With your host, Steve Dangle, Adam Wilde, and Jesse Blake.
Four years in a row here at Coors and Clubhouse.
And I do have some announcements off the top, but I just want to say, so some of you have been to a live podcast before, some of you have not.
We like noise.
This is not a poetry recital.
This is a loud, obnoxious group of hooligans, right?
All right, good.
Have lots of beer.
Be safe.
Have lots of beer.
Have lots of food.
Enjoy yourselves.
And what I wanted to say was I took a little trip
on my way down here because the QEW,
as you guys all know, terrible traffic
on the QEW, went through Grimsby
for the first time.
Had never driven through Grimsby.
We have a Grimsby.
Got Grimsby people? Okay.
All right, anybody here from Beamsville?
No.
Well, there's about 30 people that live there, but okay.
Yeah.
I thought they'd be here.
And they were all standing at the end of their driveway
watching toddlers run around and sipping a beer
and watching cars go by,
like it was the Santa Claus parade.
Look at the traffic.
It's crazy.
The last place I went through that I thought,
I was like, wow, I didn't even know this exists,
was Balls Falls.
Hell yeah, Balls Falls.
And I went to the Balls Falls Conservation Area.
And I was like, this is well manicured.
All right.
Lots of bush.
You ever, you know, lots of.
So wouldn't that make it not well manicured?
Hey, listen, let me do my bit.
I have the beholder, Jesse.
beholder. So anyway, thank you guys for having us.
Four years in a row here, and we are
as of 20 minutes
ago, 72 hours
away from puck drop for your Toronto
Maple Leafs.
Which is pretty sweet.
It's pretty sweet. And I got
we got some Gavin Chants going
already. And I got some questions for you
guys, but first I want to do a couple of announcements. First off,
Tonight show is brought to you by Triple Bogie.
Give them a round of applause.
Hooray. You could see
the cans here. They're Fairway Fizz Zero Sugar Vodka
cocktails. Try all three flavors tonight. Nice cans. Try them all at the same time.
Thank you for, you know, obviously you guys got, you already put
your orders in for the food. We appreciate that. And bear with everybody
for the food times this evening because the kitchen is overloaded because you all are here.
All right? Obviously ODR Hockey Heroes at the
back, while it's now, it's now something different. There's a video game that you guys need to try
at the back. You might have been a part of the kickstool.
starter that started that. You remember a couple years ago we had that? Yeah. So that guy went and
sold that to Shorzi, which is pretty amazing. So round of applause for Chris Atala. And you can
meet him at the back. This game's a blast. It's like the same, it's like NHL hits, right? It's like
what you grew up on. Now, we have the longest drive competition. And I'm not going to tell you
what Jesse drove, but it was pretty good. I feel like they had, right away? I thought we were
to say it until the end.
Oh, okay.
They don't know what they're beating then.
Okay, we'll tell them.
If you want to keep it a secret, we can.
I did.
I did want to keep them.
Okay.
It's a secret.
It's a secret, everybody.
And obviously, by the way, smoking is in designated areas outside the front windows
because I know some of you, you know, you need to smoke, right?
Especially after this.
So.
Yeah, after that drive.
Exactly.
Now, listen, I want to ask you guys this.
Does anybody care that on the eve of the season, the Leafs' Wednesday,
the Leafs went to Arizona.
Does anybody care?
Some yeses, some noes.
A little bit of consternation in the media is Jesse, Steve.
I wanted to know what your thoughts were.
It is odd.
I think we're all right to point out that it's odd.
That they usually go to Muscoca,
which you could drive to in like two hours,
and instead, like, this would be a significant road trip
if they had a game to play.
You know what I mean?
They did once go to Stockholm for Matt Sondine.
But that was when training camp was like nine games long.
Pretty fair. Yeah.
Yeah, that was more of an NHL event because they played games over there too.
You could go through a full pregnancy through training camp in the 2000s.
That's true.
Yeah. It was ridiculous.
I don't care and I'm not going to care unless they come out of the gate like 0 and 8.
I don't need another 07 and fun.
Right.
That's the Phil Kessel year, by the way.
It's the 20th year of Alavar.
Like we're playing all the hits and everything.
thing. I don't need a redo of that one. Jesse, what was the reaction when you found out,
because obviously you're part of the media pit and everything did, what were your thoughts?
And what did generally, what did the media think?
Steve, what do people think of the Toronto media? They're like, nice people.
I couldn't get worked up about it. These athletes ride on the nicest planes in the world.
I don't think one three-hour flight to Arizona is going to affect their entire season for
or the first couple weeks of the season.
I think they'll be fine.
And what I thought was really cool was that Matt Sundy,
in one of the first press conferences before the season when he was talking,
he said,
if they can play together as a team and support each other
and bond with each other off the ice,
that's going to be one of the most important things for winning.
And I think him and Chica really want this to happen
for the sake of them all getting to know each other
and playing more for each other.
They think this will be the right way to do it.
and they asked the locker room where they should go for this trip.
And they all thought Arizona would be really cool.
I liked Jake McCabe's thought, though.
Jake McCabe did have a thought.
Did you hear this?
Yes.
Was it very grumpy?
They wanted, Jake McCabe is from Wisconsin.
Yes.
And he threw out going to Wisconsin.
He wanted to take him fishing.
And they didn't, and nobody else voted for Wisconsin.
Super weird that they didn't go to that.
But the guys were like, Austin wants to bring you to his home.
He wants to cook you dinner in his home where he's,
grew up and Nyes is obviously from there
and Chica has his ties to there
and I think everybody there thinks it's a really
cool trip and I don't know how I would sit
here and be like, no, they're all wrong for
wanting to do this. I'm not going to get worked up about that.
The suggestion was made by a couple of people
that, you know, obviously
and people didn't have to like this
report, but it was true.
There was questions about whether Austin
Matthews would be back. That is
true. Now, he's happy. Teams
turned over. Things look good.
Jesse, there were some people that
suggested that perhaps this is the Leafs trying to olive branch to Austin.
Austin.
Where would you like to go?
What do you want to do?
We're not going to let you hire our coach like Connor McDavid.
But, but, well, I mean, oh, what do you mean, oh, he's hired the last two guys?
That very publicly happened.
Yeah, and he's like admits to it.
That's real.
Oh, don't take a shot at the guy that did that.
What do you think?
Is this an actual authentic team thing or is this the Leaf's going, please stay?
I think you should cater to your superstar captain.
Like, I feel like that's what you should be doing
if you're the Toronto Maple Leafs.
This whole thing is built around Austin sticking around
after his contract expires.
Let's make him happy to make sure he sticks around.
All due respect, but imagine this segment
if we were all like Wisconsin.
Like, oh, what if they listen to Jake McCabe?
Yeah, yeah.
We'd be very confused.
Well, it would be weird because at least you can do
all the things in Wisconsin,
you can do in Muscoqa, too.
That too.
Right?
So it's like, well, now I get getting away from Muscoca because there will be fans outside, right?
There'll be probably people in this room that would drive up there and be like, can I get an autograph?
Yeah, you know you would.
Right?
Come on.
And so they probably were like, if we go to Arizona, we're not going to get bothered.
And it's not people are like, oh, it's to get away from the media.
I'm like, I actually think it's just to get away, period, end of story, and have a minute.
Now, they do lose some practice days in there, guys.
Let's clutch our pearls for a second
Do you think they forgot how to play?
I don't know
Like listen
At the end of the day
Like I have enough faith in them
That this isn't going to be a big deal
Again though
Like it's one of those things
I mean you have faith
But you had them finishing seventh
Yeah
In our season previous
You're not the first person
To let me know about that tonight
Did you see that
Wait which sabers are hurt
All of them
So that prediction is going
great
but
like a few years ago
I think it was
it was Matthews
Marner and it might have been
Marlowe
they were on some trip in California
and they went on like a roller coaster
and who cares
what they do on their off day but they had
also lost like five straight
and so everyone's like can you read the room
and there was get off the roller coaster
well
how dare you
you must have this many wins to ride
if you're
even two and three.
That was good.
Don't walk over that one.
That was good.
That was good.
Broken clock.
Broken clock.
But if you're two, two,
and one or something,
people aren't going to really pay attention.
But you lose five straight or whatever.
There was a fishing trip once too
where they were on a lead,
like early on our podcast.
It was like John Michael Liles
and some of these guys went on a fishing trip
and it was like, oh.
It happens every year.
Geoffrey Lupel's catching fish
and they're on a losing street.
Right.
You know, like I hate that.
Yeah.
Like, well, hey, hey.
Oh, hey.
Hopefully that didn't make the podcast audio.
Allegedly.
Hi, Mike.
Hockey players don't do that.
We don't need to say that.
We can know it and not say it.
Anyway, sorry.
Anyway, if they win, no one's going to care.
Okay, all right.
And if they lose, does it become a thing?
Sure.
It's already a thing.
They haven't lost the game yet.
Yeah, yeah.
That's fair.
All right.
Now, next thing I want to ask you is how much is Kyle Dubus sweating today with so many former leaves on waivers?
Let me run you through the names.
Let me run you through the names.
Let's start at the top Alex Steves.
Oh.
Who actually played a pretty good role in Boston last?
He sure did.
I'm surprised.
Alex Neelander was a leaf but was a penguin under Dubus.
there's a connection you see
They just signed him like 24 hours ago
They did
So they signed him and then sent him down
Just so he can clear waivers
I think that's the agreement, right?
Yeah, that makes sense
Yeah
Justin Hall
Justin Hall
On waivers
Yeah
Oh yeah I'd love
Hollerback
We need hauler back
No longer a youngin
Who who
No terrible
Last one
Pierre Engval
Seabiscuit
Take off your shirt, Pierre.
Do it again, Pierre.
Adam,
you know I love audience participation.
Sure, go ahead.
What is it?
Guys, just do it for me.
Kyle Dubus.
Loves them.
I don't think he claims any of them.
No, I don't think so either.
I don't think so either.
I think the Islanders are going to have that Engball contract.
I'm learning my lesson from having an opinion
on Ryan Twerberg.
Which I shouldn't have.
He did not get claimed on waivers.
For anybody was listening, Steve was really worried
that 24-year-old Ryan Twerberg would get claimed on...
I know, thank God.
Thank God, exactly.
I could finally sleep that.
By the way, Marilynne did get...
Couldn't believe it.
Shocking.
Yeah.
Shocking result.
I think the funniest part about the Marylandin thing
was I was reading...
I think it was Ian McIntyre for Sportsnet,
who's the Vancouver Canucks reporter over there,
and he said that they'd had
their eyes on Maryland in all summer.
And I was like, well, what stopped you?
Like, I don't, I,
Ottawa was like, no, we've really been,
we've been really thirsting after leaving Maryland.
Okay.
I don't think that's a thing.
I think you're selling that to the fan base.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Okay, couple of.
And then they immediately trade for Jonas Johansson,
Ottawa does to make up for losing marijuana in.
And then now they have like four of the,
I think bottom 15 worst goals saved above expect.
goalies from last season.
Let's go.
I'm feeling real good about my auto
prediction.
I told you,
goaltending's an issue over there.
Now, Justin Barron,
on waivers today,
surprising.
Even more surprising,
non-leaf,
non-anything,
Miles Wood of the Columbus Blue Jackets,
who's, yeah, right?
I know.
Two and a half million dollar player,
Fantilli has put them
up against the cap,
and I think it's a numbers game.
But Miles Wood,
certifiably insane.
Kind of a valuable piece
to certain teams, right?
Yeah.
I would love to look at it that way, Adam.
Instead, let me tell you about a TikTok I saw the other day.
Okay.
There was a mom who brought their toddler to an arcade
and didn't have to spend any money
because the toddler just sits on all the games
and he doesn't know what's going on.
He's having a great time.
So that's how Don Weddell runs the blue jackets.
He didn't know what's going on.
Yeah, wave them. I don't know.
Maybe it'll work. I don't know.
I mean, I see the Blue Jackets fans in the comments.
They're like,
man.
Uncle.
Like, enough, man.
And I'm like, but they keep doing stuff that doesn't matter.
Yeah.
It's enough that, like do a Marchenko trade or something.
I think that's going to heat up soon.
It has to be because he's trying.
He's just button mashing.
Yeah, sure.
Wave Miles Wood.
That'll save the season.
I don't know, man.
I don't know.
I don't know. I feel like we're putting too much oxygen into a team that barely cares about itself.
Well, I think those are the teams we like to talk about, right?
I mean, that was a problem in Toronto for a long, long time.
Sure was.
We had the teacher's pension plan owning the team.
And from people that I've talked to back in that era, the pension plan didn't care if they made a way else.
Please care about this.
Yeah.
Watch my YouTube channel.
Call up Simone Gamash.
I'm very upset about this.
Wow, you really are playing all the hits.
Oh, yeah.
Do Blue Jackets fans exist?
Do Blue Jackets?
Yes.
Yes, they do.
Very much exist.
Blue Jackets fans 100% exist, which is, like, I wouldn't go to bat for them if they didn't.
You know what I mean?
Oh, okay, so everyone's asking why?
I think that's a fair question, but that's a question for the Blue Jackets, right?
I think they're hockey fans and the local team happens to be the Blue Jackets.
What are they, yeah, they haven't been given much.
Except for that one series against Tampa where they came back and that was crazy.
Sure.
That's the only thing that they have.
And we were talking about this on the show.
Was that Blind Squirrel Finds Nutt?
Yeah.
Yeah. I mean, there's no good old days if you're a Blue Jackets fan. None. And so I think when a team does silly things all the time, like the Canucks were doing, like a couple of seasons ago, the Calgary Flames were like, we're going to trade them. No, we're not. Yes, we are. We kind of start to glob on to that going like, like, what is happening here? And you look at a team like the New Jersey Devils, they've got seemingly competent management and all of a sudden they're not really a topic anymore, right? They might be. If they start losing, they might be. Wait until they start playing games.
though. They're always teetering between we're going to be really good and a catastrophe.
I couldn't imagine them finishing 15th.
No.
I don't think it's something they're capable of.
Lottery or first in the division.
100%.
Jesse, question for you.
And this is a Atlantic Division question.
Oh, thank goodness.
No more blue jacket stock.
No more blue jacket stock.
Yeah, you can tell him, Jesse was so fired up about that.
I had to have a Miles Wood take in front of a paying audience.
I tried.
I'm saving some good stuff for later.
Don't worry.
This is not, don't worry.
We're working up to me.
Give me the interesting teams.
All right.
So Florida, pretty good on forward.
Right?
Yes.
Pretty good on defense.
Yeah.
Tell me about Jake Markstrom season, Jesse.
What do you think?
What are we in this upcoming year?
Why don't we believe that with that group in front of him,
the great forward group and the great defense,
that he can have an adequate season?
Because that's all he needs to be.
So he's right.
But if you were just going to throw anyone back there, you could have just done that.
Instead of getting $6 million of Jake Markstrom, who hasn't been good in several years.
What I'm surprised about is that you wouldn't just pay the extra million dollars to keep Bob.
That's what I'm curious too.
They're paying Markstrom just below that.
It's less years.
But why not just keep Bob around for that amount?
The salary cap's going through the roof.
I think they're cup contenders probably now.
We'd all be talking about them like that if they still had Bob.
Yeah.
It's strange because I never got any indication like he wanted to leave desperately and need to go to Toronto.
They just were willing to offer the money in the years.
But I don't know why Bill Zito couldn't give him three years.
The word was I remember in the spring that apparently Bob was like, well, why should I take a pay cut?
Yeah.
He was making 10.
He's like, I want to make 10.
I want to continue to make 10.
I wonder if Zito knew where the cap was going.
that if he would be willing to pay it now.
Like if that was an option, if you could go back in time of pay.
Because I don't know if leading into the end of June and July 1st,
if we all knew it would be at 128 in like three years.
No, how do you think Demetov feels signing that deal, or Lane Hudson or those guys?
He'd play for free, Adam.
No one's proving it.
Then give your paycheck up.
Yeah, Posternak.
I'd play for free.
Then do it.
So, Jesse, you're not, you, okay, as a Leaf fan, though, put your Leaf fan on.
Oh, yeah, it's always on.
Okay.
We're playing the Florida Panthers.
Are you not a little excited that Jake Markstrom's in net?
I think today.
Are we not a little excited that Jake Marks is in Nip from?
Come on.
Today, if I'm ranking things right now,
the Leafs have better goaltending than Florida.
I'll take the Leafs tandem every day of the week.
We're getting claps.
So that's a great starting point if you're the Leafs.
Okay.
Yeah.
Don't dump and chase.
Unless it's Markstrom and then make him play it.
You did the, you did a little audience play before.
I think we deserve a, of, if you're a goaltender.
He?
No, no, no, I'm setting Steve up to do it.
No, no, I can't do it.
Steve, go right ahead.
Stepping all over my bit again.
Guys.
You might be a red, I'm sorry.
A different bit.
Different bit, different bit.
Different bet.
Different show.
If the puck's in your feet and someone's charging at you and they score a goal,
uh-huh.
In your head, you're going to be thinking.
I should have listened to Steve when he said,
if you're a goaltender,
Tender goal.
That's right.
Thank you.
Yeah.
If you're a goaltender,
boo,
talk about Miles Wood again.
Get the people what they want.
I always try to at least have a little bit of news from the day
before we get into some of the other stuff.
It's funny,
whenever we're here,
it's right as training camp ends.
And nothing is really happening that much,
but I do want to have some stuff, right?
I do want to feel like you guys came in here and got more than here's some predictions and stuff like that, you know?
Yes.
So you got waiver wire.
Congratulations.
Now, I do want to do an over-under challenge.
And I've got a bunch of these things.
And I want everybody's, this is a participation the whole way, right?
And I got lots.
Okay?
So we're going to start with the Leafs.
And I know that there are people wearing Bruins jerseys here.
I know.
He's turning bright red.
he shouldn't. You have no need to be embarrassed, sir.
We got a shark's jersey here, which we...
We like the sharks. Let's go.
Cover it in teal.
We got a Nord's hat over there.
Panthers at the back.
Oh, where?
Oh.
Panthers at the back. Someone checked to see if he can read.
We got a Wings jersey over here, which is kind of big.
Wings?
I was going to say, and he brought his annoying brother, but no, that was good.
That was good.
That was good.
We got Wings, we got Montreal Canadiens.
Oh.
All right.
Anybody else?
Am I missed any of the other jerseys in?
Colorado.
Carolina.
Carolina.
Cup champ.
Sabers.
Sabers.
Sabers over here.
Great news for the sabers.
Ucapegolucanin got injured this afternoon.
Terrible.
Yeah.
Great.
And Alex Lyon is injured as well.
Mammoth.
Mammoth, Jersey.
Oh, we got a mammoth.
Wow.
Now, do you own a mammoth jersey or are you a mammoth fan?
Oh, he's wearing it.
He's not renting it.
I know he's wearing it.
I'm aware that it's on him.
But I'm like, do you just own it to own it because it's cool?
He clearly owes it out.
Are you like, no, I've always been a mammoth fan.
Both.
You just, you're an Arizona fan.
You were a zona fan.
Were you the guy that walked in here with the Connor Timmons, Arizona Coyote's jersey?
No, we had that.
We had somebody that last year do that.
And I was like, oh my God, that is a deep.
Deep cut.
Yeah.
There were Arizona fans.
Okay.
Over under.
Okay.
I'm going to ask you first in the audience and then I'm going to ask Jesse and Steve.
Real easy one to kick us off.
Over under.
Gavin McKenna over under 55 points this year.
Oh, people are pumped.
Jesse and Steve ruined their night.
Seventh place leaves, right Steve?
Over.
Over.
Hold on, hold on.
Do you believe that though?
Wow.
Does he believe that, Jesse?
said there'd be no additional questions.
No, they didn't.
They is me. He's going to get 56.
56 points.
I like that.
Steve said no follow-ups.
Yeah, no follow-ups.
I'm just here so I don't get fined.
Jesse, I think a really
good season out of Gavin McKenna
is half a point a game.
That'd be 40, what is
the new? 42 points, because it's 84 games.
So I'd say...
Boo!
Boom!
I can't believe you.
42 is really good for a rookie.
I'm not good enough.
I'm going to say under and he still has a really good season.
All right.
Those are Machelli numbers.
You're right.
At 18, Machelli numbers are pretty good.
All right.
Perhaps the most important question of the leaf season, honestly.
Austin Matthews.
Over under.
60 goals.
Everyone's like, Adam, you suck.
60?
Under.
He did that twice.
Under.
This is supposed to be his peak.
Supposed to be his prime.
Supposed to get all the offensive zone starts.
He scores 59.
I'll kiss him on the mouth.
Mustache.
Okay, then hold that.
What's your number then for Austin?
What do you actually think he's going to get?
I also wanted to test how hopeful this room was,
and everybody's like, he's not getting 60.
What are you crazy?
Well, you know, he looks healthy.
He looks healthy.
He looks great.
He's got to be motivated.
And also like, okay, I know what you've done,
but once his contract is up,
how many years in the rearview mirror
are those seasons going to be?
Brother, you score like the Austin Matthews we know and love,
you're gonna get 20.
At least.
20 mil.
Oh, yeah, Schmill.
Yeah, no, I don't think people knew that.
Sorry.
Yeah, you needed to specify you meant not 20 goals.
And everybody's like, what?
Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
He's going to match Jack Roslovick.
Watch out.
American dollars.
I would like at least 50.
Okay.
Which, that's what he does.
That's what he does.
Yes.
Yeah.
Fanduel has it a 42 and a half.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
He should be so mad that is over under his 42 and a half.
A few years ago, we'd all delete the app.
Like, we'd be like, what are you talking about?
Oh, we just slam the over and make a ton of money.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Oh, yeah.
Maybe we wouldn't delete it.
We'd be like, oh, these guys are idiots.
Oh, wait a second.
You're stupid.
Jesse, what are your thoughts?
What should be the number?
You're the author of a famous book called Hockey Ranssen Raves.
Correct?
Yeah.
Good book.
Best seller.
Best seller.
How many guys have ever scored 60 goals?
It's not a long list, right?
So when Ken Reed wrote his book, it was 20.
Ever.
Ever.
And then I think pasta joined the group, Austin.
Had Stammer done it yet?
Connor.
Stamco's had already done it.
So I think it's 23.
It's very few people.
So, yeah, I probably, I can't go too close to 60s.
It's a little unrealistic of a prediction.
Sure.
Asking for history.
How many single seasons does only have?
So I'd say 54.
That's great.
54 for Boston.
Somebody booed that.
I don't know why, but.
54 is too low?
Somebody's good.
Somebody's like, booed.
I expect 70.
He can win the rocket with that.
Yeah.
Again.
And it's worth noting scoring down a little bit in the league, too.
A little bit.
Is it?
Yeah, a little bit.
But what's weird is it seems to be spreading out.
Okay.
Producer Drew said 55.
He's flashing 555.
5.5?
Okay.
Do you want a boo or a round of applause for producer Drew?
Yeah.
Round of applause.
Yeah.
Recent addition to the CJ show and doing a great job too.
Look at that.
All right.
He's not doing his job properly.
Too many people like him.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Here's another one.
This is not an over and under, but it's a date.
Okay.
Riley Radish Pairs.
Are they still playing together by January 1st?
What do we think?
They say no.
All right.
Jesse and Steve.
What's the other option?
McCabe Raddish?
I think it's got to be McCabe Radish.
Yeah.
I like McCabe Radish.
I don't mind that.
But there's, so here's the funny thing, and this is the context.
Jim Hiller's like, well, we need a shutdown pair.
Do you need a shutdown pair all game?
Or do you just need it at certain instances?
Because we know McCabe and Tanna have played well together,
and I did really like Riley Radish against Ottawa but that was an
HL team mostly you're not doing the proper Toronto thing give it to me oh you
have not made it about you oh well I what does that mean has the Connor
Hellabuck heart season and I need Riley and Radish to be unreal I think that would
be fantastic rub it in my face well because
Like you're a Leaf fan.
Yeah.
You want them to win.
Yeah.
But you know you won't be able to properly enjoy it.
If Riley.
Until they listen to me.
They're going to, they're one and two for the Norris.
That'd be incredible.
No, I think they stay together for a substantial amount of time.
Okay.
I think it ends before January.
Yeah?
Yeah.
I mean, what pairing stays together for that?
Exactly.
Like, I would say, yeah, they'll break up by then.
And then get back together.
The better way to put it is, will they have played the most ice time together of each of the pairing?
by January 1st and will that remain after.
I think we're going to get technical about it.
Yeah, yeah.
That'll stay McCabe Tanev because Tenev's playing 84 games.
Well, that's funnily enough, my next question.
Over under, Chris Tanev, 60 games.
Over.
Over.
Smashing.
Yeah, over?
Yeah.
You think right on 60, Mike?
Yeah.
If it's under, the Leafs aren't good.
Like, the team goes where TANF goes, unfortunately.
The DECOR, I should say, goes.
And if he's out, then there are more problems.
Okay.
So, yeah.
He needs to stay healthy.
Steve, you say over.
Because you're hopeful.
Easy.
Okay.
All right.
Last one of the Leafs over under, and then I'm going to have more.
Don't worry.
Anthony Stollers.
Ooh.
Damn.
Who's that?
Whoa.
Whoa.
We got a spicy group here tonight.
Anthony Stoller is over under.
I haven't even said it.
It's definitely under.
30 games.
Because I think this affects everybody.
Brobrovsky's got to be.
Brobrovsky, it's like how much are we going to play him
because you want to play him in the playoffs?
He's 38 in a few days, if not already.
And then Akhtiama, although looked really good in the, you know,
preseason, do you want him playing 10 plus games yet?
So is Anthony Stoller's good to go for 30 or more?
The season, he was unreal.
Florida that got him the contract with the Leafs
or the original contract with the Leafs.
If I'm not mistaken, he played fewer than 30 games.
27. So I'm going to say
under. Under. Jesse Blake.
30, you said?
30. Under. Okay. I think we're
also overestimating how much this has
anything to do with Stollers.
Bob eats games and I'm going to scream it from the
rooftop until people understand. This
guy plays a ton
of games. Okay.
All right. Non-leave questions.
Can I throw on a leaf question? Please.
to us. Steve, over under
0.5. Leaf
playoff wins this year.
Oh.
Well, you can't go back on your prediction now,
can you?
Sure, I can. Stayed in front of the people, Steve.
You should have set the over under at 15.5.
No, I'm going to go...
Listen.
You know what, Jesse? Really good question.
Really good.
You don't need to go...
If the Leafs make the playoffs, you don't need to go,
ha!
Because I'm going to go, ha, isn't this great?
Hooray.
Also, revenue.
Yeah, it's good for business.
Hooray, don't have to stream Habs playoff games.
Neat.
Still probably will, though.
No, no.
You're a super fan.
Leafs aren't going to make it.
I'm just going to sit there.
I'm just going to sit there for a month and stew and do nothing.
Well, Adam and Jesse go, can you help us run the business?
And I go, no.
I think they win one.
Okay.
I don't believe you.
Did you set the overrunner at 0.5?
Did you say?
Yeah.
Okay, so now you think the least make the plan.
Why did you ask me a question if you were just going to yell at me about the answer?
I think that's what I'm here to do.
I think that's true.
Why are you asking that?
Of course that's what he did.
All right, any more?
No, I'm good.
Okay, okay.
Non-leaf questions, McDavid.
Leaf.
You said non-leaf questions, Adam.
He's a non-leaf right now.
Okay.
Connor McDavid has
said that he and Leon Drysettl and Zach Hyman sat down with Mike Babcock this summer.
And they wanted to be held accountable. I know. I know. We got wings fans and leaf fans in here.
Like, yeah, I know. Thank you. Even Blue Jackets fans, if you're in any of you're here.
And so what that means, though, is playing more playoff style hockey, quote, unquote,
maybe being a little bit more defensively responsible. McDavid over under 130 points.
If he's healthy. He's healthy. And by the way, hold him.
Hold on your answers.
Guys, over under 130 points.
Over?
And you're saying under.
Okay, we're kind of split in the room.
Yeah, got a lot of this, a lot of this.
It's like the Roman amphitheater.
Death.
So?
I'm going to say over.
You're going to say over.
I'm going to say over.
Like, Babcock has had some stars thrive under him.
Zatterberg, Datsuk, Matt, Sundin, excuse me.
Martyr, Matthews, not Sundeen.
Yeah, like Matthew scored 40 as a rookie.
Like, that's nuts.
Yeah.
Right?
No, I think McDavid would be fine.
I think it's funny that every year,
no matter, like, who's in net, who's on D,
who's behind the bench,
everyone talks about the Oilers,
like it's this radical idea
that they came up with for the first time.
What if we had the Oilers,
but they play D?
And we all go, whoa.
That's nuts.
I bet they're going to win the cup now,
and then they almost did twice.
With bad goaltending.
That might have been the weirder part
is that they almost did it.
Right.
Yeah.
Like, I don't know. I look at them on paper. I see the same team.
Jesse, what are you? Over under.
What was his number last season?
138. And he won the Arras? I think so.
No, maybe. Cooch. Cooch did.
Coch did? Yeah.
McKinnon? Oh, is it McKinnett? Drew, you should know this.
Yeah.
Coutherov or McKinnon? Who won the R.Ross?
McDavid.
Oh, is McDavid.
We all have the Internet.
Kuturoff got the heart.
Oh, he got the heart.
I'm asking the heart.
the point total.
Yeah, yeah.
Who won the scoring race?
You just yelled out the wrong answer.
I'm pretty sure it was McDavid.
McDavid by eight points.
Yeah.
No.
So he had 138.
Okay, yeah, I think it's ridiculous to bet against McDavid.
Okay.
Let's go over.
All right.
And Art Ross again.
Well, speaking of Kuturov, Hart Trophy winner.
And I just saw a tweet actually that Pierre Lebrun put out.
And he said both sides are very zen about it right now when they're talking about
his extension because he's a free agent at the end of the year.
you know. Over under Kuturoff's next contract, $21 million a year. Kale McCar. Kale
Makar is close to 21. Kuturov just won the heart. I think it's over. I'm going to say over as
well. Yeah. I think it's over. So some people are pointing out guys, non-tax state.
All right. No. But do you care at this point? I don't think he takes a discount. I think it's 22. I think it's 22.
22 yeah okay all right well okay do we have a consensus to the room over under over all right all right okay
what's that oh the leaf subsidizing that contract yes they are yes yes revenue sharing
revenue sharing and we shared our jerseys with them let's be honest the lightning jersey is the leaf jersey
and you can't convince me otherwise it's annoying um first team this year in the n hl hold your answers
to 10 wins
We got shark.
Colorado. We got a Colorado.
Utah.
Utah.
All right.
By the way, we do have a Caps fan
and a Penguins fan that just sat down here.
Representing the Metro Division tonight.
What do we think? Jesse and Steve.
The first answer is the Montreal Canadiens.
Pandering.
Pandering in front of a Toronto-friendly audience.
Give me the Minnesota Wild.
Oh.
You're just trying to ingratiate yourself
to our producer.
Yeah.
Hi, Hayden.
Always get my good side.
All right.
Thanks.
Okay, here's the next one.
Now, you hold your answers.
Yeah.
Got to hear the audience first.
What city will Quinn Hughes sign his next contract in?
We got a lot of Minnesota.
We got some jersey.
Somebody said Florida.
I don't know if that's possible.
Vancouver.
Okay.
Yeah.
I think that shit might have sailed.
All right.
Jesse and Steve, Quinn Hughes, next contract.
What city?
I think he stays in Minnesota.
Even if it's a short-term deal, I think it's sticking around in Minnesota.
It's too good, right?
Yeah.
He can win too much right now.
So, Winnesota continues.
I think he likes playing with Rock Faber.
I think that relationship there is an actual thing, and he's going to stick around for at least three years and stay in Minnesota.
I think he stays.
Wow.
Okay.
All right.
Follow-up question to that.
Quinn Hughes, over under Kail McCar's number?
Under?
I mean, it's
No one's currently over
Yeah, but it's the second
best defenseman and the best defenseman we're comparing here
Yeah
New Jersey State taxes is higher
It's higher. I think there's a little bit of ego there
I'm going to say over. You're going to say over
Because Caprizov went high too. He didn't give them a discount
Not high enough, not high enough, you're right.
Knowing Craig Leopold, they're just going to pay him whatever. It's over.
Yeah, why would I say under when the owner's
Like, yeah, so anyway, we're keeping them.
Yeah, whatever he wants, just pay the man.
Like, it's going over.
Like, who can relate to wanting to tell their boss to shut up?
All right, all right.
Okay, here we go.
Ready?
So there is one noticeable, noticeable coach, very noticeable that he's sitting on the sidelines,
and that's Bruce Cassidy.
Okay.
Well, Vegas is still in the playoffs.
Yeah, yeah, it's true.
Who is the first coach?
Hold your answers.
Who's the first coach fired this year?
Hiller?
Hiller?
Hiller.
Keith.
Interesting.
Sheldon Keith, what do we think?
I like you.
So the Keith one's interesting because Babcock,
by the way,
Babcock ain't getting fired this year, guys.
It's not happening.
Travis Green in Ottawa.
Interesting?
I could see that one.
The Sheldon Keith one makes a little bit of sense
because you got a new GM
and the last regime's coach, right?
Travis Green, if he doesn't get it done this year, I can see that for sure.
Jim Montgomery and St. Louis?
Interesting.
Stephen Jesse, your thoughts.
I think Adam forgot about the guys he doesn't like.
Who?
Lane Lambert.
I like Lane Lambert as an assistant.
You got me around on him.
He has an assistant.
He's great.
Yeah, but he's not an assistant, is he?
No, he's not. He's ahead.
So you think Lane Lambert?
In Seattle.
I could tell by the volume in the room, they're like, who's even on that team?
Yeah.
Who play the team?
there.
Who's on the Crackham?
Chandler Stevens?
Yeah.
Totally.
Yeah, Bobby McMahon.
Bobby McMahon and no one else.
We love Bobby McMahon.
We love Bobby McMahon.
Jesse, give a pick.
I'm trying to think of teams who
there's expectations on them.
Either like they're good teams and they'll fall
short or if there's like, hey, we should take a jump
and we're not.
A team like Utah is interesting because like I think they should
get back to the playoffs and they should take a little bit
of a jump this year.
So Mr. Tarigny is probably on my list.
if they don't play well.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And they did just sign them to that extension, so that'll be expensive.
And then you bring in Cassidy, like, that could be a re-boost to the lineup and then you get back to your playoffs.
And Cassidy could then be in the same division as Vegas.
Oh, that's fun.
What would they let them talk?
They might not let them go.
Yeah, there you go.
They might not let them go.
Okay, okay.
Scratch that one.
All right, all right.
Name the first, quote, unquote, major player.
Like, like major player with some name recognition.
Don't give me like Nick Patan of this year.
Bo Grude.
Yeah, to get traded.
And I'm talking about names like Larkin, Hellebuck, Marchenko.
There's other names.
Hang on to that.
What do you guys think?
What do we think?
Hellebuck?
Hellabuck.
Because it doesn't look like anything's close with Hellebuck right now.
I think it's a risky pick.
I think the Hellebuck trade happens eventually.
I think that's number one.
Yeah?
Yeah.
I think they all happen.
Like Larkin, Hellebuck, Marchenko.
I think all three happen.
So what's more likely to happen first?
Marchenko.
No, I say Hellebuck.
Really?
Yeah.
Now, why do you think, Chessie, from everything we've heard and what CJ's talked about on the CJ show, that nothing's particularly close, the offers have been terrible.
What changes when the puck drops?
I think when the games start playing, teams are going to realize our goaltending isn't solid, and that'll open the market back up on Hellebuck.
And then you'll get something where Shavilleuf looks at the value he's getting back for Hellebuck and say, okay, I know where a goaltending value is.
I want it to be up here, but I know it's down here.
He's going to accept that deal that's in that level.
because right now I don't think he's willing to cave.
But once the season starts, he just has that asset sitting there.
I can see him taking one of those deals.
That's good.
From one of those desperate teams who doesn't have goal tending.
Man, does Detroit ever feel like Detroit or Columbus or something like that?
Buffalo, maybe, now that the two goalies are out.
It would be very funny if two of them got traded for each other.
Yeah.
It's not going to happen.
Larkin?
Larkin for Marchenko or something.
It's not going to happen, but it would be funny.
Steve, where is your landing spot for Dylan Larkin?
Hopefully.
Okay, genuinely, I don't care where he goes as long as they suck.
What?
As long as they stink.
Why?
As long as they are a basement dweller and a basement dweller forever.
What?
Because he's like, here's my list of exclusively cup contenders with no futures to give whatsoever.
And people went, that's ridiculous, Dylan.
and then he went, oh, let me add four other great teams to this. Dylan,
check your own puckpedia, genius. You have five years left. And like I said with Winnipeg
and Hullabuck, what those situations share besides the fact that they have five years left,
if the Red Wings suck and if the Jets suck, it doesn't matter. Like they can afford
to just be like, well, we suck this year, and it's fine.
They're in no panic situation.
So I think it'd be great for him to be like, all right, fine.
Here's my ninth team, and they are just dog doodoo.
Worst outcome is he gets his way and wins the cup.
In Vegas.
Yeah, in Vegas.
Yeah.
Which is, by the way, the most likely scenario.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, there's some booze.
Man.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
We don't want anyone's agent coming down here, all right?
Get enough phone calls from those people.
I want to say the...
They should have been calling the hurricanes trying to get a deal done.
Yeah, okay.
So, so...
Adam, where is your Larkin landing spot?
So my Larkin landing spot is Minnesota.
And I think if he goes and he wins there, I don't hate it because I think Minnesota deserves it.
I hate it with the force of a thousand...
But it's interesting, Jesse, and Stephen.
So, hold on...
I didn't know you hated Larkin this much.
Man, this is crazy.
even holding this.
Remember, Jesse, this kind of reminds me of when Steve went on that weird brand about
Chuck Fletcher and the Minnesota wild years ago.
He's like, these guys caused the lockout.
It was horrible.
They cost me so much money because I couldn't work that year.
And at the scene of the crime, once again, Minnesota.
Minnesota, yeah.
Who do you dislike more?
Chuck Fletcher or Dylan Larkin?
A lot of ooze in the room.
It's a bizarre comparison.
You got to understand.
I've never seen Chuck Fletcher drink with Cash Patel.
No.
Oh.
Oh.
Difficult to argue that point.
Okay, now, okay, so...
Release the files.
I saw a tweet today.
I saw a tweet today.
And a thing about the tariffs.
Yeah.
And another thing.
You've had a few of those triple bogeys, huh?
Just getting on a couple of cocktails.
Let's go.
So, so let me ask you this.
And I love the EU.
Of the eight teams that he has requested a trade to,
only one of them has like almost two million in cap space.
Which one's that?
I believe it's Tampa.
Oh, wow.
And so everybody else, it's like a few of them have negative cap space.
I'm sure there's some LTIR coming.
But clearly they're going to have to take something back.
What does a Dylan Larkin trade package look like?
Like, what do you get in?
Is Detroit, because Detroit needs a win here.
And are they going to get a win or are they just going to get sewered again?
I think they need to get a player who is, I'm going to go like 23, 24, they're good now, they're going to be better.
Yep.
Like, one thing I don't think you want to signal to the fans, they're smart fans and everything, but I don't want them to go full rebuild after how long they've been bad.
Maybe they ought to.
I don't know if fans are necessarily cheering for that.
Well, Detroit fan?
What are you cheering for?
What's your goal this year?
Are you hope they trade larkin into the sun?
Do you even care about the return?
Florida doesn't have the cap space.
I'm gonna.
He's got two teams.
Who do you got?
Habs hat.
He's a Panthers fan.
There's a Panthers hat.
Hey Bruins fan.
Give him your jersey so he can like get closer to the whole division.
Yeah.
A Panthers Red Wings fan.
That's like taking your phone and putting it in one pocket and then moving it to the other.
Loves Alex Lion.
Yeah, yeah.
Guy loves Alex Lion.
Big Lion guy.
Wait, Sabers fan.
Yeah, there you go.
What was the question?
Well, I just wonder like what a trade package looks like.
Okay.
He's not going to get traded for Nyes, but a player like Nyes.
You know what I mean?
Young and cost control, do you mean?
Young, cost controlled, good at hockey.
Marchenko's a little older,
but he's pretty good, too.
Matt Poldy?
Yeah, and the Minnesota deal is Matt Bolley.
I think Hayden...
No.
No.
I don't even...
Hayden would quit sports altogether
and go back to tree planning.
I don't think we'd be able to stomach that as a network.
But you understand what I mean.
I do.
Jesse?
Yeah, because that's the tough thing about Minnesota.
They gave up all of their cost-controlled
young players in the Quinn Hughes deal.
Yeah.
So they don't really have this.
straight assets to do it again for Larkin.
So you've got to find a situation that has it.
Is it that they trade Quinn Hughes
and then all of a sudden have the assets?
Go get Dylan Larkin.
That's interesting.
Let's say he doesn't want to sign in Minnesota.
They move him and then they do a three-way
and they get Larkin.
Yeah, that's fun.
End up with like Evangelista and some picks.
If anybody's going to do it, it's Bill Gwaven.
Well, they're trading in New Jersey.
I don't know who that.
Oh, you never heard of that?
Oh, you're right. Never heard of them.
Okay.
First, okay, oh, this is a good one, and I think I feel like I know how this room is going to answer this question.
Lots of really young good players in the league this year.
Porter Martone.
Ivar Stenberg.
Gavin McKenna.
Someone else.
Who will win the Calder this year?
Gavin?
Our one Sharks fans of Stenberg.
Who do you think wins the Calder this year?
I know that's a really unfair question, but that's what podcasts are for.
How many games did Mesa play last?
year. I think he played more.
He's like right there.
He's not eligible?
No, not anymore. No, I play too much. I think he's going to be good though.
Yeah, 45. He is going to be good.
Oh, 45? Yeah, yes, he's over.
Hagen's in Boston.
I like Hagen's. There's a, there's a contender too.
Did Brady Martin make the Preds?
Yes, I think he did.
We got yes over here, yeah.
Cole Hudson's a good pick.
Nah.
No?
No. The defenseman.
Yeah.
It's hard to win the call there.
that.
Yeah.
Unless you're putting up a bunch of points.
So, okay.
It matters that Schaefer just put up $40 billion.
Cole,
Hudson, could have a Calder worthy season, but not get it for the pure fact that he's not
matching.
And I think when you have such like offensive talent, like McKenna and Stenberg, like
it's hard for Cole Hudson to leap that.
So like we've had.
McKenna's going to be playing in the top six.
Interestingly, guys, we have had two straight defensive.
Calder winners, Lane Hudson and Schaefer.
Two guys who put up some of the craziest point totals
we've ever seen out of rookie defensemen.
True. I don't see Hudson in that department.
Have a pair of brothers ever won the Calder?
Oh, that's a good question.
Interestingly, too, Moritz-Sider has also won at this decade.
Yeah.
But Bard, Maddie Baneers, I forgot won one.
And in 2021, it's hard to believe,
Carrille Caprizov, who was 24.
He was like 30.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he was.
crazy.
Not a lot of defensemen win it, though.
It's a really good one.
McKenna's the right answer.
Yes.
McKenna's the right answer.
Does McKenna have the best linemates
out of all of the rookies?
Stenberg's playing with Celebrini.
Oh, well.
I'll take John Tavares every day.
I mean, he does cost like a fifth of what Celebrity is.
That's right?
For cost per cool guy?
Like John Tavares wins.
Cost per vibes.
Yeah.
He's up there.
He's in a great situation.
Hmm?
What?
This guy is so pumped.
This shark's guy is so freaking pumped.
As he should be.
You keep it up.
I don't know if the future's teal anymore.
You keep it up.
I think the present is teal.
That's the problem.
Got it.
All right.
All right.
Okay.
Last question of these.
And then I got some other things I want to get to
before we wrap up the show.
Will Jesse win the longest drive at Corson Clubhouse tonight?
Return?
Oh, wait.
You won it last year?
Oh, returning, champ?
Oh, okay, all right.
Now, Jesse, you did your drives already, right?
Yeah.
Or do you still have one to do?
No, I'm good with my job.
Oh, he's good.
There's a reason I saved this, you see?
Yeah, I see, I see.
I see the vision.
All right.
What was your longest drive?
And it was at the, on the simulator, it was at the BAMP Springs.
Yeah, so we got to set the other one to BAMP too
because you get a little the air flowing because of where it is.
Yeah, yeah.
So the ball is flying a little hard.
further, sorry.
320.3.
Nobody's even applauding you.
Everybody's like, you know what?
Screw this guy.
Okay.
Okay.
Later on, you can tell me, Steve, I beat you.
If you beat my longest drive,
on average it was 100.
And then one ball, I was just like,
that sounded very good.
250.
Yeah.
Oh,
250!
See, they'll applaud that.
They'll applaud that,
but they don't like your score.
Do we have a prize for the longest?
I'm sure we do.
Somewhere.
We've got prizes here, do we not?
Yeah, yeah.
320.3, I think it's the back bay.
It's gonna be set up there.
Swing all night.
Try your best.
Oh, is it carry or total?
Total, not carry.
It carried like 301 or something.
It was long ago.
Yeah, it was pretty good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
A couple of things that I want to hit on the personal
note before we
before we go to some trivia
okay first off
Q&A too I don't know if you guys yeah we'll do Q&A for sure
do you guys know that Steve Dangl's 20th season
of LFR that is
very very impressive
he's so old
he's so old
he's so old he's so old
he's so old
he's so old
so many years
yeah so many years
that's so true
oh my God I can remember just so you know
Steve Dangle putting it on his
MSN messenger
name
and and
you'd have to copy and paste the link
from the messenger name and then put it in your
Netflix navigator or whatever it was
Internet Explorer
NetScape not Netflix
Netflix yeah
I thought he was just making something up
I drank a lot
The Simpatico disc
that had the internet on them
because I remember that?
You got a disc with the internet
LFR was mail-in, like old-school Netflix.
So, mail mail.
So 20 years, what do you have in store for us?
Well, Drew and I were on the phone for an embarrassing amount of time yesterday evening,
finishing the intro.
Obviously, there's new victory puppy.
Max, been working all summer on getting them to catch treats,
and I'm excited to say he has no idea what he's.
doing okay no idea I want to I want to involve a lot of like old footage okay
in there there's there's gonna be a lot of harkening back and heart heart not
call it well not Larkin we will not be larkening back absolutely that should be
the feature yeah larkening back might revisit some old bits
Might be some little bit of Nazim Cadry, Bob Ross.
I want Bow's Light Year.
Bo's Light Year.
Bo's Light Year.
Musly Year.
Bring me the MacArthur Sword.
There was a ton.
And stuff that goes like way.
You used to run a lot more bits than you do now.
Because bits take a lot of time.
People are like, you've got to do the John Tavares IKEA thing.
And I'm like, that's going to add a solid 20 minutes to what I'm doing.
And it's midnight.
I want to go to bed.
Yeah.
The Kyle Dubus, when you just put on the glasses
and you become Kyle Dubus,
those are really funny.
Yeah, it used to work.
And now it's like Kyle Dubus ate Kyle Dubus.
And I don't know if it works anymore.
And the beard.
Kyle doesn't have the beard.
You'll write the beard.
Yeah, that's it.
That's it.
Yeah, my bad.
Kyle Dubus looks like he eats cereal after 8 p.m.
Even though his doctor told him not to.
Anyway.
What kind of cereal?
What's your go-to?
For your late-night snacking?
cereal. Adam, you got to answer this too.
What's your go-to?
Well, okay.
There was a time
when I used to go to
just straight-up Cheerios with some raisins in it.
But...
Thank you, San Jose guy.
San Jose guys on my side.
The Panthers got less
of a boo than that. There was a time.
But I
have to say, I
have converted to the Frosted
mini wheat things.
I like those.
I like those.
The Cheerios gave me gas.
I'm not going to lie.
They do be doing that.
Yeah.
The dudes, you can't.
It's all the raisins.
It's the raisins.
Yeah.
It was the Cheerios.
Shut up.
It's the bag of raisins you're
eating at 9 p.m.
At least I'm regular.
You whitewash breakfast
cereal.
Like, how did you,
How did you do that?
Well, last time I checked.
Yeah, right.
I do...
Oh, man.
I freaking love them all.
Okay, not night, morning.
Unfortunately, this is going to show my age.
Big Vector guy.
Oh, all right.
All right.
Go?
There we go.
See?
Yeah, no, you don't applaud Vector,
but you're like, I respect it.
Somehow they fit protein in there,
and I'm like, I don't know how you do that.
I like mixing.
Big fan of mixing.
What do you mix?
I like the apple cinnamon Cheerios
Oh, okay
A little bit of life
A little bit of life, friend, okay
You guys don't like life?
Life.
And I do like to start,
okay, it's not quite raisins
but I do like to take the spoon
that I'm going to eat the cereal with,
put it in a jar of peanut butter
and then put it in my cereal.
I friggin love it, dude.
Wow.
I love it.
Protein.
Okay, all right, all right.
Doctor told me I need more calories.
Yeah, there you get.
He said, oh, you're wasting away.
Also, my doctor is Minona.
Yeah.
Oh, mancha.
Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life?
You know, the same way you can skip an ad?
I get it.
I'm Siaia and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned.
And today, I'm still figuring it out.
Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Apparently, that's how I roll.
So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride.
Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem.
What does a sunny getaway with Air Canada sound like?
Sunny Jamaica moves to its own rhythm.
Rio comes alive long after the sun goes down.
Philippines slows everything down.

There's Sunny Lima

It's gonna be good, watch it, click subscribe and all that
I got a question
Is there any
This is sort of like when you ask a boomer
If they went to Woodstock and they're all like, yes we did
And then like only 100,000 people were there
But there's like a million people
who claim to be there
How many of you actually saw a vision
video from Steve's first season.
A couple. You weren't born?
Yeah, how many people were born?
Hold on, how old are you?
You're 19. Yeah.
It was negative one, he said.
And even like for the first decade, you couldn't even access the internet to watch it.
Holy shit.
Wow.
2013? Okay. All right, now, okay.
While we're getting over the sting of death over here.
I would like to pause the audience.
Put your hand up, I'll point to you,
because if you all yell it out at the same time,
we won't get the specialness of it.
How did you discover LFR?
How did you discover LFR?
YouTube.
Man, that's so crazy.
Damn, I remember the YouTube days.
All right, let's start over here with the green hat
in the Leafs jersey, sir.
David Ayers.
Oh, that's pretty recent.
That's like five, six years ago now, 2019,
Just before, it was one of the final LFRs before the COVID shutdown.
Okay, all right.
All right.
Let's go you, sir, with the white shirts.
Phil Kesson, here, wasted.
All right.
At the friend here, ma'am.
Nashville.
Nashville, 9-2.
That's a big one.
Yeah, that was a bad one.
All right, and right beside you, your name?
Peter.
Peter.
Austin Matthew's debut.
Hit him with the four like Austin Matthews.
I like that.
All right.
At the back, Leaves hat right there.
You.
Yeah.
Oh,
first season
I was complaining about Ray Crom.
That's 08, right?
No, because he did 0708, yeah.
0708, yeah.
Because you were old,
you did Vesatoskala impressions back of the day.
Yeah, I did.
And it's Mickey Mouse T-shirt
that he liked to wear.
No, because I want to say
Raycroft's first year
where he set the wins record
was 0-6-07,
and then the next year they got to Toskala.
Yeah, and he was bad.
Okay.
Sir, with the first year,
glasses on your hats. I'm just going to have to
2013 game seven. That's a good
one. Okay and at the back ma'am
Road to the Winter Classic
recap it. Oh that was us? Yeah we did that.
Did we do that? Yes. In your
mother's basement.
Yes.
I don't remember that. Was
were those on the Leaf's website?
I wasn't on the show then.
Wow. That was the least website. That's throwing it back.
Yeah. That was on the Leafs website?
Yeah. Your videos?
Yeah. They used to like us. Yeah.
Yeah, they did.
Shocking.
Like, we both worked for them
at various points.
They still tolerate us.
Yeah, no, they're fine.
They're fine.
I think they get frustrated
with our take sometimes,
but we were right.
They don't.
They're good to us.
At the front?
College.
So you discovered the pod first
and then LFR.
Usually it's the other way around.
At the back with the glasses, sir.
Yeah.
Both light here to the rest here.
Amazing.
Love it.
And yes, sir, with the beard.
You found YouTube.
What did it?
You just typed Leafs into YouTube?
I was one of the first YouTube videos you ever watched.
You're old, Stephen.
Are you younger from space?
Oh, my God.
Old, old, old, old.
Old, old.
Oh, old, old, old.
All right, over here.
Yeah, Mike.
You heard me on real audio player.
I don't remember what that was.
I have no idea what that is.
That's how old it is, all right.
At the backs, yes, sir.
No.
I'm kidding.
2009 moved to Ottawa.
I had no Leafs talk.
Wow.
And every episode, still bad.
I wonder if anybody
discovered you through the dangle dial
with Jeff Blair.
Does anybody remember that?
Yeah, they discovered me
and immediately sent death threats.
Take this guy off the air.
He's brutal.
That was weird.
That was a very weird time.
Was weird.
Okay, and one more at the back.
Yes, sir.
Fresh out of surgery.
YouTube audio played a video.
Question for you.
How high?
Really high?
He said it's stuck in his head.
What is this voice?
Is this God?
Did something go wrong?
He's here now.
It's okay to joke about it.
Is this God?
Guys coming out of a wrist surgery.
Is this God?
All right.
Okay.
Well, listen.
Are you there?
God, it's me dangle.
We're...
We're very excited for LFR season 20.
Give Steve Dangle a round of applause, I think.
That's a YouTuber hitting 20 years.
Crazy.
Crazy.
10 more, 20 more.
We need the, listen, we got to, listen,
we're all playing for retirement here.
I like that he thinks I'll be successful enough
to retire in 10 years.
That's fair. That's fair.
All right, now, Jesse, do you have some trivia ready to go here?
Sure, yeah.
If we want to trivia, we can definitely do that.
We get stuff to give away.
Do you guys want stuff?
All right. Now, what do we have to get away? I know we got some mini sticks over there.
We do. We have SDPN mini sticks. We have some New York Rangers scarfs from their outdoor game.
Oh, well, if you're booing, you won't win it then. You don't have to answer the question.
Don't play in the trivia. And then we have some gifts that will go with your gifts that will be revealed when you win.
Okay?
Can I mention the silent auction?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mentioned that.
What's that? Oh, yeah, go ahead.
So, sort of in the middle of the room there, we're doing a silent auction for one of my personal jerseys.
It says old paint cans on the front.
It's one of Coach Jeremy's old ones.
There it is, right there.
I did want to do some of my Easterseals one.
They're all at the office.
I forgot to bring them.
But we're going to be silent auctioning that, and it's going to go towards Easterseals.
And you'll sign that?
Yeah, I haven't signed it, but that's because.
I'll do whatever you want.
Trace your bottom.
On the jersey.
Marker doesn't have enough ink.
All right, Jesse, you got one for us.
All right.
So I'm going to ask the question.
Then you guys, raise your hand.
Don't yell it out.
And then Adam or Steve will be in charge
of picking the person.
So it's their fault if they don't pick you.
You do a little of this.
You pick a person.
You pick a person.
Okay.
So on this year's roster,
what number does Beau grew wear?
29's correct.
Come on up.
That was quick.
That was very quick.
Mogru who made the Leafs.
Let's go.
Because it's a Leafs question,
you're going to win a pair
of William Nealander socks.
But because every prize comes with a gag,
you also get Mitch Marner Leafs socks.
He just flipped Jesse off.
That's great.
You know what?
Considering what he said about Steve,
Steve and I earlier, good.
Good.
All right, next up we have.
We found the guy whose fault it is.
We've been looking for him this whole time, and it's his fault.
We have an SDPN mini stick and a copy of Black Aces by Julian McKenzie.
Yeah.
All right.
So the Leafs have retired several numbers.
One including Turk Brodas.
What number was he?
In the red hat there.
Number one.
Get on down here.
By the way, I do.
I just want to point out how bad Steve's eyes are.
That's a Nordique's hat.
Yep.
Oh, is it?
I said red hat.
So your...
I can see the hand.
I can't see any of your facial features.
We got one more prize coming for you.
Oh, hold on.
Hey, Dangal jersey winner, come on down.
Yeah, he's got...
Because you won the Black Aces, the SDPN mini stick,
but you also get Quinn Hsu's in Vancouver.
And it's Hayden giving it to him.
There you go.
Yeah, it's good that Hayden had to give it to him.
Steve, do you have any trivia off the top of your head you want to do?
No, I think you do.
No?
There's your glasses if you need them.
Come on, you don't have trivia?
You?
Really.
I'll ask one why you think.
Two players in Leaf's history have worn number six.
Name either one of those two.
Adam, pick a person.
Just pick a person.
You know what?
With the teal shirt on over there, sir.
Ron Ellis.
Ron Ellis is one.
Ace Bailey is the other one.
Hell yeah.
Look at him.
Ron Ellis.
Yeah, well done.
Listen, everybody in this room is impressed.
Everybody's impressed.
This SDPN Spark minisk
is actually signed by us.
I don't remember when we signed this,
but we did.
I'm sure you'll be playing with it often.
You're going to win that along with the New York Rangers
Winter Classic scarf.
And here's your gag gift.
Brady Kachuk in Ottawa.
McFarlentoy.
Okay, I got one.
He's got one.
Oh, you got a question?
Okay.
This will be for an SDPN mini stick
plus a Matthew Goodchuk pair of socks.
Which I assume nobody wants.
Where's our Panthers Detroit Buffalo guy?
Also likes Ottawa sometimes.
At the Leaf's last home preseason game.
Okay.
Who was Darren Radish's D partner?
Riley, yeah.
Oh, I thought you would.
Enjoy it.
All right.
I thought you were like,
I thought you meant like while he was with the lightning.
No.
Home at Toronto.
I don't know that.
He wasn't a leave then.
No, okay.
Yeah.
I didn't know.
I don't,
I never knew him.
Um,
okay.
Jesse,
you have another one?
Do you have one?
Oh.
That'll be good.
You got one?
Oh.
Steve's got another one.
Go ahead.
Let's see if you were listening to the last episode.
Oh.
Oh.
What number does Marshall Rify where?
You,
Yeah.
83.
83.
There you go.
Rangers Scarf, Spark, Spark,
mini stick, and
let's go with
once again Brady Kachuk in Ottawa.
Yeah.
Let's go.
Hell yeah.
We should have saved those
and done an Ottawa show.
That's good.
Dude, we had so many
of these in the basement.
And then Hughes got traded
and we went, well.
And then, oh, we have a few
left over of Brady and went well.
You know, that might be the one that was, it was briefly in the blue room.
And then I realized, I don't want this.
So I brought it back.
We have here for the winner of the longest drive, Austin Matthews McFarland Toy.
Plus, that'll come with an SDPN minisk.
So go swing your hardest and you'll be walking home with this.
All right.
Anything else?
Yeah, if we want to give away the last New York Ranger's scarf and SDP mini stick, we can't do that
if you got a trivia. Let me think here. I got a think
here. Do it. No. Oh, yeah.
Do it history. I don't know, man.
During the Battle of the Song. Yeah, it's got
to be about a big war that
you're really into.
Okay.
I got one that's local.
You ready?
The biggest battle ever fought on Canadian
soil was called what?
No.
No. No. Hang on.
You're picking.
You're picking.
You're picking.
I'm picking somebody.
All right.
I forget who put their hands up first.
So I apologize if it was.
Beside the San Jose Sharks, gentlemen.
Lundy's Lane.
Oh, wow.
Within about 20 minutes from here.
That's right.
And the reason that was big is that it was at night.
And they brought a lot of people and nobody knew who anybody was and they started shooting at their own people.
Yes.
Yes, yes.
This happened.
But.
But we got some Americans too.
Oh, it's a joke for God's.
Good to end on a feel good story.
You told me to do history and then you said war.
I don't know.
All right, all right.
No, that's about how I expected to go.
Yeah, all right.
I got what I asked for.
Okay, okay.
So question and answer.
We're going to do a little bit of that.
If you've ever had a question for any of us, all of us, whatever, just put up your hand.
And we will try to get to everybody, everybody that we possibly can.
Because we get nothing but time here.
At the back, I'm going to start with Mr. Pittsburgh Penguins, I think.
Yes, sir.
All right. Okay, so the question is, for anybody listening at home, our favorite Steve Dangl impression, his is Alan Walsh. Jesse.
Mine's his Obama. No! No! He does.
Steve does the greatest Obama impression of anybody on earth.
Do it.
Refuses to do it because it's a little weird.
We can edit it out.
Is it only be in front of the people?
Well, that's actually pretty good.
You heard it, you got a tease.
That was it.
That was it.
What, you think there's more?
There is more.
Mine's less good.
It's a tie between Tavaris and Babcock.
Tavars is amazing.
Your Tavaris one's great.
It's so spot on.
And the thing is to get the Tavaris one, you have heard him speak, which is rare.
Babcock is a little bit easier because, you know, he was the head coach and he likes to talk.
Well, and also just nobody talks like that.
Like, the one thing we didn't talk about is yesterday when we were doing that oiler segment,
I was like, who the hell talks like that?
Nobody.
Nobody in this country.
We actually, when we had Sean Fitzgerald on.
Yep.
Before the, yeah, hell.
Yeah, we lost.
Sean Fitzgerald.
We love Sean Fitzgerald.
We had him on before COVID.
This was in the Virgin Studios.
And he interviewed a link.
linguists, like a language expert to be like, what is this accent?
And I don't remember exactly what he said he made it up.
The two takeaways that I remember is he made it up,
and this is a headstrong individual.
Right. So if John Tavares was asking Gavin McKenna to come live with him this year,
how would that sound?
Hey, Gavin, you want to be roommates?
I just kill two birds with one.
one stone, you get a place to live and I get a babysitter.
Just Josh and my wife and I
will watch the kids for their parents.
The other day, Tavares was saying
he couldn't find his kids and then he
found them in McKenna's room and they were
all playing NBA 2K together.
Oh, amazing. So like, their
relationship, I assume, is so funny.
Don't John you. And they drive in
together obviously when they're going to practice
into the games, but that's
I would watch that buddy comedy film.
Oh my God.
Like, it'd be awesome.
Yes.
What's your title?
Oh, what's the title?
What is the title?
J.T. and me.
Oh, that's a good one.
That's good.
Okay, next question.
People put their hands up.
I'm going to go to the back.
Don't worry, guys.
I will get to you.
Yes, sir, with the tattoos.
Well, I'm, yeah, I'm just going to say,
you can't be both.
Jesse's five years younger, but yeah.
So the question is,
I almost gave my answer away.
The question is, bands you got into from playing NHL because the music plays and stuff.
I also got into a lot of electronic music via FIFA, right?
It was always really good for that, too.
So who were the bands?
I'll just start because these guys are thinking, Avenge Sevenfold.
I still think they're one of the greatest live bands that's ever walked the earth.
And unbelievable.
I really, I didn't like Fall Out Boy until the 2005 game, and they had one of them where there was like screaming it.
I was like, this is, I like this song.
And I forget what it was called, because their song titles are literally a sonnet.
It's so long.
They are very long.
And then to start off NHL 99, I think, or is it NHL 98, whatever the one with Pronger, was that 2000?
Pronger might have been 2000.
No, 01 was Owen Nolan, and I know because that was one of my favorites ever.
Pronger, I think it was 2000.
There was one, there was a song by Garbage that I really, really liked, and it was the intro.
And it's, I think the court, no, the chorus was.
like this is the noise that keeps me awake and I used to sit there with my joystick at my computer just
ready to go so excited because I used a joystick because yeah yeah so that was those are the three
that I can think of my I was looking up what a game it was in its NHL 06 I discovered Billy Talent and
and read the song Red Flag was on NHL 06 that was the first time I ever heard Billy Talent or that song
and I play that game so much.
Wasn't that the first year of the Blackberries too?
The GMO BlackBerry?
I'm not sure if it was 06 or not.
But, yeah.
Oh, that was a good one.
That was 06.
Yeah, I had that on PC.
That was a good one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Push it.
Push it. Garbage.
There it is.
Yeah, that's the only reason I ever heard Billy Talon
because is the NHL.
06.
I am a tremendous disappointment to my father because he's a huge music guy
and I don't know.
any band names or song names.
You're a hip-hop guy, though.
Yeah.
He's a rock guy.
Another reason I'm a huge disappointment in my dad.
You love hip-hop.
I do.
But the lead song for NHL 2001,
I think it is collective soul.
Is it heavy or is it weight?
All your weight.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I love collective soul.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's a good one.
So good.
All right.
Okay, next one.
Great question.
Yeah, these are great questions.
Okay, I'm going to do one at the front because I've done a bunch of the back.
Team Canada, Jersey.
What's your name?
All right, Jason, go ahead.
Who's your favorite referee and why is it West Macaulay?
Fighting.
Feel good.
Yeah, that's definitely why I tune in is to watch them to the...
Oh, to the...
I don't know their name.
Guy I don't notice.
Yeah, that's a good one.
I don't know their name.
My favorite one is whenever the Canucks are playing with Kelly Sutherland.
Because I think in the playoffs with Kelly Sutherland, they're 0 and 11.
I don't know how that's possible, but I'm pretty sure scouting the refs has them at 0 and 11 with Sutherland Ruffs.
And I thought that stats crazy.
I'm like, how can you not prove bias with that?
They've lost every game, every game?
West McCauley in the playoffs.
Oh.
It's crazy.
I know for a fact, the Dubus Eri-Leafs, there was a ref.
that I think if they could have beat them up
in the parking lot they would have.
Okay.
But I forget their name,
which means they might be good.
Oh, okay.
I can't remember who they were.
Jesse, do you have one?
Do you care?
My favorite ref is the one
that shoved Michael Bunting.
Yeah, yeah.
And then...
Dan Kelly.
And then Michael Bunting
wasn't allowed to do anything back
and just have to stand there and take it.
It was very weird.
And love that guy.
Nothing happened.
No.
That guy just told,
good job by Gary Bettman.
And you could lip read his Scarborough
accent. That was crazy.
Yeah, Bunza, yeah.
Remember he? That was crazy.
It was crazy.
All right.
At the, okay, we'll go
sharks, sharks guy, and then the
Quebec guy will come after you.

Okay, fantasy sleeper picks.
Jesse's really good at this.
Porter Martone.
He'd have a really good, you're looking for offense.
Like, he could have a crazy breakout season.
And the limited amount of games, like, what was it, 12 or something last year, nine points.
So we could see him just turn that up and just have a great season.
I don't know how far he's going to drop because he's an incredible player.
But I think people are going to be hesitant to draft him too high
because he's suspended the first six games of the year.
And that's Charlie McAvoy.
And another player that very few people in this room like,
you can shove them on IR, Brad Marshan.
Yeah.
You could pick him late.
I picked them late.
Yeah, it's a free draft pick.
Because you could just put them on IR and then when your draft is done,
you pick up somebody on the waiver wire.
I did that with Barzal and Bedard last night.
I had stashed them and then I put two waiver claims in.
You clowns let me get this guy.
He was second in the league in wins last year.
Karel Vemalka.
Oh. No, I have Bussy in our pool.
Ha, ha, ha.
I've Soroken and Bussie. Do we like that? Is that good?
I don't know.
I feel it's okay. It's okay.
Okay, we're a little tepid on that.
All right, over here. Yes, sir.
McKenna's comparables are Kutrov and Kane, according to some.
Why not try him on right wing?
They are starting him slow.
They're giving him the best opportunity to succeed by not giving him too much too soon.
But easily, one day, he's going to get the shot at the other wing,
because Patrick Kane has great skill on that other wing and on the off side.
But you want to set him up as an 18-year-old in this league with an area where,
a line where he can not handle the big burden against the top guys on the other side.
So you're not starting against the highest competition on the other team.
And he gets a really good defensively responsible center in JT, which Austin will be too.
But you're putting him there on the second line on the left wing so he can be comfy.
And then eventually he'll get an opportunity somewhere else in the lineup.
And as we saw in the third period of the second game, he was playing with Matthews.
But the thing is, is that, like, Matthews is going to draw the team's best defensive player.
Like, if you're playing a great, like, let's say you're playing the Oilers.
You're going to get Dickinson, right?
Unless you get McDavid.
You're going to get Connerick, David.
No, listen, you guys all laugh.
Dickinson's a great defensive center.
And I think the thing with McKenna is you just want him to believe that he can do it.
Let him get 10 goals first, right?
Exactly.
You know?
Yeah.
Right?
And then we'll go from there.
Who else is?
Hat backwards right beside Mr. Sharks guy.
When did the Bruins finally die?
Yes.
If yes, these guys, it's this year.
I think it might be in seven.
In my prediction.
You have them in Leif's spot, according to Steve?
Yeah, Leaves.
And Steve has the Leafs in Seventh.
I have the Bruins in seven.
So who's the true fan here?
Yeah.
I don't know.
You know, well, it's the Habs pandering.
You got to put them that lower.
Yeah, yeah.
I was going to say,
McAvoy missing the first six games is going to hurt them.
But this has happened to them a couple times where they just like spite their way to a bunch of early season wins.
But if they do stumble out of the gate because of that, I still think the Atlantic Division doesn't have a truly bad team.
Maybe a few mids.
Detroit is the closest thing they have to a bad team.
Detroit's got talent, though. Detroit is talent.
They had over 90 points.
Yeah.
They're still a good team.
They're just a mess in their front office, which does.
does spill over the ice sometimes.
They're underrated because, like,
Sean Horkoff is not going to play for this team.
Neither is Chris Illich.
No.
Like, no, they have good players.
Yep.
So all that to say, any points the Bruins drop,
it's, or anyone in the Atlantic Division,
it's going to be a big deal because it's so tight.
The thing is to, like, I think we have this belief
because we went through it about 10 years ago,
that you have to crash out to be good again.
And, you know, 2011.
I can remember the Bruins in the cup finals,
they haven't been bad since then.
You can actually run a successful organization.
Like, you could just do it.
You could just be good.
You could just continue getting good players.
And I think the Bruins are,
as much as I hate to say it,
they are a class A organization
in terms of finding talent.
And when they were good,
they also were able to find,
like obviously they were able to sign Charra,
draft Bergeron,
draft Marchand, draft Luchich,
I think all in the same like four-month span.
It was amazing.
But you can,
can continue, like they found Pastranach.
They found, like, these guys
just continue to find good players and the
best organizations do. So I don't know
if, yeah, Brandon Carlo, yeah, you're right.
And then they make bold trades.
Like the thing about the Bruins, too, that people
forget, and as I'm watching this,
you know that NHL follow tracker?
Oh, what now?
Is it all the guys, Marchenko's follows?
Marchenko just followed a bunch of Bruins,
and the Bruins just followed them all back.
Oh, okay. But you know, like, you know,
Remember, like Hampus Lindholm trade, Rick Nash trade.
Even Matt Boleski, when he went on that here, that was a trade.
Like, Taylor Hall, they do go out and get guys, too.
And I think that's the thing with the Bruins is they're just, you never can count them out,
although I am this year.
Apparently, they tried to get Philipronic this summer.
Yeah.
Because Philharonik doesn't want to leave Vancouver.
They accidentally leaked it on social.
Yeah, yeah.
But they didn't want, yeah.
So I think the Bruins are just one of those teams that's really well run, unfortunately.
Okay, what else we got?
You know what, sir, you had the backwards hat as well, so I feel bad.
Yeah, you, yeah, with the red, maroon color.
Yeah.
I have a gift and a question.
A gift and a question.
Which would you like to do first?
You want the guest?
Sure.
I like free stuff.
Thank you, sir.
Thank you.
Oh, he's got an abs jersey on boo.
No, I'm kidding.
That's a cool abs jersey.
Did you wear this last year?
No.
You made that.
Yeah, this is like, I look.
Turn around and show the audience.
It looks very cool.
That's nice.
Wow.
Incredible.
Here, come into the camera here and show the camera.
Show the camera very quickly.
We'll take this.
Here, look.
There it is.
Yeah, right there.
Yeah, you look great on the laptop.
It looks great.
That's great.
That's great.
He makes his own jerseys. That's incredible.
All right.
I felt bad that we made so many abs jerseys and not a ton of Maple Leafs jersey.
So you made a Leafs jersey?
Yeah.
Sick.
I don't know if you ever played Ghost of Sushima.
I know you play Red Dead.
No, but I've been told to play it because it's similar.
It's phenomenal.
He almost swore.
It's that good.
design this one based off of an outfit from that game.
Oh, show, okay.
Show the camera, show the audience.
I didn't even know it was your 20th anniversary.
Oh, look at this.
That's awesome.
Wow.
That's actually awesome.
Man, so cool.
Put that on, Steve.
You got to put that on.
Wow.
And your name is?
Here, let me pose with Betman.
What's your name?
Just fighting a call.
Coltale.
Is Tyler?
Tyler?
Can we order them?
Like, do you have an Etsy shop or something like that?
Yeah, okay.
I guess that might be illegal too, but yeah, it is a trademark thing, but these are sick.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, okay, let me ask you this.
What was your question?
Rule ideas.
All right, tell everybody.
I just wanted to see which one you guys thought was, like, good or which one you like more.
So one of the rule ideas is if people take pass.
penalties in the last two minutes or five minutes depending on the length of the penalty in third period of regulation
that the time keeps going till that penalty is over okay so you can throw multiple goals it keeps going oh that's interesting
i like that yeah or like if you take a five minute with five minutes left and then if you keep taking
penalties to try to kill it it just keeps going uh but like obviously not like sudden death yeah
playoffs yeah yeah yeah but like regular season so here's the thing with that you would probably have
like all i can think of when i think of that is is tim stootslowe you'd have you would just have the
olympic diving team you know what i mean and i think what that does that the n hl doesn't like
although i like the creativity and you guys can disagree with me if you think i'm wrong is that it puts
the hand in the game of the refs or they the sorry the reps then control yeah and i think that they don't
they try not to do that where possible i think but i like it
And then the key.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
The other idea was,
game it was,
but there was like the controversy about,
like, how far the puck gone over the line or not.
Yeah.
But, like, you could see part of the puck.
Mm-hmm.
Like, they know the dimensions of the puck to, like, a micrometer.
Mm-hmm.
And they probably know how many pixels on the screen is how many centimeters.
But, like, to help out,
why not have, like, a gold indication line that's, like,
one millimeter.
You mean, like, tennis.
Yeah, like one, it's like a skinny line.
It's like one, if the puck's three inches, make it like a millimeter past that.
And if it's touching that, you know it's in.
So the technology exists.
And Jesse and I have talked to Alan about this.
And Alan's answer is always they're too cheap to do it.
Just paint a line?
No, it's not.
So what you would do, I think, right, with the tennis.
The tennis one's easier to see because you can see it.
Yeah.
But you would put some sort of magnet strip in there and you'd be able to know.
It's done with cameras.
So you would need enough camera sensors.
They'd have to install them in all the arenas.
But it'd be the same kind of technology where the football, the NFL, the football.
And the NFL has implemented like virtual measurements for the first downlines where they know the length of the ball.
And when the play is stopped, it's under a bunch of bodies and everything, but they have enough cameras that they can do the technology where they know if the nose of the ball hits the first downline or not.
The NHL could do something like that, but it would require them to.
utilize the technology to do it, which they haven't taken the initiative to do.
Why spend the money when you can have a five-minute break in the frigging game?
That's why, yeah.
I love your idea for the two-minute major.
I think I've talked about it on the show before.
I don't think the NHL would do that.
What I also don't think they would do this, but I think it'd be closer to a yes, a penalty shot.
If it's in the final two minutes.
I'd rather take the penalty.
Give me the two minutes.
Or like if they're trying to just keep taking penalties
Yeah
Yeah
I feel like there is a stipulation in the rules against that
10 seconds left
And they're just like chopping dude
Yeah like there should absolutely be something there
Yeah
Yeah yeah well this is this man thank you so much
The opposite of jail break
Get out go back to jail
Any other questions we have?
By the way thank you very much
I was great two more
Two more
I was barely paying attention to Adam
Majesty, I am sexy.
It's going to be the two of you.
Go ahead, sir.
So 10 years ago, Austin was drafted first overall.
This year, McKenna drafted first overall.
Which were you more excited about?
Oh, man.
Because it was depressing both times beforehand.
Okay, I'm going to say Austin.
McKenna is the luckiest thing ever.
Ever.
The sheer odds.
There was no planning that went in.
of that, they got lucky, beginning, middle, and end, and eight and a half percent.
Hell yeah.
I hope he ends the season with 85 points just for serendipity.
Balls, 12, balls, 12, balls, 12, balls, 12.
Matthews was the culmination of over a year of saying we're going to give ourselves
the best chance at this pick by being as bad as humanly possible.
And it happened.
And it works.
It also, there was an 80% chance of them not, or whatever, it was 80 or 75% chance.
The very likely scenario was they get Ikeld like the Sabres did, right?
Oh, we're going for McDavid and you don't end up with McDavid.
But that year it was like Linae who was number two.
Linae and it would have been like Pooley-Y RV.
Dubois was kind of off the board.
Yeah.
Like it might have been Matthew Kachukuk.
Yeah.
Which, you know, but it's not Austin Matthews.
Austin.
Yeah.
Like, it, I was more excited for him because there was, it was like an 18-month lead-up,
maybe longer.
From the moment they fired Randy Carlisle and started losing everything to the horror check years,
or years, it felt like years, it was just months.
I wonder what Peter Horacek's doing right now.
Losing less.
Yeah.
You know, I don't know.
He's probably walking around, like, buying his groceries going,
I coached the Leafs once.
Yeah.
It's kind of crazy.
Anyway.
Matthews was the culmination of nearly two years of hope.
Jesse Blake, what do you think?
No, I think Steve nailed it.
I'm not going to give a better answer than that.
I'll say this.
The McKenna one was more fun.
Yes.
That was the miracle.
More funny and fun.
It was more fun.
Just the dumb luck of it all.
And the last question was to you, sir, in the Leafs.
Jersey.
Yeah.
Every life.
live show. We get this question. And Adam and I sit here and we say, Steve, do the damn trade
trees again. Oh, it's a lot of work. I don't want to do work. Steve, when are trade trees coming
back? Trade tree. Trade tree. Trade tree. Trade tree. Trade tree. Trade tree. Thank you. I don't know.
Okay. It's an enormous amount of work for me. It's a lot of work. It's a lot of work.
work for Drew. Who's willing
to do it?
That's so crazy that you make
hockey content for a living.
Drew, right now.
If I was like Drew, next week
I want to make a trade tree. Do we have the time
and resources to do that?
No, it's an off-season thing.
Okay, so maybe next summer.
You're probably right.
It's a lot of work. I would like to do it.
Great idea.
By the way, we're going to clip that for the next live show.
We've legit had meetings about this internally, trying to convince him to do it.
So we're on board with you anyway.
We're on your side.
I want to see war tree.
I want Adam to be like, here's what the Napoleonic Wars led.
Well, I could.
This is how we got from here to here.
You know, like World War II is the reason we're now in this thing in 2020.
I could do that.
I could tell you about the first, second, and third coalitions of the French Revolution.
And like, how they all connect.
That's what you should do.
The French Revolution did the release of Grand Theft Auto Six.
Yeah.
That's what I want.
War connections.
I don't think we want to put war on our YouTube channel, though.
It doesn't really fit.
We're doing it.
Yeah, you want a history pod on the SDPN channel?
Yeah, all right.
Adam, just do that.
Oh.
At least it's right.
Oh, you know what at the time?
What do we pay you for?
I'm with you.
Let's revolt.
You have to yell Adam.
like how you yelled Brad.
Really loud when you're next to him.
Guys, listen, we are going to be available for pictures and everything after this.
There's also some announcements I have to make at the end of the show here.
But I just, I want to say this.
First off, last call for any kitchen orders.
Please head over to the server stand to place your order.
50-50 tickets are available for Easter Seals and also the silent auction too.
They're at the server stand or the bar.
Draw will be at 10 tonight.
So if you do the longest drive and you leave early, well, too bad.
And thank you to the incredible staff at the course in Clubhouse.
Listen, longest drive is in Bay 3.
Longest drive in Bay 3.
The Course in Clubhouse work their butts off every single year to have all of us come all in at once.
They get slammed in the kitchen.
If you've ever had a server job, you know what that's like.
And I just want to say, tip your servers.
Be good to everybody.
And thank you so much for showing up again for the fourth straight year.
We're going to take a quick break
and then we'll be available for pictures
and stuff after.
So the meet and greets along the back area
on this side to line up against that wall
if you want to get pictures and everything.
And you don't all have to come at once.
We will be here until the last person
gets their picture tickets.
I promise we won't go,
Ha!
Just leave out the back or something.
Anyway, peace.
All right. Love you all.
Thank you so much.
Steve.
