TaskRabbit comes in and I think you should check this out because here's the deal.
One of the things, one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor

And their way around on that is like, well, it's a patio window, you can do that yourself.
And I'm like, well, hang on a second.
What if I don't want to?
I don't have the stuff because you got to have that scraper thing and the washer thing.
The chemicals, you got to have the right chemicals.
see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task

walk.ca we wanted to start today's show with a bit of a shout out kevin wilson a hugely fan that
worked at loblaws and i presume this was the loblaws that we got very well acquainted with
which is near the sport check where we used to you know near maple leaf square right because
there's a loblaws in there we used to go there for lunch all the time because we were working
down at sport check for a few months uh last year bobby mcmahon uh one of the players who
met with kevin uh you know because he was kevin loved the toronto maple leafs uh honored him by
arriving uh at last night's game in a high visibility vest and what appeared to be kevin's
name on his own name tag it was mentioned on hockey night in canada and he put it up on his
Instagram stories as well. So there is a GoFundMe set up to cover his funeral costs.
GoFundMe goes as following. This morning, I received the heartbreaking news that Kevin
passed away. It was so sudden and unexpected. Just last week, Kevin and I were working together
as we have for the past five years. Kevin was always smiling and he loved,
was loved by both his coworkers and customers alike. He was especially known for his love of
the Toronto Maple Leafs, often sharing enthusiasm and the game scores with everyone around him.
he was a ray of sunshine and his kindness and warmth will be forever missed so this was a
beloved guy great move by bobby um and uh let's can we put the can we put the gofundme in our
link here yeah yeah let's do it let's do that because if you if you can funerals uh are
outrageously expensive and so kevin uh you know any help we can give to kevin and his family we'd
love to and we know how the sdpn community steps up so we want to do a big shout out to kevin big
shout out to Bobby, and we'll start the show.
S-D-P-P, the Steve Dangle Podcast, with your hosts, Steve Dangle, Adam Wylde, and Jesse
Blake.
Let's go!
All right, here we are, Monday, and the Senators are still the number one story, thanks to
the Senators.
But we'll get to that in a second.
First things first, Jesse was in Kingston for a live show this weekend.
Yes.
and he brought back a present you requested one of the visors from the drew and stew live show at
the mansion and i brought it yeah i'm trying to put it over over my mic and over my hat it's not
gonna work please wear that golfing this there we go please wear that definitely wear that
blue ribbon who sponsored the show uh i did indeed steal one of the vibes and you guys have a good
time it was a great time uh shout out me i'm undefeated on my picks oh yeah so i went five
it over the weekend it was pretty awesome calls though shout out drew who's oh and five
is he really he didn't even pick his own bills no no he's he's the master of uh i'm gonna hedge
my feelings hedgelord yeah yeah oh he's already it's exhausting he's already like congrats to
leafs on their win tonight like uh because they're playing the avalanche yeah right hedgelord
that's the best term you've ever come up thank you he was all over the jags for the game on
yesterday well they're gonna win we're gonna win by 17 they're gonna win shut up he was happy but
he lost his pick i think he's he wants to hedge tonight because it's the avalanche and the leaves
obviously in colorado and if the leaves did win uh in regulation to be the first regulation loss
they've suffered at home and how hilarious would it be if it was the least it did it it'd be great
it'd be great but the fact that he's doing it makes me go he's like oh they've already lost
already two points for the leafs i cannot wait for the call of fraud oh lfr i i need it i need it
the only not gonna happen the the june stew episode at the mansion it's gonna be
in their monday episode today okay if you missed out if you want to see cam uh just not stop just
cammin just going off and just being cam you can watch that in the june stew episode that comes out
today it really is such a fun show i love that show uh you guys if you love football that's a
show you got to check out now um the other thing is what do you see the clip where cam thought i
was an ohl player yes cam thought steve was he's not the first person to think that you played
hockey like yeah and i i find that so funny because so much of what and like he works for
you yeah drew's like no he taught himself how to skate like a few years ago what um can you pick
up the trophy next to you uh this is the connor mcdavid trophy awarded to the top players from
the eastern and western conference at the ohl top prospects game and the whole top prospects
tourney which includes several other tournaments starts tomorrow in peterborough and we'll be there
so uh we will see you tomorrow and we will see you friday or friday excuse me wednesday
and steve is going to be doing the in-game arena hosting by the way for that too so we got two
shows so good yeah we got a tuesday show and a wednesday show and then of course we'll do our
friday show as well so lots of sdp content this week what so tomorrow what can people like what
do they go and see well they're they're obviously the the u16 uh uh tournaments are on tomorrow and
some of the players are going to be around signing autographs and that sort of thing too
so uh we will be in the community center just down the street from uh the pmc so the pmc is
where the pete's play will be uh in that community center second floor overlooking both ice pads it's
kind of a really cool spot kind of looks like a cool condo with like florida ceiling glass and
everything you know so we're really excited about that we're gonna be there around midday
uh recording a show talking to people and uh that's tomorrow's show to me is where we can
kind of let loose and have some fun because wednesday's show which apparently is happening
in the arena for the peets and i won't say where because i want to make sure that it actually
happens um that show will include brian crawford who is the ohl commissioner and we have to be a
little bit more professional for that one right no well a little bit more a little bit more slightly
no and i also got a notification from one of the guys uh who is organizing the event and said hey
adam can you please make sure to bring that trophy with you because it is the trophy so yeah this is
not a uh replica this is the real deal it's real yeah so we'll you can't you can't buy tickets to
the portion of us in particular recording our show just just come and be there but you got to
get tickets to the game yes yeah and there are i believe the game's sold out but they're after
market stuff and uh uh there's also like we'll just we'll be around you'll see us uh you'll see
is kind of hobnobbing just freaking look for us yeah you can always treat us and be like where
are you and we'll be like here yeah yeah so come see us it'll be a lot of fun uh steve we can take
the trophy off the table now why um because what if i want it i want to bring it home um now you're
gonna okay no no no no no where do we put this where adam won't forget it well i'm gonna i'm
gonna we'll do that after where do we put this where adam won't forget it no technically i have
two days to get it there because tomorrow they don't really need it but the next day they're
really going to need it yeah but if we don't bring it tomorrow it's going to be a little
yeah that's true like that's a good point that's a good point now listen uh the ottawa senators did
a couple of things this morning uh the first thing they did was they uh brought in james reimer
they did uh the leafs obviously tried him out in the early uh pre-season uh sorry late pre-season
didn't work out he was released um and then this the senators tried him out at the ahl this past
weekend and he allowed six goals but so did joseph wool before he came back yeah i don't i don't put
a ton into that it's not encouraging but like i don't put a ton into that and today they signed
him to a one-way contract uh and uh he is going to be making 850 grand prorated so probably 400
something whatever i uh i hate the narrative around james ramer by the way why do you hate
the narrative well people keep narrative people keep talking about how like he's just old and i
hate that because we were born the same week so knock that off james ramer is 47 that is me
yeah he wears his age on his patch so he's got to get it updated this year now he's 48
yeah he's 48 doing it every year yeah yeah but you imagine how exhausting that would be
by the way i didn't know you were so ancient wow yeah ancient steve is what we call him 47 year old
buffalo sabers numbers last year we'll ignore the two games he played for the ducks because it was
two games uh on last year's buffalo sabers 285 goals against average which seems slightly high
but a 901 save percentage in 22 games man he was downright adequate i'm telling you and that's
what the sense the sense needs some saves in terms of who is available for free to just sign
out of the blue in january jesse's laugh he is the best candidate who else is there who else is
there okay no who would you sign now go like there's there's no one when you have to put it
into those terms it's just very desperate oh yeah and and i think there's a larger conversation
about how awful they have been in goal that they've reached the point where it's you have
to take the guy for free and see who's out there and this is james right can you can you guys tell
me what the team save percentage this season in 44 games for the ottawa senators is 8
88 which would be bad jesse 8 76 which would be worse can i one up you both oh you're joking
868 stop it they're stat news stat muse team save percentage right now i'm looking at it
look you can look at it yeah this doesn't mean i'm gonna believe it
i don't believe it i need the sins to release a statement about how this is false
i from my perspective what yeah
huh so they need this guy their gold differential is only minus 10
if yeah i know these guys might win the cup if they get a save 100 holy cow league average
save percentage by the way is 897 it's down from last year's 900 this year it's 897 868 boys
they're well below if reimer could get them in 875 it's a huge improvement
like literally that's that will legitimately get them points in the standing 100 and it allows you
to i don't know how old mad sogard is i'm pretty sure he's young it it allows you to not throw him
into the pool when he can't swim yet you know um hunter shepherd i mean it's just it's not a task
he's up to and marilinen's kind of drowning right now too kinda yeah and he was good he's unplayable
yeah i which i'm shocked by i'm shocked by he was really good last year we were talking about
these two young goalies who took the atlantic by storm last year and jacob dobish in montreal and
levy maryline and in ottawa both of them have struggled one of them has actually won games
though and that's dobish um i i don't have an answer there i've seen sense fans talk about
justin peters maybe there's something there on account of uh he's the coach and all their goalies
have been bad but uh i'm starting to see more and more about travis green i i don't know what
the problem is but they can't stop a puck the goaltending is the problem uh yeah and and when
your goaltending problem good they're good goalies yeah which is this is that's what's confusing
leaving maryland is a good goalie lenis allmark has that will be we think mad so guard i think is
i don't know his career numbers but i know he's played before this season and i want to say he
was adequate so what's happening senators have lost four straight not good and this is on the
heels of and everybody knows it what happened thursday night when the statement heard around
the nhl was released to that put to bed thankfully all of the rumors about what was going on in the
auto with that well this stopped it did well it's weird though we haven't heard a single thing about
it since for such a stopped rumor why are they still writing about it they released a statement
about their statement today they did but i want to start with how this story unfolded a little bit
over the weekend because remember we also had the players talking right yes and uh so we have
obviously thursday night the statement goes out friday everybody's like why did you make that
statement uh saturday it's mentioned several times on hockey night in canada which is the you know
premier hockey broadcast in the entire country and uh and then this morning i would argue is
given more life by uh a blog by the head of pr ian mendes who was also a senator's writer for
the athletic for many years we've had ian on this show like ian personally very very much
oh and my god couldn't disagree more with this strategy couldn't couldn't disagree more with
this strategy yeah and and so i want to um i we heard from stutzler we heard from kachuk
we heard from david perron so they're all you know veteran guys well respected in the room
um and they all kind of said the same thing which was uh you know we love lenis we can't
wait for him to get back um you know we can't believe that this is this is completely crossing
the line all that stuff and i can understand from their perspective why they feel like
whether these rumors are true or not why these might be crossing the line right i get it i i
don't think there's a person among us who doesn't get it but yeah the rumor was the crossing the
line part right but what steve said on friday and what people sort of echoed across the hockey
verse was yeah but you gave it more oxygen when you made that statement because most people and
you could see it in the comments even underneath our friday show people were like i people were
like i didn't even know until i listened to this show about this this story some of the social
clips we uploaded people like i still don't know what you're talking about people people are
people have lives and this is where i think i'm employed what is this sorry i exactly i think the
ottawa senators don't realize how small their world is and that's not an insult to ottawa or
the market you got to remember even if this was the toronto maple leafs which is a much bigger
a media blast if something like that goes out um you got to remember that people have jobs
and they have kids and they have lives and maybe their only interaction with your brand is when
you're on television maybe they don't have social media plenty of people are getting away from
social media maybe they're not chronically online like you or or me or steve or whatever you know
steve you said you you're criminally online i didn't actually i said chronically i'm sure i'm
that also you're you're whatever you are online you're online a lot you're in tune with this
that's our job jesse's in tune with this that's his job i'm in tune with this i was live streaming
and that is where i look at today and i go why are you making this a story again because i'll
be honest with you guys the only thing i wanted to talk about was the player press
talks and then we were going to move on can we play a little bit of it please i'm hoping we would
here's brady kachuk from the uh coming in hot clip this uh for uh from his media veil but this
is him talking about the rumors yeah um not gonna lie it's pretty fucking bullshit um i mean i don't
think anybody's pretty pretty happy about uh a narrative being spread like that that uh you know
i think it's okay for people to critique our on ice performance but when it gets into family it's
it's pretty fucking bullshit so um it's it's embarrassing that uh it got to the point that
it did and uh yeah i i could tell you for free i'm not i'm not happy about it one bit
yeah there you go i'll tell you for free no i mean i wouldn't be happy either if i was him
i wouldn't be happy here's what i don't get okay people were like well no this is this is them
sticking up for their guys sticking up for okay they're sticking up for their guys sticking up
for their guys how what's what's the problem that needs to be solved here let's talk through this
let's figure this out with logic okay i don't know what answer you're looking for but i'll
give you one no no you'll you'll get there i know okay all you got to do is tell the truth so what
is the problem what is the bullshit that is fucking what is the fucking bullshit that we're
talking about the bullshit is i think the rumor yes right the rumor the rumor is bullshit and
the rumor wait wait a sec the rumor oh is that the one how did that rumor get out uh it apparently a
couple of posts on reddit and then a twitter account that was registered two hours before
the senator's statement came out oh a twitter account random twitter account not nobody of
consequence just a just a just a burner nobody of consequence well they have some consequence
the team and the nhl team released a statement but oh but that's it right it was just some random
on twitter that's apparently it oh okay weird well how come today ian wrote because we reached
a tip or here i'll start from here we go why would we bother to shed light on something that
washinsky sixero and harrington didn't know about until we posted it why would we needlessly create
a Streisand effect here. I like that he's addressing it head on because we reached a
tipping point on Thursday where this absurd rumor had spread out of control in our markets.
Our local media had been whispering about this for the better part of two weeks.
National media members were also well aware of this storyline. Any attempts to shut this down
via back channels weren't successful and the lie continued to spread unchecked until it spiraled
out of control thursday i would be losing my mind if i was a player and you said that shit
into the public a second ago it was some asshole on twitter and now you're telling the whole world
local and national media have been talking about this for what's this w word weeks two weeks
we told you we knew about it but we would never have spoken about shut the fuck up
one of the things that i thought was interesting is a comment i got on friday guys and jesse you'll
know because you do this daily um uh somebody said well what happens if they don't make a
statement and then um and then somebody like in the bedard cory perry situation from a couple
years ago goes and asks a player about it and to me and tell me if i'm wrong here this guarantees
we're asking players about it does it not it i don't think this would have been asked about by
the media in ottawa if if it wasn't that if this invited the questions to the players can i point
something out that there is actually a tremendous amount of difference between this and the cory
perry thing uh cory perry's contract was terminated yeah and people very rightly were like why
so his multi i think it was four million dollar contract yeah two year four million each poof
gone and he didn't even fight it whoa what the hell happened what transpired and people
naturally are going to be like well what did cory perry do and i think it's absolutely right to ask
questions about that now when you start asking he did fight it by the way and oh he did fight it
yeah but then he dropped it right he he fought it and then it was settled outside of any public
no yeah so we don't know what happened there yeah but it is very different in that yes his contract
was terminated at the time the blackhawks released the statement that he engaged in conduct that is
unacceptable and in violation of both the terms of his standard players players contract and the
blackhawks internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments when they
terminated his contract they had to say he violated safe working environment yes that is much different
then lean us all marks on uh ir for a personal reason and he's away from the team and respectfully
it's the blackhawks so we're all like wowsers what happened there exactly on account of you
know this didn't happen to the stars it didn't happen to the friggin go through a list of the
team that aren't the blackhawks right there's a reason we were asking questions i don't think
these two situations are one and one no generally speaking with worth mentioning with the yeah of
course but like with the exception of uh you know a couple twitter rumors uh all mark took his leave
from the team and most people were like yeah do your thing man yep not too dissimilar to the way
joseph wall took his leave from the leafs earlier yeah and then it was like okay well i'll move on
they said he's the branch of living came out and was like hey we're not gonna answer any questions
on joseph wall and why he's gone and then that was it and then we just waited till he came back
And the Leafs were kind of in free fall while Wool was gone.
But what if at that time somebody tweeted that there was a big rumor about Joseph Wool being away?
I don't know.
I don't know.
Then we'd have to derail everything.
I guess I'm surprised it didn't happen here with all the crazy mean people.
The biggest cope I've seen online is that this is coming from Toronto and Montreal.
Like, stop.
the senators literally just said that it's a it's it's been asked about for two weeks from
the local media oh my god i'd be losing my mind how is that protecting the players putting that
shit out there again like a lot of these stories just fall to pieces when you actually know the
details so what are you doing saying that wischinski responded by the way and he said
appreciate ian adding context to clarify number one i was well aware of the rumors before the
senator's statement which is why i was shocked they'd give it that much oxygen yes which has
been our opinion too number two if local media requests fueled the statement wouldn't it be less
incendiary to simply send it to them and and instead of posting it on their twitter now
ian does mention in that in that statement that they had tried to put it to bed with local media
i don't know who these people i don't know who they would have been i don't know but none of
them said anything did they not one of them said a thing until the Sens did and now it's like well
an NHL team released a statement we have to talk you're not going to talk your way into this being
a good idea respectfully it's a horrible idea and if I was a player on that team I'd be mortified
at the way that they're handling it this is not making things better and the players at all the
players said publicly you know we appreciate them making the statement and making us feel like they
we had our back and it's kind of echoes what elliot friedman said on 32 thoughts on friday
as much as i disagree with that stance it seems to be what they think internally and this isn't
and i want to be clear about this because we are from toronto we are you know i'm openly fans we
know that this is this isn't a shot at we're not it like if this was any market we'd be saying the
same thing we say is disqualified based on the fact that we're from toronto what are you doing
here yeah i what are you doing here then i think what has to happen here is they gotta stop making
this the top story and and with no disrespect to ian because i actually i really like ian i think
he's a great writer one doesn't matter people you like make i don't i don't need his perspective on
it i've never gotten our pr's perspective on anything the steve the leafs have done i'm
fascinated by his perspective i'm fascinated by but this is this is where it breathes oxygen into
it can you imagine the toronto maple leafs pr guy uh who you guys know uh i don't know him as well
as you guys do no can you imagine him putting out a blog post here's why we don't talk about
injuries i wish he would me too ian does this every monday i know right i know it's they're
coming with a different strategy and i don't feel like it's i don't want to criticize that for
having a different way approach to dealing with your fan base i assume a lot of senators fans
appreciate mendez's monday musings and would like and lease fans might like something like that but
it's just two different organizations taking different approaches but my point jesse is that
it brought it back to the top story of our show yes no i i'm not talking about the mentioning of
the statement oh i'm talking about just the idea of a pr person having a blog no i don't hate that
I don't hate that at all.
I want to differentiate.
I don't hate that at all.
I think it's just this particular story.
I'm like, maybe take a Monday off on this one.
Right?
Like you guys have stated a lot.
And then it was number one all weekend long in terms of interest and story and whatever.
And here's the thing.
It doesn't even matter now what happened.
Because the story is not the rumor now.
The story is the handling of the rumor.
And I'll be honest with you.
I think this was fumbled from the start.
I'll take the Sens at their word.
Oh, yeah.
Honestly, we told you this Friday.
I don't even care.
I don't even care.
People cheat.
People do things.
I don't know.
I don't care.
It's none of my business.
I care about, and Brady's right,
care about what happens on the ice.
And I told you, if there's a fist fight
in the dressing room like Pedersen Miller,
yeah, I'm interested in that.
What they do at home or on the road,
at the bars, wherever they go, restaurants, Tinder,
I don't care.
I don't care.
Sure.
but when the senators chose to step in here and do this that's the story for me and and it to me
does give me a little bit of an insight into how decisions are made there i think i think it it
can't you can't look at this and go i don't i haven't learned something about the senators
today i certainly have yeah i mean it so you're like you're talking about how this
is the number one story with the sense the number one story with the league let's delete it okay
it's gone okay what's the number one story with the sense uh four game losing streak steve four
game losing and james remember signing a car and their mentions being flooded with fire stayos
fire green that's the number one story like part of me goes is part of the strategy that this is
somewhat advantageous smoke screen from a you're hoping to galvanize the room or galvanize the
fan base and us versus them sort of thing well then it might work it might i don't know you play
the panthers it's a close one you're trying shit you know you're bringing in a goalie uh i don't
know that's better than this nonsense like i i know that james reimer's first win against the
maple leafs is gonna just hit ottawa like uh just i'm pretty sure his best record in his career is
in that building okay well there you go it's already it's already a slam dunk then i hate it
i hate it him in a sense uniform oh god yeah knock it off but you know i i think i don't know where
i don't know where they go from here but i feel like this story has finally exhausted itself even
for them and you know it was interesting was if i if i'm not mistaken was lena salmark not in a
private box on saturday night uh i saw that he was in one last week i don't know about last night i
read a tweet that he was in one last night but like but he wasn't with the scratches so most
people don't just look at random tweets and go yeah for sure that happened yeah so i saw that
and i went okay yeah okay all right what did you think about uh what did you guys think about what
Brady said, what Tim Stutzla said, what David Perron said, the fact that Steve Steyos, after
making that, did not speak to the media. I know he spoke behind the scenes to the media, but he did
not get in front of a microphone. I feel like, and I'm just going to be straight about this,
as a general manager, if you're making a statement like that, you have to be prepared for follow-up
questions at a scrum. This is going to be extraordinarily popular or
extraordinary extraordinarily unpopular in ottawa leaders lead from the front so
a random twitter account puts this out there it starts spreading in like pockets of online but
again you can't bring this up in social circles you can't bring this up at work and sound like
anything but a weirdo oh yeah did you hear this rumor oh what is it and then you tell them the
rumor oh man where'd you see that oh an account on twitter that existed for two hours or a reddit
account no you sound like a loser saying that try explaining that to your neighbor your 48 year old
neighbor and see how you sound they'll just be like oh okay well that's weird then your gm puts
out the statement which now gives everyone free reign to ask about it and now who's got to field
those questions the players that's not leadership that's not leadership you don't release a
statement three four hours after that on mid game was steos not at that game i don't know but it was
right before they took the ice in in colorado right because they had a late game oh right so
it wasn't mid game but just before even better it was mid leaf game so it's pre sense game even
better yeah so it makes the leaf broadcast and then it makes the sense broadcast right
uh steos could have gotten in front of those cameras and those mics himself
i know he was there yesterday like literally present but wasn't on camera wasn't on mic
you let the players take those bullets and i think that's a tough position to put them in
That's what we said from the beginning is this is a really tough position to put the players in.
And then it got worse.
I get Michael and our not speaking.
I don't think this statement goes out without his approval, but I get why he doesn't speak.
He's the owner.
We always say, hey, owner shouldn't say as much.
I never expect to hear from the owner.
But Jesse, you've been in enough scrums to know at this point, you're probably not surprised by this.
Are you that that's the house didn't come out and maybe talk publicly?
No. And I think based on like the fallout from the initial statement and their letter on their Twitter account, that is probably best to try and move on from it and not follow up and create more conversation around it.
So if you're if if the Ottawa senators were shocked by the reaction and they didn't expect it to be this and and people disagreeing with the way they handled it so much, you probably want to just move on and not follow up with another news conference about it and answer more questions on it.
So I understand the strategy post statement of not fueling it more with more conversation.
okay okay well listen there was more though it just wasn't from him yeah exactly yeah so you
don't add to it by lending more words to it because then it's just more of your statement
well this is what i'm saying it's just don't have a statement in the first place yes but
but i'm talking about after that yeah that's already done yeah that yes that would be the
first thing to do that's patient zero um but you need to after that i think you don't add to it
Now, currently, the Senators are last in the Atlantic,
but I'll tell you how they put this story away.
They get a back-to-back this week.
Can you guess the teams they're playing?
Leafs-Habs.
No, but...
No, you know it's not Leafs.
Yeah, it's not Leafs.
Oh, right.
They're in the West.
I don't know.
Who is it?
Senators-Canucks Tuesday.
Oh, baby.
So there's an opportunity.
Yeah.
And the Canucks are struggling.
And then Senators-Rangers the next day.
Oh, baby.
Two teams that are struggling.
Put four points on the board.
yeah I mean both teams just need to win so damn bad but I think it's over for the Rangers and I
think we all know that it's over I'm it's over I don't think are in white flag territory I don't
think at all I don't think they are either at all Rangers are right there Canucks are yeah they
told everybody Canucks have been there for months they only figured it out recently I do wish that
I'd paid a little bit more attention to the Spangler this year because Reimer was the starting
goalie yeah uh and they did not get far so i'm curious about james reimer does he get a start i
mean they just signed him does he start one of these two games you have to think he does
and does he pull out a crazy win and then are the vibes back in ottawa because that's how quickly it
can turn january guys is going to it's going to come at you like a freight train it already is
january 12th already for everyone in terms of hockey if you're watching hockey there's games
every other night if you're a team with significant injuries this is going to be crazy it's going to
a long month for you so i think the senators get it back on track you put you get you get uh three
of four or four or four points and this all goes away i don't think forever and ever they're they're
not bad enough to be here no they just need a goalie i don't know if if anyone in the atlantic
has been bad enough to be here like uh look at who has held last place over the last month buffalo
Toronto now Ottawa who else has been last place I don't know Boston Boston was last but yeah
nobody's bad enough for that does the Atlantic have a bad team no but they don't have a great
team well lightning might be if you look at their goal differential they're pretty right like it's
it's a tough division right now okay I'm really excited for this one I'm really excited for this
one fan zone now fan zone uh fan zone scoreboards uh reached out to us because they want people to
know that you can get a real life scoreboard in your basement, in your bar, in your garage,
wherever you'd hang one with all 32 NFL teams and all 32 NHL teams branded, licensed, real
and officially licensed scoreboards.
And they're sick.
OK, so let's have a look at this.
Look at that thing.
Yeah, that's bigger than the one they got at the Olympics.
Yes, it actually is.
now what's crazy about this is it streams the real-time scores straight to the display through
their app so you don't have to worry about you know changing the score on your own it'll just
do that uh you can um there is also manual scoring options but it is one of the coolest
things that you can have in like a cave option in your house i know the the like automatic score oh
it's sync to the leafs game it's playing the the score and then it goes off and they scored whatever
i think the manual scoring option is cooler because imagine you're a kid or an adult
playing mini sticks or you got your bubble hockey yeah and you got an actual scoreboard for that
yes like that's so sick yeah it would be the part that my son looks forward to the most yeah
scoring and then the scoreboard changing get wrecked dad now uh you can do all that you
should go to fanzone scoreboards.com uh and obviously tell them the sdp sent you and there
are 10 offers there on the website right now but it is bring the stadium home with fanzone scoreboards
these are so cool and we're thrilled to have them as a partner sometimes life throws your curveballs

So that isn't the only thing that is roiling Senators fans,
and I don't blame them on this one.
It's a Carter Verhege hit.
So the Sens and Panthers faced off on Saturday night,
tightly contested game.
Sens made it close in the final minute,
making it 3-2, but then obviously the Panthers,
I think, were able to score the empty net, or were they not?
It doesn't even matter.
Panthers won.
they were up 3-1 I don't know if they ever got the empty net they won yeah so uh then um the the
real thing to come out of that game other than the loss was this hit Carter Verhage uh and this hit
in in let's let's pretend Artem Zub knows Carter Verhage is there even if he doesn't even if he
does know he's there this is a boarding call 10 times out of 10 and this hit was assessed for a
major so they could review it and then they made it a minor i uh i think boarding should be a minor
such a small percentage of the time most of the time it should be a major yeah like or four minutes
at least like this is uh this is an ugly hit so for anybody not uh who's listening uh verhege and
Zub are in the corner the puck has skirted around uh to the it's it's the bottom right corner of
the senator's ice Zub is about three feet away from the boards Verhege is right behind him and
as Zub goes for the puck uh Verhege basically pushes him in the midsection and Zub does the
Bobby Orr right into the Desjardins sign in the in the boards leave it there oh damn like look at
his fucking neck oh my god dude that's that's an awful hit awful awful hit right into the end
boards and look who it is look who it is it's not even just that it's carter verhage it's the
panthers although it's funny people were like he is not this type of player and tampa bay fans were
like he is absolutely of course he's that type of player they all are atlantic fans are atlantic
division fans are ganging up on the panthers like friggin the avengers and i mean right now they're
thanos right three straight cup finals there's stanley reigning stanley cup champions back to
back this being called a major being reviewed for a minor uh or reviewed to be a minor and then not
even getting fined or talked about or suspended or nothing the next day is so bad. And I reached
out to, I reached out to someone, um, in hockey media, like outside of, you know, our little echo
chamber and i'm like okay let's have a conversation i need to ask you a question like as a
as a as a peer so this hit went viral online
actually viral and everyone was talking about it and there was footage of it and we saw it happen
was it just a twitter account yeah no no statement here though and i think most people would have
preferred it we got last year matthew nyes got hit people didn't know why it wasn't a suspension
the nhl department of player safety released a video about why that was a back white cloud hit
yes yeah they didn't have to do that for us they did it i appreciate that they did it and they are
never going to do it again ever for the rest of our lives they did a kindness once we still hate
them and so they're like you know what why are we doing the extra work if they're going to hate us
anyway well because you're wrong but also i appreciated it at the time i didn't hate you for
that anyway this happens it goes viral and my question was okay
so i don't know why it's a minor and not a major and the person i spoke to is a former player
i go why is that a minor and not a major he goes i don't know so okay you got podcasting idiot
who doesn't know because of course he doesn't know
but then you got player who doesn't know what are you going to say of course he doesn't know
he doesn't know because it's unjustifiable
who do we reach out to
who is the conduit to the fans that the fans are sitting there at your door
right like imagine the nhl like an ice cream truck
right and you're there and you got your money and you're so excited for ice cream
ice cream is hockey in this analogy right you're you're standing there and you're so excited for
ice cream and you start to ask questions about the ice cream because there's actually no signage
on the ice cream truck and you go can i have some ice cream and they go yeah and you go what kind
do you have and you go and they go just give me your money that's essentially what's happening
here you why isn't this a hit or what why isn't this a five why isn't this a fine why isn't this
suspension those are questions we're just throwing out into the ether and who answers it
who answers it do we talk to gary okay do we talk to bill daly okay do we talk to colin campbell
okay do we talk to george peros okay do we talk to ryan getzlaff no uh he's too busy doing podcasts
about how toronto is the devil so who do we speak to about things we don't understand about a sport
that we want to understand better and spend more money on and spend more passion on and attention
on no one we just have to shut up and eat our slop when it comes to this hit jesse is there
anything that you see that goes that i could see why they didn't call that yeah if i look at the
miko rantanen hit from earlier on alexander romanoff earlier when he wasn't suspended
it's a very similar boarding play i thought this should have been a suspension at the time
i thought his subsequent boarding penalty should have also been a suspension but the department
of player safety did not think either of those were suspension worthy but go ahead well i was
gonna say the one bit of defense here is like there's no speed limit on the ice rantanen is
going for a puck he kind of trips over 24 there on the islanders i forget who's 24 and uh he hits
romanoff it's bad it's very very bad and the boarding itself like the actual collision is
very very similar to this the difference is verhagey's going much slower and has no obstacles
in his way to say oh i lost my footing or whatever no he just goes in straight and creams the guy
totally so everyone got up in arms about this uh ranting and thing i think what verhagey did is
worse the the difference i guess uh is zoob isn't out five six months yeah yeah the injury is
different romanov is gonna miss more months with this injury than there have been suspensions this
season there have been four or sorry there have been four hearings and ranting and got one game
because he got kicked out of back-to-back games so that's five even still it won't be it won't
match it so in terms of the defense for the partner player safety i think that's where they
would try to give some sort of hey this is why we did that in this case with verhage but i look at
this incident and i say okay here um ranting in he was given a match penalty which is different
than the call on Verhege that was two minutes for boarding in this subsequent game also a match
penalty also a boarding call and then earlier in the season in a game that Verhege was in and also
laid a vicious check in J.J. Moser was suspended two games for boarding and it was a little more
malicious than the Verhege play but throughout this entire season their defense for anything
they've done in this case for verhage it starts to crumble when you look at how they've tried to
be consistent with the way they've called anything throughout this entire season who is the jj moser
hit against it was in the same game like i said it was i don't remember the player uh who he checked
what was the team the panthers yes i mentioned verhage was also in that game and laid a vicious
hit yeah no no i just for emphasis yeah yeah for emphasis um so i don't think there's any
defend this is the moser play by the way that received two games so the department of player
safety looks at this play on boquist this is terrible it's a terrible hit it is much more
malicious than the verhege play but at the end of the day he was moser was suspended for boarding
which i think this is a malicious boarding but the other one i think it's probably a game probably a
fine at least a misconduct in the game for verhege and i think it's ridiculous that he's given
nothing i don't think there is nearly three games worth of difference no between these two hits
that's exactly it this is two games and the other is two minutes and that to me is so inconsistent
and the incorrect way to manage your game in terms of penalties for the players on the ice so um
I was, I was told about Hanlon's razor when I, when I brought up my conspiracy theory about Colin Campbell and how he's a disgrace and doesn't belong anywhere near the NHL. He should literally be blackballed and he's in the frigging hall of fame. It's a disgrace. So I brought that up and they're like, well, have you ever heard of Hanlon's razor?
and it's basically um you know people use malice to try to explain what can
just as easily be explained by uh incompetence the nhl never attribute to malice that which
can be adequately explained by stupidity there you go oh that's even better that's i should
have just read it i just googled it thank you any relation to hanlon's point no you're in toronto
none oh do they that's isn't that the nude beach do they share i'm pretty sure hitler's point
that where you lost your ring uh no no that was woodbine beach yeah yeah they don't they don't
share any brotherhood hand the two hanlon no so the razor and the point no is the league rigged
in the panthers favor well it's that's a sexy headline more likely they're just bad um they're
just so bad uh and the panthers are smart because they're like girl murder is in and they just
play that style because the nhl saw the four nation face off last year and like a lot of
americans only acknowledge the round robin game and they said violence sells and
one day is someone going to break their neck sure ah but that day hasn't arrived yet so let
the good times roll that's what they've decided this is how we make money this is how we get
people to pay attention beginning middle end unless it the the one little hitch in the giddy
up though in in so i want to let go of the colin campbell thing i do i want to but wait a minute
why was the sposer why was jj moser given a two-game suspension then
no no i thought this was in oh yeah we're trying to sell that but wait a sec you do punish some
people though who are those people what what do they do and who do they do it against
colin campbell got caught trying to influence his son's games was never punished for it and
the question i asked was what reason is there to believe that he ever stopped never got a good
answer from anyone so we'll leave it at that since fans i do think you got a little job there now uh
we got to go to there's a few other things we got to get to on today's show the toronto maple
leaves obviously uh have now claimed 16 of 18 points since mark savard was let go crazy uh they
have the number one power play and the number one penalty kill in the entire league since december
27th excuse me so they a couple of games after savard was fired um and listen i don't know that
you can say hey that that'll last but i don't know that you can't somebody's got to come first
and i look at what they're doing especially on the pk and i go well that seems sustainable
because it's just smart plays sometimes power plays down to luck and finishing and you're not
where players at with their confidence they're not getting blatantly bailed out by the goalie
every time right although their safe percentage is very high yeah yeah uh the the game on saturday
night featured some i mean listen the vancouver canucks are where they are right no last last
and so you know we got to be careful about this but I'm looking at the stretch here
and what I'm seeing are we talking about the Leafs here or the Canucks uh the Leafs okay okay
what I'm seeing from the stretch is a team that's got its confidence back its ability to believe in
itself and they were scoring before William Nylander came back and he comes back and in
the first half an hour he's on the ice he's got three points he didn't even have the greatest like
like there were moments in that game where you're like william right the too many men penalty
william three points he was easing himself back into action yeah yeah yeah
that's a good way to put a test run for willie out there on saturday but they didn't need more
than that he played 13 minutes yeah it was this is fine three points casual three yeah now very
casual for him this is going to be a crazy week and steve i believe you're doing the stream on
thursday night are you not yes yes because that is the mitch marner game that's the first of it
mitch no friday night that's friday night oh wait no it's thursday right sorry following the home
game when he's back home so there's two avalanche games and two vegas games and they're both very
close together and it's screwing up my stupid so leafs avalanche tonight that's going to be a big
game leafs mammoth mammoth are not a exciting they're not an easy thing what's that exciting
or interesting you don't think they're exciting or interesting no what yeah no i uh no no uh sorry
you we adam i need a side quest i need permission for a side quest go
did you see the whistling in utah oh where the fans are whistling in the arena i need a side
quest i need your permission before i go off and go go off on it go so all the fans were whistling
and it was weird and it was interesting and it was the first time i had heard anything about
utah in weeks and i said hey that's kind of neat the next day the players are asked about it
and they're like yeah it's kind of annoying to be honest i wish they'd stop so two things before
you continue your side quest let me play the whistling maddie i'm gonna play the audio you
can't play the video and then i'll play the reaction from a player i think please please do
so here's the whistling that you can hear in utah at the delta center
everybody whistling i love this this is something new at delta center
all right that's the whistling that goes on during play i love it that was they are playing
hockey and everybody's whistling so lawson kraus was asked no okay fine this let me let
let's give everybody the contact pull up clayton keller after i can do that too yeah okay so this
is uh from cole badgley lawson krause's ass hey what do you think of the whistling yeah it's a
little funny but i at times it is a little bit distracting when you're out there but yeah it's
definitely interesting i didn't really know what it was and then i started noticing it in the last
game i really stuck out and we're kind of all like what the heck is that is it disruptive for
you guys and i know that obviously referees have their whistles and line changes can be done with
whistle yeah at times it is for sure i think especially when you're sitting on the bench
and trying to follow the play and um you kind of hear it in the corner of your ear and you're
trying to focus on the game it does become a little bit confusing at times so the reason i
say bring up clayton keller is i don't have too much of a problem with what kraus said
what keller honest so he's just being honest yeah was it disruptive yeah what i'm sitting
there it's a little much you asked him he told you this is clayton keller who is about to go
to the olympics talking about the fans making noise and having fun at the game they paid to be
at no you're you're confusing things what these are home fans and he's telling them it's a little
distracting here we go this is what clayton keller had to say pretty disruptive to be honest um
i don't know where it's uh coming from but if they can maybe quiet that down and do it
after the game or before the game um but a lot of us have noticed it and um
yeah i think it'd be better if it was not a thing to be honest
It's like, I don't know how you do something like this.
Have you ever heard anything like that before?
No, I haven't.
No, I played in Arizona.
I've seen it, I guess, and it was pretty annoying, yeah.
He wants to go back so bad.
He wants to go back to a plywood dressing room and no fans.
So do your rant, and I'm going to tell you why you're wrong.
The reason that stuff stresses me out so much is we have hitched our wagon to the NHL and its teams and its stars.
And at every point, at every turn, they tell fans to go fuck themselves.
And I hate it.
And I think fans hate it too.
anytime the nhl tries the nhl and its fans try to have any fun at all they are criticized for it
and told you're not needed here i'm so sick of it i hate it the first thing i thought of
was that famous clip where nicole yokich is asked about the fans in miami booing him and oh how are
you going to deal with that and he goes i played in serbia brother and then it cuts to clips of
fans tearing the building down in serbia i don't know how those buildings are still standing
i i look at soccer games in south america and soccer games in europe and and uh basketball
games in europe and even some hockey games in europe and i go is there just something wrong
with us do we suck well what if we just suck we have a different approach i would say different
approach whether it sucks is subjective if the world was uh one if you could condense the world
into a house party would anyone invite us and want to we are a bit of a stick in the mud but
the whole society here was based on puritans in the 1600s let's be honest oh lord you can see
where it's sort of the tut tutting comes from i was so so completely turned off by that jesse
why am i wrong in general i 100 agree with you yeah but in this specific instance he's asking
his home fans to not make it worse for the home team which i think is a thing that is done normally
across pro sports like i don't feel like he's doing anything that's out of turn when it's if
it's a football if it's football you cheer when the road team is trying to call their plays and
you're quiet when your home team is trying to call your play yeah same with basketball free throws
That's advantageous to the home team.
The Clippers have built the Intuit Dome,
so it is more distracting for the road team,
and then everything is pristine for the home team.
If he's saying, hey, this is distracting for your own team,
and you're making it harder for them to win games,
I think he should say that.
Do you disagree with that?
Find another way to call out your line.
He also said, could you please do it in between?
He didn't say shut up.
can you do it before or after the game yeah if if they have a particular way they if it's like
hurting your own team he's allowed he should say that should he not i'm gonna read you a tweet that
cole badgley himself sent out who's that he the guy the guy that gave us he's the reporter he's
like the mammoth reporter and he and he's he works for the team sure but to have him saying this
i think is a little unfair because he said collectively the players do not like the
whistling and it is a huge distraction if you want to support the team please do not whistle
here's what here's the solve here if utah as an organization has an issue with this
don't put the players in front of it put an announcement out before the game and say we
love your passion can you please find a different way because it's distracting because i think
there are some i don't know that this is necessarily true but there's some speculation
online about some play some coaches when they want a line change they'll whistle because players lose
track of the time out there and it happens and so they can't yeah that's not speculation yeah
yeah so i believe them so they can't hear the coaches or whatever okay and i and we can compare
this to europe till we're blue in the face and believe me i love doing that sure but the reality
of the situation is we're not europe and these guys are used to not having people at their games
yes also literally how is play stopped and started by a whistle thank you yeah so it doesn't sound
like a human i think i think and and this is coming from a guy who likes to criticize team
pr statements this might have been a good time for one why are we putting lawson kraus and clayton
keller in front of this when the team has a pr team has a digital insider in cole badgley why
don't they just make that statement and why don't they say that on the jumbotron at center ice
before everything and then you clear it up because now you've you've opened your players up to
criticism for criticizing the fans and you never want to put the players if you're pr in a position
to criticize the fans ever if it can be helped like austin matthews getting mad at the leaf fans
for not getting up for ryan reeves's one fight last year i thought that was weird or whatever
understood but i get it but i was so turned off yeah it's also like what are we what are we
pretending here that ryan reeves is a huge part of the on ice product for the toronto maple leaves
like what are we doing what back then this is back last year remember when austin was like well the
crowd didn't get up for reeves the way that they saw and his first fight of the year several months
yeah yeah and and listen if you and we'll go back to the leafs in a second if you saw the domi fight
on saturday night crowd got up for that yeah because he was playing well and he fought when
we talk about how to handle pr this one is a mishandle for me this is a misfire if utah has
an issue then it is on the organization to take care of that you are the one that sets the tone
with your fans the players are trying to play the game and they're trying to do what they can
to sell the game in your market don't put them in a position where they have to tut tut the fans
that's where i think utah screwed up here i don't have it and that's why you're upset about it
because it's it's coming from the players and the players are saying well it's distracting whatever
they just got off the ice the words are not perfect i think steve would have been upset
either way yes but i feel like i feel like what you do is you redirect yeah i don't like it you
redirect shut up you redirect it and go we love chance we love clapping we love cheering the
whistles do distract from our ability to get the right lines on the ice pick anything else we'll
get to pick anything else redirect that's all you got to do okay fine yeah pick anything else
yeah but what that statement and i feel bad for keller here a little bit because again he's just
got off the ice but it makes it seem like oh please don't come to the building that's how
that statement let's just go back to the bubble right yeah and i don't go back to the bubble i
don't think that's a good position to put the players in and i think utah should have probably
got out in front of this that's that would be my but i i like i understood what he was saying i
didn't take it like he doesn't want to play in front of fans i hated his tone i what if that's
just how he talks that might just like people like i don't expect he talks like a brat i don't expect
hockey players to be personable when there's a mic in front of them they've never well i i do
actually that's where i'm different they've never i know they never have i feel like that's a wrong
expectation for these people they are hockey players i expect that they should maybe they
won't they are hockey players first not radio personalities well but you know what jesse
that's where i i think the nhl is wrong i don't expect hockey players to have entertainment value
but other other other sports do and you should see how much bigger they are
right this is some of those players also don't like not every nba play yeah it's exciting it's
true i get it what if kawaii was like hey i don't want you guys to be waving a giant foam finger
or a giant tree branch that says hey plant trees when i'm trying to shoot a free throw
because it's distracting i'd be like yeah that's probably hurting your own team and making free
throw yeah yeah yeah but don't make the players do it that's my point yeah i don't make the players
at all that's my the approach to the how we're getting this message is probably the wrong way
yes i was just like utah and why are we making all places where you should be rolling you're
still in red carpet yeah you should always be in red carpet territory but you should be rolling
at the red carpet for those fans well why are they having cole badgley set out a pr message
like what i was doing here i was just like can someone anyone sell this fucking sport
yeah holy shit and on that i agree with you that's why i think don't make the players do it now also
i would love to know how the whistling started i would too came up with that i would too or better
yet just never fucking do it again no that's way better is there an interesting backstory or should
everyone just shut the fuck up he was i think everyone should just shut the fuck up he was
asked hey is that whistling a little distracting and he was like yeah it is yeah he was asked the
question you're you're upset at him for being asked the question and responding honestly yeah
i i think it speaks to i think for steve it speaks to a larger a larger thing what if his response
sucks of uh uh of players would love to make their money and never have any fans there which i think
is the prevailing thought 7.15 mil or only be there when we're doing well i think that's quite
the jump like i i heard lawson kraus talk and i'm like yeah he said that's i've never heard that
before it's distracting and those are a fan i didn't have a problem with the way kraus put it
see no you're just upset at clayton keller's attitude in his answer yeah well andy's clayton
keller like it he's the star of that team it matters more but both guys just said the same
thing in different tones yeah it matters i i heard that and i just like yeah he answered a question
and i don't expect his tone to be perfect well here jesse here's the good news it's hockey and
no one saw it okay let's move on please two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer

Toronto Maple Leafs.
Toronto Maple Leafs.
uh saturday night uh fans did get up for a a domey fight and when we talk about
uh i don't even really need to get into the game it's the vancouver canucks they're not having a
great season thatcher demko immediately goes on the ir during this game yeah uh which i feel
horrible for canucks fans it's like everything sucks right now six shot and i felt bad for him
and they they really like and lincoln came in did an okay job but he's had a bad year
first year of a five-year deal like this is just compounding we also found out on friday and i
confirmed this with rick dolly while that there's rumors out there they tried to give a vanderkane
back to the oilers like it's just the canucks leave that period with the lead nine times out
of ten you mean the first one yeah yeah yeah they yep outshot them 15 to 6 and had four power plays
and all legitimate power plays too there were too many men's two too many men's and two high
sticks they were definite power plays and a near full two minute four on three because uh mccabe
like just tried to rearrange patterson's face yep yeah oh yeah you know like game management
oh come on you've already given them here let's see the replay oh yeah thank god for the penalty
kill yep thank man i i was the leafs did everything in their power to hand that to the
canucks and they were down three nothing i found vancouver to be not a slow moving team but it's
slow moving the puck they can't make a pass their their passes go nowhere and the leafs
who aren't a quick team were able to just feast on any opportunity that they had when vancouver
trying to work through the neutral zone or like enter the zone like everything was being broken
up and the leafs aren't that like i don't know i didn't expect the leafs to look like that but
against competition that can't compete on that level
with the Leafs.
The Leafs look great.
Yeah.
And yeah, like you said,
they were doing everything to give Vancouver this game,
but Vancouver couldn't take advantage of any of it.
No.
It was a really poor effort by them.
I think they're just not very good.
And so I want to go, as I was saying,
I want to go more on the track of where they are
versus what this game was.
I saw somebody tweet this, and I forget who it is.
I think it might be Sam McKee,
But he said, or was it Michael Amato?
Michael Amato, who's a great fantasy follow on hockey Twitter.
Michael said, against all odds, the Toronto Maple Leafs have become likable.
And I want to talk about.
It's a great tweet.
I want to talk about that a little bit, because this was something we talked about last year.
And when the Leafs were struggling at the beginning of this season, people were like, you know, took the cheap shot of, well, you got what you wanted.
You wanted Marner out.
and you know one thing that i noticed was there was the domey fight and then there was the easton
cowan scrum where he's trying to fight but the linesmen are getting in the way almost fight and
domey loved it and he's slamming a stick on the thing and you could see him like this guy fucking
rocks like he said something like that about easton cowan one of the things that we saw when
the jays went to the world series was a really likable team that liked each other and the entire
city got behind it the toronto maple leafs the last couple of years have felt like we're gonna
play here despite our dislike of the fans whether or not that's true that's how it felt and i do
think you know it's been openly talked about now even cj said it last week what ran marner or what
is perceived to have run run marner out of town was not the media but the social media right that's
what that was sort of what was said on the cj show sure um this is where you hire a social
media manager but i i i digress no just dm when we have when we have talked about the least we're
talking about this time last year we were talking about yeah but none of it matters until they show
us in the playoffs right none of it matters right this year that's not the conversation
no this year everybody's just in the moment again watching the team and over this last little bit
you see like incredible gutsy efforts like scott lawton against philadelphia and then again
against vancouver you know he's i think he's run of his last 60 or 80 face-offs he's run one like
he's only lost like five or six of them he's on a crazy crazy run um austin matthews is scoring
again uh we didn't talk about william nailing because he wasn't even playing but he is back
and that's exciting he didn't play and he had three points you had to put bobby mcmahon on
the fourth line because uh because willie came back where else do you put them and where else
do you put them yeah the third line you put bobby mcmahon on the fourth line because you don't want
to break up the robertson cow and wah line and they continue to go out there and cause trouble
and create great scoring chances troy stetcher is probably the the most popular toronto maple
leafs defenseman i've seen since like i don't know dimitri uskevich like he is people happy
will die for this guy oh yeah and and it's funny because if you're listening to this and you're
like an oiler fan you're like troy troy stetcher uh or flames oh they've been watching or vancouver
fans because he played for all three teams it's there is what we were talking about in previous
years on this show was there a there was a character likability problem they were they're
highly paid underachievers in an ivory tower and all we know about them is they hate you
or at least that's how it felt it sure is and well and isn't isn't that what matters most
this year when i see easton cowan score the overtime goal i watch nick robertson who requested
a trade 18 months ago mob him yes uh when i see easton cowan getting into a fight again easton
Cowan's a rookie and and Max Domi and all the other guys going yeah let's go let's go boys
I see Max Domi in a fight with his tongue out of his mouth smiling at a guy who is six or seven
inches taller than him Marcus Patterson is six five Max Domi's five ten it's crazy and he and
he beat and he filled him with both fists Domi is a little over 200 pounds Patterson is 175
that's why they have weight classes and not height classes right yeah and you see goaltending
starting to come together oh my god and and so i just wanted to i wanted steve and i get to watch
from home but i want to start with jesse on this one jesse you saw obviously the game in person on
saturday night you also saw morgan riley and scott lawton chirping easton cowan down the hallway in
the post game on on thursday night in philadelphia because of that tiktok right where he was dancing
yeah that was in philly that was in philly but you have seen this year's team a little bit up
further up close than most of us have do you sense a difference in that dressing room yeah they're
definitely right now well it's the winning they're winning like that's seven oh and two that's that's
at the end of the day it's everything if they're winning everything's fine everybody likes you
when you're not when you're getting points in every single game you don't drop any losses in
regulation like that's that's the long and the short of it with the least team and liking them
and i i don't know if it should be the mentality of every least fan to not get too ahead of
themselves sure because we've seen how this team operates for the last i don't know 100 years of
toronto maybe it's hockey and that this is a really good three-week stretch yes but let's not
write the season narrative on that this is a real test here the western a pair of western road trips
and then you head into the olympic break 100 like there's plenty of time for this to go in either
direction where they win the division and who knows what happens after that or they go back
to mediocre so i think it's it's been great vibes from everybody top down in that organization
bradshaw living is probably very happy with everything that's happened and craig berube
is not looking at uh the openings around the league anymore and everything's good but let's
not write the entire season and say this is how it's gonna be and that we now like the leafs uh
permanently moving forward it does feel more likable though like we have to say that right
does this not feel better yeah it is the winning but they were winning last year and they didn't
feel likable so i'm sorry it isn't just the winning it's not it's not expected winning
that was expected they set a standard last year last year meant nothing yeah like in terms of
the regular season it was oh we expect them to win we'll see how we get to playoffs and that's it
this year it's different different vibes all coming into this year and then they start off
dog shit and then they rebound and now that they've rebounded everything's fine again the
Leafs played something between 250 and 350 consecutive
meaningless regular season games.
Yes.
And it had an effect on the way we look at the team
and the psyche of the fan base.
How so?
We just lived for April every year.
Well, okay, they won last night on February 3rd or whatever.
All right.
how did they do in April?
Oh,
they won their home opener.
Love that.
81 games to go.
How are they going to do in April?
And the answer nearly every April was pretty shit.
And then sometimes we were blessed enough that may showed up and it wasn't
much better twice.
Actually,
we were blessed enough that may showed up and they lost in such spectacular
fashion both times that it completely wiped out their first round victory even a game seven loss
oh my holy that was so bad though it wipes the good of the series yeah like the game five and
seven you keep bringing it up adam but jesse and i after game four i think it was or was it game
game five game five where we described how it was gonna go you said they get their ass kicked
we're like they're going to win they did and they're going to get killed and they did yes uh
they're playing meaningful games now yes because they need to win these games and they are doing
it which is really cool sometimes like people people have been like let's say the leaves do
end up making the playoffs is this stretch that they've gone through the worst thing for them
obviously not right this is the first bit of real adversity they've faced in years nine years
since probably this is their first bit of post-covid adversity yeah yeah literally yep
yeah in the regular season you know let's see what they're made of let's see what they're made
of and i mean tonight tonight's going to be an interesting test like colorado oh yeah so
flipping good but a month ago the answer to what are they made of is a bad hockey team they are
made of a bad bad hockey team right yeah so like i feel like as we sit here today leafs awesome
like leafs awesome fantastic but to think like oh this is just gonna continue forever i can't say
that i think if they if they lost a bunch of games on this road trip and then the next road trip
and Morgan Riley has a breakaway and he misses the net completely,
you're going to come on here and be like,
this guy needs to wave his no move and get rid of him.
I still think he might.
And then all of a sudden, they're not likable anymore.
So I'm not really set on the narrative around it.
But to say, Jesse, that it's not different from the previous,
I do think it's an important distinction.
I do think people are liking these and whatever the reasons may be.
Today.
Today.
Yes.
and listen there's no permanence in sports so saying today it's like well yeah you can say
that anytime but my point is this is a there is a likable character quality to this team
that we haven't seen before and i'm saying that's that can that'll be very fleeting
if they lose if like no matter what happens it's it's that's a that's a feeling that's in the air
right now and that's cool you know but that's it i assume we're going to talk about the devils and
we talked about like okay but what if this happens and then so far all of it has happened
and we knew what we expected at the end of it.
Leafs, vibes are at an all-time high right now.
You got Colorado in Colorado tonight.
You're lucky to get out of there with a point.
You probably lose based on how many games have they lost in regulation?
Is it zero?
At home, zero.
Zero.
Yeah.
Undefeated at home in regulation so far this season.
Zero's a pretty low number.
I don't know if you can get lower.
Right?
and you could people would be like oh they've been hot they lost they've been hot it's colorado
ah all right next night you play loot uh utah whistling utah whistling utah and
no one's whistling anymore so they win eight nothing uh-oh and no they whatever they win
now you've lost two straight and you're like you know what i expected the utah the colorado loss
Utah stings a bit and then you have a day off and then it's Vegas and cannot you cannot lose
that game let's just call it what it is you can't lose you want to win that game very very very badly
if you have a bad road trip here where you go for three vibes are gone so is your
uh playoff spot at least by points percentage Kevin Pappetti pointed that out today they're
in a playoff spot five points percentage wait i was like hey it's good but ultimately you need to
to get those points um i don't think they're gonna go for three no but it's like jesse said
it's fleeting you gotta earn your place in this league every day i love the 25 toronto blue jays
to even compare them to this leafs team i think is is offside that wasn't comparable i wasn't
saying that it was comparable but what what it was in october when we were talking about it and
we said this openly was the Jays were amazing and likable and you liked
every single person separately for their own thing.
The Leafs were extraordinarily unlikable.
Yeah.
And I'm saying like,
that's a team that's likability is set in cement and this is one that's
set in sleet.
Okay.
All right.
Interestingly enough,
every,
the Toronto Maple Leafs are on like a,
just a torrid stretch here.
Seven,
one and two in their last 10.
And so is everybody ahead of them.
That's so annoying.
Montreal is six,
two and two in their last 10.
And Tampa is on a nine-game winning streak,
9-1-0 in their last 10.
And Detroit is 7-2-1,
and they're on a three-game winning streak.
So, you know, it's just one of those things.
The Leafs have not lost in regulation
for nine straight games.
They have lost ground on the Lightning.
Yeah, well, I think everybody's lost ground on the Lightning.
I know, but it's just so annoying.

maybe just a less burdened you uh maybe tuned up you know and you got to do an oil change on a car
tell us about it jesse since you've done so many you got it so you open the hood uh-huh
yeah this is where it gets he's already wrong but yeah and then you put new oil
no jesse that's basically it you got to lift the thing up and the oil comes out the bottom
yeah you drain the oil yeah but you don't open up the hood adam this is about therapy
all right well i'm gonna need after listening to you explain how a car works you can you can
hoist your your your brain or you can open up the hood of your brain however you see it in your head

Now, the other thing we got to talk about is Chris Johnson in Milan.
This rink story kind of blew up a little bit.
I mean, it's blown up a few times, but Chris tweeted about the quality of the ice on Friday
and people got mad at him because he said there was a hole in the ice.
And sometimes that happens when you got new ice in.
But we also, I believe, that the ice is going to be pulled out again and then redone because there's some concrete and construction dust in it.
So it's not as white as it should be.
Well, they got months.
Well, they don't.
They got 22 days.
Oh.
And CJ starts the article like this.
The coldest place to stand in the bone-chilling Santa Guila arena this weekend was right next to me.
Organizers didn't exactly warm up to a visitor from Canada who made the trip over to lay eyes on the still under construction primary hockey venue for the Milan Cortina Olympic Tournament, particularly after calling attention to the five plus minute delay in Friday's opening test game to repair the hole in the ice.
They objected to the fact that I referred to it as a giant hole, a large soft spot in front of one of the nets was evident to the naked eye before the puck even dropped on the Italian Cup game between two second league division men's teams.
That informed my characterization when the game was delayed and the official skated on the ice carrying a green watering can to pour water onto the ice in the arena.
Now, yes, which they they picked up the green water can from the Ministry of Italian Stereotypes.
how is that the only thing laying around now what's interesting is jesse uh if we can pull
up cj's twitter account he's got videos on this and first off it is a very nice looking arena
from the outside especially at night it's all lit up uh looks beautiful but among the things
that remain unfinished were um the fact that the zambonis really don't have a place to be housed
they're in and out good the the dressing rooms are not done but you can you can pull off an
interior reno pretty quick you can uh i will give them that okay uh you got to be working around a
clock to do these dressing rooms though and the fact that it doesn't look like there will be food
service in the arena you'll have to go outside to uh to see it but these are the dressing rooms
right now this is cj's direct video no adam those aren't the dressing rooms that is scaffolding
that is scaffolding and drywall yes but steve you gotta have vision all right
have a little vision you can't really call that the dressing rooms future home of the dressing room
um guys it's the construction stereotypes are dying before our eyes like what what's going on
here guys we need stuff now everyone's talking about the nhl players and the men and the men
and the men the women's games start i think three or four days earlier the fifth i believe
yeah right on the fifth yeah and then the men don't get started to like the tenth
these will not be done by the time they play games there's a couple that are already done
that they use for the test event so i assume they'll try and use those but like they need a
lot more there's how many teams yeah they need a lot more than those do me a favor can you uh go
down in chris's article to the scoreboard i need to see this one picture okay uh it's in his article
it's about uh halfway down through the article because when you see this on screen i've got i've
got some things to lay out for you because listen you might as a as a fan who's not going you don't
care where the zambonis are you don't care if there's food in the rink what do you care you're
watching at home it's also cold in the arena yeah arenas are cold but not usually this cold i cheer
for fans i want the fans to have a good time you do you do i want them but ultimately if it's a
great tournament and somebody can't get a hot dog inside do you care no you don't care i guess i
think this is actually pretty relevant this this particular thing can we bring this up that's the
scoreboard and no the scoreboard above santa guila arena was too small for players to see the time
remaining that is the caption underneath can i see the spelling of the adam santa julia santa
julia okay all right i was like santa i'm positive that's wrong okay oh there you go okay santa julia
sorry it looks like they gave up on building the second half of the seats in the arena and just put
in this like temporary thing i think that's exactly what that's either that's 100 what
happens it's either the world's smallest jumbotron or biggest tamagotchi i cannot tell the same with
the roof looks like it's gonna be torn down right after the events like this arena isn't
gonna be there right this is a place that's expected to live for three weeks and then it's
done i guess i don't know i don't know i'm making guesses here but it's it's it's a very
put together building where it definitely looks like it's not the i was hoping that this arena
would be like the start of you know getting italians into hockey right it's like hey this
is our real this is our big arena and and this is the thing that sort of turns the sport from
of a far like an aftermarket there are italian leagues and that sort of thing sure but it isn't
it isn't anywhere close to where it could be like where it is right across the border in
switzerland right right i was hoping this and i still hope it does but obviously like we are now
like we have not on this show made a big deal of this now it's a little bit like okay that sounds
a little concerning even if they find a way to finish this it's unacceptable uh the fact that
we're three weeks out uh and we're like oh we think they'll get it done like an optimist
is like we think we'll get it we think they'll get it done that's not acceptable what it's this
is the olympics how does it still look like you just started the thing that's not acceptable
and this is the arena they play on like the the practice rink is supposedly a joke yeah the
practice rink is even less done uh elliot friedman was saying that they looked into
uh team canada looked into bus it was elliot or chris looked into busing the players an hour and
a half outside of milan i believe it might have been into switzerland to practice because the
practice rink might not be available or they thought it might not be yeah i'm not saying
that that's still the case but they and they said it's probably too much but they did look into
that's what we want we want our olympic athletes to sit on a bus spine nicely compressed hip flexors
as shortened as possible and stiffened up and then getting on the ice and then coming off yeah
and then playing against like i don't know team finland the next day that sounds great what are
we doing uh uh so a a player who actually scored the winning goal um talked about this a little bit
his name is ryan valentini 2-1 win on saturday he scored the winning goal and he said uh he couldn't
see the scoreboard he said it was too high up and obviously it's a little too small the other thing
is he said uh they were cramped in the four dressing rooms uh he said teams will cj says
teams will exclusively occupy these dressing rooms during intermission breaks while playing
at the olympics but they are a long way off what you'd find even as a visitor in the nhl
wow with no individual stalls for players just a series of small hooks to hang equipment on
and there was a picture of the hooks here there you go that you get that get a canadian tire
that's it i literally bought that a canadian tire you give like six guys from bowmanville a case of
beer and they will build you something better than this is it by the way for anybody listening
it's a metal bench with two rows of hooks hanging up the back not does it look like it's attached
the wall it might be but but it doesn't even look like oh i don't know if it is maybe it's
oh yeah i'm sure that's anchored in there nice and tight no shot no shot what is this
oh my god now i want this tournament to be good everyone's tournament to be good
um i know frege frege did say on saturday night that that uh there was a player he was talking to
or a person on the ground that he got video footage from and uh that sydney crosby should
dominate uh the player said because of the tight neutral zone this will lend itself perfectly to
a guy like sit oh yeah the tight corners the tight uh neutral zone everything yeah so hey
whatever it takes but you know this is kind of i don't know this is sort of like a quirky story
that probably goes away but it is pretty interesting and remember whenever you go
through life and you feel like there are people uh more adult or smarter no there isn't there are
no adults anywhere not one please remind yourself of that if you're ever feeling insecure you can
do literally anything you want in this life no some kids are mature that's about it yeah that's
about as far as it gets there oh man he's pretty mature for 53 they're gonna play hockey yeah of
course gonna be every game's gonna be get played it's gonna be fine the arena probably for the
fans is gonna be a little wonky and not up to standard at all of what we're compared to in here
north america and around the world with built arenas the dress rooms are probably gonna be
awful for the players and what they're used to the players are gonna fall through the floor like
Dark Knight Rises. There'll be a giant
hole in the ice and everything will be fine. But like
I all the games are going to get played.
Yeah, I think at the end of the day
that's all that really matters.
It's going to be ugly and the Italian
construction name is
going to take a hit here. Oh no, we can't
have that. But
they built North America. Are you kidding me? But when
it comes down to Canada versus
USA, that thing is going to get
played. Now the last thing I want
to hit before we wrap the show and it's a short one.
couple of things New Jersey Devils have also lost four straight uh like them and the Sens they are
two seven and one in their last 10 they lost to the Jets they lost to the Jets who are bad that
was a game that we flagged and Jesse I sent you an email uh and we finally got a look at what's
underneath Jack Hughes's glove we'll talk about Dougie Hamilton in a second I think this is the
more concerning part because what you know there is the difference the difference between being
able to play and not being able to play there's the glove right there okay so he supposedly cut
this on some glass at a bar uh on a team dinner like over a month ago no no this is he was out
for like six weeks yeah yeah so this is two months ago at least which is over a month which is what
okay yeah and then so there's the there's the time that you get back to the stop it you guys
jesus christ uh i would never interrupt you these two you know he can play but is he playing at 100
100%. Right. And I think that that shows that you probably are not going to be able to get
100% out of Jack Hughes if we're taking truth serum. How do you grip the glove the same way?
I'm sure you could put painkillers or whatever, but there's so many little things happening in
your hand, right? Tendons and muscles and all that stuff. Forget the pain. Let's pretend he's
in absolutely none. How do you move your wrist properly? So for those of you who are just
listening his entire pinky on his right hand which is his top hand is covered in is that tape or a
splint or what looks like a splint it's weird it's like this half thing that goes over half of his
palm and all the way down to his wrist and then the other side is pink what looks like
fabric i guess and then his the the meat of his wrist into his forearm is very very tightly taped
that's going to restrict so much like take your hand right now and make a fist but just starting
from your finger look at all the little shit that's moving around like i'm not a doctor but
this looks not great doc um and i'm surprised he's able to do anything like forget stick handling
forget shooting a puck or passing how do you defend yeah again that's his top hand right
how's he supposed to stick check anyone poke check anyone how does this guy win a face off
yep this is no bueno no bueno i'm sure what jack has available to him is better than what's
available to the to most of the rest of us we are not multi-million dollar ponies for a billionaire
owner right no one gives a shit about us but things have not been going well for the devils
and they definitely haven't been going well for jack dougie hamilton was also scratched healthily
uh in order to make room for jonathan kovacevich and pierre lebrun uh reached out to 15 nhl gms
and said, no, I'm kidding.
He reached out to J.P. Berry
and J.P. Berry's response,
J.P. Berry being the agent for Dougie Hamilton.
Dougie was informed today
that he will not be playing now
that Kovacevic is back in the lineup.
In our view, this decision is all about business
rather than his game right now.
Singling him out seems very calculated at this stage.
Dougie has a 10-team trade list,
which would mean a 22-team no-trade list.
And there have been efforts to trade him
going back to the draft last year,
we made it clear to the Devils
that we will consider teams outside our list
and creative ways to get a team
that is mutually acceptable.
So Hamilton camp is willing to be flexible
beyond the 10 team list
if it means finding suitable trade.
Now, Tom Fitzgerald said,
as you know, we put Nemech
back in the lineup on Thursday.
He's a young guy who we want
getting his game back
where he had been easily
our best defenseman before his injury.
Pesci's play speaks for himself.
He isn't going anywhere.
And Kovacevic coming back
gives our roster a spark that we're looking for.
And he was our best defenseman of all last year.
That's what we want to do with our lineup now.
This is simply Dougie being the odd man out
where the right side is fully healthy
for the first time this year.
This is a business.
This is the business of our lineup.
Now, I've never seen a general manager
respond to each single player
on the right side of a lineup
explaining why they should be
putting this person in over anybody else i've never seen that i'm sure it's happened i can't
remember it and i think that's really interesting because tom fitzgerald's under a huge amount of
pressure right now at least from the fans we don't know about ownership i think he's about to gm his
last game as gm of the devils you think so huh yeah um the the rumor was that dougie hamilton
they tried to trade him to san jose he nixed that deal and that was this summer i think he should
have taken that deal that would have been awesome for the sharks he would have had a blast wow there
too he would have had a blast dougie dougie hamilton is still a very good player still if
he is still a very good player offensively and he still does well defensively he has like 10 points
i didn't realize how bad of a season he's had like i saw that and was stunned he's not a nine
million dollar player no it's fair to say no what's crazy is john klingberg who might have a
job in san jose uh because of dougie's decision has 10 goals yeah steve i'm surprised first of
all that this wasn't higher in the show because of your i thought you would come in here and freak
out a little bit more at jp barry's accusation towards the devils because in steve dangle if i
may quote him would he not think this is some sort of match fixing that jp barry is accusing
the devils of doing because he's saying they did not ice their best lineup in this case he's saying
they scratched dougie hamilton for political reasons personal reasons they want him to wave
they wanted him to ways they're upset with him and they intentionally didn't play him because of
those reasons and didn't play their best lineup that was available to them do you disagree with
jp berry uh what i think would have been the way more funny outcome is uh if jp berry releases
the statement and then the devils go you know what you're right we're gonna play dougie and
then scratch simon nemich because then he would have to release a statement on behalf of his other
client simon nemich jp berry represents 71 players it's roughly 10 of the nhl league what
when you put it in those terms adams that's crazy there's about 800 now i think he represents one in
like every 11 or 12 players his agency i'm sure he's not making personal phone yeah so it's a it's
not it's not created equal he works for caa which is the largest talent agency in the world they
represent every big celebrity you could ever name so it's not him managing them in the same way that
an agent with eight clients would be managing them this is a giant conglomerate and he is
heading up a division that represents all of those players he's not personally representing
them all no i'm just going by uh yes caa sports llc i'm just going by uh puckpedia total he has
71 contracts total value 700.8 million wow he is somewhat uh powerful oh yeah in this league
he has six red wings what agent has six guys on one team that's friggin nuts um it's a mess
in new jersey i like this isn't to me this isn't just a guy going to bat for his player like the
what the way i read it is he's trying to help along tom fitzgerald getting fired
well and i mean is that how you read it a hundred percent i mean he's getting it from everywhere
the walls are closing in yep you're fucked what's tom fitzgerald supposed to do how does he write
the ship other than his team magically starts winning games he's already tried to make trades
and failed and so now he's trying to turn the screws on dougie to try to get him to wave so
that he could get him off the books so that he can maybe do some other stuff right because that's
what you gotta do my number's coming up see that's the conversation he's got to be having
with ownership if i just turn the screws on hamilton and i could trade him and i will have
enough cap space that i could do this and that will be really cooking tom it's over tom i mean
they make things uncomfortable for players right before they get traded and i think that's what
the devils are finally doing they you're allowed to trade dougie hamilton i don't know why didn't
they just do it right they couldn't they couldn't find anybody on the 10 teams that they that he
would accept a trade to and the team that would accept them san jose he didn't want to go which
he should have called us uh i would have sold his ass on san jose uh but but i think i think
two guys like i think the devils are need to be on devil's management they should be accused of
not being ruthless enough because when they knew they had a two-year window in which Quinn Hughes
was going to get moved, everybody kind of saw it coming, right? Unless the Vancouver Canucks came
flying out of the gate this year and they were challenging for the division lead, which they did
a couple of years ago and won it. You know, there was a pretty good, I mean, there was a reason
there were rumors about Quinn Hughes. Sure. The Devils, I think, thought they had a whole season
to think about it and could do it at the draft but when you are not prepared you prepared to fail
and they failed in their pursuit of quinn hughes because a i don't think that they could have
matched the wild and what they gave b they didn't have the cap space exactly and if quinn hughes
probably i bet you quinn hughes probably had a little bit of say about where he went like i bet
vancouver gave him a little bit of like hey if new jersey if it was between new jersey and minnesota
I'm sure had that deal been able to be done,
Quinn probably would have said,
well, I'd like to go play with my brothers
and Vancouver would have granted that
for what he's given them.
But I look at this and I go,
you, your chance and your opportunity to be vicious
in the way that Vegas can be vicious
was spring, summer last year, right?
After you got booted in five games in the playoffs.
That's when you're vicious.
That's when you got to be tough.
And I would, the Toronto Maple Leafs
are a perfect example of this.
You were not hard enough on these guys,
and then they had their no trades kick in,
and then they left, right?
And Mitch Marner's the perfect example.
With a cautionary tale.
Now, mid-season, in what looks to be a lost season,
they got to be hard on Dougie,
and I wonder what they're going to do with Andre Palat.
Are they going to be tough on him, too?
Probably.
Yeah, everybody wants him out.
But even if they were tough on Andre Palat,
who's taking that contract?
Exactly.
Well, and everyone knows Fitzgerald is basically
if you're on the phone with him
he's trying to save his job yes
so they're throwing you anchors
yeah somebody's gonna get Dougie Hamilton
for so cheap and he's gonna go
off do you think that they maybe do you
think that maybe the deal with Dougie Hamilton is
not retention based but
okay we're gonna trade you bad
money but the bad money expires at the
end of the season expires earlier than
Dougie Hamilton's it's a lot
well what if you trade 4
million back right
and it's 4 or 5 million you don't want
It's a lot of money.
It's a lot of money.
I think some teams can do that.
At Dougie Hamilton at $7 million.
I think Dougie Hamilton has it in him
to still be a $9 million defenseman.
I'm not willing to just write him off
and be like, ah, this is it.
He's too overpaid.
I think he's in a situation that's untenable,
and it's been like that for a while,
and I think you're so right
in that Tom Fitzgerald backed himself
into a corner with this roster construction
and didn't allow himself
to be flexible at all with this roster and he had a chance over the course of the summer to
make more moves and he sat on his hands and now he fucked himself what i always say is good players
don't forget how to play hockey dougie hamilton played 64 games last year he had nine goals 31
assists 40 points that's obviously offense it doesn't give you the defensive picture but
that's those are really good numbers man the season before that he only played 20 games he
had 16 points and we all know what he's capable of right and like i don't think that's lost forever
there's a reason he got that contract it's possible the injuries have caught up with him
and maybe he's just perma cooked i'm gonna bet on give him some time and you bet on talent there
yeah it's a matter of like woods is somebody out there willing to take that bet and i think they
are and it i think it'll be a good bet we'll see how it plays out but i'm willing to to say that
dougie hamilton can go somewhere and be a decent defenseman you're gonna have to like i think you're
just gonna have to take a shit sandwich back well hey don't want to you know it might make a little
bit of sense what i mean if you can get him to wave uh wouldn't a left shot puck moving defenseman
look good on the new york or on the new jersey devils you're kidding i'm just saying roughly
the same amount of money you're kidding me roughly the same amount of money morgan no no no i'd like
to see doggie hamilton with the leafs i'd like to see what he could do i would i would i would
i think kick down brad for living's door would you yeah why yeah well just context matters do
something okay well now it's do nothing season and the vibes are immaculate and you're gonna
trade morgan who's everybody loves who everyone loves and is at very minimum having a great
offensive season he is yeah well he's putting up points yeah there you go there i changed it
relax for dougie hamilton who's having a nightmare season and even though i think he's gonna bounce
back there's no guarantee he does and costs more yeah it's also it doesn't make sense for their
lineup because luke hughes exists and it's like okay yeah so we're gonna get older not as talented
has proven he's not luke hugh longer contract longer contract morgan riley put him behind
luke hughes to play i'm just allow me allow me to treat uh new jersey the way people treat toronto
because people are like well whatever we're just going to get quinn hughes and free agency anyway
oh yeah a great way to attract quinn hughes is to boo his brother on home ice well that was after
though what is it with you know it's just a shame the new jersey fans drove quinn hughes out of town
i think just a shame they drove i don't think that happens in the real nhl first off oh wow
second wow vancouver fans you i know things aren't going well for you right now but you have the
chance to do the funniest thing and you start churning the waters on when does jack leave new
jersey for minnesota that's when you need to start you need to start poking that bear you know what
i know he's got a lot of years left but start poking that bear canucks fans have the opportunity
to i like where you're going with this adam like really embrace the rebuild by ruining everyone
else's time canucks fans are a cantankerous group too they can get they can get behind
Patrick Alvey and Jim Rutherford need to work the phones because you're selling.
That's the easiest thing to do.
Hey, it's a first round pick for Kiefer Sherwood.
Oh, and a prospect.
Also, go fuck yourself.
Like, it's the easiest thing.
Yeah.
In your spare time, since your job is very easy, you know you're going to be busy for a handful of days in March.
Just fuck with everyone else.
That's what I'm saying.
Let's do it.
By the way.
You know what?
When Pierre is doing a, you know, we asked.
40 GMs.
X amount of GMs.
Make sure you're one of those GMs.
Absolutely.
Man, if I was a GM, I'd want to be on that.
I'd be fucking with that other team so bad all the time.
There's 32 teams in this league,
and I have an opportunity to raise the price
on one of the stars for one of them.
I couldn't call him fast enough.
No, I'd be like, what's your next one, Pierre?
oh my god um hey just a quick last question to uh in the tri-state area uh new york rangers
are betman 500 46 points already six out of a playoff spot and three five and two and shisterkin
injured um they've been the leading candidate to pick up keifer sherwood uh do you i they can't
possibly do that right sure they can they're the rangers jesse do you think the rangers know where
they're at and know what they are i think chris jury thinks he knows what he's at where he's at
and what he should be doing would we he's wrong would we agree with him no no we would not agree
with him chris jury he doesn't know what he's doing okay and james dolan believes in him for
no god good reason like it's fucking awful because well he's playing with his dad band
like i like jury the rangers are a side hustle you know they are percent you know like it's
there's passion project you know it's okay it's okay to have a hobby now mike sullivan said he
was out of answers i'm like you just fucking got here and you already don't know what after they
what was the final score 10-2 yeah against boston on sunday yep after they put up a whole bunch of
bad performances and jt miller the highlights of him not skating around the ice when they're down
six goals or whatever it is how is that man your captain how did you give him the captaincy when
he played no games for this team and then he shows up this season and is just jt miller in vancouver
on steroids uh that's it's just ridiculous that the way they're running this operation i think
they would be they would they would do well with a complete teardown as it is right now and uh you
move forward who knows what's gonna happen with panarin either that's just a question that's just
out there it's like hey we're gonna trade them for 10 cents on the dollar or lose them to free
agency um can i that's a disaster a completely insane stat they can't be trading him that
rangers game you might have to panarin oh panarin he's a ufa what are you gonna do bring him back
i guess he's got 49 points he's got a lot of points on a shitty team yeah how much winning
they've done with them not a lot not a lot that's fair a couple of conference finals
birth murat kuznetdinov oh my god has played 132 nhl games he has 15 goals and 36 points
in those 132 nhl games 26.6 percent of the goals he scored in his career came in that game
and 13.8 percent of his career points
came in that game sunday against the or sunday saturday saturday saturday against the uh rangers
insane stat line yeah yeah insane stat line also posture not who i have in fantasy six assists you
love that i'm real pretty you love that that was pretty chill everyone's like oh minton scored
twice i'm like yeah you can't ruin my mood today don't worry i'm happy about this one so just a
schedule reminder that we are going to be in peterborough tomorrow releasing the episode
uh we'll be talking a lot about the ohl top prospects tournament's going to be a blast
and then of course uh wednesday uh ohl commissioner brian crawford joins us from
peterborough as well and then we will be back friday too because we also have that show so
there's a lot going on good to take time off yeah hell yeah we're back on fire baby i'm ready and
You are still doing your LFRs late, right?
Yes, but they will not be released until the morning.
Oh, okay.
So don't stay up until 3 a.m. expecting one?
No.
Okay.
Do not.
All right.
