americans beating up on the slovaks we are doing a podcast it's a late friday show which means
you're either watching this at midnight or you're watching it tomorrow morning right before the game
uh just so you know how the weekend shakes out i'm doing bronze medal game 240 tomorrow
steve dangle gold medal games sunday morning at 8 10 eastern and five o'clock a.m pacific
um now adam yeah it's canada versus usa when i'm in the chat how should i handle that how should
you handle it how should i handle you should canada versus usa obnoxious and obtuse but because
i guarantee you the americans will be uh like the americans in our chat they've been they've been
super fun like really cool and i i've been encouraging them like every time they score
yeah throw the eagle in the chat everybody's like play free bird and the american flakes
if i'm like yeah like bring it great um but they're i just want to warn you that the american
stpn crew is strong they are loud uh and they are ready they're they're primed for this really going
against the grain so what i'm saying yeah like like you know i said on the stream today that
the kachuks play hockey like how america sees itself you just brash and ignorant and we're
gonna we're gonna mess you up jesus i don't know if ignorance not ignorant about like like we don't
give a shit oh don't bother me with the details is what i mean by that right we're just gonna crush
your face and by the way it was pretty funny we'll talk about that a little bit uh cernak and
matt kachuk got into it brady's like how about i pop him in the head uh that was great but
i think the canadians need to come back with a little huh a little you know what i mean
my favorite chirp as a canadian and i think we should start selling the t-shirts is uh what the
fuck is a mile i love that those are that's one of my favorite chirps because it's so subtle
that's good it's good i like that the i mean what the fuck is a kilometer is probably the
best chirp that americans have now yeah the same thing just going back yeah well that's what i'm
familiar with oh no i do i know i'm familiar with the mile no there's a guy he's wearing like a
friggin mel gibson's outfit from the patriot and he's just what the fuck is a kilometer
oh so they started that yeah i think they did oh okay so i wasn't familiar
stole it i wasn't familiar matthew kachuk called sunday's game uh obviously we haven't played it
yet um this is the pinnacle of the sport this is as good as it gets a rivalry that's as good as it
gets so there will be not one tv without this game on in the united states and getting canada
and that should get you pretty fired up they love the spotlight yep the canadians i think are a
little more understated about it but they don't seem to mind the spotlight too bad either you
have to love the spotlight to love this game and the canadians have you know some of them to
different degrees struggled under the spotlight well let's talk about it because the last couple
of games there have been i mean that's two come from behind wins uh-huh which especially if you're
advanced stats person it's not ideal they're the first team ever to have back-to-back come back
come back from behind wins come from behind wins to reach the gold medal that's crazy and you know
great comeback win we'll talk about the specifics of the game but i want to start with there was
two halves to the canada game today oh there was there was the first 30 minutes yeah and then there
was the second 30 minutes the first 30 minutes i was like oh no we'll never recover from this
embarrassment they haven't been a great first period team they haven't been and then second
period 10 minutes in onwards completely controlled the game they completely dominated i think the
shots in the second were 14 to 3 what do you attribute that to uh finland park in the bus
which is a weird strategy for them yeah and i think canada they've come out in these games
trying to you know feel it out what's going on here and like i i think every game that they've
played they've you know led in talent pretty significantly less so against the fins that's
a really good team um so canada's like all right let's feel them out and let's just not make a
mistake which has led to mistakes um the fear when they're losing or when it's close or whatever
or once maybe they felt the game out um they just take over it's superior talent and
there's no more time and you saw that today and you saw that halfway through the game
there's no more time to see who's who you have it or you don't a few guys had a moment today
that they desperately needed reinhardt welcome to the tournament shea theodore welcome to the
tournament well reinhardt gave gaveth and taketh away gaveth and taketh away but he
gaveth after he took it away that's true that's the important one bennett also gaveth after he
took it away yeah right yeah few of these guys have really struggled to find their moment enough
of them have had it now and cooper did something in this game that he i guess didn't afford himself
the luxury of before this game and that's he shortened the bench which it's team canada so
you don't think you know i just roll four lines no sorry they're elite players and none of them
are as good as celebrini and mcdavid and mckinnon and so just raw he loads that shit up he's his job
whether crosby plays or not is to find no longer rolling four lines we need four lines with purpose
wilson bennett marshand no confusion whatsoever i know what you're there for suzuki is filling
in for the role of sydney crosby marner and stone stay together perfectly justified i like that line
perfectly justifiable and i understand everyone else kind of struggled and the second line for
this team what their second the second line is like the fourth i know i know it's so i what
they needed to find i mean it's a little late it's getting late well if crosby plays like seth
jarvis there's a really good chance he goes from second line to not playing yes which is bizarre
but if you look at the way the minutes are distributed he wasn't on the second line
he played like eight minutes or whatever it was horvat had a bit of a horvat's had a couple of
really listen i'm just gonna be honest with you i i don't think you can have horvat going up against
eichel and matthews the way he's been losing face-offs i'm i'm very if you're killing penalties
yeah i'm pretty surprised i'm pretty surprised but you know we're talking you know post-mortem here
they won yep but they haven't won it no they have and so we need to talk about that 100 right and
like bo horvat for me you know is a 56 this year and he is a career 54.4 what's going on there
that's i i do think that's a because i look at the americans and the way they start guys and
what i'm seeing is they immediately it's eichel and the kachuks and they're immediately in your
shit there's no puck well there is a puck this is the problem it's not the nhl right you can play
there is no puck style brady can go raw and matthew kachuk can go raw and then you have freaking jack
eichel there's nowhere to hide right nowhere to hide whatsoever so that you know no disrespect
the checks were unbelievable the fins were unbelievable but the americans are a different
beast jesse watching the canada game today uh what stood out to you as something that could be an
issue rolling up against the americans i think i'm a lot more positive on how that game went
than the general fan or the general watcher of that game i didn't really waver even when they
were down by those goals and thereby yeah those two goals early and then midway through the game
because you look at that first one it's a stupid penalty it's a really stupid penalty can't do
that that'd be sam bennett's penalty we all know sam bennett is he's got a magnet to a goalie's
head that's his thing that's what he likes to do he technically took two penalties and i'm gonna
hold him to that that too many men was his fault yeah yeah i know 100 that's why i think he served
it yeah it's because they're like he doesn't kill penalties so after the first period it's like what
do you do here exactly and that's really upsetting and okay finland scores on the power play and like
you're that's gonna happen special teams are a lot of places where games are won and lost and
these are guys who are really talented they're gonna score on the power play and the next one's
an ugly shorthanded goal yeah shorthanded goal okay it's fine but finland stopped playing hockey
they parked above and they thought they could get away with this thing to nothing and run away home
you know it's just like we're gonna escape with this victory we robbed the bank and we're leaving
here and we're going the gold medal game we're gonna get at least a silver and i was like if
they just keep doing this canada's gonna score oh yeah because it was relentless and it was line
after line because you saw finland sit back and then okay all of a sudden marshall and wilson
are dangerous and it got everybody going because it allowed canada to just play offense for a game
a half a game even like marner looked dangerous that slapper he had he had a one-timer and he had
um just coming off the bench flying into the zone like he wasn't even the puck was passed to him
before he was even on camera yes and he's and he went right in there oh yeah take that toronto
yeah and every leaf and he got stopped and i was like yes every leaf fan was like don't go in don't
go in we can't have martyrs no for canada stay losing so i i don't know i looked at that game
and i was like i'm reading people in group chats and on twitter and people discussing they're
writing canada eulogies oh i'm like it was guys it's halfway through this game and their team
canada and the other teams playing defense for this entire game they're gonna be fine and then
i i i admire that confidence jesse but holy shit that's very confident i was it's pro sports i was
they could lose the game obviously right but they're gonna get their chances here so if you're
asking about issues going into the american game the gold medal game it's like yeah you got to get
started earlier you got to look like that earlier but i don't i have confidence in this team that
they can win this game and they can look like the better team throughout it against the us team like
i'm not afraid and i'm not going to that game it's like oh man they're big underdogs they haven't
looked good i thought they looked good for the majority of that game against finland well
jesse that's great but let's talk about the heroes that led to the comeback
connor bedard mark shifley and evan bouchard evan bouchard sorry miko ranson scores on a on
the power play and all of a sudden it's man zach hyman should have been there dude it was the chat
it was it was monty python but i'm not dead yet like they're performing uh an autopsy on a body
with a that is very much still alive uh and like there's a time and a place for that conversation
like absolutely i i didn't think first intermission was that time no um or halfway
through the second but yeah no i was i was puckered i was puckered a little i was very
encouraged by their performance in the second reinhardt getting one made me go okay the beast
bleeds but there's been a lot of as cj puts it squeaky butt time you know what's one thing i'd
love to hear your guys's thoughts on if we're still on the he's gonna rise to the occasion
he's gonna get a done train if we're still riding that into the station are we a little more worried
about jordan biddington because i think this was one of his i would say weaker games i don't even
think it matters and that's not because you don't make a good point but they have said time and time
and time again this is our guy oh yeah i'm not saying like should we start him or not but are
we worried jesse i uh my therapist has told me that i'm not ah so here we are i'm not good with
the what if because the what if in life hey what if this happens that causes me anxiety what if
canada starts binnington i'm under a desk already they are they will they are yeah so are we worried
yeah fuck yeah man um i was worried going into four nations though you know the other goalies
connor hellebuck hey well and connor hellebuck did allow a couple of goals against the solvaks
today yeah it was in the third period it's a garbage time yeah but like let's not forget his
rep his like okay yeah regular season whatever but the camera immediately goes to jesse that
was perfect that was perfect the the the uh you know he wins wins the vesna i think he did he win
the heart no mckinnon won he won the vesna good enough best goalie it's the best you can do as a
goalie um but there were a lot of questions about him in the biggest moments and the jets eked out
that series against the blues but there were still moments in that series where you're like i don't
i don't know if he's got it right he's got it all tournament man he's been great sure all tournament
he's been great sure is he gonna be great on sunday well and and so to get back to jesse's
question am i worried yeah i'm worried but i'm riding with my guy like our guy hellebuck did
win the heart trophy oh he did win the heart vesna last year before oh i was also saying with
five minutes to go or 10 minutes to go in the game today he'd let in a couple of goals and one of
them was just a weird like the slovaks got a weird pass out front and slavkovsky scores and and you
know it breaks the shout out or whatever good i uh i was kind of like why isn't mike sullivan
pulling him pulling him well yeah because like okay shut up bids over pull him out yeah he's
your starter break yeah because lavi uh uh yeah they took him out at four nothing they took him
out of four nothing because the the slovak coach is like well we know where this is going i need
him tomorrow it's a back-to-back so you pull him out now he was pissed and he was punching the glass
and all that stuff please don't break your hand but i was wondering with the conor hellbuck like
listen he's not like injury prone the guy's a dog plays a bazillion minutes ah just throw
swayman in for 10 minutes and let him rest that's not the north american hockey mantra it isn't
which is why i was so surprised to see the europeans do it and i realized that's how the
europeans exactly which it is it's pretty logical very logical right it's like uh i need you
tomorrow you know we we often compare goalies to pitchers but their managers don't treat them the
same like hockey coaches treat goalies completely different from baseball pitchers they're they're
not overly concerned about or they're concerned about the rest days and playing back-to-backs
and stuff like that but you know if you see a team up five nothing or something which literally
happened today you'll never see the head coach go all right pull them out mid shutout you know
whereas in baseball that happens all the time and it's frustrating and fans go ma but it's so
commonplace that it's accepted right and also there's the extra day off so like it's this isn't
a a shock to hellebuck right okay i think i might be wrong too and saying it's one of his weaker
games because there were a couple saves there in the third that binnington did make that held
canada in there and i guess the semi-final game or the quarterfinal game you kind of nitpick a
little bit more how you were talking about him swimming a little but there's been i guess there's
been no real egregious goal that he's given up i haven't want back so well we should have confidence
in bitter there's there's just ah you'd like a save like yeah ranting in it's right off the draw
and it's ranting from like a good spot it's a snipe it's a shooter beating a goalie you like
your goalie to have it it's a good shot do you think he wasn't ready i think it might have been
it looked like it caught him a little by surprise because it was a nice play i think he was one of
five canadians who wasn't credit where credit is due they executed that perfectly perfectly and
they i think they caught him off guard a little and i guess there you look at it and like hey i
want you to be a little more on top of it yep dialed yeah and then the breakaway got beat on
a breakaway yeah again you're allowed to save those but your goalie's allowed to make a save
for you yeah i guess i guess the good news question mark is canada has made it difficult
to evaluate jordan binnington because like has he faced over 30 shots yet i don't know i don't know
i can check maybe the checks yeah i don't think so who had 30 shots on him you know what i mean
and yeah there's a brief moment in this game too where when finland just stopped playing and
canada didn't allow a shot on goal for like nine minutes if by brief moment you mean the second
period yeah it was the breakaway goal and then like 10 minutes later he fixed he faced his next
shot on goal right yeah right like they said it was a perfect period if not for goofing it up on
the power play yeah and something like like that's where my confidence in this team comes from
because i'm willing to excuse that mistake and believe that they have the rest of the game to
fix that and correct it which they do they smash finland's head into the ice like listen you want
to see them run up the score and everything they outplayed the shit out of them um you could
argue that a good game sorrows was unreal you could argue the checks were better honestly
in terms of a match for canada yeah like just in terms of uh actual overall play overall play
i think that's that's coaching i would blame that for film then like i think that was directed from
the coach and it's like okay we're not pressuring here we're not going for anything offensively
we're gonna try and not make a single mistake here for the rest of the game i think that was
a poor strategy oliver captain not playing a single minute yeah like i don't understand
coaches doing that and now we've seen finland well sweden almost did it or no they did do it
to oliver eckman larson in the first game yep they did um i was thinking of forsberg but yeah
the coaches they almost did it to two guys tourney seemed to be married to the lines you know when
you got four lines they want to run four lines and they consist and have the guys play with each
other and like i don't know i'm not a coach ahead i'm not a head coach of a team but like
when you got a 13th forward on your bench seems like a useful thing to have yes it use them give
other guys a break use them throughout your lineup but i don't know these coaches they love
they're regimented we got 12 forwards we run our four lines and that's kind of it's kind of funny
that the north americans are taking much more advantage of it yes because us and canada are
are using their 13th forward a lot of times for the states it's vinny trocek or it's jt miller
whichever it is it's been and they'll use them it's been difficult for me to stream at least
for canada i don't know how it's been for you with the states but like if i see one person on
the ice and they weren't there a second ago i'm like okay this line's hopping over the boards i
have no idea who the hell the other two forwards are i don't really know i have no idea until i
see them yeah well i think john cooper switched up his lines a lot more than than mike sullivan
has okay yeah john cooper's been playing with them a lot yeah the first two lines for the united
states are set yeah um that comes over the boards who's the other two force no idea i don't know
idea i don't know yeah i didn't what position is he playing i didn't know what the swedes either
whenever forsberg was on the ice i'm like i don't know i don't know um the and and brought in that
last game sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's
where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the

becoming the unofficial family tech support explaining why tia rosa in mexico city can't
hear you when she's the one on mute can you hear me download the remitly app today and keep your
long distance game strong remitly trusted by millions to send billions worldwide so let's
talk about the two sort of scandal moments that tamu solani is still losing his mind over i um
and i see no scandal uh well i don't know what he's and i understand being and i think we all
understand being emotional for our country okay and upset at a loss all right so i guess we start
with do we start with the offside or we start with the penalties what happened chronologically
what happened chronologically uh i think it was penalty
go ahead uh penalty penalty offside okay so that's where we start that's what i'm asking
yeah yes and and you know i again i will always understand somebody just blindly raging at
something um it doesn't mean he's right and he's not even sort of right and it's so funny i got a
couple of dms people like oh you really complained about the rest the other day
now you're gonna complain again so here's what's great both those games were televised
yeah it's so handy uh canada was complaining about it because they were um correct and then
uh finland was complaining in this one and they've been wonderful viewers they were so awesome in the
chat i didn't see any of them really going oh the refs like this is a tamu thing he's wrong it's an
after the game thing too something so many things happen during a game there's joel or mia too
yeah crying after the game you're wrong yeah yeah so the first thing that tamu solani complains
about is the high sticking that's called on nico micola when he high sticks mckinnon in front of
the net in the face that leads to canis power play that eventually leads to the goal so he tweets
this adam if you want to read it yeah beating greatest hockey country in the world and canadian
referees same night is impossible i guess absolutely embarrassing penalty 90 seconds
to go in the olympic semi-final what a joke now not even correct tamu tamu is interesting here
because technically speaking in the nhl they wouldn't have called this um and they would have
been wrong they would have been wrong and that would have been a frustration i stick them in
the face but he did and it's pretty clear i think drew's got the screen grab on his on his twitter
account i don't even know if we're allowed to show a screen grab show this yeah he's what do
you want he's chewing on the stick the marshan one was uh even worse yeah lundell i don't know
if you saw the video yet well no you would have been streaming but like i took a mini stick and
i just shoved it into my mouth under my lip because like that was straight up in his mouth
yeah yeah you see a guy get high sticked off and you don't see him usually brushing his teeth with
it um was the call a little delayed yes did mckinnon make a show of it i don't know about
embellished but like threw his arms up yes he was high sticked in the face well in the nhl they don't
call this okay we're having the wrong conversation fellas why don't they call this in the nhl
is it that it's not a league they're doing the wrong thing by not calling it even a little bit
like yeah no it's you got guys it's televised that's why my conscience i didn't expect this
when canada to win these games and like a penalty and people would just be complaining about the
referees on and like it's both sides really but i feel like like why are you upset at the loss here
the the refs didn't take this away from you they can your team committed an infraction joelle or
mia with the goalie interference on the second goal uh holla i think it was holla someone took
out the back of marshand's leg and he falls on top of sorrows and let's pretend it was marshand
being marchand and just doing the old freaking keith primo backstroke on top of a goalie um i
forgot keith primo used to do that he was very good oh my god he was the worst um get your coach
to challenge it then here i don't know oh you didn't challenge it i don't feel bad for you
yeah like there's a fail safe there that didn't used to be there where you can and figure it out
and why didn't the coach challenge it because it wasn't freaking goalie interference because he
knew he was gonna lose it yes and then that's a penalty yeah and so it's just i expected these
nations to be gracious and defeat no do you expect that i don't expect that shit no no come on i was
i was taken aback by the coaches that's crazy i was really taken aback by that like that that was
just straight up poor sportsmanship yeah that that was and then we're having the same conversation
24 hours later especially after such a fucking obvious third goal that was too many men sir but
sir but you almost scored the most scandalous goal in olympic history like what are we what
are we talking about tamu solani is at this point he's a fan i guess and let him be a fan i guess
this isn't the same like he's not the coach he's not the coach yeah yeah i don't know what the
finnish coach said he might have said something what is the next tweet that tamo sent out uh the
next one was he said and how about this thoughts and it's a screen grab of macklin celebrating
being on side well he's not conclusively offside so this the let me get my vision helpers on
so macklin is not 100 he's not conclusively 100 over the blue line on the screenshot he's not
the puck good luck where the hell is it i think it's next to one of the feet there it's right here
yeah that's what it is and i can't tell if that thing is 100 across the line i
think yeah but now i don't know the back heel is such in the blue right right in hd you can see it
i'm sorry for it's a screen grab i don't know what the word conclusive is in finnish but like
that's the rule it is it needs to be conclusive this i will say is probably the closest offside
challenge i've ever seen that was really close uh like a like a hair the finnish word is rat
kivisa rat kivisa okay okay rat kivisa an awesome language it's so good
there wasn't enough to call this back and
while we're here because hey here's what i learned the rules are malleable
yeah they are yeah it's a high stick but okay you get to do that how about i go
yeah i might have been offside but ah it's by a hair ah was a minute before the puck went in
what murder no no no you don't get to have it both ways tamu you don't get to have it both ways
the rules are or they aren't well i did find it funny that uh you know in another segment of
that's rich uh three pretty impressive florida panthers on the pan on the finnish team hilarious
that you know usually are used to these things going their way bennett cost his team twice
yeah lindell took the high stick on marshance and uh micola with the high stick on mckinnon
not surprised that the panthers are responsible for majority of the violence in the game crazy
um but the the um again timu's pissed because he's timu and he's a he's a he's a guy and you
know what's great about him he's a finnish guy who lives in the states right so you know what
he's doing he's galvanizing the americans he's cheering for the states of course he is of course
he is and and i think that that's that adds to the theater i love that sure i love this i want
him to be mad and you know what i want canada to win and i just want to i just want to see if he
tweets at all that's what i want the theater is there i'm i'm like oh timu i i feel your rage
and i hope that we shove your face in it on sunday morning too defeat is silent and victory is loud
yes so he'll let us know about it if the states win yep he will i don't expect to hear from him
if uh canada wins so we wish well unless there's a controversial call which there's inevitably going
to be yeah i think in general the refs in this tournament have been an abomination on both sides
yeah on the women's game on the men's game for canada against canada for every nation against
every nation i have not liked the refereeing but everybody's been playing with that same
refereeing and i think at the end of the day it kind of balances out that everybody's gotten
awful calls on both sides hockey's in a place where it's inglorious bastards and like i said
you know the third most italian like nhl refs get to go ah see we're not so bad right uh and it's
like yeah no just because the olympic refs are bad doesn't mean you're not also the olympics are
nhl refs although they're you you are there reffing these games two canadian refs
even though there was an american ref in the slovak game
no i haven't enjoyed the refereeing i think it's been a little asterisk on this tournament but
everybody's played under the same refereeing and i think it's balanced out so and i'm not
complaining about it we all know what the gold medal game is going to be about let everything go
does a team get three power plays three no one yeah two probably three no i was gonna say does
a team get two power plays i would say yes i had a i was wondering if um if jordan binnington makes
it through without getting hurt jordan binnington yeah with the kachuks in front of him oh do you
know how many times brady kachuk does the back no no adam you're forgetting we have sam bennett i
know i know he's going on here's what i'm worried about here's what i'm worried about i know the
kachuks don't give a shit i think sam bennett does and i think he'd be like well these are my guys on
the other end like if it came down to it and it's matthew kachuk you didn't get much of a shit about
sorrows is yeah but he's not a sorrows he's not sorrows his teammate is is sam bennett really
gonna punch matthew kachuk in yes i don't believe i hope so this is leafy this is leaf's brain
he's ours now let it be he's ours sam bennett's hours he's gonna go he's gonna go out there and
do whatever he can for a gold medal who did brady kachuk fight at the four nation faceoff
sam bennett oh okay because matthew wouldn't go yeah of course he wanted to go little brandon
hagel still got fed you freaking dork um yeah so there's a uh there is going to be a lot of of
of this to look out i think one of the things that canadians are going to struggle with is what to do
with that matthews line eichel line is incredible because you have their top six is stupid one of
the things that the the states are clearly doing you're skipping ahead of here a little as if
you're doing a preview of the game oh i was just oh yeah i guess okay we should probably the rest
of the game i guess we could go through the finish the canada game do the u.s game and then
all right all right i'll hold on to that do we have anything more with the canada game that we'd
like to hit uh yeah connor mcdavid is uh currently putting on the greatest olympic hockey performance
ever put on by a man um he has 12 points that's crazy and nobody it seems like it's gone unnoticed
unnoticed a few of them are secondary assists and stuff but like i think it was big head hockey
posted connor mcdavid has five multi-point games and zero one point games wow and also zero zero
point games uh it's because celebrini's 19 and he's leading the tournament in scoring
Celebrini played nearly 26 minutes.
CJ had the stat.
He played over 18 of the final 40 minutes.
Wow.
Celebrini was out there for nearly half the game.
And he's at the right age of life to be able to handle that.
Absolutely.
And McKinnon looked a lot healthier than he did against the Czechs.
Do you know who the all-time points leader is at the Olympic Games?
Isn't it not?
It's not Crosby?
Is it a point total above 20?
Yes.
Is it an NHL player?
Yes.
Okay.
is this only nhl players at the olympics no is it all time all time uh all-time points leader
at the olympic games i think it's kind of men's hockey peter forsberg nope you're i slipkoski
pavel beret nope peter stassny nope it's i i think if you're comparing nhl to non-nhl i think
it's kind of lame because this is probably somebody that accumulated all these points
before the NHL got into the Olympics.
Wait, are you?
NHL player.
Are you doing single Olympics?
Yeah, but did he score on NHL teams?
All time.
All accumulated points.
It's going to be something dumb
like Mason McTavish
who played on Team Canada in 2022.
No.
Wait, wait.
So career Olympics.
Career Olympics, men's hockey.
Oh.
Points leader.
You have it?
No.
I think it might be Taimou Salah.
Taimou Salah.
Yeah.
Yeah, but he scored a bunch of those
against non-NHLers.
i am only interested in david i'm only what he scored some of his goals you know i'm talking
about i want when the nhlers were there everything else i think it's quite funny that the man we just
spent 10 minutes talking about his tweets is the all-time points leader at the nhl in men's hockey
that's crazy how how many points does he have 43 oh wow that's a lot in 37 games how many goals
24 goals no that wasn't my question how many golds oh golds i don't know i don't know actually
probably not probably i sweet um the canadian record doesn't count uh in 1898 harry watson
had 37 points in five games harry you're watson what is that that doesn't that doesn't count
Let's not write that one down on frigging wooden skates.
Let's not write that one down anymore.
What are we doing?
I think that was hockey pre-boards.
Here's the pre-boards.
I don't think there was boards in the 1800s.
Every game took frigging six hours.
Let's scratch Harry Watson off this list.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Well-known Herbert Drury from 1895 with 28 points.
Look at how much he stands.
Both of them stand out.
All right, Jesse.
can you have it so that nothing before the death of arthur morgan is is on there like that's
say mussolini he's actually number one and he is number one thankfully he passed harry watson
eric kuhnhockel father of tom kuhnhockel wally halder also um maybe maybe an asterisk on wally
holders george mara seven points in eight games in 1925 george mara has 26 points in eight games
in 1921 they gotta have a cutoff for this list this is what i mean man this is why you can only
do the nhl guys playing nhl players i'm willing to give tamo number one george mara was in his
20s when lou lamorella was born and like you had the reason you have harlem off fetus off malts have
of uh mark makarov in there that high is because they were playing fucking college kids and they
were training 11 and a half months a year in the ussr for anybody listening adam listed off all of
the ussr names that are on this list four five and six from the 1940s if you've seen the red army
documentary they were born in the 40s they were good oh sorry yes born in the yeah like what the
fuck are we talking about here yeah oh sorry i've been giving out when they were born years not the
olympics my bad so lani wasn't playing in the olympics in seven yeah adam adam first off sorry
i've been wrong the whole time that's the guy in ninth that's his name yeah what olympics were
these at then what harry watson olympics would that have been we had 37 points in five you brought
this to the show based on what is this based on bs jesse what is this shit you brought to the show
guess he didn't do his research so best on best harry watson 137 years old harry watson is that's
like two decades prior to the forward pass well he didn't play that it would be a decade because
he's probably played in the 20s here he was born yeah here's me still it was the 1924 olympics
there you go the what yeah they won in france in charmony yes he has a gold medal which at the
time was the capital so can mcdavid paris was past harry watson's record that he set the 1924
olympics of 37 points in five games he was born in newfoundland and labrador yeah and he played
for team canada but newfoundland and labrador did not become a province until the 50s 1949 or 49
oh wow look at that so he was technically a citizen of the british empire ah see he decided
to defect canada cheating yet again there they are not even from canada first it's curling
second it's hot oh my god that's a good history corner on harry watson harry what the how could
you betray the rock like this we're a country of cheating bastards by the way that great britain
did win a gold medal in ice hockey they sure did uh and i think in the 50s or 40 was it because
it was a bunch of canadians probably was no i would imagine it would have been tony hand
no no although although he was a professional so he couldn't play back then sorry not everyone who
listens to the show knows who tony hand is so let's not fucking do this oh my god um hey we
should get t-shirts i think ask me about tony hand i think um i think what we saw today for
nathan mckinnon was his moment his first moment yes because you have obviously crosby's got the
golden goal okay and we haven't had a lot of olympic moments since then sochi the canadian
team was just really strong yeah and they oh you mean that was the most boring gold medal game i've
ever watched remember you came over to my house we watched it it was fucking two nothing and they
just i couldn't even tell you the score it was two nothing and they score early and then and
mike badcock's like okay i'm playing defense and then they didn't allow anything and i don't even
know who against sweden no idea no because because against usa that was two nothing i don't fucking
know it was adam doesn't even know it doesn't matter all i remember is that it was like wow
this game's kind of sucked and they won uh and right before the game backstrom couldn't play
remember that oh that's right he took like suit of head okay well there you go it's sweetened then
um so now you've only had the world championship or world cup or whatever they call it in 2016
which world cup canada steamrolled because teams some of europe made it to the finals if you
remember it was a two-game best of series some of europe gave him a scare and then and then we had
four nations and then this so crosby's had his mcdavid has had his has now his overtime in the
four nations and obviously the performance he's putting on in this tournament but like that one
singular moment you knew nathan mckinnon was going to come and get it eventually my question is
versus the states can he make it too because i ride for this guy i freaking love him he is a dog
out there and he looked like himself today looked like the guy that you're like oh there he is what
i am looking forward to is none of this starting wilson with mcdavid stuff we're done there we're
done there and it's nothing against wilson put wilson out there with those other animals and
bennett who picked up his socks after an abysmal first period and marshand who i thought was great
all night long yep great all night long pennant is perfectly capable of being a second line center
and then you got
the third line is fascinating i think suzuki should probably play center all game yeah he's
been great but what i'm thinking is if crosby play i'm going forward with the assumption he's playing
Sure. That's fair. Either Reinhardt or Jarvis comes out. I'm actually assuming Jarvis. You have Suzuki play 50 to 75% of his shifts at the center of Marner and Stone. You have Crosby do the rest as your 13th forward because I just don't think he can give you much.
and then when crosby is out there with stone and marner are you doing a preview are you doing a
preview or are we talking about mckinnon's moment you're doing a preview the power play listen i
went down that pathway too yeah jesse had to call me on it yeah you don't have to do all the lines
for the game that we're not talking about right when they got that power play i don't know about
you guys but it felt like the game was over to me which power play the one that ended the game
The one team was so happy about.
Oh my God.
Did that,
did it feel like it was,
I felt like it felt inevitable that they were going to score.
And I was like,
oh,
we don't have OT.
I'm,
I'm leaf and I,
I got leaf brain.
How are you on the stream?
I didn't let this out.
I,
I wanted overtime.
Like I wanted to be shot in the frigging head by Mitch Marner,
by mitch marner and then told i deserved it yes because you ran him out of town because i ran him
out of town yeah that's how badly you didn't want that's how badly i didn't want it no i i uh i
wanted nothing to do with it if steve ever wants jesse right to move out of town we're on notice
well he can do it to anybody he could
that the yeah you gotta anyway sorry no i was looking at the camera
you gotta speak for the listeners no i was trying to be intimidated that's what my face says um
canada listen they were down to nothing from the moment finland went
up to nothing canada kicked them up and down the ice kicked the shit out of them that's why i said
I think the Czechia I think Czechia was actually a better challenge over the course of 60 minutes
they were not able to unpark the bus and I don't mean this disrespectfully but I almost wonder if
Canada struggles out of the gate have more to do with Canada than Finland coming out of the gate
strong there might be a motivation thing where it's like okay turn it on use your superpowers
up and down the lineup because i want to give credit to brad marchand who had his best game
of the tournament like that's why he's on the roster he had that one play where he kind of took
on the fins one on like two run that little play and he got a few of them he fought the puck to
the net and he got a shot off there he really with his feet and then he was uh right out front
on the game tying goal right he was more than out in front he was on top of sarah on the on the
on the theodore shot like he he was right there and it's doing the screen and getting on top of
and making that happen and like there's nothing on the score sheet for him like it's a zero right
it's the plus that's all he gets is the plus minus but he was really effective um i think
they've unlocked something him there with wilson um there i think they should run that line just
as cooper was and like you're talking about shortening the bench like i think those are
the guys you're you're using in the gold medal game that should be the second line over the
boards i think i agree you you throw mcdavid celebrini are we previewing this game again
you throw mcdavid celebrini mckinnon out there yeah and then you have the second line
come over the boards and try to commit crimes yeah trade ice skating at nathan phillips square

So Adam, you streamed the USA game.
I did.
How was that?
I mean, kind of went as you...
like if you simmed that a hundred times on ea sports nhl it would have gone that way a hundred
times at a hundred times and you know uh canada had a tougher matchup in the in the second round
and it was earned and by slovakia usa had a tougher matchup in the first round in the quarters
right oh yeah big time and so you know i mean although czechy is no fucking joke either
the americans have had by any standard of a top team the easiest tournament you could possibly
have they have they you look at who was in group c and if you're a states fan you have to admit this
now you got to get it done like slovakia surprised finland in game one and it allowed them to win
the division and you have to get it done the americans didn't let that happen what i am seeing
and what i saw with the americans is they were like you know what we want them to give up mid
second period and they fucking got it yeah they were like yeah and and it's it's they baited
slovakia into taking stupid penalties farivari had a couple of assists if you're just stat watching
that's great his penalties were devastating to the slovakian cause no question and for a team
with seven nhlers seven nhlers you can't have one of them in the box you can't you can't and so
um the i didn't have a problem with the first period really for the slowbacks i didn't have
a problem with it in the second period it's just one team is way better and we'll talk about why
they're better when we do the preview with canada the united states that we've already sort of have
done is it the full roster of nhl stars it's not just that it's strategy too yeah right and i i
yes yes uh but you know there's there's so much about the american strategy that it's like
we're gonna fucking roll you every time every time and with the slovakians you know it was a
nice cinderella run that they've been on it's not over there's still my metal yeah yeah and and and
even if they don't i was saying on the stream like you know alan tweeted about this you know
and we talked about in the last episode uh miroslav shatan what he's doing with the slovakian
program incredible he's incredible the fact that they are here and the swedes are not and the swiss
are not and the germans are not checks latvians checks they're all not here it's slovakia really
okay never before the tournament would i have called this no no no but they are the defending
bronze medal champions in a tournament that did not have nhlers so i think it's it's like it's a
really big testament to their program where it's like without nhlers we won the bronze medal and
then now with nhl players we are back in that bronze medal game like they've been able to
maintain that even though the rest of the field has injected now um their talent that they should
have had at the last olympics into this tournament and they're still at the same level so it's really
impressive for slovakia i think they should be really proud of what they've accomplished like
obviously that game was a little uglier by the end but they have something special there with
um what they got going they can do it again yeah and i like i would give them a real good shot
against the fins there especially if halavi is it on his game and his the defense in front of
him gives them a chance which i don't think they did the best job of no uh this game and you can't
do that when you're in the box yeah you can't do that i think the bronze medal game is the hardest
to predict just because you it's the second half of a back-to-back uh well second half of it sorry
that's just muscle memory at this point but it is back to back i don't know if you can call it
the second half it is the second half i guess yeah yeah yeah no day two of the back to back
you're just tired you said it right yeah my bad it's the second half of the back this is my no
travel six piece of content today no travel travel um uh uh but the emotional tax
no one's happy to be playing in this game i think slovakia will be like 10 times more energetic
than finland i think like the chance at a medal for them yeah they're gonna die for it the kind
of attitude a coach would hate is the kind of attitude that will actually help you win a medal
tomorrow which is honestly i didn't expect to win yesterday i wish we did but we didn't
so let's freaking try to win today yeah that's why you pull your goalie with when you're up
four or down four nothing with so much of the game to go like if we're ranking coming in this
tournament who's most likely the medal what is slovakia at like six man i wouldn't put them that
high i got checky above them finland sweden i would have put germany probably germany because
Was it just the dry side of fact?
Yeah, Germany, Slovakia and Paterka and cider and Grubauer.
Like Germany, Slovakia, Denmark.
Like on paper, I would have had roughly the same.
Germany's maybe a little bit.
They probably get the edge there.
And then right there in that end kind of category after those teams is where Slovakia.
They have seven guys.
And look at though.
This is awesome.
This is a good story.
Yeah.
Germany doesn't have a ton of guys, but it's like dry sidles, Stutzla, cider.
Yeah.
holy shit like guys that can score goals guys that can just win the game on their own the rest
of you just manage it yeah manage the clock let the let the big boys score germany didn't do
enough yeah and and then it's like here's like the sixth best hab who just becomes god when he
puts on his country's jersey yeah yeah i think i think there's gonna be a lot of interest and a
lot of fun in that game i hope people watch it because i think it will be a very good hockey
game the Finns I'm I'm you know I think the Finns are so I mean there's 24 Finnish NHLers on that
team right now there would have been 25 at Barkov in there and I wonder how that changes today's
game if Barkov's playing who was the one non-NHL was it Kiviranta oh I don't I don't even know I
don't know if he's still in the league or what but he's not okay well then it's Kiviranta I don't
think he but he's a former NHLer exactly right like to me I don't to me that's 25 yeah it's
almost like yeah thomas tatar is not an nhler but he is you know an nhler um belmar there's a
there is a um like the fins have got a little bit of pride on the line here right you you beat um
you beat sweden did they beat sweden yeah they beat sweden the fins yes and you beat them in a
game that you needed to win and you were desperate okay almost beat canada almost be
close okay real close um you've got to because if like you got to think about it like canada
the united states you don't meddle against the slovaks the swedes are going to give you so much
shit hey look at you you're you're right where we are oh yeah oh you're so much better you win a
medal you got a medal right right now you've meddled in two straight olympics i don't know
what they did in 2018 i don't think i know they got gold last time so i think it was i think it
was russia germany canada got bronze i think in 2018 yeah yeah so i don't know we've meddled in
two straight that's not bad there's a there's a lot of pride on the line here for finland and
they're a hockey power oh big time you can't let the upstart unseat you you can't the upstart who
kicked your ass yeah they didn't just beat them they kicked your ass that's gonna be a cool that's
a cool storyline and you've got uc soros who's had an up and down year with an up and down team
better of late i wonder if he plays i think he plays i think he does but i think who's the other
option he doesn't is it lankan oh you don't play you don't play like in it for finland yeah uh
corpus ala ah thank you i mean i think you play sarah scoper sol is a good option i guess but i
got hurt but like yeah um but there's a like you've got the established nhl goalie versus a
guy who's fourth in the minnesota wild system no who is probably as jesse magic gonna get traded
for parts at the deadline i'm a big club i fan oh me too you may he turned me into a fan what i'm
trying to figure out i was trying to figure that in the stream for a lot of i and i know this is a
bit of a side quest but like how does so he's played really great how does an nhl scout grade
that i what do they look at that do they look at that and they go numbers are dreadful he got hot
yeah dreadful with the iowa wild they were bad in the czech league they weren't very good iowa
wild are bad so maybe he gets this and we went through it last episode i'm sorry if anybody
listened i'm repeating myself but like his international performances are the only reason
he has a job with the wild right you know he did well at the world championships they saw that and
they gave him the job okay and then so now he's doing it again internationally so i think people
are relying on this and they believe in this tournament and they believe what he does with a
good team in front of him because the wild are last in the ahl so you can't only take so much
from that so i think there's something there okay such good scout bait is that what you're
calling that's i was just i was like wait what like how to like just the kind of player who
makes a scout go i don't know i think i'm the smartest guy in the room today everyone thinks
you're bad i'm the only one who knows you're good but it's not gonna cost you anything this is a guy
who's gonna be down in your system and if he starts playing well it's you're the scout and
you found the magic beans and that's your job as a scout oh yeah if bill garan trades him and gets
anything for him that's like a herculean victory you you signed a guy out of europe as a free agent
and traded him as like how many teams could trade their fourth goalie and get anything for them
right now zero zero how many fourth goalies could you name yo he feels like a sense goalie doesn't
he oh shit like i know wallstead's been the name that's sort of been bandied around but if you're
the sins you already have lenis you're about you're betting on him bouncing back you've also
got seven more years or six more years of that deal you're gonna bring in wallstead so the
contract situation he's an rfa at the end of this year his contract's up and then he's the ufa in
28 29 so the minnesota wild have years of control five times five wow i assume they bring them back
cal peterson's with the friggin wild yeah al peterson cal peterson wow okay sorry so i'm
less than five now this performance has got to be enough for guaven to be like okay we'll
tender you whatever rfa deal i'll bring you back for 875 hey he should hold out or maybe somebody
else around the league wants him for magic beans he's definitely worth coming he's also 24 so he
better make it happen soon are you taking a seventh yes or you keep it oh no no no i'd rather
keep him for a seventh oh man wow keep okay oh you guys are at the table i'm i'm the ottawa
senators i say i'll give you a trade you a seventh for have i or you get to keep him what are you
uh do you know how unlikely a seventh round pick is to play for you let alone have any kind of
impact you know who you would draft with like a seventh round pick probably sam plow it's true
if you're lucky yeah i could see a fifth what that is conditional on he plays
now you're going too far i can see if are you taking the seventh
no i don't think i would i think steve's right yeah who has more reason get rid of them who has
more reason to trade for a slovakian goalie than anyone you're forgetting alan alan you're
barking up the right tree jesse the montreal canadians oh hey we need another halak spring
hey good point but it's halavi hey just get my spring get a little bit of white paint
and fix up that stop sign you've been keeping in the garage.
It's time for Hlavai Spring.
There's something there.
I like it.
Okay, last piece of stuff from Finland and Slovakia.
You guys are wondering about the player who is not an NHLer on the roster.
It's an ex-Leaf.
Can you name him?
On the fence?
Mm-hmm.
What?
Ex-Leaf.
Not a goalie.
No.
No.
Defenseman.
kokanen he plays for the s z sc lions oh zurich that's where math is yeah it's like
taupe i'm trying to think of former like topi nyamala played for the leafs and blue jackets
oh who's this miko miko letnan oh he's the one non-nhler on the finnish roster okay so
So Kivarant is in the NHL then?
I guess so.
I was really hoping Mikko Lettinen would work out for the Leafs
because they needed him too.
I was hoping he would work out for the Leafs.
Period.
Yep.
Here's the Finnish roster here.
You can bring that up.
And then you'll see he's the one that doesn't have an NHL team.
And that's Mikko Lettinen there.
The lion.
So there you go.
Zurich.
Good for him.
Yep.
Good for him.
100%.
That means he's the best of non-Finnish players.
and again probably wouldn't be there if it wasn't for barkoff best of non-nhl players yeah they're
all finished is that i did i say finished players yeah you said he's the best of finished players
but he is i don't think actually he is the finished kail mccartney he's he's the one guy
my name's doug don't tell anyone don't tell anyone i can't believe they bought a standout
performance for me from the u.s on that side i think the way the broadcast ended i don't think
they're wrong to do it it was the jack hughes coming out party oh he was good it was the he
didn't get a chance to do everything he wanted to at four nations because he was clearly injured
only had that one assist and this game he looks like the old jack hughes and he's wiring a shot
from almost at the blue line and just sniping one by uh like is he cleared to play their devils or
what i think jack hughes might be back and that's an x factor that they didn't have at four nations
and the other side of it is his brother who's also an x factor they didn't have four nations
and Quinn Hughes looks amazing too.
And the Hughes brothers had a fantastic game.
I think it starts with Jack
and then secondary is Hughes, Quinn.
But yeah, it's deadly what they got going on.
Two sets of brothers on the Olympics is bullshit.
Shouldn't be allowed.
You know what?
I'm going to pull a Tame Usulani style rant
if they win.
This shouldn't be allowed.
Jesse's dressed like a fab VIP
because that's what he is.
I have my fabletics hoodie on.
It's a staple.
It's a basic.
They do a great job with these hoodies.
they're very comfy cozy uh i like them it's a lot it's a nice heather gray yeah yeah they're
the softness like steve's saying like it's unmatched uh listen fabletics isn't just an
online brand either this is the best part there's 100 retail stores and jesse's a vip
and so are steve and i it gets you 80 off i'm not everything you might run into jamar chase at one
of them but you could there is the jamar chase drop in stores now and also online and it's all
80 off all you need to do is become a vip and that's our exclusive offer 80 off everything
in store or online when you sign up to be a vip just head to fabletics.com slash sdp take a quick
style quiz and be sure to select sdp when prompted to unlock your 80 off that's fabletics.com slash
sdp uh so when canada faces the united states there is one strategy that i want you to be fully
aware of here we go you're ready first off the americans are dynamite in the face-off dot
specifically eichel matthews monsters right they're terror terrorists with it mckinnon did
figure it out as the game went on thank god yeah he's also not known as the best face-off no
wasn't it like they lost 10 or 15 face-offs it was bad at one point it was it was ugly you need
crosby you need crosby um here's what the americans will do okay game the offensive zone
so canada's pinned throw it back to quinn because quinn will be on the ice because he's on the ice
half the game and he's not there you know who is zach warinski yeah uh so either of those two guys
no forward can catch them so you inevitably just kind of stand there martin marincin and
just sweeping with your stick going i hope i interrupted passing lane yep and what those
guys are going to do is they're going to move side to side cycle back and forth sometimes it's
Hughes and Wierenski together and all three American forwards will go to the net and that's
line one that's what the Kachuks and Eichel do line two you'll see Boldy and Gensel go outside
and one will come high as sort of like a bumper but without the physicality and Matthews will
sneak to the side of the net and it's one of those find them across the net EA sports NHL 2012 goals
just slap it in that is they're gonna have to defend both of those lines extremely different
and the americans have feasted on that in the tournament the only time that i've seen them do
anything other than that is brady kachuk's freaking breakaway today he had two of them
and he scored on the second one and jack hughes a shot and i guess quinn hughes when he cycled
back but again when when in the swedish overtime game pull it back to quinn quinn goes cycle cycle
cycle guys go to the net and he shoots is there a third line jack hughes dylan larkin tage thompson
yes and tage had a dynamite goal page leaving with an injury that yeah they think he's they
think he'll play he took a puck off the skate so it was precautionary he was walking around
basically without shoes on yeah it was weird seeing him with his flip-flops and holding his
stick uh just walking he didn't have to bring the stick with him yeah i was like why does he have
the stick but it's better and listen better brock nelson did have two goals in the first game he is
one of the nhl's hottest scorers before this like this is a good freaking team larkin no i didn't
score in the round robin has opened the scoring in the last two games i need to side quest for a
second i'll go you never just sit in the living room with a hockey stick oh you're side quest
stage no it's you you never just yeah you never just have a hockey stick in your house yes yes
it feels good all over yeah it feels good it does i'm just saying you just got to make sure you
don't hit the kids by accident and it's fine you just have a hockey stick usually the kids hit you
you have it to deke them out right you have to embarrass them absolutely yes break ankles well
make sure that you're the dominant force until you physically no longer can be daddy's home uh
but yeah i mean this is a this is a fucking dangerous team and and i think where canada
two needs to watch out i don't know what your thoughts are on conor hellebuck's puck play
but one thing that i saw the fins do against canada that i think the americans started to
do against the slovaks today is uh lavai is a very good passer and a very good stopper he found
a guy i think it was slavkovsky from one his end slavkovsky's on the american blue line and he
found him tape to tape binnington is a great puck handler as well except for when he's not he makes
me nervous yeah halibut i think the best strategy that canada can employ to take the american motion
out of the defense is ring it around the boards on the glass and four checks so if you're coming
in on the right side push hard on the left because what it's going to force the americans to do is
either let it ring around on the glass and then fall at your feet and your
forwards on top of the defenseman or the defenseman has to slam their body
against the boards,
stop the puck and they have no momentum either way.
You kind of,
you got to take the skating of Hughes and Rwinski out of this.
Have the,
have the Americans given up many breakaways?
Uh,
not that I can really remember.
No,
because there's been a couple,
but like,
you know,
cause there is,
but no,
not like,
it's not like an endemic problem.
they skate extremely well it's just the way you describe the way the top line comes in i'm like
if you can just hound your own blue line like the high slot cleverly there's an opportunity
for breakaways sure and that's but then you got to outrace hughes and warinski exactly this this
is where so obviously celebrini mcdavid mckinnon we know what they're all capable of this is where
a player like nick suzuki a player like mitch marner i think becomes really really important
horvat scored a breakaway goal for camp why do you say that they got speed and they have defensive
instinct uh well we know suzuki can uh was it him who picked it off against galchenyuk yep
son of a gun okay i like you right he was five years younger than yeah and marner uh
geez we've seen him do it a hundred times pick off the pass in the high slot and take it for a
little walk so if you can get the you don't even need to succeed necessarily if you can just get
the states not feeling great about their plan that's a good way to start the game austin matthews
has been he didn't score today but he had about five scoring opportunities he was all over it and
he just couldn't bury one he's despite the american pressure i we even got comments today from people
going like like even on my video going this guy sucks where is he blah blah i'm like he's still
team leader in goals and pretty great um he's a he's a force out there he's an absolute force i
those first two lines for the americans are going to be john cooper's entire night tonight yeah and
the scariest thing is that even if he doesn't get his scoring going and he keeps getting robbed
they have so much depth that their scoring can come from other places yeah like tage tage looks
really good when he's out there when he was out there in the semifinals game and i already
mentioned jack hughes uh he is his shot looks back he doesn't look hampered by any knife injury
and then that first line like eichel's gonna work through the neutral zone faster than anybody else
in the game and the kachuks are gonna bang home some goals even brady had a breakaway today two
breakaways there for brady so like if matthews isn't scoring you don't need him to score yeah
there's so much scoring depth it's scary it's uh so fast and then the back end like quinn hughes
will score a goal whenever he wants i think the quicker this game is played the more it benefits
the americans the slower it's played the more it benefits can how do you beat hellebuck other than
hey it's a big game and he might be a shaky like we got to do better than that what are his
weaknesses really right uh when he's at his when you have shook him how does he get scored on
oh boy, I don't have the chart in front of me,
but most goalies, you're better off beating them high.
He is a goalie that his pads,
I know they're, I mean, obviously they're regulation,
but like they look huge, right?
He looks big and blocky in his net.
And when he's dialed, he's extremely difficult to beat low.
I don't think you're getting anything cheeky past them.
I think you just need a perfectly placed shot.
Probably a pretty easy goalie to play in front of.
One thing I do want to say, too.
Take away his eyes also.
The only thing that Sweden was able to get past him
was a bullet from Zbigniew.
A perfectly placed shot.
The other thing that I saw with the Americans
is that there were rebounds.
They're very good at clearing them.
But he does give them up.
Sure.
So you got to employ your own guys
who are like hammerhead sharks out there just bash get to that net if you can get i can see
tom wilson getting a couple of goals in this game honestly i could see it's not crazy right you're
not crazy that's i think if you can get them on if you can keep the shots low and getting kicking
them kicking them out that's where i think you're gonna catch them can i throw money down on the
table right now brad marshan will score yeah yeah i i would agree with that marshan a little bit
now why do you guys say that i think the marshan wilson line where whoever they're playing with
if it's bennett down the middle is bennett wilson marshan that's gonna be the most important line
for this team because they're gonna not make it easy on the americans and trying to trying to
clear that front of the net trying to work the puck up the ice they're gonna be the guys who
going to do all of the hard work to then allow celebrini and mcdavid and mckinnon to do their
thing when they're on the ice and they're going to muck it up and if any goal is going to be scored
on hellebuck it's going to be because brad marchand's out in front of the net he's blocking
things he's getting a rebound same with tom wilson and having those guys on that line that's where i
can see canada really winning the battle i was trying to look it up um the con smith ballot
i know obviously sam bennett won i think marshan came very close because sam bennett was their
playoff mvp i thought brad marshan was probably florida's uh stan like a final mvp he was
friggin incredible that's why i picked him well it's gonna be that so that's the interesting part
for canada to get more lines going than just celebrini mcdavid you you talked about steve
you said you like the suzuki stone marner line but i think they play obviously your speed on
that line but there is a defensive component to that line how do you how do you build if that's
canada's second line let's say they are what do you build out on the second two lines guys like
what do you do because i don't think jarvis stays in the lineup i don't think he plays i think
crosby's in do you and i and i have a question for you that this is the additional question
do you employ the sweet strategy of Crosby's hurt yes but Brett was not hurt Crosby's hurt
we need to push in the third period let's play him there in the middle I can see Crosby being
your 13th forward and and have him have him play 10 minutes but you have 10 minutes of the third
you have your four lines you have Crosby just sitting there I don't think we probably don't
hold them back to the third you don't want his legs to be kind of cold maybe get out of the game
a little earlier yes we play him sporadically but face off if he's a defensive zone face offs
you're not comfortable with if he's a nine minute a game guy but he's your 13th forward and you get
him out there when you need to or even less like six minutes who knows but i can see them just
having crosby there for as the unlock for in case of emergency kind of thing ozone starts power play
limit his time in the second period to avoid the long change stuff like that okay all right i don't
know what else you guys want to talk about with this preview other than i i edged people for an
hour and we're getting here and we're already wrapped on the preview i'm sorry we got a hit
out of it didn't we sorry um okay all right uh i think it's a bad stylistic matchup for canada
the back end i'd love to hear your guys's thoughts on that because i think the way it's kind of
played out just the offensive abilities that are coming from the americans i think are so much
stronger but i i don't doubt that sanheim and pareko and taves and mccarr can shut things down
i don't think you're going to get the same offensive output because it's kind of like
mccarr back there and a bunch of guys who are going to play a great defense harley's pretty
mobile oh harley was great sorry for not mentioning harley he's been one of my favorite players for
canada this entire tournament yeah i thought he's excelled at his role so if you're getting
offense out of harley and mccarr but it's not the same as what usa is getting out of quinn hughes
and warrenski and favor and mcavoy like they really seem like threats from back there mcavoy
is a tough customer man he threw some hits today he's a tough customer so slaven there are guys
you can beat in board battles and that's where i think the wilson bennett marsh and line should
they stay together that's where i think they're going to be really important really really
important because you know i'm thinking about like who are the states going to target i think
they're gonna just go ape shit on celebrini he's 19 that's the easy target yeah you gotta keep
you gotta keep the kachuks away from him yeah um but that's that's what they're gonna try yeah
right um you can beat the shit out of them too a little dump and chase with bennett marsh and
wilson coming make tint quinn hughes turn his back a little bit and i mean they're gonna both
sides are gonna do it said the name that's the name what is that kid 175 pounds if you can catch
him if you can that's the problem but if you do could be a long night yeah yeah i mean that's
oh man that that is uh oh i got two questions go jess go if canada loses what went wrong
and then on the other side if america loses what went wrong
hmm if canada loses i think we're having a somewhat similar conversation to the women
uh where we're talking about we don't play with enough speed we didn't bring enough speed and
with the men it'll be more we didn't bring enough skill with the men it's we had skill to bring and
we left it at home i yeah right it's gonna be about if listen if canada wins it's gonna be
we brought the exact right roster and if uh well you can't argue with that we didn't if they win
i i went i went over it in the and was it on the stream or on the video today that when canada left
stamkos at home in 2010 i don't think people realize how objectively incorrect they were
stamkos had 98 points and 51 goals that year and they left them at home what what now he was a
sophomore he didn't hit those numbers until the end of the season obviously but he was having an
unbelievable season leading into those olympics nike made a commercial for if stamkos made the
team i saw it never saw the light of day still the best commercial i've ever seen never seen
the light of day holy shit so good uh no one talks about it no one cares it's a funny thing
to bring up right now that's why i didn't ask if they win what went right because then everything
went right right yeah you won it's gotta it's gotta answers itself team usa loses i think it's
that conversation times a billion turbo speed really oh my god they left jason robertson at
home and in Montreal it'll be haha but we had we also cold cough cold coffee yeah like canada has
like oh well you should have brought this guy or you should i understand but you should have
jason robertson is unjustifiable completely unjustified if they lose if they lose if they
lose if they all they win if they win i don't know this man's name no it's so who's jason
roberts it's so funny too that you say that because when we started when i started streaming
the usa games uh the first period of the first game wasn't very good for the us and everybody's
like oh we fucking suck yeah we're horrible now they're like we're the fucking greatest team
that's ever ever skated because they've just again like i said rolled over everybody crushed
if they win they're gonna be like see we didn't need jacob robinson jacob robertson jeff robertson
you sound like lane hudson's dad yes um i think quaybertson uh i i think for canada if if
if i have a criticism yeah uh and they've been great if i have criticism it's it's um some of
the defense they brought it do you need pareko and sanheim and drew dowdy now because he played
under nine minutes dowdy is a legend and he's still very good nhl defender but i don't know
if he's one of the top seven i don't know if pareko is either and i understand that they play
roles and you probably ask me adam who would you bring instead well maybe you bring one of them
one or maybe you bring two of them pareko dowdy sanheim you pick your you pick whichever one you
want yeah whichever two you want the guy i miss in this lineup is morrissey who's hurt
yeah and i feel like that's just bad luck that's bad luck and you can't have an injury replacement
so I think that's kind of messed things up um but I still would have taken one of those guys out
and put in like let's let's do you not why do you not bring a Matt Schaefer
why do you not bring a Matt Schaefer I know he's a rookie seeing what Celebrini is doing he has
been my favorite player at this tournament I think he's been the best player at times for
team Canada which is a crazy thing to say I would have loved to see what Matthew Schaefer could have
done here it'd be an interesting idea to have him on this roster just for a hey here's a young guy
who like celebrini doesn't really seem afraid or understand what's on the line yeah and he's
playing so fearless i wonder if schaefer would have that same attitude it's it's just such a
shame because it's like all right we're not going to bring him and we're only going to regret it
if josh morrissey gets shit yeah it's on yeah the other guy that's obvious and everybody in
edmonton is going yelling at their car right now if they're listening again if we're looking for
puck moving and we're looking for a veteran defenseman who's been to high leverage games
with matthew matthew schaefer has in junior but not in the nhl evan bouchard has played 13 stanley
cup final games in the last two years he's a top 25 all-time stanley cup playoff score amongst
defensemen and in the regular season i will 100 there's a reason evan bouchard corner exists yes
but i watched the oilers last year a lot if doug armstrong was his gm i think he'd be here and i
watched the oilers a lot the previous year remember because i did vancouver and then i did edmonton
and i did edmonton last year i am telling you evan bouchard when he tries on defense can do it
and does it in high leverage games he really is the orange cassidy of friggin nhlers orange
cassidy is you wouldn't know this but justin fisher knows this is a great never heard of it
he is a wrestler in aew whose whole bit is he doesn't try that's a good bit but on pay-per-views
he turns it on and kicks your ass okay i like that that's funny like he he has this bit where
he puts on sunglasses and puts his hands in his pockets and wrestles with his hands in his pockets
doing like flips and shit so stupid you know i but like yeah no playoff evan bouchard is
pay-per-view orange cassidy yeah yeah okay this is a really good reference for like 50 people
okay but you know you got those 50 people i got important got them in my pocket they're gonna
freaking comment on this video too oh yeah they people love a niche reference they love it on
this show hell yeah so and and you know i again i get people that are like yeah but he sucks on
defense i'm like yeah but in the playoffs he doesn't uh so yeah like i i i had no issues
with him being left off the team admittedly having seen the team and i had questions about
pareko already because things were not going well in in uh st louis and when the leafs kicked their
ass i was like wow pareko but he has the history of being colton pareko and so does drew dowdy
and so i you know i get why they made the decision but if we're nitpicking and being a pain in the
ass that would be my that would be my thing dowdy's dowdy's the easy pick dowdy's the one
legacy pick that feels like uh old time 98 team you know yeah oh one of these things is not like
the other yeah uh now at forward at forward who would be true daddy is 14 points if you didn't
bring bennett and jarvis which felt felt to me like because bennett didn't really have a good
start to the season until like really january he wasn't great jarvis was left off the team as well
then there's two injuries obviously sorelli and um and braden point which you're missing those guys
there's those are braden point would be awesome really useful in this tournament really use
sorelli went into face off oh yeah sorelli too both of them like they they do miss those guys
but if those guys can't come and you're going well i'm because i feel like bennett and jarvis
are great hockey players but i think you can make the argument that they didn't need more of that
I think Sam Bennett should be on this team.
You think Sam Bennett should be on this team?
Yeah, I think I would have picked Sam Bennett.
So if it's not Seth Jarvis for you,
do you go a Mark Scheifele?
Do you go a Conor Bedard?
This is, again, if they lose.
Because I think depth scoring has been...
I mean, they keep loading up the top line.
Which is nuts.
If I was in charge of this roster,
it would have been Zach Hyman ahead of Seth Jarvis.
I get that.
That's where I'm going.
And he's been one of the NHL's top scorers this year.
I look at these games and I say,
Zach Hyman mucking up a goal in front
would have been really helpful.
Also the vibes.
I love Zach Hyman.
Yeah, also the vibes.
He's just such a good guy.
He was leading.
He had the most goals since like December 1st
when we hit the break.
Like Zach Hyman can score goals.
His season's crazy.
Yeah.
And this team, they could use a couple extra goals.
The history there in the Stanley Cup final
and just the winning stuff,
you bring it up for Evan Bouchard,
he's on that team too he has it as well i think that'd be useful plus the chemistry with mcdavid
maybe you're able to spread out celebrini in that case maybe you don't even discover
the mc mc mc line because hyman's working so well and all of a sudden celebrini opens up something
else and maybe he's playing with mckinnon on the second line yeah and then the second line
super effective like i think zach hyman would have presented different options that says jarvis
doesn't bring i'm not saying chef jarvis is a bad player but no i think uh zach hyman would
have been really useful and he has also played in the stanley cup finals yeah and like sam bannon i
think this should be on the scene it's it's tricky because like i'm looking at the states and i'm
like if they lose it'll be in part because they're the slower team and i'm like i don't know how
hyman fixes that my answer might be bedard you think bedard yeah it might be bedard just
gives you another option at center providing something you lack right yeah yeah i like a
high-end shot i love shifley and i think he's right there's nothing more he could have done
to get on this team if shifley had ever played defense in his life and i'm include playoffs on
that and i don't i'm not trying to take pot shots at the guy if you'd shown like jt miller efforts
uh in the playoffs jt miller can play defense in the playoffs he's also killing penalties for the
states right now he's jc miller is one of the best penalty killers we have of like this era
which is hilarious which is hilarious because when you watch him on the ice it looks like he
could want he wants to be somewhere else he's also surrounded by peers if shy for reason is in new
york is because their owner's nuts yeah right and the gm of the wilds like i was also a bit of a
dick when i played if you're on was 50 of that on defense though he'd be on the team yeah and i love
i love watching the guy plays a magician he's a crazy zone crazy offensive player i don't know
if he's versatile enough right like that's a lot of these guys have you're so elite at this level
and it's both teams are you gonna have him out there for the banging crap man he scores 50 goals
okay but what else yeah right oh and it's not 50 if it's 50 you'd be there no i know but like
reinhardt 40 goal guy oh yeah but also reinhardt even though he struggled is also the runner-up to
the selkie yes but he's been so here's where he needs to make his money he doesn't get paid to be
i think you pushed a button well because he played under seven minutes in this game
for a reason and it's in the highlight of his tournament so far is scoring a goal by accident
i think it was maybe a little by accident like i had just ripped him on the stream and i was like
why is this man on the top power play unit i don't understand and then obviously you scored on the
top power play unit and i'm like ah but then i didn't catch it in real time i was watching the
highlights back and mike johnson goes i don't know if he meant to do that yeah the blind back
yeah backside tip like i don't think you're intentional there he held the stick firm so
like maybe he knew it was going to be there but it was pretty impressive if he meant it it was
pretty impressive and obviously he's got crazy scoring and two-way ability this is a game where
canada is not necessarily going to be dictating the play and they're going to have to shut an
opponent down and i'm looking around the room and how about sam i think sam's gonna be pretty
important that's why like he's a he was a he was amazing in the playoffs for them last year
amazing he's been to three straight stanley confidant like it sucks for jarvis but like
if you're going resume for resume heading into this game what are we talking about i do like
his speed but like it's gotta be reinhardt has to be you need him desperately that's why
i'm looking at the the not necessarily smaller i'm looking at the speedier
more defensively minded forwards like a suzuki like a marner and like a reinhardt you think
marner is going to be an x factor yes he has to be or they lose yeah he he's yes and yes i can see
him i can see him having a big game i can too mitch is he's gonna be really and it's gonna be
Mitch is an important player
on every team he plays on.
And the team goes
as he does.
Of course he needs to be good.
He's great.
Oh. Yeah.
Great players need to be great.
Welcome to the gold medal game
of the freaking Olympics. Why did you want him on Toronto?
I broke him.
oh my god the computer is as frozen
steve literally why there's a greasy nose print if mitch marner is good enough to be in this gold
medal game for team canada and you think he's gonna have a really good game why didn't you
want him on the leafs jesse great question so there's a playlist on our youtube channel
it's every podcast from the last 600 days yeah um actually it's every podcast for the last
probably seven years yeah no more than 600 days that's like three years or whatever okay so
everything since like the everything since like game three against boston 2019
up until his last game as a Leaf.
That stuff.
That's amazing.
All that stuff.
His fit with the Leafs
has nothing to do with his fit on Team Canada.
I want him to play and win for Canada.
I hope people understand that.
I gotta be honest, Jesse.
I don't care.
That's the right attitude.
the ones who get it but you can't say you don't care and then start a 10 minute rant about those
people sure i can that's my job that means you can't no no the people who get it have been paying
attention yes yes and the people who don't weren't interested and that's okay we all got busy lives
that's if you're not interested i'm not interested it's also just an easy way to troll you yeah
the people online who want to troll you yep they go at you and you know what is this as long as
you click like and subscribe is this the fuck toronto gold medal game yeah oh i'll leave the
chucks on one side and then you got martyr potentially being a hero on the other fuck
toronto like i'll i'll join the chant what are we doing like i'll do whatever if you get a few beers
after they win except it's at eight in the morning i have a beer league game that night
13 hours later oh okay that's all right um okay i think that's it i think that's a good 30 minute
preview okay beautiful well listen seriously what we just did that was the goal yeah so now
we accomplished it high five gentlemen hey us we all right um again one more time steve sunday
morning me saturday afternoon uh we'll see you for the bronze of the gold medal games and thank
you to everybody that's tuned in for all of our streams jesse and steve and i we all really
appreciate it jesse you can hit that extra um anything any parting words from the from the two
of you. Final score. We know we're
all thinking Canada wins. What is
the final score of the game?
As is tradition,
