It is wonderful to be here. Welcome to the White House.
And we are here to celebrate an extraordinary achievement.
Phil Kessel is a Stanley Cup champion.
Hey!
Jesse, repeat what you just said
World Cup of Hockey jerseys are 50% off
Wow
Where did you find that?
I was down at Best Buy yesterday at the Eaton Center
Getting new SD cards
Ah, Bestie Byman
Walked by a Foot Locker
And there was a big sign that said
World Cup of Hockey jerseys 50% off
And they had a whole rack of them
All Sidney Crosby
See, you guys always make fun of me for the free stuff
This is why I don't pay for things ever
Because
I wanted a Team North America jersey
I wanted it bad
And I was like
You know what
I get a lot of jerseys for free
How about
I take that savings
And I buy a Team North America jersey
Is that what you did
I got one
You bought one
For 150 bucks
We could have saved half that
Piss me off
There's a couple North America ones there too
Can I be straight
I mean
At 75 dollars
They are still no longer worth it
Oh wow
How about
Get it under 50
I'll buy one
How about believe in Team North America?
No past, no future.
Best team in the tournament should have won.
Best jerseys, Adam.
Morgan Rielly was on that team.
Austin Matthews.
Name a Leaf on Team Canada.
You can't.
Adam, what was the last?
That's not my fault.
It is.
It's not my fault that the Leafs are good enough to make Team Canada.
I heard it was.
What was the last sports jersey you purchased?
What was the last sports jersey?
that is a really good question
I think that's a harder question for Steve to answer
you're just getting them for free all the time
oh you're asking me?
Adam gets a bunch of shit
for me I think I bought
it's funny I moved back from Calgary
the Leafs were in the playoffs
and the reason I bought this jersey
was because it was like
I hadn't owned a Leafs jersey
that wasn't severely outdated
in like 6 or 7 years
because what I hated about the Leafs jersey
in the late 2010s
is the fact that they switched the patch
to that crappy TML thing.
Yeah, I never liked that.
And then they also had that jersey for one year
that didn't have a stripe on the bottom.
It looked like it was like a...
The pajama jersey.
Yeah.
It looked like it was from Lululemon.
Yeah, the Luke Shen rookie year pajama jersey.
There's no way I'm buying these crappy jerseys.
Also, the team sucked, and I didn't know.
I'm like, why am I buying a jersey for the team?
You didn't get a Nicholas Hagman jersey out of them?
You know what?
I didn't.
I didn't.
Yurke Lume was my last hope.
My last hope.
But yeah.
So I decided that I was going to hold off.
And then so they make the playoffs.
So I bought the one that they wore in the playoffs, which was the 1967 throwback, which
I thought was pretty cool.
Because that was the last time they won the cup.
Yes.
I was a big fan of Frank Mihaljevic growing up, even though I didn't see the man play.
I was like, he was like the best player back then.
I heard he was good.
Yeah.
So I was like, I'm getting that jersey.
So that was the last.
And what year was this?
This was 2013.
I think the last jersey I bought
That I can think of
So I got
A Canada Sochi
Jersey for free
But I paid to get it lettered with Murray Philippe Lann
So that doesn't count
So I guess before that it would have been
Early 2013 maybe late 2012
I got an Evgeny Kuznetsov
Tractor Chalabinsk jersey
Oh okay
No that's not true you're right
Because I paid for my CKSA
C-S-K-A
C-S-K-A
Moscow
I have a Tarasenko
Moscow jersey
Oh nice
Which I love
And
Because we were all
Going to pick KHL teams
Back in the day
Yes
Which I still have
Also
I wrecked my streak
This summer
I bought a TFC jersey
Toronto football club
I don't own a single
TFC thing
I love
I love the TFC
Low key
Love the TFC
I never tweet about the TFC
But I watch the games
I love
I love that team
And I love going to the games
So I couldn't go
Without a jersey
Sure
I also love Jovinko
and the other ones
Jose Altidore
you don't like
Jose Altidore
why don't you like
Jose Altidore
Jose Aldo
from the UFC
Michael Bradley
well he can kick
so I mean
there's that
you ever been to
a soccer game
here
match
like
yeah
oh a match
oh boy
you ever been to
a football match
in Toronto
me and my Scottish wife
get into arguments
about that
you been to a TFC game
two I think
two but have you been
recently when they've been good no because i know you went to a david beckham game oh so three three
yes yeah i went to the beckham game where you know pause for surprise fans at the rogers center
threw beer at him really oh they came so close to decking him yeah and he was nobody made a big deal
of it oh he was pissed off oh you know who made a big deal of it david beckham oh who uh destroyed
tfc's two nothing lead and tied it up two two what did what was the chant going in the uh in
You can stick your David Beckham up your...
Are we on the radio?
Yeah, we can say that.
You can say that.
Up your...
You can say someone's being an ass.
Right, but you can't refer to...
To the buttocks.
The buttocks.
The English language is a bizarre...
And by the way, social customs, also very bizarre.
You can say it in one context, but not the other.
Ass.
Okay, now let's see what happens.
Now let's see what happens.
That's what I like doing in life.
by just throwing things out there and seeing what happens.
Are we on the radio?
It's a great thing to do with your career, by the way.
Take Steve's advice.
Just throw it out there and see what happens.
Maybe that's what that guy was doing with the beer.
So, since Steve's angling for that, let's talk about it.
Let's get it out of the way.
Listen, Baltimore, we're sorry.
Yes.
And baby last year in the Toronto stands, we're also sorry about that.
But why did they bring the baby to the game?
But, but seriously, why did they bring the baby to the game?
It's so useless.
Oh my God.
No, I'm not saying, I'm not saying someone should be throwing beer, but why are you bringing
a baby to a game like that?
No, I'm lampooning it.
I'm making fun of the, like people were going, but why was there a baby there?
Okay.
Putting that to the side.
Why is someone throwing a beer?
Let's put that in the talk about later column.
Let's focus on why are you throwing things?
Yeah, it's fair.
It's fair.
Now we, we all know it was one idiot.
The one thing that
I tweeted about this yesterday
Because I got a little heated
I got a little heated
Oh damn
And I want to back off
My tweets a little bit
And not recant
But
I don't
That would be a great podcast
By the way
I apologize for what I said
On Twitter
Yeah
Yeah
It's almost like
It would be long
I'm sorry for the things
That I did when I was drunk
Right
I'm sorry for what I said
When I was drunk
Twitter's like
A long episode
Yeah
I
Wow
That's
I don't
I don't want that to happen
Episode one is four hours.
I don't like 50,000 tweets, man.
Sorry, I cut you off.
But yeah, the thing that I said yesterday on,
I said, you know, it really doesn't matter
whether he goes to jail or pays a fine
or whatever it is that could happen
because that technically could be filed
under assault with a weapon.
If he connected, yeah.
Yes.
No, no, no.
Even if you miss.
If you are potentially causing bodily harm,
it's still assault with a weapon
whether you connect or not.
So, you know, or public nuisance or whatever it is.
Whatever the punishment legally is, if there is any at all, the one thing that this guy is really going to suffer from, or girl, because it could be either, is just the social outcasting that will happen when your friends and family found out that you're that a-hole.
You're that a-hole.
I wanted to catch the guy, and then the second they, like, let's assume the guy who the police pointed out is the guy.
The second they put his picture out there, I felt a little bad.
I'm like, and his life's over.
Me too
And he's fired
And like
This is all
He's gonna get to talk about
At any social gathering
And family gathering
For
Nah I'm good
For at least two years though
But then
When people introduce him
You'll be like
Yeah you might remember him
From
True beer it
Beer it
Hunsoon Kim
And I mean
Like months and months
Are gonna pass
The summer's gonna come
It's gonna be a great day outside
He's gonna be at a barbecue
Hey hey Ken
Here's a beer
Oh don't go throwing it though
Oh no
Get out of the way guys
Get out of the way.
Get out of the way.
I had to give it to him in a cup.
I had to give it to him.
It's okay, guys.
It's okay, everybody.
Or he'll be like, hey, you want to go see a game at the...
You want to go see a Blue Jays?
No, you can't.
You can't do that.
See you later.
You want to see a Leaf game?
You still out there?
Now, if I was running the ACC, I'd ban him too.
He's going to get a ban from Rogers Center.
He or she is going to get a ban from Rogers Center for life.
They might get an MLB wide ban.
That wouldn't surprise me either.
Yeah, and what I was saying in my video is, I mean, Rodgers are part owners of MLSC.
Could he not just be banned from those four teams too?
Well, even if Rodgers doesn't play into it.
Who's going to stick up for him and be like, no, you shouldn't do that.
Nobody who runs the thing at MLSC is going to go, yeah, we're okay with it.
Because he's got a history.
Once you have a history of something, he didn't do anything there,
but the MLSC and Rodgers and everybody's got the right to refuse anybody based on that.
I don't know how it works, but now, sorry.
I just want to say this.
I tweeted, I'm like, you know what, that's going to be the thing.
But people took it as, and Mrs. Dangle even tweeted me,
and she's like, I don't like that this is becoming a witch hunt.
And she's right.
Yeah, no, she is.
And that's the thing, is that I regret that,
because when I tweeted this stuff, I don't think his picture was out yet.
I hadn't seen it.
So maybe it was, but I hadn't seen it.
And that's the thing, it's like, if you know who the guy is,
then just deal with the guy.
Like, if you don't, like, releasing the picture to me was like, oh, no.
Like, he's in trouble, man.
There are crazy people out there.
Next time you go to a Jays game, just look up a little bit and count the cameras.
Okay?
Count the cameras and ask yourself if you've seen the angle from that camera before.
Odds are you haven't.
There's probably more security cameras than there are, like, TV cameras and all that.
So, look, pictures out there.
Police are investigating.
let them do their thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let them do their thing.
I mean,
this whole thing about it
might have been a girl,
I think,
this blonde woman.
I don't,
the video I saw,
it looked an awful lot
like kind of a frisbee throw
from a guy in the sweater
that guy was wearing.
But,
I don't know,
maybe,
maybe there's some deceptive angle.
Here's the thing we haven't seen.
I don't know.
Right?
Remember that
there was 4K cameras
in the Rogers Center.
Yes,
I know for a fact
the game was shot in 4k shot in 4k so while we don't have access to those tapes right now you
can bet everybody who is investigating does and when you 4k cameras on that they can zoom in as
close as they want they'll find you yeah the other thing is roger center has and i know this because
i used to date someone who worked there uh has cameras everywhere they have video footage
apparently of that they have to like delete and get rid of of people in the in the hotel
getting naked with the shades open.
Like mid-game?
Not mid-game, but that's the thing.
You can look into the stadium
if you're staying at the hotel
that's attached to the Rogers Center.
Always close the curtains in a hotel,
especially if it's a baseball stadium.
Yeah, so people are in there having a good time,
high-fiving it.
So it's one of those things
that they have the angles,
let's let the police and the Rogers Center
and everybody else do their jobs,
and that guy
life's going to suck
for him for a while
here's what I think
the just punishment is
you ready
he has to pay
pay the expenses for this
go to Baltimore
volunteer at a shelter
for a month
oh boy
that's what I would say
oh boy
for a month
for a month
Jesus
I think that's fair
it is a long time
what is it
200 hours of community service
it's like being in prison
for a month
being in Baltimore
is not like being in prison
yeah but he doesn't live there
yeah he needs to work
and have a family
I don't know
I don't know if he's got
kids
just think about
the goodwill that... You don't get to see them for a month.
So he's putting himself in jail. Well, he can come back on the weekends.
No, that's too much.
That's still very much jail.
I just feel like we need
to have some goodwill to Baltimore. If it's him.
Yeah, if it's him. I want something good
to come out of this for Baltimore.
Because I feel like we need to...
A, this city needs to rehab its image because
this is the second time this has happened in two playoff
years, right? B,
it's such a...
It's an international story.
But that would never happen in
my city
I have a question
about that
when did the Jays
get from the place
to go get drunk
cause
oh they were always
it's always been that way
it's cheap
there's too many
drunk people now
you go and it's just
a whole bunch of guys
and they're wasted
and it's not good
you don't see that
at Raptors games
you don't see them
at Leafs games
they all stop serving
here's the thing
and it's just as expensive
yeah but at Jays game
you see groups of guys
who are just wasted
can I
go ahead
so do you guys remember
the $2, $500
$500 level
seats. The Toonie Tuesdays.
They used to do that for the Blue Jays.
It wasn't those two summers ago.
No, it was six or seven years ago now.
No, it was. You could go to a
Jays game for like 20 bucks. And the reason they stopped?
You could go to a Jays game for the price of a
junior hockey game. The reason they stopped was
because of the amount of alcohol people were consuming.
They were walking in and they had all this money left
over and they're like, oh, well, we could sell
about the same amount of tickets if
it's not Toonie Tuesday and not alienate
the other fans who aren't rip-roaring drunk.
I think that
But Blue Jays games used to be about, well, I mean, the team sucks, but you can go get drunk and have a good time.
But now the team doesn't suck, and people are used to going there and getting drunk and having a good time.
And now everybody's coming all at once.
All the drunks.
All the hardcore drunk fans coming at once.
I think it's a—is it a baseball thing?
I don't know.
Or is it just a Blue Jays thing?
I think it's a Toronto baseball thing.
I don't know.
I mean, having not—I've seen baseball in other parks.
I've been to Cleveland.
I've been to Detroit.
I've been to New York.
Never seen that.
Never been to a playoff game, though.
They were playing to win when I went in San Francisco.
Oh, really?
They were very drunk.
So I'm sure it happens.
Like football, for sure.
Yeah.
Football is for sure like that.
Football is like Toronto baseball.
Except times five.
Is it because there's more people?
Is it the more people there are, the more you want to drink?
I think it's that it's special, too, right?
Like it's a special time, so you take it.
There's people today are taking the day off,
or the afternoon off, just so they can watch the Jays.
Why?
because they want to get hammered.
They could watch it work on their MLB app or whatever.
But no, no, no.
Sportsnet Now app.
Yeah, Sportsnet Now app.
Thank you.
But you have that.
There's the social part of it too, right?
It's a special occasion,
and I think that leads to more people getting drunk.
I don't blame the Rogers Center on this one at all.
Nothing they could have done better.
Let me throw this one out there
because I think this is the answer.
Commoners
Can afford to go
To the Jays game
Yes
Commoners
Cannot afford to go
To see the Toronto Raptors
Or the Toronto Maple Leafs
The unwashed
Attend baseball parks
So
When I saw the Raptors
A couple years ago
Right before the Rudy Gay trade
They trade Rudy Gay
Out of town
Oh man
Right before this
Doesn't that feel like
It was ancient
It was
It was two and a half years ago
Three years ago
So he
I remember looking
I had such a great time
I remember going
No one goes to see
This team anyway
How much are season's tickets?
Just for fun.
I could split them with people.
Do you know how much they were?
Six grand.
Woo!
Six grand.
That ain't bad for 41 games.
Where are you sitting?
You're in the lower bowl.
Six, seven grand.
You know what?
That is good value, but who just has six grand for entertainment?
Well, I certainly didn't.
This is what I'm saying.
But it was like, I was surprised.
I was surprised.
But when you compare that, say, to the Leafs, and I'm backing up your point on this one, it's long and belabored, but do you guys remember what the cost was to sit in the lower bowl or the front section, the first section of the Maple Leafs playoff games when they were in in 2013?
It was probably at least $500.
$10,000 to sit at the class.
Okay, so I was right.
You know what I mean?
Technically, I was right.
Yeah, there were tickets going for $10,000.
$10,000 for one playoff game.
So you're right. I think it's that the masses can afford to go.
And you know what? Put 55,000 people anywhere, and something is going to go wrong.
There's 55,000 people!
Here's one. I was at a Boston Bruins game in Boston against the Leafs.
Do they play in Boston?
They do. March 2011, so just a couple months before they win the cup.
so everyone in my section was like relatively friendly i went there expecting a certain thing
i mean you see videos on youtube of them like kicking habs fans in the back when they're just
trying to take a pee oh yeah oh i i went really i went to the bathroom mid-shift and people were
getting mad at me for standing up screw you screw you i'm not gonna be that one caught in the
bathroom at intermission sorry so anyway that's what i was going prepared for oh it's it's awful
but that's what it was going prepared for
but everyone in my section was pretty nice
and I went hey you know you guys are pretty good
you know you
might have this
reputation a little bit but no you're fine
like
do you find that's often
the case and the guy goes ah nah
if you were sitting up there you'd probably
get your ass kicked
I was just like wow
and I did have
stuff shouted at me from the higher up sections
Really?
Go back to Toronto, you effing Q.
Nice.
Yeah.
Is that a word that rhymes with gear?
Richard.
Richard Gear.
Richard Gear.
Yes.
You know what's funny?
We freak out about one beer can, right?
Because ultimately, at the end of the day, did the beer can connect?
No, the beer can didn't connect.
Is it wrong?
Yes.
But it's one guy who threw a beer can, okay?
Not the end of the freaking world, everybody.
The thing that I laugh at
When I see football
Football matches from Europe
Oh soccer
Can you imagine
Can you imagine that happening here
It would never happen here
And that's expected to happen
They throw fire
And connect
I was like I've never seen
A fan throw something at a baseball player
In my life I can't remember it
And then someone just sends me a video
of someone trying to take a corner kick in Turkey.
They couldn't do it.
They couldn't do it.
So, like...
I want to see this video.
It's funny.
Like, we see it and we're like,
that's awful.
That's embarrassing.
And then Mike Darnay,
our favorite Pens blogger there,
goes, LOL, all of Canada is looking for a guy
who threw a beer can.
And then you kind of go,
well, when you put it like that,
yeah, I guess it's not so bad.
Listen, Mike Darnay,
all of Canada is pretty small, man.
That's why we're all looking.
There are just many of us.
Yeah, we're just spread out.
Because we believe we can find them
because there's only so many of us.
Yeah.
Anyway, we wanted to not,
we didn't want to dwell on the bad and the negative
and preach from our high horse on this.
Obviously, it sucks
and it blows for the reputation of our city.
But at the end of the day,
it happens everywhere
and you cannot tell me,
no sports fan can look me in the eye
and say it hasn't happened in my town.
Now, I do have a question.
I have a moral dilemma.
Well, I was just going to say, it's not just Toronto.
All of Canada has to answer for Blue Jays fans.
Yeah.
Because American CS has won.
Oh, for sure.
Toronto doesn't exist.
Yellowknife, Toronto, same thing.
Iqaluit.
Iqaluit.
Winnipeg.
Quebec City.
Kenora.
Still picking on Kenora.
It's true.
It's all the same.
I love the announcers.
The baseball announcers can't say Toronto, Ontario.
They have to go Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Earth.
Planet Earth
Milky Way Galaxy
Not here
It's fully
It's not in the United States
We just want you to
Just so we're clear
Not in the continental United States
They say CN Tower
Like it's the first time
They've ever read it on paper
The CN Tower
I don't quite know how to say this
Diabetes?
One of my favorite
And there's the Ripley's
Believe it or not
Aquarium
And that's French
We're here for a game of
bossy ball
bossy ball
the
the thing
the moral
here's
okay so
here's the
moral question
gentlemen
alright so the
three of us
go to a game
and let's say
we bring our
friend from
our cantankerous
twitter friend
Justin Fisher
with us
oh dear
all four of us
screaming obscenities
at everybody
well we wouldn't
because we're
smarter than that
exactly
because he's
cantankerous
and so
cantankerous
Justin
by the way
that should be
his twitter name
cantankerous
Justin
gets a few too many
in him. Which is two.
Yeah.
Oh, shots fired, Justin.
Yeah, oh, shoot. And we are
in the outfield, and Adam Jones
and Kim are racing for a
ball. It was hit to
center left, and they're
going for it, and our
friend, cantankerous Justin, throws the beer.
Okay? Throws the beer.
It misses. Same sort of
situation that happened on Tuesday.
Would you, as a friend, turn him in?
I would definitely be like, let's get the F out of here.
Yeah?
Yes, let's get the F out of here.
I'd be apologizing to everybody.
But would you be able to turn your friend in?
I would just tell him, look, stupid.
You're on every camera in the country.
Turn yourself in.
I don't think I could do it myself.
But I would convince him to do it himself
Okay, look
At this point, if you do something in a sports stadium
They know
You're caught
You're caught the instant you do it
Just turn yourself in
You moron
Like
Forget the fact that there's cameras
There's also
50,000 people
You're getting caught
Sorry
I'm actually surprised that they haven't had somebody else come out and say
Hey I was sitting right behind this guy
Or this girl
Jesse
And if you're not caught inside the stadium
You'll be caught because you're the only person
Leaving the Blue Jays game
Halfway through it
That's tied
Yeah the tied playoff Blue Jays game
With the Jays up to bat
Jesse
I live by chameleon air songs
And no snitching
Yeah I mean it's easy to say
No I am a law abiding citizen
But okay
Think of all your friends who you would turn in
And okay now you just listed
someone who's not
your friend
now would you do
what Steve did
and say listen
yeah
you should turn
yourself in
dude you're getting
caught
turn yourself in
you idiot
but I wouldn't
turn him in myself
what if you
officer
arrest this man
security
what if it was
Justin
what if it was
you could do it
and it was like
like
Crimestoppers
like you're anonymous
would you do that
oh if I get a thousand bucks
oh for sure
my buddy
would understand
I believe the Toronto Sun
was offering $10,000
and it turned out to be
potentially one of their
one of their guys
yeah
I mean
look
you go to jail
for like the night
but then after
we split
the money
come on man
come on man
alright
I just thought I'd ask the question
I pretend I don't know you
for a week
collect the money
from the Toronto Sun
guess what
five grand
yeah
okay we're agreed then
Yeah, you definitely convinced them to turn themselves in, but...
Can you afford oak?
Well, your Uncle Stevie can.
So when we come back,
we got to talk about the Leafs lineup for tonight
and really just talk about a little bit more
about the preseason,
especially one Freddy Gauthier,
who some people have been like,
it's like when you're high school
and everybody's maturing at different rates
and all of a sudden one day someone comes in
And you're like, you are far better looking than I ever thought possible.
Because I am 15 and I don't know what's possible.
But my gosh, do you look much better now?
This is Freddy Gauthier.
He is our teen romance.
Teen romance Freddy Gauthier.
Next on the Steve Dangle Podcast.
That was great.
That end of that last segment was great.
Because now I know what the inside of Adam from high school's head was like.
Oh yeah.
I mean, what was better than the first day of high school?
it was amazing
oh no
the first day of every
the first day of every grade
was great
cause you saw
who got
who got the upgrades
over the summer
who got the upgrades
this is not recorded
by the way
oh
it's not a part of it
no we didn't
no
Steve was trying to start it
I was trying to start it
oh wait
okay fine fine
no no
you can't recreate it
that's done
or maybe all of this
is going in
maybe we're back
on the fan
I didn't want to seem
okay I didn't want to seem
that vain
but we all were
in high school
yeah
yeah okay fine
okay
fine
you wanna
no no
no we're going
no we're going
we're going
I didn't think we were going
I thought
I thought we were just
having a discussion
among friends
but you know
and here's the problem
for me
I never had the upgrade
I actually
I
if you look at my
high school pictures
I got progressively worse
over the years
because what happened was
oh you were a rock star though
well
if you ask me
but in grade 11
I got braces
and then
i started to eat mcdonald's all the time and maybe underage drink maybe allegedly and maybe
your weight loss plan was to switch from beer to a two six jack so i maybe put on 50 pounds in grade
12 so i maybe didn't uh yeah and those those are the years when people don't care what your
personality is it's more about what your looks are there is a video that has hopefully been
burned to ash of uh adam walking out of uh buddy's cottage oh no and the narrator on the camera like
Because Adam just walks out, and he's scratching his belly, and the narrator just goes,
well, there's Adam looking slim and trim.
You lost it.
No, he was right.
I was not at a good spot.
You lost it.
Can we talk about, though, someone who definitely got some upgrades over the summer?
Oh, you.
Someone who definitely looks better on the first day of school now.
Adam.
Golden shoehorn.
I love it.
Freddie Gauthier.
Freddie the goat.
So, I, full disclosure, was like, I was watching the game, and I was thinking, hey, his skating looks a lot better.
And then I heard the announcers go, well, and Freddy Gauthier's skating looks a lot better.
I'm like, the announcer just confirmed what I thought.
But is that true?
Am I actually seeing that, or am I just not?
No, you're seeing it.
You're 100% seeing it.
I mean, the Leafs have Barb Underhill, not on staff, because I think she probably makes more as a consultant.
But she is a former figure skater, former world champion, and she's teaching these guys how to skate.
And I think, let's call it what it is with Freddie Gauthier.
And I think people being honest with yourselves, you'll know I'm right.
How would Babcock say it?
Well, let's be honest.
You know, not everyone was a fan of that pick when it happened in 2013.
It was before I got here.
But, you know, some people are cheering for this kid to fail.
And I think that's wrong
You know
He's
This big guy
Seems like he's
Of the old regime
And I understand that
But
He's a player
Okay now
If you're Donald Trump
Do his scouting report
Freddie the Goat
You're gonna love him
You see
No I gotta talk like a fish
Freddie the Goat
You're gonna love him
His skating
It's wonderful
It's the best skating
I've ever seen
His shot
It's like no shot
You've ever seen
Gretzky, bum
Freddy Gauthier, the best
You gotta see Steve do this on the video portion
Of the podcast too because his hands
You got your little hands out
Your Donald Trump hands
So Freddy Gauthier, are we actually looking at a guy who could be an NHLer?
Yeah, I don't know about this season
Like I heard from a couple people like
Oh yeah, he's gonna make it out of camp
Alright, let's calm down
I don't know about that
The Leafs have a full line that they're gonna have to cut
That's gonna be real hard
Yeah, I keep teasing this video and it keeps getting pushed back
Because stuff keeps happening
but I'm going to try to go through the Leafs lineup
and the way I see it,
let's say they have 13 forward slots.
They might have 14,
a full lineup and two spares.
I think it's going to be one spare.
The way I see it,
they got 26 guys competing for those spots.
Now you can eliminate one
because they already said Soshnikov's going to start with the Marlies.
So 25.
It's going to be tough for the GOAT to make it,
But the preseason is important because if he performs well now, which he is,
I think he's making believers out of some people who were not,
he could be an early call-up.
And guys get hurt.
Every year it happens.
Well, and you mentioned something on the last show
that I thought was really, really interesting.
Because when you make a call-up, you don't want them to be an AHL call-up.
You want them to be an NHL call-up who's ready.
Yes.
Yes, you want to call up an NHL player.
Good teams have NHL players playing in the American Hockey League.
That's just how it is.
You know, Pittsburgh, I think part of the reason they won the Cup,
obviously they have the star power, but what have we talked about?
Competent bums.
It's not the nicest sounding term, but I would argue that a Brian Rust,
I think his first name was Brian, and Connor Sheery,
they're just as important to a cup run because at very least they're not a liability right if you
have that star power the rest of the cheap guys you have filling that lineup can't suck because
then that cancels it out right yeah they got to be able to at least fill a role so when you're
i think i think what separates um some playoff teams from non-playoff teams teams that just
miss it every team gets injuries right yep so who has the better call-ups like let's say a guy on
the Leafs third line gets injured I need to be able to call up someone from the Marlies and you
don't notice you know what I mean yeah if okay there are your elite guys if Matthews gets hurt
Kadri, JVR, Nylander
if those guys get hurt
you know, Morgan Riley, Jake Gardner
yeah, you can't quite
replace that, but
if Colin Greening gets hurt
I need to be able to
replace that right away with a guy of equal
maybe even greater talent
this, I mean
I think they said
if I remember correctly, Connor Brown would have
made the Leafs out of camp last year
had he not gotten hurt
I might be wrong there
They said Nylander would too
But they had to send him down
The Leafs had a few guys who were good enough for the team
That they sent down for strategic
And developmental purposes
That's probably going to happen again this year
I think they want to make the playoffs
If it's possible
But they're not going to do it at the expense of
Ruining a player's development
It's very interesting
And the GOAT though I think has put himself on a lot of fans' radar
Like I saw
I saw people going
And, oh, Gauthier, he's playing in his fourth rookie tournament.
Not good for a first-round pick.
Throw it out the window that he was a first-round pick.
Throw it out the window.
He's in the pool.
He's in the same pool as Brendan Leipzig, as Josh Levo, as Connor Brown, as Mitch Marner.
They're all in the prospect pool.
How does he get into the lineup?
How does he fit?
It's about chemistry.
By the way, tonight's lineup, old Stevie boy, when he's right, he's right.
Let me pull it up.
Let me pull it up, and it's not coming up.
Here it is.
First of all, everyone's going to have a conniption about this.
First line, Matt Martin.
Oh, who's he playing with?
Matthews and Marner.
Nice.
The triple M line.
The mm line.
The ma-ma-ma line.
Yeah, the ma-ma-ma.
The Mamma Mia line
The Mar-Mat-Mar
Mar-Mat-Mar
It works
Good Pokemon
The Mar-Mat-Martin
Yeah Mar-Mat-Mar
His special attack is
Hitting everything
Except the net
Oh shots fired
Second line
JVR
Oh
Who's he playing with?
Nylander
Which means
Zach Hyman
Is the other winger
Because they're going to keep Hyman and Nylander together, it looks like.
I think Zach Hyman makes this team, man.
Signs are pointing towards it.
Babcock could not have said more good things about him last year
when the Leafs were the last place team in the NHL.
Zach Hyman is what...
We thought he was.
And we let him off the hook.
No, he wasn't.
Zach Hyman is what a lot of coaches, you know, you kind of...
Coaches say the same things about Zach Hyman that you roll your eyes at
if it were said about a veteran player.
But Zach Hyman has that work ethic
and that sandpaper
with upside as well.
I think...
So he's got the grit chart
and a little of the skill too?
He's got...
You know, you sign a Matt Martin
for what Zach Hyman already brings.
Does that make sense?
Yeah, but I feel like
if it comes down to a power play,
you could put Zach Hyman on it
and he'd do well.
I think you could.
I'm not sure about Matt Martin on that.
I'm not sure.
No, but do you understand what I'm saying?
Like he said, I want players working as hard as Zach Hyman.
And the Marlies, all they would do,
I couldn't get anyone to give me a concrete answer
because I get the impression Zach Hyman was embarrassed a little bit
because it seemed like they brought him up in every video session.
Guys, here's what Hyman is doing.
You need to be doing that.
And they would show everybody.
oh so there might have been a little resentment towards him too right i don't know about resentment
but like i mean like if you're hyman you got to be a little embarrassed because every single video
session they're going look at this kid and i mean he was in the ahl for a reason i doubt every game
was stellar i'm sure he got yelled at a couple times um but they love this kid the third line
connor brown freddie goche and casperi captain how much more can you say none of you are making
the team I'm sorry hey you know who's looked great this preseason though Kasperi Kapanen he
sure has and you know it's funny he's another late first rounder where I go you know I don't
I feel like when you have first round the way that people's minds look at it is all 30 players
must be superstars must make it or not even make it superstars or pick was a failure well the
The majority is, the majority of first-rounders don't even get to their second contract into the NHL.
Wow.
That's the majority.
The vast, vast, vast majority.
Kapanen, by my eye, okay, he was a healthy scratch in Game 1 of the Marlies Calder Cup run,
but by my eye, he was one of their best forwards.
And they healthy scratched a lot of players because they were rotating them in and stuff too, right?
That's not an insult.
He was a healthy scratch in Game 1, and then, if I remember correctly, was never a healthy scratch again.
Well, there you go.
And you know what?
That's going to be an awfully good-looking first line for the Marlies.
Go Jay Brown and Kapanen.
And then the fourth line tonight,
which I think is going to be the Leafs' first line,
Nazem Kadri at center,
Leo Komarov on the right,
which means who's on the left?
Milan Michalik.
Milan Michalik.
I think they really like Bozak and JVR together,
So I think that'll be
The start of your second line
And take your guess
Who you want to throw
On the right there
I think Malay Mahalik
Might be on the first line
So we've got
Greening
Collin Greening
Brooks Lake
And Tyler Bozak
Are the three
Big omissions
Up front
Do you see Brooks Lake
In the top six at all?
No not in the top six
He's not going to play
Every game this season
He's going to have to sit
Well yeah
He's going to have to be
a healthy scratch
I think Colin Greening
will probably have to be too
but so will
a lot of guys
so if Marner makes it
so will he
yeah and people
are going to have
a conniption
but
that's okay
it is what it is
let them have
the conniption
have a conniption
if Austin Matthews
has to sit
then you have
a conniption
yeah that's not
going to happen
that's not going to happen
do you have
the defensive pairings
I could
look them up
real quick
that would be really great
for now
I'll stretch
while you do that
thank you
Yeah, I think the interesting thing in all this is that third line.
I think the most interesting part of the Toronto Maple Leafs
is going to be who that third line is.
It's that, because it will be a young team.
So you think, you got to think Nylander-Hyman for sure.
And I thought that Nylander and Matthews played quite well together.
They haven't had much time to develop a rapport,
but they seem to work quite well.
And Nylander, even on the wing, he's playing center tonight.
absolutely, absolutely is a playmaking guy.
Like, he can score, but he's got vision.
Yeah, he can do it all.
His shot's disgusting.
These are the Leafs' defense pairings at practice.
So there's four of them, right?
Hunwick, Zaitsev, Marincin, Riley.
Hold on.
Isn't Hunwick a right shot?
No, he's a left.
Oh, he is. Okay.
So Hunwick on the left, Zaitsev on the right.
Marincin on the left, Riley on the right.
So Riley is still playing
And they played together last year
Yes
After Dion was traded
Which
You'll see a theme here
Jake Gardner on the left
Connor Carrick on the right
And
I think it's Nicholas
Brouillard
On the left
And
Roman Hrabarenka
On the right
Where's Roman Polak?
Well I mean
It's preseason
So he might just
Have an off day
I don't know if
I don't think he's hurt
Okay
I also don't
there's no room for him in the opening night lineup there isn't they're gonna have a two
million dollar guy who i think is gonna sit more games than he plays i it's very confusing
i was confused by that signing but i feel like they did it just because in case like okay
hunwick zeitz of morinson riley gardner carrick i think most leafs fans can live with that or you
You can change the order, whatever.
I think most Leafs fans can live with that.
There's no Corrado in there.
No.
And Corrado's played pretty well, too.
He looks good.
Yeah.
There's no Corrado or Polak.
So here's my question about...
I've got a question about Marincin.
Okay, so here's a guy that came here for basically nothing.
The Oilers were not...
Still making very little.
Yeah, well, and what we gave him...
Oh, it was like a fourth-round pick in Brad Ross.
So it was a fourth-round pick.
And a contract, basically.
what has this guy
developed into
what is
what do we have
in Martin Marincin
my favorite
my favorite
assessment of him
that I've read
is he is
he is a shutdown
defenseman
in 2016
which you can't do
what Scott Stevens
used to do
you can't do
what Ken Danico
used to do
you can't
just murder everyone
on the ice
you gotta
it's more about
possession
getting the puck
out of your zone
He's really good at doing that
Every now and then
He likes to pull the pin out
And throw a little grenade
Into the slot
Which I'm sure
Mike Babcock loves
Oh I'm sure he loves
He
Straight up
Cost the Leafs
Two games last year
Wow
He did
He cost them two games
You can definitively say
He
Coughed the puck up
In the final
I think one was
In the final minute
And I think one was
With like three minutes left
He cost them the game
And if
Bernier
Whoever was in net
Didn't do that great
Of a job in the shot
But, well, okay, Marincin sure helped it along.
You know what I mean?
Sure.
But he's solid.
He is solid.
And he's going to make mistakes.
That team last year was going to make mistakes.
And this team will too.
This team will too.
But maybe not the same way.
Hopefully less.
It's interesting to me, though,
that he seems to like that Marincin-Riley pairing so much
because I thought the big fuss with Babcock
was he really likes lefties on the left
and righties on the right.
He has enough righties to do that now.
But he doesn't seem to be doing it.
Have we seen a Zaitsev-Riley?
I don't remember.
We have seen Gardner-Kerrick in the preseason,
and we also saw it in the NHL last year.
And what do we have in Kerrick, do you think?
Oh, my God.
Leaf fans, most underrated prospect I think they got.
Honestly, I'm so excited for Connor Kerrick.
Now, is he a guy they even drafted, or did they get him in a trade?
They got him in the Brooks-Like deal.
wow they the leafs robbed the capitals blind i think
they got i think the trade was winnick and a
fourth for brooks like connor carrick in a second
wow that's a wicked deal and carrick um he's a he was an offensive monster for
the marlies he's not going to get the same freedom in the nhl
um but we saw him put up uh at least a couple goals with the leafs there
at the end of the season and did you see his hit on bobby ryan the
other night yes i did oh this kid and i got to see it in the playoffs is a nasty nasty player
he's not huge but he's thick and mean he's mean you do not like playing against connor carrick
i'm really excited for him so you think he's definitely nhl defenseman yes that's pretty
amazing that you get two nhl players for daniel winnick that i mean like quite honestly yeah i
I mean...
And a second round pick.
It's pretty good.
I guess the Capitals needed the cap space that badly.
They needed the cap space?
You see, because...
But I'm like, man, Brooks-like's not that bad.
No, he's not.
Holy smokes.
The Leafs, yeah, that was a murderous trade.
And the thing is, if Brooks-like,
and this is not anything against Brooks-like,
he's making too much money for what he is now.
But he is not a useful player.
And can step in
And if he plays
50 or 60 games
Because that's going to be
A reality for some of these guys
Great
I bet he plays as many games
As Winnick
And as Marner
You know like
Those guys are all
They're going to have to
There's going to be nights
Where you know
Babcock likes his matchups
So you know
Versus certain teams
He's going to put players in
What I love about a guy
Like Brooks like
Is he's a
Genuinely great human being
Yes he is
And that
You
I mean we
We've made fun of how much people make of that
because we say, great leadership, great leadership.
It's valuable.
You need guys in the room that are going to be super cool
and that handle not playing really well.
So the Marlies and the playoffs,
it was the first time I had really covered a team with regularity
and gone to the practices and stuff like that.
I used to think too much was made of that.
of being a great guy
in the room or whatever.
Man, it's true.
And all the Subban stuff with the team
was sick of him. I resent
that the team was sick of him.
But if you have a guy in the room people
don't like,
it does weigh on the team.
It does weigh on the team, rightly or wrongly.
The point is, trade the other guys.
That's what I was saying.
Oh, you don't like them? Good. Alright, I'll move you
out of town then. See you later. Take care.
but if you are a depth player
you better be good to be around
you better be fun to be around
and it seems like
Brooke's like
I don't know if you follow him
on Instagram
but he's had Kapanen
and Nylander over a couple times
or watching Dancing with the Stars
and like
because his wife-to-be
is on that
and I think it's
you know I just think
it's really really cool
to see that
you know what I'm
I'm so excited guys
what?
I think you've heard it
on last episode
and this one
I'm getting it back
I
Was so jacked
For the season to begin
It's the 100th year
For the NHL
100th year for the Leafs
10th season of LFR
Podcast is
Chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga
Going along
We're gonna have a big year
It's gonna be a big year
And then the World Cup
Sapped all my attention
And energy
For like two weeks
Two and a half weeks
And I was just left
Really tired by the end of it
And the best of three
Championship series
That everyone
That no one predicted
And everybody predicted
the outcome for
here's Canada's anthem
oh Canada
and team Europe
I'm telling you
they should have played
the montage
they're not the
the montage
all the European
national anthems
on top of each other
the one we played
oh yeah yeah yeah
so
I'm just
I got it all back
and I'm more excited
than I was before
there's gonna be
some magic this year
no matter what the outcome
and it's gonna be
very very exciting
now
we gotta wrap it up
on the radio portion
of the show
because we're already there.
We're already there.
Whoa!
But on the Sportsnet portion,
Sportsnet.ca portion,
where you can download
the Steve Dangle podcast
at any time,
we're going to go through,
we went through last week
the ratings that USA Today
had given potential NHL teams.
As in, where would they finish?
How are the NHL teams
going to finish this year?
Now, USA Today,
God bless them,
they had to kind of
make it up as they went along
because that's what you do
with predictions.
They're estimations.
NHL 17 has done theirs.
And I think you're going to love this because, I mean, listen, they put a lot of research and development into who these players are, what these teams actually should look like.
And I will tell you, we will run through both Western and Eastern conferences, plus a little bit of what's up in Liberty Village, our favorite feature on the show, in the download section.
How does the theme go?
That's what's up in Liberty Village.
We need to work on that.
Hey, this podcast is brought to you by Panago Pizza.
We'll see you on the download section.
Okay, so we've got a couple things to get through here.
First off, we're going to do the NHL 17 ratings.
Second, we're going to do the top 10 unrestricted free agents of the summer 2017.
Oh, okay.
Which is already out.
So let the fever begin!
What?
Yeah, that's right.
Why?
Because I think it's interesting to watch,
because all of them will be Toronto Maple Leafs.
At one point or another.
Jeff Veyette was...
We were sitting beside each other at a World Cup game,
and he was talking
about his optimism
Jeffler
yeah Jeffler
he was talking about
his optimism for the Leafs
and all this
and then he's like
and I think they go for it
this year
I can't remember
which year it was
and I'm like
yeah why is that
and he's talking about
all the contracts
that end that year
and I'm like
you're out of your mind
you're out of your mind
like you can't predict that
you can't
you're
what are you doing
what are you doing
how many times
do we say
it's nice to know Jeffler
as objective as he tries to be
is still a huge Leaf fan
Oh, my God.
No, no, no.
But, like, so am I.
Like, I'm not trying to hold myself to a higher standard.
I'm saying, why would you do that to your brain?
How many times do we go, this guy's going to free agency in a week.
Stamkos.
And then it never happens.
Stamkos.
How are you, in two years?
In two years.
You don't even know if that guy's going to be good.
He's going to blow out a knee.
He's going to get hit by Matt Cook or something.
Jeff and I, consequently, were talking about a similar thing.
And he's like, yeah, I can't wait for that Matthews-McDavid-Marner line that's going to happen in 2022.
I'm like, oh, I can't wait for free agent frenzy 2022 because that's when it's going to happen.
That's eight years from now.
I know.
Okay.
Closer to seven.
Oh.
Like, what are you doing to your brain?
Not actually, Steve, but actually.
By the way, congratulations to Connor McDavid.
We didn't get to this, but he is the youngest captain in Oilers history.
In NHL history.
NHL history.
Can I play for you
An interview I did
With Connor McDavid
Several weeks ago
You sure can
Oh Connor
Yeah
Me and my boy C-Dawg
C-Max
I actually asked him
About this very thing
And this is on
Breakfast Television
So he probably didn't know
About this a few weeks ago
No
It was right before
The World Cup too
It'll be interesting
To see what happens
Now going into this season
You've obviously got
Some huge changes
On the Oilers
We're talking about
Milan Lucic
And you know
Taylor Hall's been traded, Adam Larson's joining the team.
You've got a really great young core there, and you have for a long time.
There's one thing, though, that's missing,
and it's something that Wayne Gretzky held and Mark Messier held
and Doug Wade held and Ryan Smith and, most recently, Andrew Ferenc.
A lot of people are questioning,
are you the next captain of the Edmonton Oilers?
I don't really want to talk too much about that.
So, I mean, I'm just looking to have a good training camp
and show everyone that I'm ready to go again
and show them the respect of my teammates and coaches all over again,
just like I tried to do last year.
So, we'll see what happens or anything like that,
but that's not too much of an issue right now.
Oh, Adam.
I had to ask.
I had to ask.
I said, before we did that interview, I'm like, I'm going for it.
And I shouldn't have done that.
But I had to ask.
Adam is a professional young boy,
but he's also a very respectful young boy.
You didn't have to throw Ferentz in there, Adam.
You didn't.
You didn't, but you kind of did
because he's the current Oilers captain.
Was.
Was.
Yeah, well, yeah, you got...
Unceremoniously stripped, yeah.
You stripped of a roster spot as well.
But you went from Wayne Gretzky
and Mark Messier and Doug Waite
and Ryan Smith and Andrew Ferentz.
that's cute
that was cute
so he answers
at that point
I'm like yep
so he's gonna be captain
oh 100%
and we all knew
we all knew
but you know what
the reason I brought
that clip up
was because
I respect the way
he dipsy doodled
his way around
that answer
oh I'm just
trying to have
a good camp
and I don't really
you know
NHL media training
yeah he's good
NHL players
NHL players
suck at keeping secrets
yes
yes
alright
NHL
17
simulation
ratings. This is how NHL
17 says the season
should go. Now, they're not saying that
it has to go this way. Please don't get
your nose out of joint if your team isn't
going to do well. Your what? Your nose out of joint.
I don't know. My mom used that the other day.
Once an episode, Adam is like a
mid-50s aunt.
He's got a really big hat on
and it's got a flower in it and he says something
ridiculous. And he
cleans a smudge off your face with spit.
Because, you know, when you smell something funny, it's like your nose gets out of joint, right?
So you don't know to get your nose out of joint.
And plus, I also thought it fit because hockey players break their noses all the time.
No.
Just saying.
Just saying.
So here's how the Western Conference shakes out.
Nashville Predators with 110 points in number one.
Whoa!
And I'm starting from first to worst.
Dallas Stars, 107 points.
Good enough for second.
They say San Jose also has 107 points, but they will be third.
So I guess the head-to-head will be, or the goal differential, I'm not sure which one.
Whatever.
Chicago Blackhawks, 102 points.
At number five in the conference, but in the wild card,
because the NHL is goofy,
the St. Louis Blues with 95 points.
Yeah, that makes sense, because Central Division, right?
Five teams from the Central would make it.
Los Angeles Kings at 93 points.
Squeak.
The other wild card team, and again, I'm really surprised by this.
I was surprised with USA Today.
I'm surprised again.
The Minnesota Wild making it.
Why do people love them so much?
With 87 points.
Who did they add over the summer?
Bruce Boudreaux
Has to be
Yeah
No
That's a good add
That's a good add
Bruce Boudreaux has to be
That is a potentially
Team changing add
And
In the last playoff spot
If I'm counting correctly
Wasn't that it?
Yep
You are
Oh okay
The Edmonton Oilers
No
85 points
I need to see this now
There's gonna be haves and have nots
The Edmonton Oilers
No no no Steve
Why why why
Because I don't want you
But I need to see the list
I need to see the list
That you
Wait 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
No, you're right.
Wow.
Edmonton Oilers.
Yo, can you give Connor McDavid two heart trophies if they make the playoffs?
Yeah.
Can he be the first player to ever have that happen?
He deserves the heart and the Jack Adams if they make it.
Yeah, oh yeah.
Oh yeah.
And Todd McClellan, I don't know, give him something else.
Give him a pin.
Just barely edged out are three teams.
The Calgary Flames with 84 points, so they're edged out by one point.
Coyotes, edged out by two points with 83.
Jets, 82 points
Edged out by 3 points
EA Sports loves Canada
Anaheim Ducks, 77 points
Okay
A lot of people think they're going to take a dip
Not like that
I'm one of those people, that's a dip
That's like 25 points
At least 20 points
Why do people think they're going to take a dip?
I mean, Freddie Anderson not being there
By the way, shout out to all the Ducks fans
Who actually tweeted me after the podcast
Last episode and were like
Please take care of Anderson
We really did love him
I know
It's sad
And here Steve is
Like
Taking Anderson for granted
I'm not
Adam
Doesn't
Doesn't like him
Doesn't think he's a good person
I think he
Thinks he kicks puppies
What
Well I mean
I've seen him do it
But
They traded their
Starting goaltender
That's gonna hurt ya
And they replaced
Bruce Boudreaux
With Randy Carlisle
Like I've never seen
More of a U-turn
Like, more of a 180 in terms of style.
And that's if Hampus Lindholm and Ricard Raquel play.
Yeah.
Now, it looks like Raquel's going to get done, I think, based on what I saw last time.
Lindholm?
I don't know.
I don't know.
Are they going to trade Cam Fowler?
I don't know.
Randy probably wouldn't like Hampus Lindholm anyway.
I don't know.
Colorado Avalanche with 64 points.
Good enough for second last...
Sorry, 74 points.
Oh.
Good enough for a second last place in the conference.
And in the last place in the Western Conference,
the team that traded prospects and picks for Eric Goodbranson,
the Vancouver Canuckmans.
With how many points?
63.
That's the same amount from USA Today, I believe.
Man.
It is the same amount.
You're right.
So, just to make sure.
And by the way, that would be last place in the NHL by a country mile.
Who's the second, or what's the second last?
Colorado.
And then, we'll get into it.
We have made so much fun of the Canucks, and they deserved it.
Screw you.
They deserved it.
This year's, I don't think this year's Vancouver Canucks are three wins worse than last year's Leafs.
I agree with that.
They're six points behind last year's Leafs.
They're five points behind the Leafs the year before.
But remember, remember that they are playing teams because the Western Conference, at least by this, it's a conference of have and have-nots.
There are only two teams by this metric that have points in the 90s.
There are four that have it in the 100s and the rest of them have it in the 80s because there are teams that have and teams that have not.
So I think what they're banking on is those divisional and those inter-conference games, which there are far more numerous than the ones where they're going to play against the Eastern Conference.
where the Vancouver Canucks just straight up
are not going to stand a chance
because they're a different era team.
It's, yes.
So I think of styles.
Yes.
Right?
So are the Oilers better than the Canucks,
for example, on paper?
Like, let's say,
let's pick a random Eastern Conference team
out of a hat, right?
To play the Vancouver Canucks
or the Edmonton Oilers.
Who would you expect
To win
I might say the Canucks
However
What has the Canucks back end done
I think it's gotten slower
Oh yeah
And you're going to throw that out
Against Connor McDavid
And his band of merry men
And let's not take away from Ryan Nugent Hopkins
Nugent Tompkins
And Jordan Eberle
And
Niall Yakupoff
He's not a slow player.
Who do you think is better on paper?
The Boston Bruins or the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Who's better on paper?
Yeah.
Bruins.
I would say the Boston Bruins.
However, I am dying to see what the Leafs youngsters do to that Boston defense.
Whereas with a team like Buffalo, I think the Leafs will struggle a little bit more
because the Buffalo's faster.
Yeah, but their defense in the Atlantic is no good.
No good.
Well, except for Tampa, which is monstrous.
And Florida has Zach Blatt
Who cares who else they have
And I mean Shea Weber
They have Notka Branson
That's what they have
Detroit
I am dying to see what the Leafs youngsters
Do to Detroit
It's not looking like a good year for Detroit
It's not looking like a good year
But
Who looks better on paper
Detroit or Toronto
I'd say probably Detroit
But stylistically
I'm dying to see what the Leafs can do to them
And the one thing that you never see in matchups
Are head coaches
Head coaches don't get a rating
and I think they should in the NHL games.
I think your coaching should count for something.
That is interesting.
Because it does count for something in the NHL,
perhaps now more than ever.
The skill gap that used to exist,
I think,
and I have no analytics to back this up,
but I'm sure they're out there,
has diminished.
The difference between good players and great players
is a lot smaller than it used to be.
You know what I mean?
And that's the thing.
Guys who are in the third and fourth line
back in the day were still
bonafide NHLers. Now,
you don't know.
You don't know, man.
If a team's deep enough, the first
two lines of the AHL team could
easily play in the NHL.
I think Ray Ferraro said it
recently. Part of the reason scoring's down is
there are fewer bad players.
I mean, can't take
anything away from Bobby Orr. Except for Paul Morton.
Paul Morton's terrible.
You can't take
anything away from Bobby Orr.
however
he was
however Steve's gonna take
something away from
no he was smoking guys
who barely belonged
in the league
yeah
in a time when
the expansion
expanded to players
that would have never
got a job
the league went from
six teams to twelve
and in the Stanley Cup
like there's a reason
the Blues made it
to the Stanley Cup final
for like three or four
straight years
and there's a reason
they lost it every time
well apparently
they won the
bad conference
apparently the
six teams
that the original six teams stayed in their conference
and all the new teams were in another conference.
Yeah, to give them a fighting chance.
That's crazy.
That's crazy.
The NHL was a wild time.
It was.
It was a city place.
Never mind the goaltenders who are wearing normal clothes
and standing up the entire time.
And the pads were like feathers and they get wet
and the equipment gets heavy.
It doesn't happen anymore.
So let's talk about the Eastern Conference, okay?
We've got Tampa Bay, no surprise,
107 points
that's my team
that's who I would pick
I think it is interesting
that
the way that the
the NHL game
broke it down
there is
a
seven
eight point gap
between
number two
in the conference
and the
last wild card spot
wow
okay
nah
oh a gap
between number two
number two is 99
last wild card spot
91
so that's not a huge gap
when you consider
what happened
in the Western Conference.
There are seven teams,
seven teams in the 90s points.
Wow.
Points of 90s.
There's a better way to say it,
but I don't know.
I've been up since 4.30.
Give me a break.
Montreal Canadiens at number two
with 99 points.
Okay, so we've got Tampa at 107.
Wow!
Montreal with 99.
Carey Price, man.
There you go.
Carey Price.
Andrew Berkshire did say it.
If you take injuries into account,
what team has improved the most from last year?
Or what was the biggest improvement
made to any one team
and he goes
Scrivens Condon
to
Price Montoya
you can ignore
Montoya
yeah just Price
Washington Cavaliers
no surprise
in third at 97 points
Pittsburgh Penguins
93 points
doesn't mean
they're not a great team
hey they weren't even
in a playoff spot
at Christmas
and they won the cup
so
and again
not surprised as well
there's a three way tie
for
at 93 points
so have we had
a wild card team yet?
We have not had a wildcard team yet.
So the wildcards actually in the Eastern Conference,
the way it shakes out, according to the NHL 17,
is that the last two teams actually in the conference
end up with the wildcard spots.
Because the Eastern Conference is far more level,
shall we say, than the West.
I don't know about that.
Anyway.
Anyway.
So Florida Panthers with 93 points
and the Philadelphia Flyers at 93 points.
Those are the two wildcards.
No.
No, they're not.
Okay.
So Tampa's number one, Montreal's number two,
Washington number three, Pittsburgh number four,
Florida and Philly at five and six and then our wildcard teams the New York Islanders with 92
points which doesn't surprise me New York Islanders should be in the playoffs I think they should be
they're in roughly the same boat as Minnesota I think and the Toronto Maple Leafs that's crazy
I think that's crazy I love it I love that crazy but I think it's crazy now here's I love that
crazy i saw this i did see this today and here first of all i went yay that's amazing then i
went well roman polak's an 85 but the overall rating system really good guys the overall
rating is really good it doesn't count it doesn't count the overall rating does not count for much
i i got scolded your individual skills that count in yeah the overall rating means nothing
Squidly squat
Which makes me go
Well then why do you have it
Because you need
An overall rating Steve
But if it means nothing
Oh I
Listen
Listen
Listen
Critty Sizeman over there
Okay
Critty Sizeman
Critty Sizeman
That's not bad
Where's that been
That's awesome
I think
When you're looking
The way the NHL does it
The NHL thing does it
Is great
Because if you're looking
For more speed
Then you've got to find
A guy with great speed
Yes
And yes you have to have
An overall rating
But it's really about
the tools the player brings. I'm just saying I miss
a simpler time where
if you wanted a player with a hard shot, he had a
stick underneath him. And if you wanted
a player who hit hard, he had a hammer underneath him.
That's why I always got Christian LaFlem.
Because he used to just rail people.
It was amazing. I always did my fantasy
draft. I always drafted
Patrick Shelberg, who was a
73 overall, but he had a stick.
I would put him on my top line left wing
and enjoy a 70 goal
season.
Peter Forsberg,
Through the slot, Patrick Schalberg, goal.
You've said this before, Toronto Maple Leafs, chances of making the playoffs, you give them about a 25% chance.
Yeah, which means I wouldn't be shocked.
But you'd be surprised.
Pleasantly.
Shocked is a team with 10% chance.
Yes.
Surprised, I'd be surprised.
I would.
I would really genuinely be surprised.
I would have been shocked if the Buffalo Sabres made the playoffs two years ago.
Yeah.
New York Rangers
This is a surprise
Now wait though
Sorry
What I was trying to get to there
With Polak being in 85
Is
Like
Not only is
Lupul
In the lineup
He's also decent
He's Joffrey Lupul
From two years ago
Shouldn't even be on the team
No
And the one thing
The Leafs
Make the
Be a GM mode
Or the franchise mode
Whatever the hell it's called
In NHL 17
A little
Less authentic
Like the Leafs
in real life I mean
like in the preseason
because I'm a defenseman
for a lot of the games
my defense partner
was Stefan Robita
that's not going to happen
I'm sure he loved that
by the way
oh I thought it was funny
oh man
Matt Hunwick
is going to win
the Norris with me
as his partner
I draw the attention
over to him
blast
do you get drafted
or do you just go straight
to creating a playing NHL
I go straight to the Leafs
I will never do the drafted
ever again
why
I got drafted to Florida
now did you play
a season in juniors first
and then you draft it?
I was like,
I'm going to do this
the right way.
Won the Memorial Cup
with the Oshawa General
or was it the
Mississauga Steelheads
at the time?
I don't remember.
And then you get drafted
to Florida.
I got friggin' bit.
And the Panthers were bad
and they continually
made themselves worse.
And Scott Clemonson
is their starter.
Yakim Markstrom
is the backup.
And then the next year,
Markstrom was the starter
and a month in,
they promptly traded him
for Cal Clutterbuck.
Straight up.
That's something the Sim also doesn't take into consideration.
The trades.
Yeah.
Like, did we trade Roby down for Crosby?
Maybe.
Maybe.
It's a video game.
Maybe.
Or injuries.
Maybe injuries is what sunk people in the trade.
And I've said this.
Okay.
That's real world, though, man.
Sometimes there are injuries in the NHL.
If the Leafs on paper are not as good as other teams.
Yeah.
If the Leafs on paper are not as good as other teams,
the season wears on everybody.
the injury bug is undefeated season wears on everybody does the leafs depth work to their
advantage does it give them two extra points in the standings maybe three maybe four how does that
work can i can i just for a second it's it's possible can i stop you for a second i i just
had this this visual of the injury bug being rambo and putting on like a bulletproof vest and be like
Undefeated
Ready
Just standing on top
Of a sea of
Dead
2011 Canucks defensemen
And Mason Raymond's back
Yes
Yes
Oh that poor team
So yeah
So the New York Rangers
They're predicting
Again
Don't take this too
Too seriously
To be out of the playoffs
With 89 points
That's not shocking
See it is to me
Because I think
Henrik Lundqvist
Has one more year
Of being Henrik
Yeah
They're
I think the Islanders
Wild
and Rangers are all kind of in this
category of 50-50.
Partly
because of the strength of the division
they're in, and partly because they're
kind of eh.
All three have goalies who could
steal it for them.
And
goalies who are mortal.
Detroit Red Wings, 87 points
for number 10. Number 11,
the Ottawa Senators, also with 87 points,
only finishing three points out of a playoff spot.
the Buffalo Sabres
I believe it
is that number 11
no
number
12
12 or 13
whatever it doesn't matter
87 points
Buffalo Sabres
after them with
85 points
Boston Bruins
didn't you just say
Buffalo twice
they said Ottawa
okay so sorry
Ottawa 87
Buffalo 85
Boston Bruins
84
wow
and here's the one
the one that I
I still
I still think is
they may not make the playoffs
but don't sleep on the
New Jersey Devils
81
81 points they say
No way
So are they last in the East?
No, there's two more
Carolina, 79 points
Columbus, 76
John Tortorella's
Second Team America
So what this simulation is saying
Is every
Every inter-conference game
Is going to go to the East
The West, like how many
70 and down teams does the West have?
Despite having two fewer teams than the East.
And you had to go way
the far down in the East. Plus you got the Canucks who apparently won't win a game.
Only because everybody's far more even. Because you gotta remember, a lot of the points that are in the
Western Conference are sitting at the top. They're sitting in the top six teams. Well, that's what I'm saying.
Oh, I get what you're saying. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So the cream will rise to the top
in the West, but also, I think the East is gonna win
all the games
based on that
based on that
I'm just saying
interesting
anyway
interesting
fun to go through
who the hell knows
but it'll be fun
to look back at this
and you know what
maybe New Jersey
is terrible
and I'm crazy
but I don't think
New Jersey's terrible
there's a lot of
bubble teams
bubble teams
New Jersey
Minnesota
the Islanders
the Rangers
the Flyers
I'll even throw in there
it's interesting
a full year of
Goss Dispair.
Ghost Bear.
We have What's Up in Liberty Village coming up.
But first.
Also, someone please tweet us on the last day of the season and we can review this.
Yeah, let's do that.
Please tweet us.
I'd love to look at that.
Because we won't remember.
No, we won't.
Jesse, we asked last episode how people found the Steve Dangle podcast.
Oh, I'm excited.
What blew me away about this was the tweets that I got.
I didn't look too hard at the Reddit page because I didn't want to be...
I wanted to be surprised.
Yeah.
But what blew me away was how many people found us through Tumblr and how many people have found us recently.
No one will take my damn advice.
Get on Tumblr, man.
Yeah, it's true.
Get on Tumblr.
It's amazing to me how recent many people of this show are and how many inside jokes people straight up aren't getting.
And I feel bad.
Yeah.
Well, I'm sorry, by the way.
I'm sorry.
I just assume everyone, once you start listening, someone hands you a kit and you just get it all.
We should have a kit.
They hand you a pamphlet.
Okay, that's my next question for next episode
What would be in the Steve Dangle podcast kit
Chapter 1, Steve's pee-pee
A lot of people don't understand what you're talking about
The good old days
And Adam's Melons, that was the thing
The dawn of a Blake era
Or a Jesse era
Jurassic Blake
The Blakening
The Blakening, yes
I don't know
Alright, so how do people find this show?
Oh, sorry, one thing
Or not
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Did I talk about when someone was talking about
there's going to be a huge, terrible Canucks trade
and it's going to be called the Hap-Benning?
Ah, that's pretty good.
Way better than the Blakening.
The Jesse-ing.
The Jessening.
We'll work on it.
All right.
The Shitman-ing.
BJ.
Before Jesse.
Wow.
And then AJ.
Steve's PP BJ.
That will be the name of the chapter.
He's gone.
Do you want to move on to the first story?
Steve Dangle podcast's original hashtag before Jesse.
It's straightforward.
It's a simple question, doctor.
That's the true story.
The hashtag was Steve's pee pee.
I'm going to tell a story here.
We had a meeting.
We were asked by a professional company
if we could change the official hashtag of our thing
So they could work with us
They're like
We're just really uncomfortable
With Steve's pee pee
And we all just kind of went
Right that's fair enough
That's fair enough
Imagine
There's somebody
Who's gone to university
Worked their entire
Their entire life
And then they have to tell
Some idiot on the phone
Do you mind changing
The hashtag of your podcast
You fucking idiot
Can we
Can I throw something out there
That hashtag
Your fault
Also my fault
That was 100% you
You were just like
By the way
the hashtag is Steve's peepee.
And I remember sitting here like,
all right, I guess it is.
There was a reason why.
I think it was we were,
you were,
it was about a stripper story
that you told.
No, I'm pretty sure
you came up with the hashtag
before that story.
Wow, okay, well.
And you were just like,
that's what it is.
How we don't like strip clubs
and how they make us uncomfortable,
which they do.
Yeah, that was episode two,
by the way.
Yeah, anyway.
We've changed it since then.
This is actually from the Reddit.
My favorite memory
from the early days
was when they told their first
Steve's peepee
in Adam's Melons t-shirt.
Or when they sold their first
Right, we sold shirts with that on it
I still have one
Yeah, I've probably got one somewhere too
I ordered one and a few weeks later
They were doing shoutouts on the podcast
For people who bought a shirt
Hearing Ryan from Moncton
Mentioned on the show and knowing it meant
Me brought me so much joy
Hey Ryan, this is your second shoutout buddy
Shoutout Ryan from Moncton
You're fucking spoiled Ryan
We are spoiling you
That's so funny.
What else we got?
I like this one.
This one's from Fox's For Sale on the Reddit.
Australian, recent listener here.
Started about three weeks ago.
Wow.
Only was introduced to hockey in March, watched the playoffs, then started to watch the AIHL.
Sasky said there was an entertaining stories about the AIHL in the SDB episode she was
guested in.
So I subscribed to find that episode.
Good luck.
It was a while ago.
I really loved it.
So I figured I'd listen to the Ben Scrivens interview
And then just kept listening from there
Amazing
Well, if you can organize by the amount of listens
Sasky's still number one
That's amazing
I think our only
On SoundCloud anyway
30 plus thousand listen episode
Huh
That's just SoundCloud
Yeah
That's crazy
The Friedman one
The Elliot one
I think we'll pass it in like a couple weeks
Oh, does that keep going up?
Yeah, they're still at like 28, 29
I think anything
The PK one is around 28
Yeah, PK one too
I remember listening to that in a train in London.
Yes.
It was great.
Fantastic.
This one was from YouTube.
Rebecca said,
my first introduction to Steve was through his Game 5 bat flip video
a little under a year ago.
What?
A baseball video?
How disappointed you must have been.
She's a more baseball fan than a hockey fan,
but she thought it was funny,
checked out more of his videos on YouTube,
and heard about the podcast from the end of the LFR.
Get out of here.
That's pretty neat.
That is cool.
Thank you.
Was it Rachel?
Rebecca.
Rebecca.
not the same
thank you
Rebecca
Rachel
Nate
this is a
Tumblr find
I saw a gif set
about Steve
on Tumblr
he was talking
about how
no one can
just move
Chara
and then I
searched that
video on YouTube
and then started
watching almost
all of his
videos from then
and then a few
months later
I found out
he had a podcast
so I started
listening to this
that's crazy
that is funny
you know
I'll tell you
a pivotal moment
in our show's
early early
development
was when we talked about the Penguins in the playoffs.
That was episode two.
Episode two.
And Steve posted something about it on his Tumblr.
Yeah, and I just put the hashtag or whatever it is on Tumblr.
I just put it on the Pittsburgh Penguins Tumblr.
Yeah.
So if you search anything about the Pittsburgh Penguins, it comes up.
We were flooded with Penguins fans.
And that's why I'm convinced a lot of the people that listen.
We do have a lot of Penguins fans that listen.
I'm convinced that had to be part of it
Because, you know, someone listens, they tell their friend
I think that's cool
Some fanbases listen more than others
I mean, Leafs, obviously
We have some Canucks fans
The Canadian teams, well, I think it's the teams
We talk about the most
And which teams do we talk about? The teams that are really good?
No
And the teams that are really bad
No, no, so like my videos
Grew big in Boston
They have a decent Boston following
They have a decent Penguins following
I think there's a decent Chicago following
And LA
LA
Dude, I got
Backstage passes to Jimmy Kimmel
Because the Kings won the cup
This guy messaged me
And he ended up being the floor producer
That's neat, that's really freaking cool
Standing next to Kerry Washington
I'm like, holy shit
That's crazy, this is crazy
Did you say, hey, sometimes I get free jerseys
You know
I know you're on that terrible show
I know you're on that terrible overacted show
Why is that show terrible?
Tell me why that show is terrible
I've never seen it
I am the president of the United States
The most overacted president on television
No, no, no
My impressions need to be on camera
They need to be on camera
I demand that they be on camera
Jesse's just changing the battery
This is very interesting if you're watching on YouTube
He does it really quick too
I got naked and got clothed there
In that time
They have this one
Fucking character
Named Huck
Boy do I hate that show
Scandal is literally
The worst thing on television
Really?
Scandal is a terrible show
No no no
Scandal is a terrible show
Scandal is not the worst
But what does Huck think of Scandal?
Scandal is a terrible show
They talk about terrible things
Horrible things
On that show
you fucking head case i hate your character you're all how did they find the worst actors
in hollywood and put them on all in the same show it's it is a high-paced soap opera is what it is
the president has been shot five times in the head doctors say he'll survive what
as if the first lady is having a mental breakdown on a balcony and just eating chicken wings for
months on end like okay by the way for all of you like why do you know so much i'm married
there it is yeah i'm married that show stinks ask him about four weddings canada
four weddings no i just wrote a caprice actually watches dash ask me about gypsy sisters teresa
from jersey whatever it was long island medium oh oh no no no no not long island medium the
friggin' the show
where everyone
yells and
puts Italians back
50 years
yeah
um
wait
which show could that be Steve
is it Mob Wives
is it Hell's Lodge of New Jersey
is it Jersey Shore
is it
holy fuck do Italians
take a beating on TV
is it
the family ad
oh yeah
bibbidi bobbidi yeah
hey
you know what
how about we
don't talk about this
on the podcast
and we talk about it
as friends
at my favorite restaurant
Baba Bucci's
holy shit
I love that place
you know what's true
and Italians don't
complain about how
they're portrayed on
television
and I don't know
why sometimes
some of it's true
might be
what are you talking
about Jesse
why are those guys
hating on Italians
over here
they do
they do take the L
a few times
I'm gonna rub my
nose grease all over
you
they're taking the L
a few times
they've taken the L
over a few series
yeah we take the
Anyways, scandal
The president's having a two year affair
With some random woman
Nobody's going to find out
So is Kerry Washington's character a crisis management person?
I don't care
Yeah, that's pretty much how it is
People come to her when they're in trouble
So it's always the president then
Kerry Washington has a soliloquy
Every episode that starts like this
And then by the end of it
She is hellfire and brimstone like Howard Dean
And then of course
We have her father
and we can see
where she got it from
because he starts slow too
and then it's a slow build
and he has this weird
staccato thing
where his head moves
really fast by the end of it
and he's drooling
all over the place.
The most overacted show
on television
is terrible
and yet I see the appeal.
Well, most shows
are terrible.
So anyway,
thanks to the guy
who got me tickets
to the Jimmy Kimmel.
Appreciate that.
So Hamdy,
Hamdy wrote,
I started listening
to the podcast
a few weeks ago.
I found Steve
through that Gatorade video
that had Crosby
and the other athletes in it.
I searched YouTube
and found the podcast.
That's crazy.
They found you
through a commercial,
basically.
Sort of.
Well, no,
that was the video I did
where I got Crosby
to say Phil Kesselt
is a Stanley Cup champion.
Oh, yeah.
That would get me
to listen to a podcast
if you got someone
to do that.
That's cool.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
That's crazy.
Kobe said,
not Kobe Bryant.
How do we know?
A different Kobe?
Do you know?
It's Kobe Pepler.
Boy, maybe that's
Kobe's online name.
Let's not rule out Kobe Bryant
I agree
He accidentally subscribed to this channel
Which is our YouTube channel
So that's why
He figured it out
It was really good
I would never accidentally subscribe to something
And then be like let's give it a chance
I would unsubscribe
That's great
Thank you Mr. Bryant
Thank you Kobe
Yura Kale
One day the 9-2 Nashville LFR
Found its way onto his Twitter feed
A lot of people found us through that episode
Dude, I was on
I think it was ESPN
I was on the radio in Nashville yesterday
And again
Because I have a decent Nashville following
And it's because of that stupid video
Wow
It's because of that stupid
Oh, why do Penguins fans watch?
Well, it's probably those early podcasts
But also
The Phil Kessel era wasted video
has like 140,000 views
or something like that.
Wow.
Oh, yeah.
It's like Gangnam Style,
that video,
the rest of them.
Jenna Marbles.
Yeah, Jenna Marbles.
Or the Apple Pineapple Pen.
Pineapple Apple Pen.
Oh, my God.
Have you seen the Pineapple Apple Pen?
Have you seen that?
No.
I was very confused.
Now we're going to have to do this.
Pineapple Pineapple.
In the meantime,
I'll read this story.
Okay.
Serena wrote,
I felt like I bonded with Steve over
love of Team North America during the World Cup
which was the first live
hockey event I ever watched
that's so nuts
that's cool
these are all really recent
you know what is more surprising though
every time someone walks up to me
and they're like hey man I've been watching since
LFR season 1 I've been watching since season 2
I'm like why
the videos are not the same
they're not close they're not related
do we have it oh it's coming it's coming they used to be real bad you know the you know the
thing about the internet where we currently are is maybe it's it's adam there's it's a there's a
lot of people on our network and it's not the fastest you clearly don't have rome at home
oh i don't think i have it i think it's rome like home yeah so way to go rogers employee all right
um so here i'll i'll play in the song and then i'm going to explain what happened because there's a
lot of people that really biffed on this story and if you don't biffed biffed and there's on to
adam again if you don't if you don't tell the story properly it makes the extent look kind of
racist so check it out okay i'm on adam's mic now okay i see i think japanese writing hold on
okay i don't know if this is gonna pull us off youtube i have a pen i have 54 million views
uh apple pen i have a pen okay i have pineapple
uh pineapple pen apple pen pineapple pen
The best part about that is it's over
So you tapped right at the point that it was over anyway
For anybody who's watching this video on YouTube
Go search up
Pen Pineapple Apple Pen
Double P-A-P
That song we just listened to won't be in there
So we don't get pulled off
So here's the deal
The guy's a comedian, and people don't know that.
So when they're talking about it, they're often like,
Well, this guy, what a goof!
What a g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-goof!
Wow.
Who is this guy?
The point is, he's a-
On Canora Radio!
That-
We just played Platinum!
That guy did that on purpose.
And what's amazing about it is that it took off in Asia,
because everybody else in Asia got it.
People think, like,
Oh, what are those Asians up to again with their Asian stuff?
It's not like that.
No.
Oh, those kooky Japanese.
Yeah.
Well, I just don't understand Harajuku girls.
You know, I heard their technology is 20 years ahead of ours.
That's what I heard, too.
Have you ever seen a video of the Japanese subway?
Did you know there's more than a billion people in China?
Yeah.
Those aren't the same things, Lucille.
Let's just understand that they get humor over there, too, everyone.
And this was a joke.
And they said hey isn't that funny
And so that a bunch of people
A bunch of Japanese people
Started to make videos of their own
With that song and like do weird stuff
During that song
And they went viral as well
And then it made it's way over here
To where we didn't do our research
And told the story improperly
The guy is just a funny dude
Remember a while back when I tried to be
Like a hacky
Shock jock sports guy
Do it again
Do it
Do it again
Do it again
Let me tell you who's going to do it again
The Pittsburgh Penguins
What team can hold a candle to the Pittsburgh Penguins
How do we talk about winning a trade
You get the best player
Well guess what
The Penguins have the best player in the world
They don't just win trades
They win the game
They got Phil Kessel too
Where are all the Toronto media at
Hating on Phil Kessel
He's their second best player
Tied with Malkin and Letang
they got two starting
goaltenders
they can trade those
for another Sidney Crosby
they're going to win
the cup again
mark it
see I could never do that
I could never work myself
into that much of a frenzy
it's easy to do that
because you just
talk bullshit
I don't know if I could man
you just
there's nothing of substance
coming out of my head there
no
you said nothing
I said nothing
so
if I wanted to make
if I wanted a viral video
with millions of views
yeah I could probably
pull that off
you don't want that though
you just be a schmuck
yeah
just be
just goof around
I'll give that guy credit man
54 million views
That's a lot of money
Avocado rock
And I just dance around
With fucking
An avocado on a rock
Now you have to
Yeah in a speedo
No no
Now you have to
Get your next LFR
Can you do an avocado
At the end
Just put it in
As like a
You know like a secret song
On an album
Can you do an avocado rap
Rock to that
With that music
Can you please do that
I think
No
Avocado rock
You know what would be great
Please do it
Avocado rock
And also random interviews
You just walk up to someone young in Dundas Square
And here's all you do
You just go, holy shit
And you see their response
Have you heard?
Have you fucking heard?
What's your opinion on the sponges?
It's good
How many sponges?
You just talk nonsense
That's all it is, that's all you need
Prank videos
Watch me prank this person
by going up to them and punching them in the face.
Yeah.
Prank.
Prank.
Which, by the way,
current prank videos...
All fake, guys.
Well, yeah, first of all, they're all fake.
Second of all, if they were real,
they're all a Chappelle Show sketch from 2003
called Zapped,
where he was talking about punked.
Or no, no, no, it's the...
Oh, yeah, you've been zapped!
And they, like, pretend like your kid's dead
or something like that.
but also there was
a Christopher Walken
SNL sketch
that was very similar
where he's just like
oh yeah
I cut your brakes
what a funny prank
my favorite was
when those guys
pranked their friend
and they kidnapped him
and made him seem like
he was gonna die
and they held a fake gun
to his head
and the guy's like crying
and then people
lost their minds
and they had to come out
and actually say
sorry guys
all of our videos are fake
well duh
and like
why do people
But we already made the money
and collected the revenue
and it's really hard
to give it back.
It would be super easy
to like donate it
but we're not gonna do that
on account of
why would we?
We got a production cost.
And on account of
my bank account
is way fatter than it was
before this video came out.
So we're sorry
but we're keeping the money.
Prank!
Hey,
do we have any more stories
or live bitch?
What are we doing?
We can do live bitch.
Alright,
What's up in Lividge?
So the best thing on the Lividge page today
is the post from NARCity.
Oh!
Which is...
NARCity, by the way,
is a listicle's website.
Worst website ever.
I was thinking about starting a feature on this show
which was listicle of the day.
And as in like 10 things about blank
and you won't believe number 7, listicle.
Top 10 free agents the Leafs should target next year.
That is NARCity.
That's what they do.
Okay.
That's how they make their money.
And you know what?
all the power to them because they're probably making money
what is this who would read this bullshit
second article on
Narcity's homepage nine Toronto
girls you've definitely matched with on
tinder
okay
can I just let him freak out
about that for just a second one
thing I saw
was
this summer from that same website
was
10 things only Toronto girls
do and it was like
go to the store
walk down the street
get food out of the club
with one of them
get in a cab
and cancel your Uber
because you just can't wait
just that kind of crap
and you're like
everybody
everywhere does that
put our heels to work
because
see the CN Tower
from your house
is too boring
so for some reason
you gotta be like
aw
so relatable quotes
oh my god
can't wait to put
white font over this
And make it a thing that goes crazy on Facebook
So nine girls you've definitely matched with on Tinder
So that's the
I'm not clicking it
No, Toronto girls
Oh, Toronto girls
Nine Toronto girls you've definitely matched with on Tinder
Well, they're all freaking hipsters
I mean, let's be honest
Yeah
Someone with
There's something about a cardigan
There's something about thick frame glasses
Yeah
There's
Donate on cardigans
I'm not, I'm just saying
Something about the fairy
Man, hipsters love the fairy
They love going to the islands
The girl who wants you to go to Centerville.
Yeah.
No, no, no.
You shouldn't go to Centerville.
That's where the unwashed masses go.
You go to Ward's Beach.
By the way, Ward's Beach is the place to go.
The sporty girl who wants to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
I think I found a better one.
Let's just see how many stereotypes we can perpetrate.
On the second page, they have 41 real things all Jack Astor's servers know to be true.
Get
The fuck
Out of this studio
How
On earth
By the way
How niche is that bullshit
Literally
It's because
Buzz
It's like Simpsons did it
Buzzfeed did it
They like
Buzzfeed has to get
Look at
Look at Buzzfeed lists now
Compared to what they used to be
They have to get so
Specific
With the
You know what's fucked up
How do they come up with a new idea anymore
They produce so much content.
Here's what's fucked up.
It's like all the rich, crazy people who have like trillions of dollars and they live in
the shadows and all conspiracy theorists think they exist and they actually do.
It's like they all watched like a season of The Simpsons 20 years ago and they went, that's
how we should make the world.
That's how we should make the world.
We're going to make it like that.
Yep.
You think it's a cartoon?
Bullshit.
We're going to make it that way.
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
Oh my God.
Now, here's the creepy thing about that.
So, I used to be the managing editor for theleafsnation.com.
And for some stupid reason, I put that on my Facebook because Facebook wants to know everything about you.
And a few years ago, I was like, here you go, Facebook.
Here's my blood type, too.
Here's a vial on it.
Do you have that you're married on there to Mrs. Dangle?
You bet I do.
Wow.
That's how long you guys have been together because your relationship status is actually showing.
You know what's fucked up?
The second you tell the internet in any way, shape, or form, hey, I'm married, you know
what you start getting ads for?
Ashley Madison.
Wow.
Yep.
I've never gotten an Ashley Madison ad.
The second.
Wow.
The second I changed my status to married, Ashley Madison.
Interesting.
The second, which is incredibly fucked up.
Anyway.
Well, there's no, we've already apparently proven that there's no women on that site
anyway.
Oh, yeah.
So sad.
So sad.
Pretty sad.
Um, so I put that I was managing editor of theleastnation.com.
So now I get all the, oh, and I've sold shirts on Teespring.
And so Facebook was like, I'm going to use this information to every day.
I see an ad for, I'm a managing editor and a badass on a shirt.
Who the fuck would wear that?
I am a host for Kiss 92.5 and a badass.
Badass.
I'm a producer and a badass.
Yeah, the customized shirts.
Oh, my God.
Yes, and it mocks it up for you.
I've seen that.
You know who saw that listicle that Jesse just mentioned?
Everyone who works at a Jack Astor's.
Everyone.
And I bet they went through it, too.
Or if they say server anywhere, you saw that listicle.
It's incredibly niche and creepy.
Creepy.
That's too creepy.
Number 19.
after you bring them mayo
they also ask for a side of ranch
you know what I'm going to text Caprice right now
I want to find out
hang on
honey
your co-workers are actually pretty awesome
okay
okay
you know what
I'm not into people
losing their jobs but I think
I would I want to just walk up to their office or their table it's probably you know it's a
share space it's one of those and everyone's playing hacky sack in the corner I want to just
be like hey and just like hold up a paper copy of that article and be like what are you doing
and then they answer it and then I just keep saying what are you doing and I just keep
fucking with them like it's goodwill hunting until they just break down cry and quit
because what are you doing that person likely has a degree that person likely has like a 30 plus
thousand dollar education yep oh yeah the author's name is printed there is it no let's not let's not
start a social media witch hunt yeah you're right and they threw the beer it's their job it's their
job they're being told the right articles that way um okay so this is a caprice who worked at
jack asters when you were a server at jack asters and people asked you uh and you delivered a side
of mayo would you then would they then ask for a side of ranch asking this is a serious question
so she worked at jack asters yeah i wonder if this has come across her timeline did she put
it on her facebook right she put on her wall hey honey look at this awesome list oh all the dog
shit. All the...
Facebook knows
too much about me, man. Yeah, of course
they do. But like, basic
things that I didn't think was giving them too much
information. Like, I have a dog, but
apparently it is. What else do we need?
Oh, so, are we done
with the Jack Astor's list? I mean, we don't have to be.
What do you...
I need to know... I just love that
your co-workers are pretty good people.
No, pretty awesome. Pretty awesome.
It turns out your co-workers are pretty awesome.
I just imagine a bunch of people at Jack Astor's on their phone looking this going, yeah, you
are awesome.
And then just patting each other on the butt and putting each other like, and then going
back to work.
Like what?
How many of those 41 things could you just change the title of the article to?
If you work at a car dealership, this happens to you.
If you work at X.
If you work at a podcast.
Yeah.
Your coworkers are pretty awesome.
I get pissed off when Adam brings me mayo and not ranch.
Happens all the fucking time.
Caprice
I'm gonna post the answer
she's gonna
like what a dumb question
to ask my fiance
I'm at work Adam
oh fuck
oh
when did we get here
when did we get here
as a society
or
yeah
oh we were always here
we just haven't had the platform
it used to be
I think people used to write
stupid shit like that
I think people have always
written stupid shit like that
the difference is
no one read it
yeah
because there's no way
to print it mass
there's no mass production of it
Yeah, but things that don't get read die.
Who's clicking this shit?
Yeah.
Who's doing it?
Yeah.
They're spreading the dumb.
The last item on the list is sometimes serving can actually be the worst, but working at
Jack Astor's makes it a little better.
So Jack Astor's paid for that.
Yeah, Jack Astor's paid for this post.
Because that's how BuzzFeed.
The title, it's advertising.
Jack Astor's, Jack Astor's, Jack Astor's.
How many times has Jack Astor's written in that article?
And it's in the title.
And if it's in the title and it pops up on my Facebook, that means you just shoved Jack Astor's into my Facebook.
You could put Canadian Army there.
The best part about working at Jack Astor's is supporting the Canadian Army.
Even at Vyosh.
The best part of working at Jack Astor's is when you serve a table of 20 Canadian Armed Forces.
Join the Navy.
So there you go. That's what's up in Lividge today.
Well, what's actually up was the list from NARCITY,
which is
16 reasons why
Liberty Village
is the absolute
best place to live
in Toronto
now as the king
of Liberty Village
Jesse
Jesse Blake
King of Liberty Village
who I just named in that
now I'm open
with any of this
I'm open
okay
I'm open
yeah we should go
through the list
number one
it's full of young people
is that a good thing
I
well sure
I'll allow it
I suppose
it's full of young people
it's four schools
I mean
Yeah so so are suburbs
Kids are young people
Yeah
No it's
I get where they're going
With that
I'll allow it
Two
It's also full of
Super cute dogs
That's true
That is true
Yeah
I'll allow it
I think you guys are
The young people
Per capita
And the dogs per capita
Oh
High in Libvidge
I bet there's
Almost as many dogs
As there are people
In Liberty Village
I'm uh
I'm
Almost as many
French bulldogs
As people
Everybody is a French bulldog
I'm a dink with a dog, dink, double income, no kids, with a dog.
I should move to Libvidge.
That's what I'm thinking.
It's the perfect location.
Stop.
Okay.
So is Yonge and Dundas.
Some might say it's a little too far west, but we disagree.
It's conveniently located just south of...
Some say, but we don't think so.
That sentence was...
That sentence was literally...
It's close to everything.
It's not, but it is.
We're at number three, and fuck you already.
Oh, my God.
To the author.
Oh, my God.
What the hell, man?
My voice is just wearing out.
When did this happen?
When did it happen?
It has easy access to the rest of Toronto.
That's number three.
Which you already acknowledge is wrong.
Well, actually.
Yeah.
And actually, does it have easy access?
Because the location is.
No.
I don't think it does at all.
Getting out of Liberty is the worst thing on Earth.
There's one fucking street.
There's one bus.
There's one street in an hour.
The slogan of Toronto should be,
do you live on the subway line?
Nope, we'll get fucked.
Yeah, literally.
Nope, we don't care about you.
Prices along the subway line are like a hundred grand higher.
I'm surprised it's only that.
Like, it's nuts.
Now that changes every month.
That was just one person who told me that.
If you send me an article and I'm wrong, fine.
People talk about Leslieville.
I've been to Leslieville
I've lived in Toronto
Since 1988
And I've probably been to Leslieville
Maybe two or three times
Because
How do you get to Leslieville?
If you don't drive
You walk from my house
Yeah
And how long does that take?
10-15 minutes
No
To walk?
More than that
Yeah
It's not far
But then why would I go?
It's not as far as you think
It's actually
Leslieville's actually really cool
Queen East
Is the new Queen West
Oh
And I'm telling you this
That's a very Toronto thing to eat this day.
I know.
That's very Toronto.
I get that.
You should have told me that in a hookah bar.
You know what we're going to do?
Oh, my God.
Because it used to be just the opera house there.
There's actually some really great stuff.
We're going to go there sometime, and you're going to have an amazing time, and you're
going to need some delicious food, and you're going to be like, you know what?
Great.
That'll be the fourth time.
Adam's right.
Some say Leslieville's too far east, but I disagree.
Is that number five?
But I provided proof, goddammit.
Okay?
Anyway.
Number five was it has no shortage of great food spots, which is kind of true.
I mean, that's Toronto.
Yeah, there's a lot of restaurants.
We've brought this up.
I'll put Toronto as a food city up against anybody.
Anybody in the world.
Its proximity to the Molson Amphitheater means summer is just a little bit more fun.
No, you can't say it's close to stuff and then two things later be like, it's close to this specific thing.
Hold on a second.
Repeat that one more time.
Its proximity to the Molson Amphitheater means your summer is just a little bit more fun.
But I could just rewrite this and be like
If you live near the Air Canada Center
If you live near the Rogers Center
If you live near Rico Coliseum
Which you do if you live in Livvage
Very close
I tell you what
I'm in Oshawa and I live close to the GM Center
So if you want to see that
To be fair
If you want to see a bunch of C-list comedians
If you want to see Larry the Cable Guy
And that dude with the puppets
you come
what the hell is his name
oh Jeff Dunham
Jeff Dunham
if you want to see
Larry the Cable Guy
and Jeff Dunham
you come to the GM Center
it has great views
of the CN Tower
which is
that's okay
the Danforth
that is miles and miles
it's relatively quiet
compared to a lot of the city
which is very true
that is true
yeah
well
we have three valid points so far
unless you're right next
to the Go Trains
the Go Train tracks
which are
we're back at two
like five
crumple crumple throw
All of the condos are right along the train tracks, and you can hear them all night.
And we're back at two.
But that's why it's quiet for everybody else, because those condos block the train.
Exactly.
They're the soundproofing.
It has amazing hidden murals, which all of them have.
You know, on the list of things that I care about, hidden murals is near the bottom.
I think public access to toilets would go above that.
If you ask a real estate agent, how are the murals around here?
It should be legal for them to punch you in the throat.
You know what?
I bet real estate agents get asked shit like that all the time.
Can you imagine being a real estate agent?
People are like, oh, I want to be a real estate agent.
I'm like, why?
Oh, my God.
People and the shit they want in houses.
And if they walk in and the color of the wall is not the color they want, they'll walk out.
How many antique shops are nearby?
I bet it's been posed.
I bet there's realtors listening right now who are going, oh, my God, the stories I have for you.
I bet.
I bet money on it.
How many bike shops?
Oh, keep going.
There are plenty of patios to soak in the sunshine.
That is the entirety of Toronto?
Toronto is...
That is Canada.
Canada loves patios because it's cold here a lot.
And then when it's not, we celebrate.
You know what's really cool?
When the Lightning are in the playoffs,
they have a big patio party outside of the arena.
Because patios are great.
Universal knowledge.
Who doesn't love a good patio?
It's super, super clean.
Which is very true.
Parts are super duper clean.
No, I think...
Liberty Village is like any part of Toronto
where you go, gosh, this is nice, and then you walk
one block and you go, what happened?
And then you walk another block and you're like,
boy, that's nice.
There are no tourists.
It's because there's nothing
to fucking do.
The only thing to do in Liberty Village is...
Because that's where people live.
Yeah, it's to live.
That's the problem with Toronto, too, is that
when you come here, people ask, what should I do?
Well unless you want to
Walk for half an hour
I don't know
Here's the subway line
Do that or don't
Yeah
That's it
Like what is
Do you
Tickets to the game
We have a beach
You come to Toronto
So does everyone
So does every restaurant
That you eat
Right
Yeah
Like New York
There's shit to do
You want to get fat
You come here
Yeah
It'll be real easy
Yeah we can fatten you up
Real quick
Real easy
Take it from me
Thirteen
There's an adorable
Farmer's market
On the weekend
That's the most
Toronto thing
I've ever heard
Okay, move to Curtis, Ontario.
That's a necessity.
Farmer's market on the weekend has to happen.
Or people don't eat.
Want to check out some farmer's markets?
Move near a farm.
Hey, listen, man.
I'm going to have...
Yo, I cannot wait to get so fat off pumpkin pie.
Fresh pumpkin pie.
St. Lawrence Market is where it's at.
St. Lawrence, yeah, which is literally...
It's where Toronto people go to buy vegetables.
Our farmer's market is in a parking lot across from the Go Station and a Tim Hortons and a Bulk Bar.
Have you been?
I've walked past it.
I've never purchased anything.
All right, so we have two good reasons.
What else?
Three more.
King of Lividge, Jesse Blake.
Let's see if we get up to five.
The Duke of Lividge.
Tons of parking in Liberty Village.
Well, which is helpful if you needed to go there and you do not.
I don't think you need to park to go anywhere in Liberty Village.
Imagine, the Air Canada Center.
There's tons of parking.
That would be super helpful.
Uh-huh.
There's not.
There used to be.
Used to be.
I parked there the other day.
It was 30 bucks.
Literally the only reason I go to Liberty Village is to see Jesse.
Hey!
Yeah, well, yeah.
To see Jesse, Hockey Night in Cinema, end of list.
Yeah, Marley's Hockey Night in Cinema.
Marley's don't count.
Well, because we go to Jesse's house and play NHL.
Oh.
Which, by the way, we're doing.
Jesse, we're Jesse.
It's still just a pit stop, then.
So it's one and a half times.
One and a half reasons
Two more
It's close to King Street when you want to get out
Stop saying it's close to specific shit
You already threw that away
You already threw that away
It's close to shit
Two things later it's close to this shit
Two things later it's close to this shit as well
Some people would say
It's got good access to King Street
Others disagree
Others don't want to
freeze their balls off waiting for a streetcar
that comes every 45 minutes.
You know, I thought this podcast was going to end a good
20 minutes ago, but I feel like we need to keep going.
Guess what? I got shit to complain about, so
no. No.
No. I'm not complaining about that, I'm just saying.
Jesse, what else we got?
Last thing on the list! Alright, why is it
great to live in liberty? Let's get up to three!
You literally never
need to leave if you don't want to.
That's
a horrible reason to move somewhere.
No, it's good.
Okay, but that could be anywhere.
I wouldn't leave my house if I didn't have to work and eat.
Scarborough is just full of starving people because there's nowhere to eat.
Scarborough people just walk the streets and collapse and die because there's nowhere to eat.
There's no...
What farmer's market do you know of in Scarborough?
Oh, God.
There isn't one you couldn't possibly survive there.
The streets are littered with bodies.
That is just so
That is such a
A ridiculous statement to make
There's not even a word beyond
I wish there was a word above ridiculous
Redonkulous
Even that's been overused
I want a word that is above that
Preposterous
There you go
There's no reason to leave unless you have to
Like
Guys, there's no reason to leave this podcast
Unless I have to
Like, to physically leave
There's no reason for us to stop doing this podcast
This particular episode
Unless we have to
Here's the thing, we fucking have to
Because we got other shit to do
In North York, there's no bathrooms
People just pee and poop on the sidewalk
Or in their own apartment
Because they have to leave
Jesse's laughing so hard he's crying right now
It stops
It stops crying
There's nowhere to eat in Scarborough
Or North York
Anywhere else you just collapse and die
Okay, so I said
I said to Caprice
When you were a server at Jack Astor's
And people asked you for
And you delivered a side of mayo
Would they then ask you for a side of ranch?
This is a serious question
Her response is
Huh?
Question mark
Oh, sorry
In wrong inflection
Huh?
Huh?
Yeah, as if to say
I'm at work
Which is not Jack Astor's, by the way
Leave me alone
Ugh
Anyways that's what's up
In Levege
You know how many
Confused people there are
Because they don't have
A jackass or
Is that a Canadian thing
Yeah
I think so
Yeah
That's like the
Naughtiest thing about Canada
By the way
We have
We have a restaurant
That's
It sounds like
Jackass
She's gonna kill me
Because she is at work
The sign blinks
So that it looks like
It just says jackass
You're right
She is at work
And I am bothering her
Over text message
To find out whether
Ranch and mayo
are mutually exclusive or inclusive.
Now, should we get into the press conference?
The Presser S.D.P.
The Steve Dangle Press Conference.
Oh my God, sure.
How long is this episode?
It's long.
Let's keep the questions shorter.
We also got that thing behind you.
We got three questions.
First, we got to help Lauren out with her project.
Okay.
So, this question is a little irrelevant,
but I need help with the project.
I'm doing a project for school about digital initiatives,
And I'm doing podcasts as part of it
I'm doing podcasts as part of it
And I was wondering if there was any way
You guys could explain how the podcast
Came to be so I can use it as a
Soundbite for my presentation
We can do that right now
I'll count down and you guys are going to explain how the podcast came to be
And Lauren is going to clip it
And insert it into her presentation
In 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
If you can believe it
The podcast
Was initially thought of
In a bar
without Steve present
I was talking to our original producer
Chris and I said
we were talking about radio
and we thought it was crazy that
Steve wasn't on the radio
we thought how come
honestly it's what I thought
obviously I'm biased I'm his friend
and I said to Chris
would you do a podcast
with me
and Steve and I'll host
and we were talking about how Steve had tried
the podcast thing before, but Steve always had to
host it, and that's not what
Steve should be doing. I'm not a great host. No. That's what I
discovered. No, no, that's not it at all. It's just that
you don't need to host. You need to be the guy
that talks about the depth of knowledge
in the show. And I said,
I can host, you can produce, and
there we go. Voila. Power trio.
Easy. And that's
and then so we went to, we met at a
Jack Astor's. Believe it or
not. On Front Street, and we said
alright, and Steve and Chris barely
knew each other at this point, and
And we said, okay, so are we going to do this?
How are we going to do this?
And we started at two episodes a week because it was the end of the playoffs.
The Leafs had been eliminated, I think, a week and a half before.
And we were right into the conference finals, I think, at that point.
Yeah, the big one we were talking about was Boston was running Pittsburgh's show in the third round.
Yes, and that's how it all started.
So it was basically just that.
And then for some reason that first night, we got over 1,000 listens, and we didn't expect that.
Yeah, so just do it.
Just do it to at least get the experience.
Now, the one leg up that we had was a built-in listenership because of the videos.
But, I mean, if the podcast sucked, no one was going to listen.
And I think part of the reason more people listen now is we're getting better.
So the reason we got better is because we've been doing it for a while.
And the only way to do it for a while is to do it at all.
So, just do it.
As a side, it's made me a far better host in everything else that I do.
Yes, and also it's made Adam a better host.
So, there you go.
That's how it started.
Does that make sense?
Does that anything sound?
Yeah.
You're welcome, Lauren.
We hope you get an A.
We didn't even have an intro in the first, I think, 10, 20 episodes.
Like, it was a while before we kind of got to that.
And then...
And some production.
Yeah, which was fine.
Producer Chris did his goddamn job.
If you've been listening for a while, you know what that means.
Caprice, by the way, has gotten back to me about the, she said, I said, it's, I know
this is stupid, but from your recollection, do mayo and ranch normally go together in
an order?
And she said, no, not that I've ever seen while serving.
And I've served in many restaurants, including Jack Astor's.
Okay.
All right.
So you're wrong, Narcity.
Yeah.
You're wrong.
Do you mean to tell me they were stretching for bullshit?
they had to come up
with 41 reasons
and they weren't
all legitimate
who read the whole thing
I did
that article
is at least
41 lines long
that's too many lines
you know
that's too many lines
you know
you know
it's too many lines
in that headline
opening the
the
the Microsoft Word
so
document
one more question
and then we gotta get to
the present
yes
we got a very cool present
so
I'm excited
astromaster13 writes
if a zombie outbreak
starts in Vegas
does it stay in Vegas
that's the funniest
question we've had
since
who's your hottest
first degree relative
it's the best question
since
synchronized swimming
if one of them died?
What was the secret?
Do they all have to die?
Do they all have to die?
Jesse's crying.
That is a great question.
Now, I think it would stay in Vegas on account.
I remember being in Vegas
and just looking off into the distance
and just going,
okay, how far out would I have to walk
before I'd be totally fucked?
It wouldn't be that far.
It's a desert.
It's 100 degrees Fahrenheit at midnight.
Put it this way.
We'd want it to happen there
of any of the North American cities.
Or like somewhere
Super duper far north
Because then they would all just freeze
Or Buffalo
Or Buffalo because
Because they deserve it
If it happened in Buffalo it would take us like
A good year before anybody noticed
Or care sorry I'm just kidding
Everyone from Buffalo
Fuck you
The car commercials would sure stay the same
How would they cross the border
Checkmate humans
Fuck you zombies
how would they cross the border
they don't have passports
checkmate
alright
so we gotta talk about
something that arrived
in the mail
that we were not expecting
usually I get the heads up
from people
I don't know why
this arrived
but it did
and what is funny
I was looking at it
they said
you know Adam Wild
do you have a package
they sent me an email
got it
I hand out your address
by the way
to a few people on DMs
oh do you
well it's not my
it's technically our work address
yeah but I give them
your name and our work address
so I was like
I'm looking at the
I'm looking at the package on this
and I'm like, what kind of
this is a name. There are names
and this one is a name. Now, I want you
to, Steve, there's a postcard
included in this package.
What does that look like to you? What's that postcard
look like to you? It looks like Nevada
or something. Yeah, mountains.
It's a mountainous range.
Oh, is this
potentially Europe?
Potentially. Okay.
And I look at the name and I'm definitely going to get this
name wrong so i apologize it is not out of disrespect your writing is is is quite beautiful
but it's also quite small so it's hard to read tunish naya amar saya oh this is from yeah i
gave her your address oh man it's from like crazy far east damn it oh what's it called you ready
yes read it mongolia mongolia we have a listener in mongolia coolest thing ever who is a pens fan
Because, yeah.
She said, to Steve, Adam, and Jesse, thanks for making my transition to becoming a hockey fan much more entertaining and fun.
I'd already chosen the Pens as my team because black and gold, awesome penguins, blah, blah, blah.
Because, yeah, so black and gold and Malkin's Great Escape Story.
I think it's Malkin's Great Escape Story.
Yeah, so he defected from Russia, by the way, less than a decade ago.
Yes.
Which is hilarious that you still have to defect from Russia
But over the past two years
I have slowly started to adopt
The Leafs as my second team
Because you guys are
Doing such an amazing job at being fans
You know what, it is hard work to be a fan of this team
First of all, congratulations
Second of all, we're sorry
So, go Leafs, thanks for Kessel
We'll keep them
So then
When I opened up the package
we've got a couple
traditional Mongolian games in here
which is cool
now I'm going to get to the
there's another part to this so bear with me on this
there's a reason we bring this up
now these are for Jesse and I
and she actually, one of them is the
divination of ankle
so it's basically, this is a way
to tell your future
it's a traditional Mongolian thing
so I can't pronounce this
so the matersawa
I don't know.
Anyway, I can't do that one.
We forgive you.
There's that.
Kuala Lumpur, France.
Anyway, there's some amazing games,
but one thing,
the reason that this was sent
is really important
because what do we always make fun of Steve for?
Being dumb.
What do we always make fun of Steve for?
Recently.
Forget things.
I get free shit.
When you don't get free shit,
what do you do?
Pay for things.
What do you pay for?
I'm sorry.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, toys.
Specifically?
Hockey figures.
Dolls.
Dolls.
They're not...
Dolls are figures!
Oh, awesome!
Oh, awesome!
Oh, look at that!
Now, go through, because...
God, did she make this?
Now, hey, now.
Where the hell did she get this?
Okay, so...
What are these called?
Matryoshka?
Matryoshka, yeah.
So, the Matryoshka.
Now I want you to open this up
I want you to open this up
Because this
The second part of the letter
Actually plays into this
It's a Matryoshka doll
So those are the dolls
By the way
If you're not watching
They pop open
And reveal another doll
Oh that's so cool
So it goes from
Kadri to a smaller
To Parenteau
To smaller Parenteau
Who's inside Parenteau
Gross
Who's
Leo Komarov
Uncle Leo
Uncle Leo
Oh that's so
Keep going
It's fucking cool!
Lil' Tylee Boseman!
And it sounds like,
chicka-chicka-chicka-chicka,
there's something else in here!
Oh my goodness.
Oh, oh.
I gotta,
I'm so flustered.
Don't worry, you don't have to worry about it.
I'm so excited.
I'm so flustered.
I'm being very dainty with it.
I don't want to break it, Adam.
I have stupid, clumsy fingers.
Oh, and we got a really little one inside.
It's a wee little
Rhymer
It's a little James
And it didn't even cost me 60 bucks
You're the best
Best gift ever
Best Christmas ever
Okay so what is it how do you pronounce it again
Oh and there's a little message in there
See this is a
Rhymer that you can keep
Oh
And she says
Because he's not
She said, so the Matryoshka with Reimer is obviously for Steve,
for your continued pain, and Reimer was, I'm sorry,
so your continued pain over Reimer was just too touching.
Over Reimer.
Reimer.
Reimer.
But I haven't left Adam and Jesse out of the free stuff.
There are two traditional toys from Mongolia in there.
to go along with Steve's new doll.
No semantics here.
No semantics here.
This is a doll.
She says this.
No semantics here.
One is a puzzle,
and the other is a betting,
I think is what it's...
Oh, is a betting slash predictive game
kind of like a Magic 8-Ball.
Hope it reaches you guys in time
for the start of the season.
Well, it did.
Maybe see how accurate it is.
I want to bet, I bet that it's more accurate than I am.
That's for sure.
So that is officially the craziest place we have ever received mail from.
And by the way, I don't think there are many outlets, media outlets or entertainment outlets
that receive mail at all anymore.
I am astounded by the amount of mail.
I love it.
That we've reached, that we've received.
I love it.
Astounded.
You know, we heard from the UK last week.
We've had mail from since we started this show and honestly, it is mind blowing.
So thank you so much.
Thank you
Remember I said just a couple podcasts ago
When was the last time you received a gift
That you were genuinely surprised by
Here's one
Look at my face
Her name one more time
Oh man you're going to have to help
I'm sorry I apologize
I think that's how you pronounce it
Let me see
Yeah it's right there
From
Yeah Adam said it
The way I would
Yeah
I'm gonna call you
Too low
The box says
Mongol post
And that is the coolest thing
I've ever seen
That's fucking nuts
Yeah
And what's amazing
Is how beautifully
Written the card is too
Like
I'm blown away
By how well
How great the English is
Europeans
And people from Asia
Like just
Make me feel like
An idiot
For like
I don't know
A Mongolian word
apparently it's a very tough language
how did she get that made
I think she might have made it
see this thing
that's what I want to know
because she tweets you right
she tweets you
yeah
it's been a little while
that's my question
when you see this on Instagram
you're going to be blown away by it too
did she make it
because she didn't say that she made it
oh she said
she said
yeah I remember this
the reason I was like
oh yeah
because
this was like two months ago
or something she asked for it
because
apparently
if you ship something
from Mongolia
it takes a while
oh god
oh my god
this was so cool
this was a day maker
yesterday
and we were so excited
to bring this up
made in Russia
it says on the bottom
wow
so I guess
it was made in Russia
now Jesse yesterday
said to me
he's like
that is definitely
not Leafs official
merchandise
but they did
a damn good job
oh that's so
effing cool
oh my god
that's so cool
I can't get over it
I can't get over it
so cool
so anyway
we're gonna wrap it with that
everybody thanks so much
for listening
we'll be back next Tuesday
of course
we'll see how
the Jays do
go Jays
to all of our Texas fans
and we know you're out there
we love you
but we're going to war
okay
we're going to war right now
what's the score of the series
when we come back to the podcast
well we'll have
so that'll be Tuesday
how many games
three games
no three games
four
Sunday
potentially
yeah four games
if we make it though
Thursday
Friday
Sunday
Monday
what's your score
two two
I think it's two two
it's gonna go five
4-0 guys
3-0
and it's a best of 5
oh 3-0
yeah
series is done boys
so you
who do you think wins
Toronto
easily
easily
over the Rangers
3-1 or 3-0
why do you think so
not pitching is too good
we're taking this
easily
wow
you think
Estrada
Jesse Smith
a slightly busted up
Marco Estrada
is that much better
than Cole Hamels
um
we have Aaron Sanchez
but
but
the first matchup
is Estrada
Cole Hamels
our hitting
will take care of the games
when our pitching
isn't so good
because it's gotta
step up eventually
well there's a great way
to hang your hopes
and I think
this is the time
alright well
I'm dead ass serious
dead ass
it's gonna be
a very interesting series
hey thanks so much
for listening
we will be back
like I said
on Tuesday
with a series
potentially swept
but definitely
probably tied
or 3-1
very excited about that
done
in the meantime
in the meantime
we'll be walking around
throwing beers at people
because that's what
Torontonians do
babies only
babies only
yes
because they shouldn't
be at the games
I'm gonna cherish
this Matryoshka forever
if I don't throw it
at a baby
