This is Steve Dangle Podcast, powered by Sports Interaction.
Wanna bet?
Spank Andy?
Woo!
S-D-P-P, The Steve Dangle Podcast, with your hosts, Steve Dangle, Adam Wylde, and Jesse
Blake.
Let's go!
Jesse, the first thing I want to do, because I was going through my old photos today, because
Dina Poliesi left BT
Who
An absolute legend
Works with our good friend Sid Sixero over there
I worked with Dina for years she's amazing
So I went back through and I was looking at old photos
And old video and I this popped up
And this is
Right before the first
Wave of the pandemic
Based on Everly's age
This is Everly watching Steve
At about six or seven months old
And reacting
he always used to watch you when i would put you on here you go
that was a good intro
she's dialed
she always liked when the dogs jumped out of the screen
because it was both victory puppies at that point so much things have changed thank you was this
just a long way of reminding me charlie died thank you yeah another thing here's my adorable
daughter and your dog dad thank you i have been meaning to um to to shout casual matt's out for a
while casual matt's longtime listener of the show and shows up at our events he was at kingston
again it was great to see him again he's a great guy his dad is a cartoonist but has only started
in his 70s and so i asked him i'm like because he sent me a cartoon he's like oh my dad does i'm
like do you mind having him draw one up for us oh what so he his dad is uh his dad's actually
like illustrating books and stuff like that now but uh uh there it is so that's eddie shack that's
what he did for eddie shack clear the track love that one yeah really good and then there is the
three of us as well and i just thought that that was worth
David Maitley shout out to David look at our fake-ass brick David David did make it look
more real than it actually looks in person yeah there's actually there's a couple things
well there's a big flaw with this picture what's the big flaw there's a laptop clearly visible
not covered in water no that's a mixing board steve oh also david mateley put out six children's
books over the course of the pandemic because he got to work man yeah i mean what else are you
gonna do exactly he's a heck of a lot more productive than i was i'll be honest thank
you for doing that yeah thanks david so anyway i just want to do a shout out
it reminds me of the ones you get like in the park yes you know in like new york they for 20
bucks so you get your pictures you're on yeah yeah yeah that's what it reminds me of now a couple
listeners tagged me in this and i wonder if jesse saw it because important news bulletin jesse blake
is wrong about what well yeah we had a huge debate on yesterday's show about whether or not uh
minnesota uh who has retained salary now on two trades yeah ryan o'reilly being the first one
the other one the dimitri orlov garnett hathaway deal yesterday um whether or not the players
involved in those deals that had their salaries retained actually go through
minnesota they go through on paper but i said they are a part of the organization and here's
why michael russo michael russo the wild had to reassign adam beckman to ottawa or to iowa
in order to fit dimitri orlov on their roster for 30 seconds yeah because you have to you have to
so no but it went through it so dimitri orloff dimitri orloff was also a part of the minnesota
wild organization okay no yeah that's that's how it works on paper all i'm saying is when the three
gms get together it's not like um doug armstrong traded ryan o'reilly to minnesota and then bill
garen correct bill garen decided to trade ryan o'reilly to toronto all i'm saying is when us
general managers get together and we make a three-way trade it is a trade between the three
of us and we have agreed on the terms that it's gonna be these three transactions to go through
and then the fucking the people who work under us the capologists and the nerds who do the paperwork
yeah you gotta file it so it officially works but there's never an instance where minnesota
is controlling ryan o'reilly to be like oh we can trade him to vegas now no it was all worked out
between the three gms in the room and then we made the trade call and then the nerds did the
paperwork and it looks like oh yeah he went there and he went there but he didn't really go there
joe smith at joe smith nhl former tampa bay athletic reporter now with russo in minnesota
uh he says the one that got away ryan o'reilly he joked he enjoyed his whole 30 minutes with
the minnesota wild yeah in in person today paper listen on paper listen i have enjoyed
that's all i'm saying sidestep have you not oh i i think jesse should consider a few things like
coping seething and then i'm in your fucking walls i don't think what i'm saying is that
complicated i think what you're saying isn't complicated it's wrong i'm saying they did it
on paper but there's no instance where we didn't agree that he's going to toronto you know how
much i would give to be a leaf for 30 minutes and this dude was a minnesota wild for 30 minutes i
would on paper yeah of course it's not a trade work they had to go 50 that way or 25 real ass
life yeah i'm just saying jesse i think you're gonna have to backtrack i do feel like there's
a bit of what do i need to backtrack i think the three gms didn't agree that the ryan riley
would end up in toronto here's what's important though what's interesting about the the washington
trade is that only dimitri orlov went to minnesota garden hathaway did not well it's kind of like
o'reilly uh was double retained and achari was not that's right so achari never a part of the
minnesota wild no never hates that place would never i don't know if that's what he said he said
that i don't know if that's a direct quote hates it wow and garnett hathaway he said uh fuck
minnesota adam wild tweeted it yeah do you remember the story that alan walsh told about
a client he had uh wanting to go to minnesota so that he could fish in the off season
and then alan had to tell him hey you probably shouldn't tell these teams that no no and also
yeah you guys aren't competing for the playoffs i like yeah i like that because there'll be more
time to fish it was oh man he played like 10 games in the nhl no no he was good he was a good player
was it peter oh my god he played for the lightning and the rangers in his final seager
seager uh something seager he's a czech player right yes they're all czech all about it's
spelled cigar um oh zidano zidano cigar cigar seager seager zidano seager that is a wild
fucking story man yeah that is such alan has gem after gem after gem i by the way i'm so glad that
so many people are checking out the podcast with eiserman on it it's oh it's uh the the response
to that's been spectacular but i gotta tell you like there's stuff in there every freaking week
where i'm like wow i just want more people to hear this are you serious i regret to inform you
stpn fucking slaps that's right well and i want that cj show so that's what i want to kind of
start with um yeah before we get to at least before we get to anything else uh cj started
his show yesterday uh or i guess it released last night and it was right before the trade
for uh garnett hathaway and dimitri orlov that boston orchestrated with washington
but he starts it off with seven and a half minutes of patrick king yes and you know there was a lot
of very interesting tidbits there but what i found to be the most interesting julian asked
him about the asking price and the fact that it might teach is like well it might be a second
round pick i'm like are you like the rangers jesse has blessed them with jesse luck yeah
because they got Tereseko at a good price.
And you're telling me the Rangers,
who we think Patrick Kane has agreed already to go to,
we believe that's the case,
that they're working on the deal right now,
are going to be able to get this guy with Kravtsov
and less than a second round pick.
It's because Kane has put them in the worst situation ever.
He's told them, I want to go to one team,
so you must negotiate with them.
So Kyle Davidson has zero negotiating power.
So let me take you back.
10 years to noted didn't have retirement forced on him guy jerome again i don't know about that
i know the game kind of went we don't need to how dare you this this was a this was a topic of
of heated conversation because i immediately compared the current cane situation to aginla
and producer drew stepped in and was like um aginla was not there in 2013 no he wasn't
prime aginla maybe but in 2013 and that's you know the thing about drew that i i wish he was
more opinionated oh my god i wish that he was more defined in what he thinks i wish he was
more antagonistic of everything oilers fans and all of the rest of them also oh my god i'm sorry
no no no it's all good man he is he is like what what's his sums into him this week
he's just having fun well i think he's picketed oilers fans because oilers fans
and i'm sorry the easiest well like other than leafs fans i mean it's it's a trifecta of leafs
oilers probably squeeze canucks in there oh yeah yeah and he does he loves that but i think see
here's the thing the leafs not that the pressure is off but the leafs have made a big move in a
good move right yeah the oilers keep talking about how they can't we simply cannot oh we'd
have to move salary you've seen the vegas golden knights move salary you've seen uh boston bend
over backwards and work it out with minnesota it can be done it's just do the oilers want to
be creative or pick up the phone and work that hard did you see the latest report that they're
gonna keep poolie rv because they want the depth i mean okay okay i know we're making fun of them
they should though yeah no but like the whole thing with bully rv is he's young and not bad
and you should keep young not bad players because that's good but but i was told by the people who
report on the team that they don't like it can you do the drama again with it yeah sorry so again
let people forget was a huge commodity yes he was like people wanted this guy badly and i mean it's
important to point out pre-advanced stat like okay you know no it wasn't first of all and second of
all fuck you all right how dare you couldn't pull up a j fresh chart back then not a j fresh chart
just charts from guys who ended up getting hired because it was 2013 how dare you okay so sorry by
the way that's not a shot of j fresh i know not at all he doesn't work for an nhl team because i
don't think he could take the pay cut yeah exactly but um uh we got jerome aginla who was highly
sought after and there was a deal do you remember this there was a deal for him to go to boston yes
and he backed out of it it was like a second koklichev who never really panned out but i
want to say it was a former first or second round pick and i think there was another small piece to
that now that's not a lot and it's it's interesting for the cane conversation though because we have
two uh examples of an aginla trade for the price of one because he was traded to boston there was
a deal in place and it even got reported and aginla at the last minute went well actually i
only want to be traded to pittsburgh so pittsburgh had to give up no salary retention
kenny agostino oh wow marley's legend yeah and leafs preseason legend um ben hanowski
and a 2020 or sorry a 2013 can you imagine a 2013 first round pick that ended up being
28th overall that they used to select morgan klimchuk another marley's uh legend to give you
an idea what was hanowski i'm trying to look it up he was a third round pick of pittsburgh
those two firsts and a third and kenny agostino was a fifth round pick from 2010 so three years
prior so if you want to look at it it's a third a fifth and a first that's it significant it's
significant but it's really not that big of a deal no it's not so but what were the flames
supposed to get in return again only wanted to go to literally one team it was it was bad enough
return when it was two i'll go to one of pittsburgh or boston but then it was just no i only want to
go to pittsburgh and wear powder blue weird weird you could have even taken an example from uh
more recent memory and that's last year with claude geroux claude geroux told philadelphia
i will only go to florida and they had to make that deal and they ended up getting quite a bit
in that trade that was uh to the philadelphia flyers was owen tippett a third round pick and
a conditional first round pick which like isn't too bad when you're when you're like hands are
tied behind your back um and you have to only negotiate with one team the panthers also got
some extra assets too rubsov butterman which is i always wanted toronto to get that guy just for
the name and uh 2024 fifth yeah and 50 retained as well to help florida with the cap so we've
seen this happen and we've seen the team get in both both instances a first round pick but i think
it feels like it's even deeper here with kane in that there's no negotiation at all no and if you
don't help the rangers get me there like i'm gonna be upset then i'm not going anywhere so
almost like a like a demanding toddler and i'm not trying to say that as an insult but it's like
he's like taking one of those like metal cups and just clanging it on his cradle train me to new
york yeah well according to cj2 the part of the reason that he's not taking picking a team like
vegas is he's not because they would be interested he's not convinced that their defense is good
enough so he's being real picky about yeah oh yeah and i think ultimately it sounds like he
just wants to go and live in new york and play hockey and you know i don't know if you remember
the dick kiprios episodes from like what is it five years ago now when he was here but he said
it's the best fucking place to play hockey it seems like a foregone conclusion he'll sign there
in the offseason then right well yeah i mean if they trade for him they can retain him too right
like they get that off was it on the cj show where cj made the point that um he needs to get surgery
as well at some point and the longer this is delayed like the further it pushes into next
season you know so like if he doesn't get traded here there's also the opportunity he just has
surgery and calls it quits and comes back next year so let's play a fun game called put words
in cj's mouth okay it's my favorite so i listened to the cj show on the way here and he mentioned
two things like half an hour apart but my brain immediately went those click together
Kane wants to go to New York and the
price is not going to be astronomical,
but they need a third team.
Minnesota.
To take $1.3 million in the salary,
I believe it is.
Something like that.
The,
um,
Wild only have one retention slot left,
but a team CJ brought up and I,
I wanted them to make a bigger deal of
this was,
uh,
the Montreal Canadians.
They might have a difficult time selling
at this deadline because so many of
their, you know, sellable deadline pieces are
injured or battling injury, or, you know, just
coming back.
Like, you know, we were talking about like a
first round pick for Joel Edmondson, but like
even if, if you're getting 80%, 85% of Joel
Edmondson, or do you all of a sudden get less,
but Montreal could be a, a, as they put it,
banker team.
Kent Hughes, GM there used to be in charge of
the Rangers.
so me putting words in cj's mouth using two pieces of perfectly legitimate information that he gave
i think patrick kane ends up in new york by way of montreal interesting that is what i think is
gonna happen so so you just you just tweeted conjecture about cj i absolutely i uh radioed
him consider yourself radioed the only nerds of the only piece of hair on the soup that i would
see there is that i don't think kent hughes and chris jury get along i think that's that's the
guy who replaced you i think it was pretty sudden that um james dolan was like hey can i all of a
sudden don't like you get out and bring in chris jury i think good business gets along you know
what i mean uh and montreal is straight up just the middleman they're just the middleman listen
i don't have to like you you don't have to like me we barely even have to be on the phone let's
make this transaction and go right back to our comfortable lives hating each other's lives
the other thing uh that i uh would like to extrapolate oh my god i got distracted by my
phone here it is so it's going to be difficult for chicago to get a first round pick for patrick
kane so it's probably going to be a second right if i'm chicago and i'm letting go of patrick kane
and he's going to resign there next year.
No,
absolutely.
Fuck that.
I got to get some.
So I kind of think it'll be a conditional pick.
Is it a second that turns into a first?
I don't know.
Okay.
Is it a potential pick swap or something?
I don't know,
but there's going to be some sort of condition in there that if Kane
resigns in New York,
Chicago gets more.
If I'm Chris Drury,
I say,
no,
I have a second round pick.
We'll simply sign him this summer.
Yeah, and the Rangers have that.
We'll help you this year, though.
The Rangers have that extra first-round pick.
You know, they have that extra, and I would just sit on it.
It's yours.
It's fun.
Yeah, listen, here's my pitch to Kyle Davidson.
I'm with you, Jesse.
So if you're Kyle Davidson, I'd be like, Kyle, listen,
we got an extra first this year, and it's yours.
Or, no, well, I guess it could be yours.
Could be yours.
I'm so excited for the trade to happen.
We'll keep our second.
We'll keep craps off, and we'll give you the first.
don't be don't be a fool should kravtsov just like although kravtsov wants out so maybe that's
why yeah do you think he's already had blackhawk ship uh stuff shipped to his house probably or
like he's just gonna pick it up once he gets he's gone he's going to chicago he's gone unless it's
the third team like montreal yeah kravtsov to the habs as the retainer no way habs of no well
Minnesota retained and they got a fourth
and they retained and they got a fifth.
It's a pretty big
jump to Kravtsov for a first.
The point is, Davidson's got
to do this deal this year. Otherwise, he's just delaying
his own rebuild. Why would you do that?
Get rid of Kane. Get something for him.
Don't over-ask. Just get the deal done.
Something is better than nothing. That's right.
So you might as well get something. Hey, whoa!
Copyright!
You gotta get something.
You gotta give something to get something.
Is that what it is? That's what it is.
that was so random i don't even remember what it was i know that's one that's one old piece
of history where i have no context for it yeah an old piece of podcast history i don't remember
where it came from though not at all now before we get to dave in just a second here i want to
bring something up uh or just it's just a quick tease after we talk to dave i want to talk about
my powers of deduction with the cj show because there was other pieces of information that they
talked about that i think we need to dive into this is justin bourne used to do thoughts on
thoughts where he would react to 32 thoughts this is kind of what this is us reacting to cj show
it's so great show though listen i know we're promoting our own shit but it's a bloody brilliant
show when we were talking about 32 thoughts back in the day we were promoting our own shit with
sports that no one gave a shit then i don't think anyone's gonna care it's a great show you want to
listen to a great show great no like listen i'm being i'm being genuine here it's freaking great
And I want that for you
I'm going to talk about that
I'm going to tell you what I think
Conspiracy theory next let's talk to Dave
You can bet that with David Bastel
Brought to you by Sports Interaction
Get in the action and make a play
19 plus please play responsibly
Okay trade deadline
And players and everything
It's all happening all at once
One player that sort of
Disappeared to the back
Josh Morrissey
No, actually, Jake McCabe, Dave.
Hey!
I see what you did there.
So, Dave, what do you got up at Sports Interaction on Jake McCabe?
Yeah, well, you know what?
Sports Interaction has the Toronto Maple Leafs as the favorites to land McCabe.
But here's the situation, because I threw that out there,
because obviously it's Leaf-centric.
There's a lot of teams on this.
But according to Sports Interaction, the Kings are close.
The Lightning are close.
Vegas is close.
Pittsburgh is closed, but Toronto leads it by a smidgen.
Everybody wants a Jake McCabe.
I don't know if it's the minus 27 he recorded last year
or if it's just because he's a big hitter.
So, I mean, I'm just joking.
Jake McCabe is a very useful defenseman.
Pittsburgh's kind of neat.
I don't mind Pittsburgh for that.
That's kind of neat.
They need to do something.
Yeah.
Yes, they do.
They're booing their GM.
Pittsburgh's kind of neat.
Interesting.
They're getting pushed around.
Pushed around.
You can't have that happen, right?
Not Ryan Burks and Ron Hexler's team.
So, Dave, just so we can get a lay of the land for the next week.
Obviously, there's the game tonight in Minnesota.
But in terms of trade deadline picks, what kinds of things,
if you log on to Sports Interaction right now,
what kinds of things are you going to find for trade deadline?
Well, right now, on the site, we have multiple players and destinations.
So it's almost like the same sort of thing we were talking about here
with Jake McCabe.
We'll have different players.
I think we're up to about nine different players,
which is pretty significant because usually there's about a top 10.
I'm going to try to increase that within the weekend as well,
depending on what happens trade-wise and if players get moved throughout the
weekend and so forth.
And we'll have destinations on where they're going to go.
Your top five, your top six teams.
We also have yes, no propositions.
So we'll throw out an option of like, say a barbershop.
Is he going to trade?
Yes or no.
You don't have to tell us the team.
Just give us an option of yes or no.
Because some of these players, and I'm looking at you, Patrick Kane,
you think you're going to be traded but chances are you're not going to be traded so maybe that's
a no bet right wow i'm hearing a lot of rumors about kane going nowhere okay all right no we
talked about it he can go get his surgery and get prepared for next season it's a thing that
could happen and and you know a team true team that wants him now could just sign him next season
yeah or in the offseason if you're cal davidson you're probably upset because you're like i wanted
something for this guy who was here for 40 years
but like lower your price
then yeah get it done
that's it
I'm just saying there's a lot out there
we have a lot of tracking to be done
reminder about the O'Reilly
thing for tonight's game
against the Minnesota Wild Hattrick prop at
101 that's pretty sweet I know you guys are
all over that I put my two bucks down
XFL week number two
this week
who isn't watching this baby
that's a thing i'm starting to dislike the rock why he's too much well do you see black adam
no it's the way i heard it's the worst movie of all time so i watched in the same week on over
christmas i watched the lindsey lohan christmas movie and black adam and the lindsey lohan
christmas movie is 100 times better wow the black adam is so it's one of i can't believe they got
it made like who do you i mean you have to be the rock to get a movie that bad made yeah you have to
be it said it was a pointless script i've only heard bad things about the movie but i don't mind
the xfl thing like i i feel like there was there was some talk that he was trying to merge it with
the cfl before the pandemic yeah that would have been a day what do you think i would have been
upset i gotta be honest with you i love the cfl the way it is i know it's smaller market and so
forth but i don't i don't want to see all this you know uh on fifth down you can do this and
No, no, no, just stay on the south, stay on the north.
And yeah, that's, hey, USFL starts up too pretty soon.
So, hey, there's another spring league for you guys to bet on.
Thanks, Dave.
We'll talk to you Monday.
Have a good weekend.
Okay, so something else CJ mentioned.
So this is what I love about some podcasts
because what happens is at this time of year,
you release a podcast, a trade happens right after.
As we know, as we know, you know,
and you have you're left you're left with the remnants and sometimes the remnants are important
i'm going to talk specifically about the deal that boston and washington pulled off yesterday
with the minnesota wild dimitri orloff former minnesota wild player i i had to say that first
off garden hathaway is the most ross boston person they could have picked up you absolutely
nailed that where's he from he's from maine exactly is he actually yes oh i didn't even oh
man but he did grow up a caps fan i believe yes what they're saying but he's from the area weird
weird that you would grow up a caps fan he uh he has a relationship with the owners i believe his
family does oh yeah yeah okay well that makes sense but garden hathaway and dimitri orlov going
to boston orlov is playing 22 minutes a night in uh a very depleted because john carlson i don't
believe is playing no he's not um depleted capitals line skating he was on the ice on
monday skating and and chris pointed out yet none of the washington defense is signed beyond next
year or beyond this year except for john carlson yep orlov is obviously a ufa but he's eaten 22
minutes a night even if in boston he goes in and plays 16 that's great probably way better
they have a top three of mcavoy lindholm and orlov that's preposterous and maybe connor clifton
uh can play there even though he was traded yesterday along with noted alan walsh client
jacob's boral that's right there was a report that was wrong it's it's it's so fascinating
to watch the boston bruins because for years in toronto it's like guys it's really hard to get
elite defenseman boston in consecutive years lost is a dano char and tory krug and ended up one with
hampus lindholm tory krug and now dimitri orlov not that dimitri orlov's elite but he's pretty
good well also also it's not a bad top three the conversation is so different um between like the
leafs and a lot of teams and then boston what i think we need to get bigger i think we need to
get someone who can like move bodies in front of the net the bruins go out there and like we need
to get bruins and they go out and they get it's like they're correcting it garnett hathaway is a
bruin and they're just giving them the correct jersey for the first time yeah that's exactly
what it feels like it was like when johnny boy chuck got traded it was like even though he was
an he was a great islander he was a boston bruin islander that was an okay fit i mean they're the
closest fit to the bruins in my mind it felt like a four-year rental like boy chuck boy chuck could
only be one of like team player for three teams oh yeah bruins yeah islanders and if he'd ever
played for the flyers if the flyers were on brand oh you gotta be mean you gotta be mean if they
were on brand no hathaway is perfect and also i pointed out in the video on stpn's youtube channel
that uh hathaway um the the bruins have now cornered the market on players with spit related
infractions marshand licked two different people and hathaway spat on eric good branson i think
which a lot of people forget about.
I think I thought one of the Leafs Twitter accounts I follow,
and I think it was Third Period Suits, I think,
was saying that him and Marchand can take cheap shots at each other
in practice now.
Oh, like.
Can you imagine?
I, folks, I don't want to be down on my team or yours,
but I'm not sure how anyone beats that team.
They were going to be hard to beat in the first place.
Their bottom six just got so much better.
Their defense just got so much better
That's tough
It is
Now here's my conspiracy theory
And then we can talk a little bit more about that trade
CJ was talking about Gavrikov
A lot of people were talking about Gavrikov
And he mentioned the Bruins
A lot of people were talking about Gavrikov with the Bruins
Now Dimitri Orlov
I didn't even check this before the show I should have
What?
Dimitri Orlov shoots what?
Left
No left
Gavrikov shoots left
And Dimitri Orlov shoots
Left
But left
Stop that
Correct is the word I'm looking for
I fucked up that
I'm so glad I fucked myself up
I didn't even realize it the first time
Did you know that?
Yeah I know
What a knob
So Boston
Boston's got
bosses got their their left shot defenseman oh yeah and so i'm wondering i'm left wondering
who's gonna pay the obnoxious price for gavrikov now i i'm i'm i'm seriously curious about this
because the leafs are looking for a defenseman but to me the left side's not where they need it
they need a right side guy i just i've i've tried several times uh you know putting different
defenseman in the Leafs top six and figuring out who goes and who stays and I haven't really come
up with a a trade scenario that makes any sense for them that makes them better like okay you
take Gavrikov you put him on the left what do you got Riley Gavrikov Giordano so then what about
Sandin well Steve you put in Sandin instead of Giordano well that's not what the team is going
to do why would you do that though giordano's been great yeah now gavrikov i believe can play
both sides so do you have two lefties on the right like do you have brody lilligren and gavrikov
and then you're gonna throw gavrikov you're gonna spend a first round pick to put a guy in your
third yeah i just don't think it makes any sense not for the least at that price like i don't know
if it makes sense for many teams in the national hockey league you're almost like a lion you're
ramo kekalainen wants a first and a third and that that's his number boston were almost there
and they scratched gavrikov and they said for trade related reasons and then boston's like oh
wait we can go get so much more for this price why don't we go do go do that almost the exact
same price that the least played for ror and so who in this league is paying a first and a third
for gavrikov it's too much it's way too much i think what adam's getting at here is cbj missed
their train that's what i think a hundred percent and i think a big factor there not only do they
wait too long because gavrikov's he hasn't played a game in like a week and a half the other thing
if you're sorry if somebody's willing to give you close to a first for gavrikov you fucking take
that what's close to a first second and a third yeah yarmo wants this first and it's ridiculous
yeah you need to be able to budge a little what he's learned in his nhl career is if you wait
i mean maybe dubas like with felino just fucked up kakalainen's entire career is the like the one
time he gets the sun and the moon right yeah and he assumes it's going to work that way he's a
notoriously tough negotiator as well yeah but i'm looking at teams on the fringe now well so this is
the thing a new seller hit the market and it it dropped the price it screwed the trade yeah because
Washington recognize that there are so
Many teams around us who look a lot
Better than us and we probably shouldn't be going
For anything we have so many UFAs
Let's sell off a couple and go get some
Assets they've also lost like five straight games
Oh yeah they're not they're not doing good they're not gonna make
The playoffs and so Adam like where's the
Team who's gonna pay that
To Columbus so here's my
Question okay so you've got the
Islanders are now I'm just gonna start
East Coast okay because we got a great
Playoff wildcard happening like
Last year it was dead it sucked
we got a pretty good playoff wildcard now do we need the wildcard format to do this
no we don't it would still be really good fuck the wildcard format but um you get the islanders
with 67 points in the first spot and the detroit red wings who have uh 64 points but they've got
they've played three less games than the also 64 pointed florida panthers florida panthers
blew all their draft capital out the window in the bench rock deal and there's your rude deal
so they can't make a trade but the team it might end up detroit no here's who it's going to be
guys yeah it's the guy it's the team that got booed last night in edmonton yep or was it in
pittsburgh no it was in pittsburgh it was no they would have been they would not have booed if it
was in edmonton they would have said hooray the penguins are have played the same amount of games
as detroit 57 and they were a point behind and there is no excuse like you could you don't have
to fault the islanders the islanders listen the fact that they're in is great you know losing
barzal right after you get horvat that super sucks detroit though are just playing with house money
it's great that they're in it's not the end of the world if they don't make it next year's sort
of the year to make it and they're and the eyes are plans doing great ron hextall's got to make
a move here he's got to do something because you just went out and you grinded evgeny malkin down
You had Crosby call him and say, listen, Gino, don't leave.
Come on.
Let's go out together.
The Bruins are doing it.
Let's do it too.
Only it's gone very different with this black and gold team.
And I'm wondering how long can Burke and Hextall hold out under the pressure?
How was Hextall fired from the Flyers?
The Flyers said, Ron, you got to do this.
And Ron said, no, I don't.
So we're sitting here going, Ron, you got to do this.
the difference though is that that was over carter hart and and carter hart's development
this time it's the end of sydney crosby and evgeny malkin and chris letang's career
they may never be better than they are right now or as good as they are right now that's generally
how time works so what do you do you just sign these guys to four-year deals you got them till
they're 40 but then oh man so this is the thing i'm like okay well you can't go blow all your
draft capital to go for it this year because the team doesn't really deserve it i don't think you
need to blow all your draft capital for him anymore for who for gabricoff we're talking
about gabricoff oh you're talking about gabricoff yeah do we think the price is gonna drop i think
that that's what i think i think it's gabricoff to pittsburgh if i do interesting they have their
first second and third uh new jersey's third actually they could send that second round pick
they've got the capital to do it um and yarmo's yarmo's got to understand that here's the thing
on the other side and here's another team that's now selling the nashville predators
and they have strong defense i think i think the i i kind of get the impression the preds are dirty
liars well okay now this this has to do with the leafs because again everything comes back to the
At least CJ also mentioned at home.
Would Matias at home be available for the Leafs?
What was the cost?
A lot of a lot.
It was two firsts.
Give it.
Give it.
Give it for me.
No, you don't give up your 2024 because they've already given up their 2023.
You have to give up your 2024 and 25 first.
So the Leafs would not be picking in the first round.
So could you just give up a prospect?
Nick Robertson.
i don't know is nick robertson i mean nick robertson's name has not come up they don't
want to give away any of their prospects they love their guys yes no but like this they should
they should i always make fun of the leafs for loving their guys they should love these guys
they're good guys that's oh a draft pick we don't know what that is you go and have fun that's what
a draft pick is by the way you go and have fun the leafs did not give the carolina hurricane
Seth Jarvis they gave them a pick
Which the Hurricanes could have wiped their
Ass with they intelligently selected
But instead they intelligently selected
Seth Jarvis
Um remember when the Bruins
Had three straight first round picks
Those weren't all theirs
Only one of them was yeah and the
Next three picks after those three
First three picks were way better than the ones
That they made legendary although Jake
DeBrusque has been good I know but
Seneshan and Zboral have not been
that i like your idea on pittsburgh i think it's going for something the matias echoing thing never
doesn't really make sense to me because his contract's so long for so long for so much
money 50 retained it's 6.2 and he's 32 years old in four more years but pittsburgh going out and
buying like they could always use help on their back end because they pay so much for the stars
up top and and so they can always use the buzz flip it the other team the other team i put out
there the other team i want to put out there is it's in the western conference and it's another
team on the outside looking in and it's a player that plays this type of coaches hockey gabrikov
to the calgary flames now like now they have strong defense yeah but but daryl sutter has
a particular type of player you could be very good at hockey but if you're not a daryl sutter guy
you're just not i think daryl sutter has a particular type of player um and that particular
type of player doesn't wear a flames uniform because i don't think you should be coaching
the flames anymore i look at the flames like i i know there has been discussion and uh there was
actually an interesting uh discussion with cj and julian about um brock besser potentially going
there um or going somewhere um that's a good team it's a good team that's underperforming
it's a good team that's underperforming i i don't think they need to make a huge ad
and like they discussed on that show the flames have not earned a big ad no the flames need to
take away from their team and fire their head coach yeah man neither which is going to happen
so it's murray edwards guy i'm telling you not getting fired are we going to the west
because there's a team i have questions about what's the question yeah do the minnesota wild
know they're in a playoff spot yeah but they're doing the smart thing they're doing the smart
thing they got 14 million dollar cap penalties this season next season and i think 12 million
the year after this is kind of the conversation i was having with someone this morning like what
is the morale like with um the minnesota wild right now uh i mean what do you mean well like
like what's the what's the problem because the team's not investing in you they're investing
in the future remember like kiprio's told the story and yes this was like in the early 90s but
it's i think still relevant to human nature the i think it was hartford it was a team he was on it
doesn't matter what team it was traded a player for a draft pick or a prospect i can't remember
but it was a future right and was it the smart thing for the team in the long run probably
but the room was like cool great well that doesn't really freaking do anything for us now
that draft pick is 15 years old right now or whatever if you're a player on minnesota right
now and you don't have a contract that goes three four years from now and the wild are making all
these moves for the future that i think are clever what does the team feel about that get into the
playoffs make some noise and if you're a player whose contract is lower and you're not a part of
the future because you're not your name isn't dumba spurge and caprizov whoever fiala i think
like whoever else they're paying actual money to um then fiala's on uh elena sorry if you had
yeah exactly there you go right yeah so so because they couldn't afford them go go take advantage of
the opportunity with a team that's still pretty good is going to make the playoffs where all the
eyeballs are going to be on you and then this summer sign a gigantic deal i think it's an
audition you have like a really good point with a guy like mark andre flurry in particular because
he's in the exact situation where that would be disheartening so matt dumba is a ufa and his name
has come up like it's not a big name out there but it's like a little whispery name where he
could move bigger because ufa they can just get rid of him because minnesota's looking to the
future but a guy like mark andre flurry who has maybe two years left in his entire career is like
no i need i want to win but he signed that this summer knowing that did he know that
but they be in a playoff spot and then they're also gonna sell i mean i i don't i think mark
Andre Fleury was well aware had to be well aware that that Minnesota was going to have to do have
a wonky couple of years but I think I think I think the team when you get to this point in the
season and they say look what we've done when you've been since last offseason you've been
trying to sell off everything but look what we've done with the tools you gave us and the players
in the locker room that we have we're in a playoff spot can we not get like a little bit of hey
stan pat for a little maybe not just sell off everything because bill garren's ice fucking
cold man yeah and that's unfortunate for the guys bill garren cut bait with the two most
prominent players and and caused the team to have 15 million 15 million and 12 million or
whatever the number is 14.5 huge numbers numbers we've never seen he went to ownership and said
hey you know that deal that you approved that you signed that you were so jacked about the
Now you're going to have to pay almost $40 million in cap to get out of in the next three years.
Yeah, it's 12.7 this year, 14.7, 14.7, then back down to 1.6.
You don't get to do that without convincing ownership that this is the way it's going to be.
And if you're a player and you're in the NHL and you don't like it, well, who cares?
It's Bill Guerin, man. He doesn't care.
that's why i kind of see minnesota as a team that could pull off like kind of a hockey deal
yeah because i can see that they shouldn't be selling like pure selling they're in not just
a playoff spot they're in one of the top three slots in the central not even a wild card and
it's a tight race like they could still miss the playoffs but like okay so holding on to
dumba and getting nothing for him can't do that it doesn't really make sense trading him for a
draft pick i don't really think that makes sense either so do you look to a team like i don't
really think nashville is going to do you any favors as a divisional rival but do you look to
like purely spitball in here they don't even play the same position do you go to chicago and go how
much for sam lafferty you're you're talking about cheap deal x player who is younger and or cheaper
under control and under control yeah they they need a cheaper player who's under control because
it just punting is i don't think it makes sense they're a good team you just can't act but they're
rebuilding but i don't know if you know if they that was the plan was to rebuild i think they're
just they knew they'd be good i just think they knew that they would have to be good on a budget
there are three points out of first in the freaking central so so they don't need to add
dallas dallas and it's a shit conference anyway what do you need to add for you don't need to
get better well it'd be who you are it's a division like ready for the taking yeah and they could do
it and they're go and do it i mean try it fellas i suppose they still might but like dallas is in
on patrick kane yeah the jets are probably cooking something up they've been a really good team this
year seattle has dropped down to a wild card spot and that's not um but they have more points
than minnesota does it's because they're in the pacific which is stronger colorado is hot
And then you get down to
Calgary which is slowly
Approaching butt
In 90% of cases
The team you just laid out there
A team that's three points out of the division lead
We're going to trade deadline
They're buying! They're arming themselves to the team
Are they in on Patrick Kane?
Like are they going to sell everything to Ivakov?
But Bill Guerin sitting there is like no
I'm kind of rebuilding
Here's a fun one
Are the Leafs
Resigning Justin Holl
do we think do we think it's going to happen what is this no no do we think the leafs are
resigning justin hall yes or no uh based on cam chiron's article absolutely fuck well he doesn't
work there anymore though yeah but it's probably because he wanted to make more money hey are the
least working for an hl team is like the least profitable venture you can do are the least
going to be able to afford justin hall next year i don't think so i don't know not at two million
bucks it might be hard maybe that's a luxury i don't know if you can't afford if he comes back
for less if he signs the geo deal come on jesse fuck it i'm coming back come on jesse where is
he from chicago minnesota oh minnesota he was drafted by chicago he's from minnesota oh he's
perfect for them what if you get minnesota to retain on dumba and you send them hall
dumba to the leafs yeah and even though hall's ufa he's cheaper he i assume would be willing
to resign there is there something that could happen there the Leafs are looking to upgrade
the wild aren't looking to punt but they are clearly future planning right is there something
there I use the Leafs because Hall and the Minnesota connection and everything but you
could use any team there I really like the Leafs getting Matt Dumba I think you might have stumbled
upon something i i literally like put zero thought into it thought about it live on the show and
shat it out of my mouth you know i think i think you literally stumbled on something it sounds like
a something that'd be very decent i don't have a source no one whispered anything to be clear you
say trade i say trade okay i i just see something that could potentially make sense yeah now just
you know another thing though that they talked about on the cj show they need like a body mover
That's not what Dumba is
Yeah
But he is an upgrade
Dumba is the upgrade
And then you can go out and maybe do a Shen deal
Which is incredibly cheap
Or they have so many defensemen
Or you just commit to what you are
Yeah upgrade the position
That Dumba is going to fill in that slot
And then you have six other guys
That can switch and move in
Brody, Lilligren, Dumba
Get better Connor Timmons
Brody, Lilligren
Brody Lilligren Dumba
Has no problem
Moving the puck
Riley Brody
Giordano Dumba
Screw it
And Sandin Lilligren
That's fine
That puck is going
And you know
The other team might
Have a decent time in front of your net
If they can get there
And Matthews plays right wing
O'Reilly's first line center
riley on the left wing matthews okay riley on the left wing morgan morgan o'reilly riley to o'reilly
on the top line and then joey anderson top line right wing on d matthews marner call a d pair
we've been looking for this whole time call up kyle clifford call up kyle clifford yeah yeah
Bring him to the lineup
I thought you were literally telling me to call Kyle Clifford
And I'm like I've never spoken to him in my entire life
I don't have his contact information
I don't know why you're asking me to do that
Get him this message
I'm asking you to perform a transaction
In your fictional world where you're building the leaves
I don't know him
I don't know him
I can't do that

Hey, if you think you know which way it's going to go,
and maybe you think you do,
Maybe you're like Jesse.
You're like, Ryan O'Reilly is going to be a Leaf.
And we're like, Jesse, what do you know?
You did sort of nail that.
I wish I bet on it.
I don't like that stuff.
You can.
I don't like that at all.
That is a weird thing.

please play responsibly i wanted to play this because this is craig berube on the st louis
blues craig berube by the way doug armstrong not a great quote unless he's on agent provocateur
then he was a great quote a lot of people have not checked that out you should uh craig berube
a better quote than you'd expect when ryan o'reilly got traded last uh last friday they
asked craig berube about it and he said obviously it wasn't a fun night you never that's a pretty
solid quote right i want you to have a listen to what he said about the st louis blues his team
that he coaches after the game last night our best players don't play with any passion no emotion and
no no inspiration at all they don't play inspired hockey you cannot play in this league without
emotion grit than being inspired um they're getting paid lots of money and they're not
showing they're not doing the job end of story that's it that's what it boils down now hold that
for a second now the blues were up to nothing going into the third period jt miller scored
at 908 and andre kuzmako signed tied it up with 30 30 seconds to go and then pedersen scored
with 15 seconds to go in ot jesse can you play that again that is as good oh my god and it's
like i read that's better than a torch quote oh my god well everything's better than a torch
I read a snippet of that online
The video is
A thousand times worth
It's volcanic
Players don't play with any passion
No emotion and no inspiration at all
They don't play inspired hockey
You cannot play in this league
Without emotion, grit, being inspired
They're getting paid lots of money
And they're not doing the job
End of story
That's it
That's what it boils down to
dude so who's he talking about well who's left well so brayden shen makes the most out of any
forward uh followed by pavel buchnevich but uh well pavel buchnevich and brandon sod but then
kairu and robert thomas's extensions kick in next year and they're the future and on defense
you have Justin Falk and
Torrey Krug signed to $6.5 million
each until
2027.
And Colton Pareko
also signed to $6.5 goes beyond
that.
And obviously Jordan Bennington
makes $6 million. And the most important
part of the team is Nathan Walker.
That's right. Noted Alan
Walsh. That's right.
You know, the Blues haven't been the same since they lost
David Perron.
It's a good point. Good point.
It's the only point.
It's the point.
You lose Alan Walsh clients, you fucking lose everything else.
But I thought it was worth saying that,
considering that the St. Louis Blues are apparently still in on Timo Meier
and are looking to do a quick rebuild.
Well, it makes sense.
I could see why, because there would be people that would be like,
okay, listen, Craig, you're not going to make the playoffs.
Why are you harping on them?
I think that the Blues are like, listen,
we're getting the most out of these players this season
because we're turning this around and making the playoffs next year.
This is ridiculous.
We shouldn't be here.
I think that's what they're doing.
Quick retool, turn around, be top of the division next year.
Because they know, Doug Armstrong especially knows, or is it Bill?
Doug.
It's Doug.
Doug Armstrong knows that the Western Conference is for the taking next year.
It's weak right now.
It's getting better.
For the taking right now.
Yeah.
Yes.
But you can imagine that the improvement next year, while it will be probably improved, won't be that much.
You have a huge opportunity if you're the Blues.
I don't want to be the arrogant Easterner here, but if you're in the West and you're not in a playoff spot right now, you're a deep shit.
Or you're doing a quick retool.
Or you're doing a quick retool.
Wow.
And that has to be pointed at Cairo and Thomas.
And who's their defenseman again?
You met Twerkbrook and Falk.
And the man in net.
Bennington, who does play with passion.
But is it good?
does not direct it well,
and has already come under fire from the coach
for legitimate reason.
Like, I talk about Bunting not being able
to control his temper.
Banner had a good game last night, by the way.
38 save.
Okay, fine.
Yeah, what's the save percentage on the year?
That's a good question.
Let me find out.
That's the thing, right?
Well, so I'm willing to bet he's not talking.
Not great.
Wow.
Wow.
So remember we were talking about how
Ukapeka Lukanen wasn't doing well?
Did he not have exactly an 894?
Yeah, almost that.
Or 897, I think.
Yeah, whatever.
Like, that's brutal.
But he was good in that game, so who's Berube going at?
So I think there's something coaches do where –
because these guys are – they're so hot under the collar when they lose.
And then they got to have microphones shoved in their face right after.
And I think what happens is they're mad about a thousand things.
and what it often uh gets converted into is aggression at the media oh the media is a piece
and that's why you see like Sutter being kind of a prick and Tortorella being kind of a prick
uh Berube uh kind of dropped the veil he he didn't like throw the filter on he was like our
best guy that is as scathing a quote as I've ever heard an NHL coach say about his own players you
know what i mean our highest paid players they make a lot of money that is you're really gonna
get people's attention you bring up money oh you're gonna get the pa's attention not a guy
in that room is happy about that quote not a single one of them even the biggest barubi believers
are like you know what man you helped us win a cup in 2019 but fuck you for that one
oh that's that quote i fear is gonna have a ripple effect for the st louis blues
or maybe they go on a tear or yeah maybe it works i mean the last quote i remember of berube's was
he complained about the officiating in the stanley cup final and then uh basically every call went
their way for the remaining five games how do we get that how does sheldon keep learn that skill
is that a is that a like a pokemon skill that you can like give them a a stone and then they learn
it i'm sure somewhere between him yelling at the refs less and west mccauley retiring okay fair
enough um the other thing i want to get to before we get to a couple things before the press
conference did you see the farce that was over time between the tampa bay lightning and the
buffalo sabers last night i saw the non-call the labushkin and then labushkin pulling down
stamp coast with his stick in front of the ref and then taking the puck and scoring on an over
scored on a breakaway steve i need to see this again yeah he scored on andre vasilevsky on a
breakaway if you think that we're only complaining about the refs because we're leaf fans man if i
was tampa i'd be so fucking mad this morning holy shit this is a this is one of the worst plays i've
ever seen how do the refs not catch it i gotta see i gotta rewind it rewind it because i was
so caught up in the fact that it's labushkin here we go did you see it yeah i see it oh he
pulled him down in him
and then him yank him
he enters him okay
all right with the stick let's
here can you play it again
yank him down
I think Stamkos loses an
edge guys no you can't
don't be one of those
oh I think it can be both
I think it can definitely be both
I think it
can be a hook and also
not the reason Stamkos fell
that that means or not according to adam's face penalty and then but you and then you need you
need vasilevsky to stop labushkin like he's an hl player that's a good shot on breakaway
no dude remember like once every six or seven games with the leafs labushkin was like
he would just fly up on the rush he had a great setup i can't remember who ended up scoring the
goal oh look how pissed those fans are too i'd be so mad yeah it's not that he gets sabers like
good for them they're doing great but like holy how if you're if you're watching this
oh there's jj peterka and you know alan wall's client the reason they won here's what bothers
me steve here's what bothers me what is that you've just let the refs off the hook
literally you gave the refs the benefit of the doubt there stop doing that no let me see it
again let me see it again because we're gonna get a good angle the broadcast angle isn't good
because his stick is hidden from us come on come on steve i think he kind of yanks him down there
steve i don't know let me see steve he skates fine until the bush can get his stick under his arm
yeah i don't see okay please go watch this replay his stick made contact with him in the midsection
That's the definition
They don't always call it
What a joke
Oh should it be
I mean yeah
And Stamkos is fine but all of a sudden he just loses his edge
When LaBushkin puts his stick in him
Yeah I don't think so
Look come on
I think
I gotta see the other angle man
Steve's right in that it's a combination of things
But it's just that you can't put
Your stick there that's a penalty
Yeah but how often do they call it
All the time
I think this is a very good percentage though
It's a farce the reason they didn't call it
Was because it was overtime
Oh I agree with that
And that's fucking bullshit
It is fucking bullshit the same reason they didn't call the bunting penalty on Yost
Because Elise had a power play
Okay Jesse's got the other angle
So this one the overtop angle
They're making the argument that
Stamko's lost
It's stick on stick
It's more of a stick lift from
Labushkin. That's so grainy. He lost
an edge. I'm sorry.
No, dude, it looks
horrible from the broadcast side.
It does. He lost an edge.
It's unfortunate, and whoever
that was on the other side of Stamkos
maybe should have gone on the horn a little faster
instead of complaining. Look at him.
Throws up the hand. Hey, standing
stock still. Move your fucking ass.
There's a breakaway.
What are you doing?
What are you doing?
Move
It's Labushkin you got a chance of catching him
Um I just want to say
Chris just tweeted this like a second ago
Uh oh
No
Can I do the other angle
I guess it doesn't matter
Yeah it's not breaking
Here you go
It's breaking to us
So the argument is that
It's stick on stick
And Stamkos loses an edge because he's
turning around he loses an edge because the way he falls it's stick on stick it's still it's still
a hook no no you can do a stick lift and then Stamkos lose an edge because the puck is behind
him yeah the way Stamkos falls if Labushkin hooked him on his right side it would have made some
sense because of the way Stamkos falls but he's on his left Stamkos would have got pulled back
and that's just not what happened i i think they got it right i'm not gonna lie and like i don't
give a shit about either team like it's you know i 100 disagree in that you have to if a guy's stick
makes contact with the guy's body that's a hooking penalty i don't understand how you're
bending the rules like that i'm not bending the rule no the officials bend the rules by calling
it whenever the fuck they want but like that i've seen that called you're okay you and i have seen
the exact same things and I think we have the same
opinion it's just you've seen
that happen and get called
a thousand times I have
seen that happen and not
get called a thousand times
and both of us have seen it two thousand times
does that make sense
which one is the correct way to
do it probably your way
that's my whole point but
it's it's
it's 50
50 enough that
like I get it
Adam wants to move on.
Do you want to hear what Chris has to say?
No.
About Patrick Kane.
No.
No, okay, fine.
No, I'm kidding.
Patrick Kane.
CJ says, we're still a week away from the NHL trade deadline,
but word is Patrick Kane's situation will come to a head well before then.
Expect a resolution in the next 24 hours.
Oh, my God.
Probably as soon as you post this.
End the episode.
Upload this right now.
Dude, did we spend all this time talking about Eli Lepushkin?
Although.
You upload it right now.
CJ says, Kane has not waived his no movement clause.
as of right now okay but with it okay when did he tweet this uh six minutes 24 hours we have
until one o'clock tomorrow all right get this up now all right a couple more things to do uh just
a couple of people weighing in on the on the dms here jonathan says hey adam big fan of the sdpn
uh want to say that in france's top soccer league you guys were talking we were talking yesterday
about that formula 2 driver who was hired because he was really good at video games
he's really good at playing and it turned out he was a really good driver too france in france's
top soccer league there is a manager who does not have his pro license but he is the manager anyway
because i guess over there you have to have a pro license the team has to pay a fine every game
he got his start being a soccer coach from football manager which is a video game what
several people tweeted that at me it's ted lasso yeah you have to have a license to work as a coach
well you're in europe like in england you have to have a license to have a television
so what what is the license to be a gm to be a to be a head coach you have to have a sporting
license and it's a way to keep people what kind of mafia it's a way to be it's a way to be like
now rich people can do this but you can't like are we talking are we talking at the pro level
or like coach francis top soccer league as in psg would be in this league so why did why don't they
to send him to the women's training his name is will still he's the youngest boss he cut his teeth
playing football manager he plays or he is the coach of reams uh which is league one what a racket
no what's his position at the club he is the manager the head coach yes
you need a license and why does it why don't they just get him this license
uh uh well i don't i think because it's a pretty significant process it takes a while
is he unqualified is it like f1 where you like me to do you need a uefa pro license do you think
that uefa is like you know what you know about fifa do you think uefa is any different you have
to pay here's what it is we give you a piece of paper you pay us money now you can so why wouldn't
they do that instead of paying well i think they're working on that but right now they have
to pay uh what amounts to 25 000 pounds for every match 25 000 and he is studying up for his uefa
pro license but they're like we don't care we want him in now listen he grew up in belgium he's
from england five thousand dollars in hockey basketball baseball american football they all
have their problems soccer is so wildly corrupt that everything i hear about it yeah is like
every scandal would be like a top five scandal in the ever and this is not a scandal i think this
is cool uh this is great well yeah i guess and by the way scandal but he's been on it's fuckery
as of the printing of this article which was the 11th of january this year they've been on a crazy
or they were on a crazy run at the time so he lost his first match to monaco three nothing and
then uh try tied the first one tied the second one versus psg uh tied the third one won the next
one another tie another win another tie another win like it's like he was like he lost one game
in his next 10 this guy's no joke and this is not psg is the big club right reams is smaller club
not big money this is ted lasso this is legitimately is that a crazy story yeah
how much franchise mode do i have to play to get hired you know what man i am i on my way i i i
guess like honestly steve always says this and i think it's if you think that it's that hard to
work at a pro sports organization nope it you know what it's hard but it can be done and it's
easier than you think listen i don't think you can get out of bed and go and do it today but if
you work toward it you can do it absolutely there's nothing about the people that are running
the organizations now that makes them smarter than you they just might have more knowledge or
more of a resume there's no adult no there are no adults it's actually it's interesting i was
listening to a podcast on of course uh medieval some medieval people the other day okay and they
said what they were talking about war in medieval times and they're talking about um uh how you
supply an army of 10 000 people and how many carts of whatever you have to bring along with you
so what the best armies were the ones that were great at logistics and they were talking about
all these creative ways that you know guys who were illiterate were still able to supply armies
of ten thousand these guys couldn't read but they had people who were monks that could figure out a
math equation and that sort of thing and what the historian on the podcast said is you have to
remember that people back then weren't any less intelligent weren't any less capable they just
didn't have the basis of knowledge that we have so they would be as smart as anybody today as
capable of learning as capable of learning and he said so what's interesting is we seem to think
that the only way of learning is the way that we do it and he said there's no question the way that
we do it is way far superior to way the way they did but they figured it out or they figured certain
things out you make do you make do so i just i thought that was fascinating so you're you're not
any yeah you are you can do this whatever it is you want to do you can do it if i become gm of
the Florida Panthers, can I still do the show?
Sure.
I insist upon it.
You have to sign exclusively
Alan Walsh clients.
Someone told me to do that
for a stream.
An all-Alan Walsh team.
You should do that. All-Alan franchise?
Yeah. What should we call them?
What would
Walsh? The Springsteens.
The Springfield Springsteens.
their goal horn is that thing from tmz i'm a lawyer i love that idea there you go please
take this video send it to alan uh from mike hey guys or hey i'm listening to the pod today
um he's like he's like man you made you really touched a nerve with wanting to play gm mode
connected with steve and jesse because it's not in nhl 23 but it was in nhl 14.
it's a much requested fan favorite that has just not come back so for all the content people you
could install an nhl 14 gm connected was the best people loved it they have not brought it back it
was it was super buggy what was yeah from what i remember it wasn't like it did they didn't hammer
it out but they didn't stick with it rather so they they tried it out and then they didn't keep
going with it and nhl 15 was a mess it was like multi-console that was the one where it's like
half a game was on the was on ps4 yeah and the full game was on ps3 i just i think the guys who
work on the game take an undue amount of heat and i think it's just they don't get the support
they need the financial support they don't get the support and the nhl needs to demand that
right like the nhl needs to be down their neck about it ea ea not the guys that are working on
the game they need more people on that it's just listen i'm gonna get nhl every year like if anyone
from that franchise is listening i'm gonna get it every year i love the games grow up in the game
still love the games even with all their faults the game is too difficult to play and i'm not
talking about oh i always lose i'm talking about the game crashes and the lag and the glitches and
the timeouts and like oh my fucking i just you know how difficult it is to log on with with five
other guys play a team of six guys and just get through a game no issues whatsoever that system
as well doesn't even make sense unless you understand how shl like works like adam as
somebody who doesn't play nhl if i told you hey go log on and play with six friends to compete
against the other it's so complicated like the menu and the system to get through to the online
for uh part and you all got to create your own players at that point it's so they've they've
over complicated the game i see here's the thing what i get with nhl um and this is a guy that also
grew up i had nhl like i had i had a game called power play 98 on my computer that it played with
a joystick and i had nhl 2000 and nhl 99 with lindross where he was big big i can player and
i can still remember nhl 96 for super nintendo with konstantinov laying a hit on the cartridge
yes yeah i remember um i remember you know nhl 2000 i think it was 2004 2005 that was the lockout
year that instead of hockey that was where i got my hockey and i played the shit out of that
and i remember this i remember the like you know avenge sevenfold was on the freaking
soundtrack like that was one of the best soundtrack games but i'm bored i'm bored when i
play it i'm bored i get bored yeah i just get bored because if because because like first off
i don't get to play online with you guys as much because i have to go to bed so we're as much or
ever like once or twice a year when we have played the three of us together at your house like when
we did that playoffs here oh my god five years ago five years ago that was a long time we were
we were high as a kite and we we played right to the stanley cup finals and won it in game seven
we weren't high no i think we were drunk i don't know what we were anymore but it was fun i still
remember i think jesse scored the game seven ot winner and he immediately got up and ran and i
got up and chased him and you chased the both of us uh and we were all grown men what happened
why is it hard though to why is it hard what is it just there's a lot of complicated process
yeah like the the entire the entirety of building like a world so that you can play
with a bunch of friends i think over complicates things like there needs to be
a simple hey you load up the game and you can do this like that's that's how just for the people
who aren't the hardcore like a quick play yeah it's just some sort of some sort of way it was
like okay you're dangle navy team like you guys got it down like you're that's for you but there's
no real entry point for the non-experts you know and i'd like to see more of that it's supposed to
be what drop-ins is but it's it's so toxic yeah drop-ins suck drop-ins is why is what's wrong
with dropping it's just full of like trolls and racism there's still a lot like they oh i don't
want to talk to strangers on the internet i know and they they put up their their thing where you
when the game loads is like ea is working on getting rid of racism like that was all in the
2021 game and like none of that came to fruition no like i'm still playing the the uh the minnesota
george floyds every week you know on online like it's not nothing's really been done about that
stuff so it's like you don't want to support the game in that factor but like oh yeah oh yeah oh
yeah yeah they've
even done anything to
actively get rid of
that and the
population online at
any given time is
usually low because
it's cumbersome to
play and there are
really good video games
out there so people
play other things
something else yeah
and then else they've
really um fractioned
off the people who
like nhl because like
you can go in a
million different ways
in how you want to
play online you play
ones you play threes you play ones like me just versus you 505 play eshl and there's so many
little different avenues that when you get into the different parts of the online world there's
so little people because there's already a small base to choose from of people who play cell all
the time and then you fraction them off even more and then on top of that cross console play i'm
pretty sure still isn't in there ps5 i have a check weirdest console rollout i've ever seen
in my entire life well because you still can't get one yeah the game it's been out for like three
years you can get a ps5 you can now yeah now finally jesse had to get one the other day and
he had to drive to woodbridge though you drove to woodbridge to get that yeah yeah that was the
best buy that had them in stock by the way and they didn't do um deliveries no because they
couldn't afford an armored car like to because like oh my god yeah but um yeah and the the cross
console thing like other other games have figured it out why can't i play somebody who's on ps4
because the people who develop the game aren't given the resources yeah like i can play somebody
on xbox it's not their fault but ea if the again it comes down to this nobody who runs the league
plays nhl so they don't get upset players do just like the players don't just like just like um
nobody who uh well you think the players are going to speak out on the nhl video game they
barely speak out on their own it used to be a big thing and now nba players still talk about their
like the rating it's not like they play shooter games now in the end a lot of guys still play
madden like a lot of football players love mad and a lot of people love a lot of nba players love
nba like it's a it's a game that has a lot of money behind it there you go yeah and this is
like all this stuff is coming from me you steve a person who plays actively with your friends like
a couple times a week and like i jerseys i play hours and hours of franchise mode every year and
i'm always gonna buy the game and do my gm thing because i love that doing that like these are
complaints from people who care about the game and we want to see the game be better i wouldn't
complain about it if i didn't like it exactly i would just be like oh that game is bad and leave
it yeah uh that's fascinating okay well there you go uh and one more thing here uh from garrett
while i 100 agree with you guys steve stay off your phone because there's something on there
that i don't want you to see uh while i do only because only because i trust me on this one while
i 100 agree with you guys about records staying in the city as in records accomplished with the
winnipeg jets in the 80s should still count now uh one question that i have is what happens to
the players that are on a team when it gets moved so let's say it's kachuk the original keith keith
yeah he's a winnipeg jet he sets a record in winnipeg and he goes to coyotes my thought is
when they move to arizona it all just resets so he's got the jets record but he also could
so we can do uh dustin bufflin dustin bufflin uh was that a thrasher moved to winnipeg those
those records with the thrashers are now a part of the new winnipeg organization
Which they shouldn't be
Rose Records should stay in Atlanta
That's what I'm saying
No that's stupid
What side are you on
I'm saying the NHL is stupid
Doing that is ridiculous
Are you against me on this
You were with me yesterday
The NHL barely gave Atlanta
A chance to fail
It's not working here goodbye
Imagine the Atlanta Thrashers had been given the same
Support that the Coyotes have been
Atlanta's a legitimately big
metropolitan area that needs
an NHL team. No, drop it.
Drop it immediately.
And like, I'm not saying
don't give Arizona
the support. I'm saying
where was that for Atlanta?
I guess this was their second try.
It was their second try.
I'm not sad Winnipeg got their team back.
No. But it does kind of
sink that Atlanta lost. And Atlanta's a major
metropolitan top 10 city, I'm pretty
sure. Okay, let's do the press conference.

don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life you know the same way
you can skip an ad i get it i'm siaya and i live in ice cove i've made some questionable decisions
that didn't end up the way i planned and today i'm still figuring it out somehow things usually
get worse before they get better apparently that's how i roll so bundle up and come along
for the bumpy ride don't miss the new season of north of north starting september 8th on cbc gem
all right piggybacking off of uh the conversation we were just having
uh the first question was from uh stink face mick poop lightning that's a good one who wanted to
bring up the fact that the ottawa senators do not retain the records of the original ottawa
senators why so if if i you guys would know this is hardcore hockey fans but there is the og ottawa
senators who are in like the original nhl they won the cups before the nhl and this is what stink
face brings up 1919 i think so if uh if the ottawa senators took the 1917 to 1934 nhl ottawa
senators records they'd have 11 stanley cups and you get you like we would count that towards the
record books like we count all of the original six daily are they pre-1917 cups no so they would
be within that era of the stanley cup are you sure stanley cup champions here stanley cups
the original ottawa centers 1903 nope 1904 1905 0609 10 11 20 yes 21 yes 23 27 yes four cups
all right four nhl cup four versus zero okay like okay let's scratch 11 because it was the
nha before that yeah 17 all right so four stanley cups is something we're just pretending they
didn't get did they go anywhere like did the nhl ottawa senators go to a different market and become
a different team i can tell you or did they just explode if you give me a moment i'm just scrolling
the bottom of the wikipedia page at the end of their uh era i'm pretty sure decline uh they had
a very small market nobody was going to the games is what it says huh um i like life the the rumor
surfaced that the senators would merge with the equally strapped new york americans however this
was denied by ottawa club president frank ahern uh who sought financial help from the league
blah blah throwing the home crowd oh the end of the ottawa senators era
so they relocated as a they continued as a senior amateur club it looks like they just kind of
ended the franchise yeah they the city of ottawa did not have a franchise again until the ottawa
senators franchise boarded 92 93 so they just kind of ended the franchise it's the same damn
team it's the same why do they name the senators st louis eagles okay is what they became like
come on come on that's ridiculous it's like like how are we gonna feel about uh the supersonics
when they eventually return to the nba because no that all belongs to oklahoma yeah no it doesn't
they're going to be an expansion franchise stop it yeah so the ottawa senators eventually moved
to the st louis uh became the st louis eagles and then so those four cups exist with the one
year that the st louis eagles existed in 1934 1935 and then they were disbanded stop it stop
no so the sins have four cups they should a hundred percent that's hilarious what the hell
i think that's really cool and nobody's i've never known that that the ottawa senators should
have four Stanley Cups. They should have those
in the Raptors. Yeah. Absolutely.
If the Leafs Cups count,
these should count too. Well, if the Arenas Cups count, yeah.
Sure. Why not?
All that.
Justice for Ottawa. Well, at very least
that team became this team.
This team.
True. But like this team
became a bunch
of non-NHL teams. Belongs to the city.
Belongs to the fans. It belongs to the city
and the fans.
That's dumb.
Dumb.
yes jesse i'm gonna ask this question from uh not brad marshan okay let me give steve an
opportunity to talk about himself steve i don't like that you've been hitting the gym lately
looking kind of swole in the latest dang it's video actually what do you say have i have you
i work out i work out uh i have a morning route i have like a five minute routine i do every
morning and uh that's mostly so that my back doesn't hurt and i try to ride the bike and i
have a gym session at least once a week also so that my back doesn't hurt you ride your palathon
yeah ride it a little bit yeah just a little bit oh man he does have ropes in his garage too
i got i do have the ropes and i gotta say shout out to this does that do anything
fuck you yes that's it though you want to come over and try let's come over go
come over you you tell me but i don't know the guns are solid the guns don't lie okay um i uh
yeah you should try them okay they take your breath away really fast it's like alarmingly
okay all right this one is from ballsy adam usually good with this kind of stuff this one
Ballsio6. Going to the
Minnesota Leafs game tomorrow.
This will be my first NHL
game I've ever been to. I'm
32 years old. I'm a lifelong
fan. I've played my whole life, just never had
the chance to get to an NHL game.
My company gave tickets out to my boss
who invited me and two others
that really are not my favorite people.
How do I enjoy this
game and what are some of the first
time things I should do?
Well, you gotta go for sushi beforehand.
No, it's in Minnesota.
Oh, it's in Minnesota, is it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've never, honestly, I've never spent any legitimate time in Minnesota
other than their international airport, which is a labyrinth.
You need to get yourself some sort of kitschy shit trinket souvenir
to commemorate your first game.
Yeah, you're right.
You're right.
It's your first game.
And get a jersey, too, unless you, like, if you already have one.
If you already have a jersey.
Yeah, why not?
Cool, but you should, how?
It's your first game, get a jersey.
The other part of the question.
they're going with their boss and two people that they're like about that they work with watch the
game watch the game be really into the game make it obvious that you're really into the game ignore
them yeah hey listen we all have to suck it up for hockey sometimes right yep that's okay i think
yeah i think you just you just enjoy it and um if remember that this is usually these events are
usually where you make it or break it with your organization and what i mean by that is people
get a little drunk they say a little too much to their boss maybe keep talking when they shouldn't
talk maybe they got bad beer breath here's what you do i would definitely say little yeah say
very little and have a beer do not now don't be icy don't be cold but uh yeah be very weary about
the amount of alcohol consumed definitely that's a very good point i should also tell you that
casperi kapanen uh has just gone on waivers what yeah yeah he was held out of practice this morning
that was just released he probably caps space for a trade maybe happening space i would say
go he can be sent down so 3.2 million dollars the leafs signed that deal it looks terrible
in retrospect man that guy looked like he had i know who just has that space though nobody
you'd have to retain and even then at a million seven five or whatever it would be it's still a
lot for barry cappin for a depth player i guess maybe not he could have had it all uh i don't
know we'll we'll see i mean he's still he's not even old no he's uh 2014 draft he's the same age
is kneelander the same draft oh i was there it was in philadelphia have i ever told you that
all right that's a tough one man well it should be an exciting weekend we'll find out what more
about captain but we'll find out about kane for sure uh and remember next week we got our
sportsy deadline show trade deadline friday are you ready for the dryden hunt deal yeah
