at the show afterwards which is going to be super fun who made a promo video for the event i know
We should play that.
Let's play that on Friday.
Yeah.
That's cool.
Let's do that.
Guys, before we really get into anything that's like real serious news, there is one thing
I'd like to acknowledge.
What's that?
Is that yesterday, somehow, someway, Sidney Crosby coming to Toronto made its way into
the Toronto news site.
Oh, no.
It started with a hockey news article.
Okay.
I'm not going to spend a ton of time on this.
Started with a hockey news article, which then made its way across the internet.
and then this morning I'm running the board
for my mom's morning show
because they're in Barbados right now.
So was I.
And she's like, I don't have anybody to run the board.
And I was like, okay, fine.
And I see not only handsome Chris Johnson
on Insider Trading four different times on mute,
but Brian Hayes was on with Jay Onright
and he's talking about,
would Crosby be a good fit in Toronto?
As if that's a question.
And what does the package look like?
and i just say listen i know pens fans i've been hard on you but i am really going to enjoy this
one i know he's going to colorado if he goes anywhere i know but can i enjoy this no why
can't i enjoy this i just i won't even let my mind drift there he's not coming here he's going to
colorado if he's going anywhere he's going to colorado but like he's probably not going anywhere
he's probably not also please give credit to the correct people uh overdrive is the one who started
this i thought it was hockey news the hockey news uh they reference overdrive oh one of those yeah
yeah no overdrive got this jeff and and all of them got this started my wife calls him she's
like you know the jeff dog i'm like you mean the o-dog the jeff dog haze and mclennan and
the o-dog they all got this started i listen dog i want to say and uh and pasta his co-host i
respect this so much noodles yeah i i i respect the hustle i love it and i hope that this that
this um this ping pong ball that they've created never loses momentum and that it just pings around
the room like a stray bullet doesn't hit anyone doesn't stop just keeps going until crosby
inevitably says um i'm staying here for the rest of my career can you all shut up oh god he's not
saying that well if he meant it he would have said it already is asked is anyone asking him
though i don't think anyone's asking no no and well they haven't yet oh stop it they will do
you think you think they won't people are saying you got to ask the question you're hearing it
more and more ah that's some of those are my favorite get out of it prepositions like
yeah people have been saying you're hearing it more and more yeah there are rumblings you know
chatter's picking up there's no question let's talk about what really matters though uh i i
thought this wasn't happening tonight but jesse and steve and especially jesse who would know
is correcting me austin matthews is very likely playing tonight well i know i heard from jesse
well so so i mean he did he did his interview he didn't want to talk about the uh the whatever he
got done remember he was like he was not like cagey about it he's like guys i'm not talking
about it was a direct flight he said yeah but um i mean this guy coming back for a game like this
i kind of question not because i don't love austin matthews and listen not because their
next game is any easier it's against tampa but the florida panthers top in the division the
leafs have won four straight the panthers have lost four straight paul maurice dropped 15 f
bombs in one sentence apparently yesterday at morning skate no one's happy no one's happy no
one no one the league's happy the league has like seven happy teams out of 32 i'm just wondering
like the leafs have a vibe right now and it's scrappy and my concern is we're going to put
matthews back in this lineup and mitch is going to stop shooting and i just need for that not to
happen against the panthers that to me is a much more legitimate concern than putting him in the
lineup against the panthers and hoping he doesn't get hurt which is where i thought you were going
no i wasn't no uh just because it's the nhl there's nowhere to hide like the utah game got
chippy um i'll throw him in throw him in see if he swims hey he's also you're not gonna keep a
healthy austin matthews out of the lineup i think that'd be that'd be a ridiculous mentality because
it's you have no players on tuesday uh yesterday they they practiced here before they flew out so
yesterday they're at for performance and matthews was on the i think technical technically second
line uh with holmberg and nylander and then tavarez and marner on the first line with uh mcmahon
so i assume maybe they'll they'll have those same lines tonight but they're practicing this morning
in florida so like during our recording we're gonna get those line rushes um but brube said
yesterday that it's matthews is progressing the right way he wouldn't say definitively or not
whether you'd play and that it'll be up to him tomorrow so it'll be up to matthews tomorrow
whether today which is today whether he wants to go and i assume that a healthy austin matthews
will not keep himself out of the lineup um i i know this isn't the big story like this isn't
what to get caught up it's not the bed mgm big story no no that's monday but no uh justin bourne
i thought had a great point he's like dude you're missing six forwards and you put pontus holmberg
next to austin matthews yeah like just trade robertson for a third and be done with it which
we're going down that i mean that's what he said that's what he said and that's what justin
bourne said that's what justin bourne said and i'm looking at it and just going oh shit he's got
a point no i don't want i don't know he does because here's the thing who's if if it's so
would it be are you talking like marner matthews robertson yes no uh no um because marner they
Martyrs with Tavares.
Yeah, so this is the thing.
No, it's Nylander.
Nylander, Matthews, Holmberg.
Okay, so my question was going to be who would set who up,
because it's not like Robertson's going to generate.
He's going to finish.
He's not generating, right?
He's not driving.
You'd hope so.
And Matthews already finished it.
I don't know.
That lie doesn't scream success to me.
Robertson, Matthews, Nylander.
I mean, neither of them do, and I guess that's the problem.
Although, you know what's crazy, though, is there's a greater...
Oh, I got to interrupt you.
Some guy named Chris Johnston.
Who?
Reporter Chris.
Who the hell is that?
I don't know.
Has tweeted, it doesn't sound like Austin Matthews is quite ready to return to the Leafs lineup.
Hey, oh, there you go.
Still needs a few more skates to get back up to speed.
Saturday's game in Tampa remains a possibility.
Well, guys, I guess I was going on.
Well, he probably is just a little out of shape.
I think what's going on is the thing that Adam just said.
No.
Is that he needs a few more skates to get going.
this began with him being day-to-day this began with him being day-to-day yeah yeah that's but
yeah but i don't think i don't think it's the i don't think that's the issue now i think he said
it in the interview if you saw the the scrum yesterday he said were you there for that by
the way no you weren't for that no no not for the awesome he said listen um i it's going to take me
a bit to get back up to pace here because like i remember john tavaris at the beginning of the
season he got sick and then was bad for two weeks yes and that has been the greatest version of john
tavares we've ever seen since right so matthews is trying to come back and be like good not just
a jersey and he's gotta he wasn't skating he was doing other things we know they can survive
without him yeah and and i this is for this which is for me what i think is so opportunistic about
this game like um i think this game is it's very clearly their biggest test today we're 25 of the
way through the season or more you need to have a good effort tonight you need to have guts tonight
and i thought marner uh and nylander and some of the other guys had a really gutsy effort this
weekend oh yeah like really gutsy and i want to see what this team looks like without austin
matthews going up against the team that they're fighting for the division title and really right
now whoever wins this game is going to be leading the division i think that matters and i oh my god
i want to see these guys because remember everybody's the whole thing on mitch is like
oh man he's playing great hockey but wait till april and i get that to an extent although the
guy does have there are there are moments of mitch martyr being an absolute animal in the playoffs
i'm thinking specifically about game three against boston bruins and i was there it was 2019 and it
was the spring and he he stopped that shot like off his face right at the you guys know what i'm
talking about right and he was like he was an absolute fucking monster there's there's people
who hate marner no matter what there's people who defend him no matter what and then there's normal
tolerable people right um so i'd be i want to be somewhere in the middle here yeah but this
him coming out and being gutsy nylander who is clearly gutsy but people still don't want to give
him his flowers on that i want to i want to give them the opportunity to go yeah we can fucking do
this is a confidence booster game and a challenge yes and it's a confidence booster game in november
and then you know stop watching like dude it matters for end of november it matters and it's
an important game uh marner is playing like a probably a top 10 mvp candidate right now
because that's all the games that have been played actually right so you can't be like
where's it going to be in February I don't know well where was this energy in the summer
well it was sad because they were out again you know and well it's you know it's not the playoffs
yeah I know so we should all stop talking about it what we got in front of us is a Leaf team
way overachieving what they ought to be and it's been really really fun to watch and they're made
of tougher stuff than we thought they were and maybe they're learning that they're made of
tougher stuff than they thought they would how do you not feel awesome about yourself as a leaf
right now you should you definitely should 100 and the guys who aren't feeling off uh awesome
about themselves are fighting for their nhl careers right now like i every game from alex
steves has to be the best of his life every game from nick robertson has to be the best of his life
pontus holmberg's not exactly fighting for his spot in the lineup you're you you have a golden
ticket even though you're not playing with matthews tonight you're pretty consistently
playing with nylander so you're doing some things that are earning you that spot like it's
you should expect the best from these guys every time they take the ice they haven't had a
oh no oh steven now you got to finish the sentence you stupid idiot they haven't had a stinker in a
while jesse steve are you concerned that for 24 hours the leafs gave the indication that matthews
would play today and then now he's out and the day-to-day thing or the week-to-week thing has
turned into the day-to-day injury has turned into week-to-week which is now running on a month and a
half yes is this all concern you yes why because uh they okay a day-to-day injury turned into i'm
flying to europe to work with a vampire or something and i'm gonna come back and i'm gonna
talk and i'm gonna skate and i'm still not gonna be ready and like listen i'm sure they're ultimately
doing the right thing but healthy players don't miss this many games the man's not okay and he's
more not okay than they previously let on otherwise he'd be back in the lineup or they or they they
started winning and it was like okay this could linger all season or we can fix it over three or
four weeks in november and the team keeps winning and we've got two good goaltenders and the rest of
the guys are going to get a shot so reverse and reverse their record then like they're well then
he's he's playing you think i think that's like it's just terrible logic though like i why is it
terrible logic to hold out a star player to make sure that they're healthy for the room no no no
no that's good logic okay bad logic is our star players hurt play them anyway that is the nhl
come on guys you guys know that so you think this is just them being overcocks absolutely so you're
taking their word for it 100 and the timeline for this is that it's uh it was a lingering issue in
a preseason he starts the season he's like okay it's still kind of lingering i want to get this
fixed and then they they pull him from the lineup and then all that the other stuff unfolded so is
your concern that it's a longer term issue and that there's something wrong with our favorite
star boy not necessarily longer term just more serious right like every player has stuff they
maintain like i'm trying to figure out how hurt is this guy because he was playing all right
but it was just all right it was all right and then it dipped his goal scoring kind of evaporated
well it started with him getting chances and they weren't going in yeah then the chances dried up
then the games played dried up then he left the continent then he returned and is still not
playing and the only reason we're not losing our minds about it is because they're fine so back to
back to the question is concerned that it's a long-term thing or a short-term very bad injury
I wish they would I wish I knew you know what I mean like my my guess is if it's something that
he hurt in the preseason and he tried to play through it my guess is this is something he's
had before and he's like I've you know I've seen this before let me just uh deal with it let me
maintain it the way i have been and either he or someone with the team is like no no no let's get
this fixed yeah well so we don't know but here's the here's the issue for me is that if if he was
that injured and that comes out then they've blown their credibility to bits and no one's
going to believe them in an injury again i do not believe that the leafs would be like oh no
oh, Matthews is fine and we'll be able to hide it for eight weeks
if he's devastatingly injured.
Do you know what I'm saying?
Like, I think that they legitimately thought,
oh, a couple games, oh, a couple more games.
Okay, well, it hasn't fixed.
Now we got to do something about it.
Climb to Germany.
In the NHL, they do have the right to hide something like that.
Sure.
Like, I don't think they lose any credibility
because NHL, you don't have to disclose anything about an injury.
They can say he'll be back next game
and then he's actually going to be out for six months.
like they they can just say it's an upper body injury a lower body injury and just that's it
move on so you might know this okay he's on ir uh yeah they could but they can activate him at
any moment now right yeah how when would he be able to return if they put him on ltir retroactive
to when they held him out because it like is that what's going on now retroactive i think it would
have been over 10 games 28 days by now right oh yeah i don't know if it would meet the 10 games
threshold because they've barely played well hold on the leafs right also i don't i don't know if
the kidney can you do that sure you can you can do retroactive yeah retroactive to when he was
i think it'd be i don't know just you could probably you can do it retroactive because
like you don't know what a player's timeline so the leafs have played uh matthew's played 13
in the Leafs to play 21, so they've played 8 without him.
So he's missed 7.
Yes.
Wait, he's played 13, they've played 21?
Sorry, they've played 8 without him.
So they sit him out the rest of
this week. Could they not
retroactively put him on LTIR
and then immediately activate him?
Yes, but they have so much money on LTIR,
I'm not sure it matters.
What would be the point of this?
I don't know.
Cap finagling?
What are you asking?
Cap finagling?
For what purpose?
cap room for what players to make your team better what oh no like you need more cap space
at the deadline i don't know you don't accrue you actually you don't do worse it gets worse
he has if he's on lti or then you're not accruing so they don't want him to be yeah exactly yeah
because they actually have room in between right now i'm failing to understand the point of doing
yeah because lti i don't know i'm trying to figure out what the hell's going on steve could
be forgiven i think because if you have a team that's regularly under the cap and the leafs
never have been because Dubas likes to max out his cap before the season starts then call up an
emergency college backup so he can sign Matthew Nyes um you know we haven't had a situation here
where Toronto's ever accrued cap space and that goes all the way back to like David Clarkson's
contract being traded for Nathan Horton's contract and so you are able to buy into the LTIR space
but you really want to accrue cap space because LTIR space is limited cap space can be
it's yeah the best thing for your for your team to do is be under ltir and the least right now
are into ltir um because of all of their injuries it's bad like they don't want that they're not in
a good position they're not happy about it they're not happy now let me run you through some of the
power play lines because this is going to be interesting uh riley riley william kneelander
marner alex kneelander and tavaris on the first kneelanders or sorry alex kneelander is on power
play one because fraser mitten's been moved to power play two with oel on pp1 on saturday or on
sunday he's a really good power play player i think if you're gonna have him up you should
oh sorry no it was he was out with neilander but technically it was pp2 because i think because
neilander just stayed out yeah they double shifted oel timmons robertson mitten mcmahon
and people are saying already well shouldn't robertson get that pp1 spot and i'm like yo
honestly uh to be on pp1 you should have to convert well and and and it's not like he's
not getting power play time but what snake bitten or not you got the puck has to go in
right so okay here's what i'm trying to figure out so you got riley quarterback
nylander left side marner right side i mean they do alternate and alex nylander high and
tavaris low so that's that's my assumption yeah that's what i would imagine the way they're
playing it like in front of the net yeah and alex nylander's taller than willie and and has a great
shot and i mean willie could even be in that spot and and alex could be where willie used to be i
don't know i think he's gonna i think alex benefits more from being closer to the net
and that's where willie scored most of his goals up until recently i just a lot of the noise he
made in columbus last year was from a little further out i don't know right it's uh i mean
they can move around that's the nice thing about skates as they move you they do they do uh so
anyway it should be a fascinating game as i said paul maurice is not thrilled with his team
um and this is if you remember in 2022 or 2023 2023 uh the panthers rolled in toronto
and keith kachuk called the team soft on toronto radio and that night they kicked toronto's ass
and then went on to the Stanley Cup Finals.
If the Panthers lose this game,
I'm putting five bucks on them to win the Cup.
Really?
Yeah.
See, I would have thought if they would want
to use the Leafs game as a turnaround game.
No.
Well, okay.
Hmm.
Hmm.
Hmm.
That's a tough one.
Either way, I hate that it worked out this way.
Right.
I really do.
Like, I never like when a narrative-heavy team
rolls into Toronto
because i'm sure that goes into it yes i'm sure they look at it like this is our chance to change
the story absolutely i mean the difference is no one's looking at the panthers and going yeah they
suck no true they're crazy good they are crazy good but i i do i look at that in a in a in a
thing of of like toronto used to be the team that if you wanted your slump busted even though they
were a good team that's what made it feel so good is you could physically run them over and then
you'd beat them and they wouldn't care too much and you got your win and but i don't think that
that's this team i hope stoli the goalie has a great game me too he said it's just like any other
game do we believe shut them they see he's getting a ring tonight right uh him and lorenz they already
got it lorenz and oel they got them already yeah they already got them what they what do you mean
they were given them this morning oh this morning okay but like i assume they'll have like something
on ice to thank them i hope so that's it's in toronto though isn't it no no they're in florida
Oh, I thought they were in Toronto.
Yeah, baby.
No, we talked about how they traveled and all that stuff.
Oh, my bad.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sorry, sorry.
No, you're right.
My bad, my bad.
No, they're in Florida.
A couple other things about the injury stuff,
because that's just the whole news.
Domi is the one who I think has been so much more injured
than we all know.
Oh, yeah.
Dude, that guy played some of the worst hockey of his life
for like a month.
Yeah.
And it's like heart and soul.
like no one should hold it against domi that he was and has been brutal he started the season
like leading the league in primary assists and then died yeah and he has zero goals on the on
the season so far and um he didn't even travel with the team so he's gonna be out these two
games at least no he's broken and then so i thought that was just fascinating that like they
they tried to get him to play through all of that because they refused to call up the kids
and then now they call up the kids and they're like oh everything's still fine and they're winning
mitten wasn't even an option at the time yeah right he was still injured but like you can still
find anybody besides half broken max domey or fully broken max domey so it's good that they're
just giving him the time off here um matthew nize was skating around which was fun to see
uh dakota murmis who broke his jaw or had jaw surgery sorry i saw him on the i was at the
morning skate on sunday he was out there before everybody which is fun he had the big bubble cage
on yeah which i'm sure is going to drive him absolutely insane the entire time he uses it
yeah but he's on ltir so they gotta activate him at some point if they want to play him
well he's on ltir conditioning loan yes right now just like hawk and paw was and doer was
jesus this is the leafs haven't been this banged up in a long time no and hawk and paw was also
out there on sunday and he's been given so much time off because he's coming back from all of
that and they don't want to play him too much right he's maintaining all that injuries and
And Steve, I feel like you are very fair in your right of being concerned about Matthews.
I feel like as any fan of any team, if your superstar player is out for a month and a half
through mysterious injuries and they're flying around the world,
you can be concerned as a fan.
That's fair.
I mean, oh yeah, Max Domi, he's in Berlin right now.
Like, no, we didn't hear any of that.
And this is anecdotal, but I got a message because I was like,
Blues fans, what is Craig Berube's temperature on 11.7?
And apparently he went to it quite often in St. Louis.
I am taking the word of one Instagram DM.
But it's, again, something that I think the Leafs should look at as an option.
Fart boring.
It is fart boring.
They have eight quality NHL defensemen.
You don't even need to use Hockenpah.
You can put Myers in there.
Yeah.
why don't you just do why don't you do um seven eight not seven eight sorry sorry
why don't we do a ten eight why not they could all right now i'd love to see it sometimes life

dangle uh okay there's something i want to show you and i want to make it about the leafs is it
your butt now jesse i've sent you two videos the first one i've sent is from nhl.com and it has to
do with a play with one timo meyer now jess or steve for people who may not be familiar with
timo meyer's game what what is what is timo meyer's game oh man he's so swiss he's super
But he's not Swiss.
That's the weird thing.
No, he's a...
Is he not Swiss?
No, he's Swiss, but he doesn't play Swiss.
You know what I'm saying?
Well, what is Swiss?
Well, it's a neutral country.
He doesn't play that way.
Oh.
You see what I'm saying?
Oh, no.
He's an aggressor.
Yes.
He's a big player, likes to use his body to score goals.
Right.
And has scored a bunch, thank praise be, because he's on my fantasy team.
Both of them.
Devils are scoring a lot of goals.
They sure are.
Sheldon Keefe.
Jack Hughes, Timo Mayer.
I've got another one.
Jesper brought, too.
It's been beautiful.
It's been super hot.
I always thought he would be a good fit there.
And it's funny.
They switch out the coach and whatever.
Now, Timo Meier got into a pretty nasty little spat on Monday night.
I don't know if you saw this.
Did you see it?
No.
I knew he was suspended.
I thought my good friend Adam Wilde would bring it up on the show.
So he got a game.
And, Jesse, if you can put it forward.
Now, you can see what he's about to do.
Okay.
Is there any way to free it?
So that looks like it's going to be pretty bad.
And then watch.
yeah okay now against uh alan walsh client zach laroe right which might explain why you only got
one game that's a pretty rough cross check it's very bad what is it right larue he was on he was
on his own agent oh my bad i pronounced it wrong um okay now jesse i sent you a second video it's
a good song and okay and maddie iso me for a second i want to take this timo meyer suspension
and i want to make it about the leafs i knew it i want to make it about the leafs
now you're probably asking yourself but adam how could you possibly make it about the leafs
you couldn't possibly talk you could be talking about morgan riley could you
could you i'm not talking about morgan riley i'm not talking about morgan riley who was the last
guy that was suspended before mortimer i don't even know do you know uh well i saw a spoiler
on jesse's screen you want to bring it up austin matthews we were there for this game now austin
matthews cross-checks rasmus dalene in the face and by the way it's bad it it was they even
mentioned this in the video it was meant for his shoulder it rode up and it hit him in the face and
it's bad and he got suspended wait the matthews one the matthews one okay timo meyer didn't try
to cross to hit anybody anywhere other than the head timo meyer got one game i i guess
the argument would be larue was coming toward meyer whereas matthews and doleen were standing
stationary and matthews just they were gooned him meyer and uh and larue were tied up already
Timo Meier had already cross-checked him in the ribcage
before the cross-check to the face.
So no.
So in the video then, since the NHL has set a little standard
that we like to explain things, especially to dumb little Leaf fans, right?
Eyebrows.
Why is this one and another is two?
And this is how we make it about the Leafs.
Why is it one?
Standards are good.
I'm open to this being one.
And I'm not even saying that Matthews should have been two
or shouldn't have been two.
It was a bad cross-check.
But I'm just asking,
what is the standard for beaning a guy in the head
with a piece of carbon fiber?
Is it too much to ask?
They should actually put that in the NHL players.
Beaned him in the head with carbon fiber.
Not allowed.
Can't do that.
That's funny.
Make that fun.
Yes.
Jesse?
This is beaning.
Do you see any difference if this is beaning?
do you see any difference between those two plays that would lead you to believe one game
there's a one game difference between the two of them uh we could go back and watch the department
of player safety videos if you really want to do that and find out their explanations for both
because they released videos for both of them explaining why each is there's not like we don't
even have to ask the question they explain it to us do you want to come ask me i would do it
i would do it you want to do it how long is this gonna take i don't know we'll have to look it up
have to find it i'll play the first one no we can listen to it because we can't play it right
yeah yeah listen to the audio okay you guys are gonna have to talk no jesse wants us to talk
okay fine uh you know i am curious to hear how this is done well and this was sent to me by
somebody who who thought this is worth bringing up i can't imagine who that would be to say
all right here's the department of the prep here was it sent by a team i'm not gonna tell you
anything here's the department of player safety's explanation on the timo meyer suspension
monday night new jersey devils forward timo meyer was assessed a major penalty and a game
misconduct for forcefully cross-checking predators forward zachary larue in the face at a stoppage
in play it's a monster it's a pretty as the video shows the puck is frozen by the predator's
goaltender for a whistle as larue pushes meyer away from the net front after the shove larue
didn't do meyer delivers a cross check to larue's chest in response then after this initial cross
check meyer draws his stick back again with both hands and delivers a second two-handed blow with
his stick that makes direct contact with larue's head causing him to fall to the ice this is cross
check it's pretty similar to matthews it is important to note that meyer is in control of
this play at all times and is attempting to deliver a second cross check to an opponent
after the whistle this is not a case in which two players are mutually engaged with their sticks up
high nor is it a case in which the blow rides up a player's body before making contact with the head
players are responsible for their stick at all times and are not excused from their actions
just because a blow lands in an unintended place
on the opponent or with unintended force.
This remains a high cross-check
delivered after the whistle is blown
that makes direct contact with an opponent's head
with sufficient force to merit supplemental discipline.
Yes, man.
To summarize, this is cross-checking.
Yeah!
Meyer has been fined once during his 565-game NHL career.
Which is amazing.
The Department of History did not know that.
You gotta switch off.
There you go.
player safety has suspended timo meyer for one game all right so he looks like jacks from vanderpump
rules i just want to yeah just a little bit anyway he does he does have a little bit of a jack's look
yeah the square jaw yeah and also uh the psychotic eyes yeah what are you up to by the way there was
like a whole storyline in vanderpump where jacks was going to go leave the show and work for the
tampa bay lightning because he's a big hockey fan what yeah he had a friend there he apparently was
gonna work and he was gonna leave his girlfriend the whole big story should we not do that well
that was that was like years ago though okay by the way they're replacing the entire cast did you
hear that i did hear that my wife is very upset i'm upset too i'm invested in these people i guess
some of them are joining the valley i don't think they care for each other yeah i don't give you
that i don't think they like each other i don't care it's my entertainment i don't think they
like each other's company anymore uh so jesse is now trying to locate the matthews uh suspension
video for when he cross-checked rasmus but we we showed you i showed you and so they said this
isn't even a case of where the stick rides up yeah so i was wrong they referenced that larue is not
skating towards him they are standing and engaged eye to eye yeah and and and the announcer guy
whoever he's clearly from new york and they are somewhat jousting ish right but you're not allowed
to do that you're not allowed to cross check a guy in the fudge yeah this is beaning this
is guillotine this i just i'm i'm curious to hear what they said back then because if we're setting
standards now let's set some standards for being in guys in the head when you're face to face with
them shall we now here's my here's what i would say to myself if i was you know that's you know
that really funny youtube video where it's skip bayless arguing with skip bayless yes if it was
adam wilde arguing with adam wilde adam wilde the other one would say adam rasmus dahlin was not eye
to eye with that matthews he was turned to the side hence it rode up the shoulder but i would
say to that adam i'd say adam wilde that's true but it also rode up the shoulder then blunted the
force of the cross check slowing you down whereas in timo meyer's case there's nothing but air
preventing that and uh darlene matthews was during play this was after the yes with uh with
meyer i honestly i honestly think just based on how this is going that adam's got a great case
here about hey why was this two and that's one but we'll listen to the department of player
safety's reasons on why matthews got two games also twitter search is just fucking broken it's
awful it's the whole goddamn website it's the worst if you if you search if you search the
at handle plus austin matthews you don't get all the results but i just did it in google and the
tweet comes out so just i'm not on twitter because i think it's good yeah i'm on it because i've been
there forever and i have a following like what it's okay man it fucking sucks we know blue sky
Steve Dangle 20.
Yeah.
He saved me from this hell.
Yeah, Elon needs to fix that search function.
Google's much better than their own search.
Anyways, here we go.
Fuck off.
Sunday evening in Hamilton, Ontario, Maple Leafs forward Austin Matthews was penalized
for cross-checking Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.
As the video shows, Matthews and Dahlin engage in a battle for position in front of the net.
The battle escalates, with Matthews using his stick to shove Darlene, and Darlene shoving Matthews to the ice in return.
Matthews then gets back to his feet, approaches Darlene, draws his stick back with both hands, rises up, and strikes Darlene with force in the neck.
This is cross-checking.
While we acknowledge Matthews' argument that this is not a cross-check meant to harm or injure his opponent,
It is also not a routine motion to box out an opponent or to gain body position.
It's bad.
Having just been involved in a shoving match with Darlene that knocked him into the net,
Matthews aggressively retaliates by raising his stick significantly and creating this contact.
This is a high, forceful cross-check that makes contact with an opponent's neck
with sufficient force to merit supplemental discipline.
To summarize, this is cross-checking.
It's so much shorter.
matthews has been neither fined nor suspended previously in his 390 game nhl career the
department of player safety has suspended austin matthews for two games now let me say you know
it's how he sounds surprised there he's like has suspended two austin matthews for two games now
i want to say this i want to say this what this is not a debate about whether they're bad
so they're both bad because you're saying in the video it's like well it's that is bad
and and and to your point yes both are suspendable plays my question is what's the one game difference
i'll tell you what it is it's the retaliation the retaliation implies intent so they're what
but zachary larue started it with timo meyer yeah but that's what do you think timo meyer have you
played that play it for him again that's not we know no we know no no i they steven i adam listen
we know we know we know he's disagreeing with you we you know they so i guess the nhl's view of this
and they wouldn't put this language into a video but i wish they would just be honest
i think they view the altercation between meyer and larue as run of the mill and matthews and
Darlene they view as more heated than is normal and when Matthews cross-checked Darlene it was
with retaliate retaliatory intent whereas Meyer and LaRue was spur of the moment it's the difference
between like I guess first and second degree you know what I mean um Matthews I'm sure I'm
screwing that up but matthews retaliated he which oh i didn't mean to and the nhl is going yeah
we don't believe you and meyer just happened to cross check larue in the face it might be
semantics and it might not matter because the acts are near identical right but what the nhl
is penalizing matthews double four is the intent but here's the problem is the context of the
action for matthews earned him the extra game so here's here's where i disagree because larue
meyer cross-checks larue larue twice and back twice and then meyer cross-checks him in the face
is that not retaliation you're escalating something and and it's not you're just not
escalating it you're finishing it oh yeah what you being a guy in the head it's kind of over
i am after disagreeing with you i am agreeing with that point so it's not even disagreeing
with you it's just i'm trying to differentiate right i'm pointing out their logic yeah and i
understand their logic but your logic is the acts are the intent is the same i can't imagine
that they're that different the intent is the same it's just matthews was angrier and if sure
and if you're looking for if you're looking for apples to apples comparisons on a play you'll
rarely find it no it's but i but i would say that these that's about as close as you can get i will
entertain the argument that matthews was more aggressive with his cross check to the cross
check to the face because of what happened with dalene beforehand and that's why he got the extra
game but the actions are the exact same hey since we know they listen here's one way to improve your
player safety videos use past examples use past and and you could even say the reason this is
one game because everyone accuses the department of player safety of handing these things out
willy-nilly right yes but one thing we could be decently sure of a few years ago is kneeing is
two games until it was six until it was oh fuck any yeah with no prior history kneeing was two
games what knee on knee yeah yeah not knee not knee on head head yeah um knee on knee was two
games um hey this is one game for cross-checking not the end of the video this is the remix
here are other examples of cross-checking high being a one game suspension here is an example
of it being two and here is the difference now that's way above and beyond what they need to do
and i think it's naive to expect them to do that but man it'd be helpful it'd be nice
and again it involves the leafs and what are we going to do cater all our damn video production
to the lee all right i suppose i understand your point but there is going to come a time
where the whambulance is going to come for you
and it ain't going to be us.
There's going to be a time
where people are whining about a suspension
and the mysterious amount of games
and it's not going to be the Leafs, right?
Haven't you ever noticed
that every time there's a goaltender interference called
or not called, Oilers fans pipe up.
Everyone has their thing.
i'm just saying it it would be very helpful i honestly think that
they probably should have given uh myer two games oh shit jesse what is this i'm not getting there
yet um i think the the context of the hit like i feel i feel like the the point you brought up is
very valid and how they looked at it i think it's the incorrect way to look at it like i'll listen
to their argument that yeah matthews is more aggressive and all i think they they have the
wrong way of looking at the rule like i think they should have looked at it as like at the end
of the day these actions are the same and they they got this but they brought out the deserve
to angriometer and yeah exactly you shouldn't take that into account here but do you hear what i'm
doing i'm extrapolating oh yeah oh yeah no that's why i thought it was a very good point because
you're explaining their logic behind it which is the thing they should be doing but i'm just
guessing right i'm guessing the logic based on the language yeah um are you bringing that up
yeah that's what on screen because jesse what would you like to do yeah what would you like
where would you like uh so this hit is from for everybody listening today the dan o'chara
cross-checking brendan gallagher this happened in february of 2020 so we're talking about four
years ago um quite a while away from the one that happened with timo meyer two years before the one
that happened with austin matthews the front row of fans is hilarious yeah the reactions from the
fans is crazy um so we're talking about a little bit of a different maybe mentality from the
department of player safety but still similar regime because it wasn't too long ago this cross
check to the neck of Gallagher
that just took him completely
out. Can I guess?
It got a $5,000 fine.
I knew it!
It got a $5,000
fine by the Department of Player Safety.
Because he's tall. Because it's Chara and he's tall.
Because they like Chara and hate Gallagher.
They hate Brendan Gallagher.
If we want to talk about
no consistency,
yeah, they lack consistency.
That's hilarious. That's
unjustifiable. I'm sorry.
so there's a two game difference between what fuck off like yeah i i honestly don't think that
matthews did two games worth more damage to dolly and all right char did to gallagher here that's
that's they're they're bad at their their gig no now now let's here let me let me put on
my uh new jersey new hat i'm a devil's fan now okay why was meyer suspended one game
when chara got when chara got fuck all yeah because chara's taller that's what people will
say yeah oh he's taller so it's hard as if punching down is that's unjustifiable no it's
unjust like i don't i'm not gonna guess chara's brain here but i think he's aiming for gallagher's
head guess what's going on in chara's brain like what's always going on in chara's brain the
consumption of human flesh are you kidding i think char did exactly what he wanted to in this
situation and it was decapitate brendan gallagher he got nothing and he got 5k and because it was a
5k fine there is no explanation video that goes along with it so the department of player safety
is not beholden to whatever they said for why they gave him that fine there is not a two game
difference between the incidents no no that's a joke no it's a joke at the end of the day that's
uh and i don't think there's a one game difference between the incidents right all three of those
plays are very similar
in nature, and they all
have different results.
Adam, you're on to something with this.
Yeah, and good on you
for bringing up a non-leaf example.
Yes, thank you, Jesse.
This is Besser Jeannot. Jesse completed
it. So if you want to, I don't know, maybe
they make the argument it hits him in the neck
and not the face, but get
out of here. Oh yeah, that's better.
Yeah, like, no, no,
just take it out of his windpipes better than his
head. Like, what? You don't need that.
That can't have felt good the next day.
You imagine waking up and sleeping on that?
The way his neck snaps.
Oh, my God.
There are certain players in the NHL that you can tell the league favors.
Jamie Benn.
And there are certain players you can tell the NHL Department of Player Safety
and all departments of the NHL fucking hate Brendan Gowling.
Marks of them.
They hate this.
no that's just uh hockey all-famer colin campbell right who was the head of department of player
safety and wrote it down in an email isn't that crazy that's so weird how would he write it's
such a ridiculous garbage decision he's a little faker um no like gallagher because i mean he talks
a lot he's he's he's michael bunting with a better profile like he um and better facial hair well
like because he'll get a goaltender interference called back and there was one i remember in
particular where he ranted after the game he's like i like i had it was like i attended the
meetings or whatever like i watched all the video of like what is and isn't allowed i don't
understand why this goal was called back and you know you the stuff they won't put an email anymore
because colin told them not to uh they're writing it on telegram oh you know they hate his life
yeah they hate his life they can't wait till he's out of the league yep um damn adam
i didn't know where that whole discussion was going to go but like great point like what one
step forward two steps back like here's here's us explaining a decision perfectly here's one we
pulled out of our ass yep uh yeah yeah you know what i'll throw there's progress there's work to
do i'll throw another one out there sure david perron got six games for cross-checking artem
Oh, you bring up David Perron.
Whose client is that?
What other Alamos clients have been wrong?
Somebody might have tweeted that.
Six games.
Now, they're very different.
You know what?
Those are very different.
No, and William Lagg is in three games.
No, it should have been.
He gets to play an 83rd game.
It should have been he gets to play more.
Well, it is a little bit strange that Timo got one.
It is.
It's a little strange.
I think everybody has a point here.
But, you know.
Our show of three people agrees that all three of us have a point.
Yeah.
Well, and I can't take credit for this.
The person that sent it to me must, but they must remain anonymous.
Oh, yeah?
The person that sent it to me, though, was real hot and bothered about it.
How many Bruce Springsteen's?
It's not Alan.
Yeah?
It's not Alan.
It's not Alan?
Here's what I promise you.
I promise you this.
If it's Alan Walsh, and if it was ever proven to be Alan Walsh, I would have to run through
the streets naked.
Like, I swear to God, it was not Alan.
Don't threaten me with a good time.
Yeah, but Adam's like, ah, typical Friday night.
Like, what?
I will have to show you everything.
I would hate that.
Oh, no.
Adam has to just film what he does every weekend.
Only Adams.
That's my website.
Okay, let's move on to the New York Rangers.
The fallout from the Chris Drury trade memo.
Only Adams.
I feel like that would do well.
Just guys named Adam.
Only Cheeks.
Yeah, only Cheeks.
Definite Cheeks.
uh chris drury sent out a trade memo included on the trade memo a trade memo yeah it's a trade
could those go out that truba and crider are up for grabs who's who's calling it that it's
literally it was literally like in the athletic yeah who who called it uh who called it uh i'll
look at who wrote the article uh the article is arthur staple and peter boff so and they call it
a trade memo yeah so essentially what happens is they send out uh yeah league sources confirmed
a monday report from elliot freeman that chris drury sent word sorry it's not called a trade
memo in this particular thing but i have heard it referred to as that uh sent word to all 31 other
gms that the rangers are open to a trade and those sources said captain jacob truba and longest
tenured ranger chris crider were mentioned specifically by name in the league wide
missive oh shit so it's a missive let's look up synonyms for missive missive sin and
synonym i didn't expect for this to be such a thing i was just message communication letter
word note memorandum oh no oh shit it was a trade oh no anyway long story short i think it's kind
interesting now you may not realize this but chris crider is second on the team in goals
his 136 goals since the start of 21 22 are tied for ninth in the league he's tied for last
in assist he is bad he has zero zero even steven crider got the same amount of
at the nhl level this season that's actually wild how long do you think that's gonna last steve uh
like when's their next game yeah yeah not until then i've pointed it out that means it's done
yeah so so here's here's what i want to know okay i want to know who from this roster really and
truly makes sense because there are other names apparently out there and one of them that i'm
surprised is ryan lingren who is 26 who is a ufa there's two names on that list that don't make
sense well who's the other one Keandre Miller well that I I believe that was debunked I don't
think that that's oh okay well good because that makes no sense he has looked a bit soft at times
but I don't think that the Rangers are giving up on Keandre well now that we've eliminated that
name yeah Lindgren doesn't make any sense either now he they are we talked about this in our season
previews they are facing a cap crunch at the end of the year somebody's got to go Lindgren and
Truba have been paired up so it's not been Lindgren Fox and Lindgren has not looked like himself and
it's hard to know whether that's lingren or truba or fox or a mixture of all three but here are the
names from cj crider truba caco who's played well and lingren caco has played well and
i mean it's always very tough with a second overall pick like oh is he finally hitting his
stride or do we sell high um that's a guy they've been in rumors with forever so like i just ripped
the bandit off do it um and sorry who else truba crider caco lingren
uh lingren to me doesn't make any sense and if you want to win a stanley cup i don't think
crider makes any sense well that's what i thought because he's been pretty valuable like the entire
time and way outplayed his deal yes and they almost tried remember they tried to trade him
like right before covid that season like good teams i mean he's been in trade rumors a lot
over the course of his career and yeah but look how they've done keeping him though like all those
appearances in the final four i'm trying to remember if he was part of the cup final team
in 2014 um he's played a lot of stanley cup play he was he was played 13 14 oh because that was
the year he hurt price or is it 14 15 uh 13 14 okay yeah that was the year he hurt price in 123
he's played 123 playoff games that's a lot of playoff games he has 48 goals he's really really
good he's a really really good playoff performer how did he do last year though in the playoffs
yeah eight goals four assists in 16 games that's really good yeah um i just feel like
if you have aspirin they're also good by the way the rangers yeah they're not hurting but
But they're playing Carolina tonight, so it's a bit of a test.
Okay, so try and beat them, I suppose?
You know what I mean?
I just feel like you trade Chris Kreider,
you're going to spend the whole trade deadline trying to replace him.
He does, and it's interesting because the article from Staple and Baugh
kind of says, well, he makes six and a half.
Okay, that's reasonable.
That might be kind of hard to move, and I'm like, oh boy,
I think there'd be a lot of teams who would love a $6.5 million forward
word here going off of a coming off of a 39 goal season i think you're on drugs to trade this player
i don't understand they haven't been playing well that's the thing like right record sits all right
in comparison to teams who are like looking at hey we're in a playoff spot we're we're above 500
we've been winning more games than we're losing we're doing okay yeah but this team doesn't want
to be there like they want to be in the conversation of the top teams in the league
we're going for the president's trophy maybe again we're winning the division we're up there
with the devils we're gonna look like a stanley cup contender all season long and the effort that
the veteran core is giving on the ice hasn't been good enough and that's why all of this is
happening is they need some sort of shake-up to get these guys going like despite despite putting
up some decent point numbers it's about the everyday game in game out they're disappointed
with the results on the ice in terms of the from a like an effort standpoint and looking
looking like a competent stanley cup contender this feels like the sort of this feels like the
sort of situation where you lean on your coach like it sounds like the coach is not squeezing
enough out of the core you know what i mean like okay they're winning games but they're not playing
well we have all these players who we know are valuable like when they're playing their best
Lindgren is super valuable Kakko is a nice complimentary piece at this point in his career
Kreider is a ridiculous like he's still got good goal scoring totals and he's good he's one of your
most consistent playoff performers and then who am I missing from that oh Truba right Truba like
are you going to dismantle
other really good parts of your team
because you're having difficulty trading this guy
you gave trade protection to
like we're going to make
these other trades because we haven't
been able to find a suitable partner for Truba
like I don't mind them making
a move and I don't mind them
settling for not good enough
you know
they refuse to settle
for what they've gotten
I just don't
crider to me doesn't make sense lingren doesn't make sense caco go for it true but obviously go
for it right and i think a move like truba makes a lot of sense to to shake things up yeah i
ah that trade protection screws everything up because i think ottawa makes that trade immediately
i really do yeah ryan lingren also hasn't been the best uh since coming back from uh the broken
draw so well like there's there's some holes there and they're trying to fix them because
they're not happy with being complacent with where they are but to me it's like if the Leafs had
traded Tavares like after he was sick and was terrible yeah I'm not advocating for moving
Lindgren I'm advocating for the Rangers need a shake-up because they're not playing uh hockey
that's going to lead them for a deep playoff run they're playing stale now yeah um uh they did
mentioned in the in the piece that crider is second on the team with nine goals but his line
with sabina jad and riley smith has been under 50 percent yeah riley smith like i was so so hyped on
riley smith because when i when i was looking at that series against carolina and the way they were
i guess against florida and like they needed that winger they needed a good top six winner
winger and riley smith who's going to step in there and get that that sabina jad crider line
going and i thought he was going to be the last piece and he's been uh extremely disappointing
that whole line has been extremely disappointing and and he was in pittsburgh last year too
riley smith that's why they moved on from him so quickly so i i'm curious about that i wonder
if is it circumstance or is are we seeing the decline of a player who was awesome and he's 33
i hope that's not the case i'm not suggesting it is but we have to keep an eye on it after
you know 40 points in 70 games where the previous year he had 56 now the next thing i want to
mention sure i was yeah okay you guys know no i was i'm just the rangers are i'm staying on the
rangers but there's such a complicated team full of guys who can do it like zabana jad is a guy
who's been criticized a lot in recent memory for just not giving enough and i was like okay i
wonder where he sits since 2022 the last time they went to the final four i wonder where he sits
in team scoring in the playoffs and the answer is first they were in the final four last year
oh yeah you're right so two final fours in three years yeah and now he was crazy in 2022 and he's
dropped off since um crider is third oh man i don't know i don't know i think there's if you
want to if you want to ask the question about peter lavia laviolette like there's there's a
question to be had about whether he's uh getting the most out of his players i want to ask the
question i think that's that's a very fair question steve yeah i want i want to ask the
question jesse to that point about the whole thing and this is where great journalists are
are awesome right the athletic uh is subscription based so they don't have to worry so much about
seo in the same way that that other articles do and and you know so there's two different ways
of journalism happening right now and what i love about the way that the athletic is able to do it
because of the subscription model is they're able to hold back on something that would have been
sizzling for seo like just show up in the google results let's keep digging put it in an article
five months later and go and there's also this and this is one of those and they're also this
moment here's what they say uh this this trade memo is a gamble by drury as and i'm quoting
as it was when he sent barclay goudreau out the door just before the truba drama in june
goudreau's contract a six-year 3.64 million dollar deal signed by drury as one of his first access gm
was a burden but the way the rangers handled goudreau's exit did not sit well with some
teammates goudreau was informed by drury that the rangers were placing him on waivers 15 minutes
before the waiver announcement was made oh and the sharks run by former drury advisor mike greer
were ready to scoop goudreau up in what seemed like a planned claim with no asset going back
to new york so if complacency has set in with the team it would be a it would not sorry if so if any
complacency has set in with this team it would be a surprise sorry it would not be a surprise given
what just happened this summer and that is that to me is the interesting part it may not just be
laviolette it might be drury who has made some good moves and got them to success whatever
and let's not forget top down top down the rangers are chaotic oh msg is chaotic
the Knicks are chaotic
and there's only so much
you can do for those of us who've worked at chaotic
organizations to manage up
it does it comes down
through the ranks it does one way or another
and so I'm wondering
if there's a little bit of burnout
from the players here because they saw a popular
guy leave even though the contract
didn't work for the team anymore
and they're pissed
I'm getting frustrated
motivation is a hard thing I'm getting
frustrated because like one thing cj said about a month ago uh on the cj show which is unreal it's
just so good um it's so rare that you see a fall blockbuster it's it just is like you'll yeah
there's trades there's waiver stuff there's nothing huge god it just feels like everyone's
unhappy it just feels like everyone wants to move on from something in the nhl and the rangers
have an opportunity they're one of the only teams looking for a trade right now that's dealing from
a position of power yeah they're one of the only teams looking for a trade right now that doesn't
need to actually do anything yeah they don't like is this a problem that could fester and harm them
down the line this season yeah but they're 10th in the league they're fine they're like this is
the thing like yeah they're not playing well they're fine they will live like you can kick
this can down the road there are other dudes out there bruins who are fighting for their lives
right now there's other teams out there that have island have already used a bullet the rangers used
a bullet blues yes the blues there are detroit red wings yes ottawa senators yes pittsburgh
penguins yes nashville predators yes hugely huge and there's a i'd be targeting them but what i
like about that is that the rangers are 10th and they're pissed about it yes i fucking love that
there's no there's no and then the farmer said to the maybe it's no we're mad and we're gonna
to new york this how do we do it we're going to telegraph it to everybody in the league
we're we're and here's the thing it's it's breaking on twitter literally right now all
the rangers reporters i follow are going chris crider just talked to us he was very forthcoming
blah blah blah he's a very quiet guy so there's a huge interview coming this afternoon from all
the publications with chris crider i can't wait so it's noisy we're not but it is noisy and
so whether or not drury makes a trade here what i can respect that he's he's trying to spark
something a hundred percent no no does it blow up in his face though i'm just saying i it just
feels like something so close to popping off uh somewhere and i'm looking at the preds who
should be competing for top of that division and suck they suck and the rangers who are 10th but
grumpy about it jesse um i think i don't i don't disagree that jury might be the problem here
when he when he fired gerard gallant like gerard gallant kind of he ran his course in in new york
but it was only it was two seasons and first season goes to uh the conference finals loses
tampa second season that embarrassing loss to the devils um during their heater year and then he
gets fired you bring in laviolette and now it's like okay laviolette can't get anything going
eventually you got to look at the general manager and you got to say okay you fired that bullet
like okay now you got another coach we're gonna get another coach so the gms clearly look at the
players being like i have the guy in place but maybe it's in it's falling on the gm for uh not
putting the right pieces together for this team that should be a lot better than they are right
now yeah how close to happening is something like lingren for march so let's cook like let's just
let's get i don't think i think i think you're trying to just will something for content that's
correct yeah but marsh so that's correct listen nashville very clearly needed to add center depth
this year they didn't they went and like who did somebody said it it was like oh you've got
stamp coast with tommy novak like you know no offense to tommy novak but like you gotta do
something um i could see a marcia so i can't i don't see why the predators would want a defenseman
but i do i think they want to trots in charge yeah i couldn't have enough of them that's true
um i'm just looking at points percentage too just as a complete aside gentlemen uh the leafs points
percentage is a number that is near and dear to toronto's heart what do you know it's six six
yes it is i'm just throwing that out there yes 67 um there are there are other trade targets and
that's why i want to transition this because i think it's interesting we talk about ottawa being
upset and one of the things that they're having trouble with is defense right lingren if that
were allowed or if that could happen maybe that helps so here's the problem is that thomas shabbat
is having like an incredible year and no one's talking about it it doesn't matter well yeah
Well, it doesn't matter because they need, because they're like, no,
we have to play Travis Hamannik.
And, and, and this is where the Sens drive me nuts.
They got it.
They got to get better.
They got to add.
Trouba is a perfect fit in my opinion.
Yeah.
But he's not coming back to Canada.
I know.
But I think Lindgren would be good because if you have a left side guy who
could manage a high talent guy, the way Lindgren did Adam Fox,
I would look at Lindgren if I'm the Sens and I go, you know,
obviously you probably do do more scouting, but Lindgren looked awesome.
next to Adam Fox.
Lingren for Kachuk.
There you go.
There you go.
I don't think they're moving Lingren
for anything that's not earth-shattering.
There's no reason.
But his deal's expiring at the end of the year, though.
That's my thing.
He's a left shot.
Yeah, but they got to get something back
that's going to be really important to the team.
What about a package that includes Ridley Grigg?
What's the package?
What if it's picks you can parlay into something else?
lingering kako for let's cook let's come on you want a phone yeah pick up the like it's not just
content it's it's if you're a hockey fan it's exciting yeah but that's not you can't just be
like i want this it's fun no but they should do it for content a little that's uh the the
lingering thing it makes sense to move off of him if if you're not going to resign him because
your cap situation next year is already looking tight and but there's also a really valuable
player there that you got to get something really significant back for yeah yeah and i think greg
greg's a great player too could you not see though could you not see the senators going like
genuinely speaking sure do the senators need to draft more people or do they need to get some
veterans on the roster and and help claude geroux out and raise these no i i agree with that and i
think so the senators i don't know good youth and they have good picks available and so this is
if it's a lingward deal and we're just we're making it up here but like if you have so i'm
looking at the senators here they have all three of their first picks this year they've got three
thirds next year and all of their picks in 2027 this is this is what we talk about every now and
then when a team is in on a player they're in on a big player and they don't get them
and then they just go oh well never mind then like that doesn't make any sense to me the sends
were in on they badly wanted chris taniff chris taniff and they didn't get them and thus far
they've gone oh well never mind travis hamannik and let's re-sign them yeah if you struggle to
sign guys what what do you do you got to stay with the team you have or draft it which takes a while
or trade truba has the trade protection but like that's a team who maybe even more than the rangers
has to pick up the phone if they want to get better and be like hey jake can we try to sell
you on ottawa yes i mean that's what i would do listen if i wanted a guy like if if jake truba
made sense and i'm steve steos i would pick up the phone and be like can you at least let me talk to
him yeah 100 and i i would be surprised if that conversation hasn't already happened it'd be very
interesting if you could steal batherson or pinto for lingren oh that'd be that'd be fantastic i
don't know you can have batherson over my dead body i think if you're the sins yeah pinto's
You need someone who's going to score 18 goals against the Leafs every year.
How much do you want, Lindgren?
I threw out Ridley Gregg.
It's not enough.
I'd like more than Gregg.
Because the Rangers would also have to give Gregg a contract.
But I don't know how much that would be.
Gregg and a pick.
I don't know.
I look at Pinto and Bathurston.
They're signed.
It's cost control.
You know what you're getting.
Jesse, all of a sudden.
You're throwing in a pick, too.
you're getting you're getting lingering plus something for one of those is this is this for
the the content i'm not just sitting here like oh
i think kind of feels like you're doing that i'm trying to i'm trying to speculate roster moves
instead of just being a cheerleader for moves feels like an seo play by jesse blake
hey steve what i hear you have a book that you sign yeah i sign it sometimes and this weekend
why what is this i will sign it two times this is robotic ai thing no you know what it is is i
forgot to promote the fact that i have two book settings this weekend in the show so we're doing
an ad read for it guess what saturday at 2 p.m that's in the afternoon i'm gonna be at the
toronto eaton center oh no yeah oh yeah yeah see what this is ads work now jesse knows and now so
do you and then after that like contentious yeah yeah yeah i was i'm pleasantly surprised
anyway he acts like you haven't helped support this book at all he signed a bunch against my
will oh i told him not to and he signed what time the eaton center yeah uh two ah on saturday oh
maybe oh yeah maybe anyway and then the next day 2 p.m i'm gonna be in barry oh that is that's close
to your home it is it's very close to my home indigo uh it is 33 maple view drive west it is
an indigo and it is a store and not a parking lot and i will see you there now i want to i do want
to throw this at you uh the sends according to pierre lebrun and you have to remember it's pierre
lebrun is relaying a message i talked to the sends here's what they said sure the sends want to put
out there right now that they're not going to make a knee-jerk reaction yeah shut up and and
apparently according to uh pierre lebrun he said uh i don't believe that's what steos is thinking
there's a danger in trying to trade your way out of frustration for example i'm not trying to pick
on them but there are more than a few former sabers players thriving elsewhere a trade is not
always the answer now that is because the sabers made bad trades and bad decisions specifically
with Jack Eichel the team they could still have him the team most poised to make a dumb I'm angry
trade is Nashville a hundred percent uh and we're gonna find out if Barry Trotz is your president GM
you should call them every day call them and ask how the weather is and also do you want to give
us one of your good players they said the he says the Senators made some moves in the offseason it's
time to let their roster settle it's time for the players to figure it out from within here's my
issue with that they got lenis olmark lenis olmark was a vesna candidate and won it for multiple
years uh lenis olmark's been bad but is he bad or are the senators bad at defense and and lebron
acknowledges that they're trying to kind of get rid of the scars from yesteryear he had a 917 on
the sabers what's that he had a 917 on the sabers before he went to the brook so it kind of feels
like this what's who's the common denominator here lena solmark who's been good on the sabers
and then better on the bruins or the senators who have been bad since 2017 and i think there's
blame to go around i think that you're looking at a situation where these guys were absolutely
you just said it absolutely right to want chris tenev we can't get him who's the next guy who's
next man up and and i think i think it would be a mistake for steve stales not to be active right
now i think you need because sometimes you're doing it in chris drury's case he's doing it
as punishment you guys are playing like shit i don't like it in steve steos's case last year
that it was about first off managing the the chaos of shane pinto's situation the the pick that they
were fined in the anaheim dadenov vegas thing with their previous general manager all that stuff
you've had the year now you've had it now what you got to do something and artem zoob uh is on
long-term injury reserve dude this happens every year now yeah where zoob goes down with an injury
and they're just like well we're cooked and you brought in nick jensen for jacob chikrin yeah
which is fine fine but that's but that's a one for one that's not adding to your depth you got
jake sanderson who's 22 he's gonna have up and down years and he's a little down at the moment
uh thomas shabbat's having a great year 27 this is why i think zube is out jensen's 34
hamannik is is 34 as well but he's cooked man the guy's just not great anymore and then it's
clevin 22 uh sabrango who's 22 and bernard docker who's 24 and is what he is it seems he's fine he's
guy that's not enough and that's where i ask what are the senators actually expecting
so are you expecting lenis allmark to come in and be patrick waugh i think a lot of this
comes down to they thought he'd be better they also thought that their whole problem was just
goaltending they thought like oh unis corpus all is bad you know if we just get a good goaltender
behind them all of our problems will be fixed and he's one of the bright spots on boston yeah and i
think what they're learning is that year in and year out it's not goaltending that is the issue
it's the goalies go to Ottawa and they suck
because the rest of the team isn't very good.
Jacques Martin said that last year.
You know, they don't have...
What's that?
What did Jacques Martin say?
Sorry, Jesse, I don't mean to interrupt.
I want to go back to that, Jesse.
No, because they had...
Add to Jesse's point.
They had two goalies.
I think it was Corpus Allo and Forsberg,
and Martin was like, these are good goalies.
Sorry, Jesse.
Yeah, no, I...
Corpus Allo goes somewhere else and he does well.
Ottawa needs to do something with the core of their team
because it's just not very good.
So this is where I find it interesting
because if the senators were getting a...
I bet the senators are getting a lot of phone calls right now.
I bet they're getting a lot of phone calls right now.
And I bet they're getting a lot of phone calls saying,
hey, you looking to trade?
And the worst thing you can do is say,
yep, we really need to trade.
This is a problem.
This is them playing coy.
So you know how Chris Drury sent out the trade memo?
I'm calling it a trade memo now.
I think that this is the anti-memo.
This is the memo that no, no, no.
we're fine but you know they're not fine you know when you're when you're arguing with your partner
and they're like you know what i'm fine and you know they're not the senators are not fine the
senators will make a trade and any and if just look at the roster they have to they have to
but tradition says that they'll just run it back and keep the same thing and then uh do nothing
and win the and then eventually a player in ottawa is going to be like i don't want to play in ottawa
anymore and then they trade them for two cents on the dollar which player is that i don't know it
happens every there's one every year like i there's one there's one player that i'm thinking
of specifically that forced his way out of canada and then went to two straight stanley cup finals
who is that oh who was it oh it's matthew kachuk oh yeah oh just wondering oh that's no that's so
weird i don't think brady is they're gonna be the next one to leave ottawa but you don't think it
hasn't crossed his mind he's under contract that's the big yeah you're right you're right okay um
i would just do something if i were steve snails listen obviously i'm a leaves fan
but i think the frustrating thing for the sends is they just seem so utterly fixable
i i look at them and i i don't i think they're two two quality defensemen away probably and
maybe a little team defense maybe even one like now you need to i look at them and i just go
like what not listen not everyone makes the playoffs why aren't you close you just don't
even feel close like it they feel fixable well but that's the thing steve is that it's one person
cannot fix that you're you're you're you're talking about a team that like literally is
it's too solid defenseman shy which is a hard menu if you're regularly dressing travis hamannik
going into the playoffs you're not going to the playoffs that's what i think like what you need
you need something better than that you can't have three guys that are just passengers so you
got the three i mean shabbat's not a kid uh but you got three young guys on the left and then
your right side is zoob truba uh jensen there are teams with worse rights oh that'd be sick
that'd be sick there are teams you're assuming truba would go to ottawa one through six d
course then i know i know and i keep and that's an american he wants to be in the states like i
get that i understand it's his contractual right to do so so i don't i don't blame him necessarily
but someone like okay it's not true but well i wonder who is it you know who i look at is i'm
just because cj put this on his trade board and i had to ask him i was like are you sure
brad marshand is on cj's trade board at the moment he is what he's on the list uh and it's not that
he will get traded it's that if he calls it the trade targets okay and he is number 10 on the list
on the list proveroff who we're getting to marcus patterson cam fowler taylor hall michael grandlin
frank for toronto's trevor ziegris david urochek who's going to be traded probably imminently
rasmus ristolainen and brad marchand and by the way under underneath him trent frederick and oh
What I find interesting about the Boston situation...
Do I think Brad Marchand is going to get traded?
No.
I don't.
But to me, trading him is similar to trading Kreider.
Well, yeah.
But it's not Brad I want to talk about.
Okay.
If the Boston Bruins want...
If they get to January and they're still playing like this
and the Sabres have gotten ahead of them,
which they have in the standings as of now,
I think overall in the league,
I think Boston's like 18th,
which is not good by their standards.
Meh.
what about one of the new guys and i wonder if i wonder if a guy who's used to playing in canada
who just signed a big contract who happens to shoot right who's an absolute monster like big guy
are you talking about zedora i am he's a lefty well it doesn't matter i wonder if like i wonder
if i know it's five million bucks for a bottom pair defenseman yeah but are you are you like
i wonder if that becomes part of the conference because what it does for the bruins is if they go
this season is the season stinks and we want some picks and we want to retool and go a different
direction and be good again next year well you might want to move some money i mean i think if
you're looking to move zadorov you move sweeney with him well that might happen anyway yeah he's
definitely out of the two new guys he's i think way easier to move them than home oh i think
there'd be a market for Zdorov yeah yeah and I feel like Ottawa that's exactly the kind of guy
they might want don't you see how many teams are pissed it's great let's talk about Ivan Provorov
here uh LeBron goes into the fact he getting traded yes let's see it now Provorov's annual
salary is 6.75 but the Kings retained 30 as a part of that three-team trade with Cal Peterson
who else was involved in that that was a weird one um and so he actually only counts 4.725 against
the cap i mean philly i guess it was oh yeah philly columbus la yeah because he never actually
played in the kings and the cost is a first round pick and they're willing to do it before the
deadline they're not saying they're not saying they'll do it right now but they are willing to
do what vancouver did was the door off in calgary last year so wait they're moving off of proveroff
and you're a check potentially what are they doing well that's a different story but let's
talk about the ask what do you what do you jesse what are you doing what do you want would you pay
a first round pick pick for ivan proveroff that's pretty funny i know no no really yeah
why too rich you think it's too rich yeah interesting now good defenseman on a good team
ever yeah what has proveroff done to prove he's the first round pick worthy i'm gonna pay a first
round pick to pay you never uh to pay you nearly seven million dollars to be mid well it's actually
4.725 oh 4.7 all right yeah yeah well uh i'm not a huge pro of raw fan but like that does
change the conversation and it's all it's expiring at the end of the year so he will make seven
because somebody's gonna pay him that there are teams with decors that could use him i guess at
the deadline are we talking about the deadline we're talking leading up to that they are willing
to do it beforehand if somebody comes to the table with the first round pick yeah i'd say at
the deadline probably somebody if it's like i'm trying to think i tell don you're not in california
you're not in carolina anymore we see first round picks move pretty often like late first for
defenseman rentals yeah yeah yeah so probably yeah worth noting 32 points last year uh with
the blue jackets 27 the year before with the flyers he has six in 20 games this year but he
has played all of the last two seasons so he's been pretty healthy uh and he's a big boy and
was a high draft pick good to know that he's healthy while being just ass what do you say
his contract is uh 4.725 on your cap if you if you get him because la retained 30 and then
columbus could potentially retain as well and i would expect for a first round pick that i would
be like retain 50 yeah yeah see the conversation keeps changing right oh he makes this oh no he
makes this oh well how about he makes yeah do you mind ivan proverov at what's half of 4.7 yeah
like two million bucks or whatever i think a lot of teams live with that uh yeah i think so um okay
so that's interesting uh now the blue jackets and i think steve you bring up a good question which is
what are you doing david you're a check seems like that's imminent why because there's been
a bunch of rumors no no why are they trading him like what uh because they can't develop people
we talked about this what two episodes you're rebuilding and suck and you have a fifth overall
pick who shoots right and plays d are you out of your mind who your ahl team are raving about
and saying he's got nothing to learn here okay that's what they said okay portsy wrote it so
let's say let's say he's not doing well yeah and there's stuff that we see in his game that we
don't like rutger mcgordy with the winnipeg jets sure um you need to fire your whole scouting staff
immediately um oh i thought you meant okay never mind that's not just picked this player fifth
overall like just like when was it uh 22 what are we doing i think we were at that what are we doing
that you hired an entire staff and you had the fifth overall pick six oh six overall pick sorry
you get you get the sixth overall pick it's a very high pick and you pick that's not a lot of
picks a big offensively capable right-handed defenseman yep and you i think it's so relevant
to the story that you pink you stink and have stunk and will stink for 20 years and beat the
Leafs because of course it's one of the
it's very underratedly unforgivable
anyway you stink and you need to rebuild
and you need to get younger and why the
fuck are you trading this player I don't
understand this situation isn't fixable
like I feel like the situation just got
here like last year we were talking
about like hey you're yo-yoing this kid
a little bit maybe don't do that and
it's already at oh the trade is happening well and the trade is happening because dante fabbro
was a guy that they brought that they brought in they didn't have to claim dante fabbro he's
been doing all right well yeah but i mean the the question is what's better for your organization
in the long run is it playing a guy who maybe your coach isn't crazy about right now because
he makes mistakes and he's 20 20 as a defenseman in the nhl uh evison okay no isn't evison no i
think yeah i think you're right yeah um i don't understand why you need to try this is also a ufa
isn't he after this season so like what are you david george x 20 so the long-term plan is who
like okay you you he has nothing to learn in the minors okay i very much doubt that
here's 30 minutes a night in the ahl yeah like i i just you're a rebuilding team with a high-end
prospect either playing in the nhl or and if you don't want to do that play the wheels off him in
the minors but they're saying he's he's a he's graduated from that he's no he has he's not like
if well that's their that's the wrong thing to do was what they were doing all this beginning
of the season which was having him sit in a press box like that's that's the wrong thing you don't
you don't do that but that's the stupid thing is what they were doing so yeah like i would be upset
if i'm europe check yeah you want him down the minors where he is now and just leave him there
like okay okay you probably think you're better than this you want to be at the nhl level that's
not up to you that's up to us the problem is no player is gonna well i don't know this alan don't
call but like uh no player goes i should be down in the minors making lots of uh playing lots of
minutes and the reason they don't say that is because their salary is cut by like nine tenths
it's cut by like 90 he would rather be in the nhl and playing but the smart thing for the
organization to do is send him to the minors and play the wheels off him or play him at the nhl
level like either one of those options is the right thing and i don't think okay he's down in
the mires now and you had this contentious first part of the season now we gotta trade him like
the logic there isn't doesn't make sense unless you get an absolute king's ransom for this player
you are easily picking the dumbest option yeah do they not see a path forward with him beyond
right now this got unfixable so fast yeah i'm just i don't understand how they reach that
conclusion that this is the best path what's interesting i'm rereading our portsy's article
here he's not requested a trade so what's yeah they believe that this is the best course of
action which i don't understand that logic so evison said he heard positive reports from
trent uh vogelhooper uh and the cleveland staff that's the ahl coach i'm sorry trent i didn't
mean to butcher your name evison and the coaches coaching staff actually streamed the first two
period periods from the coach's office at nationwide's arena on saturday uh because they
wanted to watch and he said good really good this is evison uh he did a lot a lot of good things on
both sides of the puck which we want him to do a consistent honest consistent basis down there
um we know he has an offensive side what they're saying is they don't believe
the blue jackets don't believe he is polished defensively enough to be at the nhl level and
here's my question to that okay so what young player is yes that's that's where i'm i'm confused
you're a bad team you want him to learn sitting him in the press box is stupid sending him to
cleveland can teach him some stuff but if you want him to get good defensively it takes offensive
defensemen years to get good at defense in the nhl it does we've seen it and in eric carlson's
case sometimes they just never do but like i think you do what every smart team does
with a restless prospect who's good and you you go hey i got you something and you hand them a box
and they rip off all the paper and the bow and they open it up and get a big box of damn that's
crazy i don't like okay what they're trying to do is get another prospect for him so much like
the jaeger mcgordy thing a boat's a boat but the mystery box could be anything it could even be a
boat that doesn't make sense keep him what are you doing yeah i don't understand and like their
logic is like right now there's no place for your check on the right side because we got fabbro and
we got severson we got jordan harris i'm like okay but like what about beyond this season what about
what about just having a good prospect okay they're not they don't have the room like right
now montreal's playing the hell out of lane hudson right he's playing he's been in every game he's
from the same draft he was taking four picks before your chat is he perfect and he's that's
the point is that they're playing the hell out of him and he's great offensively but he's not
great defensive he's getting turnstile and he's trying to he's trying to learn they have that
room at the nhl level to let him learn columbus because of how they've decided to gm this haven't
left the room for your check to learn at the nhl level this season so either fix your own mistake
make room for him whether it's through you want to scratch a guy or you want to move somebody
or figure out how to make the situation tenable so that you keep the player because eventually
you're going to need a good right shot defenseman you're jesse nobody wants those no it's stupid
it's funny because now that you mention it like okay harris they acquired this past summer in the
line a deal fabbro they acquired they got him off the waiver what are you doing yeah through their
own power they took out the role that eurocheck would have had on this team but if you're like
the the development of eurocheck is too important to the future of this team you get fabbro and you
get harris with the purpose of sending that man child down to the minors you play the wheels off
him and then you call him up and he's great or like jordan harris can sit in the press box more
than your check or dante fabbro can do you see how many options there are other than trading this
player dante fabbro i get if you want to play him like okay we got we got four good right shots
fabbro steven stevenson and and um harris even though harrison pretty sure the left shot right
but he plays the right side yeah um okay but you can you can have your check ahead of fucking
harris on the depth chart it's also worth mentioning you're a check with the cleveland
monsters in 55 games 22 23 at 38 points last year 29 games uh 19 points and he's already
a point a game player at the cleveland monsters level two games two points um jordan harris by
the way yes jesse is a left shot and if i may be tick tock about this 11 games played
zero goal
zero assist
zero point but like what are we doing i don't understand like i'm and like i he shouldn't be
catching strays here like it you drafted this player six overall and you're already done uh-huh
i'm sorry everyone has to go like if that's if that's the pick you made and it's already
untenable everyone's got to go or you simply figure it out that it this just doesn't feel
like it should be impossible yep unless there's something we're missing here it's weird adam can
i host the next episode of agent sure and this is the only subject i don't think i don't think
alan would want to talk about it while it's hot i don't care if the episode's five minutes
of him it might be five seconds but you'd be like so david you're a check click
he's not gonna talk about it while while this is happening all right this has been ancient
provocateur but in it uh we just i would just like a reason from columbus why this is the right
course of action with your 2022 sixth overall pick and i think it comes down to i don't think
i it's my i'm guessing doesn't feel like evison is a believer that's that's that's why don waddell
is like i'm gonna sell on that you brought the coach in uh and maybe you can get a maybe you
can get a different prospect not adam sorry david urachek has played six professional games this
season that's inexcusable yeah it's crazy now moving on very quickly to the pittsburgh penguins
uh for those wondering mike sullivan's not likely to be fired here's why josh yohi athletic he said
first off, he thinks that Dubas likes
him. He said, I'd like to
note also that Dubas, more than anyone,
seemed very interested in squashing
optimism at his preseason
news conference. I want to go back and watch that.
Because remember, this is the
same organization that promised Crosby
they'd be better this year. And
here's what Josh says. I think he knew there was a real
chance the team wouldn't be very good, and thus Sullivan
was expected to survive the season. The question
is, how poorly do the Penguins have to
play for Sullivan to get fired? I'm sure there
is a point where Dubas will say enough is enough.
No coach, not even Sullivan, is immune to being dismissed.
The Penguins are horrific right now.
And what's interesting here is he started that by saying
Sullivan has two years remaining on his contract following this season.
And Fenway Sports, even though they have all the money,
they don't like to spend all the money.
That's how they have it.
Cool.
The Penguins' points percentage starts with a three.
Dude, they're third last.
They're fourth last in points, third last in points percentage.
Jesus.
what's nashville is second last the frick couple of things what many people in the pens organization
were disturbed by crosby dropping the gloves on friday against winnipeg don't take this the wrong
way no one has a problem with crosby fighting he's a competitor it's that other people didn't
step up yeah that got to that point and then the last one is josh says the number of season
ticket holders i've heard from in recent days is staggering they voice many complaints many are
really pissed with family sports group which is interesting so talking about teams that are
unhappy i think pittsburgh is the most unhappy right now a lot of teams that are unhappy um
i if if the if the organization's goal from the beginning was sullivan survives because we don't
think we're actually that good then do you just do nothing and sell at the deadline and make it
miserable and go it's miserable and there's not much we can do about it right now firing mike
sullivan doesn't help the situation with the team that's the thing where i agree with dubas in that
if you believe mike sullivan is a good head coach firing him doesn't instantly make the penguins a
good team it's a roster construction issue it's a direction issue like they they have to pick
a direction here either you're really going for it or you're in your rebuild mode so i understand
like hey mike sullivan might not be coaching that well right now but it's also not his his problem
here it's he's not the the problem with the penguins how many quality goalies do the penguins
have zero i think a lot of people would say zero i'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and
say one nadalkovich nadalkovich sure they got a good d car not really not really no and marcus
pedersen's second on cj's trade board so how many guys are expected to do all the scoring like four
or five what team is this and what year is it i mean uh dubas teams have a type
i'm sorry bad defending bad defense that how many years were we like the leafs
are going to be fine
if this goalie plays
and if that goalie doesn't play,
we might as well not turn the game on.
Guys aren't sticking up for their captain.
The same guys have to do all the scoring
or you might as well not turn the game on.
The decor is mid at best.
Are you saying Kyle Dubas loves his system?
they listen you're talking me into firing the coach isn't going to do anything because yeah
what do we expect this team to be yeah but the thing about the dubious lease is that that was
some of the most successful regular season action that the leafs have ever seen their
franchises history followed by what is shaping up to be even better yeah and a lot of lack of
playoff success he has a new issue on his hand is that he didn't build a good regular season team
at all the and i mean in defense of dubas before he was even hired to this job we you know i can't
be a hypocrite here we talked about whoever takes that penguins job yeah is taking probably the
worst job in hockey because they either have to rebuild the penguins and trade crosby or salvage
the penguins which is impossible yeah so steve if i was holding a grenade and then i pulled the pin
and then i put it into your hands how is that going to result for you and that's what kyle
dubas is signed up for try to bank it off the wall and into the kitchen so that we all survive
okay yeah that's good thinking or no no here's what i do tick tick tick tick tick tick tick
tick gosh it really feels like someone should be doing something exactly he bang why would
ron hextall do this cow there was took this job and you know what i mean yeah go ahead why would
ron hextall do how they just took the job and i don't know if he had a choice in the initial
direction that he had to go in like he couldn't he's the president he couldn't go in there yeah
but he also has bosses like what's i don't know what's with him and taking jobs where he doesn't
have control fucking do anything he loves not having control but having the title of somebody
with all all he needed to do was make it someone else's problem as i've told you name a gm and then
it's their problem you're at the president level that even though the even though it is technically
your problem the public never blames you they always blame the gm now we're talking about
unhappy teams boys i got some breaking news we have a trade yes yes now yes it's between two
one very unhappy team and one pretty unhappy team very think very unhappy team prez got it yes
now one kind of unhappy team but but you know they're rebuilding so they're kind of unhappy
but they're not happy with the rebuild that doesn't sound like the sins i'm gonna say montreal
that that they would be in that yeah you describe them but it's not montreal but they would be just
like that a team that's rebuilding uh san jose is rebuilding but they're happy but they're they're
pretty happy with the rebuild chicago chicago is unhappy with their rebuild because they've stunk
up the joint when they were expected to be
a little better and be a playoff team
according to some very smart people
on this panel big
yes
anyway big
contract
I'm not going to tell you oh you suck guess
it's a big
contract I'm not going to say a freaking I hate
you what are we getting we're guessing
give me a give me a guess trade between those two
teams just give me Taylor Hall
is going to be moved at some point
but it's not him because I think that would have been
a bigger deal i don't know jason dickinson interesting guys the nashville predators have
acquired if this trade sucks i'm gonna rider rolston from chicago i'm gonna kick your ass
future considerations oh you suck rider rolston by the way that was a complete one goal for the
rockford ice hogs this year in six games oh you wasted everybody's time with that one you need
your ass kicked at him wild how much fun was that none that was amazing none okay quick quick
couple of things kevin lankanen is having an amazing time in vancouver he's doing really
really well demko is back any day now but i don't know what they're gonna do because according to
whom huh according to according to the canucks uh any day now they're saying he's like getting
really close like all right he's not matthews day-to-day he's actually that's what that's what
i wanted that's what i'm just checking in on because demko was any day now last playoff yeah
and then let me just take a hop skipping a jump on a transatlantic flight on my day-to-day injury
oh my god so no one should worry about this is real real because i'm real real okay that's awesome
and three and two in 15 starts lincoln has started 14 in the last 17 games for the canucks
last uh they beat the the boston bruins last night what was the shot attempts the shot the
score was two nothing but the shot attempts were 72 to 31 for boston damn vancouver skaters block
28 which is great that means the rest of it was post or lincoln uh and they are only two points
behind a the 50 win pace that they had last year with kevin lincoln and that the vancouver canucks
if demko comes back and is great and then you have these two as a that is going to be unbelievable
getting kevin lincoln and was such a strange situation for the canucks and it was strange
that he did that he didn't he went the whole offseason unsigned how the fuck did that i don't
know he was great with but they got him and i mean what a great situation for him what a great
situation for them awesome and last one or two more lagason will lagason we mentioned it uh three
games for choking a guy until he tapped out yeah and then the last one and this is from insider
trading with cj uh something to keep an eye on the detroit red wings are about to go through a
homestand oh and apparently this homestand is important because derrick lalonde's future hinges
on it get ready for the red wings to either be so good or play like a team that is definitely
trying to get their coach.
One way or another, very interesting.
Another unhappy team.
I want to know how
Porsche Detroit North feels
about this homestand. Me too.
How many
billboards outside of
Little Caesars will they purchase?
Can they spark a win streak?
Because it's an EV, right?
Electricity. Come on.
Come on.
Hopefully their fortunes head north.
Maybe they'll beat
the bolts oh ah adam you did uh sydney crosby very dirty uh for weeks on this show you've been
asking steve and i a will he get 600 tonight and then sydney crosby got uh his 600th goal
and it's been a couple episodes one episode now and this is the second one you haven't brought it
up because i'm bored it's not i'm bored now it doesn't matter you talked about 599 no and listen
The company he is in is bonkers, but I'm bored now.
Should have got it done earlier.
You know what?
It would have been more interesting in a Leafs jersey.
Yo, you know what would have been?
Yeah, it would have been great in a Leafs jersey.
Here's what's interesting.
It's never happening.
He got 600 goals, and all anybody can talk about is how shitty the Penguins are.
The night Sidney Crosby got 600 goals was last Saturday, and the Penguins lost 6-1.
Oh, my God.
During that game.
So, yeah.
Wait, was that the game he fought Connor?
What's that?
was that the game he fought connor no game after oh okay yeah yeah yeah like that's nuts right
600 goals puts him in exclusive company 21st player all time to hit 600 um he's now one back
of yard curry who famously finished with 601 yes um it's just what an incredible career for that
guy um mount rushmore hockey people who is the most realistic person he can catch he's gonna
to move up this chart by the end of his career i'll bring up i think by the goals by the end of
this year he'll be a past joe sackick yeah because joe sack is that 625 that's 16th all time so by
the end of crosby's career do you guys think he hits 700 which would put him in the top 10
eiserman's the 10th position 692 so you imagine if he hits 693 he'll stick around for those seven
extra goals and be somewhere near 700 i think he'll be ahead of me let's go in goals and points
let's go uber conservative okay um he scores 20 goals the rest of the season scores 30 goals each
of his next two seasons what is he at right now 20 goal uh he's at 600 no no this season hang on
i'll look it up oh um i don't know yeah so that's why i'm looking at eight he's at eight oh yeah
Yeah, so even more maybe.
Let's say he has a 30-goal season, right?
So 22.
Sure, yeah.
So 30 goals this year and next and next.
Super conservative.
That brings him to 682,
which would bring him too shy of Taimou Solani.
No, he's sticking around.
But then he needs to sign another contract with whom?
Man, he's going to look good in Colorado.
It's crazy.
Here's where I'm going with this.
Yeah.
Like, the Crosby-Ovechkin discussion often comes down to,
yeah, but Ovechkin's the best goal scorer of all time.
There's a real good chance Crosby still ends up top 10.
Probably, like, Mike Gardner has 708.
So I did the conservative number, a more realistic number.
All right, let's say he finishes this year with 35.
And next year with 35, and next year with 35.
oh man like he's right there he's crosby who is like probably a playmaker first is still gonna
end up top 10 in goal scoring 700 is a little harder than i initially thought fewer than 10
players have ever done yeah yeah for him to get another 100 goals because it's a lot i'm trying
to like envision in my mind how much longer he's gonna play if these two if he's like two more
years with the penguins we're in full rebuild mode i'm just here to hang out with the kids
that dubas hopefully brings in yeah i don't see him putting up to 35 goal seasons and then sticking
around after that to hit 700 so he could potentially fall short of that last year he had
42 the year before he had 33 the year before he had 31 and the year before that that was a 69
game season a lot he's been healthy he's played every game the last two years 33 and 42
i think it's entirely possible he's gonna climb but he's gotta stick around i think he will and
they gotta also be able to score goals he could he could get cups four and five in colorado you
tell me he's not gonna stick around for that how dare you calum richie's gonna look sick in a pens
jersey though australia general that's what i'm saying we saw you guys if you had to put money on
right now 700 for crosby yes yeah yeah yeah i would put money yeah yeah i would i would i would
bet mgm big story bet on that okay you know uh now the uh uh yeah i said yeah i did all that stuff
okay cool so uh do we have time for steve's show and tell her do we need to push no we're
are you serious adam didn't leave you enough time it's been i'm sorry there's been a lot
we're over an hour 50 years and i'll tell you why what threw this off is that i got the
NHL player safety thing dropped
in my lap mid-show. I did have
space for this, but we spent 20 minutes on it.
Because Jesse was like, well, do you want
to look them both up? And I was like, damn, I do.
No.
I'm pulling up two things.
Pull them up.
Doug Lee fan keeps going in your streams
and going, give me the damn
programs.
He cannot be giving those to me.
This is the 2000 All-Star Game program.
We're giving this back to him, right?
Why?
He can't just be giving this to me.
He lives in London.
I can't.
I don't know.
And this is a Leafs 1990-1991 program with, I think that's Gary Lehman, Ed Olchuk, and
Vinnie Domfuss.
Whoa.
Yeah.
Look at the beer on the back.
And they've got a Rolls Royce out front.
That is definitely Harold Bowers' Rolls Royce.
All right.
Next episode, you can open the others.
No.
One last one.
Damn it.
