I said you stink smell. You stink smell emoji. I want you to know that I actually reached out to the Boston Bruins. Why? I asked them, I wanted to see if they would consider a Brad Marsh hand interview. Like their PR people? Yeah, their head of communications I reached out to. Oh, wow.

I pitched a segment and I actually pitched it out and I said, listen, we keep it lighthearted because honestly the back and forth i got a bunch of people texting me like they're in florida steve like steve uh no no this would have been uh yeah but like whenever they can yeah whenever they can like in the next i said in the next week i know you got all-star whatever and and the whole segment was first off we talked about the tweets i felt like it would be a lot like what kiprios remember kiprios called you a loser or called it a loser mentality on on sports but then he came on the show he said i come across as a big loser come across as a big loser and then he came on the show and it was like a really we had a fun time with it right so i'm thinking like it could be a

segment like that where you know how many members of my family wanted to fight nick kiprios and i had to tell them all you're not allowed to do that right right uh and also you wouldn't want to fight nick yeah also man is still made of muscle was he wrong yes it was a loser mentality in the meantime for the adventure yeah exactly so you cheered for them to go in 82 well he was also cheering they would have got mcdavid he was cheering for known as to go down i think too but but um i pitched it was good so i pitched them and i said listen we're gonna keep we would want to keep it lighthearted we want to keep it fun because i think that's sort of the point um and i said we talk about the tweets uh we talk about you know brad teaching us a little bit how to

chirp properly on the ice like how does he get under people's skins that sort of thing no way because that's his branding and then and then i said we would ask brad to promote any charitable initiatives he's a part of so we can get it out there and we'd make a donation or something like that okay i didn't say we'd make a donation in the email but we would have done that okay and i said i promised like this is going to be lighthearted that's what our show does this is how hard we have to work to get any kind of nhl access the response the response is i am on a beach right now leave me alone hi adam we respectfully pass thanks that's it that's all i and i just thought i don't i don't think the bruins are thrilled right now with with i i i

been killer for brad though yeah don't you think yeah i can't allow that no i don't i get it in that like we're not like rights holders like you shouldn't be exposing your player open to an avenue like this but also come on it'd be cool it would have been fun that's precisely

why they can't do it yeah yeah they can't be cool like I get it and you know what as a communications director you're

you love the fact that NHL players don't do what Brad did which is roll into one of the biggest markets in hockey and go pew pew pew pew pew

like he had a day he was like chirping Mitch Marner he was chirping you and they picked up two points yeah and they won

connecticut part of it no connecticut's a state no i know that but is it part of new england i don't know what defines new england it's like that's a little bit too much it's a region comprising six states there you go so it is oh there you go connecticut massachusetts rhode island vermont and maine and new hampshire okay new hampshire connecticut is a part of new england wow it's like the definition of the greater toronto area depends who you ask you know it's stupid uk britain england get it right well yeah you're opening a can of worms there because wales scotland northern ireland uh uh the irish republic they're all the same they're all the same i dated an irish uh woman once and i couldn't figure out which

which side she was from the south and then i had to guess and she looked at me and i got it wrong she's from she's from the uh uh what are they called the traitorous north she's not from there it's okay to refuse yeah i should have just said nothing got severe cut eye yeah you just go i'm not doing that yeah is there a reason that they have the three well because they're all separate countries yeah so they're all countries so why do we need to group them into three different because they united under the same crown in like the 1400s uh and definitely not by choice uh there was definitely some england going this is ours now thank you uh but wales and scotland are their own country and ireland when it was united was also considered its own country um and is still

considered its own country but half of it's obviously in the uk and half of it or not half of it part of it's in the uk part just watch dairy girls you'll have it yeah that is and then what's britain britain is the whole island a chain so it's like it's britain is a britain is more of like a geographical expression i would say it's like uh it's like new england is like it's several different places all in one i am i'm actually pretty sure britain and great britain are two different things they are that's so stupid because it's the british isles right it's the british isles so oh okay here's here's something i should know here like my grandmother my grandmother is from guernsey yes is that part of britain or great britain i know it's part of the united kingdom

that's the best i can give you is it part of england britain guernsey ireland absolutely not it's actually you know what country it's closest to france france on the channel oh well but it's in england i don't know you don't know i know it's called guernsey oh well our internet's down so i can't really tell uh you know how there's an island called jersey guernsey is the one that matters less and that's where my grandma's from wow i really it's the only piece of land in britain that was occupied uh by the germans in world war ii there you go they got it because it's right off the coast of france and then when did they give it back at the end whenever they lost the war yeah uh let me see here oh yeah i'm gonna look it up on my phone because i i cannot believe

so i have i think adam's upset right now i'm so upset if you're listening oh my god you should see adam's face is it because of the internet not working okay adam we need to have an intervention why haven't you done the very simple thing i suggested what is okay so i've got these pods okay i switched from bell to rogers the coverage didn't get any better let's not let's not that's absolutely let's not out names no listen i'll be honest with you the rogers rogers internet's been better here it has but i that i have an extra pod and i have a pod down there that's my kitchen pod and it's extended too far and steve's like why don't you do this and here's the reason i don't want to touch that pot do you want to do you want to touch that pot why because i'm not totally sure

i can install this properly and i'm and i'm i'm convinced that i'm going to mess up the internet even more and you guys are going to hate me even more gary's behind the scenes it's caused some tension alan walsh is going to strangle me from la he's going to be like hey he's correct adam you're okay that pod is too far away from your modem to connect properly because your house is very tall because we live in toronto you need to have a pod closer to the modem that can then communicate with a pod i know but if i have to but if i redo that then where we could what what happens steve it works if i don't what if it doesn't work though what happens if i don't i'm gonna be does it just connect do the pods connect to each other without me manually doing

it don't don't make me see i'm pretty sure yeah i don't know jesse could have this problem solved in probably 15 minutes probably he's he's smart i'm not i'm not all i know is i did it and it worked okay the pods weren't very all right i'm gonna i'm gonna deal with it this weekend i promise look at the spinning circle but i will only deal with it when jesse gets covered water for the table by the way it's on that side and we got we heard from somebody who does tv production today on twitter and they're like hey i do that all the time and we got an update what oh yeah the uh the mixer that i poured the water on it works again i left it upside down and all the water dried out great britain is an island separated from the european mainland on the

english channel in the north sea it comprises nations of uh england scotland and wales um so then but i don't know what britain is what is the difference between britain old old wooden ship i was trying to protect you because adam was throwing out the names of the blue and the red and i thought it was going to go in a very dark area because his internet's not working but it was wasn't as as dark as i thought so i saved you from being called by getting a phone call from ted oh yeah so i was like don't drop any names because ted might give you a call so what the internet says you upset great britain is a geographic term referring to the island also known simply is britain it's a political term for part of the united kingdom okay for anyone from britain

listening that's enough it is a lot that's enough yeah there are too many terms that's enough yep i agree i agree with that i agree how dare you um uh also i wish the bruins let brad marchand on that would have been fun yeah i i also want to apologize for last episode i know i wanted to i want the bruins the the bruins thing would have been cool but um jesse um along the lines of getting denied by the nhl we have a story oh we haven't talked about we have not talked about this at all i talked about it on uh some sports report show ah with my name and the jbsr yes the aptly named jesse blake sports report episode about alec manoa i did a fucking awful you mean because he's fat oh my god you mean because he's fat oh and then the broadcaster came back it's

like no you're not fat you shouldn't let me a stranger call you fat idiot i was like i was like is this guy serious bro you called him fat on national television and then tried to say don't let that bother you anthony recker is his name he's such a fucking knob like and he's been fighting a war on twitter with marcus stroman and alec manoa just trying to be like no guys i'm your biggest fan i just called you fat but like man keep working hard if you're making marcus stroman look like a reasonable party here you're in the wrong boat you're in the wrong boat my friend i you know what i gotta jack edward said sorry just say sorry bro yeah right what what is the thing with doubling down on something that's inherently wrong he's like i just want to see him in the gym

yeah i can't imagine why they wouldn't want us there but should we call the gary batman as bad at his job sports report. But, but, Jesse Blake, we keep trying. We're knocking at the door being polite about it. What did you do? Went through all the correct channels.

I wanted us to be in Florida right now. I wanted us to be at the All-Star game. And I got an email back from NHL PR Media Relations. Oh, they responded. And they responded and they said, your request for credentials

for the 2023 All-Star game were denied. No reason, eh? No, they just fill out, I assume, whatever automated form, and it spits out an email back, and it says, credentials declined, or denied. Okay. Yeah, so NHL won't let us into the party. I'm beginning to feel like this is personal.

The second time, by the way. I can tell you that the Toronto Maple Leafs are pretty good about us. They've been really, like, MLSC's always been really cool. Like, the Marley stuff we've done, or whatever, they've been super cool. By and large, yeah. If you want credentials as Steve Dangle, you can get them through Sportsnet and you could be in a scrum if you really wanted to. But us as SDPN, we can't.

At the NHL. At the NHL. I think with the Leafs, we absolutely could. With the Leafs, yes. I had to get permission from the Leafs to wear their jersey on my book cover. This is what I'm talking about. And they said, yeah. And they said, yes.

See, they're super chill. The Leafs, yes. NHL events, no. No. Yes. Okay. So anyway, so we're 0 for 2. I think we got to go for a third.

What are we doing? because i feel like okay so what do we got we got the stanley cup we got the playoffs maybe the stanley cup i don't know i think definitely we try for credentials at the draft we're gonna be the final shot you get the uh cup final no way why not what the draft they'll just shove you like in the stands they don't care no you have you have a better shot at that the cup final not a chance i don't think we get either to be honest i agree but i think you have a better shot for the draft okay i'll keep applying okay let's get the application the first one uh if you Had missed it was the

Outdoor game the one in Hamilton And they said no They said no yeah Not through like the Leafs media I applied through the NHL That was one that was last year and then this Is two were denied again Let's keep a track There must be a blacklist happening I'm for sure I'm almost

Positive and by the way now because we Said this we'll get it for like something stupid like the Stanley Cup and we'll be like I don't even know What to do what do we even do here we're not even gonna use It you know just sits there We don't go it's just like we're gonna call one day james myrtle elliot friedman blank space sitting at well so for the 2011 memorial cup i applied for credentials under stevedangle.com oh which used to be a thing

okay and no longer is okay um and where we were seated very clearly indicated we were like the last organization accepted and we had what we called the kids table because it was very clearly, okay, let's, this is where we'll seat all the children. Andre Osichenko for allhockey.ru. Cam Chiron, who was also credentialed under allhockey.ru and then he worked for the Leafs for eight years. And Julie Stewart-Binks. this year conor bedard and the regina pats sold out the saddlebone with 19 500 people there absolutely wild and one of our listeners was there and he sent me a video and he said hey man this is warm-up so have a look at this video in a second jesse's gonna pull it up this is warm-up you can't believe the amount of energy and for a for a game like this this is warm-up for a whl game i and for reference i remember working an ohl game one time where there was a snowstorm oh yeah so all the tickets um the team literally just sent out a tweet like it's free just come i remember that yeah yeah yeah and nobody did announced attendance i think was 700 and but if there were if there were 75 people there i'll eat my hat wow that's warm up that barn is hot

wow that's warm up yeah for a whl game yeah yeah yeah that is unreal um he said i also should say that when i went to the game where badar played in calgary back in october the lower bowl might have been half full and that was on a sunday last night was a wednesday and the difference in the crowd was crazy i think the world juniors really played a huge part in increasing the hype i agree with that we knew conor bedard was good two years ago but it's that i think when you you put him on a stage and he performs like he did how do you not get excited about that oh life's been weird um like his first people forget his first uh season in junior the ohl wasn't playing the The WHL was, and he didn't play very many games, but he had like three points in every

game and he was 15. Like it was, it was ridiculous. His numbers from his first year. And I feel like it was mostly just nerds who were like, oh my God, Conor Bedard. And after this most recent world juniors, yeah, there's no turning back. No, there is not. You got to remember, most people are not looking two drafts down the road. Well, yeah.

Now let me say most people Because I think people need that quantified You listen to this show and you project drafts Two years down the road You probably are if you're listening to this show But you have to understand that the people that listen to this show Are not normal hockey fans Normal hockey fans catch

Maybe a game every couple weeks Maybe they catch 20 a year They're fans but they don't know it Down to the decimal point like you do Some people don't like the broad Appeal of a like you need to it's funny you've actually made me think of the word broadcast right because i've never actually thought of it but like what is this show it's a narrow cash show it's a narrow

cast i've never heard that term in my life uh but the world juniors on tsn it's a broadcast that's right they're trying to appeal to everybody and that includes your uncle who watches it every year it's like putting on a free concert yeah and your uncle is not like two years ago he wasn't like how about the release on this matt vay mitchkov kid right he doesn't give a shit like but this year he knows bedard is going to go first overall it's rare that we have like a consensus guy uh and he's consensus all across the board if you run he's this spectacular if you remember the world juniors where matthews and line were playing it's because of that that there was not a consensus number one the leaves were always going to pick matthews but there was a lot of

debate leading into that draft of whether or not oh maybe linea's the guy there wasn't a consensus that linea was going to be the top pick finn right it was going to be pull your rv because he was unreal yeah yeah and when um when dubois went i i was at that draft for that and i remember being like wow what the so who's gonna get uh pull your rv then yeah this is huge and then it ended up being very strange columbus got linea anyway and columbus got linea anyway uh i remember kachuk at six was pretty high yeah that was a good pick and it was a great pick yeah um and then now he's gone too we got all-star weekend this weekend and uh you can bet on the outright winner we're gonna get into that with dave bastel right now you can bet that with

point i like that all right so i i don't know who that might be uh the metropolitan enjoy the analysis there wild but that's what i would do if i was doing research on this that's how i would look at it i'm looking at like the atlantic is pretty young yeah you got marner suzuki both Kachuk's Darlene, Larkin That's a pretty young squad, they're probably Going to have a good time in Florida The Metro, on the other hand

Crosby, Shusterkin Panarin Ovechkin, Ovechkin's over this He doesn't even want to be there No, and Kevin Hayes is old too Like in comparison Johnny Goudreau, Columbus Goudreau Probably doesn't, like he's probably not having

The best time in Florida, I don't know I mean he signed to Columbus for a reason for the nightlife oh they're they're winning yeah they're winning 100 based on your strategy the metro's looking for the south take the metro toonie steve metro all right all right now this is the one we've been waiting for dave we talked about this a little bit last episode we talked about it monday connor mcdavid total goals this season and yes one of them is more than 70 goals which is a great option to take, I think. Go ahead.

Wow. Yeah. Yeah. So as you know, Conor McDavid, 41 goals in 50 games. The Oilers have 32 games remaining. So you got to do the quick math there. The favorites right now, there's two major favorites. And I think a lot of it is, you know, well, let's just get to the favorite first.

So between 61 and 65 is the favorite at SIA right now. But there's a lot of money coming in on the 71 plus at a reasonable value of 435, just because i think people want to see 71 or plus now remember it's 71 if it's 70 it falls under the 65 70 category not the 71 plus so be careful when you're betting that at uh sia so he's played 50 games he has 32 remaining that means he hasn't missed any games he has 41 goals in 50 games he is currently on pace by math 67.24 goals see here's what i think hockey players love numbers right they love their round number he's gonna score 97 it's what no it's why we're so bothered by uh mike medano only playing 1499 games not 1500 right that bothers people easily

the most infuriating hockey db pitch connor mcdavid if you look at uh if you look at some of his quotes from yesterday he was saying that um he's never considered himself he said i have never been an elite goal scorer and dry saddle is uh disappointed in the season yeah exactly and so what i'm thinking is connor mcdavid in his own mind does not consider himself an elite goal scorer until he does elite goal scorer things which is why i think this year he wants to be in his own mind okay i'm an elite goal scorer now i think he's going for 70 in fact i would take 71 and over he's on he's on fire he's gonna need to do that if edmonton's gonna really find some good playoff position 70 feels impossible it feels it feels like a number that's unattainable and i

i appreciate we're not we're not so discerning um let's play what cj had to say about the toronto maple what an outfit i've been of the opinion myself and i i'm sure i've shared it here but in other places i do my work that the leafs are always going to be chasing a high-end forward or you know one of the more impactful forwards available at this deadline to solidify their top six i'm not saying that isn't the case but i have had someone reasonably close to the team that is not someone in the front office to be clear but someone who probably knows what they're thinking to a degree who has been suggesting to me that he could see them being a more impactful move on their blue line it's a guy and so you know it's just given me pause because i've kind of been

operating on the thought that we're talking you know are they going to go try to get ryan o'reilly are they how how interested are they in timo meyer would they potentially pay whatever san jose is going to need back to make that work but perhaps we should be focusing a little bit more on the defensemen available um because it sounds to me like they're at least a faction of the decision makers in that organization think that that might be the best place to allocate whatever cap resources they have so it's it's more just to to reframe the conversation because i'm not saying they're not in on a forward but i think that they're considering both it sounds to me like I don't think that they're locked in on one thing.

It's probably the best way to put it. I think that they're looking at, okay, we have X amount of dollars to spend. I actually gave the number on a previous pod and I was a little light. It's, it's been made to my, brought to my attention. I think that they have somewhere a little bit North of $3 million in cap that they can add right. You know, at the deadline, that's the way it's trending. Anyways, we'll see what happens.

There's maybe some things that can do. I mean, this Austin Matthews injury comes up, you know, I don't, he's not out for the rest of the season. So it's not like they can use all his LTI space, but you know, certain things can still happen to change the picture, but bases we're operating right now, they're going to have about 3 million that they can use. And I think that they're serving the entire market and trying to decide what

the best way to use that amount of spaces. And so I guess for, for fans of the team or those that are really anxious to see what their deadline looks like, I would reopen the possibility that it could be a blue line ad that, that ends up being the most of that space. And let's face it, the truth of the matter is I'll probably add at a couple positions. But, you know, let's look at the way things have gone. I mean, they've been using Cali Yarncroft as a second line player for a while

now. He's actually been reasonably productive. I think he scored his 12th goal on Wednesday of the season. You know, I think he's fit in quite well in a role there. And so maybe, maybe you just double down and you improve that blue line. And so it's, it's, I don't know if I'm getting like, you always wonder if there's a reporter, like, are you getting like pushed off the scent here or something with with this kind of info but i wanted to share it because you know i had a pretty long conversation with someone

who i think has a window into what's going on there and you know he was telling me that if he was making a bet so to speak or if he was you know trying to handicap what they're going to do he thinks they're going to swing bigger on a defense than a forward so that is very interesting it is very interesting and i've seen some stress seen some stress in leafs nation not necessarily about this segment sometimes i'll see people say things and i'm like that's sounds eerily like you just listen to our show or cj show or something like that people are stressed about that because there seems to be a uh perception that they need to go out and get a forward they got to go out and get the highest ranking forward you can get and if you can add on defense fine if you can't also fine

go out and get a forward and they hear things like this and it causes them stress because it's deviating from the plan that they set in their mind that they had no real access to i am encouraged by this and i think we can extrapolate okay kyle dubas is painfully and rightfully very often a creature of habit he has a you almost could write the kyle dubas character at this point it's so easy dude if he has a pick somewhere between 25 and 32 what's he doing trading it down he's trading it down if he's got a player he can sign to a uh to a bargain deal what major junior team did they play for probably the suse marie greyhounds or the chicago steel and guess what both have worked and both have worked

and I think who was the other guy Ben Revere Ben Revere and they won so many games after the All-Star break that Blue Jays fans started showing up to the arena saying we may never lose again Dude, there was an actual sign because they just kept winning and winning and winning

and winning. The 2015 Blue Jays back half of the season is one of the craziest phenomenons I've ever seen in sports in the city. It was amazing. It was amazing. And Dubas is a process-driven guy. That McCabe deal is somewhat exciting, but that's not really a deal that gets your blood pumping, right?

The David Price deal got people's blood pumping. We do this again next deadline. The impression I've gotten just from things I've read is like, remember, the playoffs are two months. Best case scenario, right?

As Leaf fans, sometimes we forget that because it usually only lasts about two weeks. It is two bloody months. And from what I've read, it doesn't sound like his body at current standing can withstand that. Now, maybe he's hoisting the cup. in June for the fourth time. And, and I'm wrong. I don't know.

So should Dubas get Jonathan Taves? Taves can make some sense. Taves camp is, that's fascinating. Um, but it all goes back to one stop shopping. And I think Chicago is the number one target. Now to make Taves work,

sense but i just feel like if you've got the assets you've already got like look at look at their defense like one to eight i've never been more satisfied with the leafs defense as it currently is then like our this defense is better than the defense i used to watch in fred acujo and belfor it's definitely better than used to be in pot man like this is the best defense this team has had in a very long time by committee for fans of other teams who are laughing the bar is yeah go look at the roster remember this is a team that played uh and no offense to him but connor carrick in his like second year was his was their fourth best defenseman he played with jake gardner consistently yeah man yeah and and i love the guy but yeah for sure and then you you look at um
