oh look at that it's all-star week baby whoa crazy we're here uh it is going to change the
schedule up a little bit so listen up we're doing a show today and tomorrow what and wednesday
no jesse did it right here here i would like a mulligan adam do it again we're doing a show on
monday what there you go tuesday what wednesday what and then we got our all-star panels uh on
friday what no no that's saturday and then you gotta fucking that third then friday is is is
agent provocateur it's chris johnston's show it's sdp uh all of the rec room and let me just throw
this at you so uh the tickets to the super bowl right now are eight thousand dollars that's the
cheapest ticket you can get american why go there where you can simply go to the rec room
friday and saturday for a fraction of the price and then so it's 52 000 or 8 000 right okay like
i told you now what about the all-star game itself what do you think uh hmm i'm gonna say
like for one ticket yeah you know what the prices are pretty reasonable um you don't need to dump
on other events i'm not dubbing on other events all i'm saying is that you know if you want to
spend three hundred dollars a ticket to go to all-star game which is what it costs three hundred
yeah that's for the nosebleeds for the bleeds yeah uh you will you can do that but you can
spend a fraction of that and come for ten dollars to our events and be in the area be a part of the
atmosphere and then go to the listen if you want to spend all that money on that on that stuff you
go you do yeah i think the important thing about that is that you could do both yeah like we're
Not during either of the events.
Oh, so you're going to the All-Star game?
Well, then come to our thing, too.
You have the money.
Get over here.
You're obviously rich.
Fillmore is a legendary strip club in Toronto.
They say, welcome to all NHL All-Star Week.
This is Adam Lascaris that tweeted this out.
Welcome to all the All-Stars this week.
Free lap dances for all 2024 NHL All-Stars ID required.
So you can't go in there looking like them and pretending.
they need to know it's you i it's a good sweet love when strip clubs do that i think it's the
funniest thing it is funny yeah i mean and ultimately a lot of people do end up there
like i remember nba all-star weekend uh i went to uh i think the brass rail just to see what was
going on and wild oh yeah it was pretty packed i well we saw one of our first episodes on this
show like first one or second one steve and i both talked about uh that we don't really like
strip clubs and i still to this day i've been to one in the last five years and i was like you know
this kind of sucks like i'm just not into it um but i on big weekends you're like well somebody
cool might be there i don't know i i do need to talk about what a loser i am like i'll just i'll
just repeat that one story real quick the i was at a bachelor party forced to go to a strip club
many guys understand this experience i'm sitting in the front row and this uh young lady is crawling
around the stage um offering her uh services and the guys who are very clearly regulars
um you know are like nah baby i'm cool whatever they know how to they know how to work the strip
club back and she looks at me and i go oh no thank you very nice i like that anyway um uh so
yeah we've got monday tuesday wednesday shows and again and jesse correct me if i'm wrong here all
the live content that we're doing at the event you'll be able to listen to and watch later on
yeah yeah so all three shows on friday will be shows that'll be released at some point over the
weekend probably on the sunday is it live no it's not live we're not good enough we're taping them
and they will be up on our youtube feed and then same with on audio and then the saturday is going
to be a little different because it's one big chunk we're going to see how we're going to parse
that out it'll probably come up as some sort of segmented episode on the uh sdp feed because it'll
be mainly us hanging around with the different guests we have on the all-star panel because
there's so much stuff there's a lot there's a lot to a lot happening do we uh do we have any
guests that are confirmed that we can announce uh well we can can we do the biggest one which
which which is who no no we can't do that one no no we can't do the biggest surprise
do you think we should i feel like that's why i brought it up we want to build that one or do
we want to surprise people with that one i feel like it might get people to attend you think so
i think we're trying to sell tickets all right yeah you ever heard of selling tickets you guys
take it then you guys take it we shouldn't take it no no it has to be you okay it has to be steve
you go steve um i have uh been to this lady's house to study for a geography exam um she's
my friend's mother
and Juno
Gemini. Gemini. Gemini award
winner, Marilyn Dennis.
Yeah. Let's go.
Marilyn Dennis.
This is the biggest guest in Steve
Dangle podcast. Yeah. Sorry.
Sorry, Down Goes Brown and Mark Lazarus.
Sorry, Eric Lindblom. Have we
announced that Down Goes Brown is also going to be there?
Down Goes Brown will be there. Sean McIndoe.
Yeah. Well, there you go. Mark Lazarus will
be there as well. I believe
James Myrtle is coming as well. If he isn't, then
he is now uh i don't know no okay oh there she is he's the only guy uh that's as tall as jesse
there you go look for that yeah oh my gosh that's a photo picture yeah that was on our way to see
the pittsburgh penguins and the toronto maple leafs in the playoffs oh you went to see the
leeson penguins in the playoffs i did i've never heard that story tell it i know that bum yager
got him we got him for one win uh should we get to the bet mgm big story gentlemen
because it's a big story yeah all right fire it up
so what happens when you sign with the team and they're not ready um you show up anyway because
they're paying you that's right that's right and you wear somebody else's equipment have you guys
seen this i have i have actually all right jesse you want to bring this up uh the edmonton oilers
were not quite prepared for cory perry's arrival uh he's using josh anderson's stick he's using
Dylan Holloway's gloves.
It's nice of Josh Anderson to give him a stick like that.
It's great.
And I am wondering if the Oilers do not have Amazon Prime.
What happened?
Why could they not get him his equipment on time?
See, this is actually...
He had a weak lead up, did he not?
This is actually...
I don't know if this is the Oilers screwing up.
The gloves, maybe.
I doubt Corey Perry tried on all his teammates' gloves
and then was just like, no, no, no.
These ones.
it has to be i want dylan holloway's but the stick um i believe it was joffrey loophole when
he was with the leafs famously used a ryan getzlaff stick um i think the whole time oh
yeah and it just said getzlaff yeah like he never got it like matthews has to get it like
poppy and kneelander gets willie styles and loophole the whole time he was here uh this is
how the the high rollers have changed in the city now they have like their custom nicknames
and loophole who was once the heartthrob of the team is just like no i'll use ryan's i'll just
use ryan's how many how many players went to the nhl using the the vaunted eiserman curve that we
remember from growing up that was by the way not eiserman's curve what so the eiserman curve if you
if you used it going growing up that was not actually the way he had his stick that was just
the stick that's right that's right and i wonder how many players grew up learning to play with
that that curve and then we're like wow man i gotta go to the show with this and they did
producer drew was right the red wings can't be trusted can't be jesse what do you have there
what are you looking at uh well i was just bringing this up for you guys because this isn't
like new oh cory perry's been using josh anderson stick for years now it goes back to his playing
time in montreal back in 2021 is like last time i had uh this twitter video up but yeah so he's
been using it uh for years now in 2021 there he is uh josh anderson stick it's a tweet from back
uh from tim and friend sometimes you got to stick with what works cory perry has been using josh
anderson stick and it's been working so this isn't this isn't a new thing four teams ago yeah he was
on the habs obviously stole that stick he stole it then he went to the tampa bay lightning uh
Then he went to the Chicago Blackhawks,
and now he's on the Edmonton Oilers.
And he's still using Josh Anderson's stick?
It's probably the same, like, whatever pro stock he uses
is probably just the exact same.
Who has scored more goals using Josh Anderson's stick
over the last two years?
Corey Perry or Josh Anderson?
I'm pretty sure Corey Perry is working better for him.
I'm just saying it.
Anyway, that's your BetMGM big story.
It's got to be Dylan Holloway's gloves.
Got to be.
uh david your check is not happy with the columbus blue jackets uh according to the article posted
the athletic from aaron port's line friend of the show he said i played good hockey in the nhl i'm
an nhl player right now that's my opinion that i should be in the nhl right now i see guys in the
same draft like simon nemich and kevin kurchinsky and they get a chance to play on the power play
they play a ton of minutes in the nhl those are different teams so different situations but i can
compare with them. I just want a chance to play like that. Now, this is after he was called up
January 9th, couldn't find his way into the lineup, sent back to Cleveland. And if you haven't been
paying attention to Columbus Blue Jackets hockey, David Juracek is one of their six best defensemen.
He's just not one of the ones that has a contract that is not able to be sent down, meaning all the
other guys have to be waived. So he's the odd man out, even though he's better than players
currently playing now we know and we talked about this last week that the Blue Jackets have a log
jam at defense and that would be a great problem to have if they were good at it right they're
absolutely terrible they're terrible and so what's happening is these players are being somewhat
devalued because they're playing on the Blue Jackets and it just seems to be a very very messy
situation in Columbus it's it's not just that the Blue Jackets are terrible it's they're terrible
in the third period uh producer drew brought this up they're on pace to potentially be do you guys
have the link yes i have it right here there you go drew sent it to me too oh okay good because i
couldn't find it i was wondering why you were bringing it up i'm like why is he on the phone
you can't get you can't get this it's relevant all right here you go um so they're on pace to
potentially be the worst third period uh team of all time this season the goal differential
why is it 0.5 i don't know okay well negative 61 is potentially uh their goal differential in the
just in the third period just in the third by the way the sharks i think are negative
wait no i'm wrong their goal differential for the whole game is 61 the third period is negative 63
wow so they're actually treading water in the first and second period yes yeah but they die
yes they die a horrible fiery death in the third period and it's because they're bad right like
that's this is the thing the blue jackets are bad they weren't supposed to be this bad you
you can't be that bad in the third period without it being the whole team you know what i mean it's
got to be goaltending it's got to be defense it's got to be the forwards it's got to be coaching
it's got to be absolutely everything oh my gosh that's so bad and like look at the teams they're
competing with too there's no team from recent memory the most recent team uh in the conversation
oh no ottawa senators are ottawa from 93 94 holy santa claus balls that is terrible
that's actually terrible holy cow yeah man they're brutal they're brutal and i just whenever a player
like you're a check does what david you're a check just did the fact that he's right has nothing to
do with it we all agree he's right he should be playing right yeah yeah yeah he should be playing
it's not gonna help him that he said this i don't think it's gonna stop him for very long that may
i i don't think you say this uh unless you're looking for a move or you knew the man you know
the management's not going to be there very long and either could be at play here but i'm pretty
sure the management's not going to be there that long well they're they already don't have a problem
making you a healthy scratch and they're being a hard ass on everyone and they sent down kent
johnson uh at the beginning of the season even though he was obviously one of their 12 best
forwards even if he wasn't in the best shape or whatever the issue was um if i was a blue jackets
and i was vindictive and also bad at my job he wouldn't see nhl ice the rest of the season
and you would still lose your job you would still lose your job like frankly if it doesn't matter if
your check plays or plays well that management group's gone well and they're gone what's the
incentive to win at this point well for them it's their next job like you want if you're if you're
yarmo and you're you're jd you want to have uh you want to have a place to land and you know
they've been there a decade when one thing that i'm curious about with the blue jackets is you
When those guys move on, there isn't a single person, I think you can make the argument at least,
there isn't a single person in this organization who hasn't been hired either directly by
or indirectly by those two guys. They've been there that long. So when JD and Kekeleinen move
on, how much will the culture really change? And how much of a mess will the Blue Jackets
continue to be? You look at what happened in Vancouver. Jim Rutherford took over last year
after Jim Benning, and you realized not that Jim Benning did a great job, but how many geysers he
had to put his hands on yeah to stop the ship from sinking um and he had to it took a year to
clean that up it was a good bugs bunny read oh yeah but that's the that honestly is what was
running through my head and i think that whoever takes over the blue jackets next there's got to
be a season of all right so where are the problems we got to go find them john ferguson jr was the
general manager of the leafs for four years five yeah he's never gotten a top job ever again
Yarmulke Kalinin has been at the helm for over a decade in Columbus and they haven't accomplished
a thing they won a qualifying round and a first round and that's it you can't even say that like
they didn't make the playoffs regularly like it was like exactly they like they uh like up until
the the qualifying round and the in beating Tampa their like greatest accomplishment as a franchise
was they didn't beat pittsburgh in the first round but they gave him a run like like i i know i i know
you're talking about they're they're trying to win for the next job the last decade makes you
unhirable like for a top job anyway like these guys always find scouting jobs and even agm jobs
I have no doubt in Kekulainen's ability there, but top job?
It should be years, years since he's even considered for one of these things.
He's done a terrible job.
The team stinks.
Yeah.
And it's a shame because it does seem like a waste of talent.
I think David Jurczyk's probably going to be fine,
but this seems like another wasted last year in Columbus.
And that's a good fan fan base there.
That's a group of people that really need to see and should see a winner.
And this roster is underperforming itself.
And of course, this weekend we had Patrick Laine, the news about him coming out.
And the reason I kept that separate from the Eurocheck stuff is because it is separate.
National Hockey League Players Association and National Hockey League announced that Patrick Laine of the Columbus Blue Jackets will be unavailable to the club for an indefinite period while he receives care from the player assistance program of the NHLPA and NHL.
under the terms of the joint program he will return to the club when cleared for on ice
competition by program administrators patrick uh put out a really nice statement as well
but um the reality is you know he has gone through a pretty tough time separately of
whatever's going on with the columbus blue jackets yeah they're um uh well some fans have
sent this to me um like we know uh line a lost his father and obviously that takes a toll on
anybody um and one thing that's been sent to me numerous times this season is tj brody as well
um you know everyone deals with things uh differently and i think when a player plays
through that and you know they put on some heroic herculean effort yes we remember it
um but like that's the exception to the rule and i i don't think uh like frequent injuries
should be discounted here like it's it's a it's an affliction to your body but like that that
screws with your brain and you got to work so hard to recover and rehab and you put all your
efforts physically and mentally into that and then you just get back and you play a few games and you
break your collarbone after everything that he's been through so i think if anyone could use some
time off uh he'd be near the top of the list yeah yeah so uh not good in columbus and continuing not
to be good um it's a shame uh for patrick but more i think more to the organization um i this is one
of those rare instances where i think ownership needs to step in and take control of their
franchise they don't do that we already know they don't do that like they had a scandal in camp
issued a statement where they harumphed and then i don't remember their names i don't remember what
they do the in the statement in the statement uh ownership level said that they didn't want
any more disruptions during the season for the management group like how's that going they didn't
want uh to affect any more change and on the organization so they're they've been waiting
to make any big sweeping changes they want to do that at the gm and the president level but i think
i don't know i feel like we've reached a point where you can just make the in-season move and
i don't know if it's any better to make because if they want to wait to do it in
middle april like does that really make a difference as opposed to you do it
early february the argument could be that um you want people with hockey relationships in there if
you're going to trade some of these guys out like if proberoff goes or peak goes or if any of those
but like those are the guys that have screwed it up so far so do you want them making your trade
right and the way i look at it is the faster you start making the changes the sooner you'll be on
the other end of things the more you delay this the longer it's going to take to rebuild the
franchise so if your goal is to ultimately fire jd and kekalainen do it sooner so that you can
get the next people up and running well and and like okay you don't want to cause any disruptions
um so you're the the subtext is so fire them later but like why are you firing them because
they're doing such a good job right right the the the thing they're hoping for is fingers crossed
this all works out you know it's we screwed up the babcock thing uh now we're just hoping that
everything kind of works out with pascal vincent they're running the organization like well and
everything's good but that clearly hasn't been the case so you have i don't know what is that
four months of evidence five months of evidence that it's not good so make the moves that's
committing season arson yeah lighting 82 games on fire and just watching it burn for six months
well what they what's heaven the the mantra was the reason they didn't drop jd and and kekaline
and uh well i they didn't say this but i would imagine money was part of it because you still
have to pay them uh and secondly they didn't want any more chaos as camp rolled on and what they've
gotten instead is a season of it and it's like not not the kind of chaos that that babcock's
stuff brought but the kind of chaos that demoralizes a team that like you know i i can
only imagine uh what boone jenner feels right now or like guys that like boone jenner who's played
the most games in franchise history is probably like oh my like is this ever gonna be yeah he has
691 um is this ever gonna be good enough uh what do we need to do here remember because you got to
go back in time and i think this is uh something important to the blue jackets story and the blue
jackets fans they signed that massive extension for zach warrensky now it hasn't worked out but
that's not really anybody's fault like he just injuries he keeps getting injured but part of
the reason they paid him so much money is that was their their flag uh in the dirt going we are
willing to pay players we are willing to keep people here because they had recently just lost
a bunch of people i can't remember who panarin i think brofsky panarin and bobrofsky but it was i
anyway getting all caught up in that and then while they're not in a contention window at all
they signed Johnny Gaudreau and once again it was we are here we're the Columbus Blue Jackets
no we're not contenders right now but we're friggin trying and we are willing to spend
money and things actually kind of you could see the framework okay we have our franchise defenseman
we have our um you know big free agent scoring winger we have a few other things we're trying
local guy jack roslovich that's that's a fun like it's a great story morale signing you know what i
mean uh or trade they got him in the line a trade dubois gone which is its own little thing um uh
we are getting some high picks you're a check you should get his jersey fantilli you should get his
jersey and it just feels like the framework has completely it was it was a framework of sugar and
it's melted in the rain like it's just it's gone it's gone like it's it's gonna take quite a bit
of effort to rebuild this and we keep looking at the team and like we see there's talent there's
talent it's yeah like they're not they don't need to burn this thing to ash like they don't have
nothing um but it's complete chaos like they need to be grabbed by the collar and shaken and it's
going to take more than telling your coach to be mean i wonder what they do with johnny gaudreau
guys like i wonder what that is he really you got to think that in the prime of his career this is
not where he expected to be i mean he he chose to be pay him every month in johnny goudreau's first
full season so his rookie season in 14 15 he had 24 goals right now he has seven he has seven goals
he has seven goals 24 assists 31 points he's on pace to have a worse season than his rookie year
and like nick robertson has seven goals matthew nise is eight
dude and last year if you take a look at the numbers 21 goals 53 assists the assist numbers
are there but the goals have just taken a a sharp fall off like i told you negative 54 since joining
the columbus blue jackets overall 74 points in 80 games is with the blue jacket do something but
you score 40 goals in 21 22 and it just disappears i would argue last year's blue jackets were worse
like at least on paper you think oh man i man i watched some of their games holy shit
bad oh my god they were tough to watch they were they were tough watches this year um i mean they
obviously get by a little bit on talent in periods one and two i mean dude it's something
has got to be said about how bad they are in the third and i mean maybe that's the silver lining
If you want to look at this as an optimist, the second they figure that out, even a bit, you could still be one of the worst teams in the NHL in the third period.
But as long as you're not negative 63 bad and the first and second are pretty good, you'll win four, five, six more games next year with that strategy.
maybe pick up a few more otls and sols and start to pave a road to the playoffs for god's sake

Another team where you could see the talent, but you definitely cannot see the results,
and they're sitting currently two points behind the Blue Jackets,
despite having played four less games.
The Ottawa Senators, who have allowed four goals a game since Jacques Martin took over.
is is dj smith could he be the greatest coach of all time
could he be the greatest coach that the senators ever had steve stales did something the other day
that i hated by the way what do you do uh he basically talked he announced his uh did he
announce his arrival nine months before it was gonna happen listen when you're right nine months
ahead of time you're right sorry um no but like he um he talked about dj smith being a great
motivator but uh not a great tactician which i think one is a terrible thing to say about a guy
that you gassed um but two the guy you replaced him with is clearly failing like i don't doubt
jacques martin's coaching pedigree and resume and all that stuff but they've been awful they've been
awful i don't understand how you can say that about dj smith after he's out the door
i don't get that well i think i mean they went with familiar they went with alfie they went
with martin um it's it's one thing to make a mistake but you're you are backhanded complimenting
the guy that you gassed right as you do worse than you did with him i mean i mean so i mean
if you want to be if you want to play it straight maybe this is just who they are because ann lauer
said uh something to that effect about jeff molson not that same effect but that he was
perhaps more profit driven than winning driven whoa and that they weren't always on the same
page that's a tough thing to say man now consider this though randy carlisle was not doing well with
the leafs they were sort of ish in a playoff spot in 13 14 they fire him bring in peter horacek
who proceeds to lose all the games all the games something like 44 out of 55 it was bad it was so
bad bad bad bad time and very few people there were some but very few people looked at how
horacek did and went you know what this means carlisle is a great coach oh i don't think i i'm
being facetious i don't think dj smith is like a great head coach i just don't uh but i don't
think jacques martin was the guy um if you look at what the edmonton oilers did and they're the
other huge notable coaching change this season that everybody points to is non-blocks a guy
that's younger he's worked his way up he's on the cutting edge of new tactics because he's coming
from a junior league and jacques martin when was the last time he was coaching in the nhl the guy
is 70 and it's not to say that seven-year-olds can't coach they can but it's been a long time
since we've seen Jacques Martin and it's not like there was a lineup to get him there's a wild
amount of guys in their 70s uh coaching in hockey no but I'm 60s and 70s my point is though that
that like these guys that's great good for you but like sure is it was there some lineup to get
him or was it just because he used to coach the senators when they made the playoffs and were a
threat right well did you go with the right tactician or did you go with a name just a guy
i think is the question it is i think they went with a name and i think alfie's a name too and
no offense to alfredson i think he's a he could maybe he is going to be a great coach but the
reality is if daniel alfredson didn't have daniel alfredson's name but had a similar resume
on the coaching side daniel alfredson is not the assistant coach of the ottawa senators right now
and i like him there but i'm but let's be honest let's let's be honest about it well and sends
fans i'm sure are screaming through the windshield right now so i'll say it for you one of the first
things jacques martin did when he got the job was he came in and he defended the team's goaltending
and oh specifically oh this weekend was so bad specifically eunice corpus hollow and he's like
well he's a good goalie are we playing well enough in front of him and they might still not be playing
well enough in front of him no they are they're not playing well enough in front of him however
he just signed that big ticket deal and has been atrocious the the comeback win this this weekend
was unbelievable dude how are you up how are you letting goals in like that i couldn't believe i
And if you look at the numbers from since Jacques Martin was named head coach,
the goals that they've been scoring,
like where they're sitting in the standings isn't bad.
Like they're sitting 11th in the league in goals scored
since Jacques Martin has been head coach.
Which is well into the top half.
Hell yeah.
That's awesome.
Goals against, they're last.
They've had the most goals since he's been head coach.
And that's like you can't have that at all.
You got to be able to stop anything to win in this league.
and their special teams has also sucked their 25th on the power play and 28th on the penalty kill
so the special team sucks and they can't stop a beach ball the only thing they can do is score
every now and again and who who knows how much of the goal scoring and score effects because
you're trailing so much because you can't score anything that's a good point so i don't have any
doubts in their offensive abilities as a team i really don't sure and so i but i just look at
kind of every aspect of their their game the special teams and how you're stopping how you're
scoring if you're not doing the special teams which is a lot of coaching you know there's a
lot of tactician stuff in that and all of that's on both sides is struggling and you can't stop
anything it's like what are they there's middling and going on a spiral and it's very disappointing
for a team that has such high expectations and you look at down the roster and you say oh that's
a great young piece but they can't put it together also being worst in the league in goals against
since uh martin came on board there are some contenders out there man there are and you're
the worst in this league who mean to be yes the blackhawks the sharks ducks eat the ducks and
like even the blue jackets we just talked about how how are the blue jackets like historically
bad in the third period and you're allowing more goals than them by that's a crisis it's 92 goals
December 6th is when Jacques Martin
was hired. Since then, the Blue Jackets
have allowed 92 goals. The Ottawa Senators
have allowed 100 goals.
It's not like it's close.
That's a lot of goals.
That's a lot of goals for a short amount
of time. That's crazy.
That is crazy.
I don't know if they...
He's got to be temporary.
This can't be your long-term fix
for how it's gone.
I don't think he was ever meant to be like that.
I think if things had gone well,
if they'd seen a turnaround, he'd be back next year.
but i don't think you can do that now i still don't think you would have been well and and so
then this makes me this is how bad they've been now it makes me question do i want this guy as
an advisor oh shit he was brought in a week before dj smith was fired to be the advisor
yeah but i think it's it's also pretty clear um you know he's this 25 year old high school
student coming in with a mustache going how do you do fellow kids and you know do you know where
i can purchase drugs and like he's he's obviously the narc right his job is to go in there and weed
out the problems on the team he's the guy on survivor who's like i'm not here to make friends
yeah exactly right like you know the guy who's in charge of finding out who should be traded
is on your bench every night and this isn't the equivalent of lou lamorello going behind the bench
right right um which has happened before and i'm sure made players very nervous um this uh
it has some of the same undertones in that yeah somebody's down there now watching you
you know and like what was it nice and loosey-goosey before that and now he's on the
bench it might it's a little tighter i see it's kind of like when you have a sub but then everybody's
kind of acting out and the teacher from next door comes over to help the sub and they're like
the regular one of the actual staff is here and you kind of straighten up and they tell you i'm
ratting on all of you yeah and you know you're boned yeah that's that's what it's kind of like
when you throw down martin or lou because they're going to management right and the the numbers i'm
quoting are from the senior advisor hiring date because i think that's kind of the martin's thrown
in their date yes opposed to behind the bench date yeah yeah i think uh uh what was interesting
too this weekend was uh i think elliot friedman on headlines on hockey night had um he was talking
about how one of the teams that are apparently interested in chris tannev would be the senators
and i was like that's nice that they're interested like i instantly thought like steve going i'm
interested in the lamborghini uh because they what what frege i think said was like well they'd have
to convince them on their vision and i don't think their vision is far enough along for a guy like
chris tenev to uh commit unless he's like yo they're paying me an absolute fortune and i'm
but this is something they've done the last few years it actually makes a lot of sense because
they they went out and and they signed jerome free agency they signed tarasenko they traded
for chikrin they've been doing this thing where they're getting legitimate nhl players and not
prospects these last couple years and none of it's kind of worked out right which is if i'm
chris tenev i'm like yeah but it ain't gonna just be me like good pros i chikrin apparently wants
out right Giroux wants to stay he's an Ottawa guy um but but yeah the the word is on Chikrin that
he's probably out the door very soon within the next 12 months so then you go I think this is
Calgary playing their games okay honestly Calgary playing their games I'm so sick of that management
group they're always the top story on hockey day so maybe that's not fair to the senators but yeah
yeah no I'm so sick of them oh no everyone wants our players who we're keeping by the way everyone
shut up anyone stupid enough to get fleeced by these liars uh should hand in they should just
quit it's so naked what the flames are doing shut up this the ottawa senators are acquiring a 34
year old he's a good pro for their contention window i guess shut up you don't believe it no
i'm so sick of the calgary flames management that's why i caught it stop what that doesn't
make any sense but dave put down the phone stop it dave that's enough dave good lord talking about
who known as yeah we've seen this we've seen this uh this musical before in toronto this is how it
was in toronto it was it when dave notice was here leaky leaky leaky ship and it was it was
lou lou coming in and going okay no one's talking to any i bet the sends are in on hannifin too
shut up i'm so sick of this act i like i am i am bitter about it as a leaf fan because
dude didn't it seem imminent it seemed like the leafs were getting half of the flames roster
yeah it did at minimum they were gonna get zadorov whose agent tagged the leaf that's one of the
craziest like he tagged the leafs he tagged them he tagged a team and said his client was not on
it's the equivalent of alan walsh uh being like oh i heard you need a right hand shot hashtag leafs
and and posted a picture of david urachek which would be on par with the sword tweet
i think it'd be crazier a little i probably would a little crazier we thought they were
gonna get zadorov and then they were in on tanev both of them and then at some point brad told him
to fly a kite and the flames moved on and they started finding other marks i'm so sick of what
they are very obviously nakedly doing i told you last week for the last three weeks in a row
headline has centered around the calgary flames the first story for each leads with
they're trying and i thought i was like well this is a change up it involves the flames but it's
the senators can i read the quote yeah read it all right so the the report this is in the hockey
news they had the quote from friedman the report comes from sports nets elliot friedman who discussed
it on saturday's broadcast tanev makes perfect sense for a guy to be on ottawa's radar no he
does not continue is friedman says i don't know what the possibility is at this time zero i think
chris tanev would probably prefer a playoff scenario this year yeah no shit for this year
the senators are not a playoff team we'll see about the future but i do think he's one of the
names on their radar like dude if he signs with ottawa in the summer and it proves to be a good
idea um maybe they can make the playoffs and he can go through a playoff run at 35
um like you're running out of swings right and you're christian if teams want you
you're heading into a ufa here you shoot right that's the lottery it's the lottery
and you pick ottawa i need the flames to stop i need it makes perfect sense the fuck no it doesn't
make perfect sense it doesn't do you know how there's nothing about that that makes perfect
sense do you know how many teams are out there that make more sense than ottawa right now for
chris tan i think there's what are we doing i think probably 31 yeah maybe not 31 perhaps a 28
honestly and and like it's closer to 28 than one the only one only thing about it that makes sense
is a he's a good pro yeah okay what does that mean there is no b you're looking for good people who
take care of themselves Chris Tanev is one of those guys that's the only reason it makes sense
for Tanev's point of view I'm like no they're trying to drive up uh the price of a player
through you know reports and narratives and all that instead of driving up the value of a player
by uh doing what usually drives up the value of the player winning hockey games I'm so sick of
the flames management group so i know what's going on here stop now the hanafin thing has been just
circling for weeks if he does resign if he does resign steve are you going to eat your words with
the calgary flames eat my words what the the well they're they're putting his name out there the
rumor was he's gonna get traded and also he's gonna resign but he might get traded but he might
re-sign unless he's
traded and then re-signs.
I don't remember even what my opinion
was.
There have been 40,000
things with this player.
I am banning
Calgary Flames content.
Why are you banning that?
I can't quote a Julian McKenzie
article, Steve. I am not going to be
party to the Calgary Flames grift.
They're trying to
grift the entire industry shut up stop no and i heard they're also into shut up
like do you know like how micro it is what do you mean like like how remember um
the leafs were the flames mark of choice uh a month or two ago and they're talking about like
Well, if there's going to be a trade for, I can't remember who it was, Tanev,
it could involve Nick Abruzzese.
Like, they're just fucking, like, just reaching into a hat and picking out names.
Because he played university hockey with one of your prospects who you sent to the minors?
I hate these guys.
Not the fan base, not the team.
Like the fan base.
What about the people who live in the city?
kind of like the tea you know what city's great oh big fan we're all clear it's a great city
big fan of the elk and i don't mean eating them that's only in video games i eat them
i mean seeing them at the side of the highway and going look it's an elk
but dude they're they're so obviously just trying to grift the whole business
you know what's going to be great when we talk about them for nearly a calendar year the deadline
shows up and they do fuck all well then they were right they did keep everybody and then lose
everyone in free agency it would look good on them trade no one and lose them all eat shit um
nhl oh sorry jesse before before we move on just one little thing i want to do based off of the
ottawa senators numbers since um jock martin was named senior advisor to the ottawa senators oh
yeah sure uh there's this this thing we quote sometimes and that's it you might as well just
rename hockey goaltending you know yeah yeah and i i don't subscribe to that philosophy at all like
that idea because if you look at just the numbers of how teams perform when they have poor goaltending
better teams can outperform their goaltending so the ottawa senators since jock martin was
named senior advisor have an 875 safe percentage that is real bad that's awful they're 8 15 and 2
in that same time span the dallas stars have an 889 save percentage it's better that's that's 30th
out of 32 teams the ottawa senators were 32 and the colorado avalanche have an 890 that's
29th in the league since that span i did not know that's awful those two teams have gone 16 7 and 1
and 16 7 and 3 holy shit despite having the 29th and 30th worst goaltending in that span
They have gone 16-7-1 and 16-7-3, the Dallas Stars, and the Colorado Avalanche.
Hockey is not just goaltending.
If you've got a good team, you can outwin your bad goaltending.
Jesse Blake.
Did Drew send you that?
No, no.
I was just looking at the stats when we were looking at the Jacques Martin stuff.
I wasn't suspicious until I saw the abs.
I'm like, Drew, did you put them up for this?
That's wow.
Those are two very good teams who have had the 29th and 30th worst goaltending since December 6th, and they've just been winning.
Wow.
you can't just excuse goaltending your way out of your problems that's the only point i want to make
that no it's a very very good point it does get coaches fired but i'm sorry sorry uh jay woodcroft
sorry the turnaround there is why whatever happened to todd richards that's the guy who
got goaltended out of a job with columbus yeah he forgot how to goalie and then he remembered
10 games in after richards was fired and then he was spectacular um i saw um i think it was paul
almeida from uh oh man i forget who he works for he covers the oilers though he was like can you
imagine the coverage the leafs would get if they won 16 straight and i was like what has no one
talked about the oilers winning 16 straight i think i feel like that's the headline every time
you talk about hockey like it's the most impressive thing they've done just say you don't like toronto
you don't need to do all this yeah you don't need to make it about the coverage you just
don't like toronto that's okay you don't need it's fine it's fine you don't need to do all this
everyone has talked about how good oh yeah you know when is the media gonna finally talk about
connor mcdavid was he come on media who said this to you no i saw the tweet it was
from edmonton and a billion likes and you're like what why do you think you know this fiction
for a week now for a week like leading up to the next coming week all i'm gonna be thinking about
is edmonton versus vegas like that's the biggest hockey game this entire season oh that game that
you highlighted last show because it's a holy shitting game and we get a week of anticipation
like this is a cool moment i feel like that's the number one headline in hockey right now what do
mean you want more coverage you know mcdavid might be all-star captain but you know you got
will arnett instead of bieber and i think that's unfair and it shows clear toronto media but what
are we doing yeah i think that's probably one tweet you saw somebody complaining i don't think
everybody wants it i think if you're a hockey fan that's the number one story and and it's been the
number one story on our show for a week yeah i saw it's all we've talked about a jets fan go
delete fans know how hated they are the fuck yes what are you talking about you think you hate us
you can't even imagine how much we hate ourselves yes you'll never hate me more than i do now that
that's got to be one tweet i think everybody else realizes who cares that is the big deal listen if
that's what makes them feel good fine all right who cares i think i'm not who's taking measurements
on this stuff we like you edmonton don't like we hate you i thought it was funny yeah how we come
in for basically every show over the last two weeks and we go wow edmonton's won 10 straight
the next show is they've won 11 straight the next show is they won 12 we'll get comments we'll get
comments on videos it's funny um where people will be like i can't believe you guys haven't
talked about the oilers and somebody will write that was their lead story did you watch the show
like what are you talking about but you know like it's listen you gotta have what i think the oilers
are doing right now it's the tom brady thing and i think the jets are doing it too and i think their
fans are doing it remember when tom brady won with the bucks and he was like oh the world didn't
think we could and then his last championship with the patriots oh the world didn't think we
could right and i feel like what they're doing right now is it's like i gotta have an enemy
and i'm gonna make it toronto because it's the easy one fine sure fine sure and and i'm gonna
make it the networks because they because the leafs are gonna dominate coverage even though
we're doing great things where's our flowers nobody's giving it to us and when we win the cup
all i'm gonna do is everybody like a sprinkler just double double birds baby i think the oilers
are gonna win it is the oilers are gonna win the cup and have the parade in toronto every
oilers fan i talked to they are they're gonna win the cup every oilers fan i talked to are
completely normal yeah this is just one group of weirdos man like are there chemicals in the
keyboard though i think it's just i think most oilers fans are like hey this is great and i'm
not thinking about toronto because we just won 16 straight and by the way the tom brady thing that
you mentioned after he did it a certain amount of times what did you say come on tom shut up
yeah yeah and if you want to talk about the oilers a little it was a great win on saturday
because i thought it was like a gritty win that you don't i don't really expect out of the team
because they they didn't put up a whole ton of shots it was like 21 shots and they get the four
goals and everything but they weren't they weren't getting things going five on five and they
capitalize on on two power play opportunities you know they had two out of three on the power play
and that's you can't give the oilers those opportunities and it was it was great to see
them pull out that win because nashville is a team they've struggled against in the past and
and you get you don't have your game going at five on five they give you those opportunities
you capitalize you shut it down the rest of the way stewart skinner looks great and you win the
game like that's like that's perfect hockey and they played it on saturday going into the break
It wasn't perfect.
No, here's why it wasn't perfect.
They got two power play goals.
No Evan Bouchard points.
I have them in fantasy. Piss me off.
Oh, I thought it was because they didn't score the goals
five on five.
Oh, that too.
McDavid had a goal or an assist
on every goal.
He was one goal, three assists.
What's he at? Because I was talking about him hitting
1,000. I know he's not going to do it this
season, which I apparently
have to qualify.
um but uh he's gonna get like within arm's reach of a thousand if you want by the end of the points
leaders right now mcdavid sits four wow the last time we brought it up he was eight and then before
that he was like in the 20s so click click on him for his career though that's career 67 points
and 40 some odd had to be 67 by the way i know 917 he has 917 what a friggin alien i don't think
he's getting 80 the rest of the way but why not i mean david he could i think he'll i mean 950 i
think would be a disappointment that's that's only like 33 more points he's gonna smoke 950
950 is definitely doable
damn
975
that is so crazy
next couple games
he'll have 600 assists
unbelievable
well because he hit
he hit 900
early enough in the season
I'm like
what if he hits 1000
and it's going to be
extremely difficult
but it's not
it's crazy
don't tell me that
if you're him
you're like
you're racing for that
you're trying a little bit
he hits 1000
they win the cup
in 15 games
100%
and I know you need 16 to win
I don't care
you know what
the other team would just be like
you know what
we can't it's not as how many games does mcdavid have left because he didn't play he hasn't played
all the games how many he missed two yeah so he has like 30 37 35 in there somewhere if it's 35
and it's 2.5 points a game he gets it is that is that out is that outrageous for connor mcdavid
shaking his head like we haven't watched him do it several times we watched him do it on saturday
like he had four points yeah i don't know he has seven points his last two games 35 games left
2.5 points a game 87 and a half and and so what if that's a thousand and a couple of those games
if he does four or five points which is completely possible by the way yeah so that that takes that
takes that number down significantly yeah he just needs to average out yeah 2.5 a game like
i don't know man i think it's possible it's the fact that you're not completely out of the it
It should be completely out of the question.
It should be asinine.
We should be celebrating probably next year in November
or this year in November, right?
It's like, oh, no, this could be April.
He probably breaks it by...
I would say the deadline is Halloween.
So if he doesn't do it by the end of the season,
give him a month.
Something catastrophic has happened
if it's not by Halloween, though.
Steve, you're not far off.
I know, man.
A thousand could be in reach.
Why don't you believe in him, though?
I don't know.
All right.
won 16 games. Let's see
him do 17. And then we'll
consider giving him the third spot.
Can we get Drew's take
on the Arlen's winning streak, Drew? What do you think?
Teddy Bear
Contenders, Paper Tigers.
He's an Avalanche fan!
He's an Avalanche fan! How are they going to do in the playoffs?
Probably lose round one.
Wow.
To who?
Vancouver.
That would be so
good.
I think Rodgers would take you back.
Also, piss your fan bases off at once.
Isn't it crazy how many more points he has than Austin Matthews
in the same amount of games?
Yeah, because Matthews, Coach Chippy had a funny TikTok
about Matthews not passing the puck.
He didn't know what assists were.
What does he have, 18?
18, yeah.
I think he has fewer assists than Max Domi.
By the way, Matthews is the fastest player in Leafs history
as of this weekend to hit 600.
Oh, yeah.
We're just going to move on from the Oilers
and talk about austin freaking math i interrupted the story you were trying to get to like many
minutes ago i was gonna go to the review thing but let's talk since we're talking about points
i'll segue with matthews getting his 40th that's 40 goals in 46 games stupid but it's it's toronto
so we can't talk about it like i know there are shows on the air by the way right now who are
afraid to talk about toronto because they might piss off people from other markets i'm like which
is wild but austin matthews uh is is scoring at an unbelievable pace and he doesn't need to pass
why are we so and this is my thing why are we so obsessed with assists in this game no other sport
gives a shit does anyone care like soccer when you see somebody kick a goal you know what they
show you in brackets next to the goal how far away from the goal he was when he scored it
in basketball is anybody really looking at assists other than like triple doubles and stuff like no
no one gives a shit what's shit what's shea gildress alexander he's the leading scorer this
year right it's not a bad take scoring is harder than setting up a play sorry it is i'm gonna let
him make it though it is no yeah goals matter more they do fuck off with the assist man that
why is there one person that scores a goal but two people get an assist that's right because it
doesn't matter it's the he who finishes gets paid the most there's a reason for that and and i'm not
trying to take away from connor mcdavid here so don't conflate the two things but what matthews
is doing whoa oh boy when was the last time we had a guy score 70 goals what did you just say
about matthews and mcdavid well i didn't say anything do you i said i wasn't you okay i was
i was i was saying i'm saying connor mcdavid is not as good drew just shut the comments on yeah
you think you think matthews this season is more impressive because he has more goals no that's
not what i'm saying either i actually think conor mcdavid season is the most impressive this year
and if he doesn't win the heart like like he didn't in 2017 which i'm still pissed about
sorry taylor hall that was conor mcdavid's heart trophy oh typical toronto uh oh we they didn't
make the playoff so we can't vote for them screw off um conor mcdavid should be winning the heart
every year matthew's scoring at this pace who's the last guy to hit 70 in a year was it brett hall
or tamu solani oh yeah probably tamu or maybe you ever hit it no no now ovi to be fair was coming
out of the dead puck era when he started and it wasn't like mcginley and tamu had 76 in 92 93
adjusting for era ovi had like over 70 era adjusted goals when he hit 60 plus okay um but no one cares
about that those aren't real i just had to point it out they aren't real also uh adam saying that
mcdavid deserved the uh heart when taylor hall won it there's more pro toronto anti alberta bias
why is that david is from the greater toronto area and hall is from alberta by the way oilers
fans no 2017 mcdavid got robbed he should have had a heart trophy there it's such a bullshit way
oh yeah the gta who cares the kid who grew up a leafs fan okay all right all right that's fine
that's fine listen um uh saturday night uh was another really kind of testy game between the
the the jets and the leafs and we'll talk about the review stuff because it ties into columbus
and vancouver as well so we're gonna set that aside that was the called back for twosie goal
i do want to say the toronto maple leafs taking four of four possible points uh against the
winnipeg jets third best team in the league going into the all-star break has to feel good for their
confidence easily the i mean leafiest outcome since the last one i mean like i was looking at
this going you're not going to win both games yep you have to win the first one please win the first
one they do by the skin of their teeth won nothing in overtime um and then uh they got a little
healthier morrissey was playing um someone else returned velarde i think yep um and hellebox and
net for that one and the jets have home ice advantage i'm like there's no way the leafs
come away with the win in this one and then the jets score early and it's not a great goal i
thought there's no way there's no i can't believe they won that game well you even texted the group
you're like this is just no it's not gonna be great and they've won some important games this
season like like i think i think that matters like they weren't playing their best but winning
that game i keep bringing it up against vancouver in toronto before they went to sweden was huge
huge why because their season could have gone one of two ways at that point like they played some
good hockey they played some bad hockey they played some ho-hum hockey they stick up for each
other which was a big narrative at that point in the season they're still soft they have no snot
what was the point of the reeve signing and then there were two fights from you guessed it the
oldest active player in the national hockey league and taidomi's son but they come back and they win
that game against the canucks team that was not really beatable at the time they win that really
aren't no they fly across the atlantic they have a comeback win against detroit again not a mona
lisa but it's a big win and uh william neilander walks off an entire country he walked off sweden
and they rode that to the some of the best hockey they've played over the last few years for like a
month they you know fell off the cliff a little bit fell off the cliff a little bit ilya samsonov
you know was not playing well at all um and they've had some dips since then but to go into
the all-star break everyone's in a good mood you got four of four against a team that you shouldn't
be able to get four of four against basically no matter who you are unless you're two other teams
there's only two other teams uh ahead of the jets uh in the standings that's it you shouldn't be
able to get four of four from these guys in a back-to-back injuries or not i know they don't
have shifley the schedule doesn't stop huge wins man what does ilia samson off stopping 58 shots
over two games allowing only two goals and by the way the second goal was like late in the third
period seconds left yeah like who cares um what is that like when do we get to start to feel like
like there's momentum building clearly when do we as fans start to feel comfortable
because i'm starting to feel good now yeah i told you before last game i felt i already feel
comfortable with him back in net and then december goal went in and i went might have spoken too
soon and then i had to remind myself over the course of the game as he was making save after
save and some of them were pretty good ones i was like wait goalies aren't perfect like allowing one
bad goal doesn't mean oh here we go again goalies are going to allow bad goals um uh demko in the
leafs canucks game that the leafs ultimately lost he wasn't good martin jones was worse
but demko did not have a good night they won anyway um and then samsonov uh validated that
feeling with the rest of the game i'm totally comfortable with him already yeah it seems like
the leafs once again just have a regular starting goaltender which is all you can ask out of the guy
you're paying to be your starting goaltender is now he could just give you every night a good
competent start he won't explode every time he's in the net and lose his posts and be in the center
ice when he should be in between the pipes and now it's good it feels fine as far as his leaf
tenure goes the november december that samsonov had was the exception not the rule like yeah i
know he didn't have a great time in washington he was never that bad um but if you just take
his leaf tenure uh and you look at how he was all of last season versus the beginning of this season
versus now the exception is when he was bad yeah that's the exception uh and now it's just kind of
okay you have samson off and you have jones but joseph wall's gonna be back in four weeks maybe
three weeks it seems like the high ankle sprain is pushing it back you know it's
struggling with it a little so it's enough goaltending where you just hold down the fort
till you get now you're gonna have three goaltenders you're gonna have a problem
with uh i think jones still has to go through waivers but it's a good problem to have
uh i would do my utmost to just carry three goalies drew what do you want to say yeah i was
gonna say for the least fans that are worried about the all-star break coming at a bad time
for samsonov what do you say to them that is a really good question um it's a mentality thing
um and i mean what what gave samsonov um the ability to play this way was time off
so i i don't i don't think he'll be he'll be hurt by that if anything he gets to carry this
good feeling for the next week or two um mentally it might be awesome for this dude who's struggled
mentally like it wasn't a mechanics problem that they had to him figuring out you know they didn't
send him down to the ahl and get games or anything it was just hey go figure out your brain
and this break might be good you know a little vacation you're feeling good and you come back
and you continue that momentum one one thing i meant to bring up last show and forgot uh and
it's even more relevant today is when the leaf sent samsonov down i was like so wait you're
going to do what the oilers did with jack campbell that very very very didn't work and you're going
to expect it to work for you that doesn't make any sense and then what did they do not the same
thing they didn't do that they didn't do that at all um so samsonov deserves the most credit
samsonov pulled samsonov out of this but the way the organization handled it was top notch
and jack hamill by the way apparently he's had a couple good games uh down in bakersfield last
couple weeks but mostly he hasn't been the starter like he's been splitting time with uh
with the goalie there and calvin pickard's been solid yeah like there's no reason to well give
you a chance to win games you win 16 games in a row what the hell are you doing with anything
um the uh toronto maple leafs are five oh and oh since mark shifley said is there anything better
than beating the leafs five oh and oh against the jets that's the best um that's the best i mean
you know what bless him bless him he wasn't playing he wasn't playing i know that hurt them
but bless him for there was there much to this rivalry rivalry like the leafs have some sort of
i think every canadian team has some sort of rivalry and with each other and a reason to hate
each other i know we got sick of the canada bubble but a lot of those a lot of the hatred
that came out of the canada bubble is permanent well vancouver toronto was pre-bubble i remember
that vancouver toronto was pre-bubble and um the shifley thing was post-bubble but the reason he
said that is because these guys built up a hatred during the canada bubble and nicolai
eilers developed his hatred of leafs who were 37 years of age and older well so ryan reed scored
the first goal he almost got a second one in the same period dude it was so good it was a great
goal and and then at the end of the game he's kind of looking at nick eilers like i i have to give
sheldon keith credit for putting the fourth line out there with 30 seconds to go because if they
score who gives a shit yeah and and and he's gonna keep things under under control or get out of
control but what was interesting was the reeves and eller going nose to nose you don't want to
fight them if you're eelers like what the hell you don't don't enter that matchup good business
decision but i looked at it and i said i said that like that guy that's got to be the guy that
you have somebody to answer the bell on the ice and dude i know jets fans weren't happy that he
got face to face with the eelers and he got face to face with morrissey i get that i get that and
i would feel the same but as i pointed out in my lfr video what did reeves do nothing right there
And who did the Jets put out there?
Matthew Kachuk would have beaten the brakes off of the smallest player on the team.
Come on.
Yeah, absolutely.
A hundred percent.
Come on.
What?
Yeah.
Sam Bennett is a better tough guy than your guy.
No, no.
I didn't say tougher.
I didn't say better.
I just said, like, if anything, hockey rewards that.
they reward the player who just beats the shit out of people with impunity third man in doesn't
matter bigger smaller doesn't matter all reeves did was be a bit of a jerk that's it no one got
hurt yeah it was just a bit of a jerk the refs did the right decision by tossing him after all
yeah and getting him off the ice obviously there would have been even more melee if they let him
out there for the last one was it like 12 seconds left where there's yeah all right get there was
no reason get off the ice reefs you're just here to cause shit i don't i'm not the biggest guy to
give mark shifley credit for uh his play because you know as as a toronto fan we can't do that
ever but during the broadcast they had a the fantastic stat graphic about mark shifley when
he's been on the jets this season and mark shifley when they don't have him they're 28
nine and four with shifley two two and one without him that number's obviously changed
uh as they they lost uh goals per game 3.39 1.40 without him wow wow dude he's lethal he's
shooting percentage 11 4.4 without him this is as a team as a team it doesn't make sense it makes
perfect sense because he's driving the play up the up the middle but to have that big of a drop
off is crazy and last thing the power play goes from 17.5 percent to 5.9 percent wow yeah and not
a huge sample size but obviously it's it's a five game sample size you can't take so much from it
but clearly there's a significant drop off when the jets don't have shifley and he's been like
just a rock this year so um there's something to it with them not having him for those two games
against the leafs but no excuses you keep playing the games they don't stop and least took care of
business i wonder if he gets any votes for anything yeah if the winnipeg jets finish like
top two in the standings he should definitely deserve some trophy love somewhere he's not
going to be nominated for anything but you know there are plenty of guys who get votes oh yeah
uh don't end up getting nominated hellebuck definitely needs some vesna consideration
like if he's not one he's in their top two oh my god josh rc better than kel mccarr
all day now one of the things that could have affected the outcome of the game but didn't
uh was the called back bertuzzi goal on a william kneelander uh goaltender interference call that
was challenged and not overturned this is i believe the first time the leafs have swung and
missed on a challenge this year if not it's it's two i think so uh and they were like 12 straight
or something it was crazy and if you look at this i think even as jets fans they were like
like it's the only time i've ever heard hockey night in canada be like what what the hell
had no idea kelly rudy had no idea they they tow the line with the nhl they keep it neutral
but boy oh boy were they all like i don't understand this rule and it doesn't make
sense because william nylander was pushed into connor halibut and he got himself back out of
the blue paint allowed connor hellebuck to play goaltender and tyler bertuzzi obviously scored
but that wasn't allowed to count i don't know if anybody understands the rule the most curious
thing too was this same thing happened to zach hyman like what a couple hours before uh it was
a few days a few days like and then it was the call was made in the opposite direction i guess
i guess and this is all we can do is guess because they won't friggin tell us anything
um hyman got like or whoever the oiler was got demolished into the goalie and didn't really
have an opportunity to get back up whereas nylander you could argue you know he's still
on his feet he can move now but again we're guessing and this is my biggest beef with it
i obviously am on the side of this goal should have counted but i'm reasonable
in that i could be convinced that it shouldn't count the nhl did nothing so the broadcast
the the craig simpson and kelly rudy um they don't know why it counts right the nhl then releases
in the most patronizing way possible just the rule book and it doesn't explain anything
it was rule i wonder if i deleted it or if i still have it on my phone um yeah i deleted it
um but they just released i think it was rule 69 nice 0.1 um and they were talking about um
oh yeah um he impaired the goalie's path and we're all like yeah we we know how did he get
there how did he get into the goalie's path you want me to read it yes please uh explanation
video review supported this is from the nhl video review supported the referee's call on the ice
that toronto's william nylander impaired connor hellebuck's ability to play his position
in the crease the decision was made in accordance with rule 69.1 which states in part that goals
should be disallowed only if an attacking player either by his positioning or by contact impairs
the goalkeeper's ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal now if a lot of words
if what it doesn't say is how the attacking player got there which is how the nhl gets around but
there is a rule for that are you on that if an attacking player has been pushed shoved or fouled
by a defending player so as to call cause harm to come into contact with the goalkeeper such
contact will not be deemed contact initiated by the attacking player for purposes of this rule
great good goal provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such
contact which he did so that last line is where the interpretation from the league comes in now
jesse yeah that's a great point you think the league interpreted that last line as
nylander did not make a reasonable effort to get out of the goalie's way i think that because i
have no other explanation for it so that's the only thing out of everything i just read that's
the only line that i can grab onto that would make sense for this so i don't agree with it at all
but i'm just guessing that that's the line they use to interpret the call here so if the nhl
had said that we could still whine and moan about it as fans and be like oh that's bullshit or
whatever but at least we would have an explanation they didn't say that right now we're pissing into
the wind we have no idea and what i was trying to say and i don't know if i articulated it properly
in the lfr was do you understand how far far far back the nhl is of anything relevant
pat mcafee does not have a segment called football is awesome he doesn't have to because he doesn't
need it because everyone knows you need to have a segment and hockey is awesome but you need to
have a segment called hockey is awesome because no one knows what it is the biggest uh marketing
campaign on hockey night in canada is americans don't know shit about hockey and they go around
interviewing americans not knowing shit about hockey why don't americans know shit about hockey
because it's fucking irrelevant so with things like hockey is awesome you are on this campaign
this mission of education you are trying to educate your fans and then on your marquee day
you have a goal it doesn't count and you do not explain why and the explanation that you do give
doesn't make sense because you just stated a rule that didn't really apply here so hockey watching
masses doesn't matter what you think every saturday we expect you to politely and single file
wander up to the trough
eat your slop
and go about your merry way
I think you guys are both missing
the positive here
what's the positive
positive is huge
and I can't believe
that both of you have
walked by
skated by it
waddled by
maybe
nobody
can ever say
the video review judges
in Toronto
are biased again
ever
they do this all the time
and players are really smart
the ones who do this
I think Brad Marchand's
really good at it
if he doesn't like a video review
He goes, yeah, those guys in Toronto.
Oh, yeah.
And then the fans go, they're where?
As if they were anywhere else ever.
They've always been in Toronto.
They must be Leaf fans.
There they are again.
Leaf fans polluting the league.
Play the hits.
Honestly, if you are a Leaf fan, you should be like, ha, I am released.
Not only did we win the game, but we're also released from this bullshit accusation as though these people in the front office are Leaf fans.
No, you're not.
why what do you think evidence has anything to do with that reputation
they haven't won a cup since 1967 but the league is rigged in their favor shut up shut up
anyway the other one that i think people want to talk about is ian cole tyler myers and are we
skipping past the other one in this game what was the other john tavara's a stick oh okay but that
that's replay that wasn't replay but that's crazy ref no so that was wild he did sell that i okay
it's a slash okay so here's what it was yes it was a slash that was missed they wasn't gonna call it
and then tavaris is like see my stick's broken and broke it i would almost rather than miss
that slashing call yeah because that's a horrible precedent to set so that's the big debate is
do you are you allowed to have that conversation with the ref that that it took place in the matter
of like 10 seconds but he didn't make the call initially and he's like my stick's broken and
show me your stick and he breaks it and it's broken he makes the call you know what it reminded
me of there was a i think it was a key and peel or mad tv sketch where uh uh they were reviewing
they were like staring at a player's hips to make sure he didn't thrust like for a uh for a uh
For a taunting call.
A taunting football celebration.
Three thrusts.
And he's like, no, I saw four.
One, two, three.
It's like he's staring at Tavares like, is it a slash?
And Tavares is like, yes.
And the ref's like, show me.
And Tavares is like, what?
And breaks his stick.
But I guess unless you shatter the thing into smithereens, it's not a penalty.
I think it's a very poor precedent to set.
True.
Dude, in the playoffs, someone is absolutely going to break their stick.
just texted me this by the way he said um for the review part you got to do one against the leaf so
it's not as obvious that they're leaf fans at the review he's like you can't have keep going 30 and
oh one reviews so hot damn can they just put the review office in somewhere where there isn't an
nhl team they should pay to move it like just put them somewhere else buffalo's not far no not even
buffalo you you have to put them somewhere where there is no like albany oh let's go to a review
I don't know if that'd be very practical.
I think it makes a lot more sense than having it in Toronto.
Or you know what?
Put it in New York because the Rangers are like eighth on the pecking order of popular teams.
Right?
Seriously.
No one's going to be like, oh, the league is rigged for the Rangers.
No one.
Put it in New York.
Okay.
I'm going to open a map of North America.
Okay.
Why are we doing this?
I'm just going to...
Okay.
Tell me to put my finger down.
Put your finger down.
oh oh my god i think i nailed toronto i did yeah because you probably zoomed out from yeah from
toronto and you just kind of pointed in the middle that wasn't very good here's here's what i would
do i would take nhl review and i would put it in ontario california so it's still in ontario
but it's in ontario california home in the rain with you go with the tavaris thing there is a
Interesting discussion on 32 Thoughts because he's a former referee, right?
Jeff Jackson, the video review guy on the TNT broadcast.
Dave Jackson.
Dave Jackson?
Dave Jackson.
Jeff Jackson is an agent.
Yeah.
Dave Jackson, former referee Dave Jackson.
Nice guy, too.
Sent a message to Merrick explaining what kind of happened there.
And he liked the call because it's a discussion.
Oh, listen.
I like Dave a lot.
But Dave, much like Kelly Rudy, doesn't go against his own kind.
When do you ever hear Kelly Rudy go, man, goaltender was in the wrong?
Never.
Sometimes.
Never, never.
I can't think of a specific example.
Never.
And I love Kelly.
Dave is not going to be like, hey, all my buddies, all 200 of my buddies, you're wrong.
Okay.
Come on.
If you're right, if they're right, scream why they're right from the rooftops.
Jesse has it.
Jesse has it.
Tell me why.
Okay.
so can i get to this please so dave jackson was telling merrick how he liked the call because it
was a discussion between the player and the and the ref in the moment and they they did that to
get the call right so it's it's a judgment call the slashing it's he misses in the moment but
within that it's like it's it's very instantaneous where he gets slashed the ref doesn't see it they
they go back he's like show me the slash it happens he makes the call so in the end he gets
the call right because it was slash that broke the stick should have been called so that little
back and forth with the official is why that happens so they could get the call right so that
was his kind of explanation for it and that's why he liked it so do i agree with that no because i
think it's terrible optics call is do that call is right but the optics are terrible which brings us
to vancouver ah yeah i think that's a perfect transition sure but we can jump off of this
without we didn't really say what are your thoughts on it oh i i still hate the precedent
i was trying to think of what would make it better and like what if tavaris just swung his stick and
it snapped without him putting it on the ice but then you're just flailing a sticker around yeah i
i think i mean the best option would be call it does he need to break the stick for it to be
a slash yes i mean but uh what do you always say about players who get hit in the head
uh don't do that no lie down on the ice oh yeah pretend you're dead pretend you're dead i think
you do need to i do i think you do need to break your stick i would love to know if there is a
player out there who fucks with their stick they they go out there and they're like this guy has
been slashing the dog shit out of me all game we have a power play i'm gonna go in front of the net
with a half broken stick
and I'm just going to let him break.
What do you,
what do you have to make a play?
You might.
Yeah.
What if you actually could score a goal,
man?
They're not going to jeopardize
playing the game
to get some penalty
that might not happen.
I would,
I would have a hard time
talking about that.
I would have a hard time.
You don't think.
Yeah.
But like a lot of the guys
in the league are not known
for their abundance of smarts.
So I wouldn't be surprised
if it's been that,
that is off.
I think,
no,
I don't think that.
No way.
No way.
All right.
I'm going to have a DM by the end of the day telling me about a time it happened.
It's plausible, but I don't think it's happened.
I bet it has.
All right, Tyler Myers.
Tyler Myers.
I regret staying on that.
Ian Cole, Tyler Myers, and who got the major penalty?
Ian Cole was supposed to get the major penalty, and he did.
And what you can do with major penalties is you can review them and change them.
What happened in Vancouver was strange because they reviewed the penalty.
ian cole was taken out of the box tyler myers was given five in a game i believe he was and
ian cole's penalty was downgraded to nothing now which i didn't know you were allowed to do for a
i don't believe that you are so dan riccio of sportsnet 650 in vancouver said on ice he took
its rule 20.6 on ice video review of major penalties referees shall review all plays
that result in the assessed major penalty
for the purpose of confirming
or modifying the original call on the ice.
Such reviews will be conducted exclusively
by the referee on the ice
in consultation with other on-ice officials
as appropriate using technology, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Is Toronto involved?
Communication between the Situation Room, Toronto,
and the on-ice official shall be limited to contact
between the appropriate game logger
and the Situation Room and the referee
to ensure the referee is receiving
um any video that they might request there shall not be any other contact with the situation room
the referee shall have the following options after a video review of his own call one confirming the
original major major penalty two reducing his original major penalty to call a lesser penalty
or three rescinding the original major penalty altogether so he can take the in cold penalty
away see that what you can't do that must be an amendment tyler no no it was always the case when
they review they can take away or modify wasn't there something with nathan mckinnon though
like where he got high stick by taylor hall there was something
oh it was a double minor they were okay with this they could always take it away so they
what they can't do is the the thing that vancouver fans and tyler myers defenders are upset about
is you can't use the replay to get another call in there like you can't look at the replay and
be like oh he actually did this i'm gonna add that to the penalty and then call that one that's
that's against the rules so this is a very interesting debate because i we were gonna say
yes they shouldn't have been able to review it but they got it right i wish we were able to say
that they reviewed it and got it wrong no they got it right no they didn't no in cole absolutely
should have been given a penalty he should he hit him square in the numbers and like planted his
face in the dasher yeah but tyler myers also deserved the five and again yes but how while
watching so they obviously reviewed two incidents right the initial call was on ian call they
watched that and said actually that's nothing that's wrong that's just flat wrong i don't know
what footage they were watching if they need a stronger prescription you hit a player that far
from the boards in the numbers face right into the dasher you're wrong that's a penalty tyler
myers i mean that's like a spinning flying mma elbow but what is ironic about that is i don't
you know who i don't think regrets getting the five minute major tyler myers why his team won
the game anyway that's number one number two because he got the five in a game i think that
is what resulted in him getting a five thousand dollar fine instead of a suspension which would
have cost him more money if he doesn't get penalized there i think he's given a one game
suspension for elbowing that's fair probably but i don't know where they this is how hard it is to
draw a five on three yeah it's a tied game eight minutes left five on three and you're in vancouver
that's a tough call to make but it would have been the right one but those are clearly two
infractions i the ian cole one i don't know like it i guess it's a penalty but it's not that
egregious i think it should be two minors honestly it should at least be two minors i'm saying
Myers I mean that's an elbow
You gotta call an elbow
Ian Cole just kinda he's trying to
The puck is there
Like there's a Columbus Blue Jacks player on the ground
And Ian Cole
You can illegally check a player who has the puck
Ian Cole's going for the puck
He's straddling the player on the ground
He pushes the player to the boards
In his numbers Jesse
Yeah but it's not a hit
That's my thing about it
He has his hit
It's a shove
That's a hit
that's a shove there's a difference between a body check and a forearm shove okay but the point
is they can't call a penalty on the replay they have to call it in the game yes yes and i know
jesse what you're gonna say here which is what you said downstairs which is they got it right
in the end well steve doesn't think that's that's kind of what we're sitting on here steve doesn't
even think they got it i think they got it wrong twice yeah it should have been two minors which
is like i could if yeah if you think this is the in cool thing should have been a minor which like
i can see definitely i think it's more of a shove in the back then like he didn't hit him it wasn't
that dangerous um the tyler myers one i think is is the correct call here let's meet in the middle
if that's the first period that's 100 penalty maybe come on it's the time in the game yeah
the time in the game matters so then so then this is the issue again with the nhl not being
transparent is they've now actually breached their own rule like just like there's no way
Whether they got the call right or wrong is really, that's a debate.
They literally didn't follow their own rule book.
Yeah.
And though, just like with the Leafs thing that happened the same night,
you have a get out of jail free card.
The Leafs won their game where there was a call that fans were upset with.
And the Canucks won in overtime.
They won their game where there was a call that fans were upset with.
so you got two fan bases that are a little grumpy with you but they won so they're willing to listen
so then release some sort of two minute warning nba style thing explaining just explain
explain did you what if what if we just didn't though what if we just uh because you'll forget
about it by next week yeah because it's deeply bitterly irrelevant i like all i ever asked we
simply don't respond to your request for a comment hey uh i i give you my time and money um can you
help yeah and you know what when i haven't responded to you in the past you've continued
to give me your time money so it's like the south park's like oh no you don't like your
oh you can't yeah it's terrible the nhl go fuck yourself uh like it was sean corrali was okay
right after getting spinning back
fisted in the face no his nose
was leaking like a faucet it did
slightly rearranged he didn't leave
like he's not out for any amount
of time right he's not injured
no but I'm sure that was a loud
ass sleep I've slept
with a broken nose it's just like those
things affect the call you know
so I feel like I
mean I think both players were cut
weren't they Corral it was Justin
Danforth is the one that Ian Cole knocked over
from behind but she slightly shoved into the boards yeah all right um uh lastly uh uh alex
forminton uh turned himself into police yesterday um his lawyer released a statement uh saying
asking people to wait for the facts blah blah blah um we're gonna get a press conference on
monday february 5th uh from the london police elliot friedman uh made a really good um observation
yeah the london police said they anticipate they anticipate on february 5th so it may not be and
people are like saying well is he the only one that's turned himself in you can turn yourself
in 24 7 i believe so it could be people that went in at like 3 a.m you never know uh he just
happened to go during the day and the reason i say blah blah blah is when we have lawyers
representing uh they have their they have their opinion that they're getting out there or whatever
and if we're going to let this play out in court then i'm not going to need to repeat the media
statement from the lawyer who has a definite interest in defending the client fair enough
uh frege talked about this on um on hockey night this is gonna take oh it's gonna be a long time
so much longer than anyone wants um and like one of the one of the things i hadn't even thought
about is like so we've already established that the justice system does not work on the nhl schedule
yes players could be subpoenaed as witnesses who knows when well usually it can be like a year
from charges filed for for you even to get like a court date like it and especially in ontario
where there is no jumping the line because it's a high profile case the cases are processed at
the rate that they're processed at so um this could be a long long time before anybody even
sees a day in court if they do they may never go to court you may never find out like and you have
to prepare yourself for that because what can happen in these situations is people can plead
out they can strike deals like you you have to be prepared for the fact that uh the justice that
you're looking for um is is not going to be apparent to you you're not going to see it the
same way um you know it's not i hate to bring it down to this level it's not like law and order
where it's like oh they're arrested oh they're in they're in they're in court the next day oh
we figured it out boom done 60 minutes like it's it's got to be this is going to be a long
drawn out thing especially if even if two or three of these guys go to court are they going to be
tried together no they're going to be probably tried separately and then all that you just don't

the steve dangle press conference let me uh fire up the old discord server
first question comes from uh jesse what do you guys think about the super bowl matchup
we're getting chiefs again and this time the 49ers oh man it's more like the 49ers versus the
the 23ers is this isn't that taylor swift's number that she always talks about i i think
actually it's worth no no let's pause on my good joke no i think it's worth mentioning uh
jesse's tweet from yesterday what 32 uh jesse what did you team her number's 13 yeah no why
is her number 13 is that kelsey's number fucking number man i don't i really don't think it
matters here but it does for jesse tell us about the bet that you that you placed on august 10th
2023 no i placed i tweeted at drew on august 10th that they'll be chiefs and niners in the super
and then the night of the first game of the nfl season i placed a super bowl uh bet that the
super bowl matchup would be niners and chiefs and i nailed it five dollars and he gets 114 95 back
it was about 24 to 1 yeah that's really good three to one pretty good i've never done that
before were you sweating it out during that detroit game yeah oh my god fucking they're
down by 17 a half time like how can i not think they're gonna they're gonna lose this i was
talking i was thinking about hedging so i was thinking about betting the lions to win so then
either way i get money either i win the long-term bet or i win the um or i win the lines bet but i
was like no i'm just gonna ride this out i believe in the niners they're the best team in the league
um so yeah it was it was pretty cool to to nail that i've never done that before
it's uh it was it was a crazy set of games yesterday like really really good a lot of fun
now do you think that the super bowl because sometimes the super bowl can be the worst game
of the playoffs do you think that the super bowl is going to be good or bad drew what are your
thoughts yeah this matters like should we just switch these no i think it'll be a good game i
think it'll be a game i think san fran's looking for revenge which means uh and the whole world's
cheering against my homes so yeah it'll be fun man the mahomes like the heel turn is it was quick
it was quick what happened um the their netflix show called quarterback it came out over the
off season and it made me like fall in love with mahomes work ethic and who he is as a gamer and
and it's like his family and everything and it was awesome and then the season starts and he has
this moment where where he's he's complaining about the refs and and he's a bit of a baby in
the moment because of uh i don't know if you guys remember the cadarious tony he was a wide receiver
and he lined up offside and took away a giant play that would have won the game for the chiefs and
yes in that moment after that he was a giant petulant child to the referees and to the media
and everything oh i do remember and at that moment is kind of where i marked the heel turn for my
holmes because everybody was on him about that you can't be doing that even in the you know when
the the two quarterbacks meet at at at the 50 yard line and they have their moment with the cameras
even then he was talking to josh allen who was playing at the time he's like that call by the
rest and everything it's like come on what's josh gonna say right what do you what are you doing
okay yeah it felt like after that there was a large swell of people who were waiting in the weeds
for him to do something wrong because they already secretly hated him and they've been winning so
much so how can you not hate them they all came out of the woodwork and since then it's been
chiefs against everybody and nobody wants them to do anything plus taylor swift and travis kelsey
which i mean like whatever you don't like your music i i i found it funny the first the first
day i brought it up on this show because it was it was like oh my god she's in the stands remember
that i got so many people messaging me going like don't ever talk about that again don't you ever
bring up taylor swift at a football game again you're wrecking my peace and i was like okay
wow relax and and like it's just gotten bigger like i wonder how they're doing it's only gotten
you guys okay yeah they say that taylor swift being at that game has given the nfl the equivalent
of 350 million dollars in free advertising dude i i got uh my first glimpse of the effect
yesterday what's that my wife wanted to watch the game who she cares even less about football than
i do and she's like why do people hate patrick mahomes and so i said to her let me text drew
i texted it through it was like why do people hate patrick mahomes and then he
took me down the whole lore the whole folklore if you will this is from uh stinkface mcpoop
lightning who always has great questions they do they really do what's the past tense of the word
glow glon glow glen do you need it i'm gonna say glen why would you glow
i think it's glow isn't it it's glowed glowed glowed is not a word no way is glowed a word no
g-l-o-w-e-d i think glue no that light glue no i think it's how you it's the words around it right
it's the you know it it used to glow right past tense no he's right it would glow
steve's right about we have an answer it's glowed yeah no that light glowed it's literally a word
we have an answer for this i don't think i've ever rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose and if you ever saw it you would even say it glowed glow it's glowed
not glowed it's glow you didn't say i was close yeah even say because it's nose and glows glow
shit it's not glowed it's glowed oh it says the diction what is what did you google
the past tense of glow it says glowed when writing glow in the past tense you
wow load you would even say i don't know man glowed is what you say when you're
when you sing the song and you're wrong which i do apparently
thanks for the question wow okay that's a good question stink face mcpoo lightning
the crazy adam was very convinced that glowed isn't a word yeah it just doesn't sound right
like when you just drop it in to your brain it's like no this doesn't fit load you thought i meant
like g-l-o-d-e or something no ed yellow ed glowed glowed it's weird english language man
all right last one weather scan enthusiast

aka not steve netflix is doing a drive to survive style doc with nascar that's coming out this
tuesday i did not know that uh there's a trailer i want to know adam and jesse will you give it a
shot hell yeah absolutely it's called full speed yeah i loved listen man i've loved all the ones
that they've done with all the other sports although they haven't worked out as well i loved
the golf one i love the tennis one i haven't seen the football one which i should quarterbacks
awesome quarterbacks awesome okay um yeah i'll my dad like i grew up watching nascar with my dad
absolutely like i did yeah i my dad was like i was a huge richard petty fan i had a bunch of
richard petty cars um but i and i think my dad was like a tony stewart guy but like i haven't
watched nascar properly in 15 16 years so i don't know anything about what's going on now and and to
be honest with you it it um it went through a bit of a lull and now i think it's making a bit of a
comeback if but it did have its its struggles for a bit all i know about it is uh that video of the
guy who's like i've been drinking since 6 a.m and the cars go real fast and real left fuck yeah
um netflix is also doing a documentary on the nba similar to the quarterback series they're doing
one with that's let me give you these names all right lebron james is gonna be in it jason tatum
jimmy butler anthony edwards and demonta sabonis so all those guys are already confirmed to be in
their netflix version of quarterback show and that brings me to the final question where the
hell's the end hl on this because we got nfl selling we got the nba now we got tennis we got
f1 we got nascar we got golf it'll be a part where the hell's the nfl when they buy the rights in 20
months or whatever it is um i honestly i i think the nhl doesn't want it um and i and i know that
because the leafs didn't want it amazon prime wanted to do a second season with the leafs and
And the Leafs didn't want it because not everything in there is going to make you look good.
And I think that the NHL is a league that loves control.
Imagine if they look bad.
The NHL is a league that loves control over everything.
And if you're going to do these series, the thing about the Netflix doc, especially the first two, three seasons of Drive to Survive, is that it is completely uncontrolled.
You're seeing shit that you're like, wow, because they're trying to sell the sport.
and and the nhl i don't think wants to sell it that way they believe their way is superior
i watched a video that was i think it was brazilian and it was these people playing
basically table tennis with a soccer ball okay and they were kicking it yeah and i was
looking at it going why isn't this bigger and i realized that's how most people view hockey
niche and irrelevant what's it called teakball or something i saw that is that i don't think
i've seen it yeah i saw that video too like viral i think most sports fans look at hockey the way
we look at like battle bots but here's the please i don't think so
i don't think nhl's on the hockey's on that level it is regional and niche when you compare it to
the worldwide sports but i'll say this i'll say battle bots and the like number one sport in the
winter olympics yeah more people no it's not yeah no it is no no the gold figure skating the gold
medal game in men's hockey ends the winter olympics for a reason it's the biggest game
it's the biggest drop and then it ends it in canada no it does end it no like it's
comparing it to battle boss is a little disrespectful yeah i think i think i think
it's a funny it's a funny comparison though i did enjoy that i'll say this here's where i think the
nhl is at and here's where i think it's going um i think what the nhl has that not every sport can
claim is they have an entertaining product pretty much top to tail especially now that they got rid
of the red line it's never been better and uh and they got rid of the neutral zone trap and they got
rid of the clutch and grab and all the shit that was slowing it down so the product is there that
will grow things if you want to accelerate growth you're going to need to change the leadership at
the top and you're not getting that for at least another three and a half years because gary signed
that extension 18 months ago what happened 18 months ago what i see let's not get let's not
i know we've we've relitigated that a million times horribly what i see is if anybody is a
fan of formula one like i am formula one in north america was a niche sport it was it was doing on
tsn it was doing 250 300 000 viewers on a saturday morning sunday morning whatever it's now up to
six seven eight hundred thousand what happened well bernie ecclestone who said who has famously
mentioned that you know hitler had some good ideas uh publicly christ really yeah go look that up
oh my god i won't um bernie ecclestone who every time he talks i'm like yeah i'm glad he's not
running this sport anymore sold it to liberty media liberty media said hey wouldn't it be cool
if we cracked the american side of things wouldn't it be cool if we sold the sport because
formula one was a very elitist sport you had to have money you had to know the right people and
you better you better pay homage to bernie ecclestone if you don't you're in trouble you
will not last what does that sound like and so nothing good as soon as as soon as the leadership
changes now i get it bernie ecclestone owned formula one he owned it the owners own the nhl
as soon as that changes and you get somebody with a little bit it doesn't have it's not going to be
some rapid crazy change it's going to be somebody like adam silver who comes in and he slowly
creates you know uh oh i've got a power base here i got a power base there i'm going to do this oh
and it's going to work and i'm going to do this small thing and it's going to work in this and
then he's going to build slowly he or she whoever runs the league next it's got to take a a leader
at the top to change before this is going to change but i do think hockey will be slot fired
out of a slingshot fast in terms of growth especially in the southern united states as
soon as they learn how to sell it properly genuinely hope you're right i think i think i
am right i think i am right because again it comes back to the product nobody goes to a hockey game
and goes yeah that was shit i hated that dude it's so good exactly it's so it's like going to
basketball game no one goes to basketball game goes man this isn't entertaining at all live
basketball it's amazing right so you go and you're like oh my god these athletes are crazy like this
is insane and so i think i think long term the nhl is going to be fine it's just we're at the
end of one era of you know the emperor's getting old and his ideas are stale and it's time for a
regime change and we'll see how that happens i love that optimism adam that's how i feel good
i love hockey love it but not when it's edmonton oilers hockey no i prefer not to cover the oilers
Or Alberta hockey.
Oh, yeah.
At all.
No, Vancouver too.
No.
Vancouver too.
And you know what else?
I hate people with big trucks who work hard and get up early.
I hate them because of where I'm from.
You know what?
While we're at it, what nice things does anybody have to say about the state of Arizona?
Oh, absolutely nothing.
Redeemable qualities.
One day I'm going to get to stop talking about it.
Let's hit the extra because we, we have got to go because we got more shows tomorrow.
And one hockey game tonight.
And by the way, I read the headline for the write-up for it.
And they're like, don't expect sparks at tonight's Senators-Preds game.
Don't expect sparks.
Must watch, must watch TV.
Who's representing those teams?
I don't know.
At the Ulster.
I guess we'll find out.
See you later.
Tomorrow.
