Starting point is 00:01:57 create an online shop or something of that ilk or just a website and what we used when it was scary was shopify actually we used a different platform and then we went over to shopify and we're like oh this is a lot easier well which is better when we say much better steve and i have fixed our name to the project but jesse did it all we're one team we all did it that's right and shopify made it so easy to set up our shop and we got everything yeah you guys got an a on the project yeah anyway But Shopify made it easy to get the A. And Jesse, again, I always ask you about this, but to me, the part of this that's got to be the most intricate
Starting point is 00:02:32 is setting up the store where we get our merch. The back end of it where it's like, oh, somebody orders something and then it automatically plugs and plays with whatever merch company you're using or however you deliver your goods. It's really easy with Shopify to get all that done. So you can make it through your first few months real easy, a lot easier with Shopify. Business isn't always easy, but Shopify is.
Starting point is 00:02:54 And here's the great thing. They've got an AI assistant sidekick that is ready to help you build, troubleshoot, and keep moving. No need to wait in line. And obviously, they've got great customer service as well. Check it out. And if you're serious about it, start your free trial at Shopify.com slash SDP today. You heard that right. Start your free.
Starting point is 00:03:13 It's free. It costs you free. Shopify.com slash SDP. That's Shopify.com slash SDP. But it should be SDP. All right, so are we doing a card rip off the top here of one of these Steve Dangle cards, or are we going right to Conor Bedard? I would like to do a quick one.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Yeah, you want to do a quick one? Yeah, that's a fun idea. All right, I'm going to go. Quick one. All right, let's go. We got to move quick, though. Jesse said quick, so we better make it through fast. You're not doing it right.
Starting point is 00:03:50 There was one person who was very upset that we took too much time opening cards last one so i think it's pretty cool that steve's in a yeah i think it's yeah no well that person didn't uh matt stoney you know matt stoney is he's a competitive eater oh i got bubble wallace i don't bow oh yeah the nascar driver hell yeah yeah uh this is oh alicia lehman i know her soccer player oh yeah yeah switzerland uh swiss native yep um steffi graf tennis great yes you should can you this is this is a good pack i need you to take longer because it doesn't have steve in it it's a great pack and danny barlow hey mma fighter hey i like that i gotta go back uh i got freddie prince jr hell yeah hell yeah dude goodwin jimmy what the hell this is amazing it's great
Starting point is 00:04:40 what a great why is it's great freddie prince jr i got zeke thurston who is a uh bull rider a sorry a saddle bronc rider is his official title i got a young guns which is a rookie card of denny hamlin oh yeah wow denny hamlin the driver there you go you can have that adam wow um we got uh got an old guy uh julie wow that is that's that broke my italian meter giulielmo marconi adam you mean the guy who created that name i guess alexander marconi did the the record it was the record right but what the hell's his first name uh oh giulielmo i think giulielmo j-u-g-l-i-e-m-o i'm gonna go full jesse on this one and call him gabagool marconi he's from bologna oh hey betty lou sakura johnson okay now she did surfer oh sir
Starting point is 00:05:43 I thought I was going to get one of those weird inserts again That makes the card thick But I actually got a really nice card So I'll show you in a second First off, I got Harper Murray Who's a volleyball player And it's disrespectful of me But I do not know professional volleyball that well
Starting point is 00:05:55 So I've never heard of Harper I feel like that's okay I also I don't think anybody expects it Rose Zhang Who is a professional golfer And I got a little Adams History Corner Florence Nightingale
Starting point is 00:06:09 Do we know about Florence Nightingale? What do we know about Florence Nightingale? What do you guys know? No, no, don't Google it. Don't Google it. What do you know about her? You know the name. I know you know the name.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Yeah, it's some kind of medical thing. Yes. It's like a doctor. Nurse, but yes. Yeah, didn't we read her of insulin? No. That was Banting and Best in Canada. Something about war.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Yes. Rescued the English. The British. Yes. Not rescued. That's Laura Secord. The ice cream lady? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Laura Secord. Yeah, that's Lursey. But Jesse had the medical thing. You had the British thing. So something about Russia. You guys ready? Yes. You threw a bunch of tea in the harbor.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Yeah. No, no. Harbor. In the harbor. No. Florence Nightingale went over with the British and French expeditionary forces in the 1860s to fight in the Crimean War, where Britain and France tried to keep the Ottoman Empire alive because Russia was invading and trying to take Constantinople, now known as Istanbul.
Starting point is 00:07:10 and one of the things back then is people in the medical profession were looked on as kind of scary if they were around you you were basically dead right and what she did is she um became the first nurse where people were like okay maybe nurses aren't all that bad well she might save me and how did she do this well she introduced things like cleaning wounds and cleaning your hands before operating and and getting rid of uh your excrement and moving it away from the campsite good basic things like that literally personal hygiene and she saved countless more people and that war it's just all this on the back of the card yeah no no that's uh but it does say that's a long car uh during the crime war writing uh nightingale and her team of nurses came to the
Starting point is 00:07:54 aid of injured british soldiers greatly decreasing the mortality rate of the wounded in 1860 she established the nightingale school of nursing what's your last card uh last one is actually a rookie and autographed and uh danny barlow oh yeah i just got a regular danny barlow i got an autographed one holy crap i think that oh and it's numbered adam i think that might be very valuable oh yeah it's not is it numbered oh yeah on the front here oh i'm keeping it it's mine there's only 99 of these wow there's only 99 all right that's going up on ebay yeah i think can see that look it up look at well there's i don't know if there's any others that have been found but that's uh yeah number to 99 i will be 99 i will be looking at i will be speculating on
Starting point is 00:08:40 that market later should i open the other pack okay no no you gotta wait all right so jesse's doing that i'm uh should we talk about my stream yeah you're doing a card stream so this person is gonna be super mad about about this yeah the one guy who's like there's so many card rips at the beginning of the episode well guess what i'm gonna take forever tomorrow because tomorrow night 90 minutes of it 90 minutes ish i don't know uh i got four boxes of goodwins champions uh to open that's 60 packs great and we're hunting steve dangle we're chasing steve dangle that's cool and and we'll also just talk hockey q a general offseason stuff look ahead to next year whatever the whatever we want i talked to the boss and he said do whatever you want hi me what do you want
Starting point is 00:09:28 to talk about jesse do we have any bits while jesse looks this up oh yeah it's like four dollars 399 uh usd right now for is that that's a different card though assigned the danny barlow auto but um but it's not the young guns it's not the rookie one which yours might be more numbered rookie auto they're not going for a whole lot all right fine yeah i thought i'd hit the jackpot yeah anyway um listen conor bedard has re-signed in chicago five-year deal he makes 15 million bucks a season and you know what's it for what's interesting about this is you know how dom always has dom decision always has those cards that he puts out and he's like he hasn't actually hit the value of a 15 million dollar player yet and i think that's because of the
Starting point is 00:10:14 injuries he sustained rather than the play that he has on the ice when you see him play you see the way he started last year he it when he got when he went down with that injury it tanked my my fantasy team like he was that important um this guy's going to be worth every penny of this contract um and what i was surprised with is that chicago was like yeah cool because at the end of it i believe he walks right to ufa oh dear and oh uh and because remember he started right away right so he's already done his three years and that's an eight year period you're good to go um i don't know that chicago really had a choice in this instance it's sort of like what does connor want well and i mean also 15 is based on what leo carlson took a discount yeah yeah like
Starting point is 00:11:01 a heavy discount so yeah you're walking them but um if you're chicago you aim for five years from now to be a destination that he wants to re-sign in um you know he has built something special there by then is what you're hoping for and um if it's not that you have a year to trade them yeah don't be stupid i mean they've got a they've really got to get on their horse here and he was saying yesterday that like he thinks bo byram could be one of the best defensemen in the league and i'm like that's real nice that's a good teammate i really like bo byron absolutely like it's i had to say over and over and over again in our bo byron content from about a month ago like I I was really impressed with him in the uh Sabres Hab series which I streamed he's a very good
Starting point is 00:11:56 player but 12 and a half for a player who's never had to do something that he may very well be capable of but he's he's never had to do it right right he was behind Makar and Taves and you could argue okay well he's better than Taves all right well Taves played with Makar and Makar's they're they're both on the olympic team and then you go to buffalo and the the future is dalin in power yeah yeah so you couldn't justify imagine byram makes more than dalin dalin's contract is one of the sweethearts of the amazing deal um and uh you'd have three double digit defensemen you don't you just don't need that no no that's insane i think uh i i think the most interesting comment of the bedard press conference yesterday was when they asked him about patrick kane and
Starting point is 00:12:48 what it might be like to play with him and i feel like they're tipping their hands like he was like well imagine him coming back and playing whatever feels like patrick kane's gonna go to chicago again doesn't it he hasn't signed in detroit there was rumors about buffalo but it does feel like if bedard is saying that publicly i'm like sure feels like he's leaning that way yeah as long as he's okay with not winning like he's done his winning and if he wants to just go there and help all the young kids i think that's great well i mean it seems pretty obvious that he's there to basically fill the role that nick felino had and then once the season goes south which it will um trade him somewhere for i don't know you think he'd want to be moved again um like i could do
Starting point is 00:13:31 i think he likes winning the stanley cup i could see him just playing out the string i think and retiring i think jesse i think you're onto something there yeah i think he will uh i i don't think like maybe maybe you sell patrick kane you give him a two-year deal and you sell him on this year we're hoping to take a step next year we're hoping to make the playoffs right that that has to be chicago's plan whether they can execute or not is is one thing but that has to be the plan he's not that old yeah but he's he's he's been busted up and the fact that he's come back and played after the hip resurfacing and been effective amazing
Starting point is 00:14:05 that's I think the key with Patrick he's gonna be 38 in November he's not that old Steve oh damn he's pretty ancient oh shoot I had no idea oh god why do you feel old yes the list every year I check and see how many players
Starting point is 00:14:22 in the NHL are older than me and it gets shorter it gets shorter every year and I haven't looked it up for this year because I don't want to um no cory perry please never retire cory perry um listen like there's reason to chicago's almost got to get the narrative on the rails or maybe it's us like we got to get the narrative on the rails like they have players who aren't conor bedard like they have a lot of
Starting point is 00:14:51 really interesting young guys but at the end of the day win win games over a sustained period of time because remember i feel like they started last season pretty well like they were sort of in the hunt they were winning some games they weren't like a laughing stock they weren't in the basement and then well you know every time you check the dark go down well there's that but like every time you check the standings they're just further and further down and like it was the way they fell to the basement was kind of unceremonious yeah like they just ended up there I think because Bedard's likely to miss the first month or two with this shoulder. It should be four months total, I think they're saying.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Okay, so maybe just a month then. Maybe he's there in November, but still missing training camp. I know he's extremely talented, but that is very, very hard to do in today's NHL. You got to have a guy like Frank Nazer, who just signed that big extension, and Frondell, who they will not trade, refuse to give up on. Can't tear off. They're going to have to take a huge step here. And it's the first four to six weeks of the season.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Okay. or actually six weeks of the season is what he's aimed to miss. Can I give you back? And that's like 20 games? It's a lot. Can I give an unpopular opinion? Sure.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Because I think a lot of people after the winning that Chicago did in the last decade have really enjoyed their downfall. I'm getting kind of bored of them losing. I think the NHL is a more exciting place when Chicago's good, just like Detroit.
Starting point is 00:16:19 I'm bored of teams that lose all the time. Yeah. Which is a wild thing for Steve Dangle to say. I know. I'm pretty aware. At least they got themselves in a position where if they had won yeah it would have been a cool story you got to admit i got a lot more interesting when the leaf started losing in the playoffs you have to admit
Starting point is 00:16:37 so i agree that like chicago is one of the fun markets we have in this game and it sucks that they've been down for this last like five years ish since they're all their cup runs and everything like it's better when chicago's good i kind of wonder even if let's say like like a big step for any team in a year is to move up five to seven spots and we have to remember chicago finished 31st last year so if they're 22nd this year that's going to be a huge win and that's still probably i know it's the western conference but it's still probably not good enough to make the western conference um they might be in it till the end but you know that would be good enough if i'm kyle davidson i don't know that it would you not at this point with all the prospects you have in
Starting point is 00:17:15 your system would you not just blow every draft pick out the door at the trade deadline and buy buy buy and try to get guys who are you know you're like i look at for instance like the justin deal it didn't work out but the brandon carlo deal where you get a guy with two years left like this run and next year and you're trying to build something and hey we've got bedard here we've got spencer knight here we've got beau byram here you know you should you should extend get some some older pieces to go along with these younger guys via trade to sell them on chicago i think you're wrong for the right reasons okay um i wouldn't do trade deadline i do now yeah but who's trading now like like okay well you got your that is the get yourself a morgan riley
Starting point is 00:17:56 that's not bad you could get dakota joshua probably i like yeah morgan riley would be great on chicago i think he'd be amazing he'd be perfect for them or or uh any other living breathing human being yeah you know what i mean um you got to surround these guys um you also gotta have these guys it's funny the sharks you could tell we're running a bit of a nursery right and for like a couple years and that's over now like this summer was them going we're done here and these are two teams that are linked just because of how poorly things went and you know the hope of having a young crew and you know like everyone seems to agree the sharks have done better but like at the end of the day they didn't make it and they didn't they were in it
Starting point is 00:18:50 though they were in it but like they had their points i think were in the 70s yeah like are we talking about them as glowingly if they weren't in that brutal division where they shouldn't they shouldn't have had a chance to make it right um but yeah chicago they have to take a step here it's ridiculous they do they do i i don't know for me it it i want i actually want to see them do well and it you know it pains me to say that because i hated them for so long because they were so good well it's like when buffalo went hot this year we were all like oh that's nice yeah it was exciting fun that's not a leaf fans instinct to be like oh good for the sabers yeah but you know well i'm hoping this and the fact that new highmark stadium is done
Starting point is 00:19:36 leads them to renovate key bank the way they need to like you know being down there for the draft first off you know people in buffalo are the best like awesome people love being down there but like i think in in seeing as many arenas as i've seen and i haven't seen them all that arena is behind and it's a disservice to buffalo fans and like i don't think you shouldn't be walking down a hallway of a professional hockey arena at the nhl level with you know concrete cracks in the floor that have been kind of patched over and painted over like that it's it's limit it's like a little like i said to jesse i'm like they could just put some tiles down judge this place up no problem i could get in there right now and be like here just throw some
Starting point is 00:20:18 tiles down it'll look great it's due for a renovation for sure it needs it big time and and i think the fans know it and a gary said it and like that is where i'm hoping this goes for them um chicago has from what i understand a pretty good arena have you been in the chicago united i've never been no no i've heard it's pretty good that's one of the older ones though it is yeah it is maybe it's due for i don't know uh hayden hayden you've been yeah i've been i went with my dad a few years ago it's it the stuff they've done on the outside with like michael jordan statue and on the inside while they have the inside michael jordan statue on the outside they have the other statues for the other blackhawks it's a gorgeous gorgeous arena and
Starting point is 00:20:57 the concourse is not tiny which is my biggest gripe like you're not it's you don't feel like you're in a packed nightclub trying to get a beer like it's nice and wide open yeah it's a nice arena nice yeah well i think i think there's uh i think chicago being a team that takes a step forward this year could be exciting that's that's where i'm at like it was remember a couple years ago you got into a bunch of shit with montreal fans because it was the first it was the second season under marty saint louis i still don't understand and you said that one well they have to take a step forward whatever that step forward is it's just not good enough and they started that you're ice cold and montreal fans really got on you because they were like i don't know why they
Starting point is 00:21:38 were mad at you but well i was like they they need to take a step and they're like you know we don't the counter argument was like they could stay bad actually and i was like all right but then they did take a step and then they made the playoffs and now everything appears to be ahead of schedule and everyone seems pretty happy yeah with how things are going there so yeah chicago i think is that team by the way when you compare paying 15 million dollars to conor bedard and i know this isn't the same position but john marino just signed or is about to sign with utah okay okay and he is getting an eight-year contract and he's a defenseman that had 80 games last year four goals 32 assists good numbers yeah good numbers what do you think what do you think he makes
Starting point is 00:22:22 it's not outrageous what was this this morning it's it's it's coming down the pipe right now let's say seven jesse nine seven is close 6.75 right when you think about the cost of these and that's a right shot defenseman too so that that helps i don't mind the bedard thing i'm like every time somebody who's not bedard signs a contract i'm like yeah it feels pretty good well what the money says like what 15 million dollars says is i'm going to contend for heart trophies i'm going to contend for scoring titles i'm going to contend for rocket richards um i'm going to contend for championships that's the caliber of player that they believe he can be and like you should believe that like coming out of junior i was so bullish on this guy and i was comparing him to like
Starting point is 00:23:18 mcdavid because he tore that league apart he ripped the whl up he wasn't surrounded with the right people they they tore it down too much yeah they did they should have should have hung on to the britain cat should have hung on to hagel or like how about like like okay not to bring everything back to the leafs but when matthews was coming in here he was the third line center yeah it was bozak and cadre ahead of him yeah and even by the end of the year when it was obvious like okay well the first line is but he still wasn't great on defense yet and he was still figuring out the face-off circle like there was things to be done right and now here we are three years into bedard's career and he's like minus a hundred yeah barely i pretty close to literally
Starting point is 00:24:05 minus a hundred right still struggling with the with a whole bunch of different things you solidify the middle in chicago outside of him i i still think he's going to be a destroyer of world would be helpful if he stayed healthy uh connor mcmichael signed for the same aav a couple of days ago to avoid um uh 15 6.75 i read some stuff on badart oh yeah i wanted to well i was i was going to compare it to badar but sure go ahead go ahead well i just think okay so here's a guy at 6.75 million 14 goals last year every time you bring him up i have to say ajax pickering you're right connor he had 26 the year before but 14 goals that's what it gets you man and a non-premium well he's a center but he's non-premium shooting he's left
Starting point is 00:24:53 like it's he mostly played wings yeah he mostly played wing but he's listed as a center i thought he was a righty or shot right so shoots left what am i thinking yeah i don't know anyway Jesse, what do you have on Bedard? Yeah, because Mark Lazarus did kind of a deep dive on the negotiations. Just on the injury stuff, he said Bedard is expected to miss for six weeks. He had the option of rehabbing the shoulder and maybe avoiding surgery, but the risk was that after four to six weeks of rehab, he still might need surgery, forcing him to miss more time.
Starting point is 00:25:25 So he took the advice and he had surgery immediately. And they said it was a wise decision because the shoulder is unstable and it wouldn't have been fixed by rehab alone. so uh the initial choice didn't seem like it was actually there weird yeah shoulders are weird that way though there's a lot going on uh master negotiator kyle davidson when negotiations began in early june around the draft combine in buffalo kyle davidson the blackhawks asked for more term this extension will expire when bedard is 26 and buys only one year of unrestricted free agency oh advisor there he buys one year his next contract promises to be a monster on the other
Starting point is 00:26:02 side bedard at one point considered an even shorter deal to maximize his earning potential davidson successfully pled his case though i think it's not it's not the win that it might be pointed at like if you're davidson obviously you go to in those negotiations you're asking for eight years you want them for as long as possible getting five is a win but it's not you're still sitting there when this contract expires and saying, we're going to lose Conor Bedard at 25 years old to unrestricted free
Starting point is 00:26:35 agency if things don't turn around here quickly. And that's a terror that's like down the road for Chicago, but it's still there. And I think Bedard still wins in this situation where five years is really nice. It reminds me of all of the Matthews contracts.
Starting point is 00:26:51 I didn't know you said it, not me. That reminds you of that as well, where Matthews just been doing a couple years and not doing any of these giant extensions and it seems like this is the new way that the players are going to gain control in in their in their lives any star player that has signed an eight-year extension in the last few years and i'm thinking specifically the two that really stand out are dylan larkin and and lane hudson how much money have those guys left on the table it's great nathan mckinnon is underpaid again like the and i and you know it's funny because on ap which i'm not i'm not expecting these nhl players listen to ap but i do know nhl
Starting point is 00:27:27 people listen to it agent provocateur alan was saying this two years ago do not sign long-term deals if you're a star player sign them shorter because you can get multiple paydays because the cap's about to go up and these guys just i i don't i don't know what they're i mean i guess you you want the guaranteed money and you're probably happy but you think about like again bo byram's at 12 12 5 lane hudson would have been a restricted free agent this summer tell me he doesn't get that oh i still that contract is inexplicable dylan lark was a few years ago so i get it but even then he could have signed for five he'd be up in two and he'd be 32 33 years old look at um i remember hayden might remember this like right around 2012 the summer of 2012 we're heading into
Starting point is 00:28:15 a lockout and players were signing contracts like all right like we got to do this while the while the getting's good right tyler sagan signed a big deal and he was pretty underpaid for a while evander kane signed a really big deal a bunch of guys around that time signed really big deals and then you look back even to like um uh kel mccarr and his huge deal he's grossly underpaid right now charlie mcavoy signed around the same time adam fox signed around the same time like long-term deals are pro team these days maybe they didn't used to be i guess i guess they used to be these impossible to move monoliths but um because of where the cap was but if you sign a long-term deal at the i mean listen bedard had some sort of quip in there where he's like i'm
Starting point is 00:29:16 happy with the amount of money i make yeah yeah which is funny like and yeah because that that goes to the leo carlson discussion because they're asking him hey leo's making 18 do you want 18 he's like i'm happy with that but where he gained control is these years like he's coming up and he's going to have complete control of his career at the end of this contract and five years is going to fly by in chicago i think you know just like especially that time of his life or the early 20s and at the end of it like hopefully he's still happy with where the team's at because right now there's so many questions well like they've never provided him with a really good winger that's like what he needs for his career and like they need a they need to start going here you know and the
Starting point is 00:29:59 bo byram deal is obviously them trying to push this thing in that direction i'll tell you what they did provide him with jesse his jersey number in the signing bonus yeah the signing bonus is 9.8 yeah it really gets yay it doesn't emotionally move me all that it doesn't it doesn't bother me like that version of it doesn't bother me but like when the leafs were fighting for every dollar i'm like this isn't cute i need an extra 98 grand i don't think this is yeah cool or interesting and um anyway have fun losing you don't know what if mitch took a discount to get it down to add that ah what about that a seven thousand dollar discount had a boy hey that paid for travis boyd okay oh you don't know uh on the leo carlson offer uh connor did say it was never
Starting point is 00:30:50 well his agent done me and said it was never a consideration yeah connor made it clear even after the carlson offer sheet and before the offer sheet that he had no intention of signing an offer sheet and that he was happy in chicago believed in the organization believed in his teammates blah blah blah so they never wanted to sign an offer sheet yeah it's adam adam had a little groan there like i think a lot of players in these situations are complete dirty liars i think i believe him i 100 believe him yeah but if somebody offered 20 i think they did i think they did you think somebody did i have not heard that in 18 i think the offers were out there to conor bedard for just in that neighborhood and whatever more you know conor bedard could have
Starting point is 00:31:32 signed whatever offer sheet he wanted with any team that was capable of signing it and he chose not to it's i find that funny because it's hard to envisage a worse situation for conor bedard in the first three years of his career so the fact that he's this loyal and he believes this much my question is always how long is that going to last i think davidson's on the clock he's got 24 months to figure this out and then at a certain point we're going to start to hear grumblings like it's nice that he's saying that it's nice that that's being said publicly um and maybe it's true maybe it is true i don't believe it but maybe it's true i think how can you how many teams in the league if those offers were out there for him and i hope they were um how many teams could he go to
Starting point is 00:32:15 and have a worse time one not a lot not a lot that's attractive it's not no one's gonna want to hear this but a lot of the groundwork for the work that the blackhawks need to do has already been done it's just about patience with these kids it's so frustrating reaching these kids these kids yeah now well it's also trust in davidson to build the pieces around the yes yes i don't think i don't i don't know if a lot of people have that and those feelings are valid yeah i'd like and like building a team you know we've done a lot of talking about steve eiseman and how stuff went bad in detroit but which is weird because he basically built the lightning okay but he didn't get them across the finish line though that was julian brisebois and what
Starting point is 00:33:04 did julian brisebois do to help get him across the line well he grossly overpaid for two third liners it won them back-to-back cups right it sometimes it takes more than one pair of eyes it takes more than one regime to win like the florida panthers aren't exclusively bill zito players he didn't draft alex parkov right you need you need more than one set of eyes i i want to uh compare that with the guy that is also a free agent center that nobody's really talking about is adam fantilli restricted free agent guy no one's talking about and there were rumors yesterday from unverified sources that a contract is coming right and you expect that it is he's not off first sheet eligible is he is he a 10c i have to i don't know i'm gonna look it up right now i
Starting point is 00:33:51 can't remember there was a i know cutter goche is not eligible um is he not no well i know cutter's not he's a 10c but or what are they go 10 to ac or whatever they call it you got to think someone would have swooped in and tried it yeah well i was i was i was a bit surprised philly didn't try it with bedard after doing it with go to he has to accept it yeah let's say it like but but like surely that would have got out right there was they had tried it there were seven teams or seven or eight teams that wanted to offer sheet um uh leo carlson so if seven or eight teams are looking in that neighborhood of Leo Carlson it's a fair assumption that there are that many or ish teams looking in that ballpark of Connor Bedard because you'd be going down that
Starting point is 00:34:39 list of guys who can make in that neighborhood because you have the assets to do that and why not call Don Meehan I guess the so there's there's been all this stuff about like oh Danny Breer has a target or whatever what are the ducks gonna do you can't do anything you have no cap space you're screwed the blackhawks can't right so maybe that's the hesitance sometimes life throws your curveballs and you don't have time to get to them and that's where task rabbit comes in and i think you should check this out because here's the deal one of the things one of the weird quirks about my condo building is that they use my floor to repel down and clean all the windows but they never clean my windows oh and their way around on that is like well it's a patio window you can do
Starting point is 00:35:22 that yourself and i'm like well hang on a second what if i don't want to i don't have the stuff because you gotta have that scraper thing and the and the washer thing chemicals you gotta have the right chemicals see what i'm saying that's why i used task rabbit and i employed a tasker here's the thing task rabbit connects you with taskers in your area for furniture assembly home repairs lawn maintenance mounting window cleaning all that stuff here's the deal 3.4 million pieces of furniture have been assembled 700 000 home repairs 1.5 million moves and counting go ahead and get ahead of your to-do list 15 off your first task at taskrabbit.ca or on the task rabbit app using the promo code dangle taskers across canada book up fast especially for same day tasks
Starting point is 00:36:04 get 15 off your first task right now with the promo code dangle at taskrabbit.ca or the task rabbit app you should download that taskrabbit.ca code dangle two in five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research together we can carry the fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca so adam fantilli is offer sheet eligible oh yeah and let's have that deal drop today and that is from the nhl.com so i trust them uh and i you know that's
Starting point is 00:36:56 a that's a okay so he had 59 points if carlson which is an inflated number i grant you had 67 points 18 million but dard i actually don't know how how many points he had last year but it was lower than his points per game were pretty high right right what does a guy like Fantilli get yeah 75 points in 69 games for Bedard would you do 12 I think the Blue Jackets would do 12 though yeah I think you just do whatever yeah and he's also he always scores a hat trick when he comes to Toronto yes can I just say if you're a hockey fan when it comes to these cap hit conversations and you feel lost you are not alone I don't know what anyone's worth anymore yeah that's the fun part about this offseason pretty much if i don't see a double
Starting point is 00:37:42 digit number you could assign brandon duane for nine million bucks i'd be like that's all right uh is jet greaves worth seven and a half that's a lot that is what he filed at uh now remember posturing yeah yeah it's our it's arbitrary yeah yeah but not reality the team filed at 2.8 of course they did that's hilarious so it's and then it lands in the at all yeah that's one of the biggest gaps i've ever heard 908 save percentage in 55 games last year that's really good he was really he was really good last year when the blue jackets were good that's a good goal 26 19 and 9 for the blue jackets now we were just talking about the black hawks what's spencer knight's deal uh it's like 6.7 that's a good deal yeah because there's a
Starting point is 00:38:27 goalie who yeah but when he signed it he hadn't really done much no and he had a good year last year in chicago and i think the thing about it the the reason it was is it's short there's only two more years left oh i don't think it's a long deal from what i remember i thought it was a three-year deal okay so split the difference between what greaves is asking for and for your deal for your deal sorry it's kicks in this year and it's 5.8 million okay i mean which looks really good now amazing but at the time he signed it we were like what are you thinking yep hey here's a fun one arvid soderblom makes 2.75 arvid soderblom it doesn't matter okay i guess like like they have so much cap space so they jet greaves and arvid arvid soderblom worth about
Starting point is 00:39:09 the same they've been able to over like grossly overpay some players and it doesn't matter it doesn't matter um so wait okay greaves wants what 7.8 or 7.5 he doesn't want that number that's the number he's filing in arbitration to try and get the number he actually wants yeah is how it should be frank so split the difference we're talking five something which is a little it's a little high for a guy whose first year as a star in the nhl was this season right there's no past history of greaves being this amazing goalie he had one good season that's why i'm kind of looking at night yeah right so high fives if he comes in at high fives like on a shorter term deal like a three or something like that yeah he's not gonna i don't think it'd be a long term and arbitration
Starting point is 00:39:56 apparently don waddell said he wants a long-term extension oh yeah the quote was uh our goal our whole goal is trying to get an extension a multi-year extension if not we'll get to arbitration and get a deal but what that would be expensive then i it can't be where spencer knight is then because you got to pay him for the years you're expecting him to be great so here's here's the brain adjustment and i'm just i'm using this as an example because it's one i remember some of the minutiae of remember when dubas refused to trade zack hyman to the oilers for less yeah i think they were offering a seventh and toronto wanted a fifth yes now here's no no no it was um or is it toronto wanted a third the oilers offered a sixth dubas wanted a second and i'm here to tell
Starting point is 00:40:42 you the oiler should have just paid it because and i know as a leaf i agree i think you're right i think you're right if i'm not mistaken the difference on cap hit was i think it was 5.1 versus 5.4 something like that it would have saved them something like a quarter million dollars a year on the cap which they needed every dollar they needed they should have just paid it yep would they've spent it correctly though right but that knocked the cap hit down the long term the extra term knocked it down it doesn't work that way anymore it goes way up the other way so like if i'm the blue jackets or sorry if i'm jack greaves and you're offering or you're asking for an eight-year deal out of me i i think seven point whatever is actually
Starting point is 00:41:40 you pretty if he if for the rest of his career he is roughly what he was this past season yeah yeah he would that would be a steal for them yeah yeah and the your math makes sense because the cap would go up and he would be making more money so signing that long-term deal is just flattening what he's gonna make in terms of the ceiling so if you want longer term it's got to be more money it is backwards now yeah the hard thing for me as a hockey fan with gray in his beard is i have a hard time imagining the nhl as this league of perpetual prosperity right so but revenues have never been stronger for the nhl they've never been stronger and i hope they stay that way oh yeah you know what i mean because like they're going up they're going up they're going up and like i don't
Starting point is 00:42:27 think like even we were too young for the 0405 lockout like they took ever i don't think people realize or maybe you forgot they took what players made and they went okay we're cutting a quarter off that right now anyway get out there have fun right so if you made five all right you make oh i should have picked an easier number you pick you make four you make three million bucks yeah and 25 more percent of that's going to escrow yeah yeah and also we're trading your friend because we can't afford them anymore yeah right that was ugly it was real ugly like they just took your shit yep and they just took it why did they ever sign that what i just i hope we never get back to that like i got i hope we're not sitting here in a few years and it's you know
Starting point is 00:43:22 backup goalies make six million dollars and they're like yeah we can't do that anymore and we're gonna have a really ugly lockout well what do you they're not gonna do that it's not happening They're not going to do that? They've had three in our lifetime, Adam. The owners are making so much money. In comparison. I hope so. With the way the NHL is trending and the other leagues,
Starting point is 00:43:39 like the NBA, they have the very similar system where they withhold the player contracts and then they divide it up with the escrow. And their payments at the end of this season, or at least the end of their accounting, was that they were only giving back, I think it was 4% of the 10% that they withheld from the players. Is this why all of them are doing podcasts right now?
Starting point is 00:44:01 No, I think they're making enough money. But the NHL, on the other hand, is giving like 20% bonus payments to the players. Adam, you might know the numbers a little better than I do because you've talked to Alan about this. But they're giving – they have to cut giant checks to these players on top of their salaries because the NHL is making so money that these guys who are like, hey, I made $10 million this year, they're actually making like $14 because they're just getting checks. like i'm not interested in hearing about the state that you play in this tax situation oh my god well guys and it's guys that might not be in the league anymore too right like you might have been on a million dollar deal two years ago the the nhl accounting is always two to three years behind where it actually is which is why the cap is actually always under what it should be and uh
Starting point is 00:44:48 there are guys who are like retired now who are going to be cut checks for the next couple of years by the nhl because they were contracted at that time i think it's as high as 20 jesse I think it's pretty high. So if you make a million bucks, that's 200 grand that they just write you back. Because we made that much money and we have to split the revenues 50-50. So here's the extra money that's available so we share the revenues, which is incredible. And the NBA players, I just had the number here, they are taking a 5.5% haircut on their negotiated salary. And they all make $75 a year.
Starting point is 00:45:22 Yeah, they make a minimum wage. but the number that's on paper in your contract you got to subtract 5.5 percent of that because nba revenues are so flat right now because of the meteorite steel then the way that's been going for them and also you got to buy a house and also you got to buy a car okay and like you got to eat food sorry what i'm goofing on right now is a bunch of nba players dram on green have gone on podcasts and cried poor and no one is interested yeah no nobody cares i think the the nhl is in a really good place and i hope it continues and there doesn't seem to be anything that will slow it down unless the meteorites deals in the states go completely sideways but even then the nhl is such
Starting point is 00:46:04 a gate-driven league that i think they're fine and they're gaining revenue in other ways that i think this thing is sustainable for at least the maybe not the 20 you're getting a new check but at least it's going to be sustainable for at least a decade i think so i think so the nhl is a great place and remember billionaires are pouring their money into like like think about So from what I've understood, even OHL franchises are now worth in the $30 to $50 million on average. OHL. And then you've got to buy an OHL franchise. So that reduces your pay right there.
Starting point is 00:46:36 It just goes to show you how much money is being dumped into your billionaire. Oh, in hockey. In hockey, into sports. I would love to own an OHL team. They'd be freaking sick. You think Larry Tannenbaum's a stupid man? Not really, no. dumped out of maple leaf sports and entertainment when they couldn't get the toronto temple off the
Starting point is 00:46:52 ground because ed rogers didn't want to do another unprofitable franchise because he's focused on the year-to-year whereas larry's like i'm 80 i'm old enough to know that it's it's actually asset value that matters right and he bought the temple franchise and i bet it's doubled in value since he bought it especially with the the kaitlyn clark and the tv deal yeah yeah like like it's that is what it's about right so these guys you know they'll claim like there's going to be some teams and cj's been talking about this that are like well we won't spend to the cap they're already bitching about it shut up when it gets up to 130 million and some prominent teams but what is funny about that is they're saying that now and they're completely full of shit because these billionaires
Starting point is 00:47:30 all run in the same circle and when one of them wins you imagine how fucking annoyed you'd be that tom dundon won a cup that fucking guy like you gotta tom dundon i don't think is one of the guys like i'm sure he's a fun time but i think he probably grades on people and i think they're probably like that guy no way i'm calling my gm now we need to win the cup we need to take this back they're gonna take us they're gonna take the wrong lessons from tom dundon winning the cup that team was 12 million under the cap we need to be smarter anybody yeah yeah you're right they didn't spend any money and neither are we you're right we're spending that's what we're doing we're spending too much yeah that's we need to shed 12 mil right now i think all these teams
Starting point is 00:48:13 that are complaining like when you see bill foley spending to the cap when you see ed rogers spending the cap you'll see the molson family spending to the cap um even uh even the rangers uh i can't the dolan family are absolutely spending to the cap when you see all these guys doing that some of these other markets are gonna be like fine if i have to well the lightning do it i i suspect the moment the Blackhawks show any promise they'll spend to the Cavs. Yeah. I think they've tried. I just don't think anybody wants to come there right now. And it's because... That'll change.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Yeah, of course it will. Chicago's a great place. That'll change. It's just they need to start winning. Yeah. And if you're a UFA, you're not spending your UFA years doing that, hopefully. That's what you're thinking. Yeah. One of the main reasons I'm really bullish on the NHL's growth over the next decade is just they're only in 25
Starting point is 00:48:59 U.S. markets. Yeah. The NBA's in 31. want and there's so much room to grow for the nhl still to put a team in houston like they're talking about or wherever in the states they want to go to and there's just more growth for hockey that there is in in these other leagues and i think it's going to be good when i explain i know a lot of people don't like expansion but i think it's gonna be good for the league um to grow the game more and places like california where hockey is booming because of the money there and tennessee sport and yeah there's so many places where hockey is just growing i also have news um so
Starting point is 00:49:33 i barely remember the early 90s when uh at the very beginning there were 21 teams now there are 32 the hockey is not worse no it's not better it's not you go back and watch those games it is uh just it is decidedly better it is not worse um we can expansion the idea that expansion waters down the product is grossly exaggerated well i also think steve just so sorry to interrupt it's it's people who don't watch any other sports yeah look at look at soccer i know it's the universal game everybody grows up playing it but sorry uh are there any of the leagues lacking for super you can find enough people to play the game yeah it's what do you mean away by this there's so many soccer leagues the french league has all world superstars epl
Starting point is 00:50:25 all world superstars the spanish the italian league's falling off a little bit well buddhist league is on the way on the rise though explain explaining uh welcome to rexham okay so they're in the fifth division let me stop you there there's five divisions of paid professional soccer yeah but the thing that blows my mind about those divisions like they exist within a country yes yes like imagine canada just had its own league it would be 40 million people were the size of the state of california like we're not very big but imagine we had just 32 team league and then another division and then another division like if it's to be insane that'd be nuts well we we have the ahl and the echl a little different though you can't move a franchise up
Starting point is 00:51:07 right uh but i think i think that's that's where like i remember is it damien cox wrote a book about like how 21 teams was the nhl's peak i'm like no damien that was your life peak read my new book when you had like when people say that stuff it's like you you got to take into account the place in their life they were at like oh music was better when i was a kid is that true or were you just less busy and more able to listen to new music and more open to it is that true or did did did life kind of leave you behind like it does with everybody i mean and i think that's that's that's i i i can't for the life of me with all the talent we have coming out of a junior system right now and all these kids watching youtube highlight videos and doing crazy shit
Starting point is 00:51:51 with their skates and their sticks and the way they handle buddy we're fine for star power fine what everyone leaves behind about that era and what everyone leaves behind about like gretzky and lemieux is the team at the other end of the ice losing 12-2 right and i don't know if their fans were all that stoked about it right like it's there's a lot of parody now i don't know if like it's some of it's artificial right like a lot of the standings are artificial yeah but like you have superstars just demolishing mailmen and like i hate to say that about those those people they played in the national hockey league but like go back and watch like gretzky and lemieux highlights from the 80s are genuinely laugh out loud funny yeah it's it's
Starting point is 00:52:46 a little bit like you put the benny hill soundtrack behind it and let him go bobby or even watch bobby or highlights all all the all those pictures of michael jordan basically dunking on congressman like some guy with a full head of white gray hair yeah fellas i like hockey when the goaltenders started to learn how you can go down on the ice and stop a shot yeah i the highlights of a goalie just standing straight up and a puck like sliding along the ice and under them jesse it's like what is the sport there was uh well because they didn't want to get their pads wet because they get heavy yeah but because that's the that's the other thing nhl goaltenders used to complain by the third period their pat they didn't have three sets of pads that they could change because the
Starting point is 00:53:30 ice wouldn't melt because they had to cut it in ring shape and bring it down the mountain like frigging frozen let it go and like dude and this isn't to take shots at him but imagine a guy like darren pang making the nhl today five nine goaltender dude six foot two goaltenders are short yeah these days think about um who's the other guy uh i just had it on the tip of my tongue another famous short goalie like that just wouldn't happen darren pang no matter what position he played five nine good luck kelly rudy kelly's kelly's a shorter goal shorter goalie there's other guys it doesn't matter we don't need to get too into it but my point is different sport different time anybody that tells me there isn't enough talent and i alan has said this on
Starting point is 00:54:15 on agent provocateur and i think this will bother people to no end he said a european league's coming like a european nhl division is coming and then how would that work so essentially you would have the major cities in europe you would have like your london your paris your stockholm your helsinki or you know maybe brussels i don't know um definitely something in germany maybe you got six to eight teams there and what would happen is they would have to just amend the schedule so maybe like some years you don't necessarily play them in europe they come and play you on your division and then the next year you go play them like because remember division play has been pared down right now you're playing each other three or four times a year where it used to
Starting point is 00:55:00 be six and with more teams that's going to lessen and a lot of times like oh well with the 84 game schedule i get to go play in anaheim if i'm toronto and then anaheim comes here well that doesn't work that way in other leagues the mlb they don't go do home and homes every year they sometimes they never play each other um uh and nfl same thing that will be what happens it's like you play them once and it might be this year i'm playing toronto and stockholm we're playing it in toronto and then next year they're playing in stockholm i mean the california road trip like a flight from here to california is long like five five and a half hours yeah uh flight to britain seven like it's it's not an enormous difference it's enormous if you're in california
Starting point is 00:55:45 yeah but yeah they would have to make concession but that's that's the plan that's the long-term The MLB thing has changed. All teams play each other now. Oh, they do? Yeah. Okay, it didn't always then. Am I right? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:55 For the first 150 years of baseball, they didn't. Right. Okay, so I didn't know that they changed that. But the point is, like, that used to be on our TV every morning. Oh, the Jays play the Reds for the first time in four years? Yeah. What? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:07 Inter-league play used to be a huge thing where the leagues were separate. Ken Griffey Jr. is coming to Toronto? Yeah. Wow. Once in a decade. They jacked the prices up to eight bucks? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:18 I don't know. My thing is, like, I don't know, man. like there's always going to be more sports talent out there and uh no are they all going to be connor mcdavid no but there's one connor mcdavid yeah nba starting nba europe in fall of 2027 it's gonna be 16 team league yeah what will they play the nba teams uh no so i think it's starting as like a separate league okay but it's uh they're trying to create their own because there are like european teams uh leagues over there right and well followed ones too yeah totally but they're trying to make their own there so it's supposed to start in february fall of 2027 it's gonna be
Starting point is 00:56:50 12 permanent teams and then four qualifier teams so they're trying to do some sort of format there and i assume one day like it'll merge with the nba and they'll have some sort of travel and play those teams but we're gonna see a test of it and i assume the nhl will try if that works though maybe they'll start their own and i think the nfl did this years ago remember kurt warner was nfl europe before he was the rams quarterback um it was arena football league too right was the arena yeah yeah what a career that guy had but he got plucked from like there's a movie on him a disney movie is there yeah yeah kurt warren he got plucked from like a grocery store oh i gotta check that out i've not seen he's just tossing lemons like uh but whoa a scout was in there that's crazy
Starting point is 00:57:31 look at the spin on that no there was one about an mlb pitcher too who was like a um he ended up on the raise but he was like angels in the outfit no no but he was a high school teacher and he was like teaching kids to pitch and he's throwing like a hundred miles an hour like what and then he went to professionally he went to race camp and he made the team like it's it's yeah that's cool i wish that happened in hockey man i don't i just don't think i don't think it's as easy like soccer i can see it basketball i can see it you can't do it you have to be on the ice all the time in hockey like you do and it's expensive the nfl draft i'm just like what do you mean that guy hasn't played football before yeah these other sports they have specialized positions so you
Starting point is 00:58:16 can get the australian league rugby guy who just comes in as a great kicker yeah he would never get have these specialized places this guy has all the tools to be an electrician you're he's never done it but you're hired right it's just a natural yeah like you know what you look he's got he's got the steady hands of a brain surgeon you know what get in there scrub up and get in there right you're a first round pick in the nfl you've never played football that's insane yeah i couldn't do that but i think i think basketball is a size thing like i can see somebody walking if somebody's seven feet tall like and you're not asking them to learn to dribble then you're doing yourself a disservice right but even hockey hockey is that it's size and hand eye and you have
Starting point is 00:58:58 to be able to afford ice and the equipment and you have to have the time like you can go a walk on any pickup basketball or pickup soccer league you want you can't do that in hockey what if adam sandlers they're scouting that's a good question you know and you're out there playing in your in your boots and just kicking everyone's ass in spain yeah it's a movie good i think the closest thing we got right now is jackson cover my favorite story yes yeah draft where he grew up playing roller hockey all his life and didn't actually play ice hockey i think it was 15 13 until he was a teenager which is unheard of in the world of hockey um until he came to canada and started playing ice hockey so um that's a cool story and i think that's the closest we'll get
Starting point is 00:59:39 only the the first player i thought of with jackson cover and no one is going to remember this player is um cody castro and justin fisher would remember this he never heard the name he played in the whl um i interviewed him when i was doing rbc junior hockey magazine with gino retta because he didn't play ice hockey until he was 13. If I'm not mistaken, he was just playing roller hockey in California and he made the dub and he came on our, our student radio show to basically give his pitch.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Here's why I should be drafted. I have no idea if that clips anywhere, but, uh, he didn't get drafted. This kid went in the first round. that's so wild it shows how incredible he is yeah and that's that's the thing like the the skill is there clearly that he can go i think it's 30 second overall to ottawa like oh he was drafted
Starting point is 01:00:40 by the sense yeah and certain people are bad yeah he's trash yeah now he's your favorite story terrible uh boss what do you think he asked for a trade-out yeah uh he's starting a podcast any day now that's right yeah with his brother all my teammates are bad yeah also here's my dad here's my dad but i can't i'm afraid to tell him to stop please don't ask me about me publicly saying my teammates are bad adam when's our live watch along of american underdog the biographical story about kurt warner we should we should do that we should do that american under that is such a oh you don't have it oh that is such as that's such a story uh the that's such an american named story american underdog isn't isn't chris chelios's book like chris chelios made in america or something like
Starting point is 01:01:30 in america what is okay what is chris chelios's book called he's such a beauty yeah chris chelios made in america were you still the oj dog the 30 for 30 it's called oj simpson made in america is it not what came first i wonder yeah that was 2016 or something who had it first oj made and when did his book come out chris chelios uh book review uh give me the date oh christopher well i think it came out in 2019 2020 but i could be wrong i'm looking at the yeah oj made america came out january 2016 oh and sundance well i guess may 2016 was released uh the 30 for 30 doc but who did it better yeah who had the better made in america november 1st 2014 wow so oj the the 30 30 n espn doc stole that name from chris chelios how dare they
Starting point is 01:02:35 he should sue them by the way chelios seems like a really funny guy okay were you still there at the easter seals thing so we had him on our team i think it was two years ago okay and And Ron McLean and Eric Lindros were on stage just telling stories, Q&A. Kibitzing. Yeah. And one of them just mentioned Gary Bettman. And I hear from beside me, boo. And it was Chris Chelios.
Starting point is 01:02:58 Oh, sick. Yeah. Just booing in front of the entire, I almost said class, the entire room. That reminds me, did I ever tell you when Jesse and I went to Buffalo for the second through seventh rounds, there was a Sabres fan who every time a trade alert was announced and it was only draft picks. Because remember, they had that big... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:18 He would be like... And there was no players involved. He'd be like, boo, boring. Good for him. Like yelling at him audibly. Good for him. It was great. It was great.

Kirby Dock, who they acquired at the draft in Montreal in 2022. And a guy that, you know, you can understand why they took a chance on this guy.
Starting point is 01:04:36 This is a third overall pick from the Blackhawks. He's now 25, but he was a six foot four, 221 pound center who shoots right. i mean how do you not take a chance on a guy like that the problem is the injuries and last year 37 games 15 total points and they need him to at least compete with oliver kapanen for that second imagine how much different that series looks against buffalo or sorry not buffalo any of the series look if kapanen who had a really tough playoff is not in that spot and doc on the other hand was very good right they're learning so much about their team um like you need risers
Starting point is 01:05:14 in in the playoffs and doc felt like a riser josh anderson the reason you tolerate josh anderson and his cap hit and how bad he is in the regular season is you know every playoff series he's going to cost you one game win two and be effective in the others yeah that's basically what he did so so they signed doc to a one year he is his qualifying offers four million but they or but he was going to arbitration and they they settled at one year uh 3.75 i think it was or 3.6 so he paid 400 000 to not go to arbitration you need i think you need docket center like i think i think he's got a push cap in a little bit um i think like i know he played and he played 19 healthy games and i get that i think you need your six foot four right shooting guy to play center don't
Starting point is 01:06:03 you they're kind of getting to a point where are they going to trade one of these young players right because if if he doesn't emerge as the clear-cut guy and if Kapanen doesn't emerge as the clear-cut guy you have to then go out and get the clear-cut guy it's not going to be oh yeah we're trading draft picks and the the new guy can just play with those guys well and to know and Evans and even Newhook can solidify their bottom six you need a second line center or a another one c that's your bottom nine though right because dino center new hook center and friggin uh evans is center yeah but new hook plays a lot of wing doesn't he he does but like this is this is the montreal canadians problem what we're talking about right here is up the middle outside of
Starting point is 01:06:49 suzuki obviously who's incredible um they're they lack a little zhuzh right like evans is a decent he's very he's a good player but he's a lower lineup guy and that's why you have him signed to that you shouldn't be playing with Ivan Demidov right right is that mean is that unfair but I think if you have a player that's only played 37 games for you in the regular season you can't trust them in big center moments in the playoffs like Doc's got us here's the thing and it's really unfair he's got to stay healthy yes yeah that's been the whole knock on his career i think a lot of people think the talent is there but the acl surgery he had early on like the torn ligament in his knee like that's really tough and then this past season can't stay healthy because
Starting point is 01:07:32 of a couple uh lower body injuries too like he's really suffered through it and you're getting to a point where you're sitting there and you're saying can we trust this guy to be in our lineup every day because we can't we haven't been able to since we've acquired him and then that's why you can only do this one year deal and see how it goes again this time and then there are unfortunately walking him to ufa where it's just this one year and then next year he could walk so if he has a great season it's going to cost you a lot but if he doesn't it's probably time to move on from that player because you know what he is yeah he's not a shut up thing i don't think he has the really the talent to be like a bottom six forward i don't think that's why you have
Starting point is 01:08:08 kirby doc you have him for top want him to be in your top six somewhere and he just needs to become that player in some regard and he hasn't proven it yet in his career and that might be because of all the injuries well and and you got like i'm just looking at their lineup right now like you have a guy like hage who's pretty much ready to come in it seems like you would be able to do like something like a captain in one of your wingers let's say bull duke because he's still kind of young and exciting and a pick for center of consequence yeah because kirby doc can't be your cross your fingers hope he's a second line center in his career now going forward like that can't be your answer he's the third overall pick but like it's been a while yeah they still it has
Starting point is 01:08:52 been a long while right 25 now yeah come on like so it needs to be so they didn't go out and address their second line center need which is very clear and has been obvious for like a season and a half now so hopefully they go out and they do that by the time next playoffs roll around and doc might be the asset that they use to get that considering that it's just a one-year deal and you just move about the deadline for that piece I think also the fact that Montreal went as far as they did in the playoffs will help with the you know people will come to Canada if they're not already on a Canadian team but they want to be winning and imagine listen there's there's playing in Montreal and then there's winning in Montreal winning in Montreal is like holy shit that's amazing
Starting point is 01:09:33 I think you know if you were to redo this season a guy like Vinny Trocek I'm not sure if he ever denied a trade to Montreal but I thought there was some interest there there was some connections made if it was that he would not wave i wonder you know if you could have told him the trade deadline yeah but they're going to the car that's final day uh he'd probably be like okay i'll give that a shot right um i think now they're gonna have a lot easier time having guys either not have them on the list at all or wave yeah see we're good yeah yeah no what like i why would you have montreal on your list oh you show yeah it's the best i don't know like just the way things are are going the way things are trending why not a bad contract on that team not one no
Starting point is 01:10:16 it's well especially with gallagher and anderson or is anderson one more year yeah like none that you're none that really is that even hurting you though 5.5 really no josh and he's a ufa at the end of this season okay and for like what he does for you in the playoffs like yeah and he's a vibes guy there's so much more free money with this team because they didn't go out and spend a bunch and they lost patrick linea which was taking up just such a giant portion of their cap monta eventually gonna come off yeah he's ufa he's gonna need new contracts so they gotta save some of this money for obviously uh the guys that need it but they've locked up so much of their core for a long term that they won't need it for quite a while especially like hudson and suzuki are still
Starting point is 01:10:56 signed for multiple years three plus levkoski's still six years left like there's so much time what was the deal dobish just signed dobish is uh i'll click it hold on they have his current cap it it's 5.3 but it doesn't kick in until next season get out of here this upcoming season one after like and we were just talking about jet greaves what the well and they have jacob fowler who might even be better yeah like that's the part that's the part for me i'm like shit he could be the backup at 5.3 that's why i like spending using doc as an asset i think would be really valuable to go out and spend the cap space that you have for at least this season on if it's a rental so be it and you go chase when what you've started last year and continue
Starting point is 01:11:40 and try and build on it and win a stanley cup because you never know when your window's going to close no you don't you're trying to tell me that's not the gm of the year oh right there like all the get out of here yeah year in year out i think montreal should be going for it because you never know what could happen with these players so just go go chase it i want to talk quickly since you mentioned patrick line eight like okay i know he's gonna sign somewhere and i know it's probably gonna be bonus laden because he has the the games played injury thing that you yeah you can sign a bonus laden deal he's one of the few guys who might not actually hit it what do you mean like might not hit the bonus oh yeah maybe i don't know um
Starting point is 01:12:16 when you're picking a guy like that up where does he fit because unless you're pulling a Washington Capitals with Ovi where he's sort of a specialized shooter the Patrick Laine I saw play his final games in Montreal a season and a half ago in the playoffs against Washington was unusable and I know he's he had the knee injury that year and then he came back and scored a bunch of power play goals in January and everybody's all excited about it but like but then he reverts back to Patrick Laine he's one of the streakiest players of our lifetime where like you can count on like one season or sorry one week per season where he is the greatest goal scorer in the sport and that's it that's it you should go back oh my god there was
Starting point is 01:13:05 one year where he literally was that if you broke down his season like month by month by month guy guy guy ovechkin guy guy guy like that was his season so what kind of team can absorb a guy like that and give him the minutes he's gonna need to actually be effective because it's it's one thing to sign a guy and just have a guy who can play some hockey but he really can't play a bottom six role so if you are dressing him you're probably dressing him in the bottom six and using him on offensive zones only and play and power play and that's it so how many teams can manage a player like that you can do that in the regular season i don't think you can do that in the playoffs calgary hey yeah you know what i'm looking at the flames roster uh earlier this
Starting point is 01:13:56 week i'm like that's there's not a lot of goals in that roster calgary vancouver million dollars plus yeah plus bonuses bonuses why does he get bonuses because it's if he's found money then you give it to him yeah and you don't care how about you get a million dollars because you like the last two years you stink well he hasn't played hockey like last year you only got into five games yeah maybe he's played hockey part of that is injury and part of that is you stink that is that bad well last year it's injury yes and they didn't need him because they had the you know you're right in that like it is they montreal probably because he said at the end of it he probably could have been activated but they chose not to use me um and that they helped him
Starting point is 01:14:41 out by doing that with the performance bonuses that he's now qualified for but he's not good enough to force his way back into the lineup so it is because yeah he's not good he's one of the craziest defensive liabilities i've ever watched like you know but in a specialized role if he's motivated you just don't know what version of patrick line is showing up to work i would have liked the leafs to take a chance on this this year yeah why not they have a lot of defensive guys so i guess they could maybe it's the fact that they're still hanging on to probably 10 million and maybe maybe 7 million in cap and riley uh that they are wanting to move but i just think like if it doesn't work out you could wave line a and it costs you nothing but money on something
Starting point is 01:15:23 that might be found offense i could see him you think he's doing a pto i don't oh interesting yeah maybe but if nobody wants him he has to do a pto it's quite a quite a fall well but he could be one of those weird players who's like okay we're signing you to a pto he has a good preseason and it's like all right here's two million dollars here's the problem the preseason is it's a lie for example with the Leafs it's a lie that the preseason is four games long no it is not it is two yeah because two of the games happen at the same time yes yeah twice like it is two games long how do you prove to a team in two games I'm him I don't think you do I think you got to have a team that that believes that you can take off and here's one team that that could
Starting point is 01:16:18 and they have depth on the wings but could use more goal scoring fifth last in goals for seattle hell yeah hell yeah low risk high reward we need hey we finished with 224 goals last year the best team finished with 298 let's use the only word that matter five goals let's use the only word that matters uh desperate they are desperate well do i have the guy for you yeah flames least chicago two vancouver three la four uh la is an interesting one too because it's a veteran room seattle five new jersey six i think jersey will be up this year islanders seven jets eight i don't think there's a reunion coming there hey uh blues nine and rangers 10 do you do you need someone who is going to score seven goals over five games and then seven goals over
Starting point is 01:17:13 the next 79 do i have a guy for you or he listens to this and he goes fuck you steve and he scores 43 that'd be a cool story i'd like that it'd be a great story prime patrick liney was a force of nature yeah he was crazy he was automatic automatic there was there was that one season i want to say like half his goals were scored in europe because he went to europe for the european tour scored a shitload of goals and then just disappeared he's one of the most difficult players to evaluate in the nhl yeah yeah the player we're talking about he hasn't been since like the 2020 season he hasn't even played more than 60 games in a season since the 1920 season so it's a long time doesn't happen and then the uh the 21 22
Starting point is 01:18:12 season with columbus he did score 26 goals in 56 games which is unreal yeah so that as a center which was weird yeah there's still that in there but then since then 22 goals in 55 which isn't too bad six goals in 18 games for columbus and then 20 goals 52 for montreal and then last season only gone to five games no goals i'm trying to find the goal scoring is still kind of there it is i wanted to find um yeah it's gonna be too difficult on my phone um when he went the year he went to finland i think it was finland and he was absolutely unbelievable and then seattle's a good candidate i think like even la you listed 10 teams that could just take a chance on a guy who probably gets you 20 goals like for like what did what does nick robertson make
Starting point is 01:19:02 three and a half three and a half like i feel like patrick line is going to make less than that and probably put up the same amount of goals if he's healthy that's perfectly oh shit oh no oh heavens what pittsburgh i don't know if he's gone well was he ever a sue greyhound we know he was not but we do have something on pittsburgh because uh last you know last week we were talking about alpha male shane wright uh being linked to the vancouver canucks well what about an alpha male in pennsylvania oh apparently according to josh yohi past week two different sources with the pens organization who spoke anonymously because they did not have permission to discuss the subject publicly told me that general manager kyle dubas and the front office
Starting point is 01:19:43 are quote intrigued by right as they should be he's 22 centerman can dish alpha male alpha male confident assertive yeah centerman uh we like that uh if you didn't hear last show i i'm sorry and it's also interesting and he points this out former kraken gm ron francis who drafted shane wright just returned to the pens organization as a advisor so maybe i wonder what the asking price for shane wright would be such a dubious ass trade too isn't it it is he loves a project man he loves a project and he's done well he has no i don't fault him for that most of the projects are good he's done well post toronto with uh no he didn't go to projects where zach hyman was a project mason marchman was a project till he let him go zach hyman was actually a
Starting point is 01:20:26 project yeah people do kind of forget that i don't know what pittsburgh has that seattle wants yeah and why is seattle in such a rush to trade him i just think he's he's on the market right because he needs a new contract after this season he's an rfa so maybe they're looking to move off of him before they have to give him something and they're like you're gonna regret that contract or something i don't know is that noise from his camp possibly it's got to be because like seattle needs players right like i'm i'm not interested in futures from pittsburgh if i'm seattle maybe this is now kurt overhart trying to get his client out of somewhere could be but he said anonymous sources within the organization no i mean like you're hearing noise about like oh
Starting point is 01:21:11 pittsburgh wants him and all that because he's trying to move him on you know like i can i can see so the the thing is is that right now he's behind benears and stevenson on the center depth chart um which is actually pretty good for you know a 22 year old center to be sheltered it's just that they've not played him in a role that's conducive with his development which is great when you're developing centers within your own organization you dummies so take it reach out and take it yeah there's also that it's a reach out and take it league it's not a spoon feed league what do you think about like then so and again seattle's kind of desperate then they're going to trade a 22 year old center and then get what and then they've got a hole at 3c
Starting point is 01:21:55 i think he stays man unless unless it's a player for player i agree with you why would you want futures unless you're parlaying it immediately yeah he was a part bobby man was a project i don't have a good answer maybe there's something there but i don't know i don't have a good answer worth noting by the way jared mccann 30 years old last year of his five million dollar deal if kyle dubas acquires jared mccann i'm going to lose hilarious brazzo was bad enough yeah a successful conner doer yep kyle don't piss me off he's here to piss you off he is here to piss me off um david i just don't see the assets on pittsburgh that could go back the other way i don't either you know okay let me throw a wild name out there ben kindle and i'm not saying one
Starting point is 01:22:48 for one this is a player pittsburgh acquired and it's also kind of sort of a disgruntled asset Rucker McGroarty. Oh. Three teams in four years is rough, though. Three teams in four. Not his fault. It wasn't his idea to get traded, was it? I'm pretty sure it was.
Starting point is 01:23:10 Yeah, because it was Yeager that went the other way? Braden Yeager, yeah. Rucker McGroarty, Shane Wright. Do you have to sweeten that deal up a bit? 14th overall pick of 2022, McGroarty. Same draft as Shane Wright. Yeah. What were his AHL numbers?
Starting point is 01:23:26 ahl 30 games 10 goals 24 assists not pat oh that's very good yeah 34 points in 30 games skating was the issue from what i remember how's that that's the well the ahl is it's a weird league like players put up crazy points with a deficiency and then they get called up to the nhl and they are like non-option it's it's crazy so it would have to come down to seattle liking the player and thinking that they could be valuable yeah well and then there's shane right who hasn't been fourth overall pick quality but he's been an nhl player at least you have that yeah i kind of think i don't know what if there's something there oh what i'm saying is maybe seattle should just shut up and make him stay guy makes 800 grand or 900 grand like just try to play him in more
Starting point is 01:24:17 offensive situations chandler stevenson could take more of the defensive stuff like i don't know Yeah, because I think it'd be a mistake to take pieces to win this season if you're Seattle. I don't think that's the right move for your franchise. You've got to probably kind of build up from here, right? You're looking at a slow just retool here. I don't think you should be aiming for a playoff spot. I wonder if a team like Montreal might be interested.
Starting point is 01:24:40 They'd have young players. That's so funny. No way. I don't know. That'd be so funny. Whatever their amateur scouts say and pro scouts say, I'm inclined to trust. they do pretty well they didn't like them yeah if they don't like them well they didn't like them
Starting point is 01:24:56 so it'd be weird to trade for them right they didn't like them enough to pick them first overall do they like them enough to be like we'll play you third line center and or like you can challenge Oliver Kapanen for 2c we're getting an opportunity for you it'd be it'd be very funny that you know what I think that's funnier than Dubas getting McCann him death staring them now be hilarious all that i i would beg the montreal in arena staff to make the death stare every time he scores just throw that up on screen like that would be amazing they need to shoot a skit after the trade okay and it's him and jeff gordon and they just walk in the room just a lot of dead panning back and forth then he's like the camera pulls out
Starting point is 01:25:42 yeah hey man yeah great great to see you i like that i like that a lot yeah uh jamie Drysdale has signed an extension with the Philadelphia Flyers. Four years, $6.5 million. That's a lot less than Cutter Gauthier is going to sign for. 32 points, 8 goals, and 24 assists in 78 games. Dependable defenseman, 24 years old. He had filed for arbitration, but they're going to skip that, as most players do.
Starting point is 01:26:04 I mean, this is a... Listen, Philadelphia overperformed expectations last year. I can't help but think that they may overdo it again this year. And it's not because of the Jamie Drysdale deal, which I think is a fair deal for both sides. They walk into next year with Porter Martone, who was unbelievable. So good. And Matvey Mishkov, likely in shape, who was very good in his rookie season. Mishkov will be better.
Starting point is 01:26:32 I'm skeptical if Ladar can repeat what he did. But he's got Joe Wall. But he's got Wall, who should be better than Sam Arison, for God's sake. at least i'm sorry that's ottawa senators backup sam arison to you sir yeah i think by default you have a bunch of free wins by not having to play sam arison like they should be in a better position than they were last season i think they figured something out with the coaching like they're hopefully that's just repeatable for their team in terms of their strategy that they discovered on the back half of last season where they really got to go on that run and if they can
Starting point is 01:27:05 just keep playing that style of hockey over the course of an entire season they should be right in the mix for the playoff team once again i will season denver barky they're they're pretty good now who like i wonder about them and think could philadelphia be the team that fights everybody off to come second in the division like carolina i think is the lock that's the free space they always win the division i still really like washington i did last year and they didn't make it yeah but i i like them a lot more this year right but could philadelphia challenge them because washington had a great year two years ago they could it's such a jump ball you know what i'm dreading already is when we got to do our our preview videos yeah and like i'm gonna i
Starting point is 01:27:45 got to put someone second i got to put someone third i got to put someone fourth and you're gonna be like what you dumbass and i'm gonna be like okay but i see three a three point gap between them like i don't know it is what it is i don't know like that's that's a win and a half could be philly could be pittsburgh could be washington could be the islanders could be why are you making me do this i thought washington got real unlucky in the shootout and the ot losses like they they should have been a lot closer well they should i think they should have made the playoffs and all those bounces go a different way so i think they uh i think they have a solid season next year like i probably have them ahead of philly if you're if you're philadelphia you took the shot
Starting point is 01:28:31 at shane wright sorry not shane wright leo carlson do you take a shot at shane wright who would be a lot less expensive no they're both top five picks you got dvorak zgris kates and couturier down the middle and hilariously only zgris makes more than couturier do you have a shane wright come in and give him a different opportunity in philadelphia with that the acquiring cost is not going to be that much this is this is shane wright's problem is your acquiring team needs to be convinced that you are going to come in play a defined spot on the team and make them better like i'm just looking at the flyers roster like does he does he make them better not immediately i don't think i don't think it's a guarantee all right so you put them on the right
Starting point is 01:29:20 connect me no martone no mitch kov no and i know some of those guys probably play different wings i mean kate's technically is a left winger most of the time tip it no forster probably not no and then you got barky like what what am i doing right for barky probably not this is his problem you know who i bet he'd help seattle fair enough okay i like that right like this is i don't know if you're that caliber of player where you can just remember nick robertson's like i want to go and the leafs just went um no also on july 1st are you insane yeah it was an ill-timed trade request so anyway see you at camp next two years yeah yeah you're gonna k of i want to trade k you happen to see the name in your driver's license anyway see you at camp yeah that's that
Starting point is 01:30:13 that matches the contract you signed yeah yeah exactly how about relax and uh do zoomies out there like worked out for him mckay of staying got him a lot of money yes it did it ended maybe that could happen for shane right yeah yeah okay all right you got to prove your worth in this league either in seattle or somewhere else and he hasn't done it i and i like this player and i'm cheering for this player but he hasn't done it two and five canadians will hear the words you have cancer that's why every step and dollar raised matters on september 19th join thousands in toronto for the princess margaret cancer foundation walk challenge yourself friends and family to walk 21 kilometers in support of life-saving research together we can carry the
Starting point is 01:30:59 fire and help create a world free from the fear of cancer register today at pmcfwalk.ca In Toronto, every arrival is a statement, and nothing says it better than this. Starting point is 01:31:33 total registrations for calendar year 2025 for the Cadillac definition of luxury. Greg Wyshynski did a breakdown of the behind-the-scenes NHL broadcast training camp. I don't know if you knew this existed. Nope. But it is, he starts it with, Cam Jansen couldn't stop trembling. He played nine seasons as an NHL enforcer, appears on television in St. Louis,
Starting point is 01:31:53 and co-hosts a successful hockey podcast, but holding a microphone to ask questions of a fake Rod Brendamore while the camera recorded them in a small Manhattan conference room at NHL headquarters, that rattled him. He said, I'm shaking, I'm sweating through this. And so essentially, the NHL has a two-day seminar at league offices early in July that gives eight current and former players a crash course
Starting point is 01:32:14 about working in media. TV personalities from ESPN, TNT, and the NHL Network ran them through the gauntlet of broadcasts, intermission debates, and in-game interviews, while network execs were offered advice on everything from social media strategy to the temperature of their hot takes um so yeah cam's from the cam and strict show but apparently one of the guys that stands out at this uh or stood out at this was sean dersey
Starting point is 01:32:37 who doesn't surprise me at all because we had him on agent provocateur he's a noted alan welsh client good talker real good talker real fiery yes he was actually very chill on the show but thoughtful what struck me is like how deep this man was and open and well i gotta do this and i got to be positive about that because at that point he had some injuries and stuff he grew up a leaf fan and was trained by the toronto media ah you think so that's no no i don't uh no it's that's good and it's fascinating that they do this kind of stuff and it kind of um explains something that i've always sort of wondered about like uh the playoffs come around and then someone shows up and you're like why is jake allen on tv why is ryan strome on tv and and you forget
Starting point is 01:33:27 like these guys have to apply right like like not apply i don't think they submitted a resume to cbc but like they have to voice their interest and screen test yeah and my guess is they're not just walking in off the street like they've done something like this i don't know that for sure but it always seems very random and my guess is it's not yeah i think it's supposed to feel random but it isn't there's a lot of work that goes in exactly and i know back in my day when i went to university way back when we had a summer program at radio and television arts at formerly ryerson university where people who in their post-playing career could take a like a crash course in uh like television studio like kind of like how it was a full program for us but they
Starting point is 01:34:15 would do it over the course of like a couple weeks over the summer like a two-month kind of fast track program name names and there'd be x players who want to get into broadcasting who would do it like who so it's uh yeah these people got to get trained somehow uh hayden has some insight well i was just gonna say when i worked in radio when we would have a guest or a main host like go away for a week or take a week off the host who is staying we would have a rotation of either current players in their off season or former players and the ones that we would think would be good we would see them on sports net later or tsa like we would see them like a great one was uh frankie we had frankie carrata on as a co-host way way back and then we started seeing
Starting point is 01:34:57 him on tsn we're like oh okay so like these media training stuff even radio back then was like they would use it to see how they would do in front of a mic and giving their takes and stuff like that do you like was it just former players or did they ever have dumbass hockey youtubers uh into talk there was one time they got this steve dangle guy in right to talk with scott macarthur about baseball and it was like watching a kid learn sports for the first time yeah lowest rated segment in video history yeah easily easily it was me and justin bourne looking across each other with scott macarthur in the middle doing all the work all the work in the middle of july like uh he's he's gifted at what he does the only two current players and i say current with an
Starting point is 01:35:43 asterisk because i don't think ryan reeves is a current player anymore but uh they he is not officially retired never know uh we're jersey and ryan reeves and i think ryan reeves will be phenomenal he'll be great on the air i feel bad like if this is it for him he's so i know he wants to hit a thousand games yeah so close um maybe the flames or something should take it to just flames or you gotta be you also got to be a serious organization and you can't have the make a wish for ryan reeve yeah games like what are we doing i mean he did listen make a thousand games but you already scored a stanley cup goal like ryan reed scored in the stanley cup final like it's crazy you know like i you had a good career he's played i sort of went over this a
Starting point is 01:36:25 few years ago he's shockingly up there in career playoff games played like he's played more playoff games than i want to say over 80 of players who ever and wasn't he traded for like wasn't he traded for like a first round pick once or something like that or sort or like a high second but it's a bit of a even being as he's an enforcer being even associated with the first round pick is crazy what it was is he was you know how like draft picks will be the sweetener to move up he was the sweetener okay so oh he was traded for a first round pick yeah but along with a second yeah is the guy who got traded for carrie price bragging about it no you know it's like gannon larocque is that who it was you remember i should know i have his jersey wow yeah
Starting point is 01:37:10 i should have remembered that in my bad yeah that whole story that's all right yeah we have a gannon larocque jersey i believe he officially retired barracuda did he yeah he dealt with a lot of injury yeah injuries ended his career unfortunately but he is good enough to get trade it for gary bryan and if you're listening i have your jersey if you want it back i'll just i'll just send it to you i just i keep it's just on my shelf next to my computer i think three games you at least two from the images we were able to find uh game worn jersey of gannon larocque gannon larocque yeah fun um just by total flu also big uh news in terms of where you're going to watch the nhl because obviously regional sports networks have been struggling for
Starting point is 01:37:52 a long long time uh the nhl has done what they should have done years ago and they will have centralized production services for the hurricanes blue jackets wild and blues worth noting also that the ducks uh canceled their contract with victory plus um and i would imagine they're probably moving to this as well but i don't know so what does this mean it means that the nhl will be producing and and distributing their games so they'll probably have a got a uh subscription service that you can get your your local games on got it uh maybe they'll be on nhl network locally i don't know how they're going to do that but um it won't affect us up here no it doesn't affect us at all um but i it is something that they i think that they should do
Starting point is 01:38:33 and needed to do and i actually think it could be a huge revenue driver for them i'm not sure i know selling sports rights is always better but you know how do you convince uh a streamer like amazon or netflix that's that's dipping its toe into sports to go regional right right they're interested in national rights youtube's interested in national rights nobody's interested in the local rights that are not national games which comes back to hey wouldn't it be smart to make every game a national game so and then charge more money for it blackouts are stupid i'm uh Why are we in 2026? Why do we still have blackouts?
Starting point is 01:39:09 Why do we have blackouts? I am a naive little boy. Okay, so I am a Ducks fan who lives in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. Or a better example would be Chicago. Yeah, because Toronto, Canada, you watch in a report. So I live in Chicago.
Starting point is 01:39:29 Yep. And I want to watch the Ducks. Yep. Can I? Yes, you will be able to. I will be able to. You'll have to pay a fee to the NHL probably, but yeah. No, you should use an example from like actual life.
Starting point is 01:39:43 Like, hey, I'm Steve Dangle and I live in the Toronto area. Can I watch a Sens game on a Tuesday? You cannot. When it's on TSN. You cannot. No, I can't. It's not in my region. You can if you want to pay the super extra thing for Sportsnet Edge Plus.
Starting point is 01:39:58 What? I think it's Sportsnet Edge Plus. When it's a TSN local broadcast, you can't even. Yeah, I think they carry it. if you've got it's like a three no i have that one sometimes i can't even watch it really yeah tsn games on what is like what is the purpose that's the deal but that's the way the deal should what is the purpose yeah i'll show you the uh someone asked for that you know what i mean yeah someone's like black this out why because it's it's left over from back in the day when
Starting point is 01:40:24 you'd actually have over the air signals and stuff like that but it's it's it's it's to me it's it's um it's um it's lawyer stuff now it's fine print stuff it doesn't mean anything you can distribute anything anywhere at any time for any price yeah oh sorry go ahead all i was gonna say is don't make me steal this well i it is 2026 i am smarter than well and i will just take it i always find it funny when people are like hey well the you know like the local ratings are down it's because you're making people steal it if you just made it available maybe the ratings would be up still a bunch of hockey fans yeah last i checked friggin make it available stupid uh the the sportsnet premium
Starting point is 01:41:06 tier that you're talking about adam it's still subject to the restrictions so like on the oilers games for instance it reads uh 50 to 78 games for the edmonton oilers depending on regional restrictions wow it's the canucks 50 to 78 games so i have to steal depending on regional restrictions i have to steal or no or just move your body to those regions to watch each game go to ottawa when you want to see those games locally on tsm that's all you gotta do like a train adam what's the big deal take the train you got a fucking private jet you're right jesse take your jet over to ottawa to watch the game you know we're good at spotting mistakes here go into that in the back end of the website delete delete delete 84 84 games no i can't yeah uh here's
Starting point is 01:41:50 here's the options you've left me with steal don't watch i think most people are just not going to watch you know how many times i've been on the my boomer ass i've been on the computer and i'm like all right uncle i've just forget it yeah i'll do something else forget it yeah you shouldn't give people a reason to turn away your product like if i desperately want to watch a game because sometimes those games are very interesting and you're like because they became interesting yeah and you can't watch yeah it's dumb stupid and let it be known i steal a lot of habs games during the season like because they're the regional restrictions too and yeah they're on the tsn broadcast locally and it's like oh i just fucking throw up that stream on the laptop and then the
Starting point is 01:42:30 other ones i don't think now now jesse though you should say it's very difficult to do that right no it's fairly easy these days they did shut down one recently a site that i use all the time they shut it down like a couple weeks ago and i went to the thing it was like this site has been seized by i figured which government it was blah blah i was like ah shit so i gotta go on another one oh no and then you were never able to watch another no no i just went on the other one oh you just stole it differently yeah yeah okay well let's continue this fucking stupid song and dance yeah and they we need the the old package the nhl tv package and the one they still have in europe where it's just like hey you buy just here's my 700 i get everything you know like i'd
Starting point is 01:43:12 love that that'd be you know there is jesse uh uh a vpn company we used to work with and still do that has a promo code yeah i'd rather steal you'd rather steal see i don't mind paying for it if it's reliable but i just make let me pay for it it's 2026 it's it's 2026 i get to use that extra money to go through the odyssey again you know yeah true like that chunk of chain wait did you see it so yeah 70 millimeter 70 millimeter imax yeah i got my tickets how did you come in when are you going uh the first week august okay yeah because i've heard those tickets are really hard to get it sold out for like the month unless they're like really kind of there's a couple seats you can probably get in like the front from like a couple weeks from now but like i got mine a
Starting point is 01:43:57 little i'm waiting till late august then to see it because i need to see i'm now i'm actually on the train of okay i don't see it 70 millimeter fine fine i'm just a bandwagoner i am he doesn't care but but then people were showing me how much i would miss of the big the the titans and their big legs how much i would miss of them if i didn't see it you're not missing anything they say they cut the thing now yeah but you're not missing you're yes there is action in this steve doesn't want to hear this at all no yeah there is action that you're not seeing in that aspect ratio but the imax in that tall screen is designed to be sit and wash in that screen if you're putting that picture in the regular theater it's not the same experience so you're not really missing anything
Starting point is 01:44:40 the the experience you're having with the story and everything is the same you're fine in your regular theater there's a different experience at imax 70 millimeter come on people all right i guess you're not well it's across young street you couldn't there's vaughn and mississauga those are your only opportunities man only two imagine you ordered a burger and it came on a really small plate and the part that hung over the plate they just cut that part of the burger off i'll see they're like here's your burger you're just doing oh i saw a bunch of memes i'm just making fun of it no no no i like the memes is like watching odyssey the way it should be and it's like the gas station monitor like on your gas give me the full movie someone's like i'm gonna watch
Starting point is 01:45:20 the odyssey in 40 parts on tiktok yeah it's uploaded by someone you think it's only gonna be 40 where somebody uploads like all of it tv show and you can watch it and like family guy buddy dutton ranch yeah oh there's rip getting into another fight and telling people what for i love it the man attacked the other man with a sword and i don't know i don't know yeah i've never understood that or why is it always the same there's like a song underneath it too like if the world was ending yeah that one oh my god boy i hate that song i i know it's not his fault but arrest bruno mars what do you mean i think he wrote it no i know no but it's not his fault it's used on every tiktok arrest him for writing such catchy music yeah yeah like good you see

Starting point is 01:48:36 simplicity and air bubble floats within a tube of water to ensure something straight simply place the level on top and felt the air bubble to get centered yeah I get the level Adam's card is just a
