Starting point is 00:01:00 I don't think I like this intro. All right, baby. We got a Leafs loss and a Leafs win to talk about. And the NHL is officially all the way back. I've seen so many deserve to win-a-meters. It's just making me happy. We're in. We're in again.
Starting point is 00:01:28 And the impact charts, which I got a good one for you. I got a good impact chart. I got a big impact chart for you. What? Fuck off with your impact chart. All right there, Uncle Jesse. Impact this. Okay there, Boomer.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Boomer. Now, first things first, okay? First things first, U2s with a YouTuber, you see? Steve Dangle. These U2s dolls actually go on sale today. Right now, they are on sale. That's right. and the the uh it's it you can just click the link now it is going to take a while to get these
Starting point is 00:02:02 to you so if you're buying them for people for christmas you're gonna have to include a piece of paper that says i owe you yeah but yeah christmas 2025 yeah no they should reach you around or send out around end of february early march is what they're emailing for yeah and you might be thinking to yourself oh just buy one later you can't no it's impossible to be on sale for two weeks and then that's it. October 11th, which is today, to October 25th? Whatever two weeks is. Yeah, that sounds right.
Starting point is 00:02:32 That's right. Did Adam already say that and I missed it? No, no, no. I just said it's two weeks. That's all. Just chatting. Yeah, just having a chat. You know how sometimes there's dolls and there's nothing to it? Yeah. This is a sturdy... It's a thick doll. It's firmer in the butt than I think anywhere else.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I mean, if it's going to be... That's very useful. Anywhere close to where... Why? If it's going to be anywhere close to real life, it's got to be thick in the butt. That would come in handy. Glute bridge every morning. Helps my back. So we've done a lot of different merch ideas
Starting point is 00:03:08 and collabs over the years. I think this might be the coolest one. Yeah. I think this doll, this stuffy of you, as SL likes to call it, Mrs. Dangle likes to call it. She's British. You don't have to listen to her. This stuffy might be the coolest thing
Starting point is 00:03:21 we've ever had released. I love it. it's really cool very happy uh about this this is very surreal i cannot wait to show my children uh and the reason i haven't brought this home to them yet which i was encouraged to do like oh you should bring this home and let leo play with it no it would be dead it would be destroyed and covered in yogurt and drool and uh yeah we have oreos in our house i couldn't i couldn't bring this home if there's oreos in our house no no we need we also we need it for the like the set yeah yeah yeah and also you know what you know what i love about this yeah because i i actually
Starting point is 00:04:02 got some messages from people like you have freckles it's like not not freckles so much as moles straight up moles and this doll has moles and i've i've never really liked my moles but this this kind of makes me they're part of your features what are you talking about oh thank you yeah no that's very nice yeah that's very nice and achy there's hanging out what's he gonna say when uh he sees himself as a doll okay all right all right all right let's move on great stuff okay so you can buy it in the link in the description if you are an audio listener the most you got out of that was steve's bark uh i did want to say a big shout out to everybody that came to uh came to our live show uh and steve's book launch at uh greta which was an
Starting point is 00:04:50 absolute smash it was great and you know i want to thank everybody it was greta no you're right ha you see uh on king west and downtown toronto listen we've been looking for a downtown toronto home for a while and i think greta is it it's an arcade bar it's amazing if you weren't there we will be back over 200 people were there which is insane on a wednesday night a wednesday night game and i was like man i can't wait to hear what this bar feels and sounds like when the leaf score and we don't know what that's like so the next time hopefully we'll get that chance uh we've got some big things planned and obviously we're going to be moving around southern ontario all year not just with steve's book signing but with expanding on some stuff that we did last year
Starting point is 00:05:30 which brings us to our next thing um we have an announcement and the announcement is we are uh teaming up with the oshawa generals uh steve's former hometown team because steve's an ajax so they're still the hometown team yeah they are they are i'm just kidding durham regions team so the oshawa generals um and and us and what's great about this one and i love this and i'm so excited about this is this is where we get the oshawa generals biggest rival and steve who is who is the oshawa general's biggest rival the peterborough pete ah the pete can you imagine yes and we like their alumni you know steven lorenz yeah for example mark out uh nick robertson for example ah huge pop yep but oh there will be no friends that night it's gems or bust that's
Starting point is 00:06:28 right that's right so and and i this time we're putting it up on the screen so you can see it it is october 27th look guys i got the date right it's on the screen october 27th oshawa peterborough what we're so thrilled about is they were like we want you here for the death match this is the this is the cage mask this is wrestlemania it's pete's it's generals this rivalry goes back almost 100 years forever we told cj about this and he's like well i grew up a pizza guy so screw the jet october 27th uh steve jesse and myself in the arena for the game and the great thing about this is that we get to put you all in the same section there's a couple of sections that'll be sdpn only and so when you buy the tickets and by the way for the game and then we do a show after the game
Starting point is 00:07:21 uh uh the show will begin at 9 30 the game will begin at 605 uh it's 40 bucks so you get to see the hockey game the full game and then you get to come to the bar and see us afterwards which we're very excited about we're also so the uh it's it's right across the arena i was there the other day and like it's a short walk so you'll finish the game you'll walk across the street and there's this amazing venue where we'll be in the basement and yeah we'll have a whole live show for an hour and then we'll hang around afterwards and meet you and take pictures and all that stuff i don't know if people know this who've never been to our events but every time we do a live recording of the show we also stick around to take pictures with everybody yeah i don't know if people are
Starting point is 00:07:59 aware like hey you come to live shows not just the show and when we're doing the shows with the leafs games we watch the whole game with you and then after that we'll do pictures or like during the game we'll do pictures so this one we'll have the we'll have the actual hockey game then we'll go over there then we'll do an hour live show then we'll hang out with you after it's a whole experience you get every time we have one of these shows and it's a lot of fun you imagine if it wasn't watch the show leave don't touch me that's how concerts work right yeah it is if you've never been to a live Adam says this at the top of every show but if you've never been to a live podcast recording it's different yes it's not a concert we're not sitting there putting on the performance
Starting point is 00:08:37 and then you just sit there and clap gently and when we're done and then we leave like no it's a whole thing we do with you we're all there together hanging out that's right that's right it's supposed to be an experience and so uh here's the great thing uh there was an opportunity for a meet and greet with leaf's first round pick ben mother effing danford joe it's captain that's right uh between 11 30 p.m sorry 10 30 p.m and 11 p.m so so after the show's done ben danford's coming over and he's gonna come hang out with us which is so cool uh so we're really really excited about that too and i just think yeah okay you can meet and greet with us but ben danford oh yeah so ben danford i love it who's his pair is pair gonna be when he reaches
Starting point is 00:09:24 the leafs uh well well he shoots right so mo well obviously yeah there you go has to be mo tan of uh is bad can you imagine it'll be danford yo can you imagine how mean a tan of mccabe pairing would be though anyway uh we're very very excited again tickets are 40 bucks you can get the links in the description you can also check out the oshawa generals website but it is oshawa generals sdpn teaming up for the very first time and with any luck not the last time and this is part of what we want to do going forward and you're going to see more announcements like this potentially near where you live uh we're we're expanding the reach and for anybody wondering don't worry we'll go back to the other areas too but those announcements are to come so uh very
Starting point is 00:10:12 excited again october refuses to do an event in like oakville or mississauga yeah i'm not gonna i will not cross young street going west of young street you would not believe the places i have asked to go to we just haven't confirmed i want to say too that there are people worried that you're not going to even go to the west end of toronto for well he has i mean he's selling his punk they'll go if the if the past dictates the future the past says he won't do it we've done a saint catherine's i've confirmed what we're talking about so you just mean the saga continues yeah that area just serve it with your presence well they can ask yeah also i'll get there i will get there at some point we should mention this but i'll i'll politely mention that uh agent
Starting point is 00:10:57 provocateur will be doing a show in london later in early 2025 what's all i'm gonna say a live alive a live ap in london how about that uh so oshawa generals peter repeats sdpn we're very excited to get going uh so get your jenny's jersey and get ready and don't worry peterborough we've got you later on as well just i'm teasing a bunch of stuff teasing a bunch of stuff we're gonna be doing both we play both sides of the fence here on this show yeah uh now we have a We have a whole NHL sked to talk about. There are so many games. There are so many things.
Starting point is 00:11:32 There are so many storylines. I'm going to try to get to the major ones. The chances that I would be able to plan a show, fit it all into the time allotted, and get to every storyline, impossible. So it's totally possible during the preseason because nothing's happening. But right now, as of this week, there's been an explosion of news. We're going to try to get to everything. And I'm sure the comment section will let us know, excuse me, compliment section will let us know what we forgot. But we will start with the Leafs, a loss against Montreal, a win against New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:12:02 And isn't that the summation of the Toronto Maple Leafs? Lose against the team that's not supposed to do well, win against the team that might finish first in its division. Well, and the one loss record. A record. Has to be an NHL record. Yes. 47 saves in a season debut shutout. It's got to be a record.
Starting point is 00:12:21 And after that one loss, we happen to have Steve Dangle melting down and saying that they're going to start 0-3. Because you were convinced after they lost to Montreal, they would lose the next two games. It had potential. It's not a potential. They lost one game. It's not a potential. There's a potential. They go 0-82.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I said 0-3. That's a little bit less than 82. Why was that your logic immediately after losing one game? I was simply saying, if this were to happen. Okay. Okay. Okay. Devils.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Home opener. Sure. You expect them to do very well. Leafs haven't lost against the Devils in New Jersey in years. Yes. Good stat. I'm still going, though. Leafs second half of a back-to-back.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Who's supposed to win? Rested team or tired team? Well, it's usually the rested team. Okay. But this isn't Mike Babcock. Not a devil's big acquisition to get Jake Markstrom. He's a net against a goalie playing his first NHL game. Decided disadvantage.
Starting point is 00:13:23 It's not ideal for a high-flying, high-scoring team like the Devils, for the Leafs at least, to play a rookie against them. I will grant you that. Yes. But have you considered that this rookie is 6'7"? He's so big. They have the biggest tandem in the league right now. By a margin.
Starting point is 00:13:39 You said they're going to lose. I didn't say that. I said there was the potential for it to get late early. So they're magically going to lose against New Jersey because you're all down in the dumps. And then how did that also jump to, then they're going to lose Saturday? Because it's the third game in four nights.
Starting point is 00:13:57 I was just saying. It's the start of the year. What are they, tithing? I know. I know. It wasn't rage baiting. I was just saying. You lose the first one.
Starting point is 00:14:08 You lose the first one. The second one is harder to win than the first. It is. And then the third one's done. Couldn't possibly win that. No, no. No, but now. Don't even show up.
Starting point is 00:14:20 They got the one win. Yeah, don't even go to the rink. They got the monkey off their back. They got the one win. Let's go. Let's go. Everything's going to be fine. Looks fine through two games, even though it's one and one.
Starting point is 00:14:32 They look great. And I'm happy. They do look great. And by the way, they looked great versus Montreal as well. They did. And we'll talk about why they didn't score against Montreal and what Montreal did and what New Jersey did and everything. But I want to start with this. I want to start with a feel-good story.
Starting point is 00:14:49 And, you know, what do we talk about when we talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs so often? When Sheldon Keefe, interestingly enough, who was the coach against the Leafs last night, when Sheldon Keefe left, what was the famous quote in Toronto that Sheldon said at the New Jersey press conference? He was really saying the quiet part out loud. Give it to me. Other coaches were telling him, welcome to the real NHL. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Now, the standout, I would say, and listen, is he the best player on the ice? No. But the standout story from both games was a guy who was brought to camp on a PTO named Stephen Lawrence. Now, did he or it's to pronounce it properly. It's Lawrence or Lawrence. Oh, but those are two different pronunciations. It's more like Lawrence as in the river. Or the waterway.
Starting point is 00:15:40 But people call him Lorenz, and he's fine with that. He was a standout against Montreal, played really well. Last night, he got two points, one goal, one assist, 15 minutes on ice for a fourth-liner. He deserved it. He played so much of the final stretch. Just to tell you, and this guy's been all vibes all preseason, too. His dad is just, he turned down other opportunities for guaranteed deals to come to Toronto to play. his dad is he can't stop talking about how excited his dad is by the way 216 he had
Starting point is 00:16:13 three points all of last season when he played for the panthers in 38 games he almost had two goals for the leafs last night he missed on another one that was real close good save by markstrom and he had during the podcast at greta i said he would score the first goal of the season and he came so close very close he came so close in that first game and then he ends up getting what was it the third the third goal and we'll talk about Max Pacioretty who did have the the first goal in a second but I want to just show you this Jesse do you have that uh that picture up um this is this is you want to talk about passion oh you want to that's that little okay so if you're not watching this you're listening to this this is Steven Lorenz at Halloween when he's a kid
Starting point is 00:16:57 and what's he dressed up as a Toronto Maple Leaf I love that they got like what is that a dinosaur they got like Minnie Mouse they have costumes actual costumes but he was kid who was just like I'm a leaf that's right I'm a hockey and he's got like the Daryl Sittler Leafs jersey
Starting point is 00:17:18 it's not that is not like that it's not even an early 90s Gilmore Sundin Clark jersey that's an 80s 70s jersey I can't wait for the story about this picture to come out I'm willing to bet that's his dad's oh probably dad's jersey probably is 100 probably is so passion haver yeah passion scores are 10 out of 10 there it's great
Starting point is 00:17:38 and when you when he did score i thought it reminded me of travis dermot's first goal with the leafs do you remember when he scored and the guys were like it's one of the best celebrations in recent memory absolutely lost his mind and i think steven lorenz maybe not with the same facial expressions travis dermot's facial expressions were amazing like his eyes were gonna pop out of his head but the the the reaction from the team around him and this is a guy who uh the even the Toronto Maple Leafs posted him before the Montreal game as saying like you know he said it's game day like really excited oh this guy is vibes and I cannot believe that him and Ryan Lomberg were on the same team it's insane dude in Florida I've talked about it several times the
Starting point is 00:18:23 depth on that Panthers team was insane like it's so good and it was a big reason why they won they They had so many guys they could just rotate. The guys who didn't even make it in the lineup every game, Kevin Stenland got a multi-million dollar contract out of Utah. He was fantastic for them. Ryan Lomberg got a multi-million dollar contract out of Calgary. He was fantastic for them. Steven Lorenz ends up getting a contract with the Leafs.
Starting point is 00:18:50 He's been fantastic for them so far. Kyle Ocpozo gets his bonus and rides off into the sunset. He was so good. nick cousins gets his contract with ottawa like not all those guys were in game seven oliver eckman larson anthony stallers yeah yeah but like i'm talking about guys who played on the fourth line depth guys yeah yeah yeah yep he was oh really really good team really good team but you know now that he's done something minor like win the stanley cup he could do something major like be a good leaf well and and this is what i guys i wanted to talk about very briefly
Starting point is 00:19:25 do something real yeah something real uh welcome to the real nhl steven yes it is hard to play in a canadian market but there are people that really want that and you know i feel a little bit i felt i'll be honest as a fan i felt a little bit stung with the o'reilly departure because it was very clearly i don't want to deal with that even though he was he grew up a leaf fan and you know nashville had a good plan better plan than we all thought uh let's be honest they the leafs offered the same amount of money nashville's a tax-free state i also understand that too sure but this is a guy that doesn't like that's a guy that really doesn't like the media attention that's fine and steven lorenz coming in and not being right i'm not asking him to be ryan o'reilly what i'm asking
Starting point is 00:20:10 is that people have some joy playing here because it is pretty fun there's a reason why austin matthews was like yeah i'll do five there's a reason why neil ender's like yeah i'll do eight there's a reason why mitch marner despite intense fan and media pressure and criticism is like i only want to be a toronto maple leaf it's because it's pretty good here and i think i think that we need to as leaf fans get back to that a little bit this is a pretty fucking awesome place place to play and and a guy like steven lorenz giving us that exuberance again there's been a lot of years of disappointment and people being down on the team and i understand that i have been a part of that from time to time and rightfully so uh but i also i never forget what it is to be a fan
Starting point is 00:20:58 and what's cool is that neither do the players he is what uh this fan base likes um they like a blue color player they like a worker like this is very anecdotal but long before he scored 50 eagles uh everyone i spoke to like i i always have like these two minute conversations about the leafs with people like they just they know what i do for a living and they want to just ask at least something and anecdotally what's up with hyman why didn't they keep hyman and i'm talking the summer he left like so this is long before we knew he was going to be unreal yeah this is like before like remember there was a very brief period where hyman was come see come saw with the oilers and michael bunting was going off for like a quarter of the price and we're like hey this is
Starting point is 00:21:53 working out okay quarter is like a tenth yeah they get 800 grand hey this is doing okay people were like why didn't they keep hyman i loved hyman i loved that player because he was a he was a gronk he was a workhorse he did everything that you asked of him he was a coach's dream and they rewarded him by letting him walk for what has turned out to be one of the most sweetheart contracts in the nhl i'm really glad too that they didn't get any draft compensation for i know well and like in hindsight too it let's say that's what he topped out as for the rest of his life he's 25 goal guy 2025 goal guy on the power play on the penalty kill uh defensive responsibility offensive capabilities five and a bit whatever he's making 5.4 would have been perfectly reasonable
Starting point is 00:22:47 and he would have been a fan favorite here for the rest of his life and they chose not to do that be honest with you i was on the team of i don't know that they can afford that at the time and i'll tell you why yeah i'll tell you why i think i think at the time there were uh different things that the leafs the way they structured things the way the ethos was and hey man wrong also don't forget the the context at which they didn't sign it which was 2021 when the cap was going to be was flat forever and there was no vision that it was just going to spike in the next couple years yeah we didn't have that foresight at the time also you're you're most fans don't care about that yes that's true you don't care about that they're just like i really
Starting point is 00:23:30 like this player i like his game why isn't he still here yeah the the management's making decisions based on everything that goes into it salary cap the player their performance their their underlying numbers the fan perspective who doesn't give a shit about any of that just watches the game they're like i want hyman on this team just do it you know they don't care about any of that stuff so i understand that totally people being like why didn't you just bring back hyman yeah but there's things that went into it at the time yeah every every coach brings a theme when they first get there and with keith it was the leafs unleashed let it fly let it fly boys like babcock uh kept being like you can't do this you can't do that i'm not gonna put these guys with
Starting point is 00:24:09 and keith goes let it fly let it rip and it did lead to some positive changes you know it not necessarily right away and kovat kind of screwed it up and everything berube's work work skate dig in and work and lorenzo embodies that as good as anyone on this roster now uh uh have loved i've loved watching him play you love a guy that hustles let's talk about a guy that really made a big difference uh game one and i'm gonna i'm gonna talk about a position that really made a difference okay game one gentlemen you know i i know that they lost the game and we could talk about why in a second but anthony stallers when he had to be was spectacular one goal against power play goal perfectly executed play by the habs and a great goal score with cole caulfield
Starting point is 00:25:00 gave you a chance to win gave you a chance to win like more than a chance to win more than an adequate effort this guy's a great goalie great goalie i have no doubts when we talk about the Montreal game Jesse and Steve you know I I think uh Steve you kind of mentioned it in the LFR at Greta downstairs which by the way the live LFRs I know you're I know they make you nervous but I love them I don't remember a word I said it was great it was a great one taker I really enjoyed it and and and being there in the crowd for it was lots of fun um uh one thing that I think you mentioned that I think we need to expand on and it's somebody I was actually talking to somebody who coaches the other day and they said the exact same thing you did which was okay yeah they had 45
Starting point is 00:25:42 46 47 shots and montembeau set a record and that nothing should take away from that but what kind of shots were they oh just a muffin factory it was it was a lot of a lot of putting it in the chest to get a face off a lot from the back end which are low percentage shots but it's okay like drew put it great because drew brings as a fan of a western conference team in an eastern conference market it's it's always great to get that perspective and he's like that's western conference hockey you fire it's from the point fire it from the back end and go get the rebound where was the rebound well the leafs defense had 14 shots in game one which is way more than we're used to yeah seeing out of well because we have we have defensemen with a shot which we can talk
Starting point is 00:26:29 about in a second well it's probably part of the reason connor timmins is on this team well and He doesn't look out of place at all. I will talk about it. Yep, yep, yep. But I want to talk specifically about the, and it brings me back to the Amazon documentary three years ago with the Toronto Maple Leafs and that really famous clip of Sheldon Keefe sitting, yeah, and this year, Sheldon Keefe sitting with Marner, Matthews, and Thornton and Keefe going, listen, guys, I have concerns.
Starting point is 00:26:56 We're not scoring goals the right way. And Joe Thornton. We're not scoring playoff style goals. Yeah, right. And I'm paraphrasing here. And Joe Thornton looking at him and going, can you lay off? We're in first place. And I think ultimately, for me, that sort of sums up what became a problem in the Keefe era as far as scoring in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:27:19 And the person I was talking to, who's a really, really good coach, said, listen, the Leafs can score outstanding, amazing highlight reel goals, but it makes it predictable because they're not going to do the other one. Yes. You need to be able to score. Pasternak, for instance, can score outstanding, amazing highlight real goals. He also gets garbage goals. And the Leafs used to have two guys that scored a bunch of garbage goals and tip in goals. Van Riemsdyk and Hyman. And those were different eras. And unfortunately, they weren't. Hyman wasn't scoring a lot of goals when Van Riemsdyk was here. But Van Riemsdyk was always in front of the net tipping things in. And what we saw on Wednesday night's game against Montreal was a bunch of shots from the defense that were going. They weren't off the shins. They were making their way through, and nobody really there to collect the garbage. It was the Bruins series.
Starting point is 00:28:09 That's what they did the whole series. The whole series. Are you saying the Leafs made Swayman some money? Yeah. Yeah. Are you kidding me? Well, in Boston's defense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:19 They played really well, and it's like they invited the Leafs. All right. come to the slot right see what happens and they didn't bother and what we saw yesterday and and it's interesting because um if you look at the what did i tell you the impact chart oh yeah uh the the three guys that had the least impact everyone was positive yeah wildly positive and then marner matthews nylander with the least no nice oh sorry nice uh nice marner matthews with the the least effect and nice had a good game we'll talk about all i thought he had a great game But I think part of that is it's game two.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Part of it is it's the Nico Heischer effect. He's a very good matchup against them. Yeah, you're not going to dominate all four lines of the Devils. And I would say that what I saw last night, especially from the fourth and the third lines, were guys going to the net. You look at Pacioretty's goal, you look at Lorenz's goal and his almost other goal.
Starting point is 00:29:15 You look at Lorenz's almost goal against Montreal. I have a question for you, Adam. Please. Because earlier in the game, you're like, i don't know about this pontus holmberg third line center thing because i like his wingers a lot yes did your perception change throughout the game yes yeah okay i i got that and i was like you know what yeah i kind of understand and i don't know if it's going to be like that when the playoffs begin obviously it's october yada yada the more the game went on i'm like this guy doesn't
Starting point is 00:29:45 look out of place at all he doesn't he looks really good and he's a worker like when we talk about Steven Lawrence and the the bang and the crash I I think people think we're catering to a certain type of player Holmberg's not that at all and I think he I think Craig Berube is gonna fall in love with that player I really do you work so hard uh Jesse mm-hmm specifically on that track with these with these guys we saw Ryan Reeves in the first game and you had to have him in because of the arbor jack i stuff um then yesterday we see bobby mcmahon and bobby mcmahon lost his spot what did you see from bobby mcmahon that you're like okay he might just get this back no there's nothing they should do at all with the bottom two lines like i think those were
Starting point is 00:30:33 the fourth line in particular was the best line i think all game last night spectacular awesome to see and the david camp trade rumors hard stop camp had a hard stop game and i think like that's that's what you've been asking out of this this group for a while because so much is locked up in the top lines in the core that you it's hard to get the scoring and the the play out of the bottom two lines and last night was exactly what you want to see out of elise's team where it's the first two lines are not clicking they're not going well right now and they got a goal yeah the the tavara's goal was all domey like mike johnson who's slowly becoming the best uh broadcaster on air in canada right now like
Starting point is 00:31:15 he's doing a fantastic job he outlined the the fantastic play by domi to come from the weak side because you can slip away when you're on the weak side as a winger and come to the strong side get the puck and get feed it up to tavarez those beautiful connor timmons took that pick penalty without a stick and johnson held a vendetta for the rest of the game yeah let it bump into you When they highlighted Mitch Marner trying to get it before they come in offside. And it worked. It worked when they were offside. And he's like, oh, he did it.
Starting point is 00:31:42 I got that. I got that. The excitement he has while broadcasting a hockey game, you can genuinely tell he's into it. God, he wishes he was still playing. Yeah. Also, 50? How is he 50? He's 50.
Starting point is 00:31:55 Oh, my God. There's no way. Some people are just gifted. They're lying. 50 years old. He's not 50. Shut the hell up. No, you're not.
Starting point is 00:32:02 But with those bottom two lines, you don't mess with that. you don't change that at all until they they tell you that they don't have it anymore because right now it's really well after one game with two games it's really clicking so and New Jersey dominated Buffalo and I think that's the key you by the way you want to see an 0-3 team the Sabras oh baby uh but but uh the that yeah they stink holy shit now it's the first few games and it's always an overreaction before you even get to game 10 but who cares that's what we're year four Oilers lost six nothing I yeah exactly that game was crazy we'll talk about it but I want to I want to say that when I look at the bottom few lines what what is a test is that this
Starting point is 00:32:42 Devils team did play two games they're already into their season and they looked awesome against Buffalo it wasn't like Buffalo was ever in any of those games and they looked awesome top to bottom they looked tougher with Brendan Dillon on the back end Dougie Hamilton looks like he's coming back jake markstrom looked really strong again i know it's buffalo and i know jj peterka was out and i i get all that but my point is why was he out brandon dylan brandon dylan so but i i also want to say that i think i look at this uh i look at those two lines against the new jersey devils that's a real test you know i made fun of you a little bit earlier like yeah it's the home opener and i'm like ah toronto's beat them every time for the last few years at home i get it but but
Starting point is 00:33:26 But the reality was that the core four guys, and I know some of them are taking heat online today. It's like, stop it. Not every game can they score. And the problem was, and we said this many, many times last year, is when they weren't, the Leafs could not win. What we saw last night was three goals from the bottom two lines. In exactly, like, forget who they're from. Goals are going to go in. Goals happen sometimes.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Bobby McMahon's goal should not go in. Markstrom should have that. Markstrom, to me, is one of the most mystifying goalies in the league because he has two modes, Vezina candidate and replacement level. And the Bobby McMahon goal should not have gone in. Right. The Lorenz goal, it's a nice backhand. I don't really know if that one should go in.
Starting point is 00:34:21 You'd like a save on at least one of those two. what was going on during all three goals patch ready chaos in front second goal with mcmahon chaos in front third goal with lorenz what's happening chaos in front you even saw listen to your coach you saw matthews creating chaos with kova savage yeah and and oh i forgot about even though that didn't go in i saw matthews throw a pretty big hit against montreal to start off the game yeah behind the net he's not a huge hitter i saw tavaris tavaris when he hits it's like it's like i just don't want to hurt you too much but i'm gonna hit you nothing personal exactly but but there was there is shit going on in front of the net now yes at least with those two lines dude
Starting point is 00:35:03 listen to your coach listen to your coach listen to your coach listen to your damn coach sheldon keith would still be here if they listen to the damn coach now it's part of the coach's job description to be listenable like to to be like you know how there's players who are uncoachable Maybe you just can't get players to be coachable. Like, I think that's got to be part of your gig. The last guy told this team to go to the net. Yep. Couldn't do it.
Starting point is 00:35:36 And we know that. So if Berube has success doing it, I don't want there to be revisionist history with Keefe, like, oh, yeah, they were playing Keefe hockey, and I hated that stuff. He told them to do something. They wouldn't do it for several years. We know that now.
Starting point is 00:35:50 And I know we're two games in. So take grain of salt a week a week from now. This could change. But guys, I brought up Matthews for a reason. What's Matthews wearing this year on his shoulder? See, and what's he doing? Playing hockey, playing hockey, but he's committing to by doing what he did with Kovacevic. And and and also I couldn't tell which direction you were going.
Starting point is 00:36:11 And also, you know, throw in some hits against Montreal, whatever. And he did hit some posts like that. The Leaf Montreal game could have been four to one Leafs like it wasn't for the posts and all that. if ifs and buts i i get it yeah my point is if matthews commits to this nobody else has an excuse to not and i think yeah yeah and and it's like i look at it's not this is not a a hit again hit out against john tavaris at all but it seems like austin's like okay i'm gonna do this too and if you get guys going like that it was a sort of like what we saw last year when ryan reeves came in and i i specifically remember the minnesota game where uh two or three games in and he's
Starting point is 00:36:49 you know pummeling guys he and you saw someone and then he fought felino and you saw two guys in bertuzzi and domi who have an edge to their game yeah play with more of an edge because of that holy shit and and they struggled early matthew nice so let's talk about that that penalty kill where he ran through it was a dougie hamilton hamilton who's huge like the definition of trucked like just drove right through he like hamilton's gonna feel that today like just the the the the whiplash from when he hit the ice clean hit perfectly fine hit reverse hit like he had the puck when he hit him he ran him over steals the puck off of i don't remember who the other devil's player was at the other blue line and then he gets a clear shot on goal on markstrom
Starting point is 00:37:38 if that goes in there wouldn't be a nice jersey on the shelves today there wouldn't be it was absolutely unbelievable that line uh matthews marner and eyes i didn't i i know they didn't have the best game um i don't think they played poorly it's like if i had one piece of feedback from the first two games and a lot of people are going to roll their eyes and every time i've said this over the years i've been right mitch shoot it shoot it they know you're passing i don't think there's anybody that's gonna yeah yeah like no and mitch has a good shot i think i think that has been a problem with mitch is that he he does sometimes pass when he should shoot i think he could score 30 goals in his sleep oh yeah and like just there was a wraparound there that he could
Starting point is 00:38:24 have had but like he's so past first that he he didn't have the time to be like oh i can just tuck it right here um i thought it was most evident during the six on five at the end of the montreal game when i think they mustered one shot on yeah you know and he's not shooting in about like 90 seconds where they're completely dominating montreal and just cycling the puck around around the net all they kept doing was moving the puck in a circle around her and never just throwing the puck on the net and then they did a couple times and things kind of happened and is that dominating when you're cycling like you have possession right but is it truly dominant because because the team is perfectly fine in a six on five to let you have possession as long
Starting point is 00:39:04 as you're not what the bruins did right whole series so go ahead so jesse when you see that like so that is going to be and and max domi to an extent does this too max max and mitch are the best passers on this team the difference is i don't want max to shoot it that's the difference i would i'd rather mitch shoot it mitch has an unbelievable shot if you see this and it's they call it north south you're hearing a lot of north south hockey sure guys how how long do you think and i don't think it's going to be long before mitch goes okay you know what i'm just going to fucking shoot it i'm just gonna rip this that happened there was it was a few seasons ago i can't remember when it was he was in kind of a goal slump and i tweeted i'm like god i wish he
Starting point is 00:39:45 would just shoot it that's all he's got to do he has a good shot you can see every time he shoots it it's a good shot just shoot it and then i think he had two goals that night two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research together we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer register today at pmcf walk.ca you gotta try breakfast And what better way than with a delicious Pret organic coffee starting at just $1 all
Starting point is 00:40:41 day, every day now until December 31st at participating A&W locations in Ontario. hear that it's your money calling it wants a promotion elevate your savings with the scotia high interest savings account always earn high regular interest rates that grow the more you save and invest conditions apply visit scotiabank.com hisa to learn more scotia bank you're richer than you think now let's talk about a little bit about you know if there there are always going to be areas of concern and a major area of concern last year with special teams both sides of it and i'll start with the power play guys and and i'm gonna jesse i want to go to you on this one there is we have the same lineup on power play one as we've had for
Starting point is 00:41:44 three four years not really a lot of personnel change three four assistant coaches managing that power play what did you see in that unit split it up like it's we've we've done this a million times all of these good teams in in the nhl are going to a new thing where they don't just load up the one power play you and unless you're unless you're tampa where you can just be kucherov power play or colorado and or colorado we don't really have the horses to do two units like i think it's a little yeah i think like i think the the colorado you can just throw out kucherov out there you know he's gonna he's know he's gonna score on the power play either he's gonna get an assist or he's gonna get a goal toronto doesn't work like that they struggle
Starting point is 00:42:24 with loading up so the best thing to do is to just try something different and they refuse to do it time and time again and we see other teams who like if the second unit comes out and they're also dangerous because they have somebody on there like why not give somebody in this top unit their own second unit the second unit isn't the second power play unit it's the don't screw up the line change unit yeah uh the first unit gets off the ice make sure you don't screw that up all right what do we got what do we uh 35 seconds okay so we're not going to be able to do anything so when we're getting off the ice we just need to make sure we don't screw that up to bring out the defensive guys okay great yeah you're not dangerous no you're not a threat i understand
Starting point is 00:43:07 like the philosophy of you have everybody out there so then when the second unit comes on you're not handcuffed and you have to throw out your fourth line because everybody's out and those are the only guys you have left so you bring you bring the big guns back on the bench they get a little bit rest you can do whatever line combination you want coming back out and justin bourne talked a little about that when he talked about the william nylander at center thing um he wrote an article on that i don't know if we're getting that if you have there but i'd like to just talk two seconds about that take it take it go but um the power play thing it's you can sacrifice your line change after the power play whether you get the goal or not because it'll
Starting point is 00:43:42 it'll generate goals you know you're sacrificing the opportunity to have more bodies available the big guns available in the hopes that it generates more goals in the meantime isn't it better if you don't have access to austin and mitch because they scored like yeah why not just mix things up and throw more people out there and then hopefully they get a goal and then you sacrifice the line changers that are going to follow but then you have a goal on the board which is the point of the game is to score more than the other team and what if you had the depth to trust the people that are coming out after the power play as well right like okay so you know you load up that top unit and i'm looking at daily face off right now and so they have the updated
Starting point is 00:44:23 lines from last night one thing that i think i'm struggling with something because tavaris is good down low but is he good down low in front of the net and i think so a lot of tip tipping goals and that sort of thing so i don't think you take him off that uh william could william neilander could finish austin matthews is the best finisher in the league at the moment mitch martyr is one of the best passers the leafs have ever had yes i look at and i mentioned this last year with klingberg who was not the guy i look at morgan riley who is a points phenomenon i'm not taking away from morgan's game but one thing the leafs do not have on the first power play unit if you're gonna make a switch to me it's morgan riley because how many times have we seen oliver
Starting point is 00:45:07 ackman larson already rip it i i've been like that player man for one of the first two games of the year and i i've been on this guy because i loved him in florida too uh didn't love the vancouver thing but i think that was more contract and the team sucked i think i would have told you that uh oliver ackman larson to me makes a lot of sense on the first power play and if you're gonna Give it a look. Exactly. If you must. If you must keep all these guys together, and you don't have to.
Starting point is 00:45:33 I thought Domi and Matthews were amazing together last year. I don't know why they haven't gone back to it yet, even in preseason. You mean 5-on-5? They were great 5-on-5. Yeah. I mean, try them on power play together. But Oliver Ekman-Larsen seems like the easiest, let's try that first guy. Because he has run top power play units for bad teams.
Starting point is 00:45:53 Imagine what he could do for a good team. i guess i just don't we we did talk about this a couple shows ago i guess if you put domi first line right wing i just don't know what you do with the second line then so like are you mitch isn't playing the left he's never done that with the leafs nylander's done it a bit do you do nylander in the middle tavaris on the left and nye stays with matthews just nice i don't i don't see why if you can have matthews when the face up i know you want to set matthews up for one time or off the face off so that that might play into this are you talking about the power play or five power play power play oh i'm talking about power play okay that's why i'm saying put oliver eckman
Starting point is 00:46:28 larson in for morgan riley on the first power play unit try that first if if you got to make one change one that's the one and then i look at if you want to make another change a guy i would i would sincerely look at is is max doming i think he and matthews have something and can you can you convince max to get in front of the net and get nasty pull tovaris onto the second power play unit and then you still got marner matthews kneelander on one unit or even like here's how low the bar is start the second unit well and so there were people getting upset about the fact that the leafs did play the second unit a lot more than they have in the past they were getting upset about that yeah and i and i did you see the first unit right if you look at the aggregate of
Starting point is 00:47:13 what the leafs power play unit has done over the last few years over the course of a season there's no doubt that they're one of the best power play units in the league however guys let's look at it from mid-february to the end of whatever game they end in the playoff yeah annual gaslighting right the power play gaslights us every year oh maybe this is the and they die well because they also don't make any adjustments the trade deadline happens and they lose all their powers it's because it's it's a it's something that's highly defensible you can figure out what they're going to do and and so i think power plays uh especially with the leafs have been far too too much the same maybe they didn't feel like they had the horses on the second unit i think
Starting point is 00:47:59 they do now i think there should be some fluidity with this i agree remember we talked to keith acton in the spring uh when we were at the um we were at boston pizza stovill yes and keith was former assistant captain with the leafs and he said you need to know about 20 games out from the playoffs which your lineup's gonna be so and and i get that's such a good number that he threw out it's a quarter of the season yep but that's when they die right that's when they disappear so i think now let's shake it up a little bit and see what happens like did anybody have several options did anybody predict last year that we were going to see bertuzzi domi matthews no and yet they were the top line going into the playoffs
Starting point is 00:48:40 and they were spectacular and so why can't we try these things out and I think they will there's how many games so many games there's 82 of them you got plenty of time to experiment I also want to look at a guy like Matthew Nyes and it's
Starting point is 00:48:56 going to come down to him earning it but you saw what he did to Dougie Hamilton last night what a barbarian does he not fit somewhere on the first unit as a big scary body in front of the net yep or a guy digging in the corners just try it just try it like oh you had 35 points last year i still remember when people looked at me sideways and i'm like why not try hyman on the leaf power play there was a time where that was a dumb idea yes there literally was a time where it was barely
Starting point is 00:49:23 a justifiable plan yes and then oh he's starting to score okay he's doing all right and now he's one of the best goal scorers in the league another guy who might get a look on the power play over the course of this season um uh and this this will come down to injuries and stuff but connor timmons cabin pipetti tweeted this and i thought you guys would find this interesting uh and i i'll be straight up i said this on wednesday i'll say it now i wrote connor timmons off right away i was like no way he's gone i wrote him off before july and he looked he's looked not out of place uh so he said it's kind of funny how connor timmons has quietly put up 24 points in 51 games as a leaf that is a 39 point pace for reference matthew nice had 35 and 80 yeah but that wasn't that wasn't the
Starting point is 00:50:07 knock that wasn't the knock he said never in a million years that what i guess that timmons had more points per game than nice and it's an interesting fact connor timmons though the problem with him before has he's been one-dimensional yes you're an ofd uh offensive defenseman on the third pair offensive a third pair offensive defenseman is a justifiable thing to have in the regular season playoffs arrive take care we got no use for you we if you're we don't have use i don't think you have a use for defensive liabilities no you don't in you know the playoffs especially deeper in them yeah there's no what are we doing we got a plan around you because have you uh have you ever heard the Pat Beverly story about Kawhi Leonard
Starting point is 00:50:58 uh Pat Beverly was on a podcast talking about playing with Kawhi Leonard and uh their coach you know sent some player out there and Kawhi's like you know what well why isn't this guy out there oh well we you know we want to get this matchup you know we we don't like that defensive matchup or whatever and apparently kawaii said so why is he in the game like it's true it's true if we can't trust you out there what are you in the game for yeah why is he in the game and like timmon's offensive gifts make it so that if you don't have to plan around him like that you gladly have him in your lineup but that's just not how we so have we seen guys have we seen more from him i see it's a physicality yes he's taken two penalties in two games
Starting point is 00:51:52 oh there's been way too many penalties taken way too many penalties uh the penalty last night was pretty soft oh that interference was bull it was pretty soft it was a very october penalty um simone benoit i mean it's not just him and taking too many penalties uh ben was taken too many as well to start the season and that's not dissimilar to how it was last season the willy thing last night i thought was ridiculous like the the penalty on jack hughes and then slapping the puck after francis iran threw him a bone by not giving him four he did oh yeah you can't do that um mike johnson on the bench like oh he's got a hope for two and ten instead of two and two he got two and zero and if i'm the devils i'm screaming bloody murder even though the penalty
Starting point is 00:52:38 advantage was five to two um but that's not unusual for the beginning of the season so I'm not overly worried about Berube's team taking too many penalties and if you remember and I've brought this up before I'll bring it up again a big reason why the St. Louis Blues won the 2019 Stanley Cup is they took I think it was 16 penalties through the first two games of the Stanley Cup final it was crazy and Berube just went harumph in the media about it. Not enough that he got fined, but he just went harumph
Starting point is 00:53:13 and the whistles disappeared, evaporated, disintegrated, were nowhere to be found for games three through seven. They died. They were gone. They were gone and the Blues won a game against the Bruins by
Starting point is 00:53:30 basically, I think it was was it Bozak trucking Achari or he tripped him or something there was a very bruins fans will remember they know exactly what i'm talking about right now it's seared into their memory um i we need berube to weave a little bit of that magic because we know sheldon keith did not have that kind of pull with officials and that's one thing devils fans are gonna have to get used to this guy has not made himself liked to uh guys who wear black and white jess i wonder if berube teams take a lot of penalties and whether maybe
Starting point is 00:54:05 it's they take a lot of penalties and not all of them are called or if they take a lot of penalties and there are a lot of them are called i'd like to check that through his time in st louis it's the dustin bufflin thing it's the paul maurice thing and ironically they were together for a while uh and and this is why when when people go yeah well this team is the most penalized and okay it doesn't matter that they're the most penalized and one of the most penalized it's it should be more right it's how many infractions do they actually commit that aren't call yeah like the Leafs took five penalties to the Devils two last night uh a couple of the calls were pretty soft they also let a couple go like it was very early regular season officiating I
Starting point is 00:54:47 think five was about right right um it's it's it's officiating yeah you have no idea what you're getting any given night on the on the Nylander penalty front I thought that was like I don't don't know if it's laziness or just you're falling behind the play but grabbing grabbing him like that that's a pure hustle thing where you're trailing and you're you're reaching out for that and then to be frustrated as well and do that i thought that was unacceptable i thought it was a lot more unacceptable on the frustration part like it's jack hughes right it's a really good player um you know maybe he just had an elander beat in that one situation right so if if you're b it's not your job to reach out and take a penalty and take a penalty yeah you know i understand and
Starting point is 00:55:28 you're saying it's jack hughes it's william kneeland yeah that's fair anybody is in the company of that player it's that guy next to him on the ice someone makes more right and it's not jack you a lot more yeah i thought i thought william william kneelander has had a really rough two games if we're talking about some of the the disappointments so far i don't think it's been great it's two shots on goal hasn't really had an impact the him coming the the thing about coming out of training camp with the the center position was just a whole bunch of nothing um it was literally nothing it was literally nothing and it's two years in a row that it's fabricated nonsense yeah and both times it's been well we know for sure from the 2023 season that it was
Starting point is 00:56:11 Bradshaw Living who was coming in he said I looked at this thing and I said William Nylander needs to be center and Sheldon Keefe said it so much in the media I just got here and that was two I just got years ago and Sheldon Keefe tried it and then he pulled the plug on it before the season started And then this year, Craig Berube comes in and he outlines the lineup. I think William Nylander is going to be center. And we all laughed and joked about it. We're like, oh, this is the time they're going to do it. And Willie himself joked and laughed with the media that, hey, you got to ask the last coach why it didn't stick.
Starting point is 00:56:41 I think we know it doesn't stick. Ask the current coach why he didn't bother. He didn't even bother using it in a game that counts. No, and I think we know now that it's not there for him. It's just not happening. It didn't work because it's not because of the GM who wanted to try. It's not because of the two coaches who wanted to try. It's because he doesn't have it in him to play center.
Starting point is 00:57:01 And I think we just, let's just commit to that. And I don't want to be doing that. And if Holmberg is a good 3C, then my whole thing about the Leafs. Maybe he'll be a good 2C. Well, no, I think Tavares is the 2C. But if you have, listen, as long as Tavares is quick wingers, Willie and Domi are, he's going to be fine. It's when you put Tavares with somebody else who's slower in the playoffs,
Starting point is 00:57:22 that's a problem. And the game does slow down in the playoffs, but it becomes an issue when you don't have that speed on the wings. You're going to have to insulate that. And if you can find a 3C, which they cannot find. Then why is he in the game? They have not had. You have to insulate that?
Starting point is 00:57:35 Then why is he in the game? Oh. Hey, okay, Mr. Load Management. People have insulated him from Hawaii as well. Why am I in the game? But the Willie not being a great center, it goes down to like his face. Craig Brewery said he needs to work on his face-offs and little skills.
Starting point is 00:57:53 He said that at practice. And that play with Jack Hughes, you know, if you're falling behind the play like that, if you're the centerman on the number two line on this team, you can't be taking a penalty like that. So you see more examples like it's just not going to work. Here's what I would like. Saturday, Hockey Night in Canada, Pittsburgh Penguins,
Starting point is 00:58:13 Sidney Crosby, Evgeny Malik, and Willie Go. That's what I'd like. Willie Go what? Give him the challenge. Put him in center. put him in center what are you doing maddie said no i don't know what are you talking about we know it's not i don't think so i want to see it give him a challenge star players um yeah well the challenge would have been you try it through the preseason then you commit to it and then you give
Starting point is 00:58:36 him a run and they tried it for one preseason game and then the second one he hit his head and they never did it they they irish goodbyed it too they weren't even like nah never mind they just take care no it just disappeared no they they asked i was reading from jonah siegel like they asked him at practice like hey what's going on with the the william neilander thing he talked about the face offs and all that little stuff he needs to work on somebody had a follow-up question and then craig brube's response was i don't think we need to talk about this anymore and they shuffled along that's it it's shut down it's done like it's don't come to me again next year with this nonsense i laughed at it three weeks ago when i was like do you remember the
Starting point is 00:59:14 quotes from last year when you said you were committed to it and then where are we right now and i said i'd give it to wednesday for when a game happened to see if they'd shuffle and he'd get some time there and none of that's happened okay so that's just what i want to say all very valid all very valid yeah we're we're let's do a compliment sandwich yes we started with the bottom six and then you have smelly dog farts right which is pp and yeah okay six opportunities zero goals Yeah, smelly dog farts. Dennis Hildeby. First NHL game, first NHL win.
Starting point is 00:59:47 Looked really good. Oh, yeah. We really like that. What did he get here? The Hildeby. No, that's... He does this thing where he goes like... Like really high.
Starting point is 00:59:59 Nice. And it just reverberates through the whole house, and I'm like, I was sleeping. Anyway, Hildeby, really, really good. We haven't talked about Chris Tanev yet. I'm going there next. He's getting there. There's a lot.
Starting point is 01:00:12 But you know why we haven't talked about Chris Tannev, Adam? Because we don't have to. Exhale. When he's on the ice. Hang on. No. There's one thing I've got to say about Willie. What?
Starting point is 01:00:26 Here are the next few games, and then we'll talk, Chris. Go for it. Penguins, you can't play Willie at center if you're going to try it. You can't do it against the Kings. You can't do it against the Rangers. You definitely can't do it against the Lightning. the earliest I think they could try Willie at center in the regular season
Starting point is 01:00:40 is against the Blue Jackets on the 22nd of October. Adam, you know where you learn to swim? The water. Get in there. You want to try it in shallow water first, though. The preseason? Nah. We don't have any. It's too far down the line.
Starting point is 01:00:56 You know why there's a hole at 3C? Because you got a guy like Chris Tanev. The money's got to be allocated somewhere. You want Chris Tanev. The team's built in a situation where you can't have everything. So you get a defenseman like that. You can't really feel the 3C through free agency. But we have Chris Tanev, who has been awesome.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Chris Tanev is when your parents pick you up out of your car seat because you fell asleep on a drive. Chris Tanev is... No one in a car seat is listening to this. The last time you're... Yes, but they remember what it was like, Jesse. Chris Tanev is being carried up the stairs Chris Tanev
Starting point is 01:01:38 is here this is an adult experience the people in the car seat might be listening but I highly doubt they understand your words some of us have done the picking up part that'd be better if you came from that perspective so that people can relate
Starting point is 01:01:54 and the tranquility that your kid has while they're still asleep but they put their arms around you and they put their head and your shoulder there and you're like, oh my God. But what about when you're really tired
Starting point is 01:02:04 and you get into bed and it's nice and it's cool and you get under the sheets. Now whose perspective are we going from again? I'm stealing this. No, I'm alternating
Starting point is 01:02:13 perspective for fuck's sake. All right. Good. This is you get into bed after a long day and there's no feet in this story, Jesse. You get into bed
Starting point is 01:02:24 after a long day and this is, I'm stealing it from the basement yard and I don't care and you just go, that feeling and then you get
Starting point is 01:02:33 one of those stretches where your legs kind of like vibrate that's having Chris Tanev on the ice do you remember where have you been all my life
Starting point is 01:02:41 do you remember when Tarantino had a foot fetish so he made a scene where he got to lick feet so he got to drink off of Selma Hayek's feet weird
Starting point is 01:02:49 yeah odd dude um hey Flo Buds Joey Ferguson Joey Ferg I was trying to say
Starting point is 01:02:56 something so wholesome and you brought it there you went a lot of ways and we're not even talking about monday night stream yet i mean come on the nation makes its return uh uh joey ferg uh who writes one of the who does some of the best leafs t-shirts out there merch uh great great leafs merch uh he said last night or this morning excuse me watching chris tenev is making me realize that i don't think i ever even knew what exactly an effective stay-at-home defenseman was supposed to be doing.
Starting point is 01:03:28 And when the Dubas era started here in Toronto, there was very much, and I think it was bought into a very much an anti, and this is Lou Amorello too, I include that, anti-stay-at-home defense. Because usually what stay-at-home defense meant in Toronto was bad. They can't do offense, so they must be good at defense.
Starting point is 01:03:47 And in Toronto's case, most of the time they were just bad. there's stay at home because you're good at it and stay at home because you have to because you because if you do anything else you're going to be exposing yourself god bless simone benoit stay at home because he has to and he's pretty good at it yes yes zero shade zero hate chris tenev is i got this and so there's something i want you to check out peter holland who's a former relief center uh and uh you know tried to make the colorado avalanche last year and a great comeback and played with the eagles and that sort of thing he had a video much like what frank corrado does online and he was talking about it's just something boring defensive zone exits that's
Starting point is 01:04:31 all he and he was talking about and and you know who else does this really well is oliver eckman larson and he was but but in specifically chris tan if he shoulder checks uh he says this is a Montreal game he'd shoulder checks a couple of times and notices that Montreal are going to plug the left board and the right board so what's he do he throws it up he knows the center the center of the ice is going to be available because they got two guys plugging the left one guy plugging the right and he goes I'm just not going to just ring it up around the boards I'm going to catch the centerman who is coming off of the bench and curling over the blue line and then in momentum chris tenev shifts his weight turns catches the centerman with a fucking perfect pass and the
Starting point is 01:05:16 centerman doesn't lose a stride right up the ice i don't care how old he is i should have gave him eight i it was it's i don't care i love him but i'm deeply in love i'm madly in love simple but complicated in the sense that you got to know what you're fucking doing yes but simple in the fact that the execution isn't actually that crazy no and yet very few can do pass the puck to someone wearing your jersey it's it's a crazy god but but here's the thing part of the leafs defense problem is that they had to play defense too much right yeah and and they were a bit thin on defense like i would say last year the best stay-at-home defenseman for the least was simone benoit right and jake mccabe last night caught a pass from matthews and it's unfortunate that it had
Starting point is 01:06:02 to be jake mccabe he's chaos man because he's chaos chaos defenseman chaos with the puck yeah um i love jake mccabe i think he's amazing and i'm glad they're working on an extension and that's awesome but like jake mccabe at you know a couple years ago had to run toronto's power play when morgan riley was out and it's not good that's not what he's there for um i look at a guy like mccabe who can look at a guy like tanev i look at a guy like oel as well defense is how quickly can i get the puck out of the zone defense is not getting pinned for a minute and then thank god i cleared it and i think in toronto what we've had is a bunch of holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit hey that's good defense they got it out after a minute and sometimes it's good holy shit but
Starting point is 01:06:45 it's very often oh no no no no no well yeah it's like oh we we just got out of that one yeah and i think what what the ethos was how many puck moving defenseman i.e a lilligran can we get justin hall dermot dermot where hey they move the puck so they'll be good on the defensive zone kyle had a type he had a type well okay uh can you get it part of hockey's getting the puck and and so there was something that peter holland brought up too and he and he talked specifically about josh anderson okay there is a scene in this video and again it's only a minute and a half go to peter holland's twitter account watch it uh where you've got tenev skating in josh anderson skating in they're both neck and neck with each other going into the Leafs defensive zone and he
Starting point is 01:07:30 said watch how Tanev manages this and he what he does is he's like I'm not gonna cleanly steal the puck away from Josh Anderson who's gigantic and always plays the Leafs well yes um I am just gonna hold him up and and bump him get some skin on him and that's what he did and he said he waits for support and the support comes you know credit to the Leafs secondary for for seeing it and they get the puck and they get the puck out and back down into montreal's i wish i could retroactively make chris tan of a grimsman i love him i love him two games the bar was set so nice and low for him like i keep but he's also the best at it yeah dude i keep calling him the best right-handed defenseman the least i've had in 20 years and there's no it's not a bit i'm not kidding he is
Starting point is 01:08:16 like kind of by a wide margin yeah and i i think it's going to make a huge difference for this and i keep your eyes on all of reckman larson too he's very good at it yeah but he doesn't he doesn't have the same responsibility no he doesn't you know what i mean very good you need second pairing defenseman but oh chris like go back to 2014 i love you i can you write a good best man speech i'd love to have you uh uh quick other things on the leafs uh before we move on to other things because we have to uh joseph wall uh ellie friedman was saying it today um and we were hearing it for the last couple of weeks uh does not look right according to somebody within the leafs organization dude it was this was readily available information like the we talked
Starting point is 01:09:05 about him uh i get it people don't want him to be injured i neither do i but don't shoot the messenger yeah man like he okay through five games he played 30 minutes he's the starting goaltender that's noteworthy and i apologize for that truth the last game of the season he played a full 60 but the practice before that full game reporters were like he doesn't look right he plays a full 60 looks all right plays well and we go oh okay maybe everything's fine and then the day of the opening game of the season he's thrown on ir and we know he's going to miss a minimum four games here's what i like about berube though and they mentioned this uh in the during the game uh last night is that craig berube took a team that was in last place and said uh we got that binnington
Starting point is 01:09:52 guy and oh no sorry sorry billy husso and whoever the other goalie was uh we got this binnington guy let's try him and wrote him all the way to the cup and i look at that and i know that people were like why wasn't matt murray starting last night was because he hasn't played hockey much in 18 months and probably needs to play in the ahl first in the preseason but he'll to be i don't think berube is going to be afraid to play hill to be if he has to and he went won a cup with the third goalie it's what do we need wool for that just sounds like bennington with extra steps you're just call up hill to be and just get healthy people yell at you in the comments it was jake allen jake allen yeah who was the great goalie who was the who was the goaltender for most of
Starting point is 01:10:30 the season then bennington stole the job um uh leafs someone else was there also had uh green what was it chat i had a that's made up chad johnson oh 10 sounds like a new york jets uh quarterback from the last 20 years yeah uh leafs likely to trade lilligran so apparently they're looking to find a spot for him elsewhere here's the thing i've never seen a trade in october be great but i can tell you where uh you can get some real value for a right shot defenseman that doesn't fit in your system trade deadline and i you know people are like let's clear the space now you don't need yarn croak you don't need comp you don't need doer you don't well i i actually think a lot of leaf fans like doer but you don't need comps contract you don't need
Starting point is 01:11:17 yarn cooks contract you don't need lilligran's contract the reality of the situation is they can carry them well and also guys get hurt and guys get hurt and i look at lilligran and i go okay yeah you could try to he's probably not thrilled being the eighth defenseman on this team fine but he is and he doesn't fit berube system and it seems like this is coming to an end i would wait until you get value for him guys like that are so valuable going into trade deadline and i just look at this and i'm like okay do you want a third and a fifth round pick for timothy lilligren or do you want maybe a second here's how it could work potentially i don't think you're getting a second for him i would love that but at trade deadline you got
Starting point is 01:11:58 defense they also might need the cap space before that yeah and he also has to be in the lineup for them to get a second like yeah he has to increase his value by playing remember the old pump and dump with enough like they need something like that or you you're gonna have to be your hand is gonna be forced when guys come back from injury because you need that cap yeah if he plays well enough to be worth a second round pick you keep him yeah that's what that's what i think and we have to see more from connor timmons too to see if he actually sticks yeah and there's also and we haven't even had myers playing that's what i mean philip myers is an interesting one too the error here is letting it get to the point where lilligren is probably their ninth defenseman
Starting point is 01:12:37 like that's that's probably ninth that's probably the ninth if you're putting myers ahead of him uh so be timid i don't want to count it eight then i think sure yeah sorry eight cool so he's damn eight defense coconut that's that's the problem where you have that guy for at this point the the time to make the move is the off season yes when you're doing the lines when you're projecting the depth charts you move off of it so you get all that cat space at the time now wait though um because they have guys potentially coming back from injury in about a month there's a couple of really interesting options here what if someone gets hurt am i not wrong with ninth you were doing the count i didn't do the count if hawk and paw is healthy right it's ninth it's
Starting point is 01:13:16 nine right yeah yeah i think he's eighth now but if hawk and paw is back in even two months beginning in december you're absolutely right whatever game rap i was reading or whatever i was reading on lilligren it's somebody wrote eight nine oh you're right no he could at the like the low end he's the ninth defenseman on this team so okay a month into the season doer will be coming back uh yarn croak will be coming back um but guys get hurt what if you need lilligren all of a sudden you can put him in the lineup like i don't i'm not in love with this defenseman he can play nhl games it'll be fine we'll all live um or you don't need them but someone else does because if the leafs don't get any injuries i guarantee you one of the other 31
Starting point is 01:14:01 teams will yeah and take advantage of that yes yeah so i really don't see the leafs position right now is anything other than strong yeah okay uh and and uh does is dakota murmis just an ldir guy or what's the deal no he um i want to say dislocated his jaw yeah but is he a leaf roster guy or is he he's injured he's on ir i know but like if like if he hadn't dislocated his jaw would he be a guy to make this team he he might get the roster spot that myers got okay but like just because he played more games in the nhl last year but because he was with them during the preseason and got injured during the preseason you can't just be like all right we're gonna send you down to the ahl and you're gonna make your ahl salary he's on uh their nhl roster um and it was yeah he
Starting point is 01:14:50 had jaw surgery on september 27th jaws that's gonna be a while they said he's week to week as of now so he's got to be do the ir stints and then they're gonna reevaluate i wonder if he's got like do you think he's got it wired shut though like is he on an old soft food yeah you can't throw on the cage and you're good i mean like minimum you can skate well i mean it's not like your quality of living is lower. You're not eating good food. You're probably not sleeping well. You're probably pissed off all the time.
Starting point is 01:15:22 It's also not important for the Leafs to get Murmurs back in the lineup, or in the lineup at all. Fix your face. Give them some time here. Fix your face. If it was, they would have bigger problems. Yes!
Starting point is 01:15:37 Two in five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research together we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca You gotta try breakfast at A&W You gotta try breakfast at A&W And what better way than with a delicious Pret Organic Coffee
Starting point is 01:16:22 Starting with just $1 all day, every day, now until December 31st You gotta try breakfast at A&W At participating A&W locations in Ontario this show is sponsored by better help sometimes it takes a push from somebody else uh to go and and seek a little therapy a matthew nye's level push about yeah yeah perhaps not that hard yeah that's that's like bowling over somebody uh but i will say that like the person that pushed me was my mom she's like you know what i think you could use therapy and and uh i resisted because sometimes I'm stubborn.
Starting point is 01:17:03 I don't know if you guys know that. Part of the process. Can I be obstinate sometimes? I don't know. Anyway. I'm going to play video games and listen to rock and roll. Yeah. And you can talk about that.
Starting point is 01:17:12 Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And the thing is, is that I'm so glad I did because it's been a feature of my life on and off since I told you, since I was 18 years old. And the thing about it is with BetterHelp, you can kind of curate it to your schedule. There's going to be times in your life with therapy
Starting point is 01:17:28 where you need it every week because you're going through something and you need perspective and you need help. There's gonna be times like thankfully where I am right now, where it's maybe once a month, maybe once every couple months, just to do a check-in.
Starting point is 01:17:39 And the great thing about BetterHelp, which therapy, this was not available when I started doing therapy, which is it's outside of working hours and it could be any mode that you want. So it can be a conversation like it's MSN Messenger back in the day where you're just typing to each other. It could be a FaceTime.
Starting point is 01:17:57 It could be a phone call. it's up to you with better help and we want you to give it a try and to help you with that we want to be your your matthew nye's push damn although we don't want to bully over on this but we will give you this 10 off your first month betterhelp.com slash sdp that's better help h-e-l-p.com slash sdp so i do need to we need to move on from the toronto maple leafs uh no we don't anyway so jesse jesse i did send you a text and i want you to bring something up uh the bruins thing yeah Okay. So, Steve, so first, before we talk about the Bruins-Panthers game, and we'll go real
Starting point is 01:18:33 quick on it, but there's some stuff in there, and I thought it was interesting, and there's obviously Bruins have played two games, but what's your favorite thing to get when you go to a Leafs or Blue Jays or Raptors or whatever game? Or Boston Pizza or Shoeless Joe's or any restaurant ever. That we've ever worked with. Chicken fingers. I love chicken fingers. i want to show you if you go to td garden oh shit what the chicken fingers come in oh
Starting point is 01:19:00 a zamboni chicken fingers box oh and they call them chicken tenders there but all the same how sick is that so it's a it's a collectible zamboni chicken tenders box and i'm assuming there's a it's loaded with fries as well uh but the picture is from celtics grd um does it come with a driver that beats your team no it does not come with a driver that beats you whoa that's so delicious how cool is that actually you know what's great i said it's so delicious where are the chicken fingers yeah they look like no picture are they any good well but i want that in my life and body so immediately steve you shouldn't be impressed with this at all why because one time in our life we did something maddie take that off the screen so i can bring up something for
Starting point is 01:19:46 for steven just to jog his memory we've been somewhere together and we saw much much better chicken finger packing than that plus we saw the actual fingers which were much more delicious than the non-existent boston td garden chicken fingers we saw the new york yankee cup chicken tenders do you remember when we went to yankee stadium together when we were down there for the john tournament and we saw the giant bucket of fries and tenders that the yankees serve that's just efficiency right there that's brilliant the can you describe it for everybody oh my god okay so it's it's one of those like giant novelty beer or pop like collectible cups that you'll see except there's the extra bowl essentially at the top with a straw going into it and in the bowl
Starting point is 01:20:42 around the straw are crinkle cut fries and chicken fingers i had to swallow because my mouth is like i'm actually salivating i heard it you know wow those look good yeah the states have their issues you know america is not a perfect country but they have a knack an uncanny knack for coming up with food related gimmicky things that just make me oh say does that star like it just makes me patriotic for a country i'm not from and look at that and i don't even know if this is the most impressive thing because if you remember they have this the collector's cup but they also have the bucket where's the i'll bring up the bucket i'll bring up the bucket i just remember garlic fries those were diabolical just oh my god i had such a good time who even won uh uh yankees
Starting point is 01:21:42 lost uh to houston oh yeah they got killed i forgot about it the mets fan that was there for no reason was loving like let me find the bucket so they also have the oh yeah it's the mastercard one uh is that yankee no that's not yankee stadium it's just a bucket of chicken just give me a maybe the equivalent don't pretend like don't even acknowledge my right to dignity give it to me in a bucket this isn't the one at yankee stadium but they also have um a pale plastic bucket like a one you'll go you'll take you'll take your kid trick-or-treating right in a couple weeks where they'll have a bucket of candy they have one of those buckets and you'll get it and there's a bunch of sponsors around it and in it is just chicken fingers it's like 20 chicken fingers
Starting point is 01:22:24 forget chocolate fantastic chips if i come to your house on october 31st i want chicken that's amazing america does food just so much more crazy yeah and also we'll pay you to eat it it's negative three dollars i don't know how anyone makes any money it's awesome oh there's jeremy jacobs with his ice cream empire uh because that's what he does doesn't he do like all the ice cream and all the stadiums and stuff that's how they've made all their money yes it's crazy um fun stuff I wanted to say I just thought it was hilarious. A couple of things from the Bruins-Panthers game, which is already a game ago.
Starting point is 01:23:00 Sam Bennett just torpedoing Eunice Corposalo. Absolute just rocket ship right into his head. What's the suspension? Oh, yeah, of course. Corposalo gets absolutely cooked in his debut in the We Want Swayman Chance breakout. um uh trent frederick says that uh matthew chuck asked him to fight and then back down and trent frederick's like do you think that's good for the game like to the press afterwards i'm like this is
Starting point is 01:23:28 a good rivalry it's a great rivalry also can someone hand trent frederick the game notes and tell him who his captain is yeah right are we kidding then the last one is max jones getting an unsportsmanlike for accidentally almost chopping the ref's head off. He's so lucky he didn't get anything for that. Yeah. He's so lucky. I know it's an accident. I know he didn't mean to do it.
Starting point is 01:23:53 But you slashed a ref in the arm. I assume their unprotected arm. Now, on the Toronto hate scale, gentlemen, because we don't cheer for either of these teams. This is hating against Toronto or Toronto hates it? This is Toronto hates this. From a Toronto perspective. During the game.
Starting point is 01:24:09 So all of these things are happening. We're watching Boston get cooked. Things are good. Swayman's not back yet. Obviously, he played last night, and he didn't punch Nick Suzuki. He pushed off him. Fair. During the Panthers-Bruins game, it was announced that Carter Verhage
Starting point is 01:24:27 signed an eight-year contract at $7 million per season. Just $48 million of it will come in signing bonus, and his base salary will be $1 million per season. He is the seventh NHL player signed through the 2032-2033 season. Arrest Lou Lamorello. Well, you can't get mad at- Yes, I can!
Starting point is 01:24:55 You cannot get mad at that because the Islanders, the Lightning, and another team gave up on him too. Yes, correct. But I think he got lost in a number shuffle in Toronto. He was always a good prospect. They spent a third round pick on him and he performed well in junior.
Starting point is 01:25:08 and they simply were like meh and they just let him go along with four other dudes from michael grabner who they got to trade at the deadline and then didn't carter verhege will get 48 million dollars in no state tax oh like we're talking about a dude who scores a billion points coming off his stanley cup and he should be getting 15 million dollars on principle and because it's florida he gets less than half that and i am tired of watching them getting away with it yeah well i hate it and and so the next guy that i think is going to be interesting with the panthers there's actually two guys oh sam bennett aaron eckblad both out of contract at the end of the season was bennett 2014 draft yeah i think i think eckblad was the first overall pick that
Starting point is 01:26:01 year you might have been then it was fourth fourth there you go he could have gone first that was a weird draft yeah um because of the hurricanes uh the panthers received their rings in a private ceremony uh oh the actual hurricane yeah uh the actual hurricanes and uh panthers president ceo matthew caldwell said uh on the scripts sports broadcast that season ticket holders of 30 years will also receive a championship ring so however many people held on from the 1996 or 1993 and they went to the finals
Starting point is 01:26:34 in 96 or whatever but anybody that's had a season ticket the entire time is getting a ring too and there might be five of them but that's I was about to say I want to know how many people that is that's I would love to know what if it was like zero and you just make it you just say it nobody's gonna ask nobody's gonna know people are gonna love
Starting point is 01:26:50 us for it and we spend zero dollars I get all the goodwill and there's actually no one but I'm sure there's there's like a handful or like 10 people you know that's really cool yeah i feel i feel like fans deserve more when teams win championships you know like you have to go out and buy all the gear but i feel like reward all of your season ticket members with something yes the leaf should print print the leaf should manufacture two million diamond rings and by the way you'd be paying for them i'll do it i'll do it but i
Starting point is 01:27:22 shouldn't the season ticket holders give all of them something yeah like you're you're literally valued at like five billion dollars you can give away if you win one championship give away 18 if you have all season tickets or whatever 10 000 10 000 you know what size are you i'll bring give me your watch 10 000 rings 10 000 they cost you 20 million bucks you're worth five billion it'll be fine i don't even it's not gonna cost you uh 20 million bucks you know i was like yeah just just give away 20 million and you know that's why i'm not a billionaire uh well no i am But billionaires are not known for giving that stuff away. But I would say, listen, guys, if the Leafs ever win the Cup,
Starting point is 01:28:00 there will be some giving. And I'll tell you this. People think that jersey sales bring in a lot of money for teams. It doesn't. But $20 million in profit is about what a team like the Leafs would make in jersey sales. Say there's 10,000 season ticket holders. You give away $200 rings to each one of them.
Starting point is 01:28:17 That's $2 million. You're fine. The fact I don't have a ring is unconstitutional. You? Everything I don't like is unconstitutional. You, for what? Against the Constitution. Jesse, it's against what America says.
Starting point is 01:28:29 Linus Allmark has signed a huge contract extension, notably at the same number as Jeremy Swayman in Boston, four years, so not as long. What's better than friends? Four years, $8.25 million, and had a big win. And you saw the reaction from Senators fans. He's like, you know, it's a dream come true. It couldn't be.
Starting point is 01:28:49 He played it perfectly. he was like i i can't imagine you know playing in in canada's national capital people lost their fucking minds it's nice to see sens fans have something to scream about all mark signing in ottawa is the best most nice relaxing thing that has happened to the sens fan base in a long time yeah because now you get to go through a season without this will he won't he dance yeah he's your goalie what did he's your goalie he's your goalie now and you don't have to worry about him not being your that's your guy he's your goalie what did you think of the dragger tweet that's like a tidy business it actually works out to be 7.6 million over five years yeah no that was a
Starting point is 01:29:28 tidy piece of using the truth to lie uh because that's not how that works at all it's not even sort of how i just thought that was funny i thought that was funny yeah well then how come his cap hit next year is gonna be eight and a quarter yeah yeah um that's not true last night Amazon debuted in Canada, Amazon Prime debuted their first sort of version of ice surfing with P.K. Supan, Jason Jason Demers and Andy Petrillo. And it's basically it's like NFL Red Zone, only it's only it's in Canada and it's hockey. Interestingly, Frank Cervalli made an appearance on that and dropped a bomb. And it's interesting because Elliott Freeman also addressed it today.
Starting point is 01:30:10 And the bomb is Alexis Lafreniere and the New York Rangers and a potential $64 million contract. Eight years times $8 million. And Freej on 32 Thoughts this morning said, I've heard varying things about that situation. He wasn't willing to drop the number out there. Frank was. And that sometimes just comes down to your sources. But I wanted to ask New York Rangers superfan Jesse Blake, what do you think about Lafreniere and $8 million?
Starting point is 01:30:42 Is he worth the – I don't want to call it a gamble because it's not a gamble. But it is sort of like he had a breakout year last year finally, and that's – but 57 points is his career high in a season. Yeah. So $8 million is the number? Eight times eight. eight times eight eight times eight seems a little much um it'd come in uh just under
Starting point is 01:31:04 zabin ajad which is like i don't i don't think it's in the neighborhood of what he's gonna end up at like i think it'll be a little bit more reasonable especially because like the slow start to his career has been well documented um everybody loves chirping that how high he was drafted and how long it took to establish himself in the nhl and i think there's got to be at least some sort of benefit to the rangers for that we know what he is now but you haven't done it long enough yet so i don't think it comes in at a run don't walk right run don't walk sign that immediately you think you signed that i mean oh yeah oh yeah run okay run don't walk he was he was probably their best forward um in their conference final series that they ended up losing but uh he was really
Starting point is 01:31:47 good on that run he had a crazy back half and uh that number's not going up can i sorry it's not going down it gentlemen is it notable that he is currently on pace for 164 points yes it is i think imagine if he doesn't i think at the end of negotiations for it is a little lower than that that's i'm just guessing okay hey yeah if it comes in oh man like seven and a half oh i'll be crazy crazy i think i think it also matters um how old is he he's 23 Oh, he's 23 today. Today's his birthday. Oh, happy birthday.
Starting point is 01:32:24 Happy birthday. There you go. Happy birthday there. That'd be a hell of a present. Teams as good as the Rangers don't typically have players as good and as young as Alexi Lafreniere. They don't have first overall picks. How would you get that bad and then that good that quickly?
Starting point is 01:32:46 It's a rare situation. I think a 2020 draft year also contributes to that. That also contributes to it. How many times do we have to talk about that screwed a lot of players up? But I think that also contributed to the slow start to his career. And now the talent is breaking through. It's breaking through all that. And I think part of what's held him down is he's just on a really deep team.
Starting point is 01:33:05 We sort of talked about this with some players on the Stars last year. It's just a difficult lineup to crack, right? And it's difficult when you're a good player and they draft really well and you're getting lapped by another guy who's extremely good. It's got nothing to do with how bad you are or anything. For me, Lafreniere, the aging core, run, don't walk, 8 times 8. I think we're right in the neighborhood of where it should be because you look at Lucas Raymond who just got 8.075 by, what was that, 5, 4 years?
Starting point is 01:33:39 And then all those guys in Ottawa who are sitting at 8 right now who are in the same age range as Lafreniere. Stutzel is 8.3, Brady Kachuk's 8.2, Norris is 7.9. All of those guys who are in kind of similar situations where it's like, hey, you haven't done a whole bunch in the NHL level, but we know the talent's there and they're a very similar age when it's signed. So your eight's right there.
Starting point is 01:34:03 Like, it's not outrageous. Anybody who scoffs at eight, you shouldn't do that. But I think it should just be a hair lower. his next game in the nhl will be his 300th which doesn't seem real and the amount of games he's missed over his now four seasons this is his fifth season in the nhl crazy now is four so he's missing less than a game of season so far um dude sign this player run don't walk yeah get it done but they're the cap crunch coming to the new york rangers i find it is the most interesting part oh yeah oh guys are it's like guys are going like how do you how do you fit everybody in there if
Starting point is 01:34:37 you don't if the yeah that's the thing you don't because if the limit's like hey we don't want people above panarin or if igor is going to set the new bar for the rangers that's 11.5 million dollars somewhere or just above or below that coming on the salary caps for next year plus laugh at eight or just under eight plus everybody else that you need needs new deals like i think cooley's up too like there's a real cap crunch coming after this season yes no question no question um and i i thought the guy that uh um uh why is his name always escaping me i i always do what's my uh new york rangers and he's the big defenseman that tried to trade this summer jacob drew open the scoring for them i'm like well that's the last thing that'll happen uh yeah they
Starting point is 01:35:24 really man with the penguins they really played with their food eh that was a that was a that was There were a few of those. I mean, Edmonton got run over. But it's the first game, right? It's because it's Edmonton. Jets are up 2-0. I'm like, this means the rest of the game is going to be nuts because here come the Oilers.
Starting point is 01:35:46 And no. No. Not at all. I don't think McDavid had a shot on goal. Yeah. Best game of the week is the Vancouver game. Oh, that was frigging awesome. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:56 Very, very cool. Calgary game. Unless you're a Canucks fan. Yeah. And then it wasn't. It wasn't as good. I want to say. You got a point.
Starting point is 01:36:03 Yeah. Sure. Sure. Two in five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research. Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer.
Starting point is 01:36:31 Register today at pmcfwalk.ca. You've got to try breakfast at A&W. You've got to try breakfast at A&W. And what better way than with a delicious Pret Organic Coffee? Starting at just $1 all day, every day, now until December 31st. You gotta try breakfast at A&W. At participating A&W locations in Ontario. Utah had its very first game.
Starting point is 01:37:09 And there's some pretty exciting stuff that happened here. I talked to Alan, and I actually want to mention this because, by the way, Max Pacioretty, 67, scored the first goal for the Leafs. we have an agent provocateur coming out tomorrow and most of the show is how the patch-a-ready deal in Toronto came together. And so
Starting point is 01:37:30 conversations with the Leafs management, the conversations with the Leafs performance staff, which had a huge part in this. But I also asked him about Sean Dursey and the Utah experience in that first game. And we'll start with this, and I think this is the most
Starting point is 01:37:46 important part. The Jazz have played at the delta center since 1991 it's one of the older buildings in the nba it's now one of the older buildings in the nhl uh ryan miller who is a uh jazz beat reporter for ksl.com said former sabers goaltender yes not not actually but yes same name oh not not actually the same oh no ryan miller former sabers bully is not a reporter briefly no no definitely he's got 40 million bucks in the bank and he wants to be a beat reporter fucking hustling into every I was confused. I thought it was the same Ryan Miller.
Starting point is 01:38:18 Is Sean Avery getting an internship for some reason? Beer sales reached last night the $120,000 mark. More than any NBA or NHL event ever held at the Delta Center. Is this the only place you can drink in the state? No, but apparently they were, I guess. Like, holy shit. People on the Jumbo Chalk just crushed it. I saw that.
Starting point is 01:38:42 Isn't it because of the prices? We did that on the last episode. Remember, it was like $4 beer. So here's the deal. When you lower the price, people consume more. That's what I was talking about. In Atlanta, there are reports about their concessions in Atlanta where they have all the cheap shit.
Starting point is 01:38:56 It's like every game we have, the sales go crazy. We make back the cost that we've reduced because we sell so much because it's so cheap. Walmart models, right? Utah, I assume, just sold a whole bunch because the beers are really cheap. Yes, yes, absolutely. And it's the only place you can drink in the state.
Starting point is 01:39:13 Yeah, yeah. that's a fact unless you want so then i'm made up interestingly uh ryan s clark from espn said the utah hockey club said it drew 16,020 fans to the delta center by quote leveraging the use of this single goal view seating system to welcome guests to watch because the arena's typical hockey capacity is only 11,131 now this is going to change i thought that was yeah this is going to change and i have the view and i sent it to jesse we can't play it with uh we can play this because it's from the crowd but we can't play with music no we can't play anything in the arena yeah oh yeah even can we show a screenshot we can yeah i can do that yeah i can show a picture oh yeah
Starting point is 01:39:51 we can't play anything in the arena either in the nhl owns god things in arena it's so frustrating like um if if i were in the like i couldn't shoot an lfr from the stands after the game okay okay all right fine fine that's fine uh my my point in that in this is saying um i i they they filled out the whole thing and when you look sorry i need to correct myself that's not true and i know that's not true because i did that last year after the game it's fine it's you i can shoot an lfr from the stands i i can't you can't do it during the game from the moment the game starts until final horn is off limits okay that's cool um so uh anyway um i i wanted let's show the screen gap here aj has had it so you obviously can see that it's even difficult to see the net on the other
Starting point is 01:40:37 side this is very brooklyn islander this is the you can't see the net view yes oh wow you do have a view of this the jumbotron which a lot of people watch anyway uh when they're at games you just find yourself as a human being watching the tv screen but it's difficult to see both ends and yet here they were and i bet those tickets were severely discounted and part of it is just being a part of the i don't know well they were i don't know if i make that bet oh were they well dude the concessions are discounted yeah absolutely i just i saw in brooklyn too when the islanders were playing there i saw i saw some chatter about oh the tickets for utah are very expensive and i'm like yeah it's the inaugural home opener yeah of course of course it's expensive like it's that's
Starting point is 01:41:20 an unusual game to attend what alan said about it was that the the it was such a gigantic win i think the players are players and i think management are actually very surprised they thought they would be welcome but they didn't realize the reception would be like this yeah and i think that's pretty cool and and for a team that you know a lot of uh a lot of employees a lot of players long suffering in arizona with bad management let's be honest bad bad ownership not bad management um and not bad fans just bad ownership uh this is a nice change for them and i think what's been cool too is you're seeing utah hockey fans say to coyotes fans hey we want you to still be a fan of this team and you saw some coyotes jerseys in the in the stadium i love that
Starting point is 01:42:04 that was cool they deserve that they deserve that uh and it's it's it's a victory lap that the nhl is going to take for what for moving the team what victory perhaps 15 years after they should have gary didn't accomplish anything here besides making up for his mistake for all of those years in arizona hundreds of millions of dollars it cost yeah by holding on blue like two decades in a market that should have been successful and now he's celebrating like look what i did everybody i made hockey in utah who did this ryan's like no yeah the compelling offer and alan brings up a good point too you guys remember we did our huge all-star experience in toronto marty walsh marty walsh head of the nhlpa uh was the guy that kicked that off and said we are not going to accept this
Starting point is 01:42:51 anymore because and we're talking about alan's a lawyer right so in in in law you sign a contract basic premise is both parties need to be acting in good faith throughout the duration of that contract when you sign a collective bargaining agreement it's much the same and you could make the argument i don't know if it would be successful in court but you could have made the argument that by staying in arizona in those conditions it's bad faith because you are losing money to hrr meaning players are having to pay escrow you're not trying to make money you're depressing the value of the total amount of money that's coming in and so you know we've had a tough economy worldwide for about 18 months now probably before that too and yet you're seeing hrr hockey related
Starting point is 01:43:33 revenue explode and go up you know when we were talking pre-pandemic here the nhl was at 6 billion right they're now at 6.8 or 6.9 billion i wonder per year okay and that's a you know in a in a over a five-year span that's a really good growth curve when you look at just this market let's say it breaks even imagine what kind of add to the hrr that's going to be and what i mean by break even is um they don't lose money they don't lose a fortune and and maybe utah is a team that doesn't need to take the equalization payments right because you know the big teams the bostons the new yorks the torontos whatever we they all have to pay into a fund and a team like the coyotes would get five to ten million bucks a year just to help keep it up yeah instead of making this
Starting point is 01:44:23 decision many moons ago when he could have gary betman decided to take alex morello's word and put a team in a college facility and if you're talking about like good faith from the players association putting them in that arena is bad faith because it's not a professional experience yes so he decided we're gonna do this and we're gonna do this until they can build an arena and we're gonna keep trying this and making it work and he would continue to do that if it what if his hand wasn't forced and the owner had to bail out of everything and it's disgraceful that we got to that point seattle was never the 32nd nhl team it's utah yes arizona was just like it's 82 exhibition games a year for the last couple and it's too bad what are we doing it's too bad it
Starting point is 01:45:05 was a disservice to the fans we've already gone over all that no i did also want to mention that the public wi-fi for fans in utah if you're a basketball fan is jordan pushed off which is a reference to uh the jazz bulls series where uh they said michael jordan pushed off the ref disagreed and michael jordan trained a big three and it was a big big moment for me i thought that was funny yeah um i cry don't feel bad for you uh lots of news out of seattle oh with this game uh just i was watching all the games on tuesday it was a fun day fun afternoon of hockey this game chicago blackhawks they were right in at all game if it's not for a jason dickinson puck off his face that goes in the back of the net that game's two two and who knows what happened in overtime they look
Starting point is 01:45:50 good except for their special teams which is a disaster and none of those players know how to play on the power play um the blackhawks look decent i saw you getting a lot of heat the blackhawks look decent in this game and if a puck doesn't bounce off a face and in the back of the that it's 2-2 if some butts jesse yeah that's well whatever uh look these um seattle jessica campbell made her debut as the first woman coach in nhl history uh and they've all there's also a whole bunch of other news out of seattle seattle blew that game yeah they did the blues the blues took over like halfway through steamroll it's that made me upset because i'm like that's such a great story and oh look they're kicking ass and i checked the final score i'm like you stay yeah
Starting point is 01:46:32 Yeah, the Blues had a hot two minutes and it was over. They also announced before the game that Jordan Eberle would be the second captain in team history. It's the first time in NHL history that all 32 teams have a captain. And the first time since 2010-2011 that every NHL team has a captain at the same time. Really? Yeah, because I think the Leafs started this where when Sundin left, they were like, Yeah, we're not going to name a captain. We're not going to do it for a few years.
Starting point is 01:46:57 And really, you should never copy the Leafs on anything. So stop doing that. um i honestly think there should always be a captain i'm of that belief you should always have a captain but everly is uh he's one of my favorite players that i've ever like had the pleasure of talking to yeah i'm just i'm so i'm i'm very happy for him good guy uh joey decord signed a nice nice extension as well the talking about julian and chris talked about this really took the hard way to the nhl uh and went through a lot of different systems and stuff but hearing five times five was the first tweet that elliot sent out and it's five years 25 million bucks
Starting point is 01:47:35 good value for a good value goaltender for them yeah i mean their goaltending situation uh financially doesn't look awesome but i i feel like that's because of philip crew power yeah um uh decord five times five has a really good chance of working out based on how we played last i thought it was it was very funny when cj pointed out like the goaltender one of your goaltender signs this big extension and everything. He's not even the starter on opening night, the day he's signing his extension. Yeah, as a Joey Decord fantasy holder, I was pretty upset
Starting point is 01:48:07 about that. Yeah, you expected him to start. Yeah, well, I left my goalies till late. I got Aiden Hill. I don't know how the hell they let me do that. But yeah, let's start Joey Decord a little more. All right. It's a weird dynamic when it's like no, that guy's our starter. But also
Starting point is 01:48:23 let's lock up this guy because he might be better. Yeah. yeah um uh i want to mention that uc saros is injured uh and they're not sure quite yet when he's going to be back as of this recording but adam vingen uh tweeted this and i think this is kind of crazy um uh he said by my count scott wedgewood has allowed 18 goals on 65 shots in the preseason and regular season together which is a 723 save percentage you say 18 18 goals on 65 shots. So throughout, he's including the preseason, which isn't fair.
Starting point is 01:48:58 Preseason and regular season. But Scott Wedgwood had a terrible one game already this year. So preseason and one regular season game. I'm going to say that this doesn't count. 18 goals. No, it's a trend. 18 goals on 65 shots in the preseason and regular season, which is just one game.
Starting point is 01:49:16 He was pretty bad in his start. And people are already going, man sure would have been cool to have asked i was just gonna say that who's with the barracuda right now yeah yeah yeah supposedly he's working his way back well because there was a yeah there was a health thing right so don't don't be combining preseason stats okay well then the regular season one is 421 goals against averaging an 800 save percentage in one game yeah but uh what was the save percentage in practice yeah yeah yeah i mean what are we doing how are you doing like the like do they do the shootout drill you know let's add that to it nick robertson's been on fire
Starting point is 01:49:58 like so many goals oh hey hey hey hey if you include preseason regular season he's got five goals oh yeah small note none of those counted yeah okay they're not they're not actual goals It's something to keep an eye on. Do you agree on that? He's in the NHL right now. They counted. Yeah, that's right. Just not in the record books.
Starting point is 01:50:20 No. I do wonder what Nashville is going to do on that front because you have Matthew Murray, the other. Matthew Murray Jr. Oh, they got the other Matt Murray. Yeah. So he might be the guy that comes in next. We'll see.
Starting point is 01:50:35 You know how impossible it is to make the NHL and how impossible it is to make the NHL as a goalie. And somehow two of them are named Matt Murray. Who do you like better? The Matt Murray's or the Sebastian Ajo's? Sebastian Ajo's. Oh, yeah? The Sebastian Ajo's have fewer cups.
Starting point is 01:50:55 Oh, true. True. Oh, brr. Yeah. Wait, you like them? You picked them, though. But also, screw those guys. Am I right?
Starting point is 01:51:04 Bunch of losers. Am I going to get flamed for this? Is this the comment section going to be like, oh, yeah? Over this? I don't know. Peter Baugh had a really interesting tweet about the makeup of the NHL now. NHL players by nationality. 297 are Canadian.
Starting point is 01:51:22 200 are American. 66 Swedish. 47 Russian. 38 Finnish. 22 Czech. 9 Swiss. 8 Slovak. 7 German.
Starting point is 01:51:32 5 Latvian. 4 Norwegian. And then Belarusian 2. Norway 2. and then you've got uh austria australia france um and some of them i can't recognize some of the flags i don't recognize that one is one from the netherlands just a notice sent out from the nhl i can pull it off i believe that's netherlands netherlands and then slovenia that's i think that's kopitar kopitar yeah slovenia and slovakia have such a similar flag it's they should it's a
Starting point is 01:52:02 little knock it off yeah knock it off they know what they're doing yeah and also what's what was it was it with like as soon as france adopted the tri-color red white and blue let's do that everybody was like let's do that but let's turn it on its side oh i'm gonna do white on the top and then blue and red and then the netherlands are like we're gonna do red on the top and then white and then blue it's just like oh my god who is the probably nordic person who's like okay we're gonna all do different colored sort of crosses right yeah sort of crosses not real it's uh but sort of the red white and blue specifically i know with france and obviously the united states had to do with the tricolore which is french uh and and and if you look at the um uh if you look
Starting point is 01:52:47 at the haitian flag they ripped out the white part because it was a slave rebellion and they were successful and so they have red and blue and that's why they that's why their flag looks like that interesting it is so yeah you know what six six on the deserved interesting six on the deserved interesting thank you i appreciate that it's more than a pass uh i like that i like that jesse what are you looking up here no i was gonna just pull it because that was just a notice from the nhl on day one of the uh stanley cup but i don't bring up all the numbers they had a whole bunch of stats of the players by country and who's the nhl this season all that stuff okay but But, nah, it's all right.
Starting point is 01:53:23 So there's a few other things I want to mention just very quickly. The Crosby and Ovechkin are entering their 20th year this year. So that's something to keep an eye on. Ovechkin will probably break Gretzky's record this year if everything goes right. But I do think it's – 42 goals is not easy. I think he can do it. I agree, but it's not easy.
Starting point is 01:53:42 I wanted to say that 20 years of those guys, how blessed are we? Unbelievably blessed. The hype around them, if you're of a certain age, you can't understand how disgustingly down our throats that rivalry was just foisted upon us. And they've exceeded it in every possible metric. The playoff series that they played in the early 2010s were unbelievable. Slobberknockers. the dueling uh hat tricks and it just so happened crosby got the best of them every time until he didn't uh four cups between them uh crosby might end up on the mount rushmore of just players
Starting point is 01:54:25 ever um might end up in the top five of scores ever depending on how long he plays and ovechkin is going to potentially be the greatest goal scorer of all time uh puckpedia posted this and I thought you guys would find it interesting. He said, while roster moves to start the week seem like paperwork can have a real impact on some players, by being on an NHL roster for one day, Cameron Wright in Edmonton was paid $4,958 in the NHL instead of $417 in the AHL.
Starting point is 01:54:55 Let's go. Bryce Montgomery from Carolina on their roster, $4,453 instead of $286 in the AHL. Damn, $286. and that's odd day dude a lot of ahl players make like 70 grand yeah minimum in the nhl is 775 so whatever your daily ahl salary is for some of these guys you're getting more than 10 times that at the nhl level yeah it's pretty crazy yeah it's it is it's it's nuts i uh i have to say i'm blown away also something to keep an eye on uh-oh there's that arena going in in hamilton and tony
Starting point is 01:55:39 androdicus uh who is a great ahl reporter you should follow uh the oakview group which is doing that are in discussions with the ahl about a new team in hamilton with an announcement expected early next year as in three months from now ovg put 280 million dollars into first ontario center in hamilton that arena by the way was meant to attract an nhl team in the 80s and they just never got there ah it's i mean it's close enough to toronto where it's going to cause problems but like it's it's next door practically to buffalo i don't know i can see an ahl team making sense there ahl yes i don't know about nhl yeah no i i just thought that's interesting and you know what hamilton shows up for their teams right like the high cats if if you know southern ontario at all
Starting point is 01:56:26 uh just an insane group of fans and the team stinks this year and so but they're still showing Do American fans know that their chant is Oskiwiwi, Oskiwawa, Tigers? Come on, Ticats. Come on, Ticats. Eat them raw. And has been for 80 years? Yeah, it's weird. Can anyone outweird that chant for your local team?
Starting point is 01:56:56 No. Wrong. The Atlanta Braves. But, oh, other than that. that's um we might want to i don't know hamilton we got anything else i think we can do better than that i don't know uh yeah i think we can uh and now from time to time on the sdp we are in the eye of the hurricane that we say we are we are the one that everybody is focused on and the whole storm swirls around us because we have said something that offends almost the entire audience
Starting point is 01:57:31 and i i think for it's been a long time since jesse's been that guy oh goodness but last episode the queso conversation yeah the queso converso is what i would say oh uh created an absolute storm jesse yeah has your inbox been flooded by dms calling you an uncultured swine for not believing steve with the queso and if if anything yeah okay first of all i'm not afraid to admit that i heard the word queso for the first time on october 8th or whatever wow that was the first i'm just like okay that's me like i didn't know people called that that but steve was calling ballpark nachos and cheese queso i think there's a difference between what i now know queso is and the cheese that comes with nachos and cheese and that is my whole point now
Starting point is 01:58:25 is you sir are doing a disservice to actual queso by calling cheese which is just i think queso queso i think your goal posts are made of overcooked spaghetti uh justin yeah what are we doing here can we can we bring in the chips and queso and make Jesse Blake try queso. Steve's not even going to wait. Is this queso? This is queso from the grocery store.
Starting point is 01:59:00 From the grocery store. It's still queso. Is it just the can of Tostitos? Yeah, let's cheers. Cheers, gentlemen. There you go. Can I get a rating, a reaction to queso?
Starting point is 01:59:16 Fabulous. Once the show's done, and I might put that in the microwave. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Give me the most plastic nonsense. Look at this. I'm going to be honest.
Starting point is 01:59:28 I don't think you got me real queso. Why don't you think it's real queso? Where is this from? Loblaws. Mexico. It was Justin flew it here this morning. It's from Laws, from Galen Weston himself. That's right.
Starting point is 01:59:41 And it came in a little jar, and it says tostitos. And it says tostitos. That's not queso. that's cheese but it says what does it say on the thing cheese that's disrespectful here give it here that's just thanks justin where does it say queso on the top oh yes it does salsa salsa con okay as someone who has been to mexico me and had queso without even knowing it was called queso this is gatekeeping this is this is not queso so stitos they don't make queso they make cheese I don't give a damn
Starting point is 02:00:16 they make cheese I mean cheese thank you I feel loved do you feel loved from the do you feel like is this the
Starting point is 02:00:24 is this the Chris Tanev version of chips and dip I if Chris Tanev brought me Tostitos with queso yeah
Starting point is 02:00:36 I might get a divorce I like that I like that wow you might get a divorce sorry honey I love you but
Starting point is 02:00:41 alright so why don't we leave it there uh lots of information to cover unless you had something else to no adam doesn't care because it didn't make a show but um something very special happened at sdpn uh we're now a credentialed media outlet oh right i forgot to put that in a so what does that mean jesse uh i get the privilege of going to hockey games it's it's not which ones the toronto maple leafs uh it's it's not it doesn't go unnoticed to us what a privilege that is um to now have access to the team and it's not gonna it's not gonna change anything fundamentally but little things from now on will change like today
Starting point is 02:01:21 i know the leafs have a day off like i know the leafs aren't practicing they have a day off i know that because i got a notice from the team last night that today is going to be a day off from the team little stuff like that is gonna is gonna change the dynamic in the show and it's gonna be a lot of fun to have access to the team in that way we'll be at practices from a couple times a week hopefully we'll be at every game and yeah hopefully
Starting point is 02:01:44 as we get acclimatized to this new access we have you'll get more content you listener out there from us closer to the Toronto Maple Leafs and you'll get new stuff and really cool and it's gonna be cool because Jesse you're gonna be doing a lot of this a lot of
Starting point is 02:02:01 it and Steve and I will occasionally be able to be there but Steve's location plus kids and i'm kids plus i'm on four and lfr and i'm gonna try to be at all 41 games and if i can i'll i'll message you guys to fill in for me but yeah yeah no i know you're going for all 41 i'm gonna try my darndest there you go it's what i do jesse i'm gonna be there i mean we have uh options right as well like so it's it's games it's practices it's morning skates um which i'd like to try to go to you know there there could be some days where we go to a morning skate and then just come here and record the show and be like so i spoke to craig broob no i spoke
Starting point is 02:02:44 to chris tannev and he said i'm looking for a new best friend would you like to be it and i tell him yes uh yes i would we were talking to cj about it because you know you can't cj's such a wealth of knowledge that you're doing yourself a disservice by not talking to him about these things because he's been he has 20 years of experience with it and his first his first response was um did they did they approve you when they knew it wasn't going to be steve heading down there which is which is very funny yes i thought so too yeah i'm great i'm really happy it's you know what man it's been a running joke for years about the fact that we couldn't get access to anything and so the fact that it is happening is very cool and and jesse thank you for making the time
Starting point is 02:03:30 commitment because it's a lot um on top of running a network and editing shows and all the other shit that you have to do i think uh i'm excited man like i job i think it'll be very very cool and it gets us it's a step it may not matter much like you have to understand like uh we did start this and we we joke about all the time we started this in my mom's basement so yeah it's it's a big deal it's a big deal to us i hope that you share in the joy of that and i hope that it makes the coverage better yeah and you out there like adam mentioned it the running gag on this show for when we were in the other basement was that we can't get credentials for anything they won't let us in the door and then slowly we started getting access to things like they let us in
Starting point is 02:04:12 that all-star weekend yeah it was like hey i hear everybody's at all-star weekend we might as well let these guys in and then slowly we've had these conversations happen behind the scenes and now we're kind of letting the door a little bit and we're we're all working really hard here to to to because adam says this all the time but there's there's giants here in canada and we're kind of stuck in the middle as a small little company we're pebble every every day we're working a little hard to to get more ground here so it's it's a lot of fun for us yeah yeah we want to be better um and you will hopefully help us and hopefully jessica instead it said steve and chris tan have up on a friend date that's your job that's your entire job down there is just a
Starting point is 02:04:50 Just a couple dudes in their mid-30s eating cake. They might get revoked, like, day one. So, Chris, do you want to be friends with Steve? Get out of here. You get out. Get out. Never again. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:05:01 Why did you want credentials? To ask Chris Tannen to be my friend. Is that okay? Is that professional? Is that allowed? All right. Now we'll wrap it up. We will be back Monday.
Starting point is 02:05:13 It'll be a later show Monday because it is Thanksgiving Monday. Reminder, Steve is streaming on Saturday night. We haven't even talked about that this Saturday.
