Okay, Friday, September 26th is not today's day.
I was like, what?
But it is the date of our first live show of the year in St. Catharines
at the Course and Clubhouse.
Five HD golf simulators for you.
Real courses that you can play on.
But that's not the important part.
The important part is we're going to be there live and you can eat food.
Oh, man.
I love both those.
You're going to be able to get some triple bogey.
Either their seltzers or their premium lagers.
They have iconic cocktails as well.
So it's delicious.
So you might want to get that.
$25.
There are 200 tickets available.
and it has sold out very quickly
the last couple of years.
So if you want to buy a ticket,
it's in the link in the description
of this video or audio program
and you can hit it up.
We love starting the year off
in St. Catharines.
It's the best.
It's just such a great atmosphere
and it is one of the sweatier live shows.
There's a lot of people
packed into a small space.
Jesse and I, I think, are fine.
I think it's you.
You watch the video while I'm there.
I'm hot.
I'm red hot.
It's a very big venue.
It's not a lot of people
packed into a small space.
It is, because it's all packed into one side.
No, don't let him lie to you.
He's lying to you.
Sorry, continue.
No, it's a very big place.
It is, but when we do the live show...
Is it like 10 bays or something?
It's packed on the one corner.
Adam could be climbing...
You guys know exactly what I'm talking about.
Stop it.
You could be climbing Mount Everest,
and you'll be making small talk with everyone like,
what do you guys do to keep cool around here?
Actually, it's one of the bigger venues we do.
Yes, but you know that we're doing the live show
in the one small corner of the venue.
You guys are being intentionally dishonest.
Don't let them lie.
That doesn't make it hot.
It makes it a punk rock show is what it makes it.
You can always keep cool with one of the fine drinks
they have on the venue, like triple bogey.
Yeah, I like that.
I like that.
It's a lot of fun.
We're going to have a great time.
And ODR Hockey Heroes will be back
so you can play some video games too.
And of course, in Clubhouse,
great place for staff parties, birthday parties,
retirement, bachelor, bachelorette,
and many, many more.
hmm so office party the dundies you could host the dundies that's that's right so uh listen uh
we're uh a week into football uh we are um starting to talk about people hitting the ice
uh nhl media tour is happening this week in vegas or just outside of i'm not sure if it's
henderson or actual vegas i don't know we'll have people that we know i quit uh but it's
going to be interesting and i think uh i think then the news will really start to pick up but
as far as you know what we had last week versus this week it hasn't been the craziest weekend for
like hockey news um carrie price got traded yeah it would have been a big and right and then like
you know i mean that's we knew carrie price is getting traded yeah uh we're talking about that
we know that there was some rangers shuffling as well i'm a bit confused i was too uh seemed
abrupt and strange but it has been it's one of those things where i'm like ah this is the calm
before the storm type type show oh yes i got it i got it rookie camps and all that stuff are
starting up so you know it's coming something silly is gonna happen and it'll be the catalyst
for the rest of the of for the rest of training camp well i think we'll start with the new york
rangers just because they're the new york rangers and i think they're one of the more interesting
nhl teams because they seem to be a team with everything going for them city uh original six
uh make insane money and despite what happened last year i don't think they're bad no no exactly
and yet chaotic uh so yesterday the san jose sharks um uh uh put out a a note uh and a thank
you note from ryan clow who's the assistant general manager uh and then today he was named
the assistant general manager of the new york rangers um yeah so that's interesting and usually
they're very weird there's usually like a a lag period like there's a non-compete or something
like that but uh doesn't have to be doesn't have to be okay uh i was i was confused by it because
uh the timing's weird yeah jesse yesterday you were like yeah this the timing's weird it's kind
of abrupt and i'm like well all i know about ryan close you know the the way his his career ended
was because of the concussion issues he was with uh the Leafs organization very very briefly with
the Newfoundland Growlers um back when that was their ECHL team and he left for the same reason
and I I was worried that something like that had happened again so when I when I saw he took up a
position with the Rangers this morning I was I guess relieved uh for him but also confused I
mean it's it's good news for the Rangers do you have the statement Adam I feel like we should
read it for the context because the way the sharks and clo announced it it seemed like it was
troubling that's why i was like does anybody have info on this like what is going on behind the
scenes and you talking about how um he had concussion issues that sounds like oh my gosh
is there like something down the line we found out he had cte eventually like i don't know like
what are what are we doing here and then the next day he signs with the rangers and you're like oh
So he's fine enough to work.
He just couldn't work in the Bay Area.
So he's assistant GM.
Adam, if you want to read that statement.
And the Sharks entitled it, a statement from Ryan Clow.
And usually when you do that, it's serious and scary.
Yes.
Recently, I had to make the extremely difficult decision to resign from my position as assistant general manager with the San Jose Sharks.
I truly loved being back in San Jose and working with Mike Greer and his entire team.
But at this point, this decision is in the best interest of my family.
The franchise has an exciting future ahead and is set up to be successful in the long term.
And I'm grateful to Mike and Jonathan Becker, who is a friend of the show, for giving me the opportunity to return to San Jose.
So that was what we got yesterday.
And most of the comments, Jesse, just like you said, people are like, is he okay?
I hope everything is okay with you and your family.
That sounds like something's wrong.
yeah like i would accept expect a statement like that to precede he's in the hospital for something
yeah and and that it's just i don't know if it's just awkward phrasing or awkward timing
but that was weird that was weird yep you don't it's it's just not something you do in this
environment where somebody announces that they have to resign when they're just leaving for
another position in another city right maybe that city works better for him well he spent a lot of
time on the east coast right yeah he said he's he's probably where his kids are or wherever you
know yeah he's he's from newfoundland he's he ended his career uh down that way i forgot he
was a ranger for the hottest of minutes yeah 12 games in uh 2013 he spent a lot of time with the
devils didn't he then he played with the devils and was an assistant coach with the devils after
that so um you know the sharks are a team on the come up and they they do an insane job retaining
alumni like that was that was the one thing we we noticed when we were there is uh they're all
there you couldn't turn left or right without seeing like oh there's evgeny dabakov there's
joe thornton brian boyle there's uh dan boyle dan boyle excuse me not brian boyle rangers alum yeah
maybe he's where is he these days i forget anyway um i i was confused i was confused but it's a good
add for the rangers yeah yeah well an interesting one too i think um uh you know obviously we'll
talk about the carry price trade but that directly affected san jose and then immediately ryan close
gone and i i i don't know there's just a there's it just seems like awkward timing i don't know
how else to put it uh but uh joining ryan clow in the uh hockey operations staff and this was
tweeted out this morning by the new york rangers ryan martin has been promoted to associate uh
general manager and will continue his role as general manager of the wolf pack which is their
hl affiliate jim sullivan has been promoted to the assistant general manager position uh ryan
clow obviously has been named an assistant general manager and blake wheeler who uh last played with
the rangers not last season but the season before has been named a hockey operations advisor so
they're really trying to bring a lot of former nhl talent in there uh to advise and to be a part of
management group and it's interesting because you know the the rangers have been a chaotic
franchise for 18 months uh basically ever since they lost uh in the eastern conference final a
couple years ago and so i'm i'm not sure is that like it's september the 8th yeah you'd feel like
this is a july thing yeah it does yes i i agree with that um but you know maybe this is something
that's been percolating for a while and they're only announcing it now or finalizing it now
chris drury is one of those weird execs where uh over the last little while
it's you know it's not necessarily good it's not necessarily bad but it's like i'm hearing
chris drury's name too much you know what i mean yeah yeah every now and then it was like when um
when too much happened palgary was trading everybody and it was like i'm hearing i'm
hearing craig conroy's name too much yeah yeah and there were times where you know oh
bread for living or yeah barry trotz or i'll do this yeah i'll do this yeah there there are times
that happens um you know with with the sabers not to compare the rangers to the sabers um when they
were making hires you were like well is this a good hire is this a bad hire i'm like no no they
needed living breathing human beings right um i'm not saying the rangers bar is is that low and i'm
not trying to take shots at the sabers but i understand how this comes across um i i they need
they just need more voices uh I think a little bit more more guidance a little bit more help now
Greg Wyshynski had interesting insight because like team's assistant GMs if you're not paying
attention to that team as your number one team you're not going to know all those guys and you're
not going to know what kind of clout they have within the organization but Greg Wyshynski said
that Ryan Martin promotion reeks of someone's going to make you a GM we'd like to keep you
as long as possible here's a new title and a money bump basically so it's just shuffling it's not our
money i don't give a damn oh yeah no and a couple new voices who played in the nhl i won't be shocked
if j uh greg wischinski has a bunch of ranger scoops this year now ah i'm kidding i'm kidding
that devil's fan zero shot zero zero shot oh yeah positive they'll all be positive i have to ask
because i don't this is one thing that you know uh this show uh because we're not a rights holder
in canada um you know and and rights holders in canada get to talk to uh players and general
managers a lot more right so if you're tsn or your sports net you're gonna get the leafs gm
once a year you're gonna get some players you're gonna get whatever outside of that the leafs
basically shut you out and that's because they want to keep a close lid on everything because
there's enough drama as it is most of the time that might change yeah hopefully i'm gonna try
uh but i am curious about like the leafs have like seven assistant general managers
and the rangers have three listed here and so i can understand ryan martin being the general
manager of the harford wolf wolf pack in the way that dubas was when he was under lou and what do
the other assistant general managers do i think that's up to the gm right like what does shane
doan do for the league i know right that's what i wonder too i it's totally he's a special advisor
ah right so he's not assistant he's not so like there's there's another one what is the actual
difference between special advisor and assistant gm or associate gm or my favorite assistant to
the gm okay here's what we got here's what we got all right jesse uh assistant general manager
Brandon Pridham for the Leafs does
cap, right? Yeah. Kind of.
Yeah. Assistant General Manager
Player Personnel Derek Clancy. What does
that mean? He's Player Personnel. He was
hired by Trilliving. So Pridham, Dubas
Hire, Clancy, Trilliving Hire.
Dr. Haley Wickenheiser is
obvious. It's Player Development. That's pretty simple.
It says it right there.
Daryl Metcalf,
AGM Hockey Research and Development.
I think that's stats.
Your stats guy? Yes. Hockey Research.
Okay, and then Assistant General Manager, Minor Hockey League Ops,
and General Manager, Ryan Hardy, Toronto Marlies.
GM of the Marlies.
Okay, there you go.
All right.
And there are specific titles next to their titles.
And Brandon Pridham, I think we need to regard as more than the just cap guy at this point.
He is the Assistant General Manager.
He's the only one whose title is Assistant General Manager.
Everyone else has like a—it's almost like they were partially given the title
to give them a little bump in salary.
To give them that title and that prestige that comes along with being an AGM, but also, hey, you're specifically on player personnel, Derek Clancy.
There's a sweet spot the teams are trying to find, because the one thing that didn't really happen this offseason that we thought might was the Leafs were talking about, you know, do we have too many voices, right?
Like, wasn't that one of the things that Keith Pelley was, like, forecasting is maybe shrinking?
he wanted to shrink a lot of the extra stuff around the front office and the way the teams
run as well i had some of me thought that might mean like firings right yeah there were yes but
it's within mlsc in the names we wouldn't hear publicly got it yeah i heard i heard you know
the average team has like 50 people in their front office the leafs have like 150 plus yeah
no we talked about that on the show at the time i remember nick caprios went on the pregame and
that oh we did yeah oh okay well i i just was like oh okay well that's that seems like a lot
of people i don't know uh there can be too many voices there were times where again you don't
nashville i think they need more voices well yes yes so ottawa they needed more voices for a while
there yes there there is a sweet spot the leafs is maybe too much rangers actually strangely you
wouldn't think this of the rangers feels like they need more um yeah most teams the attrition
rates high in new york though yeah most teams are actually adding yeah uh and the rangers are one of
them okay all right that's cool i'm curious about this uh just going through this i forgot
curtis mcculaney works for the leafs now goalie coach goaltending development and scouting well
no the goalie coach is curtis sanford right yeah that's weird eh yeah yeah just just an example
of, like,
here's the job.
Well, I don't know if that's the case.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I don't...
I know it did.
Man, we're just trashing the front office here.
But most teams can't afford to do that.
What do you do, Matt?
Most teams can't afford to do that.
Oh, you leave and win a cup and you think you're a big deal
and come on back to Toronto.
No, okay. So, director of player
personnel.
You're managing how many
frig off people i don't know that seems like a lot because you look dozens and dozens jesse you
had it up on the screen there for a second just scroll down for a sec if you can look at how many
people that you would have to manage like keep going well i was thinking like the raw performance
staff equipment staff relations staff like these the people at the top are are managing all of
these people yeah but they all have their departments right like player personnel refers
specifically to the people who are in charge of the players right you know and then you got player
development which is more the research-based staff and then you got like uh well that's
haley wickenheiser and then you got the hockey research which is daryl mackoff who's talking
about the numbers side of things so everybody's got their little wing but there are like you said
a lot of people who work within mlsc and it's not like that in other organizations yeah you know
other hockey front offices operate a little more lean than the leafs do so the reason i was making
that point so they have a director of
goaltending they have
the Leafs have a goalie coach the Marlies
have a goalie coach as well it's Hanu Toivonen
yeah so they have a
manager and two coaches for like
what six people
how many goalies do they have you can't
expect the Leafs goalie coach
to also goalie coach the Marlies guys
okay yeah so that's why they have two
yeah but then the two
guys have a manager yeah they need a boss
what did well Steve not
Not every place you work at is Sportsnet where you have no boss.
Damn.
Damn.
You're not going to not have a boss?
Damn.
That was so weird.
It's weird.
That's why you need a chain of command, as Jesse points out.
You see?
I'm just saying.
Let them fucking do it.
No, no.
Let them make videos from their house after the game.
That seems like a luxury.
Fire Curtis McElhaney.
No.
No.
We're getting shirts.
I'm just saying.
Absolutely not.
Hashtag fire McElhaney.
No.
No, it was absolutely not.
You know what's so well the first time when we let McElhinney go?
Can we title the show, Steve?
Can we title the show Fire McElhinney?
Absolutely not.
Call it Mac is Back.
Yeah.
Awful.
I don't know why you want this man to not have a job.
Assistant General Manager Lainey.
You're really fighting for him to get fired.
No, I'm just saying it seems like a luxury that do you think
you deserve to have that probably let's let's look let's look i've never heard of a head
i don't think they have that many blue why are you picking on the blue jacket no i just don't
think they have that many you know what i shouldn't have i should have said sabers they
were right there yeah but i've already given them a shot all right coyotes are no longer an option
blue jackets front office they got a president senior advisor one agm a director of player
personnel and the general manager of the cleveland monsters director of hockey operations a senior
manager by the way hockey operations team relations specialist uh specialist skating consultant
development coaches that might be under there and hockey operations assistant so there you go a lot
leaner get rekt i i'm just saying i think the leafs operate better and keep people employed
And who did the Leafs get Curtis McElhinney from?
Blue Jackets.
Oh, I'm also looking for, I'm looking at the Anaheim Ducks one.
Because they're, I think, one of the leaner front offices out there.
Media Guide.
I'm assuming it's in the Media Guide section.
They might have a head of goaltending, actually.
Do you want me to pull it up?
I can't navigate their site.
Okay, if the NHL owns all the websites, why aren't they the same?
No, Jesse, once I know one way to do it, that's the only way I do it.
why would i do it differently why would i look i pulled it up you've been a boomer since you were
like 14 i know i know jesse said he said you're gonna hit your peak in your 60s and he's right
here's the coaching staff he said oh there it is uh there's their coaches that's significantly
smaller performance staff yeah joel quinville and jay woodcroft boy that's gonna give a lot
of people jumps the joel the joel quinville hiring is one of those where you're not gonna
remember it until september like 26 hits yeah yeah and you're like oh yeah he's back and he's
on the ducks and so is jay i forgot you yeah jay woodcroft too there's a there's a couple of those
around the league where it's like i'm not that's not gonna hit me until we're back in the swing
of things the guys on the ice and the goalie coach is peter budaj budaj that's a crazy one
that's a while since i've heard that name he had a good go if you want to go oh yeah just like
look at front offices look at front offices to be like there's a name from the early 2000s there's
a guy i knew there's a guy who like he was on like maybe three hockey cards yeah you know what i mean
no peter budai had more than that he was a starter no he was a starter he was a starter and i think
uh so anyway yeah okay i guess i guess we're just waiting on the rangers to tell us where these
general managers will work and what they will do i think we would be extremely fortunate to
find that information out well the leafs put it on their site you don't think the rangers would
No, because the Rangers are, the Rangers actually are everything we accuse the Leafs of being when it comes to like being cagey with the media.
Oh, okay.
And everything.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
No, they've had a tough little.
Yeah.
Oh, you think?
Yeah.
No, everything's going great with the Rangers on and off the ice for 12 to 18 months.
Yeah.
Interesting.
You know, it's fine.
I was thinking about it this weekend.
And like there was a clip going viral.
I think it was from, yeah, it was from Chicklets.
And, you know, it was about the Marner stuff and Keith Yandel was going off.
And I know it's just a bug, Paul Bissonette, but he said, yeah, after the way that the
fans and media treated Marner, like no one's signing in Toronto.
And I thought about that for a second.
I'm like, I know he's trolling biz, but we do hear that a lot.
And I think that is a sentiment.
And the way that the Rangers actively sewered some of their best, like franchise icons of
the last 18 months nobody says that about new york no well i guess and they're gonna see right
with panarin i think that's that's gonna be the big litmus test for the rangers and like can you
retain somebody after all of this drama is does panarin stick around yes but the the narrative
is like wow it's the rangers and they'll always have enough money to do whatever all right but
i'm excited to see how that narrative upholds during this turmoil it'll be yeah i i have a
hard time you know what's funny even when they were bad they did not behave that way like and
i'm not talking about like when they still had henrik lundqvist and we're like hey we're gonna
be bad now and they were bad for like i don't know six the letter like yeah the letter i'm
talking about like early 2000s when they threw money at everybody when they had like eric lindros
Bobby Holy, Pavel Bure.
Theron Fleury, Valerie Kamensky.
Man, their roster was juiced and they stunk.
Yeah, Jager Bure.
Yeah, that was crazy.
Yeah, they just didn't behave like it.
No, they didn't.
So like for them to do, even when they announced,
hey, we're doing a rebuild, it lasted 45 minutes.
Yeah, exactly.
I mean, that is the benefit of,
because being rich in New York, I hear is pretty great.
I am neither rich nor living in New York,
so i can't relate but uh i'll have to take your word for it but i've i've heard that it's pretty
fantastic and so you know maybe that's the thing it's like it's new york baby go and enjoy yep
i kind of want to go back what to new york yeah why is that uh because you want to go i want to
finally see a ranger i want to go to the inside of madison square garden okay here instead of just
being on the outside here's what we got okay rangers roster 2004 bobby holeek mark messier
alexei kovalev martin ruchinsky brian leach matthew barnaby eric lindros peter nedved yaramir
uh i'm just trying to think of valamir malikov who back in the day was unreal ansik carter boris
miranov uh jamie lundmark was a great great player like jamie lundmark good players if we were at the
bar right now the whole table would have gone jb lundmark uh and they also had they had no
goaltending that year no mike richter uh that year i don't even remember if the 2004 rangers
were bad uc marketing had a 930 percentage they did miss the place but think about that with
with yager and i think beret had just left like the year before maybe yeah so like it's it was
a crazy roster i'm just throwing that out there yeah everybody that's not that roster is not
supposed to miss the playoffs no certainly not um okay so i just wanted to we had to hit that now
let's talk a little bit of uh let's talk a little carrie price here because he was traded
and what i don't understand about this particular trade because it was to the
friend of the show san jose sharks the entire organization friend of the show yes um i don't
understand it so carrie price's contract was moved to the sharks for gannon larock now gannon larock
is not going to play again it looks like no carrie price we know is not going to play again
carrie put out that thing this weekend he's like i'm still a hab for life but he had a teal habs
jersey which i thought was hilarious um why why did the montreal canadians do this deal why did
the san jose sharks do this deal because there was a fifth round pick in next year's draft
included in this and very little real money that actually has to be paid out by the san jose sharks
why take on this cap space why chew it up why bother do you want to do it yeah you do it okay
so it seemed like you wanted to do the the san jose sharks do this one the the real money thing
it matters the bonus that was paid to kerry price a couple weeks ago makes things easier with the
money because he was owed about 7.5 he was owed 7.5 million dollars in actual payroll this season
to be paid five million of that has been paid out already so that uh 5.5 actually was paid out in
bonus so there's two million dollars left that needs to be owed to them and that two million
dollars 60 is covered by insurance so the actual money that the sharks have to pay carry price
is less than a million dollars around 800 grand so it's a bottom it's a it's a bottom pairing or
bottom pairing right defense it doesn't matter it's a it's a accounting error the amount of
money they have to pay is actually even less than that okay because gannon larock makes money
oh right so they they the amount of money he makes from puckpedia i believe his base salary
is 775 000 there you go his cap hit is higher than that because he has a performance bonus
which i assume he's not going to hit on account of he's not going to play so you're also saving
the money on gannon larock's payout so essentially it's zero dollars that the sharks have to pay
Carey Price this season and the Sharks need that 10.5 million dollars on their cap it so that they
can trade players off of their roster this season they need to hit the floor oh so they can maintain
the floor so they can they're at the floor now they were they're above the floor now they're
good now now that they have Carey Price so and if they want to trade guys they can if if the Sharks
want to go throughout this season and move some of these veteran pieces off of their roster and
dump salary and just get prospects and draft picks back now they have that ability without
threatening to go under the 70 million dollar cap cap floor is it 70 million now it's 70 million
which is quite high for a shark team that doesn't want to employ guys this season they already have
for two more years at eight million bucks though in that too so that'd be 18 million in dead cap
right so they're still like there's guys there they need to move and they need a guarantee like
we're not going to threaten to be under that 70 million dollars so from the shark's perspective
they need that they want that so that's why they acquired carrie price in montreal
they're dumping that so that they can accrue cap space because the sharks are going to be
under the cap no matter what go ahead well no no keep going keep going i've got it oh i was
going to say that the montreal canadians need to have the ability to accrue cap space this
upcoming season which is something they haven't been able to do since the 2022 season when this
happened so every single year they're going into the season with their hands tied behind their back
because their cap is strapped once they get to the trade deadline.
And this year, they're going to have $20 million of accrued cap space
depending on how everything plays out.
That's what's kind of earmarked by Puckpedia
that they'll have at the deadline.
And that allows them to also not be in bonus overage every single year
because when you have carry prices deal on your books,
you start the year above the cap in LTIR.
But you don't get that benefit if you have bonus overages for last year.
They're actually paying $1.75 million in overages this season.
Because of last year, they spent the entire season over the cap.
So every time somebody hits something,
they're guaranteed to have that cap hit on their cap the following season
because they're already over this season,
and they can't go more over that season.
That is a great breakdown.
It makes a lot of sense for Montreal to dump this cap hit.
I don't know when you became our capologist,
but you're really good at it.
The cap is fun.
You're the fit for it.
The cap is fun.
Yeah, except...
It's like when we talk to CJ and he's like,
oh, yeah, I read the CBA.
I'm like, you read the CBA?
You don't just like know tidbits?
Reading War and Peace.
Okay, so here's a list of guys
that are UFAs after this season
on the San Jose roster.
Okay.
And by the way, according to Puckpedia,
the Sharks still have $9.2 million
in projected space now.
And by the way, that gets bigger and bigger
and bigger towards trade deadline.
So they'll have like $100 million available
trade deadline i'll be insane uh but alex wenberg uh five million bucks he's on the last year of
his deal worth mentioning barclay goudreau i don't think anyone's taking this deal but he he
has two years left at 3.6 million oh you're nuts at the trade deadline for like a couple playoff
runs yeah he feels like a true living guy actually somebody's gonna convince themselves like oh he
still got it yeah you know he had it the last time he was in the playoffs which was two years
That's a long time.
That's a long time ago, Stephen.
Jeff Skinner is a San Jose Shark.
Oh, man.
Three million bucks.
That's the second year of the deal he signed with the Oilers.
I forget how he ended up there, but I think there was a trade.
Wallman?
No.
No.
Because he was in the...
I'm on it.
I have no idea.
You don't have to be on it.
I was just thinking of the most recent deal.
I'm on it!
Just click his name out.
I know.
That's what I'm doing.
I'm on it!
That's why Steve's like, I'm on it.
Literally, just click his name.
I did.
I did.
And then his transactions are there.
Signed a one-year contract.
Oh, okay, so he only signed one year in Edmonton,
and then he signed with San Jose this summer.
I'm going to beat you up.
Jeff Skinner, as I mentioned, $3 million.
Adam Godet's got two years at 2 mil.
Carl Grunstrom, Leaf Great, $1.8 million.
He's a UFA.
Ryan Reeves, Leaf Great, $1.35 million.
He's got a year left.
And you have to think with Ryan, it probably is last year.
Delandria and Kurashev are both RFAs.
I would think both will re-sign.
They got Kurashev?
Yeah, they did.
nick nick letty is a san jose shark okay i don't remember the deal four million bucks i'm lying i
don't remember this happening uh i don't remember he signed uh he signed that contract in saint
louis and then was traded there this offseason uh john clingberg signed with the san jose man
four million bucks that's the same thing as like the quenville head coaching yeah you're like what
We're in...
Klayberg.
Oh, yeah.
This season.
Oh, yeah.
July.
Mario Ferraro, 3.25 million.
Now, he's a valuable piece.
I would think the Sharks are going to hang on.
I think the opportunity was last trade deadline
because there's rumors that they're looking to move him
and then they're like, no, let's just keep him.
So I think he's there to stay.
Yeah, because you might need a Mario Ferraro.
Yeah.
He might be good in a year.
Dimitri Orlov is also there.
He was traded...
Or no, he signed.
Signed there.
He had a brutal playoffs with Carolina, but has been a pretty steady defenseman.
Full no move this year, and then a partial next at $6.5 million, and he's 34.
Timothy Lilligren is in the second year of the two-year deal he signed with the Leafs that never played on.
$3 million.
He's a UFA for his first time next year.
Vinny DeArne is a San Jose Shark as well.
The whole roster is, oh, yeah.
Holy cow.
And he's a UFA, $2 million.
bucks shakira muka madulan uh one million bucks this year i believe he just signed that extension
he's an rfa and then jack thompson is the other one that's listed he's 23 are noted guy who scored
against the leafs yeah he did he sure did uh and then in net just because i want to complete the
circle here uh nedeljkovic is also a san jose shark oh yeah and yaroslav askerov who spent a
lot of last year injured unfortunately and i think probably starts the season uh in the ahl with the
barracuda to make sure but they they only have carrie price alex and elikovic and yaroslav
askerov no i think he's in the nhl this year okay there you go yeah so on the montreal side of
things the the cap space like that's the big driving factor now you have 4.5 million dollars
in actual cap dollars and you don't have to do your funny math every time you're trying to do
something and that fifth round pick that they gave up means so little to the canadian i know
oh this season in this upcoming draft they have a first two seconds a third two fourths a six and
two sevenths they don't need it they didn't they're not gonna think about that i think they're
okay again yeah yeah if they want like there's gonna there's about to be a million players on
waivers like they can steal some of them they could yeah go out and now do those things yeah
I was saying there's going to be someone who's going to do something interesting during training camp.
The Habs are a top five candidate now.
An interesting net with the San Jose Sharks.
10% of their cap is in retention and buyout and cap charges.
So 7% of it is there's three buyouts on their roster.
One of them actually tweeted about it this weekend, and it was very funny.
Did you see that?
Blasic, yeah.
Mark Edward Vlasic, who was a Sharks legend, said,
Oh, Kerry, we just missed each other.
That was funny.
Very funny.
4.6666667 million dollars.
And Marty Jones.
I didn't know Martin Jones is on a bio for this year and next at 1666667.
This year and next.
And then Nikolai Kizhnov.
Oh, Nijav.
Nijav.
Yes, yes, yes.
you're saying yes yes yes like i've heard of this person oh i have i have uh everybody knows when
that happened yeah big uh i think right-handed defenseman he's a lefty sorry oh well he had a
he had a good season he had a good start to his career kind of petered out okay and then so why
is he why did he get bought out he petered because he petered out he didn't nickel i he petered all
right uh and then retained name the two guys retained carlson yes that's how many more years
Oh, my God.
Five.
Well, it's only the remainder of his contract.
How many years does Eric have?
Two.
Yep.
Okay.
1.5 million bucks.
Who's the other guy?
He was a shark for a long time.
He was.
Captain.
What?
Am I right?
Wait, you know the answer?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Steve, guess it.
Guess it?
He was a captain for a long time?
no no no he wasn't captain he wasn't captain he was where he did wear an a but he was wearing
a captain because logan kutcher was the captain yeah i was like that's like three guys uh
uh freaking help me who trade deadline bob mckenzie pulls out it pulls up to the tsn desk
and goes wham here's the deal of the deadline two years ago to not last deadline but the deadline
before the sharks i have no deal of the deadline deal of the deadline i'm blanking man tomas
hurdle ah son of a gun and uh they have to pay him one point three eight three eight seven five
until 29 30 but they they got a they got a lot a lot back for that so it's pretty solid so you're
saying the rebuild might last a bit i well listen i look at the roster and they've got you know
will smith and macklin on the second year of their elcs william ecklund's going to need an
extension at some point oh no he got one 5.6 million which kicks in next year that was recent
um but like i look at that and i'm like okay well uh there's your there's most of your forwards
um and misa i misa yeah they're gonna be so absurd and listen if they're bad again this year
they could add McKenna man man I think they're trying they they are trying I have a lot of faith
in what they're doing you got to be careful about tearing it down too far well I think the difference
about we always use the tearing it down too far and we go the Buffalo Sabres the Sabres and sort
of now the Blackhawks though okay but look at how both of those franchises are run yes the Blackhawks
used to be a first rate organization i think the sabers with different ownership would be great by
now yeah with honest to goodness the same people in the organization like same player well there's
like four people that work there that's the first yeah yeah yeah you need a different gm too you
just have the gm who's the best friends with the owner yeah just gets to run things in forever
it's like the 80s leaf set that's how they ran things literally like oh this guy can get along
with this weird owner i i uh somebody said to us like a while ago i was like you know kevin i was
nice guy but not a gm at least not yet if they gotta add nice guy to your resume listen we've
all had to add to our resume because there wasn't much on it that's before i sue you at least i want
to tell you that you're a nice person the best thing steve's ever come up with is that kevin
adams is smithers that's an all-timer he is smithers i mean mr burke's like he's helping
run the power plant it's factual information i'm just imagining them frolicking pressing the button
if we ever need kevin adams for an interview he's going to tell us to fuck off why would we need
a i don't know adams we we probably don't i think the beauty of the show is kevin adams
like i don't i don't know why we need that man you're really alienating yourself from that person
in a position of power yeah i don't know fuck them that's not that's not what the show is can
i tell you imagine it's the fan show people always say like you know when they start a podcast it's
like well what guests how do you book guests i'm like when do you ever hear guests on the stv
ever we just don't have them and i'll tell you when it's fine to have guests you just can't
rely on them no exactly when i'll tell you when i realize i'm like oh we were and this was early
on uh oh we're like not gonna we're gonna just have to do this because we can't really have
guests um we tried early on to get a guy from the boston globe i think on oh and what happened back
in the day i don't know if this is still the case but when you used to make appearances at radio
stations if you were like a reporter or an insider the radio station would pay you and it might be a
couple hundred bucks or something like that but if you did enough of those appearances that was
them really good side hustle money and the radio station was getting something out of it because
they were getting your expertise and they should pay for your labor right yeah now what's happened
with radio and with media in the last 10 years is they've gone well last 15 they've gone yeah what
if we just didn't what if we just didn't and then people have people in a lot of cases going like
what if i just didn't listen to the radio yeah and so it's a bit of a bit of a drowning circle
here but that's where we're at but i remember we asked this guy from the boston globe i forget his
name i can't remember him i don't gray hair guy whatever i'll leave it uh but he wanted like 500
bucks and we were like yeah like we don't have i don't think he said 500 but i think you're
conflating two stories am i because there was a guy who honest to god gets he probably gets like
half a dozen interview requests a day and he finally had to be like my price is 500 bucks
leave me alone yeah which that one i understood this person was not that big a deal okay and i
was and they were still asking some significant no there's they were they just wanted me to go
away yeah which is fine that's fine lots of people want me to go away that's okay let's just say go
away though sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's
where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the
things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down
and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and their way around on that is like
well it's a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't
want to i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer
thing chemicals you gotta have the right chemicals see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit
and I employed a tasker.
Here's the thing.

One thing I should have spent more time on is the guy that was being traded for Cary Price, and that's Gannon LaRock, who will always be able to say, I was traded for Cary Price.
And that's a pretty big accomplishment in life.
Yes.
But, Jesse, you have more to say on Gannon.
I wanted to bring up Gannon Laroque because there's not going to be another time in our lives we get to talk about Gannon Laroque.
And Gannon Laroque is special to this podcast because Steve owns a Gannon Laroque jersey.
Yes.
What?
It might even be game worn.
I'm pretty sure it's game worn.
He wore number 28 when he was actually playing for the Sharks.
But last season, he didn't play for the Sharks.
So I think they made a jersey for him, and it's number 29.
And I've seen one photo of him in a 29 jersey.
So I know it exists.
And he's been in a 29 San Jose Barracuda jersey.
He never played in the NHL.
But it looks like his career is over because of a bunch of injuries that he's been dealing with.
But maybe he works his way back to some sort of playing level.
But right now he's not playing hockey.
But Steve, why do you have a Gannon LaRock San Jose Barracuda jersey?
Because when we were in San Jose, God, I hope you have the photo.
Yeah, I'm going to put it up right now.
Awesome.
When we were in San Jose for the Barracuda game, we got to do a puck drop.
And we were all given different jerseys.
I got a white Barracuda jersey.
Adam got a black one.
Jesse got a gray one.
We all got different ones.
And I don't know where they got these jerseys from.
Maybe they just went into their office and they pulled three ones at random.
but they gave me a gannon laroque san jose barracuda jersey and i wore it for the ceremonial
face-off right there at center ice yeah look up steve you freaking idiot look up there's a big
freak off camera there you go oh yeah captain half beard so this jersey that steve is wearing
to drop this puck is a 29
Gannon-Laroque jersey.
It's a one of one.
Oh, I know.
How many people on earth can
say that they have the jersey
of the dude who's traded for Carey Price?
I don't know if Gannon-Laroque has that jersey.
How many games did he play with
the Barracuda?
That's a great question, man. He didn't play any last
year, but a year before, I think
he played a couple. Let's see. Poor guy. Adam,
did you have anyone in your jersey? It looks like you got
of 74 i think i do i can't remember who it is yeah they all have somebody on it yeah i would
have no idea who was on my jersey i keep forgetting downstairs in my office i keep forgetting people
have lives and they don't remember stupid shit like that yeah canon played uh in the 23 24 season
nine games for the barracuda in the 21 22 season he played three games for the bear so you must
have got a game worn one that they weren't selling gannon the rock jersey no i'm i think we all got
game-worn jerseys. I'm like 90%
sure that that's a jersey
that's made for Gannon Laroque. We gotta text
Ryan. We gotta text Ryan.
So I actually got two jerseys
last year that
I think might be game-worn
and like I didn't ask for them. There's
Gannon Laroque who they just gave
it to me and I wore it in that photo.
Then, so when we
started doing the Oh Wow videos
I just started
going around the OHL and like asking
for memorabilia and like jerseys to put in that little shadow box sure um and i asked the north
bay battalion for a jersey yeah they send me this beautiful like the material's thick it's definitely
like there's no way it's a fan jersey yeah because they are thicker and meatier right there's like a
and the other thing is the jersey is not a north bay battalion jersey it's brampton it says brampton
on it and the name is clark and i looked it up and it's a guy named matt clark and the it's him
he's a second round pick of the anaheim ducks from 2009 and he actually did play nine games in the
nhl with the ducks there's no way they just pressed this jersey and held on to it for more than a
decade i think i might have a game more that's great matt clark jersey i like that add it add
it to the list if you're a pack rat like me adam you would hate this oh you hate every part of
yes yeah this is not for me i'm like yeah give me the niche i i would love to know what niche
game worn jerseys people have like like one of the players that you're like there's no there's
no way anybody knows who this is do you know about the williams jersey no um jeff vayette uh one time
at like a marley's equipment sale bought a uh jeremy williams jersey because the marley's had
jeremy williams and they misspelled it with two eyes oh wii put it for sale yeah and he owns a
jeremy williams that's funny yeah my my theory with your laroque jersey is that they had it
there for him in case like he came back or he could play last year but he never did so that's
why they just gave it to you it was ready for him to play in the game but i don't think he ever
played in it because he didn't play for them he only played nine games in the 23 24 season he
didn't play anytime last year saying it's game ready but not game worn that's just my theory
if you want it back it's yours you can is he from quebec he is edmonton alberta oh i was gonna say
i hope someone gives him a hamster jersey what position does he play d defense hey let's go
let's go love that yeah so montreal fans you didn't get a prospect in this deal too
he's probably never gonna everyone's like what are the cap implications what's the draft pick
my first thought was i have that guy's jersey i thought like we're never gonna have a chance to
talk about him ever again no but we took our time we took our time to talk about it i'm glad we did
this is easily the most in all of media anyone has discussed gannon larocque on this on on his
side of the carry not even tsn is tsn montreal is talking about tv uh yeah rds none of them no
chance no chance um i want to mention uh a couple of things in in montreal um the first thing
obviously is the passing of ken dryden um that is a i mean listen ken dryden is as close to a
polymath in canada as you get this is a guy that was who lost less than 100 games over 10 years
with the montreal canadians and as soon as he stopped playing they stopped winning five straight
cups to finish out the 70s and uh you know what's amazing about him is during that time like early
on in his career he he basically said to the montreal canadians you know what i know you
drafted me and i know i'm really good at hockey but like i just want to be a lawyer uh and so
got his law degree while he was playing and then immediately once the 10 years were up he still
had gas in the tank but he's like nah i'm gonna be a lawyer now and then he was a senator and then
he was you know he was not an ottawa senator no no no like a senator government yeah uh he wrote
books he was the ceo of the toronto maple leafs for a long while and had a really big part in
their turnaround and resurgence at the end of the 90s along with pat quinn didn't just write books
the game is considered one of the best books in all of hockey yes yeah and he wrote a book about
uh steve montador and his concussion syndrome uh issues and what's amazing about that book
is he dedicated it to one person and that's gary batman and what's amazing about that story and
ken was on agent provocateur i think it's season two and we posted some of the links on our sdpn
channels this weekend um he he and gary were good friends they were very cordial got together
and ken wrote the book published the book sent it to gary and gary never spoke to him again
and wow uh and you know because i think you know the nhl knew that they had some pretty significant
at the time they thought they might have pretty significant um legal responsibility it didn't end
up being that way that the judge ruled in the nhl's favor but you know ken was he was so
notoriously disinterested in talking about the achievements of his career that he really wouldn't
do it unless he was talking about his books that he was publishing and so he did the game which is
you know a must read but he also did uh the 1972 summit series from his perspective the series and
that is that is required reading as well and that was the only way that you could get him to come on
and talk about his career uh because he was like he was so brilliant with the game but he was so
brilliant beyond the game that you almost he was like i'm bored of that i don't want to talk about
that like whatever like what what more could i possibly add to that discussion now i will tell
you as a content creator perspective uh anytime ken dried and spoke we would have listened um but
it's a it's just the end of a an incredible life of a canadian who genuinely was head and shoulders
above the average person in terms of their intellect but was extraordinarily humble as
well he feels like he would have been a terrible friend to have if you had strict parents why well
ken would have done it oh you're oh he's he's in the nhl he's one of the best players ever oh he
made team canada oh he's he's a clerk at a law firm oh he's a lawyer oh he's a senator oh he's
the president of the leafs or the gm of the leafs or both yeah absolutely oh he's a best-selling
author he his resume imagine being ken dryden's sibling yes his resume is genuinely cartoonish
yeah in yeah uh how just illustrious it is his his i wrote about him in uh in hockey rants and
raves on in the goalie mount rushmore uh chapter which is one of my favorites because his numbers
are so silly they're just ridiculously silly a record of 258 wins 57 losses and 74 ties
the most losses he ever had in a single season was 10 he had 10 and it happened twice including
the final season of his career that's what he was like you know what i've had a lot of losses
And career is like parts of eight seasons, isn't it?
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
And like that first season, he plays like six games or something.
Yeah.
Six games, went 6-0 with a 9.57.
It's not a very real long career.
Like it's not like Ken Dryden was in the NHL for 14 years
and had this illustrious long thing.
no he came in he did his thing won five stanley cups real quick and was the best goalie ever and
then he left the 1972 summit series i forgot uh was he had played one season in the nhl like one
full one it was the 71 72 was his first full season um in the league and how good was the
darter he he was 39 8 and 15 so he was nearly twice as likely to tithe and lose um with a 9 30
save percentage eight shutouts the man had only five more losses than assists wow he had three
Wow.
I think if Ken Dryden had done this during like now,
we wouldn't get everything that Ken Dryden has done in his career
because the money would have been too good for him.
He cared though.
Do you get the sense that he cared?
I think if the Montreal Canadiens or the San Jose Sharks or whoever were like,
hey, here's $10 million for us eight-year contract.
He'd be in the NHL a little longer.
Yeah.
Oh, you know, that's what I'm saying.
Yeah, I can tough it out.
Joe Dryden is such a product of his time.
Do you know what I mean?
He's a product of the 70s where it's like there isn't $100 million on the table for these guys to play sports.
He had the opportunity to do this and then leave and go do something else as well.
And there's so many guys where you look back.
Baseball is so funny for this where it's like, oh, this guy who played for the Yankees.
He was the starting first baseman for 10 years.
He was also the town's cow man.
He took care of the cows.
He made the cowbells.
yeah like football's great for that too they got no leading running running back in 1954
he was the uh he was the town council as well you know yeah he was he also taught math you know like
that's how it was back then but i feel like he's such a product of his time he's such a special
human being yes i mean like when he played the nhl guys would have just been like 10 years removed
from having a summer job you're absolutely right and like so i'm just looking at his wikipedia page
here. I forgot this part. So the worst trade
in NHL history was conducted
by the Boston Bruins, but it's not
Rask for Raycroft.
It's actually
trading Ken Dryden
to the Montreal Canadiens
for somebody named Paul Reed and Guy
Allen. Maybe even Guy Allen. Who knows?
Dryden
was told by his agent that he'd been
drafted by the Canadiens and did not find out
until the mid-1970s that he'd actually been
drafted by the Bruins.
That's hilarious.
And it's funny, rather than play for the Canadiens,
because he was drafted in 64,
he pursued a Bachelor of Arts at Cornell
and played hockey until his graduation there five years later.
When he played for the Cornell Big Red,
he won 76 of 81 starts.
It just doesn't seem real.
Absolute lunacy.
In his first game, the Canadiens won 5-1
against the pittsburgh penguins who sucked uh and he won he he stopped obviously 35 of 36 shots so
this is a guy that just whatever he did he was great at and i think uh deserves you know any of
the uh i'm sure the first hockey night in canada of the year ron mclean's diving right into a ken
dryden thing and i think that's gonna take 40 minutes it's listen it should take 45 dude you
think that the Habs first
Saturday night game or maybe even just first game of the
year, you know that they love a big
torch ceremony. They used to be
really good at them. Now they're just really slow.
No disrespect to the Montreal Canadiens because they
used to be great at pregame ceremonies. Now I'm like
guys, snap it up.
Pick it up. Take your time.
That's a hot take that I don't know if a lot of people
are going to be on your side about. With Ken Dryden, you
take your time. It's going to be
exemplary.
Yeah. No, what I meant previously,
jesse is remember we were at our live show last year for the leafs canadians first game where uh
uh they you know they when they shut them out yeah when they shut them out sam montemot stopped
41 shots to the chest 47 the canadians were like it was like 40 different things coming out as a
tour oh here's nick suzuki and here's blah it was annoying but this will be amazing and i think a
lot of miss i think a lot of montrealers like that i guess well the long drawn out ceremony i know
But if it means something, it's like, oh, this is just the start of the year
and we're going to take 40 minutes to soak it up.
How about this?
Start the game on time and back time the ceremony.
Ken Dryden, though, you can take as much time as you want.
Do you want to play some of Agent Provocateur?
Sure.
When he was on.
Let's do it.
Almost all of the players, Alan, that you represent now
and those that you will represent in the future,
they've come up in minor hockey where none of this is a factor.
I mean, you go to the rink. I go to the rink. We have two grandsons who are 14 and 11 who play minor hockey. They live in Connecticut. They play hockey in the in the northeast. We're able to catch their games streamed. We watch them play. None of this stupid stuff. They play like crazy. They skate like crazy. They pass like crazy. They do stuff that is unimaginable.
That's the nature of today's game. That's where the possibilities are. That's the future game, not the one that many people in the NHL offices or in the PA offices are the former players who played the game, who are that wonderful voice because they played the game. The problem is they never played this game. Almost all of the players, Alan, that you.
he's talking there about like the rough and fighting and that yeah the headshot stuff and
how it just when you go to the the rinks now nobody's really doing that because skills on
display and it's so much better yes you know yeah and i it's funny because you do hear people go oh
yeah all these guys coming up all they do is watch youtube highlight videos i'm like so they're so
instead of sitting in a room with a bunch of sweaty old guys going over game footage they're
at home from seven years old watching youtube game footage so that they can so that they can
get better no that's a bad thing and what's amazing about it is people are like yeah and
if the nhl expands anymore it's all of a sudden just gonna suck because there aren't there isn't
enough skill coming up i'm here to tell you there is more skill the game's going that way and i
don't know i i ken was prescient in that he was so forward thinking on yes you don't need to go
and out there and be like, I'm going to punch somebody in the face
to win this game. You can go
and you can win it. Sometimes you do.
If you want someone to talk
about hockey like it's the love of
their life, go and listen to
Ken Dryden.
He just
speaks so beautifully.
Forget goalie
Mount Rushmore. He's on the
hockey Mount Rushmore of people.
Greatest people
of all time.
My favorite story with him is
uh when he was on his break so played for the habs when it worked at a law firm
alan was uh in the hospital as a nine-year-old and he wrote to his hero ken dryden and dryden
responded and was like don't worry i'm coming back yeah alan posted that this weekend he did
he did and if there was twitter he could have been like oh look at this letter i got but there
wasn't um yeah so anyway uh go back and check that out and alan uh alan and i will be doing
an episode this week where Alan's just going to tell
Ken Dryden stories because
he idolized Ken Dryden.
This is a... Oh, I know. That was his favorite
player. He's the reason Alan played goalie.
Alan played goalie at McGill. So he's a pretty good
player himself. And I think
that I think we'll have some great
stories. I texted when I was writing
Hockey Rants and Raves, I texted Alan a
question about Ken Dryden and he called me for
45 minutes.
He just loves the man. Loves him. Absolutely.
Can't say enough.

The other thing I want to mention, you know, we talk about this being Joe Bowen's last
year in montreal pierre i hope i'm saying his last name right it could be pierre hoed or hoot
uh julian always calls him pierre hoed pierre hoed uh i'm sorry julian i can't pronounce french the
way you can uh he will be 50 years in broadcasting this year wow and he will that's 3500 hockey games
and he also does 600 he's done 600 f1 races for rds uh because remember uh uh formula one's huge
in quebec they obviously have the race in montreal every year too um but uh you know it's it's
fascinating because he's 68 years old and um man he's in you know he he's he's got you know age is
catching up with him he's going uh he's got shingles right now but still won't miss a game
still won't miss a call sucks one of the things that i think is going to be very interesting
uh that they're gonna have to solve is with this new rogers deal uh rogers not only owns the right
to english hockey in canada but they also own french and rogers as a company does not have
much presence in quebec like you know they've left that it's a different you know doing business in
quebec versus english canada it's a different world different set of laws like the you know
we have common law here. They have coded law, which is based on like Napoleonic code, right?
It's just a different set of, it's the French law versus the English law. And so what's fascinating
about the rights there is RDS and some of the other current rights holders have said,
we can't make money. We can't even break even at what it might cost us to run games in French
after 2526. Now, if you're owning hockey rights in Canada, you are not making money off them
anymore. They're considered, and you see this in the Jerry Jones documentary too, a lost leader.
Jerry Jones in the NFL had a big part in Fox buying NFL rights in the 90s, and they paid such
a high price for them. Everybody's like, well, wait a second, we can't afford this. And Rupert
Murdoch's thing was, well, we don't care if we can't make money off this particular project
because we know as a fledgling network
that owning NFL rights will allow us to have,
legitimize us as a sports network
and allow us to have more coverage in the States.
And they went from like, say, 60% coverage
of the United States to like 99% coverage
as soon as they bought those rights
because that's kind of how it works.
What's happening now is RDS and TVA
are maybe priced out of this.
And the question will become, what will take its place?
And, you know, people are like, well, the Habs should just start their own subscription network.
Well, actually, Rogers owns the rights.
So the Montreal Canadiens would have to buy or lease the rights from Rogers in order to do that.
And I think they'll figure this out.
It's not like we're going into 2627 without a French language broadcast.
but i do think it's worth mentioning that there seems to be some serious reluctance from the two
major providers there to do that right now in terms of how prohibitive the cost will be you
know i'm pretty critical of russia's but i i don't think they're that stupid i think they'll figure
that out yeah i just think it's something on the radar we should mention especially for our french
canadian fans too right it's something to flag yeah and and i'm i'm curious about how that's all
going to go because like people are like well if rogers owns all the rights that means amazon's out
and the reality is amazon monday night hockey although we have no announcement on what it'll
be after next season or after this season that is a leased night from rogers already they paid
rogers in order to have access to that so uh you know it's very possible that amazon monday night
hockey continues beyond next season and i think a lot of people hope that it will because it's been
a very very different and good product project product i like it but i'm curious about uh what
the french language thing is i think that's going to be fascinating they kind of talk about it here
in the in the article he's got a there's an article in the montreal gazette you should check
out but yeah anyway just worth mentioning flagging it's good to know um and i think with that unless
you guys do you have anything else you want to you're dying to hit hockey wise because what i
thought we could do is just ask a few more questions we didn't get a lot to a lot of them
last week you know what i mean like a longer press press conference yeah what do you think
jesse steve all right let's do it the steve dangle press conference
all right this question comes from hot wings 97 oh yeah they write should teams play two to three
times while in a city to cut down on travel and build rivalries like baseball i think they should
play series they did that in coven and i liked it yeah yeah um i think they should i don't really
get why they don't hockey and basketball don't really do that no yeah you go are they worried
about people being disinterested in the second or third game is that potentially it like if you got
a really bad team and you're playing a really good team and you know you're gonna get your ass
kicked three games in a row although if you have a really bad team you're probably gonna get your
ass kicked three games in a row a lot it doesn't matter who you play so i don't know what the
aversion to that might be i think there's a lot of like marketing to it and like so for the western
conference you can't do that because you only play them in their home building the one time
like you only go out to san jose once so there's no series to be played right you know so it can
only be done with your western or your eastern conference teams so say you're going to boston
or like new york rangers say you've got two on the schedule that uh that week i think you want
to spread out those matchups for the opportunity for people who are Leafs fans to come multiple
times in the year. So if you're a Toronto fan in New York, you're more likely to go to a game if
there's one in November and then again one in January as opposed to if they're both in November.
Got it.
So I think from a marketing standpoint, from a ticketing sales and how you're building your
schedule as a traveling entity in the NHL, coming back at different portions of the year makes sense.
One of the things that people say about the Western Conference is that when players sign there, they realize they're taking on a lot more travel.
Sure, that would lessen that burden, would it not?
Oh, totally.
And it would lessen the expense.
It would be way less expensive.
Yes, but is it more expensive?
It's more expensive to do it the way it is, but at the end of the day, are we making more on ticket sales and marketing dollars?
You know, like what's going to be the biggest driver of revenue for the league?
They know the answer, and my guess is yes.
I want to ask about that because I think, too, like ask people that might know because I got to think, too, like, you know, what if like I understand, like, listen, there are certain markets where a team comes to town and no one cares, right?
The Leafs don't have that issue as a Leaf fan.
You know, a lot of the original six franchises don't have that issue.
But there are some teams where it's like, hey, Columbus is in St. Louis two games in a row here.
That's weird.
And I get the east to west crossover.
over so if if you were saying in conference games you make them two to three game series or
something like that i don't see why that wouldn't work um and then you have to play some inter
conference games and those are one-offs but i i also look at it like taylor swift comes to town
and she plays six nights in toronto what she did last year they didn't have any i know it's taylor
swift but they had no problem selling those tickets about how often does taylor swift come
to toronto well once every few years once every like decade yeah instead she did toronto ottawa
montreal ottawa toronto ottawa montreal ottawa toronto she like she loves that plane all right
loves that plane right right yeah no i i think if you're the leafs like and once every 10 years you
go to the to play the kings you probably do it six times yeah but if you're doing it once or
kings are a bad example because there's western conversation the hurricanes right if you're going
there twice a year you probably want to spread it out because like somebody might not be available
in december to go see them but they might be available in april so okay i think that's that's
my theory on the mentality behind how the nba and the nhl work their schedule yeah it would be kind
to i don't know i i understand the logic but with the weird little covid bubble it made all these
teams that otherwise didn't really know each other kind of hate each other i like that it made
the the games better too because you're healthier if you're staying in that one location yep so if
you're you're going down to tampa and you're playing tampa two times in a row and then you're
sitting there a night and you gotta sleep in that same hotel and you're coming back for the next
game it's not you're playing you're sleeping you're getting on the team plane you're going
out to next location then you're playing there it's no we settled down in that second game in
that first game it's gonna be a lot comfier well and and we heard uh there was like i mean we would
know the cities that had true home ice advantage by how fun they were because you look at the
nashville's and the vegas's and stuff like that and it'd be like everybody why do they keep why
does nashville and vegas why do they keep winning at home it's because those are so much fun and the
guys are hung over right like you would probably have a little bit of that too maybe you pulled
him out of the city to keep people out of trouble i don't know i i don't know but i would love to
know the research behind that they must have looked into that yeah i must have i think if
you're rich there's you could get into trouble anywhere so i've heard through the grapevine that
that owners are pissed about the e-bug situation because it's it's basically uh in the new cba you
have to fly a goalie with you right there's no more emergency backups you're flying the goalie
there's no more david ayers situation so you have to fly the goalie you have to pay them a hundred
dollars you have to get over 100 500 you have to give them a per diem uh and the total cost to each
team is going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of a hundred thousand dollars so each so that's a
total on the league a new cost of 3.2 million dollars a year right and so and i remember the
person that told me this i was like they care about that and he's like you bet your ass they
care about that so i'm like because it's added a hundred thousand dollars to every team's budget
okay so if they care about that why don't they care about the insane cost of flying somebody around
in and out in the same day do you know what i'm saying i wish i could fart loud enough
to create a new universe i know it's it's insane but apparently they're not happy about that that's
an ownership gripe these are billionaires with a b yep and they're griping about one employee
behind the scenes oh get lost yeah the world's smallest violin well listen i know that's why
they haven't made it a public thing but i know that you know listen they didn't get to be
billionaires because they're well balanced oh my god or reasonable that's so ridiculous so i think
but i just think that's fascinating because you probably could make a huge argument for saving a
ton of money oh with the travel yeah sorry i thought you meant the e-bugs no with the travel
well you know why stop there just don't employ players just you sold the tv rights just yeah
air two and a half hours of ice just the ice the zamboni going around the flattest coldest
nicest ice in the world oh why steve why stop there why have ice that's very expensive that's
I was going to say, why have a Zamboni?
Just put a swimming pool in there.
Yeah, just have a swimming pool.
But you got to heat those.
Why stop there?
Let's all just die.
Let's all just die.
I was going to say, let's all sit home in silence.
But then you got to have a home.
Let's all just frigging die.
Which is what I'm sure all these billionaires
eventually want.
I love how we took
owners are a little miffed
they have to pay to fly an e-bug around to why don't we all just die?
It's keeping with the times, I think, you know, good question, though.
Really good question. Yeah. Yeah.
One thing I saw about the e-bug stuff is that it can be an employee of the team.
So you could I could see a situation where equipment managers who have like experience playing goaltender at a professional level,
but not in the nhl because i think there's an 80 game oh i was gonna say full circle the leafs
gonna have curtis mcelaney no that could not happen mark andre flurry joked that he could
be an e-bug now that can't happen but um i think that's way better if they could though
yeah you'd get some sketchy stuff if mark andre flurry could go into the game for you
it's not great money if money's terrible um so i can see a situation where guys employ
some equipment managers and that sort of stuff who are flying around with the team anyways i'm
trying to get around your solution about like the hundred thousand dollars cost if they're coming on
the road games they'll also be registered as the e-bug so then it doesn't actually cost you any
more money they'll be there anyway so right i can see that yeah you know what if you're like agm
played a cup of coffee in the echl or something you know so i can see that so wait 80 nhl games
is the maximum i believe that that it is i can check it again ah curtis sanford played too much
How many?
Not, uh, 144.
Ah, just over.
Just over.
Yeah.
Son of a gun.
Might Jonas Enroth be available?
Nah, he's probably over, too.
Yeah, you think so?
You need, who do you need?
So you can't be an NHL pensioner, is what you're telling me.
Because you have to play over 200 games to be a pensioner.
Yeah, I guess basically not.
I'm trying to think of a name.
Give me a name.
UC Runis.
Could UC Runis fill in?
Could Justin Pogge?
Oh, wow.
Who is still playing, I believe.
Yeah, probably could.
So it's 80 professional hockey games.
Oh, that's even worse.
Yeah, yeah.
It's even tighter.
So Greg Wyszynski had the rules here on the e-bug criteria.
Here's the NHL e-bug criteria under the new CBA.
Teams must submit one designated e-bug 48 hours before the start of the season.
40 hours before the start of the season.
I guess that's for the entire season.
You submit one guy.
During season, 24 hours before a game.
In order to be eligible to serve as a club's emergency goaltender replacement, an individual must not have played an NHL game under an NHL SPC standard player contract, have played in more than 80 professional hockey games, have played professional hockey in the prior three seasons,
have another current contractual obligation
that would preclude the ability to serve
as the club's emergency goaltender replacement
and be on the reserve list
or restricted free agent list of an NHL club.
So one game in the NHL, you can't do it.
Why are they committed to the goalie
must not be up to standard?
Yeah, they gotta be.
I don't understand that.
That's kind of stupid.
Yeah, like here's what you could do.
All you have to do is say, here's the max pay.
Yeah.
And you're gonna get paid,
you're gonna get paid like 50 grand to do this.
there's not going to be a lot of people who sign up for that but like so what yeah there will be
people and why wouldn't you want the e-bug to be good the point of taking the the guy off the
street out of it is because a it's kind of dangerous right these are nhl players they're
not messing around b the standard i in in a in theory although the david ayers game was a whole
different one uh the the standard would come down right the rate of play is bad you want to like
fans are paying to see professionals why wouldn't you want a professional i'm gonna be real annoying
about it what's the cutoff for professional is echl professional yes is sphl professional i don't
know what the rules are there southern pro hockey league i have no i don't know what they get like
i don't know are they are they pay him or that's professional ah but like ohl players are paid
like everybody knows that's that's that is amateur yeah see that i don't think that's
i think there's a very i don't think c is the answer your distinction there steven
what about c could a player from the are you seeing yet i guess i lost could a player from
the aberdeen links play for the leafs that is i believe tier three britain are they getting paid
to play hockey i don't not a lot i don't know if you have enough information to answer your own
question how little can you be paid where you get to go come on like okay do you make less than
500 bucks a week i think that would fall under come on like you're being paid but are you all
right no you're not this this sounds like the perfect job for a university goalie like this
is where which is what the ebooks mostly were yeah yeah here oh my god yeah um so okay yeah
if you're playing an nhl game you you can't be an e-bug which is kind of sad i think adam you're
right that because the the nfl had this problem a couple years ago in the playoffs where um the
49ers had two of their quarterbacks go down and you're only allowed to you can only they usually
only roster two quarterbacks so they're like we don't have a quarterback to play so now this season
you're allowed to have your practice squad quarterback your third qb on the sidelines in
an emergency situation so that we don't have a situation where a team doesn't have a fucking
quarterback and i think you should just have that in the nhl too where you can have a goalie who's
like your practice squad goalie but like he's a professional goalie yeah and he wants to hang
around the team if you want to give him a contract and elevate him to the roster maybe he's not even
good enough for your ahl team but like maybe he's the third ahl goalie but he sticks around with the
nhl club and in case of an emergency you can just put him on the ice which is what they do in the
playoffs yes yes they had it was actimov wasn't they could have everybody yeah because there's
no limit to the rosters right the black aces right and then if you need him he can just go
on the ice well and i don't i feel like that's how it should be in the nhl too i don't understand
why the nhl wouldn't take this opportunity because goaltending such a weird position
why wouldn't you take the opportunity to go yeah that the player actually has to be under contract
with your ahl or echl franchise and so if you have a guy like actimov who's going to be splitting
starts with dennis hildeby uh and some other goalie because you know and with the marlies
and most ahl teams there's like five goalies right uh why wouldn't you have them come on some
road trips learn a little bit at the nhl level and potentially get better i don't that part it's
like why don't we develop this person why stop there so you're not allowed to have played an
nhl game so would scott not is it scott foster uh the guy from the blackhawks who played a game
something foster justin is saying yes it's scott foster so he has the same name as the nba ref
who rigged the game yeah okay anyway so foster that's it foster i can like david airs and jet
alexander none of them can play jet alexander played one minute in the nhl as he played it is
it is scott foster yeah oh that's so weird yeah they have the same name that's funny that's yucky
your mic's up on uh on google it says scott foster it's got a picture of him playing
goaltender but his title says canadian accountant
that's fantastic yeah i didn't realize he was canadian okay yeah sarnia sarnia born all right
i like it um yeah let's keep going let's ask granular questions about ebugs no just employ
a third goaltender. Who cares what he's
done? What does it matter? I just don't understand.
Okay. Oh, he can't have played an NHL
game. Cool. Okay.
Why not a young... Or he's got to be
under the age of 25. I don't know.
Figure something out. Just
develop people. Why are we keeping them out?
He must have at least... Oh, we simply
couldn't develop more goaltenders.
750 hairs on
his head. We will count
them individually when he shows
up. I dare double retain.
That might make things fun. No!
I think the NFL's got it right with having a practice squad.
And here, goaltenders are so special and such a unique thing.
Like, have a practice squad goalie and fly them around.
Yeah.
And then you have them dressed for, well, not dressed, but like sitting there for games just in case.
Yeah.
And then we don't have ridiculous situations.
Or be a billionaire who shits himself with the power of a jet engine.
If you are an e-bug this year and you fit all that criteria, right?
You pay less than 80 games professionally, whatever.
then let's say
okay it's the Leafs
and we lose
wall installers
in the same game
please do not happen
that's a possibility
wallers
then he plays
is he now kicked off
the e-bugs
that's what I'm saying
Brooksie
that's what I'm saying
it must be
so you gotta have
a backup
to your backup e-bug
just in case
oh yeah
does playing
can he play two games
in a row
e-bug
lose you your qualifications
for being an e-bug
I would say no
okay
because that's not clear
but you certainly
can't do it
Maybe if I pulled up the CBA, there's some
language in there for that,
but that's what I'm guessing. I am guessing.
And you can't, that means you definitely can't do it the next
year. Right? Right.
Right. Do you get kicked off the list if you play in
a game? I don't know.
I'm just saying. Alright.
Right here in the GTA, there's a place
called Ajax. And nobody
lives there. Nobody likes it there.
There's a couple people. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Steve
lives there. Also is a new
registered charity called Progressive Life Center in
ajax and you got to think of it as a training facility uh for people who deal with and have
autism uh and one of the things that it really gets into is they do athletic skills life skills
work skills and building confidence a lot of times autism can leave people feeling isolated
uh and uh not having the confidence to move forward and that can be life circumstance that
can be how they were treated in school and that sort of thing but what's amazing about the
progressive life center is they have fitness programs personal training uh workforce training
and they have the plc cleaning crew that provides real job training in commercial cleaning that
would lead to paid employment for people who would otherwise have a difficult time finding
paid employment and as we know uh and everybody's gone through this uh part of part of building your
own confidence sometimes is having a career having something to work towards something i've i've
gotten to witness uh in my life is uh people are generally willing to help out kids uh but once
they become adults screw them right yeah uh so the they're i'm i'm happy to work with a charity
that's that's geared towards helping adults now on tuesday september 16th so that's next tuesday
uh they're going to host a uh a golf tournament 18 hole shotgun format at the wine dance golf club
in Uxbridge. You can sponsor
a hole for as little as $500,
register for $225, or
register a foursome for $900.

and all of a sudden gotcha i actually also suck um that's your fault yeah yeah who mentioned him
steve who met uh his father-in-law who's that what's that what's that guy's name uh vincent
and is he cool no that's what i thought sorry continue your point uh just brock is like
actively in litigation and we don't need this and i yuck boo gross i don't need it is there no one
else i'd love to have eric young on and be like eric you don't work for them oh dude there must
be other people that are good half of everything that happens in wrestling or has happened in
wrestling over the last like six seven eight years is is there no one else every time i see
the rock come back it's the same question i think that's finally done but you never know
what's that you see how much weight the rock has lost yeah like he's off the he's off the the
cycles i assume if the rock wanted to put back on weight to go back to wrestling he could do it in
a month with a lot of hgh yeah i'm not too worried about what he looks like on a whim he can change
that with uh magical science yeah there's i mean listen the magic of wrestling still very much
exists it's basically you gotta as a wrestling fan you gotta do a lot of it's just too hard to
get through a month without going and this i feel like they got to open it up for some younger
some because there's a lot of young fans of wrestling it's like a bird fought this within
the last few months i can't believe he can still walk man i can't believe any of his opponents can
either yeah yeah he he was unsafe when he was young yeah oh it's brutal yeah okay that's that's
their thing they always just never let the guys go they're always gonna come back in some capacity
it's hard to find stars i get that it is hard but there is a star system there and they can build
some of these people up and brock lesnar was a big star yeah but like you can you can build other
stars can't you or maybe are the netflix ratings sagging like are they are they struggling now that
they're on netflix they can't be i don't know justin two questions um one how is japanese
wrestling going uh how's that scene justin two what do you think about this issue uh japanese
wrestling is always good so that's never that's never changed and uh yeah i mean i think that
with wwe there's so many properties now you've got the you know you've got raw you've got still
called smackdown you've got i they're nxt i'm i want to say they own tna now or something like
that like it's just there's so many different brands and so many different shows that there's
so many different wrestlers now but it's like you would think again that you would make a star out
of some of them but it's like when you get to the main main main roster it's just like people just
want to see who they saw 20 years ago and it it gets boring it gets to me it gets boring but it's
uh yeah not as big of a fan of uh wwe is uh maybe some other oh new york yeah not a big fan of
connecticut oh connecticut the fed the new york yeah exactly yeah no i look at like who's the last
like truly big superstar they develop is probably cody rhodes right like the latest roman roman is
probably the audience rejected him for a long cody was cody was like like he was stardust and then he
went to japan and he became big there as part of bullet club and then he came over to aw and it was
only after he blew up there that wd was like okay you want to come back yeah and they he forced their
hand with that by getting so big on his own and leaving and all that but i look at him and i say
okay you got all of this out of cody rhodes but he's still a legacy brand that's not a new name
at all that is a thing that existed we know rhodes like we know that family does romeo yeah
like it's it's they they're so few and far between of actually somebody who's been developed from the
pure wrestling standpoint if he doesn't have a name attached to him because i don't give
cody that entire credit like all of it's obviously him but he's still nepotism in there like i know
a lot of people he was i was sort of getting out of wrestling a little bit when he was blowing up
but part of me is like we're doing the john cena farewell tour eh like i don't know what do you
Still? Still.
He's still going.
And he's fighting Logan Paul.
There's nothing you can do.
There's not a flippy-dippy trick they could do
that would make me mark out for John Cena and Logan Paul.
No?
My heart rate would not elevate in the slightest.
I wouldn't change my face.
I don't even sort of care.
like i don't know it's yeah and then brock comes back i'm like oh fuck yeah all right you know
what's gonna be a weird uh interesting matchup of human beings but the mike tyson floyd mayweather
what are we doing oh boy what are we i saw that i was like what i i just kids save your money okay
serious question is a guy who's never watched this i've never watched any of those boxing
matches and i know jesse's jesse you make a really good point every time you say hey you should
because it's a cultural moment i love an event yeah yeah they're not actually like hitting each
other are they these two guys no this is it's all a show okay yeah it was a show with paul and
and tyson and it's gonna be a show again okay it's just yeah okay they're yeah yeah and that's
okay there's nothing wrong with that putting on a show it's it's right it's like the same formula
for wwe except for boxing allegedly yeah and just to be clear i'm gonna skip this one this is this
isn't something i'm gonna tune in even for a second to watch i don't care these days you just
see so much like the first time i saw the graphic of tyson mayweather i'm like okay so that's fake
and then you find out it's not and you're more disappointed yes yeah yeah yeah you're gonna
watch this aren't you no i just said you're not oh okay you're not clear i'm gonna skip it
sorry no i wasn't i was trying i was trying to pull something up on it see no one fucking cares
he doesn't even care he's on the show uh no that's an immediate skip i don't need to see these two
geriatric people old men do their dance in the ring that's a weird one yeah okay that one made
me uncomfortable all right uh last question here this is from mcleafs in 2026 they said
You can tell where this is going.
They said, can Jesse stop saying that McDavid not having a contract
shouldn't be a daily topic around media?
Sorry, there's a lot of positives and negatives there.
Can Jesse stop saying that McDavid not having a contract
shouldn't be a daily topic?
I don't know what they're claiming you're saying.
What he's saying is he wants it to be McDavid not having a contract
should be a topic in daily media.
You're saying it should be.
No, I'm saying it shouldn't.
We shouldn't hammer it in every single day.
And they have some examples.
So I'll start from the beginning.
Can Jesse stop saying that make David not having a contract shouldn't be a daily topic?
He uses Marner and Stamkos as examples.
Neither of them were ever or will ever be the best player on the planet.
It's not the same.
This is LeBron in 2010, not Marner.
It's potentially LeBron in 2010, but it isn't because we're not there yet.
And I don't think, listen, man, here's the deal.
You can talk about it and break it down and dissect every sentence.
And by the way, I have seen this weekend, Oilers fans turning on McDavid for not signing yet.
Which is nuts.
Just a couple.
Just a couple.
I'm not saying it's the fan base.
You can find fans doing anything.
But it's notable.
You can find anyone.
Because there is a little bit of like, hey, man, can you fucking sign it?
Shut up and let's go win a cup.
But Jesse, is it fair to say?
that it isn't every day interesting, right?
Like it's interesting in pieces
and we did a whole week on it last week,
but it's not like, okay, what do we say now?
He's done two interviews.
He did a press scrum last week.
All right, all right.
Unless Jud Moldaver does a one-hour interview
on the 100% Hockey Podcast,
I don't know what else there is to say right now.
That'd be crazy if an agent did that.
This is going to be so crazy if an agent did that.
Because maybe I have it wrong.
Maybe there is enough McDavid to wherever interest that you could do it daily.
But I don't know if that's the way you want to go with the content.
We could do daily, should McDavid sign with the Leafs?
And then the Habs.
And then the Sharks.
And then the Lightning.
We could do that every single day.
30 days of McDavid.
I don't know.
If there is like enough interest, like from people like Mick Leafs in 2026, where we could
I think there is.
He made his whole.
Then maybe I'm wrong.
Then maybe I'm wrong.
One thing that is very annoying, and this applies to McDavid and it applies to Marner,
is McDavid will speak on something and he'll have a quote and it'll be new words from the
last time.
And then Jeff Jackson, the president of the Oilers, will say something about it and there
will be new words.
And then people go, oh, why is everyone talking about the new words
that the best player on earth and the team president said?
What?
Why is everyone talking about Marner?
Because his agent and the guy himself spoke.
Real easy question to answer.
Or my favorite one is, can you guys stop asking about this?
What do you mean, can you stop asking McDavid about his?
What are you talking about?
like what's your job oh what's your job oh leave him alone he's he's frat connor mcdavid i'm gonna
go to h&r block and say can you guys stop accounting connor what's wrong with you is
not some fragile glass sculpture here he'll be fine yes uh if he uh if he doesn't want to answer
questions about it anymore and he said in the interviews both of them i realize i'm gonna have
to answer questions about this he said it i want the team focus but i realize that there's some
questions that are going to be associated with this the the path is to cry and shit the thought
is that like the the people who who jump in and are like don't worry i'll save this athlete from
from their own contract like what are we talking about yeah they're contractually obligated to talk
to the media um i i don't think you have to defend them from talking to the media why would you ask
him about they are being paid 10 million dollars plus a season to answer a couple questions for
a minute in the scrum. By the end of his
career, he's going to make like a quarter
billion dollars American.
You don't need to give it all away
if you stop asking him that. But you know what's
missing from his life? You.
Hey, Jess.
You and your defense. Jess, what do you think
when you go to Leafs camp and they
scrum with
Anthony Stoller's for the first time, right? Okay.
And that's where everybody's mic is in front of his face.
What do you think the first or second question is going
to be? His contract situation.
Right. And the other question is going to be his health.
Is the other question
how you feel
after after last year
and all that?
Yeah.
First or second
is going to be health.
The other first or second
is going to be contract.
No.
Why?
Because that's the most
important thing going on
with the narrative
around Anthony.
Do you think Anthony
Stoller's could
is he going to survive that?
Yes, he will.
No, no.
Just stick to hockey.
What's your favorite
kind of puck to stop?
Black one.
Wrist shot.
What is what is the most
fun kind of save to make?
Is it blocker glove
or something else.
And Steve, can you ask that several different times
over the following weeks too?
Out of low
glove and blocker,
which one do you enjoy the most?
Are you getting wacky?
You're like, hey, do you wish the ice was a different
color?
Like the NBA. Your name is
Anthony. Did your parents
have any other names picked out?
oh shit i didn't mean to hit us i hit him in the teeth and their fake teeth they can crack
i'm sorry i'm trying to do the bill hater thing all right what's the haps yeah but that's the
point so where do you where do you where are we landing on this well listen unless there's so
here's the thing it isn't it isn't interesting every day no it's a story every day not interesting
to literally today today it's not that interesting uh if it's a month from now we're like hey we
We haven't heard anything about that Connor McDavid thing,
and they're already playing games.
That's kind of interesting.
Do we have any updates on that?
But, like, trust me, these players will be okay.
I know Mark Masters is scary, but he'll—
Mark Masters!
Mark Masters and that big evil media core of the Toronto Maple Leafs,
which includes evil Jesse Blake.
Yes.
I think that he'll be fine.
He'll just say, no update on that one.
Okay.
but is it a story that what do you want me to say now coming back to well what what could we say now
like that this is the thing when you're putting a show together and i don't fault people for not
knowing this uh the my question is always there's news stories that pop up and i'm like okay so what
though yes this happened right but what are we going to do with this where's the conversation
so we talked the mcdavid thing a lot last week and we had some great pieces in there from david
staples and and uh from ryan rashog and from mark specter and we had some toronto opinions we had
uh chris johnson talking about it on the cj show and mcdavid talked several times yes
what else is there to say right now at this very what if oh but it could
yo man straight up like we don't have rights to hockey games so we can't really force people to
watch our product our job is to be as interesting as possible i can't give you something today
about conor mcdavid that's more interesting than what we had last week or that changes the story
in any way also do you do yourself a favor every time you see a mcdavid clip okay it's so boring
it's the most boring piece of shit ever it's a pretty good interview though yeah oh yeah no no
i'm not calling him boring i'm just saying the news is boring boring so boring and i hate this
boring but go and look at the view count go and look at the comments is yours one of them
that's why it's still in your algo there buddy this i've been dealing with this ever since he
was a rookie at sports net because sports net would do so many videos it was basically mcdavid
watch when he was a rookie and the comments were almost exclusively who gives a shit
and the view counter would indicate everyone we who gives a shit everyone we went with that all
spring every single time there was a marner video posted it was the number one thing we did and then
the number one comment is no one cares two things cannot be true you'll be blown away by this people
really care people really care and your comment isn't indicative of the 99 percent of people who
just watched it and then didn't leave the comment that no one cares and by commenting you've proven
you care yes that's a proof that's proof positive if you commented on this you care enough to
comment which means you care also it being number one proves that everybody cares so i hope that
answers mcleaf's question because i wasn't taking shots at mcleaf there i was just saying i just
don't think there's anything interesting today to add to that story to build on what we've already
done is that fair sure but there could be wednesday oh but that's listen unless the media
ignore or sorry not ignore it take seriously connor mcdavid's feelings about talking about
the contract that he hasn't signed and never ask him about it again and then july 1st we haven't
heard a single thing and then he goes here's what i've done jesse when's the show gonna be posted
It's afternoon at like 5.
He's signing today.
He's signing at 4.30.
Damn it.
All right.
So coming this week, top five destinations for Connor McDavid.
Let's do it.
Why not?
That's great.
People are asking for it.
You know what?
We'll deliver.
You know what?
Next show, I want you guys to come up with your top five.
Now we're just doing this.
No, we're doing this now.
And I want you guys to give reasons why.
Okay?
We're doing this.
And then we're making three clickbaity videos.
Adam's, Steve's, and Jesse's.
And then we'll put them out.
and we're going to slow them down to 0.5 speed
to get them to a certain length.
To get them to eight minutes, I think?
Yeah.
It's eight minutes.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah.
We're going to do that TikTok thing
where we punctuate everything
by slowing it down at the end of the sentence.
Right.
Is that why people do that?
I don't know.
I thought that was for comedic effect.
It's both.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
