Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life?
You know, the same way you can skip an ad?
I get it.
I'm Siyaya and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned.
And today I'm still figuring it out.
Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Apparently, that's how I roll.
So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride.
Don't miss the new season of North of North starting September 8th on CBC Gem.
all right so we got a couple of big big announcements big announcements first off
we've been talking about this for weeks so i have an announcement first and then a grand reveal
okay greta oh yes greta bar here in toronto it's no just credit credit in toronto sorry uh
gretta's on king climate change wednesday october 9th that's right the date is the 9th not the 8th
the 9th bar games dancing cocktails steve dangle book autograph bridgerton before anyone else yeah
no it will be a better event than the bridgerton and detroit event and by the way if you don't
know what we're talking about sign up for vip so you can oh you guys you know what nobody's
listening right now let's scam people oh yeah uh by the way ticket sales are live as this moment
and you can obviously go to um uh just go to the description you can click and buy and whatever
and by the way if you get the vip sitting dinner package which most people are uh you get dinner
included with it uh and you get every ticket gets a chili ones which is tyson berry's beer
just signed with the calgary flames he did and a ten dollar game card and trust me you'll need it
uh we played a ton of the games already it's there's a lot of games my favorite one is in
the basement it is the actual nhl licensed bubble hockey game and it has we believe rick
jennerette's voice on it a hundred percent it felt like yeah and it was so it was cool to play and
then when you score the there's like a little jumbotron in it and like you they try like they
show you a replay it's so sick but when you get scored on there's a screen that flashes bad at
hockey you freaking stink go home yeah uh so there's lots of that and uh by the way it is a
leafs bubble hockey uh thing so that's very very cool um and steve will be not only selling his
book there before anybody else can buy it before release like what's the actual release day six
days i think so the event is october 9th the release day is october 15th that's pretty cool
yeah yeah so like like six days early and it's not like a video game where they're like oh we're
to release five patches yeah no yeah no and steve's better than some of these video game
companies because you're also not charging more yeah you know in order to get like the early game
access you need to pay like the 130 video game price when it's the 80 video game yeah you're
not doing that no there's no patches all the mistakes that made it in are just gonna stay there
yeah oops but if you're like it's like a first edition of a first edition if you're at this
parting these are the first books we're so in the thick of it i went to a bookstore yesterday
because i'm conceited and i wanted to see if they have the book so they don't because last time
your book it was released like three weeks early people just started tweeting me like hey your
books in stores i'm like pardon yeah because when when these companies just get the stock
they just throw it on the shelf right i was the several hundred person to find out there's no
point in having the boxes just stacked in the back waiting for steve dangle's big release day
yeah no there are i don't know if you're like billy eilish no no i didn't need to hold back
the cds they do that though they do just maybe not with me not for steve dangle
so the story i spoke to said the books are in transit yeah oh i hope none of them fall off
the bus and then get put on the black market the bus fall off the bus the truck i hope no one
steals one off myrtle's doorstep again did you leave it on no he ordered my book last time
And someone porch pirated it.
Oh, man.
They must have been so disappointed.
I know.
What am I going to do?
What am I going to do with this?
Oh, man.
This must be like PS5 games.
Nope.
Nope.
So anyway, Greta's on King.
And by the way, that night, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens happened to be playing.
It's a sports bar along with an arcade bar.
So you'll be able to watch it with us.
And Steve's doing the LFR either inside the venue or outside of it.
I believe inside of it.
Right after.
I am.
so it's you know like you're gonna be there for the lfr recording if you want to be and it's not
even the only book date can i announce no other ones i can't why not of course you can oh we got
other stuff we got to do it's a bit too crazy okay here's what we got so far and i posted this
all over my social media or whatever i'm sure you'll remember this get a pen we can link to it
so greta obviously october 9th 6 p.m new market this is the first uh in-store signing i'm doing
at chapters in new market, October 15th, 7 PM. That's the day the book comes out. The Matt Sundin
event at the hockey hall of fame. I'm going to be moderating a discussion with him on stage for an
hour. I'm so scared. October 21st, 6 PM North London, November 3rd at 2 PM. That is at Indigo
North London, North London. Uh, very important to distinguish it from South London, which I was
going to do. And then we had to move around the schedule and then I couldn't do it. So North
london ajax around the corner november 10th at 2 p.m chapters you know the one right next to the
starbucks like i think the vast majority of chapters and uh kitchener central library
november 14th 7 p.m i'm going to be doing an event with craig custins for him and me as well and me
and adam will be on stage uh you have a book no i have no you technically have a percentage of my
book like you wrote you wrote like a little percentage so this is my book it is okay so
so you gotta so we're sharing out the shit okay oh okay come on man i'm gonna be hosting the
craig custin's steve dangle fight yeah it's gonna be a bare knuckle brawl in kitchener uh which is
gonna be great steve craig get your bets in now yeah more like craig bust his jaw that's right
what i'm gonna do uh those are the only dates we have booked we are working on many more so
missing out on the uh the west end of the gta yeah yeah we're on it we're just making sure you know
how steve feels about traffic that too he's like what am i like i see there's four events in ajax
but none out in the west you're gonna make me go all the way to pickering
i don't know no i don't know my god no i'm not crossing young street um hey so so let me just
say let me just say uh we have this and then i promised you a reveal and this has been out on
our social media before but steve will you please pull up the youtube's steve dangle collectible
doll there you go let's get a iso shot of that yay so uh basically for everybody listening what
is that it's a it's a plushie with steve and a dog who's the dog steve it's iggy and he's wearing a
little sdpn scarf you got me in what appears to be uh an sdpn jersey yes number 20 it's on the back
there's uh there's my bum there's my little bum there's my hair yeah you can scruff it up and it's
just adorable and i think it's the perfect huggable size here let me try oh jesse you try
you oh very nice yeah it's very huggable it's very huggable now this is our first adam our
first shut up plushie hug it it's very um it's a snuggle it it's a substantial plushie like it's
not adam how do i get my hands on one of those click on the link now they go on sale officially
october 11th at 3 p.m oh and that is important there will be a two-week sales window they're
only sold for two weeks and then they're going to put them into production and it's going to
take a few months listen we're a small company they're a small company give us a break yeah
they're making them on demand we don't have a bunch of these in stock we're making them after
you order them we'll start making yours on amazon shockingly enough if you're ordering them for
christmas it better be 2025 yeah because yeah they won't be ready this year they won't be they
won't arrive till a little bit later they're gonna arrive probably late february march like that is
how long we're talking yeah late february march yeah but at least we're telling you before you
buy it yeah but uh why are you so worried about that what because it's that's we're selling
something in october and i want to make sure people aren't like what the fuck you don't think
people have pre-ordered stuff before i don't know this is you're pre-ordering the i'm the you twos
i'm pre like you know it's like pre-arguing but i'm just um catering right i'm just what i would
say everyone to be happy i i understand that that's impossible and no and we are a small
company and these guys are a great company and they're smaller too and so they're putting these
together for for you so they will be delivered february march uh 2025 the steve dangle uh and
iggy plushie goes on sale october 11th but it's so cute but we have three of these to give away
um so you have to check out our social media follow at sdpn sports on all platforms instagram
tiktok twitter yeah and we will be giving giving three one the one inquiry because some people saw
the teases online uh before we made the announcement today once you take it home you can
do whatever you want with it oh jesus i'm just gonna tell you that just once once you purchase
it it's yours that means you can put we don't we don't no we don't come to your house and tell you
what you can do with your plushies that's all i want to say leave it there the last thing i want
to say before we get to hockey stuff well this is all hockey stuff but hockey news is that julian
mckenzie of sdpn and the athletic has gotten a huge promotion and he will now be moving i don't
how do you call you can't call it a promotion is it like a it's a big move in his career uh he gets
to move back to the time zone he is most accustomed that's right and i think there's there's also a
move up in his career i don't know how it all works in journalism but i just wanted to say a
Big congratulations, Julian McKenzie, who is now the Ottawa Senators beat reporter for the Athletic.
And this means, and this is my selfie.
Yay.
Yay.
Good, good, good work, everybody at Athletic Management, because now we can finally do some CJ Show Lives.
This means, well, CJ Show Lives, and also Julian doesn't have to get up at like 6 in the morning to record the CJ Show.
People are like, why is his voice so deep, and why does he sound like he just woke up?
Because he woke up 15 minutes ago.
yeah yeah it's it's pretty amazing when he's done so anyway congratulations julian we love you
and uh we're so excited to have you here i believe julian is moving this weekend
uh because you know yesterday i think yeah because today or today why do this in august
when you can do it on the day that the season starts it's welcome to working in hockey yeah
that's right nothing happens when you want it to um but we do have nhl games today are you doing
the other network announcement about a show oh do you want to talk oh do you want to do okay i was
wondering if we we had done too much preamble but oh the sad one i feel like the sad one the sad one
jesse why don't you take this one uh basu and godan is leaving us yes and they're not through
our own decision we didn't drive them away no a lot of animosity and hostility and we will never
forgive them you know what you know what it was it was line a and power that's when they were like
we've had enough with you they're like jack i did nothing wrong and we're like get the hell out of
So if you're a fan of the Basu and Godin notebook, their last episode on STPN is out right now.
It should be available for you to listen or watch.
And because of what to be so, yeah, it'll be out by the time you're hearing the show, which will be after when their show is released.
But because of of Mark Antoine status as a journalist with Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, he can no longer work under our brand.
and unfortunately they're gonna have to go with their show through a subscription model so it's
still gonna be available just not on our platform anymore yeah and if you want to subscribe to their
show if you want to continue listening they have all of that information at the top of their
episode so go subscribe it's a fantastic show that we want to keep here but we can't we're and
it sucks so uh go subscribe if you're a fan of that it's also it's been disappointing because
a lot of people have been reaching out over the last few weeks like when's bastion go dance
starting up hey there's a lot of news and i'm like i can't tell you yeah and you're not gonna
like it you want to leave it for them to explain it yeah it's not in our position to jump ahead
and be like hey this is why you're not hearing any episodes from them so this is why um their
episodes out and they'll clarify everything in the show and we wish them like we hope this takes
off and hopefully we can bring them back one day or this is just super successful for them i think
we just need to get in touch with the cbc and tell them to change the policies yeah it's a
ridiculous policy um and i'll just go ahead and say it we love them i i really i really wish this
policy was not preventing this i saw adam on a bridge with a canadian flag the other day he was
driving his truck right up there that's right and i said defund yeah what do i want defunded i'm not
going to tell you i'm not going to defund um and people were like and then they rear-ended the car
in front of them it's crazy they weren't looking it's crazy yeah i said defund insurance and before
we move on adam you have an announcement thank you no i just wanted to no no we've announced
like 40 things yeah i know i wanted to there's a lot going on there's a lot going on by the time
you're listening to this as well the first hockey game of the season would have been played that's
right we have nhl games today kicking it off with the lindy rough bull new jersey and buffalo today
at one o'clock that's pretty great yeah and tomorrow morning they'll play at 10 a.m it's
me fun you guys aren't excited i'm so jacked no no no it's really cool it's just sometimes okay
no no no wait let me explain let me explain he's gonna go no no no he hates buffalo and he
he hates czechia the entire country no no that's i'm learning how dare you yeah you're learning
their language to tell them how much you hate them so uh i love talking to my wife about hockey
things because she doesn't care she's not inside baseball she is not too close to the painting she
actively avoids the painting and i she's she's watching tv this morning she goes the nhl season
starts today and i go yeah and she's doing the math because she knows when the leafs first game
is because that affects our lives and she's like that doesn't make any sense and i'm like well now
that you when you put it that way the nhl season starting like five days before most other teams
is a little odd but it's but there's hockey on today and that's all i care about and it's on at
10 and it's a great time it's a very interesting time you can watch hockey at work and your boss
can't even say anything because it's the first game and also what are you stupid stupid boss
you want to be the boss everyone hates shut up i think it is a lovely thing it's just not everyone
is so convinced and that's all i wanted to say adam your announcement uh the i don't have an
announcement i just wanted to say that the global series is happening uh we also have so in czechia
it is the like i said the lindy roughball new jersey buffalo and then in um finland
which is uh later on this season that will be the first and second of november
uh it will be i'm trying to find a connection between these two teams
florida and dallas what bowl will that what are you struggling uh i'm trying to shoot
the games in finland yeah the games in finland those teams have like it's in their contracts
that they have half the league's fins they do yeah dallas is the team finland built
except they lost yanni hockenpah and they're very sad about it and uh sasha barkoff is on
the florida panthers okay so there you go oh and is forsling swedish or finnish doesn't matter
okay all right you asked the question i answered it still trying to make it a bowl game here but
it's not working for me so finish bowl the finish yeah did you finish your bowl
that was fucking dumb uh anyway like why did last year in sweden it was toronto detroit
okay that makes sense ottawa that makes sense minnesota well but you don't like minnesota
generally no but like what's the connection between those teams today no and and so you
have to be careful with your minnesota hate the why not minnesota the city the wild organization
when i saw they were there i was like you know what this is good despite them having no connection
to the other three teams yeah this is good yeah i hope they win they didn't and everybody remembers
how they did too uh anyway long story short let's get into the hockey nick robertson has four goals
this preseason is now the time to trade five is now the time to trade him uh shut up sam mckee
from the fan 590 that was a good tweet it's a good tweet that was a very good tweet kevin
papetti was like you know it's honestly the logic's there the logic's there but no i want
this guy on my hockey team what i wanted to bring i wanted to use sam's tweet as a way to get into
it because i actually thought that craig berube's comments after the game yesterday were really
telling because what he said was he's been great on the power play he's been great defensively
he's paid attention to detail and he's obviously been rewarded on the offensive side yeah
scored Craig like he's the guy you wanted him to be he's not terribly uh subtle Craig Brew no I
really like that about him I felt like with Keith um especially because it was his first
uh coaching gig in the NHL every time he said something it just felt like you had to peel
back the layers and then anytime he was actually honest someone would you know smack him on the
because that was how that was how that organization was run back then and i think keith being a new
coach and the organization at that point bending over backwards not to have anybody crying uh
was and it was that's how it was it was very political oh we don't want to hurt feelings
um craig berube what are you going to tell him you think you think brad trill living or brennan
shanahan are going to call craig and be like hey craig i didn't really like you know like
pull him into his office with both of his eyebrows and try to tell him not to I think Craig's gonna
do what Craig does that's why you hired Craig Keefe was a rookie right he was coming in at you
know yeah but the Leafs chased Berube down they wanted him Berube like played hundreds of games
in the NHL won a Stanley Cup he had a pretty successful run in St. Louis he's taken several
hundred punches harder than anyone in your bloodline has ever experienced uh what are you
gonna tell him i don't and no it's like this player i came in as the new guy i just got here
and i don't think there's any of that with greg bruby i think it's i just got here
and it's my team now and as there's 60 of you in camp uh let me make this real easy skate work hard
you'll be on my team i promise you i promise you and nikita grabenkin skated worked hard
he got the early praise um is it gonna lead to a spot on the team doesn't look that way but
he praised him because hey you're doing the things that i asked you to do there are a few players
that i think we'll get to later who i don't think are doing that at all and i think they might find
themselves on the way out of this team robertson had the ugly in public trade request on july 1st
of all it was dumb and we've we've done that and we don't have to do it again and a lot of people
are like yeah well screw him you can only play the games that are on the schedule and so far
that's been preseason games he's played four of them he scored five goals and two of those goals
are off of masterful defensive plays one's obviously in the offensive zone but it was a
great defensive play and there was the epic back check yesterday turns around comes the other way
scores if he doesn't make the Leafs why like why on earth there's no justification if you're like
hey there's legitimately a spot up for grabs and he couldn't have gone out there and had a better
preseason there's no justification for him not making this hockey yeah at the end of the day
with these these guys who are pro athletes and a lot of them have the their jobs locked up already
the outside jobs that you're competing for are purely like an effort thing because as long as
you're out there and you're giving a hundred percent you're gonna look better than the guys
who are just there who already have their jobs jobs locked up or the guys who are just not nhl
ready skill so if you're out there trying your hardest defensively and offensively there's a
spot on the team for you because you're going to look really good and that's what all you can ask
of nick robertson and every single preseason game he's played he's looked amazing because he's out
there really trying on both ends of the ice and that's exactly what you want so he's done everything
you've asked you might as well reward him for being successful and he's been patient too oh
yeah game one of the preseason patch ready gets two goals and an assist and we all went well
there goes nick sorry but he's like just wait like i'll show up too and he has and like his
trade request was dumb and i think if he'd come into this without that we're talking about this
in a completely different light this this this these five goals look different if he doesn't
have that trade request so i think players get stuck on moments right and we looked at robertson
generally and we're like okay why why did you do that this is the second time in his very young
career robertson has been up with the leafs in the playoffs i believe played every game in the
series and then keith and this was all keith scratched him for the deciding game this was
boston he did it in the columbus series for andreas johnson who hadn't played in
over half a year and okay fine it's an ohl player still kind of dumb but whatever i get it
last year or this past season he had zeros across the board for six games
which is tough seventh game puts in noah gregor on the fourth line and if i'm not mistaken he's
on the ice for the Bruins game tying goal in the third period of game seven. And if you're
Robertson watching from the press box, I had the privilege long ago. I've told this story before
I'm sitting in the, in the, in a box with a scratched player, uh, during the OHL playoffs.
And this player was, you know, some players are media trained and they're like, that guy's
reporting on this maybe i should keep my mouth shut this player had none of that and i know for
a fact robertson whether he said it out loud or not was like that dude is out there instead of me
and it should a hundred percent be me and that's exactly the attitude you want a player like that
to have yes now he took it a little too far and was like i'm never gonna get in trade so here's
what's interesting is i've never seen a brisson client really do that too like well i don't think
any of this had anything to do with pat brisson right now which is interesting
the player as alan will attest to every single time the player controls what goes out there
and so at the end of the day it's his decision for that to be done yeah we see players take a
swing and whiff often i remember martin b ron was a bad one years ago supposedly he was asking for
like six million settled for like one um cody franzen was a bad one uh he asked for i can't
remember he was gonna get five times five something like that and he had to settle for i think it was
like two times 3.2 yeah or something like that from buffalo i think uh taylor hall with the one
year deal in buffalo would have had eight times eight my own yeah that's horrible yeah compared
to what he should have been getting um you know shoot your shot that's i mean swayman in a way is
doing that right now but you gotta understand the risk yeah so i think at the end of the day
nick robertson has a place on the opening night lineup so here's what i don't understand though
guys the conversation for some reason and i'm gonna i'm i'm gonna uh specifically point out
sam mckee show but there's been other shows too i saw them talking about it the last couple of days
and for some reason the conversation in the toronto media has been is it patch ready or
robertson i just can't see they played together last night they played well and and so and
by the way has i believe five points in this preseason he set him up he set him up so we had
two assists last night yeah he's got two goals in another game they've had both have had great
preseasons as had stephen lorenz who i who was absolutely making the team i think all three guys
gotta why why do we think that the guys that were on this roster last year can't be that that
haven't performed that haven't done well why is it that oh it's got to be patches or robertson i
think it's going to be both and i think it's going to be lorenz as well i think lorenz is as good as
done i think patches is as good as done um what i'm curious about first off is we have cali
saw his first action of the entire preseason last last night and he is out again today no
clearly he's battling some uh uh jake mccabe is being held out of practice too now i don't know
how serious this stuff is but already right there if yarn croak's not in the opening night lineup
you have cap space for these guys right and the second thing is just just to defend kipper and
born like i think the idea of going down that route is just to say like hey if the cap casualty
is nick robertson to fit in a player like patch ready that would be inexcusable and you know
that's that's what you do it would be though but when you're when you're having conversations in
a program like that you're allowed to go down that line and just say like if that's how it
ends up next week that would be inexcusable for this management group it probably won't and it
isn't just them and we you guys know that we we've had justin on we've had nick kiprios on i've worked
with sam they're all great guys this is not a i'm targeting them it's uh it's it that was the latest
show i saw it on but i've seen so many other people say it that i'm like this is not the
conversation i can guarantee you that's not what's happening up uh when when craig berube is talking
to brad for living it's not about uh is it patch already or is it robertson i think it's some of
the other guys and you wanted to you mentioned people that are maybe not well jumping in there's
a bunch of things percolating one is i don't know if david camp is a luxury they can afford
now he was i don't know if he's a luxury well what so here's the thing with i that i get with
david camp and i like david camp a lot this is i don't like him at two and a half nobody does no
but okay fine that's his contract right now my question with him was always he had an assist
okay so you you can kill penalties and you're a good defensive forward but you are where offense
goes to die so very often if you have david comp in a role where he's gonna kill penalties by the
way they had one of the they had a bottom third penalty kill last year so it's not like not good
oh my god what would they do without david um i'm sure they'll be okay when you look at what you
expect from the fourth line if if ruby wants a hard heavy big fourth line which i would assume
he eventually does camp was i believe on the ice for that goal camp is not the guy worth noting i
keep bringing up that goal samsonov has to have that 11 times out of 10 if you want a center so
bad who is going to push the other centers a guy who's going to actually go yeah i'm fourth line
center now but i'm hoping to be third by the minute and if there's an injury you bet you i'm
going to walk in there if there's an injury to say tavaris nylander math he cannot play higher
he can't play higher than four it's it's horrible that tried it every time the conversation for me
is not yarn croak who i'm a big defender of it's not patches or robertson it's has homebird played
well enough i like i like homebird also cap cap works for in his favor has conf played well not
well enough i mean he was the top line center yesterday it's not even it's not even as conf
played well enough it's can we afford to uh oh money ball money ball can we afford to uh
can we replace him in the aggregate can we replace him with a combination of doer who's hurt and
hasn't played at all the steven lorenz steven lorenz and pontus homebird yeah yeah yeah yeah
you can um here's one that no lee fan wants to talk about when do we put joseph wall in a milk
carton yeah he's played 30 minutes this preseason i think matt murray is going to be in the opening
night lineup and people are going to lose their mind i don't think no no one's mentioned it yet
but yeah joe's not joe's not been playing and yeah they don't have to mention it i've
they've played six games and he's played half of one he has practiced he has five games sorry i i
have to say i didn't think matt murray looked good i thought dennis hildeby was the guy yes
thank you like why now i know when matt was good he was really when matt was good john
tavaris was an islander like let's stop yeah you're talking about the 2019 season let's all
stop like yeah okay if if he's good he's only 30 it's like a secret i'm sorry it's a secret now
now anthony stolars is friggin sick as it turns out he's been very very good so i'm not my panic
level is not too high on that one the the player i i wanted to call out and i you know i was
watching the game and i'm planning what i'm going to talk about on this show and then justin bourne
steals it and i go you stink whatever he got to use footage lilligren couldn't be more mid
if he tried uh which he doesn't really and when he does i wish he wouldn't like he
you know some players try too hard what is it what is it about his game that bothers you
uh his general presence um dude he he cannot be in front of his own net i know he kills penalties
uh five on five he can't be in front of his own net he makes really good plays with the puck
except for when he doesn't and he's one of those quote-unquote offensive defensemen i'm like
are you good offensively or do you just have the puck often i think there's a difference
there's a very key not a lot of conversion with lilligren right like there's not a lot of big
points or anything like that five on five no and it's funny like all these players
um the majority of them are not making their first impression on Craig Berube
and that's very important what do you mean they're making their first impression meeting him
talking to him playing for him and he gets to see are you doing the things I like and the things I
told you to do but I think back to a game from I think it was a couple years ago it was an
absolutely insane game between the Leafs and the Blues and there was a thousand lead changes
and lilligren was getting a run i believe in the top four and he was frigging awful and if i like
that game that one particular game we were all rooting for him how dare you tyra banks style
and he was he was he's terrible and i think he even scored that game but that's the given the
take with him but defensively he's brutal um just the very small plays he was making the lazy
backhand around the boards just so many flubs and i'm watching the game and i know it's the
preseason and i know it's one game and i'm like is there an over two million dollar difference
between timothy lilligran and philippe myers no not even on in what universe even marshall refi
who is not offensive but is there a two million are you telling me there's a more than two million
dollar difference between timothy lilligran and marshall refi i've liked refi a lot i've liked
him a lot this preseason i think i'd take hock and paw on one knee at the at the amount of money
you're okay for a five because he got hit at the end of the game last i don't know the game
yeah he was on the bench and just hanging out but i thought they would have taken out for like
concussion it was a bad it was hard dude and and here's a guy i've given a really really hard time
to connor timmons um like is there a nearly two million dollar difference between lilligran and
so would you advocate for moving off of lilligran he makes three million dollars yes yes because
that that would solve all your problems like everything we talked about fitting all these
players you know three million dollars out the door leaves you with about two million in cap
space imagine this team sans camp and lilligran like that's that's what is it 5.4 million dollars
in terms of like the the team construction it's not that i don't think it's a drop off
no no no it's well yeah yeah exactly like you can you can fill in the gaps with the guys you got
lilligran is the point at watching this preseason is riley taniff mccabe they really like and
they're trying to extend and i mean injuries are going to play a factor here too um oel
another guy who i feel like we haven't seen in a couple games um i think they're trying to hold
i mean we haven't seen matthews and marner neil no that's true you don't need to play these games
no like it's so inconsequential like oh they need to be literally three games and when hawk and
paw is healthy well i think he's he's six seven at three million dollars you can't little green's
expendable at this point well but million expendable yet guys this is the question is
the expendable yet you need to find out when hawk and paw is coming back and cj's mentioned that
could be three months and and you need my dude the listen we have had morgan riley and his band
of midiots for how many years right jeez like like think i've never even heard that the mid
i just made it up the mid people that morgan riley has had to play with yeah but he's with
tanif now i know i know but they're a tan of injury away from that to have a mid player
playing sheltered third pair minutes i know three million bucks hawk and paw is not ready
no i know clearly they want refi down i don't think kade weber's ready you know i no there's
something there so i like so so what we're talking about here is you know how do you fit you know
robertson patcher ready lawrence into this lineup and i think the immediacy of shedding salary comes
down to david kopf david kopf is replaceable lilligren is replaceable in a perfect world
but they may need hawk and they're gonna need them yeah until they know what they have with
hawk and paw i agree and then it can hawk and paw still play at the nhl level managing that pain
and can uh you know and then here's the thing it's probably gonna cost you tim and the other
part that people forget yeah is that right what's gonna cost you i know no listen to the change in
tone right i'm like oh he's good as gone he's good as gone and i watched that guy i watched
lilligren play hockey i'm like they have better right-handed like in terms of value
like even if lilligren is better than all those guys he's not more than two million dollars better
get off they can't afford it but my point is the first deadline which is the start of the regular
season yeah there are almost no trades available he might make it there and it's five days away
you need to wait for a team to lose a right shot defenseman and you need to say how about
timothy lilligrid right shot defenseman immediately valuable right that's what needs to happen so i
think timothy's on this roster and he's going to make it to at least midway through the season
not unlike the patches in robertson conversation i think what you mentioned earlier kind of makes
this all mute because i think yarn croak and wall maybe go on ltir come like six and that's six
million and they're everybody who we're talking about might be out the door it can just stay
well so i think at the end of the day somebody's probably injured at the end of this training camp
and everyone's here about six weeks ago we were talking about oh the leafs it looks like they're
actually gonna have cap space and they'll accrue it ah i don't think that's the plan anymore um i
think they left themselves some wiggle room discovered a bunch of people got hurt and um
they're not going to be able to do it i i don't understand the legality of signing a player
and then immediately putting them on ltir before they ever play a game or like we know
well yeah hockinpah was not injured doing services for the toronto maple leaves yeah
you know what i mean like what's to stop a team from going out and signing a 50 year old former
nhl player and being like uh we signed him to 10 million bucks and we got to throw him on ltir like
i'm using it extremely i think extreme example rules in the cba against that okay okay right i
agree so where does hockinpah fit in there well because he was an nhl player last year it's pretty
and i would look at it like this steve if you remember when phil kessel signed in toronto and
missed the first month yes but also what you're saying a bit different what you're saying steve
does actually happen it's happened many times yeah like the arizona coyotes throughout their
history took on shea weber's contract just for the sake of the lci contract dax suits like what
you're saying does sign him it doesn't matter what the difference they they took like they
acquired they acquired them they acquired the very different ah it's very different they acquired
his contract no but you're putting it on the rock on the books it's essentially the same thing oh
it's definitely bullshit the leafs expect hawk and paw to play yeah the coyotes didn't expect
either of those guys to play oh the example of the coyotes real life taking on shea weber
is much worse the hypothetical of what you're talking you guys are listen hey hey oh i'm on
your side yeah it's all you're getting upset uh no i'm not getting upset i think he's i'm just
saying no with the leaps everyone complains about everything they won't even let them fly their
prospects overseas so i'm just looking at this situation going i'm surprised they're letting
this go because it doesn't benefit the leafs in any way they want the player yeah the leafs want
hawking by to play hockey what do you mean they're not doing anything for ltir shenanigans so no one's
complaining they're saying ah you suck toronto you missed out on this guy you want and and like
it's not and then the pa is gonna say wait so you can't sign any injured players oh the pa yeah
that'll be that's great we love that let's sign up we'll sign that right now right no fucking way
man right absolutely not i think you have to be a registered member of the nhlpa and have
legitimate injuries and there's things that you have to cross no steve you could not do that as
diabolical as that is and i love that your brain goes there no they cannot sign a 50 year old
steve's they can't they cannot asking brendan shanahan to walk down to mount sinai sign
everybody in the hospital why not that's fine the baby sign the baby no what's happening no
it's in the cba they're not old oh yeah yeah no offer offer everly a deal you know what
you know you can't play yeah league men league men pretty good you know what so here's here's
what it is i think i think you're right about lilligren i think they're going to keep him for
a while i think the obvious choice here is david kopf um because pondis holmberg is to me or steven
lorenz do all the stuff he does and they're better at other things too and it'll be so interesting
if this is all a moot point
and they kick it down
the road a month.
So Hawk and Paw
is on LTIR
to start the season
at least for probably
three months.
Joseph Wall,
wrap him in bubble wrap.
Spin the wheel.
If he's on LTIR
to start the season,
that's what,
four and a half?
When does that extension
kick in?
No, no, no.
He's still on the
really cheap one.
Yeah.
Joseph Wall makes
seven, seven, six,
seven, seven, six,
six, six, seven, six,
six, and then yarn croak
is two point one
or two point two point one.
So there's four million dollars.
Yeah, you're fine.
all of this is kind of me this conversation is i don't know why we're having this and this is what
i was well i'm trying to be smart and figure it out not you i was trying to figure out why it's
out there generally like well they're gonna have to make a choice i don't think they are
and and so that was my point in bringing all this up is that it's not a question of patch
ready or robertson or robertson and or someone else guys every season every season teams start
with injuries and these patch ready's deal is going to get done this weekend and and then it's
going to be you know we're going to have a starting lineup and oh my god jake mccabe might not play
timothy lilligrant oh well what do you think about this strategy you go to gary betman and you say
all right we're going to pay this guy but like he's not on our cap and gary goes oh okay that's
fine we'll talk about that later there's more about that strategy nothing you do there's more
to that yeah yeah um i i want to say too i had really i don't know do you guys have um
do you guys ever have hockey related dreams
uh mostly um missing work related okay yeah because you like i look at i view it as a work
related dream oh shit oh i forgot to do this oh no any work or hockey related dreams not really
now because my dream last night uh i was trying to book an interview for the show uh with steven
lorenz because he just signed a contract and steve had told me we must get steven lorenz
and i told you told us you were like you're like it's really important and for whatever reason i
was like man it seems really important yeah and so i was having trouble booking steven lorenz i
just want to let you guys know that that was i thought you were going to end that with and he
just signed no he didn't okay um you know who remains unsigned is jeremy swayman jeremy swayman
you know wouldn't it be and i just was throwing this out there wouldn't it be a total shame
if everybody listening to this went on every instagram post mentioning jeremy swayman
and told everybody how much they're enjoying this no i think it would be a real shame no no no no
I hate to flood your profile picture and say on the Boston Bruins page,
eight times eight or go.
So obviously you saw the picture last night.
It's starting.
And I told you and the Bruins have been too good for too long.
So people forgot.
But that fan base and media core know how to turn on a player.
Oh, yeah.
And it hasn't quite happened.
but there is a little what what is that there's a little there's there's a little something in
the air like rain on the wind there's a little something there's a there's a little there's a
little second am i getting am i getting notes of dougie hamilton in in there what oh take 64 or go
eunice corpus aloe by the way is throwing me all the way off because his mask i don't know if it's
the shape of the mask or the design but every time i see him i'm like that's too carask and it's not
i last night it definitely wasn't uh i have to say maybe this is just me being petty uh because
i've never been in this situation but if my if a guy who wanted me to be his employee did that
because what km neely was really doing there was turning the fans because what had happened was
I think the Boston Bruins front office believes
that there was a leak from the Swayman camp
to spit and chiclets, right?
And so their way of countering that,
and Cam Neely knew what he was doing.
He's not new.
He said, well, I'd have 64 million reasons why.
Now, what's hilarious about that is
the 64 million was never offered.
The reality is that they were talking about how,
as we mentioned last episode,
Oh, we told Yunus Korpisalo, he's the opening night starter.
Yunus Korpisalo is like, nobody told me anything.
And what's happened is you got a bunch of people in Boston who, and they would do this
in any city, but Boston has its own flavor.
Let's be honest.
Who are going 64 million to play hockey.
Are you fucking kidding me?
And so, you know, doctors went and when Lewis, we're going to do this every time.
Well, then league minimum shouldn't be almost 800 grand.
when how about they all play for free when lewis gross said it was unfair to jeremy that was the
truest part of that statement and we're going to take a few days which to me was the the death
nail in this not getting done before the end of the season we'll see or by the beginning of the
season beginning of the season i was like what the end of the season what do you end of the season
oh we can only hope yeah um this is ugly and i love it i love it i can't wait for him to sign
for like i don't know six times six by the end of the show it's just very boss gonna be very boss
now amazon uh the amazon series is out today um so it's the you know profiling on a bunch of nhl
players obviously the first one we saw was uh nylander and pasternak uh we've talked about
that a little bit on the show but there is some pretty relevant stuff happening with jeremy
swayman's episode and uh the fact that and people forget this he went to arbitration last year with
the bruins now in arbitration even though alan alan and i talked about arbitration late last
season um sometimes in arbitration things are said that players never forget and arbitration
used to be like a mudslinging competition oh no adam you're skipping a very important part
he went to arbitration and got his feelings hurt but whose fault well i was getting went to
arbitration i was getting to that i was getting to that so it used to be so here's alan describes it
he describes it as it used to be like a mudslinging competition now it's very numbers based it's very
this player and this player who make this much and this much got similar numbers to the player
in question uh we think that the player in question should get as much or more or a little
less or whatever based on. But it sounds like Jeremy Swayman, who did elect to go to arbitration
himself because he didn't have a contract and they weren't offering him a contract that was
one that he felt he could sign, which is, by the way, his contractual right. He's allowed to do
that. Well, and you I don't think you're allowed to criticize Jeremy Swayman for electing for
arbitration if you don't know what the offer was i don't think you're really allowed to
criticize them regardless but like if you don't know what the offer was once upon a time in my
career i was offered a real long deal i couldn't believe the i couldn't believe it and i got the
number it wasn't a good number and you have to tell your employer that's not a good number
and they can handle it the way they're going to handle it but your number is your number now
there can be some wiggle room you negotiate you you go down a little bit they go up however it
works but you know was i a spoiled brat for being like you're not even close i didn't say it that
way i was a lot more polite about that but privately i was like this is a joke well and
you didn't have the right of arbitration no i did not and you might have taken it uh here's what
Here's the quote, guys, and I want to react to this.
He wrote down, so Jeremy Swayman obviously has to be a part of this hearing with his
agent, and here's what he said.
Hearing you're not worthy of what you think you're worthy of, that was hard to hear, meaning
the Bruins saying that he's not worthy of that.
You don't forget what was said.
I wrote things down in the book, and I looked at them the other day, and I had a couple
check marks beside them.
My biggest knock was how I wasn't trustworthy in the playoffs.
check and if you remember last year even though they lost swayman was incredible he was incredible
and if all mark doesn't play game two that series is probably over before it gets to game seven
all mark wasn't great no no so swayman was unbeatable so obviously we have no idea how
this is going to end as much as we're enjoying it i hope it goes on forever um jesse and steve
when you put yourself in a bruins fans shoes for a second what's it like to win all the time must
feel great uh yeah i uh what's it like how many championships if i want a reason to be upset yeah
but find one anyway um uh i want to know as a fan how you'd be how you'd be feeling this morning
hearing that quote that was the least goalie who you loved and you knew was going to be a top five
goalie in the league for years to come it's so difficult because the knocks on swayman
aren't even knocks they're just very simple truths which is he hasn't had a full season as a clear
starter that's the beginning middle and end of it um so if i'm a bruins fan i mean
the current contract negotiation or uh dispute that they're having is what it is and we've seen
it a thousand times what i think is perfectly legit to be mad at and frustrated about last
night you saw yunus corpus allo in that for the bruins and he wasn't good and you claimed yuri
pateroff waivers which means bucey and and di pietro any of those guys who could have stepped
in and you give them a shot and maybe they're okay young but you want to you want to keep those guys
seasoning in the in the ahl you don't want them in the nhl level right now he's like 26 27 use him
he's been fine i but i guess they didn't like what they saw right
lena soulmark could be the solution right now it could be in their net right now he's playing
games for the sins right now on a contract you signed him with yep you didn't have to trade him
you could have traded like the package you got for could you is that an offer you can't refuse
i don't think so no you could have traded them at any point and you traded them then and it wasn't
good and it's the reason they're in this position if you lose all mark for nothing
right like let's say they keep them they sign swayman and you lose hallmark i'm sorry we
refer to that as an own rental yeah well what i was going to suggest is is that the worst thing
in the world no but especially because you have brandon bucey coming up and by the way i'm looking
at his numbers the last two seasons he's played about 70 games for the providence bruins 924
save percentage two years ago 913 last year guy's really good at the a level he's been good
he's been quite good in the ahl he's six six foot four every time he steps on the ice and he's big
26 26 there you go um so i'd be much more upset about how we got here and as a non-bruins fan
it's difficult to put myself in their current shoes it's just as an outsider looking in they
didn't need to put themselves in this position and they did jesse the idea behind the all-mark
move was that you're making space to sign Jeremy Swayman. You're freeing up $2 million in cap
space by moving all mark for Corpozalo. And that gives you that extra $2 million. So you get to
around 7 point something on the cap right now. They're $7.8 million of their current cap space.
So you still need a corresponding move. So what they did was they freed up for Jeremy Swayman's
contract and now he wants even more than that so i don't blame boston management on hey we're making
this move so you can get more money but we don't have more money than that because this is a hard
salary cap league so you asking for nine million dollars we're moving off of our roster that we
believe it yeah we believe in this roster here and you're asking us to stretch our resources here
that we don't have it's if i'm jeremy swayman it is not my fault that the boston bruins do not have
the cap space to accommodate my worth right totally it's their fault yes they're a problem
yeah but the boston bruins are now at this point where they're asking him to work with them and if
if he doesn't want to do that then that's why they're at this impact well i think when the
president gets on stage and starts airing your dirty laundry that's when you're not trying to
work with me are you you're trying to make this difficult you're you're you're making this personal
is is what you're doing um it's in an ugly place like how jeremy swayman comes out of this is gonna
it's gonna say a lot about who he is because like i don't i i think it's very easy to look at this
and go just take the money it's obvious there were hurt feelings after the arbitration look fine
he recovered um i think the feelings are a lot more hurt this time around and i don't know how
he mentally recovers from that the part where i side with the boston front office and i disagree
with jeremy swayman is that i don't agree that his worth is the number that he thinks it's it's
valid he's saying you're not paying me my worth you freed up the salary cap so you can pay me
but i that's not enough money for my worth i disagree on what you think your worth is jeremy
swayman because of the history that he's been spectacular in the playoffs in in spurts like
the idea that he's inconsistent in the playoffs like there's an argument for that and one of
them's injury you know that the first run where they had to go to all mark at the end of the
the series and when they had the best record ever in the regular season they flamed out that was
all very sad when they lost to florida but there's been moments where like game seven against um
toronto where 30 30 out of 31 saves like can't ask more from him out of that and the one goal
that was scored is like you could argue there was there should have been a penalty at the beginning
of the play it's a really good player left wide the next round after that game one against florida
he stands on his head like they they win that game because of him and there's another game in there
in that series they didn't win very many games but he makes 40 saves you know there's there's
been moments where he's this pure best goaltender in the world moments where he's stealing games for
you and that's all you can ask for but just do it for longer prove that you're in this class of
of uh top tier goaltender and then you can go get your 10 million dollars and the nine million
dollars but right now i don't think you're smart if your management and giving him nine ten million
dollars as a leaf fan i'm absolutely relishing and all this but like jesse you're 100 right like
the easy solution here okay so we have this one reservation about you here's a one or two year
deal at a pretty good number and we just want to see it out of you yeah but his point was 8.3
million dollars for two years where you can at the end of this two years your salary caps at
the place where where alan likes it's 120 million dollars and you can make 15 million dollars a year
at the end of these two years why isn't there some sort of agreement in there well this is the thing
though i think he feels like hey i took the one year deal last year i did this and i want my
money now but that's important what did you do last year you split the net with another goaltender
not out of his own choice though he would have said why didn't you play me 60 games i would
have played it but you had we had a guy who's just as good as you and and just won the vesna
like he won the vesna not you you were on the same team and he won playing swayman 60 games
last year would have been psychotic because it's like all mark is the reigning vesna winner and i
think i brought this up last show but even in vesna trophy voting for last season all mark was
in sixth and swayman was in seventh i mean your teammate was pretty close but yeah it's one and
two but the writers whose job it is to evaluate the best goaltenders in the league thought that
your teammate was slightly better than you and i know you got the starts in the playoffs because
you obviously are the goalie of the future and you played better than at the end of the day
but you did that wasn't your prove it year this is your prove it tenure here now go do it the the
fan in me wants this to get as ugly as possible and ruin the brewing season um the reasonable
person in me is like you guys both need to get over yourselves sign a short deal i don't know
who told you to sign a one-year deal when your goaltending partner just won the vesna um like
okay sure um sign a one or two year deal get this over with and clean their clocks
in two years when the cap is up your contract is up and you're the number one guy i think clean
them out what the one place i think you're very right is that if boston management had a time
machine they would have never done the all-mark trade it makes sense it made sense at the time
thinking that like oh so i mean you'll sign with us it still feels we'll figure this out but i think
they probably would have loved to have all mark right now i think they also you know you talked
about a little bit earlier steve the the lilligran is he worth two million more than the next guy
down he might be better but is it two million dollars i would say the same with unis corpus
al is okay what does he make it is he is he two million dollars better than bucey or is he two
million dollars better than a goalie you could have signed what stoller signed for with the
Leafs two million uh less than what Corpus Allo is making salary retained like this is my point
but like they had the opportunity to not do that and it felt like also has never played 30 games
and I get why they didn't want to have like an eight million dollar goalie and a five million
dollar goalie if it didn't make sense for their cap structure whatever the all-mark trade feels
forced to me it just does you had to take Corpus Allo you had to and you could only get them to
retain that much this is the guy that won the Vesna trophy you guys just mentioned it this
guy just won the fucking Vesna trophy and was voting the next year yeah it's it's not enough
it's not enough another in a tough spot the pro the process made sense like I I don't like
criticizing the process when it all makes sense at the time but like the results aren't adequate
at all well I mean when you I mean at the time I said that trade wasn't as bad as everyone's saying
it is um but that's also with the assumption ah this will get done exactly which it didn't
and now there's much egg on your face yeah the trade looks bad and and you're letting a fucking
podcast get in your shit too like that's the you know the reality is like good for chicklets for
for having that kind of heft right like they've got they've got a huge following and they've got
a lot of connections i mean they are the player's show right so um they're able to do things that
other shows can't do but i would say that for boston to tip their cap or tip their their hand
not tip their cap tip their hand and say we are bothered by this what do you think they're so
bothered what do you think whitney and biz are gonna fucking do they're gonna jump all over you
on that and they're gonna lean into it and they are a kid opening gifts on christmas yes they're
having so much fun like they're having so much fun i know and it's so so i think that's too where
it's just this is a silly situation uh but you should check out that amazon doc because i think
the swayman stuff there's a there's a real chance here it goes to december 1st and like this is
insane but there's also a chance that it's just solved you know what is it mutually assured
destruction like i just don't i i think swayman missing games is going to get in the way of his
goals i think maybe there's a chance that maybe if i'm swayman okay you're not going to give me
the money i want boston you know one thing i'll say about their management group is they do draw
a line in the sand we can't relate um so if you're swayman and you're gonna bend on something
to me bend and get a shorter deal i know he wants the eight years now but i think you're
absolutely right listen if you have the opportunity to get eight years of security you take it um
doesn't sound like you do but man you'd be 27 you and a ufa another year or two and then the
cap goes up it's probably six seven million bucks by then and you just clean them out yeah why what
the two million two year thing i threw out like why i can't just do that yeah play games you don't
want to sit out yeah and then come back and say i don't want to play anywhere else but boston i
would do this for free or leave because you have or leave because you have the opportunity to leave
you will be a unrestricted free agent you're not an rfa right now they maintain your rights and you
can only play in boston right now unless you sign some sort of offer sheet but at the end of this
you can be a ufa and go wherever you want you know so i i would say too uh he's gonna look
great with the abs i can't wait it's such a good match it is it's actually kind of perfect and it's
gonna happen if he gets traded it's gonna be at the avalanche oh yeah oh yeah i mean if anyone
would open it'd be it'd be vegas it'd be avalanche it'd be like great teams who you know what i mean
like and and by the way you're saying oh they're out of cap room stop it stop it stop it they'll
figure it out if you're vegas would you do like i'm sorry that deal needs to involve aiden hill
oh yeah oh that's do you think vegas is afraid of that no not at all not at all no not at all
um so anyway fun stuff good times at the ranch uh let's move on patrick lion a has uh cleared
things up uh he said that um basically that you know first off he's made the decision that he's
not going to have surgery because that was on the table but they're going to just rehab the knee
uh kind of like what connor mcdavid did with his ankle uh his knee it was his pcl right and i
believe that's is that not what uh line has i don't know pcl anyway long story short he's going
to rehab it it's going to take three four months and he did say uh that he got a text from cedric
parre which he appreciated and said hey i didn't mean to do that now just so you know this got so
bad that the toronto maple leafs pr staff had to step in and shut down cedric parre's social media
accounts not just he was getting that many threats so line i didn't just say parre texted him he's
like well you know it's hockey and like you know my leg was out or whatever these things happen
yeah right so i think that's important in it i'm i'm zero percent shocked like i don't know
if pare has ever played an nhl game he hasn't i don't think so like you're you're going from
ahl dude to everyone in montreal wants you dead yeah um i don't blame him for for uh deleting
his socials and if you're expecting us to get on a soapbox and say you shouldn't do that
i don't know how you stop that this happens every time any player does anything uh in every
support um robin lennar uh will be paid by the vegas golden knights but will have his cap taken
off vegas's cap this year and i believe it's 4.4 million dollars in real money but i think it's
5 million in total salary now um before anybody gets too frustrated i was warned
after i tweeted you got to be kidding me yeah that first off he's going through a bankruptcy case
okay so um uh and and there's some other things that are going on and we don't need to get into
it we're talking about things that are you know there's accusations of poor spending habits and
and this is a person that has already been through a lot so i don't want to dive too deep if you if
you want to read it it's out there but essentially um there are some things that have been said about
robin lenner that you know there are some issues and money owed and and that sort of thing and
there's a bankruptcy case and whatever what i find interesting about this is bankruptcy is not a
reason to cancel a contract what vegas what i was told is vegas believed they had reason to terminate
the contract and we talk about contract terminations the one i could think of is cory perry
and whatever that situation was and we know that we'll never know what that situation was
Vander Kane had his contract terminated.
So whatever it was, Vegas felt they had the right to do that.
Yeah, it was because he didn't show up for his medical.
Yeah, but there was something else other than that, though.
It's not just that he didn't show up for his medical.
I was under the impression that that is what kicked things in
and gave them the leg up in the negotiations with the PA.
Yes, they did mention that.
What I'm pretty sure is happening is they're just not going to tell us
what it really is.
Yeah.
like so you can't be the first player to ever miss a physical no he can't and so uh long story
short um the nhl and vegas and mr lennar's representation got together worked out a deal
he's not going to be back in the nhl no they are going to pay him the money yep he's it's not going
to count against the cap and i was told that that's probably for the best for everybody uh in
case anyone was wondering what nhl teams uh considers more important uh cash or cap space
vegas is like we're going to terminate his contract and the nhl said how about you give
him millions of dollars but it doesn't count and we all sign an nda and not take this to court and
vegas went fine yeah they just went okay yeah and they just threw it at the wall
it's uh this is so many things with the nhl um there's a lack of trust um with the fans in the
league and in particular with vegas of course fans of other teams are going to look at this
and scream bloody murder of course fans are going to look at this and assume shenanigans
like here's Vegas listen when you say it out loud it's pretty sketch oh they're gonna pay
them all the money but it doesn't count against the cap what and and some of you are gonna be
like can that be afforded to my team is there a player we can just pay the team that's not my
money I don't give a damn they can just pay and they don't count against the cap anymore
and if and if not why why does vegas get this luxury and my team doesn't and the nhl is certainly
not going to give you the answer to that because it's a private matter and it was settled and
whatever um so it's just going to leave fans frustrated and it's and it's another important
story that involves the integrity of the game like dollars and cents against the cap
where fans are just told
yeah but don't worry about it but realistically steve not every story can be told
yeah well they're adding up aren't they like they are adding up you get about one a year
what did you have after last year you had rory perry and then the year before or within two
years of that was evander kane and evander kane's was very public we knew what that was johansson
uh ryan johansson yeah okay that one i don't that one but that one's public we know why the flyers
have accused him of waiting too long to have a surgery that's public and if i'm a fan i'm going
okay we know that one i honestly i have to say on this particular instance i do think the nhl did
the right thing and i think you need to have the room to do that now you're probably right i will
i will grant you that this league is not accountable especially when it comes to player
safety well but and give me this i'll give it to you did it have to be vegas well it did because
the player was in vegas no i know it was under contract but like of course it was vegas yeah
of course i get it it was vague and that is i think a big part of the reason why everyone's
like shenanigans bullshit yeah across the board now uh we'll just you know it's one of those
stories where i feel like there's so much personal going on there that it's it's it's one of those
where it's like, okay, you guys figure it out. And that is the last I will want to know about it.
Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life?
You know, the same way you can skip an ad. I get it. I'm Siyaya and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned.
And today I'm still figuring it out. Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Apparently that's how I roll. So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride.
don't miss the new season of north of north starting september 8th on cbc gem uh clayton
keller first captain of the utah hc gentlemen when did this happen this morning oh cool yeah
i just learned that so all the uh toronto fans who are hoping clayton keller is going to come
here i want to play with austin matthews i'm sorry i don't think he is well when we were in
marner trade proposal land i was like that could be pretty interesting right no now if you remember
when clinton keller was with the arizona coyotes and they said that this wasn't him but it was
definitely him his dad was actively tweeting on twitter like get me get my kid out of here and
then they did and and who can blame him now what's great is they've brought him in and he really is
going to be the first true star of the utah franchise he's so underrated yes so he's so
forgotten in that market he's the amount of points he's put up the amount of crazy performances he's
had in a virtually empty building uh and i know it was full but even full is empty by professional
standards um i really hope he becomes a star there yep um uh i think it's interesting that
they've got barrett hayton put him beside him and not logan cooley not not that there's like
not that that's a bad thing but uh you got two pretty young centermen starting that team off
and i barrett hayton and clayton keller is going to be one to watch producer drew could not be
thirstier about barrett hayden yeah fantasy sleeper yeah seriously and like i get it but
like i i think back to jason york joining the show a few months ago and talking about how young
the sins were up the middle yeah and how like you know it's a difficult position to have everyone
that young so i wonder about that with utah jesse i got a question for you for for fantasy
sure how do you feel when you get your starting line done your starting lineup done because this
is how i did my draft the other night i got all of the starting positions done and then i started
taking like crazy rookies that could have a that might have a shot at scoring a bunch of points
like a macklin celebrini because macklin celebrini always falls because he's not at the top of the
ranking system right i also took will smith uh on one of them oh are you a shark struther uh i am a
bit of a shark struther uh at least with those two i don't know will smith should be on uh fantasy
no okay uh what about so i got so one of them i got cooley and celebrini i feel like pretty good
about that okay okay and my espn fantasy hockey league okay and i just i want to i want to run
this by you i got logan stankoven matt fay mitchkoff and macklin celebrini so you just went
all sleeper rookies yes for my bench okay understood is that stankoven's a good pick and
i did that jesse before i drafted either of my goalies my goalies were the last two and i got
stallers and ingram in one of them you're a psycho and i got binnington ingram and the other
because Ingrid's going to get a ton of starts in Utah,
like a ton.
Unless Vemelka comes back and is really good.
Stop it.
You're a Vemelka truther.
So what do you think about that strategy, Jesse?
Because you always say leave goalies to the left.
Yeah, I would do no goalies.
Like, I don't draft any goalies.
You just do goalies on the waiver wire
if you want to do that,
or one goalie, like one starter.
I had to in both leagues draft a goalie.
No, you don't have to.
Oh, you don't?
You can just fill your goalie slots each week
through waiver pickup.
So I would do one goalie,
and then if he gets enough starts then you use that extra for the extra stats if you're in like
a rotisserie league and the bench it's usually i would usually do um because like hits and blocks
and and pims and plus minus and that sort of things are extra stats in the rotisserie league
so i use my bench to fill out those extra stats so you get the guys who are like really high in
the hits categories and the blocks categories for the extras instead of trying to get because you
can't get really scoring late in drafts so you want to get the guys who don't score but do the
extra stuff i got it okay all right but like mitch goff's a great pick like there's somebody
gonna perform way outside of his adp um yeah but i don't know if like will smith should be on any
okay i'm i don't know what adp is average draft position thank you
hey you're gonna get him really late but he's probably gonna be a couple rounds before that
in terms of his actual performance at the end of the season mitch goff's a great pick um question
for you now no separately uh gentlemen uh jesse i sent you a a graphic i'd like for you to throw
up on the screen steve last leafs game that you went to or even blue jays where you was in sweden
you were paying okay so before that then you've been to a you've been to a leafs game let's say
you want to have a beer and what would you get chicken fingers and fries yeah what would you
know me what would you expect that to cost a beer at a leaf game let's say
that's ridiculous these days like 12 bucks and chicken fingers in front that's gonna cost me at
least 25 bucks okay maybe 30 have a look and jesse's talked about this before it's the atlanta
pricing model but in utah this is the fan family concessions for utah hc now for anybody that's
listening dasani bottled water i'm sorry it had to be dasani two dollars is that how you say it
dasani i think it's how you say it dasani dasani i don't know i've said it my whole life okay
dasani then uh no i i've never heard anyone no i thought you knew something i don't i don't i like
it no that's what it is from now on okay uh next one bring it back up there box of popcorn three
bucks nachos three bucks hot dogs three bucks and far's ice cream fair i don't know what far's ice
cream tastes like but if it tastes like ice cream it's probably good you're noticing there's two
dollars and three dollars now in canadian add another 40 to those prices it might be three
and a half dollars and two and a half dollars how do we feel about this for utah we should all
protest outside of every pro sports venue and grocery store with pitchforks and torches uh
about everything it is i can't believe this i cannot believe how expensive life is and going
to a sports venue is that on all the drugs i think this makes me very jealous in toronto
forgive me if if you guys think i'm wrong on this one but in toronto if they ever brought
fan family friendly concession prices everything would fucking suck that you bought at that like
toronto's a city that right now it's like if you get anything that's like value it sucks i like the
loony hot dogs at jay's game okay are they good though i've been to two loony hot dog days and i
both combine them in like double digits of hot dogs they're delicious you've never invited me
and i would love to have a mega cheat day at a loony hot dog we don't get invited i went to i
think it was the was it was early on in the season i think it might be the first one of the season
i think i had like six or seven hot dogs they're fantastic for a dollar like what what what quality
of hot dog you're expecting you're expecting a hot dog and they deliver a hot dog and it's good
show show me how long the hot dog is uh it's like a just a regular pack you know a regular
pack of frozen hot dogs yeah it's like that shitty it's like a shopsies it's like the the
cheapest pack of hot dogs you'd get at a no frills so they're like they're delicious they're like hot
dog eating contest hot dogs exactly and a hot dog by the way shouldn't be more than that no anybody
any like gourmet hot dog i've ever had i'm like this sucks ass give me the give me the cheap shit
if that game goes to extra innings double digits yeah yeah they're so they're a dollar
like you're like 10 bucks down you get 10 hot dogs that's ridiculous it was it's it's a fabulous
time i just don't think it would work in toronto and and fan friendly concessions in toronto be
like guys it's only eight dollars hayden's been to a couple of loony hot dogs yeah i've been to a
i've been to quite a few and i had a buddy in from saint john and i'm curious if the three of you
could beat me and my two buddies we had 54 between the three of us holy shit no no i'm gonna say that
just no no i also don't want to die dude i'm in my mid-30s there's no fucking way anymore
maybe in our 20s we could have but not anymore i can't do that i uh we hosted a baptism for my
niece which is maybe the most italian thing i've ever said and there was like you know chicken and
veal and all that and they kept going steve there's too much but there's a whole other lasagna
upstairs you got to keep eating and i felt like a i felt like an athlete well past his best i was
like you're putting me on the top line and that's just not what i am at this point in my career
right right i can't do it i'm pto guy yeah i'm i'm listen i'll i'm great locker room guy
i'm not we have an entire showers i'm not we we we um overestimated by an entire lasagna guy
okay not anymore not anymore the best thing about loony hot dog uh day is the mascot that they bring
out just for loony hot dog day what is it a giant loony but he's a loony with arms and legs and
that's my favorite kind of mascot is just a thing but it's like a person thing and it's just a loony
that walks around i got a picture with him so yeah i love him i love him as a mascot i love a
mascot for grown-ups that's not for kids no no that's for grown-ups um also adam you're talking
about um doing this in toronto the the jays actually do have something like this it's called
dugout deals i'm oh i'm just doing a bunch of promo for the jays this team fucking sucks i hate
doing this their biggest win this year listen to the cj show he goes on a rant about they have a
thing oh hold on hold on where's dugout deals here it is uh they had a thing for a while i don't know
I guess they still have it, but it was called Dugout Deals, where in two sections, they
had pretty cheap stuff.
They're like value chips and Bud Lights and soft drinks, and they're reasonably priced.
I don't know if you want to read those out.
Okay, so Bud Light, $5.79 for a 12-ounce for a six.
That's not bad for 12 ounces of beer.
Six bucks?
Yeah.
16-ounce soft drink, $3.49.
Value chips, not chips, value chips, $2.49 value cone.
A 16-ounce soft drink is nuts.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, it's sugar water.
it shouldn't be that expensive no no throw some bubbles in it though i'm not even talking about
the price i'm talking about putting that in your oh yeah hot dog 349 nachos and cheese 469 that's
way too much for fucking bad chips and not even real cheese value popcorn 349 value pretzel bites
which are probably stale for the oldest person and water bottle 249 so the thing about these
dugout deals in quotes is that they're still too expensive and the thing you're getting is like the
worse than that that was my point so like these values don't do that up here the value chips for
249 are like the little bag of chips this is what happens when too few companies run your economy
yeah value essentially what what what we use value for here like in the states you actually get like
sales like black friday it's like 70 80 off in fucking toronto it's like oh we gave you we gave
an extra five percent it's fucking crazy we'll pay the tax like no we'll pay part of part of the
We'll pay one of the taxes.
And I look at,
the way that we do it in Toronto is
we have the value menus,
except for Wendy's.
Wendy's value menu is legit.
You have the value menus,
so people are so grossed out by it,
they go, you know what?
I'm out of game.
I'll treat myself and buy.
It's used so you won't actually buy it.
It's used so you'll buy the more expensive shit.
That's how they do it.
And it's just, in the States,
you guys know how to have a sale.
You guys know how to be like,
yeah, fine, we'll get you in the door.
every business you walk into in the united states you're like how does this stay afloat
i don't understand we'll we'll pay you 40 to take this from us like it's okay they have scale
we don't have scale we don't have i think i found a tiktok with the roger center food so we can
prove oh i don't she just took a picture of the popcorn you can't really see okay this is the so
this is a tiktok account her name is justine falcone uh steve related italian uh yes she's
one of the uh she's one of the falcone crime family uh the penguin so i found this tiktok
uh she was at the rogers center she has the dugout deals and that is the size of the popcorn i'm okay
with that that's just the popcorn from uh like the media yeah so if anybody's listening it's like
a tiny bag of like try try it it's the size of a paperback the paper bag your doctor gives you
your pills in yeah yeah yeah but you know what i'll say this i'll say this that's as much popcorn
as i need okay i think popcorn is like they over serve popcorn to the max and i'm like no i only
need a little bag and then and then i'm good that's the one thing where i'm still put me in
front of a trash bag of popcorn i don't give a shit really i'll drink until i drink i'll eat
salty as fuck butter popcorn from the movies until i die of dehydration well that's the
popcorn they bring in in those big plastic bags too i'm like you don't even pop it there
dump it on the floor walk it in with these big popcorn bags the machine's right there
popcorn's fucking cold and the only thing that warms it up is the is the butter but it's not
butter it's no i love movie theater popcorn you're no no movie theater popcorn i thought
you're talking to jay's popcorn oh you're talking about jay's oh i thought we're talking about
movie no no movie theater popcorn they pop it there okay literally they do yeah yeah i don't
know there's there's it's orville redenbacher and it comes in a bag and oh my god i'm drooling
right now like they're yellow and the kind of yellow like the kernels of the popcorn they're
yellow and the kind of yellow where there's nothing on earth is this kind of yellow you
know it's made of chemicals and it's horrible for you and it is the greatest i'm i'm gonna
i might on the way home crush you know what two bags it's for you can get uber eats you can get
uber eats pop a movie popcorn to your house like cineplex i know you can yeah oh yeah i think hayden
does that don't you hayden no you don't do that somebody around here does that i do it i do it i
go to the theater i'll pick up popcorn i don't uber eats it's too expensive yeah it's outrageous
those fees are crazy it's crazy like adam wilde movie theater popcorn and put full-sized
cadbury mini eggs in it no not not not not the ones with the cream in it you know what i mean
yeah the candy coated ones yeah put that in your popcorn spread it out don't use the mini ones they
all sink to the bottom i learned this from experience that's why you watch so good the
craziest thing about the utah prices is the bottle of water a bottle of water for two bucks anywhere
is a crazy deal like even at the jays thing it's 249 for the value water bottle water for two bucks
is crazy jail um i don't know them doing it just proves that everybody could do it well they can
yeah the falcons do it they do it charge cheap just don't charge so much for food and shit you
know well now that brings me to more stadium food jesse i just sent you this this is guys where we
get to premium okay this is where we talk premium purchase because we were talking about dollar
drinks and like dollar popcorn or a couple
bucks or whatever is this every year when they're
like we put a donut on
top of a burger
this one I actually
respect the hustle let me see it's
for Astros fans and it is called
electric haterade
and it is a blue alcoholic
drink with a salted rim minute made
lemonade hornitos tequila
blue curacao sprite
the
salted rim cherry and lime
garnish 35
$35.89
for 16 ounces.
That's almost
$45 Canadian.
$40 for a drink?
But it's called Electric Haterade
because everybody hates the Astros.
And so if you drink it,
you're like, ah.
What the fuck?
They're trying to get people to meme their way
into giving them $40 for virtually nothing?
It's essentially a tequila and Minute Maid.
Dude, if I'm paying $40 for a drink,
I better not be able to walk out of the building
on my own are you kidding yeah yeah yeah 40 dollars american american that's a mortgage
holy shit no that's psychotic that's one of the craziest i was looking at that like i would drink
the hell out of look at that that looks delicious it looks delicious it looks like it would come out
of you the color that it went into you as yes you know what i mean oh yeah you know you ever
change in color eat or drink something and you're like oh i'm digesting none of that it's just gonna
go two and uh 40 bucks nope nope nope just thought you should know um have you ever guys heard heard
of uh honey deuce no it's the drink at the u.s open it's similar to this and juice honey deuce
like like tennis dude oh like a dude like a double like like like uh the nickname for shit
no like the tennis
oh sorry
or deuce coupe
which was a
a coupe with two doors
so they have
they have this thing
at the U.S. Open
I was there in
twenty
twenty
three or two
I forget
anyway so they have
this drink
it's twenty three dollars
and it's
American
American
which is
okay
it's like
thirty bucks
but you're at the U.S. Open
and it's golf
everything's expensive
no tennis
oh tennis
it's tennis
it's still a rich person
sport jesse turn up his headphones like you said u.s open sorry it's called the honey juice because
the tennis term ah but why wouldn't it be in a golf course anyway continue it is what are we
talking about golf for it's it's like it's a thing though when you go to the u.s open when i went and
i never heard of honeydews and when you go you experience this honeydews thing hey you can bring
it up here this is what it looks like they make it look like a you have um you have tennis balls
and your melon balls so i i wanted to to read what's in it it's it's a collaboration with with
gray goose and and they do everything and and they have a big sponsorship uh what's in it where is it
honey honey deuce gray gray goose vodka made with lemon lemonade uh
there you go a raspberry look here and honeydew melon pieces shaped like tennis balls and this
thing is so damn popular they sold 556 000 honey deuces during the 2024 u.s open so this past
august and they made a total of 28 million dollars okay i'm sorry 12.8 i need to know how
many people attended this what was it u.s open the u.s open how many people attended the u.s
open so we can divide it up how many i don't know how many drinks for google total attendance of
the u.s open so 12.8 million dollars they make off of this cocktail in two weeks that the u.s
open goes on um that is a 26 increase over 2023 so it's only going up more and more people are
loving the honeydew okay that's one of those ones where you when they ask for your card you don't
look down no so you miss the card reader a few times if you have to you just do it yeah i'll
have five reuters has a story uh u.s open attendance this year topped a million people
for the first time okay tickets sold so that's roughly one in every two person people bought
this or or 250 000 people bought four of those exactly i think it's more likely that yeah i
think so too yeah yeah but it's holy it's incredible it tastes like a 23 drink yes where
it's like oh elevated i paid 23 for this this better tastes good and it's fabulous that's the
thing like it wouldn't have sold like that if it didn't taste good the astros one is clearly a
stunt drink no one's actually like it'll be the fucking clown in your group you go to a game with
like eight guys and there's like a clown who's like i'm gonna do it no he's not what a fucking
legend like you know and then and he drinks it it's like oh this tastes like shit and you try
it around whatever that drink that's smart 23 bucks is reasonable for a cocktail in an event
like that a tennis event at a tennis event rich people sport and tennis games are long and they're
hot at tennis it's oh it's on the value menu like i don't know why they talk like my great aunt
so they have the honey deuce prices over the years i don't want to take a look at this but
this is the uh mark of inflation oh wow back in 2012 honey deuce used to cost 14 uh and it went
up to 15 in 2015 16 and 2017 2019 went to 18 wow and then in 2021 they spiked it up to 20
22 and 22 and then 23 this past year so double the rate of inflation yeah this is important
do i get to keep the glass yes i have two honey deuce glasses that changes how i feel about the
price it's good you get to take home your well you can if you want some people who just leave
it there because they're are they these plastic yeah they're like uh they're like the plastic
like you use for yeah hard plastic for glasses can you imagine they just get a bunch of people
loaded they're like here don't drop this yeah so like sometimes at a stadium you go and you
experience something and it costs a lot but you're like that was worth the experience
and i had a lot of fun like i i think about that i'm like that was amazing don't regret spending
the 20 bucks on that but i don't know that astros one i think you'd regret the 40 oh i think i got
heartburn looking at that thing yeah just too much i i was at a portland sea dogs game uh in
portland maine and i bought a helmet full of fries but it comes with a plastic baseball helmet and
it's downstairs in my office and i got this helmet it cost like 12 bucks for fries but i got this
helmet i was like i'm paying 12 bucks for a sea dog's helmet that's worth it the two of you with
your collectibles jesse has the big leafs chain yeah i got that gigantic is it the leafs or blue
jays hat the hat i've worn on the show before when they're in the playoffs right the hat yeah
and it's so hot it's a hot wear yeah well and to look at no that's it um hot in your head but i i
like collectibles are fun steve right you agree i agree yeah you know sorry to be a maximalist
Alex Steeves is on waivers
as of just a second ago
he did not make the Leafs
which is not surprising
I hate that a lot I like him
now a bunch of guys were cut from the team
just today so I wanted to bring this up
because we did have the Leafs segment earlier
and none of them will be surprising
Joseph Blandisi, Nikita Gerbenkin
Roni Hervinen, Alex Nylander
Cedric Paré
Quinlan Shaw
Tverberg, Kokanen, Matinen
Niamala, Petra Nero,
and Cade Weber,
and then Artur Aktimov.
A bunch of those guys are on AHL deals.
Yeah, so a lot of them don't have to go.
But I thought interesting, Kyle Cushman,
friend of the show, has a depth chart
of those that are still available.
Now, some of the names
that are still available that, you know,
Easton Cowan is going to London. We know that, but they're going to keep
him around for a little bit. Connor Dewar is out.
Yarncroke and Robertson have
apparently Robertson has
a tweak, or at least he's not practicing
this morning. It might just
be that he's getting it.
Rafai is still up.
Philip Myers is still up.
Hawken pot. Yeah. Yeah. So
Myers and Marshall refire still
up on the defense side. And obviously
Matt Murray in goaltending because
Matt Murray is not going on waivers until
the day that he is due the hundred thousand
dollar bonus. I don't know if he's
he may not go on waivers. Let's be honest.
So yeah, that's what's going on.
Just thought I'd let you guys know. Not really any
surprises there uh lorenz patcher ready still on ptos probably not for much longer myers might
make they still have another game like yeah the least play on saturday i know like why i feel
like we're all like oh preseason's over a regular season started today no the leafs play this
saturday they need a roster to play who plays in that game i think is gonna be pretty instructive
of the opening night lineup yeah i want to say to the um uh the insiders on tsn of which our
friend cj is one of them uh they were talking about last night how um uh there is there seems
to be an upswell from within the league to shorten preseason so it's not just fans and in fact what
they want to do is the owners are like we don't want preseason some of them don't want it at all
they just want those games to to be regular season games so they want like 88 or 90 regular season
games fuck the players and and listen the players will probably be like uh don't love that but they
will make more money i i don't like when people who work in hockey are like short in the regular
season i'm like shut up don't you know what your job is when you get paid on time
that doesn't it strike you nobody is ever shortening the regular season no they're not
never it will never happen anybody when i hear it i'm like what are you talking about oh yeah okay
i'll just tell a bunch of billionaires to make less money no exactly i what if the season were
to go to 84 games and it's two regular season or sorry two pre-season games a piece is that
reasonable i don't think any pre-season games are necessary i think i think one you need a couple i
think two okay two max then i think you probably need two pre-season games in the electric haterade
you need people just to skate around with other competitors you know i think you need that um
And I think like, yeah, that's the most logical way to do this.
You expand the regular season.
You turn all of those preseason games into real games.
How about this?
And maybe this is silly because of the size of the bench.
Let me dress like 25 guys.
No, I don't think they don't count.
They can't fit them.
They actually can't.
Yeah.
Like there's just not enough.
It's also then you're not.
That's not the game.
No, but like you're fundamentally changing the game of hockey.
Game doesn't count.
You you'll split it between the goalies.
Why not, I don't know, halfway through the game or at the end of the second period,
just be like, these players aren't playing anymore.
Here's the third period.
See, that's a little different.
Don't put everybody on the bench at once.
Like a clown car.
The same way in baseball where you have your whole roster in the dugout.
Why not have guys come out just for the second period?
You swap people in the action.
Yes.
Great idea.
I like that.
There you go.
I subscribe.
That's why you brainstorm.
By the way, I did mention it earlier,
but Tyson Berry has signed a one-year deal with the Flames.
So congratulations to him.
Connor Geeky will be suspended one preseason game
for leaving the bench during a legal line change.
So people were like, he's going to get the Clarkson punishment.
No, Clarkson didn't leave during a line change.
He just got up and got on the ice.
Just sort of got up and left.
Yeah, so that's 10 games and that starts in the regular season.
But poor Connor Geeky is going to miss a preseason game.
I'm sure he's all broken up about it.
If I'm not mistaken, is that the only suspension
of this preseason? That is the only
considering how violent it's been.
Ryan Lomberg got
the same suspension like last
season. Oh, I was
like, when did that happen? No, but he left the
bench just to go fight somebody
and he got a one game suspension.
I don't understand. I didn't
know like that was a rule.
I was reminded that that
was a rule when this happened, but I feel
like guys leave the bench just to fight
all the time all the time and the nhl just sometimes they want to punish them for this
but like guys who are fighters like ryan reeves when he goes on the ice and has to pretend for
like 10 seconds that he's there to make a play on the puck but then is just there to fight a guy
it's the same thing except he's just not blatant about it jesse do they call ryan reeves because
they want him to play hockey are they like man i get this guy listen i love ryan reeves and i love
what he brings i think it's but it's very clear what he's here for he's not there to be like
let's go out there and score a goal back half of the season he wasn't bad at hockey he really was
i know but my point is is that is that his number one responsibility so first half when when matt
rempy is standing in front of an entire crowd outside and is at a face-off dot and drops his
gloves and then fights in front of 80 000 people is that not you're on the ice to fight rempy
one of my favorite players just by virtue of the puck could be in the corner but if the game is in
Madison Square Garden and you hear the you're like oh okay Rempe just got off the bench yeah
he's out there to do something I don't know it's just the rule doesn't really make sense when guys
fight off a face-off draws all the time and guys who are just out there to fight for that moment
because something happened in the game that's not suspended but this one instance because you
beeline to it there's very specific things that dictate what is 10 and what is one like the
clarkson i know got 10 and then shortly after another player did it i was like michael haley
or paul bissonette back when he was playing and we're all like oh he's gonna get 10 and they
reduced it to like three and we were all like what why and then there's this that's one so i i guess
i think it's one of those things where i guess it just happened you know what i mean like it wasn't
david clarkson going better get on the ice before john kills phil um it's a little different you
gotta pretend yeah like pretend you're there on you made that line change for hockey for a little
bit and then go fight that's stupid yeah fuck are we doing i mean there's a lot of shit about
fighting in hockey that's kind of yeah semantics guys there's a code okay there's a code there's
a code and it's malleable yeah jack i was definitely on the ice just to play hockey
yeah no that's why he's there no he was there to injure guys
also i find this hilarious because conor geeky is like a an almost top 10 pick like he was an
11th overall pick he's a good player yeah so it's just like he's not a it's not that he can't fight
but he's not a fighter no like this is so weird like it's such a weird he's trying to make the
team yeah what's happening like yeah well and he missed he's gonna miss a preseason game so
is a spot in jeopardy you might you have to quit you gotta ask i think they they know by the way
connor geeky 50 points in 29 whl games last year he's a good player man he's he was uh in the
circuit oh sorry that's just with the swift current broncos the other 26 he played with uh
wenichi wild he had 49 points in 26 games dude yeah this guy's that's gonna rock a lot of people
weren't high on the Sergeyev deal and I'm like
you don't watch the Coyotes enough
and can you blame them I don't blame them
no no totally totally there's I think
a bunch of players in the league
this year everyone's gonna be like do you know about uh
do you know about I mean it's my job
to watch but like no these
there's some good players out there there is okay
uh shall we do
the press conference
the presser
SDP
the Steve Dangle
press conference Nick Robertson does have
a slight injury what son of a gun at least just announced it today it's a slight upper body thing
they say nothing serious but oh my goodness gotta gotta love that preseason i think everybody's
hurting yeah all right we're starting off with an email this email comes from dominic dominic
writes in and he says hey guys thought i would share some info with you guys i've heard you
mentioned robert svela a few times in different contexts yeah most recently in your episode old
coach new coach when discussing toronto players that wore number 67 remember because uh patches
came in and he's gonna wear 67 well i am actually robert svela's son what no i thought i would share
that when he picked the number he had no clue of the context he was in the middle of the night
at like 3 a.m by his agent and given a list of available numbers and since his number his
florida number 24 wasn't available as it was worn by brian mccabe he absent-mindedly chose 67
no one no one suggested he wore anything else from the organization like no one talked him out of it
yeah as well you mentioned he simply retired because he didn't feel like playing north
america anymore the story is actually that he made that choice and retired for for us so we
could grow up around more family in europe in our ancestral home where we were born in slovakia way
to go adam but you feel bad yeah it was what i read in the newspaper jerk you're garbage jerk
adam you're garbage i'm sorry robert's failed this kid go to the dump my brother and i were
getting older and since we spent so much time outside of our home in europe during the many
seasons he played we were missing valuable time with grandparents etc and attending school back
home anyway anyways love the show and thanks for reading dominic svela wow dominic out of town by
the way i just want to say the reason i apologize well i will apologize i was it i was sad when he
retired because he was so good he was so good for the leafs and then he was just like i'm out of
here fuck yeah for dominic yeah for dominic he left oh so sorry so he's just an all-time good
guy what's oscar the grouch like in real life the trash can that you live in i'm trying to figure
out if he shot right or not because it is is tan of the best right shot the leafs have had since
you scavenge or i think he was a righty i'm looking shot right yeah so it might be robert
schvayla because i think schvayla was better than you scavenge and i'm not even sure you
scavenge shot like eat eat poo eat lots of garbage no i think as an overall defenseman
over the course of his career i don't know about in his time with the leaves well actually
wait is dom listening yeah he was i think he was i clearly that's so cool by the way what a really
that's awesome tell listen dominic tell your dad we miss him in toronto i would love to have him
play longer well we because what you know what the way his replacement was was ken clee i liked
kenny clee yeah but i know steve you know what's gonna happen adam's gonna disparage the name of
ken clee and then ken clee's kid's gonna write in hey well it's a it's a bit of a skill difference
guys it's in adam's nature to be a piece of shit it's yeah piece of shit i'm not surprised by the
way ken clee's a coach is he not in the pwhl or was yeah he is actually yeah he was at the middle
of uh the minnesota thing he was a part of the minnesota thing um no ken clee would even tell
you that he was not robertsville i think it's that's a fair oh no keep digging your hole i don't
you know what fine i'm gonna look at what other pro athletes suck ass i don't know i'm gonna look
that ken clee with the toronto maple leafs yeah oh you had 29 points you know who who had 45 the
year before roberts phelan keep digging your hole keep to the like adam he's just talking reckless
anybody out there and also like texting me in the middle of the show i was texting you because
timothy lilligran made a comment that he didn't think he'd played his best preseason hockey yeah
that's why i texted that to you well why what's what is he should be a coach he nailed it jesse
All right. One more thing. Actually, two, three more things. Oh, wow. I keep adding to the list. First, Agent Provocateur is out right now. You can listen to it if you're listening to this podcast. It is available. Adam, what is on that episode? Can you tell people why they should listen?
Okay, so we talk about not the situation directly, but the Swayman situation.
And Allen, being an agent, has had this before.
And if you're an Ottawa Senators fan, you will remember a player named Martin Havlat.
You'd be surprised that Allen, him being Czech, Allen was his representation.
What a shock.
Martin Havlat went through the exact same thing as Jeremy Swayman.
and there is a really really great story about how that deal got done and how close
remember nylander right how close he was he was to going i'm going back to europe
i want to know and it's like it's you know how nylander they like filed within 30 minutes
yes you know like with it of the deadline of nylander being able to sign i was at cbc that
day it was crazy that's right yeah so same thing very cool story so that's the price of admission
right there that stories and there's going to be a lot more aps this year than there were last year
so uh the show will happen a lot more but this one is a can't miss love the show cj show is also up
yeah we have such a despicable amount of content it's great the vip episode i uploaded an hour
long video that's the blue room yeah uh but uh cj and i listened to him and julian talk about
the amazon documentary on the way here i have not gotten to this famed blue jays rant yet and i'm
told it is one of the best things he's ever done you'll love it you'll love it jesse a second thing
steve we have to send you to a saskatoon blades game oh i like saskatoon do you would you would
you attend this uh can i can i go to earls after i love earls yeah would you attend the game yeah
would you attend it even harder if your ticket was free oh yeah he would attend yeah that you
would definitely show up if you got a free ticket what what are you saying well steve what you
qualify for a free ticket to an upcoming saskatoon blades game why because you are steve what that's
it the saskatoon blades blades are hosting steve knight no friday what friday october 11 amazing
if your name is steve you show up to the box office and you show them your id and you get a
free ticket to the game i will read what they wrote on their site sick they wrote calling all
the steves we're trying to break the record for the most people named steve at a sporting event
friday october 11th at saskell center when we welcome the spokane chiefs if your name is steve
this night is for you pop by the box office the day of the game show your id and get a free ticket
to the game the night is all in honor of steve hiscox 20th anniversary as our team photographer
celebrate the greatest photographer in the whl whose passion has been bringing every single game
to life through his lens i know for a gosh darn fact someone with the saskatoon blades
suggested this as a joke and they went you know that's a great that's a great idea why did canada
have to be so big yeah i want to drive there right now to fly it's too expensive to fly
because it's stupid how long by lotto boost no too long oh no damn lotto boost you'd be
two three days in the car so i can't even take the lotto booth if it wasn't this friday like
next friday i should say a week from today we could probably figure out something like to do
around it but it's seven days from now you can't yeah so it's a three and a half hour flight
uh it's long your flight's gonna be over 300 bucks each way oh that's insane that's way too much
no dude that's so good steve what a great idea and that honestly it would have been great to
see you walk in there with like a crown and a scepter and like i'm steve i will be the king
of the steves i'm steve i'm steve i'm steve i'm steve dude that's so good adam why is your mouth
open what happened what are you doing adam just scrolls twitter during the show i have to watch
It's like having news.
Is it breaking news?
He says that,
but like I do roll in Twitter.
No,
no,
I do.
This is a good one.
Okay.
Guess who was cut from the sharks today?
Macklin Celebrini.
No.
Yaroslav Askarov.
Yes.
No way.
He is being sent down according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA.
That's got to be a paper transaction.
It must be.
Must be.
Has to be.
Anyway,
just throwing that out there.
Jesse,
last one.
last one give me one moment i'm gonna pull the muscle react i'm gonna fire this one up
right in the groin okay oh god wow adam do you want to remind people the things you mentioned
at the top of the show okay so greta arcade bar wednesday next uh well it's a week and a half
from now wednesday october the 9th leafs taking on the montreal canadiens to kick off the season
yes we are still a fucking week and a half away from this it's so frustrating so it's not a week
and a half less than a week um then we've got steve and his you twos and we're giving three
of these away on our social media so follow at sdp and sports you can also order them right now
they're in the link below we also said congratulations to julian mckenzie right
because he's going to ottawa uh was there anything else that i mentioned no i think that was it the
book tour oh and the book tour all right i got it ready and we got it up and ready to go i promised
this uh about a week and a half ago so we're gonna play it again okay it is our end to honor
the release of nhl 25 today we're gonna play our nhl 25 lineup quiz where i give you oh man the
player ratings of the starting five of a hockey club okay and you have to name what hockey club
and you're talking about ea sports ea sports nhl 25 so we have here on left wing in 86 overall
down the middle starting at center in 85 overall starting on the right wing in 89 overall and on d
lefty 88 on right d 86 what team is this team a lot of really good players
but no stars no elite yeah because it like it couldn't be like if you have a top flight defense
it could not be
who's the Sens
top line left winger
and what right handed
defenseman do they have
who would be an 80
Mitch Marner
Shabbat
no
no he's a lefty
and Sanderson
no
I'm getting Sens vibes
but
I have a thought
could it be
no not high
could it be the Calgary Flames
oh
Western Conference.
So not the Flames.
What?
No, no, no.
I mean, like,
you're saying,
if I had lost the Calgary Flames,
you would have been like,
oh, correct, right?
Oh, yeah, sure, sure, sure.
So it's not the Flames.
No.
I think in honor of Hayden
being in the studio today.
Oh, yeah, Capriza.
No, yeah,
he wouldn't be in 89.
He's too...
Good job.
That's what's in your noggin.
I got it.
St. Louis.
Oh!
That's St. Louis.
A little more West.
whoa seattle of missouri that's too west no okay i'm gonna stop guessing no no that's the point
of the game is to guess this can't be utah ding ding ding ding is cool he's an 85 it is the utah
hockey club on left wing nick schmaltz uh 86 overall cooley 85 down the middle keller 89
on the wing. Sergachev
and Derzy, 88 and 86
on the back end. There you go.
All of those ratings are going up at the end
of the season, by the way. All of them.
Those players, that's such
a sick young team. Damn. You might be like,
Schmaltz, 86. Again,
that's one of the consequences
of not playing in front of anybody for
years at a time. Yep. Good player.
Yep. I have a
doll.
Plushy. Stuffy.
You can do anything with that one
Just take it home
