so are we are we talking about chris rock versus will smith or radko gudas versus water bottle
what do you how do you guys want to start radko gudas radko gudas yeah
hit going full karen on the uh on the water bottles there the water bottle didn't say anything
oh true that's the difference well i i thought it was really funny that sean mckenzie put together
a thing about the fact that the last time he was in the penalty box the the the water bottles were
empty so then the next time he comes in the penalty box like you know this is weeks ago the
last time the flyers and leafs played each other so the last time that's why gudas is so mad is
that the last time radco gudas was in toronto the water bottles were empty and he got mad because
there was no water and then now he took another penalty whoever is supposed to fill those water
bottles and no it's not the guy with the headphones on everyone uh who had to pick them up yeah um who
is playing a joke because they know rad radko gudas is going to be in the box because that's
what radko gudas does yeah and so he went like that i think the funny part about that whole
sequence was the fact that they got him twice like to get him once it's sort of funny to get
him twice is is all-star level pranking and wait they did that on purpose yeah oh well i mean that's
the the contention is that that because every other team gets their water bottle filled but
it's radko gudas that didn't and it's just really it's really and radko gudas has a history with
water bottles out of steve probably remembers this i don't know but in 2013 scotty upshall
sprayed radko gudas with a water bottle and radko gudas got kicked out of the game because he slammed
his stick down at the Florida Panthers
bench. He was playing with Tampa at the time.
I do not remember that. So, Gudis
was playing with Tampa. Yeah. And Scotty
who is it? Scotty Upshaw
from the bench squirted Gudis
who was on the ice with the water
bottle. And Gudis
slams his stick down onto
the Panthers bench and he got
tossed from the gate. So,
he has a history with water bottles.
So, it's even funnier that
now it's come full circle
and his water bottle stuff.
He's got a thing with water bottles, does he?
And then a year later,
they fought because of this water bottle incident.
Oh, my God.
So, okay.
So, we've deduced that he has a memory.
Yeah, well, that's good.
I mean, he sure does seem to remember things.
I mean, it's good.
I'm glad we're talking about the incident from last night.
Yeah, this is the one.
This is the one we're talking about.
This one.
I think the Radko Gudis thing,
it's like, here's the thing.
When you have a tough guy who acts tough,
you remember when um who was the player that made front of uh kevin bx who did the uh vernon fiddler
vernon fiddler like clowned kevin bx in the game once and and was like acting like like a you know
doing the kevin bx impression and even alan vino who was the coach of the canucks at the time
thought it was hilarious right and and bx seems like a really great guy i think you know you
you take your lumps right i'm still waiting for vernon fiddler to be on hockey net i think it'd
be a hundred percent that would be a great to put them face to face absolutely but i think i think
the thing here is with gudis it's like it's so you know these guys these tough guys there's so few of
them and when they take themselves super seriously as radco gudis does even though i hear he can be a
super fun teammate when you see stuff like that it's like it's really hard for us to take a tough
guy seriously when he's upset about no water being in the water bottles and it's like you know he
He could just turn to the attendant, the guy with the headphones on,
who is literally part of the scoring team, and say,
hey, can you contact somebody?
I'd really like some water bottles.
But no, instead, what he does is he throws one down,
and he throws the second down, and then makes the guy pick it up.
Like a child.
The way he does it.
And the water's right in front of him in a cooler.
Oh, it's in a cooler.
You'll see, yeah.
If you saw from the overhead view, when he threw down the two water bottles
and they couldn't find it, there's a cooler down there,
and he just reached in, and they gave him a Gatorade or whatever.
It's right there.
I was about to say, well, he's got two minutes to fill the thing,
but no, he doesn't.
The Leafs scored on the power play, so maybe he knew.
Maybe he did.
He looked it up, and he's like, oh, man, they're deadly at home.
They're deadly at home.
They're going to get me.
Ah, they got me.
There's going to be one waiting for you when you get to the mid.
I don't look at him as a tough guy.
Tough guys are, I think, guys who can turn it on and off
and turn it on when they have to.
Radko Gudis just literally can't help himself.
like he takes penalties all the time he's a violent player man like he's he's i don't know
how many times he's been suspended but like that's he's a loose cannon you you can't i'm
interested to see how a playoff series against him goes because you can get away with more but
he's also so easy to antagonize he might win a series or lose it but he might win it he might
win it he might lose it just by antagonizing people depends who's calling it yeah yeah like
you gotta manage his ice time based on who's calling the game oh this ref actually calls
penalties we should we should maybe dial it back you're on the third pair tonight there radco
you know he's no it's i don't know it was just so petulant throwing the water bottles you baby
stop yeah well and that's why it was so funny is that like oh big tough guy gets a little like it
like again nhl players love a water bottle or hate it or hate it or hate it and it was just it's just
funny to see a tough guy throw a tantrum like that it was great yeah sure now and that was all
anyone talked about so i i went to bed yesterday watching i wanted to watch so i watched obviously
you watch sportsnet which the app was so painful last night and if you stream sports then i feel
for you how do um oh it was it was oh anyway so i i had after i restarted it for the 40th time last
night uh listen what are you doing what are you what are you doing i i was able to watch and then
i wanted to watch um afterwards because uh sports at central was on and i uh and martine uh and eric
were giving like their their update and i wanted to see the team canada making the uh making the
world cup for the first time since 1986 if you're an american listener you don't realize how big of
a deal this is we've made it once and it was in 1986 and most of the team was not even born yet
and they didn't score and they didn't score they have not yet scored a goal in the world cup
is that uh yeah they lost i think it was uh three games and didn't score oh allowed five so if we
score a goal that would already be better right yes so anyway long story short i want to see that
and then i go to bed and i realized that around the time i fell asleep this at the will smith
incident happened but i did not check my phone until this morning and i wrote mostly i know i've
missed something when jesse and steve have about 40 text messages in our group chat there's a lot
of stuff you know i think i think a little incident happened there's a lot of stuff so
i mean oh so when you woke up this morning did you what was your first reaction because you
okay it's the top 40 radio show one of the biggest in the country so i think my first reaction is
always is it fake like you have to be cynical about these things right is it fake some people
still think it is i understand why people thought i could but but i think what you do before you say
anything is you go i'm going to investigate this right no there are still some people like i can
see them on my facebook page straight to reaction and they're like they're like photoshop is not
open right away and you're not making memes retire from the internet you suck so no so i i i you know
then then i watched the clips like the shade room has everything right if you want gossip and drama
the shade room has it so it had firstly i think it had a slide of will smith's apology and he's
like crying in it and i'm like okay this seems pretty real and why would he do this over the
course of his oscar speech it's the oscars also not his apology to chris rock no just to the
academy to the academy yeah yeah for causing an incident and then and then i watched the chris
rock joke and then i watched and by the way it wasn't a good joke it was really it was punching
down and shitty it was too far uh it's too far and also not even well like sometimes you're like
god i shouldn't like that joke but it's it was well that's not a good joke objectively on no
level is that a good joke and you don't need to be making taking shots at people's appearances you
just don't um people's health problems yeah she has alopecia yeah it's not even her appearance
something beyond her control it's wild i see my question is did he know like i mean listen i don't
know she just shaved her i didn't know she had alopecia i just thought she looked good with short
hair but i i don't know what do i know about that but maybe you know chris rock and will smith have
worked together this is the thing like that's i was like he it's kind of personal because he should
know right right well maybe it's confusing also you were adam under the impression that it was
off the cuff i think that's written you think that joke was written yeah i thought that joke
was so bad that there's no way he could write that really i think because uh he wouldn't have
written it i think it's one of the eight writers who write for the show because um those shows like
uh behind the curtain those those things are written those comedians aren't writing their
own jokes and i think that's a written joke by one of those writers who thought hey this is a
i'm gonna take this pot shot and i think that crossed the line it was too far i agree so so
Here's my contention to Jesse about that.
If you've ever seen Chris Rock on Saturday Night Live, he's not very good.
Chris Rock is an incredible writer of jokes and deliverer of jokes.
But I don't think what Saturday Night Live is, is improv, right?
It's off the cuff.
For the audience, can you explain what SNL is?
Well, but I'm just trying to define the different types of comedy, right?
So you're trying to, it's a completely different skill.
and I haven't ever seen him be that good
at it. And I love
Chris Rock. I had all of his
CDs growing up.
All of them. I mean, he was spectacular
and is a very funny person.
But I thought that joke, I'm like, he
couldn't have. It's so bad.
It's such a... Like, even if
Will Smith and Jada had just stiff
upper-lipped it and not said anything,
that joke was... It was just
kind of like...
Even if you had said something before that, it would have made it
less fun.
you know it just wasn't good it wasn't good and it was also wrong you don't need to be taking
pot shots at someone's appearance right so so then there's so you asked me how i felt when i woke up
i went i went oh i guess this is going to be our entire show and then i stopped and went oh this
is going to be our entire show right because here's what plays into it instantly race yeah
almost as instantly people are going to start talking about mental health yeah uh beyond that
you could find any range
of takes and opinions on this.
Toxic masculinity was a big one. Oh, 100%.
Violence. Violence.
What's acceptable? What isn't?
Comedy. Yeah. Do comedians
have the right to say anything they want? Is it
just a joke? According to Judd Apatow,
manslaughter.
Yeah. Judd Apatow's
tweet about he could have killed him. I mean, like,
Chris Rock didn't even fall over. And let me tell you
something. Let me tell you something.
Like, we don't need to go
into the debate of
uh how hard was the slap but but i'll be honest with you i've stood next to will smith before the
man is huge he played muhammad ali he can throw a punch well but that's so i'm watching and i'm
like that slap sucked so bad and i know will smith knows how to throw a punch yeah yes like
yeah he trained for a year to play muhammad ali so he could throw a punch yeah but he just
stands square to him and like barely turns his body and like i don't i don't know and and to be
to be fair to chris rock and and let me say this and this shouldn't have to be said but i'm going
to say it anyway i don't know way say everything in in no way will we ever condone violence of
this sort like i understand violence in the ufc i understand violence in hockey but everybody who
saw this was like i don't i don't condone violence in any in any instance ever it's
unacceptable i'm like okay so you watch hockey okay so you do condone some violence yeah just
let's be clear about what violence you condone and let me be straight i don't think that that
was the right thing to do i don't think anybody sitting here thinks that was no you can't go
around slapping people in the face because they say something you don't like because they say
something you don't like you can't you can't hit people that's just not a thing you can do in any
instance ever you know what you could do you could get up for your oscar speech and say just before
i accept this let me just say chris rock what you said about my wife was completely unacceptable
i'm not kidding and that kind of shit needs to go in the trash like you need and that would have
been sean penn do that i don't know like that no i understand what you're saying you get you just
you just don't right now the thing here and this is i think context is key because i was thinking
about this on the way to work this morning at 5 a.m is really fucking hard to think of you got
to think about this because you know it's the first break you're going to have at six you know
it's the first thing out of your mouth and you know it's a really complex issue so what do you
want to say about this that is going to be different that isn't going to be fucking stupid
and that is not going to because because the reality is there's no way to put a tight bow on
this chris rock told a shitty joke will smith did a shitty thing they're not equal will smith did
the shittier thing probably but what i saw were other people in my industry going will smith
should be arrested which which chris rock disagrees with yeah because chris rock chose not
to i tried to articulate in a tweet that what chris rock did is a slappable comment yes you
know i was like he deserves to get slapped in the face for being telling such a shitty joke yes like
you should tell a shit and you're doing a little tongue-in-cheek there yeah yeah but like that's
that's not the nuance that's also like i wouldn't want my boyfriend or my husband to well he didn't
say it about you did he no right you weren't there like let's let's so let's let's be a little bit
more careful about what you would do in the situation you extraordinarily weren't in you
know if i was in the oscars and the host made fun of me you're talking about like the least
relatable experience there's like two people in the world who can relate to that yeah not even
that we're what we're about to get into it's if i was will smith and for years my wife has been
publicly saying things about me we've been in unhappy marriage for 10 years and then somebody
said something and i've been the happiest man in america then i don't know if you're gonna if
you're gonna finally snap let's just let's get into that you just reminded me of the 50 cent thing
why does she keep saying this shit yo what 50 cents today i don't know if you saw his post
today no but he posted about it and he's like he's like if you win oscars you have the right
to slap people and when i win one i'm gonna slap the shit out of a lot of people and typical 50
cent humor okay i laugh at some of his shit sometimes because it is funny now there's not
enough time left in my life to consume all the media that is surrounded just with this incident
so so here's what i was thinking on the way to work i'm thinking
let's let's go to let's go through will smith's career right the average person in hollywood
has some sort of something happened at some point especially when you've been around as long as will
has and we're talking not we're not talking 25 years anymore i don't even think we're talking
30 years i think we're talking 35 years i think he and dj jazzy jeff i think that summertime song
came out in 1990 19 or maybe 1989 like our entire lives he has been around since literally i was
shitting myself and my parents were cleaning it up that's how long this guy has been famous you
could have used anything no you're gonna you're never gonna forget that man it's the second
straight episode so so i'm thinking like okay so what has will smith done wrong in his career prior
to this there was um so he has slapped someone before has he yes but yeah it was carpet it was
on a red carpet holy shit i didn't know that and it was yeah but it was it was the comedian it was
a comedian who uh he breaks into red carpets and he does like wacky stuff didn't he like kiss him
or something yeah and he tried to kiss him on the oh okay well he invaded his personal space yeah
He tried to sexually assault him.
Yeah, he's being honest.
Put it in those terms, yeah.
So it was a tap, but he was basically like, why would you do that?
Fuck off.
It was a fuck away.
Fuck off.
Yeah, yeah.
So he slapped that guy.
That's about, I mean, that's not even, that's not a mark on his career.
No.
That's the only comparable I can think of.
So I can tell you that in my life, what Will Smith meant to me, Fresh Prince was every
day after school.
Every fucking day.
he's a hero to our hero yeah and and and then let me tell you about this one day i uh i got
independence day for christmas one year and i wore that vhs out like i wore it out because it
you know they used to have those tracking lines in them and that sort of thing mine was like
a mess during certain world i know and so you know i admit my my pro will smith bias a little
bit here and again not condoning anything that he did but here's a person you you need to make
sure you repeat that every because because if i don't somebody's gonna clip it we don't condone
violence yeah i like violence it's great super good clip that uh no i think here's a here's a
black man in america who made himself the biggest star in america multiple times in multiple
different contexts that that show that he did was groundbreaking people think of the fresh prince as
oh it's as fun and hilarious and oh you know fish out of water poor kid from philadelphia
ends up rich family in los angeles that's cool guys the the the things do you remember the first
episode where you're talking about malcolm x and uncle phil walks in and he's like i heard the
brother speak yeah like powerful shit when his dad walks out on him and goes how come he don't
want me man think about powerful shit that last episode where all the furniture's cleared out of
the mansion and he's just standing there alone there's stuff that they tackle in that show
that we did not really begin to absorb and try to tackle until about five years ago societally
it was about the black experience and as much as you're a little kid at the time
um you know i didn't i didn't absorb all that i didn't get all that but it did make you aware of
right and i think will smith has been friendly to everybody that guy i could tell you on the
media side of things he brings it for every interview you've interviewed will smith yes
that's great uh he has raised a family three kids and listen you can take pot shots at willow and
jayden but they're doing great they're doing great like willow's had three of the biggest
hits on tiktok which matters by the way in the last year caught a vibe uh absolutely um uh you
For all intents and purposes, this is a person that has never really done anything but try to
please the public. It is extremely difficult. Don't tell me that it's the same for a white guy
in his position as it is for Will. And for 35 or 32 or whatever years, he's had to be palatable
to the white audience, Will Smith. That's a fucking challenge in a society that loves a
car crash story. We loved it when Britney Spears shaved her head. We loved it when Lindsay Lohan
tore her career apart and fell victim to drugs and alcohol and abusive men and all these other
things. Loved it. Tabloids ate that shit up. Will Smith has not done any of that, has skated all of
that as a black man in America. Think about that. Now, that has to be a lot of pressure.
that has to be the kind of shit where you suck up a lot of shit throughout the years people make
passing comments um they're you know jesse you know what it's like to be black there's shit that
you deal with that steve and i do not deal with right yeah yeah and he he said it in the speech
himself like he tried to clarify what was happening when he finally snapped and and he and he said
after he gave that beautiful quote from denzel and then he said that um like he's been taking a
lot of shit like he said it in those words and that it it all came to a head in that moment and
he tried to explain what happened there yeah and yeah it's it's been a it's been a long journey for
him so then we have a year and a half ago in the midst of the first wave of the pandemic it comes
out because some r&b singer wants to make a show of himself and wants his album to sell he talks
about on a podcast how he and jada pinkett smith had a an affair i don't know three four years ago
An entanglement.
An entanglement.
That's what she called it.
That's what she called it.
So they have this.
And usually with Hollywood affairs, what you do is the best PR move is to leave it.
You see these things come up.
You see them come up on Dumois.
You see them come up on TMZ.
And it's so-and-so was out with this.
Like Kevin Hart, while his wife was very pregnant, was caught making out with a woman in the back of a car by the paparazzi.
Didn't he open his next special?
Yeah, he did.
Now, kudos to him.
He hit it head on, right?
I mean, Chris Rock cannot get on stage next time and be like, man, airplane food's nuts.
No, no.
By the way, when I went to the Chris Rock show, he also said, man, I cheated on my wife.
And he did a whole thing about it the last time Chris Rock was in town.
Didn't we go together?
I think we did.
He's coming back in June.
Yeah, we should.
I think that'll be a hell of a ticket.
I sent them to Steve last night.
Oh, yeah.
I was like, these are going to sell out quick.
Why the fuck Jesse sent me Jay's tickets?
No.
So here's the reason I want to talk about this Red Table Talk quickly is that I don't
know if you saw it.
Did you see Red Table Talk?
You didn't know what Red Table Talk was.
Not the whole thing.
I saw like the most infamous.
You saw clips, right?
So Jada has this show with her mother and her daughter and it's called Red Table Talk
and it's basically where you lay it all on the line, right?
You're talking about everything.
So when this happens, she goes, me and Will are going to do Red Table Talk.
We're going to talk about it.
And I don't know if you saw it.
But it's some of, to me anyway, the most painful watch I've ever seen.
And Jesse and I had to cover it at Virgin.
It's the meme where Will Smith has the tears in his eyes.
Like that's where that meme comes from Red Table Talk.
Right.
Now, we don't know.
They've never said that they have an open marriage, but that's always sort of been out there.
But clearly, a line was crossed here because he was in tears and he was upset.
And what struck me was, you know, maybe they thought that that was the right way to handle it.
It didn't seem to me like he wanted to be there, but that's me guessing.
It seemed like he was upset about the cheating and how they have an open marriage,
but he also seemed upset that she forced him in that instance to talk about it.
It didn't seem like he wanted to be there at all.
I don't think he wanted to be there.
He seemed upset that he's just in this situation,
not even the fact that she had a thing on the side.
And do we know that that's the case?
We don't know that for sure.
But what I can tell you is that the fallout since has been brutal.
He's been clowned on for a year and a half.
Right.
Like I saw a text or saw tweets this morning saying like, oh man, you know, talking about
how, you know, Will Smith's going to get to sleep in the bed tonight.
Like stuff like that.
Like where, you know, basically the cuckold thing.
Right.
And this dates back to even like the 90s because Jada dated Tupac.
And she always brings that up in interviews, like throughout their entire marriage.
she uh she has love letters from tupac and she'll bring them up as you're talking about that and she
celebrates the anniversary of his death obviously and people every time she brings it up it's a
thing about will it's like oh your wife if she could have had him if she could have had tupac
she would have never been with will like she settled for will smith so he if since since the
90s he's been losing this marriage because of of a ghost that he can't beat and then and then now
now 25 years ago 25 years later she brings this up and she's like oh and and for a long time in
this marriage i've had a thing on the side and he's been captain positivity through it all
and then finally like bro that's will smith yeah yeah that's literally one of the most famous people
on the planet ever famous people ever and you're talking about his dirty laundry yeah on facebook
and frankly yo if you got an open relationship okay it's your kink that's i mean i don't know
of you would even call it a kick that's that's your thing that's what works for you whatever
your business your business not my business but people have been clowning this guy forever and to
me that slap was not for chris rock that slap was for every shitty comment in the last 18 months
and before that will smith has ever got i think the man snapped and i think listen i don't i don't
again i'm not condoning this but i think if we're being completely honest every human being has a
breaking point to the point where you absolutely just lose it and i think it's a mistake in in any
case to judge people by their worst moment we have all had terrible moments and i'm again not
condoning it i think i would love to see i hope he apologizes apparently according to diddy they
made up backstage they talked about it made up back did he was the first person to talk after
the whole incident and did he of course did he's like how do i make this about me uh because that's
Did he just insert himself in situations?
I'm changing my name.
How did you come there?
Changing my name for a fifth time to Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock.
Yeah.
All right.
And just go back to him snapping.
This is also the biggest moment of his life.
Because Will Smith has been fighting for an Oscar for 20 years.
There's a whole long list of like 10 movies.
He should have had it.
Where you could have put Will Smith in the Oscar Best Actor.
Like you could have given it to him for all of those movies.
It's like DiCaprio.
And this is his revenant.
this is the night where he's gonna get it for king richard we all know it it's gonna happen
and he's sitting there in the audience he's like 30 years of this i'm finally gonna
get my oscar and then chris rock goes up on stage and says something offside and he snaps
and it's because as every human being does we have shitty moments and that was extremely shitty
i'm scared it was a shitty on a public it's shitty on the most public stage ever
i'm i'm skeptical of anyone who pretends like they don't understand that kind of anger
yeah like you've never been mad before where did this come from well you liar the reality
you're so disingenuous the reality is that that humans are violent the thing though that that
gives us our humanity is our ability to go uh maybe i shouldn't slap chris rock right yeah
and societally we've built that up as in like hey we don't slap people because it's not productive
yeah i think a lot of us have been like i should slap chris rock and then you don't slap chris
rock and i'm talking about metaphorical right but it's how many people on the internet want
to punch you in the face a lot let's be honest not enough not enough if you set up a booth that
was punch steve dangle in the face night how many people would take not not punch slap slap
steve dangle on the face you know how much money we could raise for charity oh boy yeah like i'll
be like hey five bucks to slap steve dangle oh here's 10 here's 20 here's yeah absolutely that's
also being arrogant enough uh to assume people care enough about me to hate me enough to slap me
right that's true yeah but not enough so listen the end of the day and here's how i look at this
situation and as so many and this pisses me off about my industry i'll be honest when people say
they have a problem with the media like sometimes i'm like that's that you're out of line and other
times i'm like i fucking get it there are literally shows this morning their show morning shows not
much different than mine who are like who's side are you on what right like there's like it's
binary right yeah like you can't have a discussion and everybody can be wrong no because here's what
they've done in radio you want to know why radio is the way it is consultants have come in and said
everybody has to pick a side there can be no nuance you have to yell at each other that's
what it's been it's been there cannot be a conversation like the one we're having because
well we got to get back to the music and uh this isn't very characterizing and people aren't going
to stick around and listen to it that's what they've done so what so then what it does as
members of the media we are oftentimes partially responsible for public discourse right we set the
tone and put things into into bite-sized pieces that people then go and repeat to their family
members and their friends and their co-workers and what what this is the only platform i'm going
to be able to do this on so i appreciate you listening but it just i'm loving it yeah waiting
for this since last night we're gonna keep going yeah i know it's a hockey podcast not everyone's
gonna have the stomach for it this is i'm watching like a surgeon at work no i jesse's come out of
retirement and like this is so fun that's why i miss working with jesse so much but i just think
i just think to say and to claim that that that will smith was right to do what he did
you're wrong to say and to claim that it's not understandable i think you're being disingenuous
yes and and and and listen you can hate me for that but i know what it's like to be angry and
human and and to be honest with you i think chris rock does too i don't see chris rock on uh you
know publicly going fuck will smith and bullshit and whatever not not any of that has happened and
i i i think that there are a lot of things at stake here like i said at the beginning racism
uh there's probably uh a little bit of classism there's definitely toxic masculinity i saw two
this is what i saw from don't don't forget the uh the ableism able uh him going at her disease
oh yeah a thousand percent i mean that was that was wrong too but what i saw this morning as i saw
um on the what is it was the the racist the race aspect obviously had to play with what was the
third thing i mentioned there there was a toxic their marriage toxic masculinity so here's the
here are the two takes i saw these are the big takes from celebrities by the way hit me one
person i think it was tim tiffany haddish that said it's so great to see you know a black married
man standing up for his wife no not like that and then uh we saw somebody else say and i forget who
it was trying to remember because there's a lot of information absorbed um he infantilized her
and this is another woman said this he turned he infantilized her because she can fight her
own battles his job in that situation is to comfort and support his wife not go and try to
fight her battles for her and there's two and so at the end of the day there's going to be a lot
of takes on this there's going to be a lot of people that we talk about we disagree it's one
of those times and i told steve and jesse this you turn on the microphone and you know people
are just gonna take what you said out of context or disagree with it or hate it or whatever i think
the reality is will smith has like if steve slapped somebody i'd be like for me anyway i'll
tell you straight up i would be like well um not your best moment but i would want i would want to
know what happened right i wouldn't even think that person you slapped deserved it i would have
been like you're slapping like leaf's twitter yeah or something you know like that's that's
what i think it is and i think it's i think it's it's part partial of stuff that we can't if steve
slapped somebody i'd be like steve what the fuck and also i'd be like are you okay man where did
that come from i think with will smith he's earned the right for us to say holy shit are you are you
okay and then here's the here's the part that was eerie for me this is where it got weird and jesse
and i were talking about this before the show there's the videos of him first off they took
the family picture and then there's the videos of him partying afterwards and maybe he and chris
rock made up but what was weird about the partying afterwards is there's dancing but it's just well
and there's just a bunch of people around him taking pictures and and having it on their phones
because they're going to share it on their twitter so they can get a bunch of retweets and
and his instagram story where him and him and jada posted some instagram stories on his account
and he said we chose violence yeah we chose violence and they're giving they're giving
mean mugs to the to the camera and there's on the red carpet you know taking photos afterwards
and i i love hollywood like bojack horseman is one of my favorite shows just because of
the lens they give onto the hollywood culture and everything and this is the only place in
the world where something like this is so surreal and all of these weirdos are together and something
like this can happen everybody just lets an award show go on after a man slapped another man and he
gets a round of applause and you keep talking about it a standing ovation and you give him a
trophy and he gets to talk in front of the crowd it's such an odd place there's nothing on his ig
story right now oh yeah it probably came down yeah well at the end of the day at the end of the day
is it so weird i wonder why i don't think i don't think somebody slaps somebody else and you go the
person who slaps them is totally good things are going well and and i and i so my uh i do feel for
for chris rock for taking the slab i think chris rock needs to take a good old-fashioned look in
the mirror on a joke like that and go dude what are you what are you hoping to accomplish we
like the whole thing about there's a huge debate raging with comedians and jokes that they can tell
and what they can't whatever judd apatow judd apatow could have killed but at the end of the
day sometimes i ask about these jokes that they quote jokes that they tell and i'm like
the usually if the intent is laughter how how much of the audience is going to laugh at that
what's your percentage on that right then there's there's an argument i've heard like like he
literally it's an insult it's just an insult what's a joke and what's an insult this is this
is not me pardoning it or approving of it but comedians need to be able to fuck up they need
to be able to uh and not be slapped for it not every shot is not every shot is going to go in
agreed and not every joke is going to land right and the shots that don't go in are not necessarily
bad shots if that or indicative of how the person is all the time you know oftentimes with social
media it's like bam there's your worst move ever there's the worst moment of your life and it's on
social media and everybody's like that's who that person is and i can tell you from what i saw from
will smith for 35 years before this that's not who will smith is and i would love to know if
everything's okay does that make sense yeah and chris rock isn't one shitty joke no because
comedians should be allowed to make shitty resume a legendary resume of great jokes right
so i don't know it's a it was one of those where jesse and i were bemoaning the fact you used to
be able to just post a bunch of memes and go lol isn't this hilarious but now it's it's far more
it's darker than that well and also nothing's ever allowed to just be a thing that happened
that's over now no no this is like oh this is a moment in time why like even chris rock
took it like a champ and then didn't press charges and it sounds like they made it backstage and like
it's over they're moving on it's over for them it's over and like to anybody that responds is
you never had a friend they got into a fight at a bar and if you haven't i'm like sorry been to a
lot of bars and i've seen a lot of fights i don't know if they went to the same bars as us okay
maybe not they maybe well they must be upper crust then because where we grew up bar fights
happen you ever heard a taser right next to you i have shits loud clears the room quick yeah 100
to me the moment this moment feels a little bit more than something we should move on from like
this moment feels like it's gonna last in time because like if you just outline it how two of
the biggest actors in hollywood uh gone to a slap fight at the oscars it sounds like something that
took place in the 1940s where where ron hamilton slapped lewis mcdougall at the oscar stage and
it sounds like something from a bygone era do we bring up the cfl fight again oh yeah the two
seniors going at it with the canes yeah there was also um someone like apparently john wayne had to
be held back from like uh uh there was a native american woman who basically got up on stage and
asked for equality and that upset him so much that six men had to hold him back well john wayne is
not known as a good person no you know you do a you do a little like like literally skin deep
research on john wayne and it's not good it's not great but my point with that was that this seems
like like a watershed moment because of how uh will smith's actions are so such from a bygone era
where you would literally hit a person to stand up for your woman like it's such an old thing
that it seems like it should have happened 100 years ago but it happened in 2022 and we're going
to talk about this for a long time also like why has everyone forgotten that cardi b attacked
nikki minaj at an award show like less than five years ago did that happen that actually it
absolutely happen except um the uh she didn't connect she accidentally hit herself in the head
oh and there's there's a photo of her with like a giant goose egg no i wasn't on that's the other
thing dude this happened on stage at the oscars on live tv if you read in a variety magazine
this morning that that will smith had slapped chris rock backstage and been like oh that's
kind of crazy and they need to move right but because people saw it on tv yep it's different
and oh it was we all the reaction is fascinating because everyone thought oh that was fake maybe
that was fake and then he said keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth and a bunch of
people were like oh maybe it's serious and then he said he said it again and the second fuck
was from the soles of his feet oh yeah fuck like it came from down there and oh sorry i will get
to hockey it makes you i love it honestly it's like when you're at that i love it because it's
fascinating you ever been to someone else's house for thanksgiving dinner and you don't know the
family dynamics and there's like an aunt and uncle who are just barely hanging on to their marriage
and they get into a fight because they had too much to drink like no i haven't experienced that's
how it felt and i i was just like when i was like i felt like i was at a dinner table like trying to
hide underneath it you know what i mean that's when that second fuck came out man no yeah i don't
have aunts and uncles like that see that's terrible to have sprung on you yes yeah but there are times
where you're like today is going to be a shit show yeah and i'm going to take notes anyway you
know take it or leave it for what it is i just think that you know we're so easily people are
out here condemning one side or the other i think sometimes situations can be fucking shitty and
it's a fucking shitty situation it's terrible you don't have to take sides with every incident no
Jesse, you do. Let this be
the moment you realize, hey,
you don't have to pick a side. Everything can
be true and not true, and it can be a
nuanced conversation. Diddy went backstage
and handed them both a Pepsi, and it's all over.
It's done. Kendall.
Kendall went back. He stole
Kendall's Pepsi, and he gave it to them.
I'm going to take off my sweater. I spilled coffee on it.
Well, nobody's going to tell.
Yeah, it looks fine.
Why are you taking off your sweater?
I would leave it on. Really? Yeah, you can't even tell.
Yeah, but I know.
I know
Leave your clothes on
Yeah it's all good
Jesse I've been hitting the gym
And I'm just looking for any excuse to show my nipples
And you can slap me for that if you want
I won't
I won't because you shouldn't go around slapping people in the face
Oh so you're team Chris then
You also shouldn't make jokes about people's diseases
Well that's weird coming from a guy who's team Chris
Isn't it
Adam I haven't gotten a slap from you
Are you team
That joke was funny
no why not i don't know are you gonna make fun of my asthma prove it
prove it hit me right now no are you team comedian should be able to murder people for jokes
is it a funny murder no comedian should be allowed to commit violence see if chris rock
slapped will smith for a joke then it's okay because he's a comedian and it was just a
didn't land in terms of the ridiculous twitter arguments i was
when adam was talking about the um uh the argument that it was infantilizing jada pinkett
all i could think of was the probably real and has already happened twitter person who's like
oh so you're saying jada pinkett should have slapped chris rock you know yeah and honestly
that was the best first response they should have both i'm sorry it's it's such i'm laughing
because it's it's ridiculous one of the most ridiculous pop culture moments ever yeah if
they're smart they fight on the next uh logan paul fight oh i'd like to see that no okay will
smith should host snl and chris rock comes out of the audience and slaps him that should be what
i want a real boxing match on trailer i mean will is much larger that's not gonna go i don't know
Chris Rock, you can take a punch.
We all saw.
Will Smith versus Logan Paul.
And he works his way up to Jake Paul
because everyone seems to forget
that the one who fought Lloyd Mayweather
hasn't won a match yet.

I get it.
I'm Siaya, and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned
and today I'm still figuring it out
somehow things usually get worse before they get better
apparently that's how I roll
so bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride
don't miss the new season of North of North starting September 8th on CBC Gem
man the Leafs beat the Panthers that was dope
Toronto is now 17-9-3 against teams currently in the playoffs
mm-hmm jeez they play up to their opponents and they play down to their opponents we saw on
saturday and sunday i have to say though the montreal game didn't feel like they were playing
down to their opponents 50 shots yes montreal they're a smart team they understand their
deficiencies and they work within those parameters man well they take advantage of opportunities they
have recently once they got rid of the coach who didn't understand any of it yeah what is their i
want to know their record under st louis it's got to be over 500 it's it's way around 500
their swagger's there it's coffee feels better they're uh they're 31st now oh they also had
the footsteps vez allen in that who has been out since he's come back from injury i think he's
played five games he's been absolutely unbelievable um he's already had a couple 40 save nights and i
think another 39 save night jake allen is unreal right now and they need to protect him at all
cost because if it's allen and price going forward like that's not man i don't know about
price price is uh he's on the road trip the upcoming road is he with the yeah we talked
about on game over on saturday he's gonna take the road trip with the team so who knows i assume
like just to be with them you know because he's uh getting closer yeah okay interesting there you
go i it it had a it had a okay let's actually try vibe to it was you know it was fun to see
Tavares and Gutis you know as much as we
kind of laughed at Gutis it was fun to see them
go head to head he doesn't get enough
credit for his ability to go at
guys Gutis or no John Tavares
yeah no Gutis gets
just about the right credit
just about the
he has an enormous reputation
for being a loose cannon
he gets enough credit
Tavares does not like he
goes into every battle
often comes
out of them successful and never has
anyone stick up for him ever ever Ilya Mikheyev thought about it um there man there have been a
couple moments over the past two games where like Ilya Mikheyev got into the fray thought about
doing something and then was like oh I have a surgically repaired wrist right maybe I shouldn't
you mean the fourth best forward on the Toronto Maple Leafs Ilya Mikheyev
fourth but that that is that is John Tavares then it's Mitch Marner Austin Matthews Ilya Mikheyev
oh mckay was number one you put him at number one absolutely his hands caught up to his feet
well finally that that move that he pulled was the same move he pulled in new jersey
against new jersey where i was there that was the shorthanded goal move that he did i hope it
doesn't turn into um you ever see that meme of a girl going on a first date with a guy
oh he's wearing a nice shirt second date oh that's it's another nice shirt third date well
there's the first shirt again yeah fourth date he has two shirts that's my closet literally my
closet with Ilya Mikheyev it's okay he has forehand backup that's fine yeah that's fine it
works that's he's the fastest player in the universe that's ever played hockey ever he's
incredible here let me let me do this for tiktok you ready okay Ilya Mikheyev is faster than Connor
McDavid the fastest player on earth right now it's faster him versus McDavid is the tortoise in the
hair oh that's true except if the tortoise lost also that's also true in all seriousness for what
mckay brings defensively on the pk and now offensively where he deserves a spot on the
second line over some other player we won't be naming um we'll be naming them soon uh he is
easily become the fourth most important forward on this team he's he's as good now as we expected
him to be heading into the bubble so here's my question then what's the ultimate second line on
the Toronto Maple Leafs look like to you guys right now well at the moment it's what it is
which is JT Kerfoot McHale I mean realistically it's probably McHale JT Willie no why I wonder
if why what what does William Neyland what did he do to deserve to play on the second line I love
this heel turn but you're absolutely right no tell me what's going on with you with what are you guys
seeing with william neilander let's let's expand on that i think it's the yips okay i think it's
the yips or you know you never know what someone's going through but last year you know there was an
undeniable work ethic and effort with william neilander that would take shifts off for sure
but the reason the puck has gone in the net for him so much um over the past few seasons is his
tenacity in front of the net and you know he had the most goals in tight of any player in the nhl
yeah and he's been sniping him in this year he's still getting his cookies i mean 24 goals this
year yeah he was basically lambasted as the guy who ruined the game for them against montreal he
had a goal in that game a power play goal in that game but why is he not second line worthy
because his attention to detail is not there at all like his um you can make mistakes
you can make errors in judgment the david savard goal was pure laziness pure laziness
he didn't forget where he was supposed to be he just didn't try you gotta try you gotta try every
day you're in the nhl you gotta try every day that you make seven million dollars you gotta try
if you're trying to win anything for god's sake the the last place team in the nhl will beat any
team who doesn't try and the first line is so good this is maybe the best the least first line
has ever been i think in its history yeah they got an 11 million dollar second line center who
is obviously fine when he plays with a winger who tries as we saw by the way he was point a game with
a winger who if didn't didn't know well well not didn't try i don't think he's currently not trying
no they were an undeniable duo willie had five goals in seven games in the playoffs last year
he's like he's definitely one of the leafs you can't really point a finger at in terms of that
defeat um had the only goal in game seven two if i recall correct and uh but it's just it has not
been there it has not been there now the third line has been so good that you could put willie
there especially on home ice because you're not as quite as dependent on that third line anymore
um you can spread it out you can tell the Leafs want to spread it out and this is the perfect
excuse yeah and with Kasha out like you have an excuse to even mess it up more and try to have
some trials but and and sorry what one last thing to add Matthew Nye's uh his his uh college team
won yesterday yeah they're they're playing till April 5th which uh uh yeah they're playing well
into April now so instead of simply inserting him into the lineup which I think was the plan
have they lost? He's going to keep
going. So you
have to figure this out internally
before the playoffs because
we're getting closer to the point where
inserting Matthew Nyes isn't going to make any sense.
Right. And if I'm Matthew
Nyes, I'd be like, I'm leaving college now.
Like, are you kidding me?
College or the NHL
in the playoffs? He's about to enter the Frozen Four.
I know. And also he might be a little
sore at the Leafs.
Oh yeah, for trying to trade him?
Yeah, that's possible.
you know what like ultimately this will get solved and he'll end up a leaf by the end of
the season but yeah i don't think he's i don't think he regrets making them sweat and that was
the reason that dubas was pissed at the press conference all right which by the way i think
it was maybe not john davidson that leaked it but we don't know kyle davidson kyle davidson
it's it's not that he leaked a private conversation it's that he leaked a private
conversation that's going to make kyle dubas's life harder right you know yeah because the
leagues always have jess you have something queued up so what makes me so upset about the
willie situation in the back check is what i saw from kerfoot on that play so on the up the ice
angle i was so upset because i saw it on my tv i went back on my ignite tv box by rogers where you
can uh rewind live tv so i went back and i really have to reset that or no it worked did it cost you
$35 a month to reset?
Hey, hey.
Sorry.
$35 a month.
So I went back and I was looking at the Up the Ice replay.
And when Kerfoot's coming down the ice, he's on the side of the puck.
And so is the rest of the team.
It's three forwards.
We know Giordano makes the right play.
We know JT goes in there and makes the right play.
And then Kerfoot takes a second.
As the puck is on this side of the ice, he motions to the other side where Willie should be.
and he points his stick because he knows the winger on that side has to cover that side of
the ice. And I'm jumping to some conclusions here, but I'm guessing he knows the other forward on
the ice is William Nylander and he has to tell him where to be. This isn't a problem. This is
an incident that he knows might happen because of who his winger partner is. He has to go up the ice
and say, okay, there's three guys ahead of me on the left side and I'm coming in as the fourth guy
on that same side. Somebody's got to cover the slot. And that's Kerfoot who plays all three
positions up front on every line. This is a really smart hockey player who knows how to play every
position on the ice, who's telling his winger partner, go to that side, cover the puck because
I know what's going to happen here. And William Nylander didn't do it. His teammate had to go
tell him what to do and william muller didn't listen he lazily glid into the new into the ice
into the neutral zone glid glided it's i knew exactly what you meant but i'm positive it's not
what it is that's the right word he glid into there if i knew what i wanted to be good now
glid you glid like a glizzy you know the hot dogs like glizzy and you know it's it took us a few
seconds to get there but we got there yeah so he glid into the neutral zone and they scored a goal
kerfoot knew what was happening and a and it led directly to a goal so this tells me that his
teammates know who he is the coach knows who he is because he benched him and then the time sunday
he played the least amount of minutes he's played all season everyone's done well but how can you
not be the standard is higher and this is what i keep saying with the leafs like they're a team
worth being hard on you know what i mean like if if your team is in 26 right now what are you
hammering them for they're bad that that's a conversation afterwards you show up you show
them the film you show them the ipad afterwards after the game you say hey don't do this shit
anymore no this is a team where we have to go up against florida or tampa or boston or carolina
in game one of the playoffs and that's how you're gonna play like no and we need home ice against
those monsters so you know and this should be two points so money in the bank so you're saying
the reality is
you guys are saying
you need more from
Willie on the details
yes
100%
100%
and it's like
it's not enough anymore
because he has the talent
Matthews has had a few
flubs as well
yeah
it's worth mentioning
yeah it's worth mentioning
he's such a good player
but
he has been
rock solid defensively
all year
it's hard to criticize
the guy who's gonna score
50 goals
but you can
but you can
like last night
when Willie gave it away
it's because
Matthews made the wrong play
yeah 100%
yeah
no that wasn't
talked about enough i think you're right on math like i i watch everything again before i talk
about it in the lfr and i'm watching that play i'm like what the fuck are you doing when willie
tried to go back around the net and then he got he got it do you just go to tic tac to omar's page
and go here are the key moments of the game no no no i it's i it's either the sports net pack or if
that's not up yet i just go to nhl.com right it was uh no the easy play was just tap it behind
the net to riley and even if you flub it it's behind the net it's not out in front where no
we're really surrounded by three people what are you doing matthews made the wrong play there yeah
100 yeah it's just i think everybody's tired of this shit because you have to win around this year
it's unacceptable to lose again win a cup like no they're trying to win a stanley cup yeah
all the fans are like here's what happens the moment the leafs went around and we all
went to and we all go oh shit this was our stanley cup like i don't want people crying
in the streets and going ballistic when the leafs finally do went around because you know
you're only a quarter of the way there right a quarter you have to win four rounds against
exclusively monsters monsters that's all who is waiting for you when the playoffs begin
who do you want the Leafs to play you want them to play uh Tampa or Florida or the Bruins or if
they drop into the wild card their hurricane they're all monsters every single one of those
scary spooky monsters you know what you never see in any scary movie you know what you never
seeing any like friday the 13th someone just walking around a haunted house going uh you know
could take it or leave it i mean it doesn't matter if i live or die you know it's i'm sure if i wait
till morning and it's light out i'll be fine but you know you don't see any aloof characters in
scary movies who survive you know what there is no room for anyone to take any shift off anybody
none he takes too many shifts off and right now well i think publicly being demoted to the third
line that's got to be the wake-up call they're hoping it it'll be and because it'll take five
or six games of him playing at the level he's capable of to earn that spot and sheldon keith
has been dealing with this shit since 2016 26 marley's coach marley's coach yeah he knows who
willie is unless it could have been one of the most dominant players in that league but it could
But the thing with Willie, and we know this, is that could flip immediately.
That could flip next game.
And here's the thing.
He should be playing center in the National Hockey League.
I'm old enough to remember the 2013.
Yes, he should.
Yes, he's talented enough.
He should be playing center in the National Hockey League.
But he had that privilege taken away from him at a young age because he proved himself to be not responsible enough for the job.
He shouldn't be playing center because he can't do the defensive responsibilities that a center needs to do.
but he did some growing up and turned into an elite winger unreal winger but then there's been
this like he had so much success on the right i don't understand why he's on the left now
like i i supposedly he wanted it for i never know about those things because i i figure like oh
you're an nhl you can play on any side but i guess it's so nuanced i think it's a game it's a
comfort level you know yeah and like i i just don't under he did so well on the right for so
long why is he on the left right stop that okay like when does that experiment end like we saw
the um willy at center experiment like we we have a we know the moment that died they tried it in
the playoffs it didn't work and they said all right close the book never again when is this
done i think kasha can play the left yeah i think kasha do i think you're right i think can play the
left let him do it adam he's got more guys to listen no no yeah no no go ahead do you have
anymore go ahead so what so what i'm thinking here is is first off sometimes you know people
ask you to get it going and you can't wake up you can't get it going until your circumstances
change putting them on the third line changes the circumstance the other thing is i'm old enough to
remember and you're old enough to remember and you're old enough to remember the 2013 playoffs
you're old enough to remember the third line experiment that turned into something pretty
great for the Leafs at that time which is Kadri and Lupo and they were for the Leafs in that
regular season you know the first two lines were okay but that was a great third line and they
dominated and I would love to see the Toronto Maple Leafs with like that Tavares line with
Mikheyev and Kerfoot is going to be the most defensively responsible offensive threat in the
NHL those three together hopefully they can do a lot of dangerous shit but they they can also shut
you down they can't and you've already got comp and you've got engvall who's played a lot better
imagine a little bit of scoring punch on that third one if willie can turn it around
who's to say and and it's like and i say turn it around facetiously because look at this
i mean the guy has he's still putting up points offensively he scored 59 points in 65 games he's
no this is not a joke this is the second most goals he's had in his entire career the most
being 31 two years ago so it's not like that's that but if he is able to kind of turn it around
and make it work with the third line that potentially lets the leaf roll three lines
again which is what they were trying to do when they brought in uh tavaris so it would be tavaris
uh matthews cadre and and i think it'd be kind of neat to see that again i want to move us forward
though because we don't have all the time in the world right now okay i want to move us forward to
the fourth line team willie you tweet off everybody's rooting for me it's just it's not
as it's just not good enough it's okay the the added bonus of this whole situation might be that
they figure out that they now have three lines they can roll with willie on the third like that
just might be the future yeah and i think i think that's the the key here um now the fourth line and
steve you tweeted something to the effect of i'm all for nostalgia but i think it's time we consider
having a fourth line that's playable yeah my love of nostalgia is quickly losing its battle to my
love of a playable fourth line and i think we've i've sort of mentioned it before you've sort of
mentioned it before for the minutes they do get i mean they got pinned a couple times last night
it was bad yeah um spets has been better defensively i think with the leafs than he
has in any other time in his career but i'm i'm and i hate saying this because i love wayne
but i'm wondering what exactly are you doing now it's and it's not an effort thing it's not an
effort it's a guy trying his absolute hardest and it's not working so is it wayne's fault or is it
the goals they've set out for wayne that's their fault because if if you know i think it's the fault
of the national hockey league being really goddamn good is that what it is i don't think this is the
fourth line we see in the playoff i think not a chance you better start figure that out i think
he's playing these guys out because he's trying to save the other bodies for the playoffs well
I think we see Clifford in there, and then when Kasha comes back,
he's going to move someone from the third line down
because Kasha deserves that spot.
And then we have Blackwell and Spezza.
Yeah, like Blackwell has played so well that you're like,
oh, that's an NHL fourth liner.
Yeah.
It's a guy who should, well, if Mikheyev wasn't so good right now,
I would say maybe give Blackwell a shot up on the second line just to see.
I mean, it's not like he needs to drive play.
with Tavares and Willie.
I really liked Wayne in the Montreal series.
He was great.
And I don't,
and maybe we see that again,
this,
whatever the playoff series is.
Yeah.
Like it seems very obvious that I think Wayne more than Spezza,
but both of them,
if we're being honest,
they both,
if they're going to be optimal in the playoffs,
they need,
they need rest.
They need rest.
The only thing that hurts me,
is that Spezza's too useful
on the PK.
Which Ottawa and
Dallas fans are like, what do you mean
he's useful on the PK?
And on the second power play.
They also use him on the second power play
for a shot, which is very effective.
Can I be a dick?
What? You can use anybody on the
second power play. But he trusts Spezza
and he likes Spezza there. Okay, great. I think
Spezza is on that fourth line come the playoffs.
I think Simmons is out for somebody else.
And then Blackwell gets the other spot.
i really i think i think uh keith is doing something where he's letting simmons play out
the season you know and then when push comes to shove just as we saw with keith yandel with
florida last year if you guys remember that they let him play out his iron man streak so it kept
going it's still going and then when the playoffs came they helped he scratched him because they
said the chips are on the table and we'd actually don't want to play this guy which i like there
should am i being a dick by saying there should be an asterisk on that streak there were games
he was eligible to play that they didn't let him play it's a regular season uh okay okay well let
it be known it's just regular it everybody knows okay we know we know what happened i think the
fourth line andrew nize is the wild card here or andrew nize god i keep calling him andrew nye
i used to work at sportsnet with someone named andrew nye and i've known him for a lot longer
than i've known matthew nize so i'm gonna keep making that mistake anyway um i think when matthew
nize comes in it's a different conversation but i think the fourth line ends up being
kerfoot on the left potentially or at center blackwell at center and uh spets on the right
why do you have kerfoot on the fourth line because you can like it's not a demotion for
him is that you can put him there mckay of jt kasha uh it's i i like what daily face-off has
i think when the playoffs start it'll probably be mckay of uh tavaris willie and then or no sorry
it's kerfoot tavaris willie no no no sorry kasha tavaris willie is what i have okay third line
stays intact mckay of camp engvall engvall is another guy who switched wings this year and
has been pretty good doing it um and kerfoot's still gonna like he's gonna play lots he's on pp2
he's a really key part of their penalty kill we'll see plenty of him we will not be like oh
where's kerf like he's gonna play and there'll be a the thing with tampa is you would you would
look at their third and fourth line over the past few years in the playoffs and you'd go jesus how
do you have those players down there and i look at a fourth line that has kerfoot on it and i'm
like geez that's cool it is cool the leafs in their you know biggest underdog performance
against the washington capitals were they didn't have the high-end talent that the caps had but
they were deeper it was kind of nuts they were deeper up front and uh if they can find a way
they're they're getting so much out of everyone and this is why the situation is so desperate
with willie you can't have shit because everybody else is bringing it we're dude we're gonna get
like a double digit goal season out of david camp can you fucking pick it up like we got up we've
got 11 goals out of pierre engvall we've got mckay of scoring at like a 30 goal pace yeah michael
bunting might win the goddamn calder matthews might score 60 marner's playing the best hockey
his career blackwell's come in and he's been great and it's just like if your fourth line is
your biggest problem then correct correct your fourth line should always be your biggest problem
on account of it's your fourth line it's the fourth best too many leafs are playing too well
kasha who's not even in the lineup too many leafs are playing too well for anyone to be taken any
time off everything you just yelled about is the reason we all shit our diapers for marazic
we were this team is too good to have a goalie like that is too good for for campbell to play
at an 894 save percentage like everything you just said is the reason they need just at least
solid goaltending just competent goaltending and he's allowed two goals in each of his last two
games both of which he won because wow because if you allow uh just two goals as the leaves goalie
you win probably win yeah and he still slides all over the ice he does but yes yesterday on both
purpose this time he did was that there were a couple times where he went on a little adventure
but both goals i thought he was a little deep in his net but i would rather him have that
over correction than the i don't even know what to call his he did not have a style
in the games classic leading up to like what the it was that ice is supposed to be dog shit
It was snowing that day, and you were still finding ways to slide around.
There was no friction in the world.
It's like when somebody tries to play EA NHL 22 for the first time and plays goalie.
Like all over the fucking place.
I really thought, I told you against Jersey, the crowd was, like, the barn was rocking.
It was loud.
And they were loud last night, too.
And everybody was honestly and earnestly rooting on Peter.
you saw the peter chance even on tv last night so it's nice to see that's they're not bronx
cheering the guy it's like come on we want you to succeed um the other question i had last night was
wasn't jack campbell supposed to be out two weeks four weeks ago no no it's just coming up on uh
two weeks is it yeah it was two weeks on uh friday or thursday because we got the announcement
two thursdays ago you're asking me to manage my concept of time yeah a week after the trade
deadline okay so it's been two weeks and like three days okay yeah okay now they have a real
interesting decision to make tomorrow because they play the bruins who's who's in net who do
you put in net for that that's a good question i think uh maybe go back to morassic i think my
opinion has changed uh because like listen all things equal you have to play morassic over
shelgrin yeah if shelgrin is better you play shelgrin um but right now after his last two
games i think you kind of got to give it back to marazic because realistically playoff start it's
going to be jack and marazic before i forget you mentioned matthew nye's fitting in the lineup
when he eventually finishes playing andrew andrew andrew nye sports update uh jeff ducharme jeff
ducharme the fan 590 where does abrazazi fit in the lineup well it could be what i just said
except it's Kerfoot Blackwell
Abruzzese. I think he's
an extra body
you know
you have Abruzzese so you don't have to go out
and make some
dumbass trade for
I can't wait to see to try
can't wait to see them try to fit Abruzzese
on one jersey
it's a lot of letters
there's a couple of baseball players that have
hyphenated names and like one of them literally
is a full semicircle on his back
well there's nothing wrong
it's just a long last name that's it sure is i i wouldn't put him in the top 12 but we also
haven't seen him play a professional game yet for both of you are you concerned or uh do you have
any apprehension to bringing in guys who have never played with this team who have never played
in the national hockey league and be like all right we're going on a playoff run you're in
there i think you got it literally got montreal to the final last yeah i think i think i mean i
They're the same, by the way.
Jesse, I agree with you.
It's not optimal, but I also think you've got to do what you've got to do.
And hockey, especially higher-end skill hockey players,
they should be able to figure it out for a couple of games, right?
Do you expect them to be high-leverage situations where you're up 2-1
and it's shorthanded and it's right at the end of the third?
No, probably not.
But I feel like if I want to put Matthew Nyes out in an offensive situation,
I should be able to do that.
Totally.
You know, that's just...
But what I've never understood is, okay, we have a fourth line.
Their job is to shut down other teams.
Let's put a young, highly skilled player on the shutdown line.
That I've never got.
I can understand putting a Matthew Nyes on the third or the second or the first line
because you need to fill a gap.
I don't understand.
It's like, wow, this is our defensive line.
Nick Robertson on the fourth line stuff never made sense.
Doesn't make sense.
The fourth line needs an identity.
You got to be a pain in the ass.
uh and like is that the best spot for a college kid i don't know i don't know i think you got a
goal yesterday you gotta do what you gotta do right it's like it was just like you remember
when capitan was playing fourth line minutes with dan dan poil no brian brian boyle set him up to
win it was uh but it was like matt martin brian boyle and kisperi capitan that was the line
was on the ice for that goal too bizarre yeah bizarro world um so with that uh guys listen
I'm not sure if you saw the Calgary Flames game last night
9-5 they won
And the sea of red chants were
We want 10
And that's against the Edmonton Oilers
Pittsburgh got it
Pittsburgh did get it
They got 11 didn't they
They sure did
Oh Detroit is very fun
Somebody from Detroit messaged me
And by the way Detroit fans have been really good about the Mo Cider stuff
They were really funny
But one of the other things we've been talking about with Detroit
How bad Cider is
how bad Sider is and how he doesn't deserve to be called
Nedeljkovic and they said
they tweeted me and they're like listen
he's actually been good well he's been good recently
and the reason he was bad is that every time he's
not in net he has to go
back in net
because Grice has been terrible
right so yeah I mean
he's a young kid that shit happens
that's tough but did you see
Dry Sider had like
statistically one of the worst hat tricks of all time
no yeah because they were
all on the power play were they not he was like minus four yeah i don't know if they were on the
yeah he had three goals one assist was a minus four which what are the what are the odds well
i mean they're not great defensively those two oh i i don't even know if like any of them were
his fault it's just the mathematical odds of throwing up a four point night in a hat trick
and ending up a minus four i saw someone i think it was uh cammy called it the the productive
lebda brett lebda who famously was a minus three for the leafs in a 9-3 win yeah leon had two
power play goals one power play assist so uh that was out of his three goals and one assist he was
a minus four five shots in 19 minutes so one of his points was even strength yeah so he was on
the ice for five goals and before we get to the press conference here one more thing uh phil
Kessel passed Doug Jarvis second
on the NHL's Ironman
list. Jarvis held the record for 36
years until Keith Yandel broke it in
January. To date, Yandel has
played 987 consecutive games.
Kessel has
played 965,
and I would imagine that Yandel's probably
done at the end of this year. So all
Kessel has to do is suit up for 20 more.
I think he probably wants to get to that round
1,000. Oh, yeah. Like that
round 1,000 number. But if it was Mike
Babcock, that's his coach, he'll get to
999.
No.
Let's get into the press conference.

he is he's watching us while he's getting ready for his twitch stream thank you for posting and
using the hashtag sdpn fan friday you have received a 50 gift card to the sdpn shop
sdpnshop.ca if you want to get your sdpn merch we're giving a gift card to a bruins fan makes
me sick makes me sick um by the way you need to check it out because first off he's got a pretty
sick collection of jerseys like old western conference jerseys and old eastern ones uh he's
always wearing hockey jerseys in it but he's got a really sick you know hot for teacher right the
drum the kick drum he does it and nails it to the beat like very very few drummers can do that
and do it well he nails it and i was like holy shit this is amazing anyway you should check that
out that's what happens when we creep our listeners who are drummers sorry matt congratulations i'm
now up to two what your dad drummers that i creep oh you and your dad yes and and matt zappa my dad
of atomic tomb check him out on spotify he's gonna love that shout out this is from a a underscore
reggie adam and jesse if you had to hire an f1 team principal to be an nhl general manager or
coach who would you pick max and then and then let's do it in reverse did you really this is
one of them right no you did no i'm making that up he's making fun that's his go sports ball moment
and then let's do it in reverse where we got to put someone in the nhl to head up a
team okay so steiner is fun uh and he manages well with it like a small market team right so
i like him he'd be he'd be good at dealing with um crazy owners yeah uh mazapin's dad
mazapin's dad's nuts you know or he's just rich so i don't know if you're nuts or you're just rich
both
so if he had to deal with
like James Dolan like we know he could run
the Rangers yeah
yeah I think
I mean I think if you're talking about a big market
club Total Wolf's the perfect guy
because nothing phases
him and he's a billionaire so
he doesn't care but I think that
if we're doing small market I think Gunther
Steiner's the guy because he's like
he basically did what the Leafs did right
they tanked for a year didn't score a single point
and the last two races they've been top 10
oh because they put all their money into development for this car uh stupid schumacher
had to not not make the race killing me on grid rival yeah killing me mercedes okay i went all
mercedes engines on my fucking grid rival except for haas which are ferrari powered and i'm so
upset because i'm just getting slaughtered the mercedes engine sucks this year oh i'm in two
grid rival leads and i have land i have mclaren and both idiot and my team's locked until uh i
I think I locked McLaren down for like five races.
I'm going to get killed.
Anyway.
McLaren does it.
It's bad.
It's bad.
They're awful.
Lando had some pace last weekend, but.
Oh, God.
I feel bad for Lewis.
I was a Lewis fan.
Well, yeah.
I mean, George Russell was able to.
I think.
I also think.
Don't underestimate the fact that.
I don't know if you know this, Steve.
But in Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, where this race happened.
First off, it's a scary track and kind of dangerous.
Number two.
Right before they were due to practice on Friday.
um there was drone strikes against an oil refinery like 10 6 miles yeah literally like 15 kilometers
down the road there's a war going on i saw the fire i didn't know there was drone strikes they're
drone shots yeah so and there are i think there are iranian-backed yemeni rebels or and i don't
know to be honest with you i don't know anything about the political situation between the saudis
and and the yemeni rebels but to be honest with you like i i mean lewis said it in the weekend
And I think they're having a meeting today about it.
I think the drivers are like, we should not have been racing.
I mean, we should have got us out of there.
Kind of sounds like they're racing in a war zone and they should maybe not be.
So on, I think it was the Friday, they all had the conversation about, hey, we should
actually just walk out and not do the race.
And then I don't know who convinced them.
Money.
Yeah.
And it wasn't, it wasn't the, the drivers don't have a choice.
Right.
We'll see what happens next year with it.
But obviously there's a ton of money in it.
I think they have an excuse to move away from it now because they're bringing in Las Vegas.
And in the Las Vegas report where they're announcing there's an F1 race coming to Las Vegas in 2023,
there's also plans to bring one to New York.
It went very under the radar, but it was in the exact same report.
So there should be three F1 races in America coming in 2023.
Slowest Grand Prix of all time.
Yeah, they're going to do...
Brooklyn Street Bridge at 5 o'clock.
They're going to do Times Square.
And they're not...
No.
that'd be cool they're not moving traffic they're just gonna do they're gonna put all the taxis
there and everybody's just gonna find their way through it's gonna take four hours yeah
anyways they're gonna find a spot in new york for uh that race i actually have the camera on
adam's a lot of that my bad for anybody watching on youtube so this last question you're welcome
comes from bonesy and i think it's a very fun question because steve going back many years
me know and steve has a a thing about his jacket and in terms of he doesn't want to be responsible
for his jacket so sometimes he'll leave it what let me ask the question okay hey boys went to the
panthers leafs game last night amazing game oh i know exactly what he's talking about yep when you
go to a game what do you do with your jacket do you fold it up and put it on your lap smush it
down behind you very annoying and i've learned from my good buddy steve dangle that sometimes
you just leave your jacket because you don't want to have to be responsible for your jacket
so 1a uh do you bring a jacket 1b what do you do with it if you do bring it adam and steve
well if you do bring it you just sit on it and smush it under your warm ass for two and a half
hours and uh you know hopefully you don't fart during that entire time oh but you do fart yeah
you know and and you just leave it and hopefully 20 000 people just leave it alone and uh or
like i'm coming from oshawa which is far but i'm not walking no you're you're in the train
you're in the station and then you're yeah i'm either taking the train that literally goes into
the building where the arena is or i'm driving and i've got like a short five minute walk ahead
of me that even if it's minus 20 out i can deal with it right i'll go inside i'll get something
hot and i'll even though it's an arena and i'll be fine i don't want to be responsible for my
jackets there is no coat check at a hockey game and i just want to i'll wear my jersey go let's
go do you bring your jacket with you when you go to concessions or when you go to the washroom
or do you leave it on your seat you trust the people of scotia bank arena you have to because
if you're i'm going to get food there's left hand and i'm going to get beer that's right hand
don't put your jacket on my phone rings i'm fucked i think uh why he is to be hot in line
the key is to uh is to go with someone and let them watch it all right also i prefer not to
bring a jacket as well but i had to against jersey last week and so but here's the smart
that's so weird because you drive around in a t-shirt i know yeah you're you're i'm always
sweaty man adam i remember once it was like minus 25 adam gave me a ride somewhere and
he was just wearing like just a white v-neck i was just really hot and i'm there like the
michelin man and adam's in a white v-neck i'm like and you're like oh so you brought your
jacket to the i did i did um because i because here's the thing when you live close you tend
to walk more yeah that makes sense so i uh uh yeah so i brought it and you know i had to sit
on it and i hated it um so my preference is if it's even slightly above zero i am jumping in an
uber or whatever because public transit doesn't exactly take me downtown easily from where i live
believe it or not um so i take i jump in the uber and i gotta get as close as i can and then i kind
of try to run in to the big gate and and go from there but yeah i i hate having a jacket at the
but one thing i will tell you is when you go to the if you if you can if you can do it and
my company gave me a percentage off my tickets you can buy them through bell and they
which is nice so i was i was able to with my budget i was able to reach down into the lower
bowl and sit there and uh i sat at the highest rung of the lower bowl which in my opinion is
always the best seats in the house because you can see the whole ice surface definitely highest rung
low lower bowl always your best chance at a hockey game and i sat right underneath unintentionally
under the hot stove lounge which is a big bar and restaurant so it was so cool about that was
i got to sneak off and go to the bathroom and like grab a double vodka soda a couple of times
vodka soda and i did it in less than five minutes so i'd have to worry about my jacket because come
on who's gonna steal something in five minutes come on come on i think the one of the smarter
decisions is when you do the the hoodie and crew neck under your jersey and then you throw the
jersey over your big michelin man no no winter jacket under jersey no take a photo post it online
friends ridicule you for years sonnet insurance you become a laughing stock for a decade
anyway if i knew the shit you were gonna give me i would ask for double
what really yeah no not really it was like they were actually very nice i wish they would call
me back it was nice working with him i believe in sonnet insurance i also like jason spetz's horse
legs very funny steve can you name all leafs goalies who played in a playoff game from 2000
to now that's not that hard only eight leafs goalies have played in playoff games since the
year 2000 can you name them all this is from tyler g94 well jack campbell and jack campbell
only last year frederick anderson curtis mcculaney because freddy got pulled and we were there
um yeah that was fun uh james reimer yep did scrivens get into a game that series i don't
think he did i don't think he did i think you got kujo belfort trevor kidd as well i feel like
trevor kidd got into one didn't he well belfort for sure wait since 2000 yeah yeah kujo then uh
Trevor Kidd, Tom Barrasso.
I think are the other two.
See, they played against Tom Barrasso.
I know, but they had him as the backup too.
In like 04.
Oh, shit.
Before.
Was it pre-Belfort they had him as the backup?
I don't know.
Oh, man, I don't know.
All right, submit your last two entries.
So it's eight?
Okay, wait.
Let's do that again.
Reimer.
Campbell.
Anderson.
McElhinney.
Yeah.
God.
Wait, okay.
Reimer, Campbell, Anderson, McElhinney, Kujo, Belfort.
And then it's got to be one of the backups from those years.
Damien Rhodes was too long ago.
Well, it was Damien Rhodes and then it was Glenn Healy.
But Glenn Healy, I don't ever think saw playoff action.
And I think he was gone by 2000.
I don't think he made it into the new Millennium team.
Do you want to hint?
I am going to say one of them is Corey Schwab.
Oh!
Yes, because Cujo, I think, had an injury one year.
Yeah, that's a good point.
Good point.
And he was pretty good.
One more guy.
I think maybe it wasn't Trevor Kidd or Tom Brasso.
I think you're right with Trevor Kidd.
We'll see.
Who is it?
Curtis Joseph, Frederick Anderson, Ed Belfort, James Reimer, Jack Campbell, Curtis McElhinney.
Those are the easy ones.
The top six.
You all got the last two.
You submitted Trevor Kidd and Corey Schwab.
Those two names would be correct.
Hey!
Wow!
Let's go!
Tom Barasa never got in, huh?
No.
I do remember them getting him.
Corey Schwab, what a pick.
I was very worried you were ignoring Adam being so adamant about Trevor Kidd.
I was worried you were going to ignore that.
And then the Tom Barasa thing.
I was worried that you wouldn't think of Corey Schwab.
But you guys did it!
Oh, man.
Congratulations!
Well done!
Corey Schwab.
because the Leafs were built around Curtis Joseph,
and then he wasn't there for like a month.
It was an alarming amount of time.
Corey Schwab only played 12 minutes in the playoffs.
Oh, really?
Yes.
Oh, what a lucky guess that was.
Curtis McElhinney only played 47 minutes.
Trevor Kidd played 33 minutes.
Curtis Joseph, 43 games.
Anderson, 25.
Belfort, 20.
Reimer, 7.
Campbell, 7.
Curtis Joseph played 43 playoff games.
Since 2000.
since 2000 might he has a chance to get into a couple more this year they used to be good
they could bring them back they could yeah they could they absolutely could the number could keep
going gory schwab yes all right thank you uh tyler g94 for that awesome question that's a great
question you got me with trevor kid i might have gone barrasso i don't know yeah honestly really
good that's good that's good i just remember being like because he was he would always appear
in rock'em sock'em and i was like well it's trevor kid and then i was like oh he's actually not that
checkered pads and the flavors yes oh gross i forgot it's delicious
