the steve dangle podcast with your host steve dangle adam wild and jesse blake
let's go a lot of stuff happened this morning before the show which only makes me cringe
because what will happen after i know i'm concerned mcdavid trade yeah mcdavid today's
the day my money's on mctoronto i call it no not to toronto i call extension in toronto i've
information on the extension to new jersey for dougie hamilton yeah and no no no jesse you forgot
the cornerstone of every shitty trade proposal and a second ah yes it's got to be and a second
first sounds ridiculous and a second uh i want to mention that our next live show is at the roundhouse
october 18th our triumphant return we've had some really great times at the roundhouse even our
company party was held there uh it's so much fun also like huge arcade and everything but we're
going to be doing a in the rec room so yeah the roundhouse rec room is that what i was like did
they changed their name yeah well it's the rec room at the roundhouse sorry i the rec room at
the roundhouse apologies for anybody who might be confused that's fair jesse related topic jesse
do details matter nah well listen i got the date right that's the guy you did listen can we take
steps here towards perfection that's true we can't just start at 10 out of 10 all right all right
anyway we'd love to see you there um for whatever it is be a perfect we'd love to see you there
We're going to have a show.
We'll tell you where it is eventually,
and we'll tell you what date too.
It's October 18th.
Jesse, what's that?
First 50 people to buy tickets.
I don't know if we've crossed 50 actually,
but if you were one of the first 50 to buy tickets
since we announced this,
you'll get one of these SDP mini sticks at the door.
You can see it.
If you're listening,
envision what an incredible SDP mini stick would look like.
How many goals you'll score against your children?
Think about how many dekes you'll have against your children.
How embarrassed they'll be.
you almost killed the microphone right now wow i uh i had to get three of those because i brought
i brought one home and my children began fighting over it immediately and so they each get one and
daddy wants one also those are the joys of having multiple children it's so good oh and isla is in
the um just experiment with objects phase and the way she experiments with objects is by hitting her
father in the head with them so i was just lying on the floor and she's she's just like standing
above me like quietly calmly everything's fine and then whack like she's just right in the forehead
would be very proud yes yeah a hundred percent well and isla is gonna be i think if isla gets
up to her height it would be fortunate yes well i don't think she will gonna be a small kid oh yeah
oh yeah that's that's uh that's our girl um because she's very short and has a big head
mrs dangle uh is not the tallest person alive five zero point five she might be the shortest
i don't know i don't know if her height starts with a five the dangle family
she says it's dealing or a high floor she says oh no low floor low low to the floor
hey steve what are you you're five five last i checked five ten and a half really i would like
to say 5 11 i won't sneak it in there 5 10 i am your doctor wouldn't give you the uh 11 no which
was rude i had a doctor once tell me i was six feet tall and nobody believed that person was
but it was at the hospital where it was i was doing a lungs test because i'm trying to get
shot so i don't have to be allergic to my cat anymore and uh and and i had to do and i'm an
asthmatic so they're like we're worried about your asthma whatever and and my lungs are fine
and then they he's like hey man you're six feet tall i was like that was the one of the greatest
days of my life i'm not when was the doctor told me this is a year and a half ago i still think
about it oh i was gonna say was this when you were on whatever dating app you were no no no no i was
i uh i should have put on the dating app uh sorry single dad that's that's 50 of the people gone
and then under under five under six feet tall that's another here's a picture of me in my
ferrari bed my doctor must have been giving you an inch right what's that he must have been giving
you an inch the doctor well you know what you've never been six foot in your life i'm 5 11 i am
squarely 5 11 and unfortunately that's where it stopped but yes he gave me an inch and i
appreciate that adam do you remember when you thought i was taller than you uh i don't remember
that i don't remember much you know that and i go why do you go yeah you're taller than me and i go
why why do you think that and you're like because when i when we're face to face i look up at the
top of your head and then we paused for a second and i went adam you're an idiot i don't remember
that your eyes are not at the top of your head i have to be honest with you i don't think that
that even happened because i can't remember that one million percent happened probably never
happened definitely happened i want to uh i just want to quickly say that uh you know we had the
luke hughes extension happened right before the show yes corral caprizoff signs the richest
contract ever how does that affect everyone including the leafs oh my god we'll talk about
that but first the big news and i don't think no i don't know if steve knows i i do edmonton got
their man yeah one of the leftovers from uh my time at sportsnet is for some reason i get all
the oilers email still oh okay great well uh connor ingram is an oiler now initially it looked
like connor ingram was going with no retention which was what the initial reports were but now
well i wouldn't make any sense there well exactly and people were like that's so oilers lol
but uh actually what's happened is that he is now passed through waiver so if the oilers had claimed
him not only do they have the full salary to take care of but they also got to try to send him down
and put him on waivers again,
which, I mean, I think they'd probably be able to do,
but even so, it's a risk you don't want to take.
What the Oilers are getting now is a contract at 1.15.
So I believe Utah is retaining something like 700 or 800 grand,
and they can send him right to Bakersfield,
and they don't have to worry about that.
And they would incur no cap hit.
Yes, exactly.
So this is a guy who, you know,
after being in the substance program a couple of times,
gets to get his game back on track in Bakersfield,
And what a prime opportunity in Edmonton for him
because he's had some flashes of brilliance
in his time in the NHL.
And that's the thing with Conor Ingram.
You're like, it's there.
We know it's there.
We've seen it.
Yes.
And we just need to see it consistently.
And so Bakersfield is where he's going to start
and we'll see what happens.
Yes, Jesse.
Question from the audience.
Why are the Mammoth giving up or retaining salary
if they're not getting anything in return
because they're trying to do right by the player
in this instance
because he has asked for a change of scenery.
They also free up 1.15 million
for a player they were not going to use.
Okay.
And they had agreed not to use.
I would have just asked for anything
because future considerations
is what they are getting in return.
We all know that usually amounts to nothing.
It might be something.
It might be something down the line
where they get some sort of something down the line but a lot of the times it's just like okay
that's been enough we'll wipe it away i don't know in the transaction for them i would have
been like hey give me a sixth it well and it could be that like it could who knows this could
be like the most complicated future considerations ever yeah where if he plays five games it's a
seventh if he plays 15 games it's a six it could be all that like in nhl history future considerations
has been a first um i i discovered that uh trade tree was that the lindros trade tree it it ended
up that's how calgary or colorado got robin regier or something like that it's a first round pick in
future considerations anyway i pass any judgment on something that isn't solved yet i am well aware
of that that's fine and listen you can only go with what you know yeah yeah and do you think
any insider cares enough to dig deep on the uh future considerations on this one they should
yeah they should listen your audience if i'm an insider i'm like it's okay you can have that one
your audience is nerds yeah your audience is nerds yeah your audience is people who would
care about that sort of thing i i feel like our comment section is full of man who cares about
that written by someone who deeply bitterly cares about that and that's because we are alike you and
eye more so than you would like to admit in your deepest darkest moments conor ingram's ceiling
and this is something we've talked about with the oilers before because everyone's
skinner skinner skinner to me skinner is fine if used in the right role skinner's ceiling
is high we've seen it pickards is not i think pickard ceiling is adequate
stopgap which is what he's been in the last two playoffs which is what he's been but when i watch
him in net i'm like that's that's the same cow that i saw in toronto and in colorado that's who
he is and like he's at an age where i'm like i don't think he's getting much better it's great
that he's still in the show it's an unreal story uh connor ingram has the potential to be a smash
yeah well his best season was with the coyotes in 23 24 50 games he played not long ago 23 and 21
on that dog shit coyotes team uh 907 save percentage and the season before he played
27 games 907 listen if you can get 20 games in a 907 out of this guy on the oilers this year
uh you get a 15 probably win the division that's great but between skinner if he plays all right
and ingram obviously playing in a 907 and pickard why wouldn't you when he was why wouldn't you win
the division yeah yeah well and pick what's confusing to me is like when do you make that
transition if ever yeah because it sounds my assumption is pickard starts with the team
yes no question i think they'll give conor ingram like a few months wouldn't you like this is a guy
yeah listen well it kind of depends how the both of them do have a short leash on like those goalies
like they're struggling three of them now you have somebody in there to give a shot to i guess
ingram could be starting in the stanley cup final he didn't you know i don't think he was i'm not
sure if he was participating in utah training camp i believe he was staying home that's why i think
it might be a few weeks before you know i mean get him up to speed if there if i think if pickard
has a really slow start and looks bad in the games where he has to come in i think right there you
have your solution and here's another shot go ahead conoring him let's see what you got and
you got to play him like you got to give i think you need to give pickard the opportunity to win
or lose that job like you can bury pickard with no penalty although if you put him through waivers
i think he gets claimed yeah i don't think that's somebody who lasts yeah whereas uh ingram you
don't have to worry about that he's already passed through yeah so yeah it's it's good um and listen
it cost edmonton nothing and that's always great we love we love a cost-free deal uh and obviously
when somebody's been through the uh that program you wish them well too so what a great opportunity
we could be talking about connor ingram in the stanley cup final this year he's had a wild career
uh i want to say he was a late draft pick of the lightning we the first time we covered connor
ingram was a covet episode so you can be forgiven for forgetting this but there was a match fixing
scandal in in sweden for a game where he was the goalie oh i don't remember that i'm pretty sure
yeah it was like in the all svenskan i i think oh god what was the name of the team i think it
started with a b um uh but that was the first i remember really hearing a story about him other
then oh the lightning got this guy and he might be good and i was like great happy for you uh and
then he ends up where he ends up he does well there's some bumps in the road and now all of a
sudden he's on a team who's been to back-to-back cup finals steve was not a bad place to end up
steve was advocating for him to play in the playoffs back when we were still doing this
show in my in my basement um remember i think it was uh it was either pecorine or uc saros was
injured and he did get into four games in that nashville oh yes and what's interesting about his
good well he lost i didn't win a game but he had a 364 goals against average which is high but his
save percentage was a 913 so they just got absolutely shelled those two things don't even
sort of match isn't that nuts does do you have the or no that was his hockey db page i'd love to know
how many shots he faced in four games yeah i don't have that to somehow throw up a 913 and a
three and a half goals against average yeah yeah that was that was the year where uh they said it
was a waste of eight days or whatever to play the avalanche right yes yes it was and listen it was
he was the only redeeming part he also won the bill masterton in 23 24 so this is the numbers
for you there you go so sorry jesse's got oh my god 49 saves in one of those uh the game one he
starts against colorado uh two goals against 30 saves 32 shots so he faced 32 shots in relief
yeah uh game two he goes in they lose 2-1 in ot and in that game he stops 49 of 51 shots
wow crazy and then the next game is blown up uh on the may 5th game there that one one and then
they lose two one in overtime we titled that episode that day um i was right about conor
ingram and then on the on the may 8th i think the next night we would have done an episode
we titled that one i was wrong about conor how the media shifts because uh he allowed six goals
that game they lost seven to three typical toronto we're a fickle bunch typical yeah so yeah if you
just google those episodes you'll see the titles back to back that week from the may 5th to the
may 8th episodes or may 6th to the maid your goalie allowed 14 goals in four games and was
by far your best player 147 shots again over four games that's so that's not all right that's not
and one of those games he didn't even play the first no it was 100 here can you go back
at him it was 147 saves oh 161 shots man they were not great no they were not 13 not bad
really good he gives the oilers that uh we're having a fun conversation this spring that
colorado team was kind of really good yeah and that nashville team was kind of not right they
were just there yeah i mean that's been the last couple they have they rode renee that yeah two
season right if i remember correctly and then they didn't have him yeah because he was hurt
anyway yeah great stuff i uh i want to go and i was gonna when i set up the show this morning i
was gonna work us um backwards so we're not workers backs workers forwards and what i mean
by that is i want caril first and then luke hughes so that's what we're gonna do the thrill uh because
i think one has something to do with the other and i think it's an important sort of benchmark
because Kirill Kaprizov just changed the NHL.
There were plenty of hot takes flying yesterday.
I had one.
I'm sure there'll be plenty of hot takes
flying on this episode,
but Kirill Kaprizov signs the richest deal
in NHL history, $17 million a year for eight years.
That means $138 million.
And I mean, I think...
$136 million.
I think that in this...
Oh, man.
Yeah.
Again, we're working our way.
It's easy to remember
because he was picked 135th increase at one oh my god oh wow that's like that's like when michael
scott's trying to remember uh phrases he's like my friend pat took a turn to remember the word
pattern why are you taking this long walk around to remember what it helps me remember uh andrew
raycroft uh uh retweeted him and said damn i was also drafted on 135th which i thought was funny
hey listen he's got a sense of humor he might hate Toronto and I don't blame him necessarily
I also don't um but uh but yeah anyway 17 million eight years and obviously a lot of bonuses and
stuff and this is one of the last contracts you're going to see that's eight years long
you know we saw the ranting one we saw the murder one we've now seen the caprizoff one
and I keep asking the question with Kirill I'm not going to ask that question I think you take
the money but i asked the question about miko i asked the question about mitch and you know i
remember when we were kind of in that thing in that weird window in june where we kind of knew
he was leaving we just didn't know exactly where and exactly for how much yes and i was talking to
somebody connected and i was like listen like i don't understand why he would do anything more
than four years because this cap is about to explode why would you do that now what we understand
is that vegas said if you want to come here these are the terms and he wanted to go there so bad
that that was the terms he was willing to accept which is the the fruits of you know being a really
good team for a long time 100 you get to and no tax date to that that too um i mean you got the
either but you know with carill i don't feel like i don't feel like he's going to be robbed of any
money i look at ranton and i look at uh marner and i go you guys for sure could have made more
money and you probably and where's dallas tax free yes but i would look at i would look at those two
guys and say listen you know i know that the teams that acquired you wanted you on eight
your contracts and stuff like that but you probably had the leverage to back them down
off of that like are you telling me vegas wouldn't have done marner are you telling
me dallas wouldn't have done rantanen i think uh in those two cases it's guys looking for peace
marner very loudly and noisily was like i want to get this over with and after last season i
think you can forgive me corinne and for for wanting a little stability yeah um even if you
know he has to wear a little egg on his face because he was asking for uh according to reports
a lot more than that right he was asking in in the leon category well no that was the ask but
they were what what colorado said that somebody got mad at me yesterday because i said the colorado
avalanche should have just signed rantanen apparently 12-5 was the deal so he had started
at 14 oh there it is but he but of course he did and colorado probably started at 10 and you meet
in the middle somewhere and i think you look at so you look at where we were at in january or
february of this year yeah and colorado paying him 12 and a half million it's interesting joe
was like we just simply could not do that and i'm looking at miko ranton and even miko ranton
at 13 if the 12 and a half wasn't going to get it done which i believe was the drop dead number
for miko renton okay even at 13 million would you rather pay miko 13 or marty niches 10 or 11
i got a better one and let's get controversial here you are starting a brand new team
and you get to pluck players from uh any team arizona coyote sorry yeah yeah yeah you you get
to pluck players from any team but you're given the option it needs to be one of these two guys
okay kill my car carol kaprizov you can only pick one and if you lose the game you die kale kale
nearly everyone in hockey i think picks kale kaprizov's nuts kaprizov is truly elite and i
think a lot of people aren't by the reaction that i saw yesterday necessarily hip to how elite he is
Well, people can be forgiven for not watching every wild game.
Yeah, that's okay.
He does drive that bus.
Yes, yes.
Drew, was it Drew who posted the Lamborghini?
No, it's a Bugatti.
It's a Bugatti outside of a trailer.
Yeah.
Like, that's how the Minnesota Wild build teams.
Like, yeah, lol, I get it.
But the Avalanche don't do ranting because
the reason I asked the Kel McCarr question,
he's gonna get more oh yeah if he wants first of all automatically nathan mckinnon one of the
best contracts in the nhl he's been robbed twice nathan mckinnon he keeps robbing himself
12.6 is a discount yeah he was the highest paid player in the league a couple years about three
seconds yeah mccarr can ask for and be justified in asking for more than kiril kaprizov who just
signed for 17 million dollars i think this is part of the problem and there's a few gms that
are cursing bill garen this morning carol kaprizov is elite carol kaprizov is top 10
carol kaprizov might be top five he ain't top one he's not top two either i wouldn't say he's top
three mcdavid is fully justified in asking for more than this i think macar is fully justified
in asking for more than this matthews has a couple years left i'm trying to think of like
recent heart winners and stuff dry sidle has already just started right so who's left
well artemi panarin's left jack eichel's left i mean they're not maybe they're not top 10 but
their top 15 i think those two are in a conversation together they're not in a conversation with those
guys right they're like mid-tier so is your point here that when you have a top 10 player you just
kind of have to sign the check no my point is uh kaprizov signing for the richest contract in nhl
history is going to give birth to the next two or three richest contracts in nhl history he's
if his contract started today he'd be the highest paid player in the nhl by three million dollars
and he might not begin next year probably won't begin next year as the highest paid player in
hockey jesse your reaction instantly and now that you've had a night to think about it with
corral has it changed at all where you're like oh that's great and then it was like oh that's
terrible some people were oh that's terrible and this morning they're waking up and going
you know it's not that bad the minnesota wild and craig leopold had no choice but to get this done
and tell leopold did a an interview in the athletic where he talked about how the deal
was getting done and everything and about three weeks ago they came to him with the 16 number
and then they had raised it up to 17 and they always knew like 17 is going to be the number
and for them as an organization from uh if this exists in a vacuum and i'm on gm mode and nhl 26
and i actually bought the game i wouldn't pay a winger who's had this history injury history
who's not top one who's not probably top three maybe like we're pushing top five even top five
forward top five forward okay but now we're doing qualifiers i wouldn't pay that person 17 million
dollars to make them the highest paid player in the league here before i will sorry you finish
your point and then i want to explain how freaking good this guy is sure but like i wouldn't dedicate
that cap space and that money to this individual player i think there's better ways to build your
team i think there's better ways to allocate this cap money but we don't live in a world where
you can just gm like there aren't people and an entire billion dollar team involved for craig
leopold and an owner who's emotional this player means is worth that 17 million dollars and
everything he brings to the table you have your superstar on your team locked up forever he is
very good and steve's gonna go into the numbers on how good he actually is but it also means you're
getting all of the jersey sales you're getting the picture outside of the arena you're getting
the player who's been there for the entirety of his career and you're not disappointing your fan
base and him walking out the door or you're trading him for something else how many season
seats get canceled if he leaves it feels the same as the blue jays writing a half billion dollar
check to vladimir guerrero yeah even if on the surface level he's not worth that money in terms
of real money allocation to what a baseball skills player skills are caprizoff just like
vlade is worth that to the organization as a whole so it i can't i struggle to criticize the deal
when it's the only option they had you can't just go out as they keep talking about the leaders you
just go replace murder like you can't replace caprizov you really can't and and i agree with
you jess i think uh if you were to be like hey is this player worth it to me it's not about
if a star player is worth a million more or a million less.
When you talk about a Matthew Nise,
I'll give you a Matthew Nise,
or a Matt Boldy, or a Jared Spurgeon,
or I'm just trying to give you guys on the wild, right?
Like, you know, yeah, you can hammer them
about what the value is, whatever.
You talk about the top 10 guys,
you call them and you go,
here's what we think, what do you want?
Because ultimately, that is irreplaceable.
You can't find it anywhere else.
And Steve, I guess you're going to go into.
And I want to read a quote before you do that.
I just want to read a quote from the horse's mouth.
The guy who's going to be writing this 136.
I thought Adam said it was 30.
Yeah, he's dumb.
It's at the round.
Craig Leopold said in The Athletic, I honestly never thought it would go to this number.
But the cap keeps going up and up.
In the next couple of years, it's going to be rising.
And while I didn't think it would it would be going to the places that appears to be going, whether it's 16 or 17, in the big scheme of things, we just had to get him signed and we really had to do it for eight years.
That's what we wanted.
So no matter what the number is, they had to do it.
Thank you for highlighting that quote, Jesse.
You might be the first person to talk about this deal that I think actually truly gets it.
I don't think you mentioned Bill Guerin once.
no this has nothing to do with bill bill garen walked in and said okay craig how much can i give
to him guys like whatever he wants and then they're like okay go do that bill garen is not
making 136 million dollar decisions this is the easiest contract he's ever negotiated yeah i had
to negotiate it yeah the owner did yes this is a this is a deal between player and agent and owner
yes um it has nothing i mean what's the gm supposed to do grind him as hard as he can
and it obviously like forget baron caving that quote reads as the owner caving well let me i
never thought it would get not even not even caving just understanding that whatever caprizov
wants is what i have to pay and he knew that from the start and i think he's a good owner i think
craig leopold's one of the good ones yeah he's in the league in terms of caring about the fan base
and the franchise and the team oh he'll spend money he knew what he had to do i want to say
this craig leopold by the way also used to own uh the nashville predators but um he is he's an
interesting guy um and one of the things that i find interesting is if you if you google his name
and his net worth super yacht fan is the first place that comes up super yacht fan because
there's super yachts everywhere craig's got one of them and so they actually have a picture of
craig's super yacht if we do ever do nhl owner watch uh we can uh we can bring it up but craig
craig is worth 3.6 billion dollars okay the initial offer if reports are to be believed and
the reports are legit uh the initial offer was 16 million dollars a year 128 he says it yeah
he says it here so um all bill garen really had to do was go can you cough up another eight million
yes what is eight million over eight years to somebody that's worth 3.6 billion dollars
i mean it's gonna make it's gonna does this make garen's job harder yes it will make no
difference in his life no every dollar that kaprizov signs makes his life harder that is a
fact but he does get caprizo yeah that's caprizo yeah so what do you have steve so here's why he's
sorry i got something else i don't know i'm kidding here's why he is truly elite since the
2021-22 season which is caprizo's entire career excluding his rookie year caprizo is tied for
fifth in points per game that's 1.27 with austin matthews only players above him are connor mcdavid
1.67 freak alien nikita kucherov who makes 9.5 gag me with a spoon nathan mckinnon 1.53
12.6 million and leon dry sidle 1.44 points per game just signed for 14 million over the past
two seasons isolated kaprizov is sixth in points per game only behind kucherov mcdavid mckinnon
Dreisaitl and add David Pasternak to that his deal is looking better and better by the way
might want to surround him with some guys Kaprizov over the last two seasons is third in time on ice
per game among forwards behind only McKinnon and Rantanen and during their time on the ice
most of it was spent together you know whenever you hear no disrespect to the player I'm about
to mention but whenever you hear about kaprizov's best moments it's usually matt zuccarello who is
great and maybe underrated but has never been close to the tier that those guys are in and
kaprizov is tied for second in goals per game with leon dry sidle only behind austin matthews
also over the last two seasons eighth in shots per game that's elite you know i did put the
caveat for forward um and i i feel like forward is important because kale mccarr's just such a
alien freak that the idea bless canucks fans and what they're about to do to my comments
and bless uh uh quinn hughes who is an unbelievable what are you about to say
the defense the best defenseman conversation is one person stop it it's one person it's
kyle mccarr everyone knock it off it's kyle mccarr it's also kyle mccarr but furthermore it's kyle
mccarr and quinn hughes quinn hughes could be number two but kyle mccarr is number one one and
also one um but after that uh for forwards there's not many other players you would consider
giving this money to i just had to check something because i believe in the 23 24 season
uh the writers voted that quinn hughes was the best defenseman in the uh national hockey league
cool uh did he also win the damn that's crazy award the next season when kale mccarr wanted
i don't know for the second time it's just there's conversations to be had here
yeah i love that eric carl that eric carlson norris is just stop it we don't talk about that
oh no we're not gonna give connor mcdavid the heart trophy because taylor hall made the playoffs
but eric carlson on the sharks let's let's give him that they really should have invented the
pew pew award like for defensemen who just have never seen their own blue line and put up a hundred
points on they allowed him they allowed him to just go out there and play strictly offense so
they could pump up his his counting stats yeah eventually trade him and it got him in norris
trophy got them some pretty good pretty good assets and then they were able to flip them
for grandland who they were able to turn into another first like really was the the gift that
kept on giving their kill my car is going to make more than than um he's gonna make more than this
let me throw a number he is this and this is a number that would apply to
connor mcdavid and it would apply to kill my car um but first i have a question because a lot of
rules have changed recently and i'm still catching up when is the cutoff for signing an eight-year
deal next year in september next september so all through july this upcoming july you can still
sign for eight years yes okay so this may not apply to mcdavid and it may not apply to mccarr
to make to sign if you were to sign a seven-year deal at 136 million which is what caprizov
just signed for that brings you to 19.4 million dollars per season and if you think that's a lot
the most you can sign for is 20 of the cap next year the cap is 104 million that's 20.8 million
and all of a sudden 19.4 sounds all right would you pay 19.4 million for kale mccarr would you
pay 19.4 million for connor mcdavid would you pay 19.4 for anybody else
my answer nathan mckinnon you can't tell me you wouldn't do that for me
yeah okay because you're not just paying for nathan mckinnon mckinnon's talent you're paying
for his personality too like he's so he's such a dog he's a dog like what watching him at four
nations and finally being able to cheer for him yeah but i was like man this this fucking guy's a
you're saying you're not taking into account the uh extra cost of ice repair because he just skates
like fuck you he's the angriest dude on the goddamn ice i i i think the other one that i'm
really paying attention to is is jack eichel because when martyr signed there the conversation
in july was uh well they're gonna do the jack eichel deal and it's gonna come in somewhere
close to martyr maybe slightly above i don't know let's say 13 million yesterday on insider trading
where our boy CJ is on TSN,
LeBron said from Eichel's camp side,
it's $14 million.
Yeah.
Right now.
And he doesn't want to leave Vegas,
and I get that.
So he probably could make more in the open market.
But if it's $14 million
and Vegas can get him down to $13.5 million,
that might end up being a steal.
Like where this is going,
that might not be that bad in a couple of years.
And I think it's, you know,
think about where the cap's going to be in.
it's not not next year 105 or whatever remember that the cap being set quote unquote is still
open to flexibility so 105.5 can go as one as high i think as 107 or 108 if hrr which continues
to grow which it does if the next year when it's supposed to be like 114 115 it grows like it is
expected to we could be closer to 120 and at that point you're getting 20 million dollar hockey
players the sharks should trade everyone just try so hard to be shit and score no goals like
on the power play i don't understand why you accidentally send out three guys i was thinking
about rebuilding teams today all the teams that are celebrating and tap dancing today are the guys
who have almost their entire roster under contract already.
Think of how good Florida feels right now.
Tampa.
Tampa.
Honestly, the Leafs.
There's a lot to feel good about.
Matthews didn't sign a long-term deal,
but yeah, 100%, Adam.
If you're a rebuilding team who's on the up
and you're like, our number's coming in,
yep and all you're like celebrini when that conversation starts to happen which isn't yet
but like what if he just friggin goes off you know it'd be cool he might be the first 10 million guy
right out of elc oh sorry oh we have two of those in toronto oh very 10 million plus out of elc yeah
but unprecedented success yeah that was good you know what it is gonna be nuts like like you know
the guy i was thinking about this morning on the way in who's got to be having a hard day
is is pat verbeek because you've got four or five rfas next year and forget that you know
leo carlson had 45 points and goche had 45 points what if that's 70 because you kind of need it to
be well right so and so oh you're like oh what if they make the playoffs and if i'm pat verbeek i'm
like oh what if we don't it might legitimately might not be good for the long-term health of
the ducks if they do well this year they're making it they're going man oh man uh i want to i want
somebody to mention unless you guys have anything else can i do one interesting note about kaprizov's
contract in that fact that it could go up as time goes along wow this is his contract is being paid
out by a bonus on july 1st and then throughout the season he makes minimum salary with the rising cap
that means the minimum salary he's going to make each and every year also goes up so his contract
will be prorated, I guess, over time to raise
because that $9.25 that he'd make during the season now,
when the cap is at $1.20,
will be, if the minimum salary is a million dollars,
then he'll make a million dollars.
So his cap hit will actually rise
during the length of this eight-year contract.
And the cap is going up like 10% year over year.
Right, so I'll read directly from Puckpedia here.
They said, interesting note that in the next CBA,
the league minimum salary will likely be above
$1 million in 2030, 2031 and beyond. So it's not right away. So Kaprizov would get a raise to the
new minimum and have his contract automatically adjusted upwards. Yes, this probably won't take
place until 2030, 2031 and past that. But as the minimum salary goes up, Kaprizov's minimum salary
that he has to make during the season will go up and therefore the entire worth of his contract
will go up and therefore his aav will actually rise the only other time i can remember this
happening is marner and matthews both had their cap hits slightly adjusted like after covid um
that's a fun little wrinkle yeah yeah so for the nerds so the 17 million dollars that he's making
on the cap each year will actually be a little bit more come 2030 and the rise in minimum salaries
so he might make another few million bucks over the length of the deal yes yeah that's cool due
to that i hundreds of thousands will accumulate over time and he'll make a couple extra yeah
19.1 million in his first four years that's not bad that's okay 20 million bucks every
july 1st i'd celebrate um one unless he was a coyote in which case they may not pay the bonuses
his own time hey remember that happened yes so i do i want to talk about uh briefly or i want to
hear someone tell the story there needs to be a story done on one of the most uh innocuous but
influential phone calls in nhl history and that was on day two of the 2015 draft when the minnesota
wild called up the boston bruins and they said hey we'll trade you our fifth round pick next year
for your fifth-round pick this year
because that's how the Wild got Caprizov.
Oh.
The Wild acquired the 135th pick in 2015
from the Bruins
in exchange for the 136th pick the next year.
The guy the Bruins got capped out at the ECHL.
I had never heard of him.
The other one is the highest-paid player
in hockey history of all time.
of all time it's crazy stop it why how does that happen back to back shows shut off siri you should
turn off hey alexa hey siri hey google talk to each other turn off what's two plus don't do that
uh we've done that bit before and people don't like i love it oh no my series going i said i
said 925 he's making make a million dollars so yeah as it crosses the million dollar threshold
he's gonna make more got it adam next thing sometimes life throws your curveballs and you
don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check
this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building

this event forms about
200 people
that show up to this,
including a huge group
of boys from the local
high school sports teams
and junior hockey.
It also includes
lunch and an event to

the fall is going,
I don't know if we're
going to need the to

luke hughes nine point sorry nine million dollars seven year contract extension and what i kept
saying and i just want to i want to take credit for this uh jake sanderson contract this is the
jake sanderson contract in the new world jake sanderson signs his contract a couple years ago
8.05 million dollars nine nine uh nine point one five percent of the cap got it uh luke hughes
signing his today 9.42 of the cap is it i think it's expected that uh adam didn't even remember
that somebody had to remind him that he said that and then now he's taking credit for it but i i
said that earlier i know i did because i've been i was telling drew in our group chat yeah because
somebody reminded you the other day i was there and you were like oh i forgot i said that it was
at our live event imagine all the brilliance i've forgotten over the course of my life somebody
reminded you that you said it was going to be the jake sanderson contract and you're like oh
i did say that literally now you are you can brag about it because you did remember what's
interesting though is new jersey the fact that new jersey after way more playing time and way
more points from luke hughes still got him on the jake sanderson deal which if you remember was
signed like with just a year under his belt i know we knew jake sanderson was good but
luke hughes has proven it a lot more than jake sanderson did we didn't know jake sanderson was
going to be that good i mean similarly i don't think we knew jack hughes was going to be that
good because even though he was the first overall pick i think sanderson was fifth um when when jack
hughes signed that deal people were like whoa he hasn't even done anything yeah yeah that's like
he might score over 100 points this season i think at some point next summer once we have like a full
sense of where the new contracts are we're gonna have to do like a top 10 best deals in hockey
based on like points to money like how much your dollar gets you on some of those legacy deals that
are because man i you you think about jack hughes you think about quinn hughes luke hughes is the
highest paid hughes brother he's and he's probably the third best hughes brother no disrespect no
disrespect i mean that's a it's a high bar it's not it's not like being brent kretzky like it's
he's pretty good pretty good and and it looks like he's going to be leading the power play i think
we've been saying it for a couple of weeks i didn't have to be reminded of this but i think
dougie hamilton's gone now that this is signed yeah i think if cj were to do a trade board today
october 1st i think that um i think dougie hamilton's got to be at the top of it and like
there's no urgency no to do that like i don't think anybody's making any trades right now i
don't know anytime over the next 12 months but if you're a team like chicago oh yeah one team that
i looked at i'm like they're missing a guy like this is anaheim i know i keep harping on them
san jose for sure those and now it's a question he's got some protection and that sort of thing
but i'm sure you can convince him to come to a place with palm trees uh and you know is there
you know well we'll see who gets injured and that sort of thing too but dougie hamilton
right shot defenseman runs a power play yes coming off a pretty severe injury um at nine million
bucks that's uh it's pretty good money when you consider caprizov at 17 museums in san jose
there's children's discovery museum i think that was featured on blippy the tech interactive that
sounds interesting it's a tech city rosicrucian egyptian museum recrucian thank you i've never
heard of that word there's a recrucian society across the street from us here did you know that
is that what's it no station just down the street what's that what is that uh i had to i didn't know
what it was either so i had to google it and it's something to do with um an egyptian society of
somehow so trip advisor top 10 museums in san jose i i think so steve is referencing for those
of us who don't remember because it was from like 2017 there was a tweet and i forget who it was from
might have been john shannon where basically doggie hamilton had been traded i think either
from calgary or to calgary uh and you know his team it was like sort of like oh well the rest
the team maybe going out for dinner and he was at a he was somewhere else he was going to a museum
or something like that like he is dougie hamilton is a from what we've heard a really good guy just
unique just kind of has his own beat that he marches to does that make sense yeah it's it's
funny how word gets around in hockey there was a player i hope i've never told this story before
i will leave his name out but it was two two guys who ended up making the nhl
but they were in junior at the time and uh this player who also made the nhl was traded to
from one guy's team to the other yeah he's just like hey uh you guys just got uh this guy yeah
how's uh how's that going and it wasn't he's bad guy it was just he's weird well and also hockey's
got a bit of a monoculture thing it's like what do you mean you're not like you know the you know
the the school of fish in in uh finding nemo that speaks in one voice yes sometimes hockey can be
like that right it's sort of like that's there there's a bit of a thing there hey do you speak
in a made-up accent you don't weird that's changing but it in the past it's sort of like
they've treated hockey teams like they're regiments in the army and so i feel like dougie is a really
valuable piece i don't know what he gets new jersey though because if you're an acquiring
general manager the first thing you got to ask is well can he play because he didn't play much
last year yes uh i assume he proves that he can i assume he ends up being as good as he always is
and all of a sudden nine million dollars for dougie hamilton actually he played a lot last
year was the year before sorry oh sorry it was uh it was they all blended yeah 40 points in 64
games man that's a valuable player so he did get hurt yeah it just wasn't till yeah sometimes it
the years blend together yeah but i i look at that all that to say nine million bucks for
dougie hamilton's pretty good yeah and this is a guy who when he arrived in new jersey
in his first like he his first year 30 points his second year 74 oh yeah not a lot of defensemen
have ever got to that 70 point plateau and uh had as he had 22 goals that year thank you kessel
one of the draft picks from the phil kessel trip oh yeah i know it's brutal the forgotten one he's
also from toronto dougie hamilton he was in their hype reel for a long time there was like this kid
going like this and that's dougie and it was dougie hamilton no way yeah oh that's cool they
did a feature on it years ago i don't know where he fits but man new jersey just got some sweet
assets uh that's uh that's gonna be they're in a good spot that'll be a good trade for them they're
in a good spot they're they're also in a cap crunch like they're over the cap currently by
uh like 3.9 million dollars so they have to figure that out they also can they bury anybody
jess they got kovacevic and nason on uh ir which helps them so we'll figure out what they do with
their cap as uh the season goes along they don't they don't need kovacevic like at all i thought
they were trying to move him anyway i would hope like he makes a lot and like the right side's
juiced like their decor is juiced like i don't know i just don't think you need four million
bucks well they did just sign him to the extension yeah march 7th this year they shouldn't have
they shouldn't have you can move off of deals i mean i mean a right shooting defenseman for
four million bucks yeah you can it doesn't even sound that bad anymore oh okay so why doesn't
new jersey just keep them well they already have a lot of money locked up in their decor
and if he's playing as your fourth fifth sixth defenseman maybe not even top six like i don't
know the devils have 36 million dollars in defensemen signed this season next season they
have 35 million so she they kind of got everything locked up and that does not include an rfa deal
they have to do oh i'm in nemish who was picked bloody second overall there's a lot of work to be
done here it's not an enviable well i mean it's kind of enviable you got the guys but the hard
part is getting good players yeah so Nemech so you could probably from that roster you could
lose Nemech or sorry not lose Nemech you could lose Hamilton and Kovacevic and be fine yes yes
because you're gonna have yeah you've got Pesci and Hughes Dylan's the left shot Siegenthaler's
the left shot I don't know Seamus Casey had some really good moments last year but like I'm not
sure if he's if he's the I mean ideally maybe you you don't want him as your top six yet well if I'm
not mistaken you can send you can still send nemich and casey down if you really had you could
send luke hughes down if you had to you could send luke hughes down today if you want you could
you perhaps should have mine waivers no he that like he does you can send him down you know he
doesn't have to clear waivers so what really yeah he's 22 hasn't played his waivers exempt he's
hasn't played a lot yeah i for for some reason i thought it was elc only man he's waivers exempt
yeah good for him you could say i think a whole season for luke hughes and the ahl would do him
wonders yeah you know what jesse he needs more time to develop give him some power play time
doggie hamilton you stick around is that jake allen signed to that weird ass contract yes down
here yeah 1.8 why did he do that he could have made so much money do you remember we had that
discussion on july 1st you know whenever the deal was signed maybe he got all the money that he was
gonna get because it's 1.8 until he's a 40 year old man yeah but i think i think if he had made
it to the open market you think about like the flyers what they could you know if christian
dvorak i'm going to use him as the example or or tanner genoa christian dvorak five million
tanners you know at 3.4 a valuable goalie with veteran experience like jake allen that's a five
million dollar goaltender maybe he doesn't want to go there i think he's very happy i think he
and just took the money for a long time happy in new jersey he's missed a lot of time in his career
you know sort of along the lines of what we were saying with stolars
secure the bag you know what your job is you don't have to worry you're a millionaire
good for him this isn't i think the point here is that this isn't the dealing like we're not
done with dealings in new jersey they have a lot of maneuvering to do especially on the back end
so we'll see what they do next fun team to watch really fun team to watch geez sheldon keith never
had a decor like this in toronto holy shit it's pretty good i uh i want to actually um i want to
move to the leafs because there's a couple of things that i thought you'd find interesting
first off the maple leafs are they listening to the sdp yes okay so they so we know that we know
that for sure no because the maple leafs are actually giving away tickets to a game what
A regular season game?
No.
It's preseason, though.
That's okay.
And it's 500.
It'll be 1,000 people that go 500 giveaways, basically, for 500.
So it's 500 pairs.
Yeah, you get two.
Great.
I couldn't get the pairs thing out.
But this Saturday night, when you know that Matthews is playing,
so they're probably going to ice most of their lineup.
If you create your fan access account, and they're not paying for this.
You don't know that Matthews is playing, because they play Thursday, too.
yeah they from what i understand matthews wasn't going to travel with them on i was told he's only
playing home games and he's only playing two in the preseason that's what i was told but maybe
maybe he goes to detroit and he's like you know what i like little caesars it's a great arena
and it is um if you're ed rogers you say it's free a little brat take it or leave it but they
want to get uh so if you create a fan access account you get into a draw and there will be
500 pairs of tickets given away and i think that's great that's what preseason games should
be used for fan engagement and uh yeah third the tomorrow's game is at home oh i thought it was on
the road yeah no that's why i was confused wait so they had two games at home uh i don't know
about the saturday game at all all i know is like tomorrow october 2nd they play the red oh this is
for tomorrow's game they play the red ones at home okay then then probably and then the fourth
they play at little caesar okay i forgot today was the first so what it was back up october 2nd
what is this for if you do this now you get over tomorrow's game again we're working towards
perfection here working towards taking steps towards perfection okay i think it's cool there's
a okay that's cool matthews will play tomorrow all right all right yeah it's okay we got there
we got there um and and i think that's kind of neat don't you wish you could just hit skip
on the worst parts of your life you know the same way you can skip an ad i get it i'm cia
and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable decisions

The other thing that I want to mention that I think you will find very interesting
is the Toronto Maple Leafs value has gone up.
Now, we've talked about this before.
Gary Bettman mentioned this.
If Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment were to spin the Toronto Maple Leafs off and sell them, last year, Gary said $5.5 billion, $6 billion.
No question.
And I don't have any issue with that.
I think that's probably true.
But what's their actual, quote-unquote, franchise value?
It's probably less than that because these assets are very, very much in demand.
sure but the actual franchise value has gone up over 500 billion sorry 500 million dollars
in the last oh jesus christ it's a b uh 500 million dollars in the last year
16 all right it's the pre-season we're working our way up we're getting it all out of our system
three i'm having the kind of game nick cousins had last night um damn 3.66 billion at this time
last year they're now worth 4.25 billion money's just made up well so since ed rogers bought bought
out bell uh he's made basically the money almost some of the money back he's used to buy up here
like it's crazy adam here let me let me help you out it's sportico and sit here let me read the
article uh it starts with this particle yeah oh fucking they're worth 11 billion dollars said one
spokesperson from whoever the fucking sons uh fucking i think they'll be worth like fucking
two billion more in six months the average nhl that's an actual quote the average nhl team
at this time two years ago was worth less than a billion dollars average nhl team the sense then
they 900 mil yeah then they they sold the sense but really they moved arizona out of the league
and they moved utah into the league and last year for the first time ever every franchise was worth
over a billion okay now the average nhl team is worth 2.1 billion dollars yeah that's that's fab
that's made up can i ask you gentlemen if you're worried about relocation of any of the teams at
the bottom of the list of franchise values what do we got like the ottawa senators i guess we
don't be worried about that and our can prop that thing up they are the 31st uh highest value team
and they will always struggle with corporate sponsorships because it's a government city but
we also know like part of what's behind that like you mentioned the government thing but
they're building stinks and they're gonna fix that so that thing's gonna go up if labretton
flats actually exists we're unsure if it is a location on earth uh we will find out in the next
couple years so they're at 1.34 billion at 31st place at 32nd place they've actually had a
21 increase in their value but they're still last the winnipeg jets at 1.33 billion dollars
cause for concern last uh last actually there is a team below them one team well what the coyote uh
oh the columbus blue jackets yeah yeah uh what's an american team should not be below the winnipeg
why doesn't that work it does work they just never they've as portsy put so perfectly in his
article they are the team that parody forgot they are perennial bad i guess they just they need a
couple they need like back-to-back goods they need to go to the playoffs yeah winnipeg is based
solely i think jesse on market size and arena the arena is 15 000 uh they do have trouble selling it
out from time to time especially when the economy's tough and the jets did a terrible organization
terrible job of reaching out to the community because they thought after 10 straight years
of sellouts well we don't have to worry about this and then they they learn so i look at the
problems the sends are facing and i go those are solvable problems or the biggest one is the
building and that's a solvable problem how do you solve that in winnipeg i think that i think
you solve it by opening up manitoba which is what they're going to do under the new canadian
government um and start to build you know major projects you look at something like you know what
brings Alberta so much value, right? You look at what brings Ontario so much value. Every province
is different. In Manitoba, they have a really unique opportunity with Churchill, which is a
port right on the Hudson's Bay. Four or five months of the year, the water, you don't have to
use the icebreakers or whatever to get ships in there. And they're saying that pipelines and
mineral extraction and all that stuff that they want to open in Northern Ontario and Manitoba
is all going to go out through that port.
And also, with global warming in the next 75 years,
you probably won't need icebreakers at all,
or at least for most of the year.
So it's a port that they're going to invest heavily in.
And so what needs to happen in Manitoba
is you need the same sorts of things
that brought Saskatchewan so much growth in the 2010s.
And so I think that's going to happen in Manitoba.
I think that there's a lot to unlock there.
It's just that if you look at the major Canadian cities
where there's an NHL team right now,
Winnipeg is seventh of seven in terms of economic power.
And that's not because Winnipeg doesn't have potential.
It's just because it's not there yet, right?
Okay.
And so that is what can be done.
They could build up the Manitoba economy,
which from what I understand,
that's exactly what they're going to do.
Good.
I know a lot of Canadians who are like,
yeah, I've been to this province, this province, this province,
and they skipped right over Manitoba.
I know.
that was me for a very long time until i went there for a cool place man yeah like i i got
nothing against it i love every canadian place i've been to it's just for a lot of my life it's
like yeah saskatchewan alberta bc oh it's insane i think when you have when you have those types
of jobs you have people working um and making a lot of money you look at like what the oil sands
and stuff what those guys make um and as much as people sort of um i don't think a lot of canadians
outside of that think about it. But you can walk in there with less than a high school education
and make more than or make as much as like a lawyer would. And I think those types of jobs
being available to people draws people to provinces like that. So what I would expect
in Manitoba is if these public works projects actually happen, is you're going to see housing
prices explode, which people are going to complain about, and I don't blame them. You're going to see
lots more jobs lots of growth you know the building of suburbs schools things like that
and then eventually 15 500 people in an arena is not going to be enough and then they're going to
have to build a new and they're going to have to build the building i was going to say but that
first you got to solve these problems and then 10 15 years from now we're talking about that yeah
but yeah that's that's what you need to do yeah because those articles that cj had to pump out
because he was talking with the owner those were a little scary was that last year yeah that was
last season i think that's fairly recent memory do you not think jesse though that that was that
was pointed like the jets going we got a problem here and we got to get the community on side yes
and i think they did a great job with that uh the chipman mark chipman mark chip uh talking with cj
to get that that noise out in the market like hey if we need some support here from not just like
the everyday people coming to the games because i think they've got enough of that it's the
corporate sponsors and the people who can afford season seats yeah that's what we need and i think
Yeah, getting that noise out there was helpful for them.
And do I have to text Nick Barton about how he wrote this article?
Did Nick write this?
No, I'm reading one in the hockey news where he summarized all this stuff.
And I was saying, I was like, okay, Ottawa's second last, right?
And Winnipeg's last.
Because he writes, the Winnipeg Jets are one spot below the Senators in 32nd.
Did 33 teams start existing?
Because he said the least valued NHL franchise is the Columbus Blue Jackets.
But he said the Jets are in 32nd.
As a guy who really pays attention to detail.
I got that from you this one time.
Earlier in the article.
Okay, this is a ridiculous question.
Are the Coyotes valued higher?
Because there are technically 33 teams.
There are, I guess.
There's 33 franchises, but the standings only show 32.
No, they're not talking.
Because the Coyotes are a franchise.
They're just inactive.
If you want to buy that franchise, though, it's $2 billion.
Do you have the full list?
yep right here what are the coyotes on there uh they have no expense are they they are not on
there oh okay but the franchise to buy the franchise it's 1.5 to 2 billion yeah so they'd
be ahead so they might be right there'd be 33 teams he might be right he might be all right
not listed now i have to ask you guys um at times the rangers and the leafs have been neck and neck
in value where do you think the rangers are they're in new york
the leafs at 4.25 billion that's your caprizov benchmark i'm gonna say the rangers went up i i
think they're higher than oh they all went up what are they no sorry higher than the leafs no the
leafs are number one wow oh wait what we didn't say that again the leafs are the most don't wait
we didn't qualify that the leafs are one i said that the leafs are at 4.25 billion that's your
caprizov benchmark i thought you might have felt like oh that makes it in the number one but i
Joe is just catastrophic.
Just guess what the Rangers are.
Yeah, just give me a number.
There's two.
They're second place.
Two billion?
No, no, no.
What do you want from me?
I want how much you think the Rangers are worth.
They're at number two.
They're at number two.
Yeah, yeah.
There you go.
Four flat.
Jesse, give me a guess.
I already know.
3.65.
Ooh.
That's a big difference.
That's what the Leafs were worth last year.
Oh, shit.
Jesse spilled water.
Why don't we take a pause?
Go to the three.
Okay, now that we're okay and back and water-free,
jez uh steve jeez steve what uh what do you want rangers two i know that's difficult for you so i
got one and two it's okay number three blackhawks they are number one two seven seven wow the price
of being ass um montreal montreal hey how much if the rangers are 3.65 3.5 3.3 ah pretty good
though for my leaves are way up there huh yeah uh next one i'm just gonna go to the top five
vancouver nope damn american original six yeah go american
oh detroit nope they're not even i don't even think they're in the top 10 they're they are 10
they're 10 boston feels too small boston boston boston three bill wow and the last team another
huge market in the United States.
Boston's four?
Yeah.
Okay.
I mean, you're talking about Boston,
like the little central Boston area.
Right.
Greater Boston area is huge.
Yeah, of course it is.
Yeah, you're right.
Boston also owns their own arena,
which is a big deal.
Big deal.
The Leafs do too, right?
Yes, the Leafs own Scotia.
But not everybody does.
Yeah.
All right, number five.
Philadelphia.
That would be a good pick.
They are in the top 10.
They're at 2.668.
just give me another one okay so i did say vancouver vancouver no not i said go american
oh go american vancouver's not in the top 10 no what okay i don't even know if vancouver's in the
top 15 vegas nope vegas is not in the top 10 colorado not in the top 10
i already said philadelphia where were they eighth okay it ain't pittsburgh
surely not buffalo no they're they're bottom five oh god actually their fourth last which
is crazy there's such a good tv market there's such a good hockey market yeah
stupid terry pagola's cost himself money it's america what am i missing big city united states
chicago no you already said chicago i know i did they are seventh at 2.74 kings kings there you go
really 2.96 billion uh i don't know if this is well known they also own crypto do they yeah yeah
because aeg owns the kings and aeg owns crypto smart okay it's it's it's funny because like
you'd think like the celtics own uh where they play in the gardens but that's owned by jeremy
jacobs so the celtics are actually tenants there and you'd think like the lakers would own staples
but that's owned by the king's side imagine how much jeremy jacobs charges them for ice cream
right so wait that's what he does the kings own staples yeah because aeg not not the lakers that's
crazy the bus family owns the the lake with used to they they sold portion of it but aeg the live
events business they built up crypto and everything and they own the kings and so that adds to their
value never have guessed a surprise here with with florida's three straight wins or jumps to
the cup i mean florida used to be a perennial top sorry bottom five team they're now like 15th 16th
they are worth more than the canucks they are worth more than the calgary flames they are worth
more than the avalanche the wild the penguins the preds some pretty big markets there and i think
what's interesting you know you look at calgary shitty arena what's that arena uh goes away no
disrespect to the south dome but it's you know it's as old as i am um i mean i know yeah and
And so that will go up.
Vancouver, remember we did that whole thing on Vancouver
doesn't even have their own practice facility?
Right.
Utah just released photos of theirs,
and I'm like, oh my God, who wouldn't want to practice in Utah?
Tech CU in San Jose.
Insane.
It mops the Ford Performance Center.
Does Toronto, do the Leafs own the Ford Performance Center?
Matty?
They must.
Didn't you say that PWHL in Vancouver
already has their own practice facility?
Yes.
They're not even started yet.
The team that does not exist, that's playing in the PWHL, has a practice facility.
And the Vancouver Canucks, worth how much, Adam?
The Vancouver Canucks are worth 1.87 bill.
Don't have a dedicated practice facility that they own and operate.
Any theories at all why?
Their owner.
Cheapness.
It's not a theory.
Cheap.
Their owner's a real estate developer.
There's no excuse, Matty.
He's owned the team for over 10 years.
There's absolutely no excuse.
The guy knows what shit costs and how to build it.
and he's like so like what's he doing you know uh uh there's some lawsuits i'm not even kidding
so i think i think oh yeah i think there's chaos at the top of vancouver i don't think there's
anything oh yeah you did mention that last there's not a there's there's no so the canucks if i'm a
billionaire if you could get them to sell the canucks that's a primo opportunity to make a lot
of money in like no time because if you could get somebody with actual vision in there okay
and you could get a practice facility sorted out if you could maybe do a little more outreach to
the fans and maybe just have some stability like not not that you need to stay out of it because
you do need your president like jim rutherford to report to you but if you could not be a pain
in the ass all the time and cause chaos gee i think vancouver to me is like there's a market
where i'm like that should explode the reason i kept saying vancouver's i swear they used to be
higher they might have been like much higher even though even the lightning surprised me they're
like they're like 16th at 1.9 i thought they'd be higher yeah wow smaller market though right
yeah but their owners got deep pockets and well vinick sold all right so he's got it but he's
still running it but he's he sold most of his majority share because he's doing estate planning
that's the problem with 32 teams the tax times you forget the tax on estate planning is crazy
anyway and you're asking about ford performance where the lease practice it's owned by the city
of toronto but they have a partnership where the mlse runs the building kind of but it's
technically owned by the city same with um where tfc plays yes canada's two generously three
corporations yeah i just i just finished the rogers versus rogers book holy shit yeah like
it's the the active mayor of toronto was on the rogers board and there was a there was an article
hey steve we're not getting into that no no no no there was an article do his review of the book
we got a book review corner you know what adam you get something wrong again jesse you knock
over your freaking water let me say my rogers thing okay now book review corner no it was a
satirical headline written by the beaverton uh when um mayor john tory won re-election it was
like rogers executive gets side hustle back ha ha ha what up but ah yeah i liked it oh i thought
it was funny that's all that's all i wanted to fucking say all right it really landed yeah
you're not with a really receptive room you're not wrong when you say that that that canada is
rough like roughly it is about 20 20 corporations yeah if not yeah it's like here's the grocery
sector here's and it's because we had a thing where uh in the so business leaders are smart
right they're like hey canadian government it's tough for canadian companies to make it on the
world stage because we're a small population what if there was two of them what if we created a
monopoly which gives us the opportunity or close to a monopoly which gives us the opportunity
to go into other markets and have a really strong base in canada and that way we can expand worldwide
and the government's like that's a great idea and so those those companies got the monopoly they
were looking for and never left the country they're like why would we leave the only thing
i lose money only thing i took from the book there are no grown-ups that's a concept we made up oh
100 yeah the the food thing the grocery thing scares me so much because there's actually only
one two three four companies that own everything and you think like oh there's so many grocery
stores and everything but it's only four companies that own all of the yeah subsidiary canada post
is striking right now and they're picketing outside of pure later who they own 91 percent of
there are there's four corporations in the country i think shopify is the only one in the country
that isn't like quasi government even the cable companies are but they have their own problems
yes they do yes they do i don't know i don't know if that's the example you want to go i didn't give
an example i just said a fact they're not a government but as of 2020 there became a fifth
corporation sdpn oh yeah that's right maddie why are you laughing yeah that was a serious
watching sports net at all when either you're watching like the blue jays game or a leafs game
or whatever it's just like okay so this thing that's owned by rogers we're watching the product
that's owned by rogers on the rogers network and then all the commercials about how i gotta have
my internet and phone with rogers yeah and the team is owned by rogers and the building is owned
by or named after rogers yeah there's a statue of blue jays who are owned by rogers with a statue
of rogers outside the building now they got this campaign it's like can we own canada steam we're
super proud proud owner of canada steam you should just shorten it to proud owner of canada yeah
that's kind of the long and the short of it yeah long until ed is just on a ballot like let's let's
just cut to the chase you said you didn't want to talk about this what do you want to talk about

I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned. And today I'm still
figuring it out somehow things usually get worse before they get better apparently that's how i
roll so bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride don't miss the new season of north of north
starting september 8th on cbc gem uh the habs and sens almost killed each other last night what
the hell was that i don't know nick cousins is uh the one thing i'll i'll give habs fans well
I'll give them a lot.
And Sens fans would agree with this too
if he were still in Florida.
Nick Cousins can really suck.
And sometimes that suck is super valuable, right?
Sometimes you get what you get last night.
And again, it's a preseason game,
but you get unhinged Nick Cousins
where it actually hurts the team he plays for.
And I think there were a lot of Sens fans last night
who were like, yeah, I'm like not even sure
he should make the team.
Every Sen and every Sens fan
should be furious with cousins because he slashes Ivan Demidov and it was uncalled for I mean it's
friggin Ivan Demidov and all the all the Habs fans that I was reading today they don't want
revenge on Nick Cousins who the hell is he they're like go after Timmy Stutzla oh you got to get
through he's dodgeball yeah hard to hard to hit Timmy Stutzla when he's already on the ground
sanderson yeah batherson yeah can i do a little can i do a little thing on that slash that
everybody's talking about sure because the slash is it comes from what says steve likes to say
one of the biggest pants shitting moments that somebody can have yes because nick cousins
slashes demidoff because he fails to land a body check right so you see him go up against the
boards there's demidoff and nick cousins is trying to lay a hit and because he's so slow and sucks
because he's ass at hockey he misses demidoff and he can't lay the hit on him so what does he do he
chases him up the ice and is like hey because i can't catch you i'm gonna reach out and slash you
i missed the slash there on my little thing but you can see him hack him right there it's nasty
it's uncalled for he just whacks at his wrist and demidoff had to leave the game it's you know
it's bad what a baby uh yeah like generally what a giant baby you could say that anytime nick
cousins place uh yes generally i mean this guy iced the leafs a couple years ago and how the
not all that mighty have fallen like his number one leaf rival is a current marley and he's going
uh jacob quillen exactly who's that um and now he's going after a habs rookie which
if he earns it fine if demidov's running around like a chuck was going after dowdy
you know when he was first coming into the league fine demidov did not earn that no it's possible
he missed his time they said it won't be long term but like does he miss opening night does
team this opening week um and now for this guy who might not even make your team there who who's
it gonna be who's it gonna be now great there's two jack eyes now and they're both in florian
florian fought last night well yeah and he fought yan yannick i was like oh no oh like i almost
texted alan yeah because yan unique's an alan guy i was gonna go uh hey they were just throwing
bombs not a lot landed no you know but they were they were throwing but i was like man good for
yan unique to stand up and take that because i'd be oh yeah terrified going up against
but like florian jack guy is is a scary dude and his brother's about 50 pounds scarier
and it's just
you can't show this Maddie but there's
the fight yeah okay
Yannick was smart he got his hands
around Florian's head
as much as he could grab his arm just grab him
just try to neutralize he was doing okay
till he missed that one punch and then
a couple
you got a left hand at the end
that's not a bad fight you know that guy gets the
takedown but damn dude
that's a good
this is the one where
yeah and he gets one on uh on florian there they're oh man yeah he gets one you could argue
that's a draw no i'd i'd say jack i won 10 9 victory in the 12th but he did get one in he got
one in he got a really good one in florian wins it he's a beast giant kid but uh sometimes you
win by not dying i'm proud of young unique for stepping in there no sometimes you win by not
dying it's true like we gave marks to um who was it marshall refi fought zach mckeown yeah because
what the hell are you doing fighting zach mckeown as marshall refi and what the hell is yan you need
doing fighting florida by the way zach mckeown fought last night i'm pretty sure too in that
line brawl um he did people i saw sed's fan tweet man zach mckeown is not good and in dorian game
three years yeah and listen is that i like zach mckeown i think he's tough he's good at what he
does sure um i question like how many of these guys you want toughness throughout the lineup i
get that is that game did not i don't think do a lot for nick cousins jesse stop it i'm sending
this to alan jesse stop oh yeah you got a unique one yeah i agree alan would say that yeah by the
way anybody with a soft j in the nhl in their name pretty good it's alan's client yeah um i think uh
I think that this is like Lilligren.
This is going to be interesting.
I'm sure Travis Green this morning, if he talks to the media,
they're going to say, hey, or he's going to say, hey, like, no, no, whatever.
We love Nick.
He does great, blah, blah, blah, blah.
But I do have to ask the question, is a game like that from a veteran,
something that hurts your reputation and your stock this close to the regular season?
Remember, that's your second last game.
I don't know if Travis Green reacts that way, honestly.
Like, I don't know if he reacts to anything.
No, that's true.
doesn't really have a heartbeat but he he played like a similar role for most of his career to or
maybe not similar but you know he's a pest deeper in the lineup past a guy who you expect to take a
chunk out of the opponent in a pre-season game like i'm sorry that's a dumb thing to do yeah
thing to do yeah uh oh yeah there's gonna be lots of fines suspension um
pre-season okay i'm of the opinion that pre-season suspensions don't count
unless he's suspended for regular season games it doesn't count like who gives a good gosh darn
yo you probably wouldn't play it anyways yeah four hours ago at the time we're recording this
said expecting some fines following last night's debacle in quebec city
uh as of right now we do not have those details
uh but yeah i would imagine at least him uh there were some ugly cross checks i can't even remember
all of them there was one in the in the calgary seattle game as well what what happened last night
yeah oh maddie were you working that guy i was working the i was about to say like all this
fighting i'm just like what is going on this preseason i feel like so many games like that
i've covered the fights are just not so many but like calgary seattle though yeah there was a lot
of net scrums preseason can be good or bad for that depending on how you view it um because it's
guys trying to make it oh i see and this is this is a guy trying to make it in nick cousins because
his spot in the nhl isn't secure anymore and i think you heard as a as a veteran like i'm signing
with with marty in his post game where he was saying there's no need for that it's an exhibition
game like that's what i'm signing on that yeah yeah big cousins you're a vet like you should
know that going after demidov because you missed a hit and slashing him none of that's worth it
we're both in the nhl here we're both hockey players the other day you shouldn't be trying
to take me out in this exhibition match maybe the dumbest part of it all was uh after he got called
for his very obvious slash the refs got a hold of him and he's talking what are you what are you
complaining about oh he's nick cousin he's always complaining oh it's not about it's not a mouth
yeah he's such a mouth like yeah this is a guy who's making 825 he's trying to make the end of
roster to go out and do it that way it's not none of that's worth it you should know better
at this point in your career damn it off dudes if you could have picked a single hab you picked
the wrong one yeah they're going to kill you or your teammates yeah yeah i think the sense could
trade them and they'll they'll still go after stutzler or someone when's first game have sense
in the regular well they got another one on saturday oh there you go and it's a preseason
Cousins won't be in that game.
You don't think so?
No, I don't think you trust them.
Okay, all right.
Yeah, but if either Jack-Eye is, you're dead.
Yeah, I think regular season one is where you get your retribution, right?
They don't play.
Hopefully, it's like a Saturday.
Wow, they don't play until November 1st.
Get ready for a Tuesday afternoon, Jesse.
November 1st, 7 p.m.
I don't know what November 1st is.
November 1st?
November 1st.
Well, I don't know what day of the week.
No, I know.
I've been wrong enough this episode.
I feel like perhaps.
It's a Saturday.
it that might be a can't miss there it is uh jack guy you dress him on the first line you start him
you have him play all 60 minutes and every time nick cousins steps off of the bench punch him
the come on brady get the group chat going yeah you dress group chat brady you dress both jack
adam you might be on to something oh opening face off let's be done with it oh you think
brady's texting cousins no he's texting well he's got a probably got a group text like
he did at four nations and they're like all right who are we taking well it's not on it's on the
habs here to punch some faces but what are the sense or the sense can double down on being the
bad guy which is sort of the theme for the world right now hey we're ghouls and we're not even
gonna hide it fuck you the the hockey code guy thing is actually brady being proactive
and going we owe you a pound of flesh what are we doing because if he doesn't do that
the habs simply take it and they take it in the form of fine we're gonna slash you then
and who which one of your good not all that big players are we injuring
the number one name is tim stutzela yeah like let's let's throw drake batherson in there
maybe shane pinto i mean jake sanderson but you don't like any of the names that i just mentioned
right not particularly so it's actually i think a good idea for brady kachok and sen's leadership
to be like all right how do we make this right you can't protect them all you can try i think
we're in for one hell of a game yeah it could happen tonight or whenever the next game is
tomorrow hopefully it's tomorrow because saturday oh boo i was gonna say we have a friday show
that'd be nice yeah it'll be good like it no cousins i think open a can of worms that was
that was dumb and i didn't see a ton of sense fans uh sticking up for him as a leaf fan there
is nothing that makes me happier than these two teams tearing each other apart oh please go ahead
it was great please that was great continue keep it going yeah have at it did you i wanted to make
sure i had the right game but did you see tim stutzel's dive in the devil's game i did he's
terrible i did see that it's terrible that's not the only one this preseason either jesse i just i
was looking for that while you're talking because i was like oh yeah what happened with stutzel in
the preseason uh he got slashed in the hands and then somehow lost his footing his his he gets
slashed in the hands which you can't do runs into the goalie his feet stop moving yeah and torpedoes
the goalie this is my question with stutzler i know michael bunting was annoying because he never
shut up but when when are the refs gonna start being embarrassed by this guy like they're
embarrassed by doing a superman flying like we okay you see you say bunting and you might be
like well bunting didn't you know fuck up he never shut the fuck up yeah he needs but but
they shut the faucet off we're gonna allow everyone to kill you and it's fine yeah
The better comparison is Kadri.
Okay.
Kadri was a caliber player.
What's going on, guys?
What happened?
Natty's losing her mind over there.
She thinks this is the funniest thing she's ever seen.
I mean, it's genuinely like that's humiliating.
That's such a dive.
It's so bad.
You can argue it's a penalty, too.
On him, yeah.
It's a penalty.
Yeah.
It's two penalties.
It's diving and running the goalie.
Yes.
His feet literally stop.
And slashing.
yeah like let's give him the slash
or the penalty shot
I think he got a penalty shot out of this
he could not have won
sometimes I still wonder about the devils
like this
the end of this play should have been
him getting a new
mouth of dentures
I seriously don't think
I've ever seen a hockey player go faster
into a net
well
you ever see Michael Grabner play there Matty
this
is so bad it's so bad but what i would say is where's the cadre treatment for this guy
because they shut the faucet off on cadre too we got too loud with our little twitter accounts
about how cadre leads the league and drawn penalties yeah shut up shut up and then it got
so bad with cadre that babcock had to say something babcock like you know for all his
faults like company man and i and i don't think he made it a habit of being like oh the officiating
in this league or whatever but they it was like two weeks where everyone just beat the shit out
of poor Nazem Kadri.
Without a call.
If Nazem was on this show right
now, would you say, Naz, I felt bad for you? Come on.
Well, as a Leaf fan, I did.
I love Naz. I want him to be a Leaf
again. I don't...
Well, it's like the Alex Burrows shit.
Yeah. Alex Burrows
was, when he played,
a disgrace. Let's
call it what it is. He was a rat
and, yeah, he sold it a lot.
But what happened
to him one night
can't happen and you can all go back and look at this i think it was
jesse can you help me out with a little google search was it stefan oj i think was the ref
okay and the story as burrows told it was oj walked up to him skated up to him before the game
and he said you made me look like a fool and i'm gonna get you and burrows got called three times
that night and it i think it was a one goal game it cost him the game and he goes right in front of
the media after the game and he's like here's what he said and you might not feel bad for burrows you
might look at burrows and go well it's earned but you can't be going and doing what's hilarious
that's a kin to match every match fix every ref after that would be like okay now you've just
gone after us all of us yeah so we're gonna fuck you up so the he just made it worse like just
shut up dude take your medicine and leave so you're never going to get a call again and now
he's behind the habs bench so just remember that for the next time you don't get a call yeah right
uh bunting got the it's like a memo went out no calls for bunting cadre a memo went out no calls
for cadre calgary how about calgary after dennis weidman hit the ref and then all of a sudden
they're the most penalized team in the league or they have the worst penalty differential in the
league oh i'm sure that was just a coincidence too but for some reason it hasn't come back and
bit tim stutzla yet uh it was oj yeah stefan oj in the borough's controversy yeah yeah and if you
go back and watch the clips like it's he got fucked that night it was bad it was bad uh shout
out the coming in hot sends uh account that tweeted out the uh stutzla falling penalty shot
play uh i can't believe that resulted in that you could argue no you could argue it is an an
honest to goodness penalty shot because it's a slash in the hands from behind you don't have
to argue it is what happened yeah no no but like i'm saying it's not the wrong call yeah but i
think his feet stopped working there should have been multiple calls on that play does he know
some sort of like ninja pressure point thing where you get a certain spot in the wrist and
it shuts your knees down yeah that's it's it's it's disgraceful it's a miracle that his legs
stopped when he got hit in the hands and how was he after that and he probably fine ecls after that
slash it's crazy like uh get out of here yeah okay let's uh why don't we do the press conference
all right don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life you know the same
way you can skip an ad? I get it. I'm Siaya and I live in Ice Cove. I've made some questionable

I like a good follow-up.
You know, we talk about something, we talk to the crowd, and then we get a nice little follow-up.
And the follow-up I have here today, if I can find the email that was sent in,
because we usually don't get follow-ups via emails but um when we get long form answers
that's where they come from it is from a native of california who wants to break down how
californians root for their teams do you remember we had this discussion because i was trying to
push back on adam looping in anaheim with with king's fans and sharks fans and all that what's
their name matthew matthew what are you doing here so matthew has the history to weigh in on
this you know he is a longtime listener of the show who's lived his whole life in various parts
of socal santa barbara anaheim hills irving uh corona how'd you get there so uh matthew here
breaks it down by sport okay i like fascinating matthew writes i would say generally when it
comes to hockey kings fans seem to be more widespread and i see infinitely more kings
merch than ducks merch the only time i ever meet any ducks fans is at their games it seems that
most kings fans don't think about the ducks or just think of them as an unnecessary franchise
while most ducks fans hate the kings kind of seems like an older brother younger brother dynamic i
I also think it's important to note that every year I see more and more Vegas fans creeping into SoCal.
And I think Kings and Ducks fans can unite in hating the Golden Knights the most.
I think it's odd that when the NHL did choose Anaheim, that they didn't choose San Diego.
Like, I agree, Adam.
You know what I mean?
Can't wait to go there.
Because LA is a big market.
And yes, you can have two.
But OK, you could have the Anaheim Ducks.
But why do we never hear San Diego come up?
And I know that obviously they just lost their football team as well.
That's their farm team in San Diego.
Yeah, I know.
But like that, San Diego is a huge city.
I don't I don't understand why you wouldn't want to spread the franchises out.
Mid 90s, Gary Bettman.
But OK, fine.
You're going to have a team in Anaheim, too.
Why not a fourth team in California?
You can do that.
Well, it's the seventh biggest economy in the world.
There was a guy who wanted to bring a team to Anaheim and he didn't want to bring it
to San Diego.
That's why, I guess.
Yeah, I guess.
Matthew writes, what important note is that everyone in SoCal who doesn't live in San
in the greater la area considers the whole thing to be just la but people who live in the anaheim
pocket consider it to be separate from la yes the los angeles angels of anaheim so the people
within the market have have they they think they're separate the people outside of it kind
of group the whole thing together yeah it's like greater toronto area uh but if you ask somebody
from hamilton where they're from they're not going to be like yeah hamilton or sorry they're
going to be yeah toronto i was about to say uh the opposite yes football is a bit of a mixed bag
due to the rams coming back relatively recently so i would say that an equal number of 49ers rams
and raiders fans exist then there are the chargers who no one cares about except for people in san
diego but none of them will admit to it anymore due to the chargers abandoning them i also know
that there is a widespread boycott among changers chargers fans in san diego of any merch post move
wow that's the San Diego Chargers moving up to LA did he say anything about Raiders in there
because they were there yeah he said there's an equal number of 49ers Rams and Raiders oh I missed
the Raiders part yeah and they were they were NorCal right like we were yes we were just outside
Oakland when we were in San Jose yeah that's uh I feel bad for that city you know like Oakland yeah
you have you have the Warriors the Raiders and the Athletics and they all leave within what is a
decade span it's very sad uh for sports fans in that in Oakland there but uh bad ownership that
that'll happen to you you know what's great about the athletics is it you know they've they left the
city of oakland with a bad taste in their mouth and they went to sacramento and immediately did
the same thing uh like not well received apparently in sacramento because shitty ownership they have
no home like stadium not yet it's hard for people to in sacramento in sacramento to care
because they know this is just a pass-through franchise to vegas right the vegas arena is
done built and it's got to be an arena right it's too hot to play outside in vegas isn't it sorry
arena ballpark but it's an arena ballpark like what like what we uh i don't know if it's gonna
have a dome on it probably retractable okay i haven't seen the plans for the dome but they're
they had their renderings but i don't know what it's gonna be okay i can pull it up after uh
basketball uh matthew says he doesn't follow basketball a whole lot it's the least of the
major sports he follows um but there's a lot of diehard lakers fan everyone is diehard lakers fan
or a bandwagon warriors fan who was hanging on clippers no one cares about the clippers i've
never met a single clippers fan or seen a single piece of clipper no no that's there's uh that tree
company they like the clippers a lot yeah that's that's what i've heard about la and the clippers
like there's no genuine clippers fan well because they were the san diego clippers yeah i know you
exist out there i'm not saying there's zero but generally everyone's a lakers fan oh wait a sec
jesse i'm getting a call from mark cuban for no good reason actually everyone likes the clippers
a whole lot and you haven't proven anything with this email i'm butting in for no reason
i am the mavericks baseball lastly to close out matthew's email baseball seems to be the least
divided as every socal baseball fan i've ever met as a dodgers fan with the exception of the
entirety of san diego loving the padres i would estimate that there are five angels fans left in
the state and that they are probably all depressed it's kind of funny though that all major leagues
seem to have a team here that very few people care about so yeah each of the each of the leagues that
are there they like the chargers the little brother the angels are the little brother and
then you kind of got the ducks there in their own pocket of fan bases it's interesting it's so
fascinating because i think if you're a billionaire you look at that los angeles market and you go
it's so big and there's so many fucking people and there's so much money right like it's not
that it's just big los angeles is fucking rich right look so i understand why i don't miss a
war zone i don't understand yeah yeah i know um i was told it's on fire in a war zone it's crazy
that the rams ever left in in business terms no disrespect to st louis but like it's insane
that was dumb business practice back in the day but back in the day those teams were millionaire
not billionaire play things and none of them made money anyway in the 80s uh and so i look at san
diego what a prime market you're never going to be worth what you'd be worth in vegas you're never
going to be worth what you'd be worth in san francisco you're never going to be worth what
you'd be worth if you were in los angeles or the greater los angeles area perhaps la slash anaheim
if you were the angels but you could make some serious cash if you're a rich guy and you're like
i want an nfl franchise i want an nhl franchise um and uh i want you know and there's a myriad
of other leagues going in right like the the uh the women's pro league is growing like a weed
uh in terms of soccer i'm sure the pwhl would love to be in california i know that they've got
another couple of franchises ready to go probably by next year uh like dude san diego to me is like
primo opportunity uh as long as you're cool with being 15th to 17th in franchise value you don't
you're never going to be new york miami chicago la and i would be okay with that but i don't know
what it's like to be a billionaire because i feel like you have to be extraordinarily competitive
who are you fooling who you're oh sorry well i do i do know yeah they all smoke yeah you know why
the rams had moved from la to i don't know uh st louis money uh they were at we talked about
they were at the la coliseum and that stadium was aging and old and st louis the city was like hey
we'll build you a new state-of-the-art stadium if you move your team to st louis and they said
yeah we'll do it because they couldn't get the same funding in la so they just moved there strictly
for the business but that is so shouted broke ass on the show we were talking about no no in the
80s you're talking about this was 90s nice yeah so you're talking about i think you're you might
thinking the other way yes yes eventually they leave from st louis back to la because uh stan
kronke can build his big billion dollar stadium in l.a it's all just money the previous owner of
the rams whoever that was that moved them from la to st louis it was an idiot because when you
think about yes you got your free arena in st louis and again no disrespect to the st louis
rams i was a big marshall falk fan when they won kurt warner rock that sort of thing but when you
moved you left billions of dollars in franchise value year over year on the table you fucking
idiot just for a free arena that's just insane to me it's los angeles it's how did the nfl then
not go hey well we don't have a team in la we better look after that and for years la just
didn't have a team yeah what do you mean you don't have a football team in los angeles 49ers which
isn't quite la they had the raiders to see san jose they had the raiders which isn't uh la and
then they had the chargers which is san diego yeah there's nothing in in la directly but it
was georgia frontier uh she owned i think i think that's how you pronounce her last name i'm not
sure but she owned the ram no way her name is georgia frontier or georgia georgia owned it
and then stan kronke got in there and started helping her with the franchise i think he bought
like 30 or whatever the joint of them moved it over and then i think when she passed he ended
up getting full ownership of it and then he sued the nfl because he wanted to build the stadium
and it was like billions of dollars in overrun costs and he's like i'm not gonna pay for any
of this because i already have a billion dollars and why would i spend my own money and there's a
whole bunch of drama wow but yeah he just chased they chased money in st louis because the city's
like we want a team here's a bunch of free shit in the stadium and it's like you better do this
again in 20 years and then they wouldn't do it again in 20 years they wouldn't give them another
stadium to stay in st louis and then he's like i can go make more money in la of course stadium
there and that's what he did so it's all these fucking stadium billionaires there is one more
thing i want to do before we end yeah yeah i sent you a tiktok okay and i just want you guys to to
watch this because i think it'll be funny uh and it'll be a nice way to wrap up the show now what
do we know about team social media accounts they are they can be fun they can be cheeky they can
be fun they can be robotic like the Leafs one was up until Shani left as soon as Shani left
the Leafs one was like hi I have a personality now oh here can I and the Raptors too they are
usually on someone's phone that is linked to their personal social media account and do you remember
the calgary up the calgary flames uh twitter account when uh edmonton signed sean horkoff
and the other guy who was the other guy and they and the wasn't uh alice hemski yeah it was like
calgary the calgary flames official account tweeted lol 5 million for those guys stupid
incredible because he obviously meant it from the other account now uh jesse i want you to play this
because it's tough being a team admin,
but the end of this is bizarre, okay?
And I just want to know what they were going for.
It's not ready to be played yet.
Okay.
Let me just know.
No, you're going to have to talk.
Oh, I have to keep talking.
But all right.
All right, ready?
You ready?
If this works.
