Do you want to talk for me?
AHHHHH!
So if it ever reaches that level, I guess we'll be okay.
Hey, yeah! Yeah!
Panago Pizza presents
S.C.P.
All Food Technic
The Steve Dangle Podcast
With your hosts, Steve Dangle
And Adam Weir
Okay, um, so, you know
What? You can't just start with okay!
Yeah, I can. You gotta be amped! We're back!
No, this is something that I have to do.
I have to tell you a story that's so embarrassing
that I have to tell you it
because I embarrassed myself
so badly this morning
in the dumbest way possible
that I feel like you know when you're so embarrassed
about something that you're like I have to tell someone
so they'll feel bad for me
so they'll level with me and be like
oh it's not that bad even though it sort of is
yeah no I think I know what you mean
not feel bad but like
the way I rationalize it is I can't be the only one
who knows this
Yeah.
Well, I'm definitely not the only one who knows this because it happened on TV.
Oh, dear.
Okay, so we're-
Did you throw your dog off the couch again?
No, no.
This is another incident.
Oh, okay.
Adam beats dogs.
There is a dog clip making the rounds right now of Storm.
Storm, the golden retriever who got the fawn, the fawn, the baby deer out of the water.
There's this fawn in this golden retriever who retrieves, actually retrieves a live animal.
It actually happens.
And the guy's like, good boy, storm.
Good boy, you get it out of the water.
Where's it from?
I would imagine the Northeast.
The Atlantic Northeast, I would imagine.
And anyway, so this golden retriever.
The Atlantic Northeast.
The Atlantic coast and the Northeast.
As opposed to the Northeast Pacific.
Northeast Pacific.
So there is this fawn that has swam out in the water.
and dog goes out and saves the fawn,
saves the baby deer, right?
Sure.
Adorable.
And so we're running this clip on Breakfast Television
and we're going, oh, isn't that great?
Isn't that super fantastic?
And I feel like, hey, I'm having a good morning.
I'm going to speak up and say something.
First mistake.
First mistake.
First mistake, never tweet in real life,
which is talking.
Right.
So never talk.
So, I remember reading an article about what happens when, like if Steve, if you were to hit a deer, and you were to pick that deer up and bring it to a veterinary center, even if they could fix the deer.
First of all, I am jacked.
In this, you are the rock, okay?
Yes.
And you pick up this deer, and the deer's got a broken leg, and you bring it to the vet center, and they fix it up.
The deer will, in all likelihood, still die.
Oh.
Do you know why?
No.
Because deer and other wild animals go into such shock when they're captured, and they're so terrified, their bodies actually panic to the point where they kill them.
Oh, holy smokes.
Like, it makes their bodies toxic.
Oh, this is nice.
So it's a shock to the system, and it's toxic.
I bet you all missed us.
Right.
So I say on TV.
Oh, no.
So I say on TV, well, they've got to be really careful with that fawn now.
And they said, well, why?
And I said, well, because when you capture a live animal, they can go into this shock system, which is a real thing.
And they can get – and basically toxicity of their body kills them because they're so freaked out.
I believe it's called toxic shock, which makes sense, right?
And everybody kind of looks at me and then looks away.
Oh, no!
And you guys are probably – you're going, okay, what's the big deal, right?
What's the big deal every single woman listening to this knows exactly where I went wrong
What is toxic shock syndrome?
What is it um it's something to do with childbirth no no it's when you leave your tampon in for too long
Oh, that's right, and it becomes it becomes toxic to your body
Oh, I said on TV that a deer gets toxic shock syndrome what I was looking for was myopathy
capture myopathy
No one corrected you?
No one corrected me.
Why?
And then I asked them later on in the show, I'm like, guys, what the hell?
Because I had a few, like, viewers tweet me and go, uh, just so you know, that's not toxic
shock.
And I was like, uh, did you, and they're like, yeah, we were wondering where you were going
with that, but we didn't really think anything of it.
And I'm like, there are women on this panel, you should have corrected me, where were you?
So my week was way better.
Why did you say that?
Well, because I was trying to add to the conversation and seem smart.
Why were you doing that?
I should have just not.
No, here's the thing.
I know that's what I mean, though.
Like, sometimes you have that moment, like, I'm going to add a little factoid.
Let's pretend that Adam didn't say that, and he said the right terminology, and that's
what he contributed to the conversation.
No.
So the clip is, look at this gorgeous, cute little golden retriever saving this adorable
baby fawn.
And then Adam had to interject, yes, but it might still die.
Yeah, why were you just being a kid?
I know.
I know that, too.
You interjected to be an asshole and be like, hey, this thing might die.
I know you guys had fun watching that, but it might die.
Remember that thing that was Fox and the Hound meets Bambi, but it was real life and adorable
and you couldn't possibly ruin it?
Guess what, everybody?
Hold my beer.
But actually.
Oh, dear.
Why would you do that?
Yeah.
And then I hit him over the head with the toxic shock syndrome, which was just, wow.
You interjected to be smart and say this thing might die, and you got it wrong.
Oh, listen, I know.
Sometimes you swing and you miss.
Sometimes you strike out, and sometimes you swing, you miss, you strike out,
and you throw your back out at the same time.
I don't think you made it to the stadium.
You might almost cut me from the team.
I think you were left off the team entirely.
I would cut me from the team.
You weren't even on it.
Well, and now that you're out, the umpire doesn't actually say anything and just goes,
Your next teammate just walks up to the plate, doesn't give you props or anything, just goes, sit down because you should.
Oh my god.
So that was my morning.
Oh, that was just today.
That was just today?
I had a better week and morning.
So you just came back from the East Coast.
I did, it's wonderful.
If you're Canadian, you must do it.
If you're not, you also must do it.
It's a wonderful place.
I wanted to show, you know, we could have gone on vacation to other places, but my wife has only been to two Canadian provinces.
She's been to Quebec and lives in Ontario.
That's it.
Wasn't born here.
Born in Scotland.
I'm like, let's go to the East Coast.
And on our first day, we set foot in four different Canadian provinces.
So you took her to New Scotland.
I did.
She's from Old Scotland.
That's right.
Nova Scotia means New Scotland in Gaelic or something.
See, that's me interjecting to be an asshole.
Yeah, toxic shot.
That one I got right, though, because I lived there once.
Have I told you that?
Yes, but you see, it's cold there, and a lot of people find it unpleasant.
Like, imagine if that was the end of it.
Imagine if...
Occasionally it's wintry, so some have said...
They get lots of snow, and one time this old woman fell down.
She was okay, except for the broken hip.
You're tripped out.
I would say the snow plows are not as great there.
Oh, just, ah.
Totally.
The birds must hate it.
Anyway, so we start our morning in Ontario, land in Nova Scotia, drive through New Brunswick,
and end up in PEI on the first day.
That's four Canadian provinces.
Right.
In one day, we drive across the bridge to PEI, which is, it's, I can't believe humans
made it.
It's 13 kilometers.
Isn't it crazy?
How do you build a 13 kilometer bridge?
Wow.
Yeah.
Right?
It's nuts.
It's nuts.
You know what else is nuts?
Once you, free to cross it, by the way, free to cross the bridge, once you come back to
mainland Canada, you know how much the toll is to cross the bridge?
$46.
Well, it's a 13-kilometer bridge.
Kind of makes sense.
Well, so I've heard it's already paid off, eh?
And the locals, like, you figure they would get some kind of nexus pass or, like, some
kind of discount for living on the island?
Mm-mm.
So every time they leave
It's $46
Wow
Oh that's great
That's my understanding
I'm going on the
Word of like two people
Well when you're making that
Cavendish potato money
You are
Cavendish potato
There's a
If you're an American listener
Sorry
They grow potatoes in Cavendish
Who cares about them
And it's orange soil
It's like a reddish orange soil
It's very cool
Yeah
Cause it's got rust in it
I learned that
There you go
So like the first morning
We wake up in PEI
And Mrs. Dangle goes, oh, I want to see the North Shore.
I'm like, jeez, like we just did three hours of driving yesterday.
And the plane ride, I don't want to do much traveling.
It's the 33-minute drive from basically the south to the north.
The entire province, I think, is 45 minutes long.
Something like that.
I mean, you could drive around the edge in like two hours, two and a half hours?
Like if you were to drive around the edge?
I believe it.
It's like the population of Oshawa, the entire island.
And so our first night there, though, I'm skipping something.
We went to this restaurant where they have these ginormous lobsters.
And I'm like, okay, I'm going to get one here.
And then no more on account of it's very expensive and they're giant.
So I'm just sitting there.
My back is facing the sidewalk.
And Mrs. Dangle just goes, look who it is!
Turn around.
It's frigging Mike Babcock.
Crazy.
Just walking by in the street corner.
But, like, everyone else played it totally cool.
and she's like, look who it is! And he just
kind of ignored it. Five minutes
later, there was a guy in a Leafs shirt. I'm like,
surely this guy knows.
And the guy just says to the person
he was sitting with, he's like, did you see who happened
to walk by? That was Mike Babcock.
That was very interesting.
So they just totally play
it cool. A lot of celebrities on that island.
Because, I mean, other than the
fact that it's one of the most
beautiful places on Earth. Because it really is.
It is. It's stunning. I remember
I think Faisal Kamisa was
He's already now.
He's filming with the...
The Phaneufs.
The Phaneufs.
But I remember my friend showed me Phaneufs, the side of Phaneufs' house.
And it's like it's, I mean, from afar.
We didn't walk on the property.
I think I might have driven by it.
Because we were just driving and we're like, oh, I wonder where Dion Phaneuf lives.
And we drove by one house and we were just like, that one.
Yeah.
That is the house of someone who makes over $7 million a year.
Yep.
And has a wife who does like Hollywood movies.
Yep.
They're doing okay.
Yeah, I think they're okay.
relatively affluent family
came back to Halifax
we did something Adam recommended
which was this ridiculous
that is the craziest thing
so I
made sure to do no research
watch no videos of it
I just wanted to experience it
so the tide
we're walking through mud to get to
a raft boat
and I'm like why are we walking through mud
how are we going to go over anything
It's mud.
We're basically walking in mud.
This river is a puddle.
I don't understand.
Why is there a bridge?
Why is it so high?
So the tide comes in like twice a day and just engulfs everything in water.
Like it buries like entire sandbanks, entire islands.
And it's not like...
It's like a tsunami every day.
Yeah, you like...
Like a mini tsunami.
If you were to imagine like if you've ever been to like any other beach, the tide comes
in, it rolls out, but you sort of half notice it like over the course of a few hours, you
actually see a wall of water come towards you.
It's the most ridiculous thing.
It's like, it's cool.
There was an island there, and then it got
completely buried in water, and then the
water went away, and there was a giant tree
there, and then the water came up
again, and then the tree was gone.
And yeah, so you ride that in your boat
and you get smashed, and you
quickly realize it's salt water.
We slid
down this giant hill, got covered in mud.
Oh, it was great. It was really fun.
It's the best. That hill slide is awesome.
I'm glad you guys did.
I think we did the exact same one.
There's several companies that do it, but I think that's because we did the mud slide as well.
If you're going to the East Coast, tidal bowl rafting is the low-key awesome thing to do.
Yes, you have to do it.
There are some other things like kayaking.
There's some caves and stuff you can kayak into and that sort of thing, but tidal bowl rafting, everybody will like.
Everybody will have a good time.
Throw out your clothes afterwards.
They're done.
Yeah, I think I left my shoes.
Yeah, I left my shoes.
They were done for.
Um, and so we decided to do, we rented a car, so we're like, okay, one more driving day
and then we're just going to walk and get drunk for the rest of the trip, which we ended
up doing very successfully.
Went to Peggy's Cove, beautiful, not much more to say there.
Oh, except for we're at the top of Peggy's Cove and some guy rolls down his window and
just goes, Dangle!
We're at like the top of this like remote rock in the, like on the Atlantic coast.
He worked for the country station out there.
Gave me a t-shirt.
It was nice.
Oh, really?
Hashtag free stuff.
That's cool.
Which country?
I don't know which.
Country station in Halifax?
In Halifax?
I think.
Or in Hawkesbury or where?
Well, I was at Peggy's Cove, so.
Oof.
I don't know.
I don't know, man.
One, one, five, I know in Hawkesbury, but I don't know if, because it's 101 point, was
it 101.1?
Anyway, he was very nice.
Yeah, I don't know.
He was very nice.
Country 101 or something?
I don't know.
We go to Coal Harbor to get a picture by the Sidney Crosby sign, and then we're done.
And first of all, we're, like, driving towards it, and we realize, like, it's 4 o'clock on a weekday.
Like, why are we driving through rush hour traffic to take a picture with this stupid sign?
Who cares?
So we take a picture with it, and it says, Congratulations, Sydney, which is different from the time I saw it in 2014 because he's a Stanley Cup champion right now.
The reigning Stanley Cup champion.
So there's a little plaza.
Like, that sign is notoriously, like, right in front of a Walmart.
So you've got to, like, frame the picture so that it's not like, Sydney Crosby and Walmart.
We go into the plaza
There's two pubs there
One is a little bit stabby
The other is a little bit more upscale
So we went to the upscale one
Sitting there, again, with my back to the bar
And Mrs. Dangle looks behind me and goes
That guy behind you looks really familiar
I think he's a hockey player
And I'm just like, okay, who could this be?
Google Nova Scotian NHL players
Turns out there's only seven
So I'm like, okay, well you know what Sidney Crosby looks like
Here's Nathan McKinnon
Here's Brad Marchant
Here's, I already forget the other four.
And she's like, no, no, it's none of them.
It's none of them.
I think it's John Tavares.
Because he looks like you.
Well, I was like, did you think Steve, when SL, when Mrs. Angle texted me,
I'm like, did you think Steve was at another table?
Is that what it was?
What?
How did you get over there?
Steve was at another table and much more attractive right behind Steve.
What the hell?
I don't get it.
And athletic.
I want to date John Tavares is basically what I'm saying.
Anyway, I put on my jacket and see what a date yourself. Yes, I do. Okay, and I very stealthily looked
Yeah, it was John Tavares. There you go. Couldn't escape it
Friday didn't go over
No, I didn't want to bug him
No, I I have hey John selfie video real quick, can you say Sidney Crosby's to Stanley Cup champion?
Sorry, can you say Phil Kessels a Stanley Cup champion? Let's do it again for my podcast
You can tell everyone to smash that like button
Do you know the difference between Toxic Shock
And that other thing that Adam mentioned
Smash that like button
I figured it out
You know when artists do drops
Like when you listen to Kiss
You hear like hey this is Justin Bieber
We need to get
Hockey players to say
Hey you're listening to the Steve Dangle podcast
And don't forget to smash that like button
Just to make
The cringiest
Just to see the reaction to it.
Instead of smash that like button, we should tell them all that we have a different tagline each time.
Hey, this is John Tavares.
You're listening to the Steve Dangle Podcast.
Let's get crazy.
Hey, this is Phil Kessel.
And you know when a hockey player would be like, let's get crazy.
You're listening to the Steve Dangle Podcast.
Waka waka.
Phil Kessel would be like, waka waka.
You're listening to the Steve Dangle Podcast, right?
But the idea of asking.
I'm Norm Macdonald from Wisconsin. Sorry. The idea of asking the athletes to do that. It's kind of like I don't want to bother you
No, I used I know it's I used to have to do it for the junior
No, but if they ever came in for an interview, we'd have to get them to do liners for us and
I want to just quickly bring up the Coal Harbor sign
Okay, and I commented on this on your Instagram, but I found Coal Harbor to be a little passive-aggressive. Oh, yes
Congratulations Sydney
Quote we proudly await the cup
And unquote and then exclamation mark
Which by the way is bad grammar
The exclamation mark goes inside
The parenthesis
Also
We proudly await the cup is like
Your family member like I can't wait to see
Your wedding ring haven't seen it
Or it'll be great to
Finally see you at Christmas
Yeah and then there was a
Listener who commented on your page
in response to me and said, who are they quoting?
I'm like, you're right.
Who are they quoting?
Are they actually quoting themselves?
Like, like, Coal Harbor.
Congratulations, Sydney.
We proudly await the cup.
Coal Harbor.
Once again, it's just kind of a nice sign.
Okay.
And you decided to ruin it with your grammar, politics, and garbage.
There's actually a show called Adam Ruins Everything, which you should watch.
It's a guy who just...
I'm watching it right now.
Anyway, sorry.
Then we had a meetup at HFX Sports in Halifax, where...
Which I think used to be the Palace, which was a place you didn't go.
Oh, well, I also walked by the Dome, which is a place you also don't go.
You definitely go.
And I got presents.
Oh.
Presents from...
Oh, that's my park pass.
A few people, but one guy in particular named Zach, who we called Berkshire 2.0.
Because he wore, like, a Berkshire shirt.
Did his hair like Berkshire.
I just started calling him Berkshire until halfway through the night I went,
sorry, what's your real name?
Wow.
His name is Zach.
I believe this is yours.
Whoa.
This is mine.
Where's Jesse's?
Jesse, you do have something.
Oh, and this is yours, Jesse.
Holy.
Tell the radio podcast people what it is.
So I'm going to read the inscription first, and it's a little note from McInnes Cooper Lawyers.
So I guess Zach is an intelligent Berkshire.
as well, which I guess would match the Berkshire
profile. Adam, I just wanted to let you know
how much I appreciate the hard work and
all you guys put into keeping us fans
connected. Wow. Zach, so it's a
picture of Matt Sundin on draft day
autographed. Yeah.
Wow. Oh, shit.
That's pretty cool with the Quebec Nord.
That's going in a place of honor
in my house. Zach, thank you.
Wow. I got one. It's an autographed
picture of James Reimer.
Did it cost less or more than $60?
If it costs less, I'm going to laugh.
No, there's a price tag here.
It costs $2,000 because he's an amazing goalie.
Right, right.
Eat garbage.
And then Jesse got something really interesting, but I forget.
This is cool as shit.
So maybe explain.
So it's a medallion from the 1984 Canada Cup.
What?
I think he said he thinks it might be silver.
He says there are very few put into circulation.
Oh, my God.
Mm-hmm.
So it's pretty rare.
I think it might be Soviet.
It's even got the old Soviet Union flag on it.
Well, that's the thing.
It's got all the flags on it, and then there's one that's just three horizontal lines, and
I'm like, well, there's no color.
Germany.
What country is that?
Yeah, I figured it was Germany.
Because it couldn't be Russia, because that wasn't a thing.
And it wouldn't be the Netherlands either, because they're not up there.
Can I read the note?
Yes.
Oh, yeah, please.
First of all, I wanted to give you a little something to show my appreciation for all
the hard work you put into getting the podcast up each week.
I know it's nothing huge, but I thought you might like this medallion.
It's from the 1984 Canada Cup.
To my knowledge, there weren't very many put into circulation.
I could very well be wrong, but I didn't see many on eBay.
That is a good sign.
I hope you like it.
All the best, Zach.
And then there's a PS on the back that says, you and Adam, roadie to Halifax.
Next time, get your asses down here to be a tourist with Steve.
We'd love to have you.
We do need to roadie to Halifax.
Maybe we go next summer.
Maybe.
I think, I've been thinking for a while that we need to do like a tour.
Yeah.
No, no, I'm serious.
I think we need to do a tour.
Like a bar tour.
Taggart and Torrance do it.
And I talked to Jonathan about that.
Yeah, the bots.
The bots.
And they said, you know, it's relatively easy to put together.
I should talk to, I should just message Jonathan.
Because Jonathan and I go way back.
We rent an RV.
Two years ago.
We get some ones.
And we get some onesies.
And we tour the whole country, buddy.
Some cold ones.
Some ones.
I just call them ones.
We call them ones.
Nobody knows what you're talking about by the way
When you say ones because that was an inside joke
From Nashville so now you gotta let everyone in
So instead of cold ones guys
It's ones
And then I got a bunch of cards from a gentleman
Named Isaiah
Which I mean we're not gonna go through each one
Individually on the show but
Supposedly this is an authentic
Card from which year
Which when does it say
No it's Red Kelly and
Supposedly it's an actual one from 57
1957
I have like reprints of cards like these
But like supposedly this is an actual one
And I repeatedly over and over again
I was like I can't accept this
I can't accept this
Supposedly he's a huge collector
He was telling me about some of the stuff in his collection
He's got like a
I go
Do you have a Sidney Crosby Young Guns?
Which that's a Crosby rookie card
That's like I think it's worth like a thousand dollars now
He's like oh I got that in high gloss
And I'm like holy smokes
And this one is a graded 1974 Topps Don Cherry Boston Bruins card.
Look at that tash.
Look at that duster.
I know you said we wouldn't go through them, but there's not that many.
We could definitely go through them.
Oh, okay.
Three to name.
Three to name is quick.
I mean, there were no trades, so.
Signed Komarov.
Jim Benning.
Ah, Bim Jenning.
Nathan McKinnon.
Ovi.
Jim Benning in a Leafs jersey, by the way.
Oh, Jim Benning played for the Leafs.
I forgot.
How fitting.
How fitting that Jim Benning played for the Leafs in the 80s.
Wow.
Wow.
Handsome young man.
39 assists in 83-84.
Did you guys see that Star Wars thing where everything was replaced?
Yes, literally what we were doing.
Wow.
That's so amazing.
All right, what else?
What else we got?
That's it.
Oh, okay.
Demanding.
You came in with a whole bag of stuff, and I was like...
Oh, no, that's full of shirts, because we're going to shoot the next wave of 100-100.
Okay, so I just got to say, I'm always blown away by stuff like this, and thank you.
Thank you, Zach.
Oh, those are mine, though.
Thank you, Isaiah.
No, I know, but it's just cool to even hold them.
Let's not get confused, Adam.
No, they belong with you.
They should be with you.
This is before, like, Scott Morrison did a piece on when Red Kelly got traded, and I
believe they actually, if I'm not mistaken, I hope I'm not getting the network wrong here.
I'm pretty sure.
I'm pretty sure
they talked to a guy
who emailed, or not emailed
sent a letter to Red Kelly
who's a Detroit Red Wings fan
Red Kelly was going to retire because Jack Adams
was being a dick as all
owners back in the day used to be
oh you don't want to play for me? well you can't play for anyone then
and Jack Adams was
a notoriously tough SOB
he really was
and so I guess
it was Punch Imlach
that called and said
We'll buy a mafia
And this kid couldn't understand
How Red Kelly could retire
Or not play for the Red Wings
He was crushed by it
And I guess Red Kelly's wife
Wrote him a letter back
So now, later on, this guy's an old man
Red Kelly and his wife are still alive
And they bring him to the house to meet them
And it's amazing
It's really amazing
I suggest you look that up
It's really cool
They've done a bunch of really cool features recently
Amazing that a story like that would even happen
How would you find out about that?
Right like you'd have to know someone who knew someone because it wasn't in the papers. It wasn't you know
It wasn't this kid that sent like an open letter. It's not a blog post. It was a letter directly to red Kelly's house
You just yeah, excuse me, mr. Kelly telegram. Yeah, right back in the day anyway, and
Someone there. I'm not sure who it was. They told me this really neat story and again
I'm gonna bring it into depressing, you know, that deer could have died territory, but their grandfather was in palliative care and he was a huge
He's a huge Red Wings fan, and I guess they sent a letter or an email, because it was
not that long ago, to the Red Wings, basically saying he's a huge fan, it would mean a lot
to him, et cetera, et cetera.
So they sent him artifacts from Joe Louis Arena.
I think Henrik Zetterberg wrote him something, sent him autographed pictures, and I don't
know, it was just really cool.
That's great.
And just thought it would give a classy organization the show that they deserve.
And they deserve that.
That's amazing.
I love that stuff because it's that extra little bit those organizations do.
And I tell you, even when I was, I think, 20 or whatever, the Leafs followed me on Twitter
as they did everyone at the time, and I didn't know this.
And I see the Toronto Maple Leafs followed you.
I was like, oh, so cool.
And they probably unfollowed you now, and that means they hate you.
No, it's because they probably shouldn't just follow everyone.
Well, that was the prevailing thought at the time.
I remember social media.
I don't think it was.
social media experts in the radio station
that I worked at who said you need to follow
every listener back and I said no
you don't and they're like no
you don't know
23 year old
me 45 year old
knows is a social media expert
how long had social media been
around at that point? 5 years I'm like
I actually said I remember
how many seminars have you been to kid
so I said
I have been to 3
45 minute seminars
And I know
Sorry, holy shit
That has haunted me my entire career
I remember
Staring down this consultant
That the company had paid a ton of money for
And the consultant said to me
No, you have to follow everyone back
And I said, but if they don't add any value to me
I use Twitter for information
For news
I said, if they're just tweeting about
Joe Jonas
Then that's not really helpful to me
and then you have to remember this is before the mute button right
and
and so I'm like I don't need to
follow everybody back right I don't like
it's fine and I said by the way
even if they listen to the station they don't have to
follow me like it's okay like that's fine
if they want to tweet me every once in a while and they don't follow me
cool whatever follow or don't follow
that's fine and they're like oh no
no and not only
do you need to follow them back but you need to DM
them and thank them each of them
I'm like I have
at this point
three and a half thousand followers
which was a lot to me at the time
how am I going to write three and a half thousand
messages? I uh on my old
Facebook profile
so I had a Steve Daniel Facebook profile
before it turned into a page
and I actually used to say thanks for the ad
to every single person
and it took forever
it took a very long time
but then here's why you don't do that
is once you stop doing that
people get upset
People get upset, and, hey, I noticed you're not my friend anymore.
Well, no, because it wouldn't let me have both, so I had to make it a page.
Whatever, Steve, I understand that we're not friends anymore.
Son of a bitch.
Yeah, I'm going to unlike you.
Take your lace and shove them up your ass.
Yeah.
What?
I'm just trying to be nice to you.
I know, man.
Yeah, it's, I told a social media person that, I told that social media person, I'm like,
you I said it the idea that you're an expert on this I said is is I mean how can you justify that
I said this is not yeah I said how can it be I was really difficult but I was I was right
but I was also right listen if oh there are plenty of things I'm right about that I keep to myself
I said to them like it's been around I'm like Twitter's been around since like what 2007 2008
I'm like
I said it's 2012
where do you think we're at
I'm like
you don't know
where this is going
I don't know
where this is going
I said but I can tell you
something
I've grown up with this
oh my god
I wish I was in this
and well
it's part
I would have been like
Jesse Pinkman
you have to remember
that like too
it was like
my co-host
Denae was like
she's the sweetheart
right like the best
but does not like conflict
and would tell you that
yeah
and she was like
every time I would like
raise hell
she would be like
can you fuck
Can you not?
Can you just say yes and just move on?
She's like, you don't have to do it.
Just say yes.
And I'm like, no, I can't.
I can't.
I have to stand for something.
I have to die on every goddamn hill, which is something you do in your early 20s, which
you learn as you get a little bit older.
Maybe don't die on every hill.
Maybe don't die as often.
Speaking of which, I do want to say, Steve, I think you made the right decision in the
second week of July.
You did one thing that I think was absolutely brilliant.
Was this before?
This is the week you did.
This was this week.
This past week.
Oh, okay.
You went on vacation?
I went on vacation.
Bingo.
Oh.
Bingo.
Did you want to go on vacation?
Well, yes.
But I want to say this.
Hockey Twitter, as of the second week of July, needs to go on vacation.
Yeah.
I'm not saying this to hurt anyone's feelings.
All right.
Put it down.
Walk away.
And walk away.
And go do what?
Go have a walk.
You know what's something when you're a certain age?
You don't want something.
You know something's coming.
I'm old as shit.
Let me drop some knowledge.
Let me drop some knowledge.
You know what sounds like a total waste of time?
That was the verbal.
I'm going to hike up my pants and say something.
All right.
No-no's coming.
Listen, kids.
Hey, first of all, none-no.
None-no, right, right.
It's coming.
Going for a walk is all right.
Especially in the summer when it's warm.
Sometimes, man.
Canadians, we're not used to that.
Do you have a dog?
Go walk your dog.
Go play fetch with them.
With Spot?
Go with Spot.
A little Spike can tag along, too.
Yeah, maybe you got a second one.
Rex?
Or how about this?
Do anything but tweet about random bullshit.
You don't need to.
Also, if it's more than three tweets, it's an article.
Write it.
I don't have a blog.
Start one.
I don't have money for one.
Start a free one.
Do anything but tweets.
Stop it.
Chill. It's funny. I saw people fighting just every now and then and just kind of went, huh.
Someone tried to use that on me a couple weeks ago.
They were like, you know, Adam, that's four tweets. You could have made that into a blog.
I'm like, no one is putting me on a blog. Like, that's ridiculous.
I think you could.
Well, I appreciate that, but I don't know.
It also depends how cantankerous you're being about the tweets.
Well, yeah. Now, the one I want, I'm going to specifically bring up.
But I think this is a, it's a situation that came out of basically nothing.
Okay.
That turned into a war.
Because I actually don't know what any of the conflicts were about.
This is going to be, that's why I know.
Because I know you weren't paying attention and I know Jesse's like, Jesse is like, I'm
going to stay out of that.
Yeah.
Because Jesse's smart.
This was great.
So when we went on our honeymoon, I told people we're going to California.
When we went to Scotland, I told people we're going to Scotland and we're also going to
Amsterdam.
This time I said, we're going on vacation.
We actually took a vacation
Mrs. Dangle did a very smart thing
Because she knows I want to meet everybody
She goes, you get one night
One night where you get to say
Hey everyone, let's meet here
And we'll have a great time
And we did, and it was a wonderful time
And I know you met a guy that couldn't be there, Joey
Early for coffee because he couldn't be there
Joey Halifaxwell
You met Joey Halifaxwell?
You've met him before
Oh yeah, but you met him in Halifax
I met Joey Halifaxwell
in Halifax, well
and it was Halifax
swell, you see, because
he's on his game, he's had a vacation
oh, I feel so recharged
I had a nice, I know, I'm sorry
I know, I know, I'm just giving you that
it was a great, great vacation
now let's ruin it, because you stepped away
right, it's important to step away
what you get when you step away, Dmitry Filipovich had a good one too
what did he say?
he was basically just like, everyone, hockey twitter
is the absolute worst, go outside
Here, look at me.
And he's, like, drinking on a beach.
Go on a date.
Go make out with someone.
Like, do something.
Something.
God, please.
Go have a hot dog.
Go do the simplest thing.
You know that flavor of chips?
You're always like, I'd like to try that, but you haven't yet.
Go have a whole bag to yourself.
If you don't like it.
Who doesn't have the chips when they see there's a bag I want?
Jesse, there's a lot of people that are scared to step outside their comfort zone.
Not everybody is Jesse Blake.
Okay.
Also, some people.
The adventurous Jesse Blake, as you're known.
Yes.
Some people were raised as ravenous food-motivated fat kids, like me, and it wasn't, you know
what I did with my first paycheck?
I think it was most children, yeah.
My first paycheck from McDonald's was $22, and I went to the store and bought a box of
Trix, because my parents used to never buy Trix, because it was too sugary and bullshit.
That's how food-motivated I was.
When I first got my license, the first or second place I drove to was Krispy Kreme
Donuts.
Oh.
Because you know what?
Freedom!
Yes, isn't it great?
Be like that except older yes step away from Twitter step away from Twitter
Well, it's too beautiful the one I want to tell you because Jesse Jesse would just ignore this but of course
I'm like because I'm just hanging out. I'm like okay
What is this debate about and I had to get so when you see something stupid pop up you're like
What's the root of this that's at least that's how my brain goes. What is the genesis? No no no
I read the Twitter fight. I did not get into it. I saw someone tweet
It's like maybe go outside instead of arguing about whether or not Oscar Clefbom is the 15th best or 75th best
Like we are
What are we doing do you know the name Julius Honka
Yeah, he's um. He's been traded a few times. Who's he with now the flames tell me who he's with
I think he was drafted by the Stars.
I think I spoke to him at an Upper Deck event.
Steve.
I don't know, man.
Who's he with?
That's the point.
You just said it.
I don't know, man, who he's with.
A relatively insignificant player at this moment.
Yes, because Julius Honka, depending upon who you ask, is a B, A-minus, maybe prospect.
Probably a B prospect.
I want to say he ended up in Calgary and was traded to Ottawa.
He's in Dallas.
He's still in Dallas.
Never mind.
So who am I thinking?
He might have been traded.
I'm thinking of Yoki Paka.
Okay.
Who has definitely been traded.
Yoki Paka, yeah.
Now, interestingly, Tyler Dello, for some reason, and I'm not really sure what, as part
of another point, mentioned that he didn't think Julius Honka was going to be a legitimate
NHL player.
Here, before you continue.
What day was this?
This was like Monday last week when Steve left.
July 8th.
I know.
I'm pretty sure it was like in there.
I remember.
One more thing before you continue, I promise.
Not only should you not die on every hill, but you should be very aware of weight class.
I am aware.
Okay, you know what?
Some people can die on every hill.
And one of them is named Tyler Dello.
Yes.
And he will fuck you up on each of those hills.
Because Tyler Della has energy and the knowledge.
He will debate you into the ground and then bike to Jeff Merricks' house.
But it's the middle of July, and I'm sure it was hot that day.
Why are you tweeting about a guy who's third pairing on Dallas?
He was trying to make a point, and the thing was it wasn't Tyler that started this.
It was every Stars fan that followed Tyler that said,
excuse me
Julius Honka
is the next
blah-biddy-blah-biddy-blah
and it just
blew up from there
and the first guy
was like
well you're obviously
that's coming from a guy
who's never watched him
because I was at
I don't even know
Dallas' farm team name
and I was at
Texas Stars I believe
I think so yeah
I was at every Texas game
and he was a standout
every game
and Tyler Dello
as he does
every time someone
gives him the
eye test argument
he goes
well clearly there are
things that you can't
see with your eyes
that the numbers are showing us.
And it's not, I don't think he means it disrespectfully,
it's just the truth.
Here's what the numbers are showing us.
You never know until you see them in the National Hockey League.
Because I saw Neil Yakupov in the OHL.
I would have told you he's the first overall pick.
You know who I thought was going to be the best Leaf ever?
Tim Stapleton.
Never happened.
Great KHL player, though.
Holy smokes, he's one of those guys, like a Simone Gamache.
Just a demon in every league he played in, except for the show.
Right.
Just one of those guys.
But I thought for sure, I'm like, Tim Stapleton, remember the name.
So Tyler gets locked.
Remember the name, Tim Stapleton.
Tyler, I think in a sequence of like two or three tweets, starts an utter shitstorm.
And it's not, again, it is not Tyler.
It is a bunch of people going, excuse me, sir, and coming in and I thought.
Well, that's like all the grief I got for saying the Stars were ridiculous for signing
Ante Niemi.
I remember I got a bunch of fans going, how dare you?
Look at him now.
I think he's still an NHL player, Steve.
Yeah, in Pittsburgh.
So anyway, that started.
And then the tweets about the argument started because thankfully there's a lot of people
within the hockey Twitter community that have a pretty damn good sense of humor.
So my favorite tweet I read was like, do you remember where you were when the Honka Wars
started?
and all that. And I had to
actually message Jeff Veyette and ask him
how did this start? And he's like, actually it was something
that Dello tweeted that really didn't
have much to do with any of this.
I've been following this since the very beginning.
And I...
Glad you asked.
I have an Excel spreadsheet
and I would like to explain
first of all
actually, I could show you
on this chart
but shh.
This person sent the most tweets
But this person actually made the most impact.
This person had the toughest quality of competition.
And as you can see, they all took place in July.
That's this.
He said to me, he's like, listen, man.
I think it was a lot.
He said, I'm paraphrasing, but he said, listen, of the hills that I'm willing to die on.
And he's like, and there are many.
This is not one of them.
He's like, this is not an argument that I'm, this is not a fight I'm going to.
But he's going to track it.
Ridiculous.
Well, no, he just, he knows, right?
And he's still posting articles.
Anyway, it made me laugh because he was like, this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.
And he's seen, those guys have seen ridiculous shit.
With all due respect to Jeff, and we've had this conversation, me and him, recently.
If Jeff thinks you're being too extra on Twitter.
Yeah, that's what I mean.
If Jeff thinks you need to take a step back.
Jeff is right.
You need to throw your phone in the ocean.
And if you're not near one, drive to the ocean and throw it in.
Flush it, throw it down a sewer grate, burn your phone to ash, put it in a microwave and watch it explode.
And what makes great hockey minds is great discourse, which is why guys like Dello are great,
because they present an argument that isn't always popular and then they back it up.
Jeff does the same thing.
My point in this is that that's awesome, but how about taking six weeks off?
Other than what happened at rookie camp, which is really inconsequential anyway,
you know okay so Timothy Lilligren
came in and he skates really well okay well
it's just fucking shock of the world
I don't understand
why we just don't put it down
and I think it's because maybe we're in the
we're in the habit of always looking at it
but for me next year
when Caprice and I
are somewhat doing like a honeymoon slash 30th
birthday for you know we're gonna
go to California as well
I was just telling me where I'm going
we're gonna step away from
Caprice and I are going to step away from our phones and Twitter
Second week of July
Because you know what?
If you get in these arguments now
You're going to be exhausted come September
When you need to have these arguments
September, October
That's when you want to be refreshed
That's when you want to be fired up
And that's when the arguments actually start to take shape and matter
Because things are actually happening
Nothing is happening right now
Except for the fact that Tyler Bozak
Put his condo up for sale
Which may or may not mean anything
It might just mean that nobody wants to live with a kid in a condo if you have the option.
But if you run a Leafs website, and there is no Leafs news, and you see that pop up...
No! Oh, I get it. It's a story.
Worth it.
Listen, story.
Worth it. Not worth a lot, but put it up.
Exactly. And it's not like anybody's...
Nobody's saying, oh, he's going to be traded.
I don't think that that's the case.
But it's interesting.
This was an argument I used to have with Cam Chiron.
I can't remember if he was still the managing editor of Leafs Nation, or I was,
but he still wrote for the site.
and it was basically like the Marlies made a signing or something like that
or the Leafs made a signing but it was like mostly a minor league deal.
And I was like emailing or group DM whatever the Leafs Nation group
and I was like, here, can someone get this?
And he messaged me back.
He's like, why does anyone need to get this?
This isn't news.
No one cares about this person.
I'm like, we run a Leafs site.
It does.
And now look at him.
He works for the Leafs.
Yeah, he's making those signings.
Helping to.
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
Um, I wonder if he goes into like MLSC meetings and goes, why does anyone care about this
guy from the ECHL?
Do we care?
No.
And you know what he's doing?
Probably chilling.
Yeah.
Probably chilling.
Cause you know what?
Those guys have to take time off too.
Notice all the reporters are off right now.
Oh, they're gone.
It's a ghost town.
Because they need to be refreshed cause the season's grueling.
So just everybody relax.
That's why a Julius Honka conversation rises to the top.
That would get buried in the middle of the season.
No one would care.
True.
But it rises to the top because there's nothing else.
Guess what?
Bozak's condo's for sale?
What?
What?
Like, I saw a Montreal Canadiens fan tweet the other day, and it was talking about how
Montreal is better than Toronto, and then it lined up all the players on Montreal and
compared them all.
So, so-and-so is better than...
Is this the guy who said Max Pacioretty is better than Kapanen?
Kasperi Kapanen?
Like, that was a fair comparable?
I'm like, well, yeah.
Of course, I would expect Max Pacioretty to be better than Kapanen.
Kapanen, who's played, what, 25 games in the NHL?
Oh, fewer than that, I think.
I would hope Max Pacioretty's better.
And he suspiciously left, I think, Nylander and Matthews off the list.
But I found it.
I just am like, tweets like that.
Chris Letang, better than Renat Valiev.
What?
Sorry.
It's tweets like that, you're right, that rise to the top.
So everybody, everybody.
I mean, there's a reason why we haven't talked much hockey news.
Because Tyler Bozak's condo is for sale.
It might mean he's getting traded.
Probably means he's just buying a house, man.
That's probably what's going on.
And by the way, in the housing market, which I'm quite familiar with, a condo like that
is going to take six months to a year to move.
So it's not, oh yeah.
I mean, it's in the, if you're up over $2 million, it's a very specific niche market.
It took Kessel, I think, eight or nine months to sell his.
I remember that, yeah.
Because how many people can afford a $4 million anything?
Yeah.
Right?
And you want to, you're going to take-
His condo was $4 million?
Well, Kessel's was.
Oh.
I think Tyler's is two.
It's in the Trump Tower.
Well, he does make about half as much as Kessel's.
But I think...
Oh, how dare you.
Oh my goodness.
You know what?
You should tweet it.
Is Tyler Bozak half the player that Phil Kessel was?
Tweet it.
Just to see what happens.
We'll read out the fire as it happens live.
I would love that.
But...
Go ahead.
So that would take a while to move.
So it's not, when you see condo up for sale, don't think of it as in your condo is up for
sale in the $300,000 to $400,000 range, which will go quickly, at least in Toronto it will.
In terms of multi-million dollar condos, most people who have that much money would rather
buy a house.
So you're going to a specific market of people who are like, no, not only do I have $10 million
in the bank, but I want a condo downtown.
His life has changed kind of abruptly over the past few years.
He was literally living with Phil Kessel and playing video games
To now he has
A spouse and child
What's his kid's name again?
Cannon
K-A-N-O-N
Cannon Bozak
That's a great name
That's a strong name
Left winger
What was a cannon?
Bozak shot out of a cannon down the wing
Imagine the headlines
Passes to Kessel
Junior Kessel
Kessel Jew
No, June
Kess
Wouldn't it be like JR or something?
I don't know
What would Kessel name his kid?
Phil
I think it's Phil Jew
Gino, after his liney
Gino Kessel
Gino
You name him Gino
I think you would name him Gino
Especially after the fights they had in the playoffs
Speaking of him
You would name his kid Move the Fucking Puck
I guess we should
No that would be the middle name
Gino Move the Fucking Puck Kessel
Why are the Penguins trying to trade Phil Kessel
No okay
So that was another thing that I saw
And then just ignored
Wasn't one columnist basically going
They might
And then Elliot Friedman said
And this is where credence comes for me.
Elliott Freeman said, I can see that they would be exploring that.
We also have to mourn the death of 30 Thoughts.
Well, no, we don't.
It's coming back.
It's done.
The hibernation of 30 Thoughts.
No, it's done forever.
No, because Elliott put hockey Twitter down.
No, there will literally never be another 30 Thoughts.
That was literally the last one.
Next season, it will be 31 Thoughts.
Because there's going to be 31 teams.
So he's adding a thought.
This was literally the last ever 30 Thoughts.
Wow.
And, yeah, I had never realized there were 30 thoughts because it was 30 teams.
I was about to say, I just realized that.
Thank you for bringing that up.
Yeah, so if nobody knew, there's 30 thoughts.
I was like, why does he have 30?
Like, I questioned that for years and never thought, hey, maybe I should ask that question.
I am so stupid.
Me too.
Toxic shock syndrome.
Anyway.
I am toxic shocked.
Oh, that's so terrible.
So you feel stupid about that.
And then I'm like, is that, I don't know, is that like a childbirth thing?
Yeah.
So I was wrong.
I didn't even know what it was.
Are the Tampa Bay Lightning, no, hold on.
Start with Phil Kessel.
We'll get to Lightning in a second.
Phil Kessel.
Better fit.
Phil Kessel.
Obviously the Pens are up against the Cap.
We knew they would be in Cap hell.
Phil Kessel.
They're a good team.
Phil Kessel, though, in the last, I'm going to read something out to you.
Oh, yeah, this is crazy.
This one I saw.
In the last two playoffs, Phil Kessel finished first in goals on the Pens, first in power
play goals.
So he had 18 goals, 10 of them were power play goals, first in both, shots, 165 over
two playoffs.
In the playoffs!
Yeah.
People don't get that in the regular season!
And he was a plus 17 rating, if you care.
If you care.
Wow!
Holy shit.
He's pretty good.
That's sort of a big deal.
You know, the one thing I friggin' nailed when he was traded, I said, Penguins, Penguins
fans, Phil Kessel, playoff Phil Kessel is a treat.
He was great in the playoffs for Toronto.
He's the treat.
Now, they want to trade him.
If you retain salary on Phil Kessel, then the Penguins and the Leafs are paying Phil Kessel not to play for them.
Can you do that?
I think you can.
You can retain twice.
It's so bizarre that it would happen to him, though, because they did that with Rob Scuderi.
Phil Kessel is legitimately amazing.
And he's legitimately worth six point whatever they're paying him.
Do they not have the cap space?
That's, yeah, they're in tight, I think.
What's their situation?
I'd have to pull up to Cap Friendly, and even in the middle of the summer,
it's sort of like you don't really fully know.
Right.
Fair enough.
Well, I mean, if you look at what the Penguins have coming up,
the wing is the easiest position to replace.
Oh, here we go.
Well, projected cap space, 10.3, but, okay, what are they missing?
They got 12 forwards locked up.
Connor Sheery's an RFA.
That might be a mess.
Brian Dumoulin is an RFA.
That might be a mess.
They got Murray and Niemi.
That's a nice cheap duo in there.
Daniel Sprong is an interesting option they got coming up.
So there's a potential Phil Kessel replacement down the line.
Obviously
I would assume Jake Gensel would be a full timer
Next season
I don't know
Yeah I don't know
Well and let's not forget they just added the
Production of
Ryan Reeves
So I don't know
Imagine Phil Kessel gets traded
And Ryan Reeves gets blamed for it
Just because
Connor Sheery plus Brian Dumoulin
Plus a few guys
with rookie bonuses, I don't think
is going to add up to 10.3 million.
So here's the, I don't know
what the rumor is.
I don't know.
I mean, the fact that, first off, it's a big deal that
Rick Tockett left. Because Rick Tockett
is supposedly the
first guy who has ever
successfully managed Kessel and got
the best out of him because
Kessel has the respect for
Rick. Horseshit. Horseshit.
Apparently their relationship
was close because Rick was a player and
understands and then understands how to coach a player.
Imagine what they could have done with him when he was a
point-of-game player with the Leafs. Like, imagine what they
could have done. I don't know. Imagine what they could
have done when he had six points
in seven games. It's funny that
Kessel never gets credit for being
really good. The best Leaf of his era.
No, it's crazy.
What utter horseshit. What utter
trash. So there's rumors of Mark Reckie
coming in.
Oh, no. Mark Reckie is
in and that he'll take
the lead with guiding Kessel as an assistant coach.
Oh.
Okay. So, I mean,
and there are... Well, the guy
who allegedly once
asked the refs to give
his teammate, Sidney
Crosby, a penalty. Wow, really?
Because he was being such a pain in the ass. Yeah, that was the story I heard.
When he was a rookie. And Craig
Morgan tweeted that there were
some Kessel to Coyote rumors,
but I cannot see how anybody would
have actually believed them, and he said, they're just rumors,
everybody.
Look, I get it
I mean, he seems like a cantankerous
personality, but he also seems like his
teammates love him, and his production
has dipped since he's
become a penguin
What are you talking about?
Whatever
I can't believe we still have to
justify Phil Kessel to people
Larry Brooks dropped a whole lot of
What does he have to do?
Who? Kessel? Yeah, what does he have to do?
I was moving on, but, uh...
Well, yeah, you're right. No, I'm sorry.
I just want to know. He's got two cups.
Probably should've got a Conn Smythe
in there. Number one in all those
categories. What does he gotta do?
Aside from rip
his face off and replace it with
Jonathan Taves', like, what does he
have to do to earn anyone's respect?
Holy fuck. Yeah.
I mean, listen, I agree, and
uh, I mean, what
What I was trying to figure out is if the Pens do have the room, why trade them?
Well, I don't know.
It looks like they have the room.
Also, I mean, they could easily win again.
Again.
So I don't think – at some point it might make sense to trade them, for sure.
He's locked up for a long time.
Now?
No, I don't think so.
I don't think so, no.
I mean, you got Ryan Reeves.
You're clearly all in.
So I would say keep him.
Anyway, yeah.
So Larry Brooks has put out some really odd stuff recently.
Larry Brooks of the New York Post.
What are you saying, Brooksie?
Well, and this is where – so first off, I was sent a tweet before you left, and it said, what do you think of the Tyler Bozak to the New York Rangers rumors?
And I said, what?
Never heard that at all.
So this listener pointed me in the direction of the Larry Brooks New York Post column from a couple weeks ago.
And he suggested that, well, you know, he'd be a great fit for the, you know,
win now New York Rangers, and any trade to get him would have to involve Nick Holden.
Oh.
A 30-year-old left-handed defenseman, Nick Holden?
To go with all the other left-handed shot defensemen that we have?
Wasn't he a Leaf once upon a time?
I have no idea.
There's been a few Holdens.
I was like, so...
What?
Yeah, that's what I mean.
None of it made sense.
And it's almost like sometimes Larry Brooks puts out stuff,
And I don't doubt that he has sources.
I don't.
But sometimes I'm like, dude, are you looking at the other team?
Why would the Leafs want Nick Holden on the left side?
That's just one of those very easy cut-and-paste rumors.
Like, the Rangers lost Derek Stepon.
Tyler Bozak could replace him for less money.
The Leafs need defense.
This guy plays defense.
Oh, matchmaker!
This guy plays defense for cheap because he's not very good.
Now, it's like saying, well, Dan Girardi would be a great fit somewhere else.
Anywhere else.
TJ Brennan.
He does say this, so take this with a grain of salt.
I'm sure he wasn't saying that's the whole trade, but anyway.
Elliot Friedman has also pondered this.
Are the Tampa Bay Lightning a landing spot for John Tavares?
I did see that, and it ruined my vacation.
I feel like they're like the new Golden State Warriors.
A little bit.
Ooh, I saw that ESPYs clip with Peyton Manning.
He was talking about some volleyball team or whatever.
Like, oh, they had such a dominant year that Kevin Durant is thinking about signing with them.
That's funny.
And they put the camera on him, and he wasn't happy.
He wasn't happy at all.
Whatever, they won.
How on earth could Tampa Bay lock up my lunchmate slash dinner mate, John Tavares?
Slash twin.
Slash Don Tavares.
Yeah, doppelganger.
So he got Tyler Johnson at 7 years times 5 million.
Great deal, by the way.
Andre Palat, 5 years at 5.3.
Not a bad deal.
Pretty reasonable, right?
He's got $3.25 million going underneath the cap.
The Lightning are $3.25 million.
How?
Exactly how?
That Phil Palat contract sucked.
Yeah, it does.
That really freed up a lot for them.
And that Killorn contract, imagine they hadn't signed that.
how much better shape they'd be.
Unless he has a rebound year.
They shaved off Filippola and Boyle.
So there's, yes, you're down two centers,
but what is that, 7.5 million it freed up?
And as long as TJ can stay healthy.
And Bishop.
They shaved off a lot, man.
The one question is, can Vasilevsky do it
as a full-time starter?
And if he gets hurt, can Budai do it again?
Kucherov and Stralman are up.
Can Stamkos play a full season?
Can Stamkos' bones not go all super, Dave?
Kucherov and Strowman are up in 2019
so could they make a real run for it
interesting
well absolutely
where
I don't know where the cap space is coming from
I mean you make the moves
to get the cap space but
no no
you can't John Tavares is going to make 9 or 10
million dollars at least
so you got to clear 7 or 8 of that
it's a lot
first of all John Tavares should be allowed to legally
kick his agent in the balls
for the amount... What does he make? 5.5?
Yeah, that's crazy. He should be able
to, like, steel-toe his agent
in the balls.
As if... Like, Austin Matthews
is being rumored to make 10 million bucks
on his next deal. John Tavares
is going to make less than that?
No.
So how the hell? How is Tampa...
No. I don't understand how that makes
sense. Once they get Dan Girardi
off the books, or extend him for 6
million bucks per... Well, imagine they hadn't signed Dan Girardi.
They'd have 6 million dollars.
Call up anybody!
You madmen!
What are you doing?
So those are just a couple of rumors floating around right now.
Rob Davidson, former NHLer, replaces Gord Dineen on the Marlies.
Staff as an assistant coach.
Someone pointed this out to me on Twitter.
You know why that name is a little bit familiar?
Remember when Tosca allowed a goal from 197 feet away?
Oh, it was Rob Davidson?
Davidson, yeah.
That's cool.
That's a cool little fact.
So that's what Rob Davison's known for.
I can't wait till he shows the young Marlies that play.
All right, kids, here's what you got to do.
First, you stand behind your own net.
Dump and cover.
Second, you flail at the puck wildly.
You don't even take a shot, really.
My favorite, hey, I'm known for that hockey thing is still the through the legs shootout goal.
Merrick Malik.
Merrick Malik, yes.
How many games did he play?
How many goals did he score?
Did he win anything?
Doesn't matter.
Merrick Malik.
Yeah, he's made every sports highlight morning show top ten ever since.
And will forever and ever.
A big tall guy, Kadiq!
What?
This is the ultimate fish out of water story!
An inconsequential regular season game!
The biggest bummer to me is when Paul Ranger kicked his stick in the shootout,
that it didn't go in, because if it went in, they could have used that forever.
Forever, but nope, didn't score.
Timothy Lilligren
yes let's spend half an hour
well there is a bit of a debate
with him and it will become more
of a story as reporters start to come back
and I think it will be a story going into training camp
like reporters are gone
yeah Chris Johnson's in Japan
I'm looking at his picture
like I'm following him on Instagram
he's at a baseball game today
a Japanese baseball game would be the sickest
oh it would be the best
okay so Lilligren
does he go to the Marlies
or does he go back
to the garbage SHL team
that he was playing on?
Terrible garbage.
Now, they are garbage.
I mean, they almost
got relegated.
Oh, are they actually?
They're actually garbage.
No, they were like
a few games away
from being relegated.
We're going to get some
angry Rogel fans.
Is it Rogel?
Yeah, it's Rogel.
If anybody has a problem
with me saying Rogel
was bad last year,
look at their record.
They were terrible.
Okay.
Now, they might be better
this year.
I don't know.
But the question is,
He is 18 years old, so keep this in mind.
Where were you at 18 mentally?
Being halfway around the world from your parents?
Being an hour away from your parents, not such a big deal.
Being literally on another continent and ocean away, sort of a big deal in a big city.
But is it better for Tim Lilligren to be here and to be a part of the Marley system?
You can track everything.
You can track his fitness, you can track his diet
You can make sure he lives well
He's going to be around pros
He's going to be a guy that literally can go through all the video coaching
They can tell him what they need from him
They can develop his skills
Or do you send him back to garbage SHL team
And I know that I sound a little bit biased here
But that is objectively the fact
Garbage SHL team or Toronto Marlies
Well, now part of the reason they were garbage
Might have been because they didn't have him on them
For very long
And also he had mono
Now there's a few things to take into account here
He's 18 but European born
So the great thing there is whether or not he plays in Sweden
Or the AHL, doesn't matter
His contract slides
Yeah, no ESC for two years
Exactly
Second is there's only so much ice to go around
So we don't know where Dermott's going to start
We don't know where, well, Nielsen is going to be with the Marlies
those other guys from the SHL
Rosen and Borgman where are they going to start
and where is the ice
going to come from
for them, Valiev is another guy
Hall is another guy so I just named six
defensemen I think and I probably
missed a few
here's my question, with Lilligren
who the fuck cares
how deep you are on defense
he's Timothy fucking Lilligren
I think the argument is
let him develop one more year
They want him to get one more year regardless, so why not let him get potentially unlimited ice time,
potentially top-pairing ice time in Sweden.
And there is an argument to be made that the SHL is a better league than the AHL.
There is an argument to be made.
I don't know.
So he could potentially play top-pairing there, while guys like Dermott, Nielsen, etc. could play top-pairing here.
And now all of a sudden, instead of just two guys getting top-pairing minutes and playing this game of musical chairs—
But what if they're shit? What if they're garbage?
It doesn't matter, as long as he's good around them.
You know what I mean?
Hey, the great thing about a shit team is he's going to get a ton of opportunity to play.
He's going to have a ton of ice time.
The other team is going to be attacking them nonstop, so he's going to learn how to handle the puck in his own end.
If the team is depending on him, he's got to learn how to move the puck.
Well, more than he already does.
He's going to be dependent on him a lot.
He's got to move the puck, Gino, is what you're saying.
He's got to move the puck, Gino.
If you had a prospect, you know what's not a great team to have a prospect on?
Probably SKA St. Petersburg because they are the bank.
They get to just buy their team.
And how is a player – they don't have enough room for the players that they have.
A bunch of their best players are bolting for the NHL.
Dodonov was the latest one.
So it's okay to be on a crappier team.
There have been stories over the years of Leafs drafting a guy.
on like a good team.
I think this happened with Jesse Blacker.
The rumor was, so he was drafted.
I can't remember the team he was on.
I think it was the Spits when they won the Memorial Cup,
but he wasn't getting the ice time.
So the next year he was traded to the Owen Sound Attack.
He took on a real leadership role there,
and they ended up winning the OHL Championship
and going to the Memorial Cup.
Yes, Jesse Blacker didn't pan out,
but that doesn't, you know,
you see the logic there, right?
It can work.
Okay.
Okay. However, if Timothy Lilligren walks in the camp and he's the—
If he astounds you right away, throw him in the AHL, for sure.
Like, if he's a top-pairing AHL defenseman, then he should be playing top-pairing minutes.
And it shouldn't matter. It shouldn't matter that there are other guys—
I'm sorry, with no offense to Renat Valiev.
Right.
But, first off, we're weak up the right side.
Totally.
Second, if it's between Timothy Lilligren and Renat Valiev,
It's Renat Valjev, or sorry, it's Timothy Lilligren all fucking day, man.
All day.
You also got to think financially.
Do I think Timothy Lilligren is going to make the team full-time this upcoming season?
I bet you the Leafs would tell you no, but the season after.
That seems to be the plan there.
So let him slide in Sweden while the guys who are going to get called up
and be on your team, if necessary, are getting top-pairing minutes
In the AHL
Rather than be pushed down the lineup
By a guy who's not even going to play for you this year
I get that, but here's how I think it's going to shake out
You've got Gardner, Riley, and probably Dermott
Marincin or Dermott, I think Dermott should be
I think Dermott's going to make the team
I think he should be promoted
And then I think you're going to have Zaitsev, Carrick, and Hainsey
And potentially
Back there?
They seem to be really high on Callie Rosen, so I don't know.
Maybe they know something I don't.
I know the Leafs said they want to go into camp with this team, but I still don't think they can.
I don't think they will.
I don't think they can.
I just, I look at this and I go, okay, so Dermott's going to play.
Dermott played top-pairing minutes last year.
Dermott should be playing in the NHL, probably, right?
Most people, if he hadn't gotten injured, it would almost be, I think everybody would just agree that he did, that he was.
He made a lot of fans of the second half, yeah.
And when he did play, it was like, well, he's ready.
He's ready to take that next step if he earns it in camp,
which, you know, the Leafs are huge on, right?
It was like Lou Amorello this time last year was like,
I don't know if Mitch Marner's ready.
I don't know if we're going to.
That's true.
I forgot about that.
Right?
And then he came in and was the best Leaf in camp.
The best Leaf.
So that's how the Leafs operate, and I really think that's fantastic.
But if Timothy Lilligren is good enough to be on the Marlies,
keep him here.
Keep him here.
Of course he's good enough to be on the Marlies.
I think he's good enough to be on the Marlies.
I just don't, I don't, there isn't, and I know this is what, what will probably happen
is a mix of both.
It'll be like the William Nylander situation where he goes, Nylander went back to moto
and then halfway through the season came to the Marlies and lit it up.
Yep, that could happen.
You know what I don't want happening is something that happened to like prospects the Leafs
have like a, like a Tobias Lindbergh or like a Dmitro Timoshev.
Like two guys who looked really exciting.
Lindbergh played NHL games for the Leafs, but in the minors, they really struggled to
find ice.
Now, those guys are wingers.
The Leafs are tremendously deep on wingers, but the Leafs aren't lacking bodies.
You could argue the quality of the depth, but they're not lacking bodies at all.
They're at 49 contracts.
They have more than enough bodies to fill up the Marlies already.
They barely, I don't think they have room.
They don't even have room for the guys they have.
Whenever I see them make an AHL signing, I'm like, that guy must be playing in the ECHL.
What are they doing?
There's not enough room.
What are you doing?
So I still say Lilligren would be better off developing in the SHL, not because it's the
better league, just it's better for the team organizationally.
It's better for the other guys they have.
Now imagine.
But what if Rogel shit, man?
Then he gets more time.
But it wasn't just the mono there.
It wasn't just the mono.
There was a whole thing about he couldn't get ice.
They had him in different leagues.
They had him all over the place.
They seem like a team that's a mess.
I'm sure the Leafs could convince them to maybe make a trade.
How?
That sort of thing happens all the time.
Well, I hope so.
Hey, you know what?
You know what would be wonderful?
Is if you were to trade Timothy Lilligren.
And now I don't know exactly what that would entail.
What would it be like the way the Russians pay their players in just a brown box of cash or a brown bag of cash?
Yeah, Lou Lamorello accidentally-
Oh, I dropped 500 grand.
Yeah, drops a brown paper bag and a horse head on a street corner.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know exactly how it would work.
What was the one?
There was something with Kenny Ryan a few years ago.
I'm trying to remember exactly what it was.
Oh, the rumor I heard, and I don't know if this is true.
was so it was blacker with the spitfires they wanted blacker traded so he could get more ice
time the spitfires had drafted kenny ryan but ryan was in the u.s development program or like
the college program or something and the rumor was the leafs convinced kenny ryan to join the spits
so that the spits could have him and then now that we did that for you can you please
trade Blacker to a team where he'll get more ice.
Yada, yada, yada.
How good is Kenny Ryan?
Oh, they were both busts, unfortunately.
But I'm just saying that's what happened.
They were both second-round picks.
Both 2009 second-round picks after Nazem Kadri.
I don't remember how to long divide.
Anyway, I look at this situation,
and you know what, Swedish hockey fans,
feel free to light me up.
I'm more than willing to be wrong.
But from where it looks at this moment,
it just doesn't seem like a very good situation and maybe maybe they do trade him you know because
maybe rolo looks at it like we're gonna have him at most one more season so maybe we trade him
and get something back and you know set ourselves up for the future see it's almost it's a little
bit like a professional ohl in in that sense you know that's actually that's a really good point
that you brought up there they're the best players in sweden teams have to look at them and go okay
How much longer are we going to have them before they bolt?
So it makes sense to trade them, especially if they're on a bad team.
That's a really good point.
I don't want Timothy Lilligren or any young player on the worst team in the league.
If you're middle of the pack, if you're a little bad, fine.
But if you're on the worst, that is wearing on an athlete's psyche.
That's not good for your confidence at an age where you don't sometimes have a lot of confidence.
But what if he next Eric Carlson's them into the middle of the pack or the playoffs or whatever?
I hope he is.
That's what I'm saying, right?
Nothing makes me happier.
If Eric Carlson's anything, I would be amazing.
In a perfect world.
Even the hair.
Andrew Nielsen and Travis Dermott and Justin Hall, too.
Screw it.
We'll throw him in there.
They all tie for Defender of the Year in the AHL,
and they get called up, and they win the cup.
And at the last minute, glass shatters,
and Stone Cold Steve Austin's music comes on,
and Timothy Lilligren walks down the rail towards the ice,
and he gets to step on for overtime of Game 7
and the Leafs win the Cup.
I like that.
That's what happens, but I don't know.
It's pretty cool.
Realistically, he'll probably just spend one season in Sweden
and then come over.
Yeah.
I actually think it's going to be a halfway.
I think he'll go back.
And I also think he's going to look at it and go,
like, first off, there will be injuries on the Marlies.
There will be injuries on the Leafs.
So some of that depth will weigh.
The NHL teams always get, yeah.
I also think that he'll look at it and go,
okay, I was just there.
And now I've got to go back to Sweden
and I'm going to watch those guys from all the way over here.
I think a part of you is like, I should be there.
Yeah, how enticing is just living in North America?
Sweden's amazing.
Sweden's an amazing country.
But also, this is the show.
This is where it is.
It's coming over here just as a hockey fan.
I like analyzing language, and one thing I've noticed is,
so I might have this wrong.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Lillegren was like,
yeah, I think I'm going to go over to Sweden next year,
and this is after he was drafted.
and the Leafs were very quick
every time like Lamorello said it
I don't remember if Babcock said it
Hunter said it
was like yeah
he'll go to Sweden or the Marlies
he was quick
they were quick to emphasize yeah or the Marlies
you make ice time
for Timothy Lilligren
when they keep bringing it up
I'm like okay I think they might actually be leaning
towards bringing him over for the AHL
and
if there's too many bodies
Well, too bad for the other guys.
Yeah, that is true, too.
Develop Timothy Lilligren.
Internal competition.
Yeah, that's fair.
And he's got her in his ice top.
That's a fair point.
That's a fair point, for sure.
You can make time for him.
And he shouldn't get special treatment.
Get that.
Understand that.
But he is an exceptionally skilled player.
Excuse me.
Another thing to watch with the Marlies.
So the Coyotes got Rick Tockett, right?
Yep.
So the, I believe, didn't I read that they interviewed Sheldon Keefe?
did you read that
I don't know
I didn't
I didn't personally
I don't know
I've been drinking
all week
okay
well you were off
Alexander Keith
listen Sheldon Keith
isn't going to be here
much longer
he's too good
I don't know
we've said that about
Dubas for
ever now
yeah but I think
I think it's different
for
because Sheldon Keith
knows he's not going
to coach the Leafs
that is an interesting
little thing
right like
like it's not like
Babcock's going anywhere
He's just getting started.
That'll be an interesting thing for whoever the next Marlies coach is.
You know you're not going to...
However, it's a great thing to say, like, it's a great...
Is there a more popular AHL team?
Is there a more focused on AHL team than the Toronto Marlies now?
Wasn't that way three years ago?
The last couple years since Nylander showed up?
Like, in terms of, like, star power and names and...
It's a spotlight AHL team, especially here.
And a lot of the hockey, and I'm sorry to say this,
but a lot of the hockey media are based out of here.
We hear a lot about the Marlies.
We hear a lot about the Leafs.
I know the Western provinces freaking hate that.
Well, the Marlies, people have started to cover them.
Yeah.
So I would imagine that it's a pretty good,
it was almost like when P.A. Parenteau signed with the Leafs
and was like, I know you're going to trade me halfway through the year,
but it's a great spotlight for me to be here to show off
so that somebody will want me.
You know what I mean?
So before they hired their new coach, Bob McKenzie tweeted that they did interview Sheldon
Keefe and other former Marlies coach Dallas Eakins.
Eakins.
Eakins.
That's cool.
Very good, Adam.
How dare you?
It's funny.
When you have a little break, you get a little fresher, right?
Eakins.
Did you see the Preds
20th anniversary logo?
People are upset
Oh
Nashville
Yeah I don't remember it though
20th anniversary
Of the Nashville Predators
We're all
We're there
Old and dying
We're there
90
I remember having
Like a hockey
Hockey 96
It would be 98
98
No
Because it would be 7-8
Oh yeah you're right
97-98
My bad
I remember having a book
Like
Explaining like
The new teams
Late 90s
Nah
Here is the Nashville 20-year logo.
It's an eyeball.
1998, three stars, 2018 underneath.
I like it.
If I didn't know better, I'd say that was the St. Louis Blues alternate logo.
I like it.
I don't know what people don't like about it.
Do you see it?
A lot of people are just tweeting things.
My favorite tweet was, I like it, I love it, I want some more of it, which is their goal song.
Oh, I like it, I love it.
Yeah, just Tim McGraw standing in a room by himself.
Yeah, randomly looking off camera.
He actually plays it each time.
Yes.
He's there and he plays it each time.
Oh, they just keep him in a room?
Yeah.
And it's just Tim.
You know how much more annoying that is than Chelsea Dagger?
What?
Yeah.
That song, instead of da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
But in Nashville it's not, because it's there.
But the league is pretty good.
You should ask goalies who get lit up there.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, and the free...
One, two, three, four.
It's all your fault.
Thank you.
May we have another.
And I thought it would be mentioned.
I think we should mention this as well.
There was one person who was employed by the Nashville Predators organization who did not enjoy the playoff run at all.
Oh, my gosh.
We've mentioned this guy before.
Oh, no.
Okay.
And I should mention that jilted former Predators national anthem singer noted former Predators.
I don't want to have an association with the organization any longer.
That is the quote.
Yeah, and the Preds were probably like, okay.
Is it wrong that I don't like this guy?
No.
Like, as a person?
I think he's unaware.
He's blissfully unaware of how he sounds right now.
Wasn't there...
So this is interesting, because wasn't there context added to the original reports of what he said
that made him sound a lot more reasonable?
But now he's saying this?
Well, he was on the Andrew Walker show.
They interviewed him.
Okay.
And so the Tennessean picked it up.
But Dennis K. Morgan is his name.
He said, even in the unlikely event that I was invited,
I don't want to have an association with the organization any longer.
Oh, no.
Where are they going to find another singer in Nashville?
We'll start with the airport.
Despite a self-described, quote, thick skin,
Morgan said he was first disappointed when Carrie Underwood was asked
to take his place singing the national anthem before Game 3 of the series
against Chicago.
They came to me and said the captain's wife asked to sing the anthem that night.
It was presented to me as a one-night-only kind of thing, and I agreed to it.
Then they continued to bring in these other singers and touted them as A-listers, which kind of hurt me.
Dennis, man, listen.
As a fellow non-A-lister, let me just tell you, you're not an A-lister.
You're not even probably on the list.
And it's okay.
I'm not either.
None of us are.
Those are A-list country acts.
Are we really?
You want to go up against Carrie Underwood?
You want to go up against Tim McGraw?
You want to go up against Faith Hill?
really you know what happened a few times this season i worked a very long time on a trade tree
and then it went up on the website and i was very proud and then right afterwards elliot friedman
would publish 30 thoughts and it would get buried so far down imagine if i were to email my boss and
go excuse me people need to actually know about uh the leafs getting alex ponikoroski with the
pick that they got for Jamie McCowan, instead of everything there is to know about the NHL.
They need to know that.
Excuse me, who is this Friedman fellow?
I'd like to have a word.
And then you followed that up by quitting, and then doing interviews about how good,
how un-good Elliot Friedman is.
This is like quitting after being fired.
You can't fire me!
I quit!
He said, the singer said he, quote, got played by his portrayal in the media, and went on
on the Canadian radio show to give his side of the story.
Quote, I'm not trying to drag the Preds' name through the mud like mine has been.
I just want a chance to clear my own name.
Morgan said he was not invited back to sing the anthem after his comments.
On the Canadian sports show, he argued that his contract should have protected him from
being replaced.
He told Andrew Walker.
Contract?
He told host Andrew Walker that his contract with the Predators expired last Friday and
he has not been contacted since.
Now could they trade him to like the Sharks? No, yeah, they're like what if they retain salary?
No, he had a 10-team no trade list. Sharks were on it.
Let's have a look at these a list of these so called A-listers
Mr. A-list scientist. Did he say so-called? So-called. Yeah, he said so-called A-list.
He said, I thought he was quoting that. That was a direct quote.
Who is this so-called Beyonce? Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Vince Gill and his daughters, Little Big Town, Lady Antebellum, just name a few.
Okay, those are, you know how I know they're A-listers?
Those are country artists I know.
That's how I know they're A-listers, because they're country artists I recognize.
Lady Antebellum.
The Hurricanes were sold.
Who stole that song?
What?
Yes?
Hurricanes were sold.
Now, if you remember last year.
I thought that was a report.
Peter Corman, was it a report?
Because I believe it was confirmed.
Well, damn.
From what I understand, it was confirmed.
Mr. Carmanos.
Oh, sorry.
It was, he's considering selling the team.
Peter Carmanos Jr. is considering selling the team for a reported $500 million U.S.
What is interesting about this particular story, I'm not sure if it's true.
First off, no relocation.
Second, last year, the hurricanes were, the valuation on the hurricanes was about $230 million.
It is now $500 million.
That is because expansion.
You ever see the economy episode of South Park where they just cut the head off a chicken and play the kazoo?
That, I think, is how rich people things work.
Yeah.
Like, how?
How do the hurricanes
double in value?
I don't, they, I mean
Is it because the sun
isn't suing the dad anymore?
Or is that still happening?
I don't know
Remember that story?
Yeah
Well, if that were actually
going through
it would take far longer
than a year to figure out
I figure, yeah
because rich people
suings take a long time
Yeah
Imagine
Being wealthy
has got to do something
to your brain
I have some
breaking news
Oh, what?
I'm going to read you
Julius Hawke
Four tweets
Don't read it
I want to know when it's a blog
Four tweets
The first one comes from Slava Malamud
He quotes
Sport Express writer
Alexei Shevenko
It's convincing
Whether or not it was true or not
It was convincing
Even more convincing
He says Russian NHLers have told him
The league has a backup schedule
With an Olympic break
And then he replies to himself
He says, the league is facing pushback from players like Sidney Crosby on Olympic participation.
Oh, yeah.
And then Elliott Friedman joined the conversation.
And he said, as that story arrives, news comes that players on AHL only contracts can be loaned to their Olympic teams.
And then Friedman replied to himself.
But NHL GMs were under the impression that players on two way contracts would not be allowed to go.
Although we wait a final rule now according to Slava
It is a an election year in Russia and even though we already know the winner because there's just one guy
It is still important that I know
It's a foe election year
It's an election year like that
I think North Koreans have elections too, and I believe the Iraqis did under Hussein first president to get
102% of the votes yes, that's that's you know
So it's a sham, obviously, but it is important to have some popular support when you're the head of a nation, no matter what, whether you're there, you know, democratically or not.
And apparently, so Putin has used the bravado of hockey, according to Slava Malamud, as a real political tool and apparently had no interest in playing hockey until he realized it had political value and started playing and has, you know, oh, he scored seven goals in a game against some NHLers.
That's crazy.
Like Stephen Harper wearing a cowboy hat?
Yeah, like, yeah, Stephen Harper from Toronto running in Calgary.
Big Toronto Maple Leafs fan, but no, Calgary riding.
K.
K, Torontonian and Maple Leaf fan, Stephen Harper.
It's amazing he got elected, like, in Calgary knowing he was a friggin' Leafs fan.
Well, he's got pictures in Leafs jerseys.
I'm surprised that was a thing.
You know what, I agree with everything he says, but...
He's a Leaf fan, screw him.
I'll never vote for a Leaf fan.
You know, I want to know how many thousands of votes he lost
because I'll never vote for a Leafs fan.
I don't.
I guarantee you people didn't.
I have to tell you.
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
Westerners on the internet versus Westerners in real life is completely different, right?
They are like, when I went to the Leaf game in Calgary,
they were amazing.
Hilarious about it.
I've been there.
They were nice.
However.
I don't think they'd be this nice in Philly.
I 100% believe.
No.
But I wonder how many people were like, you know what?
This Obama guy's got some great ideas, but go Cubs.
Like, I would imagine there's a few.
I'm not voting for a damn White Sox fan.
How dare you?
Go Cubs.
So, do the Olympics happen?
Yeah, I think they do.
You think the Olympics happen?
I think they happen.
Like, I've argued and argued and argued this.
I've said it on this podcast before.
And I know that I might be way, way wrong.
But it is such an obtuse position for the NHL to take to not go.
To talk about growing the global game and then not go to the Olympics.
In Asia, get out of here.
And I understand that South Korea is a very different market than China.
And China is the ultimate goal.
But the IIHF has said, well, if you're not going to South Korea, you're definitely not going to China.
And if you take away the Olympics, if you stop the players from going in Seoul,
Not only do you have a potential lockout on your hands,
but the AAHF then holds all the negotiation cards.
Because they can say, no, we're shutting you out.
Now they won't even negotiate with you.
And Gary Bettman is a lawyer.
And a lawyer never lets the other side have all the cards.
Not a good one.
And he's a damn good lawyer.
That gust you all feel is several groups of men around the world
just unzipping and waving their flag.
And it's going to happen until there's a new CBA sign.
and it's going to be awesome
and I can't wait to cover it for three years.
It's going to be wicked.
We will have just figured out this CBA.
How it works.
Yeah, because apparently there's summer LTIR now,
which nobody knew about.
Yeah.
Which wasn't even...
Apparently in...
The Leafs are on summer LTIR.
Kat Friendly just tweets two words, damn it.
But nobody...
It was never publicly stated.
What?
Summer LTIR.
Nobody knew.
Oh, well, and then a lot of people were theorizing that they just kind of made that up.
Yeah.
Well, Lou probably called and said, well, if it counts during the season, why wouldn't it count in the offseason?
Well, and also Nathan Horton.
What are we doing here?
Yeah.
Well, okay, so Horton was, what was it, like exempt from protection, and he was on that list.
So clearly there is some understanding that he's never going to play again.
Yeah.
Guy can barely get out of bed.
Right.
So, Lupo, there's potential shenanigans there.
He wasn't on that list, so that's a little interesting.
But Horton, there is already some kind of understanding that,
look, this guy's toast.
Give us that space for the summer because we're just paying him.
No, caps don't exist in the summer.
You can go above the cap.
Only 10%.
A certain percent.
Only 10%.
So, the Leafs only had, no, they had 400 grand left,
But that's not enough to sign Connor Brown.
And people were freaking out, like, oh, they have to make a trade,
when in fact they actually have, like, several million dollars of cap room.
Shout out to James Myrtle, who I think broke that.
And Stefan Robida is now an actual coach with the Leafs,
and he's no longer a former NHL defenseman.
Well, now he's no former NHL defenseman, not current NHL defenseman, Stefan Robida.
No, last year he played a whole bunch.
A whole bunch.
So you're on the side of no Olympics?
Well, okay, so Adam mentioned 30th birthday and all that,
so my upcoming 30th birthday, months and months from now,
I have tickets.
To the Olympics?
No, to a Leaf game.
Sorry, I didn't actually mention that.
I have tickets to the Raptors.
No, so I got Leafs tickets.
So all these people who bought NHL tickets for a certain date,
For a certain reason
Are those tickets going to be refunded
They're going to switch the date of a game
And then they can't go
Here's your flag, go Canada
Shut up, here's the flag, go Canada
Money talks, man, I don't know
All they have to do is move the game
They're not canceling it
Are you telling me they moved
Five games out of a two week period
Five games
You think five games are getting moved
Try half the damn schedule
Do you think it's going to happen
Five games for each team.
No, I think they're done.
I think the NHL's done.
Yeah.
Yeah, they're not going.
I think they're going.
Dude, it's mid-July.
They're not going.
They're not going.
You underestimate.
You underestimate.
That's true.
I did just mention how rich people don't give a shit.
You don't give the IIHF all the bargaining chips going into China, man.
And if you do that, if you do this, if you do not put your teams and you do not put the
NHL players in South Korea, you have just given them China to say, no, we're shutting
the door.
Sorry.
Sorry about your luck.
And Rene Fussell will do that.
And I'm not saying anybody's like, there's no good guy here.
As we mentioned before when this news all broke, no good guy on any side.
Everyone's terrible.
Everyone is equally shit.
The NHL needs to be a global brand, and they know it.
And the IIHF knows it.
Sorry.
I can't wait to talk about hockey.
Hey, do you want to talk about something fun?
Yeah.
I got a little game.
I got a little game.
Okay.
And before we do, I've got, first off, I've got a headline.
It's not an NHL headline, but it's still a good one.
The second thing is I have a little game that I want to play,
and I want to play it all year because I think it's a good one.
The game is, which Twitter account did this come from?
Ooh.
Okay.
All right.
You ready?
That is a good game.
Now, I'm going to give you two names.
It's one or it's the other.
one of them
Jaden Smith
Will Smith's son
okay
known for tweeting
some crazy stuff
yes
the other one
Mary Lemieux ripoff
Josh Hosea
ah
okay
also known for tweeting
crazily
some crazy stuff
some interesting things
so are those my two options
those are your two options
okay
so is this tweet
I'm gonna read it out
I got five
okay
I'm gonna go with the hockey
so it's Jesse versus Steve
right now
Jesse versus Steve
are you ready
okay
like is it first answer
Or should I just go like...
Well, no, it's not first answer.
It's you each answer, and we keep score.
Okay, so first tweet.
Take a selfie.
Go on, do it.
Now you are officially looking at the only person who can change and make your life better.
Hashtag, you got this.
Is it Jaden Smith or Josh Hosang?
I'm going to say Jaden Smith.
Josh Hosang.
Jesse's correct.
Jesse's up 1-0.
Very good, very good, very good.
Number two.
Okay.
People on the street literally call me Batman
And it's so amazing
Jaden Smith
I'm going to say Jaden Smith
You're both correct
Forever
Even if we're not together
Jaden Smith or Josh Hosang
Hosang
Hosang
Both incorrect Jaden Smith
See what I mean
Shit I'm on board
Damn it
Failure is success in progress
Hashtag pick up your head
Hashtag keep moving forward
The Ho-Sang
I think Ho-Sang too
And you're both correct
Jesse's up 3-2
And the last one
And I think this one's a doozy
This one is actually a tweeted meme
And if you're on YouTube you probably know the answer to this
And the caption for the meme is
This has endless meaning
This has endless meaning
If the whole world was blind
How many people would you impress
Josh Hosang
Or Jaden Smith
Jaden Smith
Both incorrect
No way
I thought for sure
Isn't that amazing
That is a really good game
Wow
If the whole world was blind
How many people would you impress
Probably as many as I do
During the fact that they're not
Which is zero
Wow
What are you talking about
You're on the radio
Doesn't mean I'm impressive
Fair
There's a lot of unimpressive
I'm one of them
Did forget that
That little detail
Wow that was really good
I'm disappointed
You're disappointed
That fall flat for you
That Josh Hossain
Is tweeting like that
Well
I'm not
We need someone to pick up the mantle
From where Kanye West's Twitter used to be
Like there's such a gap
In the world
I want him tweeting about conference tables
Jaden Smith exists
We just went through it
Jaden Smith's Twitter is outstanding
It's outstanding
And apparently so is Josh's
There's a few people that tweet
And I'm like to whom is this going to sink in
Yet they get thousands of retweets
Thousands
That positivity stuff
still really like Twitter used to be like
you know crazy
crazy weirdos and then super
positive life coach type A
folks you know like we're gonna make
your life better Twitter was like the ultimate
like five years ago the ultimate like
life coach center everybody was life coach
now it's Instagram yes
also memes
another one so I've got headlines here
also world star fights one headline
TMZ did a story
on DMX
Okay?
Oh.
So DMX...
I think I saw this.
Okay.
Got out...
DMX is in court for tax evasion,
among many other things that DMX has been to court for.
And...
But he did have that video go viral of him on the slingshot ride.
That's right.
DMX wants to go work abroad
and wants to prove to the judge that he's not a flight risk.
And the judge approved.
Yes, you can go on tour and make some money,
but you're still due in court for these dates.
But as long as you're in court for these dates, you're good to go abroad
So
TMZ's headline for this
Was what?
Something about
Some sort of play on
Like the lyrics for Party Up
Hmm
Come on
Y'all gonna make me come to court
Up in here
Yeah, something like that
Judge gonna let ex give it to you
Gets okay to travel for work
That's horrible
Mine's way better
Mine's way better
That's terrible
Shame on DMZ
Here's one Mashable's headline for how Harry Styles
Performed in
In the new Dunkirk movie
Harry Styles is one of the actors in the new Dunkirk movie
Christopher Nolan apparently this is Christopher Nolan's best movie
Remember Christopher Nolan did the Dark Knight
They're saying this is his best movie
And all of the reviews are in
And they're saying it's an absolute masterpiece
Automatically
I'm going to automatically be disappointed
Exactly
Critics love it
Critics love it
Ah shit damn it
Yeah they liked Benjamin Button too
But I actually think this is going to be great
I actually truly believe this is going to be one of those wow movies
Now
All of the headlines
For Harry Styles
What would you write about that
What would you write about that?
How would you headline an aggregation of all the articles, all the reviews?
Is it like a lyrics thing, or is it going to be like,
he's trying out his acting styles, something like that.
Changing up his styles.
You're going to make some kind of play on styles.
Well, give me something.
And Jesse, you have to too.
Stiles
Appear
Stiles tries to appear
Stiles
Tries to appeal to
Cinephiles
Yeah
Okay Jesse
That is way that
Yeah okay alright
You're out of practice
You're out of practice man
It's gotta be simple like NHL headlines
It's got to be simple like NHL headlines.
Harry's in a movie.
I don't know, man.
What was that?
I don't know.
You said keep it simple, so I said Harry's in a movie.
Jesse?
What's in the article?
It's a collection of quotes from other articles about how his performance went in the movie.
So Mashable picked from Variety, picked from IndieWire, from AP, and said,
these are what they are.
Okay.
Scary Harry.
You're going to hate it when I tell you.
You're going to hate it.
What is it?
What is it?
I don't know what I'm going to do.
Styles movie reviews all go in one direction.
Ow!
Don't you hate that?
What's the direction?
Good or bad?
It's good.
Oh, shut up.
He did good.
That's not too bad.
Was Ed Sheeran photoshopped into Game of Thrones?
No, he was in it.
Was he actually in Game of Thrones?
Okay, I saw the picture.
He said in interviews going in, hey guys, it's pretty unspectacular.
You're not really going to be impressed by anything.
and people were like oh that was
bullshit I can't he's just singing
around a fire like that's it
they brought him in there because he sings like a British guy
yeah it's a pointless
it's not a pointless scene it's just a scene
and it doesn't
it's not one way or the other it's just sometimes
things just exist you don't need to take on certain
things like sometimes it just is there
was Josh Donaldson's role in Vikings
big or was it just
hey he looks a little bit like a Viking and is popular
I think that's what it was yeah
It's called Stun Casting
Members of Coldplay have been in Game of Thrones
Members of what was the other band
It was Coldplay and some other band
You too
But it's just like hey we're going to get a minor actor to play this
Let's put a celebrity there
It doesn't change anything
But people were like oh my god
That was silly
That was dumb
Let me tell you the 10 ways I hated it
You know how many people watched Game of Thrones for the first time
Because Ed Sheeran was in it
Yeah
But basically everybody's watching it anyway
If you read the ratings
The ratings are astronomical for it
Oh this show's so pleasant
Ed Sheeran sung a nice song
Stabbed, pulled out their intestines with their teeth
There were some good deaths
It was a good return
Steve enjoyed it
You know what was my favorite?
Steve also enjoyed season 1 through 6
Every Sunday
This past week I caught up on a full season
Of the bottom of my glass
It was great
Every Sunday when Game of Thrones season is on, the loudest people in the room are the ones who do not watch it.
I don't watch it.
Yep, because they need to post, well, I don't.
I'm one of the people that doesn't watch it.
What do you think of that, Twitter?
I love that thing, that comic where it's like, I don't watch Game of Thrones.
And then an angel flies down and hands them a piece of paper and flies away.
And they unfold the piece of paper and it just says, okay.
I like that.
No one cares.
I like that.
All right.
Shall we do the press conference?
Yes.
The Presser SDP.
The Steve Dangle Press Conference.
Well, did you know from Drew Capuano, but D-R-U-E underscore Capuano.
Sorry, Drew what?
Capuano.
Are you sure it's not Bababuchi, Jesse?
Did you know that the AHL schedules fewer games for the Pacific Division?
They play 68 games while the rest of the league plays 76.
I did actually know that, yeah.
I didn't know that, and that sounds not smart.
It's a financial thing.
There's a reason why they have a California division, right, or Pacific Division, whatever.
I guess it cuts down on travel costs, but how do you prorate points?
I want to know if anyone has missed the playoffs because of pro-rated points.
Yeah, because it's points percentage.
They have to rank the standings by.
But how is that fair?
The CWHL has done this for a while now because they have four teams that are relatively close together.
And then Calgary!
Nowhere near.
That, to me, makes some sense.
But also, the players don't even get paid.
This is the American Hockey League.
Like, there are wealthy, well-off people, teams making a bunch of money.
I don't know.
This is very strange to me, but whatever.
At least it's not that huge of a difference, right?
What's the worst jersey foul you've ever seen?
From Marie Michelle.
Maybe the one that you sent me the other day.
Which the—
The Bin Laden 9-11 jersey.
Yeah, there's a Bin Laden 9-11 jersey.
In person?
Worst jersey foul in person.
You know, my rules for jersey fouls are pretty loose
As in, get your own name on the back
Because it'll last longer, I don't care
Half jerseys?
Half jerseys are the worst
Those are bad
Unless you're a parent
Unless you're a parent?
Yeah, if you're the mom and your son plays on two different NHL teams
You can get a half
If you're Mrs. Niedermeyer, it's okay
Or Mrs. Sutter, you can have a six-part jersey
Can you imagine?
Yeah, fine
I think that, yeah, those were like a hit in the 90s for some reason.
Like the Home and Away jerseys.
Oh, Home and Away.
Yeah, the Home and Away Leafs jerseys I saw at school, and I was like, those are ugly as hell.
Why would anyone buy that?
That's terrible.
Those navy blue Leaf jerseys they sold for some reason?
Remember those jerseys that were navy blue, white, and black?
The hell was that?
You don't remember that?
Someone will tweet it at you, guaranteed.
They'll be like, I had one.
Guess what?
So did I.
I'm still dumb.
I don't know.
I haven't seen many like I mean we saw I saw a Trump 16 Nashville Jersey
We saw it at the game. I believe didn't we there was a dude at game six that I saw
But like it's even a Trump 16 like whatever like who cares. It's not even really that bad whatever
No, there was a dude. There was a dude. I saw
his nameplate said crazy bill and
His number was 420
I've seen a bunch of 69 jerseys
Well, my mom was, I guess the Leafs gave out promo jerseys in the mid, like the early 90s, right?
And the home jerseys were white back then.
Yes.
So my mom took me to a game in the late 90s when the jersey had changed a little bit.
It had the silver lining on it.
I had the third jersey that year, which was the old school Maple Leaf, a lot like what it is now.
and my mom has this old, raggedy home jersey from the early 90s
when they didn't make it to fit human beings.
They made it to fit human beings with equipment on, so it's huge.
And it says her station is 104.5, and it says 104.5 on the back.
And the jersey is just enormous, and it says this big one, 04.5.
And I'm like, even back then at 10 or 11 years old, I was like,
This is, that's awkward looking.
Yeah, that's so stupid.
I have a really great friend.
Like the 92.5 jersey?
I have a really great friend who got me a jersey one time,
and they decided to stick 925 on the back,
and it says producer.
He's a super cool friend.
Good friend?
He's super cool.
I have a cool friend who has a jersey like that
and never wears it.
Well, I have the new one now,
so I would never wear that one.
That's right.
You're right.
True.
Throw it in the garbage
I bought three jerseys there
Yeah and two of them were
One of them is
Adam probably lost it
No I still have it
Give it to him
Yeah I have to send it to him
I'm gonna strangle you
You're right I have to send that to him
I will send that to him
And then there's the Blake one that
It's probably pretty dusty
It doesn't say Blake
It's probably like some shade of
It says producer it doesn't say Blake
It's a gray
Whatever color dust is
I love that you put producer
And not his last name too
I don't know. I don't know why I did that.
You should have just put a big SDP on the back.
Should have just put PP.
PP. There you go.
Put three numbers.
Fuck you!
I got you that from the flagship
NHL store.
That is special!
Alright. Symbolizes our friendship.
Last question. Lobby Dangle wants to know
Spider-Man or Iron Man?
Iron Man. All day.
All day.
One is an actual superhero
The other is just a rich guy
A rich guy
I'm for the rich guy
Can I answer the
Can I answer that they both get on my nerves
Actually?
Yeah
Why?
Okay everyone's like this Spider-Man is so great
And I'm like no
Spider-Man has lost it's permission to make movies with me
How which Spider-Man is this?
This is like the fourth attempt
And I didn't think you were talking about the movie
The reason they had to do that
Oh as superheroes
I hated Tobey Maguire
Spider-Man so much
I liked emo Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 3
So much
Those were so bad
I'm trying to picture cool Spider-Man
But all I see is Tobey Maguire
And it's really screwing it up
How about Eric Foreman as Venom
What?
What menacing character
Should we get for a movie
You're like, Jason Statham or The Rock?
No, no, no.
Eric Foreman.
Toe for grace.
Donna's boyfriend.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Yeah, the, here's the thing.
The reason, do you know why that happened?
Why?
They keep rebooting it?
Do you know the reason?
No.
So Marvel, before they had a film studio and before Disney owned them, Marvel wanted these
movies made, but didn't have its own studio.
So they licensed Spider-Man out to Sony Pictures.
Now, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 1 was enormous.
Spider-Man 2 was the biggest superhero.
That's Tobey Maguire.
Yeah, both are Tobey Maguire.
Spider-Man 2 was the biggest superhero movie of all time for a long time.
It was a good movie.
Shut it off.
You're wrong.
It was a good movie.
Shut it off.
It was a good movie, especially for the time, you know, compared to what was going on with
Batman and what was going on with, like, you have to remember that was back when it was
Oh, like George Clooney, Batman, with Schwarzenegger and the Iceman.
Stupid.
Yeah, like that.
That, right?
So then, you know, DC starts to ramp it up with Christopher Nolan doing, you know, the trilogy.
And Marvel goes, well, no, we're going to make our own movies.
But they can't make a Spider-Man one, even though he's a part of the Marvel superhero universe, because they've given the rights to Sony.
And Sony has a clause in their contract that says, as long as they do a new Spider-Man movie every five years, they get to hang on to the rights as long as they want.
So they reboot it with Andrew Garfield
So make a different Spider-Man
I'm sitting there going
And then he doesn't go
And then the uncle dies
And then he's sad
And then holy shit
The Andrew Garfield Emma Stone first Spider-Man
Was actually quite charming
Like there was nothing wrong with it
And had it not been like the third version of the same story
I might have seen it
That was the restart of the Tobey Maguire one
That was the first reboot
That's like how they just redid the Hulk like it never happened
Like two years later or whatever
Because it was shit the first two times they tried it.
No, you sit in your shit.
Sit in your shitty movie.
Let me tell the story.
Spider-Man 2, again, comes out.
That's another Garfield.
That's with Garfield and Emma Stone again.
Are you listening to this conversation?
Yeah, I'm very interested in the history.
I don't remember.
Because it's interesting.
It is interesting.
No, but just the fact that you had to say, oh, no, no, this one.
This one.
No, no, no.
Not that Shawshank Redemption.
The other one.
Okay, well, no, no.
Superhero movies.
Not that Good Will Hunting.
No, the other one.
Imagine they did that?
I know I'm comparing Oscar-winning movies to superhero movies, but it's so shit.
So the second one comes out.
Remember when they redid Inception with Harry Styles?
Yeah.
That was great.
They did Inception the musical.
They Inceptioned Inception.
And every time they go into another dream, they do like an acapella.
So Spider-Man 2 comes out.
Total bomb.
Total bomb.
Yeah.
and that's because the story kind of fell
flat and
Marvel at this point is doing extremely
well Iron Man has killed Iron Man 2
has killed Captain America
yeah like all of these ones
are doing great and then the Avengers comes out
explosion huge movie
and Thor does really well and Ant-Man does
really well so Marvel goes to Sony and goes
listen we gave you those
rights when we thought we
weren't going to make movies now we are
we're owned by Disney but we are still
our own sub-studio, much like Pixar is, much
like Lucasfilm is,
we can make a great movie
and we want to include Spider-Man because
in the comics, he's a huge part of
the Marvel superhero universe. And it's
weird that he wasn't in any of those movies.
It's very strange.
So they say, how about this?
We partner on it. We'll take
the creative lead. We'll give you half the
profits. And Sony goes,
okay, so we don't have to do
that much. And we get money
for it. Okay, we'll take
that deal. And that's why
you're seeing it rebooted again. And they never made a third one
of the Garfield ones. No, even though they were supposed to.
And that was where they were going to introduce Mary Jane.
Right? I don't know.
Because Emma Stone
played Gwen Stacy. Gwen Stefani.
Gwen Stefani. And then
of course, Kristen Dunst was
Mary Jane Watson?
I want to say Mary Jane. Anyway.
And you have to remember, Steve.
Fed up with Spider-Man. For comic book fans,
for comic book fans, reboots
are not a new thing. Oh, I know.
It happens all the time.
So this is kind of like, well, whatever.
It's par for the course.
Are we a little burned on Spider-Man stuff?
Yeah.
It's a little much.
So then this is the third reboot.
This is the third reboot.
And this is the first movie?
This is the first movie.
And it stars Zac Efron.
It's just like releasing the expansion pack of a new video game, but it's just the old
video game.
It's like when they are like, hey, Halo's come out, but we improved the graphics, and
it's the old Halo.
Every Halo game is the same.
But they could do that.
They did that, and I bought it, and I was like, why did I do that?
I think I'm playing it.
I'm like, oh, yeah, it's the old Halo, but newer.
That first two Halo, like, Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 are unreal.
Right, but, like, the idea that you can recapture that just by going, slapping some new shit on it.
What I loved about it is they got to, like, Black Ops 3, and they were like, okay, space-age weapons.
I know, yeah.
We're just going to make them up, and it was like, that's when I'm like, okay, I'm not buying that.
I don't care that you got Kevin Spacey
Maybe we should have started earlier than Vietnam
So you're telling me
If they re-release Vice City on the PS4
You wouldn't be happy
I wouldn't play it
Different for me because I never played Vice City
Really?
I didn't own it
I didn't own an Xbox until
Like I had graduated
Oh
Yeah
Vice City was
I didn't have a video game
That was my quintessential game
If there was a game to sum up my childhood
It was Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Oh I played it at friends houses
That soundtrack too
There's an actual Spotify playlist
With all the songs from Vice City
Amazing
I listened to it the other day
Or a few weeks ago
It's the best
Out of questions and out of Spider-Man trivia
Sick of Spider-Man
I haven't rushed to the theater to see it
I will say this, Wonder Woman
Quite fantastic
I have heard nothing but good things
Now imagine when in a couple years
They're like, and now
new Wonder Woman
and it's the same plot
but a couple things are different
and Jennifer Lawrence is Wonder Woman
and this guy
is one of the other characters
I definitely watched that
I'll watch anything with Jennifer Lawrence in it
Adam Wilde gets to see movies early
because he's famous and gets screeners sometimes
sometimes, rare
he saw Star Wars before everyone else
I did see Star Wars and that wasn't a screener though
that was like a press screening
where you can go early and see it
so you can talk about it
and then it's out
like three days later
and then like
you're not allowed
to review it
for those three days
yeah they're like
can you please
hold your reviews
until Wednesday
at 1.45pm
and then all the reviews
go
and please don't
blow any plot points
and
I get that
but with the NHL
video games
nice yeah
oh my gosh
we have to
like set up
something with EA again
because that was
a lot of fun last year
that was a lot of fun
well I don't
I don't know
what their plans are
NHL is coming
Hey, can we mention one quick thing, too?
I was going to talk to Rammer.
I forgot to.
We should have brought this up earlier.
So anybody that's hung around this long, appreciate it.
SoundCloud.
There has been some issues with SoundCloud.
They laid off 40% of their staff, but then Chance the Rapper called and said,
Hey, guys, are you sticking around?
And basically the idea was the report out of TechCrunch was that they were not going to be financially solvent through the end of the year.
Now, they're saying they are.
What I will ask of you is this.
If you're not already subscribed on something other than SoundCloud
And I'll mention this next episode too
Please do
Just so you don't lose us
I'm aware that a huge chunk of our listening audience
Listens directly from SoundCloud
So I want you to just
If you have Google Play
If you've got the podcast app
Just subscribe there
If something were to happen to SoundCloud
And we were to lose everything
Can I do my own version of this after?
We'll move over
Hey, hey fuckface listening
Get with the times
Get a podcast app
On your android phone or your iphone
There's one built in on the iphone
Or there's one you can download from the google play store
Download it
And then subscribe
That's right Mr. or Mrs. Face
Also subscribe on youtube
Yeah you know that
And smash that like button
We'll find another place to host the show
That's not the issue
It's you know I don't want anybody to lose
Lose us
Or lose track of us
We're available on every app
If SoundCloud shuts down
We'll just post somewhere else
But I just
I want you to be aware
That there are some financial issues
Companies always had financial issues
They've never made money
Which is bizarre to me
Because all we read about
Is like
Oh podcasts are the new thing
And we're like
Yeah
Yeah
We know
And oh they're doing so well
And like
Oh no
The biggest one is shutting down
What?
Well it's not a podcast app though
It's not a podcast website
And most people who post there
Don't pay a subscription fee
Like we do
You know
It costs us
You know
What is it
150 bucks a year to do
Most people aren't paying that
Most people aren't doing that
Yeah
If SoundCloud goes down
We
I don't even think
We'd just be on
One less thing
I would think
Everything would stay
The exact same
But isn't it the main host
Yeah
We upload it there
And then it goes to the other
Yeah
But that's not a big deal
No
It's not
That's what I'm saying
I would literally just switch
Oh I'm just gonna do it from here
All I am saying is this
Subscribe to something
Other than SoundCloud
For our sakes
just because, you know, we wouldn't want you to miss an episode.
That's it.
And I'm sorry I called you a fuckface.
He's not.
I am very sorry.
On that note, we did lose a member of the SDP family.
Oh.
I forgot to bring that.
It was while I was in Halifax.
I saw the story break, and particularly to Boston Bruins fans, you may know her.
She went by Bratrice on Twitter, but specifically her name is Nicola.
she invented the 63 plus 37 equals 100 thing
for the Bruins
and she tweeted at us many times
and apparently she passed away
I believe at age 26
so if you knew her
I'm very sorry
and Nicola
I hope you're at peace now
I don't know what happened
all I know is she passed
so our best to her family and her friends
and condolences
And I think this is the first time in our – that we knew of a member of the community passing away.
So I think that that is – that was weird when you messaged us.
It was a very strange feeling.
Yeah.
I didn't like it, obviously.
All the best to anybody that knew her.
We send our absolute best.
We don't know anything about memorial services or anything like that, if they've already taken place, probably.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I kind of found out a week ago, so maybe – I don't know.
I was talking to Sarah Connors about it.
Okay.
Yeah, very sad.
Very sad.
On that note, thank you so much for listening.
We will be back next week.
We are working on some things.
Oh, yeah.
Guests.
One week.
We're going to wait a whole week.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Aw.
Yeah.
I know I miss you guys in the summertime.
Like, it's weird.
It's really weird.
I get halfway through the summer and I'm like, where are my friends?
We want to do the show twice a week.
We want to do the show probably more than that.
But again, it's like you said, you have to force yourself to chill.
And that way you have all the synergy to do it again later.
Yeah.
It's what makes the show great, right?
It's like you want to be on the ice the entire game when you're playing,
but you've got to take some shifts.
You might pass out.
Yeah, exactly.
No, yeah, I've reached out to some people.
A bunch of people have already agreed to come on.
We've got to work on scheduling, and I've got to reach out to some other folks.
So it might be a bit of an irregular schedule,
but we will have at least one show a week.
There will be a couple weeks in August where we'll throw up some best ofs
because, you know, quite frankly, we need a break.
It's going to be a long haul from that first week in September to Christmas
because it always is.
It's going to be intense.
Or we might record, like, two one week and then upload them staggered.
I don't know.
You'll see.
If you download the podcast app, fuckface.
Yeah.
Fuckface.
I'm sorry.
Whatever.
It's my fault.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Their first episode in a while.
Anyway, we love you guys.
See you next week.
Bye.
