all right so i gotta start today's show with an apology and if you caught the end of yes or last
uh last episode we were talking about a a question that came through on adam's history corner about
you know what what world empire from the past uh was most like the toronto maple leafs everything
going for it and then just kind of failed um and and so you know i started the conversation
off saying that you know all empires are inherently evil uh they take people's land
and then they say it's ours now then you're living under our rules and one of the things
that i brought up i brought up an empire called the ottoman empire and they are uh you know they
span from egypt all the way up through palestine to syria obviously the main part being in current
date turkey but they also controlled a good part of the balkans and right up until uh i think the
1700s they were into close to hungary like they're right on the border and you know when i was
talking about this it's pretty impossible these days and and obviously obviously since it's
disillusioned to talk about it and not talk about what happened with the armenian community in uh
in autumn in the ottoman territory and so uh i i specifically did not say the word genocide and i
when i went back and listened to it i'm like you're an idiot like i i adam like the show had
been posted for all of five minutes before adam was like i don't like what i said yeah i don't
like what i said i wish i could redo it the important part here is i said with respect
because i was trying not to go dark anytime you bring up the word genocide it's dark
but and i said so i said with respect to the what happened to the armenian people
you like you fucking idiot and and i'm talking about myself and and the reason for that is i've
always been a big believer that what happened in 1915 to 1918 uh was a genocide the problem is for
the armenian people that they have struggled for 100 years to get that recognized around the world
especially with the current turkish government who has always denied it like since 1922 when
they were founded and the sultanate was gone and all of that stuff so i i want to apologize to our
armenian listeners who did reach out who are amazing about education and about links and
specifically to chris who was the first one to to reach out to me in in my um direct messages and
it's funny you know i told him i said you know i've always i don't even know why i said it that
way because i've always been a proponent of this was a genocide this people were 1.5 million people
forcibly removed from their homes no food no water and then marched to nowhere that's what
happened and that's a really like bird's eye view i definitely suggest if you this is the first time
you've heard about it please look it up um and chris also he wanted me to mention something
because i told him i was going to start the show with this he said uh he said it's a small semantic
thing but ideally could you mention that the genocide was also against greeks and assyrians
as well uh assyrians are almost completely overlooked even in the genocidal even even in
people that have and governments that have recognized the genocide and he said and while
i'm not assyrian i naturally feel a strong sense of solidarity so um to uh anybody who is greek
of greek descent or armenian descent or assyrian descent my apologies to you i misspoke it was
it was completely wrong of me and and uh um chris was able to give me um a uh a charity that
i'm going to donate to today i'm going to donate three three hundred dollars to this
uh if you have the opportunity if you have some extra money uh coaf.org uh and then slash en um
he says it's the best organization obviously if you if you've been paying attention to world
events you know that armenia was recently attacked on both sides uh had to cede land uh to another
country in my view illegally and uh the the plight kind of continues and so um if you could if you
could uh donate i know that he would really appreciate that uh again it's coaf.org it's
the children of armenia fund um and uh you know any any small donation would count that would be
great. Please do it on behalf of Chris or any Armenian that you know in your life.
And I apologize. Sometimes when you're talking about history, even things that are hundreds of
years old still resonate with people today because they haven't been solved, especially
with Middle Eastern politics being as complicated as they are. So my apologies. I did want to
acknowledge that. And thank you to everybody who reached out and who was so understanding and said,
hey, listen, genocide's a key word here. We've been fighting for that distinction for a long,
long time so uh that's all i had to say on it but i just wanted to throw that out can i apologize
you and to the armenian people in my family because i consider half of my family now to be
armenian your girlfriend so yeah my girlfriend she's full armenian and that i'm in their family
now so in that moment i didn't speak up and be like hey adam like it's genocide i knew that and
i had a reluctance to so i just want to say like to the people in my life that i'm sorry for that
and the armenian i knew that too and i had the reluctance because it's the word genocide but
sometimes it's it you know it's supposed to be a happy fun podcast over the last couple weeks have
been pretty dark you don't want to say genocide on it's supposed to be a happy fun podcast and
a happy fun question and but you have to in this case you must can i apologize for knowing nothing
in general because you're like i'm going to talk about the ottoman empire and i'm like cool i'm
useless right now well i'm useless at this very moment and that's part of the problem right a lot
of that stuff given all the the the things that happened 20 years later in world war ii we've
almost forgotten world war one and we've completely forgotten what happened um and why the middle east
is why is it like the way it is today is largely what happened after the ottoman empire um
disintegrated so i think um a lot of the issues that we are faced with happened 100 years ago at
the end of world war one and we almost know nothing about them we're not taught anything
about them so anyway i i knew better and and that's where i i fucked up and you say you don't
know anything you sat back and you're like i'm useless here but that's the point of the segment
right it's to educate people on these things and that that's why we bring up these topics that
people don't know because we're trying to educate the community and we failed by not mentioning that
it was a genocide 1915 yep so my apologies uh let's get to the show so i i have to say again
hard right turn yeah get used to that um uh i have to say that i watched i watched hockey this
weekend it was great to see the leafs win we'll talk about that there's a lot of stuff to talk
to chat about but the thing that shocked me most is news that broke today what broke today well
what do you know about the islanders new arena um it has loud people in it it will have loud
people in it they're not in it yet it's not open well we'll have loud people in it i can't keep
i've been dming with them on twitter they're just they're nice people yeah um but the islanders new
arena has outraged islanders fans today why and i want you to know that i i i want i want to ask
you how likely you think this is to be able to pull off okay what do we know about islander fans
uh they will uh they have not outlawed steer uh steel chair shots to the head even though wwe has
there you go yeah okay um what else do we know uh they're they're cantankerous
they'll throw snakes at you um they're very loud they are a metallica concert but don't need
metallica what what is it like to walk through a crowd of islander fans into the arena um i like
what what goes on in the parking lot as a leafs fan or anybody anybody who's not an islanders fan
They will probably boo you and say things like, oh, we don't like you.
Oh, we disapprove of your attire.
They might say something along those lines.
Sorry for the profanity.
Here's what was released today.
And this was, you know, they basically outline, UBS Arena outlines what you're going to be able to show up in.
So taxis, limousine buses, black car services, drone car, that sort of thing.
And then they talk about parking.
yeah they tailgate tailgating and honking are not permitted in ubs arena parking lots
oh oh i see we're at the fuck around phase
and islanders fans shall be introducing them to phase two which is what find out
that is uh oh that's gonna go so poorly i really okay cool yeah i cannot wait to see how that plays
out i just thought it that's like asking bills mafia doesn't to can you guys just not could just
be bills not mafia right it's like well let's save some chairs and let me see some tables how
about here's a ray mysterio mask and a bunch of soon to be dead tables oh that's bless you for
starting the show with that thank you i thought you might find that funny uh i i just don't think
it's going to be possible right no no you can't tell them what to do no you really can't can you
oh i love that i love that very much where is their newer like specifically so string meadows
i believe uh yeah uh elmont maybe that is um so uh it's near belmont park um and it would be
uh i guess what's the closest to it i was actually looking it up because i want to go down and see it
because i think it'll be kind of cool um outside of the like queens village uh i don't know floral
park hollis woods that sort of area um and you know like it's so you've got new york brooklyn
queens and it's sort of just on the outskirts of queens near jfk like like 20 minutes from
jfk airport because that was cj's complaint remember he was talking about like his least
favorite arenas to visit or whatever and it was just it had nothing to do with the arena itself
it's just like there's nothing to do there oh yeah which islanders arena oh god this was uh
i think nassau okay i think i don't know because the the nets one isn't in the best area it's out
in it's in brooklyn isn't that barclays yeah that's barclays where they played for a second
a hot minute that one there's not too much around the arena i went there and i saw in that game
there's a um the burger place there's one there's a burger place like right outside five guys or
something yeah no it's an american only uh place but um it is it's it's a ridiculous location
because there's 25 000 people in a stadium and one burger place right outside the arena and then
everything around it is construction and there's just a lineup out the door like it's the one pizza
place outside of high school literally literally it's just a line that goes around the block it's
interesting you know it's it's just it's tough to be the other guy in new york it's tough like
you know as big as the city as everybody talks about how toronto could support another team and
they for sure could but like islanders fans are like that and mets fans are like that because
they are next to a giant right it's islanders fans know that there are there are fewer of
we're going to be louder because there's less of us we're going to band together we're the we're
the misfits and that's what i love about them is that they're so intense because they know
if they're not that intense it like rangers fans are like well if i don't show up somebody else
will exactly other fans are like if i don't show up nobody else will and like it's growing
obviously but the islander fans and mets fans are like we're the we're the forgotten i think i don't
know i've probably flip-flopped on this over the years but i don't think toronto could do it
based on that they 100 could i think they could do it corporate style but like they they wouldn't
be able to get the support of like the mets or the islanders but i think like those teams in
contract with the main team the main teams that we call them like they don't have the tenth of
support that they do like and i think that'd be the second team drawn you got to accept that
hey you're the forgotten stepchild we're the other guy yeah okay also it was a there's a shake shack
right outside of Barclays. That's what it is.
Shake Shack. That's just absolutely packed. What is it with New York
and Shake Shack? It's delicious. You go to New York, you go to Shake Shack.
I went. It's good.
It's really good.
It's really good. You know what?
I need people to stop telling me places are really good
because every time I go there, I'm like,
this is fine.
You know what I mean?
You go in expecting the best meal
of your entire life.
Best meal I've ever had in my entire life
was in
I think it was Santa Maria
California the best meal ever
best meal I've ever had in my entire life
because of a man who
was blind drunk
at a San Francisco Giants
game we so it
was Giants in San
Francisco versus Dodgers
oh that's a good game it was a good
game that's a good game so people are yelling
at each other they're giving abuse to
Dodgers fans and there's me and my
wife and they see the blue and they're about
to give it to us and they see we're wearing
Blue Jays stuff
and this was like pre this was our honeymoon in 2014 so this is like pre even the jays being
relevant and they sort of go are you lost and this one guy he was blackout drunk and he wanted
to know the story he just comes up to us with the bravery of it all and and i didn't know what to
say to him because he's like so where are you going after this so i just told him i'm like
uh we're gonna go to um monterey you know do all the monterey things and then we have one day in
santa maria just on her way to la we don't know what to do there he goes oh no you gotta go to
shaw's shaw's is the best best meal you ever had your entire life best steak best steak you ever
had your entire life so my wife and i we arrive we have a nap we wake up and we're like what do
we do and i go shaw's and we went best meal i've ever had in my entire life so he was right he was
right and i think i told this you have at shaw's it was it was a ribeye and then the next chicken
fingers because you keep saying best meal but you're not telling us what the meal is yeah is
it chicken fingers and rice sorry it was the ribeye a pop and a wheel the next morning we
still had like half of it left so we cut it up and went to mcdonald's and got dollar side salads
and continued to have the best meal of our entire life incredible on top of incredible yeah so good
and i i told this story on like a stream or something it like a couple years ago and i was
like man i wonder if shaw's is still open i'd love to go back there and i was informed that it
burned to the ground oh no so shaw's is no longer a place wow they had a fire oh that's a bummer
yeah so that's uh maybe not how i should have ended well maybe maybe they'll reopen maybe
they'll reopen maybe they will i hope they do so i can go back and have this feel my time yeah i
love um i love what your stories end with and then it burned to the ground american baseball
games are so much fun to go to because people just talk to each other we don't do that in
toronto toronto is too protestant for that we're like we're like our trip to fenway our trip to
fenway was amazing unbelievable boston fans knowing we were leaf fans knowing there was a playoff game
that night between the two teams and they were like how do we how do i show you around boston
what you have a good time oh yeah remember we were standing outside on the green was it the
green monster bar or the one on the other side no we went to the one by pesky's pole bingo because
we did a full lap around and we didn't go up the green monster we went to the others
talk to a bunch of people yeah and they were great oh yeah we're going to the bruins game
tonight rask sucks we're like why does rask suck we wish we still had that no it's garbage
shuts about that trash we hate him here it was you know toronto is very uh very very
still to this day we have we're better but we never used to do festivals or things downtown
or whatever that's only really happened in the last 30 years and you know we go to a game and
it's like everybody sit down and shut up the games on whereas you go anywhere else in the world then
they're like chanting and clapping and whatever and we're like no no shh don't interrupt i can't
hear the puck like and or and in baseball um uh it's there isn't really the way they built the
stadium in toronto and i know they're gonna they're gonna change it here eventually but
there's not really any socially convenient areas to connect with people like i what i when i went
to miami the marlins stadium which is in the middle of nowhere um is built a lot like skydome
it looks exactly like it except there's places where you you know can hang out can go this is
this is the old one no the new one oh with the big goofy thing and they don't feel it if that's
still there isn't there a club in or maybe think of the uh the dolphins day isn't there a club in
the back you know what there could be it's been a long time since i went but they had that big
goofy fountain or whatever and what i loved about the marlins thing and what i loved about going to
see a tampa bay bucks game uh going to see a lightning game with the tiki bar there's always
a place where strangers can meet so you could meet a person who's sitting front row and you
could be the person sitting last row everybody's in there together and they like you know right by
the pirate ship in tampa bay that's where the that's where you can kind of mill about we don't
have that at the ac or not at scotiabank arena really they're trying you know where they have
it at scotiabank which is so it's so elitist underground when you're sitting on the bot when
you're at the uh when you're on like the ice level seats yeah go back into during intermissions and
there's a whole mingle area but it's just for the people who have the two thousand dollar seat yes
and you and you check your two thousand dollar code at the coat check for 25 to 30 dollars every
time i've ever been in that area i'm like oh well i don't know any of you yeah it's a stadium of
it's 19 000 for hockey or whatever and it's like a thousand people get this little mingle area i
that i think yeah i think though if they were to do scotia bank arena again they would have done
it much differently it wasn't supposed to be a hockey arena like it was supposed to be a basketball
only um i'm i'm sure that one day they'll do some like i know scotia bank has come in and spent a
pile of money to make it more social so what they've done there's like a bar on the have you
seen the second floor the 200 level bar that's outside of the arena no so you can't see anything
but if you're walking the concourse um yeah there's like a spot where it was sort of used
like where the big glass pole is on the outside they've they've brought the floor out and they've
actually made a restaurant there and you can shoot like didn't i run into you at a game yeah
we were like shooting i was playing um i was playing like an arcade vr goalie yes and i
smashed my face into a pole because they gotta they gotta put like a barrier around you so you
don't go flying but i got too close to the barrier and i can't see where i'm going so i made a save
even like hit my face right metal pole so so the the the thing is like in toronto i i just
what i loved about fenway and fenway is a hundred years old or more there's places where you can
meet people and socialize yeah in toronto we don't have that and i just for our sports culture it's
coming along it's better yeah i mean you look at tfc i think tfc changed a lot more things than
people recognize here oh okay hey guys can you sit down uh well here tell you what how about
here's a road flare yeah and i won't i'm throwing it on the field now yeah yeah yeah that's that uh
tfc changed a lot here and got people excited like a gorgeous stadium it's amazing they did it
yeah yeah it's too cold because it's so close to the lake but it's still a gorgeous place to
i just need a man up a freeze yeah be shorts guy show up and be shorts guy um i but i taking
going back to the islanders thing for just a second you know i think that's you know the
honking for the islanders i don't know why you get rid of that i guess that there are probably
bylaws and it's probably a neighborhood nearby that would be disturbed by that but that is the
kind of stuff that brings people to the game is the experience you like i go to the steelers
pre-pandemic every year and one of the things i love watching is the gateway clipper
cross the uh is it the monongahela river or whatever it is and they and they there's five
thousand people on this thing and you can hear them chanting from across the river and it just
kind of and then all of a sudden they all kind of pile
off and you see the boats pulling up and
setting up their tents and getting ready and
it's an all day thing
it becomes like a religion
and I understand football is once a week but man
the Islanders they are one of the only
teams out there that actually has an
outdoor culture for hockey
and we're going to get rid of that
no way they're not going to let that happen
I mean hey
we're going to come in here and we're going to take away
everything that sets you apart and makes you special
and it's going to be the same
that's where you expect the same result everyone's gonna be happy everyone's gonna love this all
right have fun and islanders fans like i said this is the fuck around phase and i cannot wait
for whenever phase two is did you um did you guys see jack eichel get off but get out of the uh
the the stretch limo in vegas yes i did incredible you know no i haven't seen oh it's great no
offense buffalo but um i haven't seen that in buffalo so they do i haven't seen that in toronto
No, I haven't seen that anywhere.
It's the only kind of treatment you could get in Vegas.
I think that they did this, they started this when, you know, when the original team arrived
and then they've just done it for everybody who's like notable and big acquisition.
I think they did it for Petrangelo last year and he gets out of the car and immediately
somebody's like, here's a hat.
Yeah.
So put on the hat and then they're shiny hat and they're banging the drums and the, and
like the whole arena staff is there like clapping them into his hotel.
and i just i just thought man like as much as vegas's front office is cold as ice to players
cold as ice boy do they make an entrance it's it has to be this is the pressure of being vegas
right oh jesse's found it the pressure of being it wasn't a limo because oh it's an suv exaggerating
it's like a big car and cheerleaders and like the mascot and people banging stuff and
okay maybe it wasn't a limo sorry it was just another vehicle he's getting off the plane he
probably had a long flight yeah leave him alone yeah like out of the way he's a hero like spider
man or whatever see like it's just it's just seems like it's fun right but like when we talk
about vegas feeling the pressure to be vegas i don't think they feel this pressure i think it's
is kind of how they are yeah it's a it's it's what sets them apart and i love this because um
as a fan watching this look at that all i could think was man if i was jack eichel how much fun
would that be after them like just terrible summer i just had it couldn't have been fun
couldn't have been fun but now you know what i'm on a team that wants to win now and can
uh i uh they're still saying three to five months for him though yeah no but he can also get a
surgery it's three to five months till he can play but it's a lot sooner than that to be pain-free
you know what i mean or be in less pain yeah so that'll be really good for him and you know i i
think you maybe uh once you're in that state of mind you kind of go yeah i'm jack eichel and you
kind of remember that you're jack eichel and you make 10 million dollars and you know what life's
not so bad you get your groove back yeah i like that i like it a lot uh before we move on too far
and we're since we're talking about the other markets thing and how other cities are reacting
to teams and that sort of stuff can i update the la conversation we had from yesterday because we
had a whole conversation on our discord about how uh the la community reacts to kings players
oh oh we talked about that so the context is like can can you be a kings player and grocery shop
yeah yeah so because la is full of stars so our la uh members of our discord they were they let us
know what happens with kings players around la so this is from basic potatoes they said uh socal
hockey fan the kings and ducks players are not sports celebrities at all when you are competing
with two nfl two mlb two nba and two mls franchise all of uh which are somewhat successful to
championship caliber teams the kings and ducks even in their height during the early 2010s
didn't really move the needle down here dowdy quick brown and kopitar are just middling
successful people in a city full of multi multi-millionaires and billionaires and then
uh aguin92 followed up and says that's a funny thing i once went to a galaxy game back in 2011
someone gave us free tickets i believe didn't really know what was going on it may have been
a championship game or something we were so bored out of our mind watching that we left halfway
through to me it doesn't match the experience of a king's game at stable center um and then they
on to say um i highly doubt anyone in la would recognize kopitar out of nowhere lebron or gretzky
he ain't well paid to live in the area no one would recognize him and can live a decent private
life what a life i will also say that ducks are well known and left in a well known enough in the
orange county area that in uh john wayne airport in santa santa clara i think they're yeah they uh
They forgot the C and the L there.
They have a jersey display where it details
the history of all the jerseys
in the Ducks history. Santa Ara.
So there you go.
Not celebrities is the consensus
from the community in LA. That's not surprising.
I don't know how you could...
Like, who passes... You have to be
LeBron level to pass as a celebrity in LA.
Yeah. You do.
I guess they'll just have to settle for being rich
and live in a warm place.
They don't get the celebrity aspect of it.
Bummer, right? Yeah.
hockey players hate that yeah i know i know if there's anything hockey players hate it's the
ability to be rich and also keep a low profile apparently uh jake muzzin walked into the dressing
room today because the least we're going to take on the kings and all the la media is there he's
like what's up guys and then gave everybody a bunch of hug oh which is kind of cool that's
nice i think they were like who are you oh stop it no they know who are you what are you doing here
You should tease the story that's in Tomorrow's Agent Provocateur about other media not recognizing hockey guys.
Because it's a thing if you're not from America.
Hockey is just not as important.
Let's be honest here.
You know?
All right.
So Tomorrow's Guest, and I'm not going to tell you who it is, along with Alan, have a story together.
and
the person
mixed Alan up
with a legend of
this town
and this town
first off if this person had been
a legend in Toronto
they'd be on the brass statue that's how big this
person was but this market
was an absolute mess before this player got
there and so what's great about
tomorrow's show is you're going to find out what it's like to be
you know meet
somebody uh who at 19 who becomes your agent and then you're going to find out what it's like to
kind of get into the the nhl at a young age and then have your final contract expire and you play
perfectly great and your team goes we just don't want to keep you and then they say to the agent
and this is what this is what so i'm so excited to talk about this because alan has told me
multiple stories about this the agent being involved in the trade who's working the phones
harder the agent or the gm and and alan finally get an answer we finally get an answer on some
of that not all of it but some of it and and in this i think every case is different but then
there's a point with a press conference that i think you're at the story is so good it's so good
yeah you're gonna absolutely love it and you're not gonna believe what city it happened into
so yeah it's uh it honestly uh the response to that show by the way has been amazing thank you
for for listening and for watching it um you know the the two episodes that have come out so far
have been pretty meaty and uh and honestly that it's great storytelling and and it's fun and what
i like about it is that it's a bit of a departure from shows like ours which are everyday news right
we talk about what's in the news right and and this one is more more along the lines of just
some really great storytelling fun fun fun fun like a good yarn yeah and a good one about hockey
because you you you almost sometimes when you get too stuck in the news cycle you forget oh i love
this yeah 100 100 you know there isn't a trade every day i'm not thrilled yeah yeah if there
isn't a game or trade i'm bored no it's good to have a story yeah good to have us yeah the
leafs haven't played for a few days and they haven't traded justin hall i'm miserable
oh steve you want them to trade justin hall i didn't say that i said i wanted to trade
any trade are you doing a meetup with everybody at the game tonight i don't know if that's a
great idea why not why don't you make a big hoopla about steve dangle just well because i mean
first of all that's what i plan on doing to get parking i go steve dangle needs a parking space
i re-listened to that bit again the other day and i'm still mad at you guys that was very funny um
yeah i don't know i don't know it's like if you see me you see me but i don't it's still covid
so i don't know i feel it just feels weird like when we went to that um york united game
in the summer i was just like i don't i don't know how to exist in this environment i don't
remember how to do this yeah at all once that was weird yeah right i think tonight after you do the
game because you're gonna be at the game tonight um i think once you do the game tonight you're
gonna ease a little and you'll be like oh yeah i'm back let me get my sea legs back it's also
kind of cool that we as of today the border's open between we can drive now oh yeah as of today
as of this morning so we could go to detroit for a game we could go to buffalo for a game
do you have to show a rapid test or something yeah they want i think the american border
communities are asking for that to be dropped because if you're vaccinated you don't you
shouldn't need a pcr test but i don't i'm not getting into the politics of that i don't i'm
not interested um but i think that eventually you know you'll get a pcr test from like shoppers
drug mart and go but eventually what'll happen is they'll drop that and you can be able to just do
it important question what if you are immunized by horse medicine good question is that does that
count can i cross and you gotta consult your good friends when it comes to medical matters
i don't want to talk about that i don't want to talk about that interview
that it broke after our last episode and i was just like we could do an entire episode
on how he sounds like a like a stereotypical character from like big mouth one thing i do
from facebook from or that aaron yeah and we're talking about the aaron rogers interview on pat
mcafee and i love we don't have to do i think that no i just think the pat mcafee show is like
that guy's killing it oh yeah absolutely like he's awesome he's so good yeah he had like 77 000
live viewers for a youtube show yeah he's unbelievable unbelievable but what's great
about him uh is that he makes every guest feel comfortable it's like the dan patrick effect same
same thing you get shit out of people those guys get stuff out of people and i'm like
i don't know how you do that but you there's no one else that can do that do you think there's
a worry now if you're him that he got a guest to relax so much that he revealed too much and
now the next few are going to be reserved no i think it's a howard stern so what he's done that's
been genius with uh aaron rogers that every tuesday he's had rogers on throughout the entire
summer throughout the entire year every tuesday aaron rogers comes on the show and they just
shoot the shit so now when aaron rogers's headline time he he's his buddy he goes on there and he
reads his diatribe from facebook and he gets out his immunization records you know so pat mcafee
he built that relationship and now when the big celebrity who's just your buddy on the show
has the big news you get the exclusive he's doing a great job love everything he's doing yeah that's
a it's a great show uh if you haven't checked it out highly highly highly recommend uh but yeah
that that interview was a little bit like it was a bingo card yeah it was entertaining he played
all the hits one of the most entertaining interviews i've ever seen in my entire life
and it was so funny because i was like quote tweeting some of the stuff that aaron rogers
said and then people were like you need to watch it i'm like i'm fucking watching it live are you
kidding me he said this why are you mad at me for the thing that he said the quotes are exactly what
it comes across exactly how it reads the one part i did miss i was like did did anyone ask
him if the earth was flat and i tweeted that they're like actually he addressed that within
the first five minutes he says he makes it uh no he doesn't okay but if you have to ask the question
maybe do a little bit yeah no one's ever asked me my opinion diagonal no no no one's ever asked
me my opinion on whether the earth is flat or round and i think there's probably a reason for
that i think you probably can deduce what i think people are gonna start asking on record circle on
record sphere it's a sphere yeah it's a flat flat circle like time which i don't understand why do
people keep saying that from true detective season two with matthew mcconaughey which is the bad
season no no that's the best that's the best i think it was it might have been season one i
forget which one is matthew mcconaughey was season one season two is the vince vaughn one and it's
not good yes okay you gotta correct yes season one is unbelievable one of the best seasons of
television matthew mcconaughey's times a flat circle in his matthew mcconaughey way that's
where that's from you're not talking about yellowstone and i'm i'm upset did you watch it
i did two episodes last night and succession came out last night big big night for tv
apparently i need to watch succession you do need to it's um it's going to take a bit to get into
but everybody's the villain i'm shocked that you don't have your game of thrones approach
to succession oh yeah i'm right just shut it because people like it i'm shocked you're willing
to watch it and you didn't sit here and say ah everybody's been saying these things about
succession to be clear i'm humoring you like i don't think i'll be doing i think you should
watch it because i think you would be really good at doing impressions of the characters on
succession for that reason i feel like you should like there's there's they're all super distinct
and it's yeah it's worth it it's worth it for steve's impressions i think because you do good
impressions i do that's what happens in high school when you come home and make faces in
the mirror instead of talking to girls you know you're never gonna watch it i know i want you to
at least i want you to at least i want him to know kendall's kendall's like the way kendall
talks is so unique i want you to he's not gonna do it it's really i don't know man it's so good
so good there's some good tiktoks on it too um yellowstone rules uh it takes everybody asked
me about that they're like you know why do you watch that show i only got two episodes it takes
like five i thought it was goofy for the first five and then six episode i was like okay yeah
i am john dutton now yes hi can you give me a show that is exactly red dead redemption meets
grand theft auto all right thank you that's exactly what it is yep and that's why i love it
so much yeah oh yeah i love it a big old bunch um two and five canadians will hear the words

so i uh the leafs played boston on saturday and you know it was the first time that sheldon keith
had ever coached against the bruins as the leafs head coach undefeated
and the least looked really good whoo they i thought they did what was the stat in the last
four or five games the big four have 36 points combined they have the leafs last 12 goals and
And Mitch Marner leads them in points.
Incredible.
I mean, there it is, everyone.
That's what, honestly, I feel like,
I understand why people get on them
when they're not playing well.
Because I think we all can recognize
there's the pro-Marner faction
and the anti-Marner faction.
Of course.
But I think we all could recognize
that the Leafs go as their stars go.
So the reason people get on the stars
is because if you don't fucking score,
we don't have anybody.
Yeah.
Like, you need to.
You understand?
Like, it just feels that it's that unique sort of thing
about the Leafs, the way they're constructed,
is it's not coming from line...
It might come from line four
because Jason Spezza plays on that line.
Yes.
But you're not going to win a lot of games,
you know, with line three out there
with, you know, the stunning combo
of Simmons, Kasha, Kampf, or whatever it is.
Simmons, who's had a nice little streak, too.
He's gotten so unlucky with finishing in the net.
Simmons, Spezza, Ritchie.
Ritchie, Ritchie.
yeah who i i and engvall sometimes i like the convo or combo i do and ang vegas so they they
took what was interesting is they took kasha off the power play because they want to give
pure engvall an extended look on the power play early in the season and i wanted to ask the
question i saw that quote come up that's a sheldon keith set came out and said it why
uh the power play was ass and also kasha had a really good uh not kasha engvall
had a really good end to the preseason so maybe they're giving him an honest shot they're
evaluating they're evaluating guys right now there are guys playing for the right to stay on this
team like with a roster spot and also just not getting traded well can you trade oh jesus jesse
what happened are you okay are we still working does it work we're all good oh shit he knocked
over the whole the whole soundboard yeah okay all right everything you're good does the show
still work yeah oh show's still going all right he got he got some good equipment i i that's so
funny if you see jesse's butt walking across the screen too you know why um you know this is the
thing did you knock that camera over it's like oh okay when everybody's rolling uh the lines don't
look so bad uh i've just steve i need you to focus i got it together sorry he doesn't when
everybody's rolling the lines don't look so bad obviously when the guys who should score are and
it's like we don't need them go all going like this at once it's nice but if we can have two
a four at all times that'd be great there there aren't too many nights where the bottom six have
looked bad to me it's just when they're good or bad but the stars aren't going it doesn't matter
you know what i mean like i what i noticed about the bruins game is the fourth line was good and
so were the leafs like it if they don't go the team doesn't go that it's as it's as simple as
that now does it support the frustrated faction of leaf fans though that they're doing well now
because the a lot of the frustrated fans i've seen there's the fans who think they just suck
and this group stinks and they're never going to be able to do it we're not going to be able
to please them but there's the people who with this group they say and this is probably the
dubious camp this is probably exactly what people who work within the team say it's all in their
head mitch marner gets exactly one cookie one cookie and he's ridden it for five straight games
and that goal that he scored remember we talked about it you guys were like he wasn't even great
afterwards but we were talking about the time you get that one goal all of a sudden things change
and they're having the most fun and it just so happened that tavaris got one and matthew's got
one and willie's in there and i'm looking at their numbers improve as people said they inevitably
would and i'm still being the grumpy stickler going yeah but they're doing things that help
their numbers improve they're shooting from places that are you know dangerous and like
they're getting to the front of the net getting behind defenses get getting to the front of the
net um marner is playing with a hunger like this genuine hunger tavaris knows how to turn into a
ghost and just make defenders forget he exists scoring yes matthews like is maybe the most
understandable him just you know trying to figure out life post-surgery and he looks fine now you
know and it took a little bit um i think the new d pairs are helping a little bit i think we can
I think one thing that we can do is,
is we can stop giving credence to stories that criticize John Tavares for
anything.
Like I,
I don't know.
And I've,
I've been on this forever,
but like,
I don't know why he seems to take so much criticism.
He's always come here and always been John Tavares.
There have been times where he's looked a little slower,
but foot speed was always an issue for John Tavares.
If you'd been paying attention,
the guys right now,
his face off percentage is 60%.
he's he's 12 points he's leading the the team in goals and assists he's never going to play
a style of game that if he doesn't score you're going to be like he had a great game
you know what i mean just visually but it's not the beautiful game with john tavaris no you pay
money to watch austin matthews and mitch marner yes but i always say if you want to learn hockey
watch john tavaris he's he's a good guy to watch um you know you have to watch him a little harder
okay that shift where he scored one of his goals i don't remember which one it was the one where
he came out of the box yeah so i think that would have been the the third period i was just like
that's thank you john textbook thank you bless you john but well it wasn't just textbook that
was the best it was the it was the toughest i've seen him in a leaf uniform like fuck yeah john
god damn it do that every night and please do that in the playoffs like
if and i'm sorry we do have to go back to it i'm sorry leafs get that john like that looks like
playoff john that john shows up and doesn't get injured in the montreal series it's curtains
it's curtains yeah you wouldn't have a chance that's a that's a square on the bingo card
i don't care i don't care that should be the middle square eventually we got to move past it
i know but it's game 12 what's the border what's the line i would have said when the season started
but i guess no you gotta you gotta give you gotta give fans a little bit more time than that
so i don't know december 1st then like after december 1st i don't want to hear about losing
montreal and what if all right we got three weeks everyone buckle up three weeks of this shit
for me nothing but nothing but the Leafs would have beat the Habs if John Tavares was healthy
nothing but no but he he he looks as good as we've ever seen him and that was a legitimate worry
heading into this season is how is he going to bounce back from this injury and then he starts
slow and the team starts slow and I mean this fan base is built out of I mean smog and anxiety
basically and uh we weren't sure matthews is coming off a wrist surgery how's he gonna be
tavaris is coming off of uh you know severe concussion how's he gonna be and then mitch
is playing unsure willie can't carry the whole damn team so everyone was worried and now there's
no reason to worry um i until everybody's worried until jack campbell gets injured because they
signed a goalie they maybe shouldn't have well so that was gonna be my next thing um uh are we
concerned about peter marazic signing a three-year contract and playing exactly five periods before
mid-december oh adam i'm always concerned perhaps that's that's not uh the right question um am am
i am i we're we're having that conversation too early uh i don't think we're having that
conversation too early no no okay you're right but i think it's it's uh the conversation we
should have second because the conversation we we should have second is was that a bad contract
the conversation we should have first is what the fuck do they do yeah literally what do they do
excited for joseph wall no no i'm not excited for him hope he doesn't play oh oh i'm excited for him
yeah that's what i mean excited for him i he seems like a great guy he's he's the personality
wise he's the second coming of james reimer jack campbell he's a lovely boy he is a lovely boy
but he has had a brutal time developing after a promising ncaa career because hockey has been
all over the goddamn play last year joseph wall should have probably been the starter from the
newfoundland growlers and killed it yeah he should have been great doing what keith petrozzelli's
doing down there he's arguably the best goal in the echl right now just yeah and great yep and he
should have been the starter down there getting lots of reps fill in for the marlies where needed
and hopefully improve over time that he hasn't been able to do that and throwing him into an
nhl game i think would i'm assuming he's just up right sorry he's just up and he's gonna sit
on the bench and if he's in jack can't play every game hutch i kind of think no i don't know how
waivers works in this scenario because once you clear waivers i don't think it's for like a month
you're okay yeah you don't have to clear for another 30 days i think part of the reason
wool is up unless there's an injury that i don't know about is they're worried about losing hutch
because i don't know if you've noticed but there's some teams with some really shitty goalies
yeah losing michael hutchinson would be catastrophic for this team yeah we we've
gone from man i don't really like this guy very much to holy shit life without him could be a
disaster can you drag curtis mcelhenney out of retirement honestly they might have to do something
like that where they sign a previously retired guy because i don't think wool is it uh at the
moment call grin is a guess just guess and then you start getting into okay do we give petrozele
an nhl deal and if that's your answer i don't think it's a particularly good one either because
there's another wild card you don't have any solid answers right after jack campbell uh on the subject
of jack campbell i got into this conversation last night with uh chris johnson and julian mckenzie
from the Chris Johnson show.
We're talking about Olympic goaltenders.
Canada's prospects don't look great.
We got Marc-Andre Fleury who's struggling.
Hopefully he gets it together,
although they did get their win.
Carey Price who hasn't played yet,
who's returning to the team.
And Darcy Kemper who's injured
and not playing great.
So it's already not super good,
but you know who does look good for?
Team USA.
Conor Hellebuck obviously the starter
There's like four or five goalies
They could choose from but how long before
We start talking about Jack Campbell in that conversation
Let me run this by you
Also just before we move on to that
You didn't mention Jordan Pennington who's probably going to be the starter
Oh for Team Canada yeah
Yeah well
Maybe we can fake punch our way to the top
Well fighting's not allowed in the Olympics
But almost fighting is
So he's fine
Him and Marchand on the same team
I can cheer for that
Oh, you know what?
Rats are good.
Jack Campbell, though, won 11 straight games
last year to start the season.
This year, he has started a 6-2
and one overtime loss.
A 1-8-8 goals against
average and a save percentage at 9-36.
That is stupid.
Now, Chris did mention
that when we were talking about it
that, you know, what if Team USA
goes, okay, we've got a couple of veteran goalies
who are already pretty good.
Do we want to bring Jack Campbell
or do we want to bring a guy like spencer knight who is playing well deserves his spot in florida
and you know we see him as the next guy he's the next connor halibut that is what those programs
tend to do or at least put hockey canada but like how do you if jack campbell's playing like this
sorry okay right now people are yelling at me hockey canada does not go with the young guy
no they pick exactly one young guy they do right and spencer knight strikes me as the type
um if i were hockey usa i would um probably try that i'd probably go spencer knight
connor hellebuck and i don't remember who else um it but jack campbell will remain in the
conversation he's got to remain he's got to be in it for longer than 12 games to get his shot right
because i think they've these guys make their minds up months and months and months prior to
the olympics so he's got to find a way to weasel into that so it would be hellebuck gibson demko
spencer knight jack campbell oh he's he doesn't have a shot but what if he continues these numbers
how do you say no he doesn't crack the top three already he's like just say no yeah he's even if
he continues this it's it's february you know they're gonna pick the roster by what end of
december mid-december ish i don't know when the deadline january it got me thinking and this
probably this will never happen because toronto maple leafs don't win awards especially voted on
awards right jack campbell continues these numbers he's going to be in the vesna conversation
and i wouldn't be hilarious that a goalie that didn't make the olympic team won the vesna
just for chaos after a goalie who won the vesna got traded for nothing
the i'll tell you what is in campbell's favor is you need to have uh friends in high places
who can campaign for you austin matthews going hey this jack campbell guy is pretty good could
be good for his case is austin matthews good enough to campaign i'm kidding i mean he did
get named to the team i don't know i don't know what he would sound like i can't do an austin
matthews impression but he does to me sound exactly like phil kessel in certain situations
yeah you know both that that dry sort of you know yeah camp was pretty good um timothy lilligran's
looking pretty good too he's looking pretty good i like the fact that marshan took the penalty on
him and lilligard went to the box yeah that was a funny moment that was a funny moment
it was great on stream because i can't hear what the commentators are saying so sometimes i'm just
guessing and then i see him getting out of the box and marchand getting in i'm like this is my
favorite thing ever did you get upset when he went to the box and you're like there wasn't even a
penalty on him well no because i i didn't understand the sequence like it was one of those battles
where if the defenseman is in front of the net and so is the forward i'm like oh the defenseman's
getting the penalty right and then i watched it back and i see the whole sequence of them getting
in and out of the box i'm like this is christmas the leafs are getting a power play when i thought
they were getting a penalty kill and it's marshan going to serve it this is the best oh it's the
best do you get the ice feet at all do you get any sound or is it just you it's just me you and
and and a muted television essentially yeah wow the uh it makes it better when you're watching
you can hear the commentary and steve yes yes so yeah it's but it makes it it's better just from a
it's a truly unique experience i think for the viewer because like i don't know you never hear
craig simpson go i don't know i don't know what happened there i don't know i have to see it again
that's true that's true it helps to be there too i think like if you're there it's probably a
little bit different um lastly i don't know if you saw this but the flames booed the absolute
flames fans before we move on from the game yeah what did you guys think of the taveras
marner uh off the net goal is the right call wrong call it's the right call what i was upset
about so i during the stream i'm like i cannot wait to hear jack edwards reaction to this
and hear him go ballistic and he actually had a very level-headed reaction and it was the best
reaction the ref skates the center ice and goes uh the puck entered the net legally we have a good
goal and uh edwards basically goes that's so that's it then that's that's the blanket statement
is that the puck entered the net legally right and what i said was take 20 you just reviewed
that for five minutes take an additional 20 seconds to explain the rule and so someone tweeted
me they're like well this is the rule do you want them to just read directly from the nhl rule book
and then i read it in less than 20 seconds and said yes it's also something that happens every
single sunday uh during nfl football when the play is reviewed and the referee walks back to the
middle of the field and he explains what happened in the review he says this is why it wasn't a
catch because the runner did not maintain control in this instance and it takes literally 10 seconds
yeah like i'm trying to find it right now god i retweeted myself a lot for that uh leafs uh feature
i don't know if we're going to talk about that later in the show but based on the rule like you
know you know how critical i am in the nhl i can't find it how critical i am at the nhl the rule book
is a beautiful thing they wrote a clear succinct rule because i watched that play and i'm like i
don't know i have no idea and then i see marner doesn't even have the puck when the net is knocked
off so he hadn't even taken the shot yet and i'm like yeah this probably isn't going to count
based on my assumption of what the rule is but then you read the rule and it's if the defending
player knocks the net off and there's an imminent scoring chance and the puck crosses the line it's
a goal and i was like gosh oh jesse's brought it up right now so here here i tell you what i'm
gonna time you i'm gonna time you all right this is rule 63.7 let me put it on no see this is the
old rule this is where people were getting screwed up that's 63.6 uh-huh they made a new rule that
was 63.7 oh no no okay so you have the david alter tweet yeah click the david alter tweet
there's another guy who's verified who has underneath it yes 63.7 there i'm gonna time
you i'm gonna time you do you want me to read the whole thing and then the updated one yeah
yeah no no no read the updated one alex's tweet yes this is from alex bloomfield okay ready set
the language has been updated in the latest nhl rulebook this season's rule 63.7 has an attacking
player must have an intimate scoring chance opportunity in place of puck must have been
shot or the player in the act of shooting fun stuff 15.93 seconds the only the only criticism
is you said intimates instead of imminence but imminent what did i say you said like cinnamon
or something imminent but imminent is the word a minus imminent is a word no you said like
intimate yeah intimate imminent in imminent intimate intimate intimate intimate there you
go in a minute in a minute oh imminent no no in a minute kind of means the same thing i'm saying
it right okay fair enough well anyway less than 20 seconds and like okay i'm bringing a friend
to the game i paid producer drew yeah well and i had people tweet like well the broadcast should
explain the rule okay that's great what about the 19 000 people who paid money to be there
literally you know what you don't want is you're paying fans sitting there going what the fuck
so i paid 200 to sit there confused explain the rule you amateurs jesus christ are you
running a sports league or what well they don't want to be held accountable
because what if they're wrong like if the nba refs have to write like a report after them right
nhl refs don't have to do that because they don't want to hold anybody to anything because they
don't want to be accountable how about this okay so if that happens in boston it's still a goal
because of the rule what happens if that happens in boston and then they're watching it on the
screen you see the nets knocked off marner hasn't shot the puck yet and you have another you have a
building of 18 000 bostonians going what the fuck no one no paying customer should ever not know
what's going on you know what i mean you just spent five minutes wasting our time well not
wasting our time because you ended up getting the call right it would have been a waste of time if
you got it wrong but you spent five minutes trying to get this call right you did you did you
definitively did you wrote a succinct rule and you followed it and you got the call right hooray
good for you good on the nhl and then you just point to center and go go back and drop the puck
fucking explain it
take 20 seconds to be like
Bergeron knocked Tavares into the net
it was the defending player who knocked the net off
and there was an imminent scoring chance to puck cross the line
therefore we have a good goal
how hard was that?
imminent
now I'm never going to be able to say the word again
you're very fired up
about this
well because I'm tired of them
fucking up extraordinarily simple things
like
what I just said
like are you amateurs or what like are you running a professional sports league or what
like there are things we there are there are like philosophical things where we talk about
this should be a penalty or that shouldn't be a penalty or guys okay at the beginning of every
season you have a rule book there it is here's the rule here's why that went in but if i'm in
the building what i gotta rely on twitter someone tweeting out the rule when the ref could have just
taken it's not even an additional 20 seconds it's an additional 10 on top of the shitty explanation
you gave take 10 more seconds and do a good job instead of doing a poor one and i gotta assume
like 70 of hockey fans who casually watch the leafs aren't going to twitter to check it check
that they're probably just accepting whatever happened no you know you know what happens is
in most houses like if i was watching that game with my dad i'd be like i'd do you know he he'd
look at me and go does that count and and i'd go yeah sure i guess so hi julian how you doing man
i knew this was coming julian mckenzie joining us and i and steve didn't even play i i thought
you would like completely get thrown off you know what is happening get on camera is he on camera
I was looking for the bathroom

I purposefully wore this shirt for you.
I like it.
I appreciate the, I think when I saw this in the shop sportsnet store.
Okay, whatever.
I was like, all right, like this is the shirt I want.
That's wonderful.
It worked out.
First time I've seen it on another person.
Yes.
So that's wonderful.
That's awesome.
does it if you have an sn now subscription do you get a shirt uh no i don't think so
no okay just checking just because you pay for one thing doesn't mean you
don't have to pay for another thing sometimes when you pay for s and now also the second reason
the second reason why i came the second reason why i came is because i brought this oh hell yeah
can you autograph can you autograph please autograph my copy of who should i make it out to
um you know um am i signing it right now yeah do it okay now you finally get to see on camera
if you're watching how slow steve is but let's get 20 minutes so so julian you're in town with
some stuff that you're doing with the athletic right pretty much uh just to be real here i'm
meeting basically all the toronto because this was for the first time like ever because i i've
been at the athletic uh full time since march and the only people i had really met were arpin
basu and mark antoine godin the two montreal-based colleagues actually funny enough over the weekend
at the uh at the canadians vegas game uh i met jesse granger who covers the team for from vegas
but uh yeah i'm meeting uh well actually i met up with uh with james myrtle uh for the first time
in person like ever i had him on a podcast that i had like a few years ago but this is the first
time i got to meet him like in person but i'm gonna be meeting like well i've met pierre lebrun
before but i'm gonna meet him i'm gonna meet like craig custins and basically all the big
wigs katie strang's also supposed to be around too we're supposed to have a little uh it's an
office part oh yeah you guys have a little big office partner oh yeah for sure thank you look
at that the steve dangle can i see steve dangle yeah your camera there that one how did you spell
my name buddy no correctly j-u-l-a-a-n yes you are the man oh thank you um i uh i come to think
of it we we work with the athletic on a few things on the network here and i i uh uh i don't think
i've met anybody there other than james myrtle like i know craig custance i have you know i've
had to call craig a couple times um i know like the head of podcast and stuff like that but i
don't think i've ever met anybody except for jake the pandemic and you're the second athletic
employee i've ever met that's wild meeting you for the first time and like i was on um he was
on the show but like yeah but you never met a person to go resume count i don't know no i was
a guest on the sports net uh morning show on the radio with alish forfar and i'm like oh we co-hosted
a show together and i've never never met them never met her pandemic's weird eh yeah it's very
um uh i went out for beers with julian and chris uh last night and i just want to say this um
julian your your job your duty you must do this today during your ask cj segment make sure the
world finds out about what happened to him at the saddle dome oh my god cj told us one of the
funniest stories i've ever heard about what it was like for him going to a game oh my god okay
and it's amazing as a reporter but yeah no no that's just a fan and i won't say anything else
i'll let cj tell it it'll be in the cj show okay if cj's cool i mean he seems like he was cool with
bringing it up so if he's cool with it then fine because it's yeah it has to yeah now he has to
it's on wax now and now if it's not on the episode there's gonna be like you know what like if it's
not on the episode if he doesn't tell it tweet him until he tells it yeah it's so good it's it's
gonna be like one of those like oh hey you guys were supposed to have an announcement you didn't
have an announcement what happened yeah yeah what happened yeah do you get a witch do you get a
witch uh uh are there more announcements coming are there more stuff coming we're jesse we're
like we're probably a few weeks away from the next one right uh i don't know we have lots of
announcements i don't know they're all just gonna come out when they come out yeah for everybody
listening work on things and they materialize when they do but here's the thing like i'm part
of the sdpn i'm very happy to be a part of the network i'm really grateful uh but like i i don't
know when the next stuff shows up i mean there are a few i mean yeah what would you mean you're
the face of the thing it's sd behind you thank you for the reminder yes super duper podcast network
that's what it stands for it does not stand for steve dangle for anybody ask yeah okay that's
super duper can i ask a question yeah please okay yeah there's no questions sorry this is from
aluminum alloy on our discord if you're not a member of discord go to sdpn.ca and sign up we
We reached 8,300 numbers, which is amazing.
I am buying at least one jersey from every team, and I currently own an away Leafs jersey.
I also intend to get it crested slash named.
I prefer to get names of depth guys slash not the biggest guys on the team.
Example, I have a Backlund jersey from Calgary and a McAvoy jersey that I got when he was in the first or second year.
Which Leafs name should I get crested on my Leafs away jersey?
we'll start with julia uh i guess michael bunting does he count has to be this year
it could be anyone okay why not michael bunting uh i only think of this because my uh our good
friend tic-tac-tomar uh bought himself a michael bunting jersey and uh he said at the beginning of
the year he's probably gonna win the calder trophy now that uh cole caulfield's playing in the hl
looks like he might be right so uh it'll probably be spencer night but you get what i mean so i
I guess if you're going to go that route, you might as well make it.
Like, what era depth player are we talking here?
Because I think if you're doing mid to late 90s, it's got to be Lonnie Bahanas.
Yeah, when is the jersey from?
It's in a way.
I think it should be somebody who's on the team right now.
Currently?
Yeah.
I think this is what I'm going to remember.
Spezza.
Spezza.
Oh, that's.
All day, Spezza.
Okay.
So now I can't do that.
Oh, sorry.
Sorry, Steve.
Well, I was going to say Spezza, but also there's 8,300 members in the Discord.
Cody Ceci.
83.
Oh.
That's a word.
He's not currently on the team.
Why do you want a Cody?
Who wants a Cody Ceci jersey?
Listen, I didn't ask him to get a jersey from every team, and now you got to do it.
You're just doing it for the lols?
What's the most out there depth jersey you've ever seen in public?
And I told you this story before.
In Tampa, I saw somebody at a non-leaf game.
it was lightning versus the predators and somebody was walking around the arena with a dave steckle
leafs jersey yeah and it had to be i'm like that's dave steckle's dad for sure it's dave
steckle's dad and then wasn't it oh i don't know i didn't ask should have uh i'm gonna i i can't
remember the answer to your question i will try to think of one but um get a lilligran oh that's
good one too it's not a ton good investment too right that will probably go up in value next
question jess do you guys want to play a little trivia yeah so since 2010 this is from shiro
since 2020 13 players drafted in the top three have been traded can you name them 13 players
drafted in the top three since 2010 have been traded can you name them so what are we going
13 players.
Collectively.
Okay, so one of them is Pierre-Luc Dubois.
One of them is Patrick Laine.
Patrick Laine.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
Yep.
He?
Wow, he was a top three pick.
Kotkaniemi is not on the list.
Oh, because he was five, wasn't he?
Fiveth overall?
I don't know.
No, he's third.
He was third.
He was third.
In fact, yeah, he's third.
Shiro.
You got your question wrong.
That year is Rasmus Dahlin, Andrei Sveshnikov, then Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
All right, I guess there's 14.
So there's 14.
So we still have three.
Okay, so you have three.
Top three?
Well, I mean...
Adam Larson.
Who was the Russian player that nobody in Edmonton wanted except for the owner?
Neil Yakubov?
Neil Yakubov.
Was he 09 or was he 2010?
Oh, it's all three of those guys.
2012.
It was Yak.
I've lost count.
Yak, Ryan Murray, Alex Galchenyuk.
So that's the whole top three.
Yes, he was.
Of 2012.
Taylor Hall.
Taylor Hall?
You said Larson.
We got to say Hall.
Tyler Sagan?
Correct.
Yes.
Who went third that year?
Who went third in 2010?
So it was Taylor, Tyler.
Do we have Adam Larson?
Yeah.
Adam Larson's not on the list.
He freaking should be.
Oh, wait.
No, he went fourth.
Yeah.
He went fourth.
Oh, okay.
He went fourth.
I got that wrong.
Stop getting mad at Shiro.
I know.
Damn it, Shiro.
I'm trying to remember 2011.
What place did-
No, second was Barco.
Coyotes, did they?
Dvorak.
Christian Dvorak wasn't a top three pick.
he wasn't you're missing some easy ones i gotta tell you right now so from 2010 20 until now
third so 14 players because they missed out on cock and yemi uh yeah i'm blanking on a lot of
these names when was eric branson drafted well before 2010 no he was a top three pick though
i don't remember 2013 no uh 2013 was a weird one wasn't it mckinnon and then jonathan drew
Is he on that list?
Yes, he has to be.
Druin is on the list.
There we go.
Well done.
He was 2013 third overall.
Yep.
2013, and that's the year Nathan McKinnon was taken.
Who's number two that year?
Boy.
Is that the Nylander year or the year...
Nylander was 2014.
And the top three that year...
Aaron Ekblad.
Yeah, what year was Aaron Ekblad and who the guys came after?
Okay.
So, who came after Aaron Eckblad?
Yeah, you were right.
I think we're missing out on some really easy names.
Yep.
Oh, man.
Are you guys going to fail at the assignment?
We better not.
We're three people guessing this.
There's a lot of names.
Who in third 2016, the Matthews line A and then...
Wasn't it Pierre?
No, it was...
Oh, it was Dubois.
Dubois, yeah, Dubois.
We already said Dubois.
Yeah, we already said Dubois.
Nolan Patrick.
Oh!
Well done.
no 2017 second overall who's first who wait who was he behind that year 2017 he sure okay so nico
he's sure then nolan patrick i'm trying to remember the photo right the one yeah like with the top
three guys like who gets moved and where um yeah i don't know why nolan patrick nolan patrick just
came to me um uh i'm giving you like 30 seconds okay we don't have that much time is raspis
ristolina drafted top no no top three guy how many names did we get about well jack eichel yeah
why that was why was that so hard
well i think that covers the fullest i think i'm gonna read off yeah i read it okay i'm gonna read
off taylor hall 2010 first overall tyler sagan 2010 second overall erica branson
2010. Oh, I'm sorry.
You don't get that point. I messed you up. I'm sorry.
No, I'm sorry. You asked the question. You're like,
no, that's not it. No, but I messed you up. You can get
mad at me. I said it was a different year.
I messed up. You don't get that point. I'm sorry.
Fine. Now, Yakupov
2012 first. Ryan Murray
2012. I would never have gotten Ryan
Murray. Forgot it. I just know it's the
top three. I forget about him. Yeah. Alex
Galchenyuk. Yeah. Third. Yeah.
Jonathan Druin. 2013
third. Sam Reinhardt.
Oh!
did not get sam reinhardt he was second uh jack eichel almost didn't get it adam great pick up
that's so fun dylan strome 2015 third overall patrick line a 2016 seven overall pld 2016 third
and nolan patrick 2017 second and let's not forget bonus points for cockney emmy yes 2018 third
overall yeah do you guys miss two wait wait was cockney emmy not he wasn't traded oh shit
that's true that's fine okay so he was moved he was not traded he was moved and uh i guess
last question steve there was two questions here uh about your video ah yes do you want to just
talk about it um mick drew said uh can you reveal how the least reacted when he told him the footage
was about was with david airs when you're showing them that and they're like do you i assume you
have to tell them hey the video by the way is what the video is what so oh yeah i teased this
for a long time on the on the podcast so basically i went to leafs media day and got to ask them a
bunch of questions and you know they're never like terribly thrilled to be doing them on media day
it's the first day oh can't wait for you to ask me about the playoffs you know all that shit and
the documentary but we started and this was brilliantly graham campbell the producer uh with
uh a minute's worth where i go i talk about you guys all the time and they're like yeah
and i go i talk about you guys all the time here i want you to critique me playing and right away
we start with like the worst clips and simmons was the first guy and he's just we didn't use him
that much in the video because he didn't say much he just laughed the whole time so jack campbell
was second he was extremely nice but both simmons and campbell went you know what you got a good
shot and so i'm feeling good about myself because i'm i feel good about my shots so i'm like all
right like it's the only thing where i'm like oh i'm not terrible like too terrible at this
john tavaris walks in and you know he's got his john tavaris face yeah and the first thing that
made him smirk he's like it's all arms on the shot and it actually like genuinely for a minute
was i was like oh because i was feeling so good about it told you to bend the knees right yeah
yeah it's gotta get the lower body in there i'm like oh god ain't that about a bitch yeah
yep so that one hurt a little bit kerfoot there was a great line from kerfoot that didn't make
its way in i've been campaigning to get like part two released the three minute like fast pace is
perfect for it right but like kerfoot's like so like you talk about you talk about us and like
you don't do this he was he was like like he was ruthless like riley riley killed me the whole time
But Kerfoot, I thought, had the most scathing line.
He's like, you're talking about hockey, but you never played?
Like, well, okay, basically.
But Riley and I are, he's pretty much like the Leaf I have,
like I would say the only Leaf I would have rapport with
because he's been there the longest.
I've spoken to a few of them, like a little bit.
But that's why Riley was comfortable going at me
because i was comfortable going at him yeah and they cut some of the stuff that i like i was i
was going at the guys i went at riley and i said like i scored more against airs than you did
which is true nylander didn't need me to get to that point he goes well at least you scored on
him and uh with tavaris i go hey you and i can both say that we've scored against david airs
and you just see him take a robotic second and he goes you're right we can
i liked um my favorite guy in that video was jason spezza who was just so trying to salvage
he's like there's a few holes in the game he was like actually trying to give me advice
justin hall was pretty funny too campbell giving you credit for being multi-position
it's so funny it's pretty good it's like you don't you don't see that very often
he was like i give all those guys credit because whenever i walk into those events like the team
media days or the all-star media day whatever whatever i know none of them want to be there
none of them want to be doing it and they were all very fun about it and it luckily started with
a fun thing we started with this fun loose thing and it helped uh it helped the whole interview i
had eight minutes with each guy and they it went by so rapid fast i'm so glad like you go into
those going okay we want x amount of pieces of content and we want at least one of them to be a
hit and first one's a hit like so thrilled thrilled now you gotta do it again uh i can tell
you i don't i don't know if the next one's gonna be as good that was still fun man there was one
where i so i do get my revenge on riley okay because he told me he's like uh i was asking
about the favorite nicknames on the team and he gave me one he gave me the nickname but he would
not give me the player oh and by the end of the day i extracted the name from one of them one of
them turned coat on riley because i told them all i'm like he didn't tell me who it was and finally
the last guy goes all right guess and i nailed it boom or are we allowed to are we allowed to know
or is that in the video or you gotta watch the video i guess i gotta watch it i guess okay i
don't know should i tell you the name no not the player name the nickname no no that's the whole
point of the video it's called the 80 20 you told us the whole story except for the one piece that
completes the story that's why it's in radio ladies and gentlemen so uh so thanks cj and
julian are up next recording in here which is their first time in the same room recording
their show together what are you guys talking about uh we're gonna look at the uh mike babcock
story uh which yeah that'll get pretty interesting uh we're gonna talk about uh well it's ask cj day
so uh everyone threw in some questions on discord on twitter as well we'll get to them
uh connor mcdavid scored some goal over heard about that oh my god i think i kind of saw that
going around so we'll we'll get to that yeah well and then when other stuff comes up the cool thing
about the cj show is like we'll have like set ideas what we want to talk about but sometimes
you just never know where it ends up but uh the beautiful thing i can promise you this it will
