Panago Pizza presents S.C.P.
The Steve Dangle Podcast with your hosts, Steve Dangle and Adam Wilde.
So, I want to start the show by shouting out Shelby.
Shelby.
Shelby tweeted us today, and it didn't quite make sense at first.
So she said, thanks to at Adam Wilde, at Jesse Blake, and at Steve underscore Dangle,
all of our Twitter handles, for showing me who Mike Francesa is.
You got me a date this evening
Y'all the real MVPs
What?
So she courted Mike Francesa
So I tweeted her back
I'm like
Did you
Are you dating Mike?
Like
Is that
Is that what's happening?
She's like
Oh hell no
She's like
So I was in a bar
With this guy
Who's from New York
She was just in a random bar
And this guy from New York
Happened to be talking there
And he said
He said something about Mike
On New York radio
And I turn around
And say
My Francesa is a gem
We keep talking
He's impressed
that I know who that is,
I gave him my number
and he called me
and I have a date.
Dude.
Amazing.
Imagine if now
those two hook up,
get married,
have kids,
one of them becomes
like president
because of our show.
Wow.
Because of Mike Francesa.
Wow.
Or scores the winning goal
for the Islanders
in game seven
of the Stanley Cup
at Barclays Center
and half the arena
doesn't see it.
Yeah,
it's not going to happen.
It's a third-rate organization.
Yeah,
exactly right
they don't know
about the hockey business
I don't know
about the hockey business
so yeah
congratulations
I told Shelby
to keep me updated
I want to know
so next episode
we will know
how Shelby's date went
nice
hopefully
if the date happens
I didn't actually ask her
when it was
we'll let you know
it's going to happen
it's going to happen
that's a story we're tracking
that's definitely something
we won't get back to
now later
later on in the show
we are going to talk about
the Penguins goaltending situation
and
why the Boston Bruins fans
are so upset.
Well, and Penguins fans
potentially by the time
they hear this.
Well, that's true too.
Also some news
out of Chicago
and Edmonton
and how their rebuild
is going
and how Peter Shirelli
excuse me,
sees it going
and what he might do
with that fourth overall pick.
You couldn't even get through
saying Edmonton Oilers rebuild
without like
your body wouldn't let you.
You're like,
this isn't a rebuild.
This is a monstrosity.
Well, according to Peter Shirelli,
it may not be.
Oh good
Chia Pet's at it again
Now
Okay
Here's a question
That zipped right over your head eh
It did
Oh oh
Chia Pet
Oh
Come on
How is no one called that
You know what
I'm glad that zipped over my head
That wasn't good
I'm kind of glad my receptors
He would have laughed
I think Peter would have laughed
Somebody's called him that
Peter Shirelli would have
Absolutely not laughed at that
Really
No he's only been getting that
His entire childhood
You know how many people
Gave him like noogies
And they were like
Chia Pet
Yeah that's true
And it's just perfect
Because he's got that
Little stubble of hair
This is what I'm saying
Okay maybe I shouldn't
So if we ever have him on
I shouldn't call him that
Or maybe he has
That kind of hairstyle
Because he fully embraces
His nickname
Maybe
Maybe
Sorry what were you
Going to say
Before I so rudely
Cut you off
Goodness I don't remember
Okay
Oh
When was
Okay
So Shanahan and Babcock
And company
They come out
And they say
Look
We're going to stink
We're going to be
Really bad for a while
And you guys
Are just going to
Have to hunker down
And deal with it
Right
Name another organization
That did that
They all have a GM that's like
Folks, we're good
Brian Burke
Hey, I'm not interested in a five year rebuild
Peter Chiarelli
Remember those Bruins?
I did that, that was all me
That was all your boy Chia Pet, right here
Yeah, well there's some stuff that he did in Boston too
That's led to their current predicament
No, no, no, I got a cup
I got a cup
How many cups you got?
You're right, you're right
Got zero cups
That's right.
He's got one more cup than I do.
Exactly.
Yeah.
I'm stuck here tied with Andrew Peters in the amount of cups.
The thing, though, the thing I feel like we really need to lead the show with today is a story.
It's story time.
Goody, goody, gosh.
Jesse, do you want to tell the masses, the millions, what you did today?
Oh, my goodness.
Oh.
I learned something.
What did you learn?
how did your morning
first off
how did your morning go
set it up
oh it was good
it was good
I woke up this morning
to a text from
Adam Wild
who's that
he's on this show
I believe
he has zero cups
same as Andrew Peters
he's one of the most
beautiful people
in the country
as told to me
by a magazine
he knows famous people
by what belts
they carry
like if you have
a giant one
that's kind of gold
you might be a UFC star
by the way
I interviewed a wrestler
today for NXT
that I had never heard of
Finn Balor
he's going for the
championship title
if Justin Fisher
is listening
he just chokes
did I say it wrong
he was really nice
I don't know
because there's some
giant wrestling fans
out there
who are just
yelling at their
radio
if you're watching
NXT you're insane
I mean insanely
intense
I don't mean like
you're insane
so Adam Wilde
told me to get
Stephen A. Smith
on our radio show
oh yeah
now why did I tell you
because Stephen A. Smith
had to apologize
to the entire
nation of Canada
after he said
we had no chance
against the Cavs
And now it's 2-2.
And he sure was upset about having to bring his passport north again.
Oh, I have to go through customs.
And as long as we're talking about self-absorbed jerks,
when Jesse said that, I thought he was talking about this show.
Oh.
Well, that would have been great, too.
You know, our sports show.
No, no, no.
It would have made sense.
You wouldn't come on a sports show.
Anyways, so I looked into it, got in touch with the ESPN PR, emailed them.
They emailed me back.
You emailed them?
I did.
Oh, okay.
That makes sense.
That makes a lot of sense.
So they replied via email.
That's cool.
Oh, okay, good.
It's always nice to get an email.
Yeah, I agree.
They told me that if I want to put in a radio request, I have to send them a fax.
Sorry, can you...
All right, first off...
Oh, I skipped a part of the story where I traveled back in time in my time machine that I own.
I was just going to ask.
Yeah, what year was it when you went back?
1991.
Cool, okay.
So, again, repeat for everybody what it is you had to do to get an interview request
for radio put through for ESPN.
So, the biggest sports company on planet Earth asked me to send them a fax in 2016.
Now, Steve, what is ESPN's tagline?
Do you know it?
We love faxes.
It's the worldwide leader in...
Know the facts!
That should be the name of Stephen A. Smith's name.
Know the facts!
Oh, my God.
We did it.
Wow.
We can just stop now.
We're done.
High point.
Costanza.
Table flipped.
It's over.
It's over.
That was a bat.
That was a bat.
Steve just bat flipped, Rangers fans.
Don't come at him with your fastballs.
Oh, we're continuing?
We reached peak show.
Yeah, that's true.
I should have just cut it off there.
Segment boom commercials.
Let's go.
Know the facts is the best thing we will say on this show.
Oh, yeah!
Tell them, Skip.
Tell them.
So, the actual tagline is the worldwide leader in sports.
Oh, okay.
Now, imagine if you are the worldwide leader in sports,
the amount of requests from various radio stations,
probably some of your own,
because they have many, many radio stations with the ESPN moniker,
whether they're owned by their parent company or not,
most of them are not.
They just buy the brand and license it.
Imagine the amount of requests that you would get for top ESPN personalities.
And like it or not, Stephen A. Smith is right at the top of that pyramid.
Oh, yeah.
What about Skip Bayless?
He doesn't work there anymore.
Oh, yeah.
He went to Fox Sports 1.
I suppose that's a good point.
That's never been said on ESPN ever.
Which would never be said yet.
Never.
Never.
Never.
Adam looked at me like, well, that bit's dead.
See, that's why they have it.
Because that's why they fight each other like that.
because if you agree, then it's over.
Right?
That's why you keep going with, oh, yeah.
That's so dumb.
Anyway.
Oh, yeah.
Imagine if we could never agree.
Oh, my God.
Well, that's how they build the shows, man.
That's how they do it.
All right.
So, again, back to the fax machine thing.
Can you imagine the person,
and I imagine, I would hope that they pay for someone.
It's not like that minor league baseball team
we were talking about
that has seven jobs
for one intern.
You are the mailman.
Also, you do the on-air announcing.
Also, you cut the grass
in the field.
Also, you clean the toilets,
make pancakes for the players,
that sort of thing.
That means there's a room
with a fax machine in it.
Possibly multiple fax machines
because what happens if...
Fax machines, what do they do?
They break down as a rule.
Oh, my goodness.
This thing is a suck.
Can you imagine?
They have that guy
and he's trying to fix
All of the world's sports leader
Or whatever the hell they're called
The know the facts network
Monitoring the three facts machines
For the know the facts network
I was thinking
Imagine you were that guy
Imagine their
What's the proper term
I guess ecological footprint
Oh my goodness
They are single handedly responsible
For all the rainforest
Deforestation
That's ESPN
My fax confirmation came back in like half an hour, so I was pretty impressed.
I am impressed by that.
And how did they respond, Jesse?
They responded via email.
What is this silly garbage?
Hold on.
No, I didn't even know that.
Yeah, my good friend Diane, who I'm now good friends with.
What's up, Diane?
After I guess they got the fax confirmation, she was attached to two other people.
So three people had to verify and tell me that Stephen A. Smith is a little too busy to do radio press right now.
That is understandable.
That's fine.
I get that.
Stephen A. Smith should be busy.
You know how quickly you could have found that information out without faxing?
I mean, now you know how to send a fax.
I learned today for the first time.
I'm going to YouTube a few courses.
I want to learn Morse code.
I don't even know how.
I don't even know how to send a fax.
No.
I don't know if you'll ever need to do that again.
this might be the last time
the one and only time
ESPN
like you don't even need
a fax
to get government papers
done anymore
all you have to do
is download
the camera scan app
and it fake scans for you
that's what I do
same
same
I was at a Marley's game
a few weeks ago
a couple weeks ago
and I forgot to bring
my press pass
like an idiot
I just forgot
okay
happens
yeah
and so
talked to someone there
nice lady
she's like
alright
okay I'll take care
of that for you
Comes back to me a couple of minutes later.
All right.
I sent the email.
I go, what?
Sorry, what?
I emailed who I had to email and they're looking into it.
I'm like, can you call them?
No, no, no.
It's against policy.
What?
I'm like, sorry, what?
So I'm sitting, I sat there for like half an hour.
I missed like most of the first period.
I'm like, pick up the phone.
Pick up the phone.
I'll walk down the hall.
That's where you can call and see him.
It's not that big.
Can I walk to
Can a security guard
Make sure that I don't
Steal a seat
It's against policy
To make a phone call
Oh it was driving me nuts
I'm that old man
Screaming at a cloud
Just use your phone
It's called a phone
Just use it for what it's for
There are times
Where I can't stand
Text messaging people
I'd rather call them
Yeah
If I want something done
Right away I call them
Like it's a super novel concept
Yeah
Hey hey cool
Need this done
Boom bye bye later
Like if I need to
Explain something to Jesse
Or Steve I call them
See a couple weeks
pass, and now I'm that jerk complaining about the Marlies.
There you go.
Now I'm that hoity-toity media person going,
oh! Them and their minor
league ways.
How dare they? Did you get into the locker room,
Steve? When you wanted
to? No. I bet you didn't.
I bet you didn't. The Pope also
didn't make me onion rings
at halftime.
Or whatever other... I was expecting
that, too. Goofy requests were made.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about,
but that's good. I also didn't see the dog
driving the Zamboni.
They promised that.
What the hell
are you guys talking about?
Anyway.
The pineapple dancing
in the tutu?
That never happened.
I just thought
everybody should know
that somewhere
there is a person
in Bristol, Connecticut
in Bristol, Connecticut
with at least one
maybe three or four
you would hope
backup fax machines
going through
the fax requests
every single day.
That's their job.
They live in Bristol.
This goes through
Bristol, Connecticut?
Yeah, that's where
ESPN's headquarters
are randomly.
I don't know
there's a whole
no it's in between
New York and Boston
oh that makes sense
and like the whole
east coast
and it's close enough
to New York
so yeah
apparently the ESPN
book by the way
is amazing
and there's some
like really great
insights on
you know the start
of Chris Berman
and Aaron Andrews
career and that sort
of thing
I don't know how
accurate it is
but apparently
it's very entertaining
is it as good
as the Sportsnet book
it is definitely not
which has not been
published yet
but I can't wait
I can't wait
I can't wait
for the dirty gossip
on Steve Dangle
it's not as good
as Sportsnet magazine
oh
Oh, now there's a tie-in.
There we go.
Let's talk some actual playoff hockey.
So we've got Pittsburgh tonight on the brink of an elimination at the time of this podcast.
So there's going to be a couple ways that you're going to take this, hearing it after the game's over.
But I still want to play this for you because I think it's very interesting audio.
Somebody asked the coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Mike Johnson?
Mike Sullivan.
Mike Sullivan.
Why do I always think Mike's?
They swapped mics.
Mike Johnson was, yeah.
Right.
So Mike Sullivan is talking about, the reporter asked him,
Okay, so who are you going with in net?
And Mike Sullivan says,
Mark Andre Fleury not.
He says, Matt Murray.
That's a very peculiar thing
for Mike Sullivan to say.
Listen to this clip.
Seems really sidetracked by the playoffs.
Verbated at all.
Says it verbatim, man.
Says it verbatim.
Yeah, ready?
Ready?
So here's what he says.
Matt Murray's our starting goaltender
and the reason,
just like we make all our lineup decisions,
we try to put players on the ice
that we think has given us the best chance to win.
Matt and I had a conversation.
We always do, just like Mark and I have conversations.
What is said in those conversations are between us,
but certainly we communicate with our players
on a regular basis on the decisions that we make
and preparing them to move forward.
Now, first off, he's not great with his mic technique
because there's a lot of poof going on here.
Second thing I want to bring up...
A lot of popping peas.
Yes, exactly.
exactly
but the other thing is
he doesn't have his water on hand
so he gets the pasties too
sorry for all the speakers
we just blew
popping all those peas
we're not just going to
recreate that SNL bit
with the gym teacher
I don't know if I've seen that
alright nevermind
we can't make the reference
and nobody in the room knows it
sorry Jesse
thanks guys
sorry man
thanks guys
I think he's justified
we should know that
but
okay so
come on Adam
This sounds important.
Saying Matt Murray.
You're just doing nothing, Elbit.
If Matt Murray gives you the best chance to win,
if Matt Murray gives you the best chance to win,
why then was he not in net in game five?
Well.
He's taken them this far, right?
Right.
And we had this discussion last show,
and that's why I'm bringing it up again.
Because I said last show,
I'm like, it's got to be Matt Murray.
It has to be Matt Murray.
And you guys actually said
I believe
One of you at least said
Might be Marc-Andre Fleury
And it's understandable why, right?
Yeah, I made the argument
That you don't lose your job to injury
Like if you're the starting goaltender
And you get injured
You shouldn't lose your job
Just because you got injured
And you're a starting goaltender
And you're right
And it's not as though
Marc-Andre Fleury came in and played bad
He had a couple lucky bounces
Looked a little tired in overtime
But
Well, and this is what I'm talking about, right?
Like you gotta
You gotta work off a bit of the rust sometimes
You gotta
You gotta play through some things
This isn't the time to be playing through things
This is the time to be playing at your absolute best
And how could he possibly be at his best
And is Marc-Andre Fleury
At let's say 85%
Is that better than Matt Murray
You would think so
Because he's like what 21
But that's not what I've seen so far
In these playoffs
So how does
And this is pure
I'm asking your opinion
We don't know anything
But how does that
Game 5 decision
Come down
Is it Jim Rutherford saying
That's our goalie
Is it Mike Sullivan saying
That's our goalie
Is it Marc-Andre Fleury saying
Come on guys
I'm your goalie
Like what
Come on guys
Come on you guys
Like what
Come on pal
So then
Cause instantly
Because he lost
And they only lost in overtime
Remember
Goalie loses in overtime
Usually not even the goalie's fault
Usually
Right
Good chance
That's a weird
That's a weird little theory there
I mean because
The thing is
I mean, there are some obvious bad situations,
but a lot of the time, the reason the game goes to overtime
is because the goalies have kept it tight, right?
I know that there are big, glaring instances
where goalies have really blown it in overtime,
but for the most part, you get to overtime.
Chances are, in the playoffs, it's not a shootout.
Statistically, that theory is a mess.
Practically, I get it.
Okay, thank you for giving me that.
I get it, and I'll, yeah, I get it.
I might be wrong.
I'm cool with that.
But still, how does that decision come down where you're like,
hey, Marc-Andre Fleury, nope, now not.
To me, it seems like someone's hand was forced.
Could be.
Or, you know, covering this Marlies playoff run,
because I've never covered a beat, you know?
And, I mean, I've only been to—
You've only walked the beat, really.
Oh, shoot.
Yeah.
I've only been to, like, a dozen or so.
I was just trying to truck through that, and I couldn't.
Oh, my God, Adam.
We're on fire today.
I couldn't do it.
I'm trying to outdo your ESPN, man.
It's never going to happen.
Peak show.
Peak show.
Peak show right there.
Listen, you're making jokes, and I'm just trying to tell you the facts.
Steve SPN.
Whoa!
Okay, that'll do.
Thank you, thank you.
Golf clap, golf clap.
All right.
But one thing I've noticed in the dozen, couple dozen, or whatever games that I've been doing this for,
is with regards to injuries,
especially around this time of year,
shut up, don't laugh.
Especially this time of year, Adam.
I'm sorry, go on.
Especially this time of year,
there's so much we don't know.
Right.
Maybe Matt Murray was banged up.
Maybe.
That's why he sat game five.
Maybe Marc-Andre Fleury is re-banged up.
And that's why Murray's going to game six.
Maybe that's true, too.
But if, okay,
so let's say Marc-Andre Fleury is injured.
As the head coach, do you come out and say Matt Murray gives us the best chance to win?
Yes.
You do say that?
It doesn't mean it's incorrect, but is that not...
People are going to take that, whether it's true or not, as an affront to Marc-Andre Fleury.
Who are we talking about right now?
Mike Sullivan, Pittsburgh Penguins head coach.
What team?
Pittsburgh Penguins.
Okay.
Because I know a certain Pittsburgh Penguins superstar, like the day before, who guaranteed a Game 6 victory.
Really?
I missed that one.
of guinea milk and of course he did because now we're all talking about mike sullivan
narrative narrative and stories by the way speaking of that i remember leaving for the
long weekend after we had just done a show on the thursday yeah talking about narrative
lightning were up one nothing and gosh darn it did the pittsburgh penguins ever stink
they sure did that's what i was they sure did phil kessel goes on a tear
Sidney Crosby makes a pundit look stupid, scores an overtime winner.
Which pundit?
I believe that would be good old J.R.
And not the by God kind.
The one who works for someone else, I don't even remember kind.
He was a good hockey player.
He scored on the Leafs.
Made me feel sad.
Anyway.
Pittsburgh Penguins go up 2-1.
People are talking about how great Crosby is, talking about how great Kessel is,
talking about how great the Penguins are.
Damn, and Kessel's breath.
Isn't that a cute interview?
Oh, it was so cute.
That was one of Pierre's redeeming moments only, ever.
One of his only redeeming moments ever.
One of his top and only five.
I just threw a bunch of words in a cup and spewed them out.
Damn it, Adam.
Sorry, did you get that now?
It took a second.
I didn't want to get it.
And I'm like, just truck through it, Steve.
Just go.
That's a joke.
Like rugby.
Just get up, pick up the ball, and go.
Oh, my God.
I'm sure he's got more.
I'm just kidding.
So they're talking about how great the Penguins are
I go away for a few days, I come back
They're down 3-2
First thing I see is an article questioning Sidney Crosby's leadership
Wow
First thing, two games
Two games
Like four days
That's all it took
And he's a bum
And they can't do it with Crosby
Ignoring the fact that they have done it previously
Yeah, didn't they win a cup with him?
And by the way, this is why Ovechkin
If he retires without a cup
he shouldn't worry about it
because Crosby has one
and no one gives a damn
no one cares
he didn't get this magical respect
out of thin air
oh Sidney Crosby's got his
don't worry he's good forever now
no they don't care
it's long in the past
Randy Carlisle could ride winning a cup in 07
for the rest of his life
Crosby wins a cup in 09 and he's chopped liver
true
well that was 09 that's a long time ago
oh my goodness isn't it
The game was different then, Steve.
It absolutely was.
Did you know John Tortorella is the Stanley Cup champion?
That's true.
Also, well, 2004.
Oh my goodness, you're right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, okay, I think you burn enough bridges.
People throw the cop argument out the window.
I know Carlisle's still being interviewed.
And I know that Tortorella's still working.
Sure is.
Yeah, forget being interviewed.
He's got a job.
It's what the Blue Jackets don't only sort of counts,
but he's got one.
You like that Blue Jackets fans
Had you back on my side for a while
The nicest people in the league are Blue Jackets fans
Well besides Chicago
Chicago fans are strangely nice
No they're not
They're nice to me
I go after Corey Crawford and they're like hey man
Well they're probably like three cups
That's why
And I'm like you're right
You can be chill about it when you got three cups
Sorry all I know is I was salty tweeting the Blackhawks
Because I was at a Leafs Blackhawks game
the season where
the Blackhawks won
and I just got
flamed
by Blackhawks fans
flamed
fire and flames
but anyway
this is the narrative
we're talking about
a bunch of nonsense
frankly
I mean we're in
the final four
they're four
fantastic teams
they're four of the
best teams in the league
if Tampa wins
like where's the
credit for Tampa
it's all about
the Penguins
and nothing has been
said about Tampa
in this series
it's all about the Penguins
they're not playing
with their starting goaltender.
They're not playing with their captain.
They missed one of their best defensemen.
Maybe their second best defenseman.
Most of the playoffs,
we're not talking about them.
No one cares.
Jonathan Drouin is the only guy
who's gotten any press.
Where's Victor Hedman?
Where's the love?
Tyler Johnson, Nikita Kucherov.
Jonathan Drouin only got press
because his name was spoken
with Sidney Crosby in the same sentence
by Jeremy Roenick.
That's the only reason.
And nothing against Jonathan Drouin.
He's had a great playoffs, but...
Sure.
So has Matt Cullen.
I don't know where I threw
Why I threw that
That's all
There's the penguin
I had to go back to the penguin
I don't think Jesse and I
Didn't know what to say to that
Like it was just
I'm not going
I'm just
Bah
Going back
Ah nevermind
Nevermind
We'll talk about it later
But uh
I don't understand
Where the love is
For Tampa
I don't understand
Why there's so much
Hate for
Individual players
On the fence
Proud of my second team
What's that?
You're talking
In future assumptions there sir
I'm just saying
If it happens, that's the narrative.
Man.
Yeah, you're right.
That's going to be the narrative.
It will be the same as if the Raptors beat the Cavaliers.
Exactly.
LeBron lost it.
Not the Raptors won it.
LeBron lost it.
The Cavs' best player by light years.
Yeah.
He lost it.
One of the NBA's two best.
You can argue either way for Steph Curry or LeBron.
Yeah, same thing.
He lost it.
Now, when we come back on Sportsnet 590, The Fan,
we've got to talk about how Boston Bruins fans are upset.
And the reason that we need to talk about it is really because
we are three birdies who need a bath, and we're going to bask in this.
It's beautiful weather outside.
We're just going to wash ourselves of that Game 7 in 2013
and feel good because they're going the other way.
And this is, yeah.
I like it for the visual.
We're basking in this.
I like it for the visual.
Thank you.
Wow.
Wow.
That's two in a row.
I'm going to hold here.
We'll be right back on Sportsnet 590, The Fan.
It's the Steve Nangle Podcast.
So there was some happenings afoot.
Actually, you know what?
Before I start that, I should just say this podcast is brought to you by Panico Pizzas.
What's on the inside that counts?
Put it in your face.
Absolutely.
And Boston's inside's not looking so good right now.
We should have three body references there.
There's a happenings afoot.
There's happenings.
Oh, wow.
In your face.
Damn.
That thing you just said.
Sorry, you forgot?
It was a stretch.
I'll give you.
It was a stretch on my part.
I apologize.
Just moments into the segment.
Jesse's already spitting straight facts
Well
That's where you come from
We should have the fax machine noise play
Every time you say that
Yeah can you put that in in post-prod
We should definitely
Our newest segment
Dropping facts
No it's just the ESPN sound
I think that's licensed
I think that's licensed
That would be very expensive
Once it's on the internet
It's always on the internet
Yeah that's right
If it's on Instagram it's fine
Fair game
Yeah, absolutely
Now, Bruins fans are upset
What's the outcome?
Well, today they announced the signing of a 28, 29-year-old young man
Oh my goodness, Torrey Krug?
Not Torrey Krug
No
Who is supposed to get in the neighborhood of $5 million
That's what he's estimated to get this offseason
If you're a defenseman and you score 10 goals, like, once
Congratulations
You never have to work again
Your family for generations to come are fine
Yeah
You're fine.
If you're a right-handed shot, forget it.
Unless your name is Cody Franzen,
because for some reason nobody believes in you.
No, the world won't allow Cody Franzen.
He blew it.
He could have had that from the Leafs.
Yeah, Cody Franzen got royally screwed, okay?
I love spitting out theories on this podcast
because we were like, man,
Cody Franzen's got to fire his agent.
Yes.
And then people just flooded my DMs like,
I don't think it was his agent.
So you got to score 10 goals and not be dumb.
and you'll be guaranteed
that was a poor
financial move
on Cody Franzen's part
he also
I want to say
he saved the Leafs
from a poor financial move
because he would not
have been a fit for them
given what's going on
I can't think of
a highlight of his
from the past season
no I can't
which team is he on
Boston
or Buffalo
there you go
okay
I was going to go
5, 4, 3
you knew it
don't you dare
put that pressure on me
you knew it
now okay
he was rumored
to be going to Boston
For a while.
Maybe should have.
Maybe should have.
Because on the right side, in the third pairing spot, you've got Kevin Miller.
Oh.
Now, on Kevin Miller's best nights, according to Writers in Boston, who I read today, who I will shout out in just a moment.
Boston.
He, on good nights, can shut down some really good players.
They named Patrick Kane as one of them.
We'll get to it, okay?
Just listen.
I know.
I know.
Don't say something so ridiculous.
and expect us not to read it.
Okay, I'm sorry.
But today they announced...
Steve might be having an aneurysm.
You need to see Steve's face.
You gotta subscribe to the Steve Dangle Podcast
YouTube channel to see the face that I was just given.
I just want you to say that one more time.
Okay, let me just get to my point first
and then I'll re-explain.
No, no, no, no.
That wasn't just comment.
It wasn't even me
I know that
And it's this guy
It's DJ Bean from WEI
FM in Boston
He did a great piece on what's going on
And we'll get to it in just a second
But he said
That loud whirring noise is Adam backpedaling by the way
No what he said was
Hold on I'm just looking for the specific quote
Please tell me it was a Vander
Please tell me it was a Vander
If it was a Vander that would be good
I can't find it guys
anyway
pick a player
that he plays
more than once a year
anyway
he basically
they signed him
a 28 year old defenseman
who played 71 games
last year
5 goals
13 assists
53 penalty minutes
he's gonna make
10 million dollars
over the next 4 years
and you're saying
what is that
is that what
2 and a half
2 and a half
2 and a half million
we're great at math
as we were told
in the comments
of every social media
platform we own ever yep two and a half million bucks okay um now people are mad why are they so
mad two and a half million dollars for one nhl player pretty average steve what what possible
issue could there be it's kevin miller what are you doing you don't have to offer him 2.5 per
you don't have to offer him four and you sure as hell don't have to offer them both
this is one of those deals
this is one of those
classic
2013
2014
would you say
classic
classic
deals
from the 2013
or 2014
Leafs
who are of their own
class
where you go
it's not
that bad
but like 2.5 million
against your cap
isn't
like paralyzing
right
and four years
could be longer
could be shorter
could be longer though
this is one of those
just
random
half craptastic deals
that just slowly
murders your team
like getting stabbed
to death with a thumbtack
and it's interesting
what's happened
in the last two years
stabbed to death
with a thumbtack
wow
very graphic
okay
so in the last two years
you signed
you re-signed
Seidenberg
and you let go of Boychuk.
You re-sign McQuaid
and you let go of Hamilton.
22-year-old Dougie Hamilton.
Same guy.
And then,
when your team doesn't make the playoffs,
you re-sign your third-pairing right-shot defenseman
for which there would have been a market in free agents.
Don't kid yourself.
There would have been some market.
He might have made that.
But I don't think he would have made any more than that.
And I don't think he would have got four years from anybody else unless they're crazy.
So how does this deal?
And this is what I thought DJ Bean from WEEI in Boston did such a great job of in his article.
And I'll have Jesse link to it in our YouTube and our SoundCloud and stuff.
He says in it, and I think you'll agree, it's not the contract that is necessarily the problem.
The contract is a symptom of a bigger problem, which is you have slowly eroded all the great things that were about your blue line.
If your marquee defenseman wasn't born in the 70s, that's the thing.
Because what they had is they had a great top-line pair.
They had a great up-and-comer, and they had a great heart and soul guy, and they let two of them go.
I think what kind of ruined the lease is they spent so many years trying to become the Boston Bruins.
And now it's funny watching the Boston Bruins ruin themselves by trying to be the Boston Bruins
Like it's just it's just really
Well, I don't understand why they're being so loyal to this guy
I just don't
Like is this a Sean Thornton sort of thing where it's like he just holds that team together
He's just the glue
I don't get it. You know what? You know what this is though. You know what this is sort of
It reeks of a little bit
decent bottom pairing defenseman right-handed shot random money per year
kind of too much random term kind of too much boston bruins fans welcome to your own
jeff finger wow this is their jeff finger not the worst deal in the world but pretty bad also
they say, hey, he shuts people down randomly.
I can't wait until the article comes out where the
Bruins actually meant to sign Kurt Sauer.
Well, it actually says, controversial
but correct, Kevin Miller is a good
third-pairing defenseman.
So what? Those aren't
$2.5 million.
They're not. Matt Hunwick is
1.2. Miller could help take
star players, and in brackets
Patrick Kane and Tyler Sagan are examples
last season, could help take
star players out of games. Those are two
Western Conference players. What are you
talking about oh tyler second you had to you had to well it's boston you take you take the biggest
name american player you take a star that used to be on the bruins there's your catchy little
hey we got a good guy i still think you did a good job with the article do you guys want
comparables the only way he would have done a good job in the article is if he said this is a bad
deal because it is like okay fair enough fair enough did he argue that it's good he said he
said it's not the problem he said it's a symptom of the bigger problem he said it's yeah he said
it's a problem, but it's a symptom of
the bigger problem, which is the Bruins made
their bed, and now they have to lie in it, and it sucks.
And that's why Bruins fans are mad.
Let me be fair.
The Leafs had something like this a couple years ago.
Totally. They signed a
player who had a good season.
He had a good season. Like, Kevin Miller didn't have a terrible
season last year.
To my knowledge.
If you look at Pete Blackburn's
timeline today with all the gifts and all the
bad plays that he made, holy, he just
went off.
Did you see the first one
Where he found out
About the signing
And we can't
Say his reaction
On the radio portion
I don't think I did
We'll talk about it later
Okay
Anyway
So
A player
Had a good season
Wanted him to come back
To the team
The money they gave him
Per
Kind of messed up
The term
Kind of messed up
And the contract
Had me shaking in my boots
Leo Komarov
That's
That was a rough contract when it was signed.
Now it looks fine, obviously.
He's proven himself.
He can play in all kinds of roles.
But that could have gone either way.
That really could have gone either way.
Oh boy, you only got six spots.
You got six spots to fill every night.
Seven if you're fancy.
You got six spots to fill and you're spending 2.5 on a bottom pairing guy.
I don't get it.
Do you guys want some defensemen who make around that number?
love to gimme how old how old are they too roman polak at 25 makes 2.7 roman polak's 25
signing age oh oh i'm gonna sign the contract what that guy looks like he can be my dad
sakara andre sakara 2.7 uh tim gleason makes 2.7
why he was bought out you didn't have to pay him that much why did you pay him that much
How old is this?
Tim Gleeson doesn't still
It was 2008-2011
He made 2.7
Players who did make that
Yeah, they made this amount
Matt Green currently makes 2.5
Really?
Yep, through 2017
Ryan Ellis, 2.5
Jakob Kindle
Trevor Daly made 2.3
From 2008-2010
that's early on
in his career though
the point is
most of the guys
you're mentioning though
are not like
bottom pairing dudes
like
even if they weren't great
like they played higher
in the lineup than that
it's just
especially Gleason
on the Leafs
I mean
he was their stud
oh yeah
like but again
it's not
this isn't a huge deal
it's
but it's a
small to medium one
that's just bad
and you make enough
of those
kills your team
anchor contracts
and as I was texting
our good friend
Andrew Berkshire today
the Atlantic Division
Tampa
and who?
Who
am I to be afraid of?
I don't know
unless you're
unless Montreal comes back
and Carey Price is
Carey Price
Well
here's how the Bruins
line up on the right side
Adam McQuaid
Don't poo-poo
the greatest goaltender
in the world
Adam McQuaid
Don't poo-pooing
the most stubborn team
in the league
Kevin Miller
and a guy named Colin Miller
who I think played a few games
and then was sent down
to Providence last year
Colin Miller.
Now, apparently, they might have some interest in Kevin Shattenkirk,
but I don't know how they're going to afford him.
Interest in Kevin Shattenkirk.
What a surprise.
Do you have interest in going to the moon, Steve?
I have interest in having Stephen A. Smith on this show.
I have interest in that.
That would be great.
Have him come on and tell us some facts.
I would love that.
Is that the new class?
I think it is.
Facts.
Facts.
Class.
Also how they say Fox in Boston.
Oh, crap.
Come on!
I want to know if Mark's a bad fatter than Advax.
Facts.
Facts, thoughts.
Sorry.
What?
I'm just saying.
The other thing is, too, with this deal,
what struck me was that if I am Kevin,
if I am a teammate...
Kevin Miller!
If I'm Kevin Miller's teammate,
if I know of this deal and I'm an NHL player,
my contract is up,
who is his agent?
And how quickly can I sign with his agent?
You know, it's funny
I told you
It's a personal goal of mine
To one day
Be in the hockey news
Top 100 people of power and influence
I just think it'd be really cool
I'll even take the novelty 100 spots
I don't care
The Hyundai, as they call it
The Hyundai
But one year they gave it to
I can't remember where he slotted in
But they made Jeff Finger
One of the guys
And the reason is because
They were like
Imagine all of the defensemen
around the league going,
Woo-hoo!
My comparable for my next contract
is Jeff Finger?
Giddy up!
True.
We're all going to Cancun!
True.
This is awesome!
Absolutely.
Now it's Kevin Miller.
It's, look, hey,
maybe he does great.
Maybe he does great.
Maybe 71 games is the most games
he's ever played in the NHL,
and that was last year.
He does get hurt sometimes.
One of hurt.
He does get promoted
from the American Hockey League
late.
Recently.
Sometimes.
Hey, maybe
this show is approaching
its third anniversary
and we've said some dumb things.
Yep.
Over three years.
We may live to regret this.
Maybe this is one of them.
Don't think so.
And neither do Bruins fans,
so shut up.
If any Bruins fan gets upset,
I challenge you to look up
your own thoughts and tweets
from today.
Are they sensitive?
Are Bruins fans overly sensitive?
I haven't noticed that.
They seem to be pretty tough.
They're a little cantankerous.
Well, that I get.
It was funny.
I was talking to somebody from Sportsnet 590, the fan, today, and I won't say who.
Jeff Blair.
They said it was not Jeff Blair.
It was Jeff Blair.
They said it wasn't Jeff Blair.
They said the most sensitive sports group of people is 150% Vancouver Canucks fans.
Oh.
Without a question.
I was worried he was going to say someone else.
Jeff Blair told me that the other day.
It was not Jeff Blair, and you have never met him, and nor have I.
Steve knows him
and now
we play the waiting game
the waiting game
is all the Canucks fans
itching
to scream at us
that you just said that
and that we agreed
but knowing
that they can't
that they'll just be
playing into the stereotype
if they do
unfair
that's called checkmate sir
Canucks fans
I want to play a game
the rules are simple
don't be a whiny fan
We will tweet in the shade
It's a different movie
Different movie
But
Whatever
It works okay
It's your own reference Adam
Yes I can
Yes I can
Okay
Chia Pet
Whatever
Oh Steve you're doing this thing
Let me just skip to my thing real quick
I didn't have any more to add to his thing
So I gave him with a new thing
Adding to the conversation
Quotable
Playoffs?
No, that doesn't work either
Boom goes the dynamite
Since we're just throwing things out
I'm a man
I'm boring
Come after me
Sorry
Are you for it?
Or get it?
Oh, Sonny T, alright
Alright, so
Oh no
One final thing on the Kevin Miller thing
I was messaging someone today
I'll just say Andrew Berkshire
Screw it
I just didn't want to make it seem like he was the only person I spoke to today
But um
Like okay
What is the chasm
The enormous difference
Because there is one salary wise
What is the huge difference
Between Kevin Miller and Eric Greiba
For example on the orders
That's a good question
I don't know
What's the difference between Kevin Miller and Martin Marincin?
Or Matt Hunwick?
I don't know.
I mean, they might be different players.
What's the huge difference?
I'm sure they're different style of players.
But, like, the point, like, you could lock up a quality player
to play on your fourth line for two and a half million bucks.
You can do that.
It's a dumb way to spend your money.
Right.
I know, yes, you have that quality player,
but if he's playing that deep, then what's the point?
Well, and that's the thing that I loved about that article that I keep bringing up
is that you've got to have some great guys and then have guys that come in
and they fill the other spots.
And they may not make as much and they may not be superstars,
but for what you can get from the AHL, on average,
it isn't much less than what Kevin Miller gives you.
That's what I'm saying.
That's a spot for rookies.
And now you're paying premium money in term for a spot that should be for rookies.
Especially for a cap strap team, which they are.
Yeah.
Well, they, I mean, cap doesn't matter anymore.
We kind of know that.
No, and they bought at the deadline and whiffed.
Like, the Bruins aren't in a good spot right now.
They got some good players.
They're still in playoff contention.
They're not in a good spot, though.
I know the Don Sweeney bot's going to be tweeting us right after this show.
Have you ever got the Don Sweeney bot tweeting you?
All the time.
Yeah.
Hey, Steve.
Don Sweeney here.
Something ridiculous
That's basically the tweet formula
Whoever's doing it by the way
Congratulations it's great
Quickly I want to mention that the Blackhawks
Officially signed goaltender Lars
I don't know if it's Johnson or Jansson or Johansson
Because Sweden
But it's probably Johansson
Lars J
Known as the best goaltender in Sweden
27 wins 6 losses
1.74 goals against average
And 927 save percentage
In the Swedish Elite League
Interesting because they already have Scott Darling and Crawford
So you would think that it's probably going to be an AHL depth move
They also signed
The Czech defenseman Michael Kempny
Who according to our buddy Ivis
Kolnich
Yes, Ivis Kolnich
Did I get that right?
He says to me today
Two way defenseman, loves offense
Pretty great penalty killer
One of the best pairs of skates I've ever seen in the KHL
Should be a top four defenseman in the future
best KHL defenseman available
after Zaitsev. After
Zaitsev. Thank you, Ivis. Thank you.
Thank you for that. Which is great. But both
Blackhawks, eh? Both Blackhawks.
God, that's so unfair. Well...
That's so unfair. But that, you know what?
That's what you do. And that's where I would sign.
We're a cap strap team.
We gotta fill roster spots.
Mostly depth. Where should we go?
Should we take some guy already in the
organization, kind of mediocre,
and way overpay them?
or are there other options out there?
Hey, KHL worked out pretty well for us last time.
Let's try that.
How's that Swedish league doing?
Let's have a little bit of those Swedish goalie meatballs.
And we should probably mention that Jonas Gustafsson
was the best goalie in Sweden until he left
and signed with the Leafs.
Still an NHL goalie.
He's still an NHL goalie.
If you get NHL backup out of a signing
that you paid nothing for,
Pretty good
Oh people hate
Bozak
And have hated Tyler Bozak
For years
He was college signing
Leafs paid
Nothing
Nothing
For Tyler Bozak
Like
That one more time
How much did they pay
Nothing
Like okay
Say what you want about his contract
Fine
But the fact that they got him
Like
The fact that they used him
Improperly for like half a decade
Is not his problem
No
And it's not his fault
And he played great this year
On a terrible team
Sure did
I thought so
So we gotta go on
Sportsnet 590 The Fan
The show is brought to you
buy Panago Pizza. It is what's on the
inside that counts. That's right. That's the sponsor.
It's always been the sponsor. And when we
come back, we're going to talk about the Oilers
and Peter Chiarelli's plans for the Oilers
in terms of how they're going to jump
start this rebuild. Excuse me.
Again, I couldn't get through it. Also,
the Bills, the Buffalo Bills, have
a new media policy. And I think you're
going to find it très intéressant.
That's not French. That's
just me. No. And we're going to swear
to you. We are. Yeah. Sportsnet.ca
to download or subscribe to the Steve Dangle Podcast
on iTunes or Podstitcher.
I was just looking through my Twitter mentions
and I got something.
What'd you see?
Oh, I gotta bring this to the show, okay?
Gotta bring this to the show.
It's from a gentleman, I think.
I'm not good on Swedish names.
Nill Lindy.
N-I-L-L-E Lindy.
the swedish provider of nhl hockey viasat just quoted you in an article about the miller
re-signing oh you quoted you me and i thought oh they embedded my tweet nope
I agree.
I mean, personally, I don't think there's any,
there's no holes in that argument, right, Jess?
You couldn't have said it better.
Do you have any idea what you just said?
I probably just said all kinds of terrible swear words
and slurs
I hope not
you imagine
okay I'm gonna make
this look like a screenshot
did they translate it
for you
no
I mean it's my word
it is your tweets
are you sure
I mean
did they contact you
I am sportsnets blogger
Steve Dangle
did they not contact you
before they use your
I guess they don't have to
no
if it's on Twitter
I put it out there
on the interwebs
for the interpeach
that's what I look like
in Swedish
so something just happened
in the Pittsburgh
Tampa game
yes
there was a goal recalled
correct
Jesse
what happened
What happened?
I didn't catch it.
Oh, okay.
I just saw that they were under review and it said 1-0 and then it said 0-0.
Well, I saw a guy come up who I'm familiar with because of Family Guy.
His name is Will Wheaton.
Will Wheaton?
Who's a big hockey fan.
And Will Wheaton has this to say.
Video replays that stop the action to show things imperceptible to humans in real time
really add to the excitement of a hockey game.
Fucking A, Will Wheaton.
Fucking A.
Fucking A.
Absolutely.
Why?
Again, this goes back to my argument.
This is wrong.
We are going down the wrong pathway.
Either you have refs and you accept that there's going to be human error,
or you don't have refs and you let the computer do it.
I'm for that.
I get it right.
Well, it's got to be one or the other.
I don't care which side.
Just pick one.
Stop having a foot in both bathtubs.
I just...
Yeah, I did that.
Who has a bathroom with two bathtubs?
That's not a thing, Adam.
When you're me,
when you're me,
things happen.
I don't think Kanye West has that.
I don't think rich people have two baths in their room.
They just have a really big one.
You could never be in that situation.
You know who has two baths in the same room?
Couples from Viagra commercials.
That's it.
They sit in separate tubs
and they hold hands.
Or Cialis.
Or Cialis.
Let's be fair.
Fair enough.
Fair enough.
We have to be fair to
dick bill people.
You can't mention one and not mention the other, Steve.
I suppose you're right.
I suppose you're right.
Boy, this online portion is really...
Sure is good.
An online portion.
Sure is good.
For sure.
Internet.
I'm with Will.
I'm with Will.
You got to do one or you got to do the other.
Just throwing that out there.
Oh, and now that we're on the online portion, I can properly quote Pete Blackburn, who saw
the Kevin...
He saw the Kevin Miller signing and said, and I quote, fuck me sideways.
Pete's a Bruins fan, right?
He's from Boston.
The hot take police is indeed a Bruins fan.
And by the way, he embraces the Hot Take Police title.
Does he?
I DM'd him to make sure he wasn't sore at me.
He doesn't seem like he gets sore about much.
No.
Like, if he were to be told he was wrong or proven wrong or something, he'd be like, yeah, okay.
And every time he tweets, he gets like 150 retweets.
Goddamn, Pete Lappert.
Because he's funny.
Slow down.
I think he's gained, in the last six months, I think he's gained like 16,000 followers.
Like, he's just blown up.
Him and my regular face.
Just superstars.
Absolutely.
Shooting up.
And well-deserved.
Well deserved
They're doing a great job
Okay so
Let's talk about
Peter Shirelli
And the Oilers
And how the Oilers
Are going to win a cup
Soon
Say Chia Pet Adam
Just say it
Chia
Thank you
Chia Pet
So how realistic
Is it that the Oilers
To you
Before I read his quotes
How realistic is it
That they make the playoffs
Next year
Not very
Not very at all
Jesse thoughts
Opinions
I think
Next year is the year
They finally turn it around
Really
They're gonna do
McDavid is gonna lead them
To the promised land
Which is
Maybe squeaking
Into the playoffs
I think they'll be
In the maybe
That's the promised land
It really is
It is
And the new arena too
I think they'll be
A little better
Than we expect
And they might get
An eighth seed
That's what I'm expecting
They have a full year
Of actually
Saying Cam Talbot
Is our starter
Hopefully he stays healthy
They'll have a full year
Of McDavid
Hopefully he stays healthy
They'll have a full year
Of Darnell Nurse
hopefully he stays healthy
they'll have a full year
of Leon Dreisaitl
which a lot of people
forget they didn't
quite have
they started him
in the AHL
for some reason
so
well
Oilers
there are things
that are
going to happen
to that team
I don't think
they can sit back
and by the way
what's going to happen
with Yakubov
and what
is the Russian
team Russia's
head coach's problem
did you see all that
no I missed that
I think
he for no good reason
talked about Yakubov
at the World Hockey Championship,
which Yakubov was not a part of.
And Oleg Znarok,
he's the Team Russia head coach,
talked about Yakubov
was addition by subtraction.
Sorry, not having him on the team
was addition by subtraction.
Wow.
Just a really unprofessional dick thing to say.
It sounds like professionalism in Russia,
it's just a different thing.
I don't think we would see that as unprofessional.
know russians would just see that as honest well and what i would like to say to him in rebuttal
maybe in defense of yakupov the gap between russia and canada or the gap between russia and the states
or the gap but well okay not a great example because the states totally got whooped but they
were playing mostly college kids and ahlers you know the gap between russia and canada at
big tournaments
Russia and Finland
I don't think
it's personnel
they have
great forwards
they have incredible
some of the best
forwards in the world
they actually have
decent goalies
which they didn't
for a while
decent defense
I think
maybe not the best
pretty decent
the gap is you
Oleg
the gap is
you
I've watched
Russia get outcoached
millions of times
and make silly decisions
because they gotta
to have KHL players in there.
They've got to have a certain amount of spots.
Sorry, Kachoff, but was he the Olympic coach too?
I'm pretty sure he was the 2010
Olympic coach when they got fucking
whooped like 7-3 by Canada.
One of the most dominant performances
I've ever seen in an Olympic game.
The gap is you.
It's not Yakupov.
The gap is you. The gap
is Russia's coaching isn't as good.
Right. Right.
Just in case you didn't hear me the first
time russia's coaching isn't as good well it's not as good as finland it's not as good as sweden
it's not as good as the states it's not as good as canada sorry you're not there
wow stick it up for my boy like come on yak has his faults he has his shortcomings is that the
word yeah yeah i i just don't understand like it's just such a strange shot like i can't imagine
like who's canada's coach even at the world hockey championship was it babcock
no no he was there but no um it doesn't matter but like imagine any coach from hockey canada just
randomly dumping on some player who didn't show up who's who's also 22 years old steve would you
like to take a gander at those russian coaching names for the history of the russian olympic team
oh that's rough
it wasn't oleg narok it was igor wait what it's got vyacheslav bikov in there bike of and then
igor zach harkin in brackets are they are they the same person assistants oh i see yeah then
Zenichula
Bilet
Bilet Ladinov
with Valerie Belov
Dmitry Yuskevich
Igor Nikitin
I don't know
I could have swore
isn't Oleg Znorak
look up Oleg Znorak
look up who he is
anyway it doesn't matter
doesn't matter
the fact of the matter is
they didn't do well
it really
no and
because they are that good
they should be better
like okay
even if he wasn't the coach
during those Olympics
I don't care
like the gap is still
those people
I couldn't name
with the exception
of Dimitri Yuskevich
because I loved him
as a kid
me too
didn't we all
so he randomly
dumps on him
and the thing is
is that
it sounds like
in Edmonton
that trading Yak
is a foregone collusion
I don't see it
he played great
with
was it Pouliot
and Connor McDavid
that was
that was like
the best line in hockey
why would you
why would you split that up
I don't see it happening
I just don't
why would you mess with that
I guess the better question
is why didn't they
like put them back together
yeah
I feel like they didn't really
but I guess
is that really
your most ideal use
of
Connor McDavid
maybe not
maybe not
for the longest time
Oleg was the
national coach of Latvia
oh
and then
yeah
how did he
can you do that
yeah
I guess you can do that
but now he's the
Russian national hockey team
coach
wasn't Ted Nolan
the coach of Latvia
um
probably for a couple years
when Oleg was
point being
it was uncalled for
and ridiculous
I don't understand why it was said.
It was Narok that said that about Yak, right?
I'm not completely dumping on the wrong guy.
Let's check.
Type in Narok Yakupov.
In the meantime...
Props to you for properly smelling Narok.
Peter Chiarelli did say, and this might sound crazy to you,
we owe it to the fans to get better in a relatively short period of time,
and we are looking at all options to be able to do that.
um there's some pretty good players that are going to be available at number four and the
thought is that matthew matthew chuck is matthew yep uh it's keith chuck's son will be available
at number four he said but we may look for we may look to move down and still get a pick and an
asset as part of a larger deal he said that out loud so that means the oil the oilers have been
talking um which i don't think is the worst thing for them i think that doesn't that doesn't sound
crazy to me at all the thing is um how far do you have to move down to get something meaningful
define meaningful well let's say i mean first off you want to get a guy who's under control
contract wise because you wouldn't go get like a shattenkirk or something like that
well i guess you couldn't but um kevin miller what do you what do you go what do you go get
and that's the thing
I mean they do need
help on defense
well and this is the
thing if you draft
Matthew Kachuk
does he make the
team out of camp
maybe maybe not
but if you are
drafting Matthew
Kachuk which I'm not
even saying is the
wrong decision
I think you got to
trade Yak for a
defender like you
can't trade him for
another forward
the thing is is that
that fourth that
fourth that vacant
fourth pick is worth
more than Yak is
right now
well yeah
but what I'm saying is
it doesn't address their needs at all
true
what I mean is that it's more important to other teams
because teams like the ability to choose
once the pick is made it's almost
unless it's like top
unless it's like Austin Matthews it almost seems like
they're valued less because another
team has made the choice
but it's almost like before that
because all the possibilities are
floating around in the ether they'll pay more
for it than they will for the prospect afterwards
Does that make sense?
No, it does.
It does.
I'm just thinking, like, what if the Oilers could find a way to go from fourth to eighth,
acquire a second in the process, and draft Jacob Chikrin?
There's a defender.
There's your defender right there.
You get an extra pick.
Doesn't sound terrible.
And Chiarelli seems to think that this draft is deep.
He's like, we got the 32nd pick, which I guess is right behind the Leafs.
It sure is.
And he said, we expected—
The Leafs' honorary third first-round pick.
Right.
he said we expect
to get a good player
there too.
So,
we'll see.
That's that magical spot.
I love that.
That little spot
between
31st
and 35th.
It's really,
it's the first round.
It's the extended
first round.
Ryan O'Reilly
was drafted there.
Thomas Yercho
was drafted there.
A lot of quality
plays.
Does Edmondson
have that pick?
32nd?
Yeah,
because,
yeah.
Do they have that pick?
Because they finished second last, right?
So they, I believe what I read,
because the draft lottery is only the top of the pile, right?
Yeah, so they got to give away either this year's
or next year's pick for the Shirelli to Boston.
But that's a third.
No, it's the second.
It's the second?
I'm looking at it right now.
They're either giving up this year's or next year's.
So they'll probably hold off and give next year's,
but they do have three third round picks this year.
So you might want to give it up.
I want to know which one of those picks,
which one of the
there were like
less than 10
given out
as compensation
which one of those
picks is going to
turn into a superstar
you know it's going to
be one
it is
the Leafs are giving
up two picks
yep
how scared are you
well they got a lot
of other picks
they got a lot of
other choices
if they weren't
drafting much
I'd be like
oh
but they have
their own opportunities
to make good on the
picks that they have
and Jesse looked it up
by the way
it was Narok
said that about Yak
regardless of his own
personal performance
with Russia
what has killed
that team
hasn't just been
personnel
it's been all the
infighting
and politics
involved
with the hockey program
was my point
leave Yak alone
fair
with the Oilers
you could argue
the same thing
no
couldn't you
there has been
politicking
and you know what
this group isn't
I mean there are
some significant changes
one of them being
Connor McDavid
but it isn't
that much different
than Kevin Lowe
and Craig McTavish's team
it's not
you know
Yes, you've got Cam Talbot, but I don't see what pushes the—unless they are being bold
and they are going to make a move that's a splash and it changes the culture and that
sort of thing, I don't know what gets them higher than 20th place this year.
I'm trying to think of what they really did.
And this is going to be the dumbest thing I say this year, so just keep track of this,
okay?
Nobody will remember.
Yeah, no, they don't know.
No, no.
I think that I want to say Andre Sequeira.
They got.
That's a decent add to your back end.
For sure.
They traded for Patty Maroon.
Big rig Maroon.
Big rig Maroon.
And that was a decent acquisition for them.
Pouliot, I think, was before McTavish was fired.
Like, I'm just looking at their team.
It's just...
You're not seeing it?
Dude, they got...
Am I seeing this right?
They ended the season with 16 forwards.
Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent, Hopkins
haven't said a bad player yet.
Benoit Pouliot,
Laurie Korpikoski
is making $2.5 million.
Really?
Weird.
That's Kevin Miller money.
Neil Yakupov,
also making $2.5 million.
Patty Maroon,
$1.5 million.
There is a good contract.
Matt Hendricks,
$1.85 million,
34 years old.
Mark Letestu
got $1.8 million somehow.
Zach Kassian
just got an extension,
$1.5 million.
That's not bad.
Then you got Anton Lander, Connor McDavid at 925.
Leon Dreisaitl, Iropaka Rewainen, Luke Gazdik, who is gone.
Adam Cracknell.
I don't know.
It's just, it's not a deep team.
Right.
It's not.
Their defense is where it dies.
An agonizing death.
Andre Sequeira, then Nikita Nikitin, who is gone, gone, so far gone this summer.
Mark Fain
3.625
Adam Party
Darnell Nurse
Jordan
I'm not even going to bother
learning that name
I have no idea
Adam Klendenning
Brandon Davidson
They got some work to do
Marincin's going to look good
on that back end
They're going to reacquire Marincin
Why not
Right I mean
I don't know
I hope that fourth round pick
that they got does them well
because he's
I didn't get that
well no no no
I did get that
because I think
then they flipped
one of their other
fourths and they got
Eric Greiba
I don't know
anyway
so the thing
that I got from this
is yeah it's great
that you're saying
all those things
but there is
like the Leafs
it's a pretty clear
path of what needs
to happen for them
to be successful
pretty clear
a lot of things
need to go right
for the Leafs
because there's a lot
they're basing a lot
of it on prospects
right
a lot of that
needs to go right
and it's tough
prospects are a you know you're shooting a dartboard you don't know you don't know you're
you're giving yourself a great opportunity but you just don't know great what opportunity oh okay good
um i misheard with the oilers it's like there's it's like it's just complicated right because
there's no move that makes you feel good particularly except moving that first pick
this year, but then what do you get?
What do you get?
I'm trying to think of a real life
Like, I don't want an NHL 16 trade
We're going to offer it to
Phoenix and we're going to get Oliver Ackman-Larsen
No
I don't think they do that
I don't think they do that
You ever have a fart that goes away?
Yeah, why?
That's the Oilers
Wow!
Because it's uncomfortable for a bit
They're just like
Give me some relief
And they can't get it
Wow
And they've had a
Fart trap for six years
Damn
Or something like that
Damn dude
Wow
Dude
That's what I'm saying
Like I
And Oilers fans
And here's how chill they are
They're all right now going
I know
Yeah
That's the difference
Between
Them and those pesky Canucks fans
That's right
Oh sit on your hands
Sit on your hands
Don't you dare type
I wouldn't even call them
Don't you give in
Don't let me win
I wouldn't even call them cantankerous
I would just call them salty
They're just a salty group
Okanox fans
Yeah
Yeah yeah
Oh no
Oilers fans
Oilers fans and Leafs fans
Are best friends
We all get along
Best friends
We get it
We get it
Now the Bills
And their new media policy
Which I love
I have to say
I have to
I have to read this out to you
I avoided this
Because I thought
You would bring it up
Did you actually?
Yes
Amazing
Okay so here's
Here's what the
Here are two excerpts
From the new media policy
For the Buffalo Bills
Which I think are fantastic
So, this is when it comes down to practice.
We talk about practice.
Not the game.
Practice.
So, reports, bracket, which also include radio reports, tweets, podcasts, and blogs, close bracket,
pertaining to the strategic and tactical information are strictly prohibited.
If you want to be at practice, cannot release any of that information.
That includes referencing plays, run, or game strategy, including trick plays or unusual formations.
reporting on personnel groupings sub packages players who are practicing with individual units
as in first team second team goal line offense nickel defense blah blah blah special plays
who is rushing the passer not allowed to report on that not allowed to report on who dropped the
passes not allowed to report on who made an interception in practice qb completion percentage
in practice only bills personnel are permitted on the grass that's understandable members of
the media are encouraged to speak to players during the media availability sessions but are
not permitted to speak with players coaches or staff minute members during practice that doesn't
sound too crazy i don't know what going to practice is like steve i don't know do you talk
to me i mean football is maybe different than hockey because there's no oh it's way different
you show up to marley's practice they're like hey what's up man yeah well it's a little different
in the playoffs but regular season it was a whole lot of crickets now you you walk you walk in and
the players look at you
like, huh?
Really?
Oh, yeah.
It was weird.
A couple times.
You want to talk to me?
Yeah.
Are you here to see me?
Wow.
Imagine the reward
in their eyes
when you say,
yes, I am.
I am.
Wow.
This fancy man
is here to talk to you.
Colin Smith
and Tobias Lindbergh.
Here's reporting on injuries.
Here's reporting on injuries.
All information
regarding injuries
and injured players
will come from
the head coach, Rex Ryan,
or team spokesman.
He loves that.
Yeah, because Rex hates talking.
If he's anything like Mike Babcock.
Or team spokesman Scott Birchhold,
who, by the way, doesn't need to be there because they have Rex Ryan.
Media should direct any questions they may have
in regards to injuries to one of those two team representatives.
Injuries that occur during practices open to the public can be reported.
But only those.
Media should not report any injury situation occurring during practice
that is not open to the public with detailed speculation to the potential nature, severity of the injury, or level of practice participation.
As in, let's say you got a quarterback with a suspected injury.
If he is not throwing in practice and it is not open to the public, you are not allowed to report that.
Acknowledging an injury occurred is permitted.
but anything beyond that general report
would be purely speculative
and possibly inaccurate
still and televised photographers
are not permitted to shoot
or film injured players at a closed
practice even during the period
that is open to media
you're not allowed to be a reporter
basically and you also cannot film
injured players rehabbing either before
or after
what Jesse
reporter can you spell that qtmw number sign and here's the bet my reporter has fucking report in
it you numbskulls who the fuck wrote this how did this how did this get passed hey i have an idea
you're not allowed to report on our team fuck you you're the buffalo bills
you're lucky every time a fan shows up let alone a reporter the fuck
You are not allowed to report on our team
God damn
You're the Buffalo Bills
The New England Patriots can't even tell me this shit
And you're telling me this
Fuck you
This is the most asinine thing I've heard all day
I'm so glad we saved this for now
You are not
The guidelines for reporting are you may not report
Yeah
Like imagine if they had the same rules
For like the president
Or like anything
You are not allowed to ask politicians this
because it's called
it's free speech
and the thing is
it's not free speech
it's fucking reporting
freedom of the press
they'll kick you out
of closed practices
for the season
if you do it
what are you going to
put up a tree sign
in your little
are you going to put up
a sign in your tree house
for Buffalo Bills
no hobos
no reporters
the fuck
what is that
the best part about this
is the beat writers
for the Buffalo Bills
and how they've responded
okay so a guy named
Mike Rodak
who I haven't heard of
but he does beat for Buffalo
he says
he's at practice
a quarterback threw a pass and the football
landed in the hands of an offensive player
at today's Bills OTA
practice and then he follows that up
a Bills quarterback with a jersey number that is
the square root of 25 threw a football
that missed its intended target
the last pass of the day
by a quarterback not named Taylor or
Jones was intercepted by a player
wearing a jersey number with the absolute value
of negative 50
that's what they want
it gets even better I got it named Tyler
Dune. With a Watkins-Salas
Goodwin, with Watkins-Salas
Goodwin out, it looks like Jared Boykin
and Greg Little are getting
more work at wide receiver for the Bills.
Carlos Williams isn't here
probably because of the birth of his child
back home last week.
A wide receiver
just dropped a pass at practice.
Don't worry, we won't say who.
I'm glad. Good for them.
For making absolute dicks of
the Bills. I almost called
and the Sabres.
Like,
I don't understand.
I don't understand.
My question is,
are they not?
Did he actually?
That's amazing!
He scored on a five on three.
What's wrong with that?
They count.
It still counts.
It's still a goal.
The call was that good.
Oh, do you think
all of Steph Curry's
threes should be twos?
But like,
Hey, it's a goal.
They got a goal taken back
and then they got a bad penalty
and now it's 1-0 Pittsburgh.
Listen,
I still want Tampa to win.
My heart says Tampa.
Listen, no, no, no.
We're letting the Bills
off the hook for stupidity here.
Well, that was my question.
My next question to that was, okay.
No, no.
Interrupting for a Kessel goal is always accepted.
That's fair.
That is always okay.
They're owned by Pagoola Sports and Entertainment, are they not?
Yes, and you know what?
Holy shit, that little area around, oh my god.
Orchard Park?
What's the name of the Sabres Arena?
Orchard Park is where the Bisons play, right?
Is where the Bills play.
Oh, okay.
Well, anyway, there's that little area of downtown that doesn't look like Buffalo.
Which, by the way, is a good thing.
Buffalo
People from Buffalo
Know
They know
Wow
Everybody in
Chintuaga
Just got really mad
At you Steven
By the way
The last time I brought up
The condition of Buffalo
I had someone from Buffalo
Basically go
Fuck you
You've been here like
Once or twice
In the last two years
You have no idea
And then someone else
Like jumps in
And they're like
Dude come on
He's right
You should have been
Excuse me sir
I have been clubbing there
Many times
Oh absolutely
With my bodyguard
Jeff. That's right. Bodyguard.
That's my bodyguard.
I just...
Now, here's
a question.
The thing was, Pagoola Sports and Entertainment
owns also what?
Sabres.
Is this not a Pagoola Sports and Entertainment policy?
What will happen with the Sabres?
Well, now, here's a question, though.
Here's a question. So, let's say
a reporter breaks those rules.
Which, by the way, he's not employed
by the Bills, so they can fuck themselves with those
rules but let's say the reporter breaks those rules then what well then they revoke your media
access and then i go to the nfl and say what the fuck is this shit like can't doesn't the nfl have
a duty to promote the game well not just promote the game you can't just revoke someone's credentials
because they reported because a reporter reported reported on practice sure wouldn't be classic
it would not be classy
I don't
why have reporters there at all
now why not just make the news release
only say nice things about my team please
only be kind
which by the way is the spokesperson's job
that's the spokesperson's job
that's not the reporter's job
everybody is gonna have the same news
the exact same news word for word
because they're all getting it from Rex Ryan and that other dick
right who doesn't really need to be there
who my friend might know and might be a nice guy
Now, the other thing about this, this all could be resolved.
Because, Steve, I think you hit on a really good point there that I hadn't actually thought about.
Okay.
What is it that the, you just said it, what is it that the Bills want the reporters to do?
Talk about how nice and fancy their team is.
Right.
How do you get reporters to do that?
Be good.
Exactly.
Win.
If they could fix the suck, maybe they wouldn't have to have that policy in the first place.
But they can't do that, Adam.
They're in Buffalo.
It's not in their nature
Jim Kelly needs to come out of retirement
Consider this
So they can lose more Super Bowls
Consider this, okay
No good team worth a shit
Comes up with a policy like that
I'll leave it at that
And with that
We talk about Skate to Great
A great organization that takes your used pads
And equipment and gives it to people in need
Text Daniel to 41010 for a $5, $10, or $20 donation
You're not allowed to talk about the people.
Takes your equipment and gives it to...
Just say it takes equipment.
It doesn't matter that it used to be mine.
It takes equipment.
Takes equipment, ingests equipment,
procures equipment, aggregates equipment
to specific parties who may in fact need the equipment.
See, that's an assumption of need.
Okay, specific parties who have agreed to accept the equipment?
See, now you're talking about the agreement between the parties,
the agreement to accept that's a little too, there's too much legalism there, we can't have that.
Okay, so is it the message needs to be clearer, or?
No, no, you just need to do your job.
Who, okay, who make available equipment to other parties?
Skate to Great.
It's again
I just
The human element
I need you to take that right out
I need you to take that right out
So what is Skate to Great
You can't talk about any people
Go
They're fucking awesome
Is what they are
Okay
Skate to Great dot org
Donate
One of the hundred donations
That is across the country
The Buffalo Bills
They're fucking awesome
Did I get it?
Did I get it?
One reporter
Just on his last year
On the beat
He's got one more year
before he retires,
should just go to practice
and his article from practice
and his tweet from practice
should always just be,
this is great.
This is great.
There should be a Buffalo
this is great guy.
This is great reporter
and just throughout the season
as they go 5-11 again
or whatever it was
their record was last year.
Adam, they did not go 5-11.
They had five wins
I didn't say five and eleven what?
Five Big Macs
And eleven Cokes
Right?
See now you're
Here's the problem though
You're talking about a very
Brand specific item
And we can't
We can't have that
Five hamburgers
And a cola
Five good times
Five good times
Let's go with aggregations
Of bread and meat
Yeah
We can't really use that word sandwich
Yeah you're right
We get sued by Germany
Every time we use it
so it's just
can't do it
do you guys want to check in
with the Fresno Grizzlies
oh
you got a promotion for us
oh
love it
and also after this
let me just say
I believe we have a
what's up in Liberty Village
we might have this
Jesse just spit in all the fire today
we might have to go to our favorite neighborhood
yeah
alright
sorry let's find out
what's going on at Fresno
so
their mascot
I want to find the name of the mascot
real quick
so
Parker T. Bear
Parker T-Bear
is there
is there
one WHL team
does he play for
hold on
Parker T-Bear
is there like
is there like a name
that I'm missing in there
Parker T-Bear
like if you
does it mean something
or is there like a character
it's supposed to reference
or no just Parker T-Bear
I assume the T is for Teddy
well but
Parker the Teddy Bear
yeah
Park
like baseball park
yeah
so Parker
oh maybe T-Ball too
alright okay
okay
so
So, they got him, he went to a class, I guess, a school, he got a...
This is the bear?
The bear, the mascot.
Parker T. Bear.
Parker T. Bear got this, I don't know what to call it, but he got this so that on Thursday,
when people come to the ballpark, they can consummate their love.
Did he get anointed like he can marry you?
Parker T. Bear got ordained.
Ordained!
Anointed.
I'm not religious
can you tell
they ordained their mascot
by the way
that was totally
that was not the right way
to use consummate
yeah
I'm like oh people
are just going to
just do it on the couch
consummate their love
they can get married
well that
that later
Jesse hasn't been
to 15 weddings
in the last three years
but you know
you'll know
they can consummate
their love on Thursday
wow
do you know
what they're calling
this event
oh so
so that's not even
the thing
it's the name
of the event
they went even further
by the way
does Parker T. Bear
have like a Mr. T. haircut
I will show you a picture
of Parker T. Bear
okay
I want him to have
gold chains and an earring
I think
I think you guys
are going to love
the photo of Parker T. Bear
I think that's
the big reveal
I pity the fool
who gets married here
I don't know
so what is it
we're looking for a phrase
yeah
what they're calling
something night
it's got to be
something night
like I'm
I'm trying to think
of wedding words
that are bare.
Oh, I was thinking baseball.
Oh.
Like, altar.
Bride.
Take me out to the lifetime.
Groom.
No.
Sanctity.
They're also going to have $2 tall cans.
Which is important when one gets married.
Oh, it's a cash bar?
It's a cash bar.
This is the worst wedding ever.
Yes, it's cash bar to our American friends,
a toonie bar to Canadians?
Oh, Adam.
No, no, Adam.
That was fine.
I've never been to a toonie bar.
What the hell are you talking about?
For a wedding?
Never seen a toonie bar for a wedding?
You made that up?
No, that's a real thing.
No, I have friends
that like their friends.
You're kidding me?
There's nothing wrong with a toonie bar.
That's absolutely wrong.
Okay.
Said the guy
who had the most perfect wedding ever.
Now I can sit on my hill
and judge everyone else.
I mean, I'm glad you just said it.
I'm just glad you said it.
He did have a great wedding.
Parker T. Bear
Priest
Minister
Baseball
Hold on
Hold on
Bat
Pitcher
Mound
Dugout
Bullpen
Bride pen
I don't know dude
Get past third base
With Parker T. Bear now
I'm going with that
So
They went with the simple
My Big Fat Fresno Wedding
Oh what the fuck
On Thursday night
And would you like to see how
I hate how they referenced
Parker T-Bear's weight
By the way
That's not fair
I'm assuming Parker T-Bear's fat
The officially ordained minister
He's a bear
Parker T-Bear
Will be dressed like this
Just coming out of
Hybrid
His face is
Off center
Do you guys notice
That his face
Fuck off center
It's green
It's also
He's also a green and yellow bear
So he's a radioactive bear
From the Ukraine
He's also
from Chernobyl.
The Chernobyl bear.
Chernobyl the bear.
Chernobyl bear.
They also dressed up
their mascot
as a priest.
Oh,
did you notice
very subtly
on his,
whatever you call
the scarf
the priest wear?
Are you Catholic?
Dude,
didn't you go to marriage
But love,
you know the scarf
Okay,
all right,
well,
sorry.
We watched a movie
and we knew all about
marriage after that.
There are bear paws
on his
scarf garment
thing
I just
want to see
how many people
get offended
oh
I'm sure
there will be people
who are offended
and to them
I would say
calm down
what do you think
the message board
in Fresno
is like
I bet it's
a fever pitch
there's one more
layer to this
we should all
Mike.com
the hate article
oh
now are we
if we're Mike.com
are we offended
by the people who are offended by it, or are we offended
by the event itself? No, you're just offended
by it. Because you can be both. You can be offended
by the tweets that are reaction tweets.
Because that is also apparently a story now, too.
And people are reacting.
They are the Fresno Grizzlies.
Grizzlies
seen in Fresno
as minor league baseball
team offers up
Micro-brews and micro-aggressions.
Wow.
See, now, I think that's too newspaper.
That's too good.
Because there was a headline and a byline?
That's too good.
Well, that's too good.
Here's what I would say.
Micro-brews.
This local baseball team had a terrible in-game promotion.
And when you...
Or no.
Local baseball team...
Give me a moment.
When I saw what this local baseball team
Had for a promotion
My jaw dropped
Bingo right there
That's how it goes
What do they call it
Non-secular
I'm trying to think of something to do with
I can't do it
I can't do it I tap
You tap wow
I think I had a good one
I think I had a good one
It wasn't easy
I'll retire champ
Alright
It's always
And my jaw dropped
I'm seeing that a lot lately
Distractify is like
King of doing that
By the way
Stop clicking on
Distractify articles okay
Another clickbaity site
Stop it
Stop
Stop
All those
All those stories
You see on Distractify
You know where they were
Five fucking days ago
On a real news site
Okay
Thank you
Thank you
And two weeks later
It'll be on Ellen
Yeah
True
True
Vera also has a bone to pick.
Who does?
Vera.
With us?
With Liberty Village balcony cleaners.
Oh, no.
Okay, hold on.
So, we're checking in.
So, did Vera go with balconies?
That's first what we need to know.
She did not specify which company she booked with,
but it was the one that Elena promoted on the Facebook page.
Nice going, Elena.
Did she tag Elena?
She did not tag Liam.
Oh, that would be so...
That would be so passive aggressive and awesome.
Okay, all right, all right.
It would be the perfect message board post.
We would have to delete all message boards after that.
Yeah.
She said, the cleaner texted me at 9.30
saying that they're running 10 to 15 minutes late.
I called them at 10.25
saying they can't,
and they said they can't find a parking spot
anywhere nearby.
I called them again, no answer.
It's now 10.50
and I haven't heard back from them.
I am frustrated
what a waste of my time
can anyone recommend
any reliable balcony cleaners
you
it's a balcony
Jesse for people not from here
you live in Liberty Village
I do
you are a livevigian
yes
you're not this type of livevigian
but you are
I can clean my own balcony
so okay
give people an approximate size
of the average balcony in Liberty Village
barring, like 99%
of them are about the same size.
I think I have a little larger one because it
kind of extends around, but I'm
6'4".
So my arms are about 6'4".
Because that's how your reach works.
And I can probably touch most
balconies from end to end.
End to end.
Not out from the building, end to end.
End to end of the entire balcony.
That's the size of the average
Liberty Village balcony.
You know what you could've done
in that hour?
Clean your fucking balcony!
For free!
What the fuck were you doing?
What were you doing?
Where were you?
What were you?
Where were you?
Where were you?
Now, what are people saying
in the comments?
Are people saying anything?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, are they responding?
Yeah, um...
Oh, balconies.
Jackie says...
Fighting back.
I used them last week
and they were great.
Same company?
Apparently.
She said they were great.
Jackie, for sure,
is dating someone who works for that company
and is posing as a customer.
Jackie's also causing shit.
Natalia.
Jackie's coming in there like,
well, I used them and they were great.
Jackie is a shit of a disturber.
Jackie, or as we shall refer to her,
Skip Bayless.
Oh, yeah!
I think that balcony cleaner is shit and frustrating.
Oh, yeah!
Well, I used them last week.
And look at this balcony
Fucking clean
And spick and span
Imagine she
Stephen A. Smith
You do not
Want to test me
Kevin Durant
You do not
Want to test me
You do not
Want a part of this
Balconies
You don't want
None of this
Alright
Alright
You do not
Want to make an enemy
Out of me
Balconies
Natalia
Wants to set the record
Straight and slow
Holy smokes
She says
Complaining on this forum
Is definitely the best way
To get a hold of them
Oh
Shots fired
Natalia
Jackie and Natalia
Just literally
It's like
Literally they came out
It's like the Hardy Boys
From what is it
No it was the Hardy Boys
From
WWE
Who are the brothers
The Dudley
The Dudley Brothers
The Hardy Boys
That's a
That's a children's novel
Did they
Who was the original person
Vera
They put Vera through a table
Yes
Out of nowhere
In 3D
Vera was talking, and then they came up behind her, snuck in, and wham!
Who is it, Elena and Natalia?
3D!
Boom!
Right through that table.
I think Vera might have the last laugh.
Oh!
She replied to her own...
She spit on that hot...
Alright, alright.
She replied.
She said, it took them about 30 minutes to clean my balcony, since I didn't have any furniture.
They did a great job.
So I guess they came eventually, and they cleaned it.
Took only 30 minutes, because she has no furniture.
which again brings us back
to the first point
which Jesse and Steve
so eloquently put together
Jesse again
once again
who
who would be
your question was
who would be a great
great alternative
right
it really wasn't yours
it was hers
but if there's an hour
in between your balcony
cleaning not coming
who could clean your balcony
to which Steve said
you
I heard an echo
in a soundproof room
I didn't know
I was that loud
you got a strong voice
my friend
oh
I scare people
at the dog park, by the way.
Really?
My voice just carries.
By the way, one day
we are going to talk
about the dog park page.
Because I believe
Jesse's a member of that, too.
Well, holy shit, Adam.
You don't know
the kerfuffle
that has been caused.
Oh, was there a kerfuffle?
Oh, my goodness.
Did you know that
the bylaw officers
were there today?
Oh, today?
Oh, today.
I saw them.
And if I didn't see them,
thank goodness
the Facebook page
reported it.
It's my favorite.
And then it's,
you know, why, Stephen?
It's because people
have had their damp dogs
off their leash. In the non-off-leash
areas. You know what though? It should
be an all-off-leash dog
park. Because my dogs train
and all your dogs are a problem.
So what if your damn
kid gets run over by a linebacker
180 pound pit bull that you
refuse to get neutered? So what?
Not my
fucking problem that little
Jake and...
Little Jake and Smallwood.
Little Jake and Smallwood got run over.
Sorry, this is in Ontario. It's not in
Alberta
It's always Alberta
Yeah
Speaking of which
I made Jesse laugh very hard
Did you?
Which is not an easy task
He's a connoisseur of good jokes
Well don't worry
We'll get back to Liberty Village
Okay
When did you make me laugh?
On Facebook a couple days ago
Did he chortle?
Did he chortle on Facebook?
He said he can't stop laughing
So I'm gonna assume he typed
Just expressionless
Okay
I don't remember this
It's so funny when you find something funny on Facebook
And you don't even react
in real life
but you're like
that is hilarious
oh my god
that is so funny
yeah
fireworks going off
in your brain
you don't even react
so
which player
did I
bring
to your attention
last show
you bring to our attention
yes
Jake and Smallwood
Jake and
Smallwood
oh
because it's basically
Jack and
Smallwood
now
I brought that up
as the
piece de resistance
because you can't
you can't possibly
top that but internets so but internets so someone was tweeting about different like european
transactions hockey players going to and fro i don't actually know where this player went
but i saw him come across my timeline and i knew it was an instant classic
and i sent it to jesse with just the caption fucking alberta man
Okay
Listen, I know it's WHL name
So we make it seem like it's all
A western Canadian thing
It's mostly Alberta
There was a player
Played for the Saskatoon Blades
Vancouver Giants
Born in Lethbridge, Alberta
Fifth round pick in 2005
Of the Boston Bruins
By the way, there's two Lethbridges
It's on the border
There's a Lethbridge-Saskatchewan, I believe, too
Goddammit, Canada
There aren't that many places here
No, no, no, it's one city
line goes through it
oh what
yeah
I'm going to check that
one city exists in two different provinces
I think you made that up
well and Adam
you are not going to want to miss
this player's name though
his first name
is
Wacey
what
W-A-C-E-Y
Wacey
now Wacey
Smith
well that's nice
at least he got one
Wasey Wild
That would kinda be cool
That'd be cool
Wasey Blake
That works
Maybe even Wasey Dangle
Meh
Meh
I don't know
What this guy's parents
Were thinking
Because his last name
Is Rabbit
Shut the hell up
Wasey
Rabbit
I forgot about that
I was way wrong
about Lethbridge by the way
there's another city
I need to get that
before the Alberta fans
go nuts
that's just as funny
it's Lethbridge
there's a line that goes
what's
sorry Wyoming
it's Wyoming
it's been a while
there's another city there
Wasey
Wasey Rabbit
Wabbit
which is how
I'm sure everyone
comes across
pronounced
it's not
it's not a name
that is meant
to set the child up
for success
it's a conversation piece
at a dinner table
it's what it is
what it is fools
sorry to everybody
from Lethbridge
by the way
Adam
I just wanted to
get that out there
I'm like I know
I'm wrong
as soon as I said
I'm like
fuck I know
I'm wrong
what at
Liberty Village
Megan and
Livvidge
alright
Megan has a
random question
but does anybody
know how to
tell if feta cheese
is made from
sheep or
sheep slash goat
or cow's milk
yeah fucking
you get
you get vinegar
you get some
plutonium
you put in a
petri dish
and if it
If it pops up in the air, you know, it's that it's lamb's milk or what the fuck are you talking about?
She wants to know if the feta cheese she bought at our local Metro in Libvidge, the one, the one Metro we have is from sheep or goat or cow.
So here's what I would do.
She doesn't know.
I would Google the product name.
That's what I would do.
That's not like if I had a question like that, which is, I guess, a valid question.
let's say you got somebody coming over with an allergy
or who's lactose intolerant or both
or whatever, fine.
That's not the place I'm going.
That's not where your fountain of knowledge
is. But somebody must have an experiment
to know how to do it.
Yeah, fucking Dexter is gonna
put this shit in a lab.
Oh my god, I got an idea.
Ask someone at the store
where you bought it!
Where it was packaged and sold to you, madam!
What are you doing?
It's cheese
They're not gonna tell you
I don't fucking know
They gotta tell you
They're selling the shit
Although
Who are all these people?
To be fair
I'd be like
I don't fucking know
But
If you worked at Metro
You'd probably know
Would you?
There's a lot I didn't know
Working at Shoppers Drug Mart
And I was there a while
Yeah
Dude
When I worked at the zoo
There was all kinds of shit
I didn't know
And what I said was
I don't know
Let me see if I can find
Someone who does
See
They're not gonna say
Does it not say on the package?
Yeah
Like what is it saying?
I assume not
I assume the package
Would have been the first place
Don't assume
Do not assume
Do not assume my friend
You know
You know
We
Dealing with
People
You know
Unless the brand you're buying
Is called good fucking luck
They will probably list
Now Jesse
Is that
Just so I know
Did she post a picture
Of the
No, no, that was it.
So she didn't even tell us what brand of feta cheese it was.
Now I'm going to assume feta cheese comes from a cow.
Just going to assume.
No, it's a way cheese is made.
Yeah.
It's a crumbly deliciousness you put on it.
Although I'm sure you can get goat's feta.
I'm not saying that you could.
Well, okay.
She's got her friends.
How the hell do I know?
I don't work at Metro.
Wow, dude.
She needs the goat.
Do we have another?
We have a final.
Before you get to that, the city I'm thinking of in Alberta,
and excuse me, it's Lloyd Minister.
Lloyd Minster
Shoutouts to Lloyd Minster
Lloyd Minster
I know how it's spelled
But they don't care
Lloyd Minster
Lloyd
Lloyd
They just call it Lloyd too
Why don't I know that?
I'm such an idiot
Am I the only one
Who gets pissed off
That there's a fort
Saskatchewan, Alberta?
No
I think
Well no
I think you are
There's no fort
Quebec, Ontario
True
I think people got over it
There might be
I think people got over it
Yeah
By the way
Sorry
I know
Because people are just
Dying to know
They're dying to know
Wasey Rabbit
Signed with
Oh sorry
HC Novezamki
Nice
That's Slovakia's
Tier 2 league
So now you know where
Boston Bruins
Fifth rounder
Wasey Rabbit went
When he gets drunk
Is he a waste case?
I'm sorry
Was his hockey nickname
Thumper?
It had to be
Had to be
Did he
Waste of the finish?
Went into waste of the puck
You watch your waistline.
Parents, man.
Christine has a simple question.
Oh, God.
I can't wait to hear how complicated this is.
Her post is one sentence.
All she wants to know,
does anyone know of a good cat sitter in the area
who would be willing to do home visits?
Oh, I think we know.
I think we fucking know.
What's her face with...
With muggies
Hey I know someone who sits at home and does nothing all day
What was her name
Erin or something
Was it Vera with the two cats
One of them squeaks and one of them's got a mustache
I don't remember that
No no I was talking about Vera who sat at home
Scowling about the balconies people
For two hours
She could have spent that time watching cats
Yeah that person who asked for the cat
Photos of anybody
In LiveVidget that guy could definitely know
I'd like to put together a LiveVidget cat compilation.
Which, by the way, that guy did not get enough hate from us.
We made fun of that girl, who's a sweet person and loves her freaking animals,
who's doing a Liberty Village cat comp.
Right?
Because there's going to be a wide market for that.
You might get two, maybe three views.
Total.
Like, what the hell?
And, by the way, Vera.
Vera, let's talk to you.
Oh, yeah.
I'm going back to Vera for a second.
Listen here, asshole.
Vera.
Vera, they couldn't find a parking spot.
Okay, Vera?
Couldn't find a damn parking spot.
So what's Vera do?
She complains on the page.
And then two other people go,
I've had a great experience with that, Vera.
And then she backs that up with,
so did I later on.
Why not just take the post down,
ripping the company and giving them a bad name?
and go
oops
you know what
I was wrong
here's the situation
or just delete it
poof
it wasn't even there
how many people
are on this planet
7 billion
7 billion
something like that
how many people
out of those 7 billion
are having a bad day
in front of a screen
of some sort
millions
of them
and some of them
might be
watching your shit
or whatever
yeah like all the people
from Alberta
that are tweeting me about Lloyd right now.
Right now.
It's happening right now.
Oh my God, we just need an Albertan Canucks fan.
Oh!
That's what we need.
Then what will they do?
Then what will they do?
I don't know if they exist.
Oh, they exist.
See, now they got to respond.
And say that they exist.
They have to respond politely, though.
You have to respond.
Simply say, I am a Canucks fan from Alberta,
and that is the last thing you send us forever.
You're done.
Otherwise, you fit your brand.
let's just put it that way
I don't even remember
what we were talking about
Vera
and we were talking about
like if
why are you giving the company
a bad name
if you then had a
good experience with them
like take it down
there's just people
just having a bad day
and they're doing it
in front of a screen
you ever just stare at the screen
while you're in a bad mood
and you're like
I need to say something
I need to get this
bad mood out somehow
you know what
I'm embarrassed to say
that I have
I'm embarrassed to say
that there have been comments
that are so ignorant
so ignorant
on certain things that I've seen.
Yeah, Steve, I found your Josh Donaldson video
not that good.
Like those, right?
Yeah.
And I go, why are you always
talking about the maple laughs anyway?
No.
But I find comments so offensive sometimes
that I'm like, actually,
I want to oh yeah them.
I want to oh yeah!
And then, fact, fact, fact, fact, fact.
Or, and this is what I remind myself
when I see it.
Or, I cannot engage with idiots
and go make a sandwich.
Sandwiches always win.
Or log off the page and go,
wait, wait, just relax, relax.
The only time I'll actually respond to idiots,
and we do get them,
and I would say this openly on the air,
and we've talked about it on the air,
is on the Kiss page.
If you're being openly racist
and openly like an idiot,
I will leave your comment up there
and embarrass you,
and then what'll happen is
that it'll get promoted to the top,
and all my comment gets all the likes,
and you look like an idiot
and where you work
looks like an idiot.
Because that's just
a different version
of retweeting
something you hate.
That's true.
Look at this idiot!
Mm-hmm.
Which, oh,
it feels good, man,
sometimes.
I was passive-aggressive
about it on Twitter,
but that Crosby article
I was talking about,
calling out his leadership,
oh, could you not
click the retweet button
fast enough
or quote tweet
because you have to get in
your insightful thought
on how obviously stupid that is.
Stop promoting shit
you don't like!
Stop it!
Oh but I screen capped it
So they don't click
They don't get a click
They're googling it
You're still infecting me
With that stupid disease
Their disease of idiocy
It's like the guy
From Montreal
Who said
The NHL may have
Rigged the draft
Lottery this year
That's all I'm gonna
Leave you with
That's a guy
There's a guy
How does that guy
Still have a job
Well because every
Couple months
He has an article
That gets 150,000 hits
Because you
Go check this shit out
And you know what
And you know what
His boss says
good job
yeah
they don't give a shit
what he says
no
clicks
ad revenue
money
because you know
who's sensitive
a lot of Maple Leaf fans
huh
yeah
a little bit sensitive
you can't call my team
the last
fuck you
imagine someone
whose first team
is the Canucks
and second team
is the Leafs
and they're from Alberta
what an interesting life
oof
conflicted
what had to happen
for that to happen
I wonder if that's a thing
the Leafs
the Canucks
but they can't tweet us
they can't
well they can
they can say that they are
although if you say
you're a Canucks fan
from Alberta
you are putting your life
in danger
I think all they can do
is tweet us
I'm that
period
if it exists
I'd be shocked
I'd be blown away
blown away if that exists
we just talked about
a lot of things
yeah we did
alright let's hit up
the press conference
shall we
the Presser
S
D
P
the Steve Dangle
press conference
I like when Jesse
sits there quiet
sometimes
and just looks at us
because I'm like
I don't know if he thinks
we're smart or stupid right now.
It's because Jesse would like
to go to bed
before the date changes
and whenever we go on
like this.
We need our theme song.
That's what's up
in live bitch.
Oh!
Did we forget that?
Alright.
There we go.
Sorry.
Someone please isolate that
and tweet it at us.
Put a dubstep remix too.
Does anybody good DJ?
That would be sick.
If we could get the guys that did the Damn Daniel remix to do it.
They wouldn't, because they probably wouldn't get paid, but amazing.
Let's do it.
I know you have time to kill.
You're listening to us.
Do it.
Jesse, go.
Hey, Steve.
Are you going to the NHL draft?
Yes.
There you go.
I'm going.
Well, I haven't got my credentials figured out yet.
If I don't get them, screw it.
I'm buying a ticket.
I mean, you didn't have your credentials figured out for the Marlies game either, right?
No, how many emails will they have to send in order to get me into the draft?
No calls made.
Oh, my goodness.
And imagine cross-border calls.
I will be at day one, and then it's going to pain me, but I've got to leave.
Like that night, because my buddy's wedding is the next day.
I'm lucky that I'm even going to day one.
But if you are going, just enjoy it.
Did I describe it last episode?
It's the last day of school.
I think Down Goes Brown was the guy who originated that.
It's so fun.
It's so fun.
and everyone's just there to have a good time.
I'm going to try to go next year.
Enjoy it.
I want to go next year.
And there's fans from...
It's really neat being at an event.
Everyone should experience this once,
whether it's the All-Star game or the draft.
The draft more so than the All-Star game,
but you've got to go to an event
where every NHL team is represented.
Fans of every NHL team will be there,
and it's a neat little experience.
No joke to be made.
It's just fun.
What's up?
Just curious.
Uh-oh.
this is where
this is where
hold on
anybody that says
Just Curious
it's about to be
a freaking
like here's the thing
it'll be a question
but it'll also be
a smack in the face
Just Curious
is just behind
I love the show
but
what do you truly think
of Joe Pavelski
oh I think he tweeted me
about this
you were a little
indifferent towards him
I didn't
when he was included
as part of the fan cover vote
yeah so I didn't say
he was bad
I just didn't see him
to me
NHL cover vote
Is a marketable superstar
And there's nothing
Against Joe Pavelski
I would say he is one
Yeah
He's an American
Yeah
Which matters
Absolutely matters
He's a huge part
Of Team USA
Every time they
Play internationally
He almost got
The golden goal
Yeah
He really did
Everyone forgets that
Joe Pavelski
Is a great hockey player
I did not say he wasn't
And I definitely
Got some stats
Tweeted my direction
To the effects
And I read them all
And I saw them
And you're right
He's great
I guess I just felt like
and I don't remember the conversation specifically
to be honest with you
but I remember we were talking about it
and I think that there are bigger stars
he's not as big of a name as
he's not a top
is he a top 20 name in the league
like in terms of just being recognizable
yeah it's not
not in his play
and maybe that's the Sharks fault
maybe the Sharks need to do a better job of marketing this guy
Maybe Team USA needs to do a better job of marketing this guy.
Man, they put all their eggs in a different basket, that's for sure.
Just saying.
I don't know why it was that one.
If the Lightning win the Stanley Cup this year,
does it increase or decrease the chance that Stammer becomes a Toronto Maple Leaf?
Well, increase, I would say, because it completely decreases the possibility
or I would say the likelihood of him staying with the Lightning.
Holy shit, we won a cup without him.
Yeah, I don't see...
Bah!
I mean, yeah, they're going to get nothing for him, and that sucks.
But if I am Steve Iserman, I'm looking at a team that is one win away,
and right now they're down 2-0 as of the recording of this podcast.
But they're one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals.
No matter how you look at your season,
even though they made it to the Finals last year,
that's a success.
That's still a success.
You have still taken a step forward
because you got there without Stephen Stamkos.
and you want to take that money
and shovel it Victor Hedman's way next year.
And I think that's the key
is that now they have a team
that's going to be good with him
and a team that could be good without him
or will be good with,
is good without him.
Huh.
Something just occurred to me.
Here's the greatness of Steve Heiserman.
Like just as a hockey person.
And yes, I just used that term.
I'm sorry.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but just off the top of my head,
the only teams to make it to the Stanley Cup Final in back-to-back seasons
over the last 20 years were the Penguins when they did it in 08 and in 09,
the Red Wings when they did it in 08 and 09,
and I don't remember what Eisenman's role with those teams were,
but I think he was in some level of management,
and when the Red Wings went in 97 and 98, back-to-back cups.
Or was it back-to-back
Yeah, it was back-to-back
Or was it 96-97
No, Colorado was 90
Either way, sometime in the
Mid to late 90s
You left out
No, it was 95-96 with the Avalanche
96-97
Was Detroit, 97-98
Was Detroit
You left out 2018-2019
Toronto Maple Leafs
Yes, that is true, but that's not within the last 20 years
That's within the next 20 years
When they make like
Five consecutive finals
Lose them all
But
I didn't say that
What?
What?
What?
But
What are the odds of that happening?
He was a player for one
I think he was management
With Detroit
For the
Late
2000
What do you even call that?
The late 2000
The late 2000
The first decade of the 2000s
The late zeros
The late what?
The late aughts
Yeah
Sure
Look it up
Okay
And now with the lightning
that's pretty incredible man
yep
and he's got
Jonathan Drouin
back on side
and apparently
here's a fun fact
according to Elliot Friedman
they
the agent
is it J.P. Berry
that is his agent
nope
it's not
um
not J.P. Berry
Alan Walsh
Alan Walsh
so apparently
after the second round ended
Alan Walsh
and Steve Eisenman
gave each other
like a hug
oh well it's just
it's a
it's a business
and if anyone gets that
That's Steve Heiserman.
I just think, damn, dude.
You might have Jonathan Drouin sticking around.
Who doesn't want out of town now.
That's pretty cool.
And I don't know.
Well, he'd be an idiot if he still wanted out of town.
I just think it would be...
I don't think it makes sense for Tampa Bay to re-sign Stamkos.
Other than the fact that it makes them freaking fantastic.
But that's just a lot of money in a guy.
They're already fantastic.
They're already fantastic.
And they're getting better.
That's the thing.
The thing is that the guys on their team are younger than Stamkos, who are really good.
That's an incredibly well-run organization.
Incredibly well-run.
Beautiful.
It's unreal.
It is.
It really is.
And they had a speed wobble.
They had a speed wobble.
But you're talking about taking out the
Sidney Crosby, Evgeny Malkin,
Phil Kessel, Chris Letang,
Marc-Andre Fleury,
Matt Murray,
Pittsburgh Penguins.
Tom Kuhn-Hockel.
I didn't make that up.
He's on the team.
He's German, I think.
The formerly Rob Scuderi, Pittsburgh Penguins.
Former Rob Scuderi.
Anyway, I just think that's pretty incredible.
And why would you shovel that money when you need Victor Hedman?
To me, you need Victor Hedman more than you need Stephen Stamkos.
Even big Stamkos fans got to at least think about that.
You really got to think about that.
Victor Hedman's one of the best defensemen in the game.
Stamkos is one of the best goal scorers.
And you could be like, oh, we could draft and trade and blah, blah, blah.
Yeah, that's another six years before you get another guy that's that good.
Sign him now.
Sign him now.
I'll bring this up.
Will you?
I'll bring this up.
People were talking about the potential of the Rangers dealing Rick Nash.
And they are, we've talked about it,
they are just coming in on that closing window.
It's not closed, but it's closing.
What are they going to get?
If they manage to deal Rick Nash,
could free up a lot of space for Stephen Stamkos.
Could
Why would he sign there?
It's New York
And also money
If they have the money
Go to where the money is
Don't be Cody Franzen about this
Go to the money
I guess
If he wants to win
Like you've said he does
New York's not the place to go
I think we also think
It's a foregone conclusion
He's going to sign seven years
What if he doesn't?
Why wouldn't he?
Maybe he thinks I got a nice two-year window to sign with the Rangers.
Why?
No, no, no.
I got a nice two-year window to sign with the Rangers,
and I'm Stephen freaking Stamkos.
In two years, I can sign a long deal.
So tell me again why it's crazy that the Leafs would sign Stamkos
and why it's crazy that he might want to come here,
but the Rangers are a viable option.
The Rangers made the playoffs this year.
The Rangers were like the third seed in the East, I think.
I get that.
But you know that the Henrik Lundqvist era is almost over.
Yeah, that's why you signed like two years.
All right.
I don't know.
Listen, I don't think Stamkos to the Leafs is preposterous.
Wait.
Preposterous?
Sorry, did that hurt your ears?
Through your head bones?
Kessel looks dejected on the bench.
And Penguins is still up 2-0.
I think that's just his look, man.
I think it is, too.
I think it is, too.
um anyway no but half a decade it's bad body language adam he's uncoachable he's uncoachable
and you know what's amazing you can give reporters the ability to report anything or you can take all
the ability away they'll still report the same shit sometimes yep pretty much now look at phil
