Starting point is 00:00:00 One thing is certain in this game, we're watching a new generation of talent rise up, and it's not just on the pitch, or on the field, or on the ice! Camp Day is back, July 15th at Tim Hortons, with more young talent to support off the field. Every hot and iced coffee sold during Camp Day, you might want to go iced, because it's pretty darn hot outside. Apparently, according to science, when you drink a hot coffee on a hot day, it actually cools your body. Well, there you go. Because your temperature in your body goes up to match the more temperature outside. So your feeling is actually less hot. You know, fellas, fellas, get one of each. People don't care about that. Well, they don't. And you know what? Why don't we take those nerds and throw them in the lake? How about that? Camp at Tim Horton's Foundation Camp. Yeah. Helping a whole new generation to build confidence, connection and life skills through camp. But hey, you don't have to wait till July 15th to help. Just buy a bracelet, pick up a badge or round up your order on the tim's app all all it does is help it helps youth uh in your community through camps get on the group chat get the coffee orders in you can do it through the tim hortons app jesse you're a big proponent of the tim hortons app it's your favorite thing i like just going there and when i'm on my
Starting point is 00:01:09 way loading all the offers and seem like oh what can i get here donut extra just tacked onto my coffee there's an offer load that one in yeah get ready to support camp day july 15th at tim hortons let's start the show either you like hockey or you are wrong are you using that says my mug that's awesome oh that facebook mug no that's i'm i'm born in august and i don't like to be messed with i'm an associate producer and a badass i used to get that a lot when i was at cbc oh i miss facebook t-shirts i used to see them a lot at the racetrack whenever i go to a racetrack there'd be facebook t-shirts everywhere not the swanky racetrack you're not talking about the kentucky derby no no i'm talking about like walkins glenn international baby yeah it's still
Starting point is 00:02:09 a great track nascar track they used to do f1 there but still but still oh you get you get the boys who are like wow that's a great looking t-shirt i'll i'll click on that link on my facebook account anyway um jesse is going to be our lead story today which is rare we don't often make ourselves the lead story but jesse golfed with some legends yesterday one of them known as the preeminent tough guy and the first first overall pick the leafs ever had steven sorry i got some dust on this for you already this is a signed helmet by wendell clark hey now jesse you you got to golf with and eat barbecue from yes uh wendell clark you have pictures people people might know this i'll yeah i'll talk through what is kind of like my slideshow
Starting point is 00:02:57 uh here i'll just pull up pictures as we go and when they come up you can bring them up there hayden but yeah that's me oh yeah uh wendell clark there on the course yesterday in muskoka and it date it goes back to rachel's raiders and easter seals because uh pete monroe of the canadian beer league yes the league we both play in he was at another easter seals event not the one we play in but a different one and you know like all at all those charity hockey events they have these auctions yeah and he bid on an auction to play golf with wendell clark that's and last minute his wife can't go and he's like jesse i know you like golf come play golf with wendell clark with me that's so awesome that's how this thing happened so i drive up to muskoka uh we get
Starting point is 00:03:41 to play 18 at the the beautiful golf course up there wendell plays with all of the groups because it was about uh 40 ish guys there um men and women all people they're all there and there's different groups so he started at like 18 and he'd play backwards so every group would cross him at some point and play a couple holes so he'd play multiple holes and all that stuff and it was a lot of fun and then you can remove that one so i can bring up a couple more he looks happy to see you jesse so yeah he was yes but i did tell him what i did and he had a i don't know i'll call it a blank look on his face in that i don't think he was too happy with what i did for my job oh okay you talk that you're in media yeah but i'm in media
Starting point is 00:04:26 oh i think i think that's fair to say that oh um that on days like this i don't think he's expecting members of the press to be there to report back on his after charity golf events but here we are here i am talking about it sorry how bad was his swing let's run him out of town it was a lot of fun so in the golf day um it included a boat ride across lake joseph anybody in muskoka area knows uh lake joseph excuse me it's lake joe lake joe sorry uh hello so this is a part of the boat ride when we were when we were uh leaving there um no oh oh wait you guy this is this is the boat ride exiting what is wendell clark's cottage on lake joe because the the really ugly also included a boat ride over lake joe to wendell's cottage sick where he barbecued for
Starting point is 00:05:20 all of us uh with his family there his wife was there uh his daughter was there and we got to spend a little afternoon on on his cottage there so i'll show you some more uh scenes from there that's a decent little life there jesse so yeah not bad to spend uh to spend a monday here he is i love this picture literally flipping burgers for us there's a thumbs up from wendell clark what an absolute yeah this man yeah oh he's a treasure yeah so i'll let's let's get into that part because everything you think about like this guy is a good person to have as an ambassador of beliefs you want to meet your heroes this is the guy you want to meet and talk to for an extended period of time because he'll give you that time of day he was so gracious with his time on the
Starting point is 00:06:05 golf course and everything um and then afterwards on the cottage um he did a 30 minute q a and the staff there from jackson events who puts us on shout out jackson events uh they had to cut him off by the end of it because it just kept going he talked all he's a good talker i remember interviewing at bt and he's a good talker like he said he's a very he's also very just you're like man i want to hug you you're awesome if you can get around him that's what is what is that he's yoked can we bring no type of man he's yeah you can see him in the chair here so this is the shot of all of us gathered on the so this is the top of the boathouse that overplayed show come on they cut off the roof of the boathouse they're saying at one point there was a roof there and they cut
Starting point is 00:06:47 it off to make a giant deck there uh on top of the boathouse that's he has multiple boats yes he does good for him as you should good for him below there um but yeah so we all gathered around for uh mini q a and he just told stories for like over 30 minutes until they they had to cut him off because he's such good he's so good at telling stories a couple things from that i want to i want to share and this is probably where he's not too happy about like there's a lot of rest that's there but one thing you can tell he is very excited to talk about more so than stories from the old game or is the current team uh-huh he loves talking about the current guys and and talking about uh the current goings on of the nhl and all that um so a couple a couple little notes
Starting point is 00:07:30 that i just wanted to hear your thoughts on interesting the toronto thing obviously came up no way playing in toronto how hard uh-huh wendell's response to that is i'm sitting here at 60 as a maple leaf still talking about the maple leaves if i was uh he used new jersey devil this isn't to hate on the new jersey devil they're gonna they're gonna take this well no they're not you know new jersey but this is what this is what wendell clark they take a slight well the real the real nhl after all you know he said if i was a new jersey devil sorry my career i would have retired at 34 and that would have been the end of it right thankfully i was a maple leaf and i'm sitting here at age 60 still doing this with all of you guys mike rup is jumping in his car right now to drive
Starting point is 00:08:15 i scored the stanley cup winning goal and alan walsh was my agent i'm gonna beat you up oh no but can you imagine having to having people excited to meet you so you can tell stories for like 30 years yes can you imagine the horror and then can you imagine despite what you think he's not just doing this out of the kindness of his heart uh he does he does get money for doing these things and he's able to like keep his career going and earn a living and everything and he talked about uh the money side of it and he said matt sundin earned in one season what i made in my entire career and he did this thing where he rattled off every salary he made throughout his entire career so i forget how long it was but he did he was i'm at 750 850 it was 125 and he rattled
Starting point is 00:09:01 he knew all of the numbers like and at the end he's like matt sundin made more than all of that in one season so let me let me say this wendell's clearly invested well he's clearly he's got and we know he's got business ventures and stuff like that what i would have sat there i would ask the most boring question i've been like so wendell if that's the case what did you get into post-playing career where because a lot of thank god adam wasn't there yeah everyone falling asleep i'd have been like oh my god like tell me about your i would have been all over that i've been like wendell tell me what you do to maximize your playing career money because again he's 62 it's been 25 years since he played an nhl game how early did you get into google there wendell
Starting point is 00:09:42 yeah exactly did you have some apple stocks whatever it was tesla we're getting on tesla around the crash like what happened yeah uh anyway sorry he said he was he's doing events about 150 days a year it's like half almost nearly half the he's literally the queen i mean he's doing events like this he probably meets more people than well queen's dead well yeah i remember when we were at uh back in the day we used to do this leo vegas tournament with matt sundin oh that's right uh and we interviewed matt and he was talking to us about some young hotshot prospect named elias petterson that he really liked i remember uh i don't want to stoke any trade rumors i don't think elias petterson's coming to a more media heavy market
Starting point is 00:10:20 but um the what's interesting about that is at the time the question was will john tavara sign in toronto that was the question that's how long ago this was and somebody in free agency in free agency and this is a long time ago right this is nine years ago and somebody said to me you know that every basically if you're a maple leaf alum of any sort of um notoriety this is back then yeah you can make half a million bucks a year signing autographs the rest of your life and i was like i was like really and they're like yeah and you can imagine how much that's gone up since then that kind of sounds terrible i don't know oh listen like it's not worth let me tell you something that florida that person will be back and signing autographs as soon as
Starting point is 00:11:08 their career is over mark me yeah but then you got mark me you gotta like pay taxes on your income people fix the they'll be back they'll be back anyway continue so yeah so yeah half the year he's around doing events like this and he set up his cottage so that it's so big and that his boathouse in the back area he can host events there that's amazing they're saying they throw charity events like this all the time they have people who bid on these things over all the time because he likes hosting he likes telling these stories and it's a good side business for him to raise money for charity and all that and his wife was there and the grounds are so beautiful he's him and his wife pick all the weeds and all the flowers and everything themselves anyways
Starting point is 00:11:44 other hockey story he loves phil kessel uh you know what i totally get it they're both the same build yeah dudes who are big by accident it is just really stocky his favorite phil kessel story is they had him out to one of the gary roberts camps during the summer stamkos is there all the the top guys at the time were there and this was after he had already gone to pittsburgh and he says phil walks in does no stretching nothing and he goes out there and he's better than everyone at every drill yeah and he said if he didn't have to try because he was so good yeah he was so just naturally good at hockey and nobody could compare to that level of i don't have to try as hard as you because i know this game so well wow we got to crash one of i think it was a gary roberts camp
Starting point is 00:12:35 or gary roberts was there this is when i was working with nike and it was very early in Stephen Stamkos career. Someone like Stamkos got on all fours on the bench so he couldn't be seen. Someone handed him a bag of popcorn and he had a handful, ate it and went back on the ice because Gary Roberts wouldn't let him eat popcorn. Yeah, yeah. That's how strict it was. And Phil Kessel's just out there doing whatever you want, having a hot dog and two Cokes and
Starting point is 00:13:00 just ruining everyone. He said when his son was coming up and playing hockey, his son, I think, maxed out at the AHL level there. Who's son? Wendell Clark. Oh, Wendell Clark. Yeah, yeah. So he didn't.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Still, that's pretty damn impressive. It's pro. Oh, yeah. It's a pro. Oh, yeah. But he said when he's growing up or he's telling kids now, Phil, when you watch him on the ice, he goes down. He just takes the shot. And he's like, all you kids.
Starting point is 00:13:25 He did the old man thing. He's like, all you kids these days, all you're trying to do is dangle and do a bunch of skill work. And you're not playing just straightforward hockey. And Phil never did anything extra on the ice that he didn't have to do. No. he went up the ice and he took his shot and he scored 40 goals and he was efficient yes very efficient yeah yeah so he loved his game he called out that came about when somebody asked about like hey i have a kid who's playing hockey and he started going off on phil kessel and i think
Starting point is 00:13:52 that was great that's cool man yeah that's really cool um matthew's thing he talked about in the captaincy uh i don't think this is controversial or anything like that but it's i think it's just fascinating. He said that the C on your jersey is to sell jerseys and for marketing. When you're in the locker room, that leadership doesn't come from management giving it to a guy. The guys in the room, they settle on who's the leader amongst themselves. And he's like, I don't know what goes on in the Leafs dressing room because I'm not there. So I can't speak directly to that. But But in terms of who has the C to the public, that might not necessarily be the C who is actually in charge of the locker room or is bringing the vibes or just what the dynamic is. Maybe there's multiple guys who run the run the room or there's one guy who's a leader there.
Starting point is 00:14:46 But this don't take too much from the C is was Wendell's advice. I mean, it requires more than one guy. The classic moment that everyone brings up is Jonathan Taves when he was really young. i can't remember he was having a tantrum for some reason and he's in the penalty box and i i think it was brent seabrook uh goes up to him to like calm him down and that's the captain like taves is the captain but you need more than one guy i i got this is such a ridiculous sentence but i got to interview serge savard and evan cornway at the same time at the 2010 olympics uh with nike and they were like on the montreal canadians we had 14 captains yeah you know like that's that's how
Starting point is 00:15:29 it has to be it can't just be one guy if you have someone who's like better than everyone else fine but that doesn't make him your leader yeah i look at like team usa at the olympics like matthews that wore the c look at the other guys in the locker room like you think that he's just commanding everybody to do everything like no austin doesn't have it today i guess guess we're no you allayed you alluded to just like a group of people in whatever setting you know there's going to be different dynamics there and it's not like oh this man is the boss and he used to lead everything because upper management said so and all like they figured out on their own i thought that was uh a good perspective from somebody who would know that clark had gilmore ander chuck
Starting point is 00:16:11 dave ellett jamie mccowan like i'm just trying to think of some of the older guys in that team and like i don't even mike gardner oh my god mike gardner yeah they should have never traded should have never traded anderson either ever mike gard he's he might be one of the most disrespected nhlers ever he had the most 30 goal seasons of all time didn't he he's part of he's one of i think eight guys in the 700 goal club yeah it's crazy mike gardner at 700 goals yep how many of you listening to this especially the younger ones just heard mike gardner's name for the first time i bet it's a less than it's a greater than zero amount of you which is shocking yeah yeah i don't think you're wrong at all no no mike gardner what's your favorite mike gardner moment
Starting point is 00:16:56 yep guys goal score consistent uh-huh i guess last one last note that sticks in my mind from the q a he talked about the second a second team in toronto because he was talking about the impact of being a maple leaf and everything's calling it biggest mark in the sport uh biggest team in the sport is it's not even close and he was saying how a second team in toronto couldn't really work in the west end uh because you'd be taking away from like the west side of the gta more so because you'd be taking away from the fans who go down to see the red wings and the teams who go down to see the sabers right so no the nhl owners would never like that because you're taking away from three market yeah so you're putting one team in there and three pretty crucial markets yeah like so it
Starting point is 00:17:43 never really made sense to him but he said if you really want to do something going north of toronto to like going up past vaughn or vaughn area like he could see a second team in toronto working there because that cluster of what is a woodbridge substantial population yep you could serve that market there and he said instantly it would become the second most profitable profitable team in the yeah probably then he said it's he alluded to like in in the yankees don't have this luxury um the lakers don't have this luxury none of these major cities have the luxury of the leafs where they have uh 20 million people to themselves right every other major team in every other league in those markets there's usually a second team in those markets and the leafs are in such a powerful
Starting point is 00:18:27 position where they have the biggest market to themselves yeah rogers is good at uh buying into markets where there is no competition um and that's why i think a second team would be great because it would force them to be competitive but you'd have to find a billionaire who would be willing to be second fiddle forever like we're talking about the mets we're talking about the clippers we're talking about the jets the brooklyn nets yeah yeah yeah right like it is it would be that brand compared to the brandon nets but they might actually win something so you know uh it's it's a listen i love that idea i think it'd be great um and i just mostly because it would force rogers to do things differently and i um you know long before rogers just buys that team too
Starting point is 00:19:10 i don't think they would i don't think they'd be allowed to buy the naming rights for the building i don't think yeah that's that would be a flex that would be amazing yeah that's fun another rogers arena well that's very cool jess here's here's pete and i uh there's the other side of the um of the top of the boat you guys look like you're having just a horrible time oh terrible day i just kept joking because we got paired up with uh another two guys they're absolute beauties we're just joking how bad of a day it was all day you know yeah and you're bad at golf too was that i said and you're bad at golf no i shot okay yeah that's that's just such a dad oh man this is terrible terrible day a lot of dad jokes didn't have any fun did you go out for lunch
Starting point is 00:19:54 and waitress is like how was your meal you're like oh i hated it and you pointed your empty plate yes obviously steve what else are we gonna do but make dad jokes around uh a wendell clark golf man if you're in the service industry you probably hear the same joke 40 million times a day oh yeah yeah and you you practice that laugh yeah how long after going home do you remember to turn the laugh off that's a good question that's a really really good question i i i the i would liken it to what we used to have to do in top 40 radio when we're hearing the same song three or four times over a five-hour shift and you're and that's every day all the time for months and years on end because certain songs just never went away like there'd be certain
Starting point is 00:20:37 ed sheeran songs like how many how many times do you think in our career jesse did we hear the song perfect from edge they're still playing it they're still playing like that's never-ending song i remember cardinal official i was on the radio when that was a hit uh dangerous with acon caught it And then we never stopped playing it until I finished radio in 2023 because we have CanCon rules. So we just never, ever. You'd hear that. Has everyone at this table met Cardinal official? Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Have you met him, Jess? I've met him. I don't think so. No. I probably had a radio. He was one of the best interviews I ever did. He's lovely. Yeah, he's a great guy.
Starting point is 00:21:14 I loved him. I asked him about, I remember that song, The Tide is High. Mm-hmm. so there were three versions of that that was great perfect there was a nicole scherzinger version from the pussycat dolls there was a rihanna version and then there's the one they settled on which was carrie hilson and i remember we played the rihanna version because we were really early on it and then it went away and i was like cardi can you tell me what happened so he told us about the nicole scherzinger version which i didn't know about and he alluded to the
Starting point is 00:21:42 fact that nicole might have been dating somebody who was high up in the record label which is how that ended up happening happens all the time um and uh then the Rihanna version for whatever reason the interview was amazing the I think it was just that she had another single and they didn't want it to chew into that single so they ended up with Carrie Hilson doing it which I think is kind of crazy and Carrie Hilson was obviously a huge songwriter and had her own career and that sort of thing too so I just fascinating guy like he's this is a guy that partied with Akon had hits with rihanna you know what i mean like that's a that's an interesting guy it is god someone make a trade oh we got stuff this morning oh no i know we got stuff oh we got stuff uh
Starting point is 00:22:23 here's the last picture of uh wendell clark's beautiful grounds here hidden you can bring this up or is that his putting green yeah so this is uh he's got a leaf chair muskoka chair and then his own personal putting green overlooking the water there's actually a bunker on that side if you want to work on your that's incredible legit bunker and then there's some of the flowers and there's a picture of the house and people just look you know what fucking good for him oh yeah like i i cannot i could not be happier for wendell clark that man deserves it he put his body and his life on the line for the absolutely trash late 80s leaps and deserves every dollar that ends up in his bank account came back twice yeah hated it so much he came back twice that's right yeah he
Starting point is 00:23:05 hated it i hated it i remember his came back i talked to him about it he was it was in edmonton and he rung one off the post and he's like yeah i actually remember that shot he's like i just remember being frustrated because it was just a little bit off but he came back down the wing and the relief fans they're rooting for him and he fucking wired one because he had a shot right oh yeah and even the foot speed the foot speed wasn't the same but the man 30 pound wood stick yeah yeah exactly sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor
Starting point is 00:23:41 to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and their way around on that is like well it's a patio window you can do that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't wanna i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing chemicals you gotta have the right chemicals see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list 15 off your first
Starting point is 00:24:22 task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app using the promo code dangle taskers across canada to book up fast especially for same day tasks get 15 off your first task right now with the promo code dangle at taskrabbit.ca or the task rabbit app you should download that taskrabbit.ca code dangle um now to get to the actual hockey news from today what do we know about kyle dubas oh man that guy loves his guys loves them nick robertson is a pittsburgh penguin and he has re-signed two years 3.25 million dollars for a guy that is i still think is capable of 25 goals if he gets the ice time yep um i think that's a good value deal i don't have the slightest problem with it
Starting point is 00:25:09 um he he traded for him because he wants him because he drafted him right well he did draft him but like he traded for him because he he gave him the contract he thinks he's capable of living up to right you know what i mean yeah like we can we can debate whether or not he's worth that like i don't think he would have been worth that on this leafs team if that makes sense yep um i agree i don't think the leafs have the same use for him that pittsburgh does no and sometimes it's just time to move on yeah it's it's time for a change they're gonna put him in a position to succeed he'll if he scores 20 goals once the contract is worth it if he scores 30 goals total over the life of the contract.
Starting point is 00:25:52 I think it's worth it. The way the cap is flying up. Yep. That's 15 goals a season. That's probably roughly what that's worth. And he's still only 24. And going to be an RFA when this expires. Holy crap.
Starting point is 00:26:05 How many times has Nick Robertson been an RFA? He might break the record for amount of contracts in the NHL, depending on how long he plays. What is the record for number of contracts by the age of 30 in the salary cap era? That's a good question. I don't know, but Nick would be up there. I can't believe he hasn't reached UFA at the end of this.
Starting point is 00:26:26 What is this, his fourth? Yeah. Possibly his third. His longest one was his ELC. Oh, agent is Andy Scott, noted friend of Alan Walsh from Octagon. Oh! Also, Leon Dreisaitl's agent. Andy's a big deal.
Starting point is 00:26:40 I didn't know Robertson was an Octagon client. I didn't either. Recent change. I think he was with, I want to say Pat Brisson. brisson and i remember looking at his client list and being like why does he have nick robertson like brisson's one of those guys who has so many clients that he doesn't i don't think he represents them all right right which is i hate that like okay puckpedia spoiled us right so now we know everyone's agent okay except for the client list of some of the biggest guys yeah
Starting point is 00:27:15 Yeah, if somebody's under CAA, it's a different kind of relationship. Yeah, oh, J.P. Berry's my agent. No, he isn't. All right. Very few of you can say J.P. Berry is my agent. Yeah, I think that just structure with the one-on-one nature with the NHL player just works differently. But here's Nick Robertson's contracts through his year. Yeah, he has had four different contracts.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Wow. And the two one years after his ELC and then now the two year. And yes, still going to be an RFA at the end of it. that's just a good deal for pittsburgh man you think yeah hey it's not bad for him either oh no oh no that's more than wendell clark made in his whole career it probably is i love to be cheeky about this and be like oh do this you know no it's well we can be cheeky too oh he does love his guys he's yeah he does and and that's that's the best part about having kyle dubas in toronto is that now we know what he's going to do in pittsburgh uh before he does it like kevin
Starting point is 00:28:07 pipetti could still probably tell you what the penguins will trade for sign for what the record will be how they will draft when's that when's that pto for michael bunting coming i think he had he had bunting in pittsburgh and moved him on i don't think it went well the second time i don't know why but i don't think it went well it might have been mike sullivan though so uh we're at that time in july what's today july 14th i'm moving on from robertson no no no no it's a part um well it's don't worry i'm keeping it don't worry i'm keeping it within the robertson family anyway my side thing is just we're in the middle of july now yeah if you're not signed i think you might be screwed rfas don't count ufas i think you might be screwed all that shit i said about
Starting point is 00:28:51 logan stanley signing for the zadorov contract i'm guessing that's what he asked for he didn't get it i don't think it's there anymore yeah we were told many times that that guy was gonna get a fortune and i think they're holding out for a fortune sometimes you screw up here's what i think i think with a guy like that specifically you have a right shot defenseman go down that's when he signs like somebody gets injured like bedard did a couple weeks ago in vancouver and it's like oh shit we're not gonna have until december we're gonna need to bring somebody in right someone's gonna get them for way cheaper than he expected yeah it's gonna be like a taylor hall situation maybe it's a big cap hit but it's like one year yeah could be you know um jesse you
Starting point is 00:29:29 had more to say on that interrupt the logan stanley conversation that's happening in the middle of the nick robertson welcome to this podcast um i think nick robertson is a good bet because 3.25 now is like the old 1.8 yeah this is about a million dollar contract and you're old thinking of it and like the covet days and if he works out there's tremendous value there plus he's still an rfa at the end of it and if he doesn't work out the cap it's so low that it really doesn't matter and i think somebody else would be willing to take a risk on him whether you're gonna move on from him or not but like if you need a healthy if this guy is your extra forward your 13th forward that's not a big deal we've seen enough in toronto where they can do that
Starting point is 00:30:09 but if he has a middle six role on this team which i think there is opportunity for um whether it's malkin and rust on the right wings or however they're doing it malkin's down the middle which probably should be uh here but i think robertson kindle robertson is all gas no breaks i freaking love that i don't know if he's a third line player more than like a one dimensional second liner and i think that's really good for 3.25 can i can i throw something in there i wonder so listen robertson really cemented himself in the roster once sheldon keith was gone and i know that you know in retrospect now you can see why they were pissed but the robertson group was super pissed that sheldon keith scratched him for game seven when matthews and neilander came back
Starting point is 00:30:55 against the Bruins in 2024. They scratch him for Noah Gregor, who then was on the ice for the Bruins game tie angle. Yeah. And it's not that Robertson had produced in that series. He hadn't.
Starting point is 00:31:04 I think he would. Zeros across the board. Zeros across the board. Like Brady Kachuk's stat line. Yeah. But he did play okay. And it was a group that was missing
Starting point is 00:31:15 Nylander and Matthews most of that series. And so he had contributed. So I understand why they were pissed about that. And they asked for the trade on July 1st, 2024. for where what i'm curious about with nick robertson is what's he look like in dan muses
Starting point is 00:31:30 system because we know with berube berube liked him and played him a lot and played him in roles that he couldn't he just wasn't fit for and also played him next to line mates that it's like well it's bobby mcmahon max domey and nick robertson the we no defense line which is fine except for when you need them they're great on a tuesday night against buffalo if you need them to score three and allow two there you go or maybe even allow four sorry pre-good buffalo i gotta i gotta adjust and it's so hard to take away anybody's stat lines from last year yes because i think the team was a mess in terms of roster construction and the way chief had everybody playing was a mess it's it's crazy because they were all really bad but he i just like i give
Starting point is 00:32:10 easton cowan his flowers because my my big thing with easton cowan is what's impressed me the most is that he survived Craig Berube and his deployment under Craig Berube. It's not that Craig's a bad guy. It's that Craig would put him in spots. I'm like, what are you doing? Yeah, you won't give those flowers to Matias Michelli.
Starting point is 00:32:25 I won't because he's... Yeah, well, you know what? I wish him the best in New York on the island. It's going to be so crazy. Yeah, first of all, I think Pete DeBoer might kill him. He might, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Pete DeBoer might, like this might be Barton Homer. Might kill him. Yeah. And healthy scratch him after a three-point night. um one of those two is going to lead the nhl in scoring after the first night of the season michelle or robertson yeah yeah that's how this works you're right that's a good point but you're
Starting point is 00:32:52 saying it's how this work nick did play well in a poor system in a poor system and and so do i think the leafs have use for nick robertson no because i think their top six is already spoken for and their bottom six is clearly there to get their top six offensive zone starts right like that's The team is built. We got two lines of score and two lines that defend. That's what we do. And maybe Jack Roslevic could give us 15 to 20 goals, hopefully. I think in Dan Mews' system, which is a much more flowy system,
Starting point is 00:33:21 I have no idea what Jim Hiller is going to do here because I don't think it's going to be the same system he played in L.A. So I don't know what Jim Hiller is going to want them to do. But I can tell you in Pittsburgh, watching Dan Mews' system in person and seeing how a Ben Kendall comes in and succeeds as a young player, seeing how an older player like Eric Carlson finds his game
Starting point is 00:33:40 in such a new way they make the playoffs they you know all of these guys that they were going to trade all of a sudden Raquel and Rust well they're staying
Starting point is 00:33:46 because we need them I am very curious to see what he can do I think the talent's there but I do think it was time for the Leafs to move on whatever the price
Starting point is 00:33:55 because I don't think he is at the end of the day to this point in his career one dimensional number one number two he didn't want to be here and you got to move on
Starting point is 00:34:04 from those guys eventually you do i don't keep them in prison i'm excited to see what he becomes playing with two different versions of just complete hockey psychopathy in sydney crosby and evgeny malkin one one is powered by just nothing but unending love and passion for the sport and then there's malkin who's powered by utter hatred yeah what if like those two guys unlock something in robertson well towards the end of his tenure with the Leafs like Robertson was a bit of a pain in the ass like he was kind of a rat a little bit um and you saw you saw it from the reaction of the players that he screwed
Starting point is 00:34:42 with they were like what are you doing yeah like when did you no way when did you become this player right you're doing here I'm I'm excited I'm well excited for Pittsburgh yeah except for when he plays us then as a guy yeah as a guy I'm excited for him as a Leaf fan please score three goals yeah i think it was a change that everybody needed and yeah i'm happy for him now his brother jason normally i wouldn't bring it up quite this way but jason robertson has filed for arbitration no longer offer sheet eligible um and i think he'll sign in dallas you know it's pretty clear that's gonna happen the way cj yeah it has to the way cj was talking about it though gave me pause and it makes me no yeah on the cj show i paused the cj show and stopped listening
Starting point is 00:35:32 and had to consider what cj had dropped in the sauna okay that was so funny by the way two two sauna shows i love it um he basically hinted that this arbitration could be the last contract jason robertson signs in dallas and it could be in the good way where he they don't go to arbitration they sign the extension they get it figured out but it sounds like dallas is like we're not paying you more than miko and he's saying rightfully well but the salary cap's up so actually i should make more than miko and he should he's right it just sounds like dallas won't do it and so either one side deal is so crazily reasonable yeah like in hindsight it's it's insane oh a million bucks more than neilander oh which also looks extremely reasonable yes it
Starting point is 00:36:19 does i think uh i think that with jace first off i think miko ranton should have stayed in colorado just want to throw that out there but anyway yeah um with jason robertson in dallas this really could be it and he really could if he does the one-year deal and they go to arbitration whatever this this could be 40 goals in your free agent and i do wonder about that because we talk about who are the big free agents this year again like who the hell signed uh right like who's the major deal that was two weeks ago and i don't remember right because there were it was just so many trades and i don't know but there was guys who were like yeah 30 goals ish like bob bobby mcmahon who was not a free agent who signed for the biggest cap it was an extension there was
Starting point is 00:37:04 a ufa like radish doesn't count no neither does bobby mcmahon right oh yeah you re-signed i don't know that's that's my point robertson to unrestricted free agency if he throws another 40 on the board that is going to be titanic and i just i want to like i the way it was being hinted at is like this could be he wants to be in dallas dallas wants to keep him they can't agree on money well that's the biggest problem if this doesn't if this continues this way and he walks and that's free agent next year holy shit so here's robertson's problem no one conducts business like that anymore like everyone gets burned everyone you don't let guys of that quality walk no one is looking at the leafs in the marner situation and going that's what we should do right yeah and
Starting point is 00:37:58 then the you know tavaris thing all those years ago the leafs losing hyman um jvr like you were an advocate of this for years you were like all this own rental shit oh it's bullshit it was the leafs sucking on their own farts it was the worst i cannot believe that the leafs let guys like bozak van reams dyke who else left uh gardner left in free agency all of those guys should have been traded with a year left they had a deal in place to send jvr to the island for travis hamannik when hamannik was good i don't remember that but then i think jvr blocked the deal i think that's what happened i don't remember where they were looking for a right shot guy right and hamannik was a uh analytics darling at that point you have to remember this is not ottawa
Starting point is 00:38:42 a long time ago um i think you can't you the leafs you what are the most underrated things about the early dubas leafs is the squandering of those assets you need to move off of those guys if you're not going to resign them i mean look at look at the way everyone's talking about sorry hayden minnesota like if if they don't get quinn done they'll get quinn done i think they're gonna get quinn done but if they don't they're gonna look stupid and that's what everyone's saying like oh my god imagine you don't get quinn done right and that's his leverage in these negotiations is well he's also a ufa and the best defenseman in the league yeah than one guy yeah but look what colorado did with ranton and no i don't think they should have
Starting point is 00:39:23 traded him obviously but they did the second best thing which was we're not sure we're going to be able to get this guy at a number that we like yep so we're going to trade him and get quality for him they did they got marty niches yep who's very very good jack drury who they then parlayed into two guys and also got a year and a half of service at a jack drury or whatever it was carolina's like let's give this a shot they ended up somehow miraculously turning that into parts of the roster that ended up winning a cup and trading him right so i just don't think that's the way business is done anymore i'd be shocked if the stars let him walk like the way this works is you get traded even if the deal stinks um to a team that you're willing to sign a long-term extension
Starting point is 00:40:15 with and the seattle extension 125 million dollars he's turned it down don't be surprised if that next team that he's willing to go to which is probably uh florida uh vegas maybe tampa uh you know don't be surprised if the deal is a little less than that because he wanted to go there brady and matthew kachuk to dallas for jason robertson like it's just it's a copycat league but it's also just that is what makes sense teams started looking around the league and going why are we okay with getting ripped off why are we okay with yeah toronto maple leafs of 2017 2018 why are you okay with that yeah like okay you're the dallas stars right you had that crazy i think it was 2017 draft yep where you get robertson and ottinger out of the first round
Starting point is 00:41:08 crazy i think that's what it was robertson might have been a second rounder um ultimately you have nothing to show for it no right you did appear in the stanley cup final i'm not saying they've been bad right you've but you feel better if you win a cup yep you spent all this year or all these years developing this guy he had a number of good seasons for you and he's just gonna walk no this is a league where you have your cake you need it too now you got to move on you got to be smart about it so dallas is just gonna get they'll either keep them or they'll get better which is pretty sweet that's my assumption this is a guy in 62 playoff games has 23 goals 52 points this is a all-round performer all the time his goal totals since since coming in the league full-time
Starting point is 00:41:55 2020 and 2021 that season was abbreviated so 51 games but he had 17 goals then he had 41 and 74 46 and 82 29 and 82 a little bit down 35 and 82 45 and 82 last season so he also was an iron man yeah he's one of the best goal scorers over that half decade they're not gonna lose him for nothing no shot that's not how the nhl works now with lane hudson and this is where i'm gonna go to jesse we were like hey it's not looking good his dad's doing podcasts from a car uh this is crazy yeah um and inevitably as you mentioned you were like hey this deal's gonna get done i was like i don't know jesse and then they settled for way less money than they should have and he's definitely getting paid underpaid by like five million dollars a year but still generational wealth
Starting point is 00:42:43 jesse jason robertson is he staying or is he going do you think they figured this out yeah this is purely guessing because i don't have inside info on like what jason robertson's thinking but steve you're right in that like this doesn't happen no where he's just gonna sign this thing and walk a day i think jim nill's too smart for that like they're they're not just gonna uh bye jason robertson this is the end of it and let's move on so i think the most likely scenario is a trade to somewhere he wants to go with that extension in place with the new team or an extension doubts like those are the one of the two if you get only two options if you get ripped off you get ripped off but like like okay i know a lot of rangers fans hate the artemi
Starting point is 00:43:29 panarin deal you got some picks i liam green tree's a very legitimate prospect you gotta get something exactly there's no case where you're just letting this thing play out and he's a ufa and that's all of it yeah you're trading him to get something back i honestly think if i were to put a bet on it he's a dallas star in the start of the 27 28 season so you think he's just gonna say i think there's an i think there's a shorter term extension that'll come for jason robertson yeah i don't think it's the full eight years that he's still eligible for to sign with dallas but i think there's like a three-year deal in there you're fighting for opportunity or you're fighting for money um nick robertson wanted a trade because he was fighting for an opportunity
Starting point is 00:44:13 so that he could earn money jason robertson doesn't need to do all that he's jason robertson if the stars find a way to come up with the money there's a first line role waiting for him basically until he retires i think yeah i i think this gets done yeah i think i just don't think it's the full max like hey here's eight eight years 120 bajillion dollars i don't think that's happening but i think it's some four three-year deal and you make him happy for now and he plays it out and then after that he's probably gone you know after all of this but like there's no confusion about what type of jason robertson you're gonna get and what player he is at this point is his career a lot of these contracts you're seeing play out even leo carlson there's
Starting point is 00:44:55 still questions on like what he's gonna be at 26 because he's not that age yet you know you're still buying those years of speculation and that we all think and know he's going to be pretty good jason robertson's here you know what he is scoring 40 plus goals every single year you are paying for that because you are getting that if i'm jason robertson there's no reason you shouldn't be offering me that contract oh yeah 18 times five he scores a goal basically every other game yep 456 games 213 and has for multiple years yep like there's more proof here than a lot of the guys you think are more deserving of that money because on those it's still the mystery box that might be a boat here is a boat in front of you this is this is my number why should i make less go my so right
Starting point is 00:45:40 here the statue i guess that's what arbitration's for yeah let me ask you this is there a chance somebody gets um uh desperate this summer and goes you know what screw it we'll take our chance we'll kawaii leonard this we'll trade for him try to get us over whatever hump we're trying to get over and we'll try to sell him on stank so that would be up to jason though does he have trade yes full no move that's why he didn't go to seattle right oh no i thought it was that he wouldn't sign the extension but okay all right right uh let me trouble check but i don't know if he's eligible for it jesse well he wouldn't go to seattle because so okay they offered okay remember when the story broke it was he has no i don't think he's got trade protection he's out of
Starting point is 00:46:22 contract he's an rfa he has no trade protection when you when you're out of contract you have no trade protection i think adam's right is that yeah if you don't have a contract how could you have protection no but it was seattle going well we're not going to do it yeah they wouldn't do it because he wouldn't sign the extension okay so he's eligible to be traded wherever he wants wherever they want to trade him they can trade him okay but look at it look at it from his perspective uh we're looking at like he wouldn't sign the extension let's look at it like that extension's not enough like based on everything that's happened right why am i signing hayden i'm sorry why am i signing for less than kirill kaprizov if i think i'm you're younger you score
Starting point is 00:47:02 more goals i recreate kirill's where the offense goes though yeah he drives offense more than i think jason and it's not this is not a slight of jason robertson kirill is the offense girl's got more start part of the offense yes yeah yeah but also it's a year in the future yeah give me my money yeah i would i i would take uh kaprizov over robert so would i no you're not looking at this like him though no currently like the contracts i'm still taking i'm still want to pay capris off today more than like that amount yes me too yeah me too yeah no no no i think it's a bad comparison no no not if i'm jason robertson it's not sir no no no me oh who would i rather have what do you think i'm on drugs what the right breeze off but if i'm him yeah i'm absolutely asking for that
Starting point is 00:47:50 or the carlson you want to ask for that which is more per year but fewer years yeah yeah no it's fair it's a if i've already said no to over 15 well and dallas doesn't like the idea of trading him without an extension in place because it decreases the value of what the trade might be worth but dallas has got to make a decision here on what they want to do kind of like what they did with maverick bork does anybody would anybody in the nhl not do that maverick bork deal 10 times out of 10 if i'd known that was available and i'm a leafs gm i'd have been like fuck that happened in the vortex of july 1st i have no idea what that trade was for i'm not even 100 certain where he went was it nashville nashville and he's resigned there for i think six years he was traded for
Starting point is 00:48:32 along with labushkin remember he's an rfa labushkin's money to nashville in exchange for a 2027 second a 2028 third from the golden knights and that is it that stinks but uh-huh i would do i would do that 10 times out of 10 yeah no that's a good old-fashioned fleecing that's pretty bad chris mcfarland deserves uh uh gm of the year potential already just for that i don't know has leverage it doesn't have yeah has leverage and and to me that why did you trade maverick bork if you're not going to keep robertson if you end up with both of both of them leaving that kind of sucks too they're going to keep robertson okay i think so all right yeah so we and yeah no there was no trade protection on his last contract either
Starting point is 00:49:15 yes i don't think he's got enough service time yeah so he's uh he can just be traded tomorrow yeah maybe that's happened uh by the way i love the random arguments from people online going well they need to ban uh no trade clauses in the nhl or if you or if you request a trade and you have one well then no trade clause is gone guys that is never going to happen no don't even waste your breath what are you talking about this is a collectively bargained agreement it's one of the only things the players have won and been able to hold on to there's no fucking way they're going to get rid of that i could see the nhl trying to because like here's the thing uh teams were spending too much money right the league wasn't viable financially at least that's the way gary
Starting point is 00:49:57 betman would look at it okay so stop it stop handing out those crazy contracts and they didn't and the gms can't help themselves so they kept doing it and so they shut the damn sport down for a year they shut the entire league down for a year and put a salary cap on it that we're still oh don't forget the half year we lost uh 15 years ago oh i know and that so that's that's oh how could i forget trying to break into this friggin business i've been seeing that come out and i'm like guys like are we intelligently are we you legitimately think that players would bargain that away i guess based on how they bargained in the past i could see why maybe you think that absolutely but there's no way that those are going anywhere and you're the nhl you it and
Starting point is 00:50:39 you're bastards remember in this scenario you're a bastard yeah you have to be just a bastard you think you can do it you think you can get away with it yeah yeah steve do you want to jog your memory on the top five contracts by cap hit that were signed this free agency oh this will be fun like it was 14 days ago can we go five to one yeah okay so do re-signings count their signing status had to be a ufa so this doesn't count darren radish doesn't count anybody signed none of that had to be you signed as a ufa under your signing status according to buckpedia number six is sergey bobrovsky that's seven million dollars so there's five people signed for more than that yes i'll give you that's number six who are the other five
Starting point is 00:51:33 i have absolutely no idea i don't either um let's let's think about this who did big things who toronto did big things but bobrovsky was the biggest radish would be the other big one but it was a trade um also if i got something wrong just forgive me that's quick no no no we're doing a segment on it we're clipping it buddy there's no freaking what are you new here okay they're forgiveness oh no we let you twist in the wind and eat your shit oh god okay so um let's think uh oh jake truba oh that is well done number five what more than jake truba at 8.25 is 8.25 for four years signing status a ufa the rangers that is number five well done adam did the rangers do anything stupid i mean yes but not that stupid
Starting point is 00:52:25 they've traded vinny dorofaev doesn't count because that was a trade and re-signing though doesn't count jesse dorofaev didn't make it to uff no no no no that was a trade rasmus anderson rasmus anderson is he's number three on the list so there's so it's someone between eight to five rasmus anderson made it to july 1st yes he did yeah so it's someone between eight to five which truman makes and rasmus makes eight five right five yeah so someone in the eight to two four maybe identical number maybe they're tied at three four okay which they are i'm getting That was your hint. So Ivan Damodov does not count.
Starting point is 00:53:05 No. No. Okay. This is an unrestricted. Right. No, I know. Rasmus Anderson, eight, five tied at number four slash three. Detroit do anything stupid.
Starting point is 00:53:15 Three, four. Same number. Same cap. Carolina. No. Florida can't. What did Buffalo do? Don't.
Starting point is 00:53:23 Buffalo. Oh, Tuck. Did Tuck go to free agency? Nope. That was a. No, that was a trade. They traded his rights for David Kompf. You know.
Starting point is 00:53:31 Right. that happened before free agency and then he so he technically re-signed with the team before free agent i can't believe you forgot these are post-july first deals i am lost i am too another defenseman who also john carlson yeah number number tied at number three yeah john carlson signed as a ufa with tampa he could have got 10 million anywhere else but he's like tampa i don't blame him so you need the boom jenner get something stupid he got five five six i think yeah he's below these guys that's really not a bad deal um the next two they're a little tricky i don't think i honestly don't think you're gonna get are they rfa deals
Starting point is 00:54:13 no they're signed as ufas but the circumstances on which they signed as ufas are um they it went unnoticed it went unnoticed yeah or it's inconsequential that they were ufas when they signed so they're re-signs sort of that made it to july 1st like rasmus anderson sort of this one is a uh centerman 27 years old who stuck around with his team makes 11.7 million dollars oh i feel like i know this i do know that number that number feels very familiar center stuck around with his team 11.7 million dollars oh my god he's number two on this list No hints. No hints from anybody. Nothing from the peanut gallery. Nothing.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Hayden's looking at us and it's not helping. It's not Minnesota. Whenever he looks at us, I'm like, there's something Minnesota that we're missing. Right. But it's not Minnesota. Someone with LA? No, they signed all the old guys, right? You gotta think about who stuck around.
Starting point is 00:55:19 Who stayed? He was on this team last year. He stayed with this team. There's a Calgary guy. Is there not? Is there not a Calgary? No. no shit not a centerman no one of my sharks oh was there an rfa deal no wait no you said no rfa deal i hate he's a ufa signing status technically like by the letter of law when do we bail when do we bail we're not bailing we're not bailing come on this is bad podcasting we gotta get this steve Bowen Byram is number one.
Starting point is 00:55:50 Oh, yeah. UFA. Bowen Byram is number one UFA signing this July 1st. Because he would have been a UFA. He signed his deal with Chicago as a UFA 12.5, six years. But there's a centerman. And you're missing number two on the list, who is very similar circumstances,
Starting point is 00:56:13 except he was not traded to this team. He just stuck around with his team and his deal came after July 1st. I'm lost. I'm completely lost. I have no idea. I mentioned this team in the Wendell Clark segment. I'm already, I don't even know. Near the beginning.
Starting point is 00:56:33 The Leafs. No, not the Leafs. The other team that Wendell said he's glad he didn't play and retire there. Nico Heischer. Nico Heischer. With the jersey. jersey nico he sure was a ufa signing because he signed after july now devils fans really hate it 11.7 million dollars so top five ufa signings this july 1st beau byram 12.5 nico he sure 11 7
Starting point is 00:56:59 anderson 8.5 carlson 8.5 and truba 8.25 i don't think anyone is appreciating how completely insane this offseason has been oh yeah no it's crazy i can't believe i remember any of this shit well apparently we don't yeah what do you mean yeah no i know i didn't remember much no every about a week into july like my wife who is extraordinarily understanding like i've been doing this for a long time she gets it she's like when are the leafs gonna leave us alone yeah that's fair and i go it doesn't appear they will yeah uh yeah this year i think they're going to be quite active now let's talk about the bruins who had some big announcements you don't want to go to the leafs because the leafs uh firings happened after last show i thought we talked
Starting point is 00:57:50 about not with uh wickenheiser's leaving oh really yeah i thought we did it broke during the show but we didn't know about wickenheiser yeah oh okay so we knew who did we know when the show party uh leech those ones which i'm i'm upset about wait hardy is gone no hardy sorry sorry not hardy no the other guy uh yeah hold on metcalf daryl daryl metcalf sorry right he's the only assistant general manager from last year who's staying yes and he got a promotion yes he did they really like him so there's so much i'm sorry yeah no it's all good um but the wickenheiser uh note the post after or we didn't get it didn't get into the show so what she said was that her and john Chaika had had conversations about her future and that then he pivoted and basically said,
Starting point is 00:58:37 well, we're moving on. And what that says to me is they asked her what she wanted to do and they looked at their plan and said, that doesn't fit what we want to do. Now, my understanding, and when you read this Instagram post, you get the sense that she feels like they didn't communicate that all that well, which tracks with John Chaika's history of not being the greatest communicator um this is something that he has to work on that he admitted that it's just for the past eight seasons it's been an incredible honor to work for the toronto maple leafs over the last few days john shika and i had several discussions about my role moving forward during those conversations my expectation was that i would be in a position to continue
Starting point is 00:59:15 to have a significant impact within the organization however it became clear that his leadership group envisioned a different path that is the classiest possible way of being like these motherfuckers yeah yeah since joining the club in 2018 i've been immensely proud of the work our player development team has accomplished i want to sincerely thank the incredibly talented individuals coaches management players who have been fortunate enough to work with alongside these eight years i am deeply grateful for the opportunity wish nothing but the best going forward and look forward to the next chapter she's gonna be great uh hayley wickenheiser will be totally fine i can understand here why she might be annoyed and i'll be honest guys based on the
Starting point is 00:59:51 history uh if you know the the story about how shane doan was let go in in arizona and and the fact that john acknowledged in his opening press conference that he didn't do any relationship building and that was a big problem the last time you know it is a as much as we were like oh it's an old boys club or it's an old hockey players club now hopefully becoming less of a boys club right um the reality of john chica is that you're sometimes going to have to be the bad guy when you to make these calls but this is an acknowledged weakness of his he is the one that came out and said this and so what it tells me is she said if i'm staying this is what i want to do this is how i see my career unfolding and he thought and his group thought that's not what we need and maybe
Starting point is 01:00:40 it could have been handled handled better but i also don't know how you let someone go and make it nice that is very true um jesus christ is that ever true uh with regard to chica most of the stuff he's done since coming on board i either like or am indifferent to um i don't know how you try to establish a winning culture fire hayley wickenheiser and get closer to your goal if that makes sense i think steve i i'm gonna disagree with you there okay um you've had eight years that's fair that is fair who else you know one of the things that you yourself always talked about a few years ago was does do any canadian gms lose their jobs true living had been in calgary for 10 years uh who was the gm in shovel day off shovel day off still has not lost jim benning
Starting point is 01:01:32 hadn't lost his job make mark bergevin hadn't lost his job like there was an era where like everyone had been there like nearly a decade yeah and then dubas had worked as an agm and then became gm not that you were advocating for him to be fired no but he was with the leafs organization nine years i think yeah so at a certain point you're like i i the way this was handled aside uh because clearly she wasn't thrilled about it um and and deserves all the respect that is coming to her and she'll be hired by an organization very quickly i have no doubt about that at a certain point you just got to call it like we need to change uh-huh and yeah we've had successes with you but not enough right and you know with leech i want to leave to the
Starting point is 01:02:18 side because i want to address uh-huh late uh later but you know with um who else uh uh who was brandon pridham brandon and that was that was a couple months like don't wasn't here that long and he was a true living guy he was assistant to the general and shika and him don't get along because of what happened in arizona least surprising thing ever derrick clancy's the other guy a lot of people forget yeah morrison's gone to dave morrison who's been here for 20 years forever at a certain point it's time for a change man and that that is the ugly harsh truth of an organization who we all all 32 fan bases can agree hasn't really done shit it's you're great and you were great here did we win no well we got to make a change that's
Starting point is 01:03:07 actually not true um the leafs were bad for nine years and then marner left and everyone retconned it into they were great right for nine years fair enough my point is unprecedented success my point is uh it's you know it's now john and matt's his world and and you know one of the things that we we heard about after um after the 24 25 playoffs the last time the least played in the playoffs was that the front office was a not only bloated but be a weird combination of people that were hired under the hunter dubas era and then the lamorello era hirings and then the dubas era hirings and then the true living era hirings and they just basically not let they'd not changed much right that's analytics that's player development that's all that stuff there hasn't
Starting point is 01:03:56 been a bloodletting like this and shanahan came on board yeah because shanny you know shanny had his guys and and and that were his people and that was what it was at i think now that that era is well and truly behind us uh which we all kind of wanted this was the inevitable outcome and we aren't gonna like every move and you know dave morrison i'm i'm i think he put in some really good drafts i think he put in some stinkers but i'm not really sure on the how much control he had like i think mark hunter being in charge of the draft was far more damaging than people really realize that austin matthews draft 2016 drafts it's a disaster outside of austin absolute fucking disaster but you know he was the guy that pushed to get mitch marr on the team so you kind of so
Starting point is 01:04:39 he was good in the high rounds awful in the in the anything beyond second round marner was always going in the top four always matthews was always it's a miracle he fell to four yeah it should he shouldn't have because it was dylan strome who went third yep yep 2016 was korshkov grunstrom wool greenway adam brooks keaton middleton and then uh names that you won't know yeah so make the nhl so austin matthews carl grunstrom and joseph wall the only legitimate nhlers grunstrom's played 339 and that's what i said and sorry anybody listening not uh jordan greenway a guy named jd greenway yes never played an nhl game yeah sorry for the confusion greenway yes i think they're brothers oh it's his brother oh there you go but yeah not the good greenway the
Starting point is 01:05:26 point is look at the marner draft look at the marner draft the marner draft uh yeah so marner was 2015 it's marner and then dermot who are the top two picks they played lots of nhl games still currently going and then tim ishov played 45 nhl games and then everybody else on that list is bracco nielsen um jerk else you won't know karosta uh karosta love like what like they're these guys you know they had a few bad ones i think they did and i'm not trying to say that that everybody has a draft where you know it's the the doubt there was a dallas draft in 2018 where everybody's played games 17 insane the the one that is perplexing to me but when i ask some questions behind the scenes it's not as perplexing people are like well mark leach just had a great draft
Starting point is 01:06:10 mark leach is the guy that found all the stars yeah for the stars if you wanted some of the mark leach draft picks i sent that through to you from hayden who put that together if you want to go through some of those names just to bolster uh his resume uh when did you send that i just sent it to you on text right now oh on text yeah it's hard to know who exactly made what decision that's also in this too it's about leadership is what it's about like how many of those players that were drafted under mark leach did he actually even go out and see and how many were like his final decision yeah like he's going out to magnetagorse can be in like oh yeah this kid in the vhl or whatever like but he was associated with some great names matthew dandano thomas
Starting point is 01:06:54 holmstrom yuri fisher pabell datzu kendrick zetterberg nick cronwell uh thomas capecchi uh hoodler fleischman philpilla erickson howard quincy franzen uh kindle abdulkader helm sean matthias uh brandon smith gus nyquist thomas tatar nick jensen riley i'm just at 2010 right callie yarncroke hey that was a good pick peter marazic um like my point is and then you go into the the dallas ones high skin and ottinger every good dallas player we know yeah delandria rupe hints oscar back uh thomas harley maverick pork the the point is here's the here's the thing that people are that maybe has not been advertised judd bracket ran the draft is that like do we know that judd bracket ran the draft because we all seem to agree that at least you know no one's
Starting point is 01:07:43 played an nhl game yet but it was it seems like a good draft the draft nerds seem to agree this was a very good draft release yeah yeah but i'm i'm still like a little skeptical on that because they don't know i mean no one does no that's the thing no so if if your confidence is like oh let's mark leach is it's okay to punt him out the door because of this imaginary thing i'm not saying it's okay because i'm not for it i'm just saying adam said it's okay judd ran it yeah uh and it was his call that that's why he was brought here so he would have taken recommendations from his amateur scouting staff but ultimately it was um it was judd's call so um you know i look at this and i go okay do i like losing mark leach is the one that stings me the most because i really have
Starting point is 01:08:33 a ton of faith in that guy when they hired judd bracket i was like but they're not gonna and then they did yeah and they waited until the draft and free agency were over too which is yeah that's tough they have to but it's also pro sports because you have to have people there through that period who can work yeah because if you fire all these people you would need to hire people in like a week to do all these things it was also kind of an important draft for them worth worth noting um there are guys who um like analytics staff who work between sports like oh i i work in the nhl i got let go now i work for a team in the mlb like there's a few examples of that so there's work that can be found but like yeah you do feel for them right yeah you do and i or maybe
Starting point is 01:09:23 you're a fan who's like i don't care just win well i i think that's where most fans are and i think you know hayley specifically extreme competitor um she's gonna find success wherever she goes whatever she does i imagine this is the first time she's ever been fired i don't think yeah yeah it's a bit of a pr hit too no of course it is the name being associated with them all weekend being like leafs don't want hayley wickenheiser that's it's not great you know No, it's not. But I think all that goes away if they start winning. And that's where I have to at least give them credit for being bold, because one of the things we've been asking for that somehow disappeared at the end of the 17-18 season when they refused to trade JVR and Bozak and those guys for assets, boldness disappeared and safety took over. and we got the same result for eight or nine years and then didn't make the playoffs this year.
Starting point is 01:10:18 At a certain point, you must move forward. You must. Now, is the fact that they only got to the first round Haley Wickenheiser's fault? No, but sometimes there's a change. And that is, like, I think Haley Wickenheiser will be great. Well, and the things she's bestowed upon this organization don't magically get etch-a-sketched and deleted.
Starting point is 01:10:38 No. Like, all the players that she's helped develop because she was involved in player development, they have that. now they have that and now someone else is going to come in and they'll have that as well new perspective yeah anyway um so that's the that's the story there uh and i do think we need it wasn't changed like this this leafs organization or have been and nobody's really written an article about it yet which i'm kind of surprised that the leafs were the most aggressive
Starting point is 01:11:06 organization in free agency and trades this year they were the most aggressive in their draft picks the kind of pics they made or whatever we've been begging for this they're giving it to us and that that means that some of it's not going to work some of these will be mistakes when you're aggressive like that that's why people don't like to be aggressive because they'll fuck up sometimes uh people are afraid to praise the leafs and i i'm not coping i mean that dead serious you i i think you can praise them for being aggressive and needing aggressive change and recognizing it actually doing it no people are uh they think it makes them look uh stupid they think it makes them look like a homer and um i've i've said this many times at sports net um there there was a
Starting point is 01:11:50 different uh there were different different opinions within the organization some people like we cannot cover the leafs or do it in a overly positive way because we're going to be seen as biased and then there were other people who are like hammer the leaf button they're what drives traffic what are you doing well i think now that's going to change because uh the company that owns them happens to own sports net so if the leaves get the jays treatment yeah i don't think any player has ever done anything wrong yeah um now let's talk about the boston bruins made some big changes to their hockey operations we don't have to spend this much time but kevin adams has been named senior advisor to the gm uh jj peterka and kevin adams working together again
Starting point is 01:12:32 and uh there's some other names uh dennis bonvey jeremy rogalski alex jimenez i don't know these guys as much but what i do know is evan gold who interviewed for the leafs job interviewed for the canucks job and the canucks offered him like no money because they don't pay very well um he is departing the organization august 1st to pursue to pursue other opportunities my hope oh it's here well there's a shitload of vacancies now well the leafs remember the leafs interviewed alfie for the head coaching job and then then he didn't get it but they're like but we still want you to be here that's right there's uh so who's it evan gold evan gold and then there's jay goldberg who is apparently coming from la from la who i keep getting told that i keep getting told that
Starting point is 01:13:21 to the other one that was rumored was chase glassberg out of utah um neil glassberg's son um who knows this is gonna be hey when are the leafs gonna leave us alone not for a while not for a while no and morgan riley like cj said it on his show he's like most likely to be traded he's been pretty steadfast on that eh yep and he's not the only one i mean frege said it too um and then you have a bunch of other guys who are like well does it make sense like just ask a bunch of questions and sound like they're like the difference between i think true insiders and everybody else is they they go well here's the percentage and then the other guys just come out and go well let's let me ask a bunch of questions
Starting point is 01:14:00 and i'll sound like i'm engaged right and i think cj and freach lining up on that the way they lined up on matthew's not being sure about coming back tells me he's probably gone right i just don't know where but only one guy got shit for it right yeah only one guy's allowed to get shit for it with evan gold he was interviewed for the leafs gm position yes you get it and then um i think when they were thinking about going in the mike gillis direction for the front office he would have been a part of that oh so if it was gillis as kind of in the chica role or some president but not president because rogers can't pay people to be president role it would have been evan gold in that kind of day-to-day operations role got it but he's their cap guru there for
Starting point is 01:14:45 for boston so i think this would be a great pickup if they're able to get him for their front office it depends i'm curious about if if he does come you know jay goldberg's the cap guy for la is he not uh i believe so yeah so you know how does that work maybe they're maybe evan's beyond being just the cat guy now too right simplifying it yeah immensely uh like um i think i'm just i'm trying to figure out like what the what his job would be like is is hardy going to continue on as marley's general manager let i anyone who's ever worked in an office knows that you're not always doing your job like i i doubt any player is going to walk up to daniel offertson be like hey so at five on five and he's going to go whoa whoa whoa whoa i'm the power play guy yeah over
Starting point is 01:15:31 there yeah i've never played five on five in my life yeah listen hockey hall of fame and all that shit whatever go talk to jim yeah it just seems like with all these firings and him clearly talking to a lot of the upper management there at mlse for the potential big honcho position it feels like it's a good fit for a data centric young guy to come in and be a gm for the leafs i'd love to see him go to uh maybe he's going to go to vancouver he interviewed there maybe they'll pay him 60 bucks and say here you go um but yeah no i think it'd be neat be real neat we'll see we'll see what happens now i want to move on to some other things dylan larkin's name uh on the cj show you should listen to the cj show's last two episodes they're really informative and they
Starting point is 01:16:12 get right to the shit and warm and steamy yeah warm and steamy because he's in a he's in a sauna but what i love about that show is they just get to it don't fuck around i don't want to hear just give me the shit all right um dylan larkin has expanded his list one team so it was vegas florida and somebody else minnesota minnesota now it includes dallas yeah and so cj's like listen man i'm not i would not be shocked if he doesn't move on this not be shocked to see him in camp to me steve eiserman um is a guy i can absolutely see doing this is it the best for the team no certainly it isn't um is he going to be the captain dylan larkin if he rolls into camp oh i mean if it's just there to sell jerseys then you should definitely not buy the dylan
Starting point is 01:17:02 larkin captain jersey um i think dylan larkin is going to have to expand this list if he's truly serious about going because it sounds like whatever those teams have to offer it's not interesting to them i have heard that at least one of them didn't value i'm not going to say which didn't really value what he brought in the same way that other teams do. Interesting. Didn't see him on the same level that perhaps he's been put.
Starting point is 01:17:26 Again, everybody's got their own pro scouting stuff. But I think, you know, when you give a team four great, you give them four options that are great teams, there's not going to be a lot of room on July 14th to absorb your contract. There's like no futures. And there's no futures left.
Starting point is 01:17:44 My first thought was strip them. Like, embarrass them. but if i'm the red wings i haven't done anything wrong you're in a contract for five years yeah anyway get out there i think have fun i think eiserman's doing everything in his right here like hey come play for us this is it i think you risk making a greater show of it by stripping him i think you leave it on him and you go i think have fun playing hockey for the detroit red i think steve eiserman is going to strip him specifically for that i think he wants it to be a thing well let's let's talk where's steve eiserman at uh should have been fired at least
Starting point is 01:18:22 two or three years ago has not been because he's steve eiserman how do we get the fans on side rah rah rah detroit this is a detroit everybody exactly you don't want to be in detroit fuck you yeah is what and that is a great way to get your fan base back on he's gonna get booed He might get booed every time he touches the puck. Oh, boy. Now, we have to be open to the possibility, gentlemen, that he goes back. Maybe he's not captain.
Starting point is 01:18:52 But things go well. Detroit makes the playoffs. He does well, and he wants to stay. It's hard to stay, Matt, right? If you're winning. Yeah. Right? If they get out to the same start that they've gotten out to the last
Starting point is 01:19:04 one, two, three, four years, and they make it through March, they might do something. He wouldn't be the first player, probably not even the first captain, to be like, yeah, never mind. I never said that. Well, there are players that rescind that. Sure. And it often ends up being the right thing for them.
Starting point is 01:19:21 Yep. If Larkin wants to come back and play for the Red Wings and act like everything's okay, do you think the fan base is okay with that? No. I think if they're winning, they don't care. I think Detroit fans just need a victory. So, Adam, that's a mighty big caveat. it'd be so hard to forget that but they but here's as much as listen on this show who's the
Starting point is 01:19:42 hardest on the red wings uh i think jesse oh yeah no detroit is capable the thing about them and the reason i don't believe in them is because they keep showing me i shouldn't right if they actually figure it out see the leafs always fuck up in april detroit fucks up in march that's way worse and and so when when i look at the red wings i go well it's clearly there you must you guys know it's clearly there it is clearly there and he was injured and they were the olympics he came back and played like shit and i get it whatever all the red wings fans who believe in the team are justified they're right yeah they're justified honestly like i saw enough for so there's a reason i walked back the red sabers thing i was like all right there they are there they are they've
Starting point is 01:20:26 arrived and then they departed immediately and to be fair uh with the sabers they were never in it until last year man detroit at least was in it the last four years the sabers never were close One day, they were the best team in the league. Yep. Oh. That's all it was. That's a good snap, by the way. Man, I can't snap like a man.
Starting point is 01:20:46 I'm not as good with the left. Yeah, I can't snap. Jesse, you got big, strong fingers. Yeah, he's... If you ever need anything open, Jesse's your man. Man. That's what we're doing. He's got strong fingers, man.
Starting point is 01:20:57 It's July. Who can snap the best? It's July. I just was impressed. I can't do that. I can wiggle my ears. I can't do that. There you go.
Starting point is 01:21:05 All right. so curious about that and curious about uh if you guys have had the chance to listen to leo carlson's agents on there there's a 32 thoughts interview oh put out so very good it is very good it's very interesting um and basically his agent said that the ducks aggressively tried to sign him at the start of the season uh and what's interesting is he would have signed at eight years nine and a half he said that publicly they tabled it until the end of the season seven eight teams were interested and philly's opera sheet surprised leo with all the upfront money um yeah i guess how do you say no no you have to and i saw again i saw ducks fans in our
Starting point is 01:21:43 comments going well he didn't choose us buddy you're telling me stop that you would choose oh i'm not gonna take 75 million dollars i'm not over five years over five years okay i'm bad at math which was which is more money the eight-year deal that he was offered or the or the five it doesn't even matter steve because this one buys one year of unrestricted free agency and he's going to be still like 27 or 28 and then he'll just sign another mega deal he can be bad and still make it up uh the the thing that i found interesting about that conversation i think the most interesting was the comparable that they outlined there and how open and honest they were about Conor Bedard was there comparable for Leo Carlson.
Starting point is 01:22:26 And a lot of reason that they told him, you don't want to sign the 10 million. I think around 10 million was on the table for him earlier in the season. And they put together a package on like, hey, you need to wait and see how this market's going to play out because Bedard needs to sign his deal.
Starting point is 01:22:39 And they thought that they were going to get to July 1st or sometime in the summer and Bedard would sign his deal. And then they would start working on Carlson's deal again and regroup with Pat Verbeek. about carlson's deal based on bedard's number because that was their closest comp and all of that was thrown out of the window when the june 30th date reached at 1204 when he got a bunch of texts from different gms being like hey we want to offer sheet him when he's officially allowed to talk to other gms about the offer sheet and he said he was sleeping at the time uh i think you
Starting point is 01:23:13 should stay up for that one next time uh he went to bed at the moment when he was eligible for the offer sheet you should probably stay up next year um when they got the four teams that were like hardcore interested in the seven or eight who just wanted to inquire they're like okay things have changed and then philly comes with that massive one and they're like okay we don't need to wait on bedard anymore let's convince his family and everything to sign this and it's leo carson's dad who was like the final push to leo to be like you need to do this this is crazy highest contract ever in the nhl so that tells you that he very much thought about anaheim yes if the contract arrives at your desk and you're even your parents are like you
Starting point is 01:23:52 you gotta do this man that tells you that he very much chose anaheim uh and wanted to stay in anaheim yeah totally it was like i'm gonna get this either way i need to sign it and hopefully anaheim matches like my hope is that anaheim wants to sign me to this contract because it's gonna be it's gonna be life-changing for me and i want to do it here in anaheim I'm a naive little boy who loves to believe in the romance of sports. No 21-year-old coming off a 67-point season is turning down $90 million with $85 million up front. I would love, you know, this is not a movie. You know, oh, no, I'm turning that down.
Starting point is 01:24:35 I'm Mr. Duck. Sorry. Yeah. No world. He's not turning that down. i don't really care about that part of it at all because like i think any rational person would look at that and be like yeah he did that i thought the comparable to bedard was the interesting point yeah because i don't think they're wrong in projecting leo carlson to be
Starting point is 01:24:54 in that neighborhood of talent i think even though their skill sets are different yep like bedard's always going to be a higher end scorer but bedard carries a name brand where you say that and you're like oh my gosh they're not the same player but if you just remove what bedard is as a name and put just player a and player b it makes so much sense that yeah those two guys are in the same neighborhood of contract in the nhl this is a second overall pick yeah i'm like okay bedard went one but just because he's conor bedard doesn't mean that leo carlson isn't in his class of future young superstar well jesse it just shows you how many and listen i'm not trying to be i'm not trying to act all high and mighty here but not a lot of people were watching ducks games
Starting point is 01:25:40 and that's fair and fine yeah but but you know to comment on this player he's just somebody who does watch ducks games goes out of my way to watch them this guy fucking rocks man he's amazing there's a west coast part of this where it's okay it's way out there games are on late thing but dart is in chicago third largest media market in north america um the whole thing about him being canadian like leo carlson just doesn't have that name uh brand to him but he's just as good he does now yeah now now it's different but yeah you're so right on the people aren't watching and paying attention and that's okay right there that's okay because you have lives and families and you probably watch your local team and that's cool but i'm just telling you and i've been saying
Starting point is 01:26:24 this for months leo carlson is him and and you know what else and and i'm going to be really picky here bedard's now had two shoulder injuries in the last six months um those are difficult to come back from and not that not that he can't or he won't because he will he'll be fine but now it's four months from right now and he's gonna so he's gonna miss camp and he also missed a good chunk of last season with a bad shoulder this is like this guy carlson's got like no injury history The great news for the Chicago Blackhawks is Landon DuPont is supposed to be really good. Yes, this is John.
Starting point is 01:27:01 No, what? He's supposed to be really good. You put him on the right side with Lev Shunov. Frank Nazer better have a big year. He literally has to. Also, didn't Carlson have a knee injury? Maybe he did. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:27:18 Steve, one thing Pete, when we were golfing around yesterday, was talking about you were saying that he was like i love that because it's so true and you don't think about it enough was when we're talking about the bedard injury on last episodes you're talking about how like the four-month injury is also living with that injury for four months yeah and now bedard's off-season training includes get it hopping on the bike and his shoulders while he's doing his bike work and he's gotta like stay off the ice for a little bit and it's not just your your injury and you come back and then all of a sudden you're just bedard again it's this whole ramp up in this time and you're living day to day with this injury
Starting point is 01:27:55 and you're an elite athlete who is used to doing elite athlete shit and you are now limited for four months yeah like imagine the like the free roam prison that you feel like you're living in right you're in this body that doesn't work properly right that that i'm supposed to be one of the top 0.1 of the world and it hurts to drink coffee like or whatever and even when it hurts and it might not hurt anymore you might not even be allowed to do stuff because the training staff said no hold off for this for another week yeah and you're sitting there just fucking frustrated because your body's telling you you should be doing things at this level and getting out all of this the cardio that you need to be doing or the strength training
Starting point is 01:28:45 and you can't do that physically or you're not allowed to i've told this story before in the very brief 0506 season that lindros was a leaf um he i think he played 33 games and he was great he was he was great in those 33 games he played it should have been mats and him mats came back he got hurt it was him and domi and if i'm not mistaken domi had a career offensive year like it was crazy and he played he was great he got hurt came back was good immediately got hurt i think he got hurt like broke his arm in the return game and they talked to him after the game and he got like tears in his eyes like just think of how frustrating that must be yeah and for this kid it sucks and you want the team to win all you want is to win now let me ask you if you're
Starting point is 01:29:35 an opposing general manager if you're the flyers for instance i know that whatever you do yes you do it well oh it could help the blackhawks well i don't give a shit they're in the western conference why don't you go 20 20.8 on bedard for three years do it why not 20.8 or four years like that's the max deal right now it's 20.8 the reason uh is because the blackhawks match it you do you do so then so then make them match it you have to offer him the same amount of years you did carlson okay even if you up the cap it so 20 20.8 times five yeah why not gives a shit you know they're gonna match it make them match it yeah but bedard has to accept it yeah you know i don't think bedard is going to accept an offer sheet you might accept that one i don't think i don't
Starting point is 01:30:22 think he would do it 40 million do unsigning hello words family i don't think bedard would do that to the blackhawks well carlson wouldn't do it to the ducks until he did we don't know until it's offered i'm i if i were to bet on if that ever happens i'd say no hey let me ask you this jesse what have the blackhawks done for bedard drafted him shit he's got you there yeah yeah i mean that was tough for them they had a real decision to make that year what have what have they done for him in his elc carlson's been surrounded by talent right you're talking you're a young fun exciting i agree in that kyle davidson is a mediocre general manager who has done a poor job building up from after the teardown and it would be really cool to play
Starting point is 01:31:12 with porter martone matvey mitchkoff and wow yeah that's i just i don't trevor zegras is i hear he's a fun guy i know he's in arbitration right now but that'll get sorted out you don't think since june 30th when nhl teams could talk to his agent about this that people haven't tried i think the injury has scared them off i'm not kidding yeah but you don't think from june 30th to when the injury happened that they haven't tried because i think they have tried and he has turned it down okay now i hope that's true but it is the nhl and they are boring no i don't think there's a lot of old dusty guys here if eight teams seven eight teams were in on carlson and checking in on the possibility of that offer sheet i think they would have asked about okay and i think he would
Starting point is 01:31:56 have said no okay do you think there's at all a consideration for if i sign for this amount of money we're never going to win anything yeah 100 like yeah but that's not yeah i'm gonna get this money but we're also never gonna win also it's not true so capital explode it's not true it is absolutely not true you wait till but you wait to mcdavid's next contract you think he's going to take a discount again i'm still waiting for you to name a cup winner yeah what do you mean oh mcdavid made it to game seven give me a fucking break man at 12 and a half oh i bet he's super happy about it too well okay all right i think if you sign what is the max 20 20.8 20.8 i think doing that it's a little limiting when the capital is still the highest
Starting point is 01:32:42 That cap will be $130 million in a few years. If that's limiting to you, you're a bad GM. You're fucking bad at this. Adam, it's the NHL. I know. Fucking A. Chalk full of them. Chalk full of them.
Starting point is 01:32:54 But if you can't figure out a top line center of Bedard's caliber at $20.8 million in order to bring that talent in, then you suck and you shouldn't be there. Carolina, save us. Carolina, save us. Eric Tulsky. If you can hear me, Eric Tulsky. Offer sheet, Conor Bedard, Eric Tulsky. eric tolsky can you hear me eric tolsky if you could hear me eric tolsky please it's funny i think tom dundon i think eric tolsky is so smart that he's he's asked about it and they said no i
Starting point is 01:33:25 hope yes they did yeah i hope he has i hope he has by the way eric tolsky is going to be a very rich man very soon whenever that contract expires um i know we were running a little low on time so i'm going to save some of this stuff uh because i've got more stuff that we can save for thursday including Peyton Krebs but we can talk about that Thursday in the meantime for people that don't know because I'm seeing this come up on the in the comments people

Also, I have an injury that might prevent me from opening cards very fast. Oh, is that right?
Starting point is 01:35:59 I got my finger glued shut. Max did that. Wow. Charlie bit me, except it was Max. Are you still talking about your thing? Do people have to pay for this? No. Okay.
Starting point is 01:36:10 I mean, if you buy cards, yeah. Yeah, but we can just go and we can watch you open cards. You can just go. And I got the World Cup stream tomorrow, England-Argentina. Yes. Part. What time is that? Three o'clock?
