Panago Pizza presents S.T.B.
The Steve Dangle Podcast with your hosts, Steve Dangle and Adam Wilde.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the stage, Steve, Adam, and Jesse.
The Steve Dangle Podcast, live!
Ladies and gentlemen,
thanks so much for coming tonight.
Look at all the people.
look at all the people they're beautiful holy god there's actually way more from up here yeah
yeah for sure that's for sure hey thanks to everybody who waited in line thanks to everybody
who came early thanks to everybody who already said hi we're so so so excited i uh i think we've
been waiting to do this four years so thankfully we finally got it going this is great except for
the one we did at the panago where there were like eight people right was anybody here there
that day yes there was i know i know there you go yeah you got one so okay put your hand up or
yell very loudly if you are from dallas fort worth that's right we got one damn
put your hand up or yell very loudly if you're here from sweden
put your hand up yell out if you're from outside of the gta
to you we say thank you we don't deserve it but it's so cool that you're here thank you so much
to the rest of you it means nothing nothing yeah what did you get on the go train whatever
whatever i did that uh we figured we should start the show by saying that philadelphia has basically
eliminated the florida panthers from the playoffs it's four nothing philadelphia over the new york
rangers five there you go see there you go they must have just scored um they got to yell that
you're wrong in person did it feel good i bet it did they got it out of the way so early
so early right away like opening five adam idiot so live reddit sorry it's true um so i think you
know listen guys we want to have a fun show today we want to make this a thing that we do more often
but the first thing i think we need to acknowledge is uh we've lost a couple people in the hockey
community and we would be remiss if we did not mention uh what happened last night with the
humble broncos we obviously have all seen that on twitter today um it's a terrible terrible tragedy
as far as 14 people uh last i checked it was uh 14 fatalities another 14 in hospital three critical
yes so it's bad uh i'm sure you've seen steve tweet out the gofundme link apparently they're
already at they've crossed one million have they crossed a million already they have which is
So, round of applause to everybody that has donated.
If you can donate, please do that tonight.
Obviously, it's on Steve's Twitter.
Jesse and I will tweet it out as well.
I've retweeted it, so it would be great if you could find that.
And also, I think we all just want to give a quick shout-out to our boy, the Butterfly Child.
Jonathan Petra.
Yeah.
Another round of applause for him.
Well-deserved.
He was a hero.
He was a hero.
Oh, yeah.
And, I mean, I just, I don't know, I wish we had that much, like, energy for life.
Hold your microphone a little closer to your face.
That he had.
Okay.
Yeah, there we go.
So we've got, people have yelled at you for being wrong.
You've given me instructions.
It's a great way to transition.
Jeez.
Are you enjoying your beer?
Have you had your beer yet?
I am.
I am enjoying it currently.
This is his first, is it your first post book beer?
I think it is.
No, I had one last night.
So round of applause to that, right?
Woo!
All right.
Did you know that Steve is writing a book?
Written a book.
Oh, written.
Written a book.
Say it with your chest, Adam.
that's right that's well i was i was just saying to people like i i'm confident that the first
half is really good the second half reads strikingly like a book that was written um
in like eight days so every essay you submitted that yeah a little bit yeah about 46 000 words
in eight days so before we get into the hockey talk today guys there's something uh something
that we need to address and it's something that i we need your decision on we couldn't make this
decision ourselves jesse's actually completely unaware of what we're going to talk about right
now what the hell's going on um but it has to do with me personally and it has to do with whether
or not i'm a bad teammate for the show or a bad husband or both what spoiler alert it's both
so a little context here it's very important i'm gonna make my case i'm assuming that was you um
so basically what happened was the one thing i've always asked for for my birthday is leafs tickets
i've always asked for leafs tickets i've said just take me to a game i don't need anything
else please just one time i'd like to go to a leaf game and so having been in a relationship
for four years and that never happening i thought what are the chances what are the chances so
tonight is obviously game 82 of the schedule and my wife for my 30th birthday decided to surprise
me with Leafs and Montreal Canadiens tickets because I'm a Habs fan that's right that's a
good point yeah and the thing yeah shout out to the other Habs fan in the building it's nice that
I you know we have each other so Adam what are you doing so when the show wraps up I'm kind of
gonna leave for a few hours you won't even notice that i'm gone and then i'm gonna come back and
then i'm gonna come back so am i bad teammate bad husband or both jesse yes that's the correct
answer you are a terrible person if you could think about us for a second maybe you would just
stick around i mean okay and i get that but my question to you is who's turning those tickets
down anyone here yeah crickets that's what i thought oh yeah thank you i appreciate that
no i just it's just really interesting hearing you talk your way out of this grave
it's just because i mean you weren't expecting her to get the tickets so you've already displayed a
lack of faith in your excellent wife your brand new wife your first birthday as her husband the
love of her life her soulmate even and then you're gonna leave us you're gonna leave us and also
what are you to me then to please go in to describe that too because i mean that would
make it even worse wouldn't it what what am i to you yeah i mean tell tell me about it i am your
soulmate also but i share you because sharing is caring and that's how that works okay all right
I just, I don't know.
It's just, I want to hear how you talk your way out of this.
Steve.
Yes.
Does tonight mean anything to you?
Like this event.
Does it mean anything?
Jesse, this event means so much to me because our listeners mean so much to me.
Don't they mean so much to you?
They do.
They mean everything to me.
Game on, baby.
Exactly.
Well, tonight's game 82 of the Leafs season.
That's right.
And there's a lot on the line.
Oh, tons.
Like, their already clinched playoff spot?
Yeah, well, I mean, they might move up in the...
No.
Well, okay, they might move down...
Uh-uh.
Oh.
So how would you describe that game?
Maybe with the word meaningless?
Certainly for the Leafs.
I mean, the only team this has any meaning for would be the Habs,
because they could technically move up.
So it would really only mean something to a Habs fan.
I just, I don't know.
I'm putting together some very interesting pieces, I think.
I just think it's funny how.
I've been listening to a lot of Harry Potter
and I think I'm really good at solving mysteries now.
Yeah, you're on the seventh book now, right?
That's where it all kind of comes together.
I just solved this mystery.
Yeah, well.
Well, thank you.
I'm sure we all hope you have a really good time
at the game tonight, don't we, guys?
Oh, come on.
Come on.
You all said you would go.
Dude, we got louder cheers for Fort Worth.
Yeah.
All right, fine.
Fine, fine, fine.
All right, let's talk about the Leafs and Habs tonight
because I would like to move off of this
and stop sweating so much.
So the expected lines tonight, everybody.
Hyman Matthews, Nylander.
Marlo Kadri, Marner.
Or Mark Hadmar.
Van Riemsdyk, Bozak Brown.
Oh, tepid, tepid.
Ooh, you guys are a tough crowd.
And Komarov, Placanik, Kapanen.
All right.
I heard a distinct, ah, from this section.
Remember when Leo Komarov was the guy that made the all-star team from the Leafs?
Hey, Uncle Leo.
He's the only guy on the team that scores.
Ah, his great handlebar mustache.
He looks like the Finnish Hulk Hogan.
This is great.
I love him.
I love that he's on our team.
Two years pass.
Screw him.
I'm done with him.
I want the guy who's played four games instead.
Come on.
A little bit of love for Uncle Leo.
I love Andreas Johnson, too.
I still say 13 forwards, 5D.
Why not?
I agree.
So the Leafs defense tonight looks like Riley Hainsey.
Gardner Zaitsev.
Dermott.
Polak.
how did I know how did I know it would go this way sorry
Dermot spring polack so here's the deal and Freddie Anderson of course Freddie
so Freddie tonight can pass Andrew Raycroft for all time
and Eddie Belfort I don't mind if Ed Belfort keeps it but there's nothing we
can do to negate
Andrew Raycroft
other than
winning tonight.
That's right.
Like if Ed Belfort
held it on his own
I'd be like
well that's pretty cool.
He doesn't.
I hope Andrew Raycroft
isn't at home
watching this going
damn it.
Damn it.
I mean he might be.
What's he doing?
Last I checked
well so he went
I know cruel
a little bit cruel
he went like all the way
down to the Italian league
which I hear is a lot of fun
but it's not the best
hockey in the world
but I think he's worked
all the way back up
to Sweden tier one.
Good for him.
Good for him.
round of applause for andrew ray croft student tier one that's not that's not bad i think you
gave that exactly what that deserved a high pitch good for him good for him that's good serious kind
of hockey question should anderson be playing tonight would you not rest him and yeah that is
that's a really good question and and we're gonna get to a team or two teams that are actually
they've they've basically scratched everybody because there's a couple teams tonight that are
not playing anybody of their of note on their roster i i mean here's the problem it takes one
hit to the head it takes one errant knee and i'm not saying i'm not saying that it's going to happen
but i mean look at what happened to james brymer when he had his brain scrambled a couple years
ago enough to tonight's show come on man you don't gotta put that evil energy i'm just saying
brendan gallagher plays for the for the canadians yes but does brian gianta no not anymore not
anymore so we're safe you're right you're right unless we're not but i think we're safe um so this
is the thing that mike babcock said in the press conference outside of what he had to say about uh
humble saskatchewan which was beautiful and i encourage you to look it up he says the line i
just gave you those lines that's what he's going with for at least the first game of the playoffs
how do we feel about it are we good i guess okay wow there's a cheer cheer if this is 103 point
team and you guys aren't okay with this soon to be 105 yeah but cheer if you're surprised
exactly right okay one guy all right he clapped so he's only half surprised right
there's a very definitive instructions i gave sir and failed no but like i mean babcock is not
going to scratch you know one of the toughest players on his team a veteran a guy who's put
a letter on his jersey and a guy who's a key part of the penalty kill i love andreas johnson too
I think he can do a better version of all of those things.
But Leo Komarov, let's stop pretending Leo Komarov is Matt Martin.
Like, let's stop pretending, okay, we can take him out of the lineup, no problem,
because what does he really offer?
Matt Martin was a fourth-line winger who didn't play on the power play
and didn't kill penalties.
Leo Komarov once played 24 minutes this season.
So, I would love to see Janssen, but you put yourself in Mike Babcock's shoes and scratch Leo Komarov.
Go ahead.
Go ahead and see how it goes.
Well, and Andreas Janssen's yet to be a man.
Well, you know, I think Jani's got a really good chance.
Ever since he added that second S to his name, he's become a better player.
And I think he's going to play a lot of games for us.
He's a good player for us.
From Mike Babcock's perspective, though, I get it.
I get it because, I mean, we've talked about this before, the dad strength theory.
When you get past, I think, 27, 28, and you have to have children for this,
there's this extra strength that you get.
And if you ever see a kid try to go head-to-head with his dad at 14, he can't beat him.
At 16, he can't beat him.
At 18, he can't beat him in an arm wrestle.
And it takes him until he's like 26, 27 years old because there's an extra gear when you're a dad.
And with Leo Komarov in the playoffs, we have to remember, too, that he is a mega pest.
And he is going to drive whoever they play crazy.
And that might not be Andreas Janssen's game.
Well, and one thing I will give Babcock the credit for, especially with what we've seen from his lineup decisions this season,
the second Leo Komarov stops doing that, he's done.
He's done.
But he plays hard, and I think he's going to find another gear.
I still remember game three last year, what I call the dark guy shift.
Because, and that's what it was, man.
That's 100% what it was.
Leafs are down 2-0 early.
They show dark guy on the screen, and he's just got his giant Viking on the screen.
Everyone loses their mind.
The next shift, Kadri.
Komarov.
Kadri with another hit.
And then he goes off the ice.
Matthews comes on and scores. The whole
building, that is the loudest I've ever heard the Air Canada
Center. Insanity! And Komarov
was part of it.
If they get down a couple games
and he hasn't done much,
I don't think we're going to see Uncle Leo.
Fair enough. He's got to contribute.
Fair enough. By the way, I just
want to say, for a Leafs fan, and I am aware
that there are other fans here other than
the Leafs, but mostly it's Leaf fans, because
you mostly make the right choice. Thank you, everybody.
Sam's jersey right
there. Oh, I'm
guys guys don't boo him don't pity him he's had a brutal year come on we've all been there
he's wearing the radic bonk era jersey too so i will give him a little bit of respect oh that's
with the centurion looking to the side all it reminds me eyeballs on you all it reminds me of
is leave victories, so I'm not
going to rip on him for it.
Hey, Tom Prizing once wore
that jersey, okay? There you go.
It's got history.
Was that
Brian McGrath?
Was that
post-Damien Rhodes and
Ron Tugnut, was that into the
Patrick Laleem era? I think Tugnut might
have worn both. Patrick Laleem and that
beautiful five-hole of his.
Thank the Lord. Had many
fun days at the beach
in that Bible.
Yes.
How great is it
as Leaf fans
as I was setting up earlier
how great is it to say
this season
might be the season
they break
the total points
record
ever.
101 years
this year.
Now does that make them
the best
regular season
Leaf team of all time?
There's a little bit
of shenanigans involved.
Let's hear it.
Well just because
of the shootout
they couldn't win
a shootout last year
this year they're seven and two would it be any different from a tie well yeah you'd have to take
off the seven shootout win points yeah you get that extra point so fair enough yep okay so sans
seven points they're a little far behind and like it's it's going to be similar to you know the
capitals whenever they win the president's trophy or like even this year with the raptors winning a
franchise record 57 games that's wonderful but if you don't do anything in the playoffs with it no
one's going to remember it well look at barry trotz right now apparently fighting for his job
even though he just won another division title yeah i just don't think it means anything like
we look at it it's all about the results in the playoffs and you're a great regular season team
who really cares win a couple rounds it means the most to like sasky stewart because like she's got
to send the tweet about it and then after that i don't think it really means much i'm just like
all right is it tampa or boston let me know do you i remember it's so funny in hockey it seems
to not matter making the playoffs for some reason with baseball and i know less teams make the
playoffs in baseball maybe this is the reason but even if you get squeaking in the wild card
they're having cigars and champagne on the field they're partying hockey players like well no i'm
not gonna not gonna celebrate anything until uh 16 17 games from now when we win the stanley cup
and uh i'm gonna go home now i'm very uncomfortable in this position i don't like talking to people
you didn't get a pucks in deep in oh pucks in deep there you go 110 i've always thought the
saddest person in sport is someone who loses in the stanley cup final because you didn't get to
celebrate anything you did win a trophy they didn't even let you touch it yeah you got this
big playoff beer but now the playoffs are over and you lost now you just look like an idiot and you
feel stupid or you could just be brent burns and keep it i always or that i always just think of
Ryan Kessler crying when the Canucks lost
and it was so heartbreaking
it made me feel bad for Ryan Kessler.
Like, that's how you know a moment
is just, ah, heartbreaking.
It was, yeah, it's
gotta be sad. But like, Mrs. Dangle
grew up in a soccer family
and she's like... Oh, by the way, we got some
moves for Mrs. Dangle here. She's here to help out.
And the other day,
wow, I didn't know you turned that shade of red.
She's in the plaid over there.
Giving me the finger.
She's the one giving me the finger.
Again.
Justin, put her on your shoulders.
By the way, Justin Fisher behind her.
Justin Fisher!
It's great because you can actually see the contrast in color between her face and her hand.
How sweaty do you think her palms are right now?
Oh, all the sweaty.
Oh, yeah.
I don't even remember the point I was going to make.
Oh, yeah.
So she comes from a soccer family and she's like,
I don't know, isn't it kind of stupid that the regular season champions aren't the champions?
And I very quickly answered, no.
They have a trophy. It's called the President's Trophy.
It's just no one cares.
You compete for the Stanley Cup.
I couldn't even tell you what the President's Trophy looks like.
I think it's tall.
I don't know.
Do they keep the names on that too, like the Stanley Cup?
And do you get to keep the President's Trophy, or do you have to give it back?
Do they have different ones that they make every year?
Because the World Series ones, they just make a new one every year, right?
Who's been to Washington?
What does it look like?
I don't know if they're Vancouver.
Do they have it in a case?
No, I don't know.
No, see, nobody knows.
It's because we're all Leaf fans and we've never won one.
We're making fun of the trophy that we've never won.
Ah.
I think I found where our insecurity is coming from.
What's that?
Say that again?
He was alive the last time they won.
He was alive the last time they won, he says, pointing to his father,
who looks a little sad but also proud of this moment let's give a round of applause
you know it's funny from everything i've heard and everything i've read apparently like nobody
showed up to the stanley cup parade the last time the leafs had one and the funny thing is there's
a couple reasons for that the first one is it was like their fourth and seven years or something
yeah 62 3 4 and 7 and the second reason was toronto was not a city that went out and did
the things that we're doing right now it's very like stay home and stay in your little community
and nobody go downtown and do anything?
I read Bobby Bond's book,
and I think he said he skipped the 67 parade
to go on a fishing trip,
which gives you an idea of how much it meant to him.
Also, that book is great.
Really?
It is really good.
There's a weird story.
I wrote about this on Yahoo Sports a couple years ago.
It's amazing that Leaf fans know so much
and they know all these legends about the team
that may or may not have even happened.
But there's one story in that book
that I can't believe everyone doesn't know.
Tell it, tell it.
A few years into his career,
they decided,
because when Tim Horton was a rookie,
there were lots of rookies that year,
so he never really got his rookie hazing.
That, and he's like the size of Frankenstein
and kind of looks a little bit like him too.
So they didn't want to mess with him.
Have you ever seen that topless photo of Tim Horton
back in the day?
He was lying on a lawn.
I was like, damn, Tim.
Wow.
He's got like, he's got,
is that what you said?
I was like, damn, Tim.
I believe that was my caption.
Martin, and you'd say, damn, Tim.
I would.
I mean, I would.
He had 18 abs.
I'm not kidding.
Well, in the 60s when you didn't have to have abs to be in shape.
With those abs, four, five, or six Leafs, Bobby Bond was one of them, grabbed them,
shaved his balls, and they put like Tiger Bomb on it or something like that.
Oh, nice.
Because they're like, oh, yeah, this will help it heal or whatever.
Was it Tiger Williams' Tiger Bomb?
You know, it might have been his.
It might have been it.
I think Tiger Williams was 14 years old at the time.
Maybe, I don't know.
But yeah, I don't know why Tiger Williams doesn't have Tiger Bomb, though.
I think that's a really good point.
Tiger Williams' bomb will punch you in the face but make you feel good.
Punch you in the face with freshness.
I'm in marketing.
Let me ask the room.
sunday we will probably find out who exactly the leafs play in the playoffs right and i was hoping
tonight we would know so at least we could get into it who wants tampa okay who wants boston
wow now that's interesting that's really interesting now i want to ask the two of you
who do you who do you want i think tampa is probably the easier target i got my sword let
slay that damn dragon. I want the Bruins.
I want them. You want revenge.
I want it! I want it.
Oh, we won the East? Shut up!
I want to kick their ass.
Jesse? You want revenge.
You want revenge. Boston, yes.
I'll say this. I want revenge in the second round.
Is that fair?
Is that fair? No, because then you have to cheer
for Boston to get through the first round,
which we're not doing. Right.
Jesse,
that is just a really good point.
We don't need him.
You can go to the game.
We'll be happy here.
Why didn't I think of every Jesse angle?
It's impossible.
Well, we'll just rename it
the Good Point Maker and Present Friend Podcast.
So here's the question, though.
Tampa Bay has obviously fallen off a little bit.
It's rare and it's so Tampa
that you have the starting goaltender go,
yeah, I'm a little tired.
If that happened here,
we wouldn't be in this building
and we'd be burnt down by now.
So what, at what point, what are the Leafs' strengths against Tampa,
and what are the things that they're really going to have to watch out for?
And then we'll get to Boston, too. Don't worry.
Their strengths against Tampa is I think they're really the only team in the East
that can kind of fight fire with fire with them.
They can go depth for depth, speed for speed.
Tampa has an advantage on the back end, I think.
They also have Dan Girardi, so there's that.
They're making Dan Girardi look really good this year, by the way.
Yep. Yeah, that's true.
Anderson looks a little bit tired.
Vasilevsky looks a lot a bit tired.
So maybe that kind of evens everything out.
I'm also just encouraged by how the Leafs have played the Lightning this season.
Boston is kind of this jumbled mess.
Because I think in more of those games, either Bergeron was out or Matthews was out.
Boston, like I saw the game where Patrick Marleau scored the OD winner.
Boston's entire roster was alleged it was maybe they might have existed yeah but for the most
part it was just like NHL creative characters so I never really got a great idea of what the
matchup was like and then McElhinney got like a 40 save shutout or something ridiculous like that
I've seen the Leafs do well against Tampa I know they're capable of giving up a three nothing lead
I know they're capable of doing it
twice
I just feel like in the playoffs they'll find
that level and they won't
do that
hopefully I didn't just put that evil
into the world
I think we gotta face our fears head on a little bit here
what's gonna be interesting regardless
of who they play
point it at a little bit more
what's gonna be interesting
is that not better
what's gonna be interesting no matter who they play
is
watching them play in a game they give a damn about because it's been a couple weeks now i think
and i wonder too i mean thankfully they're playing teams that haven't gone down to the wire
right my biggest fear and it's not like the leafs had this problem all year because
you know since the big i guess the middle of october they haven't really been threatening
for first place in the division but um if they had to go against a new jersey or philadelphia
that is down-to-the-wire intense.
And New Jersey's given them all sorts of trouble this year.
I was at the first New Jersey game.
I mean, this last one,
maybe they could have probably tried a little bit harder.
And you saw that in the final 10 minutes.
And with Philly, I don't think the Leafs beat them.
I don't think so either.
I think they got swept in the season series.
So the playoffs are that weird little beast
where you look at the clearly better team,
which is Boston or Tampa,
and you go, yeah, I want
them instead. It's just one of
those weird things. I mean, you are
going to want to play a team that you have a better
chance against and I think
Columbus and New Jersey have come to the same
conclusion. Well, hold on. We're going
to hold off on that. That's a tease
but I want to talk a little bit about
Boston. What are the Leafs
strengths against Boston? What do they have to look out for?
Well, their strength is I think
they're deeper. They're deeper and they're
less banged up. I know we're
looking at the ghost of Ron Hainsey
and the
I don't know. You can't say the ghost
of Nikita Zaitsev. He's just not that great.
Unfortunately. And that contract
is worse. But
Boston is super banged up.
McAvoy is coming back from like
wasn't it like a heart condition?
Something like that?
He did get hit with a puck too or something.
Got hit with a puck. Chara is a knee tweak
away from not being able to skate anymore.
Bergeron
we know nothing's going to keep him out of the lineup
he literally played with a punctured lung
but I think the Leafs are
deeper than them
they don't have a line, even the Matthews line
that can compete with the top one
but they're deeper than them and I think
they're a little bit less banged up
Well Gus Katsaros, and I said this on the podcast
last night so forgive me for repeating myself
but Gus Katsaros
seer, guy who said Chicago
would not make it when people said he was crazy
and he was right, said he would rather
the Leafs take on Boston because they are deeper for that specific reason and you know Gus is a
Leafs fan though so I want to know yeah is his decision skewed by how much like god it would
just make me feel better you know what I don't want when the Leafs win the cup I said it when
the Leafs win the cup I don't want any Bruins fans ruining my good time yeah well you didn't
beat us didn't beat us didn't beat boston i can't wait to be like and we beat you
like it's it's just gonna feel so much better that way and to beat them in round one like
i was kind of talking uh a lot more last year about like how a team like pittsburgh they had
to have growing pains in the playoffs but they also got to slay their dragon right i think it
Sidney Crosby's first playoff run they ran into the the cartoon era Sens over there and the Sens
beat them and then the next year they came in and I think Gary Roberts was on their team and was
just like and just like intimidated them into getting swept and uh that in the sense just
weren't as good anymore but the Penguins on route to establishing themselves as a dominant team in
the league and making the Stanley Cup final that year they got to slay their dragon wouldn't it be
great. Leafs get Boston. Beat them. Leafs get Tampa, who are supposed to be the better
version of them, who even wear the same colors. Beat them. Conference final, the Caps. Beat
them. And then that's the thing about the Stanley Cup final is you need to convince
yourself to hate that team. Because you don't know them that well. Oh, the Sharks gave us
Toskala. You've got to make up
a reason. Well, let's go through it.
Nashville. Why do we hate Nashville?
Oh, they're just...
They have that former Canadian.
Yeah. Former Montreal Canadiens.
And Alexi Emelin.
I don't even like
his face. Carrie Underwood?
Not feeling it. No.
No. Your goaltender
interference calls, Carrie, are wrong.
Bad take.
Learn the rules. Yeah.
I want the Leafs to take a Louisville
slugger to Nashville. How about
that? To both? It's a song.
Sorry.
Before he cheats.
Don't slap!
Just look it up on Spotify. If St. Louis
makes it in, again, don't ever bet on Jake
Allen. I made that mistake, but let's say it's St. Louis.
Alex Steen. I want him back.
Oh, yeah. Winner gets Alex
Steen and the cup.
There you go. That's what I want. You also hate Carter Hutton.
I mean, well,
I don't hate Carter Hutton. I hate
the contract in advance that he will get from a
team ah and you just hope it's not the leafs yeah yeah for sure it won't be winnipeg jets why do we
hate the winnipeg jets linea and also they smell bad yeah by the way are we for or against linea's
beard no boo all right what linea's beard's bad right like who has a neck beard that's weird
he i don't he he looks more like he churns butter than he runs a power play like it's just
Justin Borden was complimenting him, being like,
man, it takes a lot of confidence to rock that thing.
And I'm like, no.
That is not a compliment.
No, you know what it takes?
Terrible friends.
Someone's got to be like, dude, no, no, no, no.
That's not working.
And like, I got to be on your team,
so I'm associated with that beard.
Get rid of it.
It's nice to know that.
Blake Wheeler should step in.
He's the captain.
He's got to step in and be like, that has to go.
That or you have to grow the rest of it at least.
Should he step in and punch him in the face in practice?
Yeah.
You guys get that, right?
There was a fight in Winnipeg Jets practice?
Okay.
Adam Wild condones violence.
I think we all know that.
You know what?
Yeah.
All right, why do we hate the Minnesota Wild?
Oh, why don't we?
They have that guy who has a time machine, Eric Stahl.
Oh, that's right.
Apparently, he has a time machine, and all of a sudden, it's 2008 again.
2003.
Noted Leaf killer, Eric Stahl.
Yep.
That guy's always beating up on the Leafs.
That is one thing
Again Mrs. Dangle
Who's about to turn another color again
She's here by the way right
Did you guys notice that she was here
She's also here
How we doing on the bingo
We're doing okay
We were talking about
She's like what teams don't you like
What teams do you just hate
And I was going through like the teams
That I didn't like as a kid because the Leafs
Had playoff series with them and I didn't like them
So Buffalo didn't like them
flyers don't like them who was the other team well the Sens whatever they beat them a bunch of times
uh there were a few other teams and I was just like some teams I don't like just because I feel
like they don't matter and she goes Minnesota Wild and I was just like how did you know
but I constantly forget they are there like it is funny they're kind of like I mean they've got
some legitimate superstars on that team and and superstars you could argue or pass their prime
Suter, Parise, Stahl, whatever, but they're still
performing. And they've got a great coach.
Apparently Stahl's prime is now. What's that?
Apparently Stahl's prime is now. He reprimed.
And Bruce
Boudreaux owes us. Like, that guy is
still, like, an open Leafs fan.
He owes it to
fellow Leaf fans everywhere to lose that
series. So
I hate him for not
joining the Leafs.
Why do we hate the Vegas Golden Knights?
Oh!
They took Brendan
Leipzig and then gave him to Vancouver.
Oh, that's a fate worse than death.
I wasn't happy with them
taking him to begin with, and then they gave him
to Vancouver? What did he ever do
to you? This is just
mean. It was mean. I always
say. Okay, I think LA
is obvious.
Drew Doughty.
He came on our show. He's a friend
of the show. He's a friend of the show, Drew Doughty. And I made
him mad.
So he's going to have that. You want to run through that again? Why do
you think you made Drew Doughty mad? Because I heard this,
I wasn't there for the episode, but I don't think
you did. Oh, Adam left us to do it
on our own? Oh!
I guess it's not a new thing.
Were the Leafs playing the Habs the night before?
I think so! You know?
And Drew Doughty was there
because of Lays that day.
Goes with
Adam's podcast slogan, bet you can't ditch
just one.
I thought Dion Phaneuf was going to be the first thing that came up, by the way,
but you can't really hate that guy.
By the way, we're over that, right?
I can be convinced.
Can we be over that?
No?
Really?
We should be over that.
You know what?
It's not his fault the rest of the team was really bad.
he let he did help the cap situation by leaving that's what he said you're right so round of
applause to Dion Phaneuf making them if anybody took Dion Phaneuf's money it was not it was not
or took JBR's money they tried to make it work whatever Patrick Marlowe we were able to get
Patrick Marlowe because Dion Phaneuf left we'll find it uh I mean they're a big smelly team oh
sorry it took me this long Jonathan Quick
now what what is it what is it about jonathan quick talk talk to me about jonathan quick he
screamed at sweet boy zach hyman because he was so proud of himself that he didn't blow a five
nothing lead earlier this season and i just don't like him i don't like him he seems like the kind
of guy he's he's your friend who's like a little too competitive in friendly situations
When you play poker
He
Hey
He wants money on the table
Card up the sleeve
Yeah there's no
Oh card up the sleeve
There's no I.O.
When you play ping pong
Does he do the overhead smash
And go yeah
At your eye
At your eye
Yeah
And then the next time
He tries to hit you
And the next time you play
He goes remember
And of course you remember
But like you're trying
To be his friend
So you try to block it out
But he won't let you
I hate Jonathan Quick
There we go
San Jose Sharks
They gave us Toskala
I think I
I think I've got a pretty good one.
Ducks.
Oh, Carlisle.
Do you want to lose the Stanley Cup to Randy Carlisle?
I think I'd be done.
I'd be like, well, Alifar's had a good run.
I'm going to go be an accountant now, a really bad accountant.
Yeah.
Counter-argument.
Yes.
Is Randy Carlisle not the reason we have everything we have right now?
Did he not bring us Austin Matthews?
Jesse with the angle.
Wow.
How are you cheering against Austin Matthews?
I'm not going to cheer for incompetence.
That is the same, in the same way,
if I did become an accountant like Adam said,
and somehow their taxes were off by 13 grand,
and then they got to sue me,
and I had to give them a bunch of money,
do you think they'd be happy with me?
I mean, I technically gave them a lot of money.
it's because I was an idiot
Jesse I see I think you make a good point
and I'm sorry to interrupt
no you're not I'm really not
but I think this is I think
when Randy Carlisle was let go
the Leafs were 8th place in the conference
when Peter Horacek
took over that's when
so that's who we should thank
so Peter Horacek round of applause
for Peter Horacek
I don't know what's he doing now do you know what he's doing
I have no idea
I hope he's roaming a field with other Peter Horaceks, just running around and having fun.
It's like the Charizard farm, except Horaceks.
We dropped him off there, and we were like, goodbye, Horacek.
We'll never forget you.
And then he'll show up, I don't know, in one of the movies.
Season 8.
Yeah.
So there are two teams that could play the Pittsburgh Penguins, everybody.
Two teams.
Oh, we got a Penguins fan in here?
Back in the bag.
I mean, I can't hate success.
I mean, good for them.
I can, but that's what haters do.
Unless it's Chicago.
I can hate success there.
All right, all right.
What's that?
Phil Kessel is a two-time Stanley Cup champion.
That's correct.
And you know what?
See, I can't hate that.
I can't hate that.
Someone on the Leafs payroll is a two-time.
We paid $2 million each year for him to win the Cup.
Oh, Adam, stop being so ridiculous.
It's 1.2.
Okay, fair enough.
So Columbus is one of the teams that could play Pittsburgh.
Columbus tonight has not dressed Artemi Panarin,
Sergei Bobrovsky, Seth Jones, or Zach Rawinski.
The other team that could play the Pittsburgh Penguins
is the New Jersey Devils,
who have not dressed Taylor Hall,
Kyle Palmieri, or Travis Ajak.
It seems like everybody's afraid of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
I wonder why.
On one hand, yeah.
On one hand, that's BS.
They're literally ducking a team in the first round.
Forget who they are.
They're ducking the penguins?
Boo!
Get out of there.
Penguins don't quack.
Get out of here.
I'm proud of myself.
Thank you.
Stop it.
Well done.
I'm like your height when I stand.
Yeah, they're ducking the penguins.
On the other hand, I don't got to worry about that.
So would I be happy with the Leafs doing the same thing?
How different is this from tanking?
I was going to ask.
Anybody that has an anti-tanking argument can now put it to bed, right?
You're not dressing your stars you're intentionally trying to lose.
And at least with this, you get to say, well, we are heading into the playoffs and want to rest our best guys.
Just like the Leafs rested JVR for like four months.
Twelve minutes of the game.
No, no.
Like I'm talking about when the year that they finished last.
Oh.
Where all these people with like day-to-day, week-to-week injuries just became, ah, we shut them down now.
He broke his ankle.
I don't know, man.
I think Lou broke his ankle.
who wasn't even there yet hey james no he wasn't there yet no not when he broke no he wasn't yeah
not when he broke it he still broke it he knew so did he break it later is that what happened
no he broke it i hear you got a bruise wham think of all the underhanded dealings like he was
probably the gm of the devils but knew he had the leaves job coming up and he was like hey jim it's
actually james doesn't matter looks like you're walking a little gingerly on that leg it actually
feels fine that's exactly what happened all right loophole sorry say that again
lou did get the job july 2015 that's what i'm saying whatever is this what it feels like adam
this is every time i log on to the reddit page every damn time by the way nice timothy
lilligren jersey we like that that's amazing her good things her good things yeah yeah her
good things uh apparently it's going to take him another year to be ready though he's not travis
dermot yet um so here's the thing they dress they uh they they they take all these guys and they
take them out of the lineup and as you said the game i'm i'm going to physically see in person
tonight and not be here um yeah it doesn't matter so ron hainsey who has like they've talked about
taking guys out of the lineup
to just rest them. Ron Hainsey
played an entire penalty kill.
It was like a longer penalty.
It was two minutes and 30 seconds the other night.
In a row. Is it
time to just like, okay, Ron, sit out game
81. Can you imagine the Leafs
make the Stanley Cup final and
just what Ron Hainsey is going to look like
by then? He's going to play
center. Why not?
Yeah, I was going to
say Quasimodo. No, Gollum's
pretty good. He's just going to be screaming,
sanctuary no it's it's it's not gonna be very good wasn't he the penguins like third line
center by the playoffs last year right dude he scored like a wicked datsukian goal that everyone
was like check out the old guy like as he was flying by i wonder i wonder you know given how
the playoffs went for the penguins last year and especially how ron az played i wonder if he's like
okay i'm gonna chill but i'm gonna gear it up i still got some gas in it because i feel like
the last 20 games,
they haven't been all that important.
There have been some bad moves by Ron
Ainsley, sure, but the 60
games leading up to that, he was fantastic.
I'm excited to see the playoff form of
all the Leafs, really. There's a few
guys we haven't really seen.
I mean, yeah, playoff Matthews
was disgusting. We saw him last year.
Kadri, I want
to see hit another gear.
The effort was there last
year. The effort is almost always
there, I need the production.
You struggled to put up points against
the Bruins, if I remember correctly.
Kind of struggled against the Caps. We need a little
bit more of that. I want to see
playoff Patty Marlowe in person.
I want to see that.
I want to see playoff Ron Hainsey in person.
I want to see Spring Polak
not break his leg.
Who knows?
Round of applause to not need
life-threatening, or sorry, career-threatening injuries.
But if he did, would it be that bad
of a thing? Yes!
Oh, Jesse, come on.
I'm asking the question.
I'm not hoping for anything.
Okay, Lou Lamorello.
Fox News, Jesse Blake over here.
People are saying questions need to be asked.
Lou didn't get the job until 2015.
I think we just figured it out.
He's tall enough.
You've got a crowbar in your pants right now.
I know it.
Anyway, sorry, phrasing.
I know, that was terrible.
Anyway, phrasing.
You should put that in your Twitter bio, man.
Steve once said, I have a crowbar in my pants.
I don't think so.
I think it would look, right?
I think that's a good one, right?
Yeah.
By the way, how good are those?
What are they called?
The popcorn chicken?
Oh, the buffalo chicken, buffalo popcorn chicken.
Thank you for the trip.
It's amazing.
Hey, can we give a round of applause to the staff here at Rec Room for having us today?
So great.
And another, and a round of applause for Puck Talks for saying, yeah, we'll, I guess we'll
do something with you guys.
Please round of applause for Puck Talks.
They do great work.
And it's not just us.
They do great stuff with The Athletic.
They do great stuff with, it's Steve and Chris Johnston.
on every single athletic panel there is.
Puck Talks panel.
Puck Talks.
You trying to get me fired?
Yeah, no.
It's Sportsnet personality Steve Dangle
with Sportsnet personality Chris Johnston,
also Hockey Night Canada personality.
You guys sign up for every single one of these.
Now, normally when you do one of these,
it's kind of like more of a Q&A, right?
Yeah, a little bit.
So how has this felt for you so far?
It's felt like there's been a distinct lack of questions.
then let's do
an extended press conference
shall we
wait we gotta play the music
Steve
Steve Dango
press conference
that's actually pretty good
I'm impressed I'm impressed
it's always good
so here's the deal
put up your hand if you got a question
I'm gonna repeat the question before we answer it
because we want people watching at home on the live stream
and later on because you're gonna be able to download this episode
to be able to hear what the question was.
There's nothing worse than watching a press conference
and then hearing...
Yeah, you know, I thought
Hyman had a good game.
I don't know, you do a better Babcock than I do.
How did you feel about
bringing me, Landry?
Do you know what the lineup's going to be in the next game?
Yeah. You going to tell us?
No. There you go.
There you go. I think we have
a microphone set up over there. Do we?
Please don't run over here.
We don't have anybody now. Is that what we're doing?
kev so okay if you got a question question jump on the microphone over there with as little assault
and murder as possible it's almost as though they've done this before and they were ready
for a question unless you want to walk it around it's crazy if you got a question you got to walk
up to the microphone but if you spill your beer you're disqualified there you go that's actually
a really good rule right hey guys how's it going first okay good how are you so first i get to tell
us your name uh my name is dean long time listener first time question asker where are you from dean
long time first time uh i'm from london ontario originally but i've been go knights but i've been
in toronto for the past decade um so my friend and i we came and saw you guys at the first
live viewing party uh is over on the movie theater up on uh the review cinema the review
So, my friend and I, we gave you guys some hot chips for you to eat.
You mentioned on one of the podcasts you're going to eat them, and I've yet to see that.
We never did.
So, did you back out, or what happened there?
Because I remember Jesse was ready to eat the night of.
Jesse was right.
I was ready.
And these two guys backed out.
We did.
Okay, we postponed it, and Jesse decided to approach it like the Bruins-Panthers game
and just threw them away.
I did not.
Where are they?
In the garbage.
Who put them there?
I left them somewhere, and somebody else threw them away.
So the question is, if I was to find some and get them back to you guys,
would you man up and do them now?
Yes, yes.
First off, I think we're not going to let you go out and buy more.
We'll get them ourselves.
But we owe you that.
You're absolutely right.
And yes, we will man up.
I'm not saying we'll take it like men, but we will man up and try.
Men scream.
So I will absolutely take it like a man.
Now, I've heard that you're supposed to drink milk or eat bread.
I heard it doesn't help because they're so hot.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Excellent.
I'm cool.
Sounds good.
Can't wait.
Really excited.
I'll just give the hospital the heads up.
Yeah.
Next question, sir.
State your name for the entire audience.
My name is CJ Shepard from Wasaga Beach, Ontario.
Woo!
Beach, bro.
Very good.
So I know everybody hates the new playoff format.
my question is would you want to go back to the old format knowing we'd be facing the pittsburgh
penguins first round yes because then we'd have home good question what do you think that matters
i think it 100 matters you see across pro sports sorry say that again uh we'd have home ice oh it
was the regular format across pro sports it's 54 of teams win on their home ice across the four
major sports so it matters and the fact that the nhl took that away from us i'm a little upset you
know what i like about that too and sorry steve um is that it's the pittsburgh penguins are sort
of built like the leaps heavy up front sydney crosby yeah well i mean okay different level
built through the draft lottery oh sorry
they they they tank so hard they almost left um that's true they did um but almost rode the
tank right to hamilton if you you know chris letang aside you don't have the deepest defense
core there i mean they did sign matt hunwick who we know quite well and we did take ron hazy from
them but you know they they do have stronger i would imagine that they you would on paper see
that the penguins is a stronger team but i feel like they would match up pretty well and be a fun
series it would be a fun series it probably teach the leafs a thing or two but to go back to the
reason you brought it up uh you know i want the bruins to slay that dragon uh the penguins are
the dragon they've got back-to-back cups i'd feel pretty good about beating them too and also um
it'd be fair and square right you know they drew them in the first round they finished what would
it be the leafs finished third and they finished it'd be fourth and fifth oh it'd be fourth and
fifth yeah because the leafs didn't win the division so i mean it is what it is you got to
Beat the best to be the best, or whatever.
And, you know, like my aunt always says, and, no, whatever.
By aunt, do you mean Adam?
Yeah, by aunt, I mean Adam.
Go back to the old format, even if it means, unfortunately, you've got to take on Phil Kessel in round one.
And I'm into it because, you know what, Pittsburgh's the best, and I would be down there in a heartbeat.
Slay the hot dog.
Yeah, good question, right? Good question.
How's it going, guys?
Next question comes from Dmitry Filippovich.
That is not my name.
I am not Russian, or whatever he is.
Filippovich is Russian, is it not?
Something Eastern European?
Slavic, probably.
Yeah, exactly.
Who knows?
It ends with an itch, so.
I'm Andrew.
I love the show.
Thank you, guys.
Where are you from, Andrew?
What's that?
Where are you from?
I commuted from, I live on Spadina and Fort York.
I live right there.
So you walked here.
Way, really far.
Good for you.
I have a question, but I just want to say real quick.
I actually know who jinxed the Leafs from 1967.
I really don't want to throw under the bus
but my grandmother said to my
my dad
grew up in Richmond Hill
they went down the day of the parade in 1967
down here to downtown Toronto for an appointment
or something and apparently my father
asked my grandmother can we go to the parade
mom
and my grandmother apparently said
no son there'll be one next year
I love you grandma
like it was the Santa Claus parade or something
no we'll go to one next year
Is she still with us?
She is 92 and doing very well.
Thank you.
Well, hey, round of applause for that health.
I hope they make it to 92.
That's great.
Thank you.
I will tell her that you all disliked her immensely for that.
Can we blame her for that?
Yeah.
Can we?
No, no, no.
Here's the thing.
I love her to the end of the earth, but I can't stand her for that.
She literally said, better luck next year.
Exactly, exactly.
Sorry, this Stanley Cup's not good enough for Grandma.
There'll be one, because, you know, I thought it was 65 and 66,
but you said it was 62, 63, 64, so it wasn't quite in a row,
but, yeah, there wasn't one next year, obviously, but soon.
Didn't someone tell her about expansion?
And Bobby Orr, all that stuff?
All right, real quick, so my question is,
and I didn't know that Mrs. Dangle was here, so this is amazing.
Steve.
Mrs. Dangle, who's right over there, by the way,
if you want to wave hi to her.
Give her a round of applause.
She's married to Steve.
I'm actually, I'm on Mrs.
Dangle's team on this one.
Steve, in front of
the public and especially your wife,
if the Leafs, I don't know whether to say
whether the Leafs win the cup or the Leafs get to the conference.
Say it or win the cup. Say it.
Own it. Do you promise to get a third
victory puppy?
Do you want one?
What?
She doesn't
want one.
Call it Stanley
Call it Stanley was the comment for anybody
You know what
You gotta be able to
Wait a second, I think it's on Jesse
I mean we got dogs
What about Jesse
It's on me to get a dog
You have to get a victory puppy now
It's on you to get two dogs
It's on you, you gotta get three
What's the significance of three
They're good dogs
if the Leafs
win the Stanley Cup
this year
I will get a dog
will you name it
Stanley
and I will name it
Lord Stanley
yeah
I love it
I love it
thanks guys
thanks for the question
there you go
Lord Stanley
stop eating poop
no Mrs. Dangle
knows how to like
break me down
and get me to agree
to things
I'll be in the best mood
of my entire life
yeah I'll agree to it
whatever you want to do
third budgie
Hi, I'm Joyce. I'm from New York City.
That's my daughter, Samantha, over there.
Did you guys fly up from New York?
We drove.
Drove up from New York to be here tonight.
Wow.
We're honored. Thank you so much.
Thank you for all the entertainment you've provided us with.
We're big hockey fans. She comes by it honestly.
Three generations down.
Anyway, I was at the game in New Jersey the other night.
I'm sorry to hear that.
now. We really didn't put
on our best. I hope you had the best
time at that 2-1 loss.
I actually did have a good time because
I was with a bunch of friends, but
I wanted to know what you thought
because it was driving me
crazy that it seemed like my
back pickup was going
onto the defense. You and you. Go ahead.
Let's see how that works. You, you.
Let's see how that works. You, you.
I mean, it was insane.
He seemed to be trying random
things at the last minute.
Like me writing a book.
Are you the literary version of Mike Babcock?
Is that what you're saying?
I might be.
Yeah, you know what?
Game 81?
Hainsey Zaitsev.
Yeah.
See how it goes.
Can I go with this one for just a second?
Because one of the things he tried was,
and this is something that I was going to bring up on our show last night,
but was so ugly, cut off by Steve.
He was like, I don't give a shit.
I don't care.
I'm tired.
He tried out Riley Gardner.
And for a long time, people have been talking about Riley Gardner, Riley Gardner.
And a lot has been done to analyze the numbers that those guys have when they're together.
And it's all positive.
Really good.
And you would think it would just be all offensive, but it's not.
And what's interesting about that is if it ever comes down to it, it's, you know, seventh game, overtime, it's going to be those two guys on the ice.
So at least in that regard, I'm cool with it.
And then it makes Travis Dermott kind of have to step up and go,
you know, I'm now the second pairing guy with Nikita Zaitsev,
which, honestly, I don't mind as a second pair.
If Nikita Zaitsev can find 75% of his game from last season, I'm cool.
Boy, that bar just keeps getting...
Did I say 90% last night?
65.
If he can find 35% of his game from last year.
We can get 69% of Nikita Zaitsev.
Naitsev?
Naitsev?
No, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I have one more quick question.
Please, go ahead.
Because this has been driving me crazy for years,
and I was alive when the Leafs won the last time.
I was alive when the Leafs won the last time.
I was young, but I was there.
Why do the NHL teams not give their players a flu shot?
I didn't know that was a thing.
Do they not?
Is that not a thing?
I don't know.
Every single year.
Oh, this one has the flu, then it runs through the team,
and this one can't play, and that one can't play.
I still get the flu every year, and I get the shot.
So, yeah, yeah, I'm just prone to it.
So they might get it.
I think it's on the players.
I think that's their choice.
The NHL can't legislate, no, you must get this shot.
I know, but you would think that it would be to their benefit.
Yeah, you would.
I think just being around a bunch of guys for so many months
in close quarters, you're bound to get sick.
Yeah.
One person has the flu, it's going to carry.
Remember when Sidney Crosby definitely, for sure,
did not have the mumps?
No, he didn't.
He just had a big swelling pain.
I always look like this
alright guys
let's go
and you would say
Sidney Crosby
how did you get the mumps
but it happens right
it does happen
hey thank you so much
for coming all the way up
from New York
round of applause
that's amazing
you and your daughter
thank you so much
oh we know you
hello sir
announce yourself
hi I'm Hardev
he writes for a
lightning blog
and the least blog
I write for PPP
oh okay
yeah
and I was on Steve's LFR
yeah
that was fun
thank you Steve
NP. So what's up, man?
I need your March
Stanley Cup predictions and April
Stanley Cup predictions. Right.
Leafs-Nashville.
Leafs-Nashville now. Leafs-Nashville.
Alright. I'm not betting
against the Leafs. I'm going with the Leafs
obviously in the East
and in the West.
The people have spoken.
It's going to be Vegas. So Vegas
Vegas will be the reason you get a dog
Because they're going to lose
Yeah, capping off the perfect season
Alright, Lord Stanley Vegas
My March prediction
is Nashville, Tampa
My April
prediction
is
Winnipeg
Toronto
Woo!
Matthews vs. Lion-A, once and for all
Who's better? Let's go
Our YouTube comments will just be a tire fire
Oh my god
You know Canada was fun
We gave it a good shot
That will split it
That will split it
Literally right down the middle
We tried
But then we're stuck with Quebec
No they're stuck with us
I mean I can insult them
But I mean they're stuck with just smoldering rubble
That's all they got
Thanks for the question buddy
Thanks dude
Alright, next person
Hey, I'm Mike from Mississauga
What's up Mike from Mississauga
Hey, it's Justin from town
So this is a bit of a silly question
But how much money would it take
For you guys to see the love guru
Sober and without your phone
Oh, that's a good question
Justin Timberlake's the Leaf goalie in that, right?
No, he's the Kings goalie
Oh, yeah
The answer is
About negative nine dollars
because I paid to see that sober without my phone.
It was so bad.
I saw a friend I hadn't seen in like a month or two,
and we were going to end the night.
He was going to go home.
Like he lived all the way in Brampton or whatever.
We were in East Scarborough.
And on the way home, I go,
we actually can't end the night like this.
And he's like, you're right, we can't.
So we grabbed, I was still living with my parents,
we grabbed a bunch of roadies from the fridge,
and we drank as we walked up to the Black Dog Pub.
and they were closed
and we told them
what had happened
and they served us anyway
because the love guru
was so bad.
So to see it again
knowing how bad it is
It's pretty bad.
A thousand dollars.
I got a story too.
I was dating someone
who convinced me
that it was a good movie.
And that's when I knew
she was a liar.
Yeah.
And it didn't last
much longer.
I'm not going to lie.
It was
I'm like if this is
your movie taste
this isn't going to last.
Sorry.
That's a good litmus test.
Right?
Anyway, hey, thanks for the call.
Question, man.
Call.
Thanks for the call.
Yeah, I take calls sometimes.
Sorry.
Anyway.
All right, we'll be right back.
Hi, I'm Curtis from Mimico, and I just wanted to say.
Hold on, hold on.
Where are you from?
Mimico, Ontario.
Woo!
Wait, that means we have to Mimico Curtis's name.
Yeah.
Curdy.
Curdy.
Curdy.
What's your last name?
Fisher.
Curdy Fishman.
Curdy Fishman.
Curdy Fishman.
That's a very South Park-y name.
Yeah, for sure.
Continue to stand there after your question.
The Leafs have a seven-year contract for you.
Oh, perfect.
Thank you.
Hey, hey.
President.
President Brendan Shanahan from Imoco, Ontario.
Exactly.
Imoco boy right there.
Dave Oland.
Thank you.
Thank you.
First things, I just want to say, do you guys remember last time the Leafs faced Montreal
and then you played PlayStation and lost lots of times to me?
No.
That was you?
No.
That didn't happen.
Yeah, it was me and Steve.
Were you the goalie?
No, I was on your team.
No, whoever was on your team that kept playing goalie, I hate them.
Oh, that guy, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Is that guy your friend?
I think we both were in a party with Steve a few months before.
So you guys didn't know each other?
I just happened to be in a game with him and another guy.
So context here, we're playing.
and the problem with NHL
threes online is that some a-holes
can play goalie and we
decided we're like no we're not going to play goalie
none of us can anyway
and this guy was un-freaking
real, unreal
every shift was Dominic Hasik, we had a
breakaway, this is when we tie it
so anyway
thank you for curb stomping us, appreciate it
second thing is
you guys mention a lot how the NHL
is very
internal based
like how
if you played in the NHL, you have a lot
more likely of a chance of getting a job.
I just recently got accepted to
sports management at Baroque, which is the same program
Kyle Dubas is in.
And I just wanted to ask
from your experiences working
with people who work in the industry
that didn't come from
traditional hockey climates,
how do you think
I should feel about it?
Yeah, listen, man.
Here's the thing.
It is merit-based, right?
When you talk about, if you're talking about sports management,
I mean, you're talking about, like, being an agent?
It's like, it's a business.
Like, are you talking about, do you want to go into management?
Like, what do you want to do?
I just want to work in the, like.
Dude, you will be fine.
You will find a job.
There are thousands of them, and you'll do great.
You will.
It's not just hockey people doing all those jobs.
You know, we're talking mostly, when we talk about that,
we're talking about, like, GMs, coaches, stuff like that.
And that doesn't mean you can't.
Like, how many games did Stan Bowman play?
I know his dad's Scotty Bowman, but he didn't play.
It might have been a bit of an advantage, but, I mean, yeah.
How many games has Lou Lamorello played?
Jeez, and he was a coach.
Yeah.
And, like, he fired his own coach who was making the playoffs
and then coached that team.
And not just any coach.
I'm pretty sure that was Claude Julien.
Yeah.
Yeah.
For fun.
For fun.
Because he can.
No, I think you've got to kind of look at it like a Venn diagram.
So you want to be a sports agent, let's say.
Sure.
so you got to go after stuff in sports if you can get it or you gotta figure out how you become an
agent and don't care too much about how like exactly how specific it is if you're able to
get a job as a hockey agent right away that's great um i think you just need to learn as much
as possible and i mean the change is happening there's already a bunch of bloggers uh working
on teams and it's not all as pronounced as the panthers right and the computer boys and all that
But no one ever talks about the fact that the Leafs have an analytics staff now.
Guys who used to be bloggers with you.
Absolutely.
Yeah, I used to be managing editor of LeafsNation.com, Cam Chiron.
Also known as Sham Chiron online.
But also Rachel Dory, who I always bring up.
She's like 21, and she was working for the Sudbury Wolves,
and now she works for the New Jersey Devils.
the old boys club
is taking
it's not going down without a fight
but it's going down
the momentum is going downhill
so just do your thing man
work hard
just be a good player
can't wait to see you manage it someday
hello
what's your name?
Nicole, I'm from Vaughn, I'm here with my mom
who, I'm just going to say this now, loves Dina
Dina
I'm going to have to send Dana this clip.
She's going to be like, oh, my God.
All I'm going to say is I'm part of the fellow Ryerson family,
so high-fives to Ryerson.
High-fives for people who go to Ryerson.
Yes.
High-fives for people who dropped out.
Sorry.
I went, though.
All I'm going to say now is you guys aren't going to, like, get it
because I don't see you guys are wearing Jordans.
No, no.
No Jordans.
Yo, Jesse's shoe game is pretty good, though, right?
Shout-out Vapor Maxis.
That's nice.
That's nice.
so I remember before you guys were saying
how people would have Leafs jerseys
and they're just being difficult
am I being difficult? I own a Hyman jersey
he's a first liner
I don't think so
I get made fun of this
I work at a PHL
I get made fun of this every single time
they rip me a new one
every day at work
I'm going to say it's okay
because it's being difficult
if you're the Leafs of a few years ago
and they suck and there's
really only three players to choose from
and you're like, I'm getting a Steckle jersey
because I'm an individual. Which, by the way, I saw
in Tampa Bay at a non-Leafs game.
Yeah, like it's... A Leafs
Steckle jersey at a non-Leafs game
in Tampa. Like Zach Hyman leads
the Leafs forwards in like ice time
I think. He plays on the top line.
I don't think that's being difficult. It'd be
being difficult if like
you got Andreas Johnson and you were like,
day one day one andreas johnson josh levo okay but how many here it comes here it comes are you
guys ready here it comes chart how many rungs down the popularity chart is zach hyman because you
got to look at it it's like matthews marner neilander riley gardner and then you go the old
guys cadre bozak and then we're getting to the zach it's a little difficult do i need to make
a difficulty pyramid? You do!
Because if we're talking about, like, the eighth
guy on the Canadians, then you're difficult.
So the eighth guy on the Leafs is still kind of difficult.
If you had a Martin Marincin jersey, I would call
you difficult. I'm not.
I can't do that. I'm going to show all my
co-workers this clip, just because
so, wait, two out of three say I'm
not difficult. I say
not difficult. Not difficult. Yeah, but I'm
the correct one, so it doesn't
really matter. And also the difficult one.
Jesse thinks democracy
is a suggestion.
I just can't wait to show you this.
Thank you, guys.
All right, no problem.
Thanks for coming up.
Hello.
Just checking our time here.
Hello, we have Mrs. William Nylander.
Hello.
Okay, my name's Erica.
If you guys had to write Tinder bios for Matthews, Marner,
pretend he doesn't have a girlfriend, and Nylander, what would they say?
Just in the interest of time, we're going to have to pick one.
Just because we've got to get through as many questions as we can.
We've only got about 18 minutes left.
No, we've got to wrap it up before the game starts.
No.
Okay
That's what they told me
I'll take Matthew
since I'm going first
Any Friends fans in the room?
His bio should just be
four times
I'll take Marner
His bio should say
let me do the Mitch thing
So I get Nylander
Which I'm actually glad I got
Because I'd be like, duh, look at my pictures
So
What about, I mean
He is beautiful
Six inch Willie
Hey, speaking of which, we got some of that stuff to give away
We do, we'll go get it
Alright, hey, we got some Imports Dragon stuff to give away
So we're going to do that as we go
So shout out Bab Socks
They're in the building
The boys are adding
Oh, you got a new sock, here, come on out
Steve has left
Whoa, it's a bearded sock.
Here, let's talk.
These are the Silver Stanley Cup Playoff Beard Bab Socks.
Never seen before.
We're not afraid of the cup now.
We should believe, every Leaf fan in the world should believe that this is coming home,
and we're going to celebrate it.
We're not going to hide from it.
We got Mike Babcock's head on a sock to show it.
So, go Leafs, go.
By the way, can we just give a round of applause to this suit?
It's beautiful.
It's nicely tailored, too.
Thank you.
hey brother no worries that's those you know what's great about those socks too is they've
got this nice glitter effect to them it's very sparkly it's good for like a beef game or night
out or a gala or anything like that you know like a really nice night of the town fashion show you
know fashion weekly might put this in their magazine who knows but really goalies go thanks
for letting me talk about the socks here guys appreciate that and uh how much do we love bab
socks we're in mind right now so i'm told we got about five minutes oh we got five minutes not 18
We got some stuff.
Yeah, and I guess you're looking to me to go, how are we giving these away?
I think they told us five that will last 18.
We'll see.
Okay.
All right.
So how do you want to give them away?
Do you have any thoughts?
No.
All right.
Well, since we just talked about it, can we pull out the six-inch willy?
Yes.
I'm looking for it, but that one.
There it is.
Steve.
There it is.
Six-inch willy.
Nobody say it.
If you know the answer, nobody say it.
You remember that William Nylander at one point had a different number, right?
Yes, I do.
So I'm suggesting that we maybe use that as a trivia question to give away our six-inch Willie.
All right.
Oh, I saw a hand in line go up.
Who was the first hand up?
Matthew's all-star jersey.
He says 62, and he is the winner.
Six-inch Willie.
What else do we have here?
Steve, pull it up, pull it up.
Well, Adam, our contestants could win.
a six-inch Morgan Raleigh
along with a three-inch Morgan Raleigh.
Because it's the winter still.
Hey, that's at home.
$60 Reimer figure reference.
If that's on the bingo, I'm not sure.
But it's not? Okay.
It should be.
Okay, so.
Here's what I'd like to know.
Who was drafted after Riley?
Like the next pick?
The next pick.
Was it?
Do we know?
We'll look it up.
We should have been prepared for this, but you know.
We're looking it up.
Start walking up if you're confident.
But just be ready to take the walk of shame back.
He's wearing a St. Pat's white jersey to a bar with wingsauce everywhere.
He's confident.
Hampus Limbo.
Hey!
Come get your six-inch, three-inch Riley.
Morgan.
Morgan, Morgan.
Did you just say the Morgan organ?
He said it.
I didn't.
I think we're done.
We got more to give away.
Yes.
That is Ed Belfour.
All time.
In a Leafs uniform.
Single season.
Record holder, Ed Belfort.
Who wins?
It's going to get broken tonight.
Just like this figure.
No.
And guess who will be there to witness history tonight?
Your wife.
She's actually at home sick.
She's not coming.
Yeah, I know.
Put your mic down.
What?
What?
Caprice isn't coming tonight to the game because she's sick.
So this is her fall how?
She wasn't going to come anyway, so...
Yeah, what?
There's other people that are going.
Steve, I'm holding something.
I was handed a piece of paper
while you guys were giving away the toys.
Figures?
Dolls.
Dolls.
Shut up.
Oh, look at this.
This piece of paper is Adam Wilde's ticket to the game.
Thanks, guys.
Appreciate that.
Do we rip it off?
Please do not rip that up.
I don't think we can get another one.
Or do we do something to it
that damages it enough
that he has to have an awkward conversation
and maybe not get in?
So how do we give him hope
and destroy it at the same time?
I mean, we got all these figures to give away, you guys.
We better get to that before our five minutes are up.
I'm going to hand this to you.
You do with it what you want.
No, I think we need to have it in the heart of evil right here.
We just need you to hold that.
Jesse Trump.
I'll put it in my back pocket.
Kidding.
We got more prizes to give away.
What's our next one?
Ed Belfort.
Ed Belfort.
Steve, how do you want to give this one away?
Somehow.
Okay, you're really good at this.
This is why it helps at some point in your career to do bar trivia.
This is what I used to do in Calgary all the time,
every Monday and Thursday night.
Hudson's.
Shout out, Hudson's.
I want you to name for me every single team Ed Belfour played for first hand up Steve you pick
you go uh Chicago Blackhawks San Jose Sharks Dallas Stars Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida
Panthers wow
you earned that I thought the Florida thing would trip people up I thought the Florida
a Panthers thing would trip people up. People forget.
It was a very gif-able
tenure with the Panthers where he did that dive
thing. Yeah.
We have next generation figures
which includes
Patrick Laine, Conor McDavid,
and Austin Matthews.
Whoa.
Whoa. How will we
give these away, Steven? We should make somebody long divide.
You want to make someone long
divide?
Alright, alright.
Jesse's going to pull out a phone here. Okay. Nope.
Here we go.
got it, Jesse. Okay. 29 times 97 divided by 34. No calculators. Everybody looking down.
I'm looking at you. Come on. You got a game to go to. Let's get two people and closest
without going over wins. Okay. 29 times 97 divided by 34. You guys bet.
82. Right over there.
Princeton.
How?
He goes to Princeton.
Well, yeah, okay, fine.
Is that a real Princeton shirt that you went to that, you go to that school?
No.
You're 16, okay.
All right.
He had a calculator.
Yeah.
He's going to Princeton.
All right, and our last one.
Confidence is key.
Steve is very upset that he doesn't get to take this home for free, everybody.
Woo, 12-inch Matthews.
This is the 12-inch Austin.
What's that?
That's the Tinder profile.
Now, is he Matty?
12-inch Matty?
12-inch Matty and Marty.
I think it should just be the picture.
Is he so confident there's no bio?
Yeah, I mean, come on.
His picture should just be...
I don't know.
You wouldn't?
I've never had Tinder.
I don't know the arts.
That's the thing with Tinder is there is no art, and that's why it's so successful.
It's just very, it's like an assembly line.
So how are we giving this away?
Very quickly, and you know what?
I'm going to limit it to this table right here.
Or this section, because I've been ignoring you.
Who got...
Hold it against him, by the way.
Yes.
Who got the primary assist on Matthew's first goal?
Heimann.
There we go.
Noted, not difficult jersey choice.
And that was not Heimann's first point, right?
He'd played the season before?
Correct.
All right.
There you go.
Hey, we've got to wrap it up,
but thank you so much for being here tonight, everybody.
Now, the deal is you can watch the game,
stick around, have your beers, whatever.
I'll be back after the game.
You know, we can just all hang out and watch hockey together
After the other hockey game
Take your walk of shame out of here
I will, I will
What's that?
No, it's okay, you can keep your jersey
Thank you, though
It says 67 on it and everything
Thank you, appreciate it
You can watch it to the max
Does it say 67? Stop it
Who's on the back? Oh, it's Pacioretty, okay
I was like you jerk
how could you
that's his number
I'm gonna get one
that's just 93 in the
oh right
cause that's okay
for Leaf fans
to have 93 on the back
keep digging
alright
so we just wanna say
instead of ending it
on a terrible note
like that
thank you so much
for coming
we really appreciate it
and we also wanna say this
this will not be
the last time we do this
this has been a great success
thank you so much
for coming
be on the lookout
as soon as
next season starts
we've already got
something in the works
and we're really
really excited about it
Thank you to Pug Talks.
