Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Courts and Globals!
Second year in a row, almost to the day, almost to the day, it's so good to see all of you.
We're thrilled, look at, oh man, the noise here is fantastic, it's good.
The room is hot
There's a lot of bodies in here
Physically hot
That's why I wore shorts man
I'm sorry for everybody that I'm man spreading to
You guys are like wearing jerseys and jeans
I'm like there's no way
You don't have to apologize to me brother
You look great
So it's great to be back here for another year Jesse
Thank you for repping the jersey
Listen
We are giving away a signed
Leafs jersey
Signed by us, though.
Sorry.
I know.
I know.
I always feel bad signing a Leafs jersey.
Oh, shit.
No, I always feel bad signing a Leafs jersey.
I feel like we're ruining it with our signatures.
I do, too.
I do, too.
We didn't play for the team.
Yeah.
I don't even like having my name on the back of a jersey.
No.
Well, your own jersey.
It's okay.
I have signed a Leafs jersey in front of a former Leaf.
Did they hit you?
He did not think it was cute.
No.
That's what I'm saying.
It was Bob McGill, too.
That's a scary one.
Go look at his hockey DB.
The PIMs are high.
Yeah, yeah.
Rookie record for penalty minutes still.
The longest drive competition is happening tonight.
Who's participating in that?
Because this is a, okay.
Now, I will, Jesse, I'm going to let you brag because Jesse has set the bar this year.
Who can beat Jesse's?
What was your highest?
We have 330 yards.
Oh, yeah.
Is what you're going to have to hit.
A lot of people just said, you know what?
I don't think I need to participate in that.
334 technically, but if you hit 330, you win.
Yeah.
Okay.
Shut up.
Yeah.
You hit 330.
Why don't you go hit 330, Abel?
I did.
I did.
I saw him do it.
In bay number five at the back, we've got our buddies at ODR Hockey Heroes.
Big shout out to them.
Local indie game.
And by the way, they've created SDP characters and they have a dangled Navy jersey in it.
Looks amazing.
and listen, the Corson Clubhouse
is a family-owned, family-operated
restaurant, so a big round of applause
to them.
It's so great to be here.
I think
if we're going to talk about round two here at the
Corson Clubhouse, we have to talk about what's changed.
Where were we last year at this time?
Last year at this time,
Connor Timmons
was big, and you know
what's funny? I'm going to bring him up later.
That's great. Look at you. I saw a Connor Timmons
jersey where is he stand up where is he oh wow that's a kachina kachina connor timmons vintage
god damn wow where did you get that um you don't remember do you that's great listen man i love a
drunk purchase that's wicked hell yeah oh that's beautiful listen i i uh uh so let's let's talk
about a little bit this so the leafs were coming off a second round appearance wow last year this
time that's crazy that's crazy what followed that unprecedented success it really felt like they
were on their way up yeah uh this year obviously we're coming off another game seven loss to boston
yeah yeah boo that exactly uh last year this time kyle dubas had gone to pittsburgh
and we were learning how to tree live tree love and tree laugh without him
uh this year we have a new coach what do we any thoughts on berube two days into his job
okay we're into that
okay that's positive that's that was largely positive ryan reeves today called the first
day of camp one of the two hardest days of camp he's ever experienced and it and it was not number
That's a number two.
So they're there to work.
Brian Reaves is in the building.
I wanted to, since I brought up Kyle Dubas,
I wanted to give you guys a little Kyle Dubas trivia.
What?
The Penguins caught six players today.
Sent them all back to their OHL teams.
How many of them?
Somebody said Crosby.
Crosby.
They nailed it.
You know, it's about time.
That guy's overrated.
How many of the players that the Pittsburgh Penguins caught,
there were six, were Sue Greyhounds?
you say four four any guesses i was gonna say two and then half the room said four
so i'm gonna say four it's three oh what wow out of the six yeah charlie schneckle who's a goalie
uh caden carlisle and justin uh cloutier i think good job whatever french you know come on
adam since we're on the topic of the pittsburgh penguins yes always forever
why are you so down on them because they're bad thank you yeah no here's okay people
his guys he loves his guys and sending them back to the zoo well and he loves yeah
i think here's my beef with the penguins is they went in and kyle was like i'm gonna make my mark
and he signed graves and then he signed jari who eight months later from what we're hearing they
They don't trust Jari within the organization.
So they've had to replace him with Nedeljkovic,
who two other organizations dropped because they didn't trust him.
Now, see, they shouldn't have trusted Jari before Dubas got there,
but he just got here.
I don't know what I'm doing.
I'm just a little guy.
And then he goes and he gets Eric Carlson.
And, you know, and it's like ostensibly to make the power play great.
And what happened, Jesse?
What held Pittsburgh out of the playoffs last year?
They had one of the worst power plays of all time.
So that's my grind, is that I'm struggling to see how this gets better.
And what happened last year was those moves necessitated him doing next to nothing this year.
He was able to get Kevin Hayes and I think who?
Matt Grizzly.
Matt Game Breaker Grizzly.
You're absolutely right.
In the absence of Riley Smith.
Michael Bunting?
Well, that was a good pick up.
I don't mind big.
To replace Gensel?
Adam, I've always said they're the same player.
sleeper pickup i think you're just salty because you're the canadian media and crosby didn't go to
the abs yeah that's i think that's i think that's what happened here or montreal um uh so i wanted
to uh i wanted to ask you on a on a scale of like woo or boo how are we feeling about the leaps this
year it's not that is not as strong as last year i wish everyone listening to this is in this room
that is the
they don't have wings
on the menu more mild than that
that was
tough I got the lime salt and pepper
that might have been spicier
holy
holy
send this to Shani now what's his email
give me some reasons
why are you
tentative
history decor
discipline
Pat, you're ready.
Poor guy just got here.
That guy hates AP.
Hates it.
Worst podcast.
What else we got?
What else we got?
Core four.
Hold on.
Hold on.
You have doubts with Joseph Johnson.
The bar is slow, I heard.
The bar is slow.
Shanahan needs to go.
That's the biggest part.
Shanahan needs to go.
I don't know.
No, we're just repeating what the audience says.
I'm not saying that he does.
Steve and Jesse.
I am.
Are you swayed more in how you were feeling by the audience reaction,
or are you rebelling against and going, no, they're wrong, and here's why?
How can you blame anyone for not believing in the Toronto Maple Leafs?
All they've proven to you is that they can't be successful.
And in this era, time and time again, we reach preseason,
and the expectations are they're going to do something,
and every time the expectations, they fall short of them.
So if you go into this season and you're like,
ah, I'm down on the Leafs.
I just got to wait and see if they actually do something
and they got to prove it to me.
I don't blame you.
There was something so heartbreaking in it
because there was a want there.
They're like, I want to go nuts right now.
And what came out was, eh.
And we want to cheer for our team.
Hooray.
But we also believe in loving ourselves
and not lying to ourselves.
We don't have the brains of goldfish.
Like, we remember what happened four months ago
when they couldn't get out of the first round.
You know what's going to be so sick?
When Nikita Grabenkin scores a hat trick tomorrow
and we lose our shit.
Oh, yeah.
We lose a lot.
At the end of the day, we're still cheering for them.
Absolutely.
You know?
Absolutely.
Actually, again, there's another Nikita Grabenkin.
Those are a couple of players.
Timmons, Grabenkin.
So today...
They are the same.
They are the same.
No, here's why they're the same.
Every year at camp,
We fall in love with somebody.
When I was growing up, there was a guy, I can't even remember his first name.
His last name was McLean, and he scored a bunch.
And then there was Bob Wren.
Anybody remember Bob Wren?
No, nobody remembers Bob Wren.
Casuals.
He played one game.
Just casuals.
How don't you remember?
I think Lonnie Bohannes had a couple of really good preseasons as well, right?
And then last year we have Fraser Minton, and we have Connor Timmons, who lit it up.
Lit it up.
Easton Cowan.
So we're falling in love with somebody this year.
And Craig Berube said, he's been very noticeable for me, big, strong kid, first and foremost, intelligent, got a good hockey IQ, not afraid to take the body, got good skill.
I think that's high praise from a guy like Craig Berube.
Now, you're not used to Craig, but he's not the kind of guy that gets effusive with his praise, so we hear.
That's him talking about Nylander at center, right?
No, that's Grebenkin.
Oh, it's Grebenkin.
so what do we know about this grabenkin kid because i think nothing steve's gonna know
what do we think um i think uh leaf fans have been sort of uh tapped out on the draft the the
last few years and you can be forgiven because they've had like no picks and remember we were
in montreal again they had no picks uh but they made two on the second day if i'm not mistaken
I might be the fifth round pick was Nikita Grabenkin and the seventh rounder I think was
Vyacheslav Peksa he's in the goalie system it doesn't matter who the seventh rounder was
Grabenkin was the fifth rounder I think he was a it was the second year of his draft eligibility
if I'm not mistaken but I think the Leafs two first picks from that year are related I think
i know how they found him so he played in the mhl which is basically like junior in russia
uh for metallurg magnetogorsk and they had the 25th overall pick people forget because they took
fraser minton 38th they had the 25th overall pick they ended up dealing it to chicago
in the peter marazic deal danila yurov who i know danila yurov who the minnesota wild took 24th
that year was on grabenkin's team there was another kid i can't remember his name but he
was a second rounder so he was 44th overall i think to chicago he also would have been in that
range was on that team and i think they were scouting those two and they're like gosh darn
this grabenkin guy is really good he played more time on that team than the other two did uh
yurov got called up to the khl and everyone got all hot and bothered about that but this guy if
you watch him play if you watch his highlights if his name like if he didn't play in russia where
he's out of sight out of mind if he didn't have a name that we're still not entirely sure how to
pronounce it we would be talking about him the way we talked about matthew nice wow he's big
he's mean is he on the roster opening that goes to the net uh that that if you want to sound so
freaking smart in front of your friends you go this grebenkin guy i think you might make the
team out of camp it's always good when you say someone's going to make the team out of camp that
no one's ever heard of where does he slot in uh i think okay you know how you never you don't want
robertson on the fourth line because it's a waste of everyone's time yeah he could make it in a
depth role and then if he does really well you throw him up i think it's worth note that this
guy has come in when cowan has so much fanfare when other players have so much fanfare and he's
on a line with Pontus Holmberg who's played the majority of the past two seasons in the NHL
and Max Pacioretty who's Max Pacioretty let's pay no attention to the Achilles or whatever
he's not two-time two-time Achilles yeah like there are certain players where you can look at
who they're slotted with in the preseason and you just go oh well take care perhaps don't unpack all
your things in the hotel like you know just you know the underwear and socks and things of that
nature but grabenkin i think uh there's a very good chance he sticks around for a little bit
we don't know good we don't know i don't have hockey 69 points no um it i know he didn't have
the most overwhelming uh he had a good regular season in the khl last year he had a very
underwhelming playoff i think it was six points in 23 games but his team did something crazy you're
not going to believe this they won they won the gagarin wow what's that like the khl also isn't
really a stats driven league where you look at the guys and you say oh that guy scored 60 you
know that doesn't happen in the cage no and they're also like how old are you are you under
25 i i hope like who are you pointing i hope you frig off forever no they hate they hate unless
you're ivan demidov like unless you're way up there dude even mitch kov was healthy scratched
at the beginning of last season.
That's how little they care about people
in their early 20s, right?
So I think there's a chance.
Jesse.
Cowan in or out of the lineup?
Cowan in or out of the lineup?
Hold on.
Q&A is coming later.
Yeah, yeah.
Like, listen,
we're thrilled to be in the same room with you
as you are with us.
We're thrilled that you're here.
But we can't just make this a one-on-one here.
That's all I'm saying.
Bettman's going to bend the rules
and the roster can have 30 guys.
It's going to be fine.
Don't worry about it.
All right.
Now, temperature for the room, and then I'm coming to Jesse.
So hot.
Knee lander.
Center.
Yay or nay?
Okay.
Let's do hands up for yay, hands up for no.
Okay.
Hands up for yay.
Hands up for yes.
One more time.
Oh, okay.
That's decent.
Okay.
Hands up for no.
There's more yeses for sure.
There's a lot of undecided votes.
Yeah.
Get campaigning, Craig.
Get on the trail.
Get to Pennsylvania.
All right.
Are we seeing it tomorrow night?
Nylander?
I don't know who's dressing tomorrow.
Okay.
I don't know who's dressing tomorrow.
It's always like half.
We'll see it at some point this week.
I'm excited to see it.
The first time we see him, we'll be up to minute.
Jesse, tell me, as an anxious Leaf fan, tell me why it's going to work.
Why it's going to work?
I don't know.
Tell me how it's going to work.
I can't confidently say.
Just be his lawyer or his agent.
Tell me.
The challenge is out there.
We know that we tried it last year as a team.
The Toronto Maple Leafs said, Willie, you're going to be at the center.
Sheldon Keefe took that away from him before we could even drop the puck on opening night.
You know, they abandoned it.
So now you get a challenge to this guy who's ultra competitive.
We know Willie is always out there trying his best.
You know, sometimes he doesn't backtrack.
Is he always out there trying his best?
He's always out there trying his best.
He's mostly out there trying his best.
I'm trying to believe in Willie.
I've seen some shifts where he hasn't tried his best.
And I love him.
You told me to pitch you the idea of this working.
Okay.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
The idea of this working.
It doesn't have to be truthful.
Okay, give it to me.
So he is out there giving his all at all moments.
And we see the defense that we've been asking him to play all his career.
So he shows up.
He plays both ends of the ice.
Craig Beruba is going to call him Chief because everybody likes calling him Chief.
Chief gives him the run.
And he says, here's a month.
Whether it goes well or not, you're going to get this month.
And Willie tries his hardest.
That's all it's going to take is him trying his hardest.
Okay, now who was swayed by that?
Oh, you guys are cold.
It's just like the Leafs in the playoffs.
Where's the evidence that it's going to work?
Willie's never been a great two-way player.
Yes, very, very true.
The YouTube video will not properly illustrate
that you look to a room of well over 100 people
and not a single hand went up.
I felt like we were a cover band at the bar going,
whoo, how we doing tonight?
Nobody responds.
That's what that felt like.
When you told me, pitch you why it's going to work,
i was very reluctant to i'm sorry i put you on the spot a million times and i'm off the side
that is probably going to fail again here no let's throw some hot sauce on it domi nylander
yarn croak dumb and stupid domi nylander grabenkin get on board get on board let's get nuts
do you think willie at center works cowan nylander grabenkin um listen i think it has to
um listen we ad nauseum have talked about the core four and all that it's i think frankly kind
of psychotic to continue to try to do it again and again and again what would be even worse
is just slotting everyone in the exact same position like willie at least that's like a
wrench in the cogs for for goodness sure it makes things interesting you know what like
what what if he's worse defensively than john tavaris gasp what if he's better offensively
oh what if john tavaris is a better player because he doesn't have to be a second line
center in the nhl anymore oh what if he plays i think he's gonna play a ton of hockey on the
left wing this year what if cj's what if what if what if you know what i'm tired of seeing
is i hope craig berube never did does this because it was one of my least favorite things that
sheldon keith did after a penalty kill you're like oh he's juicing up the top line and he threw out
marner matthews tavaris or like or willie willie marner i don't know if i saw that line score once
right you know what i mean like sometimes they will hey they do a little bit of a flurry but
it would add up to nothing try something anything different so if i see a stupid line like domi
neilander yarn croak and i'm like eh that kind of looks like poo uh it also couldn't be worse
than losing all of the time well listen i think the only two options yeah no i don't yeah
that was that was what's the other one winning that was april jar adjacent sir
I don't know what does that
Hey is there fans of other teams in here
We got a Montreal fan
Boston
Oh my god
We're booing you
Because we're salty about it man
It's not personal
They were saying brew
Is that a Sabre jersey
We got a Sabres jersey
We got a Avs jersey
Then we say Drew
Drew's cousin
Rangers
Rangers.
Jesse, there's your guy.
Oh, we got a lightning boy.
Yeah, Rangers.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, and we got a Minnesota Wild fan.
Look at that.
Oh.
They exist.
They exist.
No, I'm kidding.
One of our producers, Hayden, is a big Minnesota Wild fan, too.
I don't know why.
I don't know.
I keep asking him, and I'm like, yeah.
He seems so nice.
Yeah, I know.
Sorry.
I want to talk about this a little bit, and then we are going to do some question and
answer, because that's always fun.
And by the way, we're starting with you, just so you know.
Steve has
a book coming out in a few weeks
now
I want you to know that
Steve was bragging about something backstage
you want to tell everybody the news
I don't remember
I have so many accomplishments
pre-release
Steve's book is number one in Canada
in sports
humor
and I just want to say
Did they make up that category for you
To say you could be number one in something
What's number two
Some other book but guess what's number three
Also me the audio book
Let's go
So
Steve
Before you know we want you to sell the book here
Because listen it's number one in sports humor
You can tell all your friends guys it's amazing
I'm looking it up
How many zoo stories in the book
i think one there is a zoo story it's not a story it's i had to it was relevant to the
conversation i had to be like i work at the zoo it's a drive-by yeah if you your forward is longer
than the zoo mention yeah what is it jess steve beat out oh breaking the ice a sweet small town
Hockey Rom-Com.
The number two book.
It's the number
two book on
sports humor. It is
part of a series called
Love on Thin Ice.
You're a dick. I'm buying that book.
You're being mean.
I'm buying that
You're not the hockey rom-com genre
Congratulations
Alright alright
Book overview
What do an entitled billionaire
And small town ice skating coach
Have in common
Oh that sounds fish out of water
You stink Adam Wilde
So here are your characters
We've got Ellie
My life is not turning out
The way I thought it would
Someone just yelled out
My daughter reads those.
Congrats, Steve.
Shut up.
Listen.
So we got Ellie and we got Zach.
Ellie's mom is suffering with some health issues.
I'm making ends meet by giving ice skating lessons at Maple Falls.
I'd be in serious trouble had the hearts not given me that job.
Why didn't you just write this?
This sounds better, frankly.
I'd rather read this than your book.
Cancel your pre-order and buy that.
Which makes it impossible to say no when they ask me to let Troy's obnoxious billionaire brother stay in the cabin on my mom's property.
That sounds interesting.
During a charity hockey event.
Now, here's Zach.
First, the tabloids call me out for being a cheapskate.
And then Yolanda Sims takes to national television to tell everybody, I'm a vicious heartbreaker.
Oh, Steve, how could you compete with this?
Hey, hey, that person's a writer.
I know.
I hope next time you write a book...
I am not.
You know how many times I'd be like, man, this is hard.
Oh, I don't, like, do this.
This isn't, like, my gig.
Writing's actually quite hard.
Writing's very, very difficult, especially when you're making...
But the book's great.
Yeah.
So why should people read this book?
Mine?
Yours.
Oh, okay, just making sure.
That one, I mean...
Well, that one's obvious.
You sold it great.
I'm pre-ordering before I leave today.
I actually really want to buy that book.
uh so i was asked we were trying to come up with all these different concepts and i haven't lived
enough life to write another autobiography uh and also how arrogant to write that before i even
turned 30 yeah but uh this one um it was just it was very simple we had all these different
concepts and it's like what if you just ranted and like raved and talked about whatever you want
top of mind try not to do the typical stuff necessarily um but just do whatever you're
passionate about so it was nice for me because i didn't have to worry about writing it in order
that was pretty cool uh but there's something for everyone right i i i didn't i wanted to talk about
bar arguments and like all the conversations that are going to happen in here tonight someone's
going to bring up oh yeah nylander is going to work great at center and someone's going to call
you a stooge for even suggesting it right so yeah there you go so it's all about convincing that guy
so it's i talk about like how to have that argument but have it not be like politics there
doesn't need to be a winner or loser it's okay if you come away from it going oh yes good point
and i still disagree but good point yeah yeah um you know there's no old people talking down
young people there's no young people talking down to old people it's across generations there's no
such thing as a damn time machine so stop talking about sticking alex ovechkin or connor mcdavid in
one um video games goalie mount rushmore was anyone actually better than gretzky does the
hawk to a girl get a mention no i had to think about it though are you going on the show to
promote your book do you know that would be incredible yeah it would be amazing talk to a
Puck tour. That's a book tour.
I'm going on a book tour
to sell my book.
All right.
Well done.
Well done.
I'll see you soon, Haley.
Does anybody like prizes?
All right. Now, Jesse,
we're going to start with the warm-up prizes
here because we're going to make this work throughout, right?
Yeah, we'll do a couple, then we'll break,
then we'll do a couple. So as you know, Steve likes
dolls. Figures!
And we have
and our friends at McFarland Toys
have some dolls for you.
And you don't know which one you're getting.
Yeah, there's a few different ones.
It might be a Nick Suzuki.
It might be a Jack Eichel.
It might be an Austin Matthews.
It might be an Austin Matthews.
Don't worry.
I'm not going to give it away.
No.
Keep that one.
So do you want to handle trivia here?
Because you are the trivia master.
We wanted to do NHL jersey number trivia.
I'm going to yell out a player.
You got to tell me his jersey number.
I love the O's, by the way.
Everybody's like, ooh.
Are we doing shout out or hand?
Hand.
Hands up.
Then we ask.
Yeah, because we can't.
If we do shout out, then I got to try to.
Yeah, it's too hard.
I got to pull up the.
Oh, I can't even.
I can't give you a hint.
That'd be cheating.
You know, I can't tell them what player I'm pulling up.
All right.
I got the roster here.
Read the rest of the description of that book.
We're going with Dimitro Timoshev.
Oh, my God.
Right here, first hand.
41.
Well done.
Wow.
Come on up.
Wow.
Hey, I like the Dubas shirt.
That's great.
That's amazing.
Where did you get a Dubas shirt?
I don't know.
My sister's a fucking weirdo.
He said his sister is an effing weirdo.
Anybody in the back?
All right.
All right.
We'll do one more right now.
We got more to do.
We got more to do.
Don't worry.
We also have Steve's books we can give away.
Your first one.
First one.
Your first one.
not new book we don't we wanted to have them available it's they're not ready i know i know
we can't all right we got oh we got the zoo book come on give us the new one we're going a little
zoo book is very good we're going a little off the board here all right the 1920 flyers
what was brian elliott's number 1920 2019 oh got it right here incorrect
No, you can't go again
Oh, in the back
No, black hat
No
Right here
No
No
Say Pats
No
Right here
No
No
No
No
Jesse's no is crazy
No
No
No
37
Stamins!
Holy moly.
Let's go, Stamins.
Connor Timmons was fired up for that one.
Let's go.
Wow, that was...
Woo!
Hey, look at the flow.
Well done.
That was good.
That was great.
That was great.
Now, should I make them easier or harder?
No, I like the hard.
The hard?
The hard is more fun?
Come on, guys.
No, hard is way more fun.
Okay, so we do have...
Whenever we do this, we do some questions, answers, and stuff.
And obviously after this, we're going to have meet and greet and that sort of thing.
And it'll be over by the darts.
And there will be a bit of a lineup.
If you can line up towards the bathroom and not around the bar, that'd be great.
Because last time we had people around the bar and there were people, weirdly, who were upset they couldn't get to the bar.
I don't get it.
Yeah, yeah.
So, and it's also for the staff, too, to make it easier for them.
So, questions?
Sir, I'm going to start with you.
Give us one.
What do you got?
who's your under the radar pick for the toronto maple leafs out of camp i'm assuming it's the
okay you know what sucks it's never someone you want right if it was someone you want
they would be on the radar right so it's i'm so i i looked at it and new coach and we always think
new coach you know what that means he's gonna do all the things i want wrong yeah no he's gonna do
what he wants and for some reason i looked at the d pairs and i went one of dakota murmis or
philippe myers is going to make this team whoa really i don't know i don't know how that's a
pick one of them six foot seven the other played 50 nhl games last year okay yeah all right jesse
do you have one uh no i i don't know if we see minton or cowan this year do you i don't think
we're gonna see mitten i think he's hurt mitten's hurt cowan's got i guess that'd be an outside shot
yeah you know but it seems like they're collecting forwards that would just push them down they're
They're intentionally putting Cowan in a prove-it position.
Right.
Like, he's got to really take someone's spot if he's going to make this game.
He's got to defeat boss by boss by boss.
You know, with the PTOs.
And, like, Lorenz getting injured really sucks for him.
Because, like, there's a job there.
I still think he's going to be there.
He's probably going to sign.
That would be my pick, by the way.
So, Cowan's probably going to maybe get a little stint and then go back down.
Potentially Cade Weber as well.
Potentially.
Maybe it's a few games.
If not right now, probably later on this season.
Well, we'll see.
We'll see.
All right.
I'm going to go.
I got one more answer.
I just want to hear the reaction of the room.
You're always one injury away, Matt Murray.
Oh.
Does Matt Murray start games?
Does Matt Murray start games this season?
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Matt Murray will start games this year.
Absolutely.
Okay.
I am not
Listen
Here's the deal
I'm a Leaf fan
Absolutely
Joseph Wall
I don't know if we're gonna make it to the meet and greet
I know
I'm gonna get killed before that
It's gonna be the meet and greet
Stallers is great
I think you guys are gonna like Stallers a lot more than you think you are
That guy has a fantastic ERA from last year
Led the league in games
Over 25 games I think it was
Save percentage
Save percentage
He's amazing
And he's 6'7 every time he's on the ice
ERA
If
If
Okay I like that
If Wool
Is
Is
going to be himself, then I expect
him to tweak something.
And then it's not going to be Dennis Hildeby that comes
in. It's going to be Matt Murray. I know, it's
depressing, right? I know. I hope he tweaks his ability
to play games.
So that's what I think is going to happen. All right, we're going to go
to this side of the room. Anybody over here have a question?
Yes, sir, in the Leafs jersey, the classic one.
Here we go.
Go, Castle!
All right.
What's up?
Does Nylander
outplay the $11.5 million
dollars that the Leafs are paying him per year.
Jesse, I'm going to leave that to you. If he becomes
a second line center who puts up
40 goals,
he's going to need 100 points.
He was going to
do it, and then he's tailed off towards
the end of the year, and he didn't quite get there.
96. Yeah, he's right there.
I think he can live up to it.
Kenny, I'll play it. 100 points
is $11 million.
If you ask
Alan Walsh, the answer is yes
because every player is underpaid
by about 10 million uh if he keeps up with 11 and a half if he is i mean playoff nylander was good
when he's always good and it's not that second half nylander was bad but the guy we saw like
heading into sweden was just a monster if he's that consistently oh yeah beautiful all right on
this side of the room my right your left which one do you guys want to go with anyone to pick
St. Pat's.
All right, St. Pat's.
One team in the NHL now has adopted changes on their rebrand.
Next team to do a rebrand in the NHL.
Next team.
Team that needs a rebrand in the NHL jersey-wise.
Can I start with this?
Yeah.
Quit your job and get into something where you use your voice.
Yeah, get a good voice.
He's got a great voice.
That's a silky, beautiful voice.
Okay.
Oh, my God.
Rebrand.
Or, unless you do that already, then stay at your job.
All right.
All right, Steve.
What was the question?
Rebrand.
Rebrand.
Rebrand.
And I'm pulling up the logos here.
Dallas Stars
Dallas Stars are terrible
Sorry that's the ugliest jersey
The Dallas Stars jersey is the ugliest jersey in the NHL
I will die on that hill
It's so bad
Even go back to what it was
When they first got there it was great
Are you booing me? Am I getting booed?
Who's booing me?
I've never been the
Oh yeah you deserve to be booed
I like Dallas
It's emotionless
It's like somebody was like let's glow this in the dark
That'll
It's the construction jersey.
I got one.
Construction jersey, yeah.
I got one.
New owner.
It's only a matter of time.
The Ottawa Senators.
Oh, that's a good one.
That's a good one.
They go back to like the Albertson ones.
Maybe something completely different that we've never seen.
No, not the FNUF one.
The FNUF, yeah.
I like the one where the Senator's looking at you.
Yeah, that's the FNUF one.
Oh, that's the FNUF one.
It's terrifying.
I hate it.
But not like good terrifying.
Jesse?
I've never been the biggest fan of the Florida Panthers crest.
The one that looks like a soccer crest.
I like the original.
Yeah, I like the cat.
The cat's awesome.
Oh, it looks like a security company logo?
Yeah, I've never been a fan of that one.
Okay, that's good.
That's a good question.
Good question.
All right, we're going to go down the center.
I'm sorry, buddy.
I'm going to go to the back, and then I'm coming back to you.
Yes, sir.
Group banking question?
It'll sink in.
It'll sink in.
Is Tony Hand not in the Hall of Fame?
You got to repeat.
Who gets to the Hall of Fame first?
Nikita Grabenkin or Tony Hand?
Is Tony Hand not in the Hall?
He should be.
Now, for those of you who don't know who Tony Hand is.
I'm going to die.
What?
What?
What?
He doesn't know.
I'm going to go with...
Wait, you don't know?
He doesn't know.
Oh, man.
This is great.
Have we got a story for you?
Tony Hand, he was more than good enough to play in the NHL,
but he was homesick
and he's from Britain
and so he just went
and scored 200 points
in Britain every year.
It's a beautiful thing.
Isn't it nice?
It's so sweet.
The Scottish Gretzky.
Adam, did you know that?
You know, when we do this podcast
the reaction we want is
oh, that's so nice.
Yeah.
Like that is...
I'm just a tag along girl.
Well, that's...
Oh, okay, all right.
She says she's just
the tag along girl.
All right, I'm going to go
yes sir in the front here.
What's your name?
Grabenkin, by the way.
Okay, Matt, what's up?
When he inevitably walks and we get nothing,
where's Marta going to sign?
Where is Marta going to sign?
I knew it.
Boo!
I want you to know.
Everybody boo Matt!
Boo!
Do not boo Matt.
Do not boo Matt.
Producer Drew said to me tonight,
he's like, listen, if you don't bring up Marta,
there's going to be a riot in here.
And I said, Drew, please don't make me ask that question.
And I'm glad you did.
So thank you for taking the pressure off me.
So I am your protector tonight.
Thank you.
Things are going so well for the Leafs because he goes when he inevitably walks
and I'm dialing in like, all right, Tavares question.
Let's go.
So I think he's staying.
And I switched that because I was convinced in July that he was going.
And I think that especially with Nylander at center, if that works,
this whole thing makes a lot more sense.
Like this is the problem, right?
We were like, okay, so we've got $22 million on the wing, on right wing, and you move Nylander to center.
All of a sudden, you've got $25 million in center, and you've got $12 million.
Okay, I can see that working, and I can see them still being in the same position with a nice game seven loss in the first round.
But I do think he's going to stay, and I think it's going to be about $12 million.
We're right there.
Can we do hands?
Hands for Marner stays, hands for Marner goes.
Yeah, hands for Marner stays.
What do you think?
What do you think?
Is he staying?
Oh, Marner stays a lot.
Yeah?
Okay.
Okay, hands down.
What do you want?
Do you want him to stay?
Okay, we got to get out of here.
Hands up if you want him to stay.
Yeah.
Yeah, and you should.
He's amazing.
Okay, no, let's do hands for go.
All right, so hands up if you want Mitch Marner to leave town.
Oh, it's not insignificant.
We got a Marner Knights jersey here, by the way.
I would say 60-40 stay
60-40
Yeah
Okay
It's a conversation that I'm excited not to have all year
No, we're going to have it all year
It's going to come up
It is going to happen
And here's what's going to happen, guys
What's going to happen is
They are waiting for him to hit the ice
Mitch Marner is going to have a career year this year
He's going to be unbelievable
Whatever love you had for him
You're going to have even more
And then the numbers are going to get thrown out there
November, December
You're going to start to hear
It happened with Nylander
Oh, we'll just go into the season, it's no big deal
Goes through Sweden, tears it up
And they're like, we better sign this guy
Who's going to be the first person to ask the question
After Mitch Marner's hot start
How do the Leafs afford him?
Steve Simmons, right?
That's a Steve Simmons article
Yeah, I think we know who that's going to be
But we won't mention them by name
I said it
So, yeah
I don't want to throw guys under the bus
It's going to be Jonas Siegel
okay we're gonna go back over to this side of the room yes sir in the justin bieber jersey yes sir
if tavares resigns
honestly i wouldn't you gotta finish the question oh sorry um the re the the question is if john
tavares re-signs what's the term what's the money and i i'm gonna i'll start this i think
they go you know okay stamp coast jerseys here is perfect you know how the the lightning apparently
offered stamp coast a little bit of money over like a really long term i wouldn't be surprised
if tavara signs the same deal tana did which is like six years at like three or four million bucks
and and as that happens because he's not here's what he here's what he cares about he cares about
staying he's got a wife that actually works in town at one of the hospitals he's got three kids
I don't think they want to move
I don't think they want to move
And I think that
It's relevant
I really do think his personal situation plays this
I think he loves being a Leaf
I think he wants to win here
I think he's staying
Have you seen the tax bill?
Yeah
I was thinking discount until that story broke
And I went ooh perhaps not
So what do you think?
What is
Okay what do we think about
20 million dollars
per year.
No, $20 million
divided by four seasons,
which is a $5 million cap.
I don't hate that.
No?
I don't hate that.
Why not?
Yeah, yeah.
I like that.
I said four.
I just said four.
You said five.
You guys are like,
whoa, not four.
No, no, four years,
five mil per.
I don't mind that at all.
I think that's great.
I think every Leaf fans
takes that every day of the week.
I just...
Five million's too much
for an 80-point player?
the cap's going up like five million isn't what it used to be yeah i i i know this guy like
when are we gonna stop when are we gonna stop being like all right this guy's signing for like
league men and like has anyone noticed zach hyman's gone like he's not here like we all
thought what are you clapping oh oilers fans got it that that actually makes quite a lot of sense
but like oh yeah he's gonna take a discount he didn't take a discount he left I think Tavares
well he took a discount with Edmonton yeah uh I would like Tavares to do that I would like him to
be the hero Gotham needs we'll see I'll believe it when I see it okay I like that uh we'll go
back to center here yes sir with the beard and the Leafs gray hat I was on a random podcast
yes and he was really serious about i don't think he told us that so no no i said it on uh
repeat it for the audience uh he's so i i went on the show and i said if marner signs for 12.6
I'm going to start making videos about basketball
instead and the
reason it's Steve 12.6
is so specific it's what Nathan
McKinnon makes
oh yeah I don't
want to live in a world where he makes the same amount
no no
fair I think that's fair all right
all right no one no one needs to tell you how
good Nathan McKinnon is okay
now Jesse we have another
we have another doll to give away give me a second
let me prepare the next and we'll
you know what Steve and I'll answer a question while Jesse's getting
the next trivia up.
Yes, sir, here,
right in the front row.
Yeah, you came last year.
You came back this year.
You see this becoming
a yearly event.
Do we see this,
the St. Catherine's event
becoming a yearly event?
Do you want that?
You want that?
Where's the owner?
Yeah, where are the owners?
I hope it's not in the kitchen.
So they're the ones
you want to let them know.
And by the way,
what do you think?
they're clapping
so that's good
that's a good
and hell yeah
we want to be back
absolutely
this is
and I think this is
a fun kickoff
to the year
like this has been
a nice little
this is a tradition
yeah
till the Leafs win the cup
we'll see you
in 40 years
Jesse you got one
on the
16-17
Toronto Maple Leafs
remember do not
blurt
what number
did Josh Levo
Nowhere.
Incorrect.
Say it, Pat.
32.
Get up here.
There he is.
What happened to the rest of them?
Are there a couple more over there?
Oh, they're over here.
They're over here.
We got a couple more.
There you go.
There you go.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.
Oh, hang on to that.
Hang on to that.
We got a Rob while you're there.
Do you mind just picking those up?
Thank you, sir.
We got a couple more.
Let's do that.
Okay.
Do you want another number?
Yeah.
So do you have one or do you want me to ask a question in between?
You can ask a question.
Okay.
Now, I want your question because we were hard on you for the Montreal Jersey.
And I feel like – first off, what's your name?
Hayden.
Hayden.
Everybody say hi, Hayden.
No, do not boo Hayden.
Do not boo Hayden.
What did Hayden do to you?
It's Hayden.
Hayden.
Hayden.
Well, don't boo Hayden either, wherever Hayden is.
All right, Hayden, what's your question, buddy?
So, realistically, barring injury, what do you think Max Pacioretty has to do?
Realistically, barring injury, which is a big one,
what can Max Pacioretty do for the Toronto Maple Leafs?
I mean, so he was – Caps fans were really hard on him last year,
and it's interesting because they made the playoffs in some – like a miracle, right?
And he – you have to remember, he was spectacular for Vegas right up until the injury.
and he was good for the hurricanes for like five minutes yes and then got injured and then got
injured and and i will say having talked to myself or perhaps i'm a little biased i am actually
rooting for max patch ready very much because i know that he's uh first off he is alan's client
so there's a soft spot there obviously no to walt's client uh and i do have a soft spot for
alan always because he's such a great guy and and to be honest with you with patches this guy's like
obsessive about health obsessive about health like to the point where if you if you talk to
like one-on-one you probably get bored um and and that is the kind of person you know that's a thing
you've done that is able to what you've talked to him one-on-one i know i know he only talked
about it for about five minutes oh okay yeah after that you're gonna lose me got it uh no but he's
he's um and the the one thing that they have talked about and and we knew is that that you
know the leafs brought him in and trained and checked him and checked him and checked him on
the ice and he's never been the fastest guy but he's a heck of a lot faster what the alternative
would have been and I think he's going to be really good if we can get 40 points from Max
Pacioretty in 75 games and I think that's completely doable based on his points rate
last year in Washington I'm happy that's what I expect that was the number you said 45 40 44
40 points in 75 games so his his assist rate in Washington was adequate it was fine the goal
scoring rate was unacceptable he scored like four goals if he gets that into the 20-ish range do you
know what his shooting percentage was uh who 2.2 oh wow he's a career rhymed he's like a career 11
or 12 percent shooter so i feel like there's a regression up do you know what i mean it's
probably some luck and probably his injuries limited him from getting to the areas that he
needed to go to to score uh but hockey players don't forget how to play hockey his body did
briefly yeah we'll see what he can do all right jesse next trivia all right from the 23 24
New York Islanders.
Oh, man.
Casey Sezikis.
I think I'm back at the...
Oh, my goodness.
Get up here.
Wow.
Are you a Casey Sezikis fan?
We had a guy right near the front go,
whoo-voom, checked his hair.
Are you an Islanders fan?
I was at the 1,000-point game in New York.
He was at...
Hold on.
So, hold on.
What's your name?
Steve.
Steve!
Steve!
Yeah, Steve!
Steve was at the Tavares
Thousand point game
In
On the island
Wow
Not in the island
On the island
On the island
Yes
So were you there as a Leaf fan
Or as an Isles fan
You were there as a Leaf fan
And you remember
Casey Zizekas' number
From that game
Of course I do
He said of course he does
He was there working
He was a cameraman
In the dad's box
Can I ask you a question
That night
How did Islanders fans treat you
Terribly
Terribly
Oh wow
He says terribly
Terribly
They hated Tavares more
They hated Tavares more than you.
Well, that's good, Steve.
I'm glad.
That's fair.
That one must have been a fun trip to make.
You know, when they win and he gets the 1,000.
Like, that was awesome.
That's cool.
Very, very cool.
Nice.
Magic night.
Let's do one more of these and we'll save the league jersey for last.
Do you have another prize?
Yeah, right by your leg.
Okay, okay.
I didn't see one.
Okay.
Let's do the Boston Bruins.
Oh, I know somebody's got it.
Look at him.
Mason Lowry.
Mason Lowry.
oh right here six yeah well done that man with the bruins oh no way that's crazy everybody boo
them
just like brad marshand what did i do what did i do
yeah that speaker came right at him yeah that's a clean hit clean hit all right
slew foot you slew footed our audio how dare you i'm glad the bruins fan got that one yeah
no that's great that's great okay so we'll save the leafs jersey for last guys any more questions
oh well we got lots okay uh we'll go here
I can go quick
so let me just
let me just repeat the question
so the question for anybody that missed it is
did you ever have a player
that didn't pan out
that you were convinced
despite having no evidence
that they were going to be
the greatest player ever
I think this might be a universal experience for everybody in this age bracket, but video games convinced me that Kyle Wellwood was the fastest player alive.
In every NHL game, the little guys were so fast and had wicked shots, and Kyle Wellwood could just zip around and get 50 goals every franchise mode.
So I was under the impression that Kyle Wellwood was the greatest player ever.
His POT was high.
The potential was high.
Yes.
I would say the same thing
Video games are to blame
Marek Zvatos
You guys know NHL 2005
That guy was a bullet
And may he rest in peace
But he was a spectacular skater
He was incredible
And really good rookie year
I'm going to say
I bought into
Frat Sanity hard
I thought Matt Fratton
Was going to be unreal
let's go uh a lot of prospects from that era josh levo jerry domigo
holy shit jerry domigo someone says yeah those guys those guys i like that great question man
great question all right uh let's go to this area of the room who's got uh uh i'll go you know what
we're gonna go to the very back who's got what's the yellow and black jersey there that's not
oh the savannah bananas oh nice oh very cool
oh god so are we gonna bring back the dawn cherry sandwich challenge which
that's such a deep cut yeah can we can you explain that so the dawn cherry sandwich
oh you bet oh do you do you still remember it no you go so it was so essentially the athletic
did this profile piece on dawn cherry before you know and and uh they asked him before milk and
honey before milk yeah is that what people didn't like is that one i don't know if it was that so
they i don't know how they did this but they they asked him i think what life was like on the road
and then like what he ate and he really liked this sandwich that was a it's like a tuna sandwich
except it's salmon i think you got it there uh and it and he how do you have this on your phone
And it was soaked in mayonnaise to room temperature, right?
Yeah.
Oh.
Okay, so he kept it in the fridge for a couple of days
until the bread and the salmon and the mayo got together
and made a pudding.
I know.
Can we get that on the menu?
Is it too late to get that on the menu?
I'm sure that's a big seller here at the Corson Clubhouse.
Yeah?
Eat, fry it, put it next to the frog's legs, let's go?
That's good
I would say that when that came out
Obviously this is pre-dawn getting fired
So that's probably 6-7 years ago
Our stomachs were much stronger then than they are now
We're Sensi boys
I don't know if we could eat it now and not die
You gotta explain the bet
I don't remember the bet
So we had the bet for Easter Seals
The person who didn't score a goal
The last person to score a goal in the Easter Seals tournament
Would have to eat the sandwich
Right
And between us
We have one empty net goal
Still not done yet
Yeah, no, we're not bringing that back
Next question
Alright, Boston Bruins fans at the back
I think he likes the booze
How many more years of losing to Boston in the first round?
And then he got booed out
He didn't even get to finish
I didn't even hear the rest of it
Oh, there was more?
Sorry.
What was the second half of the question?
No.
They're not letting him say it.
All right.
Here's what I'm going to say.
No more years.
No more.
I'm done.
No more years.
No more years.
No more years.
No more years.
No more years.
No more years.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let's go.
Any more?
Any more?
Any more?
Jesse, you pick one.
We got a lot.
Right here, backwards hat.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You.
Oh, what do we give Nye?
Oh, yeah, his contract's up.
That's a good question.
Go to therapy.
You're such a Leafs fan.
He has a full year to play.
We've barely seen the kid.
The answer's too much.
No, give us a number.
Give us a number.
I think Jake Sanderson deal.
$7 million to $8 million.
Okay.
If he has a good year.
Okay.
What?
Eight years.
$7 million to $8 million.
How is that your comp?
How is Jake Sanderson a comp for Matt?
Because Jake Sanderson had played like 50 freaking games.
But how is Jake Sanderson a comp for Matt?
Because that's what they're all doing.
They're all doing that.
He was a highly ranked defenseman.
What do you have him at?
What do you have him at?
Not a highly ranked defenseman.
Not 7 million bucks.
What are you talking about?
You watch.
Like, okay, look at what Dylan Genther just got.
7 million.
Dylan Genther got 7 million.
Yeah, I think he has accomplished more at this stage than Matthew Knight.
Now, here's the thing.
here's here's an uncomfortable truth if Tavares comes back and it's at a very nice deal yeah
and Marner comes back at the exact same dollar amount how do they surround the rest of these
guys that's not the question no wait how do they surround the rest of these guys and sign
nice do a contract like that they can't so it's gonna be gotta sign them do some
shitty little bridge deal and then pay
for it later.
You can't
even start to answer the
Matthew Nye's question, which is a very
valid question, until you figure out
those two. The two guys
making double digits who don't have a contract for
next year. I'll stick by it. If it's eight years, it's going to be
expensive. The Leafs have a history of doing
one thing, and that's giving guys not enough
term and too much money. Oh, you're an RFA?
Take it all. I tend
to believe that Matthew Nye's will sign a short
term deal that's like, eh,
market value-ish, and then we'll get killed
on the next one. Something like the Joseph Wohl
contract, three times, what was it, 3.6?
A little more than that.
Three times four?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. A little more.
Yeah. Alright, last question.
If he earns the Genther contract,
I'll be thrilled. Okay, I'm gonna go
to Liam at the back there
with the jersey. Liam, by the way,
fixed our sound equipment today, so thank you, Liam.
Liam!
What's the question, dude?
Should we sign Swayman?
Should the Leafs offer Sheet Jeremy Swayman?
I mean, I don't think it would happen.
It would be hilarious, though.
I don't even think we have the picks.
Do we have the picks?
So here's the thing.
Signing Broberg and Holloway, it's like, ha-ha, it costs us nothing,
and it's funny because you can't afford it, lol.
Swayman's like four first round picks.
So, no.
But I will say this.
If you listen to the Chris Johnston show,
which I did the other day,
they've already used the D word,
which is December,
which is the cutoff for when a contract needs to be signed
for Swayman to be eligible to play this season.
And I went, is that where things are?
Have things gotten that bad?
Hope Corposalo's great.
And the other guy, Busey?
Bussey?
Busey.
Bussey.
Bussey.
I like Bussey.
Let's go with Bussey.
Boston's got to bring out the Bussey.
He's bussing.
So, like, that is the most volatile situation in the Atlantic, I think,
because even if they bring him back, like, let's say they get something done
before game one, he hasn't had camp at all.
so i mean if he if he's training if everything's going perfectly he should be able to come back
and be like a league average goalie but like this guy is supposed to be the goalie of the future
he's supposed to be one of the top five starters in the nhl for what he's asking for and it's in
a gross place right now if he signs now it's comparable to the marner thing from 2019 where
he missed something but he didn't miss very much uh but it doesn't look like it's close right now
Okay
Which is great
There you go
Hey are we doing
I just want to say
Are we doing the Leafs jersey
As a part of the 50-50
No that's 50-50
This is the 50-50 jersey
So this is the jersey
You will win
When you sign up
For the 50-50
It is not
It's Austin Matthews
And look at that
Matthews with the A
So it's classic now
Yeah
Adam do you want to
We have books
What's that
We have Steve books
Oh we have Steve books
Okay you know what
Let's do some Steve books
Alright
So Jess you got any more
Trivia here
Yeah I'll pull out
I'll pull out a trivia Steve name Steve do you have a give a team you want me to select
avalanche yeah good pick good pick all right I got we got three that's all we're gonna do
are they pre-signed oh yes really pre-signed what a guy I'm so smart what number did Jonathan
and Druin were for the Avs last season?
I think it was them.
Incorrect?
It wasn't 92?
Right here?
What did you say?
That's correct.
Well done.
It was 27.
I had to double check.
You were telling me 29.
No, no.
He said 92, and I went, I think it might have been 92.
No, no.
It's 27.
All right.
How many more?
Two more.
All right.
Drake Batherson
last season
the same Pats
Drake Batherson
was 19
well done
one more
one more
okay okay
let's do
this team is ruining
all of our lives
here it is
not the Boston guy
no
it's making his life
I want to do something
stupid hard
like someone who played
three games for the Sharks
Oh, okay.
We can do something stupid hard.
Philip Zedina.
Frank Nazar on the Blackhawks last season.
No.
Right here.
Incorrect.
Behind.
Yep.
Incorrect.
In front?
No.
Way in the back.
Incorrect.
Right here.
Yep.
Incorrect.
Down here.
Nope.
In the back.
Incorrect.
Down here.
Incorrect.
up here.
No?
91.
Was that a shot in the dark?
That was enough time to look it up, people.
You didn't know?
Shot in the dark.
Unreal.
He had a 1 through 98 chance of getting it.
91.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to wrap up the show.
But I just want to say,
first off...
We got booed for that.
We got booed for that?
Oh. Fair.
All right, here's Freebird.
Kick it, boys.
All right, Steve.
Leafs de-pairings on opening night.
No, my God.
Why not?
Why not?
Come on!
Come on!
Do it, Steve.
Do it.
Do it, Steve.
Give it to him.
Oh, he had to do it to him.
Mermis.
Dango.
Dango.
Dango.
Dango.
Dango.
Dango.
All right, Nicholas Madden.
Philip Power, or Cedric Paré.
Mermis, Myers, top pair, top power play, net front.
Riley Tanev.
Yeah.
It's tough after that, right?
I'll go McCabe on the left of OEL on the right.
Oh.
Benoit Lilligren.
No!
Oh, you got booed.
Booed for Lilligren.
It's a big hock and pop crowd.
Oh, we got a Lilligren.
Oh, he's got the, that's the.
He's got the indigenous Lilligren jersey.
You were here last year.
Yeah.
And I remember, I remember that because everyone's like, okay, why is that a big deal?
But last year, that game had just happened.
And I was like, that jersey's $2,000.
Yeah, well, I shouldn't have said that.
Someone has to tell him to his car later.
It's like he caught the Ohtani ball.
Yeah, yeah.
He's also wearing an Rolex in case anybody's interested.
Now do the forward group.
Forward group, Steve.
Go.
Forward group.
Forward group.
Forward group.
Forward group.
Forward group.
Forward group.
Okay.
Knies, Matthews, Marner.
That's $8 million Knies to you.
He's going to have a big year, ladies and gentlemen.
He's going to be a big year.
Oh, man.
This team...
Just pick!
Domi.
Domi.
It makes great recording, by the way, when you're like...
No, no.
Okay, okay, shut up.
Domi, Nylander, Robertson.
Oh, I like that.
How many D-Zone starts did they get?
Wow.
None.
Zero D-Zone.
Not one.
does Alan text
the GM that
Pacioretty isn't in the top six
I think Alan would have something to say about that
I don't know if he'd text the GM
but I think he'd be like
McMahon, Tavares
screw it, Grabenkin
wow
I'm gonna go
I might go Holmberg, Kampf, Jarnkrog
fourth line
and where does that leave lorenz where does that leave patches where does that leave uh
reeves reeves yeah okay so one of the things they raved about with grabenkin is that uh uh one of
the things i can't remember if it was berube or someone else they're like the intensity didn't
stop all throughout the all throughout the drills he just kept going his motor's unreal and the
sound bite with ryan reeves was he was tired right so not great i'm not saying he's not going to make
the team uh opening night he might be in the lineup just because on opening night it's kind
of nice when your tough guy beats the shit out of someone right but i think going forward that
might be the line wow do do we remember what happened last season when ryan reeves was
scratched for a couple weeks and we started to hear from like his agent that he was unhappy
Oh, we heard from Ryan.
And Ryan himself thought he was unhappy.
He spoke to Luke Fox about it directly.
He's like, I'm healthy.
I don't know why I'm not playing.
And he wanted to play.
Do we get that again?
Yeah, but then he went back in the lineup, and he's like, oh, skating.
And, like, was effective.
Yeah.
You didn't hate every time he was on the ice.
At least I didn't.
I like Ryan Reeves, man.
I like him, too.
I understand the role.
I think he should have a place in your lineup.
Yeah, I think Pacioretty should, too.
I think Grebenkin will get a few games.
the season's long there's 82 games that's so many games so guys are gonna rotate in like
I don't think Craig Berube is gonna be like hey I just got here and be like seven games preseason
I've seen enough this is the group I'm going with yeah and he just charges into the distance
I think uh there's still gonna be tryouts as the season goes I like that I like that
Ladies and gentlemen, I just want to say a quick thing to Anthony and his wife, Nicole, I'm making sure, and their little daughter, Penelope, who was super tired last year when we were here.
She was two months old.
She's now 14 months.
