this one's a little more serious because it really genuinely affects a lot of men uh one man
every hour every day is diagnosed with testicular cancer which is a lot that's that's a ton wow
More than I thought.
It is the most common form of cancer among men ages 15 to 35.
April is National Testicular Cancer Awareness Month,
which is why we want to take a second to talk about some men's health issues
that are important to us.
With men's health and hygiene in mind,
Manscaped has partnered with the Testicular Cancer Society,
which is an amazing registered nonprofit.
Manscaped is putting action behind those words
and donating $50,000 to the Testicular Cancer Society
to help save lives and promote routine self-checks.
That's awesome.
Something we talk about actually a few times a year on this show.
I think it's important.
Yes, we do.
Manscaped just dropped a special edition bundle that helps support this amazing cause.
It's called the TCS Ball Hero Bundle.
It includes the Lawn Mower 5.0 Ultra TCS Special Edition and the Special Edition TCS Boxers 2.0,
which are very comfortable on said balls.
Okay?
Yes.
So, join over 12 million men worldwide who trust Manscaped and use the promo code DAGLE
for 20% off and free shipping at manscaped.com.
Again, it's manscaped.com, 20% off, free shipping with that promo code, DANGLE.
Let's start the show.
I'm having coffee with that.
You know, instead of milk, you have powder.
Oh, yeah.
We have some of that around the office because we're out of milk.
And I keep forgetting.
And well, well, well, it's bad.
Well, I keep trying to remind myself to to bring milk or cream.
I'm not sure we'll need it pretty soon.
Well, I can't say anything.
No, that's called a that's called a tea.
Now, we do want to thank everybody who came out to Shoeless Joe's in Peterborough.
No final count yet on who actually came or how many people actually came.
But we know it was well over 200 and the Leafs 800 not only got an OT win, gentlemen, but
they got a goal yeah it's important to understand that that we have done several live shows live
stream nights and over the course of the season we have not gotten a single goal at the games that
we've been at we did get goals in london but we didn't get the live stream up and we did get goals
during four nation but again that's not leafs right just off the top of my head uh live events
against canadian teams the leafs opponent had made around 100 consecutive saves yes yeah 47
from montembeau i don't remember how many from whoever was in net for the sins that night
and then yakub dobish almost did it again yeah it was crazy it was so crazy so it was so nice to get
to get down there uh it was our first show in peterborough ever again so super weird that we
we've taken that long but thank you to everybody that came from not only peterborough but the
surrounding areas everybody just getting their power back on after that crazy ice storm yep uh
and i wanted to know gentlemen what you wanted to start with today sort of a choose your own
adventure okay because we can start with uh the leafs winning back-to-back games this weekend
we can start with uh you know some other stuff i guess the calvin dahan drama the paul cotter
incident is calgary actually still in it or are we just fooling ourselves into thinking there's a
playoff race or do we talk with a talk about rory mcelroy finally winning the masters and how it's
probably about the leafs i think the least play in two games we give the people what they want
we give the people what they want right away uh i think uh i think we give jesse what he wants
because jesse has a problem what's jesse's problem what's his problem jesse's what's your
problem jesse and why is it with me steve wants to talk about steve is what happened no no
i guess he has a problem i said steve steve came in and i said he was cheating with his
playoff beard because he started it like two weeks ago yes and i was like the idea of playoff
beards in my i my history of knowing playoff beards is you shave it like a day or two before
the playoffs and then you grow it through when your team is eliminated and then but you started
like weeks ahead of time and then you're just gonna keep what you've been growing and then
say this is my playoff beard right but that's not how it's supposed to work so jesse is walking
through the rules for men i am a little boy and my i can't grow a good beard yeah but i don't think
the idea is for you to be like oh look at my awesome beard it's just that this is what i was
able to do during the seven games at the least were in the playoffs hey hey or possibly more
hey hey maybe this time it'll be 16 wins yeah yeah 16 wins that at least were in the playoffs
i was it's not the point isn't to be like look at me and my beard it's this is what i got um this is
what i'm working i was always under the impression that it's so that when you wake up in the morning
you look in the mirror the beer the beard is a reminder of what time it is which is time for
the playoffs and i don't when the playoffs begin don't want to be greeted by a little 37 year old
boy i don't want to see a little i have to be honest it's not up to you jesse he and i steve
and i weirdly enough separately had the same conversation as you guys did uh on saturday
night and i said are you growing a beard and he was like yeah i'm growing it for the playoffs and
i was like you can't do that and i said yeah i can yeah and and i think listen if there is anything
you need to shame steve for it's this yeah this is absolutely an affront to the whole tradition
i thought you were a hockey fan yeah yeah yeah or you can't grow a good beard that doesn't matter
point jesse's absolutely right this is screaming of insecurity yeah yeah yes like nailed it and
admitted yes but correct steve it's again it's you're not supposed to look good that's the point
it's supposed to look like shit supposed to be straggling look terrible and most of them do i
don't want that Sidney Crosby could never grow a beard did that stop him from being any less of a
man his playoff beards are embarrassing yeah they're embarrassing Jonathan Dave's never got
enough crap oh his oh terrible they were worse they were worse so bad so his neck again especially
brutal just yeah more on the neck I would have more on the neck if I didn't shave this is my
point why don't you just why don't you just commit to the bit and and I grow the shortest
playoff beard of all time and people can kind of tease you about it rather than going in as a phony
you're getting a phone you're phony baloney here man no what how else could it be it is phony like
it's not entirely phony i was okay it was like it was like during covid when when tv news anchors in
toronto would be like guys you can't get your hair cut this month and they would have perfectly cut
hair right yes it was like yeah oh okay cool man or or a politician have perfectly cut hair and
everybody else you can't that is like the you can't do this that was the biggest compliment
my wife ever got was from angry comments during covid because i got a haircut but it was her but
it was her yeah and all the angry comments like all right you don't have to jam it down our throat
that you're getting these friggin haircut this is my wife in the in on the patio outside
yeah so she could just go here go build a nest with that yeah anyway i grow hair great up here
that's that i'm blessed i'm lucky in that regard face yeah either i got it we've either i can cheat
get it you know you either i can cheat you can't or i'm not gonna do it i'm just not gonna have a
playoff beard why because i need to cheat i need to be a dirty cheater i don't think you do i don't
think those are the only two options i think phony i think it's phony yeah baloney beard i
promise i would rather you shave i would rather you shave here's a promise we'll put a pole up
and you're gonna lose on this channel already lost and if the people want me to shave it i'll
shave it but yeah i want but you have to grow it for the thing yeah oh yeah no i'll shave it
and i'll grow it but i just want you to know i'm gonna be in a huff about it oh you're gonna be
You're going to be just a snit?
Oh, I'm going to...
Good snit.
You know when you're like, meh.
Yeah, I'm going to be snitty about it.
Now, Jesse, what do you have?
I got Sidney Crosby's playoff beard from when the Penguins were in the final.
That's from the final?
Sidney's in the finals against Detroit.
He barely had sideburns.
He had two months to grow this thing, and he couldn't do it.
Oh, that's bad.
Holy crap.
This is baby Crosby.
so if listen wow if if if it's worse than that still you can't no it's listen it's bad it's not
worse for anybody listening it's crosby at the podium for when they were up against detroit
and it's it's rough missing a lot of beard the entire cheeks are empty and it's just going around
his chin and then a little spattling on his neck and he's got a half mustache i don't even know
what you call that a very light mustache it's not walter white like you don't even know if it's on
purpose it's not great cross can you look up taves sure his taves is it's uh it's also bad
very mennonite it was uh it is very mennonite yeah i i was gonna say i'm like can i say that
i guess you just did it's not an insult it's just it's just an accurate thing yeah you know
what's funny too style it's it if because when people are like that they are more the neck
growers and so they don't get the front facing hair right they don't get the mustache they don't
get that yeah there's oh you know what he doesn't get the front facing hair yeah so he's he's a
little bit more wolverine you know what i'm sorry that's better than crosby it's well yeah it's not
significantly better i don't know that's a favorable angle too when you ever depends whenever
you saw him shot upwards yeah jesse's right whenever you saw him shot upwards or he was
shot at a uh like you know with the camera at the face off dot it looked terrible he looks like his
hat is very secure with that chin strap yeah yeah it looks like he's wearing a football helmet oh
dear like this is this is this is worse than crosby in my opinion yeah there's so much hair
just on the side he looks like he's in a limp biscuit cover band like that's that's what he
looks like he's just it's brutal that's awful and he couldn't even grow like the mustache with it
no his entire face is empty no friend's hair so all neck it's all cheek neck yeah it's crazy
it's it's wild cheek jaw it looks like he has a thick beard but someone painted a
cleanly shaven face on actually you know what i have like i have a challenge okay for members of
the discord because we have a discord page you should join it and others can you submit to us
the worst playoff beards in history and we'll go through them in history i'm trying to think like
like i i can't i will tell you that i can only remember crosby and tase being bad uh but if you
have one that you remember uh especially if it's stanley cup final because they get to the final
that you get it in its full view right how bad it is i want to say stanislav chistov i know that's
a throwback jeez from the 03 cup final it ain't easy being cheesy i used to love him as a kid
you remember cheese stuff of course i do i don't think he had a very good one you have to remember
i had no dates and no other things to do so i played hockey and watched hockey that's what i
did those were the things i did it was the ninth grade for the the two of us yeah exactly that's
how it went yes uh so yeah please submit yours because i would love to do a full segment on it
so steve you're gonna continue being a phony oh god you know what oh that's not bad i got
tase back up steve are you gonna be a phony only if the people uh demand it because i'm a man of
the people okay so what are you knocking i'd like to ask you have you let god into your heart that's
how he looks right now oh no no that's no hey maddie that's not have you heard the good word
yeah have you that's uh would you like to try our butter tarts that's just i want to i want to know
if we can go three for three here maddie is it's what steve is proposing for his playoff beard is
it a phony baloney beard oh yeah 100 see you got to listen to your friends here 100 we're here to
help save you steve if you if you take pride in being a little boy then just take like full pride
in that oh i don't i'm deeply ashamed but you know who you are i do know who i am so just embrace it
shave your beard and do it like the rest of us not me i mean i'm a girl but
my wife texts all of you before coming in fine did you say that she doesn't like it oh she hates it
a lot yeah but now it's gonna get worse yeah at least you're going on a big deep run it's gonna
be worse what do you shaving it and then having your little boy beard is worse for her is it not
no no no like she hates anything oh and like if i haven't shaved for two days she's like
I can
see her very subtly look down at my chin
get rid of that
didn't you have a good playoff beard a couple years ago
we like shaved it into a recycling bucket
when the Leafs made it to the second round
it was okay and I'm pretty sure I cheated
he started growing it a couple weeks before
no it wasn't a couple weeks
go back and watch the pods
Steve's got a beard
I would love
roll the tape
I don't know if it was weeks before
but like you definitely cheated on oh i cheated yeah yeah i think you do this every year yeah
yeah all right all right uh if the leafs haven't submitted a uh a complaint to the nhl scheduling
department uh they should uh the end of the season for the colorado avalanche is tonight
the end of the season for the leafs is thursday the leafs had double back-to-backs last week
how and how well in all of them yes did well in all of them and that's worth mentioning but
just on the scheduling thing i'm pretty sure the leafs they can't be blind to the fact in fact i
would think they're more sensitive to the fact that their schedule sucks well they basically
had november and december off i think that's where november november for november like a lot
matthews was out all month and he missed like four years yeah like i think everything kind of
balanced out but to what the Leafs want is all of this to happen come April and March you know
you want that month off at that point in the season and it's a little unfortunate it was all
jam-packed in this last week what good is November off when it's April right uh zero percent I mean
I I guess they did really well yeah and then they played 15 games in 31 nights in December too
right like that's insanity but they they won a high percentage of their games where they had rest
and it's benefited them now where they're at a point where you know they could clinch the
division they've already got home ice but this sucks dude yeah it well i think it i think it
totally sucks and yeah i shouldn't have said december off it was that month of november but
like what they've done with the stretch since february 1st is be the second best team in hockey
so i don't think it's a bad thing that they have to play a bunch of games i think it might actually
be helping them going into the playoffs that they're running at full tilt it's to me it's
just another reason why you just don't put a ton into the regular season like i listen all the
games are important if you're a fan you still cheer if they lose you still get upset i get it
but you know a team being a really good regular season team uh does not translate to being a
really good playoff team right like this is a team managing the schedule not necessarily
every single night being like we're going to be the best version of ourselves there have been
so many nights recently no no two games have more nakedly laid that fact bare than the leafs game
against the panthers and then the next night against the lightning all right the panthers
were the better team sure did the leafs try i'm not convinced they did nope and then the next night
against the lightning they tried their ass off and they were right they were yeah yeah and it
just seemed very obvious they limited montreal on saturday to less than 20 shots with 5d with 5d
uh yesterday against the canes they were able thank you freddie anderson by the way for being
freddie those weren't on here what are you talking about you're mean listen hey why are you taking
shots at the probable Vesna winner
because we all have our favorites. Well, he's a goalie.
You got to take lots of shots.
I don't think any of those
goals were really on Freddie. No?
You think it's bad defense? The tip by
Willie in front, he was wide open. I'm trying
to go through them. Holmberg, it wasn't. Holmberg
was for sure not his fault. Holmberg, so there's two
of the four.
Tavares, that was a weird one.
The Matthews back and
forth one-timer. That was a sexy goal.
No goalie on planet Earth
is stopping that. You're a piece of crap, Adam. There's three
goals out of the four that aren't on
Freddie. Listen, I know Freddie Anderson,
I know he's a really nice guy, but sorry, no.
Sorry, no. Thank you to Freddie.
Thank you to Freddie for that win yesterday.
But you know what? Honestly, it really
wasn't on Freddie. It's on the Leafs playing
well. They played, they smothered the
halves on Saturday. Yeah,
but they still came out on top.
They smothered the halves on Saturday.
We're able to finish it in overtime.
We got a goal, thank God.
And then Sunday, they're able to put four past
Freddie Anderson. The Carolina Hurricanes
are good i'm not convinced the carolina hurricanes were operating at 100 because they don't really
freaking need to their season's done they know who they're playing it's over but i i look at
the leafs being one point away from clinching this division finally because the lightning will not go
away and i go man if the lightning had just lost to the sabers and the sabers were up in that game
we would not have to see matthews marner nylander tavaris uh and probably most of the defense core
all of this week what are the sabers good for nothing nothing no thanks for nothing this is
why i also don't believe in the sabers mirage of they've won a lot lately because a lot of teams
are backing off they ran into a team that was trying like it's it's march and april and you're
irrelevant like yeah you're gonna win games what take it from a leafs fan the leafs used to be the
gods of march they had like a three-year stretch where they won 75 percent of their games it was
crazy how many playoff games did they play i think it was zero it was zero it was oh crazy
if they're if they could play less than zero they would have like that's that's how irrelevant their
march record was so um starting in on saturday in montreal ivan deminoff too afraid to take the
ice against the leafs and who can blame him coward um but i was really disappointed i wanted to see
him play i did too but do you do you understand from marty saint louis perspective why you don't
throw him into a game like that because i actually don't this guy has played in front of crowds in
front of men on a men's team i i don't think this is a huge adjustment maybe stylistically it will
be maybe ice size wise maybe montreal's got a system that there's no way that ivan demidoff
could figure it out in in 24 hours i felt like they missed an opportunity for a good vibe there
He needed a day, I think, so he lands in Toronto on Friday, and then they play Friday in Ottawa,
and he's still in Toronto on that whole night, he meets the team Saturday, like he needed
a day to skate and get his legs, because he just flew a plane many hours over to a new
country, like give him a weekend and let him start on Monday, it made sense.
My guess is that wasn't a hockey decision.
It was a sports science decision, which like having flown planes transatlantic.
Yeah, I get it.
Yeah.
You coming from Russia like 24 hours ago, maybe skate a little in the morning and rest
on Saturday, Sunday and play Monday.
I got, I got, well, one time flying across the Atlantic, I got sent to bed like a child.
I was mid conversation with my wife's grandfather and he could just tell there was nothing behind
my eyes.
You should go to bed.
Yeah.
And I went, okay.
We had just taken the red eye.
Jesse, you got to see Demidov in the skate on Saturday morning.
We can play the-
Yeah, everyone stole your footage.
No, the Montreal Canadian fans, they're going crazy for this footage, as they should.
Can I just say, yeah, I love, while Jesse's playing that, I love how excited Canadians fans are.
I get it.
People are clowning on these guys.
I'm like, what are you talking about?
This is awesome.
This is the fifth overall pick.
And you got a star who could be a star like now.
yeah joining the nhl before the playoffs how can you not get excited about this why wouldn't you be
floating if you were a montreal canadians fan let's have a look at the uh let's have a look
at this too what do we think what do we oh wow what a nice lax speed look at that foot speed
this footage is just him getting out there we initially hit the ice for the first time ever
in a canadians practice uniform um it was pretty cool to see him and like the amount of montreal
media they are just taking photos and video is pretty cool to watch that and then i'll i'll bring
up the one after this one where he's going through the legs on arbor jack eye and the reaction from
canadians fans was hilarious because they like dump it on their own guys because they're they're
smart fans so they know their own kind i saw one it was arbor jack eye uh while defending demidov
and they played the r kelly interview clip where y'all killing me with this shit
so he's going through the legs in the middle of the slot and it'll keep on loop um it was it was
such a nice move and he tried this i think it was like three times during the optional skate there
so he clearly either likes it or is just fooling around i wonder if he's gonna try it in the game
but he looked like he was having fun nothing wrong with his legs um and habs fans just because it was
on jack i doesn't mean that dub it off can't pull this off in a game well yeah i just want to say
like you know if pull it off against an nhl defenseman next time wow that's the joke they
made about their own against an nhl defense when he was trying like jack i just gently put his hand
on him i'm willing to bet in a game situation he would have steve are you literally explaining my
my i'm just chirping them oh are you like oh but see this guy's joking but but in all honesty
yeah so no it was cool it was cool to have final shave you could tell that it was a moment just for
him to be on the ice first time ever in north america and tonight in montreal against the blues
is gonna be i think just just crazy it's gonna be oh blackhawk sorry it's gonna be madness yeah
it's gonna be fun yeah uh fitting that his first time on ice in north america is in toronto uh
where he will be where he will sign yeah where he ultimately want to play because this is this is
yeah um so anyway yeah uh the so the montreal game obviously for the leafs it's sort of like
just get in get a win don't get hurt right you got five defensemen you got a guy's playing weird
shifts whatever dakota murmurs was called up in an emergency basis against carolina didn't look
out of place to me no no that was a good signing it's just uh sometimes right through his season
okay so last season at age 30 Dakota Mermis played his first season of more than 10 games
he's had several cups of coffee uh in the NHL post-covid but he played I think it was 47 games
with the Minnesota Wild last year um a lot of his stats kind of lined up the way Ben was did the
year before like all right um on average you know he hit pretty well i feel like he blocked pretty
well i want to say he was a decent part of their penalty kill like benoit led the ducks in all
those categories and yeah he was playing out of his depth he was playing with john klingberg on a
on a bad team people forget because they've been pretty good this year especially when healthy but
the wild were bad right last year so it provided opportunity for murmurs he signed allergies kick
my ass today i apologize he signed and uh during the preseason i don't remember if it was in a game
or not i would imagine so he broke his jaw um which is just such a brutal not fun terrible
recovery it's one of those things like i've heard wrestlers um like you can you can tag a guy you
can hit him by accident you can kick him by accident you can you can hurt them in all kinds
of ways don't fuck with the way I eat right yes yeah and and so he he broke his jaw and that's a
long recovery goes on LTIR goes through the full rehab process with the Leafs the Leafs work with
them the Leafs pay for it and everything then when they got to take him off LTIR they got to
wave him to send him down Utah claims him you sons of guns Utah claims him he plays one game
with him i think he's minus two yep because he probably shouldn't be playing in the nhl
he just got back he just got back like no conditioning stint no nothing never played
with their affiliate utah gets uh healthy again they go all right you can have him back they throw
him on waivers leafs reclaim him plays 32 games with the marlies and finally gets his opportunity
with the Leafs. Plays over 15 minutes
and 22 shifts
and didn't look out of place. Good for him.
And it got me thinking, guys.
I know that
we were kind of complaining about the schedule, as we
should, but the Leafs
are playing the last two games against the Sabres and
Red Wings. Two teams with
legitimately nothing to play for.
They might just want to play, spoiler
to the Leafs, first
overall. Yeah, you know, maybe.
You've got to find motivation somewhere, right? Of course.
And you're playing for next year's job. You want to win.
absolutely always want to win always what you want to go out on a good note yeah uh it kind of for me
feels like why would you play like against the sabers and this is not to disrespect the sabers
they haven't had a good year but this is not like a hey screw you guys why would you rush a jake
mckay back why would you rush an oliver ekman larson back you wouldn't i just don't think
they play this week no if they play it's because they're 100 ready that's that's the way but even
then you risk further injury no the way the way i see it if if anyone who wasn't in the lineup
last game plays it's because they are more than 100 okay to go um get your wind back get your
game shape back i guess if they don't play it's because they're saving them for the playoffs i'd
be surprised if anyone missed a game really i don't think mccabe's missing a game oh in the
playoffs yeah oh okay i thought you meant i thought oh no no yeah i'd be regular season i
don't think mccabe's missing a regular season game i don't think oel's missing a game who's
missing up front is anyone missing up front patches yep oh camp yeah yeah well those are
a little different because they're on the fringe of the lineup but like oel and mccabe are decidedly
Major parts of it.
Game one, Leafs.
Jesse.
I was trying to figure out what day he said it, and it was Friday.
Rube said that McCabe should be back before the end of the regular season.
I don't know how much weight that holds from Friday to Monday,
now that there's two games left,
but he said he should be back before the end of the regular season.
He should play one of these next two games.
Jesse, let me ask you this.
Do you get the sense that, let's say it's a win tomorrow in Buffalo,
which is what it ought to be.
You got to if Tampa loses the Leafs clinch, but you kind of have to if you hold the cards, you got to play them.
Right. So do you get the sense that on Thursday, Berube is the type of guy who goes kind of like Keefe did a few years ago when it was Toronto, Boston from January onwards?
We knew it was going to be. Do you get the sense that Berube is the kind of guy who does believe in this stuff?
because there are those old school guys who are like,
no, you should play every game and blah, blah, blah.
Do you think those guys will all sit?
Matthews, Marner, Nylander, you know?
No, yeah, I think he sits everybody.
I think you find a way to ice as little of the roster as you can.
Like a Logan Shaw, Alex, Steve's first line?
Right. I don't know.
Logan Shaw, I don't even think is on an NHL team.
Yeah, I don't think that's possible.
But as much as they can, those guys will sit out.
You don't play Matthews unless they're going for something.
like willie i could see let's say willie gets three goals tonight and he wants two more
you know all right let's go sorry tuesday he gets three goals or something marner's at 99
marner's at 99 i don't know how marner feels about the 99 that's that's a conflicted thing
he's the best 100 player point that has never sorry 100 point player that's never scored 100
points yeah he's he feels so dialed this year i feel like he it doesn't mean as much to him as
did a couple years ago exactly i think it's a little touchy trying to get him to talk about
99 when he knows there's so much more going on in terms of getting them to talk about his entire
career it is going to change at some point in the next two months on what decision he makes
so i feel like 99 is not a focus and like you said he's dialed in on what can i do here in
the playoffs and then what am i going to do with the rest of my career yeah so yeah i don't know
if 99 or and also a baby matters there's also a baby on the way he's got a lot to think about
I feel like if some of the other guys
got milestones they want to hit, they're probably
in the lineup for a little bit, but
everybody's going to sit Thursday.
Willie's hilarious because he just feels like a guy who's like,
yeah, I'll just play.
He doesn't ever want to sit,
but I would be like, Willie, remember last year?
Sit down.
He's also not dumb.
No, he's very not dumb.
I don't think any of them are.
No, I know, but what I'm saying
is I don't think he's the
sort of guy who would
look at last year and be like yeah it's not gonna happen again right but last year it wasn't an on
ice issue that caused him to miss games it was migraines well yeah but he got the migraines
in theory because of a hit he took or at least it was heavily implied i don't know if they ever
yeah we don't know that yeah but like from the documentary they're like here's a hit and you're
like oh yeah i can see how that would have hurt right right yeah anyway i don't i honestly don't
think last year has an effect on how he'll take the next two games do you start joseph wall in
both of these games no why not um if when you start dennis hill to be in both of these games
no i think staller starts tomorrow and then uh they play sunday i'm guessing uh that he'll start
that game one so you don't want him to sit a whole eight days we think sunday that's that's i don't
think it would be great if you have the goalie you're starting goaltender sitting eight days
yeah okay no it's very cold uh stoller's wool makes sense yeah yeah stoller's will make sense
not like i don't think they need to over complicate anything what if they what if they
clinch it why start either of them if they win because you want them to be sharp yeah i think
eight days is too much okay yeah all right so okay then the leafs play buffalo tuesday we expect to
see most people in the lineup some some of most and then hopefully they win and then it's over
and 106 points
and then you don't care
what happens against Detroit.
I will be streaming.
It will be my last Leafs game
of the year.
Ooh.
What's that?
The Wednesday?
Tuesday.
Tuesday game?
Yeah.
So there's Tuesday Buffalo,
Thursday Detroit
and then it's all over.
It's kind of crazy to think.
We're already here.

window. You can do that yourself. And I'm like, well,
hang on a second. What if I don't want to? I don't have the
stuff! Because you've got to have that scraper thing
and the washer thing.
The chemicals. You've got to have the right chemicals.
See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I used
TaskRabbit, and I
employed a tasker. Here's the thing.

Tim Hortons
and the Tim Hortons app.
Hey, it's playoff time,
which means it's
playoff bracket time.
And this year,
we're doing it
a little bit differently, okay?
In the past,
we've used some website
from some league.
Yeah.
Boo.
Piss.
No.
What if we had it
our own way?
What?
And the link was
in the description.
And if you've been on
any of our live streams,
you would have seen,
you know,
we've used the Spark app.
Yeah.
Well,
Well, now we're going to get you to sign up because there will be prizes.
We haven't announced the prizes yet, but it's going to be big this year.
And it's going to be the first time that SDPN has its own bracket.
Right, guys?
And the bracket's going to open officially when games close on Thursday and the season ends.
And then you're going to have like 48 hours to 78 hours-ish to get your bracket in.
And you're going to be able to follow along with all of the SDPN brackets.
So the way they've set it up is you're going to have like a little SDPN sidebar where you can see the three of our brackets,
as well as CJ and Julie,
and we're going to make Drew make one.
So it'll be a lot of fun.
If your entire life's goal is to dunk on Drew,
this is an opportunity.
I actually ran into a Colorado Avalanche fan
at our event on Saturday night.
And I said, oh, Drew would be so happy you were here.
He'd be like, I hate that guy.
That's what he said.
And I said, he's actually really nice.
He's like, fine.
So the way it works, by the way,
round one, it's going to be pick your teams,
pick how many uh how many games it's going to take for each team to win that sort of thing
and it's going to go right up until the finals and you're gonna have to pick goals in the finals
gonna be great again you will get to see as jesse said all of our our picks on the side and just fun
fact you'll probably beat me because who do i always pick to go to the finals the leafs is never
bad against the leafs this is my rule and it's worked out great anyway check it out link in the
description of both the audio and video version of this podcast uh now moving on a team that is
been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons
all year long
are the New York Rangers.
Man.
Man.
Bad to worse.
This starts from a tweet from the New York Post's Molly Walker.
And she said,
Calvin DeHaan walked past us
as he was about to get on the ice
and commented on how it's all finally over.
He said something to the effect of,
how about the way I've been treated here?
It's effed.
Well, I can say it.
It's fucked, is what he said.
We asked if he wanted to talk,
and he said, yes, that would be, quote,
that he would be quote very transparent after coming off the ice and having a conversation
with new york rangers pr dahan decided he wanted to wait until the end of the season so he could
get more information yeah that's right uh i can molly says i confirmed it was his decision and
he said yes but it was clear the blue shirts did not want him to talk now calvin dahan then tweeted
about it because listen uh that's a big freaking story no matter what market you're in that's big
Well, a guy who's been in the league for a long time, too.
679 games.
I know.
Where does the time go?
I covered him with the gens.
Where does the time go?
Calvin DeHaan said this on Twitter after the game.
He said, going to get ahead of this now,
I was hoping that I would be able to express in a scrum setting
versus a quote that was going to go onto the ice
and having it on the internet 30 seconds later.
I said what I said because I am frustrated,
and any competitor who says they would be happy in this position
would be lying to you.
After playing three games for the team and going 2-0-1,
I thought maybe I would have the opportunity to jump into the lineup
and help win more games.
Did I help in those games that I played?
Maybe, maybe not, but we still won
and collected some crucial points to climb in the standings.
I understand the youth movement in the NHL
and I'm getting older in hockey years
and I may not play every single night.
I feel like I can still contribute and help teams win.
I know I'm not going to play 20 minutes a night in the role I've been in the past few years, but again, I feel like I can still keep up and help its team in certain facets of the game.
I'm not trying to be the villain or gain attention or throw shade at the organization.
I would have preferred a scrum setting to chat about how my time with the Rangers has gone.
As a player, you have to respect the lineup decisions, whether you like them or not.
It's just been frustrating not being able to compete and do what I love to do.
I hope everyone understands.
Now, just looking at his three games with the Rangers, I could see why he would think he deserves this.
In his first game with the Rangers, he had an assist, was a plus one.
He did take a penalty.
The next game, he's a plus two, and he's a plus one again.
So he's a plus in every game he's played with the Rangers, which is not something a lot of Rangers can boast about.
16 minutes, 26 seconds, 16 minutes, 52 seconds, and 14-14, which isn't that much.
But I could see why he thinks he's done pretty well.
Yes, yes.
I mean, well enough to play more than three games.
His last game was March 5th.
Now, he came over from the avalanche in that trade with Ryan Lindgren, right?
Yes.
And I think it's brought up some things that, coupled with Gabriel Perrault sitting, Jimmy Vesey sitting.
I don't understand that at all.
A few players have been a little bit pissed about how the Rangers have sort of deployed them this year.
And this goes way back.
because the reality of it is that
people even dug up stuff on Vitaly Kravtsov
and Chris Drury and things that happened.
Kravtsov was a ninth overall pick in 2018.
According to multiple league sources,
the friction between Kravtsov and Drury
dates back to October 2019.
Kravtsov didn't make the Rangers out of camp
as a 19-year-old and didn't enjoy
his first day at AHL Hartford.
He exercised the out clause in his contract
to return to the KHL
where he'd played the two prior seasons.
Sources say that when Kravtsov went to retrieve his gear and say goodbye to the Wolfpack, Drury told Kravtsov that he'd quit on the team.
Kravtsov would ultimately return to the organization and to Hartford less than two months later after a mediocre KH Elston.
He joined the Rangers in the bubble for the team's brief 2020 appearance.
And again, multiple sources said there was an incident between Kravtsov and Drury in which the young forward was dressed down by the then assistant GM for not working hard enough.
that happened on the ice in full view of teammates and Kravtsov right now has played 40 or the last
time he played in the NHL he played 16 games for the Vancouver Canucks in 22-23 he did have
another opportunity with the Canucks like you just mentioned and it didn't go great but I'm
just looking at his KHL numbers they good this guy's kicking ass over there dude 27 goals which
is uh leads his team 31 assists 58 points which is second on his team in 66 games that is and four
penalty minutes how do you even pull that off no that's uh i wonder if who knows maybe he could
come back to north america capo caco in the past has noted the rangers tendency to pick a young
player out of the lineup that happened earlier this year before he was traded zach jones said
he felt like he was rotting away because because he was constantly taken out of the lineup jimmy
vc said he felt like he was dying due to being taken out of the lineup consistency consistently
now i will say this jimmy vc saying that uh i don't blame him if you're a competitor and you
think you can help the team and you're not playing you're probably going to feel like you're dying
29 29 points in 48 games for capo caco since going to seattle um not a world beater but
that's a valuable player so let me ask you this we talked about this uh last week is peter labialet
done it feels like he is jesse when you see this and you see the rangers and how they rearrange
things because obviously they wanted to get younger and then they got a little older and
then they move something is this ultimately a team that gets back to close to president's trophy
form next year in this season was just an outlier or is this team fundamentally broken as long as
Laviolette's coach yeah I don't think Laviolette's long for New York I think he this this tenure that
he's had as head coach of the Rangers kind of a speed run of how his career has gone because this
time I think it'll only last two seasons but he usually has a great peak at the beginning of his
tenure with whatever team and then very soon after that peak he misses the playoffs and he
gets fired it happened in nashville i think his longest tenure where they went to the stanley cup
final great couple years later i think he lasted like four or three seasons after that gets fired
he went to the he won the stanley cup with carolina did not last long after winning that
stanley cup in carolina um he won it missed playoffs the next season the year after and
then was eventually fired his tenure in philly it started with the stanley cup finals and then
after that loses conference semifinals loses the conference semifinals misses the playoffs
and then he's gone as soon as there is trouble he is gone yeah he never stays through the trouble
you know those long tenured coaches like like if paul maurice and the florida panthers this season
missed the playoffs they're not talking about firing paul maurice because you trust him he's
going to be there a long time the same way in winnipeg where he's through there through the
whole 10 year you can trust certain coaches to run with you through the good times and the bad
and pure laviolette has never been a bad times coach he's a good times coach and this right now
is a bad time for the new york rangers we talked early on in this season about how it was a you're
going this way you're going that way season you got to pick a lane because of all the contracts
that were expiring how long you've had this core and all the money that's going to come up available
and all the contracts you've got to sign.
They've picked a couple different lanes here with the guys they've kept
and the guys they've brought in like JT Miller
and the other guys they've moved out on the defense and the back end.
So they've picked a lane here with the core who's going to get another head coach.
I don't love that.
Like Zabinijad and them, they're getting their third or fourth head coach
depending on how long they've been here.
I wouldn't be so sure.
Yeah.
What do you mean?
Well, because I think they might just blow that roster to smithereens.
Right.
well yeah if the guys who stick around who've been here for that long like they're gonna get
another head coach which isn't great but it seems like because it's bad times and laviolette can't
coach through them that it's time to let them go if you've if you've uh been a ranger since 2018
so a chris crider mika's have been a jet i believe those guys yep alan vigno david quinn gerard
gallant peter laviolette yeah at a certain now they won two presidents trophy well one in 2015
team won in 2024 you say though all those names again uh david quinn i'm sorry alan vigno david
quinn gerard gallant peter labialet alan vigno lasted about five years so well none of the other
three are head coaches in the nhl right now yeah yeah but you got you got to look at it so it's
are we questioning the people who are hiring these head coaches are we questioning the players who
are going to get their fifth head coach the trojans the panerans the criders you're getting
five head coaches and you haven't won a championship for us you've won you've gone deep in the playoffs
you won the president's trophy but like championships what it's about whose problem is
this there's i think there's room there's room for everybody um i mean laviolette i mean he's
treated this stretch like john totorella in philly he just didn't have the quote yeah and also a
major public blow up with a player or wasn't public he's quick got out there yes yeah he's
done he's done but like the players have been done at different times this season when i look
at the rangers so i'm trying to go what team that got out of it could the rangers look to try to
emulate and the first team that comes to mind is the winnipeg jets of two or three years ago
they were miserable they were sad sack remember mark scheifele's end of season press conference
Oh, I don't even know if I'm going to be here, dude.
I can't believe he's still there.
Yeah.
His eyebrows were at the top of his forehead.
He was so mad.
Cannot believe he's still there.
And they just won the president's trophy.
They locked it up.
Yeah.
Right.
They needed the reset of the off season.
Maybe that helps the Rangers.
Here's where that is not an apples to apples comparison.
The Rangers are, I think, older,
or at least the major components of the roster are older than the jets were the jets did make
you know like they got rid of blake wheeler ironically he went to the rangers um so there
was that uh also the rangers don't operate like the jets at all the jets are agonizing patients
because they're a smaller market team they struggle to get guys to come they struggle
unfavorable weather conditions versus florida well and then there's new york which isn't exactly
known for its beaches but uh new york it's new york and they'll spend the money and their owners
nuts and will you know there's no the patience that is that exists in winnipeg does not exist
in new york right so it'd be great if they operated the way the jets did a couple years ago
it's just not going to happen i don't think okay all right well it'll be fascinating to see what
happens i think you know it's it's we're going to know by saturday whether labby let's coach
probably probably friday morning i mean he's going to get fired before they drop the puck
for the playoffs i'm just what's so interesting about the nhl is i just saw another coach lose
their lose their job today was a phoenix sun buddenholzer i think his name is mike buddenholzer
buddenholzer yeah and he isn't he a pretty good coach didn't he have a good record outside of
He won the NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Right.
A couple of years ago.
So, I mean, the Suns are a disaster.
We don't need to get into that.
But like the Denver Nuggets fired their coach and general manager, as we mentioned last week, and they're going to the playoffs.
Why do NHL teams keep lame duck coaches for the last four or five games?
They could just let them go now.
it tells me they may not like especially the rangers who are notoriously tough uh they could
just cut them and go what are you gonna do it's new york baby maybe they figure i don't know we
gotta pay them anyway yeah i don't know i mean same thing with the nba teams they gotta pay
their guys i guess with philly the situation was untenable whereas with torts you mean with the
yeah yeah with uh the rangers i'm trying to remember who their assistant coaches are
you could just give them the next few games of the season i don't know it's it's a good point
like they are wasting their uh dan muse and mike pecca mike pecca there you go also associate head
coach is phil housley so how did the sabers let pecca go i don't figure it out oh my god um yeah
it's a valid question like this doesn't always happen like sometimes a coach gets fired and
you're like, ah, I guess that makes sense.
You could have kept him or whatever.
LaViolette's gone.
Why are we wasting our time?
He's gone.
He should get the torts treatment.
Should Drury be gone, gentlemen?
I know he won't be.
Should he be?
That's a tough one.
I'm going to, okay, I'm on the side of no, believe it or not,
despite the conversations we had earlier in the season.
And I'll tell you why.
It looked like the ship had righted.
and i actually kind of liked their deadline uh you know buying and selling and tinkering
and what what was their their their main homework this season well they had to
handle the truba thing i don't like how they handled it but they did
they lock up shisterkin the moment that's handled great good um lafreniere when he signed that
contract that was like great good I think maybe Drury understands what the mess is in that locker
room and maybe we need to let him cook while he does it Jesse what are your thoughts on Steve's
opinion there do you agree uh Dolan through Pierre Lebrun I think it was like three days ago
Dolan the owner yeah James Dolan said that uh Chris Drury is most likely safe so I think just
Whether we think he should be fired or not, I think he's going to stick around for this next little bit.
I think they're buddies, and he'll be the president and general manager of the Rangers for the next little era here.
He's on notice.
I think a short leash, for sure.
I don't know about short leash.
He needs to be able to do whatever he thinks is necessary for the Rangers to get better.
But if they don't get better in short order, or at very least look like a team with a plan.
I mean, to me, that's their worst sin.
it's not that things got worse you're not always going to win the president's trophy you're not
always going to make the final four they just look like a team with zero plan whatsoever you
if you're going to miss the playoffs if you're going to be bad you want it to at least make
sense right no one is going to get on columbus's case for missing the playoffs yeah if they miss
the playoffs on like the last day of the season yep i don't and i don't think anyone like a month
ago would have got on montreal's case for the season they've had like that's a position you
don't want to be in you don't want to just miss the playoffs right but if you do you want it to
make sense columbus it makes sense montreal makes sense we look at detroit and we're like
it's starting to make less sense you look at the penguins you're like what the hell are you doing
directionally if you've got a set organizational direction to miss the playoffs for a for future
wins yeah then you're then it makes sense you can you can believe in it and hey the Columbus
Blue Jackets took a step forward Detroit and Pittsburgh did not right exactly um the Rangers
I mean decidedly took a step back and they're not rebuilding either so what are you other than
you're just sort of bad the quote from Pierre Lebrun was my sense there is that he should be
okay speaking of chris jury i think there's a lot of loyalty from jim dolan the owner
at tsn's pierre lebron said chris jury was pretty busy out of the trade deadline to really kind of
setting up his off season with a lot of moves he made i think jury plans to be aggressive and
trying to retool the rangers again here this summer and then on laviolette he said i can tell
you that there's absolutely no word out of the rangers themselves very tight-lipped about what
might transpire here over the next week or so but in talking to other people around the league the
low-hanging fruit the expectations from a lot of people i've talked to is that pierre peter
laviolette could get fired he's got another year on his deal so certainly not a sure thing but when
you look at the body language and the performance of the team of last month i've talked to people
and that's probably the easiest conclusion they've drawn got it got it oh there you go
uh from puckpedia uh their 2025 free agents um ufa's obey kubel and calvin dahan i think they'll
be okay rfas adam edstrom will cooley arta kaliev matt rempe yuso parson and keandre miller
zach jones and matthew robertson it's a busy summer man yeah absolutely i think keandre
before everybody figure that figure that out and he's an rfa so yeah but i mean sorry figure that
out in terms of your rfa thing and if there is a you know if there is a team that is somewhat
tight against it and you know you might want to offer sheet come august k andre miller is a guy
it's always fun it's like well always the leaf guy oh who's the leaf rfa everybody's gonna offer
that guy i actually do think k andre miller could be a very expensive offer sheet for a team but
damn dude that'd be a heck of a pickup it says here they don't on puckpedia it says they don't
have a first round pick the rangers yeah i feel like now maybe they have a conditional i don't
know oh boy yeah oh god oh man yeah it's crazy that's pretty bad uh jesse i want you to bring
this this video up uh mostly just for the screen grab paul cotter uh has been uh what was the jt
miller trade it was the jt miller trade they gave up a first it's top 13 protected okay okay so
they're fine uh new jersey's paul cotter will have a hearing today for an illegal check to the head
against New York Islanders, Adam Pelich.
Now, that hit, this hits crazy.
Now, you'll see New Jersey fans, and I get it, they're fans,
I'm not blaming them, say, oh, well, he didn't see him.
He absolutely had time, and he for sure saw him.
And Pelich called him a fucking douchebag afterwards.
You could see it on camera, because Pelich was okay,
but his nose was really bloodied.
this is about as headshot as a headshot gets right yeah this one's a slam dunk for player safety
yeah this uh again there's no such thing as slam dunk no that's why i said it jesse is correct
jesse is unfortunately correct but i will always give player safety credit oh boy what a faucet
uh player safety i will always give them credit for that matthew nye zach white cloud video
and this to me is not that at all wow he's pissed oh he was mad yeah and that is that is
a big old broken nose yeah that thing was going all over the fucking plate look at that road map
oh my god ah that should be his profile picture on everything by the way that goes hard as hell
um no that like the video you were making a point about the video yeah my bad my cloud
it's this isn't white cloud on knives at all this is like just pure brain it was very avoidable
he doesn't hit him in the head by going through another part of his body
and again with these conversations it doesn't need to be about oh he's a bad guy and meant to
do it it's a fast sport and shit happens but you get punished when shit happens the wrong way in
theory well you ought to to me this is i'm trying to think of precedence and i'm struggling with
that feels like a two gamer i was gonna say two um which if you're the islanders probably doesn't
make you feel better at all well how many games they have left anyway exactly like is paul cotter
gonna miss a playoff game no no fuck he got unless he got a four game suspension because remember
playoff games count as two yeah zero shot just right in the schnoz yeah right i mean the nose
might have absorbed some of the blow take away from the like i'm i'm glad to see pellick that
animated right you know because usually when guys get hit like that they're cold yeah yeah but his
nose is in pain yeah you can see it you can see the curve in it uh oh my god yeah oh that's uh
yeah i'll take a broken nose from a dog over that that's uh that looks that looks awful shitty uh
on the injury front let's go longer and deeper into this one leon dry settle trent frederick
matthias at home all edmonton oilers yes all have missed games returned and missed games yes uh at
home it looks like he's gonna be gone a long time trent frederick should be ready they said by game
three okay uh leon dry sidle you know i think it's just one of those it's it feels like the
matthews thing it's like he's just hurt and he's gonna have to play through it he's managing
yeah yep uh what did we think about matthias at home returning generally should they have just
waited for the playoffs or in an ideal situation okay fine you gotta risk it because we gotta get
you back into games and see how it goes if it was always part of the plan for those guys to come
back see how they feel and then miss some games before the end of the regular season just to rest
that's fine that's sports science that's a conscious decision a conscious plan with all
parties involved if they were hurt played got hurt again all three of them that's a damning
indictment of uh the edmonton oilers and i'm i'm not gonna single out any particular person like
you know on their staff because those decisions are often done by committee but at least one
person screwed up bad here i mean dry side all always carries so much frederick's been gone for
like a while man like what happened here you acquired this player injured um and losing
Ekholm is devastating yes it's I mean obviously losing McDavid is huge losing Dreisaitl is huge
but like is Ekholm like the maybe third worst option to be hurt for the Oilers he's up there
yeah it's not great it's uh I mean you look at the defense now that the Oilers have guys and
and this is what kind of blew my mind,
you have, you know, from their cup-winning run,
De'Arne is gone, CeCe's gone, Broberg's gone,
Ekholm will not play.
Yep.
That's four of seven, four of eight?
That's a significant shift.
Jesse just brought it up.
Was it a non-contact injury?
I don't know.
Oh, we can't tell.
Oh, boy.
That's nothing but bad.
So your first line on defense is Nurse Bouchard.
Okay.
Well, they've played together before, yeah.
Yep.
Then you got Kulak, Stetcher,
and then it's looking like Camdenine and Ty Emberson.
I like Ty Emberson.
Stetcher's had a decent season.
He was a deadline pickup last year.
Oh, boy.
I mean, it's just...
Ekholm really ties the room together.
Did you say Wallman in there?
Is he out too?
Wallman is out too, yes.
Oh, my God!
I only mentioned the guys that were on the team last year.
Right.
Oh, my God.
Yeah.
Oh, boy.
It feels so stupid to pick the Kings
because they've literally lost three straight years
to the same team, same core and everything.
Things aren't in favor of the Oilers right now.
Right, right.
Jesse, what do you think the Oilers do?
They play hockey.
No.
You lean on McDavid and Drysaddle.
You hope that Stuart Skinner looks like playoff Stuart Skinner
or if it has to be Picard, you ride him.
But that's the thing you're going to have to go with here
is you're going to have to rely on your offense,
which isn't the best strategy for the playoffs,
but they have enough pieces up front
that they can probably get by with the defense that they have.
We'll see.
McDavid looks good.
And Stuart Skinner, it looks like he may start tonight.
So that'll be good.
We'll see where he's at.
Another guy who's been injured recently, too.
Yes, exactly.
Exactly.
I mean, you know getting hot at the right time or the wrong time.
Sometimes you just get injured at the wrong time.
Yes, and that does happen to at least a good team every year.
It's a question of how they get over it, how they respond.
When we talk about the playoffs, the other big injured team I can think of is New Jersey.
Losing Jack Hughes a month and a half ago.
Florida? Does Florida fit in there?
I think, but everybody's coming back for Florida.
Ekblad was talking about how healthy and great he felt.
yeah but we have well he's not injured um cap yeah yeah but um matthew we have no idea how
matthew kajuk is gonna look he might look like he's fired out of a cannon he might look like
a shell of himself we have no idea we'll find out we will hopefully that's tampa's problem now
what do you know about the code jesse and steve the code it's not written down i know that what
do you know about it it uh bends like adam pellix knows it's uh you can do whatever you want with
it yes yes and and last week we had uh rod brindamore saying that everybody made way too
much of the jail and chatfield stuff happens all the time you guys must not watch this sport
okay rod okay no dear fair enough let me ask you this yak of trennan got tossed after his fight
with Derek Forbert.
Now, what's interesting about this fight
is that Forbert punches
when Trennan is on his knees
and then Trennan throws
when Forbert is on his back.
And he clocked him.
Trennan was the one pulled from the game.
He was the one banished.
Is that, A, a part of the code?
Guy's on his knees, it's okay to punch.
Guy's on his back, no longer punching.
and b do you see look that forbert throws throws punches there right trennan is on his knees
looking down raps do not jump in fight continues and then forbert falls and then trennan now
punches what do we think here guys i mean it's a dirty piece of shit move from trennan um
i guess the question is is it punishable like this is the weird thing like with chatfield
i'm like well yeah they're in a fight you know what i mean trennan's like yeah i'm in a fight
like in ufc and i know this isn't ufc it's the ref's job to break up the fight and i'm gonna
fight until someone pulls me off this person jorge masvidal it was super necessary right um
i'm not gonna yell and pound the table like i did with the chatfield shit but uh as long as
there's fighting in the nhl shit like this is gonna happen and like the code is also a fairy
tale like it's a total myth and the the example of this i always bring up i don't remember exactly
which night it was because wendell clark has had a ceremony for his jersey being honored
remember they honored 17 but they didn't retire it and then he also got his number retired
they showed him in a fight he's got his opponent in full guard he has mounted him or sorry full
mount i said full guard idiot full mount his knees are on either side of his stomach he's got
one hand on the guy's like collar and the other hand is stuffing him like a donut
he is just filling the guy and you hear the crowd go oh and you see wendell he looks embarrassed
it's one of those things it was the style at the time um all this stuff about the code
exists until it doesn't and always has so if i'm the minnesota wild if i'm yakov trennan's
teammate i'm like probably shouldn't have done it but he's my guy so fuck you right like here's
here's what it comes down to and this is where hockey gets in trouble i don't know if george
peros can punish this derrick forbert has a broken orbital bone by the way that's a long recovery
because of this i don't know if george peros can punish this
because it's not in the rule book necessarily it's a code thing so by the code someone on the
canucks has to kick trennan's ass next year that's the problem and now the canucks their
list is getting longer isn't it who else is on it well sherwood uh talked about we don't play them
again oh man who was the player there was there was someone did something to the canucks and
sherwood was like well we don't play them again but we'll have to get them next year i think it
was whoever hit heidel was it philip heidel oh yeah yeah damn i can't forget who it is yep yeah
i remember the hit specifically said and i was like wow we learned nothing from like bertuzzi
more where the Canucks were like we're gonna get him and then they got him and then they got him
again and broke his neck yeah Jesse when you look at that do you just see a fight or do you see
something where it's like like because again Trennan was hit while he was on his knees so
then Forbert falls and Trennan doesn't stop what do you think no that was dirty play like you can't
like you can't do that you're talking about Steve he wasn't he can't even be punished for that he
was punished for it like in the game well he got an unsportsmanlike he's kicked out and I think
that's what he should have got because um you can't do that when the ref is stepping in and
the guy's back is on the ice you can't throw a punch right at it oh it's a hunk of shit it's it's
a terrible move um he should be punished for it and i think he was at the moment in the game which
i don't know we can debate whether that's enough punishment but they did at least do something in
the moment because that was an awful move and you can't do that there's no like oh it was in the
middle of a fight kind of thing because it was after the fight when the guy's on his back and
you can't do that i think that's game management more than punishment if you leave trennan in that
game although how much time was left in that game i'm not sure uh 412 in the third period oh okay
so there was no risk of him being a factor in the game i guess well so then then it's even less
412 into the third period oh 16 whatever 15 whatever if you leave trennan in that game you
risk it becoming a fucking carnival so i think i think kicking him out was a favor to everyone
more so than so that's the refs controlling the game after that well it's the right call though
yeah that's 100 i wasn't criticizing oh yeah no you can't you can't leave that player in the game
after that because it's going to be mayhem okay all right just wanted to check just wanted to
check all right now this week a couple of things i want to mention um we've got uh playoff season
previews coming uh as we do so people forget this sometimes so i i like to bring it up obviously
before the season starts we do season previews for all 32 nhl teams and one day it'll get to
40 teams guys and we'll do all 40 hell yeah we'll just live here for a couple days here's how berlin
will do this year uh but but i i want to say that uh we also do this we also do this pre every round
so uh we will be releasing those videos later on in the week so be on the lookout for those
Also, CJ and Julian have their Mondays and Thursdays.
Alan's got an episode coming out midweek, I think, as well.
So there's lots of stuff coming.
And then be on the lookout for us because I believe there's announcements coming from our end as well.
People were asking, especially at the Peterborough Show,
hey, you guys doing anything for the playoffs?
You haven't said anything.
That's right, on purpose, but there will be some stuff and some things.
So let's do the press conference with that.
April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.
And Movember, the leading charity dedicated to changing the face of men's health, is encouraging men across the country to, quote, know thy nuts.
Know them.
Check them.
Know them.
And here's the thing.
You're looking for changes or inconsistencies, and basically you've got to go to a doctor.
And men are notoriously stubborn with that.
One in four Canadian young men shared they've never even checked their nuts.
Not once.
Come on now.
That's what I thought too.
Again, we mentioned this early in the show,
but testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer
in young men aged 15 to 40.
70% of Canadian young men say
they would make a doctor's appointment
if they noticed something abnormal.
But that means 24% wouldn't.
And then there's like a 5%.
Which is way too high.
That's kind of crazy.
Yeah.
So we want you to know thy nuts this year.
Check it out.
Now, here's what you need to do.
You need to steam them.
Go into a steamy shower.
Okay.
Then you need to roll with your finger and thumb.
okay and then you need to repeat that's what movember tells you to do awesome check that out
and check out movember's testicular cancer awareness month uh know thy nuts check it out
right now at movember.ca check yourself out not true
the steve dangle press conference
What's wrong?
I just keep mugging to the camera going, oh, something might be coming.
This was from Richard.
Steve, because you're on a fan of both sides.
If you were going to be in Vegas this weekend, are you going to WrestleMania or Game 1 of the Vegas series?
You only get one.
Oh, wow.
It'll be Vegas, Minnesota, or St. Louis.
Or Calgary.
Man.
That we did not talk about.
Oh.
Oh.
What are you picking?
Good question.
And you only get one night of WrestleMania, because it's one night of the night.
Oh.
Damn.
That affects my answer.
In reality, you can do both.
I assume they will not schedule the game during WrestleMania.
Yeah, that's my hope.
So, but in this fake scenario, you only get one.
I'm going to say night two of WrestleMania.
Wow.
Because I would love to be able to say I've been to WrestleMania.
Adam, you've been to WrestleMania.
I have been to WrestleMania.
I saw The Rock and Hulk Hogan.
Oh, come on.
It was a classic.
WrestleMania 18?
That was a good one.
And there was a match after it and nobody cared.
It was Jericho and Undertaker and no one gave a shit.
it was like the deadest it had ever been if i remember correctly jericho was pissed about that
because he's like dude don't make us go on after that yeah yeah yeah but that's funny um yeah i
want to be able to say that although i do also want to be able to say i've been to a golden
knights game i i choose wrestlemania but that's that's a very good question are you gonna watch
wrestlemania this weekend uh probably not on account of the playoffs are starting so i don't
think so you'll have to watch them like recorded version of it later or something because netflix
makes that available right they should yeah first time i will see i think it might be a premium live
event yeah but all in canada all of that is available on netflix yeah get out of town yeah
yeah you like you don't need another subscription on top of your netflix subscription to get
uh pay-per-views for wrestling well in that case so you just throw it on um we got this question
from nicholas that was a very interesting one when the new atlanta team comes do you still name
them the thrash thrashers no because that name always sucked no you're not going back thrashers
and that'd be like do you want to go back to the atlanta flames flames yeah well there's a flames
right now uh also i guess winnipeg owns the the thrashers yeah but arizona let the jets
call themselves the jets that's correct yeah i also would say that that uh so messy i don't
think the jets would stand in the way of the thrashers being called the thrashers but i think
the difference between the jets coming back and the thrashers coming back is that people actually
liked and watched the jets and was were sad to see them go there were a bunch of hardcore fans
in atlanta who were sad to see the thrashers go but let's be honest the team the arena the
ownership everything sucked everything sucked they won zero playoff games they made it to the
playoffs once they got swept just a just a it's a bad memory as the favorite by the way and it's
funny because that market now people are like what do you mean you're going back to Atlanta
do you guys don't you guys remember last time it's different now but I do think that people
are right to think that because it was shit last time and do you with the second half of that
question is do you retire 17 for Kovalchuk no different franchise um I you know my stance on
that shit i think they should you think they he belongs to the city of atlanta yeah i i get that
but like how many fans will appreciate it i think you got to retire pav electricity too
oh pav electric have noted alan walsh client have alan walsh in the building and everything
i like how many hockey fans who are hockey fans right now never saw the thrashers play a game
when did they leave 2011 i'm bringing it up right now probably a lot yeah probably 2011
was last season or the first season i guess of the because i can remember my first year in calgary
was the first year the jets existed and there was a lot of winnipeggers there and they were all
wearing brand new jets jerseys who scored the first goal for the new jets i don't know man
he's a former leaf yeah panikarovsky antropov nick antropov they were both there weren't they
weren't they both in i don't know anyway uh it's a um it's a uh uh i think it's a different
situation is that yeah i don't know i think you you keep thrashers i like the name yeah actually
like if you take like steve would you really hate the name thrasher if it wasn't associated with so
much losing and sucking probably not i guess i guess because of all the losing you want to start
fresh like that i mean i i'll buy that argument but i feel like there's also history there with
that and people will be more excited if they're like hey the thrashers are coming back rather
than hey the bulldogs here's a new brand yeah here let's start from scratch people love nostalgia
yeah also somebody needs to double down in america on using the bald eagle as a logo
and nobody does
and I feel like
thrashers
because it is a bird
right
it is a bird
caps kind of do
yeah
they wore the jerseys
what was it
two nights ago
yeah
true
yeah with the swipe across
those are the specialties
I feel like the thrashers
have an opportunity
to go yoink
that's ours now
thrashers
but with like a bald eagle
yeah
in the American South
so you gotta tell Ovi
you can't wear those
black jerseys anymore
you can
but we're better
the eagle is the fake
our Russian is better
oh wow
our Russian machine
never broke either
the eagle is so fake like what do you mean that oh well that's not their call it's not even how
how an eagle sounds and now oh yeah a thrasher is also an eagle just stop giving the eagle an
identity crisis like what are we doing either you love it as it is see a thrasher though is to me
it's it's a verb right so you you can it can be anything i'm just saying that they their logo was
fine i think some people like their logo some people didn't but i feel like if you're gonna
to bring the thrashers name back we got to come roaring back with like a better logo i think it
would be that name would go off in england what that oh we gave him a proper thrashing yeah i've
totally that's my they don't name teams in england though they're just club yes no they would be
atlanta hockey club yeah uh the general manager of the atlanta thrashers from 99 to 2000
trivia uh rick dudley yeah no rick dudley was the general manager for the final year
2010 to 2011 chuck fletcher no it's no not chuck fletcher i do not know don waddell
wow sorry shut up captains of the atlanta thrashers name four oh my god they had one two
three four five six seven eight they had eight of them inaugural captain i believe was kelly
buckberger correct there's one three more kovalchuk was another one wasn't it was cool yeah
kovalchuk are you submitting that i thought he was you can't do this isn't you got to submit
your answer ray ferraro that's two okay what else you got scott melonby are you submitting that i'm
submitting that's correct do we one more kovalchuk you got one i think we submit it i think
submitting kovalchuk kovalchuk is correct yeah okay i thought i remembered they went through
a number of seasons where they had captains for single seasons wow chuck is one of them
andrew brunette andrew brunette is not on that andrew lad yes stayos uh buck burger stayos
ferraro mckieran melonby holy mccachran mccachran sorry uh holy kovalchuk lad i liked sean mccachran
except when he played in Ottawa
that I did not like.
Okay, scroll down.
Hall of Famers.
Let's pump the brakes.
Hall of Famers who played
on the Thrashers at some point.
Chelios, Rekihosa.
Chelios was there for five minutes.
So was Rekihosa.
It's a Wikipedia page.
I know.
Hey, idiot.
Hey, stupid.
Let them just give you the history.
Steve Stahos and Sean McEachern
were captains in the NHL.
All right.
I do not recall.
I like Sean McEachern.
Good player.
I think it was a lot of losing, but I think Thrasher's name should stick around.
And we're, what, half a decade away from this happening?
I think it's going to be less, man.
I think five years is a good timeline.
It takes a little bit to get a team up and running.
Because they're not doing it for this next little bit, right?
I feel like if they do that, then the NHL should hold off on taking their expansion fee.
if it's a five-year lead time it's probably going to be worth more in five in you know two or three
years if i were gary betman i'd be like yeah you go ahead and build that arena and then we'll talk
about the price and money bro yeah i don't get it uh they should be able to play where the
atlanta hawks play right now i would assume i hope so um uh and i and then and then they finally do
they get their own arena or did the hawk because they are talking about building one in atlanta
Atlanta loves to relocate teams to different parts of Atlanta.
Braves did this.
But I wonder if they're going to do some sort of...
Like multi-sport facility?
Yeah.
Do they do that or do they just build a secondary one
where they can build out a district and it's thrashers only
and then they make condos and Soto Sopa?
You know what I'm talking about?
I do not know enough about that,
but I love that you can say Soto Sopa
and I know exactly what you mean.
Yeah.
It's just sort of what it is, right?
Yeah.
So we'll see.
I don't know.
And last thing, you didn't have the Calgary Flames in the show,
but I think the Calgary Flames are important to talk about
because they had their season hanging in the balance,
and they pulled out some wins,
but they could have pulled out even more wins in the last week
with that OT loss to the Sharks.
Do you think they get this miracle done
and somehow find their way to the playoffs?
I mean, it's not even, like, just looking at it,
it's not a miracle.
They're two points behind a team that has one game left, and they have two.
Like, they have to win two games in a row.
It's not a Herculean task.
It's crazy that they would be passing the Wild.
I think that's the crazy part.
No, no, it's the Blues.
Oh, it's the Blues.
Or, wait a second.
Oh, no, it is the Blues.
You're right.
Well, if they win both games, and the Wild and the Blues lose their last game,
they could potentially pass both.
there's a world where the flames get the top wild card in the west that's nuts can you bet
very unlikely imagine you're the st louis blues you win 12 games in a row and you still don't
make it that's nuts well that's how far back they were right yeah also i think it's a miracle if you
look at the context of the last couple of months of the calgary flight completely agree with you
i think it is a miracle yeah i'm not questioning the premise i think you're absolutely right and
i look at it and i and i think okay if calgary gets in to me of those three teams they're the
team least likely to do any damage and i'm gonna regret that soundbite i'm gonna regret it uh i
think the st louis blues are for real yes i think the minnesota wild are for real and just got
injured yes i think the calgary flames are a team that refuses to bottom out and they're gonna build
a team around their next superstar which is dustin wolf yep and they're not gonna be they're not
going to be a team that's you know does what anaheim or san jose or any of those guys have done
i think that the playoffs have more to offer for the st louis blues in the minnesota wild
that's that's my take and so if calgary does get in it is a miracle um i think calgary blew it
against anaheim for me yeah they should they should not have lost that game and for me that
was like a real like ah you just don't have it yet yeah one point one more point on the standings
like is huge right now if calgary had that and they didn't lose an ot to anaheim last week and
minnesota owns the tie break against calgary calgary can't catch them in rw so minnesota just
needs one point to clinch a playoff spot and they're in and then st louis can just uh win a
game here but calgary does not control their own fate right if st louis wins they're in if minnesota
gets one point they're in so that's the situation they put themselves in by not getting that extra
point they don't they don't control their own fate with these next two games and one thing i think
is hilarious is that they were probably cheering for vegas to win the division more than any other
team because now that vegas has clinched they're playing for nothing tomorrow right and they play
against the calgary flames tomorrow and then their game thursday against the kings the kings are also
playing for nothing actually no the kings could be playing for uh positioning depends on how the
games with Edmonton play out.
So the Kings could be playing
for home ice against Edmonton,
which could be something.
I was glad to see,
well, for the Flames,
that they pulled it off
against the Sharks
because when I first checked in
on that game,
it was 1-0 Sharks
with the shots,
9-1 for San Jose.
Oh my goodness.
I was like, geez, okay,
well, I guess Calgary
doesn't want it.
But they pulled it off.
They've made it interesting.
Yeah, and the win on Friday
was the key one.
You're going up against Minnesota.
You grab two points
right off of them
and you gain those two points so they kept themselves in it uh i wish they picked up a
couple more wins earlier for the sake of flames fans but blues fans i think you're gonna be okay
if you can just win a game who knows i don't know i don't think he's gonna win the calder but this
is the most impressive rookie goalie we've seen in many years dustin wolf yeah it's amazing do
you know who the blues are playing off the top of your head that they're one game left uh nhl team
hang on um so no no nashville they are playing the utah hockey club ah playing for nothing
tomorrow they're playing utah so yeah that's the their season wraps up tomorrow wild play the ducks
utah plays st louis two bottom feeding teams against two teams that are fighting for their
playoff lives your team should be safe but anything can happen it's hockey oh man it's
Good stuff.
Good hockey tomorrow.
Yes.
Great way to put it.
Good hockey.
Yeah, yeah.
All right.
Here we go.
So, more episodes later this week.
Wednesday, specifically,
SDP will be back.
Oh, and we have an announcement.
Do we?
Not yet.
Is it that the Leafs
are going to play this weekend?
This coming weekend
and half the NHL will not?
That wasn't it,
but it's good that people know.
It's true.
Oh, the playoff.
Yeah.
