Ladies and gentlemen, let's get this started.
Let's bring to the stage the men of the hour, Jesse Blake, Adam Wilde, and Steve Dangle.
Hey, everybody!
How we doing?
I know we've got people all over the bar.
There's many rooms. We're so happy to have you here.
Now, listen, I don't know how many people
have actually been to a live
podcast recording,
which sounds so sexy.
So very sexy.
Listen, here's what we expect
and what we need from you. This is a live show,
so we want you to be loud.
There you go.
Good start. That's a great start.
We got it going, all right?
So, like, we want to hear from you.
We want you to boo what you don't like.
We want you to cheer what you do like.
All right, you don't have to boo me directly.
Like, I just got started, okay?
Everybody boo Adam.
Boo!
Oh, my God, I'm in high school again.
So, listen, I just want to say...
Where's your leather pants?
So, we just wanted to say thank you so much for being here tonight.
Big round of applause to you guys from wherever you came from.
Amazing.
I know of a few places
I've heard from people from Brampton
and there's people coming up from Scarborough
we had a pilot from Philadelphia
fly himself here today
right there
it's wild
what are you doing?
it's amazing
you know what's great?
he could have just said that
it's like, no, I drove from Napanee
nobody did any background check
on that guy
we've not met him at all
Show us your pilot's license.
No, he flew here.
Whip it out.
Do you have a license?
Do you actually?
Yeah, bring it up here.
Yeah.
Bring it up here.
I want to see it.
What's your SIN number?
Unless it says American Airlines, you better walk out.
What's your bank password?
No, it's okay.
It's okay.
You don't have to bring it up here.
We believe you.
Do you have it?
I believe you.
No, no.
Now he has to do it, Adam.
We do believe you.
Now he has to do it.
Oh.
Whip it out! Whip it out! Whip it out! Whip it out! Whip it out!
Let's go.
There it is.
Thank you.
So while we're waiting for that, let me just say this.
I felt like a Leaf fan today watching the Kingston Frontenacs for the first time in person in like 20 years.
The Frontenacs were the very first OHL team I ever saw.
and it was against the
Oshawa Generals.
Boo. I was waiting for that.
It was a bit of a slow boo, guys. I'm not going to
lie. We got to be, come on, sharpen up here.
All right? It's not the
Peets. It's not the Peets. That's true.
No. Correct.
Okay, so let me ask you this. As a
France fan, who do you hate more? Is it
Oshawa? Is it Peterborough? Who is it?
The Leafs. Am I
right?
The Reps.
Okay, fair enough.
Now, I'm not sure if you guys saw
while we were all at the game,
but the Edmonton Oilers made a signing.
The Edmonton Oilers, who've won 13 straight games,
today, it looks like, have signed Corey Perry.
All right, guys, he's a real pilot.
so wait wait wait he's got a photo of it he doesn't have his license because and i've never
heard this sentence before he left it on the airplane yeah that makes a lot of sense it's
beautiful that's beautiful yeah well you know it's you kind of don't want to carry that stuff
around with you all the time passports pilot certificates but uh yeah okay it's a good safety
lesson all right well excellent there you go i believe you so so cory perry is your mic okay
So, Jesse's mic is off.
We know it's off.
We can't hear Jesse.
It's what you deserve.
There it is.
Okay.
We're back.
We're back.
We're back.
So, here's the thing.
The Edmonton Oilers, 13 straight wins.
Corey Perry added to the lineup.
This team could not have started worse, and they could not be better now.
I hate it.
And I hate it.
And I just wanted to get the room's thoughts on this, on former London Knight.
Boo!
We got some cheers.
Wow.
Cheers.
Well, actually, some people drove from London.
Yeah, makes sense.
Which is almost as impressive as flying from Philly, I think.
That's a long drive.
What do we think this is going to add to the Oilers here?
She says nothing.
I think, listen, what do I always talk about with the 2011 Bruins,
a team that I'm still fascinated with?
It's not just that they had rats,
and it's not just that they had guys who would beat you up.
They had enablers.
the oilers have enablers right so zach hyman is a handful and he'll score 55 goals on you
then you have i don't know if you're legally allowed to boo zach hyman no don't do that i
don't know if that's a thing we do no but like then there's evander kane and there's cory perry
like dude think about a lot of booze tonight the tampa bay lightning had patrick maroon
and Corey Perry on the same line.
Imagine something like Perry, Kane,
and in the middle you have, who cares,
probably the devil.
I assume the devil between those two.
When Kane is on the ice with McDavid,
he plays like he's seven foot tall.
Like he just goes out there
and he just tries to hit everybody.
And he has this confidence
because he knows McDavid's back there
doing all the fancy stuff.
And he can just go out there
and be the chucculence guy that Berkey wants, you know?
Kane, like, he's scary on that Edmonton Oilers team.
And then you add, at the center position,
Lucifer Morningstar
and just
it's terrifying
it's terrifying
Corey Perry's
going to wear 69
or the
or the devil
yeah the devil
would wear 69
kidding
or seven as a joke
that's a bible joke
Stanley Cup favorites
yeah
are we in agreement
oh the team who won
13 straight
yeah
here's what I want
I want to see
I don't care about
the Oilers in Calgary
anymore
Calgary's irrelevant
even if they make
the playoffs
who cares
they are
they are
come on
I mean
Oh, you're going to re-sign Hannafin, are you?
Okay, sure.
Correct, but also...
I want to see the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights.
Because now you got...
Yeah, right?
Right?
Because now what you have is you've got a group in Vegas that are emboldened.
They've won.
Their goaltenders are constantly injured.
I always wonder what the heck's going on there.
But they are mean and nasty in the playoffs.
You saw what they did to the Jets.
You saw what they did to the Florida Panthers.
and I feel like Corey Perry is a direct answer to
what if we have to play the Vegas Golden Knights
you know, I'm, listen
if the Leafs have to play the Vegas Golden Knights
I'll be so thrilled
because I don't know if you know this or not
they're in the West
and the Leafs would have to win three rounds
for the first time
since 1932
no, they did
they did and people got exceptionally upset
and I'm like, okay
is that a flex? Actually
we won
in the 30s
shortly after
the Great Depression
alright
you might as well
have not
I believe it was
1927
there was one point
when they had
three rounds
so I guess
all the teams
made the playoffs
so yeah
that's how we won it
great job
I'm glad that they
played all those
regular season games
so everybody
could make the playoffs
that's awesome
love
is this a hot take
if I say
the Edmonds and Oilers
are still the
third best team
in Canada
what
Who were the first?
The Winnipeg Jets, ladies and gentlemen.
And then the Vancouver Canucks.
And then the Edmonton Oilers.
Oh, I don't know.
I'm taking goaltending over everybody.
Yeah.
Hello, Buck.
I'm taking goaltending over everybody.
Demko as well.
Plus Hughes, Pedersen.
Like, the way they're playing, I think, is more of a team game than Edmonton.
I think they might still be the third best team in Canada.
It's worth mentioning that the Leafs won the deserved win-o-meter over the Canucks last night.
So you might have to bump Edmonton to fourth.
They might have to be fourth.
Can we win the deserved a couple meter too?
I would like that.
How about just win the...
No.
No.
Someone said, is this going to be a kid-friendly show?
And Adam, you're playing with fire.
We are in a bar, but we got to be careful.
Now, obviously, the Leafs played last night.
How many people watched it?
Oh, man.
Wow.
We got a grumpy bar tonight.
Yeah, I bet you did
Listen, how did the Jets do against Winnipeg?
Or how did the Jets do against the Senators?
I got to hide under my table here
It was a long day, long day, Adam
How did the Jets do against the Senators?
I actually didn't even see the score
Oh, overtime loss
Hey, listen, we're used to that as Leaf fans
Yeah
Yeah, there you go
So, I want to get your take on last night's game, guys
because obviously there was a, you know,
between a Leafs loss and then a France loss,
and now the Leafs are going to play Seattle tonight
at nine o'clock,
and the Seattle's one of the hottest teams in the league.
How are we feeling about last night's game?
I mean, listen, we've rode Mitch Marner a lot
as one of the stars who needs to step it up.
I know lately it's been John Tavares, obviously,
but I'm just talking about over the course of the season,
over the last few years,
a lot of pressure gets put on them a lot of it goes back to the contract talks we don't need
to rehash all of that last night was honest to goodness from start to finish one of the best
games i've ever seen them play and they just they they took it and they put it in one of
those metal urinals that's in the washroom at this place they i'm pointing at me i'm talking
about urinals i'm pointing at the those urinals they're very handsome urinals they're very tall
urinals no and it was it was they had 46 shots which is generally good 31 of them came from the
guys who make all the money and the npcs uh only got 15 and dude i hate that term i really do
that's mean dude outside okay as far as guys who aren't in the core uh-huh forwards okay who is
punching above their salary
weight? I think the answer
begins and ends with
Callie Yarncrow.
Everyone's shouting Callie Yarncrow.
Matthew Nise is in a bit of a slump.
Not lately. Matthew Nise is in a slump,
but if you take the overall performance that he's
provided to the Toronto Maple Leafs, being their
first line left winger, I think he's
overvalued. He's been living
up to his contract, which is nothing.
900 points. Which is rookie.
Yeah, but I don't know.
I'm really...
somebody somebody else that's me how dare you let's not we get a little too caught up in where
the leafs are right now and we don't take the season as a whole and i feel like in a matthew
nye's situation you know you have to look at a body of work for several months before now he's in
a 10 game slump i i do agree with you and he hasn't had a poor season no right now at this
very moment he's drowning and you know one thing that's gotten brought up is the university schedule
and a lot of guys really struggle to make that transition from playing what what is it 40
something games yeah something 46 about half yeah then to 82 games how many games is that that's so
many games hold on we we have a reason that i'm pointing over here no what's your name come on
over here look at this look at that and what is your name because you got a great you you've
created this amazing thing for Steve.
My name's Natalie Drake, and I
paint, and I painted that, and
What does it say for anybody listening
on audio tomorrow? It says that's
there's 82 games. That's so many games!
So many games!
By the way, you did a fantastic job.
Thank you so much for coming. Yeah, that's really nice.
I'm glad you guys like it.
It is so many games. It's a lot of games.
It's so many games.
Like, at this point, I know Sheldon
keeps taking a lot of heat, and the reason for that is
it's deserved, but I
also don't know if there's a combination you could throw out there that i'd be satisfied with i hope
and pray there's at least one change up front tonight and one change on the back is the change
nick robertson like what's the change well robertson's got to go in and i know a lot of
people are not gonna like this but i can almost guarantee yeah there's a sigh right there's a big
sigh at some point nize as a rookie coming off of college is gonna sit and i honestly think there
was a game a week or two ago where he was in uh as jeff merrick likes to put lache bow wow
with sheldon keith and there was an injury and i think if there wasn't an injury he probably
wouldn't have played um that doesn't mean he sucks it just means he keeps getting caught out
there for these 90 second two minute two plus minute shifts and it just i i've never understood
the term skating in quicksand it looks like he's skating in quicksand and uh you just need new
looks out there i don't know what nick robertson did i think it was keep have a dog it was defensive
it was defensive zone miscues it was playing with the puck at his own blue line i know but
not all of them are on an elc though yeah but yesterday uh max domey who like i don't really
have a problem with uh he goes out there takes a dumb penalty it costs them the game i know it
costs them the game get into the details about that because i hadn't thought of it that way well
he beat the crap out of an opponent which isn't allowed for like another several months and uh
and he he took he took a penalty soon it'll be legal he and that's when he'll thrive but uh he
took a penalty and the leafs ran out of miracles uh the miracle was you begin the period down one
against the canucks marner is heroic like he blocks a shot uh the block steal goal
it was the sequence by mitch marner that's the mitch marner we know yes it was absolutely
incredible domi takes the second penalty very shortly after and then the leafs allow two
identical goals off of domi who sheldon keith i think is basically sub-tweeting uh through
through his words saying i don't know who out of the new guys i can trust that and because he can't
pick on Tyler Bertuzzi every game and then there's uh Mark Giordano who it was an enormous dive
it was an enormous dive but dude they're looking for it they called a cross check three minutes ago
what are you doing can't do that is what the call was so I I I said something that I immediately
felt silly about because I think Gio needs to sit doesn't mean I hate him it just I would like him
to sit but oh man he can't sit tonight why can't he sit tonight because he was captain he's the
former captain of the seattle kraken could never sit him does anyone remember that being a thing
yeah okay so a room full of liars big room full of liars you could never remember that at all
that's where we got him from yeah and yarn crow gun officially sort of adam do you have the ryan
reeves news yeah so ryan reeves did an interview with luke fox today uh and he said you know what
you know the headline of the article guys is that uh uh he hates the fact that he's being
scratched and you would expect that he would but one of the things that he says in this
he's talking about the recent injury or the knee injury you guys remember that right he
ran into the boards and because that was a big question here's the quote no no you stay back
stay back he had let me read this big question on last show where the hell is ryan reeves is
he still injured or is he healthy to play and they're just not playing he said i have very loose
knees i'm not done i have very loose knees i've torn both knees like a ton of times and i just
don't feel comfortable on the ice without these he's talking about braces anymore he said i've
tried taking them off and my knees are so loose that when i cut like to get out of bed the next
morning, something is going to pop out, so
I keep him on.
Yeah. Stop playing
hockey!
At that point, you've got to give it up.
Do you think that
when they called his agent, were they like, how are those knees?
Are they
feeling? Would you describe them as
loose? How long is the deal?
The deal is for two more years.
Three years for a guy
who can't get out of bed in the morning.
Brad.
82 times 3 is
246 games
that's so many games
you gotta do some due diligence
oh my gosh
and listen
if the Leafs lose tonight guys
and I don't know if anybody's realized this
because it's kind of crept up on them
that's 6 losses in 7 games
stop it Senators fans
stop it
You guys.
They have nothing left but shabby foot.
That's true, yeah.
That's so true.
On Ryan Reeves, is that on Bradtree Living for not doing more due diligence?
How dare you give three years to somebody who doesn't have knees?
I know.
No, the new guy's done great.
Who doesn't have knees?
I think two.
He's openly saying, I don't have knees.
He has knees.
They're just pointing all over the freaking place.
They're just in his shoes.
You understand that the whole bar just yelled loose?
About a man's knees?
About a 37-year-old man's knees!
He's 37.
That's bad.
So this is going to be a problem.
It's going to be a problem.
And you know, I think a lot of people give Trillibbing crap for the Klingberg thing.
He's not going to play.
So I don't think you need to worry about that as much.
But I think we're seeing a swing and a miss, and a swing and a miss, and a swing and a miss.
And when the new guy comes in, the new guy always gets a few, a strikeout.
That's a strikeout.
That was funny.
That's fair.
Now, I think we can't make a decision on Domi and Bertuzzi just yet.
Bertuzzi's metrics are really good.
I know you don't want to hear that, but they are.
Domi's been, I think he makes things happen, and he does max Domi things,
and you take the good with the bad.
So we can call that two strikes, two balls.
Yep.
Simon Benoit's got to be a pop fly at least.
Angel Hernandez over here.
I don't know.
I don't know, man.
Tyler Bertuzzi,
you ever watch
the Charlie Brown cartoons?
Yes.
He looks like Snoopy's brother.
He kind of does.
A few of you got that.
It's very niche,
but he looks just like him.
I got no idea
what you're talking about.
Google Snoopy's brother.
I promise you,
he looks just like him.
You don't need to Google
Snoopy's brother.
I don't know if I need to do that.
Him losing the tooth
the other night, too,
where he got cross-checked
in the mouth.
So I looked at the replay.
He got hit in the gums
where his tooth used to be.
The tooth was already missing.
Oh.
Yes.
I was confused as well.
Right.
So he was simply bleeding
from his gums,
which is only two minutes.
Is that...
Yeah, what is that?
How did that happen?
A bad league.
It's a cross-check,
not a high stick, right?
Yeah.
But isn't...
Oh, that's better.
Isn't the stick high
when you're cross-checking?
Adam, that's semantics.
Semantics?
It was a low cross-check.
I'm wrong, I guess.
I guess.
Oh, they're Snoopy's brothers.
They're Snoopy's brother.
Here, let me hold your phone.
Can anyone see this?
There you go.
You can all see it.
Yeah, I'm sure you can all see it.
Thanks.
Hold it up a little better.
There you go.
For the camera.
I like that.
Also, that's an Android user, everybody.
Let's point it.
It's not yours.
Liar.
Steve, how do you feel about Androids?
Stupid.
That's a long time deep cut.
Oh, well, I've tried them twice.
iPhone did break my phone.
But now we're on Apple Music
And podcasts
So check us out there
We're also on Google
We're also on Spotify
So what do you need to see?
The Leafs are playing the Kraken tonight
By the way, afterwards, obviously we're going to meet everybody
Steve's going to drive home
And watch what he can of the game
And then do an LFR
Which is commitment
Once or twice a year I've got to listen on the radio
So what
what do we need from the Seattle Kraken to feel good about ourselves?
Because if you remember last loss, did you say a loss?
No. Okay. All right. Yeah, that would help. Yeah.
So what, what do we, cause, cause Keefe said, you know, what,
the reporter asked him, what do we, what do we take away from the game?
And he said, we didn't get two points. Yeah. And you know what?
That is the way I'm looking at this. Like they're,
they're really struggling right now.
And that win against the Calgary flames was not a Mona Lisa,
but you know what it was an end to a four game skin and all of a sudden if you pull off a comeback
win over the Canucks next game it's almost almost like all is forgotten it certainly makes you feel
better about your recent history uh in the league so if you play a ho-hum game but you come out of
it with two points that's good enough get on the very long plane ride home and you can feel good
about yourself and build on it you'll lose it's six out of seven the fans are going to be really
pissed off but that team has got to be really pissed off at each other for five or six hours
in the air yeah how many card games do you think will be going on there and it matters it meant
like the leafs were not doing so good yeah then uh i they won one or two games we went to the
Leafs Canucks game in Toronto
Leafs had a comeback win there
couple fights the very
next time they were all together
long flight to
Sweden and they rode
it the whole way they won both their games
in Sweden they kept winning after they got
back I think it matters the plane
is magic tell them pilot
guy yeah
what's with the schedule
because they fly back home
to Toronto and they play Winnipeg
and then they fly to Winnipeg to play
Winnipeg. Why do they skip over
Winnipeg and then go back? Well, and remember
they just did California too. They did California
like a week and a half ago and then they
came home and they're like, we're here, okay, now we have to leave.
It's a low-key nightmare month
except you don't complain about doing
California because that means you have to play the teams
in California, which right
now is actually okay outside of the
Kiggs. Well, actually, the Leafs caught them
sort of in the middle of this downturn.
Then they play the Ducks who borderline
don't count.
And the Sharks who
I'm bullish on the Sharks
They should be at least 25th
Don't laugh
I'll hear you
Let's say hypothetical world
The Leafs get absolutely destroyed
Against Seattle tonight
Any chance Sheldon Keefe
Does not survive Monday
Sheldon Keefe will be
The head coach unless they lose
A billion games in a row
Is 6 of 7 a billion?
it's too many it's so many games but it's not too many games if that makes sense okay um like
listen uh cj whatever he says on the chris johnston show that's gospel and he said like
listen it's not going well right now but uh they have no immediate plans to get rid of sheldon
keith if you lose something like 10 straight that's when you throw your entire plan out the
window i don't think the oilers went into the season thinking they were going to fire jay
woodcroft but then they spent enough time in that crater and they said hey maybe we should crawl out
of it uh who should we hire i don't know mcdavid's junior coach dude that's not gonna work you can't
just hire mcdavid's junior coach and it worked immediately edmonton oilers are now third in the
pacific division by the guys uh when uh before when knoblock took over they were behind the san
jose sharks i believe yeah yeah so they've got 53 points and i believe that's one more than the
leafs so maybe a coaching change could work well okay so adam if you're brendan you're not firing
i don't i don't think so here's the thing here's what the leafs uh uh management group doesn't
like doing okay um smart things bell rogers i don't know if you guys ever are acquainted with
bell and rogers but what they don't like doing is ed your opinion not mine i don't work there
anymore. Go for it.
Cell phone bills
are coming up this week.
You guys don't like paying all that money?
Well, what they don't like doing
the politicians that they are
is putting your hard-earned cell phone bills
towards a coach who isn't coaching
for the team.
From what we know, when Mike
Babcock was let go like, what,
three, four years too early?
From what they expected, because they signed him to a gigantic deal.
Well, let's be careful with too early.
Not too early, but it was, you know.
Well, for the contract, anyway.
That contract, sitting on the books for that long,
changed the policy internally at MLSC.
And what they said was, we're not doing that again.
And if you remember this summer, even though they didn't need to,
they extended Sheldon Keefe two years.
Right? Two years.
So you're paying a guy $3.5 million again to sit again,
and you've got to pay another coach another $3 million again.
And you know what? You're in a desperate situation.
So if you're calling, I don't know who you're calling.
Everybody seems to want Berube.
If you've watched Blues games, you do not want Berube.
We got a long boo from the back.
Yeah, thank you.
Boo, Berube.
He might have just been saying Berube.
Yeah, he might have.
I'm not sure.
I was saying Berube.
I don't think Berube's the guy.
I don't think Gerard Gallant's the guy.
I think you're kind of stuck this year with what you got.
And if you've been listening to CJ, if you've been listening to Freedj,
All those guys are saying, listen, not expecting much from the Leafs at the trade deadline this year.
And it's because what have they shown us?
When you look at, and people forget this, they only really remember the David Ayers game for the game.
It was a lovely game.
Right after that game, they were supposed to put pen to paper with Zach Bogosian.
He was a free agent.
They were going to sign him.
They were going to make a few trades at the trade deadline.
And they told him, Zach, we're going to save you from us.
Yeah.
That's how bad it was.
So they didn't sign him.
And then, of course, we got into the pandemic, and it was brutal.
But the point is, Dubas didn't believe in that team enough to start making trades or start signing people for him.
And it seems like that's how they feel this is now.
Now, I don't put this at the feet of Bradtree Living yet.
Oh.
Yet.
Listen, I don't like the free agent signings either.
I know.
I know.
I know.
Exactly.
That's so many days.
i think i think you got to give him a summer where he didn't walk in right after the draft
yeah so wait they're they're the richest team like in the sport is making decisions based on
we don't want to pay a guy to not work for us right that is correct that is how big telecom
works that is not a general manager problem that is above general manager so it lands with
ownership, and it lands with the
president who's been here for 11 years.
Yeah. And if you're not
blaming Brad for the team
construction, I blame
Shanahan, because he has been at the head
of it this entire time, and
from what we know, he's been controlling
a lot of Dubas' moves. He wants the
core to stay together, and if the team
is a mess right now, there's a
person you can blame. Yeah.
And I think that that is going to
be very, very interesting, and I know you probably
don't care about the business side enough, but
the president, the new guy,
is going to be looking at everything.
Keith Pelley. We all worked under Keith Pelley at Rogers
one time. Yeah, not the president of the Leafs.
The president of MLSC. Yeah, so they got a brand
new guy. His name is Keith Pelley. He used to run TSN.
Then he ran Rogers
Sportsnet, obviously, and then signed
the NHL deal that Rogers now has.
Like, this guy has made some moves
in the industry. Then he went
and he ran the European Golf Tour for
five or six years. As you do.
I remember reading an article that's like,
wow Keith Pelley's a real innovator and it's like
and I read the byline and he's allowing
the golfers to wear shorts
and I was like
listen
and a game as traditional as golf that's
not easy to do and it's in Europe
so listen so he's come in
he's known for changing things up and I
wonder if you don't sit there and
think he's got to be looking at the
Leafs top down and the Raptors
top down and going how are we feeling about things
you know what we did it everyone congrats
we've come full circle
We went from...
Dude, there is a website dedicated to the Leafs
called Pension Plan Puppets.
It was about the ownership of the Leafs
getting in the way,
and now here we are.
We got a new guy in charge,
and we're like, please interfere
with the daily operations of this team.
Well, I think we gave it 10 years.
Right?
Adam, that's not true.
I think how much patience do we need?
We gave it 11.
Oh, okay.
11 years.
That's so many years.
That's so many years.
So many years, yeah.
Believe me, I thought of that, but I was like,
you're overdoing it, Steve.
Just tap the sign.
It really is amazing that she painted that.
It's such a nice sign!
It's really nice.
That's awesome.
That's really cool.
I love when people walk up
and they're like, hey, we're so glad you put on this event
and they hand you something and you're like, wow,
I'm so much more talented than you.
I'm like,
we just sit here and talk about the leaves
and she's painted that. It's amazing.
So, wow, you did it while watching us.
Oh, my goodness.
Wow.
That means at some point you had to ignore us.
So, here's the other question, and I don't know who's getting the start tonight.
Sammy.
Sammy's getting the start.
Okay.
Sammy did good in his last game, guys.
Right?
Yes.
We're rooting for Sammy, right?
Here's the bar.
The team let him down.
Oh, yeah.
The team let him down.
Here's the bar.
Don't allow six goals on 21 shots.
That's what it was yesterday, man.
I know Jones has been good, but that was...
Well, 50 to 21 were the shots.
Or 48 to 21.
Give the boys a chance to win.
Amen.
Now, I did want to ask you guys about this, too,
because I think it's important.
If they did make a move at the deadline,
would you be against...
And Steve and I talked about this on the car on the way up
So I just want to run this by
We have run this by Steve
I want to know if the room
Would be against them selling
At the deadline
If you're going in
Sell what?
Sell what?
Bertuzzi for one
Bertuzzi could go
If you don't believe in the team, Domi could go
Domi wants to be here
You want me to set this room on friggin fire?
Simone Benoit
can you believe he's that guy yeah the room is like so you're talking he's him tj tj brody i
think you could yeah ufa in the same way that uh bill's fans are shoveling out their arena i will
drive him oh wow whatever destination you're out on brody yeah well like i'm out on forcing him at
this point okay i cannot blame he's why is he still on the top pair and then lilligren goes
out there yesterday and goes here's why like yeah dude he was bad he went and he just when he puts
together a few games and you're like hey that guy's pretty good he's like oh sorry let me correct that
for you and handle this thing like a gosh darn grenade yes what about bertuzzi the coach i think
hates him like as a player
and possibly human being
I don't know about their personal relationship
but it just feels like
you know when the
core four makes a mistake it's
you know what I'm sorry
and we should never fight again
we should never fight again and I'm really
I'm sorry about that
Tyler
get to the bench faster
you Charlie Brown
cartoon looking jerk
Willie doesn't apply to that.
Like, Willie will get benched in the snap moment.
He's all over Willie.
You're right.
Yeah, yeah.
I don't think he's in that little bubble
of Sheldon Keefe's, like, petting bubble
that you were doing there.
Petting bubble?
Yeah, he was petting people.
Does that make you uncomfortable?
Yes, a little.
If I'm pretending that that's Matthews and Marner,
that's weird.
That was hot.
Steve just kissed a hockey puck
if you're listening to this.
With T.J. Brody, he's become that guy who's got to play on the first lines
because Sheldon Keefe can't trust anybody.
You know, at least T.J. Brody's been here for a long time
and has shown that he can be a reliable defenseman.
Everybody else is whatever we can get at you, magic beans.
So this is why I keep trying to look at the big picture
because everyone's like, fire the coach.
And, okay, I personally am open to it.
but fire the coach and then do what you you see how the roster higher dom do charm oh god are you
trying to get knocked don't you know don't you dare wish that evil on me who who said that when
it comes to firing terrible coach when you fire him it becomes what it happens to every other
team that fires their head coach now it's on the players so if we have a new coach in there if this
doesn't work now now we know it's roster construction so you move on from to that i think
i think well we're obviously thinking about like what's happened with the oilers and the oilers
have always had flaws but even when they were losing all these games there was still an element
of huh that's odd yeah that's odd and then the leafs did make some fundamental changes and you
go okay let's see how this goes and now it's a little bit of mystery box is the roster just this
bad, or do the Leafs not
have the right coach right now? The answer might
be both, which is worse.
Do you want Guy Boucher hockey?
Do we want...
Do we want...
I don't know if Sens fans...
Sens fans, do we want Guy Boucher
hockey? We do not?
By the way, they're both
Sens fans, and they're both wearing Tim Stutzla jerseys.
Hey!
No, boo you!
Boo you! That guy is killing me in fantasy
this year. Tell him to mix
in a goal he's brutal he is killing me right he had two today i still lost by like 40
brutal you made me lose to ian tullock i'll never forgive him what do you think uh stutzler's
contract steve uh not as good as i once thought that's i mean it's still good dude he's gonna be
no you're supposed to tell him to take less money because he said he'd play for less oh sorry
He said he would play for less, and it turns out he's a liar
because there are so many numbers between $775,000 and $8 million
that he could have picked, but he chose that.
Which number is he playing close to at the moment, closer to?
The $775,000 or the $8 million?
Well, in terms of value, I'd take Benoit.
No.
So I'd say that.
There's my answer.

all right now listen what because you guys are all here uh we did want to open it up to some
questions and that sort of thing if you've got anything burning that you've always wanted to ask
we can't get to everybody but if you do just put up your hand and i'll i'll start uh we'll start
with you with the glasses sir i'll go first how do you fly a plane what's your name all right go
ahead jason how happy is kyle dubas right now well let's check where pittsburgh from jason
How happy are most people who make $7 million American a year?
So here, I'll tell you this.
So the New York Islanders just fired their head coach.
They have a point up on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
And that's pre-firing.
So listen, I said, I'm not going to lie, I'm going to own this.
I said the Penguins sucked and that Dubas had a bad July 1st, and he did.
And it's not because he's a bad GM.
It's because they're committed to a plan.
And he came in under that plan knowing this is probably not going to work.
outdated and what he now gets to do is he gets to go to fenway sports and entertainment
owner of the pittsburgh penguins and say okay i did it your way for a year now now that we have
42 million more that you're going to deposit in my bank account over the next six years how about
we do it my way and i think over the next 18 months starting in june if i were a penguins fan
i'd be very excited because i still think crosby's going to be good i still think you could probably
hang on to malkin i don't know about letang i don't know how he still plays hockey it's crazy
and and you know like the amount of career threatening injuries that guy has had yes they
need a they need a better goalie they signed him to a bad deal i don't know why they did that
they're gonna have to figure a lot of things out adam i'm sorry the islanders are sixth in the
metro with a negative 21 goal differential penguins are plus 15 blue jackets are beneath
them with a negative 34 and like even the capitals are in there at negative 24 so you look at the
penguins and you go their numbers are good why aren't they winning games and if that isn't kyle
dubas in a nutshell yeah they went a month without a power play goal
they have an identity steve you don't remember the month where they didn't score a power play
goal and we talked about it and then they finally did yeah but there's a regression to the mean and
We all need to wait.
It's not coming.
They didn't change anything.
It's just we talked about how bad they were.
And then they started to score.
That's what it was.
By the way, now they've gone back to normal.
Watch.
They're going to light whoever they're playing next for three.
There's a real case that there's a lot of bad luck with the Penguins is all I'm saying.
Yeah, I bet they would blame it on that.
And if that isn't Kyle Tobis in a nutshell.
Yeah.
The Penguins have a plus 15 goal differential.
So do the metropolitan leading New York Rangers.
Hockey's a bizarre sport.
Bizarre, bizarre sport.
That's so stupid.
It's crazy.
And funny, and I love it.
Next question.
We'll go to this side of the room.
Yes, sir, with the Santa Claus hat on.
All right.
Your name?
Reese.
Okay, Reese.
What's the question?
The question was, with the current situation,
you know who also players, how do they fix the defense?
So how do the Leafs fix the defense?
Yes.
When you've got so many people making so much money up front.
With all the money tied up in, quote, you know who.
Voldemort and the Death Eaters
Which makes sense
They seem powerful on paper
Lose to a bunch of children
That's actually really
Wow
Apropos
Wow
Dude
I keep coming back to this
And I don't want to be
There was a comment
in the compliment section recently there was when did steve become this guy
and and it's just uh i keep going back to they can't go forward with this many guys making this
much money so you're asking how do they do it and the reason i keep bringing up is i don't see a way
to do it like in order for this to work you need to like the leafs have done some smart things
even though they've decided robertson cannot hit the ice um there's a guy who might work out in
your lineup you need young cheap talent up front when you're paying all those guys that money you
also have matthew nize you have some other guys who might come into that situation uh who the hell
do they have on the back end who's that guy actually i know the answer i know the answer
Well, Simon Benoit is that guy, but he's already playing.
Is he a noted Alan Walsh client?
Well, I do love Wild Bill Lagason.
We love Will Lagason.
But I just want to tell you what Sheldon Keefe has decided tonight.
We've got the lines.
Let's go.
Robert Beloy just showed me this, and I know why.
So first off, Bobby McMahon is coming out.
What?
Nick Robertson will be in for him.
Hooray.
Hooray.
We love Nicky Bob.
Nicky Bobby.
Okay, second one.
Mark Giordano is going to sit tonight.
Okay.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
That is a surprising one.
Against his former team?
Yeah, given his history with Seattle.
Long story to history with that franchise.
Connor Timmons is coming in.
No!
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
It's great that everybody here knew what that meant, by the way.
Even the Sens fans are like, oh, that sucks for you.
So wait, who's he playing?
Do you have the combo?
I'll get the line.
The pairing, sorry.
They're not out yet, but Samsonov is, quote, hungry to get in the net.
Sorry, can I just point something out?
Yeah, we don't have the line.
This is coming from David Alter.
who's like the biggest Detroit Lions fan in the world.
Yeah.
So he waited for the game to be over,
and now he's like,
all right, here's a bunch of information.
I love it.
So what is that?
Riley Brody,
McCabe Lilligren,
Benoit Timmons?
Please don't be Benoit Timmons.
You know what?
Don't do that to Benoit.
I'm listening to this one on the radio.
Oh, man.
I don't want to watch this.
All right.
Next question.
We're going to go to this side of the room.
We're going to go at the back with the long-haired black sweater right there.
Your name is?
Hi, Andrew.
What's your question?
Do you have thoughts on Patrick Waugh of the Islanders?
Jesse, Steve, I think you do.
I'm excited for what could be the most chaotic tenure of any head coach ever.
If you guys don't remember or if you do remember,
Patrick Waugh tried to fight Bruce Boudreaux.
He sure did.
In his first game as Avs head coach, if I remember correctly.
He would also love, he loved pulling the goalie with 10 minutes left.
And I pray to the hockey gods that we get more of that.
I just want whatever weird shenanigans Patrick Waugh has thought up
as time as head coach of the Ramparts in Quebec.
I hope that he's bringing it all to the NHL
and we just get chaos out of the Islanders.
That would be the most fun thing.
He's at very least creative, Jesse.
Yeah.
We need more of that in hockey.
Just wild people doing crazy things.
Well, he's certainly that.
I mean, the man who invented talking to your goalpost.
That's real, by the way.
He used to talk to his goalpost.
He also used to do this head nod thing.
You guys remember this?
We'd just be sitting there like this.
Well, he was also one of the first guys to have the neck dangly thing.
Oh, yeah, the plastic piece.
Is that why he was doing it?
Very important.
Trying to get it out.
It looked like some sort of mating thing from like a wildebeest.
I saw a TikTok recently of this thing with this huge nose,
and it wagged it around.
Oh, I saw that one.
We all have the same life, basically, with the internet.
We're just all on the same algorithm.
First of all, for entertainment purposes, perfect.
Chef's kiss, yes.
Chef's kiss, it's amazing.
However, I would like to point out a reason to keep Sheldon Keefe.
He has more playoff series wins than Patrick Waugh.
stop it well patrick waugh had three seasons as the avs head coach three seasons as the yeah and
whose fault is that he quit yeah he quit on his buddy who he won cups with and uh like producer
drew was like yeah sakic traded away some guy he wanted to keep and i'm like oh who was that
and he's like i think it was nick holden i'm like nick holden that's who you quit over
sense fans question mark like that patrick waugh was feeling that strongly i didn't think we'd go
one of the Sens fans this much, but you know, they've been really
reliable resource here. Yeah, well,
you know, it's about time we punch back.
Right?
Like,
he doesn't, for a guy with the
hype that he has, he
does not have the NHL head coaching
resume. He's one in junior,
but it's not apples to oranges,
or apples to apples.
Rather, Sens fans, I'll go to you again.
You know who won a Memorial Cup?
DJ Smith.
That was
that was a sound
that came out
like
he won it when
that's how long
he won it when
Vancouver was competing
for the Stanley Cup
the last time
hot damn
yeah
right and now
he's got to come back
by the way
I just want you guys
to know for the person
that asked
the reports
out of the Islanders
practice today
is that Patrick Walsh
stopped some of the
drills dead
and screamed
at the players
oh gosh
so
however long
this lasts
we're in for a ride. You left out the most important
part. While clean-shaven.
Oh, Lou made
him shave. Made him shave.
None of those players should be talking back
to him, though, because the Islanders, for
the hot start that they had, they had
a 12-2-2 run to start the
season. Right now, they sit
23rd in goals for, 26th
in goals against, 29th
on the penalty kill, 31st
in shots against per game.
Every single aspect of the Islanders
right now is bad.
They're making the playoffs.
They needed a change.
Lane Lambert couldn't do this anymore, so none of those players
can say anything.
That and Patrick Wilde, punch him in the throat.
Islanders were 2-6-2 in their last 10.
So that's not great.
And you know what pushed it over the edge?
A loss to the Blackhawks.
Which you can't do.
We got two of those.
That's great.
I'm going to take from this side of the room again.
Who do we have? Orange hat, sir.
Steve, question?
Yeah, so obviously with the Leafs' goaltender situation right now,
we know it's not the best.
We know that Sam Snow is going back and everything like that.
What do you think the Leafs could do to potentially complement them
and complement that goaltending situation
rather than hindering themselves further down the line
because that's all they seem to be doing, right?
Yeah, I mean, it's...
Repeat the question for people on audio.
So the question is, what do they do about the goaltending?
Yeah, what do they do about the goaltending?
uh basically how do they accentuate and help the goaltending basically like there's one i mean
there's one option go out there and get a better goalie well that's easy you know uh joseph wall
was playing fantastically he's coming off a high ankle sprain so like will we see him at the crazy
balls of the walls 5 10 bell saves a game uh level this season or is that gonna have to be a next
season thing it's weird they know how to just say hey you're not getting any shots tonight
like we all talk about the 42 year old zamboni driver who works for them the the leafs mustered
i think it was seven shots against that guy seven or eight um and they and they did score
thank you pierre engvall for making him the goalie of record in that game so that he got a win
allowing goals is what made him the goalie of record by the way no one ever mentions that
uh allowing two goals um but there was a game where sammy was really fighting it before he
got sent down to the marlies i think it was against nashville and they just decided uh
we're the best defensive team in the world tonight and they allowed 18 shots i think
and he got the shutout because yeah he only faced 18 shots and then they hit the ice like
the next game and it's like they completely forget all of it so jones i think listen he's better than
we probably give him credit for but i think a big part of his success with the leafs so far
has been they've made his job relatively easy and then the canucks game happened and he just
he turned into vapor yes completely turned into vapor so um i think one way to make your
goaltending better value go there and get a better decor like the goaltending there are aspects of
that where we're like this could work we could have enough guys this guy could come it so i saw
someone with a dennis hildeby leafs jersey and it's not a marley's and it is a leafs jersey
that's incredible wow he's not on the bench it could be could be when when it could be bench
warren yes um but uh i i don't know if you could put george vesna himself in there with this decor
and expect a much different result you you need you need uh to not allow 50 uh power plays i mean
the pen one thing that is killing this team goaltending defense all of it the penalty kill
sucks and like how do we go from Sheldon Keefe is scratching Mark Giordano for Connor Timmons
and the next game when Giordano gets back in the lineup he'll be on the first PK pair
please make it make sense I don't get it I don't get it so there's a long answer that was a long
that was a surprisingly long answer and then you got your back into it and everything it was crazy
I arched it.
All right.
Yes, go ahead.
If we get, like, an Olympic or not Olympic, a world championship.
Best on best.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Will we get a line of...
That's not the question.
That's not the question.
I'll repeat the question.
Don't worry.
I can see her.
That's why.
We can't see with the lights.
okay so the question is so if if we do get a best on best tournament which will be canada
united states finland sweden and that's it sorry about your luck don't care where you're from
sorry czech republic russia we can understand at the moment i get it but like come on um if we get
a mcdavid crosby bedard line is what she was asking about has there ever been that much talent
on the team? And the answer is yes.
The 87 Canada Cup.
I was going to say that's got to be the only thing
that's close. Yeah, because you had
Gretzky and Lemieux
playing together.
Was that LeFleur?
She's referring to more the generational
divide there of
three players from three different
eras. Oh, that's a good point.
If I understand it correctly, right? That's a really good point.
Yeah, yeah. You know what? I don't know.
I don't think we've ever had that. That's a really good point
actually now that I think about it.
87, 97, 05.
I don't think so.
I mean, you could look at...
Yes, he was born in 2005.
We're all old.
Yes.
Yes.
I hate it.
I hate it.
Depression.
Man, remember that full season lockout
and Conor Bedard goes,
no, I wasn't alive.
We were in high school.
Yep.
Oh, my gosh.
Cool.
Well, everybody's sad again.
It's been a way to bring the mood down.
That's a really good point, and I would really like that to happen.
You've got to pick the room back up.
That's so many games.
The Leafs have 189 games in a row without a shutout.
What's that?
Wow.
Which was the 80s, and that was crazy, yeah.
Yep.
How?
How?
Well, okay.
Yeah, it's a pretty cool record for the Leafs.
It's cool, and I don't think there is a record,
and I think it's, isn't it Detroit that holds the overall record?
Or do they pass Detroit?
Flames.
What is it?
So they'd have to do that next year.
So 264 is the record that is held by the Flames in what year?
In 1981.
The Leafs are at 196, you said?
189.
That's more than three full seasons.
They got three years to go to try and beat this.
So it's really what's impressive and what's exciting about the NHL right now is that goal scoring is up to levels that we not 80s levels.
Like if you go watch an 80s game, by the way, you can watch them like all for free on YouTube.
I don't know who's uploading these clips, but they're amazing.
And thank you, because I get to watch like playoff games and weird Molson commercials from 1986.
Set your phone to steal.
Yeah.
But what's crazy is the amount of scoring is up.
You know, we're starting to see guys, McDavid, Dreisaitl, hit the 120, 130, 140 point range.
And that's where the NHL is really at a sweet spot.
The reason that all of our, like, moms and dads were like, oh, hockey sucks now compared to what it was in the 80s is because people want to see goals.
And for whatever reason, you know, the neutral zone trap and goaltending pads getting bigger and all the other things.
um things like the leafs being second overall ever in the amount of goals in a game or whatever
however you describe that record uh non-shutout non-shutout it makes things fun it's it's fun
when records are approached it's fun when records are broken and so the game actually that listen i
don't love the nhl business sometimes and their decisions and i think we all know why but i think
the product the hockey itself i don't know if it's ever been better no it hasn't it's amazing
every i you know what wayne gretzky has been such a gift uh on tnt because you know he's not lying
when someone does the michigan and he gets on tv and he just goes i can't do that it's true i could
never do that and it's true and you might go well it was it was it was his equipment or blah blah
blah yeah that's part of it like it's not that he wasn't talented enough it's that even if he was
he was playing with a basically straight wooden stick.
Yeah.
It just wasn't possible.
And a very thin plastic bowl as a helmet.
Yes, and someone would have taken a baseball swing in his neck
if he tried it.
Yeah.
Well, and Gretzky probably,
what's cool about the evolution of the game is YouTube.
YouTube has changed hockey.
What was it a couple of years ago?
There was a kid out of Japan who had this crazy sizzle reel.
And a lot of the stuff that he learned,
And he learned from watching hockey YouTube videos.
And so the Michigan, all the kids and junior can do it now because what do they watch?
They watch Zegras do it.
And then they log on their computers and they watch it over and over again.
And they practiced it.
Pavel Barber.
Oh, yeah.
Pavel Barber, he uploaded a between-the-legs pass.
And it was used in an NHL game.
It led to a scoring chance.
It didn't end up going in.
I saw him have a back-and-forth with someone.
But, like, these guys are scouring the internet.
and like it it's probably just passively they're not like ah yeah i'm gonna surf the explorer tab
and try to you know earn a million dollar contract or whatever you know they're just in their they
just love hockey they just love hockey and then they're on the ice the next day a few days later
and they're like well there's this i could try this and oh it worked and like there was a an
underrated moment uh i can't remember if it was the canucks game or the one before david camp was
behind the opposing net, he thought
about it.
He thought about it.
Do you see what I saw?
And you were like, did he? He did.
And we know he did because
he's tried it before and that is David
somehow Kampf. By the way,
there is a David Kampf
jersey in the house tonight.
Where are you?
Where are you?
He's wearing it.
Oh, he changed.
Why did you change up your David Kampf jersey?
You didn't want to be that guy here.
Okay.
All right.
We got time for another question, and then we're going to meet and greet afterwards.
So, you know what?
I haven't gone, like, far back in that part of the room.
Does anybody back there have anything?
No?
We're going to be silent, okay?
There's somebody sitting right here.
You sitting down.
What's your question?
Sir.
Sir.
The question is, is this the first time do you think Sheldon Keefe has felt handcuffed
by the core four?
I do think...
Did you just say, nah, he likes that?
Wow.
As in, Sheldon Keefe likes being handcuffed.
Girl.
All right.
All right.
What are we working with?
I didn't know it was that kind of a party tonight.
You're taking an Uber, right?
Oh, you're dating the Sens fan?
Well, that explains it.
That's okay.
What was the question again?
The question was about does he feel handcuffed to the core for?
I think it's creeping in for the first time.
And the only reason I say that is he benched and demoted John Tavares.
Did that happen to him as a rookie on the Islanders?
How long did that really last, though, Steve?
Max Domi on the second line.
Mitch Marner on the third line happened for a game.
Like, that was a full game.
Hey, Babs had him down there for, like, a couple weeks.
Yeah, but he was, like, 20 at that time.
You know, it's a little different.
Whatever line Marner's on in that situation, if he's not with Matthews,
okay, whatever line Matthews is on is the first line.
Whatever line Marner is on, if he's not with Matthews, is the second line.
And then there's John Tavares,
which should say something about how his season has gone recently.
I think that game, it was JT and Willie, was it not?
That's got to be the second line.
Mitch Marner was on the third line
with Domi and Yarncroke.
Let's call a spade a spade here, Steve.
Why are you protecting Mitch?
They did list it as the second line.
They officially listed it
on the... They put the graphic up
on Twitter.
They had Domi, Yarncroke, Marner.
As if we were like, okay.
You can put them on
whatever line you want. That's the first line.
You can't lie to me.
What do you do about...
I'm going to add on to that question.
so you're Sheldon Keefe you're feeling handcuffed
you may like it at home
but at work
what do you now do
play the 5.5
million dollar winger who has
six goals nope
play the 3 million dollar
center who can't play defense nope
play the
William Lagasin ever nope
play Nick Robertson who's got some potential
nope play Ryan Reeves who has loose
knees nope
play your most expensive
goaltender nope
like I think he's
feeling handcuffed and I think it's by
more things than the core four
there it is
thank you for the giggity
alright now we just want to say
to everybody who was
here for the skate for everybody that came to the game
for everybody who's here tonight we just want
to say how much we appreciate coming here
and how much we love you and thank you
for allowing us to do this for a living
because we would not be able to
if it were not for you.
So thank you all so much for being here.
Yeah.
Well, we'll figure that out.
But we've got some times
for some meet and greet
and that sort of thing afterwards.
And yeah, I think that's it.
I think we're, yeah.
Great ending.
Yeah, yeah.
Let's go Leafs!
Let's go Leafs!
Let's go Leafs!
I hate this.
