Sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where
TaskRabbit comes in and I think you should check this out because here's the deal.
One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor
to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows.
And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window, you can do that yourself.
And I'm like, well, hang on a second.
What if I don't want to?
I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals.
see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task
rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance
mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have
been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your

walk.ca hey if you're traveling over the holidays consider this saving money i like that idea how
about not spending on roaming charges how do you guys like that idea oh but it's impossible no it's
not not with saly brought to you by nord security oh yeah tell me more it's a new e-sim service app
e-sim service app say that five times fast e-sim service app e-sim no it's hard right 160 countries
eight regions with saly the e-sim you'll be connected wherever you need and here's the great
thing uh you know you get to be you don't have to like go on to like sketchy hotel or cafe wi-fi
right but if you did want to go on that it's backed by nord security so it's secure right if i gave
you infinity amount of time but no internet access could you name 160 countries
that's a great question that i shall answer at a later date yeah okay with saly you only have
to download it once it eliminates the need for users to install an e-sim in each country
affordable prices you will significantly reduce or even eliminate roaming fees by using e-sim
plans in the 160 countries and eight regions so jesse if you gave him an infinite amount of time
he would have needed 160 countries and eight regions which is you know that's tough listen
they've they've already kind of put it all together for you steve um listen here's what
we want you to do go to sailey.com dangle s-a-i-l-y dot com slash dangle get your 15 off
discount data plans with sailey s-a-i-l-y dot com slash dangle and let's start the show
S-D-P-P
The Steve Dangle Podcast
With your hosts, Steve Dangle, Adam Wilde, and Jesse Blake

And then you got your ticket to the game and ticket to the show bundles
They're available right now
What's in the thing?
What's in the thing?
Well, you can skate with us on the ice
With Beric the Bear
or you can just come to the game and come to the show
afterwards at Caesars
and a lot of messages about that
over the last few days, I know a lot of people are
making last minute holiday plans and adjusting
things and that sort of thing, I know we did have a question
about meals or something like that
how do I know?
So the pregame skate bundle, pregame skate
with Steve Dangle podcast crew
that's Steve, Adam and Jesse
for those of you who don't know
but I said it, it's better
one ticket to the Kingston Front Axe
versus sarnia sting one ticket to the live steve dangle podcast at the caesar company one meal
voucher for that night at the caesar company and one sdpn uh front neck special edition puck yeah
that's right i actually i didn't know about that i forgot i have told you that you have i mentioned
it yeah i forgot okay well you can't afford not to go you're gonna be in financial peril if you
don't go um you know it's it's uh it's gonna be a blast we always have a great time in kingston
it's a great city uh and everybody comes out which is cool so we're very excited to see you
in kingston this sunday baby this it's gonna be a long forget your skates yeah like we don't we
can't provide skates the kingston won't provide skates you got to bring your own jesse why don't
you bring your skates that's very important they also last year they did a great job like
because we skate before the game you can like store your skates somewhere yes or you can like
have them with you like to they know like you're there with skates it would be a problem yeah no
it's good yeah it's cool yeah we that's that's awesome too and then also jacob bataglia second
round pick of the calgary flames we're going to talk about in a second uh we'll be joining us on
the show to talk about what's it like to be good at hockey that's going to be my opening question
to him i would like to know can you tell us what it's like it must feel cool man when did you
realize you were like good at hockey that's honestly i think it's a good start i think it's
great question uh last night the calgary flames and the club oh never mind okay now the calgary
flames and the columbus blue jackets last night uh uh you know played each other on a date i think
everybody had kind of circled on their calendar as one that was going to be pretty uh special
um and sad but also uplifting and i think that columbus has done an amazing job honoring johnny
gaudreau uh and the calgary flames did an amazing job last night honoring johnny gaudreau and having
him as the uh first star of the game bringing his dad out on the ice um you know i think the flames
fans are also happy they got the win rasmus anderson pointing to the sky when uh when he
scored his goal i think there's um i think there's just a there's a way to do this uh and it is not
easy you know i want you to understand something here like the game ops people have a heck of a
challenge in front of them when they have to put something like that together because like it or
not the peanut gallery is now public on social media and if you don't do a good job in their eyes
um you get you catch a lot of crap for it for a while um and i just want to say that i think both
teams have done such a spectacular job honoring the memory and look at this jesse's got up on the
screen that's everybody in calgary with their phone lights up uh sean monaghan was in tears
when they dropped the puck um i don't know how he's been doing this yeah like him above everybody
else like i don't know this is now the second time he's had to play a game after this uh or
third i guess because uh there was the first game of the season um the first calgary game at home
first calgary and i don't i don't understand right it was uh it was really a really great
ceremony and one thing that they said off the top that i didn't realize at all the announcer said
in our 13th home game of the season like oh wow how like serendipitous that the 13th game of the
home game of the season is the one they're playing columbus right and and then they they had a
beautiful song um played by with the guitar and then they go into everybody gets at center ice
and it was tears like it was too much yeah yep it was it's it's a um as i said it's a really
tricky and challenging thing to do um but they did an amazing job honoring uh the legacy of
johnny gaudreau and i'm sure there will be more as the season goes on i don't know specifically
what but i think you know when you see that um it's a it's a reminder of uh you know there's
been a lot i think in the last few years in hockey that's driven us all apart and i think that
there's been reasons for that things that we had to deal with that uh for decades before we hadn't
right and it's a reminder uh that there is more that binds us than more than what pushes us apart
i think and and so um you know i'd like it for i'd like for it to not take something like this
agreed yeah yeah for us to come together yeah i agree i think that's a completely valid fair
point but you're talking about more stuff uh no disrespect to uh the wife of lord bing the 12th
governor general of canada they should probably rename the lady bing after johnny goudreau that
was a david alter idea we were talking about the other day like it makes sense yeah i don't think
lady bing right now has any relation to hockey well it's a guy who named it after his wife and
and i respect the love yeah i respect the love yeah we've renamed other trophies let's let's
rename this and johnny goudreau deserves something like this embodied what he did
exactly how he played yeah yeah like it'd be different if like if it was the the big big
bad fighters award it's like let's name that after no this is like how he played yeah sportsmanship
and not not just how he played just off the ice as well yeah how much of a family man he was
it makes it be such a great tribute and the nhl should definitely move forward with that yeah
well i wonder i wonder if that's something that they do towards the end of the year if they're
probably talking about it right now at like the award ceremony yeah do the big announcement and
stuff like that that'd be cool yeah it'd be nice to by the way if that happened i would ask the
insiders all of them to not break that story right i'd be like guys let's just not break that like i
heard what was elliot the other day on 32 thoughts was like yeah guys i'm hamstrung i can't talk
about this uh it was like something related to the force of four nations right like i can't report
this because they're trying to keep it as a surprise right and even though the the roster
is probably out there and we're going to get to it um i would want something like that to be like
an actual like don't tweet don't hint at it you don't need to scoop this do you know what i'm
saying right and i think the the bigger guys with the the the heft in the industry would probably
stay away it's the guys that are on their way up that i'm like hey or the guys that are clawing to
get back up to where they used to be the guys who are trying to break stories about the mlh yeah you
don't need you don't need this one yeah what if there's like a new hockey league and like oh man
you don't need to be first on that that'd be so crazy you don't you don't that's that's a great
point that's uh i'll mention that too consider how many slaps on the back and congratulations
you'd get if you were first for this one thing once like this one time yeah man i can't really
gonna do wonders they must be i'm gonna have to go back and check that report they gotta be playing
soon right they gotta be any day taking the ice yeah any day making so much money also all of the
guys uh millions that's so cool hey man steve you're i noticed your helicopter is covered in
snow today we had our first sort of blowing blizzard today in toronto it's one of the worst
things about having a helicopter like you gotta knock the snow off it de-ice it oh it's just
terrible it's tough you know it is tough what a burden to be me yeah no kidding hey uh so
listen there's a few things we can start with um i think we maybe start with bedard in toronto
but we can if you guys want to start elsewhere who trade no not trade no bedard played in toronto
oh now jesse was at the game and by you were at the game as well and i was at the game yeah
steve was not at the game because he's a loser that's fine yeah he's he's trying to pretend that
he doesn't make bazillions of dollars from the from the government over there but um howdy steve
uh it was it was as close to a um it's funny there were times in that game where i felt like
oh the leafs are executing super well and then there are other times where i'm like you guys
you guys know this is chicago dude it was like you're playing like this is chicago it was a it
was like a and we haven't gotten this in years past so believe me i'm not complaining but it
was like a disrespectful victory yeah they did not play their best no they were awful and they're
The Chicago is just not good at all, and Toronto just slept to a victory.
It was like an in-NHL conditioning statement for everyone,
and Blackhawks fans are not going to like that.
They weren't.
We've seen them try.
They didn't try.
Yeah, and like Arvid Soderblom last year had, I think, three wins on the season,
and two of them came against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I believe it.
And two nights ago wasn't one of those performances from last season
where he just kind of stoned on his head, and you're like,
Who is this guy?
You know, nothing was great for Chicago.
Yeah, go to the net.
Go to the net.
It was easy for the Leafs.
So my wife and I don't get to many games.
Because usually if I'm going, it's business associates like you guys.
But we went.
We had a date night.
We enjoyed it.
It was awesome.
But I didn't tell her specifically about the Arvid Soderblom stat from last year
and how good he was against the Leafs.
because i didn't want to freak her out already like more because she she watches enough now
she's watching every game she's anxious she is anxious but she was anxious from minute one
to the end oh yeah uh and so after the um after the game sorry after the first period she looks
at me she goes i don't like it i don't like it and she's she's wringing her hands like she's
holding her hands she's doing this she's doing this that's her and then yeah and and and leaning
forward and the shoulders like she's doing that and then the second period the shoulders were
even further up and she's you know whatever oh yeah and and after the game she's like listen
she's like we really got away with one okay well no well natalie now natalie is natalie is as
anxious as you are when it comes to the leafs oh maybe even more so uh it ain't the playoffs though
ah true play i'm a mess are you oh i'm a mess that's why we do the streams so we can catch it
i get nauseous before every stream and sorry he had uh five wins last year and two were against
the lead so that's a great stat great stat for us 40 percent um if there is anything to be taken
from that um that game i think it's that's so hot it's it's it's an insane stat yeah if there is
anything to be taken from that game it's first off the uh i loved the um in the tv timeout they
did a tyler bertuzzi and tj brody thank you for being here a thing and tyler bertuzzi you can
tell is one of those guys that like does not like the spotlight and so he just kind of stared at the
bench and laughed and like sort of waved his hand he hates that the games are televised i think
brody does too yeah i think he does too because he was not like he kind of raised hand but there's
no smile or anything it's just you know afterwards they were all hanging out outside of the leaf
dressing room and bertuzzi came over and uh i think i forget all of the guys but i know marner
was a part of the crew and they're all just mckay uh no i it was just bertuzzi there at the time but
i forgot all the leaves there's like four different leafs that were just hanging out with bertuzzi
so he's definitely got a lot of buddies here still in toronto was max domi down there even
though he didn't play i didn't see domi but i assume he probably would have been but i didn't
see him i wanted one of those beavis and butthead shirts of domi and bertuzzi oh yeah i love those
two together they were so fun and dumb and it was great it was silly it was a fun line yeah
with matthews um you know i think i think the other thing though that i noticed and then this
this precedes the quote that uh went viral yesterday but what i noticed was um ryan reeves
serving the last game of his suspension oh boy is still in the lineup you know you know rooting
guys on and in the tunnel um you know slapping gloves and doing all the things that you do
nothing against the rules for that no and i think i think that kind of speaks to why guys love him
so much is that he will always gas you up and get you ready whether he's playing or not um now
the he he did it the game he was he got thrown out like the the game he hit darn on the hearse
and he got kicked out of the game at the next intermission he still did the i'm high-fiving
everybody coming out of the tunnel thing friggin uh does he still do like joey release us yeah
he used to do that for uh samson of he does uh they have him on the scoreboard now doing it for
the entire crowd oh i love yeah so now i haven't been to a game in over a year so i wouldn't know
it's a fairly recent thing it's a couple a couple games old but he'll do the everybody get loud
yeah beginning of the game on the jumbotron so he's he's their team mascot no the leaf should
get fined for that he was suspended yeah no you can't use him can't use his likeness exactly
when it was the next gen game too so there was all the cartoon characters and that's what which
was odd to do on a on a monday monday yeah late yeah like i was 7 30 monday 7 30 especially
because you have an islanders game at 2 p.m on the 23rd that you could have easily put that as
the next maybe they have multiple they they do like whenever they wear the jets on the 23rd oh
Whenever they wear the jerseys at home, the Bieber ones, they do a next-gen game.
So they can do it more times.
But it was weird to just put this one here.
I didn't understand the reasoning.
I feel like it's been at least a couple years since they've had an afternoon next-gen game.
Last year, they didn't have an afternoon game at all, except for the ones in Sweden, which were at night in Sweden and also in Sweden.
yeah um no yeah they got buffalo at five coming up a couple weekends from now i don't remember
if that's home or road and yeah they got the jets on the 23rd i think that's home because
they're traveling from detroit to it looks like toronto uh from saturday to sunday that's a 22
hour that's the 22 hour split and you're right it is jets on the 23rd um at 2 p.m but still do
the do the next gen game in those slots hopefully they probably will i want the next gen game on
the 23rd because it's going to be leo's first game and i'm really oh you're going to that one
i'm really okay i'm streaming that one um so there was that but i ain't but the quote the quote
what what country i ain't country you're from man i i ain't what what's going on out there in
durham region they're teaching you how to speak probably i don't know it's just i ain't on okay
filtered access to the internet on your corncob used to people who don't speak in 1800s british
because that's his company so steve there was a guy first of all that was a crazy cough second
of all i met someone yesterday uh at a book signing and and he used the term tallest poppy
syndrome and i was like that's an sdp listener yep because only you adam and like dudes named
cornelius use that term tallest poppy wasn't that in like gladwell's book i've never read
gladwell's book yeah is that a very common thing yeah it's common that's one of the most famous
like well-selling books of the century all this poppy syndrome well it's not his creation that's
the key yeah but he wrote about it in one of the best-selling books of like the 2000s yeah but
have you ever been like jesse what we didn't what conversation have you and i ever had about malcolm
gladwell i don't know i've read that i've read his the three books the three famous ones i don't know
what the three famous ones are tipping point except for the one that's beating me currently
on the best oh that's that's the new one i haven't read that one but yeah yeah anyway well no it's
not so no it's the new one but it has tipping point in the title yeah it's a revision of
tipping point like he goes back and he talks about those things anyways besides the point
adam got a whiff of a poor and freaked out yeah well a whiff of a poor yeah exactly there's no
room for this this poor's language this peasant peasant dialect on my show sir my show named
after me wow yeah uh no i i wanted to read you the ryan reeves quote because it did the the
condensed version of it made the rounds yesterday and uh jonah siegel this is uh you know jonah
siegel is one of the reporters that wrote on it but i'm going to read from jonah's article
uh he said i play the way i play and i think the reason i've stuck around so long is i don't take
suspensions and i'm not in the box a lot i try to play within the rules of the game when uh so when
something like that happens a hit that gets away from me i don't want to see anybody laying on the
ice with a head injury obviously uh and obviously we're talking about the darnell nurse hit on
november the 16th where it very clearly he beamed him um crazy he's still not back yeah well it's
because we've barely played right um uh and and nurse said there are certain guys in the league
that every shift they go out there and they try to inflict pain i think it was pretty obvious what
was going on there reeve said nurse was entitled to his opinion and he said but i think in my 900
games i had however thousands of hits i've laid speaks for itself i play physical every game i've
been doing it for 15 years and i've only had a couple of suspensions the only truth uh that he
spoke was i was going to go out there and inflict pain that's a fact i'm not going to stop i'm going
to continue to do it legally i'm gonna keep playing hard if not harder now and keep burying
guys so he's by the way he's seven games shy of 900 and he's played over 110 in the playoffs
um and i think wow so wow is it fair to say that both sides have a point here nurse had a point
yeah ryan reeves was trying to inflict pain uh ryan reeves yeah i don't get suspended a whole
lot and i've played a lot and i've been around a long time i mean with like listen it's a bad hit
Yeah, I don't think anybody's denying that.
Do we want to hear it from Ryan Reeves?
Yes.
You want to hear the total?
Yes, we do.
I think you're entitled to your opinion, and that's fine.
But I think my 900 games and however many thousands of hits I have
speaks for itself.
I play physical every game, and I've been doing it for 15 years,
and I've only had a couple suspensions.
The only truth that he spoke was I go out there to inflict pain.
That's a fact, and that's not going to stop.
but I'm going to continue to do it legally
I'm going to keep playing hard
if not harder now
I'm going to keep bearing guys
The quote
the video and audio of the quote
is way more
harmless than
You have to watch these things
It reads horrible
It reads awful
and like
the next time he throws even a borderline
hit that's going to be
plastered everywhere so get ready for it um but like it's yeah i mean he's basically just
stating the obvious like yeah i'm ryan reeves i'm on the fourth line i hit yeah and it's a little
it's somewhat ironic that darnell nurse is like well he's just out there trying to hurt guys
what as opposed to the gentle side hugs you're trying to give dudes like hockey no but like
Last year, things weren't going well for Ryan Reeves.
Not Ryan Reeves, sorry.
Things weren't going well for Darnell Nurse,
the other guy in this equation.
In the playoffs, and it was early in the playoffs,
and it was kind of a strange narrative
because it's like, hey, the Oilers are killing everybody,
but also their highest paid defenseman
is not doing anything.
So what did he start doing?
He started hitting anything that moved.
He was a heat-seeking missile,
but he wasn't out there trying to inflict pain.
he was uh he was injured and that's why he had to just do something else because his hockey
skill wasn't yeah injure everyone else yeah yeah so like with these things when people are freaking
out about just seeing a fucking quote quote banner you know you have the the caption the picture of
ryan reeves he tries to inflict pain like the context of it is so normal and it's ryan reeves
being like yeah i'm a fourth liner yeah i'm out there to just hammer guys which is and if that's
my teammate i'm rooting for that i'm like yeah i'll fucking get up for you ryan reese because
you're out there trying to help our hockey team win in the way you can like imagine he sat there
and was like you know i'm trying to score 60 goals yeah every time i go out there i'm trying
to be alex what yeah i don't know people freaking out about the quote i was like go it's very normal
just go watch ryan reese talk about it yeah it's um it's the plague the plague of our day um we uh
we read every quote well we've of our day it's been every day i know when have we not read quotes
like what newspapers had audio sections no i used to go down i used to ride my penny farthing
to the store and uh and listen to the to the am broadcast yeah they would tell me you can't bring
that reel on the streetcar it's right um the other the other guy i wanted to point out from the from
the game monday uh was nikita grabenkin who you can tell berube really likes i really really likes
him and after the game terry koshan got this quote uh and it was if you remember after the game the
leafs kept trying to score right up until the last second and grabenkin's line was out there oh yeah
and there was a scuffle at the end guys were pushing each other taking each other's helmets
off that's the new thing in the nhl now right right once you have your helmet taken off you
gotta leave so all the guys are trying to rip each other's helmets off and grabenkin said this
game not done i play you play don't stop don't relax you play nhl you understand i kill you
you kill me it's business no problem hell yeah brother i love this guy he's got the right
attitude he like obviously i would like the puck to start going in for him but i i think we've seen
with the curious case of Nick Robertson
that you don't necessarily
have to score to impress
Craig Ruby. No, you don't.
You don't. You know, you gotta
the prerequisite
for every shift
every game you play is
work your ass off. And they
took so many nights
off last year. And
yeah, this game was the Leafs
I mean, not trying by their
new standard, but that wasn't the case
for Grebenkin. It wasn't the case
for a few guys and it's actually kind of a interesting problem for teams like if the Leafs
are beating you at the end of the game they're still going to try to score because Berube is
going to throw the kids out there right right and they're hungry as hell and they they want to pad
those stats they are on their first NHL contract they would like a better second NHL contract they
want to stay in the NHL they know the difference between all these guys know the difference between
nhl pay and ahl pay which i think is very important i'm curious to know if he's gotten
his first nhl paycheck yet well he had to have because he's he's uh he's been up for more than
a week well it's pretty good well you get paid every two weeks do you in the nhl i thought it
was every week no you got paid every i thought it was every two weeks we got what thanks alan
you know what we're doing an ask alan walsh question at the end of the question episode
at the end of the week why don't we ask him that that like he played in the ahl him and
Fraser Minton both played for like a month and every goal they score I mean for Minton he's got
his first two Grabenkin's still looking for his first um you know you're playing for your next
contract but it's not just you're thrilled for a first it's another chance to stay in the show
oh yeah just what a interesting combination of guys they have I didn't know uh the Leafs group
in training camp?
I didn't know they had this.
Well, I think, too,
sometimes it takes a new voice
to bring it out.
And in previous years,
maybe they didn't have this
because that's not what management wanted.
Right?
You have to remember,
it's like, what does the management group want?
And you had a goal from Matthew Nyes.
You had a goal from Austin Matthews.
But I think it's also Fraser Minton
and John Tavares scoring as well.
And I want to go to Fraser Minton for a second
because people were, you know,
I've been on the train of,
You need to trade for a 3C.
Drew Living has said on the record,
you know, we want Mitten in the AHL.
That's what we want.
Being up here, I don't think it's hurting him.
I think it's actually boosting his confidence.
And that was a great goal.
And Jesse, you did a great blakedown on the goal.
Can we play Grbenkin talking about his stuff?
Oh, yeah, please.
Yeah, he's a gem.
He's important, even though the game was almost over,
to still finish a hit,
even in that moment at the end of the game.
last second the game and game don't done you know yeah i stay ice you stay ice i i play you play
don't stop don't relax you play nhl you understand i i kill you you kill me it's
it's business yeah no problem god i love you oh he's also he's also talking to the fans outside
too like i think fan first network has got him a few yeah yeah he just goes and chats with the
hockey illuminati yeah he just walks out the front door he's the absolute best yeah it's kind of cool
and i love this personality and he's learning english really quickly he didn't speak english
uh before he like played for the marlies that's nuts that's a lot of english in a very short
amount of time yeah and it's it's actually like sometimes i think we we underappreciate the
language barrier as like an everything barrier when it comes to these players i i saw um a clip
and we didn't get to talk about it because i watched it in halifax and i was away and um john
tortorella explained the logic of healthy scratching matvey mitch mitchcoff and it was
basically i think his name is igor zamula who's uh who's a defenseman on the flyers i think he's
a player on the flyers and he was basically like the de facto translator and tortorella is like
well the message wasn't getting across and also zamula's game was slipping because that's not
his job his job is professional hockey player not translator and so there was value in having
mitch kov sit a few games watch and then they can have i think it was like a every week or two weeks
they sit them down and like with full translation go here's exactly what we need and since
those healthy scratches where i was like i don't really know what the flyers are doing
mitch kov's been i mean with him and celebrini it's one and two in terms of rookies in the nhl
he's been fantastic so what grabenkin is doing and what all you know players who don't speak
english at the beginning of their career is doing um it's so impressive yeah i have a new
appreciation for it yeah because it's not just the hockey the on ice part there's a whole world
and life that goes on with these guys on and off the ice and if you're if your english is slipping
and you can't understand what you're supposed to be doing that's gonna affect your game that's such
a good boy yeah um so to Fraser Minton if I can sure um Jesse I was wondering sorry is there
enough there from what you've seen like I want to I want to pump the brakes on this guy a little
bit here because the organization does not want him in the NHL right now yep they want him
developing in the AHL and I understand why be super conservative with that is there enough there
from a Chicago Blackhawks game to make you go well they don't need it it's not just the Blackhawks
so he's played five games this year yep he's got points in four of them they won all four
um the only one that they lost is the only one he didn't score in and it was the panthers
but it's the panthers and they had a depleted lineup it was depleted lineup minus two um so
you know again it's the beginning of december um that's i'm that's going to be a thing that i say
less and less obviously because you know we kept going ah it's october it's november it gets late
quick right it gets late quick and now we're already here like that that uh kind of arbitrary
cutoff point like american thanksgiving or whatever it is for the playoffs like that's
in the past now that's well in the past um i've seen enough out of him that playing him in the
nhl is fine when put it this way i haven't seen enough in five games and it's unfair to expect
this but i haven't seen enough in five games that i'd be comfortable heading into the playoffs with
this player unless there were and so many injuries and that brings me into my thing is that like
okay that's it's awesome and i'm thrilled for fraser minton but for me this guy right now
is the guy that fills in when one of your top three centers goes down in the playoffs
easily who the hell else would still means they need one yes yep and that doesn't what if he's
good enough to play three seed i mean it'd be so much better if he was just like i think he's so
much better i don't i don't that way they could go get winger help which is another thing i don't
see a problem with giving fraser mitten an extended nhl run um this is a bit unfair because almost
every minute of max domi hockey this year he was injured fraser mitten is a more effective nhl
center than domi has been in his entire career i don't know about that but like definitely this
season right so is fraser minton your best 3c option when everyone's healthy i right now i
would say yes because is it camp no camps are fourth line center he can't he can't do third
you've seen it you can't do it is it connor doer
stephen lorenz has he played a minute at center this year like
no pontus holmberg not great pontus holmberg might be the closest candidate they played him
at the center a little bit they have but like with nylander yeah you know what i mean so
holmberg makes a better winger yes yeah yeah that's i mean that's so many of these guys right
yeah um and holmberg has looked good in his role next to tavaris he's been fantastic on because
he's got a point there's a reason that he's there yes yeah yeah i don't mind at all fraser mitten
being your third line center i don't think he's there i don't think he's there yet i don't think
i don't think he's playoff there i think he'll get there okay i think it would save them a lot
of assets yeah he's got what is it four months to he's got all december january february i think
that that's putting too much on him i think it's too much pressure i think you gotta remember this
guy just left junior just left junior all right that's fine okay and you know you know what
happens to guys in the playoffs they they they literally brown adam's calling fresher minted
mentally weak no i'm not calling it no i'm saying the play is he's gonna fold in the playoff he's
calling him a little baby i just i think every time adam refers to him from now on he goes
i think you need somebody else i think you do and even if he's playing even if he's playing
you can put him on the wing for a bit in the third line adam you need to get on the milf train
all right the milf train yeah what is that man i love fraser mitten oh is that what it is
you gotta get on the milf train dude you're just dropping the m at the end
man i love fraser yeah you gotta just man i love fraser there you go which also works for the tv
show man i love fraser mitten no no that's a stretch no it's not you know what just say fraser
jesse listen he doesn't want to make it work jesse you can't make it make it work snow inside
there's snow outside the magic of christmas is in the air can't you believe in the magic of the
milf train no not until you say it correctly milf train okay sometimes life throws your curveballs

Hey, this show's brought to you by BetterHelp. Now, BetterHelp is a service we talk about often,
and it's one where we actually hear from listeners who are like, hey, it actually really worked for
and that's really exciting for us because therapy has helped all of us and one of the problems that
you've had with traditional therapy is uh usually you get sort of some like you usually get like
bankers hours right you get the it's nine to five or you know that's when the therapist is available
because they have a life too outside of that you know hey some banks are open late yeah some are
some are and better help is too and better help is one of them that's right 24 7 and the great
thing is you get to, you get to kind of pick how you want to do this. Is it face to face on, on a
FaceTime call? Is it text? Is it just a phone call? Whatever works for you, it works for better
help. And you often get matched with a therapist in 48 hours or less. And oftentimes, uh, outside
of better help, it can be weeks, right? To find somebody. Um, and it's also great because you can
be at home and cozy and cuddled under a blanket. It is like it's wintry outside right now. You
could be at home, cozy, not leaving your house, having a little bit of therapy, feeling a little
bit better and and feeling a little bit more holiday season you know you clear out all the
bad stuff you know what i'm saying like in the setting yeah you like that you're painting this
is what i want maybe turn the fire on if you have a fire i was like and if you don't have a fire put
it on the tv on on youtube it's easy there's like you can get those you know you can get that down
anyway go uh for this for this december betterhelp.com slash sdp 10 off your first month
so that's the month of december and into january betterhelp.com slash sdp
um it's worth uh yeah i'm gonna move on from the leafs unless you guys know anything else you want
to add milf uh tonight they play the predators and i'm doing a stream and you're gonna be them
streaming um are the preds gonna show up i think so yeah and i'll tell you why let me read a quote
oh oh barry trotz uh and when he feels he'll know where his team is set at this season here's the
ideal timeline this is from 1025 the game time to play the game time to play the game uh you ready
i think we have until christmas to find out if we'll be able to pull ourselves to within
punching distance if not we'll see more of our younger guys now this is a guy that already
dropped is it time to rebuild um this is like if instead of mark messier guaranteeing that the
rangers will win game six he was like i guarantee we'll win game four and i also guarantee we'll win
game five and i also guarantee how many of these does barry trotz have left where he threatens the
team through the media like slyly like just sort of he just sort of shades his team oh we're gonna
to start a rebuild okay how are they performing now oh still shit well now they have until
christmas and then that's going to turn into valentine's day and then uh what if they stink
what if they stink now toronto is where teams come to try to change the narrative on that used
to be the case well they've the leafs have made it more difficult for them to change the narrative
but like this year Jonathan Marcheseau being garbage and then coming into Toronto and scoring
two goals would do a lot Stamkos doing nothing and then coming into Toronto and doing what he
nearly always does in Toronto I think would do a lot um but boy are they down there they're way
down there and
this is
this is tough to say
based on the standings
you have to look at this game
like the Chicago game
this is four points
yeah if they stink
like the Chicago Blackhawks
win tonight against the Boston Bruins
the Toronto Maple Leafs beat
the National Predators the Blackhawks will
pass the Predators in the standings
whoa and the
awful and the Predators will be last
in the Central, and the Blackhawks will be ahead of them.
The context of that is key, because we know they've been
playing bad, but when you're like, oh, the Blackhawks
might be better. They've been bad, too!
They've been horrible! On December 4th,
the Blackhawks will be ahead of the Predators
in the State. What's the Blackhawks' record?
7-12-5?
That team stinks!
7-12-6.
7-12-6?! Yeah.
They're garbage. Boy, that's a lot of OT wins.
What's the Preds' record?
Oh, that was the Preds' record.
Oh, that was a birthday, you think?
No, the Blackhawks are 8-15-2.
So regardless, the Blackhawks currently have more wins.
Yeah, regulation wins and regular anytime wins.
You have to win.
Obviously, you don't have to win any game.
There's 82 games you lose sometimes.
It's not like the first place team goes 82-0.
But you lead your division.
Nashville's in town.
They're awful.
you should win this weekend comes back to back Washington a hungry Pittsburgh team that's
recovering a little bit yeah okay like that's that's a little that's a little tougher you have
to win this game they stink they're brutal like this isn't last year when the eh you know what
we're slipping a little we're gonna cancel a concert no this is two months a month and a half
of your one of the worst teams
in the NHL?
Here's my question.
Who is Stamkos and
Marcheseau's most common
linemate? Pretty sure it's Tommy Novak.
Okay, he's got four points.
Pretty sure it's Tommy Novak.
What I want
to find out is
who is the most common
center for Stamkos? Who is the
most common center for Marcheseau? And then I want to
go back to last year and who was the most common
center for both those guys so the most common center for Stamkos would be to Kucherov right
or Braden Point I mean right yeah well Braden Point and then probably playing a lot with Nikita
Kucherov yeah um what a downgrade right and then Marcheseau was probably playing with
like who do they have there they have Eichel they have steep or had Stevenson
uh so it's one of those William Carlson yep they got Thomas Hurdle at the end of it
yeah like and now like god bless tommy novak like what did you expect that's crazy well i think it
should be noted that that's a a an opportunity he hasn't been able to make the most of and that's
what the nhl is built on you tommy novak had the opportunity with these two guys to put himself on
a different plane yeah but there's guys who blow an opportunity and there's guys who should have
maybe never gotten it in the first place like i look at it like um it'd be like if we were like
why does pontus holmberg only have four points right why isn't pontus holmberg carrying the
second line right now yeah as their second line center like here's i don't know what you expect
something worth mentioning philip tomasino since being traded to the pittsburgh penguins has two
goals three points in four games you let the penguins fleece you i told you dubas is good
of trades man he's he's good at a project those ones it in 11 games with the preds he had an
assist dude so is it fabbro's been uh good yeah but the team overall stinks as in terms of scoring
you know like that's the whole reason they're not winning is they can't score at five on five
which is wild because brunette's panthers could score well yeah so you got to think it's something
to do with the personnel and that the that's that's the only reason they're this bad it's
five on five scoring because they they trail um i think it's detroit who's second last in five on
five scoring they don't have centers and they're behind them by like in extreme yeah so nashville's
last at five on five scoring with 29 goals this year in detroit is second last with 36 oh my god
like it's not even that they're bad they're like bad by a country mile they're last in goals total
overall and their penalty kill is number one in the league their safe percentage is like middle
of the pack it's it's just simply goal scoring that this team can't do yeah crazy their penalty
kill is number number one nobody stops penalties better than the nashville predators i also want
to throw out there ryan o'reilly who is their number one center has 14 points in 25 games and
it's important it's important to point out that he had 69 and 82 last year well so here let's
let's talk about that then so 14 points in 25 games good or bad for your number one center
not good yeah not good he's third in scoring second among forwards so behind Forsberg and
that's it and Yossi yeah Forsberg well in terms of forwards yeah Forsberg that's it
and Yossi who on the Nashville Predators is supposed to score this this was the criticism
uh I sort of looked at when they signed O'Reilly in the first place it could listen it's a good
contract like oh yeah for them um but I remember looking at their center depth and going
he's your number one though like i don't think he was supposed to be though i don't think he
was forever supposed to be he was supposed to be an attitude guy that helped them reset they
they did not go into last year you cannot tell me still that they went into last year going
we're a lock for the playoffs yeah they happened to make the playoffs and they went on that crazy
run i i feel like he can be your number one center if there's support behind him because
He's a capable offensive player, but he's a defense guy.
He's a two-way guy.
He's not meant to carry this burden.
His career high in points in a season was last year.
Yeah, because he was playing way up.
But before that, 58, 54, 61.
Oh, sorry, he did have a 77-point year with the Blues when they won the Cup.
61, 55, 60, 55, 64, 20.
This is not a guy that is a point-of-game guy, but he brought other things.
really really that's that's good but that's it's there aren't many teams with a number one center
like that right um and if they have a number one center like that like think jonathan taves with
the blackhawks like this is an extreme example um he was a very very good offensive player and
he had some very very good offensive seasons most seasons though like season in season out
I mean he wasn't blowing the doors off offensively he was just sort of a nightmare at both ends of
the ice and he was supported by guys behind him O'Reilly again like I hate to pick on Tommy Novak
because I don't know what we expected out of Tommy Novak but like who's behind him I'm looking at
their hockey db which uh like for their positions I know isn't the greatest like who's the next
highest scoring center. Stamkos.
Okay, well, that's a problem because he's not a center.
Gustav Nyquist. Okay, well,
that's a problem because we know he's not a center.
Like, Yusuf Parsonen? It's Svechkov
and, at least according to the latest,
and Colton Sissons. So what the hell are
they doing down the middle? Who down the middle
is supposed to generate offense?
Well, see, Tommy Novak had
45 points in 71 games last
year, and he now has four in 19.
Okay. So you can see how
he might have some offensive
kick to work with those guys.
Marcheseau and Stamkos and I wonder
if it comes down to the systems that they're playing
are they are they bad or
is it a system that a systems issue
uh well it's the same one
as last year though yeah but they're not
the same players this year I know
yeah I don't know to me it just seems
like there's no I
think it's clear there's no finish there and
I don't know if you can create a
different system to
help these players finish their shots
you know because they're they're getting
enough scoring chances the high danger scoring chances they're towards the bottom but like they
have the same amount of high danger scoring chances as minnesota who's the first in the nhl
so i don't i don't i think i think they can manage with like the 20th amount of scoring chances it's
just that the shooting percentage is at 5.37 percent so as a team at five on five for the
whole year is this a team primed for a regression there is going to be some regression because
you're not going to shoot 5.37 all year unless they're all just progression progression no
regression to the mean adam hates that progress shut up because they're moving forward it's hot
you guys are using that wording correctly i i think they'll they'll definitely climb back up
to where a real nhl team should be but it's not going to be that significant because there's
something wrong with the personnel and how they finish their chances and they're not they're not
good enough to do that to clean up my tommy novak slander adam you brought up the 45 points he had
in 71 games last year he had 43 points the year before in 51 games so they had every right to
think hey this would probably work they gave a shot to so they i guess they looked at their roster
and they went all right we're gonna go cheaper here because we can because we have this option
and it's it's failed it's failed brutally but can you put that on him when they're shooting
percent who's expected to shoot Stamkos, Marcheseau, Forsberg, yeah yeah so maybe that
isn't the problem that Stamkos and Marcheseau have combined for 11 goals oh yeah they can't
score at five on five and i assume the 96.1 pdo is gonna climb up a little but also i think it
just might be the guys who can't score and you just might sit here all season because you have
the wrong people trying to score they don't have a double digit goal scorer yet which is crazy
because they have philip forsberg well they know they have two stamp coast and marsh or so i think
Yeah, combined.
I think now it's just on Barry Choss to make a decision about,
like, hey, we know the roster can't score.
You've had enough time.
Make a decision in either direction of who you're going to bring in
to change up things.
Yes, Adam.
I have a question for the class.
Okay.
Jesse, Steve.
Is it possible that Barry put himself in a bad position here
by being the general manager?
And what I mean by that is maybe...
Adam, we're not talking about the Penguins.
maybe like with kyle's case you've graduated from head coach you've graduated from general manager
don't take on the responsibility of being a general manager let someone else do it advise
them come up with team plans on it but you can you know barry's got to be the fall guy now he's
the guy that's got to talk to 102.5 the game you know i think he likes being gm this said yeah but
is he good at it better not age like milk when oh it will beat the leafs fucking nine two again
yeah the only way they're saying that age is like milk listen they got to win some games i'm not
saying that they should beat the leafs but like they're gonna win games for me it's it's if they
pull a st louis and in january all of a sudden they're good and they win the cup yeah but like
i for them to turn that around like okay who's scoring who's who's creating that five on five
scoring I don't think like I don't expect Stamkos to be satisfied with them losing one thing you'd
like out of signing a player like that beyond the offense that he brings is a better attitude
frankly is he helping anyone I've only it's like I can't judge that off of a one clip I saw I don't
know I don't follow Nashville that close it's the media so it's different like I'm sure he's not as
much of a storm cloud with the guys in the room but like boy he seems miserable i would be too
if i'm losing of course and like o'reilly we know can be susceptible to that like in buffalo where
he's like oh yeah what was it like i lost my joy for the game or something i would too if i if i
was playing on that buffalo team yeah well this is the thing last year they found it things were
not going great in nashville and they found it uh so how the hell do they find it again
uh barry's pushing all the buttons and he's not they are not pushing the right buttons because
they have a lot of draft capital i mentioned this last episode they have three first round draft
picks and five million dollars in cap space you need five odd five score you if you think your
team is good use all of that those assets which 31 other nhl teams don't have because nobody's in
that luxury position that you're in where you're doing a half rebuild but also kind of good last
season and you've accumulated all this assets use it to go make your team good now what are you
doing something interesting happened last night like i don't think the preds did terribly in the
eustis and uh trade they got a young goalie they got a six round pick all right fine the guy you
traded who everyone was like oh have you seen his numbers this year he's budgewood yeah he made 22
saves on 22 shots in a comeback win um in relief yesterday one of your forgive dude everyone who
leaves nashville three guys have left nashville this season and early returns are awesome well
and that's something that used to happen to the well it has happened to the buffalo sabers
consistently they leave and everybody gets better and the lease let's be honest yeah that's a little
bit of that too nah not not much so much lately i'm okay with how kerfoot and hall have performed
since being here um yeah and cadre too to be honest yeah i think i'm okay with it hey man
remember he got suspended in his first playoff round with the colorado avalanches first playoff
run but let's not forget that i know they want a cup i know they want a cup but the the thing that
we had to get rid of Nazem Khadri for,
he did the next year.
So let's
not forget that stuff. I love Naz
and I love, by the way, that people are like,
oh yeah, definitely the Leafs have kicked
tires on Khadri.
No, they haven't. Don Maloney
will never let that happen. They're
not going to give Treleving a win.
He's not coming to Toronto. Adam,
you know, Khadri was behind me on the
bestsellers list last week and why you got to kick
him off? Wow, that's true. I'm sure
i'm sure that's what he cares about he's really beat up with wedgwood it's it's one game but it's
not a great look it's not a great look no you're like uh it's it's just one game it's fine but also
you left here and you were successful it's not a great look dante fabbro this guy can't do anything
does things immediately philip camasino this guy can't do anything does things immediately yeah
wedgwood this guy can't do anything does things immediately things are rotten in nashville
I'd like to talk a little bit too
about
hold on I'm just pulling it up here
the Jets
the Jets
at one point were like
18 and 1
it was stupid it was insane
they were really really really good
they've now lost 4 straight
no yes they have
they've lost 4 straight
I can't help but notice
the Jets
started
Not being immortal anymore.
The moment I picked up Neil Pionk in fantasy.
It's probably your fault.
And here's the thing.
The Jets had a crazy start.
They're now 18 and eight.
But in their last 10, they're three and seven.
Oh, shit.
And guess who's not in first in the central anymore?
You're kidding.
The Minnesota Wild with Kirill Kaprizov's overtime winner last night.
Pass them.
18 and eight isn't good enough for the division lead.
The Wild are 17, four and four.
and they've played one less game than the jets wow wow the wild are good caprizov is uh he's
leaving the nhl in goals i think he's got 16 he was quietly putting on a heart bid um no he's
being quite loud about it now um he's uh he has to be the front runner oh yeah absolutely that guy's
on fire um and so you know it makes that quote of remember i don't know if it was him directly
but there was something this summer about hey the wild really want to keep caprizov
and then uh the report i forget who it was from said well if you know the he's going to have to
see what the wild do for him as in like how what kind of a team they build around him uh he's
holding up his end of the bargain he's got 39 points uh sorry he is not leading the nhl he's
tied for third uh behind uh leon dry sidle and sam reinhardt cole caulfield and brayden point
also have 16 goals i think he must have got past last night then because i thought i saw him in
first that's what i thought too okay maybe maybe the nhl i'm going to nhl.com for stats oh no you
know what it is because they i think they display goals first they i think they changed it recently
how they display the leaders and i kind of hate it oh well then i don't fucking know what's wrong
no i think sam reinhardt's at first i saw first two but maybe sam scored a few i don't know no
idea uh i don't know yeah i don't have those guys in fantasy i don't know uh um uh but i think it's
a i think it's kind of amazing what this guy's been able to do um i'm just looking at it yeah
16 goals so he's tied for third he's tied for first in points that's it um that's it the 39
he's also got he's tied for seventh in assists this guy's a monster yeah yeah dude crazy good
players they're getting goaltending they're getting everything did you see the middleton um post
post game interview last night i heard it was good oh i'm gonna try to well i can't so here's
the problem what we're able to access is sort of like you can do press conferences but if it's an
interview in game you can't do it right no no they're definitely not yeah middleton i i here's
what i'll say here's your homework look it up we can't run it it's so funny it's good he's just i
I mean, they're feeling great, man.
Yeah.
And they pass the Jets, and that has to feel really good
considering the start the Jets had.
Now, for the Jets, the question always was,
hey, this is great, good for them.
Sure.
But in an NHL season, and we've seen this happen before,
doth your team peak too early?
18-8 now.
Okay.
It's an interesting argument because if you look at their record
since the 15-1 start, so that'd be around November 13 onwards,
If I look at the league from November 13th onwards,
the Jets have the second worst record in the entire league.
They've had six points in that span,
which is tied for 31st with the Senators,
who also had six points in that span.
And the Blackhawks are the only team with less points
since November 13th.
Wow.
So, yeah, you definitely don't want to peak early.
You want a little spread out.
You don't want to go through these dips.
But what's crazy is they could go 500 the rest of the season
and make the playoffs.
Yeah.
Yeah, but the Leafs did to start when they did their 10-0 start.
Everybody's like, oh, they were 10-0-1-0.
That's crazy.
What you don't remember is that they went 500 the rest of the year
and were very mediocre.
You're talking about 93-94.
I think it was, is it 93-94?
Yeah, that was the second.
I think it actually was 94-95.
It was the second straight conference final.
I think it was 94-95 because it was out of the lockout.
I'm pretty sure.
The Leafs started the season with a 10-game winning streak in 93-94.
Oh, there you go.
The Vancouver Conference.
so listen winnipeg could go all the way to the conference final hot damn who are we to judge
i mean yeah bank those points and then lick your wounds like i'm trying to think like do they have
a major injury do they have a minor injury you know mark scheifele it looks looks like is gonna
make team canada um i mean they were also scoring at such a preposterous clip that seemed unsustainable
yep everything was going in didn't they have like a 60 percent power play yep something stupid like
that leafs ruin their season so one of the things that uh is difficult for people especially big
booty people like myself big legs big booty it's from years of playing hockey uh is getting pants
that fit properly yes it can be a real pain uh and that's why i want to recommend doer to you
If you haven't ordered Dewar's yet, now is the time.
They're the jeans that I wear.
We worked with them before.
And what's amazing about these is they can be worn all year long.
And they've got stretch performance denim.
So you can perform.
And be in denim and look great.
And they're committed to sustainability.
And this is a key thing for Dewar because in the world of fast fashion, there are a lot of environmental issues.
there are also issues with like oh i washed these and now i can't wear them anymore because they
are poorly whatever doer is all about their slow fashion they're so they are their fashion that
lasts and they use recycled materials and plant-based fibers wherever possible for natural
breathability softness and moisture absorption important for a guy like me who's sweating adam
cut to the chase what is it do you personally put them in the freezer i don't have to do it as much
but yes they do okay yeah you don't have to do it as much because again it's it's the the fibers in
it these are well made i would say you don't have to do it at all yeah or you can just do it me as
a normal jesse and i as normals we don't need to freeze our jeans no well and you don't need to
freeze your doer you have you have a choice okay i'm just saying check out doers flagship stores

now when we talk about the four nations rosters um they're gonna they're coming out today yep
we're gonna know what they are i'm pretty sure tsn has it yeah canada canada's already out we
can do canada yeah we didn't hide anything tsn leaked it they made a graphic it's up
we can do bring it up all right so i'll read it out here uh first line reinhardt mcdavid
marner oh my god they should they should put projected in quotes uh second line marshan
Crosby, McKinnon, the all-Cole Harbor
line, basically. Third line,
Hagel, Point, Mark Stone, the
I'm-going-to-take-the-puck-away-from-you line. And the
fourth line is just missiles.
Bennett, Sorelli, Konechny,
and Seth Jarvis
makes it as the fifth center. That's
former Leaf first-round pick.
Not really. I'm going to cry.
Seth Jarvis. Now,
CJ said it perfectly on Insider
Trading yesterday on TSN.
Taze, Makar, you don't have to think
too much Theodore Petrangelo you don't
have to think too much they're great pairings boy
to St. Louis they've got to just
regret giving up on Petrangelo they should
have just paid the guy why
they have Colton Pareko
also on the team Morrissey Pareko and
then of course if you've been watching Philadelphia Flyers
Twitter a little
bit Travis Sanheim it was kind of revealed that
he was going to make the team as well as Torts read
that out a couple of days ago
at practice in net
Joey Decord did not get his passport
in time it's going to be Bennington Hill
and Sam Montembeau.
So, heavens to Bethany.
Just one thing.
The second line,
how dare you disrespect Hammond's Plains, Nova Scotia.
Which is right near there.
Where Brad Marchand is from.
I've been to Hammond's Plains many times
and it's not that far from Coal Harbor.
Yes, it is not the Coal Harbor line,
Brad Marchand, Hammond's Plains.
Okay.
Still part of the HRM,
the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Everybody know your stuff.
I think it's cool that there's an all Nova Scotia line.
And I think it's kind of cool that they're a bit older.
it's those guys are a bit grizzled you know um i would like to say about aiden hill who i assume
is going to be the starter i hope he is um his save percentage is only 900 um which is meh it's
fine it's about league average these days win win loss loss win win win win ot loss loss win win
loss win ot loss win win that dude wins a shitload uh you know you can win a cup with him
And he's going to be playing behind, at least in part, basically his Vegas top pair.
I think he'll be okay.
I think he'll be okay.
I'd rather Joey Decord.
I don't love that trio of goalies.
Also, I feel like with these tournaments, it's easy to get blinded by the goalies.
worst case you're playing two guys and two guys that have won a cup yeah that's true and
they both have won cups that's true i think it's important one of them is getting
somewhat distant in the past but it's there like um the olympics with canada
it was broder and luongo broder was sort of the starter then he was bad and they went let's go
with Luongo and then they won the cup with Luongo the third guy wears a collared shirt yeah like
it's like Ed Belfort when he was with with team Ken it's like thanks for being here and Marc-Andre
Fleury and yeah like congrats it's cool and all that but like I'm not gonna let I saw some people
like Sam Montembeau I'm not gonna let that it's it's Bennington and Hill and maybe that doesn't
make you feel great either. There are going to be people
that criticize or whatever. I still
think it would have been good for
Tanev to be on this roster, just the way he's played.
But I get
parade. There's nobody there. You're like
now that they don't belong. The one
thing I want to point out to you guys. First
off, Patrick Laine scored in his return last night
to Montreal. He will be on Team Finland.
That was really cool.
A player who is currently
tied for third in the NHL with Kaprizov
and Braden Point in goals. Cole Caulfield
will not be on team usa it's looking like that's crazy that's like stamco's getting left off 2010
like he was i think he might have been the leading nhl goal scorer or he was one that's i i'm not
taking off any of the players who are making team usa for caulfield really kachuk matthews kachuk
connor eichel hughes boldy besser crider like no not that graphic many i'm just reading off some
of the projected lines like i don't see any of those forwards uh getting kicked off for caulfield
boldy maybe maybe that's just projected who knows you know but wait who's the gm for team usa is it
bill garren yes ah never mind oh yeah maybe take boldy off nope nope and that's no disrespect to
boldy he's crazy yeah they have a really really good team uh yeah yeah it looks like uh bill
garen is the is the guy so that's why i thought i'm like when i saw colton preko i'm like that's
a doug armstrong pick if i've ever seen one well and like that probably thought might be jt miller
who i didn't mention yeah you know like one they're so deep they are deep on paper usa's
got to be one canada too there's three uh tampa forwards on canada who's the coach
john cooper sure yeah no this i mean uh hockey canada is kind of notorious for this but like
they love their guys the good news is they're pretty good i'm pretty excited for marner mcdavid
hell yeah like when yeah it would be really cool like when mcdavid comes here in a year and a half
it's hip it's good to get a little preview right of what it's going to be like playing with marner
yeah yeah that's gonna be electric yeah is mitch marner gonna be alone on a breakaway with a
defenseman behind him and then pass the puck to the defenseman that was really funny is he gonna
do that at the four nations tournament okay and then be like yeah sorry guys i can't even hate
on mitch he's tried that since junior and it's always worked yeah i can hate on it in that in
that game that was the first time i've seen it not work i've seen it steve he's gotta shoot
oh yeah at the entire section i was in where people were like some guys stood up was like
god damn it mitchell shoot the fuck he called him mitchell yeah yeah he was like he was like a it
was like a bad angry dad it was not his dad what is the list of people who call him mitchell
well because i think i think everybody knows he's got such great hands like you are one-on-one with
the goalie what are the chances your pass is better than whatever deke you have i know he's
an unbelievable shift i don't know what you're doing i love that that happened why because he's
a crazy player who he might mess around and get like a like a heart nomination and he wasn't
shooting then he started shooting austin comes back and i can't help but notice that he passed
it on a breakaway i don't think it was too awesome i don't remember who it was it wasn't um
and that's just a reminder mitch you're crazy you're one of the best players in the league
it's a contract year shoot the fucking puck yeah yeah that's all that's all i have no criticisms
with his game this season yep great player i picked him in fantasy for a reason i knew he
was going to go off here he is top 10 in points there you go weird so we'll get the full rosters
later on today so that's why you're not going to see like a crazy breakdown i don't i think
caulfield being left off just with the stats that he's put up is hard but jesse makes a good point
when you see who they're bringing you gotta go i'd still rather have chris crider over caulfield
especially in that role yeah right in the role that crider will play exactly yeah i got that
still rather have jt miller i still rather have eichel what what else do you want to say to piss
off montreal today jesse uh he didn't make team canada because he's bad
do you hold on do you want the haves to take a step and that to be controversial
i still don't understand why i got in trouble for that i think because they were pretty
jacked for the season um yeah yeah because they should have been why because you want them to
they were going to take a step right i still don't understand that no suzuki's obviously a
great player um uh lining coming back is huge for them it was nice to see him get that moment
yesterday who's the third best team finland or sweden
i'm gonna go with sweden um it's probably deeper headman carlson forzling ekholm daline
anderson's pretty damn good that's insane yeah oh and we l in there too yeah
oh my god like up front too they're gonna be sick but then you're like heiskanen ristalinen
Lindell, Mikkola, Hakenpah, Yokiharu.
I'm sorry, that's not as good.
It's not as good.
It's not as good.
It's not as good.
It's still good.
It's still good.
The second name you listed was Ristolainen.
Yeah, yeah.
Let's calm down.
Heiskanen, I'm like, oh.
Oh.
No, no, not the same.
Really good.
Really good.
Really good.
Sweden with Philip Gustafsson,
and that might mess around and win the whole thing.
Well, and Philip Gustafsson, I think,
is leading the league in what, GAA in save percentage?
He's been unbelievable.
Wow.
Yeah, he's probably beaten now.
Markstrom's probably the backup, right?
Oh.
Or maybe Markstrom gets the start?
It has to be based on your current play.
Gustafsson should get the start based on current play.
This is a huge thing with these tournaments.
Politics play such a big role.
And they so often, at least Canada, Russia's really bad at this too,
but they're not in this tournament, is they revert to the veteran.
right kids be damned not that philip gustafson's a kid but they go to the they go to the guy who
has greater seniority in the program canada does that what's gustafson doesn't have a good
track record playing for sweden i'm not saying that i'm saying the other guys markstrom right
and he's been starting for them since the world juniors yeah yeah that's fair um and then that
that first line for sweden like we might see uh pedersen nylander forsberg or something fun you
know that'd be cool uh worth mentioning too and i forgot to bring this up tage thompson could be
left off team usa as well that's a tricky one he's a very good player very good is it because
he was hurt maybe because he was hurt yeah well i mean do you want to play center or wing i don't
care because if you want to play center you're kind of stacked right yeah the margins are
are i mean these are the best players in the world but but who means some of the best players
in the world are going to get left who will make it in his place are trochek crider and brock nelson
trochek makes me raise my eyebrows a bit just especially based on his play this year i love
vinny trochek if you stick eichel in the middle then then it's that's they're not really competing
for the same spot like ikel's gonna be on the team and he might be a winger but if you're sticking
ikel in the middle and you're going something like matthews ikel uh larkin you know you're
kind of moving tage out if you wanted him as a center and then trochak or or uh larkin's gonna
love this by the way because he's gonna play on a team and actually have like teammates up to his
level that's that's gonna be crazy for him like imagine he's gonna be like i get me out of detroit
now please that team is just so depressing but like he's great he's he's electric man i love
really really good player uh i i would think like a spot like that is kind of tage's spot right
if you want if you're taking a fourth line center or third line i guess it's larkin spot and you're
not bumping larkin out for tage this is such a boring way to think but like who out of those
guys kills penalties like i know matthews does does larkin does eichel i bet eichel could yo
Well, of course they could.
Tate has 13 goals and 20 points in 20 games.
Shit.
Like, come on.
Vinny Trocek has 10 points, man.
There's a good argument for Tate making the team,
not like the argument for Caulfield.
Yeah.
USA probably has the most stacked roster going,
and their best line is going to get left at home.
Yeah.
Like, Tate, Thompson, Cole, Caulfield, and like, I don't know,
maybe maybe jt miller if he doesn't end up going yeah yeah dude that's a crazy there i totally see
tage tage could get one of those spots you know i think miller will be there yeah it's so long
from now too yeah well he'll be back he answers your penalty kill question uh yeah yeah also with
injuries injuries are gonna happen caulfield probably might be on the steam that's that's
the awkward part in all this is the tournament isn't for a month and month and a half two months
like yeah nearly two months two months yeah guys are going to get hurt and you're only allowed to
bring a roster of 23 but you can change the roster up until the day before the tournament
so the day before the tournament you can make a decision it's like oh matthew chuck broke his leg
coffee i'll get here you know so that's going to be an interesting conversation for a few guys as
well because if canada experiences an injury oh okay well you know uh you're not too far away
if team usa has an injury okay well you're not too far away if i'm one of the bubble guys on
sweden or finland we're taking like almost two weeks off i want to go home sure but like you
wouldn't have left yet do i gotta fly from europe like no like no you like you wouldn't have left
because you can tell them like the sunday right so you wouldn't have left if you have a game on
saturday like you're not leaving north america immediately after your game saturday night
why not i i don't if you're on the bubble for the team i don't think it'd be realistic to be like
i'm out of the country i just well it's just i think there's going to be multiple players who
are told hey you're not on the team also please don't go anywhere fun because we need you if this
if this tournament included russia i could see ovechkin being like you know what i'm a little
injured these two weeks i want these two weeks off so i can go do what i want and regroup like
how we skipped the all-star game last year i think it's yeah he skips things for a different
reason than he used to yeah he used to like very obviously to go have the best time yeah
now he's an old man with a family and he needs rest and if we're giving him two weeks off in
the middle of the season where you can go chase gretzky's record he might want those two weeks
thought can i also throw something out there keep an eye on all the russian players when this
tournament's done because geopolitics or not they're going to be furious that they were not
allowed to play in this tournament and how about the reigning world champion checks a hundred percent
and i just feel like those guys so we'll say the russians and the checks are going to come back
and be like okay we're going to kill you all now oh you had fun at your little tournament
welcome back like radko gudas that first game back who's he gonna hurt uh he was he not the
captain of the team that won last year an assistant or something captain of the ducks
cap yeah he was like one of the leaders on the check team too uh i don't know if the ducks won
any gold medals the checks did man radko won them you had like the entire globe of names
and you said radko gudas man he was a killer in that tournament last year
in the spring this year excuse me you might literally be a killer i know that's what i'm
saying is ovi any of these guys oh he's a fridge he's a fridge with skates you could have just
said kirill kaprizov yeah no he wasn't and they're gonna give him a two they're gonna give
kaprizov sorry man i know you've been working hard so here's a two-week break to you know cure
whatever ails you like that's pretty sweet no we need radko gudas who might hit five well i don't
I don't think Kuprizov's going to kill anyone.
Malkin might.
There's a name.
Kucherov might.
There's another name.
Psychotic.
Oh, there we go.
Now we're cooking with gas.
Let's go, Adam.
Good recovery.
Let's go, kid.
All right.
The captain on the Czech Republic team that was the world champions last spring was Roman
Servenka.
Oh, and he just retired.
Not Radko Gutis, who is an assistant captain.
Zervanka of Calgary Flames fame.
Yes.
Worth bringing up, Jake McCabe will not play tonight.
Says he's still not feeling right.
Okay.
Also, Preds stink.
Yeah, fair enough.
So, like, if this was the playoffs, I think he'd be playing.
Yeah, yeah.
They stink.
Yeah.
Sorry.
Do you have anything else to add on Four Nations, guys?
i think it will be exciting hockey and i can't wait to watch i didn't like really on when was
it last last national or local leafs game that was on sportsnet they went to the first intermission
and they led it with four nations roster uh speculation and predictions when obviously
they have the tournament so they're hyping it up and they went to an intermission of a game and
didn't talk about the game the first segment of the intermission i thought that was very annoying
by sportsnet like i get you own the broadcast rights to the game and you're using the first
don't put the camera on me maddie you're using the first intermission of a lease game to sell
this product but it's a little disrespectful to the fans to not do content about the game in the
first segment out of the intermission and use it as an ad sell for the tournament that you have
the broadcast rights to i thought it was annoying okay here's a question when do you do it the
second segment the second this because the they they did the first segment out of out of the
intermission they they went to their four nation segment they're like hey do you think tom wilson's
gonna be on the team what do you think blah blah and then they go to break and they come back out
of the break and they talked about the leafs game yeah that first segment should have been for the
leafs game the second segment should have been your ad sell for the tournament that you have
what about the pre-game too yeah but they're talking about the pre-game they're trying to
maximize the eyeballs right then so yeah they're the kings of this they're the kings of this there
are hockey night in canada seasons they don't do this anymore that we went through where they
wouldn't talk about and it could be like a montreal game a toronto game and a winnipeg game all
happening at the same time they're playing different opponents and they wouldn't show a
single highlight from any of them in the first intermission because they were too busy talking
about whatever the hell they were talking about i think we're i think we have different complaints
I think it goes back to the same issue, which is target properly, guys.
Come on.
And also, you could split a segment into two.
Hey, let's do two minutes on the Leafs and two minutes on Team Canada,
and we'll go back to our 17 minutes of commercials in the intermission.
I think their actual commercial break is 14 of a total 17 minutes.
So they got three minutes to talk.
14 minutes of that is commercials.
Make it a minute and a half.
Give me something.
This is why I get so annoyed that the Leafs don't have a local broadcast crew.
Fucking drives me crazy.
hey no toronto sports network yeah right okay yeah well toronto sports network actually does
do regional games no i know so so does sports net like on uh on a sunday or whatever but they
still forget it those are those are local games yeah i like when kipper and mourner are there
because they actually like hey yeah we watch oh they talk about the leafs all the time it's great
good for them chucking grenades at me are you yeah why are you you don't work there used to work
yeah oh yeah well i used to work there too yeah talking about yeah for like five seconds
i hate to say this but of the three of us jesse bro jesse worked on the biggest show
he sure did and and uh they let him work on like stuff that made it to tv right rarely
higher percentage of the time than i yeah oh i was a annoying child who
had his clips played and then ignored
coming out of them.
Two in five Canadians will hear

create a world free from the fear
of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca i had a question about the the buffalo sabers what do you
say gentlemen as a team fans of a team local enough to buffalo our team is local enough to
buffalo sure uh that regularly gave up big fat leads uh what do you say to the fans who saw a
four nothing lead slip away last night at home at home uh what do you say to them because
georgiev was just so bad and then when that first tage thompson goal went in i was like
hell yeah baby my fantasy team is going to the moon sucks to suck is what you say to them it was
four nothing get good boo and hiss oh it's so nice to have this not happen to my team for a change
although it did almost literally happen the other night yeah leafs almost blew and regularly has
throughout their recent history but uh i just i need to send an apology okay from sdpn okay
what's the apology well a lot of sabers fans had the worst night of their lives last night
why well you might think the sabers losing a four nothing lead at home blowing a four nothing lead
at home to colorado and losing the game is bad what if i tell you it gets worse how could it get
worse producer drew was at the game oh and i think anyone sitting within half a mile of him
probably had the worst night of their lives he was miserable last night he cannot stand for giev
he that's what he calls him and sure enough he allows four goals on eight shots
It's just brutal out there.
Drives all the way to Buffalo.
They're down 3-0 in five minutes.
He's pissed.
I'm sure the weather was bad.
He was there with a couple friends, too.
Drew has friends.
It's the weirdest thing.
I know.
I don't understand it.
And then he was ripping on Sabres fans because five and a half minutes to go in the game.
It's a one-goal game.
They're leaving.
Yeah.
Dude.
That must have been the worst night of their friggin' lives.
And they got booed off the ice.
Yeah, they should have.
They blew a 4-0 lead at home.
Like, I don't care if you're in first place.
I paid to be in the building tonight,
and you humiliated the crest.
You wasted my time and money,
and I'm going to go home miserable.
Thanks for nothing.
Boo.
I think it's worth mentioning.
Last night was a bigger game for Buffalo.
And again, it's early in the season
to be talking about standings,
but it was a bigger game for Buffalo
Because Buffalo, at one point, was ahead of the Boston Bruins.
Yeah, they played themselves into a very good position early on in the standings.
They did.
And last night, if they had won that game, which I think it's fair to say they should have,
they would be tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for fourth in the division.
Tampa would have the edge because they played one less game.
But now, that loss means that Tampa's played two less games, and they have two more points.
And the points percentage is 5-6-5 versus 4-80.
Is Boston still ahead of both Tampa and Buffalo?
in points percentage they are not oh okay uh but in points currently real points yes three three
points up oh way yeah the bruins are still only five four and one in their last 10 but you have
to remember tampa's not five three and two and buffalo are five four five and one so they're
none of them are you know taking the world by storm we're like a panthers win away from
the leafs being uh slated to play the bruins in the playoffs again yeah fuck off good point
Fuck off! Go away!
Enough! The Sabres
lost. It hit so hard because
they went on that like a week
and a half ago. They go on the West Coast
road trip that all the Eastern Conference teams gotta
go through. You gotta go LA, Anaheim,
then San Jose. And they
sweep it. And it's like, holy
shit. The Sabres, we
might have been wrong about the Sabres, and
they're looking good. And since that
road trip, they haven't won a
game. They're 0-4,
four-game losing streak, and you
cap it off with this and all of that momentum's gone like you you're riding high and now in your
last seven you're three and four they're streaky it's it's crazy remember to start the season we
were like oh shit like these guys are gonna contend for last yeah because they went over to
the the global series game and they got smoked and by the devils twice but i kept looking at
them and i'm like they shouldn't be this bad they shouldn't be this bad and then
they were pretty good for like a few weeks there and i was like vindication this is awesome and
they're right back to being bad yeah um dude stop it i i think i think we need to to re-evaluate
something that has become a crutch uh in hockey discourse scoring goals is the hardest thing to do
it's actually become a lot easier in recent years and most teams around the nhl
are not sitting there saying to themselves uh if only we could score nashville yeah that's nashville
but i think most bad teams are sitting there going we can't catch a cold all right we need
to stop the damn puck why was colorado down for nothing because they their starting goalie is
currently unusable they're starting goalie scott wedgwood it's not georgia um buffalo can't hold
on to a four nothing lead like you go down the list there are like the leafs are so blessed by
whatever you believe him to have two guys like stolers and wall it's unbelievable like what a
luxury i'm pretty sure joseph wall is going for his fifth or sixth straight win tonight if he's
playing this stat like I couldn't believe this stat so Joey Decord won again last night yeah
for the Seattle Kraken that brings him up to 11 6 and 1 on the season heading into last night
he was 10 6 and 1 which is a 101 point pace that would put the Kraken comfortably in the playoffs
probably in a top three pacific spot Philip Grubauer is 1 and 7 with like a sub 870 save
percentage which is a 20.5 point pace wow so it's the difference between a team comfortably
making the playoffs and by far the worst team of all time so like it's so hard like even if you
have one it's not enough yeah yeah sometimes so with with the sabers and after that loss
i think it's been enough time and we all know it should have happened a little bit ago but
kevin adams needs to lose his job this team is a team with one player in their starting lineup
above the age of 32 you built a team of children oh you got you got jason zucker there with a bunch
of children who don't know how to win or lose and you had to get rid of jeff skinner and spent none
of that money and he's sitting on this this this five million dollars in cash space and he this
offseason you went out you did nothing with it and you got a team who when they win they don't
know how to win when they lose they don't know how to lose they're just kind of playing as it goes
and there's nothing here in terms of a solid roster that's gonna do anything ever and kevin
has had enough time to build a competent team and what he's done he's just throwing a bunch
of kids together and he says go out and figure it out and that's not success in the nhl world
and if you're gonna have a young team the most important thing is development they are fumbling
Devin Levi so freaking they don't know how to develop anything they're fumbling like I'm so
I'm looking at him right now I believe he was a net for all that last night he has an 896 safe
percentage is that good no no wasn't it Luke it was it was UPL was it yeah UPL started last night
I thought it was Levi okay well anyway it factors into their season
896 is that good it's a little below league average that's his safe percentage in the AHL
In the NHL, he's 870.
He's two and five.
You're killing this kid.
You're killing this kid.
Let him marinate.
Let him.
The Calgary Flames.
Look how good Dustin Wolf has been.
Got him in fantasy.
We barely saw the kid.
Yeah.
No, we didn't see him at all.
We barely saw the kid.
And he was winning like goaltender of the year in the NHL.
Leave him.
Yeah.
Leave him.
I don't know if like his Reimer hurt.
UPL was the starter last night.
I thought it was Levi.
Levi's not even on the team right now, I'm pretty sure.
It's UPL and Reimer, because Reimer was starting the other night.
And yeah, I'm pretty sure Levi's not on the roster.
Okay, well, he's played seven games this season.
So, sorry, my mistake.
I thought he played last night.
No, no.
So they're actually doing the right thing by reclaiming Reimer off waivers from the Ducks,
who they lost to the Ducks.
They're doing the right thing there.
well in that case upl is an unbelievable goalie and that's holy shit that's terrible oh yeah
but like tuck was talking at the in the scrum afterwards about how horseshit the loss was and
everything and he's he's like we left him out to dry we thought they were gonna go in a hole
and turtle after being down for nothing the avalanche and he goes on in the court he's like
they're stanley cup champions like they're gonna compete all the time it's like yeah why were you
shocked that nathan mckinnon didn't give up with 40 minutes left to play of course you left your
goalie out to dry you guys are shit how can i can i add to this just quickly and then continue
sure uh the sabers have canceled practice today and will not have media availability good
good here's my question what percent of nhl players
watch less hockey than
most fans you thought the avalanche were gonna
you thought nathan mckinnon was gonna be like well we'll try next time with 40 minutes left
to play what's the matter with you what are you talking about yeah this is all they've this is all
they've done for like a year and a half the comebacks yes this is their they might be the
best comeback team in the league what are you talking about yeah it's whatever you had in that
first 20 it's like you're a team who's proven nothing who's done nothing you have to have the
ultimate compete level against a team that's won the stanley cup yes yes how dare you yes um but
Yeah, I go back to they have Ottawa Senator Syndrome, you know?
They have the same thing we talked about, the sentence where it's you're too young down in the middle,
except they're young everywhere.
Everywhere.
And there's no real urgency to bring in pieces that make them immediately good now.
They didn't do it this offseason.
And right now, they're probably like, you know what?
We're still young.
We're in rebuild mode.
And it's like, take a step here with your roster.
And that's the GM's problem about not putting together something that's competent and doesn't give up these four goal leads in December.
And there's another team with the Sens who they can score.
Get the puck out of the net.
Yeah.
Every goalie that goes there dies.
Ah!
It's really, really hard to keep the puck out of your net these days.
Man, I wonder what's going on in Buffalo.
It might be nothing.
we cancelling a practice in a media veil is certainly there might be fragility on the team
well it led to didn't that happen the day jim montgomery got fired in boston yeah i want to
say the rangers did something like this recently but i think it was just it was like late question
for you buffalo has a lot of media that follow it sabers fans are deeply engaged are they the
real nhl or are they in the leafs montreal sector of the nhl well it's not real buffalo's real nhl
i think they might be insulted by that yeah because real nhl is like new jersey according
to shelton keith well right yeah so and i think buffalo's got some pretty hardcore not the jersey
fans are hardcore they're pretty hardcore but i'm like is you know what we need a metric right we
need a scale of what's real yeah like where do people care maybe give me a market where no one
gives a shit sabers fans have you ever thought that maybe your uh patronage and love and passion
for your team is why they stink i don't know they made it too hard for them multiple winning nhl
coaches have suggested as much they don't want you to spend money or go to the games or be loud
or be around them you poor i would like every nhl fan watching this video right now to look at this
look at the right side of the screen of the of the by saber by seasons wikipedia page of the
buffalo sabers since 2011 2012 this team has not made the playoffs they are in absolute misery and
if you go to the other columns too and you look at where they finished in the division or they
haven't been close they haven't been close at all in all of these years and it's too long
for them to just sit here with this general manager
who keeps them middling.
Kevin Adams took over in the 2020 season.
From Botterill, right?
Was it Botterill?
Because Tim Murray was before.
Dude, they had so much turnover.
Yeah, Tim Murray.
So many guys.
But June 2020 is when he took over.
And since then, it's been nothing.
Hasn't moved forward.
You like the young players.
They were kind of good in 23 when you're like,
okay, they could take another step.
and wasn't good enough to get in the playoffs,
and they're not doing anything this year either.
So here, can you bring that back up?
Yeah.
Because, okay, eighth, and you go up to fifth.
That's good, right?
That's a step.
40 wins.
You crossed the 40-win mark for the first time
in what looks like over a decade.
Yep.
You can't even – where's the last one?
That's a step forward.
Last year, okay, they got three fewer wins.
They finished further back in the standings.
But you go from 300 goals against to 244.
So you righted the ship in that direction.
The problem is you scored 50 fewer goals.
They can't put it together.
No.
They just, they keep taking steps in like one department and just like, dude, 91 points, 84 points.
Like you're a hot week away from, I mean, hot week away, 91, like comfortably being in the playoffs.
84 like you're you're there you're there don't blow it up hold on hold and oh boy i i don't think
if you're if you're gm sitting there and just like i'm gonna throw a bunch of 24 year olds
and just put them all together and you know eventually they're gonna be good that's not a
good strategy you do that you build a hockey team but but maybe they called people and everybody was
like i don't think so and that's that's part of what happens like even the leafs had that problem
like brad richards was like yeah no thanks i don't want to be there and there was a bunch of
other guys that turned the leafs down back that because they were so dysfunctional and poorly run
why would you commit years of your career in brad richards case the best years of his career
uh well in in theory i don't think they ended up working out that way after signing that he went to
the stanley cup final steven samco so he's coming to the leafs he didn't goes to multiple stanley
cup finals and wins a couple i think you just you you know if you're going after those vets that
you're talking about jess it's like what kind of vets you're gonna get are you gonna you're gonna
pay taylor hall six million bucks he's already done the buffalo thing but you know you're gonna
go play felino four million bucks like that's the kind of that's what you have to spend to get them
to come when your team stinks unless they're already under contract i don't think they stink
i they're too good also they're not i'm gonna say something here and it's not gonna make me
popular with the older sabers writers uh are we are we fully convinced lindy's not past due
oh they they made such a a cito gaston hire yes and i'm like yo and and the media some of the
older guys in the media not all the media the media wanted it they were like lindy's mark guy
that's the guy that's the glory days yo lindy's glory days were a quarter century ago most most
and he had hoshek yeah he had the best goalie of his generation sorry wabro der anybody else
Hasek was the best one he was stupid and he had the best goalie of the entire era in the dead
puck era it's a very different era it's possibly he it was possible he was the best goalie ever
I agree with you completely on that might have there's best career there's most clutch and then
there's uh uh best peak and I think Hasek's best peak who hired Lindy Ruff Kevin Adams
man well and and so if if kevin adams goes jesse that's my so here's here's my question like who's
out there because they you know there's only 40 gms in the world oh they're gonna go and recycle
someone yeah especially the pagulas i know they're they're they're the ones known for going off the
thing but they've gone off the mark with murray with botterill and now kevin adams like guys that
were not extremely experienced in that role you have to think they're gonna want to go experienced
in that role who you got who's out there yarmo kekalainen so like who you got so how about this
what if kevin adams has done a good job at taking them to a certain level a specific thing yep which
he has i'm gonna make them younger i'm gonna get them some firepower paturka's great oh paturka's
great you know uh and by the way tage and paturka have both been injured in the first two months of
this season yep which sucks i mean tage was injured last year too yes he was i'm gonna set
them up for the future with this defenseman this defenseman this defenseman what if he's done his
job and uh now they need someone else to come in and have a look under the hood who's it gonna be
is it gonna be to the next step like ray shiro like how where are we going here who's who's
available and and what do you like how you say with trades that's not my job go that's you always
say like oh who are they gonna trade for how they're gonna get that's not my job that's not
my job yeah go out find a good gm they're they're they're they're uh how many people eight billion
people on earth i'm sure one of them could run the buffalo sabers in a competent way lou lamorello
there you go i'm kidding uh but i'm looking at the i just want to look at the sabers uh
puckpedia page for a second here i was i want to know how many draft picks they have same spot adam
so they're not overloaded with draft picks although they have all of them this year they
have two fourths and three sevenths but they have all of their picks for the next three years
damn so the question becomes do you trust kevin adams to make that trade he made a good one i
wasn't the one that made the trade for uh no he didn't make the tage the ryan o'reilly tage deal
which worked out pretty good he did the eichel deal and i worked out pretty good after a while
but yeah well the tage deal did the eichel deal has worked out okay but again go back and watch
the amazon documentary where they talk about eichel if kevin adams had just been like okay
hey, man, get the surgery.
Eichel would still be there.
Eichel, by the way, like it's still...
And he went and won a cup.
He went and won a cup.
Eichel did have a piss-poor attitude
in the time before he left.
So did Ryan O'Reilly.
What?
Because his neck hurt.
So did Ryan O'Reilly.
I hate it.
Isn't it crazy?
The top two centers from five, six years ago
both went on to win cups with their next team.
Isn't that crazy?
Doesn't that say something?
uh i don't and not only cup one of them got a con smith too i don't want to do this do it um
so the trade was uh jack eichel traded from the buffalo sabers with a conditional
uh third round pick in 2023 who is matthew cataford uh to vegas golden knights for peyton
Krebs who like has seven points in 24
games cool Alex Tuck who's great yeah
love Alex um and then 2022 first round
pick Noah Ostland who's got a goal in
six games in the American League and
Riley height who was actually doing
crazy in the WHL oh and he was a pick of
the Minnesota Wild so like he wasn't
even that's not even who made that trade um the outcome of that trade has not been great
tuck's good yeah man michael's better yeah it's you need to you need to hit on the futures
and the crazy part about it is if michael is on that team they're in the playoffs last year
and what do they have with tage's year jesse can you bring up their wikipedia page again
oh uh when tage went off yeah 91 points they had not tell me i wouldn't have been worth an
extra couple of wins there that would have got them across
the line it's it's
it's um it's
a saga that it didn't need to
end the way it ended
and like uh tyler
johnson got that surgery
um who else got that surgery there's another player
like uh uh
chelios i'm pretty sure got it in retirement
wasn't wasn't he telling us that
uh at the easter seals tournament
i was he i don't remember but
i mean retirement's different from playing in the
yeah i guess but um put it this way you never know until it actually happens and that was the
whole sticking point with that surgery is no nhl player had ever got it he got it and the sabers
decision could not have gone worse exactly for them yeah the 22 23 season where the sabers had
the 91 points they finished uh one point out of the playoffs if you remember that season that's
where the Panthers snuck in at eighth
and they did the thing that the Panthers do
that 23 season.
And the Leafs could have played the Sabres.
Damn.
Or the Bruins.
But like the Penguins also finished one point.
We see how the Penguins have gone.
They're on the precipice
and then the next season,
they weren't as close, obviously,
but a large part of it was their good run
at the end of the season
that got them back into it.
But that's very Buffalo Sabres hockey
to play really well when you're out of it.
The forfeiture of his job should come down to the outcome of the Eichel trade.
I know the Sabres fans won't want to hear that.
But if you look at how it's played out, general manager's job, fairly or unfairly, is to see into the future.
That is the job.
The job is to go, this will help us in the future.
That's why I'm doing it.
Not easy to do.
That's why there's only 32 jobs.
Forfeiture of your job right there.
And, you know, hiring Lindy Ruff, I know that there's a lot of people that have a ton of respect for Lindy Ruff.
And I get that.
And there were key injuries to the Devils last year
that prevented Lindy from being great in that role.
But the Devils, even with their injuries last year
and their shitty goaltending, should have been better.
That's why he's gone.
And I think when this...
It's not if this happens.
This change is going to happen.
Keep playing like you are.
You're going to be fired.
um it will be ticking ticking clock on lindy ruff at that point and and because god there well yeah
but the next coach is gonna the next gm is gonna come in and go that's not my guy no yeah the next
guy has to fire lindy ruff sabers fans need to pay attention to history you got to chant fire
lindy so that the team starts playing unreal and wins the division yeah yeah um by the way that uh
that second rounder from the eichel trade that i was just talking about it was like oh wait a sec
they didn't even make that pick they traded it to minnesota for uh jordan greenway who's got
three goals three assists and six points in 16 games this season last season in 67 games he had
10 goals uh 18 assists 28 points wow wow okay well two and five canadians will hear the words

audio side i'll at least hear it there's no way it won't get flagged we'll see um because it
happened it happened on msg i'll probably get flagged but i'll just play it for the audio side
of it um absolutely ridiculous and then after you can summarize it for the uh youtube audience sure
Alongside Steve Aliquette, I'm John Giannone.
The Devils scored in less than 90 seconds.
They scored again about six minutes later,
and, boy, it felt like it could have been four or five the way they attacked.
Well, it really was an extension of what we've seen recently
against Carolina, Philadelphia, and Edmonton, all very good rush teams.
The Devils are one of the top three rush teams in the league,
and you knew it was going to happen, which is I'm sort of surprised it did happen, John,
because it's only 30 seconds in, and there's an odd man rush,
and then a two-on-one where Bratt scores.
And I'm surprised the Rangers were diving in for offense
when they should have just played against the goaltender in front of the net.
Two breakaways in the period, and this is the one I don't like.
I don't like that because Hughes set out to embarrass Shusterkin there
by slowing down and going to one hand.
And that should send a shockwave to everybody on the bench.
I know in my day that Colt Moore would have been hanging over the bench banging his stick saying
I'm coming after you because you tried to embarrass us and that's blatant disrespect and
I'm sort of surprised I didn't see a response from the team that way. Is that how you read it? I'm
interested to hear more about that like what did you read about that body language or that moment
because maybe it was he just knows that Igor is really good on breakaways and didn't want to shoot
right away. No he's had success against Igor playing them straight up and I thought he slowed
down. He wanted to put a fancy move on. It was more Instagram hockey than intense hockey. There
wasn't much of a back check, so that allowed him to do it. But I'm looking at him going like this
and doing what, in a practice, a goalie would get mad at a teammate for doing, saying that would
never happen in a game. When was the last time you saw somebody one-hand score like the Forsberg
move? In a game. Not a shootout, but in a game. And I think that the Rangers should be upset about
that. Well, Igor Shesterkin has allowed
seven first-period goals.
It stinks in here! Let me recap.
With the way that man filled up
his diaper. Let me just
recap it. So, if it gets flagged,
essentially, Steve Valliquette, who's doing the
intermission for the Rangers, said that... Former NHL
goalie. Former NHL goalie said that
Jack Hughes tried to embarrass Igor Shesterkin
and that was wrong because he did a one-handed
a deke that went
forehand to backhand to one-handed and
it didn't go in, but
that he tried to embarrass the other team's goalie.
And for me, for me, A, that's the point.
B, this is how pro athletes function.
It doesn't make sense, which is why I don't understand why they're on TV all the time.
Jack Hughes has swagger.
Pro athletes intentionally, we all saw the Michael Jordan documentary,
intentionally take things as a slight to get them mad, to get them playing harder.
So that doesn't surprise me so much, but that's bad analysis.
Yeah.
So I understand from a player perspective,
former player, whatever.
But Jack Eichel's job is to,
oh, I'm sorry,
is New Jersey supposed to take it easy
on New York at Madison Square Garden?
When they're down?
So I think he had a point he was trying to make.
No, he didn't.
No, no, no, give me a sec.
No, he didn't.
He had a point he was trying to make
and he made it so shit.
What was the point he was trying to make?
He made it so shitty.
So what I think he was trying to do,
no, okay, he owns some of this.
he owned some of this he focused too much on jack hughes okay and making it it it came off as whiny
and why would he do that when came across it was what i know what he seemed to be trying to say but
he didn't put nearly enough emphasis on it is rangers what the hell you're letting this guy
walk all over you and showboat and show you up and like he even like mentioned it sort of in
passing like oh yeah they didn't even back
check and that allowed them to do it
I would have you know back in my day
Colton Orr who's super not in the NHL
right now like would have been hanging
over the bench saying I'm gonna get you
Jack Hughes no Colton Orr
totally just fighting Jack Hughes
everybody would let that happen you know
Colton Orr grabbing like
170 pound children like he always
did what are you talking about
um the
you could have easily been like
look at this move here's how shitty the rangers were playing like jack hughes is out there to
embarrass you and you should be embarrassed for the effort that like there's a steve dangle
this team is ruining my life rant oh yeah in there about the rangers and he executed real bad
yeah no i i appreciate you trying to give steve the other steve there some some leeway in his
explanation and the reason you were able to break it down like that and the angle you should have
taken is because you're good at your what you're doing well i'm good i'm good at criticizing my
shitty team in that moment steve valiquette awful why are you on tv it's bad you're shitting your
diaper you're being a giant baby about the rangers losing get off as somebody somebody who can
explain it like how you did should be in that position what the hell was that well i didn't
play in the nhl i didn't oh yeah so you can never get one of those jobs i didn't have one of the
coolest masks ever he had very cool it was like a spider-man mask i liked it very much
i still remember it that's how much of a sick puppy i am i remember steve valican's mask
but um yeah no i he was going for something there and i don't think he was executed it
really really he wasn't going for anything no he was being a baby no he yes he was and i agree
for different reasons than you think.
So he was going for,
here's what the Rangers were doing,
and it was embarrassing that the Rangers were doing it,
but he was too mad at Jack Hughes
and being too much of a baby about what Jack Hughes did
to articulate it properly.
Yeah, but the thing about being on TV
is you need to articulate it properly.
You know, it's funny how your entire job is talking on TV
when you're talking on TV.
And this is the first time I've seen Steve Valaket on TV,
but that's not the clip you want going viral, dude.
No!
That ain't it.
What the hell was that?
Man, good player makes otherworldly player.
I don't know why you're trying so hard.
I get why Valaket feels that way.
That's what athletes do.
They're not, they don't make sense.
Tom Brady, oh, we've gone 16-0,
but everybody doubted us nobody doubted you tom no but he needed he needed to feel that way i uh
can i tell a funny story like i actually have a steve alicant story um so are you buddies with
him no you're defending himself no he loves you i feel like this is a good story jesse no no no
like i mean i mean it so i mean how how often have i ever been like hey there's an obscure backup
from the mid-2000s that I'd like to talk about.
So the Leafs played a game against the New York Rangers
in like one of my first seasons of Alifar.
It might have been my first.
Okay.
And it went to a shootout.
Steve Valliquette was the goalie.
And Jason Blake, when he was on the Leafs,
had a shootout attempt against him.
I can't remember what I said.
And it wasn't even criticizing Steve Valliquette.
I was just like, here's what I saw on that goal or non-goal.
I don't even remember if it went in.
And someone went into the comment section,
like 2007 YouTube comments, the frigging trenches.
And they lit me up like a Christmas tree.
And they were so pissed.
And you don't know what you're talking about.
You never played the game.
And Steve Vallecat's my cousin.
Oh, no.
Really?
I was like, oh, jeez, Steve Vallecat's cousin's really upset with me right now.
Fast forward a few months later.
Oh, no.
And that same person reaches out to me.
Oh, buddy, buddy, hey.
Because they had gotten hired as an intern at the Fan 590 where I was an intern.
Really?
They were like, hey, we're interns together now.
I never ended up seeing them.
oh unfortunately because they got the internship and then i think they didn't take it
oh but it was so face-to-face awkward oh well i had to tell a few people it was like hey so
this this person who sent me all this we're co-workers wow that's amazing it was really
really awkward i love that yeah i love that steve valicat there you go now you're well listen
I bet he's watching today
and I bet you're going to get a message
and you never broadcasted the game
watch what you freaking say to people
online you've never been to the Lexus studio
I've learned that lesson the hard way too
many times watch your mouth
watch your mouth
cousin no apologies
for his performance no we're almost
two hours in oh are we really
we'll see you on Friday
anything to add
front necks
uh kingston kingston front next on sunday and ottawa on saturday i'm gonna be doing a book
signing there oh yeah pinecrest the steve dangle podcast follow the guys on twitter
