So you can bring your cards, meet other collectors, complete your set.
Plus, the first 25 guests will get a special edition card.
Tim's new NHL hockey cards are available for a limited time at participating Tim's locations across Canada
while supplies last.
So mark your calendars.
Remember, it's October 29th and November 5th, which I think is really cool.
grab your cards and get ready to trade.
Guys, I want to get back out on the lake.
Well, you do live right on Lake Ontario.
Okay, fair point.
But I'm thinking I'd like to plan a trip to Colona in British Columbia.
Oh, yes, solid choice.
We found a great place on Airbnb near Lakeshore Road.
Going to check out the restaurants, the coffee shops, definitely got to visit the wineries.
It sounds like the whole trip's built around snacks and drinks.
As it should be.
But it got me thinking.
While we're out there, our place back home is just sitting empty.
So you're going to list your space on Airbnb while you're gone?
Why not?
They can come to my neighborhood and live like a local.
My favorite Mexican places close by, we've got some amazing parks and waterfront to explore.
There's even drop in wreck hockey just down the street.
Plus a little extra cash in your pocket for the next trip.
Exactly. It just makes sense.
Your home might be worth more than you think.

Welcome to
S. D.
The Steve Dangle
podcast with your host
Steve Dangle, Adam Wild, and
Jesse Blake.
Welcome to Green and Black Day,
where Jesse wears green,
Steve's wearing black, and I wear green and black.
Yeah.
Hell yeah.
And Aiden is also wearing green.
He's wearing green with black pants.
So wild.
Yeah.
Oh, wild.
Not stars.
Screw the green Dallas.
Yeah, Victor E. Green, come get these hands.
In Plano, Texas.
Yeah.
Stealing money from kids to build arenas.
Yeah.
Sorry, did I just put a dark spin on that.
That's, it's true, though.
Anyway, hey, Oshua Generals, Friday, November 13th, the Steve Dangle podcast return.
Array!
Look at that.
Oshua Generals, Peterborough, Pete's.
You know, we love to do a Pete's Jenny's game.
You know we love to do a Pete's Jenny's games.
They're the best.
Friday, like I said, November 13th, puck,
Drop versus the Pets.
And then, of course, you're going to get to see first overall pick,
Cain Clucier, and Vancouver's second rounder, Brooks Ruggowski.
Ooh.
You're on the case, Rikowski.
Kind of works, doesn't it?
No.
No, you don't think so?
No.
All right.
Tickets purchased through this, we'll be seated in the Steve Dangle section of the
Osher General's game.
How about that?
The Steve Dangle section.
Did you ever think?
And we'll also have access to a live taping of the episode of the SDP,
starting after the game, Bon Street
Event Center, that's 44 Bond Street.
This is the third year in a row.
We've done this.
And it's such a great place.
And it's an old punk rock venue too.
And it's also where the...
We play there.
Cuevo plays there.
Same thing.
Cuevo played like the day before the day after.
Was it Cuevo or was it offset?
Offset.
It was offset.
Oh, yeah.
Because he was late, right?
Yeah, yeah.
Or out of late.
Yeah, people are mad.
Long Migos member.
Don't make sure you...
Sorry, don't make sure.
Please make sure you don't make sure.
Who's playing before us this time?
Oh, that's good.
That's what I want to find out.
That's fine out.
While Jesse's doing that, I'll get to the rest of the information.
Doors for the STP will open at game end, 9 to 930, excuse me, at the Bond Street Events Center.
I'm still waking up.
Live show at 945.
SDP will do the meet and greet from 1030 to 11.
Buy your tickets now.
You can get the link for it.
Now, I don't know what it's going to look like once we go live with this episode.
But right now, there's a bit of a, we're waiting on the big ticket master to do ticket master.
stuff. So right now you'll have to register, I'm not kidding, with a guy named Mike.
So you'll click the link, you'll fill out the form. Mike will get your information and then
the tickets will become available to you to say you reserve your spot. But we think by this
afternoon, Ticketmaster might have responded. So you know, Ticket Master's not really in a hurry
to do anything for anybody. I think the best thing is just click the link and all the info will be there
on how to get your tickets. A lot of people have been asking like, hey, when's your next live
event because some people couldn't get down to St. Catherine's there, even though you should,
because that's our yearly event.
You know it's happening.
Get there.
But now you know, this is our next event.
Hit the link and you can get your tickets.
We are in the company of some very interesting bands.
Duane Gretzky.
Oh, okay.
Covered in.
Happening a week after us.
We're also going to be in the monks of submission fights to invitation to invitational.
Wait, you can bring this up, Aidan.
Is that a band?
No, no, that's got to be a underground wrestling.
They're having like UFC fights at the Bond Street event center.
Sounds kind of happening on the 14th of November.
All right.
Sounds kind of hot.
The Great Canadian Road Trip plays on the 18th.
What's that?
They look very country.
Ah.
Oh, damn.
I bet there will be some whiskey songs.
I bet.
Songs about boots.
those boots have been under some beds recently.
Yeah.
Oh, man, you know.
The Alberta trees.
Oh.
They're Canadian country, right?
They got to mention Alberta.
Hey, you know, you know, I do want to challenge this for certain Canadian country music
stars.
There are more provinces than Alberta out west.
There aren't.
There's Saskatchewan.
And Manitoba's like Central West.
I think we can manage it.
We could talk a little bit about Brandon sometimes, maybe about Flynn Flon.
I'd love to know about Brandon.
Yeah.
The Durham Region Battle of the Bands.
is happening on November 21st.
Don't you dare make fun of that?
Brother, I would have been in that high school.
Are you kidding?
Absolutely.
I would have died to be there.
What was your band called?
Leather pants on?
The reblers.
The rebel.
I would have been on.
And I would have paid money.
I have paid money to watch Adam perform music.
Would you guys have won?
Do you think you would have won this one?
I don't, you guys are pretty good.
We never won anything.
We just won the amount of tickets sold.
We always sold the most amount of tickets at those dumps.
Anybody old enough to be me?
Those dumb.
I remember Supernova, which was this basically MLM for bands in high school.
Oh, no.
And they don't exist anymore.
But their big claim to fame was they found, quote unquote, some 41.
And basically what you would do is the more tickets you could sell, the better time slot you got.
Right.
And so we were all in there were like 200 tickets sold.
And then, you know, and then we do our half an hour.
And then they'd be like, great, get away from us now.
They're just so completely not helpful.
But anyway, yeah, I would absolutely, Durham region, by up.
We would have been like, we're going on tour to Durham.
to Durham region from Scarborough.
Will you reunite the Reblers to play in this?
I don't, you know what?
The problem with reuniting the Rebler was...
Did you afford Al?
Well, Al, yeah, Al's expensive.
Al, one of our former members,
it was like the guitar is for like Amanda Marshall
and some other people, yeah, and then...
He was in Camp Rock too.
Yeah, he was in Camp Rock too.
Yeah, one of the bands in Camp Rock too.
And then the other guys, like one of our drummers
is like he, one of our drummers,
because Al was the other one.
Danny's just had a kid.
and so and so like it's difficult.
One night only.
Yeah.
Like ECW,
you bring it back one night only.
Yeah.
The Rebellers.
I like that.
Germ region battle of the man.
And I'll roll out with a bunch of teenagers.
With a bunch of high school.
I'll be in the stands with a bamboo stick.
Yeah.
And Steve is starting the mosh pit.
That might sell better than our live show.
Could Steve?
Steve and the moshput.
Hold up in a lot of mothpit.
No.
No.
I mean,
you look like a guy,
a guy who could go to a moshpit.
because older guys in Mosh pits now are just jacked.
Yeah.
And they have tats and wear black t-shirt.
I would go into one collision without my core braced and that would be it.
Can you roll up your sleeves to show us the mosh pit attire?
No.
No, show off the tattoos.
Oh, that's how they'll be in the mosh pit.
There you go.
There we go.
I need to get better like tank tops or something.
Because the other.
day, the other day, you own a tank top? And by the other day, I mean, no, I just don't wear
I'm on the show because people always make fun of me. But by the other day, I mean, yesterday,
my wife was looking at my arm and she goes, what do you have again? I was like, what do you
mean? What do I have again? Like, she was observing the tattoo. Like, she was looking at it for the
first time. I was like, I don't show this off enough. Do you remember like a couple weeks ago when
you said you wanted to be one of those deep V-neck tank guys? Like the offensively.
deep, the spaghetti
strap tank top one? I miss that era.
Yeah. That was like two weeks ago
on a VIP. I think so. You're like
I want to be one of those guys.
It's like a, I don't know when
we invented the thong tank top
for dudes. Barely covering your nips.
The rocks got a whole
closet full of them. Oh yeah. Hey, I want
like, okay, you know how wrestlers
wear like a singlet? I want that
but cotton and loose.
And I'm going to wear it to the gym. You're going to be
that guy. And make everyone
not like it.
They also...
They also cut down the sides, too.
You notice that?
So like...
You gotta show off the bleaks.
But they cut down the, you know...
Yeah, so it's barely even a shirt.
Yeah, you're like, this is...
What's holding this together?
It's like, it's like an apron for a chef.
Yeah, yeah.
Just tape your nipples and walk in without a shirt.
I'm wearing this shirt against my will.
So I will show as much skin as possible.
They got to...
They make me wear a shirt to get into the gym.
It's the only reason I have it on.
Because I got to go to the gym,
but I got to wear a shirt.
Here's barely a shirt.
Straight up,
those guys always stink too.
They always smell.
They're awful smelling people.
I don't know how they manage it,
but they are all,
it's like,
listen,
I know you found your creatine this morning.
I know you found your toothbrush
and that sort of thing.
Can you find a shower at some point this week?
That'd be great.
I ordered creatine for the first time.
I have creatine.
I take it every day.
It's good.
I want to see what all the fuss is about.
Me too.
I have found that I don't get the three o'clock crash
the way you do.
I'll just see what all the fuss is about.
There's nothing wrong with creatine.
So,
No, I had to give you the warning in case I get like so jacked.
That's what you're trying to do.
Steve's just in every frame in this podcast.
You just see part of his shoulder.
No, Steve's saying it jokingly, but I know in the back of his mind, he's like,
I hope I get really jacked.
I just want to go.
Yeah.
No.
No.
No, I want to have a body like a bag of milk, Jesse.
Hell no.
I know you got a trainer.
I didn't steal your foam from our garage and put it in my garage just so I could have a body like
a bag of milk.
All right?
I want to be swole.
I'm getting you all those tanks for Christmas.
Oh,
yeah.
We're getting a leaf.
Oh,
let's get him a singlet.
I'd wear it on the show.
Sure.
Okay.
If I get you a leaf singlet.
And you've got to wear the helmet too.
We got to wear the foam helmet.
You come here like Kurt angle.
Yeah.
Oh,
and a mouth card.
I need a mouth card.
Gold medals.
You got to wear,
you got to wear the metals from Easter seals.
I don't,
we don't get medals.
We don't get medals.
No, we don't get one of those.
Where were your kids medals then?
My,
my kids,
I could like have Leo's baseball medals.
Otherwise I'm going to have to go rummaging for my like dragon boat medals for my school.
Get Leo's.
Will you be Kurt Engel for Halloween?
No.
Damn it.
No, who am I being for Halloween?
I don't remember.
I don't have it yet.
All this is just avoid talking about the Leafs.
No, we're not talking about the Leafs.
We're actually going to start because we've got the BetMGM big story coming up and this actually leads into that.
Connor Hallibuck on the CJ show.
CJ came in this.
Connor Hallibuck was on the CJ show?
No, no, no.
They had a good chat about it this morning because obviously it was reported over the weekend.
I think SportsNand had it first where it was.
Elliot Friedman.
Yeah, that he, sorry, I just meant the blog that I clicked on to read the story when Elliot tweeted it out.
That was like SportsSeportenet?
Yes.
So Elliott said essentially that Carter Hallibuck went to them before game one and said,
okay, I'm ready to come back now.
And they're like, the hell you are.
And so they suspended him for three weeks.
And now I guess the PA, the player and the team had to agree to this suspension, which has cost him
roughly a million dollars once it's all said and done.
Definitely a million dollars Canadian.
And now he will either, according to CJ, get traded or sit at home, but not likely to be in
Winnipeg again.
I actually, I didn't think it was possible to have less respect for him.
Yep.
And he, like, it's one thing, the one thing was like, okay, so he's sitting out and he's not
playing and like one thing we talked about is like well like you know he's not happy and his family
and you know he's sticking to his convictions he's sticking to his guns and then you find out he didn't
even do that he held out and then was like actually now that money's on the line I would like to
have my cake and eat it to by missing training camp and coming back to just play terrible hockey I
assume after you miss training camp coming off a shit season
and so he didn't even stick to his conviction.
Yeah, that's the really newsy part,
is that as soon as Hellebucks.com went from $0 to $1.
Connor Hellebuck went groveling back to the Winnipeg Jets
and was like, okay, I want to play for you now.
Teams had already played some of the multiple NHL games
by the time he went back to the Jets and was like,
that's actually true.
Because money was happening.
Like he was.
starting to lose the paycheck and he tried to come back. And good for the Jets for just saying, no,
we're going to do what is afforded to us under the CBA and that suspend you for a reasonable
amount of time, which is so NHL to never outline something in point blank like what it can be.
It's just everything has to be vague so that Gary can get away with whatever he wants.
But they did what they have the right to do. And this whole time, I thought his absence
was mutual to the both of them.
I thought they were both in agreement of his absence,
but it was actually only one-sided.
Actually.
They were keeping him away.
I think I'd like to come back.
Like, come on.
And I just, I haven't.
I don't, no, no, no, I want to pause you guys for just a second.
Because I'm, I'm quite surprised that you both have come out firing like this,
and this is good.
Because everybody's kept, everybody's treated this Connor Hellibuck situation with kid gloves.
found in the media. I think it's out of respect for Connor Hullabuck and all the incredible things
he's done, one of gold medal, one of Hart and Vesnan the same year, three-time Vesna winner,
right? Yeah, my fraud watch was definitely a kid gloves. Oh, that's true. I've never
treated Connor Lelbuck with any. You're right. You're, you know what? You're not wrong. But this feels
a little bit more personal, I think, than play on the ice. And eventually we're going to find out
why he ultimately wanted out. And I'm sure it had something to do with what happened in the
Olympics last year. But here's my question for you guys. What part of that do you not respect? Like,
can you articulate for that for me in terms of, I know you sort of already did, but I really want you to
drill down on, you said, I thought I would have more respect or I couldn't think I would have
less respect, however you framed it. Right. Where is that, where do you not respect it? Give it,
give me the real sentence on that. Some of the feedback that we got when we had a conversation about
Hallibuck a few weeks ago. I don't remember exactly when it was, probably around the beginning of
the season, was, you know what? He's losing money, but some things are bigger than money. And then you
find out, no, it actually isn't. And he was, he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I'm going to miss
training camp while I pout and hold my breath for this trade. And the second money was on the line,
he actually abandoned his convictions and wanted to come back. And it just doesn't work that
way. And like, listen, you only get one life, you only get one career. I understand all of that.
You maybe shouldn't have signed a seven-year deal then. That's, and I, and I, and I, it's not the
trade request. It's the not showing up. I don't care that he requested a trade. I, at the beginning
of it. Do you even care that he, he released that statement late summer? Because I don't. I, I, I did.
Did you? I don't care that as much. I don't care. But. But. But. You can't care that. I don't care. But. But. I. I don't
care because I like the way he went about it.
He requested a trade supposedly months ahead of time.
Yep.
And gave the Jets a big list.
Well, in comparison to Dylan Larkin.
But he gave them, it was like a 20 team.
Dylan Larkin's list is slowly getting bigger.
By the way, it didn't work out for him.
Does it include the Red Wings?
It should because he's signed for five years.
That's your job.
Yeah.
Show up to work.
Yep.
Yeah.
Um, Hellebuck went about it quietly.
Mm-hmm.
And he waited and he was a good soldier and he gave the Jets some flexibility.
And then he makes that statement.
And I just remember being like, this is not going to help you achieve your goal.
This, you're, you're making Kevin Shevoldeoff and the Jets life harder by releasing this statement.
I perfectly understand his frustration with, listen, I gave you months to do this.
I gave you lots of teams and you still haven't done it.
Yep.
But the reason they hadn't done it isn't because they weren't trying.
They were trying and the packages weren't good.
And it is Kevin Shevoldeoff and the Jets right to refuse trades that stink.
And then there was this idea floated that there was a gentleman's agreement.
What was the gentleman's agreement?
Verbatim.
Was it, hey, listen.
Connor, you've been a great soldier for us.
So even if I get a package that sucks,
if I get a package that friggin stinks,
if someone offers me like a fourth and a conditional sixth,
I'm going to take it because I love you.
And then they kissed him on the forehead.
What fantasy reality are you living in where that is a thing?
that is a conversation that grown adults have.
You're assigned to a five-year contract show up to work.
Or be a man of conviction
and some things are bigger than money
and I shan't be playing for you this season.
And I would love to imagine that yellowstone depiction of him
except he waltzed up to Kevin Sheffleday off.
It's probably over the phone.
And he said,
I would.
did it. He didn't like to return to work, please. Yep. Hat in hand. And that's ridiculous.
Jesse, anything to add to that? Because I think you're on the same page as Steve here.
Yeah, no, I agree with Steve. Like, when an employee goes on strike, like, we're about
see majorly baseball players go on strike for the greater good of the sport. Or will they be locked out.
Alan will be all over us about. Locked out strike. We're about to see majorly baseball players,
I'll put it this way. Sacrifice paychecks for the greater good of the sport. When like the airline pilots go on strike for
what they deem is unfair working conditions and they sacrifice their paychecks for that.
They're doing it and I respect that so much because they're like, I don't care what I'm losing
in this moment. In the end, I'm fighting for what I want and what I think I deserve.
If Connor Hellebuck this whole time was sacrificing his paycheck because he's like, I really
can't go back to this market. It's truly uncomfortable for me and my family. I won't do it at all.
There's so much respect there to be given to him for that decision.
Of course.
But none of that is sure.
I don't want to.
I've given all my career to Winnipeg and I'd like a change of scenery.
Which is what he does, which is what he wants.
But he's also not willing to sit out to get that, you know?
And the whole time, like, that was his excuse.
Like, I can't play there or whatever.
And he was willing to go back and play.
And that's what we found out.
I'm not trying to call him a bad guy.
He looks foolish.
Yes.
He looks foolish.
It was just misplayed.
Well, by releasing.
that statement, you are actually blocking your blessings. You are getting in the way of your
own goals. Then you go, I'm not coming to camp. And then you go, actually, I'd like to come back.
Sorry, you look like an idiot. Dylan Larkin, I can't believe this is where we are based on how this
began a few months ago. He looks great. Well, because that's how you get traded. Sorry?
That's how you get traded. Yes. And show up. He look great. And being in the market is,
so hostile for him because he volunteered to come back.
And that's why.
He said on the second, I want to go back so we know that it's not impossible for you to play
for this team.
So you should have been doing that the whole time so that you can make it easier for you
to be traded.
If you just showed up on day one of training camp, it would have been a lot easier for you
to have what you've desired this whole time.
And people said it was crazy to throw him out there in front of Red Wings fans.
I actually really respected what he did.
Yes.
He showed up.
Took his lungs.
He took his frigging lumps.
Like, I know Julian hated it.
I know Alan hated it.
I know several other people on staff hated it.
But to me, that is the only way that you can do this.
And I think not just league-wide, what other fans just, fan bases just respect that because we, I do.
But I think Red Wings fans are like, okay.
Like, I'm still pissed, but I can respect that.
You at least allowed me to voice how I felt about the decision that you made.
And they did.
And they got to.
And he has responded and scored some goals and had some good.
games and Detroit are tied with Toronto for bottom of the standings, but we expected that's about
where they should be there.
Like it's, you know, especially without Evanston.
I think that's bad news for one of those teams and fine for the other.
Yeah.
And I'll let you figure out which one.
So I think, I think all that is to say like there is a with, with Connor Hallibuck,
I'm and I think the thing that struck me about the CJ thing is, you know, it seems like Elliot's really on this, this, well,
I don't know if you guys, because you were at the game and you were streaming.
But, you know, Elliot was really on this.
Well, that New York Rangers, New York Rangers three-way trade, three-way trade.
It feels like...
CJ also brought up a three-way trade today.
So what did he say?
Well, it was like he wasn't, he didn't detail all the teams.
So it seems like there's something for me.
He mentioned it as a possibility.
It's, this is more than nothing.
Put it that way.
Right.
So there is like a deadline because they have to start paying him after the 23rd.
That's when the suspension ends.
Next Friday.
Yeah.
This Friday.
Yeah, sorry, yeah, this Friday.
The next Friday.
The next Friday that is coming up.
I think it would be awesome if they started him on next Sunday in the Heritage Classic against Montreal outdoors.
So the one thing CJ said that I didn't quite understand is what if they try to get him some kind of conditioning stint?
The impression I was left with, because their minor league team is the Manitoba Moose.
Which is, do they play in the same?
They might even play in the same building.
They play in the same province, which is in the same country, which he doesn't want to play in.
Would they have to, can you send someone on a conditioning stint on loan to another H.L team that is not yours?
I think they would find a way?
I think they would, I mean, how interesting would that be?
I would like to pay $20 to see Connor Halebuck play, please.
Actually, that might be too much.
It sounded like if there was a trade to be had,
those are the types of things they would start discussing.
Yeah.
I don't think you can begin to discuss a trade
without knowing if this guy can, if he's any good.
He's 33 coming off a bad season.
I know what he was two years ago.
The world moves faster than it ever has.
And goalie's missing training camp usually doesn't go.
Although he could come in and kick ass.
We don't know.
He could.
It sure didn't work out for Jeremy Swamen.
Right?
A couple years ago.
Yeah, 100% younger goalie too.
But let's bring it to the BetMGM big story because I have a big question for you about this in that.
BetMGM is an official sports betting partner of the National Hockey League ready for puck drop.
And now hockey fans in Ontario can get the in on the action for opening face off.
Goal in the first 10.
And obviously you've got pregame live bets.
You've got same game parlayers.
you've got 500
betting markets to choose from,
betmgm.com for terms and conditions,
19 plus to wager Ontario only.
Now, I have to question.
I have the question you.
Question you all.
Okay.
Screamers is back at Assembly Park in Vaughn
from October 9th to 31st,
located at 80 interchangeway in Vaughan this year.
Features seven haunted attractions,
120 plus live actors
who are not going to feel like actors
are going to feel like real goo.
And rides and entertainment too
now new this year at Disassembly.
Oh my goodness, they're going to take my limbs.
An outdoor scare zone where the scares continue between the haunted houses and you do not
have to be 19 plus to enter screamers.
There is 19 plus licensed vampire lounges, you know.
Are they going to serve blood?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I have to go find out, but be 19 plus for that.
Screamers is probably not recommended for children under 10, so, you know, just play it by ear.
Also not recommended for Jesse Blake's who have scary screams in and of themselves.
I'm not sure what would be scarier.
Or Jesse scream at screamers.
Oh.
Your scream is way scarier than that.
No.
Screamers is open from 7 to 11, Sundays and weekdays, and 7 to midnight for a little late night scare.
Fridays and Saturdays.
Tickets available at screamers.com.
Costumes encouraged, but no masks or weapons, please, obviously.
Yeah.
Connor Hellabuck.
If it was available.
Okay.
Don't think it is yet.
Maybe I'll talk to the BEDMGM folks.
The Adam Wild Sportsbook.
Okay.
No, it's the BEDMGM.
sports book, but the Adam Wilde section.
Okay. Which everybody goes to that's for your best pets.
Does Connor Hallibuck play a game
in the
NHL on or before November 30th?
Remember suspension ends on the 23rd?
I'm giving you a five-week window.
Five-week window. He'd have to get traded.
He'd have to get into shape, and they'd have to feel comfortable playing him.
Okay, here's what I'm going with.
No, he does not play a game for the game for the game.
the Winnipeg Jets this season.
That was not the question.
I know.
Okay, I've just thrown that out there for everybody that might have missed it.
He's answering his own questions he made up.
Yes.
What you were doing?
I shouldn't know.
What's not asked?
Here's my answer to it.
Yeah, let's go.
My answer is he doesn't play by November 30th.
You don't think he plays by November 30th?
Wow, that's crazy, Jesse.
Any other questions you'd like to answer?
I had additional thoughts, but I also say no.
Okay, what were your additional thoughts?
No.
No, we want to hear them.
He has given you. No, he does not play for the Winnipeg Jets this season. Yes, he does play
NHL games this season. No, he does not play an NHL game for anybody before November 30th.
Okay, wow. So you guys think this will drag out. Is it? What will hold it up? Is it the conditioning
The timeline doesn't, that's too soon for me. Yeah, well, he can't even come back yet.
So let's tack on a few days that eats away at it. We're talking about potential conditioning stint.
So that eats away at how many two weeks? Yeah.
probably going to practice before he plays games.
So there's maybe another week.
Exactly.
Based on how Kevin shovel day off moves,
it's going to be a slow moving process.
That's just how it's going to be.
So the trade's not,
I don't think it's going to happen this week.
Maybe it's in a couple weeks.
But yeah,
after that,
then there's ramp up with the new team.
And that's going to take like three weeks.
So by the end of there,
we're talking about early December.
Okay.
Well,
that's very,
very interesting.
I thought at least one of you might take a stab at it.
But I don't,
I don't think it's going to happen.
because I don't, unless this trade just materializes on Friday afternoon or Saturday or
whenever the heck the suspension ends, I don't understand how this is going to happen.
Who's the dance partner?
Well, they keep throwing the New York Rangers in there as not that he will be a ranger,
but that he'll be the past.
Yeah, who's the third team?
To me, it's like, I don't know, St. Louis.
Like, is it Jordan Bittington?
Like, I, I, who else is on an expiring deal?
That makes some sense.
Would, would Nashville want to.
Halibuck replacing Bittington is very funny.
Oh, you think, hellibuck.
Why? They've Joel Holfer.
Well, then they're like, yeah, why would they read?
I mean, who needs it? I mean, Nashville's got Soros.
Like, I'm just trying to think of.
Yeah, that doesn't make sense.
Would Detroit be a potential? I mean, he's a Michiganer, right?
And, you know, you've got John Giffon.
Devils.
The devils, but like, are the Rangers going to help the devils get a,
no, get Connor Helleb?
Unless they're getting a fortune back.
That's the thing that's, because I'm looking west.
I think he's going, I think he's staying west.
The devils make sense.
San Jose makes sense in some way.
Escarov, maybe.
I think L.A. is a little too bad to make sense.
Unless they got the weird.
No, they should get older.
It's GM there.
Just get older.
Maybe he does something stupid.
I don't think the criteria.
Is old.
I think San Jose and New Jersey makes sense.
Okay.
All right.
Well, betmgm.com.

Now, we're not going to look too far back with the Leafs
because Steve did, covered it quite well in the LFR.
And we also have back-to-back games to start, like, tonight.
I'm going to be streaming the,
is it McKenna Stenberg night or McKenna Cellebrini
or Matthew Cellebrini?
Yeah.
It's all of them, right?
Matthew Brini, McKenberg.
Matt Briniberg.
Yeah.
The Matt McBrinyberg.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, that, for me, it's Jacob Trubonite.
Oh, true.
That's so you get to see the true elbows.
No, it's going to somebody's head.
It's Darnell Nurse guaranteed goal night.
Yeah.
Yeah, I feel like he performs well in Toronto.
Yeah, he does.
I should just said Trubos.
Truebo.
You know, you could be his brand.
manager when he decides to call it quits and wants to start a clothing brand.
Trubos.
Or the Luca Kagnani night.
Oh my God.
I'm so mad at Drew.
Hey, wait.
Sorry, I got obsessed with your, your fashion brand.
Oh, what?
All Jacob Truba branded shirts have to have a patch on the elbow.
Ah, yeah.
You got to have a patch.
Or just a line of bow ties.
A line of bow ties.
Trubos.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
I think Jacob Trubos, and it's a lot of bowtie.
You know, that's giving like, hello, how well, princess.
Like, one of those people.
So here's the thing.
I don't think he's going to sell enough bow ties to make it lucrative unless they're for dogs.
Oh, we found it.
We found it.
Market inefficiency, there it is.
Or is it Ken Rosenthal is just going to buy them all?
Yeah.
See the baseball insiders are in the bow ties?
It's who has more bow ties, Ken Rosenthal, or all the dogs.
Yeah.
And then he kicks a guy who's running cable for it.
The camera guy.
Get the hell out of the way.
He does the Degeneration X on top of him.
He's 5'7.
Just threatening a camera guy.
We roasted him on VIP when that happened.
Oh, yeah.
Like deservedly.
Yeah.
It was crazy.
He deserved it.
And he skated on it.
You know what?
Everybody's a loud one.
If he does that again, though, now I'm like,
hmm, there's a pattern.
Depends on what you're one in.
Yeah, yeah, you're right.
Like that.
Diva moment.
Diva moment.
I club at him with this microphone.
Listen.
Everybody gets wrong.
Everyone has flaws.
Actually, that's even better.
It's cleaner.
Because there's a lot to deduce from the angry stare that he gave that guy in MLB playoffs.
Anyway, by the way, I was trying to get to the fact that I am doing the leaf streams.
Oh, yes.
Right.
So tonight, 7.30, San Jose, Toronto.
Tomorrow, it's going to be the Matthew Nye's definitely bet on him game.
because he has not scored a point since leaving, or sorry, I guess his first game.
Second game.
Second game is in there.
And so he's on a pointless streak.
The Leafs are allowing a lot of goals.
It's a perfect.
So I got sent to tweet this morning.
There was Nye's game log.
And it shows like all the zeros and a bunch of minuses.
And they go, when are you ready to have the Matthew Nye's conversation?
And I looked at the schedule.
I'm like, not yet.
Not yet.
Not yet. No, not yet.
No, you're smarter than that.
Come on.
If you tried that on this show, we'd have been like, are you out of your mind?
If he has an unproductive night Tuesday, like where he doesn't even get shots or hits, sure.
He's going to.
He's going to.
He's going to go.
He's very much going to.
And here's what I want to say.
First off, Artur Acti Amoff was called up today, as was Vinny Latari.
And we'll talk about Vinny Lateri in a second.
But Luke Fox reporting that Arderak Diomov will be actually backing up Bobrovsky tonight, giving Stolars the night off.
And he will back up, excuse me, Stollers, including.
Columbus on Tuesday so Bobrovsky can just avoid the flight and get a just a rest,
which I think is nice.
I assume,
they're going to fly in,
fly out,
I think, right?
Yeah,
I assume that's a sports science thing.
Fine.
But people were like,
well,
who's what I've got?
It's like,
well, hold on a sec.
They actually have cap space and it's not accruing against anything because
it's LTIR cap space.
So you might as well just call the kid up and,
hey,
he gets to back up his hero,
Bobrovsky?
Come on.
It's pretty cool.
And he gets an NHL pay bump.
if I'm not mistaken.
And I don't know if Letary does either,
but, like, Lattery gets back onto an NHL roster.
Like, who knows if he actually plays?
I personally think he should play,
and you might be surprised by who I think should come out of the lineup.
But Vinnie Letary has been,
I like the idea of awarding your HL soldiers.
Yeah.
And they-Bow grew and Jacob Quillen last year.
Bow grew, yeah.
Like, the Leaves have a number of guys,
worthy of awarding on account of
they won the Bloody Calder Cup.
Like, I don't know,
you'd be amazed by the mundane crap
that goes on in my head.
I'm looking at the HL stats and going,
what does Logan Shaw got to do to get a contract?
Because he's on an ACHL's deal.
Alex Steve's had a run.
It's not sustained,
but a run with the Bruins last year too.
Sure.
He never really got a fair shake in Toronto.
No, but like now there's added incentive
like these guys won with us.
us.
Yeah.
Right.
And La Terry was incredible on their playoff run.
The line rushes had Letary on the third line with Sissons and McKenna.
I have a feeling Lateri's not going to end up playing and it's going to be Gru.
Gru was skating in place of William Nealander who's sick.
Yeah.
Why do you think that, though?
I think that they need more offense back there.
So I personally, I sort of looked at Gru as a placeholder and I'm like, okay, I love Bo Gru.
Here's what I would do.
He's sitting.
McEwen in the fourth line actually just had a very good game.
Yeah, they were great.
Award them, keep them in.
Letary, I have no delusions about what he is.
He is a great HL goal scorer.
Probably not much more than that.
I am fascinated to see him with the playmaking ability of Gavin McKenna.
Vinny LaTherry's career high in goals came with the Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks,
but the, he did it in less games with the ducks, 31 games, five goals in 21, 22.
And he also had five with the Minnesota Wild in 23, 24.
You should play PP2.
I'm serious.
He might have to.
I'm serious.
No, like that guy, he vaporizes pox.
Jesse, based on what you've seen, because Mark Masters has got the lines posted here,
it's Gru, Matthews, Roslific, but obviously Gruz is going to, Groo's in for Neander,
who's sick, I guess.
Callan Paul Marchenko, which is what we saw on Saturday.
McKenna Cizons-Littary, Duhame, Blugger, McEwen.
Do you think that's what happens?
Do you think Gru's the guy who's sitting?
and then Nealander gets plugged in tonight.
Yeah, I personally think that they called up Latteri to give him a look,
and I think that's the lineup that we get tonight.
I think Nielander goes in there for Gru,
and then we get to see what Lattery has at the NHL level.
On the Marley's Calder Cup run,
so last year, regular season, 14 goals, 42 points, 55 games.
Yeah, that's pretty good.
On their Calder Cup run, in 23 games,
he had 11 goals, 15 assists, 26 points.
And 36 penalty minutes.
Yeah, I think it's...
The HL's great.
I think this is the exact moment.
you should be doing these kinds of things.
Like Tavares is out and you have so many other injuries like down in the lineup like Wood and Joshua that like, hey,
La Terry is a guy who's I think earned this opportunity and with so many guys down and on a back to back.
I think it's really important because tomorrow I don't think he makes the lineup.
I think you switch it out depending on how well it goes.
Maybe you play them both nights.
But this is a chance to just, hey, let's see what this guy's got.
Three different Marley's are absolutely shooting the lights.
Well, actually it's more than three, but I'll stick with three.
Logan Shaw, who's not in an
NHL deal, unfortunately, has 11 points
in six games.
Brendan Brisson in six games has
seven goals, 10 points.
And Vinnie Letary has three goals,
six assists for nine points.
And what were those numbers last year?
Like a regular season, Marley's numbers for Letary?
For Lettary, let me bring it up.
He had 14 goals, 28 assists,
42 points in 55 games, which is
good, but not like mind-blowers.
No, his playoffs was incredible.
Over his career, he's been a very, very, very good HL player.
He's played 155 NHL games.
I hope he gets to the 200 because that's where they get a pension.
Yeah.
I hope he gets to the time.
And for anybody listening who's like not that familiar with Letary, this isn't a prospect we're talking about.
He's 31.
This is a 31 year old man.
He's not 22.
So this is just like a late stage career thing.
Let's see what he's got.
So here's my question, you guys.
What do you expect out of like, again, this is unfair,
but like what do you expect out of that line assuming it stays together?
What do you think the directive is?
The third line?
Yeah, from Jim Hiller, what's called him John?
Jim Hiller might be John on, you know, Letary Sizzins McKenna.
What are you telling him?
I don't expect it to stay together.
To be honest, because that's how Jim Hiller operates.
Letary's like what's his, okay, then what's his role tonight?
He's got good vision and a great shot.
Get in position to put a great shot.
shot on net and get a pass from Gavin.
Colton Sissons go to the friggin' net.
Make sure you mind your P's and Q's on defense.
Yeah, the lineup makes sense in like a video game sense
where you're matching in NHL.
Hey, the guy with the playmaking little icon,
the guy with the scoring icon,
and then the guy with the grinding icon.
That's a great video game line.
I feel like that's what, and it's Adam.
It's James Andrew Hiller.
Oh, is it James?
James Andrew, yeah.
James, that's a very regal name.
James is
James is doing the video game thing
it makes sense on paper
hey you match the goal scoring guy
with the playmaking guy
it's on Wikipedia
oh okay
fair enough
I was about to be like
it's his job
it's also my job
to know the show
it might be my job one day
at some point but
maybe I should Google things too
I should try this new thing out
you know you got a computer in front of you
you're like how did you know that
and I'm sitting here like
Ken Rosenthal
Ken Rosenthal kicking people
Jesse Blake, you're looking
snassy.
Oh, these are my
Warby Parker sunglasses.
Wow.
Okay, you actually cut
before we started recording
this, producer Hayden's like,
okay, Top Gun.
Yeah, so?
Kind of look like a big deal there.
You look good.
Pop my collar.
Hell yeah.
Whoa.
Because he's got to be the total.
I love these sunglasses.
So what do you love about?
I like the way they look more than they.
They look great on you.
Isn't that the whole point?
Well, they've got the nose.
I went into the one at the Eaton Center,
the Warby Parker and I tried on a bunch
and I was like these ones look awesome
and I like them.
I'm not wearing sunglasses
trying to look like a dork.
I want to look as cool as possible
and you do.
No, I don't like the way my sunglasses look.
They have flexible designs.
They give you an expanded feel of vision.
They've got no slip nose pad
so when you're sweating
which is a constant issue for me
they don't go sliding down your nose.
They're also lightweight nylon
so you know when you wear sunglasses
and they start to get heavy
and actually like even behind your ears
they can kind of be painful.
I guess you've never experienced being cool
for a long period of time, Steve.
I have that has happened to me.
They also block 100% of UVA and UVB raise,
something that's really important with sunglasses,
scratch resistance, advanced polarization.
It's amazing, and we want you to try it out.
There's 300 retail stores across the U.S. and Canada.
Actually, one near me where I also went in and tried some on, Jesse.
I wear that is made for you.
Right now, you buy one pair of glasses,
and you're going to get 20% off any additional pairs
at Warbyparker.com slash SDK.
That's 20% off additional pairs when you purchase one pair at W-A-R-B-Y,
Parker.com slash SDP.

I'm not sure what would be scarier.
Screamers or Jesse scream at screamers.
Oh.
Your scream is way scarier than that.
No.

like, listen, ultimately this show, we're fans, right? We're fans that have been doing this for
almost 15 years as a threesome. But, uh, and what a hot threesome it's been. Great word. But I, I,
you know, we started, we've started to understand the league a little bit better than we did
in my mom's basement when we started it. We have more connections with the NHL directly than we did.
So there's some things, some information that filters through to us.
But at the end of the day, this is a show for the fans by three fans.
Yes.
And what I'm seeing from the fans and Leif's Nation, first off, Stollers was traded this morning because Akiamov is up.
So that, we can cross that one off the list, right?
Number two, Easton Cowan has already been traded and it's a bad idea.
When are we going to learn?
When are we going to learn?
Well, hold on a sec.
What do you mean?
Which we?
Which we are we talking about here?
Because I don't think the Leafs are trading Easton Cowan.
And I don't know where that's come from.
Anyone who's never been a rumor.
There's no rumor for that.
The last Easton-Legon-Legitimate Easton-Roman rumor there was,
was the Brayden Chen trade two years ago.
That ultimately did not happen.
We overrate him because he's ours.
That does not mean we should trade him.
I understand that.
So what I'm saying is, so the report, which was very vague,
is that the Leafs only want like a really good defenseman,
which is hilarious because like what GM is out there like,
I want a defenseman who's like, no.
So the Leafs are only going to go out there and get a premium guy.
That's not what Easton Cowan gets you.
He's more valuable to the Toronto Maple Leafs playing for them
than being traded for a piece.
like this just I feel like the Leafs have the assets to pull off the Brandon Carlo trade again.
I don't think they don't have the assets for Simon Edvinson.
No.
They don't have the assets for Alexander Nekishin.
No.
They don't name a good defenseman who's available and there aren't many.
I don't think they have the assets for it.
I agree.
And I think like I keep telling telling you guys, I think this is a next summer thing.
I think this is you can.
It's going to be a painful year, I think.
On defense, it is.
They're going to have to figure out the system.
Now, we have said, and I've said, and you've said, and Jesse said,
listen, they turned over a good chunk of this roster, not the defense, unfortunately.
And it's going to take a while for some of it to come together.
What's clear is the strategy is hope for good goaltending, which is the third thing I'm seeing in the fandom,
and I want to put a pin on that for a second.
Outscore your problems.
Hope the defense sort of improves.
Hope you get good goaltending.
Those are the three things.
And so some of the defensive problems are related to the forwards as well.
Okay.
Not helping up the parents.
Can we just cut the bullshit, though?
Okay.
Oh, it's not good enough.
Even if the Leafs forwards were good at defense, most of them.
And it's a couple of forge.
Like, oh, McKenna's not great through the neutral zone.
Neelander's going to do Neelander stuff.
Okay.
They're not good in their own.
You have Sizzins.
You have Bluger.
You've got Matthews.
You've got Tavaris when he's healthy.
And when you don't, Nick Paul is there.
Like, there are defensively responsible forwards on this team.
Let's just call it what it is.
The defense is horrible.
and the system they're trying isn't working.
Now, the system seems to be,
get the fucking puck away from me
as quickly as possible and to the forwards,
because they can score.
But they're not able to do that enough or fast enough.
And what blows my mind is how many people are going,
man, Bobrovsky, fuck it sucks.
I look at Saturday nights game,
and I agreed with you,
outside of the first goal guys,
I'm seeing a lot of straight legs.
I'm seeing a lot of mispositions.
I'm seeing a lot of freeze frames
where guys are like, yeah, I'm just,
I'm puck watching.
And I think it's because they don't know
what they're supposed to do.
The third goal was disgraceful, like, in terms of, like, I'm looking at it.
I'm like, Bob doesn't even move.
And the reason he doesn't even move is because it's the easiest bang, bang play ever.
You made it way too easy for them.
For the Islanders.
Yeah.
Who can't score?
And have no bars all.
Oh.
No bars all.
No Micelli.
We were waiting for.
They had 10 forwards.
I know everybody's waiting for Micelli to get a hat trick.
I know they were waiting for me.
They had 10 forward.
And Pallon, Rich.
She gone to.
Calum Richie, who, if I'm not mistaken, was the only Islander who scored against you last time you played.
Yep.
And you lose them both in the first period.
So they have 10 forwards.
They don't have Parcell.
Yep.
Like, Machelli is an important piece for them offensively.
He is.
Richie is an important piece for them offensively.
Both those guys play on the power play.
And you lost that game four one.
So that's not good enough.
My point is this.
And Jesse's going to bring up some examples here, which I love.
You lost the Sabers team without Dahlene as well.
My example, well, that was the coach.
I'm putting that on the coach, squarely on the coach.
And the coach said, by the way, after that game, I think somebody talked to him
because he said, we will not do that again.
We will not, we will not be not aggressive when we have.
Good, because that's the only way to win.
This, this, before any, before you could possibly fix anything else,
you have to fix the system that this defense is playing.
You have to.
You got to do something.
And, you know, maybe it takes a few more games to get the system that they think is the
optimal system. But like, for instance, if I go to you in July, Jesse and Steve,
and I say to you, legitimate pairing top four, Riley Stetcher. God bless Troy Stetcher,
who is a beauty. He's the man. And his shot set up the only goal that Leaves had. Yep.
No. Riley Stetcher. No. That's what we're doing? I don't think on. And we're doing it today, too,
by the way.
I don't think on a Stanley Cup contender he's in the top six, let
alone the top four.
Well,
and we know this is not a Stanley Cup contending team.
That's the other thing.
He was on the Oilers in the Stanley Cup final.
He was.
Yeah,
but not every game.
He did get into games.
Not every game.
How many games?
Okay.
No,
I don't look at it up.
We can be exact.
We can be exact because I did bring it up.
He did get into games.
He played and if I remember correctly, he played terrible.
Okay, but what's that thing Jesse's using to find out James, John
Jonathan Hiller. I believe it's a top lap.
Ah. Yes.
In Edmonton, he was in two
of the finals games. There you go.
Hey, he made it in. He made it in.
But both of your points, I think, stand,
which is he did make it in, and no, he's not in the top six.
And I think that is where I look at the,
by the way, Cody Cici was scratched in that series.
I think one of those games for Troy Stetcher. Just throwing that out there.
One shot. Oh, no, that's 25. Never mind.
Minus one. Jesse, could I see the ice time?
I would love to have.
Well, yeah.
That game, he got benched by his coach.
Four minutes.
And he ended up playing 418 in that game.
And then, yeah, next game, 3, 1338.
And then did not see another game in the finals.
So like.
So like.
So, Jesse, what do you got to show us?
Because the great thing about Jesse is he,
so I had Everly stay up past her bedtime.
Her bedtime is 7 o'clock.
And it's been, and she's in grade too.
And she's because she turns into a pumpkin at 7.01, man.
It gets emotional.
So we had her stay up and watch half of the first period.
And I said, and I had Steve on, I had Uncle Steve on.
And I said, do you know that Uncle Jesse's at the game?
She's like, no kidding.
Is he, will I be able to see him on TV?
And I said, you will not be able to see him on TV.
I said, but he is from the gondola looking down.
And she didn't quite understand what a gondola was.
And then we had to get into a whole sidetrack about what a gondola is.
And then I said, well, he's looking down at the ice, though.
She's like, but is he hanging from the ceiling?
She wanted to know if they roped you to the ceiling.
Yes.
But you get a bird's eye view of this.
That's where the gondola for the press is here at Scotia Bank Arena in Toronto.
So, Jesse, show us some goal tape.
We got two goals we got to go over.
Okay.
One, since we're on the Troy Stedger thing, let's bring up Troy Stetcher and Riley.
The second goal, the Islander score.
Stetcher is retrieving a puck that's been dumped down into the Leaf's end.
He has a decision to make.
Shall he ring it around the boards to Morgan Riley or shoot it directly at two islanders
that are there to cover off that side of the ice.
Okay, so let me point something else out here.
Sure.
Okay, let's pass it to Riley.
Where's he going?
Where's Mo going?
Stick up in the air, straight legs coming towards the middle.
Yeah.
Give me an option!
Well, do you think he's going to turn around at the,
at the, the Moulson logo there?
Like, do you think Morgan's thing here is...
I would in Beer League.
Well, no, what I'm saying is like, does Morgan want to stay along the boards there so we can do a quick turn and turn and burn?
Or maybe he is, maybe he's coming further down.
So Mo is actually, Jesse goes to this frame.
So excuse me, Moe, Mo is telling him where to put the puck.
Yeah, the surprise there on this in Stetcher's decision making is he gets some help from his de pairing.
And Morgan Riley actually points to the side of the ice where there are to Island.
Now, I don't have microphone footage.
Maybe he's telling him, hey, there's two islanders there.
Don't shoot it there.
Or telling Montana where to go?
But it sure looks like he's telling somebody to do something.
I don't know if he's telling Stetcher to shoot it that side or if he's telling them, hey, there's two islanders there.
But either way, we have here, Troy Stetcher, look over his shoulder, see those two guys.
And Moe does not carry behind the net there.
Stetcher just throws it at the two islanders who then.
and get the puck off the board because McKenna isn't able to reach the,
they actually did a bad job with the camera work there,
cutting to that camera because you want to see McKenna come to this side here.
He doesn't get there in time.
Horvette beats him to that puck after he gets it off the board.
Just for anybody listening,
it's near the top of the face off circle on the boards.
Yes, on the left side.
I have more faith in McKenna defensively than most,
but like he's in a puck battle with Bo Horvatt,
which that sucks, good luck.
And Morgan was not going to the back of the other side.
of the net to retrieve to get a pass from Stetcher.
He was simply going to the front of the net
where he is helpless against two islanders
and there is a goal in the back of the net
with Stetcher on the ground in the goal.
And Bob gives you a good save there too.
Yeah. That's why all the goaltending stuff
that people are talking about coming out of Saturday
and I know you had the Vesatostokovovsky stat in the LFR
where he's the last goaltender to allow three plus goals
starting his Leaf's tenure since Vesatio.
I'm not worried about the Bobrowski stuff because their defense is so poor.
And then the third goal, the Islanders scored, is the same thing.
It's absolutely poorest defense.
Hayden, you can throw this up here.
It's a man right in the middle of the slot.
Any NHL.
What are we doing?
Any NHL in this league.
How many are there?
600, 800?
Over 800.
800 NHLers are scoring this goal.
You are point blank on the goaltender from the slot on a,
a nice pass from the back of the net.
That's a goal every single time.
That's not on the goaltender.
The Leifes have very poor defense from their defensemen,
the six guys out there,
and their four group isn't good in their own defensive.
Like just this screenshot alone,
the Islander behind the net is going to make it in front
before the guy chasing him.
Holmstrom is alone in front.
Horvatt is able to make that pass
with lots of time and space.
There's five.
Leafs in this screenshot.
There's three Islanders.
It's a three on five.
Guys.
And there's a giant hole in the slot.
Is that Jake McCabe?
I think it is.
It's Jake McCabe shaped.
Let's look at the,
regardless of whether it's Jake McCabe.
He's been awful.
Yeah, that's him.
22.
That's him.
There you go.
So this is where.
That's brutal.
I'm like, and so when people go, man,
Barovsky stinks,
is giving them the first save most of the time.
Most of the time.
First goal wasn't great.
What you need.
And yeah,
and hey,
goalie's going to let in stinkers
and we got to call that out.
There was a thing.
Oh,
midway through our,
like midway through the 2010s
where you couldn't call a goalie out
on anything,
which was bullshit.
But like,
what is this?
That's,
that's Blugher,
that's Sissons.
Yeah.
And those are defensively strong guys.
I almost wish
every time they went on defense,
they could just go to the P.K.
So wait,
it's Bluger and it's Sissens.
what's Jake McCabe doing?
Oh, man.
Oh, this is such a mess.
That's such a mess.
McCabe had a really bad game.
This is the team with the best PK percentage in the league.
It's weird, right?
Last year's was good.
It's really weird.
Not great, dude.
Yeah.
No.
That's why I think Bob gets a break because, one, they didn't score enough goals to win.
Yes.
You're not going to win with one goal.
Yep.
the defense in front of them is a disaster.
One little bit of context on the Vesotoskla stat.
So he's the first Leafs goalie to allow, what was it,
three or more goals in each of his first six games of the season
since Vesotoccal in 2009.
Number one, doing that in 2009 is wild.
You stink.
Because nobody scored.
No one scored.
Now everyone scores.
other thing
I've been throwing in
old LFR clips
into the videos this year
and I was like
I wonder what I said
about Vesotoskla in this game
I defended him
oh no
because he did have a
he had a good game actually
the Leaves got caved
if I'm not mistaken
he stopped 32 of 35
but he allowed three
they only scored two
what are you supposed to do
but it's funny
it's wild that oh man
this is the first time
and this happens to 2009.
That was forever ago,
and I was two seasons into making.
And defending him for that.
On Saturday, I thought Jim Hiller really got out-coached.
You see at just a masterclass from Pete Nabor
within a team that is literally at a disadvantage
with the personnel he has.
And their system is so structured when they're playing well.
Like we didn't see it at the first game of the season,
but Saturday,
they clog up the neutral zone
and then when they're in their defensive zone
everything's around the perimeter for the leaps
and there were long stretches,
10 minute stretches where the leaps didn't get shots on goal.
First period, right?
Because, yeah, in the middle of the first period
because the Islanders were playing
in such good structure that everything was on the outside
and nothing could get towards the net.
And when that's happening,
Jim Hiller has, he doesn't know what to do there.
He doesn't know how to deploy his players
to break through that.
And the Islanders and Pete DeBore played
a fantastic system on Saturday.
DeBoar uses his ponies really, really well.
And I like Justin Bourne's breakdown about how, like, they're a big, heavy team.
Case and point.
I didn't know Braden Chen could still move that way.
I thought he had an incredible game.
And the stat I saw was when Andre Pallat, reminder, this is 20,26.
When Andre Pallat was on the ice, the shot attempts were 20 to nothing in favor of the islanders.
Jeez.
Andre Poh.
What are you talking about?
he had a he had a he had a vintage andre palat game is why i have a palat devil's jersey somewhere in
he uh he was a he was a man uh he was a man uh he was a man especially in the playoffs
i know he's overpaid i still think i know he's in the last value he is a valuable yeah i think
just not at six million he was honestly one of the most i don't know maybe one of the most
underrated players of the let's go the back half of the 2010 you get him into the playoffs
that's a valuable bottom.
Yeah.
Just get them into the playoffs.
Now, I want to talk about the fact that the stats for the Leafs,
because Justin Bourne actually, I'm glad you brought him up.
He did say, listen, this team's going to win some games.
Like, you know, Steve in your video, you kind of played both sides a little bit,
and I liked that because you were like,
nah, they'll probably be fine, but let's talk about the scenario where they won't be.
Because I think, you know, if we don't have a Steve Dangel video
where Tina Glenn is not coming out, the warrior, the warrior and warrior,
that is Tina Glenn,
then I don't think we're getting
the full aspect of Steve.
I think this team will be fine.
Justin, basically,
and I'm paraphrasing,
said that, you know,
this is a team that is going to win some games.
And they've played mostly playoff competition.
You know, Islanders are on the fringe of that.
They almost ran it.
Yeah.
But that's why I said fringe.
And this week,
they're playing the team that has scored
26 out of 32 in terms of goals scored this year
and they're playing the 30th highest scoring team as well.
The San Jose Sharks have only scored 21 goals in eight games.
The Blue Jackets have scored 17 and 7.
And just to give you a goals against thing,
the San Jose Sharks have allowed the 11th most goals
and I'm going to look up the Columbus Blue Jackets
in just a second here, but it ain't that bad.
the Columbus Blue Jackets
I will find for you.
Just give me a second.
We now go live to Rick Bonus.
What do you think about this one?
It's just bad.
Bad my team's bad.
Yeah, Rick's got a chill, dude.
By the way, Columbus actually 23 goals allowed, so not bad.
The problem for Toronto is that they're seventh and goals allowed.
But in goals four, they're 10th.
Oh, that's not as high as seventh.
So it doesn't tell you everything, but if you can outscore your problems, which this team
we'll have to do you can win these next two games listen you got a back to back and then you're
playing against new york uh they got to pick up some points in at the end of this month here yeah
they do i've already i outlined this before the season and i felt so vindicated this morning i
shouted through the windshield listening to cj show where he talked about the leaps heading into the
season they identified their october schedule as a problem and you know short preseason you get the
mountain road trip, which is the modern day
Death Valley road trip.
And then you get the Western
Canadian road trip, which is,
there's always an added level of
difficulty to that road
trip. You start with the
Oilers. And then you get some
teams that have struggled, but
ultimately you're going into their barn.
Right? The flames who beat the
hurricanes last night, the
Krakken who have been come see, come saw at the beginning
of the season. And then the
Canucks, who we know we're not an easy
out.
So the schedule makers have made that Western road trip easy for the Leafs this year, though.
Yes.
Because two of those Western road trip starts are 7 o'clock Eastern.
Oh, they made it easy for Leave fans.
And one of those is also 8.30 p.m. Eastern time.
Oh, okay.
So they actually only have one really late game.
That's a Seattle game at 10 o'clock.
Yes.
Edmonton is at 7.
Calgary is 830.
Seattle, like you said, is 10 and Vancouver is 7.
And there's a two-day break built in there.
said this at the beginning of the season.
You start at home as soon as November begins.
You do not play a road game until November 17th.
And you don't play your second road game until November 23rd.
That's when you take back ground,
but they got to do their best to hold the line here.
Yep.
Because you're starting to slip.
Yeah, that's a three-week stretch where you have to collect points.
You do.
And there's some good teams, man.
Like you're going murderers row of Colorado, Minnesota, Edmonton.
Yeah, but you already beat Colorado.
They're soft.
Even YouTube.
Utah.
Yeah.
And then.
Before that.
You have Utah, Montreal, New Jersey.
Like, all those teams, the six teams you play there should be playoff teams.
Like that's a hard stretch.
You have to have three points already.
Like you're going to have to score at least four.
He has, what does he have 24 and eight games?
It's stupid.
It's a lot.
It's really dumb.
He might break like, what is the post 0405 lockout record for points?
I'm sure he has it.
It's like 150.
It's whatever he is and then he'd have to just top him.
Do you think Babs gets a tribute video?
What do you mean?
No.
When he comes back to Toronto?
Because it'll be his first game coaching in Toronto since he was fired.
I don't.
I don't.
We're a long past that.
All right.
The McDavid thing I saw that was fascinating is the next person.
on the all-time points list is Stephen Stamco's.
And this season, depending on how their two seasons go,
McDavid could pass Stephen Stamcoast this year in career points.
Stamcoast, who has an absolutely...
Insane career.
Locked in hockey Hall of Fame career.
McDavid was drafted seven years, eight years, after him.
Stamcoast was 08.
McDavid was 15.
Dude, go on the all-time list.
The guys, McDavid, is.
blowing by
blowing by
are crazy
he's blowing by
locked
locks
for the Hall of Fame
now I'm gonna
I'm gonna beg you guys
not to spend
too much time on this
because we got other shit
to get to
we under I know
Connor McDavid's good
and he's putting up a lot
of points
yeah but it's worth
emphasizing how
I know but we can't do
it every week
like to
I do want to get to
some other shit
we got other shit
we gotta get to
I love Connor McDavid
has
one thousand two
266 points.
Connor McDavid has 1,200.
He's passing him this year.
He's passing him.
It's unbelievable.
He's passing him.
What McDavid is doing with his career.
Like,
think of the way Jeremy Ronic is talked about in terms of like his all time place on the American like scores list.
McDavid waltzed by him in like 500 fewer games.
Yep.
Yeah.
He's an alien.
A ginnla!
He's going to blow by a ginnla by like valendine.
We always had questions about Jerome.
Anzay Copatar.
All right, guys, we're moving on.
Not because I don't love Connor McDavid.
Don't take this as an offense if you're an oiler fan,
but I have to continue the conversation
because there's a lot of shit to get to in the next hour of this show.
Michael Misa from Toronto, does he get a hat trick tonight?
He's got 20 family and friends in tonight.
No, he's going to pick up assists on, like,
he's going to pick up an assist on a nurse goal.
Uh-huh.
And I think he chips in another assist on a Stenberg goal.
and probably scores his own from Maclin.
So there's three points.
Okay, I love that.
Now, here's the thing.
Steve Sullivan, I think was on,
I think it was with the Leafs Nation.
There was an interview he did.
And he said in the interview,
I think it was with Leaves Nation,
the Leaves Morning Take.
Steve Sullivan thinks that Ben Danford is just about ready.
And he said it won't be too long.
Now, Danford was injured slightly in their first game.
It was day to day.
I think he's back now.
But my question to you is, okay, Leif's defense is bad.
Let's say November comes around and it's still bad, which it will be.
Okay?
Maybe the system gets a little better, but it's going to be bad.
Do you put Van Danford into this lineup before Chris Tannup comes back?
Because my instant feeling was, I'm waiting for Chris Tannup to come back and then we will try Danford.
You're waiting for an indefinite amount of time.
Yeah.
Who knows when Chris Tannup will be available.
Don't Kit Gloves his player.
This guy has played.
more hockey games over the past two, three seasons than pretty much anybody his age.
You know, some of the guys who have played in the NHL, like Celebrini might have played more.
But like he played on an Oshua General's team that went to the OHL Final.
Then he played on an Oshua General's team that went to the OHL Final.
Then he played on the Brantford Bulldogs who went to the third round and got eliminated.
immediately joins the Marley's Calder Cup.
He played like 30 plus playoff games last year,
just playoff games.
This is a grown man.
You don't need to kid gloves to this guy.
So you think if he jumped in,
like there's not,
like let's say he gets burned on his first shift.
Okay.
Are you worried about confidence?
Because that's always the thing.
Is it confidence,
the yo-yoing,
the whatever?
No,
I'm not worried about,
I'm not worried about this player.
I'm not.
I really think the world of him,
I've been a big baby about including him in trade packages.
I think, like, I don't think he's going to have,
I don't think he's ever going to have mind-blowing counting numbers.
I just don't think that's the player case.
I think that they hope that he becomes another Chris Tanna.
Like, there are draft picks you make and you're like,
this guy might be high end.
He might not really ever play.
He might not pan out.
Think of a guy like Josh Levo.
Like when Josh Levo was drafted,
it's okay, this guy can be like a consistent top six middle six score in the
NHL or he's going to kind of fizzle out.
And he ended up being somewhere in the middle mostly fizzle out.
Ben Danford is going to have a hundreds and hundreds of games long NHL career, I think.
I think he's going to play 700 plus NHL games.
He's going to have a very long career in this league.
Why wait?
If you think he's ready now.
Well, Sullivan said close to ready.
What is the gap right now between Troy Stetcher and Ben Dan.
I think that Ben Danford's a better defenseman at the NHL level right now.
What is the gap between Nick Blankenberg and Ben Danford?
I think Ben Danford should probably be better.
Maybe confidence that might be it between the years.
Just experience.
I have like he waltzed it.
I didn't think he was going to play.
When he got sent down to the Marley's,
I was like they have a thousand to,
defenseman. He's not going to play. And then they threw him into the game. And I went,
oh, well, it is the AHL. So you don't always go with your best lineup, I guess, but it is the
playoffs. And I don't know about this. Andy, they never took him out. He's their top pairing.
It was Rify Danford when I was there at the Hammers game. That's a grown man. I'm telling you
it's a grown man. Put him in. Jesse, do you think, second best defenseman on that pair, though.
Oh, yeah. Well, it flies up and Danford isn't. So Jesse's right.
the only thing
and you can't say this ever about the
Leafs is that right side's getting crowded
so like an NHL defenseman's going to have
to come out of the lineup
crowded by guys who are
like hey take our leave correct
yeah what are we we're crowding it with
with third pairing guys yeah they'll have to learn
to come out. It's like me like oh my garage is
crowded yeah you got a bunch of junk in there
like oh my God I got rusty screws
that's so crazy this is very
what will I do with them all this is very harsh
Ben Danford might play in a
top four one day, credibly, the two guys they have as options below Darren Radish cannot.
Riley and Stetcher are third pair guys.
End of story.
That is what it is.
And that is, you know what?
Today's Morgan Riley's revenge game because one of the teams he apparently would have gone
to was the sharks, but they said, no, we'd take Darnall Nurse instead.
So Riley should come out and just box some ears.
You know what I'm saying?
I don't think John Chica's.
Clap your lungs.
I don't think John Chica is sitting on his hands,
and I think they all know that they need an upgrade on D.
If we can all see it, they know it.
And he's been so busy this offseason
that if there was a deal out there to be made for what on Saturday headlines,
they said prime asset to be available,
that he would go get it.
But I just think, like, at this point,
there's just nothing around the league.
You can kind of make a fair hockey trading yet,
because you're not going to yard sale Easton Cowan somewhere.
You're not just going to move that first round pick for a Brandon Carlo type.
They need something substantial on the back end.
We can all see it.
A stopgap isn't going to work.
It needs to be a big overhaul.
And just right now, that's not available.
And they can't do it, which is unfortunate.
Put it this way.
Like, I kind of like Tina's Luke Koblar.
Like, I think he has some NHL potential there.
I see leave fans in every trade go, oh, you throw TLK in there.
Okay.
So if you're doing that,
means a GM is not taking that player.
Right. If he's a throw-in to get it like, if you're like, oh, yeah.
Yeah, no, they're not, he has more value to the Leafs organization playing for it than he does in a trade.
He is not a throw-in either. He's not. That's what I'm saying. He's not. And, and you, you, people bitch and moan and they should about the Fraser Mitten deal. Don't do it again.
Exactly. That's why I started with. When are we going to learn? Yeah. Well, when you say we, though,
What I'm again, I'm including myself because I was like, ah, well, maybe he's on the third pair or third line.
Yeah.
So that's why I go like Aksiyom of might be your only asset.
You actually have to make a deal.
But goalies, their like trade value is so low.
I don't know.
I think right now it's the guys that they keep switching it and trying, like the refis,
you got to see what you got.
You have to at least try Blankenberg and they have for the last little bit.
And it has to be an internal upgrade.
I'd love with Danford McCabe pairing.
Oh, well.
Yeah, we'll see.
And it would be nice if Jim Hiller could coach these guys to a better ability.
Like I know Craig Bruey.
Do we have questions about that, Jesse?
But if he could come up with some sort of creative system to where you are defensively deficient and you can win games with your offense and it was trying that but also play a good defense, if you could do it through coaching, that would be awesome.
But maybe that's also impossible because the players aren't good enough.
So we'll see.
But I think the candidates are internal right now.
I want to quickly say that during the intermission on like headlines, a second intermission Saturday night hockey, whatever the hell they're calling.
calling it.
Frege said they're willing to move their Colorado
first. You can get a lot for a late first.
You can. You just have to make smart trades. Like if you look
at what Vegas is done, they're great with
trading a late first. They're killer.
But that's usually near the deadline,
and that might be too late. We don't know.
The other thing is they are open to moving older D-Men for
younger guys, LOL. Is what I wrote in my notes.
And I'm like, yeah, I bet they are.
They've got the oldest D-Corps in the league.
The leaves are turning. The temps are dropping.
and the weekend air is getting that nice autumn crisps.
Just because the weather is changing doesn't mean you've got to pack away the fun.
Chubbies is here to make sure your fall wardrobe hits harder than a PSL on a slow Sunday morning.
I think we need to upgrade our wardrobes.
We're dressed too closely together.
A lot of us needs to go get some more Chubbies.
You're right.
Now here's the deal.
Chubby's original stretch shorts can live on your legs available in long, long-ish short, way short, however you want them.
They've also got the swim trunks.
And they've got a for the colder weather.
And dad's season, a chubby performance polo.
Oh.
So you look good.
You look kind of, you know, you look put together.
But it's also, it's great for the brunch, the backyard party, the morning walk with the dog, whatever it is that you need to do.
And you don't need to iron it.
Isn't that great?
Or for coffee looking.
Yes.
Just, you know, walking around with your coffee looking in windows.
Looking.
Yeah.
I look at nature.
I don't just.
How's your morning?
Like the guy from art of play.
Yeah, yeah.
There you go.
Now, whether you're layering up for tailgates and lounging for lazy Sundays or just leaning into fall comfort, Chubbies has you covered.

Once upon a time, the Steve Dangle podcast needed a store.
And this is before we were Steve Dangle podcast with the end, which means network, you see.
And so Jesse Blake, younger at the time, unbeknownst to Steve and I said, Shopify, that's what I will do.
And I remember the meeting because it was like during the pandemic.
And Jesse just pulls us on to Zoom and goes, here's our new website.
And here's how I built it.
And here's how I built the shop.
Super easy.
Even a man like me who has no experience building websites could be like, hey, Shopify,
I love your plug-in-play aspect of just like, hey, we'll put this here, this looks good here,
and then that's all done.
Shopify's great.
What's amazing now, and Jesse didn't have access to this at the time, is the AI assistant.
It can help business tasks along the way with your store setup and your planning of your promotions.
Their mobile app lets you manage key parts of your store from literally anywhere.
I have the Shopify app on my phone right now.
Yeah, inventory, customer support payments, Shopify checkout, shop pay converts with 36% higher than the competition, which I think is pretty great.
Tough for the competition.
They are analytics.
Fantastic.
You like their analytics?
Like the advanced analytics.
I think Dom would write like a very favorable chart about Shopify's analytics.
I like that.

An outdoor scare zone where the scares continue between the haunted houses and you do not have to be 19 plus to enter screamers.
There is 19 plus licensed vampire lounges, you know.
Are they going to serve blood?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I have to go find out.
But be 19 plus for that.
Screamers is probably not recommended for children under 10.
So, you know, just play it by ear.
Also not recommended for Jesse Blakes who have scary screams in and of themselves.
I'm not sure what would be scarier.
Screamers or Jesse scream at screamers.
Oh.
Your scream is way scarier than that.
No.
Screamers is open from 7 to 11, Sundays and weekdays and 7 to midnight for a little late night scare.
Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets available at screamers.comstions encouraged, but no masks or weapons, please, obviously.

One thing I did want to jump in on is Nikita Zadorov was scratched for some late game.
I guess Marco Sturm, coach of the Bruins, said it was undisciplined.
He took a double minor at the end of a game against the ducks and it was stupid.
They interfered with Frank Fortrano and then he went back and cross-checked him in the face.
Yeah, so the double minor and that sucks and whatever.
His agent Dan Milstein was on Twitter and somebody said he would never be, never would have
been treated that way in Toronto and Dan said, no, he wouldn't.
I know.
Wild.
I know, we know Dan, Dan has used Toronto before because remember, Canucks were coming to town.
There was a rumored deal in place for Tanev and Zedorov between the Leafs and the Canucks.
And Dan Milstein said, I hope Toronto's ready for Nikita Zodorov.
And we're like, it's happening.
No, Zadorov was on the flames at the time.
Oh, he was in the flames.
So Zadorov was on the flames and he had requested a trade out of Calgary.
Right.
And at that time, I believe Scream was, scream.
That should just be your name.
Steve was screaming at that time.
as well that this will never happen because Brad Trilliving is the GM of the Leafs.
Brad!
Calgary ownership would never allow them to do deals.
But Dan Milstein goes on Twitter and he's like, Leifes Forever, hashtag get your tickets for
Zadorov show.
And then a couple weeks later, Zadarov is traded from Calgary to Vancouver.
And that Leaves thing never happens.
Every moment Brad for Living spent on the phone with the Calgary Flames as GM of the Leaves was
wage theft.
And the Zadorovir...
They were never...
making a deal with you.
No.
Ever.
No.
And the Zedarv deal
from Calgary to Vancouver
was a little overwhelming
with the picks that they got back.
I think it was,
I forget the exact big.
Oh,
everyone was.
A third and a fourth.
Fifth.
The best was furious.
Yeah.
Like if they sold them for absolutely nothing
because I think they were just tired of him,
they wanted to go away.
And then that off season,
he signs the six-year deal
with the Boston Bruins.
How quickly things changed.
The Canucks were buying.
The one thing I want to say.
Controversy tends to follow this player.
Yes.
Well, certainly.
And he's always been,
he's always fun to watch, and he's very good in the playoffs,
but then there's times where he does stupid shit.
He's led the league in penalty minutes the last two seasons.
So that's not helpful.
Although this team can kill penalties.
Totally.
And he has been decent for the Bruins so far this season.
Absolutely.
According to Bruins fans, like they've been happy with his play and everything,
he just needs to get his head in the game.
But for a guy who's not a Matthew Olivier type
where you're expecting to fight every game,
leading the league in penalty minutes to me is a giant red flag.
Well, especially as a defenseman when there's only six of them.
And I think here's what I want to say.
I'm not saying the Doroff's getting traded, and I'm not saying the Leafs are going to trade for him.
What I'm saying is you need to find the shake-loose candidates because I had to look at who you could have claimed off of waivers the last couple of years on defense.
And the names are not exciting.
So last season it was Letty, Soilov, Damon Hunt, Sabrango, Stetcher, some names I've never even seen before.
And then the season before, Ludwig Fabro, Regula, Murr.
Mermis, Dermott, Mermis, remember?
Nick D. Simone, Adam Boquist,
Andreas England, Travis Dermott again,
Jordan Austerley. So you're not probably going to find
your Brandon Bussie of defensemen on waivers this year
or at any year unless you get one Gus Foresling a decade.
Yeah.
And that can't be your strategy.
No, it can't.
And so you can't go in to be like, man,
we're going to get real lucky on waivers.
We need to find a team that gets mad at a player and goes,
okay,
you and find that player.
Now, one guy that I think about a lot,
I think about this player a lot,
is Alex Texier.
Uh-huh.
How did Alex Texier become a frigging Canadian?
Does anyone remember?
He bought himself,
or no, they mutually terminated the contract.
Just gave him up.
And the Canadians are like, we'll get you.
And he's been good.
That's a player.
That's a player.
That short circuit right there was me thinking of Carrier
who was on waivers.
Also, was he on waivers?
Also, that was a trade with Nashville, sorry.
Carrier was basically now,
that's Montreal being smart and calling the dumbest team.
They got Carrier for nothing.
They did it again.
They keep doing it.
They keep doing it.
And I think like you look at, listen, is it Mike Matheson?
Is it Lane Hudson?
No.
But imagine what a player like one of the two I just mentioned could add to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Hide the room together.
By the way, to follow up on what Jesse said.
So I added all of last year's penalties and the beginning of this season's.
Nikita Zedorov leads the league with 48 minor penalties.
The next closest are Logan Stanley and Charles Edward Dastu tied at 30.
He's also had seven majors.
You better have a good penalty kill if he's on your team.
Yeah, no, I think, oh my God.
I was about to say, I think Marco Sturm has a point.
Also, I should be on this page a little more often because my eyes do not deceive me.
Number four is Oliver Ekman Larson.
Oh.
Yeah, he's, yo, he's got a tight whistle.
And Zadurov coming to Toronto would just make his whistle tighter.
You know that.
Refs hate O, E, L.
And they have from the moment he put blue and white on his chest.
As a panther, it was fine.
And if your defense score is already the oldest in the league, don't go out and get a 31-year-old.
That's younger than what they have.
I know like, okay.
It would shave the age.
Jesse.
The age thing's going to bother me.
Like, it's, you need.
31's not bad.
It's okay.
I'm not saying they should get the door.
This isn't the guy.
Like,
he could be part of it, though.
They're going to have to do this in pieces.
You can find,
now listen,
I'm not saying it's going to be Zadurov.
I don't think the Bruins is going to trade the player at all.
You don't want them at all.
Listen,
I like it's big and mean.
Also,
you're going to do another trade with the Bruins for defensemen.
No.
If the Bruins want to send you Zodov,
That is a Trojan horse.
You're right.
There's people in there shitting themselves for weeks, like in The Odyssey, and you're going to get a lemon.
He's just going through that with the sirens.
He's like, ah!
Yeah.
Time to the boat.
John Baranthal is going to sit there and be like, man, that was fucking awesome.
We just got the door right to Toronto.
We won the cup and boss.
Oh, no.
Since Dan Milstein tweeted that, all Bruins' Twitter is like, yeah.
Please.
Yeah, please.
That's bad.
Let's do that.
I, like, listen,
Milstein knows what he's doing.
We would not be doing a Nikita Zedorov segment just because he was scratch.
We might mention it.
We wouldn't be doing a whole sentence.
No, when the agent jumps in, it becomes a real story, right?
But like, Phil Kessel, Tuka Rass, Brandon Carlo.
Like, let's add to it.
Hey, the only one they got away with-
Sign up for that.
Even Cabberle, they kind of messed that up with Colburn.
Oh, yeah.
They screwed up his wrist.
and okay, a couple of things I need to get to
because I've got some great audio to play, all right?
So the first thing is
the Philadelphia Flyers have won in NHL.
Yay!
Now, we've been hard on the flyers,
so I figured we got to come back on the other side.
It was Martone, it was Mitch Koff,
a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old.
Old guy, coach, let young guys do young-guy shit,
and they won.
And they beat the Sends.
That's a good team.
That was a legitimate win.
That was a good game.
Could you get a first round pick for Mitchcoff?
I don't.
Did you see that clip?
Did somebody say that?
Did I say that?
Ryan Whitney from Spitting Chicklets.
The headline on the clip was just, can the Flyers get a first for Mitchcoff?
Sure they can.
And Flyers fans lost their minds.
Those guys know what they're doing.
Why would they trade Mitchcoff?
For a first round pick.
It might even be Mitchcoff.
Like, yeah.
No, you, of course you, of course you,
get a first game that day.
I thought it was very funny.
Trevor Ziegress also got an empty net goal with 14 seconds left.
And it was Travis Anheim who said, I think all along our team goes with the young guys and the steps that they take and are going to continue to take.
It's obviously positive and it hopefully continues.
That feels like feedback.
It's the young guys, Rick.
That feels like feedback.
Lean on the young guys and they're not going to be great every night.
And that's okay.
You don't need to punish them.
You don't need to play them for six minutes and 30.
seconds. Oh, wait, that's Toronto. Also, in the losing effort, Travis Green was able to gain,
not just because of the losing effort, a massive extension. He just signed a big multi-year extension
today. So Travis Green will be the head coach of the senators for a long time. So get ready for
more vomiting at Sends Camp every fall because he notoriously puts on the most intense training camp.
Oh, really? Bag skates the shit out of everybody. Can you still do that under the new
CBA rules? I think you, I think you can. Yeah? Yeah, I think you. Oh.
can be hard on them. Yeah, I think you can be hard on your players. He's like physical conditioning.
I want to see where you're at. I think wasn't it OEL one year who would like literally vomit it?
At Canucks Camp. Yeah. No, he looked not great. I think he was hurt too. So I wanted to get to that.
Shout them out. That was great. And I'm sure that was a nice relief for Flyers fans.
There is a follow up to the ticket selling thing. Now, I have not reached out to the Oilers or the
Canadians, but they have reported lower ticket sales at various points this year. I did reach out to
the Blackhawks though. Remember how we were talking about the ticket broker thing? And I got a statement
from their PR team. Really? Yeah. No, they're actual PR. NHL PR teams are very, very, they're very responsive
to this stuff. They should be their PR. They are. Exactly. And so what I was told directly from
the Blackhawks is that they eliminated their broker program a couple years ago to maintain a
healthy blend of members, returning fans, all that stuff, which was essentially, for anybody that
might have missed the segment on Friday or who was bored by it. Essentially what was happening is
brokers were buying up a lot of season tickets and then they would on games that they knew they
weren't going to be profitable on blowing them out the door for low, lo, low, low, low prices.
And so a season ticket holder can't get off a ticket that they don't want to go to. And it really
pisses off your core fans. So that's happened a couple years ago. And I told you the Knicks did
this years ago. And it took them three years to get back to where they needed to be in terms
of ticket sales. The other thing is United Center is the largest,
arena in the NHL so attendance figures can look different according to them as they do in smaller
markets demand among their season ticket base say they're strong they had a 96% renewal and currently
approximately 1,000 full season equivalents ahead of last year continuing towards their membership
caps because every team caps their season tickets so their season seats have actually gone
up by a thousand yeah and while attendance can fluctuate game by game broader indicators of fan
interest in business performance remain very strong.
Now, we can also mention, and obviously they don't mention that here, the performance
hasn't been great, and no Connor Bedard until last week.
Bo Byram has not looked good.
I'm sure he's going to look a lot better with Connor Bedard to pass to.
Of course.
Kevin Korninski, I shared an article in our group chat the other day about like he's in
the weird middle of, are they going to play him?
Are they going to develop him?
What's Kevin Kortinski former high-end draft pick going to be?
And here's my thing with the Blackhawks situation, and it really doesn't.
come down to ticket sales or whatever because I know that's a really passing interest for the
average fan.
There is no proof, no proof to me on any level in the NHL that Jeff Blashell is a good
NHL coach.
There's not a single season that you can point to with Jeff Blaschell as the coach where
A, he was the first choice to be the head coach, and B, he was a guy that had the players
play better than they did previously.
Remember, Babcock chose to leave Detroit, right?
And Buffalo, he's going to be Buffalo's coach
and then Toronto swooped in at the last minute, right?
Blasher was the guy that took over.
And the Detroit Red Wings kicked off a pretty bad run
that has continued to this day.
And then when he got hired in Chicago,
it was on the heels of that guy,
and I can't remember his name,
the Denver head coach from the NCAA that everybody wants.
David Carl?
David Carl.
And they offered him apparently a five-year, $25 million,
contract and he said no thanks.
That's crazy.
And so who do they go with next?
Jeff Blashele.
So I'm, to me, it's, I get with the Blackhawks.
Like, if the Leafs had been that bad for that long, I don't think that Toronto fans
would be going either.
I mean, you saw they were bad for a season last year and people stopped going.
It's not the way, it's not the lock in ticket it used to be.
I think at a certain point, you're going to have to call it, call it a day here with Jeff
Blaschell.
I would say him and the GM.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Him and the GM.
And it doesn't have to mean they're bad.
They've both been there a while.
There have been no results.
It takes, it takes a village sometimes.
Yep.
Like, not every GM is 100% responsible for the Stanley Cup winning team.
You know what I mean?
Sometimes, yeah, the guy leaves the car warming in the driveway.
Yes.
Right?
And, you know, maybe the Blackhawks get it back on track and Kyle Davidson can go, I helped.
That's great.
But let's get a new guy in there.
Let's get a new coach in there.
You could try to find your version of Jared Bednar because Bednar got in on the ground level with the average.
I remember being like, are they going to fire this guy or what?
And Avs fans rightly were like, no, no, no, you just don't understand.
Trust me, he's doing some good things, even though the team is terrible.
he's still there and they have a cup him and john cooper long long term coaches does jeff
blashell deserve more than one season uh did jim hiller well jesse you got his wikipedia up let's have a
gander i want i was going to bring up his coaching record as well just to put it out there for the people's
his run through detroit no 15 2015 through 2025 through 22 they made the first round of the playoffs
uh they lost in the first round of the playoffs that first year in 15 16 last time detroit made the playoffs
and then we all know their playoff list streaks.
So, yeah, from 16 to 22, misses the playoffs.
And then as one year in Chicago last year, they go 29, 39, and 14.
We all obviously know they finish 31st in the league and they miss a playoffs.
Does he deserve more than one year?
He hasn't finished higher than fifth in his division since 2018.
But is he saddled with in Detroit coming off of one of the greatest runs we've seen a franchise have in NHL history
with their success.
And mismanagement.
And then he goes,
so he goes deep into that rebuild.
And then they've obviously had their struggles.
And then Chicago,
he enters it at this low point in their tenure.
Hold on.
Now, hold on a sec.
What did he do in between?
Because that's what I have.
22 to 25.
Yeah.
Does that shit?
Assistant coach to John Cooper.
Does that shit say 619 career games in one playoff appearance?
Yes.
What are we doing?
I think I'm on the side of give him the season.
Like, I mean, what are you firing him now for?
But does that shit say 619 games and one playoff appearance?
And 230-grim.
Yeah, because Steve Eisenman, he doesn't move quickly when things are going poorly.
I think a lot of those Detroit years, that was his guy, right?
He's won more than half of his team's games zero times.
Zero.
The highest was half.
41.
His career high and wins in a season is 40.
What are we doing?
Right.
But the reason for that is what I just outlined about the Detroit's deep rebuild.
He starts there.
And then Chicago, how do you expect anybody to have a winning record last year?
I brought up Jim Hiller's name because he did, he did the one, he had the one season in L.A.
And then last year at what was it after they did the Deno trade and whatever in January or February, they fired him.
Yeah, I think I would be surprised.
Unless they start winning, I would be real surprised if he makes it past February.
Winning or the core players on this team clearly like playing for him.
and they improve and they make a step.
Well, that's winning, isn't it?
Winning a little.
Yeah, like Byram fits in to be what Byram is what you thought he was.
Bedard, the ocean of young guys that they have.
That's a terrible resume, though.
Yes, no doubt.
Yeah, firing them now makes no sense, but holy boy.
Wow, that's a tough resume.
Yeah, I feel like that.
Six hundred games is like impressive given the resume.
Oh, yeah.
I feel for him like you reach your dream of coaching the NHL and all of it has been misery.
Imagine that.
He's got a lot of games, though.
Yes, over 600.
A win total.
A win total starting with a four once.
Here's what I want to say.
I would like to hear from Blackhawks fans.
I mean, Detroit fans could weigh in on this too.
I'd like to hear from Blackhawks fans about what you think that is and do you think that's the thing?
I just, I look at a guy like that.
I looked at Talket like that when he got hired in Vancouver.
I'm like, what is, where's the winning part?
And I know that's a little unfair.
He started in Arizona, but that's the job.
Right?
Is the job?
Oh, we're going to make it fair?
No, the job is you're in the NHL.
My kid asked me, she's like, on Saturday, another thing.
She was like, hey, so, you know, when I play, it's all about having fun.
I was like, absolutely.
And she's like, same with these guys.
And I said, no.
I said, you hope that they have fun.
but it's actually about winning at this level
because they're getting paid for it.
You're getting paid to coach to win.
And again, I ask,
it's not necessarily making the playoffs.
I know you were focused on that.
Tell me who flourished under Jeff Blashell.
Tell me who's like,
I'm a Jeff Blasheel disciple.
Like, I can point to Quinn Hughes
and go, he loved Rick Tockeet.
And he was pissed when he left.
We know that.
I was thinking,
I was going to say like Mo Sider,
but he's gotten so much better
these last couple years.
He also hasn't played for him since 22.
And that's a long time ago.
Yeah, and he was pretty young.
I don't think it's a long list out of him.
That's my point, right?
And I'm not to say
Jeff Blasheel's not a great assistant coach.
I feel the same with Lane Lambert.
I sort of sometimes feel the same way with Jim Hiller.
There are guys who are phenomenal assistant coaches.
Lane Lambert is one of them.
It's different.
It is different to be a head coach.
Look at DJ Smith.
Why do you think he's the assistant coach
in Edmonton now?
He's an elite assistant coach.
Yeah.
I do think it's,
I think it's interesting that how our Lane Lambert conversation has aged.
Well, you were absolutely right about him.
Well, no, no, but you were right about him being a, we were both right.
Because he was a bad head coach.
Was.
And I was like, yeah, but he's an assistant watch.
He'll be great.
And then it worked out very well.
He went back to being a head coach and it's been bad.
Honestly, if he gets fired this year, Leif should move heaven and earth.
get him back to fix this decor because that was the best that 2425 Leafs defense especially when
Carlo arrived I'm not getting actually was the best defense we've seen in the Matthews era it's kind of
an interesting thought he made Simone Benoit an overtime goal score they do have the best PK
they do still have the best PK but they had that last year with Llan yeah it's an interesting thought
I'm just saying um okay last thing one thing about uh mr blasheel just to note this not relevant at all
but interesting he
grew up in Sioux St. Marie, but not the
Sue St. Mary, you know. He grew up in
Sue St. Mary, Michigan.
Oh.
There's a Sue St. Marie in the upper part
of Michigan. I was like, penguins? Oh,
they don't want it. How did you know that?
Internet. Whoa.
Shit. I got to give this thing a shot.
You should try it. Okay. Now,
the last thing I wanted to hit,
and this is fun.
Okay? We have identified
an NHL player. First off, this guy is
going to have a broadcasting career.
Okay?
Oh.
The greatest intermission and greatest post-game interview in the NHL is Devin Cooley.
And he is the goaltender for the Calgary Flames.
The Calgary Flames beat the Carolina Hurricanes.
I want to show you a mid-game interview and then I want to show you his post-game.
And you're just going to want to die for this man.
And I know not a lot is going well for the Flames right now.
And he acknowledges that.
And I know a lot of information about the flames kind of gets buried because, like,
outside of Calgary.
There's not even like a first overall pick that we're looking at in Calgary's
lineups.
Like, well, what's Matt Begradine going to do this year?
I mean, they are kind of the other guys, unfortunately.
That's everybody has that season.
You get McDavid, who's McDavid, and the Oilers are contending.
And you're just not.
It's not your time right now.
You're rebuilding.
That's right.
Finally.
So the one from midgame, we can't run.
Oh, we can't run.
Run the post game one.
Okay.
This is, you're right.
That would be on television.
Sorry about that, Jesse.
Mids SportsNet Broadcast.
You know what?
Straight up, look it up.
But the other one, this is great.
This is so much fun.
Do you just play this full clip?
Just let it play for like a couple minutes, all right?
Okay, okay, okay.
Tell us about your mindset.
Yeah, the mindset.
I just talked about it out there, but like just trying not to feel or think about
anything that was about myself.
You know, because every second that you spend thinking about yourself
through your conscious brain, it distracts you from what's
happening out in front of you. And that's what I've been doing. And it helps a lot when you're
working and you're learning. But the game is way too fast out there to let your conscious brain
decide. And I'm a really bad conscious brain goalie, if that makes sense. So I just let my unconscious
brain do everything. Like don't think about anything. Don't have too much fun. Don't smile too much.
Just shut it off. And then I just start making saves. And then I'm like, I don't even know how I made
that save. And then it's like, well, it doesn't matter. You know, and then you let up a goal in
I can't believe that goal.
It's like, it doesn't matter.
The pass is dead.
You know, there's nothing for you there.
And it was, yeah, and that worked.
What does this do for the team and for you, I guess, to beat a team like this?
Yes.
For the team, it's excellent because we have the ability to play great every night, you know,
and it's just a matter of time.
And the goalies, too, man.
Everyone's panicking about the goalies.
Everyone just chill out, you know.
We're going to be fine.
You know, Dustin's going to be fine.
I'm going to be fine.
You know, sometimes you just have a bad start and things aren't going your way,
but I have so much faith in our goalie department, in Barb's, in our process, in our work ethic,
in our talent level.
I just have so much faith.
You know, I might get lit up next game.
I don't know, but it doesn't matter because I just know that over the long run and over
the average of things, things are going to work out really well.
And we're going to be good because we have the ability to be good, you know.
It's just a matter of time.
I know maybe just if you could describe what you were seeing, at least in front of you there
in the final seconds because there was a lot of chaos.
It's always a lot of chaos when it's six.
on five and the last, but those are the best, that's my favorite time to play.
It's like where you have the most amount of adrenaline, where you're most into the game,
you're just like in a complete flow.
It's so much fun.
It's so chaotic.
You're just diving around.
There's no technical game anymore.
The technical game, throw it out the window because you're just surviving at that point and it's so much fun.
It's just like it's, you feel like you're a little kid again.
Like I'm diving around star fishing and stuff, you know, just trying to battle my way through.
And sometimes it doesn't work, but sometimes it works.
And it's like, man, it's just the best feeling ever when when the club.
clock goes to zero and then you get a win.
It's just like so much dopamine
and just to get goosebumps everywhere.
It's unbelievable.
In terms of inspiring your teammates,
you know that when you're doing the post-game interview,
the guys run to the TV to see what you have to say.
Really?
I had no idea.
That's so funny.
Yeah, I've talked to you about it before,
but yeah, it's like I just said,
the adrenaline right after the game
is like a 10 out of 10.
So I just, and again, it's just my unconscious mind going.
You don't be conscious about it.
You just whatever comes out comes out.
and you know, we'll deal with it tomorrow, I guess,
if I say something stupid.
So I didn't hurt the feeling when...
I went after that long shift of survival late in the second
when they go up and finally get the first go.
What was that look like?
It was, oh, thank God, you know.
But that's why we worked so hard with Rick
and the strength guys all summer,
so you can deal with that so your lungs can handle it.
And so, like, when that's happening,
I just, I try to slow my breathing down, like, just relax,
like, just calm down, it's going to be okay.
And just, like, really try to let my eyes,
do all the work instead of my body and not go chasing and not go running around, try to conserve
as much energy and just play a lot smarter than a lot harder, you know, and guys were unbelievable
blocking shots, you know, we got trapped out there, it's not easy for anybody, and we survived.
You know, it happened against Colorado, actually, and that was a great learning lesson because
it happened against Colorado, and I'm playing super hard, I'm not playing smart, and then I give up
a goal with no screen from the blue line, and it's like, that's exactly why you have to just
calm your breathing down, calm your mind down.
See, I told you guys, too.
You know, you get lit up in Colorado, and then you learn so much when you get lit up.
And of course, you get lit up, Husk isn't going to want to play me, so I had a lot of time to work on things.
And I've been working with bars, and it worked out.
You know, I took a lot of lessons from the Colorado, and I used them tonight, and it worked out.
You know, I did get a little bit lucky with a lot of the post, but, you know, we'll take that.
Some nights you can get lucky.
Some nights you can get unlucky.
That's just the chaotic nature of the game.
So we'll leave it there.
How do they want?
That's the end.
We have to protect him.
At all costs.
half to protect it.
Can you imagine what else would he do?
He'd be a great motivational speaker, man.
He'd be a great camp counselor.
Yes, but he'd be a great motivational speaker
who's kind of gangly and has the biggest eyes you've ever seen.
Yeah, when he said he was going to let his eyes do all the work,
I was like, yes.
Yes, you should.
Big blue laser beams.
This giant, you can see the whites on 360 degrees.
of the eye.
Yeah.
And just really lanky and kind of weird.
Yeah.
Perfect goalie.
Yeah.
He's,
I honestly,
if the flames are not going to be,
you know,
a winning team this year,
which we don't expect them to be.
At least they can be fun and entertaining
and people that you can fall in love with,
right?
And that's a guy.
If I'm a flames fan,
I would die for that guy.
Mm-hmm.
I don't even care if he gets lit up against Colorado.
If I did Flames videos and he led in a bad goal,
I'd skip it.
I'd be like, we pick it up at 5'4.
I wouldn't have the heart.
I was going to say,
my introduction to Devin Kuli is,
I don't know if it's his fiance wife or girlfriend,
but on TikTok,
she like went to go see what he was doing in his off time.
And he was just,
what he was like high level arithmetic,
just doing.
What?
Yeah, he was doing like advanced level math,
just for fun.
He just picked it up.
Yeah, he was sitting, like,
she,
filmed him in his office just sitting there with his glasses on just a computer screen just full of math equations and a big notebook.
And he's just like, just doing it for fun to pass the time.
That adds up.
Yeah.
Based on that interview, that adds up.
It adds and it multiplies.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh, geez.
I erected.
Anyway, we will be, we will be anxiously watching Devin Cooley all season long just for his interviews.
He'll be watching everything.
Yeah.
It'll be in a flow state.
watching everything.
Okay, I think that's it for today.
Yeah.
I think we did good.
Get your tickets.
