Starting point is 00:02:02 this is only the second time in this show's history that we've gotten to do a hey they one around episode unbelievable the last time we were in our brand new sdpn studios two years ago brand new jesse built with his own hands i didn't brick by brick brick by brick i didn't all by himself i exposed we hired a no one else in sight yeah that's right not a soul uh oh game six leaf sense canadian tire center uh 160 000 people tuned into steve's live stream last night 160 000 uh it was i it was a game for the ages and by the way what was crazy was that there were two other games for the ages that immediately took place right afterwards like yo it the first round is 10 nukes aimed at a hurricane last night all going off at once
Starting point is 00:02:58 unhinged unhinged oh it the first round is awesome last night was awesome unless you're a wild exciting finish by the way to the wild game too even i'll give them that or a king's fan yeah i know so i mean the wild ending was far less depressing yes it was yeah yeah um now let's talk about let's go through this goal by goal oh okay let's oh my god kid here give it to me what i can't help but hear the comments i hear them what are the comments i expected this to be more high energy and hey i'm only halfway through this i'm gonna get there we're all dragging ass we were all up so late last night yep it's like 1 30 we're all texting each other i'm like oh no i hoped some of us would be in bed no but nope jesse what time did you get to bed
Starting point is 00:03:48 i'm not too late like one whatever whatever the avs uh stars game ended that oh my god how did i forget about that one yeah i was up watching the final minutes of that that was insane yeah yeah whenever that was ended it got the final minutes edmonton uh la was insane and actually insane yeah um and you know what that's okay it's playoff time it's time to drag some ass yes let's Drag our ass to the show. Drag that ass. Now, Brady Kachuk promised Sens fans that they'd be back, and he made good on that promise.
Starting point is 00:04:17 You know what? If this is a building year, I don't know how you feel bad as a Sens fan with the general outcome. You'd rather win than get eliminated. But, I mean, as eliminations go, This is very, I would say, there are things that remind me of the Leafs cap series from 2017. It's an up-and-coming team. You had some real statement wins in there, some real statement moments.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Yes, you did almost get swept. You didn't. If you had been, I wouldn't have lost my voice last episode. You forced game six. You were down 2-0. You came back. You tied it. And, yeah, the Leafs ended up getting the better of you,
Starting point is 00:05:06 but the Sens will be better for this. Yes. Yes. Now, going through the start of the game, you know, I want to jump right to the Austin Matthews goal. Well, the story, to me, begins before the game with, oh, Max Pacioretty has to come out of the lineup, and Berube says, promote it to the top six.
Starting point is 00:05:25 You got it. And we were all like, that is genuinely stupid. There were 1,000 tweets. I think the most famous one was Tom LeCision, who said, LMAO, why is Pacioretty in this lineup? I mean... And I'm not dunking on Don. He was summing up a sentiment that a lot of Leafs Nation had.
Starting point is 00:05:41 I wouldn't have done it. I wouldn't have done that. I'm not saying I necessarily would have put Robertson in. Like, if Kampf got his first game last night, I could see the rationale. It's not just that Pacioretty worked. It's not just that Pacioretty in the top six worked. It's that all four lines worked. I was stunned.
Starting point is 00:06:01 jesse would you were you on the were you on the surprise that patch ready was still in the lineup train no i don't think i was surprised that he was still in the lineup i was surprised at the move putting him up in the lineup and but like once you see the vision it all kind of made sense and you looked at the numbers he was the most successful winger on that line and what he provides that nick robertson just doesn't have the ability to is the is the checking he always leads the team in hits when he's in that lineup and they want a certain amount of physicality next to Tavares and Nylander because those guys can handle the scoring like they can do all of the finesse stuff you want on the ice and he wanted somebody specifically in there who's going
Starting point is 00:06:44 to do the dirty work for these two gentlemen and if that's exactly what he's looking for it made complete sense so I have a new comparable here um because Patrick uh Robertson I think has been laying the body more and he was early in the series when he was playing the consistency on defense to me is the biggest issue and when I just look at pure ability you know years ago there was this article written by Justin Bourne from when he was with the Toronto Marlies and he talks about a meeting where Kyle Dubas said to Andreas Johansson in front of his teammates He goes, why can't you be Victor Arvidson? And he was looking at Victor Arvidson, and he's like,
Starting point is 00:07:26 I see the raw talent in you, see the raw ability, the raw skills. Why couldn't you become that player? And there were times where it looked like Janssen would become that guy. Just the injuries, though. 20-goal season, yeah, the injuries, I mean, massive head injury, huge knee injury, those are hard to overcome. I look at Nick Robertson, and a lot of people are focusing on Pacioretty. they're two completely different players i look at nick robertson and i'm like
Starting point is 00:07:54 at what point in your career are you at least able to replace cali yarn croak who is not a big guy uh lays the body but it doesn't really do anything on account of you know he's just one of the littler guys all he does is he mines his p's and q's yeah i don't nick robertson's not as defensively responsible as cali yarn croak yeah at this point in his career At some point, you're going to have to do what you've got to do to get into the lineup, and it's not necessarily score goals. Everyone knows you can score goals. Everyone knows.
Starting point is 00:08:29 You scored 15 this year. Cali Arncroke's done that a bunch of times. Yeah, he's a little too one-dimensional. And what happened on the first William Nylander goal, the one he sniped, we'll get to it and everything. But talking about Max Pacioretty, that's all him. That is a one-handed poke check and then a one-handed slap the puck forward. He made that play entirely with a determination to play defense
Starting point is 00:08:57 and make a play on that puck. And that's something that not a lot of guys in the lineup are providing. Craig Berube knows that when Max Pacioretty's in, at these moments in the season, he's going to get that performance. Who cares that he played 37 regular season games and if he looked mediocre for some of those? He doesn't care. He hasn't scored a goal since December.
Starting point is 00:09:14 In game six of the Stanley Cup playoffs in the first round where you need to close out a series, Max Pacioretty is going to make that extra effort to make this one-handed poke check that leads directly to a goal. And that's the dynamic you're getting with him. You're not getting that out of anybody else who's scratched. One point in his final 13 games, which ended in February. Doesn't mean anything. Unbelievable performance. There's also a bit of a size difference here.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Max Pacioretty is four or five inches bigger than Nick Robertson. Nick Robertson's 5'9", listed at 178 pounds. Max Pacioretty, 6'2", almost 220 pounds. That's 40 pounds. That's huge. I've met both men. I believe it. And the comparison isn't really fair.
Starting point is 00:09:55 No. That's the guy he was scratched, obviously, for, and he came in the lineup. But you've got to compare Max Pacioretty to all the guys who are not playing. You know, it's wise. And Alex Steve's in there, or David Kampf, or Alex Nylander. or alex d later on ryan i don't even know if logan shaw's on an nhl ryan reeves isn't in there max patch already provides something that no other depth forward
Starting point is 00:10:17 is doing so he's the one who gets that bump and apparently the leafs never told him to become what he's become this year oh patches yeah so he just like looked at the lineup and said oh i guess i need to be like time to kill defensive power forward you know who told them alan probably told alan's probably hey max this is what we need yeah oh because patches is a noted out He is. I wore the hat today specifically for Alan. Oh, yeah. Because, listen, Alan had a big night last night.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Big night. Adam. The first goal. Well, you've been trying a hundred times. We still got to do pregame. Well, let me give you this. Let me give you this. I feel bad.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Adam's like, here, we're going to get right into it. And I'm like, the hell you are. The reason I was going to go to first goal first is because I was going to go to Matthews and then talk about something that Craig Berube said before the game. All right. Let me hear it. Let me hear it. And Jesse and I loved this quote on our pre-show.
Starting point is 00:11:08 It was, somebody asked Craig Berube his mood heading into game six. He said, business-like, let's go. We're ready to go. Business, let's go. Love that. No, I do. Do you think it's business and he's ready to go? You know what?
Starting point is 00:11:22 Did you get that sense? If you were to take him at his word, I think it's business-like and ready to go. There's a BoJack Horseman bit where there's three kids in a trench coat, and nobody notices that it's three kids in a trench coat it's just actually a man and his name's like uh adult men i gotta watch that show and and uh he's always talking about how he has to go and do business because he's a little kid he's like i have to do business things and everyone's like okay he's like i got that's that brubeck was like are you three kids in a trench coat trying to go to work like oh we gotta go do business i told told the story about my dad's career as a
Starting point is 00:12:00 counterfeiter no um so all i knew about my dad when i was in like kindergarten is i was like well why do you got to go to work and because i would always see him go to work because he worked nights and uh he's like well i gotta go make money so in my journal we had to write what our dad did for a living so i drew him on a conveyor belt making money i still have it somewhere so his teacher's probably like uh what does he does he work at like the national treasury or something He worked at Cadillac Fairview fixing pipes and shit. He worked at the Mint. He's minting money.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Now, April 26th. That's funny. Saturday, April 26th at 10.30 p.m., Luke Fox, friend of the show, all-around good guy. Great person. Yeah, he's actually – Fantastic human being. He said Maple Leafs fall to 1-12 in potential series clinching games during the Matthews-Marner-Nylander era. Enemy of the show.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Enemy of the show. Enemy of the state. It got worse. And it got worse. It got so much worse. 1-13. But last night, they got to 2-13. Man.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Yeah. 2-13. We're on a big comeback. Big comeback. You want some perspective on that? I couldn't think of something I want more. The Leafs have won two series since the last time Tampa won one. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 00:13:24 Right? Well, we got ahead of somebody. We did. Yeah, we're going to have the Andre Vasilevsky and Kucherov conversation later in this show, but not right now. One, there was the Minnesota Wild stat. I was just like, this is so nice to have a futility stat that is not exclusively about my team.
Starting point is 00:13:41 The bar is on the floor. They stepped over it. Let's go. Absolutely. It's like when they first teach you high jump, and they put it on the floor, you know? And you feel like an Olympian. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:13:53 So good. So I want to go to Matthews because it was so key for the Leafs to score first in this game. To get the first goal is a major thing. The Leafs are one of the better teams, as are the Sens, and over 800 winning percentage this season when they score first. And Austin Matthews has like a real seeing eye shot here. Don't call it that. I still can't figure out what to call it.
Starting point is 00:14:22 well because did you see steve's breakdown of it this morning on the lfr no okay so it's so good so so lenis allmark is and i didn't catch this at the time lenis allmark is trying to look around matthew nice has him in hell and then the second he tries to move his head that's when matthew shoots i don't know if it's coincidental or if it's just the best the best time shot of all ever and and literally you look at the net there is there is maybe four or five inches that matthew's needed to hit oh yeah like his between this guy's toe between delena solmark's toe and the post the thing that gives me the most pause is nice tries to get out of the way and i'm like well he's shooting for the pass right like there's no way in practice they're like matthews is like i'm gonna
Starting point is 00:15:10 fire a shot at like 60 strength along the ice and it's gonna work yeah you know what i mean like it was whatever it worked it looked like he was trying to slide it under the shooter tutor yes like it was it was it was top five worst goals in terms of aesthetics that austin matthews has ever scored yes so yes i i missed the first goal in house house league yeah just sliding along the ice just 40 miles per hour yeah like i can't believe that thing made it all the way in um can i ask because i missed the intermission because like during intermission i'm i'm doing stuff um what did the panel say about the brady kachuk penalty and what oh you didn't see it either no we're here but we didn't really watch it we're watching no we're here we were here right
Starting point is 00:15:58 we're in studio yeah but i don't know if you had it on or what all right well there you go no i don't feel like this much well i i'm kidding am i a little surprised it was called yes is it a penalty yeah it is like you took a healthy run at a guy way late and this is a thing that a young team has to learn and Sens fans let me beat you to it yeah it's stupid but as a Leafs fan this is how I've seen it work year after year after year and the game was given away by Tim Peel years ago you heard him say it into a mic the Leafs took a high sticking penalty earlier they were looking to give ottawa one they were uh and brady kachuk didn't mind his p's and q's he's got to sign some more sticks for them he does have to sign if if penalties are one one
Starting point is 00:16:53 when he does that if the leafs had just gotten off the power play no chance it's called so but it's interference and this is where i wanted this is why i wanted to go matthews and then pre-game again because that goal is austin matthews from mitch marner and william nylander hell yeah it breaks an 0 for 30 streak on the power play in clinching games for the leafs also it ups this stat which jesse and i went through before the game last night because jesse's like hey man don't worry and i'm like here's a whole bunch of depressing stats and it's it's made its way around but the accumulated game five six and seven playoff stats between 2019 and 2024 and this actually includes uh 2025 as well oh great so except for last night except for last night
Starting point is 00:17:42 16 games Nylander has 13 points that's pretty good 14 games Matthews has 10 that's all right that's not bad 13 games Tavares has 10 that's pretty good 16 games Marner has five points and they were all assists so immediately you get all three guys on the board on the power play on the power play that is so so i just want to talk about the importance of that the confidence the confidence that that brings you whether or not it's a great goal not all of them will be you want you want to be the team that scores first or second first i think leafs decided both but yeah no first is better it's way better the the feeling i had when shabbat scored the first goal in game five sucked really hated it and up to that point i thought it was a tight game anyone can win this
Starting point is 00:18:34 and when you're when you go down there's this element of now we gotta crawl out of this just to have a shot at winning right so to get all those boxes checked and the lead i mean there's you can't have a much better start to the game and heading right into intermission this is the thing a minute 10 to go a minute 10 to go so those those goals within a minute of the period are absolute killers uh sorry a minute uh within a minute of intermission now adam what about the beginning of the second and this is exactly how if they were talking in the dressing room this is how you would want to draw it up now this is the goal jesse referenced earlier where max patch ready does literally everything on this and sets up an opportunity for william nylander score and
Starting point is 00:19:19 jesse and i were standing here with maddie and when that goal went in you heard i heard jesse go oh oh like wow and then and then he kind of laughed it was a very william nylander goal jesse yeah no like that's that's a goal he scored a million times this season where he's able to just deceive the goaltender and pick his corner and i was very happy that he got that type of goal in the game because it's something we've a little bit been missing in these playoffs like he led the team in goals he was second in the league in overall goals wow and he hasn't had that shot yet this series and in game game one game one game one he had that one goal but like what about the ones game one game one yeah what about all of those games that they played in
Starting point is 00:20:03 Between one and six. Would have been cool in overtime. So William Nylander getting that goal, it was awesome. Yeah, and the play was all Max Pacioretty. And so that puts you in a really good spot. Now, about seven minutes later, Brady Kachuk scores. And Brady has been. Great goal.
Starting point is 00:20:19 It's a great goal. It's from Shabbat and Jeru. It's a very Brady Kachuk goal. And it kind of shows and signals. It's very clear who the captain is on this team. it's very clear who the emotional heart and soul of this guy and what i loved about what he did although i hated it at the time is he just decided to lay down on jake mccabe's stick and jake mccabe bends over to try to pick it up and brady's already gone and it's a beautiful tip
Starting point is 00:20:46 yeah it's that's a playoff goal it is a playoff goal uh brady was getting in his cross checks mccabe cowbells him which you can't oh yeah he did do that didn't he cowbelled him uh and people were like oh brady faked it uh i'm willing to bet it hurt to get stuck in the balls and but he also saw an opportunity and in that moment this is what you want out of a gamer take your lemons and make lemonade am i right he literally took his huevos and made an omelet um no this guy um uh at that point his instincts overrode the pain right and there it is the Sens are on the board and the building's pretty loud and I mean I really early in the series I might have got a couple points did not think much of his game and even when he's like we'll be back here we'll be back here I'm
Starting point is 00:21:41 like meh he he hasn't been special and on the Sens road to clawing back into the series he became a Very special player. Until William Nylander's empty net goal later in the game. We'll get to it. He was the series leader in goals. Brady Kachuk. That's crazy. He had four of them.
Starting point is 00:21:56 That's crazy. So then, Jesse, in terms of the Brady goal, how did you feel about the Leafs' play between the Brady Kachuk goal, I guess the Leafs' and Sens' play, and the end of the second period? Did you feel like the Sens were pouring it on? In the first period, up until the Brady Kachuk penalty, I thought the Sens had a great four or five-minute stretch of hockey because the Leafs were playing dump and don't chase hockey,
Starting point is 00:22:21 where it was 0-0, and they just wanted the Sens to not beat them. I really liked their game for the most part last night, but there was a pocket. There was moments where they were just kind of sitting around and they were just watching the game come to them. And then Brady Kachuk takes that penalty and things turn for the Leafs. And I thought from that moment onwards, it was the Leafs hockey, where we're going to dump and actually chase
Starting point is 00:22:43 and try and capitalize on opportunities. And then the Max Patcher-Eddie play happens, And those are the little moments that turn into a goal when you're just playing defense. And then the Kachuk goal happens, which is a great goal, like you guys are talking about. And then the Perron goal happens in the third. But your question about the Leafs' overall play, I thought they played solid. And they played like how they played all year long. You know, they don't play an exciting game of hockey.
Starting point is 00:23:04 And this was not an exciting game. It's taken the whole season to get used to that. Yeah, but Craig Roubaix has been trying to get them to play this way all season long. I think everybody's getting adjusted to it. And they've been adjusted to it for a while. And it's not exciting. It's boring. And it's just like, hey, when an opportunity comes, capitalize on it, get a goal, win a one, a two-goal game.
Starting point is 00:23:23 I was surprised by the sport logic stat that the Sens led the game in odd man rushes, like five or six to nothing. And I'm curious how many shots they got. Shots on goal they got off those odd man rushes. Because you saw these things that could be a problem and you tense up. But I think the Leafs mitigated it for the most part. Yeah, because they're comfortable allowing those things because they're really low danger. You know, they're happy if the Sens want to take some shots from the outside.
Starting point is 00:23:56 If they want to have a rush chance and then it's kind of stopped and then we're going up the other way. Like, the Leafs are very comfy playing that way. It's weird to see them play low-event hockey. It is weird. So Stoller's was pretty solid when he was called upon. Absolutely. Which, like, they allowed, like, what, three, four shots on goal in the first period?
Starting point is 00:24:11 Yeah, it was great. Except for one he should have had in the third. Yes. and that is that is the goal we're going to go to next jesse so what i said to steve on the on the uh handover last night during the live stream was that is a cursed goal from a least fan perspective and after such an unreal kill it was a great two kills in this game and they were both excellent the morgan riley penalty was painful it was not a smart because i was like morgan that's the second game in a row you've done this yeah you didn't need to and it's almost the same part of the ice
Starting point is 00:24:42 too it's defensive zone like last night it was sorry two nights ago it was Shabbat last night it was Zetterlin you don't just a push you don't need him because we remember these guys and this is not a I'm not this is not like me hating on the Sens they're brilliant at drawing penalties brilliant well they've led the league in drawn calls for three straight years they're this is their strength which like if Kadri does that or Bunting does that the league corrects it immediately if it's an entire team that does it three years running it's fine they're good at it i mean it was listen it's a penalty and it is a penalty and they'd kill it but right after the penalty ends uh it's it's a it's a matthew nice kind of yoinks it out right and i'm not mad at him i'm not mad
Starting point is 00:25:29 at him about that because david perron slaps it out of the air with his stick you take your chances with that like david by the way is known as one of the best like highest skilled practice players in the nfl frig off well who told you that yeah did that on a podcast no no i did not uh he's got crazy hand eye clearly and he starts off this play and all like if the senators even touch that puck first it's dead it's dead but then obviously he ends up around behind the net pops it off of Stoller's shoulder and I feel like the back of his head like the shoulder blade basically because Stoller's I mean most goalies probably make the calculation that he does he's coming around the other end Perron is on his backhand and he's going to try to center this he's going to try to throw
Starting point is 00:26:19 it in front so I'm going to cut off the pass right and Perron from behind the goal like significantly behind the goal line yep flips it up off of his very large back and Anthony Stoller is when he talked about this. He said, I got a little horny on the poke check, so you live and learn. That's a great graphic. And that's the life of a goaltender. You just flush it out of your mind
Starting point is 00:26:40 because the next shot's coming, and it's more important than the last one that just went in. Flush out the horny. Okay, so Jesse. Here's a spring gap of where Perron was and when he shot the puck. Oh, get the frig off.
Starting point is 00:26:56 He's in the restricted area for goaltenders. Like, that's where he shot it from, and it went in the back of the net. Good defensive coverage? No, there's nothing you can do if you're on the Leafs, except if you're the goaltender, you want to block, guard your shoulder. The only thing I would say here, yeah, well, he's hugging the post. It's just he peeled the shoulders off, so I guess he's not hugging the post. You have Tanev there.
Starting point is 00:27:23 You have McCabe there. McCabe's got the stick tied up for the most part of whoever the center is in front. ah just worry about the post man yeah just worry about no i thought like the d was playing excellent on the penalty kill they did a great job it was killed riley's out of the box and it's just it's a bad mistake and he admitted it he got horny on the poke check which i love and like that's that's it and it's another one you just shake off and you get to the next one but like that's morgan's a little gotta wear this because you shouldn't be in this situation you can't shove a guy the problem with the shove that morgan riley did is that he shoved them
Starting point is 00:27:59 through the the net and zetterlund's big and the net came off you can't not call that interference yes yes riley and zetterlund going into the net together is like 450 pounds of man like it's it's a lot yeah um so your player makes a mistake and then you're like okay let's all get together and make up for morgan's mistake and then your goaltender lets you down it's just a compounding of errors for the Leafs. And when that went in... Here, one sec. I'm probably overthinking this,
Starting point is 00:28:25 but it was the second time in this series the Leafs killed off a penalty and got scored on after the penalty because there were three defensemen on the ice. Oh.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Because it was a defenseman in the ball. No, this has nothing to do with three defensemen. Probably overthinking it. There's nothing to do with three defensemen on the ice. But I had something to note.
Starting point is 00:28:40 No, it's not. I had something to note. No, it literally... If it happens in the Florida series... No, but this... Leafs are 0 for 3 when they have three defensemen on the ice to get scored on.
Starting point is 00:28:48 That's like a plus-minus thing is like oh he's a minus like it's not something to note don't write it down i'm noting it i'm noting it right now this had nothing to do with three defensemen on the eye you're right there note it you're right there if this was eight children in trench coats they still he was still would have scored from behind the goal three children in one trench coat i don't i don't know about this my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike yeah so don't note it um i'm noting it so so that goal goes in and i admitted on the on the show last night my my reaction but i'll i'll save that for a minute jesse where were you when that goal goes in
Starting point is 00:29:24 what's your reaction to it do you sit there stoically are you angry do you bang your fist what is a jesse blake reaction to that tying goal i don't remember the exact reaction like you're upset obviously you want the least to hold on to that that lead and you it like the games usually play out for the least that you know it's they don't allow a third period goal like that like i thought they were going to hold on to that lead it would have been uh two one finisher yeah out two one finish and they get the empty net or whatever three one i thought that's how it was gonna play out so it was pretty surprising to see perron get that one see i've i've i've made a huge error because i thought jesse might emote the way i do but jesse is did you smash a tv or i was at
Starting point is 00:30:05 sdpn and i got the cops called in our office i mean adam got the cops call in our office as you do i screamed and i said why the f is it always us over and over and over because that is like from the set from the sense perspective that's a great goal from the least perspective and the history and everything else it's not just this game it's the it's the 10 years of martyr matthews kneelander it's the 60 years of not winning the cup it's been 25 since they've been to like the conference finals right i thank you right make your point quarter century so i'm feeling like what like this cannot we cannot see it but it wasn't like that was an ot winner i yes but you But no, in series pass, that happens.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Their confidence is shot. Oh, yeah. But not this time. Nope. And so I'm happy to tell you, I was embarrassing. I was embarrassing. I'm glad my wife wasn't in the room because she would never have made out with me again. I'm putting a straight up toddler tantrum.
Starting point is 00:31:06 Straight up. Did you see? We should probably post the chart of the viewership skyrocketing from the moment Riley took the penalty. to the minutes after the Perron goal. Yeah, it went up by like 1,000 people. 1,000? Well, it was high. It went up 1,000 in the first minute of the penalty kick.
Starting point is 00:31:26 It went up probably 4,000 or 5,000. And so I was embarrassing. The Leafs, though, did something that I saw the Oilers do to the Canucks last year, and I always reference this goal. Canucks tie it up, I think it was Brock Besser. There's three minutes to go in the game. Three minutes to go in the game, and I'm like, oh my god canucks are at home they tied up the game the barns going nuts and leon dry saddle
Starting point is 00:31:51 20 seconds after the face-off goes yep i'm gonna score just the eater of dream and it was like to me i was like that is a veteran move that's veteran playoffs you're not gonna scare me it's just overwhelming yes and that will kill you that will kill you yeah and what i saw last night was strangely enough the Max Domi line which featured Max Pacioretty yes go in and have a really good offensive zone sort of they they had it all night but they really had good Domi Domi had a bad game all night except for that play I don't think Domi was good no but what was interesting I thought McMahon had a really good one and when the Leafs had the lead in the third period you'll notice Berube took Pacioretty off and he put McMahon up which is something he did much earlier in the
Starting point is 00:32:40 season when Pacioretty was playing up there and I was like great good move but then you send out the fourth line and it is three random men it is Holmberg centering Domi and Pacioretty like I don't know what that line is I don't know what their purpose is they go out for a shift and I'm like that's not bad actually they're doing okay like decent things are happening when they're out there and i cannot believe that literally a mishmash line of misfit toys is what sealed the series for the leaf because they're they're hard working like that someone i forgot to shout out in the lfr because it was just a hurricane even though it was nearly half an hour long uh pontus holmberg on the screen yes so it's a two-on-one starts with a dart up the ice from jake mccabe
Starting point is 00:33:30 This is one of the best passes of his frigging career. Up to Max Domi. It's a two-on-one. Domi made the wise decision to shoot, which, if you've been listening to this podcast all year, is not something I thought I would say. But the pass might get picked off. It's Pontus Holmberg.
Starting point is 00:33:48 I don't know if he's ever scored a one-time goal in the NHL. Good move. Allmark stops it. It stays alive, and Jesse, you have the play up? Yeah, you want me to do the edge? I want to see it just because Domi should not have won this battle. No, that's the thing. And it starts a two-on-one, right?
Starting point is 00:34:09 This is what's haunting me today as a Sens fan. One of Clevin or Bathurston should have come up with this puck. That's why I think Domi deserves so much credit. I think he had a poor game up until this moment where he literally wins the series for the Toronto Maple Leafs. His defensive stick has gotten so much better throughout the season. that's that's why you pay him the money is because he's he's a dog in the corner like he works so hard he tries so hard in these moments and him being able to fish that puck out is incredible
Starting point is 00:34:42 and finding patch already right after he comes away with the puck from behind the net that leads directly to the goal that's all him and it's on patches too for for a great shot but just the hard work is what got them the goal so follow 29 follow 29 so 29 helps yeah and he just leaves Domi immediately goes to the front of the net front of the net Hallmark doesn't see that thing so there's two goals out of three that he's in the net for he does not see right there's the Matthews one and then there's this it's a good way to it's a good way to neutralize an eight million dollar goalie like he like Berube just threw that line together as he described and And, like, he just threw three guys who were going to be on the ice
Starting point is 00:35:22 trying their best. Homer's a dog. And that's all they did. Like, he's not flashy. He's not, you know, I don't think he's ever going to be an offensive dynamo. Has he eclipsed 20 points in a season yet? Like, but he works hard and he does a lot of those little things that are going to keep him in the league.
Starting point is 00:35:40 And this is a dynamic the Leafs haven't had in the past. Myrtle, in his article, I was telling you before because I was reading that, he had some of the last year's lineup in there. and it was rough it was reeves doer gregor like that's that's who you're relying on in the bottom half of the forward group and now you got guys like domey who was who was in there but like patches and holmberg just at another level than those guys who were at the bottom and like lorenz and lawton and like those are the guys you're relying on now for the extra stuff around the core of this team and it's so much better than it is in years past and and look at the defensive
Starting point is 00:36:15 upgrades too jesse to add to your point last year you had you were starting tj brody who was on the craziest decline and the leafs refused to take him out of the lineup uh and on the right on the right side joel edmondson timothy lilligren and and bush illy labushkin tanov carlo oel is that's a one year all-time upgrade on the right side all time we were asking after the game somebody asked you know three stars of this series does Bradtree Living get a star maybe honestly maybe like that's a crazy defensive upgrade there are so many leafs you could you could give it to and it's difficult because like I don't know if you weight the later games heavier than the than the first game because like first game was cookie night so like if you're just
Starting point is 00:37:06 looking at the raw numbers you're like well Marner should be in there while you're shaking your head I watched the six games. A lot of guys had a horrible game five, and he was one of them, and that's okay. Now it's okay. First star from the Ford group goes to John Tavares. I agree with you. Nobody had a better series in terms of the Fords than JT. You have Nyes in there?
Starting point is 00:37:31 Nyes is good. I probably have Willie ahead of Nyes just for his game six performance. And that's when it matters, right? Adam was saying Stoller's number one, and I just don't think he stole anything. nah yeah good he was i think his save percentage in the last three games is 865 or something oh not great yeah well playoff save percentage it's a little messy yeah but like i yeah and like you look back at all the goals and you're not really blaming him for a lot so yeah i don't know if they have save percentages are like 820 versus 960 like it's always weird first star is brad
Starting point is 00:38:03 gillard um yeah and then of course at the end of the game we're waiting for omar to get pulled When's he going to get pulled? When's he going to get pulled? A lot of time. A lot of time. And, you know, those last three minutes went by like a math exam. They were long. And I look at what could have been the most memeable moment.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Oh! Which is William Nylander thinks he has a end-to-end goal, right? Like he shoots it from his end, goes all the way down, sticks up in the air. We all think it's going in. I was screaming at the screen. and it went just a couple inches to the left hit off the side of the net and it's icing they had a few posts uh lotten had one yeah domi had sort of one and a half when it was like
Starting point is 00:38:50 slightly off the side of the net oh they could have had more and that willie goal i was like oh no this is gonna go in the pantheon that matt fratton built if like all the way back in 2013 if they don't win that game like if that gets tied up that is a that is a i might not be here today like i might not be in this room i might you'd have to come get me if the sun scored with the empty net you'd have to come get me like like jordan had to go to vegas to get rodman but i'm depressed and not partying with carmen electro like like that's that's you would have had to come get me you would have had to go go to ajax and throw me in the back like steve we got to do a two-hour show let's go you would have had to hog tie me the worst version of that ever was it
Starting point is 00:39:33 the olympics or women's worlds where they hit the post and then they ended up the americans is the americans hit the post and then ended up scoring with the empty net and winning the game another really bad one i think this was the women's world championships finland wins it in overtime they review it they disallow it game continues states win oh and um nashville vancouver last year oh yeah empty net and nashville doesn't get it vancouver comes back they they tie the game then they win an ot and they win that series was closer than yeah that's a good poll i totally forgot about that uh so yeah that would be devastating by the way i'm going to correct my stat from earlier neil andrew did not tie brady kachuk he had his third goal with the
Starting point is 00:40:19 eventual empty netter and i just want to say that if you get three goals he had three goals in the series he had one coming in he had two last night brady ended with four and yeah so brady brady led the lead in goals in the series but jesse i want to is it possible to bring up nhl edge on this one the uh or like for the mp netter because i want people people have been giving a particular player a lot of crap and every good team has a guy that people don't like and i we call it the mason raymond syndrome which is you know the vancouver canucks in 2011 were as close to perfect as a hockey teams you can get they really were they were spectacular but Canucks fans said we don't like Mason Ray some we don't like him yeah why because everybody's got it fans just do that
Starting point is 00:41:05 because he's the perceived weakest link on an otherwise juggernaut and by the way he was still pretty good he was still pretty good so uh Scott Lawton was traded uh to Toronto for Nikita grabenkin in a first round pick and he's out there with hold on though hold on oh i'm sorry adam i'm i got a little horny there they start anthony stolars they started with your poke check yeah keep that poker away you calm yourself jesse blake the the first game he plays is against the colorado avalanche and it's just a bonkers game and he doesn't play great that was his first game and it takes him eight or nine games to even find a spot they're trying him on the wing they're trying to third line center oh okay now he's on the fourth line do we really give up a first round
Starting point is 00:41:48 pick and a prospect for a fourth liner man that's a bad trade boy boy they messed that up wasn't the fourth line we'll talk about that in a second but scott lotten last night and i think for a good chunk of this series last night and and for a couple of nights has been an unbelievable penalty one of their best penalty killers has created opportunities multiple posts right yes and And last night is the reason William Nylander got a second shot at the goal. So let's bring it up. Sorry, it took a little too long getting into it. So what happens here, guys, can we describe?
Starting point is 00:42:22 Because it's Batherson. Yeah, let's go back. You're going to have to go back. So watch Sanderson clap this thing into 24 and look how little 24 moves. So dead center blue line and Lawton is just in a heap trying to drag himself to the bench after whack oh it hits him the force i know we're just looking at dots but you could tell by the force on the screen he's he's not even on the bench when the goal is scored um and they mob him when he gets to the bench too and if i'm not mistaken i don't know if they're doing game
Starting point is 00:42:59 belt anymore in the playoffs but i saw a little clip he had the game puck and was putting it into the uh wooden board that they have he almost gets uh doesn't get the plus almost doesn't get the not only does he get the plus jesse he got an assist rightfully so yeah they give him the assist there for blocking it with his body yeah laying it on the line no what he laid it on the line if you want to never heard that song before if you uh funny uh Tanev also sticks out just for the plus uh you see him go into the bench and then he makes a left turn he's gonna score if you want to there's a really great um there's a really great picture of Lawton and Jesse I guess I can send it over to you on the Maple Leafs Instagram
Starting point is 00:43:53 him yeah i think benoit was getting ready to come out for tan of batana said no cookie night i want the plus and so you have to scroll significantly into it it's probably like there's like this is like a crazy slideshow but you could see the entire like wall benny riley carlo and it looks like oel come over and go yeah because they i mean they're defensemen they get it i mean just what a warrior i don't know what part of the body he blocked it with nothing fun uh by the looks of it but it was it was heroic and he got zero credit for it after the game that's not true well they didn't they were talking about him much much and i get it well i think he needs his flowers more oh i was streaming the thing and when i went and looked at um the stat line
Starting point is 00:44:45 after and I'm looking at all the highlights and everything I'm like Lawton with the assist what what did he do oh my god he got drilled with that thing yeah Jake Sanderson who's an extremely good player just putting his whole heart and soul into a bomb aimed directly at your life basically and he laid it on the line and blocked him oh my god that picture oh my god print it paint it on my garage how great is it on my ceiling I'm gonna get a tattoo of that across I'm going to give Leafs fans more credit than you are. I think everybody noticed that Lawton. I didn't see it enough on the broadcast, is my point.
Starting point is 00:45:20 Well, the broadcast is different. The focus is the series is over. No, Scott Lawton. Focus on Scott Lawton, our Lord and Savior, please. Scoot Luton. Okay. That's a great picture. Unreal.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Beautiful picture. And look, Benny just seems like such a great guy. Like, when he scored this series in that overtime game, I don't know if the Leafs have ever been happier for a guy. They have not. he's just he just seems like he's he's a vibes guy as well as a good defenseman which is cool and he's just he's just willing to do it all right like there there have been listen there have been plenty of Leafs I'm trying to figure out how to make this sound like as much of a
Starting point is 00:45:58 compliment as possible there have been plenty of Leafs over the years who have had the talent of Simone Benoit but have not had the work ethic of Simone Benoit name them uh oh my god alphabetically alphabetically uh all of them uh okay what is the difference between uh Simone Benoit and Martin Marincin Martin Marincin probably had more talent you think so probably than Benny not much more not much more I saw a lot I saw way too many Martin Marincin games for any any no fan should have been subjected to the effort the effort of Benny every game there's no preparation for an elimination game every game is an elimination game i might get eliminated from the league you never see you you will see benny make a mistake you will not see benny take a shift
Starting point is 00:46:48 off ever i love how we're complimenting this man who was not on the ice i it just seems like a vibes now scott lawton has seemed to have really endeared himself to the leafs dressing room as well not only is he a responsible defensive player but he also seems to be a guy that they just love already 100 and that's why jesse have you got a sense of that because you're closer to this than than we are uh you know it's it's tough when you get traded mid-season it's tough when you get traded late season to fit in uh he seems to have jumped right into it yeah because a lot of the guys they've played with him in their junior careers like a lot of them the guys who are like the similar age like domi like he knows lotten from back when they were like teenagers and that
Starting point is 00:47:29 sort of thing so they've all they all kind of love the love the dude itself and like he's such a a toronto guy like he he knows about the market and everything so like he fit in i think perfectly and everybody's been rooting for him um i think i think he's been a perfect addition to the team and and in terms of the locker room yeah i don't think there's anything going on negatively with the guys no they he's he's a star apparently he's bringing he's he's oh he's being the dj too yeah so that's pretty cool and like just that mad scientist line of lawton yarn croak and lorenzo can i ask a question about that line sure first off you think that's the third line why do you think that's the third line because it is uh yes did you agree with that is that the third i don't
Starting point is 00:48:09 disagree at all yeah no no the real i mean the the shutting down is a team effort the tavaris line depending on um how it's deployed can do some work there but that's not your ideal matchup Matthews, Nyes, Marner like those are three penalty killers they're you know that's your top line you can send them out in a shutdown role but you want them scoring ideally um the Lawton-Lorenz yarn croak line takes so much of that load off of those first two lines and then there's obviously the domey line which you try to protect it's such a miserable time for the sends in this series like we saw so many classic just sends can't get out of their zone is anything happening are the leafs generating a chance out of it no not necessarily they might have they had they had one or two
Starting point is 00:49:07 um like is loretta you're bleeding time you're just time and effort and pouring through the hourglass and they're just energy vampires they're they do a great job of draining time off the clock and energy from their opponent why are leaf fans this is my follow-up so hard on cali yarn croak because i was really impressed with him in this series i think it's what is that i don't think it's a big pocket of leaf fans i think most fans respect what that line does i don't think the leafs have had a line like this in this era no i think yarn croak's biggest crime is he's not nick robertson and people like him i like nick robertson too i would like it better if he you know made it so that he was the clear-cut option ahead of cali yarn croak and he's not like we were talking about
Starting point is 00:49:55 it earlier this episode like we're talking about robertson patch ready robertson patch ready they bring two completely different skill sets and body types to the lineup robertson should be able to supplant yarn croak but yarn croak minds his p's and q's he's a that's the third time this episode i've said it i don't know why it's my crutch today um and something really important about him that is key to that line right-handed shot can take face-offs if lawton gets kicked out you can throw lorenz in there but if there's a face-off on the right you don't have to use lawton you can use yarn croak on his strong side which is something i think that's really appealing for a line that you're probably going to give a lot of d-zone starts to
Starting point is 00:50:37 man that's good for some stats to back things up give it to yarn croak lawton lorenz line was second in the team and expected goals for throughout the entire series oh my god 1.34 expected goals for the only line that beat them was nize matthews marner who were 2.89 that's according to natural wow yeah oh that's cool yeah that's in the series or in this game series wow holy i was like i must have misheard him that's crazy as a series as a whole wow six games yeah i i just want to say i i loved that line every time that line came out it was sort of like what i remember earlier in the year when when uh chris tana played his first few games and steve was like oh chris tana's warm blanket right that's how that line feels when they're
Starting point is 00:51:23 out there i don't worry a little bit like um i mean this is an old reference so some young fans this isn't going to resonate but just just making shane corson velcro on alexi yashin oh just stapling him to you just go follow him around do it whatever you got to do he's popping painkillers on the bench freaking warrior yeah yeah you got suspended for kicking eric karens he shouldn't have done that why why not what's the problem what's you're not supposed to do that i've read um but they've needed a line like this for a long time and i i don't think a lot of leaf fans predicted or would have predicted that the leafs would finally put together a line like this and it wouldn't feature david kampf it not only would it not feature david kampf he's not even in
Starting point is 00:52:10 the lineup very surprising it's nice to have him in the in your back pocket but he's not in the lineup right now it speaks to the work that bradshaw living did he yeah he pushed out a guy who we all thought was going to be really important to this lineup because he added so many additions that are more important than David Combs. Not anything on his play. Like, he's a good player, but in a worse lineup, he's in there. But this team, it got too good without him. This also doesn't happen often in the playoffs,
Starting point is 00:52:41 especially a series that goes longer than four or five games. No one was taken out of the lineup due to injury. At least that we know of. Like, who knows? Maybe Robbie's hurt. but no one was taken out of the lineup due to injury, which is somewhat of a miracle in itself if you look around the league. Yeah, very healthy Leafs teams. They've been relatively healthy all season long.
Starting point is 00:53:04 Outside of the Austin Matthews injury and McCabe going out for a little bit and you got a little bit of OEL, but those are week here, week there. There's been no major injuries for the Leafs. And not ones that they couldn't cover. Matthews was so early. yeah and everything kind of wrapped up by the time you needed math they also barely played that month right remember when he was out he missed like four games yeah so weird um but like jt marner willie all healthy yep healthy seasons and like stallers missed some time but then he came back
Starting point is 00:53:35 and he's good and like they're they got to take advantage of this run here because you're not going to stay healthy throughout the entire playoffs but they are right now and it's really working maybe you are not in game one against florida no act but gotta take advantage of that too it's worth noting you really don't really help for the lightning yeah yeah no those games you know we're not the lightning and the panthers are not the sins we don't know different series we don't know when the leafs are we don't know when the leafs and panthers are going to kick off we know it's sometime probably early next week i'd be stunned if it was this weekend on account of saturday's tomorrow yes and like i mean the the the road team to start
Starting point is 00:54:17 each series is not even in the city they're supposed to be in yep uh so carolina is not in washington florida i imagine is not in toronto yet so what's the point exactly now so i just want to i just want to take this show and just enjoy this win and not fret about oh we're not going to talk about we can their next series i think we should probably oh what i was thinking is we would do a preview later on when we knew when they were going to play because I feel like Leaf fans deserve to just enjoy this
Starting point is 00:54:45 moment and then feel anxious in a day or two. Is that fair? Oh yeah. Just enjoy it for today. The whiniest, diaper-filliest copers last night were the ones like, well, good luck with Florida. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:55:01 It's the Stanley Cup playoffs. When you make it to the second round, there's only eight teams left and you're going to be stunned to find they're all good it's crazy good luck against florida thank you they're a very good team after a long winter that car needs a clean steve yes that mazda is looking a little dirty well hey and the sun is out hey well it's okay because i got silver wax that's right proudly canadian since 1999 silver wax not only takes absolute care of your cars your rvs your atvs your boats whatever it is you have also they make it easy because uh their absolute care promise not only

Starting point is 00:56:17 for shame honestly what's wrong what i would also say is i love that they're they're they're like leather cleaners and stuff like that they don't leave that sort of oily thing on it afterwards like it's always cool that it looks shiny but i'm like that's getting on my pants isn't it uh silver wax doesn't do that so check it out silver wax takes absolute care of your car find silver wax products at your local canadian tire or go to silverwax.ca and use the promo code sdpn10 it's sdpn10 for 10 off your next order at silverwax.ca sometimes life throws your curve balls and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my

Starting point is 00:58:30 Terms apply. Now, Florida did, Jesse, steamroll, steamroll the Tampa Bay Lightning. And I think there are obviously reasons why that happened. We talked a little bit about this in the pre-show. Nikita Kucherov, every time he's won an Art Ross trophy, so that's three years, he's never scored a goal in that ensuing playoff. Stunning stat. Which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:58:53 So that's this year, last year, and 2019 against Columbus. Did not score in any of those series. Also worth mentioning, he hasn't scored a goal in the playoffs since the Leafs beat the Lightning in 22-23. Not a goal. Enough time has passed that I'm willing to say something's wrong there. That's weird, right? Fundamentally.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Someone asked me today, they're like, I heard a rumor Cooper's getting fired. And I went, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I don't think that's happening. but if you're the lightning i'm not saying you're the la kings because the kings i think need to have some real soul searching this offseason something fundamental about your team has to change and that might sound strange to say on account of they just lost stephen stamp coast this past offseason but there's a reason the lightning let him walk and that's because they
Starting point is 00:59:47 felt like they could and go look at the season he had in nashville go look at the season that Nashville had there's something not working there well and I looked at it too and I thought okay did they do the Chicago Blackhawks thing where they tried to get the band back together bringing back Ryan McDonough Yanni Gord and losing guys like Sergeyev who yeah you know did they because look at look at Vasilevsky's save percentage and again five games right so it sucks but over the last three years Andre Vasilevsky has not posted an over 900 save percentage in the playoffs he's played 16 games uh the six games against the Leafs uh in 22-23 he had an 875 the five games against the Panthers he had an 897 uh last year and then the five games this year an 872 is it a Vasilevsky
Starting point is 01:00:36 conversation or is it the team in front of him that's no longer as deep as it used to be well what do you get from this quote this is from eduardo uh a asena uh who is uh tampa bay lightning beat reporter for the tb times he's quoting andre vasilevsky when you go out there you start the series at home with six goals against what's our home playoff record last 10 games i think we've won just one or two it's like wow i'm checking if there's any kids in the store okay good it's like what the fuck is this i just feel bad for the fans they deserve much better than this now that sounds like a goalie who's very frustrated with the team around him by statistics a lot of team a lot of you know people who analyze those things and on like a very deep level said
Starting point is 01:01:26 tampa was an elite team this year they looked it there's a reason i picked them it's also because i thought the panthers were hurt but jesse why why did they get steamrolled like this i think some of it's got to do with the team they're playing like i feel like if tampa's up against the i don't want it upper up against a lesser opponent not to call out any of the other teams in this playoffs that they have a better chance at winning this is just the leafs conversation then oh we keep running into bruins keep running into the lightning though you know there's good teams in the playoffs yeah but like their first round matchup isn't the same as i think other team's first round matchup yeah like yeah i think that's fair to say second in the division home
Starting point is 01:02:04 ice advantage yeah but it's the cup champs yeah and if you want to if you want to reframe the conversation a different way you say oh then you should have won the division then you get a better opponent and that sort of stuff and that's that's a whole other the other point i think specifically like this is the matchup they got and that's what i'm talking about the florida panthers are just great at playing smothering defense paul maurice talked about how they don't they they specifically emphasize cutting down gaps like their whole thing is about gap control and they have the guys to play that exact system that they want to play and the nikita kucherov numbers about him not scoring who are the last 10 playoff games he played against uh panthers florida panthers and
Starting point is 01:02:43 the florida panthers so all of the matchups have been against this one team oh yeah you're at five and five that have excelled at shutting down superstars what they did to mcdavid in the cup final two where up until the game three when yeah finally edmonton found a way to unleash themselves and come back in that series but like game four game five sorry yeah but up until that point like they did the same thing that they did to nikita kucherov so i think it's you gotta credit the panthers is it worth mentioning though that nikita kucherov against the leafs defense in 2023 which was i mean we saw last year i don't know 2023 look like uh you only had one goal then too Is that worth talking about?
Starting point is 01:03:25 Is this a trend? And that was in six games, right? So now we're up to one goal in 16 games. And I know Ilya Samsonov was actually killer in that Lightning series. And the Lightning did outplay the Leafs in that series. I think the stat is he doesn't have a goal for 15 straight playoff games. So he scored against the Leafs and it would have been game one. And he hasn't scored since.
Starting point is 01:03:43 That Lightning team, I don't think, was particularly on it that playoff. They probably played a lot of hockey. So is the conclusion you're drawing to Kuda Kucherov isn't good? I would say he's not clutch. I feel like we have enough evidence that Nikita Kucherov is a very good player and is a playoff performer based on what he did during the cup runs and that during the regular season, it's a lot easier with the amount of power plays they get. And power plays are limited during the playoffs and space is limited during the playoffs.
Starting point is 01:04:10 And right now, his game isn't translating to this playoff style of hockey. His team's not as good. The support system. The team around him isn't as good as he had. And the teams he's up against, a pretty good Leafs team that beat Tampa, I think, in a lot of those games. They were the better team. And then two times against Florida, who is so far superior than, I think, any other team in the National Hockey League right now. The Atlantic Division.
Starting point is 01:04:34 It's tough, and their team overall isn't good enough. It's just not. It's not on the individual. It's the whole team. Look at the—you look at the lineup, the way that they structured it for the last game. The Lightning used to have two first lines, right? Yes, it was unfair. and when yanni gourd was at his best with the lightning who was he on a line with uh it was
Starting point is 01:04:56 blake coleman and bar clay goodrow and guess what line that was the third right unfair so you have crazy crazy genzel point kucherov but then i look at it and i go i see two third lines and a fourth line after that yeah geeky paul gourd gonzalez uh gunkalvis excuse me uh sorelli radish and then Obviously, Gergensen's Glenn Denning, that is a fourth line. But their fourth line used to be another nightmare to contend with. It was friggin' Belmar, Maroon, and who else was out there? It was not fun. Oh, Perry.
Starting point is 01:05:32 Yeah. Ew. So they have significantly thinned out, as has happened. Yeah, and Adam, thank you for reading the forward group, because I think my overall point is Kucherov shouldn't be to blame here for entirely his deficiencies here in the last, what, 15 playoff games. It's not about blame. The entire 12 guys he's out there with isn't as good
Starting point is 01:05:53 as what he used to be out there with. In 2021, did he not win the Kahn-Smythe? Or in one of the two years, he won the Kahn-Smythe. Yeah, he has a Kahn-Smythe trophy. So, yeah, it's not that he's a bad playoff performer. It's that there was a year where he was their most important performer, and in subsequent years, he's been neutralized. that is a fundamental change to your team yes and i don't think nikita kucherov has gotten
Starting point is 01:06:17 so much worse as a player i think everything about the tampa bay lightning has gotten worse as a team right so it's harder for him to get away from matchups harder for him to get away from the other team's best that i'm on board with for sure i think the florida panthers are facing a lesser opponent and know how to shut them down damn they were distracted by the shiny toys kucherov point yeah and soul yeah they dismantled them breeze focus has got to be death scoring like second like i think they gotta get a bit younger he got borschtrand at the deadline like borschtrand's injured couldn't make it couldn't make an impact on this series and like but like it would have that changed anything like is did julian bruce do enough here is yeah is if you're
Starting point is 01:07:00 if you're winning i think so against the panthers is oliver bjorkstrand the straw that breaks the can't right i don't know well it's bjorkstrand and gourd yeah but we're talking about bjorkstrand not playing versus right it was right i don't think so oh no no it's not what sinks the ship no when do we have the mini referendum on getting rid of stamkos like at in the end are we all happy with that i feel it's like it made both parties worse you know that's so true yeah like i i think who benefited from that so so okay let's have a look here the one thing that that you know that The Lightning were able to get J.J. Moser for Sergachev, and J.J. Moser looks like to be a good young defenseman on the way up.
Starting point is 01:07:36 Did I say that when it happened? The one thing I'll say— Do you want him on your first pairing? No. No. And so when you go— But that's not a Moser problem. That's a Breezewa.
Starting point is 01:07:46 Exactly. Exactly. And that's, I think, the bigger issue here. Right. But when you—and Sergachev spent a lot of the year— I don't think I've ever mentioned Breezewa and problem in the same sentence. Like, this is a new conversation. You know, Sergachev spent a lot of the year on the IR.
Starting point is 01:07:58 He had a really unfortunate injury early on. but guys make an eight and a half you bring in mcdonough who's making eight and a half uh sergachev he signed his new oh mcdonough six seven five so you're telling me you so you were willing to pay six seven five for mcdonough you weren't willing to go an extra million seven five for sergachev this is the kind of talent bleeding that i'm talking about and that's why i phrased it that was maybe not a great idea is this them trying to get the band back together after the best before date. The Blackhawks thing you threw out there
Starting point is 01:08:30 is a pretty good example. Like, you know what? Let's get rid of this Artemi Panarin guy. What's he ever going to be? Bring me Brandon Saad and bring me Cups. You know, that is a little bit of what I see here. And it's not because Ryan McDonough is a bad player or that he's not useful to them.
Starting point is 01:08:48 It's because for your value per million with Sergeyev is 10x what you would get from McDonough. No disrespect. So one thing we're burying in the story is Sergachev was coming off a very serious injury, right? And he only played the one game in the playoffs. And, you know, you can sign him to that extension, but who knows what you're getting?
Starting point is 01:09:09 Well, here's what you're getting. In 77 games with Utah, 15 goals, which is a career high, 38 assists, which is the second best of his career, and 53 points, which is the second best of his career. And he's also competitive and a pain in the ass. A piece of crap. Hates losing. 212 pounds
Starting point is 01:09:28 6 foot 3 He's a gift of a player That I think might have been a mistake We've seen the New York Rangers fall We've seen the Boston Bruins fall Are we going to see The Tampa Bay Lightning reset I feel like we have
Starting point is 01:09:46 They're a smart enough team and a cutthroat enough team I think we saw that last year That we can be pretty confident They're not just going to sit on their hands and do nothing this offseason they're not ready to like they're certainly not going to rebuild vasilevsky's only 30 right like they have they have opportunity here but they look how good he was this but what if they like they did a few years ago before their cup run what if it's a reset so you take a year you take two years and you still make the playoffs but you're collecting assets and you're growing
Starting point is 01:10:17 players and you're building this team back i think they have a fascinating draft yeah well i thought you should you should know this morning first off john cooper said he can't see himself coaching anywhere else despite the rumors oh good and well i don't know where the rumors are coming from is literally i got a phone call from a friend who said they read it online yeah because that's not a thing so the rumors are coming from ryan smith and john cooper summer in the same location they are good friends and ryan smith reportedly wanted to lure john owner of you the owner of the utah hockey club it wasn't like these weren't unfounded rumors like this this was a thing and okay people were speculating that if the tampa bay lighting went out in the first round that he might make a
Starting point is 01:10:58 big push to possibly try and lure him from tampa to coach the utah hockey club that's where it came cooper and sergachev reunited would be very funny but it sounds like that's not gonna happen i well what would you pay said he did say that those conversations need to come from tampa ownership and Julian Briseois and and and so the Tampa reporters this morning are saying well he's not going anywhere that to me is not I'm not going anywhere that's I can't see myself play that Dubas said the same thing and they fired him three days later I can't see myself GMing anywhere else and I might take a time yeah like immediately I'm sorry yeah he had that job in the bag Dubas does not sit at that press conference and say I don't know if this is for me and my family without
Starting point is 01:11:42 knowing that that penguins offer was in his no I'm not trying to I'm not trying to pick on the guy I think he's done probably a better job in Pittsburgh than he's gotten credit for he doesn't get enough shit for that he doesn't get enough shit for that performance
Starting point is 01:11:58 maybe getting fired was him getting enough shit yeah it sounds like he got all the shit yeah and then he got promoted and then gave himself the job put the crown on his head I am king. There simply couldn't be another guy to do this.
Starting point is 01:12:14 As I said, he won the lottery with that one, and he deserved it. Go get a GM who can take the fall for you. But his biggest mistake was saying, nope, I'll do it. It's like when Dwight named himself King of the Hay. Yeah, you got the ability. Like, look, Shani has had three general managers in his tenure. The team has gotten past the first round twice. Lou, Kyle, Brad, in case anybody forgets.
Starting point is 01:12:42 And the only one who didn't win a round, Lou. Shani hasn't had to wear that in the way that those GMs did. What Kyle didn't seem to understand was, hey, I'm the president now. I'm like above the GM. I don't need to own this, and I get to make all the decisions. But I get to let my GM go talk to the press. He didn't get that. The Jim Rutherford setup where he's running everything and makes all the decisions,
Starting point is 01:13:07 but Patrick Alvin is the general manager. Just do that. Just let Patrick take the fall. And also to Jim, stop talking. Yeah, but it's like Alvin in front of a mic. Oh, no, that's terrible. Go to Jim, and then Jim talks, and you're like, oh, that's way worse. Who's that comedian that's like a TikTok sound freak?
Starting point is 01:13:26 Jane Gillis. Oh, that's way worse. Julian Breezewald also said this morning that it is unlikely that their 31st overall, 22 uh first round pick isaac howard who plays at michigan state will sign with them so he is he's 21 like at all at all so he becomes a free agent so he will be a free agent later this summer and he had 52 points in 37 games in the big 10 leaf holy crap those are really good university numbers he sounds like a leaf 5 11 190 pounds now he doesn't sound like ah no 5 11 he's not he's not No, he's not 6'3".
Starting point is 01:13:58 Yeah, never mind. Thanks for coming out, bum. He sounds like a stupid Montreal Canadian. I think he sounds like a pen. Oh my God, please, God, no. Please, God, no. Please, no. Oh my God.

Starting point is 01:15:10 Now, I want to move to the Edmonton series because Jesse, Jesse was like, Oh, no. Jesse was, Jesse read the future. What did I say? So, in game three, there's less than five minutes to go in the game. In fact, I think there was four. Evander Kane scores to tie the game up. It's four all.
Starting point is 01:15:31 And the refs look at it and they go, wait a second. Did he kick that puck in? No, it didn't. No, he didn't. He kicked it to his own blade and got it underneath Darcy Kemper and it's a goal. Darcy Kemper, by the way, Vezna finalist. Okay? Man.
Starting point is 01:15:44 Crazy. Man. So then, and this is where I have to give Jesse credit. And he was like legitimately good. Jim Hiller's like, hey, wait a second. That's probably goaltender interference. Now, if I am Jim Hiller, I don't know what goaltender interference actually is. Because if we're being honest with ourselves, does anybody know what goaltender interference actually is?
Starting point is 01:16:03 However, he challenges with four minutes to go. And they go, yeah, no, that's a goal. And here's your penalty. And 10 seconds into that penalty, Evan Bouchard rips a goal home and it's fought in 10 seconds of gameplay it goes from 4-3 to 5-4 in and this was game three of a series they're winning two nothing it is the biggest 10 second change of fortune I think I've seen I'm trying to remember the last time the only other 10 second change of fortune I've seen I mean maybe it wasn't even 10 seconds was there was a hit that
Starting point is 01:16:45 if you were paying attention to the Caps and Habs series, Wilson absolutely rocked Carrier, and it immediately led to a goal and turned around a game that the Caps were losing. But this was bigger. And Jesse said on the pre-show earlier this week, he said, that's going to lose them the series.
Starting point is 01:17:02 And I thought at the time I was like, they hadn't won a game yet. I was like, they had not won a game. But they had when Jesse said it. They'd won a game. They won that game, so I was like, that's going to cost them the series. And I thought, okay, that might be. But then the fourth game happens, and Edmonton wins.
Starting point is 01:17:20 And then I brought it up again with Jesse on the pre-stream. Edmonton without Ekholm. Yes. I bring it up with Jesse on the pre-stream, and Jesse's like, yeah, it's weighing on them. Last night, I said to him, I said, how much is that weighing on this series? And Jesse, you basically said it was everything. Yeah, no, that was the series. Like, I think you can point to, like, that is literally where things began and end for the LA Kings.
Starting point is 01:17:44 And, like, I think I'm on the opinion that Jim Hiller shouldn't be the coach of the LA Kings. Do you think you fire him? Not just specifically for that instance. But if Kings fans, like, you probably know this. When you watch the Kings play hockey, they get a lead and then they just kind of sit back and they play prevent defense. We are just going to hold on and not do anything. and hope that we just keep this lead and we're going to stop playing hockey.
Starting point is 01:18:12 They literally stop playing hockey when they get leads. And that's a coaching thing. He makes that challenge. He costs them the series. But the biggest mistake he's made is the way he coaches hockey games. And that is against a team that is all offense, all we can beat you however we want
Starting point is 01:18:30 if we can just score goals. He sits back and lets the Edmonton Oilers come to them. And he never figured out how to stop that. So here's what I would say. So it's two-pronged. I'm not going to make this about the Leafs, but they're the team we follow the closest, and their video staff is very highly praised.
Starting point is 01:18:48 Oh, we didn't even talk about the frigging lineup card thing from the Leafs. Maybe we'll get to that. The video staff for the Leafs, they get into Mark Savard's ear, and Savvy talks into his weird little sleeve microphone, and he relays the message to Craig Berube. There was a play this series where the Leafs considered challenging for offside
Starting point is 01:19:14 and you see Berube going to Mark Savard and going, all right, what are we doing? What are we doing here? And it's ultimately Berube's decision, but he's like, what are we doing? What are we doing? And Savvy ultimately goes, no. And like you can see a mouth, no. Now, I don't know if it was a no, there's not enough.
Starting point is 01:19:33 No, it was onside. We don't know. But it's a very collaborative effort. But Berube makes that challenge, gets it wrong, and it cost the Leafs a goal. He wears that. He ultimately wears that. That's on the head coach, the guy who's making the decision.
Starting point is 01:19:54 Is it fair? It's the way it is. I can tell you that much. So Jim Hiller's eating it. What I would say, not in his defense, but what i would say just because it's true this is the fourth straight year the oilers have eliminated the kings it's not a hat trick anymore by the way it's called a turkey it's called a jesus oh yeah like in bowling it's yeah yeah yeah different goalies i think every
Starting point is 01:20:24 year like kemper they had talbot i think yeah they had corpus allo yeah corpus and they might have had someone else I just I can't remember there's four there's four of them and one of them was during like the ends of COVID who can remember well who can remember you've had multiple coaches you had a different starting goalie I think every year your decor looks entirely different um you know Kopitar and Deneau have gotten older Byfield has gotten older but in a good way um like what do you do what do you like oh they got to make changes it feels like they have and they cannot beat the Edmonton Oilers the Oilers are one of the strangest they're no they're the strangest team I've ever watched well they're the strangest team of my lifetime
Starting point is 01:21:22 they are deeply flawed but so overwhelming could easily win a cup with it well and so let me let me just run you through because i obviously i did the stream but like just for anybody that missed this game because i think we need to talk about that if you miss this game the first six minutes featured four goals it's insane byfield scores at 119 henrik for the oilers scores at 304 brant clark scores at 337 so that's 25 seconds later guys and then a minute and a half later ryan nugent hopkins on the power play like and then by the end of the period darnell nurse had also ripped one home with the sickest picture i think i've ever seen yeah dude very very so good and then the period two starts and there's nothing and i remember i said on the stream i'm like
Starting point is 01:22:11 listen we were so spoiled in period one i feel like we're getting robbed in period two uh you get another oh sorry it was zach hyman at the first nurse scored in the second you got to talk into your mic sorry uh zach hyman scored at the end of the first it was nurse that scored in this second he's new and then took off his headphones because his ears got hot my ears my ears got sweaty uh it did uh 90 seconds later it's a rush chance trent frederick scores hey there with half a leg there he is and then jordan spence scores a minute and a half after that so you got brant clark jordan spence you got your young guys doing their thing on the back end yeah you're never gonna win that game and it's you're never gonna win that kind of game against
Starting point is 01:22:50 the edmonton earlers and the running gun the kings are like proven they're not that type of team no they can score they can't though not not in these games where they got to come back and win they're good at like getting a lead and sitting on it and when the other team can't uh penetrate their wall but like hiller continually in that series shortened his bench he he relied on the three kind of top lines he only ran kind of three lines throughout that thing kind of two at some points like he in the Edmonton Oilers on the other side when they got going from game three on they were running all four lines like evenly McDavid and Drysaddle did not have great series points wise I don't know if you have their totals uh they're they're not they're not up there in terms of
Starting point is 01:23:30 points that the Edmonton Oilers scored this uh this playoff series in the first round and just some numbers to back up uh the the kings in this type of hockey when the kings trailed after the first period david had 11 yeah and so i had 10 11 11 and 10 how many goals uh two and three two and three okay it was the goals the goals number i was trying to remember not the points numbers the goals numbers they were all around these my bad um but the the kings this season during the regular season they only had two wins when trailing after the first period oh all season all season long all season long they had a 143 points percentage when trailing after the first period which is 28th best in the league so there couldn't have been many games they didn't but they
Starting point is 01:24:19 didn't trail a lot while after the first period some they were tied a lot they were ahead a lot yeah but in the games where they trailed after the first period they weren't good they had they don't they can't play this game and their head coach had them playing run and gun oiler style hockey against the oil or this because they got them into that game the oilers did they mastered it after game three okay but imagine though imagine yeah before this series starts we're doing our preview and i'm like hey guys here's a hot take uh la kings have a vesna caliber goaltender when we now know that because he's he's one of the finalists okay the and they're gonna limit to they're gonna limit mcdavid and dry sidle combined to five total goals this series
Starting point is 01:24:59 no chance edmonton wins zero zero percent chance edmonton wins that game that series yeah and yet here they are bouchard they could have five goals bouchard with four goals nugent hopkins with three connor brown with three zach hyman with yep what is that that's depth story evander kane had to and i think we underrate how much him coming back as soon as he came back they started winning huge difference and then on top of that i was watching av stars last night i'm like landis coggs on the top pp unit like two guys who did not play this regular season cory perry two goals matthias yanmark two goals trent frederick adam henry darnell nurse victor arvidsson they all had man that's a lot of goals that's a hurricane dude like what do you do what do you do
Starting point is 01:25:39 it's nuts you should leave uh stewart skinner on white ave yes like let him stay there and party He's not a part of the team anymore. Calvin Pickard's been great. He really was. There's your starting goaltender for the rest of the playoffs. I encourage everyone to just check out Calvin Pickard's HockeyDB page. Bring it up. What do you want to say?
Starting point is 01:26:03 No, no. Just because what a frigging journey. Like, this guy, he shouldn't be starting playoff games in the second round in 2025. Like, it's a miracle. so first of all second round pick 49th overall 2010 2010 was drafted 15 years ago how old is this guy 33 uh just turned 33 he had one of the worst seasons i've ever seen well he had a 904 save percentage but this is when save percentages were much higher he showed some promise as a young goalie for the avs six seven and three record seven six and one record 932 save percentage 922
Starting point is 01:26:47 that year where the avalanche were just awful everyone got injured he magically becomes their starting goalie due to injuries he's 15 31 and 2 just going out there and getting shelled every night kept that save percentage high though he goes to the leafs the next year plays one game isn't great but he plays 33 games in the minors champion and he wins a championship oh i bet he was like playoff mvp nope backup to garrett sparks as they win the almost at Stanley Cup Calder Cup uh goes to Philly the next year plays 11 games is hot ass he put up a 4-2-2 record lord knows how he did it he had an 8-6-3 save percentage and he just spent the next few years as a journeyman the COVID year was so friggin weird he he's he plays six games in Vienna
Starting point is 01:27:55 that's crazy and he plays for Vienna of the Austrian League and Detroit and Grand Rapids in the same season 15 total games still spends time in the
Starting point is 01:28:12 minors spends time in the minors with the Oilers and he's good in the minors but like starting playoff games in the second round in his 30s no the the bakersfield won the 22 23 season where he played 38 games for them yes like that's very recent memory yes two years ago he played 38 games for bakersfield yeah he played he's starting for
Starting point is 01:28:38 the he played 81 ahl games between the 21 22 season and 22 23 yeah by the way one i i know stuart skinner played more games than him last year in the playoffs but he also had a better save percentage than lewis stewart skinner last year in the playoffs and he was playing better than skinner he was in the the canucks series last year better than skinner and then they went back to skinner anyway yeah and i was like which ended up being the right call at the time i was like this is crazy why are they doing this i don't think they can do that this time here we are in the the year of mcdavid 2025 yeah calvin pickard is not lost he is four and oh in these playoffs that's nuts the oilers got four wins against the kings and he was in the net for one two three
Starting point is 01:29:26 four of them hockey is silly this is why we watch it's so friggin fun jim hiller shouldn't have a job you do you i mean he might he's coaching the team the wrong way back to that and and he cost them the series with that challenge and i think overall the coaching strategy from the kings hasn't been great la overall though like like what do you do like because it's still a good team there are some aging players but you had kopitar in another great year dowdy when he came back was really great they have the right mix in theory of veterans and young guys brant clark jordan spence uh quinton byfield like they uh you know they've had good i mean i don't know if if they have any great players coming up now but like it's and it's also los angeles it's not like
Starting point is 01:30:09 you'd have hard times selling people on coming who led the kings in scoring and how many points did they have i have no idea probably on say oh you want me to look up no i'm asking no no i have it i have oh i have uh byfield it was not byfield oh no he was very good adrian kempe who had a great series he had a great series great season tied for the team leading goals with 35 with Kevin Fiala and he led the team in points with 73 they are a really strong solid all-around team strong throughout the lineup they in if you're going to go up against a team with a super-dee-doo superstar two of them every year I don't think you can get by just being very solid throughout you you need to even a team that bleeds goals like the Oilers do you like I'm trying to think
Starting point is 01:31:09 back at the last time like it felt like a team neutralized the Oilers guys and I think back to Like, I don't know, Makar. Like Makar Taves. The Kings just... McCabe? I mean McCabe, sorry. McDavid on national television last year doused Miro Haskinen in gasoline and set him on fire
Starting point is 01:31:32 and wasn't even arrested for it. And you're going at him with like a geriatric Drew Doughty and these kids, and it's not enough. like you're the kings are such a good team and that crazy joel edmondson contract honestly yeah i honestly think if they didn't run into the oilers first round every year they probably i don't know get a couple conference finals out of it that's for me right now sitting here with the where the kings are at it sounds like cope for to defend what they're doing because they haven't won a playoff series since 2014 and like some of that is you're coming off the
Starting point is 01:32:09 championship you always have to pay the tax bill yeah like eventually when you are that good through that era everything comes due all of your superstars are gone blah blah blah but that's more than 10 years ago colorado probably kills them we're sitting in 2025 la and chicago have not recovered from the early 2010s fully no and they have zero series wins to show for all this it's like it's time for something you like you need to be winning you need to make do you need to make major changes to your veteran guys do you need to talk to Kopitar and Dowdy and go guys I know you're lifelong kings but would you consider because we need to get assets and we need to right they got a I know that's a crazy thing to say but do you have that question they got a Vezna
Starting point is 01:32:52 nominee and cap space for Pierre-Luc Dubois like oh they're that's a really frustrating team because I look at them they're one of those teams where I go yeah generally speaking I think you're making all the right choices it's not enough it's not even good to beat Edmonton it's not even you lose the same opponent four straight years that is uh like come on hey uh you can't like the part of the reason we've been yelling and screaming for the Leafs to blow it up for so long is this keeps happening often against the Bruins but it's not them every four straight years oh I'd be sick to my stomach yeah like it's probably rob blake who's got to pay for for the bill i think so i know it might be maybe it's just a promotion and pick him upstairs yeah bring somebody in his gm
Starting point is 01:33:42 but somebody's got to pay for this he hasn't listen i don't think he's done a bad eiserman's been bad yeah eiserman's been bad rob blake's just not good enough not good enough you need an edge i think i think i'm on to something with the top end talent there because like they have a great collection of very good players i think they're hoping byfield turns into that like but he didn't even hit 60 points like you need a hundred point guy mitch marner if hey maybe if that's what you're going head to head with every freaking year you you just don't there's no combination of five or six men you could throw out there to combat that and even when you somewhat neutralize it that means you're taking the rest of the Oilers
Starting point is 01:34:29 lineup for granted, and they're going to light you up like they did in the series. Like Connor Brown's going to show up. Zach Hyman's going to show up. Evander Kane's going to show up. Connor Brown was great last year. He was spectacular. And that was a guy who was dead to rights last year. He's healthy. Yeah. He wasn't even that good during the regular season. He had a very mediocre season.
Starting point is 01:34:45 But, man, and he brings intensity. When they scored, he was screaming like he was so excited. Now, you started this thing, and you're like, oh, Jesse said they cost the series and that thing. I picked the Kings to win the series so did i five six but i don't think you picked jim hiller to pick that but i just want to acknowledge that i was very wrong on this series and same with like i had
Starting point is 01:35:06 tampa in five like picks have been bad this year yeah but that's the joy of the play it makes me feel better that your picks also suck no we we are we're all here sucking together dude group suck fest yeah okay no great episode title now it'll be great for seo group suck fest it's may which means it's time for a spring cleanup the yard's looking a little rough it might be time to get the lawnmower 5.0 ultra out oh do we have like gardening products now no we have we have man products for man upstairs and man downstairs oh this is for um this is oh it's for the balls it's a pubic hair i got it yeah now manscaped uh lawnmower 5.0 ultra features a dual skin safe
Starting point is 01:35:55 blade which is accompanied by a trimmer and interchangeable foil blade for enhanced performance in sensitive areas we don't want the nicking and the pulling and the you're going to want to be careful your register kind of raises when I say that
Starting point is 01:36:11 so here's what we want you to do we want you to go and get your 15% off your entire order with Manscaped right now go to manscaped.com use the code DANGLE get free shipping, get 15% off your entire order right now with Manscaped. let me ask you something okay if i had told you last night before the abs dallas game
Starting point is 01:37:03 there are going to be five goals scored in the second period and four of them are going to dallas and also miko ranton is going to get four points okay and rupe hints four points what would you say about the potential outcome of that game i don't know if you can send your friends therapy coupons but i would have sent one to drew's house because that is tough but uh ranton had three assists in 10 minutes yes there's something like that yeah like on the i don't know i don't know he hints michael granlin and then rupe hints again and then he scored in that period so he has three assists and then he scored i know uh i know blackwood is not entirely popular in colorado right now but heading into these playoffs like by the way we should
Starting point is 01:37:56 mention colorado won that's what i do want to say the the series that made me angriest to see it was this one because i'm like uh i know this is going to be a banger and also this should not be a first round series like if dallas loses game seven you lost um i think seven game series back back years and they were against friggin vegas and friggin colorado yep that's unbelievable um i don't remember where oh heading into this i i like those are like two of my top teams in the in the west but the stars are so preposterously deep yes like oh their scoring is unbelievable but we knew that the question was their defense well without mural high school the question was their defense but if rantanen isn't performing which he wasn't then i think it completely
Starting point is 01:38:52 neutralizes the rest of the team because you have no robertson too well it's what and you have no robertson and it's what i was talking about with the oilers like uh as long as you keep if your depth performs well and your stars are performing well but they're neutralized it at least opens up your depth but if the stars aren't performing well you're boned so you lose you lose robertson there's your top scorer you lose your new highest paid player um in ranting and he's still there he's just performing like crap you're probably not winning the series he might you could maybe argue they were lucky to be up 3-2 in the series um ranting it arrives and i know you have makar i know you have devon taves what is how do you shut down the stars well they didn't right they
Starting point is 01:39:48 outscored them right and this is uh what a thrill like what how fortunate the hockey world is that This is going seven. It was 4-3 after the second period. Sorry to everybody else. And then what did the Colorado Avalanche do in the third? They scored four goals unanswered. And one of them I want to bring up. The last two.
Starting point is 01:40:09 Is it the dumbest goal I've ever seen? The last two are empty netters. Let's not sell it like it was four goals on a goalie. But McKinnon has had five goals that he scored and one that Colin Blackwell scored. Man. And this, I just need to break this down because it goes off of two star players.
Starting point is 01:40:25 His second game winner of the series. And it goes over Ottinger. Who is the tallest goalie in the league? Or tied for it. He's like 6'6", 6'7". Handsome, beautiful teeth. Jealous. Makes me mad.
Starting point is 01:40:41 Do you have it there, Jess? Yeah, I was just pulling it up. He's pulling it up. Because I want you to see this. This goal, in case you missed it, because you're in the Eastern time zone, you've got work in the morning. This is a goal worth looking at.
Starting point is 01:40:54 Oh, I watched it like an idiot. was a dagger goal because it goes off of your own player it goes off of three of your own players like i okay go to the net and good things happen so mckinnon is making he's going to the net right he's driving towards the net but he's being driven wrong wide which is good defensive he's got one hand on a stick so then what happens it's flung into the slot uh-huh and it's just is that labushkin by the way on him i believe so man the star should have done better than that it's thrown into the slot it hits something before hitting something before hitting something and it hits the back of the net and it goes off of oscar back and and i believe oscar's front
Starting point is 01:41:42 and then i believe it hits colin blackwell right after that in the in like the chest yeah yeah And, like, what would you have done? All five Dallas Stars have surrounded the net like a force field, and the puck goes off the min-in. And it goes off of Blackwell on the other side. McKinnon's coming down the left side. The puck bounces off Bach and then to Blackwell, and that's on the other side of the net at that point.
Starting point is 01:42:10 That's not nice. There's not a single ave in front of the net. Nope. That's, I mean, that's the hockey gods going, people want to see a seven. yeah people want to see game seven sorry yeah no that's a curse goal curse goal sends win the game with that last night again you would have to go to ajax and drag me here guys i have to ask because again like you said the uh the blackwell is not the most popular guy in colorado a lot of people
Starting point is 01:42:35 argue he he cost them blackwood blackwood sorry i don't know blackwell blackwell not to be confused with blackwood not to be confused with wedwood we've seen crazy goals there was 11 last night in the stars uh abs game what does game seven look like is it a 2-1 finish or is it more of the high scoring high adrenaline because i feel like sometimes going into game seven usually especially in the first period every team is just kind of feeling each other out and they're well we're not going to do too much we don't want to open up too much what are you guys expecting from game seven i'm expecting the last time or what we saw the last time these two teams went to a seven game series i think they've met since this series but um during the covid bubble
Starting point is 01:43:19 colorado's dead to rights in this series do you remember who their starter was who dragged them back into it kember michael friggin hutchinson oh wow really michael hutchinson and it goes to game seven now hutchinson did not have a good game seven it was a run and gun slug fest and with the hat trick goal to win the series joel fucking kiviranta as they said on finish radio uh that's what i expect i don't think this will be a low scoring game okay jess do you agree you think high scoring steve yes i'll say low scoring no i think the abs win in a low scoring You think the Avs win? I think they win 3-1.
Starting point is 01:44:08 No, it's 4-1. I'll add two empty nets. It's like a 2-1 game through most of it. 4-1, final score. I don't think you're holding Dallas to one. It's going to be hard. I want Colorado to win because this is the only chance my bracket has of any sort of survival. Some stats from the NHL.
Starting point is 01:44:28 The Dallas Stars are competing in a Game 7 for the fourth consecutive year. A franchise first. and the longest streak since the Ducks went five straight years competing in Game 7s from 13 to 17, 20, 13 to 17. Those Ducks teams were so fun. The Avalanche is set to compete in its 17th Game 7 all-time. Wow. Their record?
Starting point is 01:44:50 6-10. Not bad. Not great. Not that great. Colorado. I'd say bad. Colorado has not won a Game 7 since 2002. What?
Starting point is 01:45:01 What? Their streak of six consecutive Game 7 defeats is tied with the Senators and the Toronto Maplers, both of which are also active. Thank you for that. Well, I would imagine they would be active. No, well, it could have been like 19-22. Oh, yeah. So the Leafs are still on that active streak.
Starting point is 01:45:19 So is Nathan McKinnon and Cale McCarran not clutch? You have to ask the question. You don't find that interesting? I think that's really interesting. This team is on. And also, Pete DeBoer is 8-0 in Game 7. I find that a little skewed because Pete DeBoer is also the king of the bridesmaid. He was the coach of the Sharks, who went to all those conference finals, never broke it through.
Starting point is 01:45:43 Vegas Golden Knights, during their early years where they go to the finals, doesn't break through. And now the Dallas Stars, who are the king of conference finals and don't make it through. Gallant was the coach. DeBoer doesn't have a cup. And the New Jersey Devils go to the Stanley Cup final, losing the finals. Adam and I are furious I'm pretty sure I have this ready Lost in the finals with the Sharks
Starting point is 01:46:07 Lost in round one with the Sharks Lost in round two with the Sharks Lost in round three with the Sharks Then fired Tell me what I got wrong He hasn't won a championship He takes over for Gerard Gallant mid-season And literally it was the same season he got fired by the Sharks
Starting point is 01:46:26 Loses in round three yeah loses in round three conference final king then they missed the playoffs he gets booted cassidy in goes to dallas lost what do they do lost in round three i don't what did i get wrong did he even win in junior uh that's funny won the championship twice with the rangers in 0203 and 0708 oh okay kitchen arrangers that's right the dude loves coming in second nazem cadre and nick spalling on one of those teams so like wow you're good at winning game sevens but you got to get over the hump eventually yeah you know so um i don't know i think this is going to be a fantastic game like me screaming into the mirror he coached toronto great david clarkson and mike richards for
Starting point is 01:47:09 the kitchener rangers in 2002 2003 just thought i'd let you know wow um anyways that streak that the abs have um of not winning game sevens i think is pretty interesting but i guess it speaks to them closing out series lower earlier than reaching game sevens but they haven't needed it yeah they haven't really you remember game seven colorado edmonton from 2022 uh no you don't because the ave swept him i was gonna say i didn't really also pete deborah was the coach of the devils when we went they went to the finals with kovalchuk and clarkson uh-huh wow he has i'll give him credit he at least goes deep it gives you the opportunity you know just throwing that out there all right so that'll be fun hey everyone jesse here if you were like me you struggled in
Starting point is 01:47:52 the first round of the NHL playoffs, picking your bracket. I had Tampa going to the finals, and now Tampa is eliminated. And if you're like me, you want a second chance at picking your bracket. And that's why STPN and Spark is giving you just that, a second chance at your bracket. If you hit the link in the description, whether you're listening on audio or watching the video right now, you can click that link and you will head to your second chance bracket challenge. this is separate from the first bracket you made those points will still count but we are giving you a second chance at making your bracket from the second round onward so hit that link in the description and get a second chance at glory uh hey guys jack adams award nominees have been
Starting point is 01:48:36 announced i don't know if you've seen it jesse i have okay so i want you to guess who do you think it is i don't think i have um well it was just announced i got the email spencer carberry Yes Maybe Marty St. Louis Yes Can he go three for three Who won the President's Trophy Winnipeg
Starting point is 01:48:59 So I'm going to go Scott Arneal And you had three for three Well done Well done Love that I think all three really well deserving I think the story in there is Marty St. Louis
Starting point is 01:49:17 because there were people openly asking in the fall, should this guy keep his job? Well. And good for him. They were on pace to be in the basement again after they probably should have taken a step forward. Yep. Well.
Starting point is 01:49:30 Then they took a step forward. And just like the Sens, they get in the playoffs. Did they win? No. But I think a lot of valuable experience there. I like that Arneal and Monty have been taking shots at each other in the series, too. That is going to be a fun game tonight. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:49:47 There's another one that I think needs to go seven. I hope so. It needs to go seven. Who's the biggest snub? That's a good question. Huh. Hmm. Craig Berube.
Starting point is 01:49:58 No, I'm kidding. Well, I mean. I mean, he did win the division. The Leafs took a, they did take a jump up with Craig Berube. But they were expected to be good. Did you say Travis Green? I mean, look at the sense. You can make the argument.
Starting point is 01:50:09 Oh, yeah, yeah. You can make the argument. And you know who also took a huge leap? No one's going to want to hear this. Sheldon Keefe with the Devils. Nah. They took a big leap. No, not really.
Starting point is 01:50:20 They went from nowhere near the playoffs to they made it. Not like, I wouldn't say it was like Montreal or Ottawa's leap. No. The Travis Green one is interesting because they finished ahead of the Canadians. Yep. Technically, his team did better than St. Louis. To be fair, everybody expected Ottawa to be a bit better than the Canadiens. The argument is like, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:50:42 We thought you were going to suck. That's why Berube can't win it. The Leafs are a good team, and he just made them good. Yeah, and Carberry has dragged the Washington Capitals out of the ashes and got them into the playoffs this year or last year and then dominated this year. Another guy I would say could be on the snubbed award list is a guy that's operated with a crazy cap crunch
Starting point is 01:51:06 and still managed to get the team into the playoffs two out of three years. I know Dean Everson got one of those. But John Hines. I thought John Hines did a great job with Minnesota and managed. You could even argue Dean Everson and Columbus. Yeah, 100%. I just think John Hines managed his best three players being out. Erickson Eck, Kaprizov, and Spurgeon were out for significant chunks of this year.
Starting point is 01:51:25 Really difficult. And they gave Vegas a good run for their money. And watch out for the Wilds because they're going to have a lot of money to spend. We'll get a Kaprizov extension, I'm sure, July 1st. But, like, I do think that that was actually pretty impressive. I know they've lost eight consecutive first rounds. And I'm sure they're not thrilled about that. But they also had one hand behind their back.
Starting point is 01:51:45 You've been spewing a lot of Hayden propaganda on this show. And, like, Vegas was able to handle them, I think, pretty handedly by the end of it. I have liked the Wild for years. Do you remember two years ago for their playoff hype video? They used a soundbite of me on the show saying I really like the system. Dude, I do think there's something there. Yeah, because Hayden's in your ear on all the streams. Yeah, maybe that's what it is.
Starting point is 01:52:05 Hayden just loves puck. Like, he just loves hockey so much. He'll just, like, I don't know about you guys, but, like, he'll just text me at random. Like, here's a neat stat I found. Like, just because he's just scouring the internet. Why did you have to say it like that? He just loves puck.
Starting point is 01:52:21 Dude knows puck, loves puck. But, no, the reason I'm saying that is he's, like, so... Jesse, he's a hockey bro. Yeah. Obviously. I've played two games of Beer League. We lost both. I'm a hockey bro now.
Starting point is 01:52:32 But now, mild-mannered Hayden, when his team is in the playoffs, is like, listen up, you fucking donkey. I heard what you said in the series preview, and I hope you die. And I'm like, okay, Hayden, man. Sorry about your shirt. Yeah, but who ended up being right? Us. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:52:52 I think there was some right to go around, Hayden. Please don't hurt me. I think it was cool to see Jack Eichel and Mark Stone realize that the playoffs had started. And they show up and they're really good in game six there to close it out. And that's kind of the difference. And Aiden Hill had a good performance, too. When we when we were doing our lightning segment, this wasn't out yet, but the lightning did
Starting point is 01:53:12 announce their injuries. Are you guys interested? Oh, yeah, sure. So Bjorkstrand suffered from something called compartment syndrome. I don't know what that is, but he required a house call at 2 a.m. and went to ER for surgery. Well, I don't know what compartment surgery syndrome. I don't even know what part of the body that is.
Starting point is 01:53:27 OK, so let's have a look. compartment syndrome uh happens when there's too much pressure around your muscles the pressure restricts and reduces the flow of blood fresh oxygen and nutrients to your muscles and nerves compartment syndrome is extremely painful uh a compartment is a medical term for a group of muscles nerves or blood vessels so it's probably part of his body where this happened jesus that i've never heard of that wow um anthony sorelli had a grade 2 mcl sprain wow luke luke glendening had a right shoulder ac joint separation so that's going to probably require a lot of surgery or rehab how do you play with this yeah yanni gourd the mcls the the lower body stuff is the stuff i
Starting point is 01:54:08 don't understand the the shoulders the oh okay i could see how you could still play through the pain be limited how do you skate with no knees uh yanni gourd broken finger wow brandon hagel concussion we knew yeah um i'm gonna save victor headman for last because i didn't even know he was hurt nikita kucherov left hand injury that's all they said that's his bottom hand uh nick paul left wrist tear that sounds horrible eric cernak left knee contusion so that's a bad bruise like a deep not fun bruise brutal okay any guesses on victor headman give me a guess can you give me a upper or lower lower it's lower body broken foot broken foot hey well done wow you're on a broken foot guys if it's a defenseman they didn't announce he was hurt and it's lower body he probably blocked
Starting point is 01:55:02 a shot and broke his foot yeah the foot you can stabilize because you put it in the boot and the boot acts like a cast yep i played on my my spray my ankle that's what my doctor told me he's like you can probably skate a little earlier because the boot you put on will act like a cast but like how do you get in front of a shot you're in the nhl and you have a broken foot and you're just out there that's insane like like you're cernak like anyone who's had a really bad bruise like i hate i hate when i hurt my toes because i have a house full of tiny children and a dog and it's usually iggy this oh my god when he steps on an already injured toe you just want to scream like just all the nerve endings down you stub your toe a lot how do you
Starting point is 01:55:46 not not that often must step on toys around your i step on toys all the time i trip over toys all the time it's just two young children right yeah but like one time this is gruesome i i had some sort of charger and i stepped on it with the prongs up oh and then just so how do you get in front of an nhl shot can you tell the story about Is it a coffee table that was moved, or was it Isla's table or something, and it's in the living room, you didn't realize it was moved, and then you walked right into it? No, it's her. This is one of the symptoms of ADHD, I've learned, is your spatial awareness is just trash. She has a high chair.
Starting point is 01:56:32 The high chair. The legs stick out diagonally, pointing to the top, like a pyramid. I know it's there. it's been there for a year i know it's there i trip over it every single time i walk past but i just want to say every single time beyond the spatial awareness thing which i can relate to because i stub my toe all the time it's like i'm walking into the bathroom and somehow half of my foot is headed towards the threshold of the door the other half is headed to the wood part that sticks out of the ground yeah um with those kids high chairs because they don't want them to tip
Starting point is 01:57:03 it's so weird because you're used to a table where the the legs go straight down yep but with those high chairs they're kind of like a almost like a pyramid yeah because kids are insane and they try to get out and they try to make it so that it won't topple over so every morning steve walks into it every morning every afternoon and every night that's what i was yeah no and not not to mention the uh when jesse and i had a race and i ran into the bench dude my shin still has a mark and it still hurts when i touch it have you got it checked out recently no no i probably just suck it up yeah suck it up um suck it up but like i'm not getting in front of an nhl shot no uh rod crazy rod brandenmore stat i'm just gonna i've got some
Starting point is 01:57:43 news and notes sort of things that i want to end okay so rod brandenmore is the first nhl coach in history to win at least one round in each of his first seven seasons behind the bench wow that's cool uh just making the playoff seven years in a row is obviously a huge accomplishment is uh pat burns won at least one round in each of his first six seasons split over montreal and toronto wow Other playoff round streaks, and this is according to Frank Cervalli, Montreal 10 years, Dick Irvin and Toe Blake. Montreal 10 years, 84 to 93. Get in front of the microphone.
Starting point is 01:58:14 Lemaire, Perron, Burns, Demers. Philadelphia did it from 73 to 81 with Fred Shiro and Pat Quinn. And the New York Islanders under Al Arbor did it for seven straight years. So that's pretty amazing for Rod Brindamore. And it's kind of nuts that every time he goes for a contract negotiation, tom dundon's like i don't think so uh how about you do it for free um there are a ton of head coaching vacancies and there are rumors i still i mean the lightning brass did say john cooper will be back but he's got another year left and that's the rumored end of that contract so we'll see
Starting point is 01:58:48 the ducks bruins blackhawks rangers flyers pens and kraken currently have openings not anymore one of them uh the new york rangers you included in that well and and that was what i'm coming to Is that a contract officially signed? Yeah, they announced that this morning. That one's not on your list. Mike Sullivan. Mike Sullivan is officially the coach of the New York Rangers, and it's apparently John Cooper, to this point,
Starting point is 01:59:11 has been the highest paid coach in the NHL. Mike Sullivan will now eclipse him. We're talking in the neighborhood of probably over $6 million a season. So I was going to ask earlier, let's say John Cooper was a free agent today. He's not. So Mike Sullivan's the coach of Team USA. Yep.
Starting point is 01:59:28 very sought after coach and he's making like what six you said probably six six and a half what would you pay to get john cooper to coach your team don't don't think about the leafs like think about utah right what do you want he's an unrestricted free agent you're looking to make a splash you're looking to create an identity around your team who's who's the best year in and year out coach in the league john has to be him yes if you have a rich owner if you're vegas and you don't like bruce cassidy anymore which is is not the case why wouldn't you throw 10 mil at john cooper 10 cap free dollars well i think that's what they're realizing is that hey what what edge can i get and i can and i can spend without consequence coaches if you're a team
Starting point is 02:00:18 that like imagine that the change in fortune going from greg cronin to john cooper if you're anaheim oh my god that would be worth the money greg cronin to anyone yeah that's that's the impression i keep getting from anaheim i do want to say that this is their the rangers fifth coach in the last 12 years they have 38 head coaches in their history five of them have happened in the last 12 that means basically on average you're turfed every two and a half years in new york yeah like a president trophy at a conference you said someone's gonna have a great season next year oh yeah he's gonna have a great two years and then we'll evaluate but chris chris jury's been chasing mike sullivan for a while now uh i don't i don't know if a lot of people know this
Starting point is 02:01:00 but he coached the rangers under john tortorella sullivan was an assistant coach with the rangers from 2009 to 2013 and the final two years there the 12 and the 13 seasons chris jury was the captain oh well they have they've been together on the same team wow uh and then eventually mike sullivan leaves for pittsburgh and then the last time mike sullivan's contract was up for renewal in pittsburgh chris jury had fired i think it was what might have been galant at that time and he tried to see if sullivan was going to become available but then sullivan signed a 5.5 million dollar contract that he signed with pittsburgh that was supposed to be running through like two years from now so he's eclipsed that number at least yes we know it's somewhere
Starting point is 02:01:47 in the six something area because he had to eclipse 5.5 but uh chris jury and mike sullivan like mike sullivan has been chris jury's white whale that's what he's been chasing and it's interesting jess because i you know mike sullivan being a real boston guy right part of the reason that fenway sports didn't want to let him go is because he's such a boston guy i would have thought the bruins would have tried to be all over that guy and maybe they did cam neely again we haven't gone through some of these disastrous press conferences the way that i wish we could have because of how much has been going on in the playoffs. But Cam Neely stepped up and was like,
Starting point is 02:02:19 who wouldn't want one of the greatest jobs and one of the greatest franchises in hockey? And I'm like, Cam, you looked at your roster lately? You like don't have players, eh? Yeah. Or ones that are going to produce for you. And also like Marshawn Bergeron, those guys are all gone. It's all gone.
Starting point is 02:02:34 You got three real good pieces, but you, oh boy. Unless they have the most active summer we've seen in recent memory, That's going to be a tough slog in Boston. I want to tell you about the Carolina Hurricanes do things differently, guys. Did you hear that? Cheaply? Have you heard that? Cheaply?
Starting point is 02:02:52 Weirdly? And cheaply. They announced Alexander Nikishin's contract. Wait two weeks, then register it. Weird. They make Rod Brendamore wait for his contract a couple years ago so his whole staff can get a little bit of a pay bump. Weird and also dumb. They also brought to the fore in the NHL, and other teams have taken advantage of it, the salary deferral, right?
Starting point is 02:03:12 Uh-huh. Last year with Seth Jarvis' contract, the Leafs were like, that seems like a good idea. We'll do that with Jake McCabe. And there's like no cap penalty for it. It's kind of crazy no one's been doing it. A bunch of teams have caught on. I didn't know you could do this with a no-move clause. But Taylor Hall signed an extension.
Starting point is 02:03:29 Three years. $3.167 million because they had to get specific. So it's $3.5 in the first year, $3.425 in the next year, and $2.575 in year three. However, it comes with a no-move clause, but it becomes a 10-team no-trade clause if Hall doesn't score 35 points in his second season. So in his second season, he's got to get plus 35 points. Otherwise, the next year, he has to submit a 10-team no-trade list, and then he can be traded to 22 other NHL teams, potentially more. Eric Tolsky, that's brilliant because it's, all right, I'm going to give you some term. I'm going to give you this money.
Starting point is 02:04:09 I'm going to give you like 10 million bucks, which is great, but I've inserted this. What if you're bad, Klaus? What if that's what it is? What if we're stuck with you, Klaus? What if we're stuck? What do you think that was Darren Ferris's idea? No. You think that was his agent?
Starting point is 02:04:23 No, that's the team going, okay, we get to trade you if you suck. And they relented and they said, yep. Okay. I'm thinking someone doesn't want to be on the market again because they're tired of and uh being in buffalo and chicago will do that to a fella yeah yeah no i'll stay in carolina thanks he's also like flipped his season since coming over from chicago like he's been he's been really useful for the hurricanes he also plays solid defense right like he can he's changed his game as he's gotten older he's been in the league a long time um he's we've talked about this a bunch
Starting point is 02:04:59 of times recently he's one of those guys who has to reinvent himself yep right you were a star you're not a star anymore is how are you going to continue to contribute is taylor hall a hall of famer no no well he's in the hall of pretty good career 739 career points no no 909 games no heart trophy yep he got that's good no no not at all not even close nope what if he gets 300 goals a thousand points no fine still uh worth the conversation yeah but i would say no okay i depends what he does with the rest of his career mark andre flurry's last game dressed for the wild and probably in the nhl was last night yes is mark andre flurry a first ballot hall of fame yes yeah i think so too right yeah that's why you make first ballots for guys like him
Starting point is 02:05:51 three stanley cups 170 playoff games and in those 170 playoff games that he appeared in he started 166 of them one of the winningest goalies of all time top five i think top three yes yeah no that's first ballot okay uh i'm gonna say this i think every year from now on if shea weber is first ballot for some reason really good career you could argue he's in the Oh, first ballot? Get all the way out of my face. If he is first ballot, Marc-Andre Fleury, they need to invent a different ballot
Starting point is 02:06:27 because he should be more than first. His Hall of Fame speech is going to be fun. Oh, my gosh. I can't wait. It should just all be about Alan Walsh. I think we should all get invited because of Alan. You think so? Yes.
Starting point is 02:06:39 Yeah, I think so, too. I look forward to you and Alan interviewing Marc-Andre Fleury in the Hockey Hall of Fame next year. I don't think they allow interviews. I look forward. I don't think they allow interviews in the Hockey Hall of Fame. I look forward to you interviewing them in the pub next door, in front of the weird statue.
Starting point is 02:06:56 What is that statue of? It's a bunch of kids on a bench. That's the one, yeah. I used to walk by it every day after school at Ryerson, and I would fist bump all the kids because I'm a loser. That's cool, man. I'm a huge dork. Real cool.
Starting point is 02:07:11 That's a new one, actually. I had not heard that story. Have you heard that story? No, that's a new one. Okay, anything else that you guys want to hit? because we've gone deep. You. Other than me.
Starting point is 02:07:18 Who do you have winning tonight? Winnipeg or St. Louis? I think St. Louis wins tonight because it's going to be fun. Steve. I want game seven, so I want the Blues to win, but I think the Jets get it done.
Starting point is 02:07:33 They don't have Shifley, though. Who do you have winning Saturday? Colorado. Heart says Colorado, head says Dallas. I'm saying Colorado because I chose Colorado. All right.
Starting point is 02:07:43 There are your picks. The internet will hold you to them. Everyone who's like, Steve, what are your picks? And I went, Colorado's going to the Cup. I'm going to get a lot of angry texts if they blow that game. First one will be from Drew. Yeah, it's on you. First of many.
