guys i want to start the show with the request normally we'd save this for the end but i think
it's important given where the super bowl talk started on monday this is from gary on twitter
are you guys ready so ready gary said i hope there's a challenge with steve dangle throwing
of football one day and so like what what we're hoping is that can we well no i think like what
is this because because you're not a big you're not a big football guy right i think gary just
wants to see you throw a football i think i can throw it okay i just i don't know anything about
the sport i i can throw one i'm not advertising i can throw it good i'm not gonna make the argos
or you know who's the best football team in the world it's the argos right
is it another one did i get it wrong am i behind the time it might be i think they might be having
a parade as we speak oh good so good good yeah no i think uh steve i'd like to see a video of
you throwing a football man i want to see a video of you throwing a football there
i will post a video of me throwing a football i want i just think it's a good idea is it just
throwing it or like are there
targets no there needs to be
no you need to hit
something you know
what are you throwing at
the old school
king of the hill you get
the you get the giant drum or
a tire you gotta you got a
tire you gotta throw it through the tire
fucking tire
how am I gonna throw okay
I'm throwing it straight at your
truck
i'm confident that my truck will be okay windows up and it's not a football it's a rock
and f you wow wow yeah guys can you believe spiral and will you uh will you do that steve
do you have a football i don't know i don't have one no i can buy one i can purchase one
at canadian tire or another establishment that would be good preferably a local store
and make it happen.
I want to throw one, too.
And I know Jesse will win this
because Jesse has the athletic gifts of a gut.
You didn't stipulate anything.
Basically, the stipulation is
who can throw the football the best of the three of us.
All right.
This is sounding a lot like Russian.
How do you spell best?
Spell best.
It's best.
I want to see who can do it.
Spell it.
So tight as spiral.
Tight as spiral.
Done.
There's something.
Done.
And you know what?
for extra points let your dog loose try to go full air butt on the golden receiver baby let's go
no football is bigger than my dog so uh no you get to throw one of those little foam ones
i got i got one of those little yeah ones at nargo's game once and i got a cheerleader to
sign it and i was really excited because i was 12 did did she catch it can she can your can uh
can she catch jesse waffles oh yeah uh she's okay
she's okay she's okay she's little so like if if i throw a ball like it'll just hit her in the face
sometimes but sometimes she'll like bite at it she's so tiny she can't do much okay she's pretty
cute she's very tiny except for it doesn't like bendy my dog who is mega waffles she's waffles
but bigger does not like her apparently yeah they don't get along that's okay you know i think we
can find a way for them to get along and my two dogs lays around all day doing nothing so it's
time to put them to work i think so that's what i'm gonna do degenerates tell them oh yeah get a
nerf football there you go corner living what have you been doing now um before we get started here
um the phoenix coyotes have terminated the contract of uh assistant general manager and
evp of hockey ops steve sullivan apparently according to craig morgan on twitter he worked
very closely with john shaka obviously we know what happened with john shaka with the whole
testing uh athletes before they were drafted illegally and the arizona coyotes being fined
a bunch of draft picks and john shaka uh being suspended from the nhl altogether until 2022
um steve sullivan basically and and it was kaylee sibley who does uh sports nets twitter account
who's really cool amazing she retweeted this and said posting the link with no copy is cold and
she's absolutely right they just threw the link up there and that was it well who knows and fired
that person too like i don't well i mean who knows what's going who's like man can the coyotes do
anything normally no no absolutely do anything even if you do need to get rid of somebody fast
and who knows what this could be about if it's about something untoward i understand you know
if we're talking bad stuff here completely understand getting it out there but even so
like it's just there's just every time something happens with the coyotes it just feels like
where's the function you know what i'm saying fast but fast out of like if this is related
to the john jacob controversy with the with the yeah with with the training or not not the training
the testing uh for the draft that controversy is a solid year old like it's this is not recent
and you know you mentioned the mitchell miller stuff uh when we were preparing for the show the
the draft pick who had the horrible incident when he was 14 and then the coyotes end up ended up
relinquishing his rights shortly after they drafted him that even that was months and months ago now
and steve sullivan was at the helm and i remember part of the conversation was uh that seems like
the sort of thing he could have prevented or handled better and now it's the middle of february
and they're terminating it what what the hell is going on and there will be no replacement too
so it's like they're eliminating the position so who is running the arizona coyotes well they have
a general manager who was the his name isn't his name like doug wilson like he worked with
uh st louis they have a gm um his name is uh yeah yeah i know i read an article in the athletic and
i was actually going to bring it up in the summer before something else broke there was something
serious that broke that prevented me from doing that story but this guy did that they did this
whole write-up about the coyotes gm it was actually before the mitchell stuff bro bill
armstrong that's who it is he worked with doug armstrong i think um and uh anyway his his like
the athletic profile on him i'm like this guy's bananas like he's nuts and uh like the i'm gonna
have to find the article where i have to go through it because it it was one of those ones
where you're like i'm i'm not sure whether to admire this or laugh at it like it's just
just so hockey um definitely worth checking out the most hockey he's one of the most hockey men
ever he lives in a uh a hotel across from the rink so he could be there at five in the morning
i'm not kidding that's a real thing sleeping bag no hockey bag yes right equipment is right so
i'm curious as to what happened that why today was the day you know why was today the day that's
what's interesting to me but we'll we'll worry about that a little bit later uh in the meantime
let's get to after the Leafs and Habs squared off last night Tony the Tiger and we're gonna find
Selly of the of the game really it's Selly of the game good so Steve who are you giving it to
it's graceful oh I was waiting for our friend Anthony um I can I can it be can it be and it
can be because I'm making the decision it can be are you sure it can be it can be it can I can
it marcus can be what a great celly i also remember marcus can be there tony anthony the
tiger um it's gonna be a three-way tie it's a three-way tie because i love first career nhl
goals are always pure but snake bitten streak breaking goals oh all those those are pure and
funny and we saw three count them three last night against the Montreal Canadiens Travis Dermott with
the most clear and pronounced wow even by hockey standards after he scores Justin Hall with the
very simple just he forgot he doesn't he does not remember how to celebrate a goal and Ilya Mikheyev
with the most childlike I thought this would never happen again goal celebration on what would end up
being the game winning goal, Ilya Mikheyev, game winner,
I got to give a three-way tie because for all three of them,
it was just so pure and brought me so much happiness.
And I loved it.
There you go.
That's your Selly of the game.
Brought to you by Frosted Flakes.
Great Selly.
We're really in sync today there, Tone.
Jesse.
What's up?
I hope that you have our,
we hope that you have your sponsor ready to go here
because it's time to get into Who Wore the Crown.
Oh boy, do I.
because you know who uh hit my inbox today they're like oh wow you know what people don't talk about
us enough so i'm gonna pay for a sponsorship on the steve dangle podcast and sponsor this
segment who wore the crown it was the mustache comb the mustache comb whoa all right all right
i thought you were going to say the arizona coyotes uh no no no no please no don't talk
about us please we have enough the mustache well the who wore the crown today is brought to you by
the mustache comb when you have a mustache you need to comb it out why not comb it out with a
mustache comb all right starting with steven as we always do steve tell us do speak on the person
you doth give the crown to well adam i doth give the crown to someone who uh i was getting a fair
amount of criticism about uh on twitter during and after the game and admittedly for not the
first time this season this person had a visually unappealing game and then you look at the score
sheet you look at the plays that mattered the most and he's all over it like doo-doo on velcro
and so i gotta give it to john tavaris who who beyond getting a couple very important assists
in this game you you got to watch the way he just drags other teams defenders away from his
teammates and then sets up those open teammates but apart from those two points he also got a
bloody nose because a mountain with a beard decided to fall on his head and neck he went
into concussion protocol oh not good and then he comes back and helps sets up a goal almost
immediately so my mustache comb ground goes to jonathan taveras
being a dad folks just say things wrong thank you and people laugh thank you jesse jesse i know
everybody's waiting in anticipation for yours but you're gonna have to wait through mine first and
then hear jesse's i know it's a surprise every time it's a surprise every time with jesse in
the meantime uh i would like to give mine to jake the steak muzzin because he looks like a piece of
man meat out there just he's all man he's all the time he's scary to play against and apparently he
didn't have a great game last night according to fancy stats however he did get three assists and
he is on undoubtedly the most reliable defense pairing that the toronto maple leafs have had
since probably uskavage markov i'm not kidding if this is a hall hall muzzin is a fantastic
uh story um and it's funny don decision actually tweeted he's like can you believe that mike
babcock looked at justin hall and said no justin hall i think has probably been the best defenseman
consistently for what he does what his role is he's fulfilled his role the best on this team
thus far this year and i think he's able to do that because jake muzzin is jake muzzin and he's
a fantastic ad not always the pretty plays nobody wants to play against him and three assists too
not bad not bad at all and and like i don't blame him as much as everyone else did for that first
goal because even though he gave the puck away it was i mean it was that or die because josh
anderson was out for blood on that first shift it was almost willie the first time and i had visions
of Patrick Laine getting decked by Jake McCabe
with the speed he was coming at him with.
But Jake Muzzin, he lived to fight another day
and he got three assists in the game.
What a beaut.
Producer Jesse, or not known as Producer Jesse here.
He's just Jesse here.
On Virgin, he's Producer Jesse,
so we can name tag him so everybody knows who he is.
Here, he's just Jesse.
Sorry, Jesse.
That's okay.
Hockey isn't always about what's on the ice.
So I'm going to take my crown this week.
I'm going to take it off the ice.
Because sometimes hockey and sport is about supporting the people around you.
And specifically in this case, your family.
So William Nylander, one player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, is not often on Twitter.
But he is on Twitter.
And we know that because your likes are public.
This is a public thing.
Like you don't have private likes on Twitter as long as you have a public account.
Everybody can see what you're always liking.
And William Nylander, who apparently doesn't use Twitter, is always liking his brother Alex's tweet.
If you go through William's likes, he has liked every single tweet that Alex has ever tweeted.
And if that's not what a brother is for, then I don't know what is.
So just this week, I'm going to take my crown off the ice and just show that like family comes first.
And William Nylander loves his brother's tweets.
And I support that.
i and jesse you're burying the lead with with william nylander uh first of all his uh username
wm nylander his bio toronto maple leaves give me the puck winky face but it's not the winky emoji
it's the winky face that one's mother or aunt would uh send to them but more importantly this
is his second uh twitter uh name this is not his first twitter name oh he was snizz bone
acting like we all forgot he was snizz bone what does that mean i don't know but i'm pretty sure
it's something sexual and he got rid of it so snizz bone no more but next time he scores a goal
he will be snooze bone we read a story from uh uh we have this uh thing segment we do on the
morning show called um jack's the love guru and basically jesse reads an email because we get a
bunch of people asking like love advice and stuff like that and jack's is the one with a brain on
our show so we you know make her the love guru and jesse what was the term that you used today
to tease the segment before we went into it.
We played a song, and you said...
Snoo Snoo.
See, that's the...
Instead of sex.
For the younger folks out there,
20 years ago in 2001,
there was a show called Futurama.
And Futurama had an episode
where the characters went to another planet,
and on that planet was a bunch of Amazon people,
and Amazon women specifically.
and there was a thing on the
on the planet where you could
have death by snoo snoo
and it's when you die
by sex with the Amazon women
and this is what happened on an episode of Futurama
so I like snoo snoo
there's a pit full of skeletons with just
shattered pelvises
first you will be made love to by the
large women and then the very large women
and then the large women again
I like that
this is a very funny show
I have not since I was nine.
I haven't forgotten death by snooze.
No, it's good to know the general maturity of this show.
It's perfect.
It's perfect.
All right.
So that is who wore the crown for this week brought to you by the mustache comb.
The next time you grow a mustache, why not?
Why not?
Comb it out because it's a mustache and it deserves to be combed and treated well.
Hey, God, be nice to your mustache people.
Hey, we wanted to mention to you guys also that Jason Spezza joined Scott Burnside and
pierre lebrun on the wednesday episode of the athletic hockey show this week so you got to go
check that episode out when you're done listening to us because we come first right thank you
although we love jason spezza we love his laughs and we love his hat tricks more of those please
jason and make sure you subscribe to the athletic hockey show so you can catch all the great guests
insights and episodes every monday wednesday and thursday so um let me ask you this guys
let me answer i have a question do you think you know because what would you say our our
main goal is with this show every week oh man to not have sore back by the end of it
okay all right because we're getting older okay fair enough entertain folks
jess what's your what's what's the goal with this show jesse entertain for sure
right it's got to be up there you know i would say the biggest stories in hockey
snoo snoo am i right boys yeah reference snoo snoo and get it in
with each other yeah over you guys are the closest you guys are the closest contact i
have to humanity it's great it's fantastic now let me ask you this have you thought about
the duty of this show we know what the goal is but but the duty that's right i said duty
of this show is to tackle the important questions the important question we missed
who is biased but guys the important question we must tackle today most important of all
how guys did the dominant second place montreal canadians lose to the underperforming first place
Toronto Maple Leafs how did it happen how does something like this go on do we need a Netflix
documentary on how the dominant king of the division Montreal Canadiens who were always
going to win did not in fact win against the team that has been objectively better than them all of
this season well I feel bad for the spoilers folks but what did that game and Deadpool 2 have in
common the juggernaut lost ah i love it i love it no hey listen though even if the leafs had lost
that game which they didn't by the way did you see it it was great i saw it i saw that they didn't
it was great even if the leafs had not lost that game i was talking to eric angles about this
when was the last time both the leafs and canadians were one and two in their division
this far into the season apparently 1939 they referenced it on the broadcast cool i missed that
little bit okay do you remember what they said i 39 no i believe it was the the 60s was it not
oh my goodness even so so they haven't played each other in the playoffs since 1979 it's been
an extraordinarily long time leafs habs games are always fun always yep always fun no matter if the
leafs suck and the habs are good or the habs suck and the leafs are good now they're both great at
the same time and literally first place is on the line when they play it's the best it is the damn
best and you know what makes it even better the leafs one leafs are best for now for now the
Leafs are certainly biased.
And let's look at this.
The best 14-game starts in Leafs history,
and we understand that that's a bit of a wonky one.
However, the 34-35 Leafs started 12-2-0.
44-41 started 12-2-0.
93-94, they won the first 10 games,
11-1-2 in their first 14,
and this year's Leafs, 11-2-1.
Pretty incredible.
And going into this game,
Leafs goal scoring slumps from Travis Dermott ended at 405 games.
Sorry, 405 days.
Ilya Mikheyev, 407 days.
Not games, days.
Both of them had not scored for a calendar year or more.
Mikheyev had not scored since he went down with the lacerated hand.
He scored that game, believe it or not.
I think it was against the Devils.
I think he might have had two.
Yeah, he was.
If you had told me that Dermott, Hall, and Mikheyev would be the main goal scorers
on a goalie and then hyman was like i would have believed you about hyman with the empty net that's
what he does that's the most believable one yeah it is the most believable one paul mckay of dermot
in the same game carrying this team sort of surprising well and earlier in the shift i
forgot to mention this in the lfr but earlier in the shift where dermot scored i was screaming at
him to shoot because he had a wide open look and he decided not that wide open and it turns out he
was right um i just i can't help but cheer for this guy we already talked about how he's a puppy
dog but i think he really loves being a leaf and you look at his situation and the contract talks
and how he's been sort of in and out of the lineup i can't help but wonder if it was a different
person in a different market if he would already have another team but he doesn't it's travis
and the toronto maple leafs i think this guy wants to win with the toronto maple leafs and
let's be frank like all the hype coming into the season surrounding miko letnan all the high hopes
that people have for rasmus sandin i mean it's not fair we've seen five and a half minutes of
rasmus sandin but right now travis dermot is at worst the leaf six best defenseman he should be
in the top six i'd probably have him higher than sixth um so it's great to see him finally get one
a guy who's always cheering on his teammates um and they had a chance to give it right back to him
you know and i want to talk a little more about justin hall's game like we kind of did mention
it in the uh in the earlier segment but justin hall has been especially when he got teamed up
with muzzin last year has become a revelation now we knew we knew that he was one of the guys
on the right side that could get a puck out of the zone zone exits on the right side were a real
problem for the Toronto Maple Leafs for a long time I remember the first two games that Hall
scored was like on the dad's trip his dad was there for both of them two games in a row pretty
sweet and then he went back down and and even though he had good underlying numbers and clearly
from the eye test was making smart choices most of the time when he was allowed in the lineup which
was rare under Mike Babcock Mike Babcock just didn't like him and wouldn't blame for no reason
and it's funny for no reason yeah and one of the great things it well of course and you look at the
play now and and how good he's been since and it's interesting that basically since Sheldon
Keefe took over Justin Hall's been this guy and he's the ultimate late bloomer he's like 29 30
years old and yeah draft 2010 yeah so like this is a guy who really fought and stuck it out and
shouldn't be with the Leafs still should have lost him on waivers should have probably never
he signed him should have this should have that and here he is he's got his you know his three
year extension uh but which he's in the first year of and he's playing like they were hoping
he would now towards the end of last season he wasn't after he signed that extension but it seems
like he's kind of settled in with Jake Muzzin and honestly Justin Hall's career took off when
Sheldon Keefe took over as the coach he did especially with the Toronto Maple Leafs and
he's believed in him for a long time and also as long as we're on this conversation Kyle Dubas
and Dubas has done a good job uh pillaging actually uh Chicago Blackhawks castoffs because
there was a goal uh the other night in a Calgary Flames game and they go Byron Fraze gives the
Flames the lead and I went there is a name I haven't heard in a very long time but fourth
round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009 and he goes through the ECHL never really makes it
the blackhawks just cast him aside and he was an echl loan to the marlies when uh dubas got him
then he ends up signing him to an nhl contract and i think they got about 100 games nhl service
out of him that's wonderful justin hall it's a second rounder from 2010 here's how everyone
got it wrong on justin hall he was the second rounder who the blackhawks let walk mike babcock
could not find any use for him and they announced on the broadcast a few games ago and i didn't
realize this he was a uh i think it was you of minnesota teammate of travis boyd but not just
teammate line mate you know why they were line mates because he was a forward everyone got it
wrong with this guy including myself because i didn't even think he was one of the leafs top six
and it wasn't because of the way he played i suppose it was the way he was used we're now
i still have not forgiven mike babcock for a lot of things but near the top of the list is the hall
and ojaganov pairing oh how dare you how dare you make me watch that how dare you well and and and
people say and they're right how do you justify hiring a coach that said no i'm taking ojaganov
over hall for 82 games it's not even hiring it's there were so many times forget the offside of
off ice stuff by the way but right right yeah beyond the off ice stuff this was a coach who
no matter how many times they said all were aligned were a lot this was a coach who very
obviously and publicly undercut his general manager read his boss at every turn he gives up
three very valuable assets to get jake muzzin and the first comment out of the coach's mouth
is that he doesn't shoot right-handed you know what i mean fine you want nick batan in the lineup
i'll throw nick stupid batan in the stupid lineup and look it failed because i told you it would
fail oh you signed jason spezza great i never wanted him here's nick shore like just so many
examples of the coach undercutting his general manager seemingly on purpose now there's actual
collaboration in there is Sheldon Keefe a better coach than Mike Babcock I can't tell you I I am
not enough of a hashtag hockey man to tell you what I can tell you is he is a far better coach
for the Toronto Maple Leafs he doesn't undercut his boss behind the scenes I'm sure they argue
I'm sure they have hellfire and brimstone screaming I've heard they've I've heard they
have actually so do we yeah so do we it's good for you damn it but like i don't think adam or
jesse are stupid at the end of it i'm like let's get a beer oh wait we can't because of covid
or something like that you know what i mean it's they actually have a coach who listens to and
collaborates with the general manager and it's given opportunities to guys like guys like justin
hall they weren't wrong on him this was a guy who i thought based on the way he played because of
the way he was used i thought maxed out as an ahl guy real good ahl guy and now we're finding uses
for him nick patan let's throw into the conversation there's a guy who i thought maxed
out as an exceptional ahl player we're talking every year ahl all-star game they found a use
for him in their top 12 they found a use for him as a right when they needed to on the fourth line
when they needed to well like when who knows when when thornton and robertson are back and
simmons is back but tan's not playing probably not no but almost definitely has been a useful
has been a useful player in the meantime if there's anybody that's played their way in
and jesse i know you're about to say something i just want to throw a name out there for you guys
travis boy oh awesome awesome he did miss a great last night but yeah so good i'd never really even
never even really i knew of him but i didn't know he was like that jesse what did you want to say
and yet yeah just nick patan not making the lineup is a good thing right because that means we have
enough forwards to cover that depth and that's what the leaf should be at it shouldn't be where
we need nick patan to play some serious minutes it should be like no we got thornton and simmons
and the rest of them to fill those holes and this is why you have him by the way you have him for
this situation it's just in recent years um they they were like ridiculously healthy and that put
the team in a situation that made it look like josh levo was literally in prison but like this
year thank goodness they have all these guys you know yeah yeah well and also josh levo was going
to play over mike babcock's dead body let's be honest oh yeah unbelievable there's another guy
where you're like man we could get 15 goals out of that guy like you know who would you rather have
levo or bc at this point and you know what let's throw another name in there because levo i remember
could not get into the lineup and i want to say it was a game against boston because i was there
yes this was the boston game where patrick marlo scored the overtime winner and the leafs had the
lead and levo completely goofs up at some point during the game and boston scores i think to tie
it and that guy got sent to madagascar because he couldn't get into the lineup finally gets in
the lineup and then he makes a mistake and we that was basically it that was basically it
pierre engvall is the new that guy whatever that is um but he's getting opportunities and he's
continuing to get opportunities and you're seeing him change his game up a bit he took that stupid
penalty that high stick penalty and i got annoyed it's his third penalty in five games for a guy who's
struggling to stick in the lineup that's not good enough but he's very clearly like all right i'm in
the bottom six i gotta do bottom six things and he threw a couple big hits that i didn't even know
he was capable of so it's amazing to see you know teamwork on a team and it's weirdly helpful
yeah yeah weirdly well because you have a role to play and play that role now the uh objectively
Montreal played a better game last night I think overall um but some of the stats some of the
yeah in the first for sure um but as arpin basu pointed out in the athletic and so eric angles
i think pointed out as well they have an urgency issue and it's so funny to see another team with
an urgency issue because that has literally been the leafs they've been tattooed on their forehead
urgency and i could say coming out of last the start of last night's game that's where the
leafs were at no urgency but what what's amazing about the toronto maple leafs this year is their
ability to kind of go in and go okay we're going to win it now and that's something we've never
seen before and shut her down and lock her down except for morgan riley temporarily losing his
mind for some reason i don't know the way at the end of the game was unbelievable i don't it was
like it was like flashbacks to jake gardner man it really was dude uh like what what i said in the
lfr today is and this is a little bit of broadcasting their kids you never want to be
the first person the camera pans to after you get scored on that's a really good point it's
oh mark asking whoever the director is in the truck they're like him what where's the morgan
riley cam right there uh so i i felt bad for him there um but sheldon keith after the game
um i guess sort of stuck up for his guys because i think he knew i i don't know what metric you're
talking about adam where people said the habs outplayed them oh you know they have those like
those like games that are like hot like the between the two teams that deserve the window
meter yeah yeah that's it that's it yeah so i don't i can't tell you how good the leaf scoring
chances were and let's be honest the three that they did score i i would not expect to get three
of those goals in a game against carrie price very often um but they did um but no sheldon
keith after the game said uh the leafs really limited the scoring chances for the montreal
canadians and they did how many truly dangerous situations like freddie's got to have the first
one in my opinion it's a scoring chance um the second goal is obviously a scoring chance it was
a complete disaster in front but like other than that i can't really think of many like situations
where freddie had to save his team's ass you know what i mean and he hasn't really had to do that
very much this season the volume is like the past two games he's had a heavier workload than his
opponent in that yep but the amount of times he really had to come up big pretty safe game
right and like the heavier workloads like uh the game before this one after like the three
minute stretch where the least scored was it two or three goals in that little period two two goals
and then after that then it's the other team chasing the least right so you're gonna have
a heavier workload because the least got this quick lead and the same thing happened with the
Montreal game the Leafs get out there and they get out in front and then Montreal's chasing the
Leafs so you're gonna get these more shots on Freddie so he has to expect that and it's not
just those two games the Leafs are almost always playing with the lead now exactly which is amazing
yes it's a good thing which is very rare I'm getting messages in my inbox like hey quietly
uh this is uh never seen the Leafs play like this and it's funny because no you haven't uh you've
never seen the Leafs play like this and and they're like and here's it always is with the
asterisk when's it gonna end people are like you know this can't last right it's the Leafs
now I found it interesting yesterday that Carey Price seemed to be the whipping boy with
Habs Nation with a lot of the people tweeting did you not see that I saw a ton of people tweeting
about how upset they were with Carey Price well he had an under 900 save percentage coming into
the game like that's not ideal no it's not ideal I mean Freddie was dealing with that too but if
you look at a safe percentage five on five it's a 919 and high danger 938 high danger safe percentage
of 938 now to give you an idea of how that compares to safe you know freddie anderson
and i know that all goals count i get that but um but freddie anderson's high danger safe
percentage is an eight 49 currently. Oh, now his safe percentage, five on five, nine 36, not bad,
but the carry price. I mean, I understand that, that the Habs expect him to be the best goalie
in the world. And he is the highest paid and him and Bobrovsky. Um, I don't think he's had a bad
year uh and i don't know i mean i don't think either haves goalie has um so when you do lose
uh i don't know that carrie price is the guy here i think sometimes and i'll be honest with you here
you lose to good teams you're a good team you lose to good teams that can happen and it's not
it's not incumbent on it's not on one player especially the goalie uh but it's rarely on
one player i'm gonna stick up for carrie price here because i think he's had a great year
and I'm not really sure certain why people are being so hard on Montreal you're second
like if you're a Habs fan you are second place in this division and any your goalie gets hotter
than he currently is and he's doing pretty well and you guys sort out whatever's going on in your
penalty kill um I don't know man I wouldn't want to face Carey Price in the playoffs if you're a
Montreal fan do you look at a goal like Dermott's and you say hey that shouldn't go over your
shoulder we pay you 10.5 million dollars to stop a puck that's sniped from a defenseman uh from
above the circle you know it's like do you get upset when you're when you're yelling at your tv
because he let in a a snipe from dermot out of the three that were scored that's probably the
softest but like that's a dart that's a real good shot really well placed and other than
Mikheyev's goal which was a chip off the rush like Justin Hall and Travis Dermott just wide
wide open looks just completely wide open looks and you're not getting a glimpse at how bad carry
prices you're getting a glimpse at how good NHL shooters are when you like you got to at least
you got to get a stick in there you got to have a hand on them you got to take time away like
Travis I think that's maybe the most important thing for Dermott and Hall on their two goals
is they had so much time an unbelievable amount of time you're not having to pick and choose where
you're shooting it uh you're just putting it wherever you want right as long as you execute
and nhl players given the time will execute whether they're you know elite or at the bottom
of your lineup right and and i think the i think the the i understand the disappointment from
habs nation but i think we got to keep something in mind here this team was 24th last year 24th
and um as as i told you at the beginning of the season i'm hesitant to crown any team that goes
from 24th to you think first place i just it doesn't happen that much in the nhl where team
not not only they finished close to last because that has come somewhat close to last but it's it's
rare that they even jump to the playoffs the next year so that's incredible on its own and we saw
the Leafs do that a few years ago but they barely squeaked in you you've got a lot of new additions
to this team you got a lot of systems to figure out they are playing well but I also want to throw
some stats at you the Montreal Canadiens have a record of eight three and one they are good four
and oh against the Vancouver Canucks this year they are four three and one versus everyone else
oh i mean that's above 500 it is well it's actually 500 it's one game above 500 and uh
i know that that's good enough to get you third in the canadian division apparently
yes it is that difference here is the leafs are two and over versus montreal and nine two and one
against everybody else yes they've played more games but there's a difference there and the
leafs have been trying to get up this damn hill and thank god that tampa and boston aren't in the
division this year because it's probably helping them um you know the the reality is i don't think
you can pin that all on carrie price i think the much the montreal canadians as i said a couple
weeks ago have beaten up on a shitty canucks team who are just lost and are figuring it out but
they're not going to be crowned and let me say this pretty tough to crown the montreal canadians
if they don't win on saturday pretty tough to see how they can win the division at all if they don't
beat the Leafs Saturday because here's what we're looking at if they don't win Saturday the Leafs
have taken three of the first 10 games of this series now I know there's 10 games left but
they'll have 25 points I know I know they'll have 25 points at that point the Canadians will stay at
18 and they will risk having both Edmonton who's played more games and Winnipeg who's played less
passing them in the next few days so you can understand why I was a little bit hesitant
and Montreal Canadiens fans were all over me.
But I'm right.
The reality is the Montreal Canadiens aren't quite there yet.
They might get there by game 30, 35, 40.
Doubt it.
I think they're a second place team this year.
Don't think there's anything wrong with that.
But I was hesitant to say, are the Habs that great?
And I'm also, I think the Flames are way underplaying their record.
I think the Calgary Flames are way, way better than what they've shown.
And they're going to figure it out.
with a team with jake markstrom like you see what happens to the canucks without markstrom
look at what the flames are they were the team that should have made it every year for the last
three years they finally got a goalie they're gonna figure this out well and it's gonna be a
dog fight and the the team that's really sneaking in there that for some reason we're not talking
about nearly enough the winnipeg jets guys who picked them you did and i was wrong and i was
big old wrong and there's adam with his big old right brain um so the winnipeg jets right now
are fourth now that's because they played three fewer games in the oilers they're seven four and
one and they've had one of patrick linea or pierre-loup dubois for one of those games if
i'm correct one amazing uh and they're about to get dubois and they're already seven four and one
that is a legit team and if the Leafs have a test coming up nine games remaining against the Jets
oh how do we get none of the no line or Dubois games it's that sucks damn it oh yeah but every
man every game against the Winnipeg Jets is a game against Connor Hellebuck and nothing
matters if he's on fire it's going to be pretty tough to beat the Jets ever for anyone two
things uh one jesse marshall's in the waiting room uh to talk about we'll bring him on uh two
uh dubois did play on not yesterday but day before so tuesday he did and yeah he played
versus calgary there's so much hockey he played like 13 minutes was like a minus one oh zero
yeah it was in consequence all right he'll be so we are gonna bring on uh let's bring on jesse
all right welcoming on jesse marshall for the first time from the athletic
jesse off the air uh you you told us that you're in the middle of doing something other than
hanging out in jerry seinfeld's apartment on the video side of things if you're watching
uh what are you working on man it's just like finishing up my master's uh just got i'm just
in a new house you got a baby coming it's uh it's been a busy pandemic there's nothing happening
yeah my name is jesse and i'm working on my master's and i work for the athletic uh
and oh yeah babies and houses and stuff too congratulations man uh we didn't know that
your uh that your wife slash girlfriend was pregnant we don't even know your marital status
to be honest yeah we're learning all the all sorts of things all the good stuff's coming out
yeah oh wow so we're excited to have you on it was actually a listener that said hey why don't
have jesse marshall and we're like yeah good idea big shock this week uh and and a big shock a
couple weeks ago with jim rutherford resigning brian burke and ron hextall taking over we're
to start with ron hextall as general manager and i believe brian burke is president of hockey ops
can you can you run us through what you know about the hiring process there we obviously saw
mike gillis's um presentation uh was it the powerpoint that won penguins ownership over
or was it something else that ron hextall brought in that that that got mary lemieux and the whole
group to get on board with it. I honestly, I think they went into this thinking that it was
going to be Ron Hextall. I think he was a front runner from the word go. It was just something
about, I think his ability to build a team and acknowledging, you know, the Penguins cupboard.
There's a bear and then your cupboard like got ripped out of the wall and there's not even
anywhere to store food. That's kind of where the Penguins are from a prospect perspective.
So we know that Hextall can acquire talent. And I think just the familiarity they had from
this time in Philadelphia, you know, they brought, they brought Brian Burke in as an advisor to the
hiring process, which I don't think anyone knew was going on behind the scenes. That was kind of
the big surprise, not just that he had himself kind of gotten hired after that, but he was kind
of serving as sort of their counsel, I guess, if you will, throughout the process. But I guess it's
not that surprising if we think back, you know, there's been rumors even in the last year that
they wanted to bring Dale Tallon in that role. And that fell through. Uh, and I don't know if
that's a Jim Rutherford thing or what. So they've sort of been searching for someone that can build
this functional hockey ops department from the ground up. And they, I mean, in that sense,
probably haven't gotten anybody better. Well, I mean, look at where the Philadelphia
Flyers are right now. Uh, it's got a stick in every Flyers fans crawl that Ron Hextall
is GMing the Pittsburgh Penguins. Um, I do want to ask why did they, why did they choose Brian
Burkett for a role that never previously existed? I think his experience on the administrative side.
I think that ultimately the Penguins have had a lot of shuffling going on in this front office.
And Jason Kamanos was one guy that left, you know, a little over a year ago now, and it was really a
big void. He was responsible for quite a bit there. And, you know, Jim Rutherford walking
away eight days into the season aside, I still think that that was a void that just was never
filled so where a lot of teams have you know really highly functional hockey operations
departments that are you know in tune with what they're doing from a scouting perspective from
a budgeting perspective from you know tying all these arms of the business together i think it's
a fair question to say do the penguins have that and if they're looking for for somebody to build
it um from a connections perspective just a name power perspective i mean brian burke is is kind of
the perfect man to do it um and i you know i think the initial shock from penguins fans was one this
is brian burke uh two he's had a lot of really loud things to say about the the penguins process
and you know is their window closed and you reconcile that i think and then the third was
is he making like decisions here from a roster perspective i think there was an initial sort of
fear. And once it became clear that he himself had helped to identify Ron Hextall as sort of
the leading candidate that everybody was sort of like, Oh, okay. There's no way that that's
going to happen now. You know, he's not going to go in there and railroad the guy that he just
hired, you know? And then we kind of started to piece it together from there. But I think once
it wore off and the shock kind of went away, people were like, okay, you know, if we're looking
for a guy to build a hockey operations department, we've done all right. I don't think the Penguins
make these two hires without properly identifying what they want and i gotta say i'm really confused
because like you mentioned with the prospects i think it was kaylin addison in the zucker trade
um uh the philip hollander the philip hollander and then the 15th overall pick uh coming to the
toronto maple leafs um but there's also this thing with money and they're trying to save
what do the penguins want uh to stay competitive steve i think is the ultimate answer to that
question um they i don't think anything they could do to prevent the perceived window from
shutting is of the utmost importance to them right now and that's honestly the first thing
that ron hextall and brian burke said this team we believe has the makeup of a team that can win
and it's not all that far removed from doing it we still feel like the star players can do it
we're not going to break this band up you know we want to evaluate what we have and move forward to
try to make it better so i think that's encouraging right if you're in the win now mode and and
everybody in pittsburgh i think is is fearful of what comes next for this franchise in the sort of
dark days quote unquote to come post crosby and malkin uh anyone who can a soften that by rebuilding
the cupboard while simultaneously not sacrificing any more of what's in there which is really at
this point, two goalies, uh, uh, Sam Poland and Nathan Legary. That's it. That's all that's in
there. So the pickings are slim already, but anybody that can hold onto those pieces and
try to continue this, this train rolling uphill, um, that, you know, that's, that's,
that's kind of what they wanted. Uh, the question I think that's still on everybody's mind and I'm
sure there, I'm sure it's clear as mud, but can you give us your best, uh, rundown of what happened
in the final days of Jim Rutherford and what the reason was for him walking away from a team where
he won two Stanley cups nine days or eight days into the season. So it's, it's important to
acknowledge too, that like we're having a conversation now that's not, I don't think
really happening as much in Pittsburgh, um, which is intriguing to me, right? Because you don't hear
people say Jim Rutherford quit on the team eight days into the season. You know, it's sort of like
it's a danced around topic and maybe that's something that you know is the benefit of winning
you know certainly i'm sure that carries weight to it but uh i think it was a disconnect but for me
again from a hierarchy perspective in terms of you know what jim rutherford was you know more
or less doing from a grand vision perspective how involved with it was he how involved did he want
to be in it um you know was he in a position where he had his sort of quote-unquote people around
there was a lot of discussion of you know well he wanted to trade chris letang and you know got
shot down from mario and we don't have any there's no you know real evidence to suggest that this was
over a trade or one particular move i mean the day you know uh you know leading up to this you
know there were personnel decisions that were going to have to be made for injuries and you
know i just don't think that it was something that there was one thing that led up to it i think there
was just over time just sort of the separation um between ownership and he and as his camp sort
of got smaller and smaller um you know i think maybe that that wore on him over time
there there were some suggestions out there that this might have had something to do with
there were accusations made against members of the i think it was the penguins or their
ahl affiliates ahl affiliate yeah yeah um do you get any sense no uh what were the accusations
just for anybody that doesn't know them yeah so uh regarding a coach down there and some
allegations of abuse uh and the question really became what you know it was handled ultimately
after a time um not i think as swiftly or as publicly as you'd have liked at all uh and the
question i think from steve's perspective was this tied to that and was the ongoing investigation
that is sort of happening and sort of things continuing to come to light with it on whether
or not the overall parts and reporting this up the chain of command worked um you know jim
rutherford i think was kind of just open with that from the from the get there's not much he's not
open about um you know he was frank about it from the beginning um i think you know in talking about
That's the thing. We haven't heard a ton. Right. But we have what we have heard from him, you know, is just acknowledgments that he was aware and, you know, did what he thought was appropriate.
So I don't think anyone gets the sense that that is involved here either, as much as it is just sort of that friction over time.
Now, when we talk about some of the moves he's made and why the cupboards bear, you mentioned the Kasperi Kapanen trade.
We can mention the Jason Zucker trade. You know, how do you feel like those trades have worked out?
If we're talking about a team that's trying to keep the competitive window open, it makes sense to trade first, seconds, and draftees to get established NHL players to play on the big lines.
Obviously, we're quite familiar with Kasperi Kapanen in Toronto.
Jason Zucker, for anybody in Minnesota, was a big part of the team for a while and then almost traded and then not traded.
And his wife was pissed, and I'm sure he was too.
And that was public.
How have those additions worked out?
and you know the Pittsburgh Penguins are sitting five and five fifth in the division right now
um what are the Pittsburgh Penguins what is their identity as it stands and is this going to be good
enough well it's it's it's right now it's messy I think that uh it's been a really difficult to
get a pulse on this team uh you know it's been a bizarre year for Evgeny Malkin I think at the
very start it was very un-Malkin like not only from an eye test perspective even analytically
through the first five, six games of the season.
I love game score as a stat
that can kind of sum up a player's performance,
whether it be in one game or over time.
Right after the first week and a half,
Malkin's game score had him 371st
in the National Hockey League,
which kind of matched what we saw on tape.
Now that's changed and he's kind of coming along,
but it's been Crystal Tang who's been struggling now.
John Marino hasn't really picked up
where he left off from his phenomenal rookie season.
So it's been a bucket of issues. I think the power play, you know, is probably number one on the hit list in Pittsburgh right now. You know, Kasperi Kapanen, believe it or not, I think we, I think you guys will appreciate this. I really struggled to reconcile your opinions with Kasperi Kapanen and about the way he thought the game and whether or not he could kind of keep up with things sort of quote unquote mentally with Sidney Crosby.
and I think it was my concern you know we know that the physicality is there he's got great
hands the straight line speed exists but it's when the play deviates off the beaten path and
you've got to make quick decisions that it seems like it doesn't come together
and you know we haven't even had to really search for an answer to that because he's just
either you know he came over late he had the visa issue got his feet went on the fourth line but
has just really had this nice marriage with Evgeny Malkin and if you think about it both of those
players just play the same style of hockey it's kind of physical north they don't overthink it
they free wheel a little bit uh but he's been a bit of a puck retriever he's been a bit of a
trigger man on that line and it just seemed like a home for him where he doesn't have to
sort of be in that mental space to do too much so you know you're playing with Jason Zucker and
Evgeny Malkin just go out there and you know Malkin does a lot of the work himself so uh that's
been encouraging but I think if you get on the line I mean you know we mentioned you know there
was a time um not that long ago uh you know where a guy like um oscar sunquist was just a prospect
for the penguins and he got traded for ryan reeves right so you kind of scratch your head at that one
um but at the same time you've you've got john marino on the roster who was one of the best
defensemen uh you know in my opinion in the national hockey league last year pierre olivier
joseph right now is the absolute revelation for the penguins literally keeping them afloat
uh and he came over and the this the phil kessel trade that you know a lot of people thought was
not going to reap that much so it's a mixed bag i think that's sort of the story of jim
rutherford's whole history right there's good there's stuff we can reflect on and
and say was great and then there's patrick cornquist right now in florida so you know
that's kind of the way it worked forgot about that no kidding going back to cabinet
the guy who was supposed to be on crosby's wing i believe rutherford even said how does this keep
happening to crosby i i feel like everyone the penguins bring in to play with him ends up playing
with malkin why and the one guy they brought in to not play with him and chris kunitz did
end up having the most fruitful you know partnership of all it's it's hard i think
chris kunitz would describe playing with sydney crosby as annoying you know uh you get back to
the bench and then it's just you get hammered with this constant feedback loop of what just
happen and like he openly discussed that you know a few times and it's that's what it is you know
he's got the ipad and he's pointing at it and you know he's he's micro analyzing you know
transactions with the puck that you probably you know regular players aren't even thinking of
you know that's what makes it work with jake genzel jake genzel is the son of a coach
now it comes from that background has always had that sense for the game and even in his
collegiate career was described as somebody who's you know very hockey savvy and very hockey smart
so it seems like he can handle it you know we've seen brian rust get in that role now and i think
you know people have said the same about him so it's a demanding position it's not one that's
just go out there and stand in front of the net and he'll throw it in off you uh it requires
puck support uh you know supporting him in the boards the give and go zone entries it's a high
level uh job in that sense and and one that i think is uh is pretty demanding what's your sense
of the goaltending situation since you know the departure of Matt Murray and obviously Matt
has not had a great season in Ottawa but they just are not having a great season I don't know how
much of that's on Matt and how much of that's on the the level of the Sens play however he had
fallen out of favor in Pittsburgh how do you think Casey to Smith and Tristan Jari have been
well yeah this has been a real pain point I think so you know the Penguins have what we call in
Pittsburgh sort of like these little hiccups defensively that can last anywhere from five
to 10 minutes and it's just a it's a wild ride right and she's got to buckle up and and you know
things kind of go off the rails and it's not been a great environment so i mean i want to acknowledge
that first it is volatile at times the penguins they love to play fire wagon hockey you know they
want to score that not much has changed with that uh so they've been under duress but even in
adjusting for that analytically and looking at sort of goals saved above expectation uh tristan
Jari especially has been below the line Casey DeSmith has kind of I think turned in an average
performance and and for that has accrued a couple wins and picked up a couple wins uh that's who's
going to be in net tonight against New York uh for the Islanders game tonight I think it might
be his net now for a while I've said that already though and uh they've kind of gone back to Jari I
think they're looking for ways to to kind of get Jari back and get him kick-started I think this
is the one thing that has been the real shocker to the start of the season uh for penguins fans
is this you know what has happened to tristan jari from that you know three four month run he
was on last year and the sort of pedigree he had throughout the american hockey league as well
um you know again circumstances aside it's really casey de smith has played his way into this
position and he hasn't been spectacular spectacular uh but i don't think the penguins need that the
average will work for them right now it's wild because a little over a year ago i was talking
at tristan jari at the all-star game in st louis right um that's that's not the only major change
that we've seen jesse i have to know what are you thinking of cody cc
i i here's the listen no uh i've i've had this like cody cc tracker going on on a nightly basis
because he is turning in i'll give you an example i mentioned game score earlier
his january 30th performance steve is the fourth best individual performance the penguins have all
year oh my god and he controlled like 80 of the expected goals and a couple of assists
so um i think you know first couple games were a bit of a hiccup and you could tell it was a
culture shock i think as far as the way that this team plays uh but you pull anybody in pittsburgh
right now and they'll tell you absolutely fine is their answer um you know they he has been
really forced to take on more than he can chew some nights i think as a result of the injury
situation the penguins have played 11 defensemen already this year wow um whoa kevin churchman
being the uh final on that list you made that person up so yeah the mark donks right the mark
donks um buzz fib it's cousin so but overall you know i gotta say he's he's i i don't think
they're asking him to do anything really other than just go out and be himself um you know he's
there's just a no pressure situation uh they're not forcing him to try to be involved offensively
he's making good first passes if you look at the the micro data around zone entries and zone exits
he's taking care of business with his gap control so it's just an i would put it as unremarkable
performance that everybody is like really shockingly surprised and pleased with you need
players like that yeah you really do set the bar low kids you set the bar low and then you
step over it there you go all right now i'm looking at pittsburgh schedule so they got
the islanders tonight who are ahead of them in the standings and they got washington next game
so they got 11 points the others have 12 they win tonight they're in fourth place they're back in a
playoff spot they went against washington the next game they are tied with the capitals at that point
with i believe yeah about the same amount of games played um do you think in this in this division
where really the only slam dunks to miss are new jersey and buffalo you get the rangers who are
nipping at their heels obviously the islanders are the islanders they've had great playoff success
the last couple years washington won a couple couple years ago philadelphia is on the rise
boston's dominant again um where does pittsburgh fit in here and and we're based on the you know
the first sixth of the season that you've seen, uh, or, or even less,
I think we're 20% into this season. Where do you see them ending?
Do you see them making the playoffs?
Well,
I think right now they're a team that's lucky that their peers have some
warts that are just as big as theirs. Um,
I don't know that this is as much as an attrition situation in this division,
as much as is that there's some teams that are still trying to figure this
thing out and just aren't really playing all that well right now. Uh,
so I think we got to figure out the Jekyll and Hyde situation.
like that's a big one because the penguins have been at times just dominant uh to the level that
we saw them play uh you know during their cup runs where you know five on five you know looks
like they're on a man advantage uh we've seen their top six run wild a couple nights without
really getting the benefit in the goal column uh so you know you get the sense that underneath all
this there is a much more solid foundation with a team that knows how to win and can put together
a full 60 minutes the consistency really hasn't been there yet they haven't been able to string
it together whether it's within a game or over the course of several so um that's the challenge
I think is is for Ron Hextall is how can we immediately improve this situation and you know
try to get this team over this this small hump to to get to that consistency um you know there
have been nights I think you know where uh the top six has really started to take over um that's
the makeup I think we all expected you know I don't think anyone expected Jared McCann to
lead this team offensively this year all year long um they're getting a couple guys back you
Zach Aston Reese will play his first game all year tonight.
So things are coming up injury-wise.
It's just they've got to solve these meltdowns,
and they've got to stop being really their own worst enemy.
And I think once they can tighten that up, they're going to be a difficult out.
I mean, well, this is the recipe for success in Pittsburgh.
It starts slow, and then I win back-to-back cups.
So, I mean, congratulations.
It's cool to cover a team like that.
it's never boring uh that that much is for sure either there's always some kind of diabolical
injury situation i don't know if everyone knows this but ppg paints arena is built across the
street from where melon arena was right and that what was well you ask yourself what was there
before jesse a hospital saint francis hospital the exact site uh so if you're wondering why they
constantly lead in man games lost it's because i've been trying to petition the team to have
some corners sort of like, you know, sage burning there or something.
And we got to get the spirits out of there because it's just supernatural at
this point, but they've kept it exciting, you know,
but it is never a dull moment.

You can follow him on Twitter at J Marsh F O F Jesse.
It's been a first time, but it will not be the last time you are fantastic.
I can't wait to see what 90 sitcom you come to us next time in.
And thanks so much for coming on, man. This is great.
appreciate it thanks guys i would like to one day have on jesse strictly to talk with adam
about spots in pittsburgh that they both really like oh i think we should do like a tour of the
city with jesse and adam you know what we could bring up jesse uh jesse blake that is uh we could
bring up google maps and share the screen on zoom and then we could literally walk the city
That'd be really cool.
It'd be pretty easy, right?
Yeah, that's genius.
A little tour, okay, put in this address and whatever.
I think that would be fun.
Steve's got something.
I was looking up Kevin Churchman, who he was talking about.
It is not spelled the way I thought it was at all.
C-Z-U-C-Z-M-A-N.
that is not the way he said it at all we're extremely confused churchman c c z i'm done
with it but to give you an idea to give you an idea leafs fans uh how up against it the penguins
are for injury he said they've used 11 defensemen for the leafs that's using either callie rosen or
i forget i don't even remember his first name warsawski who they got in the cap and trade
that's crazy that's yeah no they're digging deep they're digging real that's or morinchen
depends who you ask hey marty's a great guy i bet he is i bet he's the best okay i gotta ask
you a question is uh is patrick linea gonna play a game for the columbus blue jackets beyond this
season no never no of course not i don't think so how so if you if you saw he was benched and
torts didn't want to call it a benching and actually i have to give aaron port's line credit
because he's like don't worry in the press he's gonna love patrick line a but what we've seen on
the ice is patrick line a has come in and his first three games he scored three goals and
apparently he mouthed off to the assistant coach who knows what he said and he just got there he
just got there and so so here's here's the question and yarmulke line has got a really
and i i saw a weird rumor on on twitter about this and i want to get to it about torts
yarmulke line has got a choice to make here yes at a certain point at a certain point
you got to decide whether you want your team to be something more than hard working
at some point your team's got to be high skill and there's no question the columbus blue jackets
their work ethic is unimpeachable you cannot look at the blue jackets and say yeah they don't work
hard they work extremely hard except for pierre luke dubois last shift and and that's why i think
it was so noticeable it's so weird to see a blue jackets player just go yeah i'm gonna go for a
skate and i'm going back to the bench now and he never played for them again line a i don't know
what the dust up really was about and that's really sort of besides the point has been there
for four or five games he's done nothing but do what he is supposed to do which is score bunches
of goals three games three goals pretty great and they bench him this is a market that has
a very difficult time and portsy mentioned it as well with holding on to star power because it has
the reputation of according to aaron port's line it's a university town not as cosmopolitan as a
city like new york well nobody is and it's tough for stars to stay there they have patrick linea
in that he's a restricted free agent but that's it that's the key is is this going to be a jack
roslovich for pierre luke to bought trade unless you trade patrick linea and get a big old bunch
of stuff for him let me tell you as the creator of trade trees i am dying to find out because
this thing is shaping up to be a very long one actually it's a continuation of a trade tree
i believe it is tied to is it the evander kane trade tree can't remember anyway i know it's
one that justin hall is involved in anyway um i feel like john tortorella and i mean this is a
compliment you can give him any piece of fruit and he's gonna squeeze the most juice out of it
out of almost any coach what if it's a pineapple and it's all prickly his hands are so jesse his
hands are so rough and manly tough that he just goes right through it right through all the
prickles oh no the pineapple looks at john tortorella and goes oh my god that's so prickly
right you know what i'm saying you know how pineapples talk like that french show
anyway so he just you mean yeah what you don't know you grew up in canada you liar you know that
i don't know what that is you shut up maybe that's only for 80s kids it it was it's it's it was a late
80s early 90s show yes he's right he's right yeah i was just he always talks like we're freaking
back to the future and we're several decades apart we are like three or four years apart
you guys are in your mid 30s like i don't know how dare you anyway i am not in my mid 30s mid
30s start at 34 thank you i don't know how i don't know how mid 30s feel so wow so you're
still in my 20s kicking it neither do i you big jerk anyway steve what were you saying
john tortorella will take any fruit any fruit and squeeze the most juice out of it and for a while
you got a big cup of juice and then after a certain amount of time all you got is the peel
now the blue jackets aren't there um i mean i wouldn't be shocked if they made the playoffs
this year they're sitting in fourth in the division yeah like they're not a they're not
a bad team armo kekalina has not made a bad team even with the losses and i think part of the
reason that they're as good as they are is john tortorell but one thing we've talked about in the
past is this guy's got a shelf life vancouver is the weird one that's the everyone gets a one-off
that was the weird one but he had a formula that worked really well in tampa and they won he and
then he obviously leaves because coaches get hired to get fired and he had a formula that worked
really well in new york and they got close and then he gets fired i forgot about new york right
then it was a match made in heaven then uh vancouver happens whoops that's the one off
and the blue jackets just feel feels like he's not quite at the end of the road there but he's close
you know what i mean i don't see this lasting beyond beyond this year i could see it lasting
the rest of this year but i think tortorella is going to go somewhere else probably he doesn't
have to worry about completely rehabilitating his image yet a duos still hasn't really talked
about why he asked out but he does not have to do the rehabilitation job at the moment
that he had to do after going from the canucks to the blue jackets so i think at some point he's
going to be done his columbus journey and he's going to go somewhere else and they'll have a
bit of success for a while and xyz but he's got a shelf life and it just feels like i don't know
that he can squeeze more out of this roster than he is question for you steven and adam do you think
that if columbus wants to re-sign line a this summer they have to fire tortorella before that
i think that's extreme i think well here's here's the here's where the conspiracy theory comes in
along those lines jesse torts his contract is up this year and there are people suggesting online
that he's trying to be like nah let me go there were some online suggestions of maybe he doesn't
want to be the coach anymore he wants to win too much for that you know he wants to win hard
the thing is though and john tortorella must know this the columbus blue jackets are not going to
win if Patrick Laine is not going to score a bunch of goals for them they don't have a hope in hell
and it doesn't mean that they won't get into the playoffs they're not going to win though
that's the point the point is to win and it was interesting because some reporters in Toronto and
I hate to make it all at the least but somebody did ask Sheldon Keefe what are your thoughts on
benching it's been a conversation piece this year uh for a couple of teams and he said you know
he said you know one he said it's a double-edged sword because on one end you are sending a message
to a player and the rest of the bench but the other end is you're making the rest of your
players work harder and you are cutting yourself yeah that's when i is there no other way right to
deal patrick line a five games in than to sit him you do it after the game after the game i think is
the way to do it and that's the way keith has handled it is if he's been displeased with a
player's performance guess what you're not playing the next game or he'll issue the challenge hey
you were trash last game i'm putting you in but if you're trash this game i'm gonna sit you for two
something along those lines i wouldn't be surprised if that's happened to a player or two
but you're right you're completely putting yourself at a disadvantage someone has to double
shift like on the most basic level you're short a man and we saw how completely out of sorts the
leafs were in that third game against vancouver when they went 11-7 and then went committee on
the second line you committee on the fourth what are you second okay yeah um now imagine doing that
to yourself but there's no seventh defenseman there's no replacement there's no it it i don't
know it doesn't sign yourself up for that just because you're upset now and people will say well
you know it's work before he's not the first coach to do it no we're not going through the
history of benching we're talking about doesn't make any sense and i personally don't think it
does i think there are situations where it could work of course but i just there are other options
you know what i mean yeah you know i uh used to get rides to school from my friend's mom
who was afraid to turn left she always got us to school took forever wasn't the best way to
get to school let me tell you that is a real thing that happened i had a great i had a great
aunt who was the same way and she used to have to drive like three four hours to come see like to
come to like family get togethers and she would plan the route out on a paper map so she wouldn't
have to take a left hand the entire you should not have a license now it would take me three hours
it would take her four and a half and she did it because she refused to take a left hand turn she
did it go all the way around the town go around the town turn right right right right right back
into it but she got there am i right what you never had an aunt that took four and a half hours
for a three-hour drive it's what you sound like when you defend benching stop it right it's a
little ridiculous yeah so i mean and jack by the way jack roslovich seven points in seven games not
bad not bad at all oh wow winner hey patrick sexy ot winner yeah i'm sure he's thrilled to be back
home there's a guy that'll stick around but patrick line a has patrick line a skill there's
there's no doubt about it he's got four games he scored three goals that's a guy you need in the
lineup and that's a guy you need playing because i'm looking at the top of the lineup here and
we've got bjorkstrand textier felino roslovich cam atkinson right the highest amount of points
by any Columbus Blue Jacket right now
is Oliver Bjorkstrand,
who has 11 points in 14 games.
That's good.
There's not, no, but Steve,
there's not a single player scoring
at a point per game clip there.
That's, you know,
this is a team that doesn't score a lot.
You got a guy that scores a lot.
You got to find a different way to deal with him.
So I'm sure Jarmo and John
had a conversation after that.
But beyond that,
I wonder about John Tortorella's future
in terms of if this continues who means more to your franchise in the long term forget that in
the near term and i would argue at this point it's patrick lining you need patrick lining to stay
you're gonna have to pay him a boatload because you know that the numbers that they threw around
for mitch marner you knew like was it was it columbus offered something like 13 and a half
14 million i think it was 13 right so so patch if i'm patrick line i'm like well he's a great
playmaker but i'm at least that good scoring goals i'm at least that good so i think what
based on what we know about yarmo kekalainen is he will he's not afraid to leave these things for
the offseason so they're the blue jackets can keep line a and ditch tortorella all in the
offseason are the blue jackets better off with tortorella or bringing in a new guy probably
probably better with torts now but you got to change how torts is you can't have them alienating
people if you're not bringing them back here's what you can't have peter shirelli signing miko
koskin in two days before you fire i think i know what you mean so okay here's what i bet happens
the linea extension is an offseason decision the tortorella extension is an offseason decision
and Jarmo Kekalainen's top priority right now
is to see who comes out on top
between Elvis Merzlikens and Yunus Korpisalo,
who emerges as the clear-cut starter,
who is willing to pay the most for them in a trade,
and how can I get a trade that makes my team a contender now?
And that's what I think he tries,
because we know Jarmo is not afraid.
We learned that a couple of years ago.
That is what I bet happens.
He's going to try to win this year.
I do wonder, softly,
if the Leafs and the Blue Jackets are one day a trading partner.
For a goal-tender?
Oh, for a goalie.
A goalie?
I don't know what's going to happen with Fred at the end.
But one thing I wouldn't do is sign an older goal-tender,
no matter how good, to a long-term contract.
Wouldn't do it.
The Campbell Salo?
maybe who knows i want to read before we get into the press conference here because i never leave
enough room for the press conference and i want to give us at least like 15 20 minutes okay so
we're getting into that in two minutes but let me let me read something to you and i said remember
last time with steve like explain it to me in eight minutes it's 18 but that's okay i want to
read this i want to read this tweet to you this is from darren haynes who is the uh he basically
works for the uh canadian free press he writes for the athletic um and he wrote about doug wilson
doug wilson general manager of who stephen dangle uh doug wilson uh the sharks sharks yes right
that's right who you know had some pretty good wheels and deals in his day how is doug wilson
sleeping these days question mark eric carlson's first 10 games zero goals three assists of which
two were secondary minus six and a 38.3 stat percentage fourth worst among players with 10
or more games he turns 31 in may and has six seasons left on this one deal that pays him
11.5 million do you remember how much time we spent on the pending off season that saw
drew dowdy oliver eckman larson and eric carlson as free agents yep none of them made it all those
contracts stink yeah they all stink even doughty like hey well i don't care that contract himself
he was good for him he made more on a stinky contract he came on the steve dangle podcast
when adam wilde wasn't around and he talked to us so he has a great contract i tell you what
jesse no he doesn't
i tell you what no he doesn't interesting point well good robot
yeah i mean it might be the best of the three it's not saying much no uh oh boy though doug
wilson and sorry i know uh adam caught me with the deer in headlights there at the beginning
of the doug wilson thing i did see a bit of breaking news um oh what do you got well canada
way to go way to go everyone friggin well no canadian team has had a game canceled guess what
uh statement from the nhl on tonight's edmonton oilers and montreal canadians game
edmonton montreal delayed pending test results
so that is from elliot friedman as a result anything it doesn't mean anything yet might
just mean like their tests were screwed up yeah they're waiting how about i read how about i read
okay i don't know as a result of an edmonton oilers player entering the league's covid
protocol earlier today the league announced a change to the start of their game against
the canadians tonight from from 7 p.m to 8 p.m and seriously that was it i thought they canceled
it that's hilarious oh steve you really got maybe you should have read yeah i don't know
they moved the game an hour oh i guess i guess they're gonna shut down the nhl
you know they moved in now we're gonna start panicking you know i i read you're gonna be
that uncle that shares are you gonna be the uncle that shares q anon shit on facebook
first of all click the article steve first of all yeah people second of all i read some things
recently about how mean jesse and adam are to me let me defend jesse and adam by saying i deserve
all of it are we deserve what yeah what did you read what did you read about us being mean to you
where is this on the subreddit they talk about how you guys meanies okay also let's not go to
reddit for our information yeah oh yeah that's right as we just established a minute ago that's
not where i get my information seek the truth everybody and dress up like a goat and commit
interaction what's the reddit thread am i the asshole dear reddit i have a podcast with my
two friends and i'm not asking if i'm the asshole i'm asking if they are because other people on
reddit said they were mine's just called i'm the asshole you're not an asshole no i'm not a smart
man so uh so yeah so get delayed just some test results we'll see what happens but uh hopefully
nothing bad hopefully nothing bad and in ontario we're under a thousand cases a day hallelujah
hopefully it stays that way and keeps going down also i love our subreddit please don't be mean to
me it's awesome i don't read it oh jesse it's mostly i mean i don't go there but i love it so
don't be mean i go there all the time but i can't remember how to get into my account
well maybe it's a good idea to explain our friendship because this is how we are off the
camera too this is we have a constant group chat we talk every day all day and we rip each other
to shreds all the time because we find it funny but none of it's personal i hope everybody knows
that this is this is just what we do this is our friendship oh and i love the personal i love these
two guys more than anything else in the whole world i adore these guys i just we have to rip
each other can i so can i bring up something from the group chat to start the press conference oh
oh yeah i thought it was the reddit i was like oh no no no you i asked simultaneously i posed a
question and you told me to hang on to it yes yes okay okay are you are you ready for it isn't that
is it now time are we done here's the great thing about doing a show with me i don't remember so
this will be fresh okay okay so i saw this on the internet over the weekend and i saved it and i
forgot it on Tuesday, and then I said it to you guys today, and now we are here. The question is,
how old is the Mike Tyson you will fight in your boxing match? You have to fight Mike Tyson.
If you lose the fight, you receive zero dollars. If you win, you receive a million dollars for
every year's old Mike Tyson is. Example, if you beat a two-year-old Mike Tyson, you receive two
million dollars and for context on how old the mike tyson is you were going to fight tyson started
sparring in a gym around 12 11 or 12 years old with a pro fighter named bobby stewart so around
that age is when he started boxing how old is the mike tyson you want to fight now this list is
trying to trick you into picking 11 and i'm here to tell you no that's too difficult because that's
when he started going to the gym yes yeah that's when he started gym fighting we don't know didn't
he have brothers like didn't he like fight his brothers all the time i assume he had like school
fights i assume childhood tyson was a tough guy childhood tyson had man strength i'm willing to
believe yeah and that is why you got to go into the single digits and i am not i'm not a greedy
man in fact i think on the show we talked about before i think i could make five million dollars
work i think if you invest it properly i could make five million dollars work you think five
year old mike tyson come get these hands and give me my five million dollars but would you you would
be comfortable boxing a five-year-old listen i would not be comfortable boxing an 11 year old
or 12 year old even well but i'd be 11 year old would kick your ass well exactly so i want to win
the fight if i'm going to beat up a child they might i might as well win am i right folks no
i'm losing people very fast no listen based on your question i choose five-year-old mike tyson
come get these hands okay adam well i'm gonna galaxy brain this gentleman
because i'm not comfortable beating 26 like steve no no not 26 either i'm gonna say mike
tyson at one years old because i can make you know i like you i like working i like the jobs
that i have i love you guys i want to continue to work but i would like a little nest egg so
i'm not concerned about you know my financial future which is fair right throw it on a wealth
simple or or quest trade not like your dad you don't want to use your dad's guy with quest trade
yeah um it's like when i it's like when adam invites me over for a beer and then he's like
you're investing your money like a freaking dumbass you know when we're just hanging out
with friends hope is not a strategy you idiot how am i friends with you no i'm serious come here
come here you told me hope is it sorry anyway i can do that yo that commercial is jarring
he's like he's like i like literally dude i'm just coming over and congratulating you on a
condo and the guy's like hope's not a strategy you little bitch like it's just you told me
hope no no get off my peloton come here you said so for people who don't know what you guys are
talking about there is a commercial is it quest trade or wealth simple one of the i think it's
quest trade i don't and the whole thing runs in canada all the time i respect it i understand
what they're doing here is they're trying to get younger people to take advantage of their
financial futures and know that there are options available to us that our parents are not that
our parents didn't have so you had to go to an advisor the advisor invest your money for you
blah blah blah blah and their whole thing is we don't have the fees that advisors do you get to
control what you're buying and uh you can do it whenever you want you just pay us a fee whenever
you make a trade which is the quest trade model and so so this guy in this commercial there's two
guys one walks into the condo goes nice place the other guy's like yeah yeah yeah no my dad
i got uh i got set up on uh got set up on quest trade uh you know a few years ago and it's worked
out pretty well and the guy's like he's like i don't know if i'll ever be able to afford a place
but i'm sure hoping and then that then the commercial literally ends on this line hope is
not a strategy with daggers in his eyes and he's like what is this why are these two friends so
aggressive like it's it's just say and we assume commercial we assume the next commercial is
playing he's punching him in the face being like yes that's not a strategy you know throwing him
out the window that he's it reminds you know that commercial it reminds me of the uh this is a
complete history sidebar but if we're talking about punching a guy scottish history this is
one of my favorite pieces of scottish history you ready you guys ready what an adam wild transition
hit me buddy okay so scottish history the the scottish clans are very famous as they should be
and one of the things they used to do when you were eight nine years old is they would bring
you to the border of the clan's land and they would punch you in the face and they would say
so you don't forget where our borders are and that's what they would do that's insane
isn't that crazy anyway that was just hope is not a strategy
I just thought of
borders
yo the Scots are a different
I can't believe you can do that
how do you get away with that
that actually happened to me the night
that I asked my
father-in-law now for his
daughter's hand in marriage
and I was like but we're in Ajax and he just
wanted to fight me
that was it he just felt like it
so adam it is funny yes your strategy would be you get the one-year-old baby in the ring
and you lay it down or something you just kind of put your mitt over it and then you get your
million dollars yeah yeah because so i'm just basically saying what i saw from everly was she
she at a year old uh she was sitting up on her own but i don't think she could get up on her own
uh so i would think that uh and she can easily it's crazy how it goes from they can't get up
on their own two three months later they're walking and talking to you uh but she i would
say that yeah i would you're gonna give him a little push yeah let him fall back and then just
put something somewhat heavy on him maybe just your hand and that's where i leave it in a million
bucks is enough for me wham you wouldn't try it you wouldn't try it with a two-year-old doesn't
forget can you can you pin someone in boxing like are you allowed to i don't think so well i think
it was just i would say it's a it's a tko yeah i want that on my record too i want to be one and
oh with tko yeah well against mike yes of course you wouldn't need to punch you just have to nudge
but adam there's a glaring there's a glaring problem with your strategy what's that because
you want a million dollars but you also want to continue working adam you're fired what why
well it might have something to do with you beating up that child on pay-per-view no and
that's why we don't know in this world this is a sanctioned match and everybody's okay with it
right and i put the child on its back and i won i didn't punch anything yeah the joke was i was
joking about the punch but i didn't actually punch the baby he's not gonna really adam you
were joking about the fight with one-year-old mike tyson who's not one at all steve and adam
i thought we were being serious as a heart attack with this guys there's also another route you
could go that i would consider okay all right hit me all right i bet it's the most mean route
jesse's gonna take it you wait maybe 30 years from now you hope tyson makes it to like 83
and then you cash in your boxing match and you say okay money in the bank like wwe
yep you run in like edge with your money in the bank trophy case your briefcase and you throw it
in the ring you give it to the ref and you say i'm gonna cash in on my fight i'm gonna fight
84 year old mike tyson and get 84 million dollars now there's a hole in that plan guys
there's jesse run that plan
i don't know i got it at toys r us i want to know how much you paid
okay so you bought a not doll at toys r us this is jesse right here on the back just
ah just waiting to throw hands with an 83 year old he can't wait he cannot wait
So I think that's a bad strategy.
I'll tell you why.
You always want to take the most money you can up front
because over the course of 30 or 40 years,
because Tyson's what, was he 55?
You're still waiting 25 years to fight him.
So I would say-
54, okay.
So you're waiting 26 years to fight him.
Over that 26 year period, if you manage it properly
or you get a manager to manage it properly,
you probably can get significant millions from that $1 million that's unencumbered.
This is a million dollars that's just plopped in your lap and you give it to somebody or you do it
yourself, whatever you want to do, strategy and you, and you make that million dollars into
something else. I would much rather have the million over 26. I'm not saying I would get to
$83 million in 26 years. That's a lot of money, but the reality is you're, you're the one thing
you can't make up for in life is the time so you've got all this money that's growing and growing
growing while you're getting older rather than waiting for getting old and fighting mike tyson
and then being rich then that's my hope is not a strategy that's right also very key problem
you'll be in your 50s yeah you'll be in your 50s i wasn't born in the 80s like you guys
wow i'll still be young wait okay how many years from now is this
i gotta i gotta see where the curve is because this like okay maybe tyson's like 68 and he
falls off a cliff and then i catch him one year and i cash in my fight what if what if he falls
a literal cliff okay what if he falls off the cliff and doesn't make it and then you can't
fight him fighting a skeleton no you're not fighting you're not he's not just gonna rise
up out of the ground like a michael jackson video in this world all right jesse let's go
it's thriller this is thriller baby let's go
wow this is um hey uh conversation we've had possibly but not probably not
is there an update in the edmonton montreal game or uh elliot friedman oh my god there is saucy
minx uh who's been teasing us with a leafs winger that that apparently we're in on
um the nhl set out enhanced covet measures today including asking players to remain at home as much
as possible except for games and practices recommending household members limit discretionary
activities outside the home use of kn95 masks rapid testing on game days finally i actually
saw alan walsh tweeting about this they have not been using rapid testing they have been
they've been testing players 24 hours before the game and waiting for the results so they
finally enacted that so at no point during the season were they testing players on game day for
that day which is bananas so crazy anyway uh they're mandating all meetings be held virtually
glass removed from the penalty box i'm assuming except for the puck part uh like the ice part uh
there's also a detailed section on reconfiguring dressing room seating to best protect anyone who
hasn't had the virus and this is interesting the Leafs are apparently using up to four dressing
rooms right now that's wild so it is wild but you know what it's not going to be popular but the
nhl players especially in the states are going to be vaccinated sooner than you think there's about
i think it's 30 million americans have been vaccinated already fauci said the uh by april
it'll be like hey go get your shot just to the public it's like hey go to your drugstore and
get your shot by april so i think it's less than a million in canada less than a million
i think it's less than half of the drugs it's embarrassing it's embarrassing what's happening
up here but that aside um the uh the nhl players this you know pierre lebrun tweeted this the other
day yes we're probably gonna have to cancel games yes points percentage will probably be a thing that
they use in some divisions to decipher who goes to the playoffs or not however the issues i think
that they're playing with right now are probably not going to be issues that they're playing with
six to eight weeks and uh on top of that uh the rangers and the islanders according to uh and
sabers are now allowed to have fans in the arena new york state and columbus now allowed to have
fans in the arena again because there are people that to me it's like well if you've got your
vaccine i suppose that's the thing but like how would you prove it do you know what i mean that's
the one thing that we haven't figured out yet so i'm i don't know anything i'm not a i'm not a
infectious disease expert but apparently they're good to go with it so there is progress happening
whether you like it or not and we'll see what happens over the next few weeks but i have to
tell you guys i really don't think as i think we're in the last days of this being a problem
in the nhl divisions these guys are going to have access to this shot within a few weeks it's going
to happen please and the canadian divisions i would honestly though like okay if if we're at
the point and this is not going to be a popular opinion but you know how things work totally um
if we're at the point where fauci's saying in april you'll just be able to go get your shot
at the drugstore then before that it'll be available to nba nhl nfl mlb in and around then
you know yeah yeah i just think they're going to get an edge on it sooner and that's because
it's a public very public sport they travel around a lot on a certain level it makes sense
uh, you know, as, as not cool as it is for all of us to be like waiting for it.
Um, it's definitely like, if you've got guys that are traveling around, you probably don't want
them and their families, you know, at more risk than they need to be. I get that there's other
people in the same position. I can understand that. Um, and I'm not saying I agree with it.
I'm just saying it's probably what's going to happen. So, uh, interesting to see how the NHL
handles the maybe dying days of covid in our society uh but again i feel like by the end of
april this is not even going to be a question and that's good for the playoffs all right i don't
look at that when you say that i don't look at that as like oh my god they're getting the vaccines
and stuff i look at that as oh this is awesome we're coming to an end of this and like i can go
see my dad regularly again and hang out with my friends and go see steve like that's
when the nba players get vaccinated i'm like oh shit that's cool as fuck you know because i'm like
this is coming to an end we're finally well after a year of this on the almost on the other side
i want to be like hey here's what another baby looks like yeah i think yeah i think what the
i think what the because leo and everly have never met which is wild um the the thing that um
i think the thing that people would say to that is what about the disadvantaged communities what
about the remote communities but you know and and they would be right in asking that however you
can't underestimate the effect that public personalities openly getting the vaccine will
have on a society that for some reason, all of a sudden doubts vaccines. You know, we've had
vaccines for a hundred years, they work for a hundred years, and now there's been a gigantic
misinformation campaign against them. And I was listening to the news actually this morning in
Toronto, and only two thirds of Canadians are comfortable with the vaccine. And it's the older
generations that are totally cool with it. 85% are like, yeah, I'm getting the vaccine. It's when
you get into your 20s and 30s, there's a bunch of people that are just skeptical. And when they ask
why, it's like, well, no, I don't really know. It's just I'm not comfortable with it. And I'm
sure I'm going to get a bunch of people in my DMs going, well, you shouldn't be. But I think
the reality of it is, and just like, and they did this in Indonesia, I believe it was Indonesia,
Jesse, we're talking about this on Virgin. They put influencers at the front of the line to get
vaccinated because there are religious reasons in that country. A lot of people don't believe
that the vaccine is halal. And so there was a lot of people that weren't going to get it.
And obviously, they wanted to get to herd immunity. So it was really important that
they got influential public figures to get the vaccine to increase public trust. And you can
look at that cynically and say, well, I mean, that's stupid. But you know that if LeBron James
gets the vaccine publicly if you if there's a picture of lebron james getting the vaccine
people are more likely to get it that's just the reality it is so i think it might be not a bad
thing either nobody just wants nobody wants to say that publicly though right and it was indonesia
just uh fact checked it was indonesia okay yeah so it sounds ridiculous i get it i get it but
nothing makes sense in these times and steve is angry no i'm not he's got his angry smile face
no i'm just i'm just i'm so ready to look at the back of this yeah you know what i mean steve
you want to kiss me i would love to kiss you right on the mouth steve you know when uh adam's
standing to the side like not not like uh directly at you but like he's turned sideways and not he's
not not to the back to you but you're seeing the side of him like that like that and you can see
the side of his his his bum you know it we're not we're not looking at the back of this pandemic
just yet we've got a nice side profile of adam's booty and that's that's that's what this looks
like we call that the half moon oh all right this right now is the half moon of the pandemic we're
we're almost on the other side and it's very exciting because we get a little we get all
Adam's teasing us right now with this half moon, you know, it's,
it's like, Ooh, we could, but that is going to,
he's going to flip to the backside and we see the full apple.
There's anybody that's there. That's good with Microsoft paint.
Can we get like a diagram,
including my butt of Jesse's analogy there visualized.
We'd just like to see what that looks like. Wouldn't you? Oh yeah.
More than anything in the world.
Okay.
i can't wait to get together for a barbecue slash meeting with you guys
barbecue slash meeting number two and uh we had a live show planned and we had we were going to go
on like a minute yeah um and they were like hey uh when the pandemic's over you want to do this
we're like yeah see you in three months so there's a bookstore in kingston with like 200
copies of my book yeah we had a signing there all this all summer so i'm thinking guys we need to
we do need to go on tour we do need to do that so um yeah we'll do a quick weekend tour around
around southern ontario maybe northern united states when we're allowed again when we're all
vaccinated and no anyway no more uh shaking hands though uh because that's done in society we only
do open mouth kiss that's okay oh all we do all actually i would prefer if you just spat in my
mouth that would be great thank you cough into my lungs delicious no are we let's keep going
with the open mouth kiss yeah i don't recall saying that
two sentences later you're on the not with us i do not say inappropriate things here let's start
the conversation about the mike tyson thing you were talking we're all done so thank you so much
for listening as always uh we will be back on monday and pretty excited because there's a big
old game between the toronto maple leafs and the montreal canadians uh for tops in the division
