Starting point is 00:00:00 This is Jacob Smallwood, and you're listening to the Steve Dango Podcast. The Steve Dangle Podcast with your hosts, Steve Dangle and Adam Wilde. If you're new to the Steve Dangle Panago Pizza Podcast, I'll break down what's happening right now. Twice a year, we take a week or so off. In August, we took one off. And on this week in December, we usually take off. And we run best of episodes. So two best ofs we'll run this week.
Starting point is 00:00:53 One right now, the one you're listening to. And one on Thursday. It's a collection of the best clips of the show from the last six months selected by yours truly. I'll introduce each one so you know what's going on. Oh, and also, I should have started with this, but thank you. Thank you for listening to the show. I'm sitting here right now in our fancy-ass Sportsnet 590, the fan studios, all by my lonesome. And it's weird that we're here.
Starting point is 00:01:21 It's weird that we got to this point. It's a big year for us. If you watch the show on YouTube, you see that we got brand new studios, courtesy of the fan. The show has only grown larger. We've had a couple Marley's nights already. We just had a suite with some of our listeners. The Suite Life with Adam and Steve. We brought them all down to the Marley's game, and they provided us with drinks and pizza and nachos, and it was all delicious.
Starting point is 00:01:47 And we sat up in a box with a bunch of listeners. I never thought my life would reach that point. And it's been a pretty cool year, 2017. I think 2018 is only going to be better. 2017 wasn't a great year for the world, but this podcast did all right. It managed to scoot by under the radar from the shitstorm that was 2017. So thank you because the only reason we were able to scoot by was because of you, the listener, And you listening and telling your friends that you listen and them listening and us getting more listeners and you tweeting us and providing with us feedback and hitting up our Reddit page and commenting on the YouTube channel and being really aggressive to us in emails and sending us packages.
Starting point is 00:02:35 It's been a cool year. It's been a really, really cool year. Some would say that it's been dope or fresh. some would say that Steve, Adam, and myself really were lucky to get it this year. I think us homeboys really came through with some fresh kicks and were able to get it on this podcast. Anyways, we'll get right into the first clip, which is my favorite thing to ever happen on this podcast.
Starting point is 00:03:10 us playing back Bella Hadid going sneaker shopping and introducing the world the homeboys gonna like get it alright now Jesse this is something that we're gonna run on Kiss this afternoon
Starting point is 00:03:28 but we had to run it here because it's so funny can you explain what Bella Hadid is doing this has nothing to do with sports but there's some Nike shoes in it sports-ish Complex Magazine, which is a magazine and a website, they do a feature where they go sneaker shopping with celebrities. So they bring in a celebrity, and they go to a – it's an NYC sneaker shop that's really famous, and they have all the latest sneakers. And then this episode, they brought in Bella Hadid, who's a model with her sister Gigi, and they do modeling things.
Starting point is 00:03:58 And Bella knows a lot about the young kids these days and the slang they're using. Now, Bella is – How old is Bella Hadid? She's 21. She's younger than Jesse Wow Happy birthday Bella Hadid by the way The Weeknd's ex-girlfriend
Starting point is 00:04:12 Really? Yeah they dated for a while Now Bella did grow up rich So maybe that has some reason for this I don't think she has a lot of exposure to the streets And I think that kind of comes through And we'll throw that out there Sneakers on a man is definitely the first thing I look at
Starting point is 00:04:32 So if you're going to have a dope shoe that both guys and girls can wear I mean Perfect. Matching shoes, that's dope. What are some of your sneakers? So you get a little hint of it there, a little taste. Matching shoes, that's dope. Matching shoes, that is dope.
Starting point is 00:04:45 That's how many seconds in? That was 10 seconds in. Two dopes already. So matching shoes, that's dope. You sound like an alien running for president in The Simpsons. All right, let's keep going. Go ahead, throw your vote away. I'm Bella Hadid.
Starting point is 00:05:06 I voted for Crank. Don't blame me. I voted for Gigi. Your turn-offs, though. You know what? I'm cool with it, and I don't mind dirty sneakers, but they better be fresh. What does that mean, Bella? Dirty sneakers.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Let's rewind that a little bit here. I'm cool with it, but they better be fresh. Turn-offs, though. You know what? I'm cool with it, and I don't mind dirty sneakers, but they better be fresh. No. If Homeboy's coming through with these, it's quiet. Yeah, no, it's quiet.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Wait, what'd she say? If Homeboy's coming through with these, it's quiet. Oh, it... It means it's not popping because it's quiet. So it's not hot. If Homeboy's coming through with these, it's quiet. Yeah, no, it's quiet for him. Yeah, it's quiet for him.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Like, I'm not messing with him. It's quiet. Can we stop? I'm so uncomfortable. No. No. We still have 40 seconds. Why are you making me do this?
Starting point is 00:06:01 40 seconds to go, kids. How much time have we gone through? 21 seconds. That's horrible. No, I don't want that. No, no, no. No, I hate this stuff. No.
Starting point is 00:06:11 All right, all right. But, like, if he comes through in, like, beads, you got some Air Maxes out here, you got some Jordans, Homeboy's going to, like, get it. Homeboy's going to get it. Please stop. I want to get off the ride.
Starting point is 00:06:30 There's only 26 seconds left, guys. I mean, think about how long 26 seconds is. I want to know where in the small sneaker shop they put a teleprompter. I just want to know. It sounds like she's reading. He's going to get it. He's going to come through. Sorry, roll that back.
Starting point is 00:06:46 It's not he, though. It's homeboy. So here we go. Here we go. In, like, these, you got some Air Maxes out here. Yeah, out here. You got some Jordans. Homeboy is going to, like, get it.
Starting point is 00:07:02 She's not even comfortable saying get it Okay, like did you go over this with your agent in the car like in your in your big Lincoln Continental on the way over like Okay, so here's what gonna say homeboy dope get it. She's going to cue cards quiet. Sorry Bella. Do you got this one homeboy? Drop that reference. I've been I've been part of shoots Somewhat similar to this you mean free stuff shoots. Oh, yeah Yeah, that's not even what I meant. Yeah, you do things like that. Sort of, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:33 So there's several people there. There's probably a producer. There's definitely the cameraman, or woman. And there's the host. At least one of them, throughout the course of this interview, was like, I think we're, I think this is gold. I think we stumbled onto gold. And then they bring it back to the office and they start editing it.
Starting point is 00:07:52 And then the editor's like, yeah, no, this is pretty, we're about to go viral, yeah. Do they know that this is a train wreck? I think it is so awkward for them in that moment that they don't want to say anything. But they know it. Do you think they knew it? I don't know if I'd know. I'd feel uncomfortable about it. Do you think the people at Complex today are going, I don't understand what the big deal is?
Starting point is 00:08:12 They are popping and they are fire. We thought this was going to be quiet. Do you think Complex knew the reaction would be like this? I think after the fact, when they watched the video, they knew what she was doing. That this was going to be big. But in the moment, I don't think you could ever know. I do think it's funny. If you have someone like that, come on.
Starting point is 00:08:30 She's an internationally recognized supermodel. She's done a lot of incredible work. She's accomplished a lot for 21 years of age. She's fire. That's good. Do you think she would come through on this podcast? No, I don't. I think it'd be quiet.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Do you think she'd get it? So then she'd be like, I think it'd be, like, fresh but dirty. I mean, it's dirty, but it better be fresh. I wonder if, like, okay, so Complex has her on. She sounds like a mom explaining to her daughter that she's still hip. Is her agent and her, are her agent and her upset about the fact that this video makes her look pretty bad? Absolutely. And, like, Complex knew that.
Starting point is 00:09:18 If they knew that and they put it up, are you not a little mad at Complex? That is interesting. You've now made my client look bad. Okay. I think a good agent is more mad at her. Bella, who told you those were the right things to say? I bet it was the agent. I bet it was the agent.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Or are they just happy that she's got all this press? There it is. Jesse found it. Jesse found it. Man, I don't know. I don't. There's a lot of pride in the entertainment world. A lot of pride.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Even if. Listen, I know. Drake still gets made fun of for his accent. Totally. Justin Bieber. Sounds like he's from the South. You're from Stratford, dog. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Dog. It'd be better if he sounded like Shakespeare. Like, it would at least make more sense. He talks like Ray from Rodney, Ontario. And again, we've brought him up in the podcast. Google Ray from Rodney. That is what Justin Bieber should sound like. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:13 I just, I wonder in this if the agent's not a little upset. And even if you're not upset, you have to feign upset. because you can't allow your client to go out there and look terrible. Bella, I have to say, I saw your Complex interview and I must say it was arms. It was whack, yo.
Starting point is 00:10:32 We need to talk about how whack it was. I'm rewinding it to 22 seconds just so we can pick up where we left off. Like if he comes through in like these, you got some Air Maxes out here, you got some Jordans, homeboys can I like get it? Are you a big fan of, like, basketball sneakers?
Starting point is 00:10:50 Like, these Pippins and these are the old Jason kids. You know what? I love basketball sneakers, and I think they're some of the dopest shoes that Nike has. Okay. I think I... Jesse loves this. There's nobody that loves this more than Jesse. You might be loving this right now, but Jesse loves it more.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Since you are the connoisseur. No. I'm not Faisal. A little bit of a... No, not the sneaker connoisseur. Yes, we should definitely have Faisal in for that angle. Yeah. But the pop culture, like, you just eat this stuff up.
Starting point is 00:11:19 You get it. Sure. Now, where did this... Homeboy. Homeboy gets it. He's the one who's going to get it. Jesse comes through. If he comes through with those Air Maxes or some Jordans, Homeboy's going to, like, get it.
Starting point is 00:11:34 There's two approaches to this. Me writhing in agony and Adam kicking. He's actually so happy. Oh, that's awesome. Jesse, did this go wrong with her trying to sound cool? with her slang, or did it go wrong from the fact that she's uncomfortable with the subject matter of the interview? She sounds like she's given a book report.
Starting point is 00:11:54 The whole purpose of the interview is to show off, hey, I'm a regular person. I care about sneakers. I'm a celebrity, and I'm into fashion and sneakers. So you don't go on this show if you're not really about sneakers. The thing that makes this funny, it's not a character assassination of Bella Hadid. It's the fact that she's being inauthentic. That's why it's funny. It's one of those shows that I think is designed to be like,
Starting point is 00:12:18 yeah, see, I'm just one of the people. And she comes across as, yeah, a narc. I don't think Bella's ever walked into a Foot Locker and bought Air Maxes. No. No, because the Foot Locker would come to her. Exactly. Listen, I'm not bashing her circumstance. That was just her circumstance.
Starting point is 00:12:39 She came from an insanely rich family. She's done extremely well on her own. Nobody's taking anything away from her. But this is not a good fit. I would like to purchase one footwear, please. How many of your human earth dollars does that cost? Thank you. My name is Bella Hadid.
Starting point is 00:12:55 And I am all about the Benjamins. Yes, baby. All right. All right. Ready, ready, ready. We're almost there. It's not even done. We're almost there, guys.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Are you a big fan of, like, basketball sneakers? Like, these Pippins and these are the old Jason kids. You know what? I love basketball sneakers, and I think they're some of the dopest shoes that Nike has. But, I mean, I already picked these out. We're going for these. Those are coming home with you. These are coming home with me.
Starting point is 00:13:22 You're going to put these with the black dress, you're going to look sexy as shit. So, you're going to kill it. Slip-ons over there, I don't know. I don't know if we're going to. Yeah, that's a no-go. It's a no-go for me. I feel bad for her. You know what was my favorite part?
Starting point is 00:13:33 I feel bad. I want to rewind to just one second 41 here. Doesn't it sound like she's answering a question on a book report? They're some of the dopest shoes that Nike has, but... Hold on, hold on. I mean, I already put basketball sneakers like these... As someone who gave book reports to books I didn't read, yeah, no, that's what it sounds like. It sounds like, it's like, you know, it's like, describe when Atticus did blah-biddy-blah-biddy-blah.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Well, Atticus did blah-biddy-blah-biddy-blah when, you know, like, you know what I mean? And that's how she came across. I also read To Kill a Mockingbird. Yes, thank you. He was a lawyer. Basketball sneakers, like these Pippins and these are the old Jason kids. You know what? I love basketball sneakers, and I think they're some of the dopest shoes that Nike has. Like, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:14:12 Who refers to them as basketball sneakers? I don't know, because they're sneaker heads. But, like, I don't know, man. We need Faisal. We need Faisal in on this. I think there's another layer we can go. Faze doggy dog. We should get him in on this. The Faze dog. We need Faze boy. Faze homeboy.
Starting point is 00:14:30 I'm just trying to sound as white as Bella Hadid. Oh my goodness. If you ever wanted somebody to disappoint you, I recommend you call Steve Dangle. All right, all right, chill, chill. You know I love Steve. But in some instances, like in this one, when he refuses to pay $1 extra for his car
Starting point is 00:14:54 and then ends up paying $1 extra for his car, you realize that he has the same personality as Iggy and they're both just cute little puppy dogs i actually i was hard to win one i was a dick about something once when i bought my car one and only car and i i remember just i don't know it was only 2011 i didn't have that much money um and i just remember i'd been laid off a bunch of times and i didn't want to be dicked around or anything and they changed something with the financing or the taxes or something along those lines and they said like laughing on the phone they're like okay so the price of the car has gone up a dollar and i just went no really yeah and the person on the
Starting point is 00:15:42 other side of the phone went steve that's not fair and i just went why did the price change i was that much of a hard ass about it but i remember was it a dollar a month or just a dollar overall it was literally an extra dollar on the entire car and i said no i was just i would i just wanted to be a dick okay no i'm already giving you so much more of my money what's the dollar if it's going up a dollar then how about you eat the dollar you're right i'm buying a new car off of you i'm not wrong on principle steve is very right absolutely and that's what i wanted to be stubborn about it and then that was my way of going fuck you I'm in business
Starting point is 00:16:21 I ended up paying the dollar that was great until the end I think I did I don't know it was never about the dollar that story was like the Sopranos great until the end don't stop
Starting point is 00:16:38 and then I gave in what no well I think well it's like you in the apartment You know, there was a talking back and forth. No, there wasn't really a back and forth with me. I wasn't stubborn. And they're like, well, then you don't get the car.
Starting point is 00:16:54 I can't remember. Now I don't even remember. Maybe they waived it. I don't remember. All I know is, yeah, I actually made it into like a five or ten minute argument that didn't need to happen. But I was like, you know what? I'm buying a new car. Sounds like you were having a bad day.
Starting point is 00:17:08 It sounds like you were hungry or something. Oh, my God. You know how many other days I would have like giggled along and gone, ha, sure. What's another dollar? But I was like, fuck you, I'm buying a brand new car You're charging me an extra dollar? Kiss my ass Every time we get an angry tweet about something bad
Starting point is 00:17:24 I'm like, that person maybe hates me Or maybe they're having a bad day and they'll be back tomorrow And they'll be a little nicer Usually, it's the latter You should have walked away from that You should have threatened to walk away And not paid that damn dollar Not, oh yeah, it's okay
Starting point is 00:17:39 Take your Mazda, I'm going to Honda If I was a little older And more collected I would have said something along the lines of I'm buying a new car off you Can you just eat the dollar But I think instead what I said was No that's not the price we agreed to
Starting point is 00:17:56 Did you get good service there Were they nice to you So they're super nice to you And they were really accommodating And they're helping you out And you were a dick about a dollar Dude I was 23 I was doing an impression Of a real adult
Starting point is 00:18:11 You know what I mean Steve watches the Glenn Gary, Glenn Ross thing on YouTube once, and he's like, no, you have to have brass balls. You see this watch? This is for closers. No, coffee is for closers. Hi, my name's Karen. I'm here to sell you a car.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Coffee? And I slap the coffee out of her hands. Goes flying across the room, scalds one of the other salesmen. I go, coffee's for closers only. See this watch? It's worth more than your car. The negotiation lasts eight minutes. I got an Oscar for it.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Yeah, you should get an Oscar for that story, and never tell anyone the ending again. Yeah. No. Next time you tell that story, don't tell anyone. They gave me the car for free! Mazda won, man. They won. See, I don't even remember if they got the dollar.
Starting point is 00:18:57 I honestly don't. Did you hold back the dollar? I don't. No. Oh, yeah? It's $280 a month? I'm gonna pay you $279. Motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:19:05 I'll never forget the person. Da-da-da-da-da. It's the... Steve, that's not fair. it's it's not i thought the customer was always right oh anyway i was just being a dick the reason i asked this i wish you held on the reason i might have i don't remember it was six years ago over six years ago quick aside before we continue the best of every time we do one of these all i want to do is play sorry for the clip show from that classic simpsons episode and we can't because
Starting point is 00:19:36 copyright laws exist. And every time I remember that I want to play it and then I remember that I can't, I get a little sad. So I'm a little sad right now. But the next clip, I'm going to listen back to it after I record this intro. It's going to make me a lot happier because we're going to talk about two of the most iconic greatest television shows ever pokemon and dragon ball z adam could not be more wrong about everything but including this dragon ball z is easily one of the greatest shows of all time and pokemon is right up there with it and here we are discussing our childhood dying when we learn that pikachu can talk normally when you have a pokemon The Pokemon repeats its name
Starting point is 00:20:31 That's how it talks But that's all it does Pikachu says Pikachu You know, Koffing says Koffing Weezing says Weezing Ekans says Ekans Snake backwards Wait, what does Charmander say?
Starting point is 00:20:43 Charmander Charmander! What does Bulbasaur say? Bulbasaur So you're getting the point, right? What about Squirtle? Squirtle Oh my goodness
Starting point is 00:20:50 So you're getting the point, right? Crazy You're getting the point Bulbasaur No, I can't do Bulbasaur Since 95, since this came out So it's like 22 years of Pokemon Oh shit, really?
Starting point is 00:20:58 We have known what they do, except now there's a new Pokemon movie, and they've changed that forever. Jesse, what are we about to listen to? We are about to listen to— Oh, don't make me listen to it again. I actually turned it off the second he started. Oh. We are about to listen to a scene from the movie, Pokemon the movie, I Choose You. Apparently, it's towards the end of the movie.
Starting point is 00:21:25 It's the only time it happens. And Pikachu speaks English. Pikachu, why won't you get in the Pokeball? It's because... It's because I always want to be with you. Can we play that one more time? It's so disturbing! I want to play it for the guy
Starting point is 00:22:07 who is all of us. Here it comes. If you know English, why are you talking like that? Here it is. Listen, listen. It's because That is me.
Starting point is 00:22:33 That is me. Now, please tell me that that is like a hallucination Ash is having. So, are you about to tell me that? People are interpreting it as this is a dream sequence, or that's kind of what Ash is imagining Pikachu is saying. It has to be. So they're taking, like, creative license with that little scene. But in the scene, in the movie, it happens flat.
Starting point is 00:23:01 It happens in reality. But people are saying it's what Ash is imagining Pikachu is telling him right now. Now, there's a couple things about that that I take issue with. First off, Pikachu's voice speaking English is the creepiest, weirdest thing I've ever heard. That is weird. I just want to be with you, Ash. Turn off the lights and play that without watching it. Absolutely do not.
Starting point is 00:23:24 That's terrifying. That is a horror movie Second thing, that is not true Pikachu is a lying, dirty rat A dirty rat It's an electrical mouse Okay, well, a lying, dirty rodent, shall we say Because, if you remember the beginning
Starting point is 00:23:39 Which I do, Pikachu was just being a jerk And just wouldn't do what Ash wanted him to do That's true, he didn't want to be with Ash at the beginning So it has nothing to do with him wanting to be with Ash So he's straight up lying to his friend Maybe Pikachu needs to come clean So then maybe it is what Ash is interpreting Maybe it's actually a hallucination
Starting point is 00:23:57 Because it's not the truth Maybe because you're saying, I really fucking hate you And want you to die Why won't you die, Ash? Ash, it's because When you think about it, it's really fucked up That you guys keep us in balls And you don't like it in there
Starting point is 00:24:13 And don't you ever think about what happens When you leave us in there for days at a time What if I gotta take a piss or a shit, I'm hungry And in reality, what's coming out is Peacock shirt Yeah, that's it Also, animal fighting. Oh, yeah!
Starting point is 00:24:28 Why Pokemon is problematic. There was an article on why Pokemon was problematic, and how it encouraged animal fighting, and people were- It was the one time I've seen the internet go, you know, too far. Pikachu. Eyes on the prize here. Eyes on the prize.
Starting point is 00:24:46 I think Berkshire and I worked this out. Okay. We worked it out. a couple shows very important to our childhoods in absence of girls uh one of them was pokemon yes now do you remember the first movie yes yeah because that happened when you were like can we just talk about the fact that that movie was so disappointing why do they always have to have these emotional sad endings why can't it just be badass yeah pokemon needs to be badass oh my god and they always have to have emotional crappy sequences like that no man
Starting point is 00:25:20 No, so he loses right in the what's it called the but like mewtwo and mew like oh I forget the name of the league There's like masters. Yeah, Pokemon masters. I don't remember and that's that Wow I'm getting old and I feel sad, but so in the video game you go there and you win and You get all the badges and you're a Pokemon master now Wow But then you lose in the movie, which is a continuation of the show, if I'm not mistaken. So for me, here's Pokemon as the 29-year-old man.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Here's Pokemon. Red and blue. Yellow. Yellow never happened. What? Yeah, no. Yellow never happened. Yellow never happened.
Starting point is 00:26:07 I had yellow. I liked it. It should be called Pokemon the cartoon, the video game. It never happened. It basically was the same game. They just added Pikachu. Yes. That's bullshit.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Correct. Never happened. And then there was the show that led up to the movie. And then it's like the show walked into another room. And you had to be under a certain age to go into the next room with it. And I didn't make it through. I didn't either. So that's how the show ended.
Starting point is 00:26:42 That's how the video game ended. And to me, it was perfect. the other show is dragon ball z the frieza saga is excellent cell it had its moments where it lulled but it was okay as berkshire and i agreed on the gohan ending was badass then there's majin buu which i was less crazy about but the second majin buu is defeated dragon ball z ends but what about dragon ball this and dragon ball that and dragon ball that no dragon ball and they all live happily ever after amen you know it's awesome what the amount of people who are listening to this and it sounds like you're speaking like
Starting point is 00:27:31 i'm one of them i have no idea what he's talking about yeah there's a lot of people who didn't watch dragon ball not beyond you know how many people are in the car with their kids right now and they're going trans like this for me ignore the part where you said legal punch in the mouth and said fuck a bunch of times. You're speaking a different language to a lot of people. Am I to you? Some of it, because I don't remember. I've seen every Dragon Ball Z, but I don't remember most of it.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Okay, remember the green bug guy who would sting you and suck out your life force? Sure. Okay, so that was Cell. Remember Majin Buu? Adam, have you seen any of Dragon Ball Z? I've seen Angry Muscly Kirby. Here's where I got mad at this show.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Literally for 10 or 15 episodes in a row I tried to watch And it was during the Frieza thing And all it is is training Next time on Dragon Ball Z Next time after next time And it's just
Starting point is 00:28:25 Fires one shot Dust clears Ha it wasn't enough After three episodes And you're like finally that freaking brain thing is dead No No, it was it was the brain thing Frieza That's I called him that person weren't a fan
Starting point is 00:28:42 I wasn't a fan because I knew even at 11 years old that I was being duped Yeah, I was waiting you were a little too old. Okay, it was Story and they stretched it out over 45 episodes. It was a very slow paced show it was but the long and short term storytelling master class that is Frieza killing Krillin and Goku getting angry and going
Starting point is 00:29:13 Super Saiyan is unmatched in television history! The best episode of any show ever! Are we hanging out on Saturday? I'm bringing all of Dragon Balls. Do you have it? Yeah, I got a torrent of it. But... We need Dragon Ball TV! You mean you paid legally for it?
Starting point is 00:29:29 I have the DVD! That's right, you do. so we're gonna watch all night and literally get into it we're gonna watch Tremble Zeon
Starting point is 00:29:36 show me we're gonna literally it's gonna start and be like okay oh no Krillin died I'm gonna go
Starting point is 00:29:40 Super Saiyan and by noon the next day if we watch all episodes back to back we might get to Frieza and
Starting point is 00:29:45 Goku actually facing each other there's gotta be you can skip five episodes at a time you didn't miss
Starting point is 00:29:51 a damn thing Adam's not wrong that's the sad thing what's the Star Wars oh he's oh he's but you're doing pushups upside down
Starting point is 00:29:57 but you did do not talk shit about the Jinger 1,000 but the The show was about fighting. Do not talk shit about Vegeta. The show was about fighting.
Starting point is 00:30:09 You needed to show the workouts. It was essential. He was getting better. Speaking of Vegeta's, can we order those on Saturday night when we hang out? Oh, my God. Those are delicious. Pronounce vagina. That's how Peter Griffin said it.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Kakarot. No, you can't. I'm so angry. And then what's the bald guy's name? Krillin krillin yeah, and he's like dead and he's on the other world where he's not dead But he can come back a couple times, but he's already died twice We can't come back so we just walking around on that planet with like nothing to do and yet they spend the entire show on him So he's dead be dead move on no
Starting point is 00:30:51 You got to watch someone avenge your death. Yeah, would you not watch you're tuning into that? You're not like, oh, Will and Grace is on. You're going to watch that guy beat up Frieza. I don't need to watch someone watching someone getting their death abandoned. Oh, my God. Of all the wrong things you have ever said. Steve. Of all the wrong things.
Starting point is 00:31:14 I'm so angry. You're taking a shit on my childhood right now is what you're doing. Lots of people didn't like Dragon Ball. Yeah, and you know what? And they were all wrong. All of them. You could have completed the season. The season, if it was, listen, I'll give you this.
Starting point is 00:31:27 If it was done in 10 episodes it would have been fantastic The entire thing But the fact that it took from 1998 To 2002 for Frieza To finally go down Is a little much It's like it's just too much Are they still making new episodes?
Starting point is 00:31:42 Oh fuck yeah they are It's like Power Rangers Brawley does not exist It ended at Majin Buu arguably sell Brawley does not exist Stop all that shit And he's Super Saiyan 7 with the extra long hair and he turns into a...
Starting point is 00:31:57 Stop! What upset me was when they added on the next layers of Super Saiyan. Because it was okay. Now you're Super Duper Saiyan! Yeah! Yes!
Starting point is 00:32:06 And I'm Super Duper Saiyan! That sucks! Then I was like, alright, I'm up 12. I can tap out. Super Saiyan 2, Super Saiyan 3. You could argue it ends at Frieza.
Starting point is 00:32:16 Yeah, because he was Super Saiyan. You can't just add, oh, now he's more Super Saiyan. No. I'm too old for this. Yeah. No, I agree. No, this definitely isn't
Starting point is 00:32:26 your final form because, of course it's not. It's Dragon Ball Z. It just never ends? You're just going to keep adding one, two, three? Like, no. He is a Super Saiyan
Starting point is 00:32:34 to the power of 100. Oh my goodness. It's, it's, yeah. Back to the gravity chamber. Some shows write themselves into a corner where, oh, there's nowhere to go. But with Dragon Ball,
Starting point is 00:32:43 they write themselves into a corner where it's eternity. It's just, it, limitless. Yeah. Super Saiyan 7. What's different about them? Their hair goes black.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Wait, his hair's already black. Never mind that! It goes from black to blonde to black. Their eyes are kind of red. So the Saiyan Saga. It changes his shirt. Stupid. The Saiyan Saga, 39 episodes, started in 1989, lasted until March 1990.
Starting point is 00:33:12 And then they moved on to the... Saiyan Saga's good. Can you read these for me? Thank you. Jesus. I can't speak your language, Steve. Saiyan Saga goes from... Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:33:24 That's how old Dragon Ball Z is? Yeah. We were watching it 10 years later. I had no idea. That's insane. Yeah. It goes from April 26, 1989 to March 7, 1990. Namek and Captain Ginyu sagas, March 14, 1990 to January 16, 1991.
Starting point is 00:33:43 The Frieza saga. Oh, my God. I had no idea we were watching old shows. We were watching it 10 years later. I watched that in like 2013. I honestly had no idea. The Frieza Saga January 23rd
Starting point is 00:33:55 1991 To September 11th 1991 And every single day That year there was an episode Yeah Garlic Jr. Trunks
Starting point is 00:34:01 And Android Saga September 18th 1991 I remember the Android Saga Yeah That sounds terrible by the way 1992 They were good
Starting point is 00:34:09 You're wrong Were they better than Frieza? They're just robots That are better than Frieza For no reason We haven't even We haven't even gotten to No here
Starting point is 00:34:15 We're not even halfway through This is so boring Come on Imperfect Cell And Perfect Cell Sagas May 20th To November 18th 1992
Starting point is 00:34:22 I was finally born We're in the middle of the Cell Saga Jesse was just born Gretzky has not high-sticked Doug Gilmore yet Cell Games Saga November 25th, 1992 to July 21st, 1993 Great
Starting point is 00:34:39 Saiyaman and World Tournament, see now we're getting into this goofy shit where I was like, okay I'll tune in sometimes July 93 to March 94 babidi and majin buu sagas march 94 to january 95 and fusion and kid buu sagas february 95 to january 96 i also don't like that it divided i don't like how the sagas are divided when the androids show up that's the cell saga then when he dies that's the end of the cell saga
Starting point is 00:35:18 There aren't three cell sagas There aren't two Majin Buu sagas Adam It's Majin Buu Do you think if we left Steve in a room With a Dragon Ball Z Wikipedia page Which is by the way Many many pages
Starting point is 00:35:34 Oh I'm sure Do you think he could do a two hour Eight hour podcast by himself Why would you leave me with If you left me with a closed laptop I could do it Well and it seems like that's perfect for you and Berkshire because you guys like nerdy shit that no one cares about?
Starting point is 00:35:50 You like Star Wars! Yeah! Guys, everybody cares about Star Wars. Would Star Wars have had... Would Star Wars have had... That's a Trump card. Hold on. No, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:36:02 Hit that out of the park. Would Star Wars have had the most downvoted comment in history on Reddit if people didn't care about it? I don't think so. That's the nerdiest thing you've ever said. Yes, thank you. Thank you. But I'm not wrong.
Starting point is 00:36:14 I got the numbers. You are wrong. It's nerdy numbers. You know what I was coming at you with all this Kamehameha stuff And you just spirit bombed my nerdiness Just saying I'm right he did yeah He's he's summon energy from all living things by the way battlefront 2 sort of ripoff, but also wicked fun So you know heard yeah? Also, correct nerd, but also crazy much fun. Here's here's the equivalent imagine buying Super Mario 4 like they just came out with a new Super Mario and you had to
Starting point is 00:36:45 unlock Mario for $60 that's shitty but you know what I gotta say people are upset about that EA responded and made it a lot easier to unlock Darth Vader Luke Skywalker after they were for sure which is I mean listen I don't think it should have taken a comment five hundred thousand and on it was five hundred it's It's up to $500,000 now. I've never seen that before. It's literally never happened. It's never happened.
Starting point is 00:37:11 That's a lot you've never seen. Ever. All the things on Reddit ever, that's the most downvoted. Now, what's interesting about it is they made it a lot easier. How much did we spend on Dread? No, no, I'm just throwing this out there. Let's keep going. So you're right.
Starting point is 00:37:24 So I think it takes 15,000 credits to unlock Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker, and another 15,000 to do the other one. So are you playing as the guy, or are you, like, cursing them? Well, you're playing as, you're playing as, like, you know, it's a fight, right? So it's like a first-person shooter, but during the game. Oh, so it's not Mortal Kombat. No, no, no, no. This is like Call of Duty.
Starting point is 00:37:46 That's the unlocking we're used to. Yeah, yeah. That's what I was thinking. But if during the game, you can get upgrades. So if you, let's say you have a 2,000-point takedown and then you die, when you respawn, you can have, you can be in a better vehicle, you can be a better player, you can be a Jedi or something like that, and Jedi are fucking unstoppable, right? I don't like the upgrades you buy.
Starting point is 00:38:03 So it's Call of Duty-like. Are you playing through the campaign to unlock these guys? I'm doing some of that, too, and multiplayer. It's both. Better question, is there a campaign? Yes, and it's great. This last time, there was not. I started playing it, and it's really well done.
Starting point is 00:38:18 But what the interesting thing is, and by the way, the campaign is canon. It's a part of the story. So they actually made it as a continuation of one of the movies. That's cool. Isn't that amazing? So that's a great idea, right? They did a great job there. My thing is, I'm at 11,000 credits already, and I've only played two hours.
Starting point is 00:38:36 So it's not that. And how much does it cost to unlock these guys? It costs 80 bucks. No, no, how many credits? Oh, 15,000. So you can do it without pay? Before, it was going to be 40,000 per character. Now it's 15,000 per character.
Starting point is 00:38:52 So they made it a lot easier. I think in games like this, I agree, you should not have to unlock main characters. What you should have to unlock is upgrades Better guns And that's how the last game worked It was never about, I mean you unlocked better skins and stuff But it was never about unlocking Darth Vader You could always be Darth Vader
Starting point is 00:39:09 It was just, this one it's like To have better guns, to have better abilities That should be the stuff you unlock Not the character If I want to be my boy Darth Vader I want to be my fucking boy Darth Vader So I was sort of talking to Adam about this So I've gotten the special edition
Starting point is 00:39:27 Of a lot of the NHL games So they'll give you like Two extra gold packs For Hutt Every week So everyone who got The advanced copies Had like an unfair advantage
Starting point is 00:39:40 That's a lot of the YouTubers Yeah you start off There's the regular one That's like 69 retail And then if you pay For the Stanley Cup version Or the gold version They call it
Starting point is 00:39:48 It's like $100 But you get all those Extra stuff Full disclosure I bought the Stanley Cup Version of Star Wars I bought the deluxe edition But you know what
Starting point is 00:39:55 It's my one fucking game So I'm doing it And that's fine So I had an unfair advantage over people But I wouldn't pay for extra shit I was in level 10 of Hutt That's the shittiest You're just starting one
Starting point is 00:40:07 You open up your starter pack Ryan Reeves was on my first line I was playing against some fucking kid Who top line Was Bure As in Pavel Bure Not even Valerie Pavel Bure
Starting point is 00:40:23 On the left Of Datsuk And I want to say Kovalchuk And that's because he has Probably his parents credit card Yeah because you couldn't possibly be In tier 10 I was happy to just score a goal on him
Starting point is 00:40:40 I lost, how did you beat him? I'm like no Well you have to be Some kind of bad to lose to My shit team It's like you know you ever play Team Canada versus Italy just for fun Build up your confidence I play OHL
Starting point is 00:40:56 teams versus NHL teams all the time and just to like train yeah yeah it's fun that's what I like to play well it's like why I play the campaign modes in in super hard I was playing the campaign mode this morning it's as hard as possible and by the way whatever campaign mode like they've got it on like I've got it on the super hard level
Starting point is 00:41:12 I'm walking through it like it's nothing because online is so much harder which is why it always is people are just so good so um anyway I think it's better is it perfect no but if you've ever owned an EA game you know what they're about That's sort of part of their business plan,
Starting point is 00:41:28 and that's why Star Wars went with them to develop them and DICE is because they got a great business plan. They make a pile of money. I do know people that have spent $400 on this game. Now, that is crazy to me. At a certain point, yeah, just grind it out and earn it. And I know, like, listen, man, I'm a grown man.
Starting point is 00:41:47 I don't have 40 hours a week to play on these games. I get it. And if you're a YouTuber and Battlefront's what you do, it makes financial sense to buy everything. Just buy a tax write-off. Totally. You're not even paying for it. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:41:59 You're not wrong. No. You're not wrong. But for me, it's like, okay, there is a sense of achievement when I do unlock things. I just don't think main characters need to be the thing you unlock. That's just my thing. You know on Google Maps how you can avoid toll roads? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:11 You should be able to play Battlefront and be like, I want to avoid people who bought shit. You don't want to go on and just get fucking creamed. But you don't. You still don't. If you're good enough, you'll be all right. You may not be top of the board What if I'm 13 and just got the game for Christmas Last night I was playing guys
Starting point is 00:42:29 Who were Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader and all that stuff Who clearly paid to be there Because the game dropped at 11pm last night And I was on it at 11.01 Is that what it came out last night? I thought this had been out No, there was a beta But it was for like 7 days we could play
Starting point is 00:42:45 And none of the stats by the way They said that they would But none of the stats that we accumulated during our beta rolled over So I made it to level 10 I played a whole bunch. I'm like, I got to get level 10. I got to get there. And I got there, and fucking none of it counts.
Starting point is 00:42:58 29-year-old man getting married in two months. Anyway. By the way. But I was still, I had a game last night. My first game, I had 28 kills, and I was top five on the board. So you can do it. You just have to be good at it. And remember, this is my one game.
Starting point is 00:43:13 It's my one thing. And I'm not even really great at it, but I'm good. Get good. Two things. Do you put out your PSN ID? It's Adam Wiles. So if anyone wants to play Adam, there you go. And target him and kill him over and over again.
Starting point is 00:43:26 Second thing. And teabag his body. 2K. Can't do that in this game. 2K the basketball game this year. They hit the bonus edition out of the park this year because they had a legend edition. They called it legend edition gold, which is better than the legend edition regular. Regular.
Starting point is 00:43:42 That is super saiyan edition. And one game costs $199. Wait a second. What what are you doing in it? So so you just get all the bonus content? Oh That's it So you if you want $200 flat for their legend edition of their NBA 2k game this year you get every bonus content You know what I might I would do that for Star Wars because I'm gonna play this game for two more years There's a single video game on the face of that planet. I can't if you add
Starting point is 00:44:15 Dollars to that you get a new console Yeah Alright well that's different However I get a console But like I don't play anything else This is what I play So if you buy two video games
Starting point is 00:44:25 And you play them For half of a year each I buy one video game I play it for two years I've been playing Battlefront 1 Since it came out I've been playing it for That's my game
Starting point is 00:44:34 So it's worth it for me If they did that But they're not doing that If NBA 2K was your only game You could drop $200 on it I just want all this out there For when I have kids And they're like
Starting point is 00:44:44 Dad can I have And I can very quickly go No you're not going to college yeah because we spent money on our video do you want employment or do you want the red lightsaber right that's actually i'm kind of concerned about that like there's stories about people's you know they're it's dad's ps4 but the kids get on and they just buy a bunch of shit and like you know because you can and i think it happens on iphones too
Starting point is 00:45:13 The kids know their parents password or whatever And they just start buying stuff It's like that South Park episode Like oh it's just a couple micro pays $20,000 on Canada And then they gotta go to Canada It's a Canadian devil So much of Adam's job is just containing Steve
Starting point is 00:45:31 Just keeping him on a On a slight Kind of path down A sort of road So he kind of just does an 18 wheeler Off of a cliff like so many Leafs teams we know. But sometimes Adam can't rail Steve in
Starting point is 00:45:49 and we get moments like this when Steve bans Gary Bettman from our show and calls him a dick about 847,000 times in the span of a couple minutes. It's wonderful. Take a listen. From 31 Thoughts from Elliot Friedman, there's a couple things
Starting point is 00:46:04 and I thought this is great. It's throwing me off that it's called that. Rarely do you, yeah, it still throws me off too. Rarely do you hear Elliot get exasperated about anything. Oh, boy. What is it? But I saw two points and 31 thoughts this week that he was clearly fed up.
Starting point is 00:46:21 Was it about Twitter? No. Oh, because he does not like Twitter. No, I know he doesn't. He actually told us on this show a couple years ago he doesn't even read the replies. That's true. That's true. He just kind of retweets people he follows.
Starting point is 00:46:31 I think he's a dirty liar. I think anyone who says that is a dirty liar. Well in his case At that level Like you think about it He's got what Half a million followers He couldn't possibly
Starting point is 00:46:41 Like read them And have a conversation No But if you get like To half a million followers You imagine The just Just per capita
Starting point is 00:46:49 Amount of shit Like hate Yeah Think of how many jerks You've ever met In your entire life Now put that on the scale Of half a million people
Starting point is 00:46:57 And sports jerks And sports jerks Yes Which are intense Yes Alright What were his two things Okay
Starting point is 00:47:03 So, exasperated Elliot, number one. I'm going to read directly. The NHL and the NHLPA's next face-to-face meeting about the international calendar is Thursday in Toronto. So, today, right here in Toronto. It's a gray, kind of stormy day. So, you would think that the negotiations might be a little bit testy because people are a little testy today. Bedman's in town. Yes.
Starting point is 00:47:23 He brought in the clouds. There is some question about whether or not everyone wants to go back to China because this time around it didn't make money. Now, he puts in brackets, the promoter takes the risk on that, not the league or the union. So it's the promoter that lost money. Here's where Elliott gets exasperated. I can't even believe this is an issue. Can Elliott not even? Elliott cannot even.
Starting point is 00:47:47 That's amazing. He said, you're going to go once and give up four years from the Olympics? I'd like to see them go to France and Germany, too, since the world championships were just there. the people who run the NHL are stupid. Can we just say it? Like, can we just say it? Like, Elliott Freeman is far too classy to say these sorts of things. He's exasperated.
Starting point is 00:48:13 But since we're from Scarborough and therefore the gutter, we'll say it. Yeah, no. The people who run this league are morons. They're greedy, out to lunch, don't understand how the world works morons. They're dumb. They're stupid. They don't know what they're doing. Well, they did make a lot of money being that, though.
Starting point is 00:48:31 No. Well, anybody that can afford to own an NHL team. Not in hockey. Not in hockey. No, no, no. If you can afford to own an NHL team, you made money somewhere else. Okay, they're moronic when it comes to hockey, though. I don't give a shit how you made your money.
Starting point is 00:48:46 You own a hockey team. But I'm going to sue my dad for $100 million for my inheritance money. Like, if you, if you, if someone, if some crazy billionaire worth $75 billion bought the Leafs and then turned it to shit, like, I don't care how you made your $75 billion. I'm a Leafs fan. I'm sorry, do you mean Harold Ballard? And my team sucks now because of you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:10 So, I don't know. I'm just, I don't care how you made your money. It's irrelevant to me. I'm a hockey fan. Can you make my hockey team good? And can you grow the game? Can you grow the game? Which is in your interest.
Starting point is 00:49:23 Yes. Your business interest. Yes. Oh, it didn't make money. That wasn't the point, dickhead! You go to China to build the- Oh, really? You didn't make money at the games where before the game you had someone get on the intercom
Starting point is 00:49:39 and tell everyone watching the rules? Really? That wasn't profitable for you, you dick. Of course it didn't make money. You're trying to build the game. They don't know the fucking thing. That's why you're there dick You're trying to promote it for when four years from now because they didn't watch it at the fucking Olympics in Korea because you're not Going you're trying to teach them the sports you dig Which is that is Friedman's subtext. He's just a classier person than me
Starting point is 00:50:17 And also, Friedman has to talk to these guys. I don't. I never want to meet Gary Bettman. There's plenty of AIs I can talk to. When we have Gary on this show, I'll play him that clip. No, he's not allowed to come on the show. Like, I don't care. That's right.
Starting point is 00:50:30 You're banned. I'm locking you out. Gary Bettman, lock it. You can't come on the show. Did we just ban Gary Bettman from our show? Yes, we did. Steve did. Remember, I think it's a democracy here, though.
Starting point is 00:50:40 I think Steve speaks for all of us. If I have to have a one-on-one conversation, conversation with Gary bem and I think I'd have a stroke like I really do like I think just for how mad the doctor said your blood pressure is fantastic no did you know your ears no yes I did I have like supersonic hearing today and I'm listening to how loud I am and it's scaring myself no it's didn't make money you're a dick like you're so stupid well I'll tell you I'm sorry everyone who's trying to listen to this with kids in the car but so it's is he banned or not
Starting point is 00:51:15 No. Yes, he's banned. No. I'd love to have a conversation. Listen, I disagree with just about everything the man says, but I'd still like to talk to him. Pulling the name on the show card, he's banned. He's banned. He's banned.
Starting point is 00:51:25 I am not for the ban. He would never come on this show. I'm just saying I've submitted my vote. I would love to have Gary Bettman on the show. Gary, if you're listening, you're welcome to come on. Love to interview you. Disagree with you, but would be able to have a conversation with you. Steve couldn't.
Starting point is 00:51:39 I think Steve absolutely could. I think Steve's a little heated right now, but I think he'd be fine. That would cause you know, how many people listen to this to get away from driving and they would just Mass deaths Thousands of people kill themselves across the country listening to Gary Bettman dr. Steve Beck We post a podcast afterwards, zero listens, everybody's dead. Because everybody dies listening to it. You know how many people listen to this on the subway?
Starting point is 00:52:19 Okay, this is going to be what the people around them hear the day after. Oh, fuck off! They're just going to be sitting there randomly swearing to themselves with a mad look on their face. They're going to be sitting there with a mad look on their face, and they're going to be accidentally staring through someone. And that someone is going to think that they're staring at them, and then they're going to punch them in the face. and it's going to change her entire life because we had Gary Bettman on the show, Adam. I'm not going to risk it.
Starting point is 00:52:44 I like our listeners too much. Sorry, Jesse. Steve could have a conversation with Gary Bettman. I think he could. And I think he would be very respectful. Yes. No, my first question, Gary, what was the last authentic thing you said?
Starting point is 00:52:54 Remember what Ron said. Ron McLean. Yeah. He's a lawyer. He speaks like a lawyer. Yeah, like a dick. Like, say something that means anything ever once. I'm just waiting for the tweet from the lawyer.
Starting point is 00:53:05 Hey, lawyer here. Paid to be a dick. It's my job. And Gary Bevin gets paid quite well to be a dick, as does Roger Goodell. Good. That doesn't make him a great person. That doesn't make him a smart person. Actually, although I would take Adam Silver or any of those yahoos.
Starting point is 00:53:17 I love him. I don't care. What better way to end this episode than with the ultimate ending? The Leafs winning the Stanley Cup. Like, sometimes I think about it and I get a little teary-eyed. I'm going to be really honest right here. It's a scary thing Because you fear that moment
Starting point is 00:53:40 Because you don't know what it's going to be when it happens It's the unknown It's the impossible I want to talk to a diehard Chicago Cubs fan And ask them what it felt like What it truly felt like for a franchise That seemingly couldn't do it To finally do it
Starting point is 00:53:59 I don't know what's going to happen to Steve I don't know what's going to happen to Adam I don't know if they'll survive the night, but here they are calling Game 7 a Stanley Cup final when the Leafs beat the Golden Knights, which actually isn't a far-fetched Stanley Cup final when you look at the standings right now. That's so crazy to say. I'll see you on Thursday with the next round of best ofs. I hope you enjoyed this.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Tweet me at Jesse Blake for what clips you want to see in Thursday's episode. I haven't completed it yet So there's still time If you want to tweet me Instagram me Jesse.Blake on Instagram And then hit me up And tell me what clips
Starting point is 00:54:39 You want to see on Thursday Cool Peace Bye This week Was the 25th anniversary Of Joe Carter's
Starting point is 00:54:47 Walk-off home run In Toronto 25th? 20 I'm 93 So 24th anniversary Yeah Yes
Starting point is 00:54:54 I think it was Alright It was 93 92 That's a long time ago It was the anniversary Yes Of Joe Carter
Starting point is 00:55:00 So Say it, Adam So, I gotta pull off it What did he do with that home run? He brought the World Series back to Toronto Touch them all, Joe You'll never hit a bigger home run in your life So, I'll give you guys a moment to think
Starting point is 00:55:15 But Oh, man It is Game 7 Of the Stanley Cup Finals Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Edmonton Oilers Vegas Golden Knights
Starting point is 00:55:25 Vegas Golden Knights Austin Matthews scores in overtime to win the Stanley Cup. You are the play-by-play announcer. I'm going to play a goal horn, and you must come up with your line for the Game 7 clinching overtime goal. I'll give you a second while I pull up a goal horn.
Starting point is 00:55:48 But have your line ready, Mr. Play-by-Play. Adam has to go first. No. Dibs, shotgun, you going first. Let me find the Leafs goal horn. This is in the ACC. It's a home game. Oh, obviously.
Starting point is 00:56:02 No, obviously. We won the conference. Yeah. It's not like the Leafs winning at Edmonton where there's enough Leaf fans there that it's basically a home game. Right, right, right. Yeah. Oh, Adam's method acting.
Starting point is 00:56:15 Oh, there it is. Very, very well done. Very well done. Okay. Okay. So I'm going to play this. Taking the magic out of the moment. Who's going first?
Starting point is 00:56:26 Oh, Adam. I think Steve said I went. Okay. All right, Adam. Are you ready? I hate this so much. This is going to be so embarrassing. You're probably going to shit in the bed.
Starting point is 00:56:37 I'm not rooting for you. Cool. But it's going to happen. Cool. Hold on, hold on, hold on. I got to think. I lost it. I lost it.
Starting point is 00:56:46 I had it. You're stretched for time. Say something. Talk, talk. Let's describe the play beforehand. Yeah, how does it happen? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You do that.
Starting point is 00:56:58 Get to the moment where Austin Matthews bots the game winner. Neutral zone. Other team has the puck. Vegas. Vegas. Vegas for sure.
Starting point is 00:57:12 At some point, Adam says, Alex, tuck with the puck. Because he's coming in. And it rhymes. Right? His name is Tuck and he likes to puck.
Starting point is 00:57:22 Yeah. Kill Bill reference? No. He likes to name his puck. See, he's going to... I'm not cheering for you either. Sorry. Zach Hyman
Starting point is 00:57:30 Breaks up the Oh yeah You bet Zach Hyman Breaks up the play At the Leafs blue line Oh Nylander
Starting point is 00:57:39 Swoops in And he's breaking down the wing Austin Matthews with him Um Lucas Spiza Is the one man back for Vegas Yes Willie
Starting point is 00:57:54 Sauce Over to Austin Matthews Like an Italian chef And it goes right over the defenseman's stick. Matthews out of, no, he did what he did against Carey Price. Bats the pass out of midair, brings it down to the ice, and then puts it in the back of the net, passed Marc-Andre Fleury, and scores!
Starting point is 00:58:18 Austin Matthews! Can you believe it? I can, because Alex Tuck had the button, and he got broken up in the blue line there. Hyman over to William Nylander William Nylander brings in Just like his father Michael Who played for the
Starting point is 00:58:32 St. Louis Blazers And a bunch of other teams And he sends it over To Austin Matthews All-American pro And he puts it in the Back of the net Past Marc-Andre Fleury
Starting point is 00:58:39 Marc-Andre Fleury Made a huge save In the Stanley Cup Finals 2009 To bring the Stanley Cup To Pittsburgh He couldn't do it here Against Austin Matthews
Starting point is 00:58:47 Austin Matthews Hero Toronto Julian can ice the puck Well done Well done boys Thank you, thank you. Wow, wow.
Starting point is 00:58:59 I'm glad you did that, because mine was just going to be, ah, ah, ah! It wasn't supposed to be a reaction. It was supposed to be, you know, a call. Oh, no, if I was the play-by-play man. Yeah, that would be stupid. Ah! It happened!
Starting point is 00:59:14 It happened! That, I think, should be it. It should either be something like, finally! And then just let the crowd noise take it. Yeah. What if you just steal it, and you're like, Do you believe in miracles? I can.
Starting point is 00:59:31 I think someone made a YouTube video where they went, do you believe in miracles? I can. There should be a YouTube clip of all the best hockey calls and I can. Like, bless you boys, I can. Everything is happening. I can. I can.
Starting point is 00:59:52 Something along the lines of, it happened. It finally happened. you've done it lanny you've done it i i don't it's got to be a very simple call i don't envy whoever has to make that call no i don't either because it's that's the one that lives in lives in infamy that's the you know and and that's i think when you're a pro when you're really good it just comes out of you the ideal thing and bob cole gets this a lot and does a really good job with them and i've heard jim hewson do a really good job with a few of these two the ideal thing is the leafs are just like killing them yeah that way in the final minute when the crowd just
Starting point is 01:00:33 starts their standing ovation he can go you know after so many years in 93 they came close 94 close again 2002 but no luck three years ago they found themselves in last place
Starting point is 01:00:55 and then blah blah blah and then he finally gets to and now the Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup champions take it away Toronto and then the final 10 seconds of the game
Starting point is 01:01:05 are the audience going 10 9 the last like 2 minutes yeah we're gonna turn it over to the fans
Starting point is 01:01:13 yeah yeah yeah literally don't talk now here's the problem with that plan is any Leafs is any lead safe okay that's why it's like seven that's why I said oh and the Leafs are killing them because I was about to say the Leafs are up two uh are up seven with two minutes to go yeah yeah exactly You're such a Leafs fan Alright we're up Two Two
Starting point is 01:01:40 That's Man 30 goals each I don't know You know I think The best thing And I I hate to say it this way But I think the best thing
Starting point is 01:01:49 For the Leafs Is that Two of their Three best players Did not grow up Leaf fans And I And I'm gonna
Starting point is 01:01:58 Cause Connor Brown And Mitch Marner And I Count Mitch Marner But Connor Brown And Mitch Marner Grew up Leaf fans Right
Starting point is 01:02:03 Yeah The best part About Matthews and Nylanders They didn't And I'll tell you why Hmm They don't have the Oh my god
Starting point is 01:02:11 Don't fuck this up for me And oh my god I don't want to be the one That fucks this up For childhood me Do you see what I'm saying? Who clinched The Leafs a playoff spot
Starting point is 01:02:21 Last year? Connor Brown Connor Brown Breezy Downtown Breezy Well the correct answer Is Curtis McElhinney
Starting point is 01:02:27 But But Who I think also Grew up a Leaf fan But I just want to say I think it's important Yeah That
Starting point is 01:02:34 that they don't have that in the back of their head 20 years of don't please don't fuck this up like everybody else there's a mix yeah it's good they're also so young yeah you're almost young enough not to know they don't really know the 2000s they've turned it off yeah and i think mike babcock's done a great job of turning that off right you know what you can't have with austin matthews is a conversation about the 2002 run you can't have a come hey remember that no you know what he says no yeah no i do not he was like five he didn't did he even like hockey at that point in his life i don't think he did it's crazy like you want to talk about wiping the slate clean And then there's William Nylander, who doesn't give a good goddamn anyway.
