Panago Pizza presents S.T.P.
The Steve Dangle Podcast with your hosts, Steve Dangle and Adam Wilde.
Before we start the show, a musical legend passed away today.
And I think that we need to honor him the right way.
Which in this case is the CNN way.
He's been so active over all of these years.
Writing music
Performing
Soundtracks
For major motion
Pictures
All of us of course
Remember Purple Haze
Nope
That'd be Purple Rain
Wolf Blitzer
And
We say
Goodbye to Prince
Goodbye Prince
Genuinely wrecked my afternoon
I'm not gonna lie
You're a big
Oh
You're wearing a purple shirt
I know
You didn't even mean to do that
I didn't even mean to do it
That's for the Queen's birthday
Is why you wore that
That's right
Very regal color
Sure
Or it wasn't that
I picked it out at 4.30 in the morning when I couldn't see anything.
And I was like, this feels like a shirt.
Because that's when you got up. Because you're stupid.
Stop being successful.
How many hours have you worked today, Adam Wilde?
Okay. Do you want me to run through my day?
Yeah. Let's do it.
Why talk about sports when we can talk about you
and your day?
Got up at 4.30.
Adam is bigger than sports.
Was at Breakfast Television by 5.30.
Had a segment at 6.20
and 6.40 and then like, you know,
so on throughout the morning.
with Dina DiPugliese
who's just like
what's up
good morning
she's the most energetic
person and thank god
she is because the rest
of us are like zombies
before she's there
and then I finished up
there at about 10am
because I had to go
to the post show meeting
from 9.30 to 10
and then I went home
for an hour or two
and then I went to
came back to work
because I had a meeting
with Jesse
to your other work
yeah to New
what's good though
is you used that hour
or two to
nap clearly
Well, today I didn't
Today I was like
No, I feel okay
Why don't I go on Battlefront?
Why don't I go on Battlefront and complete
I was supposed to complete a contract
That I bought from Jabba the Hutt
To get myself this really sick pistol
And Jabba the Hutt was like
Sure, all you need to do is get 15 kills with this gun
And 3 killstreaks with this gun
But the gun that you have to do it with
Is this weenie little pistol
That is terrible
And you have to get 10 kills with it in a game and I can't do it
Well, you've got to use your teammates, Adam.
You've got to communicate better with them.
Well, you can't talk to people in Battlefront unless your friends are playing.
Oh, so how else are you going to hear...
People clearing their thrones.
Dad! Dad!
Are you still playing StarCraft?
It's Star Wars!
I got a message from a listener, actually.
And he said, hey, literally after I finished playing,
and I kid you not, on my PSN Messenger,
he said, hey, Adam, that was a lot of fun.
we'll play again sometime I had no idea I was playing with one of our listeners
so that was amazing uh his name's uh Jossie99 so thank you yeah thanks for the couple of games
Adam and I was like dude oh I didn't even know you were playing and I did not have my microphone
hooked up because Jossie would have heard some stuff and some things that were unpleasant I asked
before the show I go how many times do you get genuinely embarrassed by your reaction to video
games. And Jesse's answer made me feel so much
better.
Well, you shouldn't be embarrassed at all. It's very important.
I agree.
I got a contract with
fake money from a fake
slug gangster who's
literally a slug. He's literally a massive
slug. Jabba the Hutt. Slug gangster.
And I was unable to complete that contract and it made me mad.
Made me mad. I paid 8,000
credits for that. Galactic freaking credits.
And that ruined your day. James Reimer
let in a goal off the stand
gin from the other side of the ice in my
Chell game, and it made me really upset.
You've got to post that to Instagram. You do.
Why haven't you posted it? Honestly, when you see
what happened to Jesse, you'll
be mad on his behalf. It was sad. I cried a little.
Can you please post that tonight? I will post that.
Okay, because that is just... Throw that up on Twitter.
Wow. Anyway...
So are we just putting off the
bad conversation? I wanted to
start on somewhat of a light note.
I know somebody mixing up... So you started with
a death announcement. Yeah.
But at least it was a Jimi Hendrix
and Prince cross...
Oh, poor CNN.
Excuse me while I hold this L.
I do feel bad for CNN
just because they're on 24-7 live
and things are bound to happen.
Like, you're tempting fate at that point.
It is true,
but I can't help but feel like
Wolf Blitzer went a little off script
and he's like,
here's where I'll get him.
And completely turned himself into a meme again.
There is an inordinate amount of Wolf Blitzer clips
floating around in the ether.
wolf not so hip dad um blitzer i was actually going to start with a story from windsor ontario
that's what i was really going to start with but maybe we'll save that for later let's save it
all right i'm going to just say it andrew shaw andrew shaw yes oh again i gotta listen to this
again i've been listening to it on the radio all day i listened to it all yesterday every blog was
on it every yes too bad too bad you know what this is too much this conversation is too much
hey stop taking it so seriously that stuff gets said all the time on the ice well you know what
if that gets said all the time on the ice then you should be able to handle this being talked
about all the time on the radio and on every podcast and on every blog you read that's why
it's a problem stupid so so a couple things happened but anyway let's have a conversation
A couple things happened between our last show and this one.
And those things are,
Curt Schilling was let go from ESPN and the Andrew Shaw thing.
For similar incidents, strangely enough,
they were similar-ish, right?
I see it.
It's somebody said something that is inappropriate
and paid a price for it.
That's the general consensus.
Schilling was more of a...
Schilling's a different case, and we'll get to Schilling in a sec.
Yeah, kind of built up over time.
Andrew Shaw came out and apologized, genuinely said he was sorry, and I think in a situation like this, the one thing that we must do is expect that human beings are going to screw up, hope for a genuine apology, which we got, and then you see how they actually act once the apology happens.
You've got to allow, and this generation does not like to do this, you've got to allow people to move on.
Yeah, like I totally disagreed with what he did.
I thought he should be punished.
Absolutely.
A lot of people for the first time were like, wow, the NHL really got this right.
They nailed it.
Suspended him for a playoff game.
They fined him.
You know, it certainly doesn't excuse anything or really make it better, I guess.
But he, you ever see an apology for someone you're mad at and it's sincere enough that you feel bad a bit?
Yeah.
I know I shouldn't feel bad for him, but I was just like, man, he really means what he's saying.
And he probably, do I think that Andrew Shaw actually meant what he said on the ice?
Yeah.
Do you think he meant that?
He screamed at the top of his lungs.
Or was it just a bad, was it a bad word?
Was it a bad word?
He just used a bad word.
He meant it in the moment.
He meant it in the moment.
Which is good enough.
Fair.
Or bad enough.
Yeah, no, that's fair.
You know?
But he seemed very sincere in his apology.
He is almost the least disgusting part of this whole thing, right?
he's almost the part of this that I'm least concerned about because he
apologized and he seemed to me and again,
everyone who's like,
he should be able to do that.
What is wrong with everyone?
Why is everyone so soft?
Why doesn't everyone just man up?
We've said this before,
but let me reiterate in,
in North America,
you have in,
in all three countries,
Mexico,
United States of America,
Canada,
you have the ability to say pretty much whatever you want.
you have freedom of speech as that's what they say in the States.
Okay.
Freedom of speech.
What you do not have is freedom from consequence.
That is what you do not have.
So yeah,
you can say whatever the hell you want.
Manning up would be accepting consequence,
but consequences are still bound to happen.
Can the government persecute you?
No,
they can't.
It doesn't mean a corporation can't say,
this isn't good for our business.
And,
and,
and quite honestly,
um the the argument that i got from from listeners that have been with us for a long time was just
that steve you can say i mean cool all right he said or this one he said it in the heat of the
moment well all right there braveheart well how about you next time you get into an argument with
your boss in the heat of the moment tell him to f off right to his face his or her face
see what happens just see what happens hey you got freedom of speech it's fine yeah you'll be
fine yeah i mean you're allowed to say it you are allowed to say it i'm allowed we're on the radio
right now i'm allowed to say whatever i want except not except not there's a rule i'm like
adam i like the show there's a rule in radio you can say anything once and that's that rule i think
goes for life too or if you're kurt schilling 17 times 17 times before espn finally makes a move
now um the the the frustrating part for me is that people said okay so he said it in the heat
of the moment he said it in the heat of the moment he didn't mean it okay so let's let's change the
word for a second here well because because hang on what is the word the word objectifies and
demeans a group of people a certain group of people let's say that andrew shaw had called
that ref the n-bomb or any other slur would you be would you be or yeah any other slur but i'm
using the n-bomb in this particular case let's say he'd use that okay do you think that you would
be defending it had he said that uh some people would but uh do you think any say fewer people
sane rational people and i'm talking to the people that listen to this show would you be defending
that comment would you be defending that comment here's a problem uh you said sane rational people
and i often go i just ignore them they're crazy just ignore who cares they're crazy people there
are so many there are so many that you can't really ignore them you can't and some and a lot
of the ones i saw on this on twitter yesterday and a lot of them listened to the show not crazy
but just misguided and and i was reading some of them and i couldn't help but feel like i feel like
they're having an internal conflict out loud yes about the way they feel about this word and
they were asking questions
somewhat rhetorically
well why can't you
they're trying to figure it out in their own head
I think we're getting there
it's a transition
I hope we're getting there
would this have even gotten punished before?
it is akin to a racial slur
it just happens to be a sexually oriented slur
it's the same thing
and I also saw a lot of people going
well look at all the other stuff that happens on the ice
you can punch a guy in the face but you can't say that
or you could say to a guy
like i'm i'm gonna kick your ass you can say that you know what why is that worse and
which is an interesting question it's an interesting question except for the fact that
you and i don't insult my intelligence and don't insult yours by putting those two things in the
same category yeah don't pretend they're the same we both know they're not don't try to get me to
explain why they're not, because we both
know. We both know.
Don't act like I'm stupid. Don't act like you're stupid.
Let's talk. Let's talk.
Instead of trying to win,
how about you try to
open your mind to reason? There doesn't need to be
a win.
That is the problem, though, is that there does
have to be a win for most people out there.
I think nobody wants to
quote-unquote lose an argument. I get that.
But quite honestly,
if you stand on the other side of this
issue and you think that that was okay, you're
standing on the wrong side of history and decency period end of story that's it that's all and you
can realize it now or you can realize it in 10 years or you can never realize it that's your
choice but i'm telling you right now that it's a problem and it's not okay and the nhl did the
right thing because because just purely take all the emotion out of it take the take the whole take
all the feeling all the people you've offended all the kids who may be hockey players and may
be gay who are now oh my god that's what nhl players are saying take all of that out of it
the nhl looked at this and said this is bad for business this happened on national television
we are an inclusive organization we cannot have this well adam you know what it's all the
microphones and the cameras that are doing it because they put a evil witch spell on andrew
Shaw and made him spew those words from his face, you know, with all their tech notes.
Snapchat or something like that does that.
That is the problem we're facing today.
Here's a question.
Yes.
Is one game enough if you're trying to say, hey, this isn't acceptable?
Well, I don't know, because had it been the N-bomb, it would have been more than one game.
Oh, yeah.
Nah, you know, I think you're right.
So are we praising them a little bit too much
if they didn't even give them enough of a penalty?
I think this is a lot by NHL standards.
We're plotting progress.
How's that?
Yes, which is...
We're not there yet.
If we're celebrating, it's like that cartoon with the...
Like we're not...
It's worth celebrating.
It's worth being somewhat optimistic about,
but you're right.
But, like, what are they going to do?
Hammer him with ten games?
No, if you want to send a message.
That would send a message for sure.
Nobody ever do this again.
You give him five games.
Yep.
Five playoff games.
Well, this is the problem, though.
Like, do they have five playoff games left?
No, they just go into next season, right?
That is true.
That is true.
Well, beyond that.
It would suck the whole summer.
There would be this, oh, and Shaw is going to miss the first four games.
Yeah, and that would.
Or whatever, of the next season.
and you know
the thing is too
I think
I think
it's not about
the amount of games
it's that there was
a game assigned
in the playoffs
I think that that
is so key
because the NHL
could have easily
come in here and said
we're going to
fine him 25 grand
devil's advocate
Sean Avery made
the sloppy seconds
comments
to Dion Phaneuf
which I had kind of
forgotten about
I think it was
Greg Wyshynski
tweeted about it
he goes
the NHL has suspended
people for words before
he got six games
for that
wow
I don't remember.
Now, I'm sure that wasn't Sean Avery's first rodeo,
so that maybe played into the six games.
What are you talking about?
Oh, they kind of invented rules around him and other things.
But he got six games.
Regular season games, but six games.
I bet if he doesn't come out with that apology and the way he said it,
he gets more because timing is very important in all this right the next morning you know and he's
he's in his i'm sorry suit you know yep and uh how often do you catch a player talking in a suit
um on like a game day or something before the game or or before the game or they're always
they're always in some kind of workout gear because they're working out when they put on a
suit serious he's wearing an i'm sorry suit i i and he says it the way he says it and then they
put down the suspension because if people i think if if it didn't come across sincere i bet he gets
more i agree i agree i i again i want to reiterate though i really believe that people should be
allowed to recover from their mistakes and we don't often allow for that now especially with
the internet especially with how easy it is to pull up people's histories and as certain mistakes
and i'm not i am not in any way condoning what happened but what andrew shaw does from here
will be the true version of what andrew shaw is if andrew shaw learns from this and moves on and
if the nhl moves from this and it moves on and this creates the change then something good came
out of it
and I want
I want people
to keep that in mind
as hard as that is
because that's a really
tough concept for people
because something
wrong happened
something really
wrong happened
but you've got to
allow people
to move on
and we've
all
all of us
have said inappropriate
things
all of us
have made jokes
that are off color
all of us
okay
nobody's sitting
in a glass house here
however
no everybody's sitting
in a glass house
everyone's sitting
in a glass house here
everyone's sitting
in a glass house here
my house is made of steel
well that would be a very jesse answer to that of course but i i just i hope that this is the thing
that we look back on and go this is a this is a good person who made a huge mistake who moved on
and it created a change and good for that and and maybe this isn't the greatest comparison but
people don't dislike matt cook because he hit one guy one time no like you know over and over and
over again now while I would like to see this guy get forgiven and I would like to see him be able
to he's got to earn that move on he's got to earn it but also his feelings aren't the most they're
not paramount no here no and it's it's funny a lot of people were saying well the player he said
that to should man up he didn't say it to a player at least I'm fairly certain he didn't
I think he said it to an official.
I think he said it to an official.
Well, the official should man up.
Man up?
Now, look.
What?
It's not about hurting that player's feelings or hurting that official's feelings.
It's that saying that to hurt someone's feelings might hurt someone it actually applies to his feelings.
Wow.
You know what I mean?
What if there's a six-year-old kid at home watching?
Oh, there's plenty.
Well, I mean, I would like to think a six-year-old doesn't, you wouldn't know.
They do.
They absolutely know.
Ask someone who's gay.
ask them ask them when they knew no no i'm sorry i meant the word oh like they see the
lip then they're asking what is that word they go use it at school i knew what that word meant
not at six seven or eight oh okay early you know i mean anyway that's besides but that's the point
right it's it's that sort of thing that like it is it is so so important that that we you know
and if you want to trash talk like that then play rec league play rec league with your buddies where
it's acceptable somehow for you to use that word and it's not by the way this is where a message
needed to be sent andrew shaw got caught yeah but they're all doing it oh my god well i don't know
about all some some enough absolutely yep yep and it's not good look okay
let's try to find
let's inch towards progress here
so often that's what it is
I know
just a slow crawl
if you're listening right now and you're disagreeing
you're disagreeing
you shouldn't have been suspended for that
can we agree that you shouldn't say that
okay
can we find that middle ground
I think we can agree on that
not everyone does
but some of you
If you are on the other side, but you're nodding your head right now, okay, you shouldn't say that.
How do we stop people from saying that?
Now, your argument might be, well, you shouldn't stop people from saying that.
And, well, I got nothing for you.
I got nothing for you.
But I think you'll come around.
I think most of you will come around.
I have faith.
I agree.
I agree.
This one guy was tweeting at me talking like a Dragon Ball Z villain, like, oh, you think someone should be punished for their words.
That's a pity.
that's something
Frieza would say
a Saiyan thinks
he can defeat
the mighty Frieza
that's a pity
lots of people
are punished
for their words
but the little dork
was 19
or 20
or something like that
and it's like
you're young
I used to be dumb too
yep
you'll come around
said tweeted
Facebook some dumb things
in my time
continue to
continue to
that I'm sure
that I'll hate
when I'm 40
I do want to say
this too
okay so
moving on past
Mr. Shaw to Mr. Schilling
I got a lot of the same
arguments and that's the reason I'm bringing them up in the same breath
I think Kurt Schilling is
10,000 times more serious than this
Andrew Shaw thing not that they're not both serious
but Kurt Schilling is a
outward unabashed
bigot homophobe
are you sure or does he tell it like it is
that's
so here's the deal
I notice a lot of people who tell it like it is
They seem to share the same opinions
Adam, should a man lose his job
For expressing his feelings
And telling him like it is
He feels this way, he's just writing it on his own Facebook page
Yes, he should, yes
If he makes a company look bad
He works for that company
He represented ESPN
And I'm saying Curt Schilling and ESPN right now
Why? Because he was employed by them
So if I'm ESPN
And this is like the 10th time this is flipping happening
He posted stuff
This is just one meme
He posted this stuff all the time
I really want to say this
I really want to get this out
I got the argument that
While he wasn't actually slamming
LGBTQ people
He was slamming pedophiles
Because in the meme it says
Well that'll allow a man to go after my daughter
In the wrong bathroom
If you're confused by the way
You need to go look up the whole thing
Google it
Save us some time on the air
Google it
Here's the problem with that.
Google Curt Schilling fired, by the way.
Don't Google other words I don't mention.
Yeah, it's true.
The problem with sharing something like that
and sharing something like, you know,
comparing all Muslim people to Nazis,
which he also shared.
Was that another one?
That was one that he shared, and he survived that one.
They employed him after he shared that.
So this was a straw that broke the camel's back?
This was the straw.
Somehow, the Nazi-Muslim thing,
no not the straw
this is the straw
guys
well and you know
what though
we figured it out
we've already figured
it out
why he got fired
okay
because it was always
Curt Schilling
Curt Schilling
Curt Schilling
how could Curt Schilling
say this
how could Curt Schilling
say that
and then finally
last show
obviously our show
wasn't the reason
but we asked a question
that a lot of people did
screw Curt Schilling
why is ESPN
allowing this to happen
yep
but what if he had
one of those little tags
in his Twitter bio
that said
views are my own
doesn't matter
You still represent the company.
You know what? No.
And anybody who says that views are my own.
No, that means something.
That makes it safe.
You can post whatever you want.
I hate people that write that.
Are you kidding me?
Views are my own.
It's your Twitter account.
Of course the views are your own.
And the RTs are not endorsements.
Really?
Shocking.
Now, here's what gets me.
And I want you to really watch out for this in life.
Because what's Curt Schilling's main argument in sharing that meme?
Well, it's the safety of his kids.
He wants his kids to be safe.
which is why those North Carolina bathroom bills are going through.
That's why you've got to – that's why.
It's the safety of the children.
Really?
The safety of the children.
Give me a break.
Give me a break.
I care about safety.
This is what they'll do.
This is what they'll do.
They'll say, your kids are in danger.
We need to do this thing to take away people's liberties.
That's what they'll do.
And it's a smokescreen.
Do not fall for that crap.
You are so much smarter than that
I think what they actually want to say is
I don't want to because
Ew
Because ew
That's weird to me
But I'm going to
Hide it under the smoke screen of
Safety
Because I don't understand it
Because I am not intelligent enough
To actually delve into the issue
To actually get in there and understand it
Now why are you guys wasting so much time
Talking about this stuff
I thought you guys were a sports show
This is sports.
This is sports, and sports are life.
Why do you think there hasn't been an out NHL player yet?
Well, Adam, that's because it's a man sport.
Why do you think there hasn't been an out MLB player?
Well, because it's a man sport.
Or just recently there was an out NBA player who wasn't even out while he was in the NBA.
Well, that's because it's a man sport and you need to be...
No, it might have something to do with the fact that the environment is toxic
and needs fixing
and I think it is
slowly getting fixed
but while it is
getting fixed
slow as it is
other people
are suffering
by the way
I just want to let you know
Curt Schilling was talking
about those
washroom laws
in North Carolina
yes
you know who's against
those bathroom bills
oh
Donald Trump
oh
Donald Trump
is against those bills
he is
he
Curt Schilling
is so freaking whack
I thought he was going to say
the NBA commissioner
well that too
which would have been
It's so much more applicable.
But no, no, no.
But look at it.
He's so far out there that even Donald Trump's like, nah, man, nah.
Donald Trump says a lot of things, though.
You're right.
Adam Silver did say there will be no all-star game in North Carolina if these laws do not change.
And good for them.
Good.
And Charlotte.
And again, a lot of people were like, oh, look, it's the NHL.
Again, following.
Just following.
well i would love to see the nhl take a lead take a lead on something i i think they're terrified to
take a lead on anything because it might garner criticism i've heard a lot of things about dave
branch a lot of opinions about dave branch he's the commissioner of the chl canadian hockey league
sorry apologies um and uh he really hammers guys for hits he's changed the rules in junior hockey
a lot and i mean a huge chunk of the nhl had to come through the chl yep and people have people
have said over the years why what is the reason dave branch doesn't take an nhl job why wouldn't
surely some nhl team out there would want him surely the nhl would want him why doesn't he
take an nhl job well you can debate the reasons behind that all you want thank goodness dave
Branch is in charge of the CHL
and not someone else because
at least at the grassroots level
at the before the NHL level
there's a forward thinker
in the before time
he in a way forces the NHL's hands
in a lot of things
and sometimes it takes the NHL literally
5-10 years to catch up
but they do because they have to
because the league is so foreign
to the young stars coming up in it
so Dave Branch is a hipster
a little bit, a common sense hipster
Sipping his paps and making rules.
Protecting players.
Because safety never takes a vacation.
More like sipping his tea, because that's none of his business.
And we learned how backwards the NHL can be when all those emails leaked.
And we saw them refuse to do anything.
Yeah, like, can you imagine those minds budging?
Like, you ever get into an argument with someone,
and like, two sentences in, you're like,
what am I doing with my time?
Yeah, somebody tweeted me about Curt Schilling,
and you're going to get mad at him because he had free speech.
I said, if that is where you stand
If that is where you stand
I am not even going to have this conversation with you
And that's where it was
I'm like, I'm not arguing with you
I'm not going to change you
Anyway, we're coming back on Sportsnet 590 The Fan
Jesse's changing the video camera as we speak
And we're going to come back with things that are not this
We're going to come back with some hockey
And some Conor McGregor
Oh my god
And is Steve's prediction about the Flyers coming true?
Come back
We'll find out on Sportsnet 590 The Fan
is Steve's prediction
about the Philadelphia Flyers
coming true
because they
quietly
very quietly
tiptoed into a victory yesterday.
Very, very quietly.
And we heard nothing.
We heard nothing.
Are we finally talking about sports?
We're talking about sports.
Thank goodness we can get back to sports
and not things that make me
have feelings and thought.
Oh, wow.
They got one win.
By the way.
Try three more.
So, Flyers fans were redeemed.
They didn't throw hundreds of wristbands.
on the ice.
Because they apologized
and they moved on
and we let them.
Yeah, very good.
How do you act from now on?
Flyers won.
Flyers won 2-1.
2-1 over the Caps.
And they win.
They stay alive in the series.
They earn everyone's respect.
Hey, you at least
didn't get swept.
Even if they end up
losing to the Capitals,
there's something about
at least we didn't get swept.
Because the Capitals
had 53, 54 wins?
How many wins?
56?
Many.
And three of which
were in the series so far.
There was a moment, though,
that stuck out in that game
and if we're talking
about suspensions
someone should be gone
for a long time
uh
Brayden Shen
what happened
did you see it
no I didn't
Jesse can you bring it up
so Adam can see it
have you seen it
I have
it's brutal right
um
probably you should have
got something there
okay so Orlov
um
was decked from behind
by Belmar
uh huh
um
and he got one game
Belmar got one game
for that
cause it was kind of
a dirty hit
from behind
right in the numbers
uh
some people didn't think
it was enough
whatever
but like
Belmar
at least
according to a few people
who tweeted at me
showed remorse
you know
there wasn't that much
intent there
but they're punishing the action
you still have to
punish the action
agreed
so we got a bit of a punishment
for it
what Braden Shen
did to Evgeny Kuznetsov
even if
Kuznetsov is fine
the intent
was to put
Kuznetsov out of these playoffs
with what he did
Adam wait till you
freaking see this
He crossed
Oh you got it up Jesse
I got it
You got it up
Let's see
So there's a scrum
In front of the net
Scrum about to take place
In front of the net
There's
Kuznetsov right there
Here comes Braden Shen
Whoa
Cross checks him
Right in the side of the knee
On purpose
Because there's no argument
Of what he was trying to do
Wow
He was trying to bust his knee
And take him out of the playoffs
That's a career
That's a career
Shortening
Injury
And it's interesting
Because it's not
Easy to cross check
That low
He cross checked
No, it was 100% on purpose.
Oh, for sure.
I mean, like, there's no question about that.
But, I mean, like, he had to literally hunch over to cross-check him that low.
That's terrible.
And this, again, is another one of those things where, what, Kuznetsov's fine.
No.
You got to punish the intent, and you got to make him feel stupid.
Like, you almost got to make him feel stupid that he wasn't injured.
You know what I mean?
Like, you're sitting five games, and you didn't do a damn thing to that man.
Looks good on you.
Looks good on you, stupid.
Like, I've met Braden Shen.
It's just such a dirty play
It's just such a dirty play
I was really put off by that man
It's intent, it's the intent of it
Very Bobby Clark-esque
Wouldn't it be great if through the NHL suspension process
That you had to apologize publicly
You know what
I think people should apologize when they mean it
Naked
Uphill
In their father's pajamas
You're naked, you can't wear your father's pajamas
Shut up
It's a commercial from our childhood
I don't know
I just
That really put a damper
On the game
But
If I can bring
All the Flyers fans
Back into my corner
You know
I've seen you do this
Before Flyers
I've seen you do this
Before in 2010
Against the Boston Bruins
No
Never happened
And hey
I've seen you do it
And I've also seen
The Capitals choke
In the playoffs
Sorry Caps fans
I'm sorry
I'm sorry
I love your boy Ovechkin
I'm sorry
But
I mean we're all brushing
This one game off
I have a question
Still one game.
I have a question.
Adam Wilde.
Going into,
thank you, sir.
Going into tonight,
now when you actually listen to this show,
this will be outdated,
but going into tonight,
there are five series at the free one.
More than I would have thought.
I'm going to rattle them off for you.
Yes.
Okay.
Dallas,
so the former North Star,
the former stars,
the former Minnesota and current Minnesota.
There you go.
Dallas is up three to one.
Okay.
Not surprised.
St. Louis is up 3-1 over Chicago.
That's a surprise.
San Jose is up 3-1 on Los Angeles.
That's a surprise.
No.
Tampa Bay up 3-1.
Wow.
I thought you had the Kings.
No, I have San Jose.
Oh, okay.
I'm trying to do a thing.
Tampa Bay up 3-1 on Detroit.
Not that big of a surprise.
Capitals up 3-1 on Philadelphia.
Not shocking.
Okay, so I've just named 10 teams.
There are five series.
Which series has the best chance of a massive comeback and a Game 7 win?
Kings, Sharks.
They've done it before
Not when Martin Jones plays at a level
We haven't seen him ever play at
Which he's been doing
It just occurred to me that Martin Jones could knock the Kings out of the playoffs
Which would be so much fun
The year after he was traded
That's why you don't trade in your division I guess
Well they didn't though
They didn't did they
No they gave him to Boston
Damn Boston those big jerks
If I was Dean Lombardi I'd be like
I am not doing business with you Mr. Sweeney
So there
funny how that happens
funny how it works
I actually think
it might be Chicago
and here's why
oh no
that's another good pick
which leads us
to our next
our next story
which is
Taze and Kane
are now reunited
oh my
reunited
because it
feels so good
um
so
is that gonna make
a difference
eh
I looked at that too
people were like
Taze
Kane
reunited
and I was like
you know
it's just two guys
playing on a line
and they haven't played
together all year
and Panarin and Kane
have been really good
together
and part of what
makes the Blackhawks
so good is their depth
you know
it's okay
you just got
I'm sorry their depth
their depth
did I say it like that
no
okay
their depth
and you know
part of what
makes them so
awful to deal with
is you got
Taves
and you're on the ice
and you're trying to
stop him from scoring
and you do a good job
of it
alright guys, get off the ice, you did a good job.
Next shift, it's Patrick Kane
and whoever the hell you send out with Patrick Kane.
And the next shift, it's
I don't know, Marian Jose if he's not on the line
with those two. And after that,
it's just, it's waves,
right? And I think
a big strength in the playoffs is being able
to wear players down
and teams down
with depth.
Yeah.
I just, I don't know. The Blues are a deep team.
Blues are a deep team.
It's rough.
And thank God nobody said Detroit
because I would have thrown you out.
Go Detroit.
Still cheering for them.
You had them going to the final, didn't you?
No, I've been winning a round.
It's not very likely.
I have Tampa winning that series for sure.
I don't think Detroit's that good.
No, they're not.
I think next year they're going to be real.
They were fighting for their playoff lives this year.
What's next year going to look like?
I'm telling you, Lee fans.
that whole division
is pretty mediocre
yep
prime for the taking
um
so I guess
we'll switch gears again
Conor McGregor
yes
which we talked about
last show so
undoubtedly
uh
you've heard that
Conor McGregor
sort of retired
um
in two seconds
and has come out
with a Facebook post today
talking about
why he's not retired
and why he was
not okay with the
the whole setup
with the UFC
not flattering to Dana White
essentially it was they wanted him to promote the fight yeah they wanted him to show up to this
thing uh i think it was in vegas or whatever it doesn't matter and it would have it would have
been a huge delay in his training and he's saying i need to start living the way that got me here
and you know like one of his most recent twitter pictures is uh it's him with a bald head no
tattoos at all it's like this is me in 2012 uh nothing in my pocket but holes just so irish
Nothing in me pocket but holes
And you know
I can't hate him for this
Because as a huge Ronda Rousey fan
A huge Ronda Rousey fan
I couldn't help but wonder
With every passing 30 second
Or less victory
God she's in movies now
She's writing books
She's in commercials
Posing for Sports Illustrated
I remember there was like a week where I was like, oh, she's on Kimmel.
Oh, that's cool.
That's cool.
Oh, she's on like Leno.
Oh, cool.
Oh, she's on Fallon.
Oh, my God.
And she's doing the late night circuit.
I don't know if she was on those shows specifically.
But yeah, she was doing the media rounds.
And which is fine.
Which is fine.
And it built a profile for her.
And, you know, she's a great fighter.
And she trained a lot.
But a lot isn't enough.
A lot is enough for
Betch Koaya
I'm basically taking Joe Rogan's
Explanation of this but
I mean I agree with him
You can't
Prepare for a fight like that
You can't give anything less than 100% against Holly Holm
And she lost
You can't give anything less than
100% against Nate Diaz
Who's two weight divisions up by the way
Two weight divisions up, he's taller than you
He's the bigger man
He is good at things that you're just not good at
He's good at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you're not.
You know, he's got to give his everything.
And he was basically saying, I don't feel, I can give my everything by doing all this promotion.
Now, the UFC has come out and said, listen, we offered to fly him out on a private jet.
And we offered to ship his equipment from, is it Iceland that he trains in?
Portugal, I believe.
Is it Portugal?
He's holed up in Portugal.
Both.
Okay.
so they offered to set up his gym in vegas the exact way it is set up back wherever he trains
and it would be ready for him the second he got off the plane but he still would not do it by the
way this cost him 10 million dollars so he and by not fighting it's 10 million dollars yeah by the
way dana white uh i hope he's not so headstrong and so stupid that he has developed an allergy
to money. Have him fight at UFC
200, Brainwave. Are you serious?
They're not going to let him.
And one thing Conor McGregor said in his
Facebook post was,
look at all the free publicity
I just gave the UFC
in this fight. With one tweet.
He said,
with the $400 million I've generated
for the UFC, I thought I'd have a little leeway.
You know what?
I don't hate this.
I don't hate this. What, are people going to forget
that McGregor's fighting Nate Diaz?
nobody
and he makes a good point
as much as I hate this
he talks about doing
local morning shows
radio morning shows and stuff like that
of which I'm on one
I host a local show
that is provincial
we cover several provinces
but we're by no means national
and
as much as I would want a guy like that
I don't want a big star on
especially if I was doing an all rock format
or something like that.
It makes sense from his perspective
to not want to have to do
10 shows in a morning like that
or 12 or 20.
I get it.
I get it.
Another man is training to beat his ass.
And nobody wants to talk to Nate Diaz.
You know,
I think hardcore MMA fans do.
I'm talking about mainstream media.
You're 100% right.
Nate Diaz isn't going on morning shows
in Patuka, Kentucky.
Yeah, you got to look at it the way...
Is that a place?
I believe so.
Cool.
I don't know.
Patuka, Kentucky.
There you go.
Anybody listening for Patuka?
Peabody, Massachusetts.
Peabody.
Peabody.
You mean Peabody?
No.
Did you know there's an athole, Idaho?
There's an athole street in Oshawa.
Is there?
Yes.
It's actually, I believe it's the street the GM Center is on.
Oh, really?
Yes.
That's amazing.
A-T-H-O-L.
Patuka, Kentucky.
Wow.
Jesse Blake, everybody, with the geography lesson.
He googled it by the way
In case you didn't see that
American hockey fans
Who don't know hockey at all
Or sorry
American sports fans
Who are not fans of hockey
Is what I meant to say
And those exist
They watch football, they watch basketball
Hockey, blah, why would I waste my time with that
But they probably know Ovechkin
And they probably know Crosby
And that's about it
people who don't like the UFC
I bet you they know
Conor McGregor
I bet you they know Ronda Rousey
and that's about it
now I get it from Dana White's perspective
because I'm always the one on this podcast saying
you gotta promote the game
but quite honestly
the UFC is freaking massive
and they
do a great job of self promoting
I mean tell me a bar you walk into
that doesn't have a UFC poster up somewhere
I understand them wanting to do
Promotions
Some promotion
There's got to be a middle ground here
And I think what
Conor McGregor is doing is right
Because what he wants to be is a champion
Because what will that do
If Conor McGregor is a champion again
Because he'll have to fight Jose Aldo or that other guy
Frankie Edgar
Both pretty big names
In their own right
What he'll have to do
If he's the champion, it is good for the sport
Promotes the sport even further
Because he is then the champion
You want your best guy to be the champion
Don't you?
I think he's relinquished
He's going to have to relinquish that belt
Like I can't imagine
Because there's an interim belt being fought
Yeah because he's not fighting in the division
Which is so stupid
Oh my god
And at
How long do you need to be
Training and at 170 pounds
Before it gets really really hard
To just willy nilly shed 25
Well I don't think he'll fight Nate Diaz
For a while now
Like if he even happens again
It's got to happen at 200
Dana, use your freaking head.
Like, use your head.
He's tough, man.
But if, yeah.
Tough is often a synonym for stupid.
This is, yes.
This is the retirement-unretirement rule.
If you retire, you have to sit out at least four months.
That's the rule.
He said he's not retired, though.
Yes, but because he claimed retirement,
the UFC is saying,
ah, but you did say you were retired.
Eh, we'll see.
No, no, that's what they're saying.
I'm not saying that that's the way it's going to go down,
but that's the rule.
Ah, UFC, think of all the rule bendings
you do, all the guys with dirty
steroidy past that you let fight,
just let
them fight the thing.
This was your press conference.
This was your press conference.
Congratulations.
I'll fix your bum life.
Give you all the press
and whatever you want.
My Irish sucks.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
Does he fight at 200?
Yes or no? UFC 200?
I was about to say
200 pounds
wouldn't put it past him
I'm going to say no
I'm going to say yes
I'm going to say no
because Dana Head
Dana Head
Dana is
what's his last name
Dana
White
I almost called him
Dana Harvey
Dana
Dana White
is hard headed
and
he
probably is looking at this
from a perspective
I need to draw a line
in the sand
before some other fighter
comes along and does this
I'm not going to let a fighter
bully me
yeah because when
Conor McGregor is 30
and he's done
when he's 30 and he's done
because that's what happens guys
some other fighter is going to come along
and if this precedent
is already established
this is not going to be a fun ride for him
I hope he's smart enough to realize no other fighter
is Conor McGregor
there's always someone else
there's a Michael Jordan
there's a Kobe, there's a LeBron
yeah fair enough
that is true
we're going to go on Sportsnet 590 the fan
not because we want to but because we've run out of time
quite frankly
you see there are
rules in
you know
other shows
in radio
yes
yeah
and
on the download portion
of this show
we actually
we actually have this segment
that you should probably check out
it's called
What's Up in Liberty Village
today
oh and also
we're going to take a look
at my Instagram
oh are we
oh we are
okay
well we'll get to that
on Sportsnet 590
the fan
well we won't get that
on Sportsnet 590
the fan
we'll get it on

by Panago Pizza
it is after all

it's what counts
that was our dinner tonight
it was delicious
I had a brain fart okay
you don't have to make fun of me
Steve is looking at
Steve is looking at
a salty headline
salty headline
that I just clicked off of
and I really wish I had
and here it is
cbc.ca
so far
the 217 million dollar
price
not looking to be
worth
the dough
for David Price
for David Price
SALT
he's played like
four games
and he's got a 70 RA
yeah I get it
but
forget his career
I'm gonna base my opinion
on him
off of these four games
by the way
31 million dollars
for a pitcher
that's over
if he wins 20 games
that's over a million
that's over a million dollars
a game
like a start
yeah
he's basically getting
paying a million bucks
to start
because pitchers
could start what
30, 31 games
just a million dollars
every time he takes
the field
okay
and just
if he pitches
nine innings
by the way
it's about
I don't know
110 grand per inning
doesn't that just
make you hate things
per three outs
but
makes me wish
I had better jeans
thanks mom and dad
is there
any way
your jeans were free
what are you
what are you worried about
ah
yay
you
I might have paid
for this
is 31 million dollars
live-up-able
when you're a pitcher?
Can you live up to that?
Like, you gotta win
the Cy Young every year.
Yeah, for that to be...
Like, you gotta be
the best pitcher
every year, period.
It's like when you tell me
Bryce Harper might be making
the...
50 million.
50 million is what
they're quoting with the Yankees.
Yeah, good.
Win MVP every year
or I will kill you.
He may just.
I will elbow you
in the neck.
He's so good, though.
He's so good.
It's ridiculous.
It's ridiculous.
So is David Price.
uh steve you you had something that you wanted to bring up about your instagram account well
you know i feel like we've uh started a thing every now and then the listeners latch on to
something uh-huh and it becomes very apparent that they've latched on to that thing and they're
not gonna let go yesterday i posted a video here i'll show you there oh that's you pushing the
heavy thing me running with a sled at the gym yeah want me to read all the comments i'd love
that because i'm sure they're good-natured and intelligent they started good-natured the first
one damn oh this person's impressed with my accomplishment second is this how dowdy trains
to not get the norse second you run like the weird kid in high school that would sprint from
class to class
in the hallway
hashtag
Doughty told me
to say it
at Adam Wild
happy belated
anniversary
I'm not sure
I get that one
I don't get that one
does anyone
oh cause my
anniversary post
on Instagram
oh there you go
was it C. Bishop
that wrote that
no it was
Connor Shaw
by the way
C. Bishop wrote me
he's like thanks
it's the most famous
I've ever been
thanks for the
shout out man
nice guy
does anyone have
a TTC pass
I can borrow
anyone need a balcony cleaning you look balconies you look fat
that's too old man we've got to be in shape to work for balconies
what's doing on i'm looking for someone to reprogram my kindle
this next one got me just because of the way they spelled it made me
think of how to say it.
Boy, where you learn...
Wait. Boy, who you learn
to run from? A bird?
They don't like how I run.
What?
May God
help you work out.
Hey, by the way, shout out to the person who
made the Minerva
Instagram account. Oh, that's from
Minerva the Believer. Yeah, Minerva the Believer.
Who has one picture and it's of
Jesus.
I don't think this one is actually
Based on a podcast joke
It's just
Hey jackass
Stop posting workout videos
I think that's a person
That doesn't listen to the podcast
Oh
Good
Or maybe that just
Doesn't get the jokes
Okay now can I
Can I share
I think I lost my keys
Can I share
They keep going
I
I have a Prince meme
Up from the Animaniacs
Ah yes
And it's funny
You can check it out
First
First comment
Do you have a printer
I can borrow
Second comment
So she can find Prince
But she can't find her lost keys
On Lakeshore
Three
that's nice
but could she help me
with my living room
light fixture
because it's
it's the female
from
the Warner Brothers
Dot
it's Dot
from yeah
they're talking about Dot
that's not bad
but could she recommend
a good balcony cleaning service
that's alright
but does any of
does anyone have
a Metro Pass
I can borrow
for the next couple hours
and by the way
yesterday I got a tweet
from somebody going
hey do you know anybody
that you could send over
so they could switch
my front car doors
with my back car doors
and I was like
cool
What's happening right now?
This is crazy.
Yeah, like, because the light fixture thing.
Oh.
And I actually tagged Steve, I believe, in it and said, Steve will do it.
Because, you know, you got to sign someone up for something they didn't sign up for.
Oh, there you go.
Remember to do that.
Remember to tag all your friends and sign them up for shit that they never wanted.
Can I read one from my Instagram?
Please.
It is actually five from meme master 7272.
He just wrote, Drew Dowdy doesn't deserve a Norris in five different comments.
Wow.
so thank you
well you're preaching
to the choir on that one
Jesse was the one
that started that
I agree with you
you know what
we didn't mention
in the last episode
so we
the first time we did
what's up in Liberty Village
we
there was a moment
where Steve was like
do not post on the wall
did I say this
did I tell you this story
well we know
about the story
so Steve was like
Steve was like
guys
guys
be cool
like don't
don't tell them
that we're doing this
somebody posted
on the
and we saw this come up
and it was actually Blake
who's also a member
of the association
she said
hey
there's this comment
on the Liberty Village
Association thing
and she's like
we are getting roasted
on the Steve Dangle podcast
right now
just so you all know
LOLs
and I said no
and by the time
I looked at it
they'd obviously heard Steve say
be cool guys
which
because they took it down
by the way
is another thing
where people go
I'm listening to a show
and I just got this
in my brain
and I need to get it
on my fingers
and into the screen
and then they go
oh, oh
and then I waited
a few minutes
and then they tried
to do another thing.
Give it a second!
Give it a second!
It's not live, okay?
Who might say another thing?
Give it a second!
Jesse,
are we doing
what's up in Liberty Village today?
We definitely can.
Okay, I think we should.
I think we should
and then we'll get
into the press conference.
Sorry, I didn't see
these comments just yet.
Hold on on that.
Hold on.
Jesse, Steve,
I need your undivided attention for a second.
Do we want to talk about how you dangle your dangle?
Oh, yeah, I want to talk about this.
Next episode, Liberty Village?
Yeah, let's hold off until next episode.
Okay.
Yeah, we'll hold off until next episode.
Yeah, yeah, we'll hold off because we don't want to kill it.
We don't want to kill it.
We just did it Tuesday.
Let's do it next Tuesday.
We'll do it once a week.
Yeah.
All right, so Andrew Peters.
Steve?
Oh, I remember him.
You don't.
Yeah.
That's because Andrew Peters probably played, what, 45 games?
No, no, he played over 200.
Oh, okay.
So Andrew Peters.
I saw it on his HockeyDB, which he has, by the way.
Andrew Peters.
Do you?
Do any of you have a HockeyDB page?
I don't think so.
I don't think so.
Steve made an untoward comment.
I don't know.
I'm so sorry.
Steve made an untoward comment about Andrew Peters.
Jesse, he.
Yeah, no, I did.
He, Andrew shot him.
Oh, did you?
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
Dropped it in.
How dare you?
I did not.
I very much did.
Steve Dangle.
What did you actually say?
No, someone tweeted me.
They're like, oh, are you even surprised or whatever?
And it was an exchange between Andrew Peters and Martin Biron, who used to be on the Sabres
together, I think.
I think.
Those were the tough years where no one cared.
They were.
Hey, Biron was a great Sabre.
there was one great saver in that conversation
don't
so anyway
let's not talk about great savers
right now because they're not making themselves look great
you're right
so Peters was basically
talking about the Belmar Orlov hit
and I think he said something to the effect of
Orlov sold it he's gotta be accountable
for his own
gotta keep your head up and all that crap
and Biron was like dude
if this was Ristelainen you'd be freaking out
right now
Which I thought was a great point
I thought it was a great point
And I don't know
I guess Peter searches his name
Which is hard
Because he's a firsty firsty
And he just
I don't know like a few days later
Started just going at me
Now hang on hang on
But you haven't told us what you said
Oh yeah someone showed me
And they're like
And so I just went
It's Andrew Peters.
What's your exact tweet?
He's some goon.
Let me look it up.
Let me look it up.
Because, dude, it was days ago.
Do you want to go through Andrew Peters' HockeyDB page?
Well, hold on.
Let's hold off on that for just a second.
I saw it earlier today.
It's a quick read, Jesse.
Hang on.
I remembered it.
It's a quick read.
Don't get into it yet because there's pieces.
There's pieces as we go.
Let us know when you got that, Steve.
this is the
this is the comment
by the way
that set fire
set fire to twitter
to NHL players
three days ago
he made this comment
but it set fire today
and you won't believe how
what's number four Adam
I don't know
I don't know
it's from BK Dubin
Dubin
okay
oh yeah she goes
what's
what is it with
Buffalo reporters huh
and I think
part of the reason
I said
it's Andrew Peters
is cause
it's not a reporter
it's Andrew Peters
yeah
um she goes never heard of him probably because he has no ties proximity to buffalo
so he does this a lot i take it and i said no but he was a goon famously mocked the leafs with a
golf swing and then uh and was then healthy scratched all playoffs and never played a game
there's one word in there that set him off that's the word goon yeah he didn't seem to like so so
Okay, so Steve, you called Andrew Peters a goon.
How dare I?
Can we now switch gears before we get into this conversation?
Oh, he favorited that tweet, so I guess he saw it.
So hang on, Steve.
Hang on, Steve.
I'm a goon.
All right, so let's go through Andrew Peters' HockeyDB page,
because this is important to later on in the story.
Jesse.
We can start with games played.
How many?
He played 229 games in the NHL.
Let me just go out and say it.
That's great.
That's a lot.
That is a lot.
that most players who ever play professional hockey or even in the nhl don't play 229 games
how many career goals four that's great most human beings on earth do not have four nhl
career assists three that's great because it shows he's a goal scorer career has more goals
Penalty minutes
650
So he averaged
Ish
2-3 in a game
3 penalty minutes a game
He fought a lot
I mean it's a fair
Description
Based on the movie
I think it's pretty fair
Yeah when Ron Hextall
Has almost as many career goals as you
Fair
Or Josie Theodore
Or Josie Tatar.
Marty Brodeur probably has more playoff goals than he does.
I think Nylander's already got him beat.
So Steve, what happened?
So he reads this tweet four days later, which is today,
and he reaches out to you and says what?
He's basically like...
No, what's he say?
Here, here, here.
Let me look it up.
Jesus.
I didn't want to have to talk about this.
Count on Steve to be prepared.
You do need to count on me to be prepared.
I am a fancy broadcast person!
But do you have a HockeyDB page?
I don't.
Did you play in the NHL?
I didn't.
Then.
Which makes me shit.
How can you ever talk about anything ever related to hockey if you didn't play on the
NHL?
So, okay.
I don't think he's very good at Twitter because I received a tweet at 2.27.
It's at me.
There's no context.
Like, there's no tweet attached to it.
And it's just him and it says, okay.
Okay, period.
Okay.
All right.
Would love to have you a guest.
This is your formal invite.
So he wants to have you as a guest?
No, no, no, Adam.
He wants to have me a guest.
A guest where?
I shouldn't rip him for that.
I spell stuff wrong on Twitter.
I guess maybe we should say that he does have a...
He has a radio show.
In Buffalo?
In Buffalo or...
I don't give a shit.
Like, I don't know.
Is it over the radio or in his head?
No, it's on the radio.
It's on the radio.
And he goes, what do you say, Steve?
It has a Twitter account.
I'm sure it exists.
Does it?
What do you say, Steve?
Let's put all your years of playing and knowledge to the test.
If you don't mind
coming on the radio with a goon like me,
I have a few questions that'll make your jaw drop!
Are those in all caps?
No, I just...
I've never heard of questions that'll
make your jaw drop!
Jaw drop or jaw? Jaw drop.
He works for a radio station in Buffalo and
mike.com.
You won't believe number...
Whatever line...
It's 32 because it's me.
The line he was on.
You won't believe number 32 because it's me.
This argument is just bye.
He goes, couldn't find your stats on HockeyDB though.
Must be exclusive to your blog.
Because I have a blog.
That's, well, I mean.
A blog.
I mean, none of what he said was incorrect.
No.
But it was almost as though he insinuated that because you never played in the NHL and
in fact wrote words for a living, that that makes you a less legitimate person to speak
to and take information from than, say, somebody with four career goals.
Hey, I have four less than him.
You have four less than him.
Someone tweeted...
You have four...
Hold on.
He has four more career goals in the NHL than you.
Someone tweeted, you know, what are you guys fighting for?
You guys are like 10 points apart.
And I wanted to be like, oh, seven, but who's counting?
And I said, sure, I'll come on.
Yeah, I'll come on.
By the way, I was right beside Steve when this was all happening.
It was great.
Anyway, keep going.
And he goes, we can recap your career, playing days,
and merit on which you deliver your message.
And I said, perfect, can't wait.
As in he's dissing YouTube now?
Yeah.
And he said, send them over so I can have them clear.
You played where?
When?
I said, unfortunately, I don't have a HockeyDB page.
I'm good to mediocre at NHL 16, though, if that counts.
So Steve's trying to be fun about this.
You're trying to be fun.
It does count, by the way.
You just say, my friend.
I'll come on your show, my friend.
You're trying to be, trying to levitate, like, not levitate.
You're trying to meet him halfway.
It goes, but you talk like a cup champ.
Oh.
A cup champ in chow.
By the way, I have 229 fewer games played in the NHL than Andrew Peters.
Four fewer goals.
Three fewer assists.
Seven fewer points.
But you know what?
We happen to be tied in NHL playoff games played.
so how about you don't talk like a cup champ uh i said this call isn't gonna happen is it
and he says there is no reason to have you on other than i invited you on there is no reason
to have you on you're not even a hockey player not even just a goon the only and then i didn't
respond so he just comes with that overhand right and he said the only thing you dangle steve is
your pecker wow dangle knows exactly what he did didn't know it would turn out this way this is
exactly how the conversation follows by the way right you're not skipping anything yeah and i
said lol i figured it would turn out this way you'd challenge me to call in i accepted and you
ducked he goes never heard of you sorry and then someone tweeted and there's this picture of um
zach alifanakis in uh in hangover with all like the numbers swirling around his head
And it's like, but you tweeted him.
And here's the best part about that.
That whole thing for me was the only thing you dangle is your pecker.
And I thought at that moment, and I didn't tweet this because I thought,
I got more to lose than he does.
Does that mean that if Steve only dangles his pecker,
does Peter's dangle his Peter?
just wondering
just wondering
Steve
I thought it was clever
also
also
how
how hard do you think
he worked on that joke
like how much cement
do you need in your head
where that's the best
you've got
hey man
no you know what
I
I mean
I mean really
I said a nasty thing about him
well not even nasty
I said an untoward thing
about him
you said a truthful thing
about him
no but
it's
it was
what did he do
we'll say it was defaming
we'll say defaming
And Adam
Work with me
Fuck
We'll see
What's defaming
Right
Untoward
And he caught me
Okay fine
Now I'm going on his show
So he can tell me
What's what
But he doesn't know who you are
Right
But then
Like
Imagine what a
What a segment
That would have been
For his show
That I've never heard of
And no one has
Imagine what a segment
That would have been
Peter says
Less Twitter followers
Than two of the people
In this room
And Jesse's gonna get there
yeah steve how many followers do you have over 40 000 andrew peters has 11 000 yeah and i'm not
saying that to diss him i'm saying man i could have helped your show do you know what's written
in his twitter bio what's written in his twitter bio i stir the pot for a reaction steve i think
you might have fell for a troll from andrew peters oh man you are the bigger person here
You have the bigger platform.
He got you to react and make everybody know who he is.
Wow.
Shit.
It wasn't I served.
Wow.
Take that, Steve.
I was going to tell Peters to stay in his arena,
but clearly he is a silent strategic assassin.
That kid's never been in an arena.
He stirs the pot for a reaction.
This is like that movie You Got Served
when all those kids got served.
Here's the actual thing, though.
Mr. Peters has stepped out of his depth.
And we saw exactly what happens
When someone steps out of their depth
And they invite you to do something
That they can't back up
I.e. he invites Steve on his show
And then pleasantly backs out of it
When Steve goes, okay
Because you know why
Andrew Peters grew up playing hockey
Steve grew up acting, writing, recording
Okay?
Talking
I'm glad the second word was writing
Acting like an idiot
well that too
that's fine
acting like an asshole
that's fine
there's nothing wrong with that
but that's what you do
not acting like an idiot
just
and
that is what I do
and the thing is
is that now
Andrew Peters doesn't play hockey anymore
he's now in
Steve's lane
and Steve's better
so
maybe
I think of Andrew Peters
maybe you know what
how about we do this
are you thinking what I'm thinking
you guys
get on the ice
have a little fight
I agree
fair game you're right yes but no no it's a spelling bee fight so you can only throw a punch
if you can spell a word properly see let's not pretend like i'm much better at spelling though
dude that little red line in microsoft word that helps me a lot how about you both record
reaction videos upload them to youtube the person with the most likes and uh views no for every view
you get, that's how many punches you get
on the ice.
I don't want one.
I don't want one.
I just think this is a great viral video.
I'd be really excited about this.
Local blogger dies.
I just think, you know what?
How about we officially invite Andrew Peters
to call into the show?
Absolutely. You know what? He's welcome to come into
the studio if he wants to make the drive up.
Adam, let's not make any rush.
I'd love to have him on.
Mr. Peters, I know you're listening
to this
because you very clearly
checked yourself out
and are googling yourself
so I'm sure your name
will come up
and yeah
and by the way
you follow me on Twitter
so that's cool
follow me too
did you follow him?
no
nope
good
but he is more than
welcome to come on
and maybe we can
bury the hatchet
you know we've made
a little bit of fun
we had a little fun
to hit his expense
he'd be the first
former NHL player
on the show
that would be great
love to have him on
yeah
I want to see you guys
fight still
I would love to see
them bury the hatchet
and just
and just call it a day?
The hatchet is very much buried on my end.
It was just a very bizarre exchange
that I thought I would bring to the show.
The best tweet that I...
Asked me to come on the show,
I said yes,
and he said,
bet you jack off.
Bet you dangle your dangles.
My favorite tweet of the whole day.
That is literally...
Favorite tweet about the whole thing
was somebody going,
the only thing sadder than this thread
is Andrew Peters' time
with the New New Jersey Devils.
Which, by the way,
five seasons.
Didn't know that.
He was with the Devils?
Oh, no, five seasons
with the Sabres.
Oh, yeah.
I was going to say,
I only ever knew him
as a Sabre.
So we're going to call it
a day on that one.
Whatever.
We've now given him
far more promotion
than he deserves,
but he's more than welcome
to come on.
Disagree.
I said a nasty thing.
I will do...
That is not a nasty thing.
Stop saying that.
Adam, I said this nasty thing
and I will do this
one favor for him.
Andrew Peters
was on the NHL ice
when he was there
to fight.
And score goals, Adam.
And there was a
term for that
and it's goon.
There's a movie
called Goon.
Look it up.
It's very good, actually.
With goons in it.
Yeah.
George LaRock was in it.
That's an offensive term.
How dare you?
You shouldn't use that.
You're right, Adam.
I have left that word behind.
Let's not hurt their feelings,
those former NHL fighters.
Can't use that.
Can't use it.
You're right.
Let's do the press conference.
One game suspension.
The Steve Dangle Press Conference.
Adam.
Yes.
We need to revisit last press conference.
Okay, what did I do wrong?
Hawk Floyd wants to know,
Adam, why is your taste in guitar so bad?
Oh, whoa.
Yeah, somebody tweeted me today and tried to tell me
that Randy Rhoads was a better guitar player than Eddie Van Halen.
So what's Hawk, what's his...
He wants to know why are they so bad.
No Dave Gilmore.
No Jimmy Page.
Why I didn't say that I didn't like them.
This is what I hate about saying I really love this thing.
Because everybody automatically assumes that you hate everything else.
You know?
It's like saying I love peanut butter.
You don't love jam?
The hell's wrong with you?
You don't like bread?
You don't like a peanut butter and jam sandwich?
I love Jimmy Page.
I love David Gilmour.
Eddie Van Halen happens to be my favorite.
Okay.
I got a similar message, actually.
uh by the way hendrix was by the way hendrix was way more innovative than eddie van halen
not that eddie wasn't great you could say hendrix opened the door and eddie walked in
haha just saying adam rocks and i saw his his leather pants lol that's from my dad
well if steve's dad steve's dad was alive when all that happened so i'm gonna go with steve's
dad on that one because he's got uh jimmy hendrix pictures all in the basement of the house i grew
up and i actually he is a huge hendrix fan have you ever come do you remember ever coming home
when your your your mother or your stepmother in my case was not going to be home and your dad
happened to be home early and and what happened in the house that particular night it could be
a tuesday or a wednesday and how things changed because i know for me i used to i come home my
Let's say my stepmom was staying out late for dinner.
And my dad would have the house just rocking.
My stepmom's not big on loud music.
My dad, the windows would shake.
And I walked in one day and he had the Jimi Hendrix experience going so loud.
Literally, the dog had wedged itself underneath the couch because it was so afraid.
It was just like, I had to go and find him and pull him out.
It was awesome.
I was like, wow, he's still a kid.
I, by the way, I could tell no one else was in the house because again, the house would
literally shake because my dad's a drummer.
Oh, just fucking, yeah.
Sorry.
I moved your laptop again.
Like you could hear it from, I remember being like three doors down, walking home from school
and being like, I think I can hear my, I got to the front door.
I'm like, that's yeah, that's my dad.
Just rip it.
I can hear it.
Gary's the man.
Gary's the man.
there's a bongo
in the living room
and because of course
or no sorry
it's a djembe
oh
it's different
and he played it
like
unexpectedly
one time
when Iggy was there
and Iggy
ran to the front door
like tail tucked
between his legs
and would not
come back into the living room
aww
that's hilarious
I had to like
coax him
like look it's fine
it's fine
get him to sniff the thing
dude
play the f***ing thing
um
we should get
Steve's dad
to a Marley's game
and get him to play
the bongo cam
He would take it so seriously
Yeah he would
He would
By the way
We're working on something
With them
So stay tuned
Okay
Yeah
Tickets to the
Calder Cup Final
I didn't say that
I know
And that is definitely
Made up
But we are working
On something with them
Steve I believe
You have something
With the Marlies up
On Sportsnet soon
Oh yeah
No
I mean
Keep checking
The Steve Dangle blog
On sportsnet.ca
Google it
The Steve Dangle blog
Ah god
I'm going to have a lot of Marley stuff over the next little while
and hopefully throughout their playoff run.
What went up yesterday?
I did one about how Kyle Dubas is staying with the Leafs.
Lots of people have offered their take on it.
I offered mine.
Hopefully it was a little different.
I posted a video today that is the fan's guide to the Marley's playoff run.
Their first round starts very soon in Bridgeport
against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
That's the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.
on paper the Marlies
should kill them
and
but
you should have done
a hitchhiker's guide
a hitchhiker's guide
if they don't kill them
though they're in trouble
because it's a best of five
okay
and so all it takes
is three losses
and you're out
coming up
I don't know if I should
yeah sure I'll tease it
gonna do something
on the Goldies
because people keep saying
who's gonna start game one
I personally think
we're gonna see the Marlies
have Garrett Sparks
and Antoine Bibeau
start games
throughout these playoffs.
I don't know that
to be sure.
Sheldon Keefe joked
last week that
the media is probably
going to find out
who the Game 1 starter is
during the National Anthem.
And I believe him.
Yeah.
I believe him.
So we're going to have
something going up
on the goalies
and also
going to go into depth
on the man,
the myth,
the legend,
Nikita Sashnikov.
Cool.
And his line mates,
Freddie Gauthier,
And Rich Kloon, I sure hope he doesn't get taken off that line
because that will kind of ruin the piece a little bit.
But that line has stuck together for a long time.
And everyone who I asked, I was like,
who would you take out of the Marlies lineup?
For everyone who said Kloon and Gauthier,
I hope it sheds some light on why they would never do that.
Now, when we were at the Marlies game,
did we talk about the fact that Rich Kloon fought the wrong guy
in a particular situation?
Rich Kloon killed the wrong guy.
Just so there's a, I forget who it was even against the last game, but
Grand Rapids?
Grand Rapids.
So somebody from Grand Rapids makes an untoward hit on one of the Toronto Marlies.
It was a dirty hit.
And Rich Kloon is like, nah, nah, not in this house.
But instead of grabbing the guy that laid the hit, he just grabbed a guy
with a Grand Rapids jersey on and filled him.
And we're like, this is hockey fights mid-80s.
Unbelievable.
It was crazy
You know what I talked to him
He's super cool
I think you'll all like the quotes
When you first meet him though
Like super intimidating man
Super intimidating
First of all he's twice as wide as anyone else on the team
He's like a pro lifter
Like go look at his Instagram
Okay if you want to see an actual
Fit person workout
Don't look at my Instagram go look at Rich Clunes
And look at the goofy stuff he picks up
holy smokes
and another thing
is when you're big
like that
if you have
like the big
brash personality
whatever
to match the bigness
if you have the
big brash voice
it's almost
less off-putting
because it matches you
but he's
you know
just really
you know
kind of soft-spoken
and you know
just you know
just kind of a nice guy
just kind of really
soft-spoken
and that's almost
more intimidating
because he's the
soft-spoken
quiet giant
it's like Tyson
when you hear that voice come out of that body.
Next question.
Does the camera actually add
10 pounds? Because if it does,
how do 10 pound weights exist?
Wait a second, what?
I thought someone was going to
call us fat, by the way.
All cameras weigh 10 pounds.
That's the answer?
Jesus, you blew my mind with that one.
I wish I had something better.
I don't even get it.
How does a camera add 10 pounds
and also take a picture of a 10-pound weight,
would that weight not look 20 pounds?
Take a picture of one tonight and see if it works.
Yeah, see if it looks 20 pounds.
If it just magically switches to a 20.
Yeah, I don't know.
That's too much for me right now.
I've been up since 4.30.
Last question.
What would Mark Madden have to say about class?
By the way, Peter's totally Mark Madden'd you, by the way.
Oh, I know.
Come on my radio show.
You can't come on my radio show
I don't know who you are
Show me your HockeyDB page
Show me
Okay well no
No you can't come on my show
That 15 people listen to
I wonder if Andrew Peters
Has ever had somebody
Who never played in the NHL
On his show
And if he has
I guess who's coming on next
Patrick O'Sullivan
On his show
On my NHL
Oh he's going on his show
Uh huh
Oh no way
Yeah
I hope they talk about Alex Burrows
Just saying
That's funny
I was talking to Patrick O'Sullivan
The other day
That's pretty interesting
But Mark Madden
Oh
I think
You know what Flyers fans
What they need to do is show some class
They gotta show some class
They gotta be a classier city
I think he would go the complete other way
And he would just say it normally
Because there's something about
The word class
In a headline
Or in a tweet
That just makes it seem that much more
classy you can't just you can't scream class unless you're me you can't scream class and
have it have the same effect you know makes sense that's fair i mean what you expect mark
to yell so that's why that would make sense okay all right well with that gentlemen we're
gonna wrap the show up unless there's something that i don't know because jesse just pointed
his computer at steve steve what are you reading steve's reading this man real patrick o'sullivan
Wow, this tweet is just all over the place
Don't read the radio station
No free promo
No, no, I'll give it to him
No, no, no
No, no
Sit, sit Iggy
Go
This man, real P.O. Sullivan
His hockey story
And more on the show tomorrow at 10am
Strength, perseverance
And courage
So if you listen to this before 10am in the morning
Tune into whatever station that is
You'll hear
Strength
Don't
Perseverance
And courage
Do you ever promote your radio station like that?
No
Strength, perseverance, and courage
Because I know no one would read that and go
I'm going to tune into that
Give them a real tease, Peters
Come on
Thank you
I think we could become friends
I think you could too
But until you're
I think we all could
But until
Wow
What an optimistic way to look at life
I think we could all be friends
But unless and until he comes on the show and we find some middle ground,
I'm not saying he has to apologize.
I'm not saying you have to apologize.
What is the middle ground we're finding?
I don't know.
Right?
We're not debating anything.
I think if you could come out of the conversation friendlier than when you came into it,
there's some middle ground there.
Okay, fine.
I thought we were going to debate like the Orlov-Belmar hit.
Because that's kind of what it was.
I'm sorry.
Do you want to talk about hockey with this person?
I mean, I don't think you're qualified, quite frankly.
Where's your hockey DB?
DB pitch.
It's on my blog
It's exclusive to my blog
Here's what I want
I want what the Steve Dangle hockey DB page would look like
Oh no
And you make up the stats
So it can be whatever stats you want it to be
But you gotta tell us in the legend
What the stats mean
How many years would Steve be stuck on the Arizona Coyotes
I'm thinking like 8
What's a blogger DB page look like
Like would you have
Leafs TV stats
CBC stats
Or is it video stats?
So it's like number of times you've said class.
Or is it number of times you've been upset about the Leafs losing?
I don't know what it is.
Views by year.
How many LFR years are you at now?
Stop making it something legitimate, sir.
It has to be illegitimate.
Views by year.
Views by year.
Thanks, Buzz Killington.
We appreciate it.
Free clothes per year.
Free clothes per year.
There you go!
Steve was never able
to replicate 2010
he was never able
to replicate
that's a big year
it was real good
that year
man
I had a good
I hope that was
a contract year for you
it was apparently
yeah
I wasn't signed
to a very long year
I mean it's better
with my employment
per 60
employment per 60
needs to be something
there you go
can we include
the zoo years
as well in that
you know
and how many
elephant poop stories
you told on that bus?
Oh, man.
I told a lot of
elephant poop stories.
A lot of animal poop stories.
Keep the masses entertained.
Yeah.
I still say in the summer
we should do a zoo episode.
I think I actually
were talking about that
the other day.
I thought here's what
I was thinking for the
for the podcast
when we were off.
So we were we go down
to one episode a week, Jess.
Yes.
So after the
after the draft's done,
we're down or free agency.
We're down to one a week.
I think it's after July 1st.
And so what I think
we should do is
take a couple of those weeks
and do twice a week.
One of them is zoo stories
Just total zoo stories
The next one is
Wags
Wives and girlfriends
So we do a
Oh I just understood that
Which I told you this before by the way
Save some of this for the drive home
So what I think is that we should have
Do you guys have an hour worth of
Wives and girlfriends stories?
No no no we have them on
And we have them on separately
So we have Mrs. Dangle on
And then we have Caprice on
Just me just telling an hour's worth of stories about her.
That's not going to be a good thing.
No, what we would do is just set it up.
So you set it up where our listeners ask whatever questions they want
to his wife, my girlfriend, and they got to answer.
And that's the thing, they got to answer.
Even if the question is, who is your hottest first degree relative?
Got to answer the question.
Wasn't that one of Jesse's first shows?
Yes, that was Jesse's first show.
we record those two
and instead of doing
three best ofs
we do one best of
and then those two
we'll just play
at a later date
I don't know
we got a few months
to figure this out
we'll figure it out
okay
anyway I think
I think Zoo Stories
and Wives and Girlfriends
I think that would be great
because then you get
a real insight into
just what a pain in the ass
I am at home
and how much I toot
for real
oh
Mrs. Daniels just like
you know
alright let's do this
I'm ready
I know Caprice
will be hesitant
for the first about
five minutes
and then once that
wall comes down
I'm never gonna recover
like I'm screwed
but that's okay
I mean it's not like
I haven't said
all the dumb things
so we're gonna wrap it up
we will see you next week
we're all exhausted
in the meantime
we'll see what happens
with Mr. Peters
probably
