Starting point is 00:02:19 the show i just want to remind you that uh the long-awaited interview with philip ronick and alan walsh uh about the philip ronick negotiation i don't think this has ever been done before where you get to ask the agent all about the negotiation and the player's market value and why they signed in vancouver and all that stuff uh that's uh coming out tonight whoa yeah isn't it i don't know oh i thought it was coming out tonight i thought it would be news to me soon that's news to jesse so it'll be on yours i thought we'd agreed to sunday and maybe i was wrong well do you want me to read out what i sent yesterday about what did you or program yeah sure It's a good schedule.
Starting point is 00:03:14 So, okay, without knowing when Agent Provocateur is going up, but it's going up soon, here's what we've got confirmed or mostly confirmed. Sunday, that's today, new Steve Dangle podcast and new CJ show. Monday, live stream for Game 7 on STPN's YouTube channel and a cup check video after the game on my channel. Tuesday, new Steve Dangle podcast. Wednesday, we'll see.
Starting point is 00:03:39 well nothing scheduled but there might be news items thursday new steve dangle podcast wednesday is likely nothing but it's also the mystery box thursday new uh steve dangle podcast and likely new cj show it's just not confirmed yeah they're gonna be in vegas together yes so we can get a julian has a usb mic so if we just get another one we're gonna record them together does vegas sell mics yeah but like we could just send like down with one it's easier anyway we just gotta figure let's not get too sidetracked keep going friday uh live stream of the nhl draft night one on sdpn's youtube channel that's right here saturday uh we won't be streaming but we'll have uh draft day two uh videos reacting to everything that uh was done everything everyone
Starting point is 00:04:32 who was picked that'll be on the sdpn youtube channel and mine um and what i added was that doesn't include the agent provocateur episode we have coming with alan walsh and his client philip ronick and video reactions to big news when it breaks on july 1st i'm not sure if we've announced this yet on july 1st sdpn will have an all day uh we will have all day video coverage of breaking free agency news with a one hour live stream afterward at 5 p.m eastern and that's going to be our regular sdp monday show that's right doing it live for the first time ever we're doing it live let's fuck it right i'll write it and we'll do it live okay so who is sting that's my favorite play us out what does that even mean uh that's a good clip a hundred thousand
Starting point is 00:05:21 views on steve's video on uh friday night a hundred thousand which one the one that you uh you live streamed remember you did a live really yeah that's great uh and here's what's going to be interesting uh will there be more if the will more people watch this game if florida goes into it without their starting goaltender because this morning he's not on the ice oh my god you know what would be so ironic is if the panthers lose the cup making the same mistake the bruins who they beat did last year with holding on to their goalie for too long and then making the switch unless he earnestly got hurt in game six um the fall the play has fallen off a cliff well has it like i've thought i mean the oilers have been scoring banger goals i guess and you know
Starting point is 00:06:17 he was great through the first half of the game you you just you took away your point in like a sentence what how they did it because i don't think they made a mistake because i don't think it was bobroski's fault that they lost three games well no what's the mistake i'm talking through it though i'm talking through it like because people have been asking me uh like since game four they're like is he hurt and i'm like i don't think so no like uh like i didn't think he was the reason they were losing games yeah i know he got pumped uh eight one i know he didn't allow all eight um but if it turns out that they held on to him like no matter how those games shook out uh you have an injured Bobrovsky or a healthy Anthony Stollers who's been great for you all
Starting point is 00:07:03 year I don't think Stollers wins any of those three games no no no does he give you a better shot no probably not no I don't think goaltending was has been the issue no no well like like the the henry goal from i think it was game six for example um i'm looking at it and i'm like man you know would you love a save there and i'm like dude it goes off the bar you hear it right beautiful like half these goals are breakaways or two-on-ones or absolute piss missiles the one goal you think about and you're like oh that's on bobrovsky is the one where he's uh gets it was it banked off of him and it goes in i think it was the mcdavid bank and then somebody finishes off oh yeah that was that was in game five my memory doesn't isn't great but um that's like
Starting point is 00:07:49 i think about like oh there's one goal there but that one goal is also not winning you any of those three games no but they're now they're getting outscored i think last 21 goals the oilers have 17 of them the panthers haven't held a lead since game three that's rough since the game ended where they won that they almost choked on yeah they haven't held a lead since then the last time the panthers scored a goal that gave them a lead we were in boston pizza in stovall yeah that was a while ago it was over wasn't that over a week ago eight days nine about a week and a half yeah like we watched that live with everyone that was the never in my life would i have predicted yep that's the last time they would lead this series potentially ever yeah
Starting point is 00:08:30 yeah it's insane and and yeah and you're right i think that goaltending is not the reason that they they lost the game uh remember that they went 31 minutes and 55 seconds without a shot from their forward the florida panthers did in game six according to michael russo they were visibly rattled i mean yeah and uh i think that is a first i don't think we've ever seen this panthers team visibly rattled about anything no i've uh i mean the oilers have let's think about it uh you go into game four and you have a chance to win the cup and you don't win it and we were talking about that i'm like okay well there's one team that's completely fighting for their lives and they don't want to be swept for the first time since 1998 um and there's a team that's like
Starting point is 00:09:18 we got four cracks at this four they have four chances all we gotta do all we gotta do is not lose four straight we got this crazy yeah like we could we could do this our name's already on the up and then the doubt creeps in more yeah more and more and then andrew raycroft nailed it on twitter he's like that flight from edmonton to florida for the florida panthers is the worst flight in the history of the league oh yeah those guys dude so now all the pressure is on floor did they bring their family up by the way for game six was there any reports on that i assume they did yeah they've been like flying back and forth and everything and like the reason um i didn't think this was possible on florida's end is because you said we hadn't seen florida look
Starting point is 00:10:08 this rattled before we have last year against the vegas golden night wow yeah when they got absolutely smoked and i thought those lessons from there carry through for the florida panthers through this playoffs and i thought that was a lot of the reason they were in the position they were was because they they were there last year you know they get they went through the finals they got pumped and they come back this year with a vengeance and they're in the finals again and we're not gonna make that same mistake because it's so hard to get to the stanley cup final incredibly hard it's literally impossible to win the stanley cup and we're here two years in a row and we're one game away we're gonna win one of these and i didn't think it'd be possible and it
Starting point is 00:10:45 feels like a miracle that we're sitting here uh 24 hours from game seven i yeah we're talking about the panthers end of this like we'll talk about the yeah we'll get unbelievable cinderella story uh of the oilers the the difference last year i thought with the panthers is they were never really in it like it very quickly was like all right this is vegas's series and panthers might squeak one and kachuk is very obviously like half dead and then we find out afterward actually he was three quarters dead um and so that wasn't surprising this one we watched them go up three nothing we watched Edmonton not be able to do a damn thing and without any major injury as well by the way exactly exact well so this was the interesting thing because it gets
Starting point is 00:11:31 lost in all the comeback talk think all the dirty crap from the first three games most of it most of it was going one way and it wasn't going against Edmonton Bennett popped McDavid real good that one time that was bad uh and bouchard got strangled by aaron eckblad something i've never seen before who got bennett wasn't it kane yes kane yeah got bennett yes and he has been just like his team way less effective fogel got lusterina and he has been actually not that bad but less effective um a number of panthers got got bad in those first three games and i mean if you're the panthers you take that trade every single time so wait you mean to tell me i gotta take a few dirty hits and get three wins three nothing in the series i'll take that yeah but uh
Starting point is 00:12:34 they have faded and faded and faded and the oilers have chipped away chipped away chipped away and all of a sudden it's starting to look like the panthers emptied the tank like they emptied the tank on those first three games like the oilers have made a lot of adjustments um the panthers aren't able to do a damn thing in the neutral zone anymore um they've completely flipped florida's style on their head like they florida can't get out of their own zone uh edmonton is just nope here you go that oh thanks for the puck there you go oh thanks for the puck there you go And they're just, I never thought Edmonton would be able to park the bus the way they do these days. And they're doing it masterfully.
Starting point is 00:13:20 They're overwhelming the Panthers. The second they get the puck, it's like they're already out of time. They ran out of time before they even got the puck. I've never seen, this is the strangest turning of the tide I've ever seen in a series ever. the only thing i can compare it to um that i remember watching closely because i didn't watch 2010 uh flyers bruins closely um it reminds me of 2011 canucks blackhawks okay and what changed the tide there and no one really remembers this because the canucks won yeah you know they choked on a three game lead and they choked on a lead in game seven i'm pretty sure and it goes to
Starting point is 00:14:07 overtime and they end up winning so no one no one cares yeah no one cares what they choked on they won but if i'm not mistaken they were up three nothing and then game four dave boland comes back and that shut everything down it the canucks had no answer for dave boland he was a defensive stalwart center he's just a dick yeah like he was just uh you know his star shone so bright for such a short amount of time but that guy was the boogeyman for a few teams he really was even when he wasn't scoring um and you just saw the Canucks very obviously take on an air of not again oh no we're gonna we're gonna lose to this freaking team again and with the panthers it's i don't know if it's not again because this didn't really happen to them last year right
Starting point is 00:15:03 they they lost in the cup final but like they got they got dominated right they weren't really in it vegas was clearly the i mean frig go look at the deciding game what was it nine three they got killed they got that was one of the most anti-climatic clinching games ever it took the longest not because it went to overtime but many goals all the damn goal horns yep um this is now a panthers team you know what a few people said during the stream what they say are the panthers the new leafs and i've never quite been in this position where i was like guys even the leafs have never choked like this well the panthers still haven't yet they haven't yet the league also haven't had the opportunity no they haven't like i know that it's so what do you want their
Starting point is 00:15:56 payroll what is this yeah but it's it's so like besides the point no no here's the yeah but people are asking about it they're like well there's the four one and the three one and okay this is three nothing it's happened a handful of times ever it's happened in the stanley cup final successfully once unsuccessfully once um but if the panthers blow this if edmonton wins this cup it's maybe the greatest cup edmonton's ever won save for you know they won a cup without gretzky which i'm sure at the time they probably thought might have been impossible but you come back from three nothing if you're the panthers you choke on that this is probably the biggest choke in the history of the sport i would think so i think i don't even think there's
Starting point is 00:16:49 anything there's no there's no question this is the if this if the panthers collapse here this is the greatest collapse we've seen in nhl history yeah yeah because like the other two times it happened in modern history the i like do count the island i guess the islanders so three times 70 what was it five seven yeah 74 75 somewhere around there uh so three times in recent history um those weren't in the finals three times in non-original six history yeah like those weren't in the finals so i think like this one being on this stage and seeing how dominant the panthers were throughout the first three rounds and when we look back on this series i think we'll look at it as the panthers weren't good in game one the it was bobroski who was good he's a part of the
Starting point is 00:17:33 team so you can say that he saved their their rear end there and then game two they were good and then game three that was edmonton's game edmonton had it florida was begging for edmonton to win that game midway through that second period from the second period on of game three edmonton is dominated so we look at this as like florida really was good in a game and a half you know yeah but that that at the time was half yeah that was half the series so to me that's a coin flip and they really lucked out on the coin flip but it's how we got to this point you know we shouldn't be as surprised as we are that edmonton's been able to run off three games in a row because they've been they've been really good and they've been so streaky this whole season all
Starting point is 00:18:20 they've done is lose a couple games and then go on runs we remember they were on the verge of breaking the all-time win streak yeah that was this is what this team does they play streaky hockey and they've been able to ride at these whole playoffs and in this series in particular and Adam you're right it's the greatest choke job ever in NHL history if if yeah if they lose yeah because no one's gonna care if
Starting point is 00:18:41 they win yeah no one will be erased from the histories no one will give a damn and and and if you're an oiler fan you have to know that you'll be the only ones going away with well we almost got it no like it you're not it's not gonna feel great no
Starting point is 00:18:56 right yeah I mean in their defense like 2006 they don't really talk about how they almost had them there was an article i saw that was like oh you know oilers had uh you know just like in 2006 the oilers had all the momentum heading into game seven the fuck do you mean just like 2006 this hasn't happened since 1945 just like 2006 2006 was nothing like this no what are you talking about this is one of the most miraculous things i've ever seen and i just wish it were a little more dramatic because eight one all right incinerated them cool you get to respawn like a video game for game five you win that one was a little closer this this one game six that wasn't close not really hold on though not really hold
Starting point is 00:19:52 on that on that point i want to talk to you we had this right off the top about manscaped right the manscaped ad right off the top ball people don't hear that because there are sdp vip ad free subscribers there you go and they don't know what you're talking about adam i want to talk about having some fucking balls i want to i want to i want to i want some guts some whatever some cojones whatever you want to call it huevos chris knobloch rookie coach i'm not sure if it's being a rookie coach and and not knowing that you shouldn't do what he did or you shouldn't take that kind of a risk in the position that you're in but chris knoblock when that game was two one took the biggest risk of the night and and fought that uh that offside call and that nobody's
Starting point is 00:20:43 talking about that that was about as close as you can get and the reason i say a more conservative coach wouldn't have done that is because not only you could lose this and then you're down a man and then they are on a on a power play for two minutes so it was two nothing and then panther scores and so you you would give them the opportunity to tie it up within the first two minutes of the second period yeah oh like 90 seconds like it was insane that's crazy yeah and and so and i you know obviously we saw the replay over and over and over again but i have to say for a rookie coach to make a call like that not not enough is being made of that that was all balls two calls because he called the time out oh they could review it longer uh that's the video
Starting point is 00:21:31 team too because he's like i don't know well how could he that's the other thing i'm so glad teams have video teams now because how could a coach possibly know oh how could a coach possibly know and a coach who was lesser prepared without a video team might make the wrong call and go you know what let's just take our lumps and try to get some something back he might not have even seen it in real time i didn't i didn't see it well even even on the replay he wouldn't have you just can't tell it's just really hard no when i was like oh what are they reviewing and remember you got to overturn the call so there's got to be conclusive evidence that the call on the ice was wrong and that that is it was about as close as it could get the how much of the puck was in the
Starting point is 00:22:13 zone 80 percent yeah dude as oh it's a hairline and like i'm trying to think of a goal coming back because of a player taking the puck in the way for hagi did like he's dragging it across the blue line get it over land like just well we see the least do that all the time no at least kill me on oh not like so many bad offsides because of that well who was he drafted by well maybe you go you learned it's a good can't take the leaf out of the kid um unless you're hyman then you can take all the leaf out and be like you're a good playoff performer but um no that was uh it was the right call and i missed paul maurice's post game did he say that he wouldn't have challenged it yeah yeah that's what i'm saying you would have been wrong there
Starting point is 00:23:01 paul it was the right call uh we could play that if you want i would know because i would like to see it i was a little preoccupied this weekend the pregame one though before we play this i want a stat i was looking at for why this was the easiest decision ever for chris okay i'm ready i'm ready because i was i was on nhl.com and i'm sorting sorting all the the stats there and if you if you sort by minimum 15 games played in a playoff round so the team had to have gone at least 15 games deep into a playoff uh stanley cup final play or stanley cup playoffs um and you look at penalty kill percentage the edmonton oilers sit number one at 94 percent who gives a shit if you lose that yeah yeah that's right they've allowed one goal you have no they've allowed uh four now
Starting point is 00:23:55 oh it's a four okay i think it's 62 of 67 94.1 percent who cares if you lose the challenge you have literally the greatest as when stats were counted for penalty kills as of that moment the greatest playoff penalty kill in the history of the sport there was a time that's no hyperbole they're number one at 94.1 there was a time during the show where i think it was on home ice uh 55 of every 100 uh penalties were killed like 45 of the time something like that the puck was gonna end up in their net that's insane so you're like you can't play hockey that way so you're saying jesse that whether he challenges it or he doesn't it's immaterial two minutes on the penalty kill oh man but there's momentum maddie bring this up this is the this is the chart i
Starting point is 00:24:47 just filled through the filters minimum 14 games uh the team played that playoffs uh you sort by penalty kill percentage the 23 24 edmonton oilers 94.1 they are two percent better than the 99 2000 new jersey devils who are 92.5 era devils now yeah now incredible stuff oilers cup final well this is all 15 games played in the playoffs right total okay i was about to be like look at all these teams and how far they went but you're actually arranging it by steve you idiot no all these teams went to at least at least final 15 games yeah they played yeah wow wow well you could know you could have lost in the second second yeah no you would have went to the yeah yeah yeah never mind anyways um so chris knobloch with that that team that you have the penalty that you have you
Starting point is 00:25:38 have supreme confidence you have the cojones the penalty kill gives him the balls to make a decision like that there's no fear after that point you know you're like who cares if i lose this i got these guys uh the four guys out there and then they'll they'll kill this if i lose it so see how many people are involved in that decision so there's the coach he's got to call the timeout there's the video staff who's who's got to go through it and make sure that they got the right call and there's the assistant coach who runs the penalty kill unit and there's the players on the penalty kill unit all of that goes into should we challenge this for offside all of that it's a team effort like top to bottom for this team now i gotta see paul murray's filling his diaper here
Starting point is 00:26:22 yeah i can't i don't want to believe that paul murray said what people are telling me he said because that's preposterous unless he's kidding here's paul murray's talking about the cia i'll uh understand the emotion in in the moment cj cj asked this question that went viral hey i'll uh understand the emotion in in the moment but i'm wondering now what you thought of the offside review and did they get the call right i have no idea uh it may well have been offside the alliance person informed me um that it was the last clip that they got where they made the decision that it shows it's offside i don't have those so the video that i got at my bench um so i was upset after the call based on what i see at my feet and what my video person looks at
Starting point is 00:27:12 there was no way I would have challenged that if it was reversed. There was no way I thought you could conclusively say that was offside. Okay. I don't know what the Oilers get. I don't know what the league gets. I just know that when I would have had to have challenged that
Starting point is 00:27:29 based on what I saw, I would not have challenged. I'm not saying it's not offside. Okay. We'll get still frames. We'll bring in the CIA and figure it out. There you go. We have to get that in there. I would have made that call.
Starting point is 00:27:43 I would not have challenged. That's my point. That's my point. My original point is that I don't think a veteran coach makes that challenge. I don't think they do. I think they go, you know what? Let's just leave it. They got momentum.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Let's move on. And that's why I freaking love the guts here, man. He's got a legitimate gripe, though. He's not saying they got the call wrong. He's also not saying they got it right. But he has not seen it. um he hasn't had the time to see it um his gripe is they got the call right because they have the footage why don't i have it is it a bit of sour grapes yeah your team just yeah you just lost
Starting point is 00:28:23 third straight game yeah the verge of the greatest choke job in history the way it was conveyed to me is he was like well i wouldn't have done it like like as a noble thing like well i would have had more integrity the integrity is a sport half size isn't for a millimeter yeah but no like i i fully understood what he was saying there that's whoever told me that yesterday i can't remember who it was how dare you you made it sound like prison rules paul was a bad guy probably drew i honestly you know what probably was it might have been i can't look this up there was a stat floating around and i haven't been able to verify it uh because i forgot to look it up but but there was some All right, now say it into a microphone.
Starting point is 00:29:03 No, I'm saying it. No, this is an easy one. Short-handed goals. Apparently, the Leafs are somewhat close to... They allowed almost as many short-handed goals as the Oilers have all playoffs. And at one point, people were saying that the Oilers have still allowed less goals
Starting point is 00:29:16 on the power play than the Leafs have. But I don't know if that's... It's hard to look it up because they don't allow power play. It's believable, though. It's believable. Not as like, oh, I assume the Leafs are garbage. It's just...
Starting point is 00:29:27 Edmonton's that crazy. Four goals in four rounds? well you don't get knocked out of the playoffs first round by being good oh i wish people would get that through their head it's it is important to remind you that oh no no jesse we're right there important to remind you too that the uh taking crazy the toronto maple leaves had a four percent power play jesus four percent oh my god four percent no run it back run it back with all the primary pieces of the top unit as well cj really fanned the flames of yeah nation on twitter over the weekend when he talked about how the leafs must
Starting point is 00:30:04 regret uh letting zach hyman go and how that's a big regret from uh the organization yeah a lot of people uh angered steve dangle when they came back to hey we don't really regret this also the team's great right now so what are you talking about let's run it back i uh um not not to make it about the leafs it's just say you don't watch the playoffs after the leafs are out yeah like say you don't watch it's okay i don't have to i uh i almost got into it with someone yesterday and i'm like i'm i think i'm done justifying this take um no that's enough no you justify it to me they keep losing you justify it to me why they should run this back yeah i think that's fair well i'm done pitching this now dude you lose seven out of eight series it's a foregone conclusion
Starting point is 00:30:54 that you're breaking it up unless you give me a good reason why they shouldn't cj is right in us in in this in this tweet because yeah i don't think an organization does recover from losing a guy like like zach hyman but at the time that contract seemed pricey and and i think what cj is saying too more than the 50 something goals because i don't think anybody that told you when zach hyman left the leafs that he was going to get 50 goals would have been somebody that it's like okay you're not a serious person i believe 30 was possible right yeah max 35 maybe no it's zach yeah uh uh-huh uh-huh uh but i think more than that and this is where zach hyman uh gets a lot of credit in the nhl but they don't talk about it a lot like in nhl circles but they
Starting point is 00:31:41 don't talk about it a lot media side is what he brings to a team generally the work ethic everybody loves them real team like there are things about zach hyman that are you know everybody's got that guy on the team that everybody loves like there's he's the glue guy dude and everybody loves zach everybody loves this guy did you see did you see him miked up on the oilers bench cheering on connor brown's breakaway goal yes i was just like just ended already he was known for from the time he was in kindergarten having an otherworldly work ethic like his kindergarten teachers told said this and then and on top of that uh he happens just to be a great guy to read the tweet from cj since we're referencing it uh looking back
Starting point is 00:32:26 i'm not sure the leafs have ever made a bigger mistake than letting zach hyman walk away that's an all-timer the organization never recovers from and nobody could have called that at the time but i think he's right and it doesn't mean that it doesn't mean you wouldn't go back and make the same decision with the same information and oh that's yeah the same information i think everybody probably does what the leafs did it's probably it's both sides of the coin you do this but it was also a mistake yes you know absolutely are you allowed to do that Are you allowed to have both sides of your mouth talking about this issue? I think you're allowed to say, yeah, that really sucks,
Starting point is 00:33:04 and they screwed that up. Secondly, what intelligent general manager would have given him that contract at that time? Ken Holland. Ken Holland. Yeah, Ken Holland, who's known for great contracts. I think he had a career-high 21 goals at that point. No, because he had the 34-1 game in Edmonton, right?
Starting point is 00:33:24 Oh, yeah. No, I think it's career-high 21. yeah but he didn't play a full season yeah it was in so if you do it like goals 18 19 71 games 21 goals but if you do the goals per game the uh 21 and 51 looks really good in the um uh 1920 season but then he had the next year where he had 15 and 43 he right but that's that's a 30 goal pace yeah yeah 30 goal pace uh by the way thanks uh shout out to friggin uh who was it edler who uh need him and ruined all that oh yeah yeah that's that's two straight years in 1920 and 2021 where he's on a 30 goal pace uh and then the seasons are both the short shortened season yeah for him also his
Starting point is 00:34:05 plus minus stats even though we don't really care about them are kind of fucking good things happen when he's on the damn ice he's a good player goofy they're exceptional we've always known this it's so frustrating and he's doing it in edmonton with about the same ice time as he got in toronto about 19 minutes 30 seconds a night it's it's crazy and I think I so I think in that regard I think you go back I think most general managers do what Kyle Dubas did because here's the deal would they have wanted to keep Zach Hyman yes could they know why because they had the four massive contracts the time for this team to win and this is why I again I keep going back to you they got to move on the time to be for this team to win was 1920 and 21 that was when the Leafs window was what
Starting point is 00:34:48 What happened those years? First round and out. First round and out. And I think, let me look it up, first round and out. Actually, one of those years, they didn't even make the playoffs. Yeah, the Columbus series doesn't count. They didn't even make the playoffs that year. They call it the postseason.
Starting point is 00:35:03 It's not. It was a play-in round. You lost. Stop. Anyone who wants to keep this core together, genuinely from the bottom of my heart, just... Maybe Zach Hyman was the member of the core we didn't realize we had. I want to bring them in and give them a gentle but sincere hug.
Starting point is 00:35:18 and just be like i help me understand this do you help me understand why you want this team to do this to you again i think they're being bad do you buy into the perspective that the team has had very successful regular seasons yeah and some people just enjoy watching a very good team you know you win 50 or whatever how many games you put up 105 points yeah nhl they're winning around 50 games a year really good 105 points 110 points whatever it's a great team they're fun they go to the playoffs they lose ah that's disappointing but you just enjoy watching hockey and you got a decent team you know those what do you say to those fans what i would say is those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it and i'm old enough to remember when
Starting point is 00:36:05 the teacher's pension plan which used to own the leafs was always ripped on and accused of keeping the leafs just good enough to make the playoffs win around maybe two get us uh you know get all the little piggies lining up to the trough and eating their slop and then they don't win a cup again and then they come back next year with more expensive beer and hot dogs and season tickets and merch and everything oh and oh you forgot the time where they wrote a note to the fans the new york rangers were not the first team to do i don't remember that the leafs wrote a note to the fans how about the time they had a parade for losing in the third round in 93 did they you bet your ass they did okay well that was very that was far that was that was a long time ago that was like
Starting point is 00:36:51 steve stavro era that's creepy well and that's not my era either i was five years old for that but i read up on history guys like this has happened several times over the course of the where they've been accused of being good enough don't be afraid to try to be bad if if the if where you might end up is great yeah yep if you want to stay it good that's on you you want to stay it okay they're okay you lose in the first round like 16 teams miss the playoffs and then there's eight teams who get knocked out in the first round and you are somewhere between the bottom and the top of those eight teams you'll yeah that's okay good for you you're on the good side of okay you're on the positive side of okay you're in the green so what you're saying is that's
Starting point is 00:37:47 not for you no it's not but i'm tired of bringing home c pluses and b minuses but steve what if they trade marner and things change you tried so that's yeah no no and all i said you see what i said there things change i think there's a lot of it comes down to well at least we have this at least we have this at least we think we have a chance it worked for us it's a mirage though it's a mirage so the idea that they have a chance going into any first round at this point you guys have got to be serious right like like they don't will they and if they do they're going to get killed in the second we'll just keep losing zach hyman's and we'll keep losing trevor moore's and we'll keep losing half the damn oilers and we'll keep uh uh finding mason marchment
Starting point is 00:38:35 signing him to a deal teaching the dude like half how to skate like yeah he he was a talented raw player with poor skating they they taught him everything spent thousands and thousands of dollars over years of uh development and then went here you go divisional rival here's a perfectly good player for you. And now he's making millions of dollars in Dallas. Justin Brezzo, we're going to scout this kid. We're going to roll out the red carpet. Everyone wants this kid. Everyone wants this kid. Six foot five. He's got over 60 goals in the OHL. Everyone wants this kid. And we won the bid. We won the bid without even having to give him an NHL contract. That's how good we are. where the Toronto goddamn Maple Leafs.
Starting point is 00:39:24 And we're going to spend years and thousands of dollars and time with our experts and resource experts who we painstakingly took from the farthest corners of the world because we have the best team hockey can buy. Best people hockey can buy. And we're going to teach this guy, here's how you be 6'5 and score 60 goals, but also move and um here divisional rival you go ahead and take him because we just let him walk
Starting point is 00:39:57 this is just gonna keep happening well i i don't think it will but uh let's get back to no you don't think it will i don't think based on what because you're gonna make a trade because they're gonna make a trade so it's not gonna continue well martyr's gone guys i don't know how many times i need to say it the guy they're moving on they got they got a week you're saying that very definitively i think i think it's i think it's over i really believe i thought shanahan truly believe it and he's not you got up this morning it was sunday morning what was the first thing you drank jesse blake it matches your shirt in color oh yeah ag1 wilson he didn't know ag1 he drank tennis balls no he drank that and why jesse because of the prebiotics the probiotics
Starting point is 00:40:39 the uh the b vitamins uh the magnesium the folate the vitamin c which is me don't know what any of those words mean me just know that i get all my nutrients through ag1 i i'm i'm stupid like i don't know what's going on how far did you get in science all i as soon as you could drop science i drop it i'm not good at science all i know is if i drink ag1 it's like the best multivitamin you could take ever because i just get all the nutrients and vitamins that i need for the day I don't know all the science behind it and all that stuff. Starting point is 00:42:54 who's still in this right i had oilers in six adam had oilers in seven steve had panthers in six yeah damn so damn damn damn now we make the the final game prediction because we got to get it Nah. I need to know. What do you mean, nah? I've been so bad at predictions these playoffs. That doesn't matter. Who cares?
Starting point is 00:43:14 You know who's going to win? The referees. Yeah. Tomorrow night's going to be a big ref night. Jesse. A linesman's going to make a bad call from the other end of the ice. He's going to fake drop the puck a lot. He's going to be like, everybody's watching.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Watch me kick this guy in the face-off circle. Mom and dad. Look, mom and dad. Fake drop of the puck, mom and dad. Look, look. It's me. All right. No, wait.
Starting point is 00:43:35 this okay let's make a prediction on this before we do a final score how many fake drops well what's gonna happen in terms of penalties and i'm not gonna do an over under for penalties i'm gonna give you two options because there are only two options give it to me number one both teams get exactly one power play in the first period number two one team gets one power play in the first period the other team gets one power play in the second period there will be no third period penalties i think that's i think that's the most likely the second one yeah okay so you're on the side of one in the second period one in the first yep jesse what do you got i think we get a third period power play you are nuts you're out of your mind you know why because i was watching the steve
Starting point is 00:44:25 dangle stream i was in there for okay all right two hours and whatever and there's one point where you said there's going to be no more penalties and then somebody on the ice took a dumb penalty that was so egregious the ref had to call it was it stendland i think i there was uh in the third period there's derrick ryan heinz high sticking stendland interference on dry sidle and then a couple misconducts at the very end so there's two power plays in that third period these two teams i mean i don't want to discredit what they've how they've gotten here they're violent these two teams are filled with guys who take dumb penalties yes and they've done it consistently these playoffs whether it's i'm not going to throw guys under the bus somebody on the team
Starting point is 00:45:11 somebody on these sides is going to take i think a third period penalty that's going to be so bad the ref has to call it and they're going to hate themselves for having to call it because no ref wants to call a third period game seven stan like a final power play so there you go okay that's my prediction jesse do me a favor yeah can you go the the last game seven we got was 2019 blues bruins forget the final score i don't no one cares about any of that i want to know time right no no the uh the blue spanked him what's the last overtime game seven because we had one it was like 19 wait overtime game seven in the final it was like in the 50s okay maybe i'm just thinking about cup clinching overtime uh cup clinching i'm distracting good continue your
Starting point is 00:46:01 point well anyway uh yeah game seven overtime or sorry game seven stanley cup final last one was 2019 blues bruins i want to know how the penalties shook out in that game you're gonna laugh oh no You're going to laugh. No way. It was just one. Colton Pareko. You bum. Oh, and it was over the glass.
Starting point is 00:46:25 It was a call that they had to call. It wasn't an infraction on another player. Colton Pareko at 7.57 of the first period was called for an over the glass penalty, a delay of game penalty, and he got two minutes. and that was the only penalty they called because no infraction on the ice took place in the rest of the game, guys, right? Like, nobody committed a penalty on another player.
Starting point is 00:46:53 Steve, you nailed this. I nailed it. Now I'm trying to think of the last one. Wow. What was the last? The last game seven in the cup final before that, I think, was 2011. With Canucks, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Canucks and Bruins. Yeah. Look it up. Let me check this. Look it up. You're not calling anything, Jesse. what i will die on this hill they're not calling anything what was the last infraction on a player in a game seven of a stanley that's a good question let's see here's the deal though i think
Starting point is 00:47:22 that these you know you go back all the way to 2011 this was less of a concern back then we hadn't figured it out quite yet what do you mean well because back you know we really didn't talk about oh like the refereeing in the playoffs no uh until it was like oh wow this is really bad and and i think there was a definitive change somewhere around 2015 2016 where it really did become about game management that to me is where it really kicked into overdrive people yelled at their tvs for years and years and then twitter came and you could see replays and you could see replays so that's why in 2011 i think the refs wouldn't because because one of the things that dave jackson talks about a lot is well the refs had to be brave to make a call like that no and
Starting point is 00:48:04 and where i've seen him tweet that and it's like it's not i'm not taking shots at dave what i'm saying is these guys legitimately are worried about something and that's something they're worried about is i make a call and it decides the game and i wear the horns forever sure which is your job it's your job exactly which is why it's easier yeah you know it's like those people that can never make a decision it's like how about i just don't make a decision what if i don't put my skates on it's the last day of school um and you guys play the fucking game and i'll put my hand up a few times what do you want to eat i don't know what do you want you know what i just want to starve like so i bet you i bet game 7 2011 yeah i bet there were a couple penalties
Starting point is 00:48:43 call and i bet they were legitimate because it was less of a thing back then there was less quote-unquote at stake less social media june 15th 2011 the stanley cup final game 7 boston one for nothing in that game we had three penalties milan lucic actually i start from the the top second period boston's the day no char was called for interference so 1607 of the second period so 36 minutes into the game yep first infraction third period yannick hansen was called for interference and then at 11 34 the most recent penalty called for an infraction on another player milan lucic was called for hooking at 11 34 of the third period game seven what was the score when that penalty was called against the bruins because that's important uh scroll it was three
Starting point is 00:49:37 nothing it was yeah three nothing three nothing you're a little braver making that call uh because it's three nothing adam you know what screwed it up for refs because for years and years we yelled at our tvs what screwed it up for refs was not necessarily the dawn of social media what screwed it up for refs was proof now we have proof the quickest most easily accessible proof in the history of sports that's why we think they're bad the gif is uh is their worst nightmare uh you think about when twitter switched from twitpick and y frog to having a native player that was right on the screen so you could see the drop down video yep people were complaining about it at the time i don't want twitter to become my youtube i remember people used to say
Starting point is 00:50:32 that and i'd be like you just wait you're gonna like the video thing and here we are liking it Here we are. It's it's those videos in real time. It's the tic-tac-toe Mars that are grabbing every clip from every game and throwing them up and whatever. That is the stuff that drives people crazy now. And you see here's the thing. You can see it as many times you want. You might see that replay once if you only had access to the broadcast.
Starting point is 00:50:54 Here's them being wrong. Here's them being wrong from the side. And you don't even have to watch the game to go back. Man, that's wrong. Yeah. Look at that. Right straight to my phone. there will be there will be two penalties called one in the first one in the second from from a
Starting point is 00:51:08 phone up into space and down onto my phone again here it is being wrong forever i wish i could bet on this penalties i would throw i would throw five bucks on tomorrow night that we get a third period penalty wow yeah that's that if i if that was an option that somebody allowed me to bet on i throw five bucks on that game game seven leaves bruins like that's a game seven how many penalties were there dude you want to keep playing the game no we don't gotta keep playing it but like stanley cup final game seven this is the final boss of legal murder uh you can do whatever you want um and there will be one i'm my final bet yeah one call in the first for one team one call in the second for another team that's it okay so that's you're locking it in yes can i put an
Starting point is 00:52:06 asterisk no no no no no no bullshit at the end of the game where they take them both yeah that doesn't count okay no i we i laughed at you too okay yeah yes that's a good asterisk yeah asterisk they do some bullshit and they take them both which doesn't result in a penalty for any or power play for anyone that doesn't count at the end of game six there was two misconducts called like those we're not counting those yeah no 100% agreed
Starting point is 00:52:34 Adam what is your final prediction on when the penalties are doled out in game seven penalty in the first and it will be against the Oilers oh you're going real specific it'll go against the Oilers and it'll be some dumb thing that like Fogle or
Starting point is 00:52:50 Holloway end up getting their stick in somewhere stupid and that's what it'll end up being that or mcleod it'll be one of those because you're not going to call connor mcdavid you're not going to call leon bryce you're dumping and then and then it's going to be uh and then for florida it's going to be like kulikov and it's going to be yeah something stupid i know i think i don't i think it'll be like you're talking like infractions it'd be like a legit like or like a you know he tapped his tried to lift his stick and tapped his hands so it's a you know it's all what do they call that they call that like a slashing even though when you're going up uh like interference tripping like it's weird sometimes it ends up as
Starting point is 00:53:26 a high stick yeah which is bizarre flashing hooking high stick it'll be one of those stick infraction sticky sticky thing this tripping this is why i remember 2012 uh adam henrique was in this series this was the last time that a team forced game six after being down three nothing the kings and devils steve bernier of the devils hit one of the kings i don't remember who from behind in the first period and he got five in a game and like i remember like it was early days of twitter but like one of the arguments was like okay but they're breathing like dude this is an elimination game in the stanley cup final you're kicking someone out five in a game in the first period yeah are you serious that's like that fogel one where they where they called uh the
Starting point is 00:54:12 penalty on loose to read and i'm like well it is game one yeah game seven you can take a guy's head half off oh yeah i think you'll be a okay absolutely absolutely so my prediction your prediction i also get to play in the game uh is four total penalties i think at least one of them comes in the third period okay all right four total penalties now are they tied two two or or the 3-1 on this? Oh, that's a good question. I think it'll be 2-2. I think they'll even it up.
Starting point is 00:54:47 Yeah, 2-2. But I think one of these teams... What period gets a double penalty call? The second. Okay. Yeah. So 1-2-1. 1-2-1.
Starting point is 00:54:57 I like that we're breaking this down on this level, by the way. I'm still going to ask you guys, give me your prediction. Team that wins and the score they win it by. Who wins the cup, guys? It's down to the last game.
Starting point is 00:55:07 Jesse and Steve, sticking with mine i'll go first because i'm i'm the uh the one that's actually on track with the seven game prediction oilers i think they win and i think they win four three just like the games they'll win four three in the series like they win four three in the game that's what i think mm-hmm oilers three two game winner his 71st of the season scored by number 18 zach hyman oh i love that i don't the better if it's cc but okay the total goals thing is very funny yeah i called it zach hyman yeah zach hyman having as much or more goals than matthews this year it's funny it's funny and i'll give zach hyman the edge his goals the back half of his
Starting point is 00:55:57 goals happened at a more important time is it like playoff suspensions where goals are times two you know yeah a one game suspension is really a two game I think if you could perform in the playoff to me it it does matter more goals matter more so if you're if they are tied give the edge to Hyman if this is a stat it's not but you know it's fun anyway anyway so is it Jesse give us your prediction I picked Edmonton to start the series okay I flipped over to Florida after they went up three nothing because I thought that was hey this thing's gonna be over any day now this is very obvious but i will pick the result i want to see and my original pick of the edmonton oilers i think they get it done tomorrow night and we get the greatest choke job in nhl history and the most
Starting point is 00:56:45 dramatic comeback because we're focusing on the choke but it's also the greatest comeback in nhl history and that'll just cement mcdavid's legacy like put him in the hall of fame on tuesday if you want i think the induction ceremony oh yeah is on tuesday right put him there build his bust right now a thousand points next season yeah like it's gonna be unbelievable to if this thing gets done so i'm gonna say a four one edmonton victory oh wow okay there's something i want to spend a little bit of time on and and i'll i'll i'll give you some time to to pull this up can you pull up the 2010 series between the bruins and flyers that would be the eastern conference final no uh semi semi semi final uh the reason i bring this up i don't think i don't know if
Starting point is 00:57:35 panthers fans know exactly what they're up against here here's what they're up against they win the game they win the stanley cup no one remembers this this choke no one remembers uh the cinderella the story um it is just we won because we should have won hooray fu we are on the cup forever here's our first ever cup we're gonna have a boat parade and you can kiss our ass i gotta hear if what do you need if they lose with the biggest choke in nhl history i don't think they quite understand how hard it's going to be to erase it the bruins did this and it was still lower stakes but they did this in 2010 the bruins played against the philadelphia flyers the bruins won game one five four in overtime game two three two game three four one they're
Starting point is 00:58:37 gonna sweep this series game four goes to overtime flyers win at 5-4 okay it's okay we'll get them next time game five flyers win for nothing okay goes to game six flyers win 2-1 and then you see the flyers won 4-3 in game seven jesse can you click on the game because that's not it didn't play out where it was a dominant flyers performance so it's a cinderella story right well first period michael rider scores for the bruins on the power play oh my goodness four minutes later less than four minutes later luchit scores on the power play and then we're 14 minutes into the game the bruins are up three nothing ah ah the cinderella a story's dead except james van reams dyke scores his first of the playoffs before the end of the
Starting point is 00:59:33 first okay there's something to build on less than three minutes into the second scott hartnell scores less than halfway through the second danny briere scores he ties it and on the power play in the third simone gagne scores for the flyers they win in seven the bruins are humiliated jesse i'm gonna set this up can you look up the series the next year between the flyers and the bruins in 2011 yep so i might i don't remember what round that series was in the next year it was in the semi-final this is what the bruins had to do to erase it this is what the bruins had to do so that we didn't pick on them for this choke job forever forever okay the bruins take on the philadelphia flyers in 2011 the very next year they get their shot at redemption the
Starting point is 01:00:28 bruins won their first round series in seven okay second round they take on the flyers destroy them four game one seven three game two goes to overtime that's three two game three destroy them 5-1 in game four any chance of a cinderella repeat destroyed them 5-1 the bruins went to three game sevens this year three the one series where they didn't was their revenge series where they kicked the flyers heads in i'm no mathematician but they scored 20 goals in four games versus the Flyers three, two, that's five, six, seven. They outscored them 20 to seven in four games and then won the Stanley Cup. That's why no one remembers that choke job. That's why no one cares about that choke job. It is lost into the dusts of hockey
Starting point is 01:01:34 history that's the kind of thing the bro the panthers are gonna have to do to erase the yuck of this if the florida panthers go 16 and 0 during next year's playoffs that's no you're still gonna remember why like no if they went 16 and 0 you'll still be like maybe the first team to ever because they got their butt kicked in a year before you this wow this thing is the like i don't even know they'd still have to beat the oilers in the final yeah yeah there we go like i want to see them next year beat the oilers do you know what kind of heinous ingredients you have to put into this witch's brew to get rid of this evil yeah you have to win the cup next season next season and ideally you beat the oilers to do yeah like yeah which is what the bruins did yeah you can't you
Starting point is 01:02:23 can't better find an antidote for what ailed them we're gonna win the cup and we're gonna beat the shit out of the flyers along the route to doing it yeah yeah like the capitals like the penguins could always held it over them yeah but you didn't go through yes we did and they beat them in overtime and they go to the cup final and they win it oh oh not only two birds one stone we beat our boogeyman and won the cup oh that's incredible bruins did it capitals did it florida you're gonna have to go to three straight cup finals yeah so for your scenario where it's like okay how do we wash them clean of this just disgusting choke job it's got to be stanley cup next year you beat the oil it's the worst one if they lose if they lose yes they still might they might be uh
Starting point is 01:03:16 in in like 24 hours they might be the stanley cup champions oh yeah parade in florida oh yeah yep yeah and no one cares they lose this series you know cinderella story for edmonton and whatever and you can act happy for them if you want this is the i think the most humiliating playoff defeat in the history of ever yep yeah ever definitely in hockey yeah like the the the example that i used on the stream i think i was like who were the stars of the 1942 maple leafs and who was the guy who was blamed in the papers for choking for the right by the way the red wing you know what i mean in 1942 i did a little deep dive on this through sean mackindoe because he he pointed out in his article that uh the 42 red wings weren't actually good they were a 500 team and then they were lucky
Starting point is 01:04:03 to be there yeah and six teams yeah it doesn't count oh seven sorry there were that was seven who's the seventh team i think it was the rochester americans i think or something actually yeah there was i think there were seven teams in 1942 19 i didn't know that 42 nhl season the nhl wasn't north america's top priority in 1942 weirdly enough like oh no it was six it was six there was down there was seven like right leading up to that sorry my bad okay yeah there's six teams it's like some men's leagues got more teams than that yeah like it's it's not the same here no people no this is this hasn't happened in 82 years yeah 82 years if the Oilers pull this off Oilers pull this off I I'm wrong I'm looking at the wrong series you big idiot I am I am right
Starting point is 01:04:55 there was seven teams in 41 42 the brooklyn americans the brooklyn americans that's right there were seven teams jesse all right um i don't think that takes away from the point that like hey it's a completely different level to do this in 2024 as opposed to 1942 yeah the only way if the if you're the panthers and you lose this the only way to wash the stink off is to win the cup yeah against the oilers ideally against the oilers yeah you might have to settle for winning the cup and then like beating them 9-1 every time you play them twice a year in the regular season for mcdavid this is his uh lebron beating the warriors the oh yeah regular season team ever this is his tom brady 28 to 3 comeback this is the greatest player in the sport having his legacy
Starting point is 01:05:46 moment for the rest of his career because it's a 30 for 30 no matter if mcdavid wins four more cups throughout his career nothing's being this one no because nothing is going to be this dramatic nothing's going to be this unbelievable comeback this could be the greatest moment of this player's career tomorrow night that we get to witness it's an all-timer in the history of hockey it's his golden goal like yes exactly crosby had already won the cup when he scored the golden goal but there was an element of damn you're not gonna be able to top that no like i don't know what he would have to do in the stanley confine i guess score like game seven overtime um but like you won the olympic gold medal on home ice in overtime yeah that is disney movie stuff so so and that
Starting point is 01:06:29 that's what kind of makes this so compelling is that like are you are you seeing the greatest comeback in nhl history with this one guy and by the way those amazon cameras have been following around the whole time the whole playoff yeah lucky them so we're gonna get we're gonna get come fall that's a quick turnaround by the way we're gonna get a crazy series with all the stars like starting in september yeah pretty good upgrade from and then they lost and then the leafs lost here's kyle dubas's magna board and we're gonna put players up there time to start again all right well yeah i don't there were there were five names that uh should have just been glued onto the board that's right because you're never going to trade them and
Starting point is 01:07:09 then the rest are magnets can we move on from the finals the last thing we need to play an old game okay on the steve dangle podcast that we used to play a lot it's called the nhl headlines and the nhl nhl.com took it away from us for a long time because they every every day on their their website on their lead story they have a punny headline and for a while they didn't do it anymore and then they started to do it again this back so i think for game seven we got to play the nhl headline game so the little blurb underneath the headline is oilers can join 42 maple east a second team in history to win cup after trailing 3-0 in final what is the punny nhl headline for this article
Starting point is 01:08:01 hmm so they're referencing the oilers doing something that the leafs did 82 years ago but i worry that that's throwing us off the scent like are they going to do something with 82 in it Are they going to do something with 42 in it? Are they going to go simple like McHistory, question mark? McHistory. Adams is simple, simple. I think they're going simple. Nothing too complicated here.
Starting point is 01:08:33 Think about the team that they're talking about. The team from Alberta that's in the cup final. You know, they got oil slick there. Yeah, like slick comeback. If you go along those lines, you'll get close. this is like record-breaking history making digging for history drilling for history ed miracle and mick miracle uh but it has to be with a question mark albert tough road ahead no i don't know also they probably want to keep it as neutral as
Starting point is 01:09:12 possible too right but it is go no this is dumb do it raise the stakes but stakes is spelled like meat no it's got to be people keep throwing the stakes no it's got to be edmonton oilers related it's got to be oilers related something about like striking oil yeah that seems like an obvious one striking oil but the l is a seven give it to us jesse adam said it while you guys were just throwing out no back and did i say it drilling for history oh he said drilling for history and it's not correct oh but it would continue down that line you might have got it drilling for history and both l's are seven do you want to keep going no no just give it to us give it to i was i was like getting nervous i was
Starting point is 01:10:07 like oh my god he's gonna do it give it to us just give it to us the nhl headline is drill of a lifetime all right all right close thrill of a life there's no way we got that they went drill of a lifetime and the fact that you said drilling for history i'm very impressed and you get like a one out of b plus one out of a b plus all right yeah yeah we we gotta have a time limit on our guessing because it goes on too long and then it gets boring so we got to make sure it's like you got a minute give me your answer i can't wait until the oilers win and the headline is like orange you glad we came back and won that'd be so bad yep orange you glad we won in seven m&m writing those door hinge door yeah remember that it was it was it 60 minutes yeah i mean i'm
Starting point is 01:10:59 Sounds like you could rhyme anything. That's an awfully hot coffee pot. Oh, no. Two in five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer. That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research. Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer.
Starting point is 01:11:35 Register today at pmcfwalk.ca. You've got to try breakfast at A&W. You've got to try breakfast at A&W. And what better way than with a delicious Pratt Organic Coffee, starting at just $1 all day, every day, now until December 31st. You gotta try Pratt first at A&W. At participating A&W locations in Ontario. Jake Chikrin of the Ottawa Senators seems to be a big piece of whatever the heck they're going to do next. uh there was apparently multiple sources reported that there was something in the works between
Starting point is 01:12:22 the senators and flyers on thursday or friday last week um there's also been rumors about lenis olmark and him being on the move and willing didn't maybe no wave is no trade so long as it comes with an extension i can't wait for by the way a uh um the the ottawa goaltending situation to be worth like eight to ten million dollars it's going to be awesome dude um okay so okay go ahead no set up this no no set it up so the story i want to set it up i want to ask you this jake chikrin good defense but not a fit in ottawa not going to stay there long term they're going to move sure there are ottawa fans throwing out pieces like travis connect me um or mostly him from the flyers because what else do you want like maybe
Starting point is 01:13:10 maybe maybe maybe scott lotten maybe scott lotten for that veteran presence they were looking for 30 years old captain fell out with the coach matt vay mitchkov right no so so we're if you're ottawa what's the best deployment of this resource and to whom obviously the flyers do have like seven goalies none of them are good but like right you know you can always get one yeah you got well you fedetov's already re-signed he might be good i don't know i want to ask what do you think would you would you rather take a konyakny deal which i would take all day or a lenis allmark deal okay so here's my problem with all the allmark rumors can we get a non-atlantic team in on this or what um because jeff merrick what does he always say hockey should be called
Starting point is 01:13:58 goalie hockey should be called goalie all mark won the vesna two years ago and the bruins are going to trade him to you why oh maybe he's going to go to the league well because you take you get jake chick right out of that that's pretty good for the bruins yeah but you're giving a divisional rival a starting goaltender that's a dumb thing to do unless and the bruins have a bit of a track record of doing this the goalie stinks they'll give you a goalie who you think can be your starter if they stink right they'll but you know what sure sure we'll give you a starter yeah we'll be happy to give you our guy yeah no no he's gonna return to vesna form for you don't ask how many playoff series he won the year that he won the vesna people listening can't see
Starting point is 01:14:51 but steve is winking after he is saying i'm not winking like that marvel character whoever she was no i don't know you know you know the marvel character who got one over on the protagonist but then at the end the protagonist went off and learned something about themselves and then they came back and they were even stronger and then they won are you describing every marvel i i think no oh i think i'm describing my favorite marvel movie hawkeye why are you taking side shots at marvel i'm sorry i'm spider-man iron man america where have you seen this where have you seen this before steve every marvel when we talk to you about when we talk to steve about the leafs and the flames hooking up for a deal jesse how would you describe steve's reaction to it uh his face
Starting point is 01:15:32 looks like a tomato frege uh said uh that the the offer the leafs made to the flames was comparable to the one that new jersey made for markstrom oh oh i didn't like that but due to politics the leafs had to offer or so the the due to politics the flames were told to take new jersey's offer rather than toronto's adam can you read that again no no no so you read that the lease as slowly and clearly as you can i'm i'm paraphrasing here so apologies to frege but uh basically due to politics the leafs uh had to have a way better offer than anyone else's to get the deal done what did the graphic say exactly that's what it said that's that's what it said verbatim yeah but that wasn't the direct quote but it's paraphrasing
Starting point is 01:16:22 this show's really good like no i'm serious like like if you need someone who's a student of this hockey team and just like listen we're trying to do the rest of the league and i like to think sometimes we make good points and i know sometimes we make bad points and you know i i kind of relish the moments where we get caught doing uh you know having a really stupid take yeah i relish those because guess what we have a show in a day or two where we get to make fun of it and it's a lot of fun doesn't happen with the leafs very often you know what you know what this quote gives me it gives me two confirm heart palpitations confirmation that's what i'm getting No, I get I get confirmation of two things here.
Starting point is 01:17:10 Number one, Don Maloney does not like Brad for living. Don Maloney is running the show. It doesn't matter who doesn't like Brad for living. Like either if it's ownership or Maloney, it doesn't matter. Stop calling that hockey team. It's a waste of your time. Number two is the Leafs offer was comparable to the devil's offer, meaning they weren't willing to get stupid, which I listen. Listen, the Leafs should be in on everyone.
Starting point is 01:17:34 And if politics are the reason that we don't get a player because Brad decided after 10 years, yeah, I don't want the person above me making the call and who the head coach is. I'd rather go coach in Toronto or I'd rather be GM in Toronto. They're not interested in doing good business. So they're only interested in making Brad Treliving look like a fool. Well, and I'm that's it. I'm interested as a Flames fan or for Flames fans, because it seems like that whatever
Starting point is 01:17:59 the Leafs were offering for Tanev and Zdorov ultimately may have been more than what the Flames got from both of those deals that's what we've heard the only thing they were saying is that they weren't willing to give up the first round pick the Leafs weren't the Leafs were not so the trade was comparable it just wasn't a first round pick yeah and and I don't think Calgary got one they got a second for Tanev they got a third and a fifth for Zdorov wait who are you talking about are you talking about they weren't willing to give up a first round pick from markstrom the least we're not giving willing to give up a first round pick for tan evans dora ah and so my question is again but they didn't get one they didn't get one so the leafs seem
Starting point is 01:18:38 to be offering fair market value for these players that's great more than so i think it's interesting for flames fans how they might receive news like that because if you're the flames you need to be vicious you have children running your hockey team you have petulant children running your hockey team um they're not interested in doing good business for the calgary flames that will help them win they're interested in uh you know fleecing brad for living how do we screw the leafs yeah how do we not how do we rebuild yeah every good team is out there right now going how do we make our team better and someone in the flames front office or ownership is going how do we make brad for living each shit hold on let me leak another story yeah like can i can i dude it's
Starting point is 01:19:21 dave like it's dave can i know it's the exact transcript from friedman give it to me just so because we were banding around the exact words because it was just taken from a tweet and then tweeted out. So this is what he said on the Third View Thoughts podcast from the transcript. We know Toronto's in on the goalie market,
Starting point is 01:19:39 but I think there's more of a Brassois-Anthony Stoller's type piece. Now that they, I heard their offer to Calgary was comparable to New Jersey's, but I think because of all the politics there, I think Toronto was going to have to blow anyone else out of the water
Starting point is 01:19:56 to get that player i also think markstrom at the end of the day preferred new jersey most but he opened it up to teams like toronto and ottawa in the eastern conference but i think the maple east were really going to have to win that deal so he said it yeah yeah no so he said reed is being paraphrased but that's what he said in man yeah he said it yeah no so the flames are i did listen to it oh yeah but i just okay all right i just want to make sure everybody knew that i'm like picking it up petulant petulant children they're not interested in in uh winning program um they're not you can't walk out because they're no longer an nhl team and these don't these rules don't apply but i think it is worth noting that uh the alex murello team lost an
Starting point is 01:20:39 auction before it even went to auction um they had can i get up and leave so the the just from what i understand and again i'm not going to go too deep in it because until the murellos are out of there the nhl is not going back into business with these people we will not see hockey in phoenix in the next half decade unless he sells the rights to bring the yeah i think the nhl is is coming back to arizona 100 but uh they will not do business with this man again there's no shot nobody in the arizona community seems to want to do business with this person and the city seems to be finding every little thing so apparently there was approval on the land to do an arena but it was a kids arena yeah it was like a youth hockey arena and then there was something else
Starting point is 01:21:22 about different tax rates based on an amusement park or not and either way they didn't have the permits for it so the city said we're not like mirello's like we're gonna we're gonna buy the land it's gonna happen so the city said well no you're not we're gonna cancel the auction everything's a half measure everything's a grift everything is i this guy is not bringing hockey to arizona he's pushing it away he's pushing it away and hockey belongs in arizona it does this man can't do it right and i think that he will eventually if he's smart sell that right and because i think if he has the option to well he may not have to but gary might say you know what this is part of my legacy and this is a if you look at gary betman's legacy in his own mind
Starting point is 01:22:07 because you got to think that you know putting himself in the hall of fame it's a big deal to him right um no the the failure of arizona comes down to him i picked this owner oh that didn't work out i picked this owner oh that didn't work out and they moved the city i picked this owner oh crap that owner doesn't actually have the funds we better buy the team i got to convince 29 other owners to buy the team okay i picked uh uh this guy oh no he that didn't work out and then oh i'm you know what, I'm going to go, this is the land developer. This guy takes distressed assets and turns them profitable. I'm going to sell it to him. This is such a huge blight on Gary Benton. And I think that Gary would call him Jesse. I don't think he's got the right to sell.
Starting point is 01:22:51 But I think if you're Murillo, you're like, listen, I'm a businessman. I have these rights for five years. You want to give them up early. It's going to cost you. I think like, what's the, if I'm Gary, I probably hate Murillo, like in my head and behind the scenes and i even imagine so i'm probably like i don't want this guy to make any more money maybe i'll just wait till 2031 i guess it'd be when it's like i can just give this to somebody who's actually competent because my favorite hockey conspiracy theory is that press conference that betman did with morello was done to make him look like a fool on purpose yeah betman like held his tongue throughout the entire press conference so that people could see how incompetent this
Starting point is 01:23:30 gentleman i'm gonna parade don't be the clown in front of a microphone and let him say all his nonsense right he picked him but now gary's recognized his mistake and wants every the world to see like hey yeah this is the bat this is the reason this isn't working arizona it's not me i picked the wrong guy and now we all know that and here's your team rhymes adam like adam's absolutely right yeah like this is on betman but he's also i i think he's 100 recognized his mistake i i think if uh morella was up uh abducted by aliens tomorrow yeah yeah i think if he was and it was on the news everything and they saw it he'd be the first one um like to be like okay how soon after is it not poor taste to be like so what do we do with the team
Starting point is 01:24:16 you know what i mean like he would very much like to not have this person involved anymore i think he paraded him in front of the media because he knew he would make himself look like a fool and he did and now he's made himself look like a fool again with this land auction gary's trying to move on um and for all his well there was the mistake he made before morello and the mistake he made before morello and the mistake he made before the mistake he made before the mistake he made before morello and also the mistake but you see the point all right i don't got it wayne gretzky's gonna be our head coach yeah um uh despite all of those things he's recognized the mistake he's made here and he wants to move on from this person because this person
Starting point is 01:24:56 is going to fail with the five-year window of rights that morello has i wonder if in the conditions of the sale and him maintaining the rights because they we publicly know that there are certain checkpoints morello has to hit throughout these five years like things have to be progressing so that in five years the team is ready and there's an arena what's the checkpoint for having a building i wonder if he fails some of these checkpoints that he relinquished the rights in those five windows i wonder if they were smart enough to put in there like hey in year one you must do this you must have that stuff and if you fail then that five-year window collapses at that moment and they get the team back sooner i think you're right jesse i think that's exactly
Starting point is 01:25:36 what's happening so that'd be that'd be awesome to see for the people of arizona because as long as morello owns these rights arizona and and hockey is not gonna be successful i want to check in with all the high-end liquor stores around gary betman's house to see if there was a purchase of a very expensive champagne the day that the land auction was canceled. I don't think he's sorry about any of this. Gary? No. No, he wants this guy gone. He wants this guy gone. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:26:02 Absolutely. And I think that's the reason the land auction was so important, Jesse. I think you may raise a good point. I don't know what the contract is. I would love for somebody in NHL's central office to leak it like they leak everything else. That'd be cool. Give it to like Sarah Volley. He'll get it out there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:17 Or Kevin Weeks. Yeah, Kevin Weeks would be a good one. Yeah, like give it to and it's kevin weeks and he's like all right guys i gotta look at the uh the arizona contract and it looks like the reason morello needed to win that is because they're gonna lose the rights here quickly or or give it to me for the right price sorry i had to do it um anyway i uh what what currency those those that money comes in steve whatever one is in saudi arabia do you do the version like first do you make them do it like how does that work it doesn't matter jesse money is no object um when did this become a staple of a villain the hand wringing when did
Starting point is 01:27:01 that become a thing uh i just find he's weird i i went last night uh on a saturday off went last night to see the movie inside out 2 it's all fun oh and there are a few recognizable voices by the way i've seen uh inside out one is really good too you should watch it if you haven't watched it uh but amy poehler's in it uh maya hawk's in it and somebody you should look out for if you know voices well enough kendall kendall coin scofield is in it as well no way yeah the athletic did a whole write-up of it but i just think it's uh it's such it's such a good movie yeah for kids and i'm just saying for for parents out there unreal unreal really well done and the whole damn things about hockey which is the whole point of bringing it up the whole thing is based around
Starting point is 01:27:44 uh uh the the main character riley playing hockey is that why there's a canadian flag in it and everything too yeah is that why the movie hasn't done well the movie's done well i think the movie's done well i thought it was a box office bus was it i don't know i was seeing lists of like worst sequels well maybe it is i i loved it i thought it was amazing great i love the first one maybe it's maybe i loved it even better the second time i watched it parents or the 40th time no it's no no no i'm talking i watched it baked once it was pretty cool okay it was pretty good all right let's uh let's get to the press conference here i think we're are we done are we good all right we're done that's not screw the press you had questions
Starting point is 01:28:23 stuff them okay all right first question uh steve what's your best fake mitch marner trade no stop to the calgary flames what happens when uh calgary calls up uh brad for mitch yeah no no so uh the the flames could uh so they're taking calls on nasm cadre i've heard oh yeah yeah so there's there's they're fielding two offers um it's cadre to the sends for jacob chikrin and a conditional third round pick that can upgrade to a second or the ask from the leafs is mitch marner austin matthews william nylander and their next eight first round picks and also larry tannenbaum's uh underwear all of them oh i like that yes i didn't expect it to go on i do want to say this before we go one last thing if florida wins yes or excuse me if florida blows
Starting point is 01:29:17 this okay let's do this okay the conditional fourth for tarasenko doesn't become a third for the ottawa senators good the ottawa senators are cheering for the florida panthers right now but what is what is the draft so they the terrace it's a conditional fourth that upgrades to a third if florida wins the cup a conditional fourth that upgrades to a third so ottawa is cheering for their 30s 30 oh that's why brady kachuk's at the games yeah yeah so florida loses ottawa loses that's right so so we're going all cheering for if you're a leaf fan you're cheering for edmonton You got it. Poor Sens.
Starting point is 01:29:55 I don't know if any teams had a worse. Well, maybe Buffalo, but Sens have had a bad run as of late. Right. Especially last year. They're great in the summer. Listen, I hope it's a close game, but zero shade. The Panthers have to find a way to defeat Game 7 Cody Cece. No one's found a solution yet.
