Starting point is 00:02:05 time in eight in a shutout without matthews that's crazy and silly here's what i like you I just want to drop a stat on you. I'm going to drop this stat on your lap. Okay, you ready? If you're a non-Leaf fan, you need to understand how bad this power play was. Going into last night's game, the Leafs had four goals in 42 opportunities on the power play.
Starting point is 00:02:25 I'm surprised it was four. Yeah, it was about 10%. Garbage. Trash. I hate it. What? Then, in one period, the second period, they got 50% of their season total.
Starting point is 00:02:37 They got two goals. Woo! And then one more in the third, bringing their season total in goals scored on the power play to seven total goals on the power play. That's crazy. That's ridiculous. That's crazy. That's so many goals.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Here's another crazy one for you. Five on five this year. Anthony Stullers has a 9-5-8 save percentage. He has stopped 182 of 190 shots. Sustainable. Why not? Why not? Why not?
Starting point is 00:03:01 The amount of time the Leafs spend in the box, they are penalized three times a period at this point. I think that's completely sustainable. he's rarely at five on five you know what you're right yeah you know what just freeze it for the rest of the year it's basically what it's going to be the refs had very quick whistles last night oh yeah and i think it was for a reason they just didn't want things to get out of hand so they called literally everything and it led to a million power play opportunities for the leaf so i'm happy that the leafs got to practice so much of their power play last night good the the refs just kept
Starting point is 00:03:32 giving them opportunities and they kept getting a chance to work on it it was really good 15 minor penalties called last night yeah that's too much that's too much that's too much for a hockey game that's a lot was it really yeah it was it was like every single second there's a damn penalty and there was there was a couple like offsetting so not all of those were like power plays or whatever but still uh i do want to say that uh i love the leafs getting one over on on charlie mcavoy uh nothing makes me happier than charlie mcavoy who's laying the body uh in that one yeah no he rocked mcmahon pretty good i haven't liked charlie mcavoy since he came into the league and was instantly good and shit kicked the leafs yeah so i can't if i love if he was on my team i would
Starting point is 00:04:08 love him but i cannot i cannot love charlie mcavoy right now you know what's funny what we never uh like we always banter off the top like we never just get right in no this is worth getting right into well because i had the thing what do we have i had a thing that i wanted to do shoeless joe no i'm saving it i'm saving it you're saving it i'm saving it so should i show everyone the lovely thing oh sure you can so if you want to not talk about the leafs and talk about whatever thing i just want to take a break oh savor it yeah i think steve was anticipating the banter so he could show off whatever he wants to show off and he's thrown off that he can't do it sometimes it's better to just get right to it and he can't go with it to not do it yeah i can't do it because now there's
Starting point is 00:04:49 this thing in front of me couldn't wait 20 minutes for the leaf segment to be over and we couldn't wait 20 no talk about you know later how difficult that is for me it's like a smudge no no no we'll talk about we won't talk about the leaf shutting out the bruins for the first time in a couple years not winning a game against bruins at home for the first time in a couple years yes let's talk about the picture frame well i met someone in london named edward nardini and uh they actually won the bronze medal for uh most italian in oh that's cool yes uh in 2019 i don't know how they won gold and silver uh that would be mario badabuchi and uh penne alla vodka uh they gave me a picture uh called three handsome gentlemen and i just thought you guys would like to see that
Starting point is 00:05:37 i think it's a great picture wow they uh there's jesse smiling adam smiling and me yelling yelling very loud so we will yeah there you go i do have a bit of a it looks hotter that's a very good drawing is it a drawing uh like yes it's a it's a sketch i believe a sketch it's really that's a beautiful sketch very good i can see why you were distracted yeah i was distracted and i wanted to show everyone and uh that's how happy we were when the leafs won for nothing transition back into the top ah that's great i'm so glad we got there you couldn't just wait nope couldn't do it it was sitting in front of me i couldn't do it couldn't do it so i i want to i want to talk about a couple of things too many penalties too many penalties here wait no here's a list of other
Starting point is 00:06:25 things we received um someone gave a cider yeah someone gave uh weed uh-huh which was surprising uh someone gave me a hat okay oh what is there something you want to know yeah there is he's waiting for you to cut a program trying to try to go back to the leafs power play which is kind of a story here yeah no i had a fun time in london uh least power play what do you want to talk last week at this time was at 8%. Actually, it was at 7.9. Yeah, while I was
Starting point is 00:06:55 rounding up. Well, they could use the roundup. I'm rounding up here as well. It's 14.9, but the least power play is now at 15%. Below the Ducks. Below the Blue Jackets. Right, but above the Oilers. Wow. Wow. Above
Starting point is 00:07:11 the Bruins. Above the Wagon Capitals. Below the Sharks. Dude, when do I drop Ryan Nugent Hopkins? holy cow uh i'm surprised you picked him up yeah i drafted him dude he was great he's like ranked 400th on yahoo but like my brain won't let me drop him because it's friggin nuge wow yeah no i i i think you should do something smart like go pick up connor mcmichael or dylan strome that that is true fantasy like imagine no no don't get someone who's on like the oilers first unit don't get don't get connor mcmichael you know what no ovi's on on pace for 40 goals definitely don't get the
Starting point is 00:07:45 center that's passing to him damn yeah he's him and and the other winger too um you know listen it's a it's below the blue jackets it's below the ducks uh it's below the kings it's below some other teams that it really shouldn't yeah san jose's actually got a much better power play i just wanted to say those teams to just emphasize that there's room for the leafs to grow here well anytime you're fixed okay but not throw the parade no i will throw the parade they jumped from 30th or 31st to 26th imagine what they could do in the next game in one game one game guys i think that's listen that's so few we got to take our wins here and it was one and i think more than the bruins thing which we will get to and it is important them having success on the power play
Starting point is 00:08:30 uh clearly illustrates one thing which is austin matthews needs to be traded And he was holding the back. No, I'm kidding. It illustrates that there are players on this team that can step up. I think over the intermission, TSN had the, who's the alpha dog when Matthew's out? And nobody said William Nylander. And I'm shocked by it.
Starting point is 00:08:51 People are like, well, it's on the ice. It's Marner in the adjusting room. It's Tavares. I'm like, no, guys, it's the leading scorer on the team. The guy who's playing out of his mind, playing strong defensive hockey. jesse you were there and you've been quoted a bazillion times for the berube quote about willie yeah oh yeah what do you have to say no willie with a potential reporter jesse blake berube was so complimentary about willie like it was an obvious question to ask like okay willie's been
Starting point is 00:09:19 standout performance but like how you feeling about his overall game and the fact that he went into like willie's a great offensive player like we know he can score but he's also been great defensively everyone's like oh we got a coach complimenting willie's defensive skills like that it felt like it meant a lot it felt like being alive it felt like a growth and development of not only willie milander as a player but just the narrative around this player's career like we finally got to the point where we can say yeah this dude right now is the star and the player and he's playing a 200 foot game and not to like disparage the other two guys in his line but like if not him then who like patch already has adjusted his game but like still it's like a
Starting point is 00:10:00 it's a grinder sort of thing people sort of associate yeah if you're banging and crashing you're the defensive guy that's not really the case no patch already's been around this league for so long yeah like the amount of the players you can go back to who he's played with we can't expect him to be that on this team right like a star like you know he's he's scored at 30 goals a bunch of times never been a selkie candidate i don't think no um but you know still a really good player john tavaris you know is he gonna buzz up and down the ice no not really he's gonna do good things he's gonna make the right plays it's got to be willie and he had a ton of the puck marner had a friggin unreal game um defense had a friggin unreal game i want to keep it to willie
Starting point is 00:10:43 though keep it to willie for a sec because i do want to talk marner who is now the team leader in points whoa uh but willie willie's got 10 goals in 14 games that's so many guys on guys on pace for over 50 goals well over he's tied for the league lead right is it is it league lead yeah i don't know i'm pretty sure he's the league leader had 10 as well he's got to be up there i said it so i'll look it up i'll look it up you guys keep going but my point in all this is saying listen um i think it's time yeah he's tied with cole caulfield nico he's sure sam right hearted nikita kucherov with 10 goals wow and wow uh and listen he was very very good last year very very good last year especially to open the season sweden he hit a gear i didn't know he had and
Starting point is 00:11:25 and so now i look at this guy and i go okay this guy's a winger who can drive a line which is so much rarer than a center who can drive a line right it really is like people talk about patrick kane he was so special when he was at his best because he was driving the line not his line and he's never been known as a good defensive player no like he was awful but he had the puck all the time so don't worry about it so you got a guy who's got 10 goals and 14 games tied for the league league 15 points total driving his own line it's the second line on the team technically speaking right last night i would have called it first yeah but i mean when matthews is playing it's yeah yeah right quote unquote second line even though like brube loves giving them the
Starting point is 00:12:05 starting lineup position yeah like he'll throw out willie first and then so he can uh line match matthews against the quote second line so is he's so dangerous willie's kind of it's the first line If they're going out against the first line competition and Matthews gets the better matchup against the second line, like it's kind of the first line. He's also got over 40 percent of the Leafs power play goals this year. He has three. I think that's worth mentioning. And I think when it comes to William Nylander, now we're seeing what I think Babs and then more Keefe wanted to pull their hair out about. because this was a player that from time to time you needed to you know cattle prod him back into
Starting point is 00:12:48 reality a little bit right friggin scott hall bill goldberg wcw yeah exactly you needed to wake him up and it sounds like this year he came to camp completely awake and now he's asking for more ice time and he's showing he deserves it and i think that's he's good he's literally talking in the media about yeah i want more ice time well i love that and this is a superstar in toronto that wants four ice time i'm all for that are we are we not seeing like uh you know very small sample size so i'm not going to be smug about it but like there's a little cause and effect here don't you think like when when bruby talked about willie needing to earn his ice time some people really hated that because they're like dude it's william nylander what are you talking about willie was already
Starting point is 00:13:32 playing well like there hasn't been a moment this season where he hasn't been scoring and he's playing even better a couple of bad giveaways i think and i think that maybe limited things right yeah no it's yeah that that's been killing this team um they haven't really had a ton of games where they just got like completely outplayed um in well i mean columbus columbus where they shouldn't have even showed up boston but yeah in the well boston they got outplayed but that's a tight game it's a winnable game and you lost it in the moments yes right and one of those moments This is Willie frigging falling down and doing the splits, right? So, you know, if you had a good game,
Starting point is 00:14:12 but you made a really stupid play and it led to a goal against in a tight game, did you really have a good game? So this is, they need him to be a leader whether Austin is in the lineup or not. And he is. And this is, I think we still forget how young these guys are. Like Nylander is still, he's probably just approaching the halfway mark of his career 28 he might not even be there like
Starting point is 00:14:43 you know we we forget and Marner's younger than him and Matthews is younger than both of them sometimes we forget um there's an evolution here Mitch Marner is now the leading scorer on the Leafs with two goals and 14 assists he's had I think the last two games guys I think he's had two of the best games I've seen him play and and he could have had more points than he did yes he could have he could have and i think what's been great about him and we saw it uh against the minnesota wild on sunday night uh is he's not afraid to kind of mix it up now he's being a bit of a dick about it yeah i like it and you know whereas in the past this team was actually discouraged from doing that right the reason these guys weren't doing it is because and babcock said
Starting point is 00:15:26 it years ago he said our revenge is our power play so when you get to the playoffs and they don't call penalties that becomes a bit of an issue right big flaw in the plan and then you also got a score on the power play which they also didn't do right now and again i'd like to see him score some more goals to be honest with you sure but i saw last night mitch marner the superstar that i have felt was a little bit off the last few i think to start the year he's been good i saw i think in the last week he's been great in the last three four days uh all three of those guys to start the season i think have been good with more to give like willie i think is scoring at a better clip than he was even last year and even him like just watching him night in
Starting point is 00:16:09 night out i'm like he's got more he's got more we're not pulling everything we can out of him i almost said pulling everything we can out of willie anyway like uh and matthew's the same obviously he's day-to-day with an injury and even marner but uh yeah like you said best couple games of the season jesse for mitch marner yeah um this is a guy that's had an awkward relationship with the media to say the least um this is a guy that has taken a ton of criticism and deserved uh for his playoff performances and you've seen you and i have seen so many playoff losses together it's silly uh because steve's always at home streaming and you and i go yeah and now now this is not a playoff game i get it it's game 14 but it's boston
Starting point is 00:16:56 you hadn't beat them beaten them in the in the uh eight times you played them before in the regular season mitch marner looked to me like a like a true star last night what were your takeaways being there not just from watching but being in the in the postgame scrums yeah no mitch mitch came out and talked to everybody too like those are the nights where you see he's at his happiest like he's he's somebody who feeds off of positivity he's definitely that type where it's like last night he looked really good getting the two assists and i thought the the best moment of the game there was when he sprung david comp for the breakaway shorthanded that was so good do you guys remember that i remember sitting there in the press box being like damn like what a what a great
Starting point is 00:17:38 kill that these two are having out there and he's definitely developed some chemistry with with um comp on the penalty kill i thought the penalty kill this year has been um really good and we kind of in a way underrate how valuable mitch marner is to the team because he he operates in every facet of the game you know he plays on the power play plays on the penalty kill and he plays five on five he's very important in all of those areas on the ice so a night like last night where he gets to excel in every facet of the game you really get to see all of his skills like that's when he's at his best and i i just hope that you find a way for the leafs to continue that momentum because when things get down obviously i feel like he gets down on himself
Starting point is 00:18:16 and his play gets down um in those in those instances so they need to find a way to create that environment when times are tough i need i i the whole fan base needs him to get comfortable having fun in the mud yeah yeah yeah when when games aren't easy you need to be able to play like this games when they're fun like last night marsh and i mean he's a little later in his career but you know definitely earlier in his career and still last night he headlocks uh Chris Tanev Tanev gets a penalty for the hit and then a penalty for roughing which was a phantom penalty and then the camera goes to Marchand in the box what's he doing he's smiling oh yeah it's fun to him Matthew Kachuk is a pig in shit he loves it and there's no reason Marna can't be that guy
Starting point is 00:19:04 you know everyone oh he's small he doesn't need to be Matthew Kachuk or Brad Marchand but he can enjoy it no like i mean kachuk's a big boy marner's not like small he's over six feet he's maybe small by any shell standards he's six foot or six one um about a buck 80 at this point in his career like there are like i've said this for years why can't you be travis connecting like in those moments you're a far better player than travis connecting but in those moments where there's an opportunity to be a bit of an asshole why can't you be him right right and if he develops he doesn't need to be him no if he develops an edge something i i think this league's in trouble i know those two never want to hear this conversation but i feel like it's a fair
Starting point is 00:19:55 conversation from the people on the outside looking in and i think there's a value in breaking up marner and matthews i am so with you on that like i am so with you on that they as as as a twosome want to play together sure they've talked they talk about extensively they feel like they're the best together and it's like their combo of knives on their line now is the perfect way to execute this team but i think there's a lot of value to this team when marner is on his own and gets to do marner stuff you know and gets to have the freedom to not always have to feed Austin and look for that pass because they know Austin's the big goal scorer so let's let's do that then because I think I think Willie Tavares patches they're gonna keep that together it's been
Starting point is 00:20:39 too good if like earlier the season like I'm kind of challenging Mitch like drive your own friggin line right okay let's let's keep that line together then let's keep Mitch Domi nice I don't think that's the greatest combination but let's do it i liked it last night i liked it last night sure and then who do you leave austin with that's the that is the it feels a little disrespectful if you're like hey austin your your line mates are david comp and who like who are we talking who's left over when robertson when he's healthy yarn croak and mcmahon it's not great yeah it's not the greatest like we can we can fiddle with it we can fiddle with it like robertson would be cool but i think he's more of a shooter than a playmaker yeah i don't know do robertson and
Starting point is 00:21:33 matthews fit i here's what i don't understand we all saw domi and matthews lighted up together at the end of last year why has everybody just magically forgotten how good that was this is you will not stop i will not stop and you shouldn't nor should you the best line they had last year was Bertuzzi-Matthews-Domi for that run. Who's the other winger? Yeah, this is the problem. Nice. So I'm not keeping Mitch with those guys.
Starting point is 00:21:56 If you want, I think you can run Domi with Matthews and McMahon or Domi with Nyes and Matthews. And then depending upon, if you want to have two really excellent players and then one that's more of a, I don't want to demean McMahon. Nyes has been an absolute monster. McMahon has been up and down. He's been up and down. But he's a guy that plays well with good players, right?
Starting point is 00:22:24 It's not easy to play well with good players. Yeah, that's fair. Domi's another guy that plays well with good players, plays up to that level. I look at this and I go, okay, so if you really wanted to, you can have – the issue is they need a third center. This is the problem. I'm fully on board with Domi on the right of Matthews, but right now – You need a third center.
Starting point is 00:22:47 They need him to play center. yeah and and so you know because the the problem is like unless fraser mitten like blows people's brains out in in uh yeah with the marlies i don't see that being the thing but i think if you could find who's the next ryan o'reilly i'm like great bless holmberg bless him he tries so hard every night not the guy for that it's not the guy for that role yeah like when he's back is it connor doer like i don't think so no i think that's so if i'm berube and i'm doing the line combinations i would probably land on matthews and marner and nize is probably my first line you know like it is it is definitely good enough for now but you're right like when we get down the stretch it's
Starting point is 00:23:30 it's not necessarily what i want to see but holy shit nice is playing so well nice is great yeah but i i love what i see for mitch when when he's away from austin that's me too good stuff he's he's willing to do more stuff jesse i think you're right i think he he uses his entire skill set someone asked me a question for the lfr we always get good questions for the lfr but like it's rare that one stops me in my tracks and i just went oh damn that is so good it's and it was pertaining to the power play but i think it also pertains to mitch is there a pressure on the power play to not look off austin matthews or is there a pressure on the power play to find him absolutely you can see it out there yeah there's got to be at least a split second when the puck is on your stick and
Starting point is 00:24:18 you have the opportunity to shoot should i find austin yeah and like what are the odds finding matthews is the wrong choice it's if you put the puck on his stick there's a real good chance it's going in the problem is it's difficult to put the puck on his stick because teams are like oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck keep it away from austin right and that has to trickle in to five on five and if you're mitch and or anyone on the team and you already are like shooting is an ability of mine but it's not my best one my best ability is as facilitator if i have the chance to pass or shoot especially when he's on the ice i'm passing yeah and like this isn't austin's fault i don't i wouldn't even say it's it's mitch's fault or anyone else on the power play riley who can
Starting point is 00:25:10 freaking fire the thing, Rister or Tavares or anyone who's on the ice with Matthews, there has to be a pressure of I should probably be passing it. This was from David Alter who spotted it on the TSN screen and when they're showing the game.
Starting point is 00:25:26 The Leafs have a 29% power play without Austin Matthews in the lineup. That's psychotic. Adam, where does a 29% power play rank in the league right now? I will pull that up on Quantosh. Just for your theory that they got to find austin when they have the power play it makes a lot of sense it'd be good
Starting point is 00:25:45 enough for between fifth and sixth right now the devils have a 30 percent and the rangers have a 28.1 percent by the way that's where the leaf should be yeah that's where they were last year when austin's not there but everybody else is there's probably a sense of like okay one of us is gonna score like we don't have a particular guy who's above everybody else trying to find the goal everybody's kind of equal so we're all working together because someone here's gonna score this is like they dude shoot it shoot it they think you're passing they don't think you're shooting shoot it yeah there's a sense of freedom i guess yes without austin yes and then you know what's gonna you know what's great okay i'm not as talented as austin i'm not gonna be able to
Starting point is 00:26:28 score holy shit let me let me tell you about these things called rebounds they're so crazy because if you don't score then you have this jeep of a human being named matthew nye's in front who can bang it in and tavaris can rush in there or whoever else is there's so much potential here there's no reason they should have been basement dwellers um or well i guess still are they're digging their way out um there's guys there's no reason for you to be this bad switch it up switch the amount of power play points and freedom other guys on the capitals have had during alex ovechkin's tenure is hilarious like he stands stock still every time for 90 seconds every time and you see him standing there calm as if he's sitting on the bench and guys are like but eventually they're
Starting point is 00:27:25 like okay i'm wasting my time covering this person yes and they go over to the others and then all of a sudden the puck is on his stick and it's in the fucking net so so to that point guys and this is where okay maybe you can't put domey matthews together uh on five on five max might never shoot again max shot last night he did yes because hold on though the staff has to stay on him yes shoot yeah and that's fine listen if you got to encourage a guy to shoot more that's not a bad problem especially he's got a good shot and he made some great moves last night that toe drag Oh, frig, if he scored that, that would have been the goal of his career. It was crazy.
Starting point is 00:28:00 And then what did he go, like, four and a half feet wide? Yeah. You've got to work on that. He hit the top of the glass on a wrist shot. Adjusted by four and a half feet, and it's in. But here's what I want to say. If you can't put them together on five on five, and I get that, you don't have the center depth.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Fine. Because Willie's not a center. We found out. Just got here. Hey. Until you get that third center, and I think they're going to, um you could try one of the power play units so so willie and uh willie and mitch on one power play unit austin and domi on the other nize on whatever one you want tavaris on whatever one
Starting point is 00:28:39 you want oel and riley on whatever one you want there's no there's like there's clear chemistry there i just i no one's talking about how much chemistry there was there's no reason that you can't like just you have the talent to just alternate what your power play is any given game you know how much that would screw teams up like this isn't it's the regular season it's not the playoffs they have way less time to prepare for their opponent so the odds of you in the middle of the regular season icing something that makes half the roster of the other team go what the like that they've never seen before this one i don't remember this in the video session um are way higher in the regular season you earn points you climb the standings you're already
Starting point is 00:29:24 playing for second because of the damn panthers but you could get home ice through at least the first round based off of just that i think there's also an element of like obviously the power play to end last year the final month and a half nearly two months of the regular season and the power play i think it's fair to assume they probably developed some bad habits in there well they were trying to get austin in 70th well there was that and and you saw what happened by the way when they kept trying to find him it it was bad they know and they know they didn't seem to be able to break that once that was not on the table anymore yes so that's bad habits so maybe what last night was was the beginning of them breaking those bad habits what was the the i mean the last point
Starting point is 00:30:18 matthews got before going down with injury was an assist on the power play and now it's a play that i not necessarily criticize but like i think it's a low percentage play like being able to feather that pass through to willie is not going to happen very often put it willie is a touch of death too like yeah what is mitch man mitch is a great shot i like willie's better but like i agree mitch is more than capable he scored at a 30 goal clip three times last year he scored at a 30 goal clip he just missed it but he only played 69 games right now he's scoring at like a 10 or a 15 goal clip yeah and that i don't believe that he's done this before i know but that's my point he's done where he started slow and he's not slow right no no no but he he starts slow and then all of a
Starting point is 00:31:09 sudden he gets like four or five goals in six games and you're like oh there he is there's another option and then once he becomes a a certified shooting threat in the minds of of defenses and penalty kills and goalies what do you prepare for you can't i tell you what riley firing that piss missile last night there's another option good snap you're allowed to do that too it helps you put it bar down when you have jesse can you bring up the picture i airdropped you yeah this photo made me burst out laughing when i was shooting the lfr last night there you Can you possibly pinch it and zoom in on what's going on in front of the net? What is Swayman supposed to do?
Starting point is 00:32:02 There's nothing he can do. What on earth is Swayman? Find him. Find him. Let's play where's Swayman. Put him in a red and white striped shirt and a toque and see if we can find... Is he one of the best goalies in the league or what? He is.
Starting point is 00:32:16 This is what I'm talking about. This is what I've been talking about. It's just Dirk, and he's the best goalie. What are you going to do? That's what you do. That's what you do. And by the way, for all three power play goals last night, Nyes was in front of the net.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Yes, he was. He caused all of them. In front of the net on this one, completely taking away Swayman's eyes. On the second one, he had Carlo tied up in front. Puck goes off Carlo and in. Didn't get an assist on it, but you know damn well he was the cause of the goal. And then the third one, he's parked in front of Swayman. He tips it in.
Starting point is 00:32:46 this kid doesn't play another game in the national hockey league not on the top power play unit for the rest of it for the next decade and a half even if he's 41 until he's older than we are currently that is his home and listen it's easier said than done okay playing in front of the net is very difficult six foot three 227 pounds of meat look at that what are you supposed to do what are you supposed to do have a horrible night is what you're supposed to do yeah worst case scenario you exhaust their decor and boston was down to 5d yeah that patch ready hit was interesting yeah and we'll talk about it but yeah we will you know they don't postpone the games do they no they don't they don't post but the leafs had to play
Starting point is 00:33:47 how many games last year where at least 75 of the game they had 5d oh well oh well oh you know what about tavaris and mitch and their few sign nyes figure out the rest later that your whether mitch or jt or both or neither are part of this team going forward i want this kid this kid on my team on my top power play unit he makes riley shot more deadly he makes every shooting option more deadly he makes a tip more deadly he makes the team more deadly this work ethic this just being a piece of shit in front of the net this is going to get you points in the standings this is going to win you playoff games this is going to win you as many things as you can win in the sport i love this guy i love this guy what a
Starting point is 00:34:48 nice guys i i what a nice guys i what hey there you go there's a show title there jesse don't even bother texting me uh nice guy nice guys all right this is uh like if if you're one of those people who's like i want a leaf jersey for christmas and everyone's got matthews and everyone's got martyr and everyone's got kneelander in it i'm getting nizer stallers do i spell nize g-i-e-s or guys g-i-e-s nize it should be it should be n-i-e-s no now you're that's yeah i don't think You need the N. No, that's even... It's a soft G.
Starting point is 00:35:29 No, it's more confusing. So no, you spell guys the normal way? Nies like Matthew. Guys. You don't think it's funnier if we went G-I-E-S? Well, now we have to. I want to say... Nies guys. No, do it your way.
Starting point is 00:35:45 Which one's funnier? No, yeah, let's go with nies gees. hey are you a hockey fan love my team yes me too of course you are you wouldn't be listening to us if you weren't but are you the biggest hockey fan in toronto well i think so but maybe someone else is well maybe you need to step up and prove it here is your chance there's a very cool prize up for grabs if you can prove this i like prizes yeah it was me too now we're partnering with 888 casino to bring this your way yeah absolutely there's uh two lower bowl tickets to toronto versus ottawa november 12th they could be yours okay if you want to win those tickets here's what
Starting point is 00:36:22 you got to do click the link in the description subscribe to 888 casino ca on youtube and comment on any of the casino videos telling us why you're the biggest hockey fan in toronto that's easy i can do that now it's the nation's capital versus the provincial capital you probably want to be there right yeah yeah just a bit just show us what kind of a fan you are 888 casino links in the description show us what you got sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and
Starting point is 00:37:07 their way around on that is like well it's a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well Hang on a second. What if I don't want to? I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing. The chemicals. You got to have the right chemicals. See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I used TaskRabbit and I employed a tasker.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Here's the thing. TaskRabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly, home repairs, lawn maintenance, mounting, window cleaning, all that stuff. Starting point is 00:37:52 Get $15 off your first task right now with the promo code DANGLE at TaskRabbit.ca or the TaskRabbit app. You should download that, TaskRabbit.ca, code DANGLE. Fellas, you probably have hair all over the place, don't you? Sure do. yeah what if there was one place that you could go to for hair removal stylishly at a really good cost well i don't know like like a hair salon it sounds like your balls new business on king west that's trying to capitalize on some untapped market yeah come here and we'll shave you yeah for way too much money you don't need to do that my ball you don't need to do no uh the
Starting point is 00:38:33 The Taj Mahals of male grooming is actually Manscaped. And we worked with Manscaped for years. And Christmas is coming up. It's a trimmer for the moneymaker and another for the boys downstairs. Get 20% off and free shipping with the code DANGLE, D-A-N-G-L-E, at Manscaped.com. That's 20% off and free shipping with promo code DANGLE at Manscaped.com
Starting point is 00:39:11 for the premium grooming experience. Trust Manscaped. Promo code DANGLE, D-A-N-G-L-E, Manscaped.com. All right, now, I want to talk about something else. Jesse mentioned it. We got into the Mitch Marder discussion, and I want to go back to it. The little flip play for Mitch Marder to David Kompf on the shorthanded. Good stuff.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Good stuff. Lane Lambert has this penalty kill looking pretty darn good. 86%. And I want to throw this at you because they are sixth currently in the NHL in penalty kill percentage, but they are second in penalties taken. And I want to show you the difference between what the Leafs are doing, and this has to stop. I don't know what they got to do, but it has to stop.
Starting point is 00:39:54 So the Rangers, who have the top penalty kill in the league, 92.3%. 39 penalties taken. The Preds, surprisingly, 38 penalties taken. They're at 92%. At 88.9%, the Flyers, 45 penalties taken. Okay, that's a slight uptick. The Dallas Stars, number four, 35 penalties taken, 88.6% kill rate. So basically, if you're in the mid-30s, you're about...
Starting point is 00:40:19 Mid-30s to 40s, right? Panthers, 38, 86.8%. And then the Leafs have killed, like I said, 86%. They've taken 57 penalties. holy fuck the only thing with the penalties taken number is that it balances out the other way because it's hockey that means that they get a lot of power play opportunities so i'm not too worried which is smart and good and everyone likes it well yeah the leafs have now but it is worth mentioning uh the boston bruins same thing jesse you're absolutely right 60 penalties uh uh serious
Starting point is 00:40:52 63 penalties taken 60 power plays the leafs though are tied for second with los angeles in this stat of course and they have taken as i said 57 penalties only got 47 power play opportunity it'll it'll even out do you want a heater of a take the least penalty kill is so good that it's part of the reason that the power play is so bad okay yep because that is a take let's go with it let's go with it the way the power play is tallied in the NHL is dumb because if I'm on the penalty kill and 30 seconds in to the penalty kill I do such a good job that I make the other team take a penalty which the Leafs penalty kill has done a bunch of times already this season um that means It's going to be four on four for the next minute, 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:41:46 And then we get a 30 second power play. If you go that 30 seconds without scoring on a 30 second power play, a quarter of a power play, you're all for one. That's how it's tallied. That's so stupid. And the Leafs, I don't know where they rank in the league, but it feels like almost every game they have an abbreviated power play. And I think it's part of the reason their numbers are so crap.
Starting point is 00:42:11 Now, they only have seven goals on the season. That's not good. They're still probably well into the back half. But I think something that's skewing their number is they probably lead the league in power plays that are under a minute. Wow. Is that a take or what? Yeah, maybe. I don't know how you find that stat.
Starting point is 00:42:32 That's an interesting stat. I don't know how you find that. It's part of the reason. I know. Now, there's another stat out there that skews it, because I think it was you, Jesse, you brought it up. You're like, the Leafs actually lead the league in power play time. Did I say that?
Starting point is 00:42:49 It was you or someone else I was speaking to. Maybe it was producer Drew, producer Hayden. I speak to like five people during the season. It's probably Bill. Oh, Bill. Fucking Bill. Producer Bill. Part of the reason.
Starting point is 00:43:02 That guy's a douchebag. You think producer Bill's a douche? Yeah. That's mean. i don't like them i don't like them and your days are freaking numbered bill frig off bill um what was i gonna say probably minutes part of the reason they lead is because they when they do get a full power play it's the full two minutes because they don't score right so just the way it's tabulated is very stupid yeah and refereeing in in the nhl isn't
Starting point is 00:43:33 it's game management and i feel like even if you take a lot of penalties or if you're on the power play a lot it all kind of evens out in the end it comes it's a wash perfect example is the tanev marshand thing so tanevs hit on pasta pasta does turn on a dime i don't think there's much tanev could have done it was all bad timing it was bad timing but you can't do it yes It's illegal, but it wasn't as a result of anything malicious. Two minutes. Two minutes. Marshan goes in there and tries to strangle Chris Tanev to death.
Starting point is 00:44:11 Unsuccessfully. Unsuccessfully. Ah, I lived. March. So what are the penalties? I see boarding. Two minutes. i see roughing two minutes served by ryan reeves two no no no no no no no no i'm talking about
Starting point is 00:44:35 what literally happened not what was called i'm talking about what happened in the real world in reality sure sure so tan have two for boarding can't do that marshan two for roughing can't do that Tanev two for roughing pardon pardon two minutes for getting strangled if they had called what happened Tanev two for your stupid and you can't do that Martian two for your stupid you can't do that they knock each other out and it it's over Leafs get a penalty Bruins get a penalty it's a wash I don't know if that's five on five or four and four whatever doesn't matter no team has a power play Tanev gets an extra two minutes because it just feels wrong right after that you know the whole thing happened because of the Tanev hit I'm gonna give the Bruins a power play anyway
Starting point is 00:45:34 what are we doing here that's made up bullshit I think I think Tanev if I remember correctly he deserved to get a roughing call. I thought he just got headlocked. He got strangled! Actually, on that one, I'm with Steve. I do think that was just the ref going, we're game managing here. We didn't really see it, so we'll just call it and be safe.
Starting point is 00:45:54 Let me throw one out there. If you try to strangle me and I punch you in the face, you deserved it and I get a free one. How about that? How about that? That's what I think it should have been. Now, I'm not going to overly complain about it because Leafs got three
Starting point is 00:46:10 power play goals i don't think any bruins fan has a tolerance for hearing a leaf and complain about the officiating last night um but yeah it's it's it's silly and made up i want to say something when it comes to the officiating that i thought was interesting uh jesse i sent you a text on this one this is the patch already hit on uh um andrew peak and what i thought was very interesting about this is peak is legitimately injured it looked like to me that he separated a shoulder or something like that. But it goes to show, and this happened later in the game too
Starting point is 00:46:40 with a Boston Drew penalty, that refs do not call the play. They call the reaction to the play. So Peek goes down here legitimately. But Steve always says, he's hurt. Steve always says, play dead.
Starting point is 00:46:54 Act like it, which he did not do. Peek is not doing that. But I think it's illustrative that when Patrick, the ref is right there. He sees the hit. The hit's completely clean.
Starting point is 00:47:04 and they call the five because they're like well we can rescind the five if we call the five it reminded me of uh the namaskov one from i think it was the jets game like his head hit the glass yeah but like it wasn't like i i thought they called the result and not the actual hit and i think that's what they do because i think that's human nature that was a very clean hit there was nothing about that hit that's not clean and i think if you're going to if you're the leafs and you want to get on the power play a little bit more this is instructive of what you need to be doing because and it's not not getting injured again andrew peak did not fake this i get i get it but the referee's reaction to it is really interesting because they instantly give patch
Starting point is 00:47:46 ready the five minutes so they can look at it and call it back and if peak doesn't go down here that is not called at all right that is that that is a normal hit that happens every game so here let me let me ask if i if i have this right so last night i wasn't sure and i got my answer so if you call five you can downgrade it to two or nothing they can review it and downgrade it to two or nothing if you call four you can only downgrade it to two correct and if you call two you can't downgrade what is that i think that's so silly it's the uh adam you watch football yeah like every so every turnover in the nfl now is automatically reviewed so referees now call everything a fumble so that if it wasn't the fumble they can take it back right so i feel
Starting point is 00:48:36 like nhl refs are now using the five minutes to do the same thing we might as well call the big penalty so that we can go look at it and get it right which i don't mind zero problem with that yeah i i don't either i think it does interrupt the play but it does but i get it um it was annoying with the flow of the game but that's not really the point i'm trying to make that's it's a major play in the game though i think you need to get it right the point i am trying to make here is that the referee in this situation saw a player down on the ice and said let's just call the five minutes and see what happened and that is a normal ass hit if peak doesn't get hurt here there's no call there's no whistle play continues and i think that is something that you know nhl
Starting point is 00:49:16 players nhl teams need to understand that's how that's with human nature when you get hit look at the car accident afterwards you don't look at asking you if you get hit to get hurt to pretend to get hurt and it works for guys man it works for guys all the time but he was actually hurt but he was actually hurt he wasn't no no it wasn't fake adam is making the point that they call the result right right they're calling the results or they call the result or what it appears to be so on this one they called the result but they will also in other instances other than this one call what it appears to be i agree with you but i don't want to advocate for diving oh but that's what they're doing i mean man what happened are you trying to win or what
Starting point is 00:50:02 who dove last trying to win or what pretty obvious i think it was mcavoy or was it there was a pretty obvious dive there you show me a stanley cup champion i'll show you a diver nice one where he got i think it was pasta on the hands and pasta like fell over yes yeah that was that should have never been called no and in pasta's defense nothing's going right and it looks like you hate your job no it was like maybe it was domey who got him in the hands whatever whatever the one was my point is the refs usually don't call diving unless they don't like you yeah unless they yes if you have lost the referee's respect and you think you're trying to clown them yeah then then they're going to call you for diving every time other than that
Starting point is 00:50:43 they don't call it or you're adam fantilli that one weird time i don't even know what you're talking about i'm not he yeah i cannot remember adam fantilli that one weird time no no he so he we talked about this last year it was a big thing it was um he he freaking he got like tripped or something and then he goes to the ref he's like no like nothing happened it's it's okay and the ref was like what f you and gave him a unsportsmanlike and he's just sitting there in the blocks like what i was trying to be a good guy i don't remember that yeah and the ref's like then let me see your phone yes they did that didn't drive two and a half hours and go home hungry stopping at arby's on the way home he'd shit little so you're how do you're advocating for
Starting point is 00:51:26 diving i'm advocating for be aware of how the referees are calling things be aware of that i think you need to be aware of it i'm not i'm not saying you should dive i'm saying it's it's very clear that human beings call the results rather than the no adam's getting this wrong what is it what am i telling adam improve my point of view you never ever ever ever dive in november ah you save that for the spring good point good point you don't build up a reputation in the regular season so that it fails you in february march and april that's what michael bunting did that's exactly what michael bunting did if that's the way you if that's what you got to do to win games in this league like that's if first of all it's sad that it's gotten to that point but
Starting point is 00:52:13 like if you have to i guess it's more embellish which is also a penalty embellishment they don't like you which they call once every six months right and then they'll like be a week where they really decide to call it and then it'll go away so but if you need to be because i feel like the boston bruins are really good at this you know embellishing calls if you got to be that person to get the calls like then yeah you got to do it can i introduce you to a little team called the florida panthers can i interest you to a little team called about 10 15 years of penguins hockey can i introduce you to dude all the good teams do it successfully hey the bruins are good at it too they're great at it yeah that's why they also have the leafs
Starting point is 00:52:55 number up until last night for a long long time because of it i feel like it says more about the state of refereeing in the league i agree but it's hard since there's no political will at the top to do anything about it you got to play within the rules you're given right i still love the idea of an eye in the sky guy just getting on the walkie talkie going no not that one the nfl has it and it's awesome i agree like hey i think they call it replay assist you know they just have a guy who's just like yeah no fix that and they'll take it they'll take it away you know it's instant because he's just watching tv it's i don't know why every league just doesn't have this i don't know you've never looked for a set of keys that you were holding like it's i'm not that observant
Starting point is 00:53:35 like so sometimes i miss shit that happens right in front of me we can fix it within five seconds yes and it is a fast game and these are human beings and they are going to miss things if the idea is to get it right as i've said either move to computers or do what jesse just said yeah have somebody's eye in the sky take one of the officials off the ice because we don't need that many bodies on the ice that's your number one thing right oh we don't need that many bodies in the ice too many people it's too many people a lot of people there's way too many people on the ice you need one linesman with what computer technology has now with with uh with regards to you you mentioned tennis right you you know if the listen you could have an automatic offside thing instantly yeah i

Starting point is 00:57:06 okay yeah are you late to therapy uh are you do you ever show up late or call late i don't know how you go with that between me and my health care practice ah yes okay i cannot reveal yeah but what i can tell you is you can take off the mask and feel better with better help visit betterhelp.com slash sdp today to get 10 off your first month that's better help help.com slash sdp uh yeah anyway we can move on from that uh since we're on the topic of diving the nashville predators hopes oh my god uh this morning barry trotz was on a local radio station and he said if we don't get it going then i'm going to start our rebuild plan four seven and one start they spent 120 million dollars in the
Starting point is 00:57:51 offseason i don't believe him but no he is upset and he should be there's no youtube concert to take away this is his youtube concert but it's small aside on barry trotz and the leafs um he's the reason that the leafs have lane lane lambert because craig berube uh last night he was complimenting the penalty kill and he said he talked to barry trotz uh about lane lambert and trotz recommended that the leafs hire lambert because he's such a big lambert guy and that's the reason now that the leafs have him for his penalty kill so you're just talking penalty kill talk about barry trotz just want to connect those two and you can go ahead you ever been wrong i have uh lane lambert's been uh that that penalty kill looks great it really does um especially
Starting point is 00:58:33 with the amount of penalties they're taking uh do you want me to do the lane lambert thing did you not already do it i've done it before it's always good to remind people okay uh predators 2011-12 season to the 2013-14 season under lane lambert goals against uh 15th shots against 13th okay middle of the pack when he was with the capitals from 2014-15 until 2017-18 when they won the cup goals against second in the league shots against sixth penalty kill sixth which i believe is exactly um uh what the leafs are right now goals for fourth asterisk because vegas didn't play all the seasons in there but they're in there shots for 24th followed by four question marks i didn't understand that wins first by a margin of 13 points first by a margin of 26
Starting point is 00:59:22 uh islanders 2018 19 2021 22 goals against second shots against seventh penalty kill fifth and the goals four wasn't very good but final four twice dude this guy understands the back half of the ice yes and i'll tell you uh it was the you know when he was coaching the capitals was the last time braden holpe looked good well right no i'm serious like and it's not that's not a shot at brayden holpe but i think brayden holpe got his next contract because of what happened with lane lambert shut out in game six and seven of the eastern conference final it's one of the craziest performances it's crazy in recent memory um and okay the islanders teams that he had couldn't score they couldn't score before him they couldn't they can't score after him but i don't think it
Starting point is 01:00:11 was his fault but now their defense is less good yeah yeah and i think so lane sorry but we made about the Leafs. No, no. Eventually I feel like you just restart the Nashville thing. We'll bring it back to Nashville. I digressed. Lane is one of two major misses I had this offseason. My number one was Lane. My number two was Connor Timmons. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 01:00:30 And you corrected me on Lane and I conceded that right away. Connor Timmons has been amazing. Well, when they hired Lane Lambert, I was like, Lane Lambert? And then I dug into it and I'm like, oh, shit. This guy's actually really good. Not everyone is a head coach. there you go not everyone is a gm some people sometimes a really really good assistant coach
Starting point is 01:00:51 becomes a head coach and they're neutralized right a really good assistant gm becomes a gm or even a president and they were probably better off as a really really really good assistant gm right from duties right and you know who isn't a gm who barry trotz and he's the president if i were at barry trotz i'd be asking my general manager why we currently sit 31st in goals in the league only the anaheim ducks have scored less goals than the nashville predators who are tied with the detroit red wings however nashville has conceded more goals they're currently a negative 12 they have 20 29 goals for 41 goals against you only have 29 goals that's right and the ducks have 25 how many games have they played they've played 12 games jesse that's just about
Starting point is 01:01:36 two goals just over two good how much are you gonna win how much you're gonna win now their pdo is interesting uh it's a 96.9 okay so that's low so we expect that to i hate when people say regress to the mean i think it's progress if it's going up it's progressing to the mean you know what you're wrong but you're right i'm taking it i'm saying good adam's adam's very right about that and i think at 2.42 goals a game uh that they could do better and hot take what i need to and what i need to know is okay you steve you you said something this offseason and you've said this a couple of times when the leafs have made a bunch of key additions in one offseason is that when new guys come in especially a guy like i look at a guy like stamp coast
Starting point is 01:02:24 guy like brady shea they have been in their respective systems playing their respective versions of hockey with two of the best nhl coaches of this era for 10 years yep and then they gotta come in andrew burnett's a very good coach yeah and a lesser degree jonathan marcheseau who's been with vegas since its inception right and so you're looking at guys that have been long-term systems and a team like nashville that didn't have a lot of success with their system until the u2 thing right and then they had a bazillion games where they didn't lose in in in regulation i get it i think you gotta give these guys just a little bit more time do you really think stephen stamkos is going to sit at one or two goals for the rest of the year
Starting point is 01:03:05 yeah but it's november 6th now and are you saying it's getting late early there's something about that calendar turn and all the you know what oh boy that bucket of candy's getting real light yeah you know all the poppies are out then the the 11th comes then it's the 12th now there's no poppies and you're like okay okay so what am i preparing for it's christmas and there's that weird no man's land you don't want to be still struggling in the no man's land before there's a moment where christmas season officially begins and all the music starts to play and you get the holly jollies on it's november 12th yes there it is but yeah but there's something between november 12th and december 1st where you've got nothing to think about other than we only have
Starting point is 01:04:00 29 freaking goals yeah well and that is not enough the the numbers support that they just need some more time to get it going they're 15th and expected goals for which is fine and what do you say 30th and 31st and goals for the actual talent first that's like that's egregious yes from where you're expected to be and their shooting percentage is the 30th worst in the league who the hell's worse uh the islanders and the oilers oh wow both of those track for different reasons exactly there's reason to believe that this is a chemistry thing and not to mention the pdo as well that pdo is ridiculous in 94 that's so low that's that's the thing about pdo though is it can last a year it can last a whole season it can but i think there's enough evidence here
Starting point is 01:04:42 that they'll they'll get back to the mean they'll progress up to the mean uh you look at the talent you look if they can get a couple more saves their save percentage is also pretty low um their save percentage is bought uh their fifth worst oh my god in the league like that's got to improve as well so i don't believe that they're going to be this all season long but as steve said you don't want to dig yourself in such a hole that it's going to be impossible to climb out of and it can be get it can get late real quick to support that point let me just say this before you jump in sure steven stamkos i just did some quick math is on pace for 14 goals this year that's not gonna happen that's not gonna happen yeah this guy had 40 last year and even if oh
Starting point is 01:05:24 you're coming to stamkos's defense oh listen even if he hits 30 in a defensive nashville system that's just not gonna happen all you need is steven stamkos to score for you once every two to three games that's not even really what they are anymore they shot the lights out against the Canucks they didn't bloody go in well they did yeah and the Canucks only got 12 shots a game and still scored in one um I think the problem with Nashville last year in the playoffs funnily enough was finish they did not finish I want to ask you about a player um because there's a guy who every time I watch Canucks highlights or anything he's involved Quinn he was good at hockey he is pretty good at hockey no the the Canucks fan base seems to have fallen in love
Starting point is 01:06:04 with him and i think nashville misses him like in a really low key connor garland bottom six kind of way keifer sherwood he for sure would oh what a hunk of shit i know but who i would love on my team yes valuable man he was a factor in that first round he really was what a motor mouth like what a what a just a nuisance yes your team needs nuisances though yep they really need nuisances and i i who is the nuisance for nashville now i wonder well and they don't have yakov trennan anymore either uh and also if your team is living and dying on on key for sure would respectfully no i know but but you do need a thousand cuts yeah you need vibes guys and you need yeah you're you're completely turning things over yeah um it's a very very very different team
Starting point is 01:07:00 and I think you started the discussion with it, it takes a long time to gel. And there were a lot of additions this year and that sucked up a lot of the oxygen, a lot of subtractions in Nashville too. And you had Ryan O'Reilly guys say, and I respect the honesty here because when he left Buffalo,
Starting point is 01:07:17 he was like, I lost my joy for hockey. I respect it. And then a couple nights ago, he said, that's the worst game I've ever played in the NHL. And I respect that. That was last night. Oh, was that last night? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:26 Okay, yeah. Wasn't that the last game they played? Yeah, or whatever the last game. It was Monday night, but it was two nights ago. He said it this week. And I love a player that owns that. I was really mad at him for leaving, but I can't not love Ryan O'Reilly. And so when you have a guy saying that and you have trots going,
Starting point is 01:07:48 oh, we're going to start the rebuild. No, you're not. No, you're not. Sorry, Barry. That's just a quote. But these are professional athletes, guys. and for for barry to even say that it's not that he's actually going to do it it's that these guys are full of pride and he just insulted that pride yep and they have the remember you know tom brady
Starting point is 01:08:08 nobody believed we could do this we were only the number one seed and won every game this year yeah you know yeah uh there's something where they're able to kind of grab that and go screw you man he's trying to create youtube 2.0 yeah like after youtube they went what was it 13 or 18 games without a regulation loss or whatever it was 14 0 and 4 or whatever it's crazy like he's trying to galvanize the troops again and get them back to that position but one thing ryan o'reilly said when he was talking about uh is the worst game of my my life that i thought was really interesting i want to get your guys's thoughts on is after that quote in that scrum he also said i think we need to get out of town and figure this out he said it's very
Starting point is 01:08:50 frustrating on the road i think it's a little easier you can just show up and play i thought that i thought that was a fascinating quote from a guy who played in toronto and is now again talking about the media being on them and what in nashville right in nashville now ryan i i i mean they are a well-followed team what do you guys hockey what do you guys think of that i think that's somebody that is blaming blaming people showing up and enjoying hockey uh and therefore covering hockey for his own fault is and that is that i can't stand that shit man i you i thought you played in the real nhl this is where ryan o'reilly loses me uh this is where that that's that's where when okay the leafs offer you your hometown team offers you the same deal as the
Starting point is 01:09:32 preds you take the preds deal even though i get the tax-free thing i get it all that but then you come back on the radio and go yeah they need to de-emphasize the court for after you've signed somewhere else what are you trying to say about the blues ryan yeah is it is it did this sorry did the the blues was 60 years of history not have people following them like you know i think what's like how did the conversation go hey ryan the parade's tomorrow fuck yeah here's here's what you need to do ryan stop reading the articles stop reading the tweets now here's another way to interpret that did he accidentally say we need a green light night what's a green light night well it's when a team is doing really really bad and so they all go out and just get completely
Starting point is 01:10:18 fucked up just to reset themselves and then they show up to work the next day and they get back to work maybe they do maybe where where's this road trip they got going on hold on are they going to vegas oh boy uh oh boy that most teams don't say that hey we need to start winning again we need to go to vegas uh the preds road trip uh so they yeah they lost to the kings monday night that three nothing that's bad that three nothing drubbing uh then they go to washington to florida back home against utah they got to go to washington and then travel to florida the next night yeah so you got to go up to washington back down to florida come back home to ottawa or ottawa against utah then you fly out to colorado edmonton calgary vancouver seattle so this
Starting point is 01:11:10 little road trip here is where ryan o'reilly's probably like ah thank god i don't have to well and what your media doesn't have oh yeah thank god i gotta go to canada i don't think that's what ryan o'reilly's thinking i think i actually think he's he's saying listen if you want to beat the capitals take a bunch of penalties they can't score damn that's the only way to stop the capitals is to put them on the power play has it hasn't been said man i'm just saying if this keeps up here jesse pull pull that back up 17th all eyes on the roxy all eyes on the roxy in vancouver if the preds are still struggling by the oh okay uh they're gonna tear that place up ryan o'reilly's gonna have a lot of fun on this uh what is two-week road trip uh through colorado
Starting point is 01:11:51 edmonton calgary vancouver and seattle adam what's your favorite green green light night place in calgary okay you're you're on this road trip adam where are you having the most fun where do you where do you go to feel sorry for your friday night in calgary listen i would say friend of the show uh greta yyc uh that's what i would say uh greta barb yyc check it out no no boo this man no it wasn't a sponsored segment well i know but it's they're also actually great adam is giving his earnest opinion back in the day back in the day when i was there it was hudson's okay that's That's what I'm asking. I don't know if it's like that anymore, but it was.
Starting point is 01:12:28 You're the best. You were how old when you were in Calgary? 23. So you're 23. It's Friday, November 15th in 2012. Calgary defeats Nashville on a Friday night. And you're like, guys, let's go out. I'm done my shift at the radio station.
Starting point is 01:12:50 Where are you going? Back then it was Hudson's. And it's because I also worked there, so I could just walk right in. And security guards are like, you don't have to pay cover. Just Hudson's? Or no, like second spot? We did do other spots. But Hudson's was always cool because it was like a pub that turned into a nightclub every night.
Starting point is 01:13:05 Every weekend night. Which is rare. We don't see that a lot in Toronto. So here's what we're doing. Okay, so you're at home in Nashville. You go out Saturday night. You travel day Sunday. There's one option.
Starting point is 01:13:17 Number two, you have two days off after Colorado. Where you probably go out in Edmonton. That's option three. the other one you can either go out in calgary option three because you have saturday night off or you arrive early in vancouver and tear that shit up or you go out after vancouver or you go out after vancouver there is lots of vancouver of green light night opportunities for the nashville predators this is where they make up for missing you too and you and you give them the day 18th off you give them the day to get to get to get right and be hung over and then you get 19 you
Starting point is 01:13:53 You get to Seattle and you skate. Oh, no. This road trip is brought to you by Advil. Yeah. No, 100%. One thing I learned about having credentials for the Toronto Maple Leafs is there are four mandated days off a month for NHL teams. Oh.
Starting point is 01:14:10 And the Leafs have already burned, I think, two. What? No, maybe the last one came at the end of October. But I know they have a day off today. There's no way they've already burned two. I know one's gone, at least. but um and now i'm keeping track of like when are they off oh that's good i know they're off today well one of four when you have an older team though they're less likely to hang out with
Starting point is 01:14:29 each other they're more likely to go uh home with their families and their kids and stuff that's an older team so you got to do it on the road listen uh and also i want to throw this at you the nashville predators are tied for last in the nhl right now with the philadelphia flyers crazy uh i think it's worth barry trott saying something yes uh you got you got a few games here um three games hopefully you get at least three out of six points you got the long road trip i think you got to come out of that above 500 then you get a nice long home stand at the end of the month if you do well there all of a sudden by the end of the month you're doing okay steve you questioned me but i'm correct they have already burned two of their mandated days off this month
Starting point is 01:15:10 they had monday off i just triple checked they had monday off and they have today off uh so the Leafs get two more days off for the rest of the month from team events. That is true, but have you considered... No, I'm kidding. They have a very light back half of November. Yes. So they have two days off, two days off, three days off, three days off again, two days off, two days off.
Starting point is 01:15:35 They have a lot of accidental time off. Totally. I just thought it was interesting. To me, that's actually a smart way of budgeting it, to be honest. Jesse. i just sent you a clip and i want you to bring it up because you know sometimes in hockey the story is first off the story is it's always about the leafs like when you're putting a show together it's always about the leafs uh because the leafs are a constant state of drama and dread yes
Starting point is 01:16:00 sometimes fun though sometimes it's about the surprise good teams sometimes it's about the surprise bad teams and sometimes it's just bad teams who expected to be bad and for whatever reason they didn't expect to be bad and i'm going to talk i'm going to shift to the philadelphia flyers here i don't think anybody thought hey man the flyers made such great moves this offseason they're going to be so much better i think everybody was just shocked that they were even in the playoff picture come april last year i was excited for mitch kov yes but like did they go out and fundamentally add to this team other than their own draft pick from the previous it's not enough to just be like save us tiny child right and and and did nothing to address the
Starting point is 01:16:42 goaltending issue which they clearly had last year um i'm not gonna say nothing but what did they do steve not enough so they bring in kolosov who again is another pick of theirs but it wasn't a given that they were going to be able to get him um they've signed ivan fedotov yeah who they obviously believe in were they correct to put their faith in this player 535 goals against average this year Ivan Fedotov yeah 821 save percentage in three games last year 811 good so you could say he's improving lord you and then Sammy Erson who is just Emma Cain's the world poor guy. Day to day right now?
Starting point is 01:17:29 So they've had three options. None of them are terribly good. Now here's what Torrance had to say after a 6-4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. You said this morning you wanted to see progress in certain areas. Did you see enough of that tonight? No. As far as guys getting off the schneid, you get one in Frosty gets a bounce. Tips gets one.
Starting point is 01:17:51 At least good to see them get going. What was it that you didn't think? I'm not going to dissect it. Thought someone would call the sauce plate today. Okay. You know, there are times where I'm like, John, why you got to be an asshole? This is not one of those times.
Starting point is 01:18:11 He wasn't being an asshole there. I know. He's just mad. He's, and that's the story. Right. The story is he's white, hot, mad. He's thinking of all the things he can buy with $25,000. How could you not?
Starting point is 01:18:28 You could have a great time in Philadelphia for $25,000. Think of how many Eagles games you could go to, how many Sixers games. You might even get to see Joel Embiid. You probably could have Eagles seasons tickets in the box. Yes. 25 grand. 25 grand.
Starting point is 01:18:44 You could probably, you know what? You and your buddies just all go out and buy bumper cars. Does this all go out and buy you stars and find an empty lot? Yeah. Have some stupid fun. Please don't do that. For the love of God, don't do that. You could blow it all on a hockey card.
Starting point is 01:18:59 You could. I would. I 100% would. You could do whatever you want. You can make a statue out of yourself and call it the John Tortorella Monument and put it right next to the one of Rocky in Philadelphia and have it look better than the Dwayne Wade and the Ronaldo one. Oh, yeah. for 25 000 um or you could say something really uh mean and get fined right and i don't think he is making a smart financial decision yeah this is financing with john tortorella yep
Starting point is 01:19:31 yep i mean listen he's pissed he's pissed and i i think that that is listen there have um there have been uh times in the past where i go john and i and i remember actually specifically when the columbus blue jackets took him aside and said john we get it you need to back off a little bit that team earned the right to do it it sure did if i remember correctly it was veterans like brandon dubinsky who were like john he's off and this is he's hot off of uh vancouver at that point and John Tortorella had a very Oliver Ekman Larson experience in Vancouver yeah all right I've done pretty
Starting point is 01:20:16 well I'm going to show up here have the worst year of my life and then promptly leave and I mean this is just a like okay let's say the Flyers fire him oh they're not going to no but let's say well I mean it
Starting point is 01:20:32 wouldn't be completely shocking they're not going to fire him it wouldn't be he's the face of their franchise well maybe they need a new one but like all i'm saying is it wouldn't be completely shocking if they fired him it would also change nothing yes it would uh you need a save you need goals you need power play goals yeah you need to not stink and i think all the unsaid words by john tortorella there he's more than happy to jump on the grenade for his guys what he did there was he refused to jump on the grenade
Starting point is 01:21:07 not just for his guys but for management absolutely they they haven't helped him they haven't helped go get it they don't have a shot right now this is the problem what's he gonna what's he gonna do carve a bunch of guys who like because they're they're not playing out of their depth or above their depth yeah yeah flyers are what they are yep what do you what are they supposed to do what is john tortorella supposed to do turn water into wine if they had a uh a duo of stuart skinner and uh calvin pickard their save percentage would be up over 60 good it's not 60 60 from the 812 that it's at to like yeah i know yeah and i can you imagine if you were right yeah no it would yeah that would be a rare day i my point is listen john clearly when he's seen success
Starting point is 01:21:56 has had great goaltending and great defensive systems what this man specializes with okay you don't have a very deep defense core no it's okay dude risto's playing first pair i don't i've never seen a guy pay more first pair and have less success it's crazy like all the first pair he got in in buffalo too i don't know what people see but i think i don't think they have a choice right that's a chuck fletcher deal they have to live with they don't have to play in first pair but this is a guy who had a he had a good goaltending tandem in lack and Luongo in Vancouver, which he promptly alienated. He had a good
Starting point is 01:22:34 goaltender in Columbus, Bobrovsky, and then had Merzlikens and the other guy. Korpisal. And they played well in that system. In Tampa, he had Stanley Cup winning goaltending. Yes.
Starting point is 01:22:49 This is pretty clear what this is. It doesn't matter what the team does. If you can't get a save, you can't get a save. When he got fired in Tampa, who did he have? I don't even know. Nikolai Habibu... Oh, no, it was John Graham. Sometimes you need a goddamn occasional safe.
Starting point is 01:23:04 Did you mention the wins with the goaltenders? The wins? Yeah, because nobody outside of Samuel Urson has won a game so far this season. Well, when your safe percentage is 8-11, I can bet that you're not going to win. I didn't know that. He's the only goaltender.
Starting point is 01:23:18 They have four wins on the season and one overtime loss, and he has four wins on the season and a bunch of losses, and then that same overtime loss. So I don't know the exact math, but if you allow 22, 23 shots in a game, which is pretty good, that means by the law of averages, your goalie is allowing four. You can't win.
Starting point is 01:23:42 You can't win. You can't. Well, what's the most annoying thing? Oh, you just want your goalie to give you a chance to win. The Flyers don't have that. No. Literally don't have that. It's a great, it's an interesting story we want to watch.
Starting point is 01:23:55 Also, this week, I mentioned on Monday, it had just come out, so we hadn't had a chance to look at it, but all 32 coaches have been added to NHL 25. Do you guys care to go through and have a look at some of them? I sent Jesse a link. Let's see them. Now, some people obviously are clowning this, and some guys look like their guys, and some guys do not.
Starting point is 01:24:20 And we'll just kind of roll through some of these guys. But I thought, of all the guys, Torts looks the funniest. It's the third slide over, Jesse, if you want to see Torts. Torts looks like, in the NHL version of him, looks like your cool uncle that owns a Trans Am. So Jesse is having trouble right now because none of the coaches look like themselves. None of the coaches. I think Rick Talkett.
Starting point is 01:24:52 rick talk it looks like rick talk it nailed i don't mind travis green uh so here let's go through so i don't know who any of these people are okay so i ah so there's talking on the left soon yeah okay no no no okay let's play a game let's play a game let's try to guess who these people are i'm gonna tell you what the td garden the td bank on the helmet that's that's jim montgomery a second from the left looks like a 30 years younger jim montgomery i'm not gonna lie on the far left i think that's one of the like npcs you can run over at a coffee shop in grand theft auto five uh the second from the left i think is jim montgomery next to jim montgomery on the right i think might be lindy ruff far right jeff blaschel i have no idea oh no flames husket no that's husket
Starting point is 01:25:47 stop it is okay uh talk it talk it dead ringer maybe bruce cassidy next to him next to him is groot no not groot grew sorry yeah root is the by the way i believe that is bruce cassidy you're right yeah next to him is carberry and i just check by like looking at the jersey yeah and scott arneal No, that's cheating. A Berube is actually pretty good. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:19 It's not bad. Not bad. If you could slide over to Torts, I just want to show Torts. I think he's the funniest. There he is. On the left. This? That's Torts.
Starting point is 01:26:29 Do you believe that's Torts? That looks like he's got like Grecian in and he's trying to go gray. That's not John Tortorella. I know. I know. Dan Bilesma looks pretty Dan. It looks like some university professor in some video game where he gives you a potion.
Starting point is 01:26:49 Yeah, Biles was pretty good. He's a liberal arts major, for sure. The Berube one is actually really good. It is. John Tortorella looks like the psychiatrist from Grand Theft Auto V. Yeah. There's a lot of Grand Theft Auto V here. Here's the problem with that.
Starting point is 01:27:02 That game is 11 years old! The technology is improved. Why haven't you? Who's on the left there, Steve? Who's on the left? Maybe me. No. It could be...
Starting point is 01:27:17 Who is that on the left? Kyle Dubas? Close, though. I'm close? Come on, Steven. Who is this? Sheldon Keefe. Stop it!
Starting point is 01:27:31 That's probably the worst image of Sheldon Keefe ever. That's not Sheldon Keefe. I know. They didn't get a damn thing. Maybe the eyebrows. And the hairline. They got the hairline. they got the hairline we got no bullshit that's the 2019 hairline that's not the 2024 devil's
Starting point is 01:27:46 jersey yeah travis green looks like travis green uh peter laviolette here no no what no i think this is decent i don't think it's too far off i think he's got a bigger more prominent nose than that i would say he's got it they're all just npc faces yeah and then like they'll randomly be like here's exactly travis green to a team oh no yeah no lavielette he looks yeah see more prominent nose and he's got heavier eyebrows he's got heavier eyebrows than that peter lavielette has very good eyebrows and now it's a little the hair on almost all of them is terrible look at marty saint louis yeah oh that's saint louis smiling stop happening stop it immediately that's that's what saint louis looks like
Starting point is 01:28:37 coaching this year's canadians okay nashville okay here wait wait on the far left is a sad party clown without the makeup yeah um voldemort on the next to him allegedly martin saint louise way taller brother um on the far right if you held a gun to my head and gave me 24 hours you wouldn't have got andrew burnett i would have got andrew that's andrew burnett yeah yeah and then and then and then he was in these games as a player and they don't have his face same with saint louis montgomery's in there too oh my god montgomery looks like him looks a little bit more like him wait are you talking about second from the left second from the left adam that's not jim montgomery it looks ish it's not jim montgomery i think that looks
Starting point is 01:29:27 That's not him. That's John Hines. Yeah. Oh. That's not. Are you serious? You didn't even get the right ball guy. That's the Kings wild Canadians predators.
Starting point is 01:29:38 You didn't even get the right ball guy. You don't even have the right person. I thought that was Monty. It's not. Oh, my God. Oh, man. Now, here's the deal. The NHL coaches are all part of a group, and they signed a deal with EA Sports NHL to finally
Starting point is 01:29:53 allow their likenesses to be used. Now, this used to be, I think, 2000, NHL 2004, 2005 was the last time the coaches were last used. So you actually used to see your typical coaches and that sort of thing. It's nice that they've added them in. And a group, you mean a union. They have a coach's union. They have a coach's union. Yeah, the coach's union finally signed the deal for their likenesses in free.
Starting point is 01:30:14 Okay, so that's very clearly Pete DeBoer on the left. I don't know who that guy is. Very clearly the hoomst. Absolutely not. And then there's, that's Knobloch. Knobloch. Oh, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 01:30:27 No, Knobloch's decent. I can see Knobloch. Yeah. But I don't know. No. Who's the guy in the middle of Knobloch and DeBoer? Can you guess? Blaschel.
Starting point is 01:30:38 Let's see. Blaschel. Yeah, Blaschel. There is no way. Okay, so Jesse's just sort of. Oh, no. I just checked. Far right.
Starting point is 01:30:46 That's Paul Murray. That's not Paul Murray. This is just guy. I've never seen anything look less like Paul Murray. what happened to his mouth that's also his hair isn't right no it's not so this is the thing it's cool that the coaches union signed this deal right like that's cool i'm so glad they're doing that adds to the realism i think it's awesome that the nh nhl 25 has done that yeah listen there's no way paul marie says that much hair dude whenever you try to create a player they're
Starting point is 01:31:16 like here would you like to select from one of these 75 hair types and they landed on that but he's bald i i i'm wondering why his nose is off too why they didn't wait and get it right here's a man with glasses what do we need all right what is paul maurice's most uh defining feature yes that's right glasses brindamore you can tell instantly that's brindamore at least like that's decent you can yeah okay you can tell they're trying to do brindamore but it's not brindamore can you give me the other three to the right of brindamore again if you gave me all day and you and you that's evison the creed yeah that's great yeah yeah that's great there he looks like a jack-o'-lantern you're joking me right now the guy stick a candle in him the guy
Starting point is 01:32:11 next to him on the left i have no idea who that is uh okay sullivan no uh no that is um bednar That's Bednar. That one's not bad. That one's not bad. Next to Bednar on the left. NPC. I'll scroll. And we can't even tell what the team is.
Starting point is 01:32:31 Right? No, Travis Green's back in there. No, no. You can't even tell what team it is! No, who is that? Who's got Bell Tire as a helmet sponsor? Who's Bell Tire? Bell Tire helmet sponsor.
Starting point is 01:32:41 Bell Tire. It can't be the Habs. It's not the Sens. Sponsor. And now I'm out of French teams. Blackhawks. Blackhawks. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 01:32:51 That's Luke Richardson? Oh, yeah. The hairline's right. What? The hairline's right. No! Luke Richardson is in the... That is a hockey hall of famer!
Starting point is 01:33:04 That's not Luke Richardson. It's not? No, that doesn't look like him. But the hairline's right. It is. It's not! It's not! Adam, look at a picture of Luke Richardson!
Starting point is 01:33:15 it i i think he's got the it's kind of the swoop down it's not you know he's got the bounce yeah i don't understand why they were able to get some so right and some so wrong like bednar's great listen let's be honest so they're probably working on a fix for this because they've been they've been clowned and this is what happens when you rush things man it's so cool that they did this and i don't want to take away from that but not being ready for it takes away from it bro anyway uh all of them i think no i want to do this for the rest of my life john cooper i don't know if they're all included in there oh i think we said all 32 yeah but maybe bar down didn't have all 30 yeah that's lindy ruff in witness protection that's lindy ruff halfway getting
Starting point is 01:34:08 undressed from a halloween party oh is that no who the oh yeah there's cooper that's andre tourney on the far right yeah you stink that's cooper that's you yeah this is this is i don't think we're here okay i know some people are listening to this so oh yeah the people listening i feel bad this is probably no no it's okay so imagine john cooper right okay you picture him in your head all right now imagine someone who looks nothing like him all right here so sorry let's move on to the next one i'm gonna do this we're done we're done So imagine Andre Tournier, right? So now imagine someone who looks nothing like him.
Starting point is 01:34:48 Now let me throw this at you. I like saying T-R-I-G-N-E. Yeah, I know. It's annoying. T-R-I-G-N-E is way more fun. Benoit. Do you guys like that? Two in five Canadians will hear the words,

Starting point is 01:42:07 uh behind the glass it kind of does oh wow yo that's awesome that's actually great that's great can you can you do it again that's not bad it's not bad at all his hair is a little different than yours down yours as much i think i like your hair a lot better his yeah there you go okay steve's holding his breath turning pink like the guy in this in the in the ad i think he's banging on the glass yeah he's banging on that oh he's been yeah That is a white person with brown hair and glasses. How dare you?
Starting point is 01:42:52 That's all that is. It's not bad. It's pretty good. It's not bad. I know it's not Steve because he's wearing a jersey without his name on the back. You don't know that. You can't see the back. It's got the C on the front, so I assume he's not putting his own
Starting point is 01:43:08 name. That's not true. He could be Captain 69 McGillicuddy. You don't know that. We got a message on the Discord from somebody named Tom. Tom wrote... What do you want? I am Tom from Berlin, Germany. I had a good laugh about Steve's reaction to the Berlin Polar Bears mascot in your recent episode.
Starting point is 01:43:31 I've been listening to the STP for more than 10 years now. Yes, Chris was still the producer. Wow. Your show, Leafs Nation, PPP, and Russian Machine Never Breaks was the reason for me to start a blog. and later a podcast mainly focused on the s baron berlin oh how do you how do i say that well long story short they hired me as their video coach four years ago making me one of only two full-time video coaches in the del get out i have no history of playing professional hockey i was a train driver that ran a blog and a podcast as a hobby i'm a blogger
Starting point is 01:44:10 that's getting paid i am living the dream and sdp had a big influence on that we have won two championships in my four years with the team and franz nielsen is the most humble human being i've ever met thank you keep up the great work and go leafs go hey that's so cool we had a helping hand in a del championship in some weird roundabout way how sick i thought that was really cool and want to share that with you guys i don't want you yeah you watching this right now listening to ever ever in your life even dream of fucking giving up that's so cool yeah that's that rules if you ever think like hey i can't do this because of blank there's somebody who's a fucking train drive yeah champion and he's like i like hockey right start a blog and is now a video coach in
Starting point is 01:45:02 the DEL, which is pretty high-level hockey in comparison to the entire world. The top 10 league in the world. And has championships. That is so cool, Tom. Thank you for listening for so long. Now we have a DEL team we can cheer for. Man, that's...
Starting point is 01:45:17 I think now... Hell yeah. Now your team has to be the official DEL team of the Steve D'Angelo podcast. Yes. How about that? Jesse, one more time. Give us the name.
Starting point is 01:45:28 It's Baron Berlin. Nah. E-I-S-B-A-R-E-N. No, you stink. What? I don't know. I don't speak German. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:45:39 So how many seasons has he been there? Ten years. No, that's the listening. I don't know. And you said his name's Tom? They hired me as their video coach four years ago. And you said his name's Tom? Yeah, you don't have to give out his government.
Starting point is 01:45:54 No, no. I can find you, Tom. I found you. I found you on EliteProspects.com I found you And it says DEL champion twice Which is more than Jesse Blake Good for him man
Starting point is 01:46:09 That's so great I love hearing that Last thing we'll touch on Just a quick one from Ballsy06 Regarding Ryan Reeves Balls! Do you think Chief has told Ryan Reeves to not fight To get the boys to step up to that aggression level
Starting point is 01:46:25 They need to be at there's a theory Ryan so what the Leafs have had in the past and last year is too many designated tough guys they were not tough
Starting point is 01:46:46 teams they were teams that had tough players on them does that you understand yeah yeah yes if this player isn't on the ice the Leafs are not tough Wayne Simmons did not drag the Leafs into the fight he did the fighting Kyle Clifford did not drag the Leafs into the fight Matt Martin he did the fight Matt Martin Ryan Reeves Jake Muzzin but wasn't it wasn't a fighter just you
Starting point is 01:47:14 know you know Jake Muzzin to a totally different extent but yeah um what this team is slowly turning into is a tough team the leafs aren't really a great time anymore they're not fun look at the hits max patch already thrown patches oel uh benoit is an exhausting time mccabe uh timmons is ugly i wouldn't want he he loves to use a stick the whole decor like forget naming them all the whole all of them every single wait till hockinpah gets in there that guy's a motherfucker like uh they they got guys up front it's not quite as pronounced up front nize in a very different way is a horrible time right they're slowly becoming a better team um i'm not gonna go as far to say yeah i think berube told reeves not to fight
Starting point is 01:48:10 but there's definitely an air of the team knows they have to fight for themselves and that's a good thing to learn i'd also say jesse didn't you say that that when you're at the game reeves said to rempy uh in the new york game if you run around we're gonna go like if you get crazy there was some sort of quote i don't know if it came from you or for someone else but basically reeves told the media listen i i said to rempy if he if he does anything if he tries anything stupid then we're going and reeves kicked his ass last time sometimes sometimes the deterrent is enough and and i as long as reeves can be and listen there are games where i'm like jesus but there are there are games and i think last night was one of them where he was perfectly fine
Starting point is 01:48:54 and you're you're for what his expectation is sure sometimes the deterrent is enough sometimes knowing you'll have to answer for it is enough i didn't see the boston bruins pulling the chicken shit stuff that they could always pull on the leafs at all there's they tried a little bit of it yeah but it wasn't like there was always an answer for it exactly like the Leafs were the second toughest team in a game against Boston you see the shift or a series Domi chased a Bruin around the ice the entire shift did you see that I don't mind Domi doing that silly shit in October November December he does eventually got a stop but early in the season I don't know that's funny it's an investment that to me it's it's it's you're right it's an attitude thing Ryan Reeves
Starting point is 01:49:39 will fight when he has to but i don't think just pounding pounding people's faces uh how many guys in the league are like yeah i'm gonna drop him with ryan none of them like 10 maybe maybe mike posetta is out of his mind even matthew nye is saying uh in the playoffs last year to go me go me go me i would love it's an attitude yes it's an attitude and it's got to be throughout your lineup um it's a willingness there are there are fighters mitch marner size there are fighters william nylander size there i don't want austin throwing punches i worry about those risks but other than that he does hit does hit throws throws the weight around like you don't have to fight who the hell looks forward to playing sasha barkov nobody like the the the main attraction
Starting point is 01:50:30 for the Panthers is like, oh, Sam Bennett's going to punch you in the dick and frigging Matthew Kachuk can do it too and this guy and that guy and that guy. Barkov's exhausting. It's about finding the right balance of different kinds of exhausting.
Starting point is 01:50:46 Different kinds of horrible night. That's how you're able to be down 3-1 in a series to the Bruins and win it anyway. Claw your way back. Pound their fucking D until they have
Starting point is 01:51:02 nothing left when game seven comes around. That's Paul Maurice mic'd up on camera. They won the cup. Pound D, baby. Pound D. Pound D! Like D has never been
Starting point is 01:51:18 pounded before! Yes, he hit the extra. Alright. Pound it! Did you guys want to do Patrick Laine NHL Car Watch or Charles Leclerc uh f1 car Ferrari watch uh let's do let's change because we're doing a show tomorrow let's save Leclerc for tomorrow oh save Leclerc okay Leclerc I want to do line a okay I want to
Starting point is 01:51:42 do line I see if I can do this because uh Leclerc Leclerc has a collection um it was just one like new one he received of course because he probably gets one every year as part of his deal sure that's got to be a benefit of driving by the way for Ferrari is you get many of them for free wouldn't that be cool yeah it's okay so we got a thank you to actually i'll pull up who sent just me in a second but i'll play it uh shout out mvp sports marketing who along with four others had this uh post on instagram oh they are with patrick line and they are giving him a genesis oh that's enjoy your new genesis g70 sport jesus this winter why you what is happening what do you you know you know that what's wrong you know that meme that every once in a while makes its way
Starting point is 01:52:28 through facebook and instagram and twitter and it's like a smile would be nice nothing to smile about in my life like that's how patrick line looks in this picture this might be the worst picture ever so this is this is actually a video oh so that's why you guys are like upset at the freeze frame right now all right you're very quick to judgment okay reserve as a photo it's hey okay okay okay hold off on your tires and how many if you're gonna put five tires on this car or not hold off until you watch this video all right here we go all right let's uh the only time he smiles is when it's over okay so for the sake of i'm probably gonna cut it because of the music let's do it again and uh adam if you could take us through the video now that you've seen it one
Starting point is 01:53:13 time so i i would say okay if you're listening to this um basically uh you know they start off en francais uh on quebec for en francais and then they very good and and the host it's like i'm there uh city the host is carnival with bonhomme denage no you're you're incredible sorry so the video obviously shows off the the gb70 actually very very well they do a shot of the side of it it looks very clean uh the interior has got a beautiful red color and they're showing off the a little bit of the tech and and how beautifully stitched the seats are uh my mom has a genesis i think just like this but not the sport one yeah because she's like an old lady and she's not gonna be she's not like i need to crush people on the highway but the one thing i'll say
Starting point is 01:53:57 about a lining is that what people do with their car well you know that that's why you get a sport so you have a little bit more kick right uh lining is super well just dressed that's a montclair puffer jacket going down to his knees and that is not cheap and he looks great he looks amazing car looks good i give this a five out of five not only is it bilingual shows off the car properly and patrick linea looks like an absolute stud in it i would say if i were linea's um social media coach i'd be like patrick patrick look at the camera give him a smile to start okay here let need to work on our marketing thing a smile might be nice look at him he's like yeah and like and the other thing is those two they could have done a second take of this video if i'm gonna if i'm
Starting point is 01:54:43 gonna get criticism he asks him essentially the same question twice is have you ever driven one of these yes okay and he's like yeah it's a great car and i i enjoyed it i'm looking forward to driving this one what do you think of the brand well he just told you that uh so so that's what i would that would be my criticism of the actual video um and when you're producing somebody like this who's clearly uncomfortable on camera you say to him hey patrick here's what i'm going to ask you here's what i need you to say love the car really excited to drive it to games i can't wait to score 40 billion goals for the haps that's it million percent that's it that's all he's got my favorite thing about this video is cedric paré could never no he couldn't he could never he could
Starting point is 01:55:19 never he's never getting invited by mvp sports marketing mvp sports marketing i gotta apologize for the beginning of the segment i wasn't familiar with your game it's good i i the host looks good too he's i'm giving it five five tires out of five that's five times i think uh i think they did a great job with the video because so often you can't get athletes to do anything because they're like that's not my job my job is to play sports but the fact that they got patrick line to at least just stand there in his uggs i think he's wearing dude if you want to do something look at it look at his little feet there i think they're uggs um the fact that they got him in a video dapping this guy up
Starting point is 01:55:56 saying yeah I love Genesis five times five hours out of five and by the way the Genesis are really nice cars I really like the brand so yeah that's the thing I know about I think aren't they the
Starting point is 01:56:07 brand too that there are no dealerships they just come to your house I've no idea I don't know that much about Genesis all right what do we leave here as a comment I well it's already got
Starting point is 01:56:18 4,000 likes so a lot of people like this okay we got to have a comment that stands out then is my point i like i'm gonna like it oh 4082 now the that that's the right vehicle to cross the finish line a and and spell finish f-i-n-n-i-s-h oh it's my vehicle wrong cross the vehicle finish line is like that and then finish line can you put a checkered flag emoji yeah yeah send
Starting point is 01:56:55 like put the word yeah and then and you might want to fix vehicle and do I leave it no cool no definitely get vehicle right why you want to have the you want to be intentional
Starting point is 01:57:10 vehicle Jesse I'm actually like that I want to why no H I C L E vehicle across the that's the right i like that or you could say isn't it uh in france or in france in quebec isn't it latomobile or oh yeah okay let's get some french in there how do you say how do you say car in quebec french by the way the reason i'm saying quebec french is it's way
Starting point is 01:57:41 different uh there what's your how do i spell b-o-i-t-u-r-e oh v-o-i-e v-o-i-t-u-r-e what's your u-r-e that's the right which stands for car vehicle carriage coach wagon or motor there's also Le Car or Le Wagon.
