Hello, hello. Can everybody hear me? All right. So listen, this is going to be a live recording
of the Steve Dangle podcast. We are so thrilled to have you here at Boston Pizza.
and of course i want to say before we get started here a big shout out to the wait staff who've
been dropping all the food and drinks and everything it'll be working hard all night
so shout out to you guys thank you so much for all the hard work let's give them a round of applause
um uh it's so good to be here in bowmanville a couple of you have come up to us and said uh
sorry you go you go ahead the manville that's right how dare you uh it's so good to be here
with you and here's the way it works because i don't expect that a lot of people have been
to a podcast recording before the way i always like to set it up is you know sometimes we've
walked into these and it's like a poetry recital and people like doing their claps that i want to
hear you if you like something cheer for it if you don't like something boo all right no we gotta do
we gotta do the example so we gotta let them all right all right all right all right act like
somebody scored a goal or we said we said something really funny i got one i got one
William Nylander's in the lineup.
All right.
Brad Martian.
Hey.
How about them Habs?
There are some Habs fans here tonight.
There's a couple.
That was for you.
What do you think about producer Drew?
Boo.
I'm booing him, too.
I think we're getting too many boos.
Hey, who likes hockey?
All right.
All right.
Now, I got to tell you, it's funny.
When I went around every table, or as many as I could,
and I asked you guys, how are you feeling about the Leafs tonight?
And universally, the reaction is what?
Eh.
So welcome to group therapy, everybody.
So listen, I guess we're started, right?
Are we done?
Well, we are underway.
Are we underway?
Okay, so here's what I want to ask you first.
How do we feel about this?
We do have William Nylander back
Nick Robertson is in the lineup
As far as we know
The people sitting
TJ Brody is also back in the lineup
Everyone got mustard
On their table
And then we got
Lilligren and Dewar sitting
How are we feeling about it guys
The way I was
Feeling when it was announced is
If I'm Timothy Lilligren I ask for
a trade immediately mid-series but apparently he's not a hundred percent healthy um and i mean
it's worse there are worse situations than to have tj brody as your seventh guy i still hate him on
the right um but he you know whatever he's been battling physically mentally any of that hopefully
the last week or week and a half whatever he's had off did him some good and he shot out of a
cannon as soon as the game starts as for connor doer getting out of the lineup no that's kind of
dumb i don't really have a justification for that i believe the idea is you swap robertson's
offense for what do relax on offense and that's more important than the penalty killing that do
or provide well and like you know what penalty killing like it sucks anyway yeah um and uh you
know a lot of a lot of people are kind of missing the point with robertson like oh how's he gonna
get a goal in a line with ryan reeves well the answer is he's probably not um but he'll be used
on the second power play uh if you want in a pinch you can use them on Tavares's line you
can throw them with Matthews for just just some fun just some fun um so you do get it he's going
to be a little bit more of a utility player I do get it also they're down 2-1 and I reserve the
right to be grumpy about it so there you go hey you need to lose three to win in seven that's
right that's right nobody liked that joke jesse no but we've had too many games seven yeah we
told you to win in seven you can boo him it's okay say it again say you gotta lose three to
win in seven you gotta lose three to win in seven and you earned it i guess i don't know i i'm it's
funny i'm very zen about this series i woke up this morning yeah and my wife looked at me and
She's like, how are you feeling about tonight?
And I was like, I hadn't even thought about tonight.
I was just looking out my window, just pondering life.
I hate people like you.
No thoughts in that brain.
I have not been.
Yeah, no, I was empty-headed, as you would expect from a guy like me.
Waffles, looking outside, just like, is there a squirrel?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I hate normal, well-adjusted people.
Well, how did you feel waking up?
Because it's not fair.
Existential dread every morning.
Like, what are you talking about?
It's April.
That's how I feel.
That's how I feel every morning when I wake up.
does it help when it's because it's it's been a rainy gloomy sort of day does it make it worse
of course okay yeah no it's way more depressing and then and then you know what happens is uh
writers have started screwing with everyone in in attempts to be journalistically um thorough
because they'll be like william nylander is not on the ice and we all go and they go with the
extras which is normal which means he's probably playing and we all go like it's just they're just
toying with our emotions and that's like 11 o'clock this game is at eight it's like nine
hours of just a heart attack and then the game starts you know what i mean it's i always say
waiting in line is worse than being on the ride but then you have to be on the ride
and it's different types of fear it's just different types of fear i'm surprised you
didn't say ordering food is the worst yeah that's your biggest fear anybody else here have that fear
where you you don't like to order food because you're too nervous to talk to the people who do
take the order i think he's the only person i've ever met who's like that i think the reason so
many people said no is because they're at boston pizza and there's a very friendly atmosphere that's
right that's right so so we've got that going we know what the lineup's going to look like we know
what they need to do what they need to do is what when when yeah but how do you win two things
score goals get a saves that's right what do you want to start with what do you want to start with
what i want to start with is how leafs nation after all of this trauma hasn't made everything
more complicated they've actually boiled it down like we used to be like no what they got to do
and we're like drawn on a chalkboard like a like a mad scientist like the cia in the 80s yeah and
now it's finally gone back to score more goals than the other guys and they're back to basics
score some goals have a decent power play get a goalie who goalies um that's really what it comes
down to and stop taking penalties but it's game four so there probably won't be any we're now
We're now halfway through. Full playoff
ref mode, which has been good.
Well, has it? I mean, okay.
So I watched. I'm doing the
Vancouver streams right now. I'm sorry.
Because
guys, 12 shots
on goal. It's so boring.
12 shots on goal and
they won. Yeah.
I wanted to die last night. I'm not gonna
lie. It was pretty bad.
And Nashville, like
they're bad. Like they're really bad.
They had 32 shots and one goal
But they're making Vancouver
Do this
And I'm trying to figure out what I want more
Do I want a boring series where we win
We
I said we
For the Canucks
No I meant we for Toronto
I was talking about the Leafs
Can the Leafs make it boring tonight
Is my point
Can they make it boring and win
Because here's the problem
Whenever the Leafs get a little down
what do they do they open up the game they cheat to offense and then the puck goes north south
and you're freaked out the entire time it's exciting but then oftentimes you're like wow
we didn't come out on top of that what would you prefer what do you need from the Leafs tonight in
that in that regard if they give us a boring game I won't feel ripped off like I've had enough
excitement to last a lifetime like just give me a win just give me a win that's all I want I don't
care if it's one nothing I don't care if it's seven six it will make me a little bit closer
to dying but i will be alive again if they could just make it 2-2 after tonight heading back to
boss jesse i don't know if william nylander returning to the lineup is gonna calm them
or make them even more energized like his presence is calming obviously he's not going to be affected
from it but like everybody around him is matthew's gonna try and do so much more because now willie's
out there and they're like oh we can go get some offense and then everything's chaos or does his
calming presence calm the whole team i don't know it's it's such a weird thing because you also
it's the playoffs you have absolutely no idea what percentage of a player you're getting
the lightning are up three nothing on florida as we're recording this and they might have
30 of mikhail sergachev i can't believe he's playing i can't and also it's the most believable
thing i think i've ever seen right it's the playoffs everybody's out there out of their
minds. So it's 3-0
Tampa right now over Florida. Would anybody
be surprised if Florida came back and won it?
Not in the slightest. No.
But if it was the Leafs down 3-0,
what would you say?
You would
say what you said in the front row there.
That was wild. How does
Nylander affect the game tonight?
I think they can finally do some breakouts. One of the
things that I got to give,
and you guys are going to boo me here. I'm cool with it.
I got to give Vancouver credit for this.
I know. I know.
They're good at getting out of their own zone, and I'm finding it very frustrating watching Quinn Hughes and Phil Roenick and these guys grab the puck, turn around and go, and getting it to their forwards with clean, crisp passes.
Now, they get stopped up in the neutral zone, don't get me wrong, but they're out of the defensive zone quickly.
What drives me nuts about the Leafs right now is they are so blasé about moving out of the zone.
We're going to let you guys get set up on defense.
Don't worry.
Take your time.
Okay, now we're going to attack.
are you ready for us or you're not ready don't don't worry we'll back pass it it drives me up
the wall and that's the thing that willie doesn't do willie's like okay my puck let's go and the
bruins are such nuisances uh in the neutral zone with their sticks and also there's been a thousand
board battles a thousand and it's not that willie avoids them depends which uncle you ask sure um
it's that you'll be able to it the whole team will be able to instead of chipping it in they'll be
able to carry it in with purpose and ideally have a shot on that diver jeremy swayman yo man i didn't
know how bad of a dive it was until you brought up that angle and i've been watching it all day
today and it gets funnier each time it's like he's falling out of an airplane the way he goes
you guys know what we're talking about right the domey the domey swayman collision where swayman
forgot how to skate.
Brutal.
That's right.
That's right.
It was brutal.
It was brutal.
That guy is so pissed.
It was brutal.
You're right.
Did you know that
Carter Verhage used to be a Leaf?
I didn't know that
Carter Verhage used to be a Leaf.
Well, he just scored.
That's great.
Good for him.
I get to the blue and white.
I mean, what?
So the next thing I want to ask is,
or I want to say is,
as much as it's doom and gloom
because we're Leaf fans
and we have battle scars,
We do have a Nordiques fan, an Ottawa Senators fan.
Oshawa Generals fan right here.
Let's go, Jennings!
Yeah, no Pete's fans decided to show up tonight.
No, that's not true.
That's not true.
Or are you a Pete's fan?
Get out of here.
Sitting right next to each other.
Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight.
But I want to say that the existential dread thing is reasonable.
However, I don't think Boston's been spectacular.
i don't think they've been that good no and and that's the thing that i think we need to feel
good about the other thing is i look at past history i was saying this to jesse in the car
jesse has a different slant on this but usually when toronto's down one they bring the effort
and they tie the series up if they're up one you know they're not winning the game but when they're
when they're down one i feel like toronto's gonna like this is game four is a good game for toronto
maple leafs fans i think and i told adam that he has it all wrong the classic way toronto's gonna
to do this is you go down 3-1
and then you start competing
you tie it 3-3
and then you may be losing game 7
here's why it's going to be different
boo this man
boo this man I like mine better
that would be much more Toronto Maple Leafs than your
theory of them just winning
that's ridiculous
hey no I think what they got to do tonight is
win
that's why you
that would be awesome
when has that ever happened
like uh once last year and then never again so here's how it's going to work hilariously though
what did joe bowen talk about last game that got everyone all fired up the fans
weren't loud enough if sheldon keith has a brain cell in that skull william nylander is in the
starting lineup
tonight and the
place goes nuts
absolutely nuts now
just there's a really big caveat
here don't get scored on
on that opening shift but have
the place go nuts and not
only is William Nylander going to be in the building
to have the place go nuts
someone else is in the building
tonight who's that I got Intel
I got an Instagram DM here
we go dark sources are saying
Sources are saying, you know who, when we were talking about Leaf fans, regular fans, not being able to go to a game in a big group, I talked about the Matthews guys.
Yeah.
The guys who wear M-A-T-T.
Yeah, yeah.
Turns out they're listeners, and they will, in fact, be in the building for game four.
That is breaking news.
Yo, there better be tarps off there.
Matthews better be on their chest.
again if the in arena entertainment whatever staff has a brain cell in their skull show them
place goes nuts tarps off play the scotiabank arena needs a new roof right it's just over
it's just you did also just seven one advocate for pontus holmberg to start
because that's the willy line hell yeah hell yeah so we're getting fire me up pontus what
We're getting Holmberg, Nylander, and who's going to be on that line?
Yarn Crook.
Yarn Crook.
Trey Croner line, Jesse.
That's your bag.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Sweets.
Sweets.
Sweets.
Sweets.
Sweets.
Don Cherry would hate that, I just want to say.
Even better.
Let's go.
And we got a Boria patch right there.
Oh, yeah.
On the Tavares jersey.
You'll love to see that.
Yellow, where you guys drove from for the show?
From Windsor.
Windsor.
Oh, my gosh.
to Bowmanville. Wow. Anybody beat that? Anybody beat Windsor?
Can anybody beat Windsor today? No. No. Hell yeah. You win.
You win. You know, it was funny. Somebody came up to me
just a few minutes ago, and they're like, I just can't believe that you came to Bowmanville.
I know. And I'm like, I can't believe you're surprised by that. Why wouldn't we be in
Bowmanville? It's the best here. Come on. Yeah.
Too many of you are acting like we drove to Saskatoon.
Well, I think, I guess the understanding I have is that us, and I don't include you in
this because you're Durham region, my friend, all the way through that jet city slick Oshawa.
I'm not even from there anymore.
Who here is from Oshawa?
Yell out, yell out.
I need you to yell out because we're recording something.
So when you put your hand up, people are not going to be able to hear it.
Okay.
Oshawa yell out for me.
All right.
Ajax yell out for me.
Newcastle, yell out for me
Yeah, we got a new guy
You're the first person I've ever met from Newcastle
Wow
It was always explained to me that Bowmanville
And Newcastle, it's like Newcastle
Shelbyville, right? That's how it's always been
Oh, you're from Newcastle, oh, I don't know
I don't know
Turnip juice
Turnip juice
Okay, so the
the the boston bruins i want to talk about a little bit jeremy swayman is breaking the on again
off again streak for the boston bruins uh it was swayman and olmark for 20 plus games every other
game but jeremy swayman got the win so jeremy swayman is in for game four how do you solve
this guy he's six oh and oh against the leafs in his last six starts his job's been a little too
easy eh like uh like i don't really think he's had to make crazy saves the bruins are blocking
uh everything this is part of the reason why um i think it's going to be huge having willie back
because so many of the leafs uh offensive uh zone opportunities are slow like they're slow
they're chipped out of the corner they got a battle and they're exhausted by the time they
even get a shot if they can open the game up a little bit more um willie's also a good net front
guy if they can just make things a little bit more difficult for everyone involved um it's going to
be big now another thing that i think will be interesting to contend with i think i want to
see a leaf dive in the first period we've been like dive and sell the call dive and sell a call
on swayman because he is maybe the most abusive goalie in the nhl low key like you look at him
and you're like oh you know that guy he's such a teddy bear and he is he's a lovely gentleman no
he's not not right now no not right now he's not we hate him no when i when i saw him in vegas he
was wearing a tan sorry henderson when i saw him in nevada yeah he didn't go to vegas he went to
henderson yeah and henderson he was wearing a tan suit what kind of guy does that let's cover that
on the news for months at a time uh but he loves like he went to the tim thomas school of blockers
right to the back. Like that guy really brutalizes guys in front because they don't have Char or
McQuaid or any of those guys anymore. I think more chances with speed and he'll have a difficult time
keeping up. Two in five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer. That's why every step
and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret
Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in
support of life-saving research together we can carry the fire and help create a world free from
the fear of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca if you're gonna line match tonight in your
sheldon keith what defense pairing do you try to take advantage of you get matthews out in front
of i send out the fourth line and third pair um as many times as humanly possible sorry you said
if i'm sheldon keith give me a real what if i'm me what if i'm me i play the best players i can
as as often as I can um you know you know what I kind of missed when I talked about Nick Robertson
being a utility player I think Nylander is going to play a lot with the second line once he gets
his feet wet I I think it's going to be Nylander on the right of Tavares and Marner and then
Robertson probably moves up to uh both him and Yarncrow can play either wing so it doesn't matter
it'll be just the third line that they've had this whole time I I think I think there's going
to be a lot of willie third line to start just initially because one of the ways best ways to
win in the playoffs is just throwing wave after wave after line and phones ringing and now the
phones ring somebody answer that i'm gonna get that and now with willie back in the lineup they
finally have the opportunity to run three lines where you have one of your 10 plus million dollar
players on each one of those lines we have those we definitely have a lot of those that should be
a bigger story oh yeah and now that you have them on the third line it opens you up for the
opportunity if one of the first two lines are tired if both of them are tired i should say
you get willie out there with the third line which is going to be so important because you're
talking about line matching the defense tire them out with all three lines here's what i'm doing
assuming they're not tired if i'm shelton i'm like that mic a little closer to your mouth there
i'm assuming they're not tired i'm sending them out there and they're gonna score because i'm
sheldon kevin i'm friggin brilliant all right that's what's gonna happen do you actually get
Okay, who is pro-Sheldon Keefe in this room?
Well, no, I was going to ask.
I didn't ask anti-Sheldon Keefe people to speak up.
We need the pro people first.
Pro-Sheldon Keefe.
All right.
We got about five.
We got a Sheldon booth in the corner.
All right, all right.
The Sheldon booth is there.
How about everybody else?
Where's the anti-Sheldon Keefe crowd?
So, all right.
Here's what I want to know.
Why?
Why are people starting to build up frustration with this coach?
what has he done in this series has he been the problem what has he done a very interesting
question i think if you look at a lot of the problems of the least at least it's tactical
is it not it's the power play it's the penalty kill which is just strategy and formation
and then the other thing the coach um has an effect on is the lines and with the lines
there is a joke you just made about it it's a punch line the way they run their line so
everything that the coach can affect in the game shelvin keefe seems to be lacking in those areas
they've they've started a lot of game sorry they've started a lot of games poorly as well
either you know allowing a goal against or a penalty you know benoit putting the puck over
the glass or whatever um for whatever reason like you know we talk about tactics and all that
a lot of it comes down to motivation yeah am i good sorry sorry about that a lot of it like
One of the things they used to say about Pat Quinn is, like, it's not like he was a remarkable tactician.
He just had to motivate guys.
You know, Daryl Sutter, a former player of his, once told me it was more like a pregame eulogy.
You know, and, like, you know, but it set the tone for his team.
His teams were kind of grim, right?
The Leafs need to be a little bit more fired up.
um and whatever it is it's just not sinking in for this group and at some point you're gonna have to
you're gonna have to figure it out if these guys can do it can do it with any coach that you bring
in someone once told me that during a practice uh you know one of the leafs players who was still
there for babcock and is still there now referred to babcock as a loser and you know what name names
You can call him a dork.
You can call him whatever you want.
It's not like I like him or I'm a fan of him.
He's one.
And the person I'm referring to, I'm not going to name him.
What do you think?
I'm nuts.
Which, actually, if you did think I'm nuts, I mean, warranted, fair.
But, you know, we're talking about players who haven't done anything
versus a coach who they brought in with a winning resume, right?
So at some point.
Objectively not a loser in the game of hockey.
At some point, you can lead a horse to water,
but you can't make them win the cup or a round.
So, you know, this is going to be a real, real spicy summer if they lose.
But I'm so sick of saying that after every loss.
I just want them to win.
I'm not done with this series.
I'm really not.
I'm really not.
You know what?
Sheldon Keefe is the Leafs coach next season.
It's because they won.
And then I think you might forgive him,
and we might get a few more cheers.
I don't care if it's cheers or boos.
Give me a ring.
Give me a ring.
Give Adam one to replace.
We need a ring.
We need one.
I'm sorry.
That could be my new wedding ring.
That would be lovely.
You know, I look at this, and I think Boston has been unspectacular, as have the Leafs.
And I don't think, like, I look at this series with Florida and Tampa.
I look at the Edmonton Oilers.
Who's watched the Oilers series with the LA Kings?
You guys watched a little bit of that?
It's just legal murder.
Edmonton is far and away the better team
It's not even close
I wish it was closer
But I don't think, I don't see either team in this series taking that
And I know that we're carrying this baggage with us
But I really want you to understand that like
There's no more Bergeron
Marchand has lost a step
There's a lot here to like about what the Leafs could do
And when they're at their best
Like let's bring the late February
Early March Leafs into this
When they were firing on all cylinders
They looked unstoppable
they can do it it's just a question of can you do it against boston which they haven't yet
wouldn't it be so much easier to be like ah they suck you know but hopefully they could stick
around for a while it's they always like the washington capitals basically yeah like no they
find a way to torture you like no i've seen you be the best please be it all of the potential is
there and in these guys like the guys they need are on the ice each time they go out there it's
just about them performing like you said boston they're definitely gettable like you see in every
single game toronto could have won every single game of this series so far and they just haven't
been able to pull it out whether it's mind games whether it's a bad bounce whether it's a save here
or there they just need to tie date up and they can easily win the series did oh mikhail sergachev
sorry i was like did he just freaking score he got an assist yeah that's so stupid unbelievable
um now so tampa is staving off elimination as of this recording and then we've got
the Don't
Worry, They'll Win in Seven Games New York
Islanders winning this afternoon. Did you guys see that game?
It's looking good!
Good pick, Steve.
Hey, how's everybody's brackets looking for the NHL
right now? You're booing
yourself. Yeah, some thumbs up. You're booing yourself.
Booing yourself.
Okay, the series that has
surprised me the most, the series
that really shocked me has been
Vegas-Dallas. Oh, man.
I can't believe, first off, I don't think there are two better
match teams to crush each other bracket slayer and uh vegas has come out and been vegas what's
going on i mean it's someone has to win someone has to win and uh vegas is playing better defense
i was about to say ottinger hasn't really lived up to it dude logan thompson is kind of stunk
uh a little bit yeah the first game wasn't good there's too many little swiss cheesy
little swiss couple holes that you could have clogged up there but like it's commitment to
defense i mentioned this last episode the last five minutes of the game in game two when they
were up a goal they didn't allow a shot on goal like that commitment to these defenses like no
other in the league and vega dallas doesn't have a answer for it right now we need one series every
first round that is florida florida four two florida four two all right all right we need
one series every first round that is profoundly stupid now unfortunately i think adam's streaming
it i think it's canucks pretz oh my god it's tearfully boring but you know that saying uh
you know series doesn't begin until someone loses at home yeah what if that series vegas
dallas is just exclusively the road team winning i would believe it is that what you're banking on
dallas picks up a w absolutely not but i i do think i think they win tonight and i wouldn't
be shocked at all to see it be two two heading back to where is it even going dallas yeah two
two going back to dallas is the one seed i know vegas is b8 they had 113 points yeah this is and
and this is the respect given to vegas if new york was down two nothing to washington right now
i think we all go into anaphylactic shock but uh the capitals do not have the same clout
as the vegas golden knights right now the teams have gone in slightly different directions since
they met in the stanley cup final in 2018 if dallas ends up losing the series i don't even
think that's like a bad season it's bad in terms of the results but in terms of losing that series
you don't look at it and you say oh we failed you say we ran up against a team that probably we
should have faced in the western conference final you know just it's unlucky that they had a poor
regular season they're the eighth seed and we faced them in the first round you're looking at
it like a fan you gotta look at it like someone who lives and breathes it who works for that team
they are going to lose their frigging minds they are going to they're going to do potentially what
chicago did 2016 where they where they just let pecorine ruin their entire franchise before it
got ruined i hope not i hope dallas is a little more reasonable than that you would think so but
like they're an old team too they're an old team and if they blow this they're gonna feel like they
blew it for good they're an old team with a lot of young pieces that can supplant the old that is
true that is true you look at jason robertson yes stankoven jake uh ottinger's not old you know
they still have a lot of young pieces uh wyatt thomas thompson wyatt wyatt johnson
Why Johnston?
Yeah.
Sorry.
That's all right.
Baby brain.
Why one of those guys?
Baby.
Do you say baby crank?
Baby brain.
Oh, baby brain.
Hey, I thought you said baby crank.
Hey, and I'm like, I think it's maybe drunk.
I have.
Oh, my God.
Hey, Steve, let's let you know.
Let's talk a little bit about that, because Steve time this really, really well this year.
He decided this summer I'm going to write a book and and which is cool.
Wait, I did.
Yeah.
and then and then and then it's dragged out all year and then you had a baby eight weeks ago yeah
how was the sleep pattern huh it's uh honestly it's so much better than last time but like
there's no way to make it good you know what i mean she's eight weeks old she's eight weeks
old she's doing healthy she's healthy she's good yeah so with yeah we like that yeah
let's go isla she's gaining weight she burps she farts i was hoping for a stone cold what there
but i got people don't get that jacked up for for baby uh farts but um no she's everything
is going so much smoother i i can't properly express how different having your first baby
in 2020 is versus
having your second baby in not 2020.
Right. Yeah. COVID babies
are hard. It's difficult. Dude, it's just way
more fun.
I almost said funner.
And watching Leo become
a big brother in real time is
awesome.
How's he handling that? By the way, are there any
older siblings here tonight?
Who's the older sibling? Yeah. Was it
a bit of an adjustment when the
other ones came along? Yeah.
What do you mean it's not about me anymore?
i don't like this how's he doing with that so i mean the tantrums have definitely skyrocketed
sure but but then isla shows up and he's like hello baby isla and he gives her kisses on the
forehead and everything and no he's he's the best and he um he's uh he really has taken up the mantle
of responsibility like if i'm feeding her but i don't oh i don't have a burp cloth he gets up from
what he's doing and sprints to the basket and grabs it and throws it right down now he like
tucks it beneath her chin he's accidentally punched her a couple times but like she she
handles it well and he's three so like he doesn't have great form or anything by the way i love that
he's just like his dad does not do anything with grace no it's just bang bang oh i hit somebody oh
i fell how many times have you seen me just fall down a lot a lot oh that's before the drinks start
blowing too by adam used to have a place like nine places ago uh at like king and parliament
that had a spiral staircase going up and metal spiral staircase metal spiral staircase and i
walked boom right into it with my forehead and i i looked like a unicorn for the next two days
should have put pads on it just for steve yeah you know it's like a plate mcdonald's play place
No, that was tough
Leo's handling it great
So listen, here's what's going to happen tonight
Because obviously we're doing the show now
We wanted Steve to do the stream here
But the cell reception isn't good enough
I know, I know
Listen, you blame our telecoms
Bell and Rogers, it's their fault
And I don't know if you guys have looked at your phone
But even text messaging is hard here
Just this one block, it's super weird
So Steve at some point will go home
He'll stream, we're going to have him up on the screen
And Jesse and I are going to stay here
And we're going to party with you
Adam said
And we're going to watch the Leafs win, right?
Adam said
Adam said
He will chug a fishbowl
If the Leafs win
Fishbowl
Fishbowl
fishbowl fishbowl fishbowl fishbowl well somebody back there had the purple fishbowl and it looked
delicious so okay all right at least win adam's chugging a fishbowl there's a blue blue fishbowl
over there yeah blue one there you go hey all right it's red that's i don't have a glass that's
a different color all right good omen good omen so oh the margarita fishbowl what is the bulldog
Oh, is that what the beer is?
The Mad Dog Margarita Fishbowl.
Yeah.
Woo!
Adam's chugging.
Oh, God.
I don't know who's driving his home, then.
I'll drive.
It's all right.
Jesse will drive.
All right.
The tall one.
The tall guy.
All right.
So listen, guys, we're so happy that you're here with us at Boston Pizza.
We're going to have a great night tonight.
I do think it's funny.
I just want to say, I do think it's funny that we're at a Boston Pizza when Toronto
takes them on.
And by the way, Florida just scored again.
4-3 now.
4-3.
Boo.
It was 4-1.
It was.
Is this the end of the dynasty?
It could be.
Listen, I think if Tampa loses this game,
I think we've got a change of the guard.
It's definitely the end of Stamkos in Tampa.
If they don't win, that's over.
Do you have a list of teams you might go to?
To me, Stamkos is a Florida Panther.
Do you not think?
What?
Don't you think?
Adam.
Yeah.
Yeah, so here's the deal.
No, no, no.
The fishbowl comes after the show.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
First off, he's going to want to stay near home.
Florida's going to love having one over,
and he doesn't have to do as much with the Panthers.
Right now, he's got to do a lot for Tampa,
and his defense isn't great anymore,
and I know he had a good year, but let's be honest, all right?
That's like Sundin letting the sun set with the Habs.
Yeah.
Which he refused to do, by the way.
Right.
I don't know.
It sure feels like that.
Or maybe I could see a Stamkos do something like Carolina.
Doesn't it feel like a Carolina?
Or maybe a Nashville.
Older team needs some goals.
See, Nashville makes more sense.
Because they need some goals, right?
Yeah, and they have the cap room.
I think Florida, they still need to do the Reinhardt deal.
I feel like they don't have as much cap space as we think.
Utah would be interesting.
There's a team with limited cap space and a team that's on the come up.
If he doesn't need to win immediately, Utah might be interesting.
And he'd be the captain immediately.
Yeah.
Yeah, that'd be good.
That'd be good.
I like that.
I just think Nashville's a good one, though.
Yeah, so it'll be fascinating to see if Tampa can hang on to this.
Wow, what a series.
But if they don't, I think that's it.
Now, the one thing is there's a lot of people who are like,
oh, we want Sheldon Keefe gone.
The only guy I would want him really gone for is John Cooper.
Oh, Rod's not leaving Carolina.
Rod Brennan is not leaving.
Rod Cooper leaving Tampa?
No, he's not.
I asked around, and apparently he's really liked there.
Yeah, what are you talking about?
Why do you think that is?
Because he wins a lot.
Yeah, yeah.
Good job.
Nice try.
I just want that.
Rod Dabot, I think there is a greater than 0% chance.
I mean, not Toronto, but he leaves Carolina.
Because, I don't know, it's already started, the rumors about he's fighting for his guys,
and he's trying to get every dollar.
dollar and it's like how many times are you going to do that with this cheap ass team like seriously
no they are like they do this to absolutely everybody they're squeezing every penny they
squeeze everything from everybody and you know whatever the opposite of doing right by your guys
is is them yeah like kyle dubas loves his guys whereas the hurricanes put like their most iconic
franchise player through hell
every few years, and I think
he might get sick of it. That, or
he might win a cup this
year. Yeah, I mean, they look pretty good.
So listen, we're going to wrap up the show. I do
want to say, it's so great to be here at
Boston Pizza.
What's that?
Oh, it's only three? Okay, you want me to
keep going? All right, well, I guess I can keep going.
You know what we can do? You got some more time, Adam. Apparently, I was thinking
that we didn't have time. Here's what we can do.
First off, Boston Pizza, and
we got a home of the Bowmanville Bruins
sign up here.
I don't know if we need to boo Bowmanville.
I think we can be happy
for the Bowmanville Bruins. I wish they picked
a different name. I do.
If you guys have
questions, raise your
hand. I'll point
to you and then we'll do that.
We can do a little press conference, right? Let's do that.
Anybody have a question?
First off, what's your name?
All right. James, question.
You didn't think
about that.
That's okay.
That's all right, James.
James, don't raise your hand before you have a question.
Why haven't we been to Bowmanville before today?
Well, you know what?
It was Boston Pizza that invited us, so you can thank them.
Round of applause for Boston Pizza.
The franchisee here was kind enough to offer the venue.
And to be honest, one of the things that we've decided that we want to do as a business is do more live shows.
They're always great.
It's so much fun.
it's nice to get out in front of people like you guys and meet you and hang out and i think
um one of the problems that we had was that was the plan in 2020 and we then had that kneecapped
pretty quickly for two years it started to ramp up big time like the the book tours like we had
like three or four different locations with four or five hundred people yeah like uh kitchener
saint catherine's toronto and uh ottawa and uh kingston i know was the next date uh on the tour
and uh they they sent me an email like a month into covid and they're like hey so we have like
200 books um do you want to like come and sign them and i'm like nope you know i mean wife was
due any day then and you know even when the world started opening up i'm like well i am kind of a
new dad uh now that we have a bit of a different situation and obviously uh everything is far
better than it was four years ago i want to go to every gosh darn venue we can yeah so that's why
we're here we want to be out more uh so if you guys want to keep coming back that'd be great you
know be awesome uh do we have any other questions now you don't have to have thought of your
question first but uh go ahead what's your name warrior warrior what's up oh my god he's on all
of our lives on every live stream jesse question when are we going to get a cup for the leafs on
the jesse blake stream where jesse blake also can't win as general manager of the leafs
i am trying my best we're we're streaming right now we're in year two of our franchise mode we
restarted the whole one how far did you get year one jesse uh we got to the second round ah we were
up three one we were up three one we were up three one in the second round against the new
york rangers oh we went on to lose the next three games of the series and we lost ah who had who had
three goals for you in the first round ryan reeves ryan reeves you watch you i love video games yeah
it was it was an adventure like i have so much fun with those things like it's fun to just escape
reality and we have a whole
virtual world where Ryan Reeves
is scoring overtime winners for us
I traded for Caden Gooley and now I get
to pretend he's a leaf and all that stuff
it's fun to just as an adult
take a step away from real life and play
imagination every once in a while
I feel like video games are such an important
part of my life because they allow me that freedom
so yeah anybody who watches the streams
like you Warrior Womp I always appreciate you guys
indulging me into these fantasies
as GM in NHL 24
it's fun. Next question put your hands
up if you want to uh we'll go at the back with the kachina jersey on the kachina coyotes yeah
inactive jersey
steve they're saying that you he's saying that you need to watch more anime than dragon ball z
i know your only reference point i can i can i explain this yes so steve when he finds something
he likes he only does that thing he does not venture out of anything that he does not know
this is my circle and i will stay in it have you guys heard of red dead redemption
steve has played one video game for the last 10 years did you know boston pizza has chicken
fingers the only chicken fingers the television shows you know dragon ball z because that's the
show you watched and you will not venture out of the things that you know even though you might
like something else why take the risk why take the risk that's oh my god florida tied it
oh wait was that a replay oh no steve you gotta know that you got fooled you got fooled
boo this man oh no oh no oh no wow steven oh my god so this is why i don't try new things
because i might get hurt do you want to explain why you why you only like one thing at a time
uh i mean i think a therapist would be much better at that um than me uh i i honestly i don't know
i don't know like it's you know before red dead it was gta and before gta it was starcraft oh don't
forget south park stick of truth oh south park stick of truth that was a big one that was i was
incredible at that and then when i was done playing it i would watch entire playthroughs on
youtube yeah like just not a cool guy
but i met a girl and i was like you forever for the rest of my life yeah i can't take the risk
yeah i can't i can't what are the odds someone else is yes to this like yeah i gotta gotta get

Alright, what else do we have?
Yes, Oshawa Generals
jersey. Hello.
Your name first.
Name please. Hi Emily.
So just for anybody
listening at home, if the Leafs beat the
Bruins. When the Leafs beat the Bruins.
When the Leafs beat the Bruins.
Yes.
Woo!
But if they have the same board showing in the second round,
likely versus the Florida Panthers.
Likely.
What will that mean for the franchise, guys?
We're going to win.
That's right.
We don't have to answer this question because we're going to win.
It's not going to happen.
I mean, that puts you at best case you're where you were last year
with a completely different setup and mindset and roster construction and uh i mean that's bad
well and it's not even completely different roster construction you're like we're gonna
take the exact same roster and we're gonna just make it a little more and they made it a little
bit more and if the does not match the panthers then um i think there's a solid chance again i
hate doing this before the playoffs are even over do it don't you do it you got to trade at least
one of the core four at least one jesse what do you think the playoffs are the litmus test like
that's where you find out how good your team actually is and if they go up against the florida
panthers again and they get demolished again then we know the truth again about the team and i think
there's no hiding what you are at that point you you know what you are and it's not good enough as
are currently constructed so there'll have
to be some sort of moves but
if they do when they do
when they're gonna win
so our words are
irrelevant Brad is
going to treat them the way I treat Red
Dead Redemption and never let them go by the way
if the Leafs get to the finals
we'll come back to Bowmanville
do a show
yeah
and I promise
I can't promise that I'll get Brad
true living and i can't promise this either but i will put in the request to get jim true living
yeah owner of boston beats brad's dad brad's dad brad's dad brad's dad brad's dad but you
gotta think like if this team ever did anything they gotta make so much room on legends row
like matthews is getting a statue willie's getting a statue marner's getting jt's gotta
get it they'll be more decorated they'll be more decorated than half the guys on legends
bro yeah like one cup one cup that's all it's gonna take and all their numbers go up in the
rafters like we adore this team for the rest of our lives this might be expensive and i don't know
what the turnaround is like but they gotta knock out that wall right there this one knock out the
wall this one in the bowmanville boston and we gotta pack the joint yeah that's right all right
next question uh we're gonna do montreal canadians fan in the red there he's our canadian
Boo.
He's cheering for himself.
If the question is about Lane Hudson, I'm not interested.
Am I still a Habs fan?
This goes back years.
Oh, you.
Are you personally still a Habs fan?
Am I personally still a Habs fan?
I never was a Habs fan.
Oh, no.
Don't lie.
It was an inside joke going back a long time.
I feel like everybody's about to pull out a gun.
I'm sorry.
You were a what?
You were a what?
No never was a Habs fan
I think the closest
The best
The player that I liked the most for them
Was like I loved Kurt Muller
And then he became a Leaf
Or he became a Leaf first
Why do you have a Habs jersey
I have a Habs jersey
Because I lost a bet
And I forget what kind of bet I lost
I don't remember
It goes way back but yes not still a Habs fan
Next question
Yes sir
Hey Derek what's up man
Everybody say hi Derek
Hi Darren
Wrestling starting lineup
And now are we talking legends and current
Okay the entire WWE
The wrestlers are playing hockey
Okay
So you're wrestling starting five
Starting six
On left wing I have Kevin Owens
you need someone who can just be an absolute wrecking ball uh out there uh center you have
uh two-way center selkie candidate cody rhodes uh i think he's gonna be great going back going
forth um i don't know who any of these people are yes you do yes you do you know cody rhodes i don't
know cody rhodes but i know kevin owens i do uh you need a water bug on the forecheck so on right
wing since i have some size on the left i'm going ricochet um on uh defense i just gotta go
brothers of destruction well i gotta go all huge solo sakoa does nothing but lose are you not
gonna say cane and like no he's a former wrestler and no he said you can use anybody oh i can use
anybody oh no anyone no no no like you can't pick andre the giant like that is the count why not
you're a goalie okay well in that case i'll go all retired decor so you have some mobility
offense defense i'm going stone cold steve austin and sean michaels oh yeah i'm going
on d on d sean michaels is four two yeah and he's gonna switch in music everyone with skates on and
They'll die.
And then Inet.
Rick Show.
Oh, Rikishi.
Good one.
Ray Mysterio.
No, no, no.
Rikishi.
Rikishi.
And he'll sit on anyone who tries to get the blue thing.
All right, we're going to do two more questions.
We got one over here.
Tim Stutzla.
What's up, buddy?
Everybody say hi to Tim Stutzla.
What's your actual name?
Ethan.
Hi, Ethan.
It's not Tim Stutzla.
It's not Tim Stutzla.
Believe it or not.
Uh, Ethan, what's the question, buddy?
Okay.
All right.
Boo this man.
Boo him.
That's okay.
When Samsonov lays an egg like he always does, he said.
I boo your truth.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, no, it's, it's wall.
It's Joseph wall.
Repeat the question.
So the question is, if Samsonov's not good today, what do you do?
Who do you turn to?
And it's Joe Wall.
Yep.
The answer's Joe Wall.
And it's not because he's been great lately, but he has been good in the past.
And by the way, I think he's the reason they got to the second round last year.
Yep.
He stepped in for an injured Samsonov, had a great playoff.
No, Samsonov was game six.
Oh, okay.
But Samsonov got hurt very early in Florida.
That's what it was.
Um, it would have got away from them a lot quicker had Wal not been there.
I thought he was one of the better guys for the Leafs.
I thought he was great.
Uh, I'm all about, I'm all about Joseph Wall.
I think that high ankle sprain that he suffered or whatever it was is really bugging him.
But, um, and then, yeah, in the off season, I, the, the Leafs might be looking for, um,
they might be looking for goaltending help.
If, if Sammy's not good, like, what do you say, right?
Like, it's not, you've got Dennis Hill to be who's doing well, but you can't throw him
to the Wolves and be the starting goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Like, it could be a problem.
Well, this, the, the fascinating thing, like, I think there could be a big goalie trade in the
work for the Leafs where one of their prospects, they have too many, like they have too many
goaltending prospects for them to all hit and to all have the proper ice time in the organization.
So I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them go, please not Artur Aktyamov because I think he's
going to be really good. But next year, you know, this idea of having a vet like Martin Jones,
Or having someone like Matt Murray
Sign a contract so that he can play with the Marlies
I kind of think they might have too many kids
Unless they trade them
I remember
One time way back when
I know what you're going to say
When the Leafs traded a goalie prospect
By the name of Tuka Rask
How did that work out?
How did that work out?
They had just too many goaltending prospects
I don't like hearing that Steve
Don't trade any of these goalie prospects
Find somewhere for them to play
and hopefully the one that hits when he hits he's good enough to call up to the Leafs they don't
have an ECHL team right now they'll find one they will find one find a place to put the goalie
I hate trading guys before they're anything yet I agree here's the thing that Tukaras trade will
always be profoundly stupid from the moment it was done yes Tukaras was a first round pick goalie
like your scouting staff who you probably pay more handsomely than any other scouting staff
in the league was like this one and you went okay and after a year you were like actually
never mind let's trade him for raycroft who's like hips are being held together by toothpicks
at this point and wasn't even good in finland during the lockout that was always stupid yeah
so unless there's something like that out there where someone who already sucks is traded for one
of the best goalie prospects in the world right i would look at moving one of them just not act him
One more and we're going to go
We're going to go right there at the bar
Your name is, with the glasses
Your name is what?
Hi Zach
Oh my god
Every question
Not a single question has started with
What if everything goes great
How big is the statue
Like
Leaf fans, I love it
Who's that?
If Shan hands out, who do you want to...
Oh, man.
That is a conversation for me, team.
Alan Walsh.
I'd love that, but I don't think Alan wants to do that.
Alan.
Alan.
Alan.
I think you've got to go...
Oh, boy.
That's a really hard question.
I think...
So here's what I know.
Or here's what I've heard.
And this is what I've heard from league circles.
the alumni of the Leafs are not happy and they're still not happy that the Leafs chose somebody who
was not a Leaf even though I have to say Shanahan for president yeah for president now Shanahan did
a great job you have to you have to admit this team has scored more regular season points than
most teams I think other than Boston in the last eight years they're on an eight-year playoff
streak that's a big deal that means something so you have to keep that in mind right and you're
making a lot of money for the shareholders it's a lot of money for the shareholders and that's what
we're all working for isn't it yeah yeah i love the shareholders and i think and i think so so
when you're making that decision and i don't think that they will this offseason now i've
i've changed my mind on that keith pelly is going to come in and we know keith or we've met keith a
couple of times very energetic guy very sports guy started as a producer at tsn on cfl and made
the cfl took the cfl from a nothing product in the 80s to what it is today which outside of toronto
it's an enormous part of canadian society canadian sports fabric right and i and so yeah you guys can
you can laugh but but keith pelly is an energetic this is the guy you want running it and so i think
what they do is they got to find somebody who's got business acumen and is well connected in the
hockey world i don't know the answer to who that might be it would help if they were a former leaf
it would help uh not a former leaf but i'm not just saying this because we're in a boston pizza
jim trill living no oh okay all right although i'm really really funny not bad uh it could be
bradshaw living and brandon pridham who we all assume is going to go to pittsburgh
becomes the general manager of the toronto maples i like that a lot like uh messiah and bobby webster
you know you just make him the president you promote the young kid and let him do the day-to-day
gm duties could be like shanahan was i'm trying to think what positions he held before he was
even leave president he was the nhl player safety yeah player safety guys yeah like but when you're
in nhl player safety you're being groomed to be a general manager president that's the whole thing
because you learn the economics of how the league works and by the way if you don't like george
peros now wait till he's running an nhl team it's going to happen toronto no he's not running
toronto stop it stop it maybe george is the guy i don't know that's right all right all right we'll
do one more question i want to keep it positive though is it a positive question at the back there
Very, very back.
All the hands go down.
Behind, behind, behind, yeah.
Way back.
Houston Astros.
Cheater!
What's your question?
Just so you can hear the bang, bang.
Baseball humor.
If you could take Nolichari and Ryan O'Reilly over Mitch Marner, would you?
Do I get the cap space, too?
You get the cap space.
Okay, that's interesting.
Man, I'll tell you, there's one person on the forward group
for the Nashville Predators who actually looks like they could score
in that series, and it's Ryan O'Reilly.
The rest of them are just a bunch of nothing.
It's Roman Yossi, Ryan O'Reilly, and, like, I don't know who else.
It sure isn't Luke Evangelista or Colton Sissons.
Oh!
You really are a Canucks fan.
Yeah. So I'll say this for me personally. I was real salty when Ryan O'Reilly left because I love him. Me too. And there's a reason why I was salty because he's awesome. Noel Achari. Man, how many times has that guy broken his nose? It's crazy. More than me.
and uh he was a factor for the leafs i it's it's difficult for me to say we don't want elite player
but i'm gonna go with yeah i think i probably would take them over over that and i don't mean
that as a dig at mitch i think they bring different elements to the lineup and i sure would love a
setup third third line center who's awesome all the time why is it controversial to say you'd
rather have a guy who won the con smith than a player who like routinely disappears the deeper
into a series you go you know what i mean wow not everyone's gonna love that um let's
stop it jesse it's salacious i don't know it's all right salacious uh how dare first of all
really good word yeah really good word um i love nola chari i love uh ryan o'reilly listen if uh
damn you for asking that question that's a really good one i mean um you're giving me
the option of taking two players who i loved in the playoffs plus cap space over a player with a
full no move make it 11 mil who has been criticized for how he's performed in the playoffs
uh i'm i'm taking the unpopular choice i'm taking mitch yeah i'm taking i'm taking the
higher-ceiling superstar. I'd rather take
that bet, and I'd say that's
going to pan out more than the two
players.
I feel bad. Our friend with the Leafs hat
and the beard who's been real loud and real supportive
at the back had a question, so I want to go
to you last, sir.
It better not start with, if this goes sideways.
Now we're doing positive
vibes here, right? Now we're winning this game.
All right. So
first off, what's your name?
Hi, Keith. Or Keaton.
Keith. All right, Keith.
All right, buddy, go ahead.
What are we doing what again?
What are we doing our next live show?
For the parade.
Well, yeah.
That's the kind of positivity we want.
Yeah.
You know what, Keith?
I'm hoping that it's at a Boston Pizza.
I've loved the partnership that we've built with them.
So I hope that continues.
um and i would like it to be ideally if this goes seven i'd like it to be next saturday
um but uh but at the very latest second or third round i think that that would be best i don't know
where it will be i don't know what it'll be uh but that would be that would be a windsor
i okay if we come to windsor wouldn't you be pissed yeah you came all the way to bowmanville
