Starting point is 00:01:00 the steve dangle podcast with your host steve dangle adam wild and jesse blake happy last day of school everybody yeah adam you keep drifting i don't know yeah we push you up there you go i'm gonna drift closer there you go last day of school everybody hey funnily enough i saw my first back to school commercial today when i woke up and was watching sports center awful terrible is it the first one you saw because last episode you mentioned you you've seen back to school no no i said it's about time it's about time to see them but i had not seen them yet you're a freaking liar you're a phony a big fat bony when they start but it's july 31st today well they started they didn't so i don't like it uh we have breaking news gentlemen we've had a lot
Starting point is 00:01:52 of signings in the last couple of days which is crazy all the good ones happened after our show on monday uh but uh the the newest signing is the ottawa senators have appointed ian mendez vice president of communications wow yeah so ian mendez leaving the athletic uh ian mendez friend of the show leaving the athletic going to the ottawa senators to be vp of communications wow isn't that crazy so good for you That's so good for Ian. That's sick. There's a few things there.
Starting point is 00:02:26 One, couldn't have happened to a better guy. Oh, yeah. Couldn't have happened to a better guy. By the way, wasn't he locked out by the... Yes. Sorry. What? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Sorry. No, no. What a 180. The previous regime of the Ottawa Senators did not get along with Ian. And number three, you never know who's going to get hired to what, so maybe watch your mouth. what's that mean no to no writer in no writer in particular no what does that mean oh some writers uh were a little mouthy with regard to ian mendez over the over the last
Starting point is 00:03:05 couple years oh and now they're gonna have to deal with him direct if they want any sends in thank you for explaining don't burn any bridges don't burn bridges wow well good for ian man that's great dude that's uh also joining him is sylvie and st laurent who is not working for the athletic currently he will be the director of communications so you know it's not the first media hire they made they also hired dave pool and from tsn yeah uh slash the toronto star i think um so to a lesser degree matt nickel who is he's uh uh i think their new strength and conditioning coach okay he wasn't like a member of the media he was just on camera a lot there is a difference right it's wow wow that's i'm shocked that's so sick i'm shocked by that good for him yeah it's
Starting point is 00:03:52 great that's a great hire there's uh gonna be a bit of a gap in uh the athletic hockey show well i i'm sure they'll figure that out yeah or the athletic they've got a pretty robust staff but uh very cool very very cool that's that like you could have said we could have made a million guesses and never would have guessed that would not that that came out of left field that's why i was like i'm not gonna i'm not gonna make them guess because i know hey guess what kind of news i have you'd be like i don't know no we could have sat here for hours never would have said that could have done a whole show it would have been a really boring show but we didn't want it nick robertson signed yeah no hey you know what's been interesting about that story and we'll take
Starting point is 00:04:31 a this is just a sidetrack because i actually do want to come back thank god i was drowning all the all that sends talk let's get to the good no we're going back to the set there hasn't been any follow-up on that story nope that's interesting i like i wonder where they're at have they chatted have they had a little chat well i it's interesting there's been a bunch of news this week yep because uh i think hockey people are like a lot of people don't bother me in august yeah and they're getting it done now so that they can do their thing if the biggest thing that uh the Leafs have to deal with going into training camp as Nick Robertson is unsigned. That is a good year.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Yeah, their cap situation is still a little odd, but it's mostly fine. No Yanni Hockenpah either. Nope. There's another thing. Maybe the solution there is don't sign him because it's going to be too much of a pain and go help your day. Pain in his knee, is it?
Starting point is 00:05:27 Yeah. Signing him was a pain in the knee. Was that the injury? It is an injury. Apparently he's got no cartilage left, which I hear hurts. You need that. yeah um so i the reason i bring this up i want to bring up the sense first obviously ian mendez congrats to him but i got a dm and i know jesse got a bazillion comments about this the the nepo baby team yeah and we were talking about because the kneelanders obviously and max
Starting point is 00:05:53 domey and stuff and we're not using nepo baby as a pejorative here we're using it as a like this is what happens in hockey as it does in so many professions yes lots of people go into the thing that their parents did um i i did you guys didn't uh but you know like it sometimes it just runs in the family my mom and dad were both media i grew up wanted to be a secretary at the yellow pages did you and i failed no uh but i i wanted to jesse if i'm not going to wreck your your answers on this did the senators come up yes okay you go ahead and you want it you want it we can start there well nicholas messaged me so i'm just shouting you out nicholas it was great but jesse go ahead and take it sir so this was from bruce nicks 6074 the nepotism line is pretty much
Starting point is 00:06:35 the ottawa senator's top line uh kachuk norris greg sanderson chikrin uh the father's line keith duane mark jeff and jeff and jeff so there you go but chikrin's not there oh jeff chikrin's not there anymore yeah jeff chikrin also okay and if you want to throw in the goalie uh so forsberg Anton Forsberg, Uncle Peter Wishful Thinker. No way! Let's see who reacts. His uncle is Peter Forsberg? Well, no, it's Per Arn Forsberg.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Oh. His father played in Division I hockey in Sweden, only one without NHL games. But there's also Nick Jensen, whose uncle Steve Jensen played in the NHL. Okay. Jake Sanderson, father is Jeff Sanderson, Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes.
Starting point is 00:07:20 I didn't know that, yeah. And Drake Batherson, Norm Batherson is his dad, and Norm Batherson played in the NHL as well. get out of here yeah holy crap yeah pretty neat yeah so like half of the sends is just nepo babies yeah and i forgot about nuts i forgot about mark greg but yes yeah yeah it's it's kachuk kachuk norris greg is keith duane and mark sanderson and chikorin nodding there and more is jeff and jeff who's norris's dad uh norris duane norris duane norris that means two nepo babies were traded for each other this summer jensen chikorin and i didn't know jake chikorin had a dad that was
Starting point is 00:07:53 what that's cool huh you didn't know uh chicken had a dad who played in the nhl no uh he famously there's a there's a clip um there was a a commentator i forgot their name this sounds bad who well bad it was during i i don't remember the game did he eat a raw steak on ice like jake does no he mistakenly he must tell us he mistakenly said that that his dad died and then had to come had to come back from commercial break and be like hey so he's fine he's alive and well oh wow that's so intense you've never how have you never seen that clip dwayne norris uh by the way since since adam didn't know dwayne norris was a seventh round pick of the quebec nordiques only played four games with the nordiques in 93 94 13 with them in 95 94 95 and then three games with the
Starting point is 00:08:47 mighty ducks in 95 96 and that's the end of his nhl but he made it he made it he got 20 games in the nhl and then he spent a lot in the del which is swedish league uh german german league there when did he retire uh 2007 he played oh my god he played from 96 to 2007 in the german league i love that about guys who decide you know what i'm just gonna play until they kick me out yep jesse go and look at the career of type in tony hand oh my god yeah we know we know we know three thousand points i get it blah blah blah yeah but just look at how long he played he played he played from 83 to 2015 unbelievable that's nuts that's nuts i i got scottish gretzky there that's it all right all right i'm done with it i i have seen so many podcasts we've done it too so many have you guys
Starting point is 00:09:41 heard about tony hand it's like yes i've heard about tony hand and he went to the oilers camp and he tried out and he's like nah it's not for me bro don't want to play with gretzky back to england um i get it i get it i get it so a great story didn't rate with you on the deserved interesting it did not anymore it's been told all right now let's go in order so i got a couple other people to shout out sorry from uh the youtube comments we had philip who said not only there uh it's not a nepo line but it's a nepo line in the making aginla and don in utah yeah yeah they just need a nepo center um shout out uh nepo center where's the other one i had oh shout out the call-in who says i'm a nepo baby my cousin is al mckinnis and i play no nhl games
Starting point is 00:10:27 but i make a really good grilled cheese hey you know what that matters sourdough bread and last one i wanted to say was a tweet from devils in the details who said uh stefan matu broke the devil's hearts in 94 mateo mateo sorry and stefan mateo broke the devil's heart by being a first round dud in 2012 oh that's funny that's actually really fine when he was drafted i was like i remember having his dad's hockey card in his defense 2012 yeah yeah there's there's some fun nepo baby talk from the last episode we asked you to get back to us and you did and there's a lot more that we didn't get to so thank you for all of that and we got some stuff on the girl dad we can do it at the end of the show beautiful now marty niches uh was the first one to uh to be
Starting point is 00:11:15 announced after our show uh last episode two years six and a half what do we think uh you know it's funny it seems like a complete steal and like he got rocked by tolski and the hurricanes um until you look at how many points he had last year and you're like oh he's he's good yeah good you know what i mean yeah like he um i i think a lot of the nine million talk and and stuff we were we were hearing in the rumors is based on like potential future performance you're doing a brock faber deal you're doing a jake sanderson deal where you're betting on the ufa years where he explodes right yeah except he's 26 he's older than those guys signing this deal and uh he just wasn't worth it yet so the hurricane stuck to their guns um didn't get
Starting point is 00:12:11 fleeced in a trade and instead have a good forward locked up to a reasonable deal now apparently the reason that he was asking for a trade was that he didn't think he'd get the opportunity especially on the first power play unit that he was wanting to have and it's interesting now that jay gensel and a few other players have left um it looks like he's going to get that power play time i think he would tell you and his agent would tell you that part of the reason why uh he only had 53 points remember 24 goals 29 assists very very good hockey player definitely capable of more he's great um uh the reason that he hasn't is because he hasn't had the power play time to sort of add up on those stats and i think that is a fair thing to say i know you're rolling your
Starting point is 00:12:54 eyes but i think it's i think it's fair um and what's interesting about this deal too is that it walks him directly to ufa good for him yeah no like i like i'm just looking at it uh if he was coming off 28 goals and 71 points oh yeah oh yeah he's cleaning up but he's not that's what he had two years ago this past year he had in five fewer games 24 goals and 53 points boo boo you got to kill it near in your free agency year you have to and it's not free agency for him it's restricted free agency so you want to go somewhere where there's opportunity presumably you want to go somewhere where you're going to get paid presumably you want to go somewhere where you're not going to get taxed to hell um like how many teams fit the criteria that he wanted
Starting point is 00:13:46 and and then there's carolina sitting right there like you're a hurricane we lost a bunch of people sign here like is it a coach thing is it a rod thing because if there's someone keeping you off the power play it's rod yeah is it a coach thing i don't know it just there's so many scenarios where a player asks for a trade and it just makes sense to stay i'm not saying like i i feel like i've been saying that more and more lately you know we've been talking about robertson this is going to be good for niches well because we were asking like who's going to play for the hurricanes next year i think marty niches is going to have pretty great uh they're going to rely on him for a lot if you want to be literally the best forward on the san jose sharks great but you're going to
Starting point is 00:14:36 be passing the guys who aren't going to finish yeah and you're not going to get the puck uh like from who from who you'll get lots of opportunity if it's opportunity you want and 45 points you will get it but no i think he's going to be excellent and return to his 70-ish point self yeah absolutely absolutely i think they got they got to do a little work at center the carolina hurricanes i'm looking at their depth chart here and uh you spary cock and emu next to nietzsche's is something that if i were nietzsche's i wouldn't be thrilled about um and the reality is that the still unsigned seth jarvis is the guy that is the top line right winger right now so if you want to uh i imagine that that deal is going to be a big long-term one like i something
Starting point is 00:15:22 similar to what you know the jake sanderson the brock faber deal um if you want to get that position you have to take that position i definitely don't look at the hurricanes the same way as i did going into last season especially with how they floundered in the first three games of the rangers series and then they kind of almost make a comeback but getting swept um to the panthers in the previous playoffs and then this year you kind of flame out in the same kind of way you did last year and the same problems you had and then you lose a bunch of guys as well like i'm definitely a little down on the hurricanes going into this season uh going in i totally understand that but tulski just got there and he hasn't like because of all the work he's had to do um he hasn't really
Starting point is 00:16:04 been able to fiddle with the team like yeah like it's difficult to plan for the future when you have so many question marks and like how do you make a trade do you think it's fair that to say that he just got there since he's been there the entire time well he just got the helm yeah he wasn't the final decision maker master right yeah so not he just got there but um it's yeah his final decision well until he brings it to his boss who i think that says okay i think that lends even more to the point in that the team's kind of in flux right now and like i don't think tulsi is not going to turn this around mid-season in terms of like hey they look better on paper i think they're kind of a little a rung below where they were heading into last season i i have a
Starting point is 00:16:46 sneaky feeling we're going to be looking at them sideways heading into the season and then in november they just drop a bomb on us you think like a trade yeah ah it's carolina that's so rare like when it is rare but you gotta you gotta talk it into existence i need excitement you can't just you can't just say something's gonna happen because you want it to happen what if we just we what if we talk about something that's realistic it makes some sense they have they have lots of cap space lots of talent um decent prospects what's not to like you're just you're just praying for content i am absolutely but oh my god i hope this happened so bad i hope this happened so bad um i gotta we gotta revisit this have your feelings changed
Starting point is 00:17:30 the the feeling and adam wilde this is what you said about two weeks ago about marty niches how would you feel if they traded him straight up for martin niches sounds great that sounds great any truly yeah dude we know this group we need to work keep in mind you have to sign natchez too yeah but natchez isn't getting 11 no but he might get eight okay no you're in the camp of like anything works just do it i'm not no no i'm not in the camp of anything works i'm in the camp of this doesn't work we what they're doing and then you say everything you said yeah so a couple weeks ago uh you guys were just trade mitch marner who you're talking about there bob ogden for marty natchez yeah now that you know what the deal would be to sign marty
Starting point is 00:18:18 natchez are you still doing the deal well here's so emphatically a couple things here a couple things first yeah second uh the leafs would have never got him for that because if they had traded for him and he was unsigned they would have had to pay a tax on that no let's i'm giving you the scenario it's this contract it's the one he signed are you still doing i'd be mad at brad for walking into ufa but i would it would allow the leafs to have another five and a half six million dollars in cap space which is worth at least if we look a first round pick like that's that's what that's what it costs to offload marlo's deal right it's about a first round pick or seth joseph friggin yeah so i look at that and i go yeah like i think that they could have used that now can they use
Starting point is 00:18:59 that now no not really uh my logic hasn't changed because it's right um there's like one for one martyr for nature's i think that you're i guess i'll tell you again like listen like talent wise yeah you get murdered on that deal yes you get murdered on but those are deal that's what the nhl is you get murdered on deals to what bill zito said remember i brought up the bill zito thing and he's like sometimes you got a square peg round hole and then he's like laser eyes and he's like Sometimes you got to lose a deal to win in getting. I don't know if Marner for nature is a deal that ends in a Stanley Cup. Put it this way.
Starting point is 00:19:34 You're at a blackjack table. There's 16 people at the table. Every hand you have every Tony hand. You have the same hand. So everyone else is getting different cards. You don't get different cards. every year or every hand you pull a 17
Starting point is 00:20:01 that's good yeah it's good you might win once in a while yeah my win dealer my bust yeah you might how there's 16 people 17 i mean it's not bust yeah yeah it's not 16 or no it's dean you're no the people sitting there with 15 it's not 20 no it's not 20 blackjack it's not 21 and it's not blackjack is it it's not 19 it's not 18 either yeah but 17 it's okay so if i gave you the option how about this how about this jesse you have the option now to continue to sit at the special table where you sit at 17 forever and hope you lock in to everyone can't beat 17, or you have the ability to just go to another table with 16, where maybe you go bust, maybe you get a 13 or maybe a frigging win with a 20 or
Starting point is 00:21:08 21, what are you taking? Are you taking the 17 forever table or are you taking the regular table? The only thing that is, I think, in your scenario that's still on the table is that magically your 17 turns into like a 19 or 20. Because there's a scenario where what the Leafs have right now is, well, I guess that'd be everybody else around you. No, no, no. I do think there's a point there.
Starting point is 00:21:36 There's a scenario where Mitch Marner just works out with the Leafs and everything's good. Yeah, and listen, I want that, by the way. I want that. So you pick 17. I want that. You pick 17. I want that to happen.
Starting point is 00:21:46 But what I will say, I will say this. Shut up and give me your money. The Leafs? It's better in my hands. Let me throw this at you. You lose. The Leafs starting six. The Leafs starting six.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Last year, objectively. That was a great analogy. The Leafs starting. I know. I'm right about this. I'm done arguing about it with people. Yeah, no. Like, holy shit.
Starting point is 00:22:05 What I will say, last year's starting six included guys like Klingberg and Giordano on the defense. this year it's objectively better yeah so i if i'm hanging my hat on anything it's on their defense i do think they're thinner up friend yeah i still think they need another center i do think their goaltending's better i agree with everything you've said man you still think it's probably gonna end the same way because at what point do you run out of hey maybes yeah i don't i also i just i can't get back to like martin niches being the guy to just say hey that's something different like i don't agree with that i will never agree with that
Starting point is 00:22:47 uh which is fair it's fair thank you it's definitely fair i like i'm just stuck on like uh yeah i do think this team is better uh than the one that they had at the beginning of last year and i'll cheer i will cheer for the team that they put on the ice they're the leafs i'm a leafs fan i'm going to cheer for the leafs and that includes marner that includes all the core four because it's again it's not about bob ogden it's not about mitch marner it's about the idea of the core four i am going to cheer for them because that's my team and i want them to win but if you ask me if i think they're going to do anything i'll be honest with you and tell you no because they haven't proven you that yeah i think that's a fair point i mean like you have eight
Starting point is 00:23:33 years of proof yes you correctly picked boston to win that series in seven in seven if if they win what's interesting is people will go see we told you actually it will be the outlier right yeah and also i'll be like fuck right you did we got we got one out of eight or one out of nine oh we're a dunce cat for the whole fucking summer i don't give a shit who cares we won i don't give a shit oh dunce crown yeah just a crown that says done yeah don't don't act like we're not cheering for steve to know you have to agree i'm cheering for me to be wrong yeah but your your brain is telling you hey this thing that hasn't worked isn't going to work forget fandom you know good for business
Starting point is 00:24:23 it would be if i was wrong holy shit oh it'd be great for us we'd love that that'd be great but you're asking me to have faith in something that deserves none oh fair enough yeah well it deserves it deserves faith based on what the fun thing about this season though is that at some point this season whether it's at in the middle or the trade deadline or at the end of it there's gonna be a fun decision to be made with mitch marner in that his contracts expire yes so we are we are on the the precipice of one of the most eventful leafs roster management times ever because everything you're complaining about will either it'll it'll shift with tavaris's new deal whether he sticks around whether he goes with mitch marner's new deal whether he sticks around or
Starting point is 00:25:06 he goes so we're we're right there for something really fun and i'm looking forward to that i am Just on this trickly transactions part of NHL news. Well, you know, Mr. No Cameras, Mr. Block Out the Noise, it's all this season is going to be is fucking noise. It's going to be sirens and cowbells and fire alarms because you're a star on the Leafs heading into a contract. Holy shit, a fire truck just went by. See?
Starting point is 00:25:36 The people probably didn't hear that. That's okay. Oh, well, whatever. Hopefully you did. no it's it like like way to way to throw fire on a fire like you're going into this season as a star on the leafs making damn near 11 million dollars uh and it's a contract year and you're going to be asked about this once a week if they're polite this is genuinely going to be a fun season from that perspective oh yeah like hey there's something on the line here with
Starting point is 00:26:06 this group like you got one last shot here two of you are expiring out of the core four and last season with willie like he was in his contract here and we heard about it all up until he signed it and willie went out there and he went to his home country and scored ot winners after ot winners and was a rock star absolute star was on national television and that's how he answered the bell when his contract was due so now we have another guy we have two guys and the one is the captain that are in that same situation it's gonna be fun from preseason on this is john too yeah this is absolutely john a hundred percent it's it's john and mitch the leafs have two they have their captain and at very least a past star um i saw a tiktok uh he's
Starting point is 00:26:52 one of the top eight non-ovechkin guys in goal scoring over the last decade unbelievable i probably wouldn't have picked him but if you go back to 2012 like oh yeah um he is a pending ufa marner is a pending ufa that is huge news if the team does great then they're probably not getting traded and they then walk to free agency and that's the store or or the team does shit and are you gonna ask for a trade are you gonna allow the leafs to trade you left out the other scenario what they do great and they bring them all back hooray and then how are they doing the playoffs i'm saying they i don't know they'd have to do great for it for them to bring them all back i think or maybe not you don't leave out the possibility that they just continually run this
Starting point is 00:27:48 back until they all can't play hockey anymore the second the second thing i want to move on from this jesse you did this by the way you did this by breaking up no this is a thing you got to talk about martin hs jesse now i want to talk about this i want to move how'd you sleep last night big guy oh pretty good actually did you actually yeah because he won't stop talking about his helix sleep mattress helix metrics helix mattress mattress right this mattress helix mattress mattress that's right got it listen iltrus no helix helix h-l-i-x come on guys match mad lips listen if you want a mattress and you want a mattress okay are you as what what part of your body do you sleep mostly on your side back forward left side yeah okay i have a very
Starting point is 00:28:38 specific i lie down on my right side to start to let my body shift into place as an old and then i sleep on my left jesse what do you do head sleep on the top of my head no what are you i don't know if helix has got a vampire just put me upside down ceiling must be tough yeah a good it's a good thing they got the head mattresses no they got it when you buy a mattress it does come with two pillows that's all i need i guess so length of my head listen normally unless you're jesse you would you would do the helix mattress quiz more efficient and it would recommend a mattress like it did with steve you know for what side your body kind of feels best i gotta talk to them about that yeah maybe
Starting point is 00:29:24 maybe they should stop not including you yeah it's a little discriminatory yeah people sleep on their heads so every helix mattress comes with a 15-year manufacturer's warranty and the same 100-night trial as the rest of helix mattresses and also again like i said you get a couple pillows too which is pretty sweet helix is offering up to 30 off all mattresses and two free pillows for our listeners go to helix sleep.com slash sdp again that's helix h-e-l-i-x sleep.com slash sdp this is their best offer yet and it won't last long with helix better sleep starts now two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret

Starting point is 00:31:07 Okay. Acquiring Gretzky. not acquiring gretzky that was a great trade okay uh because they didn't really give up it did pretty well uh when they traded them i don't know what they got that was probably not great but oh god ptsd from that fucking trade tree video but let's talk about this yeah let's go to 2022 2022 okay who the la kings trade for in 2022 guys trade four yeah big acquisition dead uh deadline actually no draft acquisition we would have talked about it we'd have been in that wasn't dubois was it no no no that's 2022 so we were in montreal or was it nashville montreal montreal
Starting point is 00:31:47 a draft trade so okay you're not talking about the corpus allo gavrikov thing at the draft in Montreal. I don't remember what they did. They traded for Kevin Fiala. Oh. Who's been really good. Yeah, he's been really good. Really, really good.
Starting point is 00:32:08 Yeah. To trade Kevin Fiala. Uh-huh. And like I said, he's been good for the Kings. Oh, yeah. To trade for Kevin Fiala. They traded some 45th overall pick by the name of Brock Faber. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Who they drafted, right? Yes. and and a 2022 so like later that day or the next day first round pick who is liam ogren who's got a fantastic scouting report on elite prospects and i highly recommend you suggest or you check it out hot damn i mean you win it you win it on favor alone you i think you win it on favor and brock faber has officially signed his extension he played two games for the minnesota wild in 2023 as a rookie and then played all 82 last
Starting point is 00:32:56 year, getting 47 points. He broke he was third in power play assists, third in power play points, tied for first in assists on the team, first in block shots with 150. Set single season wild records for assists by a rookie ahead of Kalen Addison
Starting point is 00:33:12 who had 26 in 22-23 and points by a rookie defenseman beating Philip Kuba. Remember him? Oh yeah! Kuba Truba. 30 points in 2000-2001 This extension will expire When Leo, your son Is 13 years old
Starting point is 00:33:29 Oh my god You left off of his resume One important thing He's a Stanley Cup champion He won the Stanley Cup with the 2026 Toronto Maple Leafs Oh you dick I was like wait what
Starting point is 00:33:43 Jesse's video game He was a member of the crab people he was oh man that's so funny we love brock that was actually one that's one of my favorite highlights this season i loved that we had a good time on that stream did you right stream did you have a very similar team to the one they have or did you make like some big changes stop what what oh it's a question uh brock faber's contract will not kick in this year he the the minnesota wild are in year three i believe of cap hell am i right on that uh yeah so this is the last year of cap health we can just fact check anything with hayden and you are to the wild and and so
Starting point is 00:34:19 instead of paying ryan suiter and zach parise 10 million dollars next year they'll pay um after this coming year excuse me uh because it's not next year yet um after this coming season they'll pay 10 million dollars in real money to brock faber but the actual cap uh hit is 8.5 million there is a 15 team no trade list according to puckpedia in years six through eight so it's a no there's a no move clause and a 15 team no trade list meaning that he can't be set down uh he can't be waived and but he can be traded anywhere except for the last few years where it's only 15 teams um i wish people would stop saying yeah but you know he hasn't played very much like how many times dude i said that about joe wall dude and it still looks like a good deal
Starting point is 00:35:08 but i do think i mean i think brock faber being the the calder runner-up puts him in a different you kind of know when guys are going to be good yeah like i don't like there's no pretending that brock faber won't be very good in the nhl for many many years to go carol kaprizov signed his freaking deal after 56 games he's pretty good actually it's fine yeah it's fine like this this deal is every bit as good as like the i think it was all within a week of each other it was adam fox charlie mcavoy kill my car yep uh kill my car at nine million is cracked um but like faber signing at 8.5 a few years later to me is at least as impressive now i i look at this and I compare it almost directly to the Jake Sanderson contract
Starting point is 00:36:01 that was signed last year. Sanderson obviously came into the NHL as a fifth-round pick. He's also a left shot, and I think Faber... Wasn't Sanderson fifth overall? That's what I said, fifth pick. Oh, sorry, fifth round. You said fifth round. I meant fifth overall, sorry.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Not 45th, which is what Faber was. Got it. But he shoots left, Faber shoots right. Which, there's a $2 million premium. It matters. It matters, and it's not $2 million. It's $500,000 in this case. But interestingly, Jake Sanderson on not very good Ottawa Senators teams, 38 points.
Starting point is 00:36:31 Then he signs the deal. He had 32 last year. Now it really kicks into gear. Actually, I'm wrong on that. 32 the year before when he signed the deal, then 38. Brock Faber comes in, lights it up with 47. Seems like a pretty solid bet. He was an extremely, extremely good rookie.
Starting point is 00:36:49 And I don't know if you know this, but there's a video circulating that we cannot play because i think it would be copywritten but it's uh on social media for the minnesota wild and they actually video they put him on video with his mom his mom was there when they signed the contract and bill garen's like you sure you want to do this bill garen's got a good sense of humor so um it's uh it seems like that is that is what you need and and there seems to be with the minnesota wild a factory of good young defensemen all the time dating back to when brent burns was a forward but i count him as a defensive now right shot guys who come in and brock favorite to me is the future captain of this team oh yeah they they do a really good job finding talent they're in
Starting point is 00:37:31 weird cap hell right now but that ends soon yeah yeah no they're they're uh this is a great contract really really great contract just don't ask producer drew he probably thinks it sucks why do you think so yeah he's an abs fan yeah yeah he's gonna have to pay so on principle he hates it yeah it seems like uh uh it seems like for brock faber like all they need to really do is get through this next year and then he's going to be surrounded him and caprizoff going to be surrounded by stars and they might still squeak in they've been they made the playoffs the year one of cap hell last year they missed it their goaltending situation is really interesting why um but well flurry's you know how much does he have left 39 tank yeah uh philip gustafson
Starting point is 00:38:20 if you ask alan flurry could play another 10 years of course uh philip gustafson you know if he finds that consistency is a really really good goalie and they got jesper wolstedt who's like one of the best if not the best goalie prospects in the world just just waiting just waiting for when everyone's ready for yeah just waiting um i think one of the more interesting things from this past uh draft was the wild moving up to take uh z boomium am i yeah and that's gonna be yeah because that's that's the pair of the future it's booyah and faber because he's a he's a left shot that favors the right shot and that can be one pairing for the rest of eternity in minnesota and i think like they're building something really good there in minnesota i love their system the
Starting point is 00:39:08 The other guy that I forgot had signed this extension, and this goes until, I hope you're ready for this, only until Leo's going to be like nine, is Matt Boulding, $7 million. That starts this year. That's another pretty good deal. Yeah. And you got Kaprizov for a couple more years this year and next at $9 million. And then he's going to ask for, like, I imagine Kaprizov gets $10, $11, $12 million the next year after that.
Starting point is 00:39:33 I think we looked at the Parise suitor buyouts wrong. because i remember at the time being like oh that means you gotta contend now and then you're gonna go through your years of pain but i think what it was trying to do was to set the team up for future success we're gonna do what we can now there's gonna be some pain and now they're setting themselves up for the future with these friggin awesome deals weren't they looking to trade their first round pick until booyan became available and they were like no let's they were gonna move down again weren't they it's hard to they moved up they did move up yeah to take them but i i remember i i don't i could be wrong on this i thought there was a story floating around that
Starting point is 00:40:13 maybe before they moved up they were looking at moving down and like oh booyah might be available let's go get them i think there was some sort of there's so many stories that float around the draft yeah so very very cool for them uh the next deal the next deals we got to sign or talk about excuse me not sign uh is uh jesse's favorite ryan lingren new york rangers uh this is a one year contract four and a half million bucks uh jesse talk about ryan lingren in the playoffs last year he was an important piece of the of the defense of the core there for the rangers because they the thing they struggled it with in the playoffs and you saw like hey it's a flaw when you don't know where the guys are going to play and you're in round three of the playoffs and we're still
Starting point is 00:40:57 making changes around the in the forward group and on the defense you know you have to figure out where truba fits and sometimes he's on the first line sometimes he's on the the first line first pairing sometimes on the third pairing but ryan lingard lingard kind of always had a spot and he's 26 and he knows what he is at this point and i feel like it's you bring him back it's only one year we'll see how it goes after this i thought it was a little curious that you only income for one year i guess that's why the salary is a little higher than it should be but it's a decent amount he know you know you're gonna trust him come playoff time it does walk him right to ufa too it does that's why i was a little curious about the one year but we'll see how it plays out i mean
Starting point is 00:41:33 president's trophy winner final four you're probably looking at it like yes this is not the greatest move for the future but uh we might win now yeah so let's try to do that it works for now because it worked last season keep the band together they also got i forgot about this but they also got a salary reduced riley smith from the penguins and oh you know you're looking at the ages of the new york rangers panarin 32 is he being a jad 31 crider 33 cho check 31 you know heidel is an outlier 24 riley smith 33 uh lafreniere and and caco are obviously younger and then fox is 26 people forget out of fox now 26 right well he's brian he started late uh yes he did jake troop is 30 and we'll see if they move off him at the end of the season their defensive
Starting point is 00:42:18 core is a lot younger but i do think you know in a few years here they're gonna have to look at like are you in two years re-signing artemi panarin where's he gonna be um uh chris crider's up in three years he'll be 35 36 years old at that point uh vinny trocek is up in four years he'll be 35 like these are there will be changes with the rangers up front i feel like they're good enough that they're in a position where it's like ah who cares oh it's a win now yeah like yeah just win now you understand there will likely be pain um but also like just make trades like i i hate oh man this guy can't be moved this player has moved easily oh but not my team yeah but not yeah man like uh yeah as long as you don't have it's also their fucking job i know that's what
Starting point is 00:43:11 drives me crazy it's like oh it's really hard to make trades yeah you get paid three million bucks a year as a gm which is more than most of the guys skating for you because you have to do hard things yeah it's hard nobody said being an nhl gm is easy it's hard so stop bitching about it and you're making a fucking fortune make something happen guys i mean lafreniere was their breakout player last year that's great news for the future adam fox is only 26 that's great news shisterkin is going to be an elite goalie in this league for at least another half decade that's great news for the future build around that absolutely uh now the when when like lingren's when your fox is d pairing you know when that's the role you have and adam fox is your star
Starting point is 00:43:56 defenseman you probably just wanted to keep that together you know i feel like it makes sense even though like lingren had some of the worst defensive metrics he's had in a long time last season in terms of like analytics i feel like if adam fox has a d pair and he likes him then you bring him back yeah you know it just makes sense yes yeah i i uh the other signings uh three of them in montreal justin baron caden ghouli and arbor jack i will start with caden ghouli uh because this is a long-term deal at five and a half million dollars which could be an absolute steal for the canadians if caden ghouli gets anywhere close to where they think he's going to be and even if he doesn't it's still pretty good uh this is a this is a defenseman that they have thought a
Starting point is 00:44:37 lot of for a long long time by the way it expires when leo i believe is 11 why is this the bar yeah why because i just want context this new thing i steve will have a kid in the double digits uh so let's talk about gaden gooley a little bit obviously shift over to your left i will shift back why do you keep drifting i don't know man listen fast and furious over here he's your access to my armpit it might be i think that's what it is i just want a whiff of it 22 points last year for the montreal canadians to uh 18 the year before this guy obviously has you know it's unfortunate but if you're playing for the montreal canadians right now you're exposed to the worst of the worst in terms of not the team the vibes are great but like they're getting shelled and that's
Starting point is 00:45:19 not gonna last we were sort of talking before the show like i don't have a problem with anything they did like ghoulies that's a it's equal risk contract um for both sides um odds are he's way better than that so maybe it's not equal risk maybe you know maybe he left money on the table um he also gets like what is it over 30 million dollars yeah cry me a river yeah you'll be okay uh baron reasonable jack eye reasonable um i it's the montreal canadians uh almost everything they do i'm like oh yeah that's smart oh that's good that's good almost everything they do i'm like oh that's good and then they're nowhere near the playoffs like uh at some point and by some point i mean now this year they do have to take a step that is it this year i feel like we still got time
Starting point is 00:46:17 a step i think they gotta like a step they gotta where do they gotta finish they gotta finish like are they are they are you competing with the detroit red wings are you competing with the ottawa senators you competing with the sabers like you gotta not finish last is that what it is no if they finish last in the atlantic i'm like yeah i still think that's good for them yeah because I don't know. Are they better than the Red Wings? No. Are they better than the Leafs, Panthers, Boston, Tampa?
Starting point is 00:46:40 None of them. Like, last is kind of the place. They're fine. So, okay. How about this? Ottawa? Here's this question, then. When do they got to start winning games?
Starting point is 00:46:50 I think after this season, because I'm looking at this. After this one? I've got a lot of questions about the Tampa Bay Lightning. I want to know how Jake Gensel works out there. I'm very curious. And Stamkos not being there, and Hedman being captain, even though that's not been announced yet, I don't think. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:06 We all know who's going to be captain. Whatever. The point is, Tampa could fall off. Could. Probably won't. Boston could fall off. Could. Probably won't.
Starting point is 00:47:18 Leafs are probably going to be about the same. Panthers just won the cup. So then you've got three teams that are truly under a lot of pressure. The Sabres need to take a step forward, or we're going to start talking about Kevin Adams' job. The Detroit Red Wings, who just re-signed Patrick Kane, need to take a step forward or we're going to start
Starting point is 00:47:36 talking about Stevie Eisenman's job. There's a lot of rumors in Detroit right now that the Illich family is absolutely done. Done with not being in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:47:45 I don't think they've played a playoff game at Little Caesars. No, they haven't. They haven't. No. The family's mad because they built a new arena
Starting point is 00:47:52 and they haven't had one playoff date. And that's... The arena, they've been playing there for like eight years. Like, it's a long time. It's been a while.
Starting point is 00:47:59 And then, of course, the Ottawa Senators need to take a step forward because Michael and Lauer we'll settle for nothing less and and so if you're the Montreal Canadiens I think I'm with Jesse on this I'm like you guys go ahead and do silly stuff I've got Brandon Gallagher who's probably a lifetime Canadian I gotta offload that Anderson deal at some point because it's three more years damn uh Christian Dvorak is is up after this year Joel Armia um hopefully Kirby Doc who's still only
Starting point is 00:48:25 23 will be healthy this season because that was a little unfair 23 uh and Alex Newhook is still only 23 you need some guys to take some steps forward and and I the only thing I say with the Montreal Canadiens is get what you can for Dvorak Anderson and Armia at the trade deadline you might even want to trade Mike Matheson who is or David Savard who's up at the end of this year you know those would be valuable pieces to teams looking to get that but at a certain point you are going to have to get to high high super high-end talent and where I don't see it is up front not that Cole Caulfield and Nick Suzuki aren't high-end. Slav?
Starting point is 00:49:01 Slav could be. And here's the question. Is Slav a 40-goal score? Maybe. Maybe. Is Patrick Laine available? You bring him to Montreal. Definitely a 40-goal score in the past.
Starting point is 00:49:15 You know, I just think Montreal, I want to see them. I agree with taking a step forward. I think they need to upgrade the roster. That's why Laine does make some sense for them, because you can spend the time to see what he is now at this juncture in his NHL career. I mean, the Blue Jackets can too. And you're not playing him at center.
Starting point is 00:49:34 You're going to play him on the wing where he should play, right? Who is it worse for that they're bad, the Blue Jackets or the Habs? Oh, it's Blue Jackets. Right. Habs shouldn't care. I'm with Jesse on that completely. Finished last year. Yeah, Steve, if you had to pick the Habs to beat any team in the Atlantic
Starting point is 00:49:49 in a seven-game series, are you doing it? yeah they play in the same division as the leafs stop beat more than one out of every eight i think i think that they would challenge the ottawa senators oh yeah i think they would challenge the ottawa they'd beat them i mean i don't know they beat them but i think they'd be close goal goaltending is a big well it's a big factor and it's a big question mark for both teams i just oh wait the sins have hallmark yeah whoops i look i look at i look at the canadians and i say they're perfectly in the great point of their rebuild where
Starting point is 00:50:29 there's no expectations if you do good you're good if you're bad you're bad you have a just a great collection of young players let's just hope they all mature into something special yes i'm good with the habs they're pretty bad for a while man i like their moves yeah i do they went to the finals in 2020 yeah it's that's very recent 21 oh 21 sorry that's even that's even more to my point agony since three seasons it's three years not just not in the playoffs though three years in hell you look at the basement you look at how long the damn buffalo sabers have been trying to rebuild oh yeah let's emulate them no i'm saying no that the the habs are so much further along their curve so much earlier that they're in a great spot you're
Starting point is 00:51:13 definitely right i don't know i'm very happy with the haves have done so far you look at the collection of prospects and you say yeah that guy could be a guy i think slav could be an all-star for like 10 years of his career like he's gonna be something special and there's just so many other great players there that hopefully when they turn into what we think they can be so we all agree the pieces are there we all agree they generally do the right things and we've landed on they got to start winning 25 26 i don't think they could start winning whenever they want to start winning i think i think i'm not 526 i'm not putting a number on the team when it's like hey it's just watch and see i think i think you're you go into next year you want to go into next year's draft
Starting point is 00:51:51 because i think they've got two first round picks next year if i'm not mistaken isn't it yeah i think yeah which calgary's looks like there's a florida here let me find out i'm finding out cap or where's puckpedia calgary's puckpedia draft pick details they have uh it looks like yeah they've got calgary's so so what's crazy about it is montreal could have they could have two picks in the top 10 you should be bad this year calgary's gonna be bad this year unless it's hockey and they're and they're like some cinderella story surely that pick is top 10 protected uh surely uh i'm looking at it right now on hell is going actually puck pd is really valuable like it's really easy to navigate this montreal canadians acquired sean mahan
Starting point is 00:52:37 monohana and a conditional 25 first conditional conditions are first round selection acquired by montreal in the event calgary's 2024 first round choice is selected um uh is a selection between 22 so it was a 2024 but it slid to 25 no yeah uh so to exchange for a conditional 25 first round or 26 first round uh there's all the conditions list is as long as a university thesis but i didn't put this on the screen it's crazy this look at this what like i'm not reading that holy cow that's nice for you but i'm not reading so many conditions on this first round draft pick if calgary own a 2025 first round choice oh my goodness and it looks like a page from the bible you know it's just a wall of text for some reason florida is a part of this as well if florida owned
Starting point is 00:53:39 the 2025 first oh because it had to do with the huberto trade i think adam it's no it's too much yeah i don't know man it's too much it seems like it's protected though i mean that's a lot of words i think that's a lot of words i think calgary got it from florida and then sent it to montreal I think. Is that what it is? I don't know. Okay. Well, either way.
Starting point is 00:54:00 Holy. Wow. Either way, you got your. It looks like a hymn. A hymn. Yeah. As two Catholic kids, like this is giving me PTSD for the Bible. You could tell I'm the non-religious.
Starting point is 00:54:11 Yeah. You open it and oh boy, that's a lot of words. You got any Bibles with pictures? Like who brought the frankincense and myrrh? Oh my God. Hilarious. Hilarious. Oh man, that's funny.
Starting point is 00:54:24 Yeah. so uh i'm assuming i guess they won't have both but still i i say i'm with jesse this is the this is another vibes year for them just have fun party st louis your coach chuckles it up in the media go do your appearance go party on saturdays in montreal yeah yes uh now just nothing on the line justin baron also signed now this is justin baron and i'm saving arbor jack i so so hang on to him i know we got more opinions on him likely than justin baron but uh justin baron seems to be a guy that they have a lot of faith and believe in uh and it's like a million it's it's less than a variable deal uh how long is it again two years yeah like again how much uh 1.3 1.04 or something
Starting point is 00:55:05 like it's a ridiculous hang on i'm pulling it up again okay uh 1.15 oh oh and and who so it's free when i saw the justin baron thing is he's a right shooter they traded somebody and i think it was to new york and he's actually a good defenseman i can't remember you know what i'm talking about i thought it was a russian guy maybe it was to new york they traded a really valuable defenseman to make room for just we could also just look at him i know i don't know what you're talking about oh romanov romanov no no that was the islanders no uh you said new york let's just i thought um hang on hang on trade is it okay is it bad this is awful guys first of all last terrible contact is awful this is terrible content number two it has to bother islanders fans that i don't
Starting point is 00:55:55 think we're alone and when someone says oh man do you see what new york did we default to the rangers that's not good 100 that's disrespectful yeah yeah that's disrespect now i'm wrong it's the rangers and the islanders yeah even though the islanders are on long island ah i think they're in it but anyway i'm wrong don't worry about it justin barron let's talk about what uh no screw what were you doing well i thought i what are you what happened i i had just thought about it like mid show that i thought montreal traded a defenseman this summer but i'm not seeing it come up i don't think they did yeah i don't think they did either okay i got my i got my names wrong it doesn't matter somebody somebody would be like oh maybe adam's thinking about this
Starting point is 00:56:38 yeah it'll be like uh the the kraken traded to the lightning yeah probably that's whatever you This is what happens when you think of things mid-show. You're like, meh, wrong. Traded from Colorado with a second-round pick in 2024 that was used to select Carter George to the Montreal Canadiens for Arturi Lekkonen. That wasn't the one I'm talking about. I'm not talking about Justin Barron.
Starting point is 00:57:00 I thought they made room on him. That's what I'm talking about. It doesn't matter. For God's sake. If you look at it, this is a cannot-lose. That was the worst five minutes of the show's history. I don't think so. No, we've done way worse than that.
Starting point is 00:57:09 I'm exaggerating. Justin Barron, though. Three on the deserved interesting meter. Fair. okay i'll take that i'll take that um negative three justin baron by the way this will make you mad was born in 2001 there's like some 15 14 year olds in the olympics right now because they got skateboarding i know and the little kids are just so good at skateboarding they sent them it's awesome
Starting point is 00:57:33 um it's there's a lot of players born in the 2000s now i just feel justin baron low key if You weren't watching Montreal Canadiens games this year. And no offense, Montreal Canadiens fans. When you're at the bottom of the league, there aren't a lot of passive watchers, just the hardcores. 13 points in 48 games, including seven goals as a defenseman. And then with Laval, 11 points in 32. So this is a guy that can produce some points.
Starting point is 00:57:58 And hey, do you hate a 30-point defenseman on your roster for a million dollars? Like, that's a pretty good deal. If he's here for the next two years and not good, who cares? if he's here for the next two years and he's worth keeping they'll keep him it's like they're in a really good spot like as long as expectations are low they're in a good spot but for me i'm like it'd be nice to win more games than you have which brings us to arbor jack guy who is uh a fan favorite this guy is absolutely loved and adored by montreal canadians fans and he should be tough as nails um you know when you look at the advanced numbers for arbor jack guy
Starting point is 00:58:38 it's not like he explodes off the page but he explodes into the headlines with uh some pretty devastating fights and some devastating hits explodes into the head with his hands yeah yeah yeah uh 1.3 million dollars which is enough that if they need to bury him that there's no cap penalty for that too uh although i have a feeling like a guy like arbor jack guy if he ever went on waivers would be claimed in a heartbeat oh my god yeah oh my god yeah he's just one of those it not i don't want to say like matt rempe level but he's one of those guys you're like for whatever reason i feel like i need him i need him on my team people are more scared of arbor jack high than matt rempe well because he wins fights at this stage in his career
Starting point is 00:59:18 dude that guy's a problem that guy's an enormous problem um and he spent so much of last year injured that i can't help but feel like the first time the montreal canadians and new york rangers play both of those guys just lock eyes and go doesn't it feel like we were destined to do this that will be actually i i think that the heavyweights are making a resurgence around the nhl it's kind of nuts uh it's and it's happened quickly yeah i think there will be some must watch uh matchups this year i think reeves is still in that conversation i think jack guy rempy who else would you put in there guys uh buddy from columbus i should remember his name we just talked about him matthew olivier yes i think it's his name a good
Starting point is 01:00:05 rempy fight uh nick delorier uh still in that conversation um felino oh marcus felino marcus marcus felino will go you oh okay if we're going into so i didn't think marcus felino because he's too good of a player you know what i mean yeah so like it like okay do we get into like eric branson like is is still a problem kade mcdermott uh is sam bennett in there no he's a problem no but he's not like heavy heavyweight it's an interesting conversation i think michael posetta thinks he is oh i call him kate curtis mcdermott yeah i thought i thought i was wrong but i didn't i I wasn't confident enough to correct it.
Starting point is 01:00:54 Michael Pozzetta is nuts. Dylan McElrath isn't in the NHL enough. Like I was going to throw in another one, Boko Imama. Not in the NHL enough. What about Pozzetta? You can't count him, yeah. If you had like a 10-on-10 fight of the 10 toughest guys in the NHL versus the 10 toughest guys in the AHL.
Starting point is 01:01:14 I think the AHL might win. Oh, yeah. It's the Wild West. Yeah, yeah. It's kind of nuts. I remember when we did one of the Easter Seals tournaments and Steve Thomas was on our team and he said at the beginning of his career in the 80s when he was in the Leafs system that he would do anything he could to stay out of the AHL because he was a young, smallish prospect that scored a lot and he was the type of guy. and i found this interesting that that uh fighters actually went after because because they're like i i know that the least are going to notice me if i punch out their best prospect oh yeah isn't that
Starting point is 01:01:52 nuts like you're like wait is now we're like no the heavyweights must face each other how come the heavyweight uh nailed the skilled player that doesn't match up in the 80s it's like no that's who i want i want little guy i'm six foot seven i'm gonna crush little guy i'm gonna make a name for myself yeah jim ross make yourself famous kid yeah no that's 100 what it is it was it was always funny a few years ago and you know the narrative around the leafs is oh man they're so soft wish this team wasn't so soft and then you go down to the marley's roster and it's like five pitbulls with like guns mounted on their back speaking of pitbulls with guns mounted on their back kyle clifford just resigned today too no way i had no idea yeah so there's one of them
Starting point is 01:02:37 Didn't think you would stick around. He is lead Pitbull, I think. All right. All right. Here it is. I'm not making a video. No? No.
Starting point is 01:02:46 Ah, damn it. That's fair. I'm putting my foot down. Hayden, you can't make me. Last guy I wanted to throw out there. I was going to do some trivia on if you could name him, but I'll just name him. Scott Salbrin. Oh, Scott Salbrin.
Starting point is 01:02:58 Where Matthew said, who the fuck are you? Yes. And then he did go into the Leafs system. He played one game for the Toronto Maple Leafs, six games for the Marlies, and that was it but he's uh he's a big tough guy yes he is yeah yeah yeah three games with the sharks last season uh spent the most of the season with the barracuda down yeah i'm looking at that hockey db page jesse it's it's a lot of pink yeah yeah the pink is uh ahl yeah a lot of pink yeah so i don't know if he counts he probably falls into that uh ahl guys let me just say this if we were
Starting point is 01:03:30 going to power rank ahl twitter accounts san jose barracuda are number one 18 goals though yeah not a hundred and ninety holy smokes a lot of penalty minutes penalty minutes yeah i love the barracuda 18 goal how was he on the how was he on the ice enough to get 18 goals i'm shocked that's a lot for the
Starting point is 01:03:50 ahl too by the way 18 goals is significant it's a different league yo does sabran have a piss missile yeah he might let's look at it on the lease yo let's put sabran versus martin firk hard he did not score on the lease oh Oh, you mean on the Leafs?
Starting point is 01:04:05 He scored against the Leafs. I thought you meant while he was on the Leafs. Isn't that frustrating? The only two goals he's ever scored were with the Senators against the fucking Leafs. He scored, it was the first goal of the season the Leafs surrendered, I think. There was a very brief moment of time where he was outscoring Austin Matthews. But Matthews ended that game with two. Because of course he did.
Starting point is 01:04:27 That's silly. Yeah. That is very funny. All right, look into the camera and say, who the fuck are you to Scott? who the fuck are you i'd love to have matthews didn't say that i don't even think he said i want to have scott if scott sabrin if anybody knows scott sabrin i would love to have him on in september and be like scott how did you score 18 goals with 192 penalty missed explain with the barracuda yeah like explain tell tell us how that's possible how many how many how many fights
Starting point is 01:04:54 would he have to have per goal like how many fights between goals you know 192 is 10 ish 10 10 ish fights between i don't know that's 10 ish penalty minutes yeah and it's wild it's wild um and the barracuda by the way were oh no never mind those are this year's standings i was gonna say they were awful but uh let me see where they were last year oh yeah they know they were awful last yeah well the barracuda were bad and sharks were bad this is not great oh that's not super duper they were last no second last in the league but who in the pacific oh yeah yeah but they were top three or four in penalty minutes jesse so oh scott did all that the tucson roadrunners used to wow they 1200 penalty minutes they're almost 1300 damn i can't believe usually when your team is
Starting point is 01:05:44 dog shit at the nhl level at least you have like a decent ahl team yeah this is a weird way to look at it but like the sharks could be so young this year that sabran just ends up playing every game because it's like well you know if anyone touches any of our top five picks uh you need to like kill them who's the coachella valley who are they affiliated to seattle that's Remember, they just took the head coach. Right, right. Bilesman. Right, right.
Starting point is 01:06:13 Because I remember thinking, like, wow, Coachella Valley is really good when I was looking at the standings. And then thinking, like, freaking Seattle. I remember thinking that. Freaking Seattle. Freaking Seattle. They're going to have some reinforcements. Yeah, but don't make me call Sid Sixero.
Starting point is 01:06:30 Colder Cup means nothing. Laval Rocket were also not good. That's surprising with the Montreal Canadiens being not good. maybe with these teams that they're graduating too many guys like uh yeah he's never gonna play for the barracuda right it's so with the habs it's it's not just there's they're graduating too many guys it's they're all getting injured oh yeah yeah no they've had a huge problem with that yeah uh how many goalies have the habs had to go through and then they got they all got healthy and then they traded them all and then you know it's it's um it is not uncommon to see
Starting point is 01:07:06 a struggling nhl team with a struggling ahl team the rocket were also in a tough division they actually finished ahead of some teams in the overall league standings that made the playoffs like they finished ahead of lee lehigh valley they finished ahead of texas they finished at a man showball all who made the playoffs in their divisions even though uh laval was 22 so not as bad as i said they just finished last in their division the bottom five ahl teams from last season the san diego gulls 28 the iowa wild 29 san jose barracuda 30 chicago wolves 31 and last place the bridgeport islanders wow no really interesting how did how did the how did steve's favorite team henderson do henderson nevada uh the henderson silver knights were 27th they're
Starting point is 01:07:51 just outside the bottom five no henderson i think is my second team now behind the san diego gulls oh right who was 28 man okay listen i'm dying i want i because of those san diego ad reads with tim hortons i'm dying to go do a show in san diego because san diego is actually beautiful we gotta go see the goals that's why i wanted to go because it's nice yeah and it's a good I've heard it's nice. See the goals. Oh! Like, see goals.
Starting point is 01:08:20 That's what SDP goes to see the goals. Oh, my God. That's the name of the trip. Win your way onto the see the goals plane. That's like a four out of ten on the deserve to title a meter, okay? What was the AHL standings on the deserve to interesting a meter? That was a six. Okay.
Starting point is 01:08:40 Yeah, that's a good. I'm interested. Is it ahead of Adam forgetting that nobody made a trade? There was... Did I fucking dream this? Dude, that was negative three. Weird. It's so weird.
Starting point is 01:08:49 Yes, you did. I got... No. Here's what's going to bug me. I'm going to spend like all afternoon going, who the fuck made that trade? There was... I think you made it up. I must have.
Starting point is 01:08:57 Maybe I dreamt it. I don't know. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Jesse. Yeah. I disagree with Adam, though. The deserved title-o-meter. This episode's called See the Gulls.
Starting point is 01:09:06 Hey. Let's go. All right. All right. Hey. Traveling this summer? No. Well, you're not.
Starting point is 01:09:13 Have you ever been to Italy? No, I'd like to go. Oh, okay. He's been to very quiet parts of Scotland, though. Yes. Where there might not be a lot of Wi-Fi, right, Steve? Yeah, yeah, it's true. And it's easy to get lost.
Starting point is 01:09:26 Sometimes you need something like Saley. Saley is from Nord Security and is the new eSIM service app. How does it work? We download it once. An eSIM can be installed only once. eliminates the the need for you to you know install it in every country you save time you avoid scams you minimize roaming fees this is key and you stay connected no more wandering around looking for public wi-fi spots when you're abroad with an e-sim you are always connected and here's
Starting point is 01:09:54 the thing it's good with all ios and all android devices 24 7 support chat support available 24 7 as well full refund if you need it um and all you have to do is buy a plan there are multiple plans in over 150 countries also note uh nord vpn uh people very nice they are they'll be very nice in the chat support have you dealt with the nord vpn great people i love that okay andrea fantastic okay shout out andrea so there are plans for 150 different countries around the world you install the e-sim if you ever purchased an e-sim plan on the saly website you'll just need to download the app first and then you can obviously use that while you're traveling this summer in countries that may not have it or you know what listen there are a huge swaths of canada that
Starting point is 01:10:39 don't have good wi-fi or cell coverage uh we know all about it here so let me tell you something you might need this when you go traveling and you check it out at sailey s-a-i-l-y dot com slash dangle use the code dangle d-a-n-g-l-e to get an exclusive 15 off your first purchase again that's just for sdpn listeners only go to the code i don't know he doesn't know the code this is why i repeat it okay people are like why do you say it twice because of steve s-a-i-l-y.com slash sdp no it's dangle dangle you genuinely didn't know b-a-n-g-l-e i'm like i don't know adam will take it from here sailey.com slash dangle 15 off dang got it slash dangle dangle Two in five Canadians will hear the words, you have cancer.
Starting point is 01:11:31 That's why every step and dollar raised matters. On September 19th, join thousands in Toronto for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Walk. Challenge yourself, friends, and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research. Together, we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer. Register today at pmcfwalk.ca. eric stall signed a one-year contract one year one day contract with carolina retire there it seems like the right thing to do you know uh pretty much a a canes legend is the best player that's ever played for them maybe besides rod the bod i don't know how you power like frederick
Starting point is 01:12:12 anderson frederick anderson greatest goaltender no that's arthur's urbex did he play more games he might have played more games than as a hurt more yeah yeah he did it's tricky because oh man where did brindamore start philly oh he was a part of the was he not a part of the uh how did he he wasn't on the legion of doom but i think he was on that no he was their second line second line center but i forget how he got there i don't think they drafted him either way it's um uh it's it's it seems like carolina despite the fact that they won't spend any money they have when you're there you're like there forever you're a like i still see paul maurice as a carolina hurricanes coach you know what i mean like there's just something about that it's like when you're a
Starting point is 01:12:56 cane you're a cane forever it holds on to a lot of players yeah yeah and i think that's something to be said for except for eric holla who hates yeah yeah yeah he does but they exposed him in the expansion draft i don't blame him yeah but he has a cane suck bracelet like does he actually i'm pretty sure he does that is hilarious i didn't know that i i think i think it just goes to show the kind of culture the fan culture there is obviously huge but it kind of shows the fan and player connection is is pretty special in in raleigh and and and i think that's you know we talk about markets like nashville and tampa so much because they've won carolina has also won a cup and did it before sorry nashville didn't win a cup um carolina did it uh right after i
Starting point is 01:13:36 think tampa did it or right before um and it doesn't matter there's something cool going on in carolina and uh i think that's neat uh eric saw uh part of the he was a sophomore for their inaugural not inaugural their first and only stanley cup victory um in 2006 uh for some reason that's not what i remember him for i remember him for being a really good rookie in 0304 but then being one of the players who were too good for the ahl to be forced to play in the ahl during 0405 because of the entire season lock what did uh what did he put up i'm glad you asked he just ripped shit up in 77 games with the Lowell
Starting point is 01:14:20 Lock Monsters. That's a great name. 26 goals and 51 assists for 77 points in 77 games. He led the team in scoring two points up on Chuck Kobesu.
Starting point is 01:14:36 Oh, I do. He was a highly rated talent. I am going to go ahead and guess that Stahl is the reason Kobesu had 38 goals. hey question holy shit question uh why was it a lot of nhl players couldn't play in the ahl during those lockouts um i think you needed to be uh eligible like to be sent down you know what i mean so if you weren't then you were like you were stuck you're going to sweden you're going to
Starting point is 01:15:05 russia you're going you had to play wherever like well there's that famous mic'd up in the ihl i think it was or uhl mic'd up in the uhl where uh the uhl is like i don't know it's probably along the lines of like echl sphl these days and there's a mic'd up uh segment for a pre-game ceremony where this team rolls out chris chelios and darian hatcher a little unfair what do you do yeah what do you do that's uh that video is um that famous clip come on chelios you old fuckscape you don't remember that one i don't remember that but i also don't have the memory that you have of these things come on chelios uh another notable signing in carolinaland is evgeny kuznetsov who just left uh the hurricanes after 24 points in
Starting point is 01:16:03 63 games last year has signed a four-year contract with uh sk or sorry cka sk uh is it st petersburg yeah sk okay oh no cka it's cka i think what see you'll see oh wait oh so that's not st petersburg no unless they changed their logo yeah anyway he is signed with the what's hilarious about the khl st petersburg what i love about the khl is if you don't know the the logos and i don't uh all of them um then you don't know what team they play on uh with the khl twitter account because they're just wrote koozie is back and then there's the red star and whatever i mean i'm pretty sure that's csk in moscow yeah so it's moscow then but also their alphabet's different i don't fucking know yeah the russian alphabet always screws me up too it doesn't matter listen
Starting point is 01:16:51 good good for koozie um it is interesting that he left but and and i i guess he'll be taking a pay cut too yeah we were talking about that before the show i don't understand um adam you could have just like not got the news from twitter i know but like an article i know kuznetsov signed a four-year contract with ska st petersburg oh there you go yeah so it is ska so the c is the s in russian you could just i just looked at an article st petersburg apparently you know war aside st petersburg apparently is a great place to live war aside yeah well you kind of have to you have to say that don't you know i know but it's maybe the craziest beginning of a sentence we've ever had um uh he was in the final season of a 64.2 million dollar deal signed in 2017
Starting point is 01:17:36 and he will make less but i think i would imagine that uh he is um probably just jack to go home yeah if you want to go home you want to go home and it is what it is i you know he's made millions and millions and millions over his career so maybe money is no object and he doesn't care he just wants to go back to his home country um that being said that's an nhl player yeah that's happened before though that's an well yeah it's been a not called left called kovalchuk kovalchuk it's been quite some time that a player who at least was once a star left long before he needed to because that's like is that guy even 30 i don't even know i'll look it up yeah yeah he's maybe like freshly 30 yeah something like that it's difficult because he kind of came over late
Starting point is 01:18:27 too what's i'm surprised what's uh i think a interesting note about this is that he's 32 okay in 2019 so uh kuznetsov was in the player assistance program this past season right and then he came out of that yes but in 2019 when he got in trouble with cocaine and he tested positive for that there was a ban uh for him to play in russia for four years what yeah they banned him because of the positive test and being a russian athlete he was banned from playing uh in russia for four seasons for four years and that ban is would have been newly lifted because that happened in 2019 and now he's gone back so who knows maybe he was waiting for that to expire this whole time wow yeah wow you guys also brought up a great point when we were talking about it i'm like but
Starting point is 01:19:14 That's not where he's from, like St. Petersburg. Chelyabinsk. He's from Chelyabinsk, and you guys pointed out, well, that doesn't mean he still lives there. I don't know what Chelyabinsk is like, but I can tell you St. Petersburg is. Why don't you live in Skarbrose, if you're from there? You know? Yeah, St. Petersburg is known as a really lively city in Russia.
Starting point is 01:19:38 Pre-war, when people visited, it was like Moscow, St. Petersburg were two of the cities you had to see if you were interested in russian culture and russian history and all that stuff so uh and also that team is if i'm not mistaken they usually sign a bazillion guys like moscow and saint peter sign a bazillion guys and then they loan them out to the smaller clubs if they're not going to make the main roster not that koozie's gonna have to deal with that but like i don't wasn't there like a prospect that was like loaned it wasn't was it not mitch kauf that was loaned to sochi uh yeah it was it was matvey mitchkov uh he was like healthy scratched and then he goes to hc sochi and he's
Starting point is 01:20:15 their best player and i don't know if the season ended this way but like for a significant chunk of the season he was out pacing any player on his former team in terms of scoring they also famously had uh igor ozhiganov who oh yeah who they knew they were gonna lose to the leafs so they're like man they just healthy scratched him half the games even though he was one of their better defensemen they just sort of made him shitty uh lastly before we get to the press conference i did want to say that utah hockey club is holding a summer analytics challenge uh today there's being yesterday uh there will be an opportunity for an individual to earn a part-time remote meaning you can work from anywhere so this applies to anybody that's interested paid internship with
Starting point is 01:21:01 the team's analytics department for the first half of the 24-25 season the challenge requires entrants to demonstrate an ability to identify and analyze a hockey topic of their choice by submitting a report that provides a detailed analysis of their subject participants should pick a hockey topic of interest to study and analyze you have to have it submitted to them by friday august 23rd at 5 p.m mountain time general manager bill armstrong will start meeting with applicants virtually in september so even if you don't get it you still might meet bill armstrong which is kind of neat and this feels like you know people are like how do i get into working in sports if especially if you're mathematically inclined because i'm assuming obviously being in the
Starting point is 01:21:43 analytics department that's is going to be a part of this this is a great way to get in it's a great way to see how the sausage is made too and it is open to united states and canada throwing that out Oh, there you go. I think it'd be funny if Steve applied. Oh, I think you should apply. Hayden, are you applying? Yeah, I already did. Oh, hold on.
Starting point is 01:22:00 You applied? I haven't submitted it, but I've put together something. Dude. Because stats are kind of my thing. Yeah, Hayden's stats are sweet. They're awesome. Damn, we're going to lose Hayden. You're like a casual Wild fan.
Starting point is 01:22:13 You're going to be GM of the fucking Utah Yetis. Maybe. Damn. You don't really like the Wild, though. yeah i'd have to switch allegiances yeah i have to get rid of all my i feel like you'd be able to manage it uh pretty neat though that's cool yeah i hope you get it good for you hey sick do we get to uh do we get the first exclusive interview once you get the job i'll be the insider oh we're gonna have a bunch of leaks yeah yeah sorry bill
Starting point is 01:22:42 hey they're like where are you getting this info from never mind yeah hey do you guys have any info on any other team no so we got you ask we don't we got a bunch of detail on alan walsh client contracts and utah yeti news we don't even get that no we don't hey alan can we radio silence all right i thought we'd ask yeah yeah yeah so anyway i thought that was neat and uh good for utah and it is again people i saw people tweeting it at them going why don't you pay your interns and i'm like you didn't read it they are paying their interns oh they are who's saying that well yeah because i saw that reaction people were saying pay your interns yeah you just read that
Starting point is 01:23:29 and i said it's a paid internship yeah oh yeah steve wasn't listening it's okay that feels like a well no because i just remembered that reaction it wasn't high enough on steve's deserve to interesting a meter for me to get him i didn't have him hooked i didn't have him hooked it's my fault it was a five it was teetering between four and six and then hayden skyrocketed to at least Steve didn't hear the paper because money is no object Saudi. Yeah, that's true. That's true. The money is like
Starting point is 01:23:58 I already got too much. Sorry Alan Wall stuff, Utah stuff made up league stuff. Yeah, no Saudi Arabia in Saudi Arabia in ice hockey. I you know what guys? I think we're going somewhere. No, we got something to cook in right. Oh yeah. Why
Starting point is 01:24:15 wouldn't you tune into this? Yeah, anyway, unpaid internship up to fly my helicopter yeah uh now people are saying uh people are angrily mad at this but i think good for good for you this is how you make your way into nhl franchises so um shout out to utah for doing this and i would like to see more hockey teams do this i mean i'm just stoked to hear someone's hiring yeah i'm so sick of oh did you hear there's more layoffs at every company in the world it's one of those and you're like every company in the world yeah it's all of them every single one there's 20 companies that haven't started yet that are doing layoffs yeah
Starting point is 01:24:49 it's kind of nuts right oh fuck yeah so let's do uh should we do the press conference two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life saving research. Starting point is 01:25:43 December 31st. You gotta try breakfast at A&W. At participating A&W locations in Ontario. The Presser SDP The Steve
Starting point is 01:25:59 Dangle Press Conference. We have two things we need to get to before we close for the summer and we go spend time at Steve's pool. This reaction to the girl dad conversation comes from contracts wrath knock six seven three seven definitely not a bot but they're not a bot um jesse saying you can only have girls to be a girl dad this is
Starting point is 01:26:25 coming from the same guy who says if you score four goals it's not a hat trick gonna pass on your opinion damn oh that's a smackdown oh my god wow so all right valid whatever wow four goals is not a hat trick screw you and then i'm gonna present two opinions from both sides and then i'm gonna get michelle's reaction because she heard it and she's coming back at you and i think she has some really concrete evidence and it's a re-up what we're talking about steve keeps calling himself a girl dad and my sister was angry at him because she says you can only be a girl dad if you only have girls uh you know why i hate this like i already can never win an argument with one blake now you got two i got two i got two stubborn this is you imagine imagine they get
Starting point is 01:27:14 into one michelle and jesse oh never ended never that's called my life that is funny this argue at a family get together and then stay up until four in the morning angrily texting each other i once i once told her she wasn't an athlete i was like what how did you get how are you still living she's still been mad at me it's been like 10 years she's still mad at me like uh tony soprano you never had the makings of a varsity athlete that's you and her yeah it's crazy um we're not competitive uh jh jw7pu says nah steve is definitely a girl that i'm a girl uh in my opinion the definition of girl dad is defined by the relationship between the father and daughter rather than the quantity of daughters or children so there you go there's one opinion on
Starting point is 01:28:01 that side and then we got a tweet from fiona that i'm gonna pull up right now fiona said i would argue that girl dad is for dads who have girls first not necessarily girls only so there's a argument against you that's still me and yeah so adam i think adam qualifies for girl dad in every sense of the word all you have is a girl you had her first adam is undisputedly yeah no girl dad nobody's arguing no argument against it adam steve however had a boy first and then a girl and now was like i'm a girl dad um so michelle came back one she says she's not a misogynist i disagree the proof is in the pudding you know what that's what they all say yeah uh secondly she says steve is wrong and adam is wrong yeah well you're not adam is wrong because
Starting point is 01:28:50 girl dad was not popularized by russell wilson oh it wasn't girl dad was popularized by kobe who has all daughters oh i did not know this so that is where girl dad and everything it became popularized i so if we're going by she says if we're going by the tradition of girl dad it was a dad who had all girls as a girl dad i have to say i disagree yeah no no keep telling women they're wrong you're doing you're doing your service as a girl dad by telling a woman that she's out of place jesse i will i will always call out misogynists okay i will always go back at misogynists and michelle is one and the least athletic misogynist she has plenty of friends that are girls oh i bet you i bet you do i bet you do oh yeah plenty of friends who are girls
Starting point is 01:29:50 She doesn't see gender, Steve. Oh, yeah, I bet you don't. I don't like being associated with two men who sit into a microphone and bark back at a woman that she's incorrect. Get out of here. You know what I love about this? That's what's happening on this podcast. And I am here to defend women and say that Michelle's opinion is the correct one
Starting point is 01:30:14 because I lean on girls and their opinion on girl dads. see i call them women jesse but anyway um what i would say is that no keep barking this is the most wolf wolf this is the wolf wolf blake family thing because michelle comes back and she comes for both of us like that's your family thing it's like it's like oh i'm not even like we're on the same i thought i thought going in this i'm like oh michelle and i are basically on the same team fuck no you she's coming for me too just like do your research adam like get all the facts wrong is what you do the biggest gentlest smile and she tells us something we disagree and then it's first of all fucko like first of all well and she is your older sister right she is my oldest so
Starting point is 01:30:59 this is where the debate squad came from the both of them are they this is where jesse gets it uh comes from michelle i don't know you see the misogyny no oh no oh yeah yeah i'm the misogynist he's refusing to stand up to it right now that's true no no yeah no no keep telling michelle she's wrong no no absolutely yeah i will always speak truth to power just all the all the ladies out there who listen to the show know where steve stands and it's not with you with girls against girl dads unite listen we're better than now yeah right no i didn't get it then i had a daughter and i'm like oh like treat them nice like raise them properly yeah it's crazy i hadn't thought about that before that no yeah they they deserve like equal pay and like women's sports are cool
Starting point is 01:31:51 like i i understand now yeah i get it now they're like the moment she was born i went oh wasn't caitlin clark drafted the same month as your daughter's birth pretty sure no coincidence that's when that no yeah no coincidence no the last thing we have to do on the show to end the summer or to get into the summer i have one thing too but but what is it no do you guys care about some league leaders that'll that'll be hilarious that hayden came up with do you care can i sure yeah yeah read them all right real quick real quick yeah who was the saves leader name someone name a goalie uh from the nhl this past year yeah connor hellebark okay go jesse that's a good pick uc soros 1672 hot damn that makes sense uh shorthanded goals who led oh i know this one um
Starting point is 01:32:35 no no i'm upset just signed a big contract i forget um elias petterson just signed a big contract didn't he uh brock faber uh travis connect me with six damn it uh penalties drawn this will surprise you connor mcdavid michael bunting matthew kachuk 50 that does not surprise He drew 100 minutes in penalties. Hits. Who led the NHL in hits? Matt Martin. Luke Shen.
Starting point is 01:33:07 Jeremy Lozon, 383. Hot damn. Block shots. Hint, it's a defenseman. Thank you. Oh, good. On a team that's not good defensively, but this defenseman's good. All right, which duck?
Starting point is 01:33:23 No, not that bad. Dylan DeMello. Somebody who led the... I don't know. No, I don't know. Colton Pareko with 218. Oh, my God. Shootout goals, and I will give you a hint.
Starting point is 01:33:34 Montreal is in love with this person. Nick Suzuki. No. Patrick Laine. The other guy. No. Cole Coffield? Cole Coffield with five.
Starting point is 01:33:40 The other guy? This is a crazy number. How many face-off wins did face-off win leader Sidney Crosby have? So Sidney won face-offs. How many did he win? 8,700. That's a lot. Way too many.
Starting point is 01:33:57 1,600. 1,090. Still. Guys. I should go to 1,8700. Game-winning goals. Who led the league? Who led the league?
Starting point is 01:34:07 Austin Matthews. I'll give you the number. It's 12 game-winning goals. Austin Matthews. Austin Matthews. Jack Hyman. Braden Point. What?
Starting point is 01:34:13 Wow. Yeah. Okay. 12 of his goals were game-winners. Average time. Wait. Austin Matthews scored 60. What is it?
Starting point is 01:34:19 Nine. 69 goals, and 12 of them weren't game-winning goals? He wasn't as clutch as Braden Point, the stats would say. That's funny. according to future uh stats intern yeah according to utah yeti's employee average time on ice it was 25 54 who had it the highest time on ice highest time on ice it's always someone who has to kill car um who's a somebody on the jets oh josh morris josh morris uh john carlson but you had the right idea defenseman that plays a lot yeah yeah for the uh washington capitals four uh four
Starting point is 01:35:03 or five more it's real real yeah i don't know these are most goals austin matthews most goals against while on the ice so most goals on ice against is the way it's written right right and And this name is a man. This is an ugly stat. Jesus. I didn't realize it was this bad. Hey, no, my God. Eric Carlson.
Starting point is 01:35:23 Okay. That's a good. Yeah, it's a good. Yeah, it's not right. It's not right, but it's a good guy. It's on your reaction. Sorry. I shouldn't have given him.
Starting point is 01:35:31 Who's buddy on the Sharks? Marino wrong team ducks. Damn. Name the player. I mean, it has to be Fowler Fowler. Hey, 141. Shit. That's awful.
Starting point is 01:35:45 Now, you can see why guys like Simo Benoit had terrible advanced stats. Even if you're a good player, you could never have good stats in that environment. Most goals on ice, four. So, scored while player on ice. What? So, it's basically the opposite of the last stat. Oh. Most goals on ice, four.
Starting point is 01:36:05 Most goals, four on ice. McDavid. Good guess. Nikita Kutrov. Good guess. Nathan McKinnon. Well, it was one or the other. is 187 and that's insane because because the colorado avalanche for a lot of this year and
Starting point is 01:36:21 even producer drew said it they're like a one-line team and that's a fucking good line though holy shit who led the league in shooting percentage zach hyman uh hyman uh somebody somebody else reinhardt reinhardt damn it 24 and a half takeaways this is a good one usually it's mark stone but it's not this year austin matthews oh damn barkoff malcolm 90 what what yeah takeaways are an odd stat because it does depend on properly at all they're never kept properly the takeaways and giveaways are incorrectly tracked by the nhl yeah public stats internally every team has their own system it's more accurate that way and giveaways tracked by the nhl a name will mitch marner and it's because remember it's always guys that have a ton of uh the puck a ton
Starting point is 01:37:08 marner's a good guess who's your guess i was kidding i was kidding oh well because somebody with the puck a lot who's your real guest then jess uh giveaways most giveaways and this is the last one mckinnon okay so you say mckinnon morgan riley because you made it sound like it was a leaf david pasternak oh there you go yeah but again you got a picture of somebody who's a high usage player 100 oh here bring the mic down hayden has one more hayden's got one more i guess you you guys can all guess on this one who had the you might have it on your text there adam but who had the most penalty minutes total oh i don't know is it like rempy no you didn't play enough there's the fights and all who had the most and how many would it have been
Starting point is 01:37:46 i'm gonna say matthew kuchak oh that's a good one i'm trying to think of someone who was like kicked out of a bunch of games i i know it is i think it's the the other kuchak is brady right the answer it's absolutely brady the answer with 153 penalty minutes this season is liam o'brien coyote great when we were having the heavyweight discussion we completely forgot about liam you know how i know liam o'brien he is a great fantasy pickup if you oh yeah if you need penalty minutes are a stat in your fantasy which they are in mine like he's a great pickup no every uh morning look through the highlights or whatever it's like oh he fought again yeah like if he if liam o'brien did not play in arizona last year we'd be talking about him not quite as much as rempy but he'd be
Starting point is 01:38:36 in the same conversation he's not as electric like he doesn't have a cult of personality that rempy has but as a fighter yeah he fights every game he's got the big beard oh yeah yeah 100 pretty cool okay jesse you had the last thing uh steve has the last thing oh uh you gotta do a pie thing yeah yeah so so hayden is gonna leave the room uh not because we don't love him but because he's leaving us for utah no uh he's going to get something so steve explain what is about to happen yeah what are you doing there was a stream i think it was during the playoffs where i was trying to encourage people to uh gift as many memberships as possible um and they're like well if we hit our target what are you gonna do for us and i couldn't think of anything on the spot you'd be
Starting point is 01:39:20 amazed how hard it is to come up with something on the spot so i was like i don't know i'll get pied in the face and i haven't paid up yet so it's time that i pay up now justin fisher ordered this pie on uber eat no he didn't no he went to the store down the street oh he went to the store down the street this looks like a pumpkin pie it is a pumpkin pie it's a little early to be doing a pumpkin pie don't you think uh fuck you i mean you know isn't that usually a fall thing pumpkin pie like a oh i thought you meant in the day to be having pie no and i was like i'm a grown-up i'll actually have pumpkin pie whenever i want now i now i want to say this i want to say this it's not a steve pie in the face if jesse doesn't do it no no jesse you've got to do it jesse has
Starting point is 01:40:02 pied steve in the face twice once with an anchovy pie and once with uh what was the other one what was the other one that was apple the one at 888 uh yeah you freaking so you got me with a bunch of whipped cream but then i guess they didn't think it through and this is a conversation justin and i actually had to have they they pied me in the face with a pie that had a top crust so they just mashed me in the face with a solid food part of getting pied is the mess yeah so there was no lemon meringue or anything so we came up with pumpkin i think is it funny if he does it to himself he's just like sitting there like a masochist yeah steve can you pie yourself in the face yes jesse good idea okay is that stupid or
Starting point is 01:40:52 should i do it i mean i like when you put because you you're thorough yeah but i might hurt you yo he's bumped his nose a few times jesse raiden punched me like jesse can you do you gotta do it why do i gotta i've done it twice now i think the people want to see a third no adam it's your turn step up to the plate you've never pied steve steve it'll be ridiculous if you pied yourself it's a little too a little too much it'll people start thinking you like it um i think it's adam's turn all right all right i think it's adam's turn to officially So I'm going to move into Steve's camera. Or we can just go to the three shots.
Starting point is 01:41:32 We can get around. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Three shots is the best. All right. Now, listen, this is the last thing that we will do before we end the season. And I just want to remind you that September 21st. No, I'm in the splash zone.

Starting point is 01:41:59 times next year I think you like it all right and then we're gonna hit the extra ready I'll pie it and I'll hit the extra no no I'm just gonna gently I'm not gonna hit you like Jesse hit you no no I'll get closer that's you know you stay in the shot all right I don't want to get in the splash uh Hayden just uh do a one shot on Steve here because I'm gonna get in close no no I want to see the pie and we get we do the full shot all right there you go in three two you gotta look me in the face yeah one oh no you rubbed it there it is pumpkin was the right is it good by look at them look at them look at the nose
