Steve Dangle podcast with your host,
Steve Dangle,
Adam Wilde,
and Jesse Blake.
I don't know if you guys know this,
but there is a chance that one team could play every canadian team these playoffs
is there now what team do you think it is oh no wait it couldn't be the leafs uh
it's an it's an easy answer one of the western teams yeah because you'll have to be a western
team who's playing a canadian team right now you know so it'll be either nashville or l.a
Or Colorado.
Or Colorado.
Yeah.
So you've pared it down to three.
That's right.
Let's keep using the math.
So stupid.
I thought it was a Canadian team, but they can't play themselves.
That's right.
Yeah, yeah.
You're a little sleep deprived today.
DJ Khaled.
So you pair it down to those three, and then you deduce who's in the same bracket as the
other Canadian team.
That's right.
Who is that, Steve?
Ottawa Senators.
No.
So just to shorten it here.
Vancouver and Nashville are playing.
Edmonton and L.A. are playing.
If Nashville beats Vancouver and Edmonton beats L.A.,
then they would play L.A. in the second round.
If Winnipeg gets through to the West final,
that means that Nashville would play Winnipeg.
And then if the Leafs get to the final,
conceivably Nashville and the Leafs could play.
That's too much math.
It's a lot of math.
That would be so intense.
Taylor Beck comes back and signs a contract with the Preds
just to take on the Leafs.
That's right.
That's right.
Kills them.
Right.
But the same could be said
for the LA Kings.
Yeah, I guess the LA Kings
could do it.
So it's two teams
could play all the Canadians.
No, not the Kings.
No.
Kind of cool though,
I thought.
The Kings or the Preds
could play every Canadian team
along the way.
That's pretty neat.
Pretty neat.
What wasn't neat
is the Leafs power play.
One for 11
in the series.
And instead of going
through period by period,
which is what I normally do
for playoff games,
I took notes.
I got notes.
and i want to go piece by piece through this game yeah which jesse and i attended and uh and i got
some stuff some thank you to scotia bank by the way oh for three there oh for three jesse and i
for playoff games but it's not our fault and we will not be owning it adam and i have been to
three playoff games the last three seasons 21 or 22 23 24 and in each of those games they lost
I will not keep us out of the building
I will not be owning that
I will not I refuse to own that
I refuse to believe that Jesse
and I being there is the people
are like commenting on my Instagram post going
you guys can never go to a game together again in the playoffs
they might be not our fault they might
know right no how about
how about the Leafs do us a solid and win
you just how about I don't play hockey
no no if you listen to
Joe Bowen it's you it's Adam Wilde's
fault oh are we talking about that I didn't cheer
loud enough is that what it was you were there
in your fancy scotia box that you invited me to and cold toilet yeah you wore your suit uh-huh
and you didn't cheer the whole time well listen i as as part owner of scotia bank i wanted to bring
i wanted to share the wealth yes uh because you're richer than you think uh and uh and you know i
wanted you to experience that no but in all honesty like it's been jesse and i have been
there every time and every time they lose by one goal yeah it's been except for like last night
which was like an empty netter but right one goal i'm pretty sure the leafs won the last playoff
game i went to here's the problem that was i'm now realizing half a decade ago what what game was it
it was game 3 2019 against the bruins oh my god more scored in that game for the leafs and mitch
marner tried to block a shot with his face with three seconds i was at that game too yes you were
i was was i was also wasn't yeah you guys weren't uh sitting i was there too yeah i don't remember
where i was we were in the we were in between the penalty boxes wow that's right no we were
in between the benches sorry in between the penalty boxes doesn't make sense in between
the benches yeah yo that'd be sick yeah right that's where they should put seats in the penalty
box i want to hear that every show uh or every game every show there's just there's just someone
sitting we have like just letting them yell at each other we have seen a victory we have seen
of victory jesse but yes but it was there steve was so when we go solo you and i we are over three
but steve comes our lucky charm we we win well i want to say this um uh i don't understand why
the leafs haven't invited steve to come down and do his streams live yeah oh i honestly well why
not i'd like to yeah why haven't they from the ice we're not a rights holder it's probably got
to do with that has nothing to do with that oh yeah center ice yeah nothing to do with that
yeah no just keep it out of the way okay so you've had three games and let's be honest here
three games where a hundred thousand people have tuned in okay a hundred thousand unique viewers
in three three straight times i want to give you some some context for that there are most
most sports teams in canada would freaking kill for numbers like that um and so i i look at this
and i'm like okay this is a perfect opportunity but to put steve there you he doesn't have to be
asked you are you are being purposely ignorant he doesn't have to we do not hold any nhl broadcast
you don't have we have no relation to mlsc why would they ever do because because it's for the
vibes all right adam's like isn't it enough that he is loved like come on just just vibes man just
vibes they're bringing influencers in why not steve yeah maybe they would first tap the shoulder
of the company that owns part nobody at any of those companies that own mlse are gonna do what
steve's gonna do nobody nobody not at the same scale no way sorry i'm gonna brag about my friend
for a second not an effing chance not an effing chance i think that is besides the point well
the money talks yeah it does it does i'm just you know what i'm gonna send them an email today i'm
guys do this vibes um you're richer than you think uh i also want to shout out the usher stacy
last night who uh said hi to us she's a big uh sdp listener um and ushers at the uh at uh scotia
bank arena are there once they're there they're there for like 40 years they like they are it's
a it's a very it's a prime position to get yes they take a ton of uh care and responsibility
what they do so anyway stacy big shout out to you so last night didn't know this before the game
but i guess it makes sense in retrospect matthews played through the flu yes cj uh broke that uh
today in the athletic and he also talked about it on the um cj show which hasn't come out which
hasn't come out yet but producer nick was like hey i don't know if this is out there but cj said
this and it feels important yeah um and he got it out there in his article yeah despite not being
100 on wednesday this is cj's article matthews delivered a team high eight hits and fired seven
shots at the bruins goal i didn't i didn't think he was bad uh the line was less effective the line
was less effective but i thought again oh man those guys are letting maddie down they are um
whether it's the penalties or defensive lapses jesse and i weren't even we weren't even in the
building for the first penalty i don't even remember what it was oh yeah we were in the
building but we were walking up to the box yeah oh that was benoit putting the puck over the glass
30 seconds, yeah.
That's what happened.
Yeah, they killed it.
Yeah.
They killed it, but no, I'm more talking about the third goal,
which just, it just feels like a series that's,
listen, the last two times the Bruins beat the Leafs,
they were just the better team.
The Bruins were just the better team,
especially, you know, when it came down to it.
This just feels like a dead heat where it's coming down to moments
where the Leafs are failing.
right they're a fine team a great team even the bruins like they're up to one in the leafs
really hard to beat they look like a cup contender to you the bruins yeah no no they're
entirely beatable they're beatable like i mean any cup contender is technically beatable right
but you look at another series you jump over to vegas dallas and i say dallas is a very good team
but across the ice is there's a team that seems otherworldly right now and they've gone in there
and two straight games on the road and they've won and in that situation you say there's a real
cup can they're gonna go back to back all that stuff and you look at the least brewing series
and you say both of these teams are vulnerable yeah uh tampa beats the leafs in 22 i go oh boy
i don't know if anyone's gonna be able to beat them they go all the way to the final last year
panthers beat the leafs i go oh boy i don't know if anyone's gonna be them down yeah and then they
go all the way to the final i mean this year it could end up the same way but it just feels like
the leafs are handing them this series on a platter yeah and like yeah the refs missed a
couple calls like again i was so right i was so right i've been doing this for too long bruins
fans i love you you got six chirps you got six chirps and they all suck uh and one of them is oh
it's the refs fault i only know one language and i scream it into a microphone and if you don't
understand it that's your problem and not mine they went oh for five on the power play
oh for five it's their fault holy shit but they did miss a couple uh uh key uh moments i actually
thought the the charlie mcavoy penalty in the second period um first off he it came right after
he took down matthews behind the net and like grabbed him and oh where he slammed yeah so so
but like 40 seconds later yeah 40 seconds later the refs call him for i think a penalty that never
gets called yeah it was a makeup call yeah it was the elite but the leafs like you said
had all the opportunities and both things can be true i just it's when when fans are chirping other
fans of teams they choose to believe that only one singular vision can be believed by that fan
of the toronto maple leafs like you can only believe that it's the ref's fault and you can't
also believe that like hey they missed some calls and the leafs went 0 for 6 and both things are
true what about the high sticks that uh the leafs did that went uncalled what what about them should
we should we talk are we allowed to talk about those now i thought you didn't want to talk about
this right i i'm very confused i need to know the ground rules before i speak yeah and at the end of
the day they're just needling other fan base everybody's needling ah bullshit they genuinely
believe that shit i hope not i hope it's just it's chirping because it's sports and that's what
everybody likes some of them are not all of them are pete right not all of them are pete blackburn
a lot of them just genuinely believe that shit right but i think the focus has got to be
the over six right that's where that's where you started out over five oh for five one for 11 in
the damn series one for 11 yeah now uh you're dead uh kneelander is trending towards coming
back for game four there's been a couple of rumors out there elliot friedman just put out
an article for sportsnet.ca thinking that um william kneelander so william kneelander switched
to a tinted visor earlier this year because he'd suffer from migraines. And the and Elliot is
saying that with his absence from Toronto has to do with a migraine that's so severe that team
doctors were testing to see if he'd suffered a concussion. One of the reasons for the secrecy
around the situation is that the actual diagnosis has been hard to come by, whether it's a migraine,
a concussion or something else that could affect the area. We've also heard bad back. We've heard
broken ribs. Yep. There's a lot of weird stuff floating around. I tend to think back or head
makes the most sense um but you know i don't know man it's uh they're saying jonah siegel
chris johnson and several other people are saying he's likely back for game four and that is going
to make an enormous difference in how the leafs move the puck uh how they manage the power play
um but i mean at the end of the day when we talk about the power play what's frustrating about the
toronto maple leaves is they don't adjust so no you and and i i i put this on the assistant coaches
i mean sheldon's got to get in there with a cattle prod sometimes oh guys you got to do this
but you have to make you have to make an adjustment when something isn't working it's been two months
it's been two months you can't you what what is it nope keep going keep going it's been two months
there have been no adjustments i was saying to cj this morning when i talked to him on the phone
uh that i was like this reminds me of the duane casey raptors where it's like we get into the
playoffs this is the way we play okay the team's figured out the way we play and they know how to
defend it um okay no but we're gonna keep doing this you have to make adjustments what do you
have is this the shell do you want me you want to play i can play the sheldon keep press is that
the marshall quote nope oh you just okay hold on a different quote maybe even more mad hold on it's
easier if you just send the links no drew drew didn't send me the link you send me the file
why'd you decline no i'm not you gotta you gotta give me a heads up here
this is amazing effort to do the airdrop i'm gonna text it to you no no it's all good i got it i got
it you got it yeah the airdrops are better than text so adam what is keith got to do
i i think he's got to get in there with a cattle prod and tell his his uh his coordinator to figure
it out why uh because their power plays went for 11 and it's been anemic for two months now
they finished jesse what was it from from the end of february to the end of the season they were 28th
in power play percentage yeah around there no but adam you got to serve it up uh on a platter for
me does what does that mean like is the power play bad it means the power play is bad oh well
let's go to sheldon and see what he thinks oh no here we go no no i thought power play was was
all right tonight you know i had some we had some good looks and tight around the net that we didn't
make good on that's a bad quote fire every guy bad quote fire every guy on the bench um sheldon
Guy Boucher runs the power play Dean Chenoweth you seem like a good guy you're gone um don't
have an appetite for that coaching staff coming back get the fuck out I'm gonna tell you right
now if they lose this series Sheldon Keefe should be fired like there's no oh I don't think there's
any ifs ands or buts about it no he needs to go like I I really do I I think highly of this
Leafs team I really do and I want them to I mean for god's sake at least go a couple rounds it'd
nice to see them have like an actual run where we go hey they could win the cup you know that'd be
yuck it'd be so fun and great uh and goofy and um you know every time they lose i feel like i need
to say hey by the way everyone's gone everyone's gone and again i keep coming back to remember i
kept going back to hey maybe firing the gm five weeks out from the draft is poorly advised maybe
they shouldn't do that now we head into a summer where very likely what happens is the coach gets
fired and the president gets fired the president who just hired the general manager so you're
gonna have like a lame duck general manager a year into his tenure here it's just it's just a
really really really really really really really really shitty company i think they're just not
smart i think it's not smart i think that that more to that um on a more granular granular level
is uh kyle dubas was a big fan and i'm sorry to bring kyle up but he had a huge effect on the
organization i know i know he had a he he was a big fan of the book um score take takes care of
itself very process driven guy remember when uh tampa was in you know was in line to win the world
series and they pulled their pitcher with you know they pulled blake snell and then they lost
and kyle dubas got on a microphone without laughing and said we would have done the same
thing because you know you got to follow your process the thing that got you know um i think
what's happened is you've got a lot of holdover from that and this is going to be a ridiculous
very adam wild way to say this but if all right the war of 18 no no no no if you're the industrial
revolution maybe if you're if one of your strategies to win like the leafs would be like
they're so convinced of their own strategy that and i found this with dubas almost to a fault
where it was like well not almost to a fault definitely to a fault because the results were
not there we do this we will continue to do this till it works if you keep punching yourself in
the face and you're hoping to win a boxing match and you're going eventually when i punch myself
in the face it's going to scare the other guy and he'll stop fighting me because how crazy it is
that i'm doing this the other guy's like the other guy's like um i'll just okay i'll punch you too
if you keep doing that being process driven can be a really bad thing because you're not evaluating
you have to evaluate the results and i'm not seeing and i haven't seen an evaluation of
results from this coaching staff uh because they seem to be set and ready it's like this is process
this is the process the process in the playoffs i get it when it's a 20 game stretch and it's like
ah that you know things will regress whatever we don't have time we don't have time pastranak
is not on boston's top power play unit do you know that no he's not they've been moving him
off because their power play was also shit going into the end of the season and guess what they're
doing I guess what they've done they made a change they're tearing the Leafs apart and their power
play is amazing and look at that it's crazy oh my god and and I'm looking at I'm looking at Matthews
and Marner five on five and it doesn't work every time Keefe sends those guys out and it's either
Domi or Bertuzzi who has to sit in place of this doesn't work so then what we do is in the most
important critical moment of the game we put matthews out with marner we won't play them
together five on five but we'll put them on the power play together when the line that does really
truly work is bertuzzi matthews domey and what's crazy is don't be out there marner had a pretty
good game i thought few too many giveaways no shots a lot of give he didn't have a shot on goal
he's not a single he's had four shots in three games he had two in the first one two in the
second zero last night he was i don't think you know jesse and i were last night i don't being
there it was very stark and it's not because i want to take personal shots at this guy i i love
the player i i i have been asking for a couple years now does his style of play lend itself to
the playoffs you know he's perimeter perimeter perimeter does not drive the net and i love the
pass to to nice loved that pass that's vintage marner i want everyone before you get into that
four words on the Leafs last night
who did not have a shot on goal.
Mitch Marner. Name them.
That one. Name another one. There's two more.
Oh, there's two more? Yeah. Mitch Marner.
No, I thought
Ryan Reeves had one. David Kampf
and Pontus Holmberg.
Pontus Holmberg is correct.
Ryan Reeves is the other one.
Oh, damn it. Ryan Reeves who felt like
he was in the action the whole time. Yep.
Sure did. Mitch Marner
is putting up similar stats
to Pontus Holmberg, Ryan
Reeves. Now, Jesse,
we had a clip that went up
talking about Marner
and how he's got to step it up.
And then he got a sick assist
in a game where he had no
shots on goal. Lots of giveaways.
Lots of giveaways.
I just, I don't
expect credit for this.
And it's not something you
give credit for i just want an observation listen to how gentle we are you know i'm not saying adam
every time i'm not saying i it's because i want because when this gets clipped when this gets
clipped and put on the internet people are gonna go you guys have hated marner forever i don't hate
this yeah but when when we when i was shitting on neil andrew when he went on that streak after
signing his contract i didn't have to preface it with i think he's a good person like i think
the team is better with him like matthews when he's not getting it done and that you know what
we started to get on matthews game one this guy's playing like crap game two he was a monster game
three flew exactly good yeah but he followed it up with a three point game a three point game
where he got the game winning goal on a breakaway holy shit you know john tavaris like oh but you
got you just don't listen to the show and that's okay it's not for everybody we criticize him all
the time we have talked about stripping with the captaincy we know he's not worth 11 million
dollars even if he is playing well like i just you gotta you gotta give mitch a uh a compliment
sandwich every time yep yep i have stuff to say about john in a second but we do martyr is the
most glaring one and the thing is um somebody asked me on the stream a couple nights ago with
the vancouver canucks which by the way i'm doing one tonight nope not tonight no you're not they
don't play tonight doing one friday that's right i have that in my calendar too but i'm a little
tired um sorry somebody asked me they're like what do you think marner's next extension looks like
and i said honestly ohio uh honestly i i said whatever team it's with because i don't know
that it's with the leafs you never know um i'll punch out well i'll punch out i i i have to ask
the question because i think this playoffs is so pivotal to that is it this playoffs is not just
this playoffs when you're looking at statistically how this player does in the playoffs you have to
look at and not just the stat sheet like you can't just go to hockey db and look at it because if you
go to hockey db and look at last year's you go oh that's okay you got you got to look at where the
points are spread out as i've kept saying he got the majority of his points in the first three
games of the tampa series and just like the leafs offense he disappeared on on offense he had a
couple the leafs offense he had a couple of good he had one one good game against florida which
they won which was game two and and it's not because four oh it's game four yeah because
they went down three oh right yeah yeah sorry i got the numbers then they won that was an
overtime win was it not uh are they losing overtime in five no they lost uh three and
five in overtime so my my issue is that it isn't just this playoff it's uh it's last year versus
florida and the end of tampa it's it's montreal before that it's columbus before that there are
there are years and years and years and you're seeing leafs fans see right through it there
are leafs fans you can you can follow them on twitter oh they're a bit too much there it's a
The Marner stuff the last couple of days has been a little psychotic.
Yeah, like let's let's not you know, I understand being frustrated.
But but when we talk about, quote unquote, extension, and that's the context of the question,
I don't think that you can make the argument right now that he's worth any more than what
he's getting paid, which means when he was signed, he was signed above market value.
And and at the end of the day, like I can't see a team paying much more than what he's
making currently if he's not a playoff performer because you're looking at him and you're going
this is a guy who kills it in the regular season but on unless all things go right yeah we're not
going to see that in the playoffs here adam let me let me let me put a bow on this conversation
so that we can change the conversation because we're talking about stuff that can't be fixed
until after the playoffs right yes here's the conversation like let's pretend the series ends
the way it's been going the top power play unit can't score he's on the top power play unit
there has not been a depth goal other than the first goal of the series from david camp there
there hasn't been a bottom six goal this entire series so far through three games except for
david camp getting the only goal of game one yep so they have no depth yep capable of scoring um
they have they had a goaltender who's given them a chance to win in more than half of the game so
far no no they have not Ilya Samsonov had a good game too nope he had a good uh second and third
period of game two um and that was enough because the team was really good the structure
of how they are spending their money does not work does not work doesn't fucking work
two plus two equals five here like it's not gelling it is not working the mixture of guys
oh we're gonna go for finesse and we're gonna go tough and we're gonna go old and we're gonna go
young it doesn't work now that's off season's problem for if they lose in the first round
they're still in the first round they're only down two games to one what do they gotta do what
they got to do outside of William Nylander coming back uh let's assume he doesn't come back for game
three four four sorry sleep at minimum they have to change something with the power play
and the idea that I had yesterday is you start with your second unit
start I agree in unit and have them do a quick like blitz ridiculous shift and the second they
lose the zone throw out the big boys alexander ovechkin is older than the pyramids and he plays
a full two minutes on the capitals power play it's the playoffs for god's sake what is matthews
leaving the ice for what's he leaving the ice for i think some of the reason the number one
unit doesn't play the whole time is because they can't get anything going then you shouldn't be a
unit exactly what a couple years ago i don't remember which season this was the power play
was in an enormous slump and what got them out of it was the second unit if i'm not mistaken it was
jason spezza and my favorite thing about him is he shot the puck that's the thing that they don't do
oh my god they don't do it yeah they don't they don't just keep throwing the puck at the net they
love doing the extra pass they love just sending it around the the edges they love not getting set
up as well dude like entering entering the zone is the i don't understand how a hockey team who
is a professional hockey team can't enter the zone cleanly at any moment during an entire hockey game
it's ridiculous and when they do set up it's these floaters that they're trying to get tipped
which isn't even the worst strategy they have guys who could do that really well
they have john tavaris who's obviously incredibly good at that tyler bertuzzi if you go to the net
you can do a good job but the Bruins are doing too good of a job you want you want to block a shot
give them a shot worth blocking it's early in the series well now now I think it's a little
bit too late but games one through three are for softening up your opponent if you take something
that's not a slap shot I think you're failing so I want to make it so that they don't want to do
it anymore I want to issue a quick correction sure with Boston's power play Pasternak's on
the first unit but the first unit really to me is the second unit because it's got Coyle,
DeBrusque, Marchand, Geeky, and McAvoy that's the first unit well the second unit the first
unit is Van Riemsdijk, Zaka, Heinen, Pasternak, and Shattenkirk okay so they just have it spread
so then yeah so what I'm saying is they've they've spread it out it's my if you want to
get technical it's listed as first unit what they have is two units right the Leafs have
here's everyone who makes all the money and several people and they've had that for years
let's get going several people and i think that comes down to at the end of the day why i think
sheldon keeps probably not right to coach this team anymore if they lose this series
is that that's a coaching issue like that's it you know but they have you have the enough talent
like you could spread it out to create a good power play like you look at the roster and you
say you have austin matthews and morgan riley and mitch marner and william neilander who's
timothy little green even but even there's so many offensive weapons this is a team that finished
second in goals in the national hockey league the second oh i'm so through 82 games what year is
this the biggest sample size we have is 82 games they can score goals and what has the coaching
staff done not created a situation where you have an extra man on the ice where these talented
players don't score goals that's a coaching issue plus the players aren't executing no they were
good and they got their chances and just plug away no so i want to move on from the group no
just plug i think that it's but this has been so let me run you through some stats on the power
play jd bunkus looked this up and i think this is a great tweet um leafs power play success versus
their playoff opponent and this is the last five of them and he goes spot which one uh they want
a playoff series that's right uh bruins currently nine percent no last year panthers 18 last year
lightning 28 oh they won that series it's crazy uh 22 lightning 14 21 canadians 13 and and so i
look at this and i'm like okay again i go back to hey what's working five on five what line works
five on five uh what's a good line five on five that did that had a really good game too tommy
matthews bertuzzi in the offensive zone i don't have much patience for them in the defense are we
no i'm talking about the power play for the power play yeah i don't give a shit
what are we doing i don't know pretty simple right yep simple who do you take off pretty
easy why doesn't the power play work like how uh the tampa power play works where it's just
kind of kucherov sitting there and either he's gonna make an incredible pass once it gets to
him or he's gonna take a slapper or how it works like the ovechkin one where they just feed him
and he takes a one-timer like why don't you just work through matthews tampa is frigging insane
because they have headman at the point they have some huge dude in front it used to be
I don't know who it is now they got Stamkos with his right-handed that's bomb yeah he's
they have on the side there Kucherov with his left-handed bomb and then they got Braden Point
in like one of the most dangerous bumpers in the entire NHL that can just fuck with you
um oh no I think it's going to Stamkos I think it's going to Kucherov nope went to point it's in
It's in.
The thing is on the back of his jersey.
He just got one.
You have the greatest goal scorer of this generation.
He scored almost 70 goals.
Since he's joined the National Hockey League, he leads in goals.
He's the greatest goal scorer of this generation.
He's past Sundin in even strength goals.
He's on a better pace in his career than Alexander Ovechkin,
who's going to be the greatest goal scorer of all time.
Why not run everything through him
when you have an extra man advantage like it i know he has a touch of death shot but you're
making it so that the puck is never on his it's never on his stick and all they have to do is
cover him all they have to do is eliminate the pass lane and it'll never get to matthews because
you they run it to to riley up top and then and then mitch goes down to the low spot and then
he does a little dipsy doodle and never gets over to matthews the other thing i want to say before
you jump in here is boston did something last night and jesse mentioned something really important
gotta save they don't enter scored on the power play jesse was talking about zone entries yeah
the leafs and i'm watching the vancouver canucks a lot because i'm doing the vancouver streams you
know what the vancouver canucks do they turn around once the puck is in the defensive zone
and they grab it they turn around and they are out no the leafs the leafs don't play off the
rush that's their problem they are so they have an inability to play off the vancouver hockey
is we turn around and we play off the rush.
The Leafs are the complete opposite of that.
It doesn't work.
The Leafs are like, hey, you know what?
I know you're about to go on defense.
I'll let you get set up and then I'll attack you.
And I have to say, Vancouver is facing a really tough defensive team
and Nashville's done a great job of eliminating scoring chances.
But again, 37 block shots in the last Vancouver and Nashville game
on Nashville alone.
uh what i'm blown away with is the leafs will allow boston to take a great position and then
here's the thing jim montgomery's really smart and so what he's done is he's now full court
pressing the leafs in their defensive zone and did you notice especially in the third period
yesterday but there were a couple times in the second and the first the leafs defense don't know
what to do they're like oh and then they're slapping the puck around to each other and
turning it over it's working because they're not used to they're not used to setting up quickly
and when it does go well it's all right we're going to do a last minute pass to uh to varus
along the boards okay so you're entering but it's on the perimeter we don't mind that okay so they
chip it in uh we have a little board battle uh along the half wall we don't mind that that kills
the clock we put it into the corner and it's another board battle and we kill some more of
the clock we don't mind that and if we get it we'll just throw it around i don't think the
leafs are doing anything the bruins don't want them to do on the power play i really don't i
think every time that's best case scenario it goes well for the leafs and the bruins are like
yeah chill i can handle that's pretty cool good please keep the strategy forever yeah the leafs
uh should at minimum be up to one in the series um i mean at very minimum should tie it up in game
for um it's it's really frustrating it's really really frustrating the next thing i want to talk
about and and jesse and i talked about this at the scotia box last night it's a john tavaris
okay uh john's been fine he scored a goal like yeah yeah he's not 11 million dollar player no
and that's fine i'm not expecting that anymore like towards the end of an eight-year deal who
is or a seven-year deal who is like that that's that's how the contracts work unfortunately and
we knew we knew that would be the case and hopefully he signs an extension and is the
third line center here years and years and and or becomes a winger whatever I don't care it's part
of the reason we don't harp on him uh as much as Marner is Marner was supposed to grow into the
deal and Tavares we always knew was going to age out of it yeah he scored 47 goals and we're like
well that's probably the peak of that the Leafs expected to win the cup earlier than that or at
least make a deeper run right they expected to do it in the first three years of his deal every bet
they made on those long contracts they lost except for matthews i would say matthews was a pretty
good one um the the issue i have with john at least at this point is this is your six of seven
um you are the captain you see um i i saw i think it was in the second period jesse if i got if i
remember right um there was a player down a boston bruin had and this is the playoffs i'm not saying
this is a bruins thing um had knocked a leaf down it was dirty it's the playoffs you expect that
and when i see when i see it happen to like a domey or one of the leafs defensemen and
bertuzzi's out there bertuzzi's in there and i'm going to just go over to steve here for a second
maddie and he's grabbing him and he's face washing him and he's just giving him a whole wow
it was a good look there steve he's like you're smelling bertuzzi's glove the rest of the game
yeah uh when somebody does it to bertuzzi domi's in there doing it matthews is throwing hits and
grant strong arming guys john tavaris comes in and he's like hey how you doing pal hey
hey hey and i and i look why don't you why don't you hit me like you mean it next time
and call me call me a neanderthal for this but i said to him i'm like wouldn't it be great if
john could express any sort of intensity for once that was the time to do it if well listen
if we were playing hockey and someone took a cheap shot at you guys in men's league i'd be
fucking pissed about it but i'm emotional there and and and i and i would really love for john
to step in and go fuck off and just i totally just cold cock a guy just and you know what take
the penalty just fucking wham people have been saying nobody wants and and that is and jesse
what did you say to me uh he doesn't have it in his dna to do that that's a problem that is a
problem captain need to have your composure also need to set the example brad marchand emotional
brad marchand uh can keep his composure now yeah has grown into it but he's also a guy that sets
the tone and he's transitioning into being an older player so well it's beautiful to watch
don't even realize it like his shot is still ridiculous he's he's lost like a little bit of
a step he's not lightning like he used to be so he's still quick um but the i know what you mean
the battle in him is just different and he finds a way to be an agitator while still avoiding the
most painful of the nonsense he's aging really gracefully into being an older player i need
the next Leafs captain and I believe it's going to be Matthews and I believe it's going to be
this offseason it needs to be now he's an intense guy yeah Austin Austin doesn't doesn't have that
thing what I felt like with John in that situation and I have felt like this for a while because
it's difficult you don't ever really can take shots at John he plays well defensively he always
tries his best but at the end of the day um that doesn't make you a captain anymore this this team
needs somebody who is a fucking laser they have one and i need the guys to be looking at austin
matthews now if i if i'm you know the leafs management whoever of them is going to survive
this i think that you can't have john tavaris going in there and going yeah he fell down i'll
grab a guy it's sort of just you know go through the routine and then head back to the bench you
can't fucking do that well and it cannot do that anymore especially against boston and you're
allowed to have those happy-go-lucky guys go look at the florida panthers they have carter verhage
who like literally looks like uh he looks like some sort of character from recess or like a
young version of uh which one is wallace and which one's gromit uh gromit i think is the dog oh
grommets the dog so he looks like a young version of wallace with hair uh his line mates are
frigging matthew kachuk and sam bennett two complete psychopaths and that's how he's able to
get away with it you have john tavaris on a line with mitch marner and a kid and yeah and matthew
nice who i think is going to grow into a problem but he's a kid that's just that's a kid he's what
21 it's just a weak line um they're all talented players that can do talented things and make magic
happen we saw it last night but it's just too weak and then what's the third line for god's sake
holmberg who's turned into a feistier player at least yarn croak who's not very big but he's got
some and nick robertson who's a bug like who's a very talented bug but again you can have one of
them maybe even two on the same line three uh you're just you're just gonna get killed and
fresh meat they miss bobby mcmahon oh they miss him so bad loki missing bobby mcmahon has been
like a huge deal in this lineup they're saying games potentially game five game six guy that
would be huge um akin to the bruins getting back i want to say it was sean corrali um the series
was real real close real real tight i think it was 2019 and they got him back and it was just
that little extra thing this big fast intense guy that the leafs just weren't able to overcome it
just gave them that little bit of extra depth bobby mcmahon i feel like can be that and then
you got william kneelander who's got to be one of the strongest guys in the team at least in terms
of like try to knock him off the puck you know what i mean they really miss those two it's the
playoffs it's the friggin playoffs man you got to find a way to look at what the miami heat are
doing in the friggin nba they should be getting killed by 30 points every game and they're in
that series with boston um this happens it happens throughout sports um i mean look at the vegas
golden knights they have a bunch of guys who just got back from injury no stop sorry stop it i can't
believe my cup pick is down to nothing that was a weird cup pick i'm gonna be honest dallas yeah
but you look at who they're playing and their road to the stanley cup final yeah but it was either
dallas has to beat vegas or vegas has to beat dallas and i looked at uh i looked at that it's
really really really difficult for both of them to do no i'm not gonna take the guys who loaded
up and just won a championship dallas finished a point back of the president's trophy no not the
team that's just really really good for playoff a lot of people pick the stars you and julian
mckenzie i think both have dallas as your stanley oh well now i'm even more confident in my pick
i think it should be the other way no uh uh the um the domey versus swayman thing obviously there
was that clip about what happened during a commercial break but jesse and i were there
live um uh so domi from one angle looks like he kind of trips swayman and swayman falls no let's
show the let's show the let's show the real angle you think it's a flop oh no no have you seen the
flop Steve I don't have to think oh really there's one angle that you saw and then there's the flop
angle and hang on we'll throw it up on the screen here um the other thing Jesse that I think you'll
find hilarious is Jim Montgomery this morning was going was selling it this morning he's like I
can't believe he's like it clearly swayman's in their heads that they would do that to him
so watch this with jim montgomery's words in your ears plug in both your ears all right can you do
a play-by-play for the listeners okay here's max domey and jeremy swayman i mean swayman does appear
to be sort of leaning into him oh you know what yeah you haven't seen this have you that's real
interesting yeah look at him go down look at that by the way that's the first time swayman's ever
skated i have you wow no i haven't seen that embarrassing so the other one i've seen the one
where uh the camera's facing dome yes you see the back of his way you can't tell you have to see the
you have to see the other angle lean in and then just like nudge each other's shoulders and then
this i mean i do think domi engages him but like that's i didn't know i think swayman got what he
wanted there look at his arm look at his arm oh wow wow wow wow man flopped and that's okay i guess
i guess because that's gamemanship wow the bruins are divers now you're well they are they're a
different team from what i remember marchand dove the other day yeah mcavoy oh mcavoy at the end of
the game with the Tavares thing oh yeah bad my problem I can't believe the refs are in the mirror
the refs the refs I think though are are they're a bit on to McAvoy they don't like being made
fools of no and you know what uh I've seen uh yeah McAvoy does sometimes have a hard time
getting calls the the one thing I want to say about that again is I want to repeat what Jim
Montgomery said which is Swayman's clearly in their heads that Max Domi would have to do that
oh yeah he said that this morning at practice uh the playoffs are where the coaches come out to
play it's fun no my problem with this maddie pull it up my real problem with this mitch marner just
working on his edges in the corner oh stop it shut up no no what i actually want to say was
my real problem with this is this went on because we were there in the building you can see
right there the ice crew was on the ice yeah i don't like there you guys are professional
athletes like i get it's intense your game you're all focused in this you're doing all this
nonsense when the ice crew is out on the ice you can't be playing around and shit yeah you can't
have to kill them this poor girl who's trying to just fucking get the snow off the ice and you're
there pushing pushing and shoving like they're they're actually trying to do their job during
this commercial break and it's your you guys are grown men like get out of their way you also can't
see it there but the entire shovel crew is right underneath for two that's what i'm saying they go
and they they have to clean the ice and they're trying to do their jobs and these guys are doing
shenanigans in the middle of the ice like that's come on and then and the talking went on for like
two minutes yeah and then so yeah there was a at center ice it was marshan and i forget i think
it was mccabe who was out there for the leafs maroon was out there too and so was out there
so was reeves and marshan was talking with the ref the whole time and i think they were telling
them you guys you can't be fucking doing this you still have that you still have that sign stick
that i gave you do you need a new one i can give you a new one you coming over to dinner yeah hey
um as soon as one of us retires we're going to be close personal friends and we're going to talk
about it on podcast all right cool can't wait what can we watch this one more time yeah sure
well we can't show it on the it's just dude swayman fully engages him that's crazy yeah
oh that that pushed him look look look then he falls he's fine he's fine look he's fine
dude that's markstrom at the world juniors level that's so bad oh he leaves both feet
oh dude that's terrible oh no jeremy
jeremy fell in class listen i do think domi i mean was happy with how that went yeah yeah
Yeah, because Swayman looked like a dork.
That's an enormous flop.
And the ref was like, come on, I just saw that.
Are you kidding me?
That's why there's no penalty on the play.
Oh, and here comes Maroon to go, hey-oh, hey-oh.
Just to clarify things.
Guys who have not aged gracefully into their role.
He used to be big rig, and now he's, hey-oh, hey-oh.
Here I am, skating over your red line.
I'm skating over your red line.
Hey-oh, do something, Pat.

it's got it and guess what boys and they're spokespeople for tim hortons and they did the
drive-thru together and the zamboni oh good employees i'm very happy they put them on a
car together now this one might be the most valuable of the bunch because i got i oh you've
got a mcdavid card oh that's nice for you oh you've got a matthews card that's nice for you
i got a both rink there you go uh and it says this on the back battling the nhl's top goal

world free from the fear of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca um on a lighter note jesse i have
sent you a screen grab and i this was making the rounds of pete blackburn is like i really want to
beat this guy up um uh this is a guy who had a bruins jersey but had leaf uh leaf patches stuck
to it um and we can explain yes we can explain actually um so this is not like a custom jersey
that he had made no so this has to do with what we were down there to help promote which is the
uh merchify uh yourself that scotia banks do it it has a name it's called make it merch oh make
it merch excuse me but jesus adam i i had uh make it merch i brought mine so i don't know uh so i
was down there we actually know we ran into we ran into lindsey hamilton from uh from tsn she was
she brought like a whole bag of clothes to do it dude brilliant it was so smart she did it on like
a golf club head and everything like are the uh the covers for it but anyway look so this is just
an h&m t-shirt that i got the you know playoffs 24 on it and they got a nice little leafs uh
Leafs thing and they basically just
it's like an oven or not an oven like a hot
they're ironing it yeah yeah they're ironing it up
and so that's what he had done which I thought was
hilarious he did an interview with the
the bar down crew that was down there doing streeters
and he explained to them he's like yeah I had
this Bruins jersey because I was a Bruins fan for a little
bit for a few years and then I switched
back to the Leafs and I brought it down
because now I'm a Leafs fan so he brought it to the
make it merch and Jesse Pollock was probably like what about the
Jets
Avs in four
jets they said steph curry good and couldn't shoot three yeah um anyway sorry sorry can we
get the sammy do we want to well uh the frederick goal uh can't fucking go in yeah that yeah can't
go in and uh i i don't goal three can't go in can't uh it's a good shot there you go he's down
dude he's down he's down too quick i mean that come on dude i i don't know look at the fans
they're losing their minds they're so excited they're so excited that bertuzzi marshan thing
is going on this play should have been long dead and there's no excuse for this going in so some
people were like well sammy was distracted by the marshan bertuzzi thing i'm like is this your first
game in the nhl is this your first game of professional hockey in your entire life brutal
the puck sam the puck he's not he's not leo it's not like oh dinosaurs yeah what the fuck you're
talking i have to turn the tv off when i want to tell him something because he's
samsonov is a legal adult with hundreds of nhl games under his belt
and like dude he's set he's looking at it this cannot under any circumstances be a goal
under any circumstances that can't be a goal i i finally the leafs have good defensive coverage
it's just oh they push him to the outside dude i i don't care what he did in game two
you don't know what you're getting from this goaltender forget game in game out shot in shot
out literally shot in and out the back of the net because it friggin if pierce the mesh i have a
theory if joe wall had come back and played well from injury he'd be in he would have probably been
in after game one you would have a million percent he for sure would be in now but he played like
crap he played like crap and so they don't really have an option and martin jones was playing great
and he was falling off towards the end but like his his couple of games he was just rusty and you
just can't it doesn't give you a better opportunity you gotta i don't have an appetite for this
goaltender so what do you do what do you do here do you try wall because he was great in the playoffs
last year but he's clearly still not 100 percent leafs go down 3-1 uh you think they come back and
win it i don't well dude it's a pivotal game right yeah it's like so the reason i'm asking
that is i'm asking that out loud because internally i'm like well give him one more game
i that's what i'm thinking you give him one more game and he's dog shit it doesn't matter
okay but joseph wall's such an unknown that i'm i'm like i don't have any confidence that
joseph was better than what sammy elia samsonov is an unknown yeah but is joseph wall better
Is he at least more consistent?
I don't think.
Not right.
Not what we've seen so far of Joseph Walsh since he's come back from his injury.
He hasn't been.
Martin Jones is the right answer.
Good Lord.
I think you got to stick with Sammy through this.
I think he gets every start in the series until they lose four.
If they lose four.
Because Joseph Walsh is such an unknown.
And he hasn't proven that he deserves a shot at this.
And Sammy has.
So you ride it until the end.
you gotta
again i don't want to look forward to the off season uh i mean win or lose you i don't think
you can bring this person back uh you don't know what you're getting um but it's the hardest
position to get somebody you know i know you gotta you think that's the general manager's
problem that's what you get paid for go back to the drawing board and try again he's not coming
back like either they lose and he's not a person worth coming back or hilariously they win and
they can't afford to bring him back right so he's not coming back uh you're looking at wool and
question mark matt murray uh i don't know no i don't know um you know there there are so many
i don't know what they try to get some goals i you know we've talked about the depth a little bit
and it'd be nice to get like a bottom six goal it would be i don't think the bruins have a ton
of those either like they got the the first their first goal was also from their fourth line
then they've got like a bunch of power play goals marsh and marsh and fred well frederick is
maybe it just comes down to stop that muffin yep um and score some power play goals change up the
power play maybe that's the beginning middle and end of it i didn't like the marsh and goal either
i think when somebody comes out from behind the net and it's like a shot against your post your
job is to hug the post like he was down so fast like you're if you're if the shot can only go
to the side of the post,
your job is to hug it as the goaltender.
I didn't like that goal either.
Well, then again,
you think Wolfe's worse than that?
I think...
Does Wolfe have a chance to stop
either the first or the third goal?
Yes, he would have stopped.
100%.
Because he stands.
He's a stander.
I think Ilya Samsonov has earned his right
to the net through his play
and that right now it's a situation
where you have to ride him.
unless it's unless it gets to a point where it's unrideable which i don't think it is right now
this is what i'm saying like if if the first goal he allows in game four is bad that's that's it
it's over thank you for your service that's it you can't lose this game this is essentially do
or die like teams have come back from 3-1 before it happened to the bruins last year actually
um it's still very rare and we've seen the leafs uh in 2013 and 2018 force a game seven in boston
while down 3-1 both times and they lost it you have to win this damned game you have to win it
are you suggesting you pull them after a goal in the game that's not that's not a good strategy do
you trust this goaltender yeah right now i do like you trust this goalie i don't start the
next game you just said he allowed two bad goals no but playoff game do i trust is he going to be
the starter for next game yeah that means you got to trust him if he's if he's if you don't trust
him then you then you don't start him next yeah but that's blind faith yeah it's not faith based
in anything he's what is the other option joseph wall and hopefully he elevates you would start
joseph wall next game based off of his terrible play that is a ridiculous way to go about it
it's my second priority behind the power play today if i'm the head coach you're starting joseph
wall in game four my second priority is to have the conversation with my staff and see if i get
pushed back like you're giving me because i can be convinced i'm reasonable okay i'm a reasonable
man like listen uh yeah putting joseph wall randomly into a series yeah that does sound
crazy this goalie's not good enough i think he can be and he has proven that he can be so you
you so do it yes yes so do it yes yes yeah but is is so do it too much to ask because it's looking
increasingly like the answer is yes what that's what you get that answer once the series play
once they at our point where he is unplayable so we're not gonna know we don't we don't have
the answer and that's that's how the playoffs work man that's that's literally how these
series work i mean it happened to boston last year if you knew what was gonna play out you
would fix it yeah we don't we don't have the magic eight balls to unfortunately solve this you have
to see how it plays out if mitch marner goes out there and is awful then you have answers if if
austin matthews goes out there and scores a hundred goals that you have answers on austin
matthews like these this is how it works boston doesn't start omark in game five against the
panthers last year if if they realize that the injury is that severe that it's going to hamper
them right that was a mistake huge mistake huge mistake it's the reason that they lost the series
maddie here's the uh third goal that so uh samson off allowed it's he he comes over he's going post
to post marshan gets the puck out in front on the face off dot he's already down there's only one
spot in the net where marshan can snipe it and he does he goes top corner right side and goes right
over his shoulder and it's in the net you know how many goals down the stretch this season and
in this series feature a screenshot with five Leafs and three Bruins five Leafs and three
attackers you don't know what you're doing you don't know what you're doing there's five of you
there's three of them you don't know what you're doing one of them is literally touching the corner
you don't know what you're doing Sheldon didn't tell you to do this like so for me with Sheldon
it's not like a matter of systems it's a matter of these players don't listen to you
you don't know what you're doing oh they got to do this and they got to do that and they got to
no they need to know what they're doing it comes down to they have no idea what they're doing
do you know do you have an answer for me on how the leafs lost this puck battle
because if you look at it right joel edmondson
this puck
Bob's your uncle there you go
this puck right now is the puck
that leads to Marshawn's
stick and is a goal for the
Boston Bruins it is on
the Leafs stick behind
the net with a man
for the outlet around the boards
actually like forget going around
the boards there's no
one there I know
Marshawn ends up streaking in
but like pull the puck
you could you have bertuzzi you have domi you have anything but what happened so how does he
lose this battle right there does matthews hit it that's that's they just go see where it's right
there it comes like here can you take it off the screen so that we can play it you want to play it
yeah so okay lilligren falls down edmondson just throws it right into matthew skate and there you
go it's in the net quick one two dude that you don't know what you're doing like that's supposed
to be your your playoff uh unflappable stalwart there and edmondson going whoops they did that a
lot uh edmondson and lilligren last night they did not look steady yo that ref uh has who is that
edmondson locked up yes that's pat bev right there you got him locked up he's not getting
through you he's not getting through you look at that look at that that is all league all world
defense hey so let me ask you a question if a friend says a show is good do you watch it are

I would like to talk about I would like to talk about Joe Bowen's tweet.
Joe Bowen, who, if you're not familiar, is the radio announcer for the Toronto Maple Leafs, used to be TV as well.
But because Sportsnet wants to use their own people and because they even if it's a Canadian team versus an American team, want to appear neutral.
Joe Bowen is not on TV anymore, and he is the best caller the Leafs have ever had.
think of if you're a bruins fan think of jack edwards uh who um you know is going to retire
at the end of this year um you know he's he's beloved in the community leaf fans are dying for
him to get on tv the networks just won't do it for whatever reason um it's been a number of years too
yeah nice man uh interesting to hear or interesting to read this tweet can we bring it up on screen so
here's what he says the idea of going to any sporting event to support the home team is to
be proactive why is it give the team structured like a hike because i think he i think he wrote
it and it doesn't matter it's like the guy's like 65 no i know what are we are we gonna pick him
yeah we're nitpicking can i just get through this i want to get through this tweet the idea
what is this your first show with me the idea of going through maddie please put it back on screen
the idea of going to any what do you think no maddie take it off what do you think of the
structure of the tweet maddie yeah you gotta pull down the mic he hit return to off i think it's
effective yeah i like it the idea of going no to any sporting event out of that you can read it
the idea of going hey adam he's actually 73 the idea of going to any sporting event he's 73 to
73 to support the whole team is to be proactive give the team energy when they need it not sitting
down waiting to be reactive the players can't say it but i will tonight's crowd was very disappointing
i'll be honest with you um the crowd was right into it after the first goal the crowd was right
into it after the second goal what happened they blew it now and hold on how fucking quickly did
they blow it like immediately a fucking minute later less this shit you know what i understand
i get it i understand that we got a lot of suits in the building and i fucking can't stand when
people are in platinum seats during a playoff game wearing a suit fuck off and put a jersey on
i don't care how important your client is you're at a leafs game because your client loves the
leafs too put on a leafs jersey wave a goddamn towel wake up the games in boston i couldn't
believe how many jerseys were right up against the glass 100 you never see that here you just
don't see it but here's what i want to say we know that yeah we know that i gotta ask the media
people the media all of us we're all jealous we're all we're all no jealous we're all guilty of this
the media we know that the barn in toronto that the it's just not it's just not great because of
the platinum level sections which are very expensive seats oppressively and they're
excessively expensive and guess what that gets us what the the it gives us a ton of we have more
coaches than any team in the nhl you know not only do we have assistant coaches but we have an
offensive coordinator and a defense coordinator you know that mike van ryan is a defensive
coordinator for the leafs oh man we have five effing coaches we have more scouts we have more
this more that than anybody else bigger analytic staff not sure how much it's done for us those
people are buying those things for us okay yeah so i am willing to accept that but what i am not
willing to accept is completely erasing the fact that the fans were into it and the reasons the
fans are reactive is because this team fucking blows it all the time and when you're in the
building you can feel it you're nervous you're nervous sorry i'm sorry is my cheering not good
enough for you well your winning isn't good enough for me so enough with this shit i understand and
i'm willing to accept the trade-off the fans were loud jesse and i were up in the 600 level so that
so that's the gondola level and we were up right above the uh the blues and the greens which are
they those people are loud it's loud up there and i've been to bruins playoff games it's loud in
there but and and the fans were rocking before that game when the leafs opened the scoring they
It was ear-splitting.
The problem we have is that we continue to have a team
that we cannot trust.
I can't enjoy the good moments.
I can't enjoy being up 1-0.
I can't enjoy tying the game 2-2.
I can't enjoy it.
I can't.
Ryan Reeves went out there and had some banger shifts.
Crazy stuff.
Fans are right into it.
What happens?
Boston comes back and scores or has a crazy opportunity.
at some point expecting the fans to carry an 83 million dollar team to victory is fucking
bullshit it's a bullshit ask win fucking win man gotta win win now another problem and i've said
this for a few years is um you know what's impossible to do literally impossible is go
to a leaf game with a big group unless you're like spectacularly rich unless you like own the
team yeah like a corporate sponsor but even then you would have to know someone because all these
season seats are owned by like all these different corporate like who would you even call yeah you're
getting two by twos right like i was so i was counting on my fingers while you were going on
that rant because i'm trying to figure out how many letters are in matthews and the reason i
was trying to do that is remember the dudes who followed the team around yep they went to buffalo
they went to buffalo and both games in florida couldn't do that eight guys no eight guys sat
next to each other you can't do that here no that'd be you can't bring a group of eight people
eight seats eight seats don't exist consecutively in scotiabank arena that you can push purchase
which is by the way a good thing that's a good problem to have i would argue that's a good
problem to have for the leafs well for the team yeah financially you're talking about the bottom
line yeah yeah and that's what fandom but that is why i put it on the organization because okay
okay fine you want to sell all those platinum seats at outrageous prices that really only
corporations can buy because that's really only where it makes sense you buy that personally and
you can't write it off you're you're you're blowing money out of the window like you're
you're torching it the reason that those corporate seats are there and the reason they'll spend money
on them is they can write them off that's taxable income that goes to them and it doesn't go to
Justin Trudeau and they're thrilled about that my point is we've given you the money we've accepted
that our barn isn't as exciting
because we're, as fans,
we understand that that's happening.
We've given you all the resources.
I'm sorry.
It comes back to the team.
It comes back to management.
It comes back to how this has all been put together,
which is, if I can guarantee you,
the reason why Boston fans are dancing in the aisles
is because they've won before.
It's because they've been good for a long time.
And yes, they haven't won a cup since 2011,
but they've been to the finals.
they regularly win one or two rounds last year was was such a story because they didn't win
yep honestly Boston fans are confident as a Leaf fan do you know what that feels like
and is that your fault I don't think the only thing against the winning argument is that there
are plenty of places around the league that have much better atmospheres like currently every
Canadian team in the playoffs has much better atmospheres and none of them have won anything
so this is what i was going to ask the closest comparable i can think of like a team that has
had basically exclusively heartbreak uh they're a little on edge they haven't been in the playoffs
for a while they got a lot of corporate backing that's vancouver who have just a terrific
atmosphere for these two games it's also right so why does it suck shit here it's been 10 years
since vancouver's been in there they're riding a high of just being there so and it's not an
insult so the now now so that's an interesting point so i'm trying to figure out was it louder
in 2017 when that rookie team made it sure for the leafs and you know what it was yeah because
we were riding high but we had what has happened how many games seven or game five meltdowns has
this team had since boston 2018 2019 uh 2020 2020 and we weren't even there 2021 and we weren't even
there 2022 uh they finally won in 23 and they lost to florida in toronto so so let me let me
ask what i mean yeah so listen scar tissue dude nothing against joe bowen personally no i understand
what he's saying but dude like what do you expect these guys this team it might as well be tattooed
on them it's their dna to fuck up they fucked up in an empty building two of them so don't tell me
don't tell me it's on the fans to lift in a hundred million dollar fucking it's I said 83
million it's a hundred million it's a hundred million that they spent on salaries this year
it's a hundred million dollar roster and it's on me who makes I don't know who I'm you know I'm
gonna say average salary somebody who squeaks into a game because they have a cousin who's got
season seats that go back three generations and I'm gonna go and this is my one time in the last
five years that I've been to a game and you're telling me sitting in the greens or sitting in
the golds or sitting in the reds that it's my fault my fault stop it win win stop that you got
to give them a reason i i 100 and you know what the building was going it was going jesse we were
there it was going it wasn't like it was going but it's not as good as what happened in edmonton
it's not as good as what happened in winnipeg it's not as good as what happened in vancouver
and i'm not ashamed to admit that the like i've been to a game in vegas like i've been to a
regular season game in vegas and that atmosphere trumps scotiabank arena every single well then
then it's on the leafs to fix that we got a stat last night from producer nick so producer nick
uh we're like a week into the playoffs has already been to three playoff games in three
different canadian cities he went to vancouver he went to edmonton and now he's in toronto
vancouver and edmonton both hit 115 on the decibel meter nice and uh the leafs uh highest they got
was i think 101 guys this is the trade-off this is the most profitable franchise in the nhl the
way that you make it the most profitable franchise in the nhl is doing that the reason they make it
the most profitable franchise in the nhl and they don't just go you know what we'll take all those
corporate seats back and we'll you know what i don't want to make 100 million extra dollars i
would rather just have fans in the building if you want to do that that's great but but
leaf fans are willing to take that trade-off if the team wins and this is where the frustration
comes in and this is where the nervousness comes in i cheer for what what did i have to cheer for
last night what exactly did you give me to cheer for oh it's my fault i fucking can't stand it if
listen if if it was like ottawa 2017 they're in the eastern conference final and they're not
selling out then i could say hey guys show up here i'll give you a great come to the game i'll give
you a great example adam you got to give fans something they love it's not a lovable no no no
it's not a lovable team but there are lovable figures around it you got to give them something
they love game three 2017 against the washington capitals capitals are uh wrecking the leafs early
early leafs fell down i want to say two nothing early buildings dead everyone's like oh my god
They're going to lose this game.
They're going to get run out of the building.
I just wasted all this money on these tickets.
I was sitting next to an Oilers fan for some reason who was just shitting on Toronto the whole time.
I'm like, why are you here?
Go away.
And he wasn't wearing a jersey or anything.
You know what got the building on its feet?
You know what led to three massive hits from the Leafs and a goal the next shift?
You know what made the whole building loud before the puck was even dropped for that shift?
they show dart guy on the screen because dart guy became a thing game two of that series i remember
that so game three yeah that was in washington game three the phenomenon of dart guy arrives
back home in toronto they show him on the screen 20 000 people lose their fucking minds
lose their fucking minds and nazim kadri goes fucking right and he runs over brooks or pick
twice and leo kamarov blows someone up and then matthews scores and then they're in that game
and then guess what they ended up winning that game 4-3 in overtime bozak bozak you got to give
them something they love and that i thought was brilliant from leafs game ops during that game
um because the leafs were not giving the fans something that they loved so they're like well
there's dart guy and they bring him out there nails it now i don't think adam's point though
should be lost that no the we sometimes have to accept that it's not going to be as good but the
trade-off is that you get the best of the best if you like and and jesse you're wearing a rangers
jersey like yeah there's no corporate seats in new york right yeah but it's not the same
not even close to the same the rangers are like the sixth most popular team in new york it's not
the same stop fucking making that argument too not just you i'm talking about anybody that makes
that argument it's disingenuous stop hockey is a niche sport no you're you're off with six six
six what do you got hold on what you got you got rangers you got so you got hold on giants jets
Yankees Mets what else do we have no no I'm not putting I'm not putting the Mets over the Rangers
I am that I think I think you're wrong I think I'm a hundred percent right all right the Mets
are a far more popular team and I think they're worth more than the than the rain no wait though
wait though let's let's concede that Jesse let's give it to Adam give it so was it Jets Giants
Yankees Mets no no take the Mets away just humor him take the Mets away okay uh what else do we
have there's oh knicks yeah are they are they bigger bigger or smaller than the knicks bigger
no sorry the big rangers yeah smaller okay so jesse best case they're fifth and then you got
the nets too i think i don't know i don't know enough about bigger than the nets probably i don't
know i don't know i like i think you got some legit arguments uh with jets and like i think
even if they're third toronto is number one by a country mile they're yeah they're between fifth
and seventh no but you're talking you're talking like population base i'm talking popularity based
i'm talking about where it appears in the newspaper so the population base is larger in
new york so there's a more cumulative amount of fans yes you know and that's why the rangers make
so much money yeah there's so much more money in new york that's what i'm saying so like i don't
know i don't i think like i think steve had a point when he was trying to bring up that in other
places where there are a massive amount of corporate dollars they are still able to generate
great atmosphere okay you want to go to a different sport that you said that you said is
more popular than new york rangers the new york knicks have a fantastic atmosphere they have more
corporate dollars than the leafs and the rangers and they have they have celebrity row and they're
able to create a great atmosphere and and you know what maybe the maybe on that point completely get
it and i would concede and i think the rangers first off the rangers the reason they're so
profitable. If the Rangers were a standalone, they would not be near as profitable as they are.
They are able to group sell. The sales team sells both Knicks and Rangers. Everybody wants to buy
Knicks and will throw the Rangers in. And so the Rangers have a halo effect that they benefit from
the Knicks because the Knicks are iconic. I also think, Jesse, you make a really,
really good point. They make a point of making it an atmosphere. MLSE has never done that.
Yeah. And so that is a failing again. Is that a feeling of the fans? Is it the fans job that MLSC hasn't done that, that they don't have a celebrity row? No, it's not. Right. And I think putting this on the face, if you go to the Los Angeles Lakers, they have a problem that the Leafs have where their atmosphere in L.A. isn't comparable to other places like New York, even though they're as big of a market.
yeah but what do they have to cheer for they go out and get lebron james and then we can talk
they have a very like no hate to you guys but i think it's true they have a more stuffy atmosphere
where it's more of a uptight celebrity culture there where people regular people are a lot priced
out of lakers games and with nicks games even though it's a crazy expensive ticket even though
it's one of the most valuable franchises in the nba they still able to create this atmosphere so
like i'm not videos of knicks fans outside the building it's amazing it's amazing some of my
favorite things best things in sports holy shit like they're randomly talking shit to lebron
they're not even playing so i love it i'm not willing to give uh mlse any leeway with
hey it's the corporate seat so you can't create a great atmosphere like they got to be able to
make that too i agree and i and that's that's my whole point and this is where and i feel
again joe bowen is just the latest in the in the parade of of media people who've said well the
fans need to be no no no no no do the fans on the building do the fans on the team the the
fans do not set deeper the atmosphere yeah mlse sets the atmosphere and the leafs set the tone
dude oh i was making fun of it on the stream there's it's a one goal game there's less than
two minutes by the way what uh not even not even kidding this is part of the reason why i'm like
man you should be in that freaking building doing the streams not that you would well booze count
as noise not as the whole yeah not not as like oh well well if steve's there they're gonna cheer
that's not what i'm saying like do something you know like you know that's that body that dead body
uh meme where it's like are you gonna well do something i got i got something way way simpler
There's less than two minutes to go
In a one goal playoff game
Are you fucking kidding?
That's what they did
Charge!
Which by the way
What is this a little league game?
Also nobody can relate to the charge thing anymore
It's over
It's over
We gotta
What is this 1994?
We gotta move on
Guys get a pulse
you play metallica when they come out you play enter sandman and you're like holy shit
these ain't your dad's leaves and then over the course of the game that atmosphere just
dies a terrible terrible death and dude that's something so simple it doesn't take much to get
a bunch of nervous people riled up that's all you got to do is rile them up you're not necessarily
quelling their anxiety but that's not gonna get anybody what are we doing i also want to say that
uh you want you want atmosphere outside yeah anybody who's ever stood in maple leaf square
will tell you it's like being electrocuted someone on the stream said pump in audio from
maple leaf why not and it's actually one of the most brilliant ideas i've heard you want to do
that why don't why don't they ever show a shot of maple leaf square inside the arena yo ever great
point they never great idea great never do they didn't do that last night no i haven't been in
there no they do it they do it on the feed like the hockey night in canada does it yeah of course
they do guess what that's great camera yeah because that's where the fans are going nuts
they're not going nuts inside i mean i guess they are but not nearly as nice fucking can't i i'd say
again none all of this that we've all that we've litigated here none of this comes back to the
fans being the problem quick stop it quick shout out uh the two Bruins fans who I saw in Maple Leaf
Square I just respect the bravery that's all oh yeah yeah there were they were trying to start
some let's go Bruins chance yeah they left with a victory what to each other yeah yeah they were
they were loud um okay so we got some breaking news and I think Steve saw uh too Bob Cole has
passed away at the age of 90 legendary play-by-play voice of um CBC Hockey Night in Canada for years
and years and years um bob is somebody that steve does a great uh impression of i won't have you do
that here don't worry um and is beloved um uh one of newfoundland's greatest treasures i think
he used to fly in every game uh that he did he would but he would no going back to newfoundland
not gonna move here um so bob cole uh age of 90 obviously if you've heard this show um uh you've
heard how much we love bob and so uh our condolences to his family now we do have to move on to other
teams here uh sure now did you guys see did you guys see the cody cc clip oh my god yeah he missed
a one-timer dude his and one mixtape of like bloopers is so good when the leaf when he scored
in the columbus series for the leafs he had a slap shot that was going about 20 feet wide
and it hit a blue jacket and went in see was that in the regular season no that was playoffs the
playoff one it was uh that jim hewson clip cody cc misses by a mile and the leafs ended up winning
that game in overtime that was the one where they had the huge comeback and thank goodness they did
or that clip would have been way bigger yeah way bigger in leaf floor yep but yeah he missed the
net by a country mile and he missed the tappiest tap-in i've ever seen oh oh my god jesse that's
Please pull that.
Is the puck on his stick right now?
No!
He puts it right by the goalie.
And also the net.
That's like me playing NHL 24.
I'm terrible.
I don't know if you'd be able to pull that off in a video game.
Like, I don't know if the code would permit it.
That's brutal.
When is this in the game?
Is this overtime?
No, I don't think so.
I'm mad that I missed overtime.
But I missed it too.
um with the with the game itself um i don't think edmonton fans should be too worried about them
winning this series cam talbot absolutely stood on his head and he made like at least three 10
bell saves so i think if if if there's any consolation for losing a game in overtime
it's you scored four goals in a game where the goalie was unbeatable and you lost unfortunately
and had cc scored they would have won by yeah you you score you score four goals you should be fine
going forward it's just if you can get a save from stewart skinner and if darnell nurse can play a
little better defense if your whole team can play a little better defense you'll be you'll be fine
in this series so i don't think they're too concerned but the kings like to their credit
they stuck in there it was great to see dowdy uh go back to old form get that goal there kopitar
obviously in overtime um it was a really good hockey game back and forth but i don't think
edmonton's gonna be too upset with this loss because they were in it i really really really
like the oilers this was never gonna be a sweep no no things are too good yeah way too good i
don't know man that first 10 minutes i was like i was like oh there's been times where i'm like
uh-oh yeah uh i'm with you talbot had this in him like it's a to steal a game every once in a while
yeah but he was he was impressive and this is like i said all he allowed four goals and he's
still the reason they won like it's it was an impressive victory for them that guy was an all
star this year i know uh jesse i agree with you um what i want to ask is like when you look at
the just just look at the box score okay la gets three in the first edmonton gets one if if if
edmonton just comes out stronger in in los angeles this is over right this was in edmonton edmonton
No, I know, but in Game 3.
Come out stronger.
Oh, if they come out stronger in Game 3, this is over.
Sorry.
I'm not sharp.
This is over.
And neither were the Oilers.
Hey, whoa.
Hey.
You know, I just think I could be wrong.
Crazy stuff happens in the playoffs all the time.
There's such a talent gap here.
There's such a talent gap here.
Yeah.
And it's impossible.
Like, how's LA supposed to prepare for McDavid?
Like, you can't.
Oh, now, one thing I did want to show you guys.
I don't know if you saw this clip, but I'm going to send it over to you, Jesse.
Did you see McDavid playing ping pong?
No.
Are we moving off the game?
Well, I just wanted to show you this.
No, it's McDavid being the ping pong ball.
Okay.
Yes, I did see this.
And he was laughing.
It was kind of funny.
He enjoyed it.
He's getting shoved all around by the LA Kings.
Got to be careful, though.
Reminds me a little bit too much of Ben Sherratt tossing Matthews around.
Oh, okay.
now talk about that well so what that was is the least we're like nope namaste like we're not going
to engage in this nonsense and ben charot still proceeded to go and basically hulk with loki
like smashing them uh through the concrete and everything and being the pacifist there didn't
help the leafs in the series yeah um not that mcdavid should try to fight three guys at the
same time well he was kind of alone like i don't know what he's gonna do here uh but so it so
So this is how it ends, what we have on screen right now.
But if we rewind it just a couple of seconds here,
you'll see that...
Oh, Adrian Kempe.
Oh, we're doing this in reverse.
The first cross-check's a little high.
Look at that.
Gavrikov, yeah, rides up.
A little high, and then Kopitar hits him.
Hey!
And then...
Oh!
Kempe!
Hey!
Hey!
Oh!
What else did you want to say about the game, Jess?
I don't think we should write off the Kings.
We've seen hot goalies steal series before,
and they're proven that they can get enough offense
through this Edmonton defense.
So this might be a lot closer than we think.
It might be a six or seven game series here
between the Kings and Oilers.

Now, I want to talk a little bit about,
Steve mentioned this earlier,
your Stanley Cup picks looking a little rough.
Vegas up 2-0 over Dallas.
how do we feel what steve you got the floor three one game dude uh the stars are a really really
really strong team and even if they get knocked out in the series they'll still be an extremely
strong team i uh this will be a fascinating off season for the dallas stars if they get eliminated
because you when you get knocked out in the first round i think you need to look at it and go what
did we do wrong and uh so far it's you played a team four million over the cap is now hold on
is jake oh sorry no no what i was gonna say is i didn't expect vegas even though like yeah they're
juiced to the gills like they're they're so loaded up but you have guys coming off an injury
uh guys who haven't played in a while uh guys who were guaranteed to be rusty and even the guys who
let's say they were just resting they've never played together man hurdles never played with
these guys they've never played together as a cohesive unit like that's gonna have some rust
that's not gonna look very good and they take two out of two in Dallas get out of my face
I can't believe that I want to throw out there that the Vegas Golden Knights had 26 shots
is Jake Ottinger the answer for Dallas long term
i wonder if he's battling something because he looked unbeatable for a while
jess what do you think i think there isn't a lot you can take away from this series if you're the
dallas stars because they played well last night and they ran up up against the best defensively
coached team in the national hockey league just looking at some of the numbers that uh were in
the game from the game last night they they had 11 shots in the first period 10 the rest of the
way in the last five minutes while the golden knights were up by one goal they did not allow
a single shot on goal good that's that's crazy score effects of hockey are supposed to work in
the opposite direction when you are down the other team has more chances and with the vegas golden
knights they were down one goal it's not even like they were up by or they were up sorry one
goal it's not like they were up by a million and they didn't allow dallas to get a shot on goal
for the last five minutes of the game that is just an impenetrable defense that you just can't get
through and with if you're dallas you're happy with your game and you just can't get through
them because they're just a little bit better and it's not like logan thompson's been unbelievable
he was very solid last night obviously he only allowed one bloody goal but game one like he was
very beatable swiss cheese oh man man man man so you get a game where their goalie looks incredibly
human and you still with home ice advantage and everything you head into vegas with a two nothing
deficit you may not you may not play in your building again this year oh and you look you go
back to last season when they beat them in the western conference finals and you say this team
kind of just knows how to play us they got our number right now and it's really it's gonna be
hard and like i guess we need to get a little better for next year and just hope we don't run
into vegas again who are the teams down to nothing in their series washington and dallas washington
who we all assumed were gonna get their asses kicked um the islanders who most smart people
assume we're going to get their asses kicked i am not smart people the dallas stars were down
yeah dallas stars and i forgot uh the lightning uh were in there the point i was going to try
to make is well there's a bunch of teams that we didn't really expect to win their first round
and the stars but i guess stars lightning yeah they're yeah pretty good um i uh my favorite
stat in this game is that there were 108 hits thrown 55 and 53 and one penalty each
because there was only one infraction committed that's right it was yeah that might be the
cleanest game of all time yeah nothing else could have been a penalty how is that even possible
jamie ben's out there just being clean yeah because exactly jesse thank you marcia so
didn't do anything no no uh petro didn't take any liberties no it's amazing
yeah oh i haven't heard it through the first two games and last night was the first night
I was like, well, I like there were calls that they objectively missed on the Leafs and the calls that they called on the Leafs where I was like, oh, my God, like that John Tavares call at the end.
I'm like that that that ref just got embarrassed and he's going to look at the tape afterwards.
Hey, which ref which ref?
Hey, do you mind while I light everything on fire?
My my mentions, the comments and all of it.
uh there were two refs last night graham skilleter who um sheldon keith was fined for saying what i
believe was fuck you graham during the canada bubble but there's another ref from that game
named francis chiron dating back to last year any relation no relation to cam chiron okay um last
year he was
the Leafs
were 1-3-1
with this guy in their games
and two years ago they were 0-2
with him in their games
and then they lost last
game with some weird ones
and I just think it's funny how
that's all that's all I just think it's
funny maybe the Leafs should stop sucking
they should stop sucking and losing
all but one game to this guy over
a strange period of time what's the next
series uh what do you mean
to the leafs no um the next year i want to say i've been really enjoying doing the uh canucks
games although series wise not the most exciting when you have the abs and jets happening right
next door that's fun hockey baby another never gonna be a sweep another seven goals but man
what did what did you just say that was never gonna be a sweep either like i heard different
i heard very different that's i took the abs in that series i think jesse is no jesse's looking
for jesse supremacy what is what did you say i think i said abs didn't i oh i think you did yeah
yeah yeah i said abs you hate the national predators i suggest no i i yeah i also i mean
i'm doing this i said national yeah you hate the uh i hate the jets yeah yeah i'm just the biggest
connor hellebuck fan outside of winnipeg um but but honestly colorado played like a stanley cup
winning team is there a problem with connor hellebuck uh it has been surprisingly uh easy
to score on him his first problem is he doesn't play for the leafs i would say that that's the
first issue okay um too true too true second though yeah no i mean he's a lot a lot a lot
of goals yeah i mean laurent brossois would be a real easy transition there like what no he's good
you mean like like if they if hellebuck was hurt i don't think they would have any reservation with
turning to laurent brossois right right but my assumption is it's just the colorado friggin
avalanche yeah basically score at will um so i don't know if i would put this at the feet of
hellebuck okay if i did it might go through him whoa i look at a situation where you go into the
game and you say the whole reason colorado can't win this series at all is because uh georgiev's
garbage and then in the game georgiev's perfectly fine yeah hellebuck for two straight games has
struggled but you can chalk it up to maybe the abs are really good and there's a lot of good
chances that they get so it's not all on him but i don't know i've got a couple more saves
abs took one from you in your building you got to take at least one from theirs yeah i uh i want to
talk vancouver uh nashville for a second no because uh there's conversations about first off this is
a great uh this is from amazing kook who is one of the guys that's coming in and hanging out on
the streams with me uh game two nashville and vancouver is the first time since november the
10th of 2019 that both teams have
what
and it's not Nashville and Vancouver just
two teams doing what one thing
having Michael Bublé in the building
that's a good one no
game two
Nashville versus Vancouver is the first time since
November 10th 2019 that both teams had
less than 20 shots
wow it was Vegas
Detroit with Detroit winning the game
3-2 in 2019 and he
said this is a dying breed of game and I said it
in the first game and I say again
nashville is making vancouver play their game vancouver won and by the way everybody's being
super hard on peterson and yes there were bad giveaways and stuff he also missed he whiffed
on a couple shots he could have had two three goals in that game so it's the dichotomy of
elias peterson right now your job is to finish yes yes you saw that one timer though that went
like just a little wide and hit the net right yeah yeah that was that was awful your job's to
hit the net he's got to hit the net he's got to hit the net i i i feel like it was also on for
all three goals like it wasn't pretty that's not great I listen I'm looking at the Vancouver
Canucks and I'm like this team is too talented to not beat the Predators but the Predators might
just put them in a sleeper hold and you see you see Soros is you see Soros man he's on
it's you listen if you're a Leaf fan and you haven't watched any other playoffs
watch the Predators play it's boring uh but you know and then compare and contrast with Sammy
uh the other thing i was also say is compare and contrast with the leafs defense the predators
blocked 37 shots i 37 shots i fully expected to look at this stat and and and see that the
predators were leading the playoffs they're only fifth in block shots the bruins are second but
they've played three games the islanders who have played two have more lost both edmonton
has blocked more uh the jets have blocked more um the preds have simply blocked way more than
vancouver who are dead last they have 19 blocks to the preds 44 i thought it was fascinating that
we saw two teams play a very similar style of game once they got up and one was the islanders
when they got up against carolina and completely failed but the national predators they went into
a complete shell they had everybody just clogged the middle of the zone they didn't care who wandered
around the edges you can have all that space we're gonna have five guys sit in the middle
and we're gonna block shots for a period and a half and to their credit they did it successfully
for one game for one game they did it who knows if you can keep that up for three more wins but
they did it and they just shut down entirely playing offense and they they got into their
shell and it works and with petterson um maddie if you want to pull this up just uh it's not i
don't want to pile on but i there was a couple plays where i'm like petterson's a little off
tonight um this play this he has to score here so he's got the puck there petterson has the puck at
the at the faceoff dot he it's on a stick it's passed by miller across the ice and uc soros is
not in position the cage is what is wide open steve what happens on this play uh he fires it
into the back of the net for an easy goal no high and wide he tries to pass the puck no that's so
much less forgivable than shooting it so shooting it and missing like whatever goes down and he
passes the puck oh he tries to find garland yeah he tries to what are you doing why and it just it
just goes to the corner it's like the shortest starting goalie in the nhl what are you doing
i don't think he trusts himself right now yeah i think i think he's a little but like i trust
that pedersen's gonna get his head back into the game but he didn't have a good game too i don't
think and that's such a nice feed from miller too oh yeah look at him find him oh and there's like
not a huge lane there oh i'm really good vision this and he blows it that's somebody who's like
not confident yeah yeah i was listen i you know you miss high and wide ah shit damn but you're
pass it dude that's brutal brutal there's a guy on his belly like an alligator ready to cover
cut that off oh that's brutal yeah it's a uh it's a shame uh because i think the canucks
i i think they did their fans a bit of a disservice in that game like there was too
many opportunities for them to bury that they just didn't bury and credit to the preds for
just taking away they the preds are taking away every passing lane as you just saw there
they this is what the Canucks do well they move the puck to each other the Preds are taking that
away um and uh I want to talk about that Islanders Carolina game the I I'm sure you guys have seen
the barstool video where they're all in the bar in in New York have you seen that where everybody's
all jacked the guy's got his dad there they go up three three nothing and then you see the score
creep back up and their reactions to it it's one of the most hilarious but also heartbreaking
videos i've ever seen oh well it's just a team realizing oh we're boned one shot in the third
period we did islanders oh did we do islanders last okay we had a we had i can never remember
oh yeah it's all good i just the one we didn't hit was uh tampa um florida and rangers are we
getting a change in the rangers changing the guard in florida part of her hagi is the best
clutch player in the history of hockey i mean it keeps coming off his stick right it just keeps
coming off his stick uh the one that got away for several teams including tampa yes everyone keeps
going formerly formerly he's a former lightning the team that they're playing against in the
playoffs and he at least played nhl games for him did they not just like let him go on like
waiver i'm pretty sure uh i don't think it was waivers i think they let him walk but like he
was a known quantity to them he wasn't this i think he had like 11 goals or something like that
he couldn't get into a really good lineup um but like tampa knew what they had in him far more than
the islanders did he was an islander and far more than the leafs did he was a leaf yeah ah all time
overtime goals in the nhl he is now he has five in the playoffs yeah nhl overtime goals i just
want to pull up the list joe sackick leads uh leads it with eight i believe but i want to make
wow overtime most career ah the playoff stats are different used to be wasn't steve thomas up there
too for a while he's up there i want to say regular season he does have at least one playoff
overtime winner for the least thomas oh that was bob uh great one great one um over time there we
sorry i'm just trying to sort the stats here uh overtime winners ah no i did it wrong most
overtime games played i don't want games played i want goals who cares uh most overtime goals
playoff year oh man that's pain no that's in a single playoff that's in a single play
career where's uh playoff most overtime games played most overtime there we go
yeah i was right okay joe sakic leads it with wow maurice richard is second with six carter
verhage is now tied for third with five with glenn anderson and patrick kane and cory perry
but if you look at overtime games played carter verhage has played 14 wow sakic who leads with
eight has played 44 maurice richard played 29 and in anderson and kane who he's tied with have both
played 40 or more in half in sometimes more than less than half we're sorry anderson 38
kane 40 perry 48 right so in in the case of richard it's it's almost half uh it's less than
half with with joe sack it's 44 to 14 and he's nearly right there wow the dude he knows how to
score in overtime i don't know how much some of that's got to be luck he's also got an overtime
assist some of it's got to be i know how to do this in overtime and by the way for anybody saying
that uh the leafs traded carter for heggie dude they traded him like six years before he played
an nhl game yeah tampa moved on from carter for heggie for nada he never played a pro game sorry
yeah i was pulling up the ovechkins that okay he never played a pro game for the um um toronto
maple as i try to stifle you on i'm sorry guys that's okay uh never played a pro game for the
organization he did for the aisles he did for the lightning he played nhl games for the lightning
he was a known quantity and they're like ah go to our biggest rival if you look at the stat again
for his overtime goals it lists the teams he has played for toronto is not on that list because he
has not played for toronto so like stop stop trying to dunk on us we get it you don't like
there's plenty of other shit to dunk on us for we give you plenty of ammo just say we choke all the
time you'll be right so i told you cody cc if he scores loses the game for the edmonton or by not
scoring he loses the game yeah okay and it's not cody's fault but that is a pivotal moment
uh another pivotal moment and i believe i sent it through to jesse and this is what i was pulling
up which is why i tuned you out i apologize is alexander ovechkin oh man did you see this play
where he gave up the puck?
So in this play,
what you're about to see
is the Washington Capitals
are down 3-2.
It's 3-15 left
in the second period of Game 2.
This play,
Ovechkin is past the puck
and then just scroll forward
a little bit here.
Jesse, what can we do?
What do we see happens?
He is holding it.
He is holding it.
He is holding it.
Ranger player steals it.
Steals it.
Here we go.
Oh no, it's a 2-on-1.
Zbigniew Jad is the Ranger,
by the way,
and passes it back k andre miller finishes it's uh four two and the washington capitals did score
another goal it was a four three finish but that goal right there by the best player on the team
uh sorry by that turnover right there by the best player on the washington capitals
is something that just can't happen and no it's irresponsible and you could tell like he
and like he's not contributing offensively either so like at that point you're a net negative
and it's just no bueno the the one thing i'll say uh for capitals fans i don't know how our
temi panarin didn't even get a penalty or for that hit on oshi well jesse what do you think
oh it should have been at least a penalty i mean like at least a minor yeah like he hit him in the
head yeah there are i think officiating has been very poor in the first uh we're not even a weekend
to the playoffs.
The playoffs started
last Saturday
and there's been
too many egregious non-calls.
Jesse, what is doing
a good job for anybody?
For NHL referees?
Or what do you mean?
For anybody.
What is doing a good job?
You show up to your work.
Yeah.
What is asked of you,
you accomplish.
Yeah.
So I think refs
do a great job.
Hmm.
Refs do a great job.
Because this is
what they're asked to do.
They sell violence.
They sell hate.
They sell rivalries.
Literally quoting Colin Campbell
from an email that was released in a court
document. You're not
wrong. He still works for the league, eh?
Still works for the league. I'm going to bring this up
every single time. I'm not going to leave you alone.
I want you to get mad.
I can't believe that this
friggin' guy still works for the
league, and you wonder why these guys try to
friggin' kill each other every year.
It's mandated by the league.
You're not wrong, because a lot of the time
when you see the inside works in the NHL,
their job is not to call the rulebook.
Their job is to be game managers.
and create these scenarios in the games where the NHL is happy with the outcome of the game
and is not to just call rules by the definition.
So if they are doing their jobs, they are doing it very well.
Say whatever you want about, oh, principal point of contact, this and that.
It's Artemi Panarin.
If Matt Rempe lays that hit, he's still in jail.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
He would still be in jail.
The rules apply to certain people and not to other people.
Yeah, no.
it's uh i mean you're in madison square garden you're taking 120 point player out of a out of a
key uh moment in a playoff game yeah that's why you didn't make the call what's the difference
between brad marshand licking somebody and michael bunting licking somebody uh michael bunting would
be under prison what about nasim qadri would be playing in the khl like enjoy again learn to
get ready to learn russianese yeah you got there i got there i'm tired
all right that's it um uh by the way the the whole utah thing we didn't get to it but it
looked amazing yesterday that's going to be a fun hockey market gary betman just fumbled his way
into one of the biggest victories of his career it's crazy i uh there was a comment that we got
in the chat for the stream last night the leafs bruin stream uh and it was someone at the event
in utah nice um like with all the players and everyone going nuts and liam o'brien saying what
do you say like i'm squid man or whatever i can't remember what they what he said his nickname was
but everyone was just having a really good time and uh utah welcome to the mad oh it's gonna be
fun arizona so sorry but utah hello welcome that's all wonderful yesterday was all about utah i'm
assuming no press conference we're an hour 50 yeah all right let's wrap this steven home
told me his short one all right yeah i don't lie to you it's all right it's a lot of
you got to get your best out of your players
requires a little bit of a manipulation of the truth that was that was your mike keenan alexi
kovalev shift hey um we new cj show today uh tim and i interviewed gunther steiner
formula one and uh sdp this weekend saturday and sunday let's go
