get,
didn't they not get run?
O'Reilly that year though?
No.
They didn't.
What year was this?
Is this?
This is,
is Dubes?
Is this Dubes?
Backed up by
Elias.
This has to be 24.
Dubis did not
No, no.
This is 23.
This is a...
Can I ask who won?
This is the
December 19th,
2020, 23.
Okay, this is 23, 24 season.
So this is for Living's first year.
Good Lord.
Okay, it's not Dubus.
All right.
By the way,
that's a thought,
that's team though.
Ironically, this is a Rangers
matchup.
Yeah.
So Reeves probably did
fight in that game.
It was Matt Rampi.
Now, this is back in the height of the core four era where the Leafs had four guys and bunch of men.
Oh, my God.
Fourth line is Zach Aston Reese, Pontus Holmberg, and Joey Anderson.
Better than you might expect.
That's okay.
Homeberg, just because Holmberg's raised his stocks since leaving.
Anderson.
Aston Reese is one of the guys of all time.
I'll give you the date.
Since you guys want the dates, it is December 15th, 2022.
I used to think Joey Anderson was going to be a guy.
Well, you wanted him to be.
But isn't this what I've been talking about, though?
Aston Reese, on your fourth line, okay, I get it.
Holmberg on your fourth line.
Okay, I get it.
Random man.
And Giodano Hall was our top defense man.
Her foot camp.
Oh, Riley must have been injured.
Yeah, but Gerdano Hall.
Malgan Tavaris Marner.
Oh my God.
They iced that.
Oh, wow.
Are they going to head Marchman?
Okay.
Okay.
Can you accomplish your third line center with Pierre Engval?
I've changed my mind.
Matthews should have at least six heart trophies.
Oh my God.
This is a bad.
This is not good.
What is this?
Matt Murray Sampsonoff are your goalies too?
Oh yeah.
Matt Murray started that game.
Oh my God.
Hang in there, Pittsburgh.
Injured Nick Robertson, Callie Yarncourt,
Jordi Ben, Morgan,
Jake Mugge, Victor Mette.
So Mutz and Riley should have been in this lineup.
So this is why it's looking a little weird.
Whatever.
Extras.
Okay.
Last one.
Okay.
Where are you putting this one?
You guys are following along with the rankings.
That's a rough.
This is below the other one that 20.
That's like rookie Holmberg.
Yeah.
I think that's that's worse than than because at least Holmberg and Comptant at that point,
defensive players.
Okay.
So this one's bottom tier.
Zach Asson response is Holmberg, Joey.
F tier or whatever it is.
Last one.
Michael Bunting,
Jason Spetsa,
Wayne Simmons.
Yo, I love that.
Okay.
I can love that.
I like this
because it's not your
typical fourth line,
but it's very capable of scoring.
That was early in the season
because Nick Ritchie is playing for the Leafs.
Oh,
oh, he's on the first line.
Richie Matthews and Marner.
How did you fuck that up?
You stink.
Who, Richie?
Yes.
How many years did they play
Kerfut with Tavaris and Nealander?
They deserve a medal.
I liked Andre Kasha before he got injured again.
He was good.
He was good.
The third line feels more like the fourth line.
That's Engval, Komp, and Andre Kasha.
The asterisk next to Kasha that says game time decision is a little on the nose.
Yeah.
But no, Bunting, Spetsa Simmons, they can score, they can mix it up a bit.
I love that.
That was before bunting had earned his spot on the top line.
This number one?
No, last night's is number one.
Last night's is number one.
These guys are number two.
No, last night's doesn't count.
Oh, okay.
Oh, yes.
Number one.
This is best.
better than last year's with the Niqua?
Yes.
Yeah.
Yes.
Also, the vibes were better.
Last year's vibes were really off.
Yeah, it was just a weird year.
Yeah.
Anyway, ooh.
Man.
Some of the fourth lines of the past.
We've seen some thinness here.
Holy.
Thank goodness for the cap going up.
My God.
Crazy.
Matthews should have 19 heart trophies, actually.
That is crazy.
If you've got a busy life and kids and things going on,
Factor makes real meals, all fresh, never frozen, always cooked and ready in minutes.
And they're healthy.
When time's tight, this is what you need.
We're talking chicken pesto, steak with veggies, roasted salmon, meals that feel like they were cooked for you, not by you.
And they're delicious.
You had me at pesto.
Isn't the pest? I know it's great. Real food, great flavor, and the kind of meals that actually support the work you are putting in to your life. So, if time or cost or effort are holding you back from eating better, Factor just took all of those off the table. And Jesse, I know you love them every time you go to the Leafs. I absolutely love the Fusili Shrimp Alfredo. Oh, it's fantastic. Right now, you can get up to $90 off in free shipping. Hurry. Hurry. This offer is not going to last long. Go to factormeals.ca. Terms and conditions apply.
So Connor McDavid has had a casual five-point night last night,
and here's the thing, the Leafs were playing them on Saturday.
Hopefully he used up all those points.
This is from the NHL, eight goals, 31 points.
He's on pace for 260-something, you know.
26 of those points are primary points,
eight multi-point games, six, three-point games,
four-four-point games, three-five-point games.
So you're reading the NHL's tweet, right?
Yeah.
What do they mean multi-point games?
Because isn't, they say like three,
Two, two or more.
So, but like, didn't they say like six?
Six, three, four, four point games, three, five point games.
But that's more than eight.
No, I, oh, I guess they, I guess they qualify a two point game as in multi-point game,
but they could have just said two point games, eight two point games.
So, yeah, so it's not more than two.
Yeah, you're right.
It's not multiple.
So, yeah, you're right.
It's wrong.
I got into the show, that is, we know, because they said there'd be no math.
They tweet out the dumbest way possible.
No, you're absolutely.
I'm not a two point game.
No, it's multi.
I'm sure that's what it was.
I'm sure somebody in marketing's like,
actually we refer to those as multi-point games.
I'm like, you know how I'm working at a big quarter.
I was like, no, but the other games add up to more than eight.
So it's more multiple point games.
Anyways, that.
Jesse, that annoyed me looking at.
Unlike with the four-gold, no hat-trick take, I am 100% on yourself.
Okay.
That is great.
That is the correct take.
The wording should be more exact.
Now, Leaf Soiler Saturday and Leaf fans were always like,
already were like, listen.
I'm prepared for the worst because the Leafs defense is bad.
It is.
Now here's the thing, though.
The game's in Edmonton, so they have a shot.
Why?
Why?
Because McDavid likes to just take a friggin' meat cleaver to the Leafs every time he comes here.
Oh, that's true.
Yeah.
He did say on a, some kid asked him at a streeter like, hey, what's your favorite place outside of Evanton?
He's like, Toronto.
Toronto.
It's because he grew up here.
It's not because he's coming here.
Yeah, because like between game and at every.
Every intermission, he just drinks several pints of blood.
No one knows from who.
And goes out there and he gets like eight points.
So how worried are we about Saturday night, guys?
I think it's going to be a fun way to spend an evening.
Bovrovsky took the day off today.
Chris Tanev will travel with the team.
Yo.
John DeVars, hold on.
You're Dakota, Mirmis and Cole McWard.
And you're like, yo, sick.
we've been called up.
All right, who's next on the schedule?
Like, imagine you're getting ready
to play like the Peoria Riverman.
And you have to take on
Connor McDavid
and Leon.
This year. And I think Nuge is back.
Yeah, he's back.
I want to say this too.
The people
that were like, hey, this is a perfect time
to call it at Danford. No, it's not.
Monday will be perfect.
Monday will be great. Calgary. Fantastic.
Call them up then.
I, no, he needs to play.
I imagine he's getting big minutes with the Marleys I haven't seen.
He needs to play down there, work on his shit, then call him up.
They say he's almost ready, man.
I just love that.
Hey, Cole, you want to play in the NHL?
Oh, my God, yeah.
No, that'd be a dream come true.
Okay, how bad?
Do you want to go up against this?
I don't know how much you guys saw the game last night or wanted to chat about it.
But like that for the on ice, just chaos of what it was.
That was the game of the year from just entertainment standpoint.
It's been stellar hockey this week.
Oh, yeah.
No, but the game last night was the Oilers game was insane.
No, Steve wants to talk about the guy in the sweater.
Yeah, yeah.
Hey, where did you get?
Is that a Zara thing or is that like more of a Harry Rosen thing?
All right?
Going into the game, going into the game,
you got the return of two long time.
tables on both teams is the Nuge return game and the Seth Jarvis return game. And then both
guys deliver like Seth Jarvis on that completely unreal 360 around Evan Bouchard is just
magic. And then Nuge has his own big game. He has the shootout winner in the end of it and his
return, which is just so cool. And I don't know how Edmonton fans feel about Jack Michaels.
I've never actually thought about it. But I thought having Jack Michaels in the booth for that
game and for all the oilist games he's able to rise to the occasion because he's so much more
hyped up than the other broadcasters we have yeah you know like chris cuthbert isn't reaching
that level that jack michael does in a different way you got to you got to mentally prepare yourself
differently for calling connor macdavid hockey games you are probably going to be calling plays my
grandkids are going to hear yeah yeah this is this is when all is
said and done, it is downright reasonable to assume Connor McDavid is going to be the second
leading score of all time behind Wayne Gretzky. And his best goals are going to be shown forever.
And it's going to be your voice. Yeah. And I think you have to live up to that. And I think
the excitement that Jack Michaels brings to the game adds to all of that. And when so Valamaki ties or
takes the lead for the hurricanes like two minutes to go or whatever in the game, you think like,
okay, that's their game winner.
Edmonton.
No, you don't.
Right?
Most other games, yeah.
Edmonton pulls their goalie.
A goal happens, taken back.
McDavid's like, no, I'm not going to take this.
I score, they score again, and eventually the game's tied.
They score twice in two minutes.
It's ridiculous.
And then there's a moment at the end where there's like 26 seconds left and they throw
like two seconds back on the clock.
And Jack Michaels in like the most excited way possible, he's like,
I'm not sure if this game is going to go to overtime.
not because it's a serious possibility and then they almost score it's insane it went to a shootout
yeah and then three on three like it's such a shame that that just can't keep going on because there's
so much chances back and forth jackson blake in the three on three overtime makes and a just
an unreal stick play on Connor macdavid who's breaking on this three on three and he's been out there for
a long time his legs aren't aren't all there but it shows that like the hurricanes have so much
depth up and down and like jack micha yes or jack michael
Jackson Blake's name isn't Leon Dreisel at all or Conn McDavid.
It doesn't have that name recognition,
but they're so good defensively that he can make this play on McDavid.
And it wouldn't surprise me at all if that's a Stanley Cup preview.
Like, just top to bottom there.
And you look at that game, you say Jordan Stahl would have had such a great impact in this game.
Some of the local Keynes reporters were tweeting out how every Edmonton goal was scored off of a face-off draw loss.
And so like they would lose a face off.
Edmonton was score within the next like 30 seconds of play.
And how many times would Jordan Stahl be in that dot for the Hurricanes win that draw?
And then we're not even talking about Edmonton goal.
So I feel like healthy on healthy would have been amazing.
But you're not always going to get that in the NHHL, you know, especially in the playoffs.
You're almost never going to get that.
You're never going to get that.
And it's two goalies who just I feel bad for them for what they had to deal with in front of them.
I looked pretty happy.
There wasn't even a lot of shots on goal.
Like, by the end of it, I think we had, like, less than 50 shots on goal total for both teams.
And we had technically 10 goals in the back of the net and the plus the shootout winner.
Like, what an amazing spectacle of these two teams put on.
Here, I can look that up for you, how many shots?
Because I noticed that, too.
I just, I looked up at the scorebug and I'm like, oh.
Yeah.
No, Edmonton had like four goals on nine shots at one point.
So, again, I ask you.
Bussing five goals allowed 16.
How are we feeling about Saturday night?
21, 27 shots on goal.
21 shots for Edmondson, 27 for Carolina.
So how are we feeling for Saturday night?
I think it'll be a very fun hockey game.
Be sure to tune into stream.
It's two teams who are absolutely streaking, right?
Yeah, yeah.
And are thought of in the same regard.
out of Columbus moving on very quickly.
Just a couple of things.
First off, Matthew Nyes has been moved off of the power play.
Yeah, you got a fire rip bonus.
Like entirely?
Or V-B-2?
So Mark Shagg tweeted it out and then took it back, so they're not totally sure.
But what he had tweeted out was Rorinsky-Severson, Coyle, Natuskin Johnson,
and then Matechuk, Garland, Fintili, Monaghan, and Varankov.
And Varankov's name has come up in trade thing.
So I'm going to, I'll pull up Mark's thing
so I can correct the record here.
Is he hurt?
He said,
uh,
um,
he said,
I deleted it because they tried different units without throughout practice.
One set early,
one set later.
More than 10 guys involved.
He said,
Nyes was part of one of those teams.
Team is trying different things.
Yeah,
no,
you can't.
If you're trying a power play,
any power play without Matthew Nyes on it in Columbus,
regardless of what Mark tweeted.
Yeah,
I don't,
I don't like you get off the hockey.
Yeah. You're, uh, you're not good at this. So Varankov seems to be the next guy out there. And, um, what is it, what is he, what on earth is he done to earn that? What, to get to get a trade out of there? No, to be on the power. No, I was just saying he's in trade rumors. Oh. Oh, he's done plenty to earn that. Yeah. He's done lost to earn that. Well, so I wanted to take a moment to take a, to take a, to take a little bit of a thing on the, on the, on the Keryl Marchenko thing. And I wanted to give him a little bit more flowers. Obviously, he had another goal last night,
12 points in 12 games that's coming here.
He's had a point in every single game he's played as a Leaf
except against the Islanders.
He's 0 for 2.
So.
And the O for 2, the first one came off of like he's on a plane for a whole bunch.
Second half of the back to back just got traded.
Yeah.
And the Leafs believe that this guy has 40, 40 potential.
Yeah.
They believe it.
And I hope he does too.
He's been a monster since coming here.
And I don't, Columbus fans and Lee fans are a little too.
early on the is this a trade of a bus for the blue jackets i think the coach is a bus for the blue
jackets let's let's see what happens it's a trade that's going to play out over the span of years but
you got to remember that broncov you know was like one of his key line mates merchenko's and i i think
there is there's a lot of dysfunction in this columbus team and tuesday nights game i after the game
like we came in here we did the show we weren't that we were hard enough on the blue jackets but
what's been amazing is the fallout in columbus
about that game.
It's the fallout of like, oh, like this is, like the fans are down.
Like, it's sad.
It's early in the season, but it's like I said, like Brady's return to Ottawa and
Marchenko's return to Columbus.
I'm not obviously saying it's the same thing, but it's, it obviously meant a lot to
the blue jackets.
Like you could tell from the way they played and they still got murdered.
That's.
If, I mean, you shouldn't overreact to one game, but if you were ever going to, you could be justified in making quite large changes here.
I mean, firing Rick bonus is one thing.
Who do you replace him with as another?
You know, you might be like, oh, friggin, uh, what's his face?
Hey, Bruce Cassidy.
Bruce Cassidy.
I don't, I don't think he's going to Columbus.
Hey, does Don Waddell make, uh, seven digits?
I imagine.
Then your job is to answer the question.
That's not our job.
Jobs to answer the question, man.
And I think that's the long and the short of it.
You know, we played the Oz Shucks clip from Bones after the game,
and I know people around the game love this guy.
And so nobody wants to be hard on him.
And I get it.
You know, he's your friend.
But the performance isn't there.
He should be retired.
What are we doing?
And what are we doing to Blue Jackets fans who don't need more of this?
A younger Blue Jackets team that doesn't.
need more of this, but it's also older than you think, by the way.
They don't need to be this bad.
No, they don't.
They're better than this.
So I just want to play another Devin Cooley interview because they, they, they won again last
night and he's just hilarious this guy.
So let's play this interview.
It's real short, but he's the man.
Say that, does that apply to the team as a whole as well?
Because a couple weeks ago, things were not going well and you guys kept saying,
commit to the process.
For sure.
Keep doing it.
Yeah, I think, I think we all have a lot of trust in, in our coaching staff and the way
that we work in practice.
Like you guys watch practice.
We've been doing liners every single day.
Like guys are in great shape.
Guys are working.
And I see the amount of effort and the amount of work that these guys put in.
And I'm just like, same with the goal.
It's just a matter of time before things turn around.
And everyone counted us out.
And we've gone head to head with two of the top teams in the league,
these past two games.
And we've won it.
It's been incredible.
And I already know the DMs I'm going to be getting from Team Tank.
Just stop winning, idiot.
But we're going to keep doing our best
And keep trying to win, you know
I love when players acknowledge tanking
And when they acknowledge what
Yeah, I love that he's acknowledging
What fans think the Calgary Flames
Ought to be
Man, there's a clip of Steve Irwin
And he gets asked if he drinks coffee
And he goes, no, top of my head blow off
He said it in not like me
In more Aussie terms, yeah
Yes, yeah
But I did Ozzy's the dignity of not even trying.
Yeah, which is nice.
That, I think, is Devin Cooley.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't think he's had a cup of coffee in his life.
That or he's had 14,000.
I can't decide which.
Caffeine pills, whatever it is.
Last thing to hit beforehand.
And also, there is no third team on the, on the Hela-Buck trade.
I thought there was.
It was reported there was.
And now there isn't.
That's the trade.
The trade is what the trade is, as we have had it.
But I want you to bring up, Jesse, the last thing on the prep sheet, if you can.
Because this is the last goodbye.
And I just thought it was kind of hilarious.
And I think the Winnipeg Jets social media team knows what they're doing.
Because throw it up on the screen there, Hayden.
The Winnipeg Jets have unfollowed Connor Hellebuck on Instagram.
Oh.
Wow.
As soon as the trade went through, goodbye.
Goodbye.
Yeah.
I think they were waiting to do that one.
I think they knew.
Conor Halibuck has an Instagram?
I guess.
You should follow him.
Let me go look.
Let me go look.
I bet it's about stuff.
I know.
What is he even interested in?
I know I'm sitting next to two absolute haters,
but I want to throw out there.
Nick Suzuki's current streak,
a second longest streak at the NHL,
his Iron Man streak comes to an end tonight.
He had not missed a game in his career,
and he'll be out now tonight against Chicago,
and he's on, I are.
Can I ask you why Habs fans are so worried of, like, listen, I know it's Nick Suzuki and he's
great and whatever.
They're going to be fine.
Oh, it's our season's in trouble.
So somebody hasn't been paying attention to the Habs.
It's been a very questionable start for them.
It's been rocky.
Even the games they've won.
It's been leads you shouldn't have given up and they've come back and won an extra time.
Donbish has been bad.
Dobish has not been good.
And I thought, that's concerning too.
Yeah, that's a big concern.
But it's not that they can't score.
It's that they, that Dobish needs to find his game.
Yes.
And now with Nick Suzuki out, you got to look at the forward group and say, okay, so we're taking away our first line center.
Things aren't going to go up from here.
So there is, I think, cause for concern there.
And the dobish thing, it's like the last game he was in when he cost them the game because of a stupid penalty that he took where he's trying to get an interference call.
That's something he's been doing since his Ohio State days.
Like they've brought up House fans some of the videos from back then when he's been trying to do that.
He needs to get his head on the shoulder, he needs to get his head straight to be playing in these games for this big market team.
I know he had that great playoff run, but it's been such a bad start to this year.
Like it's Jacob Fowler's net now.
And the Habs has to show that they can win some games.
Okay, but like, but it's not even Halloween.
Isn't that wild?
But guys, that's my point.
Like, okay, we know they can win.
And if Dobish is good, if he even finds his game partially, they're going to be fine.
Do we know they can do it this season?
Like last year is last year.
You can't just be like, okay, they did it last year.
They're going to do it again.
Show us some evidence here that you can consistently put out a really full 60-minute effort
because they have been failing with those.
And-
So get Fowler, most of the starts.
The guy's like 21.
Habs fans love their guys.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
And they've been defending and pumping up Nick Suzuki.
I mean, he's like a Selke winning 100-point guy.
Olympian
if you're missing them
and you've been praising them
like God for how many years
yeah you're going to be real worried these out
tonight's a it's an underratedly
really big game for the Montreal
Canadians against the Chicago Blackhawks
that's a team you have to beat
that's a team you should be
and you're down Suzuki
and you're down Demadoff who's
I think gonna be available
like week or so is it?
I thought he was out of while
I saw some things about
like maybe he's trending towards coming back.
I know he's not playing tonight,
but I don't know when he's going to be back.
But I thought maybe he's trending to coming back soon,
but we'll see.
They're without those two players.
And this is a team that's already underman the forward group.
Everybody just keep talking about how perfect Larkin would be there
because they need help.
They need help in their forward group.
So they need to go win this game and prove that like,
hey,
we still have talent here to get these games done
even without two very important players.
They lose that Chicago game in regulation.
I don't know if the sky will be followed.
but it'll be getting closer.
Yes.
Yeah, that market's going to be heated, I think.
So I don't know.
I'm going to be got a close eye on that game tonight.
Not a lot of NHL games on.
So I think Chicago and Montreal is the big game tonight.
Well, Montreal have no problem.
They're going to be fine with Chicago.
I have a lot more faith.
I don't know why I'm the one on the panel here who has the most faith in the Montreal game.
It's not about having.
Yeah.
It's not about having faith or not.
It's not about having faith or not.
It's just you got to go into it being like,
if you don't get it done, like there's concern.
And it's like there's reasons.
for concern based on their play.
I think Philip Dono can come up and play a bigger role.
A couple years ago in L.A., he had that 27 goal season.
Yeah, I would give it.
I would start with him.
It's Philip Dono, but like Oliver Capitan is the one taking the first line minutes.
Which is, I think, is an odd choice.
That's what they're, that's what they have to go with.
He was, I think, one of the number one added players on Yahoo.
This morning.
I was like, I don't know if I'm taking the main.
Oh, no, I've all of a sudden been become important at my job.
I'm Oliver Capitant.
I'm the first line center for the Montreal Canadian.
So it's about like, what do they do against the Blackhawks?
I don't know.
I think they'll be fine.
They'll be just fine.
Montreal, you'll be fine.
It'll be good.
Lane Hudson's time for you to take over.
You know what?
Oliver Capitant, it's time to show that what happened in the playoffs last year,
because he's the one who had a bad playoff to show,
I'm ready.
You don't need to trade for a second line center.
Got it.
This is your turn.
This is your opportunity.
Like Mike Babcock, every day in the NFL is a good day.
You know?
Take your opportunities.
You're there.
Make it happen. Let's go.
You're there.
I don't know if you saw any of the Ducks game, but they scratched Pavl Minticoff for Nick Jensen
last night.
And that's a guy who's making $7.2 million to sit in your press box, very young, 22 years old,
new contract, and Nick Jensen's getting playing time over.
Is the 7.2, is that this year?
Yes, I believe that kicks in this year.
Five years.
Strange.
Tristan Lindo is now on their third pairing, too, next to Jensen.

Ducks 4 and 6.
Interesting.
They're going to be a team to watch.
Maybe they forgot out of play hockey.

Which is fun.

Doe stall.
It's all dose all.
It really is that team.
Has to be.
