like counterparts yeah and are we forgetting about the super bowl guy yeah also the other guy's the athlete those are like three of the most like universally relevant okay gretzky's maybe stretching it on account of you know he hasn't played in a quarter century but you know what i mean no relevant yeah he's still on tv right hey is travis kelsey do you think he's hall of famer jess yes oh my god yeah yeah that's not even close yeah first ballot so so there you go there you go it i i know some people uh were talking about their political alignments and oh for god's sake does everything have to go to that listen listen listen jesus gretzky has just demolished a lot of his shine over the past year in terms of hanging out with him i've heard

uh-huh and i was confused funnily enough i was at the hospital because i was getting some uh i'm getting i've got i'm getting allergy shots so i can not be allergic to the to the yeah i wish uh so i can not be allergic to the cat i live with every day and uh one of the things they have to do is they have to bring in for a an asthma like breathing test where you literally are like when you like breathe out and they're like okay it's got to this level let's see if We can get it to this level. Did you pass? I passed.

I didn't die either. That's cool. I didn't pass out. That's chill, man. High five. They measured me at the hospital, and the guy's like, you're six feet tall. And I was like, excuse me? I've never been six feet tall.

And he's like, well, today you are. And I said, wow. And then I got remeasured at home, and the tape measure said I was 5'11". Damn! That guy was boosting your confidence. I know. Yeah. If you've never been six feet, I think that guy gave you that.

What's his name? Dr. Tinder? If you don't like socialized medicine, just understand what you're missing out on. they'll give you a few inches yeah you know what here you go you pay a lot of taxes 100 all right so outside of that which by the way everybody chill out man they're just celebrities enjoying a game it's a good thing for taylor swift to be at an nhl game it's good oh definitely super good definitely when i saw that i was like why how because hockey's cool man hockey's cool by the way football players love hockey yes because they can relate i think yeah they think it's cute you

You know, okay, genre of video I'm tired of and don't want to see ever again. What? Athlete from another sport, usually football, going to a hockey game for the first time and being like, wow, this is nuts. I've never been to a hockey game before. Well, I think J.J. Watt specifically has been,

the Watt family, those guys, those kids all played hockey. J.J. Watt can skate really well. Yeah, J.J. Watt's been like pumping those tires in the States on behalf of hockey for years, which is cool. He's a good ambassador for the game. he is for a guy that never never played in the nhl he's probably the best outside of the nhl i don't know if you guys saw the video recently the collab that tom brady and ty domey did where domey taught brady how to skate yes no yeah they did like a youtube video because

brady's got like a youtube channel i think it was on his own youtube channel might have been on like a brands channel but like they did a collab and domey's out there teaching brady how to skate Tidehomie has the weirdest friggin friends He's he's it's not like he Has any friends he everyone is His friend yes yes you know it's every Single human on earth he has a connection To yeah he's the most connected man ever

Best friend is Mario Lemieux Yeah and if you read his book his Explanation for how he became friends with Mario Lemieux Is very unsatisfactory You're like okay but What's the story though no he asked me To get into a club before a

game and then we became best friends forever there you go oh okay that's all it takes that's it you never played together never not once you don't come from the same place they don't you know no how how how does this happen sometimes you just meet people and you connect oh yeah for sure i feel like that's all of domi's relationships though yeah like he probably doesn't know where he met anybody because he knows everybody yeah how do you meet tom brady yeah so this is this is the photo if you want to bring it up maddie uh there's there's tom brady looking like steve with hell yeah i bet tom brady if he really put it put some effort and he could be a pretty good men's league player tom brady could be good at anything yeah yeah like the man is the most

competitive human to ever live if you if you tell him to accomplish a task he's gonna do it you've seen that apple documentary about the patriots right no okay so it's super good to watch that propaganda oh probably made him mad to be bad at some good interviews in it there's one thing where i guess in college like they had a super nes or something like that and if he would lose at anything like mario kart or whatever he would throw the controller and often through the wall oh yeah like he was he was that competitive well of course he threw it through the ball it's nfl quarterback right all i've heard about it is that it's made by robert craft and they completely skewered belichick belichick's in it yeah he's in it but they don't give him the credit

that he deserves that's all i've heard from patriots fans well it wasn't it wasn't vetted by his girlfriend yeah this is why you get a brand manager slash girlfriend who has a real estate portfolio of nine million dollars he looks better than me immediately that's this is day one on the ice tom brady he looks pretty good honestly for day one for never being on skates holy crap i've seen people at public skating i had to help off the ice like this is look at that look at that did you guys see the debate on first take earlier this week about who are the better athletes basketball players or hockey players and it was pk versus a former nba player pk suvan and former player and then steven a smith was like moderating it basically oh my god yeah but he

admittedly doesn't know anything about hockey right he's eager which is why how little he knows about hockey which is why i think he leaned basketball uh but it's just it was one of those topics i'm like okay i sort of get why they're doing it because they're trying to get hockey into the imagination of the average person who doesn't watch fine i get it good but like to what end okay well now i believe that hockey players are the better athletes so i will watch a game i don't think that's what i just don't know a pk for me i've said this before but he's ruined a lot of the goodwill he built up as a player as an athlete i loved him i thought his personality was really cool and he's when he's become a media personality he's he's gone off the rails too many

times for me to keep supporting what what what do you have an example that comes to mind that stuff exactly what you're saying that stuff but he hasn't been an ambassador he hasn't been a great media personality for the game of hockey they sure love him on first take though he's there at least once a week with his cool hats so he does i don't think i don't think he's unhinged enough no he needs to be more unhinged you're just you're just there are so many guarded hockey guys yeah don't just be another guarded hockey guy yeah well but on on grading on a curve pk is not a guarded hockey hockey guy but he's guarded in terms of basketball and football yeah but then you put them on espn and you're like oh that's laying it on the line there are levels yes 100

literally i missed that song by the way it's it's been all honeymoon sweet and i love that song too but where's where is laid on the line why haven't they they got they went three rounds of laid on the line and now we're not laying it on the line anymore it's on it's on repeat on my spotify is it is it actually no okay uh panthers go up three nothing in the first period and it prompts tweets like i think paul bissonette mark specter a whole bunch of people go in there oilers are cooked specter said they were choking i was back there lost it like skinner oh yeah he jumped off the deep oh yeah he's like this is a choke job i'm like damn are you not surprised what is this Toronto?

No, Jesse. Oh, fish was in water? Yeah, fish was in water. Oh, Steve, you bite your tongue until there's blood. Listen, Stuart Skinner got pulled after the first period. Yeah. Through 20 minutes, he was the Oilers' best player. Yes.

That game should have been 1 billion to 0. They were out shooting them. By the time they made it 3-0, 17 to 7. the shot attempts i think were about eight or nine for the oilers and 11t kerblillion for the panthers that's it skinner made he stopped four or five sure goals yeah sure what was the first one was like a minute into the game yeah the sprawling one yeah like and like if you watch pickard for the rest of the game not to skip ahead but like just as an overarching theme he won hilarious he's still undefeated and producer drew pointing out crazy stat because

pickard was the goalie of record stewart skinner is still undefeated in game four yeah you would have missed it on the broadcast coming into the second period uh where once they tied it cutthroat said that he's like yeah uh so stewart skinner's uh perfect record remains intact unbelievable but I didn't come out of that game going oh yeah Pickard's the better goalie that dude was swimming swimming his movements were huge and at home stops a sure friggin goal with the block on I think it was a Bennett or Marchand I think it was Bennett a Bennett yeah Bennett I mean Bennett could have ended that thing two or three times over unbelievable like I don't want to say it feels harsh to say even though the series is tied the Oilers look second best but

if I had to say which team is better it's the Panthers but that's not that's not how the Stanley Cup is awarded that's not how it works it's a series it's won by games Oilers found a way to eek out two miracles by the way miracles game one is a comeback third period i think for the first time in 32 games that the panthers choked second or third i think like or leading after first or second yeah yeah ridiculous and then this is the first three goal comeback by a road team in the Stanley Cup Finals since 1919. Yep. So, in the first period, Adam, if we were going through the game...

I was going through it. Steve was like, you know what? Oh, well, now we... You take that. Now let's go back. I like what I was saying. The first period, for me, the narrative coming out of that is the penalties that were called and taken by Edmonton

and then the penalties that were taken by Florida and they were not called. That was the double high stick by Brahegi that leads to the third goal. That was the third goal, yeah. But starting the game, Edmonton needs to understand that it's not completely lawless. Right. You have to maintain some sort of composure. But on the Darnall Nurse trip, the Evander Kane high stick,

sometimes it's so egregious that they're going to make the call. I would even say the Leon Dreisaitl elbow to the head later on in the game. You have to call that, but I thought you also had to call Verhege on Bouchard, which happened moments before. Oh, but the principal point of contact was in his head, guys. Okay, so that literally doesn't matter. Is it because he's flying through the air and not on either skate? He jumped into the middle of his back.

Yep. You don't have to hit the head. You know what was great? it was actually great to hear the broadcasters on the uh uh chris uh uh craig simpson and chris cutper go well i i don't know how the nhl is going to explain how that's not a penalty oh on that particular player can i answer yeah they're not going to uh yeah exactly because they don't have to but i'm gonna explain we're just eating your slop opening the game and taking all of those penalties when you did the exact same thing last game i think i don't know if it's a if

it's a coaching thing to get these guys in the right mentality but the only if you do this too many times going to catch up with you they have the skill to overcome every deficit that they're in so it's okay but this is the Stanley Cup final it's not okay well the Panthers power play is too damn good and it's too damn good to go down five on three like Kane there's a little bit of bad luck there so back-to-back games now he's taking a high sticking penalty where the guy he high sticked high sticked himself marshan did it in game three on the follow-through and who is it on this one um i don't remember who it was aj greer aj greer thank you um nurse he didn't like the call he kicks out the guy's feet what do you like i thought all three oilers penalties in the

first period were totally legitimate yeah the like the nurse one i you i saw some people trying to bend their mind around like you can't call that but like it's so blatant and obvious you have to call it it's because it needs to be like you pulled out like a sharpened prison toothbrush to stab someone in the neck because

it's a Stanley Cup final I've watched too much TV but no like that is an egregious trip you have to call that and it's it was for the Florida Panthers like seeing Matthew Kachuk arrive to the stadium and score a goal is awesome for them like two goals

yeah but like to open the scoring on that power play and he it looked good like coming off the draw recognizing i got a little bit of a pick here is barkov who had that little pick and i got who's struggling to find ways to be effective i think he's injured i've yeah i've never seen him he should get the selkie back though no that's not that was pretty bad in the second we'll get to that later but like the selkies it's a regular season award yeah you should get the playoffs nothing to it um matthew good chuck having the where the the sense to just go and snipe that shot and i think like he is clearly hampered he's clearly injured with something but he still has it yeah i want to say that i was thinking about matthew chuck you know scoring those first two

goals and i'm like there are times where your team gets scored against you go damn it but there are certain players that if they score the goals you go ah fuck off and he's an ah fuck off whenever he scores against i basically anybody yeah who likes him who's like oh good i would listen i'll tell you this if he were here if he were here i would have built the statue myself oh yeah i if he were a leaf like it's the same with marsha and in his prime um funny that they're on the same team he is just one of those guys where like he's he's got it whatever it is he's got it and hand-eye coordination he's a gamer positioning and attitude it doesn't matter that he's injured he's still got seven goals in the playoffs yeah he's a unicorn yeah like he's he's a complete

unicorn he can do everything and is one of the foremost psychopaths in the league it's it's crazy and the chicken shit oh no complete chicken shit yeah complete chicken get into the scrum you know how many chicken shit players are engraved carved into the stanley cup dozens dozens more than dozens more than hundreds claude lemieux's on that thing Are you kidding me? Oh, Claude's going to come after you. I don't give a shit. And then back off.

six goals in a single playoff actually you know maybe uh his name is John Tavares and it's next year ain't gonna happen ain't gonna happen anyway sorry there's I promise not to make it about the Leafs anymore so Verhege forces the turnover on Stetcher he does high stick him but I don't think the high stick had anything to do with the outcome of the play no no other than if you're an Oilers fan you're like well the play should have been blown dead and I'm like all right but I feel like that's the outcome of the play you know like I feel like if there's a high stick there you got to call it immediately and play's dead and there shouldn't have been a goal if he completely batters Stetcher and like breaks his nose leaves him bloody I think you have an argument I don't

think he actually touched him like it hit his visor and yes that is a call it's a call but if we're going by the stanley cup final standard i think to call that penalty would be somewhat of a makeup call because the calls were already three nothing right and you look at that as an others fan and you go oh i don't i just don't think it was enough it didn't have an effect on where the puck went you know what i mean like if if you if you and a guy behind the play get tangled up they're not going to call it you get tangled up with the puck carrier and you take him down they're calling that he beat stetcher like badly fair and square there's a reason stetcher was benched after that and sets up pants on lundell like i i don't mind

a non-call there but it is somewhat frustrating i have to say i completely disagree yeah i think because like i think there's two sides to it like i think you can have your opinions like hey you can leave that alone stanley cup final but i think because he hits him twice on the head you know the first time it rides up and he gets him and it's like okay and then the second time is the whack that comes there he bonks him on the mask stetcher does a very bad job trying to sell it he actually grabs his mouth yeah because he's like oh i got hit oh what do i do that's why he was benched we're probably not seeing him again and then so stetcher doesn't play for the rest of the game after after this and like i feel like it should have been called in that moment and the

ref missed one that goal should have been taken off the board that you hit him in the head yeah when you have the pop every time it's hit him in the head like that to me is a fascinating conversation that's going to get left behind a little bit because oilers are riding high and everything thank goodness they won thank goodness they won but like who the hell do you play in game five because klingberg the reason he was taken out of the lineup is he wasn't good enough so you put in stature do you just go right back to klingberg is klingberg at 100 health like is ty emberson eligible to play i know he played a bunch of games this year i would probably go back to klingberg yeah me too like i feel like that's just the default

he's played in the finals you do it uh yeah this year you gotta burn well yeah and also previously you gotta you gotta i mean remember the blackhawks won with chemo team and playing like four minutes a night yeah but they had bringing duncan keith and brent seabrook and and and yeah well not and and and it was keith seabrook and then they had oduya shalmerson but one of them was hurt and i'm trying to remember which one it was i think it was shalmerson i loved shalmerson he was a great player he's a great player now bouchard it i mean he just has such a depth through his game that i didn't know was there he was getting dunked on for um uh how he played i don't remember which goal it was was it the ot winner a game too but like that's not his guy he

was hanging back it looks when a goal goes in when he's on the ice it is never not visually very funny right it is always visually very funny but he's legitimately great getting at home back is a godsend for this team nurse is playing really well and then like yeah cool x giving you good minutes wallman i actually thought didn't have a good game last night and then he scores the the go-ahead goal and uh yeah they got a real problem with whoever the last guy is i didn't know that uh he got a shift in the second period i thought he had shift a shift literally a shift i have the uh his uh shift chart up on the screen right now i thought he had just after that goal had never played for the rest of the game he got one shift after that how long was it it was uh 14

seconds that is choice that you're playing so he played four minutes in that first period 404 to be exact and then 14 seconds in the second and then chris knobloch said no you will never play for me again how he's not playing how many consecutive minutes did he sit last night because the game went to bloody overtime he sat like over half an hour straight how many real time hours did he sit in his equipment two hours maybe like yeah that's that sucks that sucks you're a professional athlete you're an nhl player and your coach just says park your butt on the bench for two hours in your equipment watching the game you're not playing is there any way that he plays come on no yeah injury yeah yeah that's injury that makes sense but like he's not coming back for game five

you don't think so no all right gotta be clingberg i guess yeah yeah okay now let's get to the second period do you go uh an extra forward no no no that's a hilarious suggestion that's how they played though well not an actor they played with 5d did they scratch arvidsson last night i'm pretty no he was playing arvidsson was playing pretty sure he was i thought it wasn't very noticeable thought i saw his face hang on hang on hang on i don't think he played uh oh you're right no he didn't yeah damn i thought i saw him on the bench no they had jeff skinner who was very effective yeah skinner was in there yeah good for him which i'm happy for you know me too poor guy he was funny though he was hilarious and because he's won a stanley cup or won a stanley cup

Jesse. Yes. Before the season began, when you called Connor Hellebuck a fraud. Yes. We thought it'd be funny if he won the Vesna. Yeah. But we couldn't have in our wildest dreams imagined him winning most valuable player in the entire National Hockey League. How do you feel knowing that this year Connor Hellebuck was voted the best hockey player in the world when you said he was a fraud?

the ohl yeah um uh second round pick from 2023 american world junior team this past year um name him uh carrie terrence there it is yes he has struggled to really take the next level it's a 2025 third round pick that's what the rangers are getting and the ducks are getting a 2025 fourth round pick so they just they just swapped 20 spots yeah so the ducks move back no up wait no the rangers are getting that third rounder the rangers are moving up like 15 spots right so this is what confused me about the deal is i i think in our wildest dreams we couldn't imagine anyone taking the full 6.5 million for two years the ducks did and they paid to do it yeah i think it's significant that the rangers

were able to dump Trouba and Kreider, which will be like, what, like $15 million in salary? And got paid to do it. And got paid and got to move up in the draft to do it. That's insane to me. Iserman paid a second to trade three point whatever million dollars of Jake Wallman. A good player.

They have signed Brock Nelson, but a McKinnon Nelson Tays top three, even Tays at 37. We don't know exactly what he's going to be. And you got Jack Drury in there, too.

I think it's fair to be a little skeptical about the Jonathan Taves. Well, people are saying like, oh, he'll just step right in in Winnipeg and be their second line center. I'm like, oh, that's insane. Hold on. Hold on a sec. There were questions about his game before he stopped playing. Yes.

Yeah. And Gabriel Landeskog is a totally different situation. That's a guy who was under the careful study of the Avalanche's medical staff and training staff for years as he recovered. And the decision to bring him back, I don't think was an easy one. And now you have Jonathan Taves,

who he hasn't been working with an NHL team. He went on like a nature retreat for three years. Going off to India and drinking stuff that makes you poop or whatever it was. And he's like, hey, Aaron Rodgers, what's up right here? And like, listen. It's training camp. Do your journey and everything. I'm not hating on anyone for going on their journey,

but that doesn't mean like, all right, I'm ready to rejoin the greatest hockey league in the world after taking several years off it. Let's start with, is he okay? Are you okay? I honestly think he should start in the AHL. That's what a lot of these guys have done. I feel like everybody's like, oh, we're penciling in Jonathan Tate in these lineups.

Yeah, Jonathan Tate should play in the AHL for a little bit. He hasn't played hockey. Landeskog did it. Now, here's why the Avalanche are a potential target. Landeskog went to the AHL. He came back. Another guy who had a long career layoff and they considered bringing back was Peter Holland.

Remember that? Played for the Eagles. played for the Colorado Eagles and another player I don't think this was with Colorado I don't remember which team it was with maybe Nashville's minor league affiliate was Cody Hodgson oh yeah yeah who did okay we talked about that on the show he did okay but ultimately retired it didn't work out for Holland it didn't work out for Hodgson although they put up pretty good numbers they did all right they did all right um it has worked out so far for Landeskog like him playing game one of the regular season i'll believe it when i see it um but do you need him

to play that much yeah play 40 games that's what i think with tase like let's say he signs in toronto just just and and for the sake of argument for the sake of argument he's signing in toronto because that's the roster i know the best right uh i need jonathan tase uh 50 of the regular season and i need him 100 of the playoffs you can be max patch ready yeah and by the way he'll probably make what max made and it looks like max might come back too uh there's some reports out there that max max and the leafs are are both interested hey john you can play the 41 games that max doesn't there you go easy combined we have one player yeah and it costs us two million bucks we have one cali yarn croak yeah and then you split like an embryo and become two players in the

playoffs the do you remember when um nicolai kuhlman had a pto yes wow this season yes at the age of 38 and is it his kid and junior so the reason why the fronts wow so that's why he had the pto with the sense he wanted to show his kid that who's that he can play in north america and in the nhl and everything because he was playing in the khl up until the end of the 24 season in the khl there and he comes over has that pto with the sense and can't hang yeah but that's he was playing professional hockey yes and he couldn't make the team yeah i think that's that's even more to the point this is a guy who's 38 a year older than taves and tried to play make a team and couldn't people will say well taves's ceiling was much higher yes but let's remember how it went the

That's super weird. So they're in. There are two groups that want it. The Mary Lou Mia group and another undisclosed group. The NHL doesn't like these guys. These guys don't like the NHL. That's the reality of it. The the Fenway Sports Group does not like the way the NHL is run.

And the NHL does not like the way Fenway Sports Group ran the Penguins. So there you go. Malkin is probably in his last year here. It's going to be an interesting year in Pittsburgh. It always is. The Atlanta group finally got a deal struck for that land. And what's so cool about this is they're calling it. I believe they're calling it the the gathering.

the gathering at south forsyth is what they're going to call the whole project so the arena might be called the gathering magic the gathering you know it makes me sad that this news is coming to a close though because now there's going to be no more kevin week's pictures of the atlanta sky which is some eyeballs uh but sad but remember that uh vernon kraus and this is this is one of the two groups is also the anson carter group um but the vernon kraus group seems like they're much further along in the process okay um it's still probably three to five years before this ever before they ever even play a game and by the way uh they haven't even met with the nhl yet vernon krause is the guy uh and he runs krause auto group so he started with one dealership in

is not a lot of information about the other investors it isn't just him right so i'm curious as that kind of comes up not a lot on available uh but you know we'll learn more hl needs to get involved first you know actually before things start coming out uh closing arguments were interrupted multiple times by the judge in the hockey canada assault case by the way the verdict is going to be july 24th i'm not going to get too much into the details because it's more important that you get it from people uh the athletics doing a great job covering this rick rick westhead's doing a great job covering this i'd rather you hear it from them but the crown was not happy with the defense's tactics and you know unfortunately what we're seeing in this case

and this is a undisputed fact is a lot of the myths surrounding sexual assault are being thrown at uh the um uh by the defense to you know uh the judge yeah and so basically um there is the argument out there, and I think it's a relevant one, that, you know, this type of attack that the defense has gone on sets people back because it's because all of these conclusions that they reach and all of these things that they say are things that have been proven and are legally written down as this is not a relevant argument. The reality is that consent means every act that you choose is chosen one act consented to does not mean the next act not consented to is consent and so that is what there that is what this case i think in a large part comes down to and that's
