Panago Pizza presents SSDPP, the Steve Dangle Podcast, with your hosts, Steve Dangle, Adam
Wilde, and Jesse Blake.
Let's go!
Okay, so, this is, believe it or not, even though we've only had a podcast for six and
a half years of it, Top Podcast Moments of the 2010s, in which the show was birthed,
in which we invited Jesse onto the show about 18 months in, and we became the threesome
that we are today and
I want to know, what were your top three
moments from this decade, starting with Jesse Blake
Jerome McGinley being forced
into retirement
you're a piece of shit
I forgot about that
who's a piece of shit, him or me
that's my number three moment because
not because of the factual
information of Jerome McGinley being forced
into retirement, which is factual
but because of the setup
Never before recording a podcast did Adam come with me and just go,
hey, I got something today, just go with me.
That's all I said.
And Adam had something, and boy, was it fire.
And it was Jerome McGinley being forced into retirement.
And did that get you riled up, Stephen?
Yes, it did.
Jerome McGinley was my favorite ever gone leaf.
How dare you.
Number three, Stephen.
Number three.
I'm going to stick with the theme, and you're going to see this by the end of my list.
Adam's importance to this show
And how much I love surprises
Surprises last
Now this one wasn't Adam
The next two are
But I was surprised
With what I think is
One of the best episodes we've ever had
Start to finish
When CJ came in here in April
And just told us everything
That was the
We should have just called that burn it down
Burn it down
like listen to that episode and tell me Babcock shouldn't have been fired right then and there
come on and everything that CJ said what it was one of the I know we have a good guess when I
forget I'm on the show yeah yeah and I forgot I I was sitting right next to him and it was I was a
student the entire time so to me like it wasn't necessarily a moment but to me it is one of the
Must listen to episodes we've ever had
Fair enough
Mine is, number three is
Bella Hadid is gonna get it
This is a 12 minute clip
And by the way, we're gonna include all these
We're gonna include links to these
And actually, we'll edit it all together
So you'll be able to watch it
Bella Hadid
And a little special shout out to Jesse
Nah
Because the title of this
Of this one clip
And it's in our rants and discussions thing on YouTube
And you can check it out
Is Bella Hadid says
Quote, homeboy will like get it
And then he unquote and then he finishes off with is she correct?
It's so bad I watched it again, and it's so it's homeboys gonna get it and it takes a little spin
Yeah, and it takes five minutes to get through the first 20 seconds
Because he's like, ah, no, stop.
And then we have to keep going.
It's a one-minute video.
I think it's a 12-minute clip.
So much fun.
Number two.
Number two.
Our good friend Steve Dangle decided to come with prep for the show.
Oh.
Steve said, I got something for us to talk about.
And it was the top 15 best friends.
I know what you're talking about.
Steve said, I have a list, and it's of the top 50 best Russian players.
And we said, best based on what?
He's like, just best.
It was Igor Aronko's list.
And Igor Aronko knows his Russian heart.
It was so funny.
But we were like, what's the criteria?
What are we ranking?
And he's like, I don't know.
Best.
It's the best.
I don't know.
It's the best.
And for like half an hour, all we did was circle that one sentence.
We just asked Steve
Hey Steve
What is this
He's like just
Best
Best player
Best
Best
That was good
We're just ranking
Best Russian
Was that the birth
Of Iceberg
No
That was later
That was later
Oh my god
No because sometimes
I bring shit to the show
And I think it's good
And it's not
And that was one of
Here's
Here's
It was
What I love about
The thing with content
If you're starting a podcast
Is context is key
Anything can be interesting
If in the right context
and how you set it up matters.
And Steve just goes, plunk.
Here's a list of guys.
Here's a list.
Okay.
It was like somebody just bringing in a fish off the thing.
Boom, there's dinner.
Yeah.
Like right out of the water.
I was just thinking the exact same comparison.
Really? Yeah.
Jesus, we've been doing a show together way too long.
Long time.
Long time.
Anyways, that's my number two.
No, that's a good one.
Top 50 best wrestling players.
So when I bring in...
I don't know, it's just a list.
It's just a list, guys.
Guys.
This is the red guy!
But we don't understand the rest!
When I bring surprises to the show, it's a disaster.
When Adam brings surprises to the show, it's great.
And the reveal of the fact that the person I was on the phone with was John freaking Scott
was legend, Adam.
How did we do that again?
I've forgotten that completely.
You did that.
What did we do?
I forgot.
I don't even know.
I don't remember.
No, how did we do that?
I don't remember.
You were on Breakfast Television or something with him, and I guess you did prep for the
show by, like, I don't know, I guess you got his number.
Yeah, we got him on the phone, and then we told Steve we have a guest, and he said, and
then he said, hello, Steve, and then Steve's like, hello.
And I was like, is this John Scott?
And then you were like...
Is that what happened?
And then we had a whole interview with John Scott.
And I said...
I remember John Scott, but I don't remember that's how we brought him on.
I asked, how are you, twice, because I was just flabbergasted.
And, like, there were so many things where I was like, damn it, I wish I knew I was interviewing John Scott.
You said that about a hundred times.
What's it like being tall?
I couldn't think of what to ask him.
But, yeah, we had, like, the biggest name in the sport for a short time on the podcast because you decided to surprise us with him.
Number two for me.
Steve is a big man.
He's a big guy.
He's a tough guy.
He's a tough negotiator.
Hmm. Oh
Steve that's not where I thought you were going
Steve was gonna buy a car
And they said hey man the car cost this
They cost X this for you math nerds out there because this car cost X and they call him back the next day
And they're like actually Steve. It's X plus $1, and he's like hey
I'm not gonna pay that $1, and we were like wow whoa pretty impressive. Yeah that you're right Steve
They should eat the dollar right and there's a 30-second rant about yeah, this is crap anyway
so I paid the dollar and I have the car and
it was like I have it was I had you watch watch the clip back and
Jesse almost doesn't hear it cuz he's like flipping cameras, and I I take a second and I'm like
Wait a second, so you paid the dollar and you're like oh, yeah
You must hear Steve in this because of how he puffs his chest, how passionately and vehemently he means that I am a tough negotiator and I'm not paying you that damn dollar.
We agreed on a freaking price.
Anyway, that is my number two favorite moment on the show because when Steve says, so I paid the dollar, the helium came right out of the balloon and it was a beautiful moment.
I bring nothing to the table.
You bring everything to the table.
You brought my number one moment to the table.
All right, let's do it.
rumor break is
chopped liver
oh yes
smart insider
the number one
moment for me
of this podcast
is smart insider
man
that was so fun
it was so fun
cause it led to
an actual twitter
account that we
that has like
10,000 followers
somebody started
I don't know
and I wanna say
there might be
at some point in time
an animation of it
oh fun
oh wow
might be
I'm not sure
anyways
The problem is Evan promises to do things
and then people realize he's good at animation
and tug him in different directions.
Well, yeah, and he gets paid by them.
Yeah.
We're like, hey, we can do donations.
I'm sorry.
There was a moment in time when rumor break
was a thing on Twitter.
With over 10,000 followers.
And could just say shit and it would get traction.
It was so dumb.
And Steve was fed up.
Done!
So Steve started Smart Insider Man.
Whereas he breaks the, because he's on the inside.
And then we rank things as Sim 8.
Because Rumor Break had his friggin' rankings of our...
No, it was the Eklund thing.
No, it was the Eklund thing.
86, whatever the fuck that means.
Because there's three more levels of truth.
Yeah, so we had a Sim 9 or a Sim 10.
Sim 5, I could just throw it out there.
It might not happen.
It's just kind of a thing.
Sim 5.
Anyways, I love Smart Insider, man.
It's my favorite thing in the podcast.
It is a fabulous moment.
Yeah.
It is a great moment.
My number one is Adam is a serial killer because he not only strung me along for about an hour and a half, he set up his own kill.
It's like he set a trap in front of the bear.
He gets me to talk about how I would never buy Blue Jays playoff tickets in my entire life.
And why is that?
furthermore it's stupid that anyone would buy them because nothing is worth six hundred dollars
why would i pay six hundred dollars to go to a blue jays playoff game that's far too much money
i would never do that and adam says oh well okay and then we talk for like another 45 minutes an
hour about just random things and that whole time Jesse is happy talking hockey and Adam
is happy pretending to be my friend on the phone he gets my wife Mrs. Dangle to tell
me that she had purchased Blue Jays playoff tickets for $600 with your money and I said
That's so great.
That's wonderful, my darling.
And here's the thing.
Was she laughing because she was in on the bit?
No, I didn't tell her either because he is a piece of shit and I had to go home to the
hot potato and I just put that in my lap.
And the whole way I'm going home, I'm like, hell, this is going to be a fun one.
Don't know how I'm going to...
And I had to cut her off in the past.
And I told her on the phone on the way home.
And she said, what do you mean?
You said that I could give her back.
Oh, no.
God, I have caused a real life fight.
I'm sorry.
Because he had to be a rapscallion.
And not only to me, but my wife.
Were you even in on that?
I was.
He told me before.
I think so.
Yeah, I think so.
So you have to understand from my perspective, when you see a perfect moment developing.
And again, there's always a risk in perfect moments
Because perfect moments can lead to
What you think could be a perfect moment could lead to failure
And we've all been let down before
4-1, Leafs, you know, that sort of thing
And when Mrs. Dangle texted me earlier this afternoon
And said, hey, I want to do a reveal on the show
I said, absolutely, that sounds great
And I believe that I had also purchased
Playoff tickets from Andrew Walker at the time
For $600
Well, you went to Batflip, didn't you?
No, I was in a bad flip.
I was at the Tulewitzki home run game.
Yeah, that's how you guys got on the conversation.
Because Adam had bought the tickets from Walker, and then you went on a rant and were like, that's stupid.
Stupid.
Who would ever spend their hard-earned money like that?
Right.
And then, unknowing to you, Mr. Dingle had already done that.
But the best part about it was, and this is the background on that whole thing, is I didn't know that Steve felt that way until I told him before the show even started.
And he went off.
Oh, you walked ass backwards into it.
It was sort of like, oh, wow, okay.
And that's because I was like, you know what?
Save it for the show.
So we kicked off the show, and I set him up.
Boom.
And then I texted Mrs. Dangle towards the end of the show about an hour and a half later, got her on the phone.
He can't wait to get you on.
You're a serial killer.
We're going to hate you.
Now, the last one I'm going to choose is one that's already been chosen.
But I think it sums up so beautifully why this show works.
And it's it's about the the magic of this show is when Steve gets going
When Steve gets going the show takes off. It's why it's called the Steve Dangle podcast
And terrible friends and no no no this one is a compliment to you because you have this
Unbelievable ability to come up with things on the spot your improv skills are you cannot teach this
They weren't good enough to make the improv team at Ryerson. Well, they were wrong
uh you have an ability to come up with things and deliver them so perfectly your timing is amazing
okay and build and build and build and build i sat in my office and watched the smart insider
man thing develop yeah for it's a 12 minute clip smart insider man does not even start until like
four minutes in yeah and i sat in my office and i watched it build build build build build and it
was such an unbelievable steve dangle classic moment and i looked over like i look at myself
in it and i remember being extremely tired right like at that point all of us were running around
like chickens with their heads cut off you were well all of you all of us were where we were not
establishing our careers the way we are now we're working 14 hour days all of us it was crazy it was
a crazy year and a crazy time and we were all every time we sat down to do the show in 2017
we were on the edge of falling asleep
it was crazy so it was funny
and it was like an escape though
yes 100% because there was a lot of tough
shit going on that year and
I remember
just if you look at me
my head is in my hands and I'm broken
like it's something snapped
I couldn't hold it together and it was amazing
and that is the magic of you
that's why your videos work that's why the podcast
works it is
there's something magic about when you get
going like that
and it happens all the time
that's the best part
and that is
my absolute
absolute favorite moment
because I got to be there
and I got to laugh
and I got to partake in it
and I loved it
love you boo
love you
aww
can I do
an honorable mention
sure
because
this is a great moment
but I didn't think
it was top three
Marc Messier
cookie over his head
that's a funny one
aww
that was a good one
that was a very good one
just telling that story
is amazing
just aww
Oh, should I tell it or are you going to tell it?
No, no, no, no.
The story I want to tell is the number one moment that I'm sad that we didn't have camera technology for.
Okay.
And it was...
That's a long time ago.
It was a very long time ago, and it was...
The Leafs had just traded John Michael Lyles to the Carolina Hurricanes.
They traded him the day of the Winter Classic against Detroit.
um and to the point where like he's in his full leaf uniform and everything
and then they trade about to skate in the game and they take him out gets traded to carolina
first game the leafs play against jean michael isles carolina hurricanes they decide to healthy
scratch jake gardner as well which was extremely unpopular and the game was going on behind us
while we were recording but we weren't watching it i happened to check my phone
saw who scored the goal to make it 4-1 Carolina I'm pretty sure they won 6-1 that night the goal
to make it 4-1 and I don't remember what we were talking about or who was talking but just mid
sentence I go you have got to be joking me and I screamed it and Adams the terror on his face he
he had no idea he had no idea what was going on i go you know who just scored john michael lyles
a duck this team is incurably and i can think of no better way to sum up that leafing
it was true that was pre-jesse that was pre-jesse yeah if you would if that was on
camera and you had seen it i don't think you would have ever joined the show that was bj
Before Jesse
BJ
You
BJ was a tough time
It was
It was
Underrated moments
Are Liza Koshy
And David Dobrik
Reaction video
I don't put that in there
It's just a little long
For me
It was a little long
It was long
First time we ever did
Bachelor Bios
Oh good
The time you banned
Gary Bettman from the show
Banned
You can't come on the show
I thought I was on the show
No we can't
No
You can't.
Commissioner, can't do it.
Thought that was really funny.
Yeah, a couple of those.
Federer, Gordy, forever.
That's a good one.
Barbecue or meeting.
That's a good one.
Yeah, but that's you.
Every now and then, Jesse goes, I'm going to be contrary.
I was right about that.
It's not a hat trick.
It's not.
See?
And then he states it like it's fact, like it's something he believes.
And how stupid are we that we didn't pick up on that before?
It's ridiculous.
Oh, Jesse's always like, obviously bait.
And I'm like, I'm num num.
Jesse is Twitter.
He, I mean, Jesse must love me.
I'm the fish that's always hungry.
Big salmon.
All right, so there's a couple other ones I want to throw in.
Happy day, guys.
It was a good time.
It was a great decade.
Thank you for watching and listening and whatever.
We will see you in 2020.
See you next decade.
