The Steve Dangle Podcast
With your hosts
Steve Dangle, Adam Wilde, and Jesse Blake
Let's go
Hey, so Greta
Arcade Bar tomorrow
Greta Bar YYZ on Instagram
We are joining
We're going to do that hockey thing
The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens
Play tomorrow night
So, you know, that'll be on at the bar
There's games on tonight too, but who cares
Yeah, there are. We have real live NHL games
yeah who gives a good gosh darn about anyone else exactly exactly and also you'll be able to buy
steve's book for the first time hooray early and if you've never seen uh if you've never seen an
lfr live now you'll get to see one i'm so i'm scared i love that it's set up for your first
one of the year it's great oh i'm so scared uh easter seals pages are up uh because that
tournament is quickly approaching about a month away which is exciting um you need to raise at
least 50 grand hey is that the goal uh yeah i just made it up okay all right well i want 75 but at
least 50 and if anyone makes a donation of any amount to anybody on rachel's raiders you are
automatically entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to the leafs oilers game on october
nope lie november 16th really saturday nice well that's good i like that that's good you more than
like that i love that make me believe you like that i love it so much i don't love it so much
work on it um so i guess to start the show we should start with the amazon documentary series
which does feature steve and and i think it it features steve in the way that most people
if they've ever seen steve would know steve okay so this is this is um wait there you go there it
now what was with the hammer in this because i forgot about this so here's what i think that's
about um i was just losing my mind about a game i don't remember which one but it was during the
playoffs and uh there happened to be a hammer on the little rolly carts that i have next to me
yep and so i don't know sometimes the things that are featured in my video is just whatever's within
arm's reach while i'm shooting it right and so i picked up a hammer it's a sturdy hammer a husky
It's a quality brand.
I have to say, I get why you were so frustrated during those videos
because watching that show back, and we've mentioned this before,
every Ilya Samsonov goal allowed is paint.
It's a slobber knocker.
They got to fight for every inch of ice.
There's so little between these two teams.
50% of the Bruin shots go in.
It's bad.
It was terrible.
It was terrible.
And then the other thing that popped up in a little bit of hockey pop culture,
Jesse.
Yeah.
Listen, you have this interesting sordid history with the city of Philadelphia
because you were on the radio or you were mentioned on a radio show there.
Oh, yeah.
I was on Cousin Tunis.
Cousin Tunis.
They played me going off on – I forget what I was doing.
Yeah.
I don't remember either.
Was it Embiid?
No, they read my tweets about the Philadelphia 76ers.
Right.
That was it.
because i was i was upset at how everything unfolded there in the playoffs right well
because mb can shut up yeah and then i and then i called them out and then somebody called in
and knew who you were what was his name connor or something conrad i'm gonna i'm just gonna play it
and it was hilarious cameron cameron yeah it was cameron and this guy cameron calls and we still
have never been able to identify him and he's like that guy from the steve dangle podcast i just i
know him i was able to remember cameron because i have jesse's reaction burned into my brain
okay give me cameron cameron what the fuck and and there's more to this philly story but i want
jesse playing this will be great because if he has it it's spectacular um and we'll just tap
dance until he has it but steve here we go oh here we go all right it's probably gonna
loop maple leaf podcast go talk about austin matthews and shut the bleep up
Cameron, Cameron, what the
Cameron, do you want to know who Jesse
Blake is? He's the CEO of the
Steve Dangle Podcast Network. It's a
Toronto Maple Leafs podcast.
Go talk about Austin Matthews and shut the bleep
up.
Cameron,
Cameron, what the
The full story is I
tweeted about the 76ers in the playoffs. I was upset
at, I think it was a timeout at the end of the game
or the foul call at the end of the game forget what actually happened they read my my tweet on
the air uh the anthony gargano show who have cousin tunis in the morning the anthony gargano
show read the tweet uh they reacted to it they came back and said some stuff and then cameron
calls in and he says i know jesse blake is from steve dangle podcast and then anthony gargano
says that and we have the reaction on the show and the rest is history so yeah that's my that's
my history with philly sports radio yeah 97.5 the fanatic i love it yeah with shoot coming
yo talk about austin matthews you shut the bleep up and now the difference between us and them is
we can actually swear on our airwaves because they're not they're not amfm so fun uh so jesse
your sordid history with the city of philadelphia continued yes and this is this is where i love
this this has happened to us a few times it happened to steve it happened to me positively
and negative where did it happen to you there was a palace uh minnesota yeah or was it i was
minnesota which i think is wild oh vegas vegas uh right they i think it was before game one of the
stanley cup final they had me talking about uh oh man like they're an expansion team like i was
i was part of the uh the these guys are compilation of doubters yes right here they are game one of
the stanley final they lost i think the penguins also tweeted at you once positively you were like
blink twice if you if you yeah they set the eyeball yeah which is right links or something
like that yeah it's funny very funny okay so jesse what do we have here why are you in this
philadelphia flyers video jesse so they on the philadelphia flyers uh socials they released a
video about uh matvey mitch mitchkov uh his arrival in north america and just a hype video
around him and in it i shortly say mr mitchkov is coming to north america i can play that one
part i can't play most of the video because uh it's i believe it also exists on their youtube
channel we don't want to get uh demonetized for anything like that but here's the part that i'm in
soil after a flight across the globe mr mitchkov arrived in north america
they used that portion of me because i remember i brought up the news on the show when it happened
right and then so they used that part of me saying that on the show to narrate their video
how do we which was very nice of them how do we submit that for an emmy oh my god yeah i mean
if they're using your narration jesse it must be it must be important oh yeah so no it's award
winning first time they beat the leafs of the season let's copyright strike them
hey yeah we can play that because it's ours but it's theirs but it's ours yeah right how dare you
no i don't yeah we don't know i don't know i think i've entered a new phase of my career where
i'm gonna move on to narrate some of the greatest things in our lives you know i like every
commercial every nature documentary is just gonna be my voice talking about hey look at that tiger
right i don't know if you got the voice for it nah i'm gonna do it here these tiger these
gorillas are doing a bunch of stuff guys what the fuck tiger what the fuck oh my god they're
humping see i could do it can you do me a uh here um i i'm interested in tuning into this program
can you describe for me an alligator an alligator okay so the alligator is just he's laying in the
water he's having a lot of fun i hope he turns on his back so that we could rub his tummy
oh yeah yeah yeah for sure that's great yeah jesse attenborough yeah i think i think i have
a new career now what you nailed it jesse there's something else i need you to play in your email
yes uh you're gonna have to give me some time i will give you some time is it just tell me
these things before the show i know i'm sorry i'm sorry but oh you know what why don't we why
don't we move on to the the first piece of news that we really need to hit today your lfr mug
Igor Shcherkin has already rejected an $11 million per year contract, according to Kevin Weeks.
So the Rangers offered him $88 million over eight years.
That's $11 million a season.
And that's a lot of money.
We know that he wants to reset the goalie market.
That would make him the highest paid goalie ever.
Yes, it would.
At $11 million.
Yep.
And he's saying, no, more.
I want more.
I want more.
and I think he's I'm wondering about this because you know Alan talked about it a little bit in our
last podcast and he said you know the goaltender market uh has been artificially reduced because
even pre-cap because Marty Brodeur was like yeah I'll just make five six million and uh goalies
would be like yeah I'd like to make more they're like and teams would be like well you're not
making more than Brodeur you want more than Brodeur you're out of your mind yeah so and then
obviously the salary cap came in and it was what 40 million dollars or whatever it was I wonder if
there's a day of many years in the future where we look at the goalie position like you look at
the quarterback position the nfl or like the starting pitcher position in baseball where
that guy makes the most money because he's the most important person and if you have a great
goaltender it changes your entire team and he's on the ice for the whole game that's right yes
he's the only position that plays the entire game in more minutes than anybody else in the majority
of the game so i don't know maybe we should rethink how we pay goaltenders uh i think we
should because what does jeff miracle always say if you have a good goalie it's 70 of the game if
you have a bad goalie it's 100 isn't he also doesn't he also say hockey should just be called
goalie yes yeah and it's and it is it is kind of odd you know sometimes we all get into a way of
thinking and and it becomes tunnel vision and you go and one person goes you know and then it takes
like five six years for everybody to come around first they say that person's crazy and then after
five years, you're like, oh, man, they might have had a point. And so any team with Igor Shcherkin
making whatever he's going to make, and I'm assuming it's probably going to be in the
neighborhood of $11 to $12 million, considering that 11 was rejected. So it's going to be above
11. When you look at that, when you look at that number, for what this guy brings, perennial
Vesna guy, you know, I can understand, you know, in the Leafs situation, you got two guys that are
unproven you're not gonna pay a lot of money for that perennial vesna for the last half decade
swayman just got eight and a quarter and he hasn't been a starter for a full season yet yeah so i
mean jesper wallstat got 2.2 million dollars yesterday you know how many nhl games he's
played how many three uh uh jeremy swayman has started 125 games total uh i'm just looking up
igor stats just for that just for that and igor has started uh 208 but i'll tell you this uh the
numbers are sparkling they're crazy and the last three years he's up over 50 games each year two
appearances in the conference final yeah dude i think the one thing that happened in the the most
recent memory is sergey borovsky who the the stat everybody loves to yell at leafs fans when somebody
hosts the stanley cup is that 67 nobody ever game seven nobody ever with it was three one
nobody was four one let him nobody ever with a double digit player on the roster has ever
hosted stanley cup then it happened with jack eichel yep in in vegas when they did it and then
this past season we saw the first team ever with a double digit goaltender host the stanley cup and
you think about how important brodsky was to that entire playoff run and how it didn't matter that
over the last few years he's lost his job and then got it back and then lost it and then got
it back a few different times when push came to shove during the playoffs it was the most
important thing to have Bobrovsky and they still managed to build a team around him it wasn't like
he hamstrung their salary cap and they couldn't do anything else they still built a Stanley Cup
winning team so also I mean Kucherov and Vasilevsky winning back-to-back cups 9.5
yeah but just if we're if we're if you're cutting if you're putting a bar on the actual double digit
you gotta cut it off somewhere yes i agree you just keep scaling back the number then you just
get to any number so that's why you know what you know what but how many career games a great
example as well how well to jesse's point about not rounding up uh how many career games does
mike medano have 1499 not 1500 right and i think and to that point that's less he adds to the
argument thank you agreed and i think i think you know obviously the rangers are about to go through
a mega shift and and this is kind of a what i love about this is this is a confluence of events
that work so much in igor's favor you're talking about ufa you're talking about crazy numbers
you're talking about double conference final appearances in the last uh three years but also
you're talking about and jesse mentioned this in the season preview this is a last dance sort of
team after this year you're gonna have a lot of change in new york they're gonna be fine they're
going forward but they do have to change and the one thing that can be the sure thing that you can
absolutely build around you've got you know you've got some great young rfas and i get that
nobody is on igor's level and if you have if you could solidify that position everything else can
kind of fall into place afterwards he has a lot of leverage here i mean jesse you have them winning
the metro no i have new jersey winning the metro but like first or second first or second yeah
They're coming off a President's Trophy win.
They went to the conference final.
We could easily see them at least back there.
I picked them to win the Stanley Cup.
Like, put it this way.
His number's not going down.
Like, you offered me $88 million in October?
Oh, all right.
Okay, we'll be back.
We'll let you know what we think.
The follow-up to Kevin Weeks' report that he turned down the eight years by $11 million
was from cam robinson who said that igor wanted less years and that might have been the sticking
point on the contract not the 11 million dollars and that he wanted more it might be that he wants
11 by 5 because he's smart rangers want him for the eight years he wants 11 by 5 if he wants
11 by 5 you sign that before he realizes how dumb that is well because goaltending is is a it's a
tricky position he's gonna be how old is igor shisterkin he is right now 28 yeah there you go
i think you sign an eight-year deal if you're 28 if you're 25 and you're swayman it's funny that
that shisterkin wants the shorter deal swayman wanted the longer one if i were them and i was
looking at it just for me and not being an athlete or whatever never being in that position i would
switch it around i think if i'm swayman you sign five and take your chances as the rangers well i
I think absolutely you do.
With Shusterkin, though, I look at that and I go,
why do you not want the eight years?
It's likely because he knows that over the next five years,
the cap is probably going to go up about $20 million,
and he could be leaving $10 or $15 million on the table.
However, if for whatever reason, injury, anything else can happen,
especially into your early 30s, slowdown in performance,
it may not even end up mattering.
And I can understand why New York wants the full eight years,
because they want some cost certainty there as well.
You have, I mean, it's cost certainty, it's expensive,
but at the end of the day,
I think it benefits both sides to go eight years here.
Whereas Swayman, I would have been like,
ah, do three or four.
Goalies?
Here's the tweet from Cam Robinson,
just so we get it out there.
Piggybacking on Kevin Weeks' post on Shusterkin,
I was told recently that Igor may be more keen
on a shorter-term deal.
Five years, question mark.
If New York wants eight years,
they have to seriously break the bank.
oh man oh man because that's going to be like let's say the number's 13 right so he's got to
for the eight years oh my god well if it's 11 for five yeah right like so let's arbitrarily throw
13 out uh boy it's gonna be 36 or whatever i think yeah 36 yep making 13 mil there's there's
ways to get around that oh well he's you're a groin injury or a knee injury away like look
then it doesn't cost you anything yeah yeah it's the rangers money carrie price is just sitting
around no but there are players who find themselves in the not injured enough category where they're
just sort of bad right they're playing they're just not what they i think that's that's eight
years from now's problem like what if we get a stanley cup what if we get one in that window
So, yeah, I don't care.
I mean, listen, you lock this guy up, you 100% lock him up.
But I think if he wants five, you give him five.
You don't worry about the eight.
And if you look at it, too, you don't worry about that.
You're absolutely right.
And if it costs a disgusting amount to go to eight years, then just don't do it.
But I would say he's doing the Rangers a favor by going five years.
I really do.
I think so.
And their window is going to be at least five years.
And I, well, I don't know.
I don't I actually don't know what next summer looks like for New York does that mean it doesn't
mean they're not going to be good I don't I have to look at their like prospect pipeline which I
don't have in front of me and that sort of thing but I would say that there are some potential big
veteran pieces moving on here and you know when when you look at oh my god you're stirking it
11 million dollars that would be crazy listen he's going to be the only guy making that and
what's going to be easy for the Rangers is filling out the rest of the roster you know problem with
toronto right to bring it back to us because it always does is now we've got four guys making
over 11 it's too much and so that becomes that's where you find some some roster issues and you
have to sign you know tana to a much longer term than you perhaps wanted to be to keep the aav down
you lose out on a guy like matt roy who you know careful matt roy who if you'd been able to kick
in another quarter million you probably would have had we're getting into how does this affect
the least territory well but i'm i'm giving the best comparable that i can which is teams with
over 11 million dollars on the book the only like the only other teams that have that are like it's
like colorado and wait with what who's got who's got more than 11 million dollars and wrapped up
in a player oh in one player yeah colorado edmonton has two yeah or no they don't have
they don't because leon has two yeah um it's not a very long it's not huge right no and so i don't
know i look at this and go okay if you're the rangers just take the five years get it signed
happy dance go into the school and you're the rangers and you he's also still making five
million this year yeah or 5.5 stupid that's a crazy deal but like you're the rangers you're
always gonna you don't have to worry as much as some other teams in this league about attracting
free agents and you're definitely not going to have to worry about the cap space to do it yeah
like Panarin is going to age out of his deal and that frees up 11.6 million um which I think he's
been pretty good on that contract yeah his playoffs have been come see come saw but you know
there's they're gonna have to turn over the core if they're lucky they'll be able to do something
like what Dallas has done where they had uh they had Pavelski for a while he obviously just retired
sagan ben those those were their big money core guys and now they've been replaced by
hints and robertson and and you're expecting the next generation there's another way why they have
like three generations well as athletes go uh of guys and they're all still there yeah like it's
not like they've left except for pavelski you know so i i think that's what the rangers if
everything goes well uh could expect yeah i think you're gonna see a jake truba trade this out i i
think there's another one yeah um wherever this the fact that this is out there tells me that
they're talking a lot i think it gets done i think it's done and i think it needs to get done before
trade deadline because if you're the rangers you need to know i think you need to know how how for
it are we going to be and how much is next you're going to cost and if we are acquiring somebody
what's it going to cost to keep them what's the acquisition cost right i wouldn't be overly shocked
if we wake up tomorrow morning and there's a deal well but actually you know what precedent with
swayman oh this is going to go to december 1st oh which means it's happening in two days to be
honest i think it'll happen as soon as jesse drops the show this afternoon no that's way too quick
that's way too quick yeah it's just the way it goes hi welcome to greta we have breaking news
you guys want the most fun stat out all of this since we're talking about rangers goaltending
i know you love this since 2005 the 2005 2006 season either igor shisterkin or henrik
lundqvist has started at least 30 games for the new york i hate it go away you know isn't that
crazy that you okay what was since when 2005 2006 i shouldn't say started played either at least 30
games for the new york rangers so every season since ovechkin and crosby joined the nhl the
rangers have had perennial top five goalie of their generation in their lineup in their lineup
for at least 30 games how they ever missed the playoffs in that time is shocking they did have
some shocking remember the letter oh I remember the letter letter was a big deal on this show
when it came out about how they're going to rebuild and they did it super quick they've
been on a bunch of runs like they they haven't gotten it done but they've been on a bunch of
runs it's not for lack of trying uh the so so I think with that I mean it's it's the Igor
Shostakovich one it would be fun if it was contentious like Swayman although we don't
hate the Rangers the way that we have the hate on for the Bruins and it's not like we don't have
like I hate on for Bruins fans.
You guys know that.
But it's like, you know,
the Rangers have not yet done as dirty
the way that the Bruins have.
I'll give them time.
Give them time.
They will.

this episode is sponsored by better help we've talked about therapy a lot on the show and how
it helps us uh and you know the thing about it is i think anybody that's never tried it before
thinks you got to go every week it's like oh i gotta probably go every week you could you could
good you can if you're going through really going through it and you need help now you can do it
twice a week but sometimes about three times that might be extreme you might need a breather in
between you could you could potentially do that you could do that i would say that when you get
to a maintenance stage like i'm doing it once every couple months right now because i'm okay
but it is still good to do a check-in and whatever it is wherever you are in your life there are
times where i used to go once a week and listen man i'm a i'm a divorcee there's some bad stuff
that happened it's sad you know it makes you sad talk about them all in depth uh all of it well i
did in therapy and why and that and this is what i i think when we talk about better help this is
why it's so great it's flexible it's on your time frame and you get to decide okay do i need to be
going back to this every week because sometimes you start something you got to do it every week
but then other times you're like you know what i think i'm okay i'm feeling okay we'll do a check
in in a month and it's any way that you want it done it's text it's uh um like like as in like
msn messenger like imagine that you're in grade seven again uh it's facetiming it's phone calls
it's whatever you want to do on your schedule and we want you to get 10 off your first month so try
it visit betterhelp.com slash sdp that's better help help.com slash sdp um the other guy i want
to talk about with big contract dreams who you know is going to get paid like crazy is caril
kaprizov and he is up at the end of the year and elliot friedman on his show yesterday said
they're going to have to show him they're worth staying with this comes on the heels of the report
uh this summer which was changed mark lazarus did switch this but there was sort of a a thing
out there about him potentially being interested in going in chicago going to chicago to play with
bernard and i don't think those like i know mark corrected the story or corrected the quote or
whatever but i have to tell you i don't think these two things happen for nothing there are
some players in this league who are in the best conversation and then there's players who are in
the most valuable conversation i think they're a little different caprizov's in the most valuable
conversation for minnesota without him they're dead the whole team is well the plan's toast
really without him don't show up to practice like he's and i'm not trying to insult that team they
have some really good parts i actually considering how much we raised our eyebrows at their plans to
buy out suitor and parise i think things are going actually pretty decently well hey one of the years
they made the playoffs and last year they barely missed it they have a good future in net barely
is a relative term they have a good future net they have some really good like young individuals
but like he's carried them over since debuting basically yeah um in the nhl he's carried them
well if you look at deserves it his next closest so he had 96 points the next closest was matt
boldy was 69 so it's a huge there's a big drop off now boldy is you know for all intents and
purposes of the future along with a guy like Brock Faber but you know I think this lives and
dies with Kirill staying and you know you wonder how much how many points those guys get without
Kirill there right none yeah that's the thing he so he led them two seasons ago as well Adam oh of
course he did he's led them for like four years hasn't he 75 points the next closest was Matt
Zuccarello was 67 here's the difference he only played 67 games right right holy shit dude he's
a really good player and he had 40 goals in those 67 games he's disgusting and they are a second
away like one season just one more year of this cap hell that they're in and and then they're
gonna have they're gonna be a big spender next offseason you can imagine obviously Kirill if
he's going to sign an extension there uh we're probably looking at i mean he's got two more
years left but let's be honest they're going to start trying to get that ready to go for july 1st
and don't not that the players and agents and and management ever talk before the allotted time
but it seems like all these contracts are suspiciously signed on july 1st it's so weird
um you know he's got next year this year at nine next year at nine this is a probably a 12 or 13
million dollar player i was gonna say um so nathan mckinnon's 12-6 does he get more or less than that
more uh i think he gets at least that because he can say to them oh it doesn't matter that
even if they make the argument well nathan mckinnon's an all-world center and this and
that whatever and that's all true he can say yeah but who else you got you've given me you've he has
a way better supporting cast which is true he's got kel mccarr he's got miko ranton like
Like, Matt Zuccarello, bless him, is 37.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
And he was second on the team in scoring two years ago.
Like, Boldy is good.
Boldy's really good.
Faber's really good.
Rossi's really good.
Wolstat, you know, next year having a full-time battery of Gustafsson-Wolstat,
I assume.
That's going to be really good for them.
They have some good pieces.
Like, I feel like we talk about so many teams.
They've drafted well.
They've drafted well.
But is it enough?
well like like with buffalo yeah like let's look at our buffalo conversation i'm not comparing the
two teams but i go okay they got a goalie who is really good and a goalie who looks like he's going
to be elite they have three top four picked defensemen they have this guy they have that guy
and they're not close like they're doing the right doing some of the right things is not enough
there's got to be more than that so they they need to turn over their defense if you just take
a quick look at puckpedia you've got Spurgeon 34 Broding 31 Middleton uh 28 Bogosian 34 Merrill 32
Declan Chisholm is uh 24 and then Brock Faber is 22 so you're gonna have but you've got Zee
who they just drafted yep who apparently is is going to be fantastic obviously he's going to go
back for more seasoning uh you know you've got uh this jesper wolstat kid goal who will replace
mark andre flurry with mark andre three games yeah well exactly right there's the new generation
of like it's going to be dustin wolf devin levi jesper wolstat yaroslav askerov like crazy good
young goalies and uh uh nobody really talks about him but uh danilla you're off oh yeah yeah yeah
uh should be a pretty good winger it's to me i think when when um karel kaprizov
or his agent feeds that to elliot and elliot repeats that i think that's a hey listen we've
sat through some pretty ugly years while you bought these contracts out and when we signed
this extension we didn't know that was coming and so if you do the buffalo saber thing where you get
a bunch of hold on where you get a bunch of cap space and you sit on your hands we're gone i i
think there's two things there number one he was 58 games into his nhl career when they gave him
nine and a half million dollars a year so all right calm down second i think because
parise and uh suitor are coming off the books this is just a shot across the bow that i mean
it sounds petty to be like you better pay us lots of money because we're good
that doesn't fall as gracefully with fans but hey i don't know the wild fans i think are like
no we this is a guy that needs to stay yeah but what fan wants to hear uh i deserve to be treated
this way because like that is a that's a classic staple of a wrestling heel you fans should be
grateful to watch me wrestle i don't think that's what they go i don't feel like i don't think
that's what caprizo said at all i don't think that's how it lands i know that no but i don't
think that's how it's landing i'm not done my point okay all right all right i don't i don't
know what you want to know that if you didn't interrupt okay so here's the point if you had
done that we'd all be going boo right but instead he goes well this team hasn't been very good right
and they gotta prove that they're worth staying with they gotta prove that i should sign here
because they've become a better team and everyone goes valid valid i don't i don't think he gives a
shit i think it's about the money i think it's i think it's a little odd that this is a story
right now um it's uh he has two full seasons under contract he's not eligible to sign an
extension until this coming off season i think it's it's if i was minnesota wild fan i'd be like
okay why are you fanning the flames of i think he's signaling because the last a story didn't
the last extension wasn't there a little bit of do you guys remember that i don't remember the
stories too well because it's pre-pandemic at this point but yeah wasn't there some sort of
tension there about how much money he was going to get and how much term he was going to get there
was a there was a bit of a well locking of of horns i think there and we were very surprised
he got that much after not even a full season yeah it turned out to be the right thing yeah
and the nhl has largely switched that but i i just jesse to to what you're saying i think
i think that might be the negotiation style by this group they might just be like a get ready
oh coming 12 or 10 months out yeah well if you're bill garan that's the type of attitude you should
have that's 10 months out we'll figure it out he doesn't really seem like a time waster eh like
he just sort of gets after it like yeah this is gonna be 14 million against their cap i don't
give a shit yeah he just does he just does stuff i feel like we got a lot of time for them to figure
this out yeah yep i think they do i think you're absolutely right now i think they're doomed
actually uh right i feel like they're not doomed at all there's so much time between now and when
the contract is actually due i do think that there's going to be a um i do think that there's
going to be a a massive deal signed here i think he's staying um but i think i because here's what
i think the only team that's going to be able to pay him what he wants is minnesota yeah and i also
think minnesota is going to be one of the most like when we do our free agent special next year
minnesota is going to be like the top team to watch there it's literally like the gorillas
was like finally somebody let me out of my cage just let's go we've only got 800 grand against
the cap next year like it's you know in dead cap space that's what they'll have yeah um i think
that is going to be exciting and i think bill garren's sort of a you know just from interviewing
him with alan like he's a very relaxed guy he's not he's a he's he's very competitive but there's
also this um this thing about him where you're like he like when he wants something done it you
better freaking google bill garren cross-check face teammate like he had a training camp he
someone in the face yeah um here just to just to really emphasize what we were talking about
with caprizov he debuted in the nhl the 2021 season since then he leads them in goals with
160 number two is joel erickson ek with 98 no one else has over 100 for the minnesota wild in
caprizov's tenure has been a wildly unsuccessful team like they've he's never won a playoff series
in his life in the nhl that's never happened since the lockout that doesn't stop a forward
from earning money though since the lockout the minnesota wild as a franchise have only won two
playoff rounds like total they've been to the semi-finals and that's it and then they went to
the conference final and i said since the lock oh yeah since the lockout in their entire franchise's
history they've been to the conference uh finals once so they've been wildly unsuccessful it seems
very short-sighted to look at this player who's their best player probably in franchise history
and say in 2026 we're not going to give them all the money he wants yeah they're probably going to
give them all the money they want because they haven't won anything and they need this guy if
they're ever going to turn that page for their franchise this is going to get solved by the time
two and a half years from now rolls around but it's so much more fun when it's not
like like come on tell me some perspective tell me you can't get up if you're 31 other nhl teams
other than boston tell me you can't get up for an for an angry swayman v management that was
awesome let me hear it that was great that was so much better than like babs last last offseason
going into the play you know where it's like oh mike babcock might get fired whatever like
that is the boston bruins thing was way way super fun so i am always rooting for a little bit of
drama i won't lie except when it comes to the leafs who continue to perpetuate it on a level
that no other team can but what you know we we need first like we got to get to the steps here
what we need first would be him to come to training camp and say my gm wouldn't negotiate
with me all summer even though i'm the captain of the team and i want to be here for the rest
of my life and i deserve a stat deserve a statue that was stamkos you know like we're not even
close to even that happening yet with caprizov so i feel like let's let's find let's crawl before
we're right even walk but jesse i would rather jump to conclusions i'm not gonna lie his uh
since his nhl debut 330 points mad zugarello's 244 and joel ericksonek has 204 the list don't
give that guy money the list of guys with 200 or more points for the wild since uh kaprizov's debut
is three guys long and he has over 300 so it's it's not close no it's not particularly close
in in this life two and a half years from now three nhl games in the schedule by the time
you're listening to this the blues and cracking game is probably over uh the bruins game might
also be over too i'm not sure and then tonight so you got blues and kraken at 4 30 panthers and
bruins at 7 and then blackhawks and utah utah's first ever nhl game is tonight at 10 p.m and
lawson kraus was just named about an hour ago the associate captain hey not assistant captain
do they were all to the show because we had the conversation about assistant and associate
was that on air yes assistant associate or alternate alternate oh it was we were talking
alternate alternate is what mitch marner and morgan riley are this year they switch off the
and what mitch marner and austin matthews were last year they alternate the assistant
their alternate assistant captain what is tavaris he's a he's a full-blown assistant
so you can just make it whatever he's assistant to the regional make it stand for ass man
like kramer and steinfeld license plate that's an ass man ass man so i mean you know it
It could be a function of just the organization being,
we're going to be different because we're new.
But he will wear an A, and it doesn't matter.
But good for loss and crowd.
Speaking of the games tonight,
are they playing the Florida game with the Hurricane?
So apparently they are.
Okay.
And it is in Sunrise.
Now, the Hurricane is due to – but it's going to –
here's the thing.
That Hurricane is coming in on an angle.
Their Tampa is right in the middle of it.
But it's not like Sunrise or Miami will be far from it.
They're going to get hit really hard.
I don't know enough about it other than it's bad.
So I love, I find this stuff fascinating.
I don't love the effect, obviously, but I find weather fascinating.
You love the science of it, not the human cost of it.
Yeah, the destruction.
And they're saying, and by the way, for anybody listening in Florida, you know,
the last couple of weeks have been just devastating throughout.
And we're just, we really want to say, we do want to send our very best to you on this one.
Because, so what they were talking about, and this is going to affect the lightning game too,
uh is this is this hurricane you know they usually have cat one to cat five i heard this is a cat six
and so what they're saying is this is this is such a big storm that it is as big as the atmosphere
can mathematically handle i don't understand so you know how they have like limitations on hey
we know that human beings when they reach their max potential they can only run this fast or 100
meters in seven point whatever seconds before their body falls apart i've like there are
mathematical limits to things and and so yes they're going to play which i have to give them
credit for they're going to do it uh i don't know uh for tampa what's going to happen i know that
they had to move to carolina to play till at home till the 12th of october oh is that what it is
yeah yeah so that's i think so good if they're playing tonight right i assume tampa should be
So they'll be able to play it by the 12th.
But Sarasota and the Tampa area actually have been already hit really, really hard.
So it will be something to watch.
And I think probably something that the NHL acknowledges on some sort of level.
And everyone.
Oh, yeah.
Well, I'm just, you know, we're an NHL show.
So I just figured that.
But they are like it's not canceled.
They're not canceled.
OK, not canceled.
So, yeah.
And again, it's supposed to make landfall.
I think it's 2 a.m. Thursday, Eastern Standard Time.
So that has it.
i know so little yeah so it hasn't made landfall yet okay um it i mean on another one obviously
did but this one has not and it's we're just they're tracking it and sometimes what can happen
with these from the little that i know is that they can lose steam and they can lose it quickly
so that's what you're hoping for but that doesn't seem probable so the game on the 12th could be in
jeopardy if uh could be in the one in tampa yeah now that would be saturday night right yeah yeah
so it'll depend on what kind of state tampa's in and i believe from what i understood i thought that
i had read somewhere and i could be wrong about this that if it's one of those where they can't
play in amelie they'll play it in carolina and then switch the next home game around uh that
makes sense yeah just an easy fix right isn't carolina supposed to get hit hard too uh it might
be but it would be much later i think so yeah it's gonna cross landfall in florida which is crazy
um just a just a wild one yeah oh yeah because it's a it's a home and home yeah so yeah tampa's
playing in carolina on friday the 11th and they're playing in tampa on the 12th so maybe they should
stick around there play two games i have no idea man that's crazy yeah yeah i literally well and
the thing is is as of this recording maybe there's an announcement tonight and i think there probably
will be like i bet you gary betman's on one of the you know tnt or espn tonight uh helping to
promote the game and they'll ask him and he'll probably have some sort of answer ready to go
but as of this point there aren't really any like concrete nhl announcements on this it happens um
you got to be adaptable yes and i think in this situation too they are like hey
we do need to see how this goes yeah so so we'll see how it all why does the season start at 4 30
with uh blues cracking you're going through the games today that seems like an odd place to start
your season how many games are there there's three three games today i don't went through
them all and the first one is 4 30 blues kraken well i thought those were just three of the games
no they're spread out so you can watch all of them it's 4 37 and then 10 well there's your
answer i i no but look why i wonder if in the states because that is a west coast game i believe
it's st louis at seattle so that's right on the west coast so that's a 130 start yeah 130 so i'm
assuming that maybe it's a people will just take the day off or take a half day and go and um it's
it's all i'm just listen i'm speculating i have no idea uh but it is an odd it is an odd one but
i like it i'm fine with eight nine hours of hockey who cares i'm putting it on and i am not stopping
watching the only thing i'm doing tonight other than that is getting a haircut what what channel
is it on i don't in the states i whenever i see a weird jesse the reason i'm asking is because
Since the new NHL agreement began, there have been a bunch of weird scheduling things, and I've learned to just say, oh, I don't understand this thing.
I bet it's ESPN, right?
Like, it's their decision.
They're the ones who are like, this is good, and this is best for business for us, so that's what we're going to do.
Yeah, so today's an ESPN triple header.
It's like a thing they're promoting.
There it is.
So, yeah, on ESPN, this is opening night.
uh yeah and hey lose kraken is part of the espn triple triple header opening night oddly enough
too and it was just announced because i googled it because i was looking for it too jesse
bally sports which is still in bankruptcy proceedings uh is going to carry 71 regular
season blues games so that's interesting um for how much longer until they don't yeah well i mean
you're seeing the the emergence of sort of like new platforms like uh the ducks are going to be
carried on a platform i think founded by some canadian guys in alberta called victory plus
and the stars and the stars yeah and so there's it'll be interesting to see how long this regional
cable thing lasts in the nhl i think there's so much more availability of scale when you open it
up to wider audiences i can tell you though that the nhl worries about um markets outside of say
traditional market so uh the concern from a person in the executive leadership that makes these calls
is like if you did this in canada and you just made every game national and available to everyone
i was trying to watch an ottawa montreal game we can't watch ottawa games here yeah if they're in
the ottawa region you're just not even allowed to watch it which is silly the idea is they think
that if you open that up that it makes it impossible for markets like ottawa to gain any
steam because there's so many leafs and habs fans in the ottawa region going back generations that
they'd be cannibalized that the calgary flames or the winnipeg jets might be cannibalized by
edmonton oilers fans or vancouver canucks fans um uh and i don't know if i believe that i think
that there is i i see that i see the i see the what do i want to say logic i see the logic but
i feel like people are very you know very hometown very you know unless you're drew and you're a
trader uh you're you're a very hometown sort of person the idea of building the 30 years they're
not thinking about like tomorrow's ratings of the ottawa they're thinking about building a culture
around the Ottawa centers for the next 50 years
is we need to protect our games.
I understand that completely.
Yeah, but...
But is it true?
I don't think the logic meets the practical.
Right.
I think fans adapting is the third most likely scenario.
The top two in no particular order are steal or don't watch.
Yeah.
Followed by adapt.
Right.
Watch whatever.
And I look at the NFL, and I know it's a different sport,
but NFL fans, whether you're...
Like, my mom is a hardcore Steelers fan.
She's from Pittsburgh, went to North Allegheny High.
Like, you know, full-blown somebody from Pittsburgh.
She will put on football at, you know, the pre-show start at 10 a.m.
I think she does.
She loves the, she watches, like, CBS Sunday morning.
And then it goes right into the CBS coverage.
Because my mom, you know, you have to be old to watch CBS Sunday morning.
And then you go right into the, I make fun of her for that all the time.
Or that and Turner Classic Movies, her other favorite channel.
And then you go into the pre-shows, which are two hours.
and then your kickoff's at what, 12.30?
No, 1 o'clock.
1 o'clock.
East Coast.
And she'll watch it all day.
Doesn't matter what's on.
And that's my mom who's a passive sports fan at best.
And young.
And so I look at this from our generation perspective
and I go, well, yeah, I would like to watch
a Montreal-Ottawa game just because.
But I know that I do this for a living.
So it's difficult for me to be like the average fan.
And the example you brought up is actually very interesting
because for that generation, Cowboys and Steelers fans grew across the country
because that was the only thing available on television.
The NFL market conditioned the entirety of America to be Cowboys and Steelers fans
because they were always on the national games.
The Cowboys are America's team because they were always featured in the games.
Those were the only games you could watch on television if you cared about football.
so from that that generation's perspective if we're going to condition people to be fans don't
give them any other options you know but our generation is like hey let's go find the team
we want yeah you know so there's a there's a disconnect there so who's in charge them so i
understand their logic and that hey this has worked for 50 years of television if you give
people only this option to watch the senators in this region they will be conditioned to be
senators fans but i think in this day and age when you can have streaming services you can find
whatever you want if you don't want to be a senator's fans you'll just fan you'll find a way
to just not watch yeah because you can get around it if you and i i look at you you're you're a very
specific example don't look at me i look at you you're sexy no but when you were working at sports
net they had to geo lock your streams to canada because the sports net package did not extend
into the United States that's not Sportsnet's fault
no of course not Sportsnet got a lot of shit
for that but like it was illegal
they don't own the rights to air the game in America
and I mean listen I don't
know what it would have taken I think maybe
a phone call to the United States
to say hey guys do you want to partner on this
it would have taken millions of dollars
because you'd have to buy the rights to do
that from who
it would be NBC
yeah but NBC could
join on it and sell against it
there's many ways to
like instead of an upfront payment you can do a rev share hey nbc you get access to the american
revenue sports let's get access to the i don't know man that sounds like doing stuff but but
when you when we what we saw when and we don't even have the feeds to the game but what we saw
when we were doing the streams last year for the first time and the footage without the footage
is that the numbers exploded because you were able to scale and and i think i i feel like maybe
the nhl's missing out on that opportunity and i look at a guy like drew who i make we make fun
of constantly but you know who we love uh uh i look at hayden one of our other producers is a
minnesota wild fan both from toronto and and i think those guys latched onto those teams because
there was a player not the team there was a player on that team that electrified them and i think in
drew's case it was joe sackick that makes sense but it might have been forsberg it could have been
Milan Hayduke could have been
you know like so many
less likely
yeah less like
hey Milan Hayduke was awesome
he was
for me
the reason I am a Leafs fan
is completely Doug Gilmore
full stop
and when he went to the Devils
I got a Devils jersey
yours is Felix Potfan
yeah
and I think
so I think we need to get out
of this mentality of
if it's on TV
they're going to be fans
I think what these teams
need to focus on
which we talk about
all the time guys
is marketing the players
if you do a great job marketing the star of that team chances are the kids who are super
impressionable yeah we'll go that's the team i like and slowly they are doing that finally the
easiest marketing tool is winning yeah if if every year for the sens was 2017 really should be in
trouble um but they did well in 2017 and then disappeared and not just disappeared like
disappeared in the most depressing way ever yeah like every season was catastrophic and then last
year was just sort of not great chaos yeah it was like after the shane pinto stuff got cleared up
it was just oh the regular bad uh like sustained success that that is the number one two and three
factor i think it's largely because they had a bad owner for many years good beliefs uh friggin
like again this is very anecdotal and i and i can't wait to hear what you guys are going to
say but when i worked at the zoo um there no kids wore leaf hats you know why they stunk
they all wore getz laugh shirts and a lot of perry shirts a lot of cane and a lot of taves
and a lot of crosby and malkin and olvechkin not backstrom because he's a very disrespected star
but all the good ones people cheered for the good teams and what do you see now we're not among them
Marner Matthews Nylander Tavares Riley yeah you see them all yeah yeah because well even though
they haven't had playoff success older people like someone told me the other day they're like
I don't wear my leaf hat anymore I feel stupid and this is someone who goes to all the games
I understand but they make the playoffs every year you gotta win yeah that's that's silly
I don't like that
nobody in the room
Mattie gave that a big
even Mattie
that's a you problem
I look at that and I go listen
season ticket holder
I loved the Toronto Maple Leafs when they were dog shit
I love them now
at their most frustrating which they have been in the last three years
I would say there is not a hope
in hell that you could get me to stop wearing Leafs
gear not a chance
I've seen it all
it looks too good on me
Also, yeah, blue's a good color, man.
It's a good color.
So just to give some credit to the NHL,
even today they released a commercial to kick off the season.
What is going on with Gen Z, kind of parody news thing.
And in it, they feature all of the young stars.
So Bedard's in it.
Jack Hughes is in it.
McDavid's in it.
And it's a star-based.
Nick Suzuki is in it.
It's a star-based.
We're marketing our players commercial.
and the nhl with kicking off with the amazon doc i think they've finally kicking and screaming
have been convinced that the way to market this game is through guys like crosby and kachuk
and the actual stars that play this game austin matthews is in it some of my favorite commercials
about the nhl never ran in canada and they were the espn ovechkin and crosby in the office sports
center one this is sports center this is sports they were amazing and it's like the nhl was like
wow what a success i'm gonna forget everything oh every time i go it's crazy every time i go
to the states i'm like oh you guys put famous people in your commercials yeah yeah or you
look at the way sports net markets the one baseball team we have like even like even
mid-tier like minimori kawasaki was a personality but that guy wasn't great at baseball and he had
a walk-off single once and that's great but like in terms of like professional baseball obviously
he was good enough to make it he's a spectacular player but my point is he became a fucking star
to the point where you saw so many kawasaki jerseys everywhere and and and it's like i'm so
glad to see the nhl doing this finally because the star power is bonkers and i feel like we went
through a bit of a a lull and you know between tase kane crosby malkin ovechkin and then
eichel mcdavid yeah there wasn't like you had you know a yakupov first overall pick and you had
huge new who is good but new yeah he's not those other guys i don't think eichel enters that
category during his time in buffalo no i agree and i don't even know if he's there now i think
the injury probably hindered that but he's a great player it was kind of just like that era and then
mcdavid yeah mcdavid came around and then that kind of ushered in like austin and all that and
then the hughes brothers and all the next stars and mckinnon mckinnon took a while right people
forget when he signed that deal for like five million bucks colorado was bad and so was he
like he didn't even crack 50 points i don't know yeah so like when that deal happened it was like
oh okay well i guess that sort of makes sense we'll see if it pans out can you imagine i still
remember when he arrived there was just this moment where i'm like oh shit he's crazy but it
took him a few years right yeah whereas now you're getting year after year after year and obviously
there's some exceptions here you're getting guys who are first overall pick who walk right into the
nhl and they're good and you know like as bad as connor uh connor bedard is at defense and he's
terrible he was terrible last year on defense like without the puck brutal with the puck amazing
this is a guy that will electrify you this is a guy you can build this around um in montreal i
think i'm glad they mentioned nick suzuki there yeah he's in the commercial he should be he should
be that guy i know people give uh montrealers shit for this but like nick suzuki is a star man
this guy's a great player he's been forced to carry such a load for such a not good team yes
and wait till
Slavkovski and Caulfield
hit the ice with them
and they have that
if they find that chemistry
the last four months
last year
it's going to be insane
it's going to be so fun
if they don't
go into five digits
man games lost again
like
the last three years
for them has been awful
they'll be fine
yeah
they'll be fine
so
and then I wanted to
I wanted to mention
a couple other things here
we got Connor McDavid
who will have his jersey number
retired by the Erie Otters
in January
I saw that.
Nice.
Now, he didn't win the Memorial Cup, though.
Has the Erie Otters standard dropped?
I wonder, like, you know, because who did they lose to again?
I forget.
That would be Ken Appleby and the Oshawa Generals.
You've been Appleby'd, maybe.
Who was on that Oshawa Generals team that made the show that people would recognize?
Oh, shit.
Who was the guy who they're like, oh, he shut down McDavid, which he didn't.
Cole Castles.
I think he was a Canucks prospect.
So, yeah, I got it here.
Okay.
Okay.
Michael Dalcol, who was like, people were like, that guy's going to be sick.
Fifth overall pick, Michael Dalcol.
Cole Castles.
Yep.
Future Leaf, Tobias Lindbergh.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, Anthony Sorelli.
Is he?
Yeah, Anthony Sorelli is here.
Mitchell Van de Sample.
I remember Mitch Van de Sample.
I think he played on the Islanders.
I'm going to look at Michael McCarron was on that team.
Yeah.
Yeah.
uh josh brown dakota murmus dakota murmus dakota murmus was on that team um only played 30 games
and i'm just keep i'm gonna keep looking yeah ken appleby and appleby was disgusting he was
really good uh yeah ken appleby and jeremy broder well you're not gonna be the team with a rotor in
that no you're not anyway so god wrote her who just uh played a preseason game with the devils
yes he did good for jeremy broder weird cliff who was on that team too cliff who never really
panned out but i always had he's playing in the slovak league now what's that i said he was a
pick he was a pick he was a he was a pretty high pick if i remember what was he yeah third round
come on that's not bad not bad at all don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts
of your life you know the same way you can skip an ad i get it i'm siaya and i live in ice cove
i've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way i planned and today i'm still
figuring it out somehow things usually get worse before they get better apparently that's how i
roll so bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride don't miss the new season of north of north
starting september 8th on cbc gem um okay and then the next one uh is um i wanted to ask you
guys this remember we did that little um that little break on the utah fan concessions thing
yes okay so i think you know what story i like how you still call them breaks like yeah yeah
they're not radio they're segments yeah you know just it's just it's funny to hear like that's
conditioned into you 15 years in radio 15 years and it still just comes out so so okay so people
were mad at our electric haterade break the the houston astros 35 cocktail they were mad at one
thing and they were mad because they were like steve dangle doesn't pay for concessions when
he goes to the game actually he does he just has a bad memory what are you talking about because
they i asked you what would a beer cost and you said i don't know 12 bucks and people were like
uh try 20 well i don't remember yeah and that was oh yeah no sportsnet bought my my beer
give your head a shake that's why it was the joke i'm just joking so for for to get like a beer and
like a hot dog at a leaf game it's like 25 bucks minimum yeah right it's a lot of money that's a
lot of money do you want to know what 20 worth of food at in atlanta mercedes-benz stadium we
already mentioned these guys but we actually have a physical picture of what 20 worth of food
looks like in atlanta this is the hawks uh no remember i i kept telling you about mercedes-benz
stadium the atlanta falcons they have like fan friendly pricing they have had that for years
where they're charging like three bucks for a hot dog and two bucks for also my glasses on to
observe today's fat guy corner kanye west also lived there for uh several weeks oh yeah he did
yeah anyway continue jesse now there you go that's 20 worth of food what there's a picture so that's
a large looks like a diet coke you got a full bag of popcorn you've got chicken fingers and fries
you got a hot dog you got nachos and cheese you got a pretzel and you got a piece of cheese or
pepperoni pizza that's 20 worth of food guys that's a that's a family meal it all looks delicious
too like it's not like shitty hot dog you know it's not the dollar hot dogs you get at the jays
game where it's the tiny ones this is a full hot dog you ever have a food you defend to the death
and then there's a food that like you just you can't justify i can't justify my love of this food
give me the shittiest most plastic looking queso and put it directly into my bloodstream wow really
intravenous i don't know why the older i get the more i'm like that looks like it's gonna hurt
like that looks like it's gonna do damage to my body and i don't want to do that
queso what what is pump it into my gum it's like the cheese the cheese in the nachos oh my god what
the fuck are you talking what is queso they call it queso that's what it's called yeah i've never
heard in my entire life anybody called the cheese that comes with not maddie have you ever heard
that before yeah queso i'm pretty sure in spanish it means cheese yeah that's that's why it's queso
nachos and cheese it's yeah that's i thought i thought you were saying quesadilla and i was like
there's no quesadilla on this no it's a mexican cheese dip yeah um it's not but it's just like
fake cheese that comes with your well well it is called queso but real queso guys has onion garlic
like jalapenos, tomatoes, cilantro, spices.
And that queso is lumpy, but it might just be the fake cheese.
It is.
But the nachos, the menu is queso.
And they call it queso.
No, they don't.
Yes, they do.
They say the board says nachos and cheese.
Jesse, look at you.
Look at me.
I know what I'm talking about.
No, no, no.
I know what I'm talking about.
I'm saying if I walk down to the Rogers Center and I get nachos and cheese,
it does not say queso.
All right.
You know what they're doing?
there is only one way to settle this guys yep and that is if you're a fan and you're going to any
nhl game this no that's not no i'm coming from my perspective on what i've experienced
send us a picture okay you have case though and you've heard of it i'm not i'm saying that i've
never been to a ballpark or a stadium where they've had i would like to know what regions
call it queso and what regions there you go now you dipped it yeah because i always thought it
was just warmed up cheese whiz it's only so if it's made in queso mexico yeah but i just thought
it's dead silence i thought it was very good it's cheese um justin justin fisher just just texted us
fat guy here queso is universally recognized as a term for cheese sauce wow never heard of it
uh i've heard of that in my life you guys are out to lunch uh no i would love to be out to lunch
i don't think so i've never heard of queso i'd snort queso it's so good it's warm orange stuff
there's probably no cheese substance in that i don't give a shit like it's not like i give a
good gosh darn think queso is is not the thing you get i want at scotia bank arena i'd order an
extra queso to dip my pretzel in i don't do you think i don't give a crap do you think you're
eating queso at the rogers center jesse when you're watching the i can't tell if you're mad
at me or mad on my behalf do you think you're eating quote queso when they hand you those
stale chips and warm orange sludge i've never thought of it ever not once i'm just like i
can't wait to put that ooey orange substance in my body exactly yes it's not queso they could
call it fucko the clown sauce if that's what it is call it by its name i'm just saying like
if you want queso you're not getting that at mercedes-benz stadium uh now i want to ask you
guys this um how much stock do you put in the and it's okay if it's not a lot ea sports nhl sim
they do it before the year every year and they try to quote unquote predict who's going to be in it
how often are they right i don't know actually somebody should keep track of that i'm guessing
not not often so i'm gonna run you through the divisions okay and then i want to talk about the
playoffs okay so in the pacific they have vancouver first edmonton second vegas third seattle four
whoa do that again slow it down vancouver yeah edmonton vegas seattle in the metro seattle's
pretty high although i had them pretty high new york new jersey carolina pittsburgh
tracks colorado dallas nashville and utah in the central oh interesting because they have winnipeg
finishing seventh which is odd to me uh and in the atlantic the toronto maple leafs at number one
no panthers at number two boston number three and tampa four now can you guess for me because
they then did a playoff simulation who the two teams were that made the finals and by the way
yes it does go to a game seven toronto utah no jesse uh toronto vancouver new york edmonton
oh there you go and which team do they have winning in game seven edmonton edmonton new
york oh so i thought you'd find it funny now my only question was hey toronto made it to tops in
their division did they make it out of the first round and i'm sad to tell you the lightning they
lose to the lightning it doesn't say it doesn't say but they do that's wrong they believe according
to the ea sports getting too realistic whatever happened to this fun old arcade mode oh my if you
want to take a look at how accurate they are they are here is their playoff simulation from last
season so we can see like how right did they get it how much stock should we put into this first
of all they had vancouver winning the stanley cup over boston and if we go through the first round
series tampa beat florida you could yeah give it no give me the buzz oh boston beat toronto
yep ding ding in seven fuck you they they nailed that oh they mailed new york new york beats
washington they did and they beat they got the games right and everything yeah i don't think
that's hard i still think that's kind of no that's the free space that's that's like hey one team's
in 82 and the others are 95 but even the leafs one is a 4-3 boston in game seven right all right
all right so carolina beat new york island uh edmonton beats la vancouver beats nashville
colorado beats winnipeg vegas beats dallas so you got one that's six out of eight two six at eight
there you go second round colorado beats vegas i don't know because it's edmonton or uh right
sorry dallas gets to the uh conference final they're already wrong on that side of the bracket
Colorado gets through the Western Conference Finals.
Vancouver, they have beating Edmonton.
Wrong.
And then Boston beats Tampa.
Wrong.
And then New York beats Carolina.
And then they have Boston over New York,
Vancouver in the finals.
From there, they're out.
So they got six out of eight in the first round,
and then from there, it's pretty miserable.
That's a playoff bracket,
at least in the first round,
that you could be proud of.
Yes.
And then from there, it's disgusting.
It's hard.
They got one out of four.
Yeah.
Okay.
yeah anyway i just thought you'd find that interesting now uh going who do you think
wins what award and i'll run you through the awards here okay so we've got uh who wins the
um heart trophy i mean it's got to be c mcd it is not in the game in the game oh okay
no go ahead the camera was on you uh austin austin he also wins the rocket the game has
scoring 75 goals this year.
Fuck you.
Igor Shesturkin gets the Vesna and the Conn Smythe.
McDavid gets the Lindsay and the Art Ross
with 147 points.
Holy moly.
So Austin scored 75 goals
and couldn't win the 10-lens.
Because he only got 49 assists.
Bum!
124 points.
Kale McCarr.
This is 75 goals.
Kale McCarr falls just shy of 100 points,
gets the Norris Trophy,
and the Calder, according to EA Sports NHL,
25 is Macklin Celebrini.
Ah, Mitch Goff got
robbed. I thought it was going to be Mitch Goff. No, it was not.
It was not. No. Anyway,
lastly, before we get to
the press conference,
CHL players
will be eligible for the NCAA
very soon.
Alan was tweeting about this. The NCAA
will grant Canadian major
junior players eligibility within the next
and this is several days ago, 30
days. And
And it's because of a bunch of antitrust suits that are filed against the NCAA.
And what's interesting about how this is being done is when it's been attacked in the past,
the NCAA has been able to swat things away because it's been one at a time.
The problem now is there's so many antitrust lawsuits in their way right now that they
can only really fight the big ones.
And so major junior hockey, meh, meh.
so it's looking like um it's looking like players will be able to jump from canadian major junior
to play college hockey and let's say you're 18 years old and you're a late bloomer or you're
just not going to make the nhl you can now go to university for free and play on the team well and
there are restrictions on um like teams can only have i think it's five players above a certain age
yep right and for some guys that either means getting traded and uprooting your entire life
or you're just out yeah and you're now in this weird okay i'm good enough to play junior i'm not
good enough to play pro you can play cis like canadian hockey and that's what a lot of guys
are doing like certain things are gonna take a hit but like you can't look at it like okay what
industry is this good for what industry is this bad for it's is this policy just yes and to me i
don't i don't understand the justification for keeping major junior players out of u.s colleges
well up to this point it's been because we can't well and that's not just and they can go to
canadian ones no problem because reasons yeah that doesn't make sense yeah yeah so i actually
thought that was an interesting little note uh and with that i think we're ready to do the press
conference boys we could put that let's do it the presser sdp the steve dangle press conference
we teased this all show yesterday and at the end of the day no big waiver claims happened
so i feel like oh okay sorry that's worth a mention sorry i did want to point something out
remember i said the buffalo sabers should be like crows on a carcass just picking away
they ended up a net negative in players because they lost james reimer and claimed nobody
did you see the roster for today it's bad they got injuries right i know like but turk is day
to day and it's not it's not super i uh i thought you were panicking and then i saw that roster i'm
like oh no they're bad they're horrible and i regret i regret it i regret it i afforded them
yeah but you know what i regretted it because they just seem to be incapable of action and i
wonder like how long is it before we start saying kevin adams is on the hot seat because i look at
this and i go okay is there an internal cap we haven't seen any reports on that but there could
be and if there is what is it and has he lost ownership's trust you can and who does he need
to run things by you can have an internal cap and not be complete ass and um that's what they
Like, tell me that Pierre Engvall doesn't fit the Sabres perfectly.
I mean...
He's a top nine player there.
He would not be worse.
Dude, there's a bunch of players that were on the waiver wire yesterday.
For all the worry about Matt Murray slipping, going somewhere else,
he did slip through waivers.
The bonus looked like it helped, and the sympathy,
I'm not going to play because I need a rehab in Toronto thing worked.
And nobody was noodling Dubas, and all the Penguins got there.
Noodling.
I bet it is a factor.
what is like teams will be like they'll probably contact the player's agent and be like willie
and they go come on man and then they just don't you know i think sometimes they just don't give
a shit uh years ago i think it was detroit they signed evgeny to bakov and he was coming from
europe like he was in the nhl for a long time came from europe and they really needed a goalie
and the islanders went nah and they just took him he had no choice but to report that's the
one that made you so upset the was it a season ago when arizona took the leafs goalie the finished
guy yeah he signed a contract i forget his name um harry satari harry satari you like died for
yeah because what the fuck was the point of arizona doing that yeah they used him i think
two games and it ruined his nhl and we've never heard of him since yeah it ruined his shot
yeah oh okay and i'm supposed to believe that was for reasons larger than they were just
fucking with the leafs you know what i mean it didn't benefit them at all and it wrecked his
nhl career yeah oh cool glad we did that for a meme hope that was fun in the gm adam do you have
what penguins were up uh on waivers yesterday for me penguin and while you do that i want to
shout out insider j money who first alerted me to my appearance in the flyers training camp
uh youtube docuseries and he said that it's more impressive than steve's appearance in the amazon
doc so shout out at insider j money who's always a big fan of all of our programming um okay so
i've got who did the league say okay that's not a good enough player to just noodle with kyle
so john ludwig was put on waivers and colorado claimed him from the penguins yeah oh they did
lose a guy they did lose a guy king the king johnny johnny ludd no way how many players has
he lost to waivers since when did he become a gm 2018 yeah like three guys got claimed and one of
them was a so so here are the you had a lot of a lot of guys so cory andowski tristan braz billy
kuban and uh owen pickering who i believe was a first round pick was he not oh really wasn't
owen pickering like a high pick am i wrong i'm gonna look that up i just know that i just remember
nathan clurman philip crawl first round legend 21st overall in 2022 that's two years ago he was
waved yeah um how does that work oh no they assigned them they assigned them oh i was like
Nathan Klerman, Philip Kroll, John Ludwig,
and then Emil Benstrom, Jonathan Gruden,
Juna Kopanen, and Sam Poulin.
Okay.
Those are all the guys assigned.
But one guy got claimed, which is hilarious.
Yeah.
This whole time, I thought he skirted through that.
No, no.
He did not get through.
Again, it's the Toronto bump, man.
Curtis McElhaney, Calvin Pickard, Hari Sateri.
Those are just the goalies.
uh aaron dell no yeah there's another goalie uh john ludvig um jimmy vc uh yeah they were
shocked when they lost vc yeah did they lose seth griffith i know they got him off waivers i don't
remember if they dude it's a crazy list it's oh william lagason last year noted out false client
it's so that wasn't crazy that it can't be an accident yeah no you know 100 no they were
fucking with the league for sure they were 100 they were fucking yeah um adam you wanted me to
bring this up earlier in the show i have it ready for you this is the over under video
so so first off jesse explain this one because we were going through our season previews and
if you haven't heard them you can hear them and watch them uh spotify and apple we have
eastern and western conference uh episodes and then of course we have every 30 all 32 teams
laid out on our youtube channel but jesse lister started to get wise to steve on something yeah so
our season previews were coming out and then on our discord server as as we were like 20 uh previews
in on the youtube channel somebody i think was shawnee on the on the discord server pointed out
that steve was 16 of 20 on the overs for the season preview i'm an optimist which is just like
i don't think possible unless one team got like 20 points that year just every time we did a
previous team we go over over over and um shawnee actually tallied the final uh tally off for the
over unders and steve was 24 of 32 over over so uh that face steve is making on the screen right
now is how he feels so adam had hayden cut a compilation of steve saying over a whole bunch
of time. So here it is. Punch the over like an insulted Felix Potvin. Over. So I'm going to go
over. I'm going to be a light over. I want to say over. I'm going to say it anyway. That's the
MGM. I'm going to say over. I'm going over. Over and sixth. I'll take the over and I'm going to
take the over. That's an easy over for me. Hammer the over. Over. I take the over and I smash it
like I'm in the Hulkbuster Iron Man. Right. Easy over for me. I'm going to say over. I'd beat that
over like it owes me money i'm gonna say over by a hair diving like superman and headbutting over
i go over on that over i lightly push the over over yeah over i am sorry to those who are left
yeah of the teams that steve did not choose over on it was the wild utah detroit buffalo
Boston Anaheim Philadelphia
and LA Kings you know what's
funny now that Boston has
Swayman I regret that under
yeah
I might have to go 25 over
you might have to go 25 over
man that
75 so you said your team
you said 12 of
16 teams in the West will be over
12 of 16 teams in the
East will also see that's
amazing i just that's so funny adam your count was 10 of 16 in the west and the 11 of 16 in the
east it's a little high also an optimist i was 10 and 10 on each okay also yeah so we were pretty
we were a lot of overs a lot of overs but i think i've went way too i think it speaks to the league
probably not being as have and have not this year like like there was last year like celebrities
coming five teams are like fuck it we don't care about this season i don't think no disrespect to
the top five prospects but nobody's talking about them like they were talking about macklin and i
think the school school first is here i don't even know yet i know it's out there uh drafts are not
obviously my specialty uh but i would look at this and i'd go like it's not unfair to say that
because teams will probably come a little bit closer together like i don't see the sharks being
at 47 points hammering the over on the sharks being you know what were they i think their over
under was like 50 something yeah i think they can do that 22 points behind the leafs when they
finished last yeah like so that's pretty big so that's where that comes from uh but man it's still
fucking hilarious yeah there's definitely more parody in the nhl right now well and hopefully
right maybe james reimer really turns the ducks around and and what does that okay legit he thrives
in this is why i shot situation he might have done well in buffalo because no he if if you do
if you perform well in front of him oh boy you're in trouble yeah no if you if you just hang him out
to dry and let him get shelled get ready to speak 45 saves a night ease that's his mo
that's his mo i'm looking forward i'm really looking forward to this getting going like i
oh i this past saturday watching the leafs and red wings play i was like what the fuck are we
doing enough like why do we not start in october just start of october 1st boom that's the first
nhl game it's so easy i and and don't talk to me about the czech series it's different and you
know it is i i don't know how excited i am for hockey until it's on like this season i was like
you know i'm excited for games to get started and then it's a pre-season game and i know you're
like oh why are we doing this and like any remotely close scoring chance i'm like i'm like
i'm a big gasper okay okay i was so excited i'm a big gasper i like that gasper the friendly host

and what do we got next question comes from natasha what are you guys dressing up for as
halloween i'll add in what are your kids dressing up as i think that's more interesting and what are
your top three overrated halloween costumes uh i am not sure what i'm gonna go as this year i don't
want to go as blippy again uh i may go and do too much and be the lorax um oh that's good oh i like
the lorax that's a good one leo you always pick orange costumes by the way blippy is very orange
so it's lorax i'm gonna uh leo is gonna be uh oh it's spooky i don't know if you're ready to hear
this i don't know if it's appropriate to dress my four-year-old up as a pure later driver oh
that's fun because his uncle's a pure his uncle is a pure later and obviously he probably watched
the episodes of the pure later truck always arriving during the sdp five years ago in full
yes that used to pre-pandemic listeners you know from the womb yeah jesse i don't have my halloween
costume set up yet but last year i i have the i have like the um i don't know what to describe
the one where you have like a hood the queso dip yeah i'd like one of the the devil kind of
costumes where you just have a hood and your your mask is completely covered and under it it had
glowing eyes and i gave out a candy in that costume and i legitimately scared some children
who are like under four under five who did not want to come to the door wow because i looked like
a little too scary also i'm like really big so it's kind of intimidating to a little child so i
don't know if i'm gonna wear that costume again to hand out candy i might have to find a new one
that's just like kid friend can you just be the the neighborhood guy who sets up on his porch and
pretends that it's pretends you're just like a dummy and cares people like i've always wanted
to do that that i think would be so much fun yeah you sitting there i'm just okay here's how to
improve it exact same costume sit in a chair head down when they get to your step eyes up so that
they see the glow and then you stand yeah and then go what do you want i'm trying to see if i
had a picture here but i can't oh last october i can't really find the picture but um adam what
are you going to ask so i don't have my daughter this year for halloween i had her last year
divorce family hello and so i know that she's going as somebody from vampire high and it's hard
to keep all the characters is it one of the vampires it's well because vampire high has like
other monsters in it too but they're like they all kind of look like goth punk rock characters
they're kind of cool actually i have to give her credit for that she's got good taste uh and so
mom i'm 150 i can date who i want yeah yeah so i think she's going to something like that
and then for me like we'll probably end up going with my niece and nephew um around their
neighborhood and if i i don't love halloween i've never loved getting dressed up um so i don't
think i'm gonna dress up as anything like i'm just gonna go in a jacket and enjoy myself and
what are you i'm the dad i'm dad uh yeah or i'm uncle this time and you know i it's not i hate to
be that guy but i've just do you know that you know some people that are like like whatever
reason they just never latched on to something i like halloween candy clearly uh i like halloween
movies i like all that stuff but i just never even as a kid was never like man i can't wait
to get dressed up it was always a chore i don't like scary shit you know like no i know like it
yeah i think that's why jesse i think that's the reason why steve won't watch game of thrones
i think that's why no yeah steve this was me last year does that scare you
yeah that's that's very scary jesse i like that see jesse's so good at this stuff i like halloween
halloween's fun see i'm more of a christmas guy yeah you could be both i could crazy how they
don't intersect they have a movie for that they have a movie this is halloween this is yeah yeah
i know i know i know maybe i will we'll think about it i have gone in the past like last year
i was one of the guys from frozen and then the year before no man i was not the snow i actually
think he's funny he's the only part of that plot in that movie that makes sense you have been a
fun snowman frozen is is there's so little plot in that movie it's unbelievable the rock people
are unnecessary i like the rock people yeah but they're unnecessary yeah yeah yeah everybody's uh
what what is that song there's a bit of a fixer-upper yeah yeah oh yeah uh it's really good
right uh uh yeah the rock people are unnecessary yeah no i and then i was um the the leader of the
paw patrol he has a name what's his chase chase i was chased a couple years ago i just made up a
name you know what honestly it would have fit jess like it's not a bad girl i don't have children
yeah chase chase is cool chase is on the case yeah i do remember uh at that time too there was
a controversy around for some reason um uh paw patrol became part of the political discourse
and it was like people were so well like a cab includes the pop yeah yeah it was like so so i
was like should i close this is this a problem and like whatever but yeah everly was a little
paw patrol puppy and i was chase so i would do it for i will do it for her it's so much more fun
with her with without it's like i'll just put a jacket on have a good time have a beer so she
likes chase she used to she's not into that stuff anymore oh okay yeah she used to be used to love
yeah yeah she used to be a boo no no bootlicker oh bootlicker that's right yeah well that too
uh yeah so other questions jesse but we have it we gotta throw to our interview oh that's right
oh my god mike camito is joining us so he's gonna talk about his new book now the book is habs 365
daily stories from the ice from a familiar guy to us mike camito who is done talking about the
toronto maple leafs let's talk about more successful teams like the montreal canadians
right mike oh let's let's do it let's do it yeah uh so so first off when does the book arrive when
What am I able to read and buy?
So the book actually comes out the same day as Steve's new book.
You piece of crap!
So we're in some good company on October 15th.
I think also Kadri's book is out that day,
so it's a pretty big day for hockey books.
I'm happy to share the date with some fellow authors.
Now, why is your book going to outsell Steve's book?
If only.
I mean, I guess if you're looking for a Montreal Canadiens book,
I think I've got the market cornered for October 15th,
but like Leafs 365 that we talked about last year,
it's 365 short stories about the Montreal Canadiens,
one for every day of the year.
So a lot more championships to discuss, I think,
in those April and May months,
which kind of got a little tedious after a while,
to be honest, as a Leafs fan,
writing more about these championship stories.
It's kind of like, all right, I think we're good.
Let's move on.
But that's the premise of the book,
much like the other books in the 365 series.
So they've won 24 cups, which is an embarrassment of riches.
Did the Montreal Canadiens ever win the Stanley Cup on the same day?
Yes, there was actually multiple, multiple stories.
Yeah.
So every story, every story always has like a title where it's like the date and then
the title of the story, then the year.
And so there's a few of them where it's like Habs win the cup 1958 and 1962, for example.
I don't know if those are exactly right, but so don't fact check me on that.
But yes, it's happened multiple times
throughout the franchise's history.
Disgusting.
Embarrassment of riches.
You grew up a Leafs fan, right?
Yep.
Why should Montreal fans trust you?
So that's a great question.
And I think I was pretty honest
and upfront about this
in the opening of the book.
I said, listen, I'm a Leafs fan.
So like, let's get that out of the way.
But what I recognized early on
is that no Habs fan
is going to want to read a book
written by a Leafs fan.
So I left some of my baggage at the door
and tried to go into this
pretty objectively.
I did my research the way that I've done with every other book and I've really just tried to
learn as much as I could about the franchise. Admittedly, as a non-Habs fan, there's going to
be stuff that maybe is a blind spot for me or maybe I wasn't as much aware as somebody who's
grown up with the franchise, but I made it my point to just ensure that I was really going by
the history of the team and trying to, I think, share things that I found really interesting or
that I found where it was fun to learn about. There are a couple of stories near the end where
I obviously you know acknowledge once again that I am a Leafs fan and I'll kind of bring those in
but for the most part I thought it would be really annoying if I was writing these stories from the
perspective of a Leaf fan for when we talk about 2021 for example no one wants to hear me whine
about that series necessarily but yeah there you go so I stayed in my lane and I tried to just do
the job of a historian and tell the stories but also early on recognizing that I do have a
different perspective going into these stories than somebody who grew up with the team. They've
had a preposterous amount of legends uh play with them who are who are some players that you gained
a greater appreciation for like like you know a blind spot for me for example not a blind spot
necessarily just a player that i know i need to do more research on is john beliveau just for how
beloved he is in that fan base yeah i mean i think there's a lot of players like like john beliveau
who i think have loomed large at least for me like in the historical sense but be with this book it
was a little bit different from the previous books i got to talk to a few former players for it and
and in a book like with the stories of this length you don't necessarily have to do an interview to
write 175 word story but the habs were quite supportive of the project and so i got to talk
to larry robinson for one i think is somebody that stuck out for me where wow you know he also
looms large in the you know historical landscape but got to chat with him on the phone talked about
his first game and just a really appreciation for the type of player that he was uh and then
got to talk to him about like the evolution of his career going to LA when he wanted to stay in
Montreal but ultimately that was really uh I think the the most palatable move for him at that time
so players like that Yvonne Cornway was another one where my father-in-law is a diehard Habs fan
and so he grew up with the Roadrunner but for me to be able to talk to him on the phone just like
kind of made my day knowing that if my father-in-law and other Habs fans of his vintage were excited
about these players how great it is for me to be able to chat with them and be able to incorporate
you know even a little bit of their perspective into some of these uh short stories it must be
hard to pare down the stories you know because the franchise is so long they've been so successful
you mentioned the embarrassment of riches how do you cut it down to 365 moments like did you just
focus on all of the championships and the the records and all that stuff like i don't even
know where to start with the habs in their franchise yeah it's it's it's a tough exercise
that's always the hardest part obviously once you've identified the stories like the research
and writing comes pretty quickly um but but to your point jesse it's because you want to be able
to try to share what is oftentimes the most historically significant recognizing that what
i think is historically significant is going to vary from reader to reader um so there are times
when like i could have done another story about a championship and i decided i think we've covered
you know maybe that that campaign for that team so we don't need to book in it with another stanley
cup story um so i try to curate them as best as i can knowing that as the author i have a little
bit of creative license so you're going to have a story in there about when uh when eric cole
high-fived a ref after he scored that goal you know it's maybe not like a footnote in franchise
history but like that's a pretty fun story oh yeah that's going in there jeff petrie's bloodshot eyes
in the 2021 playoffs like that's a story because those are terrifying so like you can take those
liberties and it may not be the most important thing that happened that day but it's pretty
unique or it's pretty hilarious hopefully and that's that's the way i kind of tried to to
balance out the stories did casperi kapanen throwing his stick at jeff petrie make the
it's it certainly did yes
are you kidding me now is that the most embarrassing thing that that happened to
the toronto maple leaves against the montreal canadians that makes the book or is there
something you would rate higher no i think it's that one for sure and i mean uh i think early on
that was an easy one i remember like somebody mentioned to me because i think i crowdsourced
like what should be in this book that and somebody mentioned that on on twitter i'm like absolutely
i'm putting that in there so i didn't i didn't exactly say what max domey said but uh anyone
that knows that moment knows exactly what he said so you don't need to be a lip reader for that i
think i gotta ask this on behalf of somebody who works at the network did halak spring make the oh
yes there were several several halak stories because at the time uh he was the best goaltender
on the planet in that moment in the playoffs right and so i i remember that run because i was actually
going to montreal for a conference at that time and just thinking like this is incredible like
who would have thought this would happen there's some stories in there about how even after that
run and they traded Halak you know there was some dissension among the fans that thought maybe they
traded the wrong goalie obviously that group was proved uh incorrect over the passage of time but
he played so well in that spring that you could have made the case that like yeah like what are
we doing right so dove into that a little bit but certainly his his otherworldly play in that run
had to be in there what about Jose Theodore dating Paris Hilton that that did not that did not make
look it up yeah he also it's very 2005 make the book because first off that's huge that's like
the biggest news out there little little reality tv a little uh hockey crossover you need to look
up the picture of them i think they were like the mvas and he has the most early 2000 sunglasses on
you've ever seen in your life you know what i'm talking about mike right oh yeah yeah so yeah no
that's that's a thing that happened who what player stood out to you as a hey what are you
doing here uh player in your book like just someone you didn't expect to come across in
your research uh there was there was like quite a few players like that to be honest um one guy
that i'll mention and because it's probably a player that not a lot of people have heard about
was uh bob perot and he was a goalie and he played uh he played i think only a few games for the
canadians in 1955 his first game with the habs was a shutout but the reason why he was so interesting
to me and i had made sure i had to verify this with several different stories that the story
goes that when he was playing for the chewinigan cataracts like in the quebec uh hockey league
before he went to montreal he was a pretty colorful guy and i guess for one game he came out and as he
skated towards his net he was wearing a straw hat he had a cigar in his mouth and he was he had a
pet monkey on a chain wow yeah yeah so then he then put the monkey on his net as if he was going
to play the game as if this is a normal thing that's happening the ref obviously quickly said
no way that this is happening so yeah this this monkey he bought in florida his name was chief
uh he obviously had to bring chief back to the dressing room had to ditch the straw hat had to
ditch the cigar um so a real monkey a real monkey yeah man mike this is why your books are awesome
i don't know what we i don't know what we were doing in the quebec hockey league in the 1950s
but apparently bob perot was uh he was up to he was up to some monkey business at that time now
as any guy who pumps out books the way you do we were talking about this last episode
uh on our show like and i wasn't meaning this as an insult no i'd die but but steve steve this is
not what steve does it's a side thing for him for you it's also a side thing but you do this every
year and and so you've created a franchise this is the first time that we've stepped outside of
the leafs realm with this particular one you are also working on another book presumably for next
year what team is it mike so it's uh like to continue torturing myself i've done i'm doing
bruins 365 as we speak his tomato tomato yeah bruins 365 i mean they're gonna have some insane
ones they are yeah utah might be difficult but well he can here's the thing you'll get there
eventually if he releases one of these a year teams like vegas and utah he can do in like year
25 yeah yeah celebrating your cracking 365 comes out in like 2050 yeah yeah i'll be i'll be
retirement age by the time we're writing those ones but uh california seals 365 but like it but
like a true hockey person you're going to be working in your 80s because nobody stops mike
uh again the book is called uh habs 365 stories from the ice daily story excuse me from the ice
uh mike camito a now yearly guest because he's always got a book coming out uh mike thank you
so much for all your hard work and obviously thanks for coming
on, buddy. It's great to see you. Oh, thanks
guys. Appreciate it, as always.
