You know, I don't want to say this, but like, don't blow a serious lead when you're up to nothing. knees man knees uh minnesota's very good last year yeah they deserve that championship so um and i also want to say a big happy thanksgiving to all of our american audience members uh my mother is uh celebrating thanksgiving this weekend as well as she's american too may you win all your arguments yeah may you win all your arguments uh and and uh and just know that you do have the

superior thanksgiving uh the timing the placement and the celebration you guys do it far better than we do and i am glad that i get to celebrate both because how many times do you think at the dinner table tariffs were brought up across oh it's gonna be big it's gonna be big ah i bet thanksgiving this year was terrible oh it's terrible it's like terrible but it's bad you're coming with the good stuff. First off, I would like to say that David Alter was David Alter, friend of the show. First guest we ever had, I believe, ever, ever, ever had was congratulated. congratulated and uh uh they the leaf social media crew had pins pressed in honor of david who was celebrating his 300th consecutive game covering the team in person wow in person so david alter is my press box neighbor when i'm at the game so i sit in seat 63 and he's in seat 64 and stanley kept years yes yes hopefully that's a good omen um so we are talking about this on sunday sunday game versus utah and he was like my next one my game in florida is my 300 300th consecutive game and i was like congratulations can't wait till you hit a thousand i was like

what else do you have to you'll hit a thousand who cares um but so he started this streak like little post-pandemic in 2021 and the last game he missed was a game that the Leafs had in Winnipeg during the Canadian division season right and the reason he couldn't go there was for COVID restrictions reasons I forget the exact restrictions but ever since that Winnipeg series because remember they played series during that season he hasn't missed a game home or road and it's quite the accomplishment because no one else can say that because major broadcasters don't send everybody to every single game anymore and people just have different routines with daily coverage of teams you know guys go to some games and then there'll be other people on staff who go

to different ones and alter as an independent person has committed to this and it's quite the accomplishment and he has a newsletter where he talks about his travels as a reporter which is also really cool how he gets these discounts on plane rides and hotel stays and how he works the whole schedule from the beginning of the season to the end so he can plan his entire trip to do it as cheaply as possible to make all of these games and he is a master at that stuff he loves that stuff exactly you gotta have a passion for it that's the thing he truly loves it he truly loves doing all of this stuff that's why there's a whole newsletter about it and you couldn't do this if you weren't the most passionate person in the world about it which he is he's a lunatic

about it yeah he he was one of the first people to tell me about ways and he's like oh yeah like uh i don't i don't i don't take the 401 to ottawa i'm like what you take side roads to ottawa and apparently he does it also underrated thing about his coverage like a leg up he has on i think literally every other regular reporter of the toronto maple east david alter well you can tell by that last name speaks russian what yeah so he was speaking directly to nikita grabenkin right yeah so when he does that does he like then turn around to you guys and go here's what he said no so it was mainly the the grabenkin scrum that happened uh a couple games ago when he was in there it was mainly translating the words in the questions that grabenkin might have not understood

so if say masters is there and he's like so how was that play in the third period when you had that body check david altero like be like third because maybe grabenkin doesn't understand the word third period or something so he'll come in russian and just kind of say that to him so it helped it's such a so important because you know it helps the whole conversation but he has conducted some interviews one-on-one with some guys in the past fully in russian that's telling me about that too it's come such a handy for him he was the one that broke that uh grabovsky had called uh randy carlisle an idiot remember did he really i'm pretty sure that was him where he's Like, the guy's an idiot because he was – remember he got bought out

because Randy didn't like him? He got bought out on his – On a compliance buyout? On his wedding day, I'm pretty sure. Oh, my God. Yeah. But I think the one he was telling me about was when Shoshnikov was here. He did some interviews with him in Russian.

Yes, because Shoshnikov – I got to interview him when he was with the Toronto Marlies, and the Leafs had another Russian prospect at the time named Renat Valiev who would stand next to him and translate everything for him. And it was funny because this, you know, you ask him a question, Valiev translates, Soshnikov speaks, Valiev translates it back. And he did that for a few questions. And then finally there was one where he cut Valiev off and he just goes, yeah. He just cuts him off because he understood it or whatever.

But I guess he didn't have Valiev with him when he got called up. So I don't know. Are there any others around? No. All right. Hopefully Alter can do it. Yeah. And you know he's going to be there because it's freaking David Alter.

No, Adam, I'm very happy you brought this up because I have such reverence for a reporter who's able to commit to that. 300, it's not a small thing. No, and as Luke Fox wrote in his article, it's a lot of long layovers and mediocre coffees. And I also think, like, listen, I know anybody listening to this would be like, I would give my left arm to do that. But when you get out there and you do it on the road, and you have to remember, David is not your tradition. It's not like it used to be in the past where the newspaper had an admin person who would book you on your flights

and send you your tickets and whatever. It's like, no, David has to like do this. You ever seen the show Extreme Couponing? Like that's David's journey. And again, he loves it, but it's not glamorous. Well, also like I would give my left arm as a little bit, you know, what you would have done in the fight

if you were there. Right, yeah, to put up or shut up. Yeah, we all like to think we would kick someone's ass, for sure. I'm sorry, the Leafs have a January game in Winnipeg. Are you screaming to go there? No. A lot of people listening right now are like, yes. But it's not won.

Exactly. It's years and years of that. It's not as easy as it looks on the outside looking in. The Toronto Maple Leafs lost, obviously, the game to Florida. I thought they did an okay job. Keeping it close. One thing that we should mention is that Lorenz, OEL, and Stallers,

all former Panthers, all received their Stanley Cup rings and were all in the starting lineup against Florida, which I thought was a nice Berube thing to do. Big fan. Because I was like, why is he starting the fourth line? And then it didn't kind of snap in. Oh, yeah. Jason Spezza didn't understand.

You can play? Yeah, no. No way. No, the real Babcock thing to do would be scratch lorenz yeah and i'm sure ruby would have but they have no players um so he couldn't do it i honestly watching the game that's a joke by the way uh other than a couple of penalties that you're like yeah that might have been soft and want to grab bank and i'm like that's not boarding he didn't even hit the boards but uh i didn't love that he got him directly in the numbers he did i'm not the guy's there i'm not gonna argue with a call when a guy no no no no no but here's what

it is it came after a call uh where kachuk did basically the same thing and they weren't happy about it and that is prison rules paul hockey there's two kinds of paul maurice games paul maurice team coach games there's the prison rules where nothing is called and everyone dies there's that this game wasn't that then there's oh you called my team for a thing that you're not allowed to do well this entire bench is going to be on your ass until you even it up that's paul maurice hockey baby what's the thing you did during the plus the six yeah where he knows it's like five one it was five one yeah or which he should have been fine for and wasn't but no that's your you nailed it like that's exactly what he does he gets that call first yeah i don't know

it's again it's uh what is it liar liar with jim carrey stop breaking the law asshole and but But anyway, I thought they got a fortunate call there. But at the end of the day, it's a team that has been playing really, really well that was outmatched by an elite, hungry team. Like, I'm honestly surprised the game was as close as it was. The Panthers were better. Oh, yeah. They had more talent.

Because they super should have been. Now, the one thing I did say on the stream was, don't let Sam Reinhardt shoot. he's shooting he shot 24 last year now shooting 28 that was a mistake in my opinion letting him shoot that okay who sustainably over a season and a half has ever shot 25 or more not in like not since the 80s probably why isn't that that should like if he gets to january and it's still up around 25 people like somebody needs to do an article on that it's a bananas actually we would be able to like if you did since the year like 2000 or or post lockout uh yeah it's crazy

man and like do minimum games play he's he's uh what sam reinhardt is doing is special yeah it's very it was it was crazy i'm like he touched the buck bang gone in uh and there's more and more of these like tiktok filters like you know which player would you rather and sam reinhardt came up and i was like oh really like over certain guys and then you look it's like oh no he's definitively one of the best goal scorers in hockey and kills penalties and like he belongs in lots of the same conversations that matthews is in yep just over the like matthews has been doing it for longer for sure but uh what reinhardt's done since basically the beginning of last year is crazy hey what did he resign for oh that's right 8.6 million dollars just not fair it's just

not no it's okay but now all these uh you know drew just the harbinger of of doom uh he was in the studio today and he's like hey did you see that insider trading segment where they just talked about marner and ranton's next contracts i went no he goes oh why i'm like because i really don't want to he's like oh here and he presses play and it's about them asking for 13 14 million dollars yeah and i just where's the leafs 8.6 where's where is that we live in canada we have high taxes yeah that's what i don't i hate calling out adam for his florida bias but you're talking you're raving about Sam Reinhardt when across the state

there's a guy named Braden Point. Oh, but he didn't play the Leafs. Who sucks, by the way. He's not playing the Leafs till tomorrow. That's why I didn't bring up Braden Point. Do you know how high Braden Point's shooting percentage is? I have no idea.

40.5%. Wow, that's amazing. Where does he rank? I'm not joking. Jesse, where does he rank, though, on his team in total shots? Because I want to know, like, is he just...

Doesn't he have 17 goals or something like that? That's insane. No, he has 15 goals. 40%. He's shooting 40.5%, and he has 15 goals. In terms of shots on the lightning, shots, Braden points at 7th. So wait, what is his percentage?

40.5. So there is someone who scored against the Leafs the other night who's higher, and I talked about this in the LFR video. That's insane. Jack McBain of Utah. Yeah, he's having a year. He has eight goals. Anyone want to take a guess how many shots?

Eight goals. Twelve. Because it's goofy. Eighteen. Wow, really? He has nearly... Sorry, I shouldn't have been that goofy. He has nearly scored as many goals as he's had shots saved.

He's shooting 44.4%. I had to think about that one. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, Sam Reinhardt's not even in the top five in terms of shooting percentage amongst players who've played at least 15 games. This season?

No, that's Jesse. I don't know. I was like, we're raving about Sam Reinhardt. He's not even good. We got him? He's not even good. He's not even top five. Listen to this.

Matt Duchesne's got a higher shooting percentage than Sam Reinhardt. We've got to... Oh, yeah. That means he's bad then. Yeah, Sam Reinhardt sucks. That's right. Yeah.

Ryan McLeod, higher than Sam Reinhardt. Yeah. He's shooting 30%. Man, why is this guy so bad? Why are we even talking about him? Sam Reinhardt's ass. We're wasting so much time on Sam garbage ass Reinhardt. If you guys are curious, save percentage, or save percentage,

shooting percentage amongst players who have played at least 15 games. Sam know her. It's Jack McBain at 44, Braden Point at 40, Scott Pernovich at 40, adam gaudette at 35 matt duchesne at 32 marcus felino at 30 ryan mcleod at 30 and then sam reinhardt at 27.9 so there you go uh just to add to jesse's stat so uh adam gaudette leads the nhl in shooting percentage dating back to last season among players who have uh more than nine shots um he's uh 35.5 like you just said on 31 shots sunny milano shooting 27.8 on 54 shots sam reinhardt first among players with more than 100 shots 25.2 on 294 shots braden point behind

him at 23.1 yeah i don't care about last season i don't live in the past Sam Reinhardt sucks, he's eighth True, you know what Adam asked about the all time list Charlie Simmer highest shooting percentage in a season the 1980-1981 season

he shot 32.7% he scored 56 goals highest career shooting percentage Craig Simpson, and I know that because I talked to him yeah that's uh that's one of the most famous that's hilarious there but yeah he uh it was in a hotel lobby i go uh hey did you know that you held a record and he goes career shooting he knew right away will braden point break craig simpson's record this year that's a damn good

question he's no he's played too long oh like single season yeah uh it's possible because well charlie stupid charlie simmers record but craig simpson is uh sixth there all time in a single season no someone someone brought up the uh adam gaudette stat to me they're like did you know that leaf legend adam gaudette has 11 goals this season and my question was in the nhl which i knew he was playing in the nhl and i remember watching him in the preseason i'm like i like this guy i like this guy i feel like he didn't get a shot with the least because he got hurt um holy shit like what what a career resurgence for him he's about the only thing going right in that place right now in ottawa yeah yeah they played well last game okay they

managed uh two goals on two shots and and all mark was in there saving the day how's how's the against the sharks can they get a game where they are not getting pathetically outshot and getting goaltending at the same time yeah no no that's impossible uh like i'm not sure it's happened yet Leaf game. Back to the Leaf game. What about it? It was bad. I don't want to.

Well, there wasn't too, too much more to go. Like, listen. So, Nyes and Matthews, the Matthews are coming back. Matthews' first name and Matthews' last name. Is that confirmed? Apparently, that's what's happening. Oh, dear. So, not a moment too soon.

They need some scoring in the lineup. But never has it been more obvious. And I know they lost eight. They lead the NHL with eight forwards who were injured at the same time. Uh, but the, the thing I would say is that they desperately needed another centerman. Uh, it's nice that you have guys coming in and trying to step or whatever. Uh, Minton's not, I don't think Minton's in any, like, I think they wanted Minton at the AHL level.

They didn't want to call them up this year. Uh, they didn't want, I don't think that the plan was to bring up Alex Nylander at all, especially not even this early, but at all. And then you've got, um, you know, Grebenkin who they liked in training camp, but again, And they want these guys back in the AHL. I'd like to see Minton in the same lineup as Matthews just to see how he does because he everyone's playing grossly out of their depth. Like the second line, I said this in the LFR, it's Nylander and two guys who probably don't make the lineup if it's healthy. Right.

With Holmberg and Robertson. That's insane. Holmberg isn't their answer at second line center. or second line wing or no because remember we were freaking out a couple podcasts ago because he was skating on a line with i think it was matthews and nylander as the wing it's ridiculous no top six no matter what he's no matter what they have the entire lineup playing out of their depth so it's hard to evaluate what's going on from that game when this isn't an nhl team but if your goal is to get mitten back to the ahl which they say it is well then they're gonna have

to make a move they don't have much choice because like okay you got to send down i mean minton and grabenkin are the only guys who don't require waivers yeah so they're going back first so nyes and matthews are in the lineup all right boop boop easy even if grabenkin sort of deserves a longer look yeah that's the life of a prospect though that's that's how it works what what i thought was really interesting i i never know what the narrative is going to be coming out of a game like that um and i what i never expected that game to be is nick robertson is over party yep this fan base is over it so okay is that fair though uh here's what we got to acknowledge because everyone's like man he was so good in the preseason the preseason doesn't matter oh

yeah i know preseason doesn't matter we all know that let's let's go back though he was fine last year he wasn't always in the lineup but when he was he was uh he's contributing he was like a 0.4 0.5 points a game this guy has as many points as some goalies like it i think his next game will be his 19th or 20th something like that he's got one point he's got a goal and a disallowed goal like and the disallowed goal you're still tied for assists anything like yeah i'm still i think he has zero assists yep no he has one point on the whole year it's like i wish i could be a time traveler okay nick robertson uh 20 a quarter way through the season is tied with chris crider and assists hey wow that's pretty good no no wait though devil's details yeah so am i he's tied

with chris crider and me so your eyes love koski pulled ahead of uh nick robertson in the goals race the other night with two he's got two now so like so i guess i guess what's what i'm trying to figure out it's not hey what happened between the pre-season and now i mean what happened is the game started counting and the players got better and i understand all that but oh okay like can we get them power play opportunities they're getting them on the power play okay can we get them playing with good players and playing in the top six okay well they've had that sometimes and then you have like frank conversations i think it was kipper and born where justin bourne's like what just put robertson you have six forwards out which it's now seven

if robertson can't play in the top six like we're done here uh put him put him on the second line and kipper's like what is he driving the net is he is he this is he that like there are players i've watched over the years with the marlies and you watch them and you go why isn't this guy in the nhl and then the puck goes down to their end and you go oh okay fine i get it tj brennan oh yeah i've never seen a more monster he might be the most gifted offensive defenseman i've ever seen bobby or paul coffee eric carlson screw them all tj brennan in his own end holy shit like what are you doing and um every time the leafs get hemmed in i'm like who's out there who's that that there's 89 and it's not even always his fault and but we accept that about

an offensive player if they're scoring he's not even scoring so like what am what am i missing other than like i feel like what's missing from his game that was a conversation for a month ago and now it's purely confidence you have a two-on-one with william nylander and the outcome is a weak backhand that was the worst moment a whole week i almost cried dude i laughed out loud it was it was sad i tried to spin it into a positive like he needed that shot oh yeah no we back in right into bob's chest and it was like no he needed that he needed to do that he needed to feel like he could do that every every play is just him going oh and he's upset and like it's what you know what was interesting about last season and they're not

going to do this but if i remember correctly there was a totally bizarre stretch where he would get healthy scratched and then the next game that he played he would score but he would only score in the game after he was scratched right and if they had the literal warm bodies to put into the lineup i think that would be really good for him yeah to take a night off and then go back in but they straight up don't have the horses right now right now they don't have a choice at all but to play nick robertson but it's also he's getting the opportunity because they don't have a choice to put him in the lineup and he's not seizing this opportunity well like are you replacing matthew nyes with him it's it's replacing a a jeep with a smart car like it's not the same

thing and like bobby mcmahon same thing and i'm looking at grabenkin and now that mcmahon's out And I'm like, okay, well, I mean, if you can keep him in the lineup, that makes a lot more sense to fill that hole. What hole is Nick Robertson filling? I guess that's where we're getting to with the Nick Robertson conversation. I'm not, I don't want to give up on somebody who's so young, who makes so little, who has potential. You're going to get a fifth round pick for like a guy who could do stuff. Right. But we're getting to the point where it's like, what do you do here?

because it's if you're not if nick robertson isn't scoring or generating anything offensively which he isn't he's not even like i don't remember last time he was on for where he got he's like a plus you know in terms of just being on for a goal and like what was the last game he finished as a plus in um because i think it's it's been months and so i don't know what he's doing here right what's what's your role on this team if you're not an offensive because you're not good defensively you're not a center where it's just like oh you're a good defensive center you're you're a sport winner big you're genetically not you're not big for nothing oh shit at least big for nothing players are big for nothing he's not anything right now and i it was carlo koliakovo

player i just was like not i just i'm like there's nothing here to support this administration and coaching staff loves robertson's effort yes but these he tries production ass off every uh drives me nuts here uh robertson in his first eight games was a plus in four of them um it was even plus one even minus one even plus one plus one plus one so a streak of plus one in three straight games that ended on october 24th that was the last time he was a plus in the game so when i said robertson hasn't been a plus in months i'm not exaggerating over a month over a month like uh and his dude his shots on goal are pathetic so he had he had in his last game where he was a plus against st louis he had five shots on goals and now on goal since then one one one one one one

god's sake and uh 13 27 like he's he's playing and every time you ask greg ruby about nick robertson he says i feel for the guy he's working hard he's just not getting the luck and i'm just waiting for the moment for the luck to turn around and it hasn't come yet i almost feel like you can't trade him the like what are you getting out of a nick robertson trade other than a roster spot like you that's a good point dude you gotta keep playing the guy until he gets out of this and then you reevaluate you don't sell somebody at the very bottom of their value i i bet you could wave him and not have somebody put in a claim i honestly think you're right way i think he might sneak through waivers i think he could i think the penguins scoop him up immediately

team they've won it six times in their history four of them are what the Leafs have won their division six times in their history their history is 112 years or something like that and and six times four of the times were in the 40s they had a division win in 1999 and what was the last one Steve you remember the last of Canada a made-up division yes that lasted one year and they lost anyway and and so i compare and contrast that with the montreal canadians who under mark bergman who took over in spring 2012 okay they won the division in 2012 2013 2014 2015 and 2016 2017 that's three right there that's half of all the division wins the leafs had they made the playoffs in 2012 2013 they made it again the next year they made it again the next year didn't qualify

that the following made it again the next year missed two in a row and then you get one two so out of like 10 years there he's at like seven or eight 2013 suban norris uh 2015 i think price vesna and heart yeah the price only won one vesna that seems wrong i don't that i you're asking the wrong guy like there's jack awards individual trophies as well like yeah man the habs uh but are rarely historically they are rarely bad over a sustained period of time but lebrun yeah price only has one vesna that's crazy lebrun does push him on some things about his record and i thought it was interesting he doesn't push too hard uh but talks to him about the draft record so for instance when they drafted cock and emmy in 2018 and the next guy drafted

was brady kachuk cock and emmy went third yeah and he said i look at that honestly if you remember brady had a tough season at bu he didn't score for a long time the skating was an issue and at the time in montreal uh all we heard was philip zadina zadina zadina because he was playing in halifax in the quebec league uh obviously now you say well of course and he said we didn't have any centermen in the system we were looking for a guy a guy and here's this tall lanky centerman uh he had some good hockey as a 17 year old uh cockney emmy scored a playoff ot winner for them brady kachuk has not played a playoff game yet right worth mentioning uh there was the suban weber trade which at the time seemed so shockingly bad but at the time it was hot ass but they both

went to the finals with those defense well and they went to the final with suban right away yes uh it's difficult to say weber aged better than suban because i mean both guys had to retire early uh but weber did age better he did he aged better uh yes jesse no i think i definitely think there's a great argument that montreal won that trade i oh my god yeah at the time i thought it was really really stupid yeah i think all on that trade the entire hockey world love dumping on the canadians for that trade because of what the preds did immediately after but history will show that it was not a bad trade at all for the canadians and in the end they probably won it no the immediate uh result was oh i think they fucked up yeah and no they've uh they did okay and it

depends on how you want to look at it a matter of like if you wanted to been around for the community aspect and and the star player he became and all that stuff but from a pure on ice performance weber definitely aged uh i think better in the later stages of his career right and so then i i look at at this and and so we talk about remember the sebastian ajo offer sheet uh he said ajo was the right player to give an offer sheet to but i wish i it had been through it had been through a different offer sheet would i take take that back yes but honestly at the time we thought we were getting the player based on the signing bonuses which tom dundon ended up matching it ended up being a good contract for them

were technically speaking weird one of them the haves were not in the playoffs they made the playoffs because the nhl expanded to 24 teams to allow the play-in round yeah but they didn't make the playoffs that year and they wouldn't have made the playoffs if they kept playing the season it was it was so absurd that how far they expanded down they were 24th yeah they know and they had no shot of making the playoffs that year but they but they made it through the play-in round they beat the penguins and then uh they lost to the flyers and penguins were fifth i know yeah uh and then the the the canadian division year um they were fourth of all the canadian teams they were not very good lost more games than they won if i remember yeah like it was like leafs 80s playoff

appearance lost more games than they won get you know but then these guys went to the final there's no damn excuse there's a series yeah no there isn't that there should have been an in retrospect back somebody needs to do a documentary on what the leafs should have done after that series but all that said the leafs won as many games against them as the no more games against them yeah then the jets and golden knights combined what i find what i find interesting about this though is there's a lot of credit and and deserve to being taken for his record over that time what is not really mentioned in the article is the majority of the success came at the beginning and you're and you got to look at who else was good uh boston was good uh detroit was on the waning years of

good right when they were winning when montreal was winning division titles oh yeah detroit was on the wane but they were still making they were there um and the divisions also realigned so it's hard to remember who was in what division but the leafs were ass dog the sabers were ass dog bar um the senators were good ish sometimes i can't remember in the early 2010s probably um like not and and uh and the florida panthers were the most forgettable they were forgettable you knew they were going to make the playoffs it was a guarantee hot columbus this was not a good division california was the strong part of the map back then death valley was crazy and this is even pre the lightning making the finals in like 2015 right like we're talking about and and a lot of

the players they made a conference final in 2011 oh there you go they were okay the the point i'm trying to make though is that Montreal had two guys before Bergevin Pierre Gauthier and Bob Ganey who drafted all of the players that Mark Bergevin rode to that success he inherited a team with a lot of promise and if you look at what happened after when he started making the decisions this is my drawback with Mark Bergevin and this is not like a personal thing but sounds personal does it sound personal oh i hate him personally yeah my drawback with him adam was actually happy that he couldn't see his kids yeah whoa i was rooting for it sorry adam i was just detecting the lie mark bergevin hasn't been the general manager of the montreal canadians since november

28th 2021 and i look at the puckpedia page for the montreal canadians and i still see these contracts brennan gallagher six and a half million josh anderson five and a half million Christian Dvorak that trade uh you know Joel Armia was was you know he's a guy they might scratch even now at 3.4 million and and not all of that is his fault because he didn't resign some of these guys but he signed the Gallagher deal he signed the the Anderson deal the Anderson deal looked bad from the start the Gallagher deal he's like well he'd scored 30 goals three straight years we had to pay him actually he'd scored twice and then scored 22 this is a guy that never had over 50 you know much over 50 points uh you didn't need to sign him to that you just chose to sign

him to that did bergevin do suzuki uh did he make that trade i think i think he did spectacular trade pretty good trade so there is what i'm saying is this is a very mixed record for this person and the most interesting part of this article which i have been holding back on is he is one of the guys that interviewed for the toronto job when dubas left yeah i think if someone with that kind of tenure wants to interview you take it the former general manager of a canadian team knew the leafs well because they're in the same division yeah it makes sense i just thought it was interesting i mean ultimately do i want that no but i i think it's it's i mean you you gain you gain knowledge from from the applicants you interview as well so i like i know a lot of people

hated that this is definitely me coping and talking myself into not being worried about that um but it didn't happen did it no truly and he's done good i feel like bergevin would deserve an interview because if there's a market that's more crazy than toronto it's montreal so it'd actually be like a step down from the media hoopla if he was gm of the toronto maple leaf right the last time the Leafs had a uh like a like a Habs mainstay run the show was Ken Dryden yeah that went well it went okay that went well yeah and like like you said Steve they didn't give him the job but they interviewed him which I feel like you're doing your due diligence who knows how many people they interviewed and this isn't a uh this isn't like the Leafs offering Dave Boland

the contract that he ended up taking in Florida or whatever like this isn't an offer an interview is not an offer no they talked to somebody they talked to a guy yeah yeah so i thought that was i just thought it was interesting and then of course he didn't want to say much on the logan mayu stuff but but uh um pierre lebrun said if bergevin is to become an nhl gm one day he will have to answer the question in more detail as a part of his interview process with his next nhl owner the player asked teams to not draft him and they did it anyway there's no excuse well i'm sure he'll have to make one um but it's a i just thought it was an interesting piece that essentially reads like a job interview in the athletic and it's great for pierre lebrun because he gets a great

interview with a former general manager of the montreal canadians for a decade or 12 years or whatever it was it was a crazy long time um and i think you're going to start to hear mark bergevin's name start to pop up again yeah it sounds like he's angling for another job and is doing some pr to put his name out there. Because it looks like there's going to be quite a few jobs available come this offseason. What is it, Steve? Well, I'm just trying to look at some of the players

You pay for it. on the way yeah but the amount of people who were like thank you for coming out here no one ever comes out here oh you're clueless like if if you're not going out to the east coast you are frigging clueless i'm not talking about tourism or anything i'm talking about if you need to get your your book or whatever it is in front of people that they were like hey um we haven't

had a book signing like this since chris hadfield wow who's an astronaut you're talking about content creators and brands who are trying to sell stuff that the east coast is important yes if you're not serving the east coast you're out of your mind how many hours did you spend selling or uh i signed but between the the two days of signing i signed for somewhere between seven and eight hours standing the whole time which actually helped my back and um i met four 500 people like just rough estimate people drove from two to five hours away i met people from fredericton um people from cape breton people from prince edward island who paid the bridge fee um to be there which is 50 bucks uh to cross uh that bridge um you are absolutely absolutely out

of your friggin mind if you don't visit the east coast the the anecdote i always tell the the guys who made uh the the lfr theme aberdeen oh there we go our buddy i don't i didn't know what you were doing an impression of i got to the end of it and there it is so uh aberdeen uh they were having difficulty getting booked uh in toronto because there's just so much shit and there's tons of bands clamoring for those spots they went to the east coast on tour being like i don't know let's just go out to some location and see what happens. They sold out of merch by the second day. No one knew who they were.

They just decided to come in. I was at their Halifax show. That's right. I met them there when I was working there. And was it packed or what? It was packed and nobody knew who they were, but they were like, there's a band here, we're going. Yeah, you're out of your mind if you don't serve the East Coast.

And the East Coast is not just Halifax. Yes, Newfoundlanders, I hear you. Yeah, listen, a lot of people have asked us. We get a ton of requests to go there. We get a ton of requests to go Alberta, B.C. And we want to do that. Flying within Canada is outrageously expensive because of our stupid laws about it. And it's got to make it's not that it wouldn't make financial sense, but we have to like

we have to figure out like what kind of disruption that would be. And also, let's be honest, Steve and his wife just did just have a baby. Well, we're in a year past like a year or two. Then it's like, yeah, yeah, it's a little. It's a lot easier once they cross the two- to three-year-old threshold. My wife was not pregnant when I agreed to write this book. Right. So that night.

I might not have agreed to write it. I'm kidding. Had I had that information, I probably wouldn't have written it, but now I've written it, and this is, no, this is a very busy year of my life, and it's a unique one, and it will not be repeated, and that's okay. Yeah. That's okay.
