Starting point is 00:01:10 download that, TaskRabbit.ca, code Dangle. We're going to start today with a very sad story over the weekend. Jesse Pierce, who was 37 years old, three children and a dog, they were all found dead after a devastating fire in their Minnesota home, White Bear Lake on Saturday. She was a longtime reporter for the Wild. And, you know, it's a I don't know what to say about these stories when they come up. It's hard to find words. But we did want to send our condolences not only to her family, to her co-workers, but to anybody in the hockey community that is affected by this. uh it's a terrible tragedy um it's tough to see uh on on any instance but you know when it's the hockey community uh it's one of our own and so um i'm i'm out of good words to say there's a there's
Starting point is 00:02:04 a gofundme uh set up for uh in her name and and for her family so if if you want to donate to that uh we'll link to it uh down below and in the in the show that's right so uh uh that's what we got there uh it's it's a terrible story um but uh our best to her family her friends her co-workers and anybody affected by this uh rest in peace jesse pierce the steve dangle podcast with your host steve dangle adam wild and jesse blake it's not to start a show that way but that's the way it's gonna start um i i want to um i want to do a thing called choose your own adventure you guys remember those books growing up right uh goosebumps where it's like if you if you would do if you would go left in this hallway you go to
Starting point is 00:02:58 page 46 if you go right go to page 102 um we're old all right so the question is choose your own adventure mcdavid calling out the coach oh peros three game suspension aj career oh oh that's a Good one. We've got three votes in the room. We got Maddie. We got Jesse. We got Steve. Okay?
Starting point is 00:03:20 I'm not voting. As the official poll holder here. I don't know if I want to call myself the poll holder. Well, I would like to. I want to see who votes for what. And that's okay. Because, listen, we're going to get to both. But what do we lead?
Starting point is 00:03:35 I was not sure what to lead with. Best player on earth calling out head coach and system. or guy who's been in the news for the last week and a half has a beautiful opportunity to get himself out of the news and doubles down on keeping himself in the news.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Man, it doesn't do it. I'm... My vote is for McDavid. Really? I think that's surprising. I think that's surprising. Jesse, I'm going to hold yours for last because I want to hear Maddie's vote.
Starting point is 00:04:00 I want McDavid too. That's not just because Steve said it. I promise. Okay. All right. Jesse, what were you going to vote for because you've officially been outvoted? Yeah, my vote's irrelevant.
Starting point is 00:04:08 No, you got to tell us anyway. No, no. Who would you have called for? Who would you have called? It's very typical. They've silenced the POC in the room. Wow. We are now back in the 1800s.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Wow. I don't have a vote. Jesse, I would have voted for Peros a third time. Come on. No. Geez. All right. Wow.
Starting point is 00:04:35 We've progressed here in society. Wow. What is this? I went back too far. I said 1800s. Yeah. 19 something. What am I talking about?
Starting point is 00:04:43 It's not that actually not that long ago. Yeah. I got to correct my history. Listen, the quote is this. And later, Jesse has a dream. A McDavid post game on the lightning. They got a great system. They're perfectly coached.
Starting point is 00:04:59 They all know what they're doing all over the ice. It's impressive. They are a great team. They are extremely well coached and they're extremely well organized. they're very very rehearsed in everything that they do it's very impressive and when you break them down they got a heck of a goalie to backstop them and then ryan rashog this is from a ryan rashog tweet by the way i asked him how they can get that in place with their system mcdavid said that's all that's a coaching question that you can ask nobber uh sorry that's a coaching question
Starting point is 00:05:33 you can ask nobber that question obviously we got to work on that nickname we yeah nobber is a rough obviously we've been playing together a long time and we feel like we're somewhat rehearsed and organized but not to their level so we've we've opened pandora's box connor mcdavid has seen the other side and the other side is being coached by john cooper which is something that i think a lot of people have missed in all this it's just mcdavid knoblock mcdavid knoblock guys he's complimenting a coach who a month ago was his coach less than a month ago john cooper was connor mcdavid's coach he's won with john cooper last year at the four nation face-off i i don't think he's hammering a coach that like let's be honest chris knobloch has done
Starting point is 00:06:26 an incredible job with the edmonton oilers the only reason he's there is connor that was his junior coach yeah they brought him in for that reason we were like okay you're getting rid of jay woodcroft who you've done very well with and you're bringing in his junior coach that's silly worked out and naked and transparent and yeah and then they basically didn't lose under the guy um except for when it came to the stanley cup final um i thought something truly ridiculous when I read that quote and I wondered they're not going to but I wondered if the Oilers even considered going Lou Lamorello old school and gassing their coach now Lou Lamorello has done that Lou Lamorello if I remember correctly I thought it was Jacques Lemaire let me or maybe
Starting point is 00:07:18 it was Robbie Futura I don't know or Jacques Lemaire he fired his coach with I think it was three games left and before the playoff over his coach by the way he's sorry lou took over his coach okay so maybe that's that's okay maybe he did it more than once i don't know um but which like that's an insane thing to do and that guy's in the hall of fame no one is going to do it this day and age in 2026 unless the team that no conventional rules seem to apply to decide to give it a try because that that wasn't a shot across the bow that was a friggin bazooka that's awkward times in edmonton this is from 2007 april 2nd april they fire their coach in april um and this is from the associated press having the new jersey devils in first
Starting point is 00:08:11 place in the atlantic division first but in the atlantic division that's right with a week to go in the regular season got Claude Julien fired Monday. Sounds strange. When you work for general manager Lou Lamorello, it's all about winning cups. The feeling was that
Starting point is 00:08:25 Julien was not ready to make a cup run with the playoffs scheduled to start next week. Lamorello fired him on Monday and took over behind the bench for a second straight year. He replaced Larry Robinson
Starting point is 00:08:37 as coach December 19th, 2005 and would not say at that point whether Julien would remain with the organization. So he did this twice in two years. Dude, and he fired Larry Robinson. One of the best defensemen of all time.
Starting point is 00:08:51 And Claude Julien, who's had a very successful NHL career as coach. Yeah. Like, he didn't just fire two randoms. I don't know. Like, again, we're going on a side quest here. I don't think the Oilers do that, but there are a few teams where we're just talking about them almost disrespectful of the rest of the league where we're like yeah they're playing poorly but they're gonna get it together the oilers are really running out of runway here to
Starting point is 00:09:23 to get it together jesse do you want to play the mcdavid i know you read them do you want to hear it from you know sometimes when you sometimes when you read a quote and then you hear the guy say it it's a little different i think it's worth it all right great obviously playing on a great team with a great a lot of great players over there um they got a great system they're perfectly coached um they all know what they're doing um all over the ice it's impressive um they're a great team is it frustrated you feel maybe you guys were frustrated tonight as far as you talk about what they were doing did they do anything to frustrate or limit you oh i don't think so i thought uh you know playing against a team like tampia you know you're going
Starting point is 00:10:09 spend some time in the D zone and, and, uh, and we did that. I thought we were comfortable in the D zone and, um, trying to, trying to score on counters and stuff like that against, you know, but, um, I forgot your question. What was your question? You know, they're defending hard. Yeah. No, they're good. They're good. Obviously. Very good. As I said, they're extremely well coached. They're extremely well organized. They're very, very, uh, rehearsed and everything that they do. So it's very impressive, very, very impressive. And when you do break them down, they got a heck of a goalie to backstop them. Is that just a bunch of time doing the same things over and over again?
Starting point is 00:10:47 Like, how do you guys get to that, to be that rehearsed, to have that system you can rely on and all those things? Where does that come from? How do you guys get there? Yeah, well, that's a coaching question. You can ask Nauber that question. You know, obviously, we've been playing together a long time, and we feel like we're somewhat rehearsed and organized, but not to their level.
Starting point is 00:11:09 No, no, I think it sounds like it reads. Well, you know what I got from that, Jess? Yeah. I got a little bit of the depression. Yeah. That's their captain, man. I think it's important to hear that because you understand where he's coming from post-game.
Starting point is 00:11:25 And I'm not of the belief that if Connor McDavid wants to get Chris Knobloch fired, he's going to do it in a post-game scrum with Mark Spector. He could just walk in a stands room. That's not what that is for. That's not what he's going to do in that moment after a game. If he wants to get Knobloch fired, he goes and he tells Judd Moldaver to do something about it.
Starting point is 00:11:50 And then the offseason or whenever they have conversations with the front office and they do all their maneuvering and they say they're unhappy. And then if he really wants to get Chris Knobloch fired or tell the that he's unhappy he's gonna leave when he has the opportunity to if they don't do something if they don't do something about it which they would so in this moment here i believe that's just frustration after a tough loss to tampa compiled on a season of they've never had a streak of winning anything they they haven't been able to put anything together consistently for weeks at of time this year and i think there he's slowly realizing against the top teams in this league
Starting point is 00:12:31 we don't have it this year because that's what tampa is and they got out class so he's calling everyone out there he's calling out his own teammates the coaching staff the front office everything around him because mcdavid knows what he is he's one of the best players in the world right now probably the greatest hockey player we have playing hockey right now he's him so he's upset at everything i don't think it's directly at knob block no i i agree with you it felt to me like a challenge to knob block but a challenge to everybody else too like he needs knob block to take the leadership role of a coach and because it's mcdavid's job to be the leader of the team and that to me is leadership i really like that he was on they aren't good enough no i
Starting point is 00:13:12 think we can all agree there he went on to say in that same press conference that the pacific divisions a pillow fight which I thought was such a beautiful way of illustrating it it sucks and they can't Vegas beat Dallas yeah there you go well there yeah oh that's good for them I I look at I I think that that is him going okay other leader in room coach right uh I need you to iron out some of the deficiencies deficiencies in our roster and and Jesse you make a point uh about is McDavid the best player in the world right now yes probably over this year absolutely but in the last week it's nikita kucherov um he has he has 12 points in his past three games no if we're talking about like the best player right now it is kucherov and he has been that
Starting point is 00:13:55 yeah since uh the start of january he has more points than a lot of teams like top point getters have all season long i saw that he's gonna win the heart trophy running away but when i'm talking about mcdavid being the best player in the world talking about like the skilled aspect of hockey He's probably he's the most talented player we have. But we're talking heart trophy this year. It's Kucherov. It's the guy on the other end of the ice. And McDavid sees that.
Starting point is 00:14:18 And how does he not be pissed off? Well, and it's Vasilevsky. And Vasilevsky allowed probably the worst goal of his career. And it still wasn't enough. You see Vasilevsky in the other net. And then you turn around and behind you is Conor Ingram. And you can't help but be a little disappointed. Behind you is Conor Ingram.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Best case scenario. Yeah. And then you look at the bench and you're like, oh, that's just in jari backing up him yeah well and we can always call it pickard oh oh no we can't yeah well because of the captain crunch right although i the dry saddle stuff is complicated mcdavid too you know the one thing i will say it too on the ice is that he um he backed up his performance not only did he score the opening goal but he he's like fighting like oh yeah you know and it's pot is holmberg of all people but you know there's there got laid out too that was
Starting point is 00:15:06 a rough game for connor it it's a he it's not as though he's not giving it i think what's amazing watching this as a leaf fan is that you're like oh what oh you guys aren't no no not that's a different story you guys aren't good but we're not good either you're not sorry we're worse than you way worse let me just say that sure but we've had bad streaks and i've had you know i've watched these press conferences the thing i see with connor that i haven't seen from leaf's leadership any of them sure is that kind of fire uh-huh and i like that kind of fire and you could tell me while john's not wired that way and austin's not wired that way and i'm not trying to make this about the leafs i need somebody who is yes and connor is and that's what makes him
Starting point is 00:15:50 so great what makes nathan so great it's what makes nikita so great they have that extra psychotic gear if and connor will do anything if your leader if your captain is not wired that way he needs to be surrounded by people who are because i don't barkoff's not crazy but people around him are crazy exactly he's the perfect example no he looks like a deity uh surrounded by the guys he's surrounded by gabriel landis cog a little bit there's a little bit there i mean anyone looks perfectly sane next to nate um and i mean the lightning the lightning are just they're all crazy full of crazy and guys who are not afraid of you and at the centerpiece it's headman right a lot of people forget he's the captain of that team now um connor especially with leon
Starting point is 00:16:39 not only not in the lineup but in europe um he's got to feel like he's on a bit of an island right now so there's a greater than zero percent chance they miss i don't think they're gonna i don't think they're gonna like the playoffs entirely no i don't think they're gonna no it's greater than zero sure but like how much greater they haven't clinched yet so you're factually correct man the Canucks became the first team to get eliminated last night the Canucks were eliminated last night yeah it's because the NHL loves loser points whole Dallas and Colorado clinched this weekend on 69 weekend oh there you go everything's being propped up it's ridiculous um but Jess one of the questions I asked last week because the Oilers were struggling it's like well this
Starting point is 00:17:22 is wrong and this is wrong and this is wrong but does it matter and we all kind of have said this all year where it's like yeah well like it hasn't worked yet but yeah bouchard's not playing the best defense or him and nurse aren't playing but we've all seen them do it we see them do it year after year after year are we not going to see that this year i think i think we've reached a point where it does 100 matter like this year so far the oilers are winless when conor mcdavid doesn't record a point there just isn't the same team that we've seen the last couple years where they go on those runs and we're like okay they've struggled at times but we're confident that everything can get together eventually you are what you are and if you're a team that can't string anything
Starting point is 00:18:05 together and play consistently then that's what you are and i'm not taking them in a matchup against any of the central division teams certainly not they it's it's so wonky this stupid pacific division and how bad it is this year that they might have a free pass to the second round because i'll probably i'll take them against if they're in that two three matchup i'll take them against that two three right now it's vegas it's vegas like that's a fascinating match i want them against vegas every day of the week so you guys take them versus vegas just to be clear vegas doesn't have goaltending they can't score like last night okay it was good they got that victory against dallas but that doesn't spark confidence in me at all um i haven't seen vegas do
Starting point is 00:18:47 it so i'll take edmonton that matchup but if edmonton like fell to the wild card spot and then they have to play a pacific central division team if they're in the second wild card or whatever it is i don't want them in the first round and if there's a second round then they're playing the central uh depending on how that all shakes out i don't want them there but i want nothing to do with utah winning a couple free rounds if they stick in that pacific division thing yeah they might be they might just find themselves all willy-nilly into the conference finals and then we look at the season a little differently but we should also judge it with the context of they got to go through this really bad division that that is one of the fun things like i've done a lot of
Starting point is 00:19:28 historical stuff and uh if you go a certain distance you're just like well that was a good season it was you have to dig you have to dig sometimes and you know like oh the oilers fired their coach after making it to the conference final which is definitely something that could happen right here we would look at them and be like that's crazy why would they do that a few years from now but all of us living in the moment right now we're like i understand it at very least they are desperate to win now and any do you realize anything other than winning the stanley cup is a step backward for them yeah like that's crazy that's that's quite a bar and when people talk about pressure in this league that's pressure and i don't have
Starting point is 00:20:14 them in that stanley cup conversation right now if you're doing the circle of teams that are like the true i have the five teams that are going to win the cup this year i have the oilers on the outside do you have the lightning in it yes now let me oh yeah let me give you this quote because this is a great one sure brandon hangel this morning and i think it adds to the conversation oh please this depresses me so much um i wouldn't say we're the biggest team but i know every guy in this room will leave with a black eye when you've got a bunch of those guys on your team you know everybody's got your back it's fun to see and i think we've been doing it all year and he has been and they have been and they've been doing it for years like last year i you know
Starting point is 00:20:51 they did get run over by the panthers but there was they still never didn't fight they never gave up there was concussions there were suspensions there was this there was that but and there was injuries as well we know that vasilevsky had crazy surgery we know headman's been hurt someone's gonna win someone's gonna lose but you have a say in in how it all goes down i don't hear the oilers talking like that certainly not the leafs even in the best case scenario which was last year for the leafs nobody talked like that no that's how winners talk that's how winners talk that's a winner's attitude and if you don't have that attitude you're not as interested in winning as you thought that's how it is it's and that series against dallas last year in the
Starting point is 00:21:32 conference finals we forget like they were really good they that didn't go the distance they took care of business and i know the uh king series doesn't really count because that's like a free square on your bingo card it's like we get through the first round there yeah not the way it went down it was four one yeah yeah because they have the worst coach in the world yeah and he should be unemployed forever and he'll be working for the leafs by september again heller was he a leaf guy oh yeah oh great is that where he came to the leaf system uh oh yeah yeah he was under i think he was under babs oh that's crazy oh wow maybe better as an assistant coach anyway sorry no but like edmonton was impressive through those playoffs second round against vegas i think i
Starting point is 00:22:15 had vegas winning that series and edmonton was able to pull it out like it was it was a good run to that finals where they eventually got steamrolled but it wasn't like they weren't impressive oh they were and and and you know the thing too and i know leon the the quote from leon at the soccer match uh where he was like you know i hope they hang in long enough so i can be back whatever he'll be back at the end for the game one of the playoffs or game two or whatever and playoff leon as we've seen before can be on one foot and still lead the league in in goal scored in the playoffs even if he's eliminated in the second round which happened like three years ago which is insane when you think about it and they didn't tie him until the last game of the
Starting point is 00:22:51 stanley cup finals i just i just want to like turn a chair around and sit down and look at the oilers So your top goal scorer is in Germany midseason. Here's how you handle it. Late season. It is late season. I think I agree with you guys. I think the Oilers probably take the Golden Knights in the first round unless Aiden Hill decides to get back to Stanley Cup form and the Golden Knights can figure out. They've got a weird lineup, and I think they're a bit old.
Starting point is 00:23:19 I wonder about Cassidy, by the way. I was talking about it on my stream, and this is a total aside, but since we're on the subject. I was talking about on the street because people were like, listen, who would you want to coach? One guy that I think has got to be under the gun is Bruce Cassidy in Vegas. And I get the sense and I don't think Vegas like media are going, well, he sucks and he's bad or whatever. I do get the sense they might have tuned him out.
Starting point is 00:23:46 I do get the sense that he grades on people. It's a big win last night. It was a big win. But if he's available, I sure would love him in Toronto. I'll put it that way. Oh, yeah. okay he you know grinds on players whatever ah well we got a few years to until we get there bring him in that's a you problem deborah's the same though he grinds on players we got a few
Starting point is 00:24:08 years before that who's the coach that everyone just loves universally i don't know that everybody loves john cooper universe i don't know that they do either people didn't like scotty bowman people don't they don't like their coach hey did you love the person who told you what to do all all day every day forever no did you ever rebel against your parents no oh yeah no no everyone was just like yes papa yes mama yeah no that's just not how it works that's the feedback here for every coach i think i think edmonton is going to be one of the teams to watch in the playoffs just because they do still have that switch no matter until they show us otherwise they have that switch and the lightning you could say that switch that they have was under question until
Starting point is 00:24:56 this season when they showed us definitively they still absolutely have that switch by the way um yes that's well what is that switch that switch of hey this is a big game and i'm hurt and you're hurt but we're here and we're gonna we're gonna do this anyway well what have you noticed since coming back from the olympic break i can tell you what i've noticed or since the trade angry well you're right for the wrong reasons yeah hockey players just start beating the shit out of each other that's i talked about this coming out of the olympic break it's either that deadline or after the trade deadline at some point teams start ramping up for the playoffs and what that means oh do they have a you know uh are their meals better before games are they taking longer
Starting point is 00:25:44 naps are they skating hard they are killing each other that's what it's about softening each other up for the playoff softening each other up or just sharpening their knives tampa if they end up taking on edmonton it's not gonna be until nearly june like i don't think there's any genuine hatred there but i have to keep my hatred my hatred meter high yes because i'm gearing up yeah like again making it about the Leafs but they would gear down they're obviously well yeah they're obviously a substandard team but the vast majority of the season they haven't been this bad but the chasm is there was already maybe a gap in talent but the fact that they are warming up for the playoffs and you don't care like you might as well be in different I'm talking about Leafs of
Starting point is 00:26:38 previous years when i look at what's happening with tampa right now tampa is winning the division and they're out there every night fighting like they're going for the second wild card spot the leafs used to just gear down and we used to say on the show well i understand they're gearing down whatever and it's just you know they know they're playing boss and they know they're playing tampa rest guys tamp well listen i get resting guys in game 80 through 82 sure but we're talking about a team that would gear down for like the final 10 games right and these guys don't do that no because you can't that's not what the best teams do you guys like meat yes yeah love me how about triple a all natural canadian meat delivered right to your home they're so it's
Starting point is 00:27:21 so good okay tell everybody we're talking about chambers food now if you've never heard of chambers that's cool but they are family owned since 1939 now you've heard of them now you know you can get triple a all natural canadian meat delivered directly to your house and steve and jesse and i have some and it was pretty great honestly the steaks are primo even like now that we've told you about them welcome to your new life um the chicken breasts like how could how could something like chicken breasts be fancy and special this is i just i just i'm drooling right now best chicken breast i've ever had in my entire life i am not joking with you yeah and you know what's cool about this is it's it's it's so customized like listen we know that food prices
Starting point is 00:28:06 are crazy and that sort of thing we also know your life's crazy here's what you do with chambers food okay so you go to chambersfood.com slash sdpn you book an appointment you're going to start by completing like a contact form uh they will then set up a phone call or a zoom appointment for you to create your order you customize your order so there is a meal analysis form that kind of you You overbuy, you overstuff your freezer, you forget that it's in there. No, no, you don't need to do that anymore. You determine the food size that fits your family needs, and then they will pick up and choose only the items that you need to use. They're going to deliver it to your house, and it is incredible stuff, like high, high, high quality, and quality guarantee, by the way, for every order.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Chambers Food Service is a shop at a home butcher and a grocery service that delivers AAA all-natural Canadian meat directly to your home. they are proudly family owned and they have been since 1939 and here's the offer the offer is sick completely customized food order that will last you 10 to 12 months if you fill out a form today you're going to get a hundred bucks off when you use the code yet one hundred dollars off chambersfood.com slash stpn again it's c-h-a-m-b-e-r-s food.com slash stpn steve and jesse do you highly recommend it oh yeah yes put it in my face and body so the other thing i want to throw out there and i have a question for you guys and i've been dying to ask you all weekend this now means with vegas's win last night kind of screws it up because it could have been a bigger point
Starting point is 00:29:38 spread but anaheim has a four point spread with the game in hand over vegas they have a five point spread with the game in hand over edmonton it looks like the pacific division they might get to 95 points in the division maybe but we're not like as a as a winner as a division winner at 95 points is insane to think but anaheim would then have to play utah give you just a straight up stat goal differential for the ducks is a minus seven goal differential for the mammoth is a plus 25 wow who wins that series i got utah you got utah on that series jesse i don't think it'll be an easy out i don't think so either because you've got grandlin and crider and all these guys in true but who've been deep in the playoffs jesse what are your thoughts on a series like that
Starting point is 00:30:29 you asked me to pick a winner well if yeah if you were to if you had to bet on it today if we were doing our bracket challenge with spark today yeah who would you take ducks or mammoth i i want the mammoth here in this situation i know how much the ducks is points uh total this season has been propped up by the shootout like troy terry last night i was watching that game the buffalo game first of all electric i don't know if we have a buffalo segment plan we can do it but uh that the road buffalo fans in anaheim last night unreal like a quarter of the building was sabers fan in anaheim it was fucking fantastic how's the turntable it's so good to have the sabers back being good because like this stuff comes out it comes out of the comes out and it's awesome but
Starting point is 00:31:15 troy terry last night he scores uh three on three goal to um to win the game in in in overtime and i feel like the ducks i don't know if it's just their brand of being young but they have more guys who can do that kind of stuff where it's like if you if troy terry's gonna get a breakaway he's gonna make a little move and then beat alex lion and i feel like they've been really propped up by the shootout thing whereas they have so many guys who are good in these situations where it's like oh yeah one-on-one with the goalie we can score goals that's kind of how we've been built so when you reach the playoffs and there's no shootout and there's no three-on-three overtime i'm gonna lean a little i'm gonna take a couple marks off their actual points and where they are
Starting point is 00:31:57 in the standings i'm leaning towards a team like the mammoth who are just doing it and winning games i'll just give you a stone cold number the ducks have allowed 44 more goals than that's a That's a lot of goal. Hey, by the way, they have the least amount of regulation wins of any team currently in a playoff picture.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Yeah, and like, listen, they're incredible. And by the way, the Kings, if they get into the playoff picture, they have 18 regulation wins. Anaheim,
Starting point is 00:32:21 the lowest currently 23. So how about this one? The Kings are fucking weird. The Calgary Flames, who we all agree are one of the worst teams in the league, have the same amount
Starting point is 00:32:29 of regulation wins as the Ducks. Whatever, man. I'm still pro Ducks. You guys can all, you guys, get all f yourself go duck you're feasting off of this i'm a big rad kogutis guy an extra inning no no no no no they're gonna get through the mammoth because because dostal is gonna stand in his head
Starting point is 00:32:50 rider's gonna have a renaissance the ducks are we're gonna lay these losers out jj paturka i'm in your walls the ducks are are winning the election because bart forgot to vote one for martin two for martin one for martin two for martin that's you adam where's your ducks jersey do you have one i they are the ugliest jerseys in the nhl i couldn't oh no you guys know that those orange jerseys are so ugly i was at one of those retro ones they had i was at an oshawa generals game last night and i was going to get you a an oshawa generals beckett seneca t-shirt i would have died there was only one left and it was quadruple x oh okay i would have swam in it even for me who's put on a few pounds in the last few
Starting point is 00:33:31 years i that would uh you know not quadruple i thought you were gonna say it was like extra small and i was like you should have got it to go with my devil's pajamas oh if it was extra small i know you would have worn it spray paint on adam if you're streaming ducks playoff games you have to wear a jersey i'm not i'm not i'm probably not streaming ducks playoffs games probably going to be canadian but i got it okay we gotta get adam a retro ducks george peros jersey no no here it is awful and terrible and blah anyway so the pacific division even though it's the least um effective division at winning games is that the best worst worst just say worse um they to me are the most interesting oh easily the vegas golden knights since february 27th have the worst
Starting point is 00:34:21 points percentage in the national hockey league in the whole league since february 27th if you sort by points percentage the vegas golden knights are 32nd in the league they trail the vancouver canucks who have a 318 the vegas golden knights are at 308 toronto's at 333 seattle's at 364 panthers 364 calgary's 423 detroit 455 26 the bottom five again bruce Cassidy the bottom five features at least one Pacific team that's going to make the playoffs possibly two yes so we're getting our Bruce there it is moment the way this has been sorted is that the Golden Knights won one game the first game coming out of the Olympic break and then since then they have been four and nine and that is the worst sports percentage since that
Starting point is 00:35:08 one one more Pacific division stat the San Jose Sharks are 26th in the NHL they are behind the leafs and if they simply win their games in hand it will put them one point out of the playoffs one point they are 26th yeah i'm willing to say that this is an anomaly that this isn't an indictment on the nhl as a whole here for their playoff format and the points percentage i think or the point system i think this one division is just it's a outlier they're having a bad they're having a bad year i mean the metropolitan with the exception of the carolina hurricanes had some pretty weak years right yeah not like this but like the canes have always been good but the metro the metro has had some stinky years a number of things need to happen for this
Starting point is 00:35:59 to even be possible you need to all beat each other right so there can't really be halves and have nots and you need to lose to virtually everyone else right you lose to the central You lose to the Eastern Conference. You just lose to everyone else. I love it. I'm excited. It's really difficult, but it's possible. So with that, we'll leave it there unless you guys have anything else to add on the Pacific Division.
Starting point is 00:36:24 But I desperately hope that the 18 regulation win Los Angeles Kings make it into the playoffs because they will be the fourth team from that division to be. Come on, Scotty. Come on, Scotty. Let's go. Let's do the bad MGM big story. Sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them. And that's where TaskRabbit comes in. Starting point is 00:37:59 Let Porter Airlines fly you from Toronto Pearson nonstop to 10 top sun destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica. enjoy award-winning porter service toronto has loved for 20 years and start your vacation as soon as you're on the plane book your sunny getaway today at flyporter.com and actually enjoy a comedy all right guys i'm in a good mood what's the next topic that would be george perry now you know what i found so amazing about this i tweeted it on saturday or whatever when aj greer's hit on connor zeri came out and everybody's if you're listening to this show you've probably seen this hit um i thought oh my god they've just aj greer just gave uh george peros to get out of jail free card it's it's one of the most blatantly dirty hits we've seen in a
Starting point is 00:38:54 long time where where like there's no ambiguity whatsoever it's not uh so-and-so turned or he was going for something else and he missed like he tried to do what he did and he did it and he did it and the and the player had to leave the game and what i found interesting about it so he all george peros has to do in this scenario it's very simple all he's got to do guys is he's got to throw the book at aj greer who is a fourth liner yep who is not on a team that's going to the playoffs nope and who is not really a huge factor one way or the although he did he was a huge factor against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs I will give him he's a good depth player he is a good depth player I was surprised he wasn't traded if your season hinges on AJ Greer
Starting point is 00:39:39 in your lineup your team is not very good he's a complimentary yes and and so if I look at that I go man if I'm George Peros I just had to do the media veil at the GM meetings which where I was very uncomfortable all I gotta do is throw the book at this guy and then everybody's gonna shut up because what people will say is well see he did it with greer clearly the message got through or see you guys were all wrong he does do it it's just not when you guys like it you'd have the tut tutters out there waving their fingers at you okay but but george peros and his crew of people i'm not sure watch the sport often uh took the other route and they doubled down on their own incompetence and you had Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid and Judd Moldaver in the last week all
Starting point is 00:40:28 talk about the process and Kiefer Sherwood and Kiefer well Kiefer Sherwood's a little bit of a different league um talk about the process here and the fact that the process needs to be examined and instead of putting shutting the story up saying actually our process is perfectly fine thank you very much they reinforced what sydney crosby judd moldaver connor mcdavid he for sure would too said alan walsh has alan forever yeah alan has been the guy who's saying this is kangaroo court is what he likes to call it everybody's arriving to his party it is wallaby walsh in the kangaroo court hell yeah go get him alan so can we first just do a quick look at this hit, Jesse, in the video.
Starting point is 00:41:16 A quick listen. Quick listen. To the hit? Yeah, let's do a quick listen. Let's hear what they had to say. It sounded loud. Yes. Graphics.
Starting point is 00:41:28 Friday night in Calgary. Panthers forward A.J. Greer was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct for shoving Flames forward Connor Zeri from behind into the boards. It's so stupid.
Starting point is 00:41:39 As the video shows, Zeri attempts to break toward the goal for a pass in the attacking zone, but is hooked by Greer. As Zary regains his balance, the puck bounces into the corner and both players pursue the loose puck. As the players come together again, Greer delivers a two-handed shove to Zary's upper back, which causes him to fall to the ice and slide into the wall dangerously. This is boarding. It is important to note that Greer is in control of this play at all times. First, he hooks Zary enough to cause him to lose his balance slightly.
Starting point is 00:42:13 Then, as Zary regains his balance, and at a dangerous distance from the boards, Greer delivers a shove to the upper back of Zary that knocks him to the ice and causes an impact with the wall sufficient for supplemental discipline. If Greer wishes to initiate contact on this play, he must do so in a legal fashion rather than shoving Zary in a way that causes such an impact. To summarize, this is boarding. Duh. Greer has been suspended once and fined once during his 316 game NHL career. The Department of Player Safety has suspended A.J. Greer for three games. So, so there's a reason why I was like, listen, listen, listen, listen to everything he's saying. With the Radko Gouda suspension video, and I thought this was more revealing than anything else.
Starting point is 00:43:03 because so often they go with the side of the aggressor and they try to justify what they did or oh we understand their justification and with Radko Gudis they're like we understand his justification and we ignore it because it's wrong and dumb with the Gudis video they were like this is bad furthermore this is so bad third and tertiary this is the worst this is so damn bad unjustifiable good lord this is so bad anyway five games five
Starting point is 00:43:40 games is them throwing the entire phone book at you that's throwing the book at them in George Peros's world the AJ Greer video the video is like this is bad number two
Starting point is 00:43:57 holy shit this is so bad number three he's a repeat offender oh my god this is so bad three games so five games in three games this close together peros doesn't do this this is a busy and and like really consequential couple weeks for the department of player safety this is them this is their equivalent of taking the players to the cleaners and they suspended each of these guys for probably less than half of the games that they should have been i think that's fair like even i like what gutas did to matthews was stupid and extremely bad and extremely dangerous and extremely dirty i'm gonna go out on a limb
Starting point is 00:44:52 and say this is worse because it the the potential consequences could have been so much worse and there's even less justification for what Greer did to Zeri than there is for what Gudis did to Matthews Gudis was vaguely playing hockey like he was out of position and he got burned so bad and he got a piece of Matthews in a terrible way because he's a terrible and dirty player. This is like they said in the video by their own admission, AJ Greer is in charge of what's going on the entire time and his opponent, yes, is off balance.
Starting point is 00:45:36 The only reason his opponent is off balance is because of him. So I don't know what else there is to say because they're not they're not defending either hit and they're just saying this is horrible this can't happen in our league anyway here's a slap on the wrist for both of them we gotta be done with this guy i think you nailed it with the direction to take this hit because in the way they classified this i don't know if my reaction was on the screen when he says this is boarding and they're showing this hit and the way peros looked at this was just any typical boarding play you know it's like oh typical boarding play is this get three games you know he's injured
Starting point is 00:46:28 it was dangerous whatever but when you look at it with actual eyes that are evaluating a hockey play this is how people get paralyzed playing hockey yes these are the neck injuries where we talk about hockey being a dangerous sport these are the instances where somebody who is reckless and is for no reason going after connor's area after he already hooks them former teammate by the way a former teammate yeah on top of that and goes into his numbers and shoves him into the boards neck first oh did he did he lead the league in text per 60 over the last few days oh i'm so we know the panthers love i'm sorry i nearly broke your neck text i am shocked that the stretcher did not come out after this this play here and that's that's not hyperbole this
Starting point is 00:47:18 is what could have happened but the department of player safety chose not to take any of that into account and looked at it as a regular play and the opposite of how any hockey fan over the last three days saw this play which was probably one of the dirtiest plays we've had in the game in the last number of years your best your your your cousin who thinks shorzy is a documentary is not defending this hit no and there should have been a punishment to illustrate how dangerous this truly was and there was not and that's such a it's just such a shame to the players who play this hockey game because it clearly shows that the people in charge of doling out the punishments do not care about player safety no and and the people who sign their checks well maybe the nba
Starting point is 00:48:11 is for you guys yeah you know maybe maybe that was i love that trip oh maybe hockey's not for you go go play soccer go play all right by the way anybody that's ever watched the nba especially through the 80s and stuff like that uh pretty nasty sport not maybe as much today but it was pretty fucking nasty back in the day i basketball fights crazy used to be pretty much some old larry bird footage at the uh at the garden um what here's what i want to say and again i said this last time and i'm going to do it again um you can't tell me that past experience does not inform present decision making what happened to you in your life uh informs everything that you do every day and i think it's funny and this is going to wreck my argument i can't believe no one else is
Starting point is 00:48:59 bringing this up but perhaps it's a weak argument who played for the ducks uh-huh who played for the panthers uh-huh and i know it wasn't a long stint with the panthers but i just think it's funny how we have a ducks player and we have a panthers player and the panthers by the way this is not the only panthers incident we know that this man cannot in my mind be objective when he played for both teams this is why as chris talked about cj talked about on the on the cj show this must go if we're looking for true fairness it must go to a third party that both the pa and nhl pay for it can't just be one paying for them and it has to be an agreement that's like every 10 years we do a renewal or something like that it has to go to an outside arbitrator if
Starting point is 00:49:47 we're ever going to get to that sort of fairness because a player who was a goon who was a goon and employed by both of these teams imagine imagine this is just real life yeah all right i worked at shoppers drug mart okay man and i and shoppers drug marts found to carry a deodorant that turns your underarms purple sure okay and it's my job as the judge to rule on whether or not uh that is bad okay okay but i worked for shoppers drug mart and was well compensated i was never well compensated by shoppers drug mart but like imagine i was i was a high level executive and now i'm the judge yeah that puts me in a bit of a a bit of a a bind in terms of confidence in my decision making does it not it does and i think that's what we're looking at here this is quite
Starting point is 00:50:35 literally somebody who cannot be objective and i don't care how many people work for him right i don't care that's that was the next point he's the leader i i knew we were at a point of no return with george peros when they hired ryan getzlaff of course and like i'd rather have getzlaff in charge but that's not why they brought him in um they brought him in to reinforce what they're already doing yeah this dude is terrible at his job and so you hired his friend like I wonder how many things they disagree on like Getzlaff at very least was a hockey player and like I understand George Peros and like Goons had a role back then like a lot of people don't understand it's actually been kind of a long time since Peros played but Peros played nearly 500
Starting point is 00:51:19 games in the NHL and in almost every single one of those 500 games hockey happened at him right yeah he wasn't there because he was driving the play no no you think he was driving the play i wonder why he always sees things from the side of the aggressor in these situations because he was always the aggressor i know he was never suspended i know you've only told us a thousand times since i don't care he was never suspended what does that have to do who gives a damn like yeah we're gonna be able to do that oh well so and so from the panthers was never suspended yeah they should have been they're an axe-wielding psychopath but hockey happened at this guy for 500 games about 500 games and he's the head decision maker he's the least qualified
Starting point is 00:52:08 person to make these decisions in his department if you were to bring in here let's let's uh how about you know who would be qualified in my mind who also played for the ducks ryan gets left paul korea paul korea has been mentioned a hundred times ray whitney's another guy in the department i'm there's another former player because paul korea had his career cut short by assholes like that yeah paul korea was one of the most skilled players of his generation probably the most skilled and you know doesn't get his flowers because a he played on the west coast in a in a smaller market b gary suitor uh knocked his jaw off and the nhl did nothing and i and i think that's the key here if we're gonna if you want a player if you're so desperate for a player to be
Starting point is 00:52:53 involved bring in a player who would have negatively been affected by this adam here's what i'm googling all right do you know what i'm saying like i just don't i don't understand like it's it's crazy it's like you know what man the guy that we're gonna man this guy keeps going to bars getting drunk and punching people let's employ somebody who's known for going to bars getting drunk and punching people to meteor out his his punishment that doesn't make any sense okay here's an article from sportsnet.ca sportsnet to produce first nhl game in 4k january 18th 2016 that's the cutoff you have to have played an nhl game in 4k the game has changed too much it's changed too much it's too fast yep i want people making these
Starting point is 00:53:41 decisions who i want people in the department who played an nhl game in 4k i think etzlaff makes the cutoff sure i don't think players should be in a way i i think it should be an outside i think yeah no no there should be right in in the way that this should be handled because these things do go to a neutral arbitrator if they are if a player suspended for more than five games they have a right to appeal or six plus sorry and they have a right to appeal they go to then to the commissioner and then if the commissioner doesn't reduce the suspension then it goes to a neutral arbitrator i think you're right in that we should just start with that neutral arbitrator why is that not the first line of defense control and then controls why that
Starting point is 00:54:23 neutral arbitrator who we already like know that they have access to that they don't have to go find a new law firm to do it they already know how to wrangle a neutral arbitrator to make these suspension decisions let them make all of them this it won't cost you i don't think any more money that you can't afford just let them do it so i don't care about players and all this stuff being in the department just let the arbitrator handle this stuff because they'll do a reasonable job and they won't have the biases that people within the game will have what what is the discourse like the day after a an nhl player is paralyzed let's have the conversation now so that we can use it when it inevitably happens i would prefer not honestly well what's
Starting point is 00:55:13 what's i mean it's gonna happen i i hope it doesn't i hope it does well the longer these guys are in charge the more likely it becomes well yeah i mean listen i three games i know i know three well and i think what what hurt the case here and this is so stupid that this is the case what hurt the case was that apparently connor's area was available to celebrate with the guys i think it after the the flames won the game and to me who cares oh yeah who fucking cares no no all of that is to spend the action yeah aj grew's missing 3.6 percent of the season yeah like he's missing i i mean like what does he play per night 12 minutes he's missing like half an hour of ice time what are we doing here yep what are we doing although honestly with the
Starting point is 00:56:01 penguins or the panthers injury report this morning he might be playing a heck of a lot more than that uh sam iskevich is out uh everyone uh balinskis is out uh i think both out four to six weeks or something like that they're they're a mess the panthers they're totally yeah marchand hasn't played since well he's get i think he's getting surgery i keep hearing he's getting surgery i just don't know why it hasn't happened yet kind of feel like maybe he already has and they haven't told anyone or something like that anyway long story short it's a it's it's just another missed opportunity by the nhl to say to wave their because that the nhl does do that right they they'll they'll go we've made the wrong choice five times and then they'll make the
Starting point is 00:56:39 right choice once to appease everybody and they'll be like see we're smarter than you shut up and then people will actually shut up they didn't do that this time no you know when i was watching steve stream on saturday night he said you said something along the lines of do you want to dominate the road like one of these teams like at least one of these ontario-based teams yep yeah with the standard i-force engine boasting an impressive towing capacity of 6,400 pounds the most powerful toyota tacoma ever is available right now at ontario toyota dealers and they are very cool they look great they they last forever they do you know you get a toyota and you're like oh i'm set yeah yeah i don't really don't i don't have to worry about this this category is taken
Starting point is 00:57:24 care of yeah focus on something else uh you've also got that they've got some great features to including the power lift gate makes uh loading your gear in and out really really easy and obviously this is my favorite part and this is a major major part i think it should be of any purchase your 10 speaker jbl premium audio system jbl jesse blake limited i don't know it's actually not what it is the rest uh no i wish oh it's not the rest of how wealthy i'd be if i was like i'm the jbl guy yeah i got i got my speakers in every toy and these toyota you start showing up just start showing up to commercial shoots be like i'm here and there is the jbl flex bluetooth speaker as well that comes with it so you know when you're out in the summer and you need a little speaker
Starting point is 00:58:04 at the back of your truck you can do isn't that great that was a good idea that was a good idea by my company he's a brilliant guy um now listen we want you to go to visit shop toyota.ca so i how about i say this again i want you to shop toyota.ca or you can visit shop toyota.ca but at shop toyota.ca or your local ontario dealer during red tag days from march through may uh let's go to gabriel landis cog uh because gabriel landis cog had to have surgery and now we had jared bednar's clip a couple of weeks ago uh but he had to have a quick surgery to fix some things because he took a shot off the nuts uh and he also confirmed he had some broken ribs earlier this year from crashing crashing into the net in where south florida uh but i i uh a kale
Starting point is 00:58:55 mccarr shot to the balls probably like to require surgery what's that first conversation like i mean i'm sure kale kale must have apologized in person right that's not a text message apology just hey hey buddy say how do you pat on the back how gentle is that pat on the how high is your voice kind of reminds me when you had your your operation well there was a little bit of pain is is your voice just hello permanently up an octave no i meant kale oh yeah but yeah fair are you watching your back at practice are you putting a stop sign on your on your jersey at practice to prevent you you take it you take it oh lost another board battle gabe oh man you're so good you're great at this you're at a boy cap if there's worth you remember
Starting point is 00:59:46 how uh uh panarin bought the uh uh and and ranted and did this too to get a number they bought a rolex i think that's you buy a rolex territory sorry about your balls cake yeah and here's your here's your rolex um i think that segues well the reason i'm bringing this up into and we're we're gonna get into this but not for long um anthony stolers is on the ice this morning okay uh he took a puck to the throat on the second half of a back-to-back this weekend and steve realizing who did it in live in the live stream was amazing because steve please take it away i go because i hadn't seen the footage yet and i said who was the one who hit stolers in the neck and why was it William Nylander not knowing that it was Nylander and then I find out not through
Starting point is 01:00:40 the chat and people telling me but by watching it I go oh my god it was because this is now the third time Nylander has done this tell us arguably second so the first one if I'm not mistaken was Garrett Sparks who at a practice he pinged right in the friggin head with a shot I can't remember if he left that practice or missed a game as a result the second one that has an asterisk on it is he hit matt murray right in the same area as he hit stolars and murray couldn't play that game now supposedly it wasn't the shot that did it it was the adductor muscle that haunted matt murray in his time here okay fine we give willie that one even though keep your fucking shot down third one anthony stallers the maybe tallest goalie in the nhl actually he might not even be the tallest
Starting point is 01:01:34 goalie on the lease but he's one of the tallest goalies foot seven in the nhl he's extremely tall you hit him in the throat willie keep your fucking shot down what are you doing he since he's gotten into the league has always shot high he fires the he that's great rookie here i remember he would just it was just field goal after field goal what the thing is is that it's not just keep your shot down in the game which is always a smart call especially in warm-up oh he's king of the bay blade king of the bay blade yeah what's that you fire it uh like on an angle uh-huh you miss the top corner and so it goes along the glass like and it just all the way out to back down to your goal yeah it's bay blade it goes all the way back down to the other end jess um does william
Starting point is 01:02:23 Nylander oh Anthony Stoller's a Rolex at this point definitely but I I don't know freak accident or on purpose is is well not on purpose no definitely not on purpose but like buddy why is it all why did I know it was you oh why did I know look and it's not like like with Sparks he was sort of down when he got hit in the mask and you could be like yeah you know what that's just that's a fluke whatever well where is this puck going i mean it's a good point where is it going where is it because it wasn't a net you're talking about one of the most accurate shooters in the league by the yes i know that oh god yo if you want to dunk on the leafs this is the most this is it the year this is the fucking year everything is just everything although to be
Starting point is 01:03:13 honest every year is the year but this is bad like the end of season hey remember this happened is gonna be insane can we get oh yeah can we get a steve dangle top 10 most disastrous leaf moments this year i would love that i would die for that oh adam why why are you making my job so hard by limiting me to 10 like what's a worse willie moment the middle finger or this the middle finger he wasn't on the ice for the middle finger although he had to apologize for something he did while scratched apparently he he was pretty he was pretty sad about it after the game like he felt bad well but again it's just why why why there is a sign for anybody listening is leaving the ice because he's hurt and there's a go william nylander go kid uh like holding a
Starting point is 01:04:07 sign bless them right beside anthony stole up sleeping bless them there's a willie jersey over here a guy's wearing his jersey backwards oh my god you can show it the willie 88 there listen there's a reason we love him i'm not like but ryan to say that he sometimes loses focus oh there he is sorry yeah i know okay he's a good person we're not saying he's evil i didn't like that nobody's saying he's evil yeah but like this is you know one thing i said that in the video that's harsh but true like this is the national hockey league i don't need you to be sorry i need you to be better like i think that's i'm not mad i'm disappointed i think we might be overblowing here uh puck in warm-up no no no you're right no the fans here run everyone out of town
Starting point is 01:04:55 everyone runs everyone out of town and every other team gets to have standards but us got it keep your fucking shot down. I think again, again, you did it again. Now the other bewildering thing that happened this weekend that I think makes the top 10 happened Friday night. And Jesse,
Starting point is 01:05:17 you were at this game. Maddie and I were streaming it. And I have to tell you, first off, the streams are getting sort of hilarious. I don't know how your experience is. I got two this week. I got Tuesday and Wednesday.
Starting point is 01:05:26 I can already read the comments. You know what? If you disagree with me, whiz one by your goalie's head next year. A hundred percent. You're going to love it. They're going to love it. There's whiz one by your goalie's head.
Starting point is 01:05:35 Last shot before puck drop. I didn't do that. I think I think if you've played hockey, you know that goalies don't fucking play. What are you doing? Now? Oh, my God. The the the thing on Friday night, which was hilarious, was a that the Leafs pushed it to overtime first. And I think that the shot attempts were somewhere in the high 80s for the Carolina Hurricanes and somewhere in the low 30s for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Starting point is 01:06:01 How did they push it to OT? william really there you go and it was a fabulous goal great goal i like it wasn't it was vintage it was beautiful i understood he wants him to not try no no no no no no no more that cool i disagree don't strongly disagree willie strongly disagree don't take warm-ups i didn't say don't take don't take warm-ups if you can't be responsible with them no sit in the press box and give middle finger yeah yeah maybe ice dance is for you yeah well you know hey scott moore yeah test of virtue yeah oh that's not ice dance though that's oh it's not skating son of a gun i don't know the difference anyway i don't know the difference so i'm sorry but what my think my i think my
Starting point is 01:06:41 thing and this could make steve's like i don't even know if i call it disasters these are just dumb ass dumb ass mistakes that the leafs have made all year the william nylander is one of them he's got the two he's got the middle finger for the box he got the solars in the head sure or in the neck craig berube so they go to overtime and immediately berube is like okay I'm going McCabe I'm going Willie and I'm going John Tavares and and and this is a head coach and all coaches do this where they're too close to the picture to see the entire painting Sheldon Keefe used to throw David Conf to win a face-off draw and then be like all right Austin your turn all Craig Berube has done is what the last guy did yes so Tavares loses the draw and
Starting point is 01:07:23 the Carolina Hurricanes don't know if you know this very good at hockey very good at skating and puck movement so Tavares is now stuck out there with like Aho and whoever else and they're all fast and they're all great puck movers and John respectfully gets exposed in three-on-three hockey his his his movement's not there what is the face-off gap between Tavares and another option you could have put out well I don't I if you had Lawton Watt and Matthews probably not much i don't know what grew's numbers are so you don't have a lot of centers so this is why i didn't get mad at that decision because i was like what's uh there's no one else but then they're all slightly out of position and it's relatively quick the carolina hurricanes put
Starting point is 01:08:13 the leafs out of their misery and they score how why can't william neilander take the opening face off in overtime why not he takes face offs all the time the dumbass thing though that's 41 seconds by the way 41 seconds and shot attempts were 77 to 44 i believe in the game less bad than i thought but still and still terrible i don't know that's pretty bad yeah but i made it seem like it was much bigger that's pretty much smaller yeah i think you were along the right lines so so plus or minus 10 um i i then read the quote afterwards and jesse tell me you didn't fall to the floor laughing when craig berube said we could have used a save there when the shot attempts were 77 44 and the only reason that they're in overtime is joseph mother effing wall yep i know i hated it
Starting point is 01:09:06 it was it was such a it was such a nonsensical comment from a head coach throwing his goaltender under the bus there when as you said joseph was the only reason they got a point in that game like and then to have that follow up with him having to start on back-to-back nights yeah i was like okay that's perfect right rub your face in it craig like what are you doing and one then the team's so so much worse the next night yeah like and there was comments i want to get to the it was on it was on it's on him the way this team plays and the amount they're outshot every single game for two years now last year they were able to overcome it because they had a spectacular goaltending out of that guy and now you're not getting it this year and you're upset you're a
Starting point is 01:09:55 bad coach right now yeah like even in a vacuum if you look at some of the goals that were allowed that night you're like yeah i would usually expect wool to make that safe but he's still your most valuable player and you stink like i i don't want to hear anything else out of Craig Bruby, dude. I'm not interested. He's not the Leafs coach. Well, no. And so that goes to,
Starting point is 01:10:18 and I want to just, before you go on that tangent, because I want you to go there. Okay, sure. Give me a sec. Next night, they've called up Michael Pezzetta against the Ottawa Senators
Starting point is 01:10:27 and Brady Kachuk has made comments on his podcast, which we mentioned on Friday, about the Leafs not jumping into Save Matthews. You call up Pezzetta so that Pezzetta can send a message and maybe restore
Starting point is 01:10:38 a little bit of anything in this team in terms of honor right whether or not you think that's valuable that's what Brad living did Craig goes no we need Callie Yarncroke in the lineup he's playing his last five or six games in the NHL and he needs to be in tonight and and this is on the heels of them losing and getting their asses kicked at home the first Saturday after the Olympic break like two three weeks ago against this same Senators team. In Toronto. In Toronto and... You got a chance
Starting point is 01:11:10 to go into their building and give it back. So we scratched Poseta. Scratched Poseta. That's great. After the game, Easton Cowan had a great game. Goal and assist. Sure. He said after they got that power play goal, I felt like we kind of got dejected. And Craig Berube says no, no, no. That's an excuse.
Starting point is 01:11:26 I don't buy that. Craig. Listen, I know Craig is coaching for his next job in the NHL, which is why Poseta was not in the lineup. You think that the players have quit on him? That's him quitting on the team. You put Poseta in the lineup over Yarncroke, you're out of your mind.
Starting point is 01:11:44 Here's Cowan saying they were a little deflated. Yeah, I thought we started off pretty strong. Got on the kill, they scored, and I feel like it deflated us a bit. How tough is that? and then i'll uh you'll pull up the response from uh craig berube when he says this like i really want you to listen to him say it because he's this guy's coaching like hey i'm this is a job interview for my next job well he wouldn't get it and i don't blame him for that he will get
Starting point is 01:12:22 another job he'll be hired this summer i know and he'll probably go on and do do great things hope he's got a goalie but this is the only way craig ruby hockey works is if he has elite goaltending it's the only way it works here we go can you say what do you do in the stretch of games i don't know why they would be deflated after we gave up you know as a power play goal um you know we broke a stick we're trying to get a stick i mean they scored a goal but big deal we played a good first period i mean i don't know i don't understand that thought process that you don't follow it up and be ready to go in a second um and know that they're gonna make a push and you know we don't respond well enough so i don't i don't really understand this
Starting point is 01:13:10 deflated stuff to be honest with you i think it's a cop-out considering how now that's a coach going at his team and by the way this guy i listen i think craig berube the person is probably a great guy everything i've heard about berube why do we not always do this it's like a third time this show i'm fucking doing it but this guy gary glenn ross guy is done this guy's done with these guys and he is coaching to get his next gig and i don't blame him for that that's part of it i just wish it wasn't happening on my time like uh you i get this feedback a lot and it's valid it's completely valid no no no no no it's well actually you probably like this because they're the numbers are going up when they're losing right not anymore exactly not anymore like people don't care about
Starting point is 01:13:58 this hockey team i know them losing is bad by the way yeah yeah no yeah i know i'm not doing this again i was right the first time okay but uh with with craig berube people go listen man like how is it the coach's fault when it's the team that does this and that and that it doesn't need to be the coach's fault or they don't need to be the principal person uh that's at fault it's a coach's job to uh motivate it's a coach's job to strategize uh and obviously manage the bench it's also the coach's job to get the message across that's part of the gig you could argue it's the most important part of the gig you could be the best strategist uh the the most motivational lovely flowery person and if you can't get your team
Starting point is 01:14:57 to follow through on the things that you're telling them then you're not a good coach and you're certainly not a match if a team is deflated and easton cowan says oh i think we are all deflated after that it is your responsibility to coach the team in a way that they will not be deflated that's on you not on the players i don't know what kind of coach this team needs i don't um but it doesn't work it doesn't work at all like you see the relationship that coaches who have had a lot of recent success um have with their teams it's largely positive the boys in florida would die for paul maurice they would die for that oh yeah john cooper i think completely different style than paul maurice they die for him too do you
Starting point is 01:15:51 think we'd ever see a video of the leafs in the middle of a really tough playoff series all going and getting blizzards together probably not and then them just like making a whole he probably wouldn't let them put the picture hey we got blizzards and now we're getting a blizzard sponsorship for a guy from the east coast and everything's awesome yeah well and that's leadership not from the coaching staff that's that's from another guy but i believe that's coaching staff down yes a hundred paul maurice whenever you hear him talk he when he's in between the huffs of his farts he's talking about how much the guys love each other and how much they hang out and it's all about being a team and whether it's on the players like i don't want to just
Starting point is 01:16:34 make it all about the coach because some of it's on the players and the attitudes that they they bring to the table too but it's a it's a group mentality and i think from craig berube down to the core of this team nobody has that bonding team attitude when they go out on the ice no like i think it's a miserable experience being a leaf right now miserable like it's gotta be fun showing up to the ring oh my god like like i think part a big part of how long the season is it's so long a big part of that is you all gotta get along you all gotta vaguely at least enjoy each other's company and you got to enjoy showing up to the rink every day oh my god these last 11 games are ceremonial like they are they're to honor the ticket so it's already been sold
Starting point is 01:17:35 basically like these guys are done their season ended probably at least two weeks ago so let me ask you this and arun things uh you guys should follow him he's a great leaf reporter he said everyone's great uh i love always down there um he said rather than shutting him down due to a lingering knee injury with the playoffs out of reach the leafs instead play matthew nye's a team high 24 minutes and 30 seconds where he records no shots on goal in a 5-2 loss to the senators yeah they gotta they gotta take the wheel away from craig like it's it like what are we doing the leafs haven't made a decision that's made any sense all season long all season long and this is why i'm so harping on everything where is brad there is he need to he can be gone too they need
Starting point is 01:18:25 to i'm gonna say this every show until they do it they need to end the cycle of i just got here so let's not fire brad okay uh let's create a hypothetical scenario where we don't fire brad true living bruby's gone right yeah 100 okay so brad fires craig bruby a year from now what happens brad gets fired yes we all know that's what's happening and they probably let's say they bring in a president or actually they don't need to for this exercise they don't need to well they're going to but yeah okay so they bring in a president it's gonna be doug and the present they bring in doug jim now and doug that'd be way better gases brad a year from now who just coached the leafs the for the next year bruce cassidy hopefully okay doesn't matter what
Starting point is 01:19:24 his resume is or how good of a coach he is he's not lame he's not the new guy's guy yeah that's why you gotta get them both and i just got here yeah and we're gonna we're gonna do the cycle again stop you know what i want to that point start anew yeah hey well okay so people will say to you steve and i think that's a good point you raise people will say to you well by firing them you're you're encouraging uh i just got here here's what i want no i want you're not i want encouraging a cohesive management team yes here's what i want i want a guy who goes i just got here and this is all my problem now and i'm going to be extremely active watch watch for me yeah no i just got here and this bullshit is over yeah no no it's not i'm gonna sit back and watch
Starting point is 01:20:12 no no i i took this job because i did research on the team that was trying to hire me and this is the plan that i have what do they talk about politics aside with the presidency in the united states one of the things that's really important is the first hundred days you have to get your policy stuff done in the first hundred days that's across any president that is and that's or any executives that's true for prime ministers whatever but i'm just trying to make it in a way that people will understand sure right i want a guy who's not like hey man i just need to do some research i've done the research that's why i'm here they hired me because i have a plan and this is the plan i can't share every detail with you but this is our brand this is it's not
Starting point is 01:20:58 no honor no courage no guts or whatever they have on the fucking wall it's here's the plan the plan is to be this the toronto mate believes brand is this and even though there will be times we not we don't hit it we will strive every day to be this thing whatever it is i don't think adam realizes how right he is do you know what's a hundred days from now and this is why they need to fire brad for living immediately do you know what a hundred days from now july 1st it's july 1st really hey that's crazy damn you nailed it dude they have to make the decision now they have to make this for god's sake you got to start the interview process if they haven't started that already that's professional negligence i think they're having
Starting point is 01:21:44 phone calls i i have to believe they are they i don't have you don't think so jess i don't know how you have any faith in this entire ownership group like i'm i'm done with talking about the management group because this whole thing goes higher than that it's rogers downwards guys i'll do it for free i'll do it for free while you're going to do it i'll do it for free yeah i think we all we all know what should have happened and they're not doing it and i don't believe they are going to make any right decisions here and it's great that they've signed a couple of college free agents but like and that's cool okay great but like what is craig should have been fired um in december when they fired um steve's best friend and then brad for living should have been
Starting point is 01:22:29 fired when they were heading into the olympic break and you let like pridham do stuff there till you get somebody in place and they should have definitely hired a president when keith belly came in he should have done anything and they've made so many wrong decisions i don't know why you guys believe that now they're gonna make right decisions i don't think he's gonna close and if he keeps doing this he's gonna lose what if he's bad it's gonna happen business wise what eventually and we've talked about this before is rogers is gonna spin off sports net the blue jays and maple leaf sports and entertainment and combine them we know that's probably gonna happen in 2027 2028 the question now is who's gonna run it and for me there were two guys in the running
Starting point is 01:23:08 shapiro of the blue jays uh pelly of mlsc and pelly's looking real bad right now shapiro looks great so do something this is this is why i feel like that jesse would that not be the motivation for keith pelly to go i gotta stop taking these hits man don't think keith pelly is good enough at his job i have a year and what is it two years now he's running up on two years worth of evidence to know that he uh is not meant for this i don't know if he has license from so he's in charge of six sports teams which is stupid genuinely yes foolish and arrogant which is that's a rogers thing though yeah at the end of the day he gets the paycheck and why wouldn't you take the paycheck i don't know if keith pelly has license from rogers to hire
Starting point is 01:24:00 the leadership necessary for all those six teams i don't know all i know is this is so obvious to anyone who has ever consumed sports roughly at our level and they just won't do it and every day when i talk about this team after a game or i talk about this on the show i feel like i'm talking to 50 75 000 people and also a wall it's agonizing that this is the most obvious simplest thing to do in the entire world and they simply choose not to do it yeah and i have no faith that they will and i don't know how you have taken everything that's happened over the last two years and believe that hey all of a sudden they're going to start making decisions i don't believe it so so here i'm trying to find
Starting point is 01:24:59 reasons i think jesse's making that point and he's right let me let me word it uh a little more clearly the obvious decision is to gas the gm gas the coach start a hiring process get a president get a gm let that gm hire a management team get a coaching staff you have 100 days until july 1st and then go forth into the future with the management team you can now ride for at least several years because it is brand spanking new that is what i think is the obvious simplest best thing to do and every day they don't do it is professional negligence which is a term i just learned from adam all those things are very nice cool hey what they are gonna do is like nothing what if we just didn't
Starting point is 01:25:54 i hear moon pies are also good you know yeah i like a mccain's frozen cake months ago i said the blue jays are the golden child ed rogers likes them and every other team that he owns is an ego play blue jays congratulations you're gonna be well taken care of the rest of you you're fucked well until we prove or proven otherwise i think you're probably on to something are you doing endure are you getting out and doing life endure i know steve dangle is today he's got his jeans on i got a handsome butt you do and you got those microfibers uh in there that allow you to not have to wash the jeans every time because not only do they regulate temperature but you know we sweat and stuff and this kind of allows it to breathe keeps
Starting point is 01:26:45 your butt handsome and clean yeah they don't just have jeans though no they don't like i like their polos and they have a nice quarter zip that i own they got a lot of i have a nice beige like orangey beige jacket that is like one of the more unique pieces i have in my wardrobe it feels like fall i did wear it this spring and it felt good but it is a fall it is yeah you gotta you gotta whip that out in the fall absolutely listen we love doer you'll love doer we want you to try doer now there are stores everywhere there's a there's a door store on ozington here in toronto but if you want to go to the website which sometimes is easier for people go to doer d-u-e-r dot c-a slash s-t-p you're gonna get 15 off your first order again that is doer d-u-e-r dot c-a
Starting point is 01:27:29 slash s-t-p a lot of letters there but it's 15 off doer dot c-a slash s-t-p check it out now let's look at uh let's look at i told you guys this was a big weekend for a couple of teams at the beginning of of last week it was boston and it was detroit and try it and the detroit red wings did a pretty damn good job last week and the boston bruins not so much they're a little surprising bit of a stumble not on saturday night nope now for context people that don't know because i don't expect you to check the standings every day like we do because we're crazy people but the boston bruins and the detroit red wings have been neck and neck with wild card one and wild card too for basically most of the last couple of months my favorite tiktok comment is
Starting point is 01:28:17 what's going on here i have a job exactly exactly now the new york islanders have overtaken the detroit red wings in the standings it's a dog fight down there because the boston bruins beat the detroit red wings now jesse yes you were quite by the way the islanders by the way lost saturday won on Sunday. Devastating loss Saturday. Beat the Blue Jackets, though, which is a team they're fighting. Jesse, tell me about your thoughts
Starting point is 01:28:45 on Detroit's performance in that game against Boston, probably their most important of the season. It was right there. And it comes back to, I mentioned on Friday's episode, I gave Steve Eiersman a little thumbs up. You did a good job there.
Starting point is 01:29:00 You've stabilized the goaltending in Detroit. For years, you've struggled with finding a starter that you can run with and finally you have john gibson and things are looking good and just to put into context of how good things are looking in detroit since december 1st minimum of three games played very low minimum john gibson has the best safe percentage in the national hockey league he's a 922 he has a 2.14 ga he has four shutouts in that span and he is 22-9-2. Oilers refused to trade
Starting point is 01:29:38 for him last year. Each name on this list is more surprising than the last one. Yeah, you can go ahead. Eustace Hannon. Oh my God. Joel Hofer, dude.
Starting point is 01:29:46 Alex Lyon? Joel Hofer was like an 860 like around Christmas. Yeah. Wow. This is just sorted by save percentage. It's unbelievable.
Starting point is 01:29:54 That's crazy. Sorokin's got five shutouts. That's nuts. Yeah. What? He's actually very good. I think he's... That's a lot of shutouts, though.
Starting point is 01:30:01 Did he tie the Islanders record for shutouts in a season i think this weekend hot damn i saw that um anyways john gibson has been playing fantastic this doesn't take away from everything he's done prior to this game but in this game the detroit red wings were entering the third period tied with the boston maroons 2-2 they go up 3-2 and what proceeds to happen is two shots that john gibson definitely should have saved go right by him and the boston bruins who have no quit in them win that game based on a fantastic goalie battle jeremy swayman made i want to say four saves that were 10 bell in that third period and that's where
Starting point is 01:30:44 detroit fell short um their their offense it's it was it was cooking it was good but when you can't get those crucial saves when it comes to the end of the game you're going to lose games like this and that was a big one in the standing. 4-4 to 27 in favor of Detroit with the shots. Yeah, it was cooking. Like, Debrinket had a good goal, a really big goal. He's had such a good season. It's such a letdown for a team that played pretty well,
Starting point is 01:31:09 and you need a couple saves here for your playoff life, and they couldn't get it. I saw a really good tweet. I don't remember who it was by. It was basically the Bruins went from Tim Thomas to Tuka Rask to Jeremy Swayman. like just just a privilege just an embarrassment of riches for them it's crazy yep so uh detroit fans like you got to be feeling it right now because you've been in a playoff spot all year
Starting point is 01:31:37 long like how you were kind of the last couple years and now it's coming down to crunch time and you're looking for these games and you're not being able to pull them out now when you got a third period lead and it's and it's frustrating because you understand why and but the schedule doesn't so how about this schedule does not care how about this week for the wings okay tomorrow night senators interdivision battle senators are surging you got to beat the senator that would be a devastating loss for well either team both team it's good yeah somebody's gonna cry yeah we're coming to this jesse but red wing sabers friday so we'll talk sabers at next potential first round matchup and then flyers red wings the next night and that's that's an
Starting point is 01:32:19 old rival right from back in the day that's a stanley cup 1998 uh a rematch they haven't fully gone away the flyers no they haven't those are the three games they play this week i will be watching with great interest oh yeah because they had a good week until saturday where they just couldn't you know couldn't solve swayman there's like 31 teams i'd rather watch than mine right now like most of them are interesting sorry the hockey's been fantastic oh yeah yeah i'll say it until i'm blue in the face the talent in the nhl is great the leadership pisses me off now jesse the hockey's great just just before uh somebody corrects me i know you probably already have in the comments i told the the goals in the third
Starting point is 01:33:05 period uh wrong just it was one one coming into the period and then to break it scored to make a 2-1 and then uh boston proceeded to score the three goals uh that made it for a 4-2 victory let but yeah sorry i was trying to do it off the top of my head i would like to talk jesse about well i would like you to talk about the sabers ducks which my ducks went down in overtime damn it yeah no that was that was a good game too like eventually like we've all had the sabers conversation so many times too where it's they've been so good for so long that we need to all admit that they are this team but it was another case of them having this overpowering offense and zero quit in their team it would have been a very easy game to you're on the west coast road trip
Starting point is 01:33:48 whatever you're down a whole bunch to the anaheim ducks they were down uh it was four two and then the third period starts and they storm back with jack wingle owen power scores zach benson scores the the buffalo sabers are up five four in that game and then seneca he skated right into who's whose stick was it let me just recheck um it was zach benson uh who trips seneca seneca goes right at zach benson's stick and he falls right over it's a tripping penalty it's a veteran move benson got his stick in seneca's legs but like what a vet move good call uh to call in at that to get that power play for the ducks and the ducks are pretty lethal on that they score and it's a tie game then overtime adam knows this when you the ducks get to overtime you're never going to defeat
Starting point is 01:34:34 them no uh so they pick up that win but credit to the buffalo sabers in a road game on a sunday to battle back and score those three goals in the third period that's a big one point tampa also got that one point in their ot loss to calgary so they stayed on par with tampa for that division lead battle last last night cj goes uh this this buffalo anaheim game is bonkers and i was like i would it was good i would assume you were on drugs if you said that at the beginning of october yeah if you said that can i 11 goals it was it was such enjoyable hockey this weekend can i say to the ducks i believe the stat is the ducks have scored 10 goals in the final two minutes in 10 separate games i saw that tweet yeah that's fucking crazy yeah and that's helpful when it
Starting point is 01:35:23 comes to the playoffs because you do need to come back you need those goals man but it also means you were down first which is not great right so i don't that just means you lead the league in fun i think you know how that you lead the league in stressful fun fun perfect oh yeah the ducks win that one if there was a most fun team in the nhl they're winning it this year although sabers make a pretty damn good case they're a wicked team to watch if you just like great hockey and your your team's out of it or they're not playing that night watch a sabers game watch a ducks what's the stress with the sabers they win virtually every game i know yeah honestly yeah no the ducks are stressful fun yeah they are you're right that's a really good point stressful
Starting point is 01:36:02 fun with rubber who wants it um wait no no oh my god um i didn't have anything else on my line did you guys have anything else you wanted to hit yeah i think our show should be called stressful fun with rubber goaltender interference and adam's avoiding this because it's pittsburgh and we know his his battle with that with that side of why is this dubas's fault of america oh i forgot i'm listen i'm embarrassed that i did not put this story in the lineup but the sass of kyle dubas i miss i miss the sass and you're gonna know what i'm talking about when jesse brings it up here because this man kyle dubas uh is the loves his guys yes and is the master of this is bullshit but i'm not gonna say it i'm gonna it's it's not what i'm saying it's my
Starting point is 01:36:51 actions right because there was an incident this weekend and what does kyle dubas do he prints off the rule for goaltender interference and has somebody he didn't do this himself because he's a general manager and a president he doesn't need to do that he has somebody within the organization distribute that to every member of the media in attendance can you imagine that happening in toronto uh he's picked a direction god bless that so i love it so here's the thing that's not going to help no no the league's gonna hate him for that that is not going to help but is he a god in pittsburgh if well he's a god in pittsburgh it it does earn you brownie points with the fan base but also you're here let me check my driver's license nope still kyle dubas
Starting point is 01:37:41 they're not giving me those calls ever anyway um so i might as well choose a direction which is i hate you clowns so which is yeah honestly dubas's direction is i'm not mad i'm just disappointed and also i lied i am mad also let the papers know that i was mad please tell the papers in fact let me print the paper that i am mad are we seeing more gms like have bigger balls in challenging the league with eric tolsky and his the younger guy everyone's upset and now kyle dube is coming out and doing this younger guys are for sure and you know what it's so funny because and i forgot to bring this up in the peros segment jesse um you know this is this is the same group that says peros is doing a sensational job and the refs are the best in the world i'm sorry
Starting point is 01:38:31 they're simply not i saw olympic refs i know they were mixed in with nhl refs but i saw them we're seeing gms with license from their owners uh speaking up tom dundon we know is not a fan of what's going on so eric tolski speaks up who the hell even owns the penguins anymore well the team the people that did own them hated the nhl so much they're like fuck this we're out they wouldn't even go to the meetings the board they wouldn't send anybody to the board of governors meetings which decide where the league's going and so dubas is the gm and he ran it upstairs of the president who is also kyle dubas and he and he got permission yeah to do what he did i love it i love i love i like the sass bring this up and then i'll i can bring up the play that the
Starting point is 01:39:11 penguins are upset about and then i can bring up the two goalie interference calls that went the opposite way of the penguins one just so you can see why they are upset and why they are just oh the penguins are right let's just get that out of the way oh yeah right so josh yo he is the one who tweeted out um the penguins just printed these out for the media in regards to goalie interference rulings yes by the book absolutely was goalie interference so the rule that they highlighted and handed out to the media members in pittsburgh says if a defending player has been pushed shoved or fouled by an attacking player so as to cause the defending player to come into contact with his own goalkeeper such contact shall be deemed contact initiated by the attacking player
Starting point is 01:39:52 for purposes of this rule and necessary a penalty assessed to the attacking player and if a goal is scored it would be disallowed so let me bring up the goalie interference penalty that pittsburgh is so upset about and i'll show you that yes an attacking player was interfered with and that is why they are upset so here we go i love by the way this this play if you have not seen this will blow your mind and thank goodness pittsburgh won this game yeah like at the end of the day it's important little meaningless unless you want the goal on the board unless you want the jets to get two points so here it's steve if you want to narrate the play-by-play i think you'd be the best at that all right here comes the jets can't see who it is because it's very pixelated and
Starting point is 01:40:44 he's got a lane and eric carlson is on him and he takes a shot i save i think from stored skinner Oh, but here comes a rebound from the Jets. I believe that's Justin Barron. That's Justin Barron. Barron down on the net. Smashes Eric Carlson. Holy shit. Wow.
Starting point is 01:41:03 Just yard sales. Is that Skinner? Yeah. It was Skinner. Yeah. Yard sales into the goalie. Yard sales Carlson into the goalie. Yes, yard sales.
Starting point is 01:41:14 So Barron pushes Carlson. I'm just doing this for the audio listeners. Right into the goalie. And not only does the goalie get hitched, Steve, he gets hit out of the way of the net. And there's a jet that is the he might as well be the goalie. So Baron smashes Carlson into Skinner and then Baron felt bad about it. So he decided to be Pittsburgh Penguins goalie for a moment. He is the closest person in the blue paint.
Starting point is 01:41:41 And then what happens after that? Well, they challenge the goal. Oh, because by the way, the ref on the ice goes goal yeah the ref was uh ardor she loves by the way oh it was she loves damn it doesn't matter well for the social clip here let me here oh ardor sea loves dub that in ardor sea loves that's uh the atlanta falcon from the latvian one yes go ahead so that one happens and what do they call they call goal and everybody's like what the fire this ref i'm sure nhl head office will have something to say why would toronto do this
Starting point is 01:42:22 so same weekend this happened on friday same weekend of games i believe a day late tuesday 23rd i think on this happens on saturday islanders there's merzlikens oh it's jack raves sorry islanders game this is deemed no goal so this one's not the latvian one yeah got it this is grief got it this is jerry's what happens here fellas well it looks as though uh the uh new york islander player i think that's andrews lee uh gets his stick and body into jet griefs because what happens the columbus blue jackets player pushes him into the goaltender and this is deemed no goal so there's just no consistency whatsoever so to me on that one that should count because if the defender pushes you into the goalie then the goal should count
Starting point is 01:43:17 it's the defender's fault no goal right so okay so that's these are actually you're right these are opposite goals yes these are two very different things actually when you put it in that con so if i so if jesse's the goalie and steve's got a shooting lane and i push steve into jesse and the puck goes in well that's my fault but what happened in the pittsburgh game was that carlson got pushed into his own goalie by a shooter who then benefited by throwing carlson like literally like adam but that's a goal yeah well yes so adam which means they got both of these wrong yeah both of them are wrong yes i believe it's matthew olivier who pushes him into the uh goaltender uh yeah no good goal or sorry no goal no goal no goal but that's a good goal
Starting point is 01:44:06 jesse you can work for the nhl yeah yeah good goal uh no whatever you should work for the league you got a future in this man so can i tell you something if you're watching broadcasts and you're wondering why you don't see a lot of this on the broadcast until you see it so you'll see freach come out and say it and and and he does and there'll be other people that do too But why does it in the buildup? They'll talk about it when it reaches the top layer of outrage like they did with Peros. Why do they not talk about it on the way up? Well, I'll tell you this.
Starting point is 01:44:40 The NHL closely monitors what its partners are saying on TV. They also will let broadcast companies know when they don't like a commentator. That is true. The NHL wants its broadcasts. It's not the NHL's broadcast. It's Sportsnet's. It's CSN's. it's TNTs, it's ESPNs.
Starting point is 01:45:00 But the NHL looks at those, it's like, well, you're our partner, so therefore that's ours. They want you to talk about the game. They don't want you to talk about the things in the game that make them look bad. The suspensions, the goaltender interference calls, the atrocious reffing in the playoffs, all of it, they don't want you to talk about it.
Starting point is 01:45:21 And so they can't on TV always talk about things until they hit like a break point where if they ignore it it's professional negligence and that is why this happens so when you have podcasts talking about it that actually spurs people on and not just podcasts fuck it talking about people on twitter you talking about this shit puts it in the spotlight to the point where those in charge can't ignore it anymore yes but adam there's a new leadership style and that's why dubas did what he did and that was smart the new leadership style is uh you know the old one is oh boy there's a lot of pressure so we have to address this and the new style is nah what if we fucking didn't what if we just ignore everyone
Starting point is 01:46:03 they got both calls completely backwards yes they did in one weekend yep and i i think they got the tim stutzler one against the leafs correct i think they did too i don't remember it can i see it yeah that was the i know i streamed it but i didn't mind um the sins had like 50 shots yeah you can pull it up by the way the sense did us a favor and kicked our ass which i'm so mad at the cane thank you are you fucking kidding me guys you let the leafs take you to overtime are you fucking mind steve if you want to do this one well so stutzla just barrels into wool and well you got show myers myers helps him a little bit at the end but uh i i think it was sam mckee called Tim Stutzla like a human
Starting point is 01:46:46 Zamboni like he just is always Down on the ice Yeah no that's your fault Tim. Sens fans know. They know They're not defending. Why is it always Tim Isn't this like his third Instance of goaltender Interference review in the last like week
Starting point is 01:47:02 What's that scene from Harry Potter Is it like why is it always you three Why is it always you three except all three Are Tim They're all him So this weekend, I think the NHL won one for three on goal interference calls. But you know what, Jesse? They're confident in their process, and they do a sensational job.
Starting point is 01:47:21 No, it's so funny that the two plays with the Islanders and Columbus and then the Pittsburgh one, like they're the same play except backwards. And then they just screwed them both up. Yeah, but Jesse, they got a loser point on all of them. So they actually went five for six this weekend. No, they're above Bettman 500. Yeah, or four for six. Fuck my joke.
Starting point is 01:47:40 Anyway, damn it. Damn it. That's okay. All right. Should we wrap it up? That's it. All right. Well, listen, it's been a blast hanging out with you guys.
Starting point is 01:47:48 It's going to be a fun week. We are so flipping close to the playoffs. And by the way, Steve and I are doing NHL streams for the Leafs. It's going to be so nice when we don't have to anymore. We're going to be doing playoff streams in a couple of weeks. Three left. I'm scratching them into the wall like Shawshank. S-T-E-P.
